L’Ange Noir by Givenchy is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. L’Ange Noir was launched in 2016. Top notes are Almond, Pink Pepper and Bergamot; middle notes are White Iris and Sesame; base notes are Tonka Bean, Ambrette (Musk Mallow) and Amber.

Givenchy presents L’Ange Noir, the new “black angel” fragrance that follows the line of Ange ou Demon from 2006 and Ange Ou Demon Le Secret from 2009. L’Ange Noir comes out in fall 2016, representing irresistible mystery and the ultimate paradox: “Radiant as an angel, elusive as the darkness.” L’Ange Noir, inspired by the style of crime cinema that is film noir, is the seductive potion of a femme fatale, described as elegant, unique, audacious and desirable.

“Each woman is an enigma, playing with her power of seduction. The evidence? … her fragrance. Between shadow and light, a unique trail that fascinates by the contrasting encounter of white iris and black sesame encapsulated in a precious glittered bottle… L’Ange Noir, or the spellbinding story of a fragrance with a soul apart. Darkness and light...”

The composition is a powdery floriental combination of light and dark notes. It opens with a blend of bergamot, pink pepper and fresh almond. The mild powdery character of pure white iris, one of the noblest of flowers, is mixed with slightly salty black sesame in the heart. The base finishes up with warm tones of tonka bean, ambrette seeds and amber.

The face of the campaign is French actress and model Aymeline Valade. The shape of the bottle is identical to the Ange ou Demon Le Parfum edition from 2015. It is covered with black sparkled lacquer. The fragrance is available as a 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

Now this is femme fatale
I have been loving this gem. Me and my sister used it when we were in college. People always ask us about it. So feminine, dark feminine, alluring, and sexy. It smells like a new makeup, but it fills the whole room with it, and there is always someone asking who is smelling good .
I’m sure it’s discounted

Yes, this does smell a great deal like Lipstick On. But mostly I get cherry Chapstick, vinyl, and buttered popcorn on a bed of sparkly amber. The saltiness and savoriness of the sesame note is unlike anything I've smelled in a perfume before. I gave up my first bottle of this because the sesame ruined it for me. Now I quite like it, and I'm spraying my little bottle with abandon even though it's discontinued. L'Ange Noir is warm, sweet, powdery, and girly, which I'm now realizing is pretty much my criteria for an easy reach.

It never ceases to amaze me how each new thing you smell has the potential to change your impression of things you are quite sure you already "know" and "remember." If I had been more experienced with iris notes and their oddities, I might have liked L'Ange Noir better the first time around. In this case, experience + a second chance = flaming fondness <3

Elusive as the darkness.” ~

My Thoughts. : I really enjoy this perfume when the weather is a bit on the colder side. I really love the deep dark powdery sweetness of this perfume. It's kind of spicy too and which makes it totally different from other powdery sweet fragrances. It's a really well blended perfume. Some may find it a bit masculine. But to me it's a strong & elegant scent for a grown up woman who knows what she wants.
In summer it may feel s bit cloying because of the nutty sweetness and powdery smell. But for colder weather it's perfect.
L’Ange Noir is a nice option for date nights cause it's sexy, seductive and mysterious.
If you love nutty powdery iris based scents with a spicy touch then give this perfume a try.

In character, it reminds me a bit of Bvlgari Black and the new Byzance Rochas. But with Givenchy-like sensitivity.
Bvlgari Black is more masculine and challenging, in comparison. Byzance Rochas less black and mysterious, rather creamy and spicy.
It is well-done and likeable, but memorable. Exclusive.
A bit of darkness, a bit of and light.
The bottle fits the scent very well. I like it. The name is very good, too.
It does have a smooth, secretive, black angel-like presence.
It is feminine but not overly so, it feels warm.
I am thinking of licorice in milk with sesame seeds.
Iris, a bit austere, a bit creamy. Nearly overpowered by chewy, woody, slightly gourmand aspects.
24 hours and I clearly feel it on me, but it does not annoy.
I feel it better during evening and night, the scent is hiding during daytime close to the skin.
It's winter, but around 10 degrees Celsius. And I nearly love it now. It is of great quality.

I’ve owned this one for a couple years now and used up a couple of bottles. It’s not at all the type of scent I “think” I like but it’s a scent I love. It’s way too soft for my taste, but the nutty iris is so addictive. I owned a few iris scents over the years. This is my favorite one of them all. So much so, I decluttered most of the others. It’s mostly an airy iris with a really interesting nutty thing that took me awhile to recognize, but once I did, I realized it’s what makes this so special. Usually I dislike strong almond notes as they turn to play doh on me. No play doh here, not once. I get more toasted sesame. A subtle sweetness like the toasting of bread. Pure clean flowery iris without any soapy notes, without coming off too makeupy. That’s about it, but that’s enough. You will crave this the way you crave carbs.

I find this scent pairs really well with leather. Going for a drive in a fancy car, wearing a pair of black leather pants with a silk blouse. It’s chic, dark, only slightly sweet, and cooler than everyone else in the room. If perfumes were Spice Girls, this would be Posh. Never smiling. Always looking flawless. Grown ass woman.

It works well in all weather except scorching heat and sun, which burns it off. But it works on summer nights very well. It has a light floweriness that makes it feel pretty in the spring. Perfect in fall. Fancy in winter. It lasts on clothing for a few days. I can still slightly smell myself the next day. But sometimes this one hangs out really close to the skin and can be a bit fleeting. I still love it though.

I wish there were more iris scents like this. I don’t know what I’m going to do once i can’t buy it anymore. This is so much better (and nothing like) the other angel/demon flankers in this line. Definitely shouldn’t have been discontinued.

MissIvy

What a beauty this one. It’s a 50’s vixen in a silk slip and black silk robe with curlers in her hair, sitting at a vanity applying a deep red lipstick.

I blind bought this bottle years ago, took a quick sniff and it was promptly spirited away to some deep dark corner of my bedroom. To a place where my perfumes generally go to die. I didn’t care for it then, and I can’t figure out why on earth not. Because now I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. I didn’t care for iris before I guess, but my nose must have evolved, as now it is a delight!

It’s a woody iris and vanilla scented lipstick with an ever so slight hint of rubber. The later I believe is coming from the sesame seed note. It’s nothing serious like the rubber smell in Bvlgari Black for instance. This is very subdue. Just a whisper and it gives the fragrance some smokiness and depth along with some ambrette. I also get a little unsweetened nuttiness from almond

It’s cold and gothic, while also being sensual. Not beast mode, but it does leave a rather large scent bubble of gorgeousness around you for the first hour or so and then it settles down closer to the skin. While I would say this fragrance is best suited for the fall and winter months, it could certainly be worn all year round. Day or night.

This one has really charmed me. I’m so happy to have rediscovered it amongst its many fallen companions. It has now earned its own spot among the chosen ones.

Lol, of COURSE this is apparently discontinued. I freaking love this scent. Femme Fatale is right—this is a vintage vixen sitting at her vanity in a satin slip. I want to say I think this could be pulled off in the summer, but I could also see it giving me a headache maybe. Still, though, I hope I can track down a full bottle at some point.

DARK IRIS with Almond & Oily Sesame Tahini. Opens with a burst of almond supported by multi-faceted bergamot & accented by pink-pepper, that deepens into the white-iris & sesame heart with powdery, sweet, nutty, aromatic & soft-violet tones. You do get a vintage lipstick-y vibe here amongst the rich & nutty sesame-almond. The sesame here leans to an oily tahini. This all rests on a base of tonka, ambrette & amber. Tonka here is of the of the soft vanilla & tobacco-blossom variety, helping to continue the powdery, vanillic facets, and ambrette helping to continue the seed-like nuttiness and soft florals. Amber here is in the background tying all the other notes together. Alongside all of this I also get a faintly smoky, near-ashy vibe coming perhaps from the spiciness of pink-pepper combining with the near tobacco-blossom of tonka and other powdery facets. Overall I get an iris-almond-sesame scent, and while there is some sweetness this isn't overly sweet. My first impression was that this wasn't sweet enough - almost unsweetened, but as the vanilla has aged I feel the sweetness is just right to be able to appreciate the sesame. This only gets better with time, both in the bottle and on the skin.

Contrast to Lipstick On Maison Martin Margiela:
These are different, but there are striking similarities with the vintage lipstick vibe. Lipstick On is sweeter and much more vanilla forward. L'Ange Noir outperforms.

