Noice

Dark, warm & spicy rose.
Never really got the "Cafe'" note... Cafe' Rose though.
But honestly, with a scent this good I couldn't care less. 🤷♂️

FutureKiwi

It is fair to expect a bit of coffee from a fragrance named 'Cafe Rose' - but it has a very shy appearance here. This one is closer to Chanel's Coco Noir than to Montale Intense Cafe. Which means: no gourmand experience. It has a surprising kind of freshness, no clue how it's possible with incense on board. It's not what I craved (coffee & rose) but I like it, it's ideal for the winter. I chose this for Christmas this year and I feel classy!

LoveBitch246

I am a rose and Tom Ford lover, so I like the scent itself, but it is SUPER strong and instantly gave me a headache ☹️
Before scrubbing it off I noticed a fresh rose, not jammy, in addition to powdery facets, incense, and subtle coffee.

I have 2 bottles of this, anyone interested can PM me

I get a lot more rose and pepper than coffee with patchouli coming to the forefront. It is a nice rose fragrance but I was hoping for a deeper/darker and more earthy or roasted scent combination with the coffee (since cafe is in the title). I guess I expected more or different from this particular house and as a private blend. Personally I just don't love it especially at this price point. I saw that there was one listed as a new release under the same name of cafe rose this year. Has anyone compared it to this version, curious if they improved upon this or changed anything?

RottigrlNYC

One of the first purchases I made from Tom Ford in 2018. Such a beautiful rose coffee ambery perfume. Dries down to such a lovely scent. I do have a 100 ml back up bottle new in box, full presentation, for sale if anyone is Interested. I went thru a crazy phase about 4-5yrs ago where I bought backups of every perfume I loved. . Then as my collection grew to over 500 bottles, I realized that in 5 lifetimes I’d never be able to wear all this . So I’m hoping they’ll find good homes where they’ll be loved and used…..100ml is ALOT of fragrance.
PM me if you want to buy my back up bottle. New In box full presentation

Definitely more rose than coffee, as many others are saying. Rose is probably the only thing I can smell, other than a slight twinge of black pepper right in the beginning. It's really nice, but you can get something very similar (if not the same) for far cheaper.

Enikom2

This perfume is a dream! It has good sillage, longevity. Its exciting, strong, but not overpowering at the same time. The notes are perfectly blended. Rose is not very strong but it is there. I feel happy wearing this scent, anytime anywhere.

Lou3010

One of my most frustrated fragrances I own. I LOVE the smell. Starts off very coffee intense for me, then dries down with the rose coming through. The biggest problem, Longevity. For the first half an hour everyone tells me how great I smell. After that, it's GONE. Completely gone. I also have (and love) Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, whereby if i've worn it on the same t shirt more than once It needs a couple of washes to get the smell out.

In conclusion, smell 8.5/10, Longevity 3/10.

dlopeztt

I get more rose than coffee.
Nice but not nice enough for a full bottle.
If I want rose I’ll go with Moschino Toy Boy and if I want coffee I’ll go with Montale Intense Cafe.

JenAirz

I love this fragrance. It quickly became one of my favorites on first spray. I usually do not prefer rose scents but this gives me a certain special vibe when I wear it. Like I just came out of a bath that was filled with rose petals. It evokes a beautiful memory lost within my consciousness. A time of innocence. When magic is still a possibility. When flowers, insects, and even the moon used to be whimsical. Maybe it wasn't from a memory. Maybe this scent links to a fantasy. A place in my imagination I have not visited for decades. I am too tired and old to revisit. But I am happy to be reminded.

Nose for a bouquet

Roses and I do not get along, but I like this fragrance. The issue I have is that the cafe’ part gets lost. At dry down it becomes very faint, yielding a smoky rose.

lexxxms

Cafe Rose was the first “expensive” perfume I bought myself what feels like an eternity ago. At that point in my life, I was just beginning to venture away from my signature scent, “Jo Malone: Red Roses.” Cafe Rose was a bold twist for me, a darker profile than I was used to wearing. One I still love today! I smell a dark chocolate coffee with a vibrant heavy dose of rose. If I had to paint a picture or a scene of this perfume, I’d imagine it's a first date at a trendy urban coffee shop, roses hanging from the ceiling (it's a thing now), someone a few tables away from you is doused in “Lelabo’s: Patchouli,” and you’re sipping a semi-sweet Mocha, excited, but at peace, because the atmosphere around you is familiar, but there's something so exciting and new about the way it's all come together.

RAOqwerty

I was in a Neiman Marcus smelling some of the Fords on display. When I reached for a very large bottle of Café Rose, I did not realize it was a splash until it did just that.

It was a lovely but mild dusty scent of, as chelleholla put it, dried rose and creamy cocoa-coffee. The other notes were less individually prominent to my nose, and melded smoothly to support the coffee and rose.

So a splash landed on my foot and the floor. Mortified, I moved it around/mopped it up as best as I could with my foot and scurried out. The takeaway is the large bottles are not sprays and It lasts only 2 hours on shoes.

takema

The Tom Ford private line has a number of misses for me. Cafe Rose is one of them. I had high hopes for this one. I love the idea of the coffee and rose combo. That was the one part of the fragrance I did enjoy. Too bad everything else fell flat. On initial application it is dreadful, it smells like an outhouse on a hot summer day for about 5 minutes. The terrible smell starts to dissipate, but it doesn't get much better. While it no longer smells like actual crap, it is still harsh, sour and unplesant. After about an hour it finally smells like a really nice scent. Sadly it takes an hour on my skin for it to become the fragrance I imagine it is intended to be. It is a spiced jammy rose/patchouli scent with whiffs of bitter coffee around the edges of the scent and a warm spiciness from the saffron.

I found the performance pretty disappointing. The projection for the first hour is quite strong, too bad it stinks at this point. Once the fragrance starts to smell pleasant the performance falls off considerably. At this point the projection is very soft and disappears completely in about four hours.

Cafe Rose is unisex, but leans a bit feminine. The drydown of the fragrance is one I would wear in cooler weather, it feels a bit heavy for summer.

This doesn't smell or perform like a high quality fragrance. It behaves more like I would expect the cheap clone version of this fragrance to behave. Definitely not worth the excessive Tom Ford pricing, not even worth purchasing at significant discount. Although it eventually dries down to a nice fragrance, it is far to problematic to bother purchasing.

chelleholla

The overall impression reminds me strongly of TF Bitter Peach, if you swapped the juicy peach for a soft, dried rose. The rest of the overall background is the same. Not overly sweet in my opinion.

Lots of patchouli, incense, dry and dusty spice, soft dried rose petals, and creamy cocoa-coffee. This one hits me as unisex but more masculine. The rose is present start to finish but not as loud as the patchouli. The coffee lingers and is more prominent in the dry down.

Interesting but not a safe blind buy.

brandybasisty

Oof--one spray on my forearm is choking me out, like I'm deeply inhaling a burning stick of rose incense right under my nose. I'll have to experiment with spraying this further away from my face or walking through a mist of it. Well made with impressive sillage. I'll have to come back to comment on the longevity and drydown.

FragsNBooze

This is a nice fragrance but it's not very unique. A spicy ambery sweet rose. I love the initial hit but the drydown is very similar to many fragrances with amber and patchouli. Wish there was more coffee instead.

For a Tom Ford frag, I'll say 7/10. For a general rating, 8/10. Tom Ford has more interesting options.

Tam072822

My wedding fragrance! My husband wore Oud Wood and let me tell you, the two scents together were out of this world heavenly.

When I smell this, I think or a glamorous burlesque dancer, rougeing her cheeks before a performance and sipping on an espresso martini. Who wouldn't want to smell like that on their wedding day 🤣?

It's a seductive dark jammy velvet rose smoked with incense and amber. I get a faint lingering off coffee somewhere on the background bur it's the rose and incense that steal the show.

I always come back to this beautiful scent and smile.

sisina96rv

Oh, very pleasant rosy fragrance. You barely get the coffee, it is so mild and in a distance. There is really not much to write about this, the majority of TF's is quite linear. Linear, but beautiful. Yes, he has a bit more complicated creations, like White Suede... And the coffee here is not so obnoxious like in a Montale Intense Cafe.
So overall it is a very wearable, rather feminine perfume.

ABrigitta

This is my spring/summer signature sent!

msamber86

This is such a beautiful rose perfume. I smell it and pleasure courses through my body. It smells like a dark and jammy rose. It smells mysterious but inviting. All I want to do is inhale this gorgeous scent all the time. It’s a complicated rose scent, but if you get it then it’s like falling in love.

Coffeeandscents

Love at first sniff for me!!! The rose is balanced out with a hint of coffee and spices. The blend together makes the rose smell dark and velvety to me. I think this is beautiful and sexy. This is super long lasting on my skin about 8 hours. Projection is strong for the first 2 hours and after that someone will have to hug you to smell it but I get a lot of compliments. The rose in this smells so similar to the rose in Jo Malone Velvet rose and oud. It seems that I love all Tom Ford scents that have incense in the base notes. Truly dark and magical.

RottigrlNYC

Awe I love this one, it’s one of my favorites from TF. On me it opens very rosey, then about about 15 mins in the coffee shows up and it’s a beautiful coffee rose, then amber and patchouli show up. It’s absolutely beautiful but on my crazy skin that drinks up fragrances like it’s water, it only lasts a few hrs. That’s the only bad thing I can find about this perfume. I do have an older bottle, just a few yrs older, and I bought a back up, I tend to over spray. 7/10

Eshhthep

Honestly if your Muslim or from the middle east it smells like pretty much any attar.

jzryl

Smells like what @meama mentioned
Family commented it smells like shower gel

meama

Just a fresh spicy rose on a base of light amber and incense who gives a clean soapy effect. There is also a light violet candy note who brings a liptstick texture but anyway it has been done already a lot of times and in a much better way and a lot cheaper by other brands.

inkhorus

A chunky, purple, dark rose who would have straight-up smirked at Alice in the Golden Afternoon instead of even pitching a note.

PPAN

I got a bottle with purple label from 2013 and I'm so glad I could smell the COFFEE!!!

It's a beautiful rose-centric fragrance - the roses are fresh, dewy, realistic, but it's the spices surrounding it that make it really exquisite. I could clearly smell coffee, pepper, saffron and a touch of incense. Smoke, with just a little tinge of darkness. I feel like the original bottle fits it perfectly - the scent feels purple and brown.

In comparison to Noir de Noir and Rose Prick:

Noir de Noir is definitely different from Cafe Rose, because for me the truffle note in Noir de Noir is very noticeable and makes the whole thing much darker and ambery. Cafe Rose is fresher than Noir de Noir, but a little less fresh compared to Rose Prick. Rose Prick is much more similar to Cafe Rose, but with an added turmeric note that makes it more "prickly".

