What a masterpiece. The original Angel scent was silented down, and added candied violets with some praline scent. With some elegant smooth aure in it. Unusual, got it own characteristic something, interesting.
For autumn, early spring, day or evening. Some people questioninh it's sillage or longevity.
Well it's pretty damn good, 8 plus hours it is on. That is really nothing to be complaining about.

FlowerSeeker

Amber, patchouli, violet, and cedar. The violet reminds me of vintage 50’s perfumes. Violet isn’t my thing. But if you like violet, definitely give this a try. A nice vintage style scent.

melleners

I just received this in a mini and what a lovely surprise! Sweet violet candies over that familiar Angel patchouli base. I love this!

AlexandraTroush

I want to add that I finally know what word comes to mind when I smell this beauty: melancholy. This smells melancholic. Like longing for someone who you know doesn't feel the same way and never will.

lmnsvgz

It is a very likeable flanker of Angel. Not really like violet candy, but like a less concentrated classic Angel with a hint of violet.

MilaiaFoxe

I have a 2.5fl oz for sale SOLD

I love violet as a note and I love Angel, so I was super excited to smell them together. Despite being a fan of both, however, I must say I don't think they go super well together. The quintessentially "Angel" components of it actually smell a little bit less refined and complex compared to the bottle I have of the modern formulation. Part of it might be that due to the fact that this is discontinued, I had to get an older bottle on ebay, and perhaps some of the ingredients have gone off (it's because of this that I typically shy away from vintage bottles and being a reformulation queen). I think you could get a pretty similar version of this by just layering the original Angel with a good violet fragrance since this isn't particularly blended anyway.

Fuegogo

Hmm, wasn’t what I was expecting. Can’t really tell it’s an Angel. It’s very violet, and very woody. I agree with the reviews that say that this has a vintage feel to it. I can imagine the actresses of old Hollywood wearing something like this. It’s a great perfume, but it’s not really my style.

L'Homme Vert

This is perhaps the best of the garden of stars (jardin l'etoile) series by Mugler, creamy sweet, patchouli bomb violet that is out of this world, this garden flower is definitely star struck. I have 2 bottles in climate controlled storage, it's now time to put one into my every day rotation, shelf life is nearing useful limits I feel, the juice has turned slightly greenish with a purple tint, will be great for the upcoming winter, keeping these vintage treasures cool is paramount, I have hundreds of vintage and many from the early 2000's with another couple of Mugler's from the miroir miroir series, they need to be used as well, so much fragrance, too little time... I loooooove patchouli essential oil so this suits me just fine, one more very vintage violet I adore is *Violette* by Le Galion, almost impossible to find now & lost to the ether forever
I also have the rose & pivoine (peony) versions, the rose is quite heavy too, lots of Turkish absolute here, in fact utterly gorgeous, the peony on the other hand is lovely although much lighter than the other two & is my least favorite...These fragrances were very well composed

I love all the Angel garden of stars and this is no exception. I scored a few mini bottles for a reasonable price some 10 years ago and still love it. Probably not a work scent, but sexy and beautiful. The violet note makes it unique

SailorV

I couldn't really imagine how an added violet note would work with Angel, but know that I tried this, I think it works pretty well. This smells like a genetically enhanced violet in an enchanted forest. It's loud, syrupy and much less powdery than the average violet. Like candied violets, but with a lush and humid texture. The hyacinth emphasizes the dewy and green aspects of the flower, but doesn't really stand out. Which is a good thing in my book, as hyacinth can be quite bold, bordering screechy, and this scent already has enough going on without that.
Underneath the violet lies a lot of Angel's signature earthy-dirty patchouli, which is especially characteristic in the opening. There are definitely some gourmand notes, too, but this is only vanillic and chocolatey, without the sticky honey and cotton candy notes of the original. Instead of those it has dry woody notes, so the overall image I get is a carpet of unnaturally sweet violets deep in the woods between old trees, wet earth and moss. A dreamy, whimsical and slightly dark scent.

Like most of the flankers this is a little less polarizing than Angel, the dirtiness of the patchouli and the sweetness are toned down. It's still a very intense, projecting and long-lasting scent though, and also quite unique.
I'm thankful I had the chance to sample this. It's definitely worth a try for anyone who likes Angel or darker violet perfumes. Too bad it's so hard to find and Mugler doesn't make those beautiful flanker collections like The Garden of Stars anymore.

Ranya

A Mugler with a touch of vintage Angel and the faboulos violette...Not sweet as Angel is, different, extremelly ellegant and distinctive. Very expensive as it is not available since years, but a full bottle worth all the money. Stunning!

AlexandraTroush

I managed to find two 1ml samples and have been using them these past few days. It's cold and windy where I am right now, and this fragrance works perfectly well in these conditions. Longevity and projection are old Mugler level (read: nuclear).

As for the scent itself, I can definitely feel Angel in the base, but it's way less dirty and way less sweet. I'm surprised no one mentioned the soapiness in here! In fact, I would categorize this one as "floral, soapy Angel".

Is it a must-have? Not for me, but I'm definitely enjoying the samples I got. However, I will not be going out of my way to hunt down a full bottle. I love the OG and it's enough for me to have it.

Edit: I absolutely went out of my way to hunt down a bottle. When I ran out of my sample I realized I couldn't live without it anymore. It's a masterpiece!

miriamcarothers

I bought several sample vials from an eBay seller in 2014- all I could afford at the time.
I’m down to 5 vials and I treat them like my profile photo- my preciousssss!
Wearing in tribute to the passing of the mighty Mr. Mugler who is a artistic genius and I’m grateful for his epic creations.
This is the by far snazziest of any Angel flanker btw.

