Agent Provocateur by Agent Provocateur is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Agent Provocateur was launched in 2000. The nose behind this fragrance is Christian Provenzano. Top notes are Indian Saffron and Magnolia; middle notes are Moroccan Rose, Vetiver, Egyptian Jasmine and Gardenia; base notes are Musk, Cedar and Amber.

Agent Provocateur is the signature fragrance of the house. Its sharp very intensive animalistic and very provocative juice has become a modern classic combining Indian saffron, coriander from Russia, Egyptian Jasmine and Vetivert from Haiti among other exotic elements.

The fragrance is in a wonderfully tactile precious porcelain bottle with the shape of an egg (or a bomb?). It is so rosy and innocent, contrasting with its wild and shameless erotic scent.

The composition starts strong and sharp with a spicy note of saffron. Warm floral notes of magnolia, Indian jasmine and gardenia blend together with strong woodsy-chypre scent. There is very animalistic amber and musk notes in the base.
The perfume was created 2000 by Christian Provenzano.

I once had it, about 10 years ago: it was like a mixture of roses that are old and dropping off petals and it was sort of interesting. But there was also something pungent and irritating so eventually, even after having tried this many times at home and even outside a few times (got a very negative comment by one of my colleagues once), I decided to just get rid of it.

chimidoro

I was really put off by a previous bottle I had of this (2017) because it had a really strong violet note which actually made it seem too similar to the MAITRESSE version for me. I already had that so this seemed extraneous. It was just a cacophony of notes vying for attention, rendering a disjointed violet-rose-woods mess. 🙅🤦

The bottle I've got now (2015) doesn't smell like violet and instead smells of rich, sweet, powdered, thorny roses. 🌹 It seems higher quality, better blended. I feel it's more in line with, say, LUSH's Imogen Rose. I've only got an old stick version and one 30ml bottle of that so having a big ass bottle of this Agent Provocateur is totally 😍😍😍😍😍

I think the bottle I had before was a reformulation that had changed the scent completely, whereas, I wonder that perhaps the version I have now might actually be closer to the scent as it was originally intended, only... perhaps watered down and made less... Animalic? (Basing this observation on other reviewers' comments) Possibly changes made due to restrictions in perfumery and cutting costs?
This one is fabulous, whatever the reasons. 👌

I remember seeing this in perfume collections and vanity tours on youtube like 10 years ago. Seeing how easy to find and affordable it still is I decided to blind buy it. People on YT describe this as "sexy skank" which seriously peaked my interest even more. And you know what that it is - why this image comes to everyones mind I don't know but I get it too. This is very sexy, powdery, floral and velvety kind of spicy. It's Patsy Stone after a night of partying and wake up hangover living dead in the morning. It's kind of freeing actually. I absolutely love this scent.

Mags322

I’ve gone back to this beauty after many years .I hope it’s the same fragrance that I loved. I’ll find out when it arrives. I’m wearing Floral street Chypre Sublime at the moment and it is very similar.

redbionicle

ha ha @JetSnail22 , same overhere: I cannot decide whether to like it or not and my son expressed to smell some flowers associated with toilets. Will definitely try to spritz on my skin and not on clothes. maybe it will change my feelings. Very pleased to read all the comments overhere so I understand it's not that I held the bottle for too long in my cabinet, but it's nature of this perfume.

JetSnail22

I just can’t stop sniffing my arm trying to get if it stinks or smells beautifully. Sort of love lyrics to yourself. My bf feels toilet vibes in it.

carnivalofsouls

This is a very sexy perfume, its erotic but in a vintage way (think anais nin 1920s paris bohemian) starts off with an incense-like moment before settling into a rose, a very dirty rose, i think it might be too sensual to wear in the daytime, unless you're planning to...you know...*wink wink* reminds me a bit of serge lutens la fille de berlin, which is a signature rose you can wear all the time, i will say i think i like Agent Provocateur more, there seems to be more dimensionality to it, and maybe its that animalic undertone that really gets me, but it just feels more unique and interesting even if its too feral and racy to wear daily, anyway sexy sexy sexy perfume like erotica in a bottle

dezaval

I was intrigued by the negative reviews an I managed to buy a 4ml bottle. It's so cute!!! :-)

I have to agree it's a very unusual fragrance. It has a chypre aura and thus for some it's somehow old-fashioned. But not for me. I do love chypre fragrances.

Now, the first thing I detect is the great dose of saffron. Saffron, for me, is a very dangerous note. One has to be brave enough to wear it at this dose, because saffron has a smell of sweat and urine at the same time (yes..., I know... sorry). In other words, human odours. But, this is expected from a fragrance it's an ode to the human body. After all, the name of the frag is "Provocative Agent"... How else could it be provocative? Thus, for me the use of saffron here is genious! Do I like the smell of saffron? No, I don't, but I think I understand the concept of the frag...

BUT, WAIT! Don't get discouraged! This phase will last for about 10-15 minutes. Just before the saffron disappears, the rose becomes spicy... This spicy rose also disappears... And suddenly a very sensual rose (in my mind the pastel pink petals of moroccan roses) comes together with a very fluffy sensual musk. Earthy/woody notes such as vetiver and cedar accompany them and your skin suddenly blooms! This fragrance is not girly neither feminine neither pretty, neither... something usual. It's really very sensual. Tricky, yet so unique and interesting.

Oh, it's a musky bomb! You'll have to wear it on your skin, not on clothes! Somehow the molecules of the musky frags work better on skin. One more thing: stay away from beloved ones for the first 10-15 minutes. And then, let them enjoy this frag with you! Does it worth the journey? Yes, it worths the journey... But...what a journey!!!

Lanka

I have never been a huge fan of rose in perfumery, but I started using cosmetics and creams that are made with Bulgarian rose extracts, and my skin is in much better condition. Hence, my respect for roses grew, and what do you know, I love this perfume! Very dry and quality rose. Is it sexy? Yes! But is it for bedroom only? Not sure. I imagine an intelligent and put together person who does not suffer fools gladly to appreciate this perfume, too. I imagine a person who is not afraid to walk away from a situation if his/her needs or standards are not met.

asperblood

I go back and forth on this one. I've thought of selling my nearly full bottle multiple times because of this. There have been times where I've worn it, and thought, "God I smell good." and then other times where I feel like an old lady. It definitely has a boudoir feel to it, no doubt. I've found that I like it better when I layer it with other perfumes, so to me, it's a great base, just needs some extras added.

JoyDivision

I bought it around 2012 and I have to say that this is the sexiest, most promiscuous, animalic perfume in my collection. Actually, I remember that I bought it thinking 'OMG, I haven't smelled anything so slutty before but not in the cheap, slutty way'. This is the scent of a dynamic career woman with multiple lovers to satisfy her sexual drive and to get the dominance she wants. For some reason, it reminds me of underwear right after sex. It has an old-fashioned 80's vibe that makes it even more desirable. Although it's been discontinued, I was able to grab two decanters two years ago. Yes, it can definitely be a bedroom scent for endless, sexy nights.

Perfect10Tara

A vintagy, soapy, rosy, floral that's ultimately quite innocent and harmless. It's actually quite light and has a kind of plasticky element to it. Really I just liked the bottle and think the underwear from this brand is sexy and achingly cool so that's probably why I bought it.

hexed

I'm picky with my roses and she's my type! Not sure whether I'd brave wearing it in public, as I find roses to be opinion-splitting and headache-causing. It's very likeable to me, not a bombshell fragrance, intense but not for long. Also quite a bit greener than I expected, or maybe my nose just interprets saffron like that. Main association it awakens in my mind is scented letter writing sets and journals, with patterned pink pages.

fangpili

If Agent Provocateur and Mugler's Aura had a baby, you would have Guerlain's Angelique Noire. These are the dark, gothic sexy creatures of the night perfumes

CatOwned

This smells like a bitter/unsweet rose soap to me. There is definitely something vintage smelling about this one, but it isn't to my taste.

taylormarie

It reminds me a lot of L’eau de Chloe (the green one that’s been discontinued). Perhaps it’s the combination of rose and earthiness of vetiver and cedar. Though it’s not listed as a note, I really pick up on patchouli - which is very prominent in L’eau de Chloe. This scent doesn’t say sex or slut to me at all. It smells like a nice rosy soap and I can envision it working well in the spring.

Yes Malena

As for my bottle of Agent Provocateur, I have the made-in-USA, Inter Parfums, current version. I mostly get vetiver and a rose that gets soured by something. Some shy magnolia. Saffron and patchouli maybe are there, yes, softly in the background. Feels too dry and thin, overall, for me. Coriandre is a much better experience at this point, because the new bottles are in my opinion still good and show more intrigue.

Sosnovska1533

I dont even like rose perfumes but this one is an unexpected exception! Love the long longetivity, and the soft notes. Can be worn at any time of the day, any situation.
The bottle is also so beautiful; vintage vibes

Ferra_Verto

Dried velvety rose petals paired with dried saffron, becomes woodier and very musky as it blooms on the skin.
There's a touch of animalic earthiness about this too, as if the roses are still covered in the soil they were pulled from.
The drydown reminds me a bit of Delina, though not nearly as fruity.
Cool/cold weather, I cannot imagine this in the height of a warm spring or summer day. Projects quite loudly and leaves a noticeable trail.

luftbahn13

Seriously strong perfume. Can be headache inducing. A bit too much for everyday wear. A bit too trashy for fancier occasions. Too powdery to my taste, and it's almost nauseating. My friend said it gives him "old woman vibes". Somehow I still like it, just wish it wasn't that strong!

Salkavalka

If the notes include something on the lines of woody-rosy-metallic-spicy, count me in! I adore Rive Gauche, Fendi Fendi, Rose Safran by L'occitane and the green L'eau de Chloe from 2012, and I think Agent Provocateur fits in the same group. It's a beautiful, spicy, earthy rose and I think all the sleazy connotations can be tossed out the window.
The opening is somewhat plasticky, but once we're past that, it's fine. The rose comes to the front and stays there. The base is a bit smoky-ashy and reminds me of Fendi in a way.

herheartflutters111

i wonder how this would be paired with pink sugar. they’re like those two best friends that are soo different yet so similar. they both share that cheap, 2000s stripper-esque vibe lol

rinrinlovesrinrin

i don't know what it is about perfumes that first smell a certain way, and then a year later seem like an almost completely different perfume.... but this is an example of one of those fragrances. i love the musky and spicy rose 🌹🔥 that is finally revealed because upon first spray, i got a very grassy and much too peppery, earthy, cold fragrance. now it's more musky, more warm. it's nice, i quite like it.

TatianaChoco

Again, the situation repeated that I ordered perfume for the first time and I immediately sold it, but I remembered the smell and I have bought it again.
This perfume is something like a "forbidden fruit" - it provokes us, it doesn't let us sleep, it wants to possess us... We know we cannot try it again but it still tempts us, so we risk it again and again. For me, this is exactly the attraction, the taboo - the forbidden, what is not said or done... What attracts you to try it more and more...
The introduction is very specific and you say "ugh" this is power, I cannot bear it. But I keep smelling the wrist until I finally smell that erotic, provocative aroma - woody spicy vintage rose 🌹

cellardoor19

I bought Agent Provocateur captivated by its retro bottle and evocative name. I wasn't quite sure what to expect since the reviews were so mixed: a polarizing scent for many. After testing it for a while I can confirm that I like it very much. At the first spray, the uniqueness of the saffron note stands out, temporarily pervading the entire fragrance. As it warms on the skin, floral delicacy emerges, with the prominence of Moroccan rose dancing on the hints of saffron, creating a sensual interplay between harsh and warm notes that alternate. The base notes mute the fragrance as the hours pass, making it woody and musky.
It is a fragrance that exudes a secret and deep sensuality, the allure of old-fashioned elegance, of a lady in a carriage wrapped in refined lingerie. It possesses many facets and it is not for everyone, but only for those who love to live their sensuality in a hidden and intense way.
Agent Provocateur bewitches the senses like an ancient elixir. Its complex floral and spicy notes are a hymn to the secrets of the heart. To wear it is to release one's daring spirit, to savour femininity from behind the veil of timeless elegance.

monce11bt

Through the years I tend to shift through my roses in fragrances and this is the dirty elegant one. The kind of scent that you wear with an amazing evening gown, stunning lingerie underneath offcourse, at the opera, a fancy dinner party, some event where you want to be the glamorous, elegant woman in charge that turns people's heads just by entering a room or silently passing by with confidence. And confidence is something you definitely need in order to wear this scent. It screams "take me, but you have to deserve it because I can flip your world in ways beyond imagination". No need to show a lot of skin, or try to hard because this scent radiates sofisticated sexapeel and vintage glamour that you can feel on your skin for 12+ hours and with more than two sprays can fill up a room with it's presence. If this is the vibe you are willing to pull off than this nectar of roses smothered in smoky musky powdery woods is the perfect scent for you. For the woman ready to hold the world at the palm of her hand but be cautious about overspraying because it can be a bit overwhelming for some. Try to find your perfect dose of this fragrance for your skin, the perfect occasion for it.

jaguarundina

I had this perfume in 2000 and had to have it right away. perhaps for queer men this has a kind of riottousness, and it certainly has. but at the same time it has this 'I feel like a million bucks' quality plus an austerity and demanding quality like for instance 'Knowing' and what immediately struck my eye: 'Soir de Lune' and Sisleys 'Eau du Soir'. so after ca twenty years I was blind guessing whatever the notes could be of this particular and striking perfume. my first thoughts were that it would have an aldehydic, sudden outbursting opening. I am not a very good 'Nez', and I thought to smell the Rose and Jasmine. in Soir de Lune, Knowing and Eau du Soir what takes care of the austerity is a dose of oakmoss. if I am looking at the notes it has a genial chemistry, not of aldehydes but of a suffising amount of Saffron, that with the white flowers which are not always so openly discernable (magnolia and especially gardenia can be much more 'in your face') but now they make sure they add a tiny amount of 'pissiness' or ugliness to the swelthering florality of Roses and Jasmine. the vetiver and cedar give the perfume its 'dryness'. for me this superior perfume hasn't changed in the least. I shall only administer a Montale clipper inbetween pusher and 'earthenware' flacon. the erogenous whip I shall try to somehow knot on the Montale clip. it is still the fabulous perfume it was.

