This was gifted to me in the 90s in tropical Cairns (Australia). It was just too much... cloying with an annoying bitter note. Perhaps the mimosa turned on me in the humidity I love the smell of wattle trees so - I dunno. I just couldn't do it .. still can't

Initially when I sprayed I thought I got a hit of violet, like those vintage sugary violet candies. The violet immediately disappeared and began morphing into a sweet yellow floral. Then about an hour later, the “violet note” re-emerges and persists for hours. As it dries down in the end stages of this scent, it begins turning a bit more powdery. I think maybe it’s heliotrope or another floral that is tricking me into thinking the perfume has violet in it. Whatever is causing this confusion, it’s the best and my most favorite part of this scent. It’s what makes this unique from the many other perfumes I’ve tried. I couldn’t stop sniffing it. Overall, Volupte isn't as rich or intoxicating of a yellow floral as Poeme, but it's a very lovely lighter fresh floral. Softer, but certainly long lasting. I can smell this on my skin for at least 8 hours, hair and clothing for even longer. My skin eats fragrance too, so it it probably eternal on many others. Volupte doesn't have anything in it that announces it's vintage, no spices, woods or strong musks that stand out - the incense, sandalwood, fruits, etc are soft and well blended so they come off as elements of the flowers. It doesn’t have a “youth dew” type of “kitchen sink” vibe, it’s clean and refined. Doesn’t smell very smoky or spicy like so many vintage scents. It has an ageless/timelessness to it, being focused on the florals. I got a brand new bottle of the EDT for under $15 still sealed and it must be vintage, as theres a little black and white folded insert with the products from this line listed and translated into several languages. Apparently there used to be a parfum and EDT. I have a vintage EDT, I'd guess its from the early 90s as it looks like the type of packaging & printing I remember from that era. Honestly, one of the nicest perfumes for so cheap, and it doesn't even smell cheap or synthetic. A much better option than anything from BBW or celebrity fragrances for people on a budget. Lovely and easy to enjoy. Ageless. I’m happy it’s a unique and wearable vintage addition to my collection that has unique elements that draw me to it.

smells so familiar.... found a 3.4 for a bargain on ebay and i love it so much. smells like my mom taking a bath in the 90s. complicated enough that no scent stands out in particular, although the melon is the one my nose tends to catch the most. the base is so warm and complicated, really rounds this out to the most gorgeous complex floral. truly a perfect floral for cold weather, feels like the scene in beauty and the beast where theyre playing in the snow? i imagine belle smelled like this

brandiwine1980

My sister wore this in the nineties, but I could not remember how it smelled as I was probably 12 and she’s 5 1/2 years older than me. I bought a mini. I love it! Fresh, green, sparkly! I think this is one of my favorite floral fragrances that I’ve bought for awhile. I’m more of an oriental or gourmand girl, but this is nice. I have Boucheron Jaipur, but I prefer this. BJ is more boozy and bold, V is more light and I get more florals and fruits. Their dry downs are very similar though. I will definitely be adding a full bottle of Volupte to my collection! One of my favorite 90’s scents now.

back again just to say that this layered on top of lattafa raghba is surprisingly delicious and harmonious 🍊💐🍯🕯

This perfume transports me back to elementary, christmas shopping with my mom at Hudson's Bay, I was obsessed with the perfume counter and loved to spray Volupte and Tresor with wild abandon. My love for perfume began with these scents. Volupte is not a quiet perfume, nor is it modern. But it's timeless, sophisticated and feminine. The dry down is a creamy, floral full of warmth from the insence and amber.

waxworkdaughter

my mom had a mini of this when I was little and I was obsessed with both the smell and the bottle shape with the green jewel top. I am beyond thrilled to be able to buy the current bottle affordably from a discounter and finally have a big supply of this nostalgic beauty. I think the current formulation is a bit more powdery and less juicy fruity than I remember, or else my adult skin chemistry pulls more to the mimosa-freesia compared with the melon-orange top i remember from my kindergarten days lol. But it's such a soft, creamy, fuzzy Grojsman powder that makes me wonderfully nostalgic (in the 90s my mom wore YSL Paris powder and my grandma wore Tresor). Honestly, there's a lot of depth to this scent despite its sweetness and powder, it's both nostalgic and advanced enough to feel timeless. The ambery warmth and slight spiciness of the drydown along with the sweet powder make for a great cozy autumn/winter scent, especially if you appreciate the complex vintage greats

mirrorghost

i have a mini bottle which i'm fairly sure is vintage. this opens with fruits and florals, kind of like shampoo...melon, watermelon and freesia. it warms up and gets less shampoo-y as time goes on with mimosa, narcissus, ylang ylang, amber and incense. this launched the year i started high school and yet i don't think i have ever tried it though i have wanted to for a long time. after drying down some i see how it smells like tresor, but it's softer and dare i say more wearable? i love tresor actually, but it's strong and a definite mood i have to be in to be able to wear it. this is pretty, and i'm glad i finally got to try it.

I find it strange and a little bit sad that everyone purports to revere Sophia Grojsman, and yet so many of her perfumes get such consistently low scores on Fragrantica. In the case of Volupté, though, I'm not sure how much is a result of people buying weaker or inferior reformulations because they read reviews of the original version, and then became disappointed. Or maybe it's just rank cost-snobbery, and they think the perfume smells cheap because they know what they paid for it. I don't know if this perfume is a shadow of its former self because I never smelled it when it came out (and had never even heard about it before I read Miguel Matos's review from last year), but I'm glad it was inexpensive (I won't say cheap!) enough to add to my collection. To me it's a little sweet to qualify as a green floral, although I can smell the narcissus, carnation, and lily-of-the-valley, all of which have distinct green notes (carnation is a bit spicy, too, which I like). This almost registers to my nose as more of a fruity floral because of all the juicy melon notes in the opening. The heliotrope--which I'm really getting into lately and can't seem to get enough of--imparts a bit of a nutty scent, and the osmanthus (presumably) makes it a little creamy, too. The incense and the patchouli aren't too dominant--at any rate, they are perfectly blended into the vanilla and sandalwood. The tuberose gives it the Juicy Fruit gum aspect that I enjoy, too. I know this is supposedly a summer fragrance, but I like to wear it on a cold November day to remind myself that sunshine exists somewhere.

Bittersweet & Voluptuous Elixir with a Vintage Vibe...
Floral Green scent by Nicholas Calderone & Sophia Grojsman was released the same year as the film, Death Becomes Her (1992), a dark comedy film-noir starring Meryl Streep, Isabella Rossellini, Bruce Willis & Goldie Hawn. This film is something of a reinterpretation of Sunset Boulevard (1950) featuring an aging starlet searching for the promise of eternal youth. Like the small vial of dangerous & magical elixir, wielded by Lisle (played by Isabella Rossellini), this scent has a bittersweet & dangerous quality. In addition to the bittersweet quality, there's a voluptuous quality to this scent, and I could imagine Isabella Rossellini wearing this on set, or the eternal youth elixir smelling like this.

Opens with a burst of fruity-florals including mimosa & melon, and already narcissus & incense are swelling through with bittersweet tones. The effect here in the opening is bittersweet & vintage florals, and I get vague reminders of Jardins de Bagatelle Guerlain. As it transitions to the heart, softer & sweeter florals come through with powdery heliotrope & ylang leading the way. The base has a faintly creamy sweetness from sandalwood & tuberose.

In the same way the film searches for eternal youth, Volupté searches for the glimmer of peachy promise, and the comparisons to Trésor Lancôme are justified with a major caveat: over the Trésor-like base is a layer of sharp & bitter florals combined with incense with a vintage flair. Again, like the film, there's a dark side to what we wish for, but the resulting scent here is complex, darkly nuanced & maturely beautiful. Alternatively, my one complaint with the film is that in the end it should have been a women who learned from the mistakes of others to age gracefully.

This has excellent performance for year-round wear, but spray with caution as it could quickly become too much in warmer weather. This isn't for the faint of heart, but it's a love for me. Vintage scent lovers, enjoy!

peachygal

This is what all the girls wore when it was released I have been told! Recently discovered it and it is gorgeous. It smells ‘yellow’ it is sweet, creamy, yellow florals and performs like a beast. It lasts all day & projects. Super feminine too.

pmgt

I used to love spaying it on everything in my childhood, and my first impression never changed. To (and on) me this smells like a strawberry gummy, if there were ultra-luxurious strawberry gummies. Strange how perfumes smell to you when you're a child and don't care about the notes and the families and the complexity and...
I still love it!

alKaori

this one's a giveaway for me. well made, very floral, notes are spot on. i read someplace that it was "violet" even though not in the notes, so for @ $20 i figured i would try it, but no violet to me at all. floral initial blast and drydown is like sweet lifesaver candies.

good value for floral fiends, but not my jam.

bruby15

This is exactly a cheaper version of Calvin Klein's Eternity for Women. And lasts for ever and projects amazingly. 10 out of 10.

cmh9217

This beauty was a favorite of mine when it was released in ‘92. I absolutely adored her.

I had been thinking about revisiting her, and like someone had read my mind, a little mini arrived in the mail as a bonus and a surprise along side another blast from the past frag I bought. I was pretty stoked.

I put a couple of sprays on my wrist, and AHA! Yep, she was just as lovely as ever. However, my first thought was that she was not anywhere near as strong as I had recalled…I thought that this could be do to the age of the bottle, as it is the vintage version. This assessment of mine would change in just a bit, as you will soon see. 🙄

Initially, very candy Violet prominent (which is curious considering Violet is absent in the notes here, but, clearly I’m not alone in this olfactory perception), and while not loud, I definitely could pick up the melon (yes..Midori liquor’ish I’d say) and the mandarin, but they were just dancing around violet, and were just fine in the co-star roles. Mmm…yeah, Ms. Vol and I were getting nicely reacquainted.

But, cut to 10 minutes later, I perceived that an argument broke out between Violet, Midori and Mandarin, and as the minutes progressed, this argument became louder and LOUDER. To the point of FULL ON SCREECHES. I believe Pencil Shavings wandered into the scene unannounced, and decided to get in on the action. A few minutes later, I started getting a bit light headed due to all of this F*ckery. It was at this point, I decided I’d better pack it in (SCRUBBER), than to stick around and wait for the migraine that I was sure would be coming just around the corner.

Looking at all of those FLORALS in the heart, yeah, oops…I’ve learned that an over abundance of them in a frag is just something that I can no longer tolerate in my middle aged years. When I was young, no problem. Now, it is just like asking for a head pounding.

Sorry Ms. Volupté, I did really love you once upon a time, but now that I am older, I just find you too obnoxious.. Sincere apologies …we can no longer be friends.

As a heads up to anyone whose chemistry is similar to mine, in a matter of two minutes this went from pleasant and creamy to heavy and powdery to vegetable peelings in a compost bin. I second what was said by a reviewer below, if melon or osmanthus are iffy on you there’s a good chance you won’t like this, even if, like me, you enjoy mimosa and heliotrope and ylang ylang and incense and amber and you think that will make up for the melon and osmanthus... You might end up smelling those other things, but smelling them as if they’re in a compost bin. I really think I need to test this again (I see all the reviews about how this changes over time) but it takes a certain kind of bravery to knowingly spray yourself with something that made you smell so bad. Maybe I’ll spray it on one of my kids, lol.

Gemsense

This took over a year to settle. I used to only smell strong osmanthus and it was gross, in all seasons. I tried it again today and it's soft, sweet, watery. It is sweet cantaloupe iris. I like it now, it's worth having in my collection. It's in the family of Love Chloe, does not smell like it but in the same vein. I think if you like love Chloe you'll like volupte too.

Midnight Raine

Recommendation: this perfume is a solid win if you're a fan of cantaloupe & watermelon. If those notes tend to give you a headache, perhaps steer clear of this one.

Today I'm wearing two sprays from my new bottle. This is pretty and feminine! The most prominent notes are the melons: juicy sweet cantaloupe & watermelon. Next is a bouquet of well blended florals, sweetened by the melons and a little bit powdery (perhaps from the combination of incense & amber?). Finally I get vanilla in the background.
The powderiness is subtle, keeping the flowers from becoming screechy.

This smell stays linear, softening over time. I get faint whiffs of it the next morning.

Strangely I don't get any sandalwood or patchouli, which are notes I enjoy. Perhaps they will appear later once my bottle has macerated for a bit. However I'm not sad that they seem to be missing: the current blend of melons, florals & powderiness is intoxicating.

Talia

Maybe all those killers from the past would be nice if the spray is one half or less than the todays normal dose. It is killing.

fragmore

Years ago I tried Volupte and didn't like it. Earlier this year there was an open box of it for $19.99, I sprayed it on my mask. At first it was hard to tell if I liked it. However, days later when I put that mask on my face I absolutely loved the scent of the fragrance on it. So, I started looking for Volupte and only now found 4 sealed boxes of it for $15.99. It took me maybe not more than 5 min to decide how many to buy. I grabbed all of them. I will spray Volupte on my hair, bed sheets, clothing and the scent will last longer. But before I will let it stay for several months before even opening the box. It gets better with time.

mhubbard1961

I tried this many years ago before Fragrantica existed. We used to blind buy stuff that was cheap. We had the occasional success, but this was not one. Yellow florals, no. I learned the hard way to try perfumes at home before venturing out. This was a scrubber. I believe I threw it out rather than give away and inflict it on the world

SmoothMoonlight

I bought this as a blind buy because it was meant to be similar to Tresor. I have been trying out perfumes from the 90's that are from my childhood. The opening is bright and reminds me of melon liquer. Then it dries down to a beautiful warm scent reminiscent of Tresor. More of a winter/autumn or early spring scent. Love it and it's very reasonably priced for such a beautiful fragrance. Definitely a keeper.

wjones35

I love this perfume. It’a a Sophia Grosman, so need I say more? Look at her list. Genius! Plus, if this was good enough for Princess Margaret it’s good enough for me. (I aged myself didn’t I? Lol) Fabulous fragrance. If you like SG fragrances you should try this.

jesz

This is how my first smell went: Ooh a green fresh floral ....... (sniff) it's really becoming....(sniff) a 1980's sharp floriental boom-pow, isn't it.....(sniff)......oh my god this drydown is amazing!!!! Soft gentle spices....(sniff) warm musk.....amber..... vanilla...citrus..(sniff)this is SO not green on me! I love this!!!! (huge sniff)

More of a fall/winter scent. I smell like I've been baking spiced cookies all day.

