Sun di Gioia by Giorgio Armani is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Sun di Gioia was launched in 2016. Sun di Gioia was created by Marie Salamagne and Firmenich. Top notes are Freesia and Bergamot; middle notes are Frangipani, Ylang-Ylang and Jasmine Sambac; base notes are Vanilla, Ambroxan, Benzoin and Iris.

Armani presented Acqua di Gioia in 2010 as the fragrance of the sea and placed its aquatic character in the foreground. It is dedicated to a woman who is a ''strong, dignified and free spirit but in perfect harmony with nature''.In the spring of 2016, the collection is joined by two new editions, Air di Gioia and Sun di Gioia, which symbolize the breeze and the summer sun, thus expanding the collection of natural elements of water, air and fire.

Sun di Gioia is a warm, feminine scent that transfers the atmosphere of summer, and the feeling of happiness produced by the first sunlight on the skin. Frangipani flower is warmed by the heart of iris and ambrox, while the base ends with milky shades of vanilla.

The fragrances are available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

It is spring, and I am thinking how I can't wait until the summer to wear this.

CrissyCK

This scent is AMAZING. This is not one of those “sunscreen” perfumes, it is more than that. It smells so summery and soft. I’m an ambergris/ambroxan lover when done right, and this is SO RIGHT. Bad move on Armani’s part to discontinue this one of a kind scent. I’ve since loaded up on as many bottles as I can get my hands on (and my paychecks allow!). It does not smell like sunscreen to me at all, it is far too beautiful to compare it to that. It’s my go to summer perfume. In my opinion it is the best Armani made. The rest to me are so basic and department store smelling, but not this one!

ledavis727

Smells like sunscreen. This, along with Alien Goddess from Mugler were giant flops for me, unfortunately. For me, if I want to smell like sunscreen, I will apply sunscreen. It's not what I want in a perfume.

Lauraura

I really wanted to like this, but there is a heaviness to it which i find nauseating, i also own olympea solar and really like it but find that lacks depth, sun di gioia has too much depth, im searching for something inbetween, i tend to layer the 2 to create the perfect balance.

toosimilar

Sunny scent!
Scent of relaxation, happiness and vacation!
It is subtle, but warm and calming!
Safe and inoffensive :)
I liked it!

Love this one. Beautiful summer fragrance. Sweet vanilla and frangipani. I’ve been enjoying using it but I think I found another frangipani fragrance that I like better in Manceras Wild Candy. Will I will enjoy my bottle but I won’t be repurchasing. I found a bottle for a good price on a gray market website.

Why, WHY did Armani discontinue this? Sun Di Gioia is hands down the best performing of the Di Gioia line I have tested so far. Whereas Air, Acqua and Ocean vanish within the 30 minute mark, Sun Di Gioia lingers like a good suntan, up to five or six hours on skin, and eight on clothes. It's an appealingly and, yes, appropriately sunny, cheerful fragrance. The frangipani and coconut accords are the strongest, giving it a light yet lactonic quality with just a hint of fruit, banana and gentle sweetness. The vanilla is surprisingly understated, though it helps give this fragrance some delicious staying power.

The notes are fabulous. While the frangipani and coconut are the stars, the supporting cast is also great–waxy, cosmetic iris and ylang-ylang, powdery freesia and photorealistic, creamy jasmine. This jasmine accord is especially great because jasmine blooms everywhere in my neighborhood and this perfume smells a lot like it. I can't smell the benzoin, but I assume this is one of the reasons why, alongside the vanilla, that Sun Di Gioia clings to skin and fabric so well in contrast to the others in its line. I'd compare it to some other summer "sunscreen" favorites, like a less heavily white floral Guerlain Terracotta, or a more tropical and floral variant of Arquiste's Vacation.

I'll have to grab a back-up bottle because I think I will reach for this a lot.

EDIT: I know coconut is not listed on the notes here, but I can definitely detect it! I think it's a testament to how well this is blended!

Bionda80

One of those rare perfumes that just simply smells good without smelling perfumey. I think anyone could wear this; I wouldn't place it firmly in any particular category, though I think Sun is an appropriate name choice since it is a warmer scent, though not overpowering at all. I've worn this in all seasons and it performs well in both cold and warm weather. I like wearing it in cooler months to remind me of warmer days and sunshine.

Havisxx

I love this scent. Think of the beach, think of summer, think of white flowers, a little bit of vanilla - this is it.
Unfortunately, this is a very light scent, and it vanishes within an hour on the skin. it sticks to clothes more than it sticks to the skin. On clothes, you can get a good 10 hours.

GUADELUPA

Delicious scent of tropical fruits or tropical cocktail. Frangipani, ylang-ylang, ambroxan - all together give a tropical paradise. The bottle matches the scent perfectly - yellow color like the sand on the beach or like the sand in the desert. Light, summer (though appropriate at any time of the year), feminine fragrance. Longevity and sillage are great, more than twenty four hours on clothes. Of all Gioia I have chosen this one based on the note description. And I like this so much! It is similar to Dolce & Gabbana's Shine. But I don't bother. I have both and love both of them.

chimidoro

I really love the bottle for this.
Albeit bears a striking resemblance to DUNE.
I was torn today, between wearing this or Calvin Klein's REVEAL.
This one won.
But I'd like to recommend that to other fans of this.

♡Romantic Summer Beach Fragrance♡
This is soooooo pretty, I just love it!
Such a perfect summer, hot day fragrance.
My life has pretty much always been around beaches, seas, oceans, and lakes. Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean, and Mediterranean.
They all have their charms, and their scents.
I learned to swim before I learned to walk.
I think that's why I'm so obsessed with beach fragrances. From Christian Dior's Eden Roc, Tom Ford's Soleil, and even the beach ones from Bath and Body Works. Just love beach scents.

However, this. ... This right here is pretty girl in a summer sun dress, feminine in a bottle.
I'm not big on florals per say, but this has such a girly soft perfume floral that blends so perfectly with the rest of the sun lotion vibe.

This is for a date at the beach day, and/or night, where you don't necessarily have to get in the water.
Maybe your date takes you sailing to have champagne and fruits by the golden gate Bridge in the Bay Area, or a private boat ride to a secluded little beach in Panamá, or just shopping and going for Gelato at the Florida Keys, or just eating dates at the beach of the dead sea and enjoy people watching as they float and read the paper laughing.
Its a comforting fragrance.
Reminds me of wrapping up a lovely beach date with my husband. I get whiffs of this perfume as we hug and kiss in the elevator up to our suite.
We're just laughing with my wedge heels on my hand, and a glass of sweet apple crisp Pinot grigio on the other.
It's a fun, pretty and relaxed, romantic sort of beach fragrance.
I wear it in Hot days, mostly 80°F (26.67°C) and up weather. I smell it around me, and it last between 4-6hours.
Hope this helps (◠‿◠✿)

I agree with @BonjourHarper, you need to test this on skin as on paper I could hardly smell it.

This isn’t your typical ‘fruity’ sun scent which is common nowadays which I very much dislike. This is a very gentle, Amber and white florals scent.

Definitely only wear this on a sunny day, with a breeze it’s wonderful! It’s not a bombarding fragrance but when you do get a waft of it it’s so refreshing and you think to yourself ‘oh I really love this’. The main notes in this are bergamot, Amber and jasmine. Fresh and sharp opening opening, drys down to a lovely addictive smooth and warm amber floral. STUNNING. A very different take on a beach scent, sad to see it’s been discontinued, I will use my 30ml bottle sparingly! However, If you are in the UK, the Fragrance Shop online still sells this.

As for projection, it’s a very intimate skin scent, but I appreciate that at times. Longevity is only a few hours on me, but I don’t fault it too much. I’m very happy to have this in my collection, a lovely spin on a summer scent. Pick this up if you can.

I’m interested in now getting Beach Walk if it’s anything similar to this.

BonjourHarper

Smells better on the skin than on a paper strip in my opinion. On skin, the warmth of this scent truly comes out to play. Has similar vibes as Replica's Beach Walk, TF's Soleil Blanc, and some others - but without the sunscreen vibe which I personally hate. This one is soft, pretty, warm, and sweet - but not fruit sweet. This was a blind buy for me, ONLY because this is discontinued and I did not want to pay for a sample when I could get the full bottle at a very discounted price.

That being said, this scent is not for everyone, and as a general note this is not a safe blind buy (although I got quite lucky this time). I like it and it will be an easy reach for the summertime.

UPDATE: Dry down is pretty but it is very, very clear that this is a summer scent. Will reserve this for hot days outdoors, at the beach, on vacation, etc. Not safe for the office, and definitely not a nighttime scent. Not even a "running errands" scent.

s801959

Such a gorgeous fragrance. Unfortunately, it is not strong enough for me...Many people say that if you can smell what you are wearing as fragrances go, it is not "proper", only others should smell them on you...

At the prices that many fragrances cost me, I love to smell what I'm wearing at all times.

Although now discontinued, it is still available on some sites, I wanted to repurchase Armani Sun Di Gioia, but I will not...

I would not say that it is a very weak sillage, but a weak one.

Maybe it would smell stronger under tremendous heat...

