sprayed in my eyes when i tried it

Gpetitg

It is not Tuscan Leather (at all), in case you were wondering. This is Old School Leather Fragrance, but with a modern animalic approach.

benjamin69

Extremely rich, animalic and dirty but also fresh in a way, with a clear Arabian inspiration.
The leather is a bit too strong and harsh for me to think it would appeal for all women to wear , but to me fragrances have no gender.
Longevity and projection could be slightly better, lasts around 6-7 hours with moderate projection but smell makes up for it, especially since this is always on the cheaper side of Montale fragrances.

When talking about the Montale house this is usually not discussed and I’m not sure why as it is extravagant and stands out to me as one of the best, but maybe it’s best gatekept.

TabledThoughts

This has been on my skin for about 2 hours now and I have to say that this is doggone refreshing for a leather scent!
I appreciate the fact that it's not of the hardcore, nostril searing, synthetic-y 'black leather jacket' variety.
Aoud leather is refined, soft and elegant with notes of bergamot and a gentle saffron.
Oud is so subtle and hardly noticeable.
Ambergris adds a dash of sweetness.
Unisex.

FragranticaWizzard

Beautiful scent, also highly underrated . Performs like a beast on both clothing and scent. Both a fresh spring day and a cold winters day in one bottle (leather and citrus ).

xFragrantica

Animalic type of leather used here, which I love.
However, longevity and projection are disappointing for a Montale.

PearlGarden

This is a pure leather perfume, which has an aquatic note to me. It has a moss type of smell alongside, woody and fresh. Yet it is sweet and I think would be loved by most people. Longevity is great and the scent is beautiful. Love it !

Crazylovesyou

I own a few leather fragrances, including Tuscan Leather, and this might just have the edge. TL is more nuanced but this beast is just straight up fruity leather. It’s a crowd pleaser.

mustataa

Really disappointing. Might just be my batch but the performance is average at best, 3-4 hours, the leather note is fairly weak. However it is a clean, fruity scent, nothing too complex or overwhelming. Overall, it’s a good all-year scent and definitely get a sample before buying, might not be what you expect from the notes/reviews.

Devved

Super clean suede leather. Not Animalic. I only have ombre leather parfum to compare to, and this leather scent is less musky and less sweet in the dry down. It`s not a rubber-leather scent, it`s smooth and mysterious. More bitter and rough than ombre leather parfum. It`s not as thick and it`s super fresh. At first I thought there was something soapy about it, but that goes away. Not sweet.
Longevity is excellent. Projection phenomenal. Unisex -leaning on the masculine side and modern. Really good, fairly linear , would 100% recommend as a blind buy if u like leather fragrances. This one would be super sexy on a man! Overall, it`s pretty FREAKING AWESOME !
update: After wearing it for a while, it has turned into one of my all time favourites. A staple in my collection.

BootneyLee

Oh Lordy Jesus. What? This is just... Oh Gawd. Man. This is like they took the best part of Ombre Leather and added cigars to it. Top 5 auto. There's a hint of synth to it, so I'll hold off on ratings, but I see this as an auto refill for life. Bonkers.
Edit: Ok got it now..This is PDM Godolphin in the drydown. That initial hit tho.....wow. Buy this now.

AAQ

Aoud leather by Montale is fresh take on Tuscan Leather by Tomford. The Ambergris note and the cardamom in here makes it leans towards the fresher side while Tuscan leather is deep rough animalic leather. The fragrance is very nice for beginners to explore leather scent as they will find Tuscan leather bit challenging. Overall, for the price you cant go wrong with it. This fragrance is absolutely unisex while Tuscan leather leans towards the masculine side. 9/10

Mentamo

To me this smells great from start to finish.

An easy-going sweet leather smell with some fruity components. Very similar to Godolphin from Parfums de Marly (which I also really like).

Smells luxurious, elegant.

This is not an ultra masculine leather smell - definitely unisex.
I love wearing it myself, but if I smelled this on a girl I'd also be blown away.

I really, really like this one!

beltine

Unpleasant asphalte and gasoline first. Then these tone disappear and stay dry manly uninteresting smell, little suffocating.

#237 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

My bottom line in evaluating any fragrance is performance, and this frag performs as I've come to expect with Montale Paris, and which is why Montale has become one of my favorite fragrance houses. Even with Montale scents I wouldn't choose to wear, it's never been a matter of poor performance. You get exactly what you expect from an EDP, but more and more frequently don't get with many fragrance houses seeming to take liberties with that labeling.

To my nose this is not a Tom Ford Tuscan Leather clone, though it's playing on the same court. The citrus (though it fades quickly) and spiciness make it a bit different. If you layered Ombre Leather with Encre Noire Sport you'd get something like this, and I think it's very, very good. But "Unisex?" I know one wild child, a real "Werewolf by Night" gal who could maybe pull this off.

At first, I thought it might be a scent I'd reserve for dates only because the opening projection was quite strong, but thirty minutes in it wasn't as obtrusive. I would still say it's not something I'd choose for formal office wear where I stick to Fougères, and I'd say this is not carpool friendly at all, so unless you commute solo, I wouldn't wear this. It would be obnoxious in a carpool, on the subway, in an elevator or in an enclosed office for sure, at least for the first 30-45 minutes. But for most of us our commute is longer than that. An open floor plan office would be totally okay. Still, I'd be careful not to overspray this till you see how it does with your skin chemistry, and I definitely wouldn't bother spraying your clothes. No one within arm's length is going to fail to notice you're wearing this if you just spray skin.

Bottom line, if you're a foreign spy, an undercover policeman, a pop star, anyone trying to go incognito, you might want to pick another scent, because this will likely get noticed. I think your date sitting across the table at an open-air cafe will certainly enjoy getting a whiff of this on the breeze, but this is not something you'd reapply before following them into the boudoir. With those caveats, I think this is a scent you'll like. If it were priced like Tom Ford, I'd say get a sample if you can and make sure this one's for you before buying the full bottle, but at $60 and change, just go for it.

frankcoelho

Not this is what I wanted from Montale: performance, likeability, and an easy wear.
Signature scent! This is a great, wearable leather for all season attention grabbing. While it is a leather fragrance, it smells somewhat like Godolphin from PDM and even a bit of Ombre Leather EDP. However, these aren't redundant.
Love at first sniff, but again, this is a bomb!

BigDurian

No! Aoud Leather does not smell like either of the Tom Ford’s it keeps getting compared to. It’s waaaaaay better.

The leather in Aoud Leather is clean and refined… and after it’s dominance in the opening, blends perfectly into the other notes to create a clean, slightly fresh, a little smokey, mature, masculine… “Professional” fragrance.

For me… Aoud Leather is a big love.

My only complaint is… I wish it projected a little more strongly. But maybe that’s for the best. Otherwise, longevity is very good.

Oud+Cards

Simple scent. Basically afresh citrus upon the opening, the it settles to a leatherlike smell with a fresh fruity undertone.

It smells like leather polishing/shoe shine, and watermelon tridents.

Better than Ombre Leather by Tom Ford (In my opinion). Totally worth the 100 or so USD that it costs. (Last 12+h and with a decent to slightly above average projection)

Arolon0

As good as Ombre Leather, easily one of my favourite in my collection.

NoirMemoir

Dipping my toes into the fragrance world i gave a shot to the LEATHER family and got a sample of two different perfumes so i will share my thoughts on both of them, the comparition of the two might make more sense:
1. Lattafa Ana Abyeth Leather
2. Montale Aoud Leather

LATTAFA:
This is a Middle Eastern cheapie that is cloning Memo Irish Leather. I can only describe it as dry, rugged, unpolished, a little herbacious, bitter leather, but in an alluring way. Very masculine and sharp, nothing held back, no sweetness. If Lalique Encre Noir would be a leather fragrance this is how it would be interpreted, albeit not as smooth as the Lalique. Don't know how Nathalie Lorson did it for the price.

MONTALE AOUD LEATHER:
In contrast to the Lattafa, this opens up with a most typical new car interior leather scent which im not a fan off. Its unisex, civilised, smooth, pleasant and appealing. The opening reminds me too much of car freshners but as it dries down, whatever made the scent so "run of the mill" and "sterile" subsides and the scent shows some "teeth", gets a bit deeper and slightly dirty/hide-like. The Montale is alot smoother and better crafted, with better ingredients then the Lattafa, that's obvious and BY FAR the better unisex choice if a woman would be looking for a leather perfume.

