Gris Charnel Extrait by BDK Parfums is a Woody Spicy fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Gris Charnel Extrait was launched in 2022. The nose behind this fragrance is Mathilde Bijaoui. Top notes are Cardamom, Fig and Black Tea; middle notes are Iris, Bourbon Vetiver and Cistus Incanus; base notes are Sandalwood, Madagascar Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Cedar and Indonesian Patchouli Leaf.

"Concentrated at 30%, Gris Charnel Extrait reveals the intensity of the original signature to extract a richer and more faceted version. A new creation, where the woody essence of patchouli is invited in and brings depth to the sandalwood and tonka bean that reveal themselves more textured and warm. Voluptuous, vanilla underlines this trail with an ambery and smoked roundness. At the top, the fresh and vibrant cardamom combines with the delicacy of a fig with green and fruity accents. A bright opening illuminates the opulent note of the fragrance." -Brand website.

"Gris Charnel Extrait magnifies for me this Parisian sensuality already present in Gris Charnel. Parisian sensuality is expressed in many ways. I find it fascinating to be able to imagine all forms of sensuality through the eyes of Parisians." -Brand founder David Benedek.

it is a scent bomb but there's a note that i strongly dislike and find it nauseating I think it might be the green tea or the Fig note. this is definitely not a safe blind buy.

smellydude

frankcohelo is spot on , if you love YSL 6 Place Saint Sulpice , like I do , you will most certainly love this too. I bought the Gris Charnel Extract in an instance ,it was a no brainer for me. They are in the same family but there are differences if you compare them side by side. The main difference is the slightly metallic Safran note inYSL 6 Place Saint Sulpice and the soft Iris in Gris Charnel Extrait.

I'm happy to own and love both but if you already own the Saint Laurent I would first test them side by side.

This is a perfect fragrance to me. Absolute 11/10.

It's evident that many people don't know what they're talking about because this doesn't resemble Gentleman or Naxos at all.

This is in a league of its own, with such a beautiful, spicy, creamy and refined sillage and generous projection.

Instantly purchased a full bottle at full retail when I smelled it for the first time, and would still purchase if it were $1,000. It's beyond perfect to me.

That said, it's not for everyone. If you're the type of person who leans toward streetwear/hypebeast clothing, this is NOT your scent. This is a dark and brooding, yet upscale and sophisticated scent. Think, dark charcoal peacoat, trousers and chestnut leather boots with a Vacheron Constantin watch. Upscale, expensive casual.

The type of person who this best suits is a slightly introverted wealthy person who's well educated, a little unapproachable, and prefers the rain and cold weather.

5/5 date night fragrance for the colder months. Beautifully rich, faintly smoky, enough sweetness in balance with the wood notes and well calibrated florals. Just a stunner. Full bottle worthy IMO.

unrealisanannagra

6 place is my signature scent—should I bother to try this or is it way too similar and counterproductive to test?

PK_thundr

If you're a man, try Gentleman Boisee or EDT Intense. It's somewhat close and more masculine. Especially Boisee. In the opening they're similar but the dry down on this one is where things get special.

This scent is nice, but when I can get 2-3 other fragrances for the price of this one... is it worth it? I'm not sure yet

IDK if people will be able to tell able to tell that you're wearing Givenchy Gentleman instead of BDK. As you're moving around, you may not be able to tell either. The sandalwood on the drydown is very very good

rabiul5316

Sniffed it and instantly bought it on a shop. This is really nice dark and smoky scent with fig and cardamon opening. For me it’s more of a masculine frag. Longevity is great and has a great atomizer. For me it’s one of my best niche frag i have.

frankcoelho

Not in the opening, but as it dries down, super similar to my beloved YSL 6 Place Saint Sulpice! OMG I can't believe this. 10/10
Here I am, reviewing a decant I bought from DecantX. GC Extrait has been on my mind for such a long time. With its comparisons to other powdery-iris fragrances I love - this ain't it. Certainly has moments that will bring that inspiration to you but in no way this smells like (one of my most hated fragrances) Gentleman EDT Intense.

Interesting opening, very unique with that fruity fig - lending it some sort of a green, juicy but dark aura. I'm way into 10h of wearing this and still very detectable when I look for it. Projection not intrusive at all but still that perfumed aura lingers. Te dry-down is quite similar to the above mentioned YSL - though the latter won't perform as well as the BDK.

Trying to find a full bottle now for under $200, which will pop randomly in a few discounters. Worth that, in my opinion especially since the YSL is ultra rare and not even found anywhere nowadays.

bigfry

Beast mode performance, its dark with an undertone of sweetness/fig. Its unisex, but the fig makes it lean a bit feminine.

BandNerdChic

From the perspective of a woman looking for a unisex fragrance and already loving Gris Charnel EDP, this one is really interesting. It has an awful cough syrup opening, but ignore that - it goes away really quickly. It settles down into a darker, deeper, spicier version of the EDP with the tiniest suggestion of smoke. The vanillic marshmallows sweetness is still there, but the feeling overall is spicier with an underlying sweetness compared to the overall fluffy, airy sweetness of the EDP. It’s really interesting as the perception changes depending on your distance. At arms length it is sweeter, but as you get closer the spice and the touch of smoke come out which is very alluring. As far as gender, I find the EDP to be unisex leaning feminine, and the Extrait to be unisex leaning unisex. I would be extremely comfortable wearing this as a woman, and I would also find it incredibly enticing on a man - this is the kind of scent that would make me want to bury my face in someone’s chest. I think the EDP is more for me, but I adore them both!!

joaquinc

family said this smells like vix vaporub when i sprayed at myer melbourne
might sample it to see if it still retains vix smell on 2nd chance

jigginssean

This is one that you have to spray on skin to appreciate because you don't get the full effect from the bottle. I have only a sample & once sprayed on the skin, it has such a unique & interesting scent that you are drawn to keep inhaling it. I would say its a pretty masterful blend & deserves its high rating. Having said all this, I can't see it being mass appealing nor can I see myself wearing it so I decided against putting a bottle on my buy list. However it is one I appreciate greatly & its a really cosy experience to relax at the end of the day, spray some on your arm & experience the magic of this expertly crafted blend!

Itcannotalwaysbenight

Reminds me of a hug from my freshly shaved grandfather. Creamy woody scent. Far less sweet, and way more woody than the original EDP. The cedar and sandalwood blend so well together on the dry down.

I prefer the EDP as the EDP is lighter, sweet, and more feminine- Plus you get more tea and fig from the EDP. Would love to smell this on a gentleman so much so, that I may gift this to my other half. For those torn between the two I would recommend the Extrait for those looking for a more masculine leaning creamy woody scent, and the EDP for those looking for a lighter more sweet tea scent.

amnebe

This is a great powdery scent. It's in the same neighborhood as Bal a Versailles since it has a sweet hay-like scent. I think that part of it must be coming from a mixture of vetiver and sandalwood. So, maybe it's dried vetiver rather than fresh vetiver? It's nice and soothing. I don't love it, but it is nice for every now and then when I'm in the mood for a powdery sweet hay scent.

AntonioP.

BDK Gris Charnel Extrait is a great fragrance, more suitable for winter and fall. The. Cardamom, Black Tea and Fig makes it a kind of sweet and powdery fragrance, however me personally I see it more likely on a man. For this fragrance you really need to dress up, and have a personality that reflect it. The longevity and sillage are great (it is an Extrait). Gris Charnel Parfum is the female pendant to this fragrance. The Extrait version smells heavier, more sophisticated and masculine. If a woman would wear it I think I would not notice it. Considering it is a niche perfume the price of 260€ is not that bad. You should go for it.

laflame6

Very nice, perfectly unisex imo and quite unique. Performance is also very decent on my skin, easily get around 10 hours with moderate projection, not a beast by any means. Very suitable for transitional seasons like spring and autumn

djezierski

I like the idea of this fragrance, however, find it a tad too intense right now. I have an almost full bottle, happy to sell it within the EU. PM me if you’re interested.

binker

Out of thee 100 fragrances I own this is the only one that makes me melt verbally say ughhh & so happy when I smell it haha. This, CH iris empire & initio paragon are my favorites.

myparis_42

I’m wearing the Gris Charnel now. It’s around 2pm and I sprayed this morning around 10am and I have to really really sniff and stick my nose to my skin to smell anything.

It’s an elegant masculine fragrance that can be unisex for women who like masculine fragrances. I’m that kind of woman! I do smell the fig and depth of the Vetiver. On first spray I get floral notes that soften later.

Overall a very elegant smell, but doesn’t really have a long lasting.

NOSEYBODY

First lets address Gender. Gris Charnel Extrait is not Unisex in my opinion. Its unmistakably Masculine. Its Dark Green, Spicy, & the combination of Black Tea & Bourbon Vetiver comes off like dry Tobacco & Ash.

I would never want to smell Gris Charnel Extrait on a woman. In fact, if I smelled this on a woman I'd think she hugged a man & his scent stuck to her.

Many "Influencers" claim this fragrance to be "Smoky". But I pick up on a light scent of Ash, rather than actual smoke.

The Fig note smells Green, but also very Lactonic thanks to the assistance of Vanilla & Tonka. It actually smells like a Fig Tree, where some Figs are Ripe & Some Aren't.

Dont think of Diptyque's Philosikos. Because its not comparable to that particular Fig Note.

The Iris offers a faint Waxiness that will feel familiar to the Iris/Cardamom combo of the Dior Homme Line.

.... & I did notice that the Iris Note was louder on Clothes than it was on my skin.

Dont be fooled by Hyped Reviews. I really dont appreciate all of the dishonesty when it comes to this fragrance.

Gris Charnel Extrait is no "Love Bomb", "Magical Elixir", or "Panty Dropper". The Ladies will not be whispering about how good you smell. It's nowhere close to being the "Ooh La La" Fragrance "Influencers" are hyping it up to be.

At my work I put Gris Charnel Extrait up against Dior Homme Parfum. Every woman in my office chose Dior Homme Parfum over Gris Charnel Extrait.

Now, because the opening of this fragrance is so Green, it smells Niche. So It may not be appreciated by novice noses. Its not challenging by any means, but because it smells so true to actual Cardamom, & to actual Fig, it's not going to be all that mass appealing.

Gris Charnel Extrait is a good fragrance for a well dressed Man. It smells great. However, I dont find it Sexy, nor Date Night appropriate.

Its more Casual than anything. Its not a stand out fragrance. And because of that I find it to be way too expensive for what it is.

For me the best part of Gris Charnel Extrait is the initial opening. Imagine the opening of Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme Intenso with added Cardamom, Fig, Black Tea, & Iris.

This fragrance can be worn year round. But because its a dark fragrance I feel its best worn at night.

The Projection & Sillage are both very good for the first few hours. It lasted on my skin over 12 hours.

