Declaration d'Un Soir by Cartier is a Woody Floral Musk fragrance for men. Declaration d'Un Soir was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Mathilde Laurent. Top notes are Black Pepper, Cardamom and Caraway; middle notes are Rose and Nutmeg; base note is Sandalwood.

Cartier is revamping one of their best-selling fragrances in the entire portfolio, Déclaration, a masculine cologne by perfume Jean Claude Ellena, with a new flanker, out in the mainstream Cartier counters in October 2012.

Déclaration d'un Soir, a new fragrance for men, reprises the cold spices of the original, thanks to perfumer Mathilde Laurent's idea of not messing with something good but going for a much more subversive interpretation in men's fragrance. Essentially a huge rose with thorns, given the woody backdrop, it is boosted with cardamom and a very perceptible pepper spray top note to refresh and give piquancy. The woodiness comes from sandalwood.

A romantic and heady affair, in house Cartier perfume Mathilde Laurent revealed that she created it to "make the heart beat faster and to drive men to speak their minds."

The concentration of Déclaration d'un Soir is Eau de Toilette, coming in 100ml/3.4oz sizes. The new bottle is identical to the classic Déclaration, with its watch wrist winder top, but with Déclaration d'un Soir written vertically under the name to denote the different take.

Rotten Rose

Blind bought this fragrance for a small fortune thinking it would be a little more gothic like Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose or even Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin. Instead, this is a bright, fresh, and peppery rose. Picture a bright red rose that was just picked, not a wilted rose at all. Nice scent overall just not for me. Selling the bottle for $180CAD on Kijiji, if interested. Used on exactly one occasion - 3 sprays. Waterloo, ON.

Cristian2021

light, fresh, easy to use, easy to please people and at the same time it is very particular and different, it is not for everyone or for a person who has not had much experience on Fragances since the rose note is predominant (of course if like rose as much as I do you can blind buy it ) not A fresh perfume for men with such a noticeable rose note is common, although this is clearly a masculine rose, since it is very spicy, a fresh but intense spiciness (green spiciness), almost very peppery with a well-rounded polished woody background not sharp, and has certain tones like a "blue fragrance" type clean-amber that simply makes an accompaniment; Its fixation on the skin is more than 10 hours, its intensity (sillage) is strong for the first hour and a half, then it is moderate for about six more hours, without a doubt a fresh perfume with good duration, mature, classy, and very interesting and not at all generic.

metalliclaugh

got compliments for this! I like that it is different! not like common blue or spicy or oud or sweet fragrances!
fresh, clean with little spicy and non sweet rose!
its performance confused me: sometimes excellent sillage and longivity and sometimes just moderate...maybe its performance is sensitive to weather or humidity...I believe it is a safe blind buy!

There's nothing like it on the Market. None. Truly a Masterpiece. I can see Joe Black from the movie "Meet Joe Black (1998) wearing this one

Do you like sweet, bubble gum, obnoxiously loud, beast mode in all your fragrances, do us a favor and stop whimpering.
This is a classic scent.
For those like the person below me, think this is not masculine, well, I should add: this is for confident men, not kids that follow the top 10 panty droppers list from YouTubers.

- 8 sprays (2 on clothes)
Opens with a refresh cardamom and some other fresh spices.
5 minutes or so later, the rose pops up, and it’s watery, not jammy. Very refreshing rose that is light.
The first 1-1.5 hours projects nicely, but is not loud. After that, has a nice scent bubble with an elegant vibe.
Longevity is great for an EDT. 8-10 hours.
The rose dissipates on the 5-6 hour, and only stays very very faint with the woods.

Spring and Fall in a bottle. Summer, you can also wear it but less sprays.

If you like YSL Ultime, you will like this.
I have backup bottle of both because I love them.
YSL Ultime is more relax, that you can dress up. D’un Soir is casual to formal.
At the end you can wear it anyway you want. That was just to draw a comparison.

Cheers to all….. kiddos can raise their milk zippy cup.

Got to sample this one.
On my clothes this is a fresh, peppery, soapy rose, sandalwood fragrance. On my skin it’s mainly pepper and sandalwood, and I swear i smelled vetiver on the late late drydown.
The projection is ok, but the longevity is amazing, like 12hr plus.
I would probably wear this if it wasn’t discontinued, 70 bucks for 100ml of this is a great deal.

Declaration d'Un Soir is INCREDIBLE. A breathtakingly masculine rose. I think the bottle I was gifted must be from the earlier batches, because its performance is stellar on me, consistently pushing 14 hours of duration with very appropriate sillage. This is not a jammy, gourmand rose. This is a thorny, green, self-assuming rose that blooms against the pepper and caraway of the opening. Strangely, I detect no body-odor-like cumin in the flanker, unlike the original. The rose stays strong all throughout, permeating the experience until the creamy sandalwood drydown. A masterpiece to my nose.

fragranceconstruct

This is the most photorealistic Men's rose scent I have smelt, fresh rose petals after a rain storm are the main player here.

It leans Masculine due to the orbiting notes. How the perfumer achieved this shows her genius.

It's sparkly and very sophisticated. I feel this is a more dressed up fragrance.

I've yet to smell anything like it in the designer fragrance world.

Masterpiece, sad it's discontinued.

Osmistis

Masterpiece of a fragrance. One of the best opening I"ve ever smelled. Photorealistic rose petals with spicies are surrounding you just after you spray.. Very smooth, bright and addictive smell. Definitely niche quality. Suits all year long. I prefer to wear it in special occasion.

This perfume holds a special place in my heart. I was returning to my birthplace in sunny Africa for an important occasion and had this recommended at Heathrow Airport's Duty-Free. That was 10 years ago. I can still smell the beauty of the perfume as I stepped out of the airport into the African sunshine. It's fair to say, I was intoxicated by it before my relatives succumbed to its spell as they embraced me.

Lulushka

Galileo once said that the existence of fine wine is proof that (1) God exists and (2) that he wants us to be happy. (He was most likely thinking of Tuscan wine, and I often have similar thoughts over a glass of Chianti—even some of the most humble small production wines from that region can be transcendental). I have similar ideas about Declaration d’Un Soir—not that I need proof of Mathilde Laurent’s existence, but experiencing this perfume is convincing evidence that she is a beneficent entity with superpowers, and also that she wants us to be happy. Because this perfume is *gorgeous* and it has a transcendent beauty which demonstrates that it is indeed possible for designer perfume to have all the interesting qualities one usually has to seek out in niche perfumery, all while playing by the rules of the restrictive rule book that governs the ingredients and stylistic options available to its perfumers.

The original Declaration (different perfumer, different perfume) is also a marvel, a transparent and very modern almost but not quite aquatic spicy vetiver that I also wear and love. Mme Laurent chose to do an evening/formal variation not in the usual way—say, by adding a ton of woody amber and tonka bean and bumping the concentration to Parfum—but through the addition of a gorgeous spiced rose, still sparklingly transparent: a figurative boutonnière for the wearer’s buttonhole, in the famous signature scarlet shade of the perfume’s house to boot. The rose itself is gorgeous: spicy and a dark enough to be little gothic, with plush, velvety winey damascones darkened with a complex hint of black pepper. Normally this kind of rose would be a dense vortex, an olfactoriaely opaque expression of drowning in the deepest petals of a never ending bloom; instead. Declaration d’Un Soir is like the petals of that same exquisite rose scattered in a layer over a sparkling fountain—or a bathtub scented with rare spices.

Laurent’s skill really shows in all the ways the perfume defies convention. It’s a rose composition that avoids the usual rose perfume clichés—nothing here suggests Barbara Cartland novels, or 1980s bath beads, or rose petal potpourri, or female sanitary products. Possibly this is because it doesn’t rely on a musk base, as rosy musks are often the culprits in most of those cases, so this perfume shows that a rose need not be kitschy or cloyingly sentimental to be a satisfying rose scent.

There seems to be a growing family of these gorgeous modern roses that defy conventions: Galop d’Hermès is another example. This is a really exciting development in contemporary perfumery, and I say this as someone who loves many of the old-fashioned and sometimes schmaltzy roses. I can get behind anything that brings new and young perfume seekers and lovers to rose perfumes. And this goes double if it brings guys to the yard who might not normally consider wearing rose perfumes.

Declaration d’Un Soir isn’t even a “starter” or gateway rose—it’s a full fledged, real deal, complete rose fragrance, and a solid contender for *anyone* who wants a floral or rose scent for their fragrance wardrobe. It’s also a great option if you just need to add something more suitable for evening, although I don’t think it has any qualities that particularly restrict it to one time of day. (Men outside of the West have long known this; I hope the rest of the world is finally catching up). I think it’s unisex—my taste runs pretty femmey, and I wear this all the time. Its transparency makes it a good choice in warm weather, when a more conventional rose might choke someone out, and its spiciness makes it especially enjoyable in autumn. Its sheer composition style also makes it more work-appropriate than its name might suggest. However, just because it’s not dense doesn’t mean it’s not strong; it projects well and requires only a couple of spritzes to do the job. I get at least twelve hours on my skin, and the dry down is fantastic.

In case anyone thinks I’m on the Cartier payroll or I write nice things about Mathilde Laurent, I’ll add this: sometimes I wish I loved the feminines she does for Cartier as much as I do the unisex and masculines. Don’t get me wrong: I like La Panthiere, and I own and wear Baisier (it’s a lily, so it seems to work best in spring). But she has created some stunners in her time at Cartier, and Declaration d’Un Soir is one of her best. Not only is it all the things I’ve mentioned above, but it’s also a perfect fragrance for this particular house. Laurent has said that she wants her perfumes to be like Cartier’s jewels, and this one fits the brief. With its evocative fragrance in its transparent setting, it creates a synesthetic ruby sparkle worthy of a great jewel house. While Cartier was relatively late—and somewhat accidental—to the perfume game, their fragrances seem to actually synergize with and enhance, rather than distract from or cheapen, the house’s main business. And they’re providing beautiful things for those of us who can’t buy the expensive rocks in the cases inside the boutiques.

This is amazing when it's super hot. Wow!

Clixwell

This smells like it should have been a Le Labo fragrance. A little bit of Another 13, a little of Thé Matcha.

It’s definitely got something sexy about it, I just don’t necessarily think it’s the rose. I’d wear this on a date for sure.

Eau de kev53

Ladies and gentleman I’ve had this fragrance sitting under my cabinet in my bathroom for at least 2 years. Had forgotten about it actually. So one evening after work took a shower and decided to look under my cabinet to look at what choices I had to just apply something different from what I’ve been using. Looked at this tall sleek and slim bottle and pulled it out and said to myself, Hummm declaration 🤔 so I dropped down that unique clasp and got to spraying my neck and……… OMG!!! It was magic, the rose just hit me like a Freightliner truck lol!! This smelled so so good. My fiancé came over later that evening and I didn’t say a word or asked if she liked what I was wearing. She quickly said even before hey babe!!! What is that you have on?!!! OMG that smells so SEXY! I knew this was a hit!! If you guys and even females can get your hands on this, and I said hands not nose because you don’t need to smell it first just get it. I have a few rose fragrances and I must say this is absolutely beautiful and sexy. Thanks for reading and God bless you all, love you and I don’t need to know you💞💞💞🙏🏾

Simply a beautiful and soul-loving fragrance

i was told i smell like a hippie

Kubilayturan

Opens up with airy rose , cardamom with a slightly vetiver feeling. Vetiver is not listed but I get a very fresh vetivery feeling at the background. After around 1h it melts down to Cartier L’envol EdP. I don’t know why no one mentioned it but you have to check out these 2 fragrances. The drydowns are almost idenrical.

