Edit: as this is drying down, it's really becoming less agreeable. It smells like I applied Shalimar EdT, but then washed half of it off. This is just a threadbare Shalimar with the middle cut out of it. Sad.

Lime-y shalimar. It's not bad, but doesn't live up to the hype for me, as a lover of the original. I think Philtre de Parfum is a better done flanker. It's still fresher than the original, but with more lavender and it retains some of the leathery florals that define shalimar. Eau de Shalimar simplifies the formula to basically only citrus and amber, but with just enough skank left to make it recognizably Shalimar, which is fine, but it seems like this would alienate both people who want a fresh perfume and people who adore the full glory of the original. I wonder if the original Shalimar Legere did this differently. It seems to be more beloved, but is very hard to get ahold of.

My partner decided to wear this today and I couldn't guess it is a Shalimar flanker. It smells very fresh and clean and I swear I smelled loads of lavender. I originally thought is some sort of Sport edition, and it wasn't until maybe 30 min later that it started smelling like a Shalimar. It is a very bright, fresh and clean version but it still have a very decent longevity. Overall a very nice edition, but I don't feel that it is a great loss that it got discontinued.

TaniaClamp

Eau de Shalimar is still that oriental vanilla scent like the original Shalimar EdP but with a lot of fresh citrus notes to it. The limes, oranges and bergamots have a zestiness to them which makes this scent very wearable in warm climates.

When the the jasmine, vanilla and resin kicks in in.... it really brings the ecco back to the original EdP.

Such a gem💖 !!

Sadly it`s been discontinued😥.... I will cherish my flanker to the last drop!

MakeupNeverSleeps

I don't get gourmand/sweet lemon cookies; not even in the slightest. To me, this is as if you dropped a bottle of Shalimar in a barbershop and cleaned it up with a baby wipe (in a good way). It smells like a fresh, airy and lightly powdery cologne. After a couple hours...the vanilla starts coming through more clearly, while the resin obscures its sweetness. I think it's unisex, leaning masculine. I would love to smell this on a man. The only other Shal flanker I have is Souffle, and this one lasts longer on the skin.

SissySuzanne

Gorgeous! To my nose, this is a lighter version of the 2015 Shalimar cologne which I absolutely Love.

ceeceelee

I don't find any vanilla cake at all. It's a lighter Shalimar, sure, but Shalimar Cologne not EdC, but the actual Cologne is really lovely. I"m in love with Shalimar Philtre, of all the flankers this one is the easiest to wear if you still want some of that leather, but not too much. Also, it's the sweetest in dry down, but not anywhere near cake like. Of course, we are quibbling minute differences here, lol. Shalimar is the Queen, the rest are either Princesses or her Court.

Jacklyn's Perfumery

Oh I was so sad the day I found out this was discontinued because I loved it so much. I bought back up's immediately. This is a lemon fresh powdery vanilla fluff cake with a nice dose of suede instead of heavy dark leather. This is a gourmand lovers dream especially in the spring and summer. Even my daughter who is really young took a liking to this one. And even if you don't like gourmand's you may like this one because it's the easiest of the Shalimar's to wear in comparison to the original that some can not handle. I adore the original but this was a splendid surprise. If you find the original Shalimar challenging or would like a different take on Shalimar I highly suggest this one. It's a delicious treat.

plodee

This is for Eau de Shalimar. I've worn Shalimar in it's many forms for decades, and I must say, this is the absolute most exquisite, feminine version there is. It dries down to the most beautiful powdery iris musky vanilla ... just beautiful! I can't say enough. First spray is powdery, vanilla-lime cream ... but oh the path she takes!
If anyone has a bottle/bottles they would like to trade .. message me. I have much more than what's listed.

john_borgia_

masculine elegance...in a bottle 9.5/10 ....it's unisex for sure

Lalunalynn

I desperately want a bottle of this, but it's proving to be hard to find 😔
This is my absolute favorite Shalimar. I love it from the first spritz to the last dying embers of the dry down, and that is rare for me. There's always something I wish I could take out, but this is simply exquisite 😙👌

mademoisellesteph

I just loved this shalimar. For summer it is just perfect.
Unfortunately it is discontinued and I can't find it anymore. Neither the shalimar cologne which looked like it.
Any idea where to find it? Or anybody ready to write dozen of emails to guerlain to make it back?

fullbottleworthy

THIS is the perfume that made me love Shalimar and also made me love citrus, which I very much dislike in perfume, in general. Somehow this manages to be an absolutely classy, elegant, and professional perfume, while at the same time being so fun and satisfying my sweet tooth and my constant craving for gourmands. It opens with this light, almost ethereal citrus which is neither sour nor fresh, really. It's almost like a light, perfectly balanced limeade that has neither too much sugar nor the puckery sourness of the fresh fruit. That citrus is absolutely mouthwatering, and then it's accompanied by the gorgeous, albeit subtle, florals, mainly iris, and then of course that massive dose of Guerlain vanilla which I find so enticing. IMHO Guerlain vanilla is unmatched in the perfume world. As a whole, the composition is reminiscent of a key lime pie or a lemon pie, if it were whipped up and turned into a cloud. It's absolutely breathtaking and I'm so glad this was an absolutely random, out-of-nowhere blind buy. I have no idea what even possessed me to purchase this, as it is so different from the original Shalimar, but I will treasure it now that it is discontinued! For those who are curious, yes you can tell this is a flanker of Shalimar, as the DNA is there, but this is a 2nd cousin maybe, or great Aunt. There is no leather or animals or heaviness in this, as there is in the original. (By the way I also like the original Shalimar but I prefer the vanilla-centric flankers, the Souffle Intense, and of course the Eau de Shalimar, all of which I find to be more modern and suited to my taste.)

girl1000

This is much closer to original Shalimar than the current reformulation of Shalimar. I have a bottle I'd put in a drawer and forgotten. I got it out today and sniffed. Ah, original Shalimar again, at last, but with a lighter touch. If you miss the original formulation of Shalimar, I suggest you give this a try.

LightOfJoy

This Shalimar incarnation begins with a barbershop lime blast and then morphs into a resinous vanilla. I find this one to do really well in the heat. It doesn't project much without it.

SailorV

This feels like a very diluted, stripped-down Shalimar with the addition of a lime creamsicle scent and other citrus notes. I like the classic bergamot in Shalimar better than the strong lime in this. Of course Eau de Shalimar also has a big dose of vanilla and some oriental, resinous, almost leathery notes. They are quite noticeable for such a light scent. As a whole this feels like a soft powdery veil of a fragrance.

I'm haven't tried a lot of Shalimar flankers yet, but there are so many of them that I wouldn't chose this one. To be honest I find it a little flat, it doesn't have that sparkling, elegant special something that I love in many Guerlains from the classics to the exclusives to the LPRNs. It's pleasant and surely easier to wear than Shalimar itself, but so are Shalimar Parfum Initial and PI L'Eau and those are much more exciting to my nose.

ReWeegh

I bought Eau de Shalimar first 1.5 years ago based on the praising reviews here. Original Shalimar does not work on my skin (burned rubber), so thought I would give EdS a shot. After the first spray I immediately packed it back and next day returned it. It was so strong, mumsy..etc, I could not keep it (original 2008 flacon).

A year later I discovered Shalimar Cologne and fall in love with that sweet vanilla-lemon cake beauty. That one had the same DNA than EdS, but way much smoother, creamier, sweeter. It was easy to fell in love with.

Then I thought this many people can’t be wrong, let’s give it a try again, maybe I was just not ready yet for this.

It has arrived today, and was a complete surprise (new Jade Jagger flacon). Maybe because of Shalimar Cologne, maybe I got more experienced with fragrances, but now I could understand and enjoy EdS.
It opens still with a strong, crisp lime-bergamot combo, not as sweet and creamy as the Cologne, but much more fresh, resin is moderately there.. 30 min later starts the transformation to a nice citrusy-iris scent with vanilla undertone and ends with a cool vanilla, not sweet creamy, but cool, classy, and stays for hours. I couldn’t resist and was keep sniffing my wrist. Really unique and interesting and definitely stays with me!

Update after few weeks of testing and wearing: It is LOVE! Can’t get enough of the unique cold-breeze vanilla! Cheers me up when I’m moody, comforts when work is stressful.

marusiatko

I m wearing this fragrance on my left hand and Shalimar Souffle on the right one. I think that both differ a lot from original Shalimar. The first one is very lemony and powdery, the Souffle is musky and powdery. On me, sillage of both of them is not very strong, even if they stay quite long on the skin-they stay close to the skin. I think that both of these creations are unique in their own sense. Comparing to La vie est belle trends, they are totally different, not mainstream at all. I bet you won t meet a lot of people wearing these two underrated fragrances. The weird thing for me is that despite the fact that I ve had them for years in my stash, I feel never compelled to wear them. "Guerlinade" does not seem to marry with my skin as good as "Chanelinade" ;)

Siv7Stars

Disappointed so far, it just smells like the usual Shalimar skeleton with strong boiled lemon hard candy sweets. I was hoping for lime with a cool vanilla but it's a bit warm n threatening to go plasticky, which is my worst note!
It develops into a more meringue like scent but it's still not the cold vanilla lime combo I wanted.

ediebee

Some people suggested the idea that if you like Shalimar Cologne, then Eau de Shalimar can be a better choice to get for its similar but richer smell and availability. I gotta say it's not the case. I had a Shalimar Cologne sample first, it's straight up glazed lemon cookie. While this Eau de Shalimar shows as balsamic salted lemon flavor, which smells sophisticated also lasts way longer(10 hours plus skin scent), it can be some more of a memorable Shalimar flanker. But I just want to be cheesy and smell like lemon cookie, so I'll still get one Shalimar Cologne for that sake.

Papavero0

This is similar to the Shalimar Eau de Cologne, but it is not the same. Yes, it is the grand Shalimar family, one detects similar vibes, notes, accords. However, the EDC is much more vanilla, more lemony-leather sweet, warm while this is more powdery animalic. For me, two different facets of the goold-old one and only Shalimar.

pozimhoff

I love to start out a bright sunny day with Eau de Shalimar. Refreshing, delicious sweet citrus with a kiss of Shalimar. I work up to Shalimar extrait by evening by switiching to the EDT in early afternoon. A real winner for summer or if you feel a tad intimidated by the original Shalimar.

gtabasso

smells like a lemon drop candy in the top and middle; dries down with vanilla and tonka, little more resinous then all about the tonka and resin.

tropicalkuuipo

This perfume is very soft and gentle. Notes of warm spice, vanilla, slight citrus. Very powdery. Kind of oriental. I don’t love it, I don’t hate it. I have a tester, but I wouldn’t buy it.

churinl

My first impression is that it smells almost exactly like an orange creamsicle. Not awful, but not something I aspire to smell like! Give it time to settle down and the familiar notes of Shalimar begin to emerge and it becomes a nice way to be able to enjoy Shalimar when you don't want to shout and prefer to whisper. Very nice!

