Mr. Blind Buy

Someone said down in the reviews that it smells like a new car. And that is 100% the best description of this. Yes it has the weed note but it mixes with leather which magically pulls off that new car smell. Initial spray straight smells like weed. The dry down smells like bud, imagine sticking your nose in a your stash. The leather takes a back seat while weed and aromatic notes take over making that dry down smell. The dry down is nauseating to me, Smelling weed for a long period of time does to me and I kinda be feeling tired of smelling like that after awhile.

Weed has come along way from its polarizing feelings but to me it still feel degenerate like because of the negative views society had about it while I was growing up. So it's not often I wear it but this is another well crafted scent Kilian has made. I appreciate things that are well made and is thankful to own such things. I'd recommend it if you love cannabis aroma, both men and women

akshat_dudeja

The cannabis note here would've made this smell totally like a joint, but the leather note takes over the control and makes it smell like the insides of an expensive car, and this car smell is very realistic in a positive way, and not just this, this one has the DNA of kilian perfumes which makes this scent way beyond sexy, imho I think kilian is one of the sexiest brands out there, takes some out of the box combinations which might sound simple, but once you smell them, you can barely find anything that can match them. Moreover this can be very versatile if you know just how to use it well. Straight up 10/10.

Aizen1987

Pure Ganja smoke. its so accurate and photographic. Its amazing.
My dad was concerned police may catch me if I walk around with this sprayed!.
Not like Nasamatto black afghano where, that marijuana note is subtle & we have to search thoroughly to find it.
Smoke for the soul beats black afghano any day by light years if its a competition on weed fragrances.
However, I do have to confess black afghano have other things going on for it.

@SalivatingSoul-stice
May I dare to ask you: who is that Mohsen95? :-)
...Mohsen Fragrance guy? :)

But I am now curious about this frag as well :DD

SalivatingSoul-stice

Holy shit! I have never seen Mohsen rate any fragrace above a 7 and he rated this an 8. Damn, now I need to smell this lol

The Wolf

Powerful stuff. Lots of green cannabis, bud skunk, maybe some tobacco, and some smoke? I used to smoke weed a looong time ago and I honestly can't remember it clearly 😵 😂.
Hyper realistic weed, and I think it reminds me of a blunt? The drydown is wood, cashmere, and incense. Very nice drydown.

Longevity and projection seems good. I'm not really into weed but for those that are, I think this could be the holy grail. Ingredient quality and craftsmanship are great which is indicative of the house of Kilian.🪴

I had an unopened refill and left it in its box for close to a year, wondering how it smelled. I was even thinking of selling it to fund another purchase. What a loss that would have been as I have completely fallen for this scent. It's such an intriguing and refreshing take on the smoky vetiver genre. The scent opens with grapefruit and green cannabis funk, an intricate construction of vegetal notes, camphor and smoke. Rather than myrrh or frankincense, this is a scent I associate with meditation and relaxation. The presence of smoky vetiver is there from the opener, thick textured smoke just like in Dark Lord. Here the smoke is complemented with a fresh twist from the grapefruit. As different parts of the cannabis accord recede, it vacillates between funk and freshness before receding all together. At 1 hour, there is no projection, leaving a smoky, dark vetiver with faint remnants of grapefruit. The scent continues as a skin scent for 2 more hours before vanishing like smoke. Whilst normally I'd complain about the performance, the strength of the scent is more than enough to make up for it. Smoke for the Soul does feel like a Dark Lord flanker, but its such a refreshing, fun and versatile take that I could see myself wearing this a lot.

flmalegre

Mate, tobacco and cannabis? Sounds like a regular argentinian afternoon.

eewatts23

2 things--
a) the opening really does have a good resemblance to weed from a clever manipulation of top notes: sour grapefruit, camphor, green notes, + a few herbal notes. Almost as if they took the weed accord from Mugler's Fly Away - which was trying to get there- and made it significantly more similar to an actual weed bud.

b) about 5 minutes into this fragrance, the weed is cashed and this is when you can absolutely see the similarities between this and Encre Noir + Encre Noir sport, with some distinct vetiver (vetiverly acetate) and cypress. Which is ultimately to say that this fragrance is basically what you could get if you took Chanel's Sycamore/Encre Noir and just added a weed accord top note.

I don't want to bash this fragrance but the weed opening is very short lived (I'm talking minutes) and then you're stuck with something very similar to Encre Noir for the remainder of the fragrance's life. Do you want to spend that kind of money for Encre Weed Noir? Buy a decant and you will see what I mean, but of course put your nose on Encre Noir and the Sport flanker too and compare them side by side.

thongvm2711

The scent of Cannabis is sour and fragrant, running on the spicy green Cardamom background with a little coolness of Grapefruit Peel, the light pungent taste is very pleasant and cool.
This is a scent that brings vitality and comfort. That's right, the feeling of enjoying the cold air after a shower, the sky is clear and blue.
Poor grip even experienced in the best conditions, about 6 hours. If you accept this you should own it.

