I really like Mugler (Alien, Aura, Angel), I always find their fragrances unique, and Aura is no exception. It was love on the first spray the day it hit stores: I immediately bought two bottles, but only because I noticed it doesn’t last long on my skin, never mind how much, when and where I apply it. I cannot get more than 3-4 h of wear.

But the moment you apply it, wow, such a nice fresh fragrance. Finally, no lemon, no orange. Instead, the bergamot makes it more serious. And the green in it is just perfect. It is slightly sweet, but not berry (pink, red) sweet. It isn’t as unique once it settles down, but the opening is so refreshing and beautiful. The middle notes are as well really nicely balanced. It’s very cozy, but does have a twist - and because of it, I wouldn’t say it’s a blind buy. It’s light and fresh, but not too fresh (like Light Blue or Green Tea) to make it only summer friendly. It is more like a sunny day just after the rain has stopped. It feels like a beautiful continuation of a day after a heavy spring rain, with rainbow, sun, and birds chirping. Maybe the rhubarb makes gives the perfect mature sweetness. It never feels like a luxurious soap.

This is the only green or fresh fragrance I have in my collection. Usually they aren’t my pick.

I like everything about it, just the longevity is really bad. I had Sensuelle as well, gifted it, as they were too similar to have both in the collection.

I genuinely wonder that this might be the most bizarre and complex perfume I've ever owned.

Strangely inexplicable scent.
One that, to some degree, I eventually cannot smell at all. 🤦

My beliefs are never upheld when wearing this.
I can smell the iris of Angel or Lempicka, I can smell the magic that is, Womanity, I can smell all and nothing at once. 🤦

Initially I felt that it smelled like a more complex version of Cavalli. Which is precisely what I said here, previously. 🤦

I have to believe that everybody smells this differently, as I've found no explanation for what I smell and can't compare my perception of it to anybody else's.

My best friend smells dill. 🍃🌿

Mugler really outdid themselves here and I almost find it unwearable in its complexity and with the level of confusion that it brings.

I have nothing to say, so why speak? 🗣️
This stuff drives me to the BRINK.
While also being pretty chill. 🤦

I own two bottles. One original tester from the release time, one retail from a while later.
The original bottle is woodier, more sour, a touch harsher. The latter is sweeter and more powdery.
What's it with Mugler scents? I swear no two bottles are the same!

First hint of sunshine 🌞 in the north of England today, I've busted out my AURA. 🙌

This is one of, maybe even the sexiest fragrance to grace the market. Just incredible, try it !

Haven’t really smelled anything like this before.. it’s very unique and ethereal.. It takes me to another reality.. enchanting, full of life, and mysterious.. I just envision the most magical of places.. green smelling, but not grassy green more like fresh, ripe fruit green with a beautiful dose of this dreamy and intoxicating vanilla.. which isn’t cloying at all.. I personally consider it gourmand-esque but more so as it dries down. The opening seems to retain most of the greenness.. which does linger juuuust enough throughout for me to not consider it a full blown gourmand, but it definitely has characteristics of one. A green gourmand perhaps? Anyways.. throw in some irresistible floral and woody notes as well (not necessarily distinguishable on their own, minus the additional creaminess provided by the sandalwood) and you've crafted this other world-like potion.. I will admit the rhubarb opening is ever so slightly intense to my nose upon initial spray but after about 5 minutes or so it starts to settle, and eventually, into one of the most heavenly dry downs where everything described above really gets to unfold.. it’s hard to fully articulate lol but if I could try my best.. imagine a seductive fairy-like creature that’s wandering a vast, luscious fantasy rainforest/jungle setting RIGHT after a rain shower and you happen to catch a whiff of her enticing and alluring aura as she flutters past you.. the light in the dark and damp forest.. quite an experience 💚💗✨🧚

Edit: omggg if Poison Ivy had a signature scent it would 100% be Aura DOWNN..literally the embodiment of that character.. I’m dangerously addicted. Nothing about this fragrance reads as harsh to me anymore.. I feel like I’ve fallen in love lol. Only downside is it doesn’t seem to last as long on me as it does others, but still a moderate 6-ish hours. In my opinion, this fragrance paints an image in my mind as to how humans were always supposed to live.. free and one with nature. My signature scent 💋

Well what a surprise! I bought this perfume at Marshall's after the passing of Thierry Mugler, so winter of '22. Everything about the idea of this fragrance called out to me, but upon first spray, it was a disappointing no. Not something I enjoyed wearing on my body. It brought to mind chewing a betel leaf with areca nut, which I'd done in my adventurous youth at a local Indian restaurant along with the staff. Sharp and bitter, dark green juice, sap and a mind numbing buzz. Three of four times after that first encounter (I can't tell you why) I returned to this fragrance. Each time I tried to sniff out the sweet pear, vanilla, ylang-ylang and orange blossom, but to no avail.

Currently I'm thinking of decluttering from my collection for the first time, and Aura was at the top of the list, with no reservations. And yet, two days ago, on a crisp bright spring day, I pulled it from the cabinet and sprayed it once more. Behold, there is the vanilla! The joyful, juicy pear! The light YY and orange blossom petals! Also a fine, soft sandalwood and the warmth of amber. I loved this so much, I sprayed it again at bedtime.

It's like sitting on the loamy redwood forest floor in a shaft of sunlight filtered through the tree bows. Like attempting to meditate and finally reaching that humming frequency! I finally get it and I won't be letting this go.

loves2read

It´s beautiful. When I close my eyes, I see fairies dancing in the meadow. I bet they smell like Aura. Out of this world fragrance.

electaplume

This was love at first sight, I couldn't stop thinking about this perfume. It's incredibly long-lasting with a truly unique scent. It exudes a "weird girl" energy, but in the best possible way. It's become one of my go-to perfumes.

Pola213

I love it!!!! It smells DIFFERENTand it stands out. Not floral, not really fruity.. this scent is very enigmatic :) There is something wet, waxy and plasticky about it. I love wearing it durinf spring showers and the beginning of fall.

aleah

I love, love, love it so much. Can't understand the low rating... once you get past the rhubarb top note it is morphing into one of the most extraordinary green scents. Compliment magnet (both the EDP and the flanker)

Serayyaren

Don't pay attention to the ridiculous comments below, it doesn't smell like grass, it smells unusual. If they asked me to make a list of the 10 most extraordinary fragrances ever created, Aura would be in the top 5.

yara.xo

smells like grass.. in fact you can just go outside and roll around on the floor and get the same scent for way cheaper

blushings

Sprayed on my wrists and on my chest/neck, and I'm getting two wildly different scents.

On my wrists, a straightforward but distinct vanilla. It's vanilla extract -- bitter but rich and heady, a bit of alcohol though not a warm bourbon type thing by any means.

On my chest the scent is more complex and has almost no vanilla. I get a whole bushel of rhubarb, chewed wintergreen, a subtle bergamot, whipped heavy cream without much sugar, and a moody mossy worn cashmere backdrop. I much prefer the chest.

I'm concluding that this one smells vastly different based on your body chemistry and also, whether or not you spray clothes, because the top and even middle notes only clung to my skin where it was covered by my shirt.

to play in the dark

Am I the only one to whom Aura smells like Secretions Magnifique's sweet herbal cousin? 🙃

KimberMoon

To me, this scent is WEIRD. Some days, I freakin love it and its weirdness. On other days, I don’t even know why it’s in my collection and I never want to wear it again, but on those days I know at some point I’m going to crave that weirdness again, so I don’t dare declutter it. It is a beast, 100% so you really have to be feeling it on the days you wear it. It’s a commitment. I think it’s planty and green, while still being a bit sweet, and there is a minty hint in there, but it’s not overbearing or toothpasty, just slightly fresh. Since it’s polarizing, my recommendation is just to wear it if you like it but if you’re going to be in an office or some other type of similar setting, watch your sprays. I’ve found that the more you spray, the weirder it is, but a few sprays won’t offend anyone. And, almost everything you read about it is true. It’s beautiful, green, shampooey, (think Prell if you’re old enough, it’s so similar), odd, unique, both a warm and a cold weather scent, comforting and off-putting, simultaneously. One thing it is not is cheap or body spray smelling. It’s definitely worth a sniff, and regardless of what anyone’s opinion is, you turn a fragrance into whatever you want it to be if you personally like it, regardless of what it is or what it smells like. So you do you, honey-that’s what matters. Just be nice and don’t overdo it.

Fruit-chan

Very weird scent. At first it smells so good like a shower with a luxury gel.Like a luxurious spa.
Very sweet and fresh.
But after having this for a couple of years stored into a dark cool place, the juice turned a dark color I could see it from the bottle and when I sprayed it,it was so extremely strong and perfumie.
Gave me an old school chypre fragrance sensation.Borderline "old lady" scent.
Maybe I'll try this again one day,Im thinking on getting a small bottle but Im afraid its gonna go "bad" again very soon.
Super long lasting and projects a ton.I remember I had gotten many compliments the few times I wore this.

JoolsF1

It took me years to find a perfume that I loved and that stayed smelling good on me. That perfume was Aura. The variety of comments in the reviews just show how differently perfumes work on different people. For me Aura has a story as it changes through the notes - I start with a walk through a cool, spicy damp forest, I then return home to my warm cosy cottage and relax before a sexy, steamy night with my lover. Yes, for me Aura has all of those depths. I always get compliments when I wear Aura. The fact that it has been discontinued has really saddened me. The Sensuelle version smells like sherbet by comparison. Thierry knew his perfumes. The choice to go generic has made me think twice about Mugler being my 'go to' perfume house. I find Angel and Alien just don't do it for me.

Maleficent's cotton candy

Ethereal forest entities, living, lush green leaves, dew and a delicate sprinkling of white sugar.

terezzz

Mugler's Aura was ahead of its time. Green vanilla fragrances have become more and more popular over the years so this is a hidden gem. The initial spray is quite medicinal and minty, but the dry down is nothing but a warm woody vanilla. It's one of the best evolutions of a scent that I've sniffed. Fantastic and unique. Sexy and long-lasting.

I want nothing more than for Mugler to keep making these peculiar yet satisfying fragrances. Scents that make you stand out from the crowd. We desperately need more unique compositions!!!

Elyka21

Love it, so unique 😍. Absolute masterpiece.

Candyshop12

This is a ambery powdery tune on the skin , not bad but not something id get into to wear for this scent. Its ok and it reminds me of a catholic school teacher or principal at a strict boarding school for girls in the 60's era. The school is creepy and dusty with old antique chairs and other furnishings and no boys are allowed.

Momopeach

I don't understand why so many people hate this!

It is definitely like nothing I have ever smelled. I'm normally scared when I see "green" as a top accord but I had fomo so I had to try it. It is NOT like green fresh cut grass. It is NOT bitter powdery green like angelica.

It's green like unripe strawberries, rhubarb, kiwi, and watermelon rind, it's almost peppery. It's much more juicy and sour than I anticipated like green apple candy, but with a super faint cold wintergreen/spearmint gum tinge to it, and the sweet vanilla is strong.

I agree with people who say this is one of the last true Mugler scents and it's a shame so many of the unique ones are discontinued.

muglerbarbie

wanted this for a long time and when i heard it was getting discontinued, i finally pulled the trigger. the longevity isn't what i remember it to be but maybe it needs heat to fully bloom. still as gorgeous as i remember.

yanitsvet

It smells sweet, slightly juicy and fresh like kiwi and vanilla shake! A wonderful well-balanced feminine scent! It's not cloying like some of the other Mugler fragrances. Not as unconventional as Angel, but more crowd pleasing. Suitable to be worn at any time of the year. I don't understand how someone could not like this scent.

fragrancetravel

It was an immediate hate. I walked around my house having my roommates and partner sniff - and they also hated it. One of them said it “Smelled like a mansion.” - not sure what that means lol. However, as it began to warm up on my skin and mix with my chemistry - it turned into a really lovely green vanilla. I can appreciate it for what it is but it won’t be a daily wear for me.

nastyenka

I wanted to love this one so much, but it just isn't for me. I adore the initial rhubarb note; the first few minutes have a lovely green feel that's a little like old school chypres.

