Opium Vapeurs de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Opium Vapeurs de Parfum was launched in 2012. Top notes are Pink Pepper and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Orange Blossom and Jasmine; base notes are Incense, Nutmeg, Woodsy Notes, Amber, Benzoin, Vanilla and Patchouli.

Yves Saint Laurent launches a new version of the Opium perfume in April 2012. The fragrance is called Opium Vapeurs de Parfum or "fragrant fumes," representing a balance of sensual and luminous, warm oriental notes and the freshness of the Mediterranean. Opium becomes gentle, caressing and light, while retanining its distinctive oriental and spicy character.

The composition embodies the contrast of white flowers and resins. It starts with freshness of mandarin and pink pepper. Orange blossom and Sambac jasmine in the heart lead to the base of incense, nutmeg, amber, vanilla and light woods.

Available as 50, 75 and 125 ml Eau de Toilette Legere.

I just got my hands on the 125 ml bottle.. This smells absolutely amazing. A soft fresh spicey, zesty, smokey delight.
It's perfectly unisex ( Reminds me of this sandalwood men's aftershave). Very light and luxurious.
I was initially hesitant to get it because of the incense note. l have been very unlucky with incensy fragrances, almost all of the stuff I tried turns into a Temple/Tarot reading studio type of incense on my skin. But this?!?! I can't even begin to describe how good it smells...
Very Signature scent worthy and a safe blind buy in my opinion 🥰

Edit : I might have overreacted a little bit and spoke too soon. I suppose I was subconsciously gaslighting myself into liking this perfume, not willing to admit that it was yet another failed blind buy 😅
Someone here mentioned that it smells like some sort of cleaning liquid, and I cannot get this out my head because it does actually kinda smell like crushed orange leaves that have been soaking in a very concentrated version of a cleaning liquid essence ...
Staying power is about 2 hours max on my skin, and on clothes it doesn't develop much and smells sharp. I'm trying to pair this with Avon's Today which is mainly orange blossom and cactus, and it seems to make OVP last a bit longer without interfering with its notes or ruining the scent profile. I'm determined to keep testing it, and hopefully I'll end up loving it.

Edit 2 : This is just too masculine for my liking. It would be more fitting for an elderly gentleman as an aftershave. I'm sorry but It truly lacks character and is devoid of anything remotely feminine.

Edit 3 : This is traumatizing. I literally feel abused by this scent. It induces a sense of doom.

Have come back to this several times through the years.

Conclusions -
The one produced by "LLC" is the reformulation, which is nowhere near as good.
The better version is the original, by "YSL BEAUTE PARIS". This is the one to look for.

This is signature scent worthy, on the right person.
To my nose, though, it contains a sweet violet note (not mentioned above) that puts me off.
It's a really good orange blossom scent, one of the best I've smelled; not too sweet - very natural, but this phantom bubblegummy violet note poo-poos it for me, personally.

Great quality scent with impressive lasting power.

myvibes

A whiff, a present nuance of orange blossom-flavored incense.
Extremely classy and refined perfume.

LiliiiS

on me this is all about soapy, citrusy florals(mainly neroli) in a soft, slightly spicy woodsy base. it's clean and dry and sheer. doesn't last long and is barely noticable on me. there are many perfumes in Opium family that I like but this one is meh.I think men that like white florals can pull out this one

Vonette

They probably shouldn't have called this Opium. Although if you use your imagination you can kind of get a resemblance. It's like they took all the top notes of Opium, added some extra orange blossom and vanilla and called it a day. I still like this but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. This will probably appeal to a wider and younger audience, however.

Ferra_Verto

Beautifully sheer citric orange flowers complimented by soft & spicy woods & incense.
Wears like a warm hug from a loved one, very cuddly.
Best suited in spring & autumn, I think there needs to be the right balance of heat & cold for it to be appreciated.
Lasts around 6 hrs on the skin.

puremugetto

This was a compliment magnet which i find curious.
It is a different composition nothing resembling to the original Opium.

It is similar to Frederic Malle Eau D'hiver.

Lady Odeur

This is very light, almost sheer. Color of the bottle perfectly suits the scent. Powdery white flowers, soft woods, spice sprinkles and light incense... Feels like a warm cuddle but sadly does not stay on my skin more than two hours.

Noha8

Elegant, feminine and happy scent. It's soft and heavy at the same time, simple and complicated at the same time. I like this type of scents which is at high degree of equilibrium.

lillybethholmes

I feel a bit contradictory about this one. It's nothing special, but I keep huffing my wrist. Nothing special but really well done and wearable. I've seen others say it's friendly and I agree - completely inoffensive, but I quite like being obnoxious with perfume 😂.
It's a smooth orange blossomy slightly spicy classy scent. I can imagine it working well in summer (not the return to Winter we have in the UK this weekend!)
Some of the same qualities as YSL Cinema or MFK Grand Soir. A like rather than a love. Yet here i sit huffing my wrist...

I picked up my seven year old daughter and her classmate from school today. As soon as they got in the car my daughters friend almost yelled: Oh, what is it this car smells of? I asked her if it was anything bad? No, she said, it’s the best smell - it’s flowers and strawberries and vanilla cake! And then I realized it was my perfume that I put on seven hours earlier that she really liked.
I like it too. It’s fresh and feminine but has depth and staying power. I don’t get any smoke or incense - and I don’t mind as I don’t like it on my skin. I get white fresh, wet flowers with some sweetness, a bit of spice and wood and some vanilla. I haven’t worn it in summer yet. But I almost can’t wait to.

Zethre

Sweet oily linalool and vanilla over soft woods, sort of reminiscent of Van Cleef and Arpels Orchidee Vanille, but less pencil shavings as the wood is only just there in this one

Edited to say, I found this rather sickly after about half an hour

ginandrice

Opium Vapeurs de Parfum opens with a sharp punch of peppery incense and citrus—then morphs smoothly into an ethereal, summery floriental.

OVdP is a warm, sweet haze of creamy balsamic incense and soft spice, enveloped around a core of fresh orange and orange blossoms. There’s a bit of zesty tanginess to OVdP (from the orange and the spice), but it blends seamlessly into the whole; neither too sharp nor too prominent.

I love both the original Opium and Vapeurs De Parfum, but they share very little in common, beyond both being Orientals.

I find OVdP sensual in a summery, atmospheric fashion. It’s intoxicating yet fresh; soft and light, but with translucent depth, which it seems to invite you to sink into. It smells delicate, and romantic, and slightly foreign (to Western sensibilities)—like golden hour in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Perfumeaddict777

Now this smells like a zesty orange cream pop to me! It's very strong and long lasting. The strongest orange cream scent ice found so far. I love layering it with vaniglia del madagascar! I love the scent of vaniglia del madagascar but it's a skin scent and vanishes quickly so I decided to try it with this and its amazing!!

Angeldaisy

White hot peppered incense off the bat. Orange blossom and neroli. I don't get mandarin oranges - more a pithy bitter zest.

Not legere.
This is white flowers (and white musk?). dry. hot. clean. powder. but at the same time quite powerful and almost meditative, with an equal and opposite peppered incense woods.

Last time I tested this I completely disregarded it and passed it on shortly afterwards, due to what I perceived as "clean" laundry musks, which for some reason, I rarely relish. Most likely "that jasmine" (not jasmine) I realise I struggle with.

The peppered incense woods note I recognise from testing Archive 69, as it happens, only yesterday.

And no, it doesn't remind me of Opium. I rather enjoy the contrast here of the white, brightness vs the dark peppered incense. This smells Yin Yang - Black & White Opium.

From memory it has a Lumiere Dore vibe about it. And it reminds me of Knot Absolue, but brighter, more powder.

I would really like to know who the nose is behind this?

MsLittlejohn

I just received a full bottle of this today in a trade, and, man is this a quality fragrance! I'd sampled the original Opium several months back and I didn't like it at all. I happened to see this on someone else's wants a little while ago and thought it sounded like a better version - lighter, fresher, not so in-your-face and nose and throat. Checked out some prices and found that it was NOT cheap! I couldn't risk blind-buying it. Anywho, I sprayed one spray on my wrist / arm about 3.5 hours ago, it was around 72 in San Diego today, 75 in my house. Wasn't exactly sure I liked it, but could smell something in there that I dug... I fell asleep, woke up and a whiff hit my nose, I sniffed my arm in my haze and said 'Mmmm, incense!?' I have NEVER liked incense perfumes, but I think the orange blossom and pepper / nutmeg / vanilla mix here really work sooo great together! It's a strong like right now, and like a lot of other reviews mentioned, for an EDT, the longevity here seems to be way above average. I can tell if I spray maybe just twice more in a full wear, once to the clothes and once on the other arm, I'd be good for at least 8 hrs. I'll guess longer in cooler weather? I'd really wanted Elle or Elle Intense to be my first YSL, but I think fate had it right placing this in my hands first! And the BOTTLE, Ladies!? It's just gorgeous. I still recommend trying it before buying, but I think it's a good fragrance investment.

UPDATE: I just love this. Who woulda thought!

UnearthlyApothecary

This slightly reminds me of a spicier JPG classique, it’s a soft feminine orange blossom powder with nutmeg spice and soft incense. The silage is very soft And I’m hoping for better longevity. It opens with a fresh citrus burst that is a tad sour and I’m not the hugest fan of that part, honestly I wondered if the bottle hadn’t turned for a minute. Thank goodness the sour citrus settles but sadly it doesn’t altogether disappear. Vapeurs is a good pick for a summer/spring incense/spice. I’ll update later on longevity for now, it’s a solid like but I’m still on the fence a bit.
After about 4 hours I think I’m getting to the Drydown phase and it’s become AMAZINGLY woodsy. Smells just like Marc Jacobs Decadence .I’m going to have to bump up the woodsy notes in my vote. This Drydown makes it a keeper!

SailorV

Opium Vapeurs is mainly a fresh orange blossom fragrance, and I usually categorize these as spring and summer scents. But the spicy pink pepper and especially the insence make this really autumnal in a light way, fitting for a crisp but clear day outside, to walk through crunchy leaves and look at smoking chimneys. The name Vapeurs, steam, is quite fitting, it really feels like some kind of light smoky mist in the air. I has nothing to do with Opium though.

The opening and the heart of this fragrance are original and special, but the drydown is a bit disappointing to me. It doesn't smell bad, but it's just another orange blossom with a hint of vanilla that feels a little too powdery and laundry-like to me. Somehow stuffy and dusty. Maybe it just doesn't work on my skin, or maybe I have smelled so many orange blossoms that I set the bar a little too high at the moment. I just wish the drydown was a little more oriental and that I could actually smell the patchouli and amber in this.

Charess

This one immediately made me think of a lighter, more delicate version of Elie Saab Le Parfum.
I get lots of orange blossom. Also a fair amount of non-sharp pink pepper and soft incence. Initially I also smell some mandarin orange, but that fades away quickly. The nutmeg is a nice addition to the scent, it evokes a creamy-nutty aroma. The fragrance smells quite linear, with the orange blossom as the most prominent note.

