Alien Essence Absolue by Mugler is a Amber Woody fragrance for women. Alien Essence Absolue was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Pierre Aulas. Top note is Jasmine; middle notes are Cashmere Wood and Orris Root; base notes are Vanilla Pod, White Amber, Myrrh and Incense.

Thierry Mugler adds another edition to the Alien perfume collection (founded with the original Alien from 2005), Alien Essence Absolue, in summer 2012. The new fragrance is described as richly intense, sensual, deep and mysterious.

The composition is developed by Pierre Aulas from accords of white jasmine flowers, orris root, animalistic black vanilla pod, incense, myrrh, white amber and cashmere wood.

The bottle design is inspired by the classic Alien bottled style and gold drops used as talismans in the Orient.

Alien Essence Absolue is available as 30 and 60 ml Eau de Parfum Intense and a refill of 60 ml.

The longest lasting and most potent perfume I own and I own quite a few. I’ve had this gem for two years now. I’m about halfway done one of my two 60 oz bottles, and yes I paid the outrageous prices that these are going for, and they were worth every penny.

druidica

I am absolutely obsessed with this fragrance. It is so beautiful to me. Sensual ambers are probably my all time favorite fragrance genre and this absolutely hits the spot. It's up there with Grand Soir and Ambre Sultan for me. I find this way better than the OG Alien. But of course it is discontinued and absurdly priced.
I cannot believe they discontinued this. And for what exactly? Another tame and inspired flanker of a flanker (Goddess) (Whatever that new Angel is). Essence Absolue will haunt me now. I have to cherish my decant, but how can I do that when I want to wear it to bed constantly on these cold winter nights?

Anastuki

This is like if warm and rich vanilla hugged the jasmine of the OG Alien! Deep, Intense, beautiful!!! I Absolue love this!!! 🤩🤩🤩

TheFl0rist

I was able to get my hands on 12 ml decant couple of years ago. I was blown away immediately! later I found 30ml bottle of Le Gout which is called similar to absolu. I was very disappointed with it, le gout is too sweet for my liking. I couldn't use up my decant for fear of running out. I would steal a spray and pack it as if it's something extremely precious, well it is!

I am insanely lucky to to get a stellar deal on a 60ml bottle of absolu shipped off from Dubai. That's under 70USD! I couldn't believe my luck and was sceptical, waited and used it several times to be sure I got an authentic bottle! Yes!!! I got an authentic bottle shining in silence of dark closet. I'm ecstatic!

Those who are still running after a bottle of absolute, if you have access to Dubai local market, look for it. The sellers might have few bottles carelessly tossed under their shelves unaware of their potential price!

Now, There's nothing new to say about it, essence absolu is pure heavenly bliss, spicy vanilla with Alien dna! What else do I need!

MissAleksandra

I have a few back up bottles of this gem and can think of parting ways with at least one. Dm me here or on Instagram @idreamofperfume if that could be of interest! I’m based in Europe but can send it anywhere.

Dear fragrantic friends, please be very careful buying this perfume, particularly on eBay because i see tons of fakes also for ridiculous prices: if in doubt don’t risk and ask for pictures of the batch code, bottle’s bottom, box’s bottom..

This is a Perfume with the uppercase P. I have not much more to say about it just because in the comments below you guys already explained very well how amazing it is. Beautiful sweet vanilla combined with incense and a little bit of something mentholated.. it is WOW!
It lasts for very long, one of the rare cases I never feel the need to reapply during the day ‘till night. Easily goes for 8/10 hours on my skin (it’s almost a record for my type of skin!), on my clothes it doesn’t leave until i put them in the washing machine. But (with the right amount of sprays) it never is too strong or “too much”,never gets annoying , it’s just beautifully perfect, particularly in the cold.

The only downside is the fact it stains, so be careful with light color clothing!

I bet the late Mugler is turning in his grave seeing what they did to his masterpieces and what new they launched under his name. Almost criminal, to me.

Novalee_Marie

My root beer scent

Creamy, spiced vanilla. Mmmmmm

TheDeleeShow

I love wearing this with casual outfits. It’s warm and inviting - but not overbearing/overpowering. The vanilla comes out quite strong on me, but it’s not overly potent. It would be my go to for casual wear, with more earth-toned clothing.

Melody Valentine

I bought the FM version of this and I'm not impressed. I love a good clone and have tons of Lattafa, Fragrance World and other generic clone house scents but this is so weak and doesn't smell like AEA. It's more like the og Alien. FM suck but nobody else in the UK, that I've found, does this particular one so I took a chance. I wish Julianna's was available in the UK without having to pay huge shipping fees. I might aswell buy a real second hand one off eBay. I'm gutted. It's nice enough though, as it's own perfume, but for anyone thinking about getting it it's not great. Hopefully it'll get stronger by the time next winter comes. Maybe I'm judging it too soon. I don't know why Lataffa or Fragrance World haven't gotten onto it, they'd absolutely kill it and make a fortune.

*I really hope this does get stronger with time coz it's growing on me! It smells like Alien with honey or something. I usually hate honey notes but this is nice. Just not very strong at all.

singlehandedbeauty

This is an absolute masterpiece—creamy, woody, powdery magic in a bottle. It's a warm, balsamic, ambery dream of a scent that performs like a niche fragrance. I bought it a few years back before I was able to appreciate it, but hung onto it knowing how special it was. Now that I've resolved my headache and migraine issues (ciao ciao gluten) and have trained my nose I'm finally able to give this perfume the adoration it deserves. I feel like me when I wear this, but save it for special occasions or when my mental health needs a boost. I'm so very grateful to have such a beauty in my collection but simultaneously mourn for the house of Mugler. Alien Absolue was created at the height of Thierry Mugler greatness. Loreal sure knows how to destroy fragrance and beauty brands.

semperfii

you know those fragrances that u wish u had never smelt because it is ridiculously priced, but u fell in love & bought because u can not unsmell something that amazing?
this is a HOLY GRAIL. i don’t understand why it was discontinued. as much as i love the og, essence absolue is worlds ahead of it. this is the sexiest, most well rounded, DELICIOUS thing i have ever smelt. Yes i spent the insane amounts it’s going for on a bottle. it’s worth it to me, because this is one that u never forget. i need it in my collection lol. it is beast mode longevity, a compliment magnet, & makes me feel like i’m walking on air, which only a few fragrances can accomplish. anyone else who has this knows exactly what i’m talking about. mugler, please get rid of that awful “goddess” & bring this one back! 10/10

Clean, Powdery Marshmallows & Rootbeer-Floats melt into a River of Honey...

This review is for the Julianna's Perfume dupe of Alien Essence Absolu Mugler called Scarlet Letter (not in this database yet). Opens with white-floral, clean and soft-purple tones from jasmine, but already vanilla & myrrh are swelling through. As it deepens into the heart the white-floral tones with added orris root become more marshmallow-y, powdery & sweet, and the myrrh-amber-vanilla combo intensifies bringing Root-Beer float tones. Jasmine lingering in the heart, takes on some faint near-grape tones, and here you see the Alien jasmine. The base notes are a sublime blend of white-amber, vanilla-pod, incense & myrrh that carries the marshmallow-rootbeer for well beyond average performance, but eventually melts it into a thick ooze of white-floral-honey.

This is a gorgeous white-floral & amber-vanilla scent that does get quite sweet but wears exceptionally well in cooler weather. While this is a dupe of Alien Essence Absolu, I also catch reminders of other resinous white-floral & vanilla scents like Classique Essence de Parfum JPG, Amarige Marriage Givenchy, Cinéma Yves Saint Laurent & Organza Givenchy. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

Bibi16

This really is such a beauty and truly shines in the coldest of winters. If you find it, buy it!

I got the most amazing compliments wearing this and will always cherish the remaining I have. Desperately looking for a dupe that would scratch my itch because these resellers on eBay are sick in their heads. £190+ for half a bottle is madness.

Gyps

I don’t know why but I smell butter menthol. Having said that this is a stunning fume. Very expensive, especially on eBay but you gotta do what you gotta do right? Anyways, this bottle I have is going to be lasting forever, as I’m not keen on the prices. Only to be used on special occasions. A deeper, more intense version of the OG Alien. Typical TM, never disappoints 😍

underneath

Lol I'm so dead. This lovely perfume, this masterpiece, has crazy prices online. And I dislike that but I know some people gotta get their coins. BUT I was today years old when I found out, that Justin Bieber perfumes cost even more in Europe due to discontinuation? I'm eyeing a gift set on eBay for 189 euro's?
What is wrong with the world

nigels_human

A stunning, sexy fragrance - a bit sweaty and salty with a major dose of the original alien and some gourmand notes mixed in. If you can find it, try it.

Linis

For anyone who wants this frag, The Dua Brand has a great affordable dupe (extrait version) called Alienated Essence. I love it, even though I never got to smell the original Alien Essence Absolute. =)

lily_prr

I smelled it once, and it's unforgettable. Picture a warmer, deeper version with amber and vanilla, like Alien but uniquely captivating. I’m sad it’s not available anymore :(

darkgiu

What is the point of making you fall in love with a unique perfume like this and then discontinuing it? Alien essence absolue has been my signature scent of all time.... I have always worn this perfume for night outings, whether summer, spring, winter or fall.. Now it is unobtainable and I am trying to emulate it by doing some layering with other scents I own and dupes.... It's a pity that they discontinued it after all the success, I don't think I will buy other thierry mugler perfumes if they like to discontinue Jewels like this and then produce characterless mass perfumes like Alien Goddess..

PerfumePixie87

I ordered a sample of this and I'm unsure why I did this to myself. Of course this is long discontinued but this was a love at first sniff. Everything I loved about the OG Alien back in the day but amped up to the max. Creamy slightly bubble-gummy jasmine with balsamic resinous amber. This is potent and sexy as I remember Alien to be, pre-reformulation. This is a more grown-up version, the heady big sister. I am in love and might have to trawl the internet for a bottle!

Jojose417

Can't believe how lucky I am to still have this, bottle almost full, I picked it up at Marshalls back in the day, can even remember the display and being like oh I keep hearing about this one yay! Must have been about the time it was discontinued. Don't know what to say about the scent except amazing and turns caramelly on me, that is when I let myself wear it lol

Angelxo

I’m selling my bottle. PM me if you’re interested

Atouienne

Devastated that this is discontinued I adore it. I had this as my winter signature for years there is nothing like it, warm comforting sweet yummy creamy amber jasmine perfection I miss it so much

TLDR;
This liquid is pure nectar of the gods. But--for the best and most consistent experience of this glorious creation, keep this baby in its box. It really makes a difference with this one.

Full review:
I bought my first bottle of this in 2015 and instantly fell in love. I had a love affair with Alien, collecting the flankers and this was my most-used one, my go-to in cooler weather.

Then I went on a 5-year fragrance hiatus, storing away my entire collection during this time. It was only last month, in mid-September when it was still warm out (around 70’s or low 80’s I believe), that I re-visited AEA after coming back from my hiatus. One spritz and the memory of its deep, rich, cozy luciousness came flooding back. BUT there was also this potent menthol note that I do not remember whatsoever from the banks of my scent memory. I was not a fan. Maybe my nose became more sensitive in detecting this note, maybe my tastes simply evolved after all those years. Who knows.

