PLUMPIE

Spicy and sexy but cool at the same time. A polarizing amber floriental that has the clove and cardamom of my beloved Spellbound by Estee Lauder. This got shelved for years when I started wearing KL and Obsession but I recently rediscovered this one and am really enjoying it. I have many of Jacques' creations and this is definitely a masterpiece. I like the plastic push button spray case which has the same gimmicky feel as Gucci Rush.

Wow! This is a powerhouse fragrance!! I overpayed for a 30ml ($75) but it is full and that’s a reasonable price nowadays- oh, how I wish I had known about it when it sold for $20!!!
This smells a lot like Shanghai lily! Nu opens up almost the same but less of the “metallic clove” in Nu I get a sweet, aromatic cardamom. Nu also turns quite floral and slightly soapy on my skin but it’s really gorgeous. Smells nothing like black cashmere- BC leans more masculine and is more incense and dry woods. I have one spray on the back of my hand and I smell it everytime I move.
I’m happy to have this strange little puck

I scored a bottle of this sometime between 2005 and 2010, can’t remember exactly, but it’s in the disc bottle, and one side is silver the other is a dark blue. I bought it because it was cheap, marked down on clearance, for 20 bucks or something. I had no idea it was a holy grail of perfumes. At first spray, what the hell did I buy?! Strong, spicy peppery! I did not care for it at first, but seems to be the norm for me with spicy scents, they have to grow on me! I have learned to not spray on my neck or chest, no more than 2 sprays and because it is so rich and rare, I wear probably 4x a year or so! I don’t care for the bottle, super 80’s, in my opinion! Once you get used to it, it is a very rich, luxurious, divine scent with great longevity and silage! Perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas! Cardamom, bergamot, incense, pepper, sandalwood, and musk! I think this one got me loving bergamot! I have Si, Lolita and so far that’s the only one that I would say reminds me of Nu. There’s a resemblance, but not a dupe! I need to find a good substitute because I’ll be lucky if my bottle lasts another year! The longevity on this is amaze balls, I could still smell it 12 hours later and the dry down is divine! It’s a rich, musky vanilla!

Sauce God

Early 2000's masterpiece by Jacques Cavallier for Yves Saint Laurent under Tom Ford's creative direction.

This is my hidden gem. Most people have never smelled something like this on a man. When I put this on people ask me all the time what I'm wearing, and I don't mind telling anyone cause I know damn well nobody will be finding this juice.

It's kind of in the same realm as Black Orchid; they both have that orchid note done in a very sophisticated 'Tom Ford' type of manner. The dry down of sandalwood, vetiver and musk is also very similar. However I dislike Black Orchid and I love Nu.

I would say Nu is the predecessor, the initial inspiration. The biggest difference lies in the opening & middle notes: Nu is less flowery and fruity, and more smoky and spicy. It's just absolutely spellbinding and completely unisex. If you can get your nose on this go for it!

Blind bought a 100ml tester in the silver puck bottle that had been sprayed a few times. I find that while lovely, it is not for me. Willing to sell to any Nu lovers out there. US based.

Back in the early aughts the world was blessed with innovative, unique, and great fragrances. They were seductive and brash. They had their own personalities. They were ahead of their time. YSL’s Nu falls into this category.

If this was released today it would be a smash hit. Instead we have a barrage of flankers from Black Opium, La Vie Est Belle, Mon Paris, etc. They have their devoted fans and the fragrances sell well. It makes business sense. However, in my opinion they don’t offer anything truly different between each release.

Tom Ford was at YSL when this was released. His influence is apparent. This reminds me slightly of Black Orchud, and later in his Private Blend collection a fragrance entitled Shanghai Lily was released, which is a total dupe of this, but also was discontinued.

It’s time for fragrance houses to move away from th sickly sweet perfumes that permeate the shelves, and bring back some sexiness with perfumes like this. This is sex in a bottle. It’s unique, it’s vulgar, it isn’t meek. The scent is very incense heavy with floral notes that sit in the background such as jasmine, orchid. Cardamon gives it some spiciness.

Fans of this fragrance would buy this in droves, and those who haven’t tried it would likely fall for its allure. YSL bring it back!

I’ve coveted a few hockey puks of Nu I rarely wear it as I know it’s precious juice.
I recently gave away one and I later regretted it as I know the man I gave it to wouldn’t realise the beauty and value of Nu.
It’s a rich decadent spicy luscious fragrance very sensual and erotic.
I imagine myself lounging in my lacey lingerie fragrance wafting around me making me feel aroused.
It makes me feel sexy and unique as I know the masses won’t have access to this long gone beloved perfume. YSL should not have discontinued this beauty.
What can I say I’m hopelessly hooked.

YSL Nu—This has an opening similar to Costume National Homme but not as good. I always love cardamom and bergamot featured in both these. But Homme has the delicious clove and cinnamon, whereas this has florals that mar the smell in my opinion.
Later on Nu reminds me greatly of Tam Dao--must be thanks to a similar type of sandalwood. So, I give Nu points for making an interesting and VERY substantial transformation--it is a shape shifter for sure. But ultimately, since Tam Dao is something I adore (as is Homme for that matter), I am better off to wear one of my favorites, and not have to "split my mood" so to speak.

My sister gave me just ... un cadeau ... today.
An YSL NU box with 50ml eau de parfum ( FULL!) and a soap bar , sealed!.... heaven heaven heaven, yes this is heaven to me.
I am still in shock, so so so nice of her ( k hou van je liefien xx) and oh my .... how I missed this parfum .... I told her after I bought zara s 'vibrent leather for her' that it reminded me of Nu Ysl a littlebit, but now I can smell that there is no simmilarity at all, and I don t no anymore why I thought of NU back than and, but I don t recret telling my sister!
Unbelievable, the scent is still the same unique beauty!
Can t believe! after all those years, NU is suddenly in my life again, wow!

Carnal, like intertwined bodies, in a realm of pleasure, in union and delight of being desired. Mystical as the twilight that hides the most lustful secrets, where mysteries are conceived, and we voluntarily lose ourselves in the freedom of be ourselves. Luminous, such as love, in the comfort of being who you are, and knowing you are loved.

On my skin, Nu comes alive in an explosion of pepper, accompanied by a scalding bergamot. Gradually it launches the top notes into deeper waters... cardamom emerges, with its spicy aromatic aspect, followed by incense, creating a smoky green chord.

Continuing to a highly carnal heart, with the blossoming of white flowers, where the orchid and jasmine make everything more libidinous. At this point the musk gently permeates the entire fragrance.

Nu becomes increasingly languid and woody, due to the presence of sandalwood and vetiver, the latter contributing even more to the smoky aspect of the fragrance. This fragrant frenzy persists for a long time, projecting more at first, leaving a large trail.

Created in 2001, the structure of this perfume is oriental and evokes a timeless, almost futuristic era, also represented by its bottle, with its minimalist design, typical of the vibe of the beginning of the millennium. On the outside metallic, cylindrical, on the inside, a deep cobaltic blue. This combination is perfectly cohesive with the concept of its soft and modern essence, yet mysterious and striking.