I do not like the heat...

CaAlice

Selling a new 100 ml bottle of this with box (sprayed once). I'm in Europe, DM me :)

islandgirlmaranda

This is soOOOOOO sensually pretty! Just got it today! Haven't tested the longevity yet but initially the top and middle notes are nice. This reminds me of Terra Di Gioia, but this does not have the almond notes...this is also more salty and solar...bur sexy and sunny/warm.I actually love it so far. I can see the similarities with this and MM Beachwalk. This is a tad more floral and feminine (Beachwalk is so salty) It's also like V&R Magic Salty Flower, but this is way more soft and less in your face. These are the types of frags that are my favorite!

Update: I ended up giving this away and I totally regret it. Why do I do things like that? I just repurchased a full new bottle. I LOVE THIS. I'll never give it away again! THIS IS GORGEOUS!

Gardinette

Wonderful.

It's much floral, creamier and softer than stated previously.
The iris is coupled with benzoin resin, their duo produces a powdery dynamic counterbalancing the thickness of Vanilla. Warm, yellow and flowery, the Ylang is set back, more languid and oily than fresh. After 30 minutes, there is a slight fizziness (almost zesty) coming to cover, with radiance and delicacy, this white Vanilla. First with a strong and spicy Frangipani & Ylang combo, almost tart, followed by a creamy and heady vanilla. The amber warms everything up. Nothing is sweet or overwhelming, to the point I don't really smell Jasmine or Bergamot and that's almost a shame.

Armani has succeeded in creating a solar and milky fragrance without Coconut, far from stereotypes or caricatures. The smell of an island garden, rather than a beach smell.

I don't see the similarity with "Beach Walk" or "Dolce Shine".
These two perfumes have nothing to do with "Sun Di Gioia" in my opinion.

Projection: Moderate (1 meter)
Longevity: Moderate (5/6 hours)

"Sun Di Gioia" is greatly underrated.

❤️ 9/10 ❤️

melusina1982

It smells exactly like Vichy sun care.

Nannna23

I managed to find a bottle of this tho it's discontinued. This is amazing. It's sweet but dry, without being fruity or tropical at all. It fades into at skin scent, tho it's enormous at first, so it's need a little freshen up, but could definitely go with both summerdays and summer nights. I think it's summer-sexy ;-)

Mc1995

So unfortunate that beautiful fragrances like this are discontinued, yet aquatic fruity crap is continuously released and on the market. This is sadly getting harder to find.. fading into obscurity. If you find a decent deal I say grab it because it’s beautiful, not necessarily groundbreaking but very pretty.

sukibuzi

I received this from my mom who had a discovery pack of the Acqua di Gioias, because this was the only one she didn’t like. But, this was actually the ONLY one I really liked! The others were more fresh, clean, and generally inoffensive scents, but this one is a warm and cozy (yellow floral) made-for-summer scent. I wore this for a month straight travelling in south east Asia before COVID and it never felt ‘too heavy’ for the climate. It’s actually hard to describe now so I will just leave it at playful and elegant at the same time. I hope my travel sized bottle never ends because I now realize that this is discontinued and hard to find.

Ashalia

One of my favorite perfumes is Acqua Di Gioia. I can't find the Terra anywhere, so I decided to buy Sun, since it's the next version that's the hardest to find. It's a beautiful scent! It really does smell like a day at the beach. I have many perfumes, and this is a unique scent. I typically don't like amber-type perfumes, but the amount of floral really mellows the amber into a lovely smell. I have read through the other reviews, and some note coconut as a note. I personally do not smell any coconut...thankfully so, as I am not a coconut fan.

nativelocal

You're at the beach on a hot day with the sun at its highest point in the sky. You've just arrived and set up your beach towel to lay out and soak up the sun, but first you need to apply your sunscreen. You slather yourself down with it then decide to take a quick dip in the ocean. When you emerge from the waves to head back to your towel, you can smell the sunscreen on your warm skin that is now mingling with the salt from the ocean water. That's what this fragrance smells like to me. I'm still incredibly disappointed that Armani decided to discontinue this one when it's the best scent in the entire di Gioia line. For shame, Armani. For shame.

yesterday_borscht

cozy, nice amber with sweet fruits. Smells like perfect commercial-style summer. I don't enjoy this fruit syrup in drydown. Can look nice on somebody, but not me

RachRach

It smells so so good, it’s warm but not heavy warm it’s just the right amount of warm for summer. Super cozy and nice it smells like feminity and fun. I’m in love🥰
I wish it would have more projection tho but it lasts decently. I recommend it.

charmedbella

This is a wonderful "summer in a bottle" scent! If you're looking for a beachy scent that DOES NOT have coconut or tropical fruits, this is for you. This is not a sunscreen fragrance. Opening is a little fresh and quickly moves into the tropical warmth of frangipani and ylang-ylang. I do not get much jasmine from this, but it's probably in the background adding a bit of depth. This is definitely more yellow floral versus Terracotta which is white floral.

The dry down is just warm sunshine. It is happy, like others have described. This makes me want to walk on a beach and smell tropical flowers. I don't know why they discontinued this. It's absolutely stunning.

In the summer, if I want a beachy scent without the coconut, this is what I reach for. If I want coconut, I grab Soleil Blanc or Dolce Garden. I need a back-up of this immediately!

Ferra_Verto

This really feels like the essence of the (summer) Sun in a bottle; 'yellow' frangipani and ylang, balanced with a sweet 'yellow' amber and vanilla. The jasmine lends some freshness, like a gentle breeze in the light of a summer day. Very well done and fittingly clever. Great sillage and long-lasting, comes alive with body heat. Very bummed it's discontinued, I'll have to be quite sparing with my bottle.

MimiiP.

I only got to spend 1 day with this gem because I unfortunately dropped it and it shattered in 10 pieces. It literally smells like sunshine and happiness.

AnnaElli

Unfortunately I was not able to find a place to try this one, nor a sample or decant, so I blind bought it hoping it would be similar to my adored Beach Walk, as some reviewers said. I also like TF Eau de Soleil Blanc, Guerlain's Terracotta and D&G Light Blue Sun quite a lot, so I think, it is safe to say, I am quite a big fan of summer beachy fragrances. But I do not see the similarity with BW (or the others mentioned above) at all. I would not even call it a beach scent. Huge disappointment for me. Generic soft /weak and flat floral smell, it is hard for me to pick any specific notes. There is nothing special about it, I'd even say it's boring.

fanntonyoscar

This is disappointing in the same way that Beach Walk is. I hoped for a pretty, intoxicating beach scent, but the migraine inducing florals overpower everything else.

mirnam

Wonderful warm beachy scent. Incredibly soft and feminine. Mildly has that suntan lotion smell that everyone keeps talking about which I personally adore for the summertime. Beautiful for both day and night.

samantham-123

@Sammargaret1-
Waay down the bottom, a lot of the reveiws say that coconut was listed on Armanis website while this was still on production so you're not wrong in noticing it.
I love it, so sunny and beachy

Sammargaret1

This is Beach Walk but so much better. And it lasts longer. The frangipani and amber make it deeper and more complex. It lasts about 8 hours on my skin and is eternal in my hair and on my clothes. I also find it has coconut which I’m surprised isn’t listed in the notes. A beautiful must have summer scent.

bovogie

I’m down to a whole two spits left of this bottle & I loved every drop. I love beach fragrances; They draw me in like a moth to a flame. Any beach inspired fragrances are good for me. I have/had most of the fragrances listed as similar (e.g. beach walk, shade of sunrise, etc....) & I agree they’re similar but to me Mancera’s Holidays smells almost exactly like it & with better longevity.

katheryne_art

I really liked this perfume at first. I could smell the ylang ylang and coconut, but it's not a very sweet type of perfume. However, the more I wore it, the more I started to dislike it and it became less sweet to my nose. I guess it's because I was trying it in colder weather and it just didn't open as beautiful as in the summer...

Scandipersian

Aaah, the name and the bottle of this fragrance along with its amber color reminds me of another great Armani scent from my childhood: aqua di gio. I never grew up to buy a bottle of that amazing parfume, now I should get hold of one of the last bottles of this one that can be found in Europe. Will be a blind buy of course. Remember vaguely having tried and loving it in a department store a couple of years ago.

heatherrose

I absolutely adored this scent and am soo bummed it's been discontinued. It was my favorite of the Di Gioia line.

style1015

Sun Di Gioia is a warm, sultry floral hug. To me it's actually not as bright as the name would suggest. I like it in the nighttime where the benzoin and more amber-like resinous notes really shine. It can certainly be worn during the day as well, but there's a sexiness to it that leans nighttime to me- perfect for going to an outdoor restaurant for dinner in a tropical locale.

The scent is mainly floral and warm with a hint of saltiness that I love in more tropical fragrances. I really get the ylang ylang, frangipani, benzoin and vanilla. Slightly sweet, with that lovely salty-sweet-floral vibe.

