Songes by Goutal is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Songes was launched in 2006. Songes was created by Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal.

Songes or Dreams is a romantic fragrant poem, rich and soft fragrance based on luminous jasmine note. The heart is ruled by woodsy powdery accords, while the base is composed of creamy French vanilla notes and beautiful white flowers.

The fragrance is very romantic, a bit dreamy; jasmine is unobtrusively dominating the charming powdery cloud of flowers and vanilla.

The composition includes the notes of Frangipani and Tiare flowers, jasmine Sambac absolute, ylang-ylang and French vanilla. It was created in 2005 by Isabelle Doyen.

Beside in classical Annick Goutal bottles this fragrance is available in a festive \'Moon Bottle\'. The top in a shape of moon has replaced the kissing butterflies. The idea for the two kissing butterflies Annick Goutal got when she saw a similar theme bottle from 1925.

Songes EDT is on par with Ylang Ylang Nose Be by Perris Monte Carlo as the best Ylang Ylang fragrance from my collection! Two absolutely memorable perfumes for this scent profile!

A couple of summers ago I fell hard in love with the note of ylang ylang. I am not quite sure if I recovered because to my nose, there’s no flower that smells more divine and heavenly than ylang ylang. Lilacs included in this comparison.

It was one of Demi Rawling’s videos where she was talking about Perris Monte Carlo’s scent what made me want to get my nose on perfumes featuring heavily this tropical flower.

Songes was a very happy discovery, blind buy to be more precise, when an online retailer decided to reduce all Goutal’s perfumes for half off on their website. The rest is history, I cannot explain in words how beautiful this perfume is!

As soon as I sprayed it on my skin I was instantly hooked on Songes. The ylang ylang note is paired here with another loves of mine, frangipani and tiare flower. A dream come true for tropical floral lovers. The jasmine note is not a stand out note in Songes. But the creamy, sweet, gourmand vanilla is perfectly blended with the flowers and creates one of the most intoxicating and addictive tropical florals scents I’ve smelled in my entire existence!

If only I would have known how gorgeous Songes EDT is, I would have bought three bottles for half price off to have it for the rest of my life!

For an EDT it’s not a bad performing scent. Projects strong for the first hour and last for days on clothing!

I have the older packaging. I wanted to love this so badly, but I just can't. I get so much of the jasmine and so little of the other florals. It's just a slightly dated, lotiony, vanillic jasmine on my skin. Still hoping I'll come around and get to see it's beauty.

This smells delicious and tropical to me without that coconut note I absolutely love and adore this fragrance took me ages to track another bottle and found that the goutal website delivers to the uk and has this fragrance still this fragrance is a stunner and I have never smelled anything similar to it it’s just delicious 🤤

There's something dirty at the opening. Stinky. However, the perfume dries down to a scent of clean laundry after maybe half an hour. I'm not understanding the hype. IMO there are better white florals and better jasmines out there.

MsFCAS

This is an old-school perfumey perfume. I think it's the ylang. It's lovely in a sort of heavier way than current styles. For me, this will be a date night type scent. I'm a huge fan of pretty much everything Goutal releases so I'm glad to have this one in my wardrobe, even if I don't find it as everyday-wearable as my favorites.

Moonshine_Strawberries

If you’re looking for a tropical flower scent without coconut, this would be my pick - though kind of by default. I like that in this I can finally get a sense of what tropical flowers smell like without being buried under standard white florals or distracting coconut. That being said, it’s a bit flat. I wish I could find a tropical flower dominated scent that’s balanced with some strong basenotes and a just slightly perceptible citrus. I definitely like Songes better than NR Ambree though.

I’d be happy to pass along my sample for just the cost of shipping or work out a deal for a batch of different samples.

I smell like I just dusted myself with tropical flower powder. There is an effervescent quality to the fragrance that lifts it off of my skin and diperses the powder. It keeps the florals nicely tucked so that it never becomes cloying. I notice the spices mostly in the opening. I don’t notice them much in the drydown as the florals occupy most of my attention. It is all held together with a beautiful creamy vanilla. I love Songes EDT. I love wearing it in the spring and summer. I couldn't say which flower dominates. It is all so beautifully blended. It is a tropical floral without any hint of coconut or sunscreen. The longevity is great for an EDT and lasts for over four hours on my skin. The production date on my first bottle is 2019. I’ve already purchased my back up bottle. I don’t want to be without it.

blkleather_redlace

I unfortunately ended up with EdT instead of EdP and I'm not sure how to feel about this fragrance. I like the unexpected cumin note. Some people will find it gross, but it's very sexy to me, and after this perfume has dried down sufficiently, it's fine. Unfortunately, that takes hours or days. What I can't really get behind here is a strange synthetic plasticky note. It's a sickly sweet plastic smell. I get a very nice quality jasmine, but something underneath is just not working. In general this perfume is too sweet for me. Somehow it's just overwhelming. Maybe it's too warm and humid where I live trying to test this. Maybe you need to barely apply it, but even a single spray is too intense. I'm not usually one to complain about a fragrance being strong, but I guess something here is just too solid and cloying for me. Maybe my bottle is off. It is an older bottle, not like the one pictured here. I had read that the EdT is more floral and "green" or "fresh," but there is absolutely nothing fresh or green here. It's like the most decadent dessert ever, very dense. I can't imagine how much richer the EdP must be.

thehanna

I am so confused by this. I really love it but I never like straightforward heavier feminine florals like this. This has a very subtlecumin spice base that gives the vanilla and floral a dry warmth. I would say this is a Floral Amber more than a white flower scent as it does not have the sharpness of many WF and the yellow flower note is strong. Very rich creamy creamy floral with soft powdery amber base. Surprisingly, light enough for warm weather and not overly sweet but not a casual scent. Mature?? Not sure

moma4faith

Yet another heartbreak. My original bottle was purchased by Annick Goutal. Now, they have changed the website to Goutal Paris. They have changed the bottles. They have changed the descriptions. Before, the descriptions were long and detailed, almost poetic, now it is just a short retail blurb, not a mention of Annick Goutal, has she been scrubbed from the website? The beloved original scent has been lost forever. The original Songes was the stuff of lovely dreams, just as the name implies. It lasted hours, and even longer on some fabrics. To me, notes in the opening through to the dry down depended on how close the nose is to the fragrance. The jasmine might have called to you from afar, but when you approach, the frangipani is what you find up close, and a hint of vanilla, and on and on, warm and sometimes heady. At times, it is just a little too much for the wearer, but to the person experiencing it on someone else, it is enticing and alluring, magical. At least, that is how my man describes it. Each time your olfactory ponders, you find as many questions as answers. It is truly dreamlike, always fleeting, changing, whispering. But now, what is the pale juice in this redesigned bottle? Is it the same? I sincerely doubt it. There is no such thing as a signature scent, unless you buy a hundred bottles at the same time, and guard them for life. Reformulations make people buy new perfumes. They don't want us to have loyalty to one scent. So, they reformulate and force us to buy a dupe of the scent, or something "close", something "new". They've taken an art form and turned into a quick turnover profit. I will enjoy the rest of my bottle. I will search for original bottles. I will mourn when it is gone.

Pia20

Very floral and sweet fragrance, beautifully made. The frangipani and jasmine are so well blended, it smells like a really pretty bouquet. This is the type of perfume you use when you're dressed to the nines. Long lasting and amazing sillage, it's a worthwhile purchase.

Air of Grace

When I smelt this on a testing paper , it was a beautiful floral that I was so excited to try on my skin.

Opposite effect on my skin , such intense , animalic florals that speaks to me of mature ladies that overspray and could be suffocating .

I blind bought Annick Goutal’s in Martin Orage and Gardenia and didn’t like the perfumes at all.

Maybe it’s my skin but they all seem to have the decaying flowers scent happening and it’s projection is enormous !

I’ll steer clear away from this perfume house from now on .

buster21

I have an older bottle formulation if anyone is interested. NIB. I was looking for a perfume similar to vintage Chantecaille Frangipane and unfortunately this is not it for me.
Edit-sold it and no more blind buying! Yeah right.

crea11

This is definitely the most expensive smelling fragrance in my collection. The main note to me is the frangipani, but with the ylang ylang it becomes sweet and soooo cozy. Mind you this is not sweet in an edible, gourmand way. Rather it is sweet in a warm, floral way.

However, despite feeling warmth from this scent this is a nighttime fragrance to me, like a warm night at a Hawaiian beachside bungalow with the windows open to the wonderful flowers outside.

I think the name Songes is so appropriate for this because this scent is hazy and dreamlike!

Konga5000

So they updated all the bottles and listings ? So all the old reviews below- are for the older formulas ? OK.......

foxy_minxy

Just. Wow. This is the perfect tropical floral! No faffing about with coconuts and sunscreens and pina coladas. This one means business. Solar frangipani, ylang ylang, jasmine and indoles galore. Don't let the indoles scare you away! They are kept entirely classy. They simply give the perfume a bold, old-school aura. I can see the resemblance with Terracotta, but whereas Terracotta is cute, this one is glamorous. If you want to be an exotic boss b*tch, then you need this in your life.

lovesick

daffodil glowing under flares of sol, warm sunlight parted by creamy cumulus. wading through whitewater christening, ivory bulbs dotting hair. "what does it matter? all is grace," said bresson honoring simone weil, uttered in harmony with more than just faithful flowers. the sweetness of skin, purity of desire, and softness of grazia. all is fine in the morning.

living up to its name, songes is dreaminess and absolution in a bottle. i want to swim in it, wafting through gentle golden waters. elegant milky sweetness! ah, the flower petals present in songes are so delectably creamy, as soft as clouds and as smooth as skin. it is subtly sweet; demure and delicate, not a gaudy gourmand!
all petals, no stems—green is nowhere to be found! warm hues of pastel yellow reverberate throughout, opening with an indolic spark and subtle spicy earthiness which aids in creating the wonderful warm fullness of the scent. what comes to dominate is a peachy frangipani flabellum, fanning lilies and star jasmine unfurling under warm sunlight.. bright ylang-ylang begins to sparkle, interlocked in a sweet tryst with vanilla, but far from cloying, remaining tethered by a powdery note reminiscent of mimosa. tiare in the base provides the smoothest bed for these pretty petals to fall into, creating an illusion of a coconut or whipped cream accord, making me wonder if any tuberose is hiding in this composition..

velvety, the scent feels like a second skin. home never smelled like a cinnamon christmas candle to me—home is warm white petals hugging me all around, complex in their range of piety to carnality, hot southern humidity curling locks of hair and sapping nectar from stamens. songes is perfectly floral and saccharine, a lovely expressionist painting of a garden.

It smells like one delicious, sweet beautiful flower. I don't know which one, some perfect dream made of tiara, jasmine and frangipani. One perfect flower. A simple and beautiful perfume.

EDIT: I remembered what a flower reminded me of! On that little pink carnation, short and tiny. Beautiful, creamy, fairytale. Yes !!! it's that perfect scent :)))) So, so, so natural, one perfect flower!

QueenieIrenie

Not sure what happened. Initially, I LOVED Songes EDT so much I hunted down the EDP. Then, I started to notice the cumin note more, which is for some reason not listed on Fragrantica, and now it is overpowering the gorgeous notes that ARE listed. Here are the notes according to the official Goutal website: Frangipani flower, Tiare flower, Sambac Jasmine, Ylang-ylang absolute, Bourbon Vanilla over-absolute, Benzoin, Patchouli, spices (cinnamon, cumin, black pepper). By the time the cumin has let up on my skin, the fragrance is barely a whisper. It is a Monet for sure in the sense that from far away it's quite lovely, but up close it is a mess. I'm actually quite sad because I initially thought this was the most gorgeous tropical masterpiece. And now I get a dirty skin scent and not much else :(

herculano

This is totally tropical.

Yes, and very beautiful, however, despite the strangely bad reviews for CSP Aloha Tiare, it’s better, in my opinion.

I’ve been using CSP for many years now. I’ve gone through several bottles. It’s one of my all time favorite fragrances.

CSP has less jasmine, and there is no skank at all. But it’s nearly exactly the same fragrance as Songes, just, in my opinion, a far better representation of what Songes is trying to do.

This one definitely smells like pencil shavings, and rather strongly. CSP has none of that.

CSP is a truly dreamy, “pink cloud” of a fragrance. Heady, too, like Songes.
It is also quite strong and has the most longevity of all of my frags.

So I will just say:

This is beautiful, for sure.

But it’s very skanky, and that’s from the heavy natural jasmine (indolic).

If you want less jasmine, and you want heady tropical flowers with zero skank, try CSP Aloha Tiare instead.

And if you have, and love, one of these two already, you don’t need the other.

I have one wrist CSP Aloha and the other Songes, and yeah, they are nearly identical.

The reason this is so, is that these are very specific combinations of tropical flowers meant to invoke the air in tropical islands. You will find this scent recreated many times in life, because it’s a well known thing.
There is simply nothing on earth like this familiar island bouquet flower scent.

It gets recreated often because it’s a stunning scent.

Songes is, in my opinion, not as well balanced as CSP, and the skank in it makes less bright.

Suffice it to say, I’ve got all I could ever hope for already in CSP Aloha Tiare.

Callista25

This is for the current edt. Tropical buttery jasmine with a good dose of indoles and cumin. This is skank done in a sophisticated style. It is a little too much BWF for my style, but is fantastic. There is some similarity to Terracotta, but Terracotta is the safe, clean version.