Hum_C

Very strong rose perfume. The incense and the black pepper brings a depth to this scent but I wish I could smell the coffee. It smells very fancy and on first sniff reminded me of Rose d'Arabie from Armani Prive. But you gotta be careful with how much you spray otherwise you can choke yourself! I made 4 sprays today and I could still smell the scent strongly throughout the day. Longevity is 8+ hrs on me.

kiddiemd

I had this and this made me feel nauseated whenever I use it on myself, but I enjoy it when I smell it from the bottle. I was thinking of how to dispose this bottle, as it was quite expensive, and I was surprised that my brother liked it. So I guess it is more of a strong, masculine scent.

kameron

Heady and unique, as a rose lover this is a win for me, maybe in rhe top 5 rose scents I ever owned. It s not a regular rose scent, the leather, incense and patchouli blended here in a touch of coffee and safron is simply beautiful. I am happy that this fragrance does not stay in the line with annoying rose-oud-fumé arabian classic combination wich I am fed up with. It is not loud, the sillage is very good and the longevity on my skin up to 5 hours. Thank you for this masterpiece mr. Ford. A love for me.

orangelips11

I love cafe rose, its a classy beautiful rose scents, but on my skin only last 3 or 4 hours, if the longevity is good, its a prefect fragrance

Wwoman

Like many rose fragrances I've tried, this is a very fresh rose when first sprayed, but very quickly morphs to include a little of the respectively spicy and earthy notes of saffron and patchouli. I'm not sure at all where the coffee is in this fragrance - maybe on my skin it just doesn't make much of an appearance. The rose and patchouli notes are super prominent, which is fine, but that's kind of the end of the story for my nose. I suppose if one just wanted a typical rose/patchouli fragrance this would do the job, but I'm honestly disappointed that on me that's all it is. I would strongly recommend getting a sample/decant of this before buying, especially if you are expecting coffee. It's just not a safe blind buy.

Kellergirl

Very disappointed, as this is all rose on me. Sadly, I smell nothing in this but rose.

correspondencepersonal

Rose potpourri perfume - a rich blend that settles into the skin rather than leaping out too much. This is truly beautiful. It blends well with my chemistry, although it didn't last extremely long on my skin. This has about 2-3 hours of wear, but the overall effect of it was a lovely perfume essence.

This is one to explore further, so far - I liked it very much!
This could possibly be a LOVE.

The only thing even close to this in my collection would be Avon's Velvet, which has more of a synthetic smell to it -- where as Tom Ford's Cafe' Rose smells more like a natural flower essence.

JamesMarsh

It’s a lovely rose scent. Much more youthful, compared to Noir De Noir. Very much an evening and cooler weather scent. Definitely more a traditionally feminine scent but it is unisex. Wish they did one of the 10ml travel sprays because it’s more of a special occasion fragrance than a regular wear imo.

CherryS34

The smell is great. It’s a deep rose with smokey woodsy base. If you LOVE rose AND smoke, you will adore this fragrance. I didn’t buy the Noir de Noir body spray thinking it was be close enough to the Cafe Rose but at a lower price point and it was disappointing. It was a very overpowering masculine smell that dominated any rose in it. Not for a gal like me. I had to return it. And after that disappointment, you can see why I would go out of my way to try another rose scent in person before committing dollars. Beware though, it is more smokey than rosy and pretty strong.

ckorp8

From the name I’d expect something like a bouquet of fresh roses in a café, namely fresh rose smell in the midst of coffee smell. What came up in my mind after smelling CR however is a picture of a whole shelf of vases filled with dried rose bouquets in a closedown café. Not that the smell is not good, but it’s dead strong and uncomfortable to me.

maddy.cucu

Like a mixture of POAL and Noir de noir. I own both of those so I obviously love Cafe Rose. Seems softer though, like almost prettier. Lovely job TF

ghkim

This is in the same category as Intense Cafe and Delox except here I can actually smell the rose, and it adds such a freshness to an otherwise gourmand fragrance. Really lovely. Not has heavy or thick as Noir de Noir.

Malifiscent

I am not a rose lover but there are quite a number of rose fragrances I love- it really depends on the blend. Cafe Rose is one of those loves for me. I will say though, the name is very misleading. I am actually glad that it is not another of those rose and coffee overly sweet gourmand fragrances, and I love it for not being so. I'm also not a huge fan of leather or saffron (sometimes), but it's so well done and blended here that it plays really well with all the other notes, which I find those two notes don't usually do. I actually almost don't smell it.

It is warm and heady, but has an oddly refreshing vibe to it that doesn't weigh the fragrance down too much and make it cloying. It is almost a soapy rose, with hints of gourmand notes that make it a touch sweet. The coffee is so faint, I wouldn't be able to tell it is coffee unless I was told so, but I like that it just exists to add a slight depth and dimension to the fragrance. Surprisingly a people pleaser, even to those who are not partial to rose scents, like myself.

Joseebus

What an absolutely gorgeous fragrance this is! A sweet, sophisticated, dark rose. The subtle coffee note is so delicious that it almost makes this frag gourmand, in my opinion. It’s truly mouth-watering. I feel luxurious wearing this and I cannot stop smelling myself.

Grey.ackerman23

Don't wear this perfume on the day! Wear it when you come into a party or dating with you boy/girlfriend on the night.
I wear this on the day and it give me a slight headache because the incense note is too strong and sharp (for me). But, when it dry down the smells is quite good because I can sniffed the soft and sweet rose, even I can't barely sniffed the coffee.
But overall: 6/10
I give it 6, because I'm not a big fan of rose

hsiangchi.huang

More acceptable than its close relative Noir de Noir. This is a spicy rose frag. Cafe Rose is not a good name for it cus I don't get the coffee...

JacquelineRenee

I love rose scents; however, this one really doesn't wow me. Am I in love? No. I am in like with this fragrance. In my opinion, it is a feminine fragrance. I could not see a man wearing this but to each their own. I definitely get the saffron in the opening... very leathery. The black pepper also steps in and lends the musty-ness to the leather which I actually find kind of interesting. I detect no coffee here. So what does Cafe Rose leave you with? A nice woody earthy rose scent. I must admit, I really like the saffron in this.

Is this a demure rose scent? No. I can see how this fragrance could be overwhelming to some. For some reason, I can only wear this one for an hour or 2 before I start to get a headache. Sometimes I think the spiciness actually overwhelms the rose and it gets slightly lost in the translation(at least on my skin). A very interesting fragrance, and if you love rose fragrances, I would suggest taking Cafe Rose on a test drive before you commit.

Flippi1

I so want to love this but just don't get any coffee at all - if I did would probably be obsessed with it , does it really have coffee mid notes ?

Ang.gom

LOVE LOVE LOVE

Beautiful rose with a small amount of coffee that makes it earthy. It is soapy, in a good way. It leans feminine in my opinion. The lasting power and protection are pretty good.

holocene

Not a fan of this at all. The first review below mine (and several others after that) mentions exactly what I don’t like about this, and that is that it turns soapy. Personally I find this too rosy to begin with anyway, and then dries down to rose soap. I am disappointed by this as on paper I thought I’d love it. Pass from me!

MoJo_JoJo

Smelling this from the bottle does it absolutely no justice. From the bottle this is straight up rose. On my skin it turns into a deep peppery smoky saffron/rose combo. Not much coffee. After about 30mins it turns a bit soapy but it is a classy expensive soap.

QueenieIrenie

I loved this one from the first whiff. I remember getting a sample of this alongside Neroli Portofino and Jasmine Rouge probably as far back as 2016 or 2017, when Cafe Rose was still in its original packaging. I love them all but I found Cafe Rose to be the most unique and best performing of the three. I had never smelled anything like it before. NP is gorgeous but to me it didn't smell unique enough or last long enough on my skin to justify paying 2-3x more than any other neroli or orange blossom scent I had come across. Jasmine Rouge is still on my radar, but Cafe Rose was the one that won me over instantly. It's a rich, warm, almost sweet rose. I always had a hard time picking up on the coffee but I know it's in there somewhere. From the comments below, it sounds like Portrait of a Lady may be similar, but I only smelled it on a test strip and can't remember what it smells like, so to this day, I still find CR to be unique. Since it's on the heavier side, this seems like more of a cold-weather fragrance, but it might do well in warmer weather too. I've always associated it with being a nighttime fragrance, but I just spritz a little less if I want to wear it during the day.

rinma

Disappointing for the price. Not a lot of facets, just an old fashion rose/ bathroom scent, especially since the coffee note is almost inexistent. I compared it side by side with Dyptique Eau rose, Rose D'Alexandrie, and others. Nothing special about this one that deserved to be in my rose collection.

ipreferthebook

Beautiful rose. I just purchased a new bottle, as I am nearing the end of my first. The juice in the new packaging (gold label) smells identical to the juice in the older packaging (lavender label) — Side by side comparison: completely indistinguishable; same everything, seamlessly blended. Perfection. ♡

clemmy

Sexy rose, round and not overpowering. A classy rose for a woman in her 30s and above. Wood in the drydown with some amber and sandalwood. Never been able to smell the coffee. Could be unisex, but I cannot see a man wearing that. If you love roses you cannot miss it. 4/5

c1cko

This perfume makes you really appreciate that blending fragrances to make a perfume is an exact art. Almost justifies the two car payments it takes to afford a bottle lol. I own two different dupes as well as an original bottle. For me, what's missing in the dupes can never justify the price of the original. Yes the original is in it's own level, but you don't hang an original Picasso in a guest bedroom. I'm a cashier, wearing perfume to either the Walmart I work or date night at Applebee's. If I wasn't gifted a tester, I'd never smell this in my life.
It feels like two perfumes in one: rose and saffron on one side, patchouli and pepper on the other, and incense, sandalwood and coffee making a perfect bridge between the two. Very unique, strangely delicious (sweeter than you'd think), and luxurious.

ginandrice

Warm and darkish, with a tangy, grassy woodiness. The rose here is dry and has a raspberry note to it. Thoroughly unisex. A bit evocative of barely-sweetened chocolate.

At its best I find Cafe Rose casual, but subtly captivating; an attractive man with his tie off and his shirt-sleeves rolled, seated in the recessed of a cafe, sipping an iced black Americano and periodically checking his watch.

I thought I loved this at first, but a couple of years on I find it a bit dry and sharp for my taste--especially given that most fragrances tends to come off drier and sharper on my ultra dry skin.

renonagasan

The opening screams three things: Patchouli, roses, and coffee. The coffee and amber blends so well with each other that it’s almost unrecognizable over each other. But together, they create that bitter, warm, and a bit darker background. The patchouli offers a green liveliness to the fragrance that really jumps right at you on the first spray. The roses here reminds me of the roses in Rose Prick (which I also own). It’s the creamy kind but never reaches the creaminess of the Rose Prick. Probably, if you take out the strong effervescent and lively patchouli, this fragrance could be mistaken as Rose Prick because of the prominent spices on top particularly the pepper. But I guess overall you could say this is a milder Rose Prick, but probably a lot more fun than Rose Prick. True to Tom Ford fashion, I’d say this is a formal event or date night perfume because this smells very rich, mysterious, sexy, and elegant. But I’m more of a “wear whatever whenever” kind of guy so I’d say you can go away with wearing this to the office; that patchouli offers a bright and lively green-ess, makes you smell like a boss, someone who knows what’s doing, just becareful with your sprays because this can go very dense very quickly after 2 sprays.