That being said I should also note that this fragrance performs best year round in controlled environments.

This is an Extrait, but its not even going to compete with the strength of most EDT's. You're paying for quality with this fragrance..

For those of you who are familiar with the performance of Tom Ford's "Oud Wood". Thats the type of performance you can expect here.

This is not an Extrait in the sense that it is Thick & Heavy. It will project from your skin, but its Airy, & Light. So its not going to hold up outside in freezing temperatures.

But even indoors Its not going to get noticed in wide open spaces unless people are close to you. This is an intimate extrait for close quarters.

This fragrance smells of Fall & Winter but its just not built to handle those temperatures.

Like Oud Wood you'll get the best performance in zero Wind, & in Mild to Warmer weather if you're going to wear it outdoors, & also if this fragrance is applied to Clothes, rather than skin.

ōyiss

From Gris Charnel Extrait I’m getting a unisex/slightly masculine, modern, sweet & sensual fragrance.

The opening isn’t bad but it’s my least favourite part due to the initial intense sweetness (intensity is to be expected with parfum concentrations). The mid -dry down is phenomenal; the sweetness dials back, and the subtle smokiness of the vetiver along with the clean iris accord give this fragrance a cool freshness that stops it from being too juvenile or cloying. 8-9 hours in I get a slight cocoa vibe, but for the first 1-7 hours this fragrance is somewhat linear (in a good way).

In the air it smells clean & fresh, yet warm & inviting. Professional enough for the office, and sensual enough for cosy Sunday mornings on the couch. Great stuff 👍

Horban

This fragrance is too damn good. I have never smelled the og Gris charnel, but I just adore this one. It is a chilly March day and I threw this on. The spicy tea and fig mixed with cardamom intoxicate me. I am going to be very sad when it gets to be too warm to wear this. Although, distance makes the heart grow fonder. My first niche and a fragrance I will always have in my collection. Fall/winter staple.

…Really… I don’t get the long lasting longevity & moderate to strong sillage, after 3 hours I have to sniff my skin from very close to even detect the smell. 😵💫 It’s a cozy smell, I like it a lot, but will not be spending almost 200€ on something that fades so quickly on me, I ordered sample from their official website, thus it can’t be fake, I am puzzled.

colsn

I really get the fig here and its nice and calming but not mind blowing

7/10

kerricj

top notes are heavy in cardomom and fig! not as much black tea as i expected. as this dries down, you get abit of a smoky, woody vetiver & an iris accord. i dont know why but this fragrance's iris accord has sort of a waxy feel to it and throws me off abit but it fades away in the drydown. very creamy dry down, consisting of sandalwood, vanilla , abit of cedar & patchouli, giving a slightly dark twist to the fragrance. projection, sillage & longevity are quite good though but it's just that iris accord man! 😂 (i'll try to give it a few more wearings & see if my nose is bugging or if it's actually the fragrance itself) overall, 9/10.

MuskyBro

Perfumer: How intoxicating do you want this fragrance to be?

BDK: Yes.

HisNoseKnows

save your money and buy Stash x SJP. they are extremely similar.

MrMrBrian

I knew I wanted the original after sampling it & ended up later getting this via a blind buy instead.. I honestly don’t remember how the original smells now, But this is incredible! It has incredible power if that’s important & one of the best atomizers in the game!! If you like fig, It may be the best one in my opinion.. I have a few, But on the other hand you could save & get Xerjoff Oueverture which is bacially the same fragrance with this one being a little Smokey, Little darker more concentrated But an extra $100 as well! The Xerjoff is an excellent alternative, I’ve reviewed it twice on here! I’m glad to have them both now, But immediately thought this was redundant when this came in & I first tried it

Angelic3432

I only have tried this and not the original one so I can't compare but I really love this scent! After a cardamom heavy initial blast, after a few min the vanilla comes into play to sweeten it a bit along with the figs! Leans feminine for me bc of this. Perfect cold weather perfume!

Elli Dhm

This is sadly a cardamom - patchouli mega bomb on me. L' extrait lacks the finesse and blend balance of the EDT.

Longevity is there, however the black tea and fig notes are drowned in the woody tonka bean base.

A.Bandini

I didnt like the EDP as it was a bit generic and light and i couldnt understand the fuss made about it. This one is better although still nothing all too special. It's an okayish fragrance. I always thought a bit of leathery feel would do this composition good and i indeed get a bit of subtle sued or leather in this one. Smells like a sweet suedish iris with lots of tonka and vanilla with some sandalwood thrown into the mix as well. Leans feminine to me. However with BDK, you need to know the EDP performs like EDT and the Extrait performs like a light EDP so they are generally light in perfume oil concentration.

Teepeeps

At first spray there was a lot of woods and spice, leaning to what might be traditionally considered masculine. I found the opening very dry and it took time and dry down for the vanilla tonka to emerge. February is end of winter (hopefully) and I have spent plenty of time with Babycat, Angels Share, Libre Le Parfum and Jazz Club over the last few months to recognise the fragrance zone I’m in. It’s very pleasant, though the intensity means it took a while to mellow on me. I love the tea and patchouli but I prefer my fig either much fruitier or greener, maybe it competes a bit too much and as I do love fig, I find myself searching for it.
I love the rich soft sandlewood in the base. Lasts all day and does evolve. I’m not going to purchase a full bottle this time of the year as for me it’s an autumn winter job

PrincipeFilip

Its a great fragrance. I still do prefer edp. This one is leaning more masculine imo. Performance is the same as edp. Which is above average

Froggybop

One of the first niche fragrances that I have tried, and I can definitely feel the quality and work that has gone into this fragrance. It evolves throughout the day, starts of with a heavy blast of cardamom, I hardly smell any other notes. Although after 10 minutes, I start to really like it. The fig is more prominent and it’s hard to pick up the black tea as an individual note for me, but I can tell it’s there. Woody, with a subtle sweetness from the tonka and vanilla. After a couple of hours, the woods and vanilla remains, but the patchouli and vetiver starts to linger. It’s multifaceted, very interesting. I’m used to more linear fragrances, and this one has been a pleasure to try. It’s unlike anything that I’ve smelt before. When I smell this I imagine a foggy fall day, cold outside, and you’re sitting wrapped In a blanket with a nice hot cup of tea.

mortezamomeni

Gris Charnel Extrait BDK is similar to Or du Serail Naomi Goodsir in Base Notes, particularly.

buonobi

I own both EDP and Extrait in full bottles and I prefer Extrait more.
It's darker and spicier. Less fruity (fig) and lasts longer. And I love patchouli.
Unisex and suits all seasons.

pfernando8012

This is what the dark side of the moon would smell like. Mysterious/airy/black tea and vanilla that'll transport you to another place. I was really impressed with this. I passed on buying it since I didn't feel that I "needed" to have given how pricey it's gotten, but nonetheless, it was a job well done by BDK. 9.0/10. Leans masculine but can be worn by anyone. I'd consider this a year-round scent.

karinavi

i think this is a major improvement on the original, the vanilla and more pronounced tonka were much needed additions as the original felt as though it was missing something. far smoother and sweeter with an honestly heavenly drydown, the fig isn't nearly as loud and offensive to my nose. despite this being the extrait version, i find to be more subtle and not masculine like people have said.

JaySentz

Such a warm, elegant and comforting scent. Hype or not this is super and I will be getting a bottle as soon as my decant is done. This has the ripest fig and tea note with the vanilla and wood notes giving it depth and warmth. The iris lifts it up and ties it together. It lingers faintly for days, with this strangely familiar aroma. I loved getting wiffs of it when putting on my jacket after it transferred from my clothes days before.

yoshithatgirl

just tried a sample of this on the back of my hand. it reminds me of Ani by Nishane. the same cardamom, woody and slightly powdery opening. dry down is more tame, can smell more sweetness but this definitely means more masculine to my nose. it kinda reminds me of jo Malone myrrh and tonka too, same vibe.

autumnrequiem

This is an absolute stunner. A delicious cardamom, vanilla, vetiver, tea, fig concoction that overpowers the senses in such a positive way. Completely unisex.

10/10 and I don’t hand this lightly at all.

Pinnacos

This is a cardamom bomb. It's that same unmistakable note that permeates YSL's La Nuit de l'Homme. It IS a beautiful fragrance, but you've got to be a big fan of cardamom.

darrellfernando

My favourite dark tea fragrance. It's very creamy and lasts 6-8 hours on my skin. Works better in the colder weathers.

Kinnyski

I bought a decant because I love Fig, Cardamom, Iris, Vanilla and Tonka bean. Unfortunately the dominant Patchouli, black tea and the overwhelming smell of wood and somehow leather notes just took over. This smells like I was trapped in a carpenters wood workshop while tied to a leather saddle with a 1970's men's woody aftershave in the air. This is too masculine and not in a good way for me. Will pass this on to friends/family who live in colder countries.

Bizzy1995

A very warm, yet loud fig note in the opening. I defintly get the bourbon mixed with vanilla and a lot of Tonka. The Iris accord ruins this for Me.

skm50

I love the opening to this and the middle notes. But once it's been sitting for an hour or so, I start to smell a ton of patchouli and wood. And it sort of smells like burnt rubber to me. I prefer the original, but the original has zero longevity on me which is why I purchased the extrait. And it definitely lasts longer, but still has a rather intimate projection. I still get whiffs of the cardamom and fig, so it's pleasant overall, just not thrilled with it.

Update: decided to return it. The patchouli note really ruins it. Maybe for men this would be more suitable. But for me it's just not enough to justify the pricetag. Crystal Noir EDT has a similar vibe to the original Gris Charnel and has no patchouli. I will be sticking to that. But this was fun to try!

jlz076

Another super hyped up fragrance that was a bit disappointing to say the least. This fragrance definitely isn't bad by any means, but the cardamom seriously overpowers the other notes in this fragrance. The opening almost has a tobacco-like PDM Carlisle scent that is just a tad bit sweeter from the fig and iris. It doesn't smell powdery at all. imo the opening is not as good as people are saying. It smells so strongly of cardamom that it's hard to even enjoy the fragrance in the first 15 minutes. However, the dry down on bdk gc extrait is killer. I think it's blended super nicely and is a really addictive scent. It doesn't last as long on my skin as I'd like it to for being an extrait, but it still has pretty decent performance. Is it a 10/10? No. But it's definitely a fragrance worth getting a decant of since I can see a lot of people really enjoying it.

Maya lilac

I will start the review of Gris Charnel Extrait mentioning that I am not loving at all the OG Gris Charnel.

The Extrait version, with the additional vanilla and tonka beans, in the base notes, is more of my thing. I find it a bit more sweet ( far from being a sweet fragrance), a tad warmer and more feminine (I still consider this smell as a masculine one). It’s 80% the same scent as the original just amped up and it’s not my cup of tea. Notes like fig, black tea, iris, vetiver, sandalwood which are representing the core of this fragrance, are not my favourites.