The presentation is also very coherent: the unique bottle, inside a transparent smoked plastic box. Nu is uncovered, but at the same time hermetic. Simple but enigmatic, just like a naked body is something discovered, albeit full of mysteries.

Nu reflects the minimalist fashion of his own period, but ends up going against the tide. His eroticism is sober, refined and essentially intellectual, transforming his natural charm and distinction into a real power of attraction. A modern oriental, spicy, and above all balsamic, thanks to the mastery of its perfumer, Jacques Cavallier, and the briefing of its mentor, Tom Ford.

Its aura also reminds me of YSL's “le smoking” fashion, a hybridism of male and female aspects, creating an androgynous, sensual and elegant fragrance. It is in this aspect that Nu establishes a completely shareable fragrance, just like a tuxedo. Even the typography of his name contextualizes this egalitarian and dualistic aspect: “nu” is written in lowercase letters, where one is exactly the opposite of the other.

Nu is about being pure and sinful, sincere and mysterious, dark and radiant, modern and primal, feminine and masculine. Ethereal and carnal beauty, dirty and transparent, perfectly contextualized and never exaggerated. A sacred and profane elixir.

A purifying perfume, led by the incense, which since ancient times is used to elevate the spirit, symbolizing the link between earth and heaven, between the carnal and divine.

Pleasure is a space to giving in. Nu is my olfactory signature, and wearing it is my act of surrender.

Without nu, I feel naked. With nu, I find my self.

Nu EDP by Yves Saint Laurent is gone but not forgotten. I tested the EDT several years ago, and I recall it being very heavy with the pepper and incense notes. I lamented at the time that I didn't get the opportunity to test the much sought after EDP. Fast-forward a few years, I am now testing Nu in the vintage EDP concentration.

Surprisingly, Nu EDT is the stronger of the two variants. Nu EDP is much softer and smoother on the skin with cardamom, pepper, white flowers, bergamot, sandalwood and white musk. It's an intimate fragrance that projects very little.

Despite the age of my small decant, the scent doesn't smell expired. The top notes, (which are usually the first to go), are still present with a bright bergamot opening. The heart is comprised of aromatic cardamom, pepper and incense. The base is woods heavy with sandalwood and vetiver on a bed of clean white musk.

I have come to realise that the EDP is the more wearable version of Nu, with a soft, creamy feel and a very subtle smoky incense vibe. The EDT has more 'zing' with sharp pepper, denser incense accords and a stronger projection. Usually, it would be the other way around.

Nu EDP may not project as strongly as one would hope, however, the longevity is superb, lasting approximately seven hours on the skin. Nu EDP is perfect for Autumn and Winter, and could even be a safe, inoffensive choice for the office.

Sadly, bottles of Nu have become rarities in recent years and sourcing a bottle is incredibly difficult. I would only purchase a bottle if I felt it absolutely necessary. Nu EDP is a beautiful fragrance, but I doubt it is worth the amount of money it's currently fetching online.

Lately, I have been interested in adding more incense fragrances to my collection. Nu has definitely been a great acquisition. The cardoman is quite strong at first, which I don't mind, as it's a note I really enjoy. It is soon joined by a spicy and smokey incense accord that is present through the mid notes through the dry down. It's beautiful, and very sexy. It is joined by a creamy sandalwood that softens the composition, keeping it from becoming overly spicy without obliterating it.

The silage and projection are strong. This is a fragrance that can be too much if over-sprayed. Wrists and neck work well for me. As for longevity, I sprayed several hours ago and it is still projecting. This is not a skin scent!

I do not know how this compares to the newer version, and it's unlikely I will even compare them. It's becoming difficult to find, and what I have seen leans towards the pricey side. Mine is a 10 ml spray, but given the strength, I think even that size will last for a while. I don't know exactly how much influence Tom Ford had in the creation, but I think it must have been significant as it seems to be a prototype of many of his Private Collection scents. I will say that like a large percentage of TF's fragrances, it is unisex. Others say it leans masculine, but on me, I would say that I find it to be feminine because it certainly makes me feel seductive!

This is a love for me, and I can tell already that this will be one I reach for for evening events in the winter, though honestly, I would wear it in the daytime as well. I don't think this would be safe for office wear given it's potency. I highly recommend it to all who appreciate incense and oriental fragrances.

My mother had a jar of Nu scented cream she got somewhere. As an awkward teenager, on really special occasions, I used to rub some on my wrists and behaind my ears. It smelled mysterious, dangerous and sexy. I felt instantly more interesting when I put it on. It was aromatic, it was incense-y, but also clean, and imposing, and flirtatious, and bold.
I came here and was heartbroken upon learning it was discontinued. Oh how I wish to smell you again, Nu, to feel like a mystical powerful witch. I became a grown woman in the meantime - I have a feeling I could completely own this fragrance.

flocco

I commanded 2 perfumes and they arrived the same day : Habanita from molinard and Nu .... I first tried habanita and I can say now that this mythical fragrance is definitively not for me. On the other arm I put Nu and there the miracle I had already in 2001 happened again : i just adore Nu for its fine scents, a little bit metallic and powdery and with sandalwood. What another world compared to Habanita !Nu is a real skin perfume, longlasting but subtil, its intimate, for oneself, to smell just befor going to bed..... It seems to survive although it has some years behind. I got the metallic bottle.....so happy to re-discover this. It reminds me a little bit of Dune from Dior.....

Waltzing Matilda

I have the vintage in the silver disc packaging courtesy of a great swap with hiram.j. I agree with 6opar. I love spicy fragrances and this one leans towards being masculine. I think my son will be inheriting this one - he loves anything TF. Thanks for the very pleasing swap hiram.j - it certainly will be used and enjoyed.

6opar

During his stay at YSL Tom Ford gifted us three absolutely great fragrances - Nu, Rive Gauche PH and M7 (pillars).
And some excellent flankers - Kouros cologne Sport and Body Kouros.

Since his leave this revered house went on a flanker trip that they have not yet returned from. I did try Y in edp, and it’s ok, but nothing remarkable. I am yet to test Libre. My point is that these three fragrances under TF were most likely the last great YSL pillars. (Not a fan of the ~ 20 and counting L’Homme / Le Nuit releases) And yes, these three YSL classics were early signs of things to come for Mr. Ford.

Nu is marketed for women because I guess men are not supposed to look in the mirror. Wrong, this is more masculine than many recent “male” fragrances. Oddly enough I find the way the heavily spicy incense is counterattacked by the light flowery accord very similar to the way the Kouros-ity is reduced by the flowery accord in Kouros Cologne Sport.

Nu is amazing, and I am happy I have this mirror to look into once in a while. It’s incensy, it’s fresh, it’s piquant and intimate with a slight touch of indecency under it all that is just the cherry I need.

My bottle with a batch from 2001 smells like the sandalwood used is of very high quality, milky woody heaven.