Ultimately leather fragrances aren't my favourite DNA but ironically, to me the smoothness and mass appeal defeats the purpose of a leather fragrance, and for this reason i prefer the Lattafa. It's edgy and rough around the edges but thats what i'd want from this kind of scent. Not to mention it costs 20$ and the Montale is 60$+ at discounters. Its not bad make no mistake, i just find it less interesting then the Lattafa.

If the Montale was a person, it would be me in my commercial leather jacket going to the office and i ain't a scary dude haha. While the Lattafa is a tattooed up, baseball bat wielding, chopper riding bad ass SOB with a scar on his face and a mean attitude.

Chanel.Amalia

Best leather smell in world. So classy so expensive so great.Love it so many years🥰

BananaXango

This is a sharp and clear leather scent. Up top you have a potent citrus spice, and at the base you have a very clean and realistic aniline leather smell. The oud/saffron is not subdued and the pepper is not biting but you will get a strong cardamom. It is mostly linear; you do not need to wait for the leather to materialize. This is the type of leather I've been looking for but in most perfumes it's either muddied with too many layers or it takes hours to come out. If you're looking for complexity or a darker animalic smell this perfume is not the right choice. Because of how bright this smells you will not have trouble finding a time to wear this. It is really unisex unless you think all female perfume has to have five different florals in it.
You can also snag this at a pretty low price right now (around mid-level designer prices), which does not bode well for an '06 release. Apparently people find it too abrasive and are gravitating towards Montale's more saccharine scents. The bottle is pure garbage and is embarrassing. It feels like an empty hairspray bottle and the atomizer barely works. I honestly recommend using a different nozzle to spray it. At full retail a niche should not come in a cheaper bottle than Lalique Lion.

Orz

I love this so much.

Smells like an elegant lether not animalic not too masculine, super classy and elegant spiced up with saffron and cardamom which make the fragrace unisex, a really safe for all occasions in the winter or climate controlled environment if you only do 1 to 2 sparys.
Don’t get scared by the oud in here, can’t smell it in here.

It does not change all that much in the many hours it lasts, very linear.

I personally love it, so classy so good so sexy YES BOTH AT THE SAME TIME .

For thoes who care, this gets compliments from everyone, and no wonder it is really simple and easy to like by everyone and it is pretty versatile regarding age groups.

It's interesting, to me this smells absolutely nothing like Tuscan leather at all. To me it's a fresh super metallic leather scent but I don't like it at all personally. Gave this to my dad. Also Montale sprayers are so itsy bitsy in there distribution

Biziqt

I really really really love this one …. BUT! Its just too much for me - and I love strong fragrances - I may need to try it outdoor setting because I used it and was in my office all day suffocated myself and business partner. I love leather scents and this ones amazing - It does strike me as a more masculine scent I would find this attractive on a man and would love to be around a guy that was wearing this….. for sure outdoors tho. If you love STRONG and forever lasting leather scents this is your winner!

HorlicksB4Bed

This is one of the best leather fragrances on the market imo, and I'm surprised it isn't more talked about.
It smells expensive, lasts a hell of a long time and doesn't break the bank. Often compared to Tuscan Leather, but when compared side to side the differences can easily be detected. Aoud Leather smells fresher and a bit creamier believe it or not.
I loved Tuscan Leather and own a 50ml decant from 2014.
The decant i have is amazing and performance is stellar, however my friend just recently purchased a 30ml of the new formulation of Tuscan Leather and was very disappointed with the performance.
He let me wear it one night, and after 4 hours on my skin it was gone!
So for anybody looking for a great Leather fragrance with with good performance, i would highly recommend Aoud Leather.

Aoud Leather smells a LOT like Ombre Leather EDP to me. On drydown, the TF smells a bit sweeter, while Auod Leather has some sweetness, it maintains more Leather accord later into wear, for me.

I really enjoy Aoud Leather - it is well-balanced, loud but not overly so, long-lasting, and just so delicious to keep smelling through the day.

AoiUsagi

For me this delivers exactly what it promises– oud + leather. No more, no less. It's masculine without feeling mannish, entirely wearable for me as a young woman. I like it both alone and mixed with creamy vanilla/spicy scents.

Aous

very nice wearable blend of oud and leather really hate tuscan leather by tom ford yet they compare it to this

Deelecto

One of Montale’s greatest hits. Very well-blended - you get impressions of a dark leathery core, surrounded by airy wispy softness and a touch of fruity sweetness. Breaking it down, there is a medicinal oud note, but it locks into the citrusy bergamot like two pieces of a puzzle and you can't quite pick them apart, creating a fantasy medicinal fruit wrapped in soft suede.

Sometimes you smell a fragrance, and right away you just know it's for you. That's Aoud Leather for me - just the right balance of sweet/sexy/dark/light. And thank god as the stuff lasts an unchanging eternity, Montale-style, so I'll be wearing these sprays till next week.

Update: trying side-by-side with Tuscan Leather, out of curiosity from all the comparisons here. To me, the similarities are theoretical at best. Tuscan Leather is very smooth, round, safe, clean, neutered. Aoud Leather in comparison is animalistic, raw, full of sharp edges. Tuscan Leather is all repressed superego, Aoud Leather the unsocialized id.

derad

A Tuscan Leather clone with a faint unlisted metallic note that ruins it for me - I dislike metallic/aquatic accords. If you don't mind bloody metallic tones, go for it.

Josu01

This is a beautiful dark, spicy and smoky leather, nicely balanced by saffron and oud. A great combination with amazing results!

This smells masculine, classic, refined, elegant, but at the same time, a bit feral. I love it!

Longevity is more than 12 h on my skin, and while the first blast seems beastly, it dries down to a very nice, unobtrusive, enveloping bubble.

Aoud Leather is lineal. Not for everyone, a definitely "try before you buy". Good for formal or semi formal situations, and for men over 30.

beau_raton_laveur

There are two leather accords I've experienced in my last year of sampling fragrances: a toasted (even burnt) nutty leather (I notice this more in fragrances that list "cashmeran"), and what I think of as a leather jacket smell - almost plasticky in some incidences, if not paired with a sweeter note.

For reference, I smell leather jacket in Tom Ford Ombre Leather EDP and Gucci Guilty Absolute. If memory serves, a bit in Attaquer le Soleil by Etat Libre d'Orange, as well.

I smell burnt hazelnut in Byredo Black Saffron, Memo Italian Leather, Chris Collins Autumn Rhythm, and this.

I have NO idea how people think this smells like Ombre Leather, but I agree that it smells like Black Saffron and more people, votes-wise, seem top think the former is a closer match, so either my nose is overly sensitive to two different leather accords perfumers use, or it's broken, ha. That said, if you have found this difference and like one leather type over another, I think you'll agree this is in the latter category. It's not my preferred type, but it might be yours!

LauraAD

Opens strongly leather, similar to Oud Cuir D'Arabie but without the barnyard scent. This quickly dies down to reveal a fresh, tangy, zesty citrus with warm spice undertones, slightly animalic without being fecal/barnyard, which then lasts for hours. Really nice for cold weather, definitely would be too much in the heat.

Hankenstein

Smells like TF Ombre Leather. I don't get oud, though it's slightly animalic and after many hours, it ends as a powdery skin scent. I used it at Texas Live during 49ers vs Greenbay and several women were coming in close then some hugged me after 49ers Won! This is a magnet for sure. To my overly sensitive cousin's nose (male by the way) it smells like sweat.

ScentedPlaza

Sharp & dense leather oud blend.. If you are a confident female and enjoy experimenting with scents, get this for layering! This potion has that cool & sexy & free spirited vibe. I share this one with my hubby. I love it for layering to umpf up my other fragrances (sooo good mixed with SL Chergui, as well as Molinard's Ambre). If you like Intio "Oud For Greatness", Tom Ford "Ombre Leather" & "Oud" by Acqua di Parma, you will probably enjoy this, too.

_hypnotic_

Citrus and leather, if you spray it on your clothes, citrus will linger for longer, on the skin much less so (at least mine). It's not bad, but i'm not impressed either, but if you like leather, definitely try a sample/decant.
6 or 6.5/10

Returntomonke

In my opinion this is not a clone of Tuscan leather/ La yuqawam or other TL alternatives. It has some similarities, sure, but on my skin the ambergris and bergamot overpower every other note.Don't leat the opening fool you, the strong leather note quickly fades away and you're left with this rather fresh,-slightly leathery-ambergris smell. Almost a blue fragrance with some more depth. Not full bottle worthy for myself, but it can be bought at a bargain price from discounters.

