Hollywood is a temptress, a trickster, a soul-stealing devil. I married an A-list player, knowing I come second place to his craft. But Lucas and I are a golden couple, a modern-day fairy tale.

I’ve never doubted what we built...until the sudden death of Lucas’s best friend has scandal rocking the Hills and shaking the foundation of our relationship.

I chose Lucas as my safe haven...he chose the role of a lifetime.

For the next three months, I’ll share my nights with a stranger, watching as he buries his pain, immersed in his role and living as someone else.

We’ve done this before. I tell myself it’s just another movie, and he’ll return to me.

I should’ve known this time would be different.

To get my husband back, I’ll need the strength of ten men.

As it turns out, I’ll have to go through two.

I am his life and he is mine and that’s the only way we’ve ever worked.

Method is a book unlike anything I’ve read before. I think it’s Kate’s best work yet. The writing is stunning and complex and just… everything. This book had my heart beating so fast, I was anxious, happy, sad, emotional, and at the end I took a deep breath and smiled so big. It was a journey, truly brilliant, and definitely one of my top reads of 2019.

This is the story of a married couple, Mila and Lucas. Lucas is a Hollywood star. He came from nothing and is a true rags to riches story. He’s a method actor and very good at what he does. When he’s working, work is his life. But Mila is always there. It’s never easy, but they make his job work. They love each other and it’s their reality.

When Lucas’s best friend and fellow actor passes away, something changes within Lucas. He’s not grieving and he’s not coping. Through all this, he gets a role of a lifetime. Something he’s going to have to dig deep to play. And he seems more lost to the role than ever. Mila doesn’t know what to do, she’s never experienced Lucas like this before. Are you anxious about how this is going to go yet? You should be ;)
Even though I was aware of this when I took my vows, it doesn’t make the progression any less grueling. Once immersed, Lucas never breaks character, ever, for any reason.

Oh my god the angst. I literally could not put this book down once I started reading. It stole my sleep and I was totally fine with that. Mila and Lucas are not a perfect couple and they don’t always have a perfect marriage, but love isn’t perfect. It’s messy, flawed, and sometimes heartbreaking and no one writes messy love better than Kate Stewart. But true love, unconditional love, it’s infinite. And that is the love Lucas and Mila have.

This book goes back and forth between the present and the past. When I was in the present, I wanted to go back to the past to see what happened to lead up to where we were, but when I was in the past, I wanted to speed up to get to the present. I couldn’t get enough of either one. Sometimes flashbacks don’t work for me in books, but the pace was seamless and the flashbacks were executed perfectly in this one.

If you can’t tell enough by my gushing review, this book is epic and needs to go to the very top of your TBR list! It’s compelling, emotional, sensual, and I foresee it going on a ton of top favorite lists this year (mine included!).

Edgy, angsty, heartbreaking but definitely deserved five shiny stars!
Great news, I finally found an amazing romance book to give five full stars. But this is not simple, plain emotional read. This book was a knife repeatedly stabbed into my heart and each stab wounded me deeper!
It made me scream, cry, curse, it made me exhausted, numb, angry and mostly it broke me into tiny pieces.
It was frustrating, captivating, unputdownable!
I adored heroine, Mila. She was smart, sophisticated, sexy. She was a great wife, knowing her husband strengths and weaknesses, how to manage him perfectly. She fights tooth and nail to keep their marriage alive.
At some parts I thought our tormented, broken hero Lucas didn’t deserve him. His dedication to the acting even it may hurt her wive’s feelings, his inferiority complex about his lack of education could be dealbreaker for me.
But as soon as I connected with them and learned more pieces about their pasts, the beginning of their story , I deeply understood why they were so great together!
Their love for each other is dysfunctional, unconventional, but mostly unconditional!
This book is not only about the demands of acting job and how the method acting can push your boundaries and take you to a dangerous zone that you never discovered before. This is about grief, this is about ups and mostly downs, emotional balances of marriage. This is about learning yourself, communicating about your feelings, finding your purpose at life by understanding who you are!
There are too many great quotes from real actors from this book. But the most effective one that might the summary of the story is:
“All it takes is beautiful fake smile to hide an injured soul. And they will never notice how broken you really are”/ Robin Williams 😭😭😭
This quote also helped me understand and empathize with the hero!
I’m so happy to read and wept ! I’m still pissed off myself cause I only read Kate Stewart’s books written with her pen name Angelica Chase. I already discovered and downloaded seven other fantastic books of her! Better late than never!
This is so far one of my favorite romance books of 2019!
If you’re ready for heartbreaking, tear jerking, soul capturing journey, this book is definitely for you !!!!

Overall Opinion: Whew! That was a doozy! The angst! It was a unique storyline and it held my interest completely because it was so interesting and different than anything I've read before. That alone makes me really want to rate this as 4 stars... but. I felt like there was waaaaaay too much inner dialogue going on. I get that the inner dialogue had a big role in setting up their relationship and the different tenses that the author bounces around between, but it made it feel like majority of the book was in their heads and not much actually happened. The different tenses also made the ending feel incomplete in a way that I was wishing for some more grovel from the H and time experiencing them working things out. That being said...this taps into the feels and gives the angst fest that I often look for, and their good times are really good -- so there is that! I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for that angsty read that is completely unique!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Mila and Lucas's story. The story begins with them attending the funeral of Lucas's best friend that committed suicide. Mila is worried about the distance that Lucas is putting between them in his grief, and Lucas jumps right into a tough role in a new movie as an infamous gangster as an avoidance coping mechanism. As Lucas gets more and more immersed into his role, the more the distance grows between them. There are some sweet moments, some sexy times, and a good bit of angst...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Mila and Lucas's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Alright. This bounces between the present, the past after the best friend's death (~3 months), and the past when they are starting their relationship (~6 years). While I do think the author did alright with the tense differences, I also felt like it was way too much inner dialogue and the ending felt incomplete (with I attribute to the different tenses).

Instalove: Kind of. Things move fast for them in the flashbacks, and the story begins when they've been married for ~6 years.

H rating: 3.5 stars. Lucas. I liked him, but I also think I lost some of that like because I wanted him to grovel some more.

h rating: 4 stars. Mila. I liked her. I appreciated how she loved the H and wanted to help him.