UPDATE: I finally got to give it a full day of wearing and indeed, the first 2-3 secs of spraying has this distinct almost sharp bitterness probably from the coffee mixing with the patchouli. But this is very beautiful, romantic, and definitely a boss perfume. You’ll be fine with 2-3 sprays. After that, it gets very heavy. I own a range of TF fragrances and this easily became one of my top favorites if not my favorite.

brandontemple20

Ingot a 2013 batch of this...makes me want to sell all my other rose frags. Absolutely intoxicating

PP_SS

i just heard that Cafe Rose going to discontinuous so if you want it buy it now or prepare your stock

hfiebert

Really love this scent but sadly, the sillage is very weak on my skin. I need several sprays for me to be able smell it on my own skin.

What everybody's saying about Cafe Rose

I did a little text analysis of reviews on this page with Python, here is the result:

KEY WORDS

After discard loads of useless stop word ("the","a","tom ford" etc.), the words used most often by reviews are:

within each category, ordered from most frequent to least:

notes:
"Rose" (no surprise on this one, no surprise at all),
"Coffee", "Patchouli", "Saffron";

descriptors:
"nice", "dry"(hmm...interesting), "sweet", "dark", "strong", "feminine", "spicy"

other perfumes mentioned:
"Noir de Noir", "Portrait of a Lady",
"Jo Malone"("velvet rose&oud", "red rose")

I hope it will give you a rough idea what Cafe Rose is like.

WHAT KIND OF ROSE?

Obviously rose is the diva, but what did it smell like in this perfume? Fresh and green (I doubt it), or deep and velvety?

I then tried to find which words is most closely related to the word "rose" (i.e. appear in the same sentence most often). Here are the descriptors I found, from most frequent to least.

"nice" (of course)
"old" ("old lady" alert?????)
"sweet" (this I agree 100%)
"spicy"
"feminine"
"warm"
"dark" (I was expecting this one).
"quality"
"heavy"
"powdery"
"deep"
"fresh"
"rich"

WHAT DO I THINK

The opening is oscillating between "fresh" "dewy" facet — a melon-tinged, muguet-alike "tenderness" — of rose, and its sweet, hard-candy syrupy side. a little sharp soap-water overtone at this stage, but negligible.

At some point they seem to reach a perfect balance, but then, the scale has inevitably tipped toward the sweet, almost-syrupy, hard-candy side.

Maybe an herbal-tinged hint of smooth saffron deep in my nose, but the rose is the absolute dictator, all the way to the end: I honestly don't get much variation in the scent, the tyranny of syrupy rose refuse any peaceful transition until it fades away.

denisa_iv

I discovered this perfume by mistake. I wanted a sample of Santal Blush and I only found a duo with this one included. While I totally disliked Santal Blush, I absolutely loved this one. It was very unexpected because based on the name, I had no interest in Cafe Rose. I expected some heavy coffee with just a hint of rose, on the gourmand side maybe, or at worst, some heavy, smoky, unisex fragrance with barely any rose there, something polarizing or heavier, more in line with other Tom Ford fragrances. I could not be more wrong.

This is a beautiful fragrance, with the rose note being the absolute star (I barely detect anything else, especially in the beginning) that leans very feminine in my opinion. The rose is loud and slightly balsamic, which is why I believe some people say it smells like an older woman. I disagree, I think this is a very modern interpretation of rose. For the most part, it smells like a beautiful, dewy rose garden in the early morning. It also has a powdery note, which made me think of Bulgari- Rose Essentielle, but TF is definitely superior. It's also different in the dry down when it becomes warmer, like a soft embrace, with just a little bit of rose left and some patchouli, it doesn't stay dry and powdery like Bulgari. At that stage, probably, is when other people detect coffee or cocoa. I couldn't say I smell one or the other, but it's probably there because the fragrance develops to a much softer and gentler aroma. If you like pure rose scents, forget about the name and give this one a try.

I liked it so much I will now be saving for a full bottle from an authorized retailer. While with some fragrances I do take chances and buy online or pre-owned, I personally wouldn't risk it with this one. It's not the way the notes are blended that makes this special or unique. It's just the quality of the rose note in it, which I don't think could be replicated well if you risk the bottle being counterfeit. This is just my hunch, 'd rather bite the bullet and purchase it from a department store, even though it's quite pricey.

I wore this for an hour before I couldn't stand it anymore and had to take a shower. On me the dry down was pure amber, identical to an amber solid perfume my mom had when I was young. Totally overwhelming and made me nauseated.

Rory1234

under my shirt we're looking at 10 hours longevity. And yes. The patchouli is lovely. I don't like patchouli I'll continue to wear it

Pilikins

Well this perfume certainly has a following! It is another perfume that I investigated as part of my cocoa and rose study (does not strictly classify but near enough). I bought it in the end just because it is so beautiful. The rose is deep but also very alive. It smells lush, as if is is still growing in the dark garden that Tom Ford imagined, and it is accompanied by other floral notes- I definitely detect some white flowers, very faint but there. However the rose is the enduring star of the show. But this not your dead Victorian rose. It is very much alive and growing in some unconquered jungle in Sumatra! It is very lovely and compelling. Likewise the coffee is not a sweet latte, it’s the berries themselves growing in the earth, juicy and slightly bitter. The fragrance is very wearable and is not overpowering. I am very prone to perfume migraine and this does not affect me at all. It feels like inhabiting a forgotten, tranquil and shaded garden, surrounded by deep rich blooms, woods and earth. It wears quite close to the skin and longevity is good. It don’t like Tom Ford perfumes generally, I find they are overpriced and not worth the money but this is very good. In regards to my original quest, alas this is not a good example of rose and cocoa! Also incidentally, I don’t agree that it is anything like POAL. That perfume is dry with a very strong animalic note, or perhaps a cumin note which always smells sweaty to me and is savory. Cafe Rose is sweeter, warm and not the least bit animalic, and is very vegetal and lush. In my opinion, CR is very superior.

EDIT: Six hours later, and the rose is still beautiful and voluptuous but it is not so lush. The patchouli has rolled in bringing a chocolatey smoothness (yes there is a cocoa note but not from cocoa itself) and at last, there is a deep expresso coffee note. All in all, it reminds me of roses and spicy Mexican chocolate- not sweet but fragrant, indulgent and warming. A sensory journey worth every penny in my opinion!

Ansarit

This and noir de noir are my two favorite Tom ford private blends. So luxurious, so classy, and so aromatic. This stunning scent will definitely get you noticed

Overall 9/10

JillValentine

This is easily my favorite Tom Ford fragrance. I am not normally a fan of patchouli, but the patchouli in this is to die for. Despite its heavy nature, I find myself wearing it all the time - hot weather or not. I don’t care. It makes me happy.
PS refrain from over-spraying, makes the dry down better.

utsavgo

Very similar to Noir de Noir, which is another lovely rose fragrance. I feel owning either one is good enough. However, like all TF frags lately, this one too suffers from bad performance.

Mikki15

Great fragrance. I can smell rose, cafe, amber, and spicy. Perfect blended. I had sample first to see if this scent is for me and I can say yes it is. I feel confident when I wear it. I love this perfume, but It could stay longer on the skin. Im using everyday from winter to summer. For me it’s masterpiece. Great job Tom Ford.

sofiadore

Suffocating and stuffy, chemicals and sharp rose.

This is a very unpleasant, headache inducing perfume-y perfume. It just smells like sharp perfume. The only thing I've had to wash off in ages.

EnergeticCrab

What a stunning fragrance. I don't really have much to say except you can smell every note and they are all perfectly balanced. Not a huge fan of the pepper but I can see why it's in there. A more elegant Atilier Cologne Cafe Tuberosa, if that is even possible. Could easily be someone's signature. Two people asked what perfume I was wearing when I wore this out for the first time.

theelectra

Smells just like Portrait of a Lady. I actually like Cafe Rose better than Portrait of a Lady because the coffee adds a more feminine and modern touch. Portrait of a Lady is too incense forward. I have one on each wrist right now comparing. Super similar scents!

jjoyce2

I didn’t buy this fragrance. My close friend bought Cafe Rose and I bought Lost Cherry from the Tom Ford boutique. And we swapped fragrances for a week. I tried this, and it smells so similar to Portrait of a Lady to me. That is one of the only fragrances I got a compliment on. This one also netted a compliment too.

This fragrance is ideal for fall and winter, and can work for all occasions if you go with only one spray. The projection is decent. It is only on the top notes that I can smell a distinction from Portrait of a Lady. There is a very faint coffee scent. But the coffee disappears very quickly, and the rose and patchouli dominate. Also, I prefer the rose of Portrait to this. This was sad for me since I think I would have enjoyed it better if I didn’t already have Portrait of a Lady. But if you don’t have that, this could be a good option if you like patchouli and rose. Make sure to test this out first because patchouli is one of those polarizing notes.

kml24

About three out of four times I wear this it smells like coffee and roses. Dark, warm, a little spicy, maybe not the most complex but comforting and nice for winter. Every fourth time or so, for whatever weird chemistry reasons of body temperature or whatever, all I get is a blast of incense. Maybe because I'm a little sensitive to the incense, I dunno, but I'm not sure I'd buy a whole bottle.

KylieBooFace

This is nice and definitely a "like." It opens slightly masculine/cologne-y, then you get a blast of rose with spiced undertones. The rose is almost bubblegum-sweet but nowhere near cloying. It smells a bit "green" too. I barely smell the coffee, which is fine. I hope this dries down to something femme on me.
Edit: This does dry down a bit less sweet/femme than I would like (maybe the patchouli/saffron combo?) but this is definitely a quality pleasant fragrance.

ReWeegh

Lovely, splendid, classy. Opening is strong coffee and rose with stem and thorns. At this stage and in the first 30 min it is unisex, occasionally saffron and pepper peeps out. After that it turns to a beautiful velvety, rich, enchanting rose and now with coffee undertone that just emphasizes the beauty of the rose. Coffee and rose here like complementer colors.
Rose never gets soapy, coffee never gets bitter.

It is a perfect flawless composition, rather feminine than unisex.

beatrix75

Beautiful!!!! Strong cafe and velvety rose. The perfect combination of the best value

Quiet Life

Exactly what it is : coffee then rose. The rose is smoky and dark yet has a soft side, not loud, not offensive, not boozy, but has something going on. It is simple, yet I find myself "craving" it like a cup of coffee in the morning. There might be tons of coffee and rose perfumes on the market, and this one doesn't feel special, yet I find myself going back to it.

sjtdz

fabulous!

my favourite tea shop is 'DavidsTea' and they use to have this tea called 'English Rose' which smelt divine and tasted divine as well

this is that in a bottle! i got a sample, so i'm happy happy happy!

Kots_Tanya

I’m not sure if I like it, to me it’s a strong rose with saffron and coffee grinds that have been used and were sitting for a little. It’s a bit too oriental I guess I have to say. I’m not sold on it, I have a sample will see may be it has to grow on me. I don’t think I’ll be getting a full bottle tho.

rayt

This is blended so good i can't really pick out the individual notes except for rose, but WOW, it's beautiful, a very fresh red rose, so realistic, a little spicy, not too overwhelming, it doesn't shout, and it doesn't need to. People will smell it on you.. but it will be very well mannered...