Very elegant , gentlemanly , long lasting and pleasant scent.

TripleA

This is the best Rose scent I have ever tried. Really elegant feel. The first 2 second blast gives me this Rosy Silver Mountain Water vibe which then descends deep down into a dark Peppery Rose with some of those spices in there too, very nicely blended. It's also a concentrated juice, leaving my hand oily after I sprayed it.

Stunning and is really good when you want something new that isn't outlandish but still different. I think this could make the most beautiful evening scent.

Toserferenc

The most beautiful real rose scent! And I tried many rose fragrances, even the most expensive ones, for example royal crown - al kimya.

Johan-Peter

A true gem created by Cartier.
Most of the time I don’t like the “variations on a theme” edt’s, but this is an exception.
One of my (many) favourites.

caffeinatedpony

Great fragrance, even better atomizer

Cholera

This a unique and different one. The rose is so dominant, up close on my skin it reminds me of an old lady perfume but in the air especially after the dry down it smells classy, elegant and mature, the pepper note makes it unisex slightly masculine. Not a safe blind buy especially for younger folks.

AScentedFox

I'm new to the hobby and Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir is by far the most interesting fragrance I've tried. The scent is quite linear so it's not about the complexion. It's just that to my amateur nose I've never smelled anything quite like it. I feel like this should be the aim of perfumery, creations that make you go "Wow, this is different... and it's great!".

KaiserSoze

I really enjoy this! I can definitely see why some would say it leans more unisex because of the rose/floral undertones, I find this to be a really masculine, sexy fragrance. This is a perfect Spring/Fall scent that would still work well in the winter and summer. While this is unique, you can absolutely pull this off in an office setting. You will stand out when wearing this!

Jagjag

A professional non- offensive fragrance. Got a decant so that I could evaluate it thoroughly. Not an instant love on my skin. The rose note was pleasant. I am not a fan of rose, but here, it was nice. Longevity was average, approx 6 hours. More of a close proximity scent. A nice all rounder.

Relitaliano

Phenomenal fragrance! @Tings You are spot on…”Quite rose-centric opening with a nice fresh greenness to it.” mixed with invigorating Black Pepper, which is simply intoxicating. The Rose is perfectly balanced with the spiciness and gives a very effervescent, flirty vibe! I wish the projection was more pronounced, (1-2 hrs) but this type of fragrance is more elegant than bombastic

@FragranceYYC 02/13/23

Very accurate Review of this fragrance

Tings

Quite rose-centric opening with a nice fresh greenness to it. It's supported by those "blue" aromachemicals in it that you'll find in many masculine fragrances, so for me that tips this undoubtedly masculine-leaning. A few hours into the dry-down this is a fairly safe fougere fragrance leaning on some rose to give it some more complexity. I like it, and if you can get it for a reasonable/standard price, it's worth it.

Simoben

I’m not crazy, but in the mid, I get some aqua di gio Profumo similarity with an added rose note.
I think it’s coming from the fresh spices both fragrances have.
I’m not saying that one smells like the other or they are similar. It just gave me those ADG Profumo vibes!

MikeRauch

This fragrance conjures up an image of a rose bush after the rain on a spring or cooler summer day. It starts out quite green and slightly spicy and settles down to a beautiful fresh rose. This could be interpreted as a different take on a freshie. I don't believe it should have been marketed under the Declaration name as this and the intense version are completely different from the rest of the line. Performance on this is what you would expect from a lighter, fresher fragrance. I get around 6 hours total and projection is somewhat close. This could easily be worn year round, and for any occasion. A good mood lifter. A simple, classy fragrance. This gets an easy 5/5 for me.

FragranceYYC

Use case:
Preferred season: Spring/Fall, but can work any season.
Preferred time of day (daytime, night time): Personally, I prefer evening/night time but it is also versatile in this manner.
Special events: Absolutely. Dates, black tie events, you name it.

Fragrance: 9.5/10
Perfumer: Mathilde Laurent - very impressed in her work with this house
Top notes (subjective): Easily the best and most natural rose you will get in a masculine fragrance. No syrupy gimmicks. @ManicMonkey84 said it best. This is a natural rose with the stems and leaves. With the background peppery spice, its akin to fresh rose thorns stimulating your olfactory senses (in a positive manner). I can see why people say earthy and bring up soil, but to me this is more reminiscent of fresh flowing mountainside water trickling down the stems. It doesn't help that I am an absolute sucker for cardamom which I do indeed sense. Interestingly, not all sources list cardamom as a note....
Drydown (subjective): Nice dialed down woody base, although I disagree with many reviewers below in that I still get a beautiful lingering rose. In dry-downs, I don't always look for uniqueness. I want a daring but equally safe fragrance aura. There is nothing to critique here.
Structure (linear or complex): Complex
Unique (yes or no): Yes. I am a rose junkie and although people like the gentleman below me think this may be common, I would be hard-pressed to name a niche rose fragrance that smells similar. I have tried many and they don't to me.
Versatility (poor, average, great, phenomenal): Great/phenomenal
Compliments (below average, average, above average, insane): Insane !!!
Overall thoughts: I have had various male friends want to order this immediately after smelling it on me. I have had ladies in cafes or various other environments ask me what I'm wearing - typically for their partners. I think the "daring" part of this fragrance is that outside of the fragrance community (what most of the general population is) it is extremely difficult to hit the nail on a rose fragrance that doesn't lean feminine or doesn't have too much nonsense going on. What we consider unisex is often considered by the general population to be feminine.

Performance: 8.5/10
Sillage (low, medium, high, extreme): high
Projection (low, medium, high, extreme): high
Projection duration (hrs): Up to 3 hours
Longevity (on skin): ~6hrs
Longevity (on clothes): +7hrs
Heat compatibility: Not tested and although initially I would have considered this an usual time to wear this fragrance, I am more inclined to wear on hot summer days this year for testing. I am also experimenting with signature scents, and Declaration d'Un Soir is at the top of my list.
Overall thoughts: Performance is great, especially considering it maintains the character of the rose throughout. Easy to become nose-blind, but rest easy, others can smell the presence of this elegant yet daring fragrance.

Overall: 9.5/10
Value for money (poor, average, good, great): GREAT
Recommendation (skip, test, buy, strong buy): Strong buy - while you can. This is one of my favorite fragrances on the market (I own around 100 after recently downsizing, but have tested in the thousands). This fragrance is not confused about it's goal, nor is it a messy byproduct of perfumer entropy (which I find many niche or niche-quality fragrances to be - in fact, many niche fragrances have such a positive bias towards elements of chaos, although they suffer to be enjoyed by most people due to this very fact). This fragrance is exactly as advertised and stunning at that. If impressions are your thing, then very few fragrances have garnered so much positive attention.

Cheers,

I am changing it from dislike to love 🙏🏻
Last year i got a bottle and ended up gifting it to someone who loved it. I disliked it. Now, from the same bottle, had 2 sprays and couldn't believe how good it is.
Same notes, but i appreciate it so much now. Had to find another bottle and today i have my own full bottle.
Wearing it and loving it. ❤️

Previous Review
Got a big bottle at an amazing clearance price so blind bought this.
While OG was instant love, this was instant regret.
Opening is like everyone says, quite a strong peppery rose.
But after you get over with that, it's a camphoric rose and that stays till the end.
Gifted to someone who really appreciate this perfume. That's what the fragrance game is. Someone hates it, someone appreciates it.

Niicolas

The opening is refreshing and moist, like morning dew.
During the summer, I almost want to spray it on my face.
It has been discontinued for a long time, but I don't regret it, it's a very classy perfume, but it doesn't have a solid base... it doesn't leave much interesting and deep after the opening.
Perfume of ephemeral pleasure, it is perhaps more the perfume of a flirty passionate about women, in search of sex for an evening, more than a declaration....

Akkaz عکاظ

It uses rose a bit differently, a unique beauty. i love it.
A different treat for Rose lovers.

PerfumeAficionadoMTY

What and absolute awesome fragrance, currently I have like 50 and this is on my top 5 hands down. Maybe it’s because I love floral perfumes at any level. It’s not an easy fragrance, don’t for a daily use, keep it to nice events you have, you sure will get attention with this perfume.

Perfumist007

@felopian kid

A residual smell from an old pickle jar? Seriously? Now i know that fragrances are very subjective and skin chemistry plays a huge role to the olfactory senses, But a jar of pickles? This is why it is so difficult to rely on other people's reviews, especially here on fragrantica. It is the extravagance of such reviews that make this site what it currently is.

This is just a simple fresh spicy fragrance with some floral/rose nuances. It still retains its original DNA but with the caraway dialed way down with this one. Fresh, spicy and rosey. Simple. No need to overdo things here. Performance is just good, nothing too extreme.

CaptainPers

From the very beginning, green notes are felt from the skin, as if the rose is mixed with the stem and leaves, while the rose sounds very natural. Pepper and sandal are well audible. It is due to the bright pepper (sometimes it even tickles in the nose, as if it were natural))) the fragrance does not slip into a frankly feminine / unisex, and I also think it is the pepper and sandal that gives the feeling of something in common with Prada Lhomme. There is an experience of using so far only in the fall, in the winter it will be no worse. But it’s hard to say how he will show himself in summer and spring, but I think that with a moderate dosage everything will be in perfect order.
Longevity is normal, the sillage is noticeable due to the uniqueness of the fragrance. Very unusual for a masculine fragrance. But, I like it!) It is also universal in terms of time of day, but still I have a feeling that the fragrance should be chosen in terms of clothes, I can't imagine myself wearing it when I wear sportswear.
For a long time I was looking for a fragrance with a dominant rose (queen of flowers))))
Blind buying, as always, lived up to my expectations.

Dgm8822

Good for winter mornings having high humidity.

Wear it with a white suit to an open air wedding. You will rule the occasion.

Limited wearability.

Overall a bombastic scent but only if you can manage to pair it with appropriate attire and occasion.

What an amazing perfume.

A completely blind buy for me, I had no idea how Declaration d'Un Soir smell - I actually had no idea even how the original Declaration smell - but I stumbled upon a huge discount online which was hard to ignore.

Using rose for a scent marketed as "masculine" is quite hard, men are not very used to smell roses on them, moreover it is quite a difficult task to make a remarkable rose perfume in general - the best "masculine" rose perfume has been Azzaro Acteur, a forgotten discontinued masterpiece which unfortunately failed to make any impact during the "Cool Water" mania era and did terribly in sales.

