Joy by Dior Dior for women

Perfume rating 3.38 out of 5 with 4,283 votes
Joy by Dior by Dior is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Joy by Dior was launched in 2018. The nose behind this fragrance is François Demachy. Top notes are Bergamot and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Jasmine, Grasse Rose, Peach and Cassis; base notes are White Musk, Sandalwood, Cedar, Patchouli and Benzoin.
Joy by Dior comes out at the end of August 2018 as an ode to pleasures and to life. It is conceived as a scent of energy, liveliness and softness, of happiness and good mood.
It is a fragrance illuminated by the vibrant smile of flowers and citrus fruits, the smooth caress of woods and the serenity of musks; a fragrance with a thousand nuances and facets, yet crystal-clear.
Dior perfumer François Demachy said: "JOY by Dior expresses this remarkable feeling of joy by offering an olfactive interpretation of light. This perfume resembles certain pointillist paintings that are rich with a precise, yet not too obvious, technique. It is constructed with multiple nuances, a myriad of facets that lead to an expression that is clear and self-evident."
The composition’s description by the brand: "Zested Bergamot and Mandarin explode in unison with flowers. Grasse Rose, in both Essence and Absolute form, as well as heady Jasmine, blend with these delectable fruits in a vibrant smile. Warm and creamy sandalwood embraces us in softness. An intimate signature, the clear and powdery whisper of musks creates a tender and sensual skin-on-skin effect."
The bottle is of a simple shape, crystal and soft pink, jewel-like. The face of the advertising campaign is actress Jennifer Lawrence.
Dior Joy is available as a 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum with an accompanying scented body lotion.

It smells so good and imo not basic or generic, smells young and clean. I seriously don’t understand how someone can dislike it if you do it’s probably because it just doesn’t smell good on you 😬
AlexandraRoseD
It took me ten minutes after spraying from a tester to fall in love. Had a decant of Allure, but eventually purchased a 30 ml Joy bottle.
Allure is classic and beautiful, but Joy is more uplifting and cheerful.
True to its name.
Florind
citrusy floral mature feminine ordinarily good scent
There are other good perfumes for much better price.
addangel
creamy, warm floral. quite lovely but a bit generic.
Usernotknown7
This just ain’t it 😭 especially for that price tag, it’s sooo overpriced but It’s Dior sooo… It smells very generic and has that makeup smell trail if u get what I mean , I can smell that citrus but somehow also kinda smells like baby powder , it’s not bad at all but just not that head turning or groundbreaking , I think this is a bit mature scent not suitable for teenagers in my opinion , I’d give it a 5.5/10
vonevol
it smells like generic sweet powder. This is how a normal girl would smell like, so I don't feel allowed to wear that.
Panterka89
I’m so glad that I finally bought this fragrance, as I’ve seen so many mixed reviews and was kinda sceptical about it. I am in love 😍 I didn’t expect it to last that long-sprayed it around 5 pm, went out, came back around 10pm, washed dishes like 4 times and went to bed…. I still can smell it 🙀 like what? It’s insane.

This is very lovely parfume but smells exactly the same as Chanel ‘s Allure EDP even though the compositions and descriptions of these two parfumes are slightly different on their Fragrantica pages.
Allure is the best parfume ever composed in my heart. EDT was composed in 1996 and EDP in 1999. Bravo to Dior to dupe Allure excellently, but why did they do that:(
In my country Joy is slightly more expensive than Allure. If it werent I would consider purchasing Joy to dupe my Allure once in a while. However at current pricing I see no reason to switch from the original to the newly Dior version.
Edit: I feel very sad when we comment generic on well known brand parfumes. In the case of Joy, it is the Dior version of Allure, a parfume from 1996. When Jacques Polge composed Allure, it was an example of marvellous creativity, unprecedented elegance, and uniqueness. Then it was imitated by other many other brands to day that the smell became familiar. Now we call these kinds of parfumes generic to disservice to the people composed them so diligently. Even the famous No 5 suffers from this. We comment that No5 smells like soap. Well No5 does not smell like generic soap, - the other way round- soaps imitate No5:)