ForrealMe2

This was a top perfume for me for a long time and for right reason..it is delicious lemon vanilla fuzzy goodness...and I am saddened to see this is being discontinued..I can not live without this one and I will always have a bottle of it..I love the original shalimar and the vintage edc but sometimes I just want the tops to this fragrance and that is what EDS provides..the fresh and fun aspects to Shalimar in comparison to the deep and sensual side of shalimar with the leather and spices...EDS has a suede leather vibe going on with it too...This is a huge mistake for Guerlian to discontinue this fragrance..Huge!..
Either way if you like suede and gourmands you will love the freshness and tartiness out of this one but then be amazed by the cozy and fuzzy vanilla..Eau De Shalimar is something to experience..I don't mind spraying this over and over either..and my daughter loves this one too...I just can't part with it!!

Jez

On me, this is acrid vanilla the first half hour to an hour. Citrus - what citrus? Where? Rather, there is an alcoholic sharpness that I am not used to with Guerlains... Very harsh and uninviting. An hour into the wearing, the bitterness gets under control a bit, and the vanilla becomes a little more tame - powdery and a bit peppery. Still not a like, though. I was hoping that a Guerlain vanilla would convert me to enjoy vanilla scents, but unfortunately, even expensive vanilla just doesn't deal well with my nose.

Ashleighgreen

Puffs of lemony powder. Soft and delicate. This perfume is completely delicious and I might even prefer it to the original! Gasp!

annxyz

This was a blind buy for me after finding Shalimar Initial to be discontinued. I ordered it and hoped for the best , and I can honestly say it is wonderful and an impressive creation .

It has the essential Shalimar notes ( no burned rubber opening ) to remind me it is Shalimar. However , it is softer , warmer and just as long lasting . I love that it is NOT TOO SWEET , nor does it smell like a cookie. The citrus and vanilla give it a fresh vibe , and the powder softens it and keeps the old fashioned vibe alive . Guerlain really got it right on this one ! I consider this a great value for a quality fragrance that will appeal to women who like to smell feminine and sophisticated . On top of that , the bottle is gorgeous enough to set next to my bed , instead of in the bathroom.

This fragrance is so lovely I am ordering a second bottle as a backup and another as a gift for a dear friend . It is perfume perfection , and I own a lot of perfume .

lilylaurelin

This was a blind-buy for me and unfortunately I had to return :/ I was really looking forward to this fragrance since I love citrus and vanilla notes. However, I never got any citrus when I used this! Instead, it smelled overwhemling-ly of powder, which is a huge negative for me. I also might just have an un-trained nose, but I didn't smell any dry down progression. Just straight-up sweet powder. Only positive (for people who like this scent) is that it had amazing longevity...I could smell it after twenty-four hours.

Annemarie

I'm always on the fence with the original Shalimar. Don't love it, don't hate it. So Eau de Shalimar's resemblance to the original is not important to me.

And I do really love Eau de Shalimar, especially for the texture. It has a light, polished powdery feel, like a silken veil that just warms and lightly scents the air around me. EdeS feels slightly retro - maybe the subtle note of iris contributes to that - but does not smell dated or costume-y. EdeS is elegant but not cold, gently sweet but not too gourmand (I generally dislike gourmands).

(I don't love the opening; I find the 'lime' note artificial and slightly - but weirdly - bitter. Or maybe that's the bergamot. )

Three spritzes is enough for me and lasts all day. More than that and I feel stifled; the veil becomes a blanket.

cufberte.daniem

While I can completely understand people saying that this doesn't remind them of Shalimar, I find myself respectfully disagreeing. This is Shalimar's youthful sister to me, with the innocence to match. It's sweet, bubbly and just a bit alluring. It's far from my favourite Shalimar but I love to wear it in any weather. It reminds me key lime pie, with a lot of vanilla essence. I can't say much more other than 'I love it!'

addiehominem

Eau de Shalimar is beautiful. Everything from its aroma to its bottle screams elegance. I'm sad that this is being discontinued--there are so many fragrances out there that aren't worth their salt, it's just not right that they get to exist and EDS can't.

First spray: this comes out fizzy and lime-laden. It's literally like opening a can of lime pop. I can almost feel the fizzes prickle my nose when I inhale. The vanilla makes a subdued entrance and stays firmly behind the lime. It's sweet enough to make this Shalimar smell delicious, but unintrusive and refined. It's a masterfully done flanker.

If you love gourmands, try this.

CatherineB9

This is a much lighter version of the original. My 5 year old told me I smelled like a vanilla cupcake! I get soft citrus, vanilla and powder. It’s nice enough for me!

LuvTea

I was looking for a lighter version of Shalimar with prominent citrus. This is just perfect. Lovely lemon, bergamot and vanilla. Smells almost like a lemon dessert initially. This works for me.

Lilacs&Lavender

It never ceases to amaze me when wonderful fragrances like this are pulled. Did the Guerlain marketing department do an inadequate job advertising this, or is the problem low sales due to the fact that the Shalimar name is attached, and people are weary of flankers?

In my opinion, Eau De Shalimar EDT has little in common with the original. It might have done better if it was given an entirely new Guerlain name and flacon design. Gone is the sandalwood, leather and incense which is what Shalimar is all about really. Eau de Shalimar is a delightfully surprising citrusy fragrance with vanilla playing peek-a-boo a few seconds behind. Each time I catch a whiff of the citrus, there is the sweet aftertaste surprising me. It's a magic trick known only to master Perfumers I'm sure. Well done Guerlain on creating this beautiful scent, but shame on you for taking it away from me.

If you are considering buying this discontinued beauty, you had better hurry.

spiderleenie

This is pretty much the "lemon pound cake" version of the original Shalimar. Yes, I would classify this fragrance as a "gourmand," but it still smells like something that would belong in the Shalimar family. If you hate the original Shalimar, I don't think that this version of it would convert you. If you love the original Shalimar, I think you'll enjoy this one.

If you are like me, though ... You will love this perfume. I enjoy the original Shalimar very much, but it always seems to feel too heavy on me whenever I wear it. This lighter version of it allows me to enjoy the "gist" of the original Shalimar without it seeming too heavy or cloying for me-- the best of both worlds. I have very fond memories of my grandmother wearing Shalimar, so I am very happy about finding a version of it that works for me. :)

I would also add that if you are someone who loves gourmands but doesn't want to smell immature or like cotton candy, then I highly recommend this perfume.

JamesBeach

I'm a big fan of original Shalimar. This is similar I suppose but the most striking resemblance is to Jean Nate. They both sparkle with abstract citrus for a few minutes before resolving to a heart of gauzy, inedible vanilla. To emphasize, Eau de Shalimar's citrus opening doesn't linger for long and that's the part where it bears the strongest resemblance to mother Shalimar.

I might prefer Nate's second act to Eau de Shalimar's, actually. The former is more powdery and has kind of a brightness to it that I enjoy while the latter smells more subdued and medicinal, almost like a scented lotion. In the deep dry down, Eau de Shalimar starts to resemble Jicky.

I'm perhaps a little disappointed. I think Shalimar Parfum Initial is a better update of the classic for modern tastes and preserves more of Shalimar's soul in a way that's still approachable and so that would be my recommendation for those who find full-flavored Shalimar difficult to wear.

invisiblewoman

This is lovely stuff. Light and fresh, with a nice citrus-vanilla finish. Good for summer and for daytime. I have no complaints, but as a newcomer, I have nothing with which to compare.

Nuitdenoel

Wonderful, fluffy citrus and vanille. Lighter than the grande dame Shalimar. No leather or noticeable Guerlainade. Lovely, powdery iris gives it a fluffy feeling. Not too sweet but certainly not a “dry” perfume. Ellen Tracy Bronze is very similar but sweeter and less refined. I am so happy that I got the largest bottle available.

hyu80

I smell orange peels in the beginning, lots of it. Vanilla not shows up until the end, and it's a beautiful sweetness. I like it.

Sabretoothkitten

So pretty! I want this next on my Shalimar list.

Cypka Drypka

I think Eau is just much better balanced version of classic Shalimar edp, more on the sour-sweet bergamot side, mixed with delicate vanilla and resins it reminds me of lemon curd. Citrusy, yet sweet, balsamic but not too heavy and nauseting, much more natural and subtle than edp. I was surprised about longetivity- at least 7hrs. Definetely my favorite of Shalimar family so far.

Annabear

Apart from Shalimar Souffle De parfum intense, this is easily my favourite Shalimar fragrance.
I found the original EDP and EDT although beautiful, a little oily and heavy, the dry down being their saving grace...and then they’re magnificent. But this one is gorgeous, ethereal, fresh and vanilla from the start.
It’s beautiful and unique, and will only become more of a stand out in a market that favours screeching fruits, synthetic confectionery and artificial resinous woods.

Tigi

SHALIMAR!
She is incredible in every form and tribute, including and perhaps especially the Eau. The citrus IS amped-up, the vanilla softer. Eau de Shalimar is incredibly beautiful. I can't even fully articulate the love that I *immediately* have for her.
Specifically, if you've tried the Grande Dame, Shalimar eau de parfum (and higher concentrations) but found something in her a bit overwhelming at this time in your fragrance journey, Eau de Shalimar may be far more to your liking. She is Shalimar's younger, casual sister. Elegant but at ease; classic white-cotton v-neck t-shirt, dark denim skinny-jeans, a natural Mediterranean beauty whose breezy personality draws you in and welcomes you to be at ease, all in the same delicately-citric breath. The gentle citrus is, indeed, the leader in this refreshing, easy-going flanker, whose leather, incense, and civet are more conservatively employed, lightening up the mood and demeanor of this polarizing, inimitable classic and affording the wearer a confident, comfortable elegance. Delightful, as always!

supertw94109

Wow the wonderful citrus notes of some of the old Guerlain colognes so tart and refreshing and clean. I love to layer this with the darker smokier Shalimars for a brightening effect and the heavier Shalimars can supply the richer base

mapache

Wow..
Received this today. Very interesting.....
At first spritz....I get the citrus...lime/bergamot/mandarin/alcohol-ish....then I find later underneath...vanilla...then the iris/rose combo...lightly...I guess the resins hold/balance all these together. I do not get that Shalimar original DNA at all. I find this very unisex....kinda fresh/clean vibe...touch of sweetness too. Maybe even a little Habit Rouge vibe...???.... Really different from other Shalimar flankers. I did NOT NOT like Souffle de Parfum!! This is not like that one or any of the Initials...(thank God). This one on me, has moderate projection/sillage...light airy..with a "zing". To my nose, the rose in this is ....???..where is it?? LOL.But I do get the Iris vibe.
Final thoughts....I really like it !!

EDIT: Hmmm..now that it's drying down...the original Shalimar DNA is lightly coming out...wow....it's even better than I thought !!!!!!!

EDIT 2: Eau de Shalimar is not lasting on me !! I think I will finally break down and get a good ole' original Shalimar EDT to use for layering when I need extra "ooomph" in my life...lol

PurpleIris49

My favorite of all the Shalimar. This comes close to being what I remember of the vintage Shalimar. Opens with citrus and on me, goes straight to the base. The resin sets this apart from most anything else I own and the iris keeps things a touch powdery. Light enough to wear during the summer or year round. Lasts about three, maybe four hours with good projection. I once thought it reminded me of Jean Nate with iris and vanilla. Good stuff.

diana2015

There's no fragrance I love more than the original Shalimar, but ED Shalimar runs a close second. This is both for those who love the iconic Shalimar and for those who want to give it a try. I don't see how anyone could hate this version, really. It's fresh, sweet (not too sweet) and suited for hot weather. It makes me enjoy the brilliantly sunny days more and it lifts my spirits on the gloomy ones. I'm going to miss it because, of course, it's been discontinued.
I strongly believe that Guerlain house makes some of the best perfumes, so I can't for the life of me understand why they keep discontinuing beautiful fragrances like this one.

osy2017

Absolutley lovely, the freshnes of the citrus and the bones of the Shalimar go amazingly well for summer days. Love it!

cocolover56

After watching a review by a youtuber that I don't always like, but find to be refreshingly honest and unpretentious, I decided to try this. She stated that under the impression that this would be similar to a previous edition of Shalimar, she purchased this only to find it smelt of lemon candy.