In conclusion-Warm/cool weather appropriate, above average lifespan, ok projection. More freshness than darkness. Leans masculine. If you are looking for a clone of TL, or for some leather bomb look elsewhere, as this is rather tame. 6/10

Loredana0108

What a beautiful fragrance! First of all, I'm not a fan of neither oud nor leather in perfumery, and saffron is also a big "no" for me. Still, the combination is absolutely divine in this compositon. Light, airy, with a hint of cedar and pine ( not listed) in the beginning, but becomes a soft and well-rounded leather fragrance afterwards. It's not harsh nor overpowering, and stays balanced throughout its development. Longevity is top-notch, but stays pretty close to skin. A pleasant surprise from Montale and my next purchase.

Hung vietnam

A alternative to tuscan leather just added aoud is more slight of type of oud. But this weakness is non-fruity note in it and i assume performance is so great as a reward.
This nice for cold weather, cool still good but it's so harsh so watch out for sprays.

juicygreasy

like others have said, the blast of leather in the opening is identical (imo) to tuscan leather, but it evolves differently so they are not the same. this went quite sweet on me, which i don't hate but on me this is almost more feminine-leaning, which makes me question my own nose. got a compliment from a stranger who told me "you smell delicious!!" i purchased a full bottle for a good price and am pleased to have this in my arsenal

Comrade Zagoryanskaya

What I get is a very strong leathery opening followed by moderate but noticeable oud notes; the dry down is slightly sweet and spicy and those parts I like but… The long lasting middle part is difficult for me to appreciate (at least on myself). I guess it’s the excess of zesty, fresh bergamot: in an hour or so it kills off the oud and starts pushing away the leather, in another hour it becomes a dominating scent and from there it lasts and lasts and lasts. (It’s not until after 6 hours that some sweetness and spice begin to come out). This gives the whole composition a too manly man feel to my taste. I do enjoy wearing unisex on a masculine side but this to me feels more like the 80s soap opera kind of masculine (think CC Capwell), which I don’t think I could (or want) to pull off. Overall I think it’s a very nice quality scent, well blended, strong projection, very long lasting and I’m sad that I’ll have to give it a pass. Perhaps my husband will be kind enough to wear this so I could enjoy it from distance. PS Or maybe I should just wait and try it again in winter.
UPD: Husband’s (knows-nothing-about-perfume intellectual introvert) verdict: masculine, not intrusive, ok.

jsweet

Those hoping for something to recapture Tuscan Leather probably won't be pleased with how TL's sweet synthetic raspberry base/drydown is replaced with light, sweet floral and bergamot notes that fade into the background and result in a linear, abrasive drydown of cured leather and pungent, synthetic oud. Nice to my nose but quite harsh and masculine.

For those who have tried Montale's Cuir D'Arabie, this stuff is actually a lot gentler and sweeter, and is missing the nasty barnyard/fecal/bandaid note altogether. I would actually wear this in public compared to Cuir D'Arabie.

AmbuEnak

tuscan leather born 2007
then this aOud leather 2009
and la yuqawam 2012

they are quite similar.. and i love them this is it

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Mvcarreon

In the heat, it’s PURE LEATHER. Nostril burning, throat-hurting leather.

In the cold? An extremely different story. It smells like a leathery Sauvage/Blue Fragrance because of the pepper, bergamot, ambergris. The saffron is a nice touch as well.

Overall, a great introduction to leather-centric scents

Love this one a lot. But strictly in cold weather!

sejohnson77

I was excited for this, but I HATE it.. IDK what I was expecting, but I thought this was a unisex fragrance. Trust me when I say that it is NOT. It’s a very masculine fragrance to my nose and I cannot wear it. Only purchase this if you love leather fragrances.

SeanRowley

A bit disappointed really. I was expecting this to be the typical Montale affair of massive sillage and longevity, its a very quick Leather smell that dissipates into cut green grass, nothing like Ombre Leather or La Yaqawam so either I got a dud bottle or this is just an ok leather smell...shame

drmarsiglia

I have it.. not a beast fragrance, quality is good but it didn't amaze me a lot..
Has a fruity peppery opening to me and later dries down with leather and an almost non recognisable oud
It is a really soft fragrance though I won't suggest it as a main winter fragrance as I bought it for, better maybe for winter Sundays that's it.
If you look for a winter beast mode onesI suggest to go for: Blow Up by Moth & Rabbit or Honey Aoud by Montale I had both in samples and really enjoyed them.

Longevity: 7-8 hrs
Sillage: It sits close to skin.
Gender: Unisex toward male
Price: Ok

I agree, very nice Leather Scent, don't overdo it. I disagree w/ it being like TF Tuscan Leather. I despise that Scent. I do have TF Ombre Leather & I would compare it to that. Still not 100%, but I like that & this one!

oTis102p

To me this is basically suede leather and saffron in about a 60-40 mixture. I do get the Cardamom, Ambergris, and Pepper but these are just seasonings in the leather-saffron soup. Altogether a simple, linear fragrance that IMO will work well for semi-formal occasions. More masculine. Sillage/projection is average to good and longevity is very good. Well done for what it is - there is quality evident - but it is fairly limited as to when/where you will want to wear it and it is not particularly interesting or complex.

HueleAObo

The quality to price ratio is very good if you like this kind of fragrance, unfortunately I found it a little outdated. It smells like old man to be honest.

ProFetta

Absolutely love this

It smells like your grandfather was smoking a cigarette 2 hours ago in his 87’ Regal GNX on a hot summer day and it was marinating into the leather seats (car didn’t have leather seats haha)
I mean this in the best way possible

Oudy , creamy , slightly smoky , slightly sweet , warm

Opening is very animalic , Settles down within 10 minutes

Knightsbridge9

Lovely leather scent with amazing longevity and sillage. Upon initial application, the leather was very strong and raw which kind of repulsed me. A few weeks later I tried it again and fell in love with it on a cold winter night. I do not get much oud like most of the reviews suggest.

Beware as the leather is very strong in this, I can't imagine it being safe in an office or corporate environment.

Update: I sprayed this on my jacket once and still get whiffs of it a month later.

Guerlinade

Beautiful scent if you can get past the first 15 minutes, where I get a loud blast of "generic male fragrance" (think citrus-ozonic-pine) hiding a nice hushed leather accord humming from the back seat with a tiny bit of oud, too.
When head notes finally evaporate, I get patchouli and finally LOTS of leather.
It's a good thing, I like this raw leather accord, reminds me of Tom Ford Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood too, even if it's not overwhelming.
Very nice masculine scent, I can definitely see the right attitude pulling it off splendidly. :)

Savasana

I was really excited to try this because I really love oud, saffron and leather... and I like TF Tuscan Leather, however sadly on my skin this opens with an enormous blast of a generic freshy "men's" fragrances and that note (whatever it is) never goes away - it's like I layered a generic men's fragrance with TL. Perhaps it's the way bergamot and pepper are blended with other notes that throws the whole composition off for me, but for me this is unwearable. I can see where the comparison to Tuscan Leather comes from but as a woman I find this far too 'masculine leaning' to enjoy on myself. On the other hand, I can see a man rocking this any time of the year.

Montale Aoud Leather is Tuscan Leather eau fraiche!

Wwoman

On my skin, this dries down to lots and lots of leather, no saffron (sadness), and very little oud (more sadness). Not a safe blind buy unless you don't mind the end result being 90% leather. Mellows as it ages, but I'm still wishing for some saffron and oud.

Rannek

Sillage and performance is HUGE. I don't understand who votes on moderate.

GustaveTheNose

This is yet another addition to the fruity leather family, typified by TL, la yuqawam, aoud leather, pure leather (merchant of venice), and oud saphir. I have them all in full bottles or original testers, so Im sharing my experience herein. They all share the same backbone despite the claimed difference in note composition.

The difference between all 5 above is the performance mainly and how thick they smell. There might be a minor difference in sweet vs leather strength in each, but to me they are all replicas of each other, regardless of which one preceded the others.

Graded from strong to weak are: TS and la yuqawam, aoud leather, pure leather and oud saphir.

stagename

Bought this blind as a curiosity. I own/owned TF TL and the higher-end version (the 2016) of Ombre leather (Ombre Leather 16). I always preferred OL16 to TL, and Aoud Leather comes closest to the latter. And by close, I mean I can barely tell the difference. I'm not a 'nose' by any chance, but I'm also an experienced fragrance consumer, and I typically am I home with niche perfumers, including some of the more, hum, original ones (e.g., Zoologist). Long story short, if you're looking for an affordable TF OL16 or TL replacement, I'd strongly suggest giving this a shot.

ILikePeeps

Oh wow. This is better than expected actually. If you don't want to spend the dough for Tuscan Leather / C for Men, this is absolutely fine!
It's possible I even prefer this smell over Tuscan Leather.