Sillage is soft to moderate, longevity is about 4-5 hours.

BTW, this doesn't remind me of Opium EDP/EDT at all! A completely different fragrance :)

DT953

I still stand by my belief that this may very well be one of the cutest, most innocent sexy fragrances of all time. The pink pepper spiciness transcends this to make me not really care that it isn't really related to it's namesake pillar, Opium. She's distantly related, but very different. This is young, floral dresses and ingenue mystery personified.

Don't let the appart lightness trick you, though, it can be very overpowering if oversprayed - dare I say it, even unpleasant. If applied lightly, this baby sings and creates a beautiful aroma that billows around you and will bewitch anyone. Very floral, very spicy and very, very beautiful. Can't give enough praise. Is this discontinued? I can't find it anywhere...

thegoob

Opium Vapeurs is the embodiment of "translucently smoky". It overall translates to youthful, serene, and reserved.

This is a fragile, crystalline memory of the classic resinous orientals that came before it. If your OG Opium, Youth-Dew, etc. are the incense burning in an enclosed Egyptian pyramid, this is a luxurious spa in the Mediterranean; open windows, white sheets. The most notable thing I can say about it is the incense stands out. It's very delicate and heat-friendly. Wear time isn't great though, maybe slightly below average.

Olotitan

This Opium Vapeurs de parfum for being a Legére" which means light feathery is absolutely stunning and surprisingly long lasting, the orange blossom with the incense and pink pepper is just right I didn't expect to like as much as I did considering I'm not a pink pepper fan at all maybe black pepper would've been better..
For me the juicy narcotic orange burst then comes orange blossom with incense nutmeg and pink pepper making it soft and spicy not too floral for me it does remind me a bit of Aqva Amara Bvlgari!

This was a blind buy that surprised me totally giving it 4 stars!
It's gorgeously sublime as a Summer fragrance!
Go for it and the flanker is BEAUTIFUL!

aguschinita

This smells like sweet orange blossom mixed with timid jasmine. I find it very similar to Reem Acra (at least the first 20 minutes- I just got this on the mail)
I can’t honestly find any resemblance with opium.
This is a light cologne for the summer. Nothing remarkable but nothing horrible either. Safe bling buy if you like orange/sugar/jasmine combined.

EsmeCrowfoot

For all the fans of this fragrance: at the moment in Primark there is a dupe of this for £3.50 (for 50ml)! It’s just called “Orange Blossom” and has a “typed” label. Obviously the quality will not be quite the same but I found the smell really similar! X

cherrygalore

To put simply, this perfume is fresh, sweet, lovely and elegant. The bottle really represents the fragrance so well.

When I first sprayed it, I got a strong whiff of baby powder mixed with jasmine and orange. It's very zesty but not too much. It almost smells like sunscreen, but not in a bad way at all. It's a very mellow smell.

It's a perfume suitable for all women of all ages. It's fun and fruity, but still mature and prudish. Perfect for a spring day.

I like this perfume, but it's not entirely to my personal taste and I think some heavier notes would have made this a 10/10, but honestly it's a great perfume nevertheless.

After a while, I can detect the patchouli and orange blossom, and still smells faintly powdery, but it's balanced out beautifully.

MsKayJae

Opens with a faint sweetness and settles into a friendly fresh white floral fragrance with a hint of warmth from the incense and woods later on. A nice option for the warmer months when the heavier hitting Opiums are not sometimes appreciated by others.

Sabretoothkitten

Omg I was just in a blog on here about this one...the subject was summer incense scents. This is it, and it's beautiful and elegant. Love! So what if it's not the original Opium most people win t wear that in summer/ humudity. It's a flanker and a good one at that.

Gourmandlover

Just sprayed this for the first time from a sample on the back of my hand. And it was immediately a very big like. I will see if it has some decent longevity, if it has, I'm afraid I will end up with a full bottle of it. It smells very comforting to me but also very familiar, don't know if I have ever smelled it before.

damienthoresson

Have to disagree about this not being tart. On my skin it's a little sour, very tart and held up by an incessant pink pepper and incense base. In saying all of this, I love it. Very unusual, even if it is modern day chic personified. It just does it differently and I adore that. Some might call it 'just for the young ones' and I have to disagree. It takes guts to pull this off, even if it is understated. Very lovely.

tandaina

This is flat out lovely.

I really don't get citrus except for a bit of brightness/juice. It is not tart, or citrus forward. So never fear.

This is actually unique, I don't own anything else like it.

Smooth creamy floral notes, mixed with a bit of pepper, and all supported by this luscious smoke. Smoke and incense normally dominate on my skin, here it is well behaved. It's the supporting actor, not out in front beating you about the face with burning coals.

A gentle, easy to wear oriental for summer. It does very well in the heat. And I find it wears long enough, it's not 12 hours, and you won't fill up a room (it's summer please don't do that!) but you will catch wiffs of lovely scent throughout the day. A good 5 to 6 hours on me easily makes it a great afternoon treat that takes you into the evening.

kati77

Its not cirtussy fresh, its not similar to Alien.
This is really beautiful scent. For summer it is perfect. I used Opium Vapeurs in spring, authumn, winter. But then i had a feeling oh nice nut nothing special. And now in warm months is developed to an amazing floral yet not too big floral perfume. A little bit oriental but not olis way, its oriental in frangipani and tropical island way. In this way it is to me. And still not strong, can wear it just casually.
I am sad now my sample finished nut someday will purchase it again.

marianafuzaro

An unique perfume, very exotic, that escapes from mainstream. Opens with very strong mandarin and pink pepper, then there is nutmeg and incense, and last the woody notes and patchouly. The floral notes are very subtle. I don't like to compare this with Opium or the vintage Opium because this is a whole new perfume, not intended to be a copy or a watered-down version of the former. It's intensely spicy, very sensual, mystic, a work of art on its own.

mapache

Wow...this is "different" !!! So unique, yet I am "on the fence" about this one. First of all, this one has NOTHING to do with any other Opium/Flankers ect...
This scent, IMHO, will be a "chemistry" dependent scent.
And, I will add, that that this scent cannot be judged on initial spray, because for me, the first sniff was a little off-putting..then it starts to develope nicely.
Vapeurs is a good name for this one. At first,I can sense the smokey vibe,a touch of herbalness, sour, but that dissapates for me quicky. The dry-down is the magic in this one. It then becomes more "familiar" smelling to other scents out there..(how typical). I must say, I am happy to own this step-child of the Opium line!!! She fits right into the family....somehow...and I adore the other step-child of the Opiums...Belle de Opium too

Edit: Forgot to mention...this has a good orange blossom/jasmine/nutmeg mix...especially in the dry-down...which lets me see how some people liken it to the JPG Classique...???

iamoir

Your nose doesn't have time to react in the opening of Opium Vapeurs de Parfum. Initially, there is a strong hit of the drydown from Spellbound Estee Lauder, huge spicy floral carnation and sweet peach. And there's more going on besides the spicy floral aspect. Incensey, balsamic character, the patchouli is wonderful in here, not heavy, it co-operates with the rest of incense notes: benzoin and amber very harmoniously, and a lot of florals: jasmine, orange blossom an idea of mimosa and carnation. All under the veil of incense.

It's very sensual and enchanting, with a vintage nod, well balanced, never headache inducing. Deep and satisfying. It's a pleasure to smell and get your dose; at least that's what I had been doing the day I wore it. It lingers very well on the skin and better on clothes and hair. It won't offend anyone around you.

It's the spring in Easter time, it's the scent of the orthodox church in Easter; Coco Noir almost had it, unfortunately it was more on the baroque side. OVDP is the church incense and the orange blossom blooming combination that I find very addictive.

Once I finish Classique, that is right now my orange blossom perfume rotating in my collection OVDP will take its place. And finally, don't compare OVDP with its predecessor Opium 1978 or with Opium 2009 or any other Opium, because it stands alone, it doesn't and it shouldn't smell like the initial Opium, that's not its purpose. I "understand" the general complain of the Opium 1978 fans, but this isn't the reason to dismiss all Opium flankers. Keep asking YSL to bring back your original Opium. OVDP has nothing to do with your dissapointment.

Stella Bu

I love those kinds of smells like Chanel no. 5 (in my case I prefer Eau Premiere), or Insolence by Guerlain...or this Opium...unfortunately non of my close people like it on me :)))
Maybe I am still too young for it(28)?
Well...ofcourse all the mentioned perfumes are unique and a bit different...from all of them Opium Vapeurs fits me probably the best...my boyfriend told me that I smell like his grandmother, but in his case it was not a bad reaction...he loves smell of his grandmother´s house and it reminds him of his most beautiful moments from childhood...he loves this fragrance on me but in the same time he cannot consider it sexy or romantic or anything like this cause it´s still connected with her :)She was a beautiful elegant and great woman...so definitely it is a compliment !! But I cannot wear it, as I will never smell like his girlfriend to him with this one...
Anyway if this perfume mixes with your chemistry good, it can be a great ellegant and even sexy scent. I know people who don´t react good with these kinds of perfumes and they really smell like old wardrobe then...it´s a perfume with a strong sillage, so definitely try it on your skin and see how it mixes...it can be very cold fragrance if you don´t react well together :) but it can be very clean and lovefull one if you react good...and people will always remember you :)

Another review was necessary for this one
After receiving OVDP and not caring for it,I decided not to give up on it.I gave it several chances in the last few months and It literally has grown on me.or maybe my nose has learnt to appreciate it.other possibility is that it doesn't like cold weather.when I first tried it,it was early fall but the weather was freezing cold.now it's last month of winter, but the weather is spring-like.I feel it really blooms when my skin is warm
I'm still not fond of it's opening.it opens soapy-fresh spicy.but it develops much faster than before and settles down to this classy, clean, sensual, refined scent.orange blossom is the star but it's not sharp as it's well rounded by balmy notes.now I can really smell benzoin and I'm so happy about it.It's not too resinous, too spicy or too Smokey so there's no need to worry if you're not into very balsamic scents. It's like a balsamic scent for beginners. It's one of rare incense-prominent perfumes which I can get along with
Still my experience with this perfume seems to be different with most people.a lot of reviews mention it's rich, sweet, spicy and a sillage monster on them.on me it opens like a peach-orange scented soap and settles down to a lovely, soft and clean orange flower-incense combo. I have and love JPG classique and the only thing that I find similar between them is orange flower.
It's really difficult to believe that I didn't like it before.now I love this clean floral scent with depth.longevity is very good.in my previous review,I wrote it's sillage is very weak.well,it's a soft scent and it stays close to skin but the good point is that unlike other nowadays fragrances that have very good sillage in first ten minute, then they're so faint that one can barely smell them,OVTP doesn't become faint soon.it keeps it's soft to medium projection for hours
I wish it was stronger in sillage however being heavy and loud won't fit it's gentle character.for a sweet, spicy and rich orange flower scent I'd go for serge lutens fleur d'oranger, elie saab intense or even JPG classique essence, OVDP is a gentle, calm, clean, classy and sophisticated one

Lowertownie

Was gifted this by the rep from L Oreal Lux the year it came out. At first I was not a huge fan, I was wearing the new reformed Opium, Aromatics Elixir or Shalimar at the time and could not appreciate the true depth of this stunning concoction.

