Ylang in Gold by M. Micallef is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Ylang in Gold was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Astier. Top notes are Fruity Notes, Peach, Litchi, Sage, Tangerine, Rosemary, Artemisia, Geranium and Bitter Orange; middle notes are Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Mint, Magnolia, Rose and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Vanille, Coconut, Musk and Oakmoss.

Ylang in Gold was introduced to the public in 2012, part of the COLLECTION JEWEL. Ylang-ylang plays a special role in Micallef's recent releases. The notes of this fragrance were kept a secret until launch.

Ylang in Gold is composed of a balanced floral bouquet warmed by sunny notes evoking the islands: ylang-ylang, sandalwood, coconut and vanilla. Applied to the skin, Ylang in Gold leaves a delicate and refined pearly-golden veil that shimmers on the skin. Available as 100 ml EDP

...I smell mothballs, or some eucalyptus scent. Maybe it's the aromatics. Not impressed at all. Not even a like.

MichelleSouza

I have Armani Prive Rouge Malachite, just bought it, but would like to know, if anyone would be willing to exchange it for a Ylang in Gold. Please DM me if interested

heresomeflowers

I don’t see a lot of discussion about it, but I wonder if inhaling the dust particles found in Ylang in Gold has any adverse health effects, whether temporary or life-long. Cos I know humans shouldn’t be inhaling metallic dust particles or even nacre particles as it can have bad effects healthwise. I’ve been coveting this perfume since last year and I’m thisclose to purchasing it, but this one question has come up to me lately. Please enlighten me, YiG lovers, and if brand has addressed this in any way before.

scissorhandedly

So pretty! It's girly and modern yet elegant. Dries down beautifully on my skin. I don't like stereotypically feminine florals, but I think I'll be getting myself a bottle.

Kjkoni

Such a pretty, tropical scent. I really enjoy the warmth of the vanilla and coconut mixed with the tropical fruits and ylang ylang, but the shimmer added to this perfume is just not something that I can get behind or even understand. This is not a body mist- this is a high priced, elegant tropical perfume. Why ruin it like this? I passed it along to my 22 year old daughter, the glittery finish seems better suited for her.

shoujomarina

I think If you enjoy Dama Bianca, you'd like this. its a elegant and dainty ylang ylang, tropical banana essence for the summer. feels ethereal and unique - smells how the bottle looks : golden yellow aura

LoreinaL

I really wanted to like this fragrance but unfortunately, it was not a match for me. The level of sweetness was extremely heavy which to me, made it smell cheap and juvenile. The opening notes were nice, with peach really standing out and nothing else. On the dry down though, you are left with what smells like vanilla ice cream with banana topping. There isn't an ounce of sophistication in this fragrance, and is geared more towards a young girl. If you love heavy gourmand, sweet (to the point of being sickening) fragrances, I suggest you give this a try. If you're looking for a classic, elevated scent, then keep looking because this is not for you.

snopea

smooth creamy coconut milk banana pudding and full, sweet ylang ylang. i’m obsessed w her

Mc1995

Don’t let the notes pyramid fool you, this is very much vanilla and coconut with some ylang ylang. Peach might be doing something in there. It’s pretty and pleasant but very overpriced for what it gives. Does not smell like Artemisia, rosemary or mint, not that complex. All the girls saying “it’s so old lady and too much” must not have smelled anything outside of bath and body works or celebrity perfumes, because this isn’t complex. Micallef has great bottles and that’s their focus but the fragrances aren’t amazing. Just nice. Almost immediately It’s like next day Chopard Casmir(I got for 17$ sealed on fragrancenet)

I wanted to love this so badly. From the reviews and the notes on the page, I was expecting a sweet and fruity yellow tropical scent, rich and intoxicating, so I ordered a sample as I thought it would be right up my alley. Instead I’m stuck here wrecking my brain as to where everyone has been finding all these different scents when all I get is talc powder, straight out of my grandma’s boudoir. Not fresh or sweet at all, nearly suffocating as though I had inhaled a cloud of powder. I would never spend the money on a larger bottle

kelsey_96

A very generic banana-coconut-kind of flowery candy. Which is probably full of toxic chemicals. Don't love it

Patrice 123

This is Casmir. I literally cannot tell the difference.

Queenshaboo

Tried 3 Ylang frags (Chloe Ylang Cananga, Micallef Ylang in Gold, Perris Monte Carlo Nosy Be). This one was the most gourmand and least likable of the 3. Starts off warm and cozy but progresses to more of a synthetic leaning coconut, banana bubblegum and musk than actual ylang. I’m surprised the Chloe gets criticised for being one dimensional when this is by far the least impressive/ deep of the 3. For gourmand lovers tho this is a no brainer.

rosewoodoud555

Heavenly, intoxicating, sensual, sexy, and sophisticated. I love ylang and vanilla, and Ylang in Gold is perfect. Silky smooth, airy, and not too sweet. Lactomic and creamy. To me, this is a date fragrance, specifically on a summer vacation at night. It's great for special ocassions too. But it's definitely one for all seasons, cold and warm. It has a balanced scent profile and far from cloying or heavy, so it's the ideal gourmand for summer. People told me it smells like vanilla ice cream or a dessert. I got the 100ml+travel size set for 190SGD and it's so worth it. It's not a beast mode frag, it's soft, with weaker projection, but I don't mind it. But if someone hugs you, they'll definitely notice how yummy you smell.

Update: Wore this in cool, rainy weather and it's so cozy and delicious. You can never overspray this as it's so soft. So gorgeous, the vanilla is musky, slightly woody... what a masterpiece. Makes me feel so beautiful, put together, but not trying too hard. The downside: performance is weak! It's base heavy, so it doesn't project and the sillage is tiny. Longevity on me is around 6-8 hours only. I wish they would make Ylang in Gold Intense!

Celestya

A winter perfume for ylang and vanilla lovers. Excellent silage and longevity with my skin. Bold!!

autumnblue914

Beautifully blended tropical vanilla custard. Rich and creamy but at the same time airy and light, elegant and refined.

Perfect vacation scent, however I also find it extremely versatile for any season and occasion.

Tapinview

I’m late to the Ylang in Gold party. In fact I assumed I’d like YY Nosey Be the most when I got samples, deciding that ylang was it this summer, but no, I love the more pronounced light fruity vanillic sweetness of this one. YY suffers a bit from perhaps being dealt with old fashioned and Chanel yellow floral aldehydes-ish, but the luxurious oil, produced copiously from huge floppy profligate yellow flowers on a jungle tree dripping and steaming in the humid heat, smells utterly divine. This is a gorgeous rendition of the turgid tropical beauty of ylang but lightened by a tiny woody touch and heaps of sweet vanilla. A perfect floral oriental. I do have the classic Casmir and yes it is very much closely related, but YIGold is lighter, airier, more sweetly vanillic, much less soupy, more modern. It truly is golden.

lmnsvgz

Oily banana milkshake with coconut flakes. The base is similar to Casmir

Rozalina

Just buy Chopard's Casimir and save yourself $100+.

emgailba

You're a vanilla-scented banana wearing an evening gown and hoping the evening turns romantic. Ridiculous, but it works somehow--equal parts tropical candy and sweetly elegant woman. I bought a bottle of this.

Myrtillajus

Fragrance where fruity notes alternate with aromatic ones, and then a wonderful Ylang Ylang explodes, accompanied by sweet and exotic notes.
Yes, it's true, this sweet/aromatic contrast is present, but I find it extremely pleasant. For Summer, it brings out all the femininity within us, just as Ylang Ylang is believed to do.
A legend says that this plant was born from a girl generated by two parents who, unable to procreate, turned to a shaman, who granted them this beautiful daughter, on the condition that no man would ever touch her. The girl, however, fell madly in love with a boy who, handing her a bouquet of very fragrant flowers, touched her hand, transforming her into the Ylang-Ylang tree, forever embodying the smells of all the flowers in the world.

Rober7a

How can so many notes turn into such a simple banana-like yellow floral? I'd like to know what they were aiming for while making this. Maybe my nose is not so well trained to detect more notes, because all I smell is dry overripe banana with some sandalwood and musk. Not unpleasant, I'm not mad at this, but it's so basic and overhyped. Doesn't last long either. I both love and hate when I get disappointed by a hyped scent, on one had I wanted to smell something incredible, but on the other this is much easier on my wallet. Cuz if I fell inlove with it like others did, then I would need to buy it, and it's not that cheap, haha. ;D

Fruit-chan

Insane amount of notes in this one.It smells like Ponstan syrup to me.Also I find it similar to Love dont be shy but less animalic. Not a favorite.

JrossiLeFleur

This straight up smells like banana candy 🍌, yellow flowers 🌼, coconut 🥥, and white musk 🦌. When I smell it it’s almost like I have a banana Runt candy in my mouth. Very different. Unlike anything I can recall smelling before…interesting, but not for me.

Elle's Bells

Wore this again today and I just have to have it. On me, YiG comes off as a warm, silky tropical vanilla. And then it dries down to the most beautiful, soft floral vanilla. To my nose, the dry down closely resembled they dry down of Ani-without the spice. Lasted @ 9 hours. I'm in love. FB on the way!

Laynie_Scents

It’s the mint note that I love! It adds a cool and refreshing elegance!

Sbg9s

Hear me out... Ylang in Gold, layered with Dior's Hypnotic Poison (edt) = <3 <3 <3

dipisor

A much more airier, therefore, wearable version of Chopard Casmir. Smells like a luxurious vacation. Perfect for summer. Just lovely.

Selenity

This smells like a greasy coconut. I always wondered what people meant when they said something smelled like sunscreen, or a beach scent, etc. I’m pretty sure this is it. If you like that vibe, it’s for you. I’m Carribbean so it smells like a synthetic, superficial, manicured take on a beach. Like a Sandals commercial.

Catmo

I almost just didn’t buy this because it’s rated/compared so similarly to Casmir Chopard which I own. I do love Casmir but I don’t LOVE it. I think this one is actually a love for me though. It’s basically tropical peach and coconut with heavy Ylang. Obsessed. Would be amazing for summer nights.

aaronmy

In the opening, I smell a lot of florals and fruits for the first 30 minutes. Afterwards, this smells smooth, creamy, and sweet, like yellow cake. There's a banana vibe to this that I actually love a lot. This smells awesome!

vitalija899

I have been using them for many years. Warm, sweet, cozy, fruity, vanilla aroma.

Vicschmidtscents

Banana scented plasticy musk. It makes you feel like you’re happily sunbathing next to the pool.

