Gabrielle by Chanel is a Floral fragrance for women. Gabrielle was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Polge. Top notes are Grapefruit, Mandarin Orange and Black Currant; middle notes are Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Tuberose, Lily-of-the-Valley, Pear and Pink Pepper; base notes are Musk, Sandalwood, Cashmeran and Orris.

"Olivier Polge crafted this Eau de Parfum as an imaginary flower — a radiant and sparkling, purely feminine Chanel blossom based on a bouquet of four white flowers: a rich, enveloping heart of exotic Jasmine shimmers with the fruity green notes of Ylang-Ylang, while fresh and sparkling Orange Blossom shines through, offering a glimpse of Grasse Tuberose captured at its finest. Four points of light that recall the four corners of the bottle."

Top notes: mandarin, grapefruit, black currant
Heart: tuberose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, orange blossom
Base: sandalwood, musk

The new bottle and packaging, which took five years to be made, are designed by Sylvie Legastelois, head of packaging and graphic design creation. She wanted it to be jewel-like yet simple and in line with the classic bottles of the house. The square bottle is colored in a soft golden shade that transmits the light, as a symbol of the sunny character of the fragrance.

Actress Kristen Stewart is the face of the campaign that includes a film shot by director Ringan Ledwidge and a print ad lensed by Karim Sadli.

It is available as a 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

I love opening, citrus accords are gentle and beautiful, mandarin is lovely 🥰 ,i don’t get typical Chanel vibes, but on my skin in the dry down I get classic Chanel DNA which I’m not in to. Geez those mandarins in opening hunts me, I will savor my sample.

Lilium86

I love the citrusy top note, grapefruit being one of those notes alongside lemon that I love using in the summer. I will use this perfume on summer evenings; it remains elegant, like having applied expensive after-sun creams followed by a grapefruit-scented water. It reminds me a lot of Tous Gold, which I use for work, except that Tous Gold smells more like shampoo while this one leans more towards creamy

iNayla

Its the grandma type of a perfume. Very white floral, Thats all.

I would say the hair mist is ok. But as a perfume no.

SaraZigova

Prefer this to essence 😶🌫️

nonelle

This is okay, but definitely not my favorite from Chanel. The citrus is very sour and I don't detect iris at all, which is a pity because I love iris. I think that Gabrielle Essence might be a better fit for me even though it doesn't have the iris note, but the citrus note should be a bit softer in Essence

SL.MS1958

My bottle from several years ago is still half full. Which tells me something. I like it, don’t love it. It takes a good few minutes for Gabrielle and I to break the ice, so to speak, and make a connection, but eventually it happens. I do enjoy citrussy florals, and the soft woodsy musky drydown is very pleasant, my favorite phase actually. I don’t have a longevity problem with it. I just don’t reach for it often. I don’t think this would be a safe blind buy or gift, but it might be. It’s inoffensive. It’s just not wow.

jadepo21

I don’t smell the Chanel DNA in this at all. Actually, all I smell is an acrid citrus. My husband said it smelled like Skin So Soft, and once he said it, it was all I could smell too. I adore the Gabrielle Essence which has a deep white floral quality, but this is just a super generic, sharp, citrus-forward scent that is far too linear and simple. I just don’t understand this as Chanel’s comeback.

Miss boudoir

'Gabrielle' eau de parfum by Chanel is an ode to the youth of mademoiselle Chanel. A perfume that is a tribute to young Gabrielle, before she became the famous designer, Coco Chanel.

It is not easy to create a perfume that captures the life of someone as special and creative as Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel. The expectations were high for Olivier Polge, as the new in-house perfumer of Chanel. Olivier is the son of the previous maitre parfumeur, Jacques Polge.

Olivier was an already established perfumer himself (Jimmy Choo signature, Dior Homme, 2005 etc.), when he had to pass the challenge of surpassing the work of previous tributes to the legendary designer, such as no 19 (1970) by Henri Robert and Coco (1984) by Jacques Polge.

Gabrielle Chanel had an interesting yet turbulent life. She was special. The first impression I had when I first smelled this perfume was that it feels like an olfactory short movie, with an opening scene, showing a young Gabrielle. She is in front of an open window, feeling the breeze of the fresh air and the warmth of the sun. The chilliness of the early morning along with the warmth of the sun on her face convey liberating feelings. The liberating happiness of what they call, 'small yet meaningful l things' is revived in this perfume.

The opening of this perfume is enriched with citrus mingled with black currant, almost like a caramelized citrus. The white flowers, orange blossom, tuberose, ylang ylang are the main protagonists of this olfactory journey. Notes of musk, sandalwood, amber and maybe a hint of vanilla, give wonderful background undertones that strengthen this beautiful composition, almost like a musical composition.

It's not a coincidence that Olivier was a classically trained piano player. For this perfume, he managed to add another dimension to Chanel perfumes, Music and Cinematography. His perfumes are mini movies with a mini soundtrack. Gabrielle is a 'sunny' perfume but it's not an ordinary one. To my nose, Gabrielle is more refined than the original J'adore by Dior, yet warmer. The drydown reminded me of a vintage and discontinued scent, Angelique Encens by Creed.

Gabrielle is an olfactory depiction of the dawn and the sunset, enriched with a deep feeling that remains from the top notes until the drydown. This warmth lingers beautifully on the skin…

Olivier Polge tried to refine the formula of Gabrielle and make it better and better.. he wanted to leave behind a legacy of a profound classic scent that touches the senses.. He wanted to create a 'signature' scent for the modern woman. Olivier Polge creates perfumes like a musician would do. Perfumes that are personal yet in need to be shared…

Gabrielle was followed by Gabrielle Essence, eau de parfum, a 'refinement' of the first Gabrielle? Let's find out… Stay tuned for my next perfume review… and don't forget to have a wonderful day!

Until next time,
Miss Boudoir 💋

This is a nice scent, a bit frizzy but I like the florals in it.. the huge downside is that on me it does not last longer than 1h.. which is a shock because perfumes last a long time on me usually.. I hope I did not get a bad batch

bajablast

I'm a Chanel fan but to my nose this was a nondescript fruity fragrance with poor longevity. Just ok.

Mishka6

Starts with a sharp, almost medicinal, vaguely herbal blast of grapefruit, black current and orris. Def something rooty there. Quite a unisex opening.
In a couple of mins, morphs into a waxy, earthy, incense-like, warmer scent. The pear has a vegetale, celery aspect. I detect pink pepper and orris.
After 10 mins, it's less incense, still lot's of pink pepper, orris, and a strange vegetale scent. If that's pear, it's a masculine one. Still unisex.
After a half hr, begins to transition to feminine. In an hr, it's sex-change is complete.
From contemporary, unisex fragrance in the style of Hermes, it's now a full-out 70's/early 80's throwback style ultra-femme ylang-ylang and powdery vanilla dominant fragrance. It reminded me of something from the past, and then I realized I was smelling a softer version of Jontue, one of my favorite 80's perfumes. It was a masterpiece, so it's nice to see Chanel's little tribute to it here.
I only wear it in Summer, as hot weather brings out it ylang-ylang and vanilla notes more fully.
Decent projection, lasts a few hrs.

Gabrielle mimosa

It's nothing special. Like don't get me wrong it's a nice scent but I'm just indifferent to it .to my nose It's pretty much citrus and white flowers , doesn't last much on me nd the protection is rather weak its okay bit its nothing spectacular. I finished mine this week won't be buying it again .

Juhhcarneiro2

I love Maison Chanel, I like the scent of gabrielle also the notes, but it doesn't last on my skin.
I can feel a little of chanel 5, maybe is because of ylang ylang note.
Not so unique, I prefer CM and number 19, this one doesn't worth the price tag.
Gabrielle essence is better than the original gabrielle

Maya.ArroyoBurton

Fragrantica needs to correct the fragrance pyramid. It's as follows:
Top notes: mandarin, grapefruit, black currant
Heart: tuberose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, orange blossom
Base: sandalwood, musk

There's no pepper, pear, orris or cashmeran notes.

Kpeachy

I was gifted this bottle by my bf. It reminds me of Dior J’dore I used to wear years ago.

I enjoy wearing it when I want to feel feminine, and dress up. It’s a bit too floral for me as I prefer Fresh scents like Chance.
Whether you are a fan or not, Chanel perfumes have great quality for money. They last forever. I had this bottle for 4 years and it still smells gorgeous.
Silage is good too.

Jernê Knowles

Initially it seems not to be a Chanel, due to the intimate way it opens between citrus, fruity and syrupy touches. He has a rather notorious shyness which is not common to the Maison!

However, only the opening is, let's say, behaved, because soon he assumes the D.N.A. Chanel de ser, with refinement, finesse, powdery, dense, enduring and highly admirable backgrounds. I like the way when he proves his family identity and brings up the memory of some older cousins.

For my little noses, Gabrielle is born from a family 'incest', between Allure EDP and EDT plus Chanel Nº19 EDT and Poudré. There is no denying the great similarity and intertwining of the two consanguineous in the evolution of this youngest! For hours I question whether or not I'm using fragrance X or Y.

Incredible how Gabrielle's Jasmine is the same Jasmine that I feel in vintage fragrances from almost 50 years ago by Maison Chanel, that is to have respect for consumers by maintaining the cultivation and selected manipulation of its raw materials, so that it remains the most as faithful as possible entering a generation, leaving a generation!

I don't consider Garielle more of the same, however, if she doesn't have extra attention, she runs the risk of going unnoticed, this fragrance doesn't deserve it, I must say!

jenaissequois

I love Gabrielle. It’s sophisticated, woman getting something done energy. Musky with white florals, personally I don’t get the citrus top notes listed. I like the original Gabrielle more than essence (I own the OG, and I’ve used it for years) because it smells lighter. They both opens the same but Essence settles into a heavier, archetypal Chanel sort of smell (leaning towards No.5) while the original Gabrielle smells younger and more fresh and floral forward which I love. I think it depends on your personal preference which version you prefer, but this is one of my signature scents forever. Sillage is great, not too much but enough projection, and it lasts all day and during the winter it lingers on my clothes days after. Extremely worth it!

cheleine

Too much pencil shavings this one.
I remember smelling it for the first time and feeling absolutely nothing. I thought it was just meh.
Then weeks later I smelled the Essence version (that I now own) not really expecting much and I gasped.
It was luminous, rich, yet sparkling, slightly sweeter… Silk, champagne, the sun on your skin. An absolute love.
I can’t say the same for the OG Gabrielle.
It left me unimpressed, uninspired and unsatisfied and it just really wasn’t blending well with my skin chemistry.
To my nose they’re very different scents with similar DNA and unfortunately they both have fleeting performances.

Conniec

This is a serious perfume. A perfume to use in a formal office day o formal work event or formal presentation etc.
This perfume empower from the feminine energy says : I get this job done. And then, when you finish whatever your job is, you take your heels and go for a cocktail because you are serious, but not boring.
Sheers and enjoy.

AlexandraRoseD

Although fresh and uplifting, longevity is around 2 hours.
The essense version lasts significantly longer (6-8h) and it is more complex and more beautiful.

This version is more like an eau de toilette.

Lotte_Liese

Gabrielle, why have I never been tempted to get a sample of you until now? Love at first sniff! Why? Because of the sexy interplay of ylang ylang, something citrus, tuberose, musk and sandalwood. This fragrance is a perfect fit for the professional woman who wants to be taken seriously but not at the expense of her femininity. That's the mental picture I have with every well blended sniff.

Sunlit Diamond

Gabrielle is clutch. She is my "serious" perfume that I wear for work, formal events, or any time I need to feel professional but still retain my fairy-soul interior. Gabrielle gives confidence and power while respecting the need for feminine expression. She's poised and ready to get the job done, from court room to board meeting, but the wearer knows that her true essence is sitting in the sand on a private beach, champagne in one hand, $50k cash in the other with glitter and magic beaming smartly from playful eyes and freshly tousled hair.

verzosa

Went to Nordstrom's last night before catching a movie with my husband. I finally got a chance to test this out. We both Mmmm'ed over it. I became instantly in love and now I can't get it out of my head. I could tell my husband wanted to give this to me as a present one day because he kept telling me to remind him what it was called (he has a good nose as I have him blind sniff fragrances and he seems to have really expensive tastes; he typically gravitated to liking more niche fragrances). However, I can not bear to wait, I need it now and will be purchasing it before hand.

It's very classy, effortlessly sexy and inoffensive. I can see wearing this everyday. I'm in aw of how the soft white florals project. Definitely signature scent worthy.

mustrange

Saturday Afternoon chic wedding, charity lunch in the club. Feminine, general but not simple or naive. It says: I am young and rich. That's it's statement. The J' adore of the 21th Century

wayintoperfumes

No wonder Margot Robbie is the face of this perfume!
Let alone the beautiful bottle, but this fragrance is just so sophisticated and feminine -
there are only few women who'd be able to actually pull it off.
If youre done with being the girlfriend and want to become the classic wifey material. Go for this baby or the coco mademoiselle one. xx

sabahatshah

This is a lovely floral with a classy Chanel dry down of powder. The opening is definetly reminiscent of J'adore but it quickly turns into a Coco Mademoiselle - sans patchouli. On my skin I mostly get the Coco mademoiselle vibe until the very end where it turns into a powdery skin scent very much like No 5. So if you like Coco and No 5- this is a great rendition of those two. I love it !

