Green, juicy and bright. Slightly latonic. Spring and cool summer days.

i love fragrances that convey a certain feeling and this one does that perfectly, it makes me feel like im drinking tea and reading a book on a rainy day. this is in my top 10 fragrances of all time. it has meh longevity and projection. so good for like a not too strong every day rainy day type scent.

tylerss20

One of the more soothing, calming fragrances I've tried. Performance is meh, but a top notch unisex warm weather fragrance that anyone can pull off.

bierhaus

Smells very much like Lacoste Essential upon drydown. The opening however is very effeminate. I wouldn't go out of the house before letting the opening dry down. I wouldn't call this a "green" fragrance, more vegetal in nature, just like Lacoste Essential.

SpendThrift74

Do you want a fragrance that is light, very natural, and smells like you just spent a prolonged time trimming hothouse plants?

If so, this is the one for you.

For me, I see the appeal of this fragrance, but I am not sure how much I like it. I don't smell much citrus. I don't detect much in the way of woods. To me, it smells like dark green leaves and "peppery" grass roots. To be honest, there is some component in this fragrance that smells just like when I "weed-whack" my yard-- a kind of spicy herbal smell I haven't encountered anywhere else.

This does not smell like a fragrance to me, per se. It smells like someone made a tincture of botanical leaves and roots and spritzed it on me. Now, that does not mean it is bad. I think that is exactly what this fragrance is going for. And it succeeds!

To put it another way, it smells like a more masculine, more natural version of an Herbal Essence shampoo.

Again, this is not bad. I will wear it. It just does not hit me like a "fragrance." It hits me more like a setting. It could be a Maison Margiela Replica fragrance, "Day at the Botanical Gardens."

Mzawacki99

Does it last long? No. Does it project well? Not really. But this is one of the most relaxing and comforting fragrances I’ve ever smelled. Very grassy, green, and fresh. Super safe to wear. 100% recommend picking this up at the $20 price point you can find it at in rack stores.

IrisCroatica

This is really a lovely, fresh, positive and uplifting fragrance. Longevity is like an average cologne, but I don't mind reapplying. I mostly get citruses, tea and herbs, not much of fig. Its still very nice and great for warmer weather

SweetPeaPea

At first I was not sure what to think until I wore it on a crisp clear spring morning. Green is my favorite color and this is GREEN. When I finally tried Mugler Cologne Come Together, I knew I had found my wheelhouse. Scent is 10/10 would bang again. Yeah, longevity could be better, but it was only 20 bucks for a 75ml, so I will decant and happily respray. Luckily I just found two backup bottles at Ross. Now I'll be on the hunt for the niche version of this that lasts and lasts.

ivelino

Feminine and blah. Do not recommend.

Sammi4443

Very good price value here. Very mid performance but incredible smell. smells like a 100+ dollar fragrance with this quality. very good summer and warm springtime fragrance. very green and citrusy. more suitable for younger people. The name isn't very suitable for this fragrance as it's not particularly vintage smelling. more modern smelling if anything . would recommend

1mck_Shane

Is it bright? Yes.
Is it green? YES.
Grassy? Oh yeah!
Does it remind me of what fresh bedding for the cage of a pet rodent smells like? Sadly, very much so.
I ordered a sample of this fragrance and I was more curious than anything as we approach spring. I don't want to say the scent is bad by any means, it's a very lovely green, springy, scent. But, to me, it is reminiscent of a pet store, in a mall, from the 90s.

NoMilkToday

I like the scent itself, but it's too expensive given how long it lasts - an hour max?

Cajunscents

I've been sleeping on this. See it here and there at the rack stores and have had in my cart a few times and put back. I already have Neroli Woods, Tobacco and Tonka Bean, and Metal Rain. All being very good. Vintage Green is the best of the group. Banana Republic really does citrus and white florals well. Smells like a very natural bergamot and mandarin in the opening with the touch of sharp greens and magnolia in the background. Man this is good.

In the mid the tea starts to come out a little more and a drop of fig, all well blended. If you told me this was Acqua di Parma, I wouldn't doubt it for a second. I've seen comparisons to Wulong Cha but in my opinion Vintage Green leans more masculine than WC. Vintage Green doesn't smell the same as but does the same thing as Versace Man Eau Fraiche, but VG smells higher quality.

Verdict: I've been looking for a citrus fragrance in this style and this hits the spot. To be able to get this for $20 is a huge bonus. It's worth 4x that to me.

Scent: 8.75/10 - very nice and uplifting, yet relaxing at the same time.

Performance: 6/10 - Vintage Green does something similar to what Versace Man Eau Fraiche does and I get similar performance. 5-6 hours. You can go 5 or 6 sprays with this. It'll be strong invigorating citrus at first, then smooth out.

HazeRedux

Stopped by a Ross for a quick restroom break and ended up browsing their colognes on the way out. This one caught my attention, and after skimming through some reviews, I decided to grab it for about $20.

My partner isn't usually into strong scents, so I thought she'd appreciate this one. Turns out, she absolutely loves it.

I can't pick up on all the notes mentioned in the reviews. For me, it's mainly the tea leaves, floral notes, and fig that stand out. It's a simple yet fresh scent, perfect for casual occasions, especially in Spring and Fall. Imagine sitting beside a fountain in a lush, blossoming garden.

Not sure if I'd pay full price for it, but if you stumble upon it at a good discount, it's worth giving a try.

It's not my top choice for a green scent (that honor goes to Truefitt & Hill's Grafton, with its more masculine edge). It’s absolutely a unisex scent and something I would enjoy smelling on a woman.

Either way, it’s definitely a designer quality fragrance. The only downside is that it doesn't last very long and tends to stay close to the skin, but overall, it's a great find, especially at that price.

hussrahal

I can see the comparisons to Wulong Cha, but in my opinion this is way better.

Creamy_ambrette

If you like fresh fragrances that highlight green/grassy notes I think you’d love this! It opens with a slighty sharp green/grassy note that’s soften with the florals and a little sweetness. There’s no spice but I think the vetiver is creating the illusion of spice in the top. Unfortunately not for me, maybe if the green note were toned down and the florals/fig were pretty noticeable but I can appreciate that this is a quality fragrance.

woomanmoomin

@Kevin1980 Let me get this straight: 18 sprays plus some drizzle on your shirt? And you don't think the first ten people you cross paths with at the supermarket want to punch you in the soul?

DougFresh

Juicy, bright, bergamot. Clean, green, vetiver. Not soapy, yet super fresh. Unisex but leans masculine. Uplifting scent great for spring and summer. I enjoy this scent most on a weekend morning while lounging around the house in a robe.

RelaxItsTax

Fantastic Fragrance if you can find it under $30. And that can be pretty much said for any of the ICON series fragrances from this house. Tobacco & Tonka, and Linen and Vetiver being the top two in my opinion. Cherry and Amber is an absolutely delicious fragrance. 17 Oud Mosiac and 90 Pure white are probably the most challenging of the bunch. Oud mosiac is warming up to me with each subsequent wear. 78 Vintage Green is a blast of everything botanical and green and fresh. Easy compliments. Non offensive. Perfect for the spring and Summer. Perfect unisex balance. Your results may vary.

MSKMAN

Vintage green smells terrific and is hype-worthy. It is a great summer/spring scent. Performance is not so outstanding, but for the right price, why complain? Get an extra bottle and bathe in the fragrance if you wish; no one will complain.

BrilloPadLover

Boring, weak, not worth $20.

sorvaahr

@Sanguine_scenttrails: I knew this was incredibly familiar to me! I bought Harry's while at my in-laws in South Carolina and I remember thinking how amazing they are compared to most Old Spice/Axe. Yeah, to me this is very much like Nishane's Wulong Cha without the scathing floral citrus note I get from it (maybe Wulong Cha X makes this better?). Vintage Green is much gentler, tamer and pleasant, bright and zesty but no sharp citrus. This will be an amazing Spring/Summer scent. You can't go wrong with this for price, super good value.

Sanguine_scenttrails

78 Vintage Green is the olfactive love-child of Hermes Un Jardin En Mediterranee and Harry’s fig line.

And thank GOODNESS for that. This is easily the best $20 I’ve spent on a fragrance in a long time. We open with a burst of bergamot and a refreshing juicy blast of green fruit. As it dries down, you’re taken on a journey through leaves until you’re left with the most beautiful dry and juicy, creamy spicy fig scent.

If Un Jardin En Mediterranee is the fresh aquatic fig garden, then 78 Vintage Green is the same fruit and vegetation— plucked from the garden and placed on a provincial wooden table and decorated with the spicy warmth of Harry’s Fig. Ready for a sensory feast. Warm, niche, and elegantly versatile. I could see this as an all season green scent but this will really shine in spring and fall.

Rocky Dogboa

For $20 at my local rack store, I am blown away by the quality of this fragrance. I have $100+ designer fragrances that doesn't stand up to this juice right here. Just beautiful, uplifting and fresh is what you get with this one. A spring and summer banger, but can wear In those early fall months while it's still a bit warm. Blind buy and back up bottle worthy. Too good!

ScentKraken

If you are looking for a fresh, refreshing, invigorating, and clean scent, then look no further. This stuff is a gem. It just works. It's not sweet at all in my opinion; it's actually quite bitter. It's super green. I love this scent so much. 8.5/10.

plumtobacco

grassy celery. a hard no.

