Shi by Alfred Sung is a Floral Fruity fragrance for women. Shi was launched in 2000. The nose behind this fragrance is Ilias Ermenidis. Top notes are Water Lily, Rice Leaf and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Orange Blossom and Frangipani; base notes are Birch Leaf and Musk.

Perfume SHI, introduced in 2000 opens new millennium in the floral fruity attire. It is made of light floral rhapsody of notes, which are perfectly followed by real sense of serenity and existence. It is also called “Perfect Sung’s Drop”, which, as element of nature brings fullness of life. Translucent and elegant, just perfect, washed by the purity of water and notes of lotus blossom and fig leaves in the top notes, while the heart beats with its fresh sweet accords of orange blossom, shining tangerine and night odorous flower Frangipani. The base consists of leaves of birch and musk. It was designed by Ilias Emenidis. The bottle is the work of designer Jerome Dinand. It is available in the amount of 15 and 20 ml of perfume extract, 50 and 100 ml edp, and accompanying products like cream, body milk and deodorant.

I just got this in the mail and ohhhh my goodness this is beautiful. A sweet and fresh scent that gives me a “fresh out of a luxury shower” vibe. This is a hot girl perfume. I’m usually not a fresh scent lover, but this i am in love with!

So far it seems very strong, I usually go nose blind quite easily but this is one I can smell on myself. Sillage and longevity seem great!

chimidoro

Came here to comment that it makes me feel nauseous and saw that the AI bullet points have picked that up from other reviews. Wow. It's true.
It's a nice scent. Very strong for an aquatic floral.
Very sharp and sweet. I don't know what it is here that makes me feel sick to my stomach.
Better worn in an outdoor setting, that's for sure.
This is not for me.

left2foot

I wore this years ago. Sitting outside in Florida summer, a man walked by and told me I smelled so good. I couldn't smell it on me. I might just buy a bottle for everyday wear this summer.

chelseanadine

Growing up, my mother had the solid perfume version of this, which she gave to me years ago. I always liked how clean and fresh it smelled, so I finally decided to get a full sized bottle since the price is so great. Such a beautiful, bright and light fragrance for spring/summer. It isn’t listed in the notes but I get a juicy green apple punch from it sniffing up close. I hope it’s not discontinued cause it’s so cheap online. I may stock up just in case. This is a staple!

Sugarkeens

This is calming and beautiful...with an edge. It's very much clean-girl and spa vibes. Longevity isn't beast mode, nor is projection but I think this is a keeper.

emes369

A clean, fresh, inoffensive fragrance that's perfect for daytime wear in the spring/summer months. I really like it!

moon-lake-nymph

The first 5 mins I was getting "urine" as a note which automatically negated anything else positive I could possibly say about this and disqualified it as something I'd wear. This came as a free sample so no money was wasted. But after a short time, the pee smell vanished and was replaced by a creamy, musky white floral. The scent opened up very unexpectedly great in time for me.

sweetsher

Not a fan. I think the rice made it weird on me.

NEW LAUNDRY!

uhohstinky

Crisp clean soapy fragrance great for spring/summer months. The wife likes it and wears it from time to time.

JenJen1005

This perfume is light and clean. It makes me smell good without smelling strong. It's a great choice if you have a job where you can't wear heavy, bold perfume but still want to smell better than wearing nothing. I also love wearing it layered with another light scent.

yukikiki

I was looking for a luxury lotion scent. Specifically The Ginza, which I was gifted. I've tested so many fragrances but to no avail. The search continues.

It definitely has a vintage aspect to it like another reviewer mentioned. Unfortunately I don't have the same appreciation for "vintage" scents. Not every fragrance made in 2000s smell vintage, but this one does. It might smell like inexpensive floral bar soaps or cheap floral hand soaps in some public bathrooms - I'm not sure as it was too long ago, but it's familiar. It's not horrible, but not great for me either. I don't see myself using it. I didn't spend too much on it but that's also money I'll never get back.

Scent summary:

and a vintage touch

If you don't mind the vintage touch and want to take the risk, go ahead and blind buy it. Otherwise, I think other fresh florals would give you the same vibe. Bright Crystal would be a good alternative in the fresh and floral aspect because of the peony. Peony & Blush Suede would be good for that as well.

If you're a fan of Bvlgari's Omnia Crystalline (the 2013), there is a very similar... shall we say... green tea/green bamboo accord that come out of both of these two fragrances in a high humidity, cold climate.

If you have both Omnia Crystalline and Shi, I'd love to hear your opinion of these two sampled side-by-side.
For me, they could be scent siblings.

If you like Elizabeth Arden's Pretty, you might be interested to know there is a hint of a similar Peony accord that usually comes out of this, but slightly greener, in warmer climates.

I wore this all through high school as I hated sweet scents back then. I was always told I smelled good and fresh and clean even family members. I found it for 19.99$ at shoppers finally after avoiding it for months and being upset when it finally disappeared and I’m glad I did!! My husband loves when i smell like “shampoo” he says I smell like I mean business lol. Anyways if you can find it and you need a nice everyday or even it’s comforting and clean for bedtime this is a safe blind buy.

This perfume is what irritation and boredom smell like. It’s one-note, cool, soapy, and meh. Yet it’s also sharp when first sprayed, and not in a good way. It smells like cilantro tastes. (I’m one of those people who dislike cilantro, unfortunately; I wish I weren’t.)

So I don’t consider it a safe blind buy at all. In fact, I would want my soap to smell a lot better than this.

FlowerSeeker

Light floral aquatic fragrance. Smells a bit like fabric softener. I’ll be wearing it again!

suzanne_ronald

A Zen of Watery Fields of Rice...
Opens with a burst of floral-citrus aquatics. As it transitions to the heart, rice-leaf and orange-blossom mingle to add a soft, creamy lactonic quality near rice-pudding, that echoes the lactonics in another composition of Ilias Ermenidas, So de la Renta Oscar de la Renta. However the balance of floral-aquatics to sweet-lactonics leans a little more to the former here in Shi, more than in So de la Renta, which also has a vintage vibe not present here. The rice-pudding note here is likely built with a little tuberose (not listed) as in So de la Renta. Overall it's an easy to wear fruity-floral with a rice-pudding note in the base. I could imagine walking through watery fields of rice when I smell this - it's very zen as many comments describe. Performance is average for a light spring through fall wearing experience.

Contrast to Dolce Dolce&Gabbana:
These are different, but there are similarities with a watery fruity-floral over a musky base. Dolce has a more obvious pear note in the top, and the musky base doesn't take on lactonic tones. Roughly equivalent performance.

Overall: gorgeous, affordable, zen watery fruity-floral with rice-pudding note in the base and average performance. It's a love for me. 9/10. Enjoy!

Shi perplexes me a little bit. I think it must contain certain fragrances that are unfamiliar to me, at least in combination. I'm not sure I would have discerned the rice note if I hadn't read it in the pyramid and official description; now I think I can smell it, but it's as subtle as, well, the smell of cooked rice (and not even one of the more fragrant varieties, like jasmine or basmati). The floral and aquatic notes dominate for me, along with a sort of salty, sea-breeze, almost chlorine-like tang that makes me imagine I'm eating rice candy by a nice hotel swimming pool, in the vicinity of some orange blossom or neroli (not necessarily the blossom itself; possibly a synthetic room spray, perhaps the high-end room spray used in the private cabana. I don't dislike this watery fruity floral--it would be hard to dislike something so clean and almost metallic-minimalist. I will admit right now that this was a blind buy for me because the price was right, and I found the bottle very beautiful. I don't regret this purchase at all because I don't have many clean and watery scents. This reminds me a little bit of some of the scents in the Henry Rose line, perhaps Jake's House, or one of the more unisex offerings. It came out in 2000, though, so it was probably more of a response to the diaphonous wafty clean-girl florals of the early aughts. This would be good for the office, since it's subtle and inoffensive, at least in the formulation I have.

I'm not sure what birch leaf smells like--I'll have to smell one of the leaves next time I pass the one at the end of my block--but I'm not noticing the water lily, unless it smells different than the water lilies I'm familiar with (which is quite likely--there are probably thousands of species and varieties).

Update: Giving away to a woman whom I think might wear it more often than I do.

Maleficent's cotton candy

This smells clean without being too sharp. Really nice, clean and smooth cheapie.

katiejon

Old-school maxi-pad scent.

I wish my nose picked up these “crisp, cold, refreshing, clean” aspects of Shi, but I just don’t. It is nice scent, and yes - I get the cleanness. I get straight maxi-pads from the 80’s and 90’s. My husband doesn’t have that scent memory and he thinks this is a pretty and light scent.

Sherlock Ness Monster

Crisp, cold, refreshing, clean. It works well with my skin chemistry. Great to wear to work. It is lovely any time of year, but I find myself reaching for it a lot in the summer heat. I live in a very dry climate so fragrances disappear quickly on me, but I can smell this one on my skin for hours. I will always have this in my collection.

BandWeaver

Very fresh, light and aquatic. The floral notes here are not the usual suspects, and i cant easily differentiate individual notes. Overall it's pleasant and extremely easy to wear, the chances of offending anyone at any time with this fragrance are near zero. I like having an uncomplicated Spring option, pretty and feminine but not overly complex, or too sexy, or syrupy sweet.

I recently wore it to an outdoor, all day music festival and it was a good choice as it doesn't turn oppressive in warm weather, and lasted a good 5 hours when sprayed liberally. Plus, it's a cheapie. I think there's still a useful place in many peoples fragrance wardrobes for the 90's vintage style freshies. I'll repurchase.

myperfumeisleakingplshelp

Maybe I have a bad bottle but this unfortunately smells extremely sharp and synthetic. Forget aquatic - this is just artificial flowers on steroids. It's so sharp it pierces your nose like a needle, and may cause nosebleeds. Lasts literally forever on clothing, turns very bitter on my skin (like a lot of perfumes out there, but Shi brings it to another level). I wish I could like this since I have so much of this, but alas...

Sekitchen85

My husband has always worn Acres Sung Hei, so my me a dorky wife wanted his counterpart as I was looking for a change up from my “big” perfumes. I wasn’t particularly pleased, so it’s been in the box for about a year, and as the season is finally changing to spring I figured to give it another try, and I’m not sure if it’s just me or it needs time to settle but wow! Clean and musky. This is a really nice change from the overly sweat cupcake smelling perfumes out there.

luna k

Leather is my least favorite note in perfume but I don't notice any leather in Shi even though it's high up on the list of accords. Instead, there's sweet orange oil, rice, musk and airy florals. It's clean, lasts all day and would probably stay fresh even in hot weather. I'm guessing because it's cold where I am now in barely spring late March far north United States. Added bonus; the bottle is beautiful in a witchy kind of way although the atomizer is glitchy. You have to push down hard and then it sprays a large amount. You don't have the option of using very little.

Like a less orangey Clinique Happy mixed with rice and sweet musk. A few hours in the floral element is loud. I dislike that phase but then it passes and becomes a softer freesia soap. At the tail end it smells like a slightly woody skin musk which is my favorite part.