Unfortunately, it transforms into a perfumey heap of pear, ylang-ylang, and vanilla on me. It's almost like a more cloying J'Adore at times. I wish I got the mint note others do.

Even though I've yet to find a Mugler that I love, I appreciate that they swing for the fences. There's a lot of interesting stuff going on!

Mc1995

The last good Mugler fragrance released. It’s an avant garde and strange creation, in a good way. That’s Thierry Mugler. Strange very sweet floral fragrance. Polarizing. It’s like a 2010’s answer to Cacharel Eden, weird but attractive green floral fragrance. Sad that this house has completely changed for the generic masses. Thierry is probably turning in his grave. As bad as that sounds.

MissAttitude

I just heard it is about to be discontinued. I was lucky enough to get a notification of a forgotten 50ml bottle, so I got it instantly to stock up. This is still an absolutely magical perfume. It's my very first Mugler and was a blind buy. So infuriating that they tossed this treasure away. A perfume which doesn't really remind me of any memories, doesn't give me a certain lifestyle vibe. She's both cold and warm, fresh and sweet, calm and spicy, light and dark. I love Aura because I can project anything I want into her and not the other way around. Sometimes I need no strings attached, a clean slate without nostalgia. I have a lot of perfumes that don't exactly go with my favourite looks and I have the urge to dress up for them or find specific occasions to wear them. Aura's not like them, she doesn't ask me to dress more colourful, classy or pretty. Be it grunge, witchy, lazy and comfy, femme fatale, all dark uniform-ish look, she's my friend. Honestly she accepts and adapts to any of my preferred styles. She's strong, have a sillage and lasting power, especially on clothes (I smelled her on my once-worn-then-toss dress after a week) but ready to compromise. The only harsh opinion I have, is that this one is not the colourful, extra feminine, dressed in beige and light colours type of friend. The smell is green, but a darker green. Kinda like a picture taken in the forest but in the late afternoon or in the evening with shadows around.
Plus, it's still the ultimate slytherin B vibe!

I really hope there's gonna be a dupe for it because I'm unable to find any similar sweet-spicy-green frag.

Galaxie Girl

I just got this and I’m in LOVE! I bought it blind, based solely on the reviews (many of which are polarizing), because it sounded like a scent I needed and my curiosity got the best of me. Plus, I do love most of the Mugler scents.

It is indeed unusual, very odd, exotic and almost creepy, in the best way?? It reminds me a lot of Cacharel ‘Eden’ that I had in the late 90s, and I used to call that my ‘scary/amphibious’ perfume! Below is an old poem that I think totally describes the scent, in a story…

“My mother said that I never should
Play with the gypsies in the wood.
The wood was dark, the grass was green;
By came Sally with a tambourine.

I went to sea - no ship to get across;
I paid ten shillings for a blind white horse.
I upped on his back and was off in a crack,
Sally tell my mother I shall never come back..”

That’s exactly what I thought of the moment I smelled this divine perfume.

madecel

I dont hate this fragrance but it's just not for me. I don't mind a good fresh, green scent, but this is very over the top - I couldn't really pick up the floral notes, this is extremely green.

OMG!!! This is beautiful😭 I can't believe it's discontinued, this is the best perfume from Mugler after Womanity, it's such a different smell, VERY UNIQUE, so creamy, so well made, Thierry Mugler had innovative ideas and knew how to choose his perfumers, this one smells like green tea mixed with grass , root beer, candy cane, pepsi nitro and NyQuil 😂 I know, I know, very rare in theory, but it has a glorious harmony, if magic had a smell it would be this one, this would be Maleficent's signature perfume. 💚✨ Or poison ivy

Aura was the most stunning sharp green vanilla. I was bitterly disappointed by its being discontinued. There is absolutely nothing like it.

beta-ionone

I'm sad this is discontinued but I understand. I just thought of it today because my mom cleaned the bathroom with Ajax and LimeAway and I thought someone had sprayed perfume and I was just getting wafts of a perfume but it was just a mix of fragrance from cleaning chemicals. Lol.

MamasGirlCustom

The second I sniff this it's like someone shoved a sharp knife up through my nose to my brain. I freaking love the bottle. I can understand in theory why people say it's cool and interesting. But I tried to wear this so many ways, and it just doesn't work from me. It's a sharp green gummy bear brain freeze every second until I scrub it off, and then wipe the area with alcohol. Still keeping it at a trinket though. She's really cute laying in front of all my alien bottles.

whisperology

I've never smelled anything like this. Both in love and perplexed at first sniff. Something minty and wintergreen about the opening. It is winter here which could be influencing that - so curious about this in warm weather. I think for fall this would be entirely too strange and at odds with the environment.

The initial dry-down smells exactly like one of those Mr. Sketch scented markers! I think the green or blue one. Core childhood memory for me.

I can't believe how long the greenness sticks around, I was smelling it on my clothes the next morning. This scent is truly so hard to describe. It's a minty, tart, green jungle and the wearer is a mystical feminine creature residing within it. This is extra terrestrial and confusing but still wearable.

This has that unmistakable Mugler *oomph*. Even if it's not your initial cup of tea to wear, I think you will still want to go back and sniff multiple times after spraying to get to know this one.

MoodyTomato

Very mad it's been discontinued💔... I love it so much :(

AlexandraRoseD

Was so intrigued by the polarizing reviews, so I had to try it.

One of the best blind buys I had. Very wearable, pleasant and unique!

Very long lasting and fortunately not a sugar bomb!

Nipon

Is this discontinued ? If it's not pls tell me how many times this scent has been reformulated or it has never reformulated before? Thx

massimilianoinquieto

Dunque niente.

robertogibson

I adore this fragrance! I get a fresh wintergreen smell wearing this in cold weather that is absolutely addictive. It’s not fruity but slighty sweet from the pear too! I don’t get how anybody can find this scent offensive, it’s sexy, green and slighty creamy from the vanilla. A very unique scent that I can’t get enough of! It’s not cloying like some of the other Mugler fragrances.

Maryam.marcy.may.marlene

i wished this is as sexy as the advert looks but it's not. it is mysterious but not on par with MJ Decadence (why do they have to discontinue that?!?!) I wore this in early October in Paris and I usually spray A LOT. between 8-10 sprays but it's gone very fast and i have no memories of Paris with this scent. but at night strolling Champ De Mars climbing the steps in between the trees and whiffed this on me - it was magical. I didnt get compliments from my BF so im guessing men (who r not into this hobby) will not gravitate twrds this type of scent. Definitely for someone eclectic, kitschy and unconventional but this safe and demure... like Emma Watson! just my 2 cents! ^_^

MissMarco

I love this unique, green vanilla. The top or green notes may definitely confuse some or have annotations to bug spray , be off-putting or what not, but to me these add a foresty , ethereal note to the fragrance.i loved this at first sniff and really excited to have it as the third Mugler in my collection together with Alien and Angel Nova ❤️

scentedhiro

Have to say... not a fan of this one. I was leery of this when I saw it sitting on the clearance rack of my local Shopper's Drug Mart, but still bought it anyway. I didn't mind it when I first smelled it, even wore it once. The green notes in this one worked decently well, especially going into spring at the time of purchase. Then I picked it up again another day and boom, instant headache. It's interesting, this is the only perfume so far that has been able to give me a headache. Something about the way the vanilla interacts with the other notes, it starts with a blast of what is almost mint, but then it goes into something syrupy sweet. Extremely medicinal, almost like cough syrup. Alas, it sits in a drawer now, waiting to hopefully be sold or gifted to someone soon.

sparkshannahe

got a partial of this on ebay and it was one of my first true loves and started my obsession with all things green. this is one that i regularly get compliments on, very wearable and lasts for hours. I like this in the spring and fall - the coumerin gives it a wonderful depth but i wouldn't want to smell it in the hot summer, when i am always trying to keep the smells of sweat and garbage at bay. 5/5, she will be missed.

sunnyviolets

Something that has gotten the best of me until now. One of the most interestingly wearable fragrances I've encountered. Definitely other-worldly. Despite the notes listed here I'm willing to bet there's violet in this. Mixed with the vanilla and possibly some peppermint or some green note I have yet to place.

Truly something unique - at times nose-scrunchy and at others quite pleasant. All it really needs to be complete is a breeze from Planet Aura. Ahhh.

TwistedWhiskers

I'm trying on Aura again because it's Halloween Month, and I'm liking it quite a bit more this time than when I first tried it back in January. It's still not a fragrance I'd ever buy a bottle of, but the opening wasn't disgusting or unsettling to me today- the cough syrup vibe that I mainly object to seems much tamer (though it's definitely still there). I'm still mystified by all the people who get loads of vanilla from this scent- I love vanilla and would not describe this as a vanilla-based scent at all. I can't smell anything I can even clearly identify as vanilla. There's something sweet, yes, but that's as far as I'll go. I also am mystified by how many people believe they smell mint. Nothing even remotely minty for me, just generally herbal and green. I still think Aura smells mainly like Prell shampoo, but with a deeply weird accord in the opening and an overall experience that improves more and more as this weirdness fades. It reached that stage much quicker for me this time, and this is another sample I think I'll enjoy finishing up during this Halloween month of "perfume costumes"!

Taurien

Aura and I have had a relationship that has been escalating exponentially.

When it was released, it was a perfume that I didn't like. In fact, I never bought it and opted for the Sensuelle version, which was easier to wear in my opinion. A long time later, a sample of a dupe of this fragrance fell into my hands and I found it amazing, it completely conquered me. So I had to start the hunt of this discontinued perfume. And I got at a very good price, a 30 ml size without a box that was missing about 8 ml. I told myself that to have the opportunity to confirm if I really liked the perfume (you never know how successful a dupe can be) and to include a few ml in the collection this was enough. After using it twice I had to look for a replacement and now I have a 90 ml bottle that will allow me to use up the small one without worries. After not liking it at the beginning, Aura has become one of the very few perfumes that I have a replacement for.

The smell of this fragrance is quite shocking the first few times. A deeply green and somewhat medicinal aroma with a delicious vanilla background. Both facets fight to be the protagonists during the life of the perfume and I, as a silent witness of this fight, can't stop enjoying it. At the beginning the green notes and rhubarb are the winners of this battle but they are overtaken by vanilla as the life of the perfume progresses.

It gives me a magical scent, a perfume that evokes a wild but calm nature, the perfect signature fragrance for the elves of the Lothlórien forest, a strange gourmand for those of us who have tried rhubarb-based pastries.

I apply it generously (I can't help it!) and on my skin it has good projection and lasts more than 12 hours, delighting me throughout the day.

Ours seemed an impossible love but it has ended up being true love.

definitely a signature worthy scent, it’s very unique, please don’t buy it before trying on your skin cuz your skin changes it tooo much. it soo sweet minty candy on my skin and it’s suitable for all year round wear as well. love itt

Nigdylandia

I would like it if not for the vanilla. Oh well it was only a decant from fellow perfum enthusiast.

qianqian

Green, peppery, spicy. Classic Mugler bottoms. Quite cool!

spiderleenie

Had to delete my other review, as my opinion has changed after trying this fragrance out for the past several days. I was on the fence, but now I can say that I know how to feel about this perfume.