I was in the process of selling off my entire Alien collection at this time, but because I had such fond memories of AEA, I decided to keep this bottle, the last Alien left in my collection, to re-visit during cooler months.

Yesterday, I sprayed this on and oh my goodness. The depth, the sensuality, the sweetness that envelops you without being cloying. All of the yumminess was there—WITHOUT the menthol note. None whatsoever. The only explanations that I can think of for this is that:

1) The composition of AEA is in peak synchrony during cooler / colder weather. Wearing it off-season will throw off it all off balance, e.g., a way off-balance menthol note
2) My sensitivity to certain notes has changed after this recent bout of covid that has been going around this past Fall

Whatever the reason, this scent experience has highlighted the virtues of patience as a fragrance lover and just how delicate our relationship to scent is according to so many personal or environmental factors that are beyond our comprehension. I am so glad I didn’t declutter this considering how much it’s going for these days.

UPDATE Nov 24, 2023:
A few weeks after I posted the above review, I sprayed this on again and the menthol / indolic note was back. Puzzled & back to square one.

Today I received a 60ml bottle with about 15ml of juice left. Juice color was way lighter compared to my bottle, and this bottle was kept in the box for most of its life except for instances when it was in use. The bottle condition was almost pristine considering how much juice was used. Scent also does not have that mentholic note whatsoever. With my original bottle, I 100% believe the maturation of the juice outside of its box brought out this note. Scores of perfume lovers and experts have recommend this as a best practice, but this is the first instance where I have experienced firsthand the preservation of a fragrance over time when it was kept in its box vs. when it was not. My bottle has been hanging out without a box since 2015. This one is a finnicky one according to my varying experiences. In summary, for the best and most consistent experience of this glorious creation, keep this baby in its box. It really makes a difference with this one.

I love this stuff. I'm on my 3rd bottle. I buy mine in Europe because I'm a bit paranoia about getting duped. Prices are .. similar to Tom Ford and since I don't splurge on those perfumes I feel like I can buy this instead.
I think key words to think of are resinous Amber, myrrh, butterscotch and vanilla but make it more elegant thanks to the jasmin.
I know mugler perfumes don't agree with everyones skin chemistry. So if you smell mint, I'd say its your skin chemistry.

The opening of this one reminded me of Givenchy's Ange ou Demon, in that they both contained a cold, metallic vanilla that made my stomach churn a little. In Ange ou Demon, I attribute the cold, metallic note to the saffron note but I dont know about this one hmm...

After about an hour or so, the amber and incense becomes more pronounced and it swings from a dislike to a strong like for me. I am content with having just a decant of this as I mostly wanted this for reference. If you dislike it, maybe try and sit with it till it dries down!

ingrid.superstar

Imagine, if you can, the opening of this fragrance which is a punch in the nose of the following: mentholated bubblegum, banana jam, syrupy jasmine, and almondy Play-Doh with a hint of root beer/sarsaparilla spiciness. But it works! This larger-than-life, flesh-eating-but-freakishly-charming jasmine flower hangs around for about fifteen minutes before the fragrance overall settles into a vanilla-jasmine-myrrh combo that smells like white-floral Play-Doh mixed with vanilla extract...or sweetened condensed milk infused with myrrh and jasmine. Somehow the presence of myrrh in a fragrance always reminds me of Play-doh -- salty-sweet and richly vanillic, somehow tactile to the nose if that makes any sense. The clunkiness of some of this description is not doing much justice to the beauty of the fragrance, which is foremost surprising and unusual. For all of its weirdness up-close, though, it is extremely likable in its huge sillage.

Absolue is sort of adjacent-smelling to Mugler's Alien Goddess Intense and Dior Hypnotic Poison, two other white-floral vanillas, but the Absolue is much, much better (the absence of coconut helps) -- this is what I wanted from Alien Goddess Intense!

thefifthliar

Long time fragrantica browser, first time reviewer. Unfortunately I just can’t seem to understand why the love for this fragrance is so strong. As someone who loves Alien, loves its flankers (my favourite been goddess intense), absolutely adores jasmine and vanilla scents and was hoping for something sensual, sickly sweet and vanilla like I was deeply disappointed in this.

I bought a bottle (resale pricing) and immediately upon spraying it was overwhelmed with a strong medicinal menthol smell. It was so strong to me that I thought I was just smelling my toothpaste or mouthwash on me but the more I smelled my wrists the more it was clear that it was in fact the perfume.

As much as I wanted to love this, I just can’t. I even showered, put on freshly washed clothes and re-sprayed myself as well as my clothing to see if the longevity would be there and hours later I still wasn’t able to smell it on myself. I re-applied to give it a chance but the menthol smell really ruins it for me.

The dry down is more a skin scent, I can smell the vanilla and jasmine as well as a hint of cashmere but this is deeply sniffing my wrists. I hate that I didn’t like this as much as I hoped I would but will give myself some time to keep trying and hoping it grows on me.

I can say that I do feel that men would probably love this on a woman… up close and personal it’s very boozy and intoxicating but it’s just not what I was hoping for. I was hoping for more projection, a complex vanilla and jasmine combo with they unmistakable alien DNA.

Update:

Okay I get it now. Once you finally get past the medicinal menthol hit you initially get HOURS later the sweet, creamy warmth that everyone describes is there. It’s just one of those perfumes you really have to give a chance because for me I immediately wanted to scrub it off.

I don’t think I would wear this on its own but absolutely doused in kayali vanilla 28 its perfect.

Can also confirm this is a perfume that men will love, I had multiple men walk past and ask what I was wearing. Tell me I smelled incredible and this was even after I hadn’t applied it that day. Just on my hair the previous night and on the jacket I was wearing.

I feel like if I was aware of how mentholated and medicinal this smells when I first bought it maybe I wouldn’t have had such a visceral reaction. Once you get past that. It is a beautiful perfume.

Mysticmiah1970

Omg finally managed to snare a 60ml bottle of this after searching for this for years for a decent price. And it’s just how I remembered it it has the dna of alien edp but has a rich resinous amber and myrrh with a creamy vanilla so much warmth to it.Going to save it purely for special occasions so happy I have my favourite alien back in my collection again

marialena888m

The intoxicating, mentholated Jasmine of purple Alien is definitely here, but she is completely wrapped up in warm amber and powdery vanilla…it’s so rich, thick like butterscotch, enveloping like a cashmere blanket. The cashmere wood keeps the composition smooth and velvety, and myrhh gives it depth and mystery, and the incense adds a subtle dry/smoky aspect so it doesn’t get too piercingly syrupy. Very seductive and distinctive. If you love luxurious vanilla scents, give this a try. The jasmine in regular Alien is too much for me and I can’t wear that one, but I love this one. Room filling sillage and 24hrs+ longevity. One of the best scents ever made, superior to purple Alien imo. I would classify this scent as a vanilla oriental, because it’s the vanilla that steals the show in this composition. Shame they discontinued it.

sm311214

Absolutely stunning! Such a shame they discontinued this absolute beauty ❤️

Melody Valentine

I smelled this one time and I can remember it. It was gorgeous. Like a warmer, deeper ambery vanilla version of alien. I'm gonna get the oil perfumery version or another dupe because I keep thinking about it. A few of the Alien flankers were beautiful but they discontinued them, I don't get why. Stunning.

Edit in January 2024, I never did get the oil because Perfume Parlour don't do it, if they did I'd have got the extract spray anyway since I discovered how amazing they are but I've just ordered the FM version. I know FM aren't the best for clones but hardly any other company does it, Julianna's would cost loads in shipping to the UK. This was £22 for 50ml. Will update when it gets here. It's been so long since I tried the original that I'll not know if it's identical but if it's still gorgeous that'll do. I just hope it performs well.

frag_nostalgia

This is so beautiful I'm almost at a loss for words. I found a decantor and will covet this source forever ☺️💗🤐🤫 ThIs is pure amber. So resinous like a vast, thick forest of fir trees oozing balsams in a sparkling dreamscape. Trapped in the amber is the most arresting, carnal jasmine you'll ever put your nose to. Clusters of velvety jasmine blossoms are supported by boozy, aromatic vanilla. Intoxicating. The juice itself is the color of molasses and almost the same consistency. Once it dries it's almost sticky- locked in place on the tiny patch I half-spritzed on my wrist. The incense/myrrh accords develop later, and only serve to enhance the sheer beauty of this creation. The most deserving of the description of "ethereal" in fragrance- and I stand on this. I honestly can't fathom how any true lover of scent could speak negatively of this. I'm almost glad it is discontinued, because the masses don't deserve Alien essence absolue. 😏😉

{The Dua Fragrance Clone Bottle Review}
Alienated Essence ✨

Smells JUST like the real thing. Barely any difference, if you do not want to pay outrageous prices for the REAL thing I am telling you, DUA is the way to go!

This is very pure, earthy, and bright! Although coconut is not listed I do get a tinge of coconut, like a suntan lotion aroma. I get a bit of menthol with the vanilla, amber, and myrrh. It has a bit of an aromatic medicinal quality that makes this so beautiful! Sometimes I want something fresh and bright and not something that is sweet and syrupy. This fragrance is sweet, but floral sweet, not gourmand sweet. It’s sweet but also really smooth with the florals tying into the Amber, vanilla, and cashmere. A TINY bit smoky but MOSTLY smooth. (〜 ̄▽ ̄)〜

EDIT: the dry down is so HEAVENLY! You’re left with coconut, vanilla, and cashmere creaminess 😩

So sad that it’s hard to find the real thing, but I am telling you… DUA has amazing vintage fragrances that are SPOT ON.

A PLACE this perfume reminds me of: Bali 🌴

WHERE would I wear this perfume: Beach, cruise, traveling to any island, elegant party, fancy dinner, New Year’s party, Summer OR winter cabin, Bon fire. 🥂

What would I DO wearing this perfume: Cuddle, sit by a fire, drinking champagne, eating at an elegant restaurant, walking the beach during sunset with the wind blowing, seeing the ball drop in person, seeing someone you haven’t seen in a long time, being a tourist.

What would I WEAR with this perfume: Dress up (Elegant, Fancy) with dainty jewelry and a bun OR Dress down (Cozy, Warm or Summery Casual).

Honestly could pull this off as an everyday scent!

FragranceRain

Mentholated play-doh. It creates a beautiful scent bubble. Very intoxicating and radiates from the skin longer than most of the designer scents. But I cannot overlook the menthol + play-doh smell.

Bmilkers

I have a 10ml decant I purchased with one spray missing if anyone would like to trade for something else :)

icequeen__

Love at first sniff! Sunshine in a bottle.

Queen Bee >0<

Andromeda's Moon makes a great dupe of this. Since I can't get my hands on the original I purchased it and love it! It has a sort of strange cold medicine medicinal hit you in the face at first and then dries down to a lovely ambery honey vanilla spice magic. Apparently this is the same as with the original. I bought a three mil tester but I'm going back for a full bottle.

Greennatalie

This was my first blind buy ever several years ago without having smelled the original alien. I went straight for the overpriced Thierry Mugler version as it was already discontinued. There are only a few fragrances on my hate list and this is at the top. It was truly awful. I couldn’t even scrub it off because it’s so dang strong, so I’ll give it points for silage and longevity. So if you wanna choke out a whole ballroom with that skanky smelling, mature in a bad way, overwhelming scent, this is the one. Since then I’ve smelled several other versions including the original, and I wasn’t a fan but I didn’t hate them either. Alien fusion would be my pick if I had to choose one.

sevbu

I'm keeping my last bottle the way that Gollum kept the ring.

