Diorissimo by Dior is a Floral fragrance for women. Diorissimo was launched in 1956. The nose behind this fragrance is Edmond Roudnitska. Top notes are Green Leaves and Bergamot; middle notes are Lily-of-the-Valley, Lilac, Jasmine, Lily, Ylang-Ylang, Amaryllis, Rosemary and Boronia; base notes are Civet and Sandalwood.

Diorissimo is a romantic fragrance of the 50’s. At its heart, a gentle lily of the valley, blooms as Dior’s favorite “fortune” flower. Diorissimo is fresh and clear, just like a dewy, spring morning in the woods. Top notes include lily-of-the- valley and ylang-ylang, the heart is composed of amaryllis and boronia, leaving a jasmine trail. Christian Dior believed that lily-of-the valley is the symbol of hope, happiness and joy. French consider lily of the valley as the legendary flower. According to the legend a brave and fearless fighter, called Saint Leonard wanted, to spend his days among the flowers and trees and live a life dedicated to God. He asked permission to go live in the woods. A dragon called Temptetaion lived in those woods. They fought and blood was spilled. Leonard bravely fought the dragon until it was defeated. Poisonous weeds began to grow where the dragon spilled his blood, but beds of lilies of the valley started to grom wherever the ground was moistened with Saint Leonard's. The French believe that lily-of-the valley is a holy flower and so did Christian Dior whichinspired the creation of this wonderful fragrance.

The creator from Grasse, France, Edmond Roudnitska, wanted to create a perfume that would be revolutionary and break the trend of sweet perfumes that were dominating the market. The goal was to simplifie perfume’s formula and create a perfume that’s simple and luminous. He dreamed of perfume similar to that of muguet that enveloped his senses when he was resting in his garden. Dior and Roudnitska met in 1955 and made their dream come true in 1956- Diorissimo was created! The perfume was represented by an illustration by René Gruau.According to Christian Dior, Diorissimo is the perfume of his spirit, or, "the scented expression of his soul".

Diorissimo perfectly encapsulates the scent of lily of the valley flowers. There is no heaviness to it. It's light and airy. From some similar perfumes I've had a headache before, not from this one. I was litteraly waiting for it to start, when I tested it, but it just didn't happen. I have Kenzo's 'Parfum d'Ete' from the early 2000s in my collection, which is going for the same vibe, but does smell different, more synthetic and headache inducing for me, which I stubbornly ignored and wore it anyway...at least sometimes....when outside a lot. Not necessary with Diorissimo. It projects well, lasts a couple of hours and it's simply very natural smelling. What a classy perfume! <3

I decided to test a few Dior fragrances off the beaten path and I fully expected to like Diorissimo. I like it, but not as much as I thought... Hoped... Anticipated I would. It is less of a green floral than I expected and more of a muguet forward perfume: white florals with some aromatic nuances and slight, very slight powderiness. Like the previous reviewer said, there is a touch of animalic quality. But the white floral bearing overpowers all to my nose. That's all.

taropetal

Absolutely swoon worthy, intoxicating concoction. I went straight to the top with this one - a vintage parfum. No need in reiterating her status as the LOTV grande dame. Freshly rained on LOTV, lush and damp. A slight sweetness and aromatic tea-like quality. Perfectly encapsulates the ushering in of spring. What really sets this fragrance off is the use of civet. An animalic touch that adds depth and dimension to the flower. Simply a masterpiece that I have not done an ounce of justice with my words.

Smells literally like some WC freshener. I smell probably just the Lilly of the valley which is inceredibely sharp in here. May induce headaches.
I would never buy such an overpriced and outdated scent.

There is something wonderful about wearing a perfume that Christian Dior conceived while he was still alive. This scent is timeless and classic. It brings me back to my youth. The first two perfumes I ever bought were Miss Dior and Diorrissimo, and Diorissimo became my first signature scent. As I wear it today, I am just as smitten with it as all those years ago. It is elegantly gorgeous.

Diorissimo is the pinnacle when it comes to lily of the valley in my opinion. Hits refreshingly luscious and inviting, whilst feeling incredibly natural and pure. The scent is almost entirely comprised of this beautiful flower in all its glory.

This scent captures every glorious essence of lily of the valley, from the soapy white floral aspect all the way down to the green vegetal stem of the flower. Green notes, bergamot and an array of other florals intensify and support the star of the show, but never show their face.

I always considered Les Clochettes du Bonheur to be the best Lily of the valley scent I’d ever smelled, only now do I realise how heavily influenced it was by this masterful creation. I love it.

I was able to get my hands on a vintage bottle of this. It's bright, dewy muguet and lilac. I do detect the acetone note some people speak of, but it's faint and just kind of adds to the sparkly aldehydic profile, in my opinion, rather than smelling cheap or artificial. There is also a saliva note from the civet, but this is not overtly animalic fragrance, at least to my nose. Diorissimo really, truly is spring time in a bottle! I'm not usually drawn to lily of the valley-centric perfumes, so I'm not blown away or in love, but Diorissimo is uplifting and a classic, so I'm happy to have it in my collection!

Right now it´s winter, dark, cold, windy and rainy in my country and I just had to reach for this perfume.

I needed to feel the scent of spring, and this juice really is the scent of spring. My word am I glad I bought a 100 ml bottle of this. It is the right amount of LOTV, so it isn´t nauseating at all. Just a happy, nice, not at all headaceing perfume. It´s kinda discreet scent that radiates within an arms length. Well, on me and with my bodycemestry it is.

I can´t stop sniffing my wrist, and my husband said he like the spring-vibe I´m giving him today

UnearthlyApothecary

Spring in a bottle… all of my favorite spring time scents are Diors (Tendre and Pure Poison are also on my spring faves list) I am a die hard lilac fan… the scent of lilac bushes is very much tied up with childhood nostalgia for me. It’s not the most photo-realistic lilac out there but it IS the most refined and well crafted. Such delicacy, you can tell it was blended with love and a gentle touch that was so careful not to upset the perfect balance of all the notes. It isn’t a powerhouse and it wears softer on my skin, a gentle caress… but it’s long lasting.I have a tester bottle from 2008 and it’s magnificent I would love to try some of the real vintage stuff at some point.

Smells exactly like freshly picked flowers in a vase

I have a travel-spray decant of the current formulation, and it's a bit of a disappointment--I'm not going to blame the fragrance, though, just the formulation of whatever batch I have. The LOTV note is indeed spectacular, everything it was promised to be (and I smell them every spring because they bloom profusely on the treelawn around the corner from my house); however, I have to endure a distinct "wet latex wall paint" smell in the meantime, what others describe as a gasoline scent perhaps, and that makes the admittedly lovely lilacs and LOTV less intoxicating. It's a bit like smelling a fresh bouquet of lilacs and LOTV in a room that was painted an hour earlier. A pity. I can tell this must be really special when all the ingredients are as they should be.

Perhaps I was too harsh. An hour or so in, the handkerchief I sprayed this on is much, much more LOTV and lilac than latex paint; my husband was genuinely enthusiastic about it (although he's a handy fellow, and maybe the smell of paint is a positive one for him, haha). But really, the drydown is the most important part of the perfume, and the drydown of Diorissimo is divinissimo!

xrhea

it smells like my nan, in a good way, but wearing this perfume would make you smell more 'mature' for sure. its definitely made in the 50s, it smells exactly like what id imagine it to. id recommend gifting it to an older relative or friend because its an INCREDIBLY mature scent. the white lily is incredibly prominent. defo a spring scent

Child Chemist

Lilac soap. It smells dated to me. Houndstooth box.

Diorissimo is the proof that simplicity is, after all, the ultimate luxury.

The bottle I have it's exactly the one on the picture above, a 2009 eau de toilette.

The fragrance itself is quite simple: a sharp, metallic, shimmery opening preceded by a fresh, green, dewy, delicate accord of lily-of-the-valley, sooo photorealistic that you can almost feel the flower arrangement in your hands, close to your nose. Very mild and light, it creates an aura arround you, tender like a caress.

It doesn't last long, but I don't care to reaply.

The point is: Diorissimo is GORGEOUS!
It's the most springtime fragrance I've ever wore, an human, artificial construction that smells the most natural. It's classy, elegant, proper, but also utterly romantic, innocent and pure. It's something that 1950s Disney's Cinderella would wear: she is humble and modest, but she possesses a natural queenly grace and beauty.

I LOVE IT!

I remember working in a dental clinic years ago, it must have been the early-mid 2000s. We had this accountant named Joanna who was Polish, and everytime she walked in, she was extremely professionally dressed, and smelt of the most beautifully lily of the valley perfume. For years I've tried to find it. I believe it was this one. LOTV is loved greatly by a lot of Polish women, and I've tried finding similar scents, though they were too sharp and green. This also contains my other favourite florals, lilac, jasmine, and lily. Of how I wish for just a sample of this to confirm it was the correct perfume. So many good memories. I'd absolutely love this for summer.

xababyxaforluv

I was so excited to try this. Not out of high expectations, but out of curiousity. Smells really fresh and clean and soapy, like if mint was mixed into a little bubble of creaminess, adding smoothness and taking out the excess cutting-effect. Personally, I don't see myself ever wearing this, maybe to the gym, but even then, it wouldn't give me any special or happy feeling. Just smells like my skin after an expensive hotel shower. With the tiniest amount of spice, which again, could alternatively be the mint, but I'm not sure.

MTK82

This is one of my most favourite perfumes of all time! It takes me back to my childhood...wandering around a beautiful garden full jasmine and other flowers. It's just a timeless gorgeous fragrance and I'll always love it. Was disappointed with the longevity of the EDT version they came up with a few years ago!

banillamood

This is what I picture a city librarian in the 80’s has sitting on her vanity.
For modern times, spring time would be appropriate for this.. although not appreciated by many these days.

ganesha

life alert be damned my 80 year old housemate has taste

Voidfruit

I'm a jasmine lover and that's what I primarily pick up in this frag, however something in the background reminds me of gasoline which I associate with getting car sick as a child so I find it nauseating. I wish I could enjoy it!

Tamijami79

I have a vintage bottle of this gorgeous perfume (the one with the white top). To me this smells like a bouquet of fresh lilac. Springtime in the bottle. Wery happy for haveing this gem in my collection.

gedlive

This is about the best option for a great Lilly of the Valley fragrance. Considering quality and value.
I think the Guerlain Muguet at $1,000/ 100 ml is maybe the best. But it's only marginally better than Dior here.
Kilian's Love and Tears is my favorite. As it has some more depth and earthy notes. Being a guy who likes LOTV, it makes it more gender neutral.

The Caron LOTV is slightly lower in quality than the Dior, at 70% the price.
There are a lot of LOTV fragrances under $50, but the quality of the overall fragrance is too poor for me.
If you are on a budget, go for the Caron.

qianqian

The top note is a strong and bitter tea scent, just like the jasmine green tea my grandpa used to make every day. Reminds me of him. It's a classy scent.

Shokenmo$@711

I tried a spray of Diorissimo perfume yesterday out of curiosity. It was strong even with one spray, with prominent lily of the valley and some sweet notes of jasmine and ylang-ylang (I guess). In all, it was an elegant flowery scent that gave out nostalgic feelings. IMO it is best to spray it in the air and walk past the fume, not to directly spray it on your body. This perfume is very true to lily of the valley scent.

I bought this straight from Dior in June 2023. It is divine! Such a gorgeous scent poem to lily of the valley. It smells like it has freshly rained in a beautiful garden of white flowers with LOTV being the most prominent scent. My husband went crazy for it on me. Of all the scents in my personal library this is his favorite. I love it too. I don’t need to smell the vintage version(s). Perfumes lose those topnotes as they age and I can’t justify the cost/risk-benefit ratio. This modern rendering is delightful enough for me.

Lwjm

Someone below said it reminded them of paint... And it does have that echo. Paint with high VOCs. That takes nothing away from it, though...it smells very feminine to my male (culturally conditioned) nose, but the “heady, volatile” aspect really lifts it to be something interesting.

alphairone

The verdant exuberance of Diorissimo can only be appreciated much the same way as putting your nose to lily of the valley or lilac in bloom in May and having the desire to hold this experience a bit closer and longer around you. It starts dewy and green with the muguet fading into view, and lilac soon to follow. It reminds me of visits to the Acton Arboretum here in Massachusetts, where the lily of the valley grows underneath the lilac bushes and the two converge. The jasmine serves more as an undertone, just somewhat indolic, fleshing the florals out through its heart. It isn't until the very last stages of development that Diorissimo reveals more surreptitious animalic shades, with echoes of the green and white florals lingering.