Sheherazad

Elevated floral. Sophisticated, classy, powerful. A woman at the head of the table. When she enters a room, silence & awe. All eyes on her. And she knows it. However, inexplicably, the scent doesn’t strike me as special. Other than smelling strong & expensive, there’s little about it that encourages me to reach for it on days I don’t need to command a room — days that are Covid rare now. Nice scent. Effective in a particular mise-en-scène. Kind of unremarkable otherwise.

CarlaN

Gabrielle is classy, absolutely serious and has her shit together. She doesn't nees to flaunt her femininity with accessories, bright colours or sweet perfume trails. She owns the room without saying a word.
This is what this amazing fragrance makes me feel.
Obviously the character must fit the scent, and I think I'm still too young and naive to fully do justice to it. Maybe I'll never be like Gabrielle.
It's flowery and powdery, strong and long lasting without projecting everywhere.
Great example of a fragrance with character and beauty, which is not for everyone and may not be loved by everyone.

agejo

one of the best perfumes i've used, shocked i wasn't introduced to it earlier! this perfume might start making me actually enjoy floral noted fragrances, haha. surprisingly, quite strong, but not overwhelming. the notes are amazing too, the pear, blackcurrant, tuberose and musk really stood out to me though? like they are very... very strong compared to the rest of them. love this scent though, very very cute. wish i got a bigger bottle though, i only have a small tester bottle.. recommended for people who enjoy fruity & floral fragrances, Gabrielle is the perfect mix of the two.

Irisfvh

Ohhh I can't choose between buying Gabrielle or Gabrielle Essence for spring.

Gabrielle to me is fresh juicy floral, Essence to me is a round warm floral.

In Gabrielle I smell the different notes, in Essence they are more blended together.

I usually choose a fresher perfume over a sweeter one but with this perfume I just dont know which one to get. Will use up both my testers and make a choice.

I definitely enjoy the sunny opening of Essence more. Lets see how it dries down.

Update after 1 hour: somehow in the drydown Gabrielle gets more round floral and fruitier. The florals and warmth in Essence seem to disappear a bit on my skin and it turns into a more of a sandelwood fragrance.

After 2 hours: Gabrielle turned into a pleasant soft fresh fruity floral and has become rounder than in the official first spray. I smell pear and jasmine

Essence has got its initial warth back on my skin and the peach and ylang ylang have become more prominent.

I love both but the Essence is so dreamy, sunny and warm!
I think this is the winner!

kaiak

Its classy. Smells clean and nice but nothing special.
Great option for office ir formal event. Probably doesn't offend anyone...

Cadera97

It's one of the lightest florals I own. Due to the beautiful balance of citrus, flowers and base, I can wear it in a 30° C summer without feeling overwhelmed like with some heavier florals that I keep for cold weather. Very elegant and modern.

moksausa

I don't know why Chanel fragrances don't match my skin even though I like French foods and wines influenced by my father who was a French chef.

I tried this one with expectations to come to like Chanel scents at least with respect to the founder, Coco Chanel, and her life story.

The fragrance smells too overwhelming.
No uniqueness that can remind you of Gabriel herself.

If this is an interpretation of her personality by the brand, I might have misunderstood her character.

I tried very hard to appreciate the fragrance,
but I couldn't.
It might be because of the preferences of my family members who enjoy other french brands such as Guerlain and Jean Patou.

Mjchaelj

Pretty florals, maybe a tiny bit dated. It’s alright. it kind of reminds me of dryer sheets, just like Dior J’adore does. I would rather get Coco Mademoiselle. That one is way better in my opinion.

6.5/10

irenesa

I just love it.
Gabrielle might be a boring perfume for the edgier woman out there but hey... sometimes it's ok to just smell clean and nice, don't you think? For those days when you don't want to think much about how to wear in your big humongous perfume closet just grab this and be happy.

This scent is lovely if you want to smell clean, sophisticated, and fresh.
Gabrielle might be soapy, in an expensive way. I see myself using this on vacation at the beach, for a night out, for dinner, at the office you name it, this is definitively a good safe perfume.

Some say it is sweet. well, no I don't catch any sweetness, on me it is woody and citrus.. of course, white flowery...

A Ladylike comfortable woman ready to enjoy life.

taurusenergy

Fresh, beautiful, and great for every day. Grapefruit is the star, but otherwise it's very well blended, and slightly soapy. Work appropriate but not boring. Grown up but not 'mature'. Signature scent worthy depending on your style. I imagine this being incredible in the dog days of summer when you want to feel clean and fresh and put together despite the heat.

AshBud

Immediately reminded me of Elizabeth Arden 5th Ave. White juicy floral, very ladylike, inoffensive. Its beautiful, but for the price, I expect way more projection.

RachRach

It’s gorgeous! Generic and inoffensive but gorgeous. This is for an elegant, classy lady. It is a citrusy/orangey and floral scent, it’s perfect for a warm weather, it feels fresh, elegant and simple at the same time. The type of fragrance that once you’re out of the shower you wear and feel instantly good. If you wanna smell sophisticated without doing too much it’s the perfect perfume.

Annemarie

I agree with the comment below that if Gabrielle had been the signature of a princess - Grace or Diana - it would be iconic. Like Hermes 24 Faubourg, which people like to sigh over because Princess Diana wore it.

Gabrielle and 24F have something in common - both are beautiful, flawless even, but conventional. Boujee, as we now say.

so_what

I kind of like the opening note in this perfume: there is some strange subconscious appeal in this strong generic smell of "expensive perfume". It definitely reminds you some other famous perfume brand, but you can't grasp quite exactly which one. Perhaps, J'Adore by Dior? Unfortunately, the deepest note in Gabrielle is something I'm not a big fan of: when it dries down, it kind of smells like cheap overly sweet... berry chewing gum?

LinnieR

The perfect white flower perfume. Classy but still interesting, delicate but different. I don’t understand people who think this is boring when the blending and longevity is outstanding. Yes, it’s mass-appealing and office friendly, but it’s not unoriginal or underwhelming (unlike certain white flower scents such as Prada Paradoxe, which is the most basic perfume I ever smelled).

The opening is fizzy and sparkling, and the dry down smells like Lily of The Valley and black currant, with a warmth like sun rays. It has depth, but the brightness makes me feel liberated and happy. A 10/10!

kyraberries

I loved it instantly the first time I brought it to my nose. The citrus and white flowers are so alluring and elegant, and the drydown is even more so. Earthy, graceful, comforting, and just a tad animalic. Gabrielle is an angel with a bit of wickedness in her. The prim and proper lady at the table who is secretly an animal in the sheets. Gabrielle is the classic and modern woman in one.

You've done something right here, Chanel.

malikun

I need to rethink my initial opinion on this perfume, I was prejudiced about white florals here and didn’t even test at a store, didn’t like it straight out of the bottle. Boy I was wrong, I had to try 😑 my friend gifted a bottle of Gabrielle to me later and I realized it is gorgeous, wow. Its winter now but in the warm office or home environment it will open up as a fizzy, airy, lightly sweet and elusive scent. At least it did for me. There is something molecular about it, similar to Chanel Chance, something elegant as Allure. worth trying!

GirardLau

This is a good office scent. I love it, but I have not find the good way to wear it yet because I feel like it's still too mature for me. I tried to layer it with a plum-vanilla fragrance and it was a good match. I'll see how it grows on me with time. It as a solar-put together personality that I really like.

Reine_des_Neiges

I have owned Gabrielle and her flanker "Essence" for almost two years now. And I must admit I am surprised by the people who compare her to Dior's "J'adore". To my nose (which is likely considered "unsophisticated" by Fragrantica standards) they smell entirely different.

J'adore is soapy, even all its flankers are to my nose. Even the L'Or version. They all, more or less, smell like a bar of soap to my nose. A luxurious one, for the record, but soap nonetheless. Gabrielle smells like a perfume, however. "Perfume-y", definitely. But certainly a perfume versus a soap.

I've read a lot of reviews that were disappointed in this scent. Saying it is "unoriginal" - especially so for a Chanel scent. But to be perfectly honest: I cannot smell anything but a perfect bright white floral that is put together and classy - a scent category very often requested on the forums. Sometimes I wonder in how far this is simple fragrance snobbery; anything that is new must be bad. Sometimes I even wonder if a royal princess of our time who were to pass tragically young - like Grace Kelly or Diana - had this as her signature scent, in how far the reviews would change after her hypothetical premature demise.

Because Gabrielle - to me - is all of these: she is modern and fresh, not too different but different enough to be unique, classy and put together and a scent for truly any occasion. Gabrielle (and her flanker) can be dressed up and down as you please. It is truly a versatile scent for any woman who fits (or wishes to fit) into that classy woman type.

8/10 for me; longevity could be a bit better for the price. Essence is slightly better about this but still not 10/10 worthy.

LindaL100

I usually don't like Chanel perfumes but this 'Gabrielle' perfume is 1 of the few Chanel fragrances I actually like and it is in fact my favourite fragrance from Chanel, I really like the combination of fruity and floral notes in this and it smells nice on my skin. In terms of its longevity though, well it lasts about 4-5 hours on my skin, which is not terrible by any means, but considering the fact that it costs over $220 for a 100ml bottle at Chemist Warehouse, you would expect the longevity of this fragrance to be a lot longer and stronger for your money's worth, but alas, it's not, at least not for me. However everyone's skin and body chemistry are different, so it might last longer on someone else's skin, but for me personally, its moderate longevity on my skin just doesn't justify its hefty price tag, like all Chanel perfumes are, Gabrielle is very overpriced. I still like the smell of Gabrielle though and I still like to wear it, I just wouldn't buy this with my own money, but my friend owns a bottle of this and I would sometimes wear hers.

cowboyfuel

Reviewing from a sample bottle.

This feels like the perfect cross between No.5 and Coco Mademoiselle, almost. It’s mature, but still teases with delicate florals. It has a bit of that harshness that people associate with No.5, but it’s far more soft and muted. It doesn’t lack depth either — Gabrielle has its own scent profile to explore separate from its sister fragrances. A well-rounded floral scent. Somewhat basic, but Gabrielle does it in style.

gourmandgyaani

a very pretty, basic floral fresh number
way overpriced for the kind of perfume ( I like my perfumes a little strong or unique at least)
but the ingredients, the way it smells, the blending and longevity is outstanding.
you can tell that of all the million perfumes in this family, this would be the queen of the kingdom because of sheer strength, quality, clarity and brightness. its really good quality and it is pretty. great, classy everyday option.
a day time brunch with coworkers, dinner at your bosses house or a public encounter with anyone you wish would think highly of you - go for this. its good. lasts forever too.

GiulianaC

The opening is screechy, soapy, abstract and even slightly powdery in a way that reminds me of a more modern cross between the No 5 Eau de parfum opening and the Coco Mademoiselle dry down, minus the patchouli. It's very austere, elegant but at the same time very sharp, especially in the first two hours of wear and on my skin. The dry down is much more pleasant to my nose, but stays clean and pretty abstract throughout: I don't get any single white flower in particular, but a mash of them drowned in citrusy sour notes. Luckily the base notes smooth the entire composition, which is way different smelling than I had imagined just by looking at the notes.

I don't love Gabrielle for some reason: maybe it's the headachy opening and it's monolithic personality. One would imagine this to be sunny, fresh, approachable, but to me it's the exact opposite: it retains a very clear strong bond to the Chanel fragrances DNA, which makes this entire mixed feelings encounter make sense and feel nostalgic.
Would I buy a bottle? No. If you like creamy, smooth and transparent white flowers, this will disappoint you.

If you want a pleasant and effortless Chanel fragrance, then go for Chance and it's flankers or the evergreen Coco Mademoiselle instead.
If you want the real OG Chanel experience and are ready for a complex smell then just explore the No 5 range. I'd only recommend this version of Gabrielle to someone that loves No 5 and wants to try a more creamy and white flowery version of it.

LanaDelSlay

I have a sample of this, first spraying it, smells like white peach to me with white florals. it stays the same thruout, it's just one bland note, clean, like you cleaned your clothes with some kind of product. but it doesn't have depth or anything, it has calming vibes, spring, airy

Cvdwatson

I recently sold this bottle but kept Gabrielle Essence, which is more modern and more youthful. I prefer it's blend of white florals and fruit.

Endedal

I smell a lot of jasmine and that generic chanel perfume smell. Love the bottle but since I don't like jasmine it s a pass from me. Nice but doesn't pack a punch

Warning: I’ve never smelled a Chanel that I don’t like. Not because of the name, but because they’re all so chic and classy! I do, however, gripe about their performance. (Maybe they’re being classy and I’m just not.)

This reminds me of a classic aldehydic floral…but without the aldehydes, if that makes sense. Lots of floral notes, but not distinctly discernible, and that’s fine. Sometimes frags feel that way because they’re blended well. This is not that.