Betsywoolbright

I had a sample of this years ago and I liked the watery rice scent. I just bought a bottle and the frangipani overpowers everything. I wonder if my sample was a vintage and my bottle is a reformulation.
Edited to add: the frangipani (smells like peach or apricot) and powdery rice strongly bring to mind Peach Blossom Violet and Vanilla by Dame Perfumery.

noodlehead19

super super fresh and watery. when I first put my nose to it, I thought to myself "this smells like the 90s!" and then I found out it was released in 2000 lol. through the freshness, there's that vintage-ness that just screams 90s/early 00s and I find it super charming. i can't pick out the rice notes above everything else, but I think they're there floating around somewhere. it lasts a surprisingly long time, so I like to wear it to the gym or to run errands during the warmer months. found it at a great price at a bargain store, so honestly if you're looking for a FRESH (not sweet or anything) freshie I'd recommend this.

hpsmells6

A sharp fresh summery floral. But the first perfume I’ve ever had to expire.

MauveBee93

A fresh floral with a slight earthiness, Shi by Alfred Sung is an interesting aquatic perfume that has great performance and perfect for the high heat! I think this is unisex leaning feminine, but honestly anyone can pull this off.

The opening is where I get the most earthy/leathery quality, I’m assuming this is due to the rice leaf. After about an hour this dissipates and you are left with a fresh, clean, slightly sweet scent with a little bit of musk to help ground the perfume.

I enjoy the subtle frangipani and orange blossom that gives the composition a slight sweetness that blends well with the bitch leaf and musk. I also associate frangipanis with a “clean” feeling, it helps make a perfume sweet without getting too heavy or cloying. The orange blossom is very subdued, so if you are wanting a perfume with a strong orange blossom presence you will be disappointed by this one.

I would refer to this as a floral freshie- if you are someone that wants a fresh and aquatic perfume that has a noticeable floral quality and doesn’t bombard you with citrus than this would be a great option for you!

tomato12

Gave me such a headache, aquatic scents are absolutely not for me 1/10

Dzai

Disappointed by this one. Its a clean fresh fragrance and I normally love clean and fresh but this one has a very sharp note that gives me a headache. Had to wash it off. Will give this one away

XOXO_marcel

A very pretty smell, reminiscent of a rainy day. Very light, but still noticeable. "Fluffy" aquatic. Slightly musky, slighty ricey, but mostly an atmospheric scent. Would be good for the office, and even better for a day spent outdoors.

SheRays

Didn't like this one. A dirty wet garden smell

animal lover 20

I had really high hopes about it but it is not what I expected. I bought it from Ebay because as a brand it does not exist is my country. Imho it does not belong to the floral fruity group, it is certainly more aquatic as other people are mentioning too, in previous reviews, a fragrance group that I am not really fond of. It is quite light and the duration on me is around 6 hours but quite faint / subtle. I had tried frangipani, as a note, in a shower gel and I really liked it, that's why I was searching for a perfume with the fragipanni note in it, but it is not what I expected. I do not hate it, but I do not love it either, it is just ok for me and I could say
that I have an unenthusiastic / lukewarm, feeling about it.

yy123

Watery musk, slightly sharp/metallic

jesz

First whiff: It's nice but VERY LIGHT.

Dry down: It's pretty, but kind of blah and way too faint. It's so inoffensive that it's uninteresting.

proverbs2121

Shi used to be a powerhouse fragrance in the early 2000's - I am stunned by the reviews saying its so light and mild. Must have gotten reformulated. Back in the day, my girlfriends and I were nuts about this perfume......sprayed 5 sprays in the morning and still smelled like Shi at 6pm that night.

RubyRedCancer

Very clean, pretty, feminine scent. Wearable for most occasions. It doesn't stand out from the crowd, but it's very pleasant. I get whiffs throughout the day, but I do have to overspray a bit on and underneath my clothes. I think it is safe to overspray as some perfumes get cloying. This does not. Overspraying seems to help it last longer, but it doesn't seem stronger to me.
I picked up a bottle of this at the discount store as a blind buy. If I use up my bottle and come across another one, I would probably buy it again.

Rcates78

I wore Forever in college and loved it and recently spotted a 3oz bottle of Shi at TJ Maxx for a song, so I scooped it up. The Sung DNA is readily apparent and I was pleasantly surprised at how likeable and wearable this cheapie is. It's a fresh, soapy, creamy aquatic with a white floral thread that remains pretty linear the whole day. Sillage is moderate and longevity is fantastic, at any pricepoint. It's summer here in SoCal and the experience of wearing Shi is like walking through a botanical garden greenhouse with a large pond and delicate white flowers blooming on a vine in the background. I don't get any citrus and I'm not familiar with 'rice' as a note, but it must be what keeps Shi creamy rather than astringent, as so many aquatics can be. This blind buy totally worked out for me this time.

Edit: It's been about a month of me reaching for Shi several times a week and I do believe I may have gone anosmic to it already! Whether that's bc it's so light and fresh it only exists in the background for me now or bc of some chemical/compound in it I simply don't have enough of the right kind of scent cells to detect, I'll never know, but I have to seriously overspray this one to even pick it up now. So strange!

MissyLuizietteLaFleur

I am super unhappy with this blind buy.
I would love to love this perfume, but its too bland. I'm not happy with this blind buy. There's no leather, no smokiness, no musk or floral really. Is a sweet aldehyde smell that lasts maybe 15 minutes, and in the dry down there's a vague milk smell. That's it. I would not recommend this bland waste of money.

RandomPatterned

For a "spa-like freshie" I was surprised how sweet this is at first, I almost washed it off. It's a sweetness I don't recognize compared to other powdery or sweet florals I have tried. I do like the dry down, it has elements of creamy warmth and a hint of light musk & powder while retaining floral aspects of what I think is mostly water lily. I like varieties of orange and orange blossom notes and own quite a few fragrances with them. I don't find much orange in here, just a whisper, and that is ok because I think it would cancel out the nice balance between the water lily and what I believe to be the contribution of the rice and birch leaves.

Edit: some note or accord in this which I can't identity this turns me off.

amg7613

Fresh, clean aquatic floral. The smell does bring me back to my Curve wearing days in the 90s.

fibuls

Wow, how to describe this very fresh smell? Like freshly laundered sheets. I agree, it is not green fresh and there is no sweetness here. Just a teeny bit of floral. Smells like you just got out of a refreshing shower. Aquatic and cold, in a good way. It is also strong, not sheer like other fresh scents. I layer it with Zara Orchid for a bit of sweetness and the result is amazing!!

The light blue color and the water shape of the bottle is the perfect design for it. Smells like fresh water - if water had a smell.

AMMILLER

I love this! Got a giant bottle at tjmax for $12, and I cannot recommend it enough!

This is an incredibly fresh smell. But not green. Like you just got out of the shower and put powder on you butt fresh (I'm the only one?!)

It opens floral, the lotus smells so good and has a classy, clean, powdery dry down. Hints of floral continue to bloom in the dry down. I 100% agree with other reviews, this stuff is strong! Don't over spray.

Skinscents4Fusspots

This doesn't list Gardenia, but it has the same buttery Gardenia smell that I get from Elizabeth Taylors Sparkling White Diamonds it's very much in that same style of perfume. Dry and fresh. Very clean smelling. Very Similar to Sparkling White Diamonds just generally and was release the year after. Just like with Forever coming out the year after Elizabeth Arden's True Love (both 'Wedding Perfumes'!), Pure smelling so much like Carolina Hererra's 212 and Jewel being so much like Elizabeth Arden Splendor.... I'm starting to think that maybe Alfred Sung was a bit of a Dupe House?!

Anyhooooo.... if you like this one but need a bit more sweetness then I think Jovan White Musk would be a great alternative. Has the same floral profile but is not as dry.

Melaniesherriff

Well this is one of 4 bottles I binned. I put it in a pretty pink shopper bag and put it close to the bins so some one could see it and hopefully make use of it. For me it was an incredibly dry air type scent and I just couldn't bare it. I was happy that within the hour someone saw it and took the bag with the other three full 100ml bottles. I hate wasting something that someone can get enjoyment out of

TabledThoughts

Like warm summer air on line dried clothes.
I actually have the body mist and spritz my hoodie before I go for an energizing walk in the park.
An innocent scent that should not offend anyone.
I enjoy wearing it.

SallyGirl

Nice! Fresh, sorta aquatic but not in the usual way (think cool water🤢 by davidoff)…this is more floral with a milky edge. I enjoy this. I’ve stayed away from typical aquatic perfumes because I’m always brought back to the assault of them from the late 90s. Thankfully this has zero in common with those.

Woollyworm

Very light, fresh aquatic floral...not my usual style, but I really like it. I primarily smell the water lily, but it's blended well and is a cohesive whole.

Pretty, very feminine and perfect for warm weather. Excellent price! This was a blind buy at TJ Maxx after a kind person here suggested it as a good, affordable seasonal floral. I'll use it for daytime in spring and summer.

G$

Beautiful scent. So light, floral, aquatic. Makes me feel peaceful.

Dhayana

Takes me back to the early 2000
Clean aquatic floral BEAUTY !!!
I would go hard on this one in middle school and remember all my teachers asking me all the dam time what I was wearing and me having to spell it because I didn't now how to pronounce it 😅
The water lily is the star of the show then the musk and mandarin orange follows. I think that the rice leaf and frangipani makes the fragrance have more depth and turning it creamy. Don't let the bottle fool ya! This is potent, long lasting and could be heavy to the point of getting a headache if you spray too much.
10/10

CiCiGourmand

It's aquatic AND lactonic. Shi is a fragrance that I enjoy wearing during late evenings at home while reading a book or just before my bedtime. I'm not a huge fan of aquatic fragrances but the rice note in this one reels me in. It's a very calming and relaxing scent.

"A perfect water drop, the element of nature that gives life and renewal is Alfred’s inspiration for SHI ALFRED SUNG. It is a study of balance and harmony. Reflect the calm within. The pairing of orange blossom and frangipani creates a fragrance with a delicate yet powerful aura. This unique blend of flowers creates a bouquet that radiates a tranquil warmth."

perfumelovere

After reading the reviews I blind bought this for a cheap price. Regretfully on me this has the curse of many aquatics, that bathroom spray undercurrent. IDK if it is the orange blossom but there's also something powdery which is not my thing. I can see how this would have mass appeal and is a safe bet for almost any occasion. When it dries down I find it pleasantish but that first hour reminds me of Glade.

RandomPatterned

I have no unique observations to add to what has been noted prior. It was surprisingly very flowery sweet when I first applied it. The blend is well done, the dry down is indeed fresh, watery and comforting without too much musk. It's predominantly water lily and orangey to me. But something else in there is making it so pleasant, maybe the rice and birch? But I can't discern those or the frangipani specifically. It's not coconutty or milky to me, at least not in a potentially overly sweet or sour manner. For me, it seems suitable to wear for any mood, occasion or season. It has lasted about 5-6 hours, I may have applied one extra spray than my normal amount. Promotes a sense of calm and well being.

Babblecat

This was an instant favorite for me. A really pretty, bright, clean scent that I'd feel comfortable wearing in almost any context. I guess it's the rice leaf that gives Shi the lactonic accord that I really love--it elevates the perfume from something that's "just" pretty to a more dimensional and interesting fragrance. This fragrance probably isn't picking strangers up in bars, but it rewards the wearer and anyone who takes the time to get close with something genuine, unexpected, and beautiful.

animal lover 20

Hello. I am quite interested about this perfume but because it doesn't exist as a brand in my country, I would like to ask other members if it is quite balanced and cozy for this time of the year. I do not like super, sugary and powdery
fragrances so I was wondering if this fragrance is what I am looking for, i.e. a balanced, a cozy, a relaxing and a clean fragrance as it promises to be. Many people compare it with I. Miyake - a fragrance that I can hardly recall and I am not sure if I like it or not. I had smelled it years ago but back then, I was not so fond of clean fragrances and as far as I can see they do not have many notes in common so I can not really form an opinion.

elyely

Wet, humid and hot summer. Rainy season in a tropical forest.

