A classy elegant lady stands at the top of a grand staircase. A long pewter sheath slip dress hugs her body as she makes her way down the steps head held high. She doesnt need to look at where she's going .... she knows. Creamy vanilla, soft amber and a light sprinkle of lavender rounds out this gorgeous gourmand fragrance. Lasts for several hours leaning into a lingering sweet drying down.

akotly

This to me smells like an cold cozy day with a puffer jacket and a scarf so smooth vanilla and amber also get some tonka bean and flower dont know which one but this one last long on me and i have heard that the projection is better then average i love this smell tho one the best vanilla amber scents a must cop for me

Heaintgonnadoit

Im gonna cop this thing rn for about 185 euros, best thing ive ever smelled.

Dareenx12

This to me smells like expensive amber vanilla ice cream, very luxurious and creamy. It is fairly linear, but a scent profile like this does not need much development. For performance this one cannot be underestimated. Longevity is definitely the main attraction (aside from the smell) being easily above 10 hours, and the projection is definitely far from weak. For this price point, it is a bit hard to judge, but for me personally it is definitely worth a shot.

pacorabannefan911

this is the best fragrance by mfk that i've ever smelt. it's incredibly strong and has eternal longevity. a lot of people say they don't like these, but mainly they say that because they don't wait for the dry down. i was one of those people, until i waited for the dry down, and it was a very sweet and ambery vanilla bomb. i do think it is just a little bit expensive, but i am so glad that i purchased this fragrance. 10/10

Stinkyman

received this as a gift and don’t really go for it. Definitely feels more on the masculine side. Gives me the same stomach churning feeling love don’t be shy by killian gives me. It’s still a very sweet scent and I’m sure it would smell lovely on someone else. Might be good to layer with the old cotton ball trick if it makes you feel ill.

Jackw9

Might be the best thing ive ever smelled

Sukipickles

Grand soir gives evening at the opera. There's something so liquored and expansive about it, the gourmand notes tying the amber and florals into a fluid channel. So pricey, but performs at a level that could justify the price. Longish-lasting with decent sillage.

MadameNantes

The vibe: You are wearing a beautiful dress and going to an upscale party with the man you love and feel vulnerable with. You feel sexy, elegant, and you know that you will have a great time.

I tried this perfume 2 years ago and quickly discarded it; it was too masculine and somehow synthetic. I never finished the sample and retried it a few days ago and WOWWW, it was totally different. I could smell the vanilla, the lavender, and a bit of smokiness. Even if the notes are very simple, somehow this perfume seems different, more elegant, more upscale.

The perfume is too expensive for me to buy a full bottle, but I will definitely splurge on some travel bottles or decants to wear during a special night.

EstherR

Remindes me Dior santal noir, same vibe

Mr. Bear

Very smooth and comforting. I gave this to my girl because I would rather smell it on her, but I love it all the same!

bingo001

This is not for people who like an Ariana Grande perfume.

smells like amber cardboard

Arthrax99

If Heaven smelled like anything, it’d smell like grand soir
There aren’t enough words available in the English language to begin the description of this fragrance

Loose Goose

Beautiful and weirdly gourmand sweet scent, the initial blast is generic amber but it dries down into one of the most beautiful scents I've ever smelled. While strong when sniffed directly, it's hard to pick up in the air.
I'm not a fan of overly sweet scents, but this is exceptional.

Clear Skies

Ohhhh, heavenly! just amazing. I feel like a goddess whenever I wear this scent! I was quite surprised in Fragrantica it shows more male, for me it is purely unisex, leaning more feminine. But I have to agree this will be intoxicating on a man as well. This scent is so sensual, rich and at the same time manages to be quite airy. Love it beyond words!

joseftomakin

Heaven on earth. Ethereal, brings you to another dimension. A masterpiece 👌

TheTrackEnthusiast

A true masterpiece in every sense of the word. A timeless olfactory piece of art. Performance is unlike anything i have. The scent is SO rich and deep. The sillage is insane. This is one of those fragrances that you will just pick up and sniff the atomizer. I paid $240 for a 2.4 oz. I should have gotten the bigger 6.7! This is a scent i will cherish for the rest of my life.

100/10 - Like nothing else.

doc_strangelife

Where others would show up, grand soir will arrive. Where others would command attention, grand soir will captivate. Where others would shout, grand soir will announce.

One thing about GS : if you smell it close up, you might not like it as much. To truly experience this, you have to apply it on your neck and catch whiffs of it. In the air it's magical. It's one of the few fragrances which is specially unisex in the sense that it is equally masculine and feminine and not a compromise between the two. It's a rich, luxurious vanilla rather than a sweet, artificial one you get from most other vanilla heavy fragrances. It's linear, but there is nothing inherently wrong with that. If anything it suits the character of this fragrance in the same way you would expect a royal to behave with a unwavering decorum. You only need two or three sprays, but to a degree I think you could spray twenty times and only smell more, not offensive. This one, unlike a lot of others, is truly hyped for a reason. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? If more than two sprays was necessary, I would pick up the big bottle.

Tracery

This is an amazing vanilla fragrance easily wearable on formal occasions or nice winter days it remind me of fresh snow cream in a way its sweet yummy and i need a full bottle.

midget11

this is a literal masterpiece, i honestly cant relate to any of these negative reviews like are we smelling the same thing?? 😭 Its hard to describe but its like a sensual heavy (yet not dense, quite light and airy to the nose) amber-vanilla with some sultriness, like spicy sparkles? it has some intoxicating sweetness- its just enough to accommodate both genders’ skin chemistries perfectly and make it full on unisex. i also get a touch of lemon from it, reminds me alot of nishane ani…it just smells RICH// its very versatile and elevates anything u layer it with perfectly. i wear it on its own sometimes but mostly with pdm carlisle - i try gatekeeping this combo bc its MINE but there it is😂 i have literally have never gotten more compliments from strangers, they can smell it from 10ft away and it lingers in the air extremely well and projects strongly for at least 8 hours

this is super unisex imo, on initial spray it may have a bit of masculine freshness but that fades, and the sweetness makes it very unisex. if ur a girly girl please dont be surprised if this doesnt hit the spot 😂 infact in my xperience this layers incredibly well with loads of feminine perfumes, ones i have tried it with (for eg la belle le parfum, ysl libre intense or delina xclusif) were insanely intoxicating, grand soir gave them the depth and sensuality i didnt know they were missing

its in my signature rotation for life now bc ive worn it about everyday for a year and just cant get sick of it, i currently have a new 70ml and 200ml of it for backup as i literaly get anxiety when im running low 😂 definitely the best from MFK imo, day night summer winter any occasion, it beat every test of time for me

PK_thundr

Wow, I hated this the first two times I sprayed it on myself. The first time it smelled like a church incense. I wore it again the next day, a full spray instead of a tiny spritz and just wow. The opening is ambery vanillic with heavy incense, but as it progresses, I get more ambery lavender. Halfway through the wear I was thinking to myself "where is the lavender smell coming from" without knowing that this fragrance has lavender as an official note.
Highly recommended if your climate allows yourself to wear this often. Mine does not

aaronfr

This fragrance is not what it was hyped up to be, i expected much more from this, smells like old grandpa balls with a hint of vanilla.

raiden725

Honestly i expected so much more. Absolutely not worth the price

coconutbeth

What a rollercoaster.

First impression - Overpowering. Old man smell. Almost threw out and instantly gave me a headache.

Then my husband put it on. On him the vanilla came out and it smelled rich, dark, masculine and inviting. ITS SO GOOD! On days where he opts for one of his other colognes I truly miss it.

Bilal W

grand soir is mid for its price out of all of the fragrances i’ve smelt i’d have thought grand sour would be the best but turns out to smell like u took a bottle of coniac and put a drop of vanilla extract in it if ur a fan of angel share then u will most likely love this fragrance personally i’m not that big of a fan hence why i don’t like this fragrance that much i thought that if u were to wear grand soir u would become a lady magnet like in that one episode of rick and morty and that they would all instantly get naked for u even if u looked like bertram from rdr2 big let down

stetina1

This is really something this "orangeade". A gorgeous night out fragrance. Is it linear? Absolutely! But I love it. It doesn't play any games with you. A case study on amber fragrances. Vanillic amber with hints of herbal-balsamic notes. Less is more. Easy to overspray and ruin a picture of a curteous gentleman or a distinguished lady.

