It is one of those light ambers that always remind me of French pharmacies, soap bars and "Ambrée" eaux de cologne. There's a glimpse of an aged leather note indeed, but it's hiding between the common facets of amber, nutmeg, a drop of saffron maybe, a whiff of smoke. Then come the pacifying notes of sandalwood and lavender to tame the composition even more. Tiny traces of oud and patchouli are the only thing somehow grounding the composition in the later phases, in a discrete way. It's a comfort fragrance, the equivalent of an old leather sofa with a wool blanket waiting for you. A transparent, ambient smell with a close-to-zero projection.

seannmoore

There is no leather here at alll, nice, warm, spice fragrance, same as Burberry London for Men.

Rodrigo2023

I see a lot of people writing "this is a strong leather fragrance"... this is the proof that the majority of the reviewers here have never experienced the perfume, they are reviewing the name only. Definitely, the leather here plays a minor role, if not undetectable. Even though, it's a very good fragrance!

fragranceconstruct

Burnt rubber and animalic notes is what I get, this isn't a safe blind buy leather scent, if it's leather scent at all.

As for the Citrus and Florals listed in the note breakdown, I get none of them, zero.

The dry down is burnt rubber and animalic notes, skanky Oud with hints of Saffron.

Definitely try before you buy.

Soft soapy sweet oud...

I have sniffed this blend before but i don't remember where! i get cottony musk, soft sandalwood, sweet soft amber with a touch of soap. I do sniff some kind of oud but i can't define its origin.

This blend is very soft, very tender, very wearable and easy to pull. Beautiful.

ismellsomething

My experience is that immediately after spray, base notes overrun top notes and you get slap in your face from animalic and leather notes. Mixed feelings for myself. Not safe buy, sample first of you can.

It smells like the dirty 30 year old leather jacket of your sweaty uncle!

If you are into steampunk, this fragrance is for you :) Brings a strong association with the manufactures, early industries in the second half of the 19th century, working boots, rough and a bit oily leather, prepared for the further manufacturing process (the difference is, there is no dirt or sweat here in this fragrantic manufacture, it is round as if the leather was previously washed with some very neutral soap). I like the experience that this fragrance brings and I have pruchased it. It works quite well on the skin, however, I feel like wearing some vintage photo. It fits perfectly vintage places - I would definitely use it if I would work in some old bookshop, tobacco shop, steampunk cafes (we have one in Vilnius), and museum of old mechanisms.

UPD: in colder season it gets milder and brings even the light fruity echo.

smells like an type of ink I used to use, a bit jarring. Without that link it's a decent scent I guess

edgarasgeras

Smoky shower gel and syrupy booze. Quite beutiful and original. In the same line as those simple, cheap but stylish laliques. Though it has nothing in common with boadicea's mayfair. Cuir is really good stuff

I get smoky woods and spices, makes it smell like barbeque to me. I don't get too much leather with this one, not on the level of the Tom Ford leathers or PdM Godolphin. They probably should have renamed this Incense because that's the overall feeling I get.

Not bad but not one I'm willing to reach for.

Vickalicious

Imma get straight to the point: I'm not a fan of this. First, despite the name, I don't get much leather in this. I mostly get oud, very medicinal saffron, and spices. Also, I'm shocked rose is not listed in the note breakdown; it feels like there's lots of rose here. Honestly, this comes across like a rose, oud, and saffron fragrance (a combo I usually enjoy) but for me, the saffron is too medicinal and goes into the latex gloves territory. Not quite dental office vibes, but def latex gloves.

Thatbwoy

Old soiled bandages, soaked in rubbing alcohol and then smoked in the embers of a burnt out shed.

I don't think this going to be one I will add to my collection. I've already thrown my sample of this in the bin.

This is not just a fragrance, this one tells a story. A beautiful story of a life well-lived. Visual association: the music video of "Return to Innocence" by Enigma, the one with the old man who dies in his garden, and then his and his wife's lives are played in reverse.

I bought Cuir for the first time a year ago because I was looking for a nice leather scent, and it turned out to be not that heavy on the leather but... wow! I got so much more instead!

Simply put, this scent for me is quietly cathartic. It isn't a head turner, and you probably won't remember it for the rest of your life after smelling it on someone once. But the more I wear it, the more I enjoy discovering all the subtle layers it has, and the more it feels like a part of myself.