I am not going to say that Gris Charnel Extrait is not a good fragrance because for people who love this scent profile I bet it’ll become one of the favourites from their collection.

It’s a nice, smooth, long lasting scent, green, woody, slightly aromatic and earthy type of perfume but I would still not buy it because it not a scent profile that I would genuinely enjoy wearing any season!

dan99

It is clean, subtle, light, and airy scent. Not something I expect an extrait to be but I do enjoy it but it does sit closer to the skin which is fine for this type of scent that is versatile and friendly. It does have a coconut like accord to me which is a bit odd but i like it.

enders

Absolutely stunning

Ferg1

This is beautiful, love the fig hint in the opening and i'm gettin the black tea note aswell. But above all this is cardamom bomb, it's a fragrance that is easy to wear. Good but not impressive, that said full bottle worthy yes but not a priority.

Edit : I am really happy that i bought this one, it's dark yet very easy to wear. It's very unique aswell in my opinon and the other positive thing is the performance, knowing the standards nowdays... Projects perfectly, not cloying and lasts almost the whole day.

The DZ

Ultra smooth, sexy fig. Very unisex. Nice.

DuncanPL

Black Tea and Cardamon. Lots of sweetness with a hint or weird pickle juice sourness and coconut. It feels like a synthesis of popular fragrances - Grand Soir, Jazz Club, LDNL, Dior Homme Intense/Parfum... finished off with pickle juice :P It also smells weirdly like something Zara would make... I bet they did sth similar and I smelt it, just don't know what is was now.
Santal 33 in the far drydown :/

Pepeb007xx

so, SO

after HIGH, very HIGH expectations, I must say, its not bad parfume, but, for this price? 280€ for 100ml? yes they raised price I believe when they won parfum of the year and bla bla to 280€ (also out of stock btw) its joke

every youtuber like love for 1 sniff and bla bla, but, its like often parfum often scent
for me, its like very smooth, balsamic, powdery MFK Amyris extract or Mr Sam for extract version and for parfume, its like some scent with figs (Philosykos by Diptyque), I believe, the OG version is even more potent, more wearable for unisex but fig is major for this scent in extract isnt fig, but cardamon and smoothnes

its very well blended, its nice to sniff it, its love? no. its like? yes

I want parfume from BDK, but this or OG, I dont know, its not cheap, and for this price, I was hoping for something I ll sit down, but this, isnt, cant be "best" niche etc etc

no offsense

I giving LOVE, but it has big BUT

after one month, bought extract and edp, so after mine first review, must do a statement, its briliant, both of, extract for night, edp for day

yes, its expensive, both, but u get 100ml, with unreal good atomizer and sillage and projection are unreal on both of these fragrances

scent trail has both, like, from other world, smells very, how can I say it, very expensive, rich, like hello, yes, I have milion on my bank account :D

after one month of sniffing a samples, it was very easy desition of buying both of BDK´s masterpieces

and both are in top 5 of mine parfumes also

ryanok21

This would be a great date night fragrance. It's powdery with heavy cardamom.

Mllemarie

I dont even Care the hate Im about to receive from this review. Ive never knowingly smelt this on a person walk by so perhaps that muddles my opinion.
However, this is disgusting on me. I have never sprayed something and instantly felt so put off I immediately jumped into the shower.
On paper I should have liked this fragrance since I enjoy Cedar, Vanilla and Cardamom but the fig ruins this whole composition for me and I simply can not handle the smell.

1/5 rating

sonertan

It could be a signature perfume.. smells incredibly nice (at least in my opinion) the scent of cardamom and creamy sandalwood. Sweetness doesn't tire you and it gets even more beautiful when it drydown. it may seem strange to you at first but please give it a chance.

emil1724

This is so smooth, warm and dark. beautiful smell

minhchau88

I just can't get the hype about this one. Cardamom. Cardamom. Cardamom. Vertiver. Cardamom. That's all I smell the first 30-45 minutes. Where's the fig and tea? I guess all other notes are buried under such a thick layer of cardamom. I love cardamom, but this is not as well made as it should be considering the price and reputation of the scent as well as the house. Tonka and sandalwood shows up at dry-down, which is nice, but again, nothing too special. There are many more interesting spricy woody scents with warm vanilla/ tonka notes.

peter94

Whole class above all other fragrances

Dimmuburger

Meh. Can't put my finger on what it reminds me of, but it doesn't blow me away. Definitely glad I got a 5ml sample first. Too dry; the spices are nice and I like the combo of tobacco, vetiver and cardamom. But for $240, I expect it to push out and last significantly longer. Just missing something. Edit: I got it - this smells like Vetiver Oriental by Serge Lutens. Except that only costs about $75 per bottle. Buy that instead.

EDIT: my sample has sat around for two months, mostly unused. Don't know if it's me or the juice, but I like this considerably more than I initially did now. I love the tea note and I'm a sucker for cardamom. It's giving me major armani eau de Nuit vibes, and still has that pleasant spiciness I associate with vetiver oriental. I now have to consider buying a whole bottle of this....

Ratou93

Amazing fragrance, its a work of art, I cannot stop smelling it. I love it !

senad05

Amazing scent. In my opinion, it reminds me a bit of Dior Homme Intense and Dior Homme Parfum, but with a twist. More sweet. 10/10 smell. Can definetely recommend!

ohj0rdn

Opens with a strong fig note, however settles after about 15 minutes. The dry down is gorgeous vanilla, sandalwood. Not an overly strong projection or sillage, but does linger for around 7 hours.

nicetosmellyou

I can't bring myself to enjoy this unfortunately. On the first few seconds after spraying, the scent in the air smells incredible. But on the skin, the sandalwood turns bitter and does not mix well with the strange cardamom note in here. In my opinion, this is one of the most overrated niche fragrances released in the past few years. If only the sandalwood was toned wayyyy down or simply removed, this would have been so good.

Waroway

If you are younger and looking for a fragrance to begin your niche journey, this would be my first recommendation. Not too designer, but not Zoologist level niche. Starts with a creamy fig and cardamom combo with the tea coming out once the fragrance has settled on the skin for about 15 minutes. Dries down to incorporate more of the iris (but not too much), sandalwood, and vanilla. This fragrance sits pretty close to the skin with only the first hour to an hour and a half having any kind of projection/sillage, but it has decent longevity lasting about 7-8 hours. Doesn't have the power of an extrait as advertised, more akin to an EDP, but it smells so good I don't care. Definitely going to be buying a full bottle of this stuff sometime in the future and I can see this being a go-to bottle for the winter, and is easily in the top 10 fragrances I've put my nose to. Try a decant and thank me later!

Doyourtaxes

opening is a powder bomb once it settles the woods and fig comes out and stays for the rest of its life the fig in paticular radiants off me and gives it that sweet edge 10/10 its the best in its dna and far better than the original for men atleast

kayalpersia

What did they put in this fragrance that the opening is so beautiful, exciting and yummy but only 15 minutes later, doesn’t worth a penny?? 😭😭 I wish it stayed like the opening so I could take a bottle home…

A powdery sweet repetitious ingredient emerges like any synthetic perfume so obviously it is overpriced as well. Still love its opening though

Bray08

Nosegasm! The edp makes me sooo happy and this one makes my eyes roll to the back of my head every single time. I love the EDP and I’ve been layering them for the woody and vanilla notes of extrait but the sillage of edp. Soooo addicting. Gris charnel is slowly becoming and dethroning BR540 extrait as my signature scent. It lasts forever on my skin too. Every time I wear either edp or extrait I get people asking what I’m wearing because I smell divine. It performs well on me.

SmellySal

I adore the original, but the extrait is KILLER. It's true enough to the original that the similarity is obvious and recognizable, but divergent enough that it's a completely different vibe. They are both amazingly cozy fragrances, but the extrait is much less powdery, more robust, sweet spicy, and drier with a stronger black tea note. The addition of vanilla keeps it cozy to the max while maintaining sophisticated depth, and I am obsessed.

Gender has nothing to do with this fragrance for me. I'm female and prefer woody, spicy, vanillic fragrances over soft powdery ones any day, so for me the extrait is perfect. If you prefer your fragrances soft as a pillow and fluffy as an angora sweater stick with the OG.

glowcel

This has everything I liked in the EDP without the stuffy iris. While the EDP is perfectly unisex, this leans slightly masculine— anyone can pull it off though. It’s much woodier as well. Bought a sample for my bf and it’s his signature scent now :)

ryantramus

First, this is a sweet, luscious, smoky, fruity scent. I don't get much powder.

Tea, fig, and a light spice greet you. It dries to a woody-fruity velvet softness. After a couple hours, it's still fruity, soft, and vanilla/amber. I sprayed 1 spray on my palm at 5:30AM. My SOTD was Dior Homme Intense, but I just received this from a marketplace seller and wanted to be sure it was legit, so I gave myself 1 spray. 1 spray of this overpowered my 10 sprays of DHI. I've washed my hands at least 6 times throughout the day. It's now 2PM, and I still smell it very powerfully on my hand. There is no DHI scent left anywhere, not even my sweater. This scent performs. It is warm, sweet, alluring, dark, fruity, woody, and one-of-a-kind. I love this fragrance. Gives me Side Effect vibes, but is even more dynamic. Fruity, boozy, amber. I would definitely try before you buy.

Mr. Bear

I really love the opening. It reminded me initially of a resort in Cancun I stayed at. It might be the tea/fig combo. Unfortunately this one is also just a tad too sweet for me. I do believe it's quite unique and does what it sets out to do. I wore this on a cool rainy day in Venice and it really worked nicely. Overall a great unisex scent, but not what I'm looking for in colder weather.

toddc

the opening is good to my nose and attractive. the dry down lets me down as it becomes a bit feminine. surprisingly even thought it has iris but it does not smell powdery which I hate so much. also the cardamon that worries me does not smell too spicy on my skin and it it very light to me. overall it is a good scent but the price makes me walk away.

BethW

Much like the og Gris Charnel but drier to the point that it smells a bit stale. Doesn't perform any better on me than the original. Not sure why this exists.

HueloBien

This is an amazing fragrance.
First off, the first 5-10 minutes it will remind you of the discontinued YSL Bleu La Nuit de L’Homme Bleu Electrique.

It doesn’t project much, but it has a great longevity.
6 sprays and you are good for 6-7 hours. Spray on clothes to extend the longevity.

The opening is warm. The cardamom and fig are noticiable. It feel a tad dense in the opening but it settles and calms down after a few minutes.

After the first 10 minutes, you feel a slightly hint of smokiness. I guess that is the Vetiver listed. The Iris is very light.

