feminite du bois+ powdery rose. beautiful!

mateuszolech072

Massimo Dutti has released a clone of Galop. It’s called Daylight Parfum and it’s very close to Hermes. Price wise is also much lover. Maybe someone would like to check it out. Although I don’t know anything about longevity, original Galop lasted on me all day.

poppadi

one of my top 5 all time favorites. open up with a sweet burst of jammy rose petals that develops gorgeously into leathery smoothness. distinctive. opulent. i don't know any scent that's similar to this. a full bottle and refill worthy!

MrDeeva

Is this being discontinued ? The refill doesn’t seem to be available anymore anywhere and the original flacon ain’t either on many sites ?

lessthanzero

Metallic, rose, geranium, red wine, soft fruits, sweet leather, cashmeran or ambroxan.

A little futuristic... I'd agree with the reviewer below who said this is reminiscent of Ganymede by Marc Antoine Barrois. Not that they smell alike. But just like Ganymede uses akigalawood, a natural patchouli chemically bleached of its rough edges, there is something otherworldly, space oddysey, slightly ozonic about Galop. They are also both osmanthus leathers, with Ganymede unisex leaning masculine and Galop unisex leaning feminine.

The quince is brilliant. It is true to the balance of crystalline-sweetness and tangy almost fermented sourness found in quince paste.

Performance is strange... hard to smell up close on skin, but with a fabulous trail and cloud.

I think about it a lot. Very nice! 4.5/5

Galop develops so smoothly and every note plays an active role throughout its performance with so much control. Leather is the most prominent note I'm getting and it's a note I typically avoid to personally wear, but I find it modern whilst being timeless. It is the classiest perfume I own. To me this is a surprisingly easy wear, interchangeably unisex and undeniably chic.

I love it, it's so good.

Galop takes time to develop and grow . For me it was a blind buy, like at least 60% of my collection. It has become nearly impossible to find, I suspect it’s discontinued since even Hermes website doesn’t sell it any longer, not the bottle, nor the refill. I came across a bottle of refill Galop in an online shop where I’ve been shopping for many years. It was more expensive than an Amouage, and still, I decided it was then or never. My bottle arrived, and my first reaction was to dab a little. It was disappointing. Plain leather, something woody animatic, not much rose, no quince, no fruit - immediately I thought I should have gotten another bottle of Kelly Caleche edp, since I love that one, I don’t have much left of it, and it would have been less expensive than Galop.
I should say that it was the note of quince which made me take the decision in paying this much money, since quince is a very rare and hard to find fruit here in Canada, but I grew up with it in Europe and I love it. I was so upset.
I decided to find an empty decant with a sprayer, and sprayed. Lots. On skin, and on my clothes. And magic happened. With a glass of St. Germain in my hand, (my favorite liqueur, it’s an elderflower blossom sweet potion), I was enveloped in the softest leather, jammy roses, a hint of smoke, and, St.Germain liqueur which does smell and taste like elderflowers, lychees, and quinces. Absolutely magic. Was the fruit coming from my drink or from Galop?
The guilt left me. I love it. It was worth the investment.
It’s funny how when you acquire a large collection such as my own, it’s much easier to feel upset when spending money on a new perfume, because you did not need it, and there’s a good chance you have something similar already. Galop is not similar to anything else I own, and I have over 350 bottles.
The silage is moderate, the lasting power is excellent, all to be expected from pure parfum concentration. Second day, my skin still smells like it, and so does the shirt I wore yesterday. It’s morning now, so no more booze, but a couple of more sprays of Galop, and, half an hour later, it’s back in full beauty. It is unisex indeed, but leaning more feminine as the time passes.
I love it, and I can see myself wearing a lot. It’s very special, and to me, worth it, and addictive, but it was not love at first sniff. Don’t judge it only by the top notes.

I like rose and also like leather smell. This makes me think of a wealthy women riding horse through english rose garden. rose is flesh with citrus touch. leather /dark inscence? overlays rose. leather is more prominent than rose after while. I like these scents combined. boss lady vibe. but not a bottle purchase for me.

Imagine this...a love child of Rose Ikebana and Cuir D'Ange? 100%. It starts with a bitter citrus note, then goes into this amazing rose-leather combination that is out of this world. Ultra classy, and lasts all day long, not shouty, but knows how to make a statement. As a lover of Cuir D'Ange, im glad i found this for 100 bucks for a new bottle. I never understood the "unwearable" and "weird" comments that this gets? this is perfectly classy and easy to pull off...

Ode2analogue

Can anyone confirm if this was discontinued? I'm in Canada and I don't see this online anymore

Ferish

When I first tried I did not like it but now I understand Galop’s magic. So I am re-writing my review. Galop by Hermes is pure beauty in a bottle… It is leathery rose on my skin. A little citrusy and a little dusty but not powdery dust. I get lots of compliments when wearing it.

When I smell it, I imagine a blonde woman in her early 30’s, her outfit is old money. She is humble and pretty with innocence smile. I am obsessed.

morkant

The refills and the normal size bottle are out of stock in all the places in my city that used to sell them, does anyone know if Galop has been discontinued? It’s also out of stock online, DM me if anyone hears anything!

Hstafford85

Fantastic perfume. Wish it was easier to get.

Ankhahaha

Smells perfect, just like a perfume should. Clean and dirty at the same time. I feel frighteningly womanly when wearing this.

Edit: I let it get under my skin. The result: bought 300ml in a oner. I don't regret it; I want to smell like this forever.

LSAUG

Galop is the quintessential feminine leather, there is no need to search for another. So, aristocratic, so arrogant, Galop flaunts its wealth in your face w/ no apologies and no mercy. Elena K described this fragrance so perfectly so eloquently that I doubt that I could add anything to her assessment of this finely crafted fragrance. If you want a perfume that smells like old money, sophistication, privilege, and arrogance get your nose on this beauty right away. It is breathtaking. Full bottle worthy for leather lovers and lovers of class, style, elegance and quite a bit of bravado.

Edit: I wasn't going to buy a full bottle of this. Instead, I was going to be good and just get decants from time to time but I love Galop so much that I just have to pull the trigger on this one. This is so rich, so decedent, just everything I have wanted in a leather fragrance for so long. Buttery, boozy, animalic, supple, delicious, exotic, it is so over the top and bold. This is a daring release for a design house, hell this puts most niche fragrances I have smelled to shame. I have written over a 1000 reviews and have smelled close to 1,500 perfumes (I've smelled a ton of stuff not in the data base) and Galop is truly something special. One of a kind.

Advaitaforever

So equestrian. I love it for its authenticity. I can’t imagine this is for everyone but if you are a leather enthusiast then it’s phenomenal. A dry, newly polished, sable saddle for a regal stallion. It’s completely unisex but has some powdery accents and frills that add a refined and aristocratic character. This is the type of fragrance that leaves the perfect impression without the wearer saying anything, like an effortlessly perfect posture. It’s completely different to bel ami which is more aged and rustic.

KBreckenridge

I've just bought a bottle. It's pretty but very, very strong. The SA told me that they only sell this is in the pure parfum concentration, at least here in the US. I wished it came in a dabber instead because even one spray can be too much. As for the scent itself, it's mostly roses and artificial leather. Expensive but artificial. I've never seen a fragrance that smells like real leather anyways so there's that. This would easily fit in the Louis Vuitton fragrance collection.

Glassfury

Not usually a leather OR rose fan but this is so so surprising and intriguing, with a saffron spicy flicker to it. This may also be one of the most beautiful bottle designs I've ever seen. I want it. Oh my god. I want it so much.

Maabena85

I got this as a gift too. I love it. I will purchase if I get the funds.I only used it on special occassions

DariaFrancesca74

Galop d'Hermes by Hermès created by Christine Nagel extraordinary, brilliant animalic fragrance that evokes intense and aristocratic equestrian atmospheres. Galop surprisingly smells of equine mantle ... yes, the scent of equine mantle magically enclosed in a bold bottle that reproduces an elegant stirrup. When dry the leathery notes are imperious, powerful, almost manure, the rose is an occult accomplice that when dry down manifests itself in all its majesty, the saffron note dominating in accordance with the acidulous fruity notes of the quince, all masterfully blended creates a noble and grandiose magnetic effect, at times leathery / manure at times floral / fruity and sensual. Galop is a sensory-olfactory experience that I highly recommend you to live. Fantastic.

Seconding whoever said this, you'll smell like a wealthy person's private tack room in the most beautiful way. Luxuriously conditioned English saddles, bridles and Parlanti's. It can get overwhelming, this is particularly strong imo.

emilymonroe1

My friend gifted me this last year. I was not sure about it so I read the notes. Opening notes were very sweet, joyful and the juvenile kind which brought the divine feel. The smoothness, sweetness and elegance in it that is covered with the delicious juicy berries making this classy scent very breezy, feminine and sexy.

Enrium

Galop is a top-quality rose-leather scent, seemingly only available in parfum concentration. It is a rich, dark rose, initially bolstered by spices, that becomes sweeter as it develops, joined by smooth leather in its later stages. Despite the marketing, it is a unisex rose scent, not a million miles away from Frédéric Malle Rose & Cuir, or Memo Paris French Leather Rose, as Pilikins below points out. Opulent yet bohemian, Galop is a thing of beauty, masterfully composed by the excellent Christine Nagel - I believe it is her Hermès début. I adore a rich rose scent, and this is a great example of one.