I remember this when it came out and thought it was so unique and different at the time. I felt it was time for a revisit (I'm a Tom Ford fan) so I found a vintage bottle on line and was surprised no one countered my opening bid. Although its 18 years old, it was in good enough condition but maybe slightly stale. It's always a risk buying any vintage fragrance as I'm usually disappointed in the condition. Although slightly old smelling, it was good enough to wear and analyze.
This is a smooth soft sweet sandalwood. It's sweeter than I remember, linear, and kind of one dimensional. As much as I kinda like it, I can see why it wasn't very commercially successful. This isn't a "wow" knock your socks of scent, but maybe it wasn't supposed to be. Its tame, doesn't change or evolve at all, and too sweet for my taste. It's also way too sweet to be considered unisex. Kind of modern and unique but its not much more in my eyes.
Anyone want to trade, let me know. Look at my profile and see my "wants" maybe we can make a deal.

Bubbles1964

Thanks for the info Tater Cakes, bad storage happens. I’m open to trying Nu again if the situation presents itself. I appprecitate the feedback.

Tater Cakes

Bubbles1964 there is a good chance the sample you purchased was exposed to direct light and/or stale. If that is in fact the case, I'm sorry that happened. Buying vintage fragrances is such a gamble.

Many fragrances get lost on my skin within a few hours. More than half of those I've tried, sadly. I can honestly say this is not one of them. Today, I am wearing the original formulation. The bottle was produced/purchased in 2006. Applied it at 4am and six hours later it is still present. By this evening it will still be detectable.

Taking care as to how you store fragrances makes all the difference. Regrettably, not everyone sees it the same. Don't give up on this one. I truly think if you had a good sample the outcome would be totally different.

Coquita

I have an ambivalent relationship with this one. On the one hand, I dislike its over-the-top incense opening; I feel like a walking-danish church. On the other hand, I like the slightly citrusy, spicy dry-down. Even if this phase is also rich in incense, the scent mixes well with the spices and the flowers, creating a unique and captivating feel.
Given the projection and the strong smell, I'd only wear it at night in colder days, but I'm still pondering if I'd wear it at all.

11/30/19 EDIT: Totally changed my mind. I tried this for the second time on a winter night and it is just plain gorgeous. The incense-woods concoction just works. It also has a plastic-citrus-spicy vibe that takes out the heaviness and complements the main accords so well. I will definitely put it on my night-out rotation.

I deeply appreciate honest reviews . When I see a member who loves every fragrance she smells and never finds fault , I question the validity of reviews.

Since perfumes are luxuries, we have to make careful choices using discretion. No one likes to waste a hard earned dollar , and the truth is that a fancy price does not insure a fragrance that will last longer than an hour .

Thanks to members here ( like Bubbles ) who are tactful, polite, and honest .

Bubbles1964

Second wearing and I'm a bit disappointed with Nu's performance, and I'm thinking my manufacturer's sample purchased off ebay is old, or off.

I love the first 30 minutes. Spicy but soft, I pick up incense and sandalwood with a citrus twist. A little bit of powder too. Before the first hour is over, this fades to nothing. I can't pick it up, not a trace even with my nose pushed up against my skin.

If I ever cross paths with Nu again, I'll give it another try.

wendyyparty

The first time I tried it I kept smelling my wrist for the rest of the day.

If God is real, why Nu must be discontinued? #sob

cmbing

Rich spicy woody oriental with a remarkable opening which dries down on my skin reminding me of Fahrenheit Absolute.

Since I have the latter I'm willing to part with my newly acquired 50ml vintage Nu EDP. Anyone interested give me a msg, I'd send it within Europe only.

radionicapuz

I loved it very much. Smells very interesting and unusual. Looking forward to get it again.

This review is for the disc shaped bottle. Not really sure of the beige one.

To start, I can really see this as truely unisex. In a good way. Having said that, as a woman you have to feel like wearing a masculine scent to enjoy this. I suppose a bit of self assurance is needed.

Now to the scent...I get mostly balsam / woodsy with a citrusy tone. Linear. But this is good. No need for complexity hete as it is a warm, soft wood svent that is very alluring and sensual.

A great fragrance.

Lends itself to cool weather, work as it is not overwhelming, or evening. A little goes a long way, great staying power.

Though I love wearing it, I would find it very attractive on a man also.

Iki Rizki

What the wonderfull scent.. totally unisex.
The notes blended together makes it very seductive. Spicy at opening and turn on sweet sexy muskuline, love it very much. (I'm talking the vintage edp version).
Very long lasting and project very well. Yes, it's Tom Ford quality.
9/10 for me.

MadLynne

Nu - I still own the original vintage version. I used to have also the lotion, the shower gel. But the best of all - even better than the Edp was the body creme. I wished the perfume would have been more creamy.

ginnywho

I had this one in the cute little discus shaped bottle, but alas! On me it smelled like a combination of sweat and a boiled boot. I'm so envious of those who can carry this off, but I'm just not one of the lucky ones :( I hate it when my chemistry does this to me.

ex-grayspoole

Nu was created by Jacques Cavillier in 2001 during Tom Ford's brief tenure at Yves Saint Laurent. I am reviewing the vintage EDP in the silver disk. There are a few variants of this perfume, including an EDT, also by Cavallier in 2002, and a La Collection Nu from 2011.

I love incense notes, but I dithered about buying Nu because I was concerned that it would be too sweet (the vintage EDP is not). I was also suspicious of the "orchid" note. Orchid notes are created synthetically, and we have a few orchids in pots at home that are completely scentless, so orchid perfume notes are always just a big ? in my mind. Finally, I ordered it, and I have been really pleased, even with the odd silvery hockey puck flacon.

Nu opens with tangy green bergamot and somewhat bitter wafts of smoke, as well as some sharp pepper. I enjoy this assertive opening, but I must add that Nu changes dramatically in time, becoming much warmer and sweeter and more floral (with what I guess could be orchids but what might just as well be jasmine and ylang ylang to me), lots of smooth sandalwood and a hint of frankincense. Nu's drydown is all ambery, lovely woods. I can't really confirm that cardamom is Nu's main spice note. Perhaps. In the drydown, Nu does smell as though it has pinch of sweet curry powder or garam masala in it.

I think anyone could wear Nu. The vintage EDP is a long-lasting, beautifully crafted spicy incense perfume.

Sherihan

I found 3bottles of this original NU, and the bottle is a work of contemporary art.
The smell is identical to som of Tom Ford's current perfumes. It was really a futuristic trend YSL was trying to creat but failed. It was a Niche kind of scents, and even the natural ingredients smells so real that no wonder it was discontinued quickly.

Cherry_Darling

This is a beautiful spicy Christmas scent - with a soft floral sweetness but definitely an identifiable woodsiness to it. Lots of cardamon which I LOVE. This is a little like Estee Lauder Cinnebar without the strong florals and soapiness imho.

sarahvigne

The insence and spice in this are Christmassy, like going to church after eating Christmas pudding! I love it for this and I like to wear it in winter. I smelt it first on a woman who was getting dressed to go out. I was on another floor, and the smell carried. I instantly wanted the scent for myself.
I still have the bottle which I sniff occasionally and remind myself of that time in my life. It would suit any aged woman, but it's not a smell most women would like, it's dry and peppery, almost masculine if you had to stereotype it.