Sadness level: Moderate/high. I cried more than a few times. I also needed tissues a few times.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. When the H is in character their sex scenes become rough.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: No

Sex scene with OW or OM: Not really

Cheating: Not IMO

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This is tough to say. While it does give us closure and what I would classify as a HEA , the way the story jumps around between times makes it feel like not enough closure for me. I feel like I wanted more grovel and more of them working through their issues, especially after all the angst leading up to the ending. I know it might just be me being overly picky again 🤷🏻‍♀️

Safety: This one is probably Safe with exception for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

Oh hell no.

One of my favorite tropes is Famous/Celebrities and my god did this book top my lists. The writing is spot on, brilliant, it's literally flawless with how it is told. It's left me in the biggest hangover the last 24 hours. It's all I think of. Lucas Walker, lord I haven't had a character consume me in so long. And Mila, this is one strong ass heroine. I fell in love with these characters along this beautiful journey. I won't go into detail, as you know, I think its good to go in and not know all that will happen. Just know when rules are broken, you break a heck of a lot more than just the rules.....

From start to finish, I was enraptured in this story. Hands down, you have to read this one!! Total recommend from me ❤️❤️️

*****FIVE++++++ STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Love isn’t the issue. It never was. We’ve had it in abundance, along with a healthy dose of trust. He’d rearranged our universe to revolve around the other, and once we did, we were both sealed in our fate, destined to be the moon and obeying tide. I glowed in his affection while he swept me away with one electrifying wave after another.

MIND BLOWN!!! I’m once again in awe of the incredible storytelling gift of this amazing author. Her words wreck my heart and then slowly puts it back together again. I feel like I’ve just gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson in the ring after having just finished ”METHOD”. This is truly one of Kate Stewart’s best works yet! Get ready to go on a wild and angst-filled ride with these amazing characters who will without a doubt steal your hearts.

Lucas and Mila are Hollywood’s current “IT” couple. Mila is living every woman’s fantasy. She’s a woman who is not in the industry who has won the heart of the biggest actor in Hollywood. From the moment these two met there was undeniable intense chemistry burning between them. They fell hard and fast. While their life has been like a living fantasy for nearly six years, their love is about to be put through the ultimate test by two epic life-changing events which happen at about the same time. Lucas wins the role of a lifetime soon after his best friend commits suicide.

Lucas is a ”method” actor. When he is working on a project, he completely immerses himself in the role he is playing. There is no Lucas—only the character exists and this time it seems as if he has lost himself completely. Mila has been Lucas’ rock and support system for years but this time feels different. Her love and trust in the man who owns her soul are being challenged at every turn.

The story switches from the present to many moments from their past and not all in chronological order, but still was easy to follow. Lucas and Mila’s journey is filled with so many intense and painful emotions that I really did feel thoroughly exhausted by the time I got to the end of this story, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroes: 5
Heroine: 5
Plot: 5++++
Angst: 5+++++
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5++++

Method is so much more than a book about acting and being famous. This story is about marriage and friendship. About sacrifices and loss. Guilt and redemption. At the core of this story it all comes down to love. Between husband and wife and two best friends. Method is a haunting, beautiful and heartbreaking love story.

Lucas and Mila. Their story is mixed with highs and lows as it should be when it comes to being in a marriage. He’s an actor and has finally made it to the big league of actors after years of hard work all thanks to his best friend Blake and mentor Maddie. Lucas and Blake are brothers. They’re that close so when Blake dies unexpectedly it hits Lucas hard. Harder than anything which makes Mila feel helpless and inadequate.
Mila and Lucas has a strong marriage and connection. How their relationship began is told and explored with so much heart thanks to the author’s poignant prose. The reader gets to experience their courtship from the beginning. It’s filled with funny, romantic scenes and some damn hot ones as well. What they all have in common is heart. There’s so much love and passion in their relationship. The chemistry is blazing hot. Dripping off the pages. Lucas is the perfect alpha and Mila is his match!
I was on a roller coaster of love falling for both Lucas and Mila as they did for one another.

Lucas takes on a new role. The role of a life time which has consequences for him, for Mila and their marriage. Lucas is hurting and the only way to deal with his pain is to escape in a role. A character. It was frightening and sad to watch him and yet also very intriguing and fascinating. Lucas is in his element and Mila is losing her husband day by day. Mila is fighting as hard as she possibly can to save their marriage but it’s difficult when her partner is lost.
I had no idea what to think, feel or expect. I held on for dear life and had faith in the author and her storytelling. Kate Stewart delivered. Oh boy did she deliver. That element of surprise and shock. Fantastic!

The ensemble in Method is incredible. These characters captured my heart from the prologue alone.
The story delivers on all levels. I got a bromance, an all consuming love and a wonderful and loving friendship between a boy and his “surrogate” mother.
The ending left me feeling emotional and on a high from being in the company of such great characters and strong storytelling.

Kate Stewart has created an incredible and memorable story. The reader gets a look into a strong marriage where vows and love isn’t always enough. Also what it’s like to be an actor. Not just any actor. An actor who sacrifices his heart, blood and soul to his craft. Damn the consequences. It’s haunting, real and intense. Method definitely qualifies as a must read. It’s pretty damn epic.

This was a wonderful, unique read! My only complaint was the time jumping. I found myself confused at times as to if we were in the past or present. Other than that I really enjoyed this story and appreciated how original the storyline was. I find it very hard to find books that don’t share common themes with all of the other ones out there. It was refreshing to find this story like no other. I also learned a lot about what Method acting is all about!

I also enjoyed the fact that I wasn’t able to predict the outcome of this story line. There were secrets revealed that I never saw coming. All in all, a brilliant story written by an amazing author!