This fragrance is extremely similar to Fragrance Du Bois Cannabis Blue in the opening. However, the dry down is a bit different in terms of being denser and having more longevity. Also, the eucalyptus really pops out at you in the beginning and evokes relaxation. I would say this is a very easy to wear fragrance and I look forward to purchasing a bottle of it…if I can find it.

Side note:

I’m really surprised this was discontinued from their line, because it’s a very easy to wear fragrance and I can see this garnering compliments.

amatuerfraghead

Very strange perfume, i for sure can cannabis, but also birch wood, some spices (mate and tobacco are definitely there) plus some eucalyptus. Aromatic and earthy. The performance is nothing to brag about, moderate longevity and in terms of sillage, its just a tad more than a skin scent. Nevertheless, i for sure see the quality in this perfume and the skill of the perfumer. However, im not sure when will i want to smell like this.

Sidney09

Not sure how anyone is getting a weed or cannabis note on this one. It's earthy, tree bark like, dirty, almost like a Lowes garden center.

ckorp8

I like it but only got about an hour of longevity and intimate silage from it so it’s just okay for me. And that’s on clothing btw. On skin it was gone in a flash. But the overall scent is good.

Edit. Grew to love it over time despite the short longevity.

hritz87

It is definitely Underrated & didn’t get enough appreciation it deserves.
Truly vividly dimensional & aromatic vibe.

Nraveles

This literally smells like when you smoke a LOT of weed and take a cough drop to help your throat feels better after a rough bong hit.

I love it.

Don’t people generally *not* want to smell like weed? And in fact, take pains to cover it up?

Smells like classy weed I guess. Not for me. I have a small sachet of by kilian samples and I’d trade all the ‘eh’ ones for love or back to black.

flufftastic

Got a sample of this. Not for me. Smells like rosemary with a bit of weed. Interesting fragrance, but hard pass for me.

IzzyB

Got a tiny sample and love it! The smoke at the opening is more like a nice wood smoke on me and I actually wish it would stick around. I'm not much on notes but doesn't anyone else get the clean? What IS that?! What else is close? Really, who can afford it. I'm ordering a bunch of samples, I guess.

edithpasch52

This scent reminds me of when I was a teenager and walking through pine trees until I reached a court to play tennis.
To me the base notes smell like this eucalyptus, very green and earth.
If it was possible would smell it until on my dreams!

Strappyshoo

Literally didn’t get one iota of cannabis but did get a beautiful and sweet lavender. Reminds me of Music For A While. Light My Fire is better but this is nice. They are all massively overpriced though imo.

Kikidelosfeliz

Loved this perfume in the tester. When I received it, I found it a bit heavy on the smoke at the beginning. I like the dry down, but it doesn't last very long. Will try mixing with another longer lasting high note scent.

Boulderhijabi

The BEST dirty cannabis fragrance on the market! This is not Florabotanica. There is NO sweetness in this fragrance. Loud, skanky (in a good way) realistic cannabis note blends perfectly with the tea and eucalyptus notes. Weirdly enough I only get slight citrus in the dry-down. A good one to mix with other fragrances. I've mixed it with Back to Black and Good Girl Gone Bad... can't remember which other ones right now are good with this but experiment til you find something good! Curious if this would mix well with Florabotanica...

ts4r

A more playful rendition of Dark Lord. AND I LOVE IT.

Eucalyptus, heavy cannabis dominate for 1-3 hours. the dry down has tons of birch and grapefruit. a very nice dark and uplifting scent.

I can say it is a freshie and a winter scent.

MickeyB

Once the cannabis smell wears off it has a good scent with the birch and tobacco. Also still get some grapefruit. But the weed opening is bad. Why would I want to smell like that? Definitely won't buy.

jogajazz

Dam this is like weed. Only complaint i have poor silage and poor performance. I was slammed at work for wearing it. I dosed quite a few spray just before getting it to work. So be careful. Just wait an hour before heading to work:).
Not worth the price due to performance. And 5 stars for work of art.

SahebX

I don't smoke but like the smell of cannabis, I had to try this.
Wore this with an intention to carry out a mission, mission accomplished.
Longevity, sillage, notes, all distinctive.
Dressed in casual attire, spring weather.

patrick.herron

smells like the the part of weed smell that doesn't smell good: more acrid bitter leaf than earthy-sweet resin. complex and may appeal to some.

siomes

In the decant this reminds me of my last year of high school where kids were experimenting with weed and they would come into class smelling like hash. On skin this doesn’t last more than 30 mins even if I over spray. The weed and eucalyptus is very dominant in this and does give a nostalgia to it. This is overdue for a intense rerelease.