Gatorsrules

I let FOMO takeover my spending and grabbed a decant. Oh boy, I was not prepared. Historically I’m an Angel lover and not a fan of Alien until this was sprayed on me. It’s macerated and darkened, and so have the qualities. It’s a very deep, smoky amber. It does have a camphoric undertone that I quite enjoy. The incense and vanilla are the most prominent on my skin. I do, however find it a bit heavy for the Florida heat, and I’m not one to follow fragrance “rules”. IF I can find a decent priced fb I would get it. If you can try it, do it.!

Acrelune

This is a woman with a very strong personality.
She might sting your nose, you might love or hate her, but either way you’re obsessed with her. And she can tell.
Very dark and sexy perfume.
Such a shame it was discontinued. I barely ever wear it anymore in order to preserve what I have left of it.

10/10

SmokeyLady

I decided to write another review after wearing it for a bit.
It really is Alien candy. Very sugary, a little mentholated but warm. I get a bit anise, probably from myrrh. It has that HP edp vibe, but more like a syrup. It doesn't have enough Alien DNA for my liking, but that means it is well executed and worth having both.

Current prices are ridiculous, everyone saw how good it is only when gone. Maybe because of it they will realize potential for profit and release it again. I mean it is Alien and a gourmand, it is what people want. Not me though. I want first old Alien back and then everything else.

lmnsvgz

I cannot begin to explain how BEAUTIFUL this is. Old Alien, pre-reformulation wrapped in the most beautiful vanilla-cashmeran hug. The vanilla isn't gourmand, it doesn't add much sweetness but it is indulgent and takes the already beautiful and strong Alien on another level.

Sanrio

I never smelled this while it was still being made. By chance, I bought a lot of perfume samples from Mercari and this happened to be in there.

Holy crap, it's so much better than the hype. Ambery, vanillic, floral, and anise (I swear there's anise!)

If I could sum it up in one sentence.. Alien dry down plus root beer.

Btw guys, the juice naturally gets darker because vanillin darkens on its own. Soapmakers are careful about vanillin in colored soaps because it turns the soap brown! It doesn't mean the quality of the fragrance is worse off.

lmnsvgz

If you are looking for something very, very similar try Solano by Le Couvent Maison. I was amazed by how close they are despite the differences in notes. That one doesn't have jasmine, but the overall impression is very, very close to Essence Absolue.

Creamy_ambrette

Thanks to my friend nanaa_from_ghana, here on the forum, I now have this gorgeous fragrance!! I purchased her extra 1 oz and it was the best frag purchase ever!!
This is undeniably OG Alien’s Jasmine but it’s got this amazing, rich, resinous, aromatic vanilla.
There is a slight powdery quality to it, thanks to the Orris root. My nose doesn’t pick up “menthol” from the myrrh and incense notes, my nose picks them up as a sweet, balsamic (resinous) aromatic. One spray on 1 wrist and this is projecting up to my nose with each movement. This is just outstanding and unique and I cannot believe they discontinued this!!

Pia20

Apparently one of the best performing perfumes that I sorely miss, lasts throughout the day with no reapplication needed. Opens with a whiff of menthol and jasmine, and a beautiful dry down of cashmere and amber.

Caseystewart64

This is so good it’s a warm vanilla version of alien… I’m sure it goes without saying that it’s unbelievably unfortunate that this has been discontinued, but I’m an alien girl through and through the original will always hold the number 1 spot for me 👽💜

Rawannnna

This is one of my all time favorites. I have bought several bottles and all in mint condition, if anyone is interested, pm.

RhettB27

This stuff is incredible. My full 2 oz bottle has aged to such a dark deep saturated color, and it’s absolutely nuclear and beautiful. The richness and vanilla-incense and balsamic facets do remind me of Babycat from YSL, but its still something different with more feminine qualities. More floral accents for sure and I gotta say this Absolu is something else. As someone who adores rich incense and notes like myrrh, this is almost something I would wear as a man. Just so incredibly deep and gorgeous and I feel lucky to have it for now lol

Edit 1/6/23: just fair warning if you really enjoy this fragrance but are considering selling it…you will likely regret doing so like I do now 🥲 constantly want to go back and smell it’s rich decadent deliciousness. I have read the new Good Fortune Elixir from Viktor & Rolf is a good alternative but still need to verify for myself!!

nanaa_from_ghana

The opening of this fragrance is a blast of menthol, jasmine, and something warm/sweet. Extremely potent and with the recognizable Mugler DNA running through. As it dries down, the vanilla and amber become more intense while also making room for a little smokiness. One of the most nuclear fragrances I own. You have to be easy in the trigger with this or you will definitely offend people around you (especially if they aren’t keen on strong scents!!). Anyways, this is beautiful and it’s beyond me as to why Mugler would discontinue such a stunning fragrance. This is definitely feminine leaning, but I could totally see a confident man rocking this one.

stinkyfrog

kind of bummed that i've experienced a sample of this absolute delight because now i will truly never know peace again. this might be my favorite smell of all time, not to be dramatic or anything..... but she rly is the amber fragrance to end all others of her kind. alien OG is my love and my signature scent but tbh i wish this wasn't discontinued so it could be instead. on me, i get mostly a deep sweet warmth from the amber with a background kiss of true vanilla, woodiness (the iconic alien DNA i love) and incense -- not too spicy, not too sweet. all the notes compliment each other just right.

i fondly remember wearing this on a HOT summer day, on a walk with my friend through a nature trail. this probably doesn't seem like a summer scent to most but the humid florida heat just made the sillage even larger, and the sweetness even stronger. literally perfection. if you don't like the original alien you are guaranteed to fall in love with this.... but be careful!! like kms i seriously will probably never sleep until i secure a bottle of this gorgeous wondrous honey for myself !!!!!

CeeTee

I confess that my personal, sentimental associations & irrational love for the old house of Mugler color my assessment. But THIS is special. This has two differentiators to my nose:
1. The medicinal, mentholated opening shouldn’t work, but it does. It’s reminiscent of Aura’s green menthol. Only vintage Mugler could pull this off. 💔 No other designer house could have released this. That’s guts! AEA is an avant-garde achievement in a sea of competing vanillas.
2. The myrrh is divine. A combination of jasmine, vanilla & myrrh seems easy to replicate. Yet, no reputable house has. Why? It must be magic.
———-
**Edit: I just spent $279 for a 60ml on eBay. Zero regrets. Word to the wise: If you try to find this, get pics of the batch code (on the box AND bottle) & pics of the front, back and bottom of the box! Also, NOTE! All of these bottles were refillable, so the liquid could still be something else. A reliable seller is beyond critical! 99% or higher with many reviews- and accepts returns.

soapycast

I got this for a ridiculously low price and simply could not pass up the opportunity. I am a lover of all things Alien, and this is no exception. It is identical to the original with added notes of vanilla and myrrh, and with the amber turned up. The true definition of a flanker (though Alien Goddess is very pleasant, it smells absolutely nothing like the original). This is intoxicating, yet much more approachable than the og - while the latter is cold and calculating, Essence Absolue is a warm hug from someone who just came inside from tending to their jasmine garden and started making christmas cookies. A unique take on spicy vanilla. True masterpiece.

Annemieksken

My absolute favourite perfume ever. So sad it’s discontinued.

liebe_anne

Please message me if anyone wants to sell one! Would love to try this out!

marialena888m

I really liked this one, I always get compliments wearing it (mostly from men), but a girl friend thought it smells like toothpaste lol. I can’t wear the OG Alien, but this flanker is right up my alley with it’s deep mentholated butterscotch vanilla. It’s very ambery and I love that. Distinctive scent with fantastic projection. There’s still jasmine in here but it’s not screeching at you like in Alien, instead, a warm, golden vanilla is the queen that rules this elegant composition. A great choice for fall/winter special evenings, but it’s not cloying, so I find it just as wearable on slightly warmer nights (as long as it’s not too warm). My favorite Mugler. I bought a 2oz bottle back in 2016, and I used up half of it before it got stolen 3 years ago. I stumbled upon a bottle by chance online yesterday, and I promptly ordered it since the price was great (hopefully not a fake!), so I am looking forward to be wearing this beauty again.
Update: it’s not fake! Yay!

deenawin

I have this perfume and I only spray one time. :) who want to buy it. just tell me.

CherylTomaatje

If anyone from Europe (I'm in the Netherlands) has a bottle of this perfume to sell, please hit me up! I'm almost out of mine and I can't find it anywhere..

Latinearthangel

Andromeda’s moon has a great dupe.

Essence Absolue

Does anyone has a bottle by Thierry Mugler not Mugler and wants to sell ? I am from Poland

StyleArchitect

My, oh my. Pure liquid gold. I purchased a fragrance oil clone and I totally fell in love so I purchased a unicorn bottle. It’s quite expensive nowadays as it has been discontinued, but I don’t regret spending for it. It’s such a beautiful, ultra feminine fragrance that gets you compliments & it lasts forever. I get a whiff of menthol when it opens and that’s probably my favorite part of the Alien Essence Absolue experience.

AriaLennon

Alien Essence Absolue has a hypnotic smell. It begins with lovely jasmine that is just a tad dark. The heart is quite warm, and the woods are rounder and smokier than in the original smell.

GizPop

Top perfume, so glad to finally have it. I find it smells like Alien+ a marzipan dough and I am all in for that. It is absolutely addictive, heady and one of the prettiest perfumes in my collection. It is almost gourmand. Anyway, it puzzles me why they discontinue such amazing fragrances.

jayznar

Guys I would like to second the below comment by HDL regarding Juliannas Fragrance Scarlet Letter.

Alien Essence Absolue has been my ultimate favourite fragrance ever, I just feel like it matches my energy so well. But now this is a coveted gem so I really never wear the scent! I still want to experience the scent so I decided to go with a clone.

Julianna's Fragrances version I can attest is 95% similar. Scarlet Letter to me is more floral (jasmine heavy) in the beginning, then settles to something VERY similar to Alien Essence Absolue that it absolutely scratches the itch for the wonderful scent.

Side Note: I realized why I love this perfume so much and why it feels so healing and meditative to me. It honestly smells similar to Baby Oil. Like Baby Oil smells on your skin after it warms up. Very calming and nostalgic smelling.