This is definitely one of my favorites from the montale line. As a woman I find this really sexy on a guy,I also think this is sexy on a woman as I put this on a lot lol I'm not going to compare it to much to Tf TL as I feel it should have it's own review (but it's very close to it lol)
I also think this is similar to santal wood from montale..the salty citrus thing ,to me this smells like a beautiful car interior, smooth and a little sweet ,it also has this salty skin note !! That is why I love it so much more then TL ,it smells like you have spend a Naughty sexy night (that you will definitely regret after!) in a beautiful car thinking Auston Martin! After you both step outside and share a cigarette! Before saying maybe see you again sometime and leaving ....as you walk home you have the smell of salty skin the beautiful leather and the slight smell of smoke ! This is a sexy intense fresh beautiful fragrance that I will always have in my collection. Definitely masculine but who cares about that girls spray away!!

Neviem či ešte niekto. Ja v tom cítim Chanel Allure Homme Sport. Hlavne v top notes ako sa otvára. Vydarený parfum a nie je to ťažká ale svieža vôňa. Od 18+ pre všetky vekové kategórie. Krémové citrusové a jemný nádych kože. Ostatné poznámky vôbec necítim.

Montale Aoud Leather EDP opens with a strong projection of leather and woody notes. The opening is elegant, sophisticated, and intense. The leather and oud are opening prominent notes. The leather found in this fragrance is very polished, dry, natural-smelling, and projecting; similarly, the oud, although noticeable, it is very refined, evocative of fine wood, as opposed to animalic or dark pungent oud. A step behind the leather and oud is the saffron and cardamom. The saffron is a leathery, earthy, and spice note, it blends well with the leather. A little more towards the back is the cardamom, sweet, resinous, spicy, bitter, but not prominent. The ambergris and pepper are support notes, just a whiff. The fragrance is linear, all feature notes come up as soon as the fragrance is applied and continue into the dry down. Once Montale Aoud Leather EDP has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a strong projection, leather, wood, and spicy saffron fragrance. The fragrance feels bold, dense, dry, earthy, elegant, exotic, expensive, heavy, high-quality, intense, leathery, masculine, mature, modern, natural, nicely-blended, polished, refined, warm, woody, and very pleasant.

One of the better Montale's out there. Believe it or not. This one is actually better than Tuscan Leather and Ombre Leather. At least to me it is. Its basically an airier, lighter version of Tuscan Leather without all the sweet cloying ingredients. The ambregris here is what makes this offering fresher, and can easily be an all season juice. I quite enjoy it. Way to go.

ridvancelik245

3 years ago I sniffed
it was a very strong perfume
unfortunately reformule
i bought a new bottle the day before
Attention: There are 2 kinds of montale. France production and international production.
The production of old France was very strong. But it was not as strong as it was formerly. They produced international production recently. International production is already weak and very weak. How did they make this smell? pity!

Aura.hayati

I really don't know why and how (maybe someone can help me), but after 30 minutes this smells like eggplant to me.

Bruceybuii

For me Aoud leather lasts and lasts and up until the 10-12 hour mark shows no signs of slowing down going all out until the very end, it does remind me of ombre leather, the oud and pepper on me gives it an almost ground peanut sort of vibe over the leather.

The Nose that Knows

Just received this today. If you're a big fan of Tom Ford Tuscan Leather and you don't feel like spending that kind of money this is the next best thing. You will not be disappointed. Smells incredible.

Safe for blind Buy.

Vacano

A manly montale??....boy, i must be in luck today. This is a good manly smell, very appealing, very much tuscan leather without the raspberry note and better longevity.

eric.cius

I would be able to tell the difference between Tuscan leather and aoud leather even with a nasty cold.
The leather note in each is identical and that's it.
To keep it simple, Tuscan leather dries down into Givenchy hot Couture, aoud leather dries down into bvlgari omnia.
I'd rather the latter as I often wear omni even though I am a man.
If you want a scent in this flavor, go aqua Di Parma leather

stanky

Let me keep this simple. Montale Aoud Leather gives Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather a run for its money. This has superb longevity on my skin. It literally blew me away with the scent too. I give it a 10/10 rating. It's so lovely as well and probably inches better than the Tom Ford.

vkvie

Aoud Leather by Montale.

Tuscan Leather on my left hand, Aoud Leather on my right hand.
I usually always recognize the difference (even the smallest) between a fragrance and its clone. Here, I can't.
The only difference is that Aoud Leather lasted longer than TL (sorry Tom Ford).

Andy the Frenchy

Aoud Leather is a great leather fragrance (as the name implies). I don't get the oud to be honest.
Should you be looking for a soft saffron/leather/suede fragrance, this is it.
Should you be looking for an animalic one, you may want to go for Montale Aoud Cuir d'Arabie, Dior Leather Oud or PG Arabian Horse instead.

Fall/Spring evenings, 25+

Egoistbing

I dont have TL from Tom Ford. So i dont know anything about the raspberry opening in it.

The smell of leather is intense, with some metallic in the back. I dont get any oud but some sweet or citrus behind the leather too.

Longevity is great for me, and medium with the sillage.

The price is pretty good here in Europe, about € 70 for 100ML from Notino.

gedlive

Wow, I just noticed how the prices have come down.
This has to be one of the best values now.
It is close to Tuscan Leather, also in quality and performance.

There are deals for $65. on eBay for 3.4 ounce.

This is a bit more unisex, as TL is more raw and masculine.
The safron makes this quite classy for a guy, but also makes it more atractive for woman, perhaps.

Jareth

This is very similar to TL, minus the raspberry opening, but way more saffron after one minute. The following 30 minutes then feel a bit more 'rounded' to me, I think from the ambergris. Tuscan Leather seems to be dryer, flatter and slightly smokier to me. This one has more substance. In fact, although TL has a drydown that is so 'flat' it actually gets a bit boring and aromchemically to me, I still prefer TL, if only for the first 30 to 60 minutes of heaven. (Must try the new TL Intense flanker. Come on Tommy, make it a good one.)

Sorry, digression, I like this Montale but don't love it. That raspberry and leather combo is a tough act to follow, and for me the saffron doesn't quite do the same for me.

Oldspice

I like Aoud Leather. As with some other Montale Aoud offerings, there's no oud. A very long lasting leather scent. It seems in the ballpark of similarity to Tom Ford Ombre Leather to me. My wife doesn't like Ombre Leather at all but complimented me when I wore the Montale. I like them both.

I wore this to work and had two coworkers say "It smells like cigarette smoke in here" and mentioned they didn't smell it before I walked in. I don't smoke by the way. So this is perhaps not a safe work and/or close quarters scent. Few Montales are though.

mapache

TF Tuscan Leather....NO way Jose. TF Ombre Leather 2018..yeah,a little resemblance. This Montale has spicy citrus...no raspberry. The smokiness/metallicness is present. The leather comes off as smooth and light..leaning "suedey". This all works very well together in this blend. So, I find this in the "family" or "vibe" of the above mentioned fragrances, but IMO, not a clone/dupe of them. Aoud Leather has it's own personality. Very good scent !!!

This is an incredibly nice spicy-leather scent with a generous helping of saffron and ambergris. Very potent opening. The initial citrus accord is very bitterish-spicy but very short lived so it's just fine. Black Pepper and Saffron are the two notes that dominate the life of this scent, in incredible depth. It doesn't smell exactly the same all the way. Different shades emerge as time goes by. The cardamom, something I'm not usually fond of, brings great depth here to the other spices ( I get traces of cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf) and the saffron accord. The leather here is very soft and smooth. Very polished and subtle (atleast on my skin). There's also a boozy vibe to the whole thing that, together with saffron, pepper, & leather kinda reminds me of Bentley Intense. (It is quite similar in terms of the overall vibe.) And beneath all this is, what, to me, feels like, really good quality Ambergris. It's salty, slightly sweet, with some ambery-floral nuances. And finally, the Oud. It's extremely subtle here. Not at all the dominant note. Just something like a catalyst of sorts, added to bring out certain facets in the other elements. It's there - slightly medicinal and dark - but more like a filter added in post-production. It just adds a certain vibe to the main theme. Projection, sillage, and longevity are all on the higher side.

All in all, beautiful. An incredibly nice spicy-leather scent with great depth and a classy vibe.

Fenrir088

My initial reaction to this fragrance reminded me of my reaction to Original Vetiver from Creed. Where's the vetiver? Here it's "Where's the oud?" All I smell is bitter green bergamot and leather. I don't get any spices or any of the other notes, this was a huge disappointment. I can see the comparison to Tuscan leather, but TL is a masterpiece with beautiful contrasting notes that give it that wow factor. Aoud leather is boring and flat. Not much else to say. Pass.