Janlaw

Smells like wet rain in the forest…. Yummy scent.

Panda68

I smell coconut, coconut, coconut even though it is not an ingredient...

zind

This is not the category of scent that I usually go for, but I wore and loved Noa by Cacharel for years. So thanks to Burgundy Jaydes review I decide to go for this instead. And I agree, I don't need Noa now that I have this, they are in the same category of a clean, innocent, comforting (and to me; maternal) scent. I love the rice note! It is very lovely and seem to perform very well. So happy with my blind buy!

CK_Leo

BEST BLIND BUY EVER!
This perfume has been on my radar for years, it was the lockdown that finally prompted me to blind buy it online. If only I had to courage to do so years ago!
It's crisp, it's sparkling, it's just... nice! The perfume opens up with waterlily and a backbone of mandarin to let its presence known, then dries down to a nice floral. Its dry-down was very complementary to Alfred Sung Hei, which I also blind bought for my partner, those two scents definitely created a synergy of some sort. I love it!

Victoria Talbott

Blind buy for $15. Very pleased. This actually reminds me of L'eau d'Issey (which I love) but with a sweeter florals. The rice leaf note is very interesting, and I think that is what provides the sweetness. Surprisingly good performance and sillage on me for a fresh floral. I would say this is a safe and inoffensive day time wear. Its not super sexy more clean but still very feminine.

kathmarie

Vibrant refreshing lively clean a easy reach for spring summer.

AMGMoonHalo

This my 3rd Alfred Sung fragrance and it is very versatile. I have Sung and Pure, but this is so airy compared to either of those two. Especially in hot humid climates at 95°F(35-40°C). Slightly floral and aquatic. I am sensitive to orange blossoms in full bloom in orchards, but this is light enough that it doesn't bother me the way Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue's sharpness did. Beautiful light, clean, and comforting. If you go to the Alfred Sung website under blogs, there's one called 'Reflections' that discussed the background of this fragrance. Sung was undergoing cancer treatment and was inspired by Feng Shui elements water, metal and wood.

Perfumelady88

I love this scent. I usually wear it right after a shower or before bed. But that's only because I have a lot of fragrances. This perfume is perfect to wear out anywhere. It's clean, soft and beautiful.

AlaskanAngel

I bought this because the notes looked interesting and living surrounded by birch trees, I wanted to smell it as a fragrance. On my skin this is just an aquatic floral that becomes more floral and bitter as it wears. The citrus is fleeting. No lactonic, sweet, smokey, leather, or rice notes to be found. I cannot pick out what they are calling "birch" but that's okay because this fragrance dosen't agree with my chemistry anyway.

P.S. The bottle itself feels nice in the hand. From the pictures I thought the cap was aluminium or one of those chrome-over-plastic caps common to perfumes but it's a just matte, grey plastic that looks and feels cheap. Yes, I know this was a very cheap fragrance but I'm still disappointed because all aspects had so much potential.

Oh my! Why didn't I find this sooner? Just received it in the mail ( another blind buy). It's lovely. So pretty and light. Not sweet, not week. Great sillage and longevity. Reminds me of a walk in spring rain or sitting on a beach. Very similar to Haiku from Avon and issey Miyake l'eau. It's a water-like fresh floral with a bit of fruitiness . Great for the heat of summer for sure. I look forward to trying it in all of the seasons. It's 35°C here on the prairies today and this is the perfect scent to put on after a long day working outside in this heat....its great right out of the shower too. Ok I could keep going on and on about this scent but you get the message. Lol. So glad I found this lovely gem!

OH DEAR HEAVEN. Ilias Emenidis is a perfumery genius I read they created this scent after my review here and their creation of this perfume is pure angelic magical and alluring. 🌈 I was not expecting this to be so so lofty and heavenly. 🌼I have always loved perfumes that smell a little bit soapy and this is just so so clean and gorgeous. I did not read the reviews before I bought this. And I really won this time with getting a perfume off eBay. I did not read the notes in either before I bought it I liked the teardrop bottle( thanks to Jerome Dinan I found out who created the bottle after penning my review). ...and I like the name of the perfume. What I smell when I first spray it is gorgeous 🍑lemon🍋🍊Orange and tangerines and just absolute brilliance. I thought it was going to be wayyyy too💦💦 Aquatic because of the color blue juice but it's not. I cannot stop smiling my wrist. I do smell musk??? A tad. Very sexy and a tad balmy. For the for a perfume that come out in the 2000 millennium 21 years ago its still top notch. 💫🌟💫It's now been on my wrist for about a half an hour and I am so very impressed with this scent. For a girl that's on a slight budget this is absolutely amazing. 🌺🌸🌺It is slightly fruity and but not in a bad way at all. I cannot see the scent offending anybody. I would wear this anytime during the Spring🌿 and Summer🌴. Day or night. I'm sure I'm going to Dazzle people when I wear this perfume.🌠 I want to thank the creators of this perfume because it smells so comforting. I usually like Cocoa scents and vanilla scent not to sweet scents and this is perfectio. I'm so glad I took the risk of buying this beautiful perfume. This is one that I will forever have. In fact I'm going to go buy another bottle on Payday on eBay. I did get the tester it was about $16. But the investment was worth it. This smells like it's $65. I did get a tester without a cap but the next time I get this perfume I'm going to buy a bottle with a cap that's how impressed with this perfume. If you've never tried it I really suggest to try this. If you're a fan of☁ NOA you're going to love this perfume. NOA has been reformulated but this scent is heaven sent. The bottle is very very opulent and I could smell the beautiful fragrant flowers and oils.💐 This scent is so clean and so fresh and so soft. 💦But I know that other people are going to be able to smell it slightly and that's what I like. The closer a person gets to me the more of those smell this perfume and that's exactly what I like. You cannot go wrong with this perfume. It is everything that I ever hope for in a perfume that's not slightly gourmand. If you read my review thank you so much may peace be with you. May the light shine upon you. May you have Enlightenment 🌈and Beauty surrounding you. And may the age of Aquarius begin. 💗This perfume actually reminds me of the age of Aquarius. 💦A very refreshing. Of time in life. Celebrate your life every day it's a gift and to a buyer fragrance is one of the best thing you could do for yourself and others. God bless you dear one🕊🕊🕊 update - this is really weak. I must spray it every hour and I can not smell it on me unless I put my nose directly on my wrist. Thats my only complaint because on me it smells wonderful.

ScarletFBL

It smells like Versace's Dylan Blue (which reminds me a lot of Dior's J'adore, so throw that in there, too) and Davidoff's Cool Water had a slightly less citrusy, DEFINITELY less chemically baby. I adore Cool Water, but sometimes it's a chemical-citrus bomb. There's nothing natural smelling about it. Shi - this is the perfect fresh-aquatic I was looking for. Got the recommendation from SHANA J on YouTube.

drdgs

don't know what i was thinking when I bought this one. don't get much in the way of florals just a very watery bland aquatic. think I was attracted by the lovely bottle and the fact it came in a gift pack with lotion and a travel size bottle too - who doesn't love to fragrance layer. gave it to my 10 y.o. daughter who in reality mostly just kept the bottle for display purposes.

Alfred Sung Shi really snuck up on me: a real sleeper! I can't really explain it but it transports me back in time -- the old perfume-as-time-machine thing. It starts off with fresh fruits (pink grapefruit? some sort of citrus, to my nose, anyway) and fresh, green flowers (orange blossom? water lily? frangipani? I don't know!) -- basically nicely rounded but slightly bitter fruits and sharp, green florals -- and no alcohol smell, interestingly. Overall, the impression, to me, is one of Restrained Elegance. So many of the reviews describe the scent as reminiscent of fabric softener sheets (maybe I just can't remember what they smell like...) and Shi as a casual, post-gym scent, but I get more of a fancy-hotel-from-the-1970's atmosphere. Maybe it's the orange blossom peeking through -- fancy hotel soaps -- maybe it's the starchiness of the rice note (starched laundry sheets), I'm not sure. As Shi dries down, a sophisticated woodiness and "perfumey" quality appears (the birch leaf, lending it a super-light leather smell); all I know is that it reminds me of my Aunt Bernice, who usually wore Norell or Chanel and expensive clothing, gold jewelry, and diamonds (very unlike my cool and earthier mom). When I smell Shi, I think of orange blossom soap, the smell of pink grapefruit served for breakfast with small, serrated spoons, and lazy afternoons at the hotel pool (chlorine). Happy times ... :)

As for Shi's designation as an aquatic, well, I guess? But it completely lacks that nasty chemical undertone that drives me away from the majority of aquatics or aquatic florals (for example, Elizabeth Arden Pretty, True Love, CK Eternity Moment, and even, though to a lesser extent, Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey). Shi just smells fresh and watery rather than "aquatic." It also really seems to last on me -- and my skin often "eats" fragrance. I want to put Shi in the same category of light-but-intense fragrances, like Arden Beauty (that shares its fragrant, starchy rice note, but adds some warm ginger on top of it) and, weirdly, L'Heure Bleue (Yes! If an incensey/pastry-like confection seems like a weird comparison, for sure, but I made that association nonetheless!).

As for longevity, I sprayed (OK, probably OVER-sprayed) on Shi last night before bed and I could still smell it when I woke up in the morning, 7 hours later. That's pretty good longevity, in my book! I don't understand why I don't hear more about Shi; but then scent is such a particular thing, tied to memory and experience, as well as chemistry. Incidentally, I have a couple of Alfred Sung fragrances, and like or love most of them (Like/love: Shi, Sung; DON"T like: Jewel -- it has that nasty aquatic note I mentioned before, and doesn't last on me anyway, thankfully). I just ordered Pure because I think I'll probably like it, but we'll see...

Cess268

This is a very pretty and unique scent. It's very light but is perfect for EXTREMELY hot days/ working out. I also think this is work appropriate because it sits to the skin and doesn't offend. Very affordable and this is a welcome addition to my collection. Will repurchase

ivushi81

My favourite gym scent :) fresh and clean with a decent longevity and projection (on my skin…)
…not overpowering, just soft, clean out of the shower scent. If light blue had a colour, this would be it! Can be unisex /leaning more feminine/ as well. If you want something for leasure time or sport, this would be the one!

Dreamdott

This is beautiful :) its something you put on right out of a shower just laying around the house on a nice spring day. Its windy outside and birds are chirping. Nice and airy. A breath of clean air. Its like a nice glass of water early in the morning. If you are looking for an after shower perfume try this. Its not like a jlo glo.. its much softer and less powdery. This does have the same feeling Avon Haiku gives you but it is not the same. It would be in the same scent family though. Its more aquatic than Haiku. While Haiku is more green and the citrus note is more prominentin the opening. Also a good gym fragrance :) i wear this while running. Its simple enought not to throw me off when working out. Its spring now and I get a slight... very very slight sweetness as well.