Lalunalynn

So I have just bought this after a one test wear because it was an absolute love at first sniff!! This never happens to me. Only other frag I have had it with is D&G Velvet Amber Skin. Instant wow. Anyway, I have been wracking my brain trying to think of what this reminds me of, and I've just seen it in the smell-a-like list. It smell just like Casmir - Chopard. But not today's formulation, it smells like the OG from back in the 90s. In fact, this smells more like the OG than the current formulation of Casmir! I used to wear it all the time and absolutely loved it. This is almost identical to it, but it is in no way the beast that Casmir was, its softer on projection sadly, and not as spicy. It's like a really creamy, soft-spicy-vanilla suntan lotion, but I feel this can be worn all year round. Yes it's expensive, but I am in luuuuvvve! 😍

morejmh

This was an instant hit for me. That said, it does smell a little like Hawaiian Tropic tanning oil and bug spray (but in the best way possible). To me, this is the perfect beach vacation scent.

mizzhoopz

I think it's a nice smell. I got it wayyy overpriced for the quality of it. All I smell is straight up ylang ylang, vanilla, coconut, lily of the valley, musk and a tiny hint of mint. I don't smell any of the fruit notes at all. It starts strong but becomes very soft. I won't repurchase for the price.

Flared Maple

Honestly I was expecting more, given the hype around this fragrance.

I smells like a nice sun tanning oil, which is great and all, but really not that special.
And when I want to smell like sun tanning oil I'm usually wearing sun tanning oil... and thus already smelling like suntanning oil.

It's fine. I'll probably finish the decant I got in the summer and then move on.

Smackk

I bought this for my wife and really like it on her. It reminds me of the girls at the beach wearing that Hawaiian Tropic sun tanning oil/lotion...

johnsoneva115

Screech alert! So, so, so, so, so grating. I don't get it. I ordered a tester because the bottle is so opulent and gorgeous, it's the type of packaging that makes you feel like a princess, so I wanted to love the fragrance. It smells like banana scented highlighter to me. Very very strong, also a gasoline note snuck in, a little edge of halitosis as well.

grafgr

Longevity and sillage are ok and this is definitely a beautiful scent. However, there's a plasticky edge to the coconut I can't get over, this is not the plastic dollhead effect I weirdly love in the right fragrance. So it's an overall meh for me.

Nimu

It smells like a medicine.I don't like it.

clairdelune

This is nearly a dead ringer for Chopard's Casmir but is perhaps slightly smoother (Casmir has a light edge to it, especially in the opening) and somehow sweeter, which is really saying something as Casmir is quite sweet. Still, the two seem to be cut from the same cloth. If you like a very sweet, fruity, floral, vanilla, you'd likely love this. For those who don't like a very (and I mean VERY) sweet scent, this will be too much. I prefer the Casmir.
Update: Many hours later this is still with me in a big way. In fact, it was a bit overwhelming (so sweet) and I tried to wash it off without success, so if you're looking for tenacity, this might be right up your alley.

niyatron

Starts off very old ladyish but it dries down to a beautiful creamy banana custard with a hint of coconut. It has a very frolicking through a flower field vibe.

ikensmelll

My husband LOVES this on me! He says it smells like cream chocolate candy, and if he could smell it everyday, he’d be in heaven. One time he said, “You smell so delicious, I just wanna take a bite!” And bit me (gently). Lol soooo it’s a win for me 😉.

GwenH

This has been a favourite of mine for so, so long!

I remember when I first got a sample, YEARS back, and my first impression was that it was warm, rich, addictive and head-turningly sweet. I hadn't smelt a lot of niche perfumes at that point, and this definitely was one of the most deliciously sensual ones that I had tried - but in a mature way. Unlike many designers I had in my collection, Ylang in Gold smelt like the very essence of a sexy, confident Woman and not a Girl.

Recently, I sampled YiG in Mexico and my partner liked it ...but immediately said I smelt like candied bananas.
I went back to the sample, to see if it was maybe my skin chemistry, and to my dismay he was not only correct but spot freaking on.
Suddenly I couldn't get the thought profile of marshmallow bananarama candy out of my mind and it has remained that way ever since.

I will always love this fragrance. But I think he ruined it for me to FB grab.

astralmonad870

Top 3 Ylang-Ylang scents:
1) Ylang ylang Nosy Be by Perris Monte Carlo
2) M. Micallef Ylang in Gold
3) Le Labo Ylang 49

Combining vanilla with ylang ylang is always a wise move because it brings out the smooth creamy custard quality of the flower. I put on ylang ylang scents in the middle of the dark dreary winter when I want to smell like sunshine.

PerfumePixie87

This is the colour yellow in a scent. Sunshine, ylang ylang and banana custard. Tropical yet powdery and comforting. In the dry down, the coconut comes through strongly on my skin. It smells like sun tan lotion and tropical beach holidays.

JaimsSith

Smells like bug spray til it dries down and then it's pleasant

mckfly24

Started off a "hell no" tart floral old lady mixed with heavy gasoline/tire scent but shockingly turned into a warm creamy vanillic fragrance but unfortunately that mechanics garage smell still lingers. I totally get the Vanilla fields comparison, takes me back to high school when all the girls were wearing it... Only this girl also has cigarette smoke in her hair.

melimelo87

Screechy nail varnish opening, but after 3 minutes or so it dries down and you smell a delicious banana and coconut smoothie. This would be great for a summer frags, would not wear this one on a daily basis and I find it suitable for a younger crowd. Not bad, but too girlie for my taste. Decent longevity and a 2 hour projection on my skin.

YuXinSun

I can see how it can be exciting fragrance for some people. For me the ylang-ylang is way to overpowering. It's because of this fragrance that I figured i'm not a fan of ylang-ylang, smells like overripe fruit on me. At the same time, having super heavy ylang ylang, I don't get any other notes almost! Maybe a little bit of sandalwood. Where is the coconut in the base? Where is the peach in the opening? Lychee? Mint? I don't get none of that. It's a no for me.

katemax

I got an 8ml of this from fragrance subscription site pafory. If your in Europe give them a go it cost me just under €5 for an 8ml, spray bottle to put it in and a free 8ml of bon perfumer 501. I'm thrilled. It only took a week to arrive to the UK from Germany. Ylang in Gold is gorgeous, like a luxury choppard cashmir

AkaNeri

Got my sample from Micallef site with the purchase of other fragrance - it's very nice! Not sure if a FB worthy or not - probably not 100ml.
I wanted to try some more affordable alternatives, so I bought Chopard Casmir - to my nose they are similar, but Chopard has some vintagy note, that bothers me for the first 30-60 minutes. I'd go with Ylang in Gold.

amg7613

This perfume is an absolutely lovely, mouthwatering lush tropical scent with ylang ylang at the top (which adds the banana scent). You can catch the blast of fruit at top also, but I would not describe necessarily as fruity. It dries into a creamy and decadent delight with the coconut and vanilla.
Although I love this fragrance and think it is beautifully done, it is quite strong. A couple of sprays will do it for the day. I also have Hanae Mori (which is said to be a dupe), and while they are similar - Hanae is much more subdued (ie better for the office) and has its place.

Peachie

I got a sample of this with my order. When I first tried it the sample bottle was still very new and it only gave me about half a spray. I immeaditely fell in love with the scent! It smelled so amazing, cozy and I really liked the creamy vanilla with some floral. I already planned on buying a full bottle of this! But the next day when I tried this again the bottle gave me a full spray and I noticed that this was actually quite strong. I wore it about 5 hours before I had to try to wash it away because it made me feel sick. The scent was absolutely horrible and only thing I could smell was something creamy. I felt like I was drowning in the creaminess. Now this scent just makes me feel sick if I try to use it.

SartorialFireflies

This smells lovely, but for some reason it burns my nose even long after application: like the sensation of smelling rubbing alcohol but without the scent of it. This sadly puts it in the scrubber pile for me despite being otherwise extremely pleasant: soft, bright, and very yellow.

apeir0n

I love vanilla and tropical flowers but I cannot like this one at all. I've bought my travel size directly from Micallef with other perfumes I loved. This one has a burnt tire smell that hits my nose and I cannot stand it. To me, the Chopard version is much more pleasant.

nebbe

Banana and bubblegum with a sweet, oily dry down. Not for me, but my friends love it.

AlinkaSun

OMG! This is so sensual and alluring but at the same time light and airy. Very feminine. I am in love from first sniff…it was a blind buy and I am happy I took a chance.
All notes blended to such perfection that its hard to point out separate ones in this composition. It’s definitely smokey (incense like note, probably from sandalwood), I get vanilla and coconut cream, tropical touch of Ylang ylang, musk, magnolia and lily….and so much more…there are definitely fruits in composition
It’s heavenly and it’s very complex, each time you smell you pick up different dimension of this perfume
This perfume is especially awesome to wear in warm weather! It gives sunny/tropical/beach paradise vibes.
Quality and performance are decent. On my skin it last 6-8 hours for sure and projects far enough for people to notice…
I think this is a must in every fragrance collection

AutumnJewel

Note For Myself:
Definitely complex, keep sniffing and you’ll continue to smell different things … I can see how someone has said a banana sundae but it’s much more expensive than that and not straight up banana . Almost leaning “old lady” but not. I’d definitely sample it again before considering buying .

Katalia

In the beginning, it reminds me of insect repellent, maybe nail polish remover. I find the initial notes very unpleasant. Later it turns into a really bland, sweet, soapy smell, that isn't necessarily unpleasant, it's just boring. I cannot smell the coconut or citruses.

Natalisa

Gentle vanilla, some creamy flowers (maybe it's Ylang?), tropical fruits envelop you in a sensual exotic embrace. The dry down is soft and creamy. It is feminine, smiling, joyful, and carefree. I've not tested the Nectar version yet, but I am sure I'll fall in love too. And here, all the puzzles came together - the name, the form factor, and the juice. It reminds me of liquid sunlight sealed in a bottle, shimmering and gold ☀️

iszzieanna

To me this smells ultra creamy. I don’t get any vanilla or coconut. Instead I get a peachy-sandalwood concoction. It’s quite nice. The dustiness of the sandalwood evens out the fruitiness in the scent.

Sanrio

It's Casmir with a slightly more banana/tropical opening. I don't get a lot of peach or coconut specifically.

It's nice, but a lot heavier and cold-weather oriented than I thought.. and very smoldering and sexy.

Not me, but it's nice. Not sure if I could justify the price given the similarity to Casmir.

cherubi rubi

232
This has the highest similarity to casmir. It’s a little smoother and fruitier but the casmir creamy ylang is there.

I was considering a bottle of this because my casmir bottle is small; however, what really turned me off from this fragrance is the glitter inside. I don’t want to have this on my skin and it stains fabric. Too bad or good, saved me money. Now I remember why I didn’t go for a sample of this a long time ago. I’ll just get another casmir and something else with that $

8/10-very much like casmir, hate the glitter

legitaurora

Tried a sample of this. It starts off with a very floral (ylang) too note then slowly transitions into something fruity. After an hour, it became a very addicting, powdery fruity vanilla scent. I thought I wouldn’t like it because of its strong floral top note but I am definitely loving its dry down. Someone very chic, innocent and cute would suit this.

karinatfragrantica

Creamy, dense, tropical. A nice blend of ylang-ylang and coconut. Too sweet for my taste but I can see why it is so liked.