The rose note is present from the very beginning, enhanced to perfection by the earthy, spicy saffron. I adore a good rose-saffron accord - it being the height of refinement - and it is beautifully done here. The quince note adds a soft, slightly sour fruitiness - not unpleasant - lingering in the background for a little while. The rose develops, becoming the main event - rich, dark and honeyed. It is a little like the rose in Amouage Lyric, or Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin - both exceptional dark rose scents I've smelled lately. There is a slight apricot nuance thanks to the osmanthus, which lifts and sweetens the rose a little.

As it develops, the leather accord emerges, stemming seamlessly from the saffron of the opening. It smells of top quality, buttery-soft leather, which, along with the rose, makes for a truly opulent accord. The leather note (along with the stirrup-shaped bottle, of course) is an obvious nod to Hermès' equestrian heritage. The rose-leather accord is smooth and delicious as it fades, joined by a little musk that blurs the edges to perfection. Sillage and longevity are moderate - it fades after about 5-6 hours - not exceptional performance for a parfum, but absolutely fine.

Unisex, but more feminine than Rose & Cuir for example, this is an autumn/winter scent that is nonchalant enough to be worn during the day. Utterly classy. 4.5/5.

Pilikins

This is quite similar to Memo French Leather Rose, only with a more prominent leather note. I love this perfume, it is so plushy and luxurious. The quince cuts through the headiness of the rose/leather accord which makes the perfume a bit more refreshing than it might otherwise be. The perfume reminds me of the description of an evening a salon in the novel “The Picture of Gray”: bowls of blooming of roses everywhere and deep leather arm chairs, all suffused in, and warmed by evening light. I can imagine basking in one of these arm chairs, breathing in the rose and leather laden air. Just divine.

Wow, what a gorgeous fragrance! I tend to love most of the Hermes fragrances but this is a stand out. I get a lot of citrus in this - which I normally don't love - but the dry down is so light and beautiful. This may replace Hiris as my signature scent! Longevity is great - up to 14 hours.

Search and Discover

Thanks to all the reviewers for painting such amazing pictures of this fragrance ... I am taking the jump and buying this (somewhat extravagant) perfume from Hermes online (can't find it elsewhere). I have been trying to figure out for the last two years what perfume I had sampled at Bloomingdale's just before the pandemic hit and all the testers were put away. Finally, once stores reopened, I thought it was Twilly and tested that -- absolutely not it! By process of elimination and the descriptions below, I think it's Galop. I remember by being bowled over by the scent, instantly in love, but also in a rush to get out of the store. Then I couldn't remember what it was ... Really hoping it was Galop because it's on its way!

You live in a mansion, it’s early autumn and the sun has just gone up. You take your horse for a stroll in the huge garden, some quince has fallen from the trees and your horse is trampling them occasionally. There are pink rose bushes everywhere and the entire garden is still covered in morning dew. The air is cool but the sun is warming your face, and you can smell whiffs from the impeccably cared for leather of the saddle.

This is the mental image I’m getting. I’m imagining Charlotte York from SATC wearing this on her day off. A bohemian scent for the super posh!

BeardedIris

The first time I encountered Galop I was completely wrong-footed by it. My guess at the note list was way off. I was picking up minty green freshness and white florals and lily-of-the-valley with a crisp, clean vetiver in the base. So 100% wrong and that's part of Galop's intrigue.

Wearing it today I look at the note list and I can pick out the muted rose and the saffron and mild, creamy leather but they're not what I smell first and foremost. It's the quince. Like cool, unsweetened pear with its softer side drawn out by the apricot and nectar notes of osmanthus. It's this cool fruitiness that I mistook for "green" and the fleshy notes of white floral.

Another point about Galop is its distinctiveness. It has the Hermès DNA — highly-polished, clean lines, fresh, not much weight in the base — but its uniqueness makes it recognisable. So you need to have the confidence to own it rather than let it own you.

But if you can pull it off it's worth it because Galop is absolutely beautiful. A real head-turner of a fragrance. Unexpected when you encounter it and very alluring. Unisex, daytime, projecting city sophistication, a little bit bougie, a little bit cold but that's Hermès. The bottle is a stunner too. One to own and cherish

flordelsol

Hmmmm, okay. This is the exact scent that perfectly describes all the horse books I read growing up that I wished would come to life. This is the affluent horse world I dreamt of living in, when I was riding OTTB's through backyards. This scent is a smart looking, black Thoroughbred with white socks and a strip with new horseshoes clacking down pavement as his groom brings him to a box stall before the race. This scent is jangling chains, new feed buckets, new polished riding boots, a clean tack room, monogrammed saddle pads, "a million isn't a lot of money" energy. Beautiful. This scent has wit, a scrutinizing gaze, it wears a thin gold necklace, tiny diamond studs, and nothing more. Anything more is just frill. I see rainy days on the English countryside in an indoor arena, a beautifully, well-organized tack room, crisp paper bags at a clothing shop, driving alone in a new SUV, dark colored racehorses that are groomed to the nines, German Shepherds and Border Collies. Love this one so much. I will say on my skin I am receiving a lot more animal and rose than I was expecting. Pleasantly surprising. I look forward to the next 3-4hrs with this scent. Normally I wear deadly-sweet scents, but this one has taken me on an adventure.

Edit: after wearing this fragrance for five days straight, and putting it on before bed, I see a delicate dance between fine leather and rose. It splits exactly half and half for me. It gives me a confidence I never knew I could have, and it's a scent I had to grow into and question myself if I have the courage to be That Woman while wearing it. Beautiful. Definitely a favorite. If anyone is selling a bottle let me know!

Sometimes when I first try fragrances, I “see” the scent as a physical place. For me, Galop is an enormous, glass atrium, filled with dazzling sunshine. This is a beautiful, classic fragrance that is refreshingly different than almost everything else I own (I tend to collect incense-y, smoky, dirty leather scents). I own half a dozen leathers, but none sparkle like this — and while I usually run screaming in the opposite direction of any rose, this is delectable.

onebadbaby

Galop is really hard to define for me. It starts off as a zesty, juicy fruity floral, but there is this smooth leather component that underpins everything- and it's a really expensive refined leather- definitely not horsey or raw, but like the finest leather handbag or a pair of ladies suede gloves. As it dries the fruitiness fades and the rose becomes more dominant. Imagine a woman's delicate hand in a suede glove holding a young fresh picked rose and that is what Galop is.

This smells like I’m one of the 1% being driven around Monte Carlo in my stupidly expensive, brand new car. A window into near unattainable luxury. I probably have a villa here for when I’m feeling social, but more estates than I could possibly count. I do not need a film studio to put me up, thank you very much. I’m too good to be around mere mortals. Stand up straight, polish those diamonds, freshen those fillers and live the best life, you beautiful, perfect thing. Or at least SMELL like you do.

alphairone

The ever thriving debate of designer and niche amongst certain circles continues to bemuse me: why is there so much emphasis on this distinction, and why are there so many attempts for a solid delineation between the two? In the multi-century history of fragrance, through most of that time, there was none of this nonsense. Whenever I am folded into this frivolity, I just mention Hermes as a prime example of where a so-called 'designer' house can release fragrances that runs circles around so many modern "niche" offerings. Hell, they have the budget for talented noses, quality materials, and they are a designer house that clearly puts effort into maintaining reputation.

Case in point: Galop d'Hermes. This is not a mainstream, 'crown-pleasing' fragrance, but neither isn't completely inaccessible and challenging. It's fragrance symmetry with a few flourishes for interest. Classicism gilded with modern flair. From the top, we have this aromatic, somewhat astringent quince coupled with a plush saffron: sillage for days. Jammy osmanthus (perhaps a wee bit of the absolute with Apritone?) and a dash of rose oxide soon enters the scene, priming us for the supple suede leather. Here I feel like I am a leather book incarnate, and I kinda love it. It's as if I am announcing that I have some stories to tell.

This is reliably unisex and has a versatility that belies its style. For every season there's a reason to Galop. And for those hung up on performance: do yourself a favor and stop worrying. This one is meant as a sensual simmer for several hours. The Hermes minimalism (Nagel does follow the Ellena playbook quite nicely here) keeps the fragrance from feeling tired and nagging. Quite nice in my book, I must say...for a designer (wink).

Germany

Hermes is easy becoming my favourite house. The scents aren’t main stream , they are quality , natural smelling and transparent . High quality scents !
Gallop is no exception , it delivers so well. A gorgeous feminine fruity sweet leather scent. Along the line of LV Dans la peau and Mille Feux … slight similarities with black saffron Byredo .
Gallop is sophisticated, refreshing yet warm and sensual . I feel very elegant and put together when I wear the scent. It smells like old money . Gallop has a soapy powdery suede like feel , simply stunning . Many compliments with this one . You don’t need much , it’s highly concentrated pure perfume , it delivers Phantastic! Christine Nagel understands Hermes style well she is amazing!
I feel like I walk taler when I wear it !!

DoktorAdrenalin

Hands down, I love this perfume. The leather is not very prominent on me. It opens upp fresch with yusu before the sweet quince comes in. After a while the safron and rose is the mainplayers. Not a soapylike strong rose, but one that is mild and barely there. From this point it is quite linear and just lovely. This is a scent I wear at daytime, to work.