Also, very interesting bottle.

SweetJhane

My chemistry works well with the Oscar de la Renta scents I’ve tried, in addition to Sophia Grojsman being one of the creators of Volupte, so I thought it would be a pretty safe blind buy. Yes it is! It’s even better than I hoped. It really is like a beautiful blend of Esprit d’Oscar and Tresor, even though EdO didn’t exist when Volupte was released. Some of my favorite flower notes - mimosa, heliotrope, freesia, and peony - are discernible, and so is peach, even though it’s not listed. Maybe the melons are coming across to me as peach. They add freshness to the heavy, warm amber, patchouli, sandalwood base. Very light sweet vanilla backs it all up, enhancing but not dominating. I’m not a fan of lily of the valley, lotus, or narcissus as they can be so sharp, but restraint and masterful blending balance this gorgeous composition throughout. The longevity and sillage are excellent. I don’t find Volupte to be dated except in the way that nineties perfumes were strong, long-lasting, and had structure and presence. Other than that, it’s appropriate for anyone of any age who enjoys it. I wear what makes me happy regardless of season or time of day. VERY lightly applied, this can be office-friendly. Volupte is stunning in the hot Southern summer and I am looking forward to fall and winter with it as well. It’s a big love for me - I’m ordering a backup.

rahatski

An initial delicious blast of mimosa, with violets tucked in around the edges of the bouquet. None of whatever it was in Champs Elysees that made me sneeze. The heart is definitely reminiscent of Tresor, but more elegant and dryer IMO. Close to the skin I don’t get much melon from this, just a sweet faintly fruity accord, but there are definitely melon wafts a few inches away.

Dry down seems to be an oddly salty-smoky amber, maybe it’s the incense note but it’s almost marine, much more restrained than I would’ve expected from the exuberant start.

I think it’s only as much like Tresor as one 80s/90s scent is like another: “there were giants in the earth in those days….”

Jexotic

This smells like an extremely clean, soapy bathroom. Not in a bad way. I agree with the Tresor comments, if tresor was in soap form, this would be it.

LaUna

This is a lovely grownup scent with a nostalgic vintage feel. Violets, mimosa and dusty soft powder. Complex floral. Volets and mimosa, yellow florals shine thru. Lasts awhile. Previous reviews mention violets and its not listed, everyone I know that smelled it, said "Violets", so yes, somehow that's the most dominant note here. Rich floral 80's era. Absolutely love it, my mom too. We have to share this perfume. Very well, done, excellent quality. Do not be afraid to test it out and give it a chance. Strong at first, but half a way thru it becomes candied violets. I smell it on my clothes next day. Great choice for winter and spring when violets are coming to life. Luxury scent for a night out :)

SmoothMoonlight

Volupte is a recent acquirement and a blind buy. I bought it the hope that it smelt a lot like Tresor without the price tag. At first I thought the opening smelt like Midori liquer. Phew. Once everything calmed down it opened up as a beautiful warm scent. To me this isn't fresh or heavy. It is rich. A little goes a long way and lasts all day, clinging to clothes and scarves. There are similarities to Tresor but it's not exact. They both stand on their own as lovely scents. It's perfect for our NZ autumn days with cold mornings and warm afternoons. Beautiful scent and good value.

rosebv

Volupte is a nice scent. If you like perfumes like “ Paris YSL” then you will like this also. It is more a casual scent or an office scent or grocery shopping scent. Someone might say you smell fresh. But nothing very heart catching.

Sheree472

this is a beautiful mature scent, very warm and long lasting

Sabrina_A

A beautiful and mature perfume.

ScentedPlaza

Just purchased Volupte (according to the batch code, my bottle has been made in 2021) and I am pleasantly surprised! I am building a collection of scents that have been created around the year I was born. It excites me & has an added sentimental value for me and it's one of my hobbies now. Dreamy, heady, reminiscent of green almonds, powdery peanuts and hazelnuts with green accords in a floral bouquet - Volupte is fresh, bright and positive. This IS cool & modern in my opinion, I would never have guessed it's from the 90' ! Sophia Grojsman has become one of my favorite perfumers, she knows how to create magic!

Sheree472

I read the reviews and I'm so happy I picked up this Gem. Its absolutely beautiful a must-have for your collection

Goofy79

Smells lovely🥰. But the metal/plastic sprayer is pure crap, it crumbles 😠👎👎

reaabf

this was a present from me to my fiancée in 1993 before she became my wife, we both have loved this marvelous perfume, it is so shiny and happy scent, a lovely lovely scent.

Lilah Veil

Volupte', My Love. You never shine brighter than the grey days of winter's chill. You are warm and golden like a hug under the sun on a spring day. Your carnations envelop me in hope of spring to come. You awakened me from the dead so many years ago when my soul did truly die. You kissed me alive on a dead day of winter, brown and grey. You loved me like no other. You kissed my sad tears away and gave me happy ones in return. You were sent as a gift and came bearing gifts of love, hope, joy, and spring eternal. I will never forget the kindness and beauty of you dressed in your tiny glass bottle, smooth as an ancient, polished pebble with your imperial green hat. You are all that is good and lovely as you share your wealth of riches with me. You are precious....and I will always feel alive and beautiful with you. You make lovely whatever I wear and walk along with me whispering, "Love and spring are eternal regardless of the season. I will always love you." Et je t'aimerai toujours aussi, ma belle Volupté'.

Stoicchild

It's a lovely amber perfume. I used to wear it everyday to work. It's respectful and subtle.

Gemsense

Im convinced this fragrance needs heat to bloom. All im getting is cold melon and mimosa. It is tightly closed and none of the other notes are performing. It is a chilly fall day. Ill wait for some warmth to try this again. Right now i much prefer Oscar, but i have a feeling come June, ill be loving this! 💃

Mc1995

Pretty, Sophia Grosjman creation, they are all very pretty and feminine, fruity florals that don’t just smell like shampoo like today’s. They have way more ‘guts’ in them. This one isn’t her best though, it’s pretty but the melon note does come off really synthetic, overall it’s pretty, especially for collectors.(also the cap isn’t the best, it’s kind of a twist on..?)

Katie <3

Very nice, smells like a bunch of fresh and spicy flowers. I can smell violets, but it is freesia. I will wear this scent a lot during Spring time. I like the retro looking bottle with the green cap. I have been trying various Oscar de la Renta perfumes and this one stands out as a particularly nice fragrance, as well as Oscar.

LoneAscendant

I bought a small 10ml bottle of Volupte. The perfume goes on with kind of an awful smell like a sour maple syrup garden hose. After it dries down you can smell flowers and it's not too bad, but it's mostly a skin scent by then. My small bottle must be a reformulation. I tested vintage Tresor on my other arm and there are some similarities between the two after dry down, but the Tresor didn't really last long either. I won't be buying a full bottle of Volupte any time soon. Should I see a vintage bottle for a steal I might try it, but for now it's a useless perfume.

anitasaastamoinen

This was a very pleasant surprise. I usually hate melon notes, but I read from here that this is similar to Tresor (which I love), so I decided to try it. This is not aquatic to me, I usually don't like aquatic fragrances, they don't work on my skin (except Oceanus by Bodyshop). This works well on me and I will use it throughout the year. Maybe this is a little younger version of Tresor. It is also cheaper, so I am happy with my purchase and will absolutely buy this again.

Scentra

I blind bought this, based on the reviews, that matched my taste, and it just arrived, and I could not wait to try it on, this is one I just knew, after wearing for a few minutes, this will be a favorite.

Bloomahyde

In Summer, I can't keep my hands off of this! It starts out with some of the DNA of Oscar but a half hour later I'm left with a delicious sweet creaminess.

For the price, it's amazing.

Amy Ann

Splendid for winter. A powerful woman can wear this like a boss if you combine it with a vintage Escada business outfit, maybe even cashmere jackets or thick velvet. It's a really voluptuous scent, it's full and fragrant without being sweet, vanillate and nauseating.

kateclarkecosmetics

Reformulations have really done a number on this one. Why do I smell gherkins initially? I only get a hint of what was once an intoxicating, syrupy floral. It’s still good. Just not great. Very Smokey at the base. Maybe more incense that smoke. Any fruit is gone in the first minute. No honeyed white flowers any more. Just a sweet rosey incense.

BetaTuga

This perfume is gorgeous. I have used bottle after bottle of it 20 years ago, untill it was no longer available on stores. To me it smells nothing like Tresor. It is as if both were "cooked" the same way and by the same cooker but with different ingredients, thus having a different "taste". Yellow flowers and fruits laying in a bed of golden sweet amber, giving off a sweet golden and oily feeling to it. That's why I feel it is more suited to colder months. It's too rich to use in the heat. It's also very uplifting, like flowers and sun in a bottle. It will uplift you in those cold, sometimes grey and rainy days. It was expensive back then. All perfumes were. Now I found it online amazingly cheap (16,00€ a 100 ml bottle). I won't probably buy it, though, just because I don't like wearing perfumes with memories attached to them (good or bad). But I highly recommend it.

nellyrlight

Passionate love!!! I wish I had gallons of it! But I do have a sizable stash! LOL! Hate that it has been reformulated. Another betrayal @OscardeLaRenta How could you? You do have the original recipe..Why do you destroy it with the look alikes?

ION

Volupte = Tresor + Ex'cla-ma'tion!
A sweet, loveable, feminine perfume that feels like a less mature Tresor.
It might become cloying in high temperature (Greek summer, for example).

Ameliadrevein

Success blind buy this perfume smell yellow just like the juice perfume colour very fresh slightly bitter in the opening but the drydown so pretty and bit powdery also slightly waxy just like the vintage lipstick on my skin I love it ❤️❤️ Its definitely perfect for spring summer
Medium sillage and longevity

Austrian_in_Denmark

Volupté is one enormous bunch of sweet flowers on my skin. I do not get the melon or any other fruit. It is mimosa, carnation, narcissus plus a lot of other flowers, and then the sandalwood, smelling quite spicy in this case. On top of this overload, Volupté is also soapy and musky on my skin.

This is definitely a go-big-or-go-home kind of scent with great strength and longevity. To me it feels more like the 80's than the 90's. I do not remember smelling it when I was a child/teenager, but it perfectly fits into the late 80's fashion of wearing opulent flower perfumes.

I think that nowadays scents like Volupté have a certain shock value. This is not to say that Volupté lacks in quality - quite the opposite. In my opinion it is very deftly made, but the general taste has turned into a different direction.

Supersmelle

The Short: I love this scent. True flower power.

The Long: This is a huge big bundle of flowers! Wowser!-- power in these petals. It does have a melon note in it but, the mimosa and heliotrope and all the supporting floral cast in this are remarkable. It kind of blows my mind today. Lots of sandalwood and amber in there too. I didn't think I would love this after so many years of not sniffing it. But, it is so much nicer than I remember it.

@seamagik thanks for the notes on bottles. I wasn't sure which version I had in my cabinet. But, now I am so glad that I do (vintage)! I want to try the current version still. Your notes definitely helped me!

This is a statement floral fragrance. Be prepared to be noticed. Projection and duration are really great. Very quality product. LOVE IT! Will always have this in my vanity.

Was at the shops today and got a whiff of Tresor, i can definitely smell the semblance only tho, Tresor's stays (whatever that note is)while Volupte's transform into something else. Volupte was so big during it's time, i remember sniffing pages of Vogue and just realised this time around now how nice this frgrance is. I guess it pays to say to take it easy with this one, possibly partner it with the lotion for maximum effect. By the way, the lotion has the perfect translation of how the smell should be, glorious fruity, it has that cloying effect if you make that mistake of overdoing it. This has the same, i'd say strength as Eternity for Women in terms of how blasting it can be when used by the wrong hands. If done correctly tho, it is beautiful and just make it sing song in the background, perfect for cold nights. I do realise that Eternity and Volupte and even Tresor were done by the same perfumer (correct me if im wrong).

Gosha

Volupte is ultra feminine and very sweet, but not gourmand sweet - it is really pure floral sweetness, although there are times in the life of this fragrance on my skin (and particularly on fabric) that make me think of pools full of honey, even though there is no honey in this composition, so I am thinking that it must be the melon. Speaking of which - I don't particularly like melons, although I can't say that I dislike them either. :-) It's just that melons are those "watery-nothing-sweetness-missing-something-sharp" things :-) that only seem to serve as a carrier to something deliciously savoury/salty/meaty :-) That said Volupte is very complex, very pleasing and beautiful! It is somehow soft and strong/rich at the same time, a little oily and also full of classy, dewy lushness. The dry down is somehow luxurious, again - very feminine - and nostalgically, floral(y) sweet (but I still do wish to get something savoury/salty with the melon). :-)

FragrantMama

This is such a yummy scent! I was expecting more floral to come through but on me I can smell a lot of watermelon. Very sweet smelling but also complex. I don't usually like super sweet scents but this is very balanced and well thought out. When I wear this it makes me feel happy and girly and I can't stop smelling my wrists. A beautiful summer time scent!

juniemoon

Every time I wear this I fall in love with it all over again! It's just so perfect for this time of year. So original and timeless. I'll always have it in my collection, such a LOVE for me!

seamagik

I hope this helps anyone looking for a vintage bottle, which I had to hunt down because I'm not loving the new version.