Tifffyy

I usually don’t like aquatic scents at all, but this is a very lovely scent. It is very clean and fresh, almost airy. I imagine sitting by a lake on a warm spring/summer day with a nice breeze wafting a pretty, light, floral past my nose, it is very serene and classy, very nice for daytime wear in the warmer months.

JacquelineRenee

I think if you are looking for a nice clean soapy type of fragrance, you would like Shi. For me, the orange blossom is a bit overwhelming, almost too sharp and soapy; however, once the fragrance settles, you are left with a perfectly lovely creamy aquatic scent. I have seen other reviews comparing Shi to a 'shampoo type of scent,' and I would have to agree. I would not agree that this fragrance is even remotely close to Issey Miyake's L'eau D'issey. L'eau D'Issey smells like you are walking in the snow and happen to find a rose in a forest surrounded by cedar trees. Shi for the lack of a better adjective is more of a 'chipper' aquatic whereas L'eau D'issey is a cold aquatic.

The price point on Shi is fantastic, and I would say this is a safe 'blind buy' for those who like clean aquatic fragrances.

faeriefractal

I blind bought Shi the other day for $10 at TJMaxxx, so you can't go horribly wrong there. At first spray, Shi reminded me of everything I hate in perfumery: sharpness, alcohol, cheap and sour men's cologne. It burnt my nose a little, sending me into a sneezing fit. However, my first day of wearing Shi was the warmest day of the Spring yet. It didn't fade much until the 3rd hour, and at that point, there was something tantalizing about this scent. I've worn it quite a bit over the last week because it's so casual and transparent, and I've grown to love that crisp sharpness–– nearly metallic, like rain on metal–– and the water lily blossoms beautifully if you overspray a bit on a warm day. I'd describe this as something of a shampoo scent, like Head and Shoulders original without being abrasive. The rice note is detectable on the drydown, becoming intimate and soft, like an elegant lady in a linen dress on a sailing boat. Shi is simple, relying heavily on those rice and water lily notes, but in its simplicity Shi reveals understated beauty. And I don't feel bad about generously spraying throughout the day. It's a pleasure everytime. Inoffensive but that's a plus.

UnearthlyApothecary

This isn’t really 100% my thing but it’s not half bad. I definitely get that fresh watery lotus and a wee bit of rice powder. I don’t get much else: no birch, no frangipani, maybe a smidge of orange blossom. For an aquatic freshie it’s pretty good and it avoids that dreadful calone overdose so prevalent in “fresh” scents. Very inoffensive and wearable and I can imagine appreciating it more when our temps soar this summer. Low to mederate silage, will update later on longevity.

soapycast

this is such an underrated gem, it's almost criminal. if you want to smell super clean and fresh and like you just rolled out of the drier, this is your thing. the almost fabric-softener-esque quality is balanced out with lovely florals and a slight fruitiness, so it's not just downy in a bottle. this is super inoffensive and workplace-friendly. you can get it for an amazing value, too. snatched it up for $17. love love love this.

c1cko

I finally understand what 'ozonic' means! It's a mineral tanginess? And I super love it here. I have no idea why 'leather' or 'smokiness' are here tho, I can't smell anything like that.
Aquatic white florals are kinda basic tbh, but they're a staple for summer for a reason. Shi is refreshing, well-blended. The best way I can describe it is that it smells like a waterlily pond made of mineral water that has an orange tree on its edge. I don't like aquatic florals but a lot of my collection is cloying/heavy in the humid summer... this is a safe summer scent that really blossoms in heat. The one and only floral summertime that I'll ever need. (Also the bottle is super cute!)

echurch1979

Alfred Sung's Shi is an aquatic, fresh scent seen many times over, and with various unsubstantial changes between each rendition. I really could end the review right here, but that is taking the easy way out, despite how true it really is. That is not to say this perfume isn't pleasing; it is. It is not to say that it isn't a great bargain for a fresh summer scent; it is. And certainly, it is not to say this isn't worth purchasing; again, it is. It simply recommends you do not invest with the intention that this perfume with evolve anything past pleasant. If you are sensitive to synthetic aquatic or floral notes, Shi possesses serious potential to ruin an already pleasant day with headache malaise. This was a recommended blind buy, and I don't regret its purchase. This punches up with a strong concentration of water lily and birch leaf. Nuances of orange blossom, frangipani, and mandarin get lost behind this soapy curtain. Rice leaf and musk seem listed as a technicality. I will say that dry down finds a more considerable cadence, as we began to see some glittery citrus sparkle, and soft, distant florals. Again, these are hints of the ingredients listed, and never truly distinguish themselves entirely against the heavy marine tempo. If I hadn't already loved others like this, I would probably be infinitely more enthusiastic, because this is lovely. It's just L'Eau par Kenzo and Haiku got there first, and did it better. Ultimately, though, my 100 ml tester cost me a lot less than some name brand samples...So, live a little. Have some fun, and see for yourself. I probably would not purchase this again, but I am not saddened to wear it either. As I've said, its lovely, fresh, and sparkling clean. It is what it is, and doesn't try to be anything more than another safe ozonic song. And that is all.

TaraRachelle

This is definitely a shampoo scent, but in a good way. I love it. I picked it up today at Marshall's for super cheap and sprayed on one arm in the car. Upon first spray, there's a gorgeous floral scent that quickly (under a minute) dissipates, and you're left with a sharper dry down-- that part reminded me of Issey Miyake. The middle was okay, but then about 20 minutes later, I was left with straight up shampoo. The sillage was decent. For several hours I kept getting whiffs of something wonderful (even with a surgical mask on) and realizing it was me. After about six hours, I could still smell it well if I sniffed my arm. Honestly the shampoo scent, while perhaps not uber sophisticated, is extremely pleasant-- clean and shower fresh, and frankly, I love the scent of a good shampoo. I could see myself using this up and repurchasing the 3.4. I only bought a 1.7, and I have over 100 perfumes in my collection, so I seldom use bottles up. I love it so much that I just blind-ordered three other Alfred Sung perfumes based on reviews here. His notes seem to all be fairly similar, and although his perfumes are not new/trendy, I think I'm going to be a fan. They're all super inexpensive now, too! This is a great buy, and a pretty safe blind buy.

I don't know why, but this fragrance reminds me of Josie Bissett on Melrose Place. There's something about this that is serving Jane Mancini vibes. Maybe because it's so light and pretty and Jane is light and pretty. But it's also serious, too, and so is Jane. Jane is the only female character on Melrose Place who never truly lost it. She always had her shit together. And that is this fragrance. Perhaps I'm doing it a disservice by writing about imaginary characters in relation to a bunch of scent molecules, but Sung just does that to me.

While I can see the Eau d'Issey comparisons, I would slightly disagree because Issey is a calone bomb (which I happen to love) and Shi is a calone-free zone, so if you hate calone you might enjoy this. The rice note is especially interesting and one that I'm not very familiar with; I think it's very perceptible when you know it's there, otherwise it can just smell like a cashmere note or some other unidentifiable blonde wood molecule. There is nothing masculine about this aquatic insofar as it couldn't be more different than Cool Water, but I can also see a man pulling this off. It does have that unisex potential.

And there's just something so 90s about Alfred Sung but I say that in the kindest way possible. Something classy and optimistic while also being timeless. I always get a very west coast Californian vibe from Sung and his perfumes and I think that's why this makes me think Melrose Place. Sung is Amanda Woodward and Shi is Jane Mancini. I admit these are the only two from his line that I'm familiar with, but I would love to get to know the rest. His offerings are always well blended and smart, never overdone.

Coffeeandperfume

The citrus is too sharp on me. I can almost smell ice. Bitter aquatic. Pass for me

Wwoman

On me, this is a "shampoo" scent if there ever was one. But that's a good thing, as I love soapy fresh scents especially in summer. I like that it has a little citrus edge to it, but the citrus doesn't overwhelm the other notes. The water lily comes across beautifully on me, and the musk is there, but just enough to give it depth. Definitely a safe blind buy for people who like soapy florals, considering the price.

Seaworthy

I picked up a bottle of this fragrance recently. It is rather sharp to my nose in the beginning but quickly settles down to a warm, yet green soapy clean fragrance. Very zen. After awhile the woody note comes out and stays throughout. A beautiful and versatile fragrance. Surprisingly long lasting on me for a clean scent like this, about 5 hours. Sillage is moderate for about an hour or so then becomes a very discernible skin scent. Totally office and church friendly as it sits close to the skin and should not be offensive to anyone. A really lovely fragrance. A win!

GiBaby

This is an extremely inexpensive aquatic, fresh, shampoo kind of scent i feel everyone should have in their collection (unless aquatic scents are not your thing lol). If you want to smell super fresh look no further! This kind of smells similar to the febreeze fabric freshener to me.

Scent: 7/10
Sillage: 7/10
Longevity: 7/10

This is beautiful! Very fresh and clean. Completely inoffensive. Perfect for a day time fragrance to be worn to the office. Really lovely. Light and watery. The dry down is so pretty. Leaves you feeling relaxed and positive. The price is very reasonable. Smells more expensive than it costs to buy. Lasting power is also great, especially for a perfume that is on the lighter side. Likable and dependable. The kind of scent that lifts your spirits and never let's you down!

876Beauty

This was recommended to me by Rhonda Lareese, one of my favorite YouTubers. I am mostly into sweeter, gourmand fragrances however this is an aquatic that I really love. I wear this to the gym daily and it lasts throughout. It smells fresh, aquatic and a bit soapy. My mom loves it so I will be purchasing one for her. I will be using this in the high summer heat for sure to cool me down

Mmartinez67

As other reviewers said, this is a soapy, clean, fresh scent. And I agree that it smells like fabric softener. I don't enjoy it on me. I still use it mixed with other perfumes, and maybe I'll manage to use it up, but I won't repurchase nor recommend it to anyone.

Update: I included this in the list of the ones I want to finish this spring-summer. I'll use it up pretty quickly because it last no longer than 2 hours on me so I have to reapply very often. Some times I sniff it (I literally have to put my nose directly against my arm to notice it, an hour after I sprayed it) and I realize is not that bad.....but it has a very harsh opening and then it quickly fades into almost nothing. I still think it doesn't worth it.

Fresh, clean, aquatic summertime fragrance. This feels like you're at the beach, on a boat ... if you go to a lakeside restaurant, this is the one to wear. I used to love it, but I got bored with it and only reach for it sometimes now. I still like it. I've had the perfume extract and right now I've got the edp. This can usually be found for around $20 so for the price it's good value. I've had Ming Shu but that was years ago and if I go by memory I could only say they were similar because they're both aquatic. I have Haiku now and smelling both of them I would say yes, they're very similar but Shi is a clear, lighter more quality smelling fragrance and Haiku a bit heavier and I don't want to say cheaper smelling but something along those lines.

Paigiedoo

Wearing this scent for the first time today and I love it! I could smell it when I opened the box and I got excited. Found a big bottle at TJ Maxx for $17 and figured I’d try it out after reading a few reviews. It was strong when first sprayed, and stayed that way for an hour or so, and then mellowed down quite a bit. To me, it’s aquatic and floral with a touch of citrus. This scent is totally perfect for summer, but I could see myself bringing it into the fall as well. When first sprayed, it sort of reminded me of CK One, which I haven’t smelled in years and years, but it was one of my mom’s scents when growing up. If you find this perfume at TJ Maxx/ Marshall’s for a reasonable price, I would totally suggest picking it up!