Overall: dark iris, almond & sesame scent that sweetens slightly over time, with excellent performance. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

leafia

I really really REALLY wanted to love this because I adore powdery lipstick-y scents, and at first I thought I had found a more grown version of lolita by lolita lempicka — but then, suddenly, everything took a turn and the powdery goodness turned into something funky and almost diaper-like. no thank you!!!! it looks like I’ll have to stick with lolita for now…

BlackOrchidSorceress

Striking perfume. Divine. Lipstick heaven. The sesame note adds warmthy coziness but it's definitely a femme fatale scent in my opinion. It's a rare gem!

HeavyBeatsUK

Thankfully I can’t smell any “rotting sesame seeds” 😄

But it strikes me as smelling masculine. It reminds me strikingly of The Body Shop’s 1990’s Mostly Musk oil, which was spicy rather than musky, but still beautiful!

It doesn’t remind me in the slightest bit of “Lipstick On.” I can’t smell any lipstick.

I like it. It was a safe blind buy for me - someone who likes strong, nostalgic scents.

martinezalanezi

I purchased this blindly based on a friend's recommendation (she owns a few backups of this one). I figured that a powdery lipstick scent couldn't go that back- and it didn't! Upon first spray, I do get the peppercorn and a violet (although not listed as a note). Then, after 10 minutes, the sesame and tonka begin to peek out. The iris remains in the backdrop, like a veil of feminine powder. It is powdery, but not overwhelming - just enough to remind one of an old cosmetic bag that draws up memories. I would wear this to bed and on a rainy day out. It's comforting but not tame. It has sex appeal but you're significant other will have to draw close to enjoy your scent. For the lovers of powdery scents without the mature vibe, this is worth getting your hands on, especially since it is now said to be discontinued.

LiliiiS

If Dior Homme Intense and Dior Hypnotic Poison had a baby, their baby would be almost identical to Givenchy L'Ange Noir.I like both mentioned fragrances but I love their combination.
I can smell tones of iris, almond and tonka here and actually I think I can detect sesame too.it's dusty and creamy at the same time. a powder heaven.iris is a tricky note for me and I hate it in a green or a soapy scent but matching it with vanilla or tonka and pairing it with my beloved almond saves it for me here.
it's a sophisticated, classy and cozy scent. sexy in an adult, rich way.

mirrorghost

this starts with one of those carrot seed/earthy irises that smell like paper to me, with almond and hints of pink pepper. then i get that odd sesame note and some musk. amber and tonka comes on later...dries down to a soft cloud of mostly tonka. pretty and cozy to me...not really dark or sultry like others have mentioned. maybe a tiny bit sultry, but to me it's more of a rainy spring day perfume.

Adjr1087

I got this once, sold it. Missed it so bad and bought it again. This time I'm not letting it go, as this has been discontinued and it is getting harder and harder to find each time. I have some Replica Lipstick On samples that I used to compare to this fragrance, and while they do have some similarities, they are not exactly the same. I rather much prefer this one. The sesame seed note is so beautiful and divine in this scent! I do not have any other perfumes with this note, but I am a HUGE lover of "grain" notes, like Rice, Oats, Wheat, Barley, etc. Anything cereal I'm in for it! This perfume is so unique, if I didn't know this was a Givenchy fragrance, I would totally believe this was a Niche frag. I do not have anything else like it in my collection and I think this deserved more attention than what it got.

“Nutty Flour”

this is the ugliest, tackiest bottle I’ve ever had. makes me think of something sold at the Disney store to correspond with a villainous character from a children's movie.

the scent though! the scent is interesting and unique. smells quirky and niche. for me the almond and sesame are the strongest elements. this is a nutty, almond sesame powder. I don’t get much else and I don’t think of lipstick or cosmetics at all. this to me is along the lines of L’Artisan Bois Farine, Serge Lutens Jeux de Peau and Teo Cabanel Je Ne Sais Quoi. It’s a non-sweet gourmand. like a nutty flour. delicious, savory, cozy and unusual.

longevity is good but sillage is very low.

PS this smells good on skin, but is medicinal on clothing.

scent 8/10
longevity 6.5/10
bottle 0/10

silthrill

I agree with Fashionplatefanny's review below - this is slightly medicinal and I can't figure out why. Regardless, I love it. It's like a Hypnotic Poison with a strong iris twist. It's extremely creamy and cozy, but also sexy and seductive. I see this on a sophisticated woman in her 30s or 40s, perfect for cocktail hour. This smells very niche to me - Givenchy as a fragrance house is just on another level. This is yet another brilliant Givenchy fragrance (along with Ange ou Demon, Hot Couture, L'Interdit, etc.)

sharky_shosho

This screams sexxxxy in a very sensual manner. I imagine a beautiful confident woman in an expensive black lingerie, she's sitting there in front of the mirror opening her makeup bag to pick some stuff. This fragrance is the absolute boudoir mood for a true femme fatale ❤️

brandybasisty

The opening is a fresh and creamy cherry-almond that quickly morphs into a sensual, slightly bitter suede-like powder that reminds me ALOT of the OG Donna Karan Cashmere Mist (I'm actually surprised that there's not other folks noticing the comparison). The texture in the drydown reminds me of those those dry oil body sprays, with the sesame and tonka lending a tahini feel to a dry amber. I need to try this again in the fall- one spray in the hot weather was too much for me. I can see why this fragrance has a cult following. Really, Givenchy has a lot of underrated scents.
EDIT: At the 10 hour mark, I'm still getting whiffs of musk and sesame.

Fashionplatefanny

Gorgeous feminine scent. Powdery, slightly medicinal. Not so much like a lipstick scent more like a face powder compact scent. It’s a vintage kind of fragrance to my nose. It’s dark, mysterious, pretty. I love it, I love the bottle too,

DarlingLovely

A lovely, somewhat mild lipstick. In comparison to something like Lipstick On, this is cooler and less sweet. Classy with very good longevity, which is good since the softness of the scent might make you think that it might be a short-lived perfume. A mysterious vixen applying her lipstick, compact in hand.

mimircks

This was a blind buy for me so the unexpected - but welcomed! - level of darkness & sultriness in the iris/almond/sesame combo sent my eyes to the back of my head. L'Ange Noir conjures visions of 1940's screen sirens clad in their always sparkling evening gowns & furs draped & sliding nonchalantly off their shoulders. That said, this fragrance is glamour & sassiness and for women who have their ISH together. L'Ange Noir immediately reminded me of LL MINUIT NOIR, another very deep, dark iris/anise scent that speaks to my SOUL.
ENRAPTURED at first sniff.

roxyjuliet

I purchased this to replace my discontinued love - Replica Lipstick On, due to reports of similarity. Absolutely! They have a lot in common. This is a beautiful makeup scent - sweet, powdery iris and violet. It’s a bit darker than Lipstick On, but wow. Great scent.

𝙵𝚎𝚖𝚖𝚎 𝙵𝚊𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚎, 𝚖𝚊𝚔𝚎-𝚞𝚙 𝚋𝚊𝚐 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚎𝚜𝚊𝚖𝚎

Often talked about here on the forum and compared to the discontinued Lipstick On. They are very similar indeed, but actually I prefer this Dark Angel because of its surprisingly fitting sesame note.

Sesame gives a smooth, almost gourmand toasty nuttiness to the powdery almond, white iris, ambrette and tonka. Waxy, powdery, lush with a teeny tiny hint of salt. Very special. A niche-quality designer.

A femme fatale meets make-up bag perfume with twist. A very original release by Givenchy that was too niche for the mainstream market, and apparently therefore discontinued. If you like powdery scents, and can still get it, go for it! Medium sillage and great longevity on me.

XxRosexX

If you like lipstick on, there's a 99.9% chance you'll like this too. It's a straight up lipstick scent. I think it's better than lipstick on.

Bluebirdpsyche

It took me some time to understand L’Ange Noir, I’d go to wear her, but our personalities would clash…. I’d feel uncomfortable, riled up, disturbed… I kept thinking she was something she wasn’t. I thought, Iris, almond, amber, ambrette, tonka bean….comforting right? No… if I’m looking for the sweet embrace of comforting warm whispers and everything’s gonna be ok type fragrance, and I go looking for this bitch, I’m looking in the wrong place. L’Ange Noir is none of those things…. It’s weird because I never found this to be particularly sexy… but the way I feel when I put her on… I realize this is my “I’m not looking to be saved….” femme fatale fragrance.

She’s cattyeyelashes and shimmery shadows, dark berry koolaid lip plumping glossy, in a Dracula cape, on top of a silk lace slip, and motorcycle boots. She’s burnt rubber and black coffee, and sour dough bread, and a jar of almond butter that’s separated oil, and you gotta mix her up, so she lives upsidedown. She’s candle wax poured on your skin...