Ttt1

This is a very good fragrance. Although it gets very powdery. Not much of a coffee note on my skin, just a very nice rose at the beginning with some level of complexity and then it gets lost and becomes another of these “powdery” fluffy fragrances. The opening is very, very nice though.

domciok13

@Aurabella 30,50, 100 ml versions have plastic cap, 250 ml have glass ball drug store feeling

Aurabella

Think I may have bought a fake bottle reading the reviews, mine lasts barely an hour after spraying and I’m a heavy sprayer, also the cap on my bottle is plastic, for the price I would have expected it to be glass, can anybody tell me please what their cap is made of, thank you in advance.

stephanieklein

I was ready to love you. But, I'm still not obsessed. Kinda musty. I want to love it and am really craving deeper rose and leather so thought this would work. Pregnant sales associate said it’s the ultimate seduction rose ("What do you think lead to this?" she said, rubbing her bump), but it smells unshowered and musty to me. Sigh.

I might love it on a man though.

globato85

I was really hoping for this to be a coffee fragrance. Instead the patchouli and saffron were so dominant that I never detected any coffee. All in all, still a nice perfume. It's just not the fragrance I was looking for. Awesome longevity and decent sillage. I would definitely say try before you buy.

fashionista

When I think of Tom Ford Fragrances, I think of intriguing, exuberant blends. Unfortunately Cafe Rose is a departure from what I consider "typical" Tom Ford. Cafe Rose is lovely but I do not consider it as original as his other fragrances. It is a soft, soft powdery rose with gentle spice but not much else. I cannot detect coffee or incense (two notes which initially attracted me). For those that find Tom Ford perfume too intense then Cafe Rose is perfect. I prefer my rose with some "ooomph" so I choose Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud or Armani Rose d'Arabie over Cafe Rose.

Swedelish

I love Cafe Rose as a stand alone scent but I've been pairing it with Intense Cafe lately and the results are stunning! Both are exceptional rose, coffee scents in their own right, but where Cafe Rose is a little dryer, less sweet and spicier/leaning more towards the masculine side, Intense Cafe is amped up with vanilla and is very sweet as a result so the two together create the perfect balance of sweet, vanillic coffee and dry spicy saffron rose. Not a cheap combination but I suggest giving them a try if you already have both.

Edit: I've worn through several ml and every time I wear it it starts off strong, even abrasive, then quickly mellows out. This isn't a bad thing, I enjoy the harsh opening rather. After it dries down the scent stays mild and just right, hovering over my perfect comfort zone for the better part of 2 hours. This is the phase that keeps me loving it and is also the part where I start looking for bottles to purchase online. But then SUDDENLY it drops off into nowhere land and I can hardly press my nose up close enough to get a whiff! I mean suddenly! This is my process with Cafe Rose every single time and I don't understand. The issue isn't that I'm burning my nose out by breathing in the initial blast too deeply because I do give it a little time to "burn" before obsessively smelling my wrists. I haven't had this issue with any other fragrance before. It's not even a gradual fading, it's an instant shift from moderate strength to practically gone! And I don't know, maybe I go anosmic to it after a couple hours but I somehow doubt it. Very strange but I still love the scent.

nitishdixitchemical

Imagine in winter days you are sitting in rose garden on table made from African sandalwood. On that table you have placed a strong saffron fragrant candle and you are drinking one of the finest Ethiopian coffee. your friend sitting next to you just had patchouli spa and she is coming out of fumigation of natural incenses having very lite amber and spicy pepper notes. That's exactly how it feels.

Over all beautiful warm perfume . Love it so much

Pempipot

A very nice rose indeed, different and less "floral" then most, thanks to gourmand notes that make it noticeably darker (which is good if, like me, you aren't really into florals)

As many already pointed out, coffee is mostly relegated to the name, but the mixture patchouli/chocolate is indeed strong. Personally speaking, saffron is even stronger and makes the whole thing very spicy.

It's a nice composition, a bit more unusual... I perceive this as very "contemporary" and don't think that this smells "old style" or "grandma" but this is so very personal. It's not for me but a wonderful scent none the less!

HOUSTONHOUSTON

More refined and smooth Persian Rose by Pacifica.

My5Scents

A very modern fragrance. I can understand how some people over a certain age might associate the scent of roses with “old ladies”, but that’s not a reference that younger people would readily recognise - there can’t be any such old ladies still alive, they only exist in the memories of people over 40! This is a beautiful fresh fragrance and I hope everyone who’s interested in it can ignore all these “old lady” references, which are a barrier to enjoying a great fragrance.

malucent

I had forgotten that I disliked the sample of this when I tried it last year. I was browsing online and wanted to buy Oud Minerale, but it was out of stock so I settled on this since I was in the TF mindset.

First spray: "Oh yeah...I actually didn't like this and was glad I didn't blind buy back then. Damn it."

A day later: "It's tolerable I guess..."

I can't return it anyway, and I'm starting to like it enough to think I'll spray it at home when the weather gets cooler. I don't think I'd wear this out much though. I think it's barely unisex but leans heavily female and definitely skews old. I don't mean that in an offensive way, but certain scents elicit certain images. Like smelling some cheap melon body spray would make me think, "Young. Very young." The first spray of this made me think, "Older woman."

I asked my sister, "What does this smell like? Does it smell like an old lady?"

She said, "Not necessarily old lady. Just not...young. Kind of smells like something on ma's dresser."

I asked my friend, "What does this smell like?"

He said, "You smell like my grandma."

If I really like a scent, I don't necessarily care what other people think, but since I'm not over the moon with the scent myself and the response seems to be "You smell old(ish) and womanish" I'm gonna say not the best scent for a 30 year old guy. Like I said though, if I personally like something I'll still wear it even if it's not what you would imagine a 30yo guy to wear. For example, I've been using Soleil Blanc all summer, and I'm sure most would say that's feminine. I'll try it again in the winter and see if I like it more.

This purchase is a good lesson for me to do more research on the each note if I going to blind buy. I do love rose, but I love the rose that's in Perfumer's Workshop's Tea Rose and Jo Malone's Red Roses. I didn't know that may rose smells of raspberries which might be why I had trouble finding that clean red rose note in here--granted my nose probably isn't as developed as other people's here. Also like most people, I couldn't detect any coffee, but I did get something that smelled a bit like chocolate. I was checking the reviews here again today and came across Smellafella's review that explains why you won't get coffee here but rather something that smells like raspberry chocolates.

damienthoresson

Cafe Rose opens in a way not dissimilar to Majestic Rose from YSL, minus the woody notes. It dries down to a very lovely, sometimes heavy rose / saffron affair. Its not as though this combination hasn't been done before, and it's not exactly as though Cafe Rose brings anything new to the table... but there's no avoiding that this is just very refined. Perfect for the winter / cold autumnal evenings and okay, in small doses during spring. Opens with pepper, rose, tart raspberry and patchouli. These follow through to the heart when coffee comes in to the mix which then follows into the heart, discarding the pepper and blending with the spicy saffron which lessens a little over time.

Elegant, nothing new, but elegant all the same. You probably won't need this if you have a complex spicy rose already, but who am I to speak for others who probably experienced something different?

toshiba

Really disliked this the first few times I tried it. WAY too much coffee and 80s. Was honestly baffled by the reviews. Now that my sample has sat around for 6+ months, apparently either my tastes have changed (very possible) or there was some chemistry that needed time to develop.

I still don't *love* it, but it is more than pleasant. I find it to be more femme than the other reviewers here seem to, but overall pretty unisex. There's an evolution of scent that is interesting, and really where I think Tom Ford tends to excel. That and his oud is the one that smells the nicest on me.

It does surprise me that amber is listed so far down on the notes detected list. To me it is pretty up there with the rose, just politely. In the background, keeping the scent creamy rather than crisp or watery. Everything else comes in and out around the rose as the day goes on and depending on temperature.

CLEAR ROSEWATER
______________________________________________________

I was looking for a good rose fragrance and based on the reviews here I blind bought Café Rose.

I was surprised by it. From the beginning until the dry down, all I can sense is a clear incredibly fresh rose with a hint of saffron. Nothing else. NO coffee, no patchouli, no incense. Just fresh and clean rosewater, which lasts.

Longevity: - 7/10
Sillage: - 7/10

All in all: 10 out of 10 subjective points -> because I was looking for a clean rose scent, and that's what Café Rose delivered.

happy-knight

Thought this was pretty meh but that's just me I suppose, I don't think it particularly stands out.

bbrito

I've really liked this one since the first time I smelled it and it never fails to get compliments...that being said it's safe to say it's definitely unisex and I'd use it for a night out if I'd have to pick an occasion.

maureen.mccabe

Picture an early 80s disco album cover: a bouquet of red roses glowing next to a burning candle, a mysterious female hand with pointed red nails, reaching for a glass of wine. Looks amazing, interesting, seductive. Excited to hear the music, you open the record sleeve and put the vinyl down on your wood-paneled vintage turntable. You quickly realize that the music sucks. But hey, the album cover is cool.

Love the striking design of the bottle, but that isn't nearly as important as what's inside. Tom Ford fragrances are long-lasting and initially enjoyable, but I find they lack complexity. Same goes for Tobacco Vanille, to which I gave the same type of review...

It's like dating that hunky handsome guy you've always dreamed of, and then realizing he has no deeper qualities and is, in fact, a very shallow and boring person to be around. You know you could never fall in love with a guy like that.

stel15

Rose rose and rose. Take away the Tom Ford name and what yoy are left with is just Rose natural oil. 4/10

sjunaidalishah

To me in opening it smells very much like a Tuscan leather, I am wondering why I am the only one who feel like this.

I believe this is because of the Safron and May Rose combination and May Rose smells like a raspberry so this what make it similar with tuscan leather.

It smells good, as I love Tuscan leather and it gives me same vibe.

in first 2-3 hours it projects good, but after that it becomes skin scent and remain till 6-7 hours.

In dry down it smells very smooth and easy going and a bit creamy.

This isn't a democracy, it is a fragrance review website, and what you posted isn't a review. Therefore it should be deleted, along with my post pointing this out.

I have never bought a full bottle of anything that smells like the tester or sample. I still get sucked in but I am gearing toward mid eastern houses. So much cheaper, higher quality ingredients (smells like it me) and just different attitude in their workmanship and final product. We been getting ripped with our full permission. Lets see if this makes it to reviews. I've had a few that got deleted immediately. So much for democracy

FleuryNice

So I bought some of this and it doesn't smell as strong as tester in store. I checked code on product checker websites and found it was manufactured in Jan 2014 making it 45 months old. I wondered if this meant it was possibly past shelf life and queried this with TF website. Anyways, this was their rely...

Thank you for your interest in Tom Ford Beauty.

Unopened products should be good for at least three years under normal use conditions provided they are not exposed to extreme heat or cold. You may not be aware that some products have a period after opening symbol on its packaging. The symbol is an open jar with a number and the letter “M” on the jar. This informs the consumer of the number of months after opening during which the product should be fully used or replaced.

Additionally, our laboratories have a thorough and extensive quality control procedure, a part of which is the coding of each product. The batch code was designed for and used by the Company as part of our comprehensive internal tracking system. It is not intended as an expiration date.

What are your thoughts on this?

NickZee

Dry rose that almost has a candied rasberry note. The coffee only makes a brief appearance at the beginning.

francinereap

I really wanted to like this one because rose is one of my favorite scents in a perfume....but for the money I shelled out and the weakness of the scent...I am highly disappointed. This is definitely going back to Nordstrom.