New bottles are made in the USA and distributed by Inter Parfums. The vintage is made in France by Parfums Stern and distributed by Sanofi Beauty Products.

The bottle and box look the same but there are some differences in design. Please keep in mind I can only describe the ones I have now or have seen and there might be other iterations out there.

The new bottle is plain with only an oval sticker on the bottom with the usual information and a batch code and says made in USA. The sticker on the vintage is round with no batch code and it states its made in France. The vintage has Volupte written in large gold letters in front of the bottle under the sweep and Oscar de la Renta at the bottom above the thick glass base. On the old bottles the glass base is even on both sides, but in the vintage bottle it sweeps upwards on the right to match the sweep on top.

A vintage tester bottle will also have a sticker on the back of the bottle saying so with a list of ingredients.

The sprayer on the vintage bottles is large! About 1.5 times higher than in new bottles and also a bit bigger in diameter. The juice is a dark gold colour but it's pale in newer bottles.

Now the box! The 'Volupte' stays the same. All other information in front of the new boxes is neatly aligned, flush on both sides. On old boxes the alignment is centered and therefore uneven on the sides.

The back of new boxes has the ingredients list neatly aligned as well with their website address. Vintages have neat paragraphs of composition and ingredients, then made in France, logo, address and distribution with central alignment which gives it a busier feel.

Okay, too much information! But hopefully this helps someone.

I have what is selling now so no doubt it is reformulated. I really don't get the relation between this and Tresor beyond the fruity notes. This has a whole different floral composition. I usually love Grosjman's creations, but unfortunately, this isn't one of them. It's just too much. If you like big, bold florals that announce your presence before you enter a room, you may like this. For me, I'll take a pass.

meg0825

Oh, what a lovely fragrance!
I own and love several of Sophia Grojsman's creations. Volupte has the fruity-floral powdery freshness that is Grojsman's signature. Melon, mimosa, heliotrope, and freesia are the main players here.
Romantic and feminine.

Eternity Girl

Im completely stunned. All I smell is delicious violets. This has always been my affordable violet perfume.
And I've just read reviews for Volupte for the very first time and apparently it doesn't contain one single violet.
Wow ok. But this perfume is sooo pretty and for me a gorgeous summer scent. Its so so pretty. I really love it so much. Volupte sings in the summer time.

Moreluvr

I ordered this over 2 years ago due to all of the beautiful notes. What a headache inducing letdown. Occasionally I apply it hoping for a change. Today was the day! Oh my it's so lovely! The gentle scent is radiating off my forearms so perfectly! I have the lotion and I originally applied way too much. Today was about a nickel sized amount. I have perfume eating skin so I will reapply probably once more to keep this scent floating around me. I'm a novice at notes but this is a somewhat powdery peachy melon to me with a balance of heliotrope. Never give up!

delightme5

I have always loved this fragrance, whats not to love. On occasion i have mistaken it on a woman for Tresor. Essentially i prefer Volupte. Why ?.. Because when I smell it, its like a magic spell !! Sweet syrupy elixir like but not sickly.

I always encourage women - and some men (potentially) to wear it if it works for them. Forget the era it comes from, just wear it for the delicious (not gourmand) magical fragrance it is.
I recently realised watermelon as a note. Its becoming more apparent why i love its lusciousness. Personally it doesnt really take off for me - but thats ok.

I have an Indian friend who wears it like a charm ! It hovers above her spell-bindingly and i can also see why the green cap is ominous. Volupte alludes to a green nuance - yet not really.!? True magic. And im pretty sure this is a perfume men love smelling.
So, a timeless quality beauty. A WARM heart underneath or can appear fresh COOL like, depending on climate and or chemistry.

medusa666

One of a kind fragrance! Does NOT smell like Tresor-this one has its own signature. With time it smells even better.

JustSimpleThings

Smooth, velvety ambery goodness! Not my style, but a very well-made fragrance nonetheless. This is the closest I've ever come to liking a yellow floral perfume - and that's saying something because usually they make me want to run for the hills! Not this one.
This is pleasant, the mimosa is very well-blended, it is not overly powdery. I especially enjoy the beginning phase, that's when the scent is the most fresh and velvet-y. In the dry-down it does turn more dry and powdery, but still nice.
Give it a go if you would like to try something new and interesting, you won't regret it

violetstorm

so wanted to wear a throw back today & chose this & omg how i love this scent !!! what an amazing blend of florals.....it is strong but yet soft..........its one of those delicious floral blends u just cant stop sniffing (well at least on me lol ) now if u are not into heavy florals then this may be too much for u........and if u dislike tresor by lancome then this may not be for u (its kinda similar to tresor ) or if u were a fan of giorgio scents of the 80's then this may be up your alley :)

i cant pick out specific notes - im not as great as some of u super nose fragranticans lol - but i can say its beautifully crafted & its what a heady soft floral should be :) and yes its very 90's lol

and u can get it on the fragrance discount sites really cheap yeah !!!!

i give this classic gem 5 stars !!! 5 being highest of coarse :)

Hawk65

Tresor is so much better, at least with my chemistry. The Mimosa and Heliotrope come across as very sharp, bitter, screechy, headache inducing. There is a slight similarly, perhaps the heliotrope and sandalwood, but it's missing the softer sweeter notes from Tresor. Perhaps the Carnation in Volupte vs the Rose in Tresor. Not sure what exactly is driving me mad in this Volupte bottle, but I may have to take a shower to go to sleep. This would explain why I am on my 3rd bottle of Tresor to my first half bottle of Volupte. It's just a waxy bitter on me. Blah.

wagners erda

I was wearing this today and I was convinced there was tons of musk in this that was suffocating me, but now I see there is no musk whatsoever according to the notes above. I now think it must be the heliotope which is too overwhelming that it drowns out all of the other notes and reigns right until the end. Lasted about 3-4 hours. I got a very strong blast at the beginning of this heliotrope and peach scent tht reminded me a little of Tresor, then came a distinct bubblegum note that I put down to the tuberose. I loved this bit, but it lasted all of 15 mins! Then it calmed down to that muskiness again. It seemed to block my sinuses and suffocate me! Such a pity. It's not a groundbreaking fragrance. I guess it's quite pleasant if you can get past the heliotrope. I need to give it another try though and concentrate on what it is exactly I'm smelling. Oscar de la Renta has made better fragrances.

EDIT: Summer is definitely the best time to wear this fragrance. There is a gorgeous peach note on top of a floral bouquet. I didn't get the florals at all at first, now I am happy to have rediscovered this fragrance.

MeanSuga

I acquired this beauty from a lovely Fragrantica member <3
It was among bottles of other fragrances , but this green and gold capped , unusual voluptuous shaped bottle caught my eye right away, and was in my hand
"Oooo!"
I have worn Volupte a few times now -
The first spritz was very powerful with that fantastic note of heliotrope, melon, and ylang ylang.
I am not a big melon fan, and the note of it worried me , it can come off as rotten on me - but this time it blends well, and calms just after a few minutes.
I also expected severe powerhouse , high strung screechy, and was surprised that this does not have aldehydes (per the designer, and decade )
I cannot believe how fast the first blast softens into a mellow but fresh and cooling , incensy yellow floral and fruit, and a fleshiness of bubble gummy tuberose ,and jasmine.
Another reviewer commented on an oily type note - I do get that on the drydown, mixed with creamy sandalwood, a tinge of juicy sweetness, and a balsamic nature.
Carnation can be my enemy , a sharp note on me, but I had not picked up on that note at all.
I find myself drawn to this when the weather is warmer/hot, and the cool rainy wet days I have had here in Michigan this spring.
The sillage on me is soft to moderate , I am not blowing anyone away.
The longevity is fair - it grows softer and more undetectable through the day.
I will keep this as a spring summer staple .

annxyz

This smells similar to Tresor, but more complex and rich . The longer I wear it, the more I love it . It has far more presence than most of the watery and sugary scents available now, and also has an air of fresh and feminine elegance .

Volupte is one of the best perfumes I have purchased in several years, and it is incredibly cheap to buy . It is hard to imagine a person not liking Volupte .
Personally, I do not find it heavy , just soft and lasting and well made.

Jmalone84

I expected this to be way more floral. All I got was sandalwood, peach and a hint of herby spicy floral. Quite a soft fragrance, projection is certainly not alarming, and longevity is about 3-4 hours. The bottle and the scent are certainly voluptuous. I am charmed by the 90s classic vibe it gives off. I appreciate it for what it is but have to say it is not mind blowing or even particularly my thing but I will cherish it as part of my collection. Overall a nice soft floral, quite warm, and too heavy in sandalwood for my tastes. Yes, it is similar to Trésor.

Selena

I see this being compared to Lancôme tresor,
I'll agree they have similar vibes, but I'll also say this once and for all, nothing can ever come close to Tresor..
Tresor has its own magic added to it, I have the vintage & the tiniest dab creates a BIG cloud of sweet powdery glorious heavenly lovely (is that enough)? Aroma...

Volupte upon first spray smells like a close dupe for Tresor, but it doesn't have the magic of Tresor. I don't think any perfume will ever come close to Tresor. Especially the vintage.

Do you see how many times I say 'Tresor'? Yes it's that lovely the name won't leave my mouth❤️

Tresor lasts an amazing 8-9 hours with a spray or 2. You'll never feel the need to reapply. Love how loyal and promising vintage scents/formulas are❤️

Volupte sits close to skin, I get 1-2 hours of silage & about 3 hours of longevity.
The bottle looks simple, but I'm afraid the juice inside is not magic enough to fall in love with.

Forbiddenjade

After a few hours, I had to wash it off. Beware, this is a powerhouse beast and will radiate feet away from you: test before you buy.

Sadly, the soapy note was too screetchy for my nose. However, this is an incredible fragance with amazing longevity and sillage!

Forbiddenjade

Ohhh... this is an interesting fragrance!

I just sprayed it on: heliotrope and mimosa made quite an entrance, power couple here. Patchouli is very distinct a note among them, it creates a perfect balance by toning down a notch the heliotrope - which is rather sweet.

There's a soapy note, not a screaming one but I have yet to decide whether it screetches. I am not detecting any fruit yet.
Please be aware this is not similar to Tresor, not one bit. I don't understand why anyone would think of it to be honest, they are worlds apart.

Update soon to come.

socorrosouza

On me it is very much alike to Tresor, almost a dead ringer.Disappointed me, I really didn't want a Tresor clone, wanted to smell the mimosa, which I don't.

Labaloo

I'm surprised that only one other reviewer (JustFloral) mentioned the pepper note! To my nose, it is a combo of pink and black pepper, and adds a spicy, exhilarating facet to the crisp, lively florals. I smell the "cool" florals of freesia, orchid, carnation, and water-lily much-more strongly than the mimosa and ylang-ylang- though they are there too. And then the juicy melon note giving it a "delicious", mouth-watering edge... And is there something herbal like marjoram or bay leaf? Not sure... but this combo in Volupte reminds me of both of the CK Escapes (for men and for women), as well as Paradise by Alfred Sung... all of them early-90's contemporaries, all of them standing in stark contrast to the complex '80's scents in their calm simplicity. Volupte for me is a wonderful reminder of those blissful years.

Phantomias

Volupte is the second Oscar de la Renta frag I'm familiar with, the other being the original Oscar.

Volupte is smooth and soft where Oscar is sharp. I get some florals and fruits from Volupte, and even though it's not listed, a strong hint of violets. Maybe it's the freesias? In any case, it's a lovely warm scent.

I like this fragrance a lot better than harsh old Oscar ... sadly Volupte doesn't last long on my skin either. But as least it's lovely while it's there!

Please check out my thread on the swapping forum!