Aplus

I’m playing around with leather fragrances right now. I have Aoud Leather, Ombre Leather(2018), Tuscan Leather and Uncomprimising Sohan (not a real leather) on right now. Cycling amongst them I likely have some anosmia going on but I do not believe that the Montale smells like the TF fragrances very much at all. I also have had a couple of noses smell me and the consensus appears to be that that on my skin the Montale is the sweetest and surprisingly the least leather like. The Ombre Leather is the most authentic leather smell to my nose and the most masculine of the three.

Molko

My first niche perfume, but I'm not fond of it, I think I thought/imagined too much about this juice and brand. Earlier I tried some Montale samples and I didn't like them, I smelled too much oud and were old fashioned, but now I bought a full bottle from Aoud Leather, because I like leather smell.
Interesting that this perfume is not cloying, fresh, oily, I can smell smoky oud-leather-wood with a touch of scratched medicinal rose (I know that doesn't contain, maybe the saffron), little bit smells like an oriental incense, not a modern scent, but it's not difficult to wear. On me the projection is close to the skin quickly, longevity about 6-8 hours in Summer.

My box says 3.4 Fl.oz, however the bottle says 3 1/3, is it fine?

Regular_dude

I know Tuscan Leather has the raspberry note in the opening and this supposedly doesn't, but I do think that it has a sweetness very similar to Mont Blanc Individuel and people seem to agree that Mont Blanc has as very prominent raspberry note, so I don't know. What is most puzzling to me about this fragrance is the striking resemblance to Cool Water for women. That one also has a raspberry note, so maybe it's not so far fetched. I would very much like to hear other people's opinion about this matter though.

twiggy3634

Like everyone else, I do get the similarities to Tuscan Leather, but there is one thing about Aoud Leather that is noticeably different. Instead of TL's famous leather/raspberry combo, we get leather/bergamot instead. And I actually prefer this. Leather fragrances can be really heavy or even sometimes cloying, but the citrus here really brightens things up, making it somewhat lighter and clean, rather than being dark and smoky. Performance on this one is outstanding, I get 12 hrs easily with two sprays, so go easy on the sprayer. Overall, a very enjoyable leather scent and more versatile and wearable than Tuscan Leather.

Tazahr

Very similar to TF Tuscan Leather. Almost identical But the fruity/raspberry note of TF is replaced here by citruses.

This has monster longevity and If you spray it in a room you need a blower to clear the sillage. It just sticks everywhere and stay.

Too powerfull for me and I had to give it away.

Fragrance -Aoud Leather Montale
Bottle from - 2015

I personally like leather fragrances. For some reason Aoud Leather reminds me of a elegant and kind knight warrior,if that makes any sense.
This is Pierre Montale’s stylish, sensual, sophisticated and graceful take on a classic leather scent with a bit citrusy opening notes of bergamot, quickly followed by warm and hot spices with dominant saffron in the middle that give way to a rich, woody and deep blend of warm and a bit soft leather and light oud with a wisper of ambergris in the drydown. It has similarities to Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford, but Aoud Leather is more spicy, less sweet and less fruity than TL.It is also similar to C for Men by Clive Christian,Godolphin by Parfums de Marly, golden Boy by Dueto and Colonia Leather by Acqua di Parma.

Longevity - 10/10(12+ hours)
Silage/Projection - 9,5/10(heavy projection and silage for the first 3-4 hours)
Weather - best in early spring, autumn and winter.
Age - 25+
Compliments - 7/10
Scent - 8,5/10

Main notes according to me - leather, oud, saffron, bergamot, spices.

The drydown is a bit spicy and warm and I get some -leather,oud,spices and ambergris.

Emotions -elegant knight warrior,sophisticated,stylish, warm,dark vibe elegance,rich,sensual.

Occasion -perfect for special occasions, formal events and night out.

bwieler21

This stuff is BEAST MODE. It smells very close to Tuscan Leather. Although once the leather fades it is very fruity, but this only happens after about 12 hrs or so. After the leather fades it is a bit feminine. Don't let that discourage you though, this is a great fragrance. In my opinion it is only unisex once the leather fades, before that it is a more masculine fragrance.

trm1984

TF Tuscan Leather fans might want to pick this one up if Tuscan Leather is falling out of your budget. This has got a lot of similarities and whilst not 100% a clone, I'd say this shares a good 80% similarity and can easily pass for TF Tuscan Leather on a few sniffs.

I do like this scent and it's growing on me. The saffron/fruity note which is similar in TF TL is hard for me to get past at first but as this dries down you begin to get a really nice rich leather and dry wood/oud....what I like about this fragrance is that this doesn't have the standard rubber, tarry, syntehtic, Oud note that so many of their Aoud line have (Dark Aoud, Black Aoud, Nepal Aoud, etc)

It's a very pleasant fragrance and I keep going back for sniffs trying to discern if this is really for me....I think I really do like it and it would be a nice addition to my collection because it's something different and something I can wear on different occasions.

Mando

I adore Tuscan Leather TF and I hope I like this scent. I am so at odds with purchasing TF Tuscan Leather because it's just too pricey to purchase arbitrarily. I had Tuscan Leather once and sold it foolishly. I hope if I do repurchase it, I won't let that happen again!

Jewelpaq

On my skin, this is the best leather fragrance along with Tom Ford "Tuscan Leather" they both run neck to neck, depending on my mood and evening. I do smell the difference. AL is more fruitier and TL has more raspberry. But either do the same job. TL does last a little longer on my skin.
Rasasi does not come into the playing field with me. Sorry to their fans.
Golden Boy is good, but in the shadow.
I have 2 back up bottles of Aoud Leather as I never, ever want to run out of this juice that clings to my skin, grabbing the attention of the women around me. That is what I like, along with enjoying the smell myself.

TonyAKAMrClean

Tuscan Leather "Aqua".

This is only slightly similar to Tuscan Leather, it's absolutely its own scent. This is the same leather and saffron notes, but no suede or raspberry, replaced instead by sharp, citrusy bergamot and oud.

Although it's strong, this is not as heavy as Tuscan Leather. The added citrus causes the scent to be brighter and the leather to be a bit more rubbery, but not so much so as Fahrenheit, or anything.

Tom Ford could have released this scent himself as "Tuscan Leather Aqua" and not a single soul would have questioned it, but I actually rather respect that this is NOT a clone! It smells great and stands on its own merits.

Did I mention this is strong?! Wow!

Update: After purchasing a full bottle at a price I just couldn't refuse ($76) I will also add that I've received NUMEROUS compliments on this one! Personally, I usually prefer Tuscan Leather to this, however it seems that others tend to prefer the smell of Aoud Leather on me. It's a crowd pleaser! Everyone who's compared this to Tuscan Leather has told me that this one fits my personality better. But, everyone is different and I still love Tuscan Leather equally.

Also - When you buy a bottle, don't be surprised if it feels like it's half empty. It took comparing the bottle to every other bottle in my collection before I realized that as small as the bottle is, the bottle itself would probably hold more than 5 ounces, so yes, it isn't completely full, but it is 3.4oz of liquid inside.

asgeirn

Yes yes yes! Agree a 110% with @adamthompson below, this is a beauty! and honestly, i can't tell the difference between TF's TL and this.

If I had to pick, I'd go with this one, no doubt!

A classic male scent; it makes you feel like you're the alpha male of the pack!

adamthompson06

I prefer this scent over many of the other oud based fragrances because it doesn't have rose mixed in. Fragrance has no gender but this one definitely leans more towards what you'd consider masculine scents to smell like. Pierre Montale certainly knows his oud!

deruitem

If you know Tuscan Leather from Tom Ford you will know what this smells like. Its a sweet fruity leather with a dusty smoky background. I am pretty sure a trained nose could tell them apart side by side. I highly doubt that anyone could tell the difference from you wearing it. Meaning if you are wearing this and you tell someone its TL they would not know the difference.

Cost
Can be found for $103 for 100ml. The same size bottle of TL is $264 from the same site. I don't see why you would buy TL

So far its STRONG. Very close to TL performance from what I can tell.

I did a small swipe yesterday and had the kids smell it. My oldest just said she loved it. Several times actually. My little one whom has a pretty good nose for scents and can smell very well told me I smell like fruit and cigarettes (Grammy is a smoker). But she liked it.