What it IS, is a delightful floral scent with LOTS of bright lemon, a smidge of black currant leaf, flowers with a light dusting of powder, sunny, and has plenty of charm. It’s a very strong like, as far as scent, itself, goes. I confess that it can be headache inducing. It sits verrrry close to the skin and lasts about 2 hours before I have to sniff for it. This is why I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

Not like Jour d’Hermes, perhaps more like J’adore. I can’t get along with powdery smell. This is my 2nd Chanel after Allure, and both have same issue. I thought this will be tangy like Hermes, glad i only take the decant.. This is lovely, I will be happy to smell this on other

haleykbhenry

Worth the price tag because even wearing it makes you feel Expensive ✨ It’s clean white florals with elegant citrus. Amazinggg for all occasions. Margot Robbie wears this one and this perfume is so elegant and timeless like her *sigh*

LilyDiStollo

Smells like drinking champagne feels. Bright, dry, fruity, little bubbles tickling your nose, and makes you feel rich.

jrvvv

I only smell soap on me and its too sharp - like headache sharp. The notes were more harmonious in my mind but it just didnt work for me

Enrium

Gabrielle is a competent but underwhelming creation. Featuring a sweet white floral heart enhanced by fruity and woody notes, it smells generic and unmemorable, but is elegant and easy to wear. It reminds me of J'Adore Dior in this regard - a safe crowdpleaser that lacks the wow factor.

Gabrielle opens with some bright citric freshness and a strong, juicy pear note that dominates for a little while, getting things off to a sweet start. Slightly soapy white florals bloom on my skin after a little while, clean and sweet. Jasmine and restrained tuberose are most evident, but I get some orange blossom later on. Pleasant, but run-of-the-mill.

It becomes woody and musky as it dries down, with the florals becoming more powdery and soft as it fades. The pear overstays its welcome, becoming musky and reminiscent of Chanel 1932 - one of my least favourite Exclusifs. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

An adequately composed perfume, but ultimately disappointing, Gabrielle really is too dull to warrant its inclusion in Chanel's mainstream fragrance lone-up. Still, a wearable, inoffensive feminine perfume for daily use. Meh. 3/5.

Alice Loves Fragrance

Absolutely beautiful white floral. Solar, bright, warm, creamy. I do not get all the hate about this fragrance. ALL Youtubers say the worst things imaginable about Gabrielle. But really, it is a nice, classy fragrance with a hint of vintage Chanel perfume, but so well projected into the modern world. Very versatile. Ether you are a lady-boss or a house-wife, young girl or experienced woman - you can rock Gabrielle day and night. Absolutely GOOD for a signature scent. The essense version is nice too, but it is a bit more fresh and floral. The original Gabrielle is more mature, "creamy", with a pinch of Chanel`s classic bitter grapefruit. I prefer Gabrielle over Essence. The longevity is very good for today`s Chanel perfumes. It lasts for fair 4-6 hours and elevates so well for the first 2. By the way, Gabrielle is the one and only white floral I actually love. Beautiful, beautiful fragrance. So sophisticated and calm.

astridkh3

Finally tried on my sample of this after smelling it on paper multiple times and loving it. Usually not a Chanel fan but this one smelled so fruity and powdery and clean, just wanted to try it before bed. Put it on and was immediately encompassed by a cocoon of soapy powdery floral and honestly loved it for the hour that I was awake with it on. However when I woke up… no longer a fan. Powdery soapyness was gone and I was left with an unappealing dry down of flowers. Couldn’t pinpoint what about it wasn’t sitting well but it seems to be a trend with me and Chanel’s. Love them for the first hour and then they change on dry down. Overall a decent perfume but not for me due to that dry down

Honestly, this smells so similar to what my mother would wear, in a good way. Of course. If it wasn't overpriced, I might buy it for her.

velvetsmile397

Oh my. What a pretty perfume. Has a gorgeous Chanel DNA. It reminds me of my lovely mother. Soft, pretty, classy, elegant. More of an intimate perfume. I wish the sillage was stronger so I’m not sure if I will buy a full bottle of this. A perfume for a nice day out whilst wearing jeans and a button down. It kind of reminds me of Chloe even though they do smell quite different. Softer than Chloe to me for sure. Longevity isn’t too bad, but it’s not a gourmand perfume that will last for ages.

ChelleBelle84

Wow! I’ve been reading some of the reviews here and some are extremely harsh and brutal. I suspect it has everything to do with preconceived notions and expectations. However, many here are not even THINKING!

When Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel was just a girl, before The House of Chanel came into being or she was called “Coco”, there were no fragrances like this. Women wore soliflores, mostly of rose. Any women caught wearing something like this? They would be labeled as “whores”. So yes, something like this would be “rebellious” if Gabrielle were to have worn it back then. Remember she said, “a woman doesn’t smell like flowers”. She had Ernest Beaux create a composition of the “scent of a woman” freshly bathed with the scent of her powder and cosmetics. This is where Chanel changed the rules in women’s fragrances. Likewise, this is a composition here that smells like what we (one hundred years later) think a good quality triple milled soap smells like. One that would be appropriate for anyone from a teenager on up to an adult of any age to wear daily. Nothing “oh la la, trés sexy”, “tooth-achingly sweet”, no “powdery grandma rose”, “industrial strength astringent cleaner” smell, or anything someone would find offensive unless you over spray it. Just a nice, classy, simple, fresh, semi-sweet, clean fragrance to be worn daily. That’s it. It does smell happy, as some others have said. So each morning it greets me with hope for a sunny, happy day ahead. It can lift your spirits. Btw, a little goes a long way and it does last all day. So, you do get your money’s worth here. If you have dry skin that eats fragrances, I suggest you use Vaseline or unscented lotion/moisturizer.

If you’re unsure about white florals, you may want to test before buying. Can be worn year round. I LOVE an everyday fragrance that can do that because I HATE to change my fragrance because it’s either too light to wear in cold weather or too heavy to wear in warm weather. I just like to have other fragrances to change things up a bit from time to time with what I’m doing. For instance, a sweet sandalwood fragrance at the ski lodge and a citrus floral at the beach house. This can go from day into night if going somewhere casual. If more formal, you can easily change your fragrance by layering it with something like N°5 Eau Première.

This is a love for me! I think for many, if they were to change their expectations and judge this for what it actually is, rather than for what they were expecting it to be, they would love it too. Not every fragrance made needs to be like something worn to a gala, nor is it appropriate to wear such a fragrance on a daily basis either. We need fragrances like this that are appropriate to wear in our daily lives. Then, when we do go to a gala and wear that type of fragrance, it will put us in the right mood, have us feeling wonderful, and won’t ever feel “ho-hum” because we have become so accustomed to it that we become indifferent to it.

Edit: Crazy as it sounds, this can actually start to smell like Chanel N°5 parfum on me. NOT the eau de parfum. The EDP is an olfactory assault on my senses, but the parfum is much nicer, sweeter, and more smooth. I got whiffs of it several times on me and thought, maybe I was crazy? So when a friend hugged me yesterday and said, “Oohhh, you’re wearing your N°5 and it always smells so good on you.” and I was actually wearing this, that confirmed it. Must be the ylang ylang in combination with the aldehydes (I swear, I do smell them here) jasmine, lily of the valley, orange flower, orris, and sandalwood doing that. It’s softer, not as powdery, and a bit fresher, but no denying that it smells like N°5. So, N°5 before there was the House of Chanel? Ok I can see that after experiencing this on my own skin.

violeteme

Yes, I get the resemblance with Jour d'Hermes. Only this is more warm, sweet and sunlit. There is a bit of that signature to Chanel soapiness. For some reason I am just not impressed. It smells to me like toned down Libre. And I am not amazed by these types of perfumes. I would take Jour d'Hermes instead. That one is more crisp and breezy. This one is more golden and sunny.

elleohelle

I should start by saying that my name is Gabrielle, so I thought it was cool that there was a perfume with my name on it and wanted a bottle no matter what it smelled like.

I first saw this as a commercial with Kristen Stewart. I was still obsessed with Twilight at this point (age 26), so I was interested in smelling the perfume if I came across it. I think I first smelled this at a counter in Macy's or JC Penney at the mall. I remember liking it, but I also remember it not being my favorite. Skipping forward a few years, my mom bought a cheap knockoff rollerball version of this from Amazon, and I used it frequently. I liked the way it smelled, even though it had that Chanel DNA I hated from No. 5 (disclaimer: the last time I smelled No. 5, I was a teenager. So I think that if I smelled it now in my thirties, I might like it more).

My mom came to visit recently and I was in the market for a new perfume because I had just been using Bath & Body Works mists for a while and wanted something more professional and expensive and... adult. We went to a fragrance store and I tested probably about 10 perfumes based on research I had done on Fragrantica - including Versace's "Bright Crystal" and Dior's "J'adore." Both were very pretty but I couldn't justify the price. I asked if they had Coco Mademoiselle and Gabrielle, which were both on my list, but unfortunately they didn't have testers of either. I knew a lot of people liked Mademoiselle but I didn't want to blind buy it without knowing what it smelled like, especially knowing I didn't like No. 5 as a youth. My husband convinced me to "blind" buy Gabrielle for the sole reason that it had my name on it and that I enjoyed it in the rollerball, so I bought the 35 mL bottle for around $90.

First spray smells like grapefruit but quickly changes to a musky floral. I can barely smell the black currant, which is good because even though I have never smelled real black currant before (since we don't grow it in the US anymore due to fungus), I read that it can have an ammoniac quality. Once that goes away, it becomes the white and yellow floral that it is advertised to be. I have never smelled each flower individually, so I couldn't tell you which flower is the strongest. I also kind of get the "pink pepper" note here, even though it isn't listed as a note on the official site. Hours later, you can still smell the musk and sandalwood, but mostly just a skin smell. To me, it's missing something. I feel like it's on the doorstep of a more fruity, sweet scent but refuses to knock on the door. Maybe that is what Gabrielle Essence is, but I won't know until I am able to test it.

I do wish the atomizer sprayed less or the bottle had a glass stopper because even though I like wearing it, too much liquid comes out of the bottle. I would rather not waste such a luxurious fragrance to evaporating and dissipating into the air around me. I also don't want a whole spray to go to one wrist, when I can use the same amount of perfume by dabbing it on my wrists, crook of my elbows, collarbones, and behind my ears. I know you're not "supposed" to rub your wrists together because it affects the notes so I would have to spray more - which makes me feel like I'm dousing myself in it and it becomes too strong. Unfortunately, Chanel stopped selling perfumes in bottles with glass stoppers and I don't want to damage the atomizer by attempting to remove it.

WildDove

Gabrielle gives an impression of a yellow floral with recognizable Chanel DNA for those who know the house well. I do get the cedar in the base of Gabrielle as it develops, but it's not overwhelming. Soft and lotion-like, sits close to the skin. Could make a good office or professional fragrance, or if you want something feminine, comfortable, and unobtrusive.

shewasgarbo

Gabrielle gets a bad rep - and I suppose I understand the sentiment behind it. After the release of Chance (and its many flankers), many were likely expecting something a blend that was just as, if not more, complex. Gabrielle is, indeed, conventional. The clean, powdery, citrus opening is one that I've smelled across many fragrances, but the profuse of white floral and yellow is what I thoroughly enjoy.

Gabrielle, as the name suggests, is a nod to a younger iteration of Coco Chanel (or Coco before she became Chanel). This fragrance, in my opinion, is intended for a younger woman. She is sophisticated, and mature, but perhaps a little green as she steps into society - the likes of No. 5 and Shalimar are too heavy for her. Gabrielle, on the other hand, is a perfect fit - a distinctively Chanel DNA, but without the baggage of maturity that the brand carries.

lucia.victoria.cirstea

Quite good, smells better in cold weather on my skin, rather than hot, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good summer perfume. It's just... different. I really like it and i consider buying it. Sometimes i can see why some people say it smells 45'ish but i can only sense that subtility in warm weather. All in all, a good perfume for a bride, or for a manager, a person who is confident, and full of life, but remains grounded, mature. Suitable for night, only in warm weather, when it gets humid.

Shmooksey

I'm not very good with distinguishing notes, but it's a very enjoyable fragrance if you typically stick to linear, skin-like, clean, fresh fragrances. I have been looking for something a bit warmer than my citrus aquatics that I wear in summer/spring, this is definitely warmer. I really liked it, safe, inoffensive, but yet with an identifiable 'scent'. It doesn't just 'smell nice', it definitely smells like you're wearing a perfume. It is flowery, but different to white florals, the yellow florals are almost sweet and warm. It has a lovely underlying sweetness to it, not nearly gourmand which I am appreciative of. Very nicely balanced overall, you get the feeling of each of the major note categories listed with this fragrance, one doesn't necessarily overpower the other. It feels appropriate for a young woman who wants something soft but noticeable for those close by.
Thankfully, It does not smell like an old person or even an exclusively mature fragrance (I'm twenty and it seems like everything I've tried is suited for late twenties+). I would definitely wear this, and would like to purchase it, but it is not quite what I am looking for right now. I see it is rated quite specifically for daytime fall, and I have to agree, it feels crisp and clean like spring but with the warmth you want into autumn.

Tinabill

Citrusy white floral.
The house of Chanel, to me, is the king of workday citrusy florals. They smell classy and professional and are well received by most people. Coco Mad. was my go to work fragrance but if for some reason you don’t want to wear Coco Mad. to work anymore like I sometimes do (e.g. you’re over it for now, a colleague uses it, you prefer yellow fresh citrus to sweet oranges, or cannot tolerate any dose of rose or patchouli) then this is a very good alternative. It is still classy and with quality ingredients.
With that said, I’d also like to add that it lacks novelty and is played quite safe.