Tremere

Italian Cypress for Yatagan (though most say Z-14), Noir for Habit Rouge; much of the Ford oeuvre consists of uprezzed or dumbed-down interpretations of classic masculines long-since lost to brand-stretching or the vagaries of consumer preference. Whatever the originality of the enterprise, one could at least rely on the quality of materials, at least in his Private Blend line.

And then there's this. With the exception of a headache-inducing linalool, Cafe Rose is every other attar in the Al-Haramain/Rasasi/Swiss Arabian bargain basement range. A scrubber.

Rinio

Dark, evening, winter rose, strong incense and some chocolate or coffee bean smell. I would prefer this mature feminine smell on a sexy young man (or stayed young man) for some reason. It would intrigue me. It reminds me of Bvlgari´s jasmin noir which I had in 2009 and loved. I purchased the sampler but will not buy the bottle.

YolkMedusa

Very nice and pleasing scent, comfortable and wearable.

Starts out with an odd random green note (not unpleasant just odd), then almost immediately moves on to rose and coffee (dropping the green note entirely).

Remains as such for a bit, and then the coffee disappears.

From then on, it's just a very nice, rich, languid rose/patchouli accord - with some very soft amber and even softer spice in the background. Stays that way indefinitely.

One of my favorites in the Tom Ford line.

ANNAFRYS

Heavy dirty rose.
Not for me with all respect and desire for it.

Yasi

This smells like pure rose water mixed with saffron. I can't detect any coffee, incense or anything dark in it. it has the whole middle eastern vibe. if you're into pure rose fragrances, you'll love it. it has nice sillage and longevity too.

But I can't recommend this to my fellow Iranian perfume lovers. it does have quality, but the smell of rose water is really tacky here and most people try to avoid having it in their perfumes.

tiababy

If you want a pure, natural rose but want an oriental red rose rather than the dozens of pastel pink rose scents out there, this is exactly what you're looking for. Amazing projection and longevity too!

brian.fitzgerald

Café Rose By Tom Ford was my very first Tom Ford. Since then I've worn many a superb fragrance from his line. Dude knows his trade very well, an expert nose and fragrance businessman. First of all, let me start by saying that with rose in the name of the fragrance, it never bothered me that it would smell of rose, which is typically considered a feminine thing, and in perfumery a note which is found in many women's fragrances. I'm a gender bender and wear both men and women's fragrances as well as unisex fragrances and vintage perfume that was for women but smell like it's for men. Vintage women's perfume from yesteryear often had notes which come through as quite masculine be they notes of musk or leather or deep woods and green notes. This fragrance right here is UNISEX. The rose in the cologne is a smoky patchouli-rose with a spicier edge and a peppery, as well as aromatic flavor. This is a night blooming rose with a Persian character as others have noted. Smells like a Turkish rose oil and is quite potent and in fact it's similar to patchouli oil which has been used to mask the weed smell of cannabis.

Café rose opens with spices and a vanishing saffron note which gives this a decidedly Oriental flair. It whisks you away to an outdoor market place and café in Istanbul or Casablanca Morocco. This is not a European café in Paris on the Left bank. No sir. This is a café where men in those Turkish fez hats serve you coffee tea and allow you the pleasure of smoking tobacco. A tiny tobacco smell wafts up through the base and it's quite masculine and classic. The images that come through my head are all in black and white and I'm inside a film noir set in Istanbul or Casablanca during WW2. Smells of an exotic locale where adventure is just around the corner but at present you sit reading a newspaper smoking a cigar and drinking strongly brewed coffee.

The coffee note is quite an innovative touch but it does not take over the scent otherwise it would be too graphic like you know when you're at a Starbucks and you get whiffs of those coffee packages that you pass by on the way to the counter. This is a deep ground coffee smell but it's not dominant. The patchouli is the bigger accord, herbal and spiced up with pepper and that gorgeous rose note that is bewitched and covered in smoke. This is incense. Rose scented incense.

It reminds me of other smoky roses or Oriental roses like Armais Calligraphy Rose and Egoiste by Chanel as well as Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle. These roses are not grandmother's roses in her garden or in vases at her place. They are wild roses, exotic and on fire, with a complexity and depth that comes with age and wisdom. Very hard to wear this frag when you're a young lad and your skin is fresh and you have very little worries. Café rose is a mature fragrance for one who really does have time to sit back and smell the scent. In practical terms, this unisex fragrance is made to be worn in winter. It's warm and musky, smoky and balsamic. The skin becomes warmer as you wear it. It's something to put on with a coat, scarf, gloves, leather trench coats that kind of thing. It's definitely made to be worn in a cold climate like Russia despite it's Arabic leanings.

Another winner from Tom Ford

on the noze

Tested this 2 days ago and my whole bathroom smells divine because the tester card I sprayed it on is on my vanity unit. Excellent
longevity as most private blends have in common. You know I think of Tobacco Vanille when I smell Cafe Rose and there are no common notes so perhaps it's the lovely Tom Ford signature I'm picking up on. Now I'm on the hunt for a bottle to add to my many other Tom Ford fragrance collection.
Anyone who has a 50ml bottle available for swap or sale, please PM me.

tiababy

I've tried many times to "get" this and I finally do! I used to just get screechy rose and saffron with no coffee to be found but now I finally smell the coffee, yay! This is not a sweet or gourmand coffee note like in Black Opium, it's a dry coffee bean note but it rounds out the rose and saffron. The rose is a fresh red rose that is still pretty sharp but in a good way. This is perfect if you want a rose that isn't exactly oriental but not powdery/girly girl either. Smells very expensive and high quality too (but I mean it is lol). It reminds me of an Arabian style rose moreso than a western one which is a-ok with me.

Mzaa1206

I have a few TF fragrances. They're nice but nothing I would buy again after finishing a bottle. However, Cafe Rose I cannot live without. I had a 50ml bottle that I used up. I couldn't go a month before I was forced to buy the 100ml bottle that just arrived today. I wear it during the day to work, I wear it to go out for dinner and I wear it to bed. It is a beautiful perfume. I love the smell of red roses and that's what this perfume delivers. It dries down to a soft, soapy fragrance which I also love. If you don't like roses or soapy perfumes you may not care for this one. But if you're like me about and want a true rose, this one is gorgeous. I get tons of compliments. Only downside is this only lasts about 4-5 hours.

9/10

sherryfung

Definitely the smell of Liu Shen (Anti Mosquitoes Floral Water) - I tried and smelled for 7 days. Liu Shen is as cheap as 3 pound but even lasts much longer. Liu Shen is not a perfume though, more for medical purposes but woth a floral smell.

sherryfung

Unsure if I should buy this. It smells like Liu Shen Hua Liu Shui- a lotion made with Chinese herbs and fragrance to prevent mosquitoes in China.

blackness

I absolutely agree with MrMikki! This is totally a beautiful, elegant, discreet rose, a delightful rose, a magical rose! With a gentle smooth delicious warm spicy coffee slowly blending in after a few hours. It's divine!!! It's heavenly!! The patchouli is so earthy and has a fresh herby smell, and the amber melds and smooths and calms everything. It is lovely and noticeable to others, who always tell me I smell beautiful, and it lasts incredibly well, 16 hours easily. It's beautifully beautiful!!!! And my husband, who wears it and smells gorgeous in it himself, adores it on me, and loves snuggling up to my neck, often!!!
Gorgeous Cafe Rose!!!!! It's a very romantic perfume!!!! I adore it!!!!

Wilremix

Where's the coffee? Lol
It seems to me the Intense cafe ... that is, one more deception..

MrMikki

I'm quite sure that there are so many people like me who love the rose smell but can't find anything with an elegant, modest and delicate touch. Because most of the rose fragrances are usually too sharp, exaggerated and flashy outside.

Cafe Rose is such a genius harmony combination. You'll smell the rose with a magical touch without disturbing anyone around you - also because saffron is the hidden hero and supporter that makes it so rich-.

Rose takes the majority for long hours and then coffee becomes visible.

I don't agree with comments saying it's an old woman perfume. It's ABSOLUTELY unisex and not for old ages at all... For all young&midle aged people with a cool style. ;)

ChristopherRiley

An initially well blended light coffee and rose fragrance which soon goes close to the skin..

I applied heavy sprays

0 - 1.5 hours- 5 inch projection. This is a very well blended dual fragrance. You can clearly detect a soft white coffee and a delicate, non piercing rose. Mostly feminine and well done

1.5 hours - 4 hours - 2 inch projection. Low performance which is a shame and furthermore, the dual notes disappear and instead you have a generic sweet fragrance, still nice, but lost its initial niche quality.

4 hours - 6 hours. Close to skin.

Wonderful opening but it has low performance and it's not cost effective to overspray in an attempt to make up for the lack of projection.

It may seem crass to suggest that an intense version of this should be released as this is a private blend, but Tom Ford has released so many fragrances now that I think the Private Blend aura has been lost. An intense version would be very welcome to me.

Good

etternax

The opening is my least favourite part because it reminds me of Noir de Noir with the very heavy rose mixed with a hint of saffron and pepper.

This initial phase dissipates after 3 minutes, and the fragrance starts to completely take a different direction leaving Noir de Noir behind.

Lots of rose, tangy rose, powdery rose, fruity rose, but never too sweet and never cloying. The main scent that I get from a distance is this berry type of a rose scent, and as I get closer to smell it even more I notice this dark earthiness of the coffee only in the background. It is actually more like freshly ground Turkish coffee.

The third phase is when the fragrance settles on the skin after about 3 hours where the fruitiness diminishes and the coffee comes to the surface, but still mixed with the most wonderful, elegant, and well-made rose note.

Two thumbs up for this fragrance although I think it is more feminine than masculine. I am a woman by the way so this might be why it is playing this way on my skin.

Went to my local perfume counter today and tried this one out.
I really liked it after just sniffing the bottle, but when i sampled it on those small cardboard sheets they have for this purpose, i was really disappointed...
On paper, i just got a very medicinal scent much alike bug repellent. Not pleasant at all.
I then sprayed it on my wrist to see if it was any different, and i was not impressed by that either ... just a rose scent among all other rose scents.

Some time passed and then i found myself wondering WHAT on earth it was that smelled so good around me.
Sniffed my wrist and, yes, the amazing scent i kept on noticing all the time was Café Rose. It had gone from a bland rose scent to a very sweet, oriental, powdery rose... Very elegant and classy, and a bit alike Yves Rocher's Rose Ispahan.
At this time, i found myself being in love with this perfume.

Later on i sniffed my wrist again to get a whiff of that delicious sweet rose i fell in love with - only to find that there were barely any hints of it anymore.
It had turned into a very masculine, warm and woody scent, that reminded me much of what i really disliked about CK IN2U... Both of these scents have amber as base note, and i think this is the note i really can't stand.

I really wish that this scent didn't go masculine, woody and slightly pungent on me, and would just remain a sweet oriental rose instead. This would have made it truly amazing, to me.

UPDATE: The woody and slightly masculine undertones of this fragrance have really grown on me, and I now really love this perfume as a whole!
Would still recommend for those who don't mind a rose that doesn't stay sweet all way around, though.

i am from the UAE and this perfume smells exactly like any old lady here (grandmothers) NOT trashing this fragrance or anything, actually its the opposite. its very appreciated scent here where i live.