After the third test I bought a full bottle. It’s overpriced but I just had to have it.

Forbiddenjade

Second test - went alike the first: potent leather - truly, think of that of a saddle - with "paper" effect.

Drydown evokes the scent you'd likely smell in some ancient library where some unidentified lady had sat hours before, wearing her oldie worldie rosie perfume. While leaving she stepped onto the quince she had taken for snack in her (leather) bag. The drenched-in-quince bag now releases a scent that wanders in the library, like a ghost seeking the exit.
Rose is an illusion here. All you'll get is paper (that of mouldy, antique books) and quince that's too prominent.

Not sure I would want to smell like this. I prefer way more Kelly.

CaliBlonde

As a horse girl I had to have this. The name? The stirrup bottle? A must!

Kelly Caleche EDP is my signature. Strong rose & high quality leather. With Kelly I am at a horse show; my horse is groomed and I’m tacking up with an expensive new saddle. Smells like a wealthy equestrian lady.

With Galop I do not get such strong equestrian vibes. The scent is classy and feminine, but a man could wear this too. It’s fruity rose and leather. The rose is gentle and the fruit is not syrupy sweet. The leather does not hit me in the face with new saddle smell. The leather is not harsh or masculine. I do not smell anything animalistic or dirty. Everything is light and well blended.

You’re on a trail ride; it’s a beautiful sunny day and your horse is grazing under some fruit trees. Your saddle is warm in the sun. Roses are blooming nearby. That’s what I picture.

Low projection but good longevity. Stays on clothes really well. It’s definitely a love for me, but won’t replace Kelly as the perfect equestrian scent!

Callista25

The bottle is beautiful. Galop is an elegant rose leather, synthetic and linear but stil nice. Hermes is one of the traditional houses I haven't been able to find a perfume to get excited about. Their minimalist, synthetic style is the opposite to my preferences.

IndigoEye

The inital impression was of fruity rose - very nice - and the parfum concentration plays a role in making this feel sufficiently saturated in colour and not too pretty pastel. Then as time goes by the quince and leather come through and I am struck with how autumnal the fragrance suddenly feels. Is it just the unusual note of quince and my association with only smelling this in autumn?

Leather can smell very different so I will expand. It is not suede - not as soft and textured as that - but a soft, smooth leather. It is not the strong, black, stiff leather which can take a fragrance into traditional masculine territory.

The overall impression is very elegant, unusual, polished. A fruity, soft leather rose fragrance. I love it.

Update on longevity: I got 5 hours out of this after which only a very faint musk remained. I feel that, given it is an extrait and it costs a lot, this was not great performance. I could still smell it on my jacket cuff the next morning, though. Still it has made me hesitate on purchase having put a bottle into an online shopping cart...

brokesta911

Hermes Galop (2016) - Feminine Leather - @christine.nagel creates for the house a feminine side to leather that the brand didn’t have. Sure you have Kelly Caleche (more floral than leather), Cuir d’ange (angel’s skin), Eau d’hermes (leather jacket) representing a take on leather. While, Galop is painted starting with Quince, smelling like mushy pears. Yet it continues the story with Rose and Leather, smooth and Hermes-like. This “smoothness” shows graceful movement and a new take on leather. Unique.

leather and rose

theLady

If you want to smell like a fine sueded leather, this is your perfume. It starts out rather austere and delicate, then becomes more bold and less delicate, but retains a sense of calm smoothness and cleanliness.

It reads as sophistication. Polished riding boots, a pressed white shirt with gold cufflinks. Diamond stud earrings and a chignon.

brumbarche

On the kitchen table, we have always used to keep quinces as a fragrant centerpiece in the break of fall. That waxy quince (quince peel) is here, but blended well with woody saffron undertones, bringing forward a slightly dark velvety rose on suede. You don't get stables, mud, and rustic simplicity out of this. But something about it makes you associate it with the elegance of an equestrian tweed outfit and leather boots, on a cool day, around piles and piles of hay. It smells polished and clean (as in refined, rather than musky or soapy) and regal, like old money and natural deep modest sense of style. I love to smell myself at bedtime when I wear it - it is such a peaceful and well crafted scent. During the day, when I wear it, it makes me feel very serene, focused and put together. Although it's an elegant perfume, I always reach for it when I wear my jeans and ankle boots with one of my favorite fitted wool jackets (which I got from of Edinburgh - and somehow this scent matches the feelings I fondly recall from my trip to there and the castle). I have no way of knowing how a sexy equestrian feels, but I can't unsee/unfeel this in Galop and replace it with a more trivial olfactory interpretation. It is different from everything else and I love it.

Smells as if you laid out a piece of suede...smooshed some quince, some Turkish rose petals and osmanthus, with a splash of saffron into it really good. Let it sit, then smell the leather. That's this perfume. A bit fresh and animalistic at the same time.

polaroidcaesar

Clean leather smeared with a quince, rose, and osmanthus jam.

This is a restrained and elegant fragrance, like most from Hermès. The opening is tart and piquant, like taking a bite of quince cheese. The quince in this smells quite realistic. When I lived in Spain, I often ate quince cheese, called "dulce de membrillo", which you can spread over toasted bread, along with some manchego or farmer's cheese. Compared to the quince note in another fragrance that I own, Xerjoff's Dolce Amalfi, this is far truer to life, retains the sour quality of real quince, and takes a more prominent role in the composition. The initial mouth-puckering blast of quince immediately is mingled with a plush pink rose along with light wisps of saffron and a delicate buttress of osmanthus, which lends itself to the rendering of the fruit note and adds an ever-so-slightly exotic floral touch. Undergirding it all is the aforementioned clean, supple leather. The leather to me has a kind of "flow" or movement to it; in my mind, I can see an Hermès black calf leather jacket or bag folding delicately. Contrary to what some other reviewers have mentioned, this leather doesn't smell animalic or smoky to me at all. It is, in fact, one of the smoothest, cleanest, and most diaphanous (à la Hermès) leathers I've ever smelt. The image this evokes to me is of an elegant, professional woman, in her early to mid 30s, dressed impeccably in a black leather jacket, crisp white blouse, dark jeans, and perhaps a silk Hermès scarf. The time is mid-spring, somewhere in the Mediterranean (not sure if that's my own association but that's what I get) before the chill bite in the air has completely thawed but after the first trees have begun to push out white blooms and thick shocks of wildflowers have sprung up in the hills. There is a distance in this woman, an aloof air that has been adopted rather than arisen of its own will in her. Something inside of her still yearns for things to be as they were, but for the moment the frost that has settled on her remains unmelted, like the snows on the high mountains. There is no sensuality to this fragrance, despite the ostensible warmth of the notes. At its heart it is cold and inwardly drawn.

Because of this strong, crystal clear image I have in my mind when I smell Galop, it's not something I would wear as a man, though I do think that it is 100% unisex. Maybe it has been reformulated and previous batches were smokier, but even without the smoke, there's nothing in this that screams femininity per se. I find the performance to be lacking as well, despite the pure parfum concentration. This dies on my skin within about 3 hours, after which point it becomes sort of a vaguely musky blob. The opening is so beautiful and so unique, and any fragrance that can evoke such a pure image in my mind as this one can is no doubt class perfumery. Nevertheless, the exorbitant price, measly performance, and mental image it creates makes Galop a no go for me. Still, it's definitely worth a try. There's not quite anything else out there that smells like this, despite the "Smells Like" section declaring that this is just like Myrrhe Églantine. It's true that the rose note in Galop and the one in Myrrhe Églantine are related - that same pink, plush rose. But that's just about all that the two share. Their vibes are completely, wholly, totally different, and Myrrhe smells quite a bit like other fragrances. Not so with Galop.

Rose + leather. This pure perfume disappears from my skin after 2 hours. I have a 2020 bottle. When I tried it at a shop when it was just released it smelled different from the bottle I have; it was strong, bold, even pungent, and I was smitten, but the high cost had put me off and I didn't buy it. I think the product has changed over time (lost quality) and I have lost interest in it, which I find very disappointing. I find this product expensive for its value but I still find it a cute synthetic fresh, even cold fragrance, a bit soapy, and that needs a lot of sprays to even get noticed.

Smells like money.

I like it ;)

I don't usually love suede or leather scents as I don't particularly want to smell like a handbag. But this is very refined and elegant. Classy.

loved the Galop tester at the department store, initially a beautiful non-smokey and very clean suede that rapidly transforms into a smoky leather mingled with a subtle rose. couldn't actually smell anything fruity or citrusy at the time. just really unique, doesn't remind me of anything or any other fragrance at all. oh and lasted 36 hours, only disappeared after a second shower on the second day.

then things kind of went south, puchased a refill bottle from Hermes boutique because it was out of stock at department store, and it smells like a completely different fragrance though still very unique. this time it smells like quince jam, slightly tangy, the smokiness has been reduced by several degrees, no beautiful suede opening that i really loved. AND longevity is really disappointing, probably only 5-6 hours and then i can barely smell it on my skin. the refill bottle reads "pure parfum" btw...

i wonder if i leave it for a few months or years, it will evolve into the tester bottle version that had less than half remaining and the SA also said they rarely show this perfum to customers... makes me think that bottle might have been opened years ago...