When the Original Angel came out, I got a sample at Neiman's when I went to purchase my signature fragrance Fracas. This was just as online sales became available but I was still buying in stores.
When I first tried Angel, I thought it was beautiful! I made that tiny vial last a long time. I found a few Angel perfumes at Marshall's, Anel Innocent Illusion, the fruity one and Angel Lily in a large splash decanter for dirt cheap. When you see these at Marshall's, you know they're being discontinued. I finally found a Resoureable Star of Angel at Kmart. I was thrilled! After wearing it for a while, I noticed an offensive odor like an armpit. Angel Innocent is beautiful with no stinking scent. Years later reading reviews of original Angel here on Fragrantica, I saw others noticed the stinky armpit too. I haven't worn it in years. A few years ago I found the Peony Angel and the Violette Angel in large splash on decanters and purchased them. Both are lovely! My favorite is the Violette Angel Garden Of The Gods collection. It has the Angel with beautiful Violet note, it's beautiful! I love Violet centered perfumes and this is one of the nicest ones in my collection. It's a little powdery and you don't need much. Stays on forever. I found another Violette Angel in case I go through this bottle. I've got quite a few Thierry Mugler perfumes but am becoming tired of anymore.
I've never tired of my Fracas and have been hunting down classic, vintage perfumes from the 40's and 50's. I'm especially intrigued with the creator Germaine Collier who created Fracas and Bandit both by Michael Piquet. I just ordered a Vintage bottle of Jolie Madame by Pierre Balmain created by Germaine Cellier and can't wait for it to arrive.
If you're able to find Violette Angel, get it. It smells elegant and vintage.

Scentedalterego

The garden of stars is my favorite series of the older Thierry Mugler collection, when Mugler was still Thierry Mugler and Violette is my favorite of them all. That says a lot because I have an unhealthy collection of Muglers. Undeniably sexy and innocent at the same time. A perfume for deep dark desires and sexy moods. Mugler performace, lasts all day and night. The best of the best for me.

Very hard to find, but 100% worth it in my book. They don't make them like this anymore.

perfumesniffer

Violette Angel is beautiful.

It starts off with a burst of original Angel; all sharp edges & patchouli-citrus fizzy action, but you just have to ride that out for about 15-30 minutes.

After the initial Angel DNA fades, it gets much, much softer and more like powdery violets and maybe a bit of licorice/anise with some heliotrope type fluffy powder. After it dries down you would only slightly be aware that it’s an Angel flanker. The longevity is excellent and there’s some sillage but you don’t have to worry about taking out whole buildings. There’s a little resemblance to Lolita Lempicka with the powdery licorice vibe but it’s way better.

If you love Angel you might not like Violette Angel because it’s much softer and cuddlier and low key. If you detest Angel it’s possible you could really love this (just get past the opening).

It’s kind of the Violet fragrance I’ve always wanted because it actually lasts and has a bit more heft than most delicate, lighter than air Violet scents.

Well done. I’m looking for a backup bottle.

Adding: my top Violet scents are Angel Violette (oriental mood), Guerlain Insolence edp (floral mood), Balenciaga Paris (spring/summer office wear) and Terry de Gunzburg Ombre Mecure (boudoir and/or winter mood).

aspirina

This scent brings a sweet and fresh violet dressed in a pale purplish lace dress, while wearing some kinky black BSM style underwear. She starts sweet fresh and innocent but the real intentions are there lurking, with a dense base of lustful patchouly, almost sweaty but not as dirty and offensive like in original Angel. I sense a touch of cumin there too...oh my..not sure if I should wear this in public...such a sweet, cute, raunchy, rancid, pleasurable, sensual, sexual, trip of a fragrance...haha..maybe I will get a full bottle after I finish my samples.

UPDATE: Ended up ordering full bottles...yep..2 of them.

Austrian_in_Denmark

After a bumpy start I have become a huge fan of the original Angel. In general Mugler perfumes are very good or at least super interesting on me. So I blind-bought several Angel flankers, among them Violette Angel. What could go wrong?

What did go wrong (and what I was not aware of) is that my skin amplifies violet by the factor thousand or so. This means, violet perfumes are a hit or - more often - a miss on me. Tom Ford's Violet Blonde is beautiful on my skin. Violette Angel on the other hand is brutal. I get a gigantic blow of violet, a lot of sugar and wood, and plenty of patchouli.

Reading the reviews below, I am sure Violette Angel must be wonderful on many others. Would love to smell it on someone who wears it well.

The sillage and the longevity are very good (as with most Muglers).

VolDeMinuit

Not many people realize this, but the sensational fragrance Angel was a Thierry Mugler's tribute to Marlene Dietrich. Angel was introduced in 1992, the same year Marlene died. "The Blue Angel", from 1930, was one of the most important films in her career. For the first Angel advertisement ever (circa 1993-95) Jerry Hall lays, as a voluptuous siren, on the dunes of White Sands park in New Mexico. This is a direct reference to a 1936 photograph were Marlene is laying on the dunes of a desert, posing in almost the exact same manner as Jerry Hall. In the 1990s Jerry Hall would appear on the Mugler's catwalk dressed in gorgeous jeweled gowns worn together with large white faux fur coats, resembling both the famous jeweled dresses and the ubiquitous, large white fur coats Marlene wore on stage during the 1960s!
Marlene was definitely on Mugler's mind when he imagined both Angel and his 1990s collections. What a beautiful tribute! Who would have ever known this? By the way, this Violet Angel version would have been probably Marlene's favorite since she absolutely adored violets? :)

Vickalicious

I purchased this as a blindbuy from someone off of eBay, and I'm so glad that I did. This is a really pretty scent, that I believe can be worn all year round. I get the original Angel DNA in the opening, but that doesn't last long. It transitions in to a soft slightly powdery violet, that is slightly sweet, but also slightly green (I'm guessing that is the violet leaf?) and earthy. Aside from the opening, this does not remind me of Angel. The longevity on this is fantastic. It doesn't have the projection that the original Angel has, which I think some will really appreciate, as many people feel that Angel is too strong. I noted that some reviewers got a BO note with this one..I don't get that at all on my skin, thankfully. I have a decent size fragrance collection (50-60 bottles), and I don't have anything like this- it's very unique. I haven't tried any of the others from the Garden Collection, but I'd really like to.

Aland2020

This smells nothing like the original Angel first and foremost. There is 0% of that cloying patchouli DNA. Instead this is replaced by a candied violet reminiscent of sweet tarts. There's a fruity kool-aid smell that is somehow juicier and fresher than the berry note I've gotten from other Angel releases. It's very pretty, but not what I would expect from Mugler by any means. The sillage is good at first, but dies down shortly after. It's got good lasting power like a Mugler so there's that.