I've come to the conclusion that I hate this stuff. To me, this perfume just straight up smells like toilet cleaner. I get major "Pine Sol" realness from this perfume.

I don't want to wear something that makes me smell like a toilet-- even if that toilet has been cleaned. lol.

joelleb10

Aura opens to a Tiger Balm, green medicinal smell. It dries down to the best woody vanilla with a citrus twist that lasts over 8 hours on skin & forever on clothes.
My favourite fragrance of the past 3 years. There's nothing else like it that I know of.

SuperSueChick

I wanted something odd and weird today.
I stood there with my wet hair wrapped and tucked in a towel contemplating which one have I ignored this year so far?
The light and where I was standing made the green Aura bottle sparkle.
...and myself like a barracuda am attracted to shiney and sparkly things.

Closed my eyes and daringly applied to my left forearm. That's it, I did it. No turning back.

Wowsers does this little guy pack a green mean punch!

Its longevity and silliage are outstanding performers for such an obnoxious scent. Kind of reminds me of some men, but that's a whole other subject.
Sigh, why can't fragrances I love perform this outstanding? Come to think of it, that reminds me of some people as well, lol.

All day I smelled this wondering where the heck I've smelled this before. Its definitely a masculine kind of aftershave scent. Oddly it didn't trigger any memory. I know I have smelled this but just couldn't pin point it.

My husband came home from work and as soon as he leaned in to kiss me he chuckled and asked me if I had put on men's Joop.
J O O P!!!!
Omg, yes, my husband solved my day long mystery.
I ran upstairs, I know I have a bottle somewhere.
Found it, sprayed my right forearm, and Aura Mugler is a more Minty and Powdery version of Joop for men!

Redolence Cove

Is it really getting discontinued? No! This fragrance is absolutely amazing. I can't believe it. Just like others have said, it's incredibly, awesomely bizarre. Almost fairy-tale like. It's a green, deep vanilla.

Melody Valentine

Yeah, I'm a bit embarrassed by my last review but I'll leave it up coz it's genuinely how I felt about it from memory and obviously how I perceived it first time around but...

This isn't at all how I remembered it to be. It's not half as weird or strange or medicinal or anything as I recalled. I remembered a thick, green, syrupy thing. It's just very fresh and quite, normal. It's sort of how I remember DKNY Be Delicious. It's neither here nor there.

I don't hate it or love it and I'm not bothered about it being discontinued now. It's not something I'd wear now. Too light for me. I take back the statement this could have been called Alien. At least fomo won't haunt me about it anymore.

*Hang on...I tried it again today in January 2024 and the far dry down is actually really nice! Powdery, sweet and almost candied. A little bit creamy. Only problem is it's a total skinscent by this point. That's a shame coz it really is lovely. At first spray I thought I still wasn't keen but sitting here now I can smell it on myself. Sort of like Parma Violets but not violet flavoured, if that makes sense to anyone 😅 I might wear this in summer but I'll have to seriously over spray it coz I'm an over sprayer anyway. I like other people to notice my perfume and I don't think people would at this stage. I've changed my mind a few times about this one now. Kinda annoyed it is discontinued coz if I end up really loving it I can't keep replacing it.

fyre92

This smells like green bourbon vanilla on my mom and NyQuil on me……. That sucks.

Even she was like “why does it smell like that?”

I gave it to her but silver lining. I fell in love with alien even harder.

SalinasL

This is such a weird scent. The first time I tried it, all I could smell was burning tires. Now it smells a bit like green gummy bears or jello? With some vanilla. I don’t think I’ve ever been quite so on the fence about whether I like something or not. I can’t imagine wearing it all day and feeling this disconcerted for hours. But it’s definitely an improvement from the burnt rubber smell so I will continue to retest now and then.

MoodyTomato

Unique, misterious, powerful, everchanging but lasting - it's with you to stay.
I can not comprehend why would they discontinue such a beauty. It's a shame!
Precious jungle heart 💚Aura is my all times favorite.

MyScentBubble

I absolutely love this. In my opinion it's not that unique maybe I'm just used to it. I don't smell any green either really. To me it's just a really good vanilla, Fruity vanilla. ♡

Mvaldesvila

This is such a weird scent to describe, the only way I can put it is "creamy green".
It is quite unique in all areas, including the bottle. But I truly enjoy it and find it to be suitable for work, with moderate to long-lasting projection.

scendictedalways

This smells like a green, herbal candy. Like most of Mugler scents, it smells weird. It's either you like it or you don't. But definitely you would stand out from the crowd. Personally, I LOVE this. I do have a lot of perfumes that are crowd-pleasers. But I also love beautiful and quirky oddballs.

Ghostkiller4kandy

Got a sample to try&I can't wear this again,I'm happy for those it works for~♡~just really smells like flat soda&peppermint gum in a very off putting way&suffocating &not mysterious, last well, love the bottle tho😉 💚

aa:]05

I have a sample of this perfume, and personally I quite dislike it, it’s very pungent, reminiscent of grass and vanilla sweets, sandalwood is also prominent. I can see why others love it but it’s really not my type of fragrance, a single spray is nauseating for me and gives me a headache! I do like the drydown however after around 6-8 hours, only then do I find the scent pleasant, the greeness has faded massively by then.

Scent- 2/10
Longevity- 8.5/10
Sillage- 8/10

Beagn

Like one of the girls said below, I also bought it cause it looked like something from the legend of Zelda OFT and, unlike her, I actually love it.
It’s one of the weirdest scents I have but it’s very unique. I love love love it - and I get salty smell in the beginning, but nobody said a word about it as far as I read.

Maybe it’s me?

Atina365

It has become my signature which used to be the pre-reformulation OG Alien. Aura is divine and makes me feel like a forest fairy. It feels ethereal and definitely agrees with my skin. I'd wear it daily for every season and occasion.

mapnr

woodsy citrusy sweet tarts. love.

otterfaces

Admittedly, I bought a sample vial of this just because I liked the bottle- it looks like a Spiritual Stone from Ocarina of Time! I wanted to love it- I do love green notes- but this was not the one. Someone else said it smells of vanilla cream soda with peppermint syrup mixed in, and I agree completely. Dries down to a strong, sweet sandalwood. I can see why people are saying Maleficent would wear this- she would, and it would work for her. But not me!

Majestic_Red

Intense, green, sweet... wear it in the winter, love how it smells on a thick sweater or winter jacket. Love it 💚

cowboygenesis

truly unique. the rhubarb note is something i haven't come across before, and 'aura' plays around it with great care and imagination. definitely a wood-like scent with the sweetness of orange blossom, however i struggle to give it the justice it deserves with my description. try this out for yourself whenever you get the chance, as calling this perfume 'addictive' would be a massive understatement.

PollyP123

I’ve had a bottle of Aura for a couple of years now, it’s a fragrance I don’t often reach for but sometimes the mood just takes me and I have to wear it. I love the journey of it, the opening and dry down are so different, it starts as dark green foliage and ends in warm woods. It’s a scent for cool, rainy days, sweet but not in a cutesy way (try Marc Jacobs Perfect EDP if you want a similar vibe that’s more sparkling and youthful). Interesting to hear it’s being discontinued, I’ll continue wearing it a few times a year when the mood hits me and enjoy it while it lasts.

Melody Valentine

This could have easily been called Alien if Alien didn't already exist. It's so weird but nice, in a very typical Mugler way. I've never owned it, only tried it in shops, but I remember thinking it was very medicinal, cold, anti septic smelling even for me who likes that type of thing it made me question if I liked it or not. I did like it though, and now I know it's being discontinued I'll probably start craving it, FOMO will get to me. I agree with everyone who said its like sweet, minty syrup at first but creamy at the same time. It's definitely not for everyone, I can see why some people hate it,. Like with Alien, it smells like how the bottle looks. If a shiny green jewel had a smell it'd be this. These kinds of perfumes were my absolute favourite when I was younger though, I loved anything strange and sort of witchy 😂 it's very creative and cool. This is less dark, gothic, witchy and more green eyed, magical forrest creature. Like i imagine an ethereal woman in a long pale green dress, BRIGHT green laser eyes, pale skin and can connect to the very essence of the Earth and make it lightning with the power of thought alone. Shes a good but very powerful being. Without being too dramatic like haha. I'm kinda scared to get it knowing it's being discontinued incase I fall in love with it. It might be better to just remember that it was nice and let it go.

Eriksen

This is a funny one..... I get a strong cucumber smell. It settles into a surprisingly pleasent smell.

ipuks3

Nu nezinu. Es ar šo aromātu tā arī nesadraudzējos. Man viņš vairāk atvērās kā ass, smags,pārāk uzbāzīgs aromāts. Neko no piramīdas īsti nesajutu. Smaržas atdevu meitai,tā starā.

Tshahb

Pretty harsh opening, but gosh, it dries down into a wonderful, creamy sandlewood with some fruit stirred into it.

I get more pear than rhubarb.

The drydown is among my current favourites, and while there's a touch of ambroxan, it doesn't overwhelm, it adds a sort of nuttiness to the whole effect. It's not exactly gourmand, but it's not far off either.

Ethereal and unique. Amazing performance too, of course.

fyre92

Rhubarb,milk,flower stems,woods,vanilla,musk ,ambroxan.

This is bizarre asf and pretty. It’s smelled like milky NyQuil the first 4 times I smelled it. Now it smells like someone is cooking milk and vanilla beans in a cast iron pot in the woods.

Idk idk idk but I can see why it was discontinued. This is very much niche styled in a market that is absolutely not the place for it.

It’s growing on me I think.

fyre92

Give it a chance…. The dry down is great but that beginning is ummmmm 🤔 idk lol
I’ll come back to this later

Ali Langer

So… this amazing fragrance is in fact being discontinued. I just got an email back from customer service confirming it.

Not sure why the company that owns Mugler thinks it’s a good idea to discontinue and completely reformulate what were some of the most incredible designer fragrances on the market, but it’s massively disappointing for sure.

I ordered a big bottle of Aura as a backup, but I think I’m going to move away from this house. It was once my favorite, but the last several releases have been major letdowns, and the fact that Angel Muse and Aura have both been discontinued is the last straw for me… It seems Angel Nova and Womanity were also discontinued, and although I don’t have confirmation on that, I wouldn’t be surprised because of the direction this brand is going. Such a bummer.

peachygal

I didn’t understand what I was smelling and then came here and read some reviews and i also get quite a lot of mint from this one. Sweet, minty and creamy is how I would describe this one. The mint or whatever it is that smells like mint makes it a bit sharp so it’s not a love for me but I do enjoy it. Performs incredibly well too.

Definitely a weird mugler scent

brainrott

i got this as a gift and i absolutely do not like this at all. starts off nice and sweet and has a weird minty grass smell to it. smells terrible on my skin.

reaganthewitch

It smells like if you mixed mint syrup into a vanilla cream soda, which might sound disgusting in theory but I find it delicious smelling!

AlyssaBrindley

I have a bottle of this, 90% full, does NOT work with my chemistry. Let me know if you’re wanting to trade. Thanks!!!

