this is my mom's favorite perfume , it smells so good

Pinja

So no pineapple in this edp version? The many reviews that mention pineapple actually refer to the edt version then? (Also no hyacinth, rose or vetyver).

I don't know why I continue to neglect reviewing Chance, so I finally am here to address it.

Well, if I had to summarize this I wouldn't hesitate to claim that this is the best Chance - none of the flankers are as nice to me, and I think this smells much more womanly and classy. The others are nice, I especially like Eau Fraiche, but the original has my vote and I would pick this if I ever purchase anything from this line.

It's decidedly Chanel, and even though it contains pepper and patchouli, it *still* manages to smell cool and aloof. I'm truly not sure how...because those notes aren't cool toned to me whatsoever.

Yes...it's soapy. Even detergent-y. I get the complaints, but I don't care. I think it's a gorgeous soap and it's nearly aggressively clean. I enjoy that in a perfume 😈 Maybe I'm demented, but when wearing this I feel like - 'I'm cleaner than thou.' 😏💅

It just has *that* attitude to it, but it's not overly fussier either. Very, very much an example of perfumery "Quit while you're ahead". It stays crisp, and not heavy.

Love.

I have 5% used 3.4 oz bottle of this if anyone is interested for sale/ trade. Will send photo.

I both love this one and find it totally annoying. On me its one of those "am I wearing it or is it wearing me?" perfumes which pretty much sums up my relationship to Chanel. They're all so cold and demanding, yet cool and inviting. Such a push/pull. Luckily we only ever see each other at the duty free or there would be too much drama. In sincerity this would be a great detergent fragrance, and I do not apologize to the ghost of Coco for that sentiment

Nothing but patchouli! Waited for sometime hoping for other notes to reveal but alas, it didn’t happen! Had to go and wash my hand with soap which wasn’t helpful much. Not for me. Good thing it’s just a small decant. Not my fragrance!

Magellan0101

This Chanel reminds me of summer. Fresh and mildly citrus opening with a woody clean dry down. This isn't overly patchouli, as some reviews have claimed. But then, I'm a patchouli queen - wearing Patchouli Elixer right now- so, by comparison, this has only the faintest whisper of it, imo. I do get the pencil shavings thing, although I don't mind it.( I wear a lot from Imaginary Authors, so I'm used to "different".). This perfume is very classy and sophisticated, with that Chanel signature. Great for day and night, both.
On me, it becomes a skin scent after about an hour. Not overpowering. After Chanel no. 22, this is probably my favourite.
6/10 for performance.
8/10 overall.

SL.MS1958

Love, love, love. I truly couldn’t decide between edt and edp so I have both now. I suppose I love the edt just a little more, especially for every day. I wore this edp out for dinner on New Year’s Eve, and it was gorgeous too. Both are chameleons on my skin each in its own way, different notes dominating at different times, and I’m enjoying trying to get to know them, to pin them down. I haven’t yet so I keep going back. :-) These two are my signature for 2024. I may end up growing tired of them, but for now I’m in love. Bonne année!

Adding: Would I recommend this to anyone? Probably not, but would depend on the person. Might not be a safe blind buy.

Further adding: I’m not in love with the sprayer. It comes out in a stream, and I would prefer a finer mist.

Sparkling citrus, delicious sweet pineapple, peppery patchouli, vanilla. It’s so yummy without being gourmand. I just sprayed some over Opium because I was getting bored. I realize I need this lift and sparkle in my fragrances. Without that, no matter how lovely, they’re just not for me. But there is some groundedness here, too, which is good.

BabyOliverMyFragrantica11

Way too spicy and screechy for me!

Meli567

Recently sprayed a bottle that's around five years old. It smelled strongly of pencils. I had to throw it away. I used to love this perfume, but not anymore. I started slowly associating it with clothing that's already been worn (because it was very difficult to wash out of clothes). It's STRONG. I recommend buying a small bottle first because you may grow tired of it like I did and end up throwing it away.

Filolek3037

I always crave it in the autumn/ winter days. Boosts my mood with it’s sparkly citrusy and spicy opening and I found myself always grabbing it when I don’t feel physically fit like being tired and having a headache from the tiredness- no joke, it’s working wonders and energizes instantly. I wonder if anyone else has experienced that. I think it’s a good layering fragrance aswell, especially with Valaya PDM

magred

while i would never wear this myself, chance chanel is a perfect fragrance to me. possibly because of nostalgia, my mother has worn it for at least 20 years but it's so perfectly warm, yummy, a little vanilla-y somehow without being a gourmand? slightly musky without being ambroxany and gross? the perfect classic, feminine, nighttime fragrance.

warp.8

i bought this as an accident one time. thinking it was eau tendre. pleased to find it was more patchouli-warm-amber, i find them much more prominent than the pepper though. its pretty simple, but sometimes that is nice.

Mona708

I like this the most out of all the Chanel scents I’ve tried so far. It’s surprisingly light and simple compared to some of the other better known scents from this house. The light patchouli works well with the powdery notes to smooth out the pink pepper. I definitely wouldn’t mind trying this again someday.

mothtoaflame___

Timeless, unisex leaning fragrance with prominent patchouli and a huge load of musk. I could not wear this without noticeable vanilla, that’s why the EDT is a pass for me. Maybe too universal for some, but I really like it nevertheless.
(Wardrobe)

chiaraherself

This actually gave quite masculine vibes to me for some reason. Very nice and crowd pleasing, I’d still go for CM though.

ScentedPianist

Chance is my favorite (semi-)modern Chanel, together with Eau Premiere.

Unapologetically loud and fun! It's a pleasure to wear this opaque cloud of patchouli, pepper and pineapple. It gives me the same exciting feeling that Gucci Rush does. Both are very electric and neon perfumes.

Thykes10

I thought this was going to be a signature scent for me but I'm glad it gave it multiple tests before purchasing.

The opening is peppery at first and but has something citrusy to it. The opening subsides super quickly- it's gone within minutes. Then I pick up on the classic Chanel musk and some florals. A slight sweetness comes out after about 2 hours of wear from the vanilla. Feels classic and sophisticated- very feminine and ladylike. But after a few tests this felt too proper feeling for everyday wear for me? Could be a good office or meeting scent though. Sits close to skin after about 4-5 hours. Prefer this to Coco Mad.

nisarsarah9

This one smells so fresh and gorgeous. I really liked the citrusy touch of this scent. Best to wear in fall and spring seasons.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I can see the similarities between Chance eau de parfum and Coco Mademoiselle eau de parfum, but I like Coco Mademoiselle better because it isn't as strong on the patchouli and it has a stronger floral accord to me. I think of Chance EDP as a patchouli and vanilla bomb, with a big massive wallop of spicy pink pepper in the opening and a powdery muskiness in the dry down.

I like the vanilla and musk in the dry down, since it gives this fragrance a nice warmth and a nice touch of sweetness. I really like the powdery and purple smelling iris in the heart too, since it gives this fragrance some much needed femininity and romance. I really wish that I could smell the jasmine that is supposedly in this perfume, though. I don't smell any jasmine at all! This fragrance would be so much better if there was more jasmine in it. Some orange blossom might be nice to add some floral sweetness, too.

I feel like Chance EDP would be a good fragrance to wear both day and night in fall, winter and spring, since it has a cool weather feel to it, is slightly spicy and it's very earthy and woody. I wouldn't call it a feminine fragrance and more something that is completely unisex, to be worn by both men and women equally.

The longevity of this perfume was really good, turning into a skin scent at the 8 hours mark on me and then completely dissipating by the 9 and a half hours mark. The projection was also a good 6 feet from my person, so you definitely get good value for your money. I don't think that you could wear this to the office or the hospital because of this.

I didn't absolutely hate this, but I really wasn't in love with Chance eau de parfum and I found it too strong on the woody notes and the patchouli. This is why I'm giving Chance EDP a 4.5/10 in total, which is just a hair under average.

Nora1234

This has been my favourite for evenings out for a while now. I first sniffed it at an evening work outing where a colleague had a bottle with her and gave me a spray, I was immediately obsessed. Now that I have my own, I always wear it going out and love how it smells on me, and on my clothes. It's a good one for scarves! It's probably better for autumn/fall and winter, but I wear it all year round. I'm terrible at picking out and recognising notes so I won't bother getting into that, I just know that this makes me feel glamourous, classy and confident. It lasts me all evening, and if I spray it on any of my clothes I can still smell it days later (which I love).

Silverquick

Fresh, clean, timeless and fairly linear. An elegant scent for any age. First time wearing for me and I’m enthusiastic. It feels happy and like great easy reach for everyday but with a bit of polish to it.

fformoso88

This will forever be a favorite of mine. In my opinion the best Chanel fragrance ever made. Reminds me of my adolescence since I had the edt version when I was a teenager. Very classy fragrance. Not sweet or cloying. Fresh, classy, sophisticated, rich, old money type of scent. More of an oriental fragrance. This is Chanel but for the modern women. The patchouli is not strong but the fragrance lasts all day. You will get compliments from this. I feel like it’s great for everyday or any occasion really.

stillalive

This is such a clean, sophisticated scent. It smells unisex to me, a bit herbal and shampoo-like, a bit citrusy like maybe bergamot even though no citrus notes are listed. I definitely get that Chanel DNA loud and clear! It's a little less sweet than Coco Mademoiselle, a little less powdery than No5, and a little less green/earthy than No19. I could probably wear this year round in Florida, but I think I'll get a bottle and save it for job interviews and other situations where I need some luck!

canisvesperus

I received a sample of Chance by Chanel EDP recently. This is not normally a fragrance I would seek out by my own accord, but here are my thoughts. I may be the average prole with little knowledge of finer tastes, but this makes me think of wealthy and sophisticated young women in gold and silk sipping champagne. The musk is light and does not overwhelm while still lending allure and sensuality. The florals are very elegant and refined. I don’t typically like pink pepper, but in this case the very light spiciness is here to add a bit of dimension. The patchouli does not stink, if that’s what worries you. A bit fresh and a bit powdery. The vanilla mellows things out. Sweet lovers won’t be satisfied. I don’t smell any citrus either. Overall, it is soft, yet rich. Romantic, yet tasteful. Classic, confident old money, but not stuffy or outdated. I remember going to the mall as a child and trying on this tester. Thus, in my mind, it is the quintessential perfume. Beauty and grace. Liquid luxury. Very well done. Yes, it can work as a unisex fragrance as well. Perfect for spring days (though fall and other seasons could be pulled off), whether it be business or a date. Personally though, a little too mainstream for my tastes.

An old love rediscovered !
Just bought a new bottle of chance edp and I am head over heals. This is all class and freshness all in one. Champagne please !!!! I way prefer this to coco Mademoiselle which I find a little too earthy , dirty and patchouli heavy . Mademoiselle is a love /hate for me. Just like angel. Ist a sweet patchouli mossy earthy scent. Chance edp is similar but more refind , cleaner , less sweet and it’s fresher !! It’s a perfected coco mad in my opinion.
Chance edp is my favourite chance.
Edt is nice but thinner , less sweet. Less rounded. It’s almost a mix between eau freche and Chance edp.
Husband loves this one. He says soapy clean fresh and really good. ( his exact words )
Also I should be mention how similar this is to Accento by Xerjoff !! I bought Accento a few weeks ago and it reminded me of chance a lot. So I re purchased chance !!
Accento is AMAZING!!!!!

ginandrice

To me, Chance is all airy, light, sweet powder.

Softly spicy, softly floral, softly woody; soft, soft, soft. There's sophistication here, but it's demure; the overall impression is soft, clean, and pleasant. Like ballet flats and pearl earrings.

The Vibe: A 21-year-old with an impeccable stock portfolio, a polished penthouse apartment, and a century and a half of familial wealth in the foundation of her upbringing. She's the apple of her family's eye; sensible, pretty, polite. Majoring in business, minoring in art history.

ViJapan

I really liked this one for evening occasions, but even though I got it new from a Chanel counter it went rancid within only 3 years! Smelled absolutely horrible and I had to throw away a half full bottle - very disappointing for the high price. Won’t purchase again.

Samanthaheer

This is Eau Fraiche’s younger, romantic sister’s perfume. She is a poet and loves florals with a touch of spice. Eau Frachie is one of my favorite summer scents and I believe Chance would prove to be a contender for heavy rotation late April fight up until the end of May. Definitely has that Chanel DNA.

broro117

This feels to me like the "core" of a classic Chanel patchouli scent without anything wrapped around it to make it more layered or interesting. It's nice, but it really is like you've stripped down a Chanel fragrance to its bare-bones base. Chance Eau Fraîche remains the clear standout of the Chance line, IMO.

alice_w

It smells a bit similar to Coco Mademoiselle, but less sweet. It's a bit deeper and darker. I don't have too much feeling about it, but it's safe to use as a daily scent.