To explain my statement, in old days until now women in the UAE used a traditional homemade fragrance called "Mukhamariyah" its made by my mixing grinded Saffron as the main ingredient, with Oud oil, rose oil, musk and Jasmin oil. after that they keep it in an air tight container in the dark some even bury it in the sand for a month until the ingredients ferments and blends together. this mixture is then used as a fragrance for the hair and behind the ear. using insence "bukhor" compliments it very much.

so to me, Tom Ford brought us Mukhamariyah in a bottle. WOW! I am glad other people from around the world are appreciating these ingredients blended together!

MsFCAS

This scent is a little darker and stronger than I usually go and I have to apply it very sparingly or else I find it overwhelming.

I was at SFO and was a bit early for my flight to NYC. There is a new cosmetics store beteeen the 60s and 70s gates in the new area of Terminal 3. I wandered in to look at the Tom Ford lipsticks and then got sucked into smelling the scents. This one I sprayed directly on my wrist because I loved how it smelled on paper. At first, I didn't like it on me, it felt too masculine and dark. But on the flight I kept sniffing my wrist and falling harder and harder for it.

So of course I went back and bought it when I got back to SFO.

It's not a daily wear for me, and I haven't had the intense reaction to it that I experienced with my sample spritz, but I'm still glad it's in my collection. My husband thinks it's sexy so it's kind of a date-night or bedtime spray for me.

icingsugar

A wonderful sharp and powdery tangy rose. I don't detect the coffee as I do in Montale's Intense Cafe (another rose/coffee combo). The opening to this is very beautiful; sweet and warm. The dry down is a little more typical powdery rose. This reminds me a little of Bond no 9s Harrod Rose, which is tad more powdery, and Kate Moss Kate which is a colder, sweeter rose. I would love a full size of this one day, but unfortunately for the time being will have to make do with my 1ml sample.

MimiJoy

Juicy rose and saffron laid on a comfy bed of patchouli. Coffee is quite sacrified to my nose and does not stand out as I wish it did (I am Italian, coffee is a religion for us ;P !!!).
On my skin it starts as freshly stingy to then warm up into a wonderful voluptuos sandalwood and amber drydown.
I love it since it is a bold unusual rose with a lot of character which could suit men too.
Café Rose be my next signature scent? Uhmmmmmm the two top candidates are Café Rose and Portrait of a Lady by Malle, and telling the truth I am more convinced about the latter which seems to be more modern and present.

SuzanneS

On me, I get a lot of rose. She is center stage with a lilt of pepper and saffron. As it progresses an incency amber patchouli brings her to earth. The coffee scent is mild and is a slight undercurrent.Lasting 6 hrs and still going. Beautiful drydown. If you found Calligraphy Rose way too much but still seeking a rose centered fragrance, this is a very smooth, gentle idea of a unique rose.

Macadoo

@starassist - yours has to be the WORST review I have ever read! It way over the top and totally ridiculous. From your childish little rant, it sounds as though you did go to the toilet and forgot to wipe your own ass. Perhaps that was what you were smelling as you drove home.

Coffee_Girl

Oh my, this perfume is a coffee lover’s paradise! I‘m not usually into gourmand scents (Thierry Mugler’s Angel for example), but today I surrendered my inhibitions to this gorgeous love potion called Café Rose. For me this fragrance captures the true essence of an Italian coffee bar along the canals of Venice. First impressions are of a rich Mediterranean espresso, combined with luxurious rose…then drying down into a powdery coco.

The combination of elegant floral with grounded coffee beans does for me what chocolate and strawberries could not; it made me feel cozy, comforted, happy, and adventurous. I’m not sure how Tom Ford does it, but there is a feeling of European coffee shops during the fall, with sparkling lights, cobblestone streets and fresh roses blossoming into the night.

Overall a delicious concoction in an innocuous little bottle.

I want a bottle! This smells sophisticated and cuddlesome., unlike the cold and univiting Chanel No5, which as another reviewer pointed out is an old lady smell.

Farouhaa

Ohh now you’re talking. This juice is beauty in a bottle. But not just an ordinary beauty…no! Instead, it is a beauty which will transport you to another world. From the House of Tom Ford, this is a work of art and strikes a cord in my heart as I am a lover of Arabian Parfumerie. This scent is deep and delicious, yet at the same time it is fresh and feminine. Very graceful and very seductive. It is the smell of an exotic beautiful woman in a long black gown walking in the summer heat of night. Her trail scent entices all around her who wonder who this mysterious femme is.. This is a unique perfume. It is strong but never overpowering. I think Mr Ford got this one just right..spot on. I really appreciate this one..a fragrance to be loved and cherished. Perhaps something to use on special evenings or whilst in the company of the one you love. Very romantic and womanly…

phantom smell

i try the tester it was a small bottle non spray it was a very nice smell after that i buy it.when i spray it i feel the smell is very bad i dont like it i give it to my sister. i would advice every body to spray any perfume on paper or on skin that you want to have it do not pour it just spray it because its a different.

ameagari

i gave this to my friend to sniff, as a lot of what i wear is considered "old lady" scents or whatever but she gravitates towards that herself. she gave it a sniff and said "VERY old lady" when i asked her thoughts on it. i don't get the comparison, it just smells like an oriental rose bomb really; not much of an age group attached to it. that said, this is an essential fragrance for all rose lovers, the way it morphs and twists on the skin is really cool. i get a dewy rose, rosewater and a thick jammy-rose that alternate in dominance throughout the wearing, i thought the triple rose-note was for show but it actually shows its facets quite prominently on my skin. wish i got more incense and coffee though. i haven't quite smelled a rose like this, but even out of all the roses in the world, the way this one wears on my skin totally makes it worth the purchase.

nathanlm

I used this for couple days but gave it to my gf, too much rose for me n no coffee note.

ewanhoozarmy

Smellicious, you use 'grandma smell' in what seems to be a disparaging way? What I think you may have meant to use was a term more along the lines of 'old school' or 'classic' which i feel would be more appropriate and descriptive. I'm sure many scent lovers have fragrances in their collections specifically because they remind them of loved ones e.g. a grandmother and memories associated with their time spent with them, so inferring a negative connotation probably seems counterintuitive to many. Personally, I love and wear No.5 (I'm a 29 year old bearded guy- the polar opposite of MOST people's grandmothers!) and I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to argue against it being anything but a classic. But hey! Slap a wig on me and call me 'grandma' if you wish!!!! Like all things, perfumery cultivates and follows trends, and the typical floral aldehyde type scents are indicative of a particular period, hence being perhaps favoured by people within a certain age range. Similarly, to the way fruitchoulis and oud fragrances have been popular over the last five or ten years. I think the key is being open to perfumes from bygone olfactory periods and keeping them alive, in and different circumstances, i.e. by challenging fragrance gender and age expectations and in doing so, expressing our individuality by not necessarily wearing scents with current mass appeal, marketed to particular demographics and in vogue at that moment in time.

Smellicious0000

I do and I don't like this fragrance. It smells nice on clothes but on my skin I find it to be sickly sweet. Could it be the coffee note? Projection and longevity is incredible, and lasts for hours. It is not a 'grandma' smell as previously suggested by another reviewer. Grandma smell is Chanel No.5!

urban58

Wow...
First time wore this frag seem like wearing an expensive suit, only for 30 years old age.
Use it for special on occasionally I think and the bottle design is strange to me but the scen is Great!!!

aura_therapy

I love roses and I love coffee so I thought this was going to be a sure thing, but it is too strong and overpowering for my taste. And that is with one light spritz. It was nice for the first few minutes but then it kept unwinding and unwinding and became suffocating. I would not want to be in a closed room with someone who had this on. I smell incense-y roses but no coffee.

Taliera

I'm not sure what the problem is here, but it smells very "perfumey" without much rose. Maybe it's my skin, because I'm getting incense, spices, woods and not much else. Maybe I over-applied (tester dripped about twice as much as I would normally put on) because it's so overwhelmingly strong. And my cat hated it!

YouSmells

Over 40 male:

A man named Tom Ford gave me a dozen roses today. It's the third time a man has given me roses, and the third time it got them nowhere.

I went shopping to try only one of three TF choices I had picked out beforehand; I chose this one because the sales lady told me THIS was her favorite...

"This is great!" she exclaimed, in this part of TF's line.

I bought her excitement, trusted her judgement, she seemed astute, well-versed in TF, was slightly taller than me, good looking, and touched my strong masculine shoulder with her soft, engagement ring left hand.

There's a sucker born every minute. I must be wearing a sign.

SO: Strong authentic rose opening, almost exactly like smelling the flower.

This sticks around, has projection, does not dissipate from the opening readily.

I'll wear a darker rose at times as long as there are other predominant notes, but I can't when it's this pronounced; only because I'm not a rose fan to begin with, not because I care whether it's perceived as feminine or not (but in this case, I feel it's strongly feminine).

This fragrance is a "Gramma overdid it..." with accompanying gag in the small economy sized vehicle on the way to have Gramma's hair done.

From there, it unfortunately develops into a very common mall scent dry down.

I waited for as long as I could for more divergence from the top, into a **much anticipated coffee**...

That never happened.

Where the HECK is the dang "cafe?"

Must be down the other street, cuz I sure as heck can't find it.

Or perhaps more accurately, I was not going to wait past the heavy rose extended opening to find the cafe, since I knew at that point (45 mins later) I didn't want to smell like overzealous Gramma, and I had no Dramamine handy.

No rating here, because it's just not a scent I would be interested in with the predominant rose, so I'm biased.

I needed the rose to tone down and mix, but the dry down didn't even give me anything more than a predictable and common mall bottom.

A mauled bottom at that.

Boooooooo...

The crowd jeers.

Vegas Pauli

Maybe its my imagination but I swear I smell oud in Rose Café. This is a dry, dusty and dirty interpretation of a rose and in my opinion it can be unisex. As a guy I think its somewhat different and exotic smelling in comparison to the usual stuff I wear. Its flowery but not sweet at all and very musky. I also feel it's not too far off from Rose Anonyme by Atelier but with better staying power. I love this and urge any guy to give it a try.

ouladybird2005

When I smell Café Rose it immediately brings to mind a bouquet of roses mixed with sticks and grasses whose edges have started to turn and dry out sitting on a table with a forgotten cup of coffee. Though that doesn’t sound that pleasant in real life as a painting would be amazing and this fragrance like a piece of artwork can be viewed the same way; this is one to sample before buying, seriously. Right off the bat with the first spray I pick up on the rose, slightly dry and with a slight bitterness which I account to the black pepper- the saffron seems to be sticking to the background and really doesn’t even play a major role until closer to the arrival of the heart notes. The rose sticks around in the heart, but as the coffee note arrives it smell more like the brewed grounds than a cup of coffee- bitter. I really love the base notes though, they are some of my favorites- notably sandalwood, which brings a creaminess to the party with the slight smokiness of the incense and the bite of patchouli. I like this one a lot, though I can see why people are not fans also.

Bigsly

Worn for about ten minutes, my impression is that this is too "feminine" for me, and that I'd much rather wear L`Or de Torrente. I'll update as things develop.

UPDATE: I never got much of the base notes and instead it just seemed to fade out over time. I can understand why women would like this, but I don't want florals as strong as they are here, unless the base has something really nice, which I didn't detect here. This makes me appreciate my L'Or de Torrente more than I already did!

