Terre d'Hermès by Hermès is a Woody Spicy fragrance for men. Terre d'Hermès was launched in 2006. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Ellena. Top notes are Orange and Grapefruit; middle notes are Pepper, Pelargonium and Flint; base notes are Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli and Benzoin. This perfume is the winner of award FiFi Award Fragrance Of The Year Men`s Luxe 2007.

Terre d’Hermès: conceived in 2006 by Jean-Claude Ellena, Terre d’Hermès is a metaphor for materials, a matrix that speaks of territory as well as matter, earth, and roots. This vertically structured scent is based on an alchemy of wood, the scent first introduces the gaity of orange, the bitterness of grapefruit and the vivacity of pepper and of fresh spices. This “vegetality” flirts with the mineral effect of flint and the coarseness of vetiver. Dominated by cedar, the fragrance goes deeper with the sweetness of resins and the impalpable voluptuousness of benzoin.

A wonderful fragrance for men above 30. I've heard people claim it's good for a man who wants to radiate power or wealth or whatever but I personally feel it's the exact opposite - it's a smell that tells of warmth, comfort and a bit of mischief.

I had this recommended when searching for something that'll scratch the itch for my old time favourite Tokyo by Kenzo. It didn't. Far from it. It's earthy with a hint of citrus. It's refreshing and comfortable. It's also the best way to attract compliments. I use it when going out with my favourite people and not wanting to wear my daily preference. Not something I'd wear at home for myself.

Terre d'Hermès is all about that earthy, natural vibe, but with a modern twist to it. Like you just went on a hike through the woods, but then stopped at a museum exhibit with all these cool mineral and rock displays.

When you first spray it on, you get hit with that fresh, zingy orange note that just brightens everything up. But that citrus is accompanied by this crisp, slightly bitter grapefruit note that adds a little sharpness and edge.

As Terre d'Hermès dries down, those earthy, woody notes start coming through. The vetiver has this rooty, almost damp quality to it, like you're walking on a forest trail after a light rain. And the cedar just amps up that woody, natural vibe even more. But there's this cool almost mineralic undertone going on too.

Overall, Terre d'Hermès is a fragrance that makes you feel grounded and perfect for the guy who loves to get out and explore, but also appreciates the finer things in life.

It has this way of making you feel refreshed, invigorated, and in harmony with the world around you. It's an earthy, modern masterpiece that just works.

Ah, this is the perfume my aunt would always purchase for my dad.. good god I hated it. It smells like slightly rotted oranges. Definitely not a safe blind buy.

There are already tons of reviews and not much that can be added that hasn't already been said. Excellent masculine fragrance that's not sweet. Very versatile - can be used anytime of the year, day or night. Performance is good for an EDT and enhanced in hot weather. If you have dry skin in winter, apply a moisturizer before applying TdH to enhance performance. With the tendency for syrupy sweet fragrances, a young guy can still rock TdH if he uses it for more formal occasions or if he wants to buck the trend anytime. That said, TdH isn't crowd pleasing but can garner positive complements because it isn't the typical sugary fragrance. TdH won't win any projection battle against the popular elixirs.

The smell of TdH invokes the following scenario for me. It's a warm, sunny day in late August in the mid-80's after a week or more of no rain. You are hiking the Big Carp River trail in the Porkies, having started at Lake of the Clouds. You reach the meadows and the smell - very dry conifer needles and bark, end of summer - is what TdH smells like.

As far as EDT vs EDP, they are very similar scents and it's best to sample both to find out which you'd prefer. To my nose, the EDP is a bit woodier and the citrus is a bit juicer; maybe it's a bit rounder. The EDP does not invoke the scenario described above. I suggest not choosing the EDP based solely on expected better performance but to choose based on the scent you prefer. The EDP's performance is not light years ahead of the EDT. For me, I prefer the EDT. Mr. Ellena hit one out of the ballpark with TdH.

Update: My error - TdH Parfum is a Parfum, not an EDP as mentioned throughout this review. Given that, it's performance as a Parfum is disappointing since it's not much better than this EDT.

Purchased this after sitting on the fence for years. It’s worth the hype but not retail price worthy. It took 10 wearings for me to even understand the profile and notes, the opening is overpowering and may choke at times( especially peak summer mornings). It’s still relevant and will work best on 40+.
It’s still relevant and grabs attention in the first couple of hours. Dry down is excellent and stays a long time.

I literally got a new bottle today and sprayed some on my skin. Lasts roughly all day

Not sure what y'all are talking about?

I second the comment below, these reformulations are BULLSHIT

hamid666

king of the weakest fragrances ...................take the word " weak" , multiply that by 10 and you get the performance of Terre de'Hermes..............10 times weaker than weak fragrances out there.........waste of money.................gone in less than an hour !

I have a sample and I sprayed it on myself, not realizing it was *designed* for men. to me, it's more unisex than a lot of the perfumes I've tried that are labeled unisex. I can see this on a woman a lot easier than I can see a woman wearing say, Oud Wood (though I personally wear that and I don't care! haha). Anywho, I would say this is a unisex perfume that is masculine leaning. To my nose, it is very peppery. That was the very first thing I picked up on spray and it's still prevalent on the dry down. I am someone who cannot STAND pepper... if you're not a fan of pepper, don't buy this!! Which, I do still buy perfumes that have a pepper note, if it's relatively discreet... this is not discreet at all, again to MY Nose (and I may be sensitive to it because I really don't enjoy it), it smells like I'm smelling a jar of peppercorns and then getting a small wiff of my fragrance on the way. That said, I get the feeling that that isn't how most people would perceive the smell. Again, I am just hyper-aware of that pepper note.

You know, to ME... again, I do not claim to have a trained nose in any way... but to me, it smells an awful lot like oud wood, but peppery. It smells like a peppery oud wood!! With a little bit of citrus. But I am definitely getting that DNA, personally.

Anywho, I actually think it's a pretty mild fragrance overall.. definitely not overpowering, but maybe wouldn't overspray. I don't love it, I probably wouldn't compliment a man or woman if I smelled them wearing it, but I also wouldn't mind it. If you love it, go for it!! Not a favorite for me.

Bingo30

The opening seems a bit nondescript with its citrus and woods. As it dries, however, the metallic vetiver comes forwards and gives a bit more of a signature backbone.

Smells mature and masculine. Thinking of a kind, stern, and disgustingly rich uncle. It is likable but not too friendly!

It may come across a bit more “generic” than you would expect, and that is because this is one of those benchmark fragrances that informs the taste of perfumers who follow in Terre’s (and Ellena’s) footsteps.

Undoubtedly a solid fragrance but I am not spurred to purchase a full bottle at the moment.

rsnero680

I sprayed this on a blotter at my local Sephora (along with a few others) and forgot what I had sprayed on the blotter immediately after walking out of the store.
For me, it just didn't make any big impression, it's just kinda boring and generic. Also very weak, I could barely smell it from the test strip after about half an hour. Wouldn't recommend it.

lux_n0ctis

[Scent]
Quite verstile, inoffensive yet certanly not for everyone, hence definitely signature worthy.
The scent is quite unique at least for non-enthusiasts like me, not sweet, not soapy, not blue-ish like many other popular fragrances.
The scent reminds me of hot spring with bathtub made from Hinoki (a Japanese cypress) for some reason.
Very relaxing and somehow smells natural, certainly not the type of scent that screams like "Look at me ! I'm wearing fragrance !"
I suppose that's why I've got fascinated and decided to it use as signature scent (I'm living in a country where wearing a fragrance can often be frowned at.).

[Longevity]
I have a terrible skin that butchers longevity of fragrances (usually EdTs can be expected to last 2-3 hours max on my skin.)
But Terre d'Hermes lasts at least 5 hours even on my skin, which is quite impressive for an EdT.
I wonder how long this would last if it's on people with good skin.
By the way, I bought this in the year of 2024, so it's definitely not vintage stuff.

[Sillage]
I can't comment on its sillage.
I asked some friends to wear this for sillage test, but they didn't let me since they don't like fragrances.

[Occasion]
Any time except for scorching heat summer. But even then, it wouldn't be a problem to wear this if you're in temperature-controlled environment.

[Age Group]
I don't think this scent dictates any age groups.
I even think Bleu de Chanel is actually more difficult to wear in terms of age group, since it smells relatively fragrance-like scent compared to Terre d'Hermes, if that makes any sense...

[Price]
Relly good I suppose. It's ¥17k.
Where I live, as comarison, some popular fragrances (EdT-concentration) are priced at ¥22k such as Prada l'homme, Maison Margiela Replica series, etc, which is kind of werid to me.

axelsniff86

Lovely, mature and unique scent. Citrusy long lasting. Year around use and office safe. Signature worthy.

Iron Chicken

I have been using the EDT since around 2008 and stopped buying it about 2 years ago, only because I was a bit boed of it. I just purchased a 100ml EDT with 100ml aftershave lotion. What I have really noticed today after applying about 6 sprays of EDT and a good splash of lotion post shave is that it simply vanished by lunch time. This was certainly not the same perfume I wore two years ago, something has been taken out of it for sure. I would often apply just 4-5 sprays and could still smell this stuff on me going to bed same day,

What a complete disaster, What have they done?

I won't be re purchasing this ever purely on the grounds they have messed with the formulation and made it like wussy juice.

emanali443322t

This fragrance is a masterpiece of composition. Despite the bold grapefruit citrus opening and heart, the notes blend harmoniously, maintaining balance throughout its wear on your skin.

What sets this scent apart is the unique combination of flint and pelargonium. These notes form the core of its distinctive "bitter wet metal" accord, creating an earthy, mineral-like essence that captivates the senses.

While I find it truly special, I can see why it may not be everyone's cup of tea. The dominant flinty pelargonium heart might be off-putting to some, especially if over-applied.

For me, it evokes the image of a tweed blazer—decidedly masculine, energizing, and exuding strength and class. I love the confidence it instills in me.

I highly recommend it if you're drawn to these vibes.

I had to write a review about this one. First of all, I am in my 20s and this easily became my favourite fragrance after no more than a couple of wears. This seems a rather simple scent at first sniff, but ultimately it is a quite complex one. It has vetiver, but it is very uplifting and quite "sterile" vetiver, unlike encre noire, which makes it dark, wet and dirty. The invigorating citruses dominate the opening, and as it unveils its complexity, it gets more spicy and peppery, but smoother than the zingy opening. It is refined and classy, though still very modern, and can be worn at any age from 20 and up easily. For me this is a masterpiece from Jean-Claude Ellena, that I am going to wear, till it finally gets discontinued.