Restingsadface

I bought this perfume to pamper myself after the university exam. I say I bought it well because it is one of the most classic and sophisticated scents to own. It is not a scent that a high school girl can use much, but it is an ideal perfume for a university girl. It can be used especially when going somewhere with girls. A real young teacher or young mother can carry this perfume well.. I've already seen my teachers use this motherly scent before. I think it is suitable for blind buy since it doesnt have sharp or unique smell but I think it is unnecessary to buy a perfume if a person doesnt like going a store and trying scents. A wonderful spring day scent. It makes me nauseous in the summer, and in winter I can't smell it. Its durability is very good, it stays on me longer than twelve hours, but I can't say the same for its silage. A very sophisticated and classy perfume. Goes well with the pink dress. 7.5/10

Lotte_Liese

This perfume has been around for almost 20 years and from what I'm smelling, I reckon it'll be around for another 20. This is an elegant musk- the pink pepper is only just slightly spicy though I wish it were more, the patchouli is prominent, there is something rather fresh and powdery about it. A gorgeous day time scent this would make. I like it, but not enough to purchase a full bottle.

Paintedtrillium

I am a diehard Chanel fan, Love the exclusifs, love no 5. But today I hit the wall with Chance EdP. This is screechy loud and it stinks.

The initial spray for me was quite sharp and pungent to my nose. I was not too happy. As it settled down and the pink pepper bomb passed , it began to soften and be more interesting to me because i do love jasmine and iris.

Will be back to add my thoughts about the dry down.

ETA -I don’t know if I will survive until the dry down. The pink pepper is hanging in there and now the patchouli is coming online…
I love Chanel but this is way strong for my taste and the notes just aren’t singing for me on my skin. Glad this is just a sample and I didnt blind buy a bottle of this stuff.

Will try to hold out and come back for a later update of my impressions.
EATA: I couldn’t stand it any longer. In a neutral manner asked my husband what he thought of it and he gave a revolted look and said it smelled like cat pee to him.

So, I’ve now showered and my very inexpensive bar soap (Zest) smells like heaven compared to Chance EdP.

Shansh

At first when I looked at the scent profile of this perfume, I was sure I wouldn't like it. I like fresh and green or floral perfumes in general. I never imagined that musk, patchouli or powdery notes would speak to me.
Enter- Chanel Chance.
This perfume is captivating and super versatile.
It's juicy, sexy, slightly dirty in the best sense of the word (I guess it's the patchouli) yet light.
To me it smells like a Negroni, with a smoky orange scent (how could it not have any orange notes?), with no resemblance to the cloying, mature scent of Coco Mademoiselle whatsoever.
I feel like this could work as an evening scent, as well as a daytime scent for autumn and winter.
Just perfect.

astralmonad870

This smells almost identical like Coco Mademoiselle and No 5 to me, a blend of the two. I’m sorry but all Chanel perfumes smell very similar to my nose

Pat_Chouli

What can be said about Chance edp that hasn't already been stated? It's a masterfully blended balance of several powerhouse fragrance notes that still smells soft and not overpowering. Definitely exudes an expensive yet subtle sophistication. Because it's so well put together and in balance, it's quite versatile, so IMO it works in all seasons and for all ages, suitable for powerful women and mature teenagers alike.

Laurus

No matter how much I wanted to love this, this smells just like Dior Dune on my skin. I wanted to love Dune also but both are masculine and sharp. I red the notes and I thought I have a winner here but patchouli takes over and mixws with vanilla and musk creating a very masculine trail. I seem to have no luck with Chanel fragrances.

Love & fragrance#01

This… i have no words for this. I love it all, especially the pink pepper mixed with patchouli and musk. It is a feel good fragrance, but also a fragrance that has a sentimental value for me. Its a scent that if life has hitten you that this will surround you and say; get up, chin up and go on, everything will be put together. Life has given you another or multiple chances, do not get discouraged whatever happens.

This my fragpeople, this is that scent for me, through good and bad times i will forever give this a chance to be mine :)

Btw; it opens with very peppery notes (pink pepper) with the flowers and musk far away.
Then i can smell the patchouli (which does remind me a little of allure sensuele which i also really like) mixed with the musk, and the peppery notes has tomed down but i can still smell it. In this stage it gets powdery but with a slightly fresh/woody undertone. I love this one and i have the same feelings as i described above about the eau fraiche of this line :) be ready to receive compliments with this (if it matches your skin chemistry ofcourse)

Update 22/08/‘23:
I just freakin love this! How can a perfume be so intoxicatingly good? Because of this fragrance i am now into patchouli/musky/peppery scents. I only wished it lasts longer.

verzosa

This perfume brings back memories as a person struggling in early adulthood. After Mariah Carey's Luscious Pink this was one of my first perfumes. Everytime I smell it those memories unravel. I was much more bold, anxious and unaware at the time; I had very little experience with fragrances.

As time goes by, I have great appreciation for this scent, it was really there for me at a time I had no one. I have grown into myself more since then, but I still associate it with being a part of me.

In comparison to most of the fragrances I own this one is strong with long longevity. It has a beautiful sparkling projection including the patchouli (I find that this a rare quality for patchouli). It definitely makes a statement.

anotherlittlething

I used Gucci Rush for years and decided I wanted a change, but I had no idea where to even begin. I posted here looking for suggestions and was pointed towards Chance. I absolutely love it! The pink pepper is amazing right out of the bottle, there is no alcohol smell before it dries down. My favorite thing about Chance is that it changes thru the day, sometimes I get a wiff of floral, sometimes its the patchouli, sometimes I smell the pink pepper like I just sprayed it. It lasts and lasts, and I have gotten so many compliments on it. Hands down my new signature scent, I absolutely adore it. Huge thank you to all of you who responded to my post and suggested it.. As a side note, I have picked up a few others Good Girl, L'inderdit, Delina Exclusif and I like them, but the Chance is still my favorite by a mile.

Londonhermit

I smelled mint in the opening not sure why. Towards the dry down I got the vanilla and the patchouli. I never got the iris or jasmine, which is too bad because I love jasmine.

gressssie

I like the EDT a lot better. This one isn't bad by any means but the EDT just smells nicer and is cheaper.

Elfin Will

I rarely like chypre fragrances, but this one got me!

When I first sprayed it, all I could smell was a spicy earthy patchouli. I was testing Chance Eau Tendre EDP on the other wrist, and thought I definitely liked the latter one most.

But during the day, everything changed: the less I liked Chance Eau Tendre, the more I was enjoying Chance. It is very sofisticated, and definitely has that Chanel touch, unlike Eau Tendre which came out very boring to me.

It gave me some "Angel" vibe (by Thierry Mugler) but without the sweetness of Angel. It is also reminescent of Coco Mademoiselle, but without the citrus (which is great for me!).

However, the scent is a bit retro, and is more on the mature side. I would definitely see myself wearing this fragrance in my late 30's, but not now! (I'm 29).

8/10

arefuthescroob

Beautiful scent. Reminds me of Mademoiselle minus citrus notes. So far my favourite Chance.

piahellgren

Amazing fragrance. Honestly, who are all these haters? This is perfectly blended; iris that does not get stuck in the throat, gorgeous jasmin and patchouli, lovely floral citrus. Classy and sexy at the same time. Fresh, yet sultry. Will always have it.

Windermere

My friend gave me her bottle of this after deciding she didn't like it enought. I think it is very pretty, although it will always be overshadowed by CM, at least to my nose. I wear a little spritz of this on my sports bra when going to the gym lol
One thing I'm not sure how to explain, is about three hours in or so I get a distinctive sugary lemonade quality, which is confusing given the notes listed. No patchouli comes through for me, unfortunately

Morgenmuffel

Such a beautiful and sophisticated fragrance. I really can’t imagine anyone not loving it. It is true that it is similar to Coco Mademoiselle but Chance EdP isn’t as sweet or as citrusy. I have Chance, CM and Eau Tendre EdP and I tend to wear this one the most. I’ve recently been gifted Eau Fraîche and I can see it becoming my daily scent in the summer months. To me, Chance has a special autumnal aura. I absolutely adore it.

vsmr

I hated it the first time I sprayed it on me, it was too strong. Then I didn’t like it much the second time but the dry down was tolerable. Would not get another bottle.

grac

Smells very spicy and musky on me (in a bad way) but I have gotten compliments many times I've worn it :/

jesssmells

A friend gifted me a sample vial of this because she knew I wanted to try it. I fell in love. Fresh, elegant, not too sweet and a hint of spice. I may be in the minority, but I think I prefer Chance over Coco Mademoiselle. It suits me perfectly, and I am saving up for a full bottle :)

jazzscent13

My sister gifted me this.. I was having the worst day ever and she thought of me and my love for fragrance. Surprisingly it’s an amazing scent and wonderful gift ❤️. A beautiful sophisticated vanilla with a slight spicy undertone… 2 to 3 sprays is all you need. I will always keep this in my collection.

so_what

It is one of the most "plain" Chanel perfumes I've tried, definitely feels more "flat": it doesn't have as many notes as other ones, but overall I actually like it. I could see myself wearing it, I don't hate it but it's not my absolute favorite perfume by Chanel either.

LSAUG

I was really looking forward to trying Chance, but it smells so similar to Coco Mademoiselle that I was kind of taken aback. Very, very similar but w/ Iris instead of rose. Very harsh opening, just like Coco Mademoiselle but Chance does soften more than Coco M. It becomes a nice musky chypre but I have a dupe of Coco Mademoiselle that smells very similar to this but just a tad sweeter. I like the dry down of Chance a lot more than the heart and the beginning because it has that classic Chanel musk that I like but for this price point I have to love it from beginning to end. I wish the opening was softer, what a shame. I will keep testing to be sure. I really, really like the dry down here so musky w/ soft spicy vanillic and iris undertones. I might change my mind on this one. Requires more study.

Edit:1/31/23 Upon further review of this fragrance I have decided it is not for me. The opening is just so harsh. A problem I have had w/ many Chanel's over the years. I have finally found 2 Chanel's that fit my style so I am happy I can finally have 2 perfumes from this iconic brand w/ a long history. So, the search is finally over but Chance will not be part of my collection. And even though the harsh top notes do allow this fragrance to last longer I just cannot tolerate the blast of pink pepper w/ very screechy citrus top notes. The base of this perfume is very lovely though and if you can tolerate a very long lasting and strong pink pepper w/ very powerful citrus notes that appear to my nose to be bergamot and neroli check this out. One thing is for sure, Chance lasts forever, especially on clothes, hair, and all dead materials.

JSRbeatles

This smells like the general mixture of perfume scents that you smell when you step into the cosmetics section of a department store. That’s not a bad thing - the scent is very pleasant, I just don’t think it stands out very much. So if you enjoy how a department store cosmetics counter smells, I think you’d enjoy Chance EDP.

Jordan 99

Very similar to coco mademoiselle, I had this perfume 10 years ago, I remember regretting this buy I thought I should of get mademoiselle instead. Today I tried both of them again, mademoiselle is way better, I smell something synthetic in chance. I never finished bottle I had 10years ago, I actually sold it on eBay half full.

Riri33

This is a nice scent. It’s a safe choice but it works well for everyday wear. You will smell clean, sophisticated and feminine. It’s in the j’adore category but this one hasn’t changed the way j’adore has. If you like the Chanel dna which is hidden somewhere there it’s a good choice. Most pleasing out of all the Chanel perfumes in my opinion.