Kevin1980

EXCELLENT hot weather (80+ degrees) and if you're having a problem with longevity, just spray more like I did. I get 6-8 hours easy. Four to the chest, two each on the back and front of the neck, two in each elbow, two down the front of the inside of your shirt, two on each wrist and dab up and down on the outside of the shirt. Add two to the face of freshly shaven.

Chris6815

This smells really good if you can even smell it. The performance is poor to say the least. I think I may have solved it buy spraying my neck like 5-10 times. For the smell I would say it’s probably one the best Green Frags I’ve ever smelled. I would absolutely love this if it had decent performance.

Alphabrahma

This is a very great fresh fragrance that suffers from poor projection and sillage. I also have Linen Vetiver, 17 Oud Mosaic, 90 Pure White and Grassland and they are all great fragrances but lack Umph. I would rate all, but 17 Oud Mosaic which I would rate 4/10 because the fragrance is not very good, 6/10 because of this issue. However, if you can handle 16 sprays these scents are totally fresh and non-offensive in any way these fragrances may be for you. In that case I would rate them 8/10 (except 17 Oud Mosaic, 5/10)

I picked these up for ~ $35/ea for 75ml on The Perfume Spot. Other sites are charging $70+ and I would not purchase these for that price.

planetwally

Got this after trying the Tobacco and Tonka bean and researching more from the Icon line. This is probably my favorite out of the 3 I have purchased so far (Tobacco and Tonka, 90 and 78). Starts very citrusy and woody, but the top notes very quickly dissolve and you're left with a wonderful herbal and green tea, light scent with slight wood undertones. I love it and will definitely get a backup bottle when I next see it. I have played with layering the Icon fragrances and because of their simple composition they layer very well with others -- I know some shun layering, but try it, it's fun to experiment and sometimes you get some amazing scents.

coachkeith

I purchased this scent today after watching a few YT vids about it.
Got it a Burlington Coat Factory on my lunch break for $20.
This is one of my favorite scents in my collection of (30).

guitarplyr113

I'm wearing this for the first time today and I got a whiff of to try down, and immediately thought I'd lost my mind because it smelled so similar to Afternoon Swim. I was glad to see that there's a couple other reviewers below me that found the similarities well. It's what I would imagine after noon swim with smell like if you replace the citrus notes with green ones. For the price you can get this fragrance, it's absolutely stellar. I'm not always a huge vetiver fan, but this for me is about as good as it gets.

Marlinte

Definitely a sibling from Hermés Un Jardin Mediterranee.
Opening a little sharper citrus, more like a cologne, drydown a little less green.
But definitely same feeling.
Lovely fresh green summer scent.
Unisex for sure.
I am wearing this all summer now, definitely my favorite for this year, especially layered with some more heavy fig scents.
Absolutely LOVE it!!!!

luanneog

Opening smells like Nenuco baby cologne, also kind of like Jean Nate. It's green, citrusy, fresh and calming. The dry down smells more of florals and soft woods. Weak longevity.

Arthur Bolyn

FWIW I think this smells identical to Paul Smith's Optimistic and very similar to Ted Baker's Skinwear and looking at those pages I can see why.

This however is much weaker (also tried this line's Tobacco and Tonka bean, which is is stronger and lasts longer than 78 Vintage Green)

I get some tea but it's mostly citrus and "green" woody scent. It's more complex and balanced that I'm making it sound, Its light but would say more masculine for what's that's worth, perhaps a *little* CKone, but I don't imagine many women buying this for themselves.

It's smells good, it's a safe green scent, it smells like other nice things and I really like this smell and will definitely wear it, but I will have to overspray it so it won't last as long.

If you like this fragrance compare this with Optimistic and Skinwear see whats the better deal at the time. Skinwear is always on sale but is also quite weak too.

benlippi

Opening is nice but the performance is extremely weak for me. Maybe I got a bad bottle.

LeeloSteelo

I bought this because it smells like Harry’s Fig line. I would have to agree but this leans more green and less sweet than Harry’s. Otherwise it’s a perfect match. I think it’s a great value and perfectly unisex if you’re into putting fragrances into those categories. I’m a female and my son wears it too. Longevity is a solid 4 hours which isn’t too bad for the cost.

Esna

So underrated. I’m into niche scents and despise designer popular scents, but this impressed me so much! It’s fresh and smells expensive (that’s important). Doesn’t matter if you have to reapply, it’s worth it. I like it better than the similar Hermes.

I imagine a handsome ex polo player that decided to go against his old money customs and became a wealthy rancher instead.

saltywagonjuggler

My favorite daytime fragrance. Opens with sweet green tea and quickly becomes more of a musky/woodsy scent. Wish it lasted longer but until someone else makes something better, I won’t take points off. (I bought Un Jardin En Mediterranee and I really like it, but it’s not as musky or woody as this. I find EA Green Tea to be nauseating and nothing like this.) 9/10

hussrahal

The quality of this for the price is mind blowing. 10/10 scent, if you run into this don't even think twice. Buy it, and a backup.
SO GOOD.

Hassan1490

The best if this house.
Don't think! Go ahead and buy it.

Imcheap17

Clean, bright , snappy green citrus vetiver. For $25 which is what you can find the icon line at rack stores, you can't go wrong. Easily a 60-85$ quality

Kolby

Not one to find scents particularly bad often. But this does smell like pine cleaner

Echorich

Quite a beautiful scent. The sharp and slightly sour citrus mellows down after about 30 minutes and the greens settle into place, providing a clean, herbal and slightly peppery scent that sits closer to the skin. This one is okay to overspray if you can manage the burst of citrus upfront.

Kelownafornia

Green, Green and Green.

Citrus green florals evoke the feeling of being in a Japanese garden sipping on jasmine tea. Woosah and peaceful inner reflection descend upon you as this gentle fragrance quietly dances around you. Definitely a unisex scent. Although projection and longevity isn't its top accolade, this is a fragrance you'll wear for you.

ChezdeParfums

Green tea, fig, and uplifting bergamot come together to make a smile-inducing concoction. Incidentally: this is basically the exact smell used in the common areas of Aloft hotels. It’s a fun, interesting, and cheap thing (takes one to know one).

otteromkram

Attention: If you like this fragrance, Harry's (Harry's.com) has the exact same scent for it's Fig line of products.

I have zero association with that company, but love their Fig stuff. Their other stuff is so-so. (Firewood scent smells like Hermes H24, if that's your thing.)

Haya215

I blind bought it based on reviews but it's not for me. Opening was too strong but it didn't last long. Green note is clearly there but that's all. Nothing much.

CoachSignature88

Wow this frag blew me away! It has a very almost medicinal sharp masculine petitgrain type opening that really grew on me over time. Then is settles into a very unisex almost feminine leaning figgy flowery musk scent! It’s beautiful and such a pleasure to wear. Niche quality frag..

Nostalgic gent

Pretty decent, reminiscent of early 90s herbal essence shampoos. Clean, light, easy too wear

carblazehell

I am often not in to "green" smelling perfumes. At the very least, they are not typically what I would like to smell on myself. Just not the best for my body chemistry.
This one I am willing to give a chance, as their green includes fig and green tea, both of which I like. As long as the magnolia stays as light and playful as it does on the testing strip, I will be a fan. I like how happy it is.

Afc_Croatian

When I saw an 100ml bottle at an outlet mall for $32 I knew I had to try it.

I can't believe how easy-wearing, fresh and green this is (despite it being in the name, I know.)

This is a scent that brought me back to simpler times, the aromatic freshness had me reminisce of clean clothes and a clean house, something about it just brought me to a good place in my mind, and that's something we all admire, I'm sure.

78 Vintage Green will have you feeling like a clean, well-put-together individual. I can't get enough of it, the only downside is the longevity, it's what I expect from a cheap fragrance line from Banana Republic. I overspray myself with it without being headache-inducing.

8/10

Timyoungn304

Idk all the fancy stuff like “I pick up on this and that”. All I know is it’s definitely green. It lasts FOREVER and projection/sillage are very good. Granted i do go heavy on the sprays (8-10). Some people have said it’s super weak so I assume they’re going anosmic. If you find it for $19.99 like I did you need to pick it up.

perfumaphile

Green, bitter, masculin. I didn't pick up any fig, jasmine, or magnolia. It kind of smells like a men's shower gel. Heard raves about this on YouTube, so I had to smell it for myself. This isn't for me. So far, Tobacco & Tonka Bean and Dark Cherry & Amber are the best Banana Republic perfumes to my taste.

hokieguy95

Opening of slightly sour green tea and bitter citrus orange. I detect slight vetiver and bergamot. During the dry down the notes become almost niche level quality. Performance is average as this does not project well and is intimate and moderate at best. After several hours this becomes a skin scent but I could still detect slight traces on my arm the next morning. This is a very nice fragrance from Banana Republic and is easily unisex if not slightly feminine. I am reminded somewhat of the Halston 1-12 DNA in the greens and I’m not sure if BR was shooting for a more modern take on that profile. Purchased for $22 at a Burlingtons which is a great price for the quality but is expected since performance is subpar. This is a strong Like for me but not my style. The wife really likes it, so it is hers to enjoy.