It is not a safe blind buy so test it first. I would recommend if you like TL give this a shot!

mm83

@the_badger.. i agree with you. The synthetic harsh tone puts me off. I cant wear my AL coz of this note. Dissapointed!

the_badger

There is something harsh and synthetic about AL that makes it off-putting. It was also because of this that I avoided TF TL for so long. When I finally got a decant of TL, I was surprised of how soft and smooth it was, compared to the bitter and harsh AL. Even if they are 95% similar, it only takes 5% to ruin it.

Pranav

The fragrance is sharp and not so welcoming. On my skin Agarwood Oud oil is pretty prominent. I was expecting Leather Oud to be little softer(after reading reviews), but it is not. It fragrance is very sharp for initial few hours. It is not for the young crowd. It is definitely for someone 40+ men(nowhere near being a unisex frag, not good for even 90+ grandma's).To me Montales smell like local cheap agarwood attar oil blending available in India. Sharp, in face & cheap.

The initial opening was pleasing for few seconds but right after that Oud became prominent with harsh smokey leather. I can't sense any notes due to the dominance of the Oud. And yes it is mildly smokey, feels like frankincense burning in the background. I do not get any fruitiness or any other notes mentioned. I do not find it to be smooth/soft/approachable.But, one might get compliments(sarcastic ones) for being loud in face, which Montales are good at. I liked the absolute dry down when it became skin scent and the way my skin was smelling.
Longevity average on skin with 6-8 hours on me. And silage is good for first 3-4 hours. The performance is not as good as Black Aoud.
I find it to be overrated.

knoxknoll777

Would like to sell this one. Just doesn't work well on me.
Message me if interested.

landshark321

Montale Aoud Leather is not one of the house's special or interesting scents, in my opinion, as it is essentially a mix of leather, oud, and saffron, but not even nearly as interesting as that mixture might lead one to believe.

Its one redeeming quality might be that it's safe, as far as oud- and leather-dominant fragrances go, not terribly daring or likely to offend.

Aoud Cuir d'Arabie is a much more interesting leather offering from the house of Montale, so I'd surely suggest that over Aoud Leather.

Cauda Pavonis

A surprisingly polite and wearable leather/oud. There's a fruity, aquatic note, especially in the opening, that tones down the animalic quality turning this into a sleek, refined, men's club leather. I've seen some comparisons with Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather; I can see some similarities as both are refined, slightly fruity leathers but the leather in the Montale is much more sharp and in-your-face. It has a bit of a smoky, bitter, ashtray quality that some may dislike (I'm guessing this is from the oud) - I personally enjoy it but it's not for everyone. AL also has a pronounced, modern, aquatic quality which I don't remember from TL. All in all, I'd say this was a fairly wearable leather, suitable for the office if your style tends toward the slightly outre. A nice smoky, fruity leather.

CB23

I hate Tuscan leather, this is a similar smell but much nicer and more wearable

Cherry_Darling

Very nice smooth leather and aoud, im not getting much spice though and in my opinion this is a very dry scent in that there is barely any sweetness. Which is fine some like that though I prefer a bit of sweet. It's very very good, crisp clean fresh leather woodsy I just wish it were that tiny touch sweeter.

Since I can't stand the Tuscan Leather after 40 mins, I had to try every fragrance that smelt like Tuscan Leather because Tuscan Leather's opening is one of the BEST openings ever.

Aoud Leather was a big suprize.

Watery Leather.

Aoud Leather opens up very close to Tuscan Leather. It has leather and saffron at the opening with slightly fruity wibe. Leather is much more watery comparing to Tuscan Leather's opening. Leather is very smooth and doesn't disturb. Olibanum note that gives the smoke to Tuscan Leather isn't that prominent here which makes it more wearable for me.

Aoud Leather will last over 16 hours on skin and over a week on cloths. It is an amazing fragrance.

GustaveTheNose

I can't compare this to TL as I don't have it to hand so I will stick to describing the notes I can smell (I remember they smell very similar but cant compare them simultaneously)
It's a linear perfume that remains almost the same throughout. It has some sweet gourmand smell, ambergris and of course leather. I can't smell any spices or citrus as mentioned in the notes above. Certainly no oud in any of the notes.

Sillage and longevity are excellent like the rest of montale, so 2-3 spritz max.

gedlive

A lot has been said, so I would just like to ad some comparison comments to Tuscan Leather.
I have a small decant of Tuscan Leather. I like the smell, but is not wearable or versatile enough for me to pay the high price so I got a good deal on ebay for Aoud Leather.

When I first spritzed it on, I thought, smells just like Tuscan Leather. Like a photograph of someone looks just like the image of the real person.
The thing I liked most about Tuscan Leather is how rich and oily and intense all the notes are. With Aoud Leather, you get the true image of Tuscan Leather, but missing much of the richness. The scent is 90% same as TL, the richness is 75% of TL, price 30% of TL.

It is a good quality clone of TL. The difference is like the vintage Bel Ami from 1986, and the 2006 version of Bel Ami, it's mostly richness and intensity being the difference.

Update: I gave this a better wearing, and I like wearing it more than Tuscan Leather. TL has that wow factor that many TF Private Blends have, but Aoud Leather is more versatile, comfortable, cozy.
It starts off like TL, but then gets more like "Cuirs" leather and oud frag, with some green herbal notes. I do pick up the Oud more in Aoud Leather than TL, it just subtly ads to the fragrance and makes it more interesting, pleasing.
Maybe it is the exceptional green Cardomom that I am picking up here, more pronounced here than with TL.

I guess it's the green cardomon, but something makes it slightly gourmand, something smells like hops or barley, a beer kind of smell. This beer like smell, or reminds me of bread, makes the fragrance comfortable and cozy. It lightens up a somewhat rich balsamic Oriental. It reminds me of Fortis in that way.

You can try spraying generously with this one, it doesn't become cloying, but the quality notes and blending allow you to turn up the volume, and get a fuller effect.

Like Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather, but fresher, lighter, & kind of soapier, believe it or not.

Of course, comes with the classic atomic-bomb-strength performance in term of sillage & longevity.

Really good leather scent, one of the best I've smelled, to me even better than Tuscan Leather, this one is less sweet, a bit more on the masculine side to my nose.

Solid Stuff

I wasn't sure what to expect, given all the polarising reviews that Montale gets, when I bought this one. A lot of the positive reviews were from people whose reviews I trust and understand. And based on that alone, pretty much like most times, I jumped on this one. And boy was I surprised!

Straight to the point- this is a spicy-leather scent with a generous helping of saffron and ambergris. A very potent opening that will easily offend people who are not into these types of perfumes. The initial citrus accord is very bitter-ish-spicy but very short lived so it's just fine. Black Pepper and Saffron are the two notes that dominate the life of this scent, with quite incredible depth. Very polished and subtle (at least on my skin).

Nice and seemingly titillating reviews I'm getting about this Montale product! But is it a cologne one could blind buy? I understand it's really long lasting and its oft comparisms with Tuscan Leather (by Tom Ford) is amping up my olfactory curiosity! I'll definitely give this a try! Soon!

iman_hamishe_payiz

An Addictive Rough Smell

I cannot accept the claim that it's super synthetic. the representation of oud in fragrance world is always medicinal/synthetic as far as my limited experience goes, and the overall synthetic level of Oud Leather is totally acceptable for me.

if you don't like the raspberry in Tuscan Leather and it's too expensive for you (though no doubt it's a masterpiece)...
if you find GoldenBoy harsh...
if Godolphin is weak....

Oud Leather is the answer.

Dark
Powerful Projection
Great Longevity
Great value for the money

100rab

A very strong scent and long lasting- it lasts for over 24 hours on my skin !
However, I found the smell rather chemical for the first hour or so. If you can wait past that time, it develops into something smooth and nice. Not much oud still but for those who love sweet and long lasting, this is the ideal fragrance.

micavana

This is another scent that I may be a little biased with as I do like MOST, but not ALL of the Montale Paris line. I know that the house of Montale Paris catches a lot of flack, but I have to respectfully disagree. Montale Paris has almost always has great projection and longevity on my skin, which makes it a natural favorite house of mine.

Now on to Aoud Leather...

This one gets compared to Tom Ford Tuscan Leather a lot. It is the same as TL? No. It is similar? Yes.

The initial spray fills the room with a bright, happy, velvety, warm and inviting sensation, like standing in an open field basking in the rays of the golden afternoon sun.

AL is a smooth, sweet, luxurious, classy, masculine and classy leathery wood scent with a bit of spice and a touch of floral to it. While I do get a bit of Oud, it is blend in and not overpowering. I don't get a fruit scent on my skin as others have decried.

I easily get 12+ hours on my skin with great projection.