Paola12

This fragrance is a real love for me. I can say for sure that will be forever in my collection. It has a hint of sweetness but not too sweet, a hint of flowers but not a classic floral scent and the pink pepper its blended with all the other notes and is present during all the stages of the fragrance. I don't know how this fragrance, without being complicated or smth totally different, can even though manage to be so so addictive by its simplicity. Its elegant, warm and soft. Saying that it is soft, you may wrongly believe that is a weak/moderate fragrance in terms of lasting power, but not. Its an absolute 10 out of 10. Stays during all day, +12 hours. I can smell myself ALL day, and when I spray to the hairs, I can smell it next morning. In terms of projection, is moderate but its quite normal. We talk about chanel. There is no such a thing as strong sillage in chanel. Its all about being elegant, not loud. After finishing my 35 ml bottle, i will go for sure for a 100 ml one.

klioux

Chance is one of the first perfumes I ever smelled because my ultra cool older cousin used to work for Chanel and would give my sister and I little samples of this, No 5 and Coco Mademoiselle. Of the three, this one has always been my favorite. It's soft and powdery with a tickle of pepper and patchouli. I avoid jasmine forward perfumes because it can be a bit pollen abrasive, but I think the mix with iris makes this a little sparklier and mysterious.

nhubella

This is my 1st self buy perfume when I was 18. I knew nothing about the perfume world, just went straight to Sephora, smelled anything I thought fancy, then chose this, lmao. I was so young, and spent that much money for a full bottle of perfume, yeah, I guess I was dumb, too, lmao. Years later when I met my mil, she wore exactly this (She is still wearing and adoring it now), and that’s the moment I realized how this perfume was not for me!
1) The smell was too mature for my younger self, and tbh, I’m feeling the same as now.
2) It was, and still do, a huge turn off for me and my hubby because my mil is wearing it. Don’t get me wrong, we love her so much, and we like it when it’s on her. But seriously, we can’t imagine if my hubby is sniffing and kissing me with his mom's scent on me, ew, hell to the no, please.
Back to the perfume itself, it’s very floral to my nose, and it’s inoffensive and even kind of relaxing. If you want to smell grown up/mature and still feminine, this is for you. If you want to wear it to work/school even on hot summer days, this is for you.

Kcbear28

I usually have a rather severe hay fever during the first half of spring so I sneeze a whole lot and have a drippy nose. My poor nose sort of operates at 50% of its full ability during the season. As a perfume enthusiast, it’s very frustrating cause I can’t smell a thing, hence, my spring perfumes are usually quite loud and strong or I OVER spray, like hello, I wanna smell myself too.

This is probably one of a few light fresh perfumes that I always use in spring cause it somehow manages to penetrate through my nose blindness. Yay! I won’t go into how nice it smells and all that. Cause if you know, then you know ;) My main point is the performance is superb, almost unnatural and I will forever be grateful for it, especially during spring!

YenSung

This is beautiful and recognisable as a Chanel I'm just trying to figure out which season it shines the best..

Gyps

This is nice, I can smell citrus when it opens. Quickly dries down to something I can barely smell on my skin. It’s a like, but not worth the money it costs. I wish I didn’t have such fragrance hungry skin!

MademoiselleMaya

Lasts 2 days on my skin. It is spacious, clean, juicy, elegant and refined.
The notes do not seem groundbreaking, but the scent is done with extreme artistry.
It is versatile, fits every season or time of a day.
Often a comfort scent. To know quality is with me.
It is quite similar to Coco Mademoiselle in some aspects, and yet it is worthy of attention on its own.
The performance of the original formulas on me is shocking. Every second is great, and it lasts and lasts in a proper sillage.

meligonlan

Unfortunately something about this perfume makes me nauseous :(

Enrium

Chance is a fairly generic floral fruity, typical of its era, but nice quality and well-composed with points of interest. It is a safe, modern crowdpleaser in my opinion, but being Chanel, is a cut above others.

Chance opens with rosy, spicy pink pepper and some citrus. It is bright and fresh, joined by floral notes after a little while. The jasmine is clean and soapy, not too sweet, while the pink pepper is fruity here. After a little while, it becomes slightly powdery (iris and clean white musk adds a slight animalic edge. It remains quite clean however.

As it dries down, a hint of vanilla adds sweetness, and a pinch of patchouli adds earthiness as well as technically bringing Chance to chypre territory. The performance is surprisingly good - sillage is fairly strong and it is quite long-lasting.

Clean and feminine, it is elegant and tailor-made for an office environment. However, to be frank, I find it quite unexciting and sexless. 3/5.

Can'tstopFragranceAddict

This is the Perfect all season, all occasions perfume. It works with everything and it’s a complement getter. I love sweet fragrances but this is a neutral scent. On me I pull lots of the jasmine, musk and definitely the vanilla comes through, It’s very feminine and classy. This is a safe blind buy for Mama, Aunty, Sister, Wife and I think even baba.
This is one of the only perfumes I feel truly confident in and put together and my husband picked this and loves it so it’s a win. 10 out if 10 ❤️

Heidi.Hunny

I have been a lover of this for a very very very long time. This is my original beast mode perfume and still tge strongest. I uses to love wearing this when I was bartenders because everyone would always smell it. It last a very long time on me and there have been many a nights in my 20's that I would roll into work from only an hour of sleep still smelling amazing all the next day. It's a commitment.....that being said this is definitely my signature scent and I've made my way through 2 bottles and am on my 3rd , i can't see myself ever not having this in my collection.

It's definitely not for everyone, its quite polarizing and people are going to either love it or hate it. Either way I think veryone would agree it is very well done and has amazing staying power. I wouldn't say it's a safe blind buy unless you love anything patchouli or pink pepper. More a night time fragrance but I've worn it anytime of day.

trouveparfums

5 years ago I would have turned my nose up at this perfume and reached for it's flanker Eau Tendre instead. Now, I am reaching for the OG.

Like one of the reviewers said before, this really is great in September all the way to March.

The bright and sophisticated opening is elegant yet fresh and the dry down is so comforting and delicious. This has amazing staying power for me as it lasts over 8 hours when you consider how beautifully delicate it sits close to the skin at the 8 hour mark. I can't get enough of the dry down. Perfectly feminine vanilla, patchouli and musk.

dyrdkk

It is classy and elegant. My fav for work or professional environment, but you can wear it whenever you want. It has the Chanel-Jacques Polge DNA. Bubbly-champagne with patchouli. It performs quite good on me.

VargaZsuzsanna

My current parfume love. It smells like wealth, sophistication and confidence. I would love to use it more often but it is too expensive for that so I reach for it only on special occasions and when I need some self-esteem boost. I had run out of it about a year ago and got a new bottle a few weeks ago and was surprised to find it doesn't last quite as long on my skin as I remembered. Well, maybe I just need to let it sit for a while to improve longevity - I refuse to accept I paid this much for a fragrance with average only lasting power.

Edit: rest assured, the performance is nuclear just as I remembered. After letting the perfume sit for a few weeks everything is all right with it. It lasts 24+ hours on my skin with decent sillage. With 3-4 sprays you will be set for the whole day.

lanya

love the pink pepper in this. very classic scent. this would be a good everyday scent for september- march and eau fraiche for april-august

Tammyrobins7

I went for a job interview today wearing this and I felt so confident and elegant. It's difficult to describe how expensive this smells but I'm sure most people are familiar with this one from many years ago. This evokes feeling of success and feelings of importance. A good pick me up when you are feeling a bit down and can lift up your spirits. Also perfect for wearing on the best of days as a signature scent. It's pretty but slightly masculine at the same time.

This creates a feeling for me almost like beach sunsets. A perfect perfume for everyone.

Alice Loves Fragrance

I finally got the bottle of this iconic perfume. Happy to have it. And what can I say? It sounds very... classic. In a good way. And it makes this fragrance really versatile, which can easily be your signature scent. Will be absolutely fine for everyday use, and for all events possible. "Chance" is like a magic unicorn that gives you a different color every time you need it. It may give you sensual musk for a date. It can give you a ladyboss vibe with a pinch of pepper. It can refresh you in the morning with a sparkling citruses. This list is even bigger.
It`s pyramid though is rich in pink pepper. It`s a very peppery perfume. I`m not sure how it became so popular, because not a lot of people really like this note. It can also sound masculine on somebody. It depends. You never know - just have to try it. However, "Chance" is something that you can easily tell it smells like Chanel. It has this beautiful bitter citrusy Chanel drydown. Sillage is absolutely majestic. The invisible "cloud" that "Chance" edp gives you, is elegant, yet sparkling like a true dimond.
I remember my mom having a bottle of "Chance" back then, when I was this funny teenager girl who was always curious about mom`s perfumes. And when she wore "Chance" (usually with white summer dresses and fine jewelry), she seemed to me like an angel. And "Chanel Chance" is exactly how ANGELS smell to me. Not Biblical ones. But real women who are kindhearted and caring.
This perfume is just... heavenly. I see why most people don`t get it (that`s ok) - "Chance" is really... striking... first few minutes. But after awhile.. it gives you something, that very rare pefrume can - a feeling of peace and perfection.

P.S. Ladies and gentlemen. The older your "Chance" edp is, the more longlasting and "voluminous" it becomes. It stores perfectly. If you don`t mind it, try to leave your "Chance" alone for at least a few years. I promise you. You will be surprised.

albatros

This is too masculine for me. Don't like it and not worth the price.

Aisha007

Smells nice...but there is a note that is not settling well with my nose. I don't know what it is.

Edit
Not in love with the top of this fragrance..but it is AMAZING once it settles on me.

Konest

It's an OK summer scent but nothing groundbreaking. I refuse to pay its price because I'm sure I can find something similar at Zara if I want to.

fall4grace

I was introduced to this perfume by my mom's blind purchase. My first experience with it was...headache inducing to say the least, but for some reason i felt like going back to it. And so when i did, i just fell in looooove with it! Perfumes smell very different on me than on my mom so i just had to get used to it. I can strongly smell the musk along with the pink pepper. I was usually scared of these notes as my body chemistry makes almost every perfume almost too peppery...spicy lets say. But this is just...every time i smell myself with it on i just love it more and more. Not the kind of perfume to stay on your clothes but you can definitely smell it on your skin after hours passed. Became my signature perfume in no time!

rajnigandha

I don't know why I don't get the hype. Having sprayed it on back to back, so I could maybe feel what others here feel for it, the second time around. On me and to me, it smells like any other fresh summer scent that is powdery and has tea notes in it (very Elizabeth Arden like). Longevity is okay, but sillage is not great. It's inoffensive and very nice smelling. It's a unique combination of warm, soothing and freshness. I can see myself reaching out for it throughout the summers, but I don't see myself falling in love with this one. Maybe I had hoped for too much. This is the second Chanel perfume that I wished were as special to me as it is to other people (first one is Coco Mademoiselle).

Frisco

To me, this smells like money. I remember sampling it in the mall when I was a high schooler and falling in love. It's very strong and long lasting, so much so that I buy a few sample sizes and they last me forever. I put it on when I want to feel expensive, or if I'm going somewhere upscale and want to fit in. I wouldn't call it sexy, exactly, but it's confident. I imagine a CEO wearing this.

Dakota22

Generally not a fan of Chanel fragrances, as I either can't smell them or I can smell the cedar, pencil shavings accord so prominent in Allure and Allure Sensuelle.
I have enjoyed a full bottle of Gabrielle, tho.Chance leans way too masculine for my skin. Oops.

angienotesjunkie

For me, Chance is like a comforting hug. It's peaceful, calming, serene. Contemporary yet classic. Perfectly balanced, blended to perfection, never out of place.

Absolutely signature worthy.

GiulianaC

Wet, emerald green patchouli and musk explosion. Round, somewhat medicinal, incredibly refreshing. It has a unisex vibe to me, in a way – the Chanel signature is there, but in a "start of the millenium way". It reminds me of the time it came out, and smelling it thinking about that context is really nice. It could be worn by anyone to be honest, regardless of age and that sort of thing. A really contemporary smelling scent still, makes me want to try all the flankers.

yeesa_

typical Chanel Dna in the initial spray but then it dries down to a powdery floral perfume. Still too mature for me but nicer than I expected

shewasgarbo

There's something juicy in the way Chance sits on my skin; the combination of pink pepper and jasmine, along with the slightest touch of vanilla, makes this a fresh, sweet, and young scent, without being overbearing. The musk and patchouli gives a rougher base to what would've been a slightly conventional opening, presenting a sophisticated blend typical of Chanel fragrances. The result is a radiant, champagne-like quality that lingers and springs back at the most unexpect moments. It is, personally, what I'd consider my version of a floral fruity.

Chance might be considered by many here to be too mainstream, but it is beautiful.

Lillium

I love how this smells on my skin, hate how it smells on my clothes - super generic and way too popular. On my skin it reminds me of sweet, creamy vanilla almonds. On my clothing it induces a headache smell I often get a whiff of in various locations on many different women.

neda23

I love the smell of of it. Reminds me of my young days and very bad boyfriends lol
I would never get back to wearing it because of how popular this is.

mimahirn

A successful blind buy for me. This is a less sweet, peppery potent version of Coco Mademoiselle EDT. And I’m here for it. The words that come to mind are sophisticated, rich, uplifting, musky, and dynamic. I love it. I will probably love it even more in winter, as it’s more dense than the EDT. With this EDP, I get all the notes at once - musk, patchouli, lemon, pepper, jasmine. And just the slightest kiss of vanilla. I don’t care that it’s incredibly popular. It’s new to me, and I love it.