Today after a week of wearing sweet white florals (White diamonds and Giorgio mostly) I decided to revisit some of the drier fumes in my wardrobe. This stuck out, standing tall on its shelf, a massive 125ml falcon. I decided to wear this for the evening and boy am I in love!

On me I get a very real zesty pink pepper note in the opening. Followed by abundant orange blossom lightly sweetened by jasmine resting on a warm base of incense and resin. Honestly stunning, this is an intimate scent lingering close to the body when worn sparingly. I sprayed quite a bit and was not overwhelmed at all, just enveloped in its warmth. I had this placed with my spring fragrances but have decided it's would be spicy enough for cool weather.

Now that it's discontinued here in Canada I'm very happy I have this in my collection. I don't tend to enjoy orange blossom, it has become all too common in feminine French perfumes, but here it is tempered perfectly with the right amount of spice. Very enjoyable yet more akin to Belle de Opium then the original.

Annabear

I have never worn Opium, not the original, nor any of the multitude of variations released since Opium launched in the late ‘70s...until now, until this fragrance.

When the original Opium was first released in Australia, and well into the ‘80’s, it was a hugely popular pervasive fragrance...that entire era smelled like YSL’s Opium. Back then, it brought to mind high powered, big shoulder-pad wielding vamps of the b@#$& breaking variety. I was probably a little intimidated by it.

Reading the reviews here before I took the plunge, it appeared that some of the die hard fans of the original Opium are disappointed by this, and that could be why those who didn’t appreciate the original loved it.

I have to say I love this, I can’t believe reviews saying it has poor longevity...sprayed at 9pm, can smell it still at 9.18 am ...12 hours wow. This is just the right amount of spice in a floral for me, although now I am tempted to revisit the original.

Beautiful. Sexy, spicy, addictive, feminine.

Well,I went through a long way to put my hands on
a bottle of opium vapeurs which is strangely nowhere to be found where I live unlike the other opium family members specially black opium and it's flankers which are pretty popular.to be honest I mostly wanted it for collecting reasons.I have belle d'opium, black opium and two of it's flankers so I felt I need this one and the original opium in my collection..but this wasn't my only reason to want OVTP so badly.I love orange blossom, amber, vanilla and benzoin.the only ones I don't like in this pyramid are pink pepper and incense.Fortunately they don't bother me here but Unfortunately the whole result is...meh,not bad.but not something I can say that I really like.I had very high hopes but it's nothing like my imaginations.unlike my thoughts,it's a light scent.I find it a great choice for office wear and formal meetings.it's also not really sweet.I can easily detect Mandarin but not in it's juicy form.on me it's a dry scent, even sort of powdery-soapy and however I usually love powdery fragrances, it's not the case here.I was looking forward to a balmy combination of creamy Jasmine and orange flower, juicy mandarin and sweet buttery vanilla with enough spicy and Smokey facets to make it even more delicious and seductive, what I got was an almost dry, almost soapy, almost light, almost woody scent of mentioned notes in a polite and even soulless way.it opens like a dry orange flavored soap and a dash of spices.later on spices calm down and I'm left with a clean orange flower and a touch of soapy Jasmine scent in a dry, woodsy base.not a bad smell by any means.but it doesn't worth all that drama to find and buy it.finally after two hours it enters a phase which I like:orange flower in a warmer base.I still can't call it creamy or balmy but I can see there's a hint of amber there
whenever I see that pale colored bottle with frosted glass,I can just think of that it 100% fits the juice inside(by the way,I hate touching frosted bottles, wish it wasn't frosted)
I'm still happy that there's nothing for me to dislike here.thanks God incense doesn't really show up on me.It's there but is light.I can easily wear it whenever I want and it's somehow classy, refined and wearable year round.longevity is very good.about 7,8 hours on skin but sillage is non existent.except it's first minutes,it's a skin scent
I wish to like it more gradually. maybe in an other time of year.however it's early fall and it seems to be best time for opium vapeurs.maybe this one and belle de opium are simply not for me

mschnabel666

I wasn't quite ready for Opium, but I have Black Opium (love) and Belle D'Opium (like)... so I grabbed this one.

And I'm disappointed. It's a nice scent/perfume, but it smells exactly like Guerlain Nerolia Bianca.

I get fresh happy orange blossom with OVdeP- and that's about it. Off the top, I do get mandarin and pepper. And then just smooooooth sweet orange blossom. No base notes. And IMO the base is what would have set this apart from Nerolia Bianca. I NEED the nutmeg, incense, resins, amber and vanilla. :(

I find nothing Oriental or Spicy about OVdeP. :( And the sillage/longevity is average.

Worth a re-try in diff weather. (Used on an average 70-80 degree summer day) It's not a bad perfume at all... I just have smelled this before in my collection. So I'll wait for diff weather and hope I get something deeper.

So guess who ordered Opium EDT now? This girl. Haha.

Very nice smell. Now this hot summer is very good for me. Reminds me of an old fragrance I loved young: Priscilla Pesley Indian Summer
In summer it does not have to be stronger. It's just as good as it is

Rosepowdery

The celebration of feminity. I have tried it today. My next purchase for sure. This is exactly what I have been searching for long. The scent which is not girlish but not mature or serious, not too macsuline but not too sweet. It was launched in 2012? I didnt expect this kind of scent the flanker of Opium could be. Luxurious sophisticated feminine scent.

Beccaru

This dries down beautifully!! Wanted this for years, managed to get 50ml for £25 from allbeauty, beautiful! Has a vintage vibe without being old lady. Suitable for both day and night I'd say, hot and colder months just go a little easier with it in the heat. LOVE!

GhostFleur

A fragrance is just not about the notes. It's the bottled experience, memory, or the fantasy that makes them so special. That is what OPIUM Vapeurs De Parfum to me.

I grew up knowing a limited concept of beauty which media portrays in the late 90's. Then I chanced upon this "diva" who changed all that. She's a glamazon!!! Modelesque but not necessarily the model type. She stands tall not with towering heights but with an immense confidence much like how this fragrance stands on her own.

An ANDROGYNOUS BEAUTY: She is both soft and strong. She was dressed in an acqua green venus cut top with its delicate fabric draping beautifully on her which the Orange blossom embodies. She may be into the latest fashion but all I know is she has that flair for the dramatic; introducing EDGE to elegance for contrast. Just like Benzoin and Nutmeg, her Victoria Winters do sans the fringe works so well with her gold bindi creating a distinct look. INDIE as it was labelled at the time.

I never got to see her again after that but she's definitely set a gold standard for me to call her my "heroine" besides my beautiful mother.

Wearing this just takes me back to that day where beauty is just simply how you define "You"!!!

EXOTIC...SPICY...a must have!!!

I love opium but not this, I´ve tried it several times but this smells like after-shave of an older gentleman. I definitely think that this is better for men. I couldn´t wear this I feel like in a barbershop smelling this. There is something sharp and unpleasant.

anilinam

If you can overcome the fact, that fragrances are now being marketed under brands that already have name recognition, such as Opium, and approach it from the perspective that this is a new scent, you'll be able to appreciate this fragrance for what it is: A poetic creation, by the MASTER perfumer that is Dominique Ropion.

Make no mistake: This delicate floriental has all the makings of a classic, were it not for the trap of it's name: "Opium". I highly recommend you take the time to test this fragrance. Pay attention to how it transitions through it's facets, from the bright peppery mandarin opening, through the dusk of it's ultra-chic, contemporary interpretation of incense at the dry-down.

Also please read Cassiano's brilliantly insightful review below.

Prijection: moderate
Longevity: 12 hours or more.

I have found a new favorite. If only my top shelf had more space!

missjosephinee

I Like it its fresh for the summer.

raiza1990

This is a very nice floral, very elegant and tranquil. It doesn´t remind me of the original Opium though. When i first sniffed it in the bottle, it smelled much spicier than when i applied it to the skin. On me, i get almost no spice.
What can i say? it is nice but unengaging.

FLORAL INCENSE

This is a strong white floral, yet a lot younger and fresher than the original opium. I'm not particularly fond of this one and it doesn't stand out in my collection. Lasting power is ok, and sillage is good. Black Opium on the other hand - magic.

LadyDi

A watered-down version of Bvlgari Omnia Indian Garnet. Sandalwood and a whiff of orange. The only reason to prefer it is you don't have to deal with opening the stupid Bvlgari flask. Not impressed.

Cassiano

The first Opium was released in 1977 and does not require presentations. It is a classic within the world perfumery, sold extensively, and has raised millions of dollars over the years. In 2009, it gained new official packaging, adapting itself to the current visual identity of the brand. The men's version only came on the market in 1995.

Since its creation, Opium has already gained numerous variations ranging from summer editions to collector’s editions. In 2012, Opium Vapeurs de Parfum came to the market, but do not be surprised if you find references with the name Opium Légère because it is sold as Eau de Toilette Légère.
The chosen perfumer, although just a few know, was Dominique Ropion and the fragrance is classified as oriental-floral. Opium Vapeurs de Parfum has notes of mandarin and pink pepper, in the head, followed by jasmine and orange blossom, in the heart, on a base of incense, amber, nutmeg, vanilla and light woods.

This version came to the market with a lot of responsibility on its shoulders, since the promise of a brighter fragrance of the dreaded and powdery Opium, from four decades ago, left thousands of fans waiting for its release. And with such expectation, there was much (very much) frustration. Besides not finding the DNA of the original version in this fragrance, there is a lot of criticism about its name's choice and the quality of the product itself. But the question I ask is: how long will people continue to believe that every flanker will be an innovative and faithful version of something that was successful one day?

All I can say is how the fragrance reacted on my skin. And I can assure that I loved how Opium Vapeurs de Parfum behaves on male skin. Basically, everything revolves around the orange blossom (with that effervescent facet that resembles cleansing product) and the incense, which confers the only powdery content that this scent has. And at this point, I can see - in a sense - a reminder of what the original Opium was, forty years ago. I can not give too much importance to the pink pepper, nor to the vanilla.

Another intriguing aspect is the sheer number of criticisms about its durability, since the fragrance lasted more than eight hours on my skin with only two sprays. Perhaps the secret is this: Opium Vapeurs de Parfum works better on men...I do not know. I only know that the final result is floral and musky, although it does not have musk in its composition, with the smell of a very well made soap, of those old and heavy (with about 200 grams) and of French origin. I really liked it!

