Pure lipstick scent! Smells like quality vintage cosmetics. It's more of a waxy violet, with a bit of sweetness. Very well done, but unfortunately, it does not suit me.

moonbloomscent

On my skin, it is just a pure lipstick, wax, and cosmetic powder scent. I tried to like it but couldn't, the last time I wore it, I kept sneezing and had to take antihistamine.
A powder scent perfume I really like is Love, Chloe. Both Chloe and Watkinson have Iris and other purple flowers except Violet. This is my first perfume with a Violet note in it, I guess I don't like the smell of Violet in my perfume.

SO AMAZING - Love has truly been good to me~ Not even one sad day~ Or minute have I had since you've come my way. This fragrance reminds me of the initial stages of love. It is like Atkinsons took Guerlain Insolence and said - how can we make this better? smoother? Lighter but a more fulfilling fragrance - BOOM! Love in Idleness. I agree with Supersaiyan below, this is - "sugared almonds".

supersaiyan

Blind buy gone horrifically right, this is a lovely lipsticky violet with a feminine and vibrant twist of raspberry. Indeed it is reminiscent of Insolence, though I find that has a more candy-like sweetness, whereas Love In Idleness (love the name) leans more on the lipstick-fruity side. In fact, it smells Italian sugared almonds, and is essentially a closer to a combination of Lush Confetti and Alaia Blanche, which I don't like too much separately but smell much better "together".

Finaly i got this and wearing it full today . I must say it is different then i thought it would be looking at the notes .
This sure is a violet bomb ,slightly waxy and green Violet leaf . It does not develop much on my skin , Stays the same slightly powdery waxy . yes lipsticky . but also makeup powder a mix of bouth i would say . I bought this looking for makeup and waxy so its a perfect fit in that manner. but somehow i wished it was a bit brighter . the rasspberry and heliotrope in my mind could have been a perfect powder on top of the violet iris . abit sunny .( was secretly wishing for something like Dior French kiss.. Its not ..)
Insted it gets abit damp earthy with moss and patchouli . Infact it does remind me of lolita lempicas Violets . especialy the midnight versions. I guess the heliotrop and violet patchouli makes it abit licorice like .. I do see the referense to other violet scents like Goutal , Guerlain .i would say closer to Goutals Violet then any of the Insolence . if any of the it should have to be the glacee version that comes closer.
This is perfect for spring time, also summer but maybe not the strongest heat. Well infact this may work year round to boost the mood .It does have that mood lift i enjoy in "spring" perfumes . Romantic ,girly , abit vintage vibe but still up to date .(not dated) It feels abit reserved perhaps . not the most outgoing flirty girly romantic . abit more dreamy and thoughtfull perhaps . Needs some more testing but sits like a skin scent rather then a bomb like Insolence and such so far . Very pretty and enjoyable violet makeup scent .

Love in Idleness was very faint when the bottle was freshly opened, two years ago. As time passed, it became stronger and stronger. Despite being an EdT, it equally performs as an EdP does.

Love in Idleness is in its sharpest phase in the opening. I get a faint acetone smell, but this is not disturbing, helps to create an atmosphere like a woman had just done make-up and polished her nails. The acetone like smell disappeares in few minutes. This accord was more obvious when my bottle was fresher, it must have lost its sharpness as time passed.

The rest of the perfume's life doesn't evolve too much, it's rather a linear development. I can call Love in Idleness a bright powder (it may sound contradictionary but that's excatly what it feels to me), young, pink and dusty. This dustiness lasts from first spritz to the end. It reminds me of a pink colored blush powder that my mother had in 1980's. I can't call this a lipstick scent, because I don't feel any creaminess or waxiness that lipsticks have. It absoulutely feels young despite being dusty. I think berries give this feeling. It's delicately sweet, there's nothing sugary or vanillic.