Now, I whole heartedly agree with that statement - it really, truly does. However, Shalimar is definitely there. I've only worn this in late Autumn, early Winter.. I can't exactly speak from true experience, but I love this. It lasts so long, and is quite strong.

Cypressmoon

Hm. I have had this awhile and I have come to appreciate a few things. That puff of powder with each spritz. Does any other perfume do that? I mean it doesn't just become powdery on the skin, instead its like you are spritzing powder in a nice little cloud which happens to be in the direction of your skin. The quality is unmistakable. I even like the resins too which at first I thought were too masculine, too dusty. But now I find that incredibly comforting as well. I bought this version for the Florida heat, and find I am really loving it. Kind of snuck up on me, this appreciation.

Blueflowers

I find this to be a sweeter, sunnier Shalimar, just what I was looking for.

I still love original Shalimar for every other season but high summer, and I think a few light sprays of this will be lovely on those short summer nights.

The metallic citrus opening reminds me of original Shalimar--so much so that I worried it would not perform as I hoped and expected. I was foolish to doubt this flanker. As it dries the vanilla and sweet citrus rise to the front with an ambery base that provides a solid foundation for the airy, whipped cream delectability that swirls around on top.

It is a Shalimar, after all, so it's deeper and more complex than other candy sweet gourmands I've smelled, but I truly get a rich lemon custard vibe from it.

It doesn't have the longevity and sillage of the original, but since O.G. Shalimar is downright legendary in those respects, I wasn't expecting it to.

UPDATE: I have been wearing this in the chilly November air, and it is still lovely! The bright lemon dessert and pale amber shine in the cold.

_christine_

A simplified Shalimar with a blast of bright, not-too-tart lime. This is an easy-going Shalimar, content to work its subtle magic within an arm's distance. There's none of Shalimar's smoke or leather or animal or wood. Instead, this perfume evokes memories of Shalimar in its powder and citrus.

Eau de Shalimar isn't a powerhouse, but it's enjoyable and worthy of a spot in the office scents rotation.

amanda7

The first smell is like lemon cake with vanille sugar. It´s very fresh and I like it because it´s the shalimar I can wear in hotter weather.

Papavero0

I'd round off the previous comments by saying that indeed it is the "summer" version for Shalimar, much more wearable in warmer climates/weather, it is much less animalic, warm and leathery obviously as one would expect...the only downside for me is that it's a bit too mellowed down...It remains close to the skin, it has a low projection. There nothing wrong with that, I just thought that some of you might want to know that.

I bought this simply because I wanted something similar to Shalimar that could easily be worn in warm weather. This is not mind blowing like the original but it has some similarities. I also find it similar to Emeraude by Coty except not as mature and more interesting. The scent I like; however the performance is not so great.

Black_Swan

I'm not impressed with the modern Shalimar - but I thought I would give this one a try since I love citrus. I wasn't sure about the citrus/vanilla combination, but I figured if anyone can make it work, it's Guerlain. Really all I get is lemon chiffon on top of vanilla - they didn't seem to add enough complexity to smooth out the edges. Also, I found the lemon screechy and the vanilla harsh, synthetic and loud, so the whole concoction smells cheap and thrown together to me. If the lemon opening had been softer and creamier, and the vanilla and had been quieter and more natural, this may have been a winner. I expected a little more from Guerlain.

This certainly possesses a vintage edge to it, much like original Shalimar. What differs Eau from the original is mostly the wearability. Where the original is coarse, smokey, dry and prickly, Eau is smoother, more innocent and offers a more edible vanilla. The opening is particularly classy, with an astringent, slightly bitter lime and bergamot. It's the dry down that made me fall in love, the vanilla is unique, patchy and obviously similar to the original's vanilla, toned down. As a gourmand lover I would place this in between gourmand and oriental classy vanilla, as this is the more edible of the Shalimars yet not literally cake like. Either way, this is a must try even for original Shalimar haters. This might be the level of classy wearability that does it for you.

Luna Blu

I just felt in love with it, just as with the Parfum Initial! First I feel lemon, and some vanilla, and these are beautiful blended! Than I feel the base of the classic Shalimar but just as much as not to bother me, the oriental base of resin gives him some deep and mistery to the fluffy citrus notes. The old Shalimar is there..and it is still not there. So don't worry! If the classic is too much for you with too much leather, here you have Eau de Shalimar! Perfect for sommer, or spring, or wherever do you want to wear it.
It is fluffy but also very elegant!
After awhile the citrus notes calm down and beautiful elegant and sensual flowers are blooming on the same oriental base.

janeofdoe

Lemon hubig pies....and that is NOT an Insult. This is magnificent and just as long lasting as the edp, on me.

Sabretoothkitten

My favorite Shalimar so far, all dessert, less flapper .Save the real Shalimar for when you want to be naughty, this one is more wearable and socially acceptable. Its like the flappers ingenue sis who hasn't been corrupted by cigs, tobacco and the Charleston yet. I like the lime cake aspect, the oil/dirty hair aspect of original Shalimar is barely perceptible.

GreenPistachio

Dec.5,30-some degrees outside, This seems to be excellent weather for wearing eau de shalimar (yes, I do wear this year round.) The lime is very much present but the vanilla/resin is much more detectable, (as it dries down the lime calms and you smell more vanilla!!
Warmer weather definitely brings the citrus notes more to life.

AntigoneAscending

I was so hopeful about this perfume. I wanted something Shalimar-esque without being to heavy or old fashioned. This is one bottle I will not be wearing ever. Just to heavy. Where is the soft vanilla and lime. I smell nothing but spicy woods, no florals or softness. Color me bummed.

Emcia

This is a beautiful "gateway" Shalimar. I don't own any of the more intense concentrations, just this and Shalimar eau de cologne. Both are gorgeous creations. For cooler weather, I have the EdC. This one (Eau de Shalimar) is so fluffy and light and perfectly blended, and perfect for warmer weather. I spray a good amount and it creates a pleasant but unobtrusive cloud. This is a good perfume to wear when you don't feel like wearing perfume. The opening is lime zest. I don't really get roses or jasmine but I do get a realistic, whipped vanilla in the heart and drydown. The overall feeling is chic and put together, not overdone.

joenick68

I have become a Shalimar's flankers fun but I still do not own the original first version of it, and I am wearing by itself this Eau version of it and I am quite pleased of how it performs, IMO is very unisex and easy to wear, the rose not it was the first one discovered by my coworker, but is not that powdery rose, and over all I liked it and will keep it in my collection.

mschnabel666

Well... this is better than Souffle... which I found weak and dusty... This is better.
A powdery lemon vanilla cookie! With average-kinda-weak sillage/potency... but stronger than Souffle.

Def just a tiny shade of previous Shalimars.

Overall, I do like it.
I layered it over the Shal EDT and loved the result. It oomphed up the EDT and both lasted as a skin-aura around me until the next morning.

But- if you love Shalimar and must have them all-- this is average at best.

IrisLily

I love this! I have been reaching it for a lot lately, day and night. There are great reviews describing the specifics, so I'll just say it is a perfect blend of the notes described with a special emphasis on lime and vanilla, notes I am not normally drawn to. I love Souffle, and I am starting to really love this one as well. It smells like a modern, softer, prettier version of Coty's Emeraude.

GreenPistachio

I'm thinking of a candle made from hard lemon candies, burning lightly. (Although in this case, it would be lime, instead of lemon) You will smell lime rather than a basic "citrus" scent. The vanilla and resin combine and remind me of candle in a good, "perfumey" way. Maybe a hint of powderyness from the iris? On me, I smell more of the resin note, however, when my sister wears this, it smells like creamy, powdery, lime candy.

weegee

A perfect "summer weight" Shalimar that smells like a cross between lemon meringue and key lime pie with all the soft vanilla deliciousness of original Shalimar. I get 6-7 hour longevity before it becomes a skin scent but I think that's about right for a summer scent. It's so humid here in Kentucky that perspiration tends to wash fragrance away rather quickly. Lots of compliments, all variations of "You smell edible!"

PerfumeEmpress

My sister sent me a sample of this and I fell in love with it. I ordered a bottle and it arrived today. I am over the moon! This is one of the most beautiful scents in my collection. Summery, but not the same old same old citrus scent. And it lasts!

oks-oks

After the first 'wrong' bottle of this (see my review below) I started hunting for the older version in the bottle without the 'foot'. Ordered one (or I though I did) on solippy.co.uk. The picture showed the old version but what came was the same new version I had had before, on the foot but the ribbon was navy blue, not white. And guess what - it is a much better version. Nicer, stronger and much-much longer lasting. The lime is quite natural and the vanilla is beautiful! It is a real Guerlain vanilla as in other Shalimars. I am very happy I've got the right one finally!

Rie60

I got a great deal on a bottle of this from a perfume outlet, only bottle they had and the young sales girl didn't even know what it was--no price so she priced it for me very low (it was at about 98%). I want to love this, know I should love this, it's a classic...but I just cannot get past what I smell as a medicinal band-aid. And thats all I recognize- does anyone else smell this?

Norgirl

ohh how i miss this beauty . I had the od style bottle and it was such a treat bouth to eye and on my skin . Somehow i was stupid enough to swapp it away :( Now i miss it so much . I realy enjoy the vanilla citrus lime twist this brings on skin , and the powderyness sigh its such a treat , But be carefull to not put to much on , it might be to much of a good thing ;)
But a few sprits and this will linger around you and make you smile and feal uplifted for hours .

I would like to leave this review as a warning probably. To start with, I love the Guerlain house and especially love the Shalimar flankers (I have 2 adorable Initials). So after reading your reviews here I was almost sure it would be a safe blind buy for me. Got a brand new full 90 ml bottle from the fragrance seller off the UK Ebay to stock up as they had been discontinued.

Well, the bottle (like the main picture here, on the 'foot' with white ribbon) did give the initial splash on the second push, not the 3rd of 4th as usual. I thought it was strange. But the worst was the fragrance. The strong initial lime blast was very chemical, after about 20 minutes the fragrance (even put on generously) would disappear and then in a while come back so quiet that I had to press my nose to skin to smell some faint sweetish lime food flavouring. Like this it stayed for a couple of hours. The bottle went back to the seller. They accepted the return with no fuss, I should give it to them. I have a feeling that this might be a fake or some kind of a 'grey' production of the factory. Not sure but it definitely is not right. Just thought I'd let the others know.

I'll try to hunt down the original now in the bottle like the one in the top right picture (no 'foot'), it's supposed to be the older formula and heavier on resins. Really curious to try this properly

jacmac

This one smells like key-lime pie in the opening, a bright, slightly oriental citrus with a bergamot edge. A little while in I get more spice, light musk, almost an incensey spice (probably the resin), but not vanilla like Shalimar edp. Still thinking about this one, not sure I want to smell like key lime pie.