Scent profile - 8/10
Projection - 8/10
Price tag - 7/10

connerb

More labdanum and benzoin sided with a undertone/base of vanilla. This is a very good sweet but not too sweet winter scent. In my opinion its perfectly unisex for the colder months. Only catch with this is that it is linear which is not bad by any means but if you are looking for a complex fragrance this may not be for you.
Overall this provides a rich and warm feel that could cut through cold with ease. Expect 4 hours of arm length projection and 7 hours total on skin. 8.9/10

kerricj

french perfumery at its finest from mfk himself! classic amber profile done wonderfully , backed up with a creamy, balsamic vanilla. strong performance and pleasant scent profile, almost no flaws. the strong point of mfk is that he creates really good-performing fragrances but some of his scents are rather boring or synthetic but not this apparently. the benzoin, vanilla, and labdunum are so damn addicting in this, i will never understand the negative/hate reviews on it, as i find this to be perfect as it is. my favourite scent from mfk and the only one where i wouldn't mind buying a full bottle of. one of the best benzoin-based fragrances out there, a good scent for those exploring niche oriental-amber scents.

overall, 10/10

MrBold

Wonderful fragrance that i have no regret purchase it. It captures “Grand” feeling, i also notice malty vibes from this frag. Good job Mr Francis.. bellissima fragrance.

Mizmonsta

This is a very heavy Amber and vanilla scent, not vanilla and Amber. The Amber is very dense, which is cool in the winter and fights through all the layers you may be wearing, but the vanilla is never truly there and more of trying to come out but never really does. The only way I can even get the vanilla to appear is to layer it with something that has vanilla in the forefront and if I have to do all that to make the scent remotely enjoyable then it’s a no from me. Not a hate, just too thick and dense for my liking.

ScentFromPlanetEarth

Rich, well-performing, luscious vanilla amber. Hard to pull off if you're not trying to get constantly hit on. Go easy on it, it's a beast.

Tudorando

I have no idea how to describ this with words. It is purely magestic. My favourite scent of all time without a doubt.
Smells like a royal family with amber and very “rich” notes

idcbartek

Truly a masterpiece. Easily the coziest scent I've had the chance to try. Performance-wise this is a monster. I get constant whiffs of it, still after 12 hours of applying.

vipariously

What I like about Grand Soir is that after several hours it turns into a vanilla skin-scent.

But in that case, why don't I just use a vanilla fragrance so I can enjoy vanilla from the beginning?

From the beginning to a few hours in, Grand Soir smells "old" (not in a good way). I'm not familiar enough with raw materials to know if that's the labdanum or the benzoin or whatever, but it's a bad smell to me.

Detman101

@cinamonywhiskey123: Good luck, I just did the same thing last week.

(Arrival Day)
Well well well...the orange little bottle has arrived.
[2 sprays to my left forearm]
Whoa...this is...powerful! I have amber fragrances...they're not like this...this is Amber on steroids!
Um....wow...I'm not sure if I like this just yet. I'm getting super strong amber and very little else that I can detect. I'm not sure if this is an amber accord...I think it is...but there is very little vanilla to be found in the mix...maybe it comes in later.
Oof...this is choking me out...eyes watering slightly.
It does smell good...this is just stupid strong...wow!
I'm getting visions of pencil erasers and bone marrow...neither of which I've smelled in ages...somehow this is bringing back visceral memories of both.

Will report back later...this is...too strange...strange too....

27MAR24 (First full wear)
[2 sprays on chest, one behind each ear, one in each inner elbow]

As for the actual wear...This fragrance, when worn full-body by me, doesn't really stand out to me. It starts out slightly citric somehow, or at least that's what I sense. Then I just get a huge deluge of "Amber". It has been pure-amber for the past 3 hours since the short-lived citric note died down after 10 minutes. The Amber note that is so strong in this fragrance reminds me of some kind of oily residue...thick....resinous...sticky...like a really thick lubricant grease for wheel bearings.
(There was a thick, grey, wheel-bearing grease that I used to pack and lube the rear-wheel bearing on my old ratbike when I built it...don't remember the name of it, but I'll always remember that oily greasy thickness and the weird sweet smell that it had)
I think that the "Labdanum" in this fragrance is what is giving it the heavy "Greasy/Oily" feeling. They put waaaaay too much in this frag for me...makes it feel leathery, oily and old-timey.

I'm still not getting any remote hint of "Vanilla" with this...just overpowering "Amber" that leaves a trail a mile long. I feel like I've gone nose-blind to this because I put on about 7 sprays total and I go through periods of not being able to smell this until I hold my breath for a minute and then breathe. Then I'm hit with the slightly-sweet greasy-amber scent....

Well, I DID received the "Seal of Approval" from the wife this morning. As I went to hug her goodbye she said "Ooooh...you smell nice!". Money well spent, even if I don't particularly favor the fragrance. I know she loves amber fragrances on me, but I prefer my bottle of
"Davidoff - Cool Water Intense" over this frag if I'm going for "Amber".
CWI is just smoother, brighter, and better composed for my liking.
Grand Soir is just TOO MUCH "Amber" for me...

This is a nice one to experience, but I may just buy the clone and send the OG bottle to my dad. He might like this...
Probably should have just bought the "FW - Barrakat Amber Eve" clone in the first place for a frag so simple and plain...

Overall: 6/10
TLDR: Amber/Labdanum overkill...I'll stick to "Cool Water Intense" for a proper "Amber" frag.

cinamonywhiskey123

imma buy this blind, wish me luck

NNNnovicenichenose

Grand Soir epitomizes the amber experience for me. Amber dominant fragrances should not be experienced in the store, certainly not on a tester strip, and they're definitely not safe to blind buy, especially if you're new to the genre.
You need to waltz with them for a few hours, by then you've either warmed up to them but discovered they're not quite right for you, or you're deep under their spell.

0xrafae

Grand Soir is the ultimate amber fragrance. It's straightforward with its vanilla and amber mix, but that simplicity works wonders. The scent is gorgeous – maybe even more so than Amouage Opus VI, which hits on similar tones. MFK is a beast perfumer.

Chemason1967

Made the mistake of wearing this for the office, after 3 hours I wanted to take a shower f**k me it’s cloying luckily I had to go out in the afternoon and once the air got to it then it became a whole new ball game, the Vanilla started to come through and by the end of the day I wanted more.
My advice don’t overspray because it’s very, very strong.
8/10

Yungjoey154

For a fragrance with only 2 notes, this fragrance blows it out of the park. such an elegant blend of such simplistic notes. If you wondering about if its worth spending the money, it is 100% worth it. GO for it

L77

Opening is not it, smells mature imo. Nice drydown but overhyped.

Unisex

Big ora scent only "boso"

This is nishane ani mixed with the cheap spice perfumes you get from a Gulf old market. Smells cheap for the price no offense. Glad I got a sample and didn’t blind buy this one.

elmiguel

metallic to me, just not for me. the smell is not it for me

devendaljit

This is by far my favourite fragrance of all time and still to this day the best thing I have ever smelt. Amber and Vanilla perfection. The best dry down of all time with this amazing vanilla. 11/10. Will be buying a 200ml backup

Frangipanilove

Grand Soir. Starts off too after shavey with the same irritating note combination I smell in Musc Ravageur (which I detest), though not quite as sharp and prominent here thankfully (think this is a combination of dhm & lavandin, with something else thrown in, perhaps clary sage). But unlike the aforementioned MR this facet in Grand Soir smooths down more, leaving a nutty, kind of cognaccy, almost buttery base. Still, not one for me. Too aftershavey. Must be incompatibility with my body chemistry compared to those multitudes who love this. Musc Ravageur I literally have to wash away - this one I can tolerate - but not like. If the dhm/lavandin facet was toned down even more, perhaps. There are many Maison Francis Kurkdijan fragrances I like - this one, on me, is not one of them.

Ferg1

GS is a must have amber fragrance imo. Nothing ground breaking but simply gorgeous and above all so easy to wear.

Gaboich

Im reviewing this fragrance again because i underestimated this the first time. This fragrance smells so good.
Its been a WEEK since i applied it and i can still smell it lmao. Not to mention that i have showered atleast 5 times since apllying.

But to the scent. There isnt a lot of things to say about the scent. Strong amber for atleast 8 hours and then vanilla mixed with amber in the rest of it

scent:9/10
Longevity:11/10
Projection:7.5/10

Britneycollector

Ummmm no, no, no, no.

Have you ever gotten a whiff of a freshly opened bottle of Kombucha!?

This fragrance captures exactly that, if you enjoy the smell of Kombucha, this would highly recommended to you.

God dang overpriced and overrated.

MemphisJonea

I really thought I’d love this one. I don’t know if I got a bad bottle but it smelled like intense, borderline rancid almond essence. On the plus side if this one does work for you, it’s hella strong. I had to turn a fan on to get the fumes out of my study after spraying it on a tester strip.

cinamonywhiskey123

how this is vanillic? it is overwlelmingly spicy and it fagged up my nose.

Prunel

Pure class. That's what this is. This is a very warm, comforting classy scent. It is linear, doesn't evolve much. Focused almost only on amber and vanilla. As for performance, this is a pure beast. Longetivity is 12+ hours easily on my skin, and the projection is really loud. Spray with caution. This is the thickest perfume I've tried yet, it feels like oil. Unisex leaning masculine.
After trying it for a few months, I got a 200ml bottle. This is the most comforting scent ever created for me, I use it on testers to calm myself. The scent stays for weeks on tester strips and clothes. I really hope this never gets discontinued, I am in love. Also, the price is super good for 200ml when taking the quality/performance into account. It's barely 1,7 euros/ml not considering the amount of free stuff I got with it. Do yourself a favor and try this.