She eventually simmers down…. Tho even after she’s left and you were hoping she’d stay, her ghost remains, on your pillow, on your tshirt, the strands of hair she left in your bed, and you still smell her, everywhere, singed into your nostrils, the remnants of her dry down, smokey vanilla almond playdohesque musk powder.

ArrrDee

Really does come across as a lipstick, cosmeticy scent. So think powdery, mildly waxy, and sweet-ish. Usually this would be a no for me, but that sesame seed and iris combo really transforms this fragrance. I spray once on each wrist and the projection is soft and beautiful and I'm impressed.

If you can't stand any kind of powdery fragrances, avoid this one. For me however, it's unique and I'll be adding it to my rotation proudly.

Cherry_Darling

A grainy nutty sesame almond twist on the usual make up bag genre. I really like it! Goes super well with the iris, actually something I could consider wearing. Still has the waxy lipstick budoir quality but in a gourmand nutty fashion. Big like to this one I wasn't expecting to like it.

Tolkashutka

I didn't have enough in the sample vial to properly wear, so I dabbed in onto some tester paper and let it set for a bit. As such, not votes for sillage or longevity, as I didn't get a proper skin wearing.

Sweet and nutty-ish, maybe some vanilla....waxy, fatty lipstick with traces of powder. Further confirming that lipstick scents are simply not my jam.

If you like both gourmands and lipstick scents, this could very well be up your alley, but it isn't mine.

Jacklyn's Perfumery

This fragrance is in the same family as Lolita Lempicka, LPRN like fragrances back in the day. The same airiness with cherry, violets & iris..It's also a bit powdery. You do get a bread like scent from the sesame seeds which actually makes it very unique and enhances the powdery interpretation. It is a darker more interesting fragrance almost leaning more in the Lolita Lempicka's Minuit Noir range with it's dark licorice and spiciness. A very nice iris scent. It does have this lipstick powder make-up vibe, but not as much as Anatole Lebraton's Incarnata which is a full fledge red raspberry lipstick and powder puff make-up mixed with some spice in the base which I love a whole lot more. I do rather enjoy this fragrance allot though and it's always a joy when I use it. I was looking to get a dupe for Lipstick On which this is compared to. But since I have so much of this scent I don't need to get Lipstick On anymore. I am always interested in trying other iris based fragrances.

Rosemary14

I honestly don’t understand why on earth this is compared to Lipstick On by Replica. I bought it for precisely that reason because LO has been discontinued. It’s a very strange fragrance. It’s way more powdery than waxy lipstick. I honestly don’t get a lot of iris although it’s there in a synthetic chalky way. It has a very heavy, oily, greasy, and strange sesame note like a warm roll or bread and a bit of citrus bergamot. Then there is some sweet warm almond and tonka. None of it goes together it’s somehow oily, chalky, synthetic, heavy, very powdery and sort of sickly sweet all at once. It honestly clashes in a way that is bizarre. If my lipstick smelled like this I’d throw it away. It does smell like cosmetics but like bad, cheap, extremely powdery, cosmetics. Looks like I’ll be selling this one right away.

Skinterpreter

Such a beauty. To me, this is a gorgeous, lipsticky cosmetic scent. The opening is kind of bitter with a slight coffee-like hint to it, but it quickly disolves and transforms itself into this beautiful waxy/powdery iris makeup scent...waxy lipstick is what I see when I smell it, the perfume feels so unique. :) It definitely has something dark and elegant to it. The bottle is interesting, too. :) The scent lasted for decent amount of hours on my wrists, with my nose getting whiffs of it here and there.
In comparison to Moulin Rouge by HdP or Lipstick Fever by JhaG, this has no fruity raspberry sweetness to it. I would say it's more similar to Valentina Poudre, yet Valentina is more about compact powder, iris and woodsy notes, while L’Ange Noir is more about dry lipstick with a sweet almondy hint to it. I can smell the sesame note, too, I think it's the slight bitterness in the opening that makes the scent dry in overall.

Vickalicious

This opens up with a slightly dry and earthy iris- it kind of reminds me of the opening of Dior Homme Parfum. The earthiness doesn't last long and the starts to be come more powdery, and there is the feel of soft leather. Licorice is not listed as a note, but I get a bit of it in this fragrance. The dry down is largely powdery iris with some almond, and the faint licorice. This wears very close to the skin on me, and sadly does not project much at all. It lasts about 5 hours on me as a skin scent. I really like this one quite a bit, but I wish the performance was better.

clairesque

This is one of the most masterfully crafted fragrances I have ever tried. It is incredibly well-blended with all notes perfectly complementing each other. It's certainly similar to Dior Homme, but I find Dior Homme a bit masculine-leaning while L'Ange Noir is solidly unisex (smoother than Dior Homme as well). It is a very realistic, waxy lipstick scent that has a unique smokiness from the sesame. I find this one hard to describe - sometimes on my skin it can go musty. Reminds me of vintage lipstick and taking your old winter coat out of the closet for the first cold night of the year. Other times it has a touch of sweetness reminiscent of scented makeup. It is an incredibly sophisticated fragrance - elevated enough for a formal event but demure enough for casual wear in the cooler months.

ceeceelee

I was actually apprehensive after I blind bought this, bc my blinds have been abysmal here recently, but I'm quite pleased. At first spray I get that almond I get in Hypnotic Poison, kind of plastic~y, and Iris. That's it for now and I'd really like it if it stayed this way. But I have a feeling after I put it away for a month or two and let the oxygen I put in there by spraying it do it's magic, I'm going to love it. What a pleasant surprise.

chinna

Someone put today this in my wrist and a paper too and in other paper le parfum ... I must said that I was curious about this because it was on line for a half price. And now I can see why. It's not a bad smell but if want studie the notes I can percieve 3 and said Im not much impressed. Iris, a common orange soda note and on a sweet base. Not even is in there the same projection that I remember . And then le parfum was just the same orange but stronger, including the paper turn to orange .

Abry_81

L'ange noir is a Givenchy fragrance that I have not heard much about, with a very low profile, it goes unnoticed and is really a marvel, many compare it with Dior homme intense, I particularly do not find many similar ones except for the high dose of iris, perhaps in its final stage of the drydown it may be reminiscent of that of Dior.
This marvel from Givenchy that can perfectly be unisex begins with plastic and artificial popping as feminine makeup, do not be scared this only lasts about 10 minutes or less, little by little this fragrance becomes an explosion of toasted almonds and sesame with a background of tonka with its just point of sweetness, from then on it remains quite linear maintaining this addictive gourmand smell.
The weak point is the projection because although it lasts about 6 hours maybe more with the correct climate, it does not project anything, it stays very close to the skin, which is a pity because this fragrance due to its dark and opulent nature should have a pronounced trail. which would make it perfect, apparently it is discontinued because on the official site of Givenchy only the edt version appears, which from its notes I do not think has any resemblance to this one.
This fragrance is unique feet, it does not seem like anything I have smelled before, it is very reminiscent of the Spanish nougat Alicante and Jijona, a mixture of both, a unique oriental gourmand experience that is worthwhile despite its low projection.

fieldsfamily

The main reason I ordered a sample of this is because I found out that my beloved "Replica: Lipstick On" had been discontinued. However, it's a win-win as I like this more than Lipstick On. It's more subtle in some ways, and not as cloying when first applied. The ultimate test: let's see if I get compliments when I venture out wearing it.

estellia

I love this fragrance! It is so delicious and feminine. А lot of people around say it smell like violets and I think so too. There isn't violets in the composition, so I don't know where this note comes from but it's wonderful and I don't mind smelling violets. It is long lasting and I love wearing it in the fall and winter days and nights.

AryanasPerfumes

Its a very powdery sweet dark fragrance, the powderiness doesnt go away, smells like a box of chalk literally, not my thing. If this is what Lipstick on smelled like , I dont regret not sampling it anymore.

fanntonyoscar

There is something I love about this and something I can’t stand. I think I love the iris and despise the ambrette... idk. It has that lovely floral of Prada Candy Night, but it also has a strange old lady smell lurking in the background. I guess the jury is still out on this one.

Armen77

Targeted for woman but in my humble opinion great unsex fragrance. If you love Dior Homme style of fragrances its a must try. Bought a back up bottle

theuntrainednose

I own a small sample.

Very interesting and hard to describe. At first sight, it's a sweet (but not excessively sweet) powdery variation on tonka, iris and almond. Yet, there's more to it. Even though it's not in the listed notes, there's something mysterious that reminds me of resins or frankincense, and something warm and comforting that reminds me of the more rounded wood notes.