A great tropical fragrance. The scent doesn't have crazy performance or anything, but I can't help but find comfort in it when I put it on.

aulialovegreen

if i were in charge of the Di Gioia line, i would rename it as Light Di Gioia and Light Di Gioia would be called as Sun Di Gioia. Because Sun Di Gioia is bright like that bright and warm of sunshine in the middle of spring. Beautiful honey that leans fruity, mango-like on me. And it's sweet, more of yellow floral than white floral, not too creamy, and what's good is there's no sun-tan lotion vibe here (if you aren't too keen to smell like sun tan lotion).

aldinatic

This is beautiful The bergamot is beautiful in the opening! I get more ylang ylang in the dry down :) it reminds me a bit of pure xs.. only its more feminine and not to playfull as pure xs is :) The dry down is realy soft because of the frangipani ..its like a bed time scent in the dry down. It is sun in a bottle :) really feminine and beautifull :) It has a hint of teracota but only the beautiful notes since..teracota also has the too strong tiare ..

unluckypenny

One of the first perfumes I ever purchased, and the start of my vanilla obsession. I was so pleased to find a summer scent that wasn't a heavy-coconut or salt fragrance.
For my skin, it starts with a warm frangipani and almost-overwhelming vanilla, once it calms it's the resinous benzoin and Jasmine get a chance to shine. I also catch hints of a milk-cream. As it winds down, the bergamot lingers in the rays of sunny vanilla. A beautiful beach-scent.
Unfortunately this trends a bit too young on me, this reminds me of a 20-something on holiday, bright, optimistic, maybe a bit naive but you can't help but appreciate her for what she is. A beach-read, but at this stage I'm looking for a deeper novel. Still a lovely summer memory.

Gemsense

I love it! It does sweeten with your body heat. It's golden sunshine in a bottle ☺️ I could actually see this being an Olympea flanker, I find it a lighter airy version of Olympea legend. Definitely not as sweet, like I said, it takes some skin warming to sweeten up just a little. It's heat and sunshine, so unique and pretty and so different.

Sequin

A blind buy based on the listed notes. This smells what Pure Honey by Kim Kardashian would smell like if it was creamer and less soapy than it is.

Sun Di Gioia is warm HONEY in a bottle! Finally honey with a hint of yellow florals. I am glad I got it since it is already discontinued.

samantham-123

This is the sun in a bottle, the name, the colour of the liquid, the smell of it all. It's sunshine, and it's so good!
I was looking for a summer scent that wasn't your typical coconut, tiare type thing and I found this. I love the smell of frangipani and thought itd be a nice change to typical white florals.
It starts fresh and with a very slight masculine cologne type smell, but that doesnt last. As it warms up on my skin, all those delicious yellow floral notes come out. It's dewy sweet and warm, and makes me envision the sun right in the hottest part of the day.
It's sweetened more through the wear but never gets too much, I like the iris note just peeking through but not going powdery at all.
Vanilla is prominent on my skin, vanilla and yellow florals are the main players. The Ambroxan gives it a tiny bit of tanning oil vibe but it's not dirty or overly musky.

It's quite smooth and rich and I'm glad I took the leap and purchased it blind lol. I sprayed the tiniest little drop of Tom ford orchid soleil over it yesterday and... Omg, it was just a burst of summer florals in the sun, and it softened Orchid soliel and took away that sharpness that it has.
I can't wait for summer to hit as I think this will bloom even 100 x better in the heat

KittyDeBeauvoir

Holy Gaaaaaaawd, oh, this does make me joyous (gio-us?)!

I bought this because so many reviews say this smells so similar to MMM Replica's "Beach Walk" which is easily in my Top 3 Replica scents. However - they are expensive, and I am comparatively poor (I'm especially poor if they charge that price for an EDT).

Lady Luck was on my side the day I bought this - I walked into a discount chemist I have never been in before and saw the 100ml bottle on sale! On sale, people! My poor self rejoiced!

IT'S SO GOOD!

It's *definitely* sweet in the opening, and it carries an undertone of sweetness throughout its life. That's the major difference with "BW" - this is much sweeter.

The strongest notes are frangipani, ambroxan (giving a sweet, salty, almost skin-like scent), vanilla, ylang ylang and - goddammit - SUNSHINE!

Sillage and longevity are both pretty moderate. This is a perfume I want to smell in the sizzling heat at the beach, but also in the early evening while winding down from the day; maybe in my garden. :)

It's the dead of winter here, and I'm just hanging out for summer with this scent.
Summer is coming - and I will be ready.

Sun di Gioia & Beach Walk comparison (posted on beach walk as well):

I just sprayed one on each wrist. Both are very floral based. Sun di Gioia is a bit sweeter, especially at first. The sweetness fades fast into the florals and they smell very similar (can definitely detect the ylang ylang in both).

The dry down is where they differ most. You can definitely detect the vanilla in the sun di Gioia making it sweeter while the musk comes out on the beach walk making it lighter. I really don’t get the cedar in beach walk so don’t let that alter your decision.

Overall, they are extremely similar. There is no need to own both. If you are trying to choose between the two choose sun di Gioia if you prefer the vanilla and the beach walk if you prefer the musk. I prefer the sun di Gioia, especially at the dry down. It also is cheaper.

To comment on sillage & longevity. The Sun di Gioia has slightly heavier sillage due to the sweetness. It is moderate while beach walk is more soft-moderate. When wearing either outside on a hot day (which is when most of us would wear both) the longevity isn’t that great. If you wear SDG to a summer gathering with the AC blasting, it will probably last around 10 hours while Beach Walk would last about 5 until it turned into a skin scent.

s801959

I absolutely love it, but it is discontinued.

It is not on the official North American official Giorgio Armani web site.

Mc1995

So pretty! Wow! Perfect spring/summer fragrance.

maci2222

Tropical beach trip in a bottle. No coconut for once. I think this smells a lot better than Beach Walk. It is much fruitier for one thing.

perfumelovere

I was so psyched when this series came out because I have been in love with the original Acqua Di Gioia. The blend of mint, brown sugar, lemon and jasmine made gave the perfume such intrigue and depth. Plus, it projected well and lasted an entire day. I always received praise when I wore the first iteration. Now, they've reformulated a beautiful perfume into something else and created an entire line of flankers which all smell cheap and artificial to me. The majority of scents that try to do the "aquatic airy" thing smell like that Fabuloso cleaner used in Mexico and in every commercial building in my city. Eternity Air, Calvin Klein Escape, 90's acqua di gio, L'Eau D'Issey all have that piercing clean bathroom thing going for them according to my nose.

I was so hoping Sun, Air and Sky would have the same special quality of their mother scent but they missed the mark for me.

Nataliemarie

Out of ALL the flankers, this is my favorite. Of course the only one that seems to have been ripped from the market. WHAT?? Why is it always the GREAT ones? I have never smelled Beach Walk, but this is gorgeous! If you like Bond 9 Fire Island, this would be it's child. Not as potent & strong, but def the same vibe. That one has been a favorite of mine for years. As of now, Bond isn't making that one. I am NOT a fan of BB Beach, it's too synthetic, not do I like Bronze Goddess. This is NOT that type od beachy scent, thank god! I love it. I think they let the best Gioia go!!

ElisabethS

It has notes in common with other "sunscreen-esque" fragrances, but I find this one less literal than the others (e.g., Beach Walk smells like straight sunscreen to me). It's sweet and salty and really does smell like a day in the sun. I get compliments every time I wear it.

This is an absolute favorite of mine! Because of all the reviews saying H&M's Sunray is soo similar, I bought that too. To mee, that one is way sweeter.

Sun di Gioia reminds me of summer nights where you're outside at a campfire, wearing a cosy sweater.

Boomkin-pie

I got this for my Birthday last year and I would say this is totally not my type of perfume. It doesn't smell bad.

For me it is head ache inducing, very sweet, sour, boozy and ''deep''.

The smell is just way too strong, I can't smell anything floral about it. I can only detect a strong boozy, syrupy fruit blend and something that might be amber? (I don't know what it smells like)

It does last all day but the smell profile never changes or fades away into the other notes. It's a consistent scent.

Also, it smells very close to Lise Watier - Sunset Vent du Sud.

BrittneyN

This is a lush and beautiful scent for summer! Classically beautiful, yet unique. I love it and I'm so glad I grabbed it before it's gone! I hope it has NOT been discontinued as I can see myself wearing this every summer for life!

pjspaceshit

Very thick and creamy floral & vanilla scent. I definitely get the sun tan lotion vibe, but watch out, it can be too much in very hot weather. In my opinion it is pretty unusual scent and its a shame that they are discontinuing it! Grab a bottle while you can, if you want something that you don't smell on every corner.

doriandinu

Armani did a great job! This perfume is very good, smells perfect!

Blue wolf

A shame this is discontinued, it’s one of 2 newer fragrances out of a hundred that I would actually buy. Idk why every fragrance this is compared to contains coconut, as I’m sensitive to it and I don’t detect any here. Maybe it’s because it’s rare to find a tropical scent that doesn’t have coconut, another reason I like S di G.
That being said, this does smell warm and sunny on my skin though it doesn’t last which is typical for me. While it’s does it’s such a lovely tropical floral; well blended, evocative and blooming in hot weather. I find the vanilla and ambroxan elements to be married well within the simple composition. No masterpiece but successful and satisfying. Yummy.