I truly believe that the sprayer, despite being a lovely mist, does not dispense enough juice. Try overspraying to improve performance.
yara.xo
such a lovely powdery and soapy scent, it’s clean and fresh and i love the orangey notes. unfortunately it lasts like 2 seconds, and is rather generic so for those that do enjoy this scent it’s best to get a much more affordable dupe.
treez.are
This is a lovely scent. I am not ranting, probably cos I haven't paid big bucks for it, but received a bit remaining of it from my friend who couldn't get herself to appreciate it. At the beginning, it feels like a slight cross between Dune and Miracle with a bit of Envy Me. Soapy and luminous mix of flowers and sandalwood. May be unoriginal, maybe not, but I don't understand the hate some people have here, but it is definitely NOT obnoxious, come on. It smells classy and elegant. Not sure if there's Amber and Magnolia in it, but my nose detects some of those as well. Joy makes me happy.
xrhea
an elegant scent, perfect for any occasion, but its longevity is poor and the scent is quite generic, however it smells amazing!
thaochipnd
Gentle and elegant like a pure angel. But the scent is nothing special and easy to forget.
sisina96rv
Hm... I would rather name it Obnoxious, than Joy.
Very generic crowd pleaser, sweet but not pleasant. While I love the listed notes, and I do have perfumes with almost identical notes, this looks like someone created a mixture without not thinking about it much. "Let's add some rose, white florals, musk and citruses, and voilà - we created a perfume".
Not a good ratio of the notes, and probably not of high quality. Whereas Dior J'adore and Miss Dior varieties are very pleasant to my nose, this one is not.
dark-gardenia
Well, I don't really get the hate that this perfume gets, this one is actually one of my most complimented fragrances in my collection. There are dozens of other basic fragrances which are overhyped just because influencers or youtubers push them forward.
Now back to the fragrance. It doesn't have the most original name I know, I have a small bottle of Jean Patou Joy which I cherish and keep it for the rest of my life as it is discontinued, also the fragrance itself it's not extremely original as it reminds me not of Allure but more of Allure Sensuelle in my opinion. With all this in mind I instantly fell in love with it. As soon as I sprayed it the rose became detectable, sweet, classy, creamy almost like rose water. All the elements combined, rose, jasmine, peach, sandalwood, benzoin and musk emerge into e creamy delight, almost cosmetic, lotion type.
I have zero regrets about loving and buying this fragrance, it's one of the classiest releases in the past 5 years, I watch with regret how perfumes like Paradoxe, La Belle or My Way are so overhyped while quiet beauties like this remain outside the spotlight, but who knows maybe this is Dior's wish.
nikolgrim
In the first sniff it is giving me an absolute synthetic soapy scent, after some dry down there is some more pleasant floral with a hint of powdery feel to it. But I barely sense any of the listed main accords to be honest, and it's pretty weak in terms of performance.
preskitty16
Just ok. Semi sweet, floral, powdery. Good for everyday. Nothing special. Won't buy it.
Moonflower2012
I tried this when it first came out and I tried it again today, including the intense version. It’s a blend that doesn’t sit well on my skin. I get the feeling that with different skin properties it might have more warmth but on me, it’s cool and metallic and very generic.
Edit - two days later, I can still smell it on my coat sleeves. Initially it was strong and harsh but now I can detect the softness and powdery notes. This, I like, but I am not sure how to get through the very long lasting and harsh beginning. I think it’s my very dry skin that is the problem!
The13thHour
Joy is so pretty and a safe blind buy from Dior, especially if you are just getting into Dior perfumes and overwhelmed on which ones to try first. It's sweet, floral and woodsy. It's perfect for everyday and all year around.
Paddycake
I like this. I feel happy and comfortable in my skin when I wear this for me.
Update: I really like this. I tried a sample and loved it a while ago so I purchased it. I like it for me. I can spray a lot when i am at home by myself and feel happy and it is pleasant to smell. Doesn't make me sick. I should use this more often because I like it.
Update: I got a compliment that I smelled really good!
soymilky
Dior Joy is like the “pilates princess” sister of Miss Dior Blooming Boquet, it’s still got that sweet and charming essence whilst being less powdery and musky making it more suitable for busy day to day wear while still maintaining an air of poise.
alice_w
Girly, pleasant and musky, a safe choice for all occasions.
ru2
Over my fragrance buying journey, I feel like I have finally found my niche and that is definitely clean, fresh, feminine scents. And this one definitely ticks those boxes. Its hard to overspray this and doesn’t have a lot of projection. It stays close to the skin. I can detect a creamy or suncream note, I don’t know if that’s just me.
mirrorghost
this opens as a peachy musk and instantly reminds me of 90s style perfumes, except more synthetic made with modern components. next comes sandalwood and benzoin. a lot of benzoin. it's very warm and creamy. then after maybe 20 minutes i get some woods and rose. i am stunned people vote jasmine the highest, it's there but subtle and i find that the peach/rose/benzoin are much much more prominent.
Devved
It`s mostly just a powdery and soapy fragrance. It`s ok, nothing ground breaking. One thing good about it, is that it can be worn by any age. The bottle is beautiful. It smells sophisticated and doesn`t go into the 'old perfumey?' category. It`s ok, but not something I find worth purchasing.
Lotte_Liese
The citrus opening was uninspiring, but as it dried down, it started to turn powdery and musky, but still stayed fresh. It's not an unpleasant fragrance. It would make a good easy-to-reach for daily spring/ summer scent.
Addendum: I am a lover of two Jean Patou fragrances- Sublime and Vacances, and if the rumours are true that Jean Patou fragrances were discontinued by LVMH to make way for the 'Joy' trademark to be used under Dior, then it was a costly, erroneous decision. That Joy, even reformulated, was better in spades to this uninspiring musk.
sandradiana
I really don't understand the hate this perfume gets.
I find it perfect for people that like musky scents as well as floral, and the citrus? Perfect mix.
I don't know, I remember smelling it when it first came out and I was like wow I need this in my life.
I wear it in the summer as to my nose it's soapy, fresh out of the shower, flowery expensive soap only a girly girl would like.
fragheadny
I don't have strong opinions on this either way. It's a powdery floral with citrus on top. The patchouli is super super clean(if it's even really there). Not interesting, but not bad by any means. I see reviewers saying this is identical to Jimmy Choo by Jimmy Choo????? I don't feel like these frags have anything in common. JC is a thick, sickly sweet patchouli scent... to me they are polar opposites.
Emrahugras
A pleasant, pleasant and fresh aroma that I bought with a full bottle. Safe, gentle, carefree and harmless. Musky, floral and light citrus notes. Enjoy the subtle transformation. I don't care about the name and packaging, I just enjoy the fragrance on me. I like it even if my knowledge is limited.
Instant mesmerizing effect. A lively start with aldehyde and ylang-ylang. A hint of Chanel and old Dior. Floral, sweet, creamy and powdery. At first rose is predominant, then jasmine becomes more prominent. It changes in different ways on the skin. It has a floral-sweet character, with a creamy and spicy touch. Rose, jasmine, musk, sandalwood and patchouli. A classic fragrance revitalized with a modern interpretation. Impressive impact and longevity. Elegant, feminine and absolutely endearing.
hola gigi
Intimate, powdery, perfumey... not much sillage & not much character to the fragrance. I mostly pick up on a faint, fruity rose (more orange than peach) and the cedar in the dry down. Just not a memorable scent whatsoever.
Sheherazad
A pretty scent, fragrant florals (mostly jasmine). But I agree w/ the reviewer below; if you already have Jimmy Choo by Jimmy Choo, this one is redundant. They're twins. Actually, they're both multi-tuplets. This scent has been born ad nauseam.
Gemsense
I've never smelled Allure but I do have this and intense. This smells very lemony fresh with a creamy jasmine and it envelops my entire being and glows on me. I love it! Dior is a house that just works so well with my chemistry.
The intense version is NOT an intense version of this scent! No it's a different fragrance, it's lovely but it's not lemon smelling or creamy jasmine at all. I had intense first and I was expecting something totally different from this original and was thrown off by this at first. Now that I'm experiencing it from a new perspective without any expectations, I really enjoy it for the scent it is. It's pure, clean, demure, but loud and out there at the same time. I love Joy 💗
Lalunalynn
This is literally Chanel Allure in a different bottle.
It's a bit heavier on the jasmine tho, which I don't like. Nice try Dior but I prefer the original and best Allure ❤️
Kizzyb93
This one makes me so sad😭😭😭 literally smells like every other mainstream designer perfume out there Jimmy Choo by Jimmy Choo comes to mind , it’s not bad it’s really not but it’s not great….. they could’ve done so much with this. It’s just so basic in my opinion anyway longevity lasts about four hours on my skin and I don’t get much of a Scent bubble ☹️
This is something I’d wear to the gym
Elfin Will
This is a joke right? Insignificant perfume that lacks character. Where is the Dior imprint? It looks like a cheap feminine perfume. It's not likely to displease anyone, but it's so generic, you'd forget what it smells like and you'd still be unable to recognize it, even after several trials. And I really HATE the dry-down.
There is much better at the famous Dior!
Very nice bottle though, the fact that the cap is a magnet is very pleasant.
3/10
Heavenly Heather
I was given this as a gift and was excited because the bottle is pretty and I generally like Dior fragrances but this is a really basic. I mean it’s pretty don’t get me wrong but it smells like so many other floral woody perfumes on the market.. whomp whomp!
rasputin1963
Dior has brass ones to name their perfume JOY. And right as Patou is discontinuing theirs.
coconutkookie
I had a sample of this one. It is expensive soap but I don't want to smell like I just took a shower for the whole day. It lasts 5-6 hours on me. It smells too soapy I don't see florals anywhere. In the middle around hour 4, it started smelling pleasant for around 30 minutes.
DebiL1211
Meh. Don't hate the scent. I hate the poor longevity and that the perfume is generic and done over and over by so many brands. This isn't groundbreaking but if you don't have a fragrance similar to this then yes I recommend it if you don't mind the need to reapply.
soumayaela
Smells really nice, clean and feminine
But the quality is very disappointing, it doesn't even last 1 hour
Very expensive for what it is! Don't waste your money!
I'm not hating on the fragrance, but i have over 25 bottles and Joy is one of the worst in terms of lasting power!
mhubbard1961
My mini came in the mail today. It reminds me of some other scents, not sure exactly what. Maybe the original Chance? Pleasant daytime scent in tiny doses. It is potent. Not a date or special occasion scent. Dior is usually a ground breaker, but not this one. It's soon to judge, but unlikely I will repurchase.
Himani Gupta
An inoffensive, citrusy floral fragrance. Nothing to dislike about it, it's pleasant but I definitely don't want to put my money on a generic fragrance either.
screamadelica
i don’t dislike this scent, but i find it rather generic. there’s nothing terribly wrong with it per se, but there’s also nothing that makes me want to spend my money on it. although pleasant enough, it doesn’t do enough to differentiate itself from the myriad of other women’s fragrances in a similar vein.
CarmenTudor
I have a full bottle of Joy in case someone wants to buy it, we can swap too :)
Fragranceliker
I’ve seen this being sold forward in many places, so naturally I got curious and had to smell it. I do have to say that its a good scent, just very unoriginal.
minizelda
this smells like a softer version of Allure by Chanel. Very pretty
sniffmonster
Dior Joy is a fresh, flowery, old-school scent. If you like perfumes that smell generically "perfume-y" - fresh, pleasant, without a particular note being identifiable, this one will work and its affordable for the price. Personally, I prefer more modern scents, but this one wasn't bad as an after-workout spritz for the walk home.
kaprizulka
Just got my Joy in the mail. It's reminds me chanel allure a lot! I like it!
Rado56
Quite unique in my opinion
auroramaria
This scent surprisingly only has one flanker the Intense which I love Joy is a simple but still pretty fragrance versatile and feminine if you enjoy floral musky scents however not special in any way,in my opinion
ekrapf
This smell like nothing more than old lady to me, unfortunately.
Miruna
It is powdery, with a nostalgic/vintage vibe (that does not resemble vintage fragrances, but rather the idea of vintage itself). Musky, floral, powdery. I find it lady like, elegant, suitable as signature scent. Definitely does not smell as common as I've heard. It is not at all my cup of tea, but it is a nice fragrance.
Skinscents4Fusspots
I sampled this at the Dior counter and I liked the opening a lot. Juicy and watery and fresh and floral. The dry down gets more and more old fashioned and perfume though. It has a vintage vibe that many would dislike and is a bit jarring after the light and girly modern opening. Not my jam but I can see why some people would love this!
RollickingRenifleur
Nostalgic sigh. The Hollywood glamour of the 1970s deconstructed beautifully to reflect contemporary me.
When I scooted past the Dior counter at my local department store recently, I commented on something beautiful I could smell on the Dior sales lady. When she handed me the Joy tester, I rolled my eyes (to myself) but sprayed it on my arm to be polite. Wow! The citrus fruit & bergamot opening of the original Diorella from my youth smacked me in the face .... with delight! I've never smelled it in any other perfume (and I'd worn Diorella all through the 80s so I knew it well). It's more fragile and ethereal in Joy but the Diorella bones are definitely there. I sprayed the tester liberally all over my person and sometime later I was detecting a light, airy and dry scent which was soulful and elegant. The exquisite citrus & bergamot still present, a lovely light floral and dry musk rounding it out to what I thought was total disappearance on my skin by that point, until two different people in two different places asked me what I was wearing later that day. Now that's Dior delivering on great sillage.
oceanorchid
Each to their own, but to me this is one of the worst perfumes ever. By looking at the notes I can't really identity what I don't like. Can only describe it as harsh.
grapefruit352
Very fresh, transparent, rosy flowery fragrance. Reminds very much Miss Dior line. Will not offend anyone. I cant imagine someone feels hurt about this scent. The scent is very feminine and democratic. Not overly sweet and not heavy like some unisex fragrances. I cant stand anything unisex on me.
If you like Miss Dior- you will probably like this one.
jeannebelmondo
Smells like an Avon scent from the '00s. Some synthetic peach and cleaning product citrus on a bed of anemic patchouli. It gets a little more spicy and resinous with time and the rose note is pretty, but overall it is nauseatingly boring.
Gracile
Everyone has said what there needs to be said. I agree, it’s unoriginal, generic, smells too similar to Allure (though I do have both and to my nose there is enough distinction to own both, especially in the dry down), and the name is also plagiarized. But I have this and it’s my fruity-floral scent, after having acquired a rather mostly niche scents in the past two years. Recently, I was wearing one of them, and got asked why my home smelled of paint, making me realize that maybe once in a while I should reach for generic crowd pleasers. So in my fragrance wardrobe it’ll be Joy.
Tinabill
Joyless mediocre disappointment.
I’ll start by saying that I’ve always considered myself more of a Dior than a Chanel girl. I’d use Chanel for work as it is classy and widely acceptable, but at home the real me is either Dior Addict, one of the poisons, Dune, j’adore L’Or, or Dolce vita. What on earth happened to Dior?
Is it a bad perfume? No it’s pleasant and wearable BUT the name is plagiarized, the bottle is a reproduction and the juice is a shadow (for an orange-floral-patchouli, Coco mad. is 10X better), for creativity, nil, nada, Avon has better florals (Today and even Incandescence have more character).
I will use my bottle but will never blind buy a Dior again.
Imalthia
I'm usually a fan of these types of floral-freshie scents, but this is way too powdery in the drydown for my liking. It's weird cause I normally love powdery florals, but something in this made me sneeze and feel slightly nauseated. I also don't get any fruity notes in this whatsoever, just florals and some citrus. I don't hate it, but I ended up selling my bottle.
Belle92
Judging from the price, I expected more sillage... Too generic for me, imma pass
Yenistiletto
I really wasn’t a fan, took me over a year to finish it. It’s a pleasant enough scent but way too floral for my liking. You barely get the peach or sandalwood it’s just straight floral. I ended up using it to the gym. Although, I reckon for floral/ fresh fragrance lovers this will be great. Projection is okay and longevity okay too, nothing to rant about to be honest.
aureads
I tried it I got a sample, loved the sweet first sprays but nothing special resulted. In the middle of the day I could smell a delicate cocoon of fresh and enveloping nature. Sweet but no too much, the musks helps to make it comfortable. Will surely offer this one to my mom, would suits her well
Sherrywijaya69
This is NOT a dupe for allure, this is a lot more powdery and less bold, more wearable and less woody/citrusy, but also less unique. They may be in the same vibe, but it's not too much to own both.
albarine
to day, I have tried the sample of Joy on left wrist, and other similar scents on right wrist today : right was stronger, and the last was longer. , omerta happy love and a lot of laughts, another one had also a long last : jfenzi yes woman
stephaniesmellsgood
It’s pretty but something in this made me sneeze. I don’t think it’s worth the price.
thebloff
Dior Joy EDP has a fantastic and bright opening, but when it dries down, it smells too similar to Chanel's Allure, which is very dated. I also get a tiny bit of a Dior Homme Intense feel at the very beginning of the opening, but that fades quickly. 6/10.
Syrah14
Received a sample of this and finally gave it a try on a sunny but cool March day. On first application, it's pretty and feminine, with bergamot, jasmine, rose and a bit of musk shining through. But, it smells generic. It feels like any other department store perfume on my skin. As it dries down I do pick up more of the sandalwood, musk and mandarin orange. I do like this scent, it's pretty! But I won't be purchasing the full size. Too generic. Could easily give me a headache if oversprayed. I could see this being a nice floral daily scent for a younger demo, though!
Deneen_dw
This smells like a female version of Dior Sauvage. My husband has Dior Sauvage and I compared the 2 side by side. Very similar. I like both fragrances but I don’t think Joy is very feminine. I only smell bergamot and some spicy and woody notes. I don’t pick up the jasmine or peach at all. I would like to try Joy intense to see if it’s sweeter and/or more feminine.
lauren_louisa
Nice. Not horrible. Not much else to say really, it’s gone within a few hours and doesn’t project massively. A sweet little fragrance for when you don’t want to feel overpowered.
Mc1995
It’s nice, seems to be geared towards a younger crowd maybe? The way Chanel did with the ‘Chance’ line. A bit generic. The notes listed make it sound a lot more interesting than it is. The opening is synthetic fruity. The dry down is nice and similar to Chanel Allure but not as good.
Domenica23
I wanted to try it out and took the body lotion after testing the EdP. It`s wonderfully feminine, on me I smell the mandarines, the jasmine, the cedar, the sandalwood, all very well balanced. Since EdP do not stick as long as I want them to, I only buy body lotions of scents I really want and can afford... This one stays for more than 5 hours and is very soft on my skin. Moreover the lotion is already 2 years old and kept it in a cool place it still is good. The bottle looks great too.
KaliDurga
I am pleasantly surprised by this fragrance. At first sniff, it smells like every other department store floral fragrance. But it quickly develops into a beautiful jasmine and sandalwood scent. (I never got the citrus note.) And better yet, this one fragrance keeps morphing into 3-4 different scents during the dry down, as time wears on. It's really a great investment because it's very interesting and mysterious, at least to me. Great sillage and longevity. This is also a crowd pleaser. Easy to wear at the office or on an airplane. It's similar to Miss Guided Babe Power, to my nose, but more sophisticated and less scratchy.
Tishreen_iris
I find it like 212sexy sweet and have dior scent , nothing special about it , just a noisy scent , it gave me headache
ReminiszentSzent
I bought Joy when it first came out and I still haven’t used it up. It smells really feminine, sweet, quite unique and modern, actually. However, sometimes it gives me headaches when I spray too much. Overall it’s a decent perfume and I recommend It.
Jessicawallace98
I love this perfume. This is my third 100ml bottle I’ve purchased over the course of 4 years. I think it’s beautiful. Very fresh and floral, classy, definitely makes you feel like a rich bitch. Drains the bank account a little, but so worth it
Addict2Perfume
The rose, orange, and bergamot opening smells like coco mad and the peach-benzoin blend smells like allure. Joy is different because the jasmine in this rips through the whole fragrance; she is a loud bold girl! Instead of vanilla Joy has fluffy musks, but opens very sweet and powdery. I personally can’t imagine wearing the intense version of this, I have the regular edp and two sprays lasts me the entire day. This scent is very cozy and dynamic – it changes as it dries down, but is very feminine and inviting, great for the winter months coming up!
Adeel_nz
Great smell ☺️
csong
Just received my order of this perfume. While it is a very good smelling fragrance, I feel that I have smelled this before with other Perfumes. Generic, nice smelling bottle. It's something my mom would wear. Mature, clean fragrance.
It says it's citrus, but on me it's floral, musky all the way. I'd say I won't crave for it. I don't know if there's such an event that I would crave to smell it but it's a good daily wear if you want to just smell nice.
Dolina
✨💖✨This was so nice in my tiny sample that I was ready to jump in and buy a bottle. Today, however, I received a “deluxe” sample and immediately applied it. Why so different? I didn’t get the bergamot and mandarin, though the opening was floral, crisp, sparkling—and short lived. The dry down is powdery, musk, woods, heavy. It reminds me so very much of that old bottle of Faberge Woodhue my mother kept in the bathroom cabinet so many years ago. Old, dated, and so very disappointing.
Rilyn Saige Larkins
I love it! It smells great! I love Jasmine and Patchouli, and Joy represents what a unique, crisp, cool and refreshing fragrance should always be!
MimesOtto
Joy by Dior is powder city..yes, if you like powdery scents, this is for you. JOY is a feminine floral sweet patch..Dior DNA is there. It is not groundbreaking nor innovative, a pleasant smell nonetheless, with good longevity and silage,
M.Golightly
If you are into sweet, floral musky scent then try this. Not for me because I am more drawn to deep and crisp florals, florientals and orientals wrapped in incense.
It is preference and this fragrance is just not me.
AlaskanAngel
Free sample with purchase. Yet ANOTHER sweet, floral patchouli. Arn't there already enough of these in the world? Most people must love this combo as they keep selling. It was just not made for me.
Peachi3
A bit too strong for my nose gives me and my mum a bit of a headache also a bit too "mature" for my tastes I don't understand how anyone can describe it as fresh its giving me perfume mixed with incense from church but my new favourite perfume (Jimmy choo I want choo) has very similar notes and a similar feel just a lot less headaches, fresher and lasts longer I feel like I will reach for this one if I want to seem more mature!
theuntrainednose
I tested a sample on a warm day.
---
Nice non-offending citrus woody scent. The musk comes through as support, but the benzoin is very discreet. The vague bitterness of the cassis note occasionally appears, and vaguely flowers, indistinct. Mainly, on me, citrus peel and cedar with a base of musk.
Not bad, the kind of scent that does not tell a story to me but just makes me smell nice and approachable. I believe this would be a crowd pleaser. Personally, I feel it is nice and well done, but I would enjoy something that made it a bit more unique.
Would not go out of my way to buy it, but would wear it if offered.
Perazim
This has such an unpleasant scent, I had to wash it off!
RainbowGirl
The citrus in the opening is light, not sharp. Just a light pretty citrus. Then the rose comes through. A light pretty rose, with a light citrus.
Everything about this fragrance is light and delicate.
When it settles, the rose is dominate, with a little jasmine. The florals are almost clean smelling, but not soapy. The hint of citrus makes it fresh. I get a little sweetness from the peach, and a hint of cassis.
I can appreciate the beauty of this fragrance, and for someone who likes a beautiful skin scent, you should definitely give this a try.
If I was married, I would spray this all over myself before bedtime. It has that pretty feminine scent, that I WISH was my natural scent.
I may purchase a bottle, if I can find it at a good price.