Great perfume! Eau de Shalimar is a balance to the sultry and a scarf for álgidos days. Yes, it works in the heat and cold and the satisfaction of other delight this fragrance. To this day I walk looking for a Guerlain NOT pay / serve, [laughs] ... it is not possible, how can one be so exceptional in Maison absolutely all his creations ?! (I speak for me, from the perception that I have in the trials, as well as acquisitions of fragrances House) Everything we create is the most high-profile of the qualities 1000, outside the sui generis attributes of the House that we call "guerlainidade" it needs no comment. Eau de Shalimar was launched in 2008 and is an eminent creation Jean Paul Guerlain, who like all his creations can perpetuate the timeless classics to without falling into monotony of sausages water compared to the varied creations today. The fragrance opens quite citrus, a mix of oranges and lemons sweetened naturally fructose same thing, nothing artificial additive in its opening, beautiful thing to feel. This mix evolves into a floral heart of Rose and Jasmine and give a fresh lemon pie aspect that is cause salivation; your heart is enduring and which yields most praise for the fragrance. Finally comes the footprint "guerlain" to be where the touch of makeup by Iris joins the sweetness of vanilla fleeing the cooking characteristics, forming a dry resinous feeling, but at the same refreshing time, because of the notes citrus mix between Lemon and Orange its opening that last up to its base. Definitely a fragrance to call "my", which deserves applause and confetti. It looks good in any weather and decorates at any time, ditto. Besides the slight feeling you have, fixed and design absurdly well, never known anything in the line of citrus that could match.

Word of the day: self-assertion... (day 11)

LaUna

This is beautiful, vintage meets contemporary lady in style. Incense and vanilla with hints of citrus. Roses and violets in perfect composition add to that powdery feel.
Can't get enough of it lately :) If you think original Shalimar is too strong or for evening occasions only, this is worth a try, I like this for day or night.
It's classy and powdery, nostalgic, and smells wonderful.
Moderate silage, 3-4 hours, can still smell it close to skin, warm powdery vanilla. Price wise very affordable.

I think I'm going to get a lot of stink eye for this but this perfume literally smells to me like Pink Sugar's older sister. Or Pink Sugar a la grown up. A sophisticated version of my once-signature, favorite, perfume.

Pink Sugar worked SO well against my skin, and it garnered several reactions from people, even strangers, and they were usually positive -- but it was always noticed on me. I was known by my scent by some people I used to live around; on one occasion some acquaintances who lived on the floor below me let me know that they knew I had just been in the elevator because they could smell I was there... haha. Anyway, my point is that after the first day I wore Eau De Shalimar, I received two compliments, one from an older man who told me it reminded him of a woman he used to date when he was young, and another from a woman who was intrigued by it and came to ask me what I was wearing. I told her, of course. It's interesting to think that the scents we choose to wear can conjure up memories from one's past, and that this could subconsciously (or consciously) influence their reaction to or opinion of us. Moving on...

It also smells a lot like Prada Candy to me; I think the similarities in all of these perfumes (and why they happen to work the best with my skin chemistry) is because of the resinous and musky notes in combo with the intense gourmand-y sweetness.

This is the most beautiful perfume I've ever laid my nose on. And it smells just as gorgeous on my skin. It is sweet, but the sweetness is akin to a lemon cake, vs a chocolate cake. I should mention that I do feel little bit like a lemon tart as I wear this rn. It is so well-balanced; the citruses, which I normally do not prefer, are not at all sharp, but definitely present. I presume that they are rounded out so well by the powdery-ness of the flowers, which don't express themselves as your typical florals do, but add to the powdery and sweet scent of this perfume. It is indeed very powdery, but no young person should be intimidated by that fact because it doesn't come off as baby-powder powdery and I don't associate it at all with my grandma. The powder notes in this simply add depth and make the citruses more soft and easy to wear. Lastly, the Queen of Eau De Shalimar is the vanilla note. It is clearly vanilla, but I'm not sure I'd be able to identify it as such if I were to just smell this on somebody else, which is interesting, because I think it is what makes this perfume so lovable.

In two words: yummy; elegant.

I had to take the time and I had to get used to this perfume, because for me it's a bit different from other Shalimar variations I've tried so far.
The opening is strong, a bit bitter, almost masculine, green lemon aroma -fresh, surprisingly realistic and dazzling. Then suddenly I smelled a beautiful vanilla, which mixed with that lemon bliss and created the smell of a dessert I loved as a child (a fine curd vanilla-lemon dessert). A thick, creamy, light yellow, a bit milky, sweet vanilla-lemon surprise for me! When this stage was over (after about 20 minutes), I started to recognize The Shalimar -thick, balsamic, oriental powder wonder with a touch of leather and spices. Only here the powder is lighter (it allows you to breathe), more flowery, fresher due to the presence of citruses at the beginning. The leather is lingering, very fine, white. And that "dessert" scent stays ( I just love that!), just gets weaker. Like a light, sparkling veil reminding the regular beauty. I guess this could work well for the people who can't wear the regular Shalimar. The bottle is stunning as always! It's perfect for colder weather, like a light, but warm, soft scarf over the shoulders. I can imagine some kind of a magic, positive, feminine fairy-tale creature wearing this to reinforce her magic power. Makes me feel calm, secure and elegant. A calm, whispering sophistication.

I received this in a swap and I think the name Eau de Shalimar sums it pretty much up perfectly. It is definitely an eau. This is the most Shalimar from all the flankers, but softer, more transparent - some call it watered down. I agree! But by this, it is the easiest to wear on a day to day basis because Shalimar can be a bit much sometimes. It's fall now and I could totally see someone wearing this for warmer months, but I just prefer cooler weather for Shalimar.

What I love about the original is the vanilla dry down. This one has the same sort of toasty, warm and resinous vanilla cloud. It lasts a good 5-6 hours on me, but mostly as a skin scent - which I'm actually preferring nowadays anyway.

I'm so happy to have this in my collection, but still waiting to add the original when I want a bit more oomph.

jana.hullinghorst

Oy this is such a beautiful, easy to wear, version of Shalimar! I am a bit timid when it comes to super balmy smokey vanilla scents, and this one gives me all of those elements in enough moderation that I feel like myself when I wear it. I hope to one day work up to pulling off the original, but this one is a great stepping stone on my way. I have SPI and SPI L'eau as well. This one has a more oriental feel, less aromatic. More resinous but also fresher than SPI and L'eau. A good one to try if you're not a fan tonka.

AnnaT

ha that is indeed eau de formula.

It is still nice. A brust of strong lemon immediately upon applicaiton. Not as orange as say Initial. After an hour or two eau de becomes skin scent but as i move around, there is soft vanville and some incense discernable from time to time up to 4 hours.

I like stronger perfum. So i need at least Shalimar edt.

emmarion

Something about this evoked a sense memory from my childhood, and it wasn't until I looked at the notes that I put my finger on it. The resin is the loudest note on my skin, and it reminds me of a wonderful dance teacher I used to have as a child. She was a total gypsy, who used to make birthstone necklaces for all her students. She smelled like resin, incense and soap. And although not listed here, those are the notes I get from this beautiful perfume. The SA at a department store tried to talk me out of buying it because it's "too sophisticated for someone my age" but at 20 years old I absolutely adore this scent. It feels bohemian and freeing, like a summer spent at festivals without a care in the world. Guerlain as always, manages to create a fragrance that smells almost as natural as the notes listed. No sickly synthetic chemicals that start to make me nauseated after a day of wearing it. Just clean, elegant beauty that I wish would never end.

magie

Very nice citrus at the beginning, bright and fresh and lemony, then it settles down and the iris and rose come out. There is no resin on my skin but the lemon-lime keeps peeking in and out though out the day. After a while it become a soft vanilla, not to sweet and very wearable for hot summer days. I love the original for fall and winter, but it is to cloying for summer, so when I found the Eau de Shalimar I decided to give it a whirl. I really like this one. I love the zestiness of the opening and the heart is like lemon cream pie. It last a good 8 hours but isn't to sweet or to creamy. This is a great version of Shalimar for summer.

LuScentinTenebris

This opens like a household cleaning product or a wet wipe from a BBQ joint, then softens into vanilla-scented baby powder with a bit of lemon-lime baby wipe. I guess my point is that it smells like baby wipes, but clean, inoffensive, vanilla-y ones, if that's your jam. It also smells nicer wafting around me than it does when I sniff my arm directly. I could see this working in some hot summer outdoor settings- maybe because it reminds me a little of bug spray. It was a blind-buy for me and I was unimpressed, but it was deep winter- I'll give it another shot as temperatures warm up.

nbailey9

Regular Shalimar is my go-to perfume for fall and winter. It's beautiful, but has a smoky, slightly dirty smell that I love. I was looking for a summer version of Shalimar because it's too heavy to wear in hot, humid weather, so I was excited to find Eau de Shalimar. Sadly, it is terribly disappointing. The initial spritz is all citrus, but it smells like household cleaner. After maybe 20 minutes it settles into that nice Guerlain base of vanilla-y goodness, but about 20 minutes after that, poof! It's gone. Glad it's so cheap on Amazon, because it's not worth an investment. I'll maybe wear it when it's super hot and I'm cleaning, but that would be about it. Anxious for fall, when I can wear my regular Shalimar again. Guerlain is great at winter, heavy scents; I wish they'd perfect light summers in the same way.

jadetrail51

I just returned from a very dry climate in the southern desert region of Utah. Dry hot climates are really a perfume challenge for me as the dryness coupled with the heat either renders a fragrance distorted or it disappears, altogether. Before dinner I spritzed this on quite liberally because I was sunburned, it was hot, and I knew this was quite sheer. The top notes of fresh lime citrus were perfect for the evening heat and waking up to the vanilla/amber cuddle that IS traditional Shalimar was heaven. I initially underestimated this. It is now one of my top shelf favorites. I don't consider this a "flanker", but rather it's own beast (or beauty)!

Bloodlust

This is more similar to the original Shalimar than any of the other flankers! The original does not behave well on my skin, I often can't carry fragrances with quite as much complexity - so I find this a great alternative to a classic! Though I'm sure other "die hard, been there since the beginning" Shalimar fans will poo-poo this into oblivion, (because if you take the essence of Shalimar OUT of Shalimar - what are you left with!?) I'm quite a supporter :D.

The opening is rather strong and dry, with a tangy punch; It's thick powder, a hint of leather and resins, and a juicy lime! As it reaches the heart, some of the powder subsides and it is replaced with an elegant, non-gourmand vanilla. This is where the classic peeks it's head through Eau de Shalimar to visit. It's fleeting, though, because almost immediately after, the drydown is all vanilla, all the time. Shalimar vanilla, but just vanilla nonetheless!

This is a perfect rendition of a "lighter", "fresher" Shalimar. My only complaints or criticisms would be the longevity & sillage. It can stand to be a little louder, and last a lot longer.

I'm hoping to use this as a stepping stone to wearing the 'One and only' Shalimar EDP!