Declaration d'Un Soir uses rose a bit differently than Acteur, here we have a "dirty" rose, full of thorns and soil, the "Turkish delight" comparison is on point, when it reaches the dry down it indeed reminds me of the smell of turkish delight. That beautiful rose is accompanied by lots of pepper and some tones of sandalwood - I even detect bits of citrus notes as well. It's not as peppery as Toy Boy by Moschino, it feels absolutely unisex to my nose (all scents are unisex for me whatsoever but I get the marketing pushing certain scents to certain gender) and it is so well composed that it feels like a niche release. Hard to believe it is now discontinued - I can understand why it didn't sell well, especially in a world where aggressive and fully chemical messes thrive commercially - but available with huge discount online, though I'm not very sure how long it will still be available.

A huge love from me, I think I will stock up with this one, I am quite addicted to its unique smell and niche quality. Well done Cartier!

SAMPSODX

Think rose water with a bit of spice.
Initially it reminded me of Turkish Delight.

It is very unique and smells sensual. It’s weird, but I love it and want more at the same time.

I love the lock on the sprayer, bottle is excellent.

Overall 9/10 and I think could be signature worthy. Feels very versatile.

jellisunc

This is the classiest rose I have smelled - just refined and gentleman to the absolute extreme. Tailor perfectly for hot summer days. Loving this concoction!

EDIT: kind of reminds me of a roseier Eldo Exit the King (opposed to the jasmine).

JmThms

I don't like the original Declaration. In fact, due to its overbearing cumin accord, not only is it not a "masterpiece" (lol), but imo it's poor perfumery. Evidently the Cartier house DNA cozies up way too much to the cumin accord (caraway or cumin note). Because of that I have stayed away from Cartier fragrances. But I kept hearing about this D'un Soir and how different it was. Then when Joy Amin, who doesn't like Declaration OG either, did a YouTube review praising D'un Soir, I decided to get a decant to try. This may be the only rose scent that's not amber-heavy that I like. Rose in perfumery comes across as "plasticky" to me, especially when strong and dominant. Thats why I don't like Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady and my favorite rose-prominent scents are heavy amber scents like Dolce&Gabbana The One Mysterious Night. The amber tames the Rose. Cartier D'un Soir does drydown with that overly strong plasticky rose but it's better than Portrait of a Lady. It's not amber-heavy at all but the aromatics in the opening are beautifully blended with a more controlled rose note. I wish the aromatics exerted their influence longer into the mid to at least help keep that rose in check, but interestingly the pepper-caraway reassert their tangy influence further into the drydown as the rose fades more into the background. As a matter of fact the tangy pepper in the drydown is reminiscent to Terre d'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche, to me. That rose does radiate quite intensely in the mid for a while though. Caraway is present but it's very controlled throughout and certainly doesn't manifest as body odor as the OG does. It blends nicely with the pepper to give proper bite and thorniness to the rose. I think this is full bottle worthy for me.

Declaration D'un Soir, a flanker to Jean Claude Ellena's masterpiece, an inspirational DNA (the original)
There are many Declaration flankers, some of them borrowing Ellena's primary idea, others are stand alone entities.

This one is a unique beauty. One can tell it's Declaration in spirit due to the lack of sweetness and the fresh spicy character, but this Soir version really is a fresh dewy rose that's more "toute la journée" than it is "nocturne". An elegant peppery green rose that comes across wet, a little abstract with the support of the spices (cumin, nutmeg) and absolutely fresh. This can be worn anytime, anywhere, with any type of attire. It might be a linear composition without surprises, but it lasts for a really long time and creates a very sophisticated aura around the wearer.

I am not a rose lover in perfume, but this is a different type of rose. A simplistic fresh rose.

Out of the whole Declaration range, I only like three: Original, Essence and this. I only bought the Mathilde Laurent creation though, as much as I love Ellena's work. Ellena's Hermès creations are closer to my tastes.

Declaration D'un Soir to me is the three R's:

romantic, refreshing, radiant.

Three years ago I bought the 100 ml bottle and really enjoyed the scent, but last year it first lost its initial freshness and shortly after that I could barely smell it.
This winter I bought same perfume again (100 ml from notino), but unfortunately I wore it only once, because by the time spring came it was already unrecognizable.
Something is rotten in the state of Cartier. I kept these bottles the same way as my other perfumes which are still as good as the first day.

Many masculine rose fragrances are somewhat formal and evoke expensive soirées; this newer flanker of an old Cartier classic is far less refined, and instead evokes a fresher, natural daytime rose, despite the name, and seems greener and more youthful. The black pepper on top also stops it from seeming too romantic and makes it seem surprisingly more natural.

This would be a superb go-to fragrance for everyday use--I can imagine wearing it almost anywhere without it seeming heavy. The sandalwood comes in very nicely at the finish. This reminds me yet again how incredibly versatile gifted perfumers are at evoking freshness without always having to resort just to citrus notes: I never would have looked at the note pyramid on this and assumed it would be as light and clean as it is.

I received multiple compliments for wearing this almost as soon as I walked out the door.

UPDATE 4/7/21: I loved this so much I bought a full bottle at a great price at an online discounter.

Springtime bottled.

I've had a bottle some years ago and found the scent to be very weak on my skin. I recently purchased a new bottle and now it performs much better. Versatile spicy rose scent with a sandalwood base. Synthetic at times but the quality is there. Overall transparent and fresh in nature, not too thick or dense as many rose based fragrances can be. Definitely a masculine take on rose, and it doesn't smell feminine just because there is a rose note. I don't really get any caraway. A well made pepper-rose-sandalwood combo which can be worn year round. Personally I'm not the biggest rose fan, but this is up there as one of my favorite fresh rose based scents. Hats off to Laurent, one of her best creations for Cartier if you ask me. Performance is fine, creating a nice scent bubble.

I have a rectangle shaped bottle with the black box, but I've seen they changed the box as well as the bottle to the same shape as the regular Declaration, with the round, heart shaped silhouette. Not sure if this means it's reformulated, just thought it was strange they'd change the bottle as it's fine the way it is.

@darabmir , No. Using the "U" for "you" is not someone with English as second language . It's a sign of a lazy pot smoking text-speaking 21 year old.

The perfume, although it bears the name (declaration), but it does not look like the original timeless perfume, but it is a completely different perfume.
The fragrance begins with a sharp and warm scent of black pepper, an uncommon opening, and may be unpalatable to many.
After that, the red rose note enters, with a wet smell, like a fresh wet, dewy red rose, which you smell in the morning, the smell of strong, prominent and pungent roses، And this smell persists until the end - of the life - of the perfume, but it changes as time progresses, until it loses moisture and dew.
The base with sandalwood smells beautiful, soft and luxurious, with very little incense.
So, it is a perfume that starts hot and then turns into a scent of rose and ends with a soft and elegant sandalwood scent with a touch of incense, high quality ingredients that most designer perfumes miss.
Perfume is a creative work for lovers of the rose note, and it is a nightmare for those who do not like this note, it is a perfume that you either love or hate, there is no neutrality with d'un soir, so you must try it before buying.
Some find it like (amouage lyric men) and (Moschino toy poy) because of the rose note, as well as (acqua di gio profumo) because of the wood and incense, but d'un soir has an independent personality, and many find it, including me, that it is very special and beautiful.
The perfume can be worn by young people from the age of 20 years and above, and for all occasions, and with all clothes, but I think that with casual it is better, and its smell in spring becomes more beautiful, however, it is okay in summer and winter .
This perfume is elegant and luxurious, it is the smell of a moist rose garden, its longevity is very good, its sillage is good, and its bottle is wonderful.

Someone hates it, someone appreciates it.

ahmadalsaady

I got a sample when I bought an ADGP a while ago and I just fell in love with it, I really liked the black pepper kick and the performance so I decided to get a full bottle but unfortunately it performs poorly and lacks the pepper kick that I liked about it.

discardedandroid

Probably the best rose-forward fragrance I've smelled. In the air the rose is wrapped in smooth and woody notes. Starts a bit spicy but rather quickly dries down to that smooth, elegant, warm floral. I prefer Creed Viking for something rosy but this is definitely worthy of consideration for someone looking for a masculine rose. Recommend.

In Fragrant Bliss

Simple yet distinguished!
A spiced watery Bulgarian Rose over a woody Sandalwood.
Backed by synthetics the roses intense, stops strangers in their way, just to take a little sniff of the ripples it creates in the air.

This scent is if Moschino’s Toy Boy accidentally knocked someone up and decided to raise the kid and become a loving father.

That being said, who doesn’t like seeing someone mature up and take responsibility of their actions? It comes with a more rounded smell and less abrasive behaviour too!

Kk1412

Honestly, this is one of my favorite perfumes. It's elegant, classy, and alluring. One spray lasts the whole day, and the moderate sillage just attacks my nose like heaven! I think for the guys that like rose, this is very much a great signature scent.

(Tried Parsha Parfum today, too sweet on my skin, but on paper smells very fresh and boozy) Mathilde Laurent is definitely a very good perfumer.

This smells so old timely that on first sniff I got transported in church next to an old lady wearing her nice perfume. And yet I love it on me. Like sometimes driving an old vintage car can be cool and exciting

melxx2133

This smells amazing!

Smells513

This is a very heavy scent for me, almost too heavy. Definitely getting grandma vibes radiating off this. But, for what it is it's great! Performance is nearly beast mode but be warned, 2 spray maximum on this. Not a warm weather fragrance at all!!!

Cartier’s fragrances are generally noteworthy, this one in particular. While this is not a typical type of fragrance I wear or I have in my collection, I consider it to be among the top three creations of last decade, specially because it's flanker, it's a very few flankers that surpassed the original, this one did it by far.

Whether I am so delighted with it because it binds me to some beautiful memories I made wearing this scent, or because of the quality of the scent itself, I do not know, but the quality certainly stands.

The atypically minimalist bottle for the ornate Cartier; does not differ drastically from the bottle of the standard Declaration, but with a bit sharper edges and more sophisticated liquid colors, so my overall aesthetic impression is far better than the Declaration. On the one hand, noteless and average (bottle), but on the other hand, it is highly elegant, as the smell is.

"White Shirt Rose" is how I call it (later I'll will explain why). So how does it smell? The rose is dominant, fresh, pure, refined, unlike others, especially niche roses, neither syrupy, nor oriental, nor pulling on chewing gum, nor feminine, nor smoky, nor in standard combination with oud, patchouli or saffron, but something more original, innovative. The rose knows that the note smells stuffy, this is not the case here. If it was niche, it would cost a fortune and be sold indisputably. The popularity of this flanker has become unexpectedly high in just a few months since its launch, especially among serious collectors, and that only indicates the quality of the fragrant quality, because this perfume is not a mass-advertised mainstream flagship that the masses buy because of the trend.

The most beautiful part of the scent development is certainly the opening, extremely fresh, juicy, slightly sharp, with a very pleasant alcoholic note, pure alcohol such as vodka, not boozy, such as rum or whiskey. If it was linear and unchanged later, it would be great summer perfume.

The heart of the composition is more floral, warmer, when the rose is most pronounced, the scent is slowly losing juciness and it becomes drier. There are more and more dominant sandalwoods as the drydown approaches; here the sandalwood is green, wooden, it did not go to the oriental side as it sometimes happens, the smell is a bit harsh at this stage, which I believe is due to that sandalwood...