JanaSlimsek

Do you ever feel like you want to just sit on the beach and look at the sunrise? Or sunset? Or just be at the beach in general? Say no more because this fragrance does just that.

I'm glad I got my hands on it before it got discontinued and I'm definitely going to miss it once it's gone. At first I didn't really give this fragrance a chance, but one time it just kind of shook me that it's literally a moment caught in a bottle. It truly smells like sitting on the beach and doing absolutely nothing, just chilling. It opens up very fresh, but in a matter of time you'll be smelling the sweet vanilla which strongly resembles some of the tanning sprays or lotions out there. But this, in my opinion, is not really that bad since it kind of brings the feeling of being on a vacation with it, so I'm honestly cool with that.

It's a 8/10 for me (the longevity is weak on my skin), overall a really interesting, lovely fragrance, you just have to give it a chance!

sarage

This is the warmest member in the Gioia-family.
Warm and sunny oriental that has something in common with Dior Dune, my old signature.
The frangipani note is easy to detect.
I tested Sun di Gioia today and I am still sniffing my wrist and regretting I did not buy it.

ladyjm89

This fragrance was just ok sprayed by on my blouse. I didn’t pick up on anything terribly unique about it.
But once I applied it to my skin it blossomed beautifully into this warmly feminine and beachy scent. When I say beachy, I don’t mean oceanic or aquatic at all. No, this perfume smells like hot, salty sand, a cool vanilla ice cream cone in your hand and fresh frangipani blooming alongside pure happiness. It smells like every fun loving thing you’d do on a hot summers day. I love it! It’s not heavy or smothering, but I find it vivaciously sexy. Pair it with a little sundress or a bikini or a floppy straw hat and you’re good to go!

Scent: 9/10
Silage: 7/10
Longevity: 8/10

jovejove

This is being discontinued. There’s going to be a new addition to the line launching this spring/summer, but Sun won’t be a available anymore. I think it’s because Margiela’s beachwalk is much more balanced of a scent and it’s more liked/competition, it’s no longer going to be produced.

bianca_11106

This is such a beautiful fragrance, really sunny and warm, it stays true to it's name and color.
I love wearing it in colder weather because it gives me a very cozy feeling, it's a very rich, happy, comforting scent ♥️
On my skin, it lasts forever (over 10 hours) and I receive compliments when I wear it!
I love Sun di Gioia and it's my favorite from the entire line♥️

gannapodolska

I have always thought that it's a "meh" smell, as well as air and sky. But after putting Sun on my wrist I loved it! Wearing it from the store for about 3.5 hours. It has a trace of fresh flowers left. Before that it was warm vanilla, milky and yummy like dulce de leche. Before that it was coconut with some suede accords (probably from ambroxan). And all flowers in the very beginning gave me the impression of the freshly cut Tuberouse. I couldn't believe it's not in here! Lots of tuberose , then coconut appeared etc.
ow it's warm New England New Year's Eve. The fragrance suites the weather beautifully. but it really trust all the reviews that it's perfect for the hottest period of the year. Thank you, Giorgio Armani !

avierra93

It's ok. Not super complex. Smells just like beach walk and live colorfully. Victoria's secret very sexy now beach is also very close but the cheapness shows through as with their other scents.wish Sun was a bit more complex. Could be brightened with some citrus or something

HanamiTsukimi

I'm a fan of Acqua di Gioia and all of its coastal Italian sunshine so I was eager to try this. What a disappointment!

First of all, it all but disappeared in an hour. So love it or hate it, you'll be hardpressed to hold on to it. Second, I looked for flowers and all I found was an overwhelming synthetic (I'm not anti-synthetics at all, I just want them to smell like reality). Checking Fragrantica, I see ambroxan is the culprit. I should have known.

There's no sun in this. It's just a warm, heavily sweet juice like the masses of other warm, heavily sweet juices powered by ambroxan out there. There's nothing memorable or evocative about it.

elmccullar

Pretty scent, but it smells like a bath & Body works body mist. Coconut & amber and no longevity.

Tigi

My bottle is from batch 38N401 created in August 2016 per checkfresh.
This sweet, creamy "sunshine in a bottle" is beautiful, I find that the way this community have voted the notes is perfectly congruent with my own experience of this delightful, sunny fragrance.

Packaging/ presentation: lovely; 8/10 easily if not more.
Value = Just right. A fair price for a beautiful, well-performing perfume.
Fragrance = 9/10 this is almost perfect, and fits the bill for me when I need a tropical, sunny mood lifter.
Performance: 6/10 light to moderate, depending on a myriad of variables.

SaraX

This is my favourite scent from the Giorgio Armani di Gioia line by far (even though I like Aqua di Gioia as well, but not so much the others from the line).

This is sweet, but not overly sweet, and warm, but not overly warm. This is so beautifully smooth and milky, and sunny at the same time. This also has a slightly airy character to it, like all scents from the di Gioia line.

To me this is like sun, white florals and soft creamy vanilla in a bottle, with a hint of delicious coconut milk mixed in. Just perfect!

I do see this mainly as a summer fragrance, yet I can use this all year round, since I like this so much.

nicolitaw

Sun is a nice scent, albeit fairly synthetic, uniform and linear-- although not as much so as, say, Armani Si. I don't associate this fragrance at all with the sun or summer or daytime; it's definitely more of a rich colder weather scent, as well as an evening scent. It is sort of cheaper and more simple version of Creed's Vanisia-- a Vanisia Lite, so to speak. It has ambroxan instead of ambergris-- and yes, there IS a difference. There is no better example in illustrating this difference than comparing Sun and Vanisia.

DarlingNikki

I have this and I want to like it, but the combination of frangipani and benzoin leaves me feeling nauseated whenever I smell it. It's like a spicy, powdery sunscreen cream (not lotion, but heavier) and I just can't get passed that frangipani/benzoin mix.

PricklyAndHot

The most noticeable and deep fragrance from the line.

Only I have associations with more tropical countries.

Ylang-ylang, frangipani, amber and vanilla.

It's really sunny and yellow.

I rather like it.

Beth

Since acquiring this perfume, every time I wear it I get stabbing pains in my head. Coincidence? I think not. And it’s such a shame because it smells really good—I heart frangipani!!! But it’s not worth the agony. It’s swap-ready.

LisIrishFleur

A very good daytime summer perfume. Great for weekends shopping outside with the girls, taking kids to the playground, walking in the park, going to a festival or outdoor market. Surprised by the decent longevity.. It's, well, a "Happy" scent Not mind-blowing or toe curling. But, nothing offensive at all. I get a lot of plumeria, which makes me happy and just enough of the others to keep this well balanced and from being a soliflore. The vanilla is just enough to make it a bit creamy but not gourmand. (Thank Goodness). It's pretty straightforward from beginning to end for the most part. I like it. Not enough to repurchase. But, I'll definitely be wearing it regularly until the end of the bottle or end of summer. Which ever comes first. It doesn't smell Expensive, but it doesn't smell cheap. It just smells like, August. LoL.

P.S. FYI: BEES LOVE THIS SCENT!

___lucas

Lovely, sweety and joyful: the perfect scent for any sun lotion.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice summertime fragrance but it smells too cheap.

If you’re into this sunkissed skin and golden waves, vacation at Saint Tropez vibes, I’d suggest you to opt for Terracotta by Guerlain or Alaïa Nude.

Just not for me.

medusa666

I can see how this fragrance tried to copy Dior's Sweet Sun which sadly was discontinued and the bottle reminds me a little of Dior's Dune.. Hey, what's going on here Giorgio??
There is nothing special or distinct in Sun di Gioa. I have smelled similar fragrances with this scent before and in body oils as well.

Bubbles1964

I spent some time sampling Armani's Acqua Di Goia offerings, and after the sharp, tooth-achingly sweet opening I like this one best. Still not so much that I would wear it, but it comes out on top.

For me Sun is too much "sweet" and synthetic in the drydown, it's an overbearing and heavy handed scent. I'm thinking something is unbalanced in the composition.

Soofiya

This is the only member of Armani di gioia family which I own and I believe it's the best one.I've been always looking for a beachy, summer scent, something not too fruity, not salty and not citrusy.I found Guerlain Terracotta which was everything I asked for,but after a while I came across Sun di gioia, another warm, sunny floral scent which is sweeter and has a coconuty undertone which I die for
Coconut isn't listed but I can really smell it here.I can also detect frangipani, jasmine, vanilla, benzoin and ambrox.it's so warm, sweet, creamy and yummy.it's less sweet drydown is softly powdery which is also very lovable.it lasts for +8 hours on my skin which is pretty amazing, sillage is soft to moderate, more than what I expected but still not near the point of getting overwhelming
I love Sun di gioia as much as Terracotta and I'm happy to own this sunny, sweet tropical floral scent blended with coconut milk, rounded by soft, warm, balmy base notes

lizakaya

This is all Frangipani Ambrose and vanilla to me, i get zero iris. I live in SoCal so typically wear sun scents and beach scents at least half the year. This one’s a little less delicate than say Terracotta, or Bronze Goddess. But it’s very sunny...bright and warm.

scentitar

As a guy, I find this a Lovely smooth, slightly sweet beauty, that smells of sun rays and mangosteen.