Sherihan

Testing a sample vial from the perfume counter...it says PURE PERFUME, so it means it must be the real notes intended by the nose. The rose here is very subtly orchestrated, usually rose gives me kind of a headache...or small migraine, here floral notes hidden a bit, like Chanel N5 hiding them between the lines. I think the nose wanted men AND women to appreciate and wear it...to me it is so modern and really an Oriental (the Arabian Gulf side of Orient)...the type of leather is very similar to the one contained in Chanel N19, in a way that it is clean and classy, not dirty or too animalic. The fresh citrus notes makes it an all day perfume, from sunrise up till down.....is it my style? No...it is so dry, no small touch of simple sweetness. I see it nice worn by little boy kids.

Edit: after around 15 mnts the rose note came very prominent, maybe after the citrus evaporated a little! It is started to give me headache too.

Galop d’Hermès—what a glorious parfum! Yes, more a suede than a leather, but what a beautiful suede it is, sensual and supple, fused with a rose that’s been brightened with the fruitiness of quince and osmanthus. The scent conveys a sense of contentment, optimism, and above all, quiet elegance. If Galop is related to any equestrian pursuits, well, the rider must be atop a pegasus, high amongst the clouds.

Plus, that bottle! Gorgeous, constructed with the precision of a watchmaker.

mariceltroitino

This is a very interesting fragrance to say the least. Be aware that it is a Parfum, not an Eau de Parfum, and so one to two sprays is more than enough. It is very long lasting, too, but the sillage is moderate. It is not a perfume I wear often because I tend to dislike how it smells, though occasionally I almost like it. I would argue that it is not how most women would want to smell, nor how most men would hope that they do. But it still has a place in my collection since it is remarkable and unique--unlike the endless releases of overly-girly, Barbie-like, characterless scents of other designer houses. Surely, this is for a bold woman and though I haven't exactly received compliments while wearing it (though I have hardly done so), I still can envision the leather, bitter fruit, and spark of rose combining with one's body chemistry and resulting in a sort of sexy trail (given that the sprays are few of course--I personally do one spray at a time). Though it is somewhat heavy as a result of the intense leather note, a single spray could still work well in the heat--maybe even on a hot night--and I must add that as it develops after an hour or more, some sweetness does arise. It is a classy scent, definitely, and one that is perfectly unisex (to me anyway). Galop is hardly "feminine", despite being marketed towards women, though like I said it could beautifully suit a bold lady who embraces it. It could compliment certain men wonderfully, though some may prefer a different type of fragrance. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this. It belongs in a collector's selection but it likely won't get much use, as it is not very versatile (unless the owner REALLY enjoys leather scents). It is quite expensive but it is very high quality and a Parfum from Hermès after all. If you want to smell unique, airy but also animalic in the most long-lasting and elegant of ways, this is for you.

gtabasso

very soft and powdery with the hint of citrus, hint of saffron and hint of osmanthus in the top then a soft close leather; this is a wisp of a scent, not a powerhitter, not real floral, just a kid glove on a spring day

StrawberryX

All I can smell is leather, stable and horse shit combined.

Tim Wilcox

This is an odd one. I have enjoyed this fragrance, spraying it from time to time from the Hermès concession in Manchester, England and it's always been on my want list as a creamy soft rose that's not really that leathery unless you count the very finest ladies' kid gloves: not that I'm averse to a skanky leather being a fan of Leather Oud, Cuir Cannage and Bandit. It's always been very pretty, luxurious and unctuous when I've tried it before. As it was again yesterday when I gave it a spritz from the concession thinking 'Too expensive but maybe I'll find it cheap one day'. Then to my astonishment when I walked into another Manchester department store to check if there were any budget Guerlains in the sale there was Galop on the first stand I looked at reduced to just a THIRD of the price. Boom! Bargain of the century. I bought a bottle and rushed home in anticipation smelling my right arm on the bus and probably fairly wafting it around the other passengers too. Home; cellophane off; spray; strongly bitter fruit smell; no rose but maybe leather poking through eventually. I kept comparing the two samples hunting the rose till I was anosmic. Today I went back to the Hermès concession for a cheeky second opinion (helps that I have bought stuff from them too) and the perfume rep who came down from the office confirmed that my bottle was genuine but on handing her two strips I'd sprayed with their bottle (half full and stood in strong daylight) and mine (new out of the box but probably been in warehouses for years) she confirmed there's was softer and lighter and the bottle I'd bought was darker and denser but definitely genuine. Again I have the two samples side by side and they are performing as yesterday now maybe 5 hours after being sprayed. If I bring both wrists together and smell both I get a perfect balance of the rose, the leather, some soft musk and the tart citrus. I have yet to decide whether to wait a few days to see if my bottle softens and keep it or return it (as it was bought from a bona fide department store that's not a problem). At £57 it was still very cheap and bottles do change after being sprayed a few times so we'll see. So, finally,if you like Galop beware of jumping on offers of cheap bottles on eBay which are now cropping up. As per my experience you might not be getting what you thought you were getting and it might be fair to say that this perfume is in some way unstable. There are better representations of suede out there too such as Tom Ford's excellent Ombre Leather and much classier roses for less money such as Ormonde Jayne's Ta'if for instance. In fact maybe I should layer those two and see what happens...

Update 10 Feb after spraying over three days the fragrance has attained the correct balance. Meanwhile Hermès sent me a leather chord which otherwise only comes with Galop if bought from a Hermès shop.

Forbiddenjade

This is vile. At a hefty price tag too.
The quince just ruins what could have worked in this concoction. Way too much and it dies down too little, too slowly.
Drydown evokes the scent you'd likely smell in some ancient library where some unidentified lady had sat hours before, wearing her oldie worldie rosie perfume. While leaving she stepped onto a quince she'd taken for snack in her (leather) bag. Its scent wanders now in the library, like a ghost seeking the exit. Rose is an illusion here. All you'll get is paper (that of mouldy, antique books) whiffs.

I don't understand why anyone would want to smell like this. Yes, it's a "posh" scent, but for rooms (!) not people. Talking of "filling a room", this will get you noticed for sure... all for the wrong reasons!

Guess I'll stick to my vintage Chanel N19, Diorissimo and the less vintage Kelly. It appears to be the only one fragrance Hermes got right (aside its colognes).

Unimpressed, not to say shocked.

PS: this is anything but feminine.

Try before buy, at risk of being highly disappointed if you don't.

MonHabitRouge

This is a beautiful fragrance with a refreshing quince note in the opening and an underlying note of leathery saffron. The rose blooms in the heart and makes the perfume a true Oriental, quite close to Middle Eastern fragrances at times in the middle. The leather note which undergirds the fragrance and takes centre stage after the rose has bloomed and wilted is superb and lasts on skin for hours and hours.

However, for all its beauty and intensity, I don't feel it is something I would reach for often, which is why I will not be buying it.

SailorV

I got a small decant of this as a gift in a swap, and when I tried it for the first time I wondered why I had always ignored it and why you don‘t hear much about it compared to other designer fragrances. Then I googled it and saw the price and the very limited distribution channels. Oh. That‘s why. I would have thought Galop to be a main line EDP, not some crazy expensive pure parfum.

Nevertheless it smells really good. I love fruity leather fragrances and it‘s just that, a feminine leather with fruit and roses. A relatively clean and easy to wear leather, but still kind of natural and not totally polished, especially in the opening where the spicy saffron is still strong. I get the a strong rose in this, which starts out fresh and juicy and becomes jammy and delicious in the drydown. I wouldn‘t have guess that this contains quince, more of a general autumnal fruit mix - but to be fair, I never eat quince so maybe I‘m just missing something. This is a fragrance that has a nice opening, but a really great drydown. All in all, this smells very much like the color red to me.
It could be the posh older cousin of Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss. I can’t confirm that this is a light scent, it’s close to the body like pure parfums tend to be, but it lasted overnight for me when I sprayed it in the evening. If this was in the same price range as Twilly or the Jardins, I would maybe get a bottle of Galop, but for >200€ I find it too simple and not special enough.

dcjimr

I sprayed quite a bit of this on at the Hermes boutique today. Gorgeous and I would say more unisex than some of their allegedly unisex fragrances (but then, as a man, I am not afraid of rose). Suede (more than leather), rose, and some fruity notes, but everything is so soft as to be barely there. As someone else said, maybe I, too, am anosmic to this scent but within an hour I couldn’t smell it at all, whereas other scents I had sprayed on were still going strong.

Houdini4

I'm revisiting a ton of fragrances from the classic designer houses at the moment namely Hermes and Chanel to reassess things that I really should own by now.
Gallop was one I came across that I never got to upon it's release but the bottle definitely intrigued me and I've only just realised that it's shape is supposed to be that of a stirrup. duh! haha
Anyway, I'm someone who gives the accord of leather such a broad ranging spectrum I'm inclined to incorporate even the least leathery, 'leather' into it. However, I'm not sure Gallop can be included? but if it was... maybe it has a vague undercurrent of floral/leather? If I said Knize Ten that would be misleading but I'm burying my nose into it to get what the kind of leather could be? It's more that than anything but if you have to stretch that hard to find it, the accord is clearly not prominent enough.
So the main body is the opening notes of what I was going to describe as a watery fig like note, but not fig and apparently what I'm smelling there is quince, so there you have it. There's a light whisp of rose and a hint of powdered florals.
I wasn't hugely taken with it, but Gallop is fresh, clean and doesn't seem to resemble much I've been exposed to so it's worthy of another try I think.