Sweet floral fruity blast with that distinctive melon/incense twist. This is such a good one; a retro, heady flower bomb, and an epitome of how they made perfume in the good old days. Forget the reformulation which is a disaster, treat yourself to a vintage bottle, plenty out there on auction sites. This one is an absolute gem

oscar de la renta VOLUPTé is such perfume that, when spritzed, goes BLAST ! in your face. there are perfumes that do this harder, hardcore (giorgio, poison, knowing, dusita's oudh infini, frederic malle dominique ropion's al waad, maria grazia novella peau d'espagna, nahema and fleur de bulgarie from guerlain and creed respectively) yet VOLUPTé does it respectfully notwithstanding irreversibly so.
volupté is a fruit floral perfume. we think at samsara, ysatis, amarige. i love it but this has always been the problem, which is now gone. I started my perfumial career in the 70s with all the old formulas, still the 7.5 and 15ml. parfum flacons and chanel no.5, joy, hermès calèche, diorella, miss dior, dioressence, Jules, chanel pour monsieur. (I am a homosexual guy waring ladies perfumes. I know the gents scents from my straight twinbrother.) yes and then came the 80s, my hay days in perfumial hypnosis. all the notorious powerperfumes I loved, the trias Giorgio-Poison-Obsession. yet also Boudoir (1990 as) Donna Karans first perfume build around calla lily. Gale Hayman Beverly Hills (an absolute favorite), Fred Haymans "273", Bijans Bijan, Opium (1977), "Y" by YSL (even better). Knowing, Moschino parfum de toilette as the edp from Christian Lacroix "C'est la Vie". of course chanel's Coco. enough namedropping, but having had this "training", then, Volupté, Ysatis, Amarige seemed .... tame. and I loathed "Trèsor" while I love rose perfumes. I always felt Nahema and Fleur de Bulgarie did this so much better. and still do feel that. then after 2000 came the oud period and I loved ALL oud-roses and ALL ouds, even artificial ones. yet clearly the $ 425 for 1.7 oz. Dusita's Oudh Infini clearly ultimately won. and NOW, after this tumultuous perfumes, I am discovering these old, end 80s start 90s perfumes again which I thèn judged too flustering, subdued, too fruity (what I still do not like). it is a revelation.
the mystery of Volupté is, in my opinion, that after the WHAP a certain indiscernability stays and I recognize this as well-blended and orchestrated ingredients. what we initially smell in the first blast is mimosa, ylang-ylang, cantaloupe, freesia, heliotrope. further intermingling are the fruits: orange, melon, [patchouli, peony and amber]. the tic from this perfume is in the almost indecipherable plenty individual notes yet leaving a trail of tropicalismú and islandery and let us not forget that the late couturier Oscar de la Renta, for once a superfriendly fashionperson, came from the island of Doménica. (Saint Dominique.) I shall always remember his fluttering caraibbean fashion so couture, so American, so refined and full of vivacity. well that's it with this perfume too. it makes you happy. there is a clôche
of lovely lianal junglean perfume around you. the nichistes are wrong with bashing all the fashionhouses with their perfumes. I love niche but certainly there is a lot of bullshit too. I long for these perfumes while never lingering in the past. "The Grand Dietrich-Madonna-Marilyn-
Billy Holiday entrance."

Unripe apricot + greengage + marjoram + pepper (after spraying it's similar to Daylight by Sabatini) + sweetness of heliotrope (fruits and heliotrope as in Jaipur Boucheron).
I swear there is also water lily and violet.

Marjoram/pepper note changes into dry tobacco (dry as base notes of Mahora).
The fragrance is thick (as another 90's perfumes: Lou Lou, No4, Chloe Narcisse), embraces like a boa snake.

moonrise

Received this one as a gift and boy do i love it!
Medium sillage, great longevity. It lasts and lasts.
Makes me feel like i'm walking in a yellow flowers meadow. Has a very green opening. Really a classic, timeless fragrance.Bottle is so retro.

SweetLadyForOne

I just bought a bottle of this yesterday, and I've never had such a reaction to a perfume before. It's gorgeous! It is sweet, fresh, feminine, classy and beautiful! I'm planning to buy a backup bottle, as I've been reapplying it every several hours since. I can't stop sniffing myself. Mmm. I have nearly 200 bottles of perfume, but none of them smell like this. It is perfect.

Contessa01

This is classic late 80’s /early 90’s fair. From I think about 86-93 approx a lot of Volupte style fragrances were released. What I like about this era is that this breed of perfume has lasted the test of time (but maybe I’m biased). I love floriebtals and they tended to die out once everyone removed their shoulder pads and Eternity and CK One minimalist perfumes took over the marketplace, which was understandable. I just love the complexity of the Volupte’s and the Tresor’s of the world, the confidence felt when wearing perfumes that enter the room before you do and exit long after, what can I say. Volupte is a great find, a quality floriental at a fraction of the cost of others, perfect if you’re after the vibe but on a budget. I think it’s aged well and happy to have this in my collection, with a cute green cap to boot.

kati77

Really nice, sunny scent. Not to much saying 90ties, which i like it. Rich, well blended, dominant yellow flovers note.
I think if Lancome's Poeme would not existm this one would take its place.

Mona Lygre

Volupte brings the 90ths back, the fruity and powdery fragrance, and I still like it after all these years, and I got a big bottle =))

NouveauDruid

Right when it was released my poor father gave this to me as a gift, so trying to please me that he paid no attention (?) to my tastes nor the smell of this. And poor Volupte. The melon RUINS what might have been a pleasant floral.

Honestly, it made me gag and I am the type of person who regularly wears Samsara, Opium, Hypnotic Poison, Prada, Alien, and Black Orchid.

Still, I cannot hate it because my dad's been gone for 22 years and each time I see the name, Volupte, or it's green-capped bottle I fondly think of his gesture.

Dawnababes

I got Volupte as a blind buy at Ross today. They had it and Oscar de la Renta “Rose” as well, so I got both. I chose Rose because of the positive reviews and realized there were mixed reviews for Volupte but got it anyway because of the interesting notes that were listed and, well, it’s Oscar.

I was excited to try it but was going out with family and I didn’t want to obligate by spraying too much on, so I spritzed a small bit on my upper forearm so I could sample it and keep it the myself. It was odd at first, not a fresh, beautiful floral or fruity, really. I thought maybe melon, but in a weird cantaloupe way, as in it had a strange slant, one that would cause someone to probably either like it or not. I got busy with my fam and forgot about it until I got home and smelled it again about three hours later. It was pretty soft by then and so I wanted to try it again in a bigger dose. I sprayed a good amount on my wrists this time, wanting to really experience it.

So, as before, it was odd. My immediate impression was that of the ylang ylang. This particular combination ireminded me of the original scent Pledge furniture polish that my mom used in the ‘70s. That subsided and gave way to what I reasoned must have been what I perceived as the melon scent, but I also detect what others are calling violet. My best description of the scent on me is RAID. Raid bug spray! I sniffed over and over, trying to find all these flowers that others were describing, but all I could think of was of my dad using Raid in his shed back in the ‘70s. That then gave way to the time I stayed up late one night, waiting and spraying a can of bug spray for a roach I was sure I had seen in an apartment we’d just moved into. I didn’t get a fishy smell at all, but ... maybe a rotting fruit smell like ... durian? Who knows. After a while it softened but that strange odor didn’t completely go away and it then gave way to the warm, wafting, elusive scent that I think people are describing as the can’t-smell-it-directly-but-it-floats-around-as-I-move experience. Even so, still a weird scent.

I did consider that when I try it again I will do it on clothing and see how that goes. I appreciated that recommendation was also mentioned from someone else on here because that gives me hope. Maybe also in warmer weather, out in the sun. I’ll have to update when I come to a conclusion. :-)

sandifitzg

I smell lily of the valley, patchouli, sandalwood and green notes. I love the sweetness wrapped in the bitter green notes....bitter sweet. The patchoili and amber add depth. Generous sillage and lasting time. A favorite.....i love it. It does sometimes take awhile to understand and love a fragrance as this one really grew from something that made me curious to something i truly love.

scentist

I ordered it because I liked Jaipur. It is not at all how I remembered Jaipur, it is 80% like Tresor which I am not a fan of so I am going to give this away. Good price for a frag similar to Tresor, though.

HeavyBeatsUK

Smells like really strong violets to me. Not the powdery, makeup violet. Just flowery violet. I expected more of a green fragrance. The bottle should be purple.

I might wear it in the spring or summer if I'm going through a sweet, girlish phase.

sophiesnose

Immediately after spraying this I said to myself, "This must be Sophia Grojsman!" And, it is! I have been trying to put my finger on what exactly makes a Sophia Grojsman so distinct and after comparing 5 of her scents, that make me say "Oh this is a Sophia Grosjman!" I have discovered that they all have four notes in common. Amber, Sandalwood, Heliotrope, and Lily of the Valley. Some of them have other notes in common but they ALL have these FOUR notes in common. The 5 I compared are; Sun Moon Stars by Karl Lagerfeld, Ex'cla-ma'tion by Coty, Diamonds and Rubies by Elizabeth Taylor, Tresor by Lancome and Volupte by Oscar de la Renta. I don't know if this discovery makes me happy or sad. They are not dupes for each other but they all have the same feel. I was excited to take Volupte for a spin but was immediately disappointed when it smelled all too familiar. My advice would be if you have a large collection, go for it! But if you are trying to cull it down to a reasonable size you may find these to be a bit too similar. Good thing I'm not that reasonable! I'm sure at some point I will have to say goodbye to a few of her scents, but today is not that day!

Timby

I didnt like this one when it first came out in the 90's. My tastes were different then.

I really like it now. It is soft, elegant, not too obtrusive I think. Wears well for day, perhaps into night.

I see this more as a warm weather scent. Though maybe not for high humidity.

The yellow flowers come across clearly, and I only detect Tresor notes in the drydown. So, while it bears simularities, it is not the same. Volupte is more cheerful and sparkling, with a definite green hint. Tresor is rounder and softer, no green..and I feel a better cool weather fragrance.

A fairly safe blind buy i guess, though i dont generally think that is ever a good idea if it can be avoided.

SayakaP

I blind-bought 100ml Edt after reading reviews here.
It does remind me of Tresor (which I LOVE so much). Starts differently but drydown is almost identical on my skin.... except that Volupte is smoky and has more Musk.

Papavero0

It's funny to think that this was the big scary monster during my childhood...My mother had received this perfume, but never wore it. I would always be curious to give it a sniff every now and then, but always ended up being nauseous after that experience. It was simply too much for a child. I think it actually made me declare that perfumes are not for me...Well, I think it's safe to say that didn't happened! :)At least now I'm more educated and understand that the melon and mimosa in Volupte were simply not for me...

sandifitzg

This may be one of my new favorites. It is like being enveloped in a cloud of soft flowers. It has a strong presence without being screechy...really lovely enchanting fragrance.

I love mimosas so I tried Volupte, but all I can feel on my skin is Iso E Super, much alike Tresor. Both perfumes were created by Sophia Grojsman and both are ,to my nose, Iso E super heavy. Longevity is 4 hours with soft sillage to my nose (probably my nose doesn't do well with Iso E).

Oh my, I lOVE it. And it is a real power house. I kind of underestimated its power yesterday. I am trigger friendly by nature, and this needs to be applied really, REALLY carefully. Strangely when I originally got it 6 months ago I was not too impressed and put it to the side for all this time. Yesterday I thought: "I don't really remember what this smells like. I know I was not over the moon, but let's just get the memory cells working here and try it again." And oh my GOSH, yesterday I went crazy over this juice. I am not sure if my body chemistry changed during these 6 months, or maybe it's just because the weather is different, but now I cannot even fathom why it was not instant love. It is truly feminine, interesting, not too warm, but also not harsh. Peppy, with enough sweetness and freshness, somewhat ladylike but with a very young vibe. It makes me feel younger than my real age, but begs to be worn with full blown, 60's style, sultry makeup, the Brigitte Bardot kind of makeup style, with nude lipstick that plumps up your lips and dramatic eye shadows (smoky eyes with purple, green or gray eye shadow and black smudged eyeliner. If you have the eyes for it, even winged.) Volupte is superb. It's the kind of perfume I envision a sexy Bond girl would have worn during those Roger Moore and Sean Connery James-Bond-days.

I always go back to Volupte. Violet is not listed as a note. I always thought violet and mimosa made me love this fragrance. I see in the comments that other people smell violet as well. I'm also a sucker for a good, 90's floriental. Love the balsamic spiciness in Volupte. I have a large, older bottle of edp from a great batch. I'll be so sad when I finish it.

Mmm...Smells

I'm too stunned that 7 people believe this smells like Tresor to say anything.

Other than... I have loved this fragrance since the 80's. It may have changed some, but it's still decent.

Where do I begin... I adore Volupte so much, but its allure captured me slowly. I blind bought Volupte, based on reviews here that it is similar to Jaipur. Well, to me that is not obvious, and having loved Jaipur for a long time I was quite disapointed. It also had a slightly rotten waft for the first month, but I kept reaching for it. I must have gotten an old bottle because the sillage and longevity are excellent. I'm having a hard time trying to define the scent itself, you have done it so well before me, it's a warm round fruityfloral that takes me to another place and time, magical.

Tracyarts

On my skin, the fragrance opens with a blast of pure mimosa, which to me smells pretty harsh, like synthetic violet. That lingers a while, and is almost a dealbreaker for me. But once that initial violet note fades some, it takes off in a whole other direction. Soft, sweet, and succulent. The ylang-ylang, tuberose, and osmanthus come together to make something floral and peachy. The amber, sandalwood, incense and vanilla add a depth and warmth to it that keeps it from being a fruity floral, and elevates it to something much more sophisticated and timeless. IMO, too heavy for hot weather, and perfect for a special occasion when you want to be "perfumed".