Top notes - Spring: It's both fresh (bergamot?) and distinctly animalistic in the opening, there's that somewhat pungent animalistic note that, honestly, makes me think of goats, but not in a gross way at all, it's bold and beautiful, wrapped in freshness and peppery spiciness.

Middle notes - Summer: It then proceeds to become sweeter with a hint of something sour, I can clearly smell dried plums in the heart. At this point, it sits closest to the skin and becomes quite soft and comforting. Some warm brown leather remains in the background also. Lilies come through sometimes, other times I can't detect anything remotely floral at all.

Base notes - Autumn/Winter: Then, 2.5-3 hours in, it's oud supported by either the same lingering sweetness, or spices, or cozy cinnamon, I'm never really sure how it's going to develop, it seems to vary from day to day. I can still find leather in it, but it's faded, more of a distant echo now. On my clothes the next day, it smells of wooden spools, the kind my grandmother kept in her sewing box.

It's both contemplative and confident, classy but primal, and I can see why a lot of reviewers see it as masculine but my guess is you really have to test this on your skin. On me, the plummy sweetness and all its soft undertones make it more than wearable for me as a woman.

This underrated masterpiece will have a place in my heart forever.

P.S. The sprayer on my bottle (I'm on my second one at the moment) sprays very "locally", I much prefer Cuir sprayed as a finer must over a larger area of my skin, if that makes sense, so I have an atomiser I use for the desired effect. The scent opens more beautifully this way, and I think it helps it project better too.

Suedecat

I consider this one more an amber fragrance than leather. Amber with sandalwood and spices create a cocoon of comfort. This is the bottle I reach for when I want a fragrant hug. I adore this one.

cfman

For me this is a hard pass and the first fragrance that I've given a dislike. All I smell is a medicinal, gasoline mix....no thanks!

btd069

Strong leather and slightly smoky up top like a smack to the face. Oud is more detectable sprayed on skin. A little rough and medicinal opening. Light saffron background vibes. In the dry down, the spices start to present themselves though to me never to the spiced apple smell others have mentioned. This is a pretty challenging fragrance leaning more towards niche type scents less the longevity. Smells very different on skin vs paper. On paper its a little less challenging, so definitely try on skin before purchasing. Definitely not blind buy worthy for most and beginners and younger folks will probably not dig like this. The dry down is way better than the opening so give it a chance. I do get the discontinued JV Dark Rebel vibes on the extreme dry down but not 1:1 by any means.

I got a really good deal on this at $35 so at that price, its totally worth it, and wouldn't pay retail for this or more than $50. It doesn't smell like anything else i have. Longevity, sillage and projection are just average. If it lasted longer I'd give it a higher score for sure.

Speedhorn

I picked this up a few years ago after seeing Gents Scents review. It's a little medicinal in the first 10 minutes after that its absolutely stunning imo.

Perfume opens as strong smoky/burned leather. Drydown is harsh peppery, and the mix of oud and burned leather gives it an urine smell to the perfume, horrible. Not at all blind buy safe.

SaturnsOrbit

This is something special. To my nose, it begins with a harsh smokey leather, but has a transformative journey on the dry down. In becomes increasingly sweet and herbal, settling into something that reminds me of an apple pie. Perfect for this chilly time of year.

ThisMsgWillSelf-Destruct

Correction: After further wear, yes - I detect strong tobacco and leather top notes that dries down to a more incense fragrance.

This is not a leather fragrance. I know, because I literally put leather essential oil on one hand and compared to Cuir on the other. Cuir may have leather notes (particularly towards the end of the dry down) but the dominant fragrances are (in order) Sandlewood, pepper, cinnamon, lily/lavender, patchouli, musk, and amber. There’s one part of the dry down where this smells exactly like Nag Champa incense. I think it’s great as a fragrance for incense lovers, but I’m not convinced it is a true leather fragrance.