IndigoEye

Jumped on the tester of this to try it out. Surprised me by how fruity it was - you don't get nice quality fruity florals these days. Emphatically feminine opening, I would say. As time goes by there is a sense of very buttery, soft suede but this is certainly not a leather scent at all. Now I am enjoying a dark and honeyed rose with fruity accents - absolutely delicious. Projection does not seem big but I only sprayed on one wrist. This was a very pleasant surprise and I want to go back and apply this a bit more liberally tomorrow to test further.

goliatrgs

It seems that I found my signature for summer. Hérmes Galop, yes marketed for woman but IMO definitely unisex. Not leaning a little feminine because the rose or masculine because of the leather but unisex just in the middle. Reminds me of my Latin-Spanish roots, I used to play in summer near quince and oranges trees in the countryside riding horses as well. The leather is not an animalic one but an orangy Spanish suade, with a fresh citrusy fruity little bit sour and sweet quince, and all the composition surrounded by a subtle and elegant rose. Is a very elegant and mature perfume +30, I like it for summer when you are bored with those sticky citrous aquatics scents. As an Extrait de Parfum projection is not too loud, it's transparent as MFK aqua line with a persistent sillage and lasting power. Well done Christine Nagel and thanks for the memories

Coquita

Just tested it yesterday (a hot spring day here in Spain) and I enjoyed it very much, although it was not what I expected.
On my skin, the first spray opens with a very pungent scent, like the liquid used to tan the leather, and then it quickly tones down to a very realistic suede, like the smell of a new handbag, for about an hour. Next, the scent shifts its character while it progresses. It progressed from dirty rose to juicy quince, to spicy rose, to fruity rose, to leathery quince, etc. Around 3 hours after applying the scent settled to a sweet, almost juicy aroma. It reminded me of Organza Indecence, although this one doesn't have plum nor amber, so I guess it's the quince and the rose taking protagonism. At this phase, which lasted about 12 h on my skin, is VERY perfumy, and the leather is pretty much gone. I've been around horses all my childhood, and this does not smell like galloping in the wild (check Kelly Caleche for that), but more like a fancy equestrian tournament.
All in all, I wouldn't call it a leather perfume. It has a very realistic suede accord, but most of the time, it's not one of the main notes. It's a pleasant fragrance with excellent sillage and lasting power that gives a very elegant vibe. I'd say it probably works better on early spring, late autumn or winter, as the dry-down could get cloying in hot, humid weather.

I don't get any leather or suede or the like at all.

This is a very "perfumey" perfume.

The notes mingle well, hardly recognizable. It starts with something extremely pleasant, maybe it's quince, but it's certainly not fruity or juicy;

if the rose is here, then it only serves to add color to the whole work, not as a stand-out note;

I also get whiffs of honey-tinged sweet note at first half of the journey, maybe osmanthus maybe not, but soon it loses its character;

The only thing I can recognize is sweet saffron, start out weak and getting more obvious later, but even at its strongest point, it's just a polisher, adding sheen to the whole fragrance without manifesting itself.

The leather or suede is nowhere to be found, unless we have a completely different idea about what is leather: the whole scent has a smooth texture, maybe that's what they mean by "leather" ?

the Smell of Derbyshire

Isn’t it amazing how perception of scents completely varies from person to person.
I was curious of Galop and blind bought a bottle for a bargain price hoping for a slightly sweet, dirty rose tinted leather number.
I’m male, straight, 36 years old and am not adverse to a sweet feminine leaning scent so I wasn’t really concerned about this being marketed as a female fragrance. I was also encouraged by all the reviews stating the leather note was strong and this could easily be unisex.
There’s no doubt this is a beautiful fragrance but to my nose there is nothing masculine about this whatsoever. I barely get any leather at all. I get a beautiful deep, sweet but dirty Rose but after an afternoon on my wrists there is no way I can pull this off.
It would make a beautiful present for a lady of a certain age but it’s not for me I’m afraid.
I risked it based on the comments and reviews I’d seen but the risk hasn’t paid off this time.
Any men considering this I would say absolutely wear it for a few hours first.
It’s entirely subjective and I guess some men are getting a lot of leather but to me this is not even close to being masculine or even unisex.
It’s a really classy, well put together scent with some great presentation but it’s definitely marketed at the right sex.
Luckily I can easily sell this bottle as I paid nowhere near retail for it and I suppose I wouldn’t have even bothered if I wasn’t getting it for such a bargain price.
You win some you lose some.

LadyPilot

Really strong and persisting leather scent, perfectly masculine despite being apparently female-marketed, colonial in a way. When smelling this, I see and elderly, male flying or travelling medicine doctor with this old-style leather doctor's bag, at least 30 or 40 years ago, attending to his patients somewhere in the Australian Interior or in Africa. Yes, some flower notes are noticable but the leather note is very strong, dominant and ever present. Amazing longevity and silage.

psebi101

Mouthwatering combination of quince and osmanthus with a sparkling rose. Now that is how you make a fruity floral which brings a smile on my face! From underneath all this, a fine buttery soft leather is adding some character; the leather is borrowed from the amazing Cuir d'Ange and I am happy about that. The heart is still pretty and it's focused more on the flowers (especially on the rose) while the osmanthus still brings a bit of freshness. I don't get any leather in the late dry down but I do get sort of an expensive rose soap feeling. I'd say this is unisex leaning a bit feminine, more so in the last part. It's a lively and happy perfume.

Wow... A phenomenal scent. Like others have said... Unlike anything else out there. The quince blends well with the light leather and rose combo... Wonderful.

- In the vast sea of sweet wine I dreamt of rose shaped pears and horse-riding - ★★★★★

A very strange yet exciting fragrance. Opens with syrupy sweet and juicy pear/quince note that almost recalls pear liquor. Rose is also prominent from the start further contributing to the juiciness with its thick jam-like sweetness. However, this rose is stripped from the fresh leafy green aspects and stays dark red from top to base. Almost like the rose-honey scent of phenyl ethyl alcohol (or acetate) but something is different here. A synthetic abstract rose nevertheless. Leather here gives me the imagery of horse stables but not in a dirty animalic way. Saffron contributes hugely to the earthiness and bitter-nature of the leather accord which translates as a very photorealistic cured leather impression. The sweet boozy pear, jammy rose and leather combined gives me the notion of a sweet red wine such as madeira or port wine – highly sensual and sophisticated accord indeed.

Galop is kind of rosy but not in a romantic way. Kind of sweet yet bitter, earthy and grounded. Sensual but also serious and realistic in its leathery stable impression. Heavy when you think about it but ultimately feels kind of light on skin. All in all, a very linear one note fragrance but a great one. The type where you know what’s coming you every time you go for that wrist, but you just can’t figure it out.

You get properly dressed....spritz a few sprays of Kelly Caleche on you...then spend time in your barn..with the horses/saddles/sawdust...re-spritz Kelly Caleche...then have wild sex in one of the stables...afterwards, you climb into the back seat of your brand new leather clad Bentley....and take a nap. After your nap,you tidy yourself up, and go to the nearest pub for a Gin & Tonic, then later you Galop off back home and sit by the fireplace before going to bed.
You have dreams of: leather, hay, dust and something dirty-ish animalic...and the booze...and of a single rose.
You wake up the next day and visit the Hermes shoppe and you discover the bottle of GALOP....and you are reminded.

BTW: I LOVE THIS SCENT !!

floral08

Extraordinary...It's a huge love for me. If anyone is looking for an edgy rose with an attitude, you should try this. I have to tell you that leather is very dominant but the beautiful Turkish Rose, osmanthus and saffron are balancing it perfectly. It's a unisex perfume leaning towards feminine.

And the presentation is 100% exquisite, what one expects from Hermes. You are getting what you are paying for, both the juice and the box.

Longevity is above average, long lasting and sillage is an arm's length. I personally can wear it all year round.

damienthoresson

I feel like I either sprayed a tester gone bad or I'm almost completely anosmic to this fragrance. Now, the leather was there. I immediately thought of horses & Hermes. It was detectable. I tried the parfum, which may be why it sat SO close to the skin. It was almost inperceptable, though. I liked the smell, quite a bit. I just wish there was even more. I sprayed about 4 sprays and waited around 4 hours and all I got was a very faint smell of the aforementioned qualities. Wouldn't mind having a 30mL of this, same for Cuir d'Ange ... but perhaps not the big bottle as it'd be a waste.

My partner agreed that it wasn't overly strong and he smelt more musk than leather. I smelt both, but the leather was what made it an Hermes in my mind.

StellaDiverFlynn

Upon spraying Galop d'Hermès, the three main player of the fragrance - quince, rose and suede - gallop towards my nose right away. The quince exudes its rosy, ripe pear-like succulence, enhancing the delicate, honeyed sweetness of pink rose petals. The suede employed here, like previous reviewers mentioned, reminds me of the same plush, slightly cumin-tinted suede note in Cuir d'Ange too, with its supple texture occasionally evoking turkish delight along with the tender sweetness of rose and fruits.