Baseeta

I don't get the cannabis hype on it, and I love this! I do! I love this so much that the price tag makes me want to weep. I just want to point out that the sour edge is from grapefruit, and not Sour Diesel. I also wish regular cannabis had the clean, green, almost, but not quite antiseptic lightness to it that the eucalyptus adds. It also has a light woody note from birch that keeps it a bit grounded and a Cashmirwood note softens the green in your face feel just enough to make it not obnoxious. I really don't smell too much cannibis. This is more like Zahtar, the Middle Eastern thyme spice mixture. Don't be judgy. Take my word. There is nothing skunky here.

CobraCommander

Smoke for soul? More like thym tea. Smells exactly like Armenian urts tea.

Javox360

At the dry down reminds me a lot to terre de Hermes. Actually several times at day I was thinking that I wore that

There may be just a touch of canabis here, but I really have to look hard for it. So shall we stop with the canabis already? Honestly, there are guys on Youtube who ONLY get the canabis, and they're projecting their skewed views on the world, which really does this fragrance no justice at all. So can we move on to what it is, rather than what it's not?

It is green, it is smoky, thyme, woody, with a touch of vetiver, it's bittersweet, smoky and fresh at the same time. The green herbs and eucalyptus in the opening and in the heart does give it a smell that's a little medicinal to me. This goes away after 15-20 mins and then it becomes just smoky and green, and actually really fresh. The smoke goes away completely after maybe 2 hours on my skin, but sadly so does its projection, too. However, I am still testing this very conservatively. Read on...

Now wearing it for about 5 hours (3 sprays, shoulders and abdomen), I still do get a whiff here and there, and I love it. It is definitely still on me, just not sure how well it projects at this stage.

This brings me to the topic of value for money, with respect to performance and projection. Lots of folks complained about it, but for me, I actually like the subtleness of this one after a few hours. I don't want to be smelled from 20 feet away, I don't need to be recognized, I just need to smell pleasant for myself and my close surrounding, and most importantly my partner. So just occasionally giving out a whiff of this goes a long way - for ME! I appreciate there are people who like Kilian's beast-mode projecting frags and that's fine, there are plenty of those, so this one may not be for them.

So if you have the opportunity, by all means try this. Take a sample away, try it on yourself a day or two. To me, it is a 9/10 overall, I can see myself wearing this every day, I love it for being so dry, green and fresh, not offensive at all like some others by Kilian (Black Phantom comes to mind, although I love the scent of that one as well). If the price of the full presentation offends you, a refill can be had for about twice as less, which is in fact what I opted for.

As ever, take this with a grain of salt, as I am a guy who adores the whole "Addicted state of mind line" - where some folks hated Vodka on the rocks, I actually love it. Intoxicated? Like it a lot. Light my fire? An absolute favorite next to SFTS! I sampled 11 of the Kilians, the only one that I feel is better than any of the aforementioned is Back to Black.

Jimmy821

Smells too much like weed for me and I'm not into weed whatsoever. This one stinks.

pjd1234

DAAAAANG this one indeed challenges my olfactory senses. What an unusual smell for sure, and for that I LOVE IT. The main player is the cannibis the rest are just in the background very nice and unique for sure. This is my first kilian despite the price quality indeed you get what you paid for natural smelling I definitely LOVE IT.

GustaveTheNose

@ D-Bo

Thanks for the clarification, I think I can imagine it now from your description.

What about kinski, did you have a chance to try it? I had a sample of it and it smells a bit rough and unrefined, defo not mainstream stuff

D-Bo

@Gustave

First of all, I own Black Afgano and I don't think it smells like weed. It actually smells a lot more like hash. Not necessarily like lit hash, but more like the hash smell that you'd get from a big chunk of hash just sitting on your table.

I remember when I was young, my friends and I used to smoke hash out of plastic bottles. We'd burn a hole in the side of the bottle, put a piece of hash on a cigarette and hold it in the bottle until the bottle filled with smoke, then take the cap off and inhale. This doesn't necessarily smell like that.

Smoke for the Soul smells like high quality bud mixed with some nice citrus and eucalyptus. It's very light and the performance isn't great, but it does smell like weed. I like it a lot for the limited time that it does last.

GustaveTheNose

I haven't had a chance to smell this, and even if I did I don't think I will buy because of the price tag.