Shmooksey

I am incredibly impressed by every flanker of this line, absolutely stunning in their own way. Each is so beautifully blended. I am beginning to understand what everyone means when they say the "Chanel DNA"; it is as if every perfume has this shared characteristic underlying their individuality. Trust that they are well balanced, chic, classy, without fail: it just comes down to choosing your favourite version. This one is quite soft compared to others like Coco Mademoiselle and Gabrielle, but it is gorgeous. I'd say fall is most appropriate, if not a cold spring day. It has a lovely floral bouquet smell with a warmth. It doesn't smell like granny florals, or a "floral scent" in the way that kids strawberry shampoo smells like strawberry. It smells like actual flowers, with their green and dew and life.
Very lovely. A little fresher and greener and less sweet than Gabrielle, another one I thoroughly enjoy.
I can definitely recommend a test.
I am just recently in my twenties and I would wear this, it doesn't smell too mature- there is a youthful element to it, but it would definitely be a special occasion scent, not a daily errand scent- but that is my personal preference as someone who typically wears clean, skin-type fragrances.

perfumexpert

This perfume is so incredible. I had it during high school. First, the scent is super floral and warm but really fresh at the same time. While I feel its sad everyone has it now, Im still in love with the atmosphere depicted by this perfume.

fformoso88

I had the edt when I was younger in high school when it first came out. Now that I’m older I think I want the EDP for nostalgic reasons. I adore the original chance it’s such a beautiful, timeless, classy and classic fragrance.

Edit! Yes! It’s everything I remember and even more! I’m so glad that I got this again! Very elegant, nostalgic, classy, boss bitchy fragrance!

Januarie

So, so beautiful. Strong patchouli and very musky, though easy for lots to love, might not be for everyone- I wouldn't blind buy. It's so classy, peppery, with delicate sweetness. I find it gets better after a month or two from opening, so don't get discouraged right away if it's too sour or sharp, that was my initial thought but it changed rather quickly. I now wear it everywhere- errands, dinners, dates, at home.. I just love it. I don't find it obvious, or overused, it's just always the right choice! The bottle is just as pretty, and the darkening-with-time liquid is such a beautiful contrast to that shiny Chanel silver. Lasts well, projects well, I love it

irenesa

This is my special events fragrance. New Years, my birthday, and so on and I tend to use this at night.
Today I received my second bottle as a gif, which I can't be happier about because I adore this perfume.
You know when a perfume comes from a house like Chanel, you know you are gonna smell luxurious and complex, not the sweet ball explosion from other houses. This is a mature fragrance that screams "great taste" and smells pleasant to most noses. So yeah, 12 years loving this, although is not my signature fragrance, it is on the top for sure.

correspondencepersonal

This is clean and fresh, but not like it is fresh from the shower; this smells like a fresh overly starched shirt, crisp from the dry cleaner.

I'm still sampling this, but this is the general vibe, so far.

gourmandgyaani

now this, was the perfume that started my life long affair with fragrance. i smelt this when i was only a teenager and knew nothing about notes or perfumes but begged my dad to give me a bottle as a birthday gift ( i still have a lot left from that original bottle because it is such a special bottle to me lol) and i grew up to continue to love the notes in this - pink pepper, jasmine, patchouli and vanilla are to this date some of the notes my nose gravitates to and loves in perfumes. this is a gorgeous, bright, pretty, classy, rich smelling, put together, stunning stunning STUNNING perfume. this is for the woman that wants to have a strong, confident, yet beautiful presence. its not sexy or sugary or dark or anything polarising at all. to me, even today, a whiff on this on opening the bottle just brightens my whole week and puts a cheer in my step. also, i love catching whiffs of it as i wear it throughout the day. i have a very old formulation which projects and lasts like crazy and i dont know about the new ones?? but i think ill always have a bottle of this in my perfumes. majour love, first love, forever love

Rober7a

This is surprisingly aquatic!! Chanel has figured out a way to make patchouli clean and gently sweet too😁 they can class anything up. It is still strong and potent. I'm not a big lover of patchouli so this soesn't appeal to me, and the aquatic quality makes the whole scent clash in a weird way, like they mixed mens aftershave and some sweet feminine womens perfume. The quality is really good, but I am yet to find a Chanel scent I actually love. 😊

nepria

I forgot how amazing this was! Chanel Chance is truly a remarkable perfume that will have its place in perfume history forever. This is a perfume of a beautiful woman, not a sexy one, but a beautiful, radiant, and very confident woman. It truly is not for everyone as the musky patchouli notes here are very distinct. My beautiful sister used to wear Coco Mademoiselle very often so as I know these two scents well, to me this doesn't smell anything like it.
This scent makes me feel very luxurious, it has this expensive aura.
Sillage and longevity of this perfume don't need any comments - just perfect!
I am forever a fan of Jacques Polge creations for Chanel. Truly a remarkable perfumer with an amazing style and vision!

BonniBrooke

I've had this one for a pretty long time. Almost never reach for it. Strangely, I bought it when a friend of mine said she loved it and was getting married. I let it be her "something borrowed", which seems not terrible on it's face. Chance means luck in French after all. Who doesn't want some luck on their wedding day?

Well, good thing I'm not superstitious. It was a bad marriage and she got divorced in a few years time. :-/

I would honestly say that this biased me against grabbing it, as it made me think of that dubious wedding and, ultimately, bad marriage. But I gave it another look again, trying it a few times this spring. I wanted to like it. But don't. It's a smell I would enjoy walking past out in public, but wearing it around all day feels a bit much for my nose. It's not until the dry down after 4-5 hours when it softens it's hard edge. I like it a bit better then, but the first several hours it just feels sort of in the way. The pepper is definitely spicy at the outset. Maybe it's the musky patchouli that's just too strong to me? Not sure. Definitely a "perfumey" type, but then again, of course, it's Chanel. It has pretty good longevity, so if it's a scent you enjoy, great for you!
I plan on giving this to my sister (if she'll have it!).
I do agree with the reviews that say it's not out of place in many environments. One could wear it to the office, out on a date, to lunch, day or night.
I guess I just wouldn't want to.

brightsun2205

I really enjoy the divine scent of pink pepper, musk and patchouli from Chanel Chance, it is not so heavy to the point that it is safe for work. However, I wish a bit more depth, complexity and intensity of notes are added to make it more long-lasting, otherwise, I need to macerate it. Otherwise, I layer the perfumes I already have.

It lasts me 6+ hours on the skin until it turns into a skin scent, depending on how much spritzes and lasts for days on clothes.

xpetra82

When spring is around the corner...i crave for this one...i have to be in the mood for it...and when i am....i fell so elegant and wealthy into it! But there is days it smells very very boring ...i have a love-hate relationship with Chance line i have to say !

rosetinteddream

Very nice! I bought a used bottle and am on my second day of testing it and really like it. It’s definitely mass appealing, and not super complex. But, it still has some degree of complexity because it also has some depth. No odd stages that lead into something beautiful. I would say it begins solid and lovely, and keeps that vibe with every stage. Somewhat linear. But not completely.

It absolutely reminded me of Coco Mademoiselle when I first sprayed it. I was somewhat disappointed as I already have a bottle of Coco Mad edt and used to have a bottle of the EDP. I don’t dislike Coco Mad but in general fruitchouli’s are not my thing. They are in the same ballpark as “blue” fragrances marketed towards men.

This, however, goes somewhere that I prefer way more than Coco Mad (too much orange, fruit, and patchouli for me). I was comparing the notes listed between the EDT and EDP for Chance and think there might be some notes missing on the EDP. Possibly citrus, pineapple, rose. But anyways. The beginning is spicy and floral, nothing too crazy. But it dries down pretty quickly on my skin and the Iris and jasmine start coming forward to appear and stay. They meld on my skin with the base notes very well. The patchouli starts off strong when it first appears but then tames itself to work well with everybody else. The vanilla doesn’t add too much sweetness, but just enough warmth. The Iris stays, and that with the vanilla give it some powder. The musk is also lovely but nothing too much. IMO it’s pretty well balanced to not be anything offensive, and a somewhat versatile fragrance.

I have and love Chance Eau Fraiche, and owned/blind bought Eau Tendre but was not a fan. I stayed away from this cause I smelled the EDT and to my new nose it wasn’t my thing (this was back in about 2016 or so). So I eventually decided to look up the notes for both and decided to take a chance, oh jeez lol, on the EDP. I’m happy I did!

I also find this to have some “masculine qualities.” In fact, I got a slight memory of some mass appealing men’s fragrance at some point in its dry down. I can’t figure out what it is, I don’t know if it’s Eros or what but I got a whiff of something that made my mind think of a men’s fragrance. I also got a whiff of when you walk by the perfume counters of a department store. Which I sometimes do find some nostalgia for the days I spent shopping with my grandmother as a child, so that’s a nice plus with this.

I wore it to bed last night and I smelled it when I woke up, on my wrists. Which is incredible, absolutely nothing lasts on my wrists except something like vintage Opium or Poison or Dior Homme Parfum. And I wore to work today (no compliments but also no complaints), and could still smell it on me after getting home about 7 hours later.

I am confused about this being called a chypre (fragrance family I still don’t understand) as every vintage chypre I’ve smelled have nothing to do with this scent profile. You can tell this was made post the year 2000. Must be the absence of oakmoss.

Definitely like it. There really is nothing to dislike unless you don’t like the notes used, or are so hotheadedly against mass appealing and somewhat basic scents. I think this has enough depth and complexity to stop it from being banal.

Update 02/23/23 - A year later and I finally finished my used 50 ml bottle today. That made me uncomfortable as this one has really grown on me, so I just purchased a lightly used 100 ml and am awaiting it in the mail! It’s effortless, and it’s not too much of anything IMO. The spice can be a bit much at first, but I’m a fire sign so I can handle it 😉. Someone mentioned that it gets better with age. I don’t know if that’s true but that has been true with some of my other bottles of Chanel that I bought new, they got stronger with some aging. My used bottle was pretty strong for Chanel, as the Coco line is IMO the only line that projects the way people expect to smell a fragrance on others. Most Chanel fragrances are not screamers, that just isn’t that houses vibe. Also I like to layer Allure Sensuelle EDP over this once it dries down. It helps AS project more, and doesn’t change it due the fact that AS has the same notes, and more.

Cataddicted

This scent is very fresh and floral, I think the pink pepper and the patchouli give it a bit of a different edge that most basic floral scents don’t have, because while it isn’t too complex a scent, it is not very simple either. I found it has has what I would call mild to moderate lasting power. I think it would be a good everyday or non offensive work scent. I think it is a likeable, non offensive scent that most people would enjoy. I would prefer if the edp was a little stronger, because, it seems more like an edt to my nose and on my skin, (even though I’ve heard the edp and edts smell very different alongside each other). But it has the lasting power of a very mild edp, Or a moderate edt) but aside from that, it is a very fresh, easily to like scent. It’s one of those bottles I’ll find myself grabbing when I don’t know what to wear because it is so likeable and non offensive. I don’t think many people would dislike this, although it is not amazing for a Chanel perfume either.

babylasagna

While I like this at all stages, I like it best when it is dried down on my skin about an hour after applying. At first it is a very woody, slightly spicy (hello, pink pepper) scent to me, very….bold, unique, not very warm (which I do not mind). But as it settles, the vanilla and patchouli peak through and bring with them the subtle warmth and distinct depth that balance it beautifully.

Crystalita76

Of all the designer Chanel fragrances, Chanel Chance EDP is by far my most favorite.
It is definitely a fragrance that is blended to be mass appealing.
Musky- a tinge sweet- in the opening almost smells citrusy but is well balanced with the Iris and patchouli.
I read here someone saying this was juvenile, but I think it’s quite sophisticated.
It’s borderline work appropriate or possibly good for an evening out.
Some might say it’s sexy but I think it meets the marketing strategy that Chanel was trying to pin point. Which is to be suited for a broader age spectrum and not just likable to a limited age group.
It does have a resemblance to Chanel Mademoiselle but not an exact dupe.
CM was a no go for me. Too orange smelling and loaded with patchouli in the dry down.
But Chanel Chance I gathered more musk and Iris throughout until the end of the fragrance.
Lasts for about 4-6 hours.
Much better performance than Chanel Chance eau Tendre.
Great summer or warmer weather fragrance.
Chanel use to have the most amazing fragrances ever created.
I say that having owned a lot of vintage Chanel fragrances in the past.
I think for the price point that they should have a lot better performance like in the old school fragrances.
Even the exclusive line suffers in performance.
But still Chanel Chance is worth trying out.
Lovely bottle.
Great for everyday wear.

