Wow

I don’t think I’ve ever smelled anything like this perfume before. It has so much personality that I feel like Poison is wearing me rather than the way around. This is the kind of perfume I’d smell in someone and will keep looking for it, this is very mysterious and unique in all aspects.

I get why it’s not very well liked, and I’m glad it’s not, I think it’s proving its point by that. Poison is typically the king of perfume that your friends will refuse to try on, but the day someone will compliment you for it, just know that it’s genuine.

At first I smelled coriander and anise, then a hint of incense, honey and cinammon, the dry down has an ambery smell with something I haven’t figured out yet, I need to wear it more to be able to distinguish the notes more clearly though.

100/10, for its uniqueness, 1000/10 for the longetivety and the sillage. Though I think you can bring out more dimension with layering (I’m not sure).

Upahara

I like to call this the Dr. Pepper of perfumes, its got so many scents you cant figure out what youre smelling, you either LOVE it or HATE it. Its a vintage classic scent, so although it wasn't unique in the 80s, it will set you apart in the modern day because not as many people are wearing such a dark and mysterious scent.

Its not intense in a sickenly-sweet-cheap-perfume way, its intense in an expensive, spicey way, very incence heavy. It can be an offensive smell if people dont like spice, so probably dont wear it in an office. This perfume screams "im a sophisticated 60yo woman who likes to wear a leather jacket everywhere". I absolutely love it.

Dollycat

I like it very much. I have a vintage version and maybe the perfume has lost it's harsh and very potent smell but it's very different than i remember. In the 80ties and 90ties all you could smell when in a club is loads of Poison and Opium. Really the two were of nucleair power. So much that at that time i became really sick of these scents. It seems that the women were bathing in this stuff. Unbearable strong and potent. Now i use it myself but the juice is half the strength of what i remember. I enjoy this one but for me projection and longtivity is moderate. Within 2 hours it becomes a skin scent. 😊

asimpleperfumelover

This is not that powerhouse my mom used to wear religiously (and me stealing it less so) when I was little. I remember a mysterious, spicy scent fit for a strong woman, not this soapy, expired rat poison that I get on my skin. Maybe it's my skin chemistry, maybe it's reformulation. Anyway, so sad.

I am learning that I really don't like incense-heavy perfumes.

Este perfume é um dos perfumes que cheira a mãe 💕 foi através dela que o comecei a usar uns anos mais tarde. É bom que nunca o pensem em descontinuar...
Um dos melhores perfumes alguma vez criado ✨

Notes above is not reflective of the current released version of Dior Poison. I have both vintage and current version, and have hoard this fragrance as much as my budget would allow. Yes, if given only one choice of fragrance among many, vintage Dior Poison would be my pick. Today, I am wearing the vintage juice, edt. Depending on the time of the year, for me, this tuberose, fruit notes, and honey is very prominent during warmer temperatures; while, the smoky, incense, amber and balsamic exudes with fruits, honeyed, and floral notes mingles as my skin warms. I think, like me, notes mingle, interchange, present themselves in different orders during different times of the year - light, flowing, cotton dress, sunglasses, glistening-oiled skin, sandal / espadrille shoes in warm weather; fireplace, candles, resinous hand creams, sweaters, slippers / boots in cooler weather. Dare I say, my signature fragrance!? 🧧💝❤️💖💗

I just realised that layering together of Serge Lutens fils de joie and ambre sultan really recreates the feeling of dior poison, but with visibly higher quality ingredients.

It’s funny how things change!
When I was younger, I really hated this one. It felt so old and odd. I recently tested it out (I understand it’s not the same as the original formulation) but this wowed me. It’s a vixen. Dark and mysterious…the dark fruits had immediately shown up with the incense. It’s very intoxicatingly mysterious. It reminds me of a cross between coco Chanel and Victoria’s Secret rapture. It’s very 80s but it’s also very chic. It’s deep…something that’s a stark contrast of what’s in fashion these days. As someone who’s venturing more into techno and underground subcultures, this feels like it would pair well with the black vinyl and latex of these scenes. It’s mysterious and intriguing me to try it out again so I can better understand its composition.
I’ve bought a 1oz bottle- poison leans very retro, but it’s very nice. It’s something that is very bold and daring- I’ll use it only for certain events. I feel like there’s a plummy menthol note in it? A bit Smokey, but not overwhelmingly dry. Very very daring- this is not one to attract and seduce. It’s the definition of if looks can kill.