I don't think that this smells unique enough for me to desire a full bottle. If this weren't released under the Mugler name and instead by Escada or a celebrity no one would even bat an eye. It's very pretty and pleasant, don't get me wrong. But unique or even angelic, it is not.

Avian

I have been falling in love with Angel Violette. It took a while, as the contrast between its dainty topnotes and dark base can be jarring at first spray.

Violette retains Angel's heavier base, with a large dose of slightly masculine patchouli and spicy, musk nuances. As with Angel, this musky tone can get a tad cumin-y, but it is somehow pleasant and totally unlike the stank of unwashed pits (for those of you concerned).

Violette is unambiguously feminine, unlike the original Angel, which I feel is more unisex. AV achieves this by nearly smothering the patch and vanilla with delectable sweetness that mimics drinking sugar water, then layers dewy, silky, un-powdery violets on top. The violets here are unlike those in many other perfumes as they never seem to feel weak, dated, or dusty and the sweetness of their floral tones melds seamlessly with the sugared earthiness of the rest of the scent.

The drydown reveals a stable and linear sweet, floral, earthy scent that is undeniably an Angel derivative but maintains a feminine impression.

My bottle has aged, and the purple liquid has turned a dark amber-brown color. However, the crystalline clear glass and purple Angel Star topper are a bright as ever. I think this contrast fits the scent much better than an overall dainty violet wash. Very cozy with a fanciful edge.

lucifera

ooohh i need this again :-( it's perfect, sweet and longlasting, pls pm me if you have a unwanted bottle ;-)

vivik

Reminds me of La Prairie Silver Rain. That patch´d sugar note as if smelled through falling rain...I like this.

Bia_Cata

This was my signature scent until it got discontinued. Chocolate truffles decorated with honey glazed violets - what more can you ask for ? I’m so bummed it got discontinued l won’t even bother ordering it online as overpriced samples. Such a shame. Such a wonderful scent.

Le parfum c'est chic

This perfume is such a nice surprise. I never liked the original Angel. It's too much, too loud and too smelled. As a violet's lover I was curious to try this one. Compare to the original, Violette Angel is so quiet. The violette note is really present and there's only a whisper of the original to remind you it's still an Angel. As a limited edition this one will never be too smelled. It's more a violet perfume than an ''Angel'' perfume.

desdekid

Am I the only one that smells a lot of suede/leaher in this? It reminds me so much of Rihannas Rogue, I can't believe suede is not listed in the notes...

Angeldaisy

Nuttals Mintos, cinnamon, pepper, syrup, BO. odd melon note. thick. sweet. balsamic. something indolic floral and slightly jasminey.
could there be a sharp green "violet leaf"? not really.
this has never seen oakmoss, but there's a synthetic oakmoss lurking in there somewhere, feint and unatural.
can hardly smell violets, but alpha-isomethyl ionone in there is at the bottom of the ingredient list.
more chewy buttery mints. definitely not parma violets.
but unfortunately as with all the Angels I have tried, my nose catches a sweet fresh Bobby Orange (Body Odour), which is just not what I want to have wafting up from my skin.
don't ask me why, but it reminds me of Allure Sensuelle (mostly the opening), which surprisingly, I love. Perhaps it's a particular rendition of Patchouli in the base. and that melon thing.
but mostly, it smells like Angel to me. without violet.
but I do rather like it. not sure I would recommend it to a violet lover though. there's more violet in a lot of perfumes that don't profess to have violet in them, like Boudoir for example.

jovejove

I do if the only way to smell like that is if he has to rub himself all up on me XD #manstank

blake.lee

@jovejove Hahaha! Yeah, the guy sounds lovely but I don't want to smell like HIM!

jovejove

Hellurr! I'll take the man you speak of! :D

blake.lee

I like Angel and I love violets, but it turns out I HATE Angel mixed with violets. This smells like violets crushed and rubbed on the armpits of a very virile man who has been exercising wearing Angel, but no deodorant. Powdery, sweet violets, armpit body odor and some chocolate from Angel.

Soofiya

After buying and loving angel la rose,I had to try other perfumes of garden of stars collection so when I found a 5ml mini of angel violette I grabbed it
I didn't know what to expect from the notes, violet can make me sad in non-sweet perfumes, angel's sharp, dirty patchouli has a sad, dark vibe too
When I dab it on my skin, first I can detect fresh, powdery florals, violet leaf and hyacinth then violet is added but it's sugary violets and oh boy,I adore candied violets, then I can get angel's gene,it's patchouli But wrapped in vanilla and softened by it,more like a chocolate with green, woodsy undertone and I can feel no dirtyness here,I really like this one,not as much as I love angel rose, still I find it very pleasant,a great fall scent, sweet and powdery and elegant, longevity and sillage are very good, ofcourse less than angel.I just dabbed some and I can catch whiffs of it,great
If you like sweet but sophisticated sugary violet scents, give it a try
❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Code1ne

Prozac in a bottle.

I was feeling really down this morning, and most of my scents aren't of the true "pick-me-up" variety, but today I needed that more than anything. Sugary violets on top of Angel's deeply sweet chocolate/candy-ness combined with refreshing patchouli was like an instant anti-depressant. Coupled with a red bull and cuddles from my boyfriend and fluffy Maine Coon and I'm feeling almost ok. I love you, Thierry Mugler <3

foxy_princess

My all time favourite perfume and the most perfect floral scent that exists to my nose

My signature scent for as long as I continue to find it as its so incredibly difficult to source since its been off the shelves for nine years now

corkscrewcurly

I LOVE the original ANGEL. It is a fragrance bomb, of course, easily filling a room... On me, it is musky, spicy, hot dark chocolate. It makes me feel very sexy, as if I should be laying on soft satin and velvet cushions, wearing not a great deal... mmmmmm... Definitely not a fragrance to wear to work!

On the basis of my love affair with Angel, I blind-bought a small bottle of Violet Angel, and - oh dear lord - this smells offensive on me. I smell like I haven't washed my dirty, stinky, sweaty armpits for months. Apparently this is known to happen for some users of the original Angel, but I don't think anyone has commented on this with AV.