Martha236

If anyone is willing to sell his bottle, please send me a message

Jenyyyyyyyy12

This is way better than Alien!
I just love the scent, but unfortunately not for summer. So I will wait till autumn

Butterball

@VictoriaSmells Yes! So I'm not bonkers. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this same experience. I wish I didn't have to wait for so long for that beautiful dry-down. I've had a 2oz bottle since 2016. I get that spiky cold menthol note at the top that totally caught me off-guard. Then a medicinal anise note lingers for awhile. It takes hours to get to that smoky, creamy vanilla/amber dry-down. I would love this fragrance so much more if I didn't have to get through that weird top/middle stage. I keep trying it every few years to see if my taste has changed. Haven't tried it in a couple years, so maybe I'll try again.

madamfleur

If anyone is looking for a bottle of Alien Essence Absolu and you live in Canada, try Hudson’s Bay. I just found a 60ml bottle and they had one more bottle left 😊

YonaNachev

This used to be my signature scent. This perfume is a damn legend, my perfect perfume. It smells delicious but also very expensive and sophisticated. I am beyond heartbroken that they discontinued this masterpiece. This was the king of the Alien collection. It’s as if this is the OG and the OG was made after this. This amazingness lasted for days on my skin and developed so nicely. It’s a shame they discontinued it, if I had to bring back one product it would be this. My absolute dream scent.

cocodust

Picked up a part used bottle of this on eBay and very pleased to have it back in my collection, it’s the boss imo. The power and performance is unparalleled and it smells so damn good 😊

kristamb

This perfume was on my wishlist for a while, and I finally got a decant. It wasn't what I had hoped. It is a nice feminine creamy scent, but unfortunately too powdery for me. It is well blended and pretty, and I do appreciate that about it I typically love vanilla perfumes, and this one won't be a FB purchase for me. Glad I never blind bought it! Reminds me of a nice Soleil style fragrance, and the dry down is much nicer than the top or middle notes, but still not a "love." Glad I got to try this, but definitely test before buying!

lakhes

This is amazing. once you get pass the first few minutes of in your face jasmine this turns into cosy warm powdery fantastic amber and casmere. It is very sexy too. People seem to love it.(I get complimented a lot) I love it. My man loves it, what can a perfume do more?

faith.roth

I have a 2oz bottle that I’m very sad to part with, but need the money. Let me know if you’re interested.

anaritafsilva04

Hi! I'm looking for a bottle! Please let me know if you’re willing to sell me one :) I’m from Portugal

ThatGothBBW

Oh man! I can not say enough positive things about this fragrance!!

A little goes a very long way! Two sprays and you are good for hooooours! Put it on your clothes, and you'll smell it for days!

This fragrance is an absolute powerhouse! It's a beast mode fragrance!

This fragrance, it's just purely liquid gold! It's deep, rich, dark,
sweet, sexy, rich, yummy, mouth watering, luscious, magical, enticing, seductive, oozing with deliciousness and more!

Imagine you're eating the most gourmand dessert at a bougie restaurant. Every part of your nose and mouth is being ignited with the most delecious ingredients known to man. All wrapped up into one. It's the most intense, rich and dark dessert you've ever had in your life. Your sweet tooth has never had something so incredible, and so indulgent untill this very moment! That is this fragrance in a bottle!!

It smells of honey, amber, jasmine, insence, cashmere, black vanilla, etc. It has a slight medicinal quality but it's seriously soooooo good. It's just that balance that it needs.

This fragrance is an absolute masterpiece. It breaks my heart knowing that this will be forever discontinued. It makes my heart ache. This fragrance is a work of art. Bottles of this gem are now 150 to 500 dollars US. Such a shame TOO. If by some miracle ,this fragrance is reproduced, I'm almost 99.9 percent sure that is beauty will be completely reformulated. Since the company is now owned by someone else.
I at least feel blessed that I lived to
see,and expierence something so beautiful.

On a side note. My heart is completely broken knowing that the man behind the fragrance, the fashion, and the revolution for something completely new, has left this earth.

R.I.P to the one,and only,Thierry Mugler.

You will be forever adored, missed, and loved. Thank you for everything. Your ever admiring fan,Shannon.

ScentedPlaza

Dripping hot & golden! Thick, dense & gooey honey + vanilla + jasmine wrapped into cashmere. So sweet, so long lasting. Gold in a bottle.

AlaskanAngel

Alien but sweeter and even more compelling. While original Alien makes me feel like I run the town, Alien Essence Absolue feels like I'm especially attractive because I'm the exotic newcomer in a foreign city. Both confident, composed, classic, and unapologetically sexy. Alien is old friends and Alien Essence Absolue carries the sweetness of discovering the unfamiliar.

Fuegogo

The most amazing and gorgeous perfume. So clever. They need to bring this one back. Thank god I have a bottle for now from EBay.

*loves_shoes*

Deep amber, vanilla, balsamic jasmine. Wasn’t sure I’d like it but it’s stunning.
One spray on my arm has fragranced me and the whole room. It’s so strong and The projection is amazing. It does have a hint of that ‘traditional’ perfume smell, it reminds me of a ‘power’ fragrance from the 80s, but I don’t mind that. Shame I can’t find a full bottle for a reasonable price in the UK.

Controlledbyscent31

If you need a scent that's very similar and I can't belive it's not mentioned here Grand Soir from Maison Francis Kurkdijan is SO similar in the middle & dry down.

halex

If you’re looking for a dupe, try Scarlet Letter from Julianna’s Perfume. $69 for extrait de parfum, and Mila LeBlanc on YouTube recommended it, as well! She’s a Mugler lover so I trust her opinion when she says it’s the best dupe she’s smelled. I just wanted everyone on here who loves the original to know this option exists. And you can always get a coupon code for 10-15% off, just Google it.

Beccimay

Just wondering if anyone in Aus is willing to sell me an empty bottle, tia :)

VictoriaSmells

Whoa whoa whoa...
Is no one going to talk about that menthol opening? Am I imagining things?
I know this has been discontinued for a while- I purchased a decant and have no way of knowing how the seller stored their fragrances- maybe the top notes change over time as they age?

But anyway, I got an opening that smelled like the top notes of Aura. It was like a minty, sassafrass-y, vaguely anise opening. I was just very surprised and confused because I can't seem to find anything that would indicate those sorts of notes.
The heady jasmine and warm ambers really didn't come through for me, at least not in the 'savory' way that I interpret them from original Alien. For the first hour or so, it was only what I could describe as "cold spicy." There were fleeting moments where I could have sworn I was wearing bug spray.

This would have been an immediate scrubber if I didn't already learn the lesson of patience from Aura.
Just because something starts minty doesn't mean it will remain that way.

And sure enough, though it took HOURS, I did eventually get to that intoxicating & beautiful dry down that better correlates with the other reviews I've read. Vanilla, but not gourmand. Cozy, soft, woody, warm.
Maybe 15% of that Alien DNA in the back of my nose.

But to be perfectly honest, if nobody told me- I would never guess that this is a relative of Alien.
This fragrance does it's own thing, with the slightest nod towards Alien in the drydown.

I like it, I'm glad I got to experience such a loved fragrance. But I can't say it's my favorite Mugler creation.

Deppaholic

Gosh, I have a bottle of this, and it's probably the older version. Not sure when re-formed. I will edit with update for anybody who is interested. I can remember it being just a tad too strong on me. It was good, but just too demanding. I'll edit when I locate it. I know what it is like to have your favorite gutted to discontinued.

RachelSeun

My favourite flanker from the House of Mugler - I have already written a review expressing my love for this fragrance but after hearing about Mugler's passing, I just want to appreciate Mugler and his team's creativity all over again. I will forever cherish Alien Essence Absolue as this was a flanker created before Mugler was sold to L'oreal - such an incredible fragrance that sticks to the incredible DNA of the original but with that added sweetness and warmth. RIP Thierry Mugler.

aissata

Please if anyone had this and is selling this let me know I can’t find it anywhere

takema

The original Alien is one of my favourite fragrances and I might love this version just a little bit more. They are pretty similar. The same jasmine and amber in both, but while the original has a strong woody quality this one does not. Essence Absolue is instead, smoother, richer and boozier. I find it also has a bit more sweetness than the original Alien.

Because of how difficult this is to get now, I have been saving this as one of my "special occassion" fragrances, but I will still randomly wear it at least a couple times in the fall/winter. I have a 30ml and a 60ml back up, so really I can wear it a little more often. I find it works best in fall and winter. It has that cozy, warm feel that I crave in the cooler weather. It is sexy, like the original, so it is a perfect scent for a night out with a special someone.

The performance is excellent. It doesn't have the room filling, massive trail that the original Alien has. But it does last all day (10-12 hours) and projects at least a couple feet more than half that time.
I purchased mine when it was still available retail, but towards the end of it's run. It had a fair bit of hype even then and I felt it exceeded that hype for me. But I wouldn't pay some of the crazy prices that are being asked for it now. It is so disappointing that it has been discontinued.

KingJay

I haven't been on this website since 2018. I bought this perfume after watching Carlos on youtube review it and he compared it to a high end men fragrance. I bought the 30ml dirt cheap in 2018 and now I see it has gone up in price. This is all about the Jasmine wrapped in vanilla, amber, myrrh and incense. Very good smelling and worth the price.

SanjuktaB

Alien essence absolu has reached the level of an iconic perfume and deservedly so. Weirdly enough, who would have thought that so many like me would love this medicinal jasmine vanilla combo 🤔 This is a keeper for me but many people are profiting by reselling it.It is like a valuable stock right now and if you had invested in this, then well done. Truly speaking, I feel that everyone deserves to know and have this perfume and it should come back into production.

Blackmoonlilith

I recently rediscovered this perfume. I used to wear it some years ago when it came out but then I didn't finish the bottle. So now I started wearing it again and it's so fabulous! It's warm, creamy, round, feminine and I keep sniffing to my wrist. Somehow I find that the composition is an 80s style perfume. And it actually reminds me of Lou Lou by Cacharel, even though it's different, there's some similarity... Though Alien Essence Absolutely is more elegant and grown-up. I'm happy that I still have a half bottle left. I don't understand why it was discontinued.

WGG

Jasmine, boozy amber, but so smooth with it. My wife has this, a traffic stopping, compliment getting, beast mode aphrodisiac, gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous perfume. Ladies, one spray of this and you have acquired a very sexy superpower. Another one of these highly rated fragrances on Fragrantica which is discontinued but no-one can explain why.
5/5

jessr777

Buttery, sweet, booze-y. It’s like drinking a hot buttered rum in a club while someone smokes a cigar nearby. It’s kind of pinch-y in nose up close but has a wonderful, enticing sillage. Shame they discontinued this one.

mayberry

This actually smells similar to Kilian Back to Black.

Red75

This is such a favourite of mine, I am so very sad that it has been discontinued.
I have tried alternatives, I take the point below about not promoting dupes, - but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.
The FM 359 is a good dupe,- when I have them side by side the Mugler is richer and more buttery, and lasts longer.
But on its own the FM does smell to me very close to the original. It lasts a good 6 to 7 hours too. I’m going to use it on weekdays to eke out my precious essence absolue a little longer 🥲

Shepherd Metal

oh my.
oh my sweet lord in heaven.
why u make elixir like this.
is an angel smiling.
Powder puff explosion of vanilla sky.
Is jasmine cookie and I'm hungry.

I walk into gas station I smell like God.
clerk almost faint, ask me for help... I say no, die to the glory of my scent.

Thierry Mugler, I am your muse. You make juice for me and me alone.

I love you

GoldIris

RIP to one of the most beautiful fragrances, thanx L'Oréal.

ozlemmenguloglu

sillage is very good. longevity is wonderful:)

Cherry Bloom

ok, this one lasts and lasts and lasts. I used it on a sweater and 2 weeks after it was still smelling. It is a very warm alien from the strong amber but it has that screechy jasmine from the og Alien with even more screechy myrrh. I was so happy to put my hands on a bottle but, in the end, I decided to give it away. It's too good of a fragrance to keep it in my drawer just in case I ever decide I will love it. Definitely, someone else will be extremely happy to have it. Very good quality but not so much for me, though.