Galop is overall linear during its 8-hour longevity on my skin, with these three main notes rotating in and out from time to time and the vegetal muskiness becoming more noticeable about 3 hours in. The osmanthus and saffron sit at the intersection of fruity quince, spicy rose and suede, and they behave more like extension and overlap of these notes among themselves. The sillage is mostly moderate.

Compared to the Hermès fragrances released during Jean-Claude Ellena's tenure, Galop d'Hermès immediately feels richer and more saturated in colour. But at the same time, it's still lightweight enough to fit into the modern Hermès sensibility.

This continuation in style (relatively transparent aesthetics) with a more personal touch (with a more saturated palette) is promising in theory. However, certain aspects of Galop's execution left much to be desired for me. The main culprit is the syrupiness of the fruity note, which at times largely overshadows the rose and the excellent suede note. Moreover, when the tanned aspect of suede is mixed with the strong sugary fruity sweetness, it renders the fruity note somewhat more synthetic, which is not in accord with the luxurious image and price tag of Galop.

With its large portion of sweet, frivolous fruity note providing an easier entry point, Galop would have made an excellent choice for those who enjoy fruity floral gourmand in general and would like to start the exploration of leather/suede note in perfumery. However, with its limited distribution and high price tag, I'd hesitate to recommend it over other more available options on the market.

A great unisex fragrance!

miracleborgtech

Very unique, and unexpected leather scent. Made by Christine Nagel, who created Jo Malone's Rock the Ages collection. It's leather, but with an accompanying bright fruity rose mix. They smell equally good, and compliment each other well. The leather is a great simulacrum of riding tack, and the rose accord would stand alone as a floral. Together they create a bright cheery leather that reminds me being in the winner's circle at Churchill Downs - a winner's wreath of flowers and fruits bedecking the leader, with rich leather reins draped over it. It smells expensive. Easy to wear, good sillage and longevity on my skin. Quintessential Hermes!

Cams

This is leather and rose combined to perfection! It creates a sensual aura that floats around you relentlessly, but its class and sophistication all the way! Christine Nagel is doing special things with Hermes and I'm ready to follow her wherever she leads. Try this one, its unforgettable.

I’m at Heathrow Airport, my favourite place for fragrance testing binges. Nine out of ten times I will find here scents that I cannot find anywhere else, including exclusive ranges, limited editions, brand new releases and whatnot. I’ve been curious about Hermes Galop for quite some time; but now that I’ve tested it, I’m rather underwhelmed. It’s a soft leather scent that dries down to an undefined musky sweetness. It is pleasant, but way too unremarkable for my liking (and waayyy too expensive when you consider that it offers very soft sillage). I guess the idea behind this fragrance was to reproduce the smell of a Birkin bag; so, wear this if you cannot afford the actual Birkin bag, but you want people to think that you have just taken it off your arm!

woodlandwalk

This is a moderately powerful Hermes, silage-wise. I'd also say sophisticated and feminine - maybe due to a powerful rose and noticable osmanthus which gives that soapy bright floral (rose) and peachy softness (osmanthus) combined.

The leather is noticable up front - dry, slightly suedey and very nice, but it does fade a bit into dry down after an hour, lending a softly animalic background.

Mostly what's wafting up from my arm is rose. The osmanthus and suedey leather give it a ladylike aura, almost vintage in feel, I think.

If you can imagine a more feminised Cuir de Lancome, more powdery and a little more sweet, that's quite close.

To compare to Dzing! I'd say it's more floral, more classically feminine, probably less sweet.

It speaks of a well groomed woman, I'd probably prefer something a bit more casual, less 'money' in feel, maybe more unusual, but this feels very good quality

Silage and longevity good - moderate.

Utterly beguiling! Galop d’Hermès exudes a lavish sense of adventure and sex appeal marking a new direction for Hermès, but one utterly in keeping with the brand’s finessed aesthetic.

Sparkling on initial application with juicy quince, barely-there orange and overripe blackcurrant, Galop quickly, and seamlessly, reveals the rose at the center of its composition. Riding atop the blackcurrant, the rose brings contrast to the plush freshness of the quince with a smoky, jammy character akin to black tea. It’s not long before saffron makes its presence known, taming the fruity opening and hinting with its characteristic dryness at the leather to come.

Galop d’Hermès is a fragrance of two halves, rose and leather, and it’s in the early dry down that this becomes most apparent. Here, a luxuriously soft leather (almost suede like) darkened by rose and tainted with saffron envelopes the composition with a delicate dry warmth. All the while, white musk hides in shadows, radiating quiet sensuality and tension as it does so.

Certainly unisex, this has been described as “sexy” on my skin by several women.

The extrait’s exceptional quality lends itself to 10+ hour longevity with moderate sillage.

For me Galop d'Hermes is the smell of the Kentucky Derby winner (leather, dirt, roses). It is a special fragrance. I have and love Kelly Caleche and was afraid it would be too much like it, but it is absolutely not. I love Galop too!

Blowfishes

Just a small note: I'm not really into horses, but surely this bottle design represents a stirrup rather than a bracket as mentioned in the above description...

It is my new love. I love only few oriental types of fragrances, it is one of them. The opening is a little plain, and within could minutes, the opulent, seducted rose starts to bloom. The leather is nice, and does not dominate. I can smell some bergamot/citrus here. There is some sweet note in drydown, probably amber.
I don't see resemblance to Armany Si, nor to Kelly Galeche. I had KG, and it does not have the airy quality of this perfume. It is a galop, this perfume open perfectly to show it.

Rebelyell

Packaging = important if giving is a gift ('though I bought this for myself). The Galop bottle is handsome and heavy and feels wonderful in the hand. Good looking enough to display, though the glass is clear so better to keep in its purpose made pouch (made from the same thick chevron fabric as Hermes bags come with, drawstring included). The leather cord is not just decorative but pulls off the fairly weighty cap and the pump gives a very satisfying fine squirt. Upon purchase you get to choose the colour of the leather cord it comes with, these coordinate with classic and seasonal leather offerings from the leather dept, I chose Bambou, a fresh, lively green. The box is robust and pretty much unisex.

I don't think this fragrance is just for women, neither in the packaging or scent, in fact not many women I know would want to evoke such a force of leather on another being. Even the rose is on the dark, musky, bitter side. The opening is a full strength, in ya face Barenia leather curtain and straight into an August garden of ripening fruits and dry heat (saffron?). Very gentle musky scent in the dry-down, I had to ask a 'friend' if he could still smell it (elbow pit) 6 hours later. I don't think that's due to a lack of longevity but familiarity of the wearer.

When a horse gallops, all four hooves come down at once 'bang' and then are picked-up in unison. If a photo is taken when the horse is 'en l'air' the horse is captured actually flying. Hermes of course rode Pegasus to the underworld and back. Galop could take you to another world, something darker remains and lingers from your experience even when you think you're safely home.

This is Christine Nagel's line in the sand, demarcating the start of a new era for Hermes. Galop is a very different beast to Jean-Claude Ellena's unique 'soft focus' creations for the house, with accords of leather and woody rose announcing themselves boldly. Nagel still nods to Ellena's fruity freshness, however, with notes of juicy kumquat and apricot-like osmanthus. Bold yet light, Galop is truly unisex, although it is likely to only appeal to those who are fond of prominent rose. Personally, I'm not hugely fond of Galop, but it makes me excited to sniff what Nagel creates next. Overall, it's a refreshing change of pace from Hermes.

chinook

It opens with a splash of fruit, smells like a young and successful woman. It's sweet and energetic without being too sporty. The heart feels more sensual with sweet, powdery floral. The base is kept cool with leather, which adds a touch of abstract to this otherwise mainstream, easy to wear perfume. The leather doesn't smell real leather, just a mix of coolness that doesn't really smell like anything real. The musk is very noticeable in the end.

Gemini12

This perfume takes me on a journey as it progresses. The journey begins with me riding a horse on a sunny day through a field of summer grass. When my ride is complete I spend a long time cleaning the saddle, harness and other leather items. Finally I relax with a fruity drink in my flower garden with my leather riding gloves sitting nearby.

I can't say that I've ever smelled a perfume with such a prominent and strong leather note. It's quite the interesting and unique perfume and for that I give it high marks. You definitely won't smell like everyone else when wearing Galop! Easily unisex, although the drydown may be a bit sweet for some. I won't be buying a full bottle, but I'm glad I've had a chance to test this one.

Eva Wu

Not sure about untamed beauty and all that, but this is definitely a nice fragrance (and a nice change of pace for Hermes).

For the longest time I had associated Hermes to those "Jardin" perfumes which, while pleasant and well-made, all kind of startjed to smell the same after a while. So hearing that they'd hired a new perfumer, I thought I'd give them another go.

And wow! This IS different! It's far more leathery than I expected, almost like a girly version of Farenheit. It's got a nice autumnal, rosy shine to it, and gives an overall impression of a chic, perfumed leather bag.

It's a lovely piece of work, and should suit nicely all those smart, bookish Hermes girls I see running around New York, looking flawless and untouchable <3

Enjoy! ;)

Galop Hermes is a luxurious leather scent along with some fruity and floral notes. It’s perfect for any special moment in both day and night time. However, I cannot imagine how long and deep if it just came in edt and/or edp, because I found that its longevity and projection are quite moderate on my skin. Anyway, Galop is a masterpiece of leather fragrance which I recommend for those who love a leather scent or a scent from leather products.

edooardo

A naked vampire riding a wild horse.