The contrast between the two fragrances, given their similarities, is extraordinary. Isn't it odd how can one smell SO good and the other SO vile on the same person???

Judrops71

I had a few samples of this a few years back and loved it. Now I can't find it hardly anywhere, so disappointed..

LisaMari

Sugared violets from start to finish, the sugar fades in the drydown and patchouli becomes a little more prominent but violet remains the star. This is the one from the garden least like the original Angel.

Alayna1011

Regular angel plus violets. Maybe a little softer than regular angel, but still just as nasty with all that sour patchouli ruining everything. I was hoping there would be more emphasis on the violets rather than the patchouli, but that is not so. Moderate sillage and decent longevity. Not for me.

Wheaters

This is my second review for this perfume.
I have an apology to make to Mr. Mugler.
I'm sorry for doubting this. I didn't give it chance to dry down before I washed it off last time and now I am smitten. I love love love the Violet and chocolatey note and the woodsy, muskiness of it.
It has been propelled to my top five. It is classy, sweet, powdery, comforting, and beautiful.

DAL123

First blast was Angel and flowers. Was not delicious. 15 minutes later it was Angel light with violets. Now, about an hour after I first sprayed I have a nice violet-patchouli-vanilla scent. The patchouli is strong-not Angel strong- but strong. The violets seem to tone it down a bit. If the original Angel is not your thing, give this a try. Its a pretty good flanker. You just have to wait it out a bit to get the true scent.

EDIT: The true scent I though I was getting turned back to a very Angelish floral. Not something I can wear. Bummer. Have a 3.4oz tester available for swap in the US.

Migotka

I tested the original Angel twice, and twice hated it. I did like some of the flankers though, so was quite excited about trying Violette one. Now, I did forget that I do not like violets in perfume all that much- there is only a handful I tolerate... You can see where this is going, right?

I do not think I would be able to wear this for a longer period of time. The scent is very earthy and damp, for me this is the scent of rotting leaves on the ground after a heavy rain, the air heavy with humidity. This is even more emphasised by the patchouli note that again brings out the wet ground aspect of the fragrance. It makes me think of hothouses. It is a powerful fragrance, very strong, so I would not recommend to anyone who does not love violet with passion.

I think it is an interesting scent, but focuses heavily on the notes I am not too fond of. Works quite well when outside, as I find it too much when I am in enclosed spaces.

Edit: this is gorgeous when you go outside. I wore it for a walk among windy hills today, and it two sprays on my scarf smelled fabulous. So I uphold my previous statement, and will wear my decant out when going out.

x-x-x-ANGEL-x-x-x

You have to really love the smell of violets, as this is a strong scent. Even with one spray it smells like a strong spray. It's nice, but may be the only Angel flanker that I'm not head over heels for. Although I have samples of the other 3 Garden of Stars fragrances so hopefully they will bloom better on my skin.

Bublegum

This is the one of the series that I will actually pay to buy it, because to me it doesn't smell like the original Angel. Even the opening is not same. I love the original Angel, but I don't want a flanker to smell so similar to the original that you won't be able to tell the difference. Having said that, this one smells mostly of violets, candy and the vanilla-patchouli combination which is so distinct to Angel, along with some wood notes. Good longevity but I have a feeling that the sillage is moderate. Definitely not Angel levels. I can say that if someone likes sensual violets, even if s/he doesn't like Angel, s/he should give a chance to this one, since it is not that ''Αngelish''.

mirrorghost

from this, i get the regular angel scent mixed with violets that smell a bit like violet candy but with a green violet freshness as well. i love angel and i love violet, but i am not sure about them being mixed together. angel with rose made a better first impression on me, but maybe it's just a mood thing. it's the perfect thing to wear if i want a greener, daintier angel, i think. however, there is no creaminess and no patchouli, so i feel like the sexy depth of angel is lacking here. it's nice but i am not a huge fan of fresh scents, but it is nicer once it's been on for an hour, when the greenness of the violet has faded. i could see wearing this at the beginning of spring, when i am in an angel mood but the original is too heavy.

Wheaters

This starts off really nice, then is nice except for a sharp note which is a bit weird, then when you try to wash it off, what you are left with is divine. However I suspect that the smell of washed-off perfume wasn't what Thierry Mugler was aiming for so I'd better accept that it's not for me. If a perfume is sweet I want it to stay sweet, not go off on a bitter tangent.
You never know til you try though so glad I tried it anyway.

Edit: I humbly apologise to Mr Mugler. I have submitted an updated review recently. I LOVE this now.

Norgirl

ohh boy do i love this beauty .
I knew i neaded to revisit this lovely bottle of Violett Angel when i started to get the feal for Violetts again and boy has my taste changed , At first years ago i could not wrapp my head around this one at all.It was just weard and unplesent to me.
But now i am in love , The violet and Patchouli in this goes so perfectly hand in hand making me think of a walk in the forest , with a slight breeze from the salty ocean near by ,The oakmoss is here to in such a beautiful way, woods and suggerd Violetts and Hyacints lifing up this beauty aswell to make it always fairy like ,
This is not so much adout the darkness of the original Angel . Infact there is little reminding me of Angel at all. This is more similar to T M Eau de star IMO ,
This one is long lasting and flotes around you like a vail for a good 6-8 hours .I love it to bits nead another bottle for shure . ( so if you have a backup and thinking of getting wridd of me let me know :)..)
Realy lovely earthy Violetts Thumbs up from me

flowers-in-the-springtime

The original angel was and always will be, my most beloved perfume of all time. Unfortunately, due to ridiculous people dousing themselves in it, they have succeeded in annihilating a classic genius scent and creating the monster that it has become.

Violetta Angel is stupendously beautiful. This is Angel without attitude, all wrapped up in beautiful violet.
The drydown is heaven in a bottle. This fragrance lingers for hours on end and has that famous Mugler wonderful silage.