Phedre1981

Recently, I read the article on this site regarding a trend of whispering, almost apologetic perfumes. It made me think of this because it's the exact opposite. Its a scent that yells "I'm one classy, glamorous broad and I don't give a rat's behind what anyone thinks of me." I try not to care what people think, but this one, I only wear at home or outside walking on a cold winter's day. I love this, and believe its a wonderful creation, but I can absolutely understand why many people may not appreciate it.

Person most likely to rock this in my opinion: Someone with a Bettie Page aesthetic and an attitude.

PIИК

Never considered this asva summer perfume. And I never loved it either it was simply a good enough blind buy. But lately due to the insufferable summer heat I can't wear most of my perfumes because they become nauseating...and I decided to try this, as its mostly non sweet /dry scented which I thought I'd find tolerable. And I really really like it! It even smells somewhat sweeter in a very non offensive way.

DeeDeeRay1025

I'm really suprised nobody has compared this to delina. It doesnt have the same opening as Delina, not as green, however the dry down is so very similar.

LSAUG

This perfume really reminds me of Santa Maria Novella Rosa Novella but at a better price point for sure. The only problem is the first spray of this is like bug spray. It takes more than 10 minutes for that smell to settle down before you get the beautiful musky rose w/ spices and woods. So, I have to give this just an ok rating because the opening is hard to swallow. My husband says the bug spray smell never leaves for him. Bug spray mingling w/ roses for him. I can understand that. Now I smell it to. The bug spray did go away for me but now it is back again. Just downgraded this to a dislike. Excuse me while I go wash this off.

cleodemerode27

This perfume is beautiful, addictive and comforting. It makes you feel like a character from a film noir. You can't wear this in any setting or wearing regular clothes. It is dark, femenine, alluring, lady like and at the same time dirty. Most people won't be appreciative of this perfume so I will buy it to wear it at home to feel luxurious since it is affordable. I don't think most men will enjoy this, but I don't know. I do understand the reviews that say it smells ''granny-like'' or the comparisons to mosquito repellent. I understand where they are coming from but to me it is delicious.

suzanne_ronald

MOROCCAN ROSE is the star of the show in this beauty that opens with a spicy floral burst of magnolia & saffron with floral, metallic & aromatic nuances, that deepens into the Moroccan rose heart supported by multi-faceted vetiver with creamy, velvety, rosy, warm-spicy, fluffy & powdery facets, all resting on a musky base with earthy & woody touches. Overall I get a fluffy, whipped & spicy MiddleEastern leaning rose, that is almost a chypre with trace patchouli (not listed). Although there is a timeless quality, some might find it to have a slight vintage vibe. Requires a few months of dark storage after first sprays to develop the true scent. Well above average performance.

Contrast to Portrait of a Lady Frederic Malle:
These are different, but there are similarities with the spicy MiddleEastern leaning rose. Portrait of a Lady is warmer and richer, while AP is more fluffy & musky.

Contrast to Rose 31 Le Labo:
These are different, but a similar MiddleEastern leaning rose. Rose 31 is woodier and has a more forward creaminess, while AP is fluffy & musky.

Contrast to Oscar Rose Oscar de la Renta:
These are different, but again a similar MiddleEastern leaning rose. Oscar Rose is a little less spicy & musky, and a little more rose forward. Roughly equivalent performance.

Overall: Well above average performance, with a beautiful spicy Moroccan Rose scent profile. This is the perfect scent to wear on a motorcycle trip down the Western Sahara coast. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

galoppinglady

This is a very affordable fragrance with a lot of wonderful notes and I wanted to love it so hard, but stink. It is just pure stink on my skin. It smells like like old age, be it a person or a building. I can smell the floral notes if I concentrate very hard but 99% of the scent is just dirty, putrid animalic.

ingrid.superstar

Woah! A dry, woody rose that dwells in that surprising hinterland where skank and astringency overlap. Floral-sweet, earthy, and borderline-urinous...almost genital. Also smells like deep red roses growing next to catmint after a cool rainshower...the musky scent of crushed greens and freshly turned soil. But these people make panties and it has clearly influenced their ideas about musk.

If you like Narciso EDT (black cube), Narciso EDP (white cube), Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose and/or Cartier La Panthere, I think this would be right up your alley as well. It resembles them all in some important way. Bold, retro, sexy-serious. In the drydown, it’s all about rose and cedar.

(I love AP as is...truly, just bury me in a big, woody rose; BUT imagine this tinted with violet leaf or a hint of bourbon vanilla.)

melilelu

The first whiff I get from this is a big blast of bug spray. Absolutely revolting. Once that settles down, I mostly get rose, something woody, and a touch of spicy honey.

I bought a full bottle of this thinking it was L'Agent (I'd had my L'Agent sample for so long that parts of the name had scraped off), which is a delightfully skanky, musky-spicy fragrance. Agent Provocateur is a huge let down in comparison. I've tried to let go of my mistaken expectations and give it a chance to stand on its own, but it is really difficult to get past the initial spray.

silvas

Beautiful, beautiful fragrance. Old vibe of course, but excepțional combo. All the best for Christian Provenzano! I am a man and isn't a problem to wear it. Unisex fragrance for me. Just a single regret, i have a new 200 ml batch from 2023 (made in USA)and the performance isn't so high. 6-8 h longevity, with a moderate projection. However, this rose masterpiece remains a big love for me! For the actual price (28 E/200ml), a blind buy is even indicated!

amberdawn

Long lasting longevity and strong sillage. I just got used to wearing this one and now I feel it different and attractive. Definitely a fall/winter scent. Nothing sweet or girlish. Just classy.

sananebe

This perfume is a game changer. The scent is fresh, floral and feminine. It's the perfect mix of sweet and light and I found it lasted all day. I could smell it on me even after a long day at work. The egg-shaped bottle, the attention-grabbing name, everything is special. I received so many compliments from my friends and colleagues when I wore it.

derkargy

Just intoxicating! I can't stand sniffing my wrists and my sweaters with this retro and rosy juice. It reminds me an old Impulse body spray from the 80's and AP evokes a female impulse as well.

goldiloks

I love me some rose. Stella, Paul Smith, Noir de Noir, Ghost, and even Portrait of a Lady which I initially hated and found very challenging (I now like it a lot!). AP's particular brand of rose is super interesting!

I don't know whether I like it or hate it. It is sort of repelling and attracting me, simultaneously! It feels like a suffocating warm hug from your fave elderly aunty who loves heavily scented talc, but there’s this delicious masculine feel to it that is old school but very sexy? It’s a weird combo for sure.

I ordered a sample and have been sniffing my wrist for a good couple of hours, and the longer it stays on, the lovelier it becomes. On my skin it goes on pleasant enough, it's not dainty or light and has a nice vintage feel to it, but after a few mins I was regretting it slightly as it went through a bit of a pot pourri / public toilet phase! But now it's had time to settle, it has gone quite mascuine and very very nuzzley, like in a crook of the neck kind of intimate way. Not sure it's my kind of rose (yet!), but I'm glad I tried it, and would definitely encourage rose lovers to at least give it a go. I am contemplating acquiring a full bottle as it’s made me curious, it’s affordable and I can’t deny it’s super cute!

Lyric82

This is definitely not a modern or trendy fragrance. But that’s part of its beauty if you ask me. To those who appreciate a wide range, this one harkens back to a time where chypres reigned supreme. Nowadays, the term chypre is thrown about Willy-nilly, and most of the time fails to convey what exactly a chypre is. Sure, a fragrance may fit within a standard definition of the word, but I believe that no, most modern fragrances dubbed chypres are done so erroneously. This one here, at least to my nose, captures the soul of a true chypre all whilst delivering a beautiful rose scent and a whole hell of a lot of femininity. If you only like gourmands and sticky sweet scents, you will abhor this. But if your appreciation of fragrance runs deep, this is a great one to be had for a song.

Lovaloo

Not a modern style of rose perfume, Agent Provocateur is a more traditional take on rose. A deep, peppery, green rose chypre with patchouli and oakmoss. Spicy, herbal, woody, the patchouli goes in a bit of a medicinal direction. The base also has woods, warm musks, and some amber. It starts out smelling cold and slowly warms up with time, but it has very little sweetness to it. It is never a boring experience, I am appreciative of the unique progression.

I prefer this dark, brooding interpretation of rose to modern rose perfumes, many of which smell watery and/or sour. Though it smells a bit old fashioned, AP is more sophisticated and unique than the majority of the rose perfumes I've tested. It punches far above its modest price point. I have nothing but praise for this perfume. Actually I have one small complaint, the bottle is strange, it looks like a large plastic Easter egg.

Relating to similar perfumes:

-If you love FM's Portrait of a Lady, but find it difficult to wear, or you want a less pricy alternative, this is the perfume for you. It is less nuanced overall, but far more affordable and it still smells lovely.

-I haven't tried the 70s formulation of Jean Couturier's Coriandre, but I will say the modern formulation bears very little resemblance to AP. It is a watery rose perfume that smells soapy and green.

annema

Beautiful rose perfume. A classical one. An odd release from a rather trashy lingerie company ... Definitely not something I would have looked for but thanks to Fragrantica, I was intrigued by the reviews. And, hey, for 25$ I didn't have anything to lose (almost). It's very well done and the quality is great. The rose does not smell synthetic. The saffron adds some oriental spiciness to it. This is the best part of that perfume I think and this is what differentiates that one from other generic rose perfume release in my opinion. 2 sprays is more than enough to smell good for a a couple of hours.

Davidleeroth

Genuinely so delicious, like actually yummy. Forget gourmands, this perfume makes your mouth water from the sour crispiness edge in it, almost like a juicy, crispy sour green apple; that kind of kick. Ignore the bad reviews, blind buy, it’s dirt cheap and well worth the money! Beautiful, powdery, sour metallic rose. Perfect for wearing in your chunkiest knit 80s pastel sweater

Kalendula

I am so pleasantly surprised by this. My exploration of chypre fragrances begun about 10 years ago when someone at a concert wore Rive Gauche and I had to try it. On me it didn't mix with my body chemistry. Growing up in the late 70s and early 80s I have been shaped by chypre fragrances. I had a teacher who wore Aromatics Elixir.
But in my mind I had this imaginary scent that maybe I have smelled before, was green, maybe dry?woodsy/chypre, but I just didn't even know what direction to go. Rive Gauche led me to Caleche, which I absolutely adore. Caleche led me to Portrait of a Lady which led me to Coriandre and Agent Provocateur. When I opened Coriandre and AP, I knew I was home. It's the scent I have had in my head. Not to say that Coriandre and AP are identical, but they show some similarity. Where Coriandre is somewhat mysterious, more woodsy and herbal, with oily lipstick and oakmoss dry-down that reminds me a bit of the natural oily scent of hair and skin, AP remains sparkly and clean, even in it's dry-down. I do not find AP dirty or overly sexy. It's more feminine than most fragrances I like but I think of it as having almost a sparkling sort of "pulsar" effect that lasts a very long time. To me the rose stands out the most, it's rounded and in harmony with the other elements and softened by eternal musk soap. On initial spray it's very strong almost spicy, but it dissipates very quickly and changes into a less pungent, more radiant and rounded soft scent that is worth the wait. It's also very reasonably priced. I have tried AP blue silk and black lace, but I do not care for them.

Christinaaaas

This is so underrated. This is my favourite perfume by far, it lasts so long and you only have to spray it one time, it's so sexy, feminine, smells expensive. It's rosy, musky, spicy. A super unique fragrance.

peachygal

I used to love this one! I remember it being very powdery and musky but in the best way possible.

Scentfrommanna

A favourite of mine for many years, this is so unique and classic and unbelievable value. I do think for about £20 a bottle in the U.K. it’s worth a try for any fragrance fan, a truly gorgeous, classy chypre.

It reminds me of vintage perfumes, but I mean that as the highest compliment. The rose in this is beautiful, tart and not sweet in the slightest. The saffron, vetiver and cedar give it a dryness. To me it could very almost be like a classic Middle Eastern perfume too (it is not oud-y though, just to be clear), I just find that Middle Eastern perfumes seem to capture rose notes beautifully. There is also a soapiness and it reminds me of those rose pomanders you can buy.

I have an original formula of this, a Diamond Dust edition and a Porcelain edition and a new bottle from Amazon, because I’m obsessed with this tbh. The new bottle is a teensy bit more saffron and cedar heavy and not as long lasting. The Diamond Dust and Porcelain editions are more rose forward but I do find that letting this sit does bring the rose out, so maybe that’s it. That being said, my new bottle still smells great, so don’t let that put you off.

Sillage and longevity on me are average, which makes me a lil sad, but given the price not a huge issue and to be expected. I’ve tried some more expensive “reminds me of” from here but nothing on earth smells like this, it’s a beauty. If this was from a niche house, people would happily drop £200 on it, I’m sure.

