A'mmare by Carthusia is a Aromatic fragrance for women and men. A'mmare was launched in 2021. The nose behind this fragrance is Luca Maffei. Top notes are Salt, Rosemary and Bergamot; middle notes are Water Notes and Mint; base notes are Musk, Cedar, Guaiac Wood and Patchouli.

The horizon is blue. Bergamot, sunny and bright, meets Rosemary. Aromatic, sometimes pungent. On the skin the Salt, which has become crystal. Clear, unmistakable. A dip refreshes, leaves room for the new. Mint leaves, tender softness, green. Hidden Energy. Now the view is satisfied, the horizon is complete. Cedarwood and Guaiac, a precious forest protect Patchouli and Musk, gifts arriving from afar. The magic of the story unfolds all around.

A very surprising fragrance that has opened my mind to liking aromatic green perfumes. Usually I don’t care for herbal notes in perfumes but it’s done so well here and I love something different for the summer besides the traditional tropical coconut style. This is giving elegance, it’s giving boarding a yacht in the Mediterranean while wearing your Celine resort wear and large brimmed hat while sipping an aromatic cocktail specially prepared by the mixologist on board, the sea salt wind in the air, the smell of high end bath products and the flora and fauna of the green Cyprus coastline. It’s divine. I blind bought it from Italy and I have zero regrets. If you like You or Someone Like You, then I think you’ll vibe with this one too. Those two have really surprised me and let me know I’m open to a different style of freshie. Parade by Celine is also giving money, honey. Oh, and this bottle? Are you kidding me?? It’s giving Initio but with Italian flair and design. Love this.

Really nice opening of rosemary and salt, but quickly turns kinda synthetic cloying and sweet to my nose, had to scrub it off. That bottle is lush, though, even the 10ml roller is pretty. Smells almost exactly like Zoologist’s Squid, so if you want an affordable dupe this may be for you.

Not_So_Perfumy

It's hard to review, as I can barely smell anything, and I sprayed A LOT on my hand and jacket.
It is mineral, and herbal with little amber.
I'm not getting any specific green notes(mint, rosemary, patchouli;) just some non descript herbal quality.
Very subtle.
Dry down smells extremely metallic.
Nope!

Wanted to like this so bought an expensive tester decant. The bergamot opening only lasted for a few seconds. Got a good amount of rosemary/aromatics and freshness coming through. I do think it would be nice straight after a swim. It potentially leans masculine becasue if the rosemary. 3.8/5

Amazing beach scent without sun tan lotion smell, obvious salty note. Will hunt for a full bottle

I had really high hopes for this one, but to me it just smelled like fruit punch with a whiff of ocean breeze air freshener. I was so disappointed... the bottle is so beautiful, I really wanted to like it.

If you said to me, "Would you like to sample a marine fragrance that comes from the island Capri?", I would say a polite no thank you. However, when I saw the gorgeous A'MMARE bottle in my favorite perfume store here in Seattle, I had to give it a sniff. It took me completely by surprise. The complexity of this fragrance is somewhat genre-bending, somehow managing to be both light and chewy at the same time. The blue/marine element is definitely there, but there's also a powdery/musky/herbal sweetness that is both reminiscent of and different from amber fragrances that hits you and keeps unfolding as you wear it.

I bought the 10 mL roll-on, and brought it as the only perfume I took with me to Paris. At the end of a transaction of the Goutal boutique near the Musee d'Orsay, the saleswoman asked me what perfume I'd worn into the shop. It was this one, but I couldn't remember the name as it's not on the roll on stick. She began listing marine forward perfumes, gently pressing me on this topic until I left the shop. Mademoiselle, if you're out there, it was this one :).

A’mmare smells like an expensive vacation, like smelling the sea breeze while on holiday on an island. Which makes a lot of sense because it was created by the niche house Carthusia in Capri, in the Mediterranean. Not a cheap place for sure!

I am not a fan of green, aromatic, aquatic, salty, leaning masculine perfumes, but this A’mmare is a gem of a fragrance! I love it.

It opens with a burst of freshness and aromatics, I almost detect lime or some other citruses, then the salt comes in. Mint is not harsh or overpowering at all here. It offers the scent a clean, relaxing facet.

I don’t think I have anything with a rosemary note in my collection so that could be it that makes me love this so much, it’s something here I have not smelled before but I love this!

A’mmare is a beautiful, uplifting, summer perfume, unisex in my opinion, salty, aquatic and herbal. In the same genre like Salina by LO, but this is more fresh, green, herbal and less sweet and vanillic.

The dry down is my favourite part, it becomes a bit sweeter and richer thanks to the cedar, guaiac wood and patchouli. I think these notes offers A’mmare the potency became on me it’s quite long lasting for a freshie.