LunaTaylor

I like the original Shalimar except its just a BIT too smoky for me. In fact people ask if I have been smoking sometimes! I love this one the most because its still got the spirit of Shalimar but shes not quite the boozy flapper, shes slightly naughty debutante. I only like lime and orange citrus notes and the pwoderiness is more delicate. I love this scent!

edwardnr17

The harshness of Shalimar has been softened, when applying there's quite a sting, but soon after theheartnotes waft of 'powdery' lime. Hours later all that's left is a little vanilla and lots of cozy powder. A real comfort scent.

Mellyhelly

I tested this one recently after a long time without and was not too impressed. The citrus is tamed and vanilla is weak. It's a pleasant scent, good if you are looking for a very soft version of Shalimar. It is Shalimar indeed. It smells as if they took flowers away and diluted 5 times with water. A nice one, but not if you're looking for a more kicking Shalimar experience.

Pepperflower

I am not a citrus person, but this really had me by surprise. Of course it would be a Shalimar! What else?! I so enjoyed and was delighted by Eau de Shalimar.

First thing I smell is fresh limes and bergamont that refresh the senses and then they start to undergo a change, they turn sweet. They mix with vanilla and its lemon creme pie from there. Its also warm and a bit exotic im guessing from the resin. I get lots of powder puffed in my face here and there and with time its soon a thick fluffy cloud all around me from the iris and I can smell rose but faintly. I dont smell any orange.

overall: Eating citrus and vanilla creme cake somewhere exotic, warm and fancy while enjoying a nice breeze.

RachelGrigg

I don't quite know why but up until now I've been a bit snooty about flankers. Not quite sure why and today that is smashed to bits! I love this. I love shalimar and have worn it on and off since I was a teenager. I'm not generally a fan of girly scents and usually wears guys stuff or unisex, but this is divine. It's creamy lemon posset. It is recognisably shalimar but lighter and with no leather. It's very beautiful and all day I've been surrounded by a delicious waft. I shall never be sniffy about flankers again. Love it.

Vanessa Dunlap

My mother just sent me a surprise package with some goodies and she included a bottle of Eau de Shalimar! Out of the blue! There are other Guerlains that I have been focusing on lately and this was such a wonderful surprise. I just want to take a bath in this! I know it is not the same thing as Shalimar (believe me, if I could wear Shalimar, I would) but I am thrilled with this. Nobody knows you like your mother, eh? :) She always does this to me, lol! We butt heads on all sorts of things, and then she swoops in with "I think you will like this" and she is absolutely right! This is enchanting; the burst of sparkling citrus (my nose says "lemon")and then the most delicious vanilla with a touch of powder (which I am guessing is the iris). I don't care if Luca Turin dislikes this one or not! I LOVE this!!! Seriously, it is all I can do to stop from drenching myself with the entire bottle. YUMMMMMMMMM!!! Thanks, Mom!!!

ohrite

So sorry to say this was not for me. I get no vanilla or citrus at all, only a huge dose of powder and something lipsticky. The lipsticksmell is actually quite pleasant sometimes but clearly not what I was hoping for. The sillage and longevity are amazing though!

Schnuppernase

Smoky, lemony, mysterious and creamy powdery vanilla. Lasts almost as long as the Shalimar EdP...

I bought this so many times and I find the new bottle more beautiful than the old one. Still, the juice is the same - fantastic, oriental blend with that extra crisp shot of lime that makes it more interesting and sparkly compared to the original Shalimar. I am happy that it still does not lack the smokiness of it.

I always come back to it, even bought the big bottle, so I consider this is one of my all-time favorite perfumes. :)

Silkpuppet

As a youth, I caught a whiff of this in a Sephora catalog. I recognized that this was a divine scent but I lacked the funds and the volition to procure it. Now I seek out this gorgeous perfume, hoping to snag a bottle of powdery lime perfection. Eau de Shalimar is amazing in that it blends the sophistication of the original with a kiss of citrus for a sparkling, feminine masterpiece. I adore the zestiness of lime but I find that a lot of scents based around that fruit tend to err on the side of lime candy. This perfume has just the right dose of it and keeps it soft and flirty with vanilla and resin. Classic Shalimar is a little too heavy on my skin so this is a godsend.

MoreScentsThanSense

I like Eau de Shalimar because it's the modern day grandchild of such a notorious classic and proud of that. Doesn't care or pretend to be fashionanle but doesn't feel out of place either.

At first I wasn't a fan of the lime explosion in the opening but even so I couldn't help but admiring how (photo)realistic it smells. Feels almost like an old school citrus cologne but you can already tell there is a powdery undertone. At this point it's bright, zesty, almost moist and reminded my friend of opening her grandmother's drawers. Aha.

The top notes endure unusually long but soften gradually and the drydown is all about soft resinous, powdery, cool, semi-sweet vanilla.

Now I have to buy a white lace sundress to match the scent.

zzMaja

A lighter, gentler version of the classic, sultry Shalimar Eau de Parfum. A great sophisticated, and yet, sensuous scent that can be worn any time of day or in the evening for that matter. Also suitable for any time of the year.

Adiro

Ha, this is the old criminal under a new identity. and with a facelift, yes!
Whereas the old Shalimar is fine old cognac, this one is a sparkling lemonade with a shot of old cognac . It starts fresh and sweet with a big dose of lemon lime, but the old Shalimar base is there from the begining til end, a bit refreshed, a bit less leathery and animalic, but there and easy to identify. It is a perfect representation of a flanker, the original fragrance with a twist!
That being said, I love it! It is very easy to wear, and easy to love! It lasts well and projects great, and it smells just like a Guerlain should: complex, elegant, classy and a bit old style.

WhiteFlowerGirl

Wonderful.

Shalimar with a big dash of lemon.

Lovely from start to finish and I found it lasted a good 5+ hours.

Can imagine wearing year round, with emphasis on spring and summer months.

HALEY-SUE

It's funny when I look at the top notes, I don't really pick out any of them. It is a nice fragrance though. I'm partial to jasmine, so that is what projects to me. There are days when I just love this, while it's never been a signature for me.
I love the powdery aspect to it.
Gives it a feminine smell without being too flowery. The citrus up front makes it special.
The vanilla dry down is a little bit of a let down but it is not extremely intense, thank goodness!
I liked the original Shalimar years ago, but find It too 'in-your-face' nowadays. This one keeps some of the scent but makes it more palatable.

moreorlessa

"Eau" is right. This is very watered down for a Shalimar. Nice, but too tame for me.

Update: I completely changed my mind. I'm definitely feeling it now. It's much lighter than the original, but still has that distinct shalimar powdery vanilla, with a very recognizable lemon note to top it. It's very simple in that respect, but that's its beauty: a shalimar you can wear during summer, when you don't need any of those smoky, leathery oriental shenanigans.

Arrogant_Cat

What a beauty Eau de Shalimar is!
For the record, even though I have great respect for it, I firmly dislike the original Shalimar due to it`s heavy dose of civet and vintage-animalic qualities and don`t care much for Shalimar Initial.

I feel like Eau de Shalimar is a whole different story.
As many reviewers have said there`s no trace of civet in this composition. I can`t stand civet in my perfumes so I`m happy with this flanker.

The initial blast of lime is "cologne style" sharp and refreshing, the vanilla is deep, rich and creamy, there is a touch of iris for the soft powdery effect and prominent resins to give it a classic vibe.

It has excellent longevity for an Edt and pleasant sillage. Even though this fragrance is an "Eau" it`s still powerful enough for all seasons, in fact it`s cold winter at the moment and I`m happily wearing my Eau de Shalimar, my scarf and coat smell of beautiful citruses and powdery vanilla. I`m delighted that I have finally found my kind of Shalimar.

Jola 72

Gave it to my 17 years daugther She loves it a lot and it smells amazing on her I am more into heavier oriental scents, maybe I will order Shalimar edc to me Love this scent and want to have one...

xrayer

Thanks again to Miss Mills I was able to sample this beauty. Opens with fresh zingy lime then melts away to gorgeous lemony-vanilla. It lasts all day and while others think there is nothing of the original shalimar I do actually detect the leather note of shalimar albeit faintly. It is truly beautiful, another Guerlain to add to my love list and also to my have list!

christianne1

Lemony goodness....but this is nothing, I mean NOTHING like the original Shalimar. No leather, no civet or any type of animalic notes and no smoke. I honestly can not find a single connection other than the lemon and vanilla and even those are different. So different that it is amazing they share the same name. I happen to love lemon, particularly in the spring and summer...and this is a delightful lemony vanilla concoction. Safe, fresh and clean, the polar opposite of Shalimar. I think this will be great to layer with Shalimar EDP sometimes to soften the leather bite just a tad and sweeten it up just a bit. (EDIT: I sprayed a light mist over Shalimar EDP and they blend perfectly and it is an incredible combo!)

If you are expecting Eau de Shalimar to be similar to Shalimar EDT or something on that order, you will be really disappointed because it truly is entirely different. Eau de Shalimar is its own scent so if you are blind buying please take this into consideration. This is a light, lemony, vanilla fragrance that mainly just shares the Shalimar name and similar bottle shape but that is about it. But it is a nice fragrance nonetheless and it layers superbly with classic Shalimar.

I love my Shalimar parfum extrait, but on some days it's just too much. That is where Eau de Shalimar comes in.
She's such a happy and joyful version of the Grande Dame, with her sunny lemons and smooth vanilla base, a hint of dirty leather to make her interesting.. and don't forget the exquisite Guerlinade!
Very easy to wear, but definitely not average.
Pure love and happiness in a bottle.

Just tested this again today, I have been for some time and I think I will get it finally.
It's such a classic warm vanilla scent. I love the softness of this one. It's elegant and lays on your skin like a blanket of vanilla powder. The iris I believe gives it the powder note and the resin and vanilla ground it and make it so very yummy.
The top notes are citrus, lime I believe, which gives this a fresh young twist. The top notes are gone quickly and you are left with a soft powdery vanilla scent. Nicely done and it smells natural....it smells alot like success by Bond with additional citrus and lime.
,it has that chanel 5 vibe. And that old school , classy smell, loving this one.Gorgeous !!!!

Shalimar Cake (with recipe)
"Let them eat cake" The utterance is attributed to Marie Antoinette upon hearing that the peasants were rioting due to the scarcity of bread. Let's attribute it, equally falsely, to Jean Paul Guerlain. Boil a lb of sultanas for five minutes, strain off water and allow half a pound of chopped butter and three quarter pound of sugar to melt in the hot fruit. Let it cool to tepid. Add 1 tsp each of almond essence, your best Madagascar vanilla essence and lemon essence and a pinch of salt. Breathe in the perfume of Eau de Shalimar. Yes, it's the batter. Add three well beaten large eggs together with three quarter lb of standard flour and a tsp of Baking Powder. Lift your perfume bottle high in the air and spritz it three times( assuming there are no babies present) Bake in two loaf tins or one large extendable one in a moderate oven for 1 and a half hours. When cold serve with Earl Grey tea wheeled into an elegant salon similar to the one I saw Jean Paul interviewed in when the BBC screened their Perfume Series. You and the cake will be as one, better than sex, better than perfume alone

The main thought after receiving and testing this beauty was: is this the end of my looking for a hollly gral!? Is this the end? I don't like Shalimar EDP- too animalic and dusty to me and even suffocating and I love EDT as lemony vanilla beauty.
But this one is even more georgeus: it's got powderness, citrus freshness and vanilla, so beautiful blended together.
Am I the only one who is putting this beauty along to Chanel Eau de Premiere, which I adore, in same category? Does anyone finds similarities too?