Now, the performance is great, with a longevity of 8 hours, and a moderate projection, creating an intoxicating sillage. It is not loud but creates a beautiful scent bubble around you. It can be worn at work settings, outdoors and at more formal circumstances also or even for a date. It is mostly a spring masterpiece for me, but can be perfectly pulled off on fall and summer too, suited just for daywear of course.

Even if you don't like classy vetiver scents, anyone should smell it at least once in their life, it is an experience.
If you love it, enjoy!
S.A.

Good God, what a wonderful gift. I am a woman and I love wearing this fresh, green and classy gem. Only for the warm and gentle hearted.

Enough has been written about this stuff that anything I add will surely be superfluous, so I'll keep this brief: Somehow, 18 years after its release, Terre d'Hermès still smells like nothing else. You either love it or you don't, and if you do, you've probably been wearing it for years and have no intention of stopping (join the club, we have donuts in the next room). But even if you hate it, you can't deny its uniqueness, its clarity, and its bold coloring. Terre d'Hermès has been in my olfactory stable for so long - at work, at play, in the background during major moments of my life - that smelling it "on the street" is like greeting an old friend, one who made an impression on me years ago and who's lost none of his charm. Breaking Terre d'Hermès down into its component accords (bergamot, geranium, vetiver, cedar, flint, you know the drill) does exactly zero justice to the experience of wearing it. It's an aura as much as a scent. Easygoing yet utterly distinctive; outdoorsy but refined; sparkle and sunshine with a dashing grin. A one of a kind, once-in-a-generation touchstone. Even if you never wear it, you need to smell it.

----

P.S. If the eau de toilette is too sharp and spiky for you with all that bracing bergamot and deafening gunpowder, check out Terre d'Hermès Parfum, released in 2009 and surely at least partially responsible for the glut of “parfum” concentrations marketed to men in the years since. There is still that woody-orange freshness and contrasting flint, but the parfum lowers the volume and bolsters the drydown with stronger resins, oakmoss, cedar, and leather. It leans harder into classic masculine chypre territory, ironically a breath of fresh air in these times of nuclear woody ambers and burnt-sugar salvos. The lasting power is excellent but it stays close to the skin, so you needn’t be afraid of gassing anyone out. I think I prefer the brighter and slightly more energetic EdT, but not by much.

P.P.S. Ignore the “only for OLDER MATURE MEN” comments from clueless fragbros radiating the latest Aventus knockoff. Terre d'Hermès was released in 2006, not the goddamn Gilded Age. I was happily wearing it at 25, along with millions of other young men, and it's still one of my diehard favorites. If it works for you, it works really well, and your age has nothing to do with it. Own that shit.

P.P.P.S. Been wearing it regularly since 2011 and it's always smelled the same to me. But when it comes to the topic of reformulations, I put little stock in unreliable, misty-eyed memories of perfumes past. Your mileage may vary.

P.P.P.P.S. Never trust anyone who says "I'll keep this brief".

dank1

One of my favorite scents of all time but it appears reformulation has completely destroyed this masterpiece. I'm lucky if I get more than 1.5 hours of longevity on 10+ sprays. Honestly, this is a war crime considering how iconic this fragrance is.

Ham23

This is an artistic impression.
Not for everyone though, don't blind buy this, but it's a show of talent and art for us who enjoy the scent profile.
Don't buy this is you're still young.

smerfragrance

Sure the opening notes smell a bit like old man to me — Orange and pepper and flint — but that’s not a bad thing... It's got a timeless feel to it. Peppery citrus and woodsy. Leathery. Downright sexy as it starts to dry down... CLEAN. Refreshing. Manly. This is a WINNER. Could be worn for all occasions.

**** Comparable to Dior Homme just in their soapy sexy vibes.

kmakmakma

Simply beautiful. Among my all-time favourites.

bartca89

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about this one..... I like the fact that it's fresh and natural; strikes me as a great casual summertime scent – it smells like a field in summer. Quite nice. It does have a kind of timeless, classic vibe.

But.... it smells like a field. And as many commenters have noted, this doesn't exactly seem like a seductive sex bomb, or nose-catching compliment magnet. I find it pleasant, but it's not universally pleasing... so is this even the best office fragrance? I don't know. I like this fragrance well enough, but I struggle to find a situation where it seems like the best choice... or where some other fragrance doesn't seem like a better choice.

I do like it, though....

StunningSamuel

Mature, classy, flawless. Quality is still on point. Lovely and unique mixture of citrus, fresh spices, and woods. Earthy, but no too much. Every man owes himself to try this. Lasts and projects well, can be dressed up and down, not overrated at all!

Brett_Sinclair

I blind bought Terre d'Hermes because of the countless glowing reviews and the fact that the listed notes made it look like my ideal scent. The reviews on this site alone make it appear to be an absolute masterpiece, the best men's fragrance on the market, an all-time classic.
Unfortunately for me, I just can't agree.
The opening is just all orange. I love orange but this is a bitter, harsh orange that smells more like a cleaning product than a designer fragrance. Then the other notes hit and it becomes musty, smoky and very, very mature. And by mature I mean it smells like an old man.
Picture the scene. It's the 1950s, you're a Literature student at Oxford university who has been called in to see one of your professors in his private office. The room is bursting at the seams with old books and stacks of hand written papers. The professor is a man approaching 60 with a scruffy white beard and is wearing a tweed jacked over a shirt, tie and v-necked sweater. Tobacco smoke hangs heavily in the air from the pipe he has just extinguished in order to snack on an orange. Only he's making a bit of a mess of it and the juice is getting everywhere. And that is what Terre d'Hermes smells like. Smoky, musty, orangey, old man. It's the smell of a retired man who wants to smell good but doesn't care about attracting ladies anymore. This is what Sherlock Holmes would wear.
Massively overrated. It's not an unpleasant smell but it's not something I would want to smell like and anyone under 50 who wears this is going to age themselves horribly.

cawico7

Why on Earth do people think this is a "middle-aged businessman" fragrance?..
I recommended this to a friend who is a big fan of vetiver, and it smells great on him. Now it's his favorite, and he wears it everywhere. He's in his early 30s. I absolutely cannot imagine this frag being age-specific in any way.
It's the opposite actually, I think it's so versatile that you can safely blind-buy and gift this, as long as you, or the person you're giving this to, like citruses and vetiver at least to some degree, of course.

Super fresh but with a classy edge. Very prominent orange and grapefruit peel notes. Lots and lots of vetiver, so I think it will be great for summer. Not musty at all, but it gets softer and woodier on drydown. My friend also said the "wet asphalt" note is super distinct to him, but I don't smell it at all.

IMO, forget about the age stereotype and absolutely do get this if you like the listed notes, it's the best one of its kind.

Messidor

Terre has so many flacons and I don't know which one I tested in Sephora tonight cuz there were so many bottles similar to each other (well mainly because my eyesight is ... and I was in a hurry). I got bitter grapefruit and much earthy vetiver and/or patchouli, and some pepper. (And is there flint?! I dunno. I'd never smelled flint before) So I think it's this original version.

I had leaarned many negative opinions about this perfume before this test, and I had developed a firm bias of how nightclub-y it can be. After the test I know they indeed have some bias. The perfume is (rather) mature and confident. In my opinion it has a narrow range of target customers (that's partially why some feel it's cocky and cheesy and even gaudy when non-targeted guys wear it).

A nice sent for spring, fall and winter, albeit it's not for everyone.

docelder

This is not for everyone. The top is great. As the orange develops, it somehow goes away from a very pleasant orange into the realm of that one orange at the bottom of the bag that has gone soft on the inside and rotten. The Eau Vetiver is better, and yet it is still something that isn't for everyone. I have a small bottle of TDH that I have had for years. Every time I try it, it's the same. Try this first, not just the top, but let it develop and dry down. It's popular with some people, I get that. But it's a hard no for me. The Eau Vetiver version dries down very nice, but has the more harsh top with a hard vetiver. Neither of these IMO is a work safe scent. TDH isn't a date scent either. If there is a such a thing as a panty dropper, this would the chastity belt fragrance. It's more for fragrance enthusiasts that want something edgy. If you want or need edgy. Just don't blind but this one.

Mr. V3

I was hesitant purchasing this one just because all the videos/reviews on it talked about it being an acquired taste. After purchasing a sample I immediately went and bought a bottle! I honestly love the orange in the beginning and think it plays perfectly with the rainy day woodsy scent in the back. As it all comes together it just sparkles as a perfect everyday scent. It doesn’t smell chemically, generic or done before…. It’s unique and stands out in a good way👍👍

stonkz

Old fashioned in a bottle! love it

Vorpal

Initially, Terre d'Hermès by Hermès left me hesitant. The prominent orange opening evoked the sensation of wearing orange juice. Yet, there was an undeniable allure to it. Through continued exploration, I came to appreciate its sophistication and versatility.

As the fragrance develops, pleasing earthy and vetiver undertones emerge, tempering the initial citrus burst. I've found that this one pairs exceptionally well with wearing a polo, infusing a hint of maturity and sophistication into a (business) casual ensemble. Terre d'Hermès EDT stands out to me as the most versatile option, particularly suitable for the transitional seasons of autumn and spring, and on rainy days.

While Terre d'Hermès hasn't quite reached the "wow" factor for me, and perhaps it never will, it has earned me compliments and secured a solid place in my collection. The performance reliably lasts for around half a day (6 hours). I recommend snagging this one on a discount.

Jorjeyo Armstrongi

If you like this fragrance already then I recommend the aftershave by the same. I don’t even shave. I just apply a small amount to my beard.

I also feel like it has a slightly warmer and creamier vibe while still giving you that dynamic vetiver scent. I like this over the fragrance spray, because it I can use this as a temporary beard scent on my face, while freeing my body/clothing for other fragrances.

mikebardenpiano

If you don't like this one, I would understand. I also did not like it at first, and am rather surprised I came around to it. It's kind of weird honestly, with that dirty undertone. But I've adjusted since and have found this to be a highly enjoyable wear for office and casual use.

Cabooter

Makes me feel like I’m in Don Drapers’ office while he’s making an Old Fashioned.

Smells very fresh, clean and citrusy but not in a soapy, dull or forgettable way like some other “freshies” I have tested. It has personality. An orange peel or grapefruit, peppery and also woody. It’s not offensive and a good work fragrance.

I was looking for a nice summer fragrance and I think this will be a great choice. But I imagine it would also work well in spring and fall. Lasts very long, getting whiffs of it the whole day, and after work still present with only 3 sprays. I would love to get a full bottle of this very soon.

tylerss20

The flinty, earthy orange profile seems to be polarizing. Personally I enjoy it, but I get the strong reactions that people have. To me this is a three season fragrance, with summer being the exception. The strong "dirty" note could be a little pungent on a hot day.