Win,win,win!!!!
Thanks to all the great reviews by my fellow Fragranticans I would call this one of my most successful blind buys ever!
I LOVE this....
Yves Saint Laurent Opium Vapeurs was instant comfort for me. Like meeting up with a old friend you haven't seen in ages, but within minutes it's like you were never seperated. YSLOV slipped into my life just like that.
Within minutes of spraying it I was just perfectly comfortable with this perfume. Nothing edgy or sharp to make me cautious, I let my guard down and any reservations I may have had about YSLOV just flew out the window. I just let her slip into my life like a long lost, dear friend.
I adore the Orange Flower and sweet Sambac Jasmine that I first recognize after applying.
The perfect sprinkle of Pepper gives her a a noticeable, spicy depth while the Mandarin gives YSLOV the perfect touch of uplifting zest.
The incense is perfectly done, it does not overpower but does add a bit of mystery, dimension and allure.
The resins and Amber are masterfully mixed and ground YSLOV giving her a very earthy, natural punctuation.
I find everything about YSLOV just EASY if that makes sense. YSLOV slipped right in easily to my life, it's easy to wear and very easy to fall in love with.
Speaking of love...the bottle is beautiful, the color of the perfume is beautiful and thus far my entire experience with YSLOV has been beautiful which I love.
This perfume is not limited to a season in my opinion and will wear well all year.
I think it is perfect for daytime use and exquisite for evenings.
Although subtle or intimate in its nature, YSLOV packs a bit of a punch without knocking you out.
The notes in YSLOV are finely woven, it is a Sublime and Ethereal fragrance.
YSLOV is my new best friend, who wears like a long lost, and now reunited dear friend.
Perfect throw, as I get to enjoy this one, but not at all intrusive to others.
Sillage is better than average.
Like I said above, Easy is a description that just fits this sexy, gorgeous perfume.

AjaBlue

Pretty perfume. Smells a lot like JPG Classique. I was actually surprised how much so. Later, on the dry down, it developed into a completely different sent. I like it, but I don't know if I'll be purchasing a full bottle. However, it may be a nice, softer option for me as sometimes I find Classique too harsh.

velvetheart

It's an absolutely gorgeous perfume, in an absolutely gorgeous bottle, and it's the most absolutely gorgeous colour!!!! Soft, sweet, feminine and perfect!!! Just like the perfume. Absolute perfection - heaven. Totally sublime!!!!

NeveD

Although I personally think no flanker can exceed in this case the original, this '' evaporation '' I like so much.
The perfume description describes perfectly the scent. Longevity is impressive as this should be edt legere, and projection also is so good.Certainly for warmer days, especially spring.
But one is Opium, and as such is no longer produced, unfortunately.

blackempress

The most divine perfume!!! Beautiful, heavenly, superb. I love Opium Vapeurs de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent, it's so gorgeous!!! And SUCH a beautiful colour - so fem - i - nine!!!! Ladylike and elegant like the perfume. So soft and pretty, like the perfume!!! It's a wonderful wonderful delicious mandarine....the beautiful warmth and rosy fragrance of the pink pepper, the gorgeous sweet jasmine and orange flower, and the stunning base notes - so many of my favourite notes: patchouli, benzoin, vanilla, incense, nutmeg, amber and lovely woods - all so rich, creamy and deliciously spicy. The combination of all the notes, which are so beautifully blended, is superb. It's such a soft, gentle yet rich and sensual perfume - very light, luminous, and comforting. It's like a soft, downy blanket that you're all snugged up in, feeling loved and cared for. It's so beautiful. And has really good longevity and sillage - at least 12 hours, and a couple of feet. It wafts gently through the air around me, and garners me lots of compliments. It's a dream.

pavi_ne

I never particularly liked orange blossom note but this perfume is so well composed around it I can't get enough. Warm and feminine with a hint of sweetness that is not cloying. A full bottle will be mine. Soon. :)

Edit: Eight months later, I finally have the full bottle of this gorgeous juice. I have to admit the opening is a little bit harsh, almost too sour and pickle-ish on me, but after 5 minutes or so it calms down to creamy, soft yet strong concoction of orange blossom, incense and spices. It brings up thoughts of a Mediterranean holiday in a white sundress. Even though I think this is a very feminine fragrance, strangely enough I can very well imagine it also on a man. I think it might be because of the woodsy base notes. Love!

camden-girl

This is absolutely heaven in a bottle , it's floral and spicy with lotsa mandarin mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I love love love this it's amazing this is star perfume done right , I have no idea how anyone can dislike this its STUNNING and fresh fresh fresh , sparkling, yet still orange and light spice, soapy in a nice way, it's a shame it's not in an edp , but this is my favourite summer juice.

9/10 on this , would have had 11 if it just stayed a bit longer. Truth is , if you pick it up at a reasonable price , u can just pop more on during day it's a pleasure this one to spray again :)
Lorvvvve it !

i actually finished this , it needs replacing so it must be love love love ... :)

mishlava3000

Haha! This is a happy fragrance. It seems as though the smoky orange notes should produce a somber feel but they are playful and ethereal.

A tad candyish but veers more toward the sweetness of plant. The fragrance lasted a good 7 hours on my skin in the spring unlike some others reports of a short lived scent. I think this opium is just suited to me because I do tend to have longevity issues with quite a few fragrances.

Please do test as it may be cloying for you, I dont find this but I cant get enough of the scent.

DivineMuse

Wow - this is gorgeous!!! Beautiful floral, with my beloved patchouli adding an earthy zest, delicious orange and the enticing pink pepper's rosy smell; and incense melting it's gorgeous sweet woody aroma through everything. It's divine. Rich and beautifully blended. Very calming and comforting perfume. Yum!!!

chimidoro

Similar to ARMANI CODE LUNA (perhaps including a touch of KARMA BY LUSH minus the strong medicinal patchouli).

Cosy, warm, sweet, fizzy, water soluble (orange flavored) vitamin C tablets.

Lasts all day. I enjoyed a lovely snooze while donning this soothing scent.

EDIT - I just checked the base of both my Opium Vapeurs de Parfum and my Armani Code Luna to find that both state "LLC New York", and both were released in 2012. I'm pretty sure they're almost the exact same scent.

EDIT X2 - my review was based on a reformulation of this scent. I have since been lucky enough to find an original tester bottle from the release of the original formulation and the scent is (was...) beautiful as it was initially intended. I may write a review for the original but what's the point if it no longer smells that good?
Shame on you, YSL.

Eyviab

Wow this seriously smells Devine! I'm usually not into very floral perfumes but this is balanced so well with the other notes! The mix of white flowers, orange, incense, and patch makes it feel powdery with a pinch of ever so sweet deliciousness! I'm hooked! I was happy to add this into my selection but for the first time in a long time I'm thinking it will be my signature scent!

mirisfrik

Total miss for me. Just a little smoky and powdery, but very weak. After an hour or so, it is gone. Just not detectable. :(

PinkRainbow

OMG, THIS is totally AMAZING. One of a kind. Love it. Got a sample, and am ready to run out and buy the first bottle I see. Elegant, and reeks of a sophisticated lady.

fyre92

sweet airy spicy orange blossom. Not heavy but still a statement scent. Absolutely gorgeous. Somewhat in the vein to Coco mad minus the sharp patch and sweatiness. This is wonderful.............

IrisLily

I can't stop wearing it. A love for me!

beautifulchaos

I agree with the previous review... White flowers and incense. This fragrance is a funky one, and it is difficult to make out individual notes until a couple hours after the drydown. I think this is due to the strength of incense in the formulation.

The initial blast is orange incense, very similar to what can be smelled at a hippie shop. It definitely took me a few wears before I could appreciate this fragrance. The incense was overwhelming and detracted from all the other notes. Very different indeed. So much so, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Luckily third time is the charm. I find that spraying it on skin (rather than hair or clothing) helps the scent develop much better. The powdery incense is the foundation but becomes slightly less potent once the other notes emerge. The fragrance lasts practically all day on my skin. After a couple of hours you can really detect the white florals, the amber, and a faint sweetness from patchouli and vanilla. I detect another spicy-like powder note that I am certain is nutmeg.

Opium Vapeurs is the perfect cool weather scent. It can best be described as a warm, powdery oriental. I couldn't imagine wearing it in warm weather. There's just not enough of a floral aspect to it. It's unique in formulation but nothing like the original Opium. Test it out first just to be safe.

IrisLily

This was a blind buy for me, and I love it! I am not sure what all I am smelling (other than white flowers (which I love) and incense, but it is a mish-mash of interesting scents that work well together and are unlike anything else I have. It also lasts a long time. I don't have the pre-existing love affair with Opium to be biased against it, and I also really like Belle D'Opium which is a grapier version of this one, so I can enjoy it without any expectations.

Edemay

Surprised me, i was expecting something more dark and warm,
but this is light and fresh.
It kind of reminds me of a lighter more citrusy version of lola.
I think its a nice everyday scent.
Its not too mature either.
Something else i found really nice in this scent is that the notes smell so realistic and aren't synthetic smelling at all.
I pick up the smell of burning incense and fresh mandarines.

edit: the dry down smells just like the frankincense they burn in church. But only if you put your nose to your skin.

Meredithleegrace

Delicate spicy... Not too sweet ... Not to fruity... Nor too floral ,,,, just right. Once I get my bottle this will be my everyday scent. Perfect for layering too. Not a signature but a well loved everyday scent.

meliecat

I fell in love with this `new Opium` instantly - although I`d rather classify as woody or citrus than floral! An elegant fragrance, the incense and the orange blossom are quite dominant, but you can discover all the other notes in their own time as well, and there is a lingering cypress note in it - maybe it`s just me thinking? I find it great for any season, although it`s not a really heavy, spicy scent and also quite long-lasting.

freddinos

Somewhat 'cold' smellind incence-neroli combination. The pink pepper also makes it more aromatic and quite feminine. Its opening was quite glorious, with the drydown not standing up to par in my opinion.
A better interperetation of this could be Seeet Redemption By Kilian, albeit heavier on the orrange blossom with less incense.
Nice if this is your kind of fragrance palette, but not my style.
Does not bring to mind the original Opium at all, a good thing for me personally.

MyersAlice

I basically only smell the pink pepper, incense and the nutmeg, I can't smell anything else.
Too strong and spicy for me.

Marco<3

Semplicemente divino, profumo primaverile estivo di classe.
Ottimo.

Shoshi

Why doesn't this seem to be available in the U.S.? I haven't seen it anywhere.

CoconutCoffee

This smells like cheap incense cones bought from a 'hippy shop' by young students to perfume their bedsits and by old people to relive the 1960s. It's fantastic as an olfactory portrait of said students/old drop-outs but bizarre as a perfume from a luxury brand. I can't reconcile the incongruity.