belleotero

Vroom! Fascinating fragrance. Gasoline and motor oil opening, rather heady. As a woman this accord makes me feel daringly, provocatively macho, in a borrowed-from-the-boys, motorcycle jacket way — it’s how I imagine women in the 1920s felt wearing Tabac Blonde. But under the jacket is something more elegant. The fragrance takes some time to settle — for a while, quite a strong lemon verbena takes over, mingles with the petrol, and meanwhile the leather impression is slowly taking form via the saffron and oud - a fairly smooth leather but with some tannic sharpness. In and out float the lilies, sometimes there, sometimes not, hovering a couple of inches above the leather and tilting this at times in a more feminine direction. There is also a soft, pervasive, rounded skin scent that arises and carries through the end of the drydown, which I *think* is musk (a scent I don’t have much experience of). Later on I get some kind of dried green note — the patchouli? The longevity of this development is about four hours, followed by at least a couple more of the quite soft, lovely, gentle leather/skin scent that wears very close to the body. At 8+ hours the lilies are back, now over very soft suede.

I find myself addictively smelling my arms while this whole thing goes down. I love it. I think Luca Turin has missed a trick in dismissing all the “ards” of French perfumery as simplistic and touristy — Molinard’s Cuir, for one, is fabulous.

eau de cocoa butter

Oh Cuir! I am scared of you! I love leather handbags, leather jackets, leather shoes, leather soles on my shoes so why wouldn't I love a fragrance named after the beloved? I purchased a full bottle, fully expecting to be taken on a deep, dark, smoky inspired by leather kind of journey but this is LITERAL. I smelled this and my eyes widened! I immediately recognized this smell. It's my well-worn black leather jacket that has soaked up the mirepoix of perfumes I've sprayed on it, with a dash of tar. I can't say I love this. After testing, I placed it back in the box and put it on my vanity. Each day I look at it and wonder if I should keep it or give it away. I'm afraid that it will eventually become empty from me spraying it to retest it to make a decision. Cuir has me so curious, that I may never part with it! Just to say I have it and enjoy being offended by its uniqueness.

7/10. The leather in this reminds me of Shalimar. Also hints of Tom Ford White Suede. Strong up close but diffuse at an arm’s length. A little sweeter and almost floral with time. A good, solid leather fragrance.

Can't put this one together with the things said about it. It's really pleasant, I'd say pretty. I get a sparkly spiced applesauce from it. There's a glimmer of oud in there. But it's always reminded me more of the smooth mall tobaccos (London, Spicebomb, Baux) than any hardcore leathers or ouds. It sticks to a shirt but otherwise fades quite quickly. Truly though it's a pretty fragrance but it's not, like, a thick beast.

I have not smelled Mayfair, but loving Leather Oud, Hyrax, Afrika Olifant et al. makes me really want to get ahold of it. But keeping what's said about Mayfair together in the same ballpark as what I sense from Cuir baffles me. The Varvatos comparison I kind of get -- sweetish, tart, spicy, a bit "designer."

Darius HIldenbrandt

Very exclusive strong smoky-oud-leather nishe scent from Grasse. Simple rectangular violet glass bottle keeps nonordinary and not simple very luxury unisex perfume with very bright notes of spices and saffron

nordstorm

This is a heavenly masculine scent for the leather and oud lovers and I am sorry that I have to tell you this but the performance is dreadful. After 30min (or even less) it becomes a skin scent for 6-7hours when it dies completely.

Edri Tirane

Super beast leather fragrance. Appart leather I can smell saffron too.
For me this fragrance it's more masculine.
worth it for the price
Habanita is a masterpice from the Molinard house but also Cuir is a great scent

Longevity:9/10 6-7hrs
Projection:7/10 4 hrs
Sillage: 7/10 3 hrs

Ако не сте го пробвали в горещините, не сте усетили истински красотата му. Страхотен!

Topaz Taxco

A beautifully complicated, intriguing interpretation of leather with pricks of spice. To me it smells reassuring and masculine, but I am a woman and I love to wear it just so that I can experience the fragrance myself throughout the day. It wasn't immediately addictive for me but soon became one of the scents that I crave.

just get habernita or cartier declaration EDP..better fragrances and similar.,cheaper too

Molinard Cuir is tricky. I was both dubious and tempted to purchase it. I do not like leather in my perfumes and this one is literally called Leather. I gave into my temptation and bought it.
On the first spray I explained: oh my goodness, smells soooo juicy, like the brightest rose and the darkest oud! It works with my skin!
I am not sure what happened within the next two weeks but I could no longer wear it. The first impression of Cuir to be based around rose, oud and patchouli, with something fruity has faded and all I smelled was sour leather. Sad times. Sad story. Eventually I had to give it away to my male friend, it works wayy better on his skin (so far he he he. Leather is unavoidable in this scent. It isn't the driest type of leather, has some cheeky fun notes around it like saffron and lilies but still smells too... 'masculine' to say it with a smile.