The ending is uninteresting, at this stage the scent loses all its characteristics, and is most similar to the first Declaration, where only the dry base of Iso E Super is felt (which is a good part of the composition of these perfumes), an undefined, soulless, slightly metallic scent, characteristic for several perfumes based on Iso E (Terre d'Hermes has a similar such metal drydown).

The performances for this type of fragrance are quite good, it requires a larger number of applications in order for the projection to be at a satisfactory level, but the durability of more than 5-6 hours can be expected.

In the end, let's conclude, an airy, fresh-rose dominant, sophisticated and casual perfume. In terms of clothing combination, ita unimaginable to me outside casual elegance style, that's the reason I call it "White Shirt Rose

lindacarol6

Blind bought this for my husband, and he is not going to be receiving it (at least not from me) I love it - love the soft watery rose which is set off well by the sharpness of the peppery notes. But what I love about it is that it reminds me of taking wood shop in way back in HS and the scent of fresh hardwood sawdust and the oiled shop equipment. Love the powdery sandalwood drydown.

WiscoFrag

Great fragrance. Classy, yet refreshing. Very unisex, my wife and I both wear it.

jarno1208

I like it, but I don't love it though. I get the rose and spices. I do understand now why people say it is a masculine rose and I fully agree. It does not come as feminine scent when there is a note of rose in it. It is also fresh in my opinion at the same time having rose and spices.

Slava29

Currently you can buy a 100 ml tester of this for $45 US dollars online which is remarkable given that this is an exquisite, elegant fragrance that`s on par with most of my 40 fragrance niche collection. An odd but innovative melange of rose and pepper that just works! Except for Dior Homme Intense 2011, this is the best designer fragrance I have encountered. I`m not sure the under 30 crowd would appreciate this the way an older gentleman would. Smells like wealth.

This + oud + £350 = Dasman by Boadicea

Ambergrizzly

Absolutely love this rose fragrance.

The pepper makes it bright with some richness from the sandalwood.

This leans a little feminine, but not too much. I have had some compliments from ladies in the office.

Kuldeep S

sianturi has mentioned that it is similar to aqua di gio Profumo . I agree. Its airiness is similar to aquatic part and sandalwood to incense aspect of the Profumo.

washudtoj

The only Cartier fragrance that I enjoy. I find other Cartier fragrances suitable for 50+ year-olds.

Let's be honest, Declaration d'un Soir is hyped up a lot in the community, but it is one of the rare cases that actually live up to the hype.

It's a rose fragrance for men. On me, it smells both wet and dry at the same time. You get extremely fresh dewey rose as soon as you spray it (wet). It nevertheless also has some peppery note attached (dry). Overall very pleasant. Suitable for 25+.

If you have trouble finding it, I suggest Yves Rocher Comme une Évidence pour Homme as a substitute. That one is more peppery and woody but is similar especially in the dry down, where the rose comes in. (I wouldn't wait much longer though, since Yves Rocher is now discontinuing that one now, replacing it with Bois de Sauge - a much inferior creation by Ambroxan-perfumer Sonia Constant.)

If you don't like rose, stay away from both this and Comme une Évidence pour Homme. If you like rose, what are you waiting for?

It has nothing in common with the original Déclaration, however. I am not a fan of the original at all.

This is the only Cartier fragrance that receives a positive rating from me.

Kuldeep S

One of the best smelling fragrance for me. Performance is average.

ManicMonkey84

A deeply intriguing scent. The initial blast instantly brought to mind incense and cindery cypress, even though neither one of those are official notes. As others have mentioned, the rose here is extremely earthy, as if you're smelling the leaves, thorns, and stem and not just the petals. As someone averse to most traditional rose fragrances, I really like this "cool spicy" interpretation. There are wafts of this during the drydown which are bizarrely reminiscent of tart, slightly spoiled raspberries, while other whiffs register the more straightforward image of whole roses buried underneath a pile of charred wood and then sprinkled with black pepper (sadly, I don't pick up on the cardamom). Sillage isn't anything to write home about, but it does last on my skin for 6+ hours. Depending on your boldness, I think this would be a great grab for spring/summer nights, but at the same time one could definitely rock this during cooler fall days as well.

robin1234

A classy elegant and masculine rose based perfume. It forms a beautiful scent bubble for many hours.

Vitodito

Ufffff. Not my cup of tea.

The rose is prominent But there’s something in the background thst smells bad to my nose, almos like humid/ground zoologist stuff.

Sorry but i wouldn’t wear this.

adlo3

Very classy and pleasant. Nice

h.djamel87

This is how the captain commander of Gotei 13 Shunsui kyōraku from Bleach would smell like, this masterpiece smell different and unique it's a love or hate fragrance, it's a really sharp one very spicy, earthy and opens up very rosy, i get wet petals and wet earth vibes that are very artistic, it's has an almost watery quality, the spices in the drydown are very sexy yet romantic and sensuel, do not overspray unless you want To skip all those facets unless you content yourself with the poudry rose, i find la nuit de l'homme a bit juvenile compared to this, this is the first time i wrote that much English, so what do you want more lol
Ps: do never blind buy fragrances.

Mississippi Mudcat

Cartier's Declaration d'Un Soir EDT is the very first rose-centric fragrance that I have tried and I must say that I am extremely impressed.

I honestly didn't think that I would enjoy a rose based cologne, but this one is simply amazing! I am a big ole burly dude that was actually a little scared to even try this one out. However, I bought a small mini .13oz bottle off of FragranceNet since it was cheap and because I love the original Declaration and its flanker Declaration Essence. To me Cartier fragrances always seem to be so classy and well blended.

The rose along with the other notes totally compliment each other to create a smell exactly like a live bed of roses planted in your yard. It is unreal how leafy, natural, airy, green, realistic, fresh and earthy that Mathilde Laurent was able to make this fragrance. All that I can say is guys don't be afraid to give this one a try because you just might be like me and love it!

komail

This is the most beautiful rose fragrance for men out there. Most men fragrances which are rose dominated are so dated or unwearable. But this one is a perfect fresh rose for summer. I hove Amouage Lyric Man with its citrusy quality along with the jammy rose. However, D’un Soir is even more fresher and wearable. Its perfect for the modern gentleman who is confident about his sexuality. Its for the perfect man wearing a white shirt or a polo shirt, the ideal perfect man who is your model in your life. He knows how to act and how to treat his wife and his mother. He earned the title “gentleman” for being tactful and courteous. This is perfect for summer and fall. It would work for nights and morning but I prefer to see it envelope more during sunny mornings.

Hint: layer this one with your oud or leather dominated scents and see the magic for winter.

ingeneuxo

-Pleasant woody rose scent.
-Leans rather masculine. (-)

cashewdoc

The most balanced and masculine Rose scent I've ever smelled. Kinda feels like if Terre d'Hermes were centered around the note of Rose rather than Orange. A very well-mannered, elegant scent for the confident individual. I could see any age wearing this, from the most mature 20 year old professional to the most playful 80 year old retiree. A modern, slept on classic.

anthonycball

Elegant. Classy. Spicy, masculine rose. Cartier makes some high-class smelling fragrances, and Declaration d'Un Soir is definitely one of them. The rose and spices are blended perfectly.

Don't worry about this fragrance wearing heavy or "jammy" as they say. It's light and wispy, yet sticks with you for a good 3/4th's a day.

For the price? WOW! Nobody will ever know you only spent $35-$40 for d'Un Soir. It smells far more luxurious than that.

Be careful with this one... it just might be a gateway to other rose fragrances for you; just like it has been for me.

Rating: 9/10

Fragaddict123

This fragrance is all about the rose if you hate florals this is not for you as well as if you want something close to the original this is not for you as well
It’s a completely different fragrance than the original but a good one
Normal longevity a little on the weaker side after 4th hour it’s fading fast

yungjo

I absolutely adore this fragrance. I first set off trying to find a fragrance like le labo rose 31, but I felt I wanted something younger and more masculine. When you first smell this it is like smelling purity with a masculine rose in the background. I am a younger man and I would recommend this to a more refined younger man probably in the 20-35 range. It would smell good on women too, as it is unisex I think. It’s a 10/10 for me.

ammarhyder.1

Heaven must be smell like this. What a classy and elegant scent. Beautiful, just beautiful.

SmellMyCheese

I am less impressed with this than a lot of the reviewers, but it's not a dislike just not a love.

The rose note comes across as a little plasticcy to me rather than a fresh one you can find in pricier fragrances. On top of that though the spices are quite nice and so you have this airy spicy fragrance overall that projects and lasts quite well.

Not bad, but sample if you can rather than consider it an easy blind buy I'd say.

Samering1

I can’t stop wearing this! When it comes to a versatile, classy scent for warm weather, this is it. You just feel put together wearing this. It’s a masculine rose scent with some gentle spice. I couldn’t imagine anyone being offended by this. 6 sprays and I’m good for 10 hours. Have to get a back up bottle because it seems that this gem not so much a secret anymore.

Eugeneloo1128

Very nice rose fragrance

Gentle and unique for a man to wear it

Of course, it is definitely unisex, I don't think it is very masculine, but for men who can accept rose...it is the perfect choice for you.

sianturi

the drydown is very similar to acqua di gio profumo on my skin but isn't as loud as profumo. it smells great nonetheless but it is a bit "soft-spoken". i also don't get much rose past the opening. it does have a somewhat eucalyptus smell to it afterwards. great spring-summer scent though

lwhaymand

Declaration d'un Soir feels very high quality and unique, and quite masculine for a rose fragrance, but you should sample it before you buy it.

I don't think I expected the rose to be quite so prominent in this - I'd imagined a stronger woody backbone like in DHI, or maybe some warm amber, like in Moschino Toy Boy. What you get from this is authentic rose, as if you were smelling the flower, and some sharp spiciness, and that's about it. The spiciness gives it masculinity, but you definitely have to like rose to enjoy this. To use DHI as a floral fragrance comparison again, the iris in that is strong, but the woods, the lavender, and the cacao accord are all strong too. In Declaration d'un Soir, rose is overwhelmingly the main player, so be sure you like rose before you buy it. Fantastic quality, really different scent, but I just don't like rose enough on its own to wear this.

ashesofadam

Mathilde Laurent makes masterpieces. One of my favorite floral scents on men. There is plenty of violet, geranium and citrus impression in DdUS, too, despite not being listed here. It's a fresh, clean, simple fragrance that really sets itself apart from anything else that I would describe in such a way.

Taghi

It has rose and citruses, the rose is not annoying or feminine. loved it, but the price is a bummer. pity.

رز داره و مرکبات ، رزش اصلا زننده یا زنانه نیست. در کل دوستش داشتم، ولی قیمتش منطقی نیست واقعا :( حیف

Honestjbone

Out of all the perfumes I have and love, this one by far hands down without question is the best affordable bang for your buck I have ever came across.

The spicy declaration DNA is being hugged with this airy rose that doesn’t engulf it like say Lyric man by Amouage but let’s it dance, take a break, dance some more.