As ive said before, back when this came out it wasn't marketed to “goth girls” at all.

It was marketed to appeal to a FACET of a woman's personality.
ANY AND ALL women.
PLAYFULLY.

Fairy tales, and romance.

Again… this perfume was meant to be sexy, playful, romantic, and mysterious.

It wasnt meant to be a punk or goth perfume.

I was there in 85 and my gorgeous blonde stepmother wore it. She did her jane fonda workout in the living room, before getting ready for work. She was a gorgeous, classy stylish ex hippie, and not goth. She was a “health nut” (as we called it back then).

Our house smelled like this everyday … lingering in the air… and it was INTOXICATING. I was only 11 when i first smelled this but i LOVED (and still love) Poison. To me it smelled like mysterious grapes, wine, smoke, and flowers…it smelled incredibly romantic.

Its funny that people project onto this perfume something it wasnt.

Realize… this was HUGELY popular. It was cutting edge mainstream, and it was meant to be. It wasnt some edgy cult thing. But it was indeed meant to be CLASSY, and indeed it was.

Writing this inspired me to spray my vintage bottle, and yeah… i will be wearing Poison today.

Its absolutely gorgeous!!

angelbeast

On my skin, Poison is a bath of honeyed fruits, heady and rich. It flirts with the boundary of "too sweet", and yet is never sugary, never gourmand. There's a musky, woody, something-or-other that stops it from ever becoming edible, or being truly innocent. Youthful, playful, but no, not quite innocent; a hint of teeth behind the lipsticked smile. Aptly named and aptly packaged. The drydown is far less beguiling, becoming a somewhat Play-Doh-y vanilla. I suspect a worthy wearer would need some sort of edge about her, to prevent Poison from wearing them.

Poison, a byplay:

Oh, this IS poison.
Breathe, just breathe!
It's not real poison, you can do this.
But it's so bitter!
Ok, I can do this.
But the plum, where is my plum? I want plum.
Oh, there it is. Trying to speak up.
Is that... black currant? [Shivers.]
Come on, plum, you can do it!
Incense, stop smothering it!
Honey, can you help?
I guess not.
I like you guys, but you need to get along better, help each other out.
I'll just wait a bit longer.
[Proceeds to fall asleep.]
[Wakes up a little while later.]
Hey, where did everyone go?

dvlcis

:) here we are, Poison. Sooo many years after, we meet again. It's still the "insanity wolf" of perfumes.

A delight!

bruby15

People saying this is a grandma fragrance do not know what they are talking about. This is sweeeeet with a slightly bitter note, soapy if I might say. I can smell berries, honey, rose and jasmine.. the rest is a blur. I bought this as it is a classic, it is not me but I can also say it smells sophisticated and lasts for ever.
Edited: yes, this smells like a bewitching perfume.

Plumlady8

I dont get the hate. I tried this perfume today, itss so nice.
It smells like church candles in my opinion (obv in a good way) and so sexy at the same time.
The truth is, it is kind of grandma fragrance.. but is that something bad??
love ittt!

Wearing a few sprays out of my vintage 1980s bottle ! VaVa Voom . I feel like 1980s Elizabeth Taylor (got some weight to me -- err, HER ) poised on a throne made of purple button-tuck velvet - and it's my birthday. Lucky for YOU: this was such a big seller and many women got it as gifts - and it was "too strong" for them. So it got pushed to the back of the closet or discarded . So this 1980s vintage (look for the OVAL bottle) is easy to find on Etsy or Ebay ! I even found them at thrift stores and flea markets ! You'll be FLOATING on the thick purple vapors !!!!!!!!!!

nickinicole

It isn't fruity or sweet, but instead has a medicinal quality that I really dislike.

Magellan0101

I agree with most reviewers here, so I won't belabor the points previously made. What I will say is, buy this from Dior or any reputable department store. Do NOT go to the discount warehouses for this one.
I made the mistake of buying Poison and Hypnotic Poison from PerfumeNet. com and both were terrible. I could swear they were watered down, and not stored well.
I went straight to Dior and bought my Poison. It's absolutely wonderful. Very close to the original long ago. The reformulation is a good one. And NOTHING like what I bought at the warehouse. Lesson learned!
Going back to buy my Hypnotic Poison next!
8/10 performance
9/10 overall.