Molinard cuir (leather) is in your face really strong leathery fragrance! Leather oud and amber giving smokiness also you can detect saffron and nutmeg! It's dark and sensual for sure for cold weather! Great relise and great price!

Przem

Not the most fortunate blind-buy (after great Vanille Patchouli and reasonable Amber).
I can detect no leather note in this and in fact all I can smell is soapy incense.
This is exactly how Indy shop smells. OK for the shop, not OK for me.
Very feminine. The Mata Hari comparison below was accurate.
It is very one dimensional. It's probably ok as a source of incense that can be added to other fragrances.
The only option for me to wear it is to combine with Amber i.e. a lot of Molinard Amber on top and then pray Amber lasts longer :-)
Overall 5/10.
P.S. Almost forgot, I like the plummy opening but that's it.

mschnabel666

I love leather, but some unisex offerings are too masculine for my taste (female here). Mancera Wild Leather was one of them. This is along the same lines, but a lot LESS of everything. Still a very masculine woody, leather, herbal/spicy scent. However, this is something I'm going to hold onto for layering purposes.

Last night I did Cuir on my skin/chest, let dry, and then dressed and put on Habanita. It worked, but I could smell them both separately- meaning they didn't mesh well.

I think Cuir is gonna be the bomb under some Shalimar. That is my next experiment.

I can't rec this as a stand alone frag for women tho. Unless you ONLY want the woody leather of Bandit or Cabochard.

My first tissue test is almost 24 hours later- and it's kinda lovely. Very faint but dries down to something lovely and wearable for a lady like myself. (Haha, not-- I'm a 39 year old goth)

adrienn99

Leather is one of my favourite notes. I've been eying with this one for years, and recently took the plunge and bought it blind due to reviews and my everlasting love for leather fragrances.
Right, first impressions:
- sweeter than expected based on reviews
- not as heavy on the leather as expected from reviews
- I smell notes different to the pyramid

So here's what I get, which is nice, do not get me wrong :)

Initially I got a boozy, plum liquor (no plum note, odd). I knew Molinard scents usually take a bit of time on skin to unfold their petals... (Habanita, my fav does too)...now the next phase was something which veered dangerously toward cloves. I love cloves. In food. Not in my perfume. I persisted. Later I was relieved because it was something that I liked...a bit fruity, semi-transparant take on polished, black leather, a bit in the vein of Leather Concentree from Aqua di Parma, just not with raspberries but plums. I still have no idea why I get plums tho. :)

neversmeltit

I agree 100% with Andy the Frenchy....he nailed this for me...it might last a couple of more hours on me than him but other than that it is excellent scent. Use this smartly to improve performance. In the UK we can order 30ml versions of this Molinard range which brings the price under £20.00.....stunning price.

Not a Review - yet - I promise to return soon, but...
I had to say BIG Thank You to "Paravani" -
I had 5 mins in which to decide whether to buy this ( auction was ending ) I knew Molinard of old - Habanita being a firm favourite but had bought only "Patchouli" - which I fight my partner for - from the more "recent" ranges.
So...naturally I hotfooted ( handed ?) it to Fragrantica.
Well, let's just say, you had me at " Mata Hari on a Motorcycle" Genius !!
So...£14 (!!) later...one happy leather-loving lady...
THANK YOU !!!!

cocofluff

- This is an excellent aromatic oud and leather perfume. I get a blast of oud in the opening, but it quickly retreats to the background while the aromatic facets of the scent come to life. Even though the name is CUIR the leather is shy and lovely enough for a person like me to love. Leather sometimes smells like hyde or the cow rather than a leather purse, which I don't own because animal skins give me the creeps. And now I'm off on a tangent.

Returning to the review, the nutmeg and lemon verbena really tame this fragrance. That lemon verbena single handedly freshens and makes this perfume unisex and so beautiful. It's just used so well here. Overall this is a well-done fragrance that will thrill any leather lover who enjoys an intimate scent cloud.