Zethre

Nice, natural, jasmine and tiare softened by vanilla

QueenieIrenie

This review is for the EDT. This is such a gorgeous fragrance. I’m a huge lover of white flowers, tiare being one of my favorites. The frangipani makes it more tropical, the ylang ylang makes a bit sweeter, the vanilla gives it a bit of warmth and creaminess, and the jasmine rounds it out. So far I have only tested this with one spritz in my inner elbow and although it became more of a skin scent within a few hours, I was still able to smell it a good 8 hours or so later. This does remind me of Guerlain Terracotta (one of my all-time favorites) minus the coconut. I do have both but it’s because Terracotta is hard to find these days in the US and now Annick Goutal is getting harder to find as well and I found both for a good deal so decided to stock up! I’ll be wearing these all summer and probably in the fall too while it’s still warm here.

Edit: Now that I've worn it a few times, it really reminds me of a cross between Guerlain's Mahora and Terracotta Le Parfum. If they had a baby, Songes would be it. I also started to pick up more on the cumin note when I first spray it on my skin. It's like a "dirty skin" scent, but it mellows out within a few minutes. For an EDT, the performance is pretty great. I really can't stop smelling my arm when I spray this and am considering getting a backup bottle and maybe the EDP in case this becomes even harder to find in the future!

2nd Edit: Word of caution: Do not overspray if you're not a fan of the cumin note! It takes longer for the cumin to subside. I learned this the hard way, as I am an oversprayer, due to my perfume-eating skin. However, the drydown is magical.

Enrium

Songes has a beautiful, heady, white floral opening with jasmine taking centre stage. It feels exotic and tropical thanks to the frangipani, and I smell something akin to tuberose. The opening is like an expensive bouquet of expertly chosen flowers - not headache-inducing, just delicious.

Vanilla is used to great effect in this fragrance. Here, it is rich and creamy, and smells natural. It complements the other notes instead of being overwhelming, and is not too sweet, making for a sophisticated, grown-up scent. There is a woodiness to Songes, which balances the other notes beautifully, resulting in a deeper and richer fragrance. The white florals, woodiness and vanilla are long-lasting, all evident in the powdery drydown.

This is a very versatile scent, both day and night appropriate, and can be worn year-round. It performs better than most other Goutals I've tried, with moderate sillage and 4-5 hours longevity before fading to a skin scent. As is typical for Annick Goutal scents, Songes consists of high-quality ingredients used creatively, resulting in a unique and interesting fragrance.

An excellent white floral scent, this is a lush, grown-up, feminine fragrance. A modern classic (though I haven't yet smelled the reformulation). My favourite Goutal. 4/5.

stunning...you must love white, heavy, lush, tropical florals

jenniferkuo423

At first spray this is a very heady, very lush STRONG floral, almost overwhelming, but it's definitely not generic. To be perfectly honest, it was even a little medicinal/bug spray-like but not in an unpleasant way. The drydown lasts forever on my skin as a powdery vanilla scent reminiscent of fancy vintage cosmetics. One spray was enough to last me several hours. Definitely a little out of the ordinary for scents I gravitate towards but I can see myself wearing this on a cool date night.

psychosaki

I have both the new bottle (GOUTAL) and the old bottle (Annick Goutal).
I bought the current version of the perfume first after testing it out at a local store. It reminds me of the cheap frangipani perfume I had in Australia when I was little, but of course much more refined. It’s nostalgia in a bottle, I love it. A very sweet, pleasant floral.

My vintage bottle is less sweet and smells more like jasmine/ylang-ylang. It is heavier and stronger, a little tangier if that’s the right way to say it... Reminds me less of frangipani and more of Guerlain’s Jardins de Bagatelle that I gave away. I do like the old Songes but I like the new Songes better since it is sweeter and lighter.

Longevity/sillage were both top notch on me. 5,6 hours of medium sillage with 12+ hours of skin scent.

PerfumedParrot

My skin turns this sour. On me, it’s like sour frangipani with wild parsnip or wild celery (Angelica archangelica). The vanilla is trying its best to sweeten this up, but the vanilla is too much for me and makes the entire thing sweet and sour. Chanel’s ‘Beige’ does frangipani much better. I’m blaming my skin chemistry for this floral failure.

bel.gravia

Similar to Joy Jean Patou and Orchid Soleil TF, a little bit to Grand Bal Dior. A jasmine perfume, as simple as that.

Cherry_Darling

Sharp medicinal opening, mixed with 90s indolic florals. According to website, additional notes cinnamon, cumin, black pepper. I get some sweetness but real genuine frangipani is I guess really hard to recreate, I've only ever smelled one good one so far (Ormond Jayne Frangipani) although in my opinion there the citrus really helps it shine. The ylang is noticeable and overall quite sweet. Picking up a lot of indolic jasmine too, but that medicinal vibe is challenging. Goes away on dry down, I'm not understanding this yet but I'll keep trying, maybe try again in the summer month. In my opinion not blind buy safe unless you are into medicinal, vintage, indolic florals.

Edit: If you can get past the opening, the drydown is super nice. frangipani comes out, as a tart, exotic, holiday floral. I much prefer the drydown of this perfume not so overwhelming.

AnEnglishRose

Gosh, what a fool I was to blind buy a full bottle of this based on reviews and notes.

On me this opens with a strong cloying cheap joss stick smell that reminds me of new age shops from the 90's.
Then someone arrives in the shop eating warm sickly sweet candy floss and someone else carrying huge bunches of pungent funeral flowers.

I was longing for a really powdery vanilla and jasmine, that never arrived. Alas I didn't wait around for any further development as it was so nauseating that I had to scrub it off. I literally felt sick.

The bottle itself is so pretty and elegant. The contents a bizarre concoction.

violetstorm

i am addiced to this amazing fragrance !!! i love it so much i have back up bottles lol

i did read some negative reviews but gee i am completely opposite of their opinions lol.......i find this fragrance one of the best vanilla florals around !!

yes vanilla is prominent but its done in a beautiful luxury way not in a teen fragrance scent way lol

and the floral mix is perfect.......i find the jasmine is a bit of a stand out on me in the floral arrangement but over all beautifully done :)

its one of those fragrances u spray on u & u literally cannot stop sniffing.......i call this a yummy scent

its very feminine & romantic & the description is perfect - a powdery cloud of vanilla & florals..........if u love powder scents this should be in ur collection

i really miss annick goutal scents........you dont hear much about them anymore - its kind of like they got lost in the midst of ALL the millions of niche fragrance lines

when the daughter took over awhile back it just wasnt the same - its like the line dropped off the face of the earth lol.....its now called goutal paris & the original beautiful feminine bottles with the cute bows are history - now the bottles are more streamlined & kind of unisex looking :(

also its hard (in the USA) to even find where to purchase the line but even if i wanted to (purchase the new goutal ) the prices are 3 times as much as they use to be.........the scents are over 200.00 a bottle now (a bit more than my budget allows sadly )

so if u love annick goutal originals gather them up lol - u can still find them on frangrance discount sites:)

and this is one of their best ones besides la violette :)

redskyatnight

What is this magic? White floral fragrances are really not my jam, but Songes has pulled me in. I get a significant amount of benzoin and spices to bolster the heady, airy flowers. If I were to describe without looking at the notes, I sense lush bouquets of tuberose and jasmine, all very indolic and creamy. I was trying to come round to Carnal Flower but this does it better. Truly carnal and fully balanced.

starsnek

I love Songes so much, though I have to apply with a light hand. Notes are listed as such on the Goutal website: Frangipani flower, Tiaré flower, Jasmin Sambac, Ylang-ylang absolute, Bourbon vanilla absolute, Benzoin, Patchouli, Spices (cinnamon, Cumin, black Pepper). On me, it starts off with powerful frangipani that takes about an hour to shift to floral vanilla, then later shifting more into pencil shavings. A friend of mine who smelled me wearing it blurted out, "Mmmm, you smell like Mom". I guess it's something an older woman would wear, but I'm gonna rock this glorious juice anyway.

Bluebirdpsyche

Someone opened a topic on the Fragrantica forums, on “vulgar perfumes”.... And someone else mentioned Songes and it’s “sweaty dirty hot crack” and I laughed to myself and I had to agree. My response was “ a languorous, voluptuous, sensually erotic, tangled in my lovers arms after a whole night of sex type of olfactory experience Songes is. I like to wear it to bed fresh out of the shower 😹 “ Songes.... is of the flesh, ripe. A carnally pure paradox....

Wow. I do enjoy this. It’s a reverie of life in a bottle. Dreamy but ALIVE! —as if I’ve sprayed a beautiful living breathing essence on my skin. I don’t get the extreme lasting power others talk about, It’s decent, about 6-8+ hours. Dry down is a little sweet, a pinch of spice, and with a slight rubbery tinge, which could be the Jasmin.

Edit: I put Songes on tonight, and I’m mesmerized. It’s a windy 70 degree night and I have the windows wide open.... and I’m getting the heady indolic florals and incense and sacredness that another reviewer was describing. I feel like I’m in a trance..... Songes is a kaleidoscope, ever-changing, and she’s taking me to church. In the words of Hozier, “ I should have worshipped her sooner....”

yukitanonton

Heady but pleasant, friends always noticed and complimented me, they said its like entering a floral shop. Blooms beautifully in hot tropical climate. Loveeeee

Anamandy

I am totally floored how absolutely stunning this perfume is. I lucked out and got a barely used 3.4oz. bottle of the edp for a good price from a seller, of all things, baseball cards on eBay. I had my doubts that something I purchased so inexpensively, and from a card dealer no less, could even be real. After one spray I knew that this was indeed the real deal. There is no way a counterfeiter could ever make something that is so captivatingly beautiful and clearly of such high quality.

On first spray I was greeted and slightly overwhelmed by the rush of creamy florals - tiare, ylang, jasmine, and frangipani. The frangipani stands out the most to me as it has a milky coconut characteristic; but it doesn't smell like coconut. Combined with the light vanilla it is giving this scent the rich creamy density of a cake batter. Yet, the scent itself is not heavy. The silage is light, but very present. Cumin? What cumin?! That is a note I have a difficult time with that has ruined some beautiful fragrances for me. Here, I can barely smell it. Yet, I know it is there because there is a slight spicy element that is countering the sweetness of the florals and adding a little heat. Actually, I think it was the perfect choice to use. If any other spice, like pink or black pepper, was emphasized, it would have changed the whole composition. Cumin adds a complexity and depth that takes Songes into the realm of a sultry tropical night.

For me, this is beyond just a pretty perfume. It is a work of art at the highest level! A true masterpiece! The perfumer, Isabelle Doyen, was never on my radar before. Looking at her profile I was surprised and delighted to find she created my beloved Grand Amour. Clearly, Doyen is a perfumer to be reckoned with. I now want to check out some of her other creations. If even a few of them are half as beautiful as this creation, I would be more than satisfied.

GreenCarnation

I very much dislike white florals. They usually give me a bad headache. This one though... when I first sprayed this on, I was rather disappointed with the oldschool whiff of Elisabeth Taylor Diamonds, which my grandma used to wear as a cheap everyday scent. I’m a fan of Chanel no5, so it’s not like I dislike granny soapy scents.
Then I got nauseating strong jasmine, and I nearly marched into the bathroom to scrub it off, as I could sense a headache coming on. However I got preoccupied with something and I didn’t. Then magic happened. I suddenly started smelling something out of this world beautiful, something warm, glowing, mysterious, elusive, summery, airy but heavy at the same time. It just brought back some long gone memories which I can’t describe. Childhood perhaps. This scent does some weird things to me. I feel happy wearing it. I feel like I am longing for something that I can’t describe. It has become my one and only, and I never want to part with it.
I love annick goutal, I also own Vanille Exquise, which I use in the winter, and rose splendid which I use in high hot summer after I leave the shower in the morning. But Songes is just a pure masterpiece and I can’t recommend it enough. I am 37 though, and I am not sure my younger self would appreciate the beauty of this.

ViouAmara

Songes, meaning dreams, it took me some time before I could enjoy your incredibly strong milky note of frangipani, your intimate explosion, your warm indecency.
But in one word, you’re a masterpiece.

churinl

A wonderful thing happened today! I decided to wear Songes, aware that I would need to allow time for the initially strong cumin note to recede before I could truly enjoy it! This time, the extremely buttery florals took center stage from the very first spray! I couldn't believe it! As it dried down, I would get an occasional whiff of body odor, more so when I sniffed my wrist, but to a far more bearable degree. I'd go so far as to suggest that it added interest to what could have been a one-dimensional, albeit beautiful, fragrance. Unlike many other AG fragrances, this one provides crazy longevity on my skin, and excellent projection and silage. I need to remind myself to go easy on the spray when I wear it in public. I truly love this gorgeous tropical fragrance!

churinl

If anyone is interested in exchanging a decant of the EDT for a decant of EDT, please PM me. I'm dying to try it!

pauroj

I finally have a bottle of songes and I can say it is delightful, so warm and embracing I enjoy using this today I took a nap and suddenly moved my arm to be embraced by a very warm smell coming from songes.

so nice, it does a cumin smell at the beginning but it dies down, I don´t think is cumin exactly but it resembles it for a while maybe 10 min top, honestly, it would have been a big no from me but it mellows very fast and leaves yellow florals and vanilla almost immediately.

churinl

A beautiful white and yellow floral - once the cumin note dies down! I have a decant and I am seriously considering a full bottle. For the life of me, I can't understand why perfumers use cumin as a note. I love spices, and I understand that in many cases, they seek to reproduce the smells of a body after passionate love-making, but cumin smells like tank body odor and unwashed armpits to me. If my lover smelled like this, I'd kick him out of bed and tell him to hit the shower! There's a fine line between smelling musky and animalic and smelling like you haven't showered in 2 weeks, and cumin crosses that line for me. Thankfully, it recedes fairly quickly in Songes. All in all, this is really pretty. A tropical floral done right, not cloying, just creamy ylang and tiare, drying down to soft, dreamy vanilla. A strong like that would be a love if not for that blasted cumin!!!
PS - changed my mind. I do love it. Just purchased a 1.7 oz EDP from Ebay. The cumin never goes away completely but it does blend in with the other spices not listed, giving it some edge and making Songes more than just another beachy white floral. The longer I wear it, the more deeply I fall in love with it! Beautiful, but try before you buy.

pearlhart

some Goutal's have been instant loves, but many have taken their time to grow on me, for me to understand their strange alluring magic, the exquisite balances of notes, the poetry of the journey as it blooms...