B!tchBrisket

Clean and fresh, a nice aquatic. Nothing special but it's nice for the price

DebiL1211

I don't really wear aquatic frags but I read the notes and wanted to try something different for myself. After reading the reviews and seeing that people said it is light and probably an easy aquatic to wear I added it to my test list. A few weeks ago I found a really good deal on a 100mL bottle so I blind bought it. I am so glad I did. The bottle is adorable and the scent is amazing. It is strong and harsh at first spray and I don't like it but once it dries down, it is amazing. Not sure what exactly I am smelling at first spray but it isn't nice. Once it dries down, I get the water lily, birch leaf, and rice leaf. It is a COLD feel. That is all that sits on my skin. I don't smell any other of the listed notes but I do smell a water note. It reminds me of how your skin smells after you have been swimming in the ocean in Florida. My hubby and I took a vacation to Pensacola a few years ago and when I smell this it is exactly how my skin smelled when we got out of the water. I love it. I can say this bottle will last me a while because I only use 2-3 sprays at most. It sits closer to the skin after a few hours and you could refresh. I stopped buying large bottles but this bottle was going to cost me less than a mini would so I figured why not.

SalinasL

Having loved L’eau d’Issey at one stage I became really interested in aquatic perfumes, and this is the next one that I got. It’s more watery than L’eau and possibly easier to wear, although both have notes that I don’t care for in the first few minutes. Shi is best for me when I want to smell especially fresh, like on very warm days, as otherwise it comes across as strident and lacking in sweetness and depth. I also find it more pleasant when outdoors, diffused with a bit of fresh air. A stranger in a store complimented me on smelling good while I was wearing this, but somehow it’s hit or miss for me. If aquatics are consistently good for you, this could be a great one.

Nicole f

Recently blind bought this little gem. It smells clean and fresh and reminded me of something that I already own but couldn't figure out which one, then it hit me it's cleans cool cotton, they smell really similar on Fabric. Can't wait for spring to wear this. If you like cool cotton you will definitely like this. I can't comment on lasting power as I haven't worn it a full day yet, but it definitely lasts long on fabric.

crea11

It’s quite sterile, and a little bitter. I don’t hate it, but I wouldn’t recommend.

meg0825

This clean and soapy fragrance will be great for summer. Not heavy at all. I mostly smell the fig leaf and water lily which is green and aquatic. There is some sweetness from the orange blossom and plumeria, but it's subtle. Very nice!

Ms. Jules

A fresh, crisp, cut green acquatic leaf scent, hint of white lily and grapefruit citrus. A suitable summer fragrance that is very clean and soft. Perfect fragrance for warm summer days, light and airy, feeling fresh. Nice light fragrance for year round when you want to wear something light. The bottle is a pretty raindrop shape.

annxyz

This is one underrated perfume! I always have a bottle for summer . It is the only aquatic I wear , but it is so lovely and unique . I do not smell powder or pear personally . I wish this fragrance had a bit MORE intensity and lasting power because I find it beautiful and have received compliments on it . This is an underrated scent , and one that the masses are not wearing , which I like. I find it feminine and think it would work perfectly in an environment where strong scents are discouraged.

It lasts several hours, but does not have a lot of sillage . It is definitely not loud , but it is VERY pretty . It is great for hot weather, and for places where stronger scents are discouraged. I adore this scent , as does my best friend .

SHI smells like some of the older Shiseido scents to me . It is what I call a sort of “zen “ style fragrance - very understated . I smell bamboo , but it may not be listed. I think it is far nicer than Gucci Bamboo personally .

yuliannart

The bottle is very appropriate for the juice inside: it's clean, serene, translucent. It does smell like a bar of Dove soap, but more than that. The fig leaf in the opening is quite clear, and the sweet citrus in the middle is beautiful. It stays on for a long time keeping you feeling fresh. If you have tried birch juice, this is what it reminds me of: slightly sweet but pure and fresh.

gabbi4god

I literally went and bought this at TJ Maxx based solely on the “ it smells like clown shoes” comment! Lolol I have to say it’s not bad. An easy everyday type of fragrance.

Maya.ArroyoBurton

Oh man... I am addicted to this perfume.... I brought this several years ago when I went on a shopping spree for perfume. I blind brought this from TJ Maxx (when they use to have a decently priced perfume section) and I was instantly in love.. I love how soft and easy it is to wear. Perfect for all occasions... I now have to stock up on it because I never want to run out.. Time to get the big size!!!!

AHeartLikeMine

A light, slightly powdery scent. Not floral, nor fruity. A very grown-up office scent. The water lily note smells awful on clothes, like some sort of chemical/plastic combination. It's much better on skin.

stacia79

This was so much sweeter and fruitier than I was expecting. Didn't smell citrus to me though, more like pear juice. It dries down to that watery musk that is common in many floral aquatics (Dolce or Ming Shu are listed in the 'reminds me of' and I would have to agree with both of those). Shi is that soft, indiscernible floral musk that is so popular for office wear because it's safe. That's not my favorite scent genre in any way but if you like sweet airy dryer sheet esque perfumes, Shi can be found quite inexpensively.

Alces Alces

Shi smells clean from the water lily and orange blossom, but it's not really a strong aquatic, certainly nothing like Cool Water or any of those strong calone aquatics from the nineties. It does have that blue Dove Soap smell and real freshness. More than anything it smells clean. Projection is nothing like Alfred Sung's other scents I have worn (Pure, Sung, and Sung Homme). Those are much stronger; Shi is rather light.

The plumeria/frangipani comes out in the dry down. That's a dated note for those of us who have been consciously enjoying perfumes for decades; plumeria was everywhere about 15-20 years ago. Not saying it's a bad note - I really enjoy this. Just nostalgic.

Shi makes a great hot weather all-purpose daytime scent if you are tired of citrus. More fresh than actually floral, but that's good when it's super hot. Safe for wearing to work, too.

opalescenttreeshark

This was a blind buy because it was only 10 bucks.

Unfortunately, I think I will be getting those 10 bucks back. This just doesn't wow me and there is a note in here that kind of ruins it. I don't know if it's the rice, the birch, or what. Just not quite the aquatic I was looking for.

jg2758

Lovely bottle!

So the flower I couldn't identify is water lily. It's a low pitched floral, an alto instead of a soprano. I honestly couldn't smell the fruit or citrus though.

Worth trying for floral fans who want something a bit different.

Jobob

I just blind bought this because the packaging caught my eye and decided to read the reviews here while I was in the store. I don't have any aquatic fragrances and some of the reviews said it smells like dove soap.I figured hey I like dove soap. It does have a crisp and clean right out of the shower smell which I love. The lotus notes really come out on me. I really love this fragrance and want to explore other aquatics now. Glad I picked this fragrance up.

Timby

I just blind bought this because I found it for cheap. While it does not blow my socks off, it is a very nice summer scent that I will likely wear everyday, to work, shopping, at the cottage- just whenever I want a fragrance to just put on.

Starts off crisp, but mellows to a soft floral, slightly sweet, but without being cloying. Not powdery, not complicated. Easy to wear. Seems like a summer relative to "Neiges"by Lise Watier.

It is a cool, aquatic floral - I cannot see it offending anyone, and so would even make a nice gift - and, I would add, for every age - from teens to the mature.

It is not an evening scent I think.

I will definitely finish the bottle happily.

sibaraa

There is no perfume aspect at all in this, all it smells like is fresh out of the shower blue Dove soap that lasts a while, that's all there is to it.

SmellumGoodum

It never ceases to amaze me how varied are the responses to a particular perfume! I am just learning about notes and the various classifications of fragrances. I tried this one years ago and didn't care for it but didn't know why. Tried it again today and I realize I still don't like it but now I know why - aquatic or marine-type fragrances are just not my thing.

jreyes366

I'm not really here to leave such a unique review because I feel the same way you all feel about it.

It's very crisp, fresh, light, airy, mellow, cooling, and calming.

I love getting the first cold opening blast from this beauty. The rice leaves and the water lily make an amazing team alongside the clean woods.

The drydown is really mellow and soft, more of a skin scent perhaps, based upon how much of this fragrance you apply. I wholeheartedly agree that this fragrance is so compatable with heat (high heat at that) and continues to be fresh. I'd not hesitate to categorize this into 'shampoo, soap, fresh out of the shower clean vibe"

Overall, an amazing fragrance for such an affordable price. If you like aquatic florals or just fresh scents in general, this is a REALLY safe blind buy.

lovealwaysalisa

I blind bought this after reading and watching reviews. I was in search of some new fresh and clean fragrances to add to my collection. Aquatics are not my favorites, as they tend to give me headaches easily. They seem to smell metallic and alcohol like to me, which doesn't work with my chemistry. But this fragrance intrigued me anyway due to the reviews from others who also aren't huge aquatic lovers either . Anyway, I found this for an awesome price online and have been wearing for 2 days now to test it out.

First of all, the bottle is pretty. Very pure and simple look to it. Now the fragrance itself....the opening, I don't like. It is very floral and a bit harsh. Almost chemical smelling. BUT ...give it 10 to 20 mins to settle a bit and it is LOVELY. SERENE , is good word to describe the overall "feel" of this. Soft, floral/soapy, slightly powdery, musky, clean, cool and watery. Note how I said watey rather than aquatic. I say this because it is so soft and smooth rather than screechy as many "aquatics" are to me. More like fresh water rather than salty marine water. A very clean, very subtle, very "snuggly " fresh skin scent. It kind of reminds me of freshly washed and dried laundry. I really like it. My boyfriend seems to love this scent on me and likes to snuggle his face in my neck when I'm wearing this. On me this sits close to the skin and lasts maybe 4-5 hours tops. Smells much better on my skin than spraying directly on clothes. Without the warmth of my skin it never seems to reach that yummy snuggly clean drydown. I am very pleased with this blind buy. I will get a lot of use out of thus one this coming spring and summer. This one is a definite KEEPER!

Mbrock

This is very pretty. I may love it but I need more time with it, its def a strong like. Such a beautiful, classy scent. Moderate longevity and sillage. The price is right as well. I would highly recommend anyone trying this, even as a blind buy. Its a really lovely aquatic floral.

Peachypool

I remember I bought this perfume on a whim many many years ago at a TJ Maxx and I was very satisfied! I recently picked this up at Marshall's right along with Emerald Palms and it still smells so fresh. This is one of my favorite summer scents. It's light and airy and reminds me of summer. Love, love, love it. Yes, whomever compared this scent to Avon's Haiku...spot on!

LaelMitchell

This scent is heavenly. If I could describe it I would say it's definitely clean, fresh, and aquatic. It kinda has an Ivory or Dove soapiness to it. It's a great fragrance for hot summer days because its so fresh, lightweight, and delicate. If I could compare it to another perfume I've tried I would say it gives me Armani "Aqua Di Guoia" vibes. I mean it definitely has some floral notes in it but overall its more fresh and aquatic. It gives me the warm and comforting vibes of a rainy day when you wanna stay cozy and warm in bed. Oh and on me it lasts for HOURS!

Rog24787

I wore this a lot at one time. A beautiful airy floral scent that was a great daytime perfume. I haven't wore it in sometime.

ladyjm89

The reformulated version of this is a synthetic mess. The original was a clean, sexy, airy delight reminiscent of a summer day spent splashing in park fountains, gazing at ponds filled with blooming lily pads and staring up at fluffy white clouds. It’s refreshing and aquatic, but not sharp at all, very soft and feminine with just a hint of musk and fruitiness.

savageinstrangeland

I bought this because I am a huge lover of rice notes and clean fragrances. Since Shi was recommended as being both and under 20$, I blind bought it.