Kizzyb93

Let me start by saying I don’t hate this at all but I feel like it’s not really for my age group (28) I think early 20s would be the more appropriate age for this scent I’m a lover of most Chanel womens and mens but this I felt a little let down because I feel it to be juvenile. I don’t dislike it but I don’t use it at all but iv also noticed my daughter tends to absolutely drench in it before going to school😂.

scarb99

The reviewer before me said this almost gives a unisex vibe, and I have to agree. There is something "strong" about this scent but it clearly belongs on a woman. This was my signature scent for almost 6 years. And honestly it probably still is but I wear it more like once a week rather than every day. However that might be because I can't stop trying new frags. Back to the point, It's a stand out on the right person. A man once told me and I quote " you smell like heaven" if that's not why we wear fragrances then I don't know what is. You can smell the musk forsure, but it's not heavy or dated. It's alluring. Couple that with the jasmine, that's the note my skin seems to project the most, and right away I smell so good I'm almost unapproachable. Or so I've been told. You will smell expensive and put together, period. And men who are used to hitting on girls who wear bath and body works will know inexorably that you are far out of their league.

PS. Pay attention to the country origin, the Made in France bottles are much more well blended and have better silliage than their US counterparts. Speaking from someone who is currently on bottle #4

Piscean-Blue

If you can bottle the scent of an attractive woman climbing and clawing her way up the corporate latter, this would be it. Chance has a very expensive luxurious feel, but there's also a curious detached quality about it. In that sense it's reminiscent of Creed's "Love in White", but not as cold-hearted. While Love in White is much more citrusy and feminine, Chance has a sort of unisex-ish vibe to it.

Personally I like it... Sort of... It's a little too generic for me to go crazy over (although to be fair, it's the high-end of generic). But I can see a certain type of woman going crazy over this stuff.

Also I don't think Chance can be deemed versatile. It's perfect for the office, but that's it. It's a weird pick for club-hopping. Too detached for, say, a wedding - unless you're planning a cameo appearance. It lacks the whimsy required for hanging out with friends or for a romantic rendezvous. If you wear it to school you'd come across as obnoxious. Its flanker Chance Eau Tendre is a much better buy.

Chance is really such an incredible fragrance.

When I first sprayed it, I was really disappointed because it smelled like Coco Mad. Now don't get me wrong -- I grew to love Coco Mad -- but it has a tendency to turn dirty on me and become a patch bomb that makes it smell as though I haven't bathed. I love Coco Mad but she doesn't love me back. Chance, however? It opens like Coco Mad, but then as it dries, this wondrous simplicity takes over. The soft iris and indolic jasmine play together to create this undeniably feminine aura -- the sillage is intoxicating -- and it just smells, well, expensive.

If you were to take every Chanel perfume in your mind and break them down to their barest, simplest bones, that' what this smells like. It smells like the DNA of Chanel all broken down together and then bottled. It's feminine, it's sophisticated, it's classy. Boys won't like it on you, grown men will -- but it's not a scent concerned with being sexy or sweet, it's a fragrance concerned simply with smelling rich and feminine in a way that is owned by the woman herself and not the male perception of it --- and I absolutely adore this.

Bonus: it actually has decent sillage and longevity, something this house seems to really struggle with for no apparent reason.

Not my favourite of my growing Chanel collection. I prefer no 5 and allure sensuelle. I find this maybe a bit more appropriate for younger women, I’d say early to mid twenties. However, I do find this very uplifting and joyful so good for cheering you up. Like it not a love.

shoppingscenter

I didn't like the opening note so much. I love pink pepper when it's balanced with a sweet scent (as in Miss Dior 2017), but here, the smell was too peppery. The middle notes were very similar to Alien to me; I found the jasmine a bit overwhelming and harsh. When the basenotes took over, it smelled like a soapier, more mature version of Coco Mademoiselle.

Mc1995

It’s nice. Aimed at younger audiences. Since Chanel’s fragrances are on the sophisticated side. This is still too sophisticated if your a person who prefers gourmand, fruity shampoo, or candy smells, it’s probably not your thing. Chanel makes beautiful fragrances that aren’t for young noses. They are a bit complex, not the ‘easiest’ fragrances, but you can tell the best ingredients were used. even in the simplicity, like this one. But I’d still say if Coco Mademoiselle is too much for you, this is a good alternative. Also, Chanel’s Eau De Parfum’s are superior, more bang for your buck.

I was on a journey of finding the perfect scent for myself, and I've found THE ONE, it's Chanel Chance EDP. I used to smell this scent when I was in high school and displeased it. However, after a couple of years, I took another "chance" and eventually, I've fallen in LOVE with it ever since.

It opens with fresh and vibrant pink pepper and a tad bit of citrus (which isn't listed as one of the olfactory notes). Then floral notes come out, with Jasmine domination and finally a smooth musky patchouli heaven comes out in the dry down. The scent is long lasting but not too overpowering or overwhelming, as the silage is moderate. I can even smell it when I wash my hair in shower after a long day.

Chance EDP is great for both day and night, suits every occasions from office work to a night out. You can rock this fragrance with a white t-shirt and jeans or a glamorous dress and feeling super confident and beautiful wearing this scent. It has the right amount of class, casualness and sexiness, radiates with sophistication but still easy to understand. I just can't get enough of it. It leans on pricier side of the market but believe me if you love the smell, you definitely get what you paid for. A forever piece in my collection for sure and can't wait to wear it through the new journeys in my life. I'm so into you, my one and only Chance EDP.

catssoul2627

Im not fond of this fragrance, i find that it has a very strong perfume smell to it and the notes dont stand out to me at all. I think its over priced for what it is but i prefer fruity, floral, and gourmand fragrances so im sure to someone else it smells amazing. It just isnt my preference personally.

Zafftali

I love the EDT but I made the mistake of buying the EDP and it gives me nausea

melxx2133

Second review: this is stunning! musky, powdery iris with the slightly dirty patchouli. Its rich and inviting . I love it ! And need the pure Parfum ASAP!

jasiepooh

agree with review below. i sniffed this and immediately said "citrus?" i find this a nice floral adjacent scent. it's quite clean and fresh. i haven't sprayed this on my skin yet, but i haven't yet picked up on the patchouli interestingly enough.

samsscents

Lovely fragrance. Crisp, clean, classy. Maybe it's just my chemistry, but I can definitely smell citrus. Lemon is the main note I can smell, and it's not even on the note list, which is odd. Anyway, it's nice and reminds me of a more elegant VIW.

Murmur123123

Chance vs. Coco Madmoiselle: I have been using CM for years and only recently started using Chance. I do detect a slight similarity between the two especially in the first 30 min or so, but CM is sharper than Chance, more dominant, better projection (can be headache-inducing if over-sprayed). Chance still has a fresh quality to it but I don't smell citrus notes, I think the freshness comes from the floral notes. The dry down of Chance is more vanilla and sweeter, whereas for CM it is strong patchouli bomb and very woody.

Nora805

By the notes I would believe I would love this fragrance. I love it out the bottle but my body chemistry makes me smell like bad body odor.

firstmate423

I absolutely love this fragrance! I keep sniffing my wrists all day! I think this fragrance smells like honey on my skin. It’s heavenly and will always be be kn my collection!

cocodust

I have actually just sold my half bottle. I did like this but didn’t love it, wasn’t one that I wanted to pick up again and again in a addictive way. It is a rich perfume of class, for me it is spring season, champagne and powdery, then develops a sweeter note.

shenamedel

I Haven't Yet Tried This Chanel Chance EDP, But I Am Writing To Ask If This Would Be A Good Fragrance To Boost The Performance & Longevity Of The Chanel Allure EDP & EDT's & Chanel Allure Sensuelle EDP & EDT's That I Do Have, But Seem To Be Much Less Vanilla & Patchouli Than I Remember When Initially Spraying On Me From The Testers In The Store Prior To My Purchases That Followed 1 Year Later Online. Would This Be Worthwhile To Layer Together To Boost Up The Allure Or Allure Sensuelle? & What Version Is Stronger Or Lasts Longer: EDP Or EDT?

BrittanyBrighton

This is the fragrance that spells “ MONEY,POWER,CLASS & CONFIDENCE. “

Most definitely a cooler night time scent.
First date heaven that’s sure to leave the scent on his pillow for a day or two. I should add the word UNFORGETTABLE.

Margreet

Aw Dear Chance... I've been searching for 2 decades for the perfect scent. The one so universal, elegant but also unique. Have been thru flankers, popular and niche houses, "met" legends and gave them a chance. Had some relations but they did not last long. You were always looking at me from these store shelves and you knew we are going to hit the road one day together. Everytime i smell you, I somehow feel happy and I wanna cry Im s touched, what the? I think I've been waiting for perfume love of my life, being afraid to meet one at the same time, so I could play around with other scents. Finally I gave it a shot, I'm still so amazed as you are not niche, not cheap, not simple but also always there and the very 100% of what "Perfume" means to me. None of other perfume ever made me feel so good. Thank you for that.

Chanel chance edp in my opinion is an amazing scent, underrated compared to her more popular cousin CM. That's ok because I love this sweetness to be not that popular hehe. Nevertheless I feel like this perfume is, and happy smelling, and elegant. I do not see any limits about age of ladies/men could wear it, I do not see this scent being worn by the businesswomen in white shirts and black pants. I rather see creative fun lady, laughing at laud, being delicate and seductive, the one that you wanna always be with and has all people always around her. Chance is unexpected and so is the woman wearing it for me. Full of fun, class, sexiness and unknown and really not the office style only ;) Chance is not distant, Chance is
charismatic and magic. Deep and one and only.

Beautscnt

Beautiful scent! Definitely a fall & winter fragrance. The combination is a bit heavy for the summer heat.

I applied 5 hours ago and I’m sniffing my arm in glee.
Definitely getting the full bottle.

clairesque

This is SO similar to Coco Mad - I haven't smelled them side by side but if you sprayed this and told me is was Coco Mad, I'd believe you. I definitely sprayed the EDP but I find it bright, fresh, and citrusy like Coco Mad, deepened by a prominent but not dirty patchouli. I'm surprised not to see any citrus or fruit in the note profile. Like Coco Mad, Chance is a very sophisticated feminine scent for all ages and occasions. If there IS any difference between them, I'd say Chance is sweeter and fruitier, perhaps a bit more youthful.

RoseforEmily

I know that this is a cherished favorite but it's just not for me; the woody citrus came across too sharply when I wore it making it more masculine than how I prefer to smell. I remember spraying this before going to bed one night and not being able to sleep because the musky woods were too overpowering.

granny54

I agree with flyysince89. This has no citrus, but the EDT does. This is one of my favorites. It is a musky, peppery, patchouli, long lasting EDP. Love it!

flyysince89

It's interesting to me that a lot of people say they are getting hints of citrus and that this EDP is bright and fresh. I don't get that at all and wonder if they are confusing this with the EDT? I get mostly patchouli and musk with nuances of the Jasmine and pepper... Don't really get the Iris as much. It's very much a deep, musky scent and definitely leans on the side of unisex.

samantham-123

@KittyDeBeauvoir
Love your reveiw on this!
😂So true

la.femme.scent

I received a vial of Chance EDP as a sample with my purchase of Coco Mademoiselle (CM), a while back. I initially thought it was the eau tendre version, which I had smelled at the mall many years ago, but when I decided to finally try it out tonight I noticed it was the original, which I have never smelled.

First impression of this perfume, is that it smells very similar to CM but a lighter version of it. Then, I felt as if it smells just a little out dated, but not by that many years, but smells like something from the early 2000's, which it is just that! I tried to pick out the notes but all I could smell is the signature Chanel DNA.

I thought I smelled something citrus like after the first spray and as the top note, like a grapefruit, but that's not listed. I also thought this was like CM without the patchouli but apparently patchouli is listed as note. And it doesn't smell woody or musky at all to me but smells more fresh and bright. Kind of smells very synthetic yet not cheap at all, it actually smells very expensive, probably because of the Chanel DNA, but not really opulent either.