Fbaghli90

العطر جميل جدا لكن الاداء في الفترة الاخيرة تغير و هناك العديد من البدائل نفس رصاصي فتان

lucascfragrance

if i am being honest, I do not like this fragrance at all. I got a sample of it and sprayed it on paper and thought to myself, wow its so earthy, I hate it and then I game it a second chance on my skin and still continued to be overpoweringly earthy which doesnt match with my nose. I would recommend for those who enjoy earthy and soily fragrances but for others, no way. the opening is decent to me but in the dry down the soil scent becomes more prevalent.

lukebritton

Class, class, class. Elegant and sharp, like a navy suit in a bottle. 11/10

SniffDogg

The orange blended with grapefruit and pepper makes sure the opening is not too sweet of an orange. I love that the pepper is subtle and done just right. It's not a death by pepper and ambroxan bomb like Sauvage or Dylan Blue. The drydown is really what smells good from the cedar, vetiver, and patchouli. It is overall more of a bitter smell though. If you want something similar but sweeter, try Versace Eros Flame.

I would recommended trying a sample of Terre d'Hermes first before buying a bottle. I bought a sample of it and while I liked the smell, decided it wasn't a cologne I wanted to wear and I won't be buying a bottle.

root

Woody, earthy, bitter. Has petroleum vibe. From the description it doesn't seem like it would be good, hell, when I'm reading this back I'm going "it does not appeal to me", but somehow it just works. Quite an addicting smell.
Great for office, or occasions requiring dressing up.
Best worn with suit. It could also work with jeans and white shirt and baseball cap..so versatile.
Very unique smell.

Juru_Zen

I have a 2022 batch with horrible performance. Such a shame. Beautiful scent for 45 minutes though. It smells natural and earthy with the flint, orange, pepper mix.

JangJun

I dig into fragrance world because of this perfume scent!

shanegrace

Unfortunately it lasts about 3 minutes on my skin and then disappears. From the quick whiff I do get it seems appropriate for a sophisticated spring day.
I do get compliments. Just wish I could enjoy it myself too! :)

LetUsSpray

This is a man "blind buys" fragrance, man hates fragrance, man puts fragrance away, man tries again, man likes fragrance, man tries a few more times, man loves fragrance story... Seriously, it took a looong time for this one to grow on me as the dirty orange/vetiver/pepper notes were just too much at the start. I honestly wasn't sure what the hell I was smelling, but through the early confusion and occasional light headache I began to see (er... smell) what it was all about... it's earthy, mature, utterly unique and I'm glad I stuck with it. 10/10

Hulk#1

I have a recent batch. Although I think the opening is beautifully crafted, the longevity on my skin just isn't there at all. I will use my bottle but won't repurchase the EDT. I have the Eau Givree flanker which is a fresher scent profile and lasts longer. I would recommend a different flanker than the EDT if getting through a long work day is high on your priority list.

ChrisWilly24

Love this for my work day scent. Pleasant, not over-bearing and a lively citrus vetiver to get you through the day. Curious to see how this performs in the summer months. Timeless.

masonreed

I think this one really changed things for me. And really? Is there any other designer house more timeless than Hermes? I've been wearing TDH now for nearly a decade and although I've changed as a person, moved multiple cities and countries and changed tastes I still love it. It's kinda fresh, kinda mineralic, its got just a great pure clean wood to it. Clean, classy, always dependable and it really shows different facets in a unique way in the drydown. That sparkly note of flint really cleans up the composition without making it smell too juvenile. It's really masterfully made and opened my eyes up to the way scent can tell a story and reveal itself differently over time. It carries with it layers of dimension that you jus't don't find in most other designer fragrance. I see myself wearing this one for the indeterminable future, always in rotation.

Douggie T-Ray

Good for the mature man, but not in any way stodgy. It smells very modern. Very versatile and masculine, can be worn in any situation from casual to dressed up. Just a warning that this is not for warmer days, as it can become cloying and a bit headache inducing in the summer heat where it will radiate strongly off your body. I find that it smells best when its being subtle - you catch some very nice whiffs well into the drydown, which is warm, stylish and leans sweet without resorting to the obvious base note of Amber, (like just about every cool weather scent does). If anyone around you doesn't like this, the scent will fill you with the confidence to tell them exactly where to jump.

[9/10] I first encountered this scent 15 years ago when a new colleague wore it everyday. It was the first and only time I actually liked a masculine perfume so much that I would use it as my room fragrance (too masculine for me to wear on my person). I already knew how lasting this perfume would be because my ex-colleague would leave traces of which indoor venues he had been to by the scent left behind - lingering for hours even after the person had long left the room. So it does work well as a room fragrance with a few spritzes here and there. The woody dry down lasts for at least 24 hours with good sillage. This is indeed a masterpiece (never had a fragrance interest me this much) and this would be my signature on person scent if I had wanted to emit a masculine aura.

zavi

I've come across this scent many times throughout my lifetime. Typically I notice it on older gentlemen, but this is so versatile I could easily envision a younger man rocking this if he wanted to be taken more seriously.

Personally I'm not the biggest fan of Hermes, their fragrances just never quite captivate me, but I can see why this is a timeless classic. It's versatile, lasts fairly long, doesn't cost an arm & a leg.

This is a no brainer if you are looking for a daily fragrance that is more grown up and sophisticated.

Kimoland

These days, I am addicted and in love with this beautiful, luxurious, masculine fragrance that soothes the soul.but i need a better performance version from it,please support!

TheTrackEnthusiast

Stunning, masculine, sharp, and powerful. A timeless classic that can’t be matched. To wear this you have to be refined, serious, and classy. Fragrance masterpiece

jesko.echoes

This fragrance is something you either love or hate, which makes me lean towards not buying it. I really enjoy Terre d'Hermès however, the rest of my family hated it when I asked them about it. The reason I would not be inclined to purchase it is because I would be very concerned about having a lot of people dislike how I smell. Some will love it, some will hate it, and it adds a sense of mystery to the fragrance, however it is something I do not necessarily like gambling with, especially at work.

Seductioninblack

Is it even possible to come up with a better masculine scent? Where do we go from here

crisppy1

Smells like eating an orange peel, great fragrance

-Specs-

I’m late to the party because I for the most part avoid designer fragrances and typically go for the niche stuff. That being said Hermes, is just brilliant. It’s elegance and sophistication in a bottle. It’s citrus and woody. Done so well and just screams class. I typically have to dress business casual to business formal for work. I’m a therapist and I feel this fragrance goes well with my vibe. I don’t think this would be a fragrance for a teenager. This fragrance is a mature one.

Featherinster

A beautiful, fresh grapefruit fragrance. Fantastic everyday wear, for any time of the year, every day of the week. 9/10.

episimos kavatzomenos

This is definately a more mature and possibly great office scent. Citrusy on the opening, spicier and smoother dry down. To me the opening actually reminded me of certain turkish delights i used to eat as a child.

OwenFragrance56

Smells to old for me imo

bljczmln

A classy, simple yet interesting scent. Been said a thousand time but it's really a photorealistic orange. Very spicy, the pepper is very is notecable in my opinion. The woody and earthy vetiver makes it deep and mature. This two elements makes such a good twist on a citrusy fragrance and to think this was released in 2006, almost 2 decades ago is wild, if someone told me it was released this year i would't be surprised. Timeless classic. Work very well in almost every situation. Although it's versatile, and can be worn all year around, in high heat this could irritate some because of the spices and the "dry" scent profile, so i would avoid it during the summer or just spray less, but Eau Givree works better in the summer anyways so if you interested try that. The longevity is solid, 6-7 hours, nothing too crazy but leaves a decent scent cloud and trail for 2 hours.

Hp1992

Great smelling fragrance, classy, versatile good for office, casual days, dates etc. only let down is performance which is around 4 -6 hours with low to medium sillage. 7/10

smacleod7117

I absolutely adore this fragrance. I purchased a 1ml sample and was immediately in love. It’s a perfect balance of wood, citrus and earth. Very masculine but not in a sporty way. I would make this my signature fragrance but I very quickly found the performance to be very lacking with the EDT. Within an hour or so it dries down to basically a skin fragrance with hardly any projection or sillage. Could be my skin, but unfortunately I will likely not purchase the whole bottle because of this.

Fragaria

I like this a lot and I’m pretty sure no one will agree but this smells quite a bit like Coriandre to me!

Top tier fragrance

Sauvage77

A good fragrance, suitable for older men.It stays very lowkey but still its good for a everyday scent.

عطر مزعج، قشور البرتقال أو البرتقال مر وحاد وحار بشكل منفر.
غير مناسب للمسجد والاجتماعات العائلية، راح تزعج اللي بجنبك.

This is basically my signature scent, or atleast I've worn this the most. I adore this fragrance. I totally understand why some don't like it. I'm in the camp of calling this is a modern masterpiece. I almost struggle to write this review because words can not explain how much I love this fragrance. All I can say is this fragrance is perfect for my taste. Orange is my favorite citrus note. Vetiver is also a favorite note of mine. The "dirty orange fragrance" fits this perfectly. All seasons, anytime, anyplace I'll wear this. I have heard reformulation rumors. My bottle is a 2021 batch and I consistently get 8-10 hours with 3-4 sprays. If it has been reformulated I'll move on to the parfum once my bottle is finished. 10/10.

Khushi95

I love this scent on my husband. It’s so fresh and uplifting. This works really well in spring and summer and can also be worn during daytime in the fall. Its so effortlessly clean and masculine at the same time. Its simple yet signature scent worthy.

beatrixrussell

Sexy and woodsy while still being very bright and clean. I got this for my roommate and it smells great, very classy but not at all douchey or pretentious.

Oberon Bungle

This may not be for everyone but for me and many others it’s an absolute masterpiece. Refreshing and masculine, assertive yet controlled. Signature-worthy for anyone, especially me!

d_retrograde

In a saturated landscape of pleasant yet forgettable citrus-woody fragrances, this unique and timeless masterpiece by Ellena stands apart. Confidence, determination and class in a bottle -- Terre d'Hermès should be regarded as one of the definitive masculine DNAs of our generation.

Interestingly enough, my girlfriend has complimented this more than any other scent I own (despite it being one of the more "serious" and not super mass-appealing of the bunch). For as much as she tolerates me and my hobby, I am still proud of her good taste 😂 Take it from her, this smells manly in the best kind of way.

narzissus

Absolutely adore this fragrance. Smells great on ANY GENDER. A good friend of mine tried this and it smelled INCREDIBLE on her. Anyone who is into earthy/fresh scents should try this. It’s a masterpiece of a scent, though I must say it seems always better when smelled on another person/not oneself, heard this from a few people, too. As someone who mostly buys perfumes for my own pleasure this is a bit of a sad occurrence. Might just have to gift this to my next partner or a close friend.