Ferra_Verto

A clean-cut, crisp, fresh white floral with tart grapefruit and ylang, on a woody/musky base. Reminds me of J'adore, but moreso a very tailored and slightly more austere version. Very Chanel in that sense.
Perfect for spring and summer, good sillage, lasts around 5/6 hrs on me.

brettashley

White flowers and citrus over clean, well-blended sandalwood and cashmeran. Gabrielle is probably the easiest fragrance in my wardrobe to wear as I'm running out the door. I don't even offend Uber drivers as I dive into their car, newly doused. Gabrielle has that distinctive Chanel DNA, which smells classy and put-together, and since it's not No 5, it's not as easily recognizable. But it's also just not that interesting. I put it on because I love perfume, and I always want to be wearing perfume even when I'm not - really - wearing it. (It's my zero-thought, you'll-smell-nice-enough perfume.) Once I finish up the bottle (and it does come in a gorgeous gem of a flacon), I'll go back to my previous mainstay (and actual love), No 5 Eau Premiere.

malinka

Do you happen to have an olfactory deja vu? Like, you smell something and you go: I know this! possibly followed by astonishly vivid memories of your dates, travels, people, places etc? Sometimes it only takes you only halfway ("it smells almost like / close to..."), and sometimes it's the full blast of the past. Now this one took me about 15 years back towards my first bottle of EA Splendor, which I used to be a huge fan of. Cheap and a bit old fashion then charmed me with the white / blue flowers mix. It was perfect for any occasion, fresh, clean and elegant. Like having your nails, hair, skin and clothes clean and polished, so understandably I went through several bottles. And now I have the complete deja vu. Honestly, can't tell the difference, neither can my nose memory. Good job I tried it, coz I'd be rather cross if I reailsed I bought a 100E bottle that I could buy at 25E.

TillyWave

Gabrielle's strengths are also her downfalls. She's almost too well crafted, too floral, too perfectly predictable, too "designer." Chanel took a tried formula--citrus and fruit over white florals, with a woody musk base and just created a perfectly designed (designer? Lol.) scent that is so good it's easy to hate.

I mean if you dislike white florals that's fair--you're not going to like this. Gabrielle is so white the fragrance is practically blinding. I know that the top notes are voted heavily as grapefruit but honestly I mostly smell a bright, aldehydic/almost shampooish orange blossom with undertones of citrus rind. The white florals kind of weave on and off my skin in a circle--here's some serious bordering on shrill, high pitched jasmine, here's some rich gardenia, here is a hint of earthy tuberose. I really don't feel the ylang ylang so much but maybe that just lends to the brightness factor of it all. There is petigrain mixed in with the white flowers too, it smells like wood shavings floating in with all those white flowers. Gives everything a little bit of depth, I think. Best of all, over the long woody white floral heart, I smell just a hint of the blackcurrent, and though it's faint, it lasts for ages--perfectly tart berries with zero sugar, the best kind of "floral fruity."

I really like the drydown--the sandalwood and cashmerean really meld together, and the sandalwood smells...really solid. Not javenol, not laminate floor sandalwood, but whatever they are using is smells like real sandalwood. The white florals are still there but instead of smelling like anything individual it smells like white flower petals on sandalwood, cashmeran, and hint of musk, which is a lovely way to end things.

Gabrielle has fantastic lasting power on me, all day long most days, and I wouldn't dare to spray too much because the sillage can be a bit much. So that part is well made too--a days worth of perfume out of a few sprays is almost rare in my book.

realitygreene

Hmmmm I like this. I've wanted to try Gabrielle and Gabrielle Essence for awhile now since I've heard a few Youtubers rave about both and say they are underrated. I still need to try Essence, so this review is just for the original Gabrielle.

I really like this scent - it's a soapy, citrusy white floral fragrance and it smells good on my skin. I don't think I would be as impressed if Gabrielle wasn't a Chanel frag - mostly because it would then not have the unmistakable Chanel DNA (the aldehydic citrus floral blend), and there is just something about Chanel that is classy and elegant. I am under the Chanel-spell for sure. I fully admit. That's okay, though, because Gabrielle is really pretty. It's the kind of fragrance for the woman (or man) that enjoys elegant aldehydes, even though there is no aldehyde note listed, Gabrielle definitely gives off that clean soapy smell.

I definitely want to try Gabrielle Essence now and decide which I like more. I don't know for sure that I would buy one from this line because I think I need to use my sample more. I look forward to testing out this lovely fragrance more this spring.

LilyRose1

I’ve had this fragrance for years now and I’ve barely used it. It’s not that I don’t like it but for me, this only blooms in spring/summer and there’s something in this that is a bit screechy for me. BUT, there’s times when I put this on and I love it. It’s like it’s growing on me but then I forget it and we start all over again. It’s kind of soapy, clean, fresh with added white flowers. I don’t think the younger audience would like this. This to me is an elegant woman with pretty hair, her nails are well manicured, and she wear clothes that she has picked out very carefully but makes it look effortless. She smells clean, and elegant and is a very nice person.
On me this lasts and projects quite well, nothing to complain there. I love the bottle, it’s simple and pretty.

I need to recommend a layering combo that just lifts this perfume for me to the next level. I found it by accident today when I had Juicy Couture Viva La juicy on (I know this is the opposite of the spectrum lol) and I got the impulse to just spray some Gabrielle on top. And wow, it’s magic. VLJ gives it a bit of sweetness and rounds it out a little. The combination makes me happy, it’s uplifting. I think of a sunny, spring day when you feel the first rays of sun warm your skin and it’s a bit too hot to wear a jacket. That kind of happiness.
I did sprinkle a little bit of Solinotes Vanille on top but it’s not necessary, I just love vanilla. This combo will be my go to this spring and summer. I’m totally obsessed and can’t stop sniffing my arm. If you have these fragrances, try it and thank me later :)

heatshimmr

Not my type at all. Smells like soap. Smells like something my mom would wear.

you_love_gabrielle

I got this fragrance simply because of my name being Gabrielle. I figured even if I didn’t like it, I want it in my collection. But I was pleasantly surprised. This is definitely different and not a safe blind buy, but on my skin it is beautiful. Definitely a warm cozy winter fragrance. I get mostly the Jasmine here and it’s beautifully done.

Sannesans

When Gabrielle was released in 2017 I tested it from a sample I got. I wasn't too impressed. Made me think of Jour d'Hermes in the drydown too much. Jour for me was too creamy. So I let it go and didn't think much about it. Only a couple months later I tried Gabrielle again and as to my surprise is was sooooo good. Not too sweet, very different, chic and getting away from the Coco Mad, Poison, LVEB sweetness. I love mostly all the Chanels. Not so fond of gourmands and too sweet vanillic fragrances.
This drydown is incredible: so musky and feminine, on the fresh side and so delicate. Yet it has a warm side in the drydown and not too sweet.
I finshed my 50ml bottle and got a 100 ml one for xmas last year. Really one of my all time favourite scents that gets me a lot of compliments.
It’s perfect for this spring season but I wear it year round! A big love.

Perfumepusher

I thought it was light but it's actually a strong floral with some fruits on my skin. I like it a lot and it's very Chanel to me. I just got it as a gift from my partner after rambling about it for a week. ;) I prefer the original Gabrielle over the Essence version since I find the OG to be more of an original smell. I strongly recommend this as a spring perfume, it feels so sunny and uplifting.

pescadofish

The top notes have a very sharp soapy, separate presence on my skin. The dry down is a little better, but at this price point, I want to love it from start to finish.

my2scentsmore

Smells cheap and sours on my skin. I have a similar problem with My Burberry. They just do not mix with my chemistry.

AleshaA

light airy gorgeous my partner bought this for me when it was first launched, beautiful gift, instantly loved the notes excellent for spring and summer months, does sit close to the skin after the initial spray or two, easy to wear everyday scent I would repurchase this always love love love :))

alanochka

Sophisticated and classic/nostalgic. Smells slightly like insect repellant but in a pleasant way

Kizzyb93

Update: So today I bought my bottle I think this could be my favourite fragrance out of the whole of my collection it so uplifting and I seem to love it more than when I tried my first sample a few days ago I think I may have found my new signature . I don’t think I’ve been so drawn to a fragrance like I have this, the smell just makes me 😊
it’s like a blast of happiness without being too overpowering (Bare in mind I do usually like strong scents)
This is just so different to what I thought I liked. After a minute 12 hours of owning the bottle I can say this fragrance will be the one I reach for the most

Kizzyb93

I managed to get a small sample of this before Xmas and just today I reached for it and if I’m honest I was not expecting much purely based on the notes .
The moment I sprayed it My opinion was “ hmmm mehhh” but about ten seconds later I got a beautiful bright fresh and slightly boozy vibe, and the longer it was on my skin I liked it more and more . Wil definitely be buying a full bottle in the next few days !

Piscean-Blue

Gabrielle is an interesting boozy citrusy jasmine situation, heavy on the grapefruit. It's okay. I dunno... I was expecting something more. It does have a decent amount of weight to it though; doesn't come across as cheap.

Pretty good, but forgettable. Nothing to write home about.

Megajones

While I think Gabrielle is (rightfully) outshined by her younger sister Gabrielle Essence, I dont think she should be completely overlooked. She’s bright, sunny, warm, and friendly. Ive noticed it lingers in my bedroom room after I’ve sprayed it and makes the air cozy yet fresh (perhaps they should make a room spray… actually they definitely should). I imagine the wearer to be a youthful, kind person, someone you look forward to seeing and who doesn’t wear you out. In many ways its similar to the Essence, only it doesn’t give me that inexplicable urge to hug something the way the Essence does. The longevity is a little disappointing tho, especially for an EDP. After about 2-3 hours I really only smell it when I press my nose to my clothes or skin. The sillage isn’t very wide even when first applied but I personally prefer that. I’d rather just the person right next to me be able to smell it than overpowering a whole room.

brokesta911

Chanel Gabrielle (2017) - sparkling jewel - #olivierpolge ‘s creation starts with a blast of Grapefruit, Mandarin Oranges and Orange Blossom. Though it’s marketed as 4 white florals, I sense more Lily of the Valley as the star with more indolic florals Jasmine, Ylang, and Tuberose quietly in the background. Its base has Pink Pepper, Musks, Sandalwood and Pear which goes technically well with the white floral accord to give some body and smoothen it out.

Themonkboughtlunch

Unfortunately this makes me smell like my ex boyfriend's mother who has passed away. She wore clinique aromatics elixir and baby powder and for some reason occasionally I get a whiff of that and it's kind of comforting but I wouldn't want to smell like this regularly because it seems a little old for me.

Sunkissed

I finally tried this after being the owner of my beloved Essence for a few months and I have to say... I really like it. I completely understand when people say it doesn't have a strong personality as other Chanel fragrances. It really doesn't. It's a light and pretty white floral... But a Chanel and therefore too expensive to be just another pretty white floral.
However, while people who are experienced with perfumes can certainly find this boring, I'm sure any "uninitiated" lady would like to receive this as a gift. It's classy, light, gentle and office friendly.
Maybe it's a bit too grapefruity for me, but I need to test it again in the future. Probably not purchase worthy because I own Essence, but I'd wear it if gifted a bottle.

sisina96rv

Love at first sniff! This was the few of the Chanels, that spoke to me. I can't describe it. I love all the listed notes, so I am lucky that they met in one perfume. There is a mild resemblance with Dior J'adore. Gabrielle Essence is more Dior J'adore. What I don't like, is the projection and the longevity. I barely feel it, so I sprayed more and more... and now I've got a headache 😕 WHY ???
Anyway. I find the perfume very elegant and feminine. I think it is suitable even for younger ladies. If you are in your 20-s, you can wear it boldly.

coffeefifofum

Dried down to a lump of baby powder with a very faint, generic "perfumy" scent. Gave me a headache. Hard pass.

Phippygrl

Normally, I love a perfume that dries down musky/warm. I don't have a tendency toward florals. However, I have become intensely infatuated with with Chanel's Gabrielle Essence. I just ordered the hair mist, body lotion, and body creme. I will be trying them tonight and so excited. I'm thinking of ordering the EDP. So complex and feminine. I wish the Essence lasted longer so I'm hoping the layering will help with this and I'm eager to see how the lotion/creme/hair mist blend together for a feminine 'plume.' I'm in love.

Aprettygarden2

It’s got Chanel DNA. I was working as a Chanel counter manager in an undisclosed retail store and I remember working the door spritzing this on patrons and all I could think was “this is basic” it’s pretty, but generic. Nothing spectacular.

lady_ireth264

Tried this at a perfume store.
Forgettable unfortunately in my opinion.
But I'd like to try the Essence version.

vrinsun

Generic white floral scent 🤷♀️ With a touch of Chanel of course
It is a beautiful scent, but it’s just not unique at all for me..

PerfumeDoll

Smelled this for the first time yesterday and wore it for the rest of the day shopping, it was lovely.

IsSheNotFragrant

An unmemorable and characterless bit of synthetic floral froth from Chanel. Lifeless, anemic and bland. If we wish to smell like shower gel or shampoo, fine, but we dont need to pay 90 bucks to do so. The perfect olfactory articulation of the word 'meh'.

fragaholic79

Chanel Gabrielle has been nothing less than a journey for me. I first tested it when it was just released and found it generic and boring. Not bad but not that interesting either. Maybe it was all the hype built around its bottle and packaging. That it took five years to design it. Or maybe it was the cold gloomy UK autumn that didn’t give the notes to fully bloom. Anyway a year later I reached out for it, this time in a much warmer weather and it completely won me over.
A sparkling, vibrant orange blossom and grapefruit with a hint of creaminess from the sandalwood at the dry down.
A safe, inoffensive, happy fragrance that I don’t mind reaching out for again and again.

sherryberry

Stillmagnolia, I love your reference to Vince Gill...that was great!! And just so you know, I'm a big fan of both Gabrielle and Vince Gill. Vince is an American treasure!!

