Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum by Dior is a Amber Vanilla fragrance for women. Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum was launched in 2014. The nose behind this fragrance is François Demachy. Top notes are Licorice and Almond; middle notes are Jasmine Sambac and Orange Blossom; base notes are Vanilla and Tonka Bean.

Dior’s fragrant poison in irresistible red flacon also has incredible popularity even among younger generations. Its seductive softness attracts attention with a sexy blend of flowers, spices and gourmet aromas, among which are those that tingle your imagination – liquorice, coconut, almonds and vanilla. This is also one of the compositions that made a revolution in the world of perfumery. During years it has been offered in several different ways and in different concentrations. The latest edition signed by perfumer Francois Demachy, perfumer of Dior, depicts the devilish side of the perfume with an oriental composition enriched with sambac jasmine absolute with its icy-animalistic nuances.

Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum is extremely natural and draws its power and strength from carefully selected raw materials absolutes. "Hypnotic Poison plays with absolutes, their natural aromas and depths." - says Francois Demachy. Composition of the perfume provides seductive aromas of sambac jasmine absolute combined with orange blossom absolute warmed and surrounded by resin-like hot notes of tonka and delicate vanilla. Gourmet, seductive face is additionally accentuated by liquorice which is one the key ingredients of the entire Hypnotic Poison line.

The characteristic flacon shaped like candied apple with dark layers of melted lava is most similar by shape and combination of shades to the perfume extract of fragrance Hypnotic Poison. The bottle was created by masters glass-makers Saint-Gobain. Neck of the bottle is decorated with a black ribbon with CD seal and the flacon is crowned with a black stopper that accentuates the darker (witch’s) side of the composition. It has been available since January 2014 as 50 ml Eau de Parfum and 100ml Eau de Parfum.

I am a die hard vanilla girl. My all time favourite perfume, to this day have never smelt anything like it (If anyone has any recommendations of similar fragrances I would appreciate 🥰 please check my profile for my top 3 fragrances to identify my scent profile before recommending) What it smells like to me is deep, dark, sugary vanilla. I don’t understand people’s comments about ‘play doh’ maybe that’s more the EDT? But the EDP is a gourmand sugar vanilla cake! 😋 You really don't need to layer this as the silage is great however I wish it lasted longer on the skin. Although I apply lotion and essential oils I don't seem to get more than 3-5 hours. On my clothes and hair however, this lasts ALL day.

One of my top five, I love it , sexy attractive af

vpace91

Beautiful, deep, sweet, mysterious, just wish it lasted longer

NDL

I LOVE this stuff. My goodness. I loved licorice candy as a kid but I’m starting to realize I gravitate towards licorice in my perfume. OG Lolita Lempicka which was my first ever perfume, Guerlain intense, now this. I also detect a bit licorice in the OG HP EDT even though it’s not listed. So happy to have this in my collection, it was a successful blind buy.

This EDP lasts for hours on my skin and in my hair until the next wash. Definitely detect HP DNA but this is darker, thicker and sexier for sure. There’s also just a perfect hint of dirtiness… from the jasmine perhaps?

june7rose

I'm wonder if I got a fake bottle, all I'm getting is powder and it has no sillage or longevity at all

Parfluive

This is such a warm and comforting scent for me.
It brings me in a very sensual mood, or at least extends this.

HP has just the perfect amount of licorice that stays for the entire scent journey, even days after spraying it's still interwoven with the vanilla.
The jasmine blends in perfectly to give it's white floral sharpness to the overall warmth of vanilla, almond and tonka.

So perfect for a night out. Or evenings spent reading, staying in and letting oneself be enveloped by it's warm comforting scent.
Also the loveliest when lingering in fabrics like a favorite scarf 🧣✨️

It's the end of winter now and spring vibes are all around, and this scent has that cozy vibe with the promise of spring.

(when i first came to know this scent i was a smoker. It reminded me of a cafe after closing time. So note: smoking is so bad for this perfume)

saho93

It is a dense, deep, and somewhat dark scent. I think it’s because of the licorice note. I m unable to detect almond or jasmine.

I think this is very different from the EDT which is sweeter with caramel and more prominent vanilla with slight root beer smell.

While I like EDT better, the EDP stands out in its own way.

nikistruga

This has been my signature for years.

It has a distinct, strong opening in bitter licorice with the soft touch of an almost ghostly almond.
Though an intense introduction, about 5 minutes in the jasmine manages to peek through. The licorice seems to braid into a light orange blossom, leaving jasmine completely in the spotlight. This first transition signs only the beginning of this olfactory experience, because the culminating point, though not as intense as the opening, will be when jasmine and vanilla conjoin into an alluring, seductive blend this scent is characterised by. The tonka beans are the dark foundation on which these two central ingredients will stand for the next five hours.

Tonka beans and licorice are what embrace the gentle vanilla-jasmine blend into a darker, enigmatic aura. Almost like a soft and vulnerable spring flower peeking through a harsh winter.

It is a classic. Beautiful and intense, and you must have a strong character to wear it, otherwise it will wear you.

I’ve been doing a perfume declutter for almost 4 months and this one was on the list too. I realised why I wanted to give away the EDT - the almond and plum and lactonic notes are just too much for me, it’s nauseating. As much as I love the scent I wasn’t wearing it. With the EDP I just never liked licorice, but I’m smelling this now and thinking why would I want to give this away ? This one doesn’t give me a headache, and even though I know it might not be a crowd pleaser, it smells so good if you don’t overspray. The EDT I can recognize anywhere whereas this one I’ve never smelt it on any one. It’s a very dark, sexy scent and I don’t have many of those that like. I’m keeping this one !

Iconic'80s

I just purchased the Oakcha dupe of HP since I have heard that their versions of originals are pretty close. I don't feel bad about doing it since once I think I like something I will order the original through a reputable site or department store.
At first I was kind of meh about it but now that it's been couple of days since I first sprayed it's really growing on me. The vanilla drydown is not sickly, syrupy to me and there is something else there that tempers the sweetness-perhaps it's that original Poison DNA coming through?
I'm not sure what it is, but I'm liking it the more I try it. So much so that I plan to purchase a full size bottle of the real deal.

Schondis

Finally got my hands on this and I can understand why this is so popular! I absolutely love it. On my skin, it smells like sweet almonds. Yum!👌

SAdemoglu

It was my dormmates parfume when she and i was 19. Smells me feel like really grown and independent woman. Now i am 32 and ready to wear it 😍😍😍just bought edt and edp flankers and in my opinion edt is more romantic and innocent, milky vanillish linear smh... And then the edp😍😍😍 It has incensy clover(however it is not mentioned as a note above) just like glögg syrup, it has sweet spices and dark attitude. Makes me feel like i am Maleficent or Dita Von Teese or Kat Von D -there are so many Von people haha-

In conclusion, buy them both. But edp is better and more unique imo.

Jana711xx

This review is for the EDT version in the brighter red bottle, unfortunately I cannot find a listing for that one so I am posting here. I have both he EDP and the EDT not so keen on this EDP version I find it a bit headache inducing but I love the EDT version it is much more subtle and very long lasting and is one of my all time favourite perfumes

bunny_rr

just tried it today and dear god i swear i will save enough money to get you in the near future! IT SMELLS LIKE ROOTBEER!!!! and when the vanilla kicks in, rootbeer with float!
Bathe me in this. Literally.
Elaboration: The start is very sparkly and soda-like. It's fresh, and unique, and interesting. Almonds, rootbeer, plum. 2 hours in, and it rounds up to be a sweet bomb. Vanilla, jasmine, sandalwood. It reminds me of the first whiff of sweet intensity I get when entering Lush shops. The tail end is just basic vanilla, but it lasts for quite a long time. Easily a perfume that lasts 8 hours +

urbandecay99

my all time favorite perfume!! mostly wear this in fall/winter, but sometimes i crave this year round. it’s soo like…. thick! warm and spicy, but sweet, perfect combo of those three, and it sits so well on my skin over time! the licorice is quite strong at first, but tones down and settles nicely as the vanilla and almond make themselves more known. i like that it’s a bit powdery! 10/10 for sure🌟

massimilianoinquieto

addictpiglet

Easily my favorite flanker of the whole poison line, and the best in my opinion. However, I do see why it’s not the most popular fragrance, it’s something polarizing and not everyone’s cup of tea. But it is my bottle of ambrosia for sure! It’s so different from EDT (edt smells like play-doh to me) I would hardly guess they are related. This was my first big girl signature scent in high school. I looked for something mature and sexy, something that would make 15 year old me feel like a dark enchantress. I found this and for years it was my favorite, until I went nose blind and left it at a corner untouched for a few years. In college I picked it up again and couldn’t understand why I ever left this. It’s dark, full of licorice, nothing sweet about it. It’s definitely not a blind buy. It’s the sexiest and most polarizing perfume in my collection.

renzhina.eugenia

Firstly tested it in the duty-free shop. I took only 1 perfume with me for my trip and was SO tired of it, that spraying something new was like a bliss..
Unlike the edt version, it is rather hard to find in the shops to test.
So, they are two completely different scents, but there is a similarity.
Edp is thicker, deeper and sweeter. It is sweet, but not like a simple sugar candy, imagine the honey thick texture and sweetness without the honey smell. I can wear edt in summer, but edp? I won't even try :)
The closest thing I can name is Dior Addict. Not by the notes (though they are both heavy on vanilla), but by the mood - sultry, grown-up sweet intoxicating perfume. Both are femme fatale

scachomba

Well... There's nothing especial in that perfume...
The dry down is nice but that's all...

tuoksu

I tested this in the shop. All day long I loved it, but later, after maybe 5 or 6 hours, all I smelled was very strong jasmine. It reminded me of Body Shop's Indian Jasmine scented oil. I hated it and I couldn't wait for my shower.

I had sprayed this on my neck and in the elbow of my shirt. When I went for my shower, I could smell it inside my elbow. It went through the Fabric. I scrubbed my neck with soap.

I could still smell the jasmine afterwards. If I wiped my neck with a tissue, it smelled of jasmine.

The shirt has been washed in 60° and still smells like jasmine too.

Maybe not everyone will have this experience but it's definitely not a safe blind buy.

my favourite smell in the world

lika_jakobia

From the moment I got this perfume as a present years ago, it became for me as a must have for all seasons and occasions. Not suitable in office as it might be heavy for some. It's sweet, gothic and elegant, sensual, dark vanilla, never boring. Hope they will never discontinue HP.

You absolutely can tell that the EDP and EDT of Hypnotic Poison share the same DNA. However, compared to the EDT, the EDP is less sweet, more powdery, more dry, and a bit dusty.

The first 15-30 minutes for the EDP were a little less pleasant than I'd hoped -- it smelled like a vanilla air freshener sprayed in a jazz club bathroom to mask the odor towards the end of the evening.

However, at about the 1-hour mark, the familiar DNA of Hypnotic Poison became more apparent, and the dry dustiness settled down. You're left with a much less sweet version of the Hypnotic Poison EDT. Some reviewers on YouTube have mentioned a metallic note in the EDP, and I see what they mean. It doesn't smell like metal per se, but there's very tiny hint of something that makes the dry down less warm and attractive than it should be.

Ultimately, there's nothing particularly special about the EDP. Definitely do NOT fall for the YouTube hype around Halloween where they call the EDP a vampire, femme fatale fragrance. I think they're just drawing the imagery from the blood-red bottle. There is nothing in this fragrance that smells dangerously vampire-esque.

I'd recommend the EDP only to people who want the Hypnotic Poison DNA from Dior, but want something that is more mature. Otherwise, I think there are better ways to spend your money when it comes to spicy, vanilla fragrances since there are so many to choose from. Either get the EDT instead or try something like Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal Le Parfum (which smells like a cross between Hypnotic Poison EDT and Narciso Poudree).

Your best bet is to get a sample vial from Mercari, which is what I did. 2 ml is enough to know how you'll feel about it. I personally will not be buying a full bottle of the EDP.

Dani83

This perfume is intoxicating in a good way it’s thick very sweet and syrupy and everyone always ask what are you wearing it smells so good I like it lot Moore than the edt there both beautiful fragrances and people will want to know what your wearing

ataraxiuh

i don't know if i got a defective bottle or what but I have never scrubbed a perfume off my wrist faster than this one. smells like an old ladies blanket that's been sitting in a plastic vacuum sealed bag in an attic. super synthetic, play-doh like vanilla I get zero florals especially not jasmine or orange blossom. after about an hour this becomes slightly more bearable the dry down is just a basic faint vanilla/ Tonka scent. this was the blind buy that has finally taught me the lesson of the dangers of blind buying. never again.