Well, it's definitely clean! Almost sterile even. Super-duper-uber aquatic and aquatics just read as "cheap" to me. I don't know why, that's just how my nose perceives them. It could be a 300$ bottle but if it's overtly aquatic, I'm going to think dollar store imitation fragrance. So I think that really holds me back from the ability to love it and I want all readers who do appreciate aquatic fragrances to know this so you can take my review with a grain of salt.

That said, here's what I DO like about it: Shi has that rice note and it lends a slighty creamy powdery effect that without it the fragrance would just be straight up generic "mountain rain" scented dryer sheet in a bottle. This note really rides into the drydown like a white knight and plays savior for me.

As I said before, this is clean as promised. It's a different type of clean than I typically go for but clean nonetheless. I tend to like more soapy, powdery cleans whereas this has that crisp freshness. But I do think I could come to appreciate it. This could work come really hot weather. It's fairly unique as far as typical summer fragrances that are popular right now. I'm definitely keeping my bottle to at least give it a solid whirl this summer.

Not my best blind buy, but certainly not even close to my worst!

mila476

Finally I've found it! My mother used to wear this, but I never knew what it was, and I spent so much time trying to figure out what fragrance it was in that memorable bottle... My mom can't really wear a lot of perfumes because they give her headaches, but this one was an exception. I don't remember what it smelled like, but it must have been quite light and fresh for my mother to have been able to wear it. Her favorite perfume was Chanel No. 5 but it was one of the ones she couldn't wear, so perhaps if you like that you'll like this. I suppose it's pointless to write a review of a fragrance you can't remember the smell of, but I was so excited to finally be able to put a name to the bottle that I simply couldn't contain myself.

jlandau1984

This is one of the very few aquatic and/or white floral fragrances I like. This perfume is great for a warm or hot summer day. It is fresh, clean and feminine, which isn't always an easy blend to find with in an aquatic aroma meant for women. I find myself grabbing for this after taking a hot bath or before I am going to do cardio. Alfred Sung made a classic with this one... Have loved it for 15 years now.

cyl1185

When this first came out it was kinda of pricey but of course after awhile I was able to find it for $10-$14 and at that price I bought 8 of them I kept 3 and sent my friends some in the mail.

Alfred Sung has a history of softer scents so I figured I would like this one. I love how clean this smells and at $14 for a 3.4fl/oz I mean I couldn't beat that size/price ratio. It's definitely a must for my perfume collection. I will always make sure I have this one. It's my dirty/clean secret dirt cheap for clean price.

tenacious e

If you live in a hot climate and feel like a sweathog just stepping outside then you might like Shi. It's aquatic without being warm or musky. The florals are not too heavy or loud. It's delicate and feminine without being weak. Overall, it's refreshing and clean. I wish it lasted longer but for the price it's going for these days I don't think twice about refreshing around midday. It's not my favorite fragrance but it is the only one in my collection that I feel has a purpose and that is it makes me feel clean and fresh in heat and humidity and for that reason I'll keep buying it and wearing it.

rachelannsuraj

Such a crisp and clean scent. I couldn't stop taking a sniff of it as it simmered with my body's chemistry in the hot, humid Caribbean sun. It was like a breath of the most purest cool breeze. It is not over bearing .

Such a beautiful potion to have on the skin. Mild, sweet and clean.

I would recommend it for daily wear to school as I am doing. It won't be distracting and it won't claw at other's nostrils. I don't really wear one specific perfume for too long as I tend to get fed up of the same scent. There are a few scents that I cling to and this would be one. I regret only getting the 50ml bottle but sure enough I would restock this to my collection.

The design of the bottle is simple but exquisite. I use the cover to lift it into the palm of my hands and it feels like a magical transit. The soft touch of the cover's material is such a delight and the colours are perfect representations of the calm and tranquil water of a mystical lake. Peaceful and serene in its entirety...

The only con is that the silage and longivity is just moderate. I wished that it would last on my skin for the entire day as Ralph Lauren Midnight Romance does. That perfume adheres to me! I do love it so and I love laying on my pillow and having it sink into the fabric giving me an ever so pleasurable whiff of such a mysteriously entrancing concoction.

In essence Shi is certainly a masterpiece of refreshing flavor.

Annalisa12

I really like this perfume. This is my second time buying it it's just as lovely as I remember it. It's a clean, fresh, slightly powdery scent.

HighCountryEsq

Start to finish Shi is a great fragrance and as a fan of Water Lily this doesn't disappoint. For the price these days you almost have to be crazy not to have a bottle for Spring and Summer. The longevity on me is great for a fresh scent at 8+hrs with 3-4 sprays. I also have a bottle of Hei and I think a spray of Shi might work well layered with it but I have not tried.

Update: Shi layers great with Hei. I highly recommend giving it a whirl.

Linda JK

Shi by Alfred Sung is one of my favorite blind-buys. It's clean, fresh, light, and floral.

I have a strange relationship with this scent because ordinarily, I'd be reaching for this type of fragrance every day. However, there is something in Shi (probably just one note) that I don't particularly care for, and I'm not sure what it is. As such, I wear it only when it suits my mood and mostly on my clothing, not on my skin.

This works best (for me) during the summer. I can't stand heavy floral or citrusy scents when it's hot because my skin doesn't really carry them well.

This opens a little sharp but develops quickly and dries down to something clean, soft, and pleasant-- as such, it can be used in any environment. I would confidently wear this to the office knowing it won't offend those who can't tolerate strong perfumes.

I still have an almost full bottle but would definitely repurchase this one.

Germanblonde

It's a smoldering heat outside, and I noticed that I grab more for Shi than for any other fragrances from my perfume chest for a couple of days now. I am usually a woman that loves sweet fragrance, but right now it's WAY too hot for sweet. Yesterday I wore Bronze Goddess, and this was even too sweet for this heat wave, even though usually I would consider it a more citrusy fragrance. I have plenty of summer fragrances, but many get too fresh, this is just perfect.

celebrity89

Pretty close to David Yurman Fresh Essence. Not too exciting. Drydown is like Bath and Body Japanese Cherry Blossom.

Konga5000

Opens up like "I've smelled this all before...possibly fabric softener" . But hang on. Let the opening finish......and even though there's no real "heart" here........the dry-down is very nice & white and creamy! Almost a tuberose scent -- even though it's not listed.

If you like white floral this is worth the $16.99 from T.J. RossMarshalls !

annxyz

This is my favorite kind of floral - clean and light . I tire quickly of heavy white flowers like gardenia or tuberose. They do not appeal to me in perfume, though they are lovely in nature .

I totally love Shi , and it is one I never want to be without . I find it PERFECT for hot, humid sticky weather that Southerners know well . It feels literally cool to me and call me crazy , but it smells like a perfume version of zen in a bottle. I really do not smell a strong floral note, nor a strong citrus note. It smells like flowers in a wet garden along with a soft musk . It is light , but still a perfume that has resulted in some memorable compliments from men I do not know ( a lady does not forget that ) . You do not have to fear annoying anyone who complains about "sensitivity" to perfume . I find very unique and an enormous bargain these days . Not many folks are rushing to buy it because it is not sugary , so that is another nice benefit .

LadyPilot

What a wonderful summer scent!!! It's winter here but after testing it, I already saw myself on a sunny summer morning, on the beach, dressed in white and walking along the shore, breathing in the ocean breeze! It is aquatic but not salty, it's pretty long-lasting, which I love, as longevity is hardly ever the case with aquatic scents. It is fresh, cool (if not cold), crispy, white floral notes are very distant - like the wind from a seaside garden.

tessinator

Bought this one @ fragrancenet.com. At $14 for a new 3.4 EDP tester, thought it was reasonable. Something about this fragrance... When you first apply, it's harsh. After about 20 minutes it only starts to mellow out. Thought it would be more calming and soft (my sister had it and remembered a "spa fragrance"). Was looking forward to water lily, rice and orange/citrus but honestly it smells like air freshener. Disappointed with SHI, won't buy again.

veritech

I am really happy with this fragrance. Light, fresh, sweet and pretty. I can get the citrus along with the watery, flowery notes. Lots of love for this!

orangepekoe

I remember complementing this Russian girl on her perfume and she said it was Shi. That's how I learnt of this perfume. I had so much perfumes that I couldn't add more. Now I can and I saw it on sale at the store near me. I tried the tester and I love how it is soft, and not sickly sweet or heavy. It reminds me of green, green herbs and grass and meadows. Like I'm in the countryside. I like Sung forever too but I find this one to be less sweet than the Forever perfume. I see this perfume matching a delicate type of person.

lilybet11

Shi is a pretty perfume that's perfect for office/school (or any time you'll be in close groups). This perfume stays close to the skin, so you won't be leaving scent trails unless you're very heavy-handed in your application. I get about 9-10 hours out of it.

On my skin, Shi is a very nice water lily/orange blossom/musk scent. I could pick up on the citrus element for only the first hour or so. I see most recommend this for spring/summer - I honestly think this could be worn year-round. Lovely stuff; very feminine.

TLInsanity

I like this for a light, daily wear.
Nothing really stands out but it is nice and subtle.

jan24

This fragrance is way too aquatic for me.. it almost reminds me of my Method shower anti-scum spray. I can see it working well for people who naturally have muskier, richer body chemistries, but for me (Asian, no B.O.), I need something that has a bit more depth.

Django7

I love this perfume. A lot of things smell strange on my skin but this smells beautiful. I often use the body wash first before I wear this and it adds a little extra warmth. The rice note gives a softness to this clean scent that makes it unique. It also smells a little salty on my skin which I actually like. One of those "my skin but better" perfumes. It is very light but I personally have had compliments several hours after spraying so, there is some lasting power and some sillage. Excellent for daytime, all seasons. A scent for smelling great without drawing crowds.

AirHale

Unfortunately I don't like this :( makes me dizzy.

*_Lilly_*

Picked this up last night so I am giving a short, quick-take review. It's a soft aquatic, fresh and clean...so far I like it :)
More later...
Now that is is cooler I put this on today. The initial blast is a bit strong and I can't say I love it but it's tolerable (this is not the usual scent family I gravitate towards) the middle and dry down or end of the fragrance story is where I enjoy this most. Very safe, clean but more floral/aquatic. I think if the rice note wasn't in it I wouldn't like it as much. I don't consider this fruity however, but floral yes. Very work safe scent. The longevity is pretty good and I only used two sprays.

Mdox407

So...this is my fourth fragrance by this fragrance house and I am starting to believe many reviews and consider this house the masters of "office scents."

All 4 that I've smelled and own so far...are very pleasant smelling but SO extremely inoffensive. There's no way any of them will stink, make anyone sneeze, offend anyone's senses, or be intrusive to their personal space as they all have the perfectly moderate sillage.

This one is exactly the same way. To me...this smells much more floral than it does of citrus notes. I mostly smell an aquatic, white floral, pretty, somewhat alcohol-ey fragrance, but in a pleasant way. Projection is perfect for an office setting as it projects 1-2 feet for about 2 hours and then for another 2 hours it sits very close to skin. Towards the very end of it's run (for the last hour or so) it almost smells alittle sweet, but also in a pleasant way.