It’s a divisive perfume, my mum always compliments me on it, but my friends don’t like it at all! However I’ve worn it during the day in all seasons and it was my office perfume for many years without seeming to cause offence (my colleagues are vocal about scent) 😂 It does turn a little sour on me in the heat. There is something in the AP fragrances that men seem to like, my ex partner loved this one and Maîtresse on me and he never really noticed many of my perfumes 😂

If you love rose perfumes do give it a try.

LilacSylph

A lovely perfume, like a lighter version of Knowing by Estee Lauder. Very floral, powdery, with some spice/woodiness. It is also similar to Chique by Taylor of London.

fwuity

dry and musk-powdery, like dove soap.

reminds me of heavily perfumed letters written in slanting cursive on thick, creamy, ribbon-pink paper. A severe swan matriarch with a sharp, but not unkind tongue. The smell of roses at dusk in summer. not my thing though!

not-your-babygirl

It is such a nicely blend rosey powder perfume, not a complex one though, which relaxes my mind tbh. I remember my mother wearing it in Moscow in 2010! Its not sweet, not ambery, not warm, I decide to wear it in the colder seasons.

Things that come to my mind when I spray the perfume: Dry roses that have a sourness to them, minutes later I smell sth really woody and also spicyy, like a sharpened lip pencil or a spice bazaar with dry spice flakes in the middle east. The sourness does not leave the picture but it goes from a sourness to a powderness, which stays for about 6 hours on the skin. I would say the powderness is the one that the colour of the flacon stands for. In the beginning I imagine/associate the smell to be pupur red/wine-ish purple (like the saffran picture maybe?)

On your clothes and hair it will stay forever. I am a 22 year old female but enjoy it to the fullest, even though I understand people that are scared away by a grandma’s smell. For my liking it could leave a better sillage, its not a beast mode but for sure a signature scent.

kittywhiskers

This perfume is perfect for any rose lover who also enjoys retro-smelling fragrances. This scent is very... grandmother-oriented, but in the best possible way. Think lace doilies, cozy handmade quilts, and freshly washed, soft white hair... ok I may be specifically, mostly thinking of my own grandmother when I wear this. I was surprised that this was only made in 2000, it smells like it could be from the 50s or 60s.

I want to say that I can smell some of the other notes, but to my untrained nose she smells just like rose, nothing more. She's truly lovely, and the fact that she lasts all day AND can be worn day and night makes me love her even more. I can see how some would think it just smells like rose soap, it is very one-dimensional and doesn't evolve much, what you smell at first spray is what you get. All this being said, I wouldn't label this my most seductive perfume, but definitely one good for bedtime and cozying up. I'd repurchase this for sure

AtelierLicorice

On me this is a deeply boring vintage rose soap, about as musky as a bar of Ivory. It’s the same plain, vaguely pleasant scent the entire time—nothing dramatic or controversial. You definitely have to try this one on your skin!

Swi

Went with all the positive reviews & bought it !!! OMG !!! It just smells like a drainage !! I am feeling so bad to write this review but honestlyy utterlyy disappoointed with the smell !!! My boyfrnd who never said bad about any fragrance till now said that it smells like shit !! I thought its a combo of NR for her & Lady Vengeance !!! No where near to it and smells like filth !!!! 😞😞😞😞

Miss boudoir

I do not like what interparfums made in USA version did to this vintage smelling perfume... Wow they accentuated the rose aspect and now it smells like the rose aspect of Nina Ricci extase... Like a rose Turkish delight smell. No man. Just discontinue it and call it a day.

_jenevieve_

This rosy powdery masterpiece has kept me coming back time after time. This bottle is my third and I’d been without it for a number of years. I purchased an older formulation from eBay. (Haven’t tried interperfumes version, and I’m scared to!) Also, this reminds me of something... some scent memory that is pleasant- but I can’t really remember it. There really is something… carnal about this
Wear to bed at night for sweet dreams.

KarinaSo

It's best to wear and try it on skin because on paper or clothes it's weird and sour 😀 on my skin it opens as a spicy soapy rose which is quite simple and reminds me of my school teachers in 2000's, but quickly that oddity evaporates and scent turns to beautiful carnal spices, very pleasant and sexy, little bit vintage.

Eveningrose

I guess this perfume is one u have to test out on your skin chemistry. For me, this is coming off as a pleasant, feminine and powdery soapy rose . Yes I do smell the tart / sourness but it’s not extremely offensive to me .

bloodyheartofparadise

this is quite honestly one of the most HORRENDOUS perfumes i've ever had the displeasure of smelling. straight up almost painfully sharp screechy metallic pissy rose, i imagine the 'pure filth' people describe this perfume as is from the awful cold urine ammonia stench rather than anything remotely sexy? this literally stung my nose and instantly reminded me of changing my cats litter tray i'm struggling to even convey how disgusting this perfume is, no wonder it's always dirt cheap! it's a shame because agent provocateur's now discontinued l'agent perfume is one of my favourite dark incensy spicy florals and i can't even comprehend how this is from the same brand. it's very difficult to find for a decent price these days but if it's a filthy depraved pure carnal sexxx spicy hooker rose scent you're after then i highly recommend boudoir by vivienne westwood, i imagine boudoir is what this abomination was trying to be and it failed so so miserably.

Spookysocks

I just got this! I have been looking forward to smelling it because of how divisive it seems to be, but I found it to be pretty interesting (in a good way). I blind swapped this one in the website’s forum, even tho all of the reviews told me not to lol.

At first, it was a lot. I was a little nervous because it is very intense and sharp, and that does last a little while. Once it dries down the woody, saffron smell is strongest, which is also intense but i found it wasn’t a bad thing. It just gave it a more unisex quality to me.

I let it develop, and the really fresh, even a touch tart rose came through over the woody-ness, with an earthiness as well. It leaned more feminine at this point!

I get what people say about it being very retro, classic, etc. It simultaneously grabs from the vibe that vintage 50’s rosy, powdery scents have, as well as from intense, loud fragrances of the 80’s.

It is definitely not a soft perfume, or meant for daytime wear. I’m probably gonna mix it with something a little sweeter/amber-y to compliment the deeper qualities of it. I am pretty happy with it! It is super powerful and the bottle itself is so pretty on my perfume shelf!

I would recommend it, but I would smell it first if you can. My best advice is to do as I say and not as I do lol, I blind bought or [or swapped rather ;) ] it, but I wouldn’t do that!

Very much like it! :)

emilymonroe1

Masterpiece! It's a harsh perfume that glows with a poisoned and shattered beauty. The rose is robust and persistent throughout, with a sour undercurrent. Top notes include Indian Saffron and Magnolia; middle notes include Moroccan Rose, Vetiver, Gardenia, and Egyptian Jasmine; and bottom notes include Musk, Cedar, and Amber. Musky scent. Beautiful and animalic. It's very magical!

Fonna2

Rose? Did someone say Rose?
Feminine, strong and alluring.
Smells just like a real walk in the garden. No artificialness here. It is real and transporting.
I have the decant. Firstly, when you apply it, it has absolutely nothing to do with how this rose blooms, as it smells almost metallic.....but then, oh boy!! From a small scentless bud into a rose, then a fresh bright rose with cedar in the background and aquatic. It doesn't project on me too much. I am still testing it as I post.
It is wonderfully different. It seems to have disappeared after 45 minutes, but I know how ionone works.
It will be back.
This is a beautiful warm weather frag.

SarabeineHoney

A very mysterious, sexy, and bold fragrance. Unisex but Femme dominant

MochaSwirl

Tried on a hot summers day, very reminiscent of Turkish Delight with a hint of pepper or sharp "green" scent. If you're a fan of dusky rose scents , then this ticks the boxes. In my case, it felt a lot more of a mature fragrance that did not agree with my nose, sadly.

CCC1

Oh my god I love this! It smells like utter filth. Sexy as hell.

melanie mother or foxes

Sex in a bottle!!
Enough said 😉

NoorbBelgium

Agent Provocateur is a solid feminine fragrance that smells sexy, deep and mysterious. This scent fascinates the wearer with the strong combination and perfect blend of notes. Beautiful! Just so beautiful, elegant and classy one with perfect longevity and silage. Even the bottle looks very pretty and classy to me. Roses in this are not decent kind of roses but feel wild and the ones that turn your guy on kind of rose. Musk is strong and the fragrance is overall beautiful and animalic. Magical scent!

lullabies.to.violane

Understandably polarizing, but an instant favorite for me. A heavy rose, powdery up front in a way that calls to mind something you'd find on a vintage vanity, which develops into a particularly heady musk. There's no sense of play or youthful flirtation here, just overt seduction. I'm hesitant to recommend this to others- when I warned a friend that she might not like it, she conceded that it "smells a bit like an antique store"- but personally, I find it intoxicating. Dark and romantic in a way that's entirely out of step with the modern era, but that's exactly where its magic lies.

KaliDurga

Not a fan. Rose + talcum powder. The powder scent is strong and much heavier than just "powdery;" probably due to the saffron, which is strong. The cedar plays in the background also. Dark and sexy; perfect for the bedroom, but not unique, by any means. Don't blind buy.

moonsunstars

The more I smell this, the more I love it! Definitely a nod to vintage Rose/Chypre fragrances. It isn't listed, but I detect oakmoss on my skin. The Rose is definitely elevated with a deep musk and woody base - With the Saffron and Vetiver contributing to the warm spicy accord. This smells so mysterious, and even witchy. I think that's why I am so drawn to it. So glad I took a chance and purchased this.

lilithroi

This is a soft rose fragrance. My nose could be wrong because I'm currently under the weather but this smells clean and classical. I think the magnolia and gardenia are making this a reality. There is nothing sensual or horny about this fragrance. Flowers can be juicy, but they never scream sex to me.
I will update on the wear later on
Edit.
This does smell skanky lol. Some days it will smell clean and innocent and some days it's the Babylon whore for me. Wow.. versatile, I guess.

Honey Pea

It’s a very beautiful and tart rose backed up with a “wetness” I usually associate with mossy accords or clean patchouli. There is also a scent similar to plastic dolls that I find quite off-putting.

But the reason I don’t like this (even tough the rose is gorgeous) is that the fresh spicy notes and the peppery notes makes me smell like a mosquito repellent. :(

spiderleenie

A staple for fans of rose perfumes.

This isn't a light, fresh, or delicate rose, mind you. The rose takes center stage of the entire fragrance, but the vetiver, musk, cedar, and amber make this smell a lot like leather to me, too. This is not a contemporary rose fragrance, and it's far from a "grandma rose." This is a "sex bomb" rose, and the kind of statement perfume that you could picture being released in the 1980's. Because it's a heavy scent, I would say that this is a nighttime and/or cold weather perfume, which seems to be a rarity among rose fragrances these days.

The lasting power of this is very impressive as well. This is an affordable perfume that stands out AND has longevity. It smells and performs much more expensive than it is.

Perpetual Collector

Stunning rose creation and i am kicking myself for not wearing this more often. I've had it for a while but yesterday was only the third time I wore it, and my mind is blown. Completely niche quality, and should be way more expensive than it is. I have many rose-based perfumes, but this one takes the cake. It's super sexy, super wearable, whorish but not; it's everything and then some. I consider AP the dirtiest and sexiest perfume I own, it's on the top along with Boudoir by VW, and these two can't be beaten in that category. I think I am getting a backup bottle of AP, just in case I live longer than I expect.
Sex bottled.

Enrium

This was a very successful blind buy. I was looking for a cheap-and-cheerful yet sultry rose, and I have long heard good things about Agent Provocateur. The pleasingly retro-style ceramic bottle complete with curlicued font suits both the perfume itself and the branding very well. The distinctive pink orb is made to be displayed on a dressing/bedside table, and the scent itself is deceptively nuanced, not the straightforward rose I was expecting.

AP opens with spicy saffron, grabbing the attention immediately. A soft white floral accord emerges, developing steadily into a sweet, powdery bouquet. Creamy magnolia and clean jasmine are most prevalent to my nose. The saffron here is so good, giving a clever lift to the otherwise run-of-the-mill white floral accord.

As it develops, the rose takes centre stage. It is a big 1980s-style rose, sweet and powdery, reminiscent of vintage powder compacts. While it is in danger of being dated, caught somewhere between 1980s working girl or 1950s golden girl, it manages to be charming and complex enough to instead be relevant to a modern audience while retaining an aspect of retro glamour. As it develops, the rose is complemented by spicy and woody notes. The woody notes are wonderfully smooth, grounding the rose perfectly.

What really makes AP seductive is the musk that emerges after several hours. At this stage, it can be described as Stella McCartney meets Narciso Rodriguez. The powdery, musky rose fades to a skin scent, along with remnants of the woody accord. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting - a little goes a long way. Best worn in the evening. It is like the olfactory equivalent to silk - soft, smooth and sultry. Rosy retro glamour. 4/5.

Katie <3

This smells like a beautiful dark rosy musk on me. I was a bit worried given the polarising reviews, and I blind bought this. This scent must work well with my chemistry. It's so, so nice! I do love roses though, on me this is very rosy musky, not at all like Paloma Picasso which I also like. It is closer to Narciso Rodriguez for her EDP, but deeper, darker, a touch of spice. I would say it stands alone and is quite unique. I wouldn't say it particularly smells like any of the likened scents. Try if you like spicy, musky vampy rose. Very much a boudoir scent, but in the 1940s style. I could see this being worn in technicolor films.
I think this is probably chemistry dependent.

ibralemmi

Overall this is a very vintage-y powdery rose. (for me) Also this is chypre I think? Reminds me of Eau de Soir by sisley, but this has an obvious rose note + it is !powdery! and veeeeeery feminine.
This is what you'd imagine a sophisticated woman wore once upon a time. I mean, it gives me flashbacks. I don't really like it on me but on someone else I really would.