Songes is one of those fragrances that took a few tries. At first I thought it was way too strong. But I absolutely adore it now - it is so lush, tropical, creamy sexy frangipani with a delicious, delectable vanilla dry down. simply stunning....truly a fragrance from my dreams...I never tire of this gorgeous gem.

chlorodream

Oh this is so special. A pot of pure gold from Paris. The yellow flowers and ylang are so beautifully balanced and although I feel this calls for a slightly more mature wearer, I still adored it and I'm in my twenties. If you want to smell flowery and beautiful without smelling like everyone else, definitely try this out.

Alisaaa131

I purchased this last winter I think off amazon.
It smelled like sawdust so I thought I had purchased a fake or that the EDP would've been better and was extremely disappointed, so off to the back of my cabinet!!

It's maybe 31C today in Canada, It's humid and I completely forgot about Songes!
I decided to try it again and I'm quite happy (:

On my skin it's a HEAVY dose of Ylang-ylang and some tuberose, I don't see it listed but it's the same tuberose in Datura Noir.

I'm not sure what frangipani smells like but I can get a sense of the slightly powdery and creamy tiare flower which is one of my favorites!
I'm not a gourmand or very sweet-smelling type of gal, so this one is a thumbs up from me!

All in all, if you have a craving for a buttery, yellow-sunny fragrance then this would be am amazing pick!

Konga5000

Ignore the notes, ignore the reviews - I am here to describe exactly what Songes FEELS like:
It's sometime in the late 1940s. You're on a movie set in Hollywood. The scene takes place in a high end 1940s department store. The counters and displays are all done up in blush pink satin, with ribbons, bows and button-tuck. There are white floral arrangements everywhere. The scent of a real cosmetics counter gently fills the air (face powder from a compact and the general scent of "cosmetics"). Just then Joan Crawford enters the scene dressed as a sales girl. She is getting ready for her scene and has a few moments to spare. She asks a production assistant to get her a CREAM SODA in an old fashioned soda fountain glass, sparkling with ice.
That's it! Classic perfume, slightly powdery / creamy, white floral, with a hint of cream soda! It's hard to believe this is as new as...2005 ! It smells like a classic old perfume that has transcended time! Blind Buy safe if you trust my description.

gtabasso

This is incredible. No one does florals like AG. A rich, intense, strong tiare flower with frangipani and serious animalic musk from the indolic jasmine. This isn't a jasmine-forward fragrance but it gets that floral musk from this note. Not for the faint of heart or this will wear you.

SuzanneS

Edt reviewed

Songes falls into the tropical class of Roja Lily, Karenina, guerlain tropicals etc

Tiare, banana like ylang ylang and a spicy note make the heart of the fragrance.

I wish I found Songes before I bought my Rojas. Its that good.

roxyjuliet

This is probably the most beautiful summery yellow floral fragrance that I have ever smelled. Similar in style to Guerlain's Terracotta - Songes is lighly sweet with rich velvety notes of ylang ylang, jasmine, frangipani and tiare flower. It is like a rich nectar that envelops the wearer. I can smell it on myself all day and its projection is moderate. Wow. I am buying a second bottle.

This review is for the EDP.

stacia79

I definitely smell the ylang ylang much more strongly than the plumeria. Also hints of tiare with it's creamy sun lotion gardenia scent is there too.
What I was not expecting was the cumin! Thankfully it went away after a couple hours but right after application I could not get away from that spicy almost body odor like cumin note. Not a safe blind buy but probably gorgeous provided it works with your skin chemistry.

missingpuzzle

Don't get confused like me -this is a VERY RETRO FRAGRANCE. Most prominent note is aldehydes and something animalic. It smells like Arpege mixed with tiare oil. KingPabou is 100% correct, it would be the best for someone 65+

Rosemary14

According to Annick Goutal the notes in this perfume also contains spices: cinnamon, cumin, black pepper.

KingPabou

I have been obsessed with frangipani ever since my visit to Bali at the start of the year and have been trying to find a perfume to remind me of that amazing experience. I saw this and Indian Holi by Kenzo recommended in a discussion so after a short toss-up I got this, as I've always wanted to sample the house of Annick Goutal.
Alas, as soon as I opened the box I had a feeling it was not meant for me. As I sprayed it on my face fell in dismay; it was green and grassy, and made me dizzy. Worst of all, I couldn't discern any frangipani note, which was the reason I wanted it in the first place. Cold and haughty, the scent appeared to be saying that I was far too young to unlock her true powers. It smelt somewhat 'old', although distinguished and classy, but certainly 'wrong' for 21-year-old-me. But suddenly, my mind cast to my elderly Maltese neighbour, a seventy-something lady who had always been sweet to my family and baked us lovely traditional sweetmeats over the years. Somehow I knew, it would make a perfect gift for her. I tottered over to her place and found her preparing food - she was always either cooking or preparing food - and when she sprayed it on I immediately I knew it was made for her. The sweet, dignified frangipani immediately blossomed, and her eyes lit up, and she described the scent as beautiful - which it was. It did not give off a tropical island vibe, but a classy, warm, cozy one which would be the smell of anyone's grandma in an ideal world. All in all, although the bottle had cost me a pretty penny, it was worth the continued friendship and a platter of delicious orange-water biscotti and sugar-powder doughnuts, and the once-elusive frangipani embraced me as I ran back home with my sweet trade, happy and sheepish, about to down the entire plate of goodies.

najgirl

It's interesting. It wasn't an instant love, but I do want to explore more. It is a tropical fragrance, but with a slight vintage-type vibe going on. The opening for some reason bears a similarity to Grand Amour, which I tried to like, but ultimately couldn't, because of some bitter, metallic floral notes, which I could not get past. Here, the overwhelming tropical, sunscreen-like quality overrides the bitterness, and though I can detect the metallic, vintage-type quality that turned me off from Grand Amour, it is present at just the right dose to make the perfume interesting.

WildDove

I really wanted to like Songes, and have gone through numerous sample vials over the years, but it never worked out well on me. As an aside, despite the official notes, the overall effect when it was behaving seemed inspired by the original Juicy Couture, so if you liked that you might also like Songes.

Love Musk

I've just received a sample of this fragrance today and couldn't wait to try it based on all the reviews on here which say the perfume has vanilla in it. Once applied, the only thing I could smell was overwhelming Hyacinth, to the point that it made me feel quite queasy. Even on the drydown I could definitely not smell anything remotely like vanilla...just the same sweet and sickly smell...which I'm thinking now is the Jasmine note. I will be sticking to my favourite Annick Goutal which is Nuit et Confidences because the vanilla drydown is absolutely lovely, even though the fragrance does not have much silage or staying power. I'm looking forward to trying Goutal's new 2019 release which sounds more to my liking.

Zuzuz Petalz

Indescribable! This is absolutely the most beautiful and romantic perfume I think I've ever smelled. I love my Guerlains. They are lovely, but I believe Songes is my favorite.

At first spray all the way through the dry down, it triggers a memory, but I can't recall. Songes takes me somewhere like a magical dream.

It's exotic, tropical, mysterious, and magical to me. It changes my mood instantly to say something like "This is where I want to be and this is what I've been waiting for.

You will definitely get asked, "What are you wearing?". Try it, you may love it...(Especially if you love vanilla/jasmine tropical fragrances) I got a sample size from frag net. It's not a safe blind buy. I think it's either a love or a hate. Some people find it "odd" smelling. But I'm not sure why. It's love/love all the way for me.

DulciusExAsperis

this one is so tough for me, I waver between "like" and "really like" and "dislike" and "strong dislike."

This goes on so indolic, the first spritz is initially quite stinky. It's too much. Hate.

Then it softens and blooms into a sweet tropical delight... sunshine amongst a bunch of yellow and white flowers. Love.

And then emerges a slight but unmistakable undertone that I can only describe as "elderly man's unwashed undershirt." Yikes.
I think this effect only happens on some people's skin so if it doesn't happen to you, you're one of the lucky ones. Take the Songes and run!

There is something really captivating about it, even though I can't say I like it all the way through, I can't stop sniffing it.

nordhaul

Smells better than expected
waY better. IMO this is The
Quintessential Annick Goutal.
It's what one would expect to
smell on perfume with such a
price point & elusively as that
of the Annick Goutal line, but
doesn't Quite happen with L'
Hadrian, or L'orage de Matin,
or even w/ Gardenia Passion,
happens with this... ooh just
delightful - Wearing in early
Spring, still cool & a bit dark

1 second: floral, light, safe blind buy.
30 second later: OMG!! That is EXACTLY how my very old grandma's skin smelled like. =( She was not using any perfume. It was a natural smell of an aging body. Nauseating animalistic sweetness. Even right after the shower. Do not blind buy if you know what I am talking about... Horrible. Scrabber. Ordered Eau de Sud along with Songes. Love Eau de Sud, ordered a big bottle.
P.S.I am puzzled, because I like all the notes listed. I also do like animalic notes like civet, castoreum and musk. Where this "skin of an old sick granny" note came from? =(

Coffee_Girl

Scrolling through the comments there is not a single negative feedback on this perfume. Well I must say that if you love Yves Rocher's "Monoi Vahines" and "Bronze Goddess" you will love songes.

To me I need to learn to stay away from ylang ylang and tiare flower scents. They will never work for me, the combo of these tropical flowers always smell waxy and plastic-y to me...in a way that i do not like.

To be clear, Songes is extremely well put together. Like this is quality ingredients, the perfumes doesn't smell cheap. It just doesn't do anything for me.

I feel like i am on the beach under the shade of a palm tree with suntan lotion on myself...but I dunno if i want to smell like that voluntarily lol. To me i associate such fragrances as medicinal and chemical...not as a perfume. Clearly i am in the minority.

To those who love these kinds of perfumes more power to them, to those who do not like the tropical sunblock smell...avoid avoid avoid!

flaviano1978

Blind bought the alcohol free version of Songes and I wasn't disappointed. It takes me back to when I was young. Maybe my memory of it is already fuzzy but this fragrance reminds me a lot of the Philippine jasmine (samaguita) or jasmine sambac as others call it . There would be street vendors outside my school selling those jasmine cusps stringed together as a necklace. I'd wear it until I get home and hang it on my wall afterwards. Songes reminds me of those "sampaguita necklaces" that I loved buying as a kid.

RoseSoul

I get a sillage out of this world from this massive bouquet of yellow, tropical and full of nectar flowers! It s not as beachy and covered in coconut oil like Terracotta.

Alces Alces

Oh, the opening! So heady with creamy yellow tropical flowers. The first time I smelled this it felt familiar but I could never place it. Just a yellow puffball cloud of ylang-ylang and gardenia - heaven! Songes/Dreams is the perfect name and the bottle exactly represents the yellow billowy gorgeousness.

On me, the dry down takes a turn towards yellow flowers plus delicious butter cake batter. My skin amps up the vanilla sweetness in this and it is indescribable - vanilla-gardenia-sweetness with that plumeria undertone. So lovely it's hard to put into words, somehow otherworldly. This perfume is very moving.

ladieqah

I tried so hard to like it but i cant. It smells like 60 years old granma after shower. It has been on my shelf over 2 years untouched. Sad

Neosmiaphyte

I really want to like this one. I love tropical and jasmine fragrances so I should have lived this. However it is musty and woody and takes away from the beautiful florals

apentias

This was my signature for many years. On me, it smells like a sparkling, polished, multi-faceted gardenia. It's floral, obviously, but not in a way that you'd expect. It sets itself apart from other white florals, in that it is very sexy but very composed at the same time. I always described this scent as a warm, goodbye hug from mum when she's ready to go out for the night, all dressed up for a special occasion. Expect to get a lot of compliments; this is such a crowd pleaser.