Madrona

Mm. Spicy. Fresh peppery goodness with an invigorating touch of bergamot and plenty of deep muskiness. It is certainly a shame that this one was discontinued.

[review originally posted on MakeupAlley 2005]:
This review is for the edp (I also love the edt and plan to get it for layering). This is the most gorgeous tainted incense scent I have ever smelled. Merely the mention of wild orchid describes the mood for me. Apologies for not writing a more content based review, but this one makes me emotional:)
Super sexy, weird packaging which somehow fits, keeps my nose glued to my wrists...reminds me of the hottest nights out I've ever had.
Presented by a Serge Lutens/ Shiseido SA at the Berlin Galeries Lafayette, it was like being given a jewel. Nursed a sample and bit the bullet buying the purse size spray (30 ml), even at a discount I find it slightly pricey for a non-niche or a mainstream perfume.
It seems, and I hope, it is here to stay. Mysterious, alluring, brooding, spot and bang on IMO, a bit heavy handed and brash, but sweetly, like a swath of dark blue envelopping satin silk.

Orchidee e gelsomini argentei, metallici, algidi e lucenti come lame.

At home, it is bright, strong hit of incense. There is immediate recognition, that candle you loved that you wished you could bottle. It works with cotton and skin. Warm and familiar in an enclosed, relaxed space

Out in the world, this wears me. The enveloping incense from at home becomes a dense wall. There is a separation between me and my incense armor. Masculine and heavy-handed

Could be that it breaks apart a little on my skin--longevity is good but where it ends is very different from where it begins. Sandalwood and incense change and florals are exposed (I don't think they were intended to be at the forefront)

Very noticeable

I would expect a dense incense like this to be perfect for winter and sweaters, but am wondering if it wouldn't work better for spring rain, make even summer street festivals

Carah

On my skin and on my clothes I only smell cardamom and incense, which is rather unattractive and repulsive. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone, I was given it as a gift about 10 years ago and it's still full and unused. The bottle is so cool though, that I enjoy having it as a decoration ;)

The onset of Nu (EDP 2001)is confusing: too strong and bitter, almost medicinal and masculine smell, it softens later and its heart is subversive but divine; pure black magic: woody, spicy, smoky with a hint of incense and a coffee note (even though there is no coffee in the recipe). The scent doesn't come across as a flowery one to me (Nu EDT 2003 is definitely more flowery version, because of the addition of neroli to its head and also iris to its heart)
But what I adore most of all in this fragrance is its base - androgynous potion of sandalwood, musk and vetiver and yet it smells surprisingly feminine and sexy on my skin.
Overall, Tom Ford's creation is superb- integral and harmonious scent of sophisticated woman: sensual and spiritual, celestial and sexy. And she is exquisitely dressed too. Total Solar Eclipse!!! Isnt she gorgeous?!!!
My homage and million thanks to the Master.
As usual all fragrances that I love seem to be not in favour of popular tastes and therefore are discontinued. The gem has been lost....again and again...

And a new gem has been found in Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez 2014, that I would suggest to try for all lovers of Nu O:-)

Phew this one really is intense! I finally got myself a small, used bottle of it after lusting over it for ages. (About the bottle; I actually think it's lovely. I really like the design and the color is downright cool!)

I sprayed it on in anticipation and was greeted by an electrifying cardamom note, graced with the slight zing of bergamot. It's quite intense and loud. The heartnotes appear quite quickly: the cardamom is joined by a heavy, dark pepper (does that make sense lol), which is complemented by a lovely incense note. Soon after these two notes appear a super indolic floral comes forth. I don't recognize it as the orchid note though, it's rather a very intense jasmine. It's verging on headache inducing but it's balanced by the other notes (thank god). At this point the fragrance is something of a red hot flash - a sizzling fire with scouring sparkles.
The drydown is more to my liking. The sandalwood appears, supported by a dusty vetiver and semi dirty musk. It still maintains the spicyness and slight floralness, though. Spiced and smooth!
Sillage is huge, longevity is outstanding. The EdT is in comparison a lot more floral, sheer and dries down to a slightly peppered vanilla iris combo. At the moment, I still prefer the EdT, simply because the jasmine comes off almost too strong on my skin in the EdP formulation. Need to try it a few more times, I'm sure it can turn into a love for me. Still recommended though!

I know that this is a bit of a cult classic, if the term can be applied to perfume, but I really don't get it. Since I love spicy scents, it made perfect sense at the time to blind buy a mini of vintage Nu for ten bucks. It's interesting, distinctive, and has real personality, but it's a personality that I don't get along with very well. The florals smell like cloyingly sweet bubblegum, and the bubblegum florals and stale dusty spices vividly bring to mind the white dust that coats pink bubblegum to keep it from sticking to the gum wrapper.

Yurpdod

Many modern commercial fragrances are criticized for being "front-loaded," meaning that all of the best notes and the olfactory interest of the fragrance occurs immediately after spraying, and then sort of piddles out throughout the midnotes and drydown. This makes the perfume more appealing to someone quickly testing it on a store shelf, and makes it less likely that wearers will be bothered by a fragrance becoming cloying over time.

YSL's Nu is interesting because it is the complete opposite. The very onset is a little confusing and busy, but the midnotes and drydown are really the best parts of this fragrance. It starts off very spicy-amber and smells almost like a medicinal serum. It's not bad but it doesn't really smell like an actual fragrance that you would spray on. After about 10-15 minutes the cardamom, pepper, and vetiver soften and meld into the sensual floral, sandalwood, and incense notes. There is also a comely skin-scent musk underneath everything that makes the composition smell confident and nubile.

Just a note on the bottle -- I think it is extremely chic and one of the best designs I've ever seen. It's a little difficult to tell how it functions from photos, but the outside is a silver hockey puck shape that can be opened up to reveal a deep purple inside where you can spray out the fragrance. It looks beautiful sitting on a shelf but is also completely protected if you wish to throw it in your handbag. Nu is a lovely, thoughtful fragrance and I enjoyed getting to try it out.

dioraddictfan

YSL used to have some really brilliant perfumes. I enjoyed perfumes of that time (early 2000's) when florientals seemed to rule the world. I loved YSL's Nu and Dior Addict were my staples. This is a musky scent that is pure sex. Love it! Tom Ford was in charge around that time and even in his Private Blend he seems to conjur up this scent in his Shanghai Lily. It's sad to see what YSL churns out now, I miss scents like this one and Cinema. A lost art form it seems. This is a lovely incence scent. It includes bergamot, cardamom, elemi, white orchid, wild orchid, black pepper, sandalwood, musks, incense and olibanum.

lemmenkukka

Finally I got this beautiful gem. This is captivating, alluring and yearning like some classical music sympony in C minor! This is September in a box; last warming rays of the summer sun gone with beautiful memories, romances and so. This is great for meditation, it´s like a soft comforting friend. I like this so much!!!