I have a vey hard time with Grojsman scents and this is my hardest so far. I won this in a perfume auction lot and it's taken me awhile to get around to trying it. This is everything that is hard for me about Grojsman scents and this is Sophia at her very best (or worst depending on your personal tastes.) Heady, FLORAL, cloying, those synthetic syrupy fruit notes. I tried but this is a big no for me.

laulaura

This has the same oily- powdery texture as Sun Moon Stars by Sophia Grojsman. I have Sun Moon Stars since little from my mother. And when i was little i saw this bottle of perfume from my mother and liked it so i kept it.It's 20 years old or better, 25 and still it contains some perfume in it.The perfume smells just the same as then,it's texture is oily and sticky,it's colour hasn't changed or darkened a tone, neither altered.
So Volupte has the same oily, creamy texture as Sun Moon Stars and the same sensual apeal because of the texture, and both even if they smell different have a soapy sharp spicy oily smell.
Besides the texture's similarities in Sun Moon and Stars, even 'Beautiful' Estee Lauder has a warm, long lasting "stinking" quality which i find in Volupte, the three of them share similarities even if they smell different.
Anyways about Volupte: first spary is full melon and a sweet heavy green note which dominates the others tamed by a powdery base.It is heavy, warm yelow, flowery, sweet and green in a heavy smelling way. It has a mettalic smell as well but the green and heavy yelow flowery make it a noticeable perfume and it is long lasting, the sweet and powdery make it pleasant.
it smells from far away, it can fill a room and because of the green and sweet i get sick of it. It reminds me of times when i got car sick and it s something about the smell. It smells nice but can be grose because of the green and yellow sweet, the green isn t fresh is just sweet green and powdery and even if the notes are clearly there noticeable distinguishing evident green, melon yellow flowery - which makes it kind of simple there is to much going on in it's composition that makes you dizzy.when it settles into the powdery sweet is smells nice but still to much going on and nauseating.it is fishy because of the sweet spichy salty.
I don t know why but when i think of it i think of a kactus plant that s how the green note apeals to me even if i don t actualy know how a kaktus smells like

Volupte is wonderful.

It opens rather loudly with a fruit basket smell...but that quickly disappears, and the most gorgeous, buttery yellow flowers come to the forefront. Quite a complex juice, a green yellow floral that ultimately dries down to incense, sandalwood, patch and vanilla, almost Oriental. All the while, a faint melon scent dances with violets, spicy carnation, narcissus and mimosa. A warm, inviting scent, with nice longevity and good sillage. Elegant and playful at the same time, Volupte is a winner for every season. A woman of any age could wear this beautifully, it comes off as a very expensive niche scent.

Madrona

I struggle with many of Grojsman's creations (Sun Moon Stars, Tresor, Paris). That said, she has an olfactory signature that is unmistakably hers. Volupte works for me. The crass among us would call it dated, I call it a classic. There is a buttery character to the flowers together with a smooth, green note and it's a very interesting combination. I like it.

Volupte is a dream

I was captivated by the aroma. It's summer in a bottle. The fruit is a delicious cornucopia of melons and citrus. Fresh. It's not like the scent of fruit in the market place however, although when I think of melons that's what I think of. The scent is a more "voluptuous" fruity floral, with a heavy floral heart and sandalwood base. Sophia Grojsman created this beauty and I'm all over her perfumes. This is quite lovely.

The flowers that are in it also speak of summer and sun kissed narcissus, mimosa, ylang ylang, heliotrope and carnation. Each flower is detectable and it never gets powdery it's more of sticky floral, with an almost honeyed base. The incense is warm and perfumy, there's sandalwood and a bit of patchouli to give it some kick. This is more of an Oriental to me with sweet fruit and floral notes. It matches up with summer cocktail dresses although it has a formal and elegant air. In British summer time, this stuff is amazing.

The perfume smells like a million dollars and while it is not expensive at all, it can feel like you've spent as much money on it as you would a Chanel. This is highly recommended.

PinkRainbow

I always wore this "way back when", and adored it! VERY different-- hard to describe. Strong melon note among the florals which brightens the whole concoction. A strong romantic vibe. Love it.

meliecat

Absolute treasure! A typical 90s perfume, full of aroma - not for the faint-hearted nor for those in their 20s either..I had a big bottle of it and defo have to have it in my collection again!

BaWika

It was the first perfume my mum was ever given, and it was from my father. It takes me back to when I was a small child, being hugged by my mother when she was picking me from kindergarten. This scent if it would be a person, it would be a strong, mature, decisive woman that is warm, open, not overly optimistic but always uplifting the mood. I could not wear it, I am way too young, I still have to get more mature as it is a complex scent and I wouldn't say universal, not all will be able to appreciate it.

alchimia72

So beautiful, so sunny, so smiling Grojsman's creature. Love, love and love. It begins with a fruity note of melon, I detect also a minty note not present in the pyramid. After that it changes to a floral composition with a note of violet (maybe the heliotrope?), or violet leaf so delicious and elegant. I have the edt and after 12 hours I can still smell it. Eccellent discovery of Sophia's genius. I prefer it to Tresor.

Planet_X

Sophia Grojsman called "Picasso" in a Perfumery World, for her ability to create something unique from seemingly simple notes. I remember years I was running away from all her peaches after Tresor, ha! Those times long gone.
Now I am religiously gathering all her babies, loving every single one and can't stop to be amazed by her talent.
I applied Volupte with head deep down in my shoulders and holding eyes closed tightly, as I hate melons/watermelons in fragrances, but it was Grojsman after all, so I thought "whatever, let it be!", and oh YES, that was it, HUGE yellow mimosa flowers, tickly, zesty, elevating and shining. It is like mimosa with all greenery of brunches and leaves, you leaving trails after yourself, like wearing bright yellow scarf behind your shoulders, the smell is flowing, circling, surrounding you and makes people wonder. It has this floating green layers of mimosa, bitter spicy one from narcisse and carnation, velvety from lotus and peony and something really ozonic-fresh, so even if you will not stand outside with fresh wind in your face, you will still FEEL that wind, even in dark room with blinds shut. Amazing!

Southern Blonde

Paradise Perfume. The first few minutes I smell sweet and juicy fruits like watermelon and melon. Once it gets into the heart I smell heliotrope, mimosa, ylang-ylang. The overall effect is that of a more elaborate and detailed fruity floral scent. It's beautiful, it's sweet, feminine, heady, intoxicating and delicious. I have the EDP which sells on Amazon. I believe this is the reformulation and the only way to smell the original is to get the little miniature bottle splash bottle. I have that one too but do not notice that many differences except the the splash bottle has more incense. This is an amazing perfume. It's similar to those powerful fruity florals from the 80s and 90s like Amarige by Givenchy, Azzaro 9 and Lancôme's Tresor. Gorgeous gorgeous fragrance. The other day I wore it on a date and the guy was loving it on me.

lindley

At first two sprays of this was completely overwhelmingly powerful, almost off putting, yet with a weird beauty that was both earthy and unearthly. Eventually it settled, and rich sweet amber and fruits came out, more restrained and approachably beautiful, but still with that white floral and incense buzz.

Just worlds away from all the perfumes I am trying on and confusing with each other these days.

Love it or dislike it? To be honest, I need to familiarise myself with it more to be sure. But i am very pleased to make this scent's acquaintance. I won't forget it.

Vivavoice

update may 2018: Oops an update i completely forgot to do. i think it was disappointment ;) I liked but did not love Volupte. Very feminine but not animalic or balsamic enough for me. Wonderfully romantic smell. Very safe and classic. I was expecting a voluptuous feel and for me, it is not. Only Sophia Grosman creation I could pass on.

.....................................................................
Panting with anticipation after these really wonderful reviews. I love perfumes that evoke such magical and sometimes healing emotions! This was made the year my son was born. Never saw it at the time, but then I wasn't looking like I am now.

I just ordered a 100ml bottle on Amazon for an incredible price of £15.15. It was meant to be..... come to me Volupte!

Le_Coeur_Gothique

How does yellow smell?
To me it smells like Volupté, for Volupté is a million suns burning in a bottle, blooming like yellow and white incandescent cosmic flowers, embroidered in the huge dark canvas of the space between the stars.
Most of the time we tend to forget that down-to-earth matters are still floating in a microscopic speck of cosmic dust swirling in the most farflung rims of a rather tiny galaxy.
If there was some fictitious fusion between the sci-fi and cloak and dagger genres, this would be the treasure waiting for the audacious adventurer in the end.
This is what Conan the Barbarian would risk his life for, in order to seize it from its rare earth august pedestal, facing either monstrous sentinels or grids of death rays all the way.
And while its abstract shape would have probably looked incomprehensible to his barbaric mind, the walnut-sized emerald on its top, beaming mesmerising memories of dense humid forests and lost cities, would have made it irresistible to his ravenous eyes.
I can't decide whether its bottle depicts a very primitive or a highly stylised bust of some long-forsaken goddess.
In its golden fathomless depths I can see the voluptuous charms of a barbarian queen ruling on some lush corner of an exo-planet, totally unaware that she's been monitored by eyes coming from thousands of light-years away. Eyes belonging to a deep-space plunderer named something like Carmen Sandiego, whose scent is oscillating like a pulsar for all eternity. Volupte is both these women and each of them is fiercely tantalising in her own unique way.
And while its top notes are scorching supernovas wreaking effulgent splendour on the dark and frozen extremities of the macrocosm, its base note is tears shed for something dear and long gone. And although you can hardly recall what it was, its absence still ravages your heart.
Somewhere in the background a melancholic voice is singing:
"For a moment you could not recall the colour of her eyes..."
And I stand terrified by the unbearable veracity these words are carrying.

VOLUPTUOUS

A fragrance of pure luxury. This perfume has it all: Flowers, Fruits, incense, amber, sandalwood. If you study the composition of this perfume you learn everything you need to know about what a fragrance should be. First of all I love heliotrope so I always seek out fragrances with heliotrope. This is a Sophia Grosjman perfume and I love her creations. This starts fruity but not in the fruity way we think of as cheap fruity perfumes today. It's a table at a banquet hall where elegantly dressed heads of states, royalty and diplomats are dining - on fruits. Watermelon, melon, oranges and mimosa drinks. Mimosa is usually found in fragrances that contain citrus because it's similar to that orange smell just like orange blossom. The same banquet table has been adorned with flowers and they are: narcissus, lotus, peony, heliotrope, carnation ylangylang jasmine and lily of the valley. Without the fruits, this could easily pass for a Chanel or perhaps a well made classic Estee Lauder. I can't tell you how much this fragrance means to me. I wear it to feel confident as some fragrances can tend to do that. I work hard so that I can spend my money on surrounding myself with beauty: flowers, home decor beautiful designer clothes and perfumes. Fragrance is like the icing on the cake of my life. And this little beauty is a huge trophy of a perfume. I highly recommend it. This is even better than Oscar de La Renta's first perfume Oscar. This is another masterpiece by Sophia Grosjman. I recommend her perfumes to all women. Every woman is a flower and her perfume is her fragrance.

Swamp Lily

Voluptuous Volupte is a green and yellow bursting bouquet that makes me light headed after one tiny spray. Thankfully it settles down after ten minutes, otherwise I'd be headachy. After half an hour that tiny spray has become a gentle floral with arms length silage and a lot of staying power. Still it's a yellow, dated, rich garden of a fragrance. There are perfumes that I like to have just for the experience of knowing them and enjoying their company, almost like that friend you can't take anywhere. That is Volupte. I'm enjoying it today after hours of heavy gardening, pulling out vigorous climbing weeds from the back of the block. After a refreshing shower, a spray of Volupte is part of a perfect wind down with its earthy florals, complexity and rich cosiness.

Testing . . vintage spray 1.7 oz, EDT...Big marks for sillage, nuclear and longevity. Once it gets into your nose, it will stay there....A floral, fairly classic SG creation. Similar to some of SG´s others. A fairly heavy white floral, but something in it makes me smell it over and over. Maybe the musk. When it dries down, like an hour later, it is quite soft. This one needs to be applied in the tiniest amount though as they oldies were a force to be reckoned with. I personally prefer Oscar, but this one is more floral and less smoky. If you like bold white florals like Beautiful, you will like this also I think. Bottle has a great feel, really solid and heavy. To me, this is the kind of classic perfume that if you were in a womens washroom, randomly testing, 80% of the women would think this is OK, even if they didnt love it. It is a good price. If someone wants to trade this, my bottle is full 95% and in good condition, no box.

I adore this scent so much it brings a tear to my eye when I am feeling particularly nostalgic and a tad melancholic. I am grateful for it, for, in many ways, this divinely rapturous scent brought me back to life. (Hang with me friends, I will get to it. This one has taken some time to even express.)

A dear friend love-gifted a perfume mini to me in the early '90s, several months after suddenly losing my beloved young sister. My friend worked a well-respected perfume counter and Volupte arrived along with a mini of Tresor and several samples of luxe cosmetics. I was in my late 20's at the time and The Bad News of my lifetime made the chilly grey winds of fall and winter unbearably bitter. I think I actually died. Somewhere in my haze of unbeing and being, the daze/days grew a bit longer and the sun began to shine but I could not awaken... though I do recall a short, meaningless sleepwalk to the mailbox. The parcel inside was a curious thing though I was numb and frozen.

My emotions were flat as I recall The first choice of sample being the Oscar mini. I chose it because the little bottle seemed smooth and soothing to touch, and it was. It happened with the first dab to my wrist. I cannot recall the time-lapse. It seemed like seconds and years of the strange sensation that suddenly overwhelmed me. Something was happening in my chest, no, my heart; the deepest place in it, the dead part with the big hole bearing my beloved only sister's name. Putting my nose to my wrist with eyes closed, I suddenly began weeping, pouring tears that would not stop as I saw and smelled the golden sun, the purple-blue of violet and heliotrope, velvety pink carnations like that of new birth and skin, the fresh burst of lush green and life itself. Being dead, I thought Heaven had surely come to save me. I still cannot say why I had never felt so loved at that moment but I did. Not only did I love Volupte, Volupte seemed to love me even more. It was a bouquet of pure love, life, laughter, and every wonderful memory of my life. After existing so long as a ghost moving through a black and white void, this liquid gold was a divine arrival. It was everything celestially beautiful, elegant, precious, and soft with the power of a loving hug mixed with laughter on The Best Spring Day one could possibly ever dream of or imagine... and I cried for gratitude... that I was alive. I had somehow survived... as Volupte whispered "Awaken sweet Girl, and live. You are alive... and life is beautiful."