PerfumePixie87

This is a witch's cauldron bubbling with syrupy dark fruits. It is an almond/licorice bomb which is so dry and powdery it almost feels like blowing the dust and cobwebs off a leather bound spell book. Gothic, heady and intoxicating. The maroon poisoned apple presentation along with the name are perfectly befitting for the scent. I find the mystical play-doh drydown intoxicating.

muncierobson

Sometimes EDP means stronger EDT but this is a sister scent to the OG Hypnotic Poison (which I also own and love).

It starts of thick and syrupy with a blast of liquorice. The vanilla becomes powdery as it dries down and the flowers add depth but are hard to detect.

I find the EDT warm, fuzzy comforting .

HP EDP is sexy and bold. It demands attention and makes me feel confident.

Very long lasting and moderate sillage - I wonder if it was reformulated when they removed the black tag. I’ve had both bottles and it’s seems softer now.

It’s lovely!

margielaenthusiast

i thought i had the edt for a while then i looked at the bottle again and smacked myself. i got this one in paris because i noticed all perfumes produced in paris are just better tbh. i think this one smells sweeter on me like vanilla and jasmine with a touch of licorice so i can get by with wearing it at school. this one's also a huge compliment getter so when i walk in a room people often ask "what smells so good???"

issabellind

Better than the EDT imo. If you're a goth like me, this is a MUST HAVE in your collection. It's dark, rich, deep, and sexy and perfect for a night out. This also lasts FOREVER. Sadly, I can't feel the licorice at all on my skin, meanwhile it feels like a licorice bomb on a paper strip.

mabelangel

this is probably the most overhyped perfume of all time. it starts out with this terrible liquorice/star anise combo that makes me feel like i’m stuck in an asian grocer on a humid day. eventually it does calm down a bit but it’s still pretty offensive. then it transforms into this slight vanilla with almond and liquorice. it’s not very sweet.. it’s pretty bitter. slowly but surely it becomes a bit sweet but not at all as sweet as other people claim. honestly this seems pretty cloying and overly expensive for such a headache inducing and boring scent. i tested this on paper so maybe that’s why but this is probably one of my most disliked scents ever so far lol

massimilianoinquieto

perfumesniffer

wow this is dramatically different from hypnotic poison EDT! I did not realize it would be quite so different. I’ve been an EDT devotee for decades and apparently just got the EDP for the first time. I’ll come back with a fuller review after more wears, but this is not similar (much less sweet and smells like smoky incense to me, not gourmand at all). bottle purchased in August 2023 so must be the latest reformulation because bears no resemblance to reviews below mine unless folks are writing about the EDT here instead of EDP. (No licorice, not sweet, but is smoky).

Smeraldina77

I love the EdT and I have been using it since 1998, so I had great expectations from the EdP and I have tried it on my skin. Unfortunately, I find it quite disgusting..... The bitter almond is way too strong and it smells pretty much like cyanide or nail polish remover to my nose... So sad! I will stay with my beloved EdT :) So, even if you like the EdT, do not blind buy the EdP!

fragrancetravel

yeah this is just so good. idk what else to say. it’s beautiful and although popular i still feel like it’s underrated somehow. it smells like spencer’s in 2003 and ur running to the back of the store to check out all their naughty items. yea it’s so good. don’t get licorice at all on my skin but my chemistry is odd

Prunel

Intrigued by the notes, I tried it today. I find this really good, it approaches niche quality. I'm a guy, and I'm really happy to smell that this isn't super girly. This is feminine, but not to a point where I couldn't see myself wearing it like a lot of women perfumes. I could see myself wearing that, I'll give it more tries.

Asliyenigun

If the opening was good enough, I could say it is the best perfume in the world.

Xzigalia

Sweet, rich, boozy, sensuous, warm, and strangely clean. It reminds me of smelling the head of a person with freshly-washed hair, and smelling both the sweet shampoo and the clean scalp. I feel like this could have been inspired by a sweet liqueur such as amaretto, though I don't get the almonds strongly, mainly the vanilla and jasmine. Unlike a lot of sweet perfumes, it doesn't sit on top of the skin, but blends - dare I say, melts in. It's a very heady smell, and surrounds one thickly, like incense, certainly not light or fresh. If you don't adore the scent you may find the density of it bothersome. I adore it. Got the roll-on as a freebie and was dismayed to find out the cost RRP. I will be actively looking for a discounted bottle, not because it isn't worth the cost, but because it is definitely not a cheapie. Do not blind buy if you can't drink liqueurs without batting an eye at the intensity.

scenturian

If you are wearing only black top to the bottom, following gothic and punk fashion, metal rivets, spikes etc, gothic accessories and jewelry, leather jackets and boots, black make-up then this is a must to complete your vampiric femme fatale soul and outlook, otherwise if you are colorful then this will wear you.

Melody Valentine

Edit, just realised this says launched in 2014 but I smelled it way before then, I'm sure of it, so I might be mistaking this for another earlier version of HP. Either way, it sounds pretty much like the one I'm on about

This is the original HP I remember, not the one you can get today in the opaque bottle. The liquorice note must be what makes all the difference. I remember smelling the og Poison first and falling in love with it so when I got the chance to smell any of the flankers I would and they all had the Poison dna. You could tell this was a Poison flanker. Now I feel like it's just a stand alone perfume, albeit a nice one.

This one smells like thick creamy almond, slightly soapy, cocunutty, but the liquorice let's you know it's a Poison. It's not a bitter cherry almond, like in br540 extrait, it's more like an almond body cream. It dries down to a creamy vanilla with that distinct Poison smell. It smells like the bottle looks. I used to love this for going out clubbing, it's got the same vibe as Alien in that it's got something about it that's different from everything else, people instantly know what you're wearing. All the variations of Poison make me imagine them being made by a good witch in her little cottage in the forest and put into little mini couldrons to be sold to people for different reasons. Almost as if they're medicine. It definitely has a play doh sort of smell and for that reason I know a lot of people hate it but to me it's just a pretty realistic vanilla smell. Yet another one my mother thinks like anti septic 😂 there's definitely a pattern when it comes to perfumes I like. It used to last a long time aswell, now I'm reading reviews saying it's weak so it's obviously been changed a lot over the years. A total classic and I can see why. Apparently Adele wears this, even with her billions of pounds she still chooses this over something way more expensive.

Gambamsx

I absolutely adore this scent, it's my signature for sure. It's so unusual and dark, but sweet at the same time. I love vanilla based scents with a dark twist. I also love the Hypnotic poison EDT. I hope neither of them ever get discontinued. Already gutted they discontinued midnight poison, I miss it.

fyre92

Correcting my review. This was reformulated twice.

One with tassel(first release):
Spicy, licorice, vanilla, cherry. It’s powerful and will last 24hrs if you let it.

Second one without tassel:
(second release) Licorice, vanilla, cherry almond with almost as much spice as the original. It’s drier that the first. It’s still super longer lasting. Just not as gothic.

Also without tassel(third release)
This one has been completely reorganized. It’s cherry, vanilla, sugar, floral, almond and a transparent licorice. This is by far the sweetest yet most sheer/edt reminiscent of the three. This smells soooooo sweet and thats the main characteristic of this. It last 12-16 hours but is not hefty. Of all of them though this one smells EXACTLY like the bottle looks. Like dark red glass covered in sugar and licorice.

By no means should you avoid any of the three. I might try and find a backup of the tassel one or the most recent one just in case. It will be like roulette tracking any but the tassel one down lol Dior did their usual and changed the formula and said absolutely nothing so most people don’t even realize which one they have unless you buy all three. Good luck lol 😂

If you like LPRN and Lolita lempicka buy this. It’s so much more vampiric than those two and so much more long lasting. LPRN perfecto has a similarity as well with almost none of the longevity.

SusiLisa_pixie

This little dark, sensual, gothic potion has made me appreciate a licorice note in fragrances. So much so that it's my current signature. This reminds me of the Aniz Escarchado liqueur from Madeira (Portugal) but a more twisted, darker, spicier, syrupier version of it.

It performs better on my skin in colder weather and at night. It's not for everyone but sometimes I wear fragrance to peeve others around me off while I get a confidence boost for the day.

GastonThem

Is has a great performance, really great. Dior still have it.

Juliusq75

I got Hypnotic Poison eau de parfum thinking it would be better and more vanilla than the eau de toilette. It was overpowering licorice and not much vanilla. However, thanks to loving the bottle, it sat on my shelf for a year, untouched. I pulled out both the toilette and the parfum and sprayed one on each hand. The awful licorice is GONE and the scent is gorgeous! Still not as good as the eau de toilette overall, but lovely with nice depth. It is more powdery than the toilette, and sadly the scent doesn’t last, it’s a skin scent in 20 min with one spray. I think the lack of longevity may be due to the age, as I got it probably a year or more after it was discontinued, and it sat a year. If I had known it was going to turn into a lovely I would have snagged a second bottle. I don’t think it’s worth a huge premium bc it’s discontinued, but if it wasn’t too expensive it’s worth having.

Acrelune

This is sensuality in a bottle.
Lasts better on clothes than on skin.
Absolutely mesmerising.
It can be a bit confusing or even off putting the very first time you try it, DO NOT GIVE IN TO THAT FIRST IMPRESSION. Give it time. You’ll be so grateful you did.

Most prominent notes according to my nose:
Licorice
Tonka
Vanilla
Jasmin

I also get Incense which is not listed here. A few days after you spray it on clothes, you start getting a creamy coconut hint, reminiscent of the coconut in the EDT.
I do not perceive orange blossom at all.

9.5/10 just because I wish it projected better, the longevity is GREAT, you will smell it for days on your clothes, but the projection is inexistant, people can only smell it if they lean in to hug you. If it had a good sillage, this perfume would be utter perfection.

200mlEDP

This perfume is absolutely gorgeous! The top notes are like an exotic cocktail with liquorice and almond liquor, dark and boozy. When the vanilla starts to unfurl I am enveloped in clouds of waffles with vanilla ice cream and shaved toasted almonds. It’s is achingly beautiful and I can’t get enough of it. So tantalising and seductive, long lasting and still gives you space without being to much. I can not wait to get the body cream.

Elfin Will

A very nice perfume. It reminds a lot of the EDT Hyptonic Poison but with a modern twist. Initially the bitter almond takes over which might not be really appealing, but after evolution it softens and blends perfectly with sweet vanilla and caramelized toasted tonka bean. I don't perceive too much licorice to be honest, at least not in its raw form, but clearly, its presence differentiates this scent from any other vanilla amber scents I've tested. The projection isn't incredible, but the longevity is excellent.

However, I do not really find this perfume "hypnotic", even less, a "poison", and therefore I do not understand the choice of its name. It is quite the opposite for me... A warm, round and comforting scent!

8/10

Admw

Just too much dark licorice in here, It's overpowering and intoxicating! I really have to layer her because on her own she is intolerable…

Edit: When you layer this with Poison Girl edp it smells great! Very deep and warm for a cold day.

chrrrly

i liked this when i first got it, it was my first expensive perfume purchase. but now i’m so sick of it, it’s almost nauseating to me now

AleshaA

The older bottle with the CD tag is just more dirtier and bitter smells sort of like burned flowers and orange liqueur it lasts a little longer then the current formula
But it’s more or less the same still as potent and hypnotic I have 6 bottles of the new and old from different batch codes so yea it’s still divine
much better then edt current formula
Edit: I bought a 2022 bottle just a couple of days ago and it isn’t as strong smells like chocolate and flowers
Edit: I bought a 2023 bottle as well it has changed a lot
Smells different
It’s still intoxicating
no cherry liquorice
More orange blossom and tonka bean
Dry down HP edt

I wanted to add to my review: when purchasing this, many resellers on the grey market are using the image for the EDP with the ribbon and CD seal (sold in a dark red box with an aura around the name)but they’re actually selling the one without (sold in a red box without an aura around the name) - which you can often find cheaper on the discount websites. If you see only a stock photo, ask for an image of actual bottle. However, the version without the CD tag is a beast in terms of longevity and sillage but it’s the only version I’ve smelled. I hope that helps!

Creamy_ambrette

I absolutely adore this version of hypnotic poison!! It does have a more “vintage” or “mature” vibe - I think it’s the licorice creating that vibe in the EDP. To my nose, there is something so familiar about this fragrance. I do not get play dough- I don’t get that with the edt either- my nose picks up a sweet, deep, dark, powdery nutty jasmine! There is a slight toasted feeling to the overall scent. It’s truly intoxicating. It last hours on my skin and it has a beautiful trail that wafts up from my arm when I wear it. I purchased the version without the sexy CD ribbon and seal- (I cannot find that version anywhere) on Jomashop. It was a 3.4 oz Tester for $100!!!! before Valentine’s Day! It came with a cap and in a plain white box but no different than the retail version! So far, I haven’t met a Poison I haven’t fallen in love with!! I have Poison, Hypnotic EDT, HP EDP, Poison Girl EDT, EDP and Poison girl unexpected edt (which is a sexy ginger and hazelnut version of PG!) I’ve sampled Pure Poison and I will be purchasing a full bottle next and I’m thinking of picking up Hypnotic Poison Eau Secret!

jihado86

A male POV : I liked the EDP better than the EDT.
EDP has this dark sexy vibe, while the EDT smells like a very sugary brownie in a bad way, too much for my taste.

ema2396

Sweet juicy velvety scent, great for cold days. It last the entire day on me. I think it's better than the EDT, which has a more playdough vibe, this one is more plum and almond like. The playdough vibe of the EDT feels velvety in this one.