JurguneL

I had this perfume for two years now and I tried again and again to make myself to love it, but dry down makes me nauseous. I think it's coconut

Siv7Stars

I get the banana custard vibes but this is so faint on me I don't think I will bother, I'd have to drown myself in it. I also tried the Nectar one & no massive difference or v much stronger. I nearly blind bought this as well. Bottle is so very pretty though. I still kinda want it, but it's dropped way down the list.
Found the sample again & used the last of it before bed. The next morning my son gave me a hug & said "You smell so nice." So it's now top of the list again, lol. The performance must be decent to last all night. It is creamy bananery ylang heaven. I'll have to wait til xmas now though.

cisliev

This is a very beautiful powdery and lactonic fragrance. It smells exactly like banana custard. The only thing is, it doesn't project that well. It only projects on the first few minutes after spraying, and becomes a skin scent after an hour. This fragrance lasts 4-6 hours on me (but on an intimate level), but sometimes, it just completely disappears in less than an hour. If you want to make a statement with this perfume, you need to be generous with your spraying.

If you were to ask me if this is a safe blind buy, definitely a BIG YES! It is a unique fragrance, but still in most people's comfort zones.

maziarzl

Ylang-Ylang and Sandalwood….beautiful combination. Smells creamy and tropical with a hint of musk. My signature scent.

jassca99

First purchase and blind buy that was exactly what I thought it would be, based on reviews. Whiffs of banana vanilla custard while on a tropical vacation, mixed with beach air and sun rays, some powderiness, exactly that! And I don’t love banana but it isn’t too literal or much here. The mint really lightens the fragrance and is balanced. Really happy I don’t get much of the other herbs here. I can see how few people get acetone though, but it never gets to that point for me. I feel as if wearing this in cold weather might bring that feature out more, although I think this works year round. I also feel as if people are getting a tinge of metal, like the smell of gold if that makes sense, when they say that. Like when you purchase gold glitter/flecks, Ylang in Gold is the exact smell you get when you open that container. That scent appears once in a while but I like it, as it offers a “uniqueness”, and it’s just so warm and delicious. The projection is also better outside than inside but after some hours, it does draw closer to the skin. I’ll reserve this for spring and summer or whenever the sun is hitting and the air is warm since this makes me feel and smell literally golden.

Also no this does not smell anything like Xerjoff Lira. This smells like a summer Bond no. 9 New York nights.

Mizi

Where do I even begin with this quality blend? I love it, no surprise here since 51 by Roja is my signature and I find Ylang in Gold similar, like a cousin. The difference between them, to me, is that 51 is a bit zingier and fresher and Ylang mellow and warm. Both beautiful!
Now back to Ylang in Gold. It opens on me with vanilla and musk, then after 1h goes into something like when you’re on a tropical island and air smells fruity, salty and warm. Then hours later what’s left is this high quality warm vanilla fruity Ylang scent with just a touch of magnolia. So calming, so comforting, so special. The quality of ingredients is really high, like I can assure you you won’t find many perfumes for that price of that excellence. If you haven’t tried it yet, do! :) ps. Last easily 8h but won’t project for long, only maybe 1-2 h after spraying…

adice

I wore Hanae Mori in my late teens and early 20's (we're talking like 20+ years ago at this point) and this is very similar to how that smelled imho but ylang has a stronger minty/herbal aspect. Smells great but this brand is very expensive. For how expensive it is it doesn't project very strong or last very long...I get about 4 to 5 hours and it's a skin scent after an hour.

The bottle is stunning.

debra0503

It smells like the golden hour on a fairy island, I mean, it doesn't smell like the reality

Goddess81

This is my first post but I find this perfume to smell similar to Xerjoff Lira. I could even layer them for a more lasting impact. I wear Ylang Ylang gold in the winter and early spring but dont get any banana cream smells from it. More flowery with an undertone of vanilla. I am not sure if I care for the ylang ylang now and this scent only lasts 2 or 3 hours on me much more of a skin scent. The lira is also quickly fading so certain scents dont last long on me or I cant smell certain notes as well as others. Good to know when spending alot of money on perfume.

nepria

Gorgeous perfume! All I get is a mix of a Ylang-ylang, peach, and vanilla which I love! A sweet, juicy addictive scent, beautiful for summer, for happy days, when you just want to feel beautiful youthful, and divine. The sun is shining life is great and you smell like this juiciest peach in the world while laying on a pile of ylang-ylang flowers under the tropical sun. And the gold shimmer... OMG can this be more goddess-like than this??? The shimmer details are so small, it's the nices gold dust on your skin that you could ever get, and in the sun it shines so nicely, your skin looks luminous, sparkling, just perfect! It's a perfume of pure joy and happiness in summer!
I don't know if this has any similarities with Casmir because I don't own it, but I saw that Casmir doesn't have a lot of positive comments, so I doubt the huge similarities that people here suggest because Ylang in Gold is just tropical perfection in a bottle!

SailorV

This is very close to Chopard Cašmir, so it's hard to write a review without comparing them, but I'll give it a try for those who haven't tried Cašmir yet:
This is a sunny, happy vanilla scent with an airy, creamy ylang-ylang that is especially prominent in the opening along fruity notes like peach. In the heart powdery florals come out to play and give the scent a face powder vibe, but in the end the vanilla wins over them. Everything has a dry, almost dusty overlay of coconut and sandalwood that make this a little less summery than the notes suggest. This is not a beachy or very foody coconut. I can't detect any of the green and herbal notes from the list.

For those who do know Cašmir, I think this is a more fine-tuned, modern version of the same concept with the amped-up ylang-ylang and fresher fruit notes. This is not as oriental and balsamic as Cašmir, instead it has a tropical feel, so it doesn't feel that wintery.

I have a (now very low) bottle of Cašmir in my collection for over a decade and don't plan to repurchase something very similar when I finish it, but I still really enjoy the general scent profile. Ylang in Gold is more sophisticated and nuanced and feels softer in character, but not necessarily weaker. If I had to chose between the two now, I would pick this. If you haven't tried both, definitely do before you decide if the big price difference is worth it to you.

*loves_shoes*

Fruity ylang ylang.
It also has a synthetic feel, the type that gets in your nose. Maybe it’s the vanilla mixed with coconut, although I can’t individually smell the coconut which is a shame, just that synthetic vibe you get when they are mixed. And maybe a hint of plastic dolls head.
It’s nice enough, but nothing to write home about. Doesn’t project much.
I’d be happy enough if I’d blind bought it at a discount, but now that I’ve smelled it I wouldn’t buy it even at a discount.

CrazyRussianChick

Amazing fragrance and absolutely gorgeous bottle! Blind buy as usual. Upon the first application I knew I’ve already smelled it before! Further “digging” confirmed my suspicions: Hanae Morí! One definitely doesn’t need both, unless your nose is so fine tuned, you can catch nuances… I’m gonna be keeping this one - I’m a sucker for the bottle!
All that liquid “gold” in it creates beautiful shimmer on the skin. Glad I didn’t spray it on white blouse :)

ScentFan2021

I can barely smell anything.

Kaylovely

I want a sample, always heard it smells like banana and I really need a good banana scent. We will see...

YLC629

I so wanted to love this one. But on my skin, it opened up with a blast of sage and artemesia and it was truly disgusting. I let it sit for a bit but it was just bad and I had to scrub it off

A Fragrant Life

This is tropical, vanilla heaven. It has the same thick smoothness that Lira does on my skin, except this is a balmier, more tropical take on that fragrance. Instead of citrus, there is a touch of mint in the opening but that doesn’t last long in either fragrance.

buonobi

I got an official sample.
On my skin, it's a lovely, creamy ylang-ylang scent.
I wish it lasts longer!!!!!
This lasts on my skin for 4 hours and mostly skin scent..
Projection is just around 1 hour.

Will try it again in summer.
Gold shimmers+ creamy ylangylang = perfect for summer!

poppybell

Sweet Jasmine. I am in love with this classic iconic fragrance. If you enjoy Jasmine this is a dream for you! This is a masterpiece from the packaging, the bottle to the shimmering golden juice that is intoxicating. This is a scent of a beautiful woman who doesn’t need attention from anyone because she knows she is beautiful inside and out.

Crystalita76

“ The Boxer Dropper “ - if any of the ladies here are looking to catch you a man. I strongly suggest this fragrance.
Even if you don’t like it. You’re man- men - or soon to be man will love it.
I put this on before going to dinner with the hubbie. He hadn’t smelled it yet. By the time we got into the car he was looking at me like I was an steak on a platter waiting to be devoured. Literally, I thought he’d bite this time 😳
The entire night he kept sniffing and sniffing me telling me “ you are in trouble little girl” 😳😳
Micallef should put a warning label on this one and Mon Cristal. And I mean big time.
Statistics say- Vanille is the most loved fragrance by men.
This one has loads of Vanille and Ylang Ylang.
Personally, I love it.
But I can see where some might find it too much because this is a Vanille and Ylang Ylang atomic bomb.
In a sexy and classy way 👌🏻

olliesmom

Bottle is so pretty. Be dazzled in Swarovski crystal and the juice is yellow and has shimmer too. It sits beautifully in my cabinet.

Scent wise, this was not love at first sniff for me. Reminds me a bit of nail polish airy vanilla with fruity nuisance when sniff from source, but sillage is amazing. This is all about sillage.

If you wanna smell amazing and leaves beautiful scent trail this is the perfume for you. Man would go oh lala, but if he gets too close he may think you just put nail polish on.

yeah__books

It’s okay - but it doesn’t smell expensive and it kind of is. It’s really sweet and smells like how I imagine a little girl to smell in summer; rather sweet and cloying. I wouldn’t buy a full bottle, though I’m always on the hunt for a good summer frag.

ilayda

I love the sparkly juice!!! Besides that the smell is lovely, its a super sweet tropical vanilla that smells strongly of ylang ylang. Its very fruity with notes of coconut peach and litchi. I dont get the yellow floral accord that is described but I dont mind and think it would be headache inducing if it was overtly present. The drydown is stll very sweet but more powdery and woody and the sandalwood becomes easily identifiable. In all its a nice comforting tropical, slightly sunscreen smelling scent.

emerson10

I want to love this so much -- in theory it's a more tropical Hanae Mori, BUT the words nail polish remover popped into my head and I cannot unsmell it.

singlehandedbeauty

Ylang in Gold is a beautiful tropical-floral fragrance that is perfect for warm weather. On me, it is very floral dominant with a touch of vanillic sweetness. The first blast has a slight plastic doll-head vibe, but it quickly smooths itself out and creates a lovely close-to-the-skin aura that mixes well with warm skin. Projection is more on the discrete side, so it would be better suited for people who like lighter, airier scents. If the longevity were better, I might consider it, but for the price, I need it to last for more than a few hours.