:)

Volupte is intensely precious and glorious; a gorgeous blend not credited only for breathing life back into my soul, though it absolutely did. I still believe only this scent could have gifted me in the miraculous way it did. Supremely thick with love, life, and color, I prefer it in the cooler months to offset the sometimes too many grey days. Thank you so much Miss Grosjman! If you only knew.)

Vegas Pauli

I launched this when it first came out in the early 90's. The vintage original blend was a heavy fruity/floral with a strong incense note that made it distinctive and different. Melon and incense together? Really different and at the time nothing smelled like it. It was very exotic and people loved it. Now it's a watered down fruity floral and the incense note is barely there. Its nice and similar to what is was, but a mere shadow. When I heard about the incense notes of Belle D'Opium, I was hoping it would be like the vintage Volute, but nope it is not. The vintage version could easily be a Tom Ford Private Blend scent, it was that good.

emmarion

Delicious melon goodness! It's warm and whole hearted and so beautifully sweet and feminine. The fruit blends perfectly with the flowers, to create a youthful yet sophisticated scent that's wearable at any time of year, for just about any occasion. I always reach for this when I don't have time to put any thought into which scent to choose. It's hard to go wrong with this beauty. I'm gutted to hear that it's been discontinued! I have a 100ml bottle at home, but I'm definitely going to be keeping my eyes open for a backup or two.

AnnaT

just start using this one.

No idea what to describe the top notes. It is certainly very different from the modern usual fruity top notes. A bit old fashioned.

i love the middle notes/base notes though. It is getting warmer and nuttier on me as time passes (the Vanilla?). The unexpected side effect is it makes me hungry!

saintlunaire

thanks Arzacu for your review. I tried it and i love it. The Eliothrope signature of S Grojman is always gorgeous.

I tried it today on my wrist and after 2 sea baths i can always smell it !!

Walking Unicorn

This may start out as a floral green because of the heliotrope, mimosa, and freesia, but over the course of an hour or so the amber and melons come out along with ylang-ylang, lily of the valley and narcissus making this almost more of a sweet oriental floral perfume. It’s very feminine and beautiful.

MadeiraD

The EDT:It’s all mimosa and fruit and heliotrope and freesia and oranges and melon and summer sexiness that I love to death.

I’ve never smelled anything quite like it. It’s refreshing, and yet ultra strong, gorgeously summery. It's somehow very dry (I think that's the mimosa) despite the ultra juicy fruits.

lotus and jasmine

EDP vintage review (my review of the EDT is below):

The EDP opens with a strong melon note. Not watermelon, or any identifiable melon, but a clear, juicy note. I typically dislike melon, but this is pretty, although somewhat reminiscent of candy flavoring.

The melon remains through the heart, when narcissus appears, and the same progression of notes takes place as with the EDT. In general, the EDP is stronger than the EDT. However, the primary difference in scent is due to the melon note, which remains throughout the life of the perfume. On my skin, this note makes the evolution of the scent, the appearance of the other notes, harder to detect. For intensity, I prefer the EDP. For actual scent, I prefer the EDT, which is more varied, and has a more complex presentation.

lotus and jasmine

Review for vintage EDT:

This bottle is truly striking in person, very art nouveau, with clean lines and a nice heft. The cap on the 1.7 oz splash bottle is a touch strange, as the angled form needs to be twisted until it sits perfectly flush. However, the seal seems to be quite good once it is fit properly, and I'm not seeing any leaks, despite there being no threads on the stopper.

My skin tends to eat florals, and my initial application left me wondering where the famed Volupte power was. A second application, trailing from wrist to elbow brought enlightenment.

To my nose, Volupte opens with bitter narcissus very much forward, supported by osmanthus. Where osmanthus frequently has a suede like scent to me, and occasionally smells of plums, this osmanthus reminds me strongly of apricot fruit leather- dense, more tart than sweet, distinctly tangy. The sillage, for some reason, reminds me of buttered toast...served first thing in the morning, with tea, and apricot preserves (osmanthus) eaten sitting in the sunshine. I'm not sure where this accord is coming from, but it is quite distinct, and surprisingly joyous.

The heart opens slowly, after more than an hour. Soft, sweet mimosa, faint LoV, the slightest touch of carnation appear. Then jasmine and cyclamen move forward, supported by the fantasy peony note. Throughout this phase the fantasy freesia note is present, but not plasticky, adding a sense of "gloss" to the scent. Eventually a touch of tuberose shows up, demure, almost shy, very unusual for this note.

In the dry down heliotrope and melon step forward, supported by sandalwood and a touch of incense. Start to finish, I would classify Volupte as cheerful, surprisingly fresh, and thoroughly unexpected. The very sweet notes are carried by the almost herbal, very green, bitter narcissus base. The fruits are not the sugared versions that have been prevalent for the past decade, but rather tart. The floral elements are blended with a beautifully light touch, and the sweetness they bring is glorious, and never overwhelming.

I had expected Volupte to be heavy, a cool weather scent. Instead this is one of the most light filled scents that I have encountered, serenely joyous, energizing, the sort of scent that reminds you to stop and experience the world around you. Volupte, to my mind, is not so much about voluptuousness in the sense of sex appeal, but rather the voluptuousness of fully experiencing the world around us, dwelling in the present, and mindfully engaging with the multitude of stimulation all around. For me, Volupte is a meditation retreat in a bottle, perfect for those times when you can't disappear for a week, but you really need a break.

This is a go to scent! On my skin it needs warm weather to really be apparent in all it's glory, but it is wearable year round, and I think it will be a wonderful anodyne to winter blahs. Elegantly casual, effortlessly chic. I feel like this is the perfect scent to wear when one isn't sure what note to hit, but needs to impress. Tremendously versatile, and a joy to experience.

ktyhan

The dry down is so smooth and lovely... lingering hours and hours... and close to the skin. I also love the original Oscar and Esprit, and am determined to bring So De La Renta and Live in Love into my collection. You can never go wrong with these high quality Oscar perfumes (unbeatable prices a plus for sure;P)

Sherihan

Purchased a new bottle from department store, and it's as lovely as I remember it from first years of its production. Love love love , Sophia Grojsman's in proud, as all her creations, she is a Goddess

Sorayya

Volupté was my first "real" perfume back in my early twenties...it escorted me to adulthood :-)

I had left it on the side and recently tried it again...wow! How could I have deserted it for so long? It is powerful (in a good way) and so different from what I'm used to wear now.

To me it opens up with a citrus smell (must be the mandarin) and the yellow flowers...then I can pin point the heliotrope, sandalwood, amber, and something sweet (the melon probably)...then it's a parade of flowers, yellow ones pridominantly, the carnation, the ylang-lang... and I do detect a little bit of that patchouli. I do not get the vanilla at all.

It is a strong smell for that reason I would not wear it at the office, and not on a hot spring or summer day.

I will have to purchase another bottle cause I fell in love again with that perfume... and my husband loves it... even my son kept telling me how good I smelled :-)

valbona.bergman

Bought this blindly and at first sniff i was unsure. First it has that note which i don't like similar to tresor...so i hated the opening. After long time, the dry down is a luxurious ,sweet and powdery scent. Not bad at all...it's just that note that smells like rubber on my skin that bothers me! It has a very nice longevity. I love the sillage and smelling it from a distance. Waves of powdery sweetness bring to my mind the victorian era for some reason and this makes it a good buy :)

PLUMPIE

This is a really odd fragrance - powdery, yet sweet and syrupy layered over subtle spices. I actually don't detect any melon on my skin, which is strange as usually it is quite noticeable with my chemistry. I get a good dose of peach and amber at the start (which initially wasn't so keen on as I don't really like peach as a scent), then it blends into hyacinth, powdery lilac and sandalwood which is strange as neither of the hyacinth or lilac is listed as a note here, I think I can also detect violets. This is very similar to Tresor on me, but a slightly more summery version and perhaps even a bit more sexy? It also smells a lot like Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and rubies and also her Black Pearls which I cannot wear (it is too fleshy over-ripe peach on me). I do detect a bit of Samsara in here as another reviewer has mentioned below, but it is nowhere as heady or heavy sandal-Tonka as Samsara is on my skin. I haven't owned Tresor for a few years (used to be my signature) as my partner doesn't like it (upsets his sinus problems) so it will be interesting to see how this fares around him. A blind buy which was worth it, got this for a steal and it's a big old 100ml. Will be a good fragrance for wearing around the house all day. It seems to quickly meld with my skin - if I sniff it directly I can't actually detect it but held far away I get a nice whiff of it every so often. My only issue is the bottle is prone to leakage - you need to make sure the spray is pressed down fully each time (no half sprays) and that it raises up again fully afterwards otherwise it leaks all over the show.

Update: after wearing for a day and a half I unfortunately am getting a headache from this scent. Just like Diamonds and Rubies/Black pearls I get an overwhelming sickly sweet peachy note which over time offends my nostrils. This is too sweet for me. I can appreciate it but it will be going to a new home soon.

munchay

After going through the reviews and seeing this at a discount in my local drugstore I thought why not.I'm not for floral greens but more into orientals. Seeing the sandalwood, jasmine, amber, insense, vanilla and even patchouli oh my how could I resist?

Although there are a lot of florals, there is something oriental about Volupte. The drydown is powedry. I can smell that sandlewood with osmanthus mimosa and ylang-ylang.They are verymuch dominating. There is something sweet in there must be the melon. That's how Volupte smells like.

I tested Guerlain Samsara today and this reminds me of the sandalwood in Samsara but in a more sweeter accord.
They both have sandlewood, Ylang-Ylang,jasmine.
There isn't anything green about Volupte. I don't get any vanilla and patchouli notes as listed and insence either. Where are all those flowers?
Wait I can smell that carnation maybe that's what gives that bitterness.

The sandalwood is in the top notes and it dissapears as Volupte develops.

I can't remember how tresor smells like.Everyone seems to comment that this is more closer to Tresor.

Overall I'm not dissapointed.
It's rich, well defined, mature, sweet and very much feminine.
Volupte is so much underated, if it reminds you of Tresor and for me Samsara in a way because of the sandlewood, it is a good buy for bargain hunters.

I should try this in warmer weather the cold winter doesn't bring out the best in Volupte.

Kleseka

Had to return. My little one developed an allergy to it.
My husband didn't like ether.Very strong and unbearable
smell for 30 min at least then it's getting better but still strong and super powdery. Difficult for me to understand complicity or magic about it I guess. I had to open windows after 2 sprays ventilation wasn't enough
to eliminate Volupte magic.

This is my fave spring time scent because it matches the season so beautifully - from the initial green grass blast which reminds me of freshly mown lawns, through to the fresh sweet floral freesia centre, to the sandalwood dry down. Heavenly. I have one wee gripe though and that's with the cheap plastic gold casing holding the green lid which breaks too easily. I have a friend whose one also broke. This needs to be fixed as it does not do this lovely juice justice. Otherwise perfect.

silvia d

It disappointed me, a little; it has a different smell than I expected.. But i like that oily(somehow) scent..It s like a mix between an old cologne and and a light, floral scent. But i'd still want to try other fragrances from him!

eliane.goncalves.796

Volupté, you were one of my first perfumes, maybe my first essence of woman, removed from the nest of purity and innocence. An abrupt initiation, because of your strong and eloquent presence; you made me a call:
"Girl..., you'll be a woman soon. Please ... come, take my hand."
I took your hand, and you touched me with an exquisite fragrance, the kind of scent that is difficult to find nowadays, because of so many restrictions and the poor quality of raw materials in perfumery.

Its opening is predominantly green. Despite being a yellow flower, I always smelled some green floral quality out of mimosa. It fulfills the intensity of the bouquet and slowly gives room to the other notes. I can feel the sourness of mandarin and the mellowness of "water fruits" (melon, watermelon). I can smell notes of freesia, cyclamen, ylang-ylang and heliotrope, completing the floral heart, although these notes can not totally express themselves. It is a complex scent, and sometimes I can feel one note, sometimes other, but in a wider sense it is a very well balanced concoction. During the drydown, the sharpness of the green opening, and the density of the floral heart are lost and gradually some softness and comfort are provided by sandalwood, jasmine and amber.
Some softness and comfort, because this fragrance is actually strong, mature and resolute, as a woman who knows exactly what she wants and how to achieve it.

This fragrance is astonishing and will certainly be noticed by those around. They can be pleased or distressed, but not indifferent.
In my opinion it adapts better to mild temperatures of autumn or spring, with great sillage and longevity of eight hours on my skin.

Volupté, you made your call:
"Don't you know girl..., you'll be a woman soon. Please ... come, take my hand. "
I took your hand and you revealed yourself to me, and...you disclosed myself to feminine vehemence and sensuousness!

pretty mini collector

I don't know what that beginning note is, but whatever it is, don't let it turn you off. Once the notes start developing, it begins to smell very much like Tresor, except brighter. It's almost like burning incense on the beach. I wish I could describe it better.