I prefer this one to the Intense version, I tested both on my hands and Joy is fresher and younger smelling, also more optimistic - as the name suggest it should be joyfull not melancholic like the intense version. Intense version reminded me more of Chanel Allure (it was not so obvious, but there are similarities) very melancholic fragrance for me, and Joy should be optimistic, which this version is! I do not see lillac there and I had a feeling there is a bit of lillac in it.
Performance is rather weak, maybe on clothes would last longer.
Bottle is fine for me, rather simple and classy than showy and trashy.

I received a free sample of this years ago, hated it and threw it away and forgot all about it. I wasn't into fragrance then as a hobby like I am now, reviewing fragrances and reading this magazine is very new to me and I really like it. Anyway I received another free small sample of this in an order of other perfumes, ironically my bottle of the real Joy by Jean Patou was in this order. I thought it was a mistake or a cruel joke but there it was a free sample of Joy by Dior. I remembered the smell of it faintly from sampling it in the past but I got out my scent strips (no way was I spraying this on myself) to try it. And it smelled just as bad as I remembered. Horrible cheap citrusy, fake floral shower gel. There is no "Joy" in this scent, just headaches and heartaches.
stardenise16
I have mixed feelings about this one, I kinda like it but I feel like I would not pay like $130 for a Dior perfume that smells a bit cheap and fades quickly. I would rather spend money on a better Dior perfume like Pure Poison. I do like the bottle, reminds me of the bottles from their Maison Dior line.
AnAriesCusp
Echoing previous reviews. Good floral fresh fragrance simple girl next door perfume. I do get the slights woods and citrus too. l Will not repurchase atall though since it's not exciting or anything for me. A clean classy scent to go about on the daily when you don't want to be noticed much.
autumngirl
Not nice at all ( starts nice ends sharp scent just like sharp soaps) ..
Alexandrarosario
I consider the scent is very floral. I also catch a lil bit like an incence smell. I love to use it as a day perfume 💐

I've grown to love this perfume. The citrus/vanilla/peach/patchouli combination reads like a sweet orange blossom to my nose.Gorgeous and perfect for Spring.

I have Dior Joy 30ML EDP almost empty.
For such a well loved feminine brand like Dior, I did enjoy this perfume.
The bottle itself is nothing to complain about, it is a pink feminine fragrance topped with a magnetic lid. It looks classy.
The scent itself hits with a jasmine floral scent as soon as it hits the nose. I was quite surprised to read that the top notes as citrus, as this is not the case when it comes to smelling the perfume. It is a very feminine, light floral scent which I must admit holds class to it. However, the overall scent did not excite me, and is something I will probably forget. I will not be purchasing another bottle after this one. I did enjoy it while I had it.
The scent is best worn in the daytime, suitable for intimate enclosed settings at the scent is not overbearing. It cannot be picked up on another side of the room. It sits nicely against the skin and would be able to be noted by someone who is very close to your person.
The most I got from his perfume is its ability to hold a daytime classy scent. It is feminine and floral, however not enough to uphold nostalgia or remembrance. However I did enjoy wearing it as a light, classy daytime tone.
Overall 7/10

Not unique or special, unfortunately. Very much like a thousand others ... a bright citrus opening, followed by jasmine and a powdery, sour, animalic musk.
Ultimately a scrubber. I’ll be tossing or giving away my sample.

As soon as I sprayed this on my wrist and smelled it, I actually exclaimed, "Oh, yeah!!!" This is simply beautiful. Everything I wanted in a perfume!
However...
It's been ten minutes and I can feel the beginnings of a headache creeping on. Truly, sincerely, honestly - I hope it's not the perfume, because I think I found my signature scent.

I often read bad reviews about Joy and about how Maison Dior is getting worse and worse in their releases. Well, I didn't get to know vintage Dior before 2000 and the first Dior Addict, so here my partial impression on Joy:
It is a joy indeed because it is suitable for so many occasions. One of the few perfumes that are so well balanced that they turn into all year rounders, for all occasions and all ages. I know maybe 3 of those, incl Joy and Narciso L'eau (and can't think of a 3rd one quickly). It is not too sweet and not too bitter, not too dry to give you a headache and not too citrusy to make it too casual, nor too fruity to make it too juvenile and not too sharp to make it aged. Not too loud, and no discernible notes at least for my humble nose. This is what makes it one of my faves. My mother (late 50s and Envy Gucci fan) and grandma (80+ natural floral fan) use it with joy, too.
Em2018
One spray of joy intense is enough for me. I exchanged this for rose n roses because this was entirely to sweet and strong for me. If I could have tolerated it better it would be fine but 2 hours in and I had a migraine and could not escape it. Don't get me wrong, it smells great, but less is more in my opinion. The vanilla stood out and it was calming in a way. 3 sprays and I couldn't take it. You could get a small bottle and it would last forever. I just decided I like rose n roses better in my case.
lilacbaby
On first spray I hated it smelled strongly of the bergamot and orange. After settling on my skin it smells very clean with a subtle comfy sweetness. Almost smells like what I imagine a clean toddlers body wash would smell like. Not offensive and good for everyday wear. Not too citrusy and the middle notes are very soothing but a bit aquatic. It's youthful but not childish even if it reminds me of a newborn baby smell. Would recommend for 16-25ish. Don't love it, but it's not terrible, just not for me.
syarashin
This is one heady perfume that I don’t like although it has rose and citruses in it. On initial spray, the fragrance however doesn’t spell ‘Joy’ for me, but is cozy, very cuddly smell. I would love Joy if it could stay this way till the end but that’s not the case with Joy. It dries down after a few minutes to a sharp white floral note which I assume Jasmine looking at the notes. I know how Jasmine smells like, but somehow the one represents Joy is headache-inducing, produces powdery/ musky smell that I loathe. I only sprayed two at one time, not even over spraying it. Mind you, I use the tester vial of which the volume of one spray is not the same as one full spray from the bottle.
It stays considerably well on skin, and exceptionally longer on cloth. This sadly happens ONLY when you despise a scent. You could still detect its presence, even just a whiff. I sprayed it on my cloth to compare the smell it has on my skin. They share similar scent but disappears faster on my skin. It stays on my cloth for a few days (which is a good thing if you like the smell). There are certain fragrance you could be hating, but would somehow enjoy it on someone else. It doesn’t work this way with me with Joy. I don’t think I would enjoy this fragrance, whenever, wherever.
Lilyequis
I love this perfume. I loved the 2012 miss Dior and was gutted when they dc miss Dior AGAIN to bring out the sickeningly sweet, uninspired 2017 miss Dior.
Joy opens up on my skin with vanilla and jasmine. I love jasmine, especially how Dior does jasmine. But the dry down is why this is full bottle worthy to me, because I swear I smell 2012 miss Dior. It’s more subdued, but the patch, jasmine, rose, musk, peach, vanilla dry down is all miss Dior.
I love this perfume. It smells homey and cozy and clean. It’s not groundbreaking, but I don’t think Dior is known for that so I don’t understand the hate.
Sol0013
I smelled this at store. It doesn't smell special. Peach is mostly what I get. It kinda reminds me of chloe nomade.
veronique
At first, I receivde a sample ! this scent remembered me a great rose perfume for babies with a short lasting .
It gave me the idea to find a similar scent to offer it to a young girl ,,, and was surprised to find a best lasting, all day long.. I wonder why my poor nose finds a similar better than Dior....
Veronika95
This was a huge disappointment. The only good think I have to say about this is that it doesn’t last on my skin, not even an hour so I don’t have to smell it for a very long time 😂 it’s not like disgusting or anything, but I have much higher expectations for Dior and the price. It smells like something I could get in drugstore for few bucks. Very disappointing from Dior ...
and it’s totally old lady perfume like the person below me says. I will give to my mother in law, she might like it, she wears Avon usually so she doesn’t know any better in a perfume world 😂
lavender_and_teal013
The opening was very nice to me in a fruity fresh sort of way without veering into aquatic territory. After that, it became musky with some floral. I dislike musk and rose. I do get some rose in this, but it's not dominating like it usually does. I just get more of a generic floral with a Narciso Rodriguez-esque musk. If you like musk, this will likely be something you enjoy if you also like florals. I wouldn't wear this, but it's not unbearable.
Ninaleen
I received this as a sample with another purchase. I really wanted to like it because it’s so pretty and it’s very different from my usual florientals and gourmands. At first, it smelled exactly like Calvin Klein Contradiction, which I love, but that lasted all of five minutes and then it turned into powder. I still liked it, but soon after this, it turned into a generic white musk and smelled just like a hundred other fragrances, especially some Avon perfumes from the 90s. Still, this wasn’t a terrible thing as it made me quite nostalgic and I don’t have too many white musks in my collection anymore. But what really turned me off is that the entire journey lasted less than an hour. This fragrance has zero longevity on me. It’s a pass, sadly.
leonaV
This perfume is nice. Ideal as a present, because I am sure that the majority of women would like the smell. The perfomance is not that good but it is normal for perfumes like that. It is fresh, clean, floral and musky. I like the scent a lot. It is really visible that the scent is from dior because it has its DNA.
soumayaela
For people who don't understand why this perfume has a bad rating, it's actually very pleasant feminine and smells clean and fresh, BUT it lacks:
- originality: smells very generic
- performance: longevity is bad and sillage non existant, it's like it's a watered down perfume
- very expensive for the quality you get / for a dior perfume
Jess_Smart
Smells like VERY sharp baby powder. Makes me nauseous. No thank you!
TerrCasey
Very nice, fresh and floral scent. I normally hate musky scents but here it's not too overpowering. Strangely, it smells better on my skin than on my clothes. I normally spray these "floral at the front, musky at the bottom" scents on my clothes as they mix very badly with my skin's chemistry, so it's very surprising. Great spring scent. Sillage and longevity are decent.
Fussyfragrance
I picture the scene of a regal, young lady set in the Victorian time, wearing a very elaborate, pink dress with her hair in curls. And she is in front of the mirror, applying powder to her face and this is what I imagine that powder to smell like.