YlangLover0912

Everything is beautiful about this perfume.

On my skin , the sillage and longevity were discrete.
After 20 min the scent of this perfume turns creamy, sweet , like a dessert.

The liquid feels like a dry oil Body mist, and my skin quickly absorbed it.

I think that the longevity of this perfume was about 3 hours.
The projection I could only perceived it close to the skin.

It is beautiful but I wouldn’t buy it because in my opinion is pricy and it wouldn’t last in my collection.

itsalwayssunnyd

In my opinion, far far *far* too similar to Casmir by Chopard to warrant the price. Very disappointed - admittedly, its less balsamic and vintage smelling, but its similar enough that I don't see why this has wowed so many fragrance reviewers. Definitely not a dupe, but 80% similar, and Casmir is 1/10th of the price. Nothing about this scent is original, new, groundbreaking or breathtaking, its just the late 80s/early 90s in a perfume. Maybe some people haven't experienced 90s perfumes? I just keep smelling my arm and watching fragrance reviews and thinking to myself...we *cannot* be talking about the same fragrance?? I cannot believe how overhyped this fragrance is. I mean, Casmir by Chopard is one of those perfumes that fragrancenet always has, and its been around so long that most people have likely smelled it on others, even if they don't know they have, that this is really puzzling to me. its gonna keep me up at night folks. save your money on this one

AurelieGeuz

I wanted to love this so bad.
I blind bought this after seeing a lot of positive reviews. I have to say the customer care of micallef is the best 1 I have ever seen. My package was nicely wrapped and they gave me a lot of samples amd some little presents. So I will definitely order from the brand again.
However this scent has something of-putting for me. I Smell too much musk on my skin. I will try this out a little longer… maybe I will change my mind.

adelaidesandrina

This is how i always imagined what salvador dali’s paintings smell like

Mangaetteok

Ah, it's not as full on as Mancera Holidays, & is more beautiful for it - love this, although it's not my usual thing. It reminds of spending ten days in Ko Samui, a while ago - wherever we went back to our villa mid afternoon, the scent of the ylang flowers would permeate through the sun drenched air, in an almost narcotic way, (I hv red hair, green eyes, & cannot tan - the weather there is challenging for me - it makes me tired,) but I always thought how lovely those flowers were in the mid afternoon heat, the scent was so uplifting & a little unexpected. The mint & artemisia in this also remind me of that holiday, this whole composition reminds me of islands in Thailand - & they themselves are so different from other parts of East Asia - this couldn't be mistaken for another perfume I think - even if it reminds some ppl of parts of other perfumes it's pretty unique bc it's quite subtle comparably - it has a nice balance to it - that keeps it refined & beautiful.

Personally, I don't like peach in perfumes, & find Chopped Casmir good on others but could never wear it - too sandalwood/ambre forward, & a bit too vintage - but the tiny amount of peach in this doesn't bother me at all, & this doesn't hv a vintage vibe I don't think, I wasn't familiar with Vanilla Fields, although I was born in the mid eighties - this is vanille in the base, & gorgeous with it - but though it has a similarity with Hanae Mori Butterfly (blue) - this is much better, I feel.

Maybe it's a smidgen overpriced, for what it is, but it's v good quality - many M Micallef hv far too much of an Arabian perfume vibe for me, & some are so super sweet I just wouldn't wear them - myself I love many East Asian perfumes, & very clean perfumes, but this is my favourite of this brand, & of the v sweet perfumes - it is, quite sweet, but doesn't overstep what I find bearable - although this is not something I wear in the daytime - it's a nighttime perfume for me & something I enjoy on occasion - am sure it's signature scent worthy, if that's what you want - but that sweetness would be too much for me day to day, & it's a little full on for daytime, for me, & I wear so many perfumes - it's nice to hv some with different vibes for evenings I think, so I use this when the occasion suits.

When I say full on - it's not full on, as Holidays or similar is - this is more refined, more subtle - wear lightly & it's beautiful - too much though, would be cloying - is it niche quality? Kind of yes - if you can get it for a decent price & it is what you want, then it's pretty good; I wouldn't pay actual full price for it - occasionally the discounters had it though, so I decided it was worth trying. Ylang itself is often something which makes perfumes smell 'vintage- & is to be avoided mostly, for me- but here it works so well - almost a tinge of banana pudding with a little caramel -
which is literally the vibe of those flowers in Ko Samui & the other islands nearby - & all over a beautiful vanille base, nothing cheap about that vanille either, as some of the recent designer releases in the extreme drydown reveal an almost celebrity perfume base - lookinv at JPG La Belle for example, (that base, ouf..) & with a tiny hint of oakmoss which is charming - this has a lovely layered & rich but not too rich vanille base, it's so good.

A true vacation inspired perfume - an island vacation in a bottle - & during these rubbish pandemic restrictions it's been nice to hv a little armchair travel by way of this perfume. Beautiful bottle too - & the 'gold glitter' isn't too much so, on the bottle, or on your skin,
at all. All is fairly restrained - it's luxurious, in a chic way - nothing to obvious, as long as you apply with a light hand - whereas some v sweet vanille perfumes are too much, too 'try-hard' - this is elegant & beautiful with a sweet vanille vibe.

Sierra Rosa

Tsatsenskaya

This is autumn on a tropical island. Or winter. Older than 30 yo. Feminine. Upper scale. Certainly not for everyone, but suits me well. This gem has been in my life for over 2 years and the appreciation has grown with time.

Christen1234

This is a beautiful, captivating fragrance. The initial blast smells, somehow, both fresh and rich at the same time. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me personally. It dries down to a very heavy, creamy vanilla and cedar base that is just a little too thick for me. There is something about the dry down and sillage that reminds me of vintage Vanilla Fields (although admittedly I haven't smelled that one in years, but it's what I think of). That said, I completely understand why so many people are entranced by this one. It's definitely a try before you buy. If it works for you, you'll be extraordinarily happy with it. It's very special. And the bottle is to die for!!

ivanda

Notes looks very appealing but this did not work with my chemistry. Peach - nice, but it got that weird undernote...which I can not stand. I guess this time it is combo of vanille and ylanylang. Fragrance is very sweet, like icecream cocktail from childhood. Try before buy.

lautre

It definitely reminds me of banana pudding!

aris1223

This is not what I expected it to be . I’ve been in love with Ylang, not only do I not detect it … it’s just a very “blah” fragrance . The price point in my opinion is way too much . I just get a sweet woody smell. 😕

mamiman

This reminds me of Casmir but without the vintage vibe.

ScarletAnyaBlack

Why does it smell like nail polish to me? But it's growing on me, and I like the drydown better.

excuse.my.sillage

Ylang in Gold is sublime. This perfume takes me back to our first vacation after the lockdown was lifted last year in July. We went to Samui island in the south of Thailand, staying in this gorgeous beachfront pool villa. And right above the villa gate, there was a Ylang-ylang tree covering over it like a roof that comes with this drooping yellow flowers which give such an incredible fragrance, especially in the late afternoon when you came back from the beach and first thing that welcome you back in was this wonderful scent of ylang-ylang.

It was a scent of happiness, very aromatic, rich, sweet, fruity, custardy-like with a hint of banana or caramel apple. And Ylang in Gold smells just like that. Upon my first sniff, it smells like sunshine, bright yellow, a little sticky and warm. It's fruity sweet with all sorts of tropical fruits blasting out in the introduction, yet it's quite soft and round, nothing pungent or sharp at all. Then Ylang-ylang comes out very realistically in here, plus having sandalwood, coconut and vanilla blended very well in the background makes it more like a tropical paradise in a bottle.

ValdiMiroMercury

Sweet, powdery, fruity fragrance. Ylang-ylang is on the top. Also coconut and vanilla are visible. And some herbs are there too.

forêt

This came out in 2012 and to me smells like a copy of Hanae Mori by Hanae Mori. Almost identical. Perhaps it is even closer to Casmir. So since these two came out first I respect them more. It does come in a gorgeous bottle though.

rullaxoxo

This smells like a tropical vacation in a bottle! ADORE IT

egb123

to me this is just montale intense tiare but weaker, still gorgeous but would take montale over it!

Meggybelle

This is a lovely perfume! The packaging is fit for royalty. The scent is so gorgeous!! On my skin it smells very gourmand. It smells like banana pudding with vanilla wafers in it, with a hint of coconut cream pie. I get no green notes at all. Just creamy yellow floral. This perfume is very unique and luxurious. I don't think it's a safe blind buy though I did blind buy it.....I'm in love with it and this brand <3

Yana_Yana

Just received my parcel from Grasse. Got Ylang in a 2 ml tester. All I've got from it - oversweet synthetic coconut. Maybe I should let my perfumes sit after the travel and get back to it 2 weeks later? Will revisit this review if anything changes. As of now, it's a huge thumb down.

Exenidi

A toned down version of Mancera Holidays.

katheryne_art

Ylang in Gold is such a gorgeous perfume! So soft, sweet, sunny, feminine and very complex! It's a perfect summer scent for a special occasion! The texture of it actually reminds me of Mancera Velvet Vanilla, which I absolutely love too but it has white florals instead of yellow florals. Both are gorgeous perfumes of high quality! If you are tired of all the designer perfumes and want something more special, try these 2!

jaelhb0

I've wanted to try Ylang in Gold for a few years now. I read lots of reviews and videos regarding this fragrance and dreamed of what it would smell like. I remember seeing comparisons for Hanae Mori and even Vanilla Fields. Well I finally got to see for myself and I can say, it’s definitely reminiscent of Vanilla Fields.

For me, this is a lemony coconut vanilla with yellow florals. There’s somewhat of a vintage quality about it too. I don’t get the banana custard like others do. I’d say it’s linear for the most part and just doesn't take me anywhere.

Lasting power is average. For those curious about the gold shimmer, it doesn’t really show up on my skin. I’ve worn this fragrance nearly 5 times and I’m not sure it makes sense to me. I’d like to try this on a summer day to see how it wears in the heat.

HOUSTONHOUSTON

99% similar to Hanae More by Hanae More. I love and have both. So if you can't afford Ylang in Gold, don't cry, buy cheap Hanae AKA Butterflies and be happy. They are interchangeable and have the same silage in my opinion. They are dupes. Ylang have more similarity with butterflies Ha=nae More than with Cashmir Chopard. Hate Cashmere, it smells super cheap and chemical to my nose.