SuzanneS

I think Thomas Fontaine is my spirit animal.

Fontaine orchestrates Molinards leather entry in its cannon and its impressive for the price point.

Im a huge fan of leather fragrances and this is definatly unisex.

Oud adds a modern undertone to the leather and a light dusting of floral. The herbal spicy undertone keeps this from being heavy or opressive.

Could easily be a Lubin

Paravani

Oh my gosh, I LOVE this stuff! Molinard "Cuir" (meaning "leather") is the best blind buy I've ever made!

It's rich and heady, with amber-floral notes like my beloved "Le Reve Nirmala" -- but it also has this intimately personal aldehyde note, the "leather" note, which somehow intensifies the entire experience of the scent.

It's floral and amber, smoke and incense; leather and aldehydes.

It's very feminine but feels strong and independent, like a scent that might be worn by Mata Hari on a motorcycle.

Completely irresistible!

Pempipot

I love what the Molinard brand is doing with this line: straightforward scents, masterfully done at an almost laughable price. What's not to like?

Cuir is pure leather scent, extremely masculine and dry. It opens with a small citrus spark and quite a bit of nutmeg and chili pepper, but soon becomes a pure leather experience. Oud is a major note here and I'm not a fan but that doesn't mean I cannot appreaciate here. It should be reminded that as mentioned in several review, Cuir is really very dark and deeply smoky, one of darkest deepest smokiest things I've ever smelled...

It's a classic leathery masculine scent, but as glitterlust pointed out, no reason for a woman not to use it as a pretty bold statement: it's a strong scent, very assured and self centered, not for the faint of heart and definitely for the oud lovers.

TonyAKAMrClean

This is in the same realm as Ferrari Leather Essence, for me - a spicy sweet suede scent where the suede leather isn't the star of the show. (But don't be confused, they don't smell alike.)

The opening is not my favorite, for personal reasons. It starts out with a similar scent to Armani Eau de Nuit Oud, which I also didn't like, because it reminds me of the sweet, musky, brown Speed Stick "Musk" scented deodorant from back in the 80's. My dad bought a giant case of it, probably for some ridiculous price, and wore it for years and years even after they discontinued that scent.

Luckily, within an hour, that syrupy musky scent (which I'm sure many others will still love) gives way a bit, and I get the chilli oil scent everyone is talking about, but the untrained nose will undoubtedly perceive this scent as cinnamon and leather with a powdery nutmeg.

The further this dries down, the more the leather gains distinction and the smoky woody notes that support it are great.

Presentation is nice, I love the purple glass, but the cap on my bottle is SO TIGHT that it wants to pull the collar off the bottle every time I open it.

Personal opinion is that this might be a try before you buy, but many will surely love it. Personally I've had this on my want list for so long that I think I built this up in my mind, expecting it would smell different. It has some very tough competition with other scents I'm sampling recently though, including Velvet Desert Oud, Velvet Patchouli, Lancome Oud Bouquet and Montale Arabians, so it may not be getting a fair shake from me at the moment.

PS - That oud in the dry down is nice👌

ViouAmara

This cuir is something you can’t forget! Dark, smokey, it has a very dramatical way to express itself. Burnt lavender wood, carbon, coal, and the safran with pepper so rough, nearly like chilies. And cloves! Why am I so sure there is cloves in the mix?
Please, take Le Cid and remember those words: « cette sombre clarté qui tombe des étoiles », this dark light falling from the stars: this is it, this is Cuir.
Edit :
It is so dark and dramatic on me, but it is to die for on my hubby. It becomes a kind of anithero scent, insidiously seductive, effortlessly melting with his skin. A tiny spray is still smelling so good after a whole day when we come back home.

aidanfk96

I agree with a lot of the reviews and for once, the description is what it says on the tin. Cuir is a very interesting fragrance and I can see where the leather comes into this name with an accord created. I am unsure whether this leather comes from cashmeran or this is an accord.

This fragrance starts off with a lot of chilli oil in the beginning with a hint of earl grey (from the bergamot) with a hidden herbaceous olive leaf extract essence. For such a delicate smooth fragrance later on, it is quite an eye-opening opening.

The middle impression of this fragrance is smokey nutmeg with a sharpen from the saffron. It smells very similar at this point to Cardamom Coffee by Lush - an oudhy chocolate (not quite lynx though!)