This is absolutely one of the best fragrances I own, and my wife loves this. A true 10/10 for me. Please Cartier don’t ever discontinue this nugget of gold

rum

The entire Cartier Declaration line needs to be sampled. Based on the success of the original, there are some hidden gems here waiting to be discovered.

Declaration d'Un Soir is quite a way off from the rest of the line. It does have a good rose note that mixes really well with some other interesting notes like nutmeg and woods.

The opening feels like they threw in the whole rose bush: petals, stems, leaves, thorns, heck even some of the soil (I'm guessing that's a patchouli-like note). The whole opening feels like there are some berries in there too (raspberries perhaps?). But a lot of the greens fade away as the scent develops, almost like the rose is blossoming. It doesn't come across as 'feminine' at all, but could easily be worn by both men and women alike.

I agree with the comparisons to Paestum Rose. In fact I can see this as a 'poor man's Portrait of a Lady', given how similar the rose blends with the berry note.

All in all this is a great floral masculine that could work for both men and women in all seasons.

5pritzer

For men who likes floral scents, this is for you. One of the best ROSE fragrance for men ever created. Pure elegance in a bottle.
This is Cartier at its finest. 👌
Beats more expensive designer & niche rose fragrances. IMO

piyux

Cartier Declaration D’Un Soir EDT opens with a moderate projection of sweet, floral, spicy, and green notes. The opening is fresh, delectable, mature, elegant, bright, and inviting. The black pepper, cardamom, caraway, and rose are the opening prominent notes. The black pepper, cardamom, and caraway create a spicy note that feels slightly bitter, green, earthy, minty, and woody, it and creates a unique, different, masculine, and pleasant opening with a vetiver-like accord. The rose is also noticeable, but it isn’t the intense and overly feminine note found in female fragrances, the rose in this fragrance is mild, sweet, floral, and evocative of white fresh roses. As time passes, the sandalwood develops adding a sweet, creamy, and warm note. At this point the fragrance becomes dry and mildly powdery. The fragrance has a noticeable opening to dry down change, the opening is very spicy, and sharp, the most noticeable sweetness is the rose. Towards the dry down, the sandalwood makes the fragrance creamy, dense, powdery, and it replaces the sweetness of the rose with its own. Once Cartier Declaration D’Un Soir EDT has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, sweet sandalwood, rose, spicy black pepper, and caraway fragrance. The fragrance feels casual, comforting, classy, creamy, delectable, diurnal, dry, earthy, elegant, exotic, floral, formal, fresh, gentle, grassy, green, high-quality, intimate, inviting, masculine, mature, mild, natural, nicely-blended, office-ready, playful, professional, sharp, sophisticated, spicy, sporty, sweet, versatile, warm, white, woody, zesty, and very pleasant.

Possibly the most versatile men’s fragrance on the market. Winter in the office? Yes. Summer at a cafe? Sure. Night out in spring? Why not. It’s remarkably flexible. Unique? Absolutely. How many other masculine rose fragrances can you name that aren’t horrifically expensive AND can get you through any situation.

9/10

Dvorask

When I think of rose, this scent doesn't come to mind. This is rosy, but also sour from the spices while having a mild woody undertone in the drydown. This smells the same in the air as up close.

Unique, masculine rose. If you love it, that's super awesome, because this is fantastic value.

However, I also think this is a hit or miss. This has some hype behind it but don't buy into it because I don't think it's a safe blind buy at all. Definitely sample first.

cuz

Is it worth trying if i really, really did not enjoy the original?

ikea50

Masterpiece. Hidden gem. Rose is polarizing among men but this pulls it off with the balance of the earth tones. Starts off with black pepper and rose and then feels like a fresh sandalwood rose the rest of the way. Performance is above average. Sillage is also above average. Very pleasant smell for spring, summer, and rainy days. Can work day and night. One of my favourite affordable fragrances. You can get 100 ML for almost nothing. If it was made by a more popular fragrance house it'd get more hype. This is a 9/10.

Chesco

Wow, there is a middle note of soil in this frag, im thinking of the note of 'dirty' Patchouli.

It's so strong it makes it smell like laundry machine mildew bacteria. Yikes... :S

Think Roses + Mildew. But fabulous price!

Magic! My favorite fragrance of all time and definitely the most romantic one I own.

Mystères du Château de Dé

The top is peppery menthol and minty cardamon and then, after a few minutes, the rose comes forth. Mentholated rose, something I've never smelled before. The impact is clean, uplifting and with generous application, sweet and mood-changing. A daytime, winter-sports, weekend fragrance, the name is wrong. On the other hand, the clear liquid in the tall ice crystal flask with silver cap does suit the fragrance. Can you imagine a minty schnapps with rose and herbs (if such a liqueur could exist, and why doesn't it?), on ice, in a Baccarat tumbler on a sunny terrace in Val d'Isère or Klosters? Coordinates with 10K in sleek new ski gear, a Swiss watch, designer glasses, winter-bronzed skin. Le nec plus ultra du sport chic, this Cartier, the rose smells real and the fragrance smells like money.

furryfleaae

It’s not quite masculine to me. I find it rather unisex and very elegant and seductive on both male and female.
I usually find rose perfume boring but this one stunned me from the first time. The spicy note of the pepper is very well blended and charming, making it not overtly sweet.
Suitable for every occasion and perfect for a date night.
Really can’t get enough of this bottle. This is one of the best rose perfumes out there.

Kuldeep S

Very pleasant rose based fragrance. I don't find it either masculine or feminine. What you think depends upon whether you consider rose as masculine or feminine.

autumnrequiem

Honestly this is an extremely beautiful rose. I never liked Cartier perfumes, however Déclaration D'Un Soir is slowly, slowly growing on me.

My wife absolutely loves this. What took me by huge surprise is the absolutely exquisite drydown. It becomes a full-on masculine scent after the initial rose/cardamom blast. My wife already asked me to wear this on more special, intimate occasions together. This honestly speaks lengths of how good this juice really is, because I own fragrances that cost five times the price and these never provoked a reaction on her like this.

ateneo_ldb

A cardamom bomb with sweet rose and just a hint of carraway to give it an edge. The cardamom is very lemony and bright, which makes this a much more happy and outgoing fragrance than the often compared Rose 31 by Le Labo, which has more distinct woodsy/cedar and cumin notes. It reminds me of a crisp blue shirt on a sunny day in the desert, with a dry wind coming through.

Declaration d'un Soir projects much farther, and with more vibrancy because of its brightness. It can however get a bit cloying, as bright and sweet notes tend to do. The sandalwood backbone is definitely there, but it's soft, and sticks closer to the skin as sandalwood usually does.

All together, a lovely fragrance. Is it strange to call a fragrance optimistic? Because I definitely feel that from this one.

AJM3006

One of the most romantic smelling fragrances i own. This one gets me so many compliments and smells extremely unisex. This is date night materal people! Wear this if you want to bespell and entrance your date.

Longevity is hours and hours - next day for me. Spicey feminine rose smell, and its the pepper that makes it not feminine (if that makes sense) - its hard to put into words, but this is the ultimate rose for me.

richmilton

Perhaps the most perfect Sunday night scent in the summer when the temps are a tad cooler like 75F. This is the fragrance you want when the kids go to bed and you and your wife got some alone time. Of course Declaration d'un Soir is suitable for any formal or office occasion. There is just something so warm and gentlemanly that makes it ideal for alone time with your gal on a quiet Sunday night when the weather is just perfect... Open your window and let the fresh night air throw the silage of this beauty around the room. Getting olfactory? Leave the room for 15 minutes and return to the magic. Absolute masterpiece. This smells like two things: Money and Romance.

Magic

patman21

Le Knows! Well, you have the maturity and sophistication so you can enjoy this fragrance best in the drydown.... Ok then :D

liketheboys

The greener the rose, the more feminine I find it. This one is locked into something chemical, a young rose in formaldehyde in a sparkly glass jar or in a greenhouse. This is a sparkly elegant scent. Subjectively, I imagine it on a woman dressed in white more than any man, metrosexual or not. Beauty serums come to mind, or Vitamin E capsules!

WyattB

A romantic scent for the sophisticated man. When I wear this I imagine I am under the shade of an oak tree on top of a hill. A perfect breeze washed over me and my SO while we are having a picnic. This is a brighter rose than I expected, but that only makes it more versatile. It took me about three uses to truly appreciate how gorgeous this fragrance is.

Sillage is excellent for windier days, and the projection is not invasive. I would say average

Great for date nights or for daytime use. I would not say this fragrance is as sexy as it is romantic. This is for making love, not hooking up.

I find it difficult imagining a feminine woman wearing this. The fragrance is a masculine unisex due to the pepper and sandalwood.

Received several compliments before everything closed down. Mostly commenting on the freshness and it smelling "really nice."

No issues with longevity (8+ hours)

Best for Spring and Fall. Ages 20+

Wagao2121

I agree with the master Ericrico, far below. beautiful work of the perfumer. This is different, sophisticated, I would say ... special. This perfume is Laurent's masterpiece !!

fulopdaniel

It's a dry rose scent, almost like fougere. While I rather wear darker, damper roses, this one is nice too. The opening is very sharp, kinda offensive to my nose (maybe because of the synthetic cardamom), then it quickly dries down into rose / caraway... almost salty. Could be a good choice for mature man

Arbi

This perfume will get you attention. It smells different than other perfumes I have. Women like it on me. Sprayed it 7 hours ago and I can still smell it on myself. My female coworker always compliment me when I wear it. I think it's all year perfume but I wear it in warmer days.

StylinLA

I really like the scent. Appreciate the rose a lot. Very nice, wearable masculine rose.
But sadly this wears inordinately weakly on me. Dousing myself and barely able to smell it.

Maybe an old bottle. Maybe just a "me" thing. Too bad.

phqxyn

Really impressive how nicely the scent says masculine while being a rose frag, it's a beautiful scent. I'd recommend it for more special occasions, rather than casually. If you go in a suit, you can probably where it anywhere.

Kupcake84

Seductive masculine rose scent. It stands out from the crowd and is potent on my skin. 2-3 sprays is all you need. The bottle is one of the better looking ones I have in my collection and the itemizor is great. Better suited for spring or fall, below 75° in my opinion.

xyzzo

Masterpiece!
Rose - traditionally - is a main symbol of femininity and love. But not here. Here is one of the subtle elements of masculine elegancy, what based on black pepper and woods.
Unusual, but perfect harmony. My number one favourite at this time.
Hats off to Mathilde Laurent!

sctbntly

I've been looking for a rose dominant male fragrance. I heard about this from a number of YouTubers and was interested to try it.
I must admit this is not for me, I don't get a lot of rose but I do get heady florals. Unfortunately this really reminds me of a particular air freshener my grandmother had in the 1970s and there is a menthol note that I can't get past.
Glad I only bought a sample

Ionut82

In general, perfumes with dominant rose notes are very difficult to be worn by men. But Declaration d'Un soir is something else !!! Very elegant but also fresh at the same time, quite potent and seductive, I recommend it for to be worn in the evening and necessarily in elegant or at least smart-casual outfits.

Oldspice

I can't place why but I'm not really a fan of Declaration d'Un Soir. I love the original Declaration. I've grown to enjoy rose fragrances. I can't figure it out.