*Also Wait for it to dry down, u'll get the "silk" and "skin" note everyone's talking about.

Very WOMANLY scent. VERY.
(not gourmand, not generic, not what many people today would think, but try to remember and u'll remember smelling at least SOMEONE, at least one grown (not old, not grandma etc.) woman in your childhood or youth years, who smelled just like this. maybe an aunt who was always in tasteful clothes)

ALSO Eau de Soir is also for a sophisticated woman buttt in her case u get "old money", "forest colors" and "gold" whereas in AP's case, you get "always well dressed", "you wanna be feminine/womanly like her" and "pinkpink" with that well kept 50's vintagestyle dark brunette hair vibes

Edit: Longevity is THERE. Yum

Lolafraglover

Very good. The rose stands out (on me at least), it's a fantastic recreation of what a rose smells like, which slowly turns powdery. It has a slightly vintage/decadent Moulin Rouge vibe, so I can understand the sensuality here. I also feel that "skin" they talk about. It's very particular, they say you love it or hate it. I don't understand why you could hate this beauty, unless you were expecting that dolce, trendy "commercial" perfume. and this is not. I find myself smelling my wrists a lot:) i guess it shows how much i'm loving this fragrance!
EDIT: it stands out in my frag collection. It is long lasting. I love when i feel the fragrance, and this one really embraces me. I showed this gem juice to a friend of mine and she loved it too instantly. Deep, gorgeous, unique, retro-ish in a great way, perhaps turning into my favourite in my frag collection! btw, that pink bottle is heavy and beautiful!

Mammalfish

I got this is part of a sampler of chypres from Surrender to Chance, so this was an unexpected surprise and very, very pleasant and welcome amongst several other regrettably matronly (venerable! classic!) fragrances. This one is immediate strong rose...fucking fun. Most rose turns to powder on me, but in this it's young, juicy, flirty, and bright. Strong jasmine & florals, animalic musk. I really like this. Possibly my new signature "sexy" scent—I usually go for bitter herbal, green, woodsy and musky scents, so this may be my favorite floral I've ever tried. Rose is made almost citrusy from the spice, and the throw is very pleasant, light and sweet. I could imagine this being kind of a head-turner. Super femme. Not BDSM sexy but romantic sexy. Definite amber emerging too for warmth. Synesthetic color: Blush pink & coral, but in a GOOD way (I usually hate super-femme pink things, but this is...welcoming pink, like sunlight on a warm-toned wall). Going SUPER jasmine soon, almost sour, woodsier and soapier. This would be a great everyday bodywash scent. As it's drying down it's actually maturing—still not BDSM sexy, but elegant sexy, more deserving of its name. Ultimately pivoting into a straightforward nice light woodsy/amber. Unexpected and a real pleasure!

Ouch!

L’Agent’s silkier softer sister! This is beautiful even in its newest formula. It’s a great example of a dusty rose. Dusty rose mainly with the whispers of something dirtier lurking behind for a smidge of carnal lust. The saffron plays quite a big role in the opening and it’s what makes the wet stages unique and possibly off putting. However the magic happens in the dry down. The white florals here are ever so slightly lactonic too which adds to the unusual mix of tones. Dry woodiness mixed with a luscious but dusty pink rose. The dry down is softer and more powdery and this is where I describe it as “mumsy” in the best way possible. It’s like a velvet blanket of softness that envelops you in its embrace. Thankfully it’s a cheapy so you can afford to lavish yourself here and there. It’s the perfect bedtime fragrance for when you want to sleep in cloak of luxury. Bravo Agent Provocateur. :)

Fierce Swan Scent

A strange and clever balance between creamy and sharp. But it's not gourmand creamy. A seductive woman has just emerged fresh and pristine from a rose, woodsy-vetiver bath, waiting naked on dusty pink satin in a dark room for her lover to arrive. She is excited and... creamy, ready for sex. The only way to describe this. It has a lady parts vibe in the best possible sense. I have no doubt this was the perfumer's intention. One spray should be enough. I smelt Coriandre recently and they are related, but Coriandre is fresher and greener although still complex. AP is more carnal.

amandawilliamspalmer

I have an old bottle. I smell cedar, saffron, and vetiver very woody, musky, slightly animalic. It reminds me of Oud for Greatness. That perfectly unisex, strong, woody perfume. I do not get florals from this just animalic wood - it isn't oud but it feels like it.

wattie

If you want to smell like a powerful 80's business woman, shoulder pads and high heels on fleek, then wear this. I kind of like it, but I think it's a bit strong and old fashioned for everyday use. I prefer a less challenging fruity floral for the office. I did buy a mighty big bottle as a blind buy on eBay though (Doh!), and I am a bit of an experimenter with blind purchases. So it mix it with other fruity perfume in an atomiser, and it smells ok. Anyway, what does it actually smell like? To me, It's mainly the musk and cedar, and imperial leather soap. The floral notes are drowned out by these notes. Actually, I think it smells more like aftershave. It doesn't smell cheap.

mldaleali28

I feel sorry for those whose skin chemistry turn this fragrance into a nasty one. On my skin this is a very sexy potent saffron bomb. I am not very much into saffron but in this one I like it, it’s intriguing and seductive. Definitely not easy to wear and not for everyone, not that I complain about that. The rose is slightly outdated but it’s muted, this perfume is mainly about saffron, vetiver and cedar. A bit androgynous, but that makes it even more provocative. I wouldn’t wear it in summer, I think it might be heavy and cloying.

adoh

I've had my bottle lying around for about seven years, and have tested it out recently. Strong alcoholic blast upon first spray, which would honestly be off-putting if it didn't disappear in under 30 seconds. I have an amateur nose but even so I felt that the opening after the alcohol was sharp and animalic. This sharpness runs through the whole fragrance until it disappears from the skin. There is rose but it is not creamy, and I don't get any powder notes. Overall it is tart but not sour, dirty but not obscene. Takes about an hour for it to settle down from something I am ambivalent about to something I like - gets more elegant and borderline sophisticated. Above average longevity I would say, I get several hours out of it in the winter. Not my idea of a sexy smell but not a girlish scent either.

kurzemesradioel

Very nice rose aroma - it is both fresh and dusty at the same time!
How?
I don't know, but it is, it smell clean but with a kick,

a kick in the back of you troath :D

sugarfreespirit

When I wear this, I am the main character. Like a good lipstick, or wearing that outfit that just makes you feel like a 10... I just feel a boost of confidence when I wear this on special occasions. It's strong as hell when you first spray but it does become less invasive and more sultry with some time. Not for everyday wear, but definitely when I want to be my sexiest and feel feminine.

Missetherealbeauty

Smells very strong and spicy at first, so yes, totally agree with the cat pee note, haha! But after 3-6 minutes, Agent Provocatuer smells so sexy and sophisticated. It's like a very old and warm rose vintage bar soap with delicate herbs and spices. It's a very mature rosy fragrance, so expect others to take you seriously with this perfume on. They will smell that you are in control, that you are independent and freakin' powerful. Smells exactly like a mix of Narciso Rodriguez EDP and Sisley Soir de Lune. 100%. Powerful oriental rosy perfume! Lasts for a very long time on the skin. When you wear this, do yourself a favor and tell yourself: "I'm in control." You sexy goddess of a woman!

Also, I just love fresh and clean scents, so I found out that Agent Provocateur mixed with Jennifer Lopez Glow, Clean Warm Cotton or Pink Molecule or ANY fresh fragrance will smell INTOXICATING! I really love AP on its own but I do wish it was more fresh smelling!

Angelamb

I will always have this in my collection. She starts out harsh, really harsh, like pee pee walking down a skanky alley in Seattle harsh, but give her 20 minutes, and OMG... The pee pee fades to the richest sexiest spicy rose. Like a cold Sunday morning in bed with your lover kind of good.

Dottie's Hoomum

I’m stunned at my own capriciousness! For ten years, I considered Agent Provocateur to be THE sexiest perfume ever. I thought it was sultry and spicy and had the power to make people swoon. Now? After not having used it for a few months, I’m smelling screechy. It sticks in my throat like a sharp, sour taste. And I’m sorry to use this horrible word, but it’s …

S K A N K Y

Bunging it on the world’s biggest online marketplace 😁

Laziza

The ultimate elegance, sexiness and femininity ❤️
It’s amazing that AP as a perfume brand is not that recognized. Their lingerie is ok, mostly special occasions only. It’s not that easy to wear those kind of things every day, requires some work so to speak.
But Agent Provocateur perfumes make you feel like the ultimate Woman.
A Lady in the living room. A Whore in the bedroom.

Wdalton

I wanted so much to love it. The spice doesn't come out on me, it's all roses and gives me a headache.

fanciful

The vetiver and saffron are too overpowering. This could be rescued with more sweetness, which it's now lacking. Too cold, metallic and dirty smelling for my liking.

LeonieB

For me this is a very strong, almost overwhelming, sneezy rose chypre - too strident and dated to be seductive. And that’s from one tentative spray on the wrist!

Babblecat

This opens as a shrill saffron and coriander bomb that I feel in my sinuses, but mellows into a very pretty spicy rose. I like to layer it with musk oil to warm it up and bring out the base notes a little bit more.

Carlysfx1

Two words: S3x. Bomb. On me, at first it was intensely spicy, powdery and slightly rosy. After letting it develop, the musk showed itself along with the rose and, to put it simply, it’s just so hot. It’s rich, potent, feminine and a little dangerous - I feel like a femme fatale. This is my new go-to, I can’t stop smelling my wrists and the longevity and sillage are enormous. Huge compliment-getter.

Rosetuber

The initial spray of this can be a bit overwhelming. Spicy and strong. Very vintage smelling then comes the real magic after 1-2 hours when it dries down into a very musky sensual rose. I spray it on my clothes a couple of hours before wearing them and on my bedding too. Perfect for cold evenings.

tanyavee73

When I first sprayed this masterpiece all I could smell was perm solution. It wasn't what I expected so I put it away and mulled over it. Casually smelling my arm throughout the day I discovered the most amazing smell. This perfume is definitely all about the drydown. Roses and vetiver and cedar make it perfect for the holiday Christmas season and I'll be wearing it alot. It's strong, so watch out, but I love a powerhouse frag.

zelda318

sounds like i mite layer with MONTALE DARK PURPLE.... will let all of you know when my HUGE bottle arrives on Friyay...

amandavolpe

Beautiful. Timeless. What else do you need?

Mona708

Out of all of the scents I’ve tried so far, this one has taken the longest time to figure out. It also performs very different based on the time of year I’m wearing it. When I wore it this summer, I noticed that the beginning was more spicy but it vanished pretty quickly. Now that the weather has gotten cooler, it’s not spicy at all but it lasts longer. The rose is more prominent, and the dry down is more tart and powdery. I also had a lot of fun experimenting with layering options for this scent: I wouldn’t layer this over Diamonds and Rubies again because it ends up smelling like ground-up Flinstones chewable vitamins 😑 However, it works pretty well when layered over Halston Classic, Jōvan (White) Musk Woman, Obsession, or the lotion for Cabotine. I also got good results layering it over the last of my Little Pot of Energy lotion. It’s not the vampy sex goddess scent I initially thought it would be, but I am still very glad I got to try it out. I may get another bottle down the line when I run out.

amanda-m-lewis

This scent is the rose aficionados best friend..I swear.

Its so deep, rich, sensual and sophisticated that it just blows my mind.

I love Rose fragrances, especially roses that are dark and kind of gothic and owning this and L"Agent are definitely in my top 10 of fragrances that I wouldn't want to be without. Ever!!

I don't get any of the skanky, cat's pee pee. That some people talk about. And im so glad as I can't tolerate scents that have any kind of skank in them..So please AP, don't ever change the formula in this. As its liquid gold!

Fouquet5%

My first attempt at wearing this. Warm autumn day in the SE US. All I got was a mature aldehydic dusty rose. Very strong. I don't think i gave it a fighting chance, as I scrubbed it off (the best I could) after 30 minutes. I'll try this again when I am feeling up to it. My first impression is very different than what I expected. Where is the sexy, sweaty, lusty, stink-so-good odor? This smells like my 1980s elementary school teacher to me...so far.

Will update later. Will try again before I pass it along to someone else. 100 ml bottle.

UPDATE: Totally agree with Vesi below. This fragrance is a chameleon. It felt like I was wearing three different scents as it developed over time. It morphed into a musky, powdery rose. It eventually faded into a clean sweet floral skin scent. Still not sure what I think about this one...

Princess_Moth

I am not a religious person but I had my visits to different religious places. To me this smells like a rose garden surrounding an old monastery.
Very potent and unusual not for girly types its absolutely femme fatale vibes like black dress dont care about your opinion attitude.

stephdray

She’s a beast. There’s a lot to love in agent provocateur—that old fashioned dusty powdered rose is to die for—but the vetiver blows up and overpowers the goodness. In the end it reads as a bit of a chypre grenade. Respect, but not for me.

No. I really want to dig this especially as I’ve been on a more vintage and rose scented vibe lately but it just can’t get into this at all. As other people have said: it’s just a bit shouty. It would probably smell awesome on my hubby but on me, not so much. It makes me feel a little nauseous with the saffron and rose combo. I’m not all that gourmand anymore and I don’t need a fragrance to be super sweet smelling but just a little hint of sweetness would be nice. This one is drier than the Sahara though.