Thanks so much for another awesome Buddy Read Steph!❤️

There's tears streaming down my face, an unending river of emotions that my heart cant contain anymore. Kate takes a blunt spoon and gouges out your soul. Brilliantly written, poignantly factual & dreadfully honest, it will shake you to your core. Make you analyze your own life, put your priorities into perspective and hopefully rearrange your wants & needs in the correct order.
Undoubtedly THE BEST BOOK OF THIS YEAR !!!
And it's only a quarter in!
“There are four questions of value in life…What is sacred?
Of what is the spirit made?
What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for?
The answer to each is the same. Only love.”
—Johnny Depp in Don Juan DeMarco
Lord Byron

This story has abundance of love. All consuming, enveloping,  embracing love and ultimately overwhelming grief when you lose that kind of love. It shall be cruel to just call it a romance, it's a life lesson about existencial crisis. A guide to marriage and the sacrifices and trust that goes in to keep it working. A key to fighting your demons and conquering them.

description

There are so many threads running in this one book, it's difficult to focus on any one relationship or one dynamic. My eyes were spoilt for choice as they scanned over so many vibrant colours of human personality. Kate has, simply put- surpassed herself. She broke my heart in Drive and pathetically managed to stitch it back up after incessant bleeding of my tears, but I have no hesitation in saying, she has brought me to my knees as a reader with Method.
I genuflected ON THE PAGES, trying to lick and suck every word, to drink all of Lucas Walker and Mila's  tears. All this while Kate was chopping my knees off. I finished and was so lifeless with grief and misery, it took me an entire day to collect my thoughts and try to put in words what I was feeling.
I could say this is a love story between an unlikely pairing of a Hollywood super star and a sommelier. So far apart in status and stature, yet they fit together perfectly like hand and glove.
Our courtship is a poor man’s fairy tale and a little cliché but it’s still my favorite. I was the nobody one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors chose. The scrutiny cost me a little sanity, but he was worth it. At times, I’m still an ant beneath a magnifying glass.
Or I can spotlight another story of love between two brothers, Blake west and Lucas.
This too has equal amounts of loyalty & kinship, commitment and camaraderie.
But there's a 4th character at play that ruins everything.
The Method
We’re living in a land of fiction, and it’s up to me to decipher the truths from the lies.

description

It's a monster that demands to be let out. Once it tears up the skin and jumps out it starts to take it's own form, develops it's own mind and soon consumes and actor. Cloaks his personality and like a terminator, acts on its own independently.
The story has taken it's heavy toll on me tbh, I was stunned and stupefied at first, which soon turned to disbelief and astonishment. What appears to be jumping between past, 3 months & present timeline, is actually a jump between reality and illusion which is masterfully crafted by Kate. It's a factual story about uselessness of your wants which sacrifices your needs at the altar

description

I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.”
—Jim Carrey

The characters are so true to life and methodically put together, it's like Kate has drawn their growth from her own personal experiences. Which makes this story even more scarier. How can a person be this close to the edge of the cliff and not leap!!!
The thought process behind conceptualization is scary and I'm forced to imagine what it has done to Kate herself while plotting this story. I wanted to hug Mila & Lucas, weep for Blake, sob for Amanda and thank Maiwenn.
I'm shaken, I'm unnerved and I have totally lost my bearings after I closed the book.
It was exactly what I’d asked for— risky , consuming, a whirlwind, and still, I was terrified to embrace it. But there’s a fine line between being responsible and being predictable. So I leap.
What a flight
What a performance
What a journey
I'm humbled, starstruck and amazed by your talent Kate.

description This book has been ALL over my news feed of late, so of course, I had to see what all the fuss was about, and I liked it a lot. Was I blown away by it, no. I think for me there were just too many flashbacks, and time jumps. I was much more engaged in Lucas’s descent into madness and the fallout from that. I actually would have preferred to read more of that and fewer flashbacks that bogged the story down.

description
The flashback issues aside...the rest of this book was fantastic. You could tell the author did her homework. The writing was great. The twist was well executed. The method acting plot was intriguing. I'd never want to date an actor like Lucas. That shit is just crazy! (lol) I'm honestly not sure how I feel about him. He was a great hero (most of the time), but when he went off the rails, he REALLY went off the f-cking rails. Mia on the other hand was a great heroine all the way through. Strong. Feisty. I'm not sure "I" would have gave Lucas another chance, but at least she made him work (somewhat) for it and didn't immediately run right back into his arms.

So yea, overall it was a great read. If the author had dropped a few of the flashbacks and plumped up the present timeline it probably would have been a 5-Star book for me.

We are thin hearts trying to break through thick walls.

What is it about Kate Stewart's words that never fail to pull me into every single emotion that she instills into her incredible books. And this book? It was one emotional roller coaster full of heart wrenching and angsty romance. It was one of the most unique books I've read in a long damn while and I couldn't stop reading it. It reached into the very depth of my reader's soul and managed to pull out every feeling ranging from one extreme to the other. It made me swoon, it made me cry, and at times it made me rage.

Method touches on a subject that isn't easy to read. It paints an incredibly vivid picture of what happens when talent and dedication begins to skate the edge of madness and something else. Something dangerous. Something dark.

Mila and Lucas are the epitome of the Hollywood couple; desperately in love with the type of beginning that any romantic's dreams are made out of. After six year of wedded bliss, the sudden and tragic death of Lucas's best friend sends them into a tailspin that neither saw coming.

Mila knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she married Lucas. She knew that his craft comes first and she knew the price he paid for the prep he does before his roles. But nothing could prepare her for the mist of mourning that her husband enters after the death of his best friend or just exactly what his dedication to his craft will cost them.

The story is told in several flashbacks ranging from present, to their first meeting, and to the months leading up to their current situation. I don't typically have an issue with flashbacks, and you can see that the author had a reason for writing them the way that she did. However, I couldn't help but struggle with this part. Just as I was getting into the feeling of being in the present, it would flash back to 6 years ago, or to the months leading up to their deterioration. This began to get extremely distracting for me. There were parts that felt they jumped too suddenly and if it wasn't for the shift to italics in the font, I'd have no idea we were suddenly teleported to 5 years ago.

That aside, I fell desperately in love with these characters and their story. My heart bled for Lucas and everything he goes through just as my heart ached for Mila and everything she stood through. This is a couple that loves each other at their worst, but just didn't expect what would happen when the worst turns ugly. What happens when mourning and regrets begin to morph into something darker. And the price you pay for raw talent and everything that it takes for making it as a Hollywood A-lister. It was raw and gut wrenching and absolutely unforgettable. I devoured all of the words. It kept me reading well into the night. I was completely captivated by this incredible story. It was phenomenal. It was one of a kind. Kate Stewart just gets better and better with every book and I can't wait to see what her imagination will come up with next.