Margarita Birda

My skin picks up on green notes and makes them sharper. Unfortunately the Mint note is too persistent on me along with sage, geranium and rosemary. I pick up a bit of vanilla and ylang ylang in the background but not enough to turn it into the sweet feminine perfume everyone describes.

Michelle12345678

More vanilla than anything else. Mild. Pretty, but nothing special IMO.

Annata

I’m speechless...
I don’t like sweet perfumes, but this is an exception.
It’s a vanilla cupcake filled with coconut cream, delicious and sweet 🤤. It’s amazing, especially wearing it on a romantic date.
Love it 😍, and trust me I’m not a person who likes a fragrance easily.

flordelceibo

This is one of the few Micallef perfumes that I really love. Refined, bright and opulent. All notes wonderfully complement each other to make a beautiful scent. A treat for anyone who loves yellow flowers with a warm, buttery background. To me this does not smell at all like Casmir, which I once bought and I had to give away (it was unbearably harsh on me).

ts4r

If you could make a scent for "Fuck you money" rich, this would probably be it.

Ladies, this is some amazzzzing juice. WOW.

tukamark

This fragrance, from the first moment I lifted the cap; reminded me instantly of a childhood memory. This rarely happens - I always have a connection to fragrances, but this particular perfume so vividly made me reminisce of a time that has already passed.

Light blue tapestry, a gentle motherly touch, a faint giggle, baby powder, everlasting kindness - these are always in my head when I put my nose to Micallef Ylang in Gold. Such a beautiful creation.

Ylang in Gold is kind, tender and just so lush - opens up with peach and fruitiness, in the heart with rich ylang, on a base of powdery vanilla and coconut. Notes I absolutely adore in a fragrance. This is baby powder mixed with a fruity vanilla lotion to me - it is absolutely soothing and a calming experience to behold. A fairly consistent creation - floral and fruity from the first minute to the last. And just the right amount of powderiness - not too dry, but it definitely enhances the fragrance. ✨

Ylang in Gold definitely made my childhood memories appear once again - I just adore the feeling when through the power of fragrance we are transported to our inner selves and discover our cherished values.

discojerry

This is a big LOVE for me. Sweet, vanilla, coconut heaven. Love the bottle and the gold shimmer inside as well.

fullbottleworthy

Was lucky to get a sample of this from a friend, and it's really nice. I'm not the hugest fan of ylang ylang when it's done in a traditional floral but if there is added sweetness and a little gourmand character, I'm all for it. I love the warmth this perfume has. With the added coconut and vanilla and hint of fruit, I get the feeling of a thick, rich, white suntan lotion being rubbed onto warm skin that is getting hot in the sunshine on the beach. I also own Chopard Casmir and Hanae Mori, so I can totally see the resemblance to those as well. I wasn't thinking it at first, but once I saw the comparisons here, I was like, yep, I see it. Of course it's not an exact replica, but it's definitely a sibling, or maybe a half-sibling, with a tropical sunscreen/coconut/ylang ylang twist. Between the three, I think I like YiG the most! It is warmer, thicker, and sweeter than HM, although HM is my second favorite, and then Casmir last. Casmir is really nice but it is a little thin/watery for me, so I like how the others are thicker and richer. HM is so nice but I never really reach for it, and I can see myself wearing YiG more often, so I would rather buy a full bottle of YiG :)

Aland2020

You know what this fragrance reminds me so much of? Mancera's Velvet Vanilla. That overpowering knock you in the nose bubblegum sweetness with the overpowering syrupy fruits and sticky vanilla that just feels out of place on my skin. I don't believe perfume has an age, but there are certain scents that are so saccharine on me that it feels as though I'm wearing something that's meant for a young juvenile. I smell like a woman desperate to hang onto her teenage years, and that's not something I want to portray. Now I don't mind sweet scents, got plenty of them in my wardrobe, but I think I like my sweet scents to have something more to them. A hint of spice, a few florals, some nice unisex woods or patchouli. Despite this listing all the notes in the world, it comes across very linear and simple. Simple Syrup that is. I don't dislike it, but I just don't think I should keep it around if I like it, but will never wear it.

It has great performance for what it's worth, if this is the sort of scent you're after. However, so does Velvet Vanilla, and Chopard Casmir, which this is often compared to. I gotta say I think I preferred that one, it was the candied sweetness with a touch of old school glamour, very 90's paying a homage to the 70's. Hanae Mori Butterfly, while it made me sick to my stomach even as a teenager, also had something a bit more unique to it than this. And all of these fragrances can be found more afforably than Ylang in Gold, I do believe. This is giving me very strong Melisandre from GOT vibes, where she's put on the cloak of sex appeal and youth, but that sparkly superficial appearance is all a facade.

ingeneuxo

-Has a sweet fruity opening that reminds me of Delina by Parfums de Marly.
-Warm tropical vibes.
-Despite all the complexity...it reminds me of VS body mists.
-Generic. Not worth the niche price tag.
-Projection: Low. This is a skin scent on me after 1 hour.
-Longevity: Medium.
-Not fbw. (-)

Josie_xo

Got this in a sample. This perfume is BEAUTIFUL. Just beautiful how all the notes melt into eachother. Definitely suited for summer and office appropriate. I’m not sure but the longevity on this was quite underwhelming. Maybe 2hrs? But then my skin literally eats perfume that’s why I prefer heavier scents. Still, beautiful fresh captivating scent. Will get my hubby to buy the full bottle at some point LOL

Austrian_in_Denmark

Beautiful, just beautiful. Ylang in Gold is sweet, strong and intoxicating. A happy smell, but not a light one. The ylang ylang is extremely strong on me, especially during the first hour. Sillage and longevity are impressive.

My first thought, when I sprayed this: Ylang in Gold is a lot like Chopard's Casmir. I own a vintage bottle of the latter, and the similarity is striking. That said, Ylang in Gold is more subtle (as subtle as such a look-at-me-scent does get), and it does not have Casmir's weird canned-peach note. I clearly prefer the Micallef to the Chopard. But they are also far apart in price...

My thanks to E. for her generous samples :-)

MariaMy

Hello lovely

5/10
Smells exactly like Vanilla fields By Coty o
& Chopard Cashmire

Buy it only for the bottle the smell is identical to the above

Best wishes

myname

I used to own Casmir by Chopard. Hated it as it was too creamy, sweet and cloying. This is sweet, peachy, minty and spicy. I appreciate the balance so it’s very wearable for me. It’s not too strong too so I really can’t see any one being put off by it around you. Lovely stuff and worth the price. I have the one with the gold in the bottle and it leaves a gold sheen on your skin which I’m not crazy about but I can pretend it’s not there. Good buy if you find it.

gelkita

I don’t know what is the spell in this bottle ... my brain knows this smell nice but « nothing special » ... still my heart loves it so much and my mind was obsessed after finishing my sample... had to purchase it.

Received it today and the magic is still full on when I spray it on me 😍

I would say it smells like a less opulent / warm version of DG The One EDP, with addition of vanilla and musk.

Very no brainer, easy going every type of situation appropriate but still very feminine and addictive to my nose. 😍

Also tested it with Xerjoff Dama Bianca ... no words to describe that heavenly combo 🥰🥰

EDIT 1 MONTH LATER :
I still feel the same and still so in love with this fragrance, even more under this heatwave hot temperature that enhance even more the beauty of this scent. It radiates more and I love it... when I don’t wear it for a few days, I miss it 🥰

KathieA

Really nice opening, but once that mint kicked in...nope, not for me.

MissyJ

It's nice and well blended. Just has a cleaning product citrus vibe to it. Wouldn't repurchase. Not a love. Maybe I should re-try in the hotter weather.

Saira.Manahil

Sweet warm vanilla is skillfully blended in with exotic fruits and florals, creating a deliciously creamy solar fragrance. Soft sensuality emanates from this gourmand perfume. It is a long-lasting scent that sits close to the skin, all while retaining its thick and buttery olfactive-texture. It has a golden warmth that makes it great for cold weather, but Ylang @martinemicallef is truly meant to shimmer under the hot summer sun. 💙

mister_chaz

Beautiful tropical vanilla. Spicy, sweet, cozy, luscious, and long-lasting. It's sunny and warm, a bit reminiscent of tropical vanilla custard. The shimmer is subtle.

Comparison to Hanae Mori Butterfly baffles me. Butterfly smells like plastic berry vanilla, totally different. I still like Butterfly, but these two smell completely different to my nose.

pinoemma

I wanted to like this fragrance so badly but the opening is just too sharp, I reckon it's the litchi that, as per usual, doesn't get along with me, and the ylang ylang. From the minute I spray it all I get is straight up nail polish. I'd love to experience the creamy vanilla and coconut that everyone describes but I know I won't ever be able to get past that opening.

Miruna

A solar fragrance that for me is way too much. Reminds me of the coconut flavoured car freshners in form of a tree that hang below the mirror(which I hate).

I am a fan of gourmands, I love coconut, summer scents, so I was very excited to test it after seeing it in Demi Rawling's videos, but this is a big no. Very, very cloying, especially the middle notes.

Definitely not a safe blind buy.

LadyIva

Beautiful bottle - average juice. Ylang in Gold is a typical sunshine-in-a-bottle, tropical fragrance. Coconut, vanilla, ylang-ylang and litchi. Too sweet for my liking, and actually works best when worn during the winter.

Amelia_Maya

Beautiful, rich, classy scent
One of my favourites!!
Mix this with Amouage sunshine and it transforms to the most beautiful fragrance.

GoodnessGraciousB

This absolutely the best fragrance I’ve smelled. I purchased a travel size to be sure I liked it. But I regret that because it’s amazing on my skin. It was love at first sniff 😋. It’s everything a woman would want in a fragrance. I definitely get a tropical vibe but It smells so delectable that I’d wear it year round. This will be in my collection forever. And I honestly don’t care what the package looks like because all of the glory is on the inside 🙌🏾. I’m just flabbergasted at how heavenly this smells. This vanilla is blended perfectly. It’s creamy sweet and alluring. You can’t go wrong with this one.

AlanaD

This is devine. A beautiful, creamy vanilla with touches of coconut.
Perfect for any time of year really, but I feel that it would shine best in spring/summer, the warmer weather.
Its girly, fluffy, warm & tropical.
I'm so glad that I have added this to my collection!!

Zentocs

@Nicyoung and @Katarinawhitney: It reminds me Frottee deo spray witch was my favorite deo in 1988-1990 in school.
But this is a very pleasant parfume and familiar too, easy to wear and easy to love.
A vanille-cocos bombo, nice interperation of thees notes.
Elegant and pleasant, I get a 10 ml travel sizing botlle but I will buy a big bottle too.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE

EmilySnow

Smells like a tropical sweet lychee, banana toned floral smoothie infused in a luxuriuos vanilla custard dessert.