Nonetheless, how does it smell compared to Kinski? I sampled that one and I can smell cannabis in it, stronger and more natural than the hyped black afgano

thanks in advance

D-Bo

I totally enjoy wearing this one from time to time. To me it definitely smells like weed, but it's not necessarily a dirty weed scent, more of like a fresh bud scent rather than a burning joint. Like opening up a bag of weed. It does have its longevity and projection issues, but I do love the first hour or two.

on the noze

Back again, to add, some people I know that are well acquainted with cannabis, the handling of and growing of even, don't detect the main cannabis note in this and it must be one of those 'personal' things that goes to show how different we all experience scents and fragrances!
I am so pleased I'm one that really does get it! LOUD AND PROUD. If I were male, I'd wear this, only occasionally. Totally unique! By FAR, my most 'hyped' about BK frag! Not my fave but 10 out of 10 for the dare of this alone!!
Remember a while back on this website, reading about a Guerlain fragrance, Eau de Marijuana, ( or something close to that name ) as in a perfume made from Mary Jane and I thought it was a joke but maybe it is real.
Does anyone know about that?

on the noze

And to AllanR...
Trust me, there really IS such a thing as cannabis oil! And what makes you say that 'pseudo cannabis' was used in the making of this?? Well, with no such thing as cannabis oil, ...... hmmm!
My motto, if you don't know your stuff, don't comment.
Well done By Kilian. You dared to use cannabis in your perfume and pulled it off beautifully. (In my opinion)
Looks like this one is going to need a little protection! Like all the misunderstood things in the world.
** luckychilla, love your review below this!

LuckyChilla

To Siomes:

I purchased it online and got it safe and unwrapped, so custom dogs don't smell it through the glass))

To the perfume:

It's fresh and provocative. The first note I smell is a real cannabis which lasts for about an hour on me and smells very natural. Then only eucalyptus and cardamom stay. The question is: who'd like to smell like a joint? Well... me? When I'm going to a punk rock gig I find Smoke for the Soul the best choice.

on the noze

To Siomes (reviewer below this),
Are you aware that it's simply a 'note' of cannabis in the perfume and not a narcotic?
Safe to buy, and to enjoy!
Now to the perfume;
I too get a FANTASTIC strong cannabis note thru all stages of this perfume and although I'd never wear it, I'll enjoy sniffing my sample from time to time! Totally unique.
Could be nice on the right man but I can't see many women racing to the stores for this one!

siomes

i really wanna try this but i don't know if i would be able to import this because of the cannabis note.

KevinMX

Nice herbal/eucalyptus scent
but not worth those Kilian prices...

daynierds

To be clear....not worth the money....not in the least....I would possibly pay a max of 50 eur for this...

Michael1962

One of the more intriguing Kilian fragrances I have smelled thus far.
A lot of comment has been about the domineering cannabis note, and it is,but for mine the grapefruit is just as strong and stays there or thereabouts for the entire journey.Such a natural smelling grapefruit too.Juicy, sour and pungent.
This is quite surprising as you would normally associate a citrus note as being a fleeting and fresh but quickly dissipates.
At this point the eucalyptus, like Creed's Royal Mayfair, comes into play rather quickly and enhances the initial freshness of the grapefruit. Its a full on opening with the trio of top notes jostling each other as the headline act.
As expected the eucalyptus takes control..just.
Once the calm after the storm happens,as expected, the cannabis note becomes more vetiverlike in aroma and the cardamon adds some spice and stability. The drydown is marvellous.
Its nice and definitely different but overpriced at AUD 370 for a 50 ml bottle.

FragranceAndFashion

This great.

Whoever said that this doesn't smell like cannabis obviously didn't live in the West country in the UK in the 90s, where free fests, illegal raves, casualties, and sticky, thick, dark-colored resin, that is hashish, abounded. Quite pleasant, nostalgic, sniffable, but I have the duty of care of adults with learning disabilities in my work, so I don't think I'd consider it an office scent.

persefoni

A phenomenal, unusual but difficult scent that struggles to find the balance between eccentricity and dirt!

It is by far the most shocking smell i've come across in recent years, and i admire it for the associations it evokes in my mind and its originality of course!

It goes through many stages, ranging from foody to sweaty, but i liked it a lot! After about 6 hours it calms down and becomes warm.

230€ for 50ml?? You nuts, baby?!?

BeOrtega

the most daring of the addictive state of mind line

you can smell the cannabis off the top but after a hour or so it kinda took a step back and this nice almost sweet earthy note started projecting off my skin

this is one i need to revisit in the near future dont write it off because of the cannabis note like i did

its worth a try!

on to the next

deviouskind

I have a sample of this, tried it a few times and put it to the side. I just pulled it out today and what I got from it was a similar smell to sahara noir! I will test side by side but i really feel something in it is similar.

ClairaNoir

This smells like a lot of stupid decisions I made as a teenager.

Can someone pass the potato chips?