Creates a serene feeling, simultaneously grounded in reality and spiritual, which is hard to describe. Sort of being in an older room, steeped in tradition, and simultaneously being receiving a blessing, and being caressed on the scalp.

I would really really like to own it :)

chinna

I remember this perfume like a sweet ,incense , and a type of leathery dark touch... a little masculine, so I I prefer the Acord illicite version.

Jaxie23

*Blind Buy* I don't even know how to describe this unusual scent on my skin. It smells on me NOTHING like the notes listed. Opening is very sharp and spicy yet I get that waxy lipstick scent in there as well. On my it smells spicy and sweet at the same time. It's like a Christmas Tree that leaks sweet sugary sap covered in red 80.s lipstick. It's the only way to describe what I am smelling.

It's very unusual to me in the way that Hypnotic Poison is. HP is unlike anything in my collection (mostly powdery lipstick) I LOVE and HATE this scent.

Gorgeous bottle I look forward to trying this odd creature again in fall and winter.

Another homerun from the house of Givenchy one of my top three fav's !! The almond is delicious, almost edible, with the Pink Pepper adding also a touch of a delectable fruit, oh my goodness what a opening scent!! I would expect nothing less from them.

I sprayed it in the room before I showered and came out and my living room smelled gorgeous which this scent smells on me and makes me feel. It has a very good non obtrusive projection, that is very long lasting over 8 hours in fact it was there in the morning, like a faithful man.

The Iris and Sesame is blended nicely into a lovely floral scent that is intoxicating to me making me what to order a backup bottle. It has a lightly sweet amber dry down. All the notes work so good together making this a beautiful perfume that I absolutely love. The dry down kinda reminds me of Givenchy Irresistible...

Nilodlien

I LOVE this! Givenchy is not my house - I’m a Guerlain girl! Oh sure, I’ve tried a few here and there, but nothing has ever shaken me from my first love.

But this one... Oh man, this one has snuck in and taken hold of my heart and soul in a deeply satisfying way. I’ve always been drawn toward gourmands, but they’ve become too omnipresent- and candified. Some can be so cloyingly heavy. This is a bit sweet, but it’s so well balanced out; must be the sesame. It’s powdery (hello, iris, I see you there), but then the amber and mallow bring it back into sweet. The pink pepper keeps it from going too sweet. Then eventually it’s just a gorgeous vanilla - which must be the tonka. Quite often, tonka can be hit or miss for me. This is tonka, oh my god, yes, please.

This is a stunner.

poppyetpear

Ya know, I'm not gonna write this fragrance off completely just yet. It's unique and interesting for sure. I used it again today and I'm smelling buttery leather lmao
It's like a mood ring on me. I'll try it again in a couple days and see what it does!

ELB78

I’m loving this. I didn’t know what to expect when I blind bought it. It’s soft, sultry, smooth, powdery and long lasting. I still smell it on myself 8 hours later. I did use many sprays. I wish it projected a little bit more but I still love it, and I like that it is not too sweet.

Edit: This has become one of my all time favorites. It’s stunning.

poppyetpear

Smells like someone poured Dr. Pepper in an old tire🤷♀️

adeline057

Love this fragrance, I bought it on a quest to find Maison Margiela's Lipstick On and I'm so glad I found this scent. I can tell how they are similar but they are rightly their own scents and delight the senses in different ways. L'ange Noir is a blast of almonds, iris and powder while MM Lipstick On is a waxier floral and a bit sweet and powdery.

Vanillastorm40

Oh wow, this is so unique!! I LOVE this. It has a almond butter-ish quality to it. I'm going to need a couple back-ups because I never want to run out!!

Florence27

Blind bought L' Ange Noir based on the reviews here, since I love Dior Homme on my husband, hoping I would find its feminine equivalent.

My expectations were met, even though I think I would prefer it to be just a tad sweeter - and that's a first for me, since I generally do not appreciate sweet fragrances. It does lean on the masculine side, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
I mean, what's not to love? Almond, sesame, iris, tonka... It's heavenly.

At the beginning, I get a generous dose of pink pepper and an acidic quality, which apparently comes from bergamot. A few minutes later, the almond comes forward, providing a subtle sweetness. Sesame follows shortly after, creating a creamy combination which is to die for. However, it doesn't feel gourmand to my nose, as the iris, lingering in the background up till now, claims the spotlight along with ambrette, transforming the scent to a leathery, smoky aura. A soft, velvety cloud of tonka serves as a luxurious pillow for all these opulent notes to settle in.

What I enjoy most is that leathery sense it evokes, even though it does not contain this particular note.

At some point it smells like a leather vanity case, the only downside to me, and that is why I can't wait to layer it with vanilla perfumes.

L' Ange Noir is mysterious, seductive and I daresay unique, in terms of female perfumes. Arrogant as it may sound, this is not a perfume for the faint of heart, nor for a damsel in distress. I doubt that it would satisfy people who crave Black Opium, La Vie e Belle, or Good Girl scents (pun intended).
Definitely signature material for assertive, enigmatic women.

PS. Try layering it with L' Interdit Intense. Divine.

StinkyTinky

STUNNING! I own Replica’s Lipstick on, and was drawn to this as a close comparison. MMLO one of my favorites, but a little bit steep to replace. THIS however, great value, longevity, presentation, and the smell......THIS. It smells like an expensive, well loved pressed powder. I imagine (much like when I wear lipstick on) sitting at my vanity, applying finishing touches to my make up, refreshing my perfume.
The colder months make this scent dance in front of you, radiating warmth and comfort.
There’s an infinite presence of iris that stays with you through the wear. As well as an almond that rests in the ambrette in the dry down, gradually getting deeper and introducing a soft suede/leather quality.

unovis

Powdery and greasy at the same time, like an old time luxe lipstick. I love it! A lot of iris and the strange, intoxicating note of toasted almonds, like in the best quality almond butter - I guess that the black sesame combined with almonds gives this impression. There is some warm, creamy tonka. too. You shouldn’t overspray it. It feels divine in moderation. The bottle and name don’t suit it well, in my opinion.

Exenidi

A dupe for Maison Margiela Lipstick On. I am not sure who was the first to come up with the product Givenchy or MM. doesn’t matter - it’s a great fragrance, less gourmand than MM, but very cosmetic.

peonies and musk

COZY! The name is appropriate -- this isn't a sexy fragrance, nor is it one that is bright or uplifting. This is an equally smoky and powdery hot-skin scent. Actually, I was underwhelmed by it initially. Almost makes you wonder if they finished the base note construction and decided "hey, this is some real good stuff on it's own, let's throw in some pink pepper and bergamot just for kicks". What it lacks in brightness and identifiable fragrance notes it makes up for with a well blended mix of unique "ingredients" which all in their own way lend a quality of creaminess and depth to the juice. Iris, almond, sesame, ambrette, and tonka are the main players here, in probably that order. It is only vaguely sweet, and it's predominantly powdery. Smells like blankets, cat fur, warm skin, and absolutely like a makeup bag or like lipstick in a very literal way. Something about the scent gives me nostalgia, maybe triggering memories long forgotten of some of the cosmetic products my mom or grandma used when I was a child. As it dries down, it bears a strong resemblance to Valentina Poudre. It has the same vibe as Bvlgari Notte (women's version) that I can only think to describe as "deep", and there is something in the composition which reminds me of Dream Angels Heavenly by Victoria's Secret before the recent reformulation. I'm really happy I blind bought this, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing so unless you're a tad adventurous and don't mind a perfume which likely will not stand out in either a positive or negative manner. It's one you will wear for yourself.

invaderlark

First impressions: I bought it hoping it would be similar enough to my beloved Dior Homme, but I am wrong. While this does contain iris, the same as the one used in Dior Homme, it's surrounded by sweetness. It is powdery with a thick hazy sweetness from the tonka bean. I'm hoping that the tonka will tone down and I will be able to find the other notes, but as of now it's just the Pure Tonka type note with the powdery iris. If you can pull off any of those Tonka forward fragrances, then you can try this out. For right now, it's too sweet for me right now.

msajoy

MAN!!!! is this a masterpiece or what? if you love iris and then almond, try it out. i had to get it. its marketed towards women but pretty unisex in my opinion, for night time its so seductive. I'M IN LOVE
10/10 for perfection and boldness from the House of Givenchy, pure seduction, sorry ladies... we are taking it ;)

thecoffeeslayer

I love the dry almond + sesame + iris + rosemary (I know it's not listed, but I smell a green cooking herb in there). The almond varies between dry/woody & marizipan sweet. The sesame smells warm, toasted. The rosemary & iris are somehow powdery & a split of green. This brings to mind eating snacks at the botanical garden where my mother was a docent. <3

I learned something new - ambrette+cherry does not smell nice to me. Not one bit. The ambrette + cherry smell musty and sour to me, and they unbalance the fragrance on me. It reminds me of bad breath at some points. I wish those notes hid in the background. I really do like everything else about it.

mapache

Almond/cherry/iris /sesame/ambrette....all "in there".