Scent: 8/10
Performance: 4/10
Price: 7/10

Tacosalad

This is one of those smells I can't get enough of but doesn't suit me enough to wear. Its wonderfully blended and really unfolds in a beautiful manner. At first leaning masculine. Opens with soft mandarin and citrus but quickly get taken over by fresh super green scent of fresh cut flower stocks. The notes are very authentic and niche quality. It now starts to lean feminine. From there we go to a juicy fig, florals that are incredible with a touch of fresh tea leaves all while a vetiver cloud surrounds and dries with a light musk in the dry down. I want so bad for this to have more wood and musk to make it wearable for a middle aged male like myself. It reminds me of a make out session when I was younger and I end up with Happy for women all over me the rest of the night. It is so close to being masculine enough but never gets around the corner. It’s a wonderful blend of florals, greens and vetiver done with class and excellence. One of the more unique designer fragrances that I have smelled but can't get past the dry down that reminds me of lady’s fragrance. I am going to see if my wife will wear it so I can still smell this often.

9/10 quality fragrance just hard to pull off for a gray bearded 44 year old man

AuthenticAF

I want to like this but smells weird on me i think🤷♀️Sorta bug sprayish. Im going to keep trying.

Update! 1/8/22 Today i am layering this with hacivat, and i really like this combo. I know both lean masculine, but sometimes i like wearing more masculine fragrances and its a good change! These two fragrances have similar notes, that is why i paired them. Im not feeling particularly girly today. Im wearing jeans with black and gold pumas and a black thermal longsleeve polo shirt. I hope someone else tries it and tells me it is a good combo.

Update feb 12: i have grown to like this much more. It is so clean and refreshing. I love to wear out of the shower and to bed. Tonight im wearing it with sel azur from yves rocher and that is a salty marine scent. I like this combo for a clean girl vibe that is not soapy just fresh

lemonblue

Picked this up for 22.99$ for 75ml at Burlington's. I have a splash bottle of the Hermes Un Jardin En Mediterranee up above and it is quite similar. Perhaps a bit less vegetable and slightly sweeter, but has that almost tomato leaf like bitter herbal tinge, I think because of the fig. The bitterness actually first reminded me of another Hermes I own, Eau de Gentiane Blanche , except only a hint of that because that one is much more bitter and root like/damp.

Vintage Green is really nice and smells like a clean department store. I can't wait to wear it out. Especially when it heats up again next summer.

phatkatcollections

Instantly reminded me of yang from 1999. Checked the notes and sure enough they have orange, vetiver , musk, cedar and green tea in common.. not spot on but definitely took me back

Afc_Croatian

At my local Banana Republic outlet I found a 100ml bottle of this for only $37.

This has to be one of the easiest-wearing fragrances and I mean that as a compliment!

78 Vintage green gives you an elegant, suburb vibe. Like you're on a walk in your neighbourhood wearing good quality clothing and you want to smell like someone who's put-together without being loud and aggressive.
The bergamot and green tea gives it a lovely cozy and soft vibe while the vetiver note makes it a little more manly, however I totally see women can wear this one as well.

While it lacks longevity, it still lingers on my skin throughout the workday.
8/10 :)

IAmStaka

I absolutely love this! This is great value for your money!
It's like you put together BVLGARI Tygar, LV Afternoon Swim, Nishane Wulong Cha into 1 fragrance.

I don't get the Xerjoff Nio comparisons, as Nio is painfully green, and this is not. This is only slightly green. It's very juicy fresh. In fact, the name Vintage Green doesn't really suit this fragrance. They should've just called it Juicy Fresh! It's very uplifting!

chrisk252

Fresh, ethereal, natural, citrus, green, hints of wood and musk. Very well blended. Can't believe this is Banana Republic. I enjoy these types of light, bright, citrusy colognes and if somebody told me this was a Chanel Les Eaux, I would believe it other than stylistically it doesn't have the chanelade. It's right there in terms of quality and classy discrete elegance.

Scent: 8.5 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 6.5

drewrip22

Bought this blind after hearing several positive reviews. Leans a bit too feminine for my taste. Definitely got a bit of bug spray feeling out of it. Barely makes it into my gym bag, but worth the $22 I spent I guess.

Edit: this fragrance really grew on me and I’m starting to enjoy it.

K_Wood_22

When freshly sprayed, it smells very green and sour citrus, like lemon grass. There's the faintest musk undertone.
It doesn't smell horrible, but it doesn't smell good.
The smell reminds me of insect repellent. So much so, that I actually sprayed it on my legs to see if it would keep the mosquitos from biting my ankles. Sadly, it didn't. So I really have no use for this fragrance.
Short longevity and poor projection.
Even over-sprayed and worn in high heat, it's barely detectable as a skin scent, beyond 20-30 minutes.
Lots of hype, but it didn't deliver.

Dr Harder

This is a smell of green salad with lemon dressing. I understand appeal that it has among frag community, its interesting and unusual concept of scent and it has 0% of any kind of sweetness. For those reasons I respect it but I still cannot force myself to like it as much as it deserves. And its getting more difficult to find it for a reasonable price so......

VinceChi1178

This was a blind buy for me from a Banana Republic outlet store that was offering deep discounts on fragrances. And, boy – what a successful purchase!

78 Vintage Green has quickly become my summer signature scent. Anytime the temps start creeping into the 80s and 90s, this is what I grab. It’s a bright fragrance that really cuts through heat and humidity with its biting freshness. It’s a unique alternative to the aquatic citruses that most people reach for in the dead of summer.

As noted by many, this is a green scent that to my nose has a sharp citrus vibe. If you could eat 78 Vintage Green, it would be bitter, tart, and ultimately refreshing. The florals add a nice touch without being too loud. It’s a well-blended scent, a real winner in my book.

If you shop discounters, you may find this one hidden amongst the countless CK One flankers. Don’t pass it up.

LittleMissCactus

GORGEOUS. Somehow, despite being on the cheaper end of my collection, this fragrance has managed to worm its way up to become an instant favourite. One of the few fragrances I've gotten unprompted compliments for! It smells so lush and green, like the smell of a rainforest. The first spray is quite bitter, but that mellows out in a matter of seconds, though it sticks around. I've sprayed this into my hair in the morning and continued to catch wiffs of it well into the next day.

Funny enough, despite easily being able to get this fragrance for under 75 dollars if you catch it on sale, the most common compliment I get when wearing it is that I smell "expensive", while I never get that compliment when wearing Tom Ford! 15/10 would recommend.

Arber Cami

This is a no brainer for me. Citrusy, green, floral and woody, absolutely love it. Gorgeous for the warmer months, you can go heavy on the sprays. Inoffensive and close to the skin. Daytime summer fragrance in my opinion. Performance is ok.

lannibal2000

I put a few sprays of this on last night and my goodness it is amazing. I love the green and fruity mix and can't wait to try this in the hot weather in the next couple of days 😁

Absolute Gem. Green, fruity with a little bit of sweetness.
The scent profile has been well covered by other reviewers already, so I won't go into detail.

A lot of reviewers have mentioned the lacking performance but there is a fix:
You have to overspray this one HEAVILY.

I spray it 24 times, spraying it on 12 spots, spraying each spot twice, including my clothing. (I know it sounds crazy, but trust me, it's still weaker than for example 2 sprays of Hawas).
If you do that, it will last for 6-7 hours with moderate, soft, but noticeable projection.
Just don't leave the house for the first 15 minutes so you don't choke anyone.

I have received many compliments overspraying Vintage Green. I'm not the type of guy that oversprays fragrances, normally I spray very conservatively. To my nose a lot of fragrances smell worse if you overspray them. Not this one.

You have to trust me, just overspray and the performance won't be an issue. You will run through the bottle quickly though, but it's worth it in my opinion.

RandomPatterned

I think this is a gem. From the florals to the fruits to the woods, all of the accords are nicely balanced and blended to my nose. Refreshing with green and floral elements with a base which seems sophisticated without being overly woody or musky. The fig is also enjoyable. I find it lasts longer by adding a final spritz to clothing. I do get whiffs of citrus after the dry down. I need to revisit Un Jardin En Mediterranee to compare. I agree with @timmyvn about the nice quality of the bottle and atomizer.

timmyvn

This is my first tea fragrance, yet the only one so far.

At first spray, I was like "whaat its too GREEN for a fragrance". But I'm in love with it now!

It's not fresh like watery/citrusy fragrances. It's not clean like soapy fragrances. But it is extremely PLEASANT!

The longevity and sillage are just a meh, that's why I rarely spray it before going out, but I usually wear it at home.
After a long working day, I shower, then a spray or two on my hand/upper wrist, and I can lay back and enjoy the vibe while doing my own stuff.

As I have mentioned, this is my first tea fragrance, and it makes me want to try more other tea.

P.s. The design is super decent also. Good packaging, good bottle design (especially the duct. I can see the duct inside many expensive bottles, but for this one, the duct is just like disappeared inside the fragrance fluid, which looks good)

AndySmellsGreat

Beautiful but unchallenging. Decent sillage doesn’t last more than a few hours. I find it makes a good bedroom air freshener.

Bright green, a tea bodied out by subtle florals.

For the price it’s a bargain. If you’ve got to give this a negative your a stingy fart.

Jasa1234

I literally just took this out of a bag of fragrances that I was planning to get rid of. I was sitting here thinking of the best fragrance to pair with my Harry's stone body wash and out of nowhere it hit me POOF!!!!! Vintage Green is the exact same DNA. After sitting in that bag for about 3 to 4 months now this fragrance is exactly that body wash in a bottle. these two will work great together although this fragrance can definitely be over sprayed easily, so be careful on the amount of sprays you use lol.