Best for summer weather wear.

The bottle is to die for, looks really gorgeous in person, better than in promotional pictures! The price is phenomenal for such quality and presentation. Underrated fragrance and house in my opinion!

I see in the Reminds me of section that Bleu Turquoise by Armani might be similar to A’mmare. I need to sample that as well, I might be loving this kind of fragrances after all!

I went to a niche perfumery to try a few things today, and even tho this one was not on my top 3, i still decided to try it on my skin. It was fresh, different, weird, didnt love it but didnt hate it either.

I went to lunch, run a couple of errands, and when i tell you that this perfume grew better and better, and so delicious, i had to go back a got a bottle of it, im not kidding. it is probably the BEST perfume i've smelled lately!
and the funny thing is, im a gourmand/warm scents kinda girl. i dont even like mint! But this... just WORKS!!
the sea salt with that cedar/patchouli and minty vibe omg. and it lasts a LOT!

it will be perfect for summer! it screams for beach/sea vibe. i LOVE it.

alternateu

This is... so strong... and horrifying. It's definitely strongly reminiscent of a marine fragrance, but beyond just salt, the combination of musk and herbs gives this wet, dank, ambergris-type RANK drydown on my skin. It's not a poorly made perfume, this is well-blended and definitely gives a specific niche vibe. But I just can't wear this.

TBonetheFella

Recently smelled this while on vacation and I have a few thoughts (I apologize for the bad writing and formatting but I’m tired):

to my nose all of the notes smell more like aroma therapy or essential oils instead of oils made for perfume. Because of this I truthfully hate the opening. The opening smells like this screeching clash of rosemary, mint, and salt. This may sound good to you, and I encourage you to try it to form your own opinion, but they all come together to form this weird BO, green, and aromatic mix I don’t really enjoy. Then as it dries down the guaiac wood and water notes tamper the potency of the 3 original notes and make it this ok and pleasant marine scent that smells a lot like driftwood, sunscreen, and salty musk.

This really does smell like a person who’s been at the beach all day. Both in the great ways about that and the bad ways. This scent doesn’t romanticize the smell at all like many other beach marine scents do, and I can respect it for that.

this is olfactive art and I love it for the smell as described above. This is definitely something I wouldn’t wear very much though. After about an hour and on it’s great and I’d love to wear that, but I don’t want to have to wait an hour to love how I smell. It’s an ok scent to me through and through.

ultrawhite

just only if you want to smell like a blown up mattress on the dry down then go for it!

I just received my 100 ml from the Nose Paris. There is no projection what so ever, I'll leave for the maceration for a couple of months the perfume which one was purchased for the summer in July????? It was a blindbuy. I do know Luca Maffei works and all of them are subtly cruddy, so please, count me out from those games out. To be honest, when you are paying for the juice over 100 EU, then you would like to have of them more than a ridiculously skin scent? It simply doesn't do a job nonmatter how the idea is great for the poor silage and non projection it's going down the drain as a skin scent. Besides the dry down is just generic leathery amber based which smells utterly cheap designers after splash like Roberto Cavalli La Notte Blue. I'd suggest to save your money and to go for the unreal deal for the summer like Giardino Benessere Salaria instead of that sentimental impotent trans urine.

raru1337

Beautiful marine fragrance.

Much more wearable than Acqua di Sale or Sel Marin.

AnhTony

Blind bought. Very unique and reminds me of sea-salt taffy, like I can eat it. The only marine scent I need. Wore this on my trip to Carmel by the Sea, CA and every time I smell this, it takes me back to that trip. Sexy sillage and good projection. You and the people around you will love it. Going to buy more from Carthusia in the future.

It's a very potent marine scent without being too heavy like calone fragrances. The accord which constitutes the saltiness is almost like play-doh, but the rosemary and cedar wraps it all in a very elegant bouquet. This is a great, unique summer scent, it's almost a shame I can't wear this year-round.

broomflower

Wears very beautifully in summer, a very clear cedar perfume with a dash of musk, mint, and bergamot. Dries down to a fancy, chewy sunscreen. Sits close to the screen, wears for a good 6 hours, classic and beachy! Very wearable, low key.

chrismia

I immediately thought Replica Beach Walk when spraying this on. Unisex leaning feminine, light and clean. The salt and watery notes lead the way with sweet woods and musks underneath. Overall effect feels like too much of a beach-themed scented candle, which is a shame because the bottle is probably the most beautifully designed I've seen.

kigyo

This smells exactly like the end of a beach day in the summer. Clean, slightly salty, breezy, fresh, but comfy, relaxed, happy, and satisfied. Luca Maffei is an artist with natural talent, incredible imagination, and pioneering creative genius. My all-time favorite is Le Loden, and I swear I can detect a minimal reminder of that magnificent fragrance in this one. I love perfumes like this one, because they are never boring or linear.