The base impression is powdery and talc-like (coming from the Lily) but without the sourness, possibly through a generous addition of cyclic musks. I feel the soft musk almost gives a CK One base but doesn't smell like the 90s

I found this fragrance when I was visiting Grasse - it is not a traditional fougere or rosey fragrance like a lot of Grasse-inspired perfumes. It has a more middle-east inspiration but still cool to think this is produced in Grasse.

mapache

Spectacular...!!!
A surprise for sure. IMO, this is what I would call a "lavender leather"...???....I at some point feel and sense the other notes in this as well.Just enough nut meg and lily spice...and I think the verbena is the mystery note that adds that certain "somethin' else".
I, personally, don't get Oud in the traditional sense, but that is just fine. This scent goes thru phases on my skin, inviting you to experience ALL the notes is some way. This is a clue to it being quality blending,IMO.I also get a smokey/insense-y vibe like others have mentioned. I can't say that it "smells similar" to anything I have...but if I HAD to guess/choose something,I would say Issey Miyake Or Encens in "vibe" only.
This one has decent sillage/projection...smooth...too.
Thumbs UP !!!

Andy the Frenchy

What a great surprise!

The top is leaning masculine. Despite being listed in the base, I get a very nice round, warm oud-ish wood note right at the opening. It's clearly a synthetic oud accord, but more realistic than in other designer fragrances (YSL M7 Oud Absolu or Versace Oud Noir, to cite just a couple). I also spot a shy cacao note in the background, like in L'Instant de Guerlain. Here, Molinard seems to take the same approach as Acqua di Parma, by balancing traditionally warmer/heavier notes with fresh ones: in this case a sharp bergamot, that will keep an aldehydic touch from top to base. Great start!
The heart is totally unisex. After 15-30 mins, it morphs toward an excellent ballet of nutmeg, verbena, lavender, chili pepper and saffron, in which each note is individually noticeable (note that black pepper is unaccurately listed in the heart notes instead of chili peppers).
The base leans feminine. After an hour, it softens, and the base notes (vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli) give a great impression of suede leather, with a hint of smoke.

Women should not be scared to wear that one: despite oud and leather notes are listed in the pyramid, it's not at all a "masculine woody/leather" fragrance (unlike Dior Fahrenheit or TF Tuscan Leather for example).
The only drawback (already brought-up by other reviewers) is the very low performance (skin scent after a few minutes, and a 2 hours longevity), and thus the use of moisturizer as well as heavily overspraying with a double-layer is recommended - if not required - to get just a soft/moderate projection and 7 to 9 hours of longevity. This is one of the "I wish it had a better performance" shelf, like Pal Zileri Sartoriale for example... in that hypothetical case, both would have been in the masterpiece category.

While Molinard usually targets more the feminine crowds, here it delivers a totally unisex (and fantastic) oud-y/fresh/spicy suede fragrance. At just $40 online, it's a steal!

Imo, it's best worn in Spring and Fall, maybe even in moderatly warm summertime, thanks to the bergamot. It may be preferable to pull it off during evenings, but I can totally see women wearing this one also during the day, in office (low projection is a strength in this case). 30+.

My first buy from Molinard, and for sure not the last one. Despite the bad performance, congratulations to Célia Lerouge (in-house perfumer and chief executive of Molinard) for this great scent!

Alisaaa131

This is an impressive fragrance!
It strongly reminds me of camping and I'm not too sure why or which part of it does.
Maybe a little bug spray like from the lemon verbena, with some smokiness?
I did expect this to be a liittle sweeter but it's quite an oud-smoky powerhouse!
This really is amazing quality for what you pay for!
I'll try this a few times then probably give to my boyfriend, I enjoy alot of unisex fragrances but this is a bit too masculine for me.
I think alot of men will enjoy this fragrance for the cooler months!

-As it sits on my skin, I'm getting a new car with leather seats feeling.
Really interesting! My guy is going to looooove this!

GET DARK REBEL BY VARVATOS-BETTER LONGEVITY AND STRONGER LEATHER

kentabatinga

It's a nice very light leather scent. Unfortunately on my skin it is almost gone in less than 2 hours. I need to over spray it if I want Cuir Molinard to project. I really need to rub my nose on the skin to smell Cuir after the 2 hour mark. Good fragrance but super fleeting.