Bottom line: If you like Montale Paris or Leather scents like Tuscan Leather and Golden Boy, you should try this one. If you are looking for a strong Oud, there are other fragrances you should look at.

chyprespace

Smells cold to me, like a dance floor smoked up with dry ice, sweet, leathery, and deeply unfriendly and somewhat synthetic. One could call it raw and masculine, but it is missing the unwashed musky warmth of raw masculinity. This is more like driving in a new Ferrari alone at night, wondering why that does not make life any more joyful. But I am old-fashioned.

arefuthescroob

So so. Didn't like it.

morkant

I feel like I've come a long way when it comes to honing my taste and appreciation of fragrance, but Aoud Leather resists any intelligent description by me:

"OMG ITS SO GOOOOD!!!1"

That's my final verdict and I'm sticking to it.

(Also it's better than that other one by Mr. Ford, more supple and `rounder`, lasts longer too)

Zeyad

This is between Tuscan leather and Black Saffron. It is smoky like Tuscan leather but not as much sour, that sourness that simulate the smell of old leather; better to me. It is also sweeter.

Traian

One of the best Montale's by far (for my age 24). Very nice made leather fruity sweet scent. It's similar to Tuscan Leather, but better in my opinion. Has a unisex vibe in it (so it's good for the ladies too). I recommend it more for the clubbing/nights out.

YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS MONTALE!

the_badger

This is anything but long lasting. Lasted about 30 min and its not my nose either. I do a longevity test with all my frags where I spray on a piece of cloth and every now and then I would walk into the room and sense the smell. There are perfumes that are very sneaky that I don't smell it on myself but when I do this test, they would remain for hours and hours. Leather Aoud is not one of them.

Silent.Dragon

Not quite Tuscan leather. Yes, very similar, especially the opening. To me major differences: Fruity note and texture. I found this to be more sharp (i.e. burns my nose) on initial sniff. I also found the fruity note to be more pronounced than the raspberry note in TFTL. I thought longevity and sillage were poor for me, however, late in the day at work colleagues were still complementing. So, I don't get to enjoy as long as TFTL, but everyone around me does! I recommend this to anyone who owns TFTL. Different enough to enjoy, similar enough to be a less risky blind buy.

kanak

One of the best leather frags ever. wonderful nuanced combination of leather, oud and saffron notes with hints of citrus. Great projection and longevity like most Montales, 2 sprays to the chest easily lasts 8 hours plus. I love Tuscan leather but I personally prefer the saffron and leather combo a bit more to the raspberry and leather combo, seems more of a natural fit. This is right up there with my favorite leathers, TL, ADP Colonia leather, Dueto Golden Boy, and PDM Godolphin but from a price to performance ratio, beats them all hands down. If you are on a tight budget, this is the one to get. you can pick up a tester online for about 50$ and the bottle will last you a long time as you need very little of this juice to last all day. Just fantastic. love it all the way. 9/10

PS
There is a slight difference between the Montale Paris and International versions. The international version has a stronger, sweeter, raspberry like note in the opening which the Paris version does not. After half an hour, they are similar although I think the saffron note in the Paris version is a bit more pronounced as well. They were both wafting off me strongly even after 8 hours with 2 sprays so longevity is not an issue. Either one is worth getting.

colombianscents

Great fragrance !! I own a bottle of this and it's basically Tuscan Leather with a citrus note on top, giving it a little more versatility in my opinion.

kimbola

i think i got a fake one mine does not project werry well 8 sprays and its still close to the skin

the scent seems to be right though by like watered down alot.

to bad first fake scent i ever bought from bulgaria privat seller on ebay.

Vlud

This is a very authentic masculine leather. A really great composition by Montale. A must try for any leather lover!
Awesome performance in Montale style.

Ozymandias86

After testing countless Montale "Paris" fragrances at a speciality Fragrance store in Beverly Hills, I bit the bullet on the 3.4 ounce of the Oud Leather. I am so happy I did. Very masculine, and powerful scent. Lasts FOREVER on my skin. It's been 8 hours and it still smells strong on me. I've gotten 2 compliments the first day I purchased it as well.

Very happy right now I chose this. It was a close tie between OUD MUSK,RED OUD AND OUD Leather. I went ahead and chose OUD Leather and am very happy about my choice. I wonder what my next Montale fragrance will be. I'm a big fan! Happy!

So

Fine leather, like a new pair of gloves (NOT the horse-saddle-like smell). I love it and I hardly can wait to feel it on my husband's skin. I perceive it more like a men perfume.
I really think is one of the best perfumes I ever met.

Deefit

Genvy is actually quite right in what he said, I have experienced the same and had an incident with probably the same seller as well. While the scent is similar to Tuscan Leather at first, it soon strays a little from that path into something more spicy. But as Genvy noted, the Montale International Design version loses it's moderately strong projection within about 2 hours.

Nope, bought them from the same seller as you for 50 each ;)

The same vindictive, insane seller who below wrongfully accused me of being paid by Montale Paris in his unmistakable broken English.

Check your nose if you think the two versions are the same. Even my noob friends can tell the difference.

psebi101

Quite bright and sweet at the start. Sweet and spicy, not fruity. The leather is smoky and dry, similar to the one in TF Tuscan Leather, Acqua di Parma Leather and YSL Noble Leather. To me, Aoud Leather has two phases: the first 8-10 hours when it's a sweet leathery combination and the next 10-12 hours when it's a sweet woody spicy skin scent. In my opinion, if it would have stopped after the leather fades, it would have been better. The projection is medium, but the longevity is beastly. Overall it's nice, somehow in between the three mentioned above which are far better than Montale's offering. I'd say it's unisex; too sweet to be masculine and too leathery to be feminine.

Scent: 7/10
Longevity: 10/10
Projection: 7/10

Don't just wonder about this one. It's awesome juice! All the other reviews say how it's like Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather is true. This stuff is magical and alluring. Do what it takes to get a sample, however I would warn you that you might rnd up buying some. It's addicting, very. I've tried Clive Christian "C"... It's closer to that fragrance to me than Tuscan leather. So, here you have a high quality "leather" fragrance at a fraction of the costs than two well done expensive leathers, really, it's an easy decision. I tried this and Clive C one on each wrist and there is not a huge departure from one ore the other. Even in dry down they stay very close. Yeah, I bought a bottle and that "guilt free"! ;-D

Update:
Longevity is a beast. I put two spritzes on in the morning and 15 hrs later I showered and it is still lingering a bit. Really, Montale fragrances are strong and long lasting overall. This one always chimes in to me clearly as a winner in the leather category. This stuff never gets old. I love it !

سلام آقای وظیفه. اگر عطر رو دارید من اونو میخوام.

Pare159

This has been reformed. They took coriander out. New reform is a TL clone. Bring the old formulation back.

MonsieurDeBanane

This is such an attractive formula. Delicious, powerful. On application you get the whole scent at once: dreamy, masculine. After 3 hours the leather is gone and the warm ambergris remains for up to two days.
I agree with other reviews that this resembles Tuscan Leather, but instead of the sickly-sweet raspberry accord, something magical.

mihirsurti

Like for how long will this stay on my clothes with a beast projection?

kıvanç.ekinciler

Far better than Tuscan Leather in terms of longevity, projection and also smell.

Halfforgotten

Personaly this was waaay too feminine, in a vintage way also. But if you like your leather scent nice and gentle try it. I dont.

genvy

Yes, very much like Tuscan Leather. Opening is a little off, but the rest of the fragrance is basically the same. No raspberry, no thyme, no suede, but super super close.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you get the Montale Parfums version. The Montale International Design version is dramatically weaker, and begins to fizzle out within the first couple hours. You can tell it's Montale International Design because the packaging is missing the bottle size (3.4oz, for example) underneath the name. The bottle shown in the picture above is Montale Parfums. My Montale International Design bottle says Montale Paris on the packaging, but on the back of the box it lists their name and their website (which is currently just a parked domain)

Be careful!

I get Tuscan Leather, watered down with the addition of something fresh/herbal like coriander. Very similar to the coriander note in Gucci Rush and an aquatic note which reminds me of Bvlgari Aqva Marine. I'm really enjoying this.

srt33

this Montale and Clive Christian C are always thrown in there among the others (Dueto Golden Boy, Mark Birley Charles St, Parfums de Marley Goldophin), but these two to me are slightly similar, but ultimately are different than the others, reason being oud. C is definitely better than Aoud Leather, though Aoud Leather lasts all day. Check that, lasted two days, despite showering and taking on and off of lab gloves. the leather is definitely there, but the oud-saffron combo is what I get most. there is also bergamot in there that comes and goes throughout. I kind of got sick of it after a while to be completely honest. C is definitely better, but C hasn't swayed me enough to buy a bottle just yet.