Still no

I don't get it when books about such toxic couples are so highly rated. Like loving someone who is as healthy for you as radioactive waste is a life's goal or something. As if.
Based on the sturm and drang of the prologue, I expected something earth-shattering to have occurred in the relationship. Nope.
It was apparently okay for Lucas to physically use Mila and shag her like an animal when he was in a mood, or behave like a childish brat because of his clichéd insecurities, or be the most selfish jackass on the planet because he was such a 'brilliant' actor. She knew what she'd signed on for. So really, since she was okay with all that I don't get the reason for their separation.
I don't much care. I didn't like either one of them, particularly Lucas. What a weak, self-indulgent little boy he was.
This wasn't a beautiful, moving love story. It wasn't even particularly interesting, but YMMV. I just don't find toxic relationships charming. I don't find insta-love romantic in the slightest. In fact, it's one of my least favourite tropes. And I'm not going to be invested in a couple when most of their interactions on the page center around physical chemistry.

This book wants to be smarter than it actually is and so many writers think that 'artistic license' clears them to play fast and loose with the facts. The load of pseudo-psychological codswallop at one point had me abandoning my Kindle because it was too ridiculous to waste my time on when I could be doing something constructive.
And I could have missed it due to lack of interest, but I'm still unclear as to what Blake's big secret was. It seemed to me that there was a lot of conjecture without an actual reveal.

I've never had a good result with this writer's work. The blurbs are always sooo tempting but she just doesn't work for me. I don't like the characters she creates and can't connect to them. But once again I was sucked in by the synopsis and some of the glowing reviews...and should know better. Still, hope always springs eternal in a book drought.
'Method' unfortunately left too much to be desired all the way around. For all its potential, it could have been a truly stand-out story - in the hands of someone else.
In future I'll be sure to give this writer a pass.

READ MY REVIEW ON THE BLOG

TITLE: Method
AUTHOR: Kate Stewart
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
RATING: ✭✭✭✭

“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of
so they can see that it’s not the answer.”

Jim Carrey

Before I start to read a book by Kate Stewart I have two thoughts. One is: "Yay, bring on the angst!" The other one is: "Shit, the angst!" Once I'm a little bit further into the story that dread falls away and the glee remains.

Lucas Walker has made it to the top as one of Hollywood's most successful actors. He has it all, the fame, the money, the whirlwind love story of a lifetime and a marriage to the woman he would sell his soul for.
“You still think you can get the girl, Hollywood?”
“I’ll never stop trying,” he replies before we manage another kiss, one that goes far deeper.

His best friend and actor Blake West's suicide tosses him into a dark place - guilt about his own role in Blake's downfall consumes him but he keeps his grief inside, bottles it up.  When a once-in-a-lifetime role is offered to him he loses himself in it, immerses himself into the character like never before. Mila starts to see changes about her husband, changes that'll turn their life together upside down and put their marriage at risk.

This story is told in a big part in flashbacks (I know a lot of people don't like those) and they are essential to understand why Mila fights for her marriage to her last breath. But I think this is a good time to mention that the extensive use of them keeps the story from going forward. That doesn't mean that the flashbacks slow the story down. No, the angst does its work and keeps you glued to the pages, but it made it a little frustrating.
Perfect wife, perfect life, but I’m totally fucking lost.

In the present Lucas had my stomach in my throat and my heart in my guts for a good old violent churn. He was cold, callous, unfeeling and it was agonizing to unite his character with the loving, funny, sweet and modest guy he was in the past while he courted Mila. He was a keeper then, so romantic, down-to-earth and honest about his feelings. And damn, those flashback chapters about their beginning made the hurt so worth it and I knew, eventually, they would be alright. The road there was long, hard and stony though and there were times I wanted to shake Lucas, punch him and tell him to get his shit together.
“Okay, Hollywood,” I admit tearfully , “you got the girl. Now what?”
“Now everything,” he promises before his lips crush mine.

Mila's sass, intelligence and strength were my favorite thing. Her tenacity and need to help Lucas and to be supportive without being a doormat made her his perfect life partner. She was the rock Lucas could lean on even when things turned into a train wreck, yet she still drew the line and knew when she had to look out for herself. I had so much admiration and love for her. For them. Lucas and Mila's relationship was unconventional, definitely dysfunctional but still so full of love.
“Do you know what the definition of hell is? Because I do. It’s getting the life you wanted only to fuck it up because you didn’t know how to embrace it and be happy.”

The extent of Lucas immersion into this new role becomes apparent in the last couple of chapters of the book and it's a whopper of twist when everything starts to click into place. It is so smartly done that I didn't see it coming. It's a mindfuck extraordinaire.

After finishing this book I have no idea why somebody would want to become a Method actor. Yes, they are exceptional talents but if you have a tendency to obsess over stuff (and most of them do, hence they are exceptional talents) it's a one-way street. It's lonely, toxic and more often than not these artists fall into depression without much hope to crawl out again. And how do you tell when you don't just toe the line of insanity but step over it? It's such a fine line, a balancing act.

The last chapter had me sobbing and looking back it made the journey so worth it.

METHOD certainly is an extraordinary tale about the love of a lifetime between two remarkable characters. Cleverly crafted, it manages to walk the tightrope to be angsty without falling off the ledge and becoming unbearably oppressive. This is why this author is one of my top favorites - METHOD is a typically atypical Kate Stewart story that I definitely recommend for readers who enjoy getting their heart bruised and battered but coming out smiling on the other side anyway.
If you have any desire to become an actor or date one, read this book. It'll challenge every idea you had about Hollywood and will make you wonder whether the glitz an glamour are worth it.
“I love fighting with you. I love the way you look at me. I love the way it feels when we’re together. I love the silk of your skin, the velvet of your beautiful voice. I love the way you caress my forehead when you think I’m asleep. I love that you take all of the socks out of the dryer and count them. I love that you feel so fucking perfect when I push inside you, the way you moan, the way you come. I love your elf ears, the noises you make after you sip wine. The fact that you pick up pennies, no one does that anymore.”
We smile at each other as his eyes water, and his voice clogs with emotion.
“I love that you laugh inappropriately when you’re nervous. I love that you’re so smart. I love that, Mila. I love that you’re a natural teacher because I’ve already learned so much from you. I wasn’t ever able to tell you that before because of foolish pride, but you know all of me now. All of me, even the parts I didn’t want you to."