SheTurtle

it is inoffensive, in that Chanel sort of way. It would probably be one of those "entry" perfumes that a teenager might want to have once she is past the "fruit salad" stage.

It is all right, but not a grownup's perfume. I wear this from time to time. Just not my favorite.

So very beautiful, elegant!
Scent very much like Dahlia DIvin perfume with just a tiny bit more citrus. Fresh, put on your white shirt and pumps and go. It has its own character, but is not overworldy. Safe, on the go, crisp, no fuss. I can even see a young man being easily able to pull this one off. A staple. This scent, however lacks longevity and stays a skin-scent on mine throughout, I cannot smell it on my neck, and it does not radiate from pulse-points either, even when oversprayed, It is that subtle. I cannnot understand the pricepoint for it as it behaves like a very weak EDT rather than a perfume. Shame as it is beautiful.

KladfvbungMicshk

I don’t understand the hate for this at all. The moment I smelled it, I felt it was a classic, on the same level as Chance and Coco Mademoiselle.

Did we need a new fragrance like this? Maybe not, we already have a lot of Chanel classics, but I love the variety. Gabrielle reminds me a lot of Chance- but while Chance leans slightly masculine and woody, this one is softer, more traditionally feminine-floral, and soapy. It dries down to a beautiful white musk on my skin. I feel like I could wear Chance one day and Gabrielle the next, depending on my mood, and they transition very well with each other.

It’s a timeless kind of scent. It’s not trying to be niche and it’s not trying to push the envelope in originality. It’s paying homage to classic Chanel, and doing it very very well for a new fragrance. And for that achievement I applaud the creator for this.

safira.naila

for me, this perfume is very sweet and soft at times
but at times it's strong and makes me feel heady

but overall think it's not for me

It opens with a very strong jasmine, and seems sweet maybe from the blackcurrant
BUT! if I spray it too strongly on one area of my body, seems like the tuberose and white floral overall getting too strong it makes me dizzy

overall, I think this fragrance is very suitable for summer and spring, and if you spray it the right way it will be very soft and sweet

Harold-Meissner

Beautiful creamy floral with an ivory soap sharpness. This is too strong for me and a headache.

adelaidesandrina

To me this smells like christmas, probably because i bought it during the holidays but actually it’s more than that.

It’s such a happy scent. There’s something about this that just enlightens me. The nostalgia makes it even better! The liquid itself is gold, and it embodies blue skies and golden sunshine (thanks david lynch LOL). Anyways jokes aside, i mean that :)

I smell lots of citrus, some fruits here and there.. the florals i do smell it quite well to. Another prominent note to me is the pink pepper.. gives it a slighty spicy kick.

It does smell similar to j’adore and my burberry, but those two in my opinion are slightly more dense compared to gabrielle. Gabrielle’s like the more “youthful” sister, she’s just less mature to my nose.

Sillage and longevity is not as bad as some of the reviews have mentioned. I love gabrielle, and i just might get the essence :)

Stillmagnolia

I can’t help but wonder if some of the negative reviews are an expectations thing. Personally, i don’t pay much heed to marketing blather, nor frankly, bottle styles. I don’t have a display area, so that doesn’t matter to me.
And I absolutely don’t care for Kristen Stewart, let alone think of her in any idealized fashion.
I wear a lot of Serge Lutens. I’m accustomed to loquacious ramblings that may or may not seem related to an actual fragrance. I gloss over all that.

I was a little suspicious of the notes, as I don’t much care for fruity scents nor heavy sweet or big orris.

So for me - expectations were just kinda cautious. Silly me. I should have known none of those notes would scream.
I think it’s absolutely divine. It’s serves a category, yes - not every category. I see it as sort of on a separate but parallel track of No. 5. And yes, it’s not heavy or terribly “fascinating” in an overt way, but I find the most elusive and sophisticated feats to often be those that are lighter, balanced, and yet still tenacious.
How many light or sheer scents have we all smelled that fall absolutely flat? This functions as light but has the craft, sophistication, and enjoyment of much “heavier “ scents.

How does something so soft still have such a delicious and yummy yet naturally-sweet incense-y smell? I am drawn to tuberose scents, so I may be partial, but it’s not like I smell literal tuberose, it’s more like it just sings in the chorus to add it’s gorgeous fingerprint. It’s like when Vince Gill plays in the house band. No screaming divas, but a house band full of seasoned professionals.

I feel like I could wear this nearly anywhere and at any time, and yet still enjoy the heck out of it and notice it. That may sound bland, but I don’t live in a private home on a spacious street. I’m in a small elevator every.single.day. And I go to the dr a lot.
I just can’t always wear a Poison or a Guerlain. Period.

This is gorgeous, and timeless.

unisex joyful sunny fruity-floral-creamy scent ......not for youngsters .....

I got a miniature of Jour d'Hermes (and poured it into a spray bottle) just so I could compare it to Gabrielle, which I love, with the hope that Jour would be similar enough for me to buy instead of the much more expensive Gabrielle. Well, they're not at all similar to me, and my nose is really not that refined.

The opening of Jour smells *almost* like Gabrielle for maybe half a second, then goes immediately to creamy floral zone. The reason I love Gabrielle is that citrus explosion, that bitter and obnoxious grapefruit that's present throughout the entire wear-time. I don't get that in Jour. Jour is instead creamy-dreamy, elegant and tasteful.

It might seem like I'm praising Jour, but I really much prefer Gabrielle. I love a bit of sass in my fragrances, something that will make me go "oh god, this is terrible, I LOVE it!". Gabrielle has just that. In comparison, Jour is almost too bland, too "correct", too appealing. It's loved by everybody, but lacks character. I'm not saying that Gabrielle isn't elegant, it definitely is, but it has just that something that hints at the mischievous character of the wearer. It's almost like that saying- "lady in the streets, freak in the sheets". Gabrielle likes a bit of kink, Jour only ever does the missionary.

Zethre

Strong, rather overwhelming even from one spray, citrus and citrusy floral jasmine, with a touch of woods coming in after a few minutes.
Something rather cloying, like lemon furniture polish, and a similarity to a number of other perfumes released at about the same time.
Nothing overtly wrong with it, but it's hard to like.

Not as good as anything in their Exclusifs range

xpetra82

Gabrielle is my happy perfume... i wear it at work almost all year round(i am a painting teacher). She has Chanel magic and she is inoffencive. I love her.

pince_nez

Though composed of top-notch raw materiel, this floral/ woody/ musk fragrance is not substantially different from most of the Chanel line up. Excellent advertisement to go with it when it first came out, sleek - modern - soigne.
The juice unfortunately is a mild disappointment. It is not ground breaking, though it smells pretty. Opens with a bright zing from citrus and aldehydes, then segues into its heart of white florals, after which it rests, ever so gently on a base of sandalwood and musks.
But then again, so does the great No. 5!
If nothing else, I consider this new one a variant and iteration of the classic No. 5. Get that one instead!

For younger women slowly being eased into the hauteur of Chanel.

Unlike other Chanel perfumes, i feel this one is all over the place. Its not bad but im not fond of the smell.

lilliankim98

Fresh and invigorating. I got this for my mom, and she really liked it. Even though it smells bright, something about it makes it feel better suited for more mature women. I could see someone younger wearing it too, but it's a little more difficult for me (early 20's) to pull off.

I can really smell the grapefruit and blackcurrant, which then yields to a smoother blend of white florals (none too indolic). The pear keeps it fresh in the middle notes. Then, it settles into a more musky floral scent in the drydown, carrying some of the fruitiness to the end. This could be different for everyone, but the blackcurrant lasts until the end on my skin. Very classic Chanel in its formulation.

carlahoffman

Just lovey with a bright juicy burst of fruity notes of grapefruit and orange that is a perfect scent for spring and summer. Not sure why so many others seem to dislike this perfume. I love it, it's so classy and rich in scent that projects nicely and last all day long.

The heart with its floral notes are so pretty and quite alluring, with the classic Chanel dry down. I feel it a pretty, sexy, warm feminine scent that one would expect from the House of Chanel. Ideal for day or at night wear, while relaxing in jeans or dressing up for a date.

Approved by my husband, friends and myself. I will buy again for it's really good. I really enjoy when I'am walking and the winds blows whiffs of the scent to my nose very intoxicating. Leaves a lovely trail for others to enjoy.

EllaDe7

Very nice and I like it more than Essence. Essence is better for a night time, lovely too.
But Gabrielle EDT is perfect, light, clean and very complex. Smells expensive though cheaper than Creed or Muguet Guerlain. Not a strictly floral but in a nice company with citruses for a summer, pleasant smell.
It has a good silage and lasts ... like all Chanel.

milkyjoa

Like most Chanel fragrances, this is very potent. When I realized I didn't like it, I couldn't even get the smell off with Dawn dish soap. Here's the thing--Gabrielle smells very old. I don't mean mature or old lady-ish, but it smells very dusty and a bit sour like perfume gone off. If you've ever been through your mom/aunt/grandma's decades old perfume collection, just be aware that this one would fit right in with all those ancient orange-hued juices. Gabrielle Essence is way better to my nose.

americanablonde

While I enjoy the scent of this perfume, I was expecting something...more. This is a very nice, light, floral perfume, that has a more modern Chanel smell, but this didn't really "wow" me. The scent sits close to my skin, and I think, for being Chanel, the longevity could be better. It only lasts on me for about 2 or 3 hours.

It's also so light that I can't really pick up any notes besides the orange and white florals. In my opinion, I don't think this perfume is really worth it. I'd be excited to get it as a gift, but I wouldn't buy a bottle myself. I think Gabrielle Essence is the better buy (though the scent is a bit different - more peachy and creamier than Gabrielle).

mirenaf

I expected so much more from Chanel. Such a frustrating perfume. When it came out I received it as a gift and since then I can't explain how they may have made this perfume ... For me it is an absolute failure for the brand. Weak perfume, nothing interesting and special. Chanel so rarely makes a completely new perfume, not another version of one of the existing ones ... I thought it would be a unique and unrepeatable fragrance, and what I got was a boring, mainstream, terribly ordinary and even unbearable perfume for me. I never wear it ... Probably a lot of people like it, but I just can't explain this turn to Chanel and I'm really disappointed...

Rachelitaheart

Smells classic, beautiful, and non offensive. It is fresh and borderline unisex, which I appreciate. Sillage is decent but longevity could be longer. Lasts for about 3-4 hours on my skin.

Dimitris.G.

Well blended white floral creation but I would see this as an Jadore flanker... 🙄

frangiris

It is fine in the opening, but in the middle part I get a note that is bothering me. Maybe the orange blossom? It starts to smell white floral in a way that is a bit too unrealistic to my taste. But different strokes for different folks!

noseinheaven

I love this perfume but it doesn’t last. So glad they came out with the essence version. Gabrielle Essence lasts much longer. I wear both together. Understated, sparkling, classy, beautiful. A wonderful fragrance for daytime, can wear everyday.
Many compliments. Mom liked it so much I got her one for Christmas. Now I’m looking for a new favorite fragrance for myself! haha

Callista25

Sparkly bright opening...only to change into a generic sugar floral within the first 10 min. A real shame. At least we have the Exclusifs.

nordhaul

I hit dislike but I don’t ACTUALLY dislike this,
per say. It’s just that I can’t hit OK since it is
absolutely not 😑. There is zero distinction
from anything else out there. Zero. This is
Chanel Mademoiselle, Allure, Miss Dior, Joy
by Dior, J’Adore, Chance, & I like CC fumes.
It’s Wildfox too. And Black Opium but no at
Least BO has A LITTLE distinction with that
thrown in little coffee note. This has nothing.

Olfactory_Jules

So... I can´t stick with one perfume for a longer time. I just can´t. And somehow, finally, I am coming back to this one, and the essence.
I like the sharpness in this one, the citrusy opening. After one or two hours, it just smells classy, fresh, and youthful at the same time. Honestly, I am happy that this has so bad rating, because I don´t smell so many others with it.
I like to have both this and essence, depending on the weather and my mood. Essence is deeper and last longer, so I would assume this one fits better for warmer weather.

bettybee983

I have been wearing this off and on since it’s release and I’ve gone from indifference to ambivalence to absolute adoration. I think I was anosmic to some of its depth before; I think a lot of people may be. It is both rich and light, sweet and earthy, elegant and relaxed. It’s gorgeous.

mustrange

I love Chanel , but this one for me is a jeans and T-shirt kind of fragrance. Nothing special about it, although I enjoy graprefuit so much - and this one is a beautiful graprefuit, bitter, juicy, bright- I tend to get some cosmetics vibes from yellow flowers, with a few great exceptions, like Sunflowers by EA. A classy hand cream or hair spray would be gourgeous in this scent. I just don't think is worthy to spend a lot of money on something so "common". Sillage 1 hour. Longevity: 3 hours +.

veronique

Tolkashutka

Fell in love with this a year (or two?) ago at a Chanel counter, and received it a few weeks ago as a gift from my partner.