Sharon39

I nearly bought a bottle of this a few months ago but then was put off by peoples reviews of it saying it smells very green like grass or saying it has a menthol or medicinal smell to it but my curiosity to try it didnt disappear and so i took the plunge and bought a bottle. I am so glad i did because i love it!!
It seems to be one of those perfumes which smells different to different people. For instance I get a lot of sweetness and fruits with something really aromatic that I can't put my finger on. It smells bright and fresh but it also smells airy if it's breezy and u catch a waft of it. Saying that though my sister smelt it on me and was like "omg that stinks what are you wearing its horrible" she gets the menthol and medicinal smell people have mentioned so out of curiosity I went around my family in the room one by one to see what they got from it lol ..
My brother in law said "I haven't a clue what that smells like it's weird but I like it" one of my nephews said "weird, smells like sweet dirt" my other nephew said "it smells like grass when it's just been cut and like plants in a plant pot and a bit minty" and my son said "omg that's weird I can't make out whether I love it or hate it. It smells like grass and soil and dirt but really sweet and fruity at the same time" then he finished off with "i got it i know what it smells like, smells exactly like the magic mushrooms i had when I was in Amsterdam, like earthy and sweet. I actually really like it" 🙄 then his girlfriend came in so I gave her a sniff and she was like "mmmmmm i love that, it reminds me of the smell of cocktails on holiday and drinking cocktails on the beach"
It seems different noses are picking up different things because I don't get any menthol or earth or dirt or plant pot smell thankfully lol maybe on occasion the slightest bit of grass but as soon as I think was that grass I could smell its gone again so maybe I'm just imagining it lol anyhow, i will no doubt end up buying another bottle when this runs out. It is a typical mugler fragrance. It's different, a conversation starter looks beautiful and I love it, can't stop sniffing myself when I wear it 😍

bajablast

not for me. intense green sweetness. snaps for creativity, this is what Mugler should be about

ohmydarlingcats

I understand why so it’s so divisive. It’s a very intense, complex and deeply aromatic experience. Evoked a sense of dread and can be a bit suffocating despite its fresh undercurrent.

I’m not sold on it but I can’t say I would rather walk the stairs then be in an elevator with someone who’s wearing it.

selinacat

If you miss Ricci Ricci, this is her grassy springtime cousin. It's quirky, in a unique way same as Alien. They smell nothing alike, but share that same strong bold personality. If Alien smells sexy to you, this will come off as a fruity gentle dream. If you aren't into bold, attention seeking scents, avoid. But I'm a weirdo with a big personality, so I love this.

The silage is so intense though that its almost a bad thing. 1-2 sprays is really all you need, but I like to spray in key places all over. So, I need to be selective.

The only people I'd say could blindbuy this were people who get on with complicated compositions like OG Alien. I could definitely see this smelling drastically different based on body chemistry. I think that's why so many people have strong opinions.

But, there are a sea of fruity flowerbombs and gentle florals. I doubt this will survive the harsh reality of consumption, but I'm buying a refill now while I can. Hopefully, that should last me forever. I did the same with my OG Alien, I love Mugler refills. And I deeply appreciate a scent that manages to leave me with a distinctive memory.

LulaValentine

This… this is something else. Absolutely out of this world. Fresh, crisp, but not sharp and still somehow a bit creamy.

I almost blind bought this but everyone says this isn’t a safe blind buy so I purchased a decant from an awesome fellow Fragrantica member and my suspicions were confirmed; I love this scent!

I can’t stop smelling my wrist. The silage and longevity are fantastic as well.

On my skin, the pear is the note that takes center stage and I absolutely love it! Wow. I haven’t been blown away by a scent like this in a while. It doesn’t happen often.

This will be a staple in my collection from here on out.

AlyssaBrindley

It’s a love hate for me.
I think the love comes from the fact that this smells absolutely like nothing I’ve ever smelt before.

The hate is that it’s so unique, when I wear this people don’t know it’s perfume.

It’s just a general “scent” that floats around me.
Has she been rolling in someone’s farmers market stand, or is that her perfume? Who knows.

WoodsyLove

I blind bought huge bottle of this one the moment it came out in 2017 because of the design. Back then after few wears the experience was less than enjoyable as I got suffocated by the vanilla as to me it's really prominent even though not in the way we're used to feel it in other fragrances, way more greeny and rhubarby, cold vanilla yet somehow sweet, as people mentioned below suitable for a villain woman, quite unusual overall. Still I couldn't tolerate it, but didn't want to swap it because I adored the bottle, so I put it in the back of the perfume drawer and forgot about it. So just yesterday I was wondering what to wear as the weather here is really strange - we have this really cold Spring, almost like late Autumn and I decided to revisit it, something in the back of my head was tickling me and whispering Aura. I'm not sure which is it - the years passed and the maceration, or my taste has slightly changed, but surprise, surprise now it has turned to me to something gorgeous, I feel it warm and inviting, so different than my first experience with it. I will wear it proudly as it matches perfectly the vibe of this strangely cold weather we have here.

P.S this is not discontinued. Still available on TM's website.

ellasfragrancelibrary

WOW. My collection is pushing 20 bottles and I still ran to buy this after taking the first sniff from a vial sample. When you first spray, it’s a green, citrus mint puff; almost medicinal, but not sharp at all. It then quickly turns into this creamy, spicy, almost licorice smell with the green notes sitting in the background. I’ve seen a lot of people say it smells like root beer and I do agree, but it smells almost EXACTLY like rockstar energy drink original flavor (yum). I hope my description does it some kind of justice because this is a gorgeous and unique fragrance.

Im_only_lurking

Tried on a store a couple days ago and oh my goood I want it! It is weird but in the best way possible. I can not make out the notes. At first spray I did not like it because it started kind of sour but after a while I could not stop smelling it on my arm. Very intriguing and with a lot o character like others said.

longevity is great, I can still smell it after 12 hours

jessica_chinos

Oh my God!!! I was thinking just the same thing as Iridiscent Bee, who commented below, this is Maleficent's perfume!! Like a woman with so much character would wear it! Kinda evil scent, like a poison to lure her victims into her lair.

I like it! Not enough to buy it, but I just like it. If someone gifted this to me, I would totally wear it with my enemies MUA HA HA!

Iridescent Bee

This is exactly the perfume I picture Maleficent wearing - scent, bottle, vibe... the whole package.

druxyroses

It smells like minty root beer from an alien planet. Such a unique and beautiful combination of notes. It's on Mugler's website still, but I don't think it can be purchased anymore. This was my signature scent when I was 19 and I'll always cherish it. The dry down is the best part.

cats_eye

This isn't discontinued. It's still on their website alongside Womanity. Angel Muse has been discontinued however.

BlackDawn616

I'm in love with that fragrance from the first moment i smell it. That sweet vanilla with green fresh notes is so unique.

anyanareden

It is strange, sexy and clean. Smells like a tropical jungle to me.

LulaValentine

Could someone kindly pm me with some recs on where I can find some samples or decants of this for a good price? I’ve wanted to try this forever and they never have testers out anywhere in my locale. I live in the US, if that helps.

Parfumului35

This has been discontinued :(

springside

I used to HATE this fragrance. I blind bought it, and the first thing it did was punch me right in the nose. It smelled like screechy white noise and thick green snapped stems. It gave me a headache immediately. I shoved it in the back of my perfume shelf and didn't look at it for over a year.

Smelling it again, it's grown on me. I've gone on more journeys and smelled more scents and I understand it more. It's still not my favorite, but I've been able to properly integrate it into my collection. It's gentler to me now, fresh and crisp, perfect for an afternoon walk in early spring or a chilly nighttime stroll. It starts with a cold medicinal tang, but evens out to softer white florals with time. It does become powdery, and it lingers for far longer than I usually want it to, but that doesn't mean it's an unwelcome guest. I just needed to learn to be more patient with it.

JasmineSky

Smells like Bengay at first, but then it dries down and turns into something a bit more magical, with just a hint of that menthol scent lingering about ( i'm guessing the "green note" is peppermint).

AlexandraTroush

A true OG Mugler, "like in the old days". Either you love it or you hate it, or as in my case- both. I had and loved it 4 years ago, used about half of my 30ml bottle and then decluttered it, having come to absolutely despise it all of a sudden. Now I love it again, and bought a full 50ml + 10ml for trips. Ever since it got discontinued I became a little paranoid about never really taming this beauty. If we stop being friends I'll just put it away for some time, until we go back to speaking terms again. Even if it takes years, as has already happened to me.

It is SO capricious, I must say, but then all the more gorgeous when it's in a good mood. Today happened to be a sunny day with very strong and cold wind, and I am in awe of its beauty. It smells like HEAVEN in the wind. I'm convinced this is one of those claustrophobic scents that need air. It panics in closed spaces, sends its thick tentacles in all directions in search of an exit, choking everyone in the process. It's a wild horse, you can't just force it to obey. If you are lucky enough, it *might* let you take a ride without throwing you off and breaking your back.

You really can't help but admire it, even when it doesn't play by your rules.

BTW, the shower milk is absolutely divine (it's creamier and softer than the perfume), and you can smell it on your skin half a day after you've showered. Get it if you can.

seaglassbay

This is one of my signature fragrances and it's the perfect example for the importance of the right chemistry with the wearers skin. On me it smells beautiful, powdery, good-strange, different. But other perfumes which are beloved by thousands, don't smell good on me. It's really completely random. Aura is really unusual though, and I like that.

minnosyne

Something about this perfume makes me go absolutely feral. I smell it and I feel like I have to sink my teeth into it. I'm not getting root beer, but I am getting something that's probably very similar- the kind of old fashioned pink bubblegum that comes rolled in powder and wrapped in paper, that's usually rock hard until it warms up, and tastes ever so slightly like mint. Whatever it is that makes this perfume read as 'green' is lush and hot and humid. It's bizarre and I love it so much.

The drydown might be even better- a warm vanilla with a vague incense-like note that reminds me of a cozy, eclectic tea shop filled with mismatched chairs, lit solely by candlelight. This is what I imagine it'd smell like if you walked into the witch's store in The Craft.

Moukka

One day I smelled something sweet and little powdery like ylang ylang and vanilla. It was strong and creamy very cozy. Then I saw a customer who was the source of this scent. When she came closer to pay her groceries I smelled root beer and something green and medicinal. My first thought was "I bet this is Aura". Many reviews said that it has root beer or medicinal notes. Later that day I got my bottle of Aura edp. It was blind buy but I read many reviews of it before purchasing it. First spray and I recognized the scent immediately, my customer on the grocery store! This is very strong and longevity is 8h+. My bottle is from 2017, I purchased almost full bottle pre-owned.

rorokoko

Eff the haters. Aura is ethereal, Aura is divine, Aura is a forest nymph’s secret whispers.

O+M+D

Juicy, yummy, mouthwatering, fresh, green, standout. This is just as unique as any other Mugler but it's probably their most wearable.

vulnicured

I got a small sample yesterday cause I've been wanting to expand on my Mugler collection a little bit, since I absolutely adore Alien but couldn't quite get behind Angel and was curious to try another main Mugler creation.

As soon as I sprayed it on my wrist I noticed how delicious, bright, and sparkly the opening was, I was quite pleased and pleasantly surprised! So, everything was going quite well and promising until I reached the dry down...oh my god, the bright sparkly opening soon became extremely cloying and overly sweet mixed with a kind of chemically scent that is quite reminiscent of a mosquito repellent mixed with artificial vanilla, chemically and sticky so to speak, it made me quite nauseous every time I caught a whiff. The scent became more unbearable and loud over time that even the lady next to me on the bus was kind of covering her nose cause she couldn't stand how I was smelling..the smell lingered on my skin for a good 9 hours after that too and couldn't quite get it off my skin, so this is not a safe blind buy at all!

I really wanted to love this perfume, cause like I said, I adoooore Alien, it's my signature scent, and also the bottle looks so beautiful that I was considering buying it for the bottle and the price alone! (Even if it's content made me nauseous) cause it was on sale at my favorite perfume shop. Sadly this fragrance isn't quite for me, but as much as I quite dislike it I can understand the appeal that it might have, as a good Mugler creation, this fragrance is very very divisive and jarring but has a certain beauty within it, however, I will stick to my beloved Alien for now.