When Kate says she’s got a new book she wants me to read, I’m always excited. Always. However, the very first time she started talking about Method, I had those feels. You know the ones, especially if you’re a writer. The chills that break out across your neck. That other worldly feeling of something magical entering your life. Every word she uttered about this story both excited and drove me batty. I wanted it. I needed it. And she took her damn time getting it to me. (Understandable, but good gawd with the teasing.)
Now I’ve finally read it. 😭🙌
*takes many deep breaths and tries to calm still sobbing heart*
You think Drive was a stay with you forever kind of read? You think Heartbreak Warfare broke your feels? Then I’d tell you that you need to make room in those brains and hearts of yours once Method arrives, but don’t worry about it, it’ll make room all by itself.
It’s that fucking good.
Kate’s not just one of my closest author peers. In fact, I’ve been a long time fan of my girl and her brilliance way before that, before she even knew me. But I’ve gotta say, I’ve not read a book by her where I actually felt her blood, sweat, and soul on the page like this before.
Yes, I’m being purposely vague, and perhaps a little gross. I donut care. You’re going to have to trust me, and trust our girl. Why?
Because Method is the story you’ve been waiting for. Fascinating, intensely romantic, intelligent, and heartbreaking—it’s the type of story that devours every unassuming part of you.
It’s the book you never saw coming.

What is this madness??? Kate Stewart is a diabolical genius, wrapped in a pretty package of wit, heart, and pure awesome. This book grabbed me by the throat from page one and didn't want to let go. Life Stuff and Adulting wrenched me away,(I'm a super slow reader these days) but it kept calling me and I hated having to wait to get back to it. But it was so worth it. Mila has to be one of the most kick-ass heroines I've ever read. And the acting/Hollywood technical aspects and jargon were soooo perfectly done--nuanced, and not LOOKIT MY RESEARCH. It meshed and flowed, and as a former actor myself, it added another layer of reality that Kate always manages to infuse in her characters.

5+ You’re All I’ve Ever Wanted stars!
(ARC provided by author/ Wordsmith Publicity)

-My heart had memorized his, matched his rhythm and synced.

Mila is the girl next door type who captures the heart of the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood, movie star Lucas Walker. Their chemistry is instant and all consuming, and they are obsessed with one another. They fall hard and fast, and soon she’s under his spell being thoroughly seduced and living the fairytale. They’ve been married over five years, and have become a bit co-dependent. They have built a beautiful life and are better versions of themselves when together. They have something real. A once in a lifetime love that is shaken up when the death of a longtime friend rocks their world.

Lucas is suffering and in pain from his friend’s absence when he’s offered the role of a lifetime. He’s been waiting years for an opportunity like this to come his way. Always striving to perfect his craft, he’s prepared to fully embrace the character. He does method acting with complete immersion. The process is brutal, but the results are career making. Once he’s immersed he doesn’t break character. He has to go all in with each new script and grueling role.

-“Why don’t you allow me to show you what you’re worth to me?”

-I knew she was the one mere hours after I laid eyes on her.

-Every time I see this woman, the epiphany strikes much like the first time I saw her. For me, she is the very look and definition of love.

-She’s the only real thing I’ve ever had in my world of make-believe.

-I am loved by her in a way no other woman could ever master. Mila is the answer, my answer.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Mila isn’t a fan of her husband’s work routine, but always tries to understand and support him. This time something feels different and off. No role has ever been this taxing on their relationship. They aren’t connecting anymore, and are slowly growing further apart as his schedule takes its toll on them. She aches for her husband as the distance between them makes them feel like strangers. Their in a place that’s unfamiliar as their life is imploding. Mila can’t reach him and wonders if in three months when filming is done will she finally get her husband back? What will be left after a job well done?

I loved this book so much! Kate Stewart writes a brilliant, original, deeply passionate story full of angst, emotion, and love. It is told from past to present as this couple evolves and changes going through heartbreak and desperation. Their love is challenged and tested as they realize no love story is perfect or easy, and they have to choose to fight for what matters most. This book was an easy five stars for me, and my new Kate Stewart favorite. It completely captivated me and I felt so connected and invested in these characters. It’s unique, addicting, and will definitely be in my top reads for 2019!

-I need our connection. I am his life and he is mine, and that’s the only way we’ve ever worked.

-He’s perfect, and he has no idea.

-My husband is an expert chameleon. He slips into a newly colored skin with such ease, you’re blindsided by the completion of it and are only able to admire his new color briefly before he slips into another.

-It just goes to show what an amazing performer he is. I can’t even tell truth from fiction anymore.

-Maybe it’s wrong to tempt the devil he’s creating, but it’s the only hand I have.

3.5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐

This was such a great story but I still don't know if Lucas was a psychopath or what?

A really unique idea for a romance, I read this pretty quickly which means I was completely invested in the characters. I loved them both in the good times, the bad not so much.

However, the beautiful words really made me smile so all in all I enjoyed it a lot 😁

I'm just saying, a book like Method will make you feel supremely inadequate when it's time to write a review. There are NO WORDS. There just aren't words for a book on this level. I'm sure if you go back and comb through enough of my reviews of Kate Stewart's books, they'll all say something like "this is my new favorite book by this author" or "this is one of the best books I've read this year." That was true at the time, but THIS, this story of ambition and raw grief and brutal heartache and the most fierce yet fragile picture of love, is absolutely MY NEW FAVORITE BOOK FROM THIS AUTHOR and it's unequivocally one of the MOST PHENOMENAL books I've read.

I can't even begin to tackle the mastery of this storyline. It is absolute breathtaking PERFECTION what Stewart crafts on these pages. I'm in awe. I never wanted this book to end but I was desperate to get through it because IT IS DEVASTATING on so many levels. It hurts and it keeps hurting and then it hurts more. But that hurt is layered amidst the most GLORIOUS romance, a story that flickers back and forth between the past, the present, and the more recent past but that's also told through the alternating points of view of this husband and wife set adrift by the insurmountable obstacles threatening their marriage. The crafting of this novel feels meticulous and strategic and remarkable but for this author was probably effortless. It's BEYOND magical. It's superb

I thought I was kind of over the whole celebrity romance trope. There's something ethereal about celebrity, the way the shine of fame makes a character feel so unattainable. I both love and hate that feeling, the unsettling feeling that this hero will never truly just be ours, because we share him with everyone who buys a movie ticket or a gossip rag. But that vibe is catapulted into another realm by what Kate Stewart does here with Lucas Walker's character, emotionally isolating him from his wife not only by his fame and the demands of his job, but also by the grueling methods he uses to get into character.