Although the longevity on me isn’t great (2-3 hours), I really am a fan of the grapefruit and musk notes, as those are two things I wouldn’t have thought to put together. The other thing I really enjoyed is that the scent stayed pretty much the same (“stayed linear”?) while wearing it--that is to say, it didn’t morph into something completely different after the drydown. Some fragrances open up with off putting notes and then drydown to something better, but I am glad that this stayed the same on me the entire time.

The longevity to price tag ratio isn’t great, and I would have struggled justifying buying this for myself. Since it was a gift, I will enjoy my grapefruit musk with little to no guilt. :)

pipergirl

I absolutely love Gabrielle for being a relaxed, sunny, effortlessly elegant, well composed and versatile go to scent. You can wear Gabrielle to a summer wedding, to the office or out grocery shopping. While Gabrielle could easily be worn year round I think that it is really at it's most beautiful in the warmer weather, it stands up to the heat and humidity and radiates off of warm skin without ever being too much. Piyux has done a masterful job describing the scent of Gabrielle below. It's easy to wear, has no difficult stages or notes to work through, it smells so nice. Love it.

Chanel Gabrielle EDP opens with a moderate projection of very sweet, citrus, fruity, and white florals. The opening is delicious, fresh, inviting, and very pleasant. The citruses and black currant create a sour, sweet, and intense; the berry, fruity, tangy, green, slightly ammoniac nature of the black currant, enhance the notes creating a great opening. The florals are fantastic, the combination of white, sweet jasmine and orange blossom, the strong, white floral, dense, and sweet tuberose, and the floral, fruity, sweet, creamy, and slightly musky notes of the ylang-ylang, create a unique scent. The ylang-ylang has a noticeable fruity accord, a hint of banana and peach, which join with a faint sweet and delicious pear note making the fragrance feel delicious. Towards the dry down, the musk becomes a noticeable accord, mild powdery, fresh, inoffensive but projecting. The sandalwood makes the fragrance creamy and sweet, and the cashmeran adds a light woody touch. The fragrance has a linear evolution with a few changes, the opening favors citruses (mandarin orange, grapefruit), fruity (black currant, pear), and sweet notes; the dry down but adds white florals (jasmine, orange blossom, tuberose), and yellow floral ylang-ylang, sweet woody sandalwood, and musky accords. Once Chanel Gabrielle EDP has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, sweet, jasmine, ylang-ylang, tuberose, fruity, musky, and sandalwood fragrance with citrus, and woody accords. The fragrance feels casual, comforting, cozy, creamy, delectable, delicious, dense, diurnal, dry, elegant, feminine, fine, floral, fresh, fruity, high-quality, inviting, mild, modern, musky, natural, nicely-blended, playful, rich, romantic, seductive, sweet, woody, and very pleasant.

Tried this on a card today and it really does smell just like J’adore. Pleasant of course, but not amazing in the way Chanel usually is.

soumayaela

Well what's going on with Dior and Chanel and their new releases 😱
Joy by Dior and now Gabrielle by Chanel!!
Biiiiiiig flops
When Joy is so bad at performance, has no staying power and lacks personality! Well at least it's feminine and delicate!
BUT This one what can i say! Smells like supermarket cologne that comes in biiiiig bottles just citrussy and fresh 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I don't understand this fragrance and can't imagine the women or the girl wearing this!
It reminds me a little bit of chanel chance (the green one) but lacks personality and power

5/10 don't see the point of buying it

I can understand when you make masterpieces and classics it's really hard to reniew the brand image since everyone is expecting so much from you

Annamari83

My first Chanel perfume. I have to admit, that it seems to be my next signature scent. It’s merry, glowy, sparky, happy yellowish, nothing too strong, nothing too much, it’s sillage just won’t hide you, just enhances the smell of your skin, while makes you ‘ready to face it all’. It’s strength is not visible.
The so-called-Chanel-experts are feeling mad because it is not as ‘superluxurious’ as they expected it to be, but only because they were mistaken the meaning of luxury as something superfancy, supervisible, supersillaged, superoversomething...
I’m pretty sure that Chanel is luxury itself, just as Gabrielle, in a sofisticated way.

AnotherDabbler

I really love the grapefruit here, from the start it's both bitter and sour and unmistakably a yellow one (not the sweeter pink grapefruit).
Everything else (especially the white floral notes) is a bit generic though. In a way there were already hints of the same scents in Chance and its flankers, and also in Cristalle and Coco Mademoiselle. This one has that lovely grapefruit though, but then that's also its only distinctive feature.

I actually don't like most Chanel fragrances but this one and the other citrusy ones are fine (if way overpriced) to me. So I get that the Chanel fan club mostly dislikes it, as it seems to be atypical for the brand.

Ronisbliss917

I want so much to love this, it was a gift from my husband but it's so strong at first spray, it's overpowering. I am learning that I do not like white floral if that is what I am smelling. I am usually very tolerant of fragrance but this gives me a headache when I am alone in a room with it on. To me, it smells like a room full of women with too much of a bad perfume on, perhaps a room full of mature women that fill the church on Sunday. It also reminds me of the perfume my grandmother used to buy from Avon, so I guess it smells like a cheap perfume. Like not much thought was put into it, or too much of the white floral which is what is making it so strong. It doesn't really smell like any flower I can think of, very perfumey for lack of a better word. Not remarkable at all, in fact very forgettable. I guess it has its audience, but this is not a scent I would like to smell all day. I will hold onto it and try it again at a later time, perhaps my opinion will change.

TerrCasey

I don't know what happened... I tried this perfume two years ago and instantly fell in love. I tried it again a month ago and it was a complete disappointment. It's so unforgettable, general and lacking identity. It was gone within 20 minutes - I tried to smell the tester after leaving the store and there was nothing left. I'm so puzzled! Perhaps what I initially tested was the Essence because I can't believe my preferences changed this drastically. It's almost like I smelled two different perfume!
Either way, for EDP - I do not recommend. Nothing new, nothing noticeable, nothing long-lasting. Definitely not worth the price.

EDIT: It was the essence after all! Got my hands on a sample and now Gabrielle Essence is on my "to buy" list. Much more defined, interesting scent and it keeps on the skin for longer.

MagdalenaM

first of all the bottle is goddamn gorgeous. stunning. i agree the opening is a bit tangy, but it dries down to a perfectly nice fragrance, it's classy, i think it could work as a signature scent, has that chanel feel to it, but it's a lot less intense then 5 for example. i like to wear it overall, even if it's not my favorite, it makes me feel clean and classy. I understand why people tend to be underwhelmed, its not a very interesting scent, lacks somewhat in personality, but its far from bad.
Edit: I have decanted some of it for a friend and she sprayed some right away. After about two hours we were sitting in a cafe and I could not stop thinking that something smelled soooo good. Insanely good! I mentioned it and she went - It's that perfume you gave me!
Found it a bit shocking. I don't know what it was because I never taught it was THAT good, but that smelled amazing - and I have a spoiled nose.

ilgattopardo

bottle design five years in the making? admirable, but the juice itself does not make an impression that the same level of thought and care went into formula or maybe got confused and lost track of what it aims to express; it is quite simply very much nondescript, an olfactory equivalent of elevator music; posh elevator in a luxury hotel, mind you; some compositions I can recreate in my mind years after, some I hate but at least they are fascinating and expressive despite their flaws, might be polarising, but this one is hard to piece together the next day; I wonder what was the idea for it, as the greatest sin is to evoke no emotions at all, but be pleasantly forgettable and charmingly inoffensive with use of precious ingredients

sakura28

I love this fragrance. At it's dry down it's just lovely, opening notes don't do it justice.

At first it smells like fancy citrus, slightly bitter if you smell really close and hard. The opening is meh, nothing to be excited about. and I can see people not getting past it and giving it a proper chance.

Once it's settled and at the drying down part of the journey, on my skin, it smells like fresh warm fabric softening sheets. Smells yummy and warm. But still fancy and clean. Sophisticated and not trying too hard. This is what I enjoy. I never read the notes until now, I think it's the sandalwood, musk I'm enjoying, but I'm not sure exactly, since some of the base notes arnt common. Btw I dislike blackcurrant and I don't really get that note on my skin.

This is not one to just smell on paper, I recommend skin, and wearing it for the day to see how it does with your chemistry.

The vibe is chic, clean, sophisticated, type-A personality.

For reference, this and chance Frache are the only perfumes I enjoy from chanel for my skin so far. I used to work next to a chanel counter a few years ago and extensively spent alot of time experimenting their scents for fun and bordom. Unfortunately their other ones would turn dirty or too sweet on my skin after a couple of hours. But they would smell great on others. It's been a few years, I should revisit them and see if my chemistry or nose has changed.

Just because some of us dont end up enjoying certain perfumes, doesnt make us perfume review trolls, as someone has put it. Other reviewers are purely expressing an opinion.

So Gabrielle. Firstly, I love Chanel, most of my favourite perfumes are Chanels. However, some I love, some I dont (Allure for example, is really unpleasant to wear, for me personally). Beige, same! Even No.22 never did it for me (too many aldehydes). But I do try to respect each perfume for what it is.

Gabrielle is a strong sharp fruity floral, smelling very 1990's/2000 to me. It isnt unpleasant. I wouldnt mind being stuck on a bus next to someone wearing this.

I was hit with aldehydes, mix of mandarin and grapefruit, pepper, jasmine, musk and a pile of fruit. I can almost taste this perfume, it has made its way beyond my nostrils. LOTV, yes. Tuberose? This confuses me. If it is the creamy white flower in there that I cannot identify? I cannot smell ylang ylang for the life of me, my nose has been assaulted by what must be Cashmeran. But I can smell some kind of yellow pollen. Nor orris.
Does it have some kind of calone in it (the melon note in allure sensuelle). OK, I like Allure Sensuelle, I can be contrary too if i want to.
All I can smell as it dries down are huge "white" flowers in a bowl of unidentifiable slightly spicey, slighty acqueous (melonny) fruit.

This is sadly a disappointment for me. I havent read many reviews. I smelt it on a lady I know, a few years back. She is crisp, businesslike, blond, assertive. Doesnt mince her words. Exuding "strong, positive persona" but you know underneath, she is just like the rest of us. She normally wears Coco and Gucci Rush, which I think suit her far better. This smelt very soft on her, pleasant, but just nondescript. I was surprised it was a Chanel. And more surpised she chose to wear it. So I asked her why she chose it. AHAA! Her husband bought it for her.
Who were Olivier Polge and team Chanel aiming at I wonder??? Unwitting husbands, who cant wait to get away fast enough from the lady counter, with a purchase in their sweating palms, for their wives 50th tomorrow? Huge sweeping generalisation! I know. haha.

I cant go into perfumes smelling "dated" as I have no way of backing up that concept! But some "vintages" stand the test of time. Others, I dont think they do. This smells of a vintage that didnt stand the test of time. Already.

Given the grand name and their Chance (pun!) to make a statement with a modern concept that evoked what the woman behind the label stood for, all that Chanel seem to have done was choose a smell that to my nose, evokes very little about Chanel the brand (OK, it is a mash up of allure, chance and whatnot), but this smells NOTHING like the sophisticated and groundbreaking perfumes that were launched during her reign and are still going strong to this day.

So yes, I sit here disappointed. I normally love fragrances everyone seems to dislike (I just saw all the dislikes! yikes). If I wanted to smells like this, there are plenty of perfumes already to choose from of similar quality and scent (not Chanel).

If I were to guess in my head a "Gabrielle" perfume by Chanel, it would smell like the antithesis of this. But I am glad I have finally tried it (kind seller sent it with my purchase of an unopened 1970's No.19 extrait purse spray!), which I know i am going to enjoy a squillion times more than poor Gabrielle.

nitschevo

So... This is nice. Well groomed, fresh, floral. Bit different than the rest of The Chanel fragrances but that's not a bad thing. I mean Chance and Coco M were also kind of "unusual" before they basically, among No 5, became one of the most easily recognizable scents of the brand.
As others have mentioned and to put it simply: If you like J'adore, you'll like this. Very similar as far as scent styles go.

T_S

This one was underwhelming for me. Not bad, but not memorable--kind of like an "every person" fragrance from maybe the 90's. It just smells sort of lightly fresh and floral, but there's no complexity to make it interesting on me. I thought for sure I'd love this one because I don't like dark, spicy, decadent perfumes . . . and while this is none of those things, it's just now "wow". Gabrielle does not wear stilettos and jet set through Europe. She doesn't leave a mysteriously alluring, irresistible impression on you as she sashays past you on the street. Nope. Gabrielle wears turtlenecks and works in an office cubicle and has never worn red lipstick; not even on date night.

This perfume is light and fresh. It is a bit youthful for me, but it is beautiful in the spring.

I've never really liked Chanel, and found the various fragrances vulgar and loud (probably because of the one person I knew who wore them, and fit that description perfectly). For years, I couldn't see the beauty and grace that one would expect when hearing "Chanel", until I got Gabrielle Essence as a gift. Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, was BEAUTIFUL! It went right up to being one of my all-time top five favorites.