Of the four that I own from Alfred Sung...this is my third favorite; the first being Jewel (my god that one smells incredible) and my second favorite being Always. But still, this one smells quite good and is very clean to put on right after a shower and when you're heading off to work. There couldn't be a more perfect purpose for this fragrance than that.

Scent Itself - 7/10

Longevity - 4 hours (Good projection for 2 of them)

Sillage - PERFECT for the office. Perfectly medium if you know what I mean. Not offensive, not too weak. About 2 feet for the first 2 hours.

Overall Rating - 7.5/10

Side note - Also a plus that you can find this very cheap at TJ Maxx or even on Ebay. I got the big 100ml bottle at TJ Maxx for $15. :)

SunnyYG

This is a very feminine and fresh fragrance that I liked when I owned it. The citrus and florals were not offensive. i confess I was attracted to the bottle more than the average notes in the bottle. I never had the urge to buy a replacement bottle when I finished the first.

Cloverstone

Citrus, aquatic, white florals, fresh, very clean and spicy...all of my favourite notes. Add a hint of woody to it and it would be even better imo!

I find this perfume very easy to wear on its own for any occasion, day or night, inoffensive and easy to grab without much thought when running out the door to feel clean and invigorated.

I enjoy layering SHI in the evening with heavier, non citrusy fragrances with woody notes and/or a soft light musk and it very much changes the vibe of it, making for a much more alluring and sexy scent that always grabs attention and compliments. It has a good base, lasting longevity and the right amount of sillage to be able to wear with almost any other scent you may wish to layer with too.

A great perfume to have in your collection if you lean towards citrus and white florals...a bonus it you like to play around with layering your scents. ☺

Ferminadaza

It's white light in a bottle.

Very aquatic with none of the saltiness often associated with such scents. The rice notes lend a creaminess that supports the watery notes. This creaminess gives the perfume a clean skin quality to it that imbues warmth in what might otherwise be a very cool and impersonal composition.

Honestly, it smells like a very high end and expensive spa type lotion.

I do like it as a basic go-to bottle for spring and summer. It differs from much of what is generally found on the market in that same category.

I currently have a 50 ml bottle of EDP which I'm trying to get through during this summer. We'll see. I am halfway

The longevity is moderately long at about 5-6 hours in comparison to other frags in this category. The sillage is an arms length.

Missisjoker

The perfume smells exactly like the bottle looks- very clean, fresh and watery. It reminds me of white Kenzo stripped of floral notes. Has a hint of salt and a touch of citrus in it, but not too much. On some skin might get a bit sour - but that's just chemistry. Do not spray it in excess and try not to breathe in when you spray, you might be sneezing. Perfect for office wear, very light and inoffensive.

Tussa

A bit generic scent, there is something I do not like so much, but overall not bad at all. Good value for its current price, but I would not buy it again.

Mrs.Allard

Shi by Alfred Sung is one of my favorites. It's very fresh, light, and pretty. I like it for day time wear but I will wear it at night occasionally during warmer months. It smells like a pure clean scent kinda like Issey Miyake L'eau d'Issey eau de toilette, but there is a distinct citrusy smell to it unlike the Issey which smells only floral. It is also way more affordable than the Issey, 1 oz of shi is only $20!!! at a perfume store no less.

lisaminner69

This is one of my ultimate favorites. I discovered it by accident about 6 years ago and have bought it faithfully since. It's sometimes hard to find in my area so when I do find it, I stock up. I have 3 bottles at the moment.

AntigoneAscending

Oh my! This is an amazingly soapy, fresh, watery floral! It smells heavenly! I can't pinpoint any specific notes I just love the way it smells. It does cling closely to the the skin, but that smell is just so wonderful as it wafts around you. It is comforting but not heavy. It is simply delightful and sublime! I love this scent!!!!!

alias222

descreet, clean, light... like water (read: Cool water by Davidoff!).
Blind buy for me, and doesn't work well with my skin so If you want it - let me know, I'm ready to sell 100 ml of it.

SorceressOfTheDark

Shi is a delightful open-air scent that's rice-based and does remind me of delicious steamed rice. It's not a thick perfume, it's more watery, it's green, bamboo-like, but that's not a listed note. You can sense a burnt tarry finish in the dry down that gives Shi a masculine edge to make this a perfect aquatic, it's just different enough. It's atypical, and I like that. It's not boring. I love rice as a note and in this it's absolutely perfect. Although normally a scent like this would be good for hot summer days, I'd also recommend this for three seasons of the year. Lasts for a good four to six hours. Wear Shi as a comfort perfume to relax or when you're just hanging out with friends.

Dort0625

I found this today at Walmart for 34.95 for the 100ml bottle! I remembered that I loved this a number of years ago, maybe it was when it first came out...it doesn't smell as good as I remember it smelling! Don't get me wrong, it's a very lovely smell. Nice and Airy aquatic light fragrance! Nice perfume, nothing ground breaking but it's a pretty and light smell

fragrantperfumes

Every perfume I own seemed too heavy for me today, until I remembered this one. It's a soft beautiful aquatic that has moderate longevity.

Walai

Shi is the first aquatic perfume that I like, maybe because of its citrus and floral. After spraying for a while, it gives out a beautiful clean smell.

Blåsten

This is such fresh and clean smelling. i get the feeling of looking outside my window on a rainy day. it is cooling and aquatic, but somehow still floral. love this! great staying power, and other people like the smell too!

becuille

This is such a pretty, well rounded aquatic floral. It's easy to wear any time or place. It's inoffensive but not at all boring. And it's great value for money. All this adds up to it being a staple in my collection.

Freshwater aquatic rather than saltwater - think crystalline lake in a forest clearing. This is predominately fragnipani, musk and gentle woods. The dry down becomes woodier and richer while the opening is fruitier.

My only complaint is that I wish I could smell more lotus. It's such a beautiful note, but I don't get much of it here.

I love this. It might not be breaking any great barriers in perfume making, but it's pretty, fresh, wearable and versatile.

Longevity is around 6 hours, sillage is soft.

LisaLovesPerfume

Shi is a great perfume for summer. It is floral with a bit of an aquatic note. It is not very strong, so it is perfect for the office or very hot days. Light, aquatic and non-offensive. It is not a salty aquatic at all...like Aqua Motu...another favorite of mine. This is more of a watery scent. It is very likable and easy to wear.

Jmalone84

Where is the lotus flower among the notes? First off, this smells very sharp when first sprayed, but give it a chance. Smells more like a green floral to me almost, didn't realise at first it was an aquatic fragrance (despite the bottle duh). Bought this for my Mum and she loves it & has used half the bottle already in just a few months. It doesn't last forever, and sillage is moderate, but over all it is a surprisingly nice, complex & well put together fragrance given how damn cheap it is. Wouldn't buy again but it is nice for what it is. Has a nice clean soapy, musky dry down which is very pleasant. Give it a good 6.5/10 !

all4knowledge

This was a blind buy on Ebay I made after reading about the notes on this site.
I was taken aback when I first sprayed it - it smelled very much like Cool Water (for women), which I HATE.
However, after that initial sharp, nauseating watery note tones down, it turns into a soft aquatic/floral/musky scent - just beautiful.
Just give it time develop & you'll see...

Kelsi87

Bright, clean and somewhat generic, but not in a bad way. Love it for when I just want to smell inoffensively "good". Longevity is poor but this pops up for ridiculously cheap at the Winners where I am so I don't mind having to reapply often. Will keep around.

Karineabdel

I have a 100 ml to swap or sell.
I live in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

Emmayunee

Its opens a bit Sharp..like a body splash, but very floral and bright, its my favorite part. I love this fragrance bc it smells so clean and frosty. After a settles...I get soft waterlillies, the spicy birch and musk...woody but not a creamy wood, more toward pine woody. Which is why its so aquatic smelling imo. It remains sharp and woody through out but with less floral...To me it smells like wet laundries straight from the washer...basically soapy wet linen. Call me weird but I LOVE that smell. Lasts 2-3 hrs on skin, about 5hrs on clothes. I can't seem to smell it on myself after an hr. but everyone else does, and I get compliments everytime. My only complaint is that I wished it lasted longer....but the scent itself makes up for its short commings =) bc Ive yet to find any aquatics that smells this bright and fresh.

Fhaldara

Very pretty, light floral that could be worn anywhere. My taste in fragrances tends to aromatic, citrusy unisex scents but I wanted at least one light floral of this type to wear on those occasions when I feel its needed. This fits perfectly. I find it to have a bit of a synthetic scent as it dries down, but most floral/aquatics tend to smell synthetic on me.

fetus

this smells so beautiful and clean! like fresh from the shower all day

ckernan

This was my signature scent in my 20's, and I will happily leave it there. Not to say it is a bad scent, but after recently trying it on again, find it to be a little too young and too pungent for my current tastes. Shi has a very crisp aquatic scent, reminding me of a fresh cold shower, and has very sharp floral notes. These days I find the floral notes to be overcomplicated, overpowering, and almost sickly sweet - there's just too much going on for me to enjoy it for any length of time. It is nice enough to smell very briefly out of the bottle or on someone else, but I personally can't wear it for more than 10 minutes before the strong scent makes my stomach turn and I have the desire to wash it off. It might be fresh and clean, but there is nothing subtle, delicate, or elegant about this perfume IMO.

Lovesmells

sorry i forgot! but to my nose, it is also similar to another Sung - "forever"

Lovesmells

I just got this as a blind buy as well for 19.99usd (sept 2014)
It is a strong lily like scent. I would say on the side of aquatic, which I am not a big fan. But it definitely have a place for collectors and for pleasurable scents. I also own Haiku Avon, and this latter is much sweeter than this ( if you want to trakde Haiku, drope me a line). If I had to compare it with any other of these types would be the Green Teas from Elizabeth Arden.
I will keep it, enjoy it. I can't return it because I opened it in the car and literally the cellophane flew out of my hnad and out the window. This had never happened to me while opening stuff in the car ( I'm sure you do that too, right?)

happycapybara

Okay, this is going to be a negative review, so I will duck if I make anyone mad :(
I vehemently dislike this fragrance. It reminds me of a product that I purchased to clean my shower but ended up throwing away. (smells like TILEX)

It is SO sharp and so stingingly artificial, synthetic cleaner-like. I tried using it as air freshener but even that gave me a headache. This does not agree with me and causes nausea and imminent distress! Even thinking about it, kind of makes me a little queasy...

Rei

After reading reviews on this site, I tracked down a 1.7oz bottle of this at TJMaxx for $15. For a blind-buy, I'm extremely pleased!!

I've been looking for aquatic fragrances that aren't too sweet on my skin, and this one fits the bill nicely. I was incredibly surprised with just how pleasant it smelled for the price. It does slightly remind me Dolce by D&G-- I think that might be the water lily/musk combination coming through--, except this is definitely MUCH brighter and less floral (whereas Dolce seems to be a bit "murky"). As many reviews have stated, it's a very gentle, lovely and clean scent. Faintly soapy after dry down, which I enjoy. (Despite being labeled "Floral Fruity", the citrus notes are very subtle and well-balanced with the florals.)

My only complaint is that it has very poor staying power with my body chemistry. It's quite strong/headache-inducing during initial spray but quiets down fast. It can be easily overpowered by other beauty products that are strongly scented, as I recently discovered while testing a dry shampoo spray.