The base is calming and relaxing vanilla. Not cloying or super sweet but toned properly to be an elegant scent.

I like the way the fragrance develops, and how performs. It’s elegant, refined, not obnoxious or invasive.

A fragrance doesn’t need to be beast mode to be amazing.
I already have pass that criteria.
If I want more longevity, I just apply more, and on clothes too.

It’s pricey but worth it, in my opinion. The less people know about this, the higher my chances no many people will wear this amazing scent.

If you want something that projects more, get yourself a clone, or search on YouTube, and pick on any of the 50 videos of top ten beast mode fragrances posted by YouTubers.

odinson888

I wish it would be more long lasting

THE_Scentaholics

First off, this is considered warm, woody spicy and that's true, but let's understand that the black tea note is wow! I am a fairly big fan of tea notes and admist the smoke and wood is tea and fig.
Excellent atomizer. Long lasting on the skin. A fresh, clean warm scent with a personality that is quite complex.
Complement getter.
It's not a screamer and I think if you go easier on the trigger in warm months, this smells great year around.
Bought on maxaroma.com with a discount code and it was under $200 so decent price.

natrance

Huh...nobody gets the discontinued gem Valentino V Pour Homme from this?

r350

Super smooth, luxuriously grey and buttery composition. Fig and cardomom keep it from being too cloying. Does not feel like an extrait however, feels less dense, and more light and more watery than some extracts out there and gives off more of an EDP aura.

A1uk@rd

Awesome perfume. But, it has iris, I didn't know it is going to be that dominant. I have dior homme parfum, gentleman reserve prive, and a couple more of powdery sents. And now this. Because of the iris, to my nose, if you have dior this might be redundant.

n.ben885

I bought a sample for this since people were talking about how this smells like a sweet chai latte, so I thought I'd love it, I don't like it haha. It smells NOTHING like a sweet chai latte, I don't even get anything sweet about this perfume it's just very dry and woody, not a scent profile that i like. I will say that although It's Unisex, it does lean very masculine to me. One more thing, am i the only one who thinks this smells like The Noir 29 from Le Labo and like Autumn Vibes from the Replica line ? Anyhow I rate this 4/10

Marcx

Hmmm. I don’t know. Not sure if it’s working for me. Something is missing. I tried to like it. It’s nice I don’t get the hype. It’s short. A bit boring ? Safe. Smooth. But designer ish. Doesn’t last that long on me. I’m confused lol on how this is so hyped. It’s not bad but with the price I don’t think it’s worth it. I might change my mind. Im writing this as I’m smelling it again right now. Live. So if it’s choppy… that’s the reason. It’s projecting well. Now that’s it 30 mins in. It’s nice. Nah lol. I don’t wanna smell like this lol. It’s a bit mid. It’s leaning more masculine tbh. It’s not a love at first or 5th try for me. Again. It’s Nice. Sweet figs now. Powdery. A bit sharp. But yeah not my cup of tea. But safe for someone who just wants a nice pleasing signature scent. But for the price… maybe.

Edit: if you want to smell like FIG CHUTNEY. yes! YES! That’s it smells like a thick jammmyyy… fig chutney.

Ansary

too dry

Advantageous01

This is perfection. Creamy sandalwood, spicy cardamom, with sweet vanilla- all made incredibly effervescent with the unique fig and tea notes. Will have you smelling your collar for hours, and everyone else trying to catch a whiff of your sillage all day.

A true 10/10 modern classic for winter. Will make the most seasoned perfume snob wide-eyed upon smelling.

anthonycball

Gris Charnel Extrait... The fragrance equivalent of putting on a warm, comfy grey sweater with fluffy wool socks on a cold day. Then, curling up with your favorite hot, frothy mug of whatever.

A fig/tea opening that transitions incredibly to a well-blended warm, slightly sweet, comforting embrace. The way this Extrait wears is like a warm hug from someone you've been longing for.

I've never fully understood the concept of a "cozy fragrance" until wearing this offering from BDK. I love this during the winter months, any time I need to de-stress and take the edge off a long day, or want to be tucked in before bed.

Rating 9.5/10

Mia80

It's very... interesting. I don't like the heavy smokey woody, or rather don't want to like it yet, but this one has so much of elegance. I keep on sniffing it. BDK website has actually a sample set, so it's an easy way to try it and not expensive.

AndrewZb

This frag got the award as Perfume Extraordinaire of the Year 2023.
Yes. this is a really good one. Cardamom, fig, sandalwood, vanilla - first impression, then the sweetness of tonka bean comes to dry down with the light of iris&vetiver (almost Prada) around.

Guardian2471

Smells very good and is very unique but the cardamom is very prominent. The scent is a 9/10 and this is a fragrance that I would recommend checking out.

chri5tin3

This was love at first sniff.

It sounds crazy, but this smells like pencil shavings... in the best way possible.

I get clean, creamy woods. Cardamom, iris, vetiver, vanilla and sandalwood steal the show for me. It's like a barbershop in a bottle but not outdated at all.

It's probably the most sophisticated scent I've ever smelled. This is definitely coming home with me one day.

nhhoanglaw

The opening reminds me of By the Fireplace, Scandal Le Parfum, and Armani Code Absolu. Don't know why, maybe because all of them have a lot of Vanilla mixed with Tonka Bean. Not sure I got the Sandalwood from this, still need to wait until it is dry out to find the woodsy notes ... All things considered, this scent is not very remarkable or distinctive, but it is easy to apply, easy to smell, tends to be warm and sweet, and appropriate for winter.

Patchoulentic

Am I the only one who gets Pegasus from this?

another_52hz_whale

It is a bit too masculine for my taste. I have Gris Charnel and love it very much. This one is long lasting but it is missing the creamy cozy feel for me. I’ll stick to the original one.

HueloBien

The opening reminded me immediately to YSL LNDL Bleu Electrique.

amanda0727

Smells too much like the original version to justify owning both. The extrait is just sweeter (with the added vanilla). To my nose, the fig is stronger in the extrait as well. Do I find it more masculine? Yes maybe a tiny bit leaning masculine IMO due to the patchouli. I have a 10ml decant of the extrait along with my full bottle of the original and that is sufficient to me.

Vitriol08

Update after a few weeks:
It changes all the time.
The spray is gorgeous.
It does not last but the scent transforms quickly into this mesmerizing melange and volutes.

What to add. It is all true. It is a stunning masterpiece.
Strong but not loud, long lasting, gorgeous.
Perfect for fall and winter.
What a perfect blend!

lmnsvgz

This is stunning! A lot more masculine and cardamom-strong than the original. Less sweet and smooth, more direct. It still has the cashmere warmth of the original though just in a larger size. Get Gris Charnel for your girl and this one for you.

PuffinStuff

This is such a beautiful fragrance. I have not tried the original, so I will not be making a comparison.

I was apprehensive about blindbuying this fragrance, largely because of the tea note. I am not a tea drinker. I cannot say I dislike the smell of tea (though I dislike the taste) so much as I could say I was not drawn to the smell of tea. I am wearing this today for the first time since the spring. Sandalwood, cardamom, fig and tea with a woody and slightly powdery backbone. The tea note works beautifully with the other notes. This is nothing short of stunning, in my opinion. Time will tell but this could be a masterpiece.

It's unisex but leans clearly in the masculine direction. This is not to say that a woman would smell butch wearing this. She would not. But when a man wears it, it somehow manages to enhance his masculine energy without going overboard. I bet it would be very appealing on feminine skin. But I think girly-girls would prefer it on a man. I'm not sure someone below 25 years old would appreciate this. This is a grown-up fragrance. I think this would work very well with a charcoal grey suit but I also think it works well with joggers and a hoodie, and it is built for sweater weather. As long as you are clean and well-groomed. 17C (63F) and below is where this works best. This would work for date nights, special events, a quiet cafe, casual activities and the office (though I tend to avoid attracting attention with my office frags, personally). I don't think it works in a niteclub but it would in an upscale lounge. It's versatile enough that if you want to smell upscale and sophisticated or casually appealing, this works very well. I get somewhere north of 8 hours before it becomes a skin scent. This fragrance has moved into my Top 3. I did not wear this in the summer, and not a single day went by where I wasn't thinking about this gorgeous juice. Get your nose on it but don't test it in the heat of the summer if you want to smell it at it's best. My best purchase of 2023.

Tasherapd

This reminds me of Ouverture by Xerjoff. I get a hint of coconut although it isn’t a note. I find that the fig note can sometimes be similar to the scent of coconut depending on how it’s blended. This has grown into a want. I find myself reaching for my decant on cool rainy days. I feel like this fragrance is perfect for that weather. A lot of reviews say that this leans masculine & that thought has never crossed my mind. I love unisex scents and this works for me. I think this smells great on a man or woman. In fact I was complimented by a woman when I wore this scent.

Varun S

Hey If anybody has and is willing to sell a bottle (new/used) of this amazing scent in the EU please do let me know!

GloryRide

I don't follow trends nor watch YouTube reviewers, so whatever type of hype train GCE has gotten is lost on me. I tried this based on my own research.

From the opening I can tell this aims to be a quality unisex niche blend, and to some degree it achieves this. At the start, the blend is beautiful and refined overall, but it somehow starts to lose its niche-like structure as it settles. This might be a hot take, but I think GCE falls short of being high quality niche. It's right there between designerish and niche, hovering towards the latter, but I've smelled finer blends than this. The scent cloud here is quite dense, which can be off-putting.

This is my first time smelling fig, and I imagine the fig note is something you either love or hate, I don't think there's anything in between. I have my sweet tooth so I kinda' like it, but its presence is just a tad too much in the front, it's like it's constantly reminding that it's the front note. I smell the vanilla, iris, tonka, as well as the tea note too, which is very subdued.

Overall, an interesting and slightly masculine-leaning perfume for sure, but something I wouldn't personally buy, for 240€ I'd expect a niche fragrance to go all the way qualitywise. To me, this fragrance unfortunately, does not.

natrance

@ysl187 "POP"

Farrque

Cardamom, cypriol, chocolatey patchouli, leather, incense, hint of iris, pear and plum.

I prefer the original but the extrait definitely has a purpose, especially in the colder months.

zefragrancec

Darker, deeper, version of the og. the vanilla is more accentuated in this which gives it such a unique vibe and i effing love it.

karapar13

I'll start off by saying this is a nice scent with quality ingredients, but this has been extremely overhyped as I find it pretty generic.
The sandalwood overshadows the rest of the notes, but you can still catch that vanilla and iris on it, I was unable to smell fig in this (iris and sandalwood give it this dryness but vanilla cuts it a little bit). Performance is really good though. Strong projection and longevity, I'd give this a 7/10.