Sweet and Fruity but not overly sweet. (compared to Delina Exclusif, Black Opium, La Vie Est Belle)

Perfect femine scent.

Chopard Casmir is 90% similar to this. Ylang is more refined and sweeter

Perfume Beginners

The opening starts with a very sweet, almost syrupy, vanilla that I cannot smell anything else. In fact, I didn't smell it before I bought but I still had high anticipation towards it because it was highly recommended from a youtuber and I used to like most of the fragrances she recommended since we have similar taste. However, this is is really too sweet for me. I knew it would be sweet, but I didn't know it would be that sweet. It is definitely a typical gourmand scent in the very beginning.

I endured the sweetness for a while and then it became better, at least not that sweet. Other notes were coming out while the sweetness faded until it reached a balance between the two. I kind of understood why the scent was appreciated because it really did well for the middle and last parts. But it could never be my favourites for its beginning. It even scares me from trying it for the second time because of its terrible sweetness lasting for the first 15 minutes. Maybe I will try it again when the weather becomes colder.

ridgel

The opening was all sweet tropical fruits. Like putting my nose in a ripe fruit salad on vacation. Then vanilla came in, it morphed into a litchi vanilla sweeter than sweet bomb. The dry down is creamy, still extremely sweet. Tropical fruit fades away, leaving vanilla, ylang ylang, and some sandalwood. It smells good, feminine, soft and fluffy, but for me its too sweet.

Edit: the dry down is less sweet. Mildly tropical, subtly fresh, woody and definitely unisex. Almost cooling. Still a sweet frag but not a sweet bomb.

Nicyoung

This is a very pretty fragrance. Especially at first sniff.. I thought to myself .. this is a true gorgeous masterpiece!... Then, it was reminiscent of something cheap I used to wear.. just like the review below @katrinawhitney ... I am 99% sure I have figured it out.. its either Vanilla fields or Vanilla musk that I used to get at rite-aid. I have a love hate relationship with this because of that... I have purchased and sold it three times due to the fact that its is so pretty but reminds me of a cheaper version haha! The gold doesn't show on your skin either, its more for aesthetic of the bottle :)

katrinawhitney

Finally finally got to smell this. Wow. This reminds me so much of something from my childhood as well as middle school days. I wish so much I could figure it out. I will say, my mom had this powder puff fragrance thing forevvvver that she never touched, I think it said the scent was French vanilla, and it definitely smelled a lot like this. However, I cannot wait to take this on a spin during summer months, doused over tanned skin. Will definitely update!

Edit: wore this for the first time last night, and my husband says “You smell like fluff.” As in the marshmallow mush in a tin.

I blind bought a sample of this because of the youtubers Demi Rawling and Jeremy Fragrance, and unfortunately I am very disappointed.

To me this perfume just smells like an overly sweet fruit punch. It isn't sexy, alluring or classy at all, it's just an overwhelmingly sweet and fruity perfume, and not in a good way.

I can sense some vanilla and tropical notes in here, but like I said I just think about a way too sweet fruit punch/tropical drink that isn't sensual or inviting. This is just not how a person should smell.

This will definately make me more suspicious regarding recommendations from fragrance youtubers.

ms.ttran64

I really wanted to like this based on the main notes but the opening burst is like nail polish to me.

topanga

I don't get the hype of this one at all. Sickeningly sweet and cloying. Good longevity, even though that's more of a negative with this one to me. I got 10 ml of this in a surprise box, but would have been extremely disappointed if I'd actually paid for a full bottle, ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Also dislike the other 10 scents that came in the box. Nothing special, mostly cloying, flowery sickening sweetness (and I tend to love sweet scents).

kbot

I absolutely love this. Vanilla, coconut and ylang ylang are the most prominent notes, but it's more complex than that. The floral and woodsy backdrop are a wonderful blend. This is so amazing and I wish owning a full bottle were just a tad more attainable!

g0h4eun

Just one word to describe. Icing. I don't get any sensual, inviting, alluring, elegant, classy, magical vanilla & ylang scent but just icing. I don't think i smell sexy wearing this perfume because i rather smell like a cake. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating it. Actually, I really like this & might even buy one day. Yummy, additive & comforting, your childhood in a bottle. The longevity and projection are very good.
My disappointment comes from watching & reading reviews. I was expecting a sensual vanilla scent as a perfect date night perfume.

dsty

Ylang in Gold has a long list of notes, but to my nose it's essentially just a really good vanilla scent; I can believe there's ylang-ylang and coconut milk in there since it's so deliciously creamy, but otherwise I can't discern much of anything. That might be because my sample has been lying around for a while and some top notes may have disappeared, but in any case I'm not complaining - a good simple vanilla scent always makes me happy. But I agree with the reviewer below me: those can be found at lower price points as well. So I'll leave my first experience with this brand with mixed feelings: I enjoyed this sample quite a lot, but it hasn't made made me especially eager to try more from the Micallef house.

_christine_

Ylang in Gold features lots of ylang-ylang and sweet honey with notes of fruit. It's lovely, and I like this very much. It’s one I reach for often when I want something comforting and warm.

As with other M. Micallef scents, Ylang in Gold is high quality and spendy. You can get similar fragrances at a much lower cost. Setting aside the gold thing, this smells like a mix of 75% Giselle by Carla Fracci and 25% Casmir by Chopard.

inga.ba

Lovely floral fragrance, but nothing that you will remember.

lukewarmilk

Ylang is a lovely floral / tropical fragrance in my opinion. It opens with a blast of a realistic mixed fruits cocktail with chunks of lychee in it paired with a coconut water note at this point it's very sweet. Next the mint reveals itself to hold back the fruits and the coconut from becoming cloyingly sweet. The ylang flower is the main player once the fragrance reaches the mid and fruits are much softer now. Also in the mid there are hints of vanilla paired with everything else giving the fragrance a cozy vibe in the base. Ylang at this point stays the same until the end of it's life. I get about 9 hours of longevity and an average projection from it. Even though I like Ylang a lot it does smell like many fragrances I've encountered but to its credit it does it better.

trabuquera

Surprisingly strong like - and a bit of a mystery: my official Micallef sampler set has a card showing the bottle above, but its text and the tester itself are labelled just "Ylang". So I don't even know if I'm describing Ylang or Ylang in Gold here.

Big, rich, sweet, femme-diva thing which I warmed to far faster than I ever thought I would - mainly because of really good, authentic, warm vanilla and coconut, which manage not to turn sun-lotiony or sickly-sweet, despite the overall rich & syrupy setting. Sensuous, soft, pillowy, fluffy clouds being wafted about by breezes from an orchard and a flower garden at once. Lychee kept well under control (just as well as it's a bit of a horror-note to me).Mainstream, but sophisticated; rather old-school, in an unconscious, uncool, unironic way, not a deliberate imitation of "vintage" (no reeky animalics or aldehydes at all); not the absolute height of luxe, but never ever smells cheap, either - which is not easy to do in this sort of fruity-vanilla zone. So - great respect to it; won't go for a full bottle myself, but will very happily use every drop in the sample and recommend it to anyone exploring coconut notes in particular.

ismellsogood

It's what I imagine the queen of Sheba, Makeda would drench herself in after bathing in goats milk and sweet almond honey.
Soooo .. the Leo in me wanted to do the same!
ylang in gold is a silky vanilla custard my delight it's an iriental goddess of a scent. Hanae Mori butterfly is very very similar. I've ordered Chopard casmir to compare and I'll be back with an edited update of this review.
It's very beautiful and I only bought it as it was on a ridiculous sale.

This is one of the few full bottles I have bought in a long time. Love it for a fresh feminine spring and summer scent

Warm, close, dry, bright, powdery, sweet ylang ylang and vanilla musk with a lot of less intensive notes throughout, tangerine, sage, peach, which give depth and a little tartness. The ylang ylang note has a very similar smell to the ylang ylang and lily in Paper Flower hand lotion (not the Paper Flower perfume) I didn't find this as tropical as some other reviewers and thought the coconut was almost unnoticeable

The whole effect is elegant, subtle, rich and almost salivary. The sillage and intensity is polite. Non linear and constantly evolving, it is easy on your nose and surprisingly easy to wear. The gold shimmer is so subtle it is almost invisible, more of a decorative effect for bottle presentation, like Boadicea's disappearing blue.

The only flaws are the initial opening is a little too sweet for me but settles quickly into a luxuriously bright smelling scent. Also, the scent doesn't really open up unless the weather is warm. In cooler weather, this smells like a mess.

theLady

A burst of sweetness so tart it hurts the teeth. 60 seconds later, a pink smell of mallow is all that is left upon the skin. A "a delicate and refined pearly-golden veil that shimmers on the skin" indeed.
That softness lasts for a long while though, that's nice.

artemis16

I’m not going to be popular here.

On me Ylang in Gold is primarily cloying sweet vanilla and mint on a bed of plastic. There is also a little sandalwood, musk and sage.
That’s it. The mint persists almost until the end - thankfully, as it cuts through the intense, artificial vanilla.

Sorry, not a fan at all. Which is lucky for me, since it’s expensive.

MixedTastes

Wow. A new love!

Ylang and vanilla up front, coconut and peach playing in the background.

A creamy, sensual treat.

umma toga

Amazing, beautiful scent. This was actually a love at first sniff for me. I read a lot of posts and reviews comparing it to Casmir. I have both and love both but ylang in gold is leagues ahead in quality. Ylang in gold smells like sunshine itself. It is so well blended that it's hard for me to single out its different notes. I get mostly ylang, litchi, smooth creamy vanilla and musk. Compared with Casmir, ylang in gold is definitely made of higher quality ingredients, smoother and more floral. Casmir, on the other hand, is spicier, more resinous and has more vanilla. Ylang in gold actually reminds me of Orchidee vanille, not in actuall scent but in the same type of feel. Both are balmy florals smoothed out with light fluffy vanilla cream.

craftymaya

USUALLY, I do not like Ylang in perfumes. But this one is really nice, creamy vanilla with a touch of ylang which is not too loud or overpowering the other notes. I do not detect all listed notes though. Once sprayed, it is pretty linear, sweet, soft, creamy, nice unusual vanilla. Not to mention the bottle is STUNNING, the juice is amazingly sparkling gold!

cedar_lea

Creamy floral vanilla. Lovely and worth revisiting.

I am surprised not to find tuberose listed. This kind of reminds me of The One Desire with tuberose and litchi and vanilla, but I suppose it could be ylang and magnolia as I didn't find The One Desire a realistic tuberose either. They both blend together to become a fantasy flower.

kati77

Great perfume.
Nice sweet smells comes from coconut and vanilla, nothing artificial sweet in here. Really like gold.
Good longevity. Stays close to skin.
For autumn it is perfect. Uplifts mood. Gives warm and sweet feeling. Nothing gourmand, more like jewel, it is like when you wearing this scent you can feel rich.