This scent meets you where Jean-Claude Ellena have left you and brings you to the Hermès' sumptous night.

The fragrance starts like a tiny little drop of red watercolur ink, ethereal. Within the sunset it becomes darker, revealing its exotic soul, like a 1001 nights tale that was never told.

Osmanthus gives it a creamy facet, but it isn't so obvious, it is the journeys beverage, the pink yak's milk for whom is thirsty for amazing adventures.

It's very unique and surprising.

Nothing of the same. Truly vanguardist.

A brave fragrance with high quality and noble ingredients.

9,5/10 After all, horses doesn't always walk under the bright sun.

I first found it a bit rude, a stinging fruitiness in the top-notes , but at the 2nd try I quite liked it. The start really is a bit harsh, but it fades to a well constructed, though sensual rosy beige suede leather and it lingers softly very very long.
The style and structure differ strongly from those of JCE (at least I find)..
I don't know if I would spend over 200 € for it, but if it was possible to buy it in a smaller bottle, I would.
And btw, the design of the bottle I find a bit too posh and senseless.

iamoir

Out of this bottle comes freshness, pure cleanliness and at the same time dirt and rubber. I'm rolling on the grass and then my nose is sniffing some old notebook where i kept notes back in university, realistic paper. His drydown consists of all these scents plus the following which is

the best part: I enter my grandpas car, leather seats inside. Twenty years ago and I was reminded of the scent because of Galop. Leather leather leather. Real leather. This is it. Galop is ten times harder than Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta, if you have given it a sniff. Bottega Veneta is clean, soft leather gloves maybe, Galop is male leather. For that, I think he's unisex; seriously, men can easily pull this off.

Citric opening, then it's a hint of sweet, is it the saffron? Still it's not prominent. Quite honestly none of the notes is prominent except LEATHER. Now that I'm informed of the nose behind the perfume, Christine Nagel, I'm impressed she didn't use pink pepper( which i have noticed in some creations of her, yet again don't quote me on that); I would love it with pink pepper too! True leather that intensifies more and more as you wear it.

Projects for the three first hours and then it becomes more of a skin scent. It is then when Galop starts to fade slowly and become Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta. I'm willing to wear him on his own, but also very eager to layer with other perfumes. The leather is so strong that he can't be overshadowed.

A scent strictly for grown ups. Not because he's too heavy, or reminiscent of old-time perfume. But because he's mature in a serious way, belonging to a serious person, man or woman, not to a giggly lady of Fruity berry coconut from bath and body works (nothing against them, but you get the point). Galop is hard, somber at times, has the I'm-grown-up-and-I-know-what-I'm-doing expression on his face. I refuse to believe Galop is female, he is male.

Rubbery car tire leather freshened up with paper forgotten in a library alley. For me a haunting scent. Yes, I love it.

orpailleur

The top notes of a rarely edited association between quince and rose opens for a strange ballet of the distinctly female turkish rose and strong (male) leather. An amazing game, long lasting and captivating!
Regarding the price, I bought only the refill of 125cc for roughly the same price as the 50cc bottle. Therefore, for an extract of this quality, affordability was not really a problem for me.

glamgirl

All I smell is leather. Not for me.

Alex1984

They say that when a perfume suits you and you enjoy it, it simply works. The sillage is good, the longevity is good, it feels simply good wearing it. They say so, or am I saying so?

I didn't have high hopes for Galop, and frankly I wasn't even interested in trying it, mostly for the price which is around 240€ for 50ml pure parfum. Plus, even though Hermès is quite elegant and distinctive, I'm not a fan of JCE, nor his transparent aquarelle signature. I feel that a house with such history could opt for a bolder trademark. But I'm afraid that belongs in the past with legends such as Doblis, Equipage, Bel Ami, Caleche...
No matter how good or bad the reformulations, the quality is there but something is not; boldness.

And surprisingly I found it in Galop.
First standalone creation of Christine Nagel, it clearly follows the path created by Ellena in transparency and watercolor but it adds something more; a kick.
While following the codes of Hermès, it adds a bit of sensuality, and shows that the nose behind follows the path but leads the way. And that's a good thing because Nagel isn't Ellena, and her creations have to show that.

Galop opens on my skin with a rose water accord. Rose water that smells honeyed. I would have preferred a darker rose, but then again I'd also have preferred many things that aren't allowed in perfume today.
Rose water, middle eastern style but without the cliche of oud, spicy saffron in small quantities and a leather accord that brings to mind older but not vintage Cuir de Russie, with a somewhat dirty soapiness, a facet of leather sometimes found in older creations that didn't rely on isobutyl quinolene. I don't get the quince and the osmanthous is barely there, just adding a slight juiciness in the same way Ellena's creations added a watery note. (The Nagel difference?)

Although quite linear, I find it interesting. The interplay is between the rose dominance, the leather dominance, and a spicy ménage a trois that shows different facets during the day. I get the same notes along a nice not-so-clean musk that appears during mid development and stays throughout, finally showing a bolder leather at drydown.
While modern and pleasing, it echoes the older Kelly Caleche and manages to smell elegant, slightly dirty, and appropriate for most occasions. It feels as a timid first attempt, but underneath it there are some interesting aspects that make me look forward to what mrs Nagel has to offer in subsequent creations.
On my skin, there's excellent sillage and all day longevity, which I appreciate given the price asked.

Don't approach it expecting a powerhouse because it is not, but there is something that shakes the image of the house a bit, and I'm sure it's just the beginning.
Perfectly unisex (at least in Spain it's being promoted as such) and work friendly.

Galop

(+)
1. Smells fantastic
2. Unisex
3. Pleasant and uplifting leathery scent
4. Really nice bottle
5. Unmistakably Hermes and is still very JC Elena
If you like the Jardin series, you should like Galop.

(-)
1. Crazy price
2. For parfum (extrait), this has poor longevity

I don't get this perfume. I tried it briefly in a store a few times so maybe it is not the best way to evaluate its quality, but I was disappointed each time. I especially don't get the bottle. the metal looks cheap, the cap makes no sense as the perfume stays open even if you close it, and there is something really unappealing about a perfume bottle in the shape of a stirrup, something that is usually dirty and where your muddy shoe goes in.

Yesterday i was visiting our main deprtment store and finally saw this creation. I didnt know the notes so my review is purely based on my senses.

First of all - can we take a moment to appreciate the bottle???!! I mean, c´mon, isnt this one of the most elegant and slee desings EVAH????!! I was so amazed and stunned by bottle, i instantly forgot about the smell. i could hold it in my arm forever, it feels sooooooo nice.
So then i spray it first onto the paper blotter and there was absolutely nothing i could smell!Literally forthe first couple of minutes i didnt smell anything, so i needed to go back and spray it ontomy wrist. Same story at first - nothing!! By literally after a 5 minutes the notes started to show and evolve. Slowly, shy but they appeared, and let me tell you, this scent is a scent of a highest quality new leather handbag, being polished, cherished and stored in proper conditions. I mean, it is so simple but so charming smelling. It is not strong offensive leather i have experienced before in other perfumes (thank you for not giving us another leather oud mix this time), this is like a cousin for Kelly Caleche that i also have in pure perfume but this one is more shy and delicate, yet quite strong. What i like about this scent is that while it is very delicate it is very much present there and surrounds you with a cloud of leather scent. It is actually very much unisex, even probably more masculine, than feminine, if it wouldnt be for the drydown, where we have a beautiful rose. But it is a long way until the drydown (lasting power is easily 10hours on me).
Some things are better kept simple.
My biggest complain: price! 200+ euros for bottle and 300+ euros for 125 ml refill bottle. Out of my reach sadly.
Beautiful, harmonic, elegant, unisex!

Neckromancer

No...no..no. I don't like it. The leather is bitter, and combined with the rose, it becomes very dark, cloying, and headache inducing to me. The rose is a jammy one and it's all very Arabian attar-esque, but full blown leather. And this scent never softens! If you like this one that's great because it lasts forever! I'm giving it to my boyfriend. He loves it! I honestly think this should be marketed as unisex.

cumulnimbus

I didn't enjoy at all the wet fruity and leather first stage. I'm afraid it smells just bad to my nose. Though the dry down is an elegant luxury soft rose leather, I like perfumes of which I can enjoy all the trip. I much prefer other leather perfumes of this very same house, which by the way, fortunately, I don't find similar to this one.

I also find the price is too high for what you get, if the concentration is that of extrait in this case, I must say that it doesn't perform as it should, it gives the same longevity and sillage which you can get from most of eau de parfum.

A pity, I really expected to like it :(

Bretto66

This is the second really 'girly' offering from Christine Nagel.....nice enough but does not have the wow factor you would expect from her first major release....I am expecting to see a masculine perfume as the next venture.

Update::::just looked in my local dept store....$275 for 50ml and a refill of 125ml for $250.....at this price Galop d'Hermes is going to be a major flop for the house.

mypersonalharmonics

It is half Tuscan Leather / half Kelly Caleche. And a 3-stages perfume...

Spray. A Very deep, intense leather note. The opening almost doesn't let you feel any other note.