Lmuradian

Opens very sharp bitter. The green part of 78 vintage green shows it’s face. One thing during the dry down it kind of reminds me afternoon swim by Louis Vuitton. Nice scent lasts maybe three hours max then it becomes a skin scent. Great gym scent.

rosetinteddream

I've had this for over a year and I absolutely love it. It's one of my favorites, despite what I see as not very good performance. It's great and lasts longer on clothes, but on my skin it fades away after a few hours. It's super refreshing and crisp, and just gives me an absolute boost.

I have two things that I am hoping others on here can help me with.

1. I am looking for another fragrance like this but made with more quality ingredients so that it lasts longer. I am willing to look into a vintage bottle of anything. Does Dior Dune Pour Homme smell like this, or is that more barbershop-ey? Please, any suggestions. I need a longer lasting green/fresh fragrance like this. I have Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea and I've worn that for years but I'm looking for something more.

2. Growing up in the late 90s to the early-mid 2000s, I've smelled a similar fragrance on guys or teens in general in the past. I don't know if it was a Hollister, or Abercrombie release. Or maybe Lucky or Gap Grass? I dunno, but I smelled something like this on my jock cousins growing up and I'm just curious if anyone else has too and what scent(s) you think it could be.

As a lover of my green fragrances, you know I had to grab a bottle of Banana Republic Vintage Green… The most highly recommended Banana Republic fragrance among the community. Also my only BR fragrance. Glad for all the recommendation.

Opens green. Very green. Shocking, I know with a name like Vintage Green. Dries to a floral musk, some vetiver, while still carrying some of the green notes throughout. Some resemblance to JV Artisan Blue, which is actually another very green fragrance (not blue like name implies).

Wears somewhat soft and professional, making it perfect for the office. It has gotten better and stronger with time as it’s matured; as I’ve now had it for almost a year. My favorite time to wear this is in the warmer Spring months; in which it has a solid place in my rotation.

TedPoulson

On my skin it’s very green and almost a bit dirty at first, but not in a bad way. I think the name “Vintage Green” really fits the opening. After a little while the florals pop out and it sweetens up. Makes me think of smelling flowers in a forest after it’s rained.
Definitely could be too feminine for some guys, but I dig it!

beautybreebee

On my skin, this smelled like straight vetiver sadly. I was so excited for this fragranced based off the notes and review. I get no fig whatsoever and the vetiver dry down is so overwhelming on me. Very masculine and not at all what i was hoping for.

sodalite

Smells like a blend of Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea and Diptyque’s Philosykos. Not as good as either, but not bad. I’d wear this in the summer.

JohnnyC

I bought this fragrance because I had mentioned to someone that I really loved the smell of Harry's Fig body wash and that I wished they would release a perfume or cologne of this scent, so he mentioned that Banana Republic 78 Vintage Green was very similar to that smell. So I hurried to buy it online. Now that I have it, I really love it. I've worn it a couple of times so far. It starts off very figgy that's for sure then as it settles down it reminds of a different cologne I used to own by Burberry, it is The beat. Overall it's a very pleasant and fresh smell, exactly what I was looking for.

Dr Harder

I gave it today another chance, I thought maybe I missed something about it..... NO, It still has that female nivea/rexona deodorant vibe. I wouldn't advise any male to wear it, moreover I dont think I would have liked it on my girlfriend either. One of the those rare ocasions where I regret listening to frag com and blind buying it. One of the few fragrances that I dislike profoundly

Live Fragrance Reviews

I love this stuff! It smells like pacific rock moss... yeah.

richiecedeno5

Hey willing to let go of this fragrance, trade or buy???

gaberuski

Starwalker meets JV Artisan Pure

Yep!

yesterday_borscht

i love Icon collection a lot. And I already have half of it. All the bottles i got from the rack stores. I think the composition of this collection is wonderful yet performance is below 0 so i usually wear collection only at home so i can renew the scent on me every 2 hours. Vintage green is just one of my favorites, it brings such an incredible, refreshing mood to me. It's green in a sweet way, so crispy and round. Perfect for using as a cologne in the morning, it can help to open the eyes. The luxurious feeling of freshness

Denimtuxedo

This thing is stuck in neutral every time I wear it. The note break down above is BS. It smells like wet grass from start to finish. Not bad, not great. Kind of like cutting grass, you hate doing it, but it's sometimes satisfying.

katariina9

78 is of great quality, equally pleasing for men and women. Addictive- it feels like a refreshing walk on the mediaterranean coast on a hot day, so beautifully cooling, aromatic and complete.

I went through my small 15 ml bottle in 2 weeks which is telling. It suits hot sunny days, and I kept spraying it in every few hours as its not exactly long-lasting. But it projects very clean and crisp with just a right amount of pure light jasmine, and cuts through humid hot air really well.

I was curious to compare it side-to-side with Hermes Un Jardin en Mediterranee, as they give out very similar vibes when worn separately. Still, a few distinct differences:

78 is lighter and not as long-lasting.
78 is cooler, crisper, dryer, less aquatic.
78 is very clearly focused on fig leaf, perhaps also green unripe fig fruit, very streamlined and with a touch of very pretty jasmine and a tea note, whilst UJeM is juicier and has very attractive cypress note that is not present in 78.
Whilst UJeM starts off with strong mandarine note, 78 has it lighter and not as sweet.

Since overall vibe is quite similar, I don't need both and will stick to Hermes Jardin line.
But 78 is wonderful and totally unisex summer scent, very classy. Difficult not to love.

what is this I don't even

This is ok.... I can see why people like it. To me, though, it comes across as an attempt to replicate the spectacular Bvlgari Mon Jasmin Noir L'Eau Exquise but using plastic-y ingredients.

CreepyKid

Lemon lime citrus dominant fresh airy green fragrance. Hints of vetiver and green tea in the initial spray that fades to a lemony Summer night type of green. Those cool Summer nights when you can smell the plants giving off a crisp pungent green chlorophyll musk after being exposed to the brutal sun all day. That's the green in Vintage Green, not the Quorum or Polo kind of green you may have smelled before. There's a slight bodywash note that comes and goes which I'd imagine stems from the mixed citrus accords and gives this a youthful or unisex freshness compared to other green fragrances. My only issue is the longevity is pretty bad in the heat, but that tends to be the case with almost all but the strongest of fragrances. Pity too because this is a perfect warm weather scent. On the flipside it's fitting enough for year round wear and probably does better in the cold as far as performance is concerned. I also own Oud Mosiac and that has the same issue somedays it lasts forever others it's gone before you can enjoy it.

Dr Harder

I am in minority of people who are not that impressed with Vintage green. Its smells nice, well rounded, clean, green and refreshing but its just not my cup of tea. It reminds me of something that my female cousins would wear in summer months, its has that female deodorant vibe. I dont dislike it but I much prefer something more edgy, masculine, zesty, something with more testosterone in it. Again i dont hate it but I dont see myself wearing it more than 3-4 times per year and only when I am bored with everything else.

Guccipordior

Not much needs to be said about this one, but it is definitely worth the hype. Linen Vetiver smells similar without the fig note and some minor variations, enough to make it a different fragrance. If you do not like fig, try that one from the line. Although, I don't really like fig, but it's blended so well in here. A nice, watery, green, sweet (not in a fruity way), clean, and pleasing scent. Not boring either, it's really really enjoyable. Extremely hard to dislike.

ManicMonkey84

I'd call this the Dua Lipa of fragrances: Instantly likeable and suitable for almost anybody. Ripe, succulent, and pleasingly natural green accords are very much the star here--it takes a bit more discernment to pick up on the bergamot and fig notes. Some whiffs remind me of a high-end bath product, but the earthy tea note gives it just enough complexity and sharpness to stand as a proper fragrance. Echoing other comments, the sillage is moderate at best and it stays on the skin for no more than a couple of hours. But given the price point, there's no guilt in adding that extra spritz (or two) to pump up the volume. This is basically the perfect dumb-reach for summer if you're looking for something with with a fresh, botanical character that won't get lost in the sea of mass-appealing aquatics.

skaccomatto

Green freshness in a bottle! 78 Vintage Green, which sounds like the name Tolkien would have given to a particularly good pipe-weed in the Lord of the Rings, opens with a very uplifting, fresh and green spicy bergamot - I smell vetiver straight away, slightly bitter and slightly peppery.

I get some lemon iced tea vibes as the scent progresses; the tea note is light and airy, and maintains the freshness of the opening - actually I find quite amazing how long the bergamot remains detectable throughout the mid and almost into the base notes. I honestly don't get any fruity/creamy fig note but I'm not familiar with the smell of crushed fig leaves, so that might be what it gives the distinct greenness. The floral side, which is clearly there, just add a touch of sweetness that counterbalances the tartness of the bergamot and the bitterness of the vetiver+tea combo.

I only get some clean linen type of musk in the very long run, when the uplifting qualities of the fragrance are no longer there, but at that point the scent has already faded from my skin; other than that, this scent is very linear, which is a plus given how good it smells. It projects quite well for 3/4 hours, and last a few more hours before disappearing. If sprayed on clothes, the green side of the scent will stay on for hours more. A total mood enhancer.