VITO79

This stuff gives great sillage and projection on my skin. You can definitely smell the cannabis in this one. Lol

colombianscents

This scent is nice on my skin. I get a lot of cardamom which is one of my favorite notes in perfumery. That cardamom is mixed to perfection with the tobacco, cannabis, and eucalyptus to create a great smoky spicy fragrance. Longevity I get 6-8 hrs and projection is moderate to low.

harmoniousdreama

I'm a big fan of Kilian's Arabian Nights series, but I just cannot stand this one. As much as I try, I simply cannot stop my nose from making a strong connection to the scent of burnt bbq sausages every time I try to wear this. If you're looking for smoke, a heck of a lot of smoke, and only smoke, well you'll find it right here.

rasputin1963

I am finding myself liking this scent very much, even though I, like others here, have never been a devote' of KILIAN, finding them MUCH too expensive, and often not....what's the word... distinctive, ie., having an unmistakeable stamp or "cachet".

On takeoff I get that bitter grapefruit rind scent, laced with some lemon, maybe; just a passing note of eucalyptus-- this is certainly not a true camphoraceous/medicinal number. And the prominent green note which strikes me as closer to galbanum and rhubarb than it does to cannabis. Cannabis has some darker, resinous, stinky/skunky notes that are not captured here.

Never is vetiver mentioned in any official pyramid of SMTS, but this is-- to me, overwhelmingly-- a vetiver scent, and indeed, at times I am reminded of good ol' Guerlain Vetiver, as well as the tweedy base of Hermes Vetiver-Tonka. I am also getting reminders of Hermes TERRE D'HERMES in the drydown: wet desert stones mingled with vetiver.

SMTS reminds me in no way of smoke... either of tobacco or campfire or marijuana. I'm just getting that tweedy alliance of patchouly/vetiver seasoned with citrus and sharp green weediness.

I actually like this scent, I must say-- I always appreciate bitter green notes in fine perfumery. But the price is prohibitive, even if one springs only for the filler bottle.

SchopenhauersNose

Smoke for the Soul was released in 2014 under the nose of Fabrice Pellegrin who has also done several Diptyque fragrances, including Eau Duelle and Volutes, and Safanad for Parfums de Marly.

The featured are eucalyptus, grapefruit, tobacco, mate, birch, cashmir wood, cannabis, and cardamom.

This is starts out with a pronounced grapefruit and eucalyptus accord on top that, at least on my skin, lasts much longer than almost any other citrus note I’ve smelled in a long time. It’s still there when the light green smoke of tobacco shows up. And I have to emphasize how light and green the tobacco really is. It’s constantly buoyed up by a bright, verdant, herbaceous cardamom that prevents this fragrance from getting as dark or dreary as it could have been. As with most By Kilian scents, it’s unisex, and the citrus at the top along with the cardamom really allow it to be supremely unisex. As the fragrance dies down on my skin, I keep getting the smokiness with just the faintest hint of cannabis. The fleeting impression someone walking by you will have is of a bright, smoky Haitian vetiver. You could certainly do a lot worse.

The good news is that this is absolutely lovely. The bad news (for By Kilian, at least) is this pretty much smells like Encre Noire – which is roughly one-fifteenth the price per ml. The only real differences I detect are that Encre Noire doesn’t have the bright citrus notes on the top. Other than that, they’re so close, that even those close to you aren’t going to know the difference unless you break down and admit it.

I know that I gave a bit of a rant in my last By Kilian fragrance, and here goes again. I’ll try to make this the last price-related rant, at least for this house, for a while.

If there was anything else to recommend it, it might be worth the money. For someone else, maybe – not for me. Unfortunately, it lasts maybe 4-5 hours and its sillage is poor to moderate – both of which are unfortunate for a fragrance with such an exorbitant asking price. If you like this, I would humbly suggest trying Encre Noire instead. I think it offers pretty much everything this does – and what it doesn’t offer doesn’t excuse the poor performance and the not-so-poor price tag.

mister_chaz

A spicy woody green fragrance; it opens with cannabis note, but it's rather polite and totally not like the disgusting and acrid smoke one might be familiar with. Eventually, it begins to smell like a diluted Terre d'Hermes. A pleasant scent, but nothing groundbreaking.

nonsisa

Smoke for the Soul is a pretty green scent underlined by spices. Nothing too exagerating and not really smelling like cannabis. Yet I do have to admit that it is very comfy.

Till now there is no scent out, where cannabis is well done.

A spicy green comfort scent.

Eupatoria

This is a perfume equivalent of Laphroig whisky -- smokey and peaty and not for everyone. And just like Laphroig, it is sold at a price point where it is really only worth it for a true connoisseur.

I don't smell weed at all. Maybe it reminds people of that because it is strongly herbal, and for many people the most herbal smell they come in contact with is cannabis.