This perfume is a terrific masterpiece. The fragrance I am referring to is the EDP vintage, circular blue which has a plastic metallic appearance. It is like one is smelling a fragrance fruit cake loaded with alcohol, cinnamon, nutmeg, spices and candied fruit. The smell it strong but lingers into a comfortable and festive array of notes. It reminds me of obsession, original opium Must be Cartier and the original Fendi all rolled into one. It is a sweet musky fragrance which evolves. In my perfume collection it is a must have fragrance. I give a 10/10 for quality, style, strength, silage and luxury. It last over 8 hrs on fabric. It reminds me of the finest quality of musky and floral incense. While there are not many notes in the pyramid the perfume is delicious. It also reminds me of the perfume Madness, but it is less boozy and with more incense. It reminds of a celebration. I think of a bold, confident women wearing this fragrance because it represents sweetness, strength, celebration, luxury and fine dining rolled into one. If you have an opportunity to try it, do.

Lape_snape

At first sniff, I thought it's too much to me - too strong, too heavy, too mature. And then - oh my - I fell in love. It's rich, deep, sexy in a femme fatale way. Not seductive like TF Black Orchid or Dior Addict, but sexy itself with no purpose to use it - Tornatore's Malena kind of sexy. Love it.

CeciliaKu

This fragrance is rather captivating.

Nu is quite a spicy and sharp fragrance at first. As it settles, the jasmine and iris tend to create a soft, loving bouquet, which is complimented by rather peppery cardamom. The overall blend has a somewhat smoky aroma.

Nu is not a fragrance for the shy. There are so many dynamic ingredients that it's quite flabbergasting to find how beautifully balanced they all become on the skin. It's an incense-based fragrance, yes. However, the pepper and floral accords really give this fragrance that little something more.

The longevity is really impressive, as is the sillage.

jennylovesjohnny

I found the tester vial that I had been saving since this perfume was launched in the early 2000s. Before spraying it, I recalled the fond memories of having tested this scent when it was first introduced, and thinking, lovely, deep, dark, but too mature for me (I was barely in my twenties).

So today, in 2013, I finally unleashed the spirit in the little vial and immediately I was overcome by a pleasant waft of intense chai latte mixed with incense. Yes, these woods are lovely, dark and deep (Robert Frost), but also sweet, feminine, delicious, warm, enchanting, oh the list goes on... the only thing in my mind right now is.. how many sprays of this amazing smell do I have left in this vial, before it ceases to exist in the realms of reality? I am kicking myself for not having trusted my instinct back in the days, and purchasing a full bottle of this mystical scent.

Glorious. I will be saving it for special occasions.

lindaberlin

Just got this today in the mail. First spray is pepper. I am in love!! After a while the pepper goes away and I get a lot of citrus and spice. Then some wood. Lovely fragrance. Hopefully I will find it again when I need another bottle, as this is a repurchase when this one is empty!

lamont.hubert

another one of my scents that ive had for over 10 years way back in the closet i have this with the big body creme jar and soap love it but now i use
Fragrantica i know it not to be used like i use to... abuse ... all my old Vintage i call 80-90's scents Vintage i use to mix this with LouLou or Anglomanic for night when going out....

likes2paint

This is like walking in a dense fragrant wood in summer. Spicy flowers envelope and then you are dappled in sweet, peppered, sandalwood sunlight. How nice is that!

allexa

Charming, softly enveloping, fascinating, exciting secret, sexy, penetrating to the very core.

Simple masterpiece.

9/10

I'm talking about 2006 version.

Deb2257

I go months without using this then wonder why I don't use it every day when I do. It lasts really we'll and has such a distinctive smell. Love it.

Milladane

I finally opened my bottle of the original EDP in the mysterious puck. I had been so afraid of the cardamom note, as sometimes spices can make a perfume stink. But not here...this woodsy, musky perfume is a warm, deep, smooth, and sensual scent, that makes your mind wander...

It is all about lounging in the dark on a luxurious steel gray silk quilt, exactly like the color of the bottle. Her skin and NU are one and the same. Flickering candles seem to make the sequins on the pillows dance about while you wait. Then it comes...a soft knock at the door...

I wish I had this back when I could have used it to live that scene rather than just to imagine it. This perfume was a wonderful surprise, and next time, I will not wait half a year before opening a sealed bottle of perfume.

Aysu

I can clearly see what inspired Tom Ford when creating Black Orchid. Both Nu and Black Orchid has Tom Ford touch, spices, incense, orchid notes, masculine edge (additional chocolate in BO) ... Both perfumes are superb in my opinion, it may not be everyone's taste but they are quite original and different.

nazza28

Boy oh boy Jacques Cavallier I don't know how you do it but I adore the perfumes you make!! My nose is not experienced enough to pick out any particular notes, maybe because they are blended in such a superb way. But this is a heavenly, heady, sensual rich & decadent floral and wow wow wow just stunning. This ain't for the little girls, this is for a woman and I am in love with Nu!

Jernê Knowles

Nu EDP (Yves Saint Laurent)

Mais uma excepcional criação do ilustríssimo Jacques Cavallier, pai do Trouble, Cinema, Elle, M7, Stella, Alchimie, Poeme, Classique e flankers, L’eau d’Issey, Hot Couture, Initial, Murmure, Midnight Poison e Kingdom... Ufpa!

Créditos a minha Amiga Andréa Faria Klimber!

I have had a bottle of this for years because it reminds me of a special place/event. I almost never wear it - it's one of those perfumes that has appealing elements, but is not quite balanced: I like the woodiness and spices, but overall it's too shrill, and a little too sweaty. The bottle leaks if it falls sideways, so it must be kept upright. I've tried the version in the off-white bottle: new, but not improved.

woodlandwalk

I loved the opening of Nu - so richly woody and warm - it's the dry-down that doesn't work for me. The Vetiver and pepper (synthetic sandalwood?)are quite hard, I'm left with zero vanilla or incense.

I find vetiver in perfume varies drastically. Having owned high quality vetiver essential oil, I know that it's very pungent, but it's not necessarily sharp, it's more intense, almost smoky. I can't see what else would cause this harsh dry-down, though it could be a synthetic sandalwood. If that's the case it's a pity because the original Nu, with quality sandalwood, would have been lovely.

kozeliou

It's too much for me, but my husband wear it. Even for him is strong and spicy. I think it matches better on men.Way to mascular than other men perfumes. I like aquattic floral or white floral perfumes with some lemon.

Galya

I had only little decant of this perfume and I was so surprised by how it is ugly! Really,as some very very cheap masculine cologne with a lot of artificial spices .

whoopsies

I actually nicked this perfume from my parents' closet and have been wearing it for around a week now and I am really loving the spice and woody notes in this. And to be honest, only now did I find out that it was a female fragrance! The oriental spice, musk and incense really spoke to me and I am totally loving this. Don't care that it says its for women, the juice is so amazing that it can easily the perfect unisex fragrance.

Tater Cakes

Sad to say, the new formulation doesn't hold a candle to the original. It is almost like having a "virgin" drink. So thankful I have 5 bottles in reserve of the original. I can't imagine not having this as part of my rotation.

Roshap

GOR-juss! One of my absolute favorites. The current reformulation is not a bad fragrance, but the original (edp only) is glorious. So smooth and atmospheric and evocative. All the incense, flowers, spices and gorgeousness. I don't love the "hockey puck" bottle though. Today I layered it with prada oeillet, and I felt like they worked very well together.