RyanDaRaider

Im really unsure why the hate on this one. Easily gets a 9/10 from me. You def get that amber in the beginning and it almost smells tobacco like(yes I know there is no tobacco in here). It's a bit sweet but I wouldn't say overpowering. The dry down explodes with vanilla. Pretty solid silage and you know MFK lasts awhile on the skin.

JonahD2009

I recently got a sample of this because of its outrageous price. This is a awful sweet fragrance, doesn't last at all either. It is the worst possible combination of amber and vanilla, not worth the price. Azzaro most wanted parfum is better, and I don't like that either. Easily not worth the 300$ price tag.

Saad_ali

Very likable luxury fragrance. Easily the best from MFK, which is personally a brand I never really enjoyed. I once smelled this as I sat outside the St. Regis Dubai mixed with the smell of cigarettes and sweat and that smell kind of reminds me of some 'the sopranos' characters, like Carmella, or Christopher in a suit

Snicole82

A soft amber and vanilla. I downgraded this from a love to a like because it is really linear. It doesn’t evolve much.

It_Stings_The_Nostrils

Grand Soir smells expensive and luxurious as well as empty and unfinished. Honestly to my nose, it’s quite linear and feminine leaning, smells like vanilla extract with hints of clove. Pretty fucking boring and reminds me of a less complex version of fragrances such as Musc Ravageur, Egoiste, Jazz Club & By the Fireplace. If you know what I’m saying, then you know what I’m saying.

Imcheap17

Paris Nights by Alexandria is by far the closest clone of Grand Soir . I have both and you absolutely cannot tell the difference

coracles

Generally very nice. Linear, but not boring, and also not too provocative. Amber, cinnamon or clove-like spice with a warm vanilla underneath. More "refined" than say Replica Jazz Club, and not with much smoke or leather. Deep and linear. Replica Jazz Club is afaik the closest version of this that is affordable.

KwMoy

I used to collect vintage perfumes and old ones as alot of people recommended them over the years. After diving into this world of beauty I have realized one thing that is very important to everyone who loves perfumes and collect them. Don’t go after old famous perfumes but go after new stuff from old famous perfumers. The perfumer’s noise developes over the years and his creativity also increases.

I have been tracking Francis Kurkdjian perfumes from the 90’s until now and I can tell you that he started with great stuff and now he is way way better than him 20 years ago. But he just needs you guys to step by and smell. Don’t buy just smell. You will go home and still think of that perfume you have smelled earlier.

Baccarat Rouge 540 produced to the market in 2015 and it went viral. A year after, FK produced the best sweet perfume “Grand Soir” but everyone was busy buying or copying BR540.

Grand Soir is good at making shy people ask you what are you wearing !!

DVDEK

Vanilla + amber. Pretty weak on my skin, but its very pleasant to wear.

gabe764

It smells good but is a bit overrated
It reminds me of Mercedes club Benz black, I think it’s bc of the benzoin
But I would wear it if I have to
Scent:7.5/10
Longevity:9/10
Projection:8/10

Pfffpfff

An elegant and polished amber. To me it’s a very contemporary amber and not outdated at all even though something is very „perfumey“. Feels like being in a small and distinguished cocktail bar. I love it and I love to smell like it.

bartuszunia

I love this fragrance, but the opening is a little weird for me. I kind of get a metallic vibe that shouldn't be with this fragrance. Good thing it the metallic scent last likes 10 minutes and the rest of the 10+ hours i get is wonderful. Definitely one of my favorite fragrances.

punkb0nes

I'm not sure if I like it or not. It definitely smells nice, but I don't want to wear it. Not for me or the energy I give off (young and poor). Might give the decant I bought to the GF to see if she gets any use out of it. Powdery vanilla, kind of like The Most Wanted parfum without any of the ginger and spice, like if TMW parfum was stripped apart and each ingredient was worn separate.

*Update: It has grown on me quite a bit, the amber is more present and feels warm and comforting, maybe because it's been so wet and dreary lately, think I might keep it around after all!

barta.bart

Probably the only scent out of four that I’ve tried from this house that I can say is tolerable. Very basic and common. I don’t get it.
too overpriced and lasts only moderately. Washing machine detergent
I’m not a fan of this house.

Hami0398

Smells like a grandpa, but in a amazing way

bingo001

Sex in a bottle. My husband can't keep his hands off me every time I wear this.

petra_ita

Omg this is addictive! Only heavenly vanilla and amber and it's so yummy and warm. I think it's perfectly unisex, but personally I love smelling this on my man (rather than on myself). Probably one of the best perfumes I've ever smelled.

Fountain30

I always found this to be a masculine scent but a (woman) colleague of mine wears it. On her it feels feminine. Bold, but feminine. I also used to be of the “it’s dated!” camp but I no longer think this. It’s so sophisticated and classic I just think it’s timeless really. Not dated or old fashioned.

kermzie

a fragrance that can and will set your nose hairs on fire. would maybe be nice smelling if i did not have a visceral, bodily reaction to it. blew my nose afterward and a little blood came out. not a great sign

stakasaki

Warm and delicious with a very rich, resinous quality coming from the strong amber note. Expensive and heavy with great projection, as expected from MFK. I tend to find MFK fragrances to be a little bit too heavy and slightly headache inducing, but this one just works for me. It's not too complex either, which is totally fine in my opinion, especially for such a thick scent.

Ginzao

MFK made this as a homage to old school, classic french perfumery. Hence, I understand and agree with other reviews that say it smells like something an "older gentlemen" would wear. These ppl probably grew up with European grandpa just like I did. Although, I can appreciate it for what it is, a nice trip down the memory lane, it's certainly not something I can wear and feel modern and sexy.

CrisMS

Strong like. Not a typical amber to my nose, it's a more perfumey amber with lots of vanilla, perfectly blended. Its a spicy, bit aromatic amber in the opening, then mid and base is a smooth vanilla/tonka with hints of amber still lingering. I find it unisex now, but the first time I tried it I thought it was more masculine. Let it dry and you'll fall in love!
It doesn't remind me of Material by Amouage at all, that one is heavy incense resinous, less vanilic, even a bit harsh.
In my humble opinion MFK blends like no other! All of his perfumes are about finesse... refinement... sophistication.
The only "complaint" is the price. And I'd like refillable 35/70 ml bottles, not just the 11 ml travel ones.

Sissen

Very beautiful amber, very warm from the beginning. It almost leans on masculine side after a few minutes (lavender ?) but it makes it very classy on a woman. Then it goes back to a very deep and not overwhelming amber, not waxy at all like Ambra (Le Couvent) can be. Very linear and yet lovely.

cleonlidaris

Possibly the best fragrance ever made. I get complimented all the time on it and whenever I smell it on myself I take a little moment to appreciate this beauty. It is straight amber and vanilla, and is linear. it smells like adele hitting the greatest note of all time on a 10 hour youtube video loop. If you are a bit of an straight gigachad artsy type dude, take care of yourself and dress business casual with a hint of gay, this is a scent that will tie it all together into an irresistible package. 10/10, its over if a girl smells this on you and you aren't a literal homeless goblin. if you come across this sauce, never let it go. Anyone saying this is overrated or not complex enough is gaslighting you and has spent way too much time on this website and needs to go touch grass and maybe touch ass. Once you get this basically half of the top rated fragrances on this website become irrelevant because you will never find a better vanilla dna, amber dna, cold weather dna. paris night by af is a great clone of this btw. it is incredible to me the kind of shit that gets rated higher than this on this website.

1Noir

Beautiful amber, and vanilla fragrance
works best in fall, winter, and spring

09pinkrose02

if you love this scent but cannot afford the price tag CK Obsession is literally the same. Obsession for women leans slightly sweeter so if you think this is too masculine you will LOVE CK Obsession. I personally think it's better and more approachable than grand soir as it doesn't have the 'old' vibe.

istvan.buda.779

I wore this today and it was 20 Celsius and it smells gorgeous in warm weather

cinamonywhiskey123

spicy?