If I were to buy it again, I'd get the 50ml instead of 100ml because I don't wear it that often due to being a bit too sweet and overpowering for daily wear in my opinion. It's more like the type of fragrance I would wear once in a while.

Princessy

This EDP version is my favorite one, as it's deeper and sweeter than the EDT. In fact, it was my signature scent for many years in my late teens 16-20y. I love it because it's a strong, long-lasting and sweet vanilla fragrance. I used to wore this all-year around, during day and night, but it does particularly bloom during colder months.
I understand that it can be too much for some people, but if you like beast mode fragrances, go for this one, you will not be disappointed.

Air of Grace

Just bought a bottle of Hypnotic Poison EDT and the sales lady let me try the EDP . I agree with reviewer Lalunalynn and believe they are very different .

On my skin I prefer the EDT as it lighter and not as sickly sweet as the EDP.

With the EDP, the liquorice is blended into a more Musk sticks scent in the opening notes . It’s a thicker formulation and it’s quite powdery on me .

Not my kind of scent .

Glad I got the EDT instead

Adyzibee

I h8te this juice omg the licorice i cant stand it

Lalunalynn

So I'm wearing edp and edt on both wrists at the mo. I don't know, for those who say if you have edp you don't need edt, I kinda disagree. They are quite different, especially the top and middle. I don't get any HP for the first hour. The dry down is where they begin to have similarities, but only that play dough dna. Edp is sweeter and brighter, where edt is flatter with no real bright notes, its play dough and vanilla spice. I honestly like both and would buy both because I think edp is more like a flanker rather than a stronger formulation. Imo they are different enough to have both.

sweet_cherry

It is too mature for my liking the EDT smells a lot more sexier and youthful than this. I smell nothing but licorice.

AleshaA

Every year I would put this away for the colder months and when that happens I think maybe this is too strong for me now and as soon as I spray it it’s all out the window
Because it’s thi most beautiful scent ever created I have a couple of older bottles so I’m thinking I can wear this forever……
Something magical about this it’s truly a poison potion
Most people won’t like it and I can agree as if the weather is warmer it drives me crazy in a not so good way
But it agrees with my skin chemistry so much that it has to be a part of my perfume collection

This potion is probably the least synthetic out of them all
It may still have some absolutes in it
As for the edt I bought 3 bottles of the new formulation and sold them all

DPrince01

I find the original a little boring. This one is deeper and sexier, so I would recommend it over the EDT. It’s a sophisticated vanilla, almond white floral but there is something quite dark about it which makes it interesting and unique to me. The EDT has more of a root beer, playdough vibe. When testing this in stores, you can really smell the liquorice when spraying the perfume on paper but don’t let that turn you off, the liquorice contributes nicely to the overall composition on skin and clothes. Longevity and projection are pretty good even in the current formulation. Overall, a great buy and one of my favourite perfumes now.

aspirina

Love this with all my heart. Vanilla, licorice, jasmine and almond done to perfection. I have a few back up bottles, but I am afraid I will need to hunt down more pre-reformulated bottles or even the more recent reformulation...this is the problem, if you look in the Dior's website, only the EDT is available. Why? why Dior why? are they discontinuing the EDP for ever? are they selling the last EDT bottles?
Please...this is not funny.

Joani_Cheddar

SOLID~ this is a heavy hitter! knocks the sillage out the park and is a homerun on longevity! Smells like EDT but enhanced with licorice note. This wore great on an autumn rainy brisk weather - I can only imagine the colder the better!

amyaz

Meh. Smells good, a little more powdery than the edt. I don't think it's that much of a difference from the edt so if you already have one you don't need the other.
(However I will say I prefer the edt because that is a little more root beer type scent and edp is more baby powder on me)

Scentsibility85

I have the edition that is pictured above with the little black leather tag thingy. It’s a beast in projection and longevity. I’ve heard that the latest edition without the tag thingy is weak and disappears quickly :-( if you can find the one pictured above GET IT!

Miss Kittens

So I try to stick with the perfumes that are edp. As ibviously they last longer but shockingly this perfume has weak projection and silage. Very disappointed that I don't smell any almond or coconut just weak licorice. The general consensus is that the edt version has better projection and silage. I also adore the playdough scent and so I should have gone with the edt version. I might have to layer it with another perfume to give it some ooomph.

Lucinda Va Jay Jay

It's very yummy aroma.
Gothic and Elegant
Another discontinued perfume sadness (wish you get some)
However, Dior change it little aroma serval times.

saintkoshka

this is the go to scent to complete a gothic vibe. that dark licorice and jasmine enjoined together is a wonderful combo. as it dries down, it becomes sweeter and dark. it lasts forever on me and i feel so cozy whenever i wear this. it wasn't a love at first sniff for me though cause it's a bit ... unorthodox but it grew on me super quick. i love this

fragrantkilljoy

I generally love the poison line, but oh my God this is so so bad as someone who doesn't like licorice. I thought that maybe it'd be so well blended that it wouldn't stand out and therefore be ok but to me this smells as if the original HP turned bad. It does get better the longer it's on my skin but it's still not good at all.

I would've really loved a different note than the licorice, maybe incense or anything else that's not as sharp. Because while I hate the note it does really help with keeping the fragrance from developing that play dough note that the original originally develops on my skin.

But, even if I'd like it I wouldn't buy it since both longevity and sillage are really disappointing. It's been two hours and it's just a faint skin scent now.

Oreo2

Something about this reminds me of a diaper soaked in water. I can see why it was discontinued.

December97

Tested this at the department store and it smells amazing. It smells like black liquorice which for me is good because I enjoy black liquorice. It smells cosy, rich and sweet and would be perfect during the winter.I actually tested this alongside the EDT and to my surprise I could barely smell the EDT both in the air and on my wrist even after I had left the store. I think it's been watered down to some extent. The EDP is much stronger.

Roos88dutch

To me it’s smells like the edt with incense .vanilla almond Jasmin incense. Like a Indian or oriental shop. Really comforting but to mature for me or to dark .it reminds me of my mom too . I think it’s a great goth sent or a sent you can wear when you down . I’m wearing it on me days at home . Chill days . But I see others wear it a night out or date nights like my mom did .

Slave2scent

This EDP version doesn't get a lot of love, but I think it's gorgeous. It's very sweet, but not quite gourmand, dark, mysterious, a little bit powdery. I can definitely smell the almond which is slightly bitter to start with then turns sweeter and I get plenty of vanilla, but something stops it from being sickly sweet. I do get some liquorice, but it's not like the liquorice I've smelt in other fragrances, I don't normally like a liquorice note. I fell in love with it many years ago when just randomly sniffing perfumes in a department store, it was so different to anything I'd ever smelt, and I thought it was intoxicating in the best way. I wore it for a while over winter months but I get bored easily and hadn't worn it for years, then I revisted the old perfumes in my collection and have fallen back in love with it, I think mainly because the edt version that I had been wearing recently is too weak for me, I love it but theres no projection and doesn't last long on my skin. I'm more into strong perfumes at the moment, especially sweet ones. This one really lasts, and the dry down after an hour or so is reminiscent of the edt but stronger. I own and have smelt so many perfumes, and it's still so different to anything else I've tried. I've not worn it on a hot day yet, I'm sure it won't work in hot and humid weather, but on a cool day or in the depths of winter it's perfect.

IndigoEye

I got a bit concerned when people mentioned that this was discontinued. However, it is still prominently featured on Dior's website and available, and in stock, everywhere.
I prefer this to the EDT. The EDT is very powdery, soft, and more gourmand in feel, whereas I prefer the darker, clearer tone of this scent. I think the opaque v. translucent bottles transfers well to the vibe of the scents themselves. I'm also a big licorice fan, which helps!
They are both great scents but they have a flanker relationship, rather than just being a different concentration.

Flavia22

A super quality licorice bomb. That's how I would describe Hypnotic Poison edp.

At the first spray, you will get a licorice and almond combo. The almond gives a bitterish, I could say even fresh touch to this fragrance. The vanilla is also present, but not the main character in here. My bf smelled coconut, but I couldn't identify any. I find this somehow creamy on the drydown, but I can"t tell from what. Maybe some sandal wood which is not listed here haha.

This is not a common vanilla and tonka scent. The licorice and almond give this its uniqueness, although I have that feeling that I have smelled this somewhere else in the past.

The longevity is a downside, as I would've expected for it to last more. Not great, not terrible :')
Anyways, I think that it might be possible to go noseblind after a while and probably that's why I can't smell it after 4-5 hours or so, and I feel just a faded skin scent. Anyways, I will continue to test it to see how it behaves. Come with an update maybe.

In conclusion, I love this fragrance. I love its uniqueness, I love that it is not that super sugary sweet kimd of perfume, it is a grown up type of fragrance, and you need to have certain personality to wear this. Maybe I will also try the edt version.

I have read comments in which people said this is discontinued. I hope not. I saw comments dated even from 2017, so hopefully this is just false news and the edp is just rare like Dior Homme Parfum :)

karenX

Received a sample spray of this lovely, and unusual, soapy/powdery vanilla. I don't normally like vanillas but this is actually pretty nice. It's not overwhelming or cloyingly sweet, as many seem to be. The rare vanilla where I would consider buying a full sized bottle.

lyka

TRES IMPORTANT SILLAGE. ON NE PASSE PAS INAPERCUE. PEU INCOMMODER. CONVIENT BIEN PAR TEMPS FRAIS VOIR FROID. J AI BIEN L AMANDE LA TONKA LE JASMIN EN FRAGRANCE. A PORTER PAR UNE FEMME SURE D ELLE OU DE CARACTERE. A ESSAYEZ AVANT D ACHETER MOI JE L AIME BIEN POUR CHANGER DE TEMPS EN TEMPS

AlaskanAngel

On my skin this is very powdery, not ever nearing gourmand territory. I also can't find the almond at any stage... This reminds me of Lolita Lempicka, which was another disappointment. That too sweet, powdery, licorice candy wrapper scent with a floral base... This also just turns more and more musky the longer it wears. Sadly, it smells so unfortunate on me.

Review of full size bottle blind-buy. I shouldn't have. Wish I had just bought a sample.

TheSweaterGirl

Hypnotic Poison EDP could be a shocking or disappointing surprise to lovers of the EDT version. While the EDT smoothers you in a sumptuous cloud of soft almond marzipan and a cushiony pillow of coconut and vanilla with a whisper of musk, the EDP is an entirely different beast.

The licorice opening is simultaneously sharp and warm. It is deep and enveloping. It could be off putting to lovers of the gorgeous and soft EDT. There is a slight alcohol hit upon first spraying too. The licorice is reasonably prominent for at least an hour. During the mid, a hint of vanilla and orange blossom soften the bitterness. It starts to become a bit more delicate and intriguing.

The scent remains warm, deep, dark and somewhat bitter for several hours. I find sillage is not what I expected. Intimate to moderate. Longevity however is truly remarkable. 17 hrs and this is still present as a close skin scent.

So very very different and less potent(in terms of sillage) compared to Hypnotic Poison EDT. The EDT leaves an amazing scent trail, whereas this wears so much closer. My family tends to not even notice I am wearing this one.

Hypnotic Poison EDT is one of my absolute favourite fragrances. The EDP is a dark and decadent treat, but has little in common with the EDT. I would recommend seeking a sample or decant to try before investing in a full bottle. Especially as the prices can be silly given it is discontinued.

Less crowd pleasing. Harder to love than the EDT. While I enjoy having this in my collection, and I do like it, it doesn’t hold a candle to the EDT.

This one is interesting, rich, warm and, ultimately, a soft fragrance. But a “stronger” version of the EDT it is not. The EDT and EDP are VERY different scents.

Edit to add, once the tonka and vanilla start warming things up in the mid, I get a curiously cedar-like note that I think is just a result of the licorice bitterness meeting the sweet tonka/vanilla notes. Pretty and interesting fragrance that might just grow on you if you test it a few times.