As far as I remember, Love in Idleness may slightly resemble Insolence EdT. Insolence EdT was sharper and white musk was overwhelming for me. It was cleaner and more complex than Love in Idleness. Insolence EdT is clean and fresh powder, Insolence EdP is more floral and creamy, Love in Idleness is bright and dusty powdery. I almost feel the powder grains when I inhale it. Actually I wonder if there's real powder inside, because I had noticed some white stain on the sprayer and cap, at first I thougt that alcohol had dissoved the lacquer on the cap, but when I washed the bottle, all the white stain had been washed out and the cap shone again. Interesting.

Oh how amazing and crisp it is. What an adorable elegant Violet . Violet Violet Violet - my love this spring. So happy to have a FB of this magic spring delight. It’s not as soft or careless as violates in Marc Jacobs or Gucci, closer to Insolence.

A gorgeous delicate scent that smells just like Parma violet candies. One of my favourite violets. Another close one to this is Annick Gouttal La Violet which smells very similar but slightly more fresh.
Love love in idleness! Thank you loli xx

Just a lipstick scent...Is it?! Whether the raspberry kiss is a dream for the knight on a white horse and a red rose in his hands?! Is it?
Love in Idleness can be a remedy against winter melancholy, or maybe it's just a feeling through which an youth triumphs over the time and the space ... endless serenity, a hope in the heart and a peace of mind...Is it?!
I've searched for the perfect mix of my favourite notes violet/raspberry and I found it here, without it to be too girly, too candy, too vintage, too much of poudre ...or anything sticking out or prickly!
Do I have to look for an explanation for the true Love?... It just happens and either you are lucky enough to experience it, or ... you keep dreaming about it and looking for it!

If you're looking for a lipstick scent, this is it. I'm not usually a huge fan of these types, but there is something about this one that makes me want to smell it again. As far as lipstick and cosmetic powder fragrances go, this one is rather well rounded and balanced. The dry stuffiness a powdery scent can give off is balanced by a touch of the sharp cooling nature of oakmoss, and rounded by the lightest hint of raspberries that smell like violet candies. In no way is this a sweet scent, merely a touch of candied raspberries that give it a youthfully pretty exterior. The lipstick and cosmetic powder scent can come off a bit like acetone sometimes, although, it doesn't bother me too much.

This reminds me of a muted purple lipstick in a brassy rose gold vintage case. A feminine woman who has sweet, youthful facial features, but gives off a chic aura. An aura that looks so simple, it creates a mystery and desire to surpass the simple exterior; one that you know would require a closeness to break through. This has that kind of vintage yet modern, sweet with a touch of sensual twist.

Love in Idleness sits very close to the skin, and doesn't project much. It has this light and airy quality, nothing too heavy at all, and that is exactly what makes this scent in my opinion. It's really pretty simple, but leaves a vibe that makes you think of it randomly at a later time for me.

Very artificial, has something harsh about it that I find gives me a headache. I agree with the comments below, it has a cosmetic smell to it which I think is what I don't like about it. 4/10

Pempipot

I agree with the review that compares this to violet candies: it's exactly that. I'd also agree there's a resemblance with Insolence, with the very same faintly chemical note. Insolence is more refined, this is bolder and sweeter.

This is a simple, straight forward scent, much like many other English perfumes: but where it lacks in complexity, it excels in prettiness. It's a simple, lovely scent of framboise and violet, with moderate sillage and nice longevity.

diluted paintbox

Yes. This smells like cosmetic powder or lipstick.

Actually, it smells like dressing/makeup room in theatre. I find this smell really close to me, because I work in theatre. It reminds me of all these moments before the show, when you sit there, people are doing your makeup and you are either nervously repeating your text, or you are trying to concentrate because you are so tired you don't know if you can go there and stand on stage, or thinking how you are weirdly calm today and if this is okay, or you are just chatting with your makeup artist, crying of laughter with other actors, gossiping or singing our favourite song..

It is a safe place somewhere in between the real life and life on stage.

