Making it Make Scents

I accidentally bought this buy mistake online ( I thought I was ordering Jasmine Wisp) . Let me tell you, it is NOT for the weak or faint. This is Morticia Addams. It's sultry , mysterious, and odd... You need a lot of confidence to wear it, you need to be the leading lady in the room if you're going to wear it. Don't wear this around sensitive people but also, who cares, you're Morticia Addams, remember?

Story time: My love affair with Tom Ford's Black Orchid began when I was in Year 12. I'd never liked a guy my age, always seeming to find the older boys more interesting than the naive ones I was friends with. The Christmas holidays came around and my male best friend and I met up with a few other friends. He wore Tom Ford's Black Orchid and I began to see him in a new, manly light. Romance soon took centre stage to friendship and my first romantic relationship soon after began. Although we parted ways 3 months later deciding that friendship suited us better than romance, I was never able to part ways with BO. It became the fragrance I associated with masculinity. So much so than when I was in my 1st year at University, I suggested it to my 2nd boyfriend as the fragrance that he should wear, and also bought my new male best friend a mini (and he's always had a bottle of BO in his collection ever since).
Unfortunately BO seems to have fazed out from being the fragrance most men prefer to wear, but I have always been enamoured with the scent, even tried and failed to wear it myself (BO + my aura = mismatch).
Then La Yuqawam came along and finally I smelt a fragrance much like BO, but unisex enough that I can wear it with my lovely dresses and not feel like I've borrowed my brother's cologne.
Others have described this fragrance in great detail, so additional input in that arena, is not necessary. If there is anything missing in this fragrance vs BO, it is a smooth, full bodied expression of truffle. But if it was here, this perfume would lean too masculine.

TRUFFLE LEATHER floral magic! An opening burst of bergamot, incense and nutty gardenia (not listed) deepen into an orchid & chocolate truffle heart resting on a creamy sandalwood & tropical ylang base. This beauty lasts for hours spawning gourmand wafts of indolic florals. There is also a suede vibe here from the musk et al. A little goes a long way with this beauty.

Contrast to Black Orchid Tom Ford:
Although there are mixed opinions about whether this is a dupe of Black Orchid or not, to my nose (and I've had Black Orchid since 2015 so I know the scent pretty well) it's a dupe with a good approximation of the scent profile and impressive beast mode performance. They have the same orchid-chocolate with a suede vibe, although the drydown gets just slightly more tropical than Black Orchid to my nose. Performance of LYF is probably superior, but I've had my bottle of Black Orchid since 2015 so difficult to say for sure. It's also possible that reformulations of Black Orchid don't smell the same.

Comparison to To Be Camouflage Pink Police:
These are different scents, and it's probably a fluke, but I am testing them side by side and on the skin they are very similar. In both openings I get a chocolate gardenia with orchid. In the dry down, I get hazelnut in CP but not in La Yuqawam Femme.

Comparison to Rosewood Banana Republic:
There is an overall similar vibe here, although LYF is a little richer and nuttier.

Overall: A guilty pleasure, it's a love for me. Enjoy!

Seriously, I almost never react like this, but usually want to find something redeeming inna fragrance. Byt this is bad. Bitter yellow flowers in a mischmasch of weird smelling incense and cinnamon. Also there is something mentholated in the opening and I can usually enjoy that, like in a tuberose that does this. But here it’s bad. Like sour breath that someone tried to hide with gum.

I love the spice and vanilla. That's the main scents my entire family picks up. I've never smelled Black Orchid to say if it smells like it or not but the quality of this perfume is great. It comes in a nice box as well to store away from light.
I would repurchase. Thanks intenseoud. (USA customer)

Not for young ladies and do NOT spray around people with perfume allergies.

This Is nice!

Similar to Black Orchid but more grapey or fruity in my opinion

It's nice but still very dark and thick like BO

Not really a safe blind buy unless you know you like Black Orchid. OKay for Value for the scent but can't speak on the longevity yet as I haven't worn it enough to know

Overall I'm happy 😊

Some perfumes have to sit for awhile. I purchased La Yuqawam pour Femme 2 years ago. Back then, I thought it was pungent and harsh, like Black Orchid. Now 2 years later, I am wearing it on a warm, humid evening (80F). The creamy yellow floral aspect has finally emerged. It still smells like Black Orchid but so much more mellow and warm compared with 2 years ago. Sometimes, perfumes need to "mature" to finally become all that they can be. It is quite lovely.

One of my aunts, the older sister of my father, used the most perfect perfume I've ever smell. I have no idea which one it is; in fact, my perfume collection started because I was searching for her perfect perfume. That amazing essence impregnated everything she touched, and it mixed with all the gifts she gave me.