Joy....yes, JOY!
I've always low key been fascinated by this scent, from the advertising I'd have thought of a watery, fruity floral (watery, dewy fruits, not aquatic per se) and when I first smelt it on a strip wayyy back in 2018 I actually was repulsed! it smelt like baby wipes, overly powdery and in an obnoxious way, I couldn't wait to scrub it off. In 2019 on a trip to York I saw Joy advertised and thought I'd take a punt at that when I was in town as a holiday treat, I wanted to try it out again and maybe purchase it, but I couldnt find a tester, so I ended up buying Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb instead (and L'ombre Dans L'eau by Diptyque was a naughty extra treat). Fast forward to January 2021, I had this nagging feeling about Joy again, my birthday is next month and I decided that I'd consult the reviews here since in Wales we've been on lockdown since the week before Christmas and I can't go and sample this again, I saw conflicting reviews, some said it smells like Allure, others say it smells like shampoo and others say it smells boring, the curiosity got the better of me and I bought a 50ml bottle that was on offer as an early birthday present for myself, at the worst it could smell like Allure EdP (which I already own) and in which case I'd use it up and move on * added to basket *
It arrived, I tore into the box, sprized on 4 sprays and....peach, fleshy, fuzzy, realistic peach, thats when I realised the associations with Allure, its a similar peachy opening, drying down, however, Joy has its own personality. The drydown is airy, light "pink" white florals with some musky undertones and some mild fruitiness from the peach, its more shower fresh/shampoo clean smelling, its light, I'd also say its playful, further into the dry down the woodsy notes come out to play and it starts reminding me slightly of Calvin Klein Contraditction, its like a mixture of 2 perfumes I love!
The silage is soft/moderate and longevity is about 6-ish hours long, its an easy to throw on and enjoy scent, I see that people find this boring, personally, sometimes you need something thats universal and simplistic, you're not always going to want to be wearing something complex and heady, Joy is one of my favourite grab and go scents, dumb reach worthy and so far, I'd say repurchase worthy!
Onsmupske
I got this one for Christmas (my boyfriend) and now it holds a special place in my heart.
He selected this one because it smelled fresh, a bit woody and not too sweet.
In the beginning it smells very citrussy and a bit woody. Later on it smells woody, but mostly like he (my bf) is holding up a very fresh spring bouquet under my noise and that makes me feel very loved by him!
I think the name joy is a good choice for this one.
Is it a unique perfume? Nope. But I love it nonetheless because I don't care for to be a special snowflake. I feel loved! :)
I also have J'adore and whilst you can smell 'Diorness' in both of them, I prefer this citrussy floral scent to the fruity scent of J'adore.
Natnat7283
I have a very sensible nose and get allergies easy, so it's always a struggle to find a perfume that I like and that doesn't make me dizzy.
I got this one and wore it for a few months, YES it smelled like many other floral/sweet perfumes out there, but it was not too sweet which makes it better for my taste, however, after wearing for about 5 months, I started to get really sick of it because the sweetness became too much.
Sherine777
It is very Pretty.. Happy, Bubbly, Youthful (not childish).. and slightly shampoo-ish clean.
I really don't like the 'generic' word, but yes it is one of hundreds of fruity-florals out there, but when Dior does it, it is done well and that's the difference for me. Excellent blending and material.
I lean more towards the heavier perfumes but I'm really enjoying the lightness here.
My only complaint is I wish it projected more and lasted longer.
Also I don't think it's similar to Allure which is too peachy for me.
Somzkosic7
I got this one for my birthday without a chance to say no lol. I tried to get over this perfume.. i wanted to like it but naaaah. There is something about Dior I don’t like.. that’s why I don’t have any at the moment. Same happened with J’adore.. there is something annoying about both .. hard to explain. It’s not worth the money for sure. I can hardly smell anything zingy and citrusy tbh.. all I get is instant sweet like hell almost a baby powder punch which stays for a long time. Not gonna buy again and I do not recommend...
SoftWisdom
A very sweet pink fuzzy cotton candy surrounded by fresh flowers. Makes me think of a young happy girl. Cheerful and pleasant, if a bit boring; it basically smells to me like most pink perfumes in the department stores these days. I like it, but not for the price. I’ll stick with Black Opium, my favorite of this genre. Hey Dior, start making amazing perfumes again that are unique and last! The vintage Poisons are amazing!
soumayaela
Well Dior you did soooooo bad on this one! What a waste!!!
The notes are amazing the perfume smells really nice, the first time i smelled it i fell in loooooove BUT 30min later it was gone 🤔
Still can't believe how much the sillage and longevity are weak for the price of this i'm so disappointed 😤
Wore it so many times but still can't smell it after 30min and no one noticed it around me either
Don't buy this, a waste of your money! The scent is great it's sofisticated and clean BUT the performance is very weak and very pricy for what it is 👎👎👎👎👎👎 when you pay money for a dior perfume you expect at least performance !!
giri-boni
It is a beautiful fragrance. To me it opens with Peach and then heads to a powdery smell, rosey.. It may be a love for those who like this style of fragrance or Dior Collectors. It slightly made me think of Rexona Powder deodorant but in a good way.
chelseamurdock
The bottle design is blah. I don’t mind this scent. The juicy citrus zing in the opening is actually really lovely. I also get the slightest hint of spice (maybe cinnamon) - it’s very faint. It’s a pretty generic fruity floral scent, but still pleasing. This would be fitting to wear to the office or during the day time. It’s fresh and optimistic, but it’s also forgettable and doesn’t wow me.
Update: It’s really just a very boring perfume...not offensive, but not amazing or worth the money. I find quite a few of these recent releases smell so similar... yawn...so uninspiring. Is it just me or does Armani My Way smells almost identical to this? It seems they’re all blending together now lol... zzzzzzzz
Cataddicted
I really like this scent. It is not complex, which i would have not expected with a more expensive perfume. It is lovely, but not too out there. It does have a lovely variety of scents to it, and they blend together beautifully. But it is quite pricey. I would love for the scent to last longer for how expensive it is. There is something about the scent that, although not complicated, lasts in my memory.
>Happy Cat<
Sprayed a sample today. It is citrus woody scent with mature wibe. I thought to myself that it reminds me of Chanel perfumes, and seeing that ppl compare it to Allure I was not wrong.
It is personally not for me. I was expecting joyful fruity smell based on a campaign but it is very mature. Marketing campaign is a complete hit and miss imo.

I tryed a sample and dislike.. 🤷♀️
Oliviaf11
this isn't what i thought it would be. given the name "joy" i would imagine something fresh, uplifting and fun. to me this just smells like pure powder. disappointing.
Sienna_Elise
This perfume is as dead as Jennifer Lawrence's eyes
Bland yet nauseating. Dry down is exactly the same as Viktor & Rolf Bonbon but without the personality.
Chao
Another Dior's awful perfume. When I first opened the cap to smell it it got my curiosity but after spraying it... far away from the joy
nordhaul
wore in The morning and smells just like everything else
reapplied in The eve & that is when seems to come alive

Really odd one, this. It's like someone has smashed two completely different perfumes together.
Flowerbomb/La Vie et Belle 'modern sweet' with a tinge of something 'spicy and big in the 80s', like Opium.
And it's one of those perfumes that seems to assault my nose/airways, a big aggressive punch to it. Definite 'evening'/night out vibes, definitely not for day wear.
Doesn't seem to suit its name either, just not my cup of tea.
correspondencepersonal
This is a super soft pink vibe fragrance -- I can only smell hints of peony and something that smells like soft marshmallows. This is for someone who doesn't like a lot of silage and is seeking something that wears extremely close to the skin.
There is a "right audience" for this --
But this is not something that I would want in my own fragrance wardrobe.
I really want something that has more presence.
-----------
I made the mistake of ordering this Christian Dior "Joy" -
When I thought that I was ordering Christian Dior "Jadore' Joy".
The names are extremely close - and this is a much different fragrance than what I was expecting with "Jadore' Joy".
I love the advertisement with Jennifer Lawrence, it is well done with the pink high heels, pool, night sky, sparkling diamond like stars, the Beatles song, the piano in the song -- I love all of this. The advertising is iconic Hollywood type images and themes that I've even used in my own blog on Facebook. However, the advertising does NOT make the perfume.
The fragrance is so soft that it may as well be water on my skin.
I can't smell it, at all.
I'll have to send this one back. I really like a fragrance that has more presence than this. I like something that at least says, "I'm HERE"!
I really prefer a fragrance that says "I'm HERE - at least 8 Hours"... too.
A couple of other reviews questioned why Christian Dior would be making soft floral perfumes, I would guess that they are following the Viva La Juicy type perfume strategy. However, even Viva La Juicy has much more silage and lasts longer on the skin. It isn't completely WATER.
Avon's Prima (the pink bottle) and Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely - have a bit more presence than this... if you are seeking something in the same family - but want a bit more of a perfume smell.
koburi
Well, what can I say about this widely reviled perfume? Just this: my husband, who is either neutral about or actively dislikes 95% of perfumes, actually asked me to buy a bottle of this after I made my way through a sample vial. It has...a certain effect on him...if you know what I mean...without venturing into TMI territory. So there you have it. That is all I have to say about Dior Joy, and hopefully serves to explain why I own it :D
qofb
I don't really have many positive or negative feelings about this perfume. It's a jasmine- leaning, slightly citrus floral with a background of rose and a creamy, powdery dry-down. I do think that the rose stays background in the dry down with the cedar note becoming slightly more prominent.
I can see people might have been expecting something wow when this was released and this isn't wow. It's fine; it's generic, upmarket, mainstream and there's nothing wrong with that! I see this as something you might wear to a business meeting or to a very formal and expensive wedding. I rarely do either of these activities so I've no need for it. I also think that there are other fragrances that are better for such occasions. I would say that this fragrance tries to please the older market and also to attract a new generation to Dior. I am not sure that it has succeeded in either. It doesn't stand out so I can't imagine anyone becoming a die-hard fan of this, but that is only my opinion.
The dry down strangely reminds me of Vera Wang's Princess. I'm sure that Dior would be horrified at such a comparison.
Edit: I've been wearing this more. I've worked out that I need to be heavier handed with spraying: one is not enough, three or four means that it lasts longer and seems more rosy and deep. It's much better when you douse yourself in it!
inspe13
First of all: the advert is soo misleading. It's all about water and freedom. You would expect something young, fresh, aquatic.
But the fragrance...
First smell - indolic jasmine, something very much old-style, reminding of "my grandma's perfume". Somewhere over there you can smell mandarine for a very short amount of time.
And then powder. No, not like this. POW-DEER. It's like I'm smelling the actual powder, all dusty in the back of my throat.
The perfume is really nothing special. You will be better off with something from the Elizabeth Arden range if you want a neutral scent.

