Болестта се проявява с голям тумор, който след три месеца в клинично изследване за ваксина в Стенфорд изчезва и тя е в ремисия и до сега- без химио или друго ле4ение, само ваксина. Не при всеки действа, затова и някой специалисти тук са скептично настроени.
Rather than bury this in the comments to a previous post, here is info on Josh Brody's upcoming vaccine trial at Mt. Sinai in NY. I saw him today at an LRF event in San Francisco and had some time to ask him about it. In the trial Effie went through she had radiation to one node. That kills the tumor cells and releases their antigens to be identified by the immune system. Then her irradiated tumor was injected with a CpG drug that is a TLR9 agonist and stimulates the activity of t-cells to identify the tumor antigens as foreign things to be attacked. The trial I was in was the same except that the drug was a TLR8 agonist that stimulates dendritic cells and so was trying to work higher up the control structure of the immune system. The new trial will first inject the tumors with a drug that stimulates the growth of dendritic cells. Josh said to think of it as neupogen for dendritic cells (neupogen stimulates the growth of neutrophils). Then the tumors will be irradiated and then a TLR3 agonist drug will be injected to activate the dendritic cells. So, the new idea in this trial is to try and have more dendritic cells available to learn from the process. He just got the trial listed on clinicaltrials.gov. I told him it was all over Facebook and he said he needs to start blogging and tweeting these things. But, as usual with Josh, he was kidding. But I do think that he is excited to keep working on these types of vaccines.