Vince540

One of my favorites for spring, summer and those very hot days. This frag is light, fresh and clean. I would wear this after a nice evening shower during summer after a long hot day. This can be worn day or night. It gives you a clean refreshing feeling. Unisex. I love this one. 😁

Pas Ce Soir

This is so not supposed to be my thing. I typically do not like fragrances with these notes. I got a sample of this, and I am in love. It smells like the sea to me. How you smell after being in the sea. It’s salty, refreshing, and musky. I wore it to bed, and could still smell it in the morning. I wanted to just throw caution to the wind and buy a bottle without bothering to sample. The bottle is gorgeous. I am glad I got the sample first, and I will definitely be buying a 50ml.

DapperDon

Not quite sure how to describe this. Opens with a Vicks rub menthol type minty note. The dry down is interesting in the scene that IDK WTF is going on & IDK where the hell the scent is taking me. It’s definitely mostly Guaiac wood, but mixed with a lil mint & the water note. Kinda smells like a dark chocolate bar took a bath 🤨.
This is not a freshie nor uplifting lol 💯 nor is it aquatic/ green. I’ve definitely smelled worse.. this is 🤔 unique though. IMO I want to sell the decant I purchased

Edit 7/23:
I’ve found this to be a pleasant scent. Best for warmer weather. Very addictive when mixed w/ body sweat (the salt amplified). I still stand behind the overall scent as - a dark chocolate bar being washed with sea water & teatree/mint body wash.
The only negative thing is that there is a slight resemblance to sun lotion🧴. Smells like your skin after being at the beach all day.
I do plan on purchasing a bottle.
Edit:
Bought a 50ml

Crackers #29

Such a clever blending of notes and accords, so smooth, so clean, so uplifting.
Am I the only one that gets a hint of non-indolic white florals?
Either way, this 'imagined-accord' is what truly sets this apart from the rest!
I tip my hat to you, Mr. Maffei...sensational job.

Capricious Capricorn

Beauty Habit gives you a sample of purchased bottle so you can try it before you open/unwrap the bottle incase you're not familiar with it. I was delighted upon first sniff of the sample and thought "A keeper!" Then it quickly faded and I wasn't happy with its quirky dry down. But I kept reapplying what I could wanting to repeat my initial experience until I ran out of my sample. Dry down became more intriguing and I wanted to spray more and more, so I succumbed and opened the bottle and kept it. Glad I did! Now I love it and look forward to its musky end, which LASTS and is unique. Starts out salty and breezy and dries down humid and musky. Is true to its aquatic, herbal, mint and wood notes. A fresh and quirky spin on the beachy scent genre. And the bottle is TDF.

Ralphangel

Normally, I am not a fan of green, acquatic mens perfume, but this is just a gem! The top notes of salt, rosemary, and bergamot blended with the mint, watery notes, with a woody, musk base notes turns this perfume into a beautiful Acquatic, aromatic, green, with an incredible soft and powdery dry down. I own many beautiful niche summer scents such as Xerjoff Uden Overdose, Xerjoff Accento, Xerjoff Commandante, Creed Aventus, Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa, and Acqua di Parma Chinotto di Liguria, and I must say for less than half the price this is just as beautiful with as much complexity. A masterful composition!

It last long on my skin, but the sillage is not "beast mode", so have to spray a lot to project far. So this would be fine in the office or on a warm bus. Easy to wear day scent.
I have a good skin scent even after 12 hours, so it lasts long. It is fresh and clean. The smell is like the skin has just been washed in the sea with a minty soap. It has this coolness about it which is great on a hot day. It doesn't smell completely like Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford, but it reminds me of it. It might be the rosemary and bergamot. This might be even better the higher the temperature is as it would project more, but it turns into a skin scent after a few hours on my skin. But it lasts long. A unique aquatic and unisex masculine-leaning smell.

I discovered this perfume by reading Fragrantica editor John Biebel's review of it in the above linked article (Editors' Best Perfumes of 2021). Thank you, Mr. John! At first I wasn't sure how I felt about it after trying a sample but I couldn't stop smelling my wrist for the next couple of hours. Now I love it. Definitely takes me on a journey with how it seems to change on my skin. Like being near and smelling the ocean with wafts of salt, some light herbs and woods and just a touch of sweetness. The drydown and lasting skin scent are intoxicating to me. Def unisex and can wear year round but I am looking foward to wearing it this summer. (For those in the US, CO Bigelow just got their inventory of this in the 50/100ml sizes. You get free shipping, free samples and a 10% discount off your first purchase when you sign up for their member loyalty program online.) And hey that bottle design...BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Bubbles1964

The salt and watery notes evoke the ocean as expected. Mint and rosemary take A’mmare into a more herbal direction than other aquatics. It’s all very natural, completely unisex and an easy to wear summer scent. Of course there’s synthetics used in this composition, but it’s done well and helps give A’mmare some good performance.