78 Vintage Green is an excellent freshie for tropical and sub-tropical weather, where the humidity will keep the skin moist and help projects that delicate, refreshing and soothing tea/bergamot note; I'm not sure it would have the same effect in very dry, hot desert climate. Office safe, incredibly well suited for a walk in hot humid weather, and a steal at discounters' rate. Instant love. My bottle batch is 19171RB, from 2019.

bethjwb

This is strikingly similar to Hermès’ Un Jardin En Méditerranée, which is great because I LOVE that scent. Tomato leaf isn’t listed as a note here but I definitely get it as part of that ‘green leaves’ accord. Fresh, green, sunny, without being overly sweet or floral - just beautifully balanced. Longevity isn’t as good as Hermès, but the price is so much less.

CristoCologne

This is a fresh, vegetal, herbal clean smelling scent. I get fresh cut woods, some grass perhaps, and herbs. Imagine a bunch of fresh herbs - rosemary, sage, thyme, oregano, basil, etc.. all together over fresh fruit, in a new wooden serving bowl.. you get the idea.

To me this smells similar to (but not alike) to several other scents I own. Tommy Bahama St. Kitts; Art of Shaving Vetiver Citron; Lalique Encre Noir. These are all in the same ballpark.

I got it for 19.99 at Burlington, worth it, but the performance is just OK..

redhawkmillenium

This is the all star of Banana Republic's "Icon" collection. Fragrance reviewers who have tried the collection often list this as one of the best in the line, and for good reason. It is just such a fresh, uplifting, clean fragrance with juicy and fruity nuances. I absolutely love the scent, I love the opening when I first spray it on, I love catching whiffs of it as it dries down. And despite being identified with the oldest year of all the Icon fragrances, to me it doesn't smell old at all (if anything, the one with the newest year, 17 Oud Mosaic, smells the oldest). It smells modern and fresh but does so without resorting to being an aquatic "blue" fragrance. It also smells really natural to me, not artificial or chemical in any way. Out of the Banana Republic fragrances I have, it's at least in the top 3, the other two being 17 Oud Mosaic and Tobacco & Tonka Bean.

For me this is going to be a spring an summertime essential, very worthy of being a signature scent. The one caveat is that its performance isn't the greatest. I wouldn't say it has poor performance, but moderate at best. If you spray at the start of your day it will probably have faded by mid day.

Edit: This is the kind of scent that comes alive if you're being active, raising your body temperature, working up a sweat. I have a very physical job that involves moving heavy objects, and this is uplifting and energizing and, I think, appealing to people around me. I can apply this at the start of my day and it's going strong well into the day as long as I'm being active.

Like all the Banana Republic frags, it's a good value at its regular price, but an absolute steal if you can find it at half price at rack stores. Now I will say this was a bit harder for me to find at rack stores, a bit rarer. I would find Neroli Woods, Linen Vetiver, or 17 Oud Mosaic all the time, but it took several months before I found one of these on the shelf. Still, I did find it there, so I would encourage keeping an eye out for it. One thing to note, do NOT buy this or any other Banana Republic frag from the website So Avant-garde. They often promote these frags with YT reviewers, but they jack the price up on their website to twice the regular retail price! At that price it ceases to be a good value and your money is better spent on nicer frags. If you can't find it at rack stores, order it from online discounters, or just go to an actual Banana Republic outlet store and pick it up there ( my local BR did have Vintage Green in stock, albeit in a different, cheaper bottle than you would find at rack stores). It's worth buying it that way, for sure, just don't waste your money paying double for it.

z0mb

Lovely combo of bergamot, fig, and green tea. Perfect balance and great in warm weather. However, disappears nearly instantly for me, even with several sprays.
If you see it at a discounters for a great price, pick it up, but don’t rely on it for an all-day experience.

ejsmd11.1

This is a top 5 stunner for me. Jesus Christ if heaven had a smell, this would be it. I'm a big freshie fan, so this falls right in line. Perfect mix of astringent greenness, tea, fig, and bergamot. Absolutely incredible. Only downside it is weak on projection and longevity. Still an incredible scent especially for the price.

Sponspon

Wow, I really like this one. For the first 10 minutes i get fresh almost bitter green notes/ green tea and then it settles into wonderful fig fragrance. Def unisex, fresh, clean, uplifting scent, but it has sadly poor silage and weak longevity. I will reapply every hour if I must :D adore this.
Edit: the longevity is after all moderate

jarno1208

I really like this. Very fresh and uplifting scent. Unisex for sure. Great for warmer weather. I get a ton of citrus and green notes as well as fig, but not overly fig. The tea note is there. Well done fragrance. Quality for the price is superb.

theymightbejenny

Oof, the hype is real.

This is a fresh, green tea and fig fragrance. The reason it's so dang good is because it maintains the perfect balance between fruity sweetness, green bitterness, and citrusy tartness. Nyteshade mentioned that the tea note is more of a still-on-the-plant leafy note rather than a brewed tea note, and I agree. There are some florals here too, but they're in the background, faint. In comparison to a couple other popular juicy green frags, Versace Versense is more fruity-sweet and less bitter, and Eliz Arden Green Tea is way less sweet and way more sour. The performance is just right for me; I tend to get nauseated by scents that last strongly for more than 4 hours. It's definitely a warm/hot weather scent, though.

(Not to pigeonhole myself here, but) If you're a tomboy who is struggling to find fragrances which truly strike that perfect femme/masc balance, this is one to try. Thank god it's cheap, cause I'm gonna rock this all summer.

National Sniffalist

Honestly was hoping for more. After much hype, I discovered a green medicine cabinet-like fragrance. I don't hate every aspect of the fragrance. For the price, I'm still happy to have it in the collection. However, it just isn't for me.

Rafrosa

I am relatively new to the frag world and this scent is an entirely new experience for me. It’s absolutely beautiful, calming and exotic to my nose. Anytime I spray it, I feel like I stumbled upon a secret room hidden beneath a bustling old Middle Eastern city. The room is filled with ancient books being read by exotic looking wizards and learned men. This is the smell of the incense burning in that room. Lol, this of course is my opinion. The fig accents the strong vetiver and bergamot so whimsically...such a great fragrance, so happy I made this purchase! *Please know that as pleasing as this fragrance is, I don’t see it as a big compliment getter. IMO this is a niche fragrance, worn for your own enjoyment.

Jabouba

It’s a beautiful green one great for spring and summer

Serpentarius

Wow! This is very impressive juice. The notes are 'hyper realistic', reminds me of Incense Kyoto in that way. Doesn't smell artificial at all. The big knock on this one is performance but I guess I'm lucky, getting 3-4 hours. That's fine with me, especially as this is definitely for warmer weather.

Its unisex for sure...maybe the drydown leans a tad feminine. If you like super masculine fragrances, you may want to skip this one. Could be the jasmine or magnolia. But this is fresh, vibrant, and addictive. I would definitely ask someone what they were wearing if I picked it up.

I can see this being a great option for a warm day spent outside, where you don't want to offend anyone. Even if someone is very sensitive to fragrances, I highly doubt this would be an issue.

At the price, you can definitely blind buy. Its a love for me!

nyteshade

I really enjoy this one.

This is a green floral that's fresh and sweet. I don't get anything artificial or screechy. The initial blast is a vibrant, happy green tea note mixed with bergamot. To be clear, I don't mean brewed green tea, I'm talking fragrant green tea leaves still on the plant. The magnolia shines in the middle of the dry down and gives just the right amount of white floral, without becoming a white floral dominant frag. The base is a juicy green fig fruity note. However, this scent isn't sickening sweet, more like classy sweet... picture ice cold honeydew melon slices in a crystal bowl on a silver platter (even though honeydew isn't listed). Simple and elegant.

I'm calling it now, Gino Percontino is on his way to the top. I was introduced via the Wild Spirit collection, and loving his style in perfumery!

jjames799

Very unique scent this one on me. In the air it really smells like Creamola Foam which I haven't smelt since I was a kid - approx 20 years ago. Closer up and on the skin you get the greener side of the fragrance but it's pretty hard to detect after 20 minutes so you are just left with a creamy sweet fragrance.

Nice unique scent but as with all Banana Republic fragrances I have bought they are all a bit too fleeting to really enjoy them or feel like you are going to get anywhere near to a days wear in them. I reckon if they could boost the performance up they would do really well but it can't be a coincidence that they are all so weak so that must be their strategy.

8/10 for the fragrance itself.
4/10 for performance.

Bfish88

I was able to scoop up this gem for 10 bucks at Burlington, clearance sale. Man this is pretty good stuff here! It does remind me of Mugler Cologne and has about the same perfomance which is slightly below average. But, it's blended very well and since I like to wear at least 2 fragrances per day in the spring and summer, the performance is ok with me. A nice green scent with a touch of florals, making it a wonderful fresh out the shower scent. I will be giving this some time come March and April.

The Wolf

This should be called GREEN! 78.
Very, very green fragrance.
This reminds me of playing in the green fields, trees and bushes as a boy.
Coming home covered in the smells of all sorts of green plant materials mashed into my clothes and skin.

Bottle of nostalgia 🌿👍

ath.f.2020

Apparently I do not like perfumes that do not create any emotion. And this is one of those perfumes. It smells just greenery, like cypress, and bergamot. Obviously various others that I can not single out. I bought it without trying it and because it would look like the scent of hermes. I do not know, such a perfume may have been good in the 1930s, but it does not impress me. And I think I will not buy a unisex perfume again.