It is like throwing together parts of Dior Homme Intense Hypnotic Poison,Valentino Uomo....and even of pinch of Guerlain Petite Robe Noir....

This goes very "ambrette" heavy to my nose on me.The iris remains thru-out also.

IMO...this can go into the "strong" category if over-sprayed. I also pick up a "resinous" vibe underneath it all. This scent must develop on the skin,IMHO.
The dry down is pretty awesome. It was a compliament getter when I wore it.
Not really a "talked about" scent, and I feel it is under the radar. Projection/sillage on me is above average.

joliecat

Completely unisex, L'Ange Noir is a dry iris mixture that's , less sweet than Dior Homme. The mix of bitter almond and sesame gives it a unique herbal tone. This is not at all a typical sweet powdery lipstick feminine scent. It's dry, not sweet powder, dark, herbal, masculine, warm, inviting, and sensual. Almond and sesame project intensely and consistently.
All alone, L'Ange Noir is too masculine for me. As a female, in order for me to enjoy wearing it, I add a spray on top of L'Erbolario Iris, which is a very sweet powdery smooth iris perfume. With this combination, I finally get the powdery sweet feminine lipstick scent, plus all of the edgy, noir, femme fatal vibes of L'Ange Noir, without any masculine aspects.
If you prefer feminine perfumes, don't be afraid to mix L'Ange Noir with very sweet fragrances. It will balance, tone, and add depth to scents that are otherwise far too sweet and cloying. L'Ange Noir is extremely long lasting with strong to moderate projection. It's great used as a base to mix and blend with many other perfumes.

aguschinita

This smells like sesame and toasted almond in the beginning. Then it’s more creamy and powdery. It has something similar to back opium at some point. It’s elegant, sultry...
If you’re looking to find sweet almond here, though, this is not it.

idolinam

Definitely awesome almond and iris BOMB! Not sweet but soft, not powdery, not animalic. it do not stuck in my nose. And this is all i need, to enjoy perfume, to relax with perfume, that what gaves you this scent.

Jmalone84

Blindbuy at the annual Smith and Caugheys sale. This is a surprisingly good buy. Holds up to more luxury fragrances I was trying an hour earlier at Mecca. Lipsticky, pink-peppery, fresh green iris but also mellow almond blossom goodness. Never really thought much of other Givenchy fragrances bar Amarige (which is too nuclear for me to wear). But this is a very pleasant surprise indeed and honestly a bit out of the common compared to most of the sweetie generic crap on the market. I'm not usually a fan of pink pepper but in this it works really well. I'm happy with this purchase.

Note: the more I wear this the more pleased I am! It's such a good balance of light and dark. There is a warmth to it, like it's sexy, but it also keeps a nice powdery feel with a hint of greenness. Projection isn't too strong, it's just good enough that I feel most would be happy, i.e. nothing that sensitive people would think too strong, and not what people who like strong scents would be disappointed with. This is the first designer frag that I've been pleased with in such a long time, and so unexpected too :)

Много красива бадемова пудра, ако обичате Valentina poudre, alaia blanche това със сигурност ще ви хареса много

dsmercoco

Oh my I adore powdery scents. This is on my most favorite list. It is quite similar to Angel's Dust but is not an exact dupe. AD is all about mimosa.
L'Ange Noir has lovely qualities all of it's own. It's all about the iris and black sesame. The sesame note gives it a well worn leathery note in the opening......then blending with the powder oh man, "Uncle." Reminds me of how black sesame mochi taste.
If you love powder you MUST get your nose on this. Its exquisite. Silage becomes close to body after a couple of hours but longevity is at least 6hrs easy.

greydove

I love this, but there's something very troubling in the effect it gives. Its darkly, poisonously beautiful, like a henbane ointment witches used to rub on their skin to fly. It has a medicinal quality for sure-just as someone mentioned below it has a cherry cough syrup note at the start. I experienced an almost suffocating, claustrophobic moment from one spray on my wrist, as its so thick, dense and powdery I could almost taste it in my throat. There's a sinister aspect here, a sort of female assassin who throttles you and this is the smell you can detect just before passing out. There's hot wax dripped on skin and a hidden vinyl note in the drydown. Luckily, the opening calms down and it really begins to smell like the original Ange ou Demon, but a more gourmand, marzipan version. Wonderful, dark and a little disturbing. One spray is more than enough and I think best worn in cooler temps. This should be worn strategically, with care.

Tardismama

Absolutely lovely. Deep and sexy without being at all loud or animalistic or in your face. Very elegant. I do think it is very nearly a smell alike to Pengaligon's Iris Prima, but like Iris Prima is the drier more demure daytime scent and L'Ange Noir is the deeper and slightly sweeter evening scent. (though I think this would be absolutely fine as a day scent too)

xenoarthropod

Love at first scent?

Definitely!

It has some of the same qualities as some of my favorite fragrances. I can smell the iris for sure. It has a bit of the dry (cat fur) iris quality that is in Vera Wang Embrace Periwinkle and Iris, some of the same dry iris/violet quality that is in Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black (similar to the former), and definitely some MMM Lipstick on.

In the beginning, I got a heavy cherry-almond type impression that reminds me of the defensive odor of Eurycotis floridana (an insect). This can come off sort of like amaretto to me and I actually like the smell of that if it is not up close and irritating. ;-)

I can smell a savoriness (maybe the sesame) that makes this something different and I enjoy that as well.

So far I really dig this perfume! I decided to buy it because I like MMM lipstick on but did not like the price for the performance. I found this and the sesame note and descriptions/reviews intrigued me enough for a blind purchase. I am so happy I did! I feel like this is a better perfume with deeper and darker notes and am pleased that it has the quality that I love from 2 of my very favorites. <3

I have a feeling that I should have got the large bottle. I probably will because I think this will go pretty fast.

ingrid.superstar

I found this in my search for lipstick/cosmetic scents. It came highly recommended from a number of people who seem, from a glance at their perfume wardrobes, to be connoisseurs of this genre.

My very first impression is that, under the guise of a blind smell-test, if someone told me this was an Annick Menardo creation, I would have said, "That makes sense!"

It is not by her, BUT I am getting shades of the deep-yet-happy cherry note in Lolita Lempicka, the rubbery edge of Bvlgari Black, and the sort of handsome-gourmand sweet/hairy effect that Hypnotic Poison flirts with.

Right on top of L'Ange Noir is also a soapiness that conjures wax beads and so-called "unscented" lotion. I understand the comparison below to vanilla candles, now.

I hesitate a bit to make this next comparison, lest I sound creepy or like I am making broad, ignorant brushstrokes in talking about ethnically-specific human characteristics, BUT, having had a few boyfriends and friends of East Asian descent, I can say with some first-hand experience that there is a certain natural hair/skin oil scent particular to people of this heritage that a) differs vastly from people of Western European descent, and, b) smells sort of inherently waxy/soapy. Mix that natural body smell with the faintest whiff of any shampoo or other ancillary bath product and it smells…a lot like this perfume does in the first fifteen minutes. Amazing! Intriguing! Dare I say, a little weird.

Drying down, it is now in a nutty/creamy/sweet (but not edible) lipstick phase. I am getting soft puffs of cherry-almond from the fabric of my sleeve next to where I'm wearing this on my wrist. A tame, powdery, user-friendly iris is coming through as well. The oily, unctuous undertone of the sesame comes through occasionally, and comes just short of making my gag-reflex turn over.

Just like when I blind-bought Ellen Tracy Bronze for its alleged cosmetic-smelling properties, for the first hour I was like, "WTF kiddie lipstick is this?" Now, I crave it. I imagine this is what will happen with L'Ange Noir, independent of the fact that it bears no real note-to-note resemblance to Bronze, only a wispy and similar "makeup feeling."

L'Ange Noir is quite strange, but I like it. The savoriness is really throwing me for a loop, though.

adice

And just like that, my exploration of lipstick/cosmetic powder/sweet/iris fragrances is officially over. I've found my QWEEEEEEN, lol! Yeah, basically all my old favs can suck it. 1889 Moulin Rouge (I mean, I'll love her forever but she's been knocked off the pedestal for good), Lipstick On, Iris Rebelle, Iris des Champs Houbigant, etc., etc.