I have my tiny 90s bottle, a 10ml atomizer, as a reference, to wear for myself on my hands and wrist. Yes, it is a 90s version following the LVMH acquisition of Dior, yet Luca Turin does still give it 4 stars, stating "today's Diorissimo is unquestionably different from the older version although still a thing of great beauty." I opted for this version as it is a high risk to spring for a vintage of Diorissimo, as the very components that make it beautiful are highly volatile and vintages are often sadly diminished in their vitality and freshness. Having this little baby atomizer has helped me gain an even deeper appreciation for Edmond Roudnitska and inspires me to learn more about his life, pursuits, inspirations. Diorissimo's impressionistic quality foreshadows subsequent classics Eau Sauvage and Diorella, and continues to inspire perfumers decades later.

dendry

I found a bottle of Diorissimo from the nineties; it feels more like a seventies perfume to me. Heavenly top notes of lilac and lily of the valley which swim around for a time and are then subsumed by a much darker note; probably the civet. Quite beautiful throughout.

Dawn.Valerie

Smells like paint to me.

Anniefrgrtc

I tried the vintage parfum Diorissimo. I was expecting a bouquet of jasmine and LOTV but the indolic jasmine was more powerful than anything else. After 30 min, I started to smell some green and slightly sunscreen-y LOTV and powdery lilac. Still not enough LOTV to call it a LOTV perfume.
If I want a jasmine perfume I would prefer Jasmin Antique (Rogue), a beautiful, rich, super indolic jasmine perfume that nothing else can compete.
The issue with buying vintage perfume is that I never know whether the juice has gone bad or simply I am not a fan of the scent.

violetsoul

ah, diorissimo... i have a bottle of the 80's batch EDT: my first vintage bottle of perfume. i blind-bought it without trying the most recent reformulation, and im so glad i did.

diorissimo is a huge yet somehow soft white floral, the main point of interest being a beautifully done lily of the valley, supported by a little bit of civet and jasmine/ylang. there is a screeching quality to it at first spray, as if announcing it's presence, then blossoms into an airy grand bouquet. it has an "ascending" feel to it, like a bright cloudless spring sky.

i only disagree on one point with most of the reviewers though: this is not a happy, quiet fragrance. it is as loud as a drunken bride on her wedding day, dancing barefoot in the grass, yet she never loses her beauty. i could imagine kirsten dunst in the movie "melancholia" wearing this as she stands in the middle of the forest in her elegant white wedding dress, an ethereal being contrasted against the darkness of the trees and roots wrapping around to ground her, but her feet are floating above, running towards the sky. needless to say, i love that movie, and i love this fragrance.

brandybasisty

I used to wear Diorissimo in the 90's, and now have the vintage EDT in the houndstooth box. It's a restorative balm in the cold weather- so fresh and delicate! I remember my nineties bottle smelling more green and soliflore in nature, whereas the vintage EDT has a sweeter transparency and depth. I detect more spice, like a whisper ofvbasil or anise? This fragrance is slightly gothic, and timeless. I'd love to smell more of Roudnitska's creations

alatchka

Usually my "reviews" are told in story form, but alas, no story behind this one. Diorissimo is another of my mother's beloved white floral, fresh green scents that I would sneak off her vanity from time to time. Hence my love of Chanel white florals, Versace Blonde, Jessica McClintock, Evyan's White Shoulders (I've got a great story about that one) and Estee Lauder's long gone and sorely missed, Honeysuckle Splash.
So, considering how much a bottle of vintage CDD is going for on the Bay and VB and ELHS had a very limited release and are nearly impossible to find (although I've hoarded a few bottles, which I probably will never use. I made my son promise me he would either gift it to his wife or sell it at my estate sale and pay for part of my grandchild's college tuition, because I figure they'll be fetching a pretty price by then), I'd say go for the Jessica McClintock...I just bought a 1.7 oz bottle on the Bay for $19. Or, just blow a whole paycheck on a precious bottle of the original. You only live once, so why not smell delicious while living in your car?

s2jkbrad

This is STRONG.... for an eau de Toilette, I just inherited from my mother in law. I'll have to take it in. It is very spicy, floral and slightly sharp at first.

MediaevalWench

I remember as a child my msm and aunties had Diorissimo and they always dabbed a bit behind my ears or a little spray and i thought i was in heaven. I have a bottle in my collection and even now it's like having ones face being shoved head first into an enormous bouquet of lily of the valley. It's the same reaction as opening the door to a room that has an enormous bouquet of lily's. I love their fragrance. The opening of the bottle of Diorissimo is a similar reaction, but whilst it's "heady" it dosnt give me a headache. No other lily of the valley scent comes close to Diorissimo. I'd have to pick an occasion to wear it to, as it is still a powerful scent.

Chocobaby

One of my first encounters in the fragrance world. My mom gave me a small bottle with the black and white herringbone pattern in a pale pink box when I was a pre-teen. I treasured it and only dabbed a tiny amount behind my ears when we went out. To me, this is the quintessential Lily of the valley fragrance. Fresh, dewy, innocent. Floral and green at the top, then settles into a comforting woody musk. It sits fairly close to the skin, but has amazing longevity. This is a timeless masterpiece.

COLOREDGIRLSHUFFLE

I purchased a pre 80's EdT from Etsy. Upon the first whiff, it reminds me of the sophisticated archousai at my grandparents' Grand Boulé galas. The wives with their finest Jessica McClintock gowns from Bloomingdales, pearls, and delicate little feet in satin shoes with rhinestone embellishments. For this to be launched in the '50s is decidedly greener than its powerhouse peers of the era. I am guessing this is one of the scents that helped pave the way for the '70s green chypres.

The sparkling green opening paves the way for one of the prettiest floral compositions I have ever smelled. It smells simultaneously young and mature at the same time. The animalic base is muted, and it remains a mature beautiful floral. The projection for my batch is arm's length, and the sillage is eternal. I am pleased with this vintage purchase.

Johannes Mario Simmel wrote a book Love Is Just A Word. It is a love story between young Oliver and beautiful Verena - a wife of a rich banker. Diorissimo was there almost a character. Described and mentioned many times throughout the story. The plot is not the main attraction in this novel. It is the nature of the affair that could break any reader’s heart. This book is the saddest tale of love I have ever read. It ends sad and tragic.

I suspect Simmel chose Diorissimo on purpose in this book. He once said, “Love is chemistry!” Diorissimo has the same destiny as Oliver. A smell of a million lilies of the valley constrained into a small bottle. They feel really uncomfortable there. When you let them out, they immediately spread around and melodramatically stay in the air to remind you of their tragic death.

Arfume

This is the most clean floral scent ever. Will always be one of my favs. Although it is edt the longevity is better than most of the other floral scents on the market.

Suavis

The first time I was acquainted with this beauty I was 20. One of my friend’s aunties came for a visit; a classy and stylish lady in her 60’s. As I got closer to give her a peck on her cheek, I was literally stunned by the fragrance she was wearing, I wasn’t into fragrances back then but this one… oh my!!! made a long lasting impression on me 💗 I always thought I would buy it someday.
It’s been 26 years since then… anyway…I purchased it a few days ago for the first time… and it just arrived!!! 🙌🏼 Glorious, feminine, classy, delicate yet confident, a breath of white-floral fresh air 😍 I love it as much as I loved it back then.

I have to say though, the bottle is cheap looking… with a plastic topper… Dior, are you kidding me?! This fragrance deserves more respect.

pronose

I don't like the new reformulation👎 another waste by Dior! Why they keep doing this mess?🤔

Arfume

A performance beast for an edt. Lasts long anf projects good. Perfect for summer and spring. You smell like flowers but decent. Not annoying, knows how to deliver a floral scent. This will always be one of favs in florals

Enrium

Diorissimo is Edmond Roudniska's famous lily-of-the-valley scent created for Dior - a feat, considering that the muguet note must be rendered in the lab, as the oil cannot be collected from the flowers themselves. I have a vintage miniature from the 1970s, and it is something to behold. Diorissimo is a vibrant, white floral scent, so beautifully rendered that the florals are almost almost tangible. It is not sweet, nor funereal - it is pungent yet somehow pure.

Diorissimo opens with fresh, dewy green notes, paving the way for the lily-of-the-valley accord that emerges early on. The muguet is realistic and smells like the little flowers in full bloom - green, waxy, creamy and petal-like. While Diorissimo is almost a lily-of-the-valley soliflore, there are hints of other floral notes that round it out, notably clean, creamy jasmine, some waxy lily and soft ylang ylang. It is bright and soapy, thanks to the aldehydes used in the muguet accord.

It becomes slightly woody and musky as it dries down, becoming animalic on the skin thanks to the civet note. However, it remains a soapy white floral until the final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

Delivering simple, timeless minimalism, Diorissimo was ahead of its time. Feminine and fresh, it is a straightforward, easy-to-wear daytime spring scent. It is also an important piece of perfume history, notable for its craftsmanship - namely the successful rendering of the muguet note. 4.5/5.

Close your eyes and lie in a carpet of Lily of the Valley. Put your face in the flowers and sniff, then times by one hundred! It's super strong, which I adore.

Heavenly, classy ,dreamy........a timeless beauty.

I actually prefer the edt as it's lighter and fresher ,less cloying than the edp. This one you can almost shower in and it doesn't offend.

Put on a crisp white shirt, some designer sunglasses, grab a glass of champagne and you're good to go!

molly1217

Looking at the structure aspects, Diorissimo in 1956 can be called the pinnacle of minimalism. It is dominated by lily of the valley, supplemented by jasmine, and has a fresh and romantic style. It is widely loved by female consumers as soon as it is launched.
Diorissimo from the master Edmond Roudnitska has very few changes, even if there are adjustments, it will not damage the original appearance. It was not until the budget constraints and the ban imposed by IFRA that Diorissimo really changed its face. (This fragrance is the first to complete the odor simulation of lily of the valley with lily of the valley aldehyde.)
Compared with the essence, EDT and EDC weaken the unique odor of jasmine, so people who are afraid of indole can buy it with peace of mind. The old version is a little powdery, but the new version is a very pure white flower fragrance.
Diorissimo is based on Mr. Dior's favorite lily of the valley. While in line with Dior's spirit, it also inherits all the characteristics of Dior women's clothing, which is light, elegant and feminine.
Unlike some perfumes that are old-fashioned, Diorissimo is modern and a wonderful fragrance for every morning.

PPAN

I own the 7.5 mini bottle, orange juice. This is by far the best lily of the Valley I ever smelled, despite the bottle being probably very old already. The scent is so deep, fresh, and realistic despite some slightly synthetic elements. It just evokes such intense carefree happiness. The longevity leaves a lot of room for improvement. It barely lasts 4 hours on my skin, despite being apparently at parfum concentration.

Arfume

Smooth and lovely. An old fragrance maybe but never outdated. Not provocative but elegant and stylish. A Hepburn, Kelly, Diana style.

dX1YDip8*kx!

Pleasant and inoffensive. The current formulation is still LotV, but dances between the scent of freshly cut pear and apple as well. A safe fragrance.

brokesta911

Diorissimo Parfum (1956) - lily of the valley - no other similarly scented perfume would be able to match this reference lily of the valley by #edmondroudnitska . But sadly, try to find a vintage bottle as the current formulation is but a shadow of its former self. Starts with a green Galbanum meets Hyacinth accord that is bright, dry and sharp. This quickly transitions to the star of the show - Lily of Valley. Here the accord shows every nuances of the real flower. Fresh, Honey-like, Powdery, Indolic and grassy. It’s as if God wrote down the formula and handed it to Roudnitska while sniffing these pretty flowers. Radiant, Innocent, Lush.

Wondersmith

This perfume is cloying, disgustingly creamy and full of beautiful floral notes. In a strange way, that sickening undercurrent (is it the civet?) complements the flowers very well, but I hate it.

hkremer

I love the House of Dior and have been wearing fragrances since the 1980's. I have a vintage (pre IFRA reformulations) bottle of this powerhouse, and whew! I loved the initial blast of LOTV, but then it warmed up to a screechy form of bug spray. I just remembered this perfume today when I recently made a blind buy of Jones New York, originally distributed by Paul Sebastian of Design fame. Same notes: Bergamot, LOTV, jasmine, Ylang-ylang, etc. However, the JNY is what the Diorissimo should have smelled like - LOTV with *fresh* greenness and no notes of Raid. 3/10.

pince_nez

The scent of a field of lily-of-the-valley shrouded in the hazy/ dewy/ cool/ evanescent veil of fog on an early spring morning (in Grasse)!
Prim/ proper/ Victorian/ virginal -- Diorissimo exudes a child-like innocence in its perceived simplicity. And that is perhaps its genius.