I like it and would wear it if I owned a bottle of it but I wouldn't purchase this one. If memory serves me right, I'd much rather have the eau tendre flanker.

piahellgren

I just don't understand why Fragrantica can't get this right. It is so crazy obvious that there are citrus and vetiver in this one! Regardless, it's an amazing perfume, then, now and always will be. Uplifting, not too sweet, rather a bit unisex, and sensual. It may not have the silage it had when introduced, but it certainly lasts and lasts. Chanel does iris best and I usually don't care too much for iris. Not iris fault, but the iris in many of the super sweet modern fruitcholis suffocate me. Not here. Just beautiful and dry and clean.

patimbam

I think my nose (and brain) hates Chanel, except the male fragrances.
This mixture is a misconception. On air it is ok, on skin it picks up pepper with a few floral so it becomes dirty as someone below described. Definitely have to try on your skin before purchasing.

Elsee

I have had this for awhile but never really reached for it. Yesterday I decided to pull it out of my stash. I sprayed this on at 1:00 p.m. and after a few hours, I ventured outside into the 90-degree heat. All of a sudden I got this rich aroma and thought there was a blooming tree nearby. Nope. It was the glorious scent of Chance! It was amazing and I have never experienced this before! I suppose it never really seemed like a summer scent due to its richness, but -- I was wrong! Just fabulous in the dry desert heat of the day! Who knew???

I found a new love in Chanel EDP -- and I don't even have to buy a new bottle! :)
Happy Memorial Weekend everyone!

carla isabel

This was a surprise! First fragrance with iris that i love! Fresh and sophisticated with that Chanel touch of that beautiful patchouli under... I am Addicted!

AnnaEMHG

I have been trying to decide upon my next purchase and remembered that I had a little tester of Chance EDP in my make up bag. I would normally describe myself as a more unisex fragrance lover but I do really enjoy patchouli and musk. I have read so many disparaging reviews on this fragrance but after spraying my wrist I just can't stop huffing myself! It's just so pretty! I'm definitely getting jasmine and pink pepper. Maybe this is my secret, hidden feminine side trying to get out? It's just delightful.

It later struck me that I surely had this fragrance already - Allure Sensuelle! I sprayed one in either wrist and am daughter could hardly tell them apart. Sensuelle is warmer and more complex but Chance seems younger and brighter.

ErinlyT

I would advise to definitely try on skin before purchasing. I really enjoyed the opening and the dry-down on the card, and was considering purchasing. The sales associate encouraged me to spray on skin and I’m so glad she did. Within about 15-30 minutes the patchouli in this one really amped up on my skin and turned “dirty”. This doesn’t typically happen to me with patchouli so I was disappointed!! Anyways, definitely skin test this one.

Jana711xx

Sadly as I find with all Chanel fragrances, it is far too heavy be worn as a signature 365 days a year. But it does has a character all of it’s own and is perfect for occasional wear

KittyDeBeauvoir

This is a boss woman scent.
No question.

I got this perfume fairly recently at a VERY reasonable price (Thank you, eBay), and I don't regret my purchase at all!
The scent isn't a 'jasmine-bomb' as I have been so commonly led to believe.
I'll try to (poorly) explain it:

This has quite a sharp and citrusy undertone that exists throughout its entire life.
There is zero sweetness. Chanel is not a house particularly concerned with creating sweet perfumes. They have no need to attempt to appeal to a difference demographic that demand sweetness and - frankly - who can blame them? There's plenty enough on the market as it is.
What we need is this - A strong, no-bullsh*t, capable, sophisticated, long-lasting (YEEEEEEEES), mature scent that allows wearers to have the belief they can handle anything remotely challenging.

I'll tell you a secret: I'm currently studying, and I had an exam recently. I specifically chose THIS perfume to wear while taking the exam, and it honestly gave me confidence. This perfume is for a capable woman.
Your smart colleague might wear it.
Your modern (yes, it's a mature, yet modern scent; such things exist) and multi-tasking mother might wear it.
Holy sh*t, YOU might wear it!

Truthfully, this is one of my scents I want my (unborn) children to remember as one of my scents.
I mean, along with "Wood Sage & Sea Salt" and "Flower" and...everything else I love, dammit!

This has fairly incredible lasting power (10+ hours), but it clings to clothes like nothing else. My favourite thing to do with this scent is spray it on my scarves. I've smelled my scarf 2 days later, and could still detect it.
I feel I can wear this day or night (maybe not in tightly-packed transport or elevators at first), and it suits any season!
It's bomb.

Is it more appealing to a mature audience? Well, yeah.
Is it hella expensive? Absolutely.
Is it repurchase-worthy if you're a boss person and want to take challenges head-on? You already know the answer to that, Perfumites! :P

I sampled several Chanel fragrances yesterday at Nordstrom and walked away with a bottle of this fine floral. I don't have loads to spend on new fragrances, so I'm a highly selective buyer. The opening is raucous: it is strong and sharp and almost headache-inducing. It isn't sweet at all, which I appreciate. On my wrist I need to give it a good half hour before it becomes wearable, but when it does it is just so darn lovely that it is worth the wait. I don't get the pink pepper like I do with MK Wonderlust. ETA: It isn't listed as a fragrance note, but the opening is citric to me. Maybe bergamot? After a half hour it settles down and becomes a lovely jasmine and iris scent with a musky patchouli base. I don't detect vanilla in this. After a good hour or so there's just a sort of floral cloud that hangs about me that I love. My husband is new to fragrances, but I value his commentary because it isn't clouded by any preconceptions. I tried several fragrances yesterday such as Si, Good Girl and the newest Valentino. My husband commented that Chance--along with all the other Chanel fragrances--just smells more expensive and I agree. I just love how dynamic this perfume is. Sillage is moderate. It lasts a good 4 hours if I spray it on my clothes as well as my skin. I can detect it in gentle waves. On skin alone it becomes a skin scent in under two hours, unfortunately.

Someone else wrote that this is a fragrance for Chanel lovers and I agree. Because it isn't sweet, I wouldn't say Chance is a youthful fragrance. I'm 43 and it is perfect for me. I'd argue that it is fairly unisex leaning feminine. I firmly believe that any scent is for anyone, but I understand what kind of fragrances tend to be labeled as masculine and feminine. This is definitely a daytime fragrance that would probably be safe in the office once it settles down. One could wear this all year in air conditioned environments. I have yet to see how it performs in the summer heat.

ETA: It's now 8 hours in and I'm still able to detect this without putting my nose to my clothes, although it is really soft at this point.

igalmusic

Nothing special, and it doesn't last long, I would rather pick Chloe perfume.

This is so boring. This smells like entering the fragrance section of any department store

moi qui est horreur du poivre rose, je ne l'ai pas senti dans ce parfum; parfum classique pour une femme raffinée, je l'aimais beaucoup il y à une dizaine d'année.
classe, chaud, bien pour saison fraiche

Having first tried and loved Chance Eau Fraiche, I was pleasantly surprised trying Chance EDP. After about an hour I was able to pick up notes that are background players in EDP but amplified in Eau Fraiche. The EDP has the addition of warmth and sensuality, in contrast to the sparkling, refreshing, dare I say sporty Eau Fraiche. Both are worth a try and have shared DNA but enough that differentiates between the two.

Azisai-

My dad bought me this as a late birthday present, and I say I like it!

On my wrist it smells exactly as it did on the paper strip. I agree, it's sort of unisex but learning more towards feminine. But that's why it fits perfectly into every season, it smells good in the fresh, thawing weather of March. Powerful, but still has some sort of pretty gentleness to it. Very close to every other Chanel perfume, I can smell the same DNA as Gabrielle and No. 5.

I don't really smell the pink pepper, or any note listed here really. Just mostly the patchouli, musk, and maybe a tiiiiiny hint of Iris. It smells woodier than it's described. Long lasting and large sillage, seeing as though my mom kept asking "who's wearing perfume?" while we were a room away. A bit headache inducing, so stay clear of this if you don't need another migraine.

Don't think I'll wear this often since it's so strong, but I'll wear it when the time calls for it.

EDIT: After wearing it a bit more I think I like it a lot more! It's not as unisex as I thought it was, maybe the initial spray on my skin is a bit androgynous but as soon as it sets it's a sophisticated and feminine jasmine-musk-pink pepper blend without a hint of androgyny. The drydown is quite powdery, as opposed to the very musky middle-down(??(sorry, at this point I'm making up terms)). Throughout the life on the skin it's mostly musk, granted that patchouli that adds a little earthy-ness to it along with it's other florals. To be honest, I only wore it twice, the second time being yesterday. I guess I should wear stuff more than once to give it an honest breakdown, eh?

CocoLoverForever

This is the only Chance I loved until I've tried Eau Vive. These two make me happy extremely so. They put a smile on my face even before I put it on my skin, as soon as I open the lid. I'm a massive Mademoiselle fan, Intense even more than the original. But I agree, Intense is not for everyone and it is veryvery strong.
The Chance EDP is so sensual and slightly sexual, but not in an offensive way. It will project your happiness only by spritzing it on.
It is truly an amazing scent. It is definitely timeless and will never ever get out of fashion, like so many other scents did. I can't imagine this on anyone who likes Muglier, or Wiktor and Rolf, or even Pacco. This is only for true Chanel fans.

Sunkissed

I've noticed that some people in the comments are actually reviewing the EdT that has a pineapple note. My review is for the EdP:

I keep coming back to edit this review to try to explain how much I love Chance. It is my newest signature scent and I'm in love with it. I decided to remove the long paragraphs I posted before and just stick to the essential otherwise I will want to come back to edit it again and again. I know this sounds cheesy but this is "my Chanel" from all the Chanel frags I've tried so far or that I already own and love.

I get why some people feel Chance leans masculine and I can see guys wearing it, but in my opinion it isn't masculine. It's very feminine. I would describe this as a soft musky vanilla with blooming jasmines in the middle. I love the pink peppery opening! The vanilla isn't very sweet, it's just perfect.
Chance is not complicated, but still so charming and beautiful.
It's a youthful fragrance, but in an adult way. Definitely not girly or very young lady to me, it's a "woman" type of scent in my opinion. Late 20's-early 30's would be the youngest, but of course wear whatever suits you!

Every now and again I rewatch the ad for this fragrance... The one where someone is reading a woman's palm and say they see a city, people, and a man. It's lovely and I get the same vibe and beauty from this scent. :-)
It's extremely feminine and sophisticated, while still being versatile and easy to wear. It smells elegant without being impersonal, if that makes sense. It makes me feel happy, confident, feminine... A classy but sensual type of woman.
Good projection and excellent lasting power on my skin.

Oops... I guess my review isn't much shorter. Well I tried!
I haven't been able to get my hands on the EdT yet, but I'm really curious to see if it's as delicious as the EdP.

Jacklyn's Perfumery

So I decided to pull out all of my Chanel's with my daughter and we decided to have fun and compare all the fragrances and some of them were surprises I never picked up on. Chanel Chance edp is one of them. This is crazy to say but this fragrance is literally Coco Mademoiselle with a sharper, bitter citrus orange on the top notes and through out the whole fragrance. Trust me we pulled out test strips and everything..the similarities are uncanny. It has the freshness and sweetness of Coco M with the citrus and rose. I encourage others to really compare these two because the similarities are so close when you first spray them. So I believe Chance was the beginning of bringing out Coco M. And since I smell some of Allure in here I would say that even Allure is contributed to bringing us the lovely Coco M we know today. There really is no difference between Chance edp and Coco M from the tops to mid notes except that Chance is a sharper fresher citrus and Coco M is more laid back, smoother citrus that would be more to the liking of today's standards. But I have no problem with it I actually like that the citrus is more sharp in Chanel Chance edp allot and it also tells the differences of how citrus was used during those years where D&G Light Blue was all the rave. Now where these two eventually do change is in the dry down. Coco Mademoiselle stays the same all the way through where as when Chanel Chance dries down it begins to turn into Chanel No5..powderiness and all. I actually love it allot and don't know why I don't own Chance. Perhaps at the time I noticed the same thing and decided I didn't need to purchase something I already have that is so similar but my gosh Chanel Chance is a great fragrance none-the-less and I feel the need to eventually want to get Chance and Chanel No5 Eau Premier to add to my fragrance collection.

Miruna

A muskier, creamier Coco Mademoiselle. I also feel some spicy bitterness in the far backgroung, which to me smells like orange peel, but it's probably just pepper.