Update: This has no lasting power at all. After testing it some more, I’ve gone back to Light Blue for summer.
I don’t understand all of the negative reviews for this fragrance. I think some people just don’t like florals in general, or maybe some just aren’t giving it a fair chance. I admit that I was ambivalent when I first tried it, but the beautiful drydown kept me wanting to try it again, and now I’m finding it a must-have. I think this may be the most perfectly balanced fragrance ever. The patchouli, just detectable, keeps it interesting. It has a similar rose-patchouli vibe to Very Irresistible Sensual, but I find the patchouli in Joy to be more balanced, and the jasmine presence also makes it more interesting. On my skin, the musk is barely detectable, making Joy wearable during the hot and humid summers where I live. I’m going to be springing for a full-size bottle.
TrickyPine
wow. Another floral fragrance....Groundbreaking. I think the tail end of the 2010's was an incredible stretch for perfume houses who set the tone for the 90's and 2000's. From the Marketing campaign to the actual scent, nothing about this is worth your time.
This feels like another bankable scent Dior wanted to capitalise on, since the theme of the scent had that "been there done that" feel. I may be too critical here, but when a fragrance house like Dior or Chanel release new fragrances, it should be transcendent, just like how they have done in the past.
The release of Joy feels like we as consumers had been cheated on.
It is a pleasant scent nonetheless, it will definitely appeal to many who are new to the Dior scene. Maybe that was the intention, but this discredits the brilliance of Francois Demachy. Who I strongly wish had no say in this unnecessary release. Designer Fragrance houses are slowly but surely meeting their untimely death due to the saturation of the Niche market. I'm not even mad about it at this stage.

Perhaps it was just me, the perfume didn't react well to my skin, but this did not smell good.
This smells like diaper or feminine wipes!
I recieved a 2ml sample of this from Nordstrom when I purchased Kilian Black Phantom. Never tried a Dior scent prior to this so was excited to see if it was really all the rage. On me, it was not!
Very powdery and floral, and as I mentioned, it smells exactly like a diaper! Not a dirty diaper, like a fresh diaper or some of those feminine wipes.
No offense but I rather not spend hundreds of dollars to smell like a diaper. Hopefully this scent smells better on other people.
Jana711xx
Pleasant enough perfume, but very uninspiring. Typical boring Dior scent which they have done over and over again!! Joy could be called Miss Dior 2017, or Rose N Roses could be called Joy. They all smell exactly the same to me I would be wonderful if Dior could actually create an original perfume for once and as it has been said so many times it is trading off the name of a classic much loved perfume...not by me I hasten to add, I always thought that Joy by Jean Patou was pretty boring as well
Mont_Blue
This perfume is not particularly to my liking. There is something in which he feels very ornate. Perhaps the combination of rose with nectarine and jasmine. I feel it very floral, it is more the floral notes are perceived in the output of the perfume drying in a somewhat soapy and unbalanced jasmine. Something creamy somewhat artisanal and artisanal I do not want to be derogatory, but rather an aroma that perhaps I would appreciate more in a soap than in the same perfume to wear daily.

I love Dior Joy as an every day clean classy mature scent. It’s not your average sweet boring cheap scent out there but it’s also not fascinating. It makes a great signature scent and always gets me compliments without smelling like a perfume bomb ! When I wear perfume it seems to rub off on my dog because I hug her so much and when ever I wear Joy my son asks me if Molly got a bath . So I guess Joy smells somewhat like a shower gel ? Clean bath or shampoo like ? Very pleasant to say the least. I prefer it to the Intense version as it has better lasting power and is fresher and more classy . Intense is sweeter and has a vanilla note that makes this scent somewhat almondy or more average .
I think Joy is a great perfume , one of my favourites . Classy , pretty , clean and pleasant. I haven’t yet met a person who dislikes it. I wonder what flanker they come out with this August. Can’t wait ! Dior is definitely one of my favourite houses !

After smelling it in store and not impressed with it, i was finally sent a sample with one of my beauty product purchase. Joy by Dior, aka Jennifer Lawrence's bath water, is an abstract creamy floral. With Jennifer Laurence in a white ballgown akin to the ones you'd see in Say Yes To The Dress, joyously leaping into a swimming pool and spitting the water out after reemerging from the surface, the perfume is obviously designated to be a wedding perfume. The packaging is reminiscent of a delicate wedding band. However, the scent is nothing once-in-a-lifetime. The perfume is fairly linear, opening with a blast of abstract floral that feels so cold and unreal that it's almost hostile. What people would typically describe as creamy quickly follows, but to me, it is bittersweet almond with a jagged edges of something sharp cut right through it. Any illusion of this being something expensive is ruined by the cacophony of sharpness. I get none of the listed notes except maybe a little bit of cassis and the ghost of what sandalwood would be. There's no joy in smelling this. The pink liquid alludes to something much younger. However, it feels more like heaviness of age tinged with dread. If you enjoy how it smells, then i guess we just don't enjoy the same things.
Sillage is a bit less than arm's length. Longevity is several hours.
DT953
I purchased this today because I tried it in 2018 when it came out, and again by the side of Intense and I think both are lovely. I got this reasonably cheap and because I had some money and remember exactly what I first thought when I tried it: hating this is overrated and hard; it just smells fine. Perfect for when you want to smell nice but something more complicated is hard. The comparisons to Allure are totally apt, although I enjoy this more. Allure & Allure Sensuelle aren't for me, but this smells (on me) like Allure does on other people.
harperhilton
i can't get over the name, they might as well have called it No. 5 de dior. some names are simply already taken imo. :-)
dsty
Joy is by no means a bad scent, but something about it just exasperates me. I've smelled this type of sweet, feminine, kind of warm and sensual but somehow slightly insipid floral/vanillic/musky/powdery shampoo-like fragrance a thousand times before, most notably every time I've tested a recent designer scent these last few years, or so it seems. It just seems so uninspired!
On the other hand, it's not the unoriginality in itself that irks me. I myself have a few perfume categories that I can never get enough of, green fig scents, orangle blossoms and roses for instance; and however many slight variations on those themes I smell, however generically they are done, if they're any good I still love them. I guess a hell of a lot of people must feel the same way about this category of scents, and that's why there's such an awful lot of them. I guess I'm just jealous that it's not one of my own darling fragrance genres that dominates every easily accessible perfume store in the world...
márti.vincze
The amount of dislikes on this is misleading, at least in my opinion. This is not a stinky, bad perfume. I think this is a great everyday scent, inoffensive, unassuming. It's not a head turner, not blowing my socks off, not a beast in projection or longevity. What it is, is a middle-of-the-road scent that makes me feel clean, ready for the day, non offensive office scent. Develops in a nice skin scent after a short while, which I don't mind if I am working close to colleagues who are sensitive to scent.
I have over 200 bottles of fragrance, and so many are so out there I can't wear them on an everyday basis. This one is a no-brainer if I can't think of what to wear.
I think this fragrance would be good for someone who doesn't desire a large collection, doesn't want to challenge themselves or others with interesting scents, who just wants to smell good every day.

When I first smelled Joy I was surprised and, because of a 40% discount, bought it on the spot.
When I checked the reviews I started doubting, had I been too optimistic?
Joy instantly reminded me of both D&G Light Blue as well as Dior Pure Poison (which I both love) just not quite as citrussy as Light blue and not quite as flowery as Pure Poison both in opening and in dry down to the respective scents. Later when I compared notes this is not surprising.
Joy could be a well done mix of these two scents, with common base notes and a few shared middle and top notes of each. And that's exactly what it smells like. I do in fact smell the citrusses, the rose, the white flowers. Each gets a turn on my skin on a bed of wood, musk and resins in that order. The dry down is in fact identical to Pure Poison in the end.
Joy is not as in your face, energetic or exciting as light blue and it's not as present and romantic as Pure Poison, but does that make it bad?
No, after 8 hours it still left a fresh, clean scent, which is more than I can say for Light Blue, and it's far fresher than Pure Poison. Everytime I get a whiff of Joy it's like putting on your favorite cardigan at the end of a warm spring day, where rosy streaks fill the sky at twilight and the temperature cools and you're coming home. It's not out there, it's not exciting, it is safe and maybe it's generic, but it's comfort and happiness.
I don't regret my purchase, Joy makes me feel happy and stressless.
sarahnaja
Underwhelming, so generic and boring. It doesn't smell bad but I just expected so much more and usually Dior doesn't disappoint but this was a let down. it was just meh.
my2scentsmore
To me it just smells so generic. There is literally nothing interesting or exciting. I don’t sniff my wrist in joy. It turns a bit sour on me in the dry down. Just a NO for me. It is completely inoffensive, just not the scent for me.
lanelipton
Good for the office; it will offend no one. Hey, it's a pleasant scent, but it's just too plain for the price. And calling it "Joy", when there is already such a famous perfume of that name? Just weird.
I find myself preferring YSL frags to Dior more and more.
nickyt99
I just smelled this on my manager. I thought she was wearing Dior Addict!

This fragrance has received so much undeserved hate. I got a free sample of this in Dillards the other day. I tried it ready to hate it or just be bored by it, but I’m pleased to say that I like this quite a lot. It isn’t exactly ground breaking, but it reminds me a lot of Chanel Allure. I was very into Chanel Allure back in the day. I do really like this one. Orange, peach, jasmine, sandalwood, it smells like it has vanilla but it doesn’t (probably the benzoin)… it’s fresh, a tiny bit sparkling, modern, smooth, totally inoffensive. It’s very strange but it smells like Chanel DNA to me. (I heard a reviewer online say that his colleague said, “Well, Chanel hasn’t made any Chanel fragrances in years so I guess someone had to.”) That made me laugh. Also, this makes me want to pick up my Chanel Allure. So many good memories from the 90’s.
Another winner from Dior. Really like this designer house.