I also feel like this is pretty versatile, you could wear this out at night - bit of a "noir" aspect there. But you could also pull this off for daytime; it works for a retro, sexy secretary type of vibe too. It's not too heavy for a cool summer night and not too light for a cold winter day. Yeah, it's a really great scent.

It does both versions of iris I love - a bit of the really rubbery/waxy thing in the opening and then dries a bit more dusty. There is a healthy dose of sweet vanilla-ish tonka and that along with the almond/sesame notes make for a sweet but not too sweet vintage powder puff scent. I don't personally get much savory or culinary vibes - I was a little worried about that with it including sesame/almond/pepper but at least on my skin it's sweet/floral/powdery but never gets to gourmand (Iris Rebelle has a much stronger savory/herbal aspect than this one to my nose).

This perfume makes me want to explore this house a bit more - I have never given Givenchy the time of day.

Ps., Teo Cabanel Oh La La smells quite similar imho (if you're looking for something similar that is still in production) though I'd say it's woodier and a bit more unisex.

Perfumeaddict777

I don't know where people are getting a food smell or their stomachs turning from sesame seed. I Blind bought this perfume and it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! If you love lipstick smells most likely you'll love this. It smells very similar to lipstick on except this has somewhat of a candle vanilla candle scent to it in the opening as it dries down the candle smell dissipates and it becomes more like a dry waxy lipstick. I smell Amberette and a nice sweet spice. Like the way homes smell around the holidays when they're baking sugar cookies and burning candles. I do find this to be darker and mysterious. It's very beautiful very sexy. Longevity is great on me I sprayed it on at 8 a.m. and it's after 1 p.m. now and I can still get wafts of it. I did spray some in my hair and on my clothing. It's very beautiful on clothes as well as on skin. It is by far one of my favorite lipstick scents. I have lipstick on and lipstick rose and I had no idea what to expect from this perfume and I'm in love with this sweet , spicy, sexy , waxy , creamy lipstick perfume!

Seducianne

I have to say this one's drydown is IDENTICAL to Erbolario's Corteccia. It hit me after a few hours of wear, I kept catching whiffs of my first boyfriend's perfume... I was like, "what the hell, girl, are you getting a melancholy punch?" but no, it was L'ange noir lingering on my wrist and it's 90% the way I remember Corteccia smelling on him years ago. Needless to say I am in a love-hate relationship with this perfume now.

Charess

An extraordinary fragrance from Givenchy. Finally a fragrance with 'noir' in the title that indeed smells dark and mysterious.
I mostly get heavy almond, dark iris and balsamic tonka. I also get some sesame seed, which makes the scent a little spicy, in a very nice way. In the background, there's a little pink pepper and bergamot, adding some freshness.
Dark, balsamic, but very wearable.
Sillage is moderate, longevity is about 6 hours.
Great fragrance!

UnearthlyApothecary

The first time I sampled this one I was a bit dismissive. I thought it was weird and at the time I wasn’t a fan of “lipstick” scents. Something about this one stuck in my mind for some reason and I finally got a FB. I felt like I needed more time with this scent then another sample size could give me. At first spray it’s a little off putting, it really is a strong makeup/lipstick scent with something a little spicy in there somewhere. After a short time it kind of “settles” and that’s when the real magic happens. A sweet creamy powdery delight is born. I still don’t really get a “noir” vibe from this, but it’s a beauty and I’m glad I gave it another chance. Update: the ambrette really shines towards the drydown when you get this masculine musky cologne vibe. I’m really starting to fall for this strange little scent

Nomen

I seem to be the only one who doesn't get the lipstick impression of it. The reviewer below describes it as creamy... Not even that, not at all.
I get a cloud of powder. Sweet yes, but dark and powdery. In my book, what's powdery technically cannot be creamy as well (unless it develops so in its different stages).
In my book, lipsticks also couldn't possibly be powdery, so...
Ange Noir could be a great unisex fragrance and I think it would be very popular with men who like their fragrances on the sweet side, which are quite popular nowadays.
I am testing my Ange Noir from a decant, courtesy of a lovely Fragrantican <3

*I need to add that the longevity is exceptional! And I'm not easy on that qualification granting. Even in this dog's heat it never stopped radiating all around me, and all I've been doing was studying. I am embarrassed to admit, but it was actually too much for me! Hours later, I couldn't take it any longer and went for a good bath to get it off my skin and hair. This really doesn't happen to me a lot. Like ever.
So, for anyone who wants to smell deliciously powdery, and sweet in a dark and semi-masculine manner, all day long, even in the heat, this is the perfect choice for you!

Lucyana

OMG! What a great fragrance! This is so beautifull, very very creamy, like the SailorV's review i agree about the nutty milky aspect. I got this with Elizabeth and James Amethyst, but that was a disappointing blind buy. This one is a love.

SailorV

I'm quite neutral about lipstick-like fragrances: I generally like them, but they're not my favorite genre.
L'Ange Noir is a really good one out of that category. It does remind me of Lipstick On (which I also like) a little bit, but it's not the same at all, it's heavier, less fresh and sweet, more mature, but in a good way.
In LO I get a strong bergamot in the opening, in L'Ange Noir, I don't.

The scent is very waxy and creamy, it doesn't become too powdery or dry. Cool iris and warm almond and tonka balance out nicely. It's a bit sweet, but not a gourmand fragrance. What really makes this stand out is the sesame note. It's unusual, savory and nutty, very special, but not weird.
Definitely a must-try for any lover of cosmetic-like or almondy scents.

Soofiya

Almond is one of my most favorite perfume notes,I love it in all it's variations, when I saw it's paired with iris and tonka in givenchy l'ange noir I immediately ordered it which was a great decision
L'ange noir worthes every penny I paid for it.I agree that it has a niche-like quality, also I agree that it can be unisex.I usually don't like feminine perfumes with a masculine/unisex vibe but this is among exceptions.I love it!
Almond is very prominent but this isn't a sweet almondy gourmand.on the contrary I find it somehow bitter.yes, there's tonka and amber giving it this balmy sweetness but all in all it's not a sweet perfume.I adore whatever note which makes a perfume delicious and at the same time bitter-ish or dark, such as licorice, myrrh, hazelnut, cocoa, cinnamon &...I believe sesame acts the same here.it gives this a pastry-like but not sweet deliciousness.the overall scent feels very dry and somehow cold when first sprayed but it becomes warmer and buttery as time passes.iris is easily detectable making it look like a far relative of Dior homme intense but I wished there was more iris here.vintage lipstick, face powder goes very well with this almondy bread thing but I feel sometimes the latter one overpowers iris and covers it
L'ange noir is kind of dark without being pretentious.I find it comforting and a confidence booster and sometimes crave it but I don't wear it regularly.I need more sweetness, more florals for my regular perfumes so I often layer in with Armani code cashmere.the result is Devine.I also love it's layer with Dior homme intense and valentino uomo on my husband
Longevity is very good.sillage is medium.it's bottle looks great
Highly recommended

raiza1990

The opening is difficult to tolerate. It is a deep sweetness mixed with something oriental that just smell bad and rotten, and a bit bread- like. I guess it is the sesame. It does give this fragrance a certain exotic vibe, but the perfume would be much better without it.
Once it is gone, i am left with a dark, soft powder and a makeup shop smell.
I prefer L'Ange ou Demon to this one, but once the sesame is gone, it is not a bad fragrance. It has a certain Shalimar vibe that is pleasant.
I recommend it to extravagant, goth, mature women.

MoreScentsThanDollars

I was totally in love with this one but now finding the sesame seed note extreme and too much, all was going great until we dined at a Asian restaurant and the fried rice had the same smell and from that night it's all I can smell in this fragrance.
I'm hoping my love returns but I'm not betting on it.
A try a few times before buy type scent.
I thought it fair to mention my experience seeing I did a big 'love' review further down.
It's a strong like for me now. x

missk

L'Ange Noir by Givenchy is very much on trend with the current influx of almond scents flooding the market. Thankfully I love the scent of almond and find L'Ange Noir very wearable, if not sensual.

There are very few similarities between L'Ange Noir and the original Ange ou Demon series. This fragrance is more of a gourmand with lots of sugared almonds, vanillic tonka bean, and syrupy amber. The iris lends a soothing powdery aspect which softens the scent considerably. It's like a darker, sexier version of Prada's Infusion d'Amande on my skin.