Eridanshay1

Gorgeous! Angel toned waaaayyyy down with the addition of violets.
This has such a vintage quality and I love only having the miniature because I don't have to spray it. I have to use my finger, tip the tiny bottle (which is beautiful & has the same tall cut glass (looking) stopper as the regular sized beautiful bottles do) and then dab my pulse points with the perfume. I like to invision my grandmother having applied her perfume in this way. The violets are still sugar coated, but powdery, soft, soothing and indulgent. Chowards confection company makes a Violet Chewing gum and it reminds me of this perfume. Sweet, floral, innocent & simply pretty.
Cheers!

VintageViolet_

This is far better than the original Angel in my opinion. I got none of the sweat/body odour scent from this thankfully! Longevity was dissappointing though, probably 4-5 hours at best.

foxy_princess

The reviewer below me did what i did! this was my mums signature fragrance back when it was around. i searched everywhere for a full size bottle but no luck, and any that i did find were ridiculously expensive. So i went on ebay and bought 20 x 1.5 ml samples for £8.99! now i have 30 mls of an old discontinued favourite. i do not give a hoot about having the fancy bottle. the beauty is purely in the fragrance. when you smell it you get a whiff of fresh green violet leaves and a sweet trail of crushed sugar, smokey patchouli and of course, the powdery violets <3

Silage: Not enormous as when I first wore it, the few bottles left in circulation today are old so the silage is a bit lower than before. However it is noticeable when you walk past people!

Lasting power: 6-8 hours, lasts forever on clothes!

Season: I wear this in the spring and summer months. It makes me feel like I'm in a forbidden forest surrounded by the sounds of chirping birds and insects.

WOW!

Fresh, sweet and green. Smells like parma violets (the sweets)!

Violet, lily and fresh green violet leaf stand out. These sit on traces of the trademark patchouli and vanilla. I'm really starting to love this 'garden of stars' collection, it is a shame it's discontinued!

However, I got 30ml of sample sprays for less than £10!

Long lasting and projects moderately/heavily!

This is Angel but softer with a light purple gentle attitude. An understated kind of classy. Still though, longevity and sillage are very much there. There is no mistake that this is Angel, refined. The violet leaf balances out the vanilla perfectly. Ever so lovely is this Angel.

nellyrlight

I am obsessed about this one!!! So unlike anything else I've ever worn..I can smell the violets with the classic Angel formula in it..It's warm and sexy, the base notes stay and stay in your pores after many hours..I love to still be able to smell it in my pores while showering at the end of the day and spraying it on my sheets before bed is heavenly!

divasg

I have a 25ml bottle of this I do not want. Open for swap or purchase! Sprayed only twice but I can't stand the smell.

Ouch!

There really is only a tinge of what "Angel" is in this fragrance and what that is, is the patchouli. This has Mugler's particular choice of patchouli that is found in Angel but the quantity that it's used in very understated.

Other than that? this is an entirely new fragrance.

It smells like sugary sweet violets, with an airy almost candy tone to them. It's nothing like the beast that is Angel. I wouldn't even say that this is typical of a Mugler fragrance but I'm not saying it's bad. Man...is it pretty? YES! This is like a fairy perfume.

Very sweet, soft and vanillary violets with a very subtle patchouli is what you get with this and it's not overly complicated, it's just that....pretty, sweet and safe.

:)

Angel Violette opens with Angel's signature patchouli + vanilla/sugar combo. I initially worried about the sugar being watery sweet. Luckily it's smoothened by vanilla. However, the patchouli seems a little bit sharper compared to the other three Garden Stars, but still, it's been toned down a lot compared to the original. And as usual, the patch + sweetness combo smells like chocolate.

Violette doesn't evolve dramatically. The Angel base is softened by violet leaf, hiacynth and violet but none of them is distinctive enough. After 1 or 2 hours later, like sofiii mentioned, the scent did remind me of the cherry + licorice combo in Jesus del Pozo in Black.

It turns into a skin scent after about 5 hours. The vanilla and sugar mellow while herbal notes become more prominent. It lasts about 8 hours in total and the sillage is relatively soft.

Violette is indeed Angel but softened by violet. However, if you're looking for an unusual violet prominent fragrance, I might not recommend it as first choice.

EDIT: After wearing it a few times, I can now discern the peppery violet leaf and the spicy and powdery violet. The violet combined with the patchouli also gives me a discreet dried plum like note. But overall, it's still like looking at Angel through a violet veil, as the violet mingles meticulously with the other notes in Angel Violette.

fire2heart

I own Angel, but my husband hates it and has it hidden in storage somewhere, hahaha! I saw the reviews for this and I love violet and powdery scents, found a great deal and had to buy this.

I love the opening! Most sugar sweet scents don't come across as too sweet on me, and this is the case with Violette Angel. It is not a punch in the nose like regular Angel is. I can smell the hyacinth very strong in the top notes for the first 15 mins or so.

Oddly enough, though, is that I can smell the violets when my nose is close to my wrist after the opening notes but the scent in the air around me is of the original Angel, only subdued. I imagine it's the patchouli, it's a very distinct and different from any patchouli I've detected in any other perfume.

I had it on my wrists when I was around my husband and he didn't make comment, so I'm guessing he didn't detect anything, yay!

It's been about 3 hours that it's been on me and the violets have faded away, along with most of the patchouli and I can detect a spicy vanilla.

Once he goes to work, I'm going to give it a full tryout and not just a few drops on my wrist and come back and update my findings. Stay tuned.....

I just hope my husband doesn't mind this perfume or I'll have to only enjoy it when he is not around!

UPDATE:
I tried a little on my wrists the other night around my husband and son. My son said it's ok, but wow did I hear about it the next morning from my husband about how awful he thinks it is! Bummer that I'll only be able to wear it when he is not around :(

camarillo

gahh... sweet perfume but really to strong :|

icingsugar

My favourite from the range, angel with a fizzy opening of sweet violet...I have finally found an angel I love!

goingblonde

First spray way to potent ,
with in minutes settles into a powdery Violet that is rather un-remarkable.
Powder is of talcum type scent not baby powder .

After a few hours all the powder disappeared & it became a lovely soft Violet scent that I really like .