The lasting power is decent and the sillage is huge, at least in the beginning. I would suggest applying this in an open area because that opening note is loud.

justaname

The ones who think it has a bad smelling or fishy edge, should perhaps give it another chance explicitly on clothing, whithout spilling anything on the skin. I also had mixed feelings about this perfume, as it did give me a kind of ammoniak smell as I tried it on the skin, other than that I loved it. But on my clothes this dirty smell does not come out!!

kugkng

The base part reminds me a lot to Tresor

JaxTheMinx

I've just blind-bought a 100ml EDP which was on special. I did so based on reviews here and I do hope it will invoke the same pleasant memories of when my mom used to wear it (not that I can put my finger on what it was like!) I have dry skin so prefer a more robust fragrance that will last. I will report back once it arrives from the UK!
UPDATE: So my 100ml bottle has only dipped a wee bit since I used some of the juice to make scent for our home! I get why people say it reminds of Tresor. I like Tresor and currently Tresor in Love (now discontinued!) quite often. I want to love Volupte but other than invoke childhood memories, the tonka bean blows me away. If any of my tonka bean fragrances come into contact with my clothes when I apply them, I'm nausious midway through the day. Tonka takes a funny turn on the dry down which reminds me of Nestum infant cereals. Bleh. I've quite a few fragrances full of tonka bean - maybe this was just one too many. Incidentally, my Madame Rochas contains tonka but I cannot smell it at all. It must be the tiniest touch of tonka which was just expertly blended.

Schurrles

The first thing I'm going to say is God bless Fragrantica.com reviewers. I can safely conclude that amidst the mixed opinions lies the most intelligent, constructive voices.

A lover of Oscar (the original) by Oscar de la renta, I proceeded to purchase Volupte based on reviews here. Am I disappointed? Absolutely not.

On first spray of Volupte on my left wrist, I went "Dear Lord, what have I gotten myself into? eeek". Then I sprayed So de la renta on my right wrist. Had my sister smell both wrists and she picked the right wrist as the better smelling.

But then 10-15 mins passed and the most beautiful thing happened. Volupte made sure I kept raising my left wrist to my nose as I couldn't resist the lovely aroma coming from that wrist. It was so so powdery.

Went back to my sister to smell both wrists again and guess what? she picked the left wrist. Haha, told her that was the rejected stone now becoming the chief cornerstone.

Bottom line, I love the dry down so well this might just become my signature scent. I need to add that I sprayed this at night when it was warm and not hot. I'll have to try this in an entirely diff climate.

Don't let the EDT fool you. It lasts longer than some EDP I've used.

VanillaTabbyCat1963

I totally agree with Mereltje's observation concerning fragrances that don't work well with our chemistry. Sometimes waiting and trying them again in warmer weather can give us a whole new perspective.

Volupte is a perfect example of this. In the winter it is meek and mild and longevity is nonexistent. But try it on a hot spring day as I did a couple weeks ago, and my opinion has taken a 360.

Volupte becomes sultry and sweet, with a powdery trail that builds through the drydown. It's as comforting and warm as summertime around your shoulders. Reminds me of days around the 4th of July spent in and out of swimming pools, eating fruit salad and inhaling the flowers blooming everywhere!

To think I had listed Volupte on EBAY back in early spring!

mabelcruet

I wore this years ago when it first came out, and recently got myself a sample size to review it again. It's as lovely as I remembered-the top notes remind me of a sweet called Parma Violets. Initially it is sweet and fruity-the heliotrope comes through strongly with a sweet almond and vanilla note. Despite the mandarin there is no citrus note-its all smooth and rounded rather than sharp.

It settles down to a warm, slightly spicy sandalwood. The spice of carnation in this is understated, but this works with the fruity melon, with the melon softening the spice, and the spice stopping the melon from being too sweet. This is a very feminine fragrance without being girly. I think its more suited to Winter, as it has a warmth to it, and a slight powdery note rather than a refreshing zingyness. Its a cosy fragrance to me-despite being a very distinctive fragrance, the sillage is minimal (unless its my skin eating it up!). Definitely a scent for wearing on a date.

lirael00

This is what yellow flowers should smell. It's more of a daytime perfume and I've already received a lot of compliments (the last one came from bunch of kids who were visiting a theater where I work and then one said 'mmmmm this lady smells so nice, can we wait here till the start of the show, you're perfume is amazing!' I know it'a child's opinion, but that's why I trust it even more. The reason the kids like it, it's because this perfume smells like'everything's gonna be alright, trust me!' I think it's perfect if you wear it in a fall or spring, and it lasts long too, plus sillage is great. It's very 80's type of a perfume, but that's only plus in my book.

katyas

I was just given this perfume as a gift and had no idea what it would smell like, so I was going in blind. The opening notes are lovely, sweet and sort of juicy. I usually can't wear perfumes with jasmine, but this one blends it in so well with the other scents that it works for me fine. I do wish it lasted a bit longer.

mereltje

At first I did not like it; sharp bitter notes came into my nose. I tried it many times because I had this one for my birthday from my two lovely kids.
And now it gets spring in Holland and I tried it again and guess what? I LIKE IT! In spring it smells completely different to my nose; mimosa, melon, fresh and delightfull. I'm SO happy I like it now, because it has a special vallue to me(because of my kids)
Maby for other Fragrantica's : If it isn't love at the first sniff, give it some time. Maby it doesn't smell nice to you in summer, it maby will in winter/spring.

joan100

When I first sprayed this I got some mimose mixed with fresh melon and freesia. 3 hours later the heliotrope carnation and ylang ylang dominated and reminded me of famous scents such as Eternity by CK and Tresor by Lancome. It has a typical late 80s/early 90s fragrance ideal for women over the age of 30.

rosembloom

I have loved Volupté by Oscar de la Renta for years, digging that fresh yet compote like pear note. I have found it once more in Wild Pears by Montale and find they layer superbly with each other. I am enjoying both though Volupté seems to last much longer on me. This is the scent of fruity riches and musky fruitness. It reminds me also of Fruit of the Musk a bit and I am simply loving this as our Winter slowly merges into Spring. It starts off like a blast of syrupy fruit ( Fancy like) then gives off layer upon layer of sweet , well blended and luxurious layers . A very gourmand floral I shall have in my wardrobe for as long as it exists. Many compliments, the sophistication of Wild Pears and an incredible lasting power and sillage. Very Sophia G! I recommend it to all fruity gourmand lovers wishing for rich notes and high quality floral with many facets!

Jerine123

I had this scent years ago and was so happy to find it again. As mentioned, it is a powerful scent and has the sophistication and staying power of a Tresor but I find this sharper and greener. The sharpness is not offensive to my nose and quickly softens and lingers. Such a complex fragrance that evolves over time and does not disappear!

Passionflower

I smelled this fragrance just this morning and it immediately made me wonder if it had been made by Sophia Grosjman because it reminded me very much of two other very similar fragrances which have been made by Ms. Grosjman. The more I smelled it, the more Volupte seemed just like Eternity by Calvin Klein and Sun, moon stars by Karl Lagerfeld. So the first thing I did when I got behind a computer, was to check on Fragrantica who invented Volupte. And low and behold, I was right! I love all three scents, but it does make me wonder what the other creations by Sophia Grosjman smell like, and also, if there are more that smell like the three I mentioned. I find this very weird, but I'm sure more people must have noticed the similarity. She's also created Yvresse for Yves Saint Laurent, a fragrance I also love, which smells quite different from Volupte.

bellamson

I used to use Volupte for approximately 20 years and only this because it was the most successful scent I ever used. People constantly came up to me asking me for the name of it, regardless of whether I was at home in the cold or abroad in sweltering hot climate. Both men and women liked it, and young and older and I loved it of course. I think I just got lucky and it suited my body chemistry perfectly-I found the one. Then I was told they were not making it anymore.I moved on trying to find another scent I love 100%.

rhaineclayton

I saw this today for $25 and after spraying it on my hand I almost bought it straight away. The top notes are gorgeously fruity! Thankfully, I decided to wander for a bit to see how it settled. I have to say "BLEH!". The base is too something - sharp, sour, tart. Such a shame because the top notes are devine!
Update: I was a bit hard on this one. Yes it does have that harsh note but it softens down. And there is a similarity to Tresor which I used to love. Bought it.

m_mtz40

This is very powdery & floral but a bit too powdery for my olive complexion perhaps. Not picking up any of the sweet notes ppl mention at all mostly powdery floral is all i get. To my liking it would need to be less powder and more floral/sweet which it almost is but just not enough for me to keep. I really don't enjoy powdery scents at all plus I don't enjoy yellow florals either. But some ppl do. Swapped this out already..
A better choice cuz it's a bit sweeter is BIJAN STYLE. It's what I wish this would have been.

Talia

OMG, I was so attracted by the literature reviews, but when I meet this creature I was terrified.
I made 2 conclusions: The first is never trust in the good taste of the very clever woman, they can imagine something just opposite to the reality. This “masterpiece” is not useful, it could kill you. It is old, cheap, vulgar and nuclear strong.
And the second conclusion is that the problem with the old school perfumes is that they have to come not in a spray, but as a miniature, to dab a micro molecule. Maybe the problem is they are ultra potent.

arzacu

My mother used to wear this one.
I just get the last spray to test it on my wrist.

Very green fragrance, sweet flowers and a powdery effect on skin.. has a retro elegant vibe.

Great for winter I think... in my opinion would be cloying in summer... but it's good, it's a nice fragrance, has all the 90's perfume style.. happy childhood memories with my mommy wearing it :)

TanteSimone

Hands down one of the most intoxicating fragrances I have smelled--ever. This isn't shy. It isn't for the meek. I must say that it is Tresor's bubblier, less serious sister but is equally sensual.

This and Tresor differ in the way their colors differ. Tresor has more peach and is drier and rosier. Volupte has more fizz, is richer, sweeter, and fruitier (not in today's current standard of sweet, however). Think juicy and plump peaches and apricots, dewy roses, and some wooden elements thrown in, also some leaves. It smells more like a countryside backyard with wild flowers and fruits than a garden full of flowers.

It might be a little heavy for some, especially on the first blast but it settles beautifully and mingles with the skin after a few minutes. I am lucky my skin loves this kind of blend.

I don't have kids yet, but this may be one of the fragrances I want them to remember me by. This and Anais Anais and Oscar.

Radchick

This scent perplexes me. It is beyond green. I find it to be woody, green, bitter, but not mossy, with strong mimosa and a hint of melon. The opening blast is full of florals but dissipates literally within seconds, so very easy to miss. The middle phase is strong, almost too much, but intriguing enough to make me find patience to wait for the drydown. It doesn't change very much after that, perhaps becoming a bit softer overall. This smells like nothing else I own. I am not normally drawn to these scents but this one keeps me interested because its so off the beaten path for me.

roseessence

On me this is warm and floral softening down to gentle melon and vanilla. I adore this perfume and can't believe I had never discovered it. I thought it would be too overwhelming but my chemistry mixes with Volupte to create a delightful combination. Its longevity is amazing - 12 hours after the initial spray I still retained its gorgeous floral warmth. I will definitely add this my favourites list.

blacktaffeta

Wow! The two reviews below this couldn't be more different. That sounds like the mark of an interesting fragrance - and so it proves to be.

I'm currently trying to get my head round the "Yellow flower / white flower" thing. White flowers are - jasmine, lily, tuberose, lily of the valley and so forth ... yellow flowers are - mimosa. linden, narcissus, ylang-ylang, etc. As I understand it.

So this is a blend of white and yellow, actually. Yellow flower fragrances seem on the whole to attract fewer fans than white flowered ones. Perhaps the flowers themselves are more distinct from one another, or blend less well together?

Incidentally I like the colour scheme here - the juice is very yellow and the cap (though plastic and ill-fitting, which isn't ideal) is very green. Kind of sets you up for what is to come.

Anyway I digress. Volupte is an absolute powerhouse in what seems increasingly to be called "the 80s style". The opening is a big blast of various things - I see other people have detected melon, violet, lily of the valley, carnation and all sorts.

Once this passes the mimosa comes to the fore and works its usual softening effects. This counterbalances an ongoing slight bitterness (the narcissus perhaps?) in what I find to be a most interesting and exciting way. Wafts of fragrance hit my nose as I move and I feel myself to be sophisticated, intriguing and a little exotic.

Sillage and longevity are great, and the drydown continues in a similar way but more muted. Nothing stands out particularly for me but perhaps the incense contributes a mysterious effect.

The thing is, they REALLY don't make then like this any more outside niche houses. This was what sophisticated women used to smell like as a matter of course. They used fragrances that were bitter, smokey, leathery, powdery, green and so forth, because they were interesting and beautiful and there wasn't a one-size-fits-all approach to perfume.

Now your choices, even as a mature woman, are - do you want to smell sweet and fruity, or sweet and floral? Unless you are very avant-garde of course, in which case you may put on something by Tauer or Lutens and smell - well, like this perhaps.

Anyway, thank goodness for the internet, which allows anyone to find lost gems like this for a song on ebay and then read all about them here on Fragrantica. Three cheers!

I love Volupte. It couldn't be my signature because there's just too much going on and I can't see myself in it while shopping at the supermarket. Nevertheless if you want your fragrance to be interesting, exciting and different, give it a try.

mhubbard

Stinking mess combination of everything that's bad about several different categories of perfume. Green but not fresh, flowery but not pretty, unusual but not unique, just a yucky, yucky strong perfume that gives perfumes a bad name. The offending note is probably gardenia. My opinion, this is the worst perfume I have ever smelled. Worse than Splendour and Dazzling Silver,if you can believe it. I know it's a stretch.

LadyRogue

From the first sniff Volupte and I are in love...It's serious, mutual and it will last...I know.

A gorgeous peach note mixed with a warm vanilla and an aura of amber is the first thing that enchants me...It's very yummy! Think Pêche Melba with plump juicy peaches and a rich vanilla ice-cream. *YUM!* Yet it's not a gourmand -I am wearing food- feeling, but rather a yummy floriental.
Right after this grand opening the heliotrope and mimosa give it a powdery vibe, yet the fruity notes balance the powdery ones out, Volupte is neither too sweet or too powdery - it's just right.