JmThms

It's good as far as the amber accord goes. But that's what it is, the amber accord, with just a few aromatic or spicy additives. If people want to restrict the genre to pretty much that accord then it might be the best. But I define the genre as including amber dominant frags. That's why I consider Chypre Palatin my favorite Amber. Lots of accords roiling around. With just pretty much the Amber accord you get criticisms like "Blunt with no depth or nuances." It's got depth of amber, but not composition.

stardust_ziggy

I felt hurried at the Sax counter. Hurried by me…there were so many fragrances to try, and I sprayed this and immediately thought, “Very Interesting.” Then moved on. But it stuck with me. I really want to smell this again.

sleep tight

Opens with a spicy masculine amber and mellows out to a more feminine warm vanilla. A classic leaning scent with a fun unisex twist. Lasts forever, too.

nxni

overrated

DYNABLASTER77

Very nice but a bit boring

7.5/10

Treyshawn

man smelling it ain't enough i need to fuck it

Goldena35

Spicy was my first impression. Warm thick spicy amber. I love it. It’s linear (which is not a problem for me because I love it from hello). Opens loud and stays that way for a few hours and then dries down into a golden spiced honey amber with dark vanilla. I keep saying amber but this is the epitome of amber to me so… Leans a bit masculine to my nose but firmly unisex. There is a dry herbal note that brings some light into the mix. I am loving it in the cold weather with the warmth it brings. Could be too much in heat. Gorgeous sexy fragrance.

supermukbanglove61

i didnt like this at first until i smlled it more and more every time i went to mecca. pretty good

Heliotrope72

Rating: 🤔
Do I like it: It's okay
Who it is: A mysterious old shopkeeper drinking a can of cola
Smells I get: spicy pepper, cardamom, vanilla, soft resin.
Meyer's Briggs type: INTJ, INFJ

Starts off really spicy, which is surprising. At first, I get mostly pepper and cardamom. But then, it becomes a smooth blend of vanilla and resin, kind of like a cozy, old library. It's simple, a bit sweet, a bit medicinal, and pretty nice overall. Reminds me of Lord of Misrule from Lush.

Lykopa

This opens as a sexy, spicy amber. Mesmerizing and titillating, this reminds me of steamy cuddles in bed and winks cast across the bar. Labdanum and vanilla and sex. Delicious.

user2988

If you smelt this and thought it was too strong / masculine / medicinal / spicy , let me tell you THAT WAS JUST THE OPENING.

You neeeed to let this dry down, give it 15 minutes, it will completely change into this mouthwatering ambery vanilla, and it stays that way for the rest of is 12 hour span. All of that commotion in the opening seems to completely disappear. Its perfectly unisex, you just gotta be patient.

And trust me this projects like crazy, which you might not notice cause it really jumps off your skin and travels throughout the room. dont over apply.

cflatorrev

Too strong for me. And masculine.

jackthomas_

It's nice, but it definitely smells sort of old-persony. To my nose, I get a lot of vanilla. I quite like it, but I couldn't see myself wearing it often at all. Longevity is great, and sillage is moderate to strong.

X30kzz

Honestly I love this fragrance, it’s addictive it smells so nice it’s unisex, only problem I’m having is that the sillage / projection isn’t very good unless I go over 4 sprays
Overall I’m in love with this, I keep smelling it on my arm and lasts 12 hours on my skin
I just wish the projection was as good as the longevity 💔

Flamingophil

Beautiful fragrance, don't think it's worth £175 but will be 100% getting a bottle lol pulls compliments every time I wear this

Basic9

Such a beautiful and gorgeous fragrance. It’s a fragrance that will always be first pick for a special event or when dressing up. The amber is so special and it envelops you in a tastefully sweet and dense smell. It’s definitely one I’ll rebuy when I finish my bottle.

dutyfreelover

This fragrance is the fragrance i have been looking for my whole life. If you want to smell like an amber cloud and let every single individual you walk past know that, this is the one for you. My initial thoughts when penetrating my nostrils with this scent was that it was extremely overrated and did not live up to its expectations at all since its heavily boasted online. My friend recently purchased it and gave me 2-3 sprays to try and convince me that it was good. I was proven wrong within the first 30 minutes. All i could smell and think about was that sweet amber note lingering throughout my aura, striking everyone around me. This fragrance is a compliment catcher, and i can assure you, it works on women.

NudeFishes

I appreciate it, but I don't think it's for me

sadboy2002

The textbook definition of amber, perfectly executed, but just that. Vanilla is nice and never gets too powdery, dusty woods linger underneath to give a bit of a masculine edge. If you love amber scents this is the pinnacle, but if you want something more unique this is rather simple.

Pound4Pound

This HAS to become part of my collection! A full bottle will be purchased here!!

Jixyte

I damn near have an orgasm everytime i smell it

09pinkrose02

smells SO much like calvin klein obsession... i'd say its a less sweet and less feminine version of it hence the lavender. i like it! i will not be purchasing a full bottle though

aaronburrkowitz

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Gives you amber, and gives you vanilla. It's very well balanced, and it sure does smell like it should be worn at a...grand soirée...but for all the money you have to spend on this thing, I sorta feel like you'd want it to do something a bit *more*. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good blend of amber and vanilla, and that's what you're buying it for...but it feels a little simple for the cash you gotta splash if you want to get your hands on it. If money is no object, and you really want a fancy-looking bottle for your collection, you could certainly do worse. But for the hoi polloi (myself included) you can probably get a similarly-scented dupe for a fraction of the cost.

dylan.collects

No thanks! Overload in lavender and amber. This is the first perfume that actually caused a headache. Even my boyfriend opened a window in the car because he hated it (sprayed 3 times on my neck). Glad I only bought a decant.

layyelisee

SO MUCH LAVENDER!!
If you’re like me and loathe the scent of lavender, then this is NOT the scent for you. I usually love strong fragrances but this scent is extremely cloying and gave me a day-long headache off of three sprays. It has a strong amber fragrance so I assumed this would’ve been such a great fragrance for an amber lover like me, but the overwhelming lavender note ruined it for me. If you like YSL libre intense then you’d probably like this. They smell similar but not exactly alike, this leans more masculine on me.

ShaunMichael

First thought: Reminds me
Of the smell of walking into an asian families house. 💯
After 30 mins….ok….i see the hype of this fragrance:-)

Surfinirfin

As it says in the AI bullet point review, if you like warm/amber, this is for you. I don’t and I didn’t mind the toned down amber at first. I think that’s the vanilla interacting with the amber, but after the dry down which was quick it was a strong amber

Curtis Gabriel

Absolutely beautiful and enchanting. Vanilla, Amber, Tonka blended to perfection. It smells luxurious and refined. Great projection, not too overpowering but leaves an alluring scent trail. This lasts a good few hours especially on clothes. One of my all time favourites! I will always have a bottle of this.

cdiazestrella

This perfume is a divine blend of amber and vanilla, creating a harmonious and delightful aroma that I adore. It is the perfect scent for me. The amber is rich and sophisticated, while the vanilla is smooth and elegant. I don’t agree with those who say this smells like a grandma. To me, this is the essence of sexiness and seductiveness, with a touch of mystery and allure. My man loves it too, so it’s a win-win situation.

dbrii24

This is high-premium amber -- smooth and opulent. Very refined and sophisticated. As it develops it transitions into a velvety vanilla/amber amalgam accented with the slightest touch of lavender. I'm in love with this! As a woman, my dream man wears this...but we'll have matching His & Her bottles for sure. This stuff is perfectly unisex and legendary!

n.ben885

I really need to stop writing reviews before testing perfumes out on skin because it changes my opinion drastically. I did not like this perfume all that much, thought it smelt super plain for a 320 CAD perfume but I wore it out a couple days ago and it smells divine. It's a smooth vanilla, so creamy with a woody/ spicy undertone that makes it smell sexy and classy, beautiful for the colder months. Imo this is unisex but leans slightly masculine due to the woody undertones. Masterpiece of a fragrance, will be getting this sooner or later. 9/10

JulmaJuha

This fragrance makes me think I like amber more than I realize. I can definitely detect both amber and vanilla, the combination brings toffee on my mind. Warm and sweet. Like Blessed Barakafrom Initio, but sweeter and not as loud.

Doesn't really change during drydown. Performance and longevity are perfect for me. Even though the warmth makes you think this would be more suitable for cold evenings, I don't think it'd be too weird to wear this on a hot summer day. There are better options for that, but this would definitely work too

Ali477

At looking at the notes i thought this would be a rather simple fragrance, turns out that it smells more sophisticated than how it looks. I would definitely cop this for my birthday, as expected from the company of MFK. 🔥

Mr.Sand

If you want a gorgeous vanilla fragrance, look no further! In my opinion this is Christmas in a bottle. Very simple warm creamy vanilla scent. Perfectly unisex, and would be a perfect scent for those cold days. Only bad thing is that it’s nothing unique though.

Bizzy1995

Simple but beautiful ambery vanilla fragrance. Beautiful opening of a fizzy amber. Almost reminds me of Coca Cola in a way. Dries down to a soft creamy vanilla. Unisex, leaning feminine. Non offensive. Just a gorgeous scent

Sophia97

Firstly, I need to take a moment and appreciate the bottle, so pretty! I love how it gives mild vanilla smell after the dry down. Very classic, decent fragrance for me. Also, it says it's unisex but leads more towards masculine side but any how I love it!

junkioberyoloman

It‘s simple, but very beautiful. Slightly „dusty“ amber that smoothes out and becomes more vanillic with a creamy tonka bean. It leans slightly masculine but could be worn by anyone.
Would be really good on a date, because the projection isn’t too strong, but you will leave a nice scent trail.
(Edit: Nevermind, it actually is pretty strong, go light on the sprayer. lol)
It’s really approachable and simple so I would doubt anyone would have a negative reaction.
Longevity is extremely good on my skin for some reason.
Got a good deal on a partial after i sampled it.
Atomizer is good and I really like the quality of the bottle.