Hayley_6

I tried this at the start of my ahem perfume journey and remember it as a no. I had the urge to try it again with the recent uk heatwave and bought a decant, now i flipping love it. Gorgeous sunny uplifting tropical island scent. My tastes have definitely changed and I so regret you can’t buy this for buttons anymore as I’d love a full bottle.

dsty

It was thanks to Annick Goutal and her Matin d'Orage that I discovered that I can in fact enjoy select white floral scents very much, even though they'll probably never be my favourite perfume category in general. So I was pretty eager to try Songes as well, especially since it has the added attraction of the tropical aspect, and a very good reputation to boot. And I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed!
There is indeed a family likeness to Un Matin d'Orage, to my nose, especially in the early heart of the development. The jasmine note is dominant on my skin at this point, and it's the same kind in both perfumes: natural, lifelike even, and very bold and strong. In the other phases the tropical aspect is more apparent, but I don't detect any vanilla: just heady, creamy, even buttery, tropical flowers. Romantic and dreamy indeed, I'll buy it!
It's obviously summery in theme, but I think I'd prefer to wear it in the beginning of spring when I'm looking forward to the warm seasons: it's just a little too heavy for an actual hot summer day like today.

Madrona

You mean to tell me there is no tuberose note in this buttery tuberose bomb that's currently radiating from the crook of my arm to a worrying extent as I type this? Creamy dreamy clouds of buxom white flowers. Songes goes beyond the clichéd "weapon of seduction" into chemical warfare territory and it's too hardcore for me, but do I ever respect it.

Bubbles1964

Echo chamber review here. This is a beauty and I'm getting more than 4 hours of moderate projection since initial application from an EDT. Wow. Powerful, heady white flowers with jasmine and tiara.

Songes is beloved for a reason. I have many tropical based perfumes, but this is one of my favorites.

hyu80

I love Songes. Just got the sample of edp version, and oh, I like it a lot. It's sweet and creamy floral, when go outside for a walk, it goes with the wind and dances around me. Really nice and happy scent. The sillage is moderate and it last long through my work day (10 hrs). Definitely will get it for myself as a birthday present later.

Konga5000

Please ignore all the bad reviews! This is a gorgeous Hollywood vintage era cream soda & powdery compact scent!
With a tropical twist and yellow light! It's all blush pink button-tuck and satin ribbons.......

Try it!!

babypowderblues

Smells like yellow cake mixed with wood and pepper and my grandma (who used to wear Shalimar.) Smells like an older perfume. makes me think of bright yellow. On me, this just turns into wood chips and pencil shavings covered in sugar. Not for me.

OolongLaLa

I was expecting a mystical melange of florals that transcends the floral category; I didn't get it. On wrists, I get gardenia (that's what tiare smells like on me) with the later addition of ylang ylang and wood. The gardenia slips away and I get nothing but ylang ylang and wood in the drydown. I don't see wood in the notes here, but there's something grounding, deep, and organic accompanying the ylang ylang. It's pretty whatever it is. 2nd time on the back of hand: only ylang ylang, wood, and vanilla very briefly upon applying.

This smells vintage and I recognize how this might feel rich and alluring to people creating that dreamy feeling of transport or romance. I don't like florals that much and I just do tolerate ylang ylang. This isn't for me.

sleepy*weasel

Just sharing with other Fragranticans how I started properly with scent. I live in Devon, and one autumn day I smelled something I can only describe as a creamy white ribbon of scent, stretching over a mile on a country track. I met the lady, but was too shy to ask for her scent. So I looked for it. It was Songes! It took me several months, going by notes and samples. Songes is absolutely strong enough to trail in the air like this, on a calm day. I felt like the character in "Perfume". What a great beginning :)

truffles

I've just been gifted 100ml of Songes EDT.
It wasn't to my friend's taste and it's not to mine so I think I'll be selling.
I sniffed a spray and straightaway said 'It's like something from .. the 1940s'.
I'm really surprised it was created in 2005 but, and I mean this sincerely - kudos, in today's world of sugar, for bravery.
I've tried a spray on my wrist and my brain says smoke/spice/coconut, a weird brew, to my nose. Or from a slightly different angle - Blue Grass meets Mitsouko, in fact Blue Grass was my very first thought.
Oh! Latest sniff - a woodland witch has run a bubblebath and vanilla cakes are baking in her kitchen ... hmm ..
Interesting, and I like older perfumes over modern but I just can't take the spice element mainly, so I'll be passing this on.

JenJones28

I LOVE this. This is the frangipani I’ve been searching for. It smells so much like the Prada La Femme L’Eau that is exclusive to Macy’s right now. I should say Prada La Femme L’ Eau (the pink bottle) smells like this fragrance, because this was first. Anyway this is simply a light beautiful delicate floral that is outstanding. I love frangipani ylang combination. It’s sweet and feminine without being cloying. It’s not offensive and can be worn year round. It is unique. I love this.

ras.kel.5

Smells like the tropical version of Muscs Koublai Khan.

Xenia0504

This perfume literally has the features of a masterpiece, while not being much advertised - which is capital for anyone who wishes to emit a smell not addressed to the massses.

Although not a fan of very floral perfumes myself, I find that "Songes" is characterised by a perfection of proportions:
1) A mysterious and solid base to create the best atmoshpere.
2) A both deliberate and interesting choice of white floral notes.
3) A space for the skin elements to complete the scent by polishing a successful recipe.

In a few words, wearing "Songes" expresses a multi-faceted personality, that is sophisticated yet sentient, sensibile and sensual, and it may be worn both in winter and in summer depending on whether someone chooses an EDP or an EDT.

Personally I choose the EDP whenever I find it available, because on my skin it displays great sillage - heavy I dare say - and longevity with only a slight change of the scent by the end of the day.

This perfume is definitely a "head turner" for various reasons and, as far as I am concerned, it is one of the best - if not the best - of the house of Goutal.

chinook

Songes is like a cool and bright day when the birds are chirping and butterflies are flying in the air. I can smell refreshing and realistic jasmine in the opening. It's not as overwhelming like the jasmine in Mugler Alien. The scent gets slightly thicker and sweeter once it settles on the skin, kind of like osmanthus. Sillage is about moderate.
Update: just looked at my decant bottle, it says EDT. The longevity is better than many other perfumes in summery floral category. Songes is aptly named, definitely a perfume of dreams.

cocolover56

I have not yet smelt this on my skin, but on card it is very very lovely. At first, I thought I was smelling tuberose but that could be a very creamy fragipani.

The strip I sprayed it on is still completely fragrant, leaving me very dumbfounded. Judging by how it smelt on the card, it may be a bit too much for me but I'll just have to spritz it on just to try it. If its toned down on ms, it'd be so lovely and perfect for me

LuluSaintly

Truly beautiful rich, sweet floral. On me, mainly jasmine but at the sweeter end. Some incense and vanilla in the drydown. A warm and comforting scent for high summer (I have the EDT). Finely balanced. Everyone I've let sniff it thinks it's just gorgeous. Uber-feminine, I would say, in keeping with many from this house. It's like wearing a silk slip under your dress.

amanda7

Songes, such a beautiful name for a perfume, fortunately the fragrance is not worse than its name. I had a small sample of EDP and tried it many times, very strong and heavy but I loved it. On me it is a lot of jasmine and vanilla. It is kind of addiction. But finally I bought EDT version because EDP was too strong and I couldn´t wear it among people. This is more acceptable.

SailorV

This review is about the EDP.

On me, Songes starts spicy, almost a bit smokey and soon becomes vanillic and woody. I wondered where the florals were that I liked so much when I tested it on paper.
The answer is that they come in a later. And then they are gorgeous. Ylang ylang and frangipani in all their warm, tropical and fresh facets. The beautiful dry vanilla and the spicy notes, noticeably cumin and pepper, stay and blend so beautifully with the white and yellow floral notes. I love this combination.

Songes is long lasting and has some projection, but it's not loud or intrusive.
Just really beautiful.
I don't know what kind of weather or occassion this would suit best, but I know that it's wonderful.

geanina_gandac

In French songes means dreams. And this perfume is indeed a dream. A sweet dream from which you do not want to wake up, a dream that carries you close to the sun, to the light, and to the feeling of of happiness as part of you. I don’t like sweet perfumes, but this gem conquered me forever. And it’s so sweet!
Songes opens on my skin with vanilla and ylang ylang. Somewhere in the background there is a touch of jasmine. Vanilla seems to crush flowers and fill them with her fragrance. This is the feeling that this vanilla blend gives me. It is a powerful, loud, and sensational smell. It has a pleasant sweetness, familiar, not a sticky candy one. The smell of ylang ylang enveloped by the warmth of vanilla gives a fabulous result.
The perfume leads me to a 1800s woman, dressed in those days, holding an umbrella in her hand and walking in the streets of a big city. All the passers-by turned their heads to feel and enjoy the smell she left behind. This is Songes. The smell of a dream.

muahah

For some reason this seems vintage-y, but in same time not. It's warm, sweet herbal and floral mixture. Such interesting dense floral sweetness that is complimented by vanilla. Sweet, but it's not "regular" vanilla perfume. Almost gourmand flowers. There are some notes that remind me vintage herbal medicine cabinet (I guess for me there goes those light wood notes). Wearing this I feel like ~1900 medicine nurse or herbal chemistry scientist. It's lovely day in summer full bloom. Window is wide open and outside are so wonderfully smelling honeysuckles, further away jasmines. Daydreaming atmosphere.

Tigerlillian

I recently sampled these in store, both the EDP and the EDT. Sniffing on paper the EDT seemed brighter and potentially more versatile so I decided to give this one a spray on my skin.

Gorgeous tropical flowers, blooming non-stop, lush and fresh -- mostly frangipani and ylang. There's a delicately soft undercurrent of spice.

However within about 20 minutes the powdery aspects dominate -- powdered floral vanilla, somewhat flat on my skin. The finish does give the impression of soft French petals, but I was hoping for something more humid and tropical to linger.

carolann1240

OH YES As a true white flower lover this is my summer go to. Truly a feminine scent.

According to the Annick Goutal website, the EDP & the EDT have the exact notes:

>frangipani
>tiare
>jasmine sambac
>ylang ylang absolute
>bourbon vanilla absolute
>benzoin
>patchouli
>cinnamon, cumin and black pepper

On my skin:

EDP: It's almost unbearable upon first spray...That scent hovers like a thick, syrupy cloud of sweetness that almost chokes one into crying 'uncle' out loud...The strength lasted for the first hour, and then dissipated into almost nothing come hour three--I can barely detect anything on my skin...

EDT: Much easier to wear...It's got the fullness of the EDP, yet, the notes aren't clinging and clanging as loudly as the EDP...

I was hoping to experience the cumin note, but no such luck; the black pepper note is barely there...

At this point, I'm on the fence about both the EDP and the EDT...I might either have to gift or swap these...We'll see...

Mirabele

i have read so many good things about this one. i was very curiuos to test it even if i saw that it has notes that i am usually not a fan of (tiare, frangipani are usually no-success-headache notes for me, also i am not a fan of prominent jasmine and dont like too much vanilla). i was very curiuos about the animalic notes here. well, this is no surprise, it is definitely not for me, but i am happy to test it. it is too floral, too suntan-lotion, too similar to other tropical-summer-sun lotion scents. it has slight animalic base that makes it more interesting, but this is really more about white flowers than animalic. you must really be into heavy white florals to like this one. test if you like scents like Le Nuxe, YR Monoi Vahines and other tropical scents.

PerfumeEmpress

I blind-bought this mainly because it has my two favorite notes: tiare and frangipani. Also, I bought it for a very good discount.

I am so glad I did. I love this scent to pieces. And the staying power is excellent. I do recommend it.

MahinaVanila

Songes... I truely understand why it has so many fans :) Such a nice white flower scent, I guess it's my personal favorite from the Annick Goutal house so far. It starts of with a mix of all white flowers - ylang ylang dominates, but you get the creamy frangipani and vanilla from the heart notes to the end and the dry down is most enjoyable. A really soft and comforting fragrance. No headaches, not overpowering, just lovely and great for warm weather too actually as it has some sort of freshness to it. Highly recommended for all tropical flower lovers out there, especially ylang-ylang! The one I tried was EDT by the way.

Cloudburst2000

This fragrance on me is a lovely spicy floral...probably the nicest spicy floral I have tried. The spiciness of this fragrance gives is a sexy vibe...a sophisticated type of sexy nothing trashy about this gem of a fragrance). When I initially spray it, I get a lovely aromatic note. The aromatics here are not harsh though. They are tempered well by the floral notes that add a bit of sweetness. I know fragrantica does not list any spices in the notes, but they are definitely there. If you check the Annick Goutal website for this fragrance, they list several notes not mentioned by fragrantica including cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, patchouli, and benzoin. I would highly suggest this fragrance to anyone who enjoys spicy florals and a sophisticated yet sexy fragrance.

mothwings

This is beautiful, elegant, and feminine. It's a simple and straight forward floral, with jasmine being most prominent on my skin. The ylang and other notes balance it perfectly, making it never cloying or headache inducing. Infact this is the first time I have truly enjoyed this type of perfume. An impeccably blended bouquet. Romantic indeed, the mildly sweet vanillic dry down is lovely! But the EdT fades much too quickly, and it may be too boring overall for me to invest in a bottle of the EdP.

Read raw umber's comment below. I think it's right on point.

Two things to add:

1. This has no tuberose, however if you like the more classical treatment of tuberose, you might like Songes.

2. I'm aware the notes are all only flowers. But, I used to go to a yoga studio where they burned some kind of incense that smelled like this. There is definitely a slight frankincense aspect to this at the dry down.

While this is not the fragrance for me, I'm really glad that it is on the market. These types of fragrances used to be more prevalent 40 years ago, and I think it is great this is being commercialized, as this is a perspective rarely represented in the marketplace.

Keep buying it Songes lovers!