Ba2siK

It's nice, but I like the original more. this is more heavy

Chanel de Lanvin

@apentias I tested it too and couldn't find anything consistent with this scent.
It is ephemeral and its outfit is just as much, the extract means nothing at all except in maketing, I would add that this brand does not bring anything extraordinary in this universe overloaded with olfactory creations.
When we say that a perfume is very suggestive, that doesn't mean it's about the perfume itself, but about what you hear from other people or what you read in their reviews and the components indicated in its presentation.
Make your own experience and do not follow the opinions you read here, many talk about perfumes without having any real knowledge of them.

apentias

Ordered mine directly from BDK so I know this is not a fake or a bad batch. The hype around this is not justified in the least. It is, of course, a pleasant wood/ spice/soapy patchouli fragrance and it is well blended. There is, however, nothing spectacular or new about it. The notes do not come through on me or on my husband. A little iris, maybe. Absolutely zero fig or tea (these are my favourite notes and I was surprised at the mention of these). The drydown is definitely better than the original blast, more complex and interesting. This is not a safe blind buy, needless to say. I have smelled this so many times before and it reminds me a lot of several Jovoy fragrances which I really like but I did not need another one. This is decent 7/10.

Lukazivkovic

A stunning fragrance that really grew on me

I really love this fragrance although I didn’t alway. It’s a pretty unique and non linear fragrance that has a very photorealistic smell. It’s very fruity and sweet with that fig and vanilla.

The main notes I get in this are the fig, cardamom, vetiver, vanilla , sandalwood and tonka.

The fig in this is some of the best blended fig I’ve ever smelt. It’s very sweet and jammy. And has this quality I can only describe as “seedy”. All together it smells like fig jam with the seeds and all. I really love it. I’m assuming that The Tonka is tied in with fig very well and I’m assuming gives it that jammy feel. And behind that jam is a subtly spicy cardamom. But that’s mostly in the opening. Toward the end those woods and Vanilla come out. The sandalwood in this is very creamy and pairs with a very dusty vetiver well. And both of those are backed up by the vanilla.

I’ve heard this fragrance be called unique over and over, though I’m not too sure. It’s definitely different to someone who really looks into the notes and is into cologne. but I think to the average person smelling this on you it won’t be very special.

The person I imagine wearing this lives in Alaska. He loves to get all the nicest clothes and never leaves the house without thoroughly thinking through his outfits. He loves to invite his friends over for a nice and cozy dinner by the fire. And always is the first to host events in his beautiful, warm and cozy mansion.

This is good for fall and winter. Although I think this could go well on some spring nights. This is perfect for staying in or going out to a fancy restaurant. Although it’s not for clubbing or big party’s. Except for maybe a fancy diner party.

This is super long lasting and is definitely going to last you the entire day and then some.

It’s super mass appealing and you will definitely give you compliments.

I really love this

9.5/10

Lukasssss

Very well blended, intense, smooth, cozy cold weather fragrance.
The most prominent notes that I can detect are cardamom, tea, iris, vetiver, and sandalwood.
It reminds me of Dior Homme Parfum a little bit, but instead of being chocolatey it is more green and aromatic. It also reminds me of Mr. Sam and Halfeti by Penhaligons, mainly due to the similarities of the cardamom top notes.
Although I appreciate the artwork and understand why people love this fragrance, it is not something that I would wear. I have discovered that I am not a super big fan of heavy cardamom notes, especially not accompanied with gourmand notes such as vanilla. This combination is a little bit too intense for my nose. 7/10.

This review is for the femme people who find the Extrait too masc:

Layer it with Molecule 01+ Iris. Chef’s kiss, right? Amplifies the Iris and cardamom and creates the most **heavenly** scent cloud. Enjoy!

Yalcin05

Very very beautiful perfume.. but after an hour ofso when the mid fades away, you are left with a synthetic sandalwood perfume some iris touches and that’s all.

Hoped it was the sandalwood winner for me, but it’s not I see. Performance tough is very good projection is perfect for these scents. It’s cozy it’s warm it’s uplifting and relaxing, but like I said I hoped to enjoy more of the cardomon tea combo and less of the synthetic sandalwood, or at least they should have given us some pure drops of the sandalwood oil,

JonnyFrags

@vizatrix my comment was pointing out how great of a fragrance I think it is, not how unique it is. It very well may be more of a mainstream “safe” fragrance and not at all challenging. But it is a perfectly executed and well-blended one at that.

That’s fine if you don’t like it. I truly understand and probably should have made it clearer that it was mostly sarcasm in my comment below. I just really really enjoy it and think it’s an attractive and pleasing scent as I’ve been told by many people while wearing this.

I do also want to note that I have blind bought some fragrances that I’ve absolutely hated and have not been what I expected. But I do extensive research on everything I blind buy and am careful not to purchase something that may be very challenging or extremely unique. I tend to go for things that have all of the notes that I particularly enjoy in a fragrance and make sure there are none or little that I don’t usually enjoy.

I should also add that not everyone is wearing this. It’s not like Dior or Chanel or even Creed. This is a niche fragrance that most people who are not deep into the fragrance game have no clue about so I’d even go as far as to say if you wear this, you’ll certainly stand out from the crowd but whatever. To each their own.

vizatrix

@JohnnyFrags,
I'd say the opposite - anyone blindbuying perfumes cannot be trusted, because if you're constantly "successful" that probably means you're easy to please and not particulary picky. Every single blinduy I've made wasn't a hit and in longer run I don't have any bottle bought this way left.

I'm looking for uniqueness therefore something so likeable like Gris Charnel Extrait, which could be worn by almost everyone is not attractive in my book. I also want to point, that in my short comment I didn't really tried to diss the scent, more so only point it wasn't made for me.

Concluding I don't think sharing fair point of view, without extreme exaggerations in positive or negative way could be wrong, because as you may guess there will be significantly more people who can dislike the scent for the same reasons that made you love it so much.

JonnyFrags

The greatest fig fragrance ever. This and the edp version are top tier but the extrait is slightly better.

Anyone who doesn’t like this is absolutely crazy and cannot be trusted. I don’t care what you say…this is one the greatest fragrances ever made. Period. End of discussion. Some of the reviews here are absolutely ridiculous especially the ones saying this is boring. I understand that peoples tastes are subjective but not with this one. Nope.

This was my best blind buy ever. I snagged a full bottle for $190 on Mercari and almost had an out of body experience when I first sprayed it upon receiving it.

It’s so fucking classy. Warm, spicy, some sweetness from the fig. This is GUARANTEED to get you compliments and probably more than that 😉

(I feel very strongly about this fragrance as you may or may not be able to tell)

10/10 no questions asked.

~hand test/sample

Cardamon, iris, suede, sandal. Powdery, carrot-like with leathery background. Vanilla and tonka bean gives additonal sweet, almondy touch. Very pleasant, almost deligtful, comforting, easy to wear.

After opening phase sandalwood, some tea and even a little bit of vetiver are distinguishable, however it's very linear. Mid phase is less sweet (which I like) and goes into woody territory but deep drydown again is like bubblegum vanilla on my skin which probably means tonka kicked in together with loads of vanilla.

Not really my cup of tea, I'd say it's unisex (but in my terms leaning slightly feminine).

Performance wise - solid longevity, with stronger projection for at least 1h. Perfect for autumn, maybe even winter.

If that's your style - you will like it, for me it's boring and I've lost interest after several minutes of hand test.

belleofnewyork

I tested samples of both the original and the extrait. Many say they are the same, but on my skin they aren't. The original is slightly sweeter and fresher, pulls more fig. The extrait I get slightly more vanilla and it's heavier. They are fraternal, not identical, twins.

In comparing the two side by side, something about the smokey, spiciness of the extrait makes the original have a lipstick scent that I cannot unsmell now that I've noticed it. That lipstick smell and the lack of staying power in the original convinced me to buy a full bottle of the extrait.

OfTheValley

I can't believe how much I actually like it.
And I will layer it with Alluring Figue by Kalotinis, just one spray on clothes, but of course it's a beauty on its own.
A different, woody rendition of my favourite note ever: cardamom.

Adog22

Crazy how divided the reviews are. To me this is a super cozy and sweet cardamom and fig fragrance. Has a coconut accord.

Djpaulpatrick

Wow. This fragrance is a 10/10 for me and after years of searching for a new sig, i finally found it!

And after the first spray, I was disappointed and thought this was overhyped. The opening is a little sharp and does have that “funky” note as some describe, and the opening is also very heavy on the fig….

But…

As soon as it dries down its straight FIRE!!! The fig
is still noticeable but not over-powering & perfectly blended. Im not really a fan of fig, but this is done to perfection.

I understand why some reviewers were very turned off by this, but I hope they let it dry down and experienced the journey because its very complex and just sooo sooo good.

Still would understand if some arent a fan but im in love.

As for performance most fragrances perform terribly on my skin, Even with moisturizer/vaseline. But for some reason, this Extrait performed BEAST MODE on me. It might not project super far but the sillage was
Impressive and got a few compliments the first time
I wore it.

Try it… chances are you’re gonna buy it! 10/10. Well done BDK

Ba2siK

Pretty intense cardamon, I prefer the original

alessandrolertora2000

This perfume just hits different best fragrance out there for men IMO and im not even a fan of fruity scents just that this thing is too addictive nothing else quite like this masterpiece out there

maxpowerboston

Reviews below are all over the place on this one. I blind bought it for $130 as a tester on fragnet, so it wasn't a massive investment in terms of niche blind buys. It opens up dark, sweet and (unlike many below) I get fig right away. It's alongside strong vanilla, spices, and a hefty dose of Iso-E in the base. This is a fragrance for those who want something a bit of a step up from mall scents but nothing daring. It's a mass-appealing fragrance, more masculine to my nose, with a similar use case (and I'd say similar profile) to a Spicebomb Extreme/Bulgari Man Extreme.

Longevity for me was 6-8 hours with projection for an hour or two. Not a screamer but I didn't feel it underperformed (like a few mention below), at all.

A weak 8.0/10 for me. It's fairly high quality, very pleasing profile, wife liked it. I own a ton in this profile/use case, so it's not something I'll likely wear a ton in the fall/winter but it'll get rotation. If you like sweet, spicy scents with decent longevity and a step up in quality from designer (in most cases), you could do far worse for $150 or less. BDK is essentially another PdM/Initio and should be viewed as such.

Bibi16

This smells so good, the perfect balance of cardamom, fig & vanilla. This is sweater weather fragrance, not overpowering not underwhelming either, sits right in the middle.

Its sweet enough yet tea like, creamy with some deep undertone. The middle notes are blended to perfection, slight powdery feel (the tiniest amount of powder).

Smells fantastic on both gender. It's a deeper, darker, more vanillic and less herbal version of the OG Gris charnel.

pashaagirl

I absolutely can't relate the hype for this fragrance. I Was almost up to blind buy the scent upon the reviews i read. thank god I did not blind buy it. i ordered Samples and was sooo disappointed. There are so many other good fragrances but this one....not worth the hype.