When im not sure about which fragrances to actually buy as there is quite a lot on my wishlist, i try to reminds myself to buy fragrances that gives me a feeling, awakens something in me. And this does just that. French, beautiful, - sweet, but in an comforting, warm and ambery way, which is caught in the arms of labdanum and siam benzion.

Francis Kurkdjian is a true talent in my opinion.

Samurai23

I'm disappointed. I think its the amber. Maybe it's too dominant and I wasn't aware what amber really smells like... This is an old school (or classic) oriental smell and nothing else.
I guess if you like that kind of smell, you will like Grand Soir.
The scent is heavy and lingering, cloying, not for me...

cafeyleche

This fragrance takes me back to my childhood when Dior Farenheit was first launched. The dry down gives me a similar amber/lavender sensation.

RealTwizzy

now THIS is art

berkeozgen

An amazing vanilla and amber scent, I am truly amazed. I can't even describe how I love this scent. Incredible compliment getter.

TBonetheFella

I am officially in amber heaven, simple yet pure elegance.

This is everything I wanted “Attaquer le Soleil” by Etat Libre D’Orange to smell like and more. This is so resinous, comforting, smooth, high quality, sweet, and surprisingly nuanced that I’m frankly blown away. This fragrance is fairly simple in concept, mostly focusing on smooth benzoin, labdanum, and super comforting vanilla; a classical amber. While the tonka and lavender are there if you focus in on it, they provide supporting roles to the benzoin, labdanum, and vanilla. The lavender provides a small bit of freshness and the tonka provides a nice nutty/rich depth to the fragrance, both highly appreciated yet understated. The benzoin in this is smooth as hell, slightly sweet, and even a touch smokey. The labdanum is where a lot of the nuance comes from, from honeyed golden sweet to almost a bit pine like, it fluctuates and changes as the fragrance dries and probably the best labdanum note I’ve ever smelled before. Combine all of these notes with a backbone of creamy, sweet, and smooth vanilla and you will have finally reached amber heaven, aka Grand Soir.

I plead with those whose main complaint with this fragrance is its simplicity to look past that. I truly can, mostly prefer, and appreciate fragrances with layers of depth and interest, but sometimes simplicity is just as amazing. If you are at all interested or a fan of amber fragrances, try a sample of this. I truly think this is a fragrance that no one can truly dislike (unless getting choked out by it), and could become someone’s or even my signature scent.

Beast mode projection and performance and currently tied with BR540 Extrait for my favorite MFK frag.

10/10. A masterpiece. Might be a top 10 favorite of all time if/when I get it

Rmgxi

For how simple of a fragrance this is, the price is quite steep, smells identical to the 60$ essential oil I have of amber+vanilla for my diffuser which is what put me off to this fragrance, I now associate this with being a room scent rather than something id wanna smell on myself/others

katie02kat

It is attractive and memorable,But for me it's too masculine.I really like it on a man

MM888857383

This is unisex but leaning masculine slightly. But it's sooo nice for either gender I think. I like very feminine scents so if I wore this I'd layer it with a more feminine scent, but very nice. 9 out of 10.

jcarn90

In a complicated world, simplicity is messianic.

MFK, as a house, never interested me. I often smelt it on the nouveau riche and, much like their tastes, I found it a bit pompous (every "hoity-toity" woman in the Northeast BATHES in Baccarat Rogue 540). This, in addition to the fragrances being extremely expensive, left me with an unsavory impression of the house altogether.

This is why, when I eventually got my hands on a sample of Grand Soir, I was pleasantly surprised by it's charming purity. Grand Soir, much unlike many contemporary fragrances, is an exercise in restraint. A damn fine one at that. What you are left with is, arguably, one of the greatest Amber fragrances of all time. A harmony of sticky, semisweet amber wrapped in a blanket of purifying, vanillic resins. Completely unisex and reasonably versatile.

It made me think - maybe some things are worth the money. A beauty.

hrhalexandru6

By far the only MFK fragrance I would wear. I love its warmness, its elegance, and I think that its old-school-ness is exactly what makes me want to get a bottle for my collection. To actually appreciate this piece MASSIVELY depends on skin chemistry and that's why Grand Soir might not get the recognition it deserves.

ladolcemae

My favourite perfume ever, which is why it took me so long to report… i could go on and on about this so I’ll stick to the essential.
Definitely depends on skin chemistry, because on me it’s burnt caramel, warm and spicy vanilla on a bed of soft woody incense. It granted me so many compliments, among whom my favourite: “you smell like summer nights”.
Try before you buy but if it works on you… wow, does it WORK.

ohmy222

A beautifully smooth combination of amber and vanilla. By far my favorite from MFK. Not sure it is worth the money but a well crafted delight. Sometimes simplicity is perfection. Longevity is pretty good but not a beast mode fragrance for me. The drydown is better stage. My wife has used mine as well so a good unisex option.

karinavi

starts off just like every spicy vanilla out there (lune feline, divine vanille, etc), but smooths out beautifully to a warm, slightly sticky amber. i really think this is perfectly unisex, both comforting and sexy on anyone. there isn't a whole lot going on after the opening, just the most gorgeous amber vanilla. for that i think this is rightfully a staple in many's winter collections, an easy wear for sure. i'll get it if i can find a really good deal on a partial.

MrMrBrian

I wanted this sooooo bad & then got it & Um…I guess I expected more? Not super sure…The Amber is a truly good Amber that satisfies me enough? I guess?? But in the far far dry down I do tend to like this alot more. I bought a $32 bottle at the time of “Calvin Klein Euphoria Amber” Bottle pretty much for the hell of it and I’m not gonna try and tell you it’s just as good or anything like that But……I dunno It’s like there’s no other notes…Again What was It supposed to expect? I own it I don’t dislike it either so I occasionally find times to wear them both

khent.em

This is simply a masterpiece. The best amber fragrance there is. Very warm cozy and comforting. I will never get tired of this fragrance, and it will always be a favorite in my collection.

Hide12345

This is hands down the best perfume I've ever smelled. the simple amber vanilla makes it so pleasant to smell.

Angelic3432

I'm in love with this perfume. I'm so tired of hearing about BR540. This is much nicer to wear. BR540 is overrated in my opinion and I swear every other review on perfumes not even close to resembling each other people swear it smells like it. Grand Soir is in a class by itself.

sashadawnne31

absolutely stunning fragrance

mesterlorand

This was love at first sniff! It's classy and fabulous. In the opening i seem to smeel an amaretto cherry accord, very similar to Guerlain's L'Homme Ideal Eau de Parfum. It's not that prominent, but it's there.
It's definitely a fall/winter scent, but it's wearable day and night. I think it's my best buy in 2023.
Longevity and sillage is amazing, and definitely leaning more masculine.
10/10

Mr Moustache

Great Ambery Spicy Warm fragrance for delightful winter night out.
If you dont over spray and have my oil skin you can for sure smell Tobacco Vanille after few minutes, an even more refined Tobacco Vanille
A must have in a Winter Collection

StinkyKat

I own 3 MFK fragrances and sampled all the collection. The Grand Soir takes me back to my childhood. I grew up in south America and my grandmother spent a lot oh her time ( an mine) at church 🤗. The GS to me, smells like getting home after church, some incense scent still lingering on my clothes and being served some vanilla cookies 🍪 and hot milk. To me the smell is quite comforting but it also makes me feel like a girl boss while wearing it bc it leans a bit masculine on my skin. I wear this perfume on occasions where I know I might feel uncomfortable or insecure. I just love it.

Nova789K!

Extremely nice amber and vanilla with a lot more going on. Love it!

Love & fragrance#01

The color of the liquid says it all… it is strong, potent and radiates really good.
I can’t get enough of this one. This was a blind buy for me and the first time i thought “hmm… i need to get used to it, let’s just wait”. It went from a like to a love.

The notes are just blended in a marvelous way together. The warmth and spiciness of the benzoïne and vanilla mixed with the almost hypnotical tonkabean. In the opening i can detect something zesty… something citrussy? I think this is from the amber or the lavender? I think the last one is more accurate. I also ‘think’ i know what labdanum smells like because i once had some to burn as bakhoor but that was a long time ago. Maybe it is the labdanum that adds a little of a middle-eastern vibe / oriëntal touch to it. In my opinion this is a very warm, cozy but also kind of refreshing scent. There is something in it that i crave for more—> maybe because of the tonkabean, vanilla and amber? I whis they added some more of that stuff that i find kind of hypnotical and am attracted to.
Just the whole composition is so fine and refined! It reminds me a little of Material by the house of Amouage but i like this one more!