1) I am appalled at the indifference from many of the reviews on here! You people should be shipped to an island where only Britney Spears and Jennifer Aniston fragrances are available . Then we'll see how you all REALLY feel.

2) This fragrance is a gem. It is fairly priced.
3) The longevity and strength is also above average!
4) It is sweet, floral, vanilla with a slight spiced "edge" that could be musk or something ? It's somewhat tropical but does not smell "like suntan lotion".
5) It is nuanced. It spritzes out and the notes dance around and pop in and out for a while. This gives it LIFE.
6) I get 2 to 4 hours and then it retreats into s skin scent (and it DOES smell lovely on skin).
7) It's slightly sexy, slightly girly, slightly elegant. It's got day/night written all over it.
8) It has all the ear-marks of a "classic perfume" that's been around since 1947-- yet it's only 12 years old!
9) The vibe is all good here. Beautiful Vanilla soda with that "classy cosmetics counter" undercurrent . This has volume and comfort.

Really - I could not ask for more.
"Blind Buy" safe! Ask anyone that owns it already!

tiababy

I dislike most compositions with tiare, but Songes is different. The frangipani and ylang are predominant and it actually smells like the tropics, not like suntan lotion. It's creamy, sexy, sophisticated and more mature than most "beach" scents. It's not even really a beach scent. It works in all seasons, day and night. After contemplating it for a few years, I FINALLY bought a full bottle :D

Baseeta

There's no musk, no civet, no ambrette seed, but I'm finding this sexy in the most sophisticated way. FBW. Va Voom!

lilymorena

I can get the idea of Lys Soleia but while Lys Soleia is green and spring Songes bring me to fall. It starts floral but it goes and fast to a darker side. I smell a note as cinnamon or cumin and also incense? These notes are fall. But I like Songes enough to put it on my wish list :) Beautiful fragance. Sillage is enorm and longevity great. This is not an office scent.

woodnymph

This is probably one of the very few white floral fragrances that don't give me a headache. And how! It's probably due to the subtly sweet, lush, and animalic undertones underneath the pale bouquet, which gives this innocent/girlish scent some opulence and timelessness.
If Petite Cherie is the darling girl rambling through dewy pear orchards and rose briars, Songes is the sister who sits on a velvet cushion under the shades, all regal and gentle-hearted. Spoiled-sweet and very, very dreamy. Songes also lasts longer than Petite Cherie.

raw umber

Songes edt is a bomb of ylang and other heavy tropical florals with a sharp over-ripe indole facet. This stuff is such a powerhouse, you really only need one spray to share and distribute between your wrists, nape and sides of neck, and that will be *plenty*. Dries down to a powdery mineral sweetness, a little bit like sweet hay.

I really don't pull too much vanilla from this one, even in the dry down which I'm actually pretty relieved about. The saving grace of Songes is that it smells extremely natural, and wears on skin like something that is made from natural ingredients.

Though it is quite potent, its strength does not pulse and radiate off the skin like the synthetic supernatural florals found in a Mugler, or dry down to the mercilessly tenacious Iso E Super of Elie Saab edt. If it developed in either of these more artificial directions, it would be either lackluster or sickening. Fortunately, it smells natural till the last trace vanishes.

Heady as it is, Songes allows me to breathe without suffocating, and my skin melds with the scent, instead of clashing or being masked. It's bold but harmonious and absolutely not for everyone.

It stinks like the tropics stink: steamy, organic bordering on rotten, sweetly golden, shimmering, humid, thick, bountiful, and raw. Feminine, gorgeous and dirty-dirty. Very French.

Julie Chit

At first sniff, I didn't like it. It was too much of sharp old fashioned jasmin, but after about half an hour, I started to smell the rest of the notes and I so far love it. The dry down is shy, sweet and yammy. It's perfectly blended and it's a mood lifter for me.

sepheme

There is a richness to Songes, a sturdiness to it that belies its name. As many have pointed out, songes means 'dreams'. I do not experience this as a scent of the mere dreamworld--that would be an ethereal scent--but rather the body dreaming as well, the parts of consciousness that are less active while dreaming. There is depth and even earthiness. I've just noticed my left wrist smells different than my right. On the right I smell sandalwood warm and directly, while the left murmurs with ripe fruit and a table dressed in gardenias, maybe even plumerias. Who is at this table? It is a mature scent. Its richness would overwhelm young skin. There are young girls at the party, but perhaps they wear Petit Cherie. Songes may be a young woman's scent or an older woman's scent, but she is mature at heart. The scent dries down to creamy earthy woods, like some forest floor, one she walks in barefoot, in reverie.

bluepumpkin

Songes is one of the most heavenly white floral perfumes I've ever smelt. It's beautiful. So pretty and soft and feminine. Such a lovely sweet powdery, dusky and delicate, fresh and yet warm, white floral scent. It is light and pretty, and yet it also has a maturity, a quiet confidence. It says 'I know who I am. I am a beautiful woman, and I respect myself.'
It's as gorgeous as is the beautiful bottle! I love Songes.

ex-grayspoole

I have been making cautious skirmishes into the category of tropical white flower perfumes...those featuring ylang-ylang, jasmine, gardenia, frangipani, tuberose...an arena that had been strictly off limits to me in the past. Songes may be the best example of the genre that I have tried so far. While the first moments right after spraying may be a bit too heady (and I am not being at all hesitant with the atomizer--I'm using at least four or five sprays of the EDT), Songes quickly settles down and becomes a 12 hour cloud of sweet flowers, with a restrained amount of vanilla and touches of amber and woods. (Mostly sandalwood, I believe, since I get the occasional faint evocation of nag champa stick incense when I am wearing Songes. Still more rules broken: I usually find that specific incense note unwearable, but not when it is in Songes. It's a mystery, I tell you!) The notes in this perfume are so perfectly balanced that the profusion of sweet and indolic flowers is never cloying or over-the-top and registers as perfectly elegant. Songes is a beautiful testament to Isabelle Doyen's mastery of her art. You should try this if you haven't yet.

chridela

This perfume is lovely! Heady white florals with lush tropical nuance. Lasts for hours and garners compliments every time. I wear it all year round. Quality of the EDP is first rate. Dries down to coconut and vanilla, then powdery goodness. It is a staple in my collection and I reach for it often

turtle91

I blind buy this perfume even though I hate white florals because someone sold a preloved one cheaply. This perfume really changes my mind about white floral perfumes because I actually like this one! It has a powdery mature scent but I would not say that it is a grandma scent like Chanel No 5. If you dislike white florals, you may still like Songes.

Chris v.V.

I LOVE this scent ONLY when I spray it on first and THEN have a shower. I know, I know: I'm washing away the top ingredients and screwing around with the composition. For those who enjoy Songes as it's supposed to be worn, what I'm doing is probably sacrilegious. However, if I spray it directly on myself, it's too indolic, cloying; even the intended dry down is too much. When I spray and then shower, what's left behind is a warm skin scent that lasts all day and into the evening.

This was a blind buy from a fellow Fragrantican. I'm wearing it in the colder months -- it leaves a lovely floral/vanilla scent on scarves and sweaters.

applestrudle

Nothing special, disappointed. Maybe I need to test it again.

Angeldaisy

for EDT.
i mostly get jasmine and vanilla.

the jasmine is very indolic (which jasmine is) for several minutes at the start, morphing from a civet-like note, to a sweet "Bobby Orange" (that's "BO", as in body odour, not Black orchid) note on the skin.

in the air, sweet tropical flowers to begin, followed by lots of jasmine on a creamy vanilla base. not getting woods, so assuming that is not in the EDT mix. oh hang on...after several more wearings, creamy sandalwood.

Songes is unexpectedly a very beautiful and uplifting blind buy.
i love it.

gtabasso

weird, sweet, gourmand, powdery, green, floral like jasmine and gardenia, fruity

Second wearing: at first it goes on like a sweet gardenia then dries down to a dry jasmine

RosieRachel

I bought the original formula of Songes. Songes, or "dreams" is a lovely little number to daydream with on a hot summer's day, whilst wearing your prettiest dress in the sunshine. To me, this seems hyper-feminine and beautiful and hopelessly romantic, and I feel as though I'm walking barefoot through a cottage garden in the springtime, that has the flowerbeds in full bloom, whilst eating a vanilla cupcake dusted with crystalised sugar.

At first, I wasn't sure about it, because it smelt strongly of an outdated jasmine and gardenia, and it didn't really remind me of the newer version that I tested in stores, either, which from memory seemed sweeter, lighter and more tropical. Whilst the perfume is surprisingly not super sweet, there is a pronounced sweetness, and at times I did find it to be overwhelmingly floral.

But on the skin, this is pure beauty. The perfume starts strongly, with that "outdated" floral scent again, before it quickly develops into a heavy vanilla blanketed by a background of creamy white florals. The jasmine then develops intensely here, and sometimes it is a bit too sharp and the tiniest bit green (but this may be because I'm wearing this on a unseasonably warm day in winter; I really feel as though a true summer's day will really round out the edges on this one and blend it all together seamlessly.) From time to time I sense some creaminess from the ylang-ylang and some sweetness from the frangipani, and I developed a little bit of a headache, which I think is due to some hidden buttery tuberose (not listed as a note). The vanilla then reappears during the dry-down, as the florals become less noticeable and are consumed entirely by the sweetness. A moderate to heavy sillage; longevity is for about 9-10 hours.

kvan

Whoa, strong (edp) Fruit Loops and tropical flowers with coconut water (not milk). Slight costus root smell, adds slept-in hair.

This is the perfume of womanhood. So varm and creamy. Like a cashmere scarf. Like a mothers kiss. So feminine, but never mysterius or closed, always varm, sweet and welcomming. Very voluptuous. Jasmine, vanilla, sandalwood, tiara, frangipani. This is the most beautiful perfume. This is going to be my perfume of choice when i get married. To me this perfume embodies the most beautiful kind of personality found in a women. This smells like a woman's kindness

blake.lee

Everybody is just going to pretend this doesn't smell like dirty, lady parts? Is that cumin or what? After reading through a few reviews I see people describe it as the smell of "womanhood" and call it "womanly". Yes, that's certainly womanhood I'm smelling too, lol! Womanhood that should have had a shower instead of applying more perfume. I do sometimes like a little dirty panty in my perfume though...

kielo

Songes EDT is a beautiful and creamy tropical floral. I love it.

becuille

With animalics forecast to be the new trend in niche perfumery and me not being overly fond of animalics, I thought Songes might be a good one to try to kind of ease me into things because I don't want to have to spend the next two years unable to wear any of the new perfumes that come out like happened the past two years because I'm not an oud or tobacco fan. Goutal makes beautiful perfumes and they're often ethereal, so I figured if an animalic was going to work for me, it would be one for this house.

To my surprise, this didn't really work for me but it had nothing to do with the animalic side of it. I found that sexy, raw and interesting. The florals, however, were just way too cloying for me.

Jasmine is dominant but ylang ylang is potent here. Too potent. Ylang Ylang is a beautiful smelling flower, but it's one that can easily become syrupy if even a drop too much is used. In the case of Songes, I feel like a drop too much was used.

To be fair, my preference in florals is for sharp rather than creamy and this is incredibly creamy, but I just wish it had been made with a smidge less ylang ylang and a bigger smidge less vanilla.

I understand the appeal of this and I respect the way it purely focuses on white flowers, I'm just not as into the execution as the idea.

zamir.azam

I have this bottle since November 2015 and its safe to say half of the bottle been savored deliriously with every spray.

Of all Annick's that I've tried, Songes triumphs all of them.

The scent just keeps on coming to you, surrounds you in a warm milky exotic flower sensation that makes you feel loved... yes, loved.

Grown my own frangipani's and ylang ylang trees, its quite hard for me to distinguish the smell of both flowers in this mixture, (to actually identify and recognise a whiff of the individual flower)... but i know it is there and it contributes to my cravings.

Its hard enough to find a good frangipani's perfume as the main character builder to where I am from, but for the fact that perfumers rarely use this flower in their creations added to my frustration of chances in exploring the possibilities of this great scent.

Reason of the flower unknown to most of the western hemisphere community helps.

This perfume is not much of a crowd 'pleaser' to where i came from, so be wise and try it first. The dry down is a good 12 hours for me where it settles to milky with flowery vibes to it, like a smoke vanilla with a dash of florals. Could have been linear if i haven't tried hard enough to differentiate the heart and the base.

So silage and longevity is super great on me. Works great with your sweat too.

Review is based on Songes edp

To those who love Songes as much as I do, they might agree that it is a stuff of dream indeed.

Gigi The Fashionista

A sweet floral fragrance with creamy vanilla. Nothing extraordinary or complex but smells great and feels great the whole time it's on me. The fragrance does not follow the perfume pyramid of top middle and base notes so all the scents pop up whenever they feel like it. I could smell ylang-ylang, jasmine, frangipani and tiare flower. It has an exotic tropical flair but the vanilla keeps it gourmand and sweet but not candied. It's pure yellow floral vanilla. It smells great but I bought this for my sister who loves vanilla perfumes. As for me I'm digging the Tiare flower in this as well as the frangipani. Frangipani also tends to smell a tad fruity but it doesn't really consist of fruit. It's got a well balanced blend of flowers and vanilla. Love it.