Hrisi

Can't say my favorite note is a violet, but I like this fragrance, don't know why....it's just beautiful long lasting with great power perfume!

deagemini

A wonderfull parfume.....

KasiaS

First of all, thank you blueberry, sweetie, for the sample!
This is a nice fragrance, but O, MY, does it ressemble the discontinued Envy Me 2 by Gucci! Same wet-powder, fresh and talky feel on a patchouli bed. Just incredible. This one has much better longevity, though.
Much different from the original, I dare say - totally different. You might want to give it a try if you liked EM2 and, yes, Insolence by Guerlain.

blueberry

Violette stands out from the rather bland and boring Pivoine and Lys, and sweet and well-behaved Rose in the Garden set of Angel's flankers.

This one is for a bold, a bit brusque and uncompromising woman who says: "take it or leave it and don't waste my time". In a black leather jacket, she burns tires with loud roaring when driving off from the underground parking lot on her motorbike. All this imagery is a result of the rubbery and gasoline effect the distinctive violets (both as flower and leaf) give off. By no means is this unpleasant - treated with a huge dose of sugar (luckily not syrupy and sickly sweet) and vanilla the concoction is quite intriguing to the senses, even though the synthetic vibe may show up every now and again. Then comes the patchouli (not enough for me, though) and the story ends after 6 hours, which is not bad at all for a flanker.

I wouldn't say it is very Angel-like in the drydown (Rose version does it better), but the impression of "naughtiness" is very much in line with what I get from the original perfume. Definitely a nice option for those who can't wear Angel EDP or EDT, but look for a statement fragrance, with a dark aura, but lesser longevity and sillage.

kxnaiades

i love violet scents and i love angel but this one just didn't hit me the way i thought a combination of things i love would. its a pretty scent but i won't buy it again. would still go back to the original angel.

LufuFaerydae

Candied violets so whimsically placed on top of a vanilla cake, meant to be placed outside at dusk in a woodland area for faries to come from their hiding places and eat this treat using violet leaves as a plate and clinking glasses filled with patchouli nectar. This is a celebration of youth, joy, and light hearted magic, all captivated inside this bottle. I love this more than the angel toilette and hope that there will be a re launch similar to the garden of stars someday.

fath1ma

Perfect violet! The name, Garden of stars - Violette describing perfectly for its scent! I love it, not the kind scent that I had already :) and I don't see the relativity, similarity, with other also.

Devrinna

At first it smelled on me just like Angel, but later my skin turned this into Chopard's Wish! Love it, it is very delicate and soft. Here were I live the weather is hot right now, and I don't find this scent cloying, it's really wearable!

moonwalker

I must have encountered somebody with a similar perfume in my childhood... and I apparently didn't like the smell. Anyway, on me this perfume smells way too sweet, artificial. In fact, it smells really cheap and synthetic. It also makes me nauseous. My first encounter with Angel range didn't go quite as I had hoped.

misteriouswind

I find this a lovely smell....like chocolate, vanilla, sugar. Sweet and warm. It can be wear during the day and night, in my opinion. Love Love Love.

flowerstar

I got a tester of this after trying Penhaglion's Violetta which is lovely. This however, is nothing like it at all, I can't smell the violet. It is incredibly strong and has a sickly sweetness which seems like vanilla to me, my bf said coconuts. I had to scrub it off; trouble is after 6 or 7 washings I can still smell it and I HATE it! Actually made me feel nauseous. Something in there rank and rotten. YUK!

Nadia Beatriz

I have a sample of this one, and I really love it, not just because it´s a mugler´s fragrance, but it´s a great fragrance, very sweet and pleasent scent, I hope I can get one of this soon.. It´s a must have for me Definelly..

MaggieKat

I just put this on about 15 minutes ago, the extreme sweetness knocked me for a loop at the start, it might still be a bit too sweet, but it growing on me.

emi_artist

I'm not surprised that the great Francoise Caron was behind Angel La Violette. In my opinion this is the best of all the versions of Angel, a softer, more feminine, less in-your-face version of the classic Thierry Mugler perfume, which sometimes can wear you rather than the other way round.

Angel La Violette opens with a very sugary and violet-like top note, which lingers for a very long time, after which it warms to the patchouli and woody notes almost in synchronicity, with the wood staying at the back and melding with the patchouli to add depth to the sweet violet-vanilla-sugar element.

Many violet perfumes can be too overly powdery and "staid". I think the other notes mellow the powder and add a sweet facet to Angel La Violette, preventing the violet from being too Victorian. A great modern violet scent for a romantic evening.

I mostly wear perfume for my own enjoyment and study, but I must add that this is one of the few perfumes my boyfriend comments on without me asking if he likes it: in fact every time I wear it he makes approving remarks. Bonus!

vanillabean23

If you love violets this will knock your socks off!! I remember when I first smelled it I was totally blown away by it! I'd never tried anything like it before. Like the other Garden of Stars fragrances, it is VERY long lasting. This one is very sugary/violet, but if you love going into overdrive with your scents, then you must try it. Never do things by half measure I say!

glitterlust

I adore this as a violet scent as it smells the most like an actual violet flower out of anything else I've tried.

It opens with a terribly sweet note that is very similar to Angel. After 10 minutes this disappears (much to my delight) and the violets begin to bloom. Green, sweet and delicious.

This lasts for a long time while patchouli adds depth and power. Like Angel, this scents lasts for days and projects through doorways and round street corners.

aray

To me this is a lighter, more wearable version of Lolita Lempicka. It's basically LL minus the licorice and the star anise, which takes a good bit of "darkness" out of the scent. Now, whether that's a good or a bad thing certainly depends on personal taste but I think it's a nice alternative or for occasions that do call for a scent that's a little tamer than LL.. ;)

Zinderella

I agree with One :) it does smell like the original Angel to me, but softer/gentler and with a sprinkling of violets floating on top.
Original Angel is too "something" for me.. too much something... and it reminds me of so many scantily clad, miniskirted Saturday night teenagers waiting to enter the dance clubs in the main street of town.
At the moment I only have a sample vial of Violet Angel, but every time I wear a little, I cant stop smelling my wrist :)

melia

A merely recognisable Angel here. Allready from the beginning it has this sweet greenish note which my nose interpetates as 'fruity'. Later on it's quite woody and sweet actually, but in controversion to Angel le Lys, the whole Angel-charactre is completely gone. That is not a bat thing, but I don't think it really fits as a flanker of Angel. It actually lacks a bit orginality too... Still it's nice, and being a sweet and not to quiet fragrance it could easily be worn to an evening at the bar or club.

seatonica

Wow! A big, blowsy violet in full bloom - no dewy creature this and therefore not for the faint-hearted. Knocks your socks off, as you would expect. Thoroughly purple. Love it!