Enchanted77

I’ve tried twice now and honestly, I’ll probably try one more time because I blind bought a big bottle. However, I just do not like it. I own over 100 fragrances and can find something I like about 95% of perfumes but I just can’t this one. It has great longevity and silliage but that’s the only positive thing I can say about it other than it becomes a little more tolerable after an hour or so. At least to my nose, it’s actually kind of offensive…..

breathless

Magnificent. Explosive spicy notes calmed down by flowers and all embraced by musk. Excellent quality ingredients. An original. A scent you can't forget.

LauraAD

As per the below reviewer my first wearing of this perfume was on a 30 degree day. WOW. It's a sexy, musky rose, slightly incensey, amber BOMB. Dries down to a natural fresh rose petal smell, but still with that sexy musk behind it. Huge projection, and I can still smell it on my skin despite having had a shower AND slept since applying it 20h ago. This may be one of my new favourites, and I'm usually far more a niche lady, and I'm looking forward to trying it in cooler weather too.

Cold weather update: if I loved it on a hot day, it's even better on a cold one. Sexy, cosy, makes you want to wear it whilst you snuggle with your lover under a blanket. Gorgeous.

Always was thinking this Perfume is for winter. And I was so wrong! I tried it in a hot summer day and oh my! How beautifully it opens on my skin! I’m amazed. Musky rose with a hint of incense, very sexy. My boyfriend loves it as it has a bit of vintage vibe. Today I ordered few more bottles.
Please try in a hot climate +30 degrees Celsius. I know that perfumes react differently on different people but maybe you will be pleasantly surprised 😉

Someone told me that AP was discontinuing all their scents. I didn't believe it until I went on their site and the only perfume available was Miss AP, so maybe there is some truth to that. Anyone know any different?

How can this be - from a shouting lady this develops to a confident pretty woman, and turns into a soft, gentle, even innocent girl? Genius!

This was a blind buy, one of my firsts from when I was relatively new to the concept and inept at interpreting notes. And it should have been enough to dissuade me from ever blind-buying again but, as the giant box of miserable failures proves (and of which this is the most shocking and distressing), I have not learned that lesson. The first time I sprayed it, confusion reigned supreme. A nuclear, chemically-enhanced body odour smell filled my nose, and through the haze I heard my daughter asking “what smells like black olives?” Fast forward several years and this bottle has somehow leaked or been accidentally deployed at the bottom of the box and my room now reeks of metallic roses and briny olives and saffron-scented sweat. I’ll probably have to sell my house. I mean no offence to anyone who experiences this differently and likes or loves it. You have out-of-this-world, superhuman body chemistry! Enjoy it!

When I first bought this at launch, it was the strongest smelling scent I possessed (and I'd worn original YSL Opium in the 80's) with the greatest longevity. In recent years I've gone all in on some powerful beauties which should, sometimes, been seen only as the occasion fits (ahem, I'm looking at you Papillon Salome) This has a strong opening that may sometimes come across as too much, blasting Saffron, Magnolia, Jasmine and Rose. Dry down takes a looong while, but soon the musk and amber bed in to soften the symphony, and allow the rose and jasmine to shine. Not as Animalic as some, such as VW Boudoir, Salome, Nectary etc. This works hard, 12 hours, or more on fabric. I'm currently using a bottle from around 2010, with another still wrapped. I don't use it often as I have an expansive niche collection, but I come back to this time and again over the decades. Always fashionable, and very inexpensive.

salmaloukili

BLIND BUY. At first spray, it smells like anything but rosey and floral, all i get is sharp musk and saffron but it wears off to a less sharp tone with the rose and jasmine.
Very strong and smells like male fragrance to me, comes off too bold and just isn’t my thing.
Would definitely describe it as a grandma fragrance too.

jemly

roxy music's 'in every dream home a heartache' as a perfume. vinyl sex doll stuck frozen in time (that *dusty* rose). sexy, in an unrealized boudoir fantasy kind of way, yet with a sense of humor and wink of the eye. the saffron gives the vinyl suggestion to my nose. magnolia and rose potpourri that has been siting out for way too long and covered in dust.

and this is all a compliment.

I try with this one.. I want to love it because I love AP perfumes but I just can’t. I’m not a fan of sharp soapy rose and that’s what this is. I love the underlying vetiver, saffron and musk but the rose soap just overpowers all that. That’s probably why I’m not a huge rose fan, if not expertly blended with a very light hand, it tends to take over a composition completely. The soapy rose smells exactly like those old fashioned rose shaped soaps people used to display in their fancy powder rooms. I also don’t get the Coriandre comparison, smells nothing alike to me. I love Coriandre but that one isn’t rose forward, it’s more about the herbal/spicy/greenness. I can’t smell coriander in this at all. Oh well, I tried and I’ll probably try again at some point because I’m stubborn but for now, it’s a pass. Excellent silage and longevity

lovesick

dusty roses clamped between trembling teeth. the sweetness of sweat with its sour tinge. rendezvous in a stuffy opium den, heaving chests, heavy breathing amidst the smoke. a fuzzy feather boa cascading down sticky skin. glimpses of leather straps of a garter underneath a dress hugging a pale thigh. a wink, a glint. intimate and seductive, a tiny bit elusive. rings and chains, pins and needles. lace scrapes the ceiling, a large rose hangs in the room. cries of ecstasy echo with mingled scents of bittersweet ruby saffron threads and creamy white petals.

an initial blast of thick musk and saffron, with a sooty rose burnt at the edges trailing behind. a tartness is present from this point onward, bright and citrusy magnolia petals providing a subtle sweetness, pushing and pulling with the dusty rose and animalic undertones. truly, what comes to mind is sweet sweat, the type of sweat only lovers understand. gardenia frolics in the background, helping to ground the composition with its soothing earthiness. tied together by leathery vetiver, we are left with a scent of desire.

I'm absolutely shocked at how much I like this fragrance. Wow. The initial spray was worrisome yet thrilling. I was worried it was "too much", but it's just perfect. I wouldn't say this is a good blind buy.
I love pungent roses and this fits the bill. There's definitely musk and herb in there to round it out.
I've been after rose perfumes and most of the ones recommended are a tea rose....which is nice, but I don't think there's anything like this out there that I've come across yet.
Definitely unique. I was concerned I would smell like a maxi pad or something but it's not like that at all. It's wonderful and sort of complicated.

Okay, I've been wearing this all day. Projection lasts for about 4 hours before becoming more a skin scent; however, I just went outside in slight heat and humidity and I just kept getting wafts or the creamiest skin scent on the breeze. It was just beautiful.

AGENT PROVOCATEUR can be a unisex fragrance from niche perfume perspective.

I smell bunch of sticky pungent roses, slightly powdery jasmine and a little bit of saffron, too. Coriander isn’t listed but noticeable. When it tones down, vetiver and musk really shows.

Is it because of the ingredients such as INDIAN saffron, MOROCCAN rose and EGYPTIAN Jasmine on the Perfume Pyramid ....a vast image of historical exotic tradings from Arabian Sea comes to mind. I noticed the stinky nuance at the top slightly resembling DIPTYQUE OUD PALAO and OUD ISPAHAN by DIOR. Layering experiments with Arabian oud fragrances or vintage spicy designer perfumes would be wonderful so, I ordered AGENT PROVOCATEUR 200ml bottle after using up my 30ml second hand pink porcelain grenade.

annasarahr121

Whoa and WOW!!! Agent Provocateur is STRONG and herbaceous-spicy, dark and medicinal, almost masculine, especially at first spray. It could be immediately off-putting to those perfume lovers not used to super-strong, bitter fragrances, but it's an interesting one and worth waiting out the challenging beginning! It definitely bears a strong resemblance to Jean Couturier Coriandre, but as that one dries down, oddly, I become nose-blind to it, whereas I don't to Agent Provocateur. AP's drydown, after the first 30 minutes or so, is a mix of beautiful soft, rich, dark red roses, along with an earthiness -- a smell of dark, damp soil full of minerals -- as well as a leather smell like a lady's gloves or soft leather handbag. I got a huge, 6.7 fl. oz. bottle for less than $20, so the discounters are practically giving it away. I love that the bottle is shaped like a hand grenade (most of the AP perfumes are), emphasizing the explosive nature of this juice. The gorgeous, vampy Agent Provocateur is definitely worth a try if you sometimes enjoy being challenged by your perfumes, and if you enjoy strong, bitter, mysterious elixirs like Lancome Magie Noire or Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rose (another rose/vetiver like AP)...

Rawantica

This is insane, I smell cardamom(why isn’t it listed?) and other spices and definitely the saffron& amber

I bought a huge 200ml bottle of this ridiculously cheap a few years back. I really wanted to like it, but..it didn't happen entirely. Sprayed it a few times. Maybe it's my skin chemistry, but it just doesn't work on me. This stuff is strong, almost masculine, edgy.. Then I found that the drydown is actually pleasant, the saffron, vetiver and cedar fade and rose gets into the center of attention with musk and amber especially, so the whole scent coctail gets a bit sweeter and less spicy. If it was linear like that and all those initial notes could be omitted so I could jump to this phase straight away, I would give it two thumbs up. This way though I'lk keep it and see how I get on with it..

jeanharlow

Upon initial dab, I knew instantly I have smelled this before on my fabulously glamorous great grandma (in the best way possible). She was essentially a feisty texan red-haired Dolly Parton in Elizabeth Taylors jewels (a "higher the hair, closer to god" type of woman). I think its the spicy rose and vetiver combo. I do not get any dirty panty notes in this at all and I'm genuinely wondering how anyone could. Where others have envisioned a gothic boudoir, I can somehow see that too. Its a timeless spicy rose, sexy but mostly glamorous.

brionica1013

I love the dry-down on this, but not a fan of the opening. I think it's just a bit too strong.

IDreamPurple

After falling head over heels in love with L'Agent, I got this one as a blind buy years ago. I enjoyed it, but never got around to actually wearing it. Now, for some reason, I reached for it around a week ago, and been wearing it ever since almost non-stop. I developed a craving for the musky rose, and the beautiful dry down.
A perfume for a gothic boudoir, with heavy velour curtains and a few candles illuminating the night.

Harrystyles

Got this as a blind buy and I’m not a massive fan cos of the powder. But when I first smelt coco by Chanel (also I blind buy) I got the same powdery vibes, except this is a rose-y powder while coco is a, um, cocoa-ey powder. Idk if this helps but unless you’re buying most of these perfumes as decorations then don’t blind buy. Cant remember how much I paid for it but it was v reasonably priced I think

bel.gravia

A pink fresh rose at the start turns musky dusty spicy and naughty! Definitely a vintage perfume, a modern interpretation, a classic. This is a confident perfume, very strong and long lasting. In some point it reminds me of Gucci Rush... for its character. Unapologetic, brave, fearless, wild. Smells spicy and floral with in AP case - vetiver, GR case - patchouli. A tragedy happened with Gucci Rush, a reformulation which utterly destroyed the original scent, story and appeal of Gucci Rush... I can see AP helping me here!

jaguarundina

this is a fabulous perfume. I bought it right away in 2000 (along with Guerlains Mahora). I remember it was very sexy and it seemed to have a twist, of cumin or oud or something. this all, not being the case, the perfumer is a master(ess) in concocting this sexual perfume par excellence. I also remember meeting someone on my work, a somewhat older lady (well, she was as old as I, the homosexual nurse), and found her the embodiment of precisely this 'Grande' perfume. of course I connected it also with the perfume of his (they were a couple offering sexy lingerie in London) mother, Vivienne Westwood, the perfume Boudoir, which has the same 'targetgroup'. sultry, sexy, whorey perfumes. the 'tweak' to lock the perfume was a bit fetishistic. the colour of aroused skin. yes I loved this perfume and had a full flacon and later, spritzed with silver (silverlike) shoulders. now they HAVE a flacon with 'diamond dust'......I fully agree with Lucritia Darke at all points.

Lucritia darke

This perfume is beautiful, it needs someone with a personality with some strength and self composure, it is definitely not for little girls.
It is sexy, like they say but not in a cheap or shallow way, it's not for perspex heeled strippers with duck pouts and fake boobies, think more woman in a red dress in a board meeting in a room full of Armani suited guys, they all hate her and desperately want her at the same time. There is also a hint of hippy/goth in here, like when you walk into shared earth, that exotic herbal smell of faraway places.
Dont blind buy, but do try, maybe you will like her, maybe you wont, but she wont care, she is very much herself.

xodvm

Oh my gosh this is a scrubber for sure! Another $20 blind buy that I deeply regret. The cedar is extremely strong and the entire scent just comes off as matronly and not sexy at all. Totally headache inducing. It's very sour and cloying. The rose is stale and not fresh at all. When I smell this scent it makes me think of an old, dusty victorian parlour with dead flowers and cobwebs everywhere. I'm not even giving this one away it's going straight into the trash bin.

nuhashuna17

I really like fragrance but VERY POLARISING. My mum and sister said this smells like shit- well they actually said it smelled masculine like an ‘attar’(a very traditional heavy perfume oil). I think this smells like a creamy velvety rose. I have a 10ml but I won’t repurchase as I am scared to wear this! Plus longevity is not great, maybe 2-3hrs. At first it is very strong but very nice after the dry down.
Worth getting the gift set(10ml x2 original AP EDP, 10ml lace noir(my fave), 10ml blue silk). If you find it buy it- don’t buy a big bottle blind for sure

u24masonl

I bought this as a blind buy, enticed by the promises of spice, musk and something sexy. I was also intrigued by the polarised views on here but, having stupidly bought a 200ml bottle in the sale, I'm afraid to say I fall firmly into the latter camp.

When I first sprayed this my immediate thought was "stern, mature lady". It smacks you in the face with a powdery rose scent, shortly followed by a hit of woody spice (saffron, bergamot and a whole load of cedar) on the drydown, which gave me hope that the perfume may balance out after a while, to leave a complex and seductive scent.