This a white floral scent that floats/ light as air. Iconic.

A masterpiece from the legendary perfumer Edmond Roudnitska.

Wonderful!

Cloud Awhirl

Beautifully perfect floral scent, but it does not last on me.

Emma0714

Diorissimo is springtime in full bloom. This perfume offers a photorealistic picture of lily of the valley and lilacs, and it's absolutely beautiful. I crave this perfume for a couple of weeks every year. Bringing Diorissimo out when the trees starts turning green again has almost become a stort of yearly ritual for me. It's like breaking out of a chrysalis after a cold and rainy January-March and lets you indulge in the ways nature comes to life again. Flap your wings and put your wintercoat back in the closet!

gardeniapetunia

I have been wearing this for 45 years and it was my first real perfume, Sweet Honesty not counting. At one time, it was considered light and fresh but compared to today's perfumes is quite potent and old school. Still beautiful.

Mizmalibu

When I was growing up we had lilac trees in our garden: a white one and a purple one, and they had mixed in the middle to a beautiful lilac shade. I adored the beautiful flowers and the smell, and even now when I come across a lilac tree I cannot help myself: I have to stop and smell the flowers. Dior Diorissimo has captured that beautiful lilac smell so perfectly that it is just like smelling the actual flower. And they added some other favorites as well (lily of the valley, and a fresh, floral, not cloying jasmine). This truly is spring in a bottle.

Many times have I fallen for the "You just got to have this - it's so amazing!" bravado. I find this is particularly so with nod to vintage fragrances. I have also lamented a large number of those particular purchases, arriving again at snow-blinding aldehydes, and a sad bottom-line in the bank. And then there was Diorissimo.
I was so nervous when I purchased this online. Will it be like the others? Will I never understand and appreciate vintage chemistry in perfumery? Did I turn off the coffee pot? The questions swirled around me as I opened the humble packaging surrounding my new arrival. What was encased was a classically formulated, mid-century modern masterpiece! I sprayed the crystalline amber liquid onto a blotter, and immediately had the most photo-realistic flora instantly surround me. Heaven was housed here! The mother of flowers, as natural as finding it in a field, lily of the valley! Oh, how we've been getting it all wrong lately! Lilac, jasmine, Amaryllis and Ylang Ylang follow through. Each legible and defined, like pulling strings on a classic guitar. The hand-polished wood resonating a specific vibration against the hand, while exhaling hums of familiar tonal chords, precisely commanded. As we reach the heart, green notes, herbaceous structures and wild flowers enter our field of vision in this world of fancy. One is left feeling breathlessly exuberant, after running up a hill, caught mid giggle, feet painted green in chlorophyll. This is, in a word, joyous! Raucous only found on a perfect spring day. Collapsing at last under aqua skies, to find patterns in the fluffy cotton clouds kiting overhead. Just lazily biding time, until one more molecule collects - catalyzing rain's inevitable descent. Utter, and absolute, paradise!

Jacobean Lily

One of the first in my perfume collection and one of my most loved.
What's to say? Swoon-making floral which opens with a sappy-green freshness and the most true-to-nature Lily-Of-The-Valley I've ever encountered in a bottle.
There's also an exquisite lilac, ylang-ylang and jasmine alongside, but it's the LOV which makes my heart sing.
A floral masterpiece.

I have a vintage bottle of this (80s or 90s judging by the bottle design).
It's a beautiful old fashioned fragrance that harks back to days where perfumes were strong and made to last. Strong indolic natural lilies. I bought my mother lilies that smelt exactly like this last year. I was worried that this would be too similar to Frederic Malle Lys Mediteranee, which I already have, but that is a fresh , natural lily, and this is a heavy, lush, decadent indolic lily.
It is quite vintage in odour, although I like it anyway. I have a suspicion it would go well with a little Goldea or similar warm spicy scent which would modernise it into a floriental.
If you like lilies this is well worth a buy. This was a blind buy off ebay, no regrets.

LaContessina

This is a classical perfume, in the sense that it will never go out of fashion - not only for "classical" ladies, but for every woman who feels feminine, elegant and joyful.
To me, this is the perfume of joy and spring in a bottle.
The most prominent note is muguet (lily of the valley), one of my favourites flowers.
So rare to find it nowadays in the fields, it reminds me of my childhood when it was a feast if you found some of these marvellous little white flowers in the countryside. As I always loved the flower, I will always love a fragrance that is the mirror of the flower itself.
I always have a bottle at hand. Smelling Diorissimo is cheering me up and acts as "better times will come" potion, a kind of drug without the side effects! Lol.
That said, I have to tell you I had the chance of smelling the REAL 1956 Diorissimo in a sample they keep at the Osmothèque in Versailles (that place is the Mecca for all frag lovers: they keep a sample of the original formulation of the most important perfumes ever created, the number of which is impressive).
What an experience! The original Diorissimo was so concentrated and rich, so indolic (more jasmin) compared to the current formulation, it was a really sexy, overtly seductive one. I would have not imagined, as the formulations i have ever smelled evoke joy and sunshine, happiness and light moments, not sexyness.
As a final note, this is my mother's favourite perfume and smelling it, it always brings her back in the same room I am.
I love Diorissimo!

My husband bought me a vintage bottle for Valentine’s Day. So beautiful! It makes me feel like I’m
walking through a green meadow during a sunny spring day with lots of flowers, butterflies, and fairies dancing around. Such an uplifting fragrance. Diorissimo is the perfect fragrance to wear to church. I don’t think it would offend anyone and smells so pretty.

Cogniaux

The color White and waspy people. That’s what this smells like to me. The kind of perfume a wealthy young mother would wear to a solemn Presbyterian service with her two kids and businessman husband in 1994.

Dramatic I know. But that’s just where this smell takes me.

Frangipanilove

Spring in the air today and the perfect time to review Diorissimo. Now I hope I am not going to get hate mail for this but for me, personally, its my least favourite classic Dior. It is, however, a perfect early spring scent with a prominent lily of the valley, with some hyacinth and green ness in the background. A very classic, well blended scent, a hint of 50s, Grace Kelly. But, alas, not my favourite. For whatever reason, its a little bit sharp on my body chemistry. I have the old formulation in the rectangular striped bottle.

foregoingmad

greenery, LoTV, orange-y citrus. Light and lovely. Feels like frolicking in a meadow. Reminds me of my grandma (not in an "old" smelling way). Laying on the grass in spring time. Very pure smelling. After the opening citrus it's almost purely LOTV. Some creamy sandalwood and lilac at the bottom of the dry down.

ira.singhal

I have had this for a few years and recently decided to start using it. It wasn't a love at first sniff, but it grew on me. I wore this for my everyday and now I adore it. It is a beautifully blended bouquet of flowers, with lily-of-the-valley edging out the others just a teeny bit. I love florals, specially white florals so it is a love for me now! It is a clean perfume, but at the same time it isn't very simple and is sophisticated enough to make you feel luxurious. It doesn't have a huge sillage, but I can still feel it on me after an 8 hour workday. I do spray on both my clothes and skin. On clothes it lasts days. Definitely something I would buy again once I run out of my current bottle.

bodnerrachel

My daughter bought me this fragrance and I love it! The green notes, lily of the valley, jasmine, and herbs are so fresh and clean, almost like a chypre fragrance. It's the definition of elegance.

morganbowden

This. Is. SO. Gorgeous. I can't speak for the more recent formulations (my bottles are from the 70s and 80s) but this is the most beautiful, creamy, well-rounded floral I know of. When I smell this, I think of meadows filled with buttercups and elegant young women who don't take themselves too seriously. I can imagine that this would be at its best when worn on a hot summer's evening, having dinner outside in the country wearing a floaty, white dress. It's vivacious and effortlessly so.

Aoibheal420

I wanted so badly to love this perfume. I adore Lily of the Valley and have been looking for a grown up LoV fragrance for years. I wear Pinrose Tambourine Dreamer and it is all LoV, all day long. The problem? It fades badly; like an hour and it's gone. The scent doesn't even stick to clothing.
Anyway, I ordered a travel size Diorissimo and it came in today and I am SO sad. All I can smell is Lilac. I mean, if you like Lilac, great, but I seriously smell like an old lady. I am so disappointed.

NataliNatali510

Delicate yet tenacious lilly of the valley. Well-rendered and realistic, fresh and green. Very lovely and elegant. Sadly, this is not longer is the kind of feminine exuberance that I can project. If you would like a nearly full bottle from 2019, PM me.

rockerchick

I wanted so badly to like this. It smells divinely green and fresh lily of the valley for the first 40 mins or so, then the civet comes out. Damp, musky, wet. Seriously hardcore muskiness. It overpowers the green and lily and just stays heavily musky, like a heady lily already in wilt. Not for me. Thankfully I found a decant before I splurged. Definitely not a safe blind buy.

grapefruit352

At first, right after I spray..I just get a smell of a nail polish, like a pure acetone. After some minutes, it slowly vanishes and then it comes out the lily of valley and actually.. nothing else. Just a lily of the valley..
This bottle of course looks nice in a classical and vintage style.

diego.lesgart

Great creation! with Miss Dior, Diorella, and Dioressense. Clearly A.D.N. Dior. Marvellous 1st season of Dior perfumes . Such a bitter, tumultuose, misty, intense autum evenings fragance.

loveparfum

Wearing Diorissimo eau de parfum is like holding a fresh bouquet of lily of the valleys. Lilac, jasmine, amaryllis, lily, and the green note mingle together in mid stage. The dry down turn into a spicy white casa blanca lily. Gorgeous.

abczee

Wow! I only received an older bottle of Diorissimo this afternoon and about 5 hours in with a scrub and respray. It confused me so much, the initial spray on the back of my hand had me recoiling. I believe it's early '90's and it kicks. I'm not normally a heavy floral girl, this reminds me of the same reaction I had when I first took in Jean Patou's Joy from a similar time although quite different. LOTV/Jasmine/Ylang Ylang screaming out on my skin at full-bore. For me this is like sitting in the middle of a flower patch in the heat of the day, heady and overwhelming. After scrubbing I decided to give it the respect it deserved and have done a full spray. Intoxicating and a floral song, so feminine with the air of strength and fragility balanced beautifully. I wonder if I can wear this with the same confidence it exudes. It is a lovely journey.

JolieSucre

A great and refreshing scent for when you'd like a sweet, linear floral to variate from the sugar bombs everyone seems to be wearing nowadays (myself included).

I remember it very strong for a white flower scent, with the distinctive oily benzoin of the lily of the valley. It's very linear, the lilly of the valley dominates it throughout its lifespan. The dry down calms into a white, very rich and sophisticated soapy note that smells of muted iris and lilac (with the lily of the valley no less).

A very potent fragrance that Dior could keep in mind when creating their new scents (Poison Girl EDT, looking at you right now). Benzoic compared to the caramel notes everyone is used to sniffing nowadays, but not alcoholic or powdery, like sweet-dry perfumes usually are. A good perfume if you can splurge, in Paris this is 80 eur for 50 ml. Worth it if it's your thing, as a little goes a long way.

Br'eauDeCologne

I love what Houtstemmer had to say a few reviews before me.

I like this fragrance. My new travel-sized bottle is a very pleasant lilac/muguet that, on my skin, soon morphs into something very similar to Elizabeth's Arden's Bluegrass. I like that scent a lot and would consider it unisex (much like this current Diorissimo). But ... it's not what I would have expected from a juice that has the reputation of Diorissimo, even in its current form, which must certainly be diminished compared to prior iterations.

Houtstemmer is on target. I am hopeful that one day via creativity and new discoveries, Diorissimo will be restored to its glory. I'd love to smell the original "reference" spring-in-a-bottle.

Meanwhile, this current Diorissimo is more than worth a try for the gifts it brings to the wearer.

gmr1967

I have used this fragrance for years with the change of season, when spring gave us the first hints of the changing weather. The first flowers bloomed, the branches of the trees revived, the meadows filled with daisies. Thrush in absolute, true protagonist of this splendid typically seasonal perfume (even if for me perfumes have no season but only the desire to wear them). It brings joy, good humor, light-heartedness. In a nutshell .. want to live.

Cinnamonpeelerswife

Diorissimo is bar-none my favorite perfume ever. I first encountered it in a garden district flophouse during Mardi Gras as a southern college girl, and while I did grow up and settle down, I never fell out of love with this scent.