RayHIRSCH

Ngl got kinda thrown off by the opening, but that dry down is fantastic! Definitely my signature summer fragrance

nu12

This is clean, woody orange, commanding, masculine scent. It's a classic for a reason.

Glennard

As far as the fragrance itself, this one is an out of the park home run. The way that orange interacts with the pepper and vetiver is top notch. All backed up by that earthy flint. It's fresh, bold, versatile and original. I've never smelled anything quite like it. A true modern classic. Performance is a mixed bag, though. Longevity could probably be a little better for a price like that.

delancy

A classic for a good reason.

The real beauty of this fragrance lies in the scent trail it leaves in the air. The wafts of this you get in the air around you is where the magic is. I feel like people who dislike this potentially get too fixated on the opening and what it smells like up close. Trust me when I say this: the initial "on skin" smell is not the same smell other people around you will smell when you wear this. They are two completely different things: the mid and dry down are SO different from the opening and are heavenly in the air compared to what you are smelling on your own skin.

This really is one of those fragrances that smells magical from other people's vantages around you and smells very different compared to what you can smell on your skin.

Terre d'Hermes sits in the pantheon of all time great masculine designer fragrances alongside Platinum Egoiste, Rive Gauche Pour Homme, Eau Sauvage, Drakkar Noir, Fahrenheit, Kouros, Antaeus, Polo Green, etc.

Someone below compared this to Aventus in terms of "vibe". This is not bloody Aventus! Aventus is the Versace Eros of the business world, the "Miami real estate agent in an off the rack suit" of male fragrances. Syrupy sweet, fruity nonsense in a bottle. Crass with no sophistication or class. Terre d'Hermes is the complete opposite of Aventus.

Terre d'Hermes is unabashedly masculine and was born at a time when men still wanted to smell like men. Unlike today's insipid, syrupy sweet, and ambroxan blue trends driven by the TikTok fragrance influencer crowd.

Orange rind/peel, pepper, vetiver, and cedar form a strong base, which is inflected by touches of floral (geranium), light resinous sweetness (benzoin), and a fantastic mineral tang (flint).

The end result: Masculine, self-assured confidence. Spray this on after a shave, don a crisp button-up shirt, put your suit on, and walk out your front door knowing you smell like the definition of the word success. You are a man who has his shit together—a leader.

I only wear this to work, and there's no way I would wear it on a date. But on that note, the right kind of women do like the smell of this. The same kind of women who prefer Platinum Egoiste on a male over some "I sprayed myself with essence of pancake syrup" Le Male Elixir type crap.

Caveat: I have never owned a pre-2015 bottle (before they deleted certain ingredients). However, I can definitely attest that the latest bottles of this (my current bottle is from 2022) have been severely watered down compared to my pre-2020 bottles. Poor longevity is a very real problem with this fragrance in 2024; it's not just people doing the usual fragrantica "bad longevity" meme. They've reformulated this guy quite a bit, and it unfortunately shows.

For my own tastes, I'd still take a fougere or barbershop fragrance over this any day, and in terms of other work fragrances, I find I get much more mileage out of TF Grey Vetiver. But when I feel like mixing things up, TDH is always there to throw into the office rotation.

9/10

schnoorzoky

I've never smelled another fragrance like it. It reminds me of soil, grandfather's shed, a museum, outdoor adventure... It isn't one that I would wear everyday and I'm maybe still a little young for it but I can't wait to buy a bottle for when the situation suits Terre D'Hermes.

Peter The Fragrance Lover

When I try to describe Terre d'Hermes EDT, these words come to mind: Luxury, success, money, wealth, old-school masculinity, CEO-leadership, versatility, and practicality, and totally adventurous and charismatic, a lá Indiana Jones.

Terre d'Hermes EDT is really solid, well-made and user-friendly. It's probably one of the best citrus-woodsy fragrances currently available on the market. Evidently, Roja Dove was so enamored with it that he launched Roja Dove Oligarch, which is supposedly based on Terre d'Hermes.

Due to Terre d'Hermes' wearability, it can be worn all four seasons, day and night, for very formal, formal, semi-formal, and informal events. It is fresh and yet has stronger, heavier, and deeper notes that give Terre d'Hermes more body and texture, such as flint, vetiver, and cedar

Terre d'Hermes smells like a mature and successful businessman or a CEO that has managed to get his life together, and enjoys the fruits of his hard labor, and the extravagant life of luxury and privilege which is a result of his hard and persistent work.

As far as the scent goes, it's basically a dark orangy citrus scent profile, with woodsy (cedar), green (vetiver) and flinty undertones. Terre d'Hermes evokes both the smell of the earth and the sky - just like Jean-Claude Ellena intended it to. The scent is very elegant, polished, classy, refined, and buttery smooth.

This is certainly one of the most versatile men's fragrances out there; it glows with virility, luxury, class, elegance, and a CEO vibe. I might even go as far as saying that Terre d'Hermes EDT smells of aristocracy, royalty, and the socio-economic elite, meaning millionaires and billionaires.

What can I say about Terre d'Hermes EDT that hasn't already been said? It's one of the greatest men's fragrances ever made; it's one of the most butch, virile, and masculine fragrances ever made; it's one of the most luxurious, opulent, rich, dandified, gentlemanly, classy, elegant, smooth, refined, and aristocratic fragrances ever made; and it might even be the ultimate CEO fragrance ever made. Terre d'Hermes EDT might even rival Hermes Bel Ami as the ultimate CEO fragrance for men.

Terre d'Hermes EDT radiates class, wealth, power, luxury, the high life, gravitas, and authority. The scent definitely sends the conscious or subconscious message that you are a man of authority and that you are the top honcho or the top dog.

In my opinion, there is nothing in this fragrance that is even remotely romantic or sensual. There's nothing wrong with that; it's merely my observation. This is just luxury, class, refined elegance, aristocracy, royalty, virility, and raw power—both in terms of scent profile, sillage, projection, and longevity—which on my skin reaches probably 7–10 hours.

Despite its deceptively simple scent profile, it's a masterfully done creation, and it's an utterly enjoyable fragrance to wear. Terre d'Hermes EDT might very well be one of my top 5 designer fragrances. Terre d'Hermes EDT is a titan amongst fragrances, and a timeless and ageless masterpiece.

Final score: 10/10!

Alexnderthegreat

Only thing I want to say about this fragrance is, if you have a careful nose, you realize that the citruses are layering down and giving their own spesific note by the time. Orange evolves to orange zest, kumquat, lemon, bergamot and everything.

Invasionbg

This fragrance and that dna in general is super fantastical. I love it from the opening through the dry down. Masterpiece 👌

Gastambide007

Terre d’Hermès EDT. I have 2020 (batch 02002) batch code engraved, 100ml. I have also another bottle from 2015 (5CCAQ) 500ml sprayable bottle, batch code printed in black. There is a big difference, the 2015 bottle is powerfull and long lasting compared to the 2015 batch, also the juice is more darker (almost same color as the pure parfum) and more denser.
About the formulation, the is a difference. They removed : hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (which is the Lyral) listed in the 2015 formula. A colourless liquid, synthetic compound of Lilly of the valley.
They banned it in europe since it cause skin allergy. And for sure, TDH is main France.
So they removed it for safety but they ruined TDH.
If you want the 2015 formula, get the 500ml bottle EDT, you can find it for 300$

thegapac

I have got this from youtube review. Firstly, I have bought a sample of it online and find out that the smell is so amazing. Unlike many designer fragrance, it does not have piercing smell on my nose. It is smooth and smell good from start to end. To me, it smell like orange. Quite sweet but not too much.
In terms of longetivity, I started using it from 9am to 8pm. I still smell it clearly on my wrist. But the degree of sillage drop gradually to skin level as time pass.

Personally, it is appealing smell without piercing too much on nose. Price is a bit expensive, but you can find more reasonable price at reliable retail online resellers.

fsvr54

Fantastic scent, performance on newer batches is TRASH. I would not buy another bottle to be honest, despite loving it.

Behindthefog

Smells great, but performance is crap, for me. Maybe 3 to 4 hours if I'm extremely lucky

Kurly118

Absolutely love this scent, but so disappointed with the longevity. I had tried a tester first and it lasted a good 8-10 hours so I was all in and purchased a full bottle, but it's barely a skin scent after only 1 hour. I'm now giving it the full beans with 12+ sprays and it might stretch to 3 hours at best - ridiculous!! I purchased the 50ml bottle and reckon it will be gone within a month. As much as I love the scent, I really can't recommend based on my own experience.

gianfrancoceppi

Simply a masterpiece, this smells like a cloudy afternoon after the rain in the 2000s being a mature, classy and serious man entering in his luxurious house. The composition it’s so well blended that makes it so versatile in terms of use (anytime except extreme heat) and always you gonna give that classy vibe with this, I don’t think that smells specifically like a old man but it has that classy masculine vibe (kinda old money), if you’re confident wearing this and you combine it with a good style you definitely nailed it even being an 18y/o guy. Some people say that it has a bit synthetic smell probably because of the ISO E super but leaving that out everything else feels so high quality for being a designer fragrance, and even I get some leathery smell idk why but it makes so refined. About the performance on my skin I don’t have problems with it, easily 8 hours with good projection the first 2 with 4 sprays.

SmellGood24/7

Opening smells like your fingers after peeling an orange. Maybe not as sharp, a bit rounder but still strong and zesty. Brings me to an orange farm in Italy a beautiful spring evening. It's a cold yet lively scent. Earthy and metallic as it dries down which is cool but gets tiresome after a few hours. Regardless, this is a masterpiece that stands out. Performs well too, five sprays and you're good.

lucydoherty

Very fresh and kind of sandy in a way! 7/10

Faust9

One of the best summer fragrances. Mature and wealthy scent but if you mature enough everbody can pull this off. 7 hours and moderate projection. Really good scent but I suggest pure parfum version.

Teahupoo

I've tested numerous recent batches of this fragrance and all of them are a lot weaker than the older batches I've worn in the past. So I think it's safe to say this has been heavily reformulated

Isomies

Something happened either me or the new editions, but today's Edt version is nothing like it used to be earlier. I hardly if any can smell the vetiver that used to come so smooth when dry down earlier editions, on 2010 and so...or maybe Im became a noseblind for the Terres. Since Au Vivre it's hard to get any reaction on me, I recall this juice was, but no more

Nawaf.669

I don’t know why many people rate it here a moderate longevity??!! It lasts easily 10+ hours, can any one explain to me why ?? New batch still great by the way

ahsif

i may not always use but i always come back to it and once i start using it again, it becomes a daily for a month or so , it has that sort of a pull.
i think this DNA will work even after 30 more years.

i am on a my second bottle of edt, and may be 3rd or 4th bottle of the parfum, but to me they smell better together..
8 sprays of the EDT and 4 of the Parfum ;) // and the otherway round for closer encounters!