As a guy this is a perfect flirty fragrance for the cocktail party or summer. A real step up from overly sweat and unremarkable celebrity fragrances and the body mists.

Just a lovely, fruity, light, and pretty joy.

Please wear this with a smile and a sundress and I know that I would swoon.

My guess is that it is a 4 to 6 hour long fragrance with fair projection and sillage.

sugar_sweet

It does remind me of Lacoste Touch of sun but with the cocconut in it. Safe choice if you are going to garden party etc.

november_rain

I got this back in February for my birthday from my sister. It was on my wishlist but I'd never smelled it. I really loved it from the start. Vanilla, frangipani, ambroxan and jasmine are notes I adore. Sadly the ylang-ylang makes it a bit sharp and unpleasant to me now.

However I just adores how it smells on my scarf and jacket the day after I've worn it. I also know I would love it on someone else cause I think my skin amps up the ylang to 1000. My sister said it smells good on me though, I don't know.

I like it best at the end of the day when it's mostly vanilla and ambroxan. It sits pretty close to the skin and longevity isn't amazing either. I think this can work both day and night during the summer.

TattooGypsy

The name says it all...joyful sunny fragrance!!! I just adore it! After sampling, I just had to have a full bottle! It's a bit of everything...a bit sweet, a bit fresh, a bit floral, a bit edible. I'm sure this will be my go to summer fragrance, it makes me feel so happy!!

UPDATE: I have been wearing this a lot...I really love this magnificent perfume..it may not be all complicated and stuff, but it's just gorgeous to my nose and so easy to wear!

auSoleil

Absolutely gorgeous! Quite linear and simple on me but a really beautiful summer fragrance! I seem to love everything with frangipani at the moment, this is really creamy, vanillary, on my skin it feels quite coconutty too! beautiful on a warm day, it's like clean clothes and sun cream, mmm

Eguam

I'm so happy I bought this beauty. I wasn't so sure about it because it's a little pricey and some of the comments here kept mentioning suntan lotion, but I would return over and over to the store to try it on my wrist, and I loved it more and more. When you smell it right from the nozzle it does remind you of suntan lotion: a fresh, tropical, coconut-y scent, but on my skin it's beautiful. It doesn't make me think of summer but of the sun itself, yellow flowers and happiness. I don't know if frangipani is supposed to smell like coconut, or they forgot to list it, but coconut is easily identifiable. It has a green note when it opens that goes away in a couple hours, the frangipani (coconut?), some subtle vanilla, and what I think are yellow flowers. It's just lovely.
Sillage is moderate, and it lasts hours on my skin, days on clothes.

One word: BEACH!

Sunscreen, beach ball, salty water, bleached blonde wavy hair, coral bikini.

Want, need, will buy.

After sniffing my sample of Replica's Beach Walk, I was in love. In love with its soft and relaxed aura - opposite to what's typically mainstream on the market these days: loud, sugary, heavily spiced frags. Beach Walk isn't a friendly frag to my wallet so as soon as I saw fragranticans saying GA Sun di Gioia is similar, I had to investigate.

Low and behold, Sun di Gioia is quite similar!
Comparing side by side...
SdG:
- generally sweeter since the (smooth almost creamy) sweetness is characterized by the coconut, vanilla and frangipani? rather than the ylang-ylang.
- ylang-ylang is quieter
- slightly "perfumey" compared to BW
- no saltiness although the ambroxan is trying to do something
Beach Walk:
- ylang-ylang is more prominent (the note that made me fall in love with BW) which also gives a mellow sweetness characterized by this yellow floral
- has a veery gentle saltiness
- light, realistic coconut note shows through
- is lighter (more of a skin scent), and
- is simply more "realistic" as this frag line suggests.

Overall, SdG lasts considerably longer (moderate), has better sillage (soft-moderate), and is much more affordable! Both have the same "beachy" vibes. I wish BW lasted longer and was more affordable but SdG makes me happy!
I agree with the other reviews about when this can be worn but I love it so much that I'd wear it in any season. It makes me feel cozy, uplifted and hopeful.

This Perfume DOES smell like the sun :)
Last perfume that gave me the same sensation was Lacoste touch of sun
It reminds me of a sun kiss summer time , the beach , sun tan lotion , yellow sand , palm trees & tropic fruit punch .

monicadepaul

Poison Girl EDT.

muahah

Creamy vanilla with yellow-white floral and fresh sunny breeze. This is rather perfumery interpretation of sun, than actual sunny day. It is lovely, cute, cheerful, fluffy, hugable and lovable like fluffy and sunny pomeranian puppy running in flower garden.

Different from majority mainstream vanilla scents - it is not cloying, overly sweet and rotten like (as at least for me most smell like). Somewhat exotic probably due to coconut and frangipani note and bit tea like. This perfume could easy fit for some hand cream, cosmetic face powder or sun lotion line. Almost gourmand like if not for floral notes.

Almost office friendly, just be careful that it's not hot weather. Spring, medium summer or cold winter day perfume. Could fit any age from young teen to very adult lady.

After some hour it starts to smell like something burnt...

It reminds me bit heavier, spicier, powdery and more adult-like Poudree Narciso Rodriguez.

cherelune

I just received my bottle about an hour ago! I've been wanting this since I first sniffed it several months ago, and I finally found a great bargain online. Summer in a bottle! I'll save a proper review for when I actually use this when summer comes around (soon!), but I wanted to comment that I agree with parfumparfan.

I find this to be more of a late summer afternoon scent. When I smell this, I could picture walking on the beach when the afternoon is coming to an end, the smell of sun-baked skin starting to cool off, with perhaps a sultry beach-side night out waiting ahead. Aaah, LOVE!!! ♥

kgloverii

When it's the dead of winter and I start getting the blues, I try to self medicate with fragrance. I'm always on the prowl for that scent that says "Warm weather is on the way!" I'm a fan of Bronze Goddess EDT (not the perfume), but i wish it had a bit more strength to it.

Sun di Gioia has a similar vibe to it, with the whole suntan lotion vibe underneath. but the frangiapani and iris really add a fresh complexity to this fragrance that smells warm and uplifting and expensive. I adore it.

parfumparfan

Yooo, sniff this. I ADORE fruity fragrances, and tend to dislike florals. This delivers with the most beautiful fruit opener (though I know nothing is listed in the notes). It's delicious and perfectly balanced, with enough citrus, tropical and "woodsy"/juicy fruits. I get a nice mix of mandarin, peach, mango, pineapple, and maybe pear. It's perfect but so short lived.

However, the middle/dry down are really interesting. It gets pretty woodsy, kind of soapy, and almost like suntan lotion (but the expensive stuff! We're talking Clarins here, not Coppertone). Then it turns into a nice musk/amber drydown, which persists for the rest.

It has ok sillage and ok lasting power. It's a good summer scent, but more late summer, late afternoon. It might get cloying in heat. I'd say it's more youthful than mature and kind of fun but not too sophisticated/serious.

Edit: I tried this again today on a very balmy, humid day and I'm getting violet, water lily, powder and a really delicate mandarin. It's so lovely but definitely not a summer scent. I'd rather wear this in the spring since I don't think it'll preform well in heat. It is still perfectly lovely though.

Charess

This is a nice, creamy vanilla fragrance. I mostly smell the vanilla and frangipani, along with the ylang-ylang and ambroxan. A nicely balanced fragrance, that shifts from being citrussy/floral to being warm and ambery, both with a lot of vanilla present. On my skin, Sun di Gioia sadly smells a little like metal, so I would not buy a full bottle of this, but I enjoyed my sample!
Sillage and longevity are both moderate.

xoxoMyke

Sun di Gioia smells like the day-after drydown of Thierry Mugler's Womanity. The next day after I overspray my beloved WOMANITY, my clothing smells so beautiful and "beachy" without coconut and suntan accords. It's a "beachy" smell without the shrieking metallic accord or a jammy fruit sauce of the opening and heart of WOMANITY.

Soft, linear, aptly sweet. It's perfect for the summer!

UPDATE:
I get a strong sunscreen smell from this... interesting.

PerfuMEOW

I completely disagree with the votes that say this smells like Beach Walk. Beach Walk is awful, to me, and while this is definitely better, it's not by much.

It reminds me of Monoi by Yves Rocher and all the other tiare/vanilla/floral scents out there... not bad, but nothing special.

comfortablynumb83

I dismissed sun di Gioia as being something simple and figured it would be like so many other scents that I never gave it a try. I got a sample in a swap and had an opportunity to swap for a bottle. I tested the sample and was pleasantly surprised!
Sun di Gioia is a vanilla scent. It's not your tween vanilla though. It has a floral and tropical type vibe to it. It kinda reminds me of sunscreen, but at the same time I feel horrible for comparing it to sunscreen. It's the tropical undertone that I get from it that I believe reminds me of sunscreen. Sun di Gioia is laying on the beach midday in Hawaii and you're very close to a bushel of freshly cut flowers, and the smell of creamy vanilla is just lingering in the air.
Sun di Gioia is quite beautiful. I can't wait until next summer to wear this.