Boy was I wrong. After it had settled, it just smelled 'old lady floral', very powdery, and as the other reviews have mentioned, a little bit like urine. It was also very overpowering - so it has great silage at least, if you are looking for that. My partner said it "didn't smell bad - like Parma Violets" which, once he had said it, I could vaguely detect (hidden behind a clumsy big dose of cedar). My 16-year-old stepdaughter wrinkled her nose in disgust and said it "smells like something a head teacher would wear".

I am all for bold, complex and even divisive fragrances, but this sadly lacks in complexity and, in my view, is now the least sexy scent I own. Agent Provocateur has sadly missed the mark here, as I have been left smelling not dissimilar to my 80-year old Great Auntie.

heavenlycreature

Powdery spicy cedar-rose smell with a STRONG animalic musk note. Not a safe blind buy so of course that's what I did. As soon as I got it out of the package I sprayed it on my wrist and I swear it smelled like straight up urine to me. However after about fifteen minutes it settles into a warm, cedary, rosy musk. It is very nice but the rose note is a tad too dusty for my taste- I feel that in the future, I will rarely reach for AP. However, I will keep this in my collection, if not the the sweaty sour-sweet scent, then for the darling baby pink bottle that encases it.

Pair with: opium dens, brut champagne, an older man, rope burns, the thinnest layer of dust on top of a jewelry box, my black suede Courreges bag that I wear like twice a year.

peanutbuttercups

A powdery and spicy rose. An odd combination, perhaps, but one that works quite well!

I personally prefer AP's 'Maitresse', but the original scent is still worth checking out (especially if you can buy it at a good price- online I was recently able to buy an 100ml bottle for under $30, which is incredible value). Sillage and longevity are both good on this one- I actually prefer to spray this about an hour before I go out, so it has some time to settle and so I don't offend anyone who is particularly sensitive to heavy musks.

I agree with some other reviewers that this does smell slightly 'vintage'- it has a classic, powerhouse scent that I tend to associate with more mature fragrances, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It smells mature in a sophisticated manner, not in an old, fuddy-duddy sort of way.

crystal_noir

I’ve been having amazing luck with my blind buys recently, and that includes Agent Provocateur. It’s cheap enough to buy and give away if you don’t like it, so I say try it.

Anyways, do *not* spray this on you right before you leave the house. You must let it settle onto your skin! The initial spritz is overpowering and not very pleasant. Too musky, too in your face, too old Grandma-like. However, let it develop for an hour or two and if you’re lucky it will have blossomed into a stark but creamy rosy musk. Very sexy. You only need two sprays. I spray on my neck/chest, then my wrists and dab behind my ears. Anything more is overkill. A nighttime fragrance obviously. For reference I am 27 and I wouldn’t have worn this while in college. Too mature.

I got it during quarantine so the only man to have smelled it on me was my ex and he liked it. Looking forward to wearing it on my Tinder dates once Covid gets under control.

pandasniffs

I was both intrigued and frightened to buy this after reading reviews. I did, and I have to agree that this is by no means a fail-safe. It's a perfume that makes you work hard to understand it, but in my opinion it's worth it once you do! For me AP is a soft, dry, not at all sweet, almost parma-violet-esque rose, but one which is also 'dark'. Not 'dark' as in oudy, smoky or 'heavy' in the conventional way, but through the quite gothic atmosphere it evokes. I would say this is more sensual, perhaps sexual, than 'sexy'. The opening, as others have commented, is admittedly rather unfriendly - wait 20 mins at least to pass judgement!

Calliope8

As a few other reviewers have stated: this is NOT a blind-buy purchase. AP (I have the original formulation) is an exceedingly forward and smack-you-in-the-face seductive frag. Definitely rose-dominant, but also quite musky and berry. It’s, shall we say, a scent that overtly signals desire, and it conjures memories of a “memorable” romp. AP is overwhelming, and not really meant to be worn casually. I could imagine it offending those who are sensitive to heavy, musky scents. That said, I think it’s gorgeous, particularly for special nights out, or in.

Aliciaenelespejo

I have to blind buy most of my perfumes and i was so afraid with this polarizing scent.
It is really lovely! I'm so happy i decided to buy it!
You have to like vintage scents to like this one, but this is easier than the real ones. I feel it's a Paloma Picasso for dummies: If you find that one interesting, but too much for you, AG is The One. I'm very grateful for this because that is just my case.
I believe this is a very femenine perfume; it evoques an archetype of woman's beauty: La femme fatale.
I guess the hate for this perfume comes from being so different from mainstream scents (this infantilizing candyland era in which we are trapped)

I supose new batches have lower quality because mine does not last that long and it's not that strong either: I can wear several sprays and nobody around me feels offended by it.

RossanaJ

This fragrance is just beautiful and it lasts (for a change) on my skin! i never get tired of it. It projects as well , - people keep telling me "you smell nice". Its so sexy, sweet, spicy but in a good way! love it!!!!

evapap181977

yesterday i opened an new botlle of this...for about a year i didnt wear it ...so excited by my new purchases i neglected it.i also got NR for her recently which i mentioned in my first review that i find them almost identical but this more affordable.smelling them together i say that this is deeper and sexier in a dirty way while NR remains sexy but it stays clean and its ideal for every time, place ,situation and seasons.AP is strictly a nightime perfume made for seduction.truly one of the best perfumes i smell and own

curlykitty8

I haven't worn this amazing perfume in 10 years and I honestly had forgotten what an incredibly beautiful this fragrance is.
Maybe I have been fortunate and managed to purchase a "good" bottle but in any case, this is a jewel. The rose is soft and tender while the saffron and white flowers envelop it in a sensuous embrace.
The first spray is off putting but immediately it settles into a delicate cloud of unique beauty. It certainly befits the brand from which it came, sexy lingerie!

PS Many compare AP to Coriandre and I can only assume it is the current formula with which they compare this lovely fragrance. The original was far more intense due to the lack of restrictions on its sumptuously gorgeous notes!

rasputin1963

I was kind of surprised by the opening: three-days' worn pee-pee panties smell, before the musty roses and whatnot ever emerge.

Hypatia22

I smelt what I thought was this years ago at the store, fell in love, went back a few months later and couldn't find it anywhere. Bought it online , only to find a very synthetic smell. Did I smell a different agent? I remember it was pink and smelt like flowerbomb somehow. Any ideas which one it was?

BettinaFox

STRONG rose and musk with the other floral notes and vetiver in the background. I don't smell saffron, amber or cedar here, rose is so dominant.
Not a safe blind buy.

meg0825

I'm so glad I recently discovered Agent Provocateur fragrances. Very sexy scents that are super affordable. The original AP is a deep and sensual dirty rose chypre. Very musky and woody. It definitely has a vintage vibe.
I like it!

CarlottaMarie

I had to rewrite my review because my relationship with this one has been complicated. I initially thought I hated this because I initially bought the menage a trois purse size. Now, I'm not sure if it was a bad batch or if that one has a different formula, but that one smelled to awful on me. Sour, sharp, sickly and just off... I then purchased the large 100ml bottle. Amazing. I got what I expected from it. Deep rich florals with an animalic base. A sexy boudoir scent. It reminds me a tiny bit of SJP Lovely, but more expensive and intense smelling and with more of a rose base rather than lavender. I've been reaching for it over basically everything else lately. So good! The only downside for me is that in only lasts a few hours, but for the price point that's not a huge deal.

Sirène Cryptique

My reviews are generally not a break down of notes, there are plenty of those to read, rather they are emotional in nature, as that is what perfume really is for me; feelings, shifting moods, a deep dive into the psyche.

Agent Provocateur…
I am seduced by the bottle alone; the pink, softly curving roundness. A Veneration of Venus.
W O M A N, it emanates… Contrasting the darkly delicate, romantic, swirling cursive.

The feelings & nostalgia of this perfume bring tears to my eyes. I remember seeing it in a woman’s sacred stash of girly things, many moons ago, for whom I have deepest respect, longer than any other; a luminary Soul, always shining brightly in the sometimes overwhelming darkness of the world. Recently possessed to repurchase a 75ml 'Porcelain Edition' with the heavy black tassel (rather than the regular ribbon + also comes in a lovely cylindrical box) of this provoking pink potion, perfect as the witching season draws near, the veil between worlds thinning as I bind pentacles of willow branch & blushing, plush silks, slipping into trances. Enveloping myself in a ritual misting, being instantly & intimately reminded of all the qualities I most respect in a woman; Deep dreams & Magick. Loyalty. Truth. One whose words are as a tightly drawn bow, flawlessly piercing the heart of her target.

After having a mini years ago, I was impressed that even that size came in a porcelain bottle with an actual atomizer. Apparently the use of porcelain & quality was scarified in newer bottles, so I read. Heartbreaking. This perfume conjures such a juxtaposition of imagery for me; equal parts Virgin Mary purity, encircled in a halo of holy roses & the most sophisticated, well-read, soulful, naturally buxom brunette bombshell sitting high on a hotel balcony overlooking a glittering Eiffel Tower in the distance, drinking pink champagne, with strawberries & creme, living a most epic-yet-simultaneously-cozy & quaint life. It smells of dreams. Of highest self. & Like a woman who takes the boudoir very seriously. I am so happy to have it in my collection again, reformulated or not.

To the “old woman”, urine/piss comments, I am not offended, but rather amused, laughing. Your impression of the perfume says more about you than it does the perfume itself, the same of all reviews. If you come from smelling easy, gourmand, fruity florals to this, there is a good chance you will recoil, at first. Come back & try it later in life, or further along in your perfume journey, when you’re bored to death with all those things that are simply made to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Or don’t. ;)

Agent Provocateur is purposely unique, meant for those who stand strong in their uniqueness.

Bonnie00

This one is tricky, because it really depends on your body chemistry. On me, it works. Musky rose, with a bit of spice and sweetness. Very, very sexy. Moderate performance, but it does the job. I think this is one that you wear around others, not just for your own pleasure. I've also heard that on some people, it smells like urine and Claire's. For me, 7.5 out of 10. I'd say don't blind buy.

Shinara

A very noticeable, sharp and animalic perfume for confident women who knows exactly what she wants. Have it for a while but use it not that often cause every single time I wear it I'm afraid to make some other people sick. Better and safer to wear it cold weather outdoor. Inside it could for some people be to much. Surprisingly my boyfriend finds this scent pleasant and quiet sexy. Be careful to overdose it. I spray it only on my wrists. Ones I spread it in my hair and it was to much to handle. It's love or hate perfume but definitely for everyone in their collection.

P. S.
After a while not wearing it I decided to spray today it on and God, I missed it!!! It love and hate parfum at the same time. Sometimes I spray it on the top of some sweet parfum oil and it makes the scent more wearable.

September 2023.
The perfume is sold. I prefer more wearable scents.

tessiebee

I got a purse spray size as a blind buy. I'm assuming this is the reformulated version. It's quite nice!

I get a soft musky dried rose, like the bits of petal you find in some rose soaps but I think the Amber and dry vetiver save it from smelling too old fashioned.

I don't get any sharp notes, everything is muted, dried and lightly crumbly/ powdery.

It's not exciting or energizing. Remove the citrus from Stella, add the vetiver from Nirvana rose. You get something in the middle of the two.

giggle_butt

My friend LOVED this and for her husband this is apparently a full on boner inducing bottle of sex. On her this is a well blended sexy musky frag.

On me? Nope. Not even close. Instead of a musky blend I get a SHARP version of the notes. I don't even know what the notes are; fruity, floral, sweet? No clue. On me it just smells vaguely acidic. No surprise that the performance is poor on me as well, since my skin seems to be absorbing a lot of the notes.

bintTapputi

Wow this is not for me. Old dusty things + Urine, as the comments repeat? Accurate. I was doubtful, considering there is almost as much praise that would say otherwise. But I fear, no, on my skin, this is quite repulsive. It doesn't even have a base that I can reliably cling to, it's musky and heavily powdery -a combination that remains wholly unappealing to me. 3/10

TexasOrangeBlossom

A rather generic rose and musk. Smells “old school” and like a bath and body product. My mini might end up in a perfume bath.

qofb

My advice is: Do not blind buy this!

I bought a bottle from eBay thinking "wow, those reviews are mixed, maybe I'll be one of those who love this?". Let me tell you, I didn't.

The bottle I bought spilt in the mail so admittedly my first sniff was a big one. That it spilt was bad enough but the scent, ugh. It is as some people have already said, like old roses with wee. The rose smells heavy and powdery like a rose talcum powder kept for 40 years in a musty bedroom drawer. The magnolia, gardenia and jasmine do not add anything positive, just that faint whiff of urine.

I am a geneticist and understand that odour receptor genetics mean we all judge scents slightly differently so it's likely that some people just smell this fragrance differently to others, but this is a "no no no" and "glad that it spilt in the mail" from me! It was never going to make it onto my dressing table.

Update: Not all of the perfume had spilt. I tried a spray from the bottle and actually, even though the initial spray is very very unpleasant with respect to the urine note, it settles into just a powdery dark dusky rose. It's actually very pleasant. Maybe people's polarised opinions are partly due to how much of the fragrance people use or how long they let it settle?

emerson10

I purchased this as an 18 year old virgin, who thought this might help my chances. Personally thought it smelled like the perfect combination of old person, urine, and something I couldn't quite put my finger on.

Thought I'd see if it worked. I'll never forget spraying this before a pregame and my girlfriends were like "ew," and I was like, "no you just wait, you'll see." Well a few minutes later, we arrived at this guy's apartment, and like moths to a (skanky) candle, they all swarmed me and were like, "wow you smell amazing." My friends and I shot glances at each other cracking up.