Now that I've ran out of GE, before repurchasing, I've decided to give the original a try. While I do enjoy this, this doesn't remind me of GE that much, and I would not buy a full bottle of this one. It's not bad at all, don't get me wrong, but the Essence version has everything that this lacks- strength, depth, warmth, and a bigger touch of "Chanel". Essence has a light, but definitely present, Chanel-ness to it, that smooth retro feeling that's reminiscent of more glorious and glamorous times, and this one doesn't. Had I smelt this one on someone else, I would never have guessed it's even Chanel. I would maybe think it's L'Occitane (with their light one-note florals), Gres (with their floral Cabotine flankers), or a very watered down J'Adore L'Eau or EDT, but not Chanel. I even used Essence in the winter and didn't find it lacking or weak by any means (this coming from someone who loves her obnoxious stinky stuff ;)), but this one, I'm afraid, will not deliver the same, now that it's getting cooler. Instead, it's more summer appropriate, or perhaps warmer spring. I wouldn't even say it's a "Chanel starter", it's not nearly Chanel enough to own that title.

Pleasant, wearable, enjoyable, YES. Just not very Chanel. I can only imagine what true fans of Chanel must have felt when this came out. Probably what I'm feeling now that L'Oreal are watering down Mugler.

Edit: there's the slightest "almost honey" feeling to this fragrance. It's like you can smell honey somewhere in the background, but it's never too strong, while still remaining intriguing. Anyway it's a lovely scent, but I still prefer the Essence one.

kkaattjjeess

Gabrielle is one of these perfumes that gets tons of hate (similar to Armani My Way that just came out recently), for no particular reason. I think it's a decent perfume, not groundbreaking, but a good quality wearable citrus-floral. I am not big on Chanel (only own this one and Allure EDP), maybe if I knew/owned more of their scents I'd be more critical with this one?

I received mine through a swap, would I have purchased a full bottle of this at retail price? Most probably not. But I'm also sure I won't have issues using up the 30ish ml-s I got.

Edit/ plot twist: Did end up having issues using it up, swapped it on.

cranky137

I am just not a Chanel person, I usually get a headache of the aldehydes types they use. Garbrielle is nothing but a "forget it" scent. Yes, it is classy in the same way as Hermes Jour, but I just prefer Jour for the crispiness.

The bottle is stunning, if you collect Chanels you might give it a try, but for me it is just boring, don't feel the tart grapefruit that I was looking for.

mdluli

This beauty never got a fair chance from reviewers people.I didn't buy it when it came out because of the reviews. I have it now! all of you who trolled this fragrance you were wrong, summer days during very hot days it performs very well.

JolieSucre

Oh Gabrielle ma belle! I am so happy I am not the only one who immediately recognised our beloved Chanel No. 19 in this, its daughter!

I only used Gabrielle samples; in contrast, I wore Chanel No. 19 for several years until I could not find it anymore, back then I lived in Sweden and it suddenly became unavailable. Hopefully it hasn't been discontinued, and maybe I can find a bottle online ...

To me, Gabrielle is the heiress of Chanel No. 19. That one was a wealthy, glittering French countess dripped in gold and emeralds, tragically disappeared during the French Revolution. Her daughter resurfaced years later - this one!

I'd venture to even say that Gabrielle is the same No. 19, reformulated to appeal to the Coco Mademoiselle and Dior Cherie - loving masses. It is completely different from Coco and Chance, but has the same simplicity yet distinctiveness. Like a shortened version of a 1000-page love story - it is more direct, a bit stronger on the No. 19 top notes, develops quicker, less powdery and thicker, more robust.

No. 19 is the most wearable of the classic Chanel perfumes, from the No. 5 period. If No. 5 is unbearable to me, ruggedly bitter and cheap powder- smelling, No. 19 was the complete opposite, a symphony of feminine notes.

Gabrielle is an absolutely gorgeous floral, with honeyed neroli, vanilla, a generous dollop of refined iris powder, a very wild, untamed gardenia (almost bitter) and a tiny bit of musk. I can see the resemblance with Jour d'Hermes in the composition, but not at all in the scent. To me, Jour d'Hermes smells exactly what a delicate blouse, sprayed with lemon syrup, cold cream and juniper would smell like while being ironed.

This one is waaaay more flowery and nectar-like, much more feminine and sweeter as in warmer, creamier, with a hint of vanilla. Sun-drenched but fresh neroli nectar, with a whiff of tame, expensive and luxurious vanilla. There is no iris listed, which is quite surprising - I am pretty bad at notes, but iris I know.

I detect no 'green notes' that I can feel in Hermes (what your palms would smell like, if you rubbed grass or other neutral-like.... plants) between them. None in this one, none in the No. 19.

It is a fantastic scent, I absolutely love it, and would be a hit if renamed No. 19. The yellow theme is also spectacular and really appealing, very joyful.

diana.antoniadis

I needed a change from Chanel no. 19 ( which I adore). I was looking for something warm, floral and classy.
This has a beautiful jasmine heart and is not too sweet but elegant.
A very feminine scent.

Coquita

Another of those pleasant but generic scents, Gabrielle smells like a fruit salad eaten at a garden party. The most prominent notes to me are pear, mandarin peel, and orange blossom. Its sweetness makes it a suitable daytime fragrance for any season, as the white flowers give it some depth.
Not impressed enough to buy it, but I would use it if I got it as a gift.

Gabrielle is a frivolous and lighthearted fragrance, nothing very serious - pleasant and non-offensive. Very quiet and discreet. Somehow reminds me of Patou's Joy. Cheerful and light flowery pleasure.

anncka

I must say I didn't care much for Gabrielle in 2017 when it first came out.. And then came the Essence flanker and somehow it landed on my wishlist. I got a sample of it and wore it for a weekend at the seaside.. I really liked it and was determined to purchase it.
But then all of a sudden, I started getting really heavy Tuberose which was sometimes giving me a headache. I was so sad because I did enjoy the scent a lot! Then last week I got a bottle of the original Gabrielle for my birthday. Normally, I would've been disappointed, but knowing how the flanker acted on my skin and with this warmer weather currently, I was thrilled!
I absolutely love it now! It is such a sophisticated scent. So simple yet complex, sweetly floral and incredibly fresh at the same time. Elegant but effortless.. I love it! It blends perfectly with my skin. It is just a really good fragrance. As simple as that.

Jana711xx

This is a stunning perfume I am not usually a fan of Chanel,I find them way to heavy and synthetic but Gabrielle is a natural floral with a lot of depth the notes blend perfectly and I always get compliments when I wear this

Naomie

When I sampled it I thought it’s nice but nothing special. As I didn’t have any chanel in my collection I thought it’s nice enough to get it so I’ve got it and I don’t regret it the more you get using it the more you will feel different notes, each time I like it more and more, it’s still not so special for me but it’s great running around casually. Wouldn’t say it’s a memorable scent but very elegant and classy

InfinitEHorizoN

I really don't understand why there is so much dislikes on this fragrance. I bought Gabrielle Essence just because of that reason and I got at the store couple samples of original Gabriel. I spray them both on paper tasters and no one around me can tell the difference between these two. Seriously people? It is so similar and why Gabrielle is so hated and Gabrielle Essence completely opposite. The only thing is different is that Essence last a bit longer and maybe 10% sweeter/lip gloss vibe. Out of 4 people, blind pick no one can tell which one is it, no one! So, to summarize here, if you can get cheaper Gabrielle version buy it don't even bother with Gabrielle Essence, if you have never smelled any of it buy only after testing, online reviews can't tell you what you like.

KBSW

On my skin, the dry-down of Gabrielle EDP smells so similar to my bottle of Molton Brown's Heavenly Gingerlily Eau Fraiche, that it is pointless owning both fragrances. Heavenly Gingerlily also has better longevity and sillage. It's not available in Eau Fraiche anymore, but the EDT is considerably cheaper than Gabrielle and worth a comparison if you are on a budget.

awesomeamiyah

Gabrielle is completely a fresh, super-modern, inspiring, lady-like and opulent fragrance. I received this as a gift from my aunt and I wear it everyday!

Gabrielle is my favorite fragrance ever. Mostly because it had lots of #BlackGirlMagic vibes (especially in the opening) that gave me lots of joy and motivation. I LOVE THE SCENT OF JASMINE, ORANGE BLOSSOM AND YLANG-YLANG WITH HINTS OF MUSK, MANDARIN ORANGES AND PEARS!

I would LOVE AND RECOMMEND to buy this if you want something motivating, magical and luxurious!

Zahraa555

Very nice scent. It’s not unique but still really good. If you like white flowers you’ll definitely like it. When I first spray it I can smell the sharp grapefruit note (not sweet but rather fresh and crisp), then the white flowers will be prominent (I smell jasmine+ orange blossom and Tuberose).
Also I can detect a bit of leather but it is not strong at all.

On the second day it lasted on my t-shirt and I am left with a creamy soft floral scent (very similar to Chanel Chance Eau Tendre).
Over all it is very nice, although alot of people don’t like this scent.
I actually find it very beautiful and easy to pull off if you like floral scents.

dezie_pinx

Completely boring, uninteresting and basic. I received this as a gift right when it came out from a colleague and I wear it at work, but only because it's Chanel and seemingly unoffensive- and it was free. I would NEVER buy this. So simple and I just have the most basic image of a woman that would desire wearing this. boring boring boring.

Exenidi

Allure-esque it is, as rightly noticed by the fellow-fragrantican below!👍 I’d stay with my beloved Allure then.

Midnight cat

Chanel dna
Very oldish mature teacher scent
Too much of every color of flower .
I can’t stand the tuberose so no from me .

I remember trying it for the first time a couple of years ago when it was first released, and I wasn't impressed. Can't say I was left with a bad impression either, rather, I was simply left with no impression at all. Gabrielle also came off pretty bland in comparison to its stronger Essence flanker. But it wasn't until I was given a couple of Gabrielle samples and got so bored over the summer that I decided to give Gabrielle another spin.

Gabrielle Essence certainly comes off much more interesting with its top notes however, it kinda failed to impress me with longevity or heart/base notes. Gabrielle, on the other hand, opens with truly unpleasant, harsh grapefruit that, and I won't lie, I personally found barely possible to inhale. What ultimately sets Gabrielle, the original Gabrielle, far beyond its flanker is the fact that this scent will surprise you with its smooth, seamless and weirdly flawless base. I was quite shocked to realize that Gabrielle transitions to a very silky creamy flowers, cashmere-like musk and a lightly powdered sandalwood. Overall, I got a bit of an Allure-esque vibe from it which I enjoyed a lot.

In terms of silage and longevity, I was quite pleased as well. I found that by large, I didn't need to reapply the scent, and that beautiful smoothness and creaminess, touched by really light trace of citrus lingered for at least 5-6 hours. No trail, for sure. But I could certainly smell it on myself throughout the day. I'd say, this is more of a skin scent but just as long as you smell it, it's fine. However, if you're looking for a powerful entrance and a trail to last, this isn't for you.

Overall, I was surprised to see how much I actually enjoyed Gabrielle. It's very simple and straightforward, super effortless and will very likely become a go-to scent when you want to smell lovely but don't want to give much thought to it. This experience helped me straighten up my wishlist, and while I've crossed out Gabrielle Essence, the original Gabrielle is definitely there and I will totally buy myself a bottle.

Ana81

I don't know if I like or dislike this one. When I bought it I thought the tester I tried on was nice. Nothing spectacular but at the time it was that lipstick rose scent on my skin. I bought it, I didn't open it till weeks later. My purchased bottle is no where as soft or delicate as the tester at the store. My current bottle is rather pungent, no softness to it. I can't even use it as room or fabric deodorizer. If I find I scent to be too awful I can't bring myself to even give it away. I'll hold on to it and perhaps in time the juice will quiet down. Maybe I need to shake it daily and that might cause it to get better in time? I don't think I have a bad bottle and it's from a department store, it's not a fake. It's not the first time the tester in the store smelled beautiful on me but the new bottle I purchased smelled either nothing like the tester or even awful.
Perfume is so finicky, so many factors play into how a scent might behave. I have scents that sometimes smell divine on me and last for hours, yet others times that same scent flees of my skin without devolping into anything nice. I'm hoping Gabrielle turns out to be one of those scents. I'll just keep on trying it every now and then.

Lauren19

I go back and forth with this one. On the one hand this is a typical floral fragrance that did not live up to the hype around it as it was coming out. On the other hand I think it is a relatively beautiful and inoffensive fragrance that wears nicely. I don't know if it is the best value for money but don't write it off completely.

Alexis Zoe P

Gabrielle is a beautiful fragrance so much as that it is named after Chanel herself, and had associated with independence, adventure, breaking boundaries and being a free-spirit. It perfectly matched the message. It's just a nice white flowers with an on-trend grapefruity opening.

I and my Mum and even Dad and my brother LOVED it!

Cameo Autumn Noelle

I smell mostly grapefruit and tuberose backed up with a hefty dose of orange blossom, jasmine and ylang-ylang.

I love it! It's exquisite, memorable and of course, iconic.

stacia79

I smell a lot of citrus... mostly grapefruit, backed up with a hefty dose of jasmine and lily of the valley.

I just cannot believe this is a Chanel. It's pretty, yes but it smells... not Chanel.

Like it is pretty but not exquisite. It's serviceable but not memorable. Clean but not nuanced. Modern but not iconic.

ceilstrakna

Perhaps it's just my body chemistry, but Gabrielle smells just like Dove Soap on me! Now, I adore the scent of Dove Soap (in fact I've always wondered what the notes were), but not at more than 100 bucks a bottle!

Disclosure: I just rubbed a scented magazine strip on my hand. The actual juice might smell different.