Zethre

Vanillin, something clean, something woody, but overall smells cheap and modern and generic to my nose

kiahmcgowan

I've found a great dupe for this by Federico Mahora, smells exactly like described in the notes: The original Alien with woodsy, sweet notes that dries down to a cashmere vanilla with the slightest hint of jasmine. I love it!

Aysha14/17

Anyone know any good dupes of this fragrance? I don’t want to get an overpriced bottle from eBay and would prefer getting a dupe.

Enigmatic

Mugler, shame on you for discontinuing this. Alien Essence Absolue... I judged you too fast. When I first cracked open an original formulation bottle, it smelled like dough. Playdoh for adults, to be exact. I tried to use up my bottle as fast as possible. Well towards the end of the bottle, something magical happened. The playdoh note went away and in came this beautiful rum-like accord backed by a clear myrrh. The liquid definitely oxidized and changed for the better. I thought I was going crazy, so I bought another original formulation bottle. Same dough smell, same maceration by a few months' time. This is my new winter LOVE! I bought two backup bottles!

Notes according to my nose (in order of prominence): rum-like myrrh, vanilla, faint incense and orris

Princess28

Beautiful scent, elegant, long-lasting, just enough sweetness but not too much. Very Sophisticated yet can be worn everyday in my humble opinion. AEA smells like the original Alien, but smoother and more buttery. Alien and AEA are different enough that it won’t hurt to have both if you love the original Alien. I prefer AEA over the original personally.

soumayaela

To my nose it smells exactly like Alien but less "fresh" and smoky, and more sweet (not gourmand) and rounded with a touch of vanilla in the drydown

I'm kind of disappointed... don't know what to think about it yet...

I don't wanna judge it quickly, i will wear it for a week and see what i think about it... but for now i don't think you need both Alien and Alien essence absolue they kind of smell the same...

After reading all the good reviews and hearing youtubers raving about it, i was hoping for more

Edit: the drydown is absolutely divine
And the longevity/sillage are impressive (on clothes) it projected for hours non stop, everytime i moved i smelled this delicious vanilla amber scent
Mmmm... now i get it! What a sexy one
I guess the first spray surprised me and left me sceptical! It smelled exactly like Alien edp and i payed a lot of money for essence absolue 🤣 but if fades away quickly and the drydown is to die for

Losaz

Has to be one of the most sensual perfumes out there.
Such a shame that it got discontinued.

csunny

I just got this one today and I was not sure what to expect but I LOVE it. I definitely get the Alien DNA but it is more creamy and heavy on the vanilla.
On first sniff I was reminded of like a cherry vanilla cola. The vanilla is a bit play-dohy but I LOVE it. I know I should let the bottle "calm down" after transit so I will wait a week and test it again.
Shout out to the person posting about this being available on fragrancebuy. Oh and the bottle is absolutely adorable!

Sltiffany

Fragrancebuy.ca has this today! Just listed : ) 1 oz and 2oz bottles. Us dollars around $72 and $96.!!

Cali Brating

Mmm my little magical gem!
Not the least bit over hyped IMO.
But! One of the few of my perfumes which I have learnt to respect...Ney fear!
(...Spring came early a couple of years ago. I was on the bus, and it was on me...ROARing!)

xmikax

Just got my sample of this in the mail. Sprayed during hot and humid weather within my air conditioned apartment. This smells like Alien (of course), but more amber-dominated. It’s a rich, deep amber with that unique Alien jasmine undertone. My boyfriend likes it, and he can be pretty picky sometimes. I like it a lot. It’s unique and mysterious and lavish— which, usually, I’m not drawn to those types of scents. If you like Alien, you’ll like this. It’s a less sharp and more deep version of Alien.

singlehandedbeauty

WOW! Honey mentholated throat candies with a big dose of resinous vanilla and that signature Alien jasmine. It's so opulent and rich. I was worried that Alien Essence Absolue would be way too much for me in the initial opening. The myrrh note mixed with that Alien jasmine is so intense that I even experience a cooling sensation in my nose and throat. I should recoil, but I am captivated and repeatedly sniff my wrists. The intense opening lasts for about 45 minutes and the dry down reveals its cashmere wood heart, while the amber and vanilla emerge in perfect harmony. I get it. This is a masterpiece. It's warm, rich, and cold all at once.

The quality and performance are incredible. I'm headache-prone and sensitive to orris root and I have zero issues with this fragrance. It should be worn with confidence by anyone of any gender. Exudes wealth, power, and sexiness and is not for the faint of heart.

Delicious! Just Delicious!

jojox0x0

This is such a scent! At first, this smells exactly like Alien to me. Then as it dries down, I get more of the warm vanillary scent that had a kick to it. Ut smells exactly like original alien + JM myrrh and tonka. I love it! and I can't believe that they are discontinuing this!

Mysterieee

This is my signature scent, of which I have 5 ml left in the bottle, and only half a refill bottle left. Probably enough to fill this gem with the liquid amber one last time. When I found out it got discontinued, it made me want to rage quit perfume. As of now, I am still searching for "the one" (not D&G) to replace this wonderful fragrance. Are there no bottles left? There are. Am I willing to pay over € 200,- to some f*ckwit trying to make money out of my misery? F*cking contemplating it! Why?

Because this baby is the embodiment of a woman that is shy, loud, sweet, loving, cold and harsh. In no particular order. This can be a blanket of warmth, love and comfort, through the amber and cashmere. Yet demaning of respect and equality with its presence through the calming, boss bitch vibe of jasmine and myrrh. All the while never letting go of the enchanting and mythical body of incense with vanilla. It's a mood. All the moods. In a perfect curvy bottle.

Darn you, Mugler! :(

NolaJen10

My absolute favorite fragrance of all time! Why have they discontinued it? I am so sick of everything I love getting reformulated or discontinued.... Does anyone know where to buy legit bottles in the US?
Please help!

MissAnnette

I’m guarding my last 5ml decant. Please PM if you know where I can purchase this in Saudi Arabia. I’m afraid of buying fakes online.

wasifrezawr

A beautiful and unique take on vanilla and amber that has a soft and velvety suede leathery undertone structuring the whole fragrance. A 10/10 in my book!

Eau de Hanneli

Wearing this today and just re-sprayed... The opening is like a jasmine slap to the senses that almost knocks you over, making me question my choices.. Once the stars floating around your head begin to dissipate, the magic happens.. Orris root brings you a warm compress and cashmere wraps around you, while you venture on a magic carpet ride.

Chellywellie

Now this was a blind buy I was nervous about, mainly because of the incense note. I looked up so many Fragrantica profiles and most of you lovely lot have totally different tastes in fragrances to mine which also made me nervous, despite the glowing reviews. I needn’t have worried, and I’m sooo glad I managed to pick up a new bottle of this. I’ve only smelt it a couple of times (I’ve given it to my other half to hide until our anniversary) but it’s so intriguing - I definitely get a sort of menthol from the top notes, but not herbal sweets, more amaretti vibes. The dry down is Alien with added vanilla. It’s close enough to work for Alien lovers but so different - enough to justify owning both. Even my husband said “this is a date night perfume... a special one”. It lasts forever too. Yummy :)

Cherrycardinal

This is alien fully realized. Definitely my favorite of the line if not my favorite perfume overall. Adding myrrh and caramel-vanilla to original alien really completes its profile, and the dry orris gives it this magic "sands of time" feel paired with the incense. I also get the impressions of funnel cake, juniper berries, and jammy balsam fir. Too bad it's discontinued but I love the recent oud and musc flankers, hopefully mugler will still make some good incense scents like these

kristenboris1997

Must love amber! This to me is amber with a hint of other notes. Don't get me wrong, I like amber but I could probably find pure amber oil on Ebay. It is a very nice, warm scent but I don't like the jasmine note, that makes a little weird note in it. Overall though, its lovely and strong! Phew, strong enough anyway. I've decided I don't like jasmine notes though but I'm not complaining about this perfume, just that its helped me decide that I think jasmine is not a note I want in perfume (cf Ceylone by Xerjoff - oud and jasmine - poo!). Sweet, ambery goodness, that is Alien Essence Absolue.

Edit: Gorgeous later, I can still smell amber but I also get incense, vanilla, bezoin. Amazing. Smell you later.......

Spiros_cypriot

i bought a 30ml bottle on ebay to see what the fuss was all about and i have to say you girls are right. this is amazing. the vanilla and jasmine fit so well together but i have a problem.. my mother wants to take it away from me for herself! why do they always discontinue the best scents is beyond me..

lzak

Amber and musk deliciousness on top of Alien. Was late to the game, since recently got into fragrances in the last year. My pandemic aromatherapy. Anyway, had to scour the Internet to tack down some pre reformulated Alien and this Alien Absolute and I lucked out, but had to fork out more money than before, but this is what happens when you fall in love, a bit too late.

NoirDesir

This is the best between Oud and Musk. The one that is the sweetest and most sensual from all these flankers. Received tons of compliments while wearing it. Perfectly balanced. I love it.

Kitkat21

This is the best alien. Alien is more cologne fresh but sexy and deep whereas absolut is this toned down with brown sugar. So smooth sexy and deeply sweet.

tempbee123

Yup. I paid the outrageous price on ebay to get a 1 ounce bottle of this beauty. All I smell is warm vanilla-- but vanilla like a bottle of vanilla extract, not like a sugar-y vanilla. The smell of it lingered on my clothes over 24 hours from when I first applied it just on my wrists. The scent stays close to my body but is absolutely amazing. I am so sad that this perfume was discontinued (What were they thinking!?) and hope someone makes a really good dupe.

sandravanyl80

I really want to need this perfume again and again. I am aware that it has been discontinued and it is totally UNCOMPREHENSIBLE for me... Literally...
This perfume is very feminine, long lasting, intense yet striking, a compliment giver for dayzzz!!
I really hope and hoping very hard over here that it will be brought back!!
Any ideas of another perfume with similar notes than Alien Essence???

Pachida

I haven't smelled any other Alien fragrances yet, but I found this discontinued one unopened for $40 USD, so I snagged it immediately. I'm SOOO glad I did! It's so beautifully sweet, creamy and amazing on me. I love the wafts of it I got throughout the day, and when I smelled my wrists the scent was lovely as well. I'm pretty new to perfume, and am, therefore I horrible reviewer, but I will say that I didn't get any indolic whiffs unless I put my wrist to my nose and HUFFED it for all I was worth. Then I smelled dirt and mothballs. So some people may get that more noticeably. If you want a better description of top notes and dry down and whatnot, keep scrolling. Anyway, I love it, and I will be stockpiling before it's all gone from the world.

MissAleksandra

I absolutely love this Alien flanker! Love love love. Warmer, sweeter, big on vanilla version of the original EDP. It is super long lasting and powerful. Probably most suitable for a winter time. As an Alien lover - this is my definite top two of all the Aliens out there.

lyka

SELLING A 60ML MUGLER ALIEN ESSENCE ABSOLUE!