Aoh

Blind bought it online based on internet reviews. Nice and smooth but nothing special, so I was a tad disappointed. Could come across as a classic fresh cologne with a strong fig note. Fig might not be everyone's cup of tea, so would suggest getting a 5ml or 15ml bottle to test it first. Tried to layer it with something more citrusy (e.g. Zara's Vetiver Pamplemousse) and this really brought Vintage Green to life, lifting the latter's otherwise flat smelling combination of fig and green tea. Think this might be a nice base to layer with other sharper notes for spring / summer.

Sullii

This scent is something else, a very relaxing easy to wear scent.

was only 19$ at BR, can't go wrong.

StinkyTinky

.......it’s light. I just sprayed my arm to compile my thoughts for this review and it’s already almost gone. I smell a hint of fresh green..and mint.
I do wear very strong perfumes pretty regularly...so maybe I’ll catch the nuances during my next molecule Monday rotation

Mona708

Overall, I think this is a nice, casual scent. It reminds me a bit of Indigo by Nest, but with much less fig and without the brief wet dirt accord. I got about 7 hours of wear from it, which is a plus in my book. This is a good choice for someone who’s trying out fragrances with musks for the first time, since there’s not very much in here.

MrHonest

Such a relaxing fragrance in the mid and drydown, but terribly named! Absolutely nothing green or vintage about it. It should've been called 97 Sweet Fig Tea.

Starts off with a blast of gritty, aromatic and superbly non-distinct bergamot, but almost immediately starts to veer into the floral direction. Within a couple of minutes, it becomes almost syrupy sweet on me - something I wasn't expecting - and gains that tea-ish quality. Not the kind of bitter, leafy tea you might find in Bvlgari's Homme, but like the steam coming from a warm cup of Earl Grey. The sweetness then subsides, and the white florals come out to play, completing the effect of a warm, sweet, soapy, white floral figgy tea. Hermes UJEM vibes FOR SURE. No question. Maybe a bit of Ferragamo's Acqua Essenziale Colonia?

But what surprised me most of all was the performance. After hearing and reading how this stuff apparently doesn't last, I keep getting 7+ hours, with an easy 2-3 hours of projection. And that's in the autumn! If you hit the gym with it like I did on a number of occasions, it pumps like crazy with the extra heat and humidity. Very impressed with both the performance and blend of notes. Maybe it's my 75mL bottle, I don't know.

I should add, if you were like me years ago, thinking that this would be akin to a citrus heavy vetiver and musk, you'll be sorely disappointed. If you expect the kind of old-school piney greenness in something like Polo which was released in '78, you'll be MEGA disappointed. This is anything but. Think sweet, floral soap in the white, glass-adorned bathroom of a prima donna. Or having overly-saccharined fig tea with grandma Jasmine. Sounds fem, but as a dude, I still love to wear it. Easy recommendation for anyone looking for a sweet, versatile fig scent - especially for the price. People throw around words like "niche quality", but you can tell this is upper-designer territory. And maybe it's just me, but it somehow reminds me of the winter holidays. Anyone else? Well executed by Gino Percontino! A winner from BR.

Scent - 8.5/10
Longevity - 7.5/10
Projection - 7.5/10
Overall - 8/10 Get that fig, son.

Update: After about a dozen wears, I finally decided to dig my nose into the opening and found the sharp greenness behind the bergamot, reminding me of a lime rind. But you literally have to have your nose touching your skin to percieve it. It's definitely not in the sillage and only lasts for about 10 minutes. A faint whisper of JV's Artisan Pure!

SpectralScents

25 y.o. male. Love the scent! Slightly soapy and feminine possibly. However, it literally brought on a migraine from hell!!!!

BlindBG11

Green and slightly sweet with the fig and after awhile you can smell the tea note combined with the already faint at this point fig note which is really unique and interesting. Can be worn by both men and women. It's a niche quality fragrance for nearly no money - I managed to grab a 75ml tester for 14 euro. Can't hate this fragrance although I wish it lasted a tiny bit longer.

The Nose that Knows

An absolutely incredible fragrances.
Its a must have if you collect fragrances.
Smells amazing.
You well not be disappointed.

NCscent

The reviewers below have pretty much nailed the notes in this. Just as an additional observation: if you like Harry’s Fig Body wash (and I do) you will love this fragrance as the notes are nearly identical. I imagine that the two would be a great layering combo.

pktsqr

This is how I got into perfumery:

As someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s, perfumes were something that people sort of bludgeoned each other with. You'd spray yourself silly with your giant can of knock-off Polo or whatever and head off to school where everyone else had done something similar. Then shortly afterward, Axe became a thing. So by adulthood, and as a long-time culinary worker, I'd largely accepted that Serious People didn't complicate their environments with aggressive scents.

Not much happened to change this for many years. Yeah, sure, I used a sensible body wash. And my MIL bought me a bottle of Patrick on a whim, which I used to go to the opera and such (but didn't respond strongly to, either way). I was content if my deodorant didn't clash overmuch with my pomade, really.

Then one day I was in a Banana Republic store and saw they had a little shelf of - very inexpensive! - unisex perfumes. Intrigued by the name, I sampled the bottle of Vintage Green... And loved it! The lightness of the citrus and the pear-like fruitiness of the fig, and that fresh, clean GREEN. It was delightful to have lingering around me, but more importantly I realized that I wasn't worried for a second that it might choke out a bystander. It was entirely possible to wear scents in a way that other people wouldn't mind, and might actively *like*!

(I immediately pivoted to trying out birch-y, smokey niche offerings and things that smelled like garages or oil rigs, so... *That* philosophy certainly didn't continue to dominate.)

Thanks Vintage Green for giving me such a pleasant reintroduction to the world of scents!

Scentless

Love, just blind buy it. Beautiful

Fragmeister

Standing in a field of fresh cut grass where citrus are growing out of the ground and whiffs of their zest flow through the air. This is a must buy for the price.

san123

I have to echo Ricks’ review below, as I share exactly the same feelings about Vintage Green. Yes it is well blended and an overall nice scent, but it does not last AT ALL, and, believe me, I have tried it all. I have tried underspraying, overspraying, applying it a bit more further away from the nose, and applying it on clothes. Nothing works. I am now resigned to the fact that Vintage Green has very low projection and longevity (it lasts 2 hours tops), and I apply it freely (I don’t care about it anymore, even though it is a nice scent). I will probably go through my 75ml bottle this summer.

Rickc

This is a soft scent, but to me, it is too soft. On my lotioned-up skin, it lasts about 4 hrs. The opening has a good bit of citrus, some green notes, and a lot of vetiver, that hangs on through the end of the fragrance. I do not get the fig, and just get a faint smell of the mandarin and tea. The initial opening last about 10 minutes before giving way to the vetiver. By this time the projection has suffered greatly, and within another hour and a half, it's a skin scent on me. It is blended well, and overall, a very nice scent. You will need to re-apply often to keep the scent for the day. I don't mind the lack of projection, but wish it had a bit more longevity.
In my opinion, for men, just buy Encre Noir Sport and you will get a somewhat similar but upscale fragrance with much better longevity for the same price.

Vintage Green smells amazing, it's like a mixture of Abel White Vetiver and Artisan Pure. It's very fresh, green, crisp, and zingy. It's an invigorating scent that's great for spring and summer. Unfortunately my batch from June 2019 only projects for 30 minutes and is gone after 2 hrs. After about an hour it becomes a musky skin scent. I've tried it on clothes and skin and the results are the same.

Tiger Storm

To my nose, Banana Republic 78 Vintage Green starts almost the exact same as the Zara Vibrant Leather Summer, with ZVLS being slightly more piercing/sharper, slightly more soapy, and projects slightly better. Had I not just received these two fragrances today, completely blind buys, one on right wrist, one on the left one, I would never realize this. Both are great values🥰. After 20 min though, BRVG78 becomes much softer, yet more refined, and natural, whereas the ZVLS stays pretty much the same. Not sure if on a hot day the ZVLS might become ever so slightly more amplified and synthetic, have to test and find out. I prefer the more nuanced BRVG78.

Bullrider23

Out of all the hyped inexpensive fragrances out in the market, this is the one that should be talked about all the time, clean, grassy, fizzy, figgy, I can't think of any more words, just go get yourself a bottle for this summer.

This is a really great Spring / Summer daytime fragrance. It definitely reminds me of some Hermes fragrances, including Un Jardin En Meditarranee.
Dominant notes for me are Bergamot, Mandarin and a nice Vetiver that is not too sharp or overpowering. Smells fresh and clean, very easy to wear. Fantastic value for what smells like a quality designer fragrance.

EliBrownstone

The first 10 minutes it really reminds me of the citrussy spray and candles my mom used to get rid of mosquitos in summer. It's a little off putting but when that slowly disappears you're left with a very smooth fresh and sweet smell totally worth the slightly weird opening for me. The smell is really inoffensive and perfect for spring and summer.
Though it doesn't last THAT long, the quality is actually really good for such a cheap fragrance.

Jod124

This and Linen vetiver are ones from the line I highly recommend anyone to try or blind buy. Best 2 in the line in my opinion.