Bc of the bad rating I thought I’d hate this- I tried it out a few times at Sephora and it was one of the few fragrances I sprayed that I liked- it reminds me of Allure- it’s sweet and floral and fresh- great scent to wear on the daily- I can’t see this offending anyone-I didn’t find it overpowering- I’m considering to buy samples to really test it out and even get a fb- I think this is signature scent worthy - I will test it out and see💄

This perfume reminds me of Chanel Allure, but just on the first whiff (like a very distant cousin). It is semi-sweet, semi-light and it seems like its presence is more profound in winter than in summer. I think it could be a nice present for basically any age group, I do not find it particularly young nor old. I bought also a body milk so it lingers more on clothes. PS: the Ad looks absolutely NON - JOYful :)
judeaqua
Dear Mylancome thanks for responding promptly, I get it. Considering reviews that mention its similarity to Chanel Allure, I kinda understand. Will go ahead and try it when possible before I blind buy it.
JenniferLatifa
This is one of those “put you in a good mood” type of fragrance. The name really suits it perfectly. Great signature and every day wear. I really enjoy this one!
jellybeantree
This is great ! For spring or anytime . Quality fragrance . I will wear it this spring . My other favourites are Chloe Signature edp , Coco Mademoiselle edp . Has a slight classic feel to it . Fairly long lasting .
mylancome
Dear Judeaqua, Joy Dior is something peachy floral with a little bit aldehyde. It’s a perfume safe to wear all year round and to workplace. An easy to please type of perfume. If you already owned some all year round perfume, you don’t need this one
judeaqua
Why so many dislikes??? From the reviews it sounds like a good fragrance. I am contemplating blind buying it. Cannot decide whether to go ahead, the dislikes have confused me.
Bad_Girl_Bex
I think I'm really going to have to re-try this one. Because when I first smelled it, I was so underwhelmed I seriously couldn't believe that it was the Big New Release from Dior. This was a couple of years ago and Boots were pushing it heavily, with tester bottles everywhere. I wasn't even upstairs in the perfume section at the time, I was downstairs in the pharmacy area buying some ibuprofen.
Me being me, I absolutely cannot see a perfume tester without giving it a quick squirt, even if I was only in there for some OTC painkillers. Having owned a quite a few Dior's over the years, I was totally baffled by the scent that came out of the tester bottle that day. Really weak. Really generic fake flowery smell with an underlying hint of cat wee. I asked the girl serving me if she liked it or had at least tried it and she was obviously just as underwhelmed as I was...only she was trying to be diplomatic about it, because that's her place of work.
I really didn't get it. On paper the notes sound like they'd be a really nice summery combination, subtly grounded with a bit of musk. But it was just pathetic. I absolutely detest that Jennifer whats-her-face who is used in the ad campaign, but I was willing to overlook the annoying association, if it was a nice scent. As it was, I hated the whole 'blah' mess and left the store really confused. Maybe someone had misunderstood the brief and what we've ended up with is more Cat Piss Than Catniss.
But I see that lots of people seem really happy with it. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe I was having an overwhelmed olfactory moment or was temporarily anosmic. Who knows. But I do think I'm going to have to go back and try this pink juice out again, just to be sure that I haven't inadvertently written off a decent stank brew. Watch this space y'all.
senalica
Warm and powdery floral with some citrus notes. Sweet, cute, not much more to say about it. Definitely wearable and pleasant. Safe for work, can't see it annoying anyone.
pjspaceshit
I was thinking about getting one of the releases from Chanel - Allure line, but then I found Joy under my Christmas tree and I no longer need to get any of the Chanels. Of course, it's not the same scent, but the vibe they radiate around you when you wear them is very similar. I picture Joy as elegant and well behaved lady in a white shirt and black pumps running from her office to buy some salad for lunch. Although I by no means fulfill this description, I found the scent very alluring (coincidence? I think not!), classy, feminine and elegant, suitable for daily wear. It stays close to the skin, so I don't think many people could be offended if you wear Joy to work or other places where loud perfume could be inappropriate.
Black_Swan
I never had any intention of even trying this one. I've mostly given up on mainstream new releases because they bore me. I prefer the classics and the lesser known brands because they have more character. I got a free sample of this with a Nordstrom cosmetic purchase and so - having it in front of me - I sprayed it on and smelled. As I expected, I was bored - the usual boring sweet smell that has sadly taken over most of the perfume industry. About 30 minutes later, however, I got a wiff of something quite nice and smelled my wrist to find it was this perfume. I couldn't stop smelling my wrist, put more on later after my workout and then found myself wanting to wear it the next two days as well. This won't become a classic, win any awards, or blow your mind - but what it will do is make you smell awfully nice in a tastefully subtle way. One small spray to my wrist and the lovely dry down lasted most of the day. I agree it is overpriced for what it is - a lovely, subtle, tasteful, every day perfume. I purchased a slightly used bottle at less than half the retail price, and I feel it will be worth that. I compare this perfume to my simple, dainty gold circle choker necklace or my gold stud or hoop earrings. Easy to wear, easy to love, and always tasteful and unassuming. I love my diamond and tahitian pearl stud earrings too, but some days I just want less (and expect to pay less).

@julia_vernon
My mind runs to Calèche eau Delicate, Hérmes. However, I should own it or have owned it to be sure.
If you love research or are more involved than me in this world, maybe it will be easy for you to come across it. And find out if this is just my memory, distorted by time, or really the two perfumes are similar in something there in basis, they look alike in drydown. Let us know, ok?
julia_vernon
This is a funny perfume! I went to smell it several times before I bought it. First I thought it was absolutely awful. Too strong and too floral! Then next time I sprayed it on me and yep, totally still hated the floral smell it has. Later that same day I suddenly smelled something really good and wondered where does that nice smell come from?! It was the drydown of this perfume on my skin that got me hooked on this. So I went and boldly bought it.
What's funny is that I still have times when it's just too much "in your face" kind of perfume. Too strong, too floral..but then again, some days it's like a beautiful vail over me. I guess I need to wear this only few times per week and only a tiny spray so i do not get bored of it. But I still think it was a great purchase, the drydown keeps me hooked. Not sure will I ever buy another bottle though.
I am trying to find another perfume like the drydown scent. Does anyone come up with a similar like the dry down?? Help!
KittyDeBeauvoir
This surprised me.
I was ready to hate on this.
I am one of the purists, and am on board with the all-round disgust at Dior for stealing the Jean Patou absolute classic "Joy" name.
I had also read a few reviews that stated this perfume is *completely* underwhelming.
However! I tried this yesterday and today after receiving a sample from the Dior counter at Myer.
Yesterday, I fell in love with the gentle, yet relatively strong (stronger than Dior's "Blooming Bouquet" anyway) scent that evolves into the most *beautiful* sensual, comforting, pretty musk.
I also received a compliment from a co-worker saying, "It's so nice walking behind you. Your perfume smells so good!".
Yay.
I agree the scent is not particularly original. It's just not. This isn't really something you haven't smelt before.
Still - kinda impressed.

Kitty rating: 8.5/10.

I tried 4 fragrances, but did not write down which one was which, and got confused. Through the composition I got to know what two of them were, and of the other two, I put aside one which I thought was the cheapest one, because it was not nearly as nice and apparently well done, and thought well, the nicest one is Diors Joy. It turned out that the one I put aside as the cheapest and not nice one was in fact Diors Joy and the one I thought was the best one was actually the cheapest fragrance. This fragrance does have a facet that stinks literally, and that is on paper, not on my skin, and I think that is because the Jasmine they used is pink jasmine, rather than common or Spanish jasmine. Also, Francois Demachy seems to have used a molecule that Jacques Polge used to add to lots of Chanel’s fragrances and I frankly dislike. It has got a fresh harsh texture though, and sillage is not bad. I understand now why so many people above dislike it.

I reviewed this before and also mentioned the comparison to Allure EDT. Yesterday I went Christmas shopping with my mom and came by the DIOR booth at a mall. I decided to, again, test Joy. Because believe it or not it stuck with me for the last couple months! :) So, sprayed, moved on. Remained bugged about the whole Allure thing. So we decided to do a little side by side. And it turns out that Joy is actually not that similar to Allure EDT, at all.
When you smell the nozzle - yeah, Allure vibe definitely triggered. But on skin Allure EDT is a lot heavier on the sandalwood and especially vanilla - which Joy does not have. Joy stays airy with a little clean musk woven in. It also remains distinctly floral, while Allure does it "skin, but better, thing". Joy, on my skin, has this well-groomed, expensive lotion kind of vibe. So, yeah. They belong to the same family, but aren't close relatives. And I might purchase a bottle, shocking! :D
Arrchv
Joy is a very good perfume, I'm 24 years old and I find it correct for a person with my age. The first 20 minutes it's too floral, but the drydown OMG, lovely!
Remembers me to Elige by Mary Kay, it's exactly the same, just with a very long lasting.
olliesmom
I blind bought this perfume without knowing the drama behind Dior using Joy John Patou name and how unoriginal this scent is. I am putting all those aside.
The juice is very long lasting, moderate silage but extremely long lasting. The opening smells like a citrus air freshener, but quickly evolve to a smell that resemble Chanel Allure-esqe smell, but not quite, still a Dior class perfumery. To my nose, Chanel screams more sophistication than Dior.
This is beautiful when used with Outremer Vanille which is Vanilla Cotton Candy which is what i have in collection. I also tried it with Bath Body Work Vanilla Bean Noel. Smells amazing together. I am sure it works with most single note vanilla fragrance.
GiareDiLuce
Nothing impressive. I've tried it this summer, I haven't taken notes on my impressions and now I just can't recall it. I guess it was the umpteenth generic citrusy-floral-sweet feminine fragrance. I didn't hate it though, which usually for me is the case with Dior compositions.
perfumeninja
Very pretty scent. Reminds me of many things I wore regularly in the 90's or thereabouts, Extravagance di Amarige, Hugo Boss Woman, all those fresh wearable types I had and loved. Great for day wear and work.
I have a sample of Avon Honey Blossom on one hand and a sample of Dior Joy on the other and they are very similar. Very.
Definitely not a ground breaking fragrance, Dior Joy.
This one won't be iconic status like "the real" Joy by Patou. The name was a tiny bit irritating. Why not try for more originality?
All the same, it is a nice perfume and to young perfumistas who haven't smelled a lot of the older fragrances some of us have, this will be new and loved by them. Each generation needs their own versions of things we older ones loved.
Tigi
Of course it's already been voted away as I knew it would be from the "reminds me of" section. Regardless.
I sampled this on my hand yesterday and was SHOCKED at how similar this smells to Guerlain's Shalimar Souffle de Lumiere (which came first, by the way and not that long ago, either). It is the combination of prominent bergamot + benzoin that gives me this uncanny resemblance (which ends there).
The resemblance is so uncanny that I sprayed Souffle de Lumiere on the other hand and did a side-by-side comparison.
YEP. The similarities are undeniable to my nose.
I would take the Shalimar over THIS though every day because that - the opening - is where the similarity ends. Where the Guerlain lasts and morphs into that famous, beautiful vanilla dry-down, all Joy by Dior does - on my skin and to my nose - is disappear after 20-30 minutes of a shrill, undeveloped rose.
I'm very disappointed in you, Christian Dior, for this half-hearted copy with the unoriginal name. And the performance? Please, Elizabeth Arden just kicked your ass.
If someone gave me a bottle, I *might* wear it once in a while. I will never buy this fragrance for all the reasons I just gave.
No offense intended to fans, this is about my experience with this scent, not you personally.
ETA: Guess what I received from Nordstrom today with a (mailed) purchase:
another sample of this fragrance.
perfume_infatuated
To my nose, this powdery perfume embraces rosewater, jasmine, lily of the valley, on a sweet base of tonka, white musk, patchouli, sandalwood, and cedar--with a citrusy twist. I sense the "base" of this perfume is somehow similar to the composition of YSL Manifesto, while it's worth mentioning that much more work has been done on top of that to generate this classical rose smell, named Joy. At least that's my two cents.
I find the marketing description that promotes this as (((an ode to pleasures and to life. A scent of energy, liveliness and softness, of happiness and good mood))) is quite over-promising and misleading. Yet, it's a nice one for daily wear.
However, the "intense" version of it, has much better potential.