I'll still be continuing my hunt for a signature scent, however Shi is definitely a keeper!

odie

A very classy oriental type perfume I think, it does hit that aquatic note with a dry down like "Bora Bora" on me, for water lily, mandarin orange and orange blossoms are elements in both fragrances.

My other sister, the Lalique lover bought this one, its not for me and doesn't last long on my skin. However, I can appreciate the fresh, clean, cool opening notes. A keeper!

cyanne

Clean and light. I have several bottles that I will probably wear for clinicals in nursing school where we will have to go for a clean, natural scent as well as style. Great for summer too.

pravda48

TIP FOR EVERYONE GETTING HEADACHES FROM THIS:

Try spritzing while holding your breath, then walk away from where you sprayed it for a while. Also don't breath through your nose for 5 mins or so, and don't 'spot sniff' once it's on you.

This should prevent headaches (if anything can) and allow you to get lovely whiffs of it throughout the duration of the fragrance. It will also give you a better idea of how it smells to those around you :)

Will be back with my review of the scent itself later.

Fragaria

I had mixed emotions and was in no hurry to buy this from reviews. For the price of 3.00 one can't go wrong...or can they!? Well not THIS time! I like this one a lot. I agree that it's terribly similar to Haiku, which to me, also smells like lily of the valley. That's pretty much all I get out of this, and that's not a negative, I love flowers and pick loads of lily of the valley every spring. What I find amazing about this perfume is that even though it lays VERY close to the skin, it's quite strong but still pleasant. I find nothing but positive things to say about this. This is a year around flowery ladies scent. I do wish the cap was a bit prettier. It's color really makes the cheap plastic stand out while holding in your hand. The bottle itself is an eye catcher with it's pretty watery color. I think anyone liking traditional flowery perfumes will find this enjoyable and realistic.

*Edit*
I am not sure how I found out exactly, but this top isn't plastic, it seems to be a heavy metal of some type. I feel a little better they didn't purposely make it so cheap, but it still looks horrible, plastic, and fake. Such an awful thing to do to such a pretty bottle and liquid, and yet...the silver IS beautiful with blue!

I had it once,I don't remember how exactly it was, but if it smells CLEAN/SOAPY/FRESH+a hint of fruit, I will give it a thump up immediately.

mrsames77

This has been what I have been wearing for a while now. It smells clean and fresh to me. I like it! :)

Shi is a light, summery, soapy fragrance. It initially opens with clean lotus blossoms. However, the middle and base notes are rather musky. This scent reminds me of Acqua di Gioia with a hint of Jovan Musk Oil. Unfortunately, the musk gave me a headache, so I had to give this one to a friend. Sung by Alfred Sung remains my favorite from the collection.

brandiwine1980

This was yet another perfume that I blind bought and had to try several times before appreciating. It is strong and sharp at first spray, but dries down into a rather lovely, comforting, clean scent. I can detect orange blossom, lotus and finally a hint of musk. I have tried this one, Pure and Jewel from Sung and am eager to try more. In my opinion they all smell expensive, but they are not. I love them and will always have a Sung in my collection.

this is actually not bad! bought it blind at marshall's, i think it's a good buy.

perfumeaddiction

This was a blind purchase. I agree with many others the first spray is bitey and strong. I can see where it could induce a headache. However despite the sharpness and initial strength the fragrance is quite pretty. As it dies down it becomes a gentle soft feminine scent. Unlike most of my other parfums which fade rapidly and have no strength this one is different. It's got lasting power and siliage. I do not find it offensive or repelling at all. Just initially quite strong with a nice fade down. I got a good price so I feel I got my money's worth.

I bought a gift set of this after smelling it in a store and liking it quite a bit. After I brought it home I never really used it. Any time I put it on, it lacked in comparison to everything I already had. I should have immediately put the set on eBay, but I was stubborn and tried to force myself to accept what I had bought and enjoy it. It eventually turned, and it was basically a new bottle. Never used the lotion either. I can't remember if I gave it away or heaved it. What a complete waste . . .

pipergirl

The opening notes are a bit sharp and bitey, rather off putting. But once this fragrance settles a bit on my skin the dry down is really nice. It's a sexy fresh, just showered clean with a touch of elegance. It strikes me as a wearable, versatile, noticeable yet subtle scent that can be worn both day and evening - especially nice for hot, humid summers. 2 sprays is plenty and lasts for a long time on me.

itsallgood

I bought this by mistake, yet found it interesting so I kept it. It was my first and only aquatic perfume. Very light and lasting. If I was more into water type scents, this would definitely be a keeper.

fire2heart

Horrid, headache inducing, nauseating stink on me! I have no idea which note it is, because I think if it didn't have that note, I'd like it... I was able to return it, thankfully.

sand and surf

This is one of my all time favorites! Very clean and just out of the shower fresh. Haven't had a compliment on my perfume in years, until I wore this the other day. Will repurchase if I can find it.

Venus193

Ever since Yves Rocher discontinued Ming Shu and Jardin des Nymphes I've been hoping to revive that scent. This is the closest I've found to those; it has a slightly musky note not found in the YR scents. The water lily fuses with the orange blossom into a lovely hybrid that smells fresh and clean; perfect for mornings. The bottle is the perfect design and the juice the perfect color to reflect this scent.

Chicagobelle

Within 24 hours, I bought Shi and gave it away! It made me feel sick and gave me a headache at first whiff! I heard so much rave about it and bought it blindly. I gave it away that same evening. It has such a strong smell of something I cant describe.

karlovonamesti

Shi is simple and rather linear (also quite short-lived on skin), and altogether lacking in texture or contrast, yet completely lovely. I get none of the exotic notes listed in the pyramid above, although it's tempting to suggest that things like water lily, rice leaf, and frangipani coalesce into Shi. I do get a bit of orange blossom, musk, and mandarin orange. Layered with that are more intense notes of pear and green apple, in all their juicy, acidic glory. Tucked between the fruits is a sweet violet note, deftly carrying the edibles into the cleanly abstract, aquatic base. Ilias Ermenidas is the prolific nose behind a slew of major big-brand releases, including Halston, Tommy Bahama, Givenchy, and Estee Lauder. Encouraging that such talent could be found in a delightful and cheap feminine.

kaejuntun

Like many others I bought this fragrance at fraction of the original cost. At first spray I wasn't overly impressed. It smelled just like the bottle looks - clean, clear, fresh, aquatic. I was unable to determine one note from another, and it really didn't develop much. No sweet, syrupy fruits (just a light touch of citrus to add some character) or loud, harsh flowers(the floral notes are mild and slightly sweet) - a simple, straighforward clean scent.

HOWEVER - of any fragrance of this type (aquatic, fresh) this has BY FAR the best lasting power. It seriously lasted 12+ hours on my skin, surviving a shower and everything. I was amazed. The sillage wasn't huge at any point during that time, but it was just enough for me to get a faint hint of it at points throughout the day (and this was just one spray on each wrist). I really did enjoy wearing it. It never overpowered my senses, and I never got sick of smelling it.

Would I have paid full price for this fragrance? No, most likely not. But for the price I paid I am extremely satisfied!

This is a very light perfume you can not smell it unless you stand right next to the person wearing it. On the right person it can be worn all year round. Unfortunately it did not work well with my chemistry and almost smelled like pee (white musk component). Because of these 2 factors I gave it away.

Skin type: oily
Office safe: yes
Potency: Light (6 or more sprays are necessary)
Projection: sits close to the skin
Longetivity: 2 hrs in winter, 5 hrs+ in summer
Timing: Spring / Summer
Packaging: 6/10 the bottle is a bit plain the lid is made of plastic
Price: $19 CND for 50ml / 1.69 oz at Winners

Will I Repurchase: NO

Disclaimer: my experience may be different from your experience based on my skin type, the season, and my personal tastes

Update: It projects much better in hot weather and doesn't smell so musky depending on one's body chemistry (observations since I gave it away to my sister).

I am a lover of aqua floral scents and this perfume description fitted it perfectly, including all the positive comments on here which sounds pretty good to the ears. I've never tested this. Unfortunately, Shi and Jewel perfume do not work on me. Shi smell synthetic and quite strong in an unpleasant way, just simply soapy smell.
I bought both bottles of Shi and Jewel base on positive comments on here, the truth is Jewel is slightly better, a bit lighter and more bearable than Shi. However, there is something about these perfumes that create a nausea effect, i personally dislike both. I am so sorry to Mr Sung as i don't often write negative review. On a positive note, I do like the bottles and the designs are chic.

i used to love this scent, maybe because a boy bought it for me long ago. but there is just something i am not completely in to. have a 1 oz bottle to swap please message me.

Trinidella

I am on my second bottle. I love this scent. The heaviness is mindblowing and the longevity is impressive. The packaging is imaginative. It appears simple but its captivating.

My mother just brought this back from New York for me. I was excited simply because I couldn't find it where I live. Apparently AS fragrances are discontinued??? Anyway, the bottle is so beautiful, though at first spray I wasn't impressed. It was nice, just not amazing. As the day went on it began to show its lovely face more clearly and powerfully. It greeted me as I moved around the room like a hug from a friend. This is a cheerful fragrance! Light, but not weak. It has lasting power that is really impressive. I could even smell it on my wrists after 12 hours of work, and a shower! I like the dry down better than the top notes. The scent has a familiarity to it. It's as if Calyx, Noa, Este Lauders Pleasures, and Elizabeth Ardens Green Tea got together and made a baby! (Though Shi is lighter and more watery than any of these fragrances).

All in all I'd have to give this perfume a 7/10, (an extra point for the bottle design and longevity of wear). Perhaps if it had a slightly less familiar twist to it I would give it an 8/10. I love each of the perfumes it reminds me of, but sometimes I'm just looking for a fragrance to step outside of the box. To stand alone in its uniqueness. Though I must say, this perfume is easy to wear and non-offensive. Great for office wear, a casual day out, or by the pool. It's clean and happy. I also would say this could easily be worn by any age woman. As it is fresh, I find it's great for spring and summer. If you can get your hands on a bottle I would suggest you try it. AS fragrances aren't that expensive. I'm curious about the pure perfume extract, and would love to know where I might find it. Please let me know if you do! Thanks! :)

I agree with the reviewer who stated this is a "well-behaved" perfume. I can't even find the fruit, it's straight-up watery floral to me. I love it for office wear. Its sillage is just right on me - enough for people to get a light whiff on an elevator but not overpowering. I combine it with the body lotion and it lasts all day. I wouldn't wear it for a night on the town but it's a lovely workday scent.

damewolf13

This is such a light sweet floral, with just a touch of citrus. It is a very clean aroma, no heaviness at all. It starts out very aquatic, and light with the water lily and lotus blossom, with the slightest whiff of tangerine, and then sweetens up just a bit with the touch of orange blossom, fig leaf, and frangipani, and finally drys to a touch of birch and just a hint of musk.
This is one of my favorite acquatic florals of all time.

nananessa

I almost bought this today at TJ Maxx without first smelling it, thinking since Sung is one my very faves that I would probably like this one, too. I found a bottle that had been opened so I smelled it just before my purchase & so glad I did!

This one was just disappointing to me at my initial sniff. There was something in the "fruity" quality that I didn't like for myself. So I put it back on the shelf.

Maybe I need to reconsider...