Liquidasset77

Victim of the HYPE TRAIN!!!Today is April 24, 2016.....
I've tried to explore rose and have had mixed success only coming to be able to wear The Woody Le Labo frag Rose 31. I purchased this blind on EBay ( great deal) because of the current hype it has received on YouTube. I must say I have not totally grasped the concept of frags being gender neutral but I try to have an understanding and open mind. That being said I asked the question of how can this be worn by a man? This to me represents the most delicate aspects of a woman I've ever smelled. This is so feminine 3 of the 8 woman I asked said it was to feminine for them! It's not a bad smell it's actually pretty good but it blurs a line that I dare not cross.

Kon-nos91

Tom Ford is very clever. His perfumes are simple, born from life and trying to be moments or reality in a bottle. This happens with Cafe Rose too and today I finally tried.

I am not gonna say a lot about it's tones. Maybe it's my nose or maybe the combination is what I really smell. The perfume smells and 'tastes' exactly like classic bonbons we have in Greece, in old style coffee shops. The classics are usually 3 types and one of them is Cafe Rose-style if I can say.

I wasn't impressed cause I am familiar with this smell but people don't know, would definitely like. Who wouldn't like a classic with capital C? So a 'culture' bonbon with rosie undertone, covered from white sugar, oriental and slightly sweet, delicate, born in a coffee/incense shop. That's it.

polly golightly

BiancaDrumea

I am a fan of anything smelling like roses so there I am trying cafe rose one more time. I find Cafe Rose very wearable rose scent, sexy, elegant and good for most seasons except maybe the very hot summer months although that's how I discovered it so I guess for me it works in summer as well.

I could not justify initially the high price as I thought there has to be something close to it that doesn't cost an arm. Not lucky yet to find it but in my search I discovered Portrait of a Lady which is not the same but it's another beautiful rose. Now I want them both!

Vanian

For 2016 my aim is to find my perfect 'cup of coffee' scent. Tried this as one of the fragrances with coffee ingredients in my list to explore this year and have been left with a bit of mixed feelings.

First: Where is the coffee moment in it? It seems I can not get it. At least on my skin is missing.

Second: On the rose front - it put a big, big smile on my face. Have you ever been in Bulgarian souvenir shops where they sell pure Bulgarian rose oil, rose essence products, etc. The shops literally smell like this perfume. Absolutely stunning, lovely, sophisticated and realistic rose in that one. I happily will keep it in my collection just for that reason.

LuxAestiva

Reading your lovely reviews and drinking one too many glasses of Cabernet led to a drunken, blind eBay bid on this one. When I ended up winning I was actually really disappointed, what if this ended up being a fake or what if I hated it?

I ended up receiving the bottle and went and got an authentic sample from Nordstrom ready to compare. Fortunately they smelled completely identical and had the same longevity. At first I wasn't a huge fan of this fragrance, but it quickly grew on me and now I'm addicted. It's not too complex, but it is divine. It smells like luscious, freshly cut, dark crimson red rose, stems, emerald leaves and all, swirled with a slight musky, woody, faint incense to keep it grounded. I find that this smells so much more amazing on my skin than on my clothing and it also seems to last longer on my skin, which is rare for a fragrance. This can easily last all day and leave traces into the following day. It is definitely unisex, but takes a confident, unique, modern man to pull it off.

I love the modern Baroque bottle. It looks indulgent and sophisticated - definitely something you want displayed on your nightstand. The purple label is a nice contrast with the deep amber bottle.

ayh210

I LOVE this! Rose is one of my absolutely favorite flowers but there are so many rose fragrances out there that just don't get it quite right.

This one smells warm and boozy. Something you could wear with an oversized sweater in front of a nice fire and just be completely content. There were subtle hints of saffron, black pepper at the opening along with rose but no trace of coffee at all.
On drydown, I get a wonderful patchouli rose mixture.

SoheePark

are you serious, rose and coffee?? it doesn't smell like neither of those on me! i get soapiness and amber, a bit woody and green notes too

Gigi The Fashionista

One of the men of my Wall Street Rotary Club wears this. He's in his 30's. This is a rose fragrance for men! It's unisex but really does turn mostly masculine. The rose is not your heady, sweet soft rose. It's a dark rose that has been warmed up by strong incense and embraced by smoky patchouli. I would classify this fragrance as a rose-patchouli-amber. Amber is big this year. Amber is what gives a fragrance that clean dry down which does not disturb anyone, not even you wearing it. It's like soap but very masculine soap. Starts off spicy, then you get rose and a coffee note. I also detect some tobacco. It's gorgeous, very sultry, very sexy. I can't wear this because it's way too masculine. I was however enchanted by their take on rose. I recommend this for men who are ages 30 and up, for business wear formal evening wear. It's a strong scent for a man who is working hard and very ambitious. It's so evocative of Wall Street guys, at least for me. It's very leisurely and an evening fragrance. This and Tom Ford's Black Orchid are masterpieces. Tom Ford is the best celebrity perfumer working today!

RoyalPerez516

A very nice floral, soapy fragrance.

It smells rather clean and a bit extra soapy, like a nice expensive shampoo. I'm trying to give this one a bit more time to see if I like it. I do not like the soapy part all that much, though I do like the dry-down way more than the top. I will give this one a little more time before I come back to edit my review.

As it stands, I will give this one a decent 7 out of 10. I do not think this one is worthy of being in the private blends, it is more along the lines of a designer fragrance.

hannyd168

Okay... not crazy nice just nice :)

eranaral

I smell a red rose and zaferan (saffron) bokeh under the smokey goodness of Frankincense. Its like Ms. Saffron and Rose found themselves in church and decided to stick around. Its a interesting combination. Some time later, the Ms. Rose and Saffron get up and leave church, and the frankincense wears off of them. Awesome lasting power, over 8 hours!

LuckyStar1

Sampled this and it is a beautiful fragrance but a little too feminine on my skin. I did not get the coffee notes. Very strong rose water scent with a little spice. The rose was completely dominating over any other note. I did like the fragrance but definitely not one for me, it just did not work although the longevity was fantastic.

mousemousecat

An extremely wearable unisex woody rose scent, with enough sweetness to make a personal statement. Can pass as a daily work scent in cooler months.

mrsg34

I managed to get 20mls of this from nexangelus as she very kindly did a split with me.It is a gorgeous, smoky, dark rose with incense it is truly beautiful.I always thought rose scents would smell like old style talcum powder but not this beauty! I'm developing a real love of incense rose and this just fits the bill :)

persefoni

Splendid!!! A magnificent rose, with chocolatey-coffee aromas, a tobaccoish-insence depth and a vibrating strength that surpassed any expectations of a post2000 perfume: it actually stayed overnight, and smelled distinctly 18 hours after the original application!!

Side by side with Plum Japonais, it was in the 33 Degrees the clear winner in terms of evolution, originality (although the rose combination bears similarities to rose velours)and endurance!

Very very pretty, feminine yet invigorating, smooth yet potent, expensive yet challenging! It also has a truly calming effect on the senses....

Still, 279€ for 100ml is out of my league ...

dylan.kohout

Not really a fan of this. I really wish there was coffee in this, because I really don't pick up on it at all. To me this is just a piercing rose scent with a little incense and spice in the background. If you want a piercing rose fragrance like this, just get a Montale. Thumbs down, Mr. Ford, you can do better!

CoffeeCup

Tested it today, and I am impressed! It's not hugely complicated or whatnot, but I appreciate its quality a lot! Strong, yet smooth. Very-very interesting!

Will test-wear it again for a better understanding, but for now all I can say is - I'm happy I tried it! Something that sparked my interest after a long hiatus.

muzzbait

yep...

ladies and gentlemen, any of you missing those classic amouage attars, look no further. seriously, i put this on today and the first thing i thought was "yep, amouage-attar-esque". rose. saffron. sandal/ambergris background. this could be al mas, or even asrar. smooth, wonderful...

i'm wearing this as a 'generic oil', which can be purchased RIDICULOUSLY cheaply on the internet (12 x 3 ml oils for $40 US). universal perfumes and cosmetics. wonderful. love it.

LisaMari

It actually smells like a café, not a greasy spoon type café but a subtle, elegant one with terracotta tiles and natural sunlight.. I think that is because of the coffee and the wood - those are the 2 main notes I detect in this. All the notes are so well blended and smooth that nothing stands out - its just all together to make a clean comforting coffee musk with just a suggestion of rose.
Its a feminine unisex because although nothing about it screams feminine or masculine, I just associate warm musks with women rather than men

Kterhark

I did the equivalent of a 'dine and dash' with this one. 30 seconds to peruse the Tom Ford line up, and this is the one I chose.

Always go with your first impressions. I LOVE this. It's playful, feisty and sassy. I love patchouli rose frags, and this one has a little 'something special' going on. Spices? Sure. But the dry, woody variety.

This scent fits my mood tonight. A mood that is outgoing, good natured and optimistic. I like that it is feminine enough to keep me enthralled and just dry and woody enough to keep me from feeling like a fruit tart. Very classy. Love it!

explicitreviews

This reminds me of a Buddhist temple in a good way.
Mainly due to the incense and sandalwood. There is also a light spicy note amidst the dominant floral notes.
I get a bit of a liquorice too.

Definitely a night perfume. For high class romantic dates that ends sleazy. Seductive perfume, but very mature. Like maybe late 30s.

FORTEZZA

A nice mysterious rose/saffron smell. Top is Rose/Saffron, Bottom is Incense. I like this a lot. I don't get much coffee, amber, pepper or sandlewood however. Longevity is a bit lacking and the saffron makes this smell too feminine for a man to where; almost like hairspray.

Top 15 Tom Ford Scent

jes1123

I don't typically love rose scents, but this one has me sniffing for more. I'm a sucker for saffron, coffee, and spicy scents, but always struggle with that dividing line between sexy or old-womanish. This scent is floral, deep, spicy, and sexy, but it manages to not cross over that line into too heavy or old-womanish.

After spraying on some of this at the Bloomingdales counter, i was subsequently complemented by someone in Sephora (then again, it could've been the entire Tom Ford cocktail I sampled, but this one stood out most). The woman at the counter told me this is the TF she wears, and that she gets tons of compliments on it and wears it year round.

Staying power is INSANE. I scrubbed it off in the shower and STILL managed coming out smelling like it. The Champaca Absolute washed right off but the Santal Blush wouldn't wash off either. I ruled Santal Blush out as a scent I will buy, but I am still deciding between this one or Shanghai Lilly.

lizakaya

Dark sultry spicy rose, rather than a fresh wet garden rose or even a rose in a bouquet at a ladies luncheon. This is a full bloomed rose on the ground in a pile of dirt. Ultimately, this is very wearable for me because it is not a shy, insipid, virginal rose nor is it peppy and bright. I find the throw to be moderate (although I certainly do not apply generously) but the staying power to be lengthy. I can usually smell traces of this on my pillow the morning after. Living in Southern California, this will be a three season scent, as I think it will be oppressive in the heat of summer.

artsyrn

In a word,AMAZING! This Perfumista was instantly smitten. The first impression became a lasting one. End of story.

nikoleta1

I think I smell a touch of oud mixed with rose, soft and classy chypre, lasting too.