The frag generates a cloud that smells very bright and 'hardly there' which reminds me of watered-down White Patchouli by Tom Ford and blasting through it is a dominating note which reminds me of Fair Trade craft items imported from India. I think this is meant to be jasmine. I get nothing that suggests any form of orange or pepper until hours after application when my skin has a faint whisper of spiced orange that reminds me of herbal tea.

When you can buy a gallon vat of 'jasmine oil' for use as perfume or room freshener and a million 'jasmine' incense cones for less than a small bottle of this fragrance and get exactly the same effect why buy YSL?

I am not saying this is bad. I think if you like jasmine you'll enjoy this. You will know it is YSL and you'll feel confident wearing it. But many people around you will think you are wearing £1.99 scented oil from Oxfam or have been burning a lot of cheap incense cones in your student/OAP bedsit. I think you need to decide if you want to spend more than you have to in order to smell cheaper than you deserve?

Chelsea1605

What a beautiful, light, soft floral. Unfortunately it doesn't last long on my skin though

Museumgal

Light soft florals with a whisper of powdery smoke. Just a hint of spices. A good office or daytime opium flanker, but it is very light and not as distinctive as the original. The incense isn't as strong either so it doesn't say opium to me. Lovely balanced composition though the notes are well blended and don't overwhelm.

margarita.angelova

This went on my wishlist before I even knew what it was, the minute I smelt it on my... grandmother.
This scent is amazing, very rich, warm and sensual and unlike anything I've tried so far (I don't know what the original Opium is like; I've only tested Black Opium which I dislike and this one). I find it more suitable for evening events during fall and winter. So classy!

AnnaT

I note a very strong resemblance between this and Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial (came out in March 2011)! Looking at the notes, they share orange, jasmin and vanille in common.

Edit: the above review was written in Summer. In autumn, Opium Vapeurs desn't smell like Shalimar P.I. any more. No vanille but some bitter note that is suggestive of tea becomes prominent. Sillage however is much reduced.

julmax

Lovely soft vanilla with fleeting cardamom. I used it in winter and loved it. Also loved the fact that you can see it going down in the bottle. I have lots of bottles and like to see levels going down, I want to be able to finish at least some bottle in my lifetime.
Was able to put my hands on another bottle today so tried it again a few months after the last use - still love it. Very soft and lady-like. I think it suits a wide age range, from a younger to a very old lady.
Today's bottle will go for a swap but my original will be definitely a prominent star in my winter rotation.

thesheppardess

Top notes don't stand a chance to register with me. It's straight to the resins and other notes that don't sit well with me.
Imagine two notes being played at the same time, like C & D, or the first couple of bars of the old piano tune "chopsticks". Well that is the best way I can describe this frag. Jarring.

Angela Agiannidou

I tried this today and later caught myself enjoying whiffs of pure, unadulterated spicy resins mixed with orange blossom and a light and delightful vanilla. Pure love! I want this! It is feminine yet the depth of spices and resins keep it unisex and though warm and deep it would equally suit daywear! I can imagine this working beautifully in Winter. The jasmine note is less pronounced to my nose. This is a flanker very worth buying! Stunning!

hippiechick13

All I get with this, is a blooming orange blossom that dries down into more orange blossom with the faintest accent of jasmine. It's nothing like the original except for perhaps the smokiness and warmth.

camden-girl

wow im sooo lucky got a real 120ml of this on ebay with 50ml still left sent 4 -9 pounds !! i needed a bargain i never ever get one usually ever- so either way no bother if i never liked it-omg its really beautiful, classy and much more softer than opium original ,i,m 39 again so purrrfect 4 my age as this is not a young girls sugar sent at all but mmmm spice and manderin whats not to like, roll on summer ! :) now i want to try Alien as a reviewer below said its similar !

Edit: this is nothing like alien I now own 2 versions of that beautiful fragrance similar they are not !

I used it all up and am a looking for a new bottle so yep I LOVED this soft spiced summer opium. Even the hubby loves this one bless him ;)

kaejuntun

I was hunting through my too-large perfume collection, trying to set some fragrances aside to get rid of, and I came across my bottle of Opium Vapeurs de Parfum. I bought it almost two years ago now because of the prominent orange blossom and the fact that it was combined with some very interesting notes (and had quite a few very positive reviews) - I tried it right when I got it, tested it, didn't like it, and set it aside.

A few years down the road I decided to give VdP another test. I initially got tons of thick incense and smoke combined with sweet citrus and pepper, very overwhelming, the same as I remembered from the first time I smelled it. This time, though, I stuck it out. Eventually the oppressive, thick blanket of scent tamed and I got small hints of orange blossom and jasmine. For me it was the olfactory equivalent of drawing back heavy draperies and opening a window in a hot, humid room in the middle of the day in the summer. All the weight gave way to an airy lightness with just the memory of smoke weaving occasionally around the white floral notes. I actually found myself sniffing my wrist appreciatively at this stage.

I may have to try VdP many more times before I can say without hesitation that I like it, but I definitely could see myself getting used to it down the road, maybe even really liking it. I cannot imagine wearing this perfume in the summer, though. This strikes me as more of an evening fragrance, even wearable in the winter due to the warmth and spice.

pravda48

Yea, this reminds me of Alien: unfortunately it has the same jasmine quality (very sweet, almost has a thick sticky texture in my perception) that kinda turns my stomach for some reason. I think Alien fans will like it but it's not for me! So happy to receive a sample in a swap since it saved me a bad blind buy.

ETA: it also reminds me of Fendi's discontinued and much-sought PALAZZO edp from a test of that one currently! Maybe worth a try for those seeking it.

selenium_m

Very comforting and refined scent. An ace for the lovers of white florals, but not for the fans of gourmets since it has a bit of "coldness" to it. Incense gives it that lovely "old school" note, which, again is not everyone's cup of tea. In case you're a fan of Infusion d'Iris, Ellie Saab or even Alien, take this on a test drive.

Ahlamsarah

I expected a lighter version of opium or belle d'opium but this one is cloying to the nose, the incense and the orange blossom notes in this are very strong & not delicate at all, too bad i was excited about it but it's definetly not for me despite my love to strong perfumes.
Actually i had a colleague who annoyed everybody with her powerful, not suitable to work perfume and when I smelled this, i finally knew what she was wearing.

FunkyTomo

Opium Vapeurs is a gorgeous, ladylike , heavenly perfume. I have now used up my 125ml bottle and I will be buying again come spring 2015 ready for the summer months. This scent smells like bottled summer , sunshine , carefree happy days on the beach. Yes theres lots of perfumes in that category , but this one exudes such a classy grown up vibe , it immediately stands apart from the glut of sickly sweet "summer" scents.

It is floral , warm , fresh and uplifting and just one of those scents that gives me a very happy and relaxed feeling.

Love love love this stuff !!

I've worn this almost every day through the summer (now gone as is my precious Opium juice). I sprayed some on from the tester in Boots the other day and I was taken back to my summer beach holiday , lazy days sunbathing and humid heady nights out drinking cocktails , the whopping heavy 125ml bottle accompanied me everywhere on that hol , as I enjoy the scent so much.

. On the subject of longevity , I was impressed how well this scent lasts on the skin and clothes , after all it is a "light" version. I thought it lasted very well. I only needed to top it up once while out and about , and if it had not of been so hot and humid , I wouldnt of needed to reapply at all.

As with all my fave perfumes that pass my personal "tests" of smell/longevity/compliment getters , Opium Vapeurs garnered me many compliments from both sexes. Many young ladies who complimented me were surprised that this very modern , fresh but warm scent was anything to do with "original opium" , ( which much of the younger mainstream perfume wearers do not like). Hopefully some of those young ladies will go and purchase it and ( i hope) that Opium Vapeurs will live on and not suffer the dreaded "discontinuation".

Ideally this scent is suited to spring /summer , but Id like to see how it reacts on my skin in the cold English winter too. Im in 2 minds whether to buy a new btl now , or do without until next year , as I am very short on perfume ATM and need to get some new winter scents for the cold months ahead ( Hello Poison wearing weather).

Id say to all to give this perfume a try/test , no matter if you are a lover or hater of the original "Opium" , as this scent is a distant relation only , completley different...Not one of those flankers thats "samey" or too close to the original. Nope....OV stands alone as a great scent.

PS - I was lucky to get the 125ml bottle from my fave local perfume bargain shop. Testers that come in a plain BnW box. It only cost me £35. However this stuff is THAT good IMO , that Id be happy to pay the full price next time if I have to. Fingers crossed i can get another bargain btll , as I need this scent for next summer!

miZZpuRRfect

incredibly nice adult elegant orange blossom perfume, longlasting and sexy. my husband loves it on me, even on hot weather very perfect. it stays with me for an entire day from morning to bedtime. perfect !

Dawndelights

Second try very strong on the Orange blossom like classique is, but very different to each other, not so much vanilla in the opium vapours but a lot of incense

jessbug

I received this bottle in a very happy swap. To my nose, Opium Vapeurs de Parfum is a powdery, slightly smokey orange blossom with a persistent dash of citrus that hangs around for the entirety of the perfume's (quite long) lifespan on my skin.

Now, looking at the notes, it seems I missed a great many of them. However, try as I might, this is all that Opium Vapeurs smells like to me. And it's lovely! It may sound simple, but it's not boring and it's unlike any other perfume I know. There's just something really grown-up and classy about this, but in a way that seems targeted at twenty/thirty-somethings.

Opium Vapeurs de Parfum actually reminds me of Guerlain's Parfum Initial. Not because they smell the same, but because they both exude a type of classy, 'ladylike-ness', that I want to portray but that just doesn't feel like me (yet?).

I'll just keep wearing them, waiting for the day I won't feel like an imposter anymore :P

Dawndelights

This is lovely and creamy made me think of organza givenchy, may be it's the nutmeg and vanilla, but not so strong. Vapours wafting up from the incense but soft not sufficating or overly spicy thankfully, beautiful and feminine fragrance, on my want list

Littlegrassstraw

I am not usually into very heavy perfumes so this may be my kind of floriental. I really like this perfume. If only it would have a little bit more spice it would be perfect! The base is a bit of a generic smelling oriental mix (at least I have smelt the same in a cheap but fairly nice leathery oriental perfume) but the spice is a perfect addition which adds that edge to the smooth, sweet, a bit heavy and a bit fruity base. I thought the spice was cinnamon but seeing the notes it must be nutmeg. Every time I got an extra whiff of that spice the mix smelt perfect but unfortunately it was really only sporadic whiffs I got.
It is a very nice scent that keeps me sniffing:) Projection and longevity is perfect for me, noticable but not overpowering and reasonably long lasting.
I cannot really comment much on the drydown as the evening was spent at a camp fire:) But I did seem to find more intense insence/smoky smell on my wrist than anywhere else!
I have not tried the original Opium. I think this is a delicious floriental summer evening scent for people who like warm, sexy scents but not overly heavy, sweet or gourmand.
Edit: After a paper strip test of the original I can confidently say I much prefer this more flowery and fruity scent to the heavy and boozy original.