Lavagirl66

I made the mistake of spraying this on an item of clothing which held onto the sharp and polarising "gothic" liquorice top note which permeated my wardrobe for weeks. I pulled it out yesterday to finally sell but decided to give it one more go. And oh my, this is even better than the much favoured EDT once you let it settle for about 20 minutes or so. On the skin the liquorice note dissipates within 10 or so minutes to reveal a soft powdery almond vanilla scent with a mild beeswax candle texture. I'm definitely keeping this now and wearing it as an Autumn (Fall) to Winter day scent. The play doh scent people talk about is more of a bees waxy scent and texture which I personally adore.

Krysia77

I have loved Hypnotic Poison (EDT) for a long time and purchased a 100ml bottle of the EDP about 5 years ago. It takes pride of place in it's beautiful box on my dressing table. I use it for mainly evenings out and occasionally for a daytime outing when I want to feel extra special. It is so rich, divine, just luxurious and sexy. I can pick it a mile away when someone else is wearing it, I smile at them and say "Are you wearing Hypnotic Poison?" they confirm and smile back, we share the love of this gorgeous scent. The EDP feels deeper and darker than the EDT to me, more akin to night time and autumn/winter wear. Just beautiful.

sharky_shosho

Dark and sensual take on the edt with an amplified licorice note. Sexy, addictive, gothic and mature. I imagine an alluring vampire woman wearing this as her signature scent. Perfect date night scent for a femme fatale typa lady indeed.
Scent: 9.5/10
Longevity: 8/10
Sillage and projection: 7/10
Value for money: 8.5 /10

seliko

honestly, i wanted to blind buy this perfume because i do like hypnotic poison edt and since all poisons are very similar in dna, i thought i wouldn’t be able to tell a difference. i especially thought that hypnotic poison edt and poison girl were almost the same on my skin.

with this fragrance however, i was wrong. i can definitely pick up on the licorice and this is definitely less sweet than the edt. of course they are very similar, i just feel like the edt is the sociable sister who is liked by almost everyone and this version is the colder, edgier sister who has a solid group of friends but is more distant when you initially meet her.

i wish the edt also had a semi transparent bottle like this one, i find it much prettier. the bottle was literally the only reason why i was about to blind buy this rather than the edt lol

Adyzibee

I kinda like the drydown lol but u have to wait for 7 hours+ lol the rest of the beginning smell woody 100 percent

nessa_arroyo

I'm gonna be the odd one out, but I really disliked this. Both smelling from the bottle and on paper and skin. That nutty vanilla licorice combo really comes off synthetic, plastic/Play-Doh, and make-up like. Not something I want to smell like. Really cloying and I really don't see the sex appeal to it. Not mysterious or seductive. I couldn't wait to wash it off.

ajfragrances

I think this has been reformulated, and I was so disappointed when I received mine as the package is different from when I tried it at the boutique. Oh well. I’m going to review based on the reformulated version as that’s the one I have most experience with. The new formula has less of a licorice smell, and quickly turns very very similar to the EDT after a while, but still has a darker twist than the EDT for the entire wear. The EDT smells much more powdery/nutty/vanilla, where the EDP is more licorice/vanilla/nutty. Very strong, and smells like a thick syrupy licorice/vanilla smell. I really love this, and it lasts foreverrrrr!! I’ll spray it on my clothes before bed and wake up to it in the morning, and continue smelling it throughout the day and even into the next night.

hazi

A warm almond vanilla scent. I love the edt one too, I think they're both great. The edp one is more suitable for everyone's taste and easier to use. On the days when I spray this perfume, I want to hug myself!!!

LizaJane

I quite prefer this over the EDT version. While I do enjoy the EDT, it just doesn't really have the oomf and sex appeal I hoped for. However, the EDP gives me exactly what I wanted. On my skin the EDP projects and lasts much longer than the EDT, which quickly becomes a skin scent on me.

In the EDP you get a strong licorice note in the opening, but it quickly transforms into a sweet, sultry, almond and tonka fragrance. I find this to be incredibly sexy, perfect for a fall/winter date night. This is a fragrance I will be keeping in my arsenal and will be pulling out on special date nights with my hubby!

Alces Alces

Gentle readers...please be aware that this page is for the EDP version. It's quite distinct from the EDT. The EDT seems to be more popular, but these two are QUITE different in notes, not just in strength.

I love the eau de parfum version because it has exactly the maximum concentration of licorice, vanilla, and tonka that I can stand. And almond notes are usually nothing but trouble for me -- except in this case, in which they explode like a puff of almond pastry. HP EDP is not sweet, but it makes me think of sweets, almost as if you brought together all the ingredients for some kind of vanilla almond pastry but left out the sugar. It's a rich buttery vanilla almond powdery thing. It puts me in mind of what pomaded, powdered hair must have smelled like 250 years ago. Yet it's comforting.

One microgram more of tonka or licorice and this would be ruined. Winter/cold weather only. So I can wear this maybe two days a year here in the South😑

cdarrach

Almondy cyanide. Quite a powdery, soft, enveloping fragrance that clouds your mind.

ParfumJunkie

I have bought this one twice already through my points at Shoppers Drug Mart. I was introduced to it because my daughter had to do a project related to a Dior product for university (there was a traveling exhibit that came to the museum and this was part of project that ensued). She fell in love with Hypnotic Poison EDP and so she bought herself a bottle after the semester was over. I then had to buy myself a bottle for XMAS and then the next XMAS I bought her a 2nd bottle. I have a penchant for fragrances with almond - like Kenzo Flower Le Parfum EDP and Burberry Brit EDT. This does not disappoint - soft, warm, and sugary. It's definitely in my top 10 favorite fragrances of all time. I save it for winter and fall. My skin doesn't turn it and my skin turns a LOT of fragrances. It's probably definitely a date scent, but that doesn't stop me from wearing it to the office.

melusina1982

It might sound stronger than the original, but it's not the case. This one is definitely darker at first but becomes a lot softer than the EDT when time passes.
It goes very smooth and refined both on skin and clothes, don't be scared by the "damp" licorice note you get at first,it settles down to a warm spicy almond.
It is one of those you think you buy for special occasions and end up using all the time.Elegant and appropriate for most winter events, indoors and outdoors, maybe a little too much for the office, but application is key (be careful, this is not the wonderful and misty usual Dior sprayer, this one squirts a good quantity).
It is different enough from the EDT to own both. Think about a sombre Kenzo Amour.

Devin_ty

I looove it, I think I’m from this rare persons to prefer it way more then the ODT… Very sexy

AleshaA

A must have hypnotic poison edp I have the original 2012 and the 2020 version they are very different now, the older version is very strong and smells like burnt roses at the opening the middle notes smells like the new version very cherry like but the dry down is insanely gorgeous I’ve tried many designer perfumes but this one lasts forever and is so sensual the jasmine sambac, vanilla and tonka are euphoria together honestly dry down is to die for, especially the next morning. my sense of smell is very strong and there is nothing like this one out there by far the best scent created in this world
The newer version is good too a little sweeter and no burn smell just subdued but still has the original dna and is less lasting but I think this was reformulated for a more modern touch it doesn’t have the same dry down unfortunately fades away and you will be left with no trace of it the next morning, maybe on clothes it will last.
Overall this is something special when I wear it I feel like it was only created for me my beloved (;

ScentedPlaza

This beauty has been my signature for many years. The only perfume I have a backup bottle, just in case :) Hypnotic, sensual, story telling...
Let's make it clear - There are no dupes to Hypnotic Poison, because it's a vibe!

pkleii

my everyday scent. It’s sweet, very nutty and slightly smoky. If you love almond scents, this ones for you! also the longevity and sillage is insane, lasts an eternity.

Constella

The opening is ambery, smokey, & a bit "heavy". It's like a "serious version" of the EDT that sparks more cheerfulness. EDT & EDP have DNA similarity that contain sweetness from almond, vanilla, & tonka bean. Compared to the EDT, the EDP has more licorice & bitterness. On my skin, EDP is a bit less sweetness & more ambery

rezzmail

I really wanted to love this scent, everything about it is right up my alley at face value. BUT the perfume has a very strong licorice scent that leans into an overwhelming plastic odor. It's quite strong to where I get a pounding headache that I didn't want to think was the perfume cause I love the bottle so much. The perfume could be this really pretty Gothic candy fragrance, but it's too much for me. 💌

giri-boni

If you are used to Hypnotic Poison EdT this is NOT a safe blind buy. edT is creamy, warm, sexy. Well, this one also is, buuuut it smells a bit plastic and also licorice may be too strong for some people.

If you have ever smelled tonka beans, yeah, there is a lot of tonka here. Guess it is what rounds up the almonds and licorice.

pretty mini collector

Sex and candy. It seems to alternate between a salty, sweaty “sex” scent and powdery sweet almond candy. It borders on cat pee from time to time, too, but fragrances with orange blossom will do that sometimes if it doesn’t play well with the other notes. It’s not a turn off for me since it doesn’t completely cross over to cat pee. Dry down is strong on sandalwood and vanilla. Like sugar on the verge of carmelizing. It’s obscene and sweet. I was hoping it would go more towards L de Lolita in terms of licorice, but the licorice never makes a strong showing, and I suspect it’s the note making orange blossom turn a bit towards ammonia. It’s not what I imagined it would be, but I’m still glad to have it.

morganbowden

I reviewed this ages ago but I'm back to say, I've been wearing this pretty much daily in the colder months and I've lost count of the amount of times people have commented on it. It's not even my favourite scent, but it's such a crowd pleaser that I choose if for the ease. I used to restrict this to nighttime but I now wear it in the daytime too, men have actually gone out of their way to compliment me on it, asking what it's called. It literally seems to be hypnotic!

FaithHopeLove

The EDP smells to me like heavy incense sticks we used to burn in college. Yuck! I just can’t smell anymore after that. Very different than the EDT, which I find to be gentle and sweet like Heliotrope Blanc. *Update*: a few hours later, I wanted to add that the EDP also smells like dry ice or that odd sweet scent that comes from a fog machine. I’m now smelling the tiniest bit of heliotrope, but mostly still incense & dry ice/fog machine.

Pandalf

I went to the local perfumery and got a whiff of something enticing and delicious. I asked the Spritzerlady what I was smelling and she showed me this. Weird, when I was younger I thought this frag was overwhelmingly heavy and nauseating. I'm a 40 yo male now and maybe my perception changed? I dive into this cozy deliciousness and HAD to buy it. It's so timeless and natural with a good Sillage and projection! So glad I revisited this scent and this gourmand gem really is great for the coming up winter. According to the batch code it's a formulation of July 2021. I'm not mad at all about the reissue! The almond, jasmine and licorice paired with vanilla and Tonka bean are so well blended together that it is so smooth and appealing! It's a compliment beast and to me a winter wellness scent! But it all depends on the the dosage. The right amount makes this a compliment beast, over dose this and you will be suffocating people. So know your dose. 😊

SanjuktaB

I bought the Hypnotic Poison Edp in 2021 ..its in a red box without the black ribbon and it smells quite tamed down as compared to the 2015 version my mom has. The earlier version had a lot of the deep licorice and sambac jasmine notes and the performance was amazing. The newer reformulation is vampish, intense and longer lasting than the Hypnotic Poison EDT with focus on the smoky licorice as opposed to the coconut almond base.If you like licorice, this works nicely on cold and rainy days. But there is a metallic smell to this that makes it brooding and vampyrish. Its not comforting and cuddly like the Edt .

LisaMari

As this is the EDP it is supposed to be stronger than the original EDT and it is but in a different way - its sharp and dark, no where near as sweet... the sweetness in this is burnt, screechy and hurts my throat - poison is a good name for it.

Scentedalterego

The darker, more mysterious sister of the EDT. Liquorice, almonds, jasmine and decent quality sandalwood. Perfect for late fall, around Halloween. It's more intimate and somehow a bit less dense than the (older formula) EDT, but still has amazing performance, lasts between 7-12 hours with good projection.

This layers amazingly with a jasmine soliflore.

This has been reformulated into a poor performing generic scent with a cheap sandalwood base, I believe around late 2019-early 2020. At least that is when I noticed the bottle change. Luckily you can recognize the original formula by the black tag around the neck of the bottle. Also the Dior batch codes are easy: the first number is the year, so 5xxx will be produced in 2015 in this case. Get the original formula, you won’t regret it.

mevans

I tried the EDT and loved the dry-down but I wasn't a fan of the opening. The EDP is a love from start to finish for me and it's a compliment-getter as well. It's a thick and heavy type of scent. Syrupy and rich, nutty, creamy and sweet. At some points there is a sweet vanillic spiciness that reminds me of Addict. It's a delicious gourmand dessert that you don't want to ever finish. And with all that, it still comes off as elegant. Great sillage and lasts into the next morning. This is a favourite even within my rather obscenely large collection.

brionica1013

I really enjoy each of these notes individually, but somehow they did not combine well for my nose. Unfortunately to me it smells like root beer and Play-Doh, and it's an absolute hulk of a fragrance. I dabbled some on a test strip, smelled it, knew right away it wasn't for me, and left the room. When I came back hours later, I smelled it right away when I entered the room, as if someone had poured the entire bottle on the floor. The strength of this one is truly impressive and if you are looking for a very heavy sillage and enjoy the scent profile, give this a try, but it is absolutely NOT a safe blind buy, and may choke out the people around you.