This is class in a bottle. Opens up green spicy with fruity fig, dries down to a smooth, delicate spicy/woody scent with powderiness from the iris. Longevity is 8+ hours with a good projection. Worth sampling.

Paola12

If anyone is interested in buying a full bottle (100 ml) on a very good price, can contact me on the following address [email protected]. Only inside europe please. I like it but for me leans very masculine, so i have never used it.

brokesta911

BDK Gris Charnel Extrait (2022) - cardamom tonka - #mathildebijaoui starts with Smoky and hay-like Vetiver combined with Cardamom. In the background, dry & powdery Iris and creamy Sandalwood. As it progresses, the Tonka bean becomes more prominent leaving the Vetiver behind. Rich and opulent Labdanum and Cedar add depth and a strong backbone to the fragrance. Airy yet complex. Beautiful sillage amidst the leather, smoke, and woods.

WGG

Based on a sample. Toasted coconut then quite spicy then eventually into creamy, woody, slightly sweet base. Theres a funky note in here, 'classy carnal'. A female history professor who speaks five languages, looks and sounds like Charlotte Rampling/ Honor Blackman, married three times etc etc. A complex, sultry, sexy perfume well suited to night-out-dressed-up occasions, where the wearer will definitely attract attention but able to deal deftly with 'pests'.

Gorgeous. Glam. Get. I have become such a fan of the fig frags. This one is no exception. Opening is strong spice overlay of the fig. When the fig does kick in it takes center stage and becomes a bit cloying as figs do but hang tight because this mellows to a precious blend of warm, spicy, sweet, pachouli and tonka laced deliciousness. Very much a dress up fragrance that begs to be worn daily. While it may seem masculine leaning, ladies dont be dissuaded. Sillage is arms distance and longevity - well still lilting lightly after 9 hours. I got compliments from my toughest critics. So it is worthy of all the hype .... I say YES.

sonertan

I can't wait to give the best perfume award in all categories at the end of the year.. Especially drydown is awesome.. a creamy and deep rich sandalwood scent!

Cosmin David

In my opinion, this is the best men’s fragrance out on the market as of now.
This is a must if you care about compliments, Gris Charnel will have women and even men chase you down the street to ask what fragrance you got on.
The note that stands out the most for me is the smoky vetiver that adds a lot of depth, complexity and darkness to the fragrance. In combination with the vetiver, vanilla and tonka bean add warmth and creaminess.
Sensual scent that WILL leave a lasting impression to every single person.

I tested both the original and extrait of Gris Charnel on opposite wrists simultaneously, so this is a combined/comparative review! I've copied it to the reviews for the original scent as well.

Both smell promising and similar in the box (I got a BDK discovery set, which was pleasingly inexpensive for the range you get to try! I'm currently testing Pas Ce Soir as well and intend to go through my selection box)

My first impression of both the original and the extrait was somewhat herby and medicinal--like a fancy apothecary's shop, not unpleasant. After five minutes, there wasn't much change in the original but I could detect a luxurious sort of sweetness growing under the top notes of the extrait.

Half an hour later, both had mellowed into what was clearly two different versions of the same scent--which I appreciated, because I always find it annoying when e.g. an EDT and an EDP of the same name smell completely different! At this point, I think I was smelling a lot of the fig and tea notes, as it reminded me of the kind of posh cordial you'd get in a National Trust cafe in summer. That slightly medicinal tang is still there, but again, it's not unpleasant; it smells like an expensive version of something accessible. The extrait definitely has more depth and layers to it.

After an hour or two I thought I smelled something that reminded me a bit of coconutty suncream along with the cordial scent, especially in the original, but that didn't stick around. Once it's settled, the extrait smells to me like something a very rich lady might wear to a business meeting, along with a peplum jacket. Leaning feminine, but a force to be reckoned with. The original, by contrast, wasn't doing much for me; it was back to that woody apothecary scent, and didn't really change any further.

Finally, the extrait mellowed down into... chocolate?! Yep--right up close to my skin, the last remaining impression was of decadent, chocolatey sweetness, like a raspberry truffle. I really enjoyed the scent journey of this perfume, and I really liked comparing the two versions! If you're looking for a younger, more androgynous scent, I'd go with the original, but it's not a standout perfume for me. On the other hand, if you want something that smells powerful, decadent and grown-up, the extrait is the one to try!

Chanel de Lanvin

I tried perfume and I must say that I am disappointed with its performance.🤢
We are talking about 30% extracts here....I'm sorry I have frags that are not defined as extracts and that last much better, I'm not talking about sillage but about staying power, for example La Sultane de Saba, Emiro de Moresque...to stay in a similar range.
Just a skin perfume as soon as the perfume is sprayed, but afterwards nothing more.
I saw a comment referring to Alexandria II, there is no resemblance, neither in the materials and especially not in the outfit which is much superior and also has a powerful sillage.
I can affirm my experience since I own Alexandria II, so be careful when telling people about your experiences.
If you like figs, try Laurent Mazzone's Sine Die, I love it.

Flame Maiden

This is Gris Charnel in a black tuxedo! Stunning fragrance. It makes me feel mysteriously sexy and I want to dress in a suit with sexy lingerie hidden underneath. Definitely full bottle worthy for me. I think I like it more than the original.

stitcherista

I've been testing this for a week and can't decide if I want a bottle or not. It definitely wears like a cashmere cardigan (and I'm wearing a cashmere cardigan as I type this): soft, warm, calm, soothing, and fluffy. Testing this in spring I get the feeling that it would be good for all seasons, especially as summer where I live tends to be cool and dry.

My complaint would be that it's too low key and doesn't project. It's subtle, which to me means it's suitable for office wear. But I typically love big, loud, smoky incense type fragrances and I don't work in an office. While testing it, I can only smell it if I put my nose ON my skin.

Complaints aside, this scent becomes addictive. I'm drawn to keep trying it because some part of my brain *really* wants to smell it again. The underlying sweetness comes out over time, like dessert after a good meal. Fig and vetiver are two notes I usually don't vibe with, but here they are smooth and delicious.

I might have to buy this, darn it. If I do, I'll spray the heck out of it just so I can actually smell it.

Update: Yep, I bought it. 😁

Frugens

I find this one much more masculine to EDP

chelleholla

A cozy, creamy scent. I prefer the original to the extrait though. This extrait has a slightly sharper note that I dislike.

Acidula

My favorite from the discovery set. Good longevity, perfectly blended and balanced in its woody, creamy and sweet notes.
I'm not sure I'd buy a full bottle tho, given the price

ali7878

This is a fantastic creamy woody smoothly blended nighttime masterpiece of a fragrance.

Blazntrax

I'm a fan of the EDP version, even though I found it unisex leaning slightly feminine. I like this Extrait more. It leans slightly more masculine. The spices are amped up and that heavy fig presence from the EDP is a little more rounded off. This thing is just sexy. The vanilla and patchouli added to the tonka sandalwood combo really work wonders. This speaks to me as a night out scent, even though it could be worn in the daytime as well. The extrait performs better than the EDP as well. BDK crushed it with this release.

mihais

This is beautiful, very elegant. Feels like a more complex, niche version of Dior Homme intense. Seems more of a scent for formal occasions. The projection is quite soft, but it's consistent throughout the life of the fragrance. Longevity is quite good.

For me it seems like a redundant purchase, I have Dior homme intense and parfum, which, even though they smell somewhat different, have the same vibe. Also, I have many other niche scents for when I want that complexity. But otherwise I'd say it's worth the money; it is beautiful.

For those who care about that, it's not exactly a compliment magnet and not very sexy either. It will be appreciated though.

sandybony15

You take "6 place Saint Sulpice", "24 rue de l'Université", you add YSL's Nu (2011 version which has stronger cardamom notes than the 2001 Nu) and the end result is pretty similar to Gris Charnel Extrait. As the 3 fragrances I mentioned previously are some of my favorite fragrances, needless to say that I absolutely love Gris Charnel Extrait.

This fragrance is becoming one of my favorite fragrances. This is the type of fragrance that when wearing it, you just cannot stop smelling yourself. It is highly addictive.

I do not get the fig and black tea in the opening. The orris / iris gives to this fragrance a very luminous opening.

On my skin, I mainly get sandalwood + cardamom. I love the comforting and warm scent bubble this fragrance creates.

I am a woman and this fragrance can be perfectly worn by women.

As I have never tried the OG, I cannot compare the Extrait with the OG.

Silencer1

Very Nice, but this just dries down to a niche version of Roberto Cavali Silver Essence. Both rely on cardamom, orris/iris, tonka bean, patchouli, vetiver. The main difference is Silver Essence uses Ginger and Violet to brighten up/lighten up its composition in the top and mid, whereas Gris Charnel EDP uses Fig & Black Tea, so this goes in a slightly more herbal lactonic direction in the opening, whereas Silver Essence goes in a slightly fresh, zingy direction in the opening. This is definitely higher quality though, but if you dont feel like paying $300 for this, Roberto Cavali Silver Essence will get you kind of close to the same vibe

Kizzyb93

Ok so I’m a huge fan of the original, and I have to be real about this one at first this wasn’t vibing with me
In the same way, the original date with me, I found this one a lot more masculine at first. That being said as the day went past, it got better. Then when I came home from work today my partner then came up to me and asked if I had been at the spa today. I said no, and he said well you smell like you have. And that’s when it hit me. This does smell like a spa resort, at least the one that we go to anyway.
All in all, I much prefer the original. This is nice, but this is probably better for a man. I’m a woman who loves to wear men’s fragrances however, this one was a bit too much for me
Longevity on this is nuclear and did last the whole day with a decent scent bubble

hassankhalid91

good projector.. worth the price but no hype

This has that wonderful dna of the edp with the added cloying, thick skank that you sadly find in so many hyped up fragrance these days. You know, that smell that makes you feel the urge to go take a shower? Like must, BO, chemicals, etc. Just stick with the EDP.

SilverRhye

Let me tell yall something...be careful with this one because it will grow on you. When I first sprayed it, I felt let down because it did not smell the way that I hoped. I've never smelled the original so I went into this entirely blind. I was dissapointed with it because I was expecting something more fruity/figgy, so I put it away and didn't come back to it for about a week. The next time I sprayed it, I entered a state of incredible bliss. It completely envelopes you in a deep, dark, spicy, woody, vanillic scent bubble. This one has a dark sophistication to it that I just cannot get over, yet its comforting at the same time. It's alluring and screams confidence. It leans very slightly masculine, but only by a hair. A woman could wear this and would stand out because it's such a classy scent. I already have Pas Ce Soir by BDK, but I will need a full bottle of this one as well for the cool weather.