Morgan45

No, no, no. I have a sample of this and tried it again today just see because it has so many awesome reviews. In the opening I like it OK, but the cloying sweet muskiness in the drydown turns my stomach and it cannot be scrubbed off.
I have the same problem with Givenchy Irresitible. I LOVE that fragrance until the drydown, then it smells just like this one and I can't get away from it. The only common note is pear but it's not the pear. Is it??!!?

RRouge23

I blind bought this because I was having someone bring it to me from abroad and I wanted to grab a few gift sets to add to my collection. Then I read the reviews here and started to get nervous because of the number of people who said unflattering things about it. But when I opened the box, OMG!!! That lush magical forest with tropical fruits smell emanated from it and I pleasantly said “oh” out loud. My husband scrambled over to smell it and he said this stuff was amazing. It’s really magical. It’s like nothing I’ve ever smelt. This is the perfume I want to wear when I miss the mountains and jungles of Sri Lanka and Thailand. It’s a green fresh vanilla and as a person who loves living in the jungle, it smells so comforting and like home to me. It is one of my signature scents and I’m buying up all the back ups I can find. I’m glad a lot of people don’t like it because it smells really fresh, juicy and sweet on me without being cloying in the tropical heat. Absolute love. This perfume is genius. 10/10! Definitely not for everyone, I think people who have naturally sour or metallic skin notes will not benefit from this. But if scents like shea and cocoa butter are closer to your natural scent, this smells rich and fresh!

smellslikecoffee

The opening is gorgeous! Smells like my garden in spring after the rain.

But unfortunately, this fades in 10 minutes or so. The dry down is totally different: sweet, woody and... artificial. Not totally unpleasant, but too generic imo. Better suited as an air refresher in bathrooms indeed.

It lasts for hours. But on my skin, it turns into a skin scent rather quickly.

So if I were Mugler, I would take the beautiful bottle and the very nice opening and give it a better, more natural base and more sillage.

lmnsvgz

this is INSANE. this is a syrup infused with green leaves and grass. it sounds disgusting but the perfume is STUNNING. I love it. It is medicinal, it is weird, but it is GOOD.

clear.peach

this is a weird one for me, and not in a way like its complex or challenging. the closest thing i can pinpoint is that i associate it with the kind of smell i would run visiting a friend's house as a kid that has cats, scented cat litter and some kind of heavy air freshener in the air. The vanilla can be nice at points, but for now its "green-ness" just evokes a scented trash bag kind of thing for me.

CelestialBleü

I have passed this by several times over the years. The bottle is beautiful. Eye catching. But, never tried it.
A friend was cleaning out her collection, and gave me almost a full bottle. She said she bought it when it first came out as an impulse buy. It just never really grew on her. I took a quick whiff. Wow, yuk. I looked up the notes. Thought it would settle and be a beauty. IMHO, a scrubber.
It smells metallic, and like Vicks vapor rub mixed with spices and cleaner. (The kind used in the airport bathrooms in Asia). Which I'm assuming is the ylang-ylang.

beta-ionone

Still love this and wear it sparingly as to not use up my bottle but now I wish I had a similar scent that was more watery or aquatic. Maybe if it was it would smell even more like a masculine shower gel or barbershop scent. It already does smell masculine but I love wearing it.

Comicalcupcake

Fragrantica has this as an amber?! Interesting. I had a mini of it and heard it was being discontinued, so I impulsively bought a whole giant bottle. I love it but it takes a certain kind of day to wear it.

It's quite hard to describe this scent. It's green but sweet. Wheatgrass-rhubarb smoothie? The vanilla and some kind of earthy smell lend a root beer impression. And there's something intensely buttery, too, perhaps the ylang ylang. Buttery green root beer? Sounds weird but it's worth a try if you like sweet and unusual scents!

Vintila R.

I was looking for a green scent that reminded me of a dark jungle or forest. I got this on a sale and... oh no! I am surprised about how sweet it is. To me, it is not a green fragrance that has a medicine/candy vibe, it is more like a medicine product that is flavoured with sugar (sugar, not high-quality vanilla) and green ingredients (grass/leaf) to make it better. It is a different creation, odd enough to be a Mugler. The way I experienced it on my skin makes me think that this is clearly forcing everything to be different but it is not outstanding or mysterious, it's just experimental. It is pretty linear after the green synthetic opening. It lasts about 5 hours on my skin with a decent projection.

SmokeyLady

I don't know why everyone say this is unique and difficult fragrance. It is a little basic compared to other Muglers( the great three) . Maybe because there aren't many green designer's perfumes.

Refreshing and great for the summer. Most beautiful bottle, but to me it doesn't smell how it looks like or the ad. No rainforest, it has vanilla so it isn't that cold. I like how synthetic it is. The mentholated smell might be too much for some. Amberwood too.

Even though I would expect something more shocking from Mugler it is still better than 90 percent of designer fragrances. Has that Mugler vibe.

This and Eau Sensuelle seem so similar but I would have to test again. And it is better than current formulation of some Muglers. Very long lasting.

Kowhai

This had become my new signature fragrance. I love how unique this perfume smells and my husband seems to like it which is great because it is very strong and long lasting. Aura Sensuelle is also great!

juyeonzin

Mega gostoso mas não fixou nada na minha pele e nem projetou.

Bibi16

Smells nothing like it used to!! It used to last days on clothes and 24hrs even after a shower 😍, a beast! Bought one 2weeks ago: Pure water with a drop of aura in it! Vanished within 30min I cried, the smell is so weak now, so so weak! This used to be my absolute fav frag ever. If you had this before Mugler died, you would know it’s now a shadow of what it used to be! Returned my bottle to the shop right away! The new formulation is just terrible!

L777

Good for daytime or night! This scent is very strong and good with 2 spritz max. Always smells beautiful in the winter transition to spring. Good for day and night

Lobsel Vith

Smells like a retrofuturistic vision of artificial trees. Jetsons age houseplants. This forest is factory-made and of shining plastic. Man's awe-inspiring hubris. I love it; I want to get lost in the woods and find a transhuman fairy.

[email protected]

I love this! It's Alien twin sister that lives in the forest and only comes out in the spring. Or a femme Fatale badass Herbalist that lives in the forest. This is what imagine they would smell like. I wear it through out the year but I love it more early fall. It's smells so good. It's a feel good type of perfume for me.

MissAttitude

This one was a blind buy for me and I was a bit nervous because I've seen some crazy reviews before like Aura being a stinky swamp smell or rotten grass and leaves. However, I started to like controversial frags so of course I'm going to try Mugler's creations. So I quickly sprayed twice on my wrist and waited for the magic to happen. It's not medicinal on me, which is interesting because when I take a sniff from the bottle, I can smell the medicinal scent. Really green, fresh, not too sweet. Interesting perfume and strong. I immediately noticed the vanilla and it's so well blended with the green notes. I couldn't imagine how could a bunch of green work with vanilla but here we are. On my skin it's pure balance. The more time passes the more I like it. Plus I get some awesome slytherin vibes from it. The bottle and the smell tells me I am a badass slytherin witch. I'm going to wear it at least three times before I judge its performance. In my opinion it's a year round perfume, but I can imagine wearing it for mid-warm weather like spring, early summer, summer nights and early fall.

justcheckinout

I wore and reviewed this back in 2021, but after using the Aura shower milk for months, I just came to realize that it is ambroxan that brought Aura its animalic character! Wolfwood it's just an imaginary note that ambroxan is part of, which is disguised as "amberwood" in the note list. If you have Not a Perfume Superdose or Another 13 next to Aura EDP, you can note the presence of ambroxan.

3/2/2023 PS: Wow didn't expect so many people are revisiting Aura... I'll post the translation of a more recent review that I wrote in another language, which I never updated on this site.

TL, DR: Eating a fruit cake made of green whipped cream (made from the Thai green ointment) and sugar-coated dried fruits in a tropical rainforest.

Personally I prefer Angel to Aura, but I really appreciate the pioneering concept of Aura. Angel and Aura are completely different fragrances, but they are still in the same vein of futuristic inedible gourmands of their eras (they were also released 25 years apart by Mugler). Although full of notes of over-ripened fruits, caramel, and honey, Angel gives an inedible feel in its baby-blue liquid, and the overdose of patchouli and peppery spices. As for Aura, it has green and ambroxan (wolfwood) notes that paint the picture of a lively tropical rainforest that makes the vanilla cake inedible.

Aura opens with a tart rhubarb, but as the orange blossom dominates the scene quickly, the top notes leans more sweet than sour for me. Vanilla and orange blossom notes make up the foundation of a sponge cake. The green notes have two facets, one that brings the medicinal touch reminiscent of Thai green ointment, and the other brings the humid, mossy touch of tropical rainforest. Although the animalic wolfwood doesn't have a strong presence, it contributes to the livelihood of tropical rainforest. Both the vanilla and green notes are present throughout the run of Aura. Aura has medium to strong sillage, and longevity is about 8 hours.

When I first Purchased this I absolutely wasn’t vibing with it. However over time I have grown to love this fragrance. Like every Mugler perfume, this one is polarizing and you will either love it or hate it. The green took awhile to get used to but the dry down is very smooth.

Gyps

Love this. Really gorgeous scent that’s different to anything I’ve had before. I just love Mugler fragrances, they are so different and I have no trouble at all smelling them on myself. Absolutely divine 😍

TwistedWhiskers

I can definitely understand why this perfume is often suggested as one that the character Poison Ivy might wear. This scent just -screams- a vibrantly green toxicity, and could just as easily share a name with the aforementioned femme fatale. Aura conjures up a poisonous garden or forest where you must be careful of what you touch or inhale, and where you must watch every step lest venomous serpents strike. The opening is too much for me. It smells both intensely green and intensely synthetic; a saccharine-sweet, fake-herbal scent very reminiscent of Prell shampoo, but with an unpleasantly bitter and medicinal odor like cough syrup underneath. I can only guess that's the rhubarb leaf, but I find it disgusting and vaguely unsettling. After about 2 and a half hours, though, the experience gets better. The cough syrup goes away, the intensely sweet and fake herbal scent softens and becomes reasonable- reminding me at this stage of Emeraude by Coty- and the woods come out and seize their moment to shine. I don't really get any recognizable vanilla from this, and definitely nothing resembling mint or menthol- like so many people seem to get- despite the bottle looking something like a mint leaf. In the deep drydown the herbal-green notes fade, and at this point Aura actually reminds me very much of Alien's drydown, and I like it quite a bit! Essentially, the more it wears off, the more I like it, but it takes far too long for me to really enjoy it; I don't expect to ever find it full bottle worthy. It's another "Very interesting!" from me, though. I do feel I have to address the brand's descriptions- on their website and sample card- of Aura as embodying "the meeting of the plant world and the animal world by fusing botanical/floral freshness and feline sensuality". Um, no. Nothing about this scent suggests anything feline to me. Snakes and serpents and vipers, oh my! But there's nothing warm and fuzzy or friendly about this fragrance at all. It's a strange and fascinating scent that definitely makes a loud and bold statement, and despite not fully enjoying it, I still think I could occasionally wear it as part of a cosplay or for Halloween. I don't regret trying it!

UPDATE: 10/18/23: I'm trying on Aura again, and I'm liking it quite a bit more this time! It's still not a fragrance I'd ever buy a bottle of, but the opening wasn't disgusting or unsettling to me today- the cough syrup vibe seems much tamer (though definitely still there). This is another sample I think I'll enjoy finishing up during this Halloween month!

tuqqqqqd

if will cotton pivoted from painting clouds to painting meadows this is what i imagine the grass would smell like. the kind of saccharine bastardization of natural smells you would usually find in skincare products marketed to teens... kinda love it!

valevaleria

This is a unique fragrance and that is wonderful. It is green from the outside to the content. Lasts hours on me. I find it pretty medicinal but in a good way. I usually go for lighter scents, but I am really enjoying this one. Though is not listed above, I would say I smell mint...