Assiduosity

A truly sacred and profane perfume Nu is probably best summed up by the phrase 'orgy in the temple'.

With a deft hand it mixes conventions of Eastern and Western worship - opening with olibanum, cardamon and bergamot giving way to oriental florals.

It then proceeds to an highly sexualised heart; all pagan pepper and more frankincense this time with animalic musk.

This fragrant frenzy persists for proper period, though it is more tantric in the prefereable Eau de Parfum than its bang for you buck less spiritual cousin.

In both the drydown is sandalwood soft and gently reflective, possibly tinged with a subtle regret or is it a passion hangover?

Who cares? Ultimately, strip away away the symbolism and everyone's in it for the ride!

Unisex?

Bi-sexual more like.

I don't think this one's too fussy about all those fuzzy male female distinctions...

jivaswood

This is, no doubt, my favorite scent. I usually say that NU is the new Feminité du Bois, not by the similarity, but by discontinuity and by difficulty of finding. He has just becoming a new legend, that arouses interest and curiosity of those who have never felt it. I had the privilege to know it in 2002, just one year after its launch. It's funny, I tested it at the same time of M7. NU I loved it instantly, M7 I hated it instantly. Feeling paradoxical but instinctive. I still have saved some bottles, it is very difficult to find. I have both the EDP (raw and androgynous) and EDT (is softer and floral). It's my scent, because I chose it for me, regardless of other people use it or don't like it.

5*/5*!!!

cleo cupcake

I wanted to like this and when I finally tracked it down - it turned out to be very harsh and one dimensional on my skin. A get a very aggressive, almost sour woody thing which was very disappointing - but it smells great on my husband. He gets all the smoky, earthy and moody, mystery darkness that I was hoping for - so I get to enjoy smelling it on him and that's a win for me.

atiet97

Well well well.....as much as I want to love Nu because of the edgy looking packaging, I couldn't 100% love this stuff. It's kinda roller coaster for me. Hate it, hmm...okay with it and finally love it.

Although I love cardamon, the blend of the top notes is just wrong, doesn't fit my chemistry at all. It's just too much cardamon + something else, which turns sour like I'm having a BO. IMO the top notes somehow has similar vibe with DK, Chaos, a little bit sour and yet spicy.

The mid notes is better though, it gets calmer the annoying sourness is gradually missing. The floral is there and a little bit powdery with hints of earthy vetiver.

But the drydown is WOW. It's smokey with a touch of sweetness. It somehow reminds me of Corso Como 10, but without the dominant oud. Instant LOVEEE!!!

Well, I'm coming in late to post a review for this perfume. It's been on my wishlist for years, I even lost my Addict in trying to obtain one of this from an unfair swapper... as we speak, I'm waiting for a decant from somebody, while I managed to get my hands on a large full tester of the old NU, in the metal round bottle.
Blind bought, it lightened my wallet considerably.
Well, what can I say.... sometimes we don't know what we're wishing for... it's a Wood$Spice Bomb!

It openes with a blast of pepper and cinamon, darker even than the old Addict.it's spices and red woods, bloody red if you ask me. While the bottle/box is a deep cold royal blue inside, the juice is sizzling hot red in smell.
It doesn't help that I am testing in July, in the middle of a heat wave, but this one is for sure a fragrance for the coldest darkest winter nights...reminds me of naked bodies in front of a fireplace, right there on the floor adornished with furs, the light is dancing shaddows on their flesh, spilled red cider on the floor
when tender kisses turn to bites...
well, it's July and I can't feast on this beast...
wake up, and splash some fresh citrus cologne, and get myself to do what I am suposed to do
is it for me?
I wanted it for so long, and now that I have it... it was better when I didnt.
might have to swap it, I don't know.

Rafarera

i just love it its the prefect parfume ever ever for me

dontcallmyname

The other day I faced this fragrance - the original version of EDP, sniffed it on my skin and was absolutely astonished! It has got the deep colour of whiskey and a slight stylish taste of metallica, in a pleasant way, of course. Everything about it: the bottle, the name and the content is intriguing and alluring, it feels very emotional, but not outspoken, it's rather still in the state of readiness for action - blowing up, emotional explosion, whatever, but not in the twister of energy. There's something more to keep than to reveal, more to cover than discover.
This scent contains altogether amazing touches ever that all the perfumes I love contain. It is as sweeet as a dream and I want it.

Kikuyu

My favourite fragrance of all time - I started out with the body cream and then bought the perfume (in 2002). I have never had so many compliments, and so many people (men and women) asking what perfume I was wearing. I mostly wore the cream, it was absolutely wonderful.I miss it so much - I wish it would come back.

lovingthealien

I stumbled upon a nice sealed flacon of this in its original formula.

The bottle is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen. In case one hasn't seen it, it's a silver disk with no markings whatsoever. It opens up like a compact and is a deep translucent ultraviolet inside. It is exceptionally pleasing in a modern industrial way, and it fits very well in your hand.

The bottle aside, the fragrance is a killer. It's sort of like a more stripped down and modern version of the original Fendi fragrance. It's warm and incensey with a very tasteful sandalwood note. It shares the incense note of the modern Opium EDT. One of YSL's best feminine fragrances. It's a shame it's so had to come upon.

pepe7111

clever packaking ,very tactile ,and the smell itself : long lasting and its from the far east...YSL was one of the last century greatest artists..its pity that died

amandame

I had the oldest version of Nu - edp, It was spicy, luxury and winter scent, a little agresive but remarcable. The longevity was great. Today you can find edt formula, weeker and different from edp.

modigliani

nu, la vie dans la nature
nu, ma vie commence avec toi
nu, je t'embrasse
nu, ne me quitte pas

alfarom

Nu perfectly fits my idea that when you find yourself facing a good fragrance, it doesn't matter if it's niche or designer, masculine or feminine, new or vintage, classic or modern...it's just good and all you can do is to enjoy it.

This is when Tom Ford used to be brilliant, passionate and smart just right before his ego turned into an oversized monster. During those years he delivered, together with extremely talented perfumers, a bunch of outstanding fragrances that people still love and will always love (Envy, Envy For Men, Gucci Pour Homme I, Rive Gauche Pour Hommme, M7, a bunch of Kouros flankers....Nu).

The fragrance opens with a catchy citrus/frankincense combo enriched by a modern peppery note. Just terrific. The orchid accord breaks in almost right away introducing a synthetic woody base with a remarkable spicy (cardamom) presence while incense provides a slightly sexy/smoky vibe. Ok, there's something synthetic going on here, but it's nowhere close to the overwhelming assault we often witness in most of today's compositions. The synthetic aspect is carefully balanced with the rest and handled to provide depth and complexity. Perfectly contextualized and never overdone. If you're into spicy orientals you can't miss NU.

Reasonably powerful, long lasting, nice projection. A fine feminine composition that turns to be terrific on a man.