It’s warmer than one expects from a soliflore, but very green and lifelike. Diorissimo is the honeycrisp apple of LotV. Very literal and very extra, the way you might dream of lilies of the valley.

The dry down goes just a little powdery as the green notes fade, but the sandalwood and musk keep it from going too far in that direction. It remains warm and gentle all the way down.

Marivictory

I have a small vial of the vintage formulation ~ this is very green and elegant. White florals are prominent and the civet is what I liked as it blends all together with the jasmine and lily of the valley. I comes off quite warm and fresh at the same time which I know sounds contradicting but it basically smells green with that civet undertone that you will smell as time goes by.

I love it. This fragrance is so original especially when it was released and it has transcended that time and is still relevant now.

SockHopMom

The best of all time!

hippopotamus

It smells just like lily of the valley. Graceful, soft, charming and uplifting. Intensely feminine. I imagine Grace Kelly could have worn this on her wedding day (that is, if she hadn't worn Fleurissimo). For people wanting to feel like an exquisite flower.

deentova

I have just tried this perfume. It has surprised me in how much it changed over time. Quite strong at first.. One feels high spirit notes... But then it reaches a creaminess that changes completely your impression. Given its strength and character I would imagine that this is a perfume worm by a grown up lady who is confident of what she likes. It is not playful or airy... It is a down to earth floral feminine scent!

truffles

Mmm, green fizz on a bed of white floral creaminess. Most of all - I find there's a softness here that's VERY much in the style of my beloved departed Ricci Fleur de Fleurs! I'm thrilled to find it! Have a 2nd hand mini, I'm keen to have a spritz from a big bottle.

houtstemmer

Diorissimo is very special. No doubt about it.

justchillinxo mentions "acetone" and "synthetic". To comment on the latter, that's what Diorissimo is, synthetic. Lily-of-the-Valley smell in perfumes is always brought about by a synthetic substance since it is impossible to extract a good smelling oil or essence from the flower.
As far as the acetone note is concerned, I smelled that too when I sniffed at an opened vintage bottle. But this note subsides quickly.
Although a pleasant fragrance, I was not overwhelmed.
However, I feel sorry for all the Diorissimo lovers. Because of crazy IFRA regulations Diorissimo had to be toned down as far as the Lily-of-the-Valley replicates are concerned.
No doubt perfumers will find new substances that are almost or just as good as Hydroxycitronellal to restore Diorissimo to its former glory.

churinl

I started out 2 weeks ago with no bottles of Diorissimo and only a vague impression of what it would smell like. I knew I would like it, and I definitely wanted it for my collection, so flash forward to today, and I now own 3 bottles of various vintages and concentrations, with a 4th on the way. One is a sealed EDC in the houndstooth box, and also a partially full EDT in the same box. Stunning! I was worried it would be a bit too biting in the way that LotV can be, but this is so smooth and feminine. Charming and clean are words that come to mind. I am happy to report that the 3rd bottle, also an EDT but from the pink box with the white oval is equally gorgeous, almost completely full, and fresh as the day it was opened. I am waiting for the 4th which is from the same vintage, though the juice looks darker and may have turned a bit. It doesn't matter because I now have enough Diorissimo to use as luxuriously as I want to, and though today is a chilly winter day, I can not wait to bring this out in full rotation in the spring. My next quest after owning both Dioressence and Diorissimo is Diorella, but I will likely wait on that one - too many others I want more. There is a reason this is a bel oved classic and I am thrilled to have fallen under her spell!
=======
After settling down for a week, I retested them. They are all in great shape, and I am even more captivated by their beauty. The jasmine has shown up, along with the lilac. I am deeply in love with this fragrance!

tandem_4x4

I was wearing vintage Diorissimo in the heat today and it was such a big difference with the colder weather. It is much much more interesting and pleasant in warmth. It shows pretty flower notes which play their song in a very clean way. I fell in love with it today.

annxyz

Diorissimo used to have a great deal of presence , but my recent purchase is deflating . It smells linear, flat , and would never offend anyone because I have to press my nose to my blouse to detect it after two hours.

Why can’t the houses of Dior , Chanel, and Givenchy maintain the quality of the gems that created ? So many of them now smell literally like cheap impressions of the originals .Do these corporate decision makers figure we have forgotten what the real perfume smelled like for many years ? Do they think we are just dumb and will purchase their products because of their name recognition ? I won’t .

Save your money and but Jessica McClintock instead of this .

tandem_4x4

Lucky to get the very old bottle (112 ml) with a broken atomiser from the local ad website.

After spending some time to remover the atomiser and happily moving bright yellow EDT into the new house, I made my first spray. Lilly of the valley and Lilac are very realistic. Aldehydes are of the old school. Its not just LOTV, it is also strong lillac, but seems the presentation of perfume does not leave room for any violets.

The old bottle smells amazing. I think it is perfect for 2019 when the lilly of the valley and lilac trends are resurrected. will be wearing it for few month as well as my vintage Lancome Climat EDT.

There is a slight difference between my EDT and the new one. The old one is more rounded and heavy weighted. The new one is also good: less aldehydic and smells very happy. Off course old one is less synthetic, but more aldehydic. But the difference is not really that obvious. The new version still carries the true spirit of Diorissimo and the new bottle is so luxury.

mmcgreal

I really love Diorissimo! It's spring in a bottle. Fresh, floral, classy, and super strong for a spring scent. Three sprays at 7am and I can still smell it on me at 7pm. I think I need to treat this like I do my strong winter fragrances, and just spray once or twice. It was my monthly choice in a fragrance subscription but it's definitely full-bottle worthy.

AutumnJan

Spring has sprung! This happy lily-of-the-valley scent is heaven. It has a greener floral opening scent which fades and leaves a beautifully floral plume. The sillage is good, the longevity is good. I spray sparingly. I do not like a fragrance that arrives before I do. Let someone come in for a hug and love your fragrance. Compliments continue. Classy and truly elegant.

AHeartLikeMine

Agree with justchillinxo - this is too strong and artificial for me, although I will say it smells a lot more modern than it is. I wound not have placed this as a 50s scent.

florally

This review is for a BNIB sealed 1960s-era white bow label bottle that I was fortunate enough to find! It appears to have been kept in ideal conditions because the liquid is still pale. EDP concentration.

On longevity/sillage: when unsealing the bottle, I managed to dip an end of the pink thread from around the neck into the perfume. That was more than 24 hours ago, and this tiny scrap of thread is still radiating scent! Two dabs from the stopper on each arm is plenty.

It opens with an interestingly sappy/green feeling, but there's nothing sharp or crisp about it. It's almost creamy, but still decidedly green. Within 5-10 minutes, this blooms into a big golden-tinted lily of the valley bomb. It's rounded and sunny and a little dense -- not airy/watery at all. I do get a little of that sparkling/champagne bubble right at the edges but it's subtle. It has a velvety, golden texture that reminds me a little of the most recent iteration of J'Adore Absolu (2019). You can't help but see honeyed sunlight radiating through the forest canopy and dappling the LoTV below.

The golden LoTV continues all the way and is joined by a very smooth, gentle, soapy softness. This might be the civet coming in -- I have very limited experience yet with that note, as far as I know. There's a refined animalic sense accompanying it so it's likely. The effect is of just soaped skin and it's beautiful.

It's truly a scent that transcends time. It doesn't feel at all dated, but it also manages to transport me almost viscerally to an earlier time and a beautiful place.

I can see how the recent formulations have tried to recreate this scent. The EDT (my sample of it is from around 8 years ago, so not the most recent) captures the gentle soapiness in the dry down, but has a more astringent opening, and on me the LoTV is fleeting. The EDP (again ~8 years old) is somehow both dense and astringent, but I think comes closer to the golden middle part of this formulation thanks to the jasmine. Neither captures the sappy green opening or the intense lily of the valley that radiates throughout the vintage, and neither has the velvety cloud effect. I have a houndstooth mini splash that reads like a diet version of the 1960s vintage -- similar, but again lacking that expansive, velvety heart.

Forbiddenjade

Nothing more can be said of Diorissimo - I have the splash 7,5ml parfum formula (light orange tinted one) - other than MAGNIFICENT.

Never lily of the valley was more authentic, or suave, enchanting, alluring as only spring can be. A flower so romantic one needs only to see it to rejoice at life.

And that's what wearing Diorissimo does to people: it gifts them with a whiff of romance, life, joy.

I just wish they would bring back the original formulation, for the newer versions, though enchanting, are not as mesmerising.
Oh, Monsieur Dior... what you have done by creating this beauty! There is no other scent I can love as much, ever.

Anamandy

I just purchased a vintage spray bottle of the edt and am getting hit with a blast of citrus. The citrus is fading away and the LOTV is coming through. So far, this seems like a very light floral fragrance. I used to have the edt in my collection years ago and finished the bottle because, if I remember correctly, it was very appropriate for office wear. I really didn't remember what it smelled like though, and am not sure if I always got the blast of citrus on first application or not. The bottle of cologne I have doesn't open the same way. It also seems much lighter than the vintage edc I own. I always wanted to purchase another bottle of the edt but somehow never got around to it, moving on to other fragrances at the time. I'm glad to have it again. It's very pretty.

justchillinxo

There is an acetone note that makes this synthetic seeming and thus unpleasant to my nose. It’s not bad but I think there are much better “oldies” to chose from.

Pickeral

I just got a little bottle of vintage Diorissimo from Ebay. I've been so interested in this scent, people seem to love it and I'm a big, big fan of another LOtV, Jessica McClintock. Maybe my little bottle was too old?,it seemed a little monotone. I expected bells and whistles and fan fare and that did not happen. It is a sweet and lovely scent, but doesn't have the joie de vivre that I associate with JM. Maybe it's hard to come by the real deal, I do remember someone else commenting that Diorissimo faded quickly when exposed to light so maybe the fanfare had expired in my little bottle. At any rate, I don't think I prefer my little bottle that was costly, to my more wonderful Jessica McClintock, which is affordable. Perfumes are so subjective I guess and sometimes the inexpensive variety is the one that is worth it's weight in gold.

SnowStorm111

Diorissimo is the sweetheart of my collection – it is as young as the spring itself! I like lily of the valley. This is not a widely spread plant in North America where I live, but growing up in Eastern Europe, I remember it blooming under every fence in May, tiny bouquets wrapped in shiny dark green leaves being sold on spontaneous corner markets along with brunches of purple and white lilac. I wished I could bottle that scent… Diorissimo comes closest: the lily of the valley dominates here, but it’s not the only flower, I get lilac, bit of jasmine, green leafs and stems, still dewy. I have EDP purchased in 1999, it lasts good 7 hours and dries into a bit of civet (detectable, but not overwhelmingly animalic) with little to none sandalwood and just a memory of white flowers. The good news for me here is that lily of the valley in Diorissimo doesn’t get “soapy”. Soapiness is the reason I couldn’t wear Muguet de Bonheur by Caron and Yardley’s Lily of the Valley; and also, unlike those two, Diorissimo is full of sunshine.

LadyIva

I’ve just spent four days in London, sniffed what feels like hundreds of new releases, and ended up purchasing the oldie goldie Diorissimo. I don’t know about the vintage versions of Diorissimo and how different they were to the present-day editions, because I’ve never tried them; but this contemporary version really works for me and I have no complaints.
This is an incredibly beautiful floral-green scent, wearable throughout the year. On my skin, the scent opens with very prominent lily-of-the-valley, amplified with some citric notes. As it progresses, the LOTV note makes way for jasmine, which dominates the central period of the scent’s skin life. The final stage features soft sandalwood and some powder; I don’t get the animalic notes at all. Scents such as this one are the reason why perfumistas love the house of Dior, in spite of some recent disappointments.

Azina

My Mom's favorite and mine too.

masako_30

I think of this fragrance as a family jewel; unique, precious, magical. It was the scent of my mom.
I will wait patiently for the day when I can wear it, as a balm on my heart, again.

Seducianne

Very realistic lily of the valley. Might just be that my nose is not a "note detector", but it's almost a solinote fragrance for me. Very uplifting, pure, dewy lily of the valley. Perfect scent for spring, sillage and longevity are rather moderate, so I guess one could go with a heavier hand on this one. Safe blind buy for lovers of fresh florals.

Palebluedot4

Tyngre än vad jag förväntade mig. Det animaliska, tvåliga, pudriga blir för framträdande på min hud. Fin doft, men känner mig för ung för att bära den.