It is woody alright -- there is real wood in there, I am thinking freshly cut down oak trees. It also smells like bogs in Eastern Europe, with moss and peat throw in. But then, there is eucalyptus (strong, strong menthol note, but covered up really well so one doesn't end up smelling like cold medicine), which doesn't go with the bogs and is botanically confusing to me. Botany aside, there are a lot of wood references in this, and everyone will find their own.

There is a hint of spice, although it is not spicy per se. There is a bit of cardamom, and I also get some nutmeg.

It is perfectly unisex. My guess is it would have been classified as a distinctly masculine fragrance 30 or so years ago, but these days, it should be welcome by women looking to break free from the oh-so-common floral notes in mainstream perfumes. Having said this, this is probably not for the very young, and one should have a certain amount of gravitas to pull it off.

I say wear this in the winter or fall. It does not seem to perform as well in the heat or in high humidity.

Would I wear this? Yes, but only if Killian made smaller sizes. At its staying power, a bottle would last me years and this is not an everyday perfume.

houstcs

This reminds me dearly of Encre Noire with a nice mix of expensive marijuana. Not so much smoke as much as a fresh bag of weed. Smells amazing honestly, but got really old fast.

juji

I was given a small sample and have to say, I do not get the "pot vibe" that you all mention! And I should know....there "was a day"...sooo,anyway, this actually reminds me of Avignon! Maybe my nose isn't as refined enough to pick out and differentiate the notes, but I really like it.

arnefag

When I received it i was not sure if this was a hit with me. Later on I kept coming back to my sample and decided to order it. Now I´m totally in love with this unique scent and very happy I decided to go for a full bottle. I find it strangely refreshing and it has so many different stages.

And all those who can´t get the pot connection on this one; did you ever smoke a joint?! The cannabis note is very pronounced initially, but goes more into a vetiver like direction, not unlike Encre Noire. This is one I often keep coming back to, even if I wouldn´t wear it every day.

I wore the sample of this fragrance and all I got from the people around me was . This fragrance is un attractive . Sorry guys but this is a tubs down for me.

alfarom

I'm seriously wondering what kind of pot the people at ByKilian smoked in their lives. A dry-woody, cardamom-driven thing that's closer to Voyage D'Hermes than one might actually expect. Just like with most Kilians, decent designer stuff sold at niche prices.

Nice but eventually as useless as the *G* in Lasagna.

WEED....

muzzbait

nope. still getting straight rhubarb with something herby. not working for me at all...

the whole 'addictive states of mind' series has been / is quite disappointing for me. nothing new and nothing earth-shatteringly amazing. meh.

freakypirate

Opens with spicy aromatic notes of cardamom, eucalyptus and mate combined with juicy woody notes, giving it a fresh feel. I smell a hint of zesty citrus notes. The eucalyptus settles down and the woody notes become stronger. I smell hints of sage, too. I can clearly smell the freshness of the birch, the cardamom and mate are still present. The drydown is quite balmy and soft with green, peppery and fresh notes.

Sillage is moderate, longevity moderate.

Smelling this on the bottle sprayer definitely reminded me of skunk hashish. Upon spraying however, these notes were much more mellow, creating a fresh woody citrus scent that does not smell of cannabis or hashish at all. The cardamom and woody notes remind me a bit of In The City Of Sin by the same house. I don't get very distinct tobacco or smoke notes though.

I thought this would be unwearable and not work safe due to the cannabis notes, but no worries about that. I do seem to miss out on the smoky aspects of this scent, perhaps I should try again when it is a bit warmer.

Oudy

A decent little performer from kilian that I'm glad to have in my collection. It's not groundbreaking or anything and the cannabis aspect is really more of a novelty than an actual accord. There is an aroma of it only if you stretch your nasal imagination really far. What it does smell like alot is eucalyptus. I have a tree out in my garden and I tore a leaf the other day and smelled it...bingo...so I guess if you like smelling slightly medicinal and like you've walked through a few college dorm rooms then this is for you. A large sample is enough for me.

p.m.a.

Smells exactly like a sage & sweetgrass smudge stick, which I like very much. Nothing at like any marijuana that I've ever smelled (and I've smelled quite a lot of it!).

Houdini4

Unfortunately as the Kilian range expands it really exposes them for not being all that exclusive or original. Creations like Back to Black and Straight to heaven really impressed with their flare and spark of creativity. Sure you're going to get similar perfume from different brands and I accept that fact but this should perhaps be reflected in the price point here? Perhaps putting it in a less expensive bottle or not having ornate boxes which require a key to get into!
I do appreciate that the atomizer travel spray is beautiful and I do in fact own one, the refills are a great idea and a cheaper option.