This has better performance for me than the original. The rose note is dominant from start to finish. I don't pick up a lot of spices, something about it smells slightly fruity to me. It smells like a skilled chef created a refreshing rose scented desert like a sorbet or something. I can't place why but I don't care for it. Maybe it'll grow on me but I've enjoyed other rose scents like Aramis 900 from the start.

Romans1013

First impression...

For old men
I'm 47, but this is not for me.

Like rose, try YSL L'homme Ultime.
Similar to the original, the rose sets it apart.
A much more youthful fragrance.

We'll see, maybe Declaration D'Un Soir will grow on me or I'll just grow older to better appreciate the scent.

FragBoy liked both

DrNDJas

As a fan of several from the Declaration line, I was both excited and skeptical about D'un Soir. I am not the biggest fan of the rose note, so I held off on this one for a long time...Yes, the rose is prominent. Yes, it is unmistakably rosy. At first, my fears seemed to be realized....
Editorializing now completed, here is the review:
The opening is undeniably rose-centered, with a soft, velvety, rose-petal accord greeting you unabashedly. I was worried it would develop into a cloying, supremely floral powder-puff of a fragrance that I would need to scrub off immediately. However!.. trust that Mathilde Laurent knows her craft. The rose doesn't intensify. It recedes just enough to allow the creamy sandalwood and soft spices to edge forward and take their place alongside the florals. The blend in intoxicating. It is thrilling, really, to ride so close to the edge of a fragrant disaster, only to veer to satisfaction at the last second. Just as in other art forms, it is in the proximity to debacle, rather than treading the safe path, that the genius lies. I only wish the spices were more present, which, in my estimation, would enhance the power and seduction of the composition. As it stands, Soir is perhaps the least spicy Declaration iteration, but also the most special. Soft, velvety, deep red-grey scent that will set the wearer apart from the masses these days.

azorbet

I don't hate it.I don't like it.
It has nothing to do with ysl ultime. I get completely different vibe from those two. I love ultime btw

Cassiano

wow, thank you @indoscent!

Indoscent

Yes indeed as @cassiano said below :

"one of the most beautiful notes of rose ever felt in perfumes from the Designer segment marketed to the male audience'

BIG LOVE, it's my signature scent.

DGpourHommeMN

The opening of top note is amazing with this. Very unique, fresh and mysterious. Dry down isn't too bad but little too powdery with rose note. Still great and very masculine but wish the top note lasts longer. Much safer blind buy than the original declaration. Worth to keep in my collection.

Cassiano

The perfumer Mathilde Laurent created this version under the concept of freeing the men, encouraging them to make passionate statements. To talk about passion and romance, she decided to take the risk and bring the rose as a central ingredient, changing the olfactory signature of the line, which has always worked on manly notes of cardamom, coriander, caraway, and vetiver.
Déclaration D’Un Soir has top notes of cumin, cardamom, black pepper, and citrus accord. In its body, notes of red rose and nutmeg were combined, while the base carries a beautiful Indian sandalwood.

The fragrance of Déclaration D’Un Soir touches the skin with freshness and delicacy, to the point of being interpreted as feminine. However, immediately, a mentholated facet appears and begins to bring flashes of an olfactory memory very well built by the original version of 1998. Then, an avalanche of familiar sensations appears, along with the cardamom and its spicy content. At this moment, we think: “It's Déclaration, but it's different!”

And this difference is born with the smell of the rose, the queen of flowers, here very well crafted so as not to compromise the masculinity of the faithful user of Déclaration. And all the care was worth it, as Déclaration D’Un Soir has one of the most beautiful notes of rose ever felt in perfumes from the Designer segment marketed to the male audience, as it (the rose) is not afraid to appear.

As a result, we have a clean fragrance, with little evolution and a lot of consistency. Elegance is its main characteristic, but there is a versatility that deserves praise. I am not referring to that versatility that suggests any environment or occasion, but that which manages to elude the hours of the clock and can be well worn both in the day and at night.

Déclaration D’Un Soir is a spicy rose, which shows the most sensitive side of man, but does not hide his thorns, remembering that the sense of defense is more important to him than any gentleness demonstration that can be made.

aet

An interestingly unique fragrance, yet very wearable. The rose is very masculine and when combined with the other notes makes for an elegant concoction that falls right in line with something you expect from Cartier. very well blended. good longevity and nice sillage, but not overpowering. This will make you stand out in a good way.

WildDove

Rose, cardamom, and woods unisex fragrance. After a sharp opening, the drydown is quite smooth and refined. A "must-try" if you like these notes.

SJC

Pleasant scent but too rose dominant, floral and feminine. Would not wear this. Soft sillage, skin scent after a couple of hours.

TrephineArtist

Now this is an interesting perfume!

Not to contradict the previous reviewer but for me this opens up extremely spicy/peppery recalling the original Declaration EDT, that divisive scent which may bring to mind almost culinary (think-Indian) cuisine, but of course in a perfume-like way!

Soon though a gorgeous rose scent rears it's pretty head and kicks the majority of the spices out of the building, bringing with it a classy, elegant floral freshness, with some woody sweetness of sandalwood. These are just my instant thoughts but I think this may well be full bottle worthy for me even if it is rather different. To be continued...

Edit; the rose is much more prominent when sprayed on clothing than on skin for me.

Spinning@backick

Sophisticated and elegant! better for suit up occasion, formal or semiformal.
Longevity was superb on me 8+ hrs easy, projection on 2-3 hrs was excellent after that sits closer about arm length.
Smell wise, for me d'un soir was quite similiar to original declaration, the first one might be little bit floral at the openning but on dry down i can definitely find the original dna throught the lifespan.

AMajeedQT

Sophisticated, masculine rose.

Other than some similarity to the original Declaration at the drydown, Declaration d'Un Soir (DDS) is a completely different fragrance from the rest of the line & that is a very good thing.

DDS is a rose fragrance with a dash of cardamom & pepper, on a background of warm, woody sandalwood that adds a needed touch of masculine woody bitterness

It soft & alluring. The word "romantic" rings loudly when I smell it. It smells like a fragrance of a mature, handsome gentleman in a suit. Just that good. Definitely good for dates.

It's a peaceful, inoffensive scent, & yet unique. It feels like one of those few fragrances that doesn't smell like you are wearing a fragrance but your body scent is just nice.

Really good. Highly recommended for those looking for a masculine rose fragrance. If you don't like the original Declaration, don't worry about it. This is a different fragrance as I've said.

Now, I wish there was a version of DDS with smokey incense. That would knock me out!

Cool weather/mature wear.

Big "Like"!

Scentpunk81

Really love this one if you’re a fan of Rose then you’ll enjoy this one. I get a fresh spicy rose in the opening while the drydown I get sandalwood and pepper but rose is dominant in this one. Reminds walking through a fresh garden full of roses and flowers and shit on a cool day I see this can be a unisex scent but leaning more masculine
Perfect for date nights very classy and elegant

VictorLeon

Manly rose and cardamon opening, kind of fresh and spicy. Very classy, somewhere between designer and niche. Warmer musky drydown. Sutiable all year around.Very nice!

scentitar

Beautiful Classy and seductive rose

Probably the Best unisex rose scent for the money round 40 dollars or even less ! I much prefer the intense version, but this is easily one of the best designer fragrances on the market.

4 to 6 hours longevity, fair projection, becomes a but of a musk and personal scent over time.

Sam_1998

Sexy classy rose, The best rose based fragrance in designer game, this fragrance reminds me of american beauty movie when the girl was in bathtub filled with roses.
I love the smell but I wouldn't wear it myself cause it's too mature for me.

iniodar

Don't be intimidated with the rose note, because it's such a manly and well blended rose fragrance and any guys shouldn't be afraid of wearing this fragrance. I think this is more suitable for a date. I wouldn't wear it for the office though, since it's a little bit errr sensual and personal. Good value for the money, since it's last for a long time! I wear this perfume in the morning, and I still can smell the lingering when it's 7 PM.

equilezstealth05

DISCONTINUED. So Disappointed

zareliman

I've never been so confused about a fragrance before. After having owned and worn more than 60 different fragrances in the past I still can't decide if I can pull this off or no. It's probably the definitive Rose fragrance, I've tried other Rose fragrances but it had always been more subdued, Declaration d'un Soir has a very bitter/sweet strong Rose note that takes the spotlight. It smells high quality and performs very well. I think it's more suitable for mature audiences and formal wear, probably best at night dinner parties/cocktails and that kind of special occasions, but I wouldn't quote myself on that. I suggest try before buy, it's a very special scent (probably something collectors will be interested in).

johnsmithaffairs

I have read all reviews about this fragrance, and the one word my eyes look for is Rose, and I see plenty of it. I love rose as it is such a romantic note, such a sensual, spiritual flower, I will surely get this scent. Sandalwood is also a very precious note, a unique note, perfumes are not just to smell nice but also therapeutic. I am sure as a lover of florals, and musks, this will work with its musky spices, and rose head, I am sure I will.

Fsuholley79

Wow. This is slowly becoming one of my favorite daytime fragrances. I love the Rose and Sandalwood combination. Very fresh and clean. I own a couple dozen fragrances but am by no means an authority on scent. My nose tells me this is amazing. Spring and Summer are best to showcase this. I also get some pepper in there as well but the Rose is what I notice most.

gabiborza

Such a beautiful rose! It opens up sweet and spicy, but then the rose takes over and stays like that till the end. You must be a rose lover to enjoy this one, but is one I am glad to have in my collection!

Saad48

This review is based on a sample.
Smells spicy definitely, but there is something I guess it's the caraway that I didn't like.
Huge pass for me, thank God I didn't blind buy this.

ptilda

This is cardamom, caraway, and nutmeg bomb that is strange and beautiful.

Another lovely I was unexpected gifted, and another I've had my eye on for hubs. I'm actually glad I didn't blind buy this one, because it's a somewhat challenging scent. But it's a great

The rose is there sort of as the foundation, but it's not a typical rose scent.

slprest

I’ve become quite a fan of Cartier fragrances as of late, especially ones by Mathilde Laurent, and I find myself drawn into this one in particular. About two years ago when I first started smelling these Déclaration and flankers I was kinda torn on if I liked them or not. Sometimes they did come across as “cat pee” as many have suggested, but I learned to be patient with the juices and now wait for the great dry downs. I’m not a big rose kind of guy, but I do find this subdued enough to wear. Between the perfume version of Déclaration, d’un Soir and L’Envol I’m finding these three are being used more than my large stashes of Guerlains that I own...I believe that counts as blasphemy in the perfume world so I do apologize and hope my account doesn't get suspended 😵

abd_mahir

It's a pretty spicy rose that is neither creamy nor sweet. All that resting on sandal wood.
The pepper in the opening makes it quite intense but then a sparkly rose makes its way up that's when it really shines.
This can be worn in the day but I think it should be strictly a night out scent.
Performance is okay, probably because I wore this right after taking a shower and my dry skin isn't very nice to most perfumes. However if you also spray your clothes it's good enough for 5 to 7 hours I think.

lgbailey86

This smells like you took the opening of Fille de Berlin and then it dries down into Jardin En Mediterranee. I owned Declaration d'Un soir first and these two in fact kicked this (very nice!) Fragrance out of my collection .
The rose note in Fille Berlin is very similar - but a little more rounded and juicy, just a little (but not a lot) better. Then Declaration d'un soir dries down into a spicy woody scent that is very similar to how the linear Jardin Mediterranee begins and ends. But again Jardin is just slightly better. Declaration d'Un soir is a beautiful fragrance and if my collection wasnt so large it would have a cherished place in it, as it did for a long time.
The tall bottle looks very nice and also can be annoying. Mathilde Laurent is a genius for 100%.