Tom Petitgrain

I find the first 5-10 minutes to be a cartoon blast of white florals (mostly lily-of-the-valley), but once the heart starts to beat, it really is exquisite. The wildness of those first few minutes doesn't let you in on how tame and wonderful the dry down is.

fyrewoman

When I found a sample of this earlier this year I immediately sold my Jessica McClintock away for less than $9. I knew it was worth spending 9 times more to get this instead. This is so much more beautiful. Well crafted and well rounded.

There is a huge difference between JM and this gem. JM has a similar LOTV composition laced around a gasoline/petroleum base while this one has a pretty pear-like top note, smooth florals and a cleaner base.

yuliannart

A beautiful fragrance. It is green and flowery, it is from the previous century. I kept smelling my wrist, it was so familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it, until I checked Fragrantica. Amaryllis! This is it! My grandma grew bright red amaryllis in the winter, and we all watched it and waited for it to open up. And when it did open, the room would be filled with this exact scent. It is not lillies-of-the-valley, it is a perfect amaryllis fragrance! I might have to persuade my mom-in-law to part with her 15-year-old minni! ;)

justfloral

The best lily-of-the-valley perfume I've found so far.
Soliflore. Pure lily of the valley, with it's dewy, grassy, peony, lime, litchee, tea rose, pear nuances I can scent in real flowers. I couldn't stop sniffing my wrists. Wonderful!

daenrf

This is the first real perfume I owned. My mother bought me a bottle for Christmas when I was eleven or so. It was one of those tall, rectangular bottles with a light grey cap. It's so odd to think that's vintage now (I'm old).
Now I have a vintage mini (dense, boozy and dark orange, less innocent) and a fresh sample (a lot lighter, more appropriate for young ladies), and so far those have been enough for me. If I want to smell like lilies-of-the-valley and bouquets of flowers, this is the first thing I reach for.
It's a beautiful fragrance. I wouldn't mind owning a bottle again, one day.

NoelleNice

I don’t know what to say about Diorissimo except that when the scent hits my nose it is heavenly perfection. It’s a gorgeous blend of florals for me that ends up smelling like a garden full of Spring flowers drifting in the warm breeze. It’s comforting, intoxicating, rich and classy. It will always hold a special place in my heart. This is my signature fragrance and I’ve worn it on and off for about 18 years. I know it’s probably been through a number of iterations but regardless of the formulation it is always many happy memories in a bottle for me.

vintagelover

I have just got hold of a 1982 bottle of this. I have no experience of the modern day formulation but the old formulation is just such a pretty scent. When I read Lily of the Valley I felt sure I would be disappointed as remembering my childhood it was always a scent that came across as quite cloying. I now realise it must have been cheap synthetic scents that I was being subjected to. Diorissimo is really quite simple to my nose but that simplicity is what makes it such a delight. It's fresh and as already alluded to, spring in a bottle. A bunch of freshly cut lilies looking beautiful on the sideboard. So very feminine and not something I would usually choose but I am so glad I did.

PaperGhost

Spring in a bottle. It’s quite a simple fragrance but don’t let that put you off - it’s bright and luminous and fresh (but not in an aquatic way) and absolutely glorious. It’s a happy fragrance, I just can’t feel sad wearing this. The version before the Creations de Monsieur one is better and can still be found at reasonable prices on EBay, although the current Diorissimo is better than no Diorissimo at all (EDP has better staying power than the current EDT). If you like Lily of the Valley do yourself a favour and try it. If you don’t...well, more for me!

LiliaBetty

This perfume is close to my heart, I spent my childhood days by the river in my hometown and there were huge trees known as mimusops elengi (flower capes). The flower smells exactly like diorissimo.

When I first had this perfume in the mid 90’s , i cried as it brought back memories and it has been my no1 loves in fragrance. I am not familiar with the years of reformulation, but I did notice each time the potency differs from another. But I appreciate them all and still my favourite. Diorissimo is a must have for me. This is one of Dior that I will wear when I have to attend weddings or celebrations.

cocolover56

I have a vintage bottle of this from the 1980s. It's seen some sunlight, more than a few week's worth anyway. Maybe the current formulation wilts in such a small amount of time, but the 80s version still smells fresh and beautiful.

I've found this fragrance to be both the perfect Dior & the perfect spring time scent. People go on and on about a scent has to be complex in structure or through the ingredients used... Honey, no. This scent is proof of that. It's a simple, elegant and beautiful lily of the valley with a touch of indolic jasmine, lilacs and civet. It's the type of scent that's a joy to be around and a joy to wear.

It reminds one of dancing around fields of flowers or, in my case, walking home the long way from school where all of the beautiful flowers were. It didn't smell entirely like this, but in the summer or spring there were many beautiful fragrant oils leaping from the petals and wafting in the breeze. In the winter time, the frost amplified the more indolic touches. In the early morning, the dew made it damp and a touch humid. That is this scent. You can really wear it anytime, anywhere. I can imagine it being a beautiful wedding scent.

Simultaneously smells ahead of its time... but also like an age old classic. Just stunning. Can't praise this enough.

As I have said in previous reviews I was a counter manager for Dior for a few years. I adored Diorissimo!! It was so impressive to tell clients it's fun orgin story and how lily of the valley was Dior's good luck flower. He would even pin some into the hems of dresses before they were shown for luck. A note to any one who intends to own this precious fragrance :

It is the most light sensitive juice I have ever encountered in my entire career selling cosmetics. Testers would turn within weeks of being unboxed, from the store lighting alone. Please store this in the dark, at least in its box. As with any fragrance this will keep its notes intact so you can enjoy it longer. As for notes, if you like lily of the valley this is for you!!! My chemistry turned this into a hot mess, on clients it was stunning (as long as the tester was fresh)

sandifitzg

I just received a used vintage bottle of this fragrance. The juice was a dark amber colour and I am afraid that it has gone off. There is only the smallest hint of the original fragrance left. It was eau de toilette so that makes it even less detectable. Maybe it was left out in the sun and heat. Does anyone know if this fragrance has a shelf life? I am so disappointed but at least I have a lovely bottle. It is a big one too being 112ml and half full.

Titania gracing an outdoor wedding, the Snow Queen in her sled in winter.
Pure lily-of-the-valley, budding green, blooming to ringing white bells and fading to pungent roots.

My mother wore Diorissimo, which is the only thing I'll ever have in common with Prince Harry, I'm afraid.

Starlett_Sexton

Can someone please let me know if the vintage edt does it last long or the current edp? Plz
Let me know which one last longer???

artkleno5

Diorissimo is my all-time favorite fragrance. It makes me feel energetic, elegant, refreshed and wonderful. If your scent does not do positive things for your spirit, find one that does. Occasionaly, though I will wear other scents. Some are woody and pungent for when the mood calls for that type, like being cozy in my flannels by the fire. Diorissimo is so special to me. It also has an appeal that has people asking what scent I am wearing. Fragrance is something very personal and for me, my signature scent is this one.

Tigerlillian

I was able to sample a vintage EDT from a houndstooth bottle, not having yet compared to the current formulation.

Like some vintages, my sample opened with a dark, alcoholic twang, like acetone or Sharpie markers. Within a few minutes this settled into a beautiful spring garden.

Not light and sharp like one might expect of a lily of the valley scent in the vein of modern compositions; vintage Diorissimo is green and verdant, dewy and rich with LOTV and deep purple lilacs. Crushed green leaves and golden nectar folded into perfectly crisp bouquet. This is quite a bit deeper than I imagined, but beautiful none-the-less.

I'm wondering whether a fresher vintage or the reformulation might be more 'fragile' or 'delicate' as other reviewers have experienced. This vintage has some subtle civety business going on that delivers an undercurrent of something elegant and less innocent than the tiny white flower might imply.

Annabear

As a 20 year old, I remember wearing this to work in a musty conservative building in George Street, Sydney in the '70's and the middle aged receptionist exclaiming that I was wearing "oranges and lemons". Diorissimo is not a citrus based fragrance, but the Lily of the valley and jasmine are so fresh, that one could be forgiven for mistaking the floral explosion for a burst of freshness straight from an orchard.
Diorissimo has been one of my all time favourites for so many years, it sparkles, it shimmers, it's young and exuberant, and the reformulation is reasonably true to the original. I adore it.
You can hear soft bells chiming when you wear this fragrance! It's a fragrant melody straight from heaven.

Wooster97

Beautiful floral heart and sappy opening !the mix of Lilly and lilac heighten your love for this!a lovely mix and the aromatic lasting impression is wonderful!i can see why princess Diana was buried with this classic scent ,her all time favourite !

Not a review - a question: Has anyone come across this fragrance in the "eau de satin" concentration? Is this equivalent to an EDT? Vintage concentration? Thank you! Want to do a blind buy - never tried this and saw this type of concentration. Never heard of it.

Thomaso7

for the EDT - really like this one, it is so fresh and lily of the valley. I think there is other stuff underneath too. awakens the senses a bit compared to something more oriental, but is still relaxing. a touch of clean soapy scent too like the real flower.
Seems like it would go great in a flowing white lacy frilly dress or shirt. anyways that's what comes to mind. or maybe a clean cut one like a some 50's style. It's a bit prim and proper, but still it has soft powder and some syrupy playfulness. The color white comes to mind. also, there is a little bit of an orange scent, some leafy green scent and some warmth.
Quite a clean floral scent and really nice. Even with soft powderiness, and I love powder.
The pink box reminds me of white shoulders by Evian, which is another floral, but different.

cocolover56

I have a 100mL bottle of this from 2000, the bottle is frosted and the juice smells remarkably similar to the juice of today's. It just seems a little lighter and lasts longer on the skin

Perfect for spring mornings when there is a little bit of frost, lasts the WHOLE day. Absolutely beautiful LOTV scent.

Wore this little beauty in my twenty's,& was very much put off it with a fellow work colleague who told me it smelt like "Sparkle Furniture Polish"!! Rotten cat lol!! I'm very pleased to say that after all these long year's that have passed I treated myself for my Birthday a fresh new 50ml bottle,& wow I'm so glad that I did!! I wore it for the first time yesterday,& git the most amazing compliment from my Mum,who immediately asked me what that beautiful Perfume Was that I was wearing!! Then just today my Husband's brother in-law asked me the very same question as he was leaving, saying "Paula you smell absolutely gorgeous today"!! lol'lol'lol!! Diorissimo may have been reformulated from I first used it all them year's ago,but let me tell you that it is still very much the unique beauty she alway's was!! Imagine taking a plunge into a fresh clean lake on a beautiful warm spring/summer day,& you look up through the clear water as you surface to the top,& the sunlight glinting of the water as you do so!! Diorissimo certainly is very much a single note Fragrance!! Very much Lily Off The Valley,& so well constructed!! I can honestly visualise "Dianna Princess Of Wales" actually wearing & really enjoying this beautiful classy gem!! I'm so glad that I have Diorissimo firmly back in my Perfume collection once again!!

Chic-girl

I never get tired of this gorgeous fragrance.
I have 2 vintage Parfums: 7,5 ml and 15 ml, 2 different vintage eau de Toilettes, and a current version edp. I love them all.
It's so fresh, but there's something like yummy toffee (caramel) flavor. It really isn't syrupy candy flavor, I couldn't stand that kind of note in perfumes. It's something that makes me think of toffee, even it isn't there.
I think that if you wonder has your bottle gone bad, then it must've gone bad. It's such a beautiful and fresh and there's no smell you could suspect of that.
It really smells like pure lily-of-the-valley, and it's perfect.

Edit: I love current version (eau de Parfum) so much, it seems that I choose it more often than vintage-eau de toilettes. Vintage Parfums are also awesome.

pozimhoff

This was the start of my life long affair with Lily of The Valley. Diorissimo was the perfect Lily of The Valley until they started substituting Stephanotis for the key ingredient because of cost and availability issues. Still a lovely fresh springtime scent but not the same.

NeveD

Lily of the Walley is the top middle and last note. I don't get anything else. Because of that I don't like it.
I think it's a great perfume but for the time it was made.

amanda-m-lewis

Mmmm It's interesting that to some this smells like civet (anal glands) ??? I honestly didn't get that but I did get lily-of-the-valley, lily-of-the-valley and more lily-of-the-valley so much so that I could not smell anything else...It really is possible to overdose on this stuff !! lol..

Which is a shame as I actually do like lily-of-the-valley , just not as much as what's in Diorissimo.

It's just one scent overpowering everything and very unrealistic to wear, so I parted company with my bottle.