DarlingLovely

Sweet, green, vanillic, and utterly intoxicating.

Jboogie81

I've loved aura for a couple years now and when I wear it I overspray it, no shame. I've never gotten a compliment wearing it, I'm not sure if it's due to it just being too unique for most noses or if it has a weak projection. Either way no compliments isn't an issue for me with how affordable it is and how it doesn't smell like anything else in my collection. With the initial spray it's heavy on mint/ vanilla and green notes. During the drydown it transforms to a sweet & dense vanilla. It last for days on my clothes, it's a 10/10 to me and I love the fact that it's not popular, no worries for everyone having it.

Korra13

I was skeptical when I tried this fragrance, and I had put off trying it for a long time(which I now regret) but I was hooked on it from the first wear. I am not generally a lover of green fragrances, but this is beautiful. The rhubarb is intoxicating. The vanilla is beautiful - it’s great to have a vanilla that isn’t gourmand, although I do love gourmands. Everything in this fragrance is so well rounded and beautifully blended that it is addictive. it has the boldness and beauty that all Mugler fragrances have. I feel like this is an easy to wear scent, even though I’ve seen the opposite said about it.

Lainu

I love this perfume. I am a huge fan of Mugler perfumes and have owned most of them. Alien was my signiture scent through my 30's. And I will always own a bottle.
These are not girly, pretty scents. These scents scream look at me and are not for the faint hearted. You need some guts to wear these. They can be difficult to wear for some and polarising.
Protection and silage are enormous. 2 sprays will do it, more if you want to make a statement.
I find Aura gets the balance right between sweet and tart. It opens quite minty, sweet and unusual. You will not find a comparison to any other perfume this one is unique. The drydown is delicious and warm vanilla and I can still smell it the next day. It makes me feel powerful, the scent itself is powerful.
My husband loves this on me and this perfume was his choice in the store. I get compliments everytime I wear it
Mugler is a true artist.

kylexora

The first time I smell it, I'm blasted. The projection is huge, sticky sweet, intense and very long lasting. Aura has same quality and strong, bold character of Angel. So I bought myself a bottle and after few times of wearing it, the drydown of Aura remind of some other perfume but I can't find the dupe. Lately I wore other perfume from my collection and I realize the similarities. Not a dupe, but more like lighter and watered down version of Aura. Less sticky sweet, less projection, more fresh and more towards younger generation. Don't trust me? Try wear Avon Butterfly and compare it for yourself.

stinkyfrog

my god mugler has done it again.... why is this perfume so damn addictive ???

i was seriously expecting to hate this, even as a mugler stan. this one seems extra controversial. on paper, aura truly doesn't look like something i would normally go for (not much of a green fragrance enjoyer) but omfg. OMFG was i wrong

this has got to be one of the most difficult fragrances to describe.... like i don't think my words will be able to do it justice. on initial application this is def a bit medicinal as others have said, but not in a bad way, kind of in a sexy way ?? if cough syrup was in costume as a peach bellini perhaps ??? and then it dries down to literally bubblegum. bubblegum with the smallest hint of sharpness from the rhubarb leaf i assume. it's so deliciously sweet but also really fresh, and also feminine (vanilla, pear) but also masculine (coumarin, amberwood?) all at the same time. it's very hard for me to make out individual notes but that's what i'd guess is making it smell this way. i am perplexed yet delighted

aura is an absolute standalone legend for me. so so special. i have never smelled anything like this EVER and i cannot get enough.... the way i immediately ran back to ebay to get a full bottle after sampling lol 🏃🏻 so sad that mugler disco'd this bc it would've went down in history.

definitely recommend trying this on yourself before buying, bc it seems to smell different on everyone! (was a bit more masculine-leaning/"green" on my partner). there are some adorable mini splash bottles out there; i implore you to give it a try before it disappears forever. you might be surprised by how much you like it :)

tilapia_johnson

Thick green-vanilla. The greenest, actually. Minty, creamy, medicinal, sweet. Maybe not the easiest to wear but what Mugler is? The bottle is amazing, and really would have stood on its own in the permanent collection.

midnightmango

Sweet, medicinal, and green. It smells like some kind of natural cough syrup you’d get at a health food store. Not my thing.

Projection: 3.5/5
Longevity: 3.5/5
Leans feminine

Sarahlm

Reading reviews I see that I'm going to be a pretty basic b!
It's not sickly sweet. To me it's mildly sweet (I actually wish it was more sweet) it smells like herbs and medicine with a punch of what smells like fennel (licorice). I'm not a big fan of it. In smaller doses I guess I wouldn't mind but it's a bit much for me.

Autumn_Moon

I encountered this fragrance at a local Ulta (years ago, when it was first released) while shopping for makeup. Sadly, Ulta does not provide free samples or decants (the way Sephora *used* to, back in the day), so... my only recourse was to spritz my wrists generously with the sample bottle on my way out the door, and allow things to unfold. Fortunately, I was prepared -- since I knew I was going to Ulta that day, I hadn't worn any fragrance... all the better to try something new, right? Random fragrance, here I come!

I spied Aura, with its drop-dead gorgeous, emerald-colored bottle. (Normally, bottles don't matter to me, but this one drew my attention -- you don't see many dark green bottles with the appearance of faceted jewels in mainstream perfume shops.) Unique, stylish, and enchanting. I had no idea what the notes were (the display offered no clues, and no one was available to educate me... I didn't feel right pulling a sales associate away from a sale-in-progress just to answer my questions about a perfume I was merely planning to sample that day.) Could this Mugler be "the one" that I could fall for?

Errrr... no. (Allow me to state that I mean *no* offense whatsoever if you love this and are able to wear it... what follows is a description of my experience and mine alone. Obviously, this juice is still on the market because it *does* sell, and there are a significant number of people out there who smell amazing while wearing it. Unfortunately for me... I'm not one of them. Oh, boy, am I *ever* not one of them.)

By the time I walked from the store to my car... I was already beginning to realize the consequences of my little blind-spray experiment. Perhaps I should have drawn some conclusions about the juice from the color of the bottle. (I try not to judge a book by its cover, but maybe I should have suspected that the color green might signify something in this case.) What I experienced was... mentholated, to say the least.

More specifically, I noticed that I suddenly smelled like a cross between Vicks Vap-O-Rub (a scent from childhood that I detest) and Halls Cough Drops.

It was winter. It was freezing cold outside with a bitter wind chill factor -- the kind of weather that makes people who have power windows in their cars think twice about rolling them down, because there's a good chance they might not roll back up again. And it was snowing ever-so-lightly-but-steadily. This meant that I needed to blast the heat in the car in order to be comfortable. And there was *no way* I could risk opening the windows. Because of the snow and the iffy road conditions, it took longer than usual for me to safely make my way home. Twice as long as usual, in fact... it was a very... long... drive... home.

And Aura began to project. And project. And... project!!! It filled my nostrils. It filled the car. Given half a chance, I suspect it might have attempted to conquer the world. (So, if this works on you, congratulations -- longevity and sillage are impeccable.)

Vanilla? Not on my skin. Woods? Nowhere to be found. Sigh. My search for a compatible Mugler continues...

straightedgepeace

Where are my fellow Canadian’s at?
Ready for some nostalgia?

First spray, this straight up smelt like Banana flavoured liquid Penicillin lol I couldn’t see past that once it was in my head .

Mugler , is one of my favourite fragrance designers. This was a hard no though.

This perfume has been on my shelf untouched for a while. When I first bought it, I really loved the scent. After using it so many times, I got kind of tired of it. To me, Aura is very sweet (and I’m usually not really into sweet smells). I gotta say, just like so many other Mugler perfumes, the performance is amazing. It lasts sooo long! I’d say if you love sweet perfumes, try a spray of this.

un_bellecherie

Deep in the forbidden zone of the Black Forest, there lives an enchanted human like species. The princess wears Aura. Her name is Aura. Aura doesn’t apply the fragrance. She is the fragrance. She often visits Berlin with her handsome enchanted paramour. If you happen to be in Berlin and smell Aura, pay attention. You may catch a glimpse of this enchantress. She’s so quick - almost invisible. If she is seen great luck it’ll bring. Perhaps this is why it’s the color green. The color of magic, enchantment, life. Aura is immortal. She was here when our world began. She keeps our world turning as it gravitates towards the loveliest melody of fragrances. Fragrance rules the world quietly.

Finka227

I have a love-hate relationship with this one,
Some days I’m in love other days I ask myself what was I thinking when I (well blind bought it anyway). It’s very unique though, that’s what I like about Mugler. Nothing smells quite as unique as this from what I’ve tried so far, for the most part I love it but I have to be in a particular mood for it. I wouldn’t just pull it out randomly and wear it, I have to want it enough, crave for it in a sense, call for it and have it’s permission to wear, I know sounds dramatic, but if you have this one I promise you will relate. It’s greeny and some days I can pick up the vanilla more in it, a very rainy day or wintery night type of smell. With your large coat. Or just at home chilling by the fire place. It’s very outdoorsy, and again a picky perfume. Specific. I don’t regret it. Long lasting as well .

CeeTee

This is a scent you can dislike, but admire for its rebel yell. It eschews the mass-appealing designer template, with its quirky, niche personality. It’s a designer house willing to die on a hill for “the principal of the matter.”

The guts it took for a designer house to release this commands enormous respect. It took a while for people to appreciate it. I think many of us lament the fact that we didn’t understand it, until it was gone.

The green nature bucks the idea of unripe, fresh flowers, vegetables, plants and stems. It’s a thick, lightly mentholated, clover-green moss creeping up the trees in a thick cloud forest. This green is paired with an animalic, not tropical, ylang and a white flower I find a bit too sweet. These two floral notes meet a grapey orange blossom to create an accord reminiscent of an overripe banana peel. Chutzpah.

The “wolfwood,” described by Mugler as an “animalic” vegetal substitute for wood, is animalic, peaty and opaque. This is no woody base. Instead, the base is a prominent vanilla. It isn’t quite gourmand, but a little powdery. It reminds me of the vanilla in the first Alien Goddess release, but less boring.

Performance is commendable; this is a great value for the money. A very strong like for the rebel in me.

weegee

Late to the game with this one. having acquired it just this past summer. I'm puzzled that my nose picks up mostly mint. No fruit, no flowers, no amber, just mint and a hint of vanilla. In the heat of summer Aura felt clear, sweet and fresh but unremarkable so it went on the shelf. I applied again today with temps just above freezing and the sweetness blocked the clarity I felt in summer but the fresh mint has given way to a creamy mint. Not Creme de Menthe and cream though, more like Crest Toothpaste. I imagine that's a negative to many but I love medicinal notes in fragrances, particularly those reminiscent of Vicks VapoRub, Icy Hot and Ben Gay ointment, so I'll be happily rocking my Crest all winter long.

beta-ionone

It's so addicting to smell it! At times it smells the way root beer tastes, other times it's a fresh powdery scent, and at the same time it has a camphoraceous menthol scent. In the initial spray it does have a citrus element that stings the nose with the alcohol and a tart sweetness like tart chalky candy (Sweetarts) but it goes away and becomes way softer. It doesn't really smell feminine to me but it does have a sweetness to it so it might not be exactly masculine either. I asked a few coworkers to smell it and one said it smelled like barbershop to her. I guess that kind of confirmed my belief that it seemed more masculine. I spray this on my pillows and some puff balls I had hanging in my car; I can't get enough of the scent! I am disappointed that the scent does not last long and dies down immediately and the sillage is very poor.... Maybe that's a good thing because other people might not like the way it smells. My boyfriend was okay with it it but it wasn't anything that was going to make him swoon. On my skin it dries down to a mild powdery vanilla or marshmallow scent and the root beer scent goes away. On clothes and pillows, the camphor / menthol scent is still there and sometimes smells like a very sugary spearmint chewing gum.....or maybe it smells the way the purple "Violet Flavor" Canel's gum tastes-- or maybe it was Chiclets grape flavor gum I am thinking of. When it really dies down, the scent reminds me of Matrix Biolage's "Blue Agave" Smoothing Shine Milk, but the milk has a tiny hint of coconut. Biolage has good smelling shampoos and conditioners; they have soothing scents. Their products don't have the camphor / menthol scent so if you want to experience the soothing green scent with the creamy vanilla, try Matrix Biolage's hair products.