SailorV

Sun di Gioia starts with a sweet, girly-pink smelling accord centered around waxy, cosmetic-like iris. I wouldn't have expected this opening note, but the creamy tropical white and yellow florals that are more typical for such summer fragrances are already lingering in the background. There is also a little dash of lime to freshen things up.
It's dries down to a sweet and kind of milky scent with a heavy dose of warm vanilla and the floral freshness of ylang ylang.

While it's marketed as a summer fragrance, I'm not sure I'd want to use it on a hot day, it could become too cloying. It has those two contrasting aspects of beachy tropical flowers and the lipstick-y sweet iris/vanilla combo that both are lovely, an interesting mix, but also confusing to my nose. Maybe Sun di Gioia would be best on a mild, warm spring day, anticipating summer. Or maybe it just comes across a little too sweet on my skin. Anyways, it's pleasant but there are other perfumes of this category I like more.

kristamb

I really loved this one initially. This perfume reminds me of some of the other suntan scents I have tried over the years...(Avon Instant Vacation, Avon Tahitian Holiday, BBW At the Beach...to name a few...)...it is not offensive and dries down into a warm skin scent. It somewhat reminds me of tanning lotion warmed on the skin, but no certain brand...just a warm, sunny scent for me. This is what I imagined Demeter's Sunshine perfume would smell like...but glad I tried this one as well!

Update: Okay, after wearing this for a few weeks, I can't believe no one else is commenting that Sun di Gioia smells like Elizabeth Arden's SUNFLOWER perfume in its basenotes?? Definitely not initially, but now that I have been wearing it and smelling it on my arm later in the day, it completely reminds me of this. Maybe it's just me :) I would be interested to know if anyone else feels this is possible! I still like this perfume, but it's not a love. I guess I am kinda over it...smells like too many others to be unique enough for me.

supergirl9412

Please forgive me for my shallow review. I have to admit that I’m not very familiar with some of the notes in this composition, but I’ll try to describe what I’ve experienced as best I can.

Upon application, I got a nice, subtle suntan oil fragrance; warm, a bit of coconut, a bit of amber or vanilla. After about 5 minutes, the florals came in to party, and this fragrance got utterly rancid. Powerfully floral, sharp, salty, and – I hate to say it – but one of my first thoughts was “Is that urine?” No light, dreamy, creaminess .. just bad.

I’m currently testing this, but I really don’t want this to sit on my skin any longer. I’m heading to the sink to wash this off ASAP.

kaylerbarbara

Love! I mix a little of it with Olympea sometimes and it smells sooo beachy and yummy..great alone too.
Going to try to always have it on hand for my summer frags

who.am.i.you

I like this one the best of the Acqua di Gioia Flankers. Really reminds me of Alien Essence Absolue, which I own. In fact, the wafts of it made me think I have it on haha. It's definitely a more summer friendly version however, whereas Alien Essence Absolue, in my opinion, is more suitable for winter. I'm not trying to buy any perfumes until I use up a couple. Luckily, it's the end of summer, otherwise it'd be super tempting to purchase. It's a beachy scent that definitely has a sunny vibe. Salty, yet floral and smells like warm air. Ambery, slightly sweet, and light. Very nice!

Tovah

This is SO salty! It smells like old-fashioned Coppertone, perspiration, and sand. If you like Bobbi Brown Beach and Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess you will for sure like this sexy happy fragrance!

meg0825

Sun in a bottle!

I received a bottle of this for my birthday. Oh man, I really like it. It's so warm, sunny, and creamy. The frangipani and ylang ylang notes are absolutely intoxicating. The dry drown is a lovely powdery vanilla. So happy to have this in my collection!

bluepistachio

I went to test the 3 new Acquas and none of them have a wow factor in my opinion. This reminds me of Baby oil. Doesn't really smell like a perfume. More like an oil or lotion. I like the sweetness of it. Has some pleasant notes but that's about it.

lmwimsatt

Meh... I've suntan lotions that smell more interesting than this. Idk why coconut isn't listed, as it's what dominates. Here's my do gioia order of preference: sky, water, air, then sun. Having a sky and an air seems kind of redundant, but they smell completely different

Gemini12

Sun di Gioia is a sweet, tropical beachy perfume, perfect for summer. It's in the same vein as Bobbi Brown Beach, Pure Grace Summer Surf, or Maison Martin Margiela Beach Walk. Not saying they're the same or dupes, but they have the same general vibe.

roarksj

I was recommended this perfume in a Sephora based on my love of beachwalk. Though they do remind me a bit of each other, the more I wear them, the less I think so. To me this is a richer, creamier version of beachwalk. It's my summer go to this year, one sniff and I am swept away from the office to a day on the boardwalk, smelling the beach, the sun, the sun lotions, with some sweet notes drifting in from nearby.

Aspendina

This smells like sun sand and beach air at first spray its very lovely. There is a flower note that comes out to play but I can't pin point which I am smelling and I am not a floral fan so I am not liking the floral note. The projection is weak and it dies down to fast and becomes so lite that I am not sure if its worth spending money on. However the beachy opening so heavenly it makes me want to buy it. Oh what to do? To buy or not to buy?

suzanbennink

I was testing this one today, and I think it's very similar tot Harajuku lovers sunshine cuties Baby G

GalInGlasses

I must confess, I love this. I had been testing it on and off for about a year, and I finally got myself a bottle this summer. I'm so glad I did! It really helps to round out my warm weather fragrances, among all the citruses and squeaky clean scents. I had been holding back at first because I wasn't sure if it was "meaty" enough for my liking. I love me a good white floral, but I like them to be fairly substantial. On first spray, Sun di Gioia smells like it definitely will be. It's a BIG tropical white flower. But then... It slowly grows warmer and more vanillic. The sillage also dies down a fair amount. I've realized that I'm okay with this in the heat, though, and also because I want to be able to wear this in work situations. I can still smell it at the end of the day as a warm, dusty/powdery-ish ambery vanilla with some tropical sunscreen vibes that comes in wafts.

Mirabele

I've been very bad girl and bought this one as well (after buying Acqua di Gioia edt in the same month). I just wanted so much to have this sunny fragrance in a sunny bottle as well. Well i like it but this is different from what i usually go for. have. I usually can not wear these tropical scents, that remind sun tan lotions, i often find them too strong and too floral and too coconuty. The later gets especiallly silly giving the fact that i live in a country where is practically never sunny enough to expose our bodies to sun. Anyway i like this scent, it is sunny and sunshine'y and and suntan'y without being too loud, which i like. It has quite a lot white flowers and i am usually careful with frangipni, so i am not sure how often i will be able to use it. As for now it feels like a nice scent and quite summery. it has vanilla nad powder as well. I can see it wearing in all seasons because it is warm and heavy on vanilla, which may feel comforting in the colder seasons. It may be nice way to remember sunny days then.
I am a bit warry because i smell jasmine quite a lot and the scent is more floral than i usually go for. I will try to keep it, hoping we will have more warm sunny days and see how i like it. Who knows, maybe i will be converted.
Update few weeks later: i do wear this one more than i thought i would. it is soft warm suntan fragrance that is quite subtle, which i like a lot. longevity is very good and sillage is close to skin. the bottle is gorgeous, summery, sunshin'y. this is my happy cheerful summer scent.

scentedrat

On me, this is just a super sweet Gourmand fragrance, not summery or beachy at all. I don't detect any of the citrus notes, so on me it is mostly vanilla sugary. The coconut is definitely of the cupcake variety rather than suntan lotion variety. I have a feeling my nose is not cooperating on this one! It definitely didn't work for me and I had to wash it off after an hour. I only sprayed on a small amount, but it was very very strong to my nose. Makes me wonder if I have a sensitivity to something in it?

perfumeaddiction

I just got this as a blind buy in the mail today. It's a very nice scent. I don't get anything heavy or over powering here. It's a light fragrance. All of the notes mentioned on Fragrantica are noticeable to my nose. I definitely get vanilla and there are soft florals in the background. It smells like something I have smelled before yet I can't put my finger on it. Overall this is a very lovely summer fragrance. If your on the search for something that has a beachy vibe I don't get that from this one. What I do get is something lite, inoffensive and summery. As I am typing this and sniffing my wrist I think I get a very mild pineapple note. A very good blind buy.

Miss_Vanity

I am in search of a summer scent so I tried it today at Sephora. It is indeed very creamy, I like it a lot, but I get a sunscreen vibe from it. I will probably go for a more affordable choice.

Cassie Rae

I don't get a summer vibe at all. Starts out floral but the dry down on me is vanillin and ambroxan. Very warm and cozy. Not bright/fresh/citrus at sll. Don't get me wrong I really like this one. I wear this at work because of its univeral appeal. I like to think that I'm edgier than this fragrance, but I guess I'm not. It's becoming my go to.

Iloveperfume.ir

Sun di Gioia has a bit of a sun-tan lotion vibe. It's not nearly as potent as Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess, but it does still have that creamy, vanillary tan smell.

Testing Air di Gioia and Sun di Gioia side by side, they are quite different. Air di Gioia is a salty floral, whereas Sun di Gioia is a powdery, somewhat creamy vanilla oriental.