Background, I’m not a big fan of alien. I was never into the whole Jasmine bomb scent but joined the hyped for Alien Essence Absolue because it had vanilla. I loveeeee vanilla, however this reminded me too much of the original alien. I only sprayed once and was thrown off by the Jasmine. 99% full, 60ml and ONLY shipping in Canada. No international, sorry. Message me for more info! Located in Toronto

I will start by saying, I am late to the game and not a fan of the original Alien. Why did I blind buy this then you may ask...because my curiosity got the best of me. Hype strikes once again. To be fair, its quite nice. I smell alien in the background ( it smells like grape soda with jasmine to me) but I also get a massive hit of resinous myrrh and incense which immediately takes this out of gourmand territory for me. No amount of vanilla in the world will turn such medicinal notes into something edible. I also got a momentary whiff of baby powder (the orris), but that faded in an instant. Mind you this is one spray and within 20 minutes. As it dries down, the Alien steps up and the resins subside. The amber warms up and the sweetness starts to push the vanilla forward with a creamy undertone, giving me JPG classic vibes only sweeter and without the citrus. I will update later with longevity, but for my first round with this frag I have to say....not bad.
Edit #1- I sprayed this on pulse points and one spray on my shirt before leaving the house 7 hours ago- what a beast! I am catching beautiful whiffs of sweet vanilla, jasmin and amber backed by the light resinous quality that reminds me strongly of the cardamom in Commodity Platimun. (the Orris root and myrrh combined to achieve this quality) Its softer and more heady though (cashmeran). Really enjoying this one- beginning to see the hype.
Final edit- 12+ hours in and I still have the pleasant sweetness on my skin. It no longer projects, but my shirt will probably smell like it till I wash it. I am definitely impressed and feel like I spent my money well.

Olotitan

@Sunny68 I read your question my answer yes the cap is plastic and if you bought a refill perhaps its not the reformulated version so you're good! Keep the bottle as those are hard to find lol. And if it smells like the decant you good, it might be aged a bit and heat makes fragrances lose its essence.

Hope I helped good luck!

Managed to buy it in the U.K. mega over priced of course. 30ml £50.. lol oh well. If I don’t like it I can try and be like those people on eBay who sell it for twice that 🤣🤣

Okay so, this is super reminiscent and similar to original alien, which I wasn’t a massive fan of. However, this is actually nice. It’s definitely polarising and jasmine heavy, the vanilla is slight in the background. This definitely isn’t very sweet or gourmand, i want to add as well.. that this has a medicinal quality to it.. I’m not sure what that is. I also do get the slight incense vibe. Do NOT spray this on white or light clothing! 🤣 the juice is the darkest out of my whole collection and really stains. Seems like it’ll be a beast in performance, I’ll need to keep testing as it isn’t a love at first sniff.

I keep having the impression I’ve got something like this in my collection but I prefer the other thing, then for the first time ever - I saw the resemblance between alien and the only one intense. TOI is the less polarising, creamier, sweeter version of alien originals and alien essence absolue! I’ve decided this isn’t for me, the bottle is stunning but the juice colour doesn’t represent the smell at all, this is super similar to original. I’ve put it on a U.K. bidding on eBay if anyone is interested

BOMBS away for this little potent alien.

Like a deeper, sweeter and more warm and serious big sister to the original Alien.

Longevity and silage are both monstreous. When I spray it in the air I can taste it...
Wear this sparringly if you dont want to knockout the people around you.
Strong Jasmine ,heavy vanilla and creamy cashmeran on an amber base.

This is one of the powerfull scents in my collection. A very little goes a long way.
But this is totally and utterly love. I have two bottles, I expect them to last with me forever.

anoifho

I have a NEW UNOPENED 60ml bottle! DM me if you're interested!

Niais

The most sexy scent I've ever used. Adore it. Don't overdose, the perfume is really strong and long-lasting.
I spray it on knees, the scent becomes more soft and delicate.

Got it stored, but maybe too many bottles. Contact me if you are interested, I'm ready to exchange... Or keep it for myself... Golden Alien, you are My precious!

AlexandraTroush

This is a mass weapon and afrodisiac in one.

About a year ago I "overdosed" on Essence Absolue, started noticing those pesky medicinal notes some commenters here were talking about and couldn't bring myself to using it since, I was too afraid of starting to dislike this beauty.

A year later, I'm drowning in exams and stress. It's another late night for me, I have a mountain of things to do. My husband is long asleep. I eventually shower and wear my pajamas, thinking about what perfume I can spritz on myself for tonight's sleep. Looking through my collection I spot Essence Absolue and reach for it, hesitating. I decide now is the time to check if It's safe for me to wear again. A tiny spritz and oh GOD, I'm in heaven! Barely crawled to the bed because my knees were so weak! This isn't tasty sweet, this is seductive and dangerous. I don't know about the other ladies here, but if a man wore it he'd be able to get ANY secret out of me. Oh man, this scent is so damn sensual. It's making my eyes roll back and hardly refrain from waking up the sleeping man laying beside me (who wakes up very early for work). But wait, isn't it Valentine's? Maybe some midnight romance is alright after all! ;)

Be very, VERY careful with dosage here. Too much and you'll get those medicinal notes. This is supposed to be sprayed sparingly in my opinion.

hanFraghead

If I have to keep one fragrance for life, it would be Alien Essence Absolue. It's unfortunate that I discovered this gem after it has been disconnected and couldn't get a backup for it :(

sakura28

In a nutshell, warm vanilla opening + the original alien.
Strong, dark, sensual, sexy.
This perfume keeps me interested.

Whenever I use this it plays on my skin differently depending on the weather/mood. Sometimes I swear it smells more sweet and vanillary, and sometimes I seems like it smells mostly medicinal and slight incense, but overall with the DNA of the original.

Everything combined is *chefs kiss*

I'm not normally into medicinal/incense vibes but this makes it unique and honestly at first I was not into those notes and now I love it.

I'm so so sad this is discontinued. I was late to the game, and had to overpay for the ones people are reselling online. If only I discovered mugler 2-3 years ago !

Note: I have the original Thierry Mugler darker formula. It's dark don't use on light clothes. Not sure about how dark the newer mugler formula is.

If you don't like the original alien (heavy jasmine), not to too sure you'll like this. But if u love vanilla/medicinal notes and think the original is alright but doesn't wow you, you might enjoy this.

I hope mugler comes out with another darker alien flanker soon.. they've only been coming out with bright clean flankers, which I do love, but I need some more dark rich juice from mugler in my life!

*Update* purchase a mugler formula, with lighter juice. Smells the same but only difference I think is it is not as long lasting as the prior darker formula imo. Not as medicinal/Incense.
*Update* jo malone myrrh and tonka reminds me strongly of the vanilla and myrrh in this, like a piece of the EA puzzle. I highly recommend layering it with the og alien of you can't get this.

dark_star_sparkle

Just received a couple of days ago and at first spray, I didn't like it because I thought it smelled medicinal but afterwards, it blossomed into a creamy vanilla white floral. It truly is a delicious fragrance.
The longevity lasts all day and I can even smell it in my hair the next day.

mimiward

Anyone know where I can find this at a good price? I've looked and looked but can't find anywhere. I'm in the U.S.

AurelieGeuz

This is a very good Alien flanker! It’s warm, smooth, smokey and sexy. This smells like a dark Amber, vanilla fragrance with the Alien DNA. Too bad it’s discontinued but I am happy I was able to get my hands on this fragrance.

Sheylor.Oliver

I saw this fragrance on Mercari for a decent deal and I impulsively blind bought it. I can honestly say that I regret buying this fragrance because now I know of it’s beauty!!! (And it’s becoming more and more difficult to find).

Alien original to me, is what I wear to work because it makes me feel classy, intelligent, and focused. I’d wear it to a job interview. Alien Essence Absolute is the original’s DNA with added depth and sexiness. Essence Absolute would be what the boss babe that’s interviewing you is probably wearing.

Michichi

This is a gorgeous scent. Very much like alien but somewhat warmer, creamier and deeper..
I was expecting it to be slightly sweeter (this has quite a strong talc powder like scent, very mature sexy). I prefer sweeter younger scents and don't reach for it often and therefore I am selling my bottle (Italy but could ship to europe). Message me if interested!

Koosh

Good for winters . heavier ,darker sweeter version of the original alien
. Also on. A v sweeter side.
I guess this is a v nice sweet frgrance yet dark if anyone is looking for sweet frgrance
Way better than viva LA juicy gold Coture that is crappy
This is a sophisticare classy sweet amber dominated smell

epettitt

I'm a vanilla and amber lover - this smells like notes of licorice, baby powder, and Dr. Pepper on me.

kat716

This is a masterpiece. A sexy and a cosy scent at the same time.. It gives a warm feeling when you wear it. Unfortunately is discontinued. If you find a bottle for a good price, buy it! Also its a compliment getter..

AyseTumlu

So so sad this got discontinued.

pennny

This perfume in my opinion is for ❄⛄winter.. It can warm u with the amber and bring a cozy sensuous atmosphere it's not a relaxing perfume. My man told me when he smell it: I think a woman in a black dress would wear it......

SailorV

This is the perfect Alien flanker. Even as a vanilla lover like me, one could think that adding an extra dose of vanilla to Alien would take away from its personality and make it a nondescript floral gourmand, but no. That doesn't happen here. It only elevates the fragrance to a new level. No idea how they did it, but I love it, it's more than the sum of its part.

Essence Absolue is soft and strong at the same time. In the opening it's quite similar to Alien and even more mentholated feeling, but over the time, it warms up so much. Myrrh and creamy vanilla take over the fragrance, and when it has fully dried down it becomes something completely different, but still with a touch of otherworldly alienesque jasmine. At the end of the day I even get powdery and caramelized facets.
Where Alien is neon-bright, cool and edgy, this is golden and round. Quite fitting for the bottles, really.

When this was widely available I didn't buy it because I already have and love Alien Liqueur de Parfum, another warm and intense Alien flanker. But then Essence Absolue got discontinued, the fear of missing out made me buy it, and now I love this one even more. I also find it more versatile, both the original and the Liqueur feel like fragrances for going out, something I will hardly do this winter. Essence Absolue on the other hand is the coziest Alien ever and warms me on cold days, but also has the lightest layer of coldness so it doesn't feel smothering.

It's also just different enough for people who like Alien, but find it too harsh or don't want to wear it due to someone/everyone else wearing it. If you're like that and enjoy vanillic scents, definitely try to find this one.

Warmthandlight

So, I am not a fan of Alien but after reading/watching all of the reviews on here and YouTube about how distinct it is from Alien, I figured I’d get a decant to try it. While it definitely is distinct in some ways, this is still Alien through and through (loud jasmine), so keep that in mind and test it first! And while I’d love to smell this on someone else, the incense is really strong on my skin and ends up taking over all of the sexy vanilla/amber notes others mention.

CRiche

Found a miniature in a Thierry Mugler gift set. This and my Alien Oud Majesteux are my favorites but to be honest they all have the same DNA and it’s heavenly and bold.

Paphio

Ventured into Alien territory with trepidation when I managed to find a bottle of Essence Absolue still sporting the Thierry Mugler logo. Opening is medicinal amber with faint menthol that I can taste in my mouth. Thankfully these subside after 15min or so and the fragrance morphs into a warm baby powder with gardenia lurking underneath. Yes, surprise, life-like gardenia still on the plant, a little bit green, spicy and indolic, (not the type found in Gucci Bloom etc.). Nothing sambac jasmine about it. Essence Absolue is a warm skin scent, nothing loud, very much gone within 2hrs, have to put my nose against my skin to smell it. Guess my experience is rather unusual.