I am disappointed in this. I love the EDT and I love liquorice, so I was certain that I'd love this even more. Unfortunately, this is way too powdery for my taste. I was trying to put my finger on what this reminds me of and I finally found it when I saw another review on here that mentioned that it smells like Insolence by Guerlain, I find that this smells similar to Burberry Brit Rhythm for Women! It is stuffy with the powder, I could swear there is iris in this.

Mari-Antoinette

I think notes are off. I have 100% authentic 2013 EDT tester that has notes listed on the actual flacon. The notes on the notes On The edt ares:
Top- bitter almond
Middle-jasmine sambac
Base-vanilla.
Same as listed above. It’s confusing.

I’ve tried so many perfumes, but nothing tops Hypnotic Poison. Nothing! I first purchased a bottle in 1999 at the age of 19. I thought it was so sexy and strong. It’s soft, vanilla, warm milk, playdoh scent stuck to everything. It permeated my clothing. It was incredibly noticeable.

Years went by and I tried other perfumes, but I always come back to hypnotic poison. There’s just something about it.

The newest version is lighter. I have the roller-pearl edt and there doesn’t seem to be much projection. It also doesn’t last as long. That’s okay in my book. I like the intimacy, it doesn’t scream anymore. I roll a tiny amount on for work and don’t feel that I’m annoying anyone with sillage. I think less is more with Hynotic Poison. I’m always sniffing my wrist all day and smiling. It smells comforting, maternally warm, like a hug, a warm cup of chai, a fuzzy sweater, a soft blanket. It’s sensual too. It makes me feel happy and good about myself, but I only wear it in fall and winter.

shoppingscenter

I bought a $4 vial of Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum from an online store, and I loved it immediately. The scent was warm, rich, sweet, and beautiful. I recently purchased a bottle. (That wasn't easy, since the EDP is no sold in the United States.).

This scent smells differently on me at different times of the month. Sometimes it smells like powdery licorice. But most of the time it smells like a smokey vanilla with a hint of spice. It's sweet and mysterious, perfect for Fall and Winter

Gugz

Hypnotic poison is warm and sexy 😍 I love it!

jakielius

This is a perfume that really shows how important body chemistry is with fragrance. On paper, I should love this - all my favorite scents have similar notes (vanilla, tonka bean, orange, jasmine, etc.) but I did not like the smell of this at all.

I think it could be the licorice, but on me, I get that very synthetic play-doh, root beer type scent and not the sweet, warm vanilla coziness I’ve heard of people loving this for. Absolutely adore the packaging and funnily enough, the longevity was very good on me, but something about my skin just didn’t work with it.

singlehandedbeauty

It just goes to show just how influential our personal body chemistry is in terms of how a fragrance plays out. I was certain I was going to love this because I really enjoy the EDT on me. The opening is a loud, unpleasant blast of licorice and orange blossom. Admittedly, it made my stomach turn a bit. I don't mind fragrances that have a classic "old-school vibe", but the opening felt very dated to my nose. The dry down was much more pleasant—warm tonka, marzipan, and jasmine with a touch of smokiness from the licorice. Fantastic! Things were looking up until the concoction turned weirdly waxy before ultimately settling down into a dryer sheet smell. I don't need to shell out Dior EDP prices to smell like straight-up hi-end Bounce. What a bummer. Longevity IS good, but it's a skin scent unless I spray it on my clothes. I envy anyone who can pull this off, but it's, very sadly, a no-go for me.

amandavolpe

The perfume I get the most compliments on. Hypnotic Poison EDP is sultry, heady and narcotic but in an uncomplicated, approachable way.

It belongs to night time. It blends really well with chilly, windy nights.

It also lasts forever. If you spray it on a scarf or a coat you’ll still be able to smell it weeks later, a lovely surprise.

Kuldeep S

This is a potent sweet fragrance having slight touch of almond bitterness. Black orchid Parfum seems to be its distant cousin.
If men can use one million and ultramale, they also can confidently use this.

Unefragrance

The EDT and EDP are like eyebrows: sisters but not twins. The EDP is not a more intense version of the EDT, and while the same vanilla and almond DNA runs through, they are quite different.

I don’t understand how people prefer the EDT, I just can’t get past the playdoh note. This fragrance is a LOT, a bomb of powdery licorice and almond, warm, vanilla, engulfing yet more well-rounded than the EDT. One or two sprays is enough, and I’d only wear this on nights out in Winter. But it’s an alluring scent that receives a lot of compliments when worn. I only wear this maybe once a month, it’s easy to get sick of it but intoxicating when you ration it.

Sillage and longevity are amazing, will stay on your clothes and skin all day.

ladyofwinter

this is definitely an evening / cold weather / winter perfume. I loved and used the EDT version for over 10 years, and tried EDP thinking it would be the same just stronger and longer lasting (EDT is really good for lasting too actually!!); it is a different scent, so try before you buy. It is also very strong, and two sprays is all you need.

you can really smell the almond, very nutty, thick, deep heavy vanilla sweetness, and smokiness. very sexy, nighttime scent for a confident woman.

amazing for lasting, stays on the skin even after a shower, on hair for days and on clothes until washing

DeltaK

Loved this on a friend, didn’t test on myself before I bought which was a bad idea. Wasn’t for me. All I could smell was a really strong almond/nut scent. Overpowering, I actually felt sick wearing it.

Mjchaelj

Strong vanilla-almond bomb, very pleasant. Getting a slight sun screen vibe from this, not in a bad way. I love it.

I was gifted this by my mum; from whom I developed a love of the original Posion collection, for my 25th birthday and it really is the perfect gift for such a birthday. It is simultaneously womanly and girly; a heavy sweetness (vanilla) with a gorgeous smokiness than really does smell like incense. The almond is definitely there though not at the forefront, and there is a powderiness that makes it feel as if it could be a vintage. This is definitely a sexy, confident woman’s perfume best suited to nighttime. I can imagine it would be amazing on a humid night where its headiness is amplified — the sillage is amazing. I’m getting femme fatale vibes, if I had to put this on a film character it would be Gene Tierney in Leave Her to Heaven (1945)!

fgamz

Having tested the HP EDT I was rather hesitant to try this one. Here are my thoughts.

The first spray was wonderful, I loved the licorice opening. I wish it lasted longer tbh it was so different and heightened my olfactory senses. I felt after that the perfume smoothed out with vanilla. A powdery and smokey type of vanilla, not incense type of smokey. I think it's the tonka beans that give this perfume depth but however its not for me. I was hoping more licorice believe it or not. More spice and more personality. I sadly didn't smell jasmine in this and wish it had a bit more of a kick but no.

The dry down smelt like church to me. Like what powder perfume my grandmother used to wear when I would hug her. And I Don't want to smell like church.

Mmm! I had previously only sampled the toilette, which took me a while to get used to due to the playdough note, but I ended up falling in love after a few wears. I ended up with this version due to a very generous giveaway and I think I like it more! It feels deeper, more seductive, and has less of the playdough note. But it still maintains the original DNA and is very similar. The licorice note is more prominent here. Such a comforting scent that just envelops you but it's also sexy and confident. There is a touch of powder and I feel like this could pass for a vintage scent.

RRHouse

I blind bought this-when will I ever learn! Very Pretty, but sadly doesn't work with my skin. I have a 3.4oz bottle for swap in US- PM me.

StarMagix

Took me some looking to find the EDP version of this beauty, but I finally did. I like it very much. I have tried the EDT version inside the stores but to me it smelled kind of like spearmint chewing gum. I couldn't get past that even though I thought it smelled nice. The EDP version has a deeper, richer, smooth sense to it that just wraps itself around me, and it last forever on my skin and clothes. I am not sure what weather it would be best suited for because I always choose my scent depending on my mood, and with most places being air conditioned, well it just does not seem to matter unless I am headed for a day on the beach, the lake, or just planning activities outside. Picking out notes is not my thing either. I always base my likes in the entire mixture and how well the notes blend together. I can tell this fragrance uses prime ingredients and is blended very well. If you want a fragrance that will take you from daytime to nighttime without having to respray, check this one out. If you want to feel upper classic and sophisticated this is a great scent.

Juliusq75

I got the EDP because the EDT was a bit of a blah vanilla on me, and I thought the EDP would have moore oomph. Unfortunately all the oomph was added to the licorice and some ghastly powderyness. The powder does die down fairly quickly so it becomes wearable, but the vanilla never really comes through for me. I added some Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille and that made it a lovely, deep, spicy vanilla that I was looking for. This is a nice scent, it just doesn't develop the direction I wanted it to. Might try layering it with some Addict or the EDT as well to see where that goes. Not awful, just not the vanilla I wanted it to be.

Sweetscents20

Has this perfume been reformulated? I just bought a bottle and the last time I owned this perfume was probably 15 years ago and it was a love at first sniff for me it smelled very warm and sweet a lot like the edt version with more depth. and now this smells nothing like I remember This new one smells very sharp and Medicinal definitely not a love at first sniff . Such a shame

SophieVictoria93

Bought Dior's Hypnotic Poison EDP because I smelt the EDT in the shop and loved it, so decided to upgrade to a perfume so that I could get the most mileage out of the scent.

Boy was that a mistake. Why do perfume houses do this? The EDP smells nothing like the EDT, and as someone who is not fussy when it comes to fragrances (though I have my favourites) this perfume borders on being unpleasant for me. It smells like a musty old ladies handbag that has been left behind the bar of a smoky jazz club for weeks. I have tried to make myself like it, however even if I could get used to this strange odour unfortunately this perfume gives me a headache every time I wear it - something that a perfume has NEVER done to me before.

After a few hours the musty note does dissipate into a pleasant and more tolerable vanilla, however it just isn't worth the headache for this considering I have other better-smelling vanillas in my collection. If you are considering Hypnotic Poison do go for the EDT, which smells like a delicious amaretto-infused desert.

pamplemousse2

Oh boy, this is strong at first and I can smell it strongly within 5" of my skin. This does have a slight vanilla sweetness to it upon first spraying, but I was taken aback by the fact that it also had almost a slight vintage powdery scent to it as well. It's not overwhelming, but it's there. It's also got a lot of licorice to it as well.

Less than 10 minutes later and the powdery scent is already gone. It's slightly more spicy now, from perhaps the tonka. It's gives it a warm and cozy sense.

I've had a hard time imagining most of the Poisons as dark and vampy once I've smelled them because they've ended up more sweet or Play-Doh-y or floral. But I'm surprised, this one I actually COULD see as dark and vampy! It's got a heaviness to it, it's not overly sweet, and there's significantly less Play-Doh smell. It also has some richness to it as well and I feel it's sexy and sensual. It's feminine and 'grown up' and seductive. It's more mysterious and I could actually say 'bewitching' or witchy this time about a Poison fragrance, for me at least.

30 minutes later and there is maybe the very slightest hint of Play-Doh, but only noticeable really directly on my skin and it's really not that bad. It's more like thick marzipan. I feel like the vanilla and spices are in full force now, too, and it smells creamy, from perhaps the sandalwood. The strength is still going pretty strong as well, smelling more strongly within 1" of the skin. This is absolutely for cold weather wear, as I think this would be a bit chokingly heavy and dense in hot or warmer weather.

I'll see how long it lasts.

3.5 hours later and it's a smooth warm vanilla skin scent. Every once in a while I get a whiff of it when moving my arms and projecting from my chest more.

6 hours later and it's a faint skin scent, but still slightly detectable with my nose directly on my skin.

13 hours later and there is still a very faint vanilla scent. I have to go to bed at this point so not sure when it'll actually go away, but I'm impressed the faint skin scent has lasted this long.

scentedlove

I am in love with this. Such a sexy, sultry, unique smell. This is the only perfume I've tried that I can imagine as my signature scent. I adore the incense note I get (not sure if that's actually what it's supposed to be). There's also a bright tonality to this that strikes a beautiful contrast with the dark, sweet notes. I hope this isn't discontinued because I never want to be without it.

byrum.tzn

Nobody can deny this is more similar to the vintage EDT then the current formula of the edt. Vintage is much stronger on the bitter almond and Licorice just like the EDP only less intense. long story short this smells like vintage hypnotic poison only with more Licorice and a smokiness to it, very heavy I can smell this all day and so can other people I get noticed very strongly when I wear this! Posted a review 7 years ago of this when it came out but just thought I’d give a little update seen as I now own the vintage edt from 1999!

punky9791

Testing this perfume for the first time today. Some initial thoughts:
* very nice smelling in the bottle---a sweet vanilla scent.
* once on my skin...not so sweet. Not so vanilla.
* The fragrance is reminiscent of 'hippie stores,' head shops, and the like--must be the tonka beans.
The people I live with have been saying "what's that good smell?" and they are referring to this fragrance, but it's not right for me.

clintjr82

Very Generic and a too hyped up scent. Its quality and a good blend though, better than the EDT. Its all Licorice, Jasmine and Vanilla.