On my skin I can detect lots of vanilla, benzoin, powdery iris and bergamot. Without the citrus Sun di Gioia would be better suited to the colder months, however the bergamot thankfully adds enough crispness to make Sun di Gioia the summery fragrance it was intended to be.

Perhaps the only down side to this flanker is its poor projection and longevity. It doesn't have nearly as much lasting power as Air di Gioia which is a little disappointing to say the least.

I must say I have been pleasantly surprised by the Acqua di Gioia flankers that have recently been released. They are incredibly pleasant, and in my opinion greatly improved when compared to the original which was not my personal cup of tea.

Madrona

Ambroxan is a strange, strange thing. I can't seem to make up my mind whether I find it agreeable or can't stand it, it is easily identifiable, but it reads differently depending on what it is paired with.

This composition basically smells like an idealized version of a 60's bronzing lotion advert. Like a middle-class nuclear family of four jetting to Hawaii in 1964 and the daughter wearing a frangipani flower in her hair throughout.

My SO said it smells like clean shoes in a shoe store.

Neckromancer

Wow, compared to Acqua di Gioia, this is a completely different animal. I can't stand Acqua di Gioia, but this is quite nice. It reminds me of Bronze Goddess but with the citrus turned down and without the coconut note that always goes awry on my skin. It's actually very fruity with a solar note. I love solar notes. This would be perfect for summer...or year round for where I live. If you like Bronze Goddess, you'll like this.

wfangjie

Wonderful fragrance, I prefer this over Acqua di Gioia and Air di Gioia. It really does smell so sunny and warm, non-offensive and lingers on your skin even after a shower. Definitely a summer daytime fragrance (as the name itself suggests), feminine but not extremely sweet and very versatile.

snoopyQ

It reminds me of having been putting creamy-textured sunscreen on, and lying in the sun (with full clothing, sunhat, sunglasses), before deciding to go for a refreshing swim in the salty ocean.

After your swim you long for a sweet vanilla flavoured ice cream.
So you decide to go over to the ice cream bar and ask for the largest available ice cream.

....

This is the scent after havng enjoyed a full day on the beach:

It is vanillery, just like the ice cream you enjoyed, salty like the ocean you swam in and creamy like the sunscreen you have used to protect your sensitive skin.

Longevity and sillage are moderate.

Adia31

Gioia Sun isn´t creamy on me, haha! i wish it would on my skin is a very very sweet sugary praliné and so dry i have no chemistry. Maybe on smooth skin it could be better if you like very sweet gourmands this is for you.

MeganFrankie

I wanted a new scent for summer - a cool, delicious, aqueous scent that would emanate a calm elegance throughout what is looking to become a long, hot summer. The classy, understated Missoni Acqua with its melon and citrus is hard to get now for some mysterious reason. A department store in the city promised me Armani's Acqua di Gioia, but alas, it didn't seem special enough and the pepper rendered a kind of harshness to it that disappointed me.

Then I tried Sun di Gioia and fell instantly in love with its aerial sweetness of frangipani and freesia, like sparkling sunshine dancing on water, like the frangipani flowers that fell twirling to the ground in the hot, heavy Northern NSW coast summer nights. I shouldn't love perfume so sweet, but there it was. After some research, I came back and bought it and have been wearing it all day through a searing heat-wave and still love it.

The longevity is quite good. I can still smell its aura into early evening. After the initial high of florals, it mellows into a beautiful luscious ice-creamy scent which is probably the benzoin. My winter favourite, Ambre Gris by Balmain also has benzoin that imparts that same creamy lusciousness, except that it is warmer, more amorous and more of a winter scent.

So how does a sweet, warm, luscious scent not become cloying in hot weather? This does not on me but stays a beautiful delicious fragrance shot through with a kind of sharp, beachy scent that immediately evokes a day at the seaside, of wonderful surprises, of happiness, optimism and long, lazy, carefree days.

Sabretoothkitten

Out of the Gioia line, I like the Air best and this next. Its a very sandy scent if that's possible, a nice clean beach with sun tan lotion, breezes and tropical drinks with the tiny umbrellas. Its a golden hazy comfortable kind of scent with a little baby powder.
I was a very bad girl, I bought the set of three on a whim. I am swearing off buying perfumes in 2017!

Eyviab

So delicious! Reminiscent of sunscreen and and something else but in the most delicious way! It's with white and yellow florals with benzoin and a hint of creamy coconut milk it's delicious not overly decadent at all! Tender and right! Thanks Kenziemichelle for the sample! Again I NEED a fb now! Ahhh yummmm!

perfumes_addict

Although the name "Sun di Gioia" would suggest that the perfume is sunny and made for summer time, I find it suited for winter time as well. I don't know why, but when I smell it, I think of the Christmas holiday :) to me, the most proeminent notes are of frangipani, fresia and ylang ylang. The staying power and the sillage are quite good.

It smells a bit like Just Cavalli from Roberto Cavalli, but not so intense and chemical like Cavalli.

Later edit:

I detect a lot of coconut and pineapple in Sun di Gioia - sort of pina collada smell - but I don't see listed such ingredients. Although it is very cold outside, the tropical smell sends my thoughts directly to a summer day at the beach. Lovely :)

Edemay

I'm getting a very thick sweet/savoury vibe from this.
Ylang is very prominent so it the benzoin, the florals just sit in the background.
Very sweet and creamy but then there's that savoury, like a pie sweet on the inside, thick crust on the outside.

chimidoro

Sticky, gooey caramel topping on creamy vanilla ice cream cum biscuity banoffee pie.

This lingered in my room hours after I'd been there and my friend asked if I'd been wearing Prada Candy. They are certainly similar.
I find Prada Candy rather "refined" and "sophisticated" (with its violet/rose/iris, tangerine hints and benzoin overload) while I find Sun di Gioia quite "playful" and "fun", not to mention stronger, sweeter, and boasting a touch more sillage than Candy.

I do not smell frangipani in this. I was disappointed by this fact at first, but I love this caramel and ice cream, biscuity cheesecake combo so much that I no longer mind.

There is a fresh floral scent lurking beneath, which shows through more as this wears on. I enjoy it, though I can't see it as frangipani; I would say it leans more toward ylang and iris.

My main qualm with this scent is that it only seems to last for around three hours on me.
(EDIT - OK, having given this a fair chance to shine, I found that this can last all day, i.e an average eau de parfum amount of time: I wore it from 12-6 and it was still there, albeit delicately so and with only very little projection. I could still smell it. What surprised me at this point was that I could smell the frangipani! On my skin it is in the base! Ah...! Yes, still smells lovely after six hours.)

I love this scent.

I personally believe this would sit nicely in the collection of those who're fans of Prada Candy, Alien Essence Absolue, and/or Lolita Lempicka's Elle L'aime.

The bottle and ad campaign are strangely similar to the bottle and ad campaign for DUNE by Dior, though they smell absolutely nothing alike, both invoke reminiscence of bygone Summer days.

Estasia

A summery scent that makes you feel on an italian beach, not caribean (no coconut or tiare here) but a taste of apricot and vanilla ice cream brings you to Rimini or Viareggio. It isn't a fresh scent, but warm and gives the impression of the sun on your skin. I think I'll be wearing this even in winter, I m sure it will be great!

bellemoore

I'm 25 and I adore this fragrance, so I don't agree that it "fits an elderly woman" just because it lacks freshness. I actually prefer a lovely warm oriental over a fresh scent any day, and I'm sure I'm not the only young woman that does.

Käfä

Another blind buy, and this time it turned out great!
This perfume is sort of comforting. It's warm, creamy and on me a little powdery in the dry down.
Really nice exotic flowers and the frangipani is beautiful.
Very surprised not to see coconut in the notes though. Definitely smell some creamy coconut in there.

Can't get enough of it!

*_Lilly_*

MMMMMmmmm... this is yummy. I have not worn this (skin chemistry) but this is delicious otherwise. Creamy with a comfortable warm hug it gives you. I almost bought this today ;)
Has so many of my fave notes - vanilla, ylang-ylang, amber, frangipani, ambrox....

Tovah

Someone sprayed a scent strip and I thought I was smelling Bobbie Brown Beach (which I own). I gravitated toward the tester, and tried it for myself. It's more floral than Beach, and it doesn't smell as much like Coppertone, but it's the same type of gloriously carefree, warm, soothe-the-soul kind of fragrance! I cannot fathom anyone disliking this. It's impossible not to smile when you get a whiff of this sunny delight.

olga_adriana

I blind bought this after having read some reviews here and checking out the notes. I like Terracotta and I thought this would be similar, and in a way...it is - in the sense that they are both kind of marketed as summer perfumes, when in fact, they might be more suitable for cooler days.

Look at the notes in the pyramid. If I were to see this, without knowing that the name was "Sun di Gioia" and being told by Fragrantica that it's a summer perfume - I'd think it's really more for the fall/winter. Vanilla? Ambroxan? Benzoin? Iris?
Hmm...