FunkyTomo

Got my 25ml bottle ( new and sealed) off eBay today .......Oh how i love eBay for discontinued perfumes !!

Wonderful, gorgeous bottle that has taken pride of place on my dressing table..........cant stop sniffing my wrist .

Just lovely.

FunkyTomo

IM a big TM fan , but the original Angel is the least favorite TM fume of mine. ITs just too chocolate , too sweet , too something i cant put my finger on - but i know i dont like it !

I got Violette Angel as a sample vial in my local freindly shop this friday ( I had a date on the same eve) . I had a tiny sniff when i got home , WOW - LOVED IT from the first violet blast of powdery sweetness!

I decided to forgo my usual Signature Scent of Alien , and use the tester vial for the evening out instead. A bit of a risk seen as id not yet given it a full "Test run " !! I made the right decision

Now usually I'm a heavy sprayer ... and a test vial is nowhere near enough for a full eve usually ...But with this it definitely WAS enough ! A Little goes a long way with this one.

Me n my Beau could smell it all eve ( he loved it too!) , I could also still smell the dry down of it the next day - So 10/10 for longevity. I also got plenty of "you smell great , what fume is it ?" type comments from other ladies :)

A beautiful scent if your not a fan of the original Angel and love Violet . The violet note is strong , but i liked that.

9/10 - I will definitely be buying a full size bottle of this ( IM praying now it hasn't been discontinued like most of the scents i like!)

The scent is such good quality you really only do need a little spray ! I still had a little bit of the tester left the next eve , which i layered on top of my TM Alien - That made a heady and intoxicating mix which i will also be doing again

MUst try some of the other Violet fumes ive discovered on this site ASAP :)

Karuna

On my skin, just like in the classic Angel, wet, brackish patchouli clearly dominates the vanilla. Therefore Violet Angel doesn't smell like a candy or cookie. It has more floral than confectionery notes.
Indeed, the opening is very sweet, powdery, but from the first moments also clearly smells like fresh, vivid violets; with their velvety, fragrant petals, mossy, dark, succulent leaves, growing in the shadows, hidden from the rays of sun in moist thicket.
It smells also wet, like a humid soil that nourished these charming, modest flowers- it's the note of patchouli, so characteristic for the whole "Angel's family" .
Violet Angel does not evolve distinctly, nor develops surprisingly. And when it "sits" on the skin, it's offering many hours of delicate sweet scent of violets- and for that, I love this perfume.

One

I think this version of Angel suits people who are looking for a softer version of Angel better then the one who are looking for a violet perfume. I find Angel quite strong and was hoping to find a softer version with clear violet notes. I barely smell the violets; to me it smells like angel with some violet "sprinkled" at the beginning.

beauty_girl

Tested it on my hand yesterday, and on my hand it first smelled ok,then it started to smell like pure sweat, it was so awful!!!!!!!!!! Today i am testing it on my throat, ready to run to the shower if it starts to smell sweat. What an odd scent i must say.

Edit: Have tested it again on the hand, and still it smells like sweat there. On my throat it smells ok,a bit sweet. Lucky for me it is just a sample.

imellie

It was awful for the first few minutes, smelt like strong sweet alcohol. But then it started to grow a little on me. Hmm. Not my style tho.

NellyBlack

i hate the original angel cause its too overpowering for me...
but this one is lighter and more gentle, its awesome for winther/fall or evening :)

MirabelleJee

This one isn't a field of violets like Penhaligon's Violette for example, only a pale shade of violets on the background. It is not as bright as my favourite Rose angel is, but I like this fragrance for it's lightness, softness and sweetness. It's perfect for day and office.

nyoka

THis is a long cool drink of water on a hot, humid day. There arent many that fit this description!I hate angel but,I love this.Violets are such small flowers but they contain alot of fragrance. This is soft but,not too soft. And,it lasts! I use to grow violets on my window sill.I was greeted by their beauty and sweet scent every morning. When i wanted to root one for another plant,I would pinch one of the leaves off and put it into water. That leaf scent is all on its own, wonderful. That leafy smell cuts down on the honeyd sweetness. When after a few weeks the roots would appear, they had a oakmossy, patchouli woody scent .Its in heretoo!I dont smell so much the vanilla but thats ok.Ill just let all the glorius violets overtake me and transport me to that mythical garden.

arianperfume

This is such a sweet lovely perfume, it smells like candied violettes indeed, reminds me a lot of Caron 's Aimez Moi but sweeter, last very long , amazing sillage, the best in the garden series in my opinion.

Jillzilla

I can smell it's relation to the original Angel, but on the whole this fragrance is much fresher and cleaner. I can see how it might appeal to more people.

I normally have difficulty with violet notes, but the sugar, woody notes, and patchouli really balanced the violet on my chemistry. It feels modern and feminine in the top and heart notes, but the oakmoss gives the base a slightly retro-au-natural feel to me. At first I thought I was smelling a bit of musk, but I see no musk note listed. Anyhow, by the time it has dried down, it reminds me of the musk scents I used to smell wafting off my grandmother in the early '80's.

It feels more natural and breezy than the original Angel, and I give it a thumbs up, but I'm not sure yet whether it's for me.

lucifera

hmm the better version of angel indeed! great lasting power indeed, love it
perfect 10, its suiteable for warmer weather too!

sherapop

VIOLETTE ANGEL is a vast improvement over the original ANGEL. The lightly sweetened violets mingle immediately with violet leaf and oakmoss, giving an almost green chypre quality. All of this in place of the "everything but the kitchen sink" gourmand smorgasbord buffet in the original, which I find pretty tough to swallow and even more difficult to digest.