This has become one of my favorite, i feel wrapped and cozy just like a cinnamon roll but it also boosts my confidence. So far i got 2 compliments while wearing it. I don’t wear it that much but when i do, compliments are granted.

addictpiglet

If this perfume was a person, it would be Samantha Jones from SATC.

Eternal. I had a sample of this and I could smell this on me for days. I enjoyed the MFK samples but none of them struck me enough to buy a full bottle, but this one came close. It’s very dominant yet sexy and VERY loud. Exactly a Samantha. Although it is unisex I have a feeling that this would suit a man so much more. I don’t know. I can’t test this theory.

Edit: tried the sample for one last time, I’m 100% getting a full bottle. It’s not even a close competition between this and the other popular mfk fragrances like bk540 or oud satin mood.

LEM922

Now THIS. THIS is absolutely incredible. The benzoin and labdanum are SO strong in the opening… smacks you right in the face! But this reminds me of two things: 1. My Ambre candle from Diptyque and 2. Christian Louboutin’s Loubiprince perfume. This is a beautiful, deep, almost slightly smoky amber. Very sensual smelling, and a very strong projector. Truly unisex as well, because while this is sweet, it’s amber sweet as opposed to vanilla sweet or sugar sweet. Perfect for cold weather. Pleasantly surprised by this one, if you live in a colder climate it’s a worthy addition to any collection.

DiorAddicted

This feels like a really sophisticated scent. From its look, to the fragrance itself it feels grown up, rich and graceful. It’s spicy, warm and of course, very big on the vanilla Having only been using this for a short amount of time, I have received multiple compliments from other people when I can’t even smell it on myself. It really only needs 2-3 sprays because of the sheer strength of it, I think it could induce a bit of a headache if oversprayed. Overall, I really love this scent and would recommend if you’re looking to splash out on a fancy fragrance.

gabrielle.xoxo

This perfume is so classy and elegant. I mind sound cliché, but it’s the most appropriate review. It’s not for everyday and definitely has to be worn with elegant clothing. It is also more suitable for mature people (not in the bad way). It tends to be more masculine in my opinion, but that doesn’t bother me. For me this is the best and only fragrance I would buy from this house. The silk oud smells terrible, 100% grandma vibes, br540 is too popular which is not my style and fluidity gold is okay, but not anything special. As a conclusion, the perfume is worth it, its performance is great, sillage and projection are scandalous (2 sprays are too much).

nikkapuspita

My signature perfume oohh it smells so rich and expensive and so well blended. Well balanced amber. On my first try I did not like it (it was summer) and then I brought the tester to offshore (autumn) and I changed my mind. It's so good especially in the cold season. I live in Norway so I can wear it everyday in the autumn and winter season. The longevity is top notch, last more than 8 hrs in my skin and more than a week in my clothes. It might be too much for summer and daylight. I can see a men wearing it. I know it's linear but who cares when you have a good smell that last longer :D

RabidRob

Linear vanilla and Amber scent. Delightful but a bit simple for the price asked.
Definitely an Amber bomb but it reminds me to some degree of the honeyed tobacco from Naxos. I truly think you wouldn’t need both in a collection.

Bertes

The gold standard for Amber.

ekstasy

On my initial spray, I wasn't the biggest fan. It smelled like there were too many notes competing at once but once it settled down on my skin, I was in LOVE. She's spicy and gourmand but also festive? I don't know if that’s the best word to describe this fragrance but it’s honestly the only word that comes to mind. Grand Soir is like a rich explosion full of life, warmth and sophistication.

dan99

A true masterpiece. The vanilla & amber are done to perfection, bravo!

nourmkld

A great unisex scents, everyone ask me the name of the perfume when i’m wearing it

izabelavank

maybe the best vanilla on market? very unique and strong
10/10

Ehsan04

MFK Grand Soir is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of Francis Kurkdjian, showcasing a scent that is undeniably high in quality and sophistication. The fragrance opens with a symphony of amber and benzoin, creating an opulent and warm embrace that is simply captivating. What sets Grand Soir apart is its remarkable linearity – a characteristic that may be perceived as both a strength and a unique trait. Throughout its wear, the fragrance maintains a consistent and refined character, making it a reliable choice for those who appreciate a scent that doesn't dramatically morph over time. The seamless blend of resins and a subtle hint of vanilla adds to its allure, resulting in a fragrance that is both timeless and modern. While some may seek more complexity, Grand Soir's unwavering quality and luxurious aura make it a standout choice for those who appreciate a scent that exudes elegance from start to finish.

LOST_HORIZON

Grand Soir by MFK is a sunny and modern amber fantasy, it is an oriental beauty. Its release smells to me like happy sparks of Coca-Cola and little by little it advances towards an amber with vanilla of excellent quality.
I love its middle and final life, although it is linear, because I only smell amber-vanilla, it is a happy and bright sensation, an amber that is not dark at all, it is an amber full of light. It reminds me of a sunset in an oriental palace. Incredibly pretty and well made, certainly somewhat masculine at first but as it progresses it becomes more unisex. One of the most intense and wearable ambers that I have had the great pleasure of trying. Bravo MFK!

Dhillon1990

Such a beautiful fragrance. Simply amazing

pinkfairygumdrop

@ladylannae I have a very experienced nose and even I, for the life of me, cannot figure out how everyone thinks this smells so good or "a masterpiece"
All i get is amber and musty old light kinda cologne-y/lavender smell. it def leans masculine to me. I get no vanilla or nothing sweet AT ALL.
as linear as fragrances get, basically
I ended up tossing my sample
Kudos to you if this smells amazing on anyone reading this, but tbh one of the worst things I ever sampled. i will never ever understand the hype around this one

Ladylannae

@sparkleskies I had the exact same reaction! I also have an inexperienced nose and this perfume smells like being punched in the face by your grandma and then screamed at for hours. The only good I can pull out of this fragrance is the smell that lingers on your clothes the next morning is the most pleasant part but still a bit of an old lady smell.

I hope my nose develops over time and I understand why everyone is calling this a masterpiece.

Until then this is a definite no for me.

Enrium

I love a good amber scent, and Grand Soir has been frequently recommended online as being one of the best modern offerings. Francis Kurkdijan is one of the most talked-about perfumers of recent years thanks to his work for Narciso Rodriguez, Elie Saab and most notoriously, Baccarat Rouge for his eponymous brand, Maison Francis Kurkdijan. He is now the in-house perfumer at Dior. I got a discovery set for the aforementioned MFK, and GS is a great place to start. A rich, classic amber scent, unisex and just the right amount of sweet, this is dark, smooth and beautifully-balanced. Deceptively simple, it showcases a multifaceted amber accord, beautifully put-together, classic but relevant and palatable for a modern audience.

GS is set apart by its lavender note, an unexpected aromatic opening that is somewhat at odds with the amber accord that forms the crux of this scent. Except, it really works. It gives an unexpected fougère-like lift to the opening, setting it apart from its otherwise fairly traditional structure. The amber accord develops underneath, smooth and balsamic. The powdery vanilla note adds sweetness, melding beautifully with the balsamic amber. The tonka bean follows, rounding out the the amber with its sweet-spicy, slightly nutty smoothness. It is all very smooth and refined. The lavender fades but lingers in the background for a little while.

It is fairly linear, remaining a balsamic amber scent as it dries down. Some labdanum adds a leathery nuance to the base, adding to the amber accord. It becomes musky as it fades, the rich, rounded, sweet amber remaining until final fade. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. It is a perfectly unisex amber scent despite its sweetness, and is made for autumn/winter wear.

A classic with a twist, GS lives up to the hype - it is a masterfully-composed, high-quality scent - certainly a contender for one of the best modern ambers. I prefer Amouage Material at a push, but that's just a matter of opinion. Easily the best MFK I've tried. 4.5/5.

I didn’t like this at first, although I tried it in summer. The lavender was too strong, and it was too straightforward, too linear. I usually like a complex, layered scent. However, now that it is winter, I’ve tried it again, and I’m enjoying it. It’s warm and cinnamony and there’s a nice dryness to it that I like very much. On the open, I smell pears, among other things— though they fade. Once it settles, it doesn’t really develop much. But it’s a lovely amber vanilla— albeit, still with a lot of lavender.

Dorange Sense

I smell a ton of cinnamon and I can't with cinnamon unfortunately. Must be somwehere in the ’amber’ accord.

mihuco1217

Not a fan of gourmands, and this barely crosses that borderline. The opening was more challenging than I thought it would be so I’m afraid this ruined the experience for me. However, I will say that the dry down is so much better on my skin. Reminds me of the caramel candies I loved as a kid so this scent ended up as a like for now. As with other fragrances I used to hate and now love, I might give this a try again the next time I visit an MFK boutique and see if my opinion changes.