Dufteren

It is easy to write reviews on perfumes you like or dislike, but writing a revivew on a masterpiece is somthing quite different altogether.
I feel like poetry is most fitting when describing the beautiful Songes, but since I am not a poet, I will spare you the poetry and do my best to describe the undescribeable

SONGES IS SO VERY BEAUTIFUL....

edt more beautiful in summer
edp more beautiful in winter

starvega

This opens as a breathtakingly beautiful, tropical floral (and a little goes a huge way), but it's brought down by the dirty, animal aspect that shows up after a few minutes. I think this one is very dependent on your skin chemistry - make sure you try before you buy.

ta2kitty

I love white flowers and I really wanted to like this. However, the animalic note was so pungent that it overpowered the gorgeous floral notes lurking beneath.

Delila

This for me has a strong animalic accord. I'm sensitised to it because I don't like the 'dirtiness' of most animalic notes. Songes has this in spades, BUT...

As seems to be typical for AG, it's a very, very high quality version of animalic! The note has an incredible purity to it, like it's from a sweaty but very healthy and vibrant wild beast on an excellent fresh food diet! It doesn't smell synthetic, nor grubby, just pure and pheromonal.

So I can appreciate it, but even with the flowers over the top it's not for me.

goofycaramel

As a white floral lover, I have such high hopes for this fragrance. This is the first Annick Goutal fragrance I have, and so far it's not a match. I blind bought this based on the descriptions here, thinking it will be a creamy tropical white floral perfume. That's not what Songes is like at all. Songes is white floral alright, but not the creamy waxy type that I like, but instead a very strong 80s white floral rendition that smells very dated.

paneradfisk

Intoxicating, creamy and tropical white and yellow flowers, Frangipani with fruity notes and gardenia/tiare flower giving you the summery and exotic smell of paradise and sun lotion. Ylang ylang with its creamy and almost banana-like feel together with Frangipani, both being yellow flowers, emphasize each other. Tiare flower having all the exotic and sweet properties as the smell of coconut, there is no need for a coconut note, making this stand out from all tropical coconut-suntan scents (which I also love). The jasmine is subtle and not crispy. A unique take on a summery sun lotion scent! One of my top five. If you know the smell of Lush R&B hair conditioner, you can get an idea. Guerlain Lys Soleia is similar but lighter, whereas Songes has more depth.

Also, the EDP has more jasmine in it than the EDT, which immediately smells like the EDP's drydown of creamy frangipani.

datripp

I love to wrap myself in this garden of dewy tropical blooms. I used to think it was strictly a summer thing, until I discovered how welcome its warm weather sweetness was in the fall, and the winter.... But a Bad Thing happened this week - and I'm pretty sure it's my fault. Had a little EDT left over and a nearly new bottle of EDP. Mixed them. Within a couple of days, the white wine color of the perfume had turned to scotch brown - and the scent had gone from multiple layers of recognizable flowers arranged as carefully as a bouquet, to gummy worms. Flat, fruity, and good for nothing except perhaps to scent a lingerie drawer. If I want to smell like gummy worms, I'm all set. Sigh....

Venusia

"A midsummer night's dream" indeed. Now this is what I call perfume. I never tested real ylang, tiare or other exotic flowers - they are not to find often in Europe. For me this is one majestic white flowers bouquet (I sense smth. like gardenia, tuberose and jasmine) very strong at first (a bit nose stinging for 30 minutes) which then goes a little bit tempered and powdery with slightly vanillic aroma and natural floral sweetness without being overpowering. Some other spices like incense and a hint of smoked sandal wood is there too.
Great sillage, hopefully the longevity will prove itself ok too.
It is exquisite and elegant without a doubt.

cumulnimbus

I'm very glad I had the chance to get to know Songes edt . I had tried the edp and didn't like it as much as this version. On my skin it starts out full of sweet jasmine with some addition of tiare, not a dense thick jasmine scent but an airy cool bright scent of tropical white flowers. A few minutes after stage is given to a blend of the previous with beautiful ylang ylang absolute. This middle phase lasts and lasts, evolving slowly to a comfortable drydown with vanille, spices and wood (not sure which but I would say it is a mixture of cedar with maybe a drop of patchouli).

White flowers+ylang ylang+ woody powdery vanille, slighly spiced.
Uplifting, long lasting and with a moderate sillage it is a very beautiful scent.

smellagent

I USED TO MIX THIS WITH AG MANDRAGORE AND GOT MANY COMPLIMENTS. IT WAS JUST TO FLORALE AND NEEDED A LITTLE BALANCE. ANNICK GOUTAL IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FRAG HOUSES.

Hipchick40

Can I just quote most of you here? Love at first sniff for me as well. It reminds me a lot of my most favorite Guerlain Ylang and Vanille, and yet, it ***might*** even exceed my love for Y&V??? Can It be??? This is a bit heavier which is a good thing for me so it will last a bit longer. The Ylang is almost more prominent than the frangipani to me but the combo is a smooth, sultry and romantic scent. The vanilla makes it more universal for seasons. I can see it being very cozy in colder months yet it's fresh enough for summer heat. So far, I'll give it excellent arm's length sillage and I'm at four hours and counting for longevity. It's such a creamy, nearly exotic but not quite, floral beauty. And of course, the bottle is adorable. I could not be any happier to have tested and purchased this all at once. I'll own a bottle forever! If you like tropical without coconut, suntan vibe, rich vanilla without being like cookie dough, and and exotic scent without being weird, try this. I really don't see how you'd regret it!

AYandbunny

It was a love at first sniff, I thought I found my signature unicorn. After wearing it for 3 days in a row it became rather like then love. The dry down is pleasant creamy warm Jasmine, but my favorite are the top notes from freshly applied perfume. Three dubs from sample vial after 5 hours gave my husband a stuffed nose as it still was very strong. Stayed on clothes 3 days so far. My sample is EDT.

hbomb9410

I may have gotten a bad sample, or perhaps it just sat in the hot mailbox for too long, but my experience with Songes was disappointing. I was expecting heady tropical flowers with a kiss of vanilla, but all I got was a boring, linear powder bomb. Other than a brief whisper of ylang-ylang, I smelled no tropical flowers at all, just stuffy, powdery vanilla. It was, however, the longest-lasting Annick Goutal fragrance I've tried, and it had the biggest sillage, too. I will be passing my sample along to my mother.

georgetaylor

I got a sample of this, and I am loving it so far. I feel like if there were more smells in the smell profile, they would be peach and powdery notes. Initially, it smells very sweet, fruity, white floral, vanilla. Once it dries down, it is more of the white floral and the powdery smells that linger on.

It is really lovely. I am thinking about buying it. It is easy to wear, easy to enjoy, I can't imagine anyone being offended by this smell, which matters, in my book. It is a very sophisticated fruity/white floral/sweet/vanilla. A perfume that is both innocent and mature.

modernfumie

I do not normally enjoy florals, especially not BIG WHITE FLORALS, but I have come to adore Songes by Annick Goutal.

This fragrance is technically impeccable. There are three clearly defined stages. First, the white flowers. Sweet jasmine with a touch of tiare (YMMV). Then the vanilla kicks in. My absolute favorite part of this scent, however, is when it shifts to the dry down. The flowers shut off abruptly, and what had been a BWF is now a powdery musk.

The evolution of this scent on skin is remarkable. Definitely the work of a master.

matilda_clare

I obsessed over this perfume for ages. spritzing myself in store and sniffing my wrists for hours.
I saved up and got it and now I find it too over powering. As my partner says it really smells like "perfume". I love it don't get me wrong but I find in need to spray it into the cap and just dab it on or else it over powers me and smells like old lady. In small doses though, its creamy tropical paradise. I recommend just buying a sample and making it last. The whole bottle is too much and it's so light sensitive, the oils are already starting to darken in my bottle.

sleepy*weasel

Songes is just fantastic. I loved it at first sniff and bought it straight away. To me it’s a perfect blend of jasmine and ylang, with the creamy tropical florals not too strong, but supporting the jasmine. It evolves into a soft powdery-woody tropical floral, never soapy. I’ll always love it and buy it as long as Goutal makes it. If you like white florals this is a must-try: creamy, pretty, with no headaches or harsh aldehydes. This is as natural and high-quality, as it gets. Everything is in balance. I get many compliments on it, too. 10/10 :)

courant

It's Christmas Day in the Southern Hemisphere. At the resort where we are staying there are many large pots of Gardenia in flower and it's as if my bottle of Songes is at hand. This is Tiare. Some may say it is old fashioned, some have, but that implies that it was once in fashion and has gone out of fashion whereas a beautiful render of jasmine and tiare can't be classified, it's naturalistic and classic. Enjoy Songes for what it is.

mvd99

LOVE! LOVE! I smell sandalwood and maybe incense in this, it's not just florals and vanilla so change the notes Fragrantica!! Anyway, I've been on a Frangipani quest this winter. I tried Bronze Goddess and loved it so I wanted something creamy and frangipani minus the coconut. I tried out Versace Vanitas which smelled nice at first and within a few minutes was cloying and sort of synthetic and too simple. Songes on the other hand is frangipani perfection, creamy, lush frangipani with a touch of something woody or dare I say, even funk-ish, almost sweat-like, to make it sophisticated and sexy. I mean sweat in the best way possible. Again, love.

bibibling

After reading the backstory of this perfume (Camille was inspired by the scent of frangipani at night time in Mauritius) I felt like I really needed to try a sample of this and ordered a vial from fragrancenet.

It is night time here and raining very heavily right now and I'm not sure if the atmosphere is affecting the scent but it smells lovely. The frangipani, slightly sweetend by vanilla is the star of the show with ylang-ylang, jasmine and tiare acting as the back-up dancers. They play well together though I do feel like something is missing, I'm not sure what. Maybe I need it to be creamier or sweeter of maybe a hint of coconut or pineapple? But I'm a gourmandophile at heart so that could be the problem.

Honestly though this is a sophisticated, well made frangipani scent. I'd reccomend it for 21+ because it just doesn't feel sweet&sassy enough for school girls/college girls, it has that 'I'm not a kid anymore' feel (but I'm not trying to say "GRANDMA PERFUME ALERT!" either, just to be clear.)

Personally, I would save this for a hot&humid day. I feel like trying it on such a cold and rainy December day was a mistake. With some 'summery' fragrances, you can put them on in weather like this and it takes you away to a warm tropical paradise but Songes turned out to not do that for me. (In case you want reccomendations, the Comptoir Sud Pacifique perfumes are great for this!)

Anyway, TL/DR: A very elegant and sophisticated Frangipani + vanilla + yellow flowers scent. Less on the 'tropical' and more on the 'foral' vibe.

cris nobre

Very similar to Tiare Flower, Ulric de Varens

eaudemoi

Like falling asleep in a Hawaiian garden, dreaming as night-blooming flowers offer their intoxicating scent. Unquestionably tropical, yet an exoticized dream. Likely strikes the fancy of a sunbathing vacationer.

sky hype

EDT: a true to life frangipani scent. Pollen-like undertones of tuberose absolute. A wonderful floral!

EDP: all that's above, but enhanced by a very vintage, OPIUM vibe.

nurul.ain

I have its vial sample.i smell sort of fresh bouquet of ylang-ylang flower.then,i am able to smell jasmine flower in songes.this particular flower is very dominant, smells sweet n lasts through out the day...after like 20 minutes, songes develops to be a bit spicy n becomes oriental-floral n quite powdery..i am not sure about that spicy thingy scent that I experienced..probably,songes has star anise as one of the ingredient, even though it's not stated here.or maybe the spicy scent is due to my skin chemistry. The drydown is mysterious but warm n sensual.

Anyway, songes shouldn't be worn more than 2 light sprays as it may caused other people who passed you by feels suffocated or maybe fainted.just lightly apply it to skin n shirt,it will definitely brings out the lovely n beautiful smell of the perfume that you wear.

butterbean

I really wanted to love this, but NO. it was not a love, not even a like.
It was not a concoction of tropical heavenly flowers, as I had hoped, no not all.

I have a very fragrant plumeria tree growing outside in full bloom. This is not frangipani. I love tiare, this is not tiare. I like ylang ylang a lot, but do not pull any ylang.

So what is Songes? It does have a very strong odd floral presence but its more animalic with an almost medicinal quality bathed in an overwhelmingly powdery, old makeup smell.

someone mentioned coloring pencils below - so I smelled my box of coloring pencils - actually, yes it did have a similar scent to it.

sorry to all those who love - but you must test this one. do not blind buy it.

therealpaloma54

I've always loved frangipani, and am hoping someday to find the perfect incarnation of that lovely flower. In light of this, I had thought that the Sylvie Chantecaille Frangipane would be that Holy Grail. My attention was drawn to the description of Goutal's Songes, and in a comparison, I'd have to say that the Chantecaille fragrance is flat and simple by comparison. Songes is not just a simple soliflore. The floralcy, which does not come across as pure plumeria (frangipani), develops gradually, almost linearly with a soft, smooth, blended base. It lasts very well on my skin, and although superficially it resembles others of this type, it smells much subtler, much higher quality than other things I have smelled. One reason compelling me to purchase this was the fact that others around me immediately complimented me, something which usually only happens when I wear Miss Dior, Murasaki, or Moschino.

Whatever white flower notes are here to not attempt to be the big blowzy ones of Fracas or Jungle Gardenia, although I like those fragrances. It's a different type of tropical white floral, one far more in keeping with my personality, although I also wouldn't exactly call it "restrained", rather soothed.

julieekerr

this one is an unusual one for me. frangipani dominates to start backed up by vanilla with the tiare glimpsing through. i have had to wear it a few times to decide. At times its a little too sweet, i would like to smell it without the vanilla as the floral notes would come through. this reminds me of a sweet version of Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia.