Kristen_Marie183

This is a wow for me, I've had the edt and had loved it so much I wrote this one off. This needs to be worn on the skin in my opinion to project the vanilla and the almond, when this heats up and I get a whiff of myself it really makes sense that the two are sisters I get that fluffy vibe and creamy almondy sweetness. Way more sexy than the edt, way more "poison" if you know what I mean in comparison to the edt which seems more care free, more approachable, friendly etc. This smells so different than the other designer scents on the market it's not a boring typical sugary sweet fruity floral, this has character. It was been so bitterly cold outside and this is the warm, fluffy, deep fragrance that I didn't know I needed but it is AMAZING. For now It's a favorite in my collection of around 100 designer and niche, love this.

I think something is wrong with me,because i mainly smell a very spicy strong cinnamon& not in a very nice way, like Dyntene cinnamon gum my Nana wore...that i hate, sorry not something for me,yet i do love how richly smooth& comforting this is& the fact it lasts over 12 hours, great on the performing, just ,wasnt for me,its way to spicy with cinnamon, not in a sweet way either~

DyanaKP

This has been my signature scent for years. It was literally love at first sight, because when I saw the publicity around it, I knew it was my kind of vibe, the aesthetic, the colour of the bottle, the name, thankfully when I finally smelled it, the scent matched what I had imagined in my head. I was truly in love and I knew that moment, that it was MY scent, what I felt represented me best. Since then, I have become something of a fragrances addict, and I have tried many other fragrances that I love, but this was my first proper perfume. I use it every winter, I have gone through so many bottles, I have lost count. I never liked the original Poison, I have used Pure Poison during spring, but it is too floral for my liking, and I recently discovered Poison Girl, which is delicious and plummy, I currently use that one. But my first love will always be Hypnotic Poison.

Mad-Demoiselle

I prefer the original hypnotic poison, which is my mother's signature scent!

I bought this cause I was obsessed with Dior's Poison collection,

unfortunately, I have mixed feelings, my mother whose signature was hypnotic poison says that this one smells terrible on me for no apparent reason, I like it but after her reaction, I started developing negativity towards it...

Definitely different than the old Hypnotic poison... the Licorice is a turn off... and it's too sweet better off in cold weather

ingeneuxo

-Soapy scent.
-Mature vibes.
-I picture women aged 35+ wearing this.
-Not fbw. (-)

trixiesalamander

The single longest lasting fragrance I’ve ever encountered. This one lasts on my clothes for multiple days, plus it smells better the longer you wait.

Liz-frag

This perfume is too sweet and « in - your - face » for me I have to be honest .
Also I would like it maybe in winter because it’s very warm and comforting with the vanilla and the nuts , unfortunately the « winter » where I live only last 2 months :/
I ve tried it on yesterday on my wrist , took a shower , slept and it still on !! So massive long-lasting power for the ones interested !

duckiescents

I'm going to be honest, there aren't that many strong in your face perfumes like Hypnotic Poison EDP to me this perfume is sexual, gothic, very dark and lovely all at the same time. I am very impressed with this perfume, Yes I smell licorice, but to me it smells like licorice and leather mixed together. I am surprised Dior released this in 2014, since the EDT is toned down compared to the EDP.. The EDP is a true powerhouse, and I wish more perfumes were like this. Perfumes nowadays are way toned down, and barely have any character, but Hypnotic Poison EDP has changed that.

Rhapunzel12

Its really an amazing perfume..😍😍😍 after an hour you'll gonnna notice whats the real scent.. 10/10 for me.. 🥰🥰🥰

iszzieanna

I bought hypnotic poison all because of the hype surrounding it. I decided on the EDP because I did not want the play dough smell of the EDT. This fragrance seems like it is muted in a sense and more stripped back than the EDT. I also do not like coconut so I got the EDP

Now upon first spraying it, I really did not know what to expect. I was in a rush to get into the car when I was spraying my perfume and I guess because I had such high hopes I was expecting something like Dior Addict. During the first 10 minutes of me spraying, it smelt like a generic perfume smell and I could not distinguish the notes. I was so disappointed.

I then got into my car, in a Canadian winter and started to drive. However, after 30 minutes or so, I started to smell a sugared almond/marzipan/licorice smell (like cookies baking or a yummy food smell). I then realized it was me! The scent did change over the 8 hour wear. Around 2 hours of having it on, the licorice notes became stronger and it started to bring the vanilla forward. That's when I really stated to fall in love with this scent.

Overall, I really quite like Hypnotic Poison and I think I'm addicted.

AnaisLouLou

If you didn't like the marzipan note, coconut and sugary sweetness of Hypnotic Poison EDT, this could be for you. The EDT and EDP have very different constructions. The EDT sort of sings with clear and distinctive notes going through a progression. The EDP is more like cake batter, all mixed up.

I really enjoy the opening and mid of this EDP. In it, I detect a tiny bit of almond, a little of liquorice, jasmine, light woods, tonka beans. There's a cough syrup or cherry liquer note upfront in the opening, but in the nicest possible way. That blows off after about half an hour. After about 5 hours, it smells a bit sour on my skin. In all honesty, there is the faint smell of body odour with my nose up close to my skin. Then, that passes after an hour.

Nevertheless, I really like this perfume (more than the EDT!) because I never caught the surgary sweetness train.

This is actually one of my most worn perfumes the last few months. It's very calming. I put it on for yoga class even though I don't normally wear perfume at the gym.

I think the EDT and and EDP would be lovely layered on each other. They are only slightly overlapping in the notes. Really quite different.

There is nothing in the EDP which reminds me of Poison original.

victoria.mei1992

At first felt some almond, jasmine, but after that just a bland vanilla bean. I own Hypnotic Poison eau secrete and this is not as good as that one.

denoko

Some reviewers call it sexy, some calming. I'm in the second group, this perfume makes me feel safe. It's comfy like a mom's hug. I wear it during the sleepless nights and it really helps. For me not sexy, but really soft and beautiful. Sometimes that's all you need.

angienotesjunkie

This is so beautiful. A softer, more intimate version of Hypnotic Poison.
My holy grail licorice perfume

adriananegulescu

it gives me headaches , literally :(

Nicronomicon

I must respectfully disagree with this being the EDP to Hypnotic Poison's EDT...this is more like Poison L'Eau. If the original Poison is a vampire assassin in a leather catsuit and stilettos that relishes what she is and the mayhem she causes, then HP EDP is the younger, softer-hearted sister who'd rather wear Doc Martens, read Sandman, and save all the puppies and kittens. Sure, you can smell the evil on her, but she keeps it locked down...mostly.
Anyone who wanted this to be a more intense or deeper or sweeter version of HP EDT would be understandably unhappy (I was at first, too). I like this one, but only because I've dismissed the notion that they are related in any way. Once I acknowledge her true lineage, it's easy to like her, and much easier to wear her around on days when I'm not feeling like drinking someone's blood for money.

Wiktoriaaaz

This reminds me of my grandmas perfumes lol... shame, I’m selling it on auction on my eBay to buy the EDT version. If anyone wants it message me !

Lol! Fun fact, I did end up getting the EDT version and it was just as bad. On the hunt for poison girl now!

JacquieDS

Is this better than the edt?

mimahirn

What a stunner of an apple bottle! I love the aesthetic of the Hypnotic Poison apple bottles even more than the original. Very sexy vampy!

Sadly, that’s about all I am loving about Hypnotic Poison EDP. I have had and loved the EDT for years, so when I was able to get this in a swap I was very excited! Sadly, there is just something spicy going on here that smells so sour and almost like body odor, although very slightly. Like a slight cumin almost... It’s the same note that’s in Coco EDP and Samsara that I can’t handle. I am assuming it’s the licorice, however, I love them in Guerlain Petite Robe Noir and Lolita Lempicka.

As for dry down, there is the EDT vibe of creamy vanilla and root beer, and sillage and longevity are very very good. I actually think that this would be good for someone who does enjoy powerhouses like Chanel Coco EDP.

Sherine777

It is very similar to the EDT but with the Licorice amplified and the Bitter Almond slightly pushed back, but still very present. A bit darker and a bit less sweet.

I think the confusion might be coming from which EDT is it being compared to? I have the older formulation in the rubbery dark brownish red bottle.

From what I have read on the EDT page the bright red new bottle is toned down, maybe this is the one that is not so similar to this EDP?

Love it as much as the EDT. An Exquisite Vanilla!

zahraghobari

I don’t know why people keep saying this is completely different from the edt? I never owned the edt because the current formulation is barely there, I honestly could hardly smell anything even right after applying it. Such a shame as based on the reviews it used to be a phenomenal one years ago. However, I was gifted an eau sensuelle Version back in 2012 and this edp smells exactly like how you’d expect the more intense version of that eau sensuelle smell. I know the listed notes are totally different, but that’s the beauty of perfumery imo to compose a different perfume with different notes and concentration but still managing to keep it similar enough to the others in the same production line. I’m so happy I tested this perfume and half an hour later I knew I must have a full bottle. Thanks dior for making this beauty! You’re my favourite house ❤️

Rozalina

When I think of the kind of woman who would wear Hypnotic Poison EDP as her signature scent, I think of a very sexy gothic vamp adorned in dark velvet and lace who wants to make her presence known. So- not me, unfortunately. This is definitely very hypnotic, deep, and mysterious. I’m sampling this on my way to a girls’ trip at the lake, and I feel almost embarrassed to be wearing something so sexy. I normally wear whatever perfume i want whenever I want, seasons and occasions be damned, but this is truly so sensual that I would only be using it the few times I go out to the bar or something. I don’t see myself owning a bottle til I’m a little older- not because this is an “old lady” perfume (whatever that means), but because this is a “i have my shit together” perfume. I think the vanilla in here is reminiscent of the balsamic vanilla in Dior Addict and plays with the anise well, but on me at least, it’s definitely mostly licorice heavy so not blind buy safe unless you love licorice.
I don’t like the EDT because the almond+vanilla combo in it is straight play dough to my nose. While the EDP has that similar powdery accord, it’s much smokier and sexier! I’ll own you one day, Hypnotic Poison, but I’m not there yet.

Perfumedprince

Opens with a very Sweet and Balsamic vanilla, that dries to a floral and sensual vanilla that is cozy and comforting without being over powering.
Mid notes seem to last well over 12 hours on the skin.
The scent really drives my wife crazy in a good way.

perfume crazy lady

I love this powdery fragrance and it reminds me of trips to Paris.
It's a very romantic, feminine fragrance.

RottigrlNYC

I love reading all of the reviews about this perfume and how it affects everyone differently..And I as well, I don’t get any of the flower notes but oh my the dry down is everything. I am definitely a edp vs edt girl . I do own both but definitely prefer the edp. I’ve been trying to buy a vintage bottle but I keep missing the end of the eBay auction and miss out. My bottle is about 15 yrs old, but I wouldn’t consider that vintage by any means.

CompassionLoveWisdom

This is smoky, dark, bitter licorice and almonds, hint of non-gourmand vanilla. It is very dark, gothic, I sense no flowers, it is mostly smoky and bitter, sweetness is slightly present. That is at least how it develops on my male skin and I am testing it in the summer. Of all the scents I have (and they are all female perfumes) this is the most masculine leaning scent I have, definitely can pass as unisex. Will have to try it in colder weather.

EDIT: in the winter, one word, ORGASMIC.

Coquita

HP EdP is a very in-your-face fragrance that lasts forever, most suited for autumn and winter nights. It opens very sweet, with licorice and almonds notes, but slowly drifts into a more oriental territory, with vanilla and tonka bean taking the lead. I've never tried the EdT on my skin, but both HPs smell different on paper: this is less sweet and spicier, while the EdT is vanilla and almond heavy. Although this resembles my kind of perfume, tonka bean doesn't go well with my chemistry most of the time, so long story short, I'm smelling like a dirty sock an hour after applying it. However, I am sure it can work wonders for someone else out there.