The middle stage reveals a mysterious ylang-ylang and freesia mixed with an earthy sandalwood....The dry-down is a soft sweet (NOT cloying!) oriental that is absolutely stunning!

I was always told that Volupte is a 'clone' of Tresor - well, Tresor and my skin don't like each other and as a result I have always ignored Volupte. The fact that Sophia Grosjman made both scents only enhanced my belief that they were most likely too identical. Lucky me that I finally tested it and immediately bought a 100ML bottle! It's that stunning on mu skin. Volupte will have a permanent place in my collection. It fills the room and it keeps evolving from one gorgeous stage to another into to a magical dry down, I only regret not have discovered this one sooner. I absolutely love it!

The lesson in this is: Even if it's a supposed to be a clone of something that doesn't work with your chemistry and made by the same nose...TEST it on your skin! You might miss out on something that was always there waiting for you to discover it. Every time I wear it I get stopped by people asking me what that gorgeous scent is. It's a child of the 90s and not many people use it..in fact I've never smelled it on anybody else. Wonderful! I love smelling divine and unique for a fraction of the price of todays niche & designer scents, what more can I ask for? ; )

Silage is: A divine warm and fresh, slightly sweet floriental - Longevity is: 10 plus hours in which it will reveal an amazing dry down. A MUST try! I can only recommend it. Good luck! : )

**Members Bobo1 & Action are right: The notes listed above are wrong...I can clearly smell a gorgeous juicy peach.

icecube

Starts in a yellow field of mimose.
Balmy or powdery notes follows right after.
After the balmyness calms down more flowers are coming true - a full flowerbouquet.
Sweet vanilla mingels into the flowers and now moore fruits apperas.
It ends wiht a georgeouse plumnote that stays on for a long time (can swear it is plum) - well I love plum so it is all god.

Robih

WOW! An armload of flowers, full and generous, flowing into a prolonged amber & patchouli drydown...
My new favourite for day wear.
Best in Fall and Winter, a bit too heavy for hot weather.

rosembloom

This is my go to scent for early Spring, while there is still a chill to the air and the buds are blooming despite the snow on the ground, here in Canada. I am not quite certain if these are the true notes to Volupté, remembering reading about violets, peach, the absence of carnation and ylang ylant.. shall confirm). But notes in themselves indicate little to me: the harmony is this fragrance is Pastoral and reminds me of fresh pears, dewy violets, green yet balmy notes of cedar . I cannot explain how this sophisticatedly fresh, smooth and vibrant scent makes me 'high'. Like the first walk in the forest when the snow melts. It's fruity ambery drydown is what I love most about it. Great sillage and longevity : apply with a light hand.

logicmuppet

It is dismal outside today, raining and chilly. Also, we just switched to daylight savings time, so even I am a little sleepy and slow this morning. Volupte is filling the bill for something bright and cheerful but not "neon." I don't usually like mimosa or melon, and this goes on with both of those and a strange "perfumey" sweetness that seems somewhat harsh. But in about 30 minutes or so, it turns spicier, but still soft and fruity sweet. This has been growing on me for a few days now, and it's perfect for a day like today.

djuzz.becuzz

I cannot really make up my mind about this scent. It makes me lift up my wrist to my nose over and over again to decide whether I like it or not. On first spritz I would have to say I don't like it, it is a bit too sour for my liking. Then after about 20 minutes it settles down to a slightly spicy, green, woodsy floral which actually might be nice to wear in early spring when the days are still a little chilly, yet sunny.
Maybe a scent that can grow on me as it did with Givenchy's Amarige which I also had a hate/love affair with in the beginning, but the more I smelled it... the more I loved it! However... I am pretty sure that for me Amarige will win over this ''voluptuous'' battle!

**Summer_Forever**

Agree with Robbie, it is a warm and nectar-like fragrance. Expensive and potent smelling so may be best avoided by the teenybopper crowd. Although my German penpal's mother thought this would be a great gift for me back in my teens.. and I have to say, I wholeheartedly agreed!

PrinceRobbie

I have to agree with nellyrlight, this is a beautiful fragrance. It's a rather warm scent, perfect for an evening out. I do imagine this floating from the skin of an older classy lady. Not really one for the younger crowd! But hey, I'm 24 and I will wear it on the regular.
It only lasts for a moderate amount of time. Not enough for me but certainly reasonable.
The Melon and Mimose really shine through and I think the warmth shows because of the Sandalwood and Incense. Overall, it's just pleasant for the senses!

nellyrlight

For the ladies --who seem to be such experts-- (I really AM shocked..I myself was trained in Holistic Aromatherapy and I cannot believe how deep the knowledge in some of you LOL) are so harsh..don't be..this is just a perfume for G's sake! LOL! And Volupte does not really deserve those unbelievably hard critics..It is very unique and beautiful scent..LOVE it.

celebrity89

75% Tresor, 25% Paris. Why do perfumers need a "nose" when developing fragrances that they are just copying?

jedrzejowskia

Another blind buy but I remember this being worn by a friend in ballet class.

Opening is harsh, I actually do not know what it smells of. A floral aldehydic mess I think. To be honest the first ten minutes are rank.
I don't know what it is with me and top notes but I hate most of them, apart from very very few exceptions.
10 or 15 minutes in the smell is a bit citrusy and greener.
I agree it smells a little bit like Tresor in the late second stage. Tresor with a mix of lime but warm if that makes sense. It's nice but I don't think it's for winter time. I will leave this one for spring and perhaps update my review.
I paid 22eur for 50ml. The bottle is very, very pretty, a little bit Boucheron-style. The green cap is lovely!
Not such a bad buy :-)
3.5/5 for now.

Edit. I gave this away.
I couldn't do with the top notes, they made me sick to the stomach :-(

roseau

Lovely scent, with an incredibly blissful drydown, not green nor sweet, almost powdery indeed. Am I the only one who notices a strong resemblance of Volupté with "La Martina" Mujer? A Latino, adventurous and sensual vibe, that talks of passion and strong feelings. Mmmmhh...

Fizzy

For me it smells like Spellbound, but lighter, spicier (greener).

renneyg007

This has one of the most gorgeous dry downs ever.

Beeb26

The opening smells like Eternity and Tresor mixed together. After that it becomes more and more Tresor and less Eternity. I really like Tresor, so this a great scent for me and much more affordable!

Action

And this perfume is not à floral green perfume at all! It is an oriental sweet perfume.

Action

Member Bobo listed the right notes: it is very much likje THE Tresor fragrance family, so the most important notes Rose, peach, abricot etc are missing.

Action

For lovers of Tresor , if you woud wish it to be a bit better priced, go for Volupte!
À true sister from the Same nose!

Małgoś

I finally got Volupte... and had mixed feelings in the beginning and for the next couple of hours. It starts with strong flower notes - really powerful, to the point of giving me a slight headache. It was hard for me to detect any fruitiness in it, although I was able to smell neroli and maybe peach, and freesia. But the flowers in the beginning are a bit overpowering.
Then in the middle notes it is mostly carnation, if I am not mistaken, that takes over. But then the scent develops, and after a while I can detect mimosa and ylang-ylang. I was not sure in the beginning whether I got it right - but it is - the prevailing note to me, from that moment on, is ylang-ylang.
What a joy it is to wear! The perfume then evolves to become a smooth, gorgeous, balmy veil. It is still mostly ylang-ylang that prevails - that's how it reacts with my skin - later on I could detect the patchouli, as well, and vanilla. It ends on a woodsy tone, while still retaining that balsamic quality. And ylang-ylang rules. What an olfactory delight.
Longevity could be better though - around 5 hours on my skin. But as I will be 'testing' it in the days to come, I may come back with an update.
For the time being, I love this perfume - it makes me feel really good.

Lumiere

This year it was my birthday scent. My daughter commented:what smells so beautiful? I said, that bottle, with green top. She said, Oh, It's definitely so much interesting than I first though it would be. Champaigne and Celebration-that's what I had in my mind. So feminine, sparkling and combines perfectly with natural skin aroma.

bobo1

The notes are:
Bergamote, Pêche, Abricot, Violette, Iris, Rose, Muguet, Héliotrope, Cedre Atlas, Santal, Benjoin, Feve Tonka

Some time ago the listed notes were correct. Not now. And not only for Volupté.

So, IdaLupino, you are perfectly right.

Green floral, indeed, considering the blast of violet leaf in the opening. It smells slightly oily to me. Plushy and smooth.

EDIT: yeas later and still the wrong list of notes

ecofreak2001

Just got a full tester for $3 at a local pharmacy. WOW! what a bargain! AND IT'S OSCAR DE LA RENTA! Tried it; At first a bitter green, fruity scent just hits you in the face; at time passes, an elegant, classic flowery scent stays with you for a while. It's a strong scent, perfect for evening ware. Don't love it, but can't say I don't like it either.

reborn

it smell very violletly,i think it is from the heliotrope. The aroma is velvety ,smooth, powdery violets with liiitle bit carnation and melon.very very feminine and cozy

I'm not a fan of any particular fragrances group.
I want to say, I love them all. I simply wear a perfume which I like the most at the current day and the result is ... smells always nice on me. This is my recipe for choosing the right scent for any occasion. To make this recipe work, the only condition is to have enough of different perfumes and to know them very well ... and than imagine which is currently the most propriate. That's how I coose what to put on.

Volupte is rich and warm perfume, and I love it sooooo much.
What a perfume! Amazing powdery-incense bitter-sweet mandarin-melon juice. It's soft and warm, literally gently caresses my nose.....mmmmmmmm. The ingredients that make up this fragrance - well I can not pick up every single, but for my taste they make up a wonderful bitter-sweet gem.....great work.

I agree, Volupte could be a relative of Kashaya-Kenzo, but deeper, with bold carnation note. Yes, they do have the same mother - Madame Sophia Grojsman.

Update of my reiew:
Wearing Volupte over past several days I realised that it has lot in common with Lancome Tresor.... both contain kind of rich sweetness that fills my nose up to the sinuses. And Tresor is a child of Mme. Grojsman, as well. Nice!

I keep coming back to this lovely little gem.
I love the story from the sharp fruits through the floral centre and the sexy incense and wood finish.
Not a punchy, "here I am" perfume but very long lasting on my skin.

On my skin this smells of rancid fruits and turns into a vase of wilted flowers that is not really to my taste.

My first instinct was the say this smelled like soap. Not a bad one, but a sweet soap. The melons and florals are like champagne. Sharp at the first taste, tangy and sweet before the throat and finally leaving one feeling pleasant instead of drowned in heady florals.

P for Passable.

Have not worn this in 15 years, but remember thinking it smells like a bottle of bubbles (the kind kids blow with a wand). Somehow the smell seems to go up into the sinuses and stay there.

Lumiere

Summer day, possibly early June, Sunday afternoon. Table is set, food is ready, we are waiting for the guests...I am going outside to check if anyone is on their way already. It's warm and humid, and subtle wind wiffs aromas of lush blooming flowers, jasmine, konvlaija and ozon filled air. It may rain soon. One can smell freshly cooked by Mum stewed pear and peach fruit/compote. Finally guests arrive, with the boucket of heavenly pink peonies...Hugs, warmth, bubbling champaigne pored in the glasses, clinking them with the toasts...I am going outside again-rain has started, but who cares-we have this warm summer party inside. Maybe, if I wear this fragrance, I can bring back this happy times...Wondeful scent, well-rounded and delicate, telling the story, definitely classic and timeless.

Well, finally I willingly let Volupté run me over.

After the first violent blast, which I now happily endure, one gets rewarded with a generous, multi-layered green heart.
With two mini's already in my cabinet, a bottle of edt, bodycream and yet another miniature ordered and on their way, I consider myself in a fine state to embrace the new year.

Gorgeous bottle. From the look of the notes it must smell great too!

I remember years ago when I was a teenager, smelling Volupte for the first time, and thinking it was so unusual and different from any perfume I'd smelled before. It starts out fairly strong, to my nose a violet honeydew melon fragrance. Violet and melon - an unlikely but surprisingly pleasing combination! Violet is not even listed as a note, so maybe it's actually the mimosa. Sweet, sophisticated...then it finishes even more surprisingly with amber in the drydown. The opening is too strong for my taste nowadays (smells like an '80's scent though it was launched in '92), but the drydown is delightful - soft, rich and feminine. Will always enjoy having this one in my collection. It's created by Sophia Grojsman, and I'm a fan! She also created Tresor and YSL Paris, and Volupte kinda reminds me of a cross between the two.

OK, Sophia Grojsman gets another fruity floral hit under another designer label. It resembled Tresor nearly note for note. Is this a bad thing? Not really. Its just not really creative.

Yes, its voluptuous, sensual and rich. Original? Not really.

I have been wearing this on and off for 10 years. I agree that lately it is smelling more green and less floral. Still love it though. Still smells beautiful once it comes down.

I have worn this on and off for about 18 years. Recently it smells more green to me and less floral than I remembered it. I don't like it as much as I used to. My tastes are changing in my old age! Hopefully Fragrantica can help me find something that suits me now. :)

**update...I tried this again and I think I do like it. I agree with others that it is terrible for the first 20 minutes. But after that it does work with my chemistry pretty well. And I also agree with others that it does seem dated...but I still like it because it's interesting...not a candy-sweet celebrity fragrance. :)