Melfrangrance

This smells awful on me, very sweet and musty. My skin is olive colouring and is oily.

rose_selavie

I wouldn`t call it an oriental-vanilla fragrance, it is more a citric scent with hints of vanilla. More precisely, imagine the clasic Shalimar with it`s citrusy fresh opening from bergamote and lemon but withought it`s strong oriental base notes, only keeping the powdery vanilla. Therefore, Eau de Shalimar is a sort of light version for someone who doesn`t need or like at all notes like rasins, incense, leather and civet, that give that particular bold character to the great classic. But still, even if Eau de Shalimar is just a sketch of the legendary Shalimar, it`s still a great, intense and absolutely charming scent. I hope it will remain in production, it is one of my favorite scents for summer.

Update:Well i got the shipment in with the older original bottles of EDS and it looks like in the older bottle the vanilla is a bit stronger and emphasized while in the newer bottle the lime is more emphasized with the vanilla..there is not much of a difference you will be happy with either one..i will test them out to see if one holds on longer than the other..it seems for me personally i like the newer version better because i like the added emphasis of the lime with the vanilla creamy smoothness but if you want less of the lime and more of the vanilla i would say go to the older original bottle...the lime is a bit more zesty and refreshing in the newer bottle..i think i will use up my new bottles of the older versions first and just continue to buy the newer versions..this has become such a staple for me..somebody help is there something better than this? lol i can't get enough of this stuff..the older bottles have a nice cute shape..but i like the look of the newer ones better..as a collector i am very happy with this purchase :) hope this helps some one better decide in picking this fragrance..

ForrealMe2

Yup i keep going back to this scent more and more and realized i may have to buy back up because i love it so much..i haven't been feeling that pull for any of my other fragrances except this one the most so i just ordered me some more of this stuff as a gift for myself cause i love it so much..i love really sweet gourmand scents that are strong and loud and this competes against my la vie est belle which is a really strong and long lasting scent, not for everyone, but really worth the price cause it lasts forever compared to much of what is out there and i mean that..the price is reasonable compared to $200 and up for some other brands i have that don't even last as much sadly to say..But sometimes the comfort of a scent can really out weight the requirements you usually desire in wanting a top scent at a good price...this scent is one of those scents..it is actually refreshing and comforting at the same time and the price is really decent online for a Guerlain..so most who don't like loud gourmand frangrances will generally love this because it is so inviting. It is citrus with vanilla..but its more lime than lemon with a vanilla creme powerdery smoothness..not sharp at all and very well done. The blend is very balanced..I will always have this and i may even collect other versions of this like the 2009 version that doesn't have iris or resin in it that i am curious of trying..even my whole family loves this scent the more i use it..my husband and my daughter compliment me when i wear this and i like that that they can enjoy it too..i just really wished they would make it in 3.4oz's for those who really like it instead of only 2.5 to 3.0oz's..but either way i will gladly buy this..you can wear this in any setting it is very versatile-day and evening, work or home and any season, summer, spring, fall, winter because it is lighter to wear yet the scent is amazing and still strong..i see it more preferable for spring and summer but you can pull this off any other season easily..i don't know if there is anything else like it as i am on the search to find similar scents when i come across them..you will definately get compliments on this one..well worth the purchase..i would encourage anyone who may not be use to the leather in the original Shalimar as i was to try this, you won't regret it.

I just received this, literally two minutes ago, how I looove that Courier van arriving!! First spray - one to each wrist, two to neck. I am going to just write as I smelt it before I looked up the notes to amend what I was indeed smelling!

Torrential blast of fresh lemon, gives way to bergamot and vanilla mingled with warm, noticeable but not overpowering orange. The nicest strength of orange added to a fragrance I smelt in a while, usually I find it a little too sickly in high concentrations (apart from maybe D &G's Sicily, I think it's in there and seriously yummy).

Gentle, and I do mean a gentle aroma of rose and jasmine enter the scene, to the point where I doubted my nose and confused these two flowers with something akin to carnation but a flower which I did not yet know. Powdery but not too much so (not a fan of the power powder). Next comes a headier wave of vanilla, warmed with resin, which I mistook for amber - and iris which I do not yet know enough about to single out and recognise. (But hey, any purple flower will get my vote - immature I know but hell, I love purple).

Reading the notes I realise that was LIME! Not lemon. Booyah! I loves me a lime but wow, how did I not pick that?

I'll wait for the two plus hour drydown to see if it really does remind me strongly of Shalimar but for now, it is the daytime, light, lemony (yes, still not getting lime) vanilla, warmly, lightly floral blend that I am going to wear over and over again. This is work friendly, save Shalimar, the holy grail for evenings, I say. Or COLD wintery days in small doles.

This actually reminds me a little of Bvlgari's Petits et Mamans (plus alcohol), mainly due to its soothing nature. Interestingly, this has some similarilties to Code Luna (lemon and vanilla) but without the slightly sharper white flowers. This is calming on me, I love it. Ah, Guerlain...

Add; Nearly an hour on, I can smell the lime - now! And yes, the base smells like Shalimar without the luscious leather. This will still be an empty bottle sooner than a lot of my others.

Just received this and loving it. My only concern is that it may disappear very quickly on a hot day. Thank goodness I fished a huge bottle off ebay so I won't think twice about touching up! Great tip below about layering with Midnight Poison. I will try this tonight to give Eau de Shalimar a bit more oomph. I was inbetween wearing Shalimar or Eau de Shalimar for this evening event, but I will go with Eau and supplement it with a touch of MP :-)
Update: I have also layered this with Shalimar EDT (a couple of small sprays only of Shalimar).... seems like the possibilities are endless!! Lurrrrrrrrve this stuff!!

marylulu227

I was able to get an unopened bottle of EDC from the late 1950's, early 60's on EBAY. It is absolutely wonderful. I then tried the new Shalimar which was a spray tester at Sephora and what a difference. The new shalimar is lemony and does not last long. The 1950's EDC is warm and earthy and lasts until you wash it off. It stays on your clothes for days. I also have the 1960's EDT spray in the blue and white canister which I find too sharp and strong. The EDC has a softer smell which I prefer. I'm going to start my search for the next bottle.

almondcookie

Being a fan of the original Shalimar, I knew I had to have this one. I was lucky enough to get the 75ml for £23.70 from a TRUSTED SELLER on ebay with 100% positive feedbacks.

Eau de Shalimar is an excellent introduction for anyone who has always wanted to try the original Shalimar but never got around to doing so because, they feared it would be too strong for them. This starts off with light citruses and dries down to a powdery vanilla scent.

As much as I love the original Shalimar, Eau de Shalimar is a excellent option for days I want to wear something lighter. Even though I would recommend it for winter, it also works well in hotter climates where I reside.

ForrealMe2

Simply amazing..Such a fun, happy scent..this smells like a fresh lemon candy..if you ever had lemonheads like that with a slight cream vanilla note in the background...Lemon Meringue Pie! I can actually see myself layering this with Midnight poison because i had this on my left inner elbow and when i used my right hand with midnight poison to bring my left arm to me to smell EDS the combination was wonderful as Midnight poison has already a lemon citrus menthol patchouli smell..try it out for those who have that bottle it is a very interesting combination..citrus vanilla overload and the menthol from MP gives it a twist!..But for this perfume this is like lemon cakes or cookies, this is exactly what i was looking for for the summer but i actually love this so much its going to my tops this year and the bottle is gorgeous..i couldn't handle the leather in regular shalimar but someone suggested this here and so i thought i would try..i am so happy i did.. now if Guerlain did a orange cake perfume that would be mine forever but until then this one is definately a must have its a gourmand lovers dream if your into citrus and vanilla..it reminds me of being outside having cookies, cakes and tea. This is totally a work, day time scent.Bravo Guerlain!

Mooniq

I love Shalimar EdP & EdT - but this one does not go along with my skintype. Eau de Shalimar is a great scent and great for spring/summer but not on me. Timeless - great for both younger and older women.

Lakambini

This was my gateway drug to the world of Guerlain. The first liberal spray I gave myself was over my chest and the front of my shirt. I got lemon at once, not freshly squeezed, but a sweet confectionary lemon. Lemon pie actually. It wasn’t the Shalimar I knew about, but, heck, I thought, it smelled great anyway. Pretty soon (on the bus ride home) a full, rich, and buxom powdery-vanilla cloud began to steal up my cleavage and into the close air around me. Shalimar in da house!

This is a fresher, lighter take on that classic scent, and is wearable in summer or even for work, though I wouldn’t spritz more than once. It lasts a long, long time, too. It seems a sacrilege to mix it with other scents, but I discovered it does layer quite well with certain rose perfumes. And now I’m lemming for the original, plus Samsara and goodness knows what else from this house.

Miss Mego

Eau de Shalimar is the sweet and playful version of Shalimar. I bought this last year for the warmer months and only ended up wearing it a couple of times because it didn't really impress me that much. I decided to pull it back out for the warm spring days we've been having here and I'm so glad I didn't get rid of this one, it smells so much better than it did last year for some reason. It starts out very citrusy with the lime taking center stage and dries down to a wonderful soft powdery musky vanilla. Wearing Vanilla in the warmer weather is sometimes hard for me and it's starts to get cloying but this one could be worn on even the hottest of days. I would consider this a gourmand smelling similar to a fresh baked cookie with lime zest baked in. Still classy because it's Shalimar but a little bit easier to wear.

michelle.p.stpierre

When I first sprayed this on, I thought, "oh my Gawd, I smell like I spilled a marguerita on myself!" Five minutes later it settles slightly but I smell like a lemon tart. I know I'm of French descent, but that doesn't mean I should smell like a French pasterie. With experience, I've learned to wait for the dry-down. Wait for it.....

30 minutes later I'm rewarded with a beautiful vanilla, iris, and hint of rose combination that seemed to last for 12 hours. No kidding! Longevity is superb and sillage is moderate. This is light enough that it won't wear you (instead of the other way around) and announce its arrival five minutes before you get to where you're going unless you have a heavy hand with this. Less is more. Spring and Summer wear definitely OK. Try before buying if you know you amp lemon or lime notes.

antfarm

I think I may need to enter a 12-step program with this one--I just can't get enough of it.

While I love the original Shalimar, it is almost completely leather and amber on my skin.

Eau de Shalimar seems to focus on the other, lighter notes. It is still definitely Shalimar, but the focus here is primarily citrus, incense, and vanilla-wood. My gosh, I love it. It is transparent but present, like a beautiful gauze of smouldering sensuality surrounding you.

If you find that the original Shalimar is a little too NSFW, try wearing this one to the office. It's still super sexy, but in a showing a little shoulder way, as opposed to lying naked on a bear rug.

Annica

First of all I could just smell the citrus, but it was not so sharp, rather like an exclusive and mouthwatering marmalade, a bit like caramelized lemon if it makes sense. After a while the iris and jasmine stepped in, accompanied by a lovely vanilla. It was not until two hours later the rose was noticeable to my nose.Such a lovely drydown! I must reluctantly admit to myself that this fragrance is just as beautiful as Parfum Initial. In my opinion Eau de Shalimar is suitable for all occasions, both everyday and festive. Long-lasting on the skin.
Highly recommended to all vanilla lovers.