Vintage Nu, very very sensual! One of the most sexy fragrances I had smell. I don't dare to smell its new formula. I made the mistake with the new Y once, and I will not repeat it.

mystica

For the original EDP: Nu smells and makes you feel almost holy. Indeed, that could be the next best thing to Commme des Garçons' Avignon. Finest quality incense (Frankincense and Myrrh, to be smelt in a church or monastery) is finely blended with soothing blackpepper. Some woods on the base complete this masterpiece. Nu really is a divine experience...

*Migraine safe if used carefully.

artsyrn

I get cardamon, spice, pepper initially. It has a musky appeal as well. This could easily be a unisex scent. I think cool evenings will suit me wearing this alluring, mysterious arrangement.

thaocrockett

I could eat myself whenever I wear this perfume, sooo spicy and yummy.
It opens with lots of black pepper and cardamom, blended with some woody scent; very deep and smooth. When it truly dries down, about 3-4 hours later, orchid and bergamot come and make the scent lighter.
It can be perfect in the Winter or Autumn, day or night time.
I think I am addicted to this fume.
This perfume is the only one I buy a backup so far.

reignydaze

The original Nu EDP by YSL was a beautifully mysterious, spicey oriental. I loved the packaging, which seemed new and differant in 2001 as did the fragrance itself. There was a dark sexiness to this that made it a perfect evening fragrance. Good sillage and super longevity....NOW A WARNING... LOREAL HAVE DESTROYED IT. NU by Loreal is a wet and windy cheap copy of NU in the cheapest nastiest bottle. Loreal are fucking up every perfume with integrity that YSL ever produced. It is now cheap juice for mega bucks. I fear to smell the new Y as im still in therapy over the reformulated Opium. Loreal sucks.

sofababe

I like this more and more every time I wear it! I have the original (in the round bottle), given to me by a friend who didn't enjoy it. I love the spiciness and I find it loaded with musk too. The sandalwood in the drydown is just gorgeous. I'd be interested to smell this on a man, I think it would work well.

pattnaik

Nu is the perfect night perfume. Very modern, complex and long lasting. This is for confident outgoing lady. Some say this is gay man's fragrance. Never the less Nu has very masculine top note (pepper) later it turns sweet and spicy.

eilismaireg

The reformulation of this is not great guys, I'm warning you... L'Oreal own them now, and apparently we AREN'T 'worth it'!!!

TankGirl

Nu is the perfect night perfume for a modern lady.
Nu is very masculine at the beggining, with all the breathtaking pepper.
After one hour Nu becomes sandalwood heaven. Soft, spicy, sweet, modern and sexy.
If you cant find this one, or want a cheaper version, go for Ode au Reve by Yves Rocher, they are very similar.
A very good fragrance for ladys that dont appreciate very feminine perfumes and are more in the androginous side.

Endymion

1 more thing. What is with Vica Versa, Live Jazz and Body Kouros?

Lorna_May's_Collection

A friend of mine has tested these new ones. They share bottle design, shape & size. All of them 80 ml and unique price, 77 euros.
He said they have been reformulated for worse and watered. So if you like or use to wear these ones, hurry up to make 'storage' of the current production because very soon it will be difficult to find any of them the way we know by now (presentation, formulation and price). good luck!!!

Endymion

Actually, I never new that M7, Rive Gauche pour homme and Jazz were discontinued!!! :(
(as Y and Yvresse)
They are still available here in their original packaging. I even saw Pour Homme in some places around.

I think it means they stop producing their original packaging now. This means P&G (owner of YSL brand) decided to distinctly separate the new generation and well selling fragrances from old not that popular releases.

I have to pack Rive Gauche pour homme and M7 a lot!!! :)

Bandit

You can find the info on the international YSL website.

The reissues are called "La collection": Nu (EdP), Y, Yvresse and In Love again; for the boys: Rive Gauche PH, Pour Homme, Jazz and M7 Oud Absolu (THAT'S sound intriguing).

Let's hope for the original formula of Nu EdP. But I stay sceptic until sniffed.

Has anybody infos on release dates, availability and prices?

P.S.: Oh, by the way: The funny Nu bottles are "lost". The packaging is different.

boyxtoy

yes, it's trueeeee, nu it's back :D in a special edition from all the oldies but goodies from YSL, ooooooooh i'm so happy :')

Endymion

@JB78: is that true? :)
NU is coming back (with Vica Versa and In Love Again and Y)?

Nu it's gourgeous in the winter, I don't find it in my country anymore... such a pitty, I love it.

Niovi

That was my favorite perfume EVER and I still haven't got over it, nor have I found sth to replace it.
Can some one suggest me sth pls?!
I love the pepper, it makes all the difference tickling my nose, and I love how it has nothing to do with vanilla or rose. It is so special and exotic and warm at the same time!
Please bring it back?!?!? :(

Tigerlillian

Nu opens with strong cardamom, bergamot and pepper--an entrance with a very deliberate statement that says spicy, sexy and sizzling... almost overpowering like a lightning strike. Then suddenly after the loud storm, rain...

Sweet voluptuous drops of milky, musky sap, very prominent with orchid and jasmine. And the musk keeps coming in floods but it's clear and luminous, not cloying.

Beautiful and warm in the drydown with sandalwood adding a wave of sensuality; a drop of vetiver for sophisticated audacity.

Too much musk for me to wear it regularly, so a pass for me.

Louw

I loved the sound of this one, but when I actually tried it I found the musk overpowering and the base a little bitter. Reminds me a bit of Rive Gauche at first. Sadly, this is not for me. I like the design of the bottle, though.

I am not sure if some of you will agree but NU is very much similar to Kingdom by Alexander McQueen. In both cases it was Jacques Cavallier who created the fragrances.
NU is a wonderful mix of woods and spices, I can imagine it to be worn by an executive or company director - it makes a statement, it is powerful and extremely elegant. I would consider it inappropriate to be worn while jogging on a Saturday morning - this fragrance would simply not go with a casual stretchy jumper and leggins.
NU is very spicy with only a hint of jasmine and strong vetiver base. What makes it slightly different from Kingdom is that NU does not oscillate on the borderline between masculine and feminine fragrances - even thought NU is quite strong and hardly floral, it is definitely on the women's side.
I have not own a gem like that for quite a long time :-)
Highly recommended for spicy lovers.
Silage and lasting power are outstanding!

Beautiful, warm, vanilla + spice . Comfortable and essential. I love it! Pure seduction!

Marketed as sexy, and actually was. Positively leer inducing on many occasions. Lots and lots of "you smell niiice.." from guys. It's spicier and cleverer than Dior Addict and its a great shame it was discontinued as it's really the more deserving of your money. But it's initially slightly more sullen than Addict but when it warms up, it really warms up. Addict wants your phone number, but Nu will actually call.. and come round.. and.. and then stay and talk after.

Endymion

I adore this creation from campaing through package and design to the fragrance itself. I thought that it was going to be a HUGE hit, the Opium of the new millenium - as it is mysterious, heavy, dark, smokey, a bit unisex, spicy, unmistakable, memorable, controversial.
Sadly, the opposite happened, the lifeline of NU was short. (I wonder if NU was released under the house of Gucci it would be still available and popular?)

Anyhow, the name NU might not be the best choice as many people disaggree with and don't like it.
IMO the name (YSL) NUIT would suit the fragrance much better as it is dark and myserious (and according to many it's more relaxing than "sexual" or erotic).