This is really pretty and simplistic but like another reviewer said it is beautiful in its simplicity. Both my partner and my brother commented on this one and said it smelt gorgeous, I think this is the kind of scent that men adore on women, I've found men prefer soft more natural scents over more complex usual sexy perfumes, other than Alien edp the majority of compliments I've had are on softer girlier simple perfumes, its also the sort of scent that I've been drawn to lately, it's like a soft feminine skinscent.
This perfume will in no way blow your mind but if you like soft delicate simple scents then this is for you, it isn't complex, what you smell on first sniff is pretty much how it stays but I really like it. Like somebody else said though it isn't worth the money for exactly these reasons, simple delicate one dimensional scents like these should always be cheaper, the price doesn't do this justice because people of course expect more bang for their buck, I really really like this for what it is, but i wouldn't pay more than 40 pound for it at a push.
astrologalexandracoman
just got it and is too sweet for my taste.is like walking through a candies shop where they have a vanilla excessive flavor. and i think is highly synthetic
CaraQ
Very nice. You're not going to go breaking the mold with this one, and people are probably not going to be following you around, panting like dogs; HOWEVER, it's a lovely scent. It's perfect for the office, parent/teacher meeting, children's Birthday party, etc... If you want to smell pretty and fit into any situation, this is your answer.
alabangcute
I bought this for my mom against my better judgement after my sales associate was insistent saying it is currently the best offering from Dior. After testing the Joy miniature I was given, I now know what smells like "granny's perfume". So not my mom's style. I think it's the grasse rose that gives that oldies vibe. I may have to return this to the store.
rufflesbows
Dior Joy makes me SAD :(
A fresher clone of Allure EDT, that literally disappears from skin in minutes no matter how much is sprayed!
The max I would spend for a big bottle of this is $30 and that is being generous. Come.On.Dior. Boooo!
Palmer Eldritch
Sillage & longevity is extremely poor for a luxury perfume. The scent is very generic (& as another reviewer said very watered down) and DEFINITELY not worth the price.
Honestly it's like a poor man's copy of D&G's Light Blue.
However looking at the positives: it's a somewhat inoffensive scent. Safe for office environment.
babyrose1985
I actually really really like this, it's really pretty in its simplicity. I absolutely LOVE simple pretty scents like this. The only thing I don't like about this perfume is the price, as much as I enjoy this it is not worth anywhere near what it is being sold for, it is daylight robbery.
These kinds of soft delicate scents should not be sold at ridiculous hefty prices, it's bugged me for years. Soft florals like this aren't very complex and they're performance is never great, that's the whole nature of dainty florals, they aren't loud and so i really think perfumes like this should be kept around the 30 poundish range, 40 at a push..!, the problem is that this is so expensive that people smell it and are expecting a masterpiece that projects and lasts (I dont blame them), but the issue with this is that because of that perfumes like this one get a bad wrap when in actual fact it is a really lovely perfume, it is simple, slightly powdery/musky with a really pretty floral smell, these are my favourite types of perfumes, so it isnt the scent itself in my opinion, it's the price..there is absolutely no point in selling simple, pretty uncomplicated perfumes that have delicate dainty notes like this whacking a massive pricetag on them and expecting people not to moan about the scent, of course they aren't going to be blown away!.
Overall i really like this one, it's really soft and feminine, a very soft pretty fuzzy scent but for the love of god please stop selling perfumes with notes that are supposed to be this delicate and soft at stupid prices. I won't be buying this but that is purely because it's not worth the price but that has NOTHING to do with the scent itself, I adore it..it's literally because soft scents like this are never worth this amount of money.
P.s to my nose this smells absolutely nothing like Jadore, I absolutely hate that fragrance, it is sharp, basically it is nothing like this one, this is almost like a soft talcum powder with a slight rose fizz but the fizz is only slightly their, it's very soft and delicate, nothing like the sharp Jadore.
This actually reminds me a little of Valentino Donna, Donna is one of my all time favourite perfumes and it is is a bit of a masterpiece, this isn't a masterpiece but to me it has a similar soft gently rosy powdery vibe, it also has a resemblance to Vivienne Westwood naughty alice, again all 3 smell different but all are soft musky type scents x
Nicki6089
All I get is citrus,a little powder and rose it's an ok scent
Moss in Snow
This smells like about ten other fragrances from the past ten years, particularly a couple of Lancome ones.
I don't get any citrus. For me it's just a big saccharine blast of candy-floral and it stays that way on my skin. Florals are not my thing as they tend to mutilate my sinuses so this is not something I would consider purchasing... I will probably pass my sample along. Two things though: some people have said this smells "cheap" - while I don't like it, it definitely doesn't smell cheap; also - it does not smell like Gabrielle at all to my nose.

Becoming my favourite number one . I have been wearing joy for weeks preparing myself for comparison for the new intense version. I have to say I was struggling to write a review for the intense as it’s beautiful apon first sniff and then evaporated into thin air , it’s extremely close to the skin and isn’t even comparable to this first version.
Joy is creamy fresh and classic. I love the base of musk, sandalwood and Cesar with the patch. It’s so creamy and clean. It is reminiscent of Allure no doubt however it’s fresher and more airy ,less vanillic ,less powdery and less heavy than Allure as I mentioned in my other reviews bellow. The original intense has character of its own and is super well made with a superb creamy airy undertone ,it gets better and better as it dries down. It’s genius !
The new version is denser , sweeter and less individual ,very nice but like other perfumes out there and sadly does not project and gets therefor no compliments and no attention .
I spray 10 sprays of it and dig my nose in it and enjoy it as a spotsniffer lol !
It works to wear both together !
Homage
Generic, watered down musk. Dusty old dried up roses and rotting, dying jasmine. The citrus is barely there. Its supposed to be an Eau de Parfum but only lasts 1 - 2 hours on me.
churinl
Smells very similar to Allure Chanel, as well as Un Jardin A Paris, which I both own. There is also a similarity with the reformulation of Samsara. This was a gift, and I do like it, but it will never be more than that. UJAP is a completely acceptable dupe of this as well as Allure, at a fraction of the cost.
EDIT - I really don't understand all the hate for this fragrance. It's perfectly acceptable at the least. I can only assume a large amount of it is directed at the blasphemous use of the name Joy. For lovers of the eternal classic, such as myself, I have to wonder where Dior got the chutzpah to use it! I'm sure some genuinely dislike it, but can't imagine that so many loathe it when there are far worse fragrances that get more love. But that's perfume for ya - entirely subjective!
style1015
This comes across as generic to me. It's a pleasant smell, nothing really offputting and I can see it being a crowd pleaser. If someone smells it on you I'm sure they'd like it but they probably wouldn't die to know what you're wearing. It's definitely a happier fragrance given the name, but not juvenile or super youthful, like some "happy" fragrances can be. It's not cheap or chemical-smelling, it's just... generic.
The citrus comes through, followed by the florals. Overall a pleasant fragrance, but nothing particularly noteworthy. I feel like I've smelled it a million times before. I will use up the sample but wouldn't put down money for a bottle of it.
I like it, but not worth the money and doesn't have that wow factor for me.
6/10 would recommend only if you like everyday, inoffensive, pleasant citrus/floral perfumes and you want to pay for the Dior brand name
Happydelight
Thank you Mr Demachy for creating this masterpiece! I truly love this fragrance and got it from my husband because he likes it too. It’s quite sensual muskwoody bouquet of flowers! The bottle is lovely too.
—}—@ darlingbud
Orange sherbet on a walk in the woods. Sweet citrus top notes give way to musk and woods. Cozy. Introverted. Joy? Jean Patou shrugs. Dior “Intime” peut-etre. Every time I smell this, it’s deja-vu. Early ‘90s?
Update: Citrus lingers on the card about two weeks after I sprayed the Joy tester.
delightme5
Take whichever Chanel Allure concentration, probably edp, now put on a pair of smeared dirty and foggy glasses. This is Joy dior to me. Foggy, semi sweet fuzz, unclear and bit sickly to me.
It appears doused in some of the thickest white and grey musks and feels a bit too chemical laden for me.
Those sensitive and predisposed to headache especially through chemical sensitivity - please tread carefully !

I purchased Joy when it first came out and liked it but I wasn’t completely in love. I wore it here and there but always had other favourites. When I heard of the new Joy intense coming out I thought I would revisit the original so i can tell the difference. Well after wearing Joy for some days now I started to fall in love with it. I ended up getting the body lotion and Just ordered the shower gel.
Joy is not just a young sweet pink average smell as so many reviewers say. It has a definite grown up flair and classy character. Like an old classic made Into something new and fresh. It’s vibrant and warm and seductive . It is not a girly perfume , it’s very versatile , happy and clean yet has a classic vibe to it , which yes reminds me of Allure. But I prefer it to Allure. It’s glossier and cleaner not as dense and heavy and old smelling as Allure. Allure is rich and heavy I find , Joy is light and clean in comparison.
They could have made the bottle a little nicer , like savage looks more expensive and better than the Joy the female counterpart. I am not a fan of the silver letters and the cap is slightly cheap looking. I do love the magnetic cap though. But again the male bottle looks better. Anyways I still dont hate the bottle. I can’t wait to have the intense version soon which will be more vanillic with the added Tonka bean and vanilla. I think it will be even better. At the moment Joy is one of my favourite fragrances.

I left a lukewarm review on this fragrance several months ago, and I'm here to amend my stance. My first encounter with this was on a tester strip at Sephora, NOT on the skin. After receiving a sample and actually, truly wearing it, my opinion has changed. This is really a beautiful perfume. Well-blended, long-lasting, classy and alluring. The opening is all gorgeous citrus and jasmine, but the dry down is what has me sold. Something in it is warm and rich and vanillic (benzoin, maybe?), it stays around for hours and I love sneaking sniffs of my wrists during this stage.
I have a deluxe sample currently that I reach for often, and may be tempted to spring for the full bottle once it's gone. I've alternated between wearing this one and Gabrielle Chanel (of which I do own a FB) most often this summer.
carmen.toro
I love it. I find it similar to Chanel's Allure. It smells young and happy.

I dont understand why so many people dislike this perfume it smells really good i have smelt worse than that ( victoria secret heavenly)
muahah
Citrus-lemon, floral, musk. Later joins sandalwood, cedar and rose. There is some classic perfume vibe in base. Smells like perfume if that makes sense. Slightly reminds some cleaning, air freshener stuff. Bit soapy, salty, but also sweet as citrus and flowers. Smells not cheap, but also not rich. Model and swimming pool fits this perfume. Almost unisex. Overall nothing special, but also not too bad or offensive. Depends what type of perfumes you look for.
grasslands
I know this is poorly regarded, in fact I had no intention of even trying it because the haters were so convincing. I had a 2ml sample thrust upon me in store. I put it on, not expecting much, and I was pleasantly surprised. I get a fizzy mandarin opening and then it’s mostly rose, musk and sandalwood for me.
As for the Allure connection, I wore Allure as a signature for a couple of years after it was first released. While I see a passing resemblance in the opening, Joy is quite different to what Allure used to be. It’s possible it’s similar to what Allure is now.
Yes, it’s a bit of a plain Jane fragrance, but like black t-shirts, white sneakers, or beige nails it fulfills a function of simple utility and that’s not bad. I’ve already worn it three times this year – that’s saying something for someone like me who has a lot of choices.
Will I smell like a strikingly unique artiste with a distinct and discerning point of view? No. Will I smell pretty good as I’m running around to work/ school/ supermarket/ gym? Yes.
Henglertdavis
Joy...I wish it brought me more, well...joy. It’s very pretty, slightly floral and would be a nice gift for a sweet young lady starting to wear perfume. To me, it’s mediocre. Not offensive, not mind blowing. I want to love it but I don’t.
mlrd217
I don't understand why this perfume has such a low rating, I just finished my sample and to me, it smells really good. It does smell similar with Allure but I like this better. It opens with a strong citrus, when it dries, it becomes woody with a hint of jasmine and vanilla (not even on the list??). It smells creamy, smooth and elegant. It lasts a long time too, I sprayed on my pillow 2 days ago and I can still smell it right now. It is in my want list.
HeavyBeatsUK
It reminds me of Chanel Allure. I would put Joy on one wrist and Allure on the other wrist to see which performs better - the better performer is the one worth having.