Emma0714

Oh. My.
This. Is. Good. Stuff.

First whiffs off this is "citrus-y", but on the sweeter side. Mandarin, satsuma, orange. Mixed with pink pepper, almost the same sort of mix as in Chanel Chance eau Fraiche, but not as "lemony-fresh" More, "floraly-spicy-sweet-fresh" (at the same time?! - yes)

Then it blends in to a sensual mix of sambac jasmine, orangeblossom and incense. Oh yes yes yes.

It's sensual, smoky, fresh, soapy and romantic.

It's not as spicy-smokey as the name wants me to feel like though. But, this might be what the opium-smoking flapper-girl would smell like after taking a bath and then going to sleep in fresh linen while the sun sets.

Mooniq

Soft but not skinclose. Wonderful softspicy to my skin. Fresh flowernotes dances in background. I never liked the Original Opium - find it hard to breath when Opium is near - But this flanker - my God its gooood! Its not loud - but its there - and I love those scents that lingers around for several hours and give small wiffs now and then..

Mjuk men inte riktigt hudnära - men nästan. Superfin mjukkryddig på min hud. Fräscha blomnoter dansar i bakgrunden. Jag gillade aldrig originalet Opium - får svårt att andas när Opium är i närheten - men den här - wow - den är inte högljudd men den är där, runt dig för många timmar och ger små doftpuffar lite då och då.

napiergirl

LOVE THIS ...but wait..is it bad to spray this with another parfum....what are the rules with blending...because i just discovered THIS ...with another..(miss dior)..IS AMAZING....who else blends 'THIS WITH THAT' because the results can be stunning .Is it rude or part of the enjoyment of fragrance to experiment...let the experiments begin I say.

Yosa

I did not have a good first impression of Opium Vapeurs. I smelled it on my wrist and my immediate reaction was: "NO WAY!"

And so I focused examining the original Opium instead, on my other wrist.

After about 15 minutes or so, I accidentally smelled the Vapeurs again - the smell had started to change, to clear up - for the better! I went from "NO WAY" to "Hmmmm"...

From there on it was interesting to observe the scent transform, from something so unpleasant to something so pleasant.

Opium Vapeurs is close to the original Opium - however, it is NOT as heavy! Opium Vapeurs is heavy in its own way too, with the same undertones, but it has a more floral scent.

Vapeurs is like a summer version of the original Opium. It is a rather captivating exotic floral experience.

The price in mind, the longevity of this fragrance could be better!

ancaan

I love this! Beautiful blend of orange, pink pepper, incense and jasmine. Totally different from what I usually like, but this one obsessed me from the first sniff. It has a provocative and mysterious vibe. It's not for teen girls, it's for a sexy, mature and confident woman. I literally can't stop sniffing my arm and when the wind softy blows, magic happens! This will be my next purchase for sure!

Angel in the South

I use to wear the original Opium way back in the 70`s. That was a very `here I am` in the room kind of perfume so I was very surprised when I tested this one. I would never wear the original Opium any more but I do love this version.
Orange Blossom, Incense, Jasmine, Nutmeg, Pink Pepper, these are just some of my favourites in a perfume.
Silage and longevity are very good as well. It lasted 8 hours on my skin and 3 days on my jacket. A winner for the coming Spring and Summer.

death_by_water

I can really see this becoming one of my vacation fragrances, since it is so fresh and delightful, while keeping a firm personality. It smells of fresh mandarins and neroli and it has a slightly peppery character, all that added on a lovely incense base. My skin tames the perfume and makes it powdery and soft, just the way I like it. I think I will buy a full bottle for the summer.

Oh, and the colour is divine!

Hellita

Interesting... I like it!

Alexandre

Delicious for summer, a blend of citrus, floral oriental background incensed over a ... Looks like you're crushing the flowers in hand, so natural that Opium Vapeurs can be ... Becoming well unique ... Although softer, have a good projection ... Does anyone know if this is a special edition?

anniemaria

This is just like a dream to me.

A soft, gentle dream. It's feminine, but not girly. It's young, but not immature. Sensual, but not sexual. I feel so at ease when I wear it, it's powdery and spicey with just a hint of vanilla. It's a perfect match for my skin and personality, I wear it on any occasion.

flowerpwrz91

Love this perfume. Light and Spicy.
Why is this perfume not on the YSL website? Anybody know?

blueviolet

I cannot decide if this smells sophisticated or like a lemony cleaning product. I suppose the answer is right there. But not a bad cleaning product. A sophisticated cleaning product.

svetlana.marochko.5

It really reminds me Chanel 19 Poudre. Chanel is more intensive in terms of green notes and powdery base, but this YSl is similar in its top notes. It is my opinion.

NicoleO

A delicately spiced feminine fragrance. Jasmine and nutmeg are two of my favorite notes. The incense is subtle (just the way I like it) and the citrus not strong either. Nothing about this perfume is overpowering. I find it soft, warm and alluring. It's also a rarity as I have not found many spiced/oriental fragrances that would work well in summer, but this one sure would. It is definitely 'Love' and I want a BIG bottle now!!
It is a shame this beautiful fragrance can't be appreciated on it's own merits, as it really can't be compared to the original.
I noticed it's not on the YSL site. Is this a limited edition then?

MademoiselleMaya

It needs to be worn to be appreciated, it does not delight you when you test it on your wrist for some reason, but applied globally - oh my, it greats you with a juicy mandarine and soft orange blossom seamlessly blended with jasmine and pink pepper. Then there is the underlying smokiness and warmth, it's creamy and delicately spicy but the freshness of orange makes it versatile. Yummy.
Excellent longevity - 12 + hours on me.

Ascarlett

I like the smell of Opium, I like Belle D'Opium and I like Opium Fleur de Imperiale - Soo, I bought this as a blind buy on Ebay. It was new and in the package.

Oh my gosh how it stinks! Not in a good way. It doesn't smell a thing like Opium. In fact, it doesn't even smell like perfume. It just smells like chemicals. Maybe some kind of cleaning product. Or, actually, it smells just like RAID, the insect killer.

And it is more than just my chemistry, because I tried smelling it just in the bottle and spraying it on just clothing as well and it smelled just the same.

Yuck!! Beware - smell before you buy.

Jonayla

First, I hate original Opium, never ever thought I bought something name Opium. :D But this changed my mind. I would have never tried if it had been on sale. Thank you sale tag this nailed it. After a long time I finally smelled something very unique. For me this is quite heavy, but I`m huge jasmine fan and that is what I smell the most. Floral, warm and little bit spicy. Last for ages on my skin. I think this is more evening scent than day. Only one spray is enough!

bebekesasar

The first spritz, I quickly recalled Aqua di Parma Colonia Essenza men. Both this and AdP Colonia Essenza have a hair tonic kind of smell. But Opium VdP is less sharp, thus making it more beautiful. The citrus is light and fresh. The scent itself is a mature one, but this dearest flanker of Classic Opium doesn't smell old, or vintage. It can be worn by anyone, I think. The incense is hiding slightly behind the refreshing orange blossom. Quite spicy and safe for newbies, or your friends who hate classics.

Gabba

Unfortunately it's too similar to its classic version for me... I imagined this fragrance much differently, I don't feel any incense here and orange blossom too - on my skin it's the only heavy jasmine and this fragrance is far away from any light summer version and freshness. It's the real "breathtaker" in the wrong meaning of this word. :/
However, the bottle is - as always - beautiful.

dormir6

The fragrance and the bottle are good match! Perfect summer smell and quite unique. Flowery but not sweet, fresh but not aquatic. First you can meet a very potent citrus and orange flower cloud, that is refreshing in a strange way. It is loud but untouchable, like a beautiful woman, an eye-candy. Elegant, young, delicate and luxurious. It is so unique in the recent gourmand-floral-patchouli parfume world. It's light as a soft veil but strong as confident and lasting.
Very well done!!!!!

wei.xia

It smells unique.

Yesterday I went to the perfume store and have a lot of trials. But only this and Midnight Fancy impressed me.

I tried the original one, which is totally different from this one. The BA suggested me to buy this one as she thought it suits my age better.

It smells good and very lady-like. Much sweeter and younger than the original one.

However, no every one around you can tolerate this smell...It is so outstanding and overtaking... A man could feel very uncomfortable with you.

It doesn't last long.

Tam

Very pretty and lightly smelling white floral/spice fume but - on my skin - pretty much gone in 20 mins and my other half says he does not smell it either so it isn't just my nose has become accustomed to it. Agreed with other reviewers that there appears to be little - if zero - resemblance to the 1970s spicey original. Belle De Opium lasts much better on my skin. Don't get me wrong, this is a lovely perfume but just frustrating in its lack of longevity.

missk

Opium and her subsequent flankers appear to have gone through some major changes over the years. The original formula of Opium was a spicy, rich oriental. However the modern interpretation as we know it today, is much softer and more of a crowd pleaser. As a result, flankers such as, Belle d'Opium and Opium Vapeurs de Parfum, are not really spicy orientals at all. They have little to no relation to the spicy Opium from the by-gone era.

The only spices to be found in this composition, come in the form of pink pepper, (which is so zesty and sour that it could be mistaken for pineapple), and powdered nutmeg. Opium Vapeurs de Parfum is a surprisingly subdued floral, wearing almost like a skin-scent.

First of all, I love the bottle. It was such a shame that I didn't enjoy the scent enough to buy it. I would have loved to have displayed that powder pink bottle on my dresser.

I'm quite a fan of orange blossom in perfume, however the orange blossom note in Opium Vapeurs de Parfum struck me as a little synthetic. The floral notes in general were mildly soapy, with the nutmeg creating a smooth, musky blend on the skin.

I sprayed Opium Vapeurs de Parfum on my left wrist and walked around the shopping centre sniffing it occasionally. I found it pleasant but nothing outstanding. It's not worth the YSL price tag, at least not in my opinion.

Opium Vapeurs de Parfum is such a blasé fragrance. The projection is like a whisper on the skin, with the lasting strength being quite poor also. Not impressed. Opium is starting to lose its charm.

Joeysgirl

If Jean Paul Gaultier and Coco Mademoiselle ever got together, this would be their love child.

Boasting the same heady florals and vanilla, but like a rebellious teenager, she's brooding with her spicy dry down and sexy incense base. I usually prefer my florals with powder or musk in the final phase and tend to steer clear of Vanilla, if it's overdone, it works against me - too cloying on my skin. Despite sporting quite a few heavy notes in it's repertoire, Vapeurs has a smack of freshness that I adore, nothing is overdone here. No specific note is dominant, they all work together in perfect harmony. I DO find that it is a little remiscent of the original on my skin, but it's not as demanding & heavy - it's a warm, soft uplifting spice that is very sensual and alluring, with the addition of the white flowers and citrus.