My5Scents

The fig and black tea accord brings to mind Le Labo Thé Noir but this is entirely different - much richer, sweeter, darker, more complex and definitely more sumptuous.
It’s a multi faceted experience, passing through many transitions, which keeps it interesting.
It’s one of those unisex frags that would come off more feminine on a woman but more masculine on a man, as I smell it I keep wavering between the two genders and this is a part of its fascination for me.
Seems more suited to cooler weather and more nighttime than day. Would work well when dressed up for some special occasion as it conveys elegance and sophistication, in the same vein as Grand Soir (which smells very different but has the same vibe).
Performance is excellent, projects very strongly with good longevity.
I get the hype, this is something quite special.

deoeternus

Niche version of Givenchy's Gentleman EDT Intense with Tom Ford's Oud Wood vibes. (Check out the scent pyramids.)
Gris Charnel Extrait is more luxurious and creamier with vanilla. Its scent bubble is robust and classy. The fig up top gives this a special fresh/sweetness. Very pleasant and long-lasting. Great for dressier occasions or formal evenings.
Gentleman EDT Intense is more aromatic, slightly more masculine, and has a more circumscribed scent bubble. This makes it a great office scent.

alternateu

I like it!
It's a little "sharper" and "spicier" than the standard Gris Charnel to my nose. Gris Charnel is perfectly "round" and blended to me, but the Extrait is a little darker and has a little more edge.
It's unisex to very slightly more masculine, but a woman could easily wear this. Do you really need both in your collection - probably not, my personal preference (female) is for the standard Gris Charnel, but if you prefer spicier fragrances, maybe the Extrait will be more up your alley.

Harmavelli

I got a sample of this in the beginning of February. This most definitely YSL LNDL on steroids but with more character and depth .. just such a luxurious scent on my skin.

Will most definitely get a bottle.

FragBoy Stewie

Sorry about the Dragon Ball Z references, but here goes...
DH => Saiyan
DHI => Super Saiyan
Gris Charnel Extrait => Ascended Super Saiyan
DHP => Ultra Super Saiyan

This is the best way I can describe the scent. It's almost like BDK took the lipsticky attribute out and replaced it with something more refined and upscale (prob. fig+black tea)...I honestly don't think I can ever go back to DHI after trying this. Great release from the house and I can't wait to get a full bottle of this!

skoenig4

Gris Charnel Extrait is absolutely divine. The assortment of notes is mouthwatering: I can pick apart each note individually, yet it's blended beautifully.
In the foreground, I pick up on the fig and tea giving it an almost-bitter green quality (think Parisian Musc by Matiere Premiere?), but soon this intertwines with the warm spiciness of cardamom, rounding out the opening in a rich, masculine way.
Each of these top notes dances above a soft, creamy bed of sandalwood, iris, and tonka bean which work perfectly together (think Dior Homme Intense, maybe slightly less powdery but instead creamy). These three notes last for the bulk of the fragrance's longevity and leave behind a gorgeous vanilla note which lingers on my skin far after the rest of the notes are gone.
The longevity and sillage are powerful... this stuff lasts and lasts.
Gris Charnel Extrait is a truly magical fragrance. It smells masculine but not too masculine- as an 18-year-old who can hardly grow facial hair, I feel I can definitely wear this confidently.
This is the PERFECT fragrance for rainy days. And can be worn 3.5/4 seasons (barring hot summer days)
FB worthy and (dare I say) worth the price!

Samantha 12

This is spicier woodier hitter than the EDP - still true to the original, its softens nicely in the dry down. The tea is more present, at least to my nose. Denser in profile and slightly more masculine leaning. I would where the EDP anytime, this I would be more selective when and where. The EDP meshes with me like a warm hug, the extrait is more like a firm handshake.

Dashing_Zero

Wonderful fragrance to follow up BDK's Gris Charnel EDP. I love the route they took with this one. I get a lot of similarities to Dior Homme Intense, with DHI being heavier on the woods/being a bit sharper while BDK GC Extrait leans more on the sweeter notes and has a creamier dry down. Certainly not a 1:1 comparison but if you like DHI-esque fragrances then this will be a winner. (If the rumors that DHI really is discontinued in NA are true, then this would be a worthy replacement).

dschuman88

Just picked this up today. Very well balanced frag can be worn by either sex. Absolutely love it

zaref

Does anyone else not get Dior Homme Intense vibes from this but more complex? Haven’t really given it a chance to dry down yet but that’s what I get at first sniff.

Vesperexa

To me, the EDP is the daytime version, and this is the night version. It does lean more masculine than the EDP to my nose. Darker, spicier, and I smell the tea a lot less. I think this is gorgeous and I love it as much as the EDP, just in a different way.

Edit: The more I wear this, the more I love it. When I wear this I feel like a dark, sexy creature being mysterious in the night. The EDP isn't really as carnal as the name suggests, but this really is.

Squishyy

Hahahaha, of course this would be a banger... I have the original, as well as YSL 6, and this is the superior of the three. Go figures, it was the last one I got my nose on. It's unquestionably niche in profile and quality, but it is as wearable as any designer.

Vs EDP Version: First thing everyone wants to know—how's the performance? It's kinda just, fine? Neither this nor the edp are strong projectors, but the Extrait seems the better of the two. The same goes for longevity. I maybe get an extra hour out of this. Scent-wise, imagine you amped up all the base notes in the original and added a moderate dose of vanilla. That's what the Extrait does. Heavier on the tonka and woods. Richer. Same fig, tea, and cardamom at the top. These are both very middle unisex, but where I'd rate the edp as 53(f)/47(m), this one is 53(m)/47(f).

Vs YSL 6: If you removed the Fig from Gris Charnel Extrait, I don't know if I'd be able to tell these apart. For that reason, I think this one is a more finished-feeling fragrance, and I prefer it. If the fig in this turns you off, you'd probably enjoy that one a lot more! But be careful that it leans much more masculine without that note. As a guy, you honestly can't go wrong with either of these two, and it comes down to personal preference.

If you consider this a 'gateway' niche, it's a homerun 10/10. It's completely un-generic, but also isn't a bold scent. For people searching for something that's gonna make their nostrils flare, this is not that. If you're just tryna smell scrumptious, this is definitely that.

Edemay

Too much spice and wood
Very masculine
I’m hoping the the original smells better than this

flugsang

On me it's very similar to the original! I've sprayed both on each of my arms. Where the OG Gris Charnel dances lightly with the woods & sweet notes, the Extrait is a much deeper dive. Think of it as a song where you boosted the bass five times louder such that it plays at the same volume as the vocals. I think it's a nice experience to compare the two! Both play to their strengths well, and it's an interesting view at perfumery where you're given the same notes but at different intensities & formulations. Not sure if I'd full bottle this, but I'm digging my 3mL decant a lot for sure

Also as a testament to its extrait-ness, I've worn this to sleep a couple of times and have that fig-cardamom-iris trifecta stick to my blanket for about two days 👍

Fountain30

It’s barely any different from the EDP. Even the performance is the same… it’s so so subtle. Don’t waste your money

pink gallery gal

Trying out the sample and it’s a just not for me. So glad I tested before buying as I nearly blind bought it. It’s very masculine and actually think my husband could rock it.

aaronmy

This is a smooth, creamy, mysterious, and dark fragrance. This is a true unisex fragrance that could be feminine on a lady, and masculine on a guy. This is supposed to be a popular black tea fragrance, but for me I don’t really get the tea note so much. That could be a good thing because the tea note smells feminine to me. This fragrance lasts about 8 hours on me and only projected moderately for myself. It’s good and I love the sandalwood in this. I smell this more towards the end of the fragrance life. 10/10 for me.

JackedHarlow

This is like if regular Gris Charnel punched you in the face and it hurt for like an hour but then came back and gave you a warm hug to apologize. It's great! If you can afford to be patient and wait a while for the drydown it can be rewarding.

Fenissa

This is such an interesting perfume to wear.
Smells like a beautiful smoky vetiver/tonka bean bomb up close to the skin, but radiates a sweetness from the fig, vanilla and cistus incanus. Slight aromatic spice from the cardamon. The woods and vetiver lay a solid foundation to all the other notes yet don't dominate. It's a perfectly balanced fragrance and 100% worthy of the hype.
I think if you enjoy Fan Your Flames by Nishane you will love this too.
Definitely unisex to my nose. I don't think it leans in any direction, however if you're a lady who prefers white florals or a man who favours aquatics it may not be for you.
Strong longevity and silage. More suited to colder months of the year.

Rjdee

Stunning. Soft, intoxicating.

Jewmack

Bought this because of all the rave reviews I’ve been reading on this…

It smells identical to Valentino Uomo Noir Absolu Valentino or Michael Malul Jet Black.
Definitely leans much more masculine than than feminine and 100% a cold weather fragrance.

I’d give 5/10

RawSmells

Oh my days! @Swashbuckler9x I nearly fell off the couch laughing at the review, in a very good way!! that's hilarious, sorry no review here....yet, just had to comment :D

snifftacular

Subtle and bold at the same time. It's so creamy and smooth it really just blends in with my skin. In addition to all the listed notes, I also get a dark chocolate accord that is surprisingly good. It makes me think of smelling a freshly opened bag of dark chocolate nibs, the ones used for baking.

Very cozy fragrance.

Longevity is huge, 8+ hours on skin, 12+ on clothing.

Definitely more masculine than the original, but the original is quite unisex already.

Overall an impressive fragrance that manages to do homage to the OG while finding a use-case of its own.

Swashbuckler9x

I tried this earlier today and almost had sex with myself a few times. It's snowing here, I went outside for a cigarette and all the snow within a half mile radius around me melted and I can sense demon ladies from another realm hunting after me.

Creamy, masculine cardamom with a woody vanillic base. The fig isn't prominent, it just adds a very fitting and very welcome dark, smooth element.
Rock this with a suede jacket and you're unstoppable.

Isabellagd

I own both Gris Charnel EDP and Gris Charnel Extrait, and the Extrait is my favourite of the two. They are similar but not identical and like many people said, if this is a scent profile you enjoy, it would not be redundant to own both.

The Extrait is a more intense, dark, intoxicating version of the original Gris Charnel. I believe it's the vanilla, combined with tonka bean, that contributes to the exquisite dry down of the Extrait. To me, it's 100% unisex but you need to enjoy this scent profile to like this - woody, dark vanilla, sandalwood and cardamom. If you're only used to wearing very feminine, sweet, floral fragrances, this will appear slightly masculine to you.

The Extrait has very good longevity on me - I get 8 to 10 hours with strong projection for the first 4 hours. With the original Gris Charnel, I only got around 4-6 hours, with moderate projection for the first 2 hours.