Anyway, once she gave me an used copy of "Little Women", that, until this day, smells like a mix of very old paper and her perfume. That's exactly like La Yuqawam smelled on me the first three times I tried it.

Not the best combination of my aunt's perfume... and not a new smell, at all.

It isn't a cheap perfume where I live (almost as expensive as Black Orchid), so I tried for a fourth time. I don't know if it's the specially cold day, or the fact that I finally get used to it, but now smells amazing. The projection it's no so strong as I was expecting, but the smell is divine. To me, after the strong opening evaporates, smells strongly to incense, but very sweet, a little powdery; really elegant. I like it, but I'm still a little scared abut smelling like old paper.

It’s very similar to Black Orchid, but Black Orchid it's in a whole another level of perfection, that this one doesn't reach.

PS.According to the Rasasi website, this are the notes:

Top: Iranian Saffron, Raspberry, Egyptian Thyme

Middle: Cinnamon, Ylang Ylang, Brazillian Pink Pepper

Base: Indian Sandalwood, Amber, French Black Truffle, Patchouli

Judging this on its own, without having to look at the notes pyramid and without comparing it to black orchid, La Yuqawam pour femme at first spray on skin bursts of the somewhat more floral and a bit citrusy (some might think this as feminine) and then lingers as an earthy-smokey-like creamy scent (now comes the masculine gourmandish scent) which is very long lasting.

The drydown still lingers after showering. Very potent.

Am i the only one who gets a beaver note during dry down ?

I love Tom Ford Black Orchid (original formulation) and strong scents are great but this was overwhelming, overbearing and gave me a terrible headache. At first I quite liked it but by the third time I tried it, I had worked out where the headache was coming from. I tried using it as toilet freshener but the smell permeated the house and I couldn't stand it. It has a strong fake orchid smell. I sold my bottle. Do not blind buy!!

I just received my bottle and this is gorgeous and, like others have mentioned, very similar to the infamous Black Orchid, that I love wearing from time to time in the Winter months. I am a huge fan of the La Yuqawam line and purchased the Femme version for my girlfriend. There are slight differences (not major) between the two fragrances (similar to how La Yuqawam Femme is ramarkably different but slight different than Tuscan Leather) but I'll have to spend more time with it. Big Love and I will update my review later.

Update: I got to compare these side-by-side recently and, while this fragrance is similar to Black Orchid, my girlfriend and I feel that Black Orchid takes things to another level in quality and performance. The orchid and floral tones are simply amazing. Regardless, La Yuqawam Femme is still really, really nice.

adice

Yep, agree with other reviews here. This is a nearly exact dupe for Tom Ford's Black Orchid (at least I couldn't tell any difference.) I wore this and a sample of black orchid on each arm and couldn't have told you which was which if someone else had sprayed them on.

stereoscopic

Just got a sample of this and I agree with the reviews below. This is Tom Ford's Black Orchid 1-on-1. I am surprised how few people know about this, compared to the male version of La Yuqawam. This worth every penny you pay for it. I might have to get a full bottle of this.

DMS162002

This does indeed smell very similar to Black Orchid but I would not say they are identical. I love both fragrances but Black Orchid is definitely a "darker" scent and to my nose creamier but less sweet than La Yuqawam. I find La Yuqawam to be gentler, sweeter and with a grassier undertone. So, despite some initial similarities to Black Orchid, I would still say La Yuqawam is its own scent. Surprisingly both sillage and longevity of La Yuqawam are much better than Black orchid--and Black Orchid is no shrinking flower.

I'm really happy with both fragrances. For me, Black Orchid is the essence of a confident woman on the prowl, assertively going after what she wants. La Yuqawam by contrast, is a woman pursued, surrounded by admirers but almost unknowingly so. Since few women are solely ever one or the other, it's nice to have both to fit whichever mood strikes.

In BO incense is very important, but as i see, in LY incense is not in the olfactory pyramid. So, how these two are so alike? Is there any incensy smell, or not? Please, leț me know, I couldn t find a tester..thank You!

RitaV2

Smells exactly like black orchid. It is a good choice for people who want Tom Ford BO with lowest price.
Sillage and longevity are great.

Indigomama

Very close to Black Orchid at some point but much much better, in terms of concentration and longevity. La Yuqawam smells a good 8 hours on my skin whereas Black Orchid was gone by midday from both my wrist and my sleeve.
Not sure whether that was a fair idea to put on the market something being so close to a top-selling product but really, this is an improved version at much lower price. I purchased two backups while I could find it cheap. Will probably become my signature scent.

anisavrabac

100% Black Orcgid but longer lasting and less than half the price... Not my favorite but worth every penny. Expensive smelling... Identical to black orchid