Fluffyandpuffy

Got a sample, love this! Need more. Rose blast then spicy intense, I don't get coffee but that's ok. Love!

landshark321

Cafe Rose is a balanced fragrance with a dense rose smell and not the fleeting floral lightness with which many rose scents can be associated (i.e. Jo Malone' s Red Roses, though pretty much every JM offering is light).

It's a strong scent that is anchored well by the coffee, incense, and patchouli, which I cannot detect individually but rather absorb as one dark, woody base that doesn't contrast the rose but rather complements it. I'm not familiar with rose enough to detect the different types of rose notes listed, but this doesn't smell like most rose scents because it is so heavy in general and so heavily rosy in particular. Jo Malone's Velvet Rose & Oud is a decent comparison, but that is somewhat sweeter and spicier, and less wood and rosy. The dark rose aspect is similar to that of Noir de Noir, as well.

Cafe Rose leans slightly feminine but is effectively unisex. I could see men and women alike wearing, and I would consider buying it myself. With the Tom Ford Private Blend label and price, my high expectations for projection and longevity were both more or less met. It projects beyond a foot and a half and lasts in the vicinity of eight hours, after which it devolves into a skin scent.

Of course fans of rose who aren't familiar with this should smell it, but anyone who enjoys woody florals should try it as well.

Strong, gagging and unbearable. The Rose from Hell.

I got a sample of this stuff for my wife when I bought Tuscan Leather. Ugh. She can crack open the bottle downstairs and I swear, I can smell it upstairs... why can't stuff I like have that kind of sillage?

houstcs

Top notes are brilliant and I do find it great for a man. the base is great but not as nice to me as the opening and heart. Possibly the opening lasted hours on me, or I missed the opening and went straight to the middle.

one of the top rose for me, I liked it over lyric and others but it's not comparable to darker rose patch combos imo Bc I didn't get much patchouli

MickeyB

This stuff smells great and I love the rose smell but too me it's not a man's scent. Lyric man by Amouage is the best rose scent for men I have found in my opinion.

suzrwin

Starts out with the signature Tom Ford balsamic floral blast, and then settles into a slightly woody, bare hint of bitter coffee rosy rose. I'm not young or old enough for this practically-an-ingenue rose. Give me Lyric, or Ta'if, or Voleurs de Roses any day of the week. I like my rose a little more dirty or dark.

Sadly, Tom Ford scents just don't seem to suit my body chemistry;even when they open beautifully, they smell terrible at the end. There is no doubt he has some great perfumes--for the person whose chemistry doesn't reject the basenotes.

jackoca

dont like rose perfumes, got a sample, happy i didnt buy the full bottle :>

Overall: 9.5/10
Here's Why:
Rose? Masculine?
Coffee? Really?
Incense? with the florals?
It shouldn't work. But it does.
Magnificent. Subtle, rich and warm.
It all comes together to become a smoky, deep rose with just the right sweet, just the right bitter and just the right smokiness.
Plays well with others and blends marvelously with Patchouli Absolue.

Bribing myself through 1300 pages of boring reading, this is a decant worth 100 pages. Lovely, lovely rich rose; a very intense, jammy and rosy red rose. The deep rose with patchouli combination reminds me of Gres Caberet, but with much better lasting power. Where Gres had more patch/less rose, I think Cafe Rose has more rose/less patch. There is an incense here -- beyond the patchouli -- that deepens the rose and makes it quite complex and sensual.

Sadly, I get no coffee from this at all, and it was the addition of this note that made me really want to try this fragrance. I suppose I can imagine there is coffee here, part of the richness and depth; but there is no distinct coffee note, nothing to say Cafe. Without the coffee note, it becomes just another rose-patchouli scent; more complex than some, darker than most, but nothing truly unique.

Sillage was moderate at least, and longevity at least 5 hours before it faded to just a whiff on my wrist.

Softer than Noir d Noir. A spicy rose vs creamy vanilla (N d N)

At first spray smells like a high quality women's perfume (emphasis on rose) but dries down to a spicy rose which is more masculine.

Sillage is soft. Longevity decent but again soft.

I like the opening of Noir d Noir better but prefer the dry down of Cafe Rose better.

Would either of these work for a guy ? YES NO and MAYBE. I am still trying to figure it out.

Meraviglioso profumo.....e follemente costoso!

This is not a linear fragrance from Tom Ford, and whilst it projects nicely and the sillage is very good, it is not a thick heavy hitter like many of this house's scents. Indeed, when I sniff my wrist, it is a little hard to pick up the scent that is sprayed there, but as I move my arms I catch wafts of rose that make me stop in my tracks.
I pick up a little patchouli, and quite some sandalwood, just a brief moment of toasting coffee (although if I hadn't been looking for it, I'm not sure I would have noticed, in all honesty) - I think this is the very light incense that creates this illusion. However, despite these notes, this is less sombre than I was expecting, and could absolutely be a day time scent.
The rose is jammy and dark, rather than powdery pink, and as I mentioned, seems to radiate as you move. It feels high quality, and clear, luminous almost, kept interesting by the other notes. It has the rumbling edge of darkness that I wished La Fille de Berlin had.
This was a big hit with my husband and young son - who are both difficult and dismissive of unsatisfactory fragrances - so a win all round.
Good for: absolute polish.

This is the most beautiful rose scent I have ever smelled. I've been walking around sniffing my arm all day. I had just splurged on a FB of Sahara Noir, and now I need (NEED, I tell you) a bottle of this wonderful stuff. I didn't know how I'd feel about the coffee note since it is not usually one of my favorites, but this fragrance is just fabulous. I think I'm becoming a Tom Ford addict.

At first I could smell only coffee and rose, but later I can smell mostly spices. It is very nice fragrance, comforting, not 'loud', well balanced, but just a little bit too balsamic for me.

Cafe Rose... Such a beautiful warm and intoxicating scent.
None of the notes in this beautiful rose based fragrance
are too overwhelming. This is a thing Tom Ford generally seems to get right over and over: create a well-balanced and modern fragrance. In the case of Cafe Rose, the difficult note - incense - is in no way overwhelming, which I appreciate a lot. To contrast this I would compare it to Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady, which slaps you in the face with incense while this one nicely lingers in the background where it belongs.

Rain in Istanbul.

I've never really appreciated rose fragrances until this one. Cafe Rose is warm, not too sweet, rich, very very calm, elegant - a perfect choice for a rainy day.

Like all Tom Fords Prive Parfumes, this one also has a hint of nostalgia, but it is a perfectly modernized version of vintage perfumery. It is very urban but you cannot escape its oriental gourmand quality of rose turkish delight served with a dark black coffee. Istanbul? Oh, yes here I come.

As someone who used to despise rose notes in a fragrance - THIS is the masterpiece that may somehow, by some witchcraft, turn me into a lover of rose scents. I can only imagine what it would do for a rose fanatic!

All of Tom Fords fragrances give me this feeling of comfort, familiarity and nostalgia, and create this pang of sadness and heartbreaking beauty. All of his perfumes that I have subconsciously remind me of someone in my life, or some feeling I've had before, though I'm 100% positive that nobody I know wears TF fragrances.

That being said, Cafe Rose is one of the more understated Tom Ford fragrances, at least with my skin chemistry. The spicy/incense notes give it an edge of a "unisex" quality - the rose is crisp, gorgeous, clear, and gorgeous; It is not plastick-y, powdery, or cheesy at all. It seems to have an "essential oil" feel about it. This is something that will actually make me feel like a million bucks. Classy, delicious, sexy, sweet but edgy, I can't get enough.

(I have to say though, my nose is completely immune to the coffee accord in this fragrance. From the opening to the dry-down, I get zero coffee!)

A wonderful rose scent (lightly peppery) with a hint of fresh coffee grounds in the background (you get both the minty and fruity facets of rose). It’s not aggressive, but it’s there. Projection and longevity of this scent is above average. If you want to feel like a million bucks, use D.R. Harris Pink aftershave post shaving and "lightly" spray Tom Ford Cafe Rose...absolutely great!

how it ca not contiene foam??!!?? ultimately, how you guessed then that is a background note?

First let me say that near rose perfection is never "boring" for those who appreciate quality rose fragrances. When I first tried Cafe Rose I wasn't overwhelmed either. But after trying it a couple more times I realized what all the fuss was about. Cafe Rose is understated elegance, masterfully created and delicate yet powerful. The wafts that drift passed my nose all day melt me and I can't get enough.

Initially, compared to Noir de Noir, Cafe Rose was a bit of a let down. But then the simplicity of Cafe Rose grew on me. I think it takes a few full wearings to appreciate it. Cafe Rose is much more subtle and works for any occasion, day or night....and any time of year. It exudes understated class and doesn't try too hard.

The coffee is mild and just enough to give the rose an edge to it...keeps it from being too "rosy". It grounds it and gives it an earthy feel while still remaining elegant.

Note: I want to touch on something regarding olfactory fatigue. When I see a comment about a quality fragrance such as this disappearing after a half hour, I know this is not possible. Either a watered down sample was received or it must have been spot sniffed shortly after spraying when can result in significant olfactory fatigue and temporary hyposmia that can last for hours or even days in some cases. That is why people will say a fragrance disappeared but came back later in the day. In most cases, it didn't really go anywhere, their nose just started working again. If you find this happening with a certain fragrance, try avoiding breathing through your nose when you spray it and for as long as possible afterward. I have this problem with many high quality fragrances (because they are so potent) so I avoid breathing through my nose for at least 10 minutes if possible and I do NOT spot sniff anything ever. It solved the problem.

I had another scent made up in my mind (I thought of a smokey, sultry, come hither perfume), reading the notes I was sure I would love this....
But alas! A boring powdery and faint fragrance, doesn't last even a half hour on my skin...

Rose perfume is enough of Tom Ford in terms of very magnificence and Alfoahan smell and consistency
MY RATING perfume:
Persistence: 8/10
Alfohan: 10/10
Smell: 9/10
I hope you experience the fragrance before you buy, and when you give it a chance to take a sample of it before they judge him quickly

One of my most favourite scents is the classic, common tea rose. It grows unassisted in the suburbs of Stockholm, between the concrete and the children playing on swings. It grows in the asphalt and graphite gardens between little entrances where people go up to their small apartments and where families from different parts of the world cook their unusual and tasty smelling dinners.
In my late teens and early twenties I used to sniff them every time I walked past, even though it usually wasn't even necessary, because the scent lingered in the balmy never ending twilight that is the Swedish summer night.

Cafe rose smells like a summer night when I was very young and very carefree. It is extremely calming, it is simple, nearly soliflore on me, there is tea blending in, perhaps a small cup of coffee resonating between the warmed up walls of the apartments, someone smoking a cigarette, a discreet giggle when a boy is kissing a girl goodbye on the doorstep. Urban romance. There is no refinery to this yet, it smells rich. Rich in it's simplicity and rich in memories.

I love Noir de Noir, this is not the same, nor do I think was it ever intended to be. NdN is several hours earlier. NdN has taken off her shoes or tie, the jacket, nonchalantly swinging over the shoulder, walking home after a particularly exhausting party. It is bright already, the dew lingers on the rose petals... Oh that kiss earlier was so nice... I will sleep and wake up and there might be a text message on my phone. And perhaps we shall dance again in the Swedish summer night.