MagicTurtle9

This is a fresh, sweet and citrus fragrance which is made more sophisticated by the pepper note. I love it but it doesn't have good projection and nobody notices it unless I spray it 9 times.

ermallion

This is more of a first impression since I'm basing this review on a paper swatch and two consecutive days of wearing the it.

I wanted a fragrance that evokes the great outdoors; big sky, cattle in the field of high grasses, forests on a sunny day — that type of thing. Got a recommendation for Terre d'Hermes. It's great, but it's not it. I don't get the nature and gardening overtones at all. It evokes sixties space age imagery to me: Eero Aarnio's the Ball Chair, Barbarella movie or how I imagine the great outdoors on Mars smells like. Even the bottle looks like a window with a view of the Martian sky.

It opens with orange and grapefruit notes very loud and I get a sort of an alcoholic unpleasant punch similar to Jaguar Classic Black. Luckily, this sharpness dissipates quickly and you're left with mostly orange in top which fades slowly over half an hour or so. I get pepper as soon as citruses step back a little and it slowly blends with the bottom end over the next few hours. Sweet smelling base, a characteristic of the fragrance throughout its' whole life, stays for more than a day on the paper swatch and more than half a day on skin. Its' sillage is arm length for 6 hours or so, after which it goes to skin scent.

Terre d'Hermes is sweet and sexy, old-school but futuristic at the same time. Manly and calm, dark but not somber. I find it quite versatile and I can see it worn by 25 and older who can appreciate its' uniqueness. It's got unisex qualities to me and I think a confident woman with eccentric taste can pull it off to great effect. I don't see it as a daytime perfume and, ideally, I'd wear it to a cafe or a bar in the afternoon or an evening in the city centre. I don't find it great for clubbing and I find it too sweet and dark for offices and sunny mornings.

Someone said it's 50% Encre Noire and 50% Eau Sauvage and that's about right. It's a great fragrance and I think it's worth its' cost. Would recommend.

ttsib

Had this as a signature scent since I was in high school. It will always be part of my collection as it brings back so many memories. Always used it on first dates even when my collection grew and today that I have 60+ frags, it is still my pick for special occasions. Always preferred the EDT over the EDP and other flankers

cuadever

Fresh, citrus, spicy, woody, unique, sexy, masculine, and versatile. A designer that smells like niche. Performance is at least 7 hours. Best worn in the day and also performs well at the evening. Smelled this the first time and immediately fell in love. Now I have the full bottle and I plan to make it my official signature scent.

Stinkynuts

sophisticated, confident, and manly... fresh citrus and vetiver fade but still remain thru dry down, where the awesome peppery/spicy/flinty/powdery cedar really starts shining thru... definitely a bit more mature and subdued compared to a lot of stuff out there, but still a great compliment getter for me. people regularly tell me i smell great or ask what im wearing when i wear it. just happened a few mins ago with a pretty cashier girl at the clothing store. which is why i thought to leave a review ha.

i have both the EDT and the Parfum. the Parfum has less citrus and zest but also a lot less projection than EDT, though i do think it smells a bit classier/more mature side by side, though they both do in general, not old man, just probably 30+ or so, probably younger if youre the classy ivy leage type perhaps.. i have a huge bottle of the EDT so i wear it a lot, its also the one that gets more compliments, most likely due to projection.

vox populi

i enjoy this one. its scents ring true with the orange and grapefruit hitting.then the pepper /benzoin/cedar come out when it settles.this is a very enjoyable nice citrus, slightly woody cologne.it is priced great, this one if your into citrus i do not think you would go wrong on a blind buy.. it is worth is cost. would i buy again ? yes

FloralBread

I love how unique this fragrance is, it has some interesting contrasts and feels like a modern form of masculinity - bold with a hidden sweetness under the layers. I do get a sense of fruit and gasoline from it sometimes, it definitely makes me laugh sometimes on how strange it is, but still works.

However, I can only wear this for myself at home or on walks.

This has given other people headaches (family, colleagues, and two strangers on transit), and I've only received comments on how it's too intense and they don't like it. I did put three sprays on the first few times. But even after I adjusted to just one spritz cloud I walk through, it still upsets others if they have anything to say. Unfortunately it's a victim to it's own power - if you can smell this on yourself, everyone else in the room can as well.

It is safe to say people who are bored with generic or standard fragrances will appreciate the boldness of this one. As for the rest of the world, it seems to be too out there for enjoyment.

As much as I enjoy this one, I will not recommend it to anyone.

ItsDenisHmm

I can't really tell if I like it or not. It's like a mix of oranges and lemon tea, bringing back nostalgic vibes. It's definitely not something teenagers would go crazy for. It's more mature and refined, perfect for someone who appreciates a subtle yet distinct scent.

FaizalPermana666

Signature scent worthy🤩
Ps. Not for boys‼️

sh83

Very interesting fragrance. Smells like an early morning tee-time with your Dad, snacking on orange slices, the aroma of freshly exposed earth revealed by the multiple divots he may or may not have just added along the recently manicured fairways.

Dipietro

The perfect fragrance for men who are confident and have nothing to prove.

Heliotrope72

Rating: 😲🤕
Do I like it: Nah
Who it is: the elegantly dressed, academic, polite bearded man in a beige coat that you pass by on the bus, kindly letting you through while you get a whiff of his wonderful scent
Smells I get: mandarine, citrus, cedar
Meyer's Briggs type: ISTJ, ISTP

Oh my! What a lovely little number.
Starts off as a rich, natural feeling citrus and orange that does not pull overly window cleaner on a damp bed of cedar.
Should be a pretty easy wear, fun and not demanding, but on me it just reads as fizzy oranges that fade to a fizzy cleaner solution lemon scent.
I'll steer clear as it gives me a headache. Hard to scrub off.

Nawaf.669

Great long- lasting fragrance 👍🏻

BackToTheEighties

I have tested Terre d'Hermes several times since its introduction, but always found it unpleasant on my skin and therefore always ignored it. I tested it again a few months ago and now I suddenly loved it. But really really loved it! I do not get it what has changed. My skin? My nose? Immediately I bought the EDT and EDP and now it is my favorite scent. I wish I had made this turnover years ago!

Shaafora

Masterpiece!!!
I fell luxurious with this.

spoi

Used to not like this fragrance as it smelt like those essential oils you could buy for cheap. However, it has grown on me so much I purchased 100ml. The citrus punch in the opening, followed by the elegant woodiness in the later stages makes it feel much like a bright, daytime version of Bleu De Chanel. I wear this on warmer days, when I feel like dressing a little smarter than I normally do

Sa4

Works very well in fall, spring but you can pull this off in winter also
Very masculine and unique
Not for blind buy, this is stuff for real man very masculine and many people likes it (this is not crown pleasing and stuff this is timeless masterpiece)
Performance 7/10
Longevity 8/10
Projection 6/10
Versatility 9/10
Complimenting factor 9/10
Price 6,5/10 (for 200ML.bottle for 100ML bottle 5/10)

stonkz

I just got a tester of this along with my montblanc explorer. They smell surprisingly similar but Terre de Hermes is much much better and more refined. its a nice fresh, manly, woody & citrus fragrance. very versatile 8/10 from me

Gloog

This is not an easy scent to put into words. If I were forced to pick, I would describe it as a dirty orange in a classy way. Aside from winter, it's surprisingly versatile.

vo2maxx

Natural, bitter, and earthy orange with a peppery woody base, so clean classy and masculine. Performance also far exceeded my expectations, projects strongly and lasts 8 hours for me.

thefirstpigeon

What I imagine a 50% Eau Sauvage, 50% Encre Noire mix to smell like. Except cleaner than Encre Noire, and the citrus is more orange-y where Eau Sauvage's is more lemon-y. Very sophisticated; not an acquired taste per se because it's not 'challenging' at any stage, but highly idiosyncratic. A true gem.

ToneZone

Automnal weather outside, someone in a cedar shed grinding black pepper on freshly cut oranges. Masterpiece. Signature worthy.

KokuBombasi

emil1724

my first ever fragrance, so im definitely biased. but this is so good. still now 15 year later nothing smells like this, and people are still suprised by it. smells like soil in the best way possible, pepper, and orange. truly a gentlemans fragrance

the only downside is the performance of these newer batches (after 2018-2019). so weak its gone within the hour. edp is not as good.

Freakmoney

This smells damn good.

It has a strong pepper note, so if you like spicy, you’ll love this. It’s like… spicy earth. Sounds weird but think of a pleasant smelling meadow, then make it really spicy. It’s fairly unique, and it’s sexy.

StacyJames

Better late than never. Wouldn’t have appreciated this as a 22 year old in 2007. Now at 38 I’m very happy to have progressed in my fragrance journey to realize how great this is. At a time when most new fragrances are very sweet and cookie cutter, this stands out. Really loving all the fragrances Hermes has to offer. If you don’t have this in your rotation, just get it. If you don’t want to smell like everyone else then I recommend give it a try!

BalkanFragranceLover

Ripe, slightly fermenting orange, resinous, balsamic masterpice and the magnum opus of the master perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena. At the very top of Designer perfumery for a reason.

dayonee

Nothing that hasn't been said already. Freshly picked orange that has been rolling in the dirt. Earthy and dirty in a very good way. Masculine. Great office scent. Signature worthy. Not really for the younger crowd IMO.

justin123

Beautiful captivating aroma. Maybe a little mature for me, but I like wearing it around the house just to smell it.

Ed Wardian

Terre d’Hermès is a mineral beat of citrus zest and cedarwood that remains poignant and cross-sectional amongst the prim of the universe. Simply a transparent, earthy, ethereal accord, highlighted by a synthetic flint note that adds a wet soiled edge to the chartreuse emanating, one that is dressed up by a floral note of pelargonium and its rosy green facet and primarily vetiver, shaking its rump in the exit stage with other woody humps in the base... Truly, an Ellena benchmark that continues to resonate and stands far above the rest in this young century... A fine standard indeed!

My first impression of this was that it wasn’t anything special and lacked character. But when it dried down, damn. One of the best fresh woody masculine fragrances I’ve come across. Vibrant orange/ grapefruit with fresh spicy notes on a base of cedar and vetiver. Class. Perfect all-round signature scent for the men out there who like fresh woody fragrances like Dior Homme EDT or Bleu de Chanel.