The bottle is positively stunning in person with its violet hues and glittery lacquer at the base. I would quite happily stare at the bottle on my dresser all day long if I could get away with it.

The longevity on my skin was superb lasting at least six to seven hours, however, the sillage was relatively soft. I would recommend L'Ange Noir for evening wear as the name suggests, however you could also wear it as a daytime scent during Winter and Autumn as long as the weather permits.

ICK
Floral with an undercurrent of gas station bathroom deodorizer. Strong chemical, medicinal, off-putting undercurrent. Some of the fine folks on Fragrantica compare iris to to the scent of carrots - a veggie that makes me deathly ill (smell, taste, texture . . .) so the iris note might be why I am getting a sharp/bitter strong negative reaction to L'Ange Noir.

Generally a fan of Givenchy (Chamade was my first grown-up fragrance). This is not in the same league as that.

muge

İ first detected a very heavy sugary hazelnut syrup kind of top note then quickly it turned out as a carroty rooty iris powder. I prefer my iris fresh and grassy which is quite rare to encounter. Very strong iris&tonka not like infusion d'iris's fresh touch but more like some cardigan type winter perfume as guerlain would do with iris

savageinstrangeland

This fragrance has A LOT of dislikes. I don't really understand why... it's actually pretty great as long as it's properly applied with a very light hand because it's STRONG. People adore MM "Lipstick On" which I also own and it is quite similar, yet they hate this. Perhaps it's the sesame note most people struggle with? Anyway, it's very lovely. Powdery, sweet, warm, and indeed Noir. I don't find the sesame off putting or overly intense. If anything it lends a slightly waxy, nutty, texture that's necessary to the overall effect. I love it! It's unpopular but I would definitely repurchase. It's much cheaper than Lipstick On so I recommend it to those who want that cosmetics note at a bit lower price. Let me be crystal clear: They are NOT identical Twins, but more like half sisters. I don't want anyone blind buying because someone on fragrantica said it was a dupe. It's not. But it does share some serious similarities in the dry down.

L'ange Noir, like most Givenchy fragrances, lasts forever on me! I mean it goes the distance! My skin typically eats perfume quickly but most from this house stick around 8-12 hours and L'ange Noir proudly joins the ranks of its predecessors. Others have mentioned it is masculine... it is NOIR. Very dark. And some truly dark fragrances seem to come off that way to some people. I don't really think of gender in relation to fragrance though. So it would have to be pretty darn "classically masculine marketed cologne smelling" for me to agree on that point and this definitely doesn't smell like a cologne marketed towards men. Straight up manly? No. Unisex? Sure! But consider the source...I think everything is unisex! lol

Babieluv

This opens with nothing but a smell of sesame. For me it's not pleasant at all. Yuck! Luckily this lasts only for 5 minutes and then turns into a very lovely, powdery lipstick scent. Very similar to Lipstick on. It's on my want list.

EDIT 1: I couldn't stop thinking about this one so I ended up buying it.Yup, it's that captivating :)
EDIT 2: This is my top 3 perfume now. That sesame smell at the beginning doesn't bother me anymore. It is such a divine, longlasting fragrance.

MoreScentsThanDollars

Great stuff! Opens with a pungent sesame seed and dusty, waxy Iris mix, smooths out with a sweet tonka, a gorgeous fragrance of depth.
Highly recommend and a love for me xxx

Update : This on my skin is very long lasting, I woke to a strong, close, smooth, sweet skin scent and I really love this scent.

Suomineito

I can detect the iris right away because to me it smells like carrots. Interesting perfume at the first spray but on my skin this dissapears after a couple of hours. I can't even smell it if I put my nose straight to my skin. I don't think this smells like Shalimar Parfum Initial at all - Shalimar is more interesting, has distinct developing stages whereas this plain just dissapears. So I can't confirm the niche feel as I think that would mean longevity and some sort of different stages in the development of the perfume on the skin. The perfume industry should just start to name these kind of subtle "eaux des parfumes" what they really are: eaux des toilettes.

I believe that skin chemistry plays a huge part. If your skin agrees with this perfume it stands out because of the iris which isn't in every mainstream concoction at the moment. If you have a dry skin you might end up wondering where did this eau de ghost disappear.

Great, great stuff! Well done, Givenchy! It is sophisticated, elegant, mysterious and complex on so many levels. Definately needed such a perfume. Although it is not listed, I detect a bit of coconut but it must be he tonka bean combined with the almonds. Love it!

Taxidermy

It smells like a night version of Infusion d'Iris.

Papavero0

I went sniffing with great expectations and in great anticipation as the notes for this one seemed just right for me...Iris, almonds, tonka bean, amber.. I honestly thought I'd adore it. And it was on sale. But...nope...I thought it was going to be a floral gourmand, a dark elegant delicious-something...But it was just sweet-ish, airy and something synthetic lurking in the background. Then that synthetic did show up and I just felt so sorry...Now the combination of notes in this one will haunt me. What I imagined will be an obsession till I find something that meets that imagination... Damn it! :)

Very nice scent. I keep smelling my arm. I bought it for a gender fluid friend of mine and yes, as @iamoir said: "could work on a man too."

"Torilla tavataan!" @Suomineito :D I'm dry skinned and this just works. It's fascinating how some fragrances just work or don't work on some skins.

Duskfall

Oh my... This is dreadful! I get almonds, iris and something unnatural and toxic. A nauseatingly sweet and weird plasticky-powdery smell. No wonder it was in the bargain bin.

Mindenrosa

This is like a film noir –atmosphere captured into the perfume bottle.

I immediately took a huge fancy to this perfume. It is a dusky scent, which isn’t too suffocating by being overly heavy or super-sweet. It is beautifully powdery, lipstick-like, waxy smelling fragrance, sort of the feeling like pushing your head into a leather vanity bag which is full of high-end cosmetic products. This is feminine in a dignifying way. I sense strongly the glamour of old Hollywood in it in my imagination – thinking about Rita Hayworth; she would have been wearing it by a suitable, graceful way.

I believe that L’Ange Noir isn’t made for being a crowd pleaser. It's not everyone’s favorite and first choice, but then it’s not also coming around in every corner within every oncoming citizen. You are able to feel yourself a special one by wearing this. If you are keen on notes of powdery iris, creamy almonds and refined rounded softness and muted down tender sweetness, then, then this is a perfume worth trying. Givenchy’s L’Ange Noir is a stylish perfume, which attracted a nibble of attention among people around you. This isn’t easy, but this is the different one. I am hooked.

iamoir

I love it from first sniff. It is not a common thing to find a bitter perfume nowadays and I just wonder how on earth wasn't Ange Noir discontinued yet. A miracle!
Long lasting but stays close to skin. Survived washing with soap and water. And later it survived several wipings with wet wipes. Smells powdery, buttery, lipsticky. Old lipstick type. That's a plus. It is noir. It is odd. Could work on a man too.

As for the notes: bitter almond dominates the fragrance. There is the powdery iris and personally I smell the sesame too, I think it's even more prevalent than iris at times. The role of sesame here is to intensify the almond; make it more bitter. Because sesame is truly bitter if you have ever tasted just sesame. Initially is very musky and strong but it softens within minutes and settles like that. The overall blend misses some florals, but that's okay! It is also balmy, which I love in a perfume.

I'm happy to have found a scent with bitter almond that works for me. Yes there is hypnotic poison, but it's packed with vanilla and it's not my poison really. But Ange Noir is a fit.
A yes from me.

Sheza

Ange ou demon flanker; thought i would definately get some a.o.d. dna coming through but i get no association with this line at all. Definately lipsticky, powdery and that platic vibe. Not much projection but quite intense. Not for me sorry and i dont get the similarity to shalimar pi at all

perfume_infatuated

A powdery scent, that remains close to the skin throughout all of its phases.

The opening is really dark, controlled by the smell of dark sesame oil. This short phase is masculine and controversial. The dry down gradually brings out the sweetness and the nice makeup powder vibe. It becomes really good by time. Powdery yes, but not creamy.

At least this was my first impression from a single test. Overall, a nice perfume, in a very chic bottle.

AliaC.

This is a big no-no for me! I love powdery-almondish scents, but this is just rotten sesame seeds! I was expecting so much more from this scent! Don't blind-buy this one!

lemmenkukka

This is lovely, successfully made stylish scent with luxury impression. Not at all strong, merely very intensive, and subtle at the same time. This is september and winter scent, wear it with woollen pullover. Iris is very warm and intense here. My skin loves this...