This perfume smells like it and it breaks my heart a little bit. For someone who does not have this kind of association with carmine scent, I believe it may be boring or even not making any sense. But for me, it makes a lot of sense.

Perfume Beginners

It smells so much like Insolence edp by Guerlain. It must be the violet. I like the way that it adds raspberry in the perfume to give it a hint of sweetness.

elena_irimia2003

Powder and lipstick. It's a very personal parfume, close to skin, moderate sillage. It's discreet, not loude but that doesn't mean it's not beautiful.

Oh smells like those French violet candies!! So nice !! Sweet violets at first then more earthy, here is a violet scent that isn't vintage, this is pleasant, modern, timeless almost. The heart is deeper, and then the moss comes into play, giving it a more earthy deep vibe..it isn't overly powdery, I imagine a hippie happy girl wearing it..it has a carefree aura
It isn't me really, although I might go out of my comfort zone for it..as really, it is pretty!! It is very much like the Guerlain Insolence glacée, although the Atkinsons manages to be prettier, more interesting, it has different levels of violet Intensity!?
Great creation!

Love in idleness is a romantic feminine violet centred perfume. It's quite wonderful and aromatic yet has a slight acetone or nailpolishremover note ,,,. It's lighter and fresher than lipstick rose , another one of my favourite violet perfumes. Love in idleness starts of with a raspberry violet candy note that may quickly remind you of French kiss by guerlain or lipstick on by Mason Martin Margiela, however soon it takes its own turn and is likely the most aromatic , fresh , and romantic feminine fragrance you could own.
Starts candied raspberry violets soon goes into a heliotrope vanillaish smell but not too sweet as the irs keeps it powdery and cool then it goes into a slight mossy patchouli base which gives it that classy feminine vibe right to its end. In my opinion this fragrance is a must have for women that are romantic at heart , it's utterly feminine at heart , for women that love make up and love falling in love. Love in idleness is all about being a woman .
The fragrance is basically like a magical love story !
If one could capture the smell of LOVE , this would be it.
Likely nicer in summer for most but to me this works as an all year round fragrance.
It's like a fresh bath product. Violets candies and soap, breathtaking ! It never gets deep or changes that much , it's stayes fresh to the end but less fruity in the middle and end.
Complete winner.
I hope this will never be discontinued.

This is more like a cosmetic powder, or a rouge lipstick. Pinkish cosmetic powder, it does captivates the wearer once worn with it's sweetness cosmetic powdery note and that raspberry one, quite good tho.

Love In Idleness-- what a fantastic name for a perfume! Between my deep and abiding love for violet scents and the Shakespearian reference, I could not resist. So, this was a blind buy for me in the middle of a record breaking, hot summer. When I spritzed it for the first time, all I could smell was a nicely done, but kind of meh vanilla-y accord and a rather pedestrian patchouli. I was so mad at myself! Fortunately, as the weather changed I decided to try LiI again and now I love it.

On me, it opens with a bright berry scent that passes quickly into a really cozy, comforting, and powdery violet scent, supported by a slightly earthy patchouli/mossy accord. It is not a gourmand scent, but to me it almost feels like one in very much the same way that Malle's Lipstick Rose feels like one. Maybe that is due to the sweet, candied nature of the violet in both perfumes. Although the perfumes have a similar feel, I do not mean to say that they are they all that much alike. LiI is less opaque than LR, by about a third, and maybe a bit more powdery. Also, I envision LiI to be a true lavender color while LR feels very fuchsia to me.

I don't think Love In Idleness is revolutionary, but it is extremely well done-- very pretty and easy to wear. I feel comfortable wearing it anywhere. It smells modern, but to me there is a nod to a vintage sensibility, which I find appealing. LiI is well-blended enough that even though I can smell different notes, not one of them really stands out more than the other. In other words, it is more complex than a violet soliflore. I think LiI skews to the traditionally feminine side of the gender continuum, and it has excellent longevity and moderate sillage.