JenJones28

This is a must buy in my opinion. Guys if you're looking for a fragrance to buy as a gift, this is it. Really beautiful bottle and presentation. When I first spray this I'm a little put off by the top notes. But after 10 minutes its heavenly. It lasts a long time. Very elegant and perfect for office use.

Tigerlillian

Oh, so delicious. I'm not one to go for gourmands or any prominent sweet vanilla, but Ylang in Gold is delectable.

More than ylang, I pick up a lot of lychee. If you're not familiar with this fruit, it has nuances of rose or peony. Paired with vanilla and peach and you get a beautiful creamy pink fruit accord, sublimely enhanced with velvet magnolia petals.

I don't get a whole lot of similarity with Casmir -- I felt Casmir's basenotes were much heavier and sweeter with vanilla. There is indeed some familiarity with Hanae Mori.

Dress this up or down -- it's not as golden to me as the bottle and name leads you to believe. In fact, it dries down to a rather understated but still delicious scent.

fillifelle

I mistakenly put this review under Micallef for Women. So here it is in its proper place :)

This is YUMS on my skin. I get lashings of vanilla that's simply intoxicating. I absolutely cannot stand fruity notes in majority of the perfumes and I'm glad whatever fruit notes here are very subdued, with none of the synthetic syrupy accords encountered in lesser perfumes. There's also a woody ambery drydown that's quite delicious. FYI, this fragrance comes in a version with shimmery glitter dust (the bottle that looks like it has an opaque juice actually contain micro glitter particles). It leaves a subtle sheen on the skin. Gimmicky, I know, but I guess im a sucker for a pretty little touch:) You can also choose not to have the glitter for the same retail price.

Very soft projection and sits quite close to skin. Such a lovely, intimate thing to wear!

Hegevel

Apparently I'm some sort of blind buy queen, so I took the chance and bought it without smelling it first. Instantly after spraying it I thought "I already have this!" It took a couple of minutes before I realized I smells almost exactly like Chopard Casmir ( I'm one of those who didn't see this comparison in the reviews beforehand). It's so similar that it's a bit scary if you think of the price difference. Ylang in gold is a bit more gentle than Casmir, but I'm not so sure it's worth the price. Personally I think it's okay to pay the price if the fragrance is original and special, but in this case you can get a scent that is pretty much the same for a fraction of the price. If I smelled this and Casmir on another person I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. That being said, the scent is beautiful, soft, perfect for summer and definitely smells like ylang ylang and vanilla.

myjebo2012

I adore this bottle however I was expecting a TKO! A little strong for the spring/summer.

zepol

Effortlessly refined, inviting, and slightly sensual, this fragrance is low key luxe at its best. At first it seems deceptively soft, but the more I wear it, am blown away by how well it performs. This is truly one of the prettiest expressions of the ylang ylang note I've tried, not to mention one of the "prettiest" smelling scents in my collection. Considering all the notes in the composition, the way they come together is super harmonious, and I agree that the sunny ylang ylang and vanilla, with a creamy coconut, and a slight woodiness in the drydown are the main players. I really enjoy how this is simultaneously sweet and floral. The interplay is beautiful. YIG is so so smooth, with a subdued yet sophisticated vibe. There is a definite tropical feel, but its tropical in a 5 star resort way. I think it can be worn for a wide variety of occasions/settings and usually reach for this when I want to feel super feminine/opulent. Some days I like to wear it just because its so uplifting! I can see how YIG could easily be someone's date or special occasion fragrance.

There are two mature ylang ylang trees outside my house and YIG mimics the gentle smell of ylang ylang wafting in the air without the indolic factor. I prefer the waft of ylang ylang versus smelling ylang ylang up close (sniffing a handful of ylang ylang blossoms up close can be a little pungent).

I have the version with nacre particles suspended in the liquid, although I would've preferred the version without, since sometimes I see patches of gold shimmer when I spray on dark clothes. It also settles on the bottom and you do have to shake the bottle. The nacre does produce a subtle shimmer when sprayed on skin, which is nice when you're in the mood for it.

cutetrang

Incredibly long lasting fragrance , which also is not overpowering. Usually scents do not last that long on my skin but this lasted 12hours! incredible!

One of the few vanilla-sweet scents I like with gorgeous floral notes.

The Ylang is also fantastic! It feels like a warm coconuty-vanilla-like hug I love it! I would also wear this in winter, if I was missing some sunshine or needed an energy happiness kick. In Summer it is just great because of the holidays vibe this scent gives me. It smells like total sunshine in a bottle.

Got this 100ml bottle on sale and love it! The juice is nice, easy to wear, likeable and also office appropriate, if you do not spray 10 sprays.

Sillage is gorgeous and perfect!

I prefer the perfume without the unnecessary gold. I do not need gold on my skin and clings to dark fabric.

YLANG notes lover: "Histoires de Parfums - This is not a blue bottle 1.2" is like a more refreshing and bit more of a banana like perfume. In case you want a fresher version or like a 60ml bottle version instead (also gorgeous arty bottle), sample it!

Justapixel

I had planned to wear a rose perfume today, but before I got dressed, my decant of Ylang in Gold arrived, and I could not resist.

This is one of those magical fragrances that is described best by adjectives rather than notes. It's so beautifully blended that nothing overpowers anything else. Yes, I can get a whiff of Ylang and vanilla and coconut at times, but I don't smell lychee or rosemary or sage or citrus. I don't doubt they are there, or that others detect them, but to me, this is blended like a pina colada on a Hawaiian beach, creamy and foamy and tropical. Still, this perfume has richness and depth, with a softness that still says "notice me." I smell sun shining on palm trees as they sway in the breeze, or an acadamy award winner in a shimmering golden dress, or Audrey Hepburn wearing shorts on a Mahogony boat in the Mediterranean. To me it reminds me of beautiful summer, but I can also see this warm in front of a fire on a snowy day, where it would deepen to honey and amber. It smells wealthy and luxurious while being simple at the same time. I am a lover of bright rose flower perfumes and usually dislike vanilla, but Ylang in Gold may change my course. I can see this being that special fragrance that people associate with you and only you. I have been wearing it all day and it has not faded.

I got the decant of the one without the pearlessence for this review. I have never seen this bottle in person but I have no problem with a beautiful bottle with decorated juice, as long as it smells good on me. I would like to see the shimmer for myself as I normally only see that in cheap plasticky bath and body works mists. However, I'm unlikely to buy a bottle with the shimmer because there is a significant price difference and I am focused mostly on the fragrance.

Update:December 2017. I found a bottle greatly discounted and it did have shimmer, but it makes no difference as it’s so light one can’t see it on the skin. I was also gifted a bottle of Hanae Mori EDP (blue butterfly box) and the dry down is quite similar. In fact, right now I think it smells identical, although I’ll try them side to side. Others have done so and agree with me as you can see in these reviews. I do suggest, if you want Ylang in Gold and you are in the US-don’t pass up a bottle if you see it at a reliable retailer as it seems to be disappearing. It’s difficult to find except on eBay, which I find hard trusting. Just a thought.

Good luck scent-lovers, Stay smelling beautiful!

FOR SUMMER & RESORT ONLY.
This review is for the gold bottle - that you need to shake. First impressions: the bottle is a work of art, heavy and set with crystals. I did not know you need to shake the bottle to mix the contents. Cool, and a little gimmicky. The scent is warm and very, very, creamy. Think coconut paste and youve got it. I like coconut paste but I don't want to drink it. Solar notes similar to those in Orchid Soliel. Heavy ylang, coconut & sandalwood. I know there are people out there who would adore this. This blind buying arse is just not one of them. Happy Sniffing!

apassionforscent

Honestly, when I received this perfume from France and sniffed it for the first time, I didn't like it. But in a split second I realised why I didn't like it. That is because I base my opinions about perfumes, on what other perfumes they remind me of. There's always another perfume to make referrence to. And then if it smells like something I already like, then I know I like it. Ylang in Gold had me feeling insecure and unsure of myself... because it doesn't remind me of ANYTHING AT ALL. It doesn't remind me of any other perfume, or any place, or anything that has happened to me in my life, so on and so forth. It is a completely clean slate! I felt like a fish out of water. But then I quickly realised that this is exactlty what I want and what I need! A clean slate to build brand new memories and brand new experiences on!

Ylang in Gold is so very exquisitely done, that it reminds of no other! I don't know how this is possible... but they made it possible!

I have found my signature scent for life. One that I can REALLY build foundation on and TRULY call my own!

This perfume is both sweet and sharp at the same time and to equal degrees sharp and sweet! This is the only thing I am capable of describing it as! A butterfly meets a bee. The love child of a bee and a butterfly! I will have to build all of my other opinions every day as I go through life wearing it. A true signature scent, a perfume like no other. A fragrance that has to be built with one's own experiences in life.

Exquisite. Exquisite. Exquisite.

A masterpiece.

I am so glad that it is so expensive. That way not everyone can have it!!

mary_pineapple

A classy floral/boozy vanilla. To me its reminiscent of spiked eggnog infused with floral essence. The vanilla is soft like custard, and the booziness complements the floral top notes beautifully. The floral is ylang enriched with a hint of tiare. It's feminine, classy, soft, and powerful without being blunt. When it completely dries down, what's left is marshmallow.

MrsPress

Not a review...a question. Does this really smell like Hanae Mori by Hanae Mori?

tandaina

This is a review of Ylang, the version without gold shimmer. They are the same fragrance but for whatever reason Fragrantica only lists the gold version.

This is a fragrance that *must be sprayed* a splash bottle simply does not work. Months ago I got a mini splash bottle of Ylang In Gold in a trade. It had no scent, I could bathe in the stuff and only get the slightest hint of scent. : I wrote it off as over priced and under powered.

But I kept seeing rave reviews and wondered if either my sample had gone bad, or if the splash bottle was the issue (I've run into this before with other scents). So when I saw it on major sale for under $100 I bought it, figuring if it didn't work I could resell it pretty easily.

Totally different perfume sprayed. It is heady, feminine, strong ylang. The scent is delicate, sophisticated, and sweet without being cloying. This is a special occasion scent that I will likely save for dates and fancy dress up events. It just screams sophistication and class. What an utterly lovely perfume and the bottle is truly a work of art. If you've got a splash of this decant it into an atomizer to test, the spray makes all the difference.

Natalia78

One word: a masterpiece. Everlasting, luxurious, opulent, feminine masterpiece.
Occasion: every second, price: deadly, lasting power: forever.