Method is about fame, yes. It's about loss. It's about mental illness and the most palpable kind of grief. It's about new love and old love and it's a gut wrenching test of that love's resilience. It's as much an ode to friendship as it is an ugly testament to the grim reality of aspiration. This book was next level angst juxtaposed with the most INTOXICATING romance. It was utterly devastating, a claw inside your skin and rake your insides kind of read. I was completely RIVETED. I was broken. I won't move on from this book. I don't even have the words to thoroughly describe all the ways I loved it, all the ways this author BLEW ME AWAY with her words, with her brilliance, with the sheer magnificence of this storyline. Method is a TOP READ of this year for me and certainly one of my new FAVORITE books ever.

“I am his life and he is mine, and that’s the only way we’ve ever worked.”

Kate Stewart is such a phenomenal writer and I have loved each and every story she has created. With each new release I find myself loving it more than the last, and again it has happened, something that I didn’t think was possible. Method is unlike anything I have read to date, it was so unique and one I know I will remember for many years to come. The emotions this story evoked in me were real and I just did not know how I would feel from page to page. It was a heart racing and emotionally driven story; the true meaning of the saying “a page turner”. It genuinely stands out as one epic masterpiece that everyone should read.

Method is centred around married couple Lucas and Mila, and all their trials and tribulations. Like all married couples their life can be complicated, resulting in good times and bad, but they always seem to make it work. Lucas and Mila have the kind of love that most people search for their wholes lives, but never find. A connection so powerful that you know they are destined to be together for the rest of their lives. Their love is full of passion, sweetness, romance and so much chemistry and intensity.

Lucas is an actor who has finally made it to the big time after years of hard work, and the commitment and dedication of Lucas to finally make it big would be enough to put a bit of a strain on any marriage, especially when your work becomes your life. Mila is the true epitome of an understanding wife, she is always there and while it may not always be easy, she makes his job work for them.

“I am loved by her in a way no other woman could ever master. Mila is the answer, my answer. I’m lucky. Blake never found his. But this problem she can’t solve. This sin she can’t absolve me of. I’m guilty in a way I can’t be redeemed, and there’s no coming back.”

When Lucas’ best friend suddenly passes away he is shrouded with so much grief; grief he’s not sure he will ever recover from. Mila is doing her absolute best to be the rock he so desperately needs during this heart wrenching time. During this turbulent time Lucas scores the role of his career and this is set to cause even more troubles for himself, Mila and their marriage. Due to Lucas’ immense dedication to the roles he acquires and using the practice of Method acting to portray realistic and memorable performances, he dives headfirst into the world of the character he is portraying and it’s all or nothing. Mila is at her wits ends about what to do, how to both help and support Lucas and not destroy their marriage in the process.

The angst was literally off the charts and I had no idea what was going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat and the more I read, the more I wanted to know. I stayed up all night to finish Method because I just couldn’t put it down, but it was bittersweet because even though the ending was pure perfection, I was sad it had ended and berated myself for being too impatient and reading it too quickly. Even though I read this in one sitting, I still managed to savour each and every beautiful word, every powerful emotion. I became so invested with the characters I grew to love so much, that every time their heart broke a bit, mine did too.

Method is going down as not only one of my favorite books of 2019, but one of my favorite stories of all-time. I just can’t articulate succinctly enough how much I adored this story and unfortunately no review I attempt to write will do justice to how phenomenal Method is. Kate has truly knocked it out of the park with this masterpiece; her writing is sophisticated, poignant and captivating. The story itself was well thought-out and each chapter had a point, meaning nothing written was unnecessary. While the story went between past and present, it flowed so effortlessly that I never once got confused as to whether I was in the past or present. I could literally talk the ear off of anyone who would listen about all the multitude of things I loved about Method. All romance readers need to one click this. Method is one unforgettable angsty story about loss, sacrifice, grief and an epic love so powerful your heart will both break and then be mended once more. I laughed, I cried, I grieved and I loved this story with every ounce of my being.

Not only is the story is told in past and present within a 4 month time frame, but while in the "present" there are long and frequent flashbacks that go back to when the couple first meet. I have a tough time enjoying a story with too many flashbacks, this one takes it to the next level. It's a shame because the "present" had me all it, but I grew more and more frustrated with each interruption that sent me back to the past.

5 « cleverly written » stars

It took Method to bring me out of my book funk and get back the 5 stars rating!

Method is just exceptionally built! Not only is it moving but the way Kate Stewart built her story, alternating chapters between pas and present, beginning with the end then going to “four months ago” to follow with years past was brilliant, clever and demonstrates a huge talent!

Honestly I always focus my reviews on the characters and I will but I need to take a moment to delve on the structure of that book! Because smart is not a strong enough word to describe it!

Rarely have I read stories with such flawless construction.

Usually when choosing to peek in the character’s past, you alternate between past and present chapters but Kate did not stop there.

As I said above the prologue is a dramatic scene located somewhere close to the end of the book.

Then you are sent into “four months ago” as it was the turning point of the story. The culprit or rather the trigger for all that will unfold later. Interwoven with “four months ago” are memories of years past. Then step by step you will progress to present time.

This allows Kate Stewart to have us guess for a long time what pushed Blake to that point. It also gives us an insight into Mila and Lucas love story as well as Lucas childhood.

At no point in the book does it get boring nor uninspiring.

Kate Stewart managed to keep the suspense and the tension all along while anchoring us into Mila and Luca’s orbit. They truly are one of these legendary couples.

But even couples united by a love as deep as theirs have their own ordeals, their own work to make it a success again and again.

This is how writing must be done!

Now I would not be true to myself of course if I did not speak of the characters. And what characters!