Cereza

Oh my god, this is some strong and spicy stuff. On my skin at the first moments it opens with burst of cardamon and pepper. I can feel slight touch of bergamot, but really just slight. At the opening it's almost masculine.
Slowly the orchid hits in and for me the fragrance becomes tiny bit soapy which is not my favourite kind of scent. I prefer them creamy or powdery, but not soapy. When the jasmin appears, it's all fixed.
I'll be honest hear, it's not my style. But this smells lovely and would be a WIN for one who loves spices in their fumes.

Today i went straight to the perfumery shop to buy NU, Edp...
But, bf buying it i decided to give it another try ...
I liked it , i felt it qiute strong, good sillage , for about .......1 hour !!!?
Now it becomed a skin scent , i can feel it only if a stick my nose to my wrist !!!
Nope...i did not buy it bcz of the poor lasting power and the sillage !
Otherwise, the scent is very beautiful and unique . I love the incense note mixed with the musk !!!
I realy love the fragrances with a great sillage and lasting power !!!! What can i do ?!.....:(((..sigh

When I first put on Nu and the fumes floated to the back of my head, it was like a ghost of *something* I had smelled before, but not quite, and I couldn't put my finger on it exactly. Within ten minutes, though, I recognized the similarities to Lanvin's Oxygene! The unmistakable bergamont-pepper duo, and the underlying CREAMINESS (milk in Oxygene, orchid-musk in Nu). Oxygene was one of my first fragrances, and it was a pleasure to sniff this new take on the show-stopper unique combination of bergamont and pepper.

While Oxygene was happy to stay at the citrusy-peppery opening, making it a great daytime chic scent, Nu almost immediately sheds the bergamont top notes and wanders into deeper waters. I think the "sexiness" other readers smell comes from orchid, which is quite heady and animalistic in this spicy combination. Heart-warming, rich, and striking.

Nu reminds me of a sophisticated woman clothed in texture. The silky black dress of jasmine petals, the scratchy peppers of her rough fur stole, the creamy animalistic butteriness of her leather purse. The florals, peppers, and animal notes combine in this unique textile experience that, for me, is the fascination of Nu.

I had it 4 years ago, I uesd to love the feeling of being swamped by it (the longevity, yes), then I got pregnant (surely much to do with wearing NU;-)and I just couldn't be anywhere near it anymore. 4 years and two babies later I fondly recall the feeling, but I know it would be too much for me now, love it anyway.

eilismaireg

This is very nice but no big surprise to someone who's worn Kingdom, Theo Fennell and other such spicy wonders. It's a nice, sexy, peppery unisex scent which manages to smell 'clean' too which is nice, maybe from the vetiver. It has fantastic sillage and longevity and dwarfed the Cartier that I had sprayed on the other wrist! It's bottle worthy if you have the cash spare but I wouldn't pay over the odds for it as it's not distinctively different enough.

singlemalt

This is a love of mine. Incense! Lovers of incense look for this. This is a cool incense, as if one has found the coolness of a church or temple in hot weather. Pepper plays out in the beginning and then the incense. Some spice in the dry down. There is also a touch of green. This is one 'spicy-oriental' that is for me wearable in the summer. Strong sillage and much longevity. Smells wonderful for days after on my clothing. It has been discontinued--I'll be buying more to hide away.

hollycat

Never had I ever before found a fragrance that so perfectly matched the bottle it comes in. This scent has a air of strength and steely sophistication. It has its own unique personality. It reminds me of leather, metal, something a rockstar would wear or a dominatrix. This scent is for the no nonsense woman who knows who she is and what she wants. I really like this scent but find that something about it bothers my nose. Its truely a unique and powerful scent anyhow.

wwwusa

I love it. i hope YSL creat Nu Pour Homme.
Do u know like this one for men ?
Dark . sexy

glitteralex

This was a first love for me-a spicy oriental that is definitely modern and edgy. The metallic color so perfectly matches the essence of the scent-spicy but clean. It unfold beautifully with good longevity. I get a lot of warm base notes with vanilla. There is a significant difference between the EdP and the EdT in the blue bottle, the EdP being more round and plush.

seventh

Dark, rich, dynamic, mysterious. Not everybody's cup of tea but it sure does have a character. Almost like a human. You need time to get to know with this one. You will feel its presence a day after. Talking about the edt only. The edp is even more long lasting. It does not let go for over 40 hours.

sabsoob

i really hate it when ppl invade ur territory with their perfumes.. so i do my best to avoid doing the same.
nobody understands this fragrance, i like it a lot. its one of the making me feel good perfumes.

and yeah, luckily for me nobody understands it :p

ArtELLE

One of my fav winter perfumes. Very nice deep smell. Not sweet!!! :) even if it's oriental.

evarus

This fragrance, which it is necessary to inflict on absolutely nacked body.
Very sexual!
Leaves memory in air not only, but also in soul...

sky76sky

This reminds me of my mum! It really is very powerful, but not in a sweet or heady way. It has a very masculine, leathery quality to it...but is a very sexy, deep & spicy scent. All the listed ingredients can easily be found in this fragrance - peppery, woody & depthy, refreshed by bergamot, a little goes a long way. A night-time signature scent - you won't find many like this...& you'll either love it or loathe it.

PacoGirl

Mysterious... Dark... Sexy... Obsessive... Provocative... Beautiful... Extraordinary...
Has very own character...
What else to say? Just love it!

Kama

It is on of the most beautiful perfume I have ever had ! it is part of my list of favorite! They are oriental, spicy with hint of some incenses and jasmine... yes, a bit similar to Bvalgari Noir.. from Jasmine site...

Niovi

My problem is quite common as I see here. I fell in love with Nu, it's the only perfume I have been wearing for the past 6 years and now that it has become my signature perfume it stopped being produced!!!I have been searching for a replacement for the last weeks but nothing can be compared to it and my heart is broken. If anyone can suggest me spicy perfume like this to try I will be grateful..

CaraMia

Nu is a stunning warm orchid scent, nothing like it. I prefer the EDP to the EDT and the body cream is divine.
Another revelation for me was layering Nu with just a hint of musk oil, just spectacular!

The orchid note remains true to the end and the lasting power of Nu is phenomenal

brittliis

It`s the best perfume ever, have been my favourites more than 7 yrs for now. But unfortunately it`s out of production and it`s not on sale in my country anymore. I hasn`t found any replacement to it. Could anyone help???

suelle

Very musky fragrance, very sexy.
Absolutely lovely after few hours, when it's the only thing you wear.
Great for late autumn and rainy winter.

NebraskaLovesScent

I've been sampling the Nu Eau de Parfum for the last week off and on. I didn't like it at first, but it has grown on me. I don't usually wear skin/musk type scents. I don't care for the top notes on this one. They smell a bit sour or bitter at first. However, they quickly warm to something soft and sexy. Good combo of sandalwood and musk in the base. Not quite my style, but if you're a fan of skin scents or musk, this is a good one to try.

bluejellybean

I love the unique packaging and the scent is just my style!