Ichor

Great professional fragrance. Magical smell with earthy vetiver and peppery citrus. You can't really put your nose on it but it just smells nice. People describe it as piney, I get reminded of a carved desk.
I will always prefer this over Bleu de Chanel or Acqua Di Gio. You need to like Earthy and Citrus smells though.
9/10 - timeless.

Fjed

I can see why this is not recommended for younger audiences. It is slightly bitter orange and perfect for office areas

MarieLlwyd

@oceansoflorewi12 Perfectly described. I couldn’t find the right analogy

rescent58

this was a terrific perfume when released, but after all reformulations it is now a big departure from what it used to be. I think I still rather like the TdH but its enveloping dry mineralic smokiness, its longevity - are all gone. Its rather leaning grassy and watery these days.

EDIT: recently realized the iso e super (the most prominent aromachemical in the original TdH), is no longer listed AT ALL as the note here on the scent's fragrantica page. Did Hermès remove iso e super completely from the formulation ?

FragheadMo

Terre d'Hermes is a classic. Mature but still easy to like. JcE created something beautiful with that orange-pepper-vetiver combination.

9/10

Let_it_be

Orange is Hermes signature, you can smell hint of it in all their fragrances and this one is no exception.

Terre is supposed to smell like the earth, but I think it is a smoky earth smell - it's a good fragrance for smokers, it can masked the smell of cigarette well. Vetiver is the key note for the base here with the slight hint of orange and smokiness - it's elegant and perhaps Hermes best men's fragrance.

Mila Schön Uomo is VERY similar to Terre, it's a variant with a Sandalwood base. I think most people have never tried it, it's very obscure.

shasta

Beautiful. Smells like Molinard.

Fuder95

Its a gem! timeless .... I have a lot of frags but when it comes to Terre D'hermes I just feel like its something different, not niche but absolutely niche quality and sophistication.... sooooooooooooo gooooodddd, its my signature scent ! will be forever !

Seb1979

It is a good winter cold rain scent.

twoism

Blind bought the EDT after sampling the EDP. Luckily I got a couple sample vials when I bought the EDT... The Parfum is much richer, with a swirling, mysterious air that the bright, more straightforward EDT lacks. My real gripe, however, is performance. It's a really nice fragrance but it simply vanishes in no time at all. 8 sprays from a sample vial on neck, arms shirt and chest. An hour later my wife buried her nose in my chest and arm and said she could detect nothing. Glad I didn't open the 100ml. I'll be returning it and going back to the drawing board for a professional, masculine office fragrance. I think I'll try Eau Sauvage EDP next ..

Some people say they get great performance so all I can say is try for yourself.

AnanZ

When people mention “Fragrance” what usually comes to my mind is something floral, sweet, fresh. Something that smells good

This fragrance smells like an old closet filled with cardboard boxes and damp soil. Not something I would wear to impress people (that is not the reason I wear perfume anyways)

HOWEVER it’s oddly addictive… it doesn’t smell bad nor does it smell dirty. I would often spray it when I’m at home just to have something my nose could enjoy

I like it, makes me feel like an old man that likes to read old books about gardening 5/10

oceansoflorewi

Bitter orange peel oil (not the juice), black peppercorn, and sour brass bullets. What a masterpiece! So simple yet makes such a timeless statement.

I'm imagining a Titanic worker in 1912 smelling like this while constructing the ship. Metal hull scent as the ship is nailed together ding, ding, ding. A sweaty dirty guy with peppery metallic skin peeling an orange on his lunch break.

This is how a fruity dirty metallic smell should be done. Not that scratchy fake aluminum ambroxan smell thats literally in everything now. Yuck!

If you dont like this and its dry and freezing outside - youre using it in the wrong climate. This is a warm weather scent. Without warmth the fragrance fantasy doesnt deliver really. Doesnt really work in winter; too cold and dry like winter itself just absorbs into the abyss.

Nouman310

Excellent fresh smell for summer, work, casual wearing

Shaafora

The appropriate description for this perfume, from my point of view, is that it is the king of perfumes, or more accurately, the timeless perfume.
A perfume that is suitable for every time, every place, every hour, and every situation. Literally the most versatile perfume I have ever seen in my life.

Ebuparfume

Its a perfect winter perfume, it has an earthy scent after the rain.

Smellybutgood

If you find yourself on the fence about Terre d'Hermès, let me offer some guidance.

Before dismissing it based on reviews that label it as unremarkable, consider this crucial aspect: TDH is a fragrance that demands time to reveal its true essence. Picture it like a finely aged wine or a symphony reaching its crescendo; It unfolds gradually, requiring your patience and attention to fully appreciate its brilliance.

Initially, I too had reservations – perceiving it as harsh and 'old mannish. Yet, as my fragrance palate matured, so did my understanding and admiration for Terre d'Hermès. It emerged as a timeless masterpiece, boasting beauty, elegance, and class that surpasses first impressions.

Now, the reason TDH is often considered a fragrance for a mature audience lies in its sophisticated composition and nuanced subtleties. Unlike some immediately gratifying scents, TDH is crafted with a complexity that resonates more profoundly with individuals who have cultivated a refined appreciation for fragrances.

However, it's essential to note that maturity in this context doesn't necessarily refer to age but rather to a seasoned olfactory palate. So if you're hesitant due to its association with maturity, consider it an invitation to explore a fragrance that rewards patience and a discerning nose with unparalleled elegance. Don't let preconceptions deter you; instead, let Terre d'Hermès be a journey of discovery into the captivating world of refined fragrances.

ajwadmurshed01

Elegant and unique. Very versatile.

Piggy41510

I'm extremely late on experienceing this fragrance!! I tested TDH on my skin and I must say I really love this fragrance. To my nose this is very elegant, mature, artistic and intriguing fragrance. And the citrus in this fragrance is well blended and done nicely! Hermes did excellent job in crafting this great fragrance and this will be in my collection this holiday season. 10/10 for me👍🏾.

chipchippahson

Really disliked the opening on this initially. Bear with me - I got images of an executive engaging in S&M with his secretary after a boardroom meeting, or maybe a floor manager at Caldor in a cheap suit or something. But boy did it grow on me quickly. The opening is still a little harsh but once it settles down its just vetiver, peppery gunpowder, and citrus peel. Definitely some shaved cedar in there as well. Straightforward and very nice. Screams spring/summer to me, a little too cold and mineralic for the other half of the year. I don't get "dirty orange" but it is definitely very mineraly, the vetiver doesn't feel particularly dirty to me. If you don't like vetiver, you probably won't like this.

Edit: originally had a paragraph here about how my 2022 bottle had poor longevity compared to a decant I got previously. While I got 3-4 hours initially, after letting it macerate a few months this is now performing around the expected 8 hour window. Not a compliment puller, but I do enjoy it.

marti312

Orange peppery goodness with a woody base, great scent. 4/5.

kitkatya

when u peel an orange and smush it in pepper and drop it in dry dirt in the woods … it’s nice! really disliked it on paper but enjoying it on my skin. not for me though. more cool than warm

bungulburt

Got a mini bottle of this one and tried it out for a few days. Honestly, I don't understand the hype about this one.

The opening reminds me of my dad, but not in a good way. He used to drink Metamucil every night for his constipation. It was orange flavored. It smelled like this cologne. After that, there's so much cedar scent to this fragrance that all I could think about was my overweight father sitting in a sauna drinking Metamucil.

The dry down removes the orange, and leaves the cedar musk. It's not bad, but really not for me.

Pgtips82

This is pure orange, they nailed it. I get a tiny bit of wood. But this is reviewed as a winter scent. I will keep this for summer I think.

rene.saller

I bought my husband a travel sprayer decant on a friend's recommendation, and he loves it. Before I gave it to him, I sprayed the back of one hand, and it reminded me of the way Eau Sauvage used to smell to me back in the mid-80s, when I fell in love with it in my late teens. This has more of a juicy citrus opening and a pronounced flinty mineral tang, which I really like. In fact, I was planning on keeping this to wear myself if he didn't like it--but no danger of that happening! I daresay it has great longevity because I washed my hand a few minutes ago, with soap and hot water, and I can still faintly smell the gorgeous woody base. Fortunately, it doesn't clash with my current perfume, which has a strong cedar note.

TommyAkira

A masterpiece perfume that I can't live without

thenothingness

The smell of old money. Eternal classic and masterfully blended.

krisscent

This is a must own in every man’s collection!
Classy, sophisticated and long lasting. A true beacon of masculinity!

joshuacs

As someone who doesn't usually like citrus notes, this scent makes me really appreciate them more. It smells both dry and fresh in a way. Very versatile. Very classy, and can be dressed up or down. Not sure if sampling it has swayed me into buying a full bottle (maybe I'll check out the flankers) but I understand the hype now.

Also very affordable compared to other designer frags. Longevity on my skin was about 7-8 hours. A safe choice!

Edit: I think this is one of the best fragrances within this DNA of designer woodsy men's fragrances. Again, it has a really nice mature, sophisticated edge that I've come to really appreciate. I'm considering getting a bottle since they go for a fairly good price on some discounters.

khungpao

Really good woody citrus fragrance. Mature, masculine, classy gentleman and smells expensive. Good to have in my collection.
I'm really enjoying this, maybe I'm fond of vetiver, will look into it more.

Cascayd

I am slightly allergic to something in Terre d'Hermès Hermès. Not sure what exactly but it made my nose start to block up. Even if I liked the scent, which I do not, I would not be ble to wear it.

NckBlossom

Couldn’t agree more with the below review. What a masterpiece fragrance which decorated mine and my father’s shelf (physical and virtual) for ages…it wouldn’t get old. I’m removing it now from my top 5 for the same reason. I even bought a 100ml refill which has nothing to do with the original version…a sad disappointment shadow of its former shelf. I even bought the aftershave balm. Big mistake (smells like sweat). Won’t be buying it again..I’m opting towards “memo Paris African leather” which I reviewed before and it’s the closest thing I have smelled to this day to TdH.

DrewDrew

I've tried so many samples of this lately from so many different places, and all of them might as well be lightly scented water. I've smelled this in the past, and it was amazing and strong. Now they've totally neutered it. If you've got an older bottle, I'm sure it's amazing, but the newest formulation is garbage. And this being one of my top 5 favorite fragrances of all time, I am extremely disappointed.

tdsmelbourne

This is an absolute masterpiece.

Bitter Orange with earthen vetiver and flint. This is a mature, classy & masculine scent, the performance for an EDT is excellent, I get a solid 6-7 hours of wear with moderate projection.