Right enough of that what about this juice? Smoke for the soul is excellent! Truly a wonderful scent heady, earthy, green and smoky.
All true but one thing instantly came to mind...
KINSKI.
Yep I interrupted the girl at the By Kilian counter as she was about to tell me how original it was... "This is very reminiscent of KINSKI."
and it is but again there's subtle differences. The smoke smells slightly different here as if a different wood is burning. I actually tried them against each other when I got home and the likeness is significant but not absolute.
The opening is one of bright eucalyptus and a citrus note but not as fresh or prominent as it is in Kinski.
As for the 'Cannabis' note I was a habitual, massive pothead for years and although I can see how this might be construed as a ganja note, I've smelled more convincing ones.
Very woody base of birch tar, I don't know what mate is to be honest but there's a vetiver type smell in here.
For all intents and purposes this base is covered in my collection, without saying this is a copycat because the subtle differences (lack of animalic quality for example) are enough to make it worth a sniff and perhaps some will prefer it?
The longevity is okay and it has moderate projection to begin with.

Certainly gimmicky, but it does walk an appropriate line between authentically weed-like and somewhat wearable. When the initial smell hits, it certainly triggers the association to marijuana, but within seconds it becomes clear that what you’re smelling is little more than sage with some additional culinary herbs added. It is very convincing at first, though. What follows is a camphorous, minty herbal thing that’s nicely shaped, but a bit too one-trick-pony. Aspects of Kinski emerge in the juniper/citrus vein, but a tobacco note steps in to round out the journey whereas Kinski steps up the interest with some major animalics.

The problem with weed scents is that they’re so gimmicky that they have to work extra hard to actually use the note in surprising ways. Smoke for the Soul fails in that regard in that the top notes are an exercise in replication (and are really convincing), but what follows is mundane, slightly mentholated vagueness of no great distinction.

aphexacid

When i first sprayed this on skin, the smell reminded me of weed when you sniff it in the baggie.

That smell quickly moved on to become a very dated peppery/lemon/vetiver.

Super boring. Does NOT smell like weed smoke.

Questionable performance.

My advice is sample it just to appease your curiosity.

lloydbruno

Not what I expected. Is it bad? No. But it's not surprising, it's just nice.

In his opening, I feel very pronounced and very natural eucalyptus, as if I smelled directly eucalyptus leaves, and in the background, in the background I feel the Mate, and a very slight touch of citrus.

After a few minutes, eucalyptus gives way to Matte, also with a very natural, bitter smell, perhaps by mixing with tobacco, not sure. This bitter green smell follows for a long time, about 3 hours on my skin.

After that time, I identify a smoky green aroma, but nothing referring me cannabis, just the smell of green bush burned, to the end. Did not work on me. Very long lasting on the skin and has good quality. But disappoint in smell and evolution.

Q80

oh.. what is this? really what is this?
it's not smoke for the heart, it is a smell of something i know very well but i can't recall what it is. maybe it is like a lemon squeezed on fatoosh salad! (fatoosh salad is a lebenese salad contains tomatoes, onion, lettuce, cucumber, and fry bread pieces, all mixed together then you pour lemon, vinegar, and balsamic vinegar, mix them together and serve). but there is also something mix with that i know very well but i can't really figure it out now!
this is really weird!

edit:oh yeah i got it, it smells like drugs i guess, something i smelled next to a club in Paris when i passed by. someone was smoking a bizarre looking hand made cigarette, so definitely it's either weed, or joint, or whatever. and to be specific: it's a lighter version of the weird note you find in black afghano by Nasomatto.

muzzbait

trialling/reviewing this again, and i must've received the wrong sample! all i'm getting is rhubarb freshness with a little citrus zing! no cannibis, no smokiness and certainly no eucalyptus (i know this smell intimately, i had about 10 different varieties around my house -- i'm australian). i'm totally off, methinks...

NeoXerxes

Absolutely repugnant fragrance. It reminds me of stoned addicts, complete with vacant and bloodshot eyes, with shaggy clothes that reek of weed and sweat. And to make things worse, this fragrance adds a pronounced eucalyptus note, as if the wearer has been sucking on mints or cough drops to cover up their marijuana-infused breath.

If you are looking to attract the attention of the DEA or your local policing establishment, look no further! The rest of us should avoid this like the plague.

Why would anyone pay money to smell like a habitual drug user?

Manny44

Tremendous amount of mentholated eucalyptus and sharp Cannibis that is pretty harsh. Also has that Tobacco , ashy note in Tom Ford Tobacco Oud.When it calms down after a few minutes It reminded me of Memoir Man in a way but much less creamy and less wearable. This is sharp and challenging in its own way. I didn't love it or even really like it but I do respect the composition and its ingredients. What I wasn't expecting from this fragrance was that it would disappear after 2 hours.

Update:Yeesh....second wearing and, yeah, this is pretty hideous. This just isn't wearable. Unpleasant and inappropriate in pretty much any company. Total fiasco.

seekritdude

Whenever I see the supposed cannabis note I cant help but think of Black Afgano since well that seems to be the most hyped fragrance that some people say smells like weed....