Sandalwood dreamz

Smells like day old red door.I was never a fan of heavy patchouli and this smells like peppery floral patchouli. I could still smell the rotten flowers and patchouli on my coat almost a week later. A picture a woman in a nursing home enjoying this perfume
Tendre smells like clean white floral with a touch of patchouli and a pleasant musk base

samantham-123

I feel like the note pyramid is a little off with this one. I bought it about a month ago, and I suprised myself at how much i love it! It's not really in line with my personality; very elegant and has a real "pastel pink sundress for spring Sunday brunch" feel too it but I don't care. If I'm dressed basic AF, I still smell like a damn queen when i wear this stuff lol.
On me, the pineapple is very real in the opening; pineapple and sweet lemon with a whole lot of aldehydes. It's sparkly fizzy dessert champagne with yellow fruits.
From there it becomes the most amazing combination of fizzy but creamypatchouli, pepper and vanilla. But this isn't just any old vanilla. This isn't the culinary vanilla in hypnotic poison. It's not a boozy vanilla like in Addict; this is that ultra luxurious, satin smooth sugar free vanilla that only Chanel seems to offer.
And the lasting power and projection is great, which is more than I can say for most chanel offerings of late. I put on my mask today and was getting pleasant little whafts of it where it must have rubbed onto it under my ear two days earlier.
I spray 3 sprays on my neck and one on each wrist in the morning and that dies me a good 5 or 6 hours before it starts fading away.
I don't put age brackets on scents, I dont believe in that but this one is probably the most youthful of all the Chanel scents. Would make a pretty safe gift.
Definately a winner in my collection

Kyndra05

First off I am a huge fan of Chanel Fragrances including their exclusive line. I have worn one or more of their fragrances since high school. This is hands down one of my favorites of their regular line. Its not too much or too little, its just enough!! I love the EDP for the fall and winter months and the EDT for the spring and summer months. The pineapple note in the EDT makes it a little lighter and fresher for warmer weather. I always purchase the 5 Ounce bottle of the EDT because longevity is not as good as the EDP, so I over spray and reapply during the day or night.

On my skin the EDP starts out spicy with the pink pepper and then settles into a beautiful floral musk with just a hint of that soft spiciness peeking through. It literally last 8 to 10 hours on my skin and longer on my clothes and hair when I pair with the bath gel and lotion especially. This is a staple in my collection along with the EDT, Coco Noir, Chance eau Vive and Gardenia from the exclusive line.

Stephbean212

Chance is a well rounded fragrance for all seasons. I understand why so many people would consider this a signature scent. It's elegant, sophisticated and great for all occasions. You can wear this at work, dinner or social gatherings. It's inoffensive and doesn't scream for attention for you to notice.

Initially it opens up a little peppery and slowly dries down to a wonderful musky patchouli and vanilla bubble. The vanilla adds that extra depth and a touch of sweetness. I usually spray three sprays and it lasts about an 8 hour shift. I especially love spraying it in my hair because I get wafts of it as I walk. Also a compliment getter, which while never a need, is a nice plus. Can you tell I love it?

In comparison to the EDT, I have both and what the reviews say are true. The EDT is brighter, fresher with no vanilla ( that I can detect) while the EDP is slightly heavier. Staying power for both are about the same. I think on really hot days I would reach for the EDT just for that freshness. Do you need both? No, but who can say no to Chanel?

In addition, the bottle is beautiful and sits beautifully on my perfume tray. All in all a definite favorite in my collection and top 3 in my Chanel collection.

lavender_and_teal013

I have been testing this for a few weeks and I do enjoy it. I must say it is better than Chance eau Fraiche, which I also quite like, because I consider this to be better suited to year-round wear. It's elegant but youthful and suits the office, dates, running errands, etc. My coworker complimented me on this perfume as well as the eau Fraiche version so I think it's rather inoffensive and appealing to others as well. This one lasts quite a while, though I don't get any hint of vanilla. To me, this is mostly linear with no particular note standing out more than the rest. The pepper is a bit more noticeable at the top, but it quickly fades away so I don't count it as a dominating note. This perfume and Libre are what I reach for on days where I don't feel like thinking about what suits the occasion. I will buy a bottle of Chance EDP once my decant is finished.
Interestingly, I kept reading reviews of how popular this is and how everyone wears it, but when I first smelled the sample it was completely new to me.
Update: Starting to dislike the amount of patchouli in this and I don't find myself reaching for it. I do not want to purchase this and I will likely struggle to finish the decant I have. I'm just not that impressed with Chanel in general. Will not be trying anything further from the house.

frangiris

I am currently testing this over a couple of days. In my impression the opening has a very similar feel to it as Coco Mademoiselle, although it is less complex and harsh than Coco Mademoiselle. There is some note overlap in that they both have Jasmine as a middle note, and Patchouli, Musk and Vanilla in the dry-down.

Some people have complained about a slight screechiness in the orange notes of Coco Mademoiselle which linger throughout the entire wearing - Chance by comparison is a lot more gentle and more focused on the jasmine and iris. I would also say CM is sweeter overall, where Chance, due to its emphasis on flowers, has more of a soapy and calm vibe.

Finally, the dry down of Chance is essentially the simplified dry down of CM - CM just adds vetiver, tonka bean and opoponax.

From this side-by-side comparison I would say I prefer Chance - the scent is more balanced and calming. CM has a dominant sour-sweet orange and citrus vibe that can be a bit annoying at times. But in terms of uniqueness the complexity of CM wins, as Chance could risk smelling like a luxurious shower product.

As I already own a bottle of CM, I won't purchase Chance.

Mwalker0922

This smells very old ladyish to me and way too masculine for my taste

love love love, my all time favourite! smells really feminine and gorgeous.

Why do people say there’s Pineapple in this? Where? I don’t get any pineapple or even anything that resembles it. This is “champagne-like”, quite bubbly but with a very prominent musk note. The musk and patchouli are VERY strong on my skin, with the musk slightly animalic, think fur. Some days I like this fragrance, some days I don’t... but I mostly enjoy this in Summer with a light hand. The Chanel DNA is unmistakable in this fragrance. It’s just that Chance EDP is not my favourite but one I can see a lot of people enjoying on themselves and others. Decent longevity + silage but not necessarily a safe blind buy.

Abm878787

This is one of my favs. I’m not a huge Chanel perfume fan, but this one is my top 3. It’s young without being cheap or unsophisticated, abs the pink pepper is very elegant and soft. If you’re new to Chanel this is a great starter perfume

elledior

This is a good fragrance. You smell it on yourself for a long time, something I don’t get with Coco Noir. Projection and longevity are decent.
I bought it recently, but I also recently started to dislike musk. So now, I only wear it to switch things up a bit, and to feel feminine. I wear this mostly when I’m wearing a dress.
As for the scent, I get a lot of the pink pepper. I think this is slightly similar to Coco Noir, but spicier. The dry down in both is musky. But Chance is fresh and bright. It reminds me of Spring.

peanutbuttercups

A lovely, elegant scent. It is clean and fresh, yet sophisticated enough to wear at night-time, too. It's easy to wear and has decent longevity for a Chanel scent (in my experience the brand doesn't usually perform well in this area). I've received compliments wearing it before, which is always a bonus!

My one issue is simply that due to its popularity you often run into several people wearing 'Chance' at any given time!

Coffeeandperfume

Lovely and long lasting, appropriate for work imo. Great for everyday, can easily be a signature as it works in all seasons. The only perfume my husband doesn't complain about (he hates perfume, lucky me). Great blind buy for a special someone. This and the Fresh are the only Chances I would wear.

chinna

I dont know what happens to the original creation. I putt this one years ago strong patchouli in top notes, sweet , and a lot of powder in dry down. So I blind buy and this is a jasmine perfume that desapoint me . Nothing powdery, no patchouli , nothing sweet. ☹

LB1997

I really like Chanel Chance. But somehow this perfume is not very wearable for me. When I spray on this perfume, the pepper is way too much present. Not in a good way. So, I wear this perfume very little. I also believe this perfume is more suitable for people over 20.

Annasuya

This is my go-to fragrance when I don't know what would be appropriate to wear to:
(1.) a first date
(2.) a job interview
(3.) a family get together
(4.) brunch with my besties
(5.) intimate candlelight dinner date
(6.) the year-end company banquet

Both playful and elegant, Chance EDP is as versatile as it is beautiful...a work of art!

sarahherbs

This is one of my favorite perfumes ever. It’s very floral with a candied jasmine note, but also has a healthy dose of sharp patchouli. If it were an item of clothing, it’d be lavender cashmere sweater. It’s not as soft as mohair and not as course as wool, but it has a little grit. The abrasiveness is likely from that sharp wet patchouli note which prevents the fragrance from being too sweet or too floral.

sushivoodoo

I blew through a tester during a work shift I found it pleasant and a bit safe in comparison to what I prefer but suitable for work. Sadly it did not last at all nice for all of an hour but will not be adding to my list.

Jacquis

Chanel Chance EDP is very fresh on my skin. I wear this in summer and I find it strikingly similar to Gabrielle minus the tuberose. Signature scent and very easy to wear.

Lixa

It smells like cold fresh mountain air. With this I see myself transported to an exclusive mountain resort in the Alps ;). Crisp, elegant and expensive smelling perfume, fresh but not in a sporty way. Fresh as in classy fresh.

Farangismua

Jazmin musk and patchouly is all I need to love the perfume! Ive had and repurchased this perfume many years. Smelled it on one of my friend’s and loved it ever since. Id say I equally adore it with Mademoiselle. Both are very rich woman scent. Very original very long lasting. I will always have to have it in my collection 10/10

Rozalina

Chanel is the Queen of aldehydes, and Chance has this fizzy, effervescent character that makes me think of drinking soda and blowing bubbles into the straw. You can’t really guess how it will smell when looking at the rather simple note pyramid, you must try it to understand. Chance is elegant yet understated, it’s simple but definitely not boring. It can be worn with a white t-shirt and jeans as well as a little black dress. Perfect signature scent.

1guy1dog3cats

Take all of Chanel’s more modern mass-market releases: Allure, Coco Mademoiselle/Noir, Chance, Gabrielle, and all of their respective flankers. This, the original Chance, is the Chanel-est of those Chanels, out-Chanel-ing all the others. It perfectly embodies that sense of posh sophistication that Chanel does so well. Chance is sweetly earthy, with a patchouli base common to other Chanel releases. Over that, though, is a light citrus, some pineapple, and abstract florals, in which I mainly detect iris. Though marketed to women, Chance could easily, comfortably be worn by men.

Chance’s EDP and EDT formulations are much the same. The EDP has a warmer vanilla in its base, granting it a more mature character. The EDT, with less vanilla, smells fresher. They boast similar, solid longevity, so it all comes down to personal preference. For me, it’s the EDT.

If you’re looking for a signature scent that smells chic and effortless, Chance is a contender, regardless of gender. Love.

wallywinthrop

Oh my goodness! Perfect, lush little pineapple cut out stars swirling in rich, diamond-shimmery champagne, sliding down champagne waterfalls like in Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette - as you enjoy crisp, dry jasmin macarons...instant love!
Chance is one of those Chanel patchouli scents but it has a definite sunny aspect and gaiety in it that I don't feel the others have, lovely as they are. Coco Mademoiselle is sparkling vivacity for the office or shimmering elegance at night- Chance can work at any occasion but it's just lovely on a breezy spring day, the sky so deeply blue.

Astara_Elaria

Just re-added "Chance eau de parfum" to my collection and find it to be the "perfect all-year-round-office-friendly-with-just-one-spray perfume" I was looking for. At the moment, the weather isn't too warm here, my summer scents don't work or aren't needed too often.
But this is perfect: Sparkling at the start and musky-soapy-flowery-clean later on, with still a woody and bit citrusy freshness - but without the sharpness I detect in the "eau fraiche".
EDP especially in the topnotes smells clearly "Chanel" and later on it doesn't smell cheap, you get it's quality.
In summer 2005 I had the eau de toilette and I realise that the EdP is a lot muskier. I love that! I mean, I've been through all kinds of Narcisos in the past few years - I am not afraid of musk anymore.
But on my skin it can be tricky note, detergent or hairspray like. But here it works (also like most of the Narcisos do as well). I am so glad about that.
Also I can smell the beauty of the jasmin, one of my all-time favourite notes, while the musk smoothes the patchouly perfectly. For my taste, Chanel can do Iris and Jasmin so elegant and beautiful - and for that reason I also detect a lot of Eau Premiere in Chance EdP. But while Eau Premiere is a bit more elegant, it sometimes falls flat on my perfume-eating dry skin, while Chance lives up a bit more. On the other hand, Eau Premiere has that beautiful warm sandalwood base, while the last whispers of Chance EdP are vetiver and musk to me. But that's okay for me, since I adore vetiver in womens perfumes. The whole scent is beautiful for professional settings (but just one spray!). It makes me feel confident and elegant without being masked with something that would be maybe more formal and powerful, but just not me.
Chance is a beautiful potpourri of many Chanel perfumes, and that's just good, because for now I am happy with this one without needing the others also.
Lovely, elegant, grown-up. The pink packaging just matches the pink pepper note, but not the final scent, it doesn't do it justice, it should be light amber and silver with pink highlights.