Definitely not a blind buy and if you hate the scent of anything like eucalyptus, menthol, Vick's VapoRub, cough drops / lozenges, Bengay, or Tiger Balm-- you will definitely abhor this lol.

I have a feeling it's going to be discontinued so I better stock up.

forestpisces

It's basically a wearable more feminine version of a basket of strong herbs. I smelt it and I got surprised because it's not what I expected a perfume to smell like but it's the perfect intesity, just enough spice to not be choking.

projectalice345

Kind of disappointed in this one I love Angel so much I thought I'd give it a try but it seems to fall short of making a impact the way some of Muglers scents do. Not a bad smell but lacking the depth of hoped for.

zohaf17

actually the rankest thing ive ever smelled, i ran to the jojoba oil to get this off 😭 it's so sickening, i have a feeling the jasmine is really indolic

ayla77

I agree a lot with the review of Kcxbutterfly. This fragrance is very empowering. This fragrance belongs to a woman that knows exactly what she wants. I absolutely love this one. It’s sweet, in a nice way because once the vanilla kicks in it becomes real smooth and creamy. I definitely wouldn’t blind buy this, because it’s a fragrance of acquired taste. Not everyone is going to appreciate Aura. I will wear it as long as they make it. I find it refreshing and wonderful…

Bebelusica

What I imagine Poison Ivy's perfume would be

Kcxbutterfly

This is my boss b*tch fragrance.
I will usually wear this In my male dominated workplace this does this trick to make me feel powerful and unwavering.
How I would to describe it ~ it smells like a jungle but some how sophisticated yet Intimidating.
It’s like decomposing flora from the sun and the rain.
When I was on the mainland for awhile I would spray this perfume on my wrist.
It would bring me back to the memories of me wandering through the rainforest taking in all the vegetation.
Looking at all the plants with water droplets feeling the thick air from the humidity.
There was a sweet smell from all the elements sun, water, flowers merging and Integrating that this perfume truly captures.
If you watch the trailer for the perfume the ad creates a vision of a deep rainforest that this smell truly mirrors in its entirety.
But I feel like this fragrance by Mulger should have been the one called “Alien”
It’s truly strange, no other perfume smells like this.
it’s ground breaking I think in the world of perfume.
Unique,Multidimensional,Lush,
Intimidating

MissKittyki

I’ve had this perfume in my collection since 2018 and although I don’t wear it often I love when I do! It starts off with a cool methanol scent that’s perfect for the cool winter months. After that it transitions into a green forest scent. Finally it hits the smooth and kind of spicy vanilla in the dry down. This perfume is an experience everytime I wear it. It’s bold unique and mysterious

bigstinky

Putting on my sample of this today and I don't know...first spray has a wintergreen "sickliness" in the top notes that completely accurately reflects the marketing themes, which is common for Mugler. These perfumes look how they smell which is one reason they're so satisfying to use, there's nothing abstract about them, they're very Cronenbergian if you'll excuse the expression: you see the monster, you smell the monster, there's nothing coy or shrouded or suggestive, it's all text and very little subtext, Which is not a criticism at all, I love that approach.

I can't even vote for "wintergreen" as a note which is silly, every type of mint is different.

I think I hate Aura specifically because I truly hate wintergreen as a flavor, color and scent. It's a kelly green Pepto bismol spill in the Body Fantasies display at Rite Aid. This is probably one for the move-along pile.

Bebeck

The jury is still out on this fragrance for me.
The bottle is obviously beautiful and I bought a big one. 😬
The initial spray is a medicinal atringent burst with a slight freshness from the pear and bergamot that together smells like green apple.
Then the dry down... It's headachey, and green. The green I get is pine which is unfortunate because I am really not a pine lover. My grandad used to wear Coty - Aspen and this reminds me so much of him and their house. Which isn't a bad memory, but I much preferred his old spice
I find this rather masculine.
The wood mixes with the green notes but that sharp astringent note is still present. Instant headache.
An hour or two later, the vanilla, wood and coumarin notes begin to shine, which I much prefer. Making it much more wearable, warmer and enjoyable. I like to spray on skin and clothes to see how it performs. The sharpness and pine lives a lot longer on clothes.
On skin, I enjoy the base.
Unfortunately though my brain is still grappling with the pine note.
This is a strong fragrance. It projects.
If I could skip the top notes and go straight to the base I would as I don't mind faint green notes.
I don't know. I will give it a few wears and see if it grows on me. It is an interesting fragrance and I really wanted to love it but it's not an instant love for me.

Twilightrose

It's nice after the initial skanky blast of Ylang Ylang fades off, that is a note that always makes me gag in perfumes. Cannot bury my nose into the scent until about an hour in but then it's a creamy green floral and vanilla and I love that part. Strong silage, lasts long. Wish Ylang Ylang wasn't disgusting so I'd enjoy the whole ride.

kittywhiskers

What an original scent! I've never smelled any other perfume like it before, it's so intriguing. Definitely understand how some people have called it medicinal, or compared it to a dentist's office, and I agree, but something about Aura keeps me interested. It's minty as in spearmint gum and fresh as in freshly cut, morning dew grass in spring. Notes of rhubarb leaf say hello here and there. Drydown stays minty with notes of vanilla and sandalwood. The bottle is gorgeous, probably the nicest and most original looking one in my collection. Mugler's fragrances will forever be my faves, so complex and gorgeous, and not for the faint of heart!

zohaf17

this is literally the worst thing ive ever smelled LOL i was sprinting for some jojoba oil to get this shit off my wrists

Cadera97

Good Lord this is sweet. I like it because it's not gourmand in a coffee/toffee/praline or fruit salad way. Yet, a little goes a long way I was expecting more green and wooden notes, but I love it.

iluvsmells

don’t get me wrong - on paper, i love how this smells. but it’s almost TOO MUCH. too green, too rich, deep, fruity and beastly, so much so that it actually gives me a headache. and i’m so sad about it. that shade of emerald on the bottle is exactly how this perfume smells. it’s ambrosia salad (the kind with green food coloring) in a vintage crystal bowl covered in dew drops, sitting on a tree stump in a forest surrounded by sexy fairies, and it’s f***ing tasty, but if you’re on the sensitive side i’d proceed with caution.

AnaMariaCos

Beautiful fruity scent and so LONG LASTING.
It's beautiful for spring and summer. It's green but not mossy, fruity and sweet but not nausea inducing sweet and the lasting power it's huge, i still smell it after 8 hours. 100% signature scent worthy.

CherylTomaatje

I really, REALLY want to love this (if only for the bottle!) but that *#€&@* bergamot ruins it all for me, once again😭. The opening is so nauseating to me that it completely ruins the experience for me. I like the dry down, but that is not enough for me to validate the cost of this beauty. Even the middle notes are too light and dissapiate quickly on my skin...

I want to cry over this perfume, because every time I look at it I imagine it smells divine and light. As if I am walking through a wet forest, sipping a cold tea❤️ Instead my tears are for me feeling like I am snorting the most sour bergamot juice through my nose.🤦♀️

This bottle will remain a paper weight in this House because I adore it, but I think the Aura Sensuelle scent is FAR superior to this.

💚i was expecting a fairy jungle or forest🌲🌿with a sweetness based of reviews,i was on the hunt for a minty sweet style perfume&unique, nope not this. I even almost blind bought due to the bottle&description of this, glad i got a sample!¡! Basically i tested days before this review&im going to be honest, when i first sprayed i kind of liked it was loud&smelled of purple 🍇 candy mixed with decadance -mj,then it turned onto a weird rootbeer&spicy&a hint of mint&then plain perfume note only, like no character,as in a (aura)of all crowds of people mixed together,it smells like if you mixed a crowd of peoples perfumes/colonges&there were all chewing a nasty gum&soda! Loud first few hours&then turns into a lifeless spice manly, just a perfume perfumey mix of everyones colonges&perfumes? Gross my opinion,i hated that perfumey note my whole life,it reminds me of how perfume smells from my aunt or moms purse where it only smells of perfume, with no notes like a mess&i do not like perfume that smells like a perfume note with no beauty or unique scent,AURAs right of all peoples AURA& perfume/colonge gum& nasty soda,im really shocked! If you ever smelled someone with nasty perfume drinking a soda from quick trip circle k&,chewing gum thats this also, not rootbeer which i like ,not vanilla not green:( idea of this mess! The rootbeer smell turns into a nasty diet coke lol If you took the nasty bo note out of alien-tm& added spearment gum& nasty diet soda, thats this in a nutshell¡ I love good&bad reviews myself, infact ive bought really good perfume based of bad reviews.

Green aromatic vanilla. A must try and FB worthy always in my collection. Its rare now a days to find a gem like this which is unique and long lasting in designer perfumes but Mugler has always been an exception.

I have Angel, Alien and Aura. I truly love them all.

Ceraox

This smells exactly like the original Rockstar energy from years ago. Skin scent never fades, sillage goes from strong to moderate after about 4 hours.

Miss Kittens

Not gonna lie bought it cause the bottle is gorgeous and it's a beast mode frag. So the opening is a menthanol bubble gum flavored playdough. Next, the green forest surrounds you softened by the pear. Lastly it settles on the woody bourbon vanilla note with the menthanol note still peeking through. This is a super sweet scent dare i say in the gourmand category? It does have a medicinal root beer vibe to it so I can see how it could be off-putting to some people. I love this perfume because I definitely don't have anything else like this in my collection it's a complex multi-faceted gem. This is a trail scent left by an evasive jungle fairy 🧚.... mysterious... naughty...enchanted. I don't know why I didn't try this sooner, although by no means is this a blind buy safe.

I thought I could learn to love this as the bottle is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. I’ve tried wearing it for the 3rd or 4th time today (I try every fall) and I just 👏🏼 can’t 👏🏼 do 👏🏼 it 👏🏼.
I generally like green scents but the sheer amount of Wintergreen (the kind you’ll find in chewing gum and massage oil) here is just absolutely ridiculous. Why oh why did they have to go so overboard with it?
I’ll never understand it.
Today, I’m laying this “learning to love it” project to rest. God knows I tried.

taylorcake1

The bottle speaks volumes for the fragrance, forest princess vibes 💚

If you love herbal smells, like a sultry forest fairy, Aura is for you. Aura gives spring, fresh, unique, edgy, and green.

This was a risky blind buy for me. I’m a gourmand lover. She was too medicinal for my taste, but still stunning.

I love that Mugler hits all of our favorite fragrance flavors, I live on the sweet side. My favorite Mugler is Angel Muse, very sweet 🍫

I suggest trying a sample and see how you feel before you buy a full bottle.