Of course, we all wear whatever we want, whenever we want to, but I don't find this to be a "beachy" fragrance as others have noted. I find it to be a little bit cloying in hot heat and humidity, so just keep that in mind. It is quite sweet and creamy - a nice perfume, definitely pleasing and quite memorable. It didn't blow me away, but I'll wear it - probably on sunny autumn days where the air is a little more crisp.

Postumo

Very nice blend of white flowers, vanille and amber, with a light tropical touch. The drydown is somewhat powdery with benzoin and iris added to the mix.

For me it seems like a summery version of one of the Aliens, Alien Essence Absolue most likely, for its powdery-sweet dry down.

Very nice, maybe not the best option for hot summer days as it's quite sweet and can get cloying. It's not very strong but these notes can get a bit sticky under the hot sun.

Mitsuko

This smells like suntan lotion and a big dollop of vanilla-caramel icecream. Not my thing really but in its own class I think, pretty decent.

genny17

Tried it today, and I am rather unimpressed by it, it is rather light, powdery, and I don't get the beachy vibe it is supposed to have...it smells nice, but it vanishes rather quick, it reminds me of bath and body works, for me, the quality just isn't there!! Drydown is nice but very forgettable, and rather synthetic smelling too.

jana.hullinghorst

This scent is what Terracotta would smell like if it was made by Estee Lauder instead of Guerlain..

It's a really nice beach scent. Soft and sweet and balmy. A good addition to any collection in need of a sweet summer fragrance.

smokvica

I have high hopes for you, Sun di Gioia, don't let me down!
Seriously, I tried every and each summery perfume that I found this year. From EL Bronze Goddess, to Bobi Brown Beach, Versace Crystal Noir and some less familiar skin scents, even body sprays with coconut and tiare or frangipani. None of them is not what I'm looking for - beachy, warm, with strong exotic vibe. Lets hope you are the winner, Sun di Gioia!

elena miss

I looove this perfume...it smells like a very creamy suntan lotion. My husband also loves it on me.

Ditta70

Suntan lotion on steroids. Extremely strong, synthetic, unpleasant and cloying concoction. No...nonononono!

Marissaluvsscents

Very fresh and sunny! Smells GOOOOOD. Wasn't special enough for me, but if I had extra money it would be nice to own for when I want to smell beachy in a clean and light way...

blake.lee

This is very mild, very fresh and very tropical. It's light and closer to Terracotta than Bronze Goddess. It's has the suntan lotion vibe, but in an airy sort of way. It was too meek for me, but would be a lovely summer scent for the right person.

Sassygirl18

Smells a bit like Coopertone suntan lotion. A little too much.

UnearthlyApothecary

Got a sample of this from a girl at the Dilliards perfume counter and just wore it for the first time today. I think this is a great summer scent that is unique and wonderful because it is a not the same old coconut, tropical fruit or aquatic notes. Which means it's perfect for me because aside from coconut the other two are not my thing. I love the vanilla in this scent, I will have to see how it wears throughout the day, but I think this might be my new favorite summer scent :)

elenmart

From the first impression at a perfume shop it smelled identical to the PINK Sun Kissed by Victoria's Secret.

Zetamamman

I just get caramel, very sweet caramel. Too sweet for me.

Rock´n´roll

I think this is a great scent for the summer months, it's very warm, a great skin scent, reminds me of sunwarm skin (with sun lotion) this also reminds me a lot of beach walk by replica, very similar in my opinion. Coconut isn't a note in this but I get coconut whiffs of it... Or maybe it's just the sunlotion vibes... I tried it in store today and got surprised, not at all similar to the other fragrances in the gioia range... But I love it, and bought a bottle... Looking forward to wearing this now when summer is around the corner! And this one is much cheaper the the replica beach walk, glad I didn't spend my money on that one

olga.bondarenko.777

Reminds me Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum Roberto Cavalli for women, but more sweet, more creamy and more gentle and really sunny

ScarlettX

This is very nice, I like it! It smells like summer and sun literally. It's sweet and creamy, I can smell amber, vanilla and frangipani the most. It reminds me of some lotion scent. Sweet, but not too sweet for me.
It also reminds me of crème brûlée.
One of the best new scents out there!

auroramaria

This is lovely but longevity is low so I guess I will go thru my bottle i.n no time

freddinos

Oh how I wanted to love this perfume! I tried it at Heathrow airport and was prepared to buy it there and then. But then I smelled it. Sun di Gioia is nice, but very soft to the point of being forgettable. It has an oily texture and a true tropical floral feel, and I swear I could sense coconut too. Being a coconut kind of girl I was left craving for more, more of the exotic aura, more of the warmth, more of a tropical fluffy cloud to envelop me and transfer me to a hot climate with sunbathing potential (as opposed to grim and rainy London).
I am not giving up on it and will try it again when our true summer arrives in the UK (I remember last year it was a Wednesday) ;)

Marco<3

Profumo stupendo, cremoso, luminoso.
Il frangipani si sposa ottimamente con l'iris quasi accennato, il tutto sublimato dalla vaniglia.

<3

auroramaria

A sales assistant for Douglas stores told me that Air and Sun di Gioia will have matching body products as in body lotion and shower gel

Arlene-Beatrix

I like it, but after a while it's quite faint and also smelling a bit like some nicely scented suntan lotion. I've expected something fresher.

auroramaria

Got my bottle today only a 30ml to begin with.I'm wearing about 5 sprays and it seems to last pretty well.Like I said in my previous review this is rather sweet and has a tropical feel to it from frangipani and a bit powdery from the iris so far I'm liking this a lot will be used a lot during summer.
When I first tried it I thought I loved it but now it is just a solid like, the fragrance is lovely but not too original.

passionata20

23. April 2016

From the moment i have sprayed it onto my wrist i knew that notes are incomplete. There is definetly a smell of bergamot and something smelling like coconut in there! Bit milky and bit bitter frangipani, my nose hasnt tricked me. This fragrance is very nice actually, at first reading the reviews i thought it would be something nauseating and very heavy, but the projection of Sun di Gioia is quite light to meduim, not overwhelming at all. Very pleasant and thanks to additional notes it is better than you can excpect. It actually reminds me of an older less known fragrance: S by Scherrer for women. They are quite the same but Sun di Gioa is much softer and less long lasting.
Good one, i even might get me one. To my nose the best of all the Gioia range.

UPDATE: So i have checked the official web site of GA beauty and the notes are indeed incomplete: there are missing a lot (as of 24.april 2016). Here is official description

Sensual notes reminiscent of sun-warmed skin emerge with a surging top note of bergamot-freesia, a generous floral salicylate heart (notes at once solar and saline)of frangipani-ylang-ylang-Sambac jasmine, and a warm, richly elegant base composed of iris, vanilla, and benzoin. A luminous and sensual fragrance with a luxurious, comfortable “chic Monoï” effect.

auroramaria

I agree with Astar the frangipani is a bit overdone I still love this fragrance but if you are used to regular ADG you will find this a bit too sweet

Astar

This perfume is literally too much. Too sweet, too head-achy, too different from the original. Normally, I like sweet and oriental scents, but this just smells too cheap for my taste. I blame frangipani... Super basic.

PerfumeEmpress

Well, this sounds interesting. I've tried all the variations on the Acqua di Gioia theme and they all left me underwhelmed. I don't know who the nose responsible for this is, but he/she seems to have had the guts to think outside the box of marine/fraiche/aquatic/clean notes that some people think are de rigueur in a summer frag and for that I am grateful. I look forward to trying this scent.

Elisabeth M.

There is a salty note in this fragrance although this is not listed here. Reminds me a lot of Reveal by Calvin Klein.

Odelia

This really reminds me of Jil Sanders Sun Delight, just more coconuty. It's nice, pleasent, warm, slightly beachy, but I am a bit underwhelmed. Maybe cause I had kinda high expectations...Anyways, it is very likeable. If you enjoy warm, woody, sweet and rounded notes, it's great. For Versace Crystal Noir lovers. Soft to medium sillage and medium longevity.

auroramaria

TRied this yesteday and can't get it out of my mind!
It's a creamy sweet scent with a tinge of powder snells a bit tropical because of coconut and frangipani and it's utterly beautiful,it's also very warm.Super feminine scent.

Takhaet

Can't wait to try this one. When will it be available in the UK?

Berta15

Very very lovely coconuty, warm smell. The opening was fresh spicy smell but soon it turns into a warm sweet coconut, floral fragrance.
For a hot summer night will be very lovely, exotic perfume.

Valy in the sky

Found it in Mueller yesterday and bought it straight away after testing it! I was conquered by the warm and creamy coconut note (though not listed), looks to me like a warm counterpart to Versace Crystal Noir (speaking about coconut)...longevity and sillage seem to be moderate (turns into a beautiful skin scent) but I'll update after proper testing...meanwhile I'm in love...had to buy it no matter what!

auroramaria

Additional notes include freesia bergamot jasmine and coconut milk and cannot wait to try this

jovejove

It is a new perfume. Now they're venturing into other elements with a similar inspirational backing. I hope they do more like this than extensions of Acqua Di Goia. There's no need for another essenza, EDT, eau fraiche, etc. I'd rather see this.

lulu169

I love frangipani & iris, cant wait to smell them both together!