Shanna.cox77

I absolutely adore this fragrance! My absolute favorite. The people I work with always talk about how amazing I smell. I have never had so many people stop to ask what fragrance I was wearing.

While sitting in the waiting room (at the hospital) I noticed a few nurses from the Operating room kept coming out and walking around the room. I wasn’t sure what they were doing, but when I finally was taken back in the recovery area…I heard someone say “I FOUND HER!!”. Then two nurses came over and begged to know what I was wearing. Then two more nurses showed up with their notepads and requested the name of the perfume. They said that they had been circling the waiting room in hopes of figuring out “who smelled so good”

ermeyasgirma72

This is without a doubt one of the greatest fragrances of all time. The perfect blend of amber and vanilla, a warm, rich, and luxurious scent. Whilst it may be true it is a fairly linear scent, there's not much more that needs to be done when a fragrance smells this good. I got at least 8hrs of longevity on skin, and 2 days on clothes, with amazing projection and sillage within arms reach, catching strong whiffs of what I'd sprayed on my sleeve 12 hrs earlier. This for me is a special occasion fragrance and what I wear when I dress formal/smart, it screams luxury and elegance. I'd say it is better suited to cooler seasons and might be a little too heavy/thick to wear on warm day. The price is relatively fair for the quality of the scent, and given its performance should last you a very very long time if you aren't wearing it every day. Overall - 10/10. Grand Soir is one of the best niche perfumery has to offer!

chri5tin3

To my fellow Aussies, this is currently half price at Mecca for $274 for the 70ml!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it and immediately blind bought it. I'll test it in a store in the meantime to see if I even like the fragrance but that price was too good to pass up.

UPDATE

I couldn't contain myself and immediately opened my bottle to sniff it before testing it in store 💀 I'm so glad I did because this has become one of my top 5 of all time fragrances.

The opening gives me a burst of lavender and vanilla which comes off as quite masculine. It reminds me of a fragrance my dad used to wear in the 90s and I'm almost positive it was Chanel Allure Homme.

The dry down however, is where the magic really happens. I get a thick, resinous cloud of amber, vanilla and tonka bean which is to die for. I literally don't want to ever smell like anything else in cold weather.

I get amazing longevity and protection from Grand Soir and it's worth every cent I paid for it. I highly recommend testing this on yourself for a full day because the scent develops so nicely. It's not linear at all on me, it's just DELICIOUS.

Deliza1997

This perfume was a hella journey for me. Starting from hating it then accepting it now I kinda like it .Yes it is sweet, warm and sticky but there is nothing to induce headache. It’s a mature masculine leaning fragrance and specially made for cold weather. If you are young and more into youthful fragrances you may have a hard time accepting it. I am still in the process. One thing i found, It smells better with less sprays.I just spray it for one to two times, away from my nose and I am all set. It’s an elegant perfume but you have to have your mood and environment set to fully enjoy this.
So from my experience it is a special occasion fragrance, perfect for a walk in the cold nights flooded with street lights having someone special by your side or a an elegant candlelight dinner. Not an everyday wear, not for hot humid environment, and specially not for gym. Please guys don’t do it to yourselves, some dude came wearing it to the gym and it smelt nasty.

Take every men's & dads fragrance from Calvin Klein / Coty / Jovan from the 1970s and 1980s that is AMBER colored . Have a wizard put them all in a huge kettle and ask him to create something magical for the King (it's his birthday Friday). "ZIP ZAP" goes the magic wand. And there we have it! Something magical made from something quite ordinary . That is Grand Soir.

nicholasmendez13

Linear and nauseating like everything else from this house. Sorry to everyone that loves it, but it's really an awful fragrance.

NicheFragFan

With its exquisite blend of amber and vanilla, Grand Soir is the epitome of sophistication. It’s a fragrance that radiates warmth and luxury, perfect for special occasions or a night out. The scent is deep and lasting, making a bold statement of elegance.

Scentacholic

I don't have many perfumes but I'm glad I've smelled this masterpiece of excellent quality. I pity my clothes when I wash them when I have them sprayed with it. I just can't do without it and I would love it if MFK had other products like a perfume oil and a shower gel, for example, of Grand Soir. 20/10.

In Fragrant Bliss

"One amber to rule them all ?!?"
Not quite. For the price, a unidimensional pleasing amber. To get a perspective on amber's potential, may I suggest D. S. & Durga.

ambervxyjul

The best high end amber perfume on the market. It smells luxurious and so well blended. I pick up amber, vanilla and a slight tobacco scent that lingers. This would be fantastic on a man but I will definitely rock this myself. It’s strong in performance as MFK is known for so wear with caution. If you don’t like amber, you might feel this is outdated or “grandma like”, but as an amber lover myself, I am hypnotized by this.

monsieur.moustache

Perfectly blended vanilla / amber combo. Some might call it exquisite, which I wouldn't disagree with.

If you don't like vanilla and amber fragrances, you probably won't like this. If you do, you are in for a treat.

CloudAtlas77

Very rich and luxurious vanilla scent, filled with quality amber. Suitable for activities in the night, filled with candlelights.

I don't have a very experienced nose as I'm just starting to get into fragrances but can someone explain why this perfume attacked my nervous system and traveled through my sinuses? It's so sharp and sickening (not in a good way). It also reminds me of my grandma (also not in a good way). I only tested a from small decant and it lingers and stunk up my whole room!! :( Is it the amber? The resins? I'm trying to figure out so I avoid scents like this in the future...

Deliza1997

To my nose it is very warm and sticky perfume. It is very heavy to my preference. I love warm amber vanilla scents but it didn’t work for me. It is very masculine to my nose. Gave it to my dad, he seems to like it a lot.

Edit: I wore it yesterday for an evening walk outside in 1 degree temperature, Wow now I understand the hype for it. It smelt something a lot different. I was getting whiffs of very fruity sweet vanilla time to time. Not as sticky and masculine. But after returning to normal room temperature the strong masculine vibe came back. It's fragrance that is totally made for cold weather. I will give it an another chance. Hope it will grow on me. I will update later.

brcamp13

This smells like pure warmth to me. Both in temperature and in feeling. It makes me imagine the beautiful amber lights of Boston, and walking home through the amazing brick buildings and streets, perhaps with some snow beginning to fall.

To me it is a very positive and uplifting scent, and its simplicity is something I really enjoy. My other winter fragrance, Layton, is rather chaotic, but still beautiful. This scent is very simple and not chaotic and that seems to fit my minimalist personality.

I wore it on a cold evening walk in my nearby nature preserve and its essence completely matched the mood as the sunset began.

Hard to explain, I would recommend getting a decant. Like many fragrances, it makes a huge difference to wear it on skin than to just smell in a store on a piece of paper.

dripdrip

I love Grand Soir and still think that it’s the best one from MFK, but sometimes I catch these weird whiffs and it feels like I smell like an old, boujee lady which is ruining my experience…Sadly, I'll have to sell my bottle due to this issue.

An evening enveloped in elegance!

Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Grand Soir is a fragrance that captures the essence of a perfect evening in Paris. Known for creating scents that combine sophistication with a distinct sense of character, Maison Francis Kurkdjian has, with Grand Soir, crafted a fragrance that is both enchanting and memorable. This scent is an ode to the elegance and allure of a night in the city of lights.

➡️ First Impressions:
The presentation of Grand Soir is a reflection of MFK's dedication to simplicity and quality. Upon the first spray, one is immediately drawn into a world of warmth and opulence, indicative of a night filled with possibilities.

➡️ The Scent:
Grand Soir unfurls with a warm and inviting amber note, setting a tone of cozy sophistication. This initial impression is both comforting and intriguing, hinting at the layers of complexity that are to unfold. The heart of the fragrance is where the magic truly happens. A rich and resinous blend of labdanum and benzoin provides a sweet, slightly spicy core, evoking the feeling of a Parisian evening that is both vibrant and serene.

As the fragrance settles on the skin, the base notes of vanilla and tonka bean come to the forefront, adding a creamy, almost gourmand quality to the composition. This base is not just a conclusion but a lingering embrace, a warm reminder of the evening's elegance and charm.

➡️ Longevity and Sillage:
Grand Soir is a fragrance that boasts impressive longevity and moderate sillage. It is a scent that stays with you, creating an intimate aura that is both noticeable and subtly captivating. This makes it an excellent choice for those evenings when you want your fragrance to leave a lasting impression without overwhelming the senses.

➡️ Versatility:
While Grand Soir is undoubtedly a fragrance suited for evening wear, its warmth and depth lend it a versatility that allows it to be worn in various settings. It is particularly well-suited for colder months, where its rich and enveloping character can be fully appreciated.

➡️ Conclusion:
Grand Soir by Maison Francis Kurkdjian is a fragrance that truly encapsulates the essence of an elegant evening. It is a scent that speaks of sophistication, warmth, and the magic of a night in Paris. Ideal for those who appreciate a fragrance that combines classic warmth with a touch of modern allure. Grand Soir is a luxurious olfactory journey, a perfect accessory to any evening where elegance and charm are the guests of honor.