Personally I think I love the bottle design more than the juice. I would happily wear the perfume too, but if I acquire A’mmare I would have that bottle on my vanity just so I could see it everyday.

Old Herbaceous

This is a perfect summer fragrance and totally unisex. It reminds me of the smell of an herb garden by the sea -- aromatic, lightly green, salty, fresh. I can take or leave most "beachy" scents; I have several I like, but most just smell like suntan lotion, which gets boring after a while. A'mmare is refreshing and summery without being a cliché. I'm glad I got it, and I may be sharing it with my husband!

Forbiddenjade

Tested this yesterday and well! It IS most definitely the twin brother of Blue Turquoise Armani Privé. I'm serious (ladies, looking at you in particular but not only)... this is barber shop posh cologne. But barber shop one remains. Tryin' to spare you a disappointment and save your money. Buy Blue Turquoise instead for better quality, longevity and originality.

While BT only hints at shaving foam, here that note is prominent and frankly, a bit bothering. It makes the core, or DNA of this number which for this reason I consider more masculine in genre than feminine. It is not a verging, leaning masculine - that shaving foam note is THE note around which feeble others lightly tip toe around.

I cannot even say that it's fresh, for it isn't - the shaving foam doesn't exactly suggest freshness. I don't hate it, but cannot love it as much as BT which is more versatile and legére on that foam note and so, more enjoyable for me.

A' mmare is more "shaving in the bathroom of a house somewhere nearby the sea". Btw, it's a cold, rainy morning so no beach will be visited today.

Bashayersnose

I can really smell the salt and the ozonic watery note when sprayed on someone else. It's an absolute dream. When I spray it on myself however, I smell something almost gourmand or sweet almost like vanilla that I dont like.

I'm a big fan of carthusia and aria di capri is one of the frags I was addicted to worn daily twice a day until I finished the. Bottle in less than 3 months.

I like the happy salty mellow summer holiday vibe of A’mmare; and like I’ve come to expect from the Carthusia house it’s certainly a well-made and interesting scent done with an admirably light touch (and, in this case, with a really gorgeous bottle as a nice bonus). It doesn’t fit my personal taste enough to make me want more of it in case I ever finish the little decant I got as a gift, but I think I’d love this on other people (men and women a like - it really is truly unisex). And if I need a little fantasy holiday in the middle of a drab working day, I’ll know where to look!

Stwmylos

This endeavor to combine aquatic and salty notes with accentuated aromatic and green elements is kind of interesting, but simultaneously confusing. I think it is the mint and rosemary that perplex things, but I could be wrong as well. Anyway, for me the result is a bit weird and slightly headache-inducing. That being said, it is not bad, it just does not push the right buttons.

Vitodito

A mmare (which in napoli dialect means at sea) is clearly an hybrid between Bleu Turquoise and Acqua di Sale.

I like it but i own both so i think it’s unnecessary. But this is quite good, a very beautiful summer perfume, very unisex, smells salty, very aquatic with a cucumber vibe and some very few sweetness in the bg.

The bottle is lovely too, and the price is quite good!

catswearingperfume

This is an uplifting beachy, summer scent, wonderfully done without any of those "solar" accords and without referencing anything resembling tanning lotion.

It opens with a burst of aromatic citrus, which is quickly enhanced with the salt. I know the top notes say bergamot, but it does remind me a lot of lime. It's delightfully fresh, aquatic, a little herbal, but not sweet. A'mmare's vibe is more like drinking a club soda with lime by a salty body of water — not a sweet cocktail. It does get slightly sweeter, saltier, and richer in the dry down, but it's still very light and hints of that aromatic rosemary remain throughout. For me, the drydown is the smell of salt water dried on warm, clean skin. And the far dry down — I'm talking a good 8 hours after spraying — is a light, soapy musk.

I love a lot of beachy scents, but I sometimes tire of the tanning lotion and coconut tropes, as if the coastal experience didn't have so much more to offer. A'mmare is a really nice departure from those cliches — it's oceanic and fresh without resorting to a cocktail or sun product reference.

I think unisex is the right descriptor for this, though in a different world I could also see this marketed as a masculine summer freshie. But in other ways, it could also be a distant cousin of Calvin Klein Escape for Women, though A'mmare is much cheerier, breezier, and more modern.

And if you, like me, were interested in this because the bottle looks exciting— I can confirm that the bottle is even more beautiful in person.

Bubbles1964

I might need to buy this just for the bottle, I love it!