The drydown of VIOLETTE ANGEL is that oh-so-familiar ANGEL patchouli vanilla. Most of the green chypre and violet have flown away leaving a pleasing, long-lasting layer very similar to the ANGEL drydown. I would consider adding this entirely wearable edp to my collection, but it is really for patchouli lovers only.

Amethyststar

I loved this for about 30 minutes--the violet was heavenly--but now the strong scent of chocolate has taken over, and I cannot stand food smell with flowers. Why do I smell chocolate when it's not in the ingredients? So I am STILL searching for my perfect violet fragrance!

adele l

Love the original angel... this is very strong sweet violet on me, and holy hell the violets actually overtake the Angel base in the first leg! Didn't think that was possible..I really couldn't abide it the first time I tried it. It's utterly frightening but Violet Angel is growing on me! Did TM surreptitiously add crack to it?

libertybelle

Yes, sweet at first application but that mellows. I personally do get a resemblence to the original Angel but less sweet and overpowering. I do enjoy violets and it takes a few minutes or so for the greeness of the violet leaves to come out which is welcome. I think this fragrance is great for a cold day. Of course, good sillage and longevity. I like but probably not enough to purchase but I'd wear if gifted.

Dark Curls

Wow this is a very deep and woodsy violetty fragrance..i am in love! Thierry Mugler just drives me nuts ^_^

Mad-Lainey

I was extremely sceptical as I have never been a big fan of violets, I thought, what the heck, it was long time ago, my taste might have changed so I gave it a try...just to fall in love with it :-)
It is velvety sweet, different than any other violet based perfume, it is delicious at first but after half an hour it becomes really violetty :-) romantic and nostalgic...like walking down the meadow on a sunny warm day...
That perfume is like the most beautiful organza shawl worn on an evening night out...
Gorgeous!
12 hours lasting power makes it my favourite - the quality you'd expect from Mugler :-)

milena

Although I'm not a fan of angel this particular little gem is not bad.Only bought it because it was on special and to my surprise smells nice on me.Sweet but not overly and has that slight violet smell.
Lasting power is good.

mymlan

Violette Angel is a lighter take on original Angel. This is a clear but still very strong floral fragrance, only slightly softened by sheer violets. The bottle is beautiful, but as I'm looking for thick sweet velvety violets I think I will do without Violette Angel. At least for this time beeing.

Shyn's Release

This wasn't bad the Violette was tastefully infused into Angel perfume. This one reminds me of a lighter softer Boudior by Westwood. The bottle is stunning.

JML LEE

i was really shocked that i liked this perfume coz i really hate angel its become one of my favorite perfumes ive learnt to try different versions of perfumes even if i dont like the orginal perfume:-)

truffles

I too love the smell of violets.
However this perfume gets a resounding NO from me.
The little violet touch was pleasant but kept playing hide and seek and the base of this fragrance is simply Angel.
Angel to me is crass, there's nothing feminine about it. To me it is a clumsy aftershave in the same stable as Kouros. A strange smell which I never want to wear again!

missk

I love the smell of violets when they are not too strong or too powdery. In this fragrance they are perfect.

Violette Angel is delicate, fresh, green and sweet. It is surprisingly quite warm and comforting, almost like a cashmere blanket draped over your shoulders. I'll agree with Happyme2009 that this is indeed a Wintery scent.

I love that this fragrance is sweet without being too sweet. Forget cotton candy, think lightly sugared violets, powdery almost.

This is by far my favourite from the Garden of Stars collection. I loved it the moment I sprayed it, even before I let it develop. And let me tell you, the drydown is divine. Soft and powdery vanilla with the slightest hint of violet.

Once again the sillage and lasting strength does not disappoint, Thierry Mugler fragrances rarely do. This fragrance gets the thumbs up from me.

Happyme2009

Great winter perfume, definitely not for any other season; very strong, wished it had less angel and more violet in it; reminds me of fresh lilac too, which is nice; very lady like perfume, mature and serious, sophisticated, elegant; needs an occasion to be worn, heavy and not easy to match; much better than the original angel, which gives me headaches. A statement perfume, for a powerful and confident woman. Love it some days, and some not....

kastehelmi

I am not sure if I hate the "violet" note for fragrances in general, or if I just hate this fragrance in particular-I know I rather dislike patchouli although I tolerate it in the original Angel. Not only does it smell musty and dusty on me, it smells sweet in a way worthy of me being called "a phony" if I wear this, à la Holden Caulfield...

Cherub573

This was the only "Garden of Stars" version I found interesting. The patchouli wasn't as strong, and it was more of a fresh, floral sweetness than the others.

Malegria

I liked it more the Angel of Lilies.Sweet, but not deadly sweet on my skin, and the violet note is really pretty. The patchouli base is great - somehow the scent in the base reminds me of Eden by Cacharel - sweet, gentle patchouli.

Issveig

Sweet, sensual, feminine but not banal or too sugary. Very dreamy and fairytale-like.
After one spritz I swear I smell lime tree blossom, very creamy and sultry in a positive way. Then, after some time it turns into a bit powdery scent - you can smell muddy violets (big influence of patchouli)with some woodsy notes and clean vanilla.
This is the one that I like the most from the Garden Of Stars collection.

tessture

Angel with Violet. I love the violet bit, but the underlying body odor note is here, too, just like in the original and it ruins the whole thing for me.

Carla

If your fascination of violets runs rampid this one might be for you. The vivaciousness of the vibrant violet leaves along with the sweetness of the violet flower are plentiful and in full force like a purple rain in it's first two stages. In stage three the patchouli and vanilla produce a calming powdery effect, yet the depth of the strength is still vivid. This is bold and soft at the same time so those who choose to wear this must be confident. This is not a shy scent so "shrinking violets" wear with caution.

F_A

This is the second fragrance after La Rose that i like from the Garden of stars collection. This scent is very soft, warm and nicely sweet. I really love its smell of powdery violets,- reminds me Guerlain Insolence EDP a little:)

barbiot35

I'm disappointed about this perfume...I was expecting much flowery and much original scent from the name "violet angel"...