Bubbles1964

I love this spicy rose scent and I don’t think it’s exclusively masculine. There’s no sweetness here, instead it’s an aromatic floral with beautiful light spices. Arms length projection with decent performance. Rather linear, there’s a “fresh” aspect from start to finish. File this under a unisex offering from an under appreciated house.

Forever Neil

This is not a bad fragrance at all, but it's not great either. The rose comes across as eucalyptus. Essence is by far the best Cartier Declaration.

92juanjavier

Let's go there!
I discovered this perfume thanks to a youtuber who spoke very well of him and decided to encourage me to look for it and smell it. It is amazing, it was love at first smell, what a pure smell to rose!
Putting it on your skin gives the feeling that you are transported to a garden full of roses.
In its opening smells of black pepper but then comes the smell of rose, which is the real protagonist, the star, along with nutmeg, which gives a very nice touch.
In its drying it continues to smell the rose next to sandalwood.
It is a very exquisite perfume, very elegant, very pleasant and very well made.
It's very versatile, you can use it when you want it because it will not hit you in high temperatures or go unnoticed in the cold.
Its duration is moderate, about 6 hours, but it has a powerful sillage without being invasive.
The only thing I don't like is the bottle, I do not like the bottles of the Déclaration series.

Mr fragance27

Phenomenal uplifting scent, definitely a Masterpiece.

Paul.Monk

WOW! No doubt that this is the perfect scent for sunny spring days or sultry summer nights. Your environment will thank you for smelling so damn good. This is an absolute masterpiece and I love it! Let me tell you that Declaration D'un Soir is:

a) creative
b) unique
c) romantic
d) floral
e) sexy
f) surprising
g) daring

It needs to be said that Declaration d'Un Soir isn't a clear flanker of the original Declaration. It's totally different.

9/10. Projection should have been slightly louder.

Maidenless

A fresh, simple yet so well-blended rose! The rose stays pretty linear on my skin for hours while the spiciness from pepper and cardamom keep it super fresh and far from being too floral or overly girly, although I can't detect any of the sandalwood. My 2nd favourite rose after Rose 31 from Le Labo!!

Andy the Frenchy

Beautiful linear spicy rose with a noticeable fresh cardamom and a hint of animalic note (caraway) in support. Despite the pyramid, the first note I get is a blast of rose and I'd have bet there is ginger here. Very pleasant.
Well blended, even if the feel of this one is clearly "designer quality". Not a criticism, but I wish they used better oils. and the rose may result a little cloying/synthetic to trained noses.

Great performance (I can still spot it on my hand as a very subtle skin scent after 24+ hours and several washes). I wouldn't pay full retail for this one, but for less than $40, it's a good deal.
For 30+ men, best during a casual late Spring evening, or even a Summer moderatly warm evening.

Note:Should you favor white florals, I'd recommend Chanel Egoiste Platinum instead, which has a better quality feel (but currently also costs 2-3X the price of this one)

Cortina1981

Ok,I haven't wore this fragrance during the winter,so a few months it was sleeping in a box,and today(a beautiful spring like saturday) I thought,I could pull this beauty for a walk:)..It put me a smile on my face immediately, just as it was the first time. That beautiful rose opening! You have to love this fragrance,it's amazing. Not to mention that longevity is sooo soo good...I think everybody behind my scent trail were enjoing it,and it was kind a windy, but sunny day. This fragrance is a beauty and charm in a bottle!

pozimhoff

I purchased this as a blind buy for my husband based on encouraging reviews. I am constructing a perfume wardrobe for my husband and expanding his olfactory range. We both were so pleasantly surprised by this. The peppers and the spices and the woody rose so gratifying. My husband is an educated, well read, well traveled sort of Renaissance man so this speaks to his character and taste.I find myself using it for myself as well. I can see that this would not play well for a modern minimalist sort of person but it is a work of perfume art.

syrian_prince

One of the rare perfume that you can ware day and night , summer and winter .. IT has a soft touch yet a strong presence ..

MikeyAkinty

I still wonder how the first sniff I had of this in the store ended up being different from what I actually bought. And it did not just happen to me, I know a few others who had the same experience. The reviews on YouTube are all hype. IMO, this can only be pulled off by dandies and folks who do not care what anyone says about them. The rose note is too powering and the ginger note does not leave the scene until after several hours. Even though the reviews say otherwise. If you still want to try this, one to two sprays is enough.

Do not blind buy this. I repeat, do not blind buy this. I did and here I am, wishing I never did.

Lmuradian

One of the most versatile scents in my arsenal. Also in my top three scents that get complimented continuously rose ,cardamom and sandalwood. Very unique.

I like rose scents and have been looking for the definitive one for me. I've tried quite a few but have mostly been looking amongst Orientals. So this one's crept up on me really - I've had it for a while, but for whatever reason, it didn't really register with me as a contender. But as is the case with perfume collecting it seems, things change. So now I may be settling with Declaration d'un Soir as a surprise-hit rose scent.
I love Declaration, and although this flanker centres around a delightfully piquant rose note (one I can almost taste) it retains the original's heart: peppery-spice, warm nutmeg, and skin-smell cumin/caraway notes. Later the creamy sandalwood/rose drydown is beautiful and lingers for a long while on my skin.
So, all in all, a great scent. The Cartier DNA is one I enjoy, and the Declaration line is a particular favourite. D'un Soir has a great heart - ah, but the rose!

GustaveTheNose

Finally got around to trying this one. It's a lovely and discreet rose perfume, including the stem and leaves.

It's airy, far less dense than the usual rose oud combo for example, and fits formal occasions.

It's a good choice for those who don't like a strong rose perfume or find roses are feminine.

It has mild to moderate projection and it's quite well behaved.

oh-so-vague

The impression I get from this perfume is the melding of two scenes: a rose in morning dew, slowly drying its petals as the sun rises, and a new sandalwood box filled with fresh, aromatic spices. Everything about this scent suggests light and airiness, a relaxed elegance. A white linen shirt in the breeze at any time of day - lying on the grass in a park with a soulmate, or a dinner date on a balmy evening in Ubud. Over the first hour the delineation between the rose and wood scenes blurs until they meld into a luxurious rose soap scent. I would avoid this if you're averse to soapy fragrances, but it's about as classy a soap as you could imagine! And yes I think it could work as a unisex scent.

O Black

Blind bought this after watching and reading countless reviews, saw this online for a decent price. Soon as I got this and sprayed it, oooh baby baby baby!!! The black pepper and cardamom just wakes you up and electrifies your senses and then the rose comes in giving you life and feel like you are in a garden surrounded by bright roses beaming with the sunlight on the highest mountain closest to heaven! Fresh, Elegant, Sensual, Beautiful and Unisex.

As a man who loves rose scents I feel confident wearing this, some would say it's feminine cause of the rose but with the spices the combo makes you feel like you are majestic and both sexes would love your aura!

Also the Bottle is sleek, minimalistic and elegant. Atomiser is amazing spraying large mists!

Scent- 10/10
Longevity- 8 hours
Silage- Mid to High
Price- You can find this cheap for 100ml online
Occasions- All year weather, day or not, semi casual/work/formal

strawberryswitchblade

This scent is definitely unisex. It is a simple, clean, fresh and spicy rose fragrance for women who don‘t want to smell like a bouquet of flowers. For day time it’s best worn with Dr. Martens and a leather jacket and at night with a simple but sexy LBD

MinimalCoincidence

It's a very nice scent. Calm and gentlemanly. The rose is definitely there but the overall scent is decidedly masculine. Longevity is monstrous; it lasts almost 12 hours on my skin. The atomizer is also very satisfying to press and gives a nice mist.

That said, I don't think I would wear this very often nor recommend it to younger guys. In my opinion, wearing this scent requires some gravitas.

killandrob

I am a fan of Cartier fragrances. I love almost all of their colognes. This is by far my favorite and has a special place in my heart. The rich Rose just stays on my skin for more than 9 hours, however the projection stops around 3-4 hours.
If you want to get into Rose fragrance, just get this. Look no further.
I haven't given it much of a wearing as this is a special occasion fragrance. Save it for creating memories.

There are other options mostly blended with oud. While this is blended with nice rich spice. Love it love it

Lipglossjunkee

This is a beautiful, unisex, spicy woody rose. It's a fresh bright clear rose in the opening, but then softens and sweetens a bit as it dries down. I definitely get the pepper, the cardamom, and the sandalwood in this one, but none of the notes are harsh in any way---they are creamy and make this a good year-round fragrance. This is sexy, but also very happy. I quite enjoy it.

A Woody Rose Masterpiece! Niche quality. Great performance. End.

I am fan of rose frags, but it is hard to make a good impression on women when your wearing it as a men...
Most of rose smelling are somehow boozy or fruity, this one is dry, and I love it!
Not sure if it does contain real rose essence in it but that the kind of rose feeling I like.
It's smells like a nice man, with good taste. Far from sweet "sexy wanna be" fragrances!

Yes, it reminds me of Yves Rocher Comme une évidence. Except YR is more peppery to my nose.

It reminds me also Artisan Parfumeur Voleur de roses.

Zuma_Moon

A beautiful rose scent with a spicy, sandalwood base which has great longevity and projection throughout its duration. I get 8+ hours from 3 sprays.

The opening is a full on beautiful rose note with cardamom and black pepper. As the scent dries down the sandalwood comes through beautifully and balances the rose and spice perfectly.

Beautifully blended scent which I highly recommend to anyone who loves rose in their scents. I consider this a unisex scent and a must try for anyone looking for a great performing formal evening dressed up scent.

Le Knows

If Déclaration d'un Soir evokes images of grandmothers or anything feminine, for that matter, you simply lack the maturity and sophistication to appreciate rose in a masculine fragrance. Applied with subtlety and restraint, D'un Soir is best enjoyed in the dry-down. Too heavy an application tends to be cloying. Bearing that proviso in mind, Déclaration d'un Soir embodies sensuality for ardent fans of rose and pepper notes.

I want to like it soooo much, but I just can't recently. I don't want to smell like my own grandmother (Burberry London make this so much better ;) ), and since this thing is very heavy on the rose, this is the situation. It can be worn by older women, really.... but.. if you are a romantic guy this gem can be good for you, just keep in mind this: this scent requiers some coolness, so put up a leather jacket and boots, go and look like a man, a bad boy, and if you do so, it won't be confusing, you'll be uniqe, a playboy, an amoroso :D If you wear this in a casual outfit, people will think you're a weirdo... in a bad way :D

Anyway.. I still try this maybe I'll come to like it :)

UPDATE:
And yeah... it started growin' on me.... I still think it is definitely a unisex perfume, but very, VERY sophisticated. It fits also with a nice suit, but never EVER where this with casual outfit, :D Beautiful stuff, I will purchase it :)

scentitar

One of the best rose scents a man can wear. I still find this unisex though, and smell better in heat or intimate situations.