Mikprittie

I've finally found you. I am so glad I found my shalimar, now I finally know what everyone is raving about shalimar. If you are not a fan of the original or parfum initial don't let that stop you from trying this or other flankers or else you might miss out. The first initial blast is very fresh lemon/line but it is not sharp it very pleasing and I am already perceiving the promise of a creamy vanilla like a lemon cookie. I also get powdery notes from the iris around 30min after. It was a sunny day and the 6in snow is starting to melt outside but this seems like the perfect scent to say its cold but the promise of coziness is if you wrap your body around the cloud of Eau de shalimar.

addicttoperfume

This was a blind buy and at first when i sprayed it i was sad and disappointed. it smelled overly powdery and old lady like. but i gave it another try on a cold night and i love it soooo much. it made me wana cuddle with myself hehe. its fresh in the initial and dries down to a warm powdery sweetness.

wbp

oh wow!!! it was a blind bye for me and the first smell for me was like...oh my god this is really strong and old lady's, but now it becomes my favorite fragrance. in the dry down is soo creamy and powdery and i love that part. i love to wear it in the winter time.

mizsadako

What about the new bottle? Is the same juice?

molehgirl

I read rave review everywhere for shalimar and wanted so bad to try this and found eau de shalimar for $20 1.7 oz at my local marshalls and just purchased it.I was so excited to try this, the result is very disappointing :( smells very cheap and no lasting power.I even spray this 4 times when I go to sleep and the smells is so annoying.I really didnt get this

DNA Salli

Shalimar is my archetypal fragrance! Eau de Shalimar should be the Shalimar devotee's summer version! Lighter, softer, subtler, yet memorable. Vanilla, yes, but not sticky. Has a vintage feel...You love it or hate it!

vicka16

Well, this summer I was looking for a nice citrus powdery perfume and many people were suggesting to try Eau de Shalimar. The notes also sounded interesting so when I had a chance to buy it at a good price I grabed it.
Oh well, what disapointment! No vanilla, no citrus, just baby powder. About ten minutes after appling I could smell a very faint lime and bergamot, but it didn't last more than few minutes. Both my husband and dauther said I smell like I've put tons of baby powder on me... :((

G00D_Girl

The opening made me think of lime fruit loops... in a good way

perfumebox

Eau de Shalimar to Shalimar, is like a youthful ingénue to a smoldering courtesan.

The biggest difference is probably in the absence of notes that give classic Shalimar its burnt, smoky dirtiness; leather, vetiver, civet, musk and incense. Imagine Shalimar back-lit so it’s cleaner, lighter, and more luminous. If you like the citrus in Shalimar’s opening and the amber-sweet drydown (or just wish there wasn’t quite so much going on), then you should definitely give Eau de Shalimar a try. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't quite last on my dry skin.

Word of warning: Just because it’s lighter than Shalimar does not mean this will ever smell at all like the countless gourmand celebuscents or a sparkling citrus you might find from Fresh. It’s still very much a full-fledged Guerlain oriental, albeit a calorie-free "diet" version.

iam2sexy4uris

If you like to smell like a rotten mop then this fragrance is for you :)

AveParfum

This perfume is an Eau?! I can't believe it. Well I believed it at first, when I smelled all the sharp citrus. It reminded me of taking tequila shots and sucking on a lime; sort of an uncomfortable sensation. It was coupled with an old and musty powder scent. I quickly told myself, "Don't rule it out, just give it time." Good advice from Self. I was already wearing two perfumes on other parts of my arm, but it didn't take long for me notice something really divine floating up to my nose, this creamy, smoky, vanilla scent. I just knew it was the Guerlain.

This is definitely Shalimar stripped-down, but since I can't wear Shalimar (the leather makes me queasy), it's perfect for me. It retains the essence of Shalimar. And I can't believe I'm saying it, but I might honestly like this "Eau" better than Shalimar Initial! It actually seems creamier and smokier to me, more closely related to the original Shalimar than Initial. I've never described an Eau as "delicious," but this one is!

I swear this is no "Eau." Sure it has the tangy citrus on top, but that fades away into a sweet orange that blends beautifully with the richer base notes. Projection is pretty fantastic, as it projected much more than Escada Magnetism and YSL Cinema (the other perfumes I was wearing, which are nice creations in their own right). Well done, Guerlain!

mery09

I have Shalimar,it's a special perfume, but eau de shalimar it's more light and fresh.I really love this one,I have a huge bottle but I will buy a new one when it's gone.

Maggan

Just got my secound bottle of Eau de Shalimar. It seems like this one is staying in the stores, and I am very glad for that, as it is a lovely summer-fragranse on my skin!

I can´t think of a summer without Eau de Shalimar! It is magic on my skin in hot weather! When the autumn(fall) comes, the magic of this juice is gone, and Shalimar Parfum Initial will do it instead.

Original Shalimar is the most beautiful, but it is very difficult to wear, so I stick to these two flankers instead.

ScentOCD

This was my first Guerlain fragrance to try and I didn't care for it. The initial spray - a tangy lime. Nice and fresh. Either I don't care for the fragrance or it bombed with my chemistry once I got to the dry down. It turned into a powdery - almost musty scent with barely detectable vanilla and a ton of resin. I couldn't 'sniff' past that to get any other notes.

Norgirl

Wow this has gone from dislike to love whitinn a year ;)
I bought this last year and totaly disliked it.. yes i did call it a old lady perfume aswell i think ( not shure i wrothe it , but thought it for shure :)) But after trying Shalimar Initial . and loving it. then went on to shalimar edp loving this to .. then i had to retest this one i knew my taste had changed in perfumes . and bamm.. LOVE . i so totaly love this lady like powdery citrus vanilla cloud off a perfume.. Its like when i put this one i am lifted up in spirit.. A big smile on my face , i close my eyes and just enjoy this;). This is so great to put on at any time off the day aswell . bouth to work and for going to bed .
This is a treasure to me i am lucky to own several off the shalimar bottles , and this is one off them i cherish the most.
It is similar to the original Shalimar , but whitout the Leathery feal and adedd Iris , lime and more cooling vanilla .. A brighter summery take yes. but i could easely wear the original shalimar for summer aswell sins i live in Norway . Not that warm here
I love this one and i am so happy i tryed it again to redescover the beauty off it :)
love it.. this is so ME::

Bebette

This is a beautiful, fresh and spicy fragrance. It reminds me of Sour Patch kids but less artifial and more soapy. It is very clean but unfortunately not very unique nor long lasting. Add a little cinnamon and you have Lolita Lempicka L de Lolita. It's comforting, but not as warm as LL and only lasts about 30 minutes on my skin. At first I thought I must be mistaken so I showered and sprayed each wrist with one. It might just be my chemistry, but I prefer LL as it lasts longer even though the juice has gone brown and I don't need both. Sadly I will be returning this. I wanted to love it so much, I thought for sure this could be THE ONE I loved out of the 3 I bought today but I was wrong. I'll wait a few days and give it one more chance just in case, as hormones are a funny thing but I tend to have bad luck with all citrus in general.

krmarich

I found a bottle of Eau de Shalimar at Marshalls this week. It was opened, so I gave a spray. I could not buy this! It is basically a chemical skeleton of the Eau Legere Perfumee dated the year 2000, which was flawless. The notes here are all synthetic-including the jasmine and rose. There is no vetiver at all. (what? isnt that what Guerlain does best?) Instead, it is replaced with an odd resin that I can almost identify as myrrh. Its sort of rubbery.

Of course there is no civet or any other herbs required for it to remotely resemble classic Shalimar. It iris/vanila gives it that powdery familiarity. Initial is more loyal. I can understand why this is no longer on the market. This is substandard and a pitiful flanker.

For the diehard Guerlain fans, seek a vintage original to really experience Shalimar. There is plenty of it still floating aroung on the web.

boruvka44

Sweeter, powdery and probably more wearable than original Shalimar (for beginners:)
Eau has just a hint of the famous (loved/hated) incense-lime combination, its rather lemony, like a cocktail glass rim, vanillin sugar with lime.
Lasting power is standard for EDT. When it's hot and humid (and you sweat) you can smell it all day, even after shower.

Zaleska

A lighter version of the original Shalimar. I like it! But Parfum Initial is more wearable(because of the ones around you, haha)!
Shalimar - and its Eau - is only for well trained noses.

G00D_Girl

the opening reminds me of a cream-sickle with lots of lime, but not gourmand at all.

Citrus freshness with a creamy (slightly powdery) floral iris & jasmin note.

It becomes more soft and powdery as the dries down... but still has a slightly sharp note that floats in the back round.

I like this classic, not a huge fan of the lime opening but its so soft and wonderful when it dries down.

update...I have grown to like the lime opening... its refreshing

woolseywoo

Began very powdery and soft, reminiscent of oil. After about 20 minutes, the fragrance turned into a powdery vanilla scent. The vanilla in this scent is more powdery than sweet, but smells very expensive and rich. This isn't a fragrance for me. However, after smelling it, I can definitely see why it is so popular.

DresdenDoll

This was my latest attempt to love anything with Shalimar in it's name and it did not end as I hoped. However, I did like this one. On first spray you smell the vanilla, but on the skin it becomes a bomb of bergamot and powder. Not unpleasant at all, just so strong. Then it wears and suddenly it's a dreamy powdery vanilla with hints of resin. The dry down I like a lot. I would love this if the opening and the dry down weren't like two different fragrances. Definitely worth a try though, this is Shalimar light for sure.

carinas

While I can't stand original Shalimar, I went out and blind bought Eau de Shalimar, mainly because of the citrus notes. It was not a disappointment.
The opening is the best part, gorgeous lime crushed with a little bit of sugar, I really wish the opening notes would not disappear so fast. Then the vanilla kicks in and it becomes lemon chiffon pie. Thanks to the citrus on the background it's not as depressing or heavy, as l'Heure Bleue (drydown is quite similar on my skin). Overall it was quite successful blind buy, definitely softer, wearable version of Shalimar. It's not sexy kind of sweet, it wouldn't drive your husband grazy, but would make your kids wanna hug you because you smell comforting and sweet.