Lasting power very reasonable for an EDT. I'm not judgemental with the whole EDP's outlast EDT's. I believe every perfume works differently on every person and that what lasts on some, may dissipate on others. Take JPG Classique EDT for example - it's a silage BOMB!!!

I think it's the incense that helps maintain the longevity. I bask it's glory from morning till evening, getting delightful little whiffs of it all day long, as I move through my busy day. Unlike some reviewers, I LOVE that it doesn't smell exactly like the original Opium, I could never quite pull that off, as much as I loved it on other women. I don't understand the need for people to want it to be like the original, we don't need another! Original is sombre, vampy and in your face.Vapeurs is what it is - Opiums flirty, vivacious, but refined little sister.

It is reminiscent of other scents on the market, yes - but it does have it's own identity and appeal. I realised I was smitten when, every time I walked past this scent in the store, I would spray myself with it and for the rest of the day and night felt so beautiful. That is exactly how I want to feel when I wear my perfume, and this one loves me back. I'm declaring my undying affection for this beauty, she's won my heart - I feel a signature scent coming on. Thank you YSL for a gorgeous Floriental and a bottle design that steals the show as she adorns my dresser - Winner!!

napiergirl

A stunning beginning with citrus and jasmine ...hard to pick individual notes because they work in synergy ...cant stop smelling my wrist ,and as it develops I get cozy and elegant incense notes.I just love this , oriental but fresh ..love ,love ,love .

zvoncica

Opium Vapeurs is feminine and elegant perfume. Beautiful oriental floral, fresh as many reviews here state, but not meaning citric or light. Vapeurs is fresh like smell of flowers in a large living room, the room is full of light and all the walls are slightly rose in color.

It's a smell of mandarin blossom mixed with incense, so light yet edgy. It reminds me of beautiful spring, family lunches and mirrors with golden frames. Smells like afternoon tea in spacious gardens, family fights and wooden chess board.

Reminds me on Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on Hot Tin Roof.
It is awaiting of future, mysterious, tempting and bright.
So beautiful and vivid.

Juma

Beautiful, beautiful fresh, clean spicy, incency fragrance- another YSL that suits to my chemistry perfectly.I love citrusy incence mixture so georgeus surounded with white flowers where orange blossom dominates.

Certainly reminds to Opium, which is not my can of coke.
Like Opium on a spring diet!

divadani

First of all, this is not Opium. It bears no resemblance to the 1977 perfume called Yves Saint Laurent Opium, or any of its subsequent reformulations.

With that out of the way, I actually don't mind it. It has almost a fizzy quality, with the orange blossom sparkling on a bed of incense. The incense isn't a heavy, churchy incense - but rather something that you would smell on a gust of wind. The perfume in general has a very breezy quality, forming a pleasant, light fragrance, perfect for spring/summer. I wouldn't classify it as a particularly sexy, femme fatale fragrance (like its namesake). It's more of a day/office fragrance, or for those that prefer the lighter fragrances in general. Weak to medium lasting power on the skin.

Radchick

I don't find any similarity to the original Opium. Vapeurs is mostly orange blossom, with an underlying note of citrus, and hints of incense and spice. I think a person needs to ignore the supposed relation to Opium and assess this on its own merits, rather than make a comparison. They are completely different. This is a sweet and powdery floral, and I like it quite a bit.

L'Arlesienne

Nothing fresh to my nose, just a strong, chemical smell of bath freshner... I fie not like the original and I totally dislike this one , too. It is hard to me to understand what is fresh in this! It is heavy, artificial and headache inducing. Sorry, no!

BeautifulDynamite

So fresh and clean...hardly something I expected from a fragrance with the name "Opium" on the bottle. Sadly, it's not as long lasting as I would've hoped.

Still lovely, though :) Not overwhelming, just right.

Green Jade

Don't look anything like the original Opium, which I consider too strong for me ... This is more catchy, light, youthful, fresh petals and white roses in the air ...

100mlEDT

Yves Saint Laurent, Opium Vapeurs de Parfum 2012. Citrus accords from the Mediterranean including mandarin and orange blossom, 'fragrant fumes' waft from the tender salmon pink bottle that was once home to super elixir Opium.  Oriental citrus incense becomes gentle and caressing. Pink pepper in the opening give it initial sparkle, orange blossom and mandarin take it up a notch for a more enveloping  sillage. The Vapeurs edition has  less spice than the original and is thankfully low on the sugary calories , you can't go wrong.

suzisabella

I asked my brother to buy me Opium or Midnight Poison for Christmas, and this is what he came home with. I didn't notice that it wasn't actually Opium until after I'd opened it. Now I've got this huge bottle of EDT that's precisely the type of perfume I don't like - white florals and citrus just smell sharp and unpleasant on me.
The shop assistants probably impressed upon him that in the summer months you "need" a light, "fresh" perfume. No.

Guess I just have to put Opium back on my wishlist.

vivik

Finally I have it too, it´s heaven as previous reviewers said, like neroli and incense ideal encounter, l´Agent sinking into neroli and stuff...I am literally bathing in it, hope the passangers on public transport won´t faint...

evacecilias

Finally its mine !
- and I´m in seventh perfume heaven !!
Just got this by mail, tried it twice on paper since summer and just knew this is a smellME scent...
The red pepper and mandarin makes just such a beautiful entry, but there are lots to come..., speak about notes they blend and wipe the floor fo every new note making its announcement. The jasmine and orange flower are probably creating that Alien touch I get, but its the top and base that are most prominent on me.
It is quite heavy , so maybe not for every day use on everyone...
so I will put it on early in the morning getting myself ready for the day.
What great sillage and longevity too !
Of course it has vibes from the "old" opium flankers but this is a lot fresher and has its own tone.
I would say it is an Alien with incense and spice , if that makes any sence ?
I´ll tell you one thing , if I wasn´t such a decent girl I wouldn´t have written this review , telling you all about my new love, keeping it for myself...
but I know you all out there are craving for next love, next new signature.... -- so what can a perfume lover do but tell every perfumista whats her new love is, and letting you all try it for yourself !
This is it... - my new secret so don´t tell anyone , ok ?

Update: picked this up again for fall months and it was dismissed by my husband this morning...soo sad.He rarely says something about my perfumes other than good. But this has to go....

cherry_lips

First of all I have to say that I'm not a vanilla fan when comes to perfumes, BUT this one changed my mind. I've tested it yesterday on a blotting paper and I couldn't stop sniffing it. It is so well balanced, very classy, almost intoxicating scent.I have to have it.

vivik

I´ve tried it yesterday at Sephora "overflowing" with many other fumes being tested by pre-Christmas busy shoppers which rendered all the fragnances I´ve tested almost indiscernible until I´ve tried Vapeurs, this one nailed it, so pronounced, elegant, sexy, balmy, beautiful, powerful vapor indeed.

allyendawn

Almost hypnotic! Feels like heaven!

cherie97

This one is truly elegant & young opium. It is warm and spicy, such a nice smell. Smells a bit oriental, unusual. On my skin it's pretty heavy, not for everyday use, needs this special occasion. I like it very much, much better than the other from the Opium family. Could be my purchase in near future. Wearing this one, I feel sexy and sophisticated in some way. Thumbs up, YSL!
(my Fiancee likes it too, he says it smells sexy)

BillieNicole

To me, this perfume is a lighter and more everyday version of the original Opium- and it's fantastic! It has some of characteristics of Opium, but lighter and balmier than the original. It still smells very exotic and still is very strong, which I like.

busik

Something strange! Opium is not that we are used to. Probably I should long to smell, look for notes ... But, I do not even want to guess, a dusty, light cologne. Doily immediately flew into a bin in the store

antonpan

Opium Vapeurs de Parfum is lighter and more wearable version of regular John Galliano Eau de Parfum. The John Galliano has a unique and extremely beautiful incense note that makes the fragrance sophisticated. In Yves Saint Laurent they took this incense accord and surrounded it by a lighter and generic fruity powdery veil. Nonetheless the result is nice as well.

monamonib

iwas in the airport trying many perfumes when isaw this perfume and my hand was full with other perfumes so isprayed it on my sleeves and ihang my clothes and forget it next da ysame cloth iwear there was nice smell ido not from where itried to remember and it was that opium and the thirde day it was also there with
same sillage although idid not smell first day so it will be my next purchase for sillage and longtivity
please who said this version is not long lasting it is more than long lasting the new thing iwant to add that this perfume has different smell depend on the type of clothes you wear itried on my cotton clothes and stays about three days and give me beautiful smell and itried on fiber clothes it stays for two weeks but the smeel was sharp and keep on going with the same tone never get lower thanks for reading

emiana

I love this perfume...I can feel the incense note...very well

bond_girl1979

I feel as though they created this version simply for the (predominantly younger) crowd who invariably whinge about the original being too heavy, strong or "old lady" in presence. This is a much lighter, fresher and modern take on the original. To me, it was exotic and powdery, quite summery and fresh, but wound up taking on the feel of an interesting smelling soap. Lasting power wasn't fantastic, but better than some edps out there on the market. Average - moderate appeal, but will quickly lose it's audience when the summer months are over.

L'eaulita

The trick with this one is to try and disassociate it from the name "Opium". Vapeurs opens up with vivacious and unbridled citrus, orange blossom and the juice of smooshed up jasmine flowers. A healthy dose of pink pepper to spice things up and you've got yourself an almost unisex, vaguely soapy, damn good perfume. The nutmeg and incense doesnt come into play until much further down the track, by which stage sillage is waning. Longevity is surprisingly good, in fact its actually a bit strong at the start and could be overhwhelming if you got too trigger happy. Definitely reminds me of the old Priscilla Presley fragrance Indian Summer- extremely similar, but Vapeurs is a tad fresher.

beccis80

A lot of negatives on this one... I feel the opposite! The original Opium feels really old-lady-like, so at first I did´nt really have an interest of trying this. But since the bottle kind of appealed to me, I did anyway. And I was happily surprised! A mysterious, sexy, soft scent that feels younger than the original...

ambersuz

Tested this one out today and am in love! It smells like incense and musky sandalwood but the jasmine, vanilla and oranges give it a feminine flair. It's not too heavy or overpowering, just a gentle breeze of incense. I love the smell of Hemp shops and this one captures that glorious smell fantastically! Will be purchasing this one.

AveParfum

I am a lover of Opium. Unlike many others, I feel YSL is making some much-needed changes in order to bring the Opium empire into the 21st century and connect with the people of today. Newsflash--The 70's Are Over! Vapeurs is a wonderful addition to the Opium family as a "Legere" sister of Opium. I was excited to try this perfume because the notes indicated it could be heavy on orange blossom and jasmine with a warm, softly spiced base. Opium Vapeurs delivers on its promise.