Later on, it gets shockingly terrible. The luxurious smell becomes the vivid smell of new car seats made of fake/plastic "leather".

And then, surprise again, many hours later, it's the drydown that reveals the floral notes, some blushed rose, even some fruitiness.

More masculine in the opening, more femminine in the drydown.

Insanely expensive, since it's "pure perfume" concentration, not EDT or EDP. 271 euros per bottle in Greece.

little parrot

My first impression is that galop is a feminine fruity-leather perfume. Especially the quince is very prominent, unfortunately on my skin I hardly detect rose. So I don't get the Hermes communication that this fragrance is all of rose and leather.
The position at hermes perfumes is between the cuir d'ange (violet powdery leather) and Kelly in edp concentration (rose-flowery leather).
The next day its smells more like a saddle but still with a quince on it.....
It's a different take on a leather perfume, original but not quite my taste.

The bottle is in real life beautiful (at least if you like your perfume in a stirrup model bottle) with a magnetic cap.
You can choose between different colours of leather cords on the cap (black, blue, green, orange, red, brown and white)

edit: only during the introduction it comes with a leather cord!

Phantosmia Bella

Tried it yesterday, while sniffing out for new goodies.
Initial blast is strong and acidic, but soon enough you get very soft, rich and pampering suede (sorry, not leather but suede, at least to my inexperienced nose). Rose notes blend in quite beautifully and wave in and out, so you get a rather dynamic scent.
Quince was not very prominent, it's probably the main actor in the citric opening though. Saffron? well, maybe, but more as a sidekick for the rose.
I loved it and would have bought it, even though it's really pricey, only I already have some very nice leather/suede perfumes, and also (a more important and also far sadder reason) my daughter really hated it, gagged at it and said it smelt of play dough (hubby half-heartedly agreed on last comment) :(

gfp

developed too metalic on me. but never the less i am not a good example since, as much as i tried, the hermes perfumes somehow do not agree with me :-(

nitschevo

Initially this smells like a high-end equestrian shop. Leather and scented saddle soap (read Quince, rose etc.). But the leather is the main player here. On paper the pure perfume last literally forever - my purse still smells of it! Also on paper it stays very bright and citrusy while on (my) skin it also develops a hay note. It also has a powdery aspect to it, quite hard to explain. I like it but it's not the big love I expected. The bottle and packaging is gorgeous as usual. Will try the EDT and EDP as soon as I can!

Roshap

i agree (as usual) with henri. galop smells synthetic and too fruity. quite a disappointment, especially compared to hermes other spectacular recent floral leather cuir d'ange. vuitton's dans la peau (released at pretty much the same time as galop) does a better job of capturing rose and leather, even though dans la peau does not even have rose as one of the notes.

TakaBeata

Warm, bright, fruit, leather smell. Nicely is developing on the body. Not dark scent. Rose with Quince give nice and hight bright :) Very much, very much expensive.

Taliera

To me I was disappointed Hermes didn't "gallop" in a new direction. I am so used to beautifully blended citrus, rose and leather combos from JC Ellena, that while I did enjoy this very much, it could have been so much more. Also, what's with the pure parfum coming out before the EDP and EDT? I'm feeling extorted - once again, by the Hermes house.

KitKat

I am liking it based on a sample I got. what is the price in the usa? Where is it available for purchase? NM?

JoeMacchiato

Lightweight rose with a leather base. It's in the same vein with Kelly Caleche, both being rose/leather centered scents. Not that they smell similar but the style definitely shares some DNA.

The leather in Galop is very close to that in Cuir d'Ange. I don't understand the pricing. It costs even more than the Hermessence line.

gatsby

totally different from what I expected as a Hermes fan. Nothing spectacular, nothing innovative or at least distinct. The rose/leather/quince is one of my beloved triangle but i swear I detect no quince an no (quality) leather in it., smells way fruity on me and the saffron is terrible chemical. Linear, predictable, not lasting as it should a Hermes be. Even the bottle is a Mauboussin wannabe... Disappointed.

smellagent

I am glad I ordered the sample. I hope this is not a sign of things to come with Hermes. It is not that it is horrible but it has some issues. It is supposed to be a pure perfume but behaves on me more like an edt. When I saw the name Galop I was expecting deep oily leather. I sprayed it on my arm and the biggest thing I get is thin sharp lemon or quince. I smell a sheer veil of leather that disappears after thirty minutes. I smell no rose, no sweet, and it is not warm spicy. It lasts a while but I was not excited. I will pass on this.

Kolchan

It's a weird one for me, in the beginning all I could smell was citrus and a bit of suede. Then a couple of mins later, rose entered the scene, however the rose I smell in there is very fresh and gentle, just a hint of the future flower.
To be completely honest, I expected lush red and sweet rose on a suede base. And I got a sour, citrus fresh rose with a little bit of suede in the background.
Somehow it reminded me of JCE style. Very transparent and light. I agree with antonpan that this perfume is not a breakthrough for Hermes.

shalimaraddict

I really wanted to enjoy this scent. The bottle is great, the scent has been signed by Christine Nagel. The notes sounded interesting. Right off the bat leather dominates this fragrance. It's not musky though, it's bright and strong. This is a pure parfum, so it feels smooth and behaves fairly well. Sadly, on me, it reeked of urine. It was a surprise to me as I wasn't quite sure right away what I was smelling, but urine is the best I can describe. Try it on. I did find that once it developed on my skin, it was really beautiful hours later. The beginning was too harsh for me though.

genny17

Got my sample, and I will not buy a bottle..Galop I thought might be masculine, upon smelling it, I am 100 % right!! Top notes are dry, harsh, and masculine...I don't know why this is labelled as feminine, as it doesn't have an ounce of femininity...must be a marketing thing...
the leather is like there from beginning to end...never does it become smoother, or softer...to me this is so awful I won't spray on my skin...it smells like cheap fake leather stuff !! ..really, I do not like it, even for a guy...!!
Now for the guy who likes horses and wants to smell like burned hay, that might work!!
Kelly Caleche exudes a soft feminine leather vibe..refined and feminine..
Galop smells of horses and the men riding them..
Not for me, and no, Dear God, nothing to do with Si Armani who is all in nuances and very feminine and gourmand!!

Ladypfefer

As I put the scent on the top notes that I detected was leather and lemon. It took 30min for the rose to slowly show up extremely nicely and as it settled on my skin the leather took a backseat and the quince, rose and a bit if the safran really stuck. I thought it was a spupringy light fragrance which you would not expect with the notes mentioned. It stayed on my skin for a good 8 hours and I would say the projection is mild.

antonpan

At a whole the new Galop smells as a leathery lighter version of Lancome Magnifique that was discontinued some years ago.

I can't say this is really something new for Hermes. Not a new a style, not far from Jour d'Hermes in terms of overall perception. Christine Nagel just rethought what J-C Ellena already created.

Galop is airy, leathery and spicy. Not sweet absolutely. I do smell leather of Cuir d'Ange, fresh spiceness and roses of Lancome Magnifique and ISO e super mixed together. Mature and beautiful, if you like leather.

samlovefragrance

Finally a new exciting concept and notes from a perfume house! It's been years since any major fashion house actually launched a challenging new creation not a flanker! Hope the smell is as exciting!

originaldeftom

WOW! Tested it today in the world's most famous department store and I can say it is rather unique, intriguing and so compelling with its semi-customisable packaging (the stirrup strap comes in half a dozen colours to choose from), that I want one as a (gay) man AND as a former Equestrian.

I swear I immediately picked up the "Si" Armani signature (that fruity chypre theme) that is unmistakably Christine Nagel's signature.
Here, instead of that infamous cassis note, she chose that semi-exotic quince accord: Genius!

Mind you, if I was mean, I'd say, save yourself a few bucks and buy Penhaligon's "Vaara" instead, with a more complex Quince story (and of that a really great one), but I must admit the notes between that suede, rose, saffron, et al are very well balanced and juxtaposed.

Truly a remarkable modern, different, pungent, exciting new effort for Hermes, whose juices I previously found rather bland, watery and somewhat insipid.

Seems to me, perfumer women, are all the rave at this present moment in time.

Also, as a small equestrian trivia side note: the gallop is a 4 sequenced gait (with a flight phase, whereby none of the horses legs are touching the ground), so perhaps that could be the reason for the 4 notes being listed here? Miss Nagel, please elaborate!

Verdict: Fantastic 9 and only because it is missing for me the horse dung/ barn note that I would expect from a truly equestrian perfume.
Good sillage and for Hermes standards rather long-lasting.

ARMANI "Si" now has a new flanker, I mean a NEW COUSIN!!!

adrian.meeks.35

Sniffed this jewel last night at Neiman's and was very impressed with direction that Hermes took on this scent. Its very unisex, the men's counter is where it was shown, giving that it states "for Women" but that's a very misleading statement. I tested several that night but this just stood out as something different and coming from Hermes that was a plus! Its very boozy starting out then in minuets it takes flight with the rose and leather notes showing off the fragrance...Saffron does round out this scent along with the suede and rose coming together to really put this scent into outter space. Price point is around $210+, the bottle is really a nice as well....

Mas777

It could be similar to Kelly Caleche?....

cleo cupcake

Galop - not a very elegant sounding name.