It could be uplifting good on a summer's day though for those who wish to sample, so don't let me put you off :-)

sepheme

Diorissimo is music. It is girlhood prancing in a sunny glen, the twirl of a white circle skirt, a sonorous warble; it is whispered secrets, and heads tossed back in giggles. It is lily blossom cups for fairy baths, and the soaring clarity of young Judy Collins' voice. Lest these images be too pure or girly, it should not be forgotten that lily-of-the-valley is a deadly poison. Underneath all that sweetness and light is an unwavering dose of seriousness. It is whimsical, but grounded. Sparkling, but austere. Come-hither, and independent. I would not wear it regularly, but for that occasion, maybe a wedding or graduation, it could be perfection.

sarage

Since lily-of-the-valley is my favourite flower, I have always wanted to have Diorissimo, a classic and very realistic LOTV fragrance.
It smells like a soliflore scent almost. The fragile, delicate nature of this spring flower produces a beautiful, clean and pure scent.
I am sitting inside a heated house, snow blizzard outside, and sniffing this elegant spring flower and dreaming of the more gentle season. :)
Every lily-of-the-valley fan should have this!

supremexcess

Diorissimo may very well be one of the most breathtakingly beautiful floral fragrances in existence. I would say that it almost a lily of valley soliflore. I do detect some ylang ylang somewhere in the background but besides that it is lily of the valley all the way.

Unfortunately the "real" Diorissimo is no longer available because it has been reformulated several times but if you can find a vintage bottle of it on Ebay you really need to buy it at once because it is a true gem that needs to be in every fragheads collection.

no-fi

Diorissimo is the perfect lily of the valley scent. It's verdant, bucolic and unnervingly beautiful. I couldn't imagine a scent more redolent of early spring.

My full bottle is still in the post so tonight, in anticipation, I splashed on most of my 1ml sample. Seconds later, to my absolute surprise, my usually indifferent partner announced that she loved it. She sniffed it out from halfway down the hall and asked: "What's that? It smells wonderful!" When I told her, she asked if could get some. I didn't say I already had a bottle on the way... it'll come as a nice surprise!

On to the scent itself. I had been hunting for the perfect lily of the valley to wear this spring, but nothing had really spoken to me. I liked Yardley's interpretation, but it was too fruity and soft. I also loved Tauer's Carillon Pour un Ange, but alas, Andy doesn't ship to New Zealand, and online stockists charge the earth.

Enter the genius that is Edmond Roudnitska. I was already familiar with the depth and subtlety of his work through Dior's Eau Sauvage, which is hands-down the perfect citrus aromatic. So it came as little surprise that a decade earlier, he'd created the ultimate lily of the valley scent for the same house. Lily of the valley is a hard note to master - it can't be extracted from the plant itself, so it has to be created, one aroma chemical at a time, from the perfumer's imagination. Roudnitska did a masterfully realistic job, but he didn't simply create a soliflore; he threw in notes of fresh green leaves, sappy stems, subtly sweet jasmine and a subtle touch of creamy sandalwood. The effect is symphonic.

By today's standards, Diorissimo could easily be unisex. It is floral, but it's so far from cloyingly sweet that it never comes across as overly feminine. It is a scent tied more to nature than societal gender norms.

Diorissimo stands tall among the true greats, and is easily one of the best floral green scents ever created. Even if you don't like lily of the valley, or the green floral genre as a whole, you owe it yourself to sniff this out. It's a watershed of perfumery, and utterly gorgeous.

Moonsecret

I used to only wear Diorissimo, from when I was 20 (in the 70's), and for a long time - years - and I loved it to death!!!!! It was the only perfume I loved.

I still love it, but I like heavier perfumes now, and it's really too expensive for me anyway, so I haven't owned or worn it now for a few years; but I will never not love it.

It is lily of the valley. It is beautiful!!!!!

sfdla

Scored a SEALED houndstooth box circa 1965-1975 and I carpe'd that diem--although to be fair, I opened the box with the lovely Antonia and Naisha at Tigerlily for moral support. It wasn't even a little evaporated or discolored, though sadly the adorable brass sprayer doesn't really work.

Enough of that and onto the smell--which is the purest, more realistic spring floral that ever happened in a bottle. It's that fleeting whiff of lilac when you walk past a bush in full bloom, with honeysuckle and lily of the valley, maybe some jasmine. Floral but so atypical in its purity. There's no detectable musk at base but it's not childish at all, very elegant and fresh. Youthful without being young, feminine without being girly, and maybe even a little majestic but without hauteur.

Previous to this my reference for lily-of-the-valley was the classic Caswell & Massey box of three soaps, but there is no soapiness to Diorissimo. Despite its being a total classic there is also no "grandma" smell whatsoever.

So very lovely.

Käfä

I adore the pure Lotv. The only Lotv-scent I've tried that actually smells like the real deal.

Unfortunately it has really, really poor longevity on my skin.
I do however get some compliments while wearing (within the first half hour of applying that is)...

I'm really glad that I own it, but will not re-buy at full price. Hopefully I'll find it for a steal in the future, because as I said, it's a gorgeous scent.

Tapinview

The quintessential Spring floral, capturing the fecund beauty of the lilies and flowers bursting with life, pollen and joy. So distinctive, immortal, and perfect, spawning the plethora of modern screechy chemical florals hoping to ride on its perfection. I have everything from treacle coloured vintage up to about 2005 when LVMH changed to the slightly top heavy generic bottle of edt. They are all lovely. Best kept from too much light, there is something in there, possibly an aldehyde, that really reacts and goes dark, but I've been lucky in that even the dark juice still smells incredible. An absolute must have, another monument in the art of perfumery. Of all my vintage perfumes, this is probably the one that could pass as contemporary. It must have been so revolutionary when Rousniska created this pure heavenly floral perfection.

LLB_addict

Alyss - thank you for the mention of the extreme sharpness in the beginning. I bought a partial bottle of the vintage and the seller didn't know what it was supposed to smell like in order to tell me if it was "off" or anything. I thought that it was WAY OFF when I first sprayed it. Now I will wait about an hour and see where we are then! Thanks again xoxo

Alyss

for me this is the ultimate perfect grown up lily of the valley, cool and fresh, white-green floral, cold and screechy when you first spray it. It is not linear in my view, as there is something warmly elusive in the dry down, but I feel it is quite an abstract and even melancholy meditation on lily of the valley,. Sometimes when I feel cool or sad in the springtime, this is the only perfume I can possibly wear.

This review is for the vintage Pure Parfum

Constructed in the 1950's when women portrayed glamor, Diorissimo hits the scene & adds a lot of class to the market.

Fresh, floral & soapy are some of the words use to describe this scent. This is a heady floral concoction that screams elegance.

It is very feminine & smells of a garden filled with flowers namely Muguet. This is where I have a problem with this perfume, I realized I do not like muguet what so ever. In fact, it smells very vile to my nose.. that note ruined the entire composition for me.

I had no plans on wearing it, just for collectors purposes, but it got to the point where I didn't want to open the top to smell the fragrance. For those of you who can wear this bless you, but be aware, if you do not like muguet or have never smelled it before, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!

TaleOfTheRose

If there were a fairyland in the world, it would smell like Diorissimo - redolent of innocence, purity and uncomplicated happiness.

It was the first perfume I bought when I was a teenager. I am still enchanted by its clear delicate scent which just likes walking through a forest with lilies of the valley in bloom. Even it is perfect for spring, its ethereal character works well in winter when the air is crisp and cold.

Vintage parfum review.

(If anyone wants to try this, happy to swap a decant for my want list.)

Too soapy, too green too floral, too harsh. Lots of people love it, but it's not my thing.

Southern Blonde

O my God what is this beautiful dream I'm having? Could this be my perfect wedding day fragrance? This is like a soft hazy vision of finding lily of the valley in a forest. There's lots of greenery here, green notes galore and white lilies. There is a freshness at that first spritz like a rain that falls on your skin. The white flowers are so pretty. This is such a beautiful perfume. I can't decide whether or not to wear this on my wedding day because I'm so in love with First by Van Cleef and Arpels and have chosen that one but it's not until the end of the year so I have time to choose. This is really amazing. If you like lily of the valley this is the most beautiful lily of the valley fragrance ever made.

nettoyant

Turns out, I have a bottle from the 80s. When I bought the "vintage" version from a Canadian etailer I didn't realize it was THAT vintage. I just thought it wasn't brand spanking new.

I get freshness, airy florals - fresh lily of the valley, a bit of lilac, ylang-ylang. No obvious civet, or rosemary. In the base there is a touch of sandal. But, none of this matters. What I really get is SPRING. Gorgeous, moist but fresh, slightly green, sweet spring. My perfume nemesis is sharpness. I just can't stand stabbing citruses meant to be fresh but never really translate for me. This is in no way sharp. It's so smooth and soft (ETD) but fresh, which says pure mastery in perfumery.

psichic

I just received vintage Edt in the hounds tooth style bottle and I am so delighted. I am so glad that I have read about how vintage scents can smell terrible for the first two minutes. Sure enough this delicate fresh scent transported me to a spring morning in my Mother's garden.
And then to the hilarious day in the late 80's when my poor dads had to deal with my fuss that they had purchased the wrong Dior and that I had expected a bottle of Poison! When I finally got Poison with money from my first job, I learned that what we smell in the paper in a magazine may bear no resemblance to what shows up to play on our skin. They have had their revenge at last as I have recently mistakenly purchased an amazing vintage boxed set of Miss Dior Edt Edp in search of this Diorissimo vintage. There may be Lily of the Valley scents similar to this that are easier to acquire but I am living without regret at the moment.

feelyah

I fell in love with the fresh fragrance that you breathe in stores Dior that comes from Diorissimo. On the skin is very strong, wintry, not very youthful. It is particular, I can't say I don't like it, but it is not even among my favorites.

Gigi The Fashionista

1956 VINTAGE EDMOND ROUDNITSKA'S DIORISSIMO

Prince Rainier smelled this on Grace Kelly and this is why he married her LOL This fragrance comes out of a time when women smelled better than we do today. The flowers were freshly cut and presented in the most beautiful bouquets imaginable. What happened to us that we'd rather receive expensive jewelry or clothes than flowers or at least floral fragrances like this one. Diorissimo is a garden after a rain. It invites you into a courtyard adorned with a fountain, and flowers of lily of the valley, lilac, boronia and amaryllis. You look around and you're surrounded by lush dark green bushes and plants. It smells like a little palace garden where they have carefully cultivated such beautiful flowers. A fresh burst of bergamot begins this fragrance's performance. Some green notes are clearly there right from the start and are there at the end. This perfume is not heavily floral and yet the flowers in it are strong: lily, lilac, jasmine, boronia, amaryllis, ylang-ylang and lily of the valley. Lily of the valley is the most dominant scent. This is a very green-and-white floral scent. There is a touch of spice coming from God knows where. The civet keeps the fragrance warm, especially because there are aldehydes that are also present in the opening of green notes. Sandalwood is strong here. This fragrance is utterly fantastic. It's Oriental. It's herbal. It's aromatic. I have not smelled anything quite like it. The formula in the original is so beautiful. Edmond Roudtnitska created it and he's the same guy who created Femme Rochas. That one of course is very different from Diorissimo. Diorissimo lacks all the fruitiness of Femme but it's just as feminine because it's so floral. The reformulation is not bad, it's just not as effective. The new formula, as with reformulated L'air du Temps, is a clean fresh scent that you can easily put on after a shower. Soapy, clean, nothing complicated. It smells like the original but the civet is gone, the sandalwood is not a big player or it's also missing and replaced by vanilla and amber. I love this perfume because it has flowers that are hard to find in perfume: amaryllis and boronia. If you've ever smelled those flowers in person you'll recognize it in perfumery. Sweet, floral, soft, feminine and classy. I also like that it didn't go in the direction of other fragrances that have a lot of flowers but turn super musky at the end or are heavy with leather like original Miss Dior, Miss Balmain, Fracas or Bandit. This fragrance is purely floral and youthful. It's spring time and virginal, like a young woman who is just getting out of school - run by nuns. Now she is ready to learn about the real world and she's already off to a great start because she wears this perfume.

Bellissima fragranza, bellissimo connubio di mughetto e gelsomino.
Molto naturale, verde, fresco. Essenza di primavera.

cinzia.andrei

ma secondo me non è mughetto, ma assolutamente gelsomino

hannyd168

Ok I use this since I was a child with my mom and my sisters...:)

AnnaT

Some dark green comes from the bottle upon application. It is a garden at night! a very real representation.