ParfumFetiche

This review is based on a carded sample. I recently just sampled Golden Boy by Dueto Parfums and I would say they are 99% identical. I don't really pick up any oud here. To my untrained nose it's basically a sweet leather saffron scent. It has good projection and longevity on my skin.

lhollingdrake

Surprisingly sweet. When will someone have the guts to make a leather fragrance that doesn't add fruit or flowers to sweeten it. I want a leather that's smokey and salty and isn't prettied up. Please?

BlueMoon

TAXI CAB

Initially this was so strikingly leather - I couldn't get over how a fragrance could pull that off so successfully.
And I can see how those who enjoy a 'real' leather would really go for this.

However, on my skin, after about an hour, I started sniffing a leather with a kind of soured sweat.
Very similar to getting into an older NYC Taxi Cab with a driver whose been at it for over 12 hours.

Perhaps some may find this sexy - I just couldn't wait to pay my fare and take the bus.

wesleyhclark

A wonderful, deeply aromatic scent - the oud puts it over the top and lends a woody, ever so slightly medicinal (but medicinal in a good way) note. But I'm not sure whether I like this more as a leather scent or as an oud scent - it's both at the same time. A skilful mix and one of the best oud scents I've ever tried.

Yes, it reminds me of Tuscan Leather.

londoner20

From my first Montale (Black Aoud) to my latest, it's been 4 years. Back then I sampled Aoud Leather and liked it. A lot. But naturally I found myself comparing it to Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather. Which, I loved.

The latter always stood out as a sweeter more glamorous leather. Something perhaps a little subdued with a hint of femininity. Wearable, with the ability to slip under the radar, yet draw attention from those in close presence.

On recent trips to the Middle East I have been close to buying Aoud Leather, yet each and every time backed out thinking I'd rather have Tom Ford's version. I tried to love it, tried to be biased in it's favour, but always failed.

Until now.

I realised this has important qualities that Tuscan Leather doesn't. It's dense, velvety, warm and has a raw dirty feel to it. It took me so long to figure it out, but this is exactly what I want from a masculine leather scent.

The oud and saffron combined add magnificent depth and character, which raises this high above other leather scents.

Luckily for me, it's longevity is like the English winter, and fittingly suited for it too.

nonsisa

It's not the same as Tuscan Leather but it pretty much reminds me of it. Similar vibe.

If you're looking for a fragrance built around leather then you need to check out these two.

wahaboooh

can i wear this perfume on summer at night ?

missdeeblue

One of the few Montales thats definately 'men only' Which is a good thing! Us ladies are far too spoiled anyway regarding fragrance sharing. The only way I can describe it -- Think of putting your new leather jacket over the shoulders of your date at the end of an evening because she's chilly. Then the following day you grab the same jacket and you can smell a slight powdery sweetness that is her frag mixed into your leather. not much, but just enough to soften the leather edge.

vergil_s

Well this fragrance is similar to Tom Ford : Tuscan Leather but they have big difference in notes that divide them to two separate perfume.
In Tuscan leather we have sweet note of raspberry and floral note of jasmin in background combine with strong scent of leather and woods.
But in here sweet and floral notes replace by spicy notes of pepper and cardamom and fresh scent of bergamot in opening and then we have beautiful blend of smoky leather by touch of oud and warm amber.
And in Both of them we have dominant note of saffron.
Very strong ( But not heady and intense) and in my opinion masculine.
I can't imagine a women wear this perfume.
And it is appropriate for someone who didnot like sweet note of Tuscan Leather.
But I like both of them.
One of the best Montale's perfume.
Great projection and Longevity.

temporal

This well structured fragrance has it's own character, and interacts well even with pale and thin skin. It is intensive and vivid, but not heavy.

The opening is clean and lightly spicy, and development into warm phase brings almost tactile feeling of suede. On my skin in a couple of hours it turns into sweet yet fresh scent.

I approached Aoud Leather for several times, searching for the fragrance for myself, but this one seems to fit a man (charismatic, cheerful and smart person) in a better way.

Marciu

That's the first Montale fragrance that I own. And I have to say, I'm impressed.

I love smell of leather generally, also smell of leather in perfumes. This one is definitely and absolutely the best leather fragrance that I've ever tested.

When I wear it, I feel like wearing a new, fresh-made leather jacket. I also feel oud, but it's not the sweet oud that I know(e.g. from M7 and M7 Oud Absolu), oh no. This one is absolutely a "dry" one. Addition of pepper makes it more interesting to my nose.

I would classify it as unisex, but it fits men better, IMO. It smells best in cold weather, good for fall and winter.

Because it's a heavy perfume, 1 or max. 2 sprays are enough. Its projection is crazy, it fills the whole room when I walk in, I'm not joking! Longevity is huge - 12 to 20 hours.

It's not cheap, but I think it is worth its price.

هل يصلح للصيف ؟!؟

p.bennett

Ilove leather fragrances and l have owned a lot of Leather fragrances Eg; Like Aramis, Kouros etc. But nothing comes close to Tom Ford's Tuscany Leather which is beautifully made. The intensity of the leather is phenominal and the longivity is 12hrs+. I just bought Montale Leather and infact it is almost the same but fruiter. This is a masterpiece. Thumbs-up on this one.

Shahz

I would describe this as a sweet creamy leathery scent, with notes of saffron and oud. The Saffron is dominant.

Be warned: It is very strong. If not used sparingly it may end up becoming a nuisance and may even induce a headache. One very short pump at the base of the throat or an even shorter one at either side of the neck.

UPDATE: Recently acquired a decant of Tom Ford Private Blend: Tuscan Leather.

These two smell almost identical.

id

pure expensive leather bag or gloves with an accord of saffron and agar wood. Not sharp or smoky, but intense and pleasant smell at least for my nose.Nice and long lasting, but I'd buy something else, like Cuir Ottoman or Cuir Amethyste. After the opening it stays too leathery and linear on my skin. I just dont like saffron to be so loud.

Migotka

Aoud is not a note I am very familiar with, and so in Montale as a brand. The sales assistant recommended this one as a good way to start with getting to know more about both.

It is very woody-leathery. It is not the leather I know from Hermes fragrances (posh and elegant), or Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (elegant but wild). The leather here is strong, peppery with a big dose of saffron, and, of course, agarwood. I would classify it as an 'exotic leather', something you would bye at a stall in Africa, rather than in an European store.

It has its charm, but it does not tick with me. It is beautiful, but for me, too harsh and spicy for me too wear. For the lovers longetivity would be a huge plus- it lasts a long while on the skin.

alfarom

I had great expectations on Aoud Leather but they've been only patrially satisfied. I approached this fragrance thinking about a sort of improvement on the bold animalic structure of Aoud Cuir D'Arabie, but wat I smelled was a polished and somehow week smoky leather. The oud is barely perceptible and the leather is almost left alone with the exception of some citrus in the opening and the usual Montale's musky/ambery base.

The overall effect is quite enjoyable but not much interesting. Lasting power is among the weekest in the Montale's Aoud range.

Rating: 6-6.5/10

nonnative

I didn't like the opening, the heart, the drydown of this Montale. Sorry but for me it has not the quality and complexity of a niche frag. Strong and real leather smell, but otherwise a disappointment.

Helsinki

Looking for leather? You got it.

Very skillfully crafted. One of those perfumes that make me wonder the subtle art of perfumery. A small differing in the perfume's dosing proportions could make the LEATHER go away.

Just leather. What a delight!

Unfortunately, this turns sweet on my skin after half an hour.. I should spray it on hair or fabric.

All in all, it's a great linearic scent.

adrienn99

smells like pure leather to me.

could be a turn-on a man wearing it therefore i am not sure this meant for me.

Catbiscuit

As the inaugral reviewer of this scent I feel like I should be all insightful and stuff. Unfortunately, Aoud Leather doesn't give me much to work with.

Despite the notes involved here this is very pared back. Who knew that mixing aoud with a frosted leather would result in a whole new genus which I like to call 'Leather Aquatic'?

Interestingly, neither the aoud nor the leather stand out as notes as such, they create more of a texture. Clean, cool, medicinal & fresh.

It is the saffron & dusty pepper which is standing out for me, adding an earthy herbaceous aspect to the mix. And giving me a headache.

An interesting fragrance, reminiscent of a skeletal bare-branched winter tree with crackling dew on the rich bare earth beneath.

I can't think of a single occasion when I would wear this.