LaPetite

I think i have found MY shalimar at last !!! Very surprising since i really hate the original one and just dislike Parfum initial .
It seems that they removed the notes that made me find the 2 other ones repulsive . As a result : Eau de Shalimar is warm , but not invasive, sexy but certainly not sluty , just perfectly suited for me !
I'm so amazed to love anything with the word Shalimar on it , but perfumes can always surprise you !

sashapoppy

I found a bottle of this for 34.99 at Marshalls, so you know I was thrilled. It was hidden behind some awful Gayle Hayman perfumes no one will ever buy and I feel a little bit bad that I almost certainly pinched another womans stash, but Shalimar for under 40.00 is not to be passed up. Incidentally, the fragrance is gorgeous; one of the only vanilla based scents I like. Its not something Id wear every day, but its a treasured addition to my collection.

nofixedstars

Eau de Shalimar is pretty much exactly what one might expect from its name and look...a lighter, more "modern" or "fresher"---i.e., less animalic, less dense---variant of the classic Shalimar. No, it's not the same; but then, it's not meant to be. Yes, it is true to the scent profile of the original, in a way that many flanker scents are not. While I infinitely prefer the incredible richness and polish of the original, I also enjoy using Eau de Shalimar as well. It's crisper and yes, lighter, but far from insipid, and on me it wears very true to the original formula, by which I mean that it's recognizably Shalimar...I don't at all get the pronounced lime note listed and reported by others, nor does the vanilla dominate. For people who find some scents too heavy in warm weather (not a problem for me) or who wish they could wear their Shali to the office but feel they need a lighter approach, this could serve very well. Likewise, for those who have tried the classic version and found it too heavy for their preferences or too "old", this could suit them better. Although I'm generally not a fan of companies tinkering with a classic just for novelty or dialing one back to appease a trend for the lighter side of perfume, I've found that all the incarnations of Shalimar have a place, and all are reasonably faithful to the original which is deservedly timeless.

nattonline

I was expecting this to be similar to Shalimar Initial but it wasn't. It's just not sweet. I've got a lot of fresh lime in this version. It's very very fresh at first before it settles down into what Shalimar should be; its dusty leathery burnt vanilla (and still limey fresh). I am not a fan of Shalimar to begin with, but I still want to collect, at least, one. This version or Shalimar Initial. I am not sure yet which I'd rather have.

sophisticated

do you sometimes crave for a certain perfume but you just aren't in the mood for a strong one? that's the case with Eau de Shalimar for me, i adore the original but sometimes i just like to spray a few spritzes without being overwhelmed with this wonderful yet heavy fume... so, i simply go to EDS, it's really toned down but has the basic notes that attracted me to the original so i just love it

mika71

Oh there's that "old fashioned" term again... not terribly descriptive or helpful, given that different people have varying ideas about what is considered "old" or "dated".

I still wear this regularly and love it. mjb28's review is right on... soft, feminine, cozy. A co-worker told me it makes him think of a cashmere blanket.

mademoiselle-c

This is a very lovely toned down version of the regular EDP. It is fresh and a great way to start getting in to being able to appreciate Shalimar in all its glory.

I got into the car after trying it on with my grandmother and she told me I smelt "old". My grandmother told me I smelt like old ladies - go figure.

I think it is a beautiful scent although I find it does not have the lasting power of regular Shalimar.

mjb28

This is delightful feminine scent! It opens on fresh lemony-citrus note and mellows fairly quickly to a comforting and warm "powdery vanilla" mix which I love. It is a very pretty scent that reminds me a bit of lemon vanilla cupcakes. It's a fairly sweet fragrance, but not overpowering. Nicely done! It never fails to please me and make me feel happy.

Although this is light, it lasts most of the day more or less 5 hours on my skin, smooth and cozy, very feminine, and sophisticated. It's nothing like the original Shalimar. This version has a charm of its own. It is more approachable and has a certain whimsy to it while still remaining sexy and mysterious. This is non-offensive and can be worn at any occasion.

This is beautiful! much better than the original. This is definitely worthy of picking up.

Actually loving this. Overly lemony the first couple minutes, but the dry down on my skin is so soft and sorta.... perfect. I still love original Shalimar EDP but this is one I can wear to work.

Update: I think this is going to be a staple for me. So subtle and elegant, with decent longevity. Somehow comforting too. It seems to work well with my skin's chemistry, very natural, nothing the least bit artificial about it... which is always a major plus.

i so wanted to like this perfume
i bought it blind , and this to me is very hard one the Lime note in the opening. strong citrus, i tend to like that , but this is to hard in a way. then it turns into a very powdery smelling perfume. Somebody told me it smelled like Johnsons babypowder , and i totaly agree. and that is not in a good way , its to much on my skin.
this to me is a very classy perfume , a perfume for a strong and independant woman , but sadly just not for me .

(hm.. think i have to retest . sins im tested Shalimar and loved it:))

Even though I HATE original Shalimar, this version is really LOVELY, fresh, warm and femine. Highly recommended. I'm thinking about to purchase second bottle

Okay, second review here. So now it is finally cooler, and finally fall. Time for thick white body cream, and long sleeves. And a different Eau de Shalimar.

I did my normal 3-4 sprays of this scent and was so pleasantly surprised that the citrus lasted a lot longer than it did during the summer. Now, this citrus, and I hate to say it, but it is a soft and sweet lemon frosting citrus. Very pretty. Not, in contrast, the bright and crisp citrus of AG Eau d'Hadrien. I like both, but sometimes I just want a soft floaty lemon scent.

I think the longevity is there because the citrus hangs onto your clothing more than your skin. On my skin is the vanilla base, but on my clothing is a lingering citrus.

The resin adds a nice slightly smoky, slightly mysterious edge. I've never gotten the jasmine/rose heart since I've been wearing this.

It's not your mother's Shalimar, but it's pretty darn good. Recommend.

No no no... why did they create this to replace Shalimar Light???? It's all wrong. Shalimar Eau Légère from 2003 was the best "light" version of Shalimar ever created. The bottle was the same as the original, with Shalimar Eau Légère printed on the front. Then they came up with Shalimar Light from 2004-2007 (slightly light blue tint to the bottle). Both are now discontinued and replaced with this perfume which doesn't even compare to the previous two. It just got worse with each edition. Why did they mess with a great creation? I used to find Shalimar Eau Légère in discount stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx, and now I haven't seen it there in years. It was selling for $20 a bottle, and I'm sure the buyers didn't know what a gem they had. It was amazing... all the notes I love in Shalimar were amplified, but it was not too heavy or powdery. The biggest complaint most people have with Shalimar is it feels "heavy" on their skin. Shalimar Eau Légère only took that away.

I got it through Amazon by mistake. I wanted 'Eau de Shalimar 2009' and they sent me this one! I have to admit that by its first 'sniff' I wasn't amazed at all and I thought it was a waste of money...

I can't say that it was bad but, why the heck did they add resin note in it? There was just something that didn't quite suit with this fragrance and my body chemistry reacted as if it was saying 'wash it off, it's not good for you!'

So, I gave it to my mother as a birthday present and when she used it on her, I thought... 'Oh my gosh, will it suit her?'

Now, 'Eau de Shalimar' has become my mother's favourite fragrance and believe it or not, she's getting more compliments wearing it than I do with my own fragrances!

Amazing what body chemistry can do to you!

As for me, since I had a little sample of the original Shalimar, enjoying it a lot although it has sandalwood note in it, I finally bought 'Shalimar Oiseau de paradis' and happy with my purchase, and so my mother with her gift!

And if I compare 'Eau de Shalimar' with 'Shalimar Eau Legere', I will definitely go with 'Eau Legere', as other fragrantica members mentioned here!

I agree Shalimar Light was the perfect fragrance...it took Shalimar to a new level....I learned something from it even though it is no longer available I can still have it....this is what I do...and it never fails...I layer it with pure lemon body lotion...not any of those sugary foody things....with Bigelow preferably...Walgreen had another perfect lemon but its gone....it must be pure and perfect lemon to support the Shalimar and make it sparkle....you can trust me....the lemon under the Shalimar is like a stick of dynamite....I have never had men or women react so universally to a fragrance...or me...they just drink it in and always ask what it is...moreso than anything I've ever worn....go for it! not the Marc Jacobs lemon there is something bitter and acrid in that...

I got this today at Marshall I guess it's discontinued. It smells so good, great for summer. Smells similar to a fragrance by Fresh called Sugar Blossom. To me it smells like shaving cream, very powdery, soft, feminine. Love it!

This is the second Guerlain i have. The first one is Champs Elysees parfum. Eau de Shalimar is light, watery and fresh citrul plus vanilla base. I discover it by accident when i walk pass by Guerlain counter in Pavilion KL. The saleswomen (she old, about 35++) call me to try perfumes under Guerlain line. The first she sprayed is Shalimar EDP, OMG! It feels like a slap onto my face. Dush!! I was really knocked down by heady and strong notes. Then she sprayed on Shalimar EDT, EDC and few other perfumes under Guerlain. No, not my type.

Then she sprayed Eau de Shalimar. I expect the same heady and strong notes. But I was wrong!! It fresh, kinda acceptable. The seller told me this perfume should be wear under clothes, do not sprayed on clothes. When i asked why, she tell me that that how this perfume will smell nice and not overpowering.

Then she sprayed it on a tester paper and put in a small Guerlain envelopes and she give it to me. It smells good actually, smell very expensive. I put the envelopes in my diary and place it in my beg. The whole beg smell wonderful for a month. And i fall in love with this scent.

Today, i receive this perfume which i bought from eBay. Well, after 2 years, i still love it. I'm very interested in vanilla scent, and maybe that why i love it never stop. If you hated the old version, you should try this one. It worth trying. Remember, it not to be put on your clothes..but on your chest, arm, and your neck...really nice.

This fragrance almost knocked me out! The lime and resin were so dominant on my skin that they overpowered everything else. At first, it was somewhat pleasant and masculine in a smokey pine forest sort of way, but when those notes wouldn't let up, I had to wash it off. Only then was I able to smell the vanilla and iris underneath.

This is a perfect example of the wild card called "personal chemistry". I am also realizing this is the second fragrance with lime that I have had trouble with. Hmmm...

All versions of Shalimar light are absolutely the best perfumes ever.

nyoka

much too light for me,but is a very modern version of fumes.really powdery like sum of the oldies but goodies, just seems to smell like lots of others

lilinah

I recently smelled this. At first i thought, "Ah! Shalimar!" But then it went awry, it smelled weak, sour, unpleasant, too much citrus. This does not compare favorably to the REAL Shalimar.

So i'm holding out for another bottle of the real Shalimar perfume. It costs a big chunk of change, but so much better, richer, fuller, more complex, than the weak sisters Guerlain has made to flank it.

Mals86

This is the scent that "replaced," if you will, the lovely Shalimar Light (also known as Shalimar Eau Legere Parfumee). I have not smelled it on skin, but only on a smelling strip that my friend sent me. I found it dreadful. Shalimar Light was an angelic creature, with its lemon-jasmine-vanilla fluffiness that was never quite foody, but this is Shalimar Light after three bouts with chemotherapy. Sad.

Zocha

OK, the time has come and I will say it loud: My name is Zocha and I'm an addict. I'm a hopeless Guerlain fragrances addict, as soon as I get one I already think where to get the next one.
Terminal disease.

Indeed, Eau de Shalimar 2008 may be considered as the original Shalimar younger sister. The opening has something of the original one citruses but lighter. So does the dry down with its light oriental veil. The touch of vanilla here plays an interesting role, I think. It kind of limits the light oriental impression without adding any sweetness. The vanilla edge was brilliantly captured right before it turns sweet. Fabulous.
As the Shalimar excellency suits on grand nights only, I think, Eau de Shalimar would be for the ordinary days.

jatzzie

I have some very mixed feelings about the original Shalimar, so I decided to give this version a try. What can I say? It was like wearing a mixture of vanilla and lemon.Just wasn't for me...

Suseken

It smells like a vanilla cookie.Nice for friends of vanilla. An oriental scent, great for wearing in summer.

Mellyhelly

A bland lighter version of Shalimar. Nothing special and still musty like the original, not bad, but not impressive

model_wannabe

citrusy...then vanilla-ish... similar to dior addict

Garfield

If you don't like the classic Shalimar (I hate it) but if you do like fresh top notes with vanilla scent, just try out this new one.

I discovered it by accident; it's one of the special perfumes you won't smell everyday everywhere. I really love it