Rosemary14

This is super clean and has that Chanel sparkle. Chanel is the champagne of the fragrance world. This is very effervescent with a bright lemony opening, The brightness with the lemon and the soapy white florals and that Chanel pinch of aldehydic sparkle make it a tiny bit metallic. It has very pretty white florals and yellow florals to add smoothness. The black currant is very tangy and nice. The pink pepper is very mild, the sandalwood and cashmeran make it fluffy and soft. This is a very clean white T shirt fragrance of understated sophistication. Some of the most classic designs are clean, neat, simple and timeless. Despite the controversy I really like this latest fragrance from Chanel. Chanel and I are very hit or miss. There are some fragrance’s I love with a passion like Gardenia Edt, Coromandel, Beige, and Allure. Then there is Chanel No 5… if No 5 enter’s the room I walk to the other end of that room. The two of us don’t get along at all. Then there are the Coco Mad and Chance line up that are nice but I find them boring. I suppose Chanel and I have a strange marriage, but it’s a marriage that gives me much more pleasure than pain.

mschnabel666

Beautiful perfume, great sillage/potency but booooring. I love Chanel, and I've shelled out a LOT for their Exclusifs but this is just a crowd pleaser. Big seller. Smells like Coco Mad without the patchouli and rose.
I would love this as a gift, but I'd never shell out $$ of my own. I'd rather have more vintage Chanel ebay finds or another Exclusif. ;)

Scentflower

I've worn this perfume for awhile. What I get is a pure white floral perfume. This was my first Chanel perfume I purchased and felt very fancy wearing it. Now that I have more perfume I see this one bland. It's a basic floral perfume. Nothing to write home about. You'll smell nice but its so basic you'll never be remembered by wearing it. I never reach for it anymore. It also gives me a headache when I wear it. It's a very mature scent. I tried the Essence version thinking the added coconut would give this more dimension but I didn't smell the coconut. This perfume although nice is so bland it's not worth spending Chanel money on it. If you want a classic floral with a little more dimension go with J'adore.

deeper_shallow

It seems to me that body chemistry plays a significant part in how Gabrielle turns out on you - while it hasn't received much love here, I'd say that it is one of the best fragrances I've ever owned!
Sure, the initial citrus and white flowers are nice and all, but what makes Gabrielle so amazing is the drydown: the most exquisite woody cashmere scent.
I smelled something like this over 25 years ago - a fragrance my high school friend's mom had in her house - and have been searching for something similar ever since.
And several times I've found scents that were almost perfect, but there was always something wrong - too sweet, or too sharp, , or too cloying, or with those sickly green notes that just don't work on me.
But Gabrielle is perfect: simultaneously sophisticated and easy-going. Fresh and pretty, while also mysterious and mature. I love it.

senalica

Not sure if it's my skin or my nose, but what the hell, Chanel??? This is just some very weak yellow floral notes and... Well.. that's it really...? Not what I expected from Chanel at all. Where is the depth of the notes? Where is the Lily of the Valley, the peach, the black currant, the musk? Ok, I will have to give it another try and update if my thoughts change (maybe my tester and miniature are off...???)

Edit: Tried it again at a perfume store. If I spray a lot (and I mean A LOT), then maybe I get some deeper notes other than just yellow florals, but still they are very quiet and generally I'm still not impressed with this, especially if it's Chanel. Sorry, not worth the price for me.

kelleybelle

Agree with Annemarie. It's pretty but not something I would buy for myself. Almost smells dated. Actually Chanel herself once said, "Women aren't flowers, why should they want to smell like flowers?" Nothing at all outside of the ordinary ;)

istvan.buda.779

Not sure why people give such a negative reviews . It's a nice floral. I'd say it's pretty unisex

zombieldehyde

This perfume smells great but is it good enough for me to spend this much? No. It is not really worth it. I can buy a cheaper branded perfume with the same feel. The bottle looks good on the vanity mirror though.

AMH19

This is a plain and basic floral fragrance. There is nothing particularly special about it or that makes it stand out compared to other floral fragrances. It has a beautiful floral introduction and top notes but once it settles it smells like any other young flowery perfume.

Annemarie

Perhaps the real problem with Gabrielle is not the perfume so much as that it is named after Chanel herself, and associated with independence, adventure, breaking boundaries and being a free-spirit. As so often happens, the perfume does not match the message. It's just a nice safe floral with an on-trend grapefruity opening. If Chanel had given it another name and suggested that it's a great fragrance for a picnic or a first date, no-one would have cared.

I disagree with giri-boni that Chanel would have LOVED it. Actually Chanel LOVED Chanel No 19 which was made just before she died. She was proud that men stopped her in the street - at her age! - to ask her what it was. Chanel No. 19 is about as different from Gabrielle as is possible to imagine.

But Chanel might have agreed with the business decision to release a new pillar with mass appeal. THAT she would have understood. She was a businesswoman, through and through.

Lola2

I really enjoy this perfume. Not every perfume needs to blow your mind. This for me is an easy reach when I want to feel Chanel confident. I appreciate the fact that not everyone is wearing it. I own 5 Chanel Perfumes and this Gabrielle fits in nicely to the crew. This does not overpower, or fill the room. It gently wafts in and out which is perfect for some moments in life. A skin scent, plus arms reach would describe the silage ( thats is with 2 spritzes maybe 3) I do not overspray, and I feel overuse would be a killer with this perfume.

giri-boni

Lets talk about Gabrielle and its Essence.

This is a beauty. It is safe, yes it is. And what is the problem with it? Just like jeans, a white tee shirt and a beige Chanel little tweed jacket. Sometimes you dont need to be groundbreaking to be beautiful, or delicious, or worth it, you just dont have to prove anything to the world.

I have and love the classic Gabrielle.

It has a lot to do with Chanel herself. Of course it does! It is sharp when it opens, in this case with a blast of grapefruit, just like the aldehydes did 100 years ago. The memory of the cleanness she wanted in her life. The precious Chanel flowers fill the heart, leading to the musk and woods which dress you like silk. Fresh, clean, feminine. Perfectly Chanel. And perfect for a Market which is super saturated with vanillas.
Then came Essence. Another beauty...

Essence loses the sharpness I love, that aldehydic-grapefruit sharpness, and gains white flowers, more of them, as they are expensive and rare, and Gabrielle Chanel would LOVE it. SHE WOULD LOVE IT!

I feel at this point creamy coconut, something warm, sexy, rich, almost ambery without going oriental. A megaflower amplified, maybe GABRIELLE painted through the eyes of Picasso, her friend.

Both are Gabrielle and Both are the Essence of a brand who has defined tendencies for a century: The floral aldehydes, les cuirs de russie, the greens of 19, the oriental COCO and the new wave of chypress with the Mademoiselle.

It was time to enter another century bringing back the beauty of simplicity. Remember why she started, right? ALl those womens hats were too... tooo... too much.

pearlhart

ghastly considering this is Chanel.

I wanted to love this. Such a let down. It smells generic and honestly, slightly chemical....such a boring and uninspired fragrance.

you can tell when brands come out with a scent just for the $$$$

JustSimpleThings

Does this have bad longevity? Yes.

Is it a bit generic? Yes.

Is it pleasant? Yes, absolutely.

For me this perfume, is a no-brainer, just-throw-it-on-and-out-the-door sort of fragrance. I could be wearing jeans or an evening dress and this would suit it (and elevate it) all the same.

I wouldn't purchase it personally, because of the longevity issues and *ehm* because I don't have that kind of disposable income...
But if I did, I would. This is a very nice, bright, alluring fragrance that's easy to love and will surely garner compliments from people around you, males and females alike.

pandastisk

I never liked Chanel perfumes even if I wanted to... Then came along...this little gem! It is not like any other Chanel perfume, and I do not care for the idea that "she" is the little sister of Coco. She is her own. True to her own standards. She carries herself...into the light, into the world.
Proud. Independent. Sexy. Effortless. Young at heart yet ageless.
"She" reminds me of Dior's Pure Poison but less "sharp":
A convincing and well-balanced bouquet of four white flowers... Yes, just excellent! "She" is still there when I wake up in the morning, like the girlfriend of my dreams...

Elsee

Happy Holidays everyone!

This gem doesn't get a lot of love on this site. I have been back and forth with buying this... Every time I wear my sample I get compliments so I think it's time to do it!
I am a perfume junkie so I get fickle a lot with wearing the same one over and over...
This one, however, always seems to entice me. But I know me. I'll never be loyal to just one.
Perfume that is! :)

I love it and will probably take the plunge!
Thank you Chanel for such a lovely, light, lady-like beauty.

Merry Christmas all!

hlus

I had been on the hunt for a new scent since Coco Mademoiselle either went off on me or I got a bad bottle. I absolutely love it, almost to the point of spraying it around the room. Very floral but light and lasts all day. Maybe it's the jasmine I'm liking. It may be too light for some but it's the only one I have that I can actually spray on- others I just dab.

canadianpetite

Musky grapefruit soaked in orange blossom sitting on a bed of jasmine. Pretty, elegant and young. Wearable and inoffensive as long as you like strong white florals. There may be cheaper dupes.

One spray on me,
Sillage: a foot away then discernable on a hug
Longevity: 2-3 hours
Rating: 3/5

Nancy83

An agreeable musky citrus floral on the classy side, while still youthful.

The opening smells discordant on me, but I feel the blend is better after a few minutes. Overall too musky for my teeth, but I found it classy, feminine and familiar. The projection starts moderate soft, than goes stronger to moderate, this citrus floral is more musky than fresh. After 2-3 hours it's softer, woodier, cozier. Around 5-7 hours the smell is more faint, still sniffable for the rest of the day, soapy in the later stages.

I like it, it's not an aggressive perfume, I will finish my sample when I want a classy citrusy floral, but I don't see myself buying it, I would go for other Chanel fragrances before this one.

octobertragedy

Not exactly my favorite fragrance from Chanel. Mostly because I get a very loud jasmine note (especially in the opening) that gives me a headache. The mandarin, orange and tuberose notes are pretty nice, but still, I find it chemically floral fresh. Same thing happened with Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche.
Also, I find the longevity rather poor for such an expensive fragrance. On my skin I get less than 4 hours of staying power.
I guess I have a love hate relationship with Chanel perfumes. I love Coco Mademoiselle and Coco Noir, but I am not a huge fan of fresh, intense floral ones like Gabrielle and all the Chance flankers.
Lovely, romantic, very feminine but I will skip this one...

h149

I love ylang ylang so I was prepared to love this, but it dried down overly musky and vaguely matronly on my skin. After that first skin testing experience, I went back to give it another try, but all I could smell was the musk! A shame.

Jacquis

I love my woody, incense, vanilla perfumes. I previously thought that Gabrielle was a boring floral that will sit on my vanity and slowly die away. But, that was in Winter/Spring. I tried Gabrielle again in the 90 degrees of Fall (Florida) and, wow! It bloomed so beautifully! There is a creaminess to this floral that leaves me wanting more. Also, it lasted all day. I have a lot of perfumes so I rarely wear the same one for multiple days consecutively. Gabrielle was a multi day wear for me. It's like a secret that finally revealed itself. I am so happy that I gave this a second chance. This is a favorite summer perfume for me.

dulcemercedes

I purchased this because tuberose is my favorite floral scent and pear! Which are very apparent to my delight. Is it the most realistic luxurious tuberose? Of course not! lol this perfume is a very luminous yellow golden light!! If colors had a smell... Great for the daytime, workplace etc. If you like chanel's Beige youll like this one!

pearlhart

I find it common. A disappointment. Slightly synthetic too.

Noddygoestotoyland

I am the biggest Chanel believer. Chanel is like a religion; you belong to it!
Have tried this fragrance once only. It is sad someone decided to call it Chanel, but guess that’s life? Sht happens…
CHANCE as a "modern Chanel" was already going down hill, but this is just too much.
So not to lose my religion, will never voluntarily smell Gabrielle again. My generous gesture towards Chanel as a fragrance house, someone needs to do it I offer myself as a willing martyr. LOL God bless

Petula009

This is for women with a crisp white shirt in a business enviroment. Very nice floral, but as it was mentioned couple of times - nothing to remember. Definitely a great gift for a woman in your life.
Very sharp citruses at the begining, flows into florals, sits very close to a skin. Longevity is not from the best, but also not the worst either.
Vibes: clean white shirt, office apporpriate, floral

Ayper

Gabrielle is one of those pretty fragrances that's easy to wear, smells sophisticated, is common enough that you won't turn heads but has a touch of uniqueness so you would know if you hugged a friend and they had the same perfume.

It's a wedding or boardroom or brunch fragrance: you'll feel classy and smell great for those fortunate enough to get close to you, but you won't be announcing your presence via a massive silage.

I suspect this woman has a smart hair cut and well-fitting clothes. She is intelligent, classy, and does everything just the right amount and exactly as she likes it.

The notes are bang on - it's crisp, citrusy, floral.

Overall, a nice fragrance.

NDS79

Chanel Gabrielle is a crisp, clean, white floral with hints of citrus and a lovely dry down of sandalwood. While many do not care for it, I feel amazing when I wear it; it is the kind of fragrance that is just that—fragrant without being overwhelming, yet has enough silage to be noticed without clearing the room. As for staying power, Gabrielle has got it. I love this fragrance, even my 6 year old loves the smell. If you enjoy white florals (especially orange blossom!), and a warm, slightly sweet (but not cloying) sandalwood undertone, give Gabrielle a try. I’m glad I did!
One more note, I am a migraine sufferer and Gabrielle did not affect me negatively in any way.