They are perfect for each other and will obviously have a place among my OTP (One True Pairing).

Mila is opinionated, smart, independent, dedicated and generous. She can live alone but she will take a leap of faith to live with Lucas, thrive as a star’s wife without embracing Hollywood’s extravagance.

Lucas was just …not perfect as he did mistakes but one of the best book boyfriends I have ever read about!

He was handsome, smart yet humble. Loyal (thank God!), loving, incredibly gifted and committed to have his marriage last a long time.

Reading about his childhood just broke my heart!
I was the smelly kid, you know? I was the one that had to steal deodorant from The Family Dollar so I wouldn’t fucking reek after gym. The one with the shredded clothes.”

When he found Mila he found his safe harbor. His life partner.
“You changed my luck, Dame. And for the first time in my life, I feel like if I ever need rescuing, I’ll have somebody there to help save me.”

Yet, Blake’s death and the method acting will take their toll on him and pose a huge threat for their marriage.

One of this book’s main topics is about method acting, I think Kate did a great job highlighting the toll it takes on actor’s lives. How totally consumed by their character they become. So immersed with their role that it threatens theirs sanity and make family life extremely difficult.

You will also think about fulfilling your dreams and about what’s next. When you are on top of the mountain, what’s awaiting you? What makes you thrive? And was it worth the cost?

Because the cost Blake’s paid was certainly not worth it.

While reading this story I experienced the whole feeling’s spectrum: joy, angst, anger, fear, sadness, love … It was nor overdone nor downplayed. Just …balanced.

I can’t find a flaw in that story. I can’t pinpoint to something I would have done in another way. I can’t choose a scene or a chapter that felt unnecessary nor roughly written.

I am simply smitten with that story, these characters and the story building.

Just read it.
Have you read any book by Kate Stewart? Or encountered any book whose building left you in awe? If so just give it to me! :-D
Thanks for reading.

REVIEW: 4.5 Stars
"You still think you can get the girl, Hollywood?"
"I'll never stop trying."

What. Did I. Just. Read. <-- Really not even a question. Seriously, wide eyes from the minute I opened the book! I love love love when I can open a book and get completely engrossed in the words that are inspiring not only a mystery, but also a deep and suspenseful love that is unmatched. Lucas and Mila had a love that surpassed any logic I could have ever come up with. But that's the definition of their true love. Their truth. One, that by the time I closed the book with a smile upon my face, it made me exhale and smile. To think a love that battered and that torn can rise above it all and come out better on the other side. Absolutely amazing.

I love BIG books. Not 'go big or go home' style, but ones that are so real world but nothing I would ever touch in my real world. So I love the rockstar books. I love the billionaire books. And I love the Hollywood books. I like 'em different, but I love them even more when they aren't the same old story. Kate definitely made this one that much more different, and one that will leave people talking for a while.

When an authors writing makes me antsy, I know I am in for a treat. Especially when the words are lining up perfectly and the flow is consistent and smooth. Or when the story is unfolding before my very eyes and I can't settle down enough to read it because I am so excited about the possibilities. Kate did this one other time with me with DRIVE. That book drove me to drink - in Vegas no less. I loved it!!! This is exactly how Method started out for me.....and subsequently ended for me.

"Ok, Hollywood. You got the girl. Now what?"
"Now everything."

Devastating and haunting, this book dove deep into a tortured and broken mind/soul to retrieve a love seemingly lost. Looking deep into her words, Stewart spelled out what a deep undeniable love is supposed to be like. Painfully so, I felt the desperation in her words. The ache in her scenes. My face was scrunched up as I was reading this, wondering how hearts were still intact. I LOVED this one!! It was SO good!!! This book showcased what was the epitome of a supportive wife, and the lengths two hearts will go through to be with their soulmate. Holy hell. Just wow. I absolutely love when a love is written with so much love. HAHAHA!!! Just kidding....let's try that again. When a love story is written with so much depth, yet the story isn't a Point A - to - Point B scenario, it adds a little more weight to the reality of the situation I am reading and I crave that complexity. This one was very complex because the layers were riddled with facts and emotions, actions and reactions. So, so good. So telling. So arduous. So worthy.

I am certain this is one of Kate Stewart's best solo books to date. Yes, I know - I differentiated solo because I don't honestly think Heartbreak Warfare will ever ever leave me because that book crushed me. So, solo - this one gripped me. I loved Drive, but she knocked me over with Method. I will say that Kate's way of telling this story will probably not be everyone's favorite because of the style, but it really worked rather well for me. It was told as a journey down memory lane with the present tensity that they were currently dealing with. That style isn't always written well and I feel that Kate did an excellent job keeping my curiosity piqued and my heart beating hard!! I think she did the storyline justice by allowing me to get to know these characters but also allowing me to reminisce with them as to how and why they came to be. This one will stay in my heart for a long time...and I just made room on my shelf for my signed copy, because this one is shelf-worthy.

"This, this feeling is what I've been holding out for, it's mine and he gave it to me."

4 1/2 ⭐️’s

“What’s left of the man on my porch is the evidence of a job well done and the cause of our demise.”

Told from dual POV.
Lucas (A-list Hollywood actor) and Mila (sommelier) have been married for 6 years and as the story opens you clearly know their marriage is in trouble.

First impression of Lucas & Mila: I'm devastated for them and I don't even know what's going on. I was sucked in immediately and I FELT their pain.

Trigger: suicide

Stop right now if you don’t want to read information about how the trigger impacts this story.........

If suicide is a trigger for you, this book may be very difficult to read. The story opens with the main character (Lucas) having to deal with the suicide of his best friend Blake. From that point on, this subject is a focal point of the book and the catalyst for Lucas’ behavior. The loss of his friend consumes Lucas and he grapples with the “why” that can never truly be answered, the guilt of wondering if he could have done something to prevent this and the complete devastation that comes from tragically losing someone you love. For someone that has walked in these shoes in real life, the emotions may hit too close to home and you can expect your heart to crack open and bleed due to grief.

The story flips between present, a few months ago and things that happened years ago. I didn’t have a problem flipping between the past and the present, but during the middle of the book I felt like there was just too much “past” and the intensity of the present situation got lost. Therefore I felt the book lost a little bit of its flow and intensity during the middle section and this is primarily the reason I knocked off a 1/2 star.