Definitely a must have fragrance.

Perfumer007

Earthy orange vitamins tablets scent with a woody green metallic synthetic iso e superish twist, very simple vibe

Olivi

I tried this in the shop on my wrist but it literally gave me nausea and it's unfortunately very long lasting. When I went back home I tried to washed it out but it was still there. Looking on the bright side, thanks to this cologne, I discovered that I hate vetiver. Probably that's why I also didn't like givenchy gentleman society (even though it's a very different cologne comparing to this).

Slowpainhauer

For vetiver lovers, go for TDH eau intense Vetiver which is significantly better and richer. This one is a bit heavy on Iso E.

Opato

Initial notes:
Lemon pith, grapefruit pith, wet shiste, cement, astringent woody resin.

Mid:
The citrus still lacks depth but rounds off a little bit. Otherwise there is little development.

Base:
Cedar woodiness lasts for quite some time, but with a somewhat astringent quality.

Performance:
Brilliant performance, rather perfect in terms of sillage, longevity and projection.

Value:
Very decent value, an EDT that performs like an EDP, great availablility

Meta:
This fragrance is SUPPOSED to smell earthy and dirty, and it certainly does. It really has lots of mineral qualities.

Thoughts:
After using it for 18 months, I can say that Terre d'Hermes is an excellent, top quality fragrance. Yet it has never drawn one single compliment and I always found it a bit too much for me although I like it better in hot weather. It is a perfect example of how personal chemistry plays a huge role in what you appreciate. You see, to me it is too astringent and dry. Now that description might make give you certain ideas about my general preferences, but please hang on a second: I am no sweet tooth WHATSOEVER. Anything in Le Male range, Homme Intense, Homme Ideal etc. are far, far too sweet for me. I prefer dry fragrances. Eau Sauvage EDP I do love, but that is the limit of sweetness that I can take, so I use it maximum three days in a row. After that, I have had enough cake for a while.

And yet the TdH has one or several ingredients turning the profile into something too astringent, sharp and petrochemical for me. Where people hail the grapefruit/orange I only get the pith, no hints of essential oils, no fruitiness at all. Where people mention flint I get shiste and cement, not the warmer minerality of flint that I love. Where people get vetiver, I get dry hay. The funny thing is I do love TdH Eau intense vetiver. I would describe the EIV version a lot more in line with how other people describe original TdH...

Gilbertotejera

My signature scent. Using it for more than ten years. Never ceases to amaze me. It smells mature, elegant, well dressed….smells like success.

Landmvrks

Got this as a gift from my vetiver loving girlfriend, who loves it, probably more than I do.

I couldn't stand the opening to begin with, for some reason it really reminded me of a pub toilet at 02 after the urinal cakes started doing their job. Smelled like piss, dirt and some citrus detergent, added some sweet food that was thrown up in a corner. I hated it.

However, the drydown was intriguing to me, I really love woodsy fragrances, especially cedar - and that shines through fairly well in the later hours. The vetiver is good quality, it's smokey and overtaking.

I love it now, can't get enough of it. It's a great scent and I even started not hating the opening, even if it's far from my favorite.

Clearly noticed, however, that it is polarizing. Some people, like many reviews state, do actually find it repulsive. Even the drydown. I have never really received any great compliments at work for it. Important part is that my gf loves it :-)

Absolutely not a blind buy. Very special scent. Quality and polarization :-)

FreshNBussin

Literally can't get enough of this scent when I spray it on. At first it was so unique and different that I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but the more I used it, the more I fell in love. It's a very ''in your face'' kind of scent and it might be overwhelming for some but you never know until you smell it. A very sharp fresh pleasant earthy aroma. Still fairly new to the fragrance world so my description of the smell probably didn't do it justice but in my humble opinion, it's one of those scents that everyone should smell at least once just for the experience. For me, it's a favorite now. Possibly fighting for signature position. Definitely going to be one of my winter staples for years to come.

VecentMourner1

This is one of the most vivid fragrances in my collection, and is easily one of the best fragrances out there. To me it smells like a carpenter's wood shed surrounded by fresh red clay up in the Appalachian mountains. When I say vivid. I mean VIVID. This fragrance is a masterpiece of woody, vetiver, and earthy fresh scents. Absolutely wonderful work here, and I'd highly, HIGHLY recommend it.

AUyliong

My signature. I love this so much. I hope Hermès never phases this out because I will be without a personal scent. I first came across this in my mid 20's - an impulse buy at a duty free on the way to Hong Kong and instantly fell in love. I don't buy the critique this is for 30yr olds and up. I rocked it hard. My only crit is that it was an EDT so it never lasted or projected as much as I wanted. Good thing Hermès has since remedied that with multiple EDP flankers.

poirot303

I LOVE this scent. It's unique and fresh while also musky. The trouble is, it gives me an instant headache EVERY TIME. I would wear this scent on repeat if I could handle the way it initially hits my senses. This is one I keep coming back to each year to try again...and again...and again. <3

Flameseeker

I love this in the spring and summer. Orange, kind of mineralic, earthy, peppery. Fresh and earthy, not sweet. The kind of smell I'd associate with a grove of orange trees after a summer shower where you smell the wet earth and rocks, with some spiciness thrown in.

Cinnabomb

I'm really pleased I didn't blind-buy Terre d'Hermès. It has a razor-sharp, pine resin note that is almost painful to my nose and headache-inducing. It seems well put together, but beware!
Performance is very good.

Rvbert00

One of my favorite fragrances. It reminds me of being in a California or Italian citrus orchard with the wind blowing, and you smell the citrus in Wood in the background and the warm sunshine in summer. Very masculine and appealing fragrance with good lasting strength.

Kyotokko

I recently tried Terre d'Hermes, and the scent is absolutely intoxicating. It's surprisingly light and airy, with a smoothbalance of earthy, floral tones and a hint of spice. This unique fragrance is the perfect seduction and reminds me of making love to a tall, strong, dark Frenchman. The combination of earthy and floral scents make it sexy and mysterious - absolutely irresistible. The scent has excellent longevity and sillage, perfect for a night out or special occasion. Overall, Terre d'Hermes is a beautiful, romantic fragrance that will definitely have you feeling at your best.

Asca Naca

Terre d'Hermès took me by surprise. I had smelled it before while sampling, but it didn't stand out to me. I have a spreadsheet where I categorize all of my fragrances and I was really surprised to see that out of everything I had, Terre d'Hermès was ranked the highest by the public. I decided to give it a chance since it is loved by so many. Initially, I liked it but I didn't see why it was conceded a masterpiece by so many people. I gave it several wearings and somehow it quickly became a love for me. I've only had it for a few months and I've made a substantial dent in my bottle. I kind of neglected the rest of my collection. This is a fantastic scent that is very easy to wear and most people around you will like it. It's been the only fragrance of mine to garner comments from random people. Pretty good performance for what it is—lasts all day and has moderate projection. With how much you can find this for at discounters it is absolutely with a pick up.

Plachr

One thing I notice about a lot of fragrances that people describe as ‘completely versatile’ is that often that is only true if you are the kind who wear designer clothes on the weekend. So your Bleu de Chanel or Sauvage is always going to work.

But if you are like me and you like to wear hippy clothes and sandals those designer frags are not going to reflect your mood.

Terre d’Hermes literally goes anywhere. I actually always have a small travel atomiser of TDH in my pocket because I can always just use it for a quick freshen-up no matter what I’m wearing or what I’m doing. And unlike anything else I own I know I’ll always be glad I sprayed it. I never think ‘gee I wish I’d brought another fragrance’. Never a second thought.

Also did I mention it smells amazing?

bobsyerunckle

I love vetiver, and this scent is one of the reasons why. While over time I have leaned on other vetiver dominant scents more, TdH will always have a spot in my drawer. It does the whole" I'm a professional, every DAY professional" thing better than almost anything else out there. It's a scent that says " trust me, I know things". The only knocks against it are that it is a hard scent to gauge- one spray might be the most appropriate due to its sillage, but it's so intermittant and sheer that I am routinely beckoned to spray 4-6 times. Which then leads to me being very uncomfortable with the vetiver/cedar haze I've subjected anyone within 20ft of me to. There was also a 10 spray day, but let's not talk about that. The orange is definitely a specific, personal taste. The warmth of it is what is both interesting and a little off putting- yes its a citrus forward scent but I can't imagine wearing this in the humid, 88+ degree east coast summers I get here in NJ. Think orange syrup that isnt really sweet. The last knock it has is that it is a very popular scent. You will smell this if you work in a professional office. But I am not sure anyone else would care, since it smells so good.
Expect plenty of days where you think it had worn off only to be surprised 10 hrs later with a waft of warm vetiver and resins, one days where it smells like nothing but cedar and pepper. And other days where the orange can't fade soon enough to that super natural smelling vetiver note. It's pure class, but sometimes I like more consistency. 3 stars.

TunyaPe

I don't think it's overrated, but definitely overhyped. Based on my preference and skin, I love the part and texture of the vetiver. What I don't like is that the grapefruit isn't just an overture, but it also dominates the scent later on. I feel it's got a simplistic balance between sophistication / groundedness and youthfulness / invigoration. This is perhaps why it appeals to many people as it's quite a well-rounded fragrance, aesthetically.

CoolStoryAnh

timeless, classy, manly, confidence-radiating, and airy scent bubble.

feuer

Finally bought this classic, mainly to learn it, but defenitely I can wear that. I like the old school vibe it has. Well balanced fragrance with grapefruit, pepper, florals and woods, main focus being on vetiver. One should definitely first smell it before buying it. Especially younger folks.

faris_fauzee

A Masterpiece

stenchy

A magical fragrance of impossible contrasts.

Elegant yet rugged.
Classic yet contemporary.
Sharp yet delicate.

It has a stupefying sillage. Dare I say, the best of any frag I’ve ever tried. Unfortunately I don’t get great performance out of this one, but never mind because it’s that damn good. Orange, flint, and cedar (among other things) mingling into some ethereal form of sunshine floating through the air.

If you crave something that harks back to the yesteryear yet doesn’t feel out of place today, check this out.

Mhartsuch

BN#14134. I get notes of floor cleaner and bug spray, with undertones of old lady and rubbing alcohol. Was able to get a 3.4oz bottle at Costco for $63, a true steal. A real masterpiece 10/10

mario1

Terre D Hermes has been reformulated i recently tried again to bring back some memories of it didn’t love it as much as I used to it’s not as good as it used to be it keeps the same DNA but they took ingredients out from it the batches from 2006 to about 2012/2015 bottles were great it’s missing some notes used to be richer thicker more longevity little more fruiter more grapefruit/Orange. The current is more dirty/mandarin peel it’s a shame.