Duskfall

I got this directly from Molinard in a clear glass cylindrical bottle.

I agree with afterdark; the "lighter" top notes are gone almost instantly and after that you'll be accompanied by leather and oud. It's VERY smoky and elegantly animalic. It doesn't veer into full-on barnyard mode at any point, but it certainly isn't a prim and proper suede handbag either. I admire the way Molinard handles oud in Cuir. I tend to struggle with that note, but in this case smoky oud is the backbone of the fragrance without smelling sickening, fecal, medicinal or artificial. I think the leathery aspects of oud were utilized to a great degree when the leather note in this perfume was being created. It smells really good!

I'll get ready to duck for the rotten tomatoes, but if my memory serves me right, it bears a fleeting resemblance to Armani Prive Oud Royal. That one is a lot heavier (which is not to say that Cuir is feeble), but the oud in OR is also relatively clean and leathery and the saffron is quite prominent. Speaking of comparisons, Cuir doesn't bring either Ambre Russe or Cuir Ottoman into my mind at all, and it definitely isn't similar to the hideous Monotheme Leather.

The leathery oud subsides in the late drydown and the fragrance becomes more sweet and gentle. Amber and saffron are taking the center stage and that spicy sweetness is very comforting.

Totally unisex, but maybe not for extremely girly girls. Longevity is about average, moderate projection. All in all, nothing groundbreaking, but it's a quality fragrance with a reasonable price.

@ ptilda & adrien99 FYI: purple bottles (30 & 75 ml) are for the release in the Elements collection and the mainstream perfume shops, the cylindrical bottles (30 & 90 ml) in clear glass, refillable, are for Molinard's website and shops (Nice, Grasse and now Paris, rue Bonaparte), large refill bottles (250 & 500 ml) are sold regularly on M's website and in their shops.

Just warm yourself up to this beauty gently, it's moderately sweet, and a perfect blend of oud, leather, saffron and amber. Lovely.

Well, you get what you pay for. Really straightforward, un-complex leather tending very slightly to the rawer side rather than just super smooth suede. There's a little sweetness from the lavender and amber notes but it really is what it says on the tin /bottle: just leather, pure tannic leather. Not the most sensuous or the roughest, and not the most long-lasting, either; for me it's pretty much over within 3 hours. This is so reasonably priced, though, that the only obstacle to regular sprays would be not wanting to carry it around.

It's really pleasant, just - for my taste - not the equal of a bunch of more characterful leathers (Evody Cuir Blanc, Lutens Daim Blond or Cuir Mauresque - or even Fendi Leather Essence) - at price points both above and below it.

It was a blind buy and i like it a lot.
I was not expecting to get so much smokyness - at least for me it is the very strong note, but I like it. The only thing that annoys me is the hint of citrusy-lemon thing at the beggining. Longevity is pretty decent.
One of the best things you can get at such low price.

I was hoping for something traditionally French like a Russian leather or even a faint nod to Habanita but this is far from that kind of leather.

It's really more of a spicy, boozey oud in fact. The nutmeg and pepper are sharp and hot to open and the oud is there from the outset. A sweet syrupy synthetic oud. There is a sense of saffron but it doesn't add much character just a little more spicy sweetness and generally there is nothing floral about this.

The lavender peaks out here and there in its powdery aromatic (always reminding me of air freshener) way. Indeed the is a bit of leather behind all of this that is soft, powdery and more what I expected but overall the other notes are a little sharp.

This would be an easy masculine and bold feminine.

I'm very intrigued by this one so had to check Molinard website. The bottle shapes and naming are indeed confusing, there's Cuir and there's Leather. Apparently Leather is a refill bottle. This eludes logic but then uhm zeefrenchhhies :)

Got a similar vibe than bentley for men intense maybe a bit toned down though. Mysterious heavy powdery warm concoction. Really reminds me christmas time. Looks like a winner here

I believe that this is repacked and sold on the Molinard site under the name "Leather," and in the cylindrical bottles. I have yet to confirm that with Molinard. But the stock photos of those bottles say "Cuir," so it would make sense.

While I'm sad to miss out on these gorgeous purple bottles, I'm glad the fragrance still appears to be available.

Now to get my nose on it!
