The stable labour market trend continued in 2023 and led to low unemployment figures. This resulted in a revenue surplus of CHF 2.76 billion for the unemployment insurance.
According to SECO’s surveys, there were 105,465 unemployed people registered with the regional employment centres (RAVs) at the end of May, which is 1,492 fewer than the previous month. The unemployment rate remained stuck at 2.3% in May. Compared with the same month last year, the unemployment rate has risen by 17,389 people (+19.7%).
SECO's 5th monitoring report on implementation of the job registration requirement, which was published on 24 May, shows that there were significantly fewer registered vacancies in 2023 than in the previous year. In 2022, a total of 476,597 jobs were registered, while in 2023 that figure fell to 287,671.