I still wear and love both, but I save the original Gris Charnel for everyday use, and the Extrait for evening and going out, when I want my fragrance to be bold and noticeable. If there's one word I could use to describe the Extrait, it's confident - this is how you will feel when wearing it.

Also, don't be put off by the price - this is a 100ml bottle, which you can often get with a 10% of 15% discount, which makes it a lot more affordable than other niche fragrances. I absolutely love BDK as a house and I find them very affordable compared to other niche houses - when you look at the price per ml - and the quality definitely is there.

GoldIris

The opening is amazing, I was so excited after smelling the first 3 minutes, but then it quickly dries down to what I can best describe as the far dry down of your average designer woody/leathery vanilla fragrance. Doesn't smell bad, but the opening was just too good to be true I guess.

autoperk

I did a wrist-to-wrist comparison of extrait vs the original Gris Charnel. They are very different from one another. Smart from a marketing standpoint as you wouldn`t be crazy owning both. The extrait held no advantage in longevity and only briefly in projection. It feels thicker and gets a touch sour in the dry down. The extrait is quite smokey with a generous dollop of sticky black vanilla. This is good but these dark elements push the extrait over the jagged ledge into the realm of classic style perfume. The original GC is one of a kind while the extrait is awesome yet one of many. Might as well just wait for YSL Babycat to be released in the states. Or grab that bottle of Black Orchid on sale at Sephora.
UP DATE: I applied extrait, waited about an hour then layered the origional over top. The sum became far more than it`s parts. I guess you can improve on perfection....sorry Sephora.

cloudswirl

I want to say I really enjoy both the original Gris Charnel and the extrait. When it comes to each perfume, I think they are both lovely and have truly been the only perfumes that made me go "wow!" at first sniff. When it came to buying a full bottle, I had a tough decision when it came to investing in the parfum or the extrait. I wish I could buy both, because they're both different enough that I don't think it's redundant. So to other commenters saying if it's ridiculous to have both, absolutely not imo.

I really enjoy the darker vibe of this one, and this one also has a depth of creamy notes on my skin that I find heavenly. The original has only a fraction of that same creaminess, but leaves my skin fairly quickly. The extrait gives me a solid 12 hours of wear, projecting heavily the first 6 or so hours.

I can see how others would find this too intense though, and maybe even too dark if you enjoy the original. The added depth in this one really works well with my skin chemistry, and for me personally I think it let's the true notes of Gris Charnel shine. It can lean a bit masculine, but I still think it's unisex enough for anyone.

I felt more confident wearing this one than the original, so I ended up buying a full bottle.

Esna

I thought this extrait version would smell just like the original but intense and longer lasting. This version doesn’t give me that blue coconut syrup nuance that I love in the original. The tea note is sweeter, translucent and softer in the original, and this version has a dark unsweetened tea note. Definitely lasts longer.

It’s a masculine version; very nice men’s fragrance for fall season.

AquaBaby5

On me this is more woody masculine than the original. I’m a woman and my skin does not tend to amplify many things but I suppose it does amplify vetiver. I can’t pull off basically any vetiver other than the very smoothed out and sweetened Bal D’afrique apparently. Not my jam, but I enjoy the original Gris Charnel for its similarity to Jeux de Peau.

orangelips11

The fig is dominate this fragrance, if you love fig or fruity scent you might like this one, dry down is more woody,
performance is great too

overall

daniellecatherine

Wow. My first impression was - holy aroma chemicals! I guess this is the trend lately, less natural smelling, more chemical. It is deep, slightly sweet, spicy, woody, very strong, interesting (kept smelling myself to observe changes and marvel at how long it lasted) and, as stated, it lasts FOREVER. I sprayed on my inner wrist and the back of my wrist and I can still smell it over 24 hours later, nose to wrist. Beast mode, super long lasting, pulls a bit too masculine on me to want to purchase a bottle, though I will use up my decant. It now has me interested in the original Gris Charnel, which I haven't smelled yet. Longest lasting new (non-vintage) perfume I've tried in a long time.

Thatbwoy

Wow the fig in this is really jammy and feels a tad overripe, but it’s oddly clean not sticky and syrupy. I think the vetiver dries it out but not enough for me. I like it but I don’t think I’d wear it though.

7/10

Jay13

People saying this doesn’t last are going anosmic to it. It smells like a vetiver bomb to me and I HATE vetiver. I had to wash this off with soap and water with an hr of applying. I HATE the smell of vetiver that much. Then I went to work overnight with Armani code edp on. About 10 hrs later as the code was wearing off I was like omfg. I started smelling hints of vetiver still on my skin coming out after washing this crap off. Wife wasn’t a fan of it either. When I tried it her comment was wtf are you wearing. I said a mistake and she said you think!? So apparently she doesn’t like vetiver either. Threw my decant away.

Stewbaca

I am a huge fan of the EDP so I had to get the extrait. This is one of my favorites in my entire collection. A darker version of the original. I must be blessed with good skin. I am getting an easy 10 hours out of this.

iszzieanna

I still have mixed feelings on the extrait. I think it's perfectly unisex and has a beautiful trail. The projection is soft but the sillage is stunning. It's beautiful. But it's not the original. This is smokier, sweeter and has a lot more heavier notes. The patchouli, vetiver and woody notes takes this in a different direction. I can still get whiffs of the original DNA within the extrait, but along with heavy cardamom, vetiver and an intriguing combination of vanilla-iris. This is lovely but my heart will always love the original. However, if I smelt the extrait first, I would have fallen in love with this blend first. In the bitter dry down, I get more of the milky sandalwood in the original. I do miss the clean airiness of the OG, but I appreciate that they didn't put the original in different packaging or make a whole new fragrance.

arizonaruby

Warm and sexy. Fig, woods and patchouli are the dominant notes on me. When I first sprayed I loved it, but the longevity was really disappointing - gone after a couple of hours.

zotykiel

Interesting how it's savory on some. On me it smells a lot like Crystal Noir, leaning a little bit on a feminine side (and I'm a dude). There is a savory side to it, but not much.

And by the way, how is it possible that an "extrait" performs so poorly?

mizur

Love the scent… it’s a lovechild between Gris Charnel and 6 Place Saint Sulpice from YSL.

Heavy on the spices, specially the Cardamom, with an aura of Black Tea, and a beautiful Tonka/Sandal bottom. The Fig is quite toned down, almost undetectable, and so are the rest of the notes.

As mentioned, I completely get the 6 Place Saint Sulpice reference, although that one is darker and dryer… I also get the Penhaligon’s references, specifically with Mr. Sam, I don’t find it that similar to Yasmine which is heavier on the incense and oud.

There is yet another unfortunate similarity with Penhaligon’s perfumes… the terrible performance. Projection is between moderate to intimate, with longevity being only a few hours… quite disappointing for an Extrait de Parfum… in reality more like scented water.

It leans a bit manly, but I don’t see any reason why a woman couldn’t wear it and smell amazing. It’s preferably a cold weather scent, although it could also be an everyday scent on mild weathered places. Constant reapplying required.

Beautiful cozy scent with lousy performance.

I’m very familiar with cardamom, and let me tell you - this is a cardamom bomb! If you don’t like cardamom, you should stay away from this fragrance. It settles down a bit after a while, but it’s still very noticeable. In contrast to many others, I perceive this fragrance more cold than warm because of the tea and fig notes. Personally I would enjoy this more if it was more balanced. A bit more vanilla wouldn’t hurt, but this is only a personal preference.

@takemymoney - I have both. I've worn extrait 25x and original 11x so far this year (1st and 4th respectively among my most worn scents). Original was better suited for warmer summer days, it wasn't suffocating, was fairly light and airy. Extrait was my spring go-to and now that fall is rolling around, it's going to get wear with the rest of my fall lineup.

TLDR: Owning both is fine - they serve different functions.

I have the OG and was given a sample of this. I had heard people saying you could justify owning both and thought that was insane. But now that I am wearing it…. I love it. It is the amped up version of the original but with more spice and more depth. Dammit. I love it. But is it mental to have both lol?!?

I just had to sign up just for this review. The parfume is amazing, love the smell.
BUT…!
It stays on skin maximum of 30 minutes, if even that. Has no sillage whatsoever, nobody can feel it on me even upclose. If you value your money at all, do not invest. Probably the biggest disappointment of my life, not even parfume wise but overall.

Glassfury

This is quite an experience. Very luscious, very heavy, and quite powerful sillage on first spray. It carries the theme of the original but the Extrait REALLY amps it up, and I can smell it on myself for HOURS (which means everyone else surely can too). It's honky-tonky loud.

I can't find the fig in it, to me it's dark, smoky, somewhat gourmand, with some darker notes of spice and tea. Very smooth, though quite a flat weight to it with the vanilla on my skin. I find it similar in theme to Le Labo's Thé Noir, but I much prefer this one in execution. Like wearing a heavy grey coat in winter, but while the original is a Parisian silk and velvet, this one is heavy fur and belongs to a Russian oligarch.

Wow, just got a decant off this, and it is incredible! The opening is much more woody and spicy. There is a slight smokiness as well. The fig is much less prominent in the opening. After about 30 min the creamy fig/sandalwood begins to come forward, with a hint of vanilla. I don’t get the tea note in this. It is very strong and lasts forever. It doesn’t seem to have the sweet cloying aspect that the eau de parfum has on me. I love them both. The original leans very fem on me (cis female) and the extrait is a lot more masculine. I do think that the extrait would be amazing for both. I never recommend a blind buy, but especially need to get a good size decant before you buy in both to see how it works with your skin under varying conditions. Last note: this is one of the best scents I’ve ever smelled, and I have gotten compliments and even one person chasing me down. It’s definitely a ppl magnet.

To my nose this was a warm, sweet, fruity, and gourmand experience—albeit somewhat subdued. I think it is comforting and pleasant but my weak nose wants a bit more sillage to make it worth the price. Unfortunately my sample ran out in just two wearings. I want to resample or get a decant to come back to later.

Solar Girl

On my skin this is spicy vetiver bomb. Like 80% vetiver and the rest cardamom, and not much more. Quite masculine. Oh yes, and some aromachemicals to make it...you know, modern. Projects and lasts a lot.

Opens up sweet with the Fig and the Vanilla. Once some of the sweetness starts to fade it has a wonderful woodsy dry-down and the other notes, such as the florals, get more of a chance to shine. You have to like Fig as it is very dominating and distinct. I'm not usually a fan of Fig but I like it here. But to me the quality of the dry-down is where it's at.

Perfumery at its finest, this is simply incredible. I had a decant of the original and I loved it, that enabled me to pull the trigger and blind buy the extrait. Obviously £220 blind buy is a risk, but wow I couldn’t be happier. This fragrance oozes class and I can’t wait to wear it during fall/winter.

Amazing beautiful spicy unisex more masculine niche version of La nuit de lhomme perfect for fall! 11/10