When I first sprayed, I smelled a lot of orange or tangerine. After 10 minutes I smelled the back of my hand again and was shocked at how much it had changed. It became much less citrusy and gained a significant amount of nutmeg and white florals. Another ten minutes went by, and BAM, it was exactly what I'd hoped for--sandalwood, nutmeg, vanilla, jasmine, and incense. Something about it is a tad masculine, which is quite sexy in my eyes.

I spent the afternoon at a charming cafe today. A warm, barely noticeable summer breeze would drift by, carrying the most beautiful scent with it. I looked around and saw a wall full of jasmine nearby. Opium Vapeurs has the same effect with regard to scent and projection. It's quite magical! It's as though I never left the cafe.

Like its namesake, this perfume's drydown is worth the wait. It's a delicately spiced perfume. It tickles the senses and makes the perfect summer oriental.

Namyra

I don't like it at all. It's just an intrusive, heavy, sickening and old-fashioned perfum. I really can't stand it.

Update after some years: I like this very much, its old-fashioned aura really intrigues me now.

beatrix75

first opium parfum which I love very much and I'd i want to buy it !!!super feninine luxury elegant oriental-flover becoze i feel the oriental smell there somewhere .Its sooo much good kvalite so long lasting and special its sooo much everithing i want now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

la tailleuse

I LOVE this!, and I also like the "old" (heavy?) Opium!
So to all lovers of the old an haters of the new version... It's possible to love them both!
I think it's mature, feminine, balmy, fresh, and sensual at the same time.
I think you can wear it anytime, anywhere... People ask me what I wear, and not because they think I smell Like Hell!! haha but because they like it its suits me.
it is not just another fragrance, I find it a unique delicious perfume.

Getting acquainted with a scent is exciting, surprising, a journey of discovery and sometimes disappointing .... It is one of my favorite things to do and sometimes you hit a small treasure.
Vapeurs de parfum van YSL is such a treasure, I call it deliberately no opium, because I think it has its own personality and it is no small sister of the mighty opium from the 70's.

Cams

I adore this! It's sophisticated and feminine. I was overjoyed when I saw this duty free at London Heathrow! A must-try (with an open mind) as it bears no resemblance to the original - and that's OK.

Migalex

The way pink pepper and nutmeg are used here makes this perfume very similar to lots of others. Pink pepper comes through very noticeably since the beginning, together with the fruity mandarine note. Later, nutmeg and incense seem to take over the lead of the other notes. Longevity and sillage are not great. Although I tend to like pink pepper very much, not so in this perfume. I find it common, lacking character, and not particularly pleasant. It is nothing to to with the original Opium, but I never liked it very much either. I do have the greatest respect for Jean Louis Sieuzac, though, the creator of the original Opium, but not for having created it, but rather for what I consider two of the greatest perfumes of all time, Oscar de la Renta and the 1989 reformulation of Madame Rochas.

daisyM

This is as politically correct as the original Opium wasn't. Vapeurs is a little sweet, a little citrusy, a little powdery, a little bit of this, a little bit of that. Obviously Opium fans are disappointed. But Vapeurs de Parfum was not made for them; it's supposed to take market shares from Shalimar Initial and Coco Mademoiselle. It's not about creating a perfume; it's about the marketing consultants advising: "Why the others should get all the pie from the cute little pink perfumes? YSL is entitled to a piece too!"

laantjebanaantje

The best thing I can say about is that it doesn't last long. I really, really don't like it.
I appologize to all of you who do like it, but there is nothing here for me but screechy, peppery harshness. I don't get ANY jasmine, which is a shame, because I love jasmine.
I do get a little bit of incence, and when the fragrance dries down some amber as well. It has a soft drydown, not annoying like the opening, but nothing special either.
Positive thing is it wasn't that strong (and I LIKE strong scents), because if this would have had the strength of an EDP, it would have completely knocked me out.

starlight47

I absolutely love Opium, so I can't wait to try the Opium Vapeurse de Parfum!! I have the Belle d'Opium and the Opium for women and between the two I much more prefer the Opium for women. It is stronger and more spicy. I can actually still smell it on me the next day. I have been wanting to try the Cinema by YSL, I am curious how the Cinema will compare with the Opium?

LaPetite

I have tested it this morning and i'm so surprised i loved it since i usually hate all the "Opium something" scent except the beautiful " Opium Fleur de Shanghai" from 2005 .
I don't feel much pink pepper in it ,( it's a note that i usually dislike and yet i'm loving this cent .)
Just like Elie Saab and Yves Rocher's "Tendre Jasmin " there is a beautiful Orange Bloosom / Jasmine combo ( i guess this is getting trendy? )warmed by the incense and the amber however .
Not surprisingly all the Opium lovers hate it , i predicted it right away , it's really not like the man-eater original Opium , but those who hate it may like this scent , like i do .

Maeva

I find it worrying that the only word you can read on the bottle label, apart from the name of the brand, is "Opium". On the box, we can only find the expression "Vapeurs de parfum" some two centimeters below the word "Opium", and in considerably smaller lettering. This is very confusing. Is L'Oréal trying to fool uninformed users into buying this fragrance instead of Opium? On top of that, the differences between the two bottles are not very remarkable.

The differences between Opium and Opium Vapeurs de parfum ARE remarkable, though. With a very noticeable pink pepper undertone (lately so much in vogue), Vapeurs is a watered down, more conventionally "feminine" makeover of the classic, fresher, lighter, more flowery and citrusy. Even if its development is rather linear, it lasts 2 hours on my skin. Not bad for a summer flanker, I guess.

For me Opium VDP is just shallowly pleasant while the preformulated Opium is deep and ravishing. I began this review complaining about the fact that the bottle and packaging were misleading, but maybe they aren't so if they simply want to make us think this fragrance is "Opium in pink"... :(

Madame Jocelyne

I think that this perfume is nice, yes it is light and doesn't have much similarity to the orginal Opium, but it is a good introduction to the Opium scent, especially for younger women. It stays on well but does'nt seem to develop like its original namesake.

It's an ok light sweety smell, neither to love it, nor to hate it. What makes me angry though, is the name. They could have named it everything except Opium. Belle d' Opium was enough. Not again the same mistake.

This is another disappointment since L'Oreal bought out the great YSL and proceeded to ruin their brand. I would not buy this if it was by Kate Moss or Paris Hilton, if I like a scent and find it good quality for the price, I'll say so. This smells much like decent quality air freshener. It's harsh, 'white floral' screeches up to my headache centre along with some unsubtle citrus. It has no definition or development and is in my opinion, another nail in the coffin for the great scent brands of the world.

Having read so many reviews, I am surprised to find that on me this smells like Opium light. Not a watered down, or weak version, just, lighter. Like Opium for beginners. On me is is very spicy with a ton of incense, cushioned on soft flowers. I think if you find the original too strong for you try this one. It is a more wearable version and I like it a lot better than Belle d'Opium, which I find almost as heavy as the original, just with more white flowers.
Staying power with this one is just as good as the original Opium I might add, a good 12 hours on my skin and still distinct and the bottle is really quite pretty.

I love this. One of my other faves is Chanel coco mademoiselle and this is similar. The opium version! I can't agree with the other reviews. I love this. Maybe they shouldn't have called it opium as I don't think it is anything like the original which is probably why opium lovers don't like it.

Claudia26, I couldn't agree more with you. I love Opium and I wear it all year round. I don't need to spend a fortune on a watered down version of it just because the temperatures rise every summer (paying a price for it that has not been reduced or softened like the juice, by the way). You're right: the only difference lies in how you apply your perfume in hot weather. But "Opium" seems to be a magical word and l'Oréal keeps associating it to other more run-of-the-mill creations in the name of profit, especially when recent summer launches like Saharienne have not proved commercially successful at all. I'll always stay faithful to Opium, whatever the temperatures and the soft flankers offered every summer! :) (as long as I still have some; I treasure two bottles of the pre-formulated Opium and hope they last forever, but that's another story...).

I tested this on back of my right hand and ck one summer 2012 on left hand.I immediatly fell for this one, pink pepper and mandarin combination obviously works with my skin chemistry. Its lasted 5hrs+ on me so far and still going strong!. Its a winner in my books and i'm loving it enough to want to add it to my "want list".I'm a huge fan of the original but I can even appreciate this Opium flanker.

Its not that it doesn't smell of Opium (I like Belle D'Opium) to me this smells off. I am sure it will work in some peoples skin. In paper strip to me, smelled like a mixture of perfumes that have gone off. I was with another two peope and neither of them liked it. I do have the real vintage one and I love it.
I have a vial with this one and I am very hesitant to trying it on my skin...

Edit: I got the courage to apply on my skin and it smells MUCH nicer than on the paper. I get sweet flowers and then the incense straight away, a few minutes later the woods come in. I think this could be a great autumm perfume.

But I totally agree with others that this shouldn't have been called Opium, because with that name you can't help it but compare it with the original one, and I think if you manage not to compare it, and take it as a totally different one it would be a totally different experience. Unfortunatelly I can't separate them.

Before everyone gets all dismissive of this scent, remember IT DOESN'T HAVE TO SMELL 'LIKE' OPIUM.
It's lovely as a stand alone fragrance.
Original Opium is magnificent in it's warmth and richness, in fact it's my favourite scent. I was given a pre-sale sample last weekend of the vapeurs and was surprised by how much I liked it. It reminds me more of their 80s Male scent - Kouros, more than Opium which is no bad thing.
It leads with a strong mandarin citrus and dries to reveal more dry spice mingling with the mandarin, a little more complex and much less feminine than it's parent.
I see people talking about it being too light, in comparison to 'opium' of course it's light, it's supposed to be, hence the word Vapeurs! It does however have staying power, it lasted several hours on me.
If you see this odd little loveliness as nothing to do with the original, you might like it very much. I will be getting a bottle when it comes on sale next month, definitely.

Amazing bottle!! I'm very happy to see a light version of Opium, I love the fragrances of Yves Saint Laurent!

whaaaaaaaaat?? a "ligere" version of THE oriental perfume Opium :|
whyyyyyyy????? f***in' L'Oreaaaaaaaaal :|
:'( nooooooooo
opium is just the heavy, ambery, spicy, sexy, and incensy scent that we love, and so much people hate, that's opium
and now, this "brand" is trying to destroy opium's soul to sell it for the mass??
i'm crying!!! poor YSL, he's going to reborn only to die again 2 times when he see this :'(

querelle

Another proof, along with all the sport releases fever, that clearly says out loud that modern perfumery is taken over by marketing people, craving more money, more money, more money.. Poor YSL..

deyutzu90

It smel amazing, but doesn't stay long on the skin :(( it's really an EDT Légère

eilismaireg

Please please please let this be better than the reformulations YSL have put out lately. Is this L'Oreal (their new 'managers') pandering to the mainstream or will it be as beautiful as the description? Let's wait and see...!

AMDs44

I was actually wishing that they release an intensive version of belle because it is so light but this is really promising !!