Did I lose my virginity that night? NO, lol. But in hindsight, I now know what that unrecognizable smell was: sex.

WHO I PICTURE THIS ON:
Anyone who needs to break a dry spell. Personally I recommend layering this on top of whatever your wearing. It is SO strong, that I'd say, put on your regular perfume as you do, then spray this in the air, and walk through it. I wouldn't put it directly on skin. It's THAT pungent.
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY.

missmermaid

I’ve worn this perfume since its launch date in London, when it was made by the original founders and they had one store in Soho. It was one of the first blind buys I had ever made, and I remember opening it at my desk at work when it was delivered, and it blew my mind!

Today I just opened my 4th bottle, and I dug out 2 old bottles to compare. (My 3rd old bottle is packed away in storage, unfortunately.) So here’s my review.

I was able to get a spray out of the original bottle, which is porcelain- not coloured glass. On the bottom of the bottle it has the shop postcode of W1 London. It simply says 1.66 fl oz, e50ml. The batch number is C3451. Clearly the perfume has aged, it’s 20 years old. But even so, it is so WILDLY different from the newer formulations, it is an entirely different beast. The original formulation is so spicy, so sexual- like sweaty bedsheets and amber, and a ghost of crushed roses. It is so rich and deep, and it is unlike anything I have ever smelled before or after. A masterpiece that would reign amoungst any Malle fragrance.

The second bottle (which is actually really my third purchase of AP) was made by Inter Perfumes USA, the batch number is 15120. It has aged beautifully, though it is absolutely a reformulation of the original and lacks the depth or carnality. It is very rosey, with a spicy, woody warmth- like opening an antique chest in a boudoir; full of old love letters, silk robes, Jasmine incense and a delicious wiff of the plastic of a new Barbie doll. The throw is wonderful. It’s a truly fabulous batch.

The fourth bottle received today is the monster 200ml/ 6.7oz bottle. Still made by Inter Perfumes USA, batch HF08. I have to say it is a complete and bitter disappointment. Comparing it to the original is a joke. The two are night and day, have ZERO similarities. My 13 year old daughter sniffed all three versions on my skin and didn’t realise they were even supposed to be the same fragrance!! Today’s sample is much lighter- alarmingly so. It’s like smelling a “junior” or “miss” edition of the perfume! Where are the animalistic notes?? This is all powder and rose air freshener! The spice is gone, perhaps a gingerbreadman smoking a pipe farted in the vicinity 15 minutes ago; but that’s it. It now smells clean, fresh, sanitised. Victoria’s Secret..... not BDSM opium den.

I don’t even know what to say. And now I’m stuck with a giant bottle paperweight and depressing memories of what it once was and could have been. The original bottle was quite expensive, and the perfume maker and AP insisted on high quality oils and light-proof porcelain for preservation. The newer bottles are spraypainted pink glass with the name stamped on via heat transfer. Says it all really.

Worst. Blind-buy. Ever.

Based on the notes and the reviews, I expected to love this, so I bought a miniature-pack containing 3 Agent Provocateur EdP's: Blue Silk, Lace Noir and this one, the original. I even got a small sample 3-pack EdT's: Maitresse, L'Agent and the original AP. That's 6 Agent Provocateur scents and all of them smell like one thing: OLD. Just. Old. Different variations of old. Sad and weak and cheap. Pungent, even. I scrubbed this one off after half an hour, just like I scrubbed off Blue Silk. Lace Noir I didn't even put on my skin, because I hated it sooo much on paper. The only EdT I could stand was Eau Provocateur, but Eau Provocateur doesn't resemble the original EdP much.

My 7th scent of Agent Provocateur, a real, honest-to-goodness 30ml bottle Fatale Intense (also a blind buy) doesn't read like 'old', but it does have that same weakness. Cheap. Low quality. Not especially terrible, but it is a rather bland vanilla scent.

My fiance isn't a big fan of any of these 7 scents either. He doesn't hate them, but he also doesn't think they're great. His eyes don't light up the way they do with other scents I own that he does consider very good and/or sexy. Here's the secret (or so I think): he doesn't know the Agent Provocateur scents are from a sexy lingerie brand. He blind-smelled them and told me his honest opinion. I'm sure if you let a man smell something while surrounded by pictures of hot models (or even the faintest daydream that he might get to do you while you wear a garter belt and fine black stockings), he'd be inclined to love whatever. That's marketing, my friend.

After his verdict, I told Fiancé that this scent is supposedly very sexy. He really didn't like this EdP version, but for the EdT version (Eau Provocateur) he could see why it could be considered a fuckscent (his word, not mine). That doesn't suddenly lift a scent from OK to mouth-watering though.

I'm starting to get the overall impression that Agent Provocateur scents are sub-par. They don't cost a whole lot because they really are cheaply made. And so they smell cheap. Cheap and old. Like if drugstores sold celebrity scents for famous dead people. The disappointment is real.

Dotti

I wonder whether this fragrance is very batch dependent, based on the reviews. I'm a fan of rose fragrances but this one I cannot stand. To me, it sums up old. Like a house which has had the same dusty carpet for several decades and the stench of urine which couldn't be removed, so someone has tried to disguise it with rose-scented air freshener.

It's so sharp that it gives me a scratchy throat.

Beautinsuccess

Blind buy, Overpowering rose dries down to an ok scent but, like a bar of old English or french rose soap. This Smells like an old lady initially had to way too much rose and spice.

I have to layer with Victoria's Secret Gold Struck lotion and body spray to add fruity and citrus notes make it smell 10x's better and a lot more youthful.

I would wear to church maybe work in the Fall & winter. Otherwise this isn't for me I usually mix my fragrances well will find something to mix it with and will update.

jubuluxe

The only fragrance I love from them. feel sexy wearing them. Defiantly associate seduction with their brand!

I would say is edgy , bossy and naughty

Joys of life

Love it. I have an older sample which I found again today. It’s beautiful - this would be a very easy everyday wear since it's not an assertive perfume. Sillage is gentle, but noticeable. It doesn't read spicy at all to me.

It smells like a ritzy face lotion - there's definitely an oily vibe which is rather dry and velvety, with a kind of dried rose nuance over it. I also detect a good amount of vetiver and I could swear there's a touch of patchouli here despite the notes.

I recommend smelling the sillage rather than the spot sprayed to experience this. Also - I'm going off 2 sprays, one on the chest, one on the wrist and rubbed together. I think this is best experienced with a light hand.

BananaonSpeed

I don't understand people describing this as sexy. I completely agree with the previous review - it smells like old, dead roses. Not even roses that have dried nicely. More like slightly damp, rotten roses. There is a dustiness to this fragrance and something akin to mildew.

While I find that some fragrances might not be my thing, I can still appreciate the work of art that they are and see how someone else might like them but I don't understand this one at all.

Linnealicia

I don't know what I was thinking when I blind bought this one. To me, It smells like old dead flowers and a little like urine. I showed my mom this perfume and said that it might get better when the top notes disappear and my mom, who likes floral perfumes, answered: "there's no saving this one, it's awful".

Hate to make such a negative review but this just deeply repulse me :(

MadamNijinsky

I can see why this has been called a cheap alternative to Portrait of a Lady, since the rose is strong with this one. But it seems sharper/spicier to my nose, probably because Portrait is so well-blended. Overall I like it, but then I generally like the other scents that went into it. As a sum of its parts, I can enjoy it.

On the other hand, don't come to this looking for a version of Portrait that will be easier on your wallet. Portrait is very mild-mannered, darker and more mature compared to this, which is much louder and demands attention. So I guess you could call this a younger, angrier version of Portrait, something you'd recommend to a young woman who likes rose and spice but is afraid of smelling too old. This has the rose and the spice but has a more age-appropriate vibe.

NellNellsNose

So sad about this one. It came highly recommended by many when I was on a perfect rose hunt. I smell ZERO rose. None. Zip. Zero. I take my boyfriends opinions on fragrance usually with a grain of salt. But this one he nailed it! “Babe ew I hate it, smells like BURNT HAIR”

Couldn’t agree more.

tandem_4x4

If someone smells pesticide in this, can you please give me the name of that amazing pesticide, I will switch to use it.

I think this one is love/hate perfume. When I wear it I get a lot of compliments, and when I ask what it smells, people say it smells beautifully clean body. I feel myself deep rose + clean something. I am still using my old bottle prior to Interperfumes editions, but I tried recent in the shops - it is still the same.

It is probably the most compliment taker in my collection. However it is rather strong and I do not wear it very often. Also using it by spraying in the air and then letting cloud to fall on me.

full_of_colours

This fragrance is very chemistry dependant. I am one of the lucky ones who get this big lush rose, seductive musk and enough herbs and spices to make it intriguing. The saffron note is attractive as well. My significant other really enjoys this one. I often receive unexpected compliments when wearing it. Get a sample and find out if this sexy little beast loves you.

anna-fie

It’s a very soapy scent.
A strong soap to my nose - like the soap bar called Dove

KK216

Disgusting.

JacquieDS

I saw some bad reviews below of this fragrance being called as pesticides etc.
Maybe there has been a formulation change?
I bought mine in early 2017. Its a dusty seductive dark rose musk....
It got better after I had it for a year.
I would like a backup but too afraid to get a new lemon from the below reviews.
Has anyone bought a recent to compare with their older version?

Danira7

Mmm. Sexy. A little goes a l-o-n-g way. A very appropriate name for this fragrance. I owned Coriandre years ago and loved it, but I don't recall what it smelled like - several reviewers compared A.P. to it. Does anyone know where I can get the body cream? It's the A.P. I owned initially, and it's a bit more subtle.

perfumeninja

The other day I was reminded that I had a small bottle of this perfume tucked away and forgot about it.

I got it out to do a sniff test and it reminded me of something...
EL Knowing? So I put a tiny micro dot of Knowing parfum on my wrist and nope! Not Knowing.
Then it struck me! Maroc!

It does have a lot of the same characteristics as the juice in my bottle of Ultima II Maroc but Maroc is the older, huskier voiced sister of AP.

Both are beautiful perfumes and not usually ones I wear but if the mood strikes there's nothing like dotting on a beautiful stunner such as AP.

It isn't a sexy scent to my nose but it makes me feel "fancy." Definitely a perfume when you want to feel high class and refined like going to a ballet or the symphony.

TallulahBea

"Agent Provocateur" was my signature fragrance for several years and used to get me lots of compliments when I wore it. I am quite surprised to read it causes such controversy! To me it is a feminine, gentle rose with warm soft wood fragrance in the dry down, although at initial spray slightly harsh. I don't get the animalic side at all, and although I still like it, I wouldn't really describe it as daring or sexy.
My husband has a really poor sense of smell, and never notices perfumes, but I think this is the only fragrance that I have ever worn that he compliments me on! So maybe there is something there that I just can't sense!

ViouAmara

Must laugh reading the bad reviews. How many times should we write this is an agressive nasty animal, potent, sexual (and not « sexy », honey) and NOT A SAFE BLIND BUY⚠️!
If you don’t take your time it will bite you, like a wicked weasel.
This being said I’m addict and wears it (two nuclear drops) very often.

It’s a love/hate affair.

Bad_Girl_Bex

This was everywhere in women's magazines when it first came out. I remember reading about it, back when I didn't know anything about notes or sillage or any frag-related terminology. All I knew was that I enjoyed perfumes and had done for as long as I could remember. All the hype surrounding this perfume reeled me in, making me believe that this was going to be a truly exotic, sexy fragrance. I couldn't wait to try it.

Then one day I saw a bottle on a relative's dressing table, bubbled over with excitement and begged her to let me try it. She just shrugged, said sure, it's nothing special and I did the usual two squirts onto my left wrist, wafted it around in the air and then the scent hit me.

WTF? Shockingly disappointed doesn't even go near to describing the annoying let-down I was experiencing. THIS is the 'super-sexy, seductive elixir' I had been longing to try? REALLY? Get the frick out of here! Now in case anyone is thinking that my younger, immature, less knowledgeable nose just wasn't accustomed to headier, more grown-up scents, that's really not the case. I'd been wearing my mum's perfumes since I was 3 (lol) and at high school I would happily rock up to physics wearing Coco, Opium & Obsession just as much as I loved my White Musk, Monsoon or Vanilla Fields. I've always loved fragrances and I've always had widely eclectic tastes.

But this stinker? No thank you m'am. It was immediately cloying, moving onto fetid and ending in a dismal dry-rot waft. Maybe it was the rose, but I have a few scents with strong rose notes that I absolutely love. It just sat on my wrist, kicking out an absolute abomination of something akin to dead flowers that really ought to have been thrown out a week ago. I'd like to say that it was just my particular skin chemistry, but the relative who owned it didn't like it much either. She'd received it as a gift from a family member and whilst she didn't hate it like I did, she was pretty ambivalent to what she thought was a boring old lady-ish scent.

To this day I still cannot believe the rave reviews this hate potion receives. I mean sure, each to their own and all that, but I find it incredulous that this could ever be anyone's favourite fragrance. Maybe if you like smelling like Miss Havisham, rotting away in her mouldy wedding dress, then by all means, knock yourself out. But whatever you do, DO NOT BLIND BUY! If you do, you might just end up wanting to get 'Caveat Emptor' tattooed on the inside of your eyelids for future reference.

peonies and musk

I wonder why coriander isn't listed on the perfume pyramid..?