I love this one from the line. At the open is a blast of a mandarin and bergamot combo that’s pretty photorealistic for something this cheap. The green/wet notes come into play next and the citrus lingers. The citrus lasts throughout the whole life of the fragrance. The drydown for me is some fig and alittle bit of vetiver. It develops a little bit into something tart spicy smelling. But the citruses are still there from the opening. After that everything dies down. I don’t really get much of the drydown notes, it feels like they were used as a backbone for this and to blend with the other notes.

It’s a citrus green combo that I think is wearable even in cooler weather. This is something I wore on warmer winter days or last summer when it wasn’t super sunny and it was more gloomy/humid outside, I think the green notes in this make it easier to wear on days you don’t typically wear a citrus heavy fragrance. But this is definitely made for the day. Solid buy and I can’t recommend it enough

I just got this found at Burlington and I hadn't worn it yet except in the house but I love it and knew it would be one of my spring scents possibly summer too. Then yesterday I went in bath & body works because I had a coupon for a free item so I wanted to try a lotion in a specific scent but they didn't have the scent I wanted in the size that would be free so instead I got the free lotion in the cactus Blossom scent. I just thought it's a mini size and I'll use it at work in my office. So today I was like let me try this lotion I got and it smelled really pretty and smelled like something in the Vintage Green scent. So I just put them on together and it's like a match made in heaven. I felt the Vintage Green was not leaning to the feminine side but I loved it so much so I was still going to rock it. However with this Cactus Blossom lotion oh it's soooo good. I'm going to go and exchange this other full sized b&bw lotion I got last night for the cactus blossom one.

I will update once I wear the combo in spring and summer. I'm so happy and excited to try these out together and so glad I took a chance on Vintage Green as a blind buy. It's a good one.

Napasonoma

This has a really nice opening very real citrus does not come across synthetic, it is one of the few I really love the opening. Mids are totally different, the fig and tea start to shine. This hangs around for 20+ minutes and then the dry down, it sweetens up with the woods and musk, but for me the tea And fig hangs in there. Anyway a really different scent that is unique and will allow you to stand out from others. It probably Is more for the warmer weather, but if you are in colder areas this will work fine inside. By the way it is one of my wife’s favs.

Alces Alces

I got this based on comparisons with Origins Spring Fever. It's not much like Spring Fever. At first the dissimilarity put me off, and I was 😞...but I kept trying it again, and soon I grew to love this for what it is, fresh, green, and clean. Not too strong. Elegant in a vintage way, the "78" does fit this scent. Unisex. Better for mornings and warm days. A grassy citrus scent.

The Colognnoisseur

I get a similarity to the discontinued L’Occitane Cedre & Oranger which I love.

A LOVE

Out of several hundred perfumes I have tested this one comes out almost on top, I treasure it as I treasure Green Irish Tweet.

Green tea, citruses, fig and underlying musk, I love it. VG is not loud and not heavy, it's for you and that someone close to you. Highly, highly recommended.

9.75/10

Casamir

I love this. Starts with green tea and other astringent green notes, along with a bit of a magnolia-floralness. Slowly dries down to woody with a green orange underlying note.
To simplify, the opening reminds me a lot of Zoologist Elephant, and dries down to become very similar to L'Occitane's Cedre & Oranger.

Karl Lagerfeld Bois de vetiver + Mercedes Benz Cologne = 78 Vintage green.
Good in terms of smell but has poor longevity and sillage.
On a scale from 1 to 10 i'll give a 6

Kenudigme

So Perfect for summer.... so refreshing but with character. I get tea leaves with citrus and fig. The BR store I visited only had 15 ml bottles and I happily bought two bottles - this and Oud Mosaic.

Edit: okay so after a few days of wearing I have more thoughts about Vintage Green. It’s quite strong and the longevity is good. Unfortunately I’m realizing this fragrance doesn’t fit my style so well. Its very pretty and bright almost like a Barbie in denim jeans. My sister is appreciating this a bit more than I am.

MNadz

Fantastic value spring/summer fresh citrus fragrance. Opens with beautiful blend of citrus and green notes. I was caught off guard with how I really liked this.

Dry down was equally great. I am unfamiliar with both fig and green tea notes...but if this is a great representation of the combo, I need to search for more. This is a very unique DNA that I could not stop smelling and trying to figure out. One of my favorite notes (vetiver) showed up to round out the fragrance.

This and Oud Mosaic are my favorite from this Iconic line. This is an unbelievable DNA for the price. A few more wearing might launch this from like to love.

Longevity for me was pretty good...7/8 hour mark. Projection was OK. Pushed for first hour before settling in to nice bubble.

Well done Banana Republic!

MacGuffin

"Woodsy" scent with leafy undertones? Naaah. It should be "citrusy" scent with leafy undertones. But right balance of citrus (not too bitter, not too sweet) and just the right level of green. Great opening scent and good drydown also but may become sour and metallic if you're in a very hot and humid area (aka desert) and sweating is part of your job (athlete, engineer, etc.). So this is better suited for tropical, and cold climates and office jobs with a/c. Price is medium range.

I really dig this scent. Im in a wrong climate though. Overall rating is 8/10.

raiza1990

Very pleasant fragrance. Well balanced, just the right amount of freshness and spice. It reminds me of my home town Rio de Janeiro. It smells green and urban at the same time. Highly reccommendable to both men and women.
If you’re looking for an uplifting summer scent with personality, try Vintage Green.
Final note: 10/10

viridian

This is very similar to Origins Spring Fever which is discontinued or if you're lucky, shows up once in a while at Christmas time. So if you're looking to fill that gap give it a try and see what you think!

Review - Banana Republic 78 Vintage Green

What does it smell like? A blooming bright day of early summers.

Why should you buy it? It's a modern day freshie. If you're tired of your Versace Pour Homme's and Dior Homme Cologne's as your summer freshies then this is a modern and unique juice to consider.

TOP - Its one of the juiciest top note in a perfume that I've ever smellest. Bergamot and Orange. It's so refreshing and juicy that makes me thirsty. Another thing here is the quality and authenticity of the notes which are as natural as they get.

Mid - The top fades quickly. Lasts maximum of 3 minutes at best and then the most prized note of this perfume,Fig comes to play alongside Cedar backed by slight bit of Vetiver, just a touch of it which provides depth.

Mid is green, thanks to the beautiful fig note and Tea and it's refreshingly woody.

Drydown - Most of the perfumes tell their tale in the heart of the perfumes. Whatever speciality they're packing. This one however creates it's magic at the end.

It gets muskier. The jasmine kicks in ever so slightly giving it a little bit of powderyness. Fig by now is sweet and tea maintains the freshness of the composition.

It's at this stage that this perfume gets different from your everyday freshie. It gets more sophisticated and more classy making it appropriate for night time wear as well as daytime wear,if you choose to do that.

PERFORMANCE - 5-6 Hours on skin (Comes and goes. You think it's gone but after a few moments you move and a wave of sophisticates freshness hits your nose.

Good projection for first hour or so. Projects quite well when the body heats up a little. I've received wafts of this after 7-8 hours of applying at times.

USAGE - Totally Unisex. The classiness of the drydown makes it possible to wear this it during summer as well as spring, both days and nights, unlike other freshies which you can pull off only during daytime.

This scent is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l!! Unfortunately it has weak performance, but despite that it's a no-brainer for its low price.

Excellent clean, fresh, green, citrussy fragrances I have; together with Mugler Cologne, which has a similar vibe.
It lasts a fair amount of time and performs well in warm/hot weather.
Excellent value for money.

This one smells great. Like a cup of green tea with the lemon. I really like it. Really easy to wear.

Muchacho

It's fresh, invigorating, and will simply put the wearer in a good mood. The tea note in this scent is a great compliment to the fig and citrus making the end result nice and balanced. This scent shines on those warmer days but I think it can be worn year round.

sara.sana

I bought it online based on the notes and it was delivered to my work and when I first sprayed it on my arm I thought it smelled just fine, one more citrusy perfume but as it cooled down it started developing and becoming more and more interesting.. sometimes it even smelled like English Oak & Hazelnut by Jo Malone.

now when I went back and compared it to Jo Malone's it doesn't exactly smell as refined or high end but they do share a similar lets just call it "spirit" and even though Jo Malone is by far more superior when it comes to how good it smells when I had each of them sprayed on a different arm Vintage Green was the dominate smell at first for the first 45 mins almost, but it did vanish hours ahead while English oak lingered.. but its not that surprising considering the price tag difference ( $43 vs $136)

Like they belong to the same family and share the bone structure but English Oak & Hazelnut is the older sibling who wears expensive suits and reads poetry and have his life all figured out while Vintage Green is the college student in ripped jeans and basic v-neck tees who is always babbling on about something, haha!

Got 2-3 hours out of it indoors with air conditioning on.. the whole thing works! the price and the smell and the longevity, all together it's a really good deal

Caungardh

Opens up with very natural juicy citruses.
After 5 minutes it is a pleasant green fresh scent.
Drys down to a slightly sweet fig on clean flowery background.

Scent you can reapply throughout the day to refresh yourself.

P. S.
Don’t search for green fig leaves scent, the fig here is the sweet fruit in the drydown.

albkelly99

atlantis is spot on, there is almost no fig present how on earth its voted as the most prominent note is mind boggling!

that out of the way, what an incredible fragrance. juicy bergamot citrus is the star of the show here, almost opens up like zegna aqua bergamotto. goes soapy and musky on the dry down. an uplifting green scent if ever there was one. lovely stuff from BR!