Beautiful extravagant this is a top notch perfume.
Scent: 10
Longevity: 8
Projection: 7
Sillage: 6
Originality: 10
Versatility: 8

Am a guy but truly love this piece.. Wonderful

123velvetrose

This is a sparking zingy ylang ylang.
It reminds me of j'adore but tropical some how and a lot more interesting.
It really is quite beautiful but that beauty comes with quite a price.
Worth the money if you're a ylang ylang lover.

Katssya

I dare to apply on my skin today a little drop of Dior touche de parfum before Ylang in gold. Few seconds later....Booom!!! Its a whole new wonderfull world..it is like discovering Atlantis. You have the same spectacular and complex scent of Gold but with a more creamy powdery touch. If you want a more sexy and youthful version of gold, thats a try !

blake.lee

Spray a little Hanae Mori Butterfly then layer with a tiny squirt of Casmir and then top it off by walking through one spray of Olympea and you've got Ylang in Gold. It's very similar to Casmir with the fruit from Butterfly and has the musky salty note from Olympea. If you have Casmir or Butterfly you do not need this. It's pretty though.

Anaïs Nin

Wow, this is a beautiful fragrance. Ylang-Ylang is unmistakably satiny smooth, I loved to wear it.

The opening is a blend of citrus and fruits with bitter herbal nuances. The sweet, floral Ylang Ylang comes through, oh my, it is such a rich whipped cream ylang ylang on my skin. It is creamy on a base of vetiver, musk, coconut and vanilla. The coconut is so nice, reminding me of my time in the Bahamas where they give you a coconut with a straw in it, and you try tasting the flesh after drinking. Natural, milky, fleshy coconut.
Warm, delicious tropical fruits, coconut, and delicate citrus serve as a backdrop for the rich ylang-ylang and vanilla.

Staying power on my skin is all day and sillage is great.

shushkin

Yes, I can immediately understand why folk have said about similarity to Fragonard Miranda and Chopard Casmir. I own both the Fragonard and the Chopard which are both much more robust and often complimented upon. This is not as sweet and has (not surprisingly) more ylang. I own two Micallef fragrances and they are both more potent. Its really surprising that a fragrance called ylang can be so almost wishy washy. The ylang ylang note by its very nature is strong. This fragrance baffles me. Sometimes it is weak and then others it blooms and is magical.

victoria.mei1992

It stays very close to the skin, very weak.

I had been looking for something new, refreshing and clean, and I watched a review fragrance by 'Jeremy' on youtube, reviewing the top 5 fragrances for women. His number one was this, but 'in Gold'. I'm not sure what the difference would be, except for the shimmering particles. So because of Jeremy's very animated and ecstatic description of Ylang in Gold, I just had to try it. So I realised that I couldn't try this anywhere near me in the UK, so I went to the boutique website and got the women's Discovery Booklet which contained just the Ylang (not the one 'in Gold'). It arrived in the post, and oh my goodness. I felt I had found something so dreamy, unique, sophisticated, creamy, fresh, pure, and blended to perfection. I said to myself, how could I have not known about M.Micallef? Maybe it's because of exclusivity, or maybe it's because the brand is not appreciated enough here in the UK. If a fragrance can be categorised as Divine (as there is nothing higher than this description for me), then Ylang is very, very, close to it. I am so, so, happy I got this. The sillage and longevity is excellent and I just can't get over how well-blended this fragrance is - you get an appreciation of the different notes, but in such a balanced way – they do not overpower each other, but they make a beautiful 'appearance' almost one by one, as you are ‘hit’ at different moments while wearing this, but at the same time, you know the notes are being carried by each other a the same time - I don't know how else to describe.

The notes listed on the packaging are:

Top Notes: Sage, Rosemary, Artemisia

Middle Notes: Mint, Magnolia, Ylang

Base Notes: Coconut, Musk, Moss

There is a warm, plush-velvety characteristic about this fragrance – perhaps because of the Musk, Sage and Moss, but it also presents itself as cold and very creamy – maybe the Mint, Coconut and Ylang; and both sets of notes smell like they are being suspended by the silkiness of Artemisia – the woody quality of this fragrance is definitely present too. The ingredients are just so pure and excellently blended! (I know I said that already). :-)

I of course, ran out of the sample vile but before I did, I went ahead and purchased the bottle from the online boutique (free delivery within Europe). This is a repeat buy for me, most definitely. I have enjoyed wearing this throughout the day and the night, in Winter, but I can imagine wearing a couple of sprays of this in the summer too.

This is so sophisticated and feminine, and for me, this is 10/10.

Musky4

This review is for Ylang, not Ylang In Gold, which I understand is exactly the same perfume, just without the gold particles.
I first became aware of this perfume whilst watching a video of a male reviewer's list of the top 5 sexiest woman's fragrances. This was at no. 1, with La Nuit Tresor (one of my favourite perfumes), at no. 2. As I had never heard of Ylang In Gold before, I read some reviews and was intrigued by the comparison to Casmir, which I adore. I immediately added Ylang to my want list, and was lucky enough to be offered a small decant of this by a very kind member here at Fragrantica. I have been wearing Ylang now since I received it a couple of days ago and must say how delighted I am with it. I can absolutely see the resemblance to Casmir, it's just as sweet, but Ylang has more of a floral tropical vibe than Casmir. Interestingly I also notice a slight similarity with La Nuit Tresor - they do share some notes in common, for example the lychee, rose and woody notes. Ylang also has something in common with the beautiful and sadly discontinued Alchimie, as the previous reviewer noted, but to a lesser degree. If you combined Casmir, La Nuit Tresor and Alchimie, you'd probably end up with Ylang! The quality of Ylang is evident and the longevity is excellent. This is one of those perfumes that I'd like to bathe in! I can imagine how wonderful it would be to wear this with a stunning evening gown. I do think the addition of the gold sheen would make it extra special. The only downside for me is that it is so similar to Casmir (and so much more expensive) that I couldn't justify buying myself a bottle while I still have a large unopened backup bottle of Casmir... I might have to put off buying this beauty for some time, but it will definitely stay on my want list. This is definitely a signature-worthy perfume and yes, very, very sexy.

Nickomay30

PERFECT!

e-lena crimea

To Anneliise Zissler:
Yes, Ylang (without gold) is the same, but Ylang in Gold have a little bit higher longevity, as the gold shimmer is fragranced too. Thus this shimmer additionally fixes Ylang when sitting on your body/hair/clothes.

sleepy*weasel

Beautiful, really lovely. The fruit isn't that obvious, it's not a fruit salad of a scent, it's just a perfect counterpoint to the superb quality ylang and the musk. At various points you can detect all the notes, but it's so perfectly blended and balanced, it's a pleasure to wear. I got a very good price on my bottle, so I was lucky. Very creamy and sensual, quite addictive. 10/10!

Lana148

This is adorable!

Mix of delicious fruits, coconut, ylang-ylang and vanilla. It reminds me of the tropics. Perhaps some delicious tropical cocktail, the smell of the breakfast in a open restaurant, in a tropical resort: fresh fruit salad and French waffles made with better quality vanilla and topped with condensed milk.

Just delicious! This fragrance is a little sweet and although, I lately, can`t tolerate sweet fragrance, I find this irresistible.

Dry-down is very soft and sensuous. Really good quality fragrance.

i have just Micallef "Ylang" is it the same perfume only with shimmer?

UMMMM, This one is really stunning. Quality, projection, silage as well as the purity of its ingredients make it a standout among others of the same category.
What i enjoy rather than smell is the rich creamy Ylang note along with the very fine undertone fruity notes which plays well in the background just to keep this MASTERPIECE shining more and more.

* Very Delicious You ARE.

Creamy gold melting with the skin.
Vanilla, a hint of coconut and a delicate ylang surrounds you all day and night.

Longevity is excellent.

Ylang in Gold is slightly sweeter than Casmir, sugary in fact, so if you don't like sugary perfumes obviously you won't like this!

I can detect the slight hint of mint, which opens it out a little, but there's lots of vanilla. The fruity aspect is good quality - i.e. it doesn't smell like ice-cream sauce or nasty additives

It's pretty, summery, yet rich and I think it will be very popular for people who enjoy a flirty summer floral of decent quality

But I agree it has much in common with Casmir, which is a good economical alternative, but, Ylang in Gold is sweeter and lighter, less oriental

This is not really my style. Every so often I'll dip into sweeter or more fruity perfumes, but I usually prefer green perfumes, chypres and woody orientals so it's absolutely about what style you prefer

Sillage and longevity are good - moderate, neither too soft or loud

Ever since its release, I wanted so badly to try Ylang in Gold. I don’t know why it took me so long to test it; a reason for it might have been that I was afraid to want such an expensive perfume. Every time I fall in love with a perfume which sells for several hundred dollars a bottle, I curse fate for bringing me such loveliness that I cannot afford let alone justify buying it. Trying this on my skin, however, has been a positive and a negative experience, both aspects from which I will benefit. Negative aspect: I loved it at first sniff. This automatically puts it in the category of “Too Expensive”. Positive aspect: It's two fold... Firstly, it’s simply too gorgeous for words! Without looking at any of the notes, I get a fruity opening followed by a trace of Ylang Ylang. Secondly, about 30 minutes into the drydown, I get fruity, powdery Vanilla pudding with less-than-dominant Ylang Ylang with tremendous sillage and longevity. In short, I get an ever-so-slightly fruitier version of Hanae Mori (Parfum version.) If I was asked to blindly smell and identify this on my skin, I’d say “Hanae Mori Parfum” without hesitation. Are the ingredients more expensive/pure/rare/loftier/so much more uber-awesome than the mass marketed Hanae Mori? I’m sure of it. Does that make any difference as far as the end result? No. And that, folks, is the BEST news. I get to keep my beloved Hanae Mori and several hundred dollars in my pocket. For those of you who would like to buy this but cannot afford it, seek out a sample of this. If you like it, go purchase the pocket-friendlier Hanae Mori Parfum version (Red Butterfly). It’s essentially the same thing.

In my opinion, Ylang by M. Micallef is the golden standard for ylang fragrances. It opens with a blast of sweet ylang mixed with white flowers and coconut. It smoothes down after 15 minutes and remains a sweet, coconut-y floral scen. I smell a faint sandalwood in the end. The ylang note is prominent from beginning to end. I don't find it very tropical or too sweet. I can understand some people might find it too heady or floralry, but I love heady floral scents.
Longevity: about 8 hours

Gorgeous soft vanilla and creamy ylang scent with refreshing citrus notes and woods for balance. I see the comparisons to Casmir and to Hanae Mori; they are similar scent profiles. However, I think this is a superior blend with superior ingredients. This is the most beautiful ylang scent I have ever smelled. It is glorious and the vanilla is superb as well. I would love a bottle of this fragrance.