Charlzetta

I freakin' love Chance! It's spicy, a little juicy, intoxicating, and long-lasting. It smells pretty and sexy at the same time, yet subtle. It reminds me of my childhood as well. My mother used to scent drawer liners with Chanel but I never realized it at the time lol. I just thought the drawer was magical because every time I pulled a shirt out of the drawer to wear, it had this amazing smell that lasted all day.

Recently I grabbed a jacket I hadn't worn for about a month and it still smelled like Chance Chanel! LOVELY

Olenkah

At first spray I liked the special, slight powdery flower scent, that was not too sweet like all the other summer scents out there - and I bought a small bottle because I also detected a slight pleasant vanilla note. But the more I wear it, the more I dislike it. It is too muscy, very sour and sharp. Now I don't even smell any vanilla.

I hope it will grow on me or that it's just the warm humid weather right now that makes it so sharp. So disappointed.

ldetrich

I have many Chanel perfumes in my fragrance wardrobe, Chance EDP has that familiar 'Chanel' lineage, fizzy aldehyde top notes with a powdery dry down.
I've tried the other Chance flankers, but I love this one best - I appreciate the beautiful iris/patchouli/musk note, it's strong though, apply more than one spritz and it easily becomes overbearing. The sillage and longevity are excellent. I find the less you apply, the more one can appreciate it's astute beauty. It reminds me of Chanel No. 22's (vintage eau de cologne) ethereal, remote beauty. Something astoundingly beautiful yet a tad unapproachable.

I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that Chance is the ultimate preppy girl perfume. To me, that title belongs to Ralph Lauren's Lauren (the vintage cologne in the burgundy ink well bottle, Isabella Townsend wore it best). I admit, I'm dating myself here by the mere mention of Lauren.
To me, Chance is more formal, not a light-hearted fragrance like the au fresh flanker and best reserved for evening.

Chanel Chance holds a very special meaning for me. It was one of my late Grandmother's favourite perfumes. (She died last October)

My mother gave me my Gran's unopened back up bottle of this, as she took the open one. This would sit along side her Dior J'Adore, Lancome Tesor, Lancome Miracle, Chanel No5 and Calvin Klein Eternity on her sideboard. Ever since I was a child, I'd love to sniff her perfumes. Growing up, i always bought her perfume for Birthdays and Christmas... Such fond memories.

I'll wear this on her birthday in July.

Lauren19

This is one of the better Chance perfumes for longevity and projection. However, I find that there is a bit too much musk in this one. I enjoy it and think its fun to wear, but I do find myself suffocated by the musk as it settles.

dolea

Gorgeous but I can't detect it on myself after 2 hours. It vanish.

KrystalPower83

Chanel Chance and the Chance flankers I love BUT they are the only Chanel perfumes I like. I love the original. O disliked any other Chanel I've ever smelled and saying disliked is being polite, the others make me literally wince with disgust. (Coco M, Gabrielle,$5, #19, all of them).

jerika0418

Everytime i smell this one, i was quickly reminded of bleu de chanel parfum. 😄

careebearr

I get mostly citrus and pink pepper in the opening. That sparkly, aldehydic quality that is present in all of Chanel's fragrances is immediately apparent. With time the jasmine really comes to the forefront. On me I can't detect any patchouli whatsoever, despite what the breakdown of the note pyramid suggests. The base is musky and slightly sweet, though I don't pick up on a distinct vanilla note. There is a powdery quality in this phase too, maybe the iris?

This fragrance is absolutely beautiful and so well-crafted. It is easy to wear, classy and sophisticated without trying too hard; it can be worn in all types of weather and in any situation. My only wish is that there was a little more projection as this fades down to a skin scent within 2-3 hours. Longevity still is good at around 8 hours, however.

Why doesn't Fragrantica mention the citrus notes- they are SO apparent! Anyway, I cannot make up my mind which I love more; this one or the edt. I am on a total Chanel craze right now and this is SO beautiful and both fresh and seductive at the same time. Faint vanilla, but quality one. To me this is mostly citrus, patchouli, vetiver and pink pepper. Sure, there is iris and a beautiful, but nicely toned down one at that. I get a bit overwhelmed by the typical modern super intense, almost suffocating iris found in LVEB, Lipstick this and that and many Guerlains. Chanel does iris so nicely! Anyway, the citrus notes come back in the edt and even more so as in Eau Vive. AND in Allure, all of them, although the original edt is my favourite. Wow, Chanel, I know, I know about the strength issues and all that and I don't know what the deal is because even though I also do find them weaker now they still last and a VERY long time at that! Maybe it is not Chanel going bad and creating worse quality fragrances, but Chanel adjusting to today's cravings for more subtle smells? I wish they didn't/hadn't but Chance edp is still an absolutely gorgeous perfume!

Hurricane_Hilda

I have got to have this. I passed a young lady on the street and turned my head with whiplash. I shouted to her “ you smell so good what are you wearing ! “ she responded Chanel and I instantly knew she was talking about this one. I smelled Thai Chanel fragrance in a magazine once and I thought this smelled amazing. I went to a Sephora recently to confirm was this the right one. And it is ! I will be purchasing ASAP with my gift card I got for Christmas 🤤. SMELLS fresh and clean I can sniff this all day long

camden-girl

oh yeah !
chanel hits the spot again with chance edp , i blind bought based on
reviews and my love of other chanel classics , im in love ! !

softly spicy , with lashings of musky notes , i get more pink pepper
than pineapple , my skin , prehaps coz its so tastefully blended.

this seems a 2014 bottle , by batch code , its a fuzzy warm sophisticated
and very chanel , classy , the orangey / pinapple fruity notes are soft and mix
so nicely with the musk and light spice, heavenly !

At first i thought it was very similar to coco madmoiselle , but i think
their quite a bit different on the dry down , chance being smoother
Muskier, And miss maddy being a touch sharper with more prominent patchouli.

I prefer chance over miss madmoiselle a bit more on my skin
maybe it just works better , both are lovely though but i get more
iris in chance and im crazy for iris , arnt we all lol :)

this is the most modern smelling chypre ive come across too.

its a LOVE ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ nice one chanel , u never disappoint ,
lovely stuff !
11/10

I got a free sample and I hate it, first aroma was like dirty public toilet, it's so bad, its like old fashioned fragrance what old grandmas would wear. Its smells so pachouli, its makes me gag. I could not stand close to a person who wears this perfume. Everyone who smelled it agreed with me.

mdluli

A well blended perfumes, I love the dry down so much. Chanel out did it's self here.

melxx2133

This actually surprised me. I didnt think I was going to like it, as I’m not a fan of Coco Mademoiselle. I find the patchouli mixed with the rest of the notes quite sickening actually. But with chance the musks, the iris, jasmine, and patchouli work so well. It has a slight gorgeus powdery edge to it from the iris. The jasmine is a little on the indolic side but it works. I believe the pink pepper is keeping the jasmine and patchouli from smelling too earthy and indolic. Overall this is an extremely sophisticated fragrance, suitable for a woman in her mid twenties to early thirties. Full bottle worthy for me ❤️

This perfume is the daily driver for my beloved woman.
I can give a very positive feedback on it, being objective and neutral, However I'm not here to be objective, because perfumes is all about feelings and Senses.

This perfume could be easily recognised as intense, it is a strong deeply affecting scent that will drive you crazy.
It have a cloudy smell that attracts you to it, calling you to smell more, smell deeper, and as if there was an actual thing beyond smelling, something that u urge to reach.
This is the only perfume that i can actually smell if i think deep enough about it, it gives me an intimate feeling immediately and it is definitely a fingerprint perfume that I will always love, part of loving the lady who wears it.

The projection is great and the scnet is long lasting, but the senses and feelings that it contains lasts longer, it is a wintery fragrance for sure, but smelling it anytime will take u to winter.

If ur girl wears this, and she lives away, keep a bottle of this perfume around.

I started using this perfume back in 2007, it was gifted to me in a time when I barely knew me. I loved it ever since, its scent is freshly sweet and such an energy booster. It smells like fresh air on an autumn night in a park with yellowish, brownish leaves all over the ground. It combines luxury and simplicity all in one.
After 12 years, and trying to use other fragrances, I still can't stop going back to Chance. Somehow, it smells joy, and brings out the happy side of me. It defines me and every joyful young girl hidden behind the shield of a woman.

ZiZu

I tried it again yesterday after many years. Even though I really liked it, for the first 10-15 minutes I could smell a faint fecal odour, probably the indoles from the jasmine. So bizarre...

olliesmom

I accidentally bought this perfume online instead of the Eau Tendre version. The word Floral threw me off, I thought Chance floral EDP is Eau Tendre but its not. Decided to wear it anyway.

I love the initial spray, smells quite familiar, Chanel mademoiselle dna type, but simpler. I find all Chanel chance opening is somewhat similar to one another: citrusy fresh goodness with hint of something else. To my surprise, the dry down for all chance lines are very different from one another. They are all very distinct.

For Chance edp, the dry down, smells sharp, almost unpleasantly sharp. I thought i like patchouli, musk, jasmine and pepper, but the blend makes it too sharp. I was expecting a beautiful sophisticated but also bright, cheerful and happy, like mademoiselle. Nope. This perfume is best accompanied with HUGE attitude and classy outfit. It doesn't come across as playful and happy fragrance. More suited for mature women even though it is a chance line. Mademoiselle fits younger women than this one.

I am actually a little confused of how i feel about this fragrance. Maybe it doesn't suit me right now.

edit: decided i cant stand this fragrance. it is no longer in my collection.

JodieAx

Well after loving chanel chance EDT i bought this thinking it would be the same, but to me it smells quite different. when I first sprayed it I did not like it too much, I was hit with the pink pepper, a lot of spicy ness. then once it settled down on to my skin is when it starts turning to magic. a beautiful, luxurious, expensive smell. this is more heavy than the EDT and I think it suits adults only NOT a teen scent at all. particularly classy ladies but has a unisex element too.
This perfume is a love for me. I look forward to spraying it on after a shower.
I wouldn't recommend blind buying this as some might find the pepper too much or find it doesn't suit them.

Shoe Heart

This has such good reviews that I picked up a sample recently. Sillage and Longevity are very poor on me. I must say I'm disappointed in that regard. I only smell white floral in this. I do not smell any vanilla. This one is a pass for me. I tried the EDP.

This and the EDT have been favorites of mine for a long time. The vanilla scent in the dry down on EDP is nice, but for some reason I like the freshness of the EDT more.

I had a male coworker make a bug spray comment when I was wearing this last time. I think spraying on my shirt instead of skin maybe made it stronger.

chanelnumerocinq

I am reviewing the Eau de Parfum

I love the patchouli & fizzy citrus combo a lot of the relatively new Chanel perfumes have. In Chance, the patchouli deepens the scent, making the perfume rich and expensive smelling but it is lightened up by the citrus which makes it feel modern and more easy to wear in the daytime (in comparison to Coco Mademoiselle). What makes Chance stand out in particular is the pineapple - tart, sweet, and refreshing. The pink pepper is very strong which lends it an almost sporty cologne quality.

Overall, I think Chance is the ultimate preppy girl perfume. It's girly and flirty but also fresh, clean, and sporty. The sillage and longevity are very good. I find Chance suits most social occasions day or night (might be too strong for professional settings). In my opinion it is a high quality perfume that is great for any woman, but young preppy women in particular I think it would suit their aesthetic best.

catix

this is my all time favorite perfume. no matter what other perfumes I try out, I always end up returning to it.
if Coco Mademoiselle is what I put on when I need to "conquer the world", Chance is its comforting younger sister. still to be taken seriously, but without giving up on femininity.