Scentflower

Well I did it! I finally got my hands on a bottle of this. I actually bought two. This is definitely what I wish Alien perfume was. I'm so sad its discontinued. It has a hint of Alien perfume, which I wasn't a huge fan of. It's beautifully mixed with amber and vanilla. Its gorgeous! I could see how it could be a little overwhelming if over sprayed. I think three sprays would be absolutely the max. If you can get your hands on a bottle do it.

Edit: only negative of this gorgeous perfume, doesn't last as long as I hoped. 5hr mark it was a skin scent.

fullbottleworthy

Never thought this would be an essential in my collection, yet here we are. This perfume has captivated me and catapulted itself to my top 10. I confess I do not normally gravitate towards floral scents, instead preferring rich, woodsy and/or gourmand orientals with very few florals, if any. However the amped up vanilla in this makes it a warm little sensual slice of "gourmiental" heaven that I simply cannot be without. I find myself craving this scent, and when I am wearing it, I feel like an incredibly sexy goddess. It is one of those "empowering" scents that you can't stop sniffing when you wear it. The jasmine is tempered by the gorgeous cashmere woods, amber, and massive dose of vanilla which brings the original Alien composition to another dimension. I must lament that the reformulation after the acquisition, albeit still lovely, is a watered-down shadow of its former self. Alas, the perfection of the original composition is never to be again. I am massively lucky to have the means to have acquired two bottles of the original, which I have dutifully compared to a third bottle which is the newer formulation. I will wear and enjoy both, but I cannot honestly and in good faith recommend the newer version if you have the means to acquire the original. However, if you have not tried either, and find yourself in a position to purchase the newer version, I still recommend it highly, as it a lovely composition in itself. I seriously question why Essence Absolue would be discontinued, as I have heard it has, since it has such a massive following. Heaven only knows...

Gail14

This reminds me a lot of Ciara by Revlon. Also, a bit t like Joop for woman.

HJKImagery

I LOVE THIS!!!
So happy i discovered this perfume.
The vanilla note is gorgeous and perfect for those autumn days when the weather is turning.

It is made for autumn with the liquid being gold afterall!

Reminds me of gingerbread, vanilla lattes and just a hint of boozy
I think I like this more then the orginal Alien

Mllemarie

Yum yum yum! Not a fan of the original Alien but this...this is awesome. It still maintains elements of the original but its warm, rounded, and mature. Yes as others have commented it does smell like rootbeer in the beginning but then it dries down to this rich smooth silky vanilla with an incensy vibe. This shines the best in cold weather, particularly when mixed with winter air.

The bottle design of this is absolutely gorgeous. The lines, and how it sits in your hand are a pleasure to see and feel. Definitely a bottle to display.

I only spray perfume on my clothes so I cant comment on longevity on skin. However for my stats are the following:

Longevity: 9/10 (10 hours on clothes. It wont project much for the full 10 but it’s obvious if you smell up close)

Sillage: 6/10 Becomes more of a 1 foot radius scent for me atleast.

Note: I sprayed in this my bathroom and it smelled like Alien Essence absolut for weeks in there.

p.kalamaja

Wow, this is beautiful! I am so sad it’s discontinued. It’s pure jasmine upfront with the coldness of the orris root. It’s strong! It’s rich! It smells so natural and luscious the bees are chasing me they think I’m a flower!

Swedelish

Alien Essence Absolue is such an improvement on the original. I like the original sometimes, but it IS a synthetic beast and not something I want to smell everyday. I could inhale Essence Absolu all day, which now that I think it "out loud" sounds like a terrible idea. Not only for health reasons, also for the fact I only have a little under 2 oz left of the stuff and I don't want to run out. But it's true. This is one highly hyped fragrance I can agree with.

It is a fantastic vanilla Jasmine fragrance but so much more. The richest, smoothest most balsamic Alien of the bunch. The slightly medicinal edge makes it addicting. Cashmere woods and vanilla gives me the impression of pie crust beneath layers of a perfectly sweet, floral heart.

There have been rumblings on YouTube that it isn't actually discontinued, just reformulated and repackaged as "Mugler" by L'Oreal. I've seen nothing to back this up as it is still unavailable on the website and second hand prices reflect that. I hope they're right and this is just some weird in between phase before Mugler re-releases it. Sadly, I don't think that is the case.

Dryasiulia

I own a lot of glorious fragrances, but there’s just something about this one... It was already discontinued when I bought it but still easily available in 1oz bottles.

The projection is small for me... real talk I think I might go a little nose blind...which isn’t helped by the fact I basically paint myself in it...but sweet Jesus the little whiffs I get of it when I wear this. It’s like the sexiest jasmine amber but somehow still sweet and gentle~

vluvsperf

I have smelled the original Alien. I do not like it, it gives goth, weird chick vibes. But I blind bought this one when i was on a trip and mannn! THIS is sexy. I sprayed my arm with it once, it literally coated my arm with the most amazing vanilla fragrance for hours. Simply irresistible i wanted to nibble at my arm.

Can anyone suggest a more sexier fragrance because this tops it in my book. Honest opinion

Supermonipower

This has to be my favorite fragrance out of all the Mugler collection. I absolutely love this!! It is even better than the original alien edp, since I have the reformulated bottle that is so much toned down compared to the one I smelled 7 years ago.

This is a beautiful warm, cozy, rich jasmin with vanilla and amber. I can't wait for the colder days to come so I can wear this!

AMAZING!!

supersaiyan

Animalic and opulent and very, very amber-y. I deleted my original review, which was mostly negative. I think because I'd tested it in the summer, it was overwhelming to me, but it's grown on me since I've tried it again, especially in the colder weather. It opens up with a mentholated jasmine, very indolic and kind of skanky with lots of vanilla. However, the amber really grows as this dries down. It's an ultra smooth mix, no sharp edges jutting out, and I think very feminine in a strong and assertive way.

I like it a lot but it's a bit too smooth for me, so I layer something underneath to add some texture (Lalique Encre Noir, or even Alien Oud Majestueux for a double dose of Alien if you really wanna be from outer space!). Overall, a great addition to my collection.

faith.roth

This is my ultimate signature fragrance, and it has been for 2 years. It ALWAYS elicits compliments, whether it's from men, women, or anyone in between. It's sexy, captivating, and alluring, all while smelling of a mix between the original Alien, a root beer float, cream soda, caramelized vanilla, and amber. I notice the similarities between this fragrance and Hypnotic Poison by Dior mixed with the original Alien EDP. However, I sprayed a mixture of HP with OG Alien on one wrist and Alien Essence Absolue on the other wrist, and I had a few people in my family tell me the differences.
My mother could not tell a difference between them. My father could tell a difference immediately. He said he preferred the wrist that had the Alien Essence Absolue on it.
Personally, I could not tell a difference until it came to the dry down.
The HP mixed with OG Alien is missing the creamy vanilla that Alien Essence Absolue has in the dry down.
There is also a sharpness present in the Hypnotic Poison/OG Alien mixture that the Alien Essence Absolue does not have. This flanker has a roundness and smoothness that you can't quite replicate with other fragrances. It's very warm and inviting.
That is why I currently have 2 of the 1 oz bottles, 3 of the 2 oz bottles, and 1 of the 2 oz refill bottles.
I have been on a quest to find every semi-affordable bottle for the past few weeks to make them mine because I cannot imagine my life without this specific fragrance. Yes, I'm spending every week's entire paycheck on it, but I feel like I have to. It's that special to me. Thierry Mugler has seriously done a disservice to the world for discontinuing this fragrance. I can only hope that he will come to his senses and reintroduce it in the future. It's a true masterpiece in every sense of the word.

$ortabroke

This is Alien with a sweeter, warmer, more inviting character. Since it's so hard to come buy, I'm now trying to find the perfect thick vanilla scent to layer with the original to achieve the same vibe.

etmpewo

It's one of those perfumes you can't say up front whether you're gonna love it or hate it.

I hate Alien, but I love Alien Essence Absolue.
Some have the exact opposite, some hate both.

1 piece of advice: try before you buy!!!

mellyv1973

This is such a gorgeous vanilla, amber and floral mix. It smells so sweet and sexy. The scent is very long-lasting and the sillage is moderate. This is a love for me.

RottigrlNYC

Oh my goodness this one is not for me. Too masculine, too strong, and I hate incense in perfume. I will stick with my beautiful original Alien.

imoore

I am a little bit late to the Alien party, but here I am marching to 50 and in love with this little Alien, which is a good resemblance to a long gone German oriental 80ies beauties like the amber heavy Bogner Women or Joop Le bain.

MnM

I absolutely love this! It's a gorgeous warm rich and sweet amber with a slightly boozy honeyed vanilla, a little incense-y. It's not as strong as the original Alien nor does it smell like it, what it does have is the DNA that all Mugler fragrances share, but that's it and it does not smell like D.A. nor Poeme. We have different noses and chemistry, what doesn't work for some work marvelously with others, so if you're on the fence due to the reviews, I recommend you get a sample, it just may end up being one of your favorite fragrances if not your favorite. Love Love

I own 1 "Thierry Mugler" and 2 of the "Mugler" :) I won't be running out of this anytime soon :)

noura148

My opinion on this version if Alien,
I blind bought it a few days ago.
It’s in my opinion not an intense version of the original, it’s a little watered down and have less sillage and longevity as the Original alien.
It’s definitely sweet and have the same vibe of dior hypnotic poison. But not a food sweet .
You can smell initialy the smell of candy that helps with sour throat mixed with amber. A little milky smell too.
Afterwards you can notice the vanilla. Jasmin is really weak here and not so powerful.

I kind of love it after all and i have to taste it more .

Update: the fragrance is very light and it stays not more than 4 hours on the skin, if you can’t find this, you can get the same effect from the original Alien layered with a vanilla scent.
:)

Austrian_in_Denmark

The reviews for Essence Absolue are so glowing that I blind-bought it. What should I say? This stuff is amazing. I smell almost every ingredient - which is rare for me, since I do not have a super-nose. The single parts play beautifully together and create a strong, long-lasting and super-seductive scent. More for evening than for day wear.

In Essence Absolue, the Alien structure is strong, but
sweeter, warmer and darker than in the original. Like Alien travelling to the Orient of fairy-tales.

I am writing this knowing that I do not have the perfect skin for Essence Absolue. So it must be EVEN better on others. Wow.

Balletflowers

I absolutely hate this, smells identical to the original Alien which I also hate. I don’t get any amber or vanilla, just straight up alien jasmine.

igalmusic

I was hoping for a strong punch, for an cosy, ambery scent, but received a watery fragrance that barely last...I am glad I have only purchased a sample. Better stick to original Alien, this is a waste of money

mevans

This is becoming really hard to find. I was recently able to get my hands on a bottle and a couple of backups of the original, not the L'Oreal version. If you don't know which one you have, look at the name on the box. The original will have the full name Thierry Mugler in script writing. The new versions have just Mugler in caps on the box. This flanker is unmistakably Alien which has been drenched in syrupy, gooey, delicious vanilla. I love sweet scents and vanilla, so naturally I love this one. It's got a little bit of spice and that specific jasmine note that seems unique in Mugler fragrances. Definitely a winter fragrance because it's very heavy and thick.

hollymichaelm

This fragrance was so hyped, I got my hands on a bottle online as it has been discontinued.

It took me one week to get through my first impression, which was very strong, medicinal and confusing. I didn't like it and couldn't make sense of it.