For The Love of Perfume

MMMM...such a comforting smell. I really love this..but then again, I love anything with iris and the vintage smell of makeup powder. The amber and tonka bean gives it that gentle warmth and the sesame seed and almond give it a rich, nutty pasty smell. I really like this one, it smells just like "Lipstick On" but this one lasts alot longer. :)

rakan1985

scent : 10/10
sillage : 8/10
longevity :8/10
100% night fragrance
reminds me of Dior Homme intense
nice iris scent

sp88

Powdery almond in perfect description. I don't like it as I dont like almond note. Silage and longetivity is poor. Not for me.

darksome

Carrots? The opening smells like rubber sallad with baby carrots..

Iris is a very versatile note, it can be interpreted in many different ways. Here, in my opinion, creators couldn't make up their mind so they did a little bit of everything.
For the first couple of hours it smells like a combination of two perfumes. There is thick buttery iris note with almost leathery texture from Shalimar Parfum Initial and rich milky benzoin from Prada Candy. It's smooth and creamy, not powdery at all and borderline gourmand. So far so good.
It's a second phase that I have problem with. It becomes drier and louder (and it wasn't quiet to begin with) and there is a third party that comes into play which I can only describe as a purple powder that tickles my nose and reminds me of Givenchy Dahlia Noir.
Although I like Dahlia Noir as well as the other two mentioned perfumes the combination of all three is to much for me. Food, leather and make up powder just don't go together.
L'Ange Noir is a complex and distinct perfume but a bit overwhelming and tiresome on my skin. I'll stick to Ange ou Demon.

mschnabel666

A blind buy splurge for me, I love the EDP of AouD and this sounded amazing.

I like it.
It's like Shalimar Initial EDP mixed with Prada Candy. The benzoin in L'Ange Noir is exactly like PC in my opinion. And the powdery sweet vintage lipstick vibe is like SPI. (The sweet powder also reminded me of Insolence a bit)

This isn't too groundbreaking for me, it's not a huge love, but I like it. Soft, dry, yet great longevity, and above average sillage. In fact, the musky benzoin drydown lasted forever, but was kinda boring by that time.
I don't see benzoin in the notes.... but something is very similar to the musky sweet of PC.
I do remember something smoky/spicy.... but not that much.

Wearing again on a sloppy winter day.... this is sweet, but reminds me of Private Room by Jeanne Arthes, and that rather disappoints me. I love Private Room, but this Givenchy shouldn't smell like a $10 drugstore perfume. :( Granted, L'Ange Noir is unique for that dusty lipstick smell.

samlovefragrance

Another perfume i can call "love at first sniff" :) Also now my first Givenchy. I had high hopes for the juice judging by the notes and the premise of a film noir scent. Well:)
It opens with a blast of cool lipstick iris, warm sesame that gives a powdery bready note, a tiny hue of red fruit (maybe the ambrette with the pink pepper) and almost candied almond. The sesame accord is divine and adds an unexpected twist to the scent. This alone puts it in "danger" of entering my favorite scents top 10!

The fragrance remains sweet, powdery, with a veil of almond dough and sesame nuttiness, with a cool restrained iris. Very androgynous, L'ange noir stands between gourmand territory and powdery darkness, almost like 2 separate parts that mix beautifully together. The bottle is a beauty too.

scent: 8+/10
longevity: 6/10
sillage: 6/10

auroramaria

I finally got my bottle today! I wanted powder and L'Ange Noir gives me just that! It's a gorgeous deep and dark sweet-powdery fragrance.I agree with Germany when she says it has a niche quality, it is really beautiful. The iris is rich and buttery and yet it is very powdery.
I see L'Ange Noir better worn during a breezy and cold night just the right amount to turn heads and have people asking what you are wearing.
it is better suited to a lady who loves powdery fragrances as this is very dusty and yes it is sweet but not over the top.
Brilliant creation!

mirisfrik

It smells a lot like Shalimar Parfum Initial by Guerlain

ellebunny

I agree with the reviewer that said that it smells like Lipstick On. That was the very first thing I thought when I smelled this. It's the same powdery musky vanilla-like iris note, in which both smell quite chalky. It smells like what I imagine to be Rita Hayworth's powder room from the 1940s to smell like, except with a freshly baked baguette delivered there by her maid. The sesame gives it in oily, almost buttery quality. Very interesting fragrance indeed. Anyone who likes iris or Lipstick On should check this out.

Perseia

There's almond and there's almond. I like almond in perfume. Unfortunately this is not it. It's too sweet, too cloying. You know how some people hate marzipan? Well, I guess this perfume is like marzipan - you may like it or not. Ironically I quite like it.

The notes look promising but the delivery is different. The longevity is great though. Probably like with most perfumes one dislikes:)

And have you noticed how all the black or noir(e) perfumes lately are far from dark and mysterious? Like they're competing which can actually be most opposite to the word, which can be sweeter and nicer.

Nikkafragrance

Starts really gourmie with sweet almond and intense tonka. Fades into a comforting milky scent with a slightly masculine vibe, yet it's very alluring. Interesting new perfume, not common for Givenchy. Nice silage and longevity.

victoria.mei1992

There are just three notes as I've read on the sampler black sesame iris and amber. But I get very strong note of benzoin, it's like 5 times stronger prada candy version, very strong and unattractive, would say it smells more masculine than feminine.

daivasvait

I smell iris, tonka beans, almonds.... Sweet, but not too heavily. Quite a delicate scent, dark, piquant, warm. The longer I wear it, the more I like it. Never liked Givenchy. Changed my mind.

ScarlettX

I think it's an interesting scent by Givenchy. Quite outstanding from the masses. It's the powdery iris, that makes is mysterious and interesting. Besides that I can sense sweet almond and tonka bean.
I like this smoky, dark, mysterious and seductive scent. Quite intriguing.

dormir6

Very similar to L'ARTISAN Bois Farine.
Mild and soft one with dusty iris.
The sesame and almond really give a buttery, bready edge but it is not ön the gourmand side. Very fluffy, warm and nice for winter.
Special as not sugar boosted one in the drogeries.

Germany

I love iris perfumes , what can I say? I especially like warm powdery sweet iris perfumes.
I realize most people do not love the iris note in perfumes as much as i do. It seems most iris dominant perfumes get bad reviews. This particular one reminds me of silver iris by atelier , it's dense , buttery , powdery and sweet. I love the sesame , it gives it a bready smell , which I bet is something lots of people don't like.,, Like "love in black " , one of my favourites ,has a bread note also. The almond and tonka is nice and give it a dense sweet gourmandish edge. But this perfume is not a gourmand. It reminds me of a few iris heavy perfumes in the niche category but it still has its own smell. The amberette is great too , with its musky vegetal note ,slightly metallic and well suited for an iris heavy perfume. Also the amber makes this perfume a little elegant and gives it a great base.
I could see how some may find it masculine in a way as it also reminds me of DH , which by the way is not your typical masculine perfume. It's worn by many women. This is a keeper , at least for me. It's different in a way. It enters niche / different category ,it's not your regular department store perfume, that's for sure.

virga

Nice dusty-powdery composition, based on iris, musk, almond and tonka bean. It’s not noir or femme fatale, so the advertising and glitter on the bottle is a little bit misleading. L’Ange Noir is dreamy, mysterious, noble, earthy, very grown-up, but not exactly lady-like scent. Imagine beautiful warm autumn evening – the light is soft, it makes all the things to look less angular, and everything is wrapped in the subtle glowing mist. Similar to Infusion d'Iris Eau de Parfum. L’Ange Noir is not very “feminine”, could be labelled as a unisex.

lasuse

starts off with smokey sweet and a bit spicy almond, really delicious, but fades into rather boring drydown.

genny17

We have it in Canada, I got it unsniffed, it is better than the other versions, it is longer lasting, it has that oriental vibe, it isn't gourmand, and the black sesame gives it a bit of a dry edge too..I am not like waowed by it, but it is interesting, grown up, sensuous yes...the base is sweeter, but the overall tone isnt sweet, more floral oriental, with a hint of powder....my husband found it to have a masculine vibe..not sure I agree, the bottle is real pretty, the scent intriguing, but for some reason, it leaves me a bit cold!!
Update: after wearing it for a few days, I must say I truly enjoy it! It does have a niche quality, and although it isn't heady, it stays close to the skin in a real beautiful way...the iris has a bit of an earthy vibe, which gives the scent an unfamiliar vibe.Liking it a lot!!

Arlene-Beatrix

Dark vibe is there indeed! It's sensual scent, perfect for a night out. A bit spicy, but not harsh. I would say it's well rounded. Femme fatale would wear it with pride.