MQBannon

After three tries with this fragrance, I'm certain I'll never love it as much as I wanted to. This opens with a very sweet, somewhat artificial jasmine on me, and mellows to a much more natural sambac jasmine after about ten minutes. The frangipani seems to emerge a bit later, and the remaining sweetness seems entirely floral, not from the vague vanilla. It doesn't feel like the "big, white floral" described by many, but it has good staying power and decent sillage. Unfortunately, though, the drydown is extremely powdery and a hint medicinal, and I can't get past that enough to buy beyond the 1ml sample.

Tropical flowers everywhere. I smell no jasmine in this, which is odd, since a lot of reviewers say they do, but I definitely smell all other flowers listed. After an hour or two, the vanilla comes out and mixes with the flower bouquet. This is what I'd imagine a perfect wedding day fragrance would be. Soft and romantic.

HeavyBeatsUK

I don't know if it's my untrained nose or what but this, to me, smells like colouring pencils. I actually picked up a bunch of colouring pencils and smelled them and then the perfume and the smell is almost exactly the same to me.

This is lovely, strong and rich without being too overpowering. If you love tropical or exotic scents but are tired of coconut giving a sunscreeny-vibe to that whole genre, this is a lovely change. I recall a novel I once read where the heroine was traveling the wilds of British India with her lover; she wore Frangipani as her scent. I think this would have suited her just fine. It's refined and elegant but far from stuffy; it's bold but not brassy or offensive.

Sillage was strong (my family complained a bit, trapped in the car with me on the way to church) and longevity about 4 hours.

Reviewer courant was right on the nose saying "Fracas South Pacific style!" White flowers, exotic, tropical, "luminous," warm, all describe this wonderful scent. There are many similar out there, but this one is long lasting and top quality. Each stage - from the first blast of jasmine, to the frangipani tiare accord, to the powdery tropical finale is delightful. Makes me want to put on my sarong and drink a MaiTai!

Missh1

A frangipani & jasmine bomb!

This fragrance was an almost blind buy for me. I was strolling around a Parisian duty-free before going to Brazil, and I spotted Annick's counter, since I had never tried Songes I decided to give it a shot. I only sniffed jasmine... And that was enough to make me purchase it and bring to the plane with me.

It was my companion in a very hot South-Brazilian summer! And I had only worn it during hot weather. From the notes listed I only get waxy frangipani and jasmine, but I got an amber dry down on my skin. It's sweet! But it's not exactly the vanilla that makes it sweet...

Big sillage, moderate longevity.

Anyway, if you are looking for a tropical getaway fragrance, I suggest Songes! You will make amazing memories wearing it, as I did.

(My review is for the EdP.)

A tricky little thing, this one...It goes through three totally different roads.

The opening was,to me,like a slap on the face!Too loud,aggresive ,suffocating and alcoholic,almost medicinal!Thank God,I didn't wash it off immediately...

Twenty minutes later, magic happened! It totally changed,a true miracle...Suddenly I was surrounded by exotic flowers, tiare and frangipani (mostly tiare to me,a note I love beyond words) and a touch of suntan lotion, but in the best possible way! I could smell the burning hot sand of a tropical paradise and the intoxicating scent of tiare dying under the sun...I was mesmerized! (Maybe with an "old-fashioned" feel to it,but in a sweet, nostalgic way). The miracle lasted a good 4-5 hours!

...and then magic disappeared ,leaving no trace behind it...The dry down was pure boredom.Dusty, powdery floral, generic and dull, like the smell of an elegant elderly lady's powdered cheek...

Julie Billi

A very closed friend is wearing this when we go out....Only I get is a long hours lasting smell of yasmine in the air, but nothing more than this....

Chocobooh

I was hoping to get quite a lot of jasmin from this one, but it really reminded me of Ispahan (my mother's favorite) with no powder. A really heavy and kind of "buttery" floral on my skin.
I'm not that good at recognizing notes but I think that it is the Ylang/vanilla combo that I don't like.

My mother really liked this one though, and the jasmin was alot more prominent on her.

mysterious_scent

Annick Goutal Songes is not a love-at-first-sniff. It took me several wears to fall in love with. Songes is a jasmine with fruity top notes and solid woody drydown. Unlike a lot of Annick Goutal "polite" creations, Songes is rather bold. It's lush and sweet, not girly sweet but like a beautiful, grow-up woman, sexy yet romantic.

leathermountain

Candied ylangs. Fantastic!

Lape_snape

It's gonna be a sweet summer night date or a trip to somewhere glamorous and near the sea. Definitely with someone you love. Lots of flowers and a drop of vanilla. And something from behind I can't name - maybe it's just love I've mentioned ;)

I received Songes EDT as a Christmas gift recently. My friend knew I was very fond of the scent of tiaré flowers since I bought a bottle of Intense Tiaré by Montale and she was pretty sure I would like Songes although it was not on my wish list. Well, Songes has a lovely Tiaré scent and I’m also a big fan of jasmine but – and there always is a ‘but’ – it also has a rather heavy woody-resinous (or amber) base which I still have to get used to.
In colder weather like now, it is fine. The wood and amber give a nice comforting ‘feel’ to the scent. I am not sure if I will be able to wear this in warmer weather. I’ve been wearing Songes to work the past couple of days and had no remarks (good or bad), I am aware of it all the time. Every time I move a whiff of Songes whirls around me, but it doesn’t seem to radiate very far. For me the EDT is strong enough, it lasts for more than 6 hours on me and on my scarf you can still smell it after one week! My favorite Tiaré is still Intense Tiaré by Montale, it is a pure floral scent and has a mere hint of coconut which makes it one of my favorite perfumes.

I spent my honeymoon in Mauritius. Every evening the scent of frangipani flowers mingled with the breeze off the Indian Ocean. The island was beautiful, mysterious and romantic. If a fragrance could embody that exciting feeling of being in a romantic tropical, far away island, then Songes is it. Creamy, warm, sensuous and romantic. Yes there is tuberose, but not in a brazen Fracas way. The frangipani and jasmine soften the tuberose. It's much softer and more rounded than Fracas. It's delicious. Makes me feel exquisite and delicious. If you really wanted to like Fracas but just couldn't, Songes may be for you. It's younger than Fracas. But you can tell the ingredients are expensive and that the fragrance is well made. I love it.

Henriette

I am among those in the minority who have chosen winter as preferred season to wear this beauty.
It's an intrinsic feature of any scent to be personal and to convey unique feelings and emotions. Songes for me in summer would be impossible: its creamy warmth wraps my skin so warmly that in the heat of sunny days I am afraid I would be choked. That's me of course and the summer where I live which is humid and sticky.
Songes in winter is a warm blanket near the fireplace, sipping a hot chocolate with a cat purring on the carpet. An image of cozy happiness, calm peace of body and mind.
Wearing Songes is so soothing. It makes you live in a chaotic metropolis as if you were on a peaceful tropical beach surrounded by fine sand and colourful fishes.
It's such a "young" scent, peaceful, innocent and pure (but not banal, it has all the richness the Goutal's creations have made us accustomed to) that I would not marvel at its being used for therapetic purposes in cases of depression.
Love, love, love it. Absolutely wonderful. And long lasting too. A must.

Museumgal

Beautiful white florals -- especially jasmine -- and just a touch of something sweet. Must be the vanilla. Reminds me of sugared flower petals that might decorate a cake, it's somehow very strong white florals and a bit of gourmand vanilla at the same time. Very unusual that they all work together!

Briarthorn

I didn't get as much of the white floral as other reviewers. It was more of a warm, yellow, smoothness. None of the sharp white floral I dislike.

The opening was full of Frangipani, Tiare Flowers with a touch of Vanilla. It was lovely. The Jasmine and Ylang-Ylang were soft backup singers, never getting to loud so that the Frangipani was the dominant note.

The overall mix of floral reminded me of the scent of the Nuuanu or Makiki trails on Oahu. It is the closest thing to true Hawaiian tropical I have found. None of the brass coconut, or suntan lotion thing many "tropical" scents have. This was the true tropics. Soft, warm, yellow floral, relaxed and calm. Nothing brash or loud. Just delightfully gorgeous.

I am definitely going to put this near the top of my must buy list.

LB152

This was a complete internet blind buy inspired by so many shining reviews by other fragrantica memebers...and although I really wanted to like this...I just can't. I like jasmine, tiare flowers and ylang ylang. However, in this combination it just does not work for me. Upon opening, it's reminiscent of a gardenia air spray that my mother used back in the 80s followed by an extremely powdery dry down that smells similar to scented facial tissue. If anyone is interested in buying this...please message me.

I have travelled widely in the South Pacific, this area that I call home. Please bear in mind that I see hundreds of reviews where Paris, London and Rome are a train ride away to those in heavily populated areas of the Northern Hemisphere. I've never crossed the threshold of a proper perfume house and I buy my fragances online. I'm not being a jerk. I know the scents of Noumea, Rarotonga, Tahiti, Fiji, Norfolk, and Lindeman quite well, not to mention Australia and New Zealand's bush and stopovers in Hawaii. Songes is the most complete tropical perfume I have encountered, so far. It would have been inconsiderate to wear Songes to 'South Pacific' (the show) as it is a powerhouse perfume but I can't think of a better fit. It is Fracas, South Pacific style, with the requirement of fresh air and good spatial proximity. The stabiltiy of the perfume commands total respect. This is a stellar fragrance, I give it the stamp of the Southern Cross.

Gulnara

It is a romantic, dreamy & exotic Springtime perfume, suitable for day wear & night wear. It is amazingly long lasting - the best perfume in my collection in terms of longevity & sillage. Some may find it old fashioned. Yes, there is an old feeling about this scent. My mum once told me that Songes reminded her perfumes of her youth. You will travel in time to eighties and be indulged in nostalgia. Anyway I love perfumes with a retro touch. Songes is my favourite Anick Goutal perfume.

freddinos

I had two previous traumatic experiences with Annick Goutal (I am exaggerating, I know) with Les Nuits d'Hadrien which was a very nauseating perfume to my nose and Petit Cherie which was not good for me at all. So when I was gifted a sample of Songes I did not know what to expect, despite the fact that on paper it had all the notes I love. Well I am pleased to say I love it:) To me it is like a blend of 1 part Fracas with 2 parts of Eau des Vahines and just a drop of Aloha Tiare by CSP. It is a heavenly summery floral, that is guaranteed to transport you to an exotic paradise on earth. It does not live on my skin as long as I would like it to, but I intend to sample the EDP as it sounds more potent and long lasting. My faith in Annick Goutal's creations is restored:)

jadejoann4

Reminds me of what Queen Kapiolani must have smelled like while visiting London for the golden jubilee. The richness of frangipani tied into a tight corset and the heaviness of the evening mixed with the delicate note of jasmine and vanilla. Absolutely hawaiian and royal at the same time. In total love.

Turtledove

This is one of those perfumes that's hard to describe because I like it so much. As a kid, I was fascinated by watching motes of dust floating through a ray of sunlight that would go through the window at a certain time, late in the afternoon. The way the tiny particles would glow golden in the light just seemed to freeze time, it was so magical. Songes gives me that feeling. It has a hazy, golden, soft focus quality to it, the feeling of sun warming your skin, that magical hour or so in the evening when the light turns everything to gold.

Since that says nothing about how it smells, I'd say it smells tropical, but I'm not from the tropics so I don't know the actual flowers very well. It smells a little like jasmine or gardenia, but much richer and honey-sweet, with a rounded quality, almost banana like. It has a hint of salty oiliness to it that gives it that sensual skin quality, that note in the background reminds me a little bit of sunscreen or monoi. Vanilla is also noticeable, but it doesn't have a cupcakey kind of sweetness to it at all, it's much more rich honeyed tropical flowers, warmed up and mellowed with vanilla. With that thick, dense, honey-like sweetness it seems like it should be horribly cloying, but somehow it just floats, if you don't use too much.

This stuff is really strong, even in the EDT. It could be pretty seriously heady if overapplied, but the sillage on the EDT is amazing! I had a friend comment from across the room that it smelled like Hawaii, and I had only put on a tiny dab and forgotten about it. It's also the longest lasting Annick Goutal that I've tried, and my favorite by far.

woodlandwalk

Nice, sensual, voluptuous and summery.

This is a sweet ylang ylang and soft-edged ripe banana jasmine with a slight fecal undertone (sweaty). It's sweetened by vanilla and given depth with resins (a beeswax feel) and sandalwood. It has a lovely soft-edged fuzziness although it's quite strong

It's a tiny bit reminiscent of tuberose in its rubbery-ness (I don't like strong tuberose and it's not too strong here). At one point I really felt the damp soil and humid air of an exotic jungle, so this definitely transports you somewhere magical (especially if you're stuck in Scotland in the summer rain!)

I'd wear this on a flirty night out in summer . Good longevity, the dry down is lovely, still on clothes the next day, silage not too powerful.

Caramelle

I love this so much that I have it both in Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette.
Both are breathtakingly beautiful and in my opinion the best tropical scents.
Both are very similar but there are still a few differences:
The Eau de Parfum is my true love as the ylang note is a little less prominent and the frangipani note which I adore a little more present. The Eau de Parfum also has an almost edible, addictive vanilla note which made me fall in love with it.This note is more present in fresher bottles.I definitely recommend buying it in reputable stores as Songes seems to lose its freshness within a couple of years.