I gifted my full bottle to my friend who loves scents like this.
Even though it wasn’t for me, Aura is a work of art that everyone should interpret.

Perfume is art 🖼️

kookaburra1000

An introverts escape from a ballroom masquerade; through the woods she runs with a vanilla bean tucked behind her ear, activating the green viriditas of fresh spring floor below with her kitten heels. Her pockets are filled to the brim with rhubarb which she stole off a luxurious platter…

aflakes

Omg I really love this. I was nervous because so many people said this fragrance was unusual and some of the descriptions made me feel like I would hate it, but that's why it's so important to try things yourself. The more it dries on my skin, the more I love it. It does have a bit of a minty vibe but it's in the best way.

SuciYatt

Another rare gem, the latest addition to my Mugler collections. Smells uniquely woody, earthy, florally and powdery different from other gourmand genre from Mugler that I own like Angle Muse, Angle edp OG and Alien. Love the emerald green bottle, so luxurious and unique. Sillage is loud while Projection and Longevity are moderate on me. The unique scent is a like to me not yet a love.

trouveparfums

Wow I have such a love hate relationship with this fragrance. In the spring I got this with the fragrance pen and I thought it was lovely. I wasn't wowed. I gave away the juice.

I decided to give it a shot.

It's a chilly rainy night and I can't deny I smell exotic and delicious. The fragrance pen did not let me down. I am now reconsidering letting go of the beautiful green goddess elixir that I thought smelled horribly in the high heat.

Jemxo1

Got a sample of this today and it’s somewhere between parma violets and deep heat. Weird but strangely quite nice.

cynthiad623

Nice strong winter fragrance!

Tpno

I find this perfume to be divine. On me it smells like cold parma violet sweets, with a vanilla and juicy dry down. It would be my signature scent, but sadly it does not last on me at all and just lingers as a skin scent past the first few minutes after spraying.

AllyMage

This was the perfume that got me really interested in collecting. And nothing has come close to as unique and beautiful. I loooooove this. I have the EDP, EDT, and the Sensulle version. This will probably be my go to for the rest of my life.

juliausa

This is signature worthy fragrance. Opens with somewhat sharp rhubarb scent that settles down fast and blends perfectly with bergamot, ylang-ylang and soft pear. Green notes are shining through the very pleasant smooth sweetness, creating somewhat magical combination.

Aura is unique, beautiful, captivating: green and warm, fresh and sweet at the same time. Performance is outstanding, and people will most definitely notice you are wearing something intriguing.

I enjoy Aura so much, I got shower milk, lotion and cream in the biggest sizes I could get my hands on, so I can enjoy this addictive scent all day long :)
It is shame this fragrance is discontinued, I will miss it horribly when I run out of my (significant) stash.

ArlissLux

aura was a great blind buy in my opinion :)

vanilla, spicy, woody, green.
introverted, weird, mysterious.
i like it.

as a person who enjoys fall, i think this is the perfect fragrance for cool months.
becareful not to over spray... it IS sharp so a little goes a long way.

can we also talk about the flanker? it's STUNNING. and lately i've been gravitating towards the color green!

overall 4.5/5 rating and i would definitely purchase again.

saintkoshka

what a curious scent. upon first spray, it gives off minty, slightly citrusy notes. then it just shoves you to this wonderful vanillic bourbon journey that still has that mintiness. the woody notes aren't that prominent for me, but it really smells like a slightly damp grassland. this has such a strange similarity with marc jacob's decadence for me, but maybe that's just my nose. i love the bottle too, literally gives you an idea already of what it'll mainly smell like. a solid 8.5/10 for me. pretty sure this is not gonna please everyone though.

SusanTheTeach

Straight up Crest toothpaste from the 80s mixed with sweet vanilla. That's pretty much it. Passing on this one....

Edit: Okay, it took 2 hours to wear off the nauseating smell described above, then it finally turned pleasant. Now it smells like a Shamrock shake from McDonald's mixed with sweet vanilla. Would I buy this? Probably not. It took forever for it to morph into something nice. Unless you have a 2 hour commute or you are going to get ready for a night out 2 hours in advance and then sit around and wait, it would be impossible to actually wear this anywhere.

banjerine

A green and fleeting breath of wet, neon bergamot as a wicked little faerie flits by, leaving lingering wisps of crushed leaves and drunken vanilla floating after her.

miss_aly

I've always been in love with the bottle, but wanted to actually make sure that I enjoy the fragrance before blind-buying. I found a mini bottle online, and upon initial blotting you definitely smell a menthol-ish/spicy smell. But as it dries down, I can start to smell the vanilla, florals, and woods. I definitely enjoy the dry-down more than the beginning! Still on the fence to whether I'll get a full-sized bottle or not. I wish I had a sprayer instead of a blotter type. That way I could see how it performs on my clothes as well!

Imyourheiress

Definitely not for everyone. It is green yet sweet, spicy yet musky. surprisingly powdery in the dry down and very addictive.found my new signature scent! It invokes sensuality and uniqueness! Inlove with it!

Alciia

This perfume makes me feel like boss b. And I’m Not sure why :D longevity is great on clothes over 24hrs!
And the smell it’s clean, interesting, different in a good way, stays around, I can smell it but it’s not offensively in my nose! Very good blind buy for me :)

villiruusut

Aura doesn't appear to be stocked where I live, so I've ordered a decant online. The decant is a little leaky so I've managed to catch whiffs of it from the package and already from that, I have to say that I've never smelt anything so suited for my country's local flora and fauna. I live in a country that's perpetually hot and humid and is very built up, but we still have parts of our natural rainforests preserved and this smells like a very glamourised olfactory imagination of that. I know this sounds like a bunch of romanticised crap but if you could make the sticky, muggy, swampy, sweaty experience of camping in a rainforest lush and sexy, this is it. I can't really discern specific notes with this one beyond its vanillic base note, but colour me deeply intrigued!

I might get a different experience on skin so I'll probably update this review once I've done so.

Edit:
So, I've sprayed it on today and a little definitely goes a long way. It is a very sweet perfume so overdoing it can be quite ghastly for others around you. As for the medicinal note that people have been pointing out, it smells a bit like a Chinese licorice root (often used in TCM) but I could just be imagining that...

It's a very bright and cheerful perfume, in my opinion. I'm not usually a fan but someone with a caramel-esque perfume was standing close to me on the commute to work and I thought the warmth of burnt caramel would make a great addition to the Aura if the wearer wants to go in a more gourmand direction. There's a faint smell of wet grass, but nothing disgusting. I see how the heat and humidity really helps the fragrance to shine!

The jasmine scent is pretty strong in the drydown. Normally, I'm not a fan of jasmine notes but this is nowhere as cloying as how I find most white floral perfumes. I think the vanilla bourbon and sandalwood notes helps to balance out the headiness of the jasmine scent, giving it a more woodsy and earthy feel.

tomato18

Spicy grass and cough syrup.

It’s actually quite nice.

perfumelovere

Vanilla mint toothpaste is all I get. I was hoping from the green bottle it was going to be an amber gourmand green floral type of scent. I like mint all around but not necessarily in perfume. Alien and Angel will forever be groundbreaking.

nirvana6

After years of wanting this perfume my husband and sons gave it to me as a present today! I am so happy. It's beautiful, enigmatic and diferent. It's green and sweet at the sametime. Not too strong to my nose, and I don't feel any minty smell at all. I think it fits day and night, and also all seasons. If you are a Mugler fan, as I am, I think you will like this daring scent

lupereira

Well, this scent is very distinct. Not for anyone. There is someting magic, witch and dark, at the same time is lightfull, green an mysterious. I feel like a sorceress, or magical being in the woods. Sure a singular experience.

Ambrocia scents

I came back just to say again. How much I love this scent. I hated it at first but I kept trying it. Gives green candy, that bourbon vanilla in the dry down is addictive. Just lovely and daring. It gives me courage to try womanity or am I going too far lol

HoneyRum

I put this on again today after not wearing it since the beginning of the year and MAN I forgot how much I love this perfume. It’s weird but In the best way for people who vibe with it. I’ve been trying to downsize my collection but I’ll always want to have this one, one of the few bottles I would actually buy a backup for if it were to be discontinued.
Starts off green and almost minty/menthol and dries down to a green/vanilla scent that comes off as very clean on me. I’ve gotten a fair amount of compliments on this one so I think it’s more challenging for the person wearing it than it is for those around them. Super strong performance, don’t overspray.

* Please check Aura EDP + EDT new for swap on my profile *
Doesn't work for the hot dry weather I live in... I imagine that if it was a little colder, a little more humid.... it could be a delicious green forest.

stinky

Air-freshener strength scent that absolutely reeks and not in a good way.

takesahint

Sadly, I've learned the hard way that green accords don't work too well with my skin chemistry. They've only turned into a sickly almost medicinal smell. I was pretty excited for this because I've had really good experiences with Mugler fragrances. On my skin it was nauseatingly sweet and earthy, kind of similar to if you dropped a popsicle in dirt. I could smell none of the bourbon vanilla or much of anything aside from the pear (I think?), rhubarb, green notes (which manifested as minty wet grass clippings), and something akin to fertilizer. I tried to wear it multiple times to hopefully allow it to grow on me like I'd done with Angel and Angel Nova. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be :( I ended up gifting the bottle I'd bought (on a heavy discount luckily) to a friend who loved it. The longevity and projection is amazing though, so that's a positive :)

wyrdsystyr

As a big fan of the, admittedly, rather over done Alien, I was excited to try Aura, after seeing it listed in an article for "summer goth" fragrances. However, it's just one I really can't get on board with. The indolic notes of Aura sadly have neither the gothic austerity of decay, nor the animalic lust with which I tend to associate them. Rather, there is an inescapable accord of over-ripe banana peel that dominates my skin in a most unpleasant way. "Swamp" perfume I can appreciate; "trash-heap," I struggle.

MaxieF

After I lost my brother I went into a deep depression for a few months. I had some old coffee cups in my bedroom that had gotten moldy. The second I sprayed this....it shot me back 7 years to that moment cleaning out the moldy coffee cups. I know it's TMI but honestly. I tried the EDT and though it wasn't for me, it didn't smell like mold. This. This smells like mold.

The EDT was very similar but it was too sour and smelled like BO.

Sorry to offend anyone. I really wanted to like this. If it didn't have that dusty mold smell it would just smell like the EDT so if you're considering which one to choose and you don't mind a bit of something sour, I'd go with the EDT. Neither the EDT or the EDP smell like vanilla like some reviewers have said. Not a hint IMO.

Someone mentioned pepto bismol below... and I'd say yes, if you emptied out 99% and let it sit and get stale in a humid cabinet for a couple of years, and then added something green..I could see the resemblance.

DariaFrancesca74

Thierry Mugler's fragrances always evoke gourmand sweetness, the continuous almost childish reference to the delicacies of creation. In addition to putting the sense of smell into play, he also works on taste and sight for the spectacular nature of his sculpture bottles. Aura is a multi-faceted emerald green heart full of tasty citrus and sweet fruits, served on a green lawn with humid and musky scents, surrounded by slight similarities of white jasmine flowers, just hinted Iris, all candidly enclosed by an appetizing and reassuring vanilla of Tahiti. Fruity and amber sillage. Pleasant duration.

Catmo

This is a very odd fragrance. It reminds me a bit of pepto bismal. It has the bubblegum scent that pepto has. Not quite as strong though. I also get the green notes which come off a bit minty. I would also assume that there is some type of tuberose in here but I guess not. It’s sweet but not your typical boring or juvenile sweetness. It’s very interesting and I surprisingly like it.
It’s worth trying if you haven’t yet!