Once the twist is unveiled (which I didn’t see coming at all) the intensity picks back up and continues through the end of the book. Lucas’ pain is palpable and seeps off the pages. My heart literally broke for him as I understood his quest for answers and a desire to just immerse himself in the lost. The reader doesn’t know Blake in the beginning, but through flashbacks he becomes one of the main characters of the book and by the end of the story I felt like I lost my best friend too. My heart hurt 💔 😭

Life alters when tragedy strikes, but you learn to embrace the precious memories and hold them close to your heart all while finding a new “normal.” Lucas & Mila’s marriage was tested to the very core and in the end they found that you have to be willing to accept who you are, be courageous enough to voice your fears and trust that the person by your side will be your greatest strength in the darkest times. The journey was difficult, but I’m so very glad I was able to walk along side these wonderful characters.

Kate Stewart is an incredible storyteller and this book was MORE THAN addicting. I read it in one night. A unique (COMPLETELY UNIQUE), refreshing, angsty story that demands your attention from start to finish! I’m still processing it, but man... it was so different, so well done, so smart... I’m kind of at a loss for words.

I need to thank my friend Nova for this incredible read! And yes, folks, it IS incredible.

First, I am not a “fan girl” of any author and never will be! That is just not me. If I like a book, I will say so and vice versa when I don’t. So to say that this was an “incredible” read, it is the truth! The writing in itself is 10 stars. Why? Because this is not one of those fluffy or standard romances we typically come across these days. Nope. This was something altogether different because the author has this amazing gift that allowed this reader at least to feel like these were real life characters and that you were right there with them! I felt their pain, love, confusion and every other emotion this couple went through! It was raw and amazing and if anyone knows me, I NEVER say that about ANY book!

So what is the story? It is about an already married couple who are true soulmates and are going through some rough times in their marriage. The Hero is an actor and the tale is about what “method” actors have to go through when they need to go in “character” – but there is also a twist that left this reader at least, flabbergasted because I didn’t see it coming. You’ll know why when you read it.

The story also goes from past to present and that was the only thing I didn’t like because at times, I did not know what part of the “present” they were in and it was both confusing & annoying to be honest. I would have much preferred it the author started with all the “past” first and gone into the “now” but besides that, it was an awesome story that I recommend to EVERYONE!

Now, for anyone who wants to read this book, I will tell you to stop now and don’t read any further because my reviews will always contain spoilers. This is one time that I will tell my GR friends to stop and not read the spoilers because it may ruin the story for you. So, last warning……..

“Show me a perfect man, and I’ll prove you a liar.”

“Dammit. Why did I have to marry an actor!”

“You married a man. A human man. You study the beauty and rarely notice the cracks, it’s easy to with a man as captivating as Lucas. He’ll point them out to you when he’s ready. And you could be the next one to weigh life out. And when that happens, you’ll need him.”

“That’s marriage. On the other side of this is a different future for Lucas and I’m happy for him. Some go through never questioning any part of their existence. I’ve never thought much of Lucas as far as being your equal, but he may just start giving you a run for your money. He’s showing you that what you’ve known isn’t all that he is. It’s kind of exciting.”

5 “Hollywood and Dame” Stars

I knew from reading the prologue that I would be hooked. And hooked I was. Method was a book that grabbed me and took me on a journey full of angst, love, romance, heartache, desire, and raw breathless moments.

This story was different and unique. Told in past and present tense and in alternating POV’s, the story started at a low and anguishing point in Lucas and Mila’s life. The palpitations of their heartbreak resonated in my soul and I knew that I would be reading late into the night trying to find the Why, What, and How did this couple get to this point.

Lucas Walker is a Hollywood Star who by happenstance meets his soulmate, Mila, a wine sommelier. They have a great romance and an even better marriage until a tragic event happens. Lucas is deeply troubled by the death of his friend but doesn’t let Mila in on his struggles. The role of a lifetime comes up and combined with his feelings of guilt and pain, it creates a perfect storm and Mila gets thrown in the middle without a life raft. There is pain and passion and intense emotional drama that is mixed with marvelous and troubling memories of the past.

Marriage is not always easy and I appreciated that the story exposed the good, the bad and the ugly. It also delved into how grief, if not processed in a good way can lead to distress and disturbing actions. It is exhaustive at times but in a wonderful and brilliant way.

While this book was intense, it was also fabulously perfect. It had all the range of emotions. I loved that some previous characters from of Kate’s other book made an appearance and I loved their connection to Lucas. I also loved Mila’s mother in the end for her wisdom. But in all, I loved Mila and Lucas and Kate’s magnificent storytelling.

I have to sleep on this a while before I can write anything about it. Thanks to Paula I decided to read it. It was supposed to be a 5 stars but the last 15% and its attempted twist to shock the reader annoyed me A LOT. I found it pathetic, weak and a cop out to behave as an asshole. IMHO and ignorance on the subject of THE METHOD, I found it completely ridiculous and unbelievable. So I tried really hard to ignore the book subject and focus on the couple’s story. I have so much to say, maybe some day I will. But one thing is for sure, I wish I had a method to ignore things and people for a while blaming in a whole I am playing. LOL. Whoever invented this METHOD deserves an award. It’s the most clever idea to ignore your life for a while. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

WRITTEN in April/2019:
One of those where the blurb makes the book seems interesting, intriguing and smart. LOL
I just "floved" this part of the review "This book wants to be smarter than it actually is and so many writers think that 'artistic license' clears them to play fast and loose with the facts. The load of pseudo-psychological codswallop at one point …" It describes most of the books published in this so called romance genre.
And for his secret, isn't often talked about how much (very much) it happens in the "industry"? It's a choice you make, grow up and move on. If you wanted fame so much you thought it was worthy to do it, why make it an issue in the future? Just my humble opinion

Whiny insecure man-child with tendency to be over-melodramatic and his slave for life aka wife, who sacrificed a lot for him.
I don't find it admirable or romantic, when a woman makes sacrifices for a man. If she wanted someone to take care of, she could better adopt an animal from a shelter, honestly, better option to make a difference in this world.
Drama-lama based on what? At 22% I don't give a flying fork, what his/theirs(?) secret is...
Hollywood my ass 🙄