Sexiness in a bottle! All these warm and zesty notes entrapped in this little cube bottle. I get an animalic tone too, just enough to make the person who wears it irresistible. On the right skin it projects a lot and smells luxurious. Better on a man' s skin, i believe. It definitely smells expensive, but mostly seductive. It will get you the lady, gentlemen, so don't think about it, invest!

I really can’t stand the lavender in this

Edit: I’ll elaborate. It’s a beautiful fragrance… on a guy. Sweet, ambery, strong and beautiful. As dazzling as a lion under the morning sun. Majestic, even. I can see why many women would use this for layering, sweetening or deepening other fragrances on nights out (after all, this is all about a grand night now, isn’t it?) but I could ever get myself to buy something exclusively for layering, specially at this exorbitant price point. And even still, the lavander still bothers me so… It feels so out of place when I wear it. But a guy, confident and strong, wearing a tux and this? Hell, even smart casual or business appropriate would hit the spot. It would be absolutely gorgeous. So, though I can see the appeal to say otherwise thanks to the overall sweetness of the fragrance, I still will classify this as unissex leaning masc.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention Grand Soir’s resemblance to Tihota, another creation of Francis Kurkdjian. Grand Soir combines the amazing vanilla in Tihota, with a mild balsamic note, and a very toned down, spicy backdrop. Those notes bring Grand Soir solidly into unisex territory, whereas Tihota leans feminine. Mr. Kurkdjian knocked it out of the park with this sophisticated yet sexy fragrance.

istrate_jhony

The best from the house along Oud satin mood.
I get over 10 hrs longevity, stays very close to skin very intim, but for a very long time I can still smell it after 8-9 hrs.
Was love at first sniff for me.

SmallCookie4

Went to Bloomingdales to try and wow after 13 hours I can still smell it on skin ! I have alligator skin basically so performance is no problem !

Linds

I have loved the original pre-reformulation of Dior Addict and was surprised how much similiarities there are between Grand Soir and Dior Addict. It’s a dark, mature vanilla scent. Love this for winter😍

Guardian2471

The most well blended amber fragrance I’ve tried. The scent is a 9/10 and this is a fragrance that I would recommend checking out.

astralmonad870

At first this scent struck me as a very simple and linear amber vanilla, but I've learnt to recognise and appreciate the other notes such as the benzoin which makes it slightly resinous and smoky. If you want an affordable and spot on dupe for this and many of MFK's perfumes, go with Barakkat, an Arab brand. And if you want an even more resinous and smoky amber vanilla with some bright bergamot, I fully recommend Ambre Cello by L'Orchestre Parfums.

httrung32

This fragrance is so intriguing. When I first got a decant, I smelled burning rubber or plastic on a hot road, and the vanilla was hard to detect. I hated it, but months later, I tried it again and it stuck in my mind. I liked it strangely, its unique scent profile, its masculine and elegant aura. It has a warm, ambery, boozy, scratchy, vanillic, plastic scent that is smooth, high-quality, and has the labdanum note that pleases the nose. It is a masculine and seductive scent for sure. Some fragrances copy it but they are not as good. They are similar but stale and not complex and well-blended enough to give the full addictive experience of the original. It lasts 4-6 hours on my skin and has a moderate projection. I think this will be one of my favorite scents for the fall and winter seasons.

Mr. FK is very clever. I can't understand the hype with BR 540 even after ordering some samples from his official site. We all know nowadays that perfumes lost their quality and their 'grand' capacity. I feel so lucky for at least having some experience from the era when wearing a perfume was equal to a signature. Every single penny you paid used to count.

Now, to me Grand Soir is like the little brother of the discontinued Miss Dior Le Parfum created on 2012 from FD. It looks weird it's not in the list 'this perfume reminds me of'. All in all, ambery perfumes are not easy to pull out during warmer days. Amber, Musk and Patchouli could be the main stars in niche perfumes. When using amber as a base note, it's very difficult to 'hide' it or mix it with other notes to create something unique or different. The truth is the result is classy.

It would be disappointing smelling Grand Soir here and then, from very young ages, supermarkets and schools, just like Baccarat Rouge 540 and it's dupe do. I am keeping my hope that amber isn't such an interesting or sexy note for their nose compared to 'burnt sugar'. You must have some experience to appreciate it, be on the right age and moment. It's a yes from me, just because it reminds me one of my favorite Miss Dior mentioned above and now I am in the right moment in my life I can appreciate and rock it. A warm and jammy ambery hug, a labdanum giving a vintage touch, a nice combo of benzoin & tonka bean supporting the 'vanilla' and maybe a lavender that balances the creation from being too much or suffocating. Mixed feelings, FK is the Arabian Tom Ford. Not sure I would spend on a bottle from the moment he creates perfumes for other houses with way more logic prices, same effect. See Burberry Her EDP against BR 540. For a strange reason I am starting thinking of Angels Share from Killian while time passes with Grand Soir on me...For me, Grand Soir is a Grand Surprice traveling me to the past. Cheers!

bigtool_4u

I love this fragrance, it’s beautiful and comforting, I love wearing it to bed and making my sheets smell like amber

AndMon

This is not my kind of perfume. That said, it will appeal for those who prefer sweet loud fragrances that don't change much from the opening to the dry down.

BlackWolfFrags

How has nobody mentioned how much this smells like CK One Shock?? Don’t get me wrong this smells more expensive and refined. But this is just Niche CK One Shock

Rafa_cologne

Simple, linear, and sharp. opening isn't really pleasant a strong amber opening, drywown smells way better very good i like it. slight powdery, classic smelling and elegant. not gourmand but soft sweet. decent, not the best vanilla (not even close) and also not my type of fragrances i like my frags to be less dry. 6/10 decent.

gabriel44

Not a fan personally. There’s a strong note that stands out so much thats not very pleasant for me but the drydown is pretty nice.Definitely sample before you buy

royalmagic

It took some years before i got my hands on first MFK fragrance. What I can promise to you friends - money you pay you will get back in quality wise - really high quality scent! It seems to me that with MFK you wont get this patch variation and weak reformulations!

I really enjoy Grand Soir - potent scent but not massive sillage.
I need to give it more wear but first thoughts are soo positive! 5 stars out of 5!

JJJJNATH

Like a pretty lady even without no makeup, simple yet elegant. That's it

ivar.ks

Although super simple, its beautiful, just like every other mfk fragrance there is something that makes them stand out

Imaginary_Around

This smells very emotionally stable. Like a well-paid teacher in a nice school district who has two shelter dogs. But there's also a weird sultry undertone to this perfume as well, some kind of skin scent. The very top opening is a sultry masculine yet older woman campfire vibe... A few hours later and it's this hyper sexy golden elegant bath and body works perfume.

cords_bradley

I was so close to buying a full bottle of this after wearing 1 spray a couple of weeks back. I kept finding myself catching pleasant whiffs of it all day. It's a cosy warm amber scent, that I could imagine wearing during autumn. However I am so glad I didn't take the plunge on a full bottle.

Today was my first time wearing it properly, several good sprays and a top up 5-6 hours in. And while I stand with the above I think its a little too mature for me (28 f) It has a slight powdery note to it, which is stronger on first spray and reminds me of old ladies. The powdery note slowly recedes as the amber and vanilla deepen, but its still there and now I can't shake that association. To make matters worse the only compliment I got while wearing this perfume was from an elderly woman. I also think I got my first insult in regards to perfume today as a customer made a remark 'urgh somes perfume' while slightly screwing her face up unknowing to her that the perfume she could smell was actually mine.

Don't get me wrong on a whole its a great perfume and I can appreciate the beauty of it. I think it would be a great fit for a mature woman or any woman regardless of age attending a luxury event.

I was shocked to read reviews mentioning poor longevity and projection as I found it performed very good on me.

OlgaAnosova137

To me, MFK perfumes are too refined and can seem stale. They are rather works from a straight A+ student than vivid experiences from an artist. Of course, it depends on what each of us prefers. As it's my review, I personally want a perfume to be dynamic, to evolve, to be a diamond sparkling with different facets teasing my imagination, to tell a story. Grand Soir tells me nothing.
The opening with lavender is clear and loud, and then... ashy whisper lingering behind the sophisticated but boring ambery base.

I understand the idea of including a contrasting note to make the amber-resinous notes shine. Yet lavender outshines all other notes for me for at least 15-20 minutes. It's sharp and violent, adding too much masculinity to the fragrance. For me, there is no calming or pleasant aromatic vibe from this lavender which in the Grand Soir intro is combined with a pinch of dirty smokiness like wet cigarette ash (maybe this is labdanum trying to compete with lavender).

Because of the lavender violence in the opening, my experience with Grand Soir is neutral (the fragrance is not off-putting by any means).