Then the perfum was reduced to skin scent and then completely disappeared. I like the opening very much. It is terrible that it didnt develope into something promising. Even if the perfum was linear, I would have been delighted to smell the garden at night for several hours because i like green note, almost every kind of green.... no such luck for me, the fragrance disappears within one hour of application.

I can only think of two good things; lov here is not headache inducing or harsh or piercing; and it is definitely a safe office scent.

Use this as cologne and you won't be disappointed. It is very unisex.

update: i have tried this one during different weather. No chance of improving it's longevity.

Old Herbaceous

I used to wear Diorissimo back in the 1980s and it made me feel wonderful. Sad to say, I tried this new version today at Saks, hoping that my nose wouldn't be able to detect any difference. It does. The first blast of lily of the valley is just as wonderful as it used to be, and it does last for about an hour. The dry down is really disappointing, ending on a slightly urinous note of synthetic civet. I haven't gotten into the world of buying vintage on ebay, as it seems so hard to know what one is really buying. So farewell, Diorissimo! I'm sad to say goodbye.
Luckily for me, I had already discovered Decou-Vert, which is fantastically LOTV! That will likely become my go-to lily-of-the-valley green fragrance. And today I also discovered Tom Ford's White Suede, which is a musky combination of LOTV and suede. It's wonderful on its own, and I'm excited to try the sample I got layered with my Decou-Vert. A happy ending after all.

Update: The plot thickens! I learned from the blog Bois de Jasmin that the eau de parfum I tried is NOT based on the old Diorissimo, even reformulated, but was designed by a different perfumer, Francois Demachy; apparently the EDT and parfum are still close to the original. Today I tried the EDT. So far, no urinous note! Maybe I can still have Diorissimo ...

Rosey167

This to me is pure jasmine... hmmm... nice but not special.

basgam

Lily of the valley essence with soap. The initial lightness can turn into sourness if overdone. A bit too suffocating. I disliked it. Nothing special.

magie

I have been wanting Diorissimo for a long time.I wanted to use up some other perfumes before I bought it, but I knew,or thought I knew, what it smelled like, so I ordered it on-line. I was surprised when it came. It didn't smell like Diorissimo to me. I understand from reviews that it, like others has been changed, reformulated. So I ordered an older bottle from ebay. So here goes, white box, pink label, new bottle of EDT. First blast is strong, fresh & green. A grassy green, maybe a little synthetic, but fresh. Then after a few minutes it settles into LOTV and jasmime, with lilac in the background,it stays this way for about an hour or two, pretty but linear,it doesn't seem to change on my skin. Then it seems to fade away. Older bottle of EDT,pink box, white label, bottle also has a white label. I think it is from 1990's maybe 2000's. First blast is softer, more floral, but still green and fresh. After a few minutes it becomes creamer, softer, but still floral. The LOTV and jasmine are there, pretty & soft, they seem to warm on my skin becoming more feminine. The newer bottle is OK but not what I remembered, the older bottle is more what I was thinking & it lasts a good four or five hours. It does become a little soapy in the dry down, but I love soapy. So what to do?
Dior is not cheap. The white box cost more than the pink box & and both were fairly expensive. I decided to wear both. I first spray the new bottle and then over that,I spray the vintage. I also use the parfum extract on my pulse points & wala!I have the closest thing to the Diorissimo that I remembered years ago. I would also like the purchase the vintage perfume some time in the future, but it will have to wait,as I have blown my perfume budget for now. All of the reviews were a big help, but EmeraldDreams really helped me know what to look for on ebay. Thanks Emerald

edlih

I don't know what happened I used to like it, not anymore, good that my last purchase was only a 30 ml bottle....I had it in my youth and I liked it a lot, now I even can't stand the smell anymore...there is a different note in it I think...

GabriCookies

I discovered Diorissimo on my workplace, since we have plenty of testers that we spray around the rooms when the air isn't fresh enough.
Now that I've come to learn the history and the caliber of this fragrance... What a blasphemy I must say!

What I like about this fragrance is it's monotone: it smells almost the same from the beginning till the end. I love lily of the valley and how its smell was reproduced in this scent. The lilac is definitely the most prominent tone, even though I detect some grassy, green notes.
This fragrance is for women, and I see many commenting on here that it is the epitome of femininity, but I don't think it necessarily is. It is a pure white floral, it's an innocent scent, but I don't find it feminine exactly because it is so simple. With it complexity reduced to minimum, I find this fragrance perfectly unisex.

I am a guy and I am not ashamed to say that I adore this fragrance and I love to wear it. I think it's about time that we boys abandon the fragrance train wrecks that seem so trendy for men nowadays (the musky citrus, the sweet spicy and the woody-cat-piss scents). Only thing I'm not crazy about is longevity, that as expected from white florals is not the best, but I assume it will work better in the warmer months.

AdrianB

I have the most recent formulation. Got it in an adorable mini set that is set up like a jewelry box. Anyways...

Fresh lilacs is what surrounds me with one spray. I do get lily of the valley, but only in a supporting role. Lilac is the star on my skin, and I love it. It's like sitting outside when the lilac trees are blooming and the grass is freshly cut. Springtime in a bottle, this is the lilac Holy Grail for me.

Moderate longevity and sillage on me, which for spring suits me just fine.

wildpearwoods

Ended up selling this. I love Lilly of the valley...but Dirorissimo was just too "green", "grassy" smelling to me besides the lily scent. I understand that it is probably an exact representation of what the flower in a bunch with the stems smell like....as I have smelled the actual flowering plant...but there is a component that I just can't learn to love and get my nose around. WPW

Michylaka

What an utter delight! I have a vintage bottle from the sixties and I love this ultra feminine mainly Lily of the Valley scent. The other notes I detected were Jasmine and Lilac. Then I picked up some Sandalwood on the dry down as well. I feel so ladylike and understated. I am thrilled to have this for one of my "new" spring fragrances. Nothing is overdone here just a wonderful botanical experience. The sillage is moderate and the longevity is six hours plus. What a treasure!
Vintage 10/10 Modern ?

opa

A pure wonder for sensual and aesthetic enjoyment of one's refined demands... but if you are lucky to be a proud owner of a vintage edition! Nothing comes close to that if you are looking frag's under such a name right from current perfumery shops, even elite ones. Modern editions of this treasure are all washed off compare to the vintage formulation. I am a happy owner of vintage EDT and Perfume formulations - both are wonders with an excellent longevity. Velvety, soft, calming in an optimistic way, non screaming combinations of flowers where Lilly-of-the valley having its major part in. Love it exceedingly!

Fhaldara

I absolutely love this fragrance, though I do agree with those reviewers who find the original scent to be best. Lily of the Valley has always been my favorite flower, there was a huge bed of them growing in the yard of my childhood home. I think May is my favorite month because that is when they bloomed. Some bloom beside the house I live in now. When I first experienced Diorissimo in the 60's, it brought me back to that yard in May. Extremely evocative for me! That the lily of valley is synthetic doesn't matter - it was done perfectly. The green notes and jasmine make themselves known, but take nothing away from the main scent. Diorissimo is, in my opinion, the best of all possible spring fragrances.

unmonotiti

This is a very delicate perfume, and must be handled as such. While it does smell very much like lilies of the valley, its chemistry can and probably will be altered tremendously by other smells, like I have experienced on myself. It reacts terribly to soap, particularly with Dove, at least on me. It smells green, even citronella like. If I wear a coconut soap, however, that note lasts much less and the lily comes out eventually, but is very subtle and doesn't last very long.

You are right riverbank, as the lily of the valley is the only scent they can't / never could extract, It is a synthetic " Muguet " in perfumery . Diorissimo has been reformulated manny times over since is creation, so did Chanel 5 ext. It is a beautiful fragrance ! The 1st of May , in France it is a tradition to offer some " Muguet " to your love ones to wish them good luck / good fortune !

riverbank

This is a perfume I wore when it was first released in 1956. I was just twelve years old and it was one of my first perfumes. A long time passed before the 1990's when I bought a bottle for myself so that I could make spring start a little earlier and last a little longer each year.
I remember the little nosegays of Lily-of-the-Valley that the French loved to wear pinned to their lapels in the spring and this perfume is still the scent of those virginal white flowers wrapped in their own green leaves.
It doesn't matter that the perfume's scent is synthetic because 'Diorissimo' does such an accurate job of recreating the essence of the flowers' scent. I have made my bottle last and haven't bought more in the last 20 years so I have no idea whether the latest version of this perfume is everything that it used to be. If it has changed like so many of the old classic perfumes that I remember from my youth in France, then that would be a shame.

CeceliaHuynh

This is a very retro-smelling perfume. I prefer Muguet by Annick Goutal as it has less of that green, powdery smell. It is a distinctive, sweet scent but it would seem strange on a young girl.

Every now and then, the question pops up as to the different iterations of Diorissimo.. Has there been reformulations, are the newer versions different than the older?

Well, the other day I received a bottle of 70s Diorissimo EdT (chequered box in black and pink) which I can now compare to a 80s pure perfume as well as a 90s/early 00s EdT and to the latest version "Creations de Monsieur" (which my unsuspecting husband gave me for Christmas).

Let's get the latest version out of the way quickly: it is insufferable and has almost nothing to do with the original. If it was a dishwashing detergent, it would be too sharp and chemical smelling.

The happy news is that if you get hold of a vintage, it almost doesn't matter from which decade - the formula is basically the same: a near perfect replica of the real flower. I am sure there has been changes, a little tweeking here and there, but to my nose they are impossible to detect. Since there is always the risk that you lose something over the years with older bottles, you might as well go for a 90s /early 00s (pink box white oval).

You might however want to stay clear from the late 00s white box with a pink oval, that came not long before the launch of Les Creations. I think they had started reworking the formula then, and stealthily tried it on in the old bottle with a new box. It is likely this version Turin refers to in the guide as "unquestionably different from the older version, though still a thing of great beauty."

Eloquaint

I have both the current version of this and part of a vintage bottle that I got from a friend after her mother died. To me, it's a beautiful elegy, a garden frozen in time, lily of the valley and lilac and violet. A wistful fragrance. Very lovely.

PurpleLilac

It is described as "fresh and clear, just like a dewy, spring morning in the woods".

I find that to be the most inaccurate description. It is sweet and heady and rich. There are no green notes to relate it to the woods.

However it is a beautiful fragrance with a very strong syrupy lily of the valley and lilacs with a very long silage.

gardeniapetunia

The reviews declaring this to be light and fresh are perplexing; this is a deep, rich, lily of the valley fragrance and nothing like the sweet concoctions of today. Perhaps it is light compared to other heavy fragrances like Chanel #5 or Aromatics Elixir, but when I think light; Be Delicious, Chance Au Tendre, Vera Wang Princess or even Jessica McClintock's Lily of the valley come to mind. I don't mean silage or longevity just the depth, that deep, fifties smell... what is that?
I prefer this in fall and winter because it is rich, although not heavy and I wish I knew the notes to tell you but it might be the animalistic aspect that rounds off the sweet Lily of the Valley. Nothing like Muguet Du Bois (which my mother wore and sweet before its time).
I have been wearing the edt of Diorissimo for 35 years and it is still beautiful, even as the bottle and formulations have changed. That said, my current bottle is 12 years old or so....
The richness of L’eau d'Issey edp orginal might compare. Not in scent but depth.

Another year has passed, and yet again Diorissimo accompanies me on May Day. It's just as absolutely stunning and perfect as the last time I wore it. It's not just that the perfumer captured the presence of lily-of-the-valley perfectly, although that itself is miraculous; there are no hints of baby wipes, pool floats, sunblock, or any of the other industrial applications in this lily-of-the-valley, which is common amongst its peers. The real expertise is in making the scent wearable, and Diorissimo really delivers. The perfumer made much effort connecting the soft, tender, breathy qualities of the flower to the same qualities in skin. The end result is something between a perfect illusion of the flower and the classic eroticism of a soft, pale exposed breast. A miracle in perfumery, and the only lily-of-the-valley that is worth considering, period.

Bought this at a perfume discounter kiosk at the mall for a few dollars lesser than The Bay (for personal reference). Initial spray brings sharp green and LOTV. The scent is piercing, strong, loud and headache-inducing. i have to wait about 30 minutes before I can fully enjoy this. It is still piercing and LOTV-strong but not a headache-inducing. If I close my eyes, I can detect the jasmine. This perfume stays linear from start to finish and is perfect for spring. Kenzo Parfum D'ete is another LOTV scent but a much quieter one. Since skin chemistry differs, you must try before purchasing. On me, this lasts longer than on my co-worker who can barely detect it after an hour.