StellaKapranos

I got this one by mistake. I wanted Hypnotic Poison EDT, and got EDP. For all the lovers of EDT- it is similar to, but at the same time pretty different from it. I like vanilla and sweet almond in EDT, but in EDP they are not so prominent. EDP is much `darker` and not so soft and powdery. It is very long lasting and you will definitely be noticed.

oudorchid84

Simply Hypnotic. One of my favorites, prefer the EDP than the EDT. Gives more of a Licorice, almond and boozy vanilla , not the play dough like the edt.

RachelSeun

I much prefer this fragrance to the original EDT and yes, they are different to each other. I would say the are more like cousins but you can tell they are related. The opening of Hypnotic Poison EDP does start off too sharp and can be very off putting but the power and the beauty of this fragrance really is in the dry down once it settles into the skin. This fragrance is arrogant, it makes not apologies and it is not for the faint of heart. A confident go getter would dare to make this their signature fragrance. It is so alluring, you hate it and then you love it and can’t resist going back to it. You will stand out in the crowd as this is not a mass appealing soft and feminine fragrance so use with caution!. This fragrance is for someone commands attention and dares to wear fragrances that really shows off personality and character. A beautifully crafted fragrance and bottle to match!

Banana ladyslipper

I recently deleted all of my reviews, because I am tired of reading nasty comments toward other reviewers that people make, just because they don’t agree with an opinion, or how someone WEARS their fragrance. But this one is so beautiful I feel it DESERVES praise. This is my second favourite of the entire Poison line. And I STILL have the original hp edt. The only one I prefer over this, is the ORIGINAL Poison. And it’s a VERY close call. I LOVE the jasmine in this one. This one’s dark, and a little dirty, which is everything I want in a perfume. I’m glad most people seem to favour the edt. The less people that wear your favs the better, am I right? I mean, unless it causes them to discontinue it.

bel.gravia

Dior definitely used the same vanilla as in Dior Addict EDP. The two are very related, in fact HP EDP is more relatable to Addict EDP than to HP EDT!
An intense vanilla floral, slightly spicy, heavy, syrupy. It has a suffocating, claustrophobic, cloud like presence. When you buy this perfume, you buy a statement beast which will not let you down :) stays even after a shower. Perfect for romantic dates.

sugar&spice

Having sampled this for a few days now, I confess I'm becoming a little crazy about Hypnotic Poison EDP. Though never a huge fan of the original EDT, this version seems to tick all the boxes for me: it satisfies all my olfactory cravings, whether for gourmand, floral or oriental notes in perfect balance - sophisticated but never too serious; fun and sassy, yet not juvenile. And its performance is off-the-scale good: it lasted about 12 hours yesterday before it faded to a skin scent; and my skin normally eats perfume. Yet even though HP EDP is both strong and long-lasting, it is neither cloying nor intrusive: I find with just a couple of spritzes I'm residing in a soft, fluffy, fragrant cloud that I don't seem to be tiring of. A hands down favourite, and a likely contender for my next signature scent. 10/10.

At first, I hate this. Hypnotic poison EDT is my ride or die, my #1 and the EDP was a crashing disappointment in comparison.... but I have to give it a chance, since it was such an expensive blind buy. So I wore it half a dozen times, when I knew I would be alone and no one else had to smell me. It went from a “hate” to an “eh”. But every now and then I’d catch a hint of something beautiful on my jacket, or gloves and wonder what it was. It took me waaaay too long to realize it was HP EDP! like, an embarrassingly long time. I find myself craving it now, that smoky spicy scent. It’s firmly on my Absolute Love list now.
If you’re finding yourself on the fence with this one, keep trying!

SailorV

Everything so many Hypnotic Poison devotees see in the original EDT, I see in this gorgeous EDP. I hated the EDT when I was younger, it smelled like a rubber glove to me and a classmate I wasn't very fond of showered in it. Nowadays I like it, but I still think it's overrated for being such a simple vanilla-almond scent. I guess it's my nose's fault, I just don't get the magic that others find in it.

But this one is everything! It has some of the notes from the original, the vanilla and almond of course, and also the rubbery facets, especially in the opening. But it just has so much more depth and mystery to it. The almond is rich and has some cherry-like aspects, it's like a frothy cream soda with a dark red candied cherry on top, but the licorice is dark and spicy and blended in so well. There is a sexy jasmine note floating over the spicy gourmand base, and something a little salty and lived in, sultry, not overtly dirty, just enough to make you wonder what it is.

I want to be a woman who smells like this, so I got to have a bottle. It's such a warm and sensual scent, maybe more appropriate for evening wear, but I would wear it whenever I feel like it.

This is also a perfect match for the red and black apple bottle. I have no idea why this is the less popular sister in the HP family.

VeroMikaela

If I had written a review to him before, I would have had to change it. I tested it when it was launched and yes, it had very good performances, it was a darker edt, with licorice. And because I had nothing to do the previous days, I went in to test them in parallel: edt vs edp. And, surprise, I thought I made the wrong bottle !!!! Edp currently smells like Mon Premier Parfum by Lolita Lempika! What is Lolita Lolita reformulated with cherries, without cherries !!! And with a lots of licorice !!! And that doesn't impress with the persistence anymore. Average, I would say. This is probably what the new Addict looks like after the 2019 reformulation, anorexic, soft, without shine.

joey.w

This quick review is coming from a 24 year old male who's never smelled the original EDT.

I LOVE this stuff! It's a burning, syrupy licorice, vanilla and almond with a dusty powdery vibe to it. I almost get cherry too, but it's not in the note listing. Quite linear on my skin.

Performance is the perfect level of strong. You'll be noticed but in a good way. It's strong and clear for hours.
This is my favorite kind of fragrance. Dark, thick, deep and sweet. My #1 fragrance is Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin and I get a very similar vibe with Dior HP EDP. If you told me that this was a Lolita Lempicka creation by Annick Menardo, I'd believe you without a doubt.

In my opinion, completely unisex! There are much sweeter "feminine" smelling fragrances marketed towards men out there. Don't let the "for women" scare you, there's nothing dangerously feminine about this.

And, I got my bottle for $20 at a thrift shop, new in the box. Can't believe this retails for $200. If you don't want to spend that much on this fragrance, I highly recommend looking at Lolita Lempicka for similar creations.

Perfumedsecrets

I hesitated to buy this because I don't care for the Play Doh scent of the edt, but I'm pleased that it's not so apparent in this version. I love licorice perfumes and my SO does as well. This is a sister of the edt, but she's brilliant on her own.

DrRosie

I should have read the comment below before I purchased this. This is nothing like the EDT which I love dearly. I feel like I wasted my money thinking this would be an intense version of the EDT. I struggle to find the similarities between the two I have yet to find it.

Lizzys

Why Dior could you not create the EDT version to be this intense and powerful?

For my review:

This has nothing in common with the EDT, so do not buy this one thinking you will get a intenser version of that one. This one is a strong and heavy incense-like fragrance with dominant licorice and jasmine. Definitely not a crowd pleaser but a true love for the right kind of wearer. I would say it is a polarizing scent but I like it more and more. My main problem with it is the powdery and almost vintage vibe. Take down the smoky powder and add almond instead.

The notes here on Fragrantica are unfortunately not updated. If you visit the Dior website you will find there is no almond in the EDP. I would however love some almond in it.

Performance is in the quality section for sure, but Dior should stop messing with their perfumes. Bring back Midnight poison and please give the EDT version of Hypnotic poison better performance. It is such a lovely fragrance it deserves some quality as well.

Preeti77

A warm fragrance more suitable to cold weather.Definitely for woman over 30 as it projects confidence and sensuality.
I find more spicy and incense like.
I smell Almonds,Tonka Beans,Vanilla and strong presence of white florals.
Very long lasting and two sprays on each wrist or decolletage are enough.
I recommend this - love the flacon too ,though I would have preferred it to be lighter on the spice and wood.

genny17

i am sure this was tweaked, like upon receiving it, the smell has changed, the older version was warm, enticing, this one is a powdery bomb, with a bit of a smoky spicy undertone..it stays the same from top notes to dry down,, i find it oldish, and in my opinion, it lacks feminity, warmth..this is a cold scent like the smell of a cold albeit very good cigar..
i agree that there is a bit of sourness in it somewhere..they should have left it alone !
i expected to like it more, but those perfumes get reformulated often, and the result with this one isnt that great.

Amascent

Im polarized by this scent. A part of me hates it and a part of me loves it, yet it keeps drawing me in for more. It starts off strong, sharp, angry and abrasive with overly harsh licorice, almond, and possibly (star of anise as that has a similar scent to licorice). At this point it is a little nauseating and headache inducing, but in a good way if that makes sense lol. After an hour or 2 it settles down quite a bit and becomes a little sweeter. Still sharp but the almond and licorice become more balanced, and pack less of a punch. At this point its nice. And I can't stop smelling my wrists. It's sweet, spicy, earthy, and sharp. Absolutely divine... though my boyfriend says it's appropriately named poison because it's literally poison. He hates it with a passion and whenever I wear it he instantly knows and rolls his eyes. Anyways, to me after the very angry start, it is amazing. It turns into what I imagine Candyland the board game to smell like if it were a real place. Just interestingly unique and beautiful. Though quite harsh and sharp so be ready for a kick in the ass. I can't wear it often, this is something you have to be in the mood for when you're feeling a little different. The bottle is beautiful, sexy and deep. Very evil queen snow white, and I suppose to wear this you have to be chaneling those slightly dangerous vibes. So just perfectly visually expresses that mood.

huda_jubail

Very warm, very cozy and feminine.

I smell Star Anise the most even though it’s not listed but it makes the scent very unique and welcoming.

The Jasmine Sambac is so intoxicating and intimate.

I prefer it over the EDT and I wear it in winter ❄️ especially in cloudy rainy and cold days.

The lasting power is forever on my skin, even after taking a shower it’s still in my hair, amazing longevity.

food.is_life

Beautiful sweet thick powdery fragrance. Gives me butterflies just by smelling it. Has a hint of a comforting vibe, like a sweater or a mother's hug. I don't see it as a sexy perfume, it has more feelings than sex appeal.

buonobi

Love Love Love this perfume.(2018 batch)
It's so sensual, intoxicating, sexy perfume.
One spray LAST ALL DAY on skin!
I could wear this all seasons, just summer 1-2 sprays.
Much much better than Poison Girl (weak lasting power on me).
And the Poison DNA in Hypnotic is just right and rich.

I've also tried the new EDT version.
P.S. Hope Dior could re-launch Midnight Poison!!

Tomia

I am a tried and true poison girl lover... that was, until recently. Over the past couple years I have moved from super sweet perfumes like poison girl and Black Opium .

And for so many years I have lusted over the EDT Hypnotic Poison, on other people. Its so rich and lush and entices you in! But, I cant wear the EDT. Its so overwhelming when its on, and all I can smell is vanilla, almond and musk and need to wash it off..

The lady at our perfume counter suggested I tried the EDP. Which I instantly liked, but then it went through a real EDT moment and I smelt the same overwhelming notes again...

Until I got home an hour later.. and fell in love. Madly in love. What was once a sickly almond vanilla latte on my arm, had suddenly morphed into a alluring rich scent. It was sexy and sophisticated and definately lived up to its name, where you just can’t quite put your finger on what it is about hypnotic Poison.. but there most certainly is something.

Perhaps its the sambac jasmine and tonka bean. Whatever is it, this one will keep you guessing.. in only the best of ways.

If you want a sweet, gorgeous, pretty fragrance, try poison girl. If you want your almond to call the shots, and entice people in, go EDT Hypnotic Poison, if you want a mysterious, alluring, all rounded but not sweet at all fragrance, EDP Hypnotic Poison is for you.

Just giver her time to settle down (;

Bioluv

I tried this out because a friend had this and the poison girl and I must say that I prefer this one. This has something extra with the sweetness which is absent in the poison girl. On me, it’s a bit too much on first spray; the powdery and sweet notes are at war . But after it settles and warms up on the skin, they balance out to give a sophisticated, MATURE and comforting scent. I’d say give this one some time to get to the best part.
This and Sensi by georgio armani give me a similar vibe; it’s probably the almond note that gives the same ‘powderiness’. Not to say they’re dupes of each other! Most definitely not. But they both smell like ‘mom’, if that makes sense.
Sensi is more of an simple, classic, comforting mom while HP is more sophisticated mom.
P.s. Don’t overspray this one. It’s quite potent; neither your nose nor the people around you will thank you for it.
Oh and poison girl is really nice too but y’know...