A romantic scent and something seductive, but yet not overtly so.

I get 3 to 5 hours longevity and poor projection, but it doesn't need to be loud for romantic situations.

Recommended and I think more men need to try this out. I would direct you to the intense version for better longevity, but this one smells a little brighter and sexier.

If you loved midnight in paris this might be your new love, if you don't mind a little more floral and less powder

One of the best date scents for the money

Grateful

One of my favorite summer scents, the kind that makes you keep smelling your shirt, this made me love the smell of rose in men's fragrances, absolute gem & I'm keeping this in my summer collection forever, lastes over 12 hours, I love it.

lgbailey86

Wow! This is really, really good. Fairly linear but it's a fresh, green, slightly spicy, juicy rose over creamy soft woods and it is magnificent. Smells like a wearable and more masculine la fille de berlin by serge lutens. This is great stuff. The bottle is really beautiful too. I am just blown away by how rich, smooth and elegant this is while staying more masculine than Fille de Berlin - if less dense. This is definitely an intoxicating beautiful rose.
This makes my heart race. This is elegant and gangster at the same time. This is just so beautiful.
I think it's fine for high heat summer. There are things that strike me as more seasonally appropriate come colder weather. Spring and summer both seem great for this. I am also fine to wear this casually or dressed up. I think on a tougher guy this is actually very nice casually. Easily sophisticated enough for a full suit.

kaju23

In my opinion it was designed for formal occasions - suit, white shirt, night time. Spring&fall, it is not very sweet, but still too sweet to wear in summer. Rose and sandalwood is nicely noticed. Pepper note is too weak on my skin, that's a shame. I'm 28 but I think I am not ready for it. It is a lovely scent, but it projects weakly on me and simply does not fit. I'm recommending this juice, but please test it first, blind buy doesn't work here.

lukhoa

Definitely one of my most complimented & versatile rose fragrance ever. Fresh, elegant and simply beautiful on my skin. Easily wear everyday, everytime and every kind of situations.

Arsenal Till I Die

This stuff is beastly but that’s the only good thing about it. Barely masculine and very mature. Unisex. I can’t find anything slightly sexy about it like some people like to describe it, wish I could. The rose is so strong. This is what a candle for the home would smell like. If you actually want a legit masculine rose then dsquared potion royal black, that will knock your socks off and truely show you what a decent masculine rose is with a nasty edge and make this seem like a little girl In a flower garden. I still can’t get over how strong this stuff is!

I finally got to try this about a month ago, at the same time that I got to smell a few rom ford fragrances (for the 1st time actually smelling them w/ bottle in front of me) , anyway this one was the stand out bastard this one mesmerized me and it has been in my mind since, the Tom fords were very good too, favs were Oud Wood and Neroli Portofino forte. But the declaration d’un Soir is just magic it has the X factor that you always hear me talking about when you’re at home, wondering where the voice is coming from. Anyway I hear a lot of ppl say declaration d’un Soir is just simple rose nutmeg and that if you don’t love rose, u won’t like this one. Well that is a long shot from the truth I personally don’t like wearing rose centric fragrances, I don’t hate it I just don’t get much pleasure out of em. THIS ON THE LTHWR HAND, this has got such a beautiful spice/wood accord equallly mixed with this very abstracted rose note

tayyabforyouth

This is a fragrance I envision Dracula wearing if he wore a fragrance. The one word that comes to mind from the aroma of this fragrance is 'romantic'. This is due to the dominant note in it being the smell of rose, mixed with sandalwood and lots of pepper as well as hints of cardamom and nutmeg to make it a very masculine rose fragrance (which is pretty rare). The rose is also extremely well done and smells like fresh rose petals. On drydown it's mostly rose and sandalwood. The overall impression is of a very unique spicy and woody rose scent that works for men, although I think women could wear this too just due to the rose note. The rose note is really well done as well, and smells like real roses. This is definitely a night time fragrance or one to wear with formal clothes (in fact the name 'd'un soir' literally means 'of an evening' in French); it doesn't work for casual situations at all. Sillage is moderate while longevity is also moderate but leaning strong. The bottle is also very interestingly designed, and features an innovative lock feature. Overall, I think this is Cartier's finest work in their fragrance line.

I love this fragrance. Is masterpiece! Roses, Roses & Roses. The dry down is gorgeous. Compare to the dry down of the Intense version which is more powdery and reminds me of No 3 Bella Bellissima.

ericrico

To me, this is Mathilde Laurent's greatest piece of work. Simply one of the best modern designer releases in the past decade.

Fresh. Energetic. Invigorating. Elegant. Intelligent. Sensual.

Chapeau!

Holy crap, i just got a decant of this and it is one of the most beautiful fragrance that i have ever smell. Everytime i smell it, it have this relaxing effect that makes me want to fo sleep. It does not smell feminine at all. I have found my signature fragrance guys.

Scent: 9.5/10
Sillage: 7/10
Longevity: 8/10

I would wear this in the office and upscale event and maybe a date.

smellsbells

turpentine???? hahaha no way-beautiful scent and strong and unique.Fresh and sexy

eimantaspuskorius

Very unique and strong scent. Do not over spray, first time I was wearing this I did 6 or 7 sprays aaaand I got a headache.
Overall it is a good scent if you want to be unique. I think it is best with formal clothes.

Meelosh

Classy, clean, fresh and spicy rose is this one. I can see myself going on some dressed up event smelling like this, and nothing would make me happier. Others can have their Sauvage-s and Bleu de Chanel-s, I will smell unique and sophisticated :)

Performance is amazing. You put this stuff on today, and the smell will hit you tomorrow when you expect the least, or even the day after if you spray your clothes :)

Guys, don't think that that it is feminine because it smells like a rose. Although I can see a women wearing it, I DO think it is masculine scent.

Smell: 9/10

A few days ago i wrote a review stating that i didn't liked this fragrance, BUT i decided to give it one more chance and OH MY GOD i admit that i have changed in a very radical way my opinion about this scent, i dont know what happened to me when i first sprayed this that i didn't liked it, i dont know if it was my body chemistry at the moment or that i was recovering from a terrible cold/flu that my nostrils were not in the mood for the smell of this beauty, but now IM IN LOVE WITH IT, I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Its a very elegant and sexy smell, its a very masculine rose not a feminine one, and along with the spices it creates a very pleasing, manly, elegant, sophisticated, soft and strong scent at the same time. This fragrance is for elegant ocassions, suit and tie, and tuxedo, i consider it a very formal scent, for the office if you work in an elegant place, for weddings, diplomatic receptions, opera, elegant dinners, and for dating that special someone. This one is not casual and not for the teenager crowd, i think the age range for this juice is for men 25 and up that are classy and have style, not for guys who love shorts and flip flops..... It is one of the best rose scents ive ever had, and also i found some kind of a middle eastern or persian touch with this scent, perhaps it is the combination of the spices with the rose that give it that vibe. It projects very well, it lasts on my skin for about 8 to 10 hours and moderate sillage. This one is great in all seasons but it performs great during winter and summer, specially in the night..
Great work from Mathilde Laurent, i think this flanker is great, for me the original Declaration made by Jean Claude Ellena and this Declaration d'un soir are the best of the Declaration line. Well done Cartier...
I give this one 10/10............ 10/10..........

istvan.buda.779

I don't get any rose on my skin. On the paper strip, it has a strong rose note. I get green note mixed with sandalwood.
P.SI do detect a light rose note

Walkure

Opening: This scent opens up spicy and green, with a dominant rose. The rose quickly fades away on my skin as it dries slightly into a scent reminiscent of citronella.

1st Hour: After around 5 minutes, the rose starts to make its way back up, and projects moderately for around 30 minutes to an hour.

Cont.: On my skin, it basically turns into a skin scent and for the life of me I can't seem to get it to perform properly. Around the 3rd hour the rose note seems to fade into the background but is somehow reactivated by humid air after hours in dry air-conditioning.

Conc.: I love this scent, it smells wonderful when the rose is up there and projecting. However, it has horrible and inconsistent performance on my skin. The characteristic of this scent however, is that it stays on the skin for a really darn long time. I've bathed in the evening only to smell whiffs of it from my pillow when I wake in the morning.
Probably need to do a little more testing.

Wear: If your masculinity could be severely hampered by some sort of delicate rose, you should give this a pass. That said, this could be a work scent if you have a BIT more of an effeminate character, but it is very sexy on slightly more dominant men. It works for day dates but I feel it's not dark or alluring enough for romantic evening encounters.

Additional Edit: Without the rose note projection, it smells dirty. Dirt pepper and cardamom. I’d only recommend its use in a humid environment.

Final Edit: Unfortunately, this has fallen out of favour. I simply do not enjoy the spices, and it lacks a certain refinement of quality, along with inconsistent performance.

6.5/10 | Mediocre-Decent Performance

matthew.john.dibernardo

Really thick feminine rose aspect. Smells exactly like lipstick on my skin from initial spray to dry down hours later. Rose note is very synthetic and gets thicker and more obnoxiously prominent with time. I DO NOT recommend very glad I only bought a $5 sample before making a definite decision. If the rose note was not synthetic and had a much lighter "Airy" natural scent character this scent would be a total knockout 10 of 10

This fragrance is another men's elegance. I have the original one and love it but this d'un soir went to next level of actually masculinity. I read a lot of reviews saying that they smell lots of roses but for me I can't smell any roses but loud woody (sandalwood) notes all the way sprinkled with spices which is a very dry and intense yet elegant oriental scent.
I almost feel like visiting an ancient temple in Asia or something and makes me feel calm and in a Zen mode.
I definitely love the scent and the way consistently stays on my skin. This fragrance is maybe not for young boy/guy type such as Eros by Versace or 1 million by Paco Rabanne but more sophisticated and elegant sexy men fragrance. Calm, woody, sophisticated, elegant and sexy. I don't think it's an old guy's fragrance either but it's definitely for simple but well dressed man's fragrance. I recommend this as one of your collection.

leon226

too feminine, makes me gag, smell like old grandma cologne.

Robinfv

Strange, different, but not in a bad way. Very feminine (or unisex at the least), very rosy, but kinda nice. Not for the young crowd, inoffensive, distinguished, formal. The original declaration is very much in the background and pops up from time to time, which is a good think. Clever how they did that! Overal a nice, rose, formal scent for a real gentleman. I give it a 7, won't buy it again but have no regrets for this bottle.

Blueslippers

Yep, Rose, lots of rose!

Initially I dismissed this as too feminine, but I've completely changed my mind.

This is very sophisticated for a man and quite versatile.

Disappointingly, my wife doesn't like this, so I've started wearing it for work as I really enjoy it.

I have tried several others in the Declaration range and they all have the Declaration DNA, but this doesn't. I don't say that as either a positive or a negative, just an observation.

Great scent though and one of my cooler weather favourite'