One spray on me:
Sillage: about two feet for one hour then trail or a foot afterwards
Longevity: about 4 hours
Rating: 4/5

Wow this is beautiful. Lily of the valley done perfectly, so much nicer than Jessica McClintock. Something about it makes me sad and melancholy, which is odd because it's so pretty.

Scentmad

In this review I am referencing the vintage Diorissimo. This frag is a heap of Lily of the Valley, with peppery and fresh green notes (daffodils/grass/dewy spring leaves) and it’s delicious. Now, this is a perfume I initially struggled to get on with when I was younger. As a devotee of Diorella I thought I would love Diorissimo but it’s been a long old journey and I have to say it’s be worthwhile. I have dipped into this perfume over the years hoping that it would suit my skin and play nice. Finally, I have been rewarded and I have begun to fall in love with it. I adore Lily of the Valley and have worn Penhaligon’s Lily of the Valley for eons which is a fantastic composition IMHO and leagues ahead in many respects – maybe because it suits me more.

I would say that Diorissimo does not share the complexity of Diorella or Dioressence however it’s very pretty and sparkles beautifully – absolutely perfect for spring.

I think my heart just skipped a beat! I had a chance to test this today in a perfume shop and i must confess, first time i took a sniff, it didn't impress me much. But as the time passed by, it developed into the most refreshing scent I've ever smelled recently. The lilac and lily of the valley are the most dominant notes here, merging into an almost men's cologne. It's so invigorating, like bathing yourself in a mountain river and catching a breath of fresh air. It's definitely on my "to buy" list. It would be a beautiful scent in hot sunny days.

lassmichdich

beauty and happiness, sometimes on the verge of hurting but never actually do. like looking at a beautifully lit sky where the sun peeks out of clouds or other objects.
i predict i'll have it before long, i can't imagine to be strong enough and reasonable about my exploding perfume collection...
it's just very harmonious and pretty is all.
and like the cherry on top, longlivity and projection are excellent, too.

lanuitblanche

I have a vintage circa 70's, and it's like a drunk lily-of-the-valley, that joyfully laughs and laughs on my skin, like a naughty pixie or a peal of tiny bells. There's just nothing more Spring-like than Diorissimo. I ADORE IT.

Sillage is gorgeous, and it has my preferred projection, about 2 feet. Up close, it is soft on me. Very strange and delightful.

Maglyn613

I got a sample of the EDP and, as hopeful as I was that this would be better than my current sig frag (JMC, JMC) it is not as good. There is something missing in it. It is really beautiful and I can't figure out what exactly, but the JMC has something Diorissimo doesn't. I have now tried Muguet Des Bois, Van Cleef Muguet and Bonhair and none of them is even close, in my opinion. I wonder what it is that is missing.

Antares811

Wow! Great floral. Beautiful lily-of-the-valley. Elegant and feminine. A must have for big florals lovers.
One of my favorites.

Maglyn613

I just need to ask ; I just ordered some of Dioissimo vintage and can someone tell me something? I have been a user of Jessica McClintock for over 20 yrs and would like to switch because, although I love JM, I think there is just something a little off about it. I have just recently realized it is the LOTV I am really in love with and there is a scent out there that is what I want because I have smelled it. I wonder if someone could describe to me the difference between the two fragrances. I think the sample I smelled in a magazine was what made me fall for the JM so I guess that means I loved the top notes.

Oh, I got Diorissimo from my beloved grandmother, the lady of the ladies, when I was maybe 12 years old. I used to love lily of the valley back then, and spray copious amounts of this on to my skin. I wore Diorissimo when I went to 7th grade - I surely stood out of the group wearing something like that. What a perfume for a 12 year old! I had a passionate relationship with Diorissimo, until my body chemistry changed (puberty, anyone?) and it started to smell horrible. Too much civet for a teenager. I threw it away, which I regret, now that my grandmother is passed away, and it would remind me of her, almost 12 years later...

But it's a wonderful, old timey scent. I think it would suit someone, who loves Jane Austen novels and white lace.

MyFairLady

I absolutely adore this fragrance. I get my beloved lily-of-the-valleys right from the beginning on my skin, later mixed with jasmine. The scent is so incredibly gentle and delicate - like a lovely bouget in fresh water, so full of life. Just beautiful. One of my favourites.

kmcgrath

I love lily of the valley and jasmine so I was really looking forward to trying this (and paid quite a bit to get my hands on a sample). It opens with the strong sharp smell of lily of the valley and green notes (including the sweet smell of fresh cut grass). However, there was also an unwelcome note that reminded me of latex. As it mellowed, the lily of the valley became sweeter and a touch of jasmine emerged.

Overall, I was disappointed. In my opinion, there was nothing special about it - I've smelled prettier, more tempered lily of the valley perfumes for far less money. It smelled synthetic to me. While it dies down very nicely, the fragrance is very subtle at that point. I won't be buying this one.

fiouu

I'm just going to say:
I've had this (vintage), I HAVE this, and I plan on repurchasing as long as it exists.
There's nothing more comfortable, safe (in a really really good way), pleasant than Diorissimo.
I've admired and loved this perfume since I remember, the muguet... so natural, so enticing, so fresh and at the same time warm.
When I wear this I feel free, calm, happy.
This is a fragrance that will always evoke good times.

aliora

A friend of my mother apparently wore this really well (and in the EDT formulation no less) and this was the perfume she wanted me to wear when I was a budding teenage perfumista. Something light and floral. Pretty.

It smelled like mothballs on me.

I wish I got what so many people have described below, but I don't think my chemistry agrees with this, and over the years, I've realized that lily of the valley, or lily of anything really doesn't sit right on me.

That said, a friend of mine pointed out that there's actually quite a bit of jasmine in this blend, and jasmine can read like mothballs on me too, so that might be the culprit.

flamingjune5dwj

This fragrance and the original Miss Dior remind me so much of my mother, she loves them both, but alas, as many have commented the current productions of all these beautiful old fragrances are just not the same.

My mother still has old bottles of both Diorissimo and Miss Dior, they belonged to her mother originally, and I remember when I was younger, sneaking a dab of that old Diorissimo bottle every now and then - it was a richer creamier sweeter lily of the valley, that seemed to linger and last for such a long time. A beautiful delicate floral.

I recently purchased my mother the new most likely reformulated bottle, and although she loved it, we both agree that it is not the same. I still enjoy spritzing it on when I am home just for the sake of memories, but it is no longer the sweet creamy lily of my childhood - it is a greener sharper and soapier lily, that unfortunately fades quickly. The actually lily of the valley note is only present in the new bottle for me in the opening, as soon as it dries down its all clean green - such a shame.

For the price, I doubt I will buy a bottle of this reformulation for myself. I do hope that one day soon these old legends will be done their true justice once again.

shasta

This was in high rotation when I had a full bottle. If I could, it would probably be my signature scent. I absolutely adore this scent. It is a fresh, clean, green, true floral. Though somewhat linear which is what attracts me to this scent. Years ago, I saw this in a discount bin in a chain drugstore in some little hick town. Being Dior and ridiculously inexpensive, I bought it. If only that could happen again. Everyone says that it is similar to Jessica McClintlock. While they are similar there is no comparison. I like JM but I love Diorissimo!!

SouthernLady

This smells like cut grass--there's really no other way to put it. I had read so many glowing reviews about this fragrance that I really, really, REALLY wanted to love it but one spray on my wrist and I couldn't wait to wash it off! So awful.

Admittedly, I know I have the modern incarnation of this scent and I can accept that there could be a stark difference between the original scent and whatever it is now but seriously--I would avoid this one at all costs. Unless maybe you want to seduce your landscaper...

suemass

My Grandmother loved Muguet Parfume....her home always smelled of it. My Mother loved the real thing, planting hundreds in her front garden. For me, I find it a bit too sweet but will chase down anyone wearing this scent just to indulge in the olfactory memories. This is one of those wonderful and remarkable fragrances that you can never mistake for another. It leaves an imprint of the wearer for a few wonderful minutes. I thank you all that choose to wear it.

greenelf

I am surprised to see so much negativity about what I have always thought to be a gorgeous, lush, lily of the valley floral. I have only a tiny mini in the old packaging from the 80's now, but I remember this as one of the most pure and true Muguet based scents I have ever worn--and I LOVE muguet! Coty's "Muguet De Bois" was my first muguet floral, back in high school in the late 60's, and while it was rather loud and uncomplicated compared to this Dior classic, it was affordable and youthful. This scent has the green, wet notes and also the lilac-y note of boronia that you find in real muguet flowers when they are fresh picked. I have always imagined Grace Kelly wearing this, for some reason, back in her 50's glory!I agree that the original Jessica McClintock scent is a lot like Diorissimo--and Cynthia Rowley had a fragrance a bit like it, only not so lasting. Muguet IS a rather virginal scent and I am way over the hill for it, I suppose. I still adore it, though!

rockegg

You can't really judge the scent of this by a vintage bottle. I've never known a perfume to go "off" as quickly as this. A fresh bottle smells lovely. An old bottle is bad news. I also found it to be a heartbreaker in another way. The scent lasts about a half hour on me. Total waste of money. Oh, well, who wanted to smell like lilies of the valley anyway? I did ...

Ben's Aldehyde

My mom has a big old (very old) bottle of this stuff. She bought it because someone told her it smells just like lily-of-the-valley, her favorite flower.

Lots of "lily-of-the-valley scented" soaps smell like this, but no living flower ever has. Lilies-of-the valley aren't this sweet, and their scent is sharper and clearer.

I find that lilies-of-the-valley have a "singed hair" note, which is present here, but this perfume is one big fuzzy mixed-up boquet, not a portrait of any particular flower.

Perhaps the juice I tried has gone off, or perhaps it's just my skin chemistry, but this bouquet also smells half-dead. It's musty, dull, and sweet with the sweetness of decay. The singed-hair note is particularly prominent on me, which is simply off-putting.

Perhaps if the juice were fresher, or perhaps on another person...

I always did think this one smelled a little funny on my mother. I bet skin chemistry is largely inherited.

Foti

Very impressive perfume but I don't think it has nothing to do with original Diorissimo. Any body out there knows if this is a late reproduction version by Dior.

stanfield65

This is softe ultra femenine fragrance, lilly of the valley is the main acord with some soft jasmine in the background. I just bought my first bottle ever after trying it several times and I just can't get enough of it. It last's several hours, 12 and still counting, and forever on your clothes.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

trishar

Cannot get enough. Simply, softly and completely lovely.

floralfragrance

My mom used to wear it to work when I was a kid, so I have always catagorized it as a grown up, serious fragrance. It is a very refreshing floral. It has the same clean and soapy vibe as Chloe Love, but just the vibe, they are totally different. This is full of personality and very much like chanel fragrances. It is very seriously feminine. Unique.

Renata tang

Way to expensive, the similar notes jmc only 23~30 on ebay.

I own this one (though I don't really use it very often anymore) as it is one of the few I recall as being a very little girl. My mum likes Diorissimo and usually buys one bottle after another. She isn't as fond of perfumes as I am, she never was and she still isn't, that's a heritage I get from other of the strong women that I am also grateful to have had ahead in my family, and from my father who was responsable of my first perfume obsession when he gifted me my first velvety brown Caleche box when I hadn't reached my teens. Back to Diorissimo, I perfectly recall myself opening with my then tiny hands a small lovely fluted bottle and then smelling the cap to find it was the exact same smell that would lasts just for a few seconds in the few opportunities I had had of receiving a doll as a present. As you can imagine I kept coming back until my mum decided to put her perfumes out of my reach.

Still today when I first spray the perfume I get this memories but I must agree with many others in this case, the reformulation is much weaker. I guess it isn't only the base notes which are reducing a lot the lasting power of the scent, but the lower quality of some notes, jasmine used to be much better in previous versions. This complainment about reformulation is also applicable to other scents of the same line such as Dioressence or Diorella. Dior should reconsider trying again or they'll find us rejecting to use our money in their products.

I liked the lilac, lily of the valley, jasmine, lilly, ylang effect. It used to be less simple than it is now. Being a spring summer scent original Roudnistka included complexity, appearing to be a soft scent it had a rich close to skin but noticiable settle down of which actual formula in my opinion completely lacks.

I've owned and used previous versions of the edt, now I have the new edp and it doesn't last more than two hours on my skin. I am against the new marketing strategies which include watering the products and trying to force us to carry a tiny atomizers everywhere we go. I want my perfume to last at least five or six hours. Even my mum comments on this point and is rationing her use of the edp vintage bottle she still has.