Well for me BA didnt smell like weed when I smelled it. But this however perhaps although not weed exactly it certainly was very "stoner" sorta smelling. So I felt the name actually fits. I could wear this and definitely imagine myself smoking with friends. Then again why I would wear this while smoking with friends in the first place is another question but lol anyway...

Compared to something like BA this is much more green, and smokey and "fresh". Where as BA is much more rich, and thick, and creamy. However saying that when I smelled Smoke for the soul I did think of Black afgano.

I got a fair amount of eucalyptus out of this as well which would randomly give it a sorta vicks vapor rub element smell to it at times hiding underneath all the smokey yet pleasant in its own kinda novelty sorta way smell.

Id say it probably smells better than BA for me. BA is pretty blah, and even on days ive thought it smells good sometimes it makes me a little sick the times ive tried it. And even saying that ive never once gotten any positive feedback on BA. Where as this doesnt seeem particularly offensive to me.

Also id like to mention perhaps placebo effect but I even got a bit of a alcohol or boozy note in this.. Placebo effect because of name? Im not sure but there was something else going on here or some mix of notes that adding something else interesting to the mix.

That being said however this performed the worst out of the 3 new by kilians.. I got 5 maybe 6 hours. And it was quite light. After that it was a skin scent in every sense of the word. And at times even worse. Only randomly I might get a wiff of something. So it was hard to even judge how long it truly lasted...

I plan on testing it again. But as it is, a nice smell in its own kinda way, but for the price really awful.

becuille

This smells exactly like someone smoking a joint. All I get from it is cannabis, start to finish. Very, very pungent cannabis.

It's strong and lasts all day, but considering it makes me smell like I'm doing drugs, that's not a good thing in my book.

It feels gimmicky to me. I just cannot imagine paying this sort of price to smell like a group of teenagers in the back row of the bus.

Mikeyd

Smells like weed

muzzbait

wow...i totally missed this one!

at first, i thought i was getting a massive dose of rhubarb or vetiver-with-something, but i guess that must've been the pot leaf! i've never smelt cannabis before, so it threw me, i guess...anyway, it's quite fresh and upbeat, not getting any (or much) smokiness in this. either i've missed the point or i have the wrong scent...

ScentedGent1

The opening is quite smoky which is good if you like your pit smoky aura - but it quickly develops into something more.

A green herbal essence develops with a woody note which is really beautiful as it is daring. A bitter citrus oil is also ever-present which I quite like.

It is a good complimentary scent in his line-up which should get quite a few fans.

Would I wear it? I am not so sure as there are so many other smoky alternatives such as the aforementioned Memoir Man by Amouage. The Amouage however, shares similar performance with this Kilian.

dbg92

This is one I did not really expect to like.

Having just graduated from college, I can assure you that I am quite familiar with the smell of cannabis, although I've never smoked, myself. Cannabis usually smells acrid to me, stale, and it is almost always accompanied by obnoxious party-goers. But I digress...

I really, really like this one! As far as first impressions go, Smoke For The Soul has knocked it out of the park. This cannabis smells good! I've only had it on for about fifteen minutes, but I'll let you what I'm thinking as I smell it.

When I first sprayed my sample on, it was very... Not refreshing, exactly, but a bit bracing. If you know Memoir Man, the opening here has the same vibe as the opening does there. They don't smell the same, but they give off the same feeling. It's very green, very piquant. That's likely the eucalyptus playing its part. That dies down after a few minutes, and then then the mate comes forward. Monsieur Pellegrin has rendered it such that one can almost feel the mate; there is definitely a texture there. The grapefuit is subtle, but it is there, and it combines beautifully with the cashmir wood and cardamom to make this scent just right. I'm extremely impressed, as By Kilian scents are usually hit or miss with me.

This also seems like a Vivaldi to me. I think you could use this all throughout the year. As for whether you could wear it to work... I'll let you make that decision on your own.

Initial rating: 4 out of 5 stars, on scent alone.
I'll return after more testing to discuss my thoughts on longevity, projection and anything else I can think of.

Scentmad

Heady and somewhat masculine, this is really rather good. It has that blue-woodsmoke-heavy-with-tabacco quality, it's also weedy (as in a joint),leathery and spicy too - there is also a hint of citrus which is rather daring given the overtly spicy/smoky structure.

I don't think, IMHO, it can be compared to the likes of the original tabac blonde because it is a little sweeter and more akin to Fumerie Turque by Serge Lutens .

I think this is the sort of perfume that is a grower with a little effort on the wearers part. It's not an "spritz and go", it's intelligently thought out in composition and deserves a bit of understanding. For me, a lover of heady but unusual perfumes, I think this is terrific but it has taken me some wears to meld with it.