Orangequeen

This perfume really grew on me.
I’ve been wearing Hypnotic Poison since it came out, before all the unfortunate reformulations, and when I saw this EDP, I thought it might be something closer to the original HP.
I hated this perfume from the first spray.
It smelled overly floral and with some sort of a dirty, sour, almost citrusy note right off the start,. Very very strong. You would not want to spray this in a room full of people.
Original HP is strong as well, but this is straight up punchy. I would describe the HP EDT as a cloud of smell that envelops you. This EDP is a kicking tornado compared to that.
Once the initial shock wore off and the perfume started to dry down, I could pick out some familiar HP notes. About half an hour later the perfume started to smell very nice. The florals (jasmine?) started to die down, and the vanilla came out in full force.
Once the perfume settled down completely, you could definitely smell that it’s related to the EDT. It has the same enveloping vibe to it.
I couldn’t stop smelling it, something kept drawing me back.
I asked my friend what he thinks of my perfume, and he said that it’s my usual perfume (HP EDT), and it smells nice as always. I guess to the uninitiated it’s similar enough to smell the same?
When comparing both side to side, the EDP definitely smells a little bit more sour, but on its own I can’t pick that note out.
In the end it smells a little bit fresher than the EDT, with some sort of a soapy note that almost reminds me of Dior Sauvage.
You want to spray on your skin and not your clothes. On fabric the perfume doesn’t really get past the top floral notes.
The sillage is pretty good. It lasts for hours and hours, and rubs off on your clothes.
Overall the EDP is not as complex as the EDT, but still complex enough compared to most of the stuff out there.
Not a “spray and go” perfume (unless you REALLY want to make an entrance), I wait till the dry down to venture out.
It mixes nicely with HP EDT. I spray the EDP on pulse points, and EDT on everything else.

If you’re looking for the old HP, this is not it. It’s definitely a Hypnotic Poison, but a slightly different beast, and not a bad beast once you get past the initial shock.

Now if only they could do something to the HP EDT to bring it back to its original glory...

tulpe

Very interesting scent indeed. Starts very liquorice -like, but after an hour gets more warm and quiet vanilic/ woody scent. Great longevity. It shouts elegance in my opinion, 1 spray on but on lower body for day time, 2-3 for evening and you smell like real goddess.

zara0203

Big blind buy disappointment. My skin hates liquorice with passion and I just can't pull it off. I can hardly detect any flowery jasmine, it's rather dirty, animalic and dark, but the orange blossom it's definitely there. Sillage and longevity are average, and surprisingly, turns smoother after 3/4 hours. Asked my teen daughter as she likes sweet notes but said it smells like a strong and sharp men's fragrance. To me, it feels like this composition is unfinished, there's not a consistent structure and it's all quite unappealing. Black Perfecto by Guerlain is exactly like this one too, the overall impression is the same and they share some notes.
I'll persist on this one, bottle is pretty and I don't usually cash out for a designer fragrance. Next time I'll do my homework before buying anything composed by Demachy or containing liquorice.

cherrygalore

This perfume came as a surprise to me, especially considering I'm not a huge fan of the original Poison fragrance.
With Hynotic Poison EDP, I was almost blown away. I actually let out a long audible 'Mmmmm' when I first sniffed my wrist.

It's warm and inviting. Like when you're roaming the streets in the middle of winter, and everywhere around you is dark and blue, then you walk into an old dimly lit bookstore where the warmth instantly caresses your cheeks and hands. That's what this perfume feels like to me.

I can definitely smell vanilla, almonds and licorice first. I can also smell just a hint of cinnamon, but it doesn't seem to be listed in this perfume so maybe it's just me. But all these notes go so well together and feels like a warm hug. It's kinda spicy, but also very soft and creamy. It's not too overpowering either and doesn't choke you.

I'd say this perfume is definitely sexy, while still maintaining some discretion. It's perfect for a fall/winter night. I love it!

sugaryrose

My most favourite fragrance! I fell in love with it as soon as I tried it in the store and adore it from the beginning to the drydown. One word - mystery. That's how I would describe it. It's unique and doesn't smell similar to any other perfume I have tried. Mystical and transcendent, smells of wax, candles, honey and smoke. As if you've lit a candle; incense.
Very long lasting; projection is strong for the first 2 hours, then it gradually diminishes.

LeaB

I adore this fragrance. Have been wearing it since it was released and I never get tired of it. I love the 'dirty marzipan' scent with a slight spice but sometimes, depending on the temperature, a bit of floral. For me, it's weird, cozy, fun and exotic and elegant, and ye gods I just love it

valterferreira

Wow..! This is the real art of make a solid and perfect perfume! Love, love, love.. Totaly hypnotic!

camden-girl

Please God I'll be really good if you don't let Dior stop making this !! Thank you !
Still up for sale on Dior.com so fingers crossed it stays up we love this one :)

samantham-123

This.
This is where it's at. I tried this in David jones today because i have the edt in the newest formulation and its nice yes, but this is devine. I had to test before blindly buying as its too expensive for a failed purchase.
I was actually nervous about trying it as so many reviews say its really sweet and heavy on the liquorice, but on my skin its the opposite, Maybe it just depends on chemistry.

At first spray i couldn't even really decipher anything in particular, it was just like a sweeter stronger version of the edt, but like many others that have reviewed this one; i let it sit for abot 5-7 minutes and once it dried, it bloomed into something amazing.

The sambac jasmine is very smokey and incensy, mixed with the powdery sweetness of almond, a little nutty with the tonka bean and..a dark chocolate note? maybe thats how the liquorice presents itself here ( don't care much for liquorice in perfume but HP seems to execute it quite tastefully)
Its heavy, quite strong and if oversprayed could be stuffy and cloying, but a small amount will go along way so even a small bottle would last ages.
This is almost as if theyve removed all the fruity notes of the edt intensified the warmer base notes x100; as someone else has described: a stripped down version of the original

Its almost as if the edt is a nice bubbly happy girl wearing a satin blouse and pastel pink lipstick, and then at night she becomes the edp; a seductive temptress wearing vermillion lipstick and black leather, she is the darker, more intense version.

If you're in the market for a HP, and want the more fruity, vanillery, aniseedy scent then go for the edt. If you want less sweetness and more of a smokey incensy floral then go for this one, because is this dark beauty loves you back, then the results are quite magical.

Update: My practicality nose blind husband who only compliments me on a select few scents that i wear, always, always tells me i smell good when i wear this. I wore it to a wedding recently and got many compliments. It lasted all day and all night, so it's got some staying power alright.
I love it.

Christycaxxx

I really love this perfume. Unfortunately I never got the chance to try this one when it first came out but nevertheless I really love the one I just purchased. Definitely strong on the vanilla and almond notes with a hint of licorice but definitely heady. So far it lasted over 6 hours but sillage is soft. I love pairing this with Jo Malone’s Honey & Crocus as pairing them elevates the creaminess of the almond which is one of my favourite perfume notes and it stops the perfume from being too cloying on me. A beautiful scent and at last I found one that lasts more than 6 hours.

Update: Longevity definitely strong 10 hours with soft sillage. The scent is sweeter with licorice more prominent after a few hours.

vintagelover

I adore HP EDT and thought based on that, I thought I would enjoy this. I realised it was going to be different to the EDT but I find it actually borders on unpleasant. If you are an EDT lover do not blind buy the EDP. You could end up very disappointed and out of pocket. They don't even smell connected. I just find this one a sweet mess. Really disappointed.

mounen

@FireFlySF Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm after a copy of the edp specifically. I think I'm not going to be lucky there though, because I get the impression the edt is much more popular. Thanks though :-)

mounen

Does anyone know a smell alike for this? I like it, but don't like the price.

AlexisJane

I had to go through a bit of a battle with this perfume. I wrote an initial review for it over a year ago, and my thoughts and opinions have changed since then in a few ways.

I don't think I could emphasise enough with this perfume how important it is to test it. And when you do, do NOT smell it immediately on your skin, and do not smell it from the bottle's atomiser. It won't give you any real indication of how it smells on you. Not giving this time to settle on the skin may jar you into not wanting to ever look at it twice. The smell is horrifying on first spritz.

I tested this a while back in my local pharmacy, which sells a lot of Christian Dior perfumes. On first spritz on my skin (always test on the skin, ladies and gentlemen) I didn't like it. After it had warmed up to my skin, it was this warm, vanilla, spicy, woody goodness. And there was something lovely and smokey about it too, which I loved. I am an oriental lover, and when it comes to vanilla, I don't like it sweet.

And if you are someone who likes it sweet, steer clear of this entirely because it's not sweet. So if there was something about the original Hypnotic Poison EDT that scared you off for being sweet, don't be put off by this one. They smell similar, but the EDT is very, very heavy on sweet vanilla, like powdered vanilla sugar, almost. I did not like that at all.

That brings me to the bit that I hated and also ended up liking about the EDP. On the first blast, it is heavy on the aniseed. Oh, so, so much bitter aniseed. And this is initially what put me off because I absolutely detest liquorice, and the medicinal, scratchy smell the EDP gave off at first almost stopped me completely from wanting to have any more to do with this perfume. But it does mellow out on the skin. It allows the vanilla to bloom. And the way I would describe this vanilla would be closer to the smell of a vanilla bean pod itself; the rich smell, without any real sweetness.

In terms of longevity, I find that it sits at about moderate sillage for me, with a good amount of longevity. But as I suggested, I wouldn't recommend spraying this and running out the door. This perfume needs at least five minutes to settle down before you leave the house. The initial spritz is a bit too aggressive for that.

I tested it multiple times following my initial impression, and today, I finally bought it. And I don't regret it. The overall scent wavers in and out of moderately sweet to a little bit bitter and smokey, but overall is more like a burnt, powdery, woody vanilla. I find the overall composition very interesting, and despite my initial hesitation with it, have found myself lusting after it for over twelve months. And now I own it. Consider me sated.

To end this review, I would recommend giving this perfume a go if you tend towards darker, bitter, smokier perfumes. If you like sweet, I would recommend steering clear. And if you do test this, go into it with some patience and an open mind, because this perfume, particularly in the beginning, is not for the faint of heart, or someone who can't stick out the perfume taking a bit of extra time to warm up and settle down.

juicypear

One week after smelling Hypnotic Poison for the first time, I bought the 50 ml bottle. The bottle is beautiful, by the way – since it resembles a red apple, it had me expecting something fruitier. Clearly, I was wrong – there is nothing fruity about this scent – but also pleasantly surprised!

The first 3 – 5 minutes it smells strangely enough it smells like blueberry pie to me, just taken out of the oven, even though it has no notes that encourages this impression, but that is what it smells like. It smells like warm blueberries and crust. The almond is also noticeably present during these first minutes. After that, vanilla is the most prominent note, which the other notes complement beautifully. It smells just like what crème brûlée tastes like, and crème brûlée happens to be my favorite dessert. There is that scent of caramelized sugar – almost burnt – and then the creamy, thick, sweet vanilla underneath. Sometimes the licorice brings out something liqueurish of the scent, which brings me to the name of the fragrance.

Hypnotic Poison is the perfect name. It truly is, because the scent is intoxicating. It is sweet and delicious-smelling, but there is that hint of liqueur in the background that could get you drunk, if you aren’t careful. It is elegant, but bewitching and sexy. Sweet, but dark and deep – the sugar was almost burnt.

For some reason, my boyfriend didn’t fall in love with it. He didn’t hate it, he just wasn’t crazy about it. At the time I was very insecure and despite my love for this incredible fragrance, I put the bottle away and used the fragrance he loves (Demeter Fragrance’s Honey) instead. Recently I put some of Hypnotic Poison on and fell in love – again. I have decided to wear it from now on, as long as my boyfriend doesn’t detest it.

On me, the longevity is fine – moderate, I would say, and the same goes for sillage. I mustn’t apply it too generously because it can be overwhelmingly heavy right after spraying and give me a headache.

If this perfume were a person she would be a confident, mysterious and a little bit eccentric woman with an unapologetic laugh. She has traveled a lot, she speaks many languages and has read many books. She is charismatic. When she enters a room, people will look at her. When she speaks, people will listen.

SoftWisdom

A blind buy that I'm very happy with. Yes, a "deeper" version of the EDT; it is smoky and warm. Feels thick, but not overpowering. Soft and lasting. Medium sillage. I get a little of the cherry that some people mention, but mostly a smoky licorice/anise and vanilla. Not a very complicated scent but very pleasant and comforting. This is the reformulated one, without the black tag. I cannot compare it to the previous formulation (never tried it), but I will say that I far prefer this over the EDT, especially the latest incarnation which lasts on my skin for barely an hour, so sad really. This EDP lasts for several hours and I just love it! Big thumbs up from me!

redskyatnight

Hypnotic Poison EDP is very Mexican-vanilla to me. It's also one of the smooooothest perfumes I've ever smelled. It's the EDT minus the plummy tuberose, almond toned down, and doused in cinnamon. There's no licorice to my nose. Like the EDT, the EDP smells very soft to me, but I would still spray lightly because I hear this one's a bomb. It's either vampy or comforting, depending on your view of cinnamon-vanilla combos. Still debating whether I need a FB, but it's a very easy-to-wear perfume.