Due to the complexity and deepness of Songes it seems suitable as a winter tropical, but I still find it best on very hot days when it's mellowed out a little and envelopes me with a sensual, creamy cloud.

FuRu

Enchanting and sensually beautiful. This scent makes me feel seductive and sexy witout any punsch of aggressiveness. Sweet, tropical and intoxicating a scent for a goddess without being heavy and nauseating.

This lovely alluring fume actally reminds me of my signature scent in my teen yers and twenties,Ysatis by Givenchywhich also smelled sweet and tropical, and had nothing of the woodiness or aldehydic noted about on my skin.
Anyone else getting that resemblence?I guess it's the sassy ylang - ylang and the captivating jasmin note that makes the Songes edp remind me of vtg Ysatis...What do You think is
there a resemblance or is just me? This is a perfume for a Woman. Absolutly wearable year round day or night. Perhaps not on the hottest days. God projection and longivity. Will definetly purchase a full bottle of this. Love it and I give it a 5/5!

BelleofRivendell

At the behest of some dear Fragrantican forum experts, I’ve ordered a sample of this rare beauty in my search for a fume of that most elusive flower, Ylang Ylang. From the first application I was in floral heaven! I was hit with a powerful gust of Ylang Ylang overtaking my senses for about 20 minutes before Jasmine replaced it in the composition. The Jasmine note here is the indolic kind: Natural, unrefined, and sinfully voluptuous. The Vanilla Absolute joined in the sensual fray in the base notes, making this a Jasmine/Vanilla combo at its climax. This perfume reminds me of a graceful-looking woman adorned in a most conservative dress, who sits in a dim-lit restaurant, sipping her wine and gazing into her lover’s eyes. And yet the man across her can hardly sit still. Like a hungry cat who’s smelled a delectable piece of treat in an obstructed cupboard, he cannot wait to rush out of there and take her home, for he knows that she’s wearing a garter belt and no panties under her modest disguise... There is something absolutely erotic about Songes. My recommendation is: Try it at least once. You won’t find this kind of deceptive carnality everywhere.

I just stopped by to read reviews (love johngreenink's and miss_pink's), not write my own, but I want to quickly reply to elusivek who writes: "I think I may not be a fan of soliflores because I keep waiting for more, like a green or airy note, maybe even a little fruit nuance. I guess I'm trying to find a perfume that can duplicate the overall/complete smell of a tropical paradise, not just one element of it. Perhaps I should try layering it with another perfume to achieve that effect."

While I don't consider Songes a soliflore, I decided to test it (at home) while wearing Monyette Paris, which is mostly Gardenia. I wasn't wearing much of the Monyette Paris, I think two dabs, and I only applied one dab of Songes. It was fabulous, so I applied two more dabs! While I wouldn't hesitate to wear Songes by itself, and have done so comfortably, you could layer it with a perfume that is mostly gardenia. My little experiment didn't smell green or airy, but it smelled sweeter, which is close to what a fruit note would achieve. I hope I helped anyone who was wondering the same thing as elusivek.

Update: A light, orange blossom soliflore (I use 7 Virtues Afghanistan Orange Blossom - an amazing scent) used as a hair mist is also a huge compliment to Songes. :)

MademoiselleMaya

I'm in love. What a beautiful dream - exotic, intoxicating flowers laced with the sweetness of vanilla. Tropical, deep, mysterious, sensual, a bit waxy and very feminine. It will seduce you, it will delight you and it lasts 12+ hours on me (I have the EDT version). I wore it during a very hot day, and it worked for me even then - I was lying on a bed of flowers at first, when outside - the flowers were calmer, creamy with tropical freshness and it changed to seductive vanilla-jasmine combination in the evening. Beautiful.

jamjazz

great perfume. amazing longevity, and althoughy a bit too much jasminy on me, it is counterbalanced with a lot of powders of sweet vanilla.

2746cstreet

Heady, waxy white florals. I don't get a lot of vanilla until the very end stages of this fragrance (5+ hrs in), just the sweetness inherent to tiare, frangipani & jasmine. Not a candy/fruity jasmine at all.
Songes has a thick, humid quality to it. Some might find it old fashioned because of the indoles.

madhurimadhara

Songes is so unlike any other creation from Annick Goutal's line, it feels like an alternate reality, a dream. A rich concoction of heady frangipani and indolic jasmine draws a realistic portrait of Indian summer evening where the air is heavy with night blooming white florals.
While possessing the translucence that Isabelle Doyen bestowed on her other creations for Annick Goutal, Songes retains wonderful warmth and richness.
Its liquid comfort for me!

The mixed floral is a very particular exercise. For many, the term perfume implies floral, though for the connoisseur a mixed floral might be a cliché. Given the icons, Joy, No. 5, Amouage Gold, anything less than outstanding doesn't measure up. And given the ubiquity of floral scented functional products any floral perfume with less than a certain degree of sophistication or intention will be considered cheap. Forget the fact that any perfumer considering the challenge is haunted by the two classics: 'smells like soap', and unintended compliment of appearing 'like an old lady'.

Songes focuses on the qualities of floral fragrances rather than storytelling. It is identifiably fruity, white, tropical. And while some call it a floral oriental, I consider it a woody floral. The house of the Goutal know florals, and their line shows a wide range of floral perfumery. In Songes they perfect the woody sub-genre. It's not just a floral that eventually dries down to woody basenotes. From the focused sweetness of the opening notes through the ambery-sweet, woody tones Songes remains taut and crisp without feeling uptight. It's fitted, and in this respect can be both sexy and formal simultaneously. Composure is Songe's defining attribute, and from its heady top to it smiling tightlipped base it never takes a wrong turn.

While smelling nothing like one, Songes is a sort of ripening banana in reverse. Expansive, bombastic, even dizzying at the start. A bit more subtle, starched, equally satisfying in the end.

elusivek

This is a simple tropical floral blend. The Tiare, which is one of my favorite scents on earth, is right on top. The jasmine (not indolic thankfully) and ylang ylang give the lightest amount of support and a little bit more depth. I don't really smell the vanilla separately but since each place I've been to with Tiare has also had vanilla around perhaps I just associated the two together as just the flower.

Despite Tiare being one of my favorites (and this is a dead on duplication) there still seems to be something missing for me. I believe this scent is exactly what it is designed to be but I think I may not be a fan of soliflores because I keep waiting for more, like a green or airy note, maybe even a little fruit nuance. I guess I'm trying to find a perfume that can duplicate the overall/complete smell of a tropical paradise, not just one element of it. Perhaps I should try layering it with another perfume to achieve that effect.

In the end (between 3 and 4 hours) the floral fades away and all that is left is a bit of powder. No longevity on me but the tiare is the most realistic I've smelled yet.

Kiera79

I like this, but it was a little too sweet for me. The jasmine is lovely, but the vanilla sweetness combined with the frangipani gives this a tropical note that reminds me of suntan lotion. It's not unpleasant, but not for me.

cloudberry

On me, this perfume is sensual, evocative, and makes my husband and I want to jump right back into bed. The deep smooth jasmine balances perfectly into my body chemistry. My advice (if you like jasmine scents like this) is to wear this very lightly, as it is long-lasting and has a grand sillage. It's a perfume for someone with confidence, as it will precede you no matter how little you use. Not a perfume for a "Scent Free" office environment. For me, sophisticated, special and very sexy. I'll keep my bottle. If you don't like jasmines or big white florals, just steer clear.

Buying this perfume is part of my experiment to try and find a jasmine that I like, since my husband adores the scent. While I like the scent of jasmine flowers rising out of dewy soil on a warm summer evening, I find it cloying as a perfume. That said, this is the best jasmine scent I've tried so far. Smells wonderful on me, somehow settling to a more grounded scent than I would have thought, and meets my husband's needs for a hot, almost nasty, hit of wicked jasmine.

I must have my notes mixed up as my first thought was "Tuberose" but I can't see it listed. On paper I thought I'd love this, but actually its a bit too Jasmine and the Gardenia is overpowering.

If there's no tuberose in this then it certainly smells very similar to it. I found it overwhelming. I wouldn't buy this. It's too rich. I like my flowers light and floaty, not thick and inescapable.

norlyh

Songes is one of the first fragrances I bought when I started to take an interest in perfume. Not being able to discern notes particularly well I blind bought this based on reviews and the profile of the fragrance. That was back in 2007 and I still have the bottle, about 95% of it, but I just cannot manage to love Songes even though I appreciate how lauded the house of Annick Goutal is and the exceptional quality of the ingredients in all of their range.

Just one spray is like an assault on my senses. The floral combination is heady and overpowering, it always has been and I just don't enjoy it at all. My sense of smell is so filled with the Jasmin that I can't smell anything else. It isn't until the dry down and hours later that I actually feel I enjoy Songes.

I do think it is a beautiful fragrance but one that needs a very light hand so the vanilla can be enjoyed with the florals. I am going to persist with it but I need a break from it for now.

rainbow.owl2

This is absolutely gorgeous and very dreamy, once the initial heady blast has died down a bit.

It reminds me (and my daughters) of a Lush soap 'alkmaar' quite a lot, in the dry down, with its gentle jasmine & honeysuckle, if any of you remember that.

Lovely.

epicurean

I wish I looked as beautiful as Songes EDT smells! It's the Truly Scrumptious of perfumes - wealthy, pretty, sweet, charming, lovable.

If you like white florals, particularly jasmine, this is a lovely rendition of one. I don't own many because they often have a habit of turning acrid or resinous on my skin after a while, particularly on very hot days. When I applied Songes, there was a moment after three minutes when I detected a rubber note, but it soon disappeared, leaving a heady aroma. I tried the EDP and that had a longer lasting rubber note and it was a little overwhelming so I'm putting the EDT on my wishlist.

Some have noticed the similarity between Songes and Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia. It is striking, but you can tell the difference and I've never been a huge fan of lily. If that doesn't bother you, save some money and get Lys Soleia.

Jasmine.
More jasmine, tiare flower and frangipani. White flowers bomb.

Creamy.
Waxy.
Woody.

Subtle.
Romantic.
Intoxicating.

Amazing aroma.

missliberty11

I received a tester today. This is one beautiful fragrance, absolutely stunning. After a first spritz, the top note reveals a fine combination between powdery flower bouquet and tiare flower. The tiare scent remains the same in the middle note and gives this fragrance it's exotic appeal. You find tiare flower scent in Tahitian monoi products. It smells cozy too, a bit like very fine cotton candy or that type of scent to wear with a soft mohair sweater you can cuddle yourself into in front of the fireplace. In Songes, it's the combination of tiare and vanilla that impresses me most in the middle note. The base note smells smokey like a very expensive whiskey, but always stays feminine. I couldn't remember first of which other perfume it reminds me of, but finally got it - the base note is very similar to Gucci eau de parfum I for women.
Overall, Songes is a well rounded composition suitable for a woman who looks for a romantic but adult and ladylike scent. It smells expensive and is subtle on me. Longevity is not that strong however. If you like the scent and are not willing to spend an expensive amount of money, it might be better to buy Gucci eau de parfum (the cognac colour one). All in all, another beautiful scent made by Annick Goutal.

geekgoddess

I have the edt, which smells like jasmine flowers and Nag Champa incense. I really love Nag Champa, and I burn it on a regular basis, but Nag Champa perfume oil always smells cheap and a little nasty on my skin, nowhere near as good as the incense sticks. Songes smells amazing like the burning incsense, just with dreamy jasmine added.

Annelien1987

AMAZING, that's all I can say.

Creamy, sensual and woody.

Bettany87

So far, SONGES is my favorite among the ANNICK GOUTAL fragrances I've tried and acquired. There is something very comforting with this scent yet it does not fail to exude luxury.

Right from the initial spray, the high quality floral notes with the glorious jasmine being the dominant one floated around me like a dream. It's undeniably jasmine on my skin with hints of the other floral notes, and the creamy vanilla according this divine concoction a most welcome warmth. The dry down is reminiscent of my favorite cool season fragrance, Hypnotic Poison ... they are not alike ... oh, no ... but they both leave me with the feeling of the most grandiose velvety hug.

I may need to get a second bottle ... it's so versatile, it will serve me well the whole year. I'm just ecstatic when my fragrance encounter results to a conceivable life-long love affair.

mylancome

Just can't understand and accepting this perfume cause it smells like high quality candle wax to me.

May because of the Frangipani flowers cause the flower does smell like candle wax to me.

bond_girl1979

To me, it smells similar to Annick's Passion. It wraps you in that same dreamy bouquet of flowers. Not normally a Jasmine fan, but this note within it is soft enough to not be cloying. Love the Gardenia mixed with vanilla, which is what sold the former fragrance to me. The sillage is medium and for an EDT the lasting power is pretty good. It makes a good office, day-time scent. French, sophisticated, dreamy and non-intrusive. But due to the Jasmine notes and my overrall aversion to it, I probably won't purchase it...just yet.

oasis1313

Incredible hand-painted bottle, but doesn't do well on me; smells like Gardenia Hell.

Galya

absolutely lovely perfume!Longlasting, sweet and natural perfume with a lot of dry vanille and jasmine. My favourite.

LaBoheme84

Unfortunately I also got the "car tires" after a few minutes of wear :( It started out so LOVELY! Warm, tropical, comforting... Definitely try this, but be sure to test it on your skin!