This perfume smells like a mixture of gasoline, multipurpose cleaner, antibacterial soap, and a memory of a time of my life or a place I've been that I can't remember. It's driving me nostalgic and I love it. I can't stop sniffing my hand. No, this perfume doesn't smell like rose and no it's not a safe blind buy, but it's not nearly as unwearable or dirty as some of the other reviews would suggest. You might not get compliments but you won't smell impolite. AP is a strange duck though. I love her already.

Edit: received a compliment!

katgirl76

OMG, this stuff is amazing. I didn't think I liked rose in perfume, but as soon as I smelled this one, with the glorious saffron and musk all over the place, I was in love. Vetiver and cedar, glorious white flowers, what's not to love! This has pretty good performance overall, and my husband loves it.

After I realized that I did like some rose in perfumes, I went on to buy Club de Nuit Intense by Armaf as well as Rose Anonyme by Atelier Cologne which are quite similar, yet wonderfully different. Rose rules.

mystica

I finished my vintage (2006) bottle today and I can't tell you how good this smells... Getting better with age, the similarity to Coriandre is evident, I realized today. However Agent Provocateur has a much more modern, superb, distinctively boudoir tone which perfectly reflects the best and most sexiest lingerie designs on earth: AP itself... In that, the perfume deserves its name 100% and fulfills its promise.

IMHO, AP is a fetish perfume, just like the lingerie. It's not the everyday kind, it has a definite twisted edge which (on the right chemistry) grabs attention, is loved and gets you compliments.

Years ago, I've written a review on this perfume, as to in which way it smells so sexy to the point of being obscene. I mean I've never smelt anything which would be 18+ in that way...

Apart from that, can something with a dirty undertone smell so regal and royal? Yes... Can a smell relax and comfort you so much and at the same time conjure an image enough to make one weak in the knees? Yes... This is it.

If you can, do hunt for a vintage bottle and don't lose time with reformulations which suck.

northstar

Very sexy. I must always have this. I have a very large, oversized bottle and may still get a second, the price is reasonable. This is to me the scent of a sexy woman, lady killer, assertive but classy. Suits the brand perfectly. I don't use it often enough, strictly because I am so often in gym clothes and my work is in a holistic health type field, so it doesn't fit. But anytime in more office type professional wear or a sexy evening dress, it is a perfect choice. I would personally wear it during the day without hesitation if it matches my clothing. Nothing "old lady" about it, but very much "woman". I would describe it as a sharp, aggressive, musky floral that is unashamed to be feminine and unapologetic.

cmoca

To me this is akin to La Perla original, but I find la perla projects better and lasts even longer, whereas this is more a skin scent on me.

YesVeruca

Not a safe blind buy...I read it in the reviews but did I listen? I’d been to AP in Soho a few times, I’ve smelled several of their scents and own quite a few, surely for me this is a ‘safe’ blind buy. I didn’t remember it being overwhelming. I really didn’t remember anything about it at all. So imagine my surprise when I opened it and thought it MUST be a joke. Surely I couldn’t hate something this much. I forced myself to spray it on the back of my hand and eventually the dry down became a tolerable rose with powder but oh the effort it took to do that. I’m almost afraid of this scent-it’s going to languish in the back of my closet to hide my shame of blind buying when I was told not to.

churinl

It's funny how one fragrance can so closely resemble another and you would never make the connection without it being pointed out! In this case, it's how similar AP is to Coriandre! Maybe it's because AP is significantly heavier than Coriandre. I would easily wear Cori during the day, especially in spring and summer, whereas I would have to spray A0 V E R Y lightly during the daytime, and think I would find it too much for spring and summer. AP is very musky, and not a clean musk either, unlike Cori, and yet the similarity is right there! I like both of them quite a bit, but can completely understand how AP can turn some folks off, especially given the effect of skin chemistry. I did have to laugh though when I realized how alike the two are, and in my opinion, that's what the "Reminds me of" option is for as opposed to listing a bunch of flankers!

cmoca

Nice drydown of rosewood, like a smooth bar of dove soap.

effielab

I received my new bottle yesterday. So different from what I remember since I was wearing it, about twelve years ago. Lighter and more conventional. Nice though. But it is not the seductive, animalic fragrance I loved.

Anamandy

Mine is made my Interparfums too and it is wonderful.

I know I had to do a proper review of this scent but was so blown away the first time I smelled that all I could do was gush about how wonderful I think it is. It does start out sharp. The sharpness reminds me very much of La Perla Parfum Prive in that it almost smells like it’s gone off on first spray, or as some would say - bug spray. But where Parfum Privee smells off for a long time before evolving into a gorgeous fragrance, here that sharpness disappears relatively quickly, that is, unless you overspray, but more on that later.
Within 10 minutes that off, sharp note is gone and the florals softly come in soon followed by the deepest, darkest, yet dusty, musky, powdery rose I’ve ever smelled in a perfume. On me, this rose is soft and romantic. Sexy? Maybe in the right setting. I wore it in the daytime and it was lovely, and soft, and perfect. Everyone I encountered, both men and women, loved it. A young man who works with me exclaimed when he came near me, “Ah, you smell so beautiful! Amazing!!!” Funny, because he never seemed to notice anything else I ever wore – and barely a day goes by where I don’t wear perfume.
This fragrance evolves very slowly over the course of many hours but the rose is always present, right after the opening sharpness subsides to the dry down where it ends in a sweet rose skin scent with a hint of raspberry. In between it’s gone through many phases (not necessarily in this order) of spicy, smoky, musky, earthy, powdery, ending in that sweet, soft musky slightly fruity rose.
One thing I definitely recommend with this fragrance is less is more. For me, any more than 2 sprays at a time feels too much. (2 is usually perfect.) Instead of getting gentle, subtle wafts it will feel like you’re surrounded by a brick wall embedded with sharp thorns with no where to go except the sink. Overspray at your own peril.

I love powerful fragrances . I do not love fragrances that smell like pesticides , nor cleaning fluids . This perfume used to be made by Agent Provacateur , and I believe they sold out to Proctor and Gamble. Perhaps the new manufacturer changed the formula under the Inter Perfumes label .

“Understand the beauty of the divine scent “? Perhaps the divine scent has been changed from the one you own now.

tandem_4x4

Those who left bad reviews on this fragrance - try not to pour it on you: this is a very potent fragrance. If I pour it on myself like other fragrances it will cut my breath and I would probably hate it.

Spray it in the air and walk into the cloud. Or put just one little spray on you wrist and distribute it to the areas where you normally spray.

Hope after that you will understand the beauty of this divine perfume.

PS: I checked my bottle - it is made by Selective Beauty in UK. So everything I said above is about AP made in UK.

I also have two spare unpacked bottles - they are made by Interparfums. I really hope they are the same.

I checked Interparfums web-site, they are based in USA and own many perfume brands, including AP, i.e. AP sold their perfumes to a brand owner who now decides what will be issued as AP perfumes. Since they are in a perfume business, seems all their new issues will be for commercial success and oriented for mass market. So I do not expect anymore anything special from AP as the owner of AP, son of Vivienne Westwood is not involved in AP perfumes anymore.

annxyz

I was eager to receive this and am shocked with the contents. It does not smell blah or weak; it smells sickening . This smells literally like a strong pesticide sprayed around public parks when I was a child. It is vile, though like most perfumes available today it has lovely packaging .

It also lasts for a while, but the small is quite offensive . I can’t believe this is supposed to be perfume because it smells like a toxic chemical , seriously .

My bottle is made by Inter Perfumes and is from batch 17166 .

I am beginning to think that the most foolish purchase a person can make is perfume . There are too many losers and disasters sitting in pretty bottles creating false illusions .

Very disappointing , and I think I will skip my planned purchase of Coriandre now. Or maybe any other perfumes .

Kaleidosaur

Blind buy based on reviews as it seemed to be right up my alley, and how right was I! I love love love this one. I feel like it is a chameleon of sorts - safe for work and a night out kind of scent at the same time. It is the less sophisticated and younger version of Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDP; if you like one, you will like the other. Although patchouli is not a listed note, the drydown clearly reminds me of the patchouli essential oil I used to wear as a perfume.

I don't understand why it is described as dirty/skanky here, I think it smells pretty clean.

anne.1

The last on this makes it a stunner and although its name suggests an arresting fragrance I am enchanted by its grace. A sumptuous fragrance that lifts lightly from the skin deepening until finally softening into perfection. Love its safron start and its drydown into an elegant sweep of pure bliss in white floral, woody musk. Scent lingers for hours mellowing into a dizzying attractive gracefulness.

Tamsos valdove

Did not like it at all. Just not for me. Gives me short breath.

Psyogi

Having read all of the phenomenal reviews on here of AP, I thought it was worth a shot and ordered a bottle from their website. Whilst I can say the bottle is impressive and a work of art, the elixir inside did not work with my chemistry . . . nor my best friend's chemistry . . . nor my brother's chemistry . . . nor the neighbor, and everyone else I tried to cajole into taking the bottle off my hands. I wound up donating it to Goodwill - it smelled that bad.

HOW BAD? Well, imagine you are walking the boardwalk along the Pacific Ocean near Belmont Shore in Southern California on a brisk Fall morning as the sun rises. Running toward you are five strapping young men wearing what appear to be a college's or university's track team uniforms. As they run past towards you, it is evident they've been running awhile because you can see the darker sweat marks on their uniforms. These young men are sweating and panting; and as they run past you, an overpowering smell of sweaty armpit slaps you in the face and lingers in your nostrils.

The smell is so sour, salty, and rancid, it borders on the aroma of bile escaping one's mouth prior to upchucking. Frantically, you search your jacket and yoga pants for that emergency sanitized moist towelette you snagged from a seafood restaurant a few weeks back. You find it and in your haste to tear the packet open to wipe under your nose, the towelette drops into the vegetation that is growing near the boardwalk. You pray there is no cat-pee or dog-pee in the vegetation but you know better.

Alas, you find your towelette and it now smells like the familiar alcohol and chemical fragrance that resembles "clean." As you're ferociously wiping away the rancid sweaty armpit smell from your nostrils, you discover that in fact, the towelette indeed did fall into animal urine.

That is what Agent Provocateur smelled like on me and others I tried to gift with the bottle.

Ginzao

This is an oldie but a goodie. With the right chemistry, this is SEX IN A BOTTLE. I got lucky and this meshed with my chemistry. In fact, meshed so well that I only wear it when I want to seduce someone. So warning, you'll smell like sex and men will fall to your feet, not kidding! If you wear this while you're out and about, the unsolicited male attention will get annoying. Wear it ONLY for "targeted" someone on a date when you want him to loose his mind. Even my mom has a bottle, it's a secret weapon I'm telling you ;). Shhhh, don't tell.....

tandem_4x4

It was my signature night scent for more than 10 year. Recently I got new interest in perfumery so started trying other new perfumes and left one in the drawer. Today I found that I forgot how it smells and dug it out.

It's a strong rose perfume and I never realised it is so strong on rose. The rose is very mature, almost dying dark red rose, which generates sweetness from dying, its not fresh. It is powdery dark dusty rose, like thick vintage deep dark red velvet corset.

The other aspect of perfume is its animalistic accords. For me now it smells group post coital. Very heavy. This note may sound rather masculine.

And all these strange combination is spiced with coriander and saffron, which give to perfume clean crispy sharpness.

Now it smells for me a very expensive well established brothel with curvy workers who never would say "no" to any customer's request. Very expensive and very sexy naughtiness. It smells like if a woman who wears it would never work and only busy with self indulgence (or indulging others special) from dusk to down. I can not imagine she would have kids or even drive a car. She probably never open curtains in her bedroom.

Ironically, when I was wearing it in the past and people made compliments to me on this, they were saying it smells like clean skin (off course after couple of hours of wearing). I mostly got compliments from women (and the most loud one was from a lesbian woman).

Definitely not a blind buy. More than 2 sprays will kill you first and then others around you. I think this one is good to spray in the air and then walk in that cloud. Needs time to understand how it sits on you and let your brain to get used to it. Not for a day wear.

Punkrockbebop

I believe this might be the most overtly sexual perfume I’ve ever smelled. Very animalic musky powdered rose with gardenia, jasmine, magnolia, spicy saffron, and vetiver (instead of oakmoss, which would take it into more old fashioned territory, though this does seem to be a take on classical perfumes). It’s good, really good. Smells like what I imagine a Victorian prostitute might wear to solicit clients. I mean this in the best possible way. Spritz lightly, it’s powerful.

Selena

Agent P,
The bottle barely fits into my palm, it's a 200ml POWERFUL edp.
I've had this for a long time,
With all honesty she's a perfume I'm scared to apply, very loud - very long lasting!
My first time spraying this I was amazed,
Wasn't expecting it to the smell the way it did.
It was love at first try, I don't reach for it too often.
It's a perfume that needs to be used in winter, I can't for the life of me imagine someone wearing this in hot humid weather,
It'll knock people out.
After being put away for almost 2 years,
I took this out today, sprayed half a spritz (yes half)
How I miss AP,
This'll last me a well over 5 years, maybe more.
If you store your perfumes away properly they won't go bad!
Matter of fact, some may even smell better.
Agent provocateur is one of them.❤️

JacquieDS

This perfume seduces me, dusky rose and musk, just delicious.

Annemarie

I'm new to this one and am undecided. It is certainly a very beautiful rose. I'm not fond of rose dominated fragrances usually because they are often too jammy-sweet, or too sour. I like classic mossy roses like Knowing or Paloma Picasso but somehow I seldom wear them.

Agent Provocateur seems to me to belong to this classic end of the rose spectrum. I find it rather formal and tailored. Despite its origins in a lingerie brand, it reminds me of very formal structured clothing from the 1950s. So while its more wearable than Knowing or PP, it's still not a daily proposition for me.