HorreurZizi

A timeless classic. Green scent. Woody.
Can be wear any season both day and night. Still i see it more as a fall and spring. But really works all the time. Mass appealing, no body can hate it. One of my most complimented.

I think Hermes is really underated lately, especially compared to some italian designer house like Versace or Giorgio Armani that i personally really don't like.

sclpl

@BourgeoisBanana what is u batch-code? I wanna buy a TDH, but i doubt like are his a live...
i have a 14221 batch at tester 2ml (2021 year), & he still alive. How much worse is it now, in 2022, 2023?

Cardelle

@Frai Grant and @BorgeoisBanana, read my comment below, if you wanna know what happened to this once quintessentially masculine beast of a scent, that has since had it's balls cut off.
Before the pandemic lockdown, this fragrance was a giant bull, wearing a high-fashion suit and tie; it was a stylish, refined, aggressive, loving, but untamed, INCREDIBLY masculine BEAST🐂
I bought a giant bottle, but can't bring myself to wear it anymore.
I REALLY don't like this lemony, flavoured-water, at all.

"Get out of my sight!! I can't even bear to look at you, after what you've done!!..."

BourgeoisBanana

I don’t know if it’s just my sample but this performs absolutely horrendously. It’s a huge overpowering burst of pepper, and that’s most that I get, and within half an hour it’s basically gone. This either has be because it’s a reformulation that just isn’t great, my sample isn’t great, or this doesn’t do well with my skin chemistry. Regardless, a full bottle is not in my future.

Frai Grant

Disappointed.

I bought a bottle of this about 8 years ago on holiday and found it an incredibly masculine and dare I say, sexy scent. Perfect for the warm summer evenings, night clubs and bars.

Having just got a new bottle I can’t believe how this has changed in that it is so subtle compared to the strength and masculinity it had before and also just disappears after an hour or so.

I have never found a fragrance so watered down from its previous form and I also don’t even really like it much this time around, compared to how much I loved it before. It has the same overall smell but something has changed for sure.

Bought from the Hermes website so have to presume this is the real thing and 140 euros I wish I hadn’t bothered spending. Lot of people on here saying it’s a classic but I’d say it was a classic before, now I think I would say it was almost a supermarket brand scent and not much more, which is a great shame.

reppon97

Love at first sniff. There's something special in Hermes' Terre'd line, and I can't explain it. They're unique but still mass appealing. Beautiful fresh, citrusy, earthy fragrance.

Hamza_Chaudry03

I'm a 20 years old fragrance enthusiast. Videos on Tiktok and YouTube both stated it is a rather mature fragrance (30-40yrs +). I sampled it, and purchased it as I adored it. Very different from my other scents, and in a good way! My father loves it equally, so we both get to enjoy it!

NoirMemoir

Got a sample of Terre D'Hermes EDT because i was curious how close is Montale Red Vetiver to it. They are virtually the same fragrance and i have a hard time understanding anyone claiming otherwise. Its obvious that Mr. Pierre Montale wanted to add this scent profile to his portofolio and he went all in and copied Hermes.

Wore it today, at summer's end, very early autumn, and oh my Lord!. I can't stress enough how much i love this scent profile. Owning Red Vetiver, i don't need this but its definetly in my top 3 scent DNA's. It screams autumn and spring, best fragrance for these two seasons for me but works perfectly well in summer too.

Beautiful whafts of vetiver and woods with a subtle touch of citrusy bitterness and some earthyness. I believe this scent DNA is a classic that will stand the test of time even 50 years from now.

jschmidty89

Simultaneously modern and timeless - this stuff is incredible.
Earthy, spicy, and slightly sweet.
I'd echo it may not be fitting for men under 30.

Walid fdoul

Man...this shit is so gooood....a truly timeless classic....
A masterpiece scent....
A manly perfume... definitely not for boys....

Nawaf.669

Best of the Besf. My #1 perfume , I bought this stuff over 10 times, the only perfume I preferred over creed aventus , love you very much , scent, longevity, sillage it’s great, very classy scent it’s like niche fragrances or maybe more, I really miss Jean Claude Ellena, good luck

Smellybutgood

I have been on a binge for the past 6 months to rediscover my signature fragrance along with my new top 5. Here is my experience with TDH.

I blind bought this due to the overwhelming acalades it receives. Consequently, the very first time my wife and I smelled this, we hated it.

To her this smelled like spice and earth, while my first reaction was “Gees, this smells like old people!”. But just like with any other fragrance, I didn’t judge the scent by the first sniff, so I gave it time.

After a few wearings, it definitely became one of my favorite fragrances and now my official signature fragrance.

Terre d’Hermes is definitely not for everyone. Strong vetiver scent with woody masculinity simply doesn’t match with personalities that are anything but strong.

Terre d’Hermes is for you if:
●You are above 30 years old or mature twenties
●You have no problem with what other people think of you
●You have high self-esteem
●You are naturally dominant persona
●You love dry and masculine scents

Of course, this isn’t the strict rule and variations may apply but one thing is sure – if you don’t have a strong masculine personality, this fragrance simply won’t match your output.

Also, bear in mind that Terre d’Hermes is not a huge compliment getter. Yes, women love it, but you won’t get that OMG moment the ladies usually get when smelling Dior Sauvage, YSL Y, or Bleu De Chanel etc.

But in the end, if you are a personality that can wear Terre d’Hermes, then you’re wearing it for yourself, not for others.

A 10/10 masterful classic that will live on for years.

My last review for TDH

Cardelle

This was much better from it's inception (06) to its death (2020).
I bought this two years ago after reformulation.
When I first started wearing it(in 08), it was a RICH, strong, peppery, slightly-woody, warm, slightly green, extremely-masculine scent.
When I worked in retail (09), on the men's fashion floor, the ladies from the fragrance floor used to give me fragrances to wear - to indirectly sell to customers.
When I'd wear this, women would walk past me and ask what aftershave I was wearing, because it was so POTENT.
That would not happen today, because this is lemony, orange water. It smells like a cocktail🍸
Just found out that the reason that their most iconic, FLAGSHIP fragrance is now a dud is BECAUSE Jean-Claude Ellena - Hermès in-house, master perfumer, departed the company in 2019, after serving 15 years.
That's why this stuff ain't the same!!...
I KNEW IT!!!...😳
I used to sell TONNES of this stuff, just by wearing it and customers smelling it on me as they walked by, because i look the part.
Hermès need to reformulate it, actually attempting to make it as it was, because this lemony, orange water cocktail🍸 ain't a patch on Jean-Claude's works😳

Odor Aeternitatis

It opens with a slight sweetness from orange and grapefruit. After a few minutes vetiver and woody notes will present, creating a very refined and well-balanced masculine fragrance. It has the right amount of sweetness, and woody and spicy notes. It has a bright yet radiating scent
It is a classic fragrance with a timeless meaning not something with old school vibe. This fragrance was created about 20 years ago but still has a modern and elegant scent. Wearing this fragrance you have the signature of Jean Claude Elen, a legendary master perfume of all time.

Very spicy opening of orange + earthy notes. Kinda gives me vibes of having just taken a shower in the woods with some kind of mineral well water. Really strong, almost harsh mineral + metallic notes thanks to the pepper + flint combo. I'm detecting some petrichorish elements too from all the earthiness going on.

The open orange notes transitions into a very distinct and sharp bitter orange scent during the drydown. It reminds me of the smell of an orange rind after letting it dry in the sun for a few days.

I will agree that this fragrance is a bit too mature for a guy under 30. Heck maybe even under 40. Stick with something more "fun" if you're younger, imo. This is definitely a fragrance that exudes refined class, though I have to admit, it's not quite for me.

The first time I smelled it which was sprayed on a sample paper, the first thoughts I had was “this is what a modern and a very expensive fragrance smells like”, and then I found out it was a Terre d’Hermes edt. It smells very modern yet timeless, but the word “expensive” comes up to my mind for some reason. The dirty orange smell is definitely there yet it smells clean, but not a soapy clean. It also smells very sophisticated and unique. This perfume is definitely my favourites and would recommend to give this one a try :)

A couple times in my life, there was a sniff on blotter in a store that tattooed itself on my brain, re-emerging over a decade later when I took a meaningful interest in fragrances. Terre d'Hermès is one of those - I first smelled it at the duty-free at London Heathrow in 2010.

I adore this fragrance and wouldn't want to be without it. Its beautiful, orange-and-pepper accord, somehow a little dirty and a little clean at the same time, is a major aromatherapy pick-me-up in any season. At 4-5 hours, it remains nice and citrusy. At 12 hours, there's not much left. But remarkably, it remains citrusy through the end of the day instead of evolving to something really different; TdH is pretty linear. Most citrus-forward fragrances either evolve or disappear entirely, and as a citrus lover I appreciate this aspect of TdH. My lady likes it, but she likes Nicolaï New York Intense a little more. Had this tiebreaking vote gone the other way, TdH would be my signature fragrance.

There's much discussion about the EDT vs Parfum variants. In my experience, the Parfum hits a little darker, projects rather less, but lasts longer. I prefer this EDT by a hair - but just a hair. I'd easily let availability or pricing sway my decision. But then, this is a popular designer fragrance, and availability and pricing are pretty easy compared to obscure niche fragrances. That's a point of gratitude.

This fragrance surprised me, as I typically gravitate toward "niche," unisex fragrances. It's rare for me to find a designer men's fragrance that appeals to me, and even rarer to find a citrus-forward fragrance that works with my skin chemistry. I love all citrus foods and flavors and love the idea of citrus fragrances, but for some reason, most citrus-forward fragrances immediately turn acrid on my skin. To my surprise, Terre d'Hermes does not.

The opening is a blast of citrus mosquito repellant, evoking impressions of hot summer days camping as a child. As soon as the alcohol smell burns off, I am left with a predominant note of slightly lemony orange - a balance of sweet zest, tart juice, and a hint of bitter rind. Underneath the orange, black pepper and something reminiscent of wood and graphite, like pencil shavings. Surprisingly for a citrus fragrance, the orange note continues to dominate throughout the fragrance's life even as it fades very slightly and the pepper and woods become more pronounced. Projection is decent and longevity is quite good. This works well as a daytime fragrance in a variety of situations if applied judiciously. 2 or 3 sprays are plenty.

I know this fragrance has got a hold of me because I find myself thinking about it, and wishing I were wearing it, even when I am not.

This has given me several compliments and rightly so. It's really fresh, woody.
It feels manly and mature, perhaps not for a 18 year old.