Atlantiswasreal

I've had this for over a year now and I've worn it enough times to develop a good opinion on it. I know fig fruit is voted as the #1 note on this, but I get almost no fig fruit from this at all. I actually don't get much of the green tea note either. Fig is my fav note and I own several fig-based fragrances including Hermes Un Jardin En Mediterranean. This stuff smells nothing like it. There might be some green fig leaf buried somewhere in the background that blends in with whatever green notes were used. It is very subtle. The name Vintage Green is appropriate as I get prominent green notes mixed with a sour orange/bergamot vibe (not very sweet at all). It is very pleasant. If they took out all the pepper and "dirty" quality that TdH has and used a cleaner, lighter vetiver, this is probably what it might smell like.

Longevity is ok on this one considering that it is a very light fragrance. I get maybe somewhere in the 3-4 hour range. However, this stuff has 0 projection. Feel free to go heavy on the trigger.

Banana Republic and their Outlet has regular 50% off sales and you can grab this for $24 USD for a 75ml bottle. You may also be able to find this at Ross for around the same price.

Drbeastmaster

iv read a few reviews saying they only get 1-2 hours, i get a little better, prob 4 hours on my skin and 4-6 on clothes. Iv certainly had alot worse . As for the scent it starts of with a crazy sharp green note for me , thankfully it only last about 5 minutes and it mellows into a beautiful green fig frag. i really enjoy it alot and as a alternative to GIT/egra/tres nuit i personally liek it better .

Michelle12345678

Poor longevity - Maybe 2 hours. Poor projection.

That being said, it's a nice green, fig scent. Aspirations of Indigo by Nest. Indigo is lightyears ahead of this. But it's cheaper than Indigo.

I think the candle of this scent is nicer than the fragrance spray.

rp64

This is a great fragrance. Not really floral green. I get a little bit of Dylan Blue with the fig and musk, just a little. It's sweet, but not overly so...well worth the money. Looking forward to trying the other BR Icon scents.

mtv2getofftheair

This is a fantastic fragrance. I have 27 bottles in my collection, so im not super experienced. But this is the first bottle that i bought a double of. I found the big bottle at ross for $24. It only projects for an hour and lasts about 2 hours on my skin. Which is slightly a bummer. But i enjoy the scent so much that i just bought an extra atomizer specifically for 78 green.

picknenders

I think this is a top notch scent - stack it against anything and it will still be a worthy rival. It’s sweet and uplifting - I don’t necessarily think it’s a “green” scent - in the sense of dense foliage and vegetation - but who cares. It smells fantastic.

7/10

richmilton

Hyped to the max. Before the hype train this fragrance went for under $35. Now it's going for $250 on eBay. Over price and over hyped.

landshark321

Of the 5 releases in the Banana Republic Icon collection in 2017, Vintage Green was the only bottle I felt inclined to purchase, despite the collection in general being quite pleasant and a good value.

Its name is a bit misleading, "green" being included and the year (to which it is an homage) being 1978. It's not a powerhouse scent of yore, but rather, an invigorating, agreeable, and effectively-priced freshie. Mainly a mix of bergamot, musk, vetiver, cedar, and fig, Vintage Green hints a lot of the right spots, with a mix of citrus, florals, woods, and even a hint of sweetness from the fig that foster a balanced offering that's really a great match for daytime warm weather.

Despite an EDP concentration, Vintage Green does not boast projection or longevity that's beyond what I would expect for its price point ($48 for 75ml retail, sometimes reduced 40-50%). It's still a great deal for a fragrance that can be had for under $30 but it'd not one I would wear with the expectation it'll be more than a skin scent for more than 6 hours or will outlast extreme heat. Still, it's a nice option that I welcome in my collection, and it reminds me that I need to retry the other original other four, and I believe there's a new entry to the line, as well.

Overall, a highly-recommended try.

This is a wonderful fresh green fragrance similar to Creed's Original Vetiver or Mugler Cologne but with added notes of green tea and fig, and with the scent of leaves instead of grass. In fact I also smell something reminiscent of neroli in the opening as well as the late drydown as in the other two fragrances; this is probably a combination of the mandarin orange and jasmine. Mostly however it basically smells of green leaves. It is a beautifully calming green fragrance altogether, and the opening has a very pleasant green bergamot accord as well. On the drydown I get more of the fig note, so it becomes sweeter overall, but the green leaves accord is still dominant. The fig note in this is not as dominant as in a fig-based fragrance like for example Atelier Cologne's Figuer Ardent (though this one smells very similar to Banana Republic Vintage Green) or Acqua di Parma's Fico di Amalfi, but it is still definitely there - and I happen to really like the fig note in fragrances. The fragrance is totally unisex but the sweet fig drydown does make it lean a bit feminine for a bit of its duration. Sillage is moderate but on the stronger side while longevity is incredibly strong at over 12 hours! Overall, the Banana Republic Icon collection presents some really great fragrances that are in my opinion niche-quality at designer prices. This one is the best in the collection in my opinion, followed by Banana Republic's Vetiver Linen. I really love this fragrance as it smells so natural and relaxing (especially with the great fig note) and has amazing longevity on my skin, so I'm giving it a perfect score.

I spotted a couple of 75 ml bottles of this at Ross this week for $19.99 each. They also had a 100 ml of BR Modern. Great finds if you're in the U.S. and you like prowling discount stores as much as I do ;)

Brownieshots

Fantastic fragrance and last a very long time on my body as my body heat is warmer than that of regular people. All fragrances sit well on my skin which I am very grateful for. People go crazy for this bottle as it is no longer available in most places.

aet

Excellent scent...! As others mentioned, it's soapy and green. The opening is like someone took BR Classic and added a greener note. It dries down quite nicely..if somewhat linear. A great fragrance for a spring or summer weekend. Good longevity. This is very unisex so may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Ryanmmas26

This one was decent but only a notch above ok in my book. It did however warrant a “like” !

This opens up very bright, citrusy, green and soapy and stays pretty linear but as the scent dries down it does get slightly more sweet, mellow and green. I did like this but for some reason it didn’t really blow me away and I may wear this on occasion in the warmer months but I don’t see this being a staple in my collection. When I crave a really bright, green aromatic scent I think I’ll stick with Calvin Kleins Truth as it’s a little better suited for my personal taste. Vintage Green is very well blended and I can see a lot of people (Men and women liking this!)

Also when I first smelled this I was quickly reminded of 3 scents I already own and those scents are Elizabeth Arden Green Tea,Mugler Cologne and even very slightly it smells like a Grey Vetiver from Tom Ford.

Performance was very surprising as usually these types of scents don’t last but it lasted me 6-10 hours but with that said this didn’t project very much but was still detectable up close.

Overall rating—6.75 out of 10! It is a nice scent but because I have similar scents in my collection and some of those scents are cheaper it does lose some points for uniqueness and value.

vitop

Wow, I can't believe it! This smells like a wonderful clone of Chanel edition blanche. To top it off, this one lasts for ever. I put it on at 4 pm and it's now 10pm and it still projects off my wrist. Guys this is truly an unknown gem. Check it out. Regards

adagt230

As other reviewers have mentioned this scent is very green and to me is more of a day spring fragrance. Upon first impression I smelled the bergamot and green leaves notes and oddly enough, it also smelled like cucumbers to me. This reminded me of a more spa like version of Creed's Irish Tweed. I checked out this fragrance because I had heard about the similarities between this fragrance and Irish Tweed. It is a very fresh scent that is Unisex, it projects decently and longevity seems to be doing well. I would recommend this fragrance if you like a very green fragrance, and as a plus its not very expensive.

**My 2nd Review of the Banana Republic Icon Collection**

Vintage Green:

- simply put, to my nose, this has vibes of Creed's Original Vetiver, Mugler Cologne and Tom Ford's Neroli Portifino - you could even add a splash of Grey Vetiver in there
- I make these comparisons because Vintage Green is in the same ballpark as these scents - scents that have that fresh, green, almost Irish Spring soap vibe to them

But there is a DIFFERENCE that pushes this more towards Neroli Portifino's corner of that ballpark:

1. The sweetness of the fig note
2. The green tea note

These 2 features push this away from being that professional, "wear to the office" Irish Spring/Vetiver scent. I wore this to the office today and whenever I caught a waft of it, I realized it comes across as sweet (almost feminine instead of unisex) and thus is too playful/casual for work.

You can wear this anywhere but formal/work situations. Leather Reserve, also from the same collection, is more work appropriate but this actually projects and lasts longer than Leather Reserve.

Stay tuned for my next review on the Icon Collection...

SullyMems

I absolutely love this scent. It's soft, green, bright, clean, fresh, and natural smelling. It also lasts a pretty long while. I was surprised by the quality, given that it is Banana Republic. But it really does perform like an EDP for a fresh fragrance. I think it's completely unisex and a great casual scent. Nothing really for the night.

JackieM

The fig and citrus in this makes it incredibly similar to Hermes Jardin en Mediterranee, but it also has a little bit of the Jardin sur Nils as well due to the greenness. More affordable than Hermes to be sure, I can't speak to comparative lasting power, though Hermes does not impress in that sense either. But suffice it to say, a wonderful summer scent and to me, the best of the new BR line.

derekvford

I picked up the icon collection sample set, this is the first one I tested. Strikingly similar to Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver EDT, but greener. Very grassy smell to it. I like it. Pretty good longevity. Definitely a spring day scent! #mrford