Now this is my favourite fragrance of all time. This polarising first impression is a theme with the Mugler fragrances - this one most of all. It's absolutely gorgeous for the winter. Vanilla dripping gourmand, spicy, with that Alien DNA which I love.

This fragrance is for age 30 plus, I would struggle to pull this off in my twenties. It's not a clubbing fragrance, it's a cozy, seductive scent.

Perfection. I've ordered a refill bottle. What will I do when this is gone forever?

diaanz81

WTH! I can't believe I am about to say this about what is supposedly an iconic fragrance but to me this is vanilla flavored bug spray! I have avoided Alien and it's flankers because it is described as a very strong indolic jasmine centered fragrance and jasmine is a note that I like only when it is delicate. The essence absolue however has been described as the best Alien flanker and the most gourmand with a strong vanilla note in it which made me think that perhaps this would be the one that would make a convert of me. It didn't! It gave me a headache almost instantly but I kept sniffing it hoping that it would change which it did.. it got stronger! I can pick out the jasmine, vanilla, incense, myrrh and amber but the combination of these notes unfortunately is IMO obnoxious. Shame, partly because the bottle and juice looks gorgeous but also because I was hoping to be proved wrong about the Alien line that is so loved.

Bought it blind few days ago and since than wearing it every day to test its behaviour. On me it smells indentical with the classic Alien. In drydown is a bit sweeter than the original but not too much difference. An ordinary sweet frangrance nothing spectacular. Longevity is poor about 3 hours on the skin with absolutely no sillage/projection. A very watered down scent. I don’t know if is the heat that makes it to behave so poorly I will see in the cold temperature if something will change in terms of performance.

I agree with the other reviews that say it resembles
Hypnotic Poison. It's like Alien had a baby with Hypnotic Poison and Alien Essence Absolue was born. It is an Alien, without a doubt, but much more rounded, without that medicinal note from OG, much creamier and warmer. Jasmine is simply divine in this fragrance, it combines excellently with vanilla, giving a feeling of creaminess to the whole composition. Definitely for the cold season, when it's hot it can be stifling. I highly recommend for lovers of vanilla and oriental scents, you will not be disappointed

Edit: After a few wears, this is not long lasting on me. Max 4h and moderate projection. My batch is from 2019. Definetly watered down...

An exceptional example of when Mugler does flankers right! A deeper, sweeter sister to the original pillar Alien, Alien Essence Absolue starts off unusual and somewhat medicinal but the beauty is in the heart and dry down of the fragrance. The original Alien is already so well known for being unique and standout in the world of mainstream designer fragrances and this flanker is no different. The vanilla is blended beautifully here, stopping this fragrance from being a typical sweet mainstream fragrance and show how pleasurable to the nose Alien can be with that perculiar sweetness. Compliment getter for sure and lasts very well on clothing. If you love deep, sensual vanillas or fragrances that stand out enough to create conversation with others, this fragrance is perfect. Why MUGLER would even choose to discontinue this beauty I will never know! Simply stunning!

this one is an odd one for me. I haven't tried any of the previous or later Alien scents, so I'm not sure how this compares.
for my chemistry, I didn't necessarily get that "bakery" scent, but rather a DEEP, Rich musky scent. There was little to NO Vanilla for me *I had to add my own*, but there is a hint of sweetness, but it almost masculine on me, yet not? in the beginning, it smells almost, how you say...elderly...like, it smelled like something my grandmother would wear very often when I was young (cant remember what it was). But later, it softens down a bit. It's almost like a VERY velvety amber with slight woodsy notes.
simply put, it's comforting and cozy, sophisticated yet sexy. perhaps its just my chemistry, which seems to be changing as I age from mid 20's to later 20's. However, I will admit when you layer it with a straight/plain Vanilla perfume, it is QUITE pleasant. Still a bit mature and not quite the gourmand I was promised, but it is very nice. maybe better as a winter scent? maybe I'll like it more in about 5-10 years?
it's very nice, but it is DEF not an everyday perfume to just go out and about. this is a scent that should be reserved for special occasions.

I wasn’t sure whether this was being discontinued or not, but I decided to add this to my Alien EDP order, scared that I might not be able to get this later in the year. At the moment, this fragrance is definitely not something you can wear due to it being quite hot and sticky, well at least in London. I sprayed this on a card and sniffed throughout the opening and dry down. The opening was extremely medicinal, and well, I actually didn’t like it. On my skin, the opening is reminiscent of Dr. Pepper. Although, I wasn’t impressed thus far, I desperately sniffed whilst it dried down to see if my mind could be changed. The good news is that when this juice is dry, it’s a heck of a lot softer and actually reminds me of baked goods. A sweet, buttery pound cake. This is a mouth watering oriental gourmand that deserves a chance. I like how much of the original Alien DNA is present, and can’t wait for the colder days to arrive so that I can take this fragrance out and experience it properly.

This was very hard to find in my area, so I ordered it from abroad a few years back (more than once!), and it became an instant favorite. I find it strange that this was discontinued when they probably could have made it a huge success, if it was more easily available. The original Alien is everwhere in stores, but never saw this one.

I have worn Alien essence absolue lots over the last few years and it is my most complimented fragrance. Especially men seem to like this one alot.

I like the original Alien as well, but to my simple nose this smells more expensive, deep and way sexier! It has similar feel to it as Hypnotic poison, with that dry, spicy vanilla. They are not dupes by any means, but if you like HP and notes of jasmine, you will probably love this, so if you get a chance to get your hands on a bottle, take it!

Projection, longevity and sillage are all great!

With MUGLER you have to give them a chance ,but what I love about them is their first impressions, whether it's good or bad you will have one.

For instance with this one ,could someone tell me what note is causing the burnt rubber smell when you first spray this, as I can't work it out?

An hour later I've let this warm up on me as I know MUGLER is one of the greats and the vanilla is coming through now and it's much nicer now. I get slight vanilla latte and a boozy scent a bit like malibu. but I'm not complaining.

It's intense and I realise that this is because it is a cold weather perfume.
A bit like JPG Scandal . It's the type that can hold their own against cold winds, and make their appearance known to strangers as you walk by them and your scent gets blown over to them by the wind for that split few seconds and they notice and they love it.

Infant I've just tested this out with the cold setting of my hair dryer and I'm right, I blew this scent trial towards me and it was intense but light , like a bakery that has had a lot of cakes in through out the day. Intense yet light syrupy scent.

My 2nd autumn signature scent I reckon.

I just discovered a hidden gem very similar to this sadly discontinued beauty. Check out Ted Lapidus Altamir for Men. Yes, for men I know. I think it has been undiscovered as a dupe for Essence Absolue simply because women don’t wear it! The best part is, it’s readily available and dirt cheap. It has the white florals, the deep rich medicinal amber. If anyone tries it based on my recommendation, I would love it if you sent me a message and let me know what you think!

Way better than the original. So lucky I got my hands on this years ago for like $30. Love it so much i dont use it.

I remember the original Alien so fondly, it reminds me of high school 10 years back. I'll never forget the first time I smelled it, and who the girl was. We weren't friends, but I saw her plenty--in the halls and cafeteria. And then she started wearing Alien. Oh my goodness, my little teenage self couldn't believe it. She would pass by swiftly and leave a trail that was like a magical spell, I don't remember ever reacting to a fragrance so notably. It wasn't long until I bought a bottle for myself. I forget how I figured it out because I never asked her, but anyway, now it was my turn to become an enchanting queen and wear Alien. I probably went through 2-3 bottles which, if you know its potency, is a long time. I never got the hang of its application right. I overdid it, definitely more than 2 sprays which was so suffocating. But I still loved it and my high school boyfriend was always drooling over how I smelled. I got sick of it and gifted the rest of my bottle to my cousin and then she wore it how it should have been worn, ONE spray! And my love affair continued a bit longer until we both ran out of that bottle. With one spray, it was so much better, unbelievably so.

This is so long winded but here I am, 10 years later with my first sample of Alien Essence Absolue. My tastes have changed a lot over the years, but nostalgia has gotten the better of me. To me, they are undeniably similar, I'm sure if I had the original to compare it to, I'd be able to talk about their differences with more precision. But the DNA is so present, so I feel like I am smelling the original. It is definitely warmer though, creamier, smoother and sweeter. I do smell a small hint of burnt rubber, which I read in another review, but its not a problem to me. I will wear this when I feel nostalgic and feel like casting a spell.

Emjokuh

It’s an unmistakable relative of Alien. Like the blonde older cousin who went to a small public Ivy League school. Still unique, a little awkward, but has an enticing demeanor and a sweet, rich heart. My bottle’s juice definitely is darker than these pictures, but it’s the right juice just has darkened a bit. Alien and a little vanilla for the top half then turns to 3/4 the buttery-sweet smell of living on a farm in the summer plus homemade buttery vanilla pound cake, then the other 1/4 Alien.

When I first smelled the dry down, an intoxicating wave of nostalgia overcame me. The scent is so familiar to me from living on a farm with all different animals, this specific scent I felt when around the cows. I know it might not make sense or sound appetizing to many people, but there’s a sweet, buttery (fresh butter, homemade and raw), fresh buttercup scent that I get from this perfume that takes me back to petting our cows and feeding the animals and riding through the field in the middle of a hot day in the summertime.

As always w Muglers, longevity 10 sillage 10 packaging 10 (I have the 1oz stone and the 100mL refill bottle).

I was highly anticipating the arrival of this scent, and the memories it brings back were worth the hype. Maybe not the same novel experience as if it’s the first time I ever smelled anything like it, but overall more approachable than Alien and gorgeous.

I will say, if you really hate Alien you probably won’t like this because the DNA is undeniable.

Erinhasaproblem

I’m not usually a fan of flankers, but this one is outstanding! I’ve always liked the original Alien but find it a little sharp and synthetic. This is just perfect - all of the beautiful DNA of the OG Alien but also smooth and rich and a little boozy too. This would be great for wearing a sweater on a cold night alone or wearing very little in an intimate situation.

So, I will do my best to paint an accurate picture of this fragrance right here. Luxurious. In a word, this fragrance is luxurious. It smells absolutely enticing. This fragrance is a must have! Simple as that. The vanilla in here is so creamy, but it is also dark and smokey, due to the incense. It has the Alien DNA, but with a creamier, deeper kind of twist to it. It gives an impression of mystery, curiosity. Which is what is going to have people following you around if you wear this fragrance. The trail this leaves is absolutely stunning! I have no words! I couldn’t stop smelling myself all. day. long! Which is how long it lasted. It projected fairly well. On my skin, about 6-7 hours, but the longevity was all day! This fragrance really is as good as they say. I feel completely untouchable in this fragrance. Untouchable, and expensive. It is sexy. It is seductive. It is inviting...use this with caution.

nomoremystery

As my bottle's juice gets darker with age I could swear it's getting more delicious. This wears like a heavy blanket of sweet yummy delight with an edge of sophisticated spice. It's a real winner.

soufvb

Smells of vanilla cookies. I loooove. But I still think Alien Oud is a better flanker.

Butterball

You can still buy 30ml bottles of this on Fragrancebuy.ca I've buy it, but I already have a 60ml bottle of this beauty.

Vanillastorm40

What's one more great review? Lol. I just had to come back and write again on this because I am amazed every time I wear it. This is so buttery and Rich. It's almost got a greasy texture when you put it on so be careful with your clothes. It's got a rich, root beer type smell even. The orris root maybe? This is just too good for words.