I haven’t smelled Joy yet but after reading a review below I feel the need to have an intervention before there is a Jonestown situation in the fragrance community. A user below said that “by law in France perfumes have to be drinkable”. This is absolutely 1000% false as I’m sure most people reading the comment would know...but just to be on the safe side before people start chugging their Dior Homme, I wanted to clarify that it is absolutely not safe to drink no matter where it is made, including France, as it’s full of denatured ethanol and not safe for ingestion. You can safely spray it but you absolutely can not drink your perfume safely no matter what sort of fake news may be being passed around on the internet. Dior isn’t making a French version of Joy for cocktail hour and an Arsenic and Old Lace one for the Americans. They are making it the same for everyone. So, don’t pour your Miss Dior on the rocks with a little umbrella and have it as an after dinner treat just yet. Your breath may smell lovely but your internal organs may not fare as well
Edit: Since Genny17 continues to claim that French perfume is drinkable, risking the health of Fragrantica members, here is the specific European regulations that say the ethanol/alcohol used in perfume must be DENATURED. That means it has an additive which makes it unsafe for human consumption. Visit: ec dot europa dot eu and see Article 27, (1) (b).

I spritzed this in Macy's while I was shopping. I liked it, it smelled "nice." It did smell unremarkable, quite similar to countless other fragrances who've actually done it better (yes, this is a really weak Chanel Allure). Everybody asks what's going on with the perfume companies these days and I think I'm on to them. They are treating their fragrance lines like they do their makeup lines. They've got their lower price point fare that they make as inoffensive and universally appealing as possible, use fewer (or lower grade, who knows) ingredients to make it cheaper for them to manufacture, because they're just trying to please masses and sell the max number of units.
Then for the clientele who are considered more "discerning," they bring out their exclusive lines that they make more avant garde and charge a corresponding price for the smaller number of sales (because the average consumer isn't going to spend $250+ on one fragrance). It wasn't always this way, but this seems to be the sales model now. That's why we keep getting the same thing over and over. And it's also why we keep getting the same movies made over and over. Sell to the masses. Make a huge profit. Rinse repeat. Sigh.

I hope to see more reviews based on the perfume itself, and on its own merit, rather than reactions to the name, packaging, endorser and overall marketing. I don’t know when — or if — it will be available in my country, and I’m interested in getting an idea what the fragrance is like. :)

One of the things I like best about not being a great perfume connaisseur is that I can only judge scents by my one simple nose.
I may know nothing (or close to nothing) about perfume history, complex molecular interactions (which I find fascinating, yet have no clue about)or the wonders of natural ingredients, but I know what I like.
This is a simple, pleasant, clean and very nice scent, and I liked it enough to buy a full bottle.
It's safe, harmless, fun, gentle and crystal-clear.
I like the musk, the flowers, the slight citrusy notes. I love the drydown even though it's really mild.
I don't care about the name, the bottle, the launch, the colour. I just enjoy the fact it smells lovely on me and is a very easy and pleasant go-to scent.
Call me an ignorant. I know I am. Still, I like it.

I bought it 2 weeks ago and it was LOVE at first sniff.
The opening it's a big burst of citruses mixed with some aldehyde note and I can smell ylang-ylang too.
It's very in style of Chanel and the old Dior perfumes. This brings back such a good old memories.
After this it start to be more floral and sweet. It gets sweeter and sweeter but in a milky, creamy, powdery way.
The most prominent was the rose at first, but after a few minutes the jasmine get stronger and bolder.
It changes on your skin, and it has multiple facets. It's a very floral-sweet scent but milky, creamy, powdery with a touch of spicyness.
Rose & jasmine mixed with powdery musk, milky spicy sandalwood and some patchouli.
It reminds me other perfumes but this has it's own personality.
It's like and old/vintage scent reimagined and sweetened.
The sillage and longevity it's good, it last about 7hours,and after that it's a skin scent. The sillage it's strong, fills the room.
It's very elegant & super feminine and classy.
In love, and Absolutely lovely and enjoyable scent.

The endless Dior race for Chanel has never been so 'alluring'. And so uninspiring. Having tested it today in Moscow's 'Rive Gauche' perfumery, I was first under kind of spell of Joy's pleasant soft and unoffensive flowery freshness, I liked it, even if the packaging looked a bit cheap and ordinary for Dior's new big launch. Well, to test it properly I put it all over me (no more business today, so no shock) and the result is very obvious: two hours later I am surrounded by flowery-powdery veil of Chanel Allure, more 'lighthearted' than the original (90's were still about real perfumes, even if Allure was quite a delicate fragrance). It is so funny, almost ridiculous, how this could happen and be real. How can you 'create' copycat of such a well-known perfume especially if you call it the next pillar after 20 years? Does it mean that nobody cares about reputation in perfumery business anymore? Or that there is a problem with a nose chez Dior? Or that we live in the time when memory is so short and nobody cares about what appeared on the market earlier? Shameless launch, I would say. Stolen name, copied scent, unrealistic 'plastic' image. Joy in not about joy at all, it's more about how lightweight and delusive are our taste and moral nowadays. Nice, creamy, safe and 'big logo' - that's all we need to give cash for another pink juice. It's kind of joy that doesn't make you happy but instead dulls you, making you feel devastated like JL on the ad page.

Jennifer Lawrence's bottled tears.
This is department store white musk and Earl Grey tea with cream. She might have a rose in her teeth, but it's faux silk and plastic.
Joy by Dior has none of J-Law's fun spirit. The musk is too cheap, the citrus too sharp, the rose too artificial.
I'm sad, too.

So I got to test drive this today and was force fed a sample of it too. The bottle was just as hideous as it is in the pictures. Looks cheap and forced! I can understand the idea behind a heavy "masculine" bottle and a pink juice but it feels uncanny and naive here. D&G Anthology L'Imperatrice 3 is a good example of a bottle that succesfully mixes pretty in pink with heavy glass.
About the scent. The first minutes reminded me of DKNY Women (skyscraper bottle) with a fizzy green opening of bitter orange and tomato leaf. However, like sparkling water, after the bubbles have evaporated all that you're left with is just undrinkable stale water. Half an hour in Joy winks at fresh clean patchouli similar to Chanel Chance or Coco Mad with a fragment of pathetic pale pink rose. One hour in it's nothing but a whisper of white musks (ambroxan it's me hey y'allll!!!) and... more white musks. That's it, the new pillar for Dior!
Sigh.
To think that I went to test out the new H&M line (by Oliver Pescheux) and found MULTIPLE fragrances that were tenfold more interesting than Dior Joy really speaks volumes. A colossal failure indeed. What is seriously going on with the teams responsible for these? No wonder the niche and artisan markets are growing faster than the universe because the once-trustworthy big powerhouses spitting out stuff like this. At least Coco Mad Intense was good, saved Chanel from a total flop that was Gabrielle. Btw, if you are curious for a good rose try Galop d'Hermes.

THIS IS NOT A RANT. I AM MAKING A STAND.
When I saw Joy by Dior pop-up on Instagram I was so delighted. Best filters used, sharp and stunning and dazzling photography wow #joydior everywhere! Viral sensation!
I thought what an absolutely beautifully designed perfume bottle and I'm sure the fragrance is going to be amazing. I mean it's 20 years in the making, oh yes! This is Dior's first new perfume release in 20 years!! Oh and did you know that LvMH Dior's largest stakeholders acquired Jean Patou? (Jean Patou created the perfume Joy) hint, hint...
So when I actually saw the fragrance in real life, bottle in hand I was absolutely shocked I thought it was a fake and I was not satisfied at all.
I sprayed the fragrance and the spray nozzle released the fragrance beautifully, (Dior never gets that wrong) the fragrance itself is a simplistic beautiful fragrance I will give it that, however it is not new it is not mind blowing it is not inspiring or something that we cannot create with other fragrances available in our collection or on the market, through layering. In my opinion Joy just wasn't worth the price.
The design is quite lazily done. The lid is reminiscent to a Dior classic collection like forever and ever by Dior, but once you lift the lid off Joy, it is so plain and cheap looking the joy lettering that is embossed on the bottle doesn't look as fabulous as the Instagram filter made it look!
I realise the designers created this fragrance for an easy peasy aesthetic look on Instagram or other social media platforms like Pinterest and YouTube it looks amazing because the bottle is clear glass and the liquid inside is a pale pink so it reflects and bounces the light beautifully which is fantastic for photographs and filtering images on social media.
Social media sells, when we, the perfume collectors, addicts, lovers post an image or review, we drive the design house's campaign, passionately, competitively and for free, job done.
In fact I already own Dior's 'for ever and ever' fragrance which is a beautiful, simplistic princess-like perfume that I treasure and was very expensive!
However if I purchased Joy I feel that I am allowing the continuity of effortless fragrance designers.
I am ready to explore new notes now! Aren't we all?
What about using jackfruit notes which has been so popular in the vegan community. I noticed this summer Jackfruit was roasted at every festival grill stop! why not experiment with new herbs and floral notes or spices and beans toasted or use notes that create nostalgic trails? The fragrance community do not need another 'safe, barely there ' fragrance in a fairy tale bottle we need a new trigger we need a fragrance that blows our mind that takes us on a journey that sends us into a new realm!
I am so seriously heartfelt and passionate about this, believe me.
If we continue to buy more of the 'safe bet' perfumes like joy I feel like we are contributing to lackadaisical and predictable fragrance designers that are not putting enough effort into exploring and taking chances and risks and making us the consumers and collectors feel excited about fragrances again!
I feel fattening their ever growing pockets means that we will not be forcing them to explore creatively. These design house perfumistas need to break a sweat in the olfactory laboratory, maybe they need to go and visit remote places in the world experiment with unusual florals, attempt to capture a moment in this 21st century, politically, ethically, romantically and capture it into a bottle.
How can they stir our senses and interest again, the loyal fragrance collectors and lovers how do they win us back!? Let's keep them on their toes , let's make a stand !
These successful Design houses are just taking a lot of my money. I agree creating simplicity in fragrances can be enjoyed, of course!
But there was nothing new to enjoy in Joy, a perfume sold for £75 for 50ml!? I Think not.
Joy has a lovely spray release, it's a pretty fragrance that you can obtain almost anywhere these days and I'm not giving up my hard earned money for a basic b**tch perfume.
And yes, of course I like romantic, daydreamy, simplistic feminine, beautiful bridal styled,'Charlotte from Sex and the City' kind of scents, don't get me wrong!!
But I also like my senses, my nostalgia and my mind to be surprised and I truly love an adventure and journey into scent discovery.
Dear Dior,

The biggest Dior disaster. OMG! It smells like cheap girl perfume from the shop by the bus stop. It smells a little bit of musk, citrus and some flowers which I cannot identified. It is a little sour a little sweet and that's it. I really makes me so sad. I have been waiting for new Dior fragrance very long. And I say NO! to this.