Bewitching fragrance. I have both a vintage and a newer version bottle of Poison. Yes, the vintage is more rich and alluring. The reformulated version is still good but not near as deep or opulent. Brings back a ton of memories -- all good. I wear this only in the winter and only when I just want to reminisce. It's not everyone's cup of tea.

Still gorgeous to me!!!

JoeyA

The first time I smelt this, it was a cloud of gorgeousness drifting, no strutting through the air in a store. It was a mysterious, seductive, one of a kind scent. Of course I went straight onto Fragrantica to find out what this beautiful scent could be. I smelt plum, amber and musk. When Dior Poison was one of the fragrances that appeared on the search list I had a gut feeling this was the beauty. After trying a sample in store it confirmed this is what I had been looking for.

The name and bottle is very fitting to the fragrance. It's a very dark, deep, thick smell, very seductive and sultry. To me it's a perfect sent for date night or special occasion.

Very pleased to have this in my collection.

ronin.jose

i have to make an updated review because i was guilty of riding the "the reformulated version sucks" hype train after having a very brief first impression of the current reformulated version last year on paper before actually smelling and living with the vintage pre-refomulated thing, so i do apologize for that...ok so i have tested the current version on the mall just the other day and it actually smells similar to the vintage edt i have. maybe i've been duped by thinking i have the real vintage batch, but actually posing as the same current reformulated juice just inside the vintage bottle and box lol. but i once bought an old body cream of poison at an antique store and when i bought my vintage bottle it smells the same, only the vintage edt i have smells brighter and fresher because the body cream from the antique store is already long expired so it smells, darker, deeper, wine-like and almost fermented but still nice hahaha...

anyways, moving to the scent itself, regardless of any formulations, poison is a rich, complex and opulent scent, with creamy tuberose paired with a rich, juicy plum which gives off a grape-flavoring feel, but in a good way. i can also detect the honey which gives this further richness and an almost jammy but never gourmand quality. there is also a soft incensey note on the base giving this a deeper, darker texture maintining its gothic character, otherwise this may just end up being an 80s fruity floral. im not sure what kind of incense accord they used in this but my very first impression of this scent is this Indian incense stick i once had from a brand called Hem and its their tuberose scented incense stick. the drydown on my skin is magical. assumingly, its the honey in this that turned into a soft, powdery musky animalic beeswax type of note which made it so much more intoxicating, especially if you're an animalic lover

the sillage and longevity of this is really intense that i was once guilty of overspraying it because of how i love it, i ended up assaulting people's olfactory senses who are sitting close to me on a train once. i might have triggered their headache or allergy, so go light handed on this. i cant speak much about the longevity and sillage of the current version, but in case you are planning to get the vintage edt, consider that as a fair warning hahaha. otherwise, although cliche, this truly is an intoxicating scent.

ljsmith

Ooooooo witch-ayy woman. I am learning in my perfume journey that I am not a white florals girl, but white florals going head to head with dark fruits and ambery incense has my attention. And speaking of attention, this is LOUD — so tread lightly. Dark, sexy, grape candy for grownups.

GAmomma

This is my sister’s favorite scent. Unfortunately, I hate it. I can smell it a mile away and it makes my stomach turn flips, not in a good way. There is a camphor-smelling element that’s a huge turnoff for me. It smells the same to me on each person, so I have to pass.

Ugh, the name is sadly appropriate.
I sampled a 2023. version of EDT in the green box, which seems to be this one. However, whatever I sampled is a cousin thrice removed from the fragnatica scent profile.
On me, the entire thing is a bitter, menthol-y, mothball-y mess. It's naphthalene in an old closet next to an old dried plum jar, sprayed with bug spray for good measure.
Overall, while definitely not the worst thing I've smelled, it's quite repugnant and brings back unpleasant, fuzzy memories. I really, really hate it.

Wow! this one takes a TURN. Poison is such an appropriate name because it starts out absolutely beautiful and then turns into strangeness, on me at least. Love the plum when first applying, beautiful. However, the dry down is like a mix-mash of playdoh with a dash of baby powder that comes out of nowhere, like magic, like poison. This one is a like, not love, thanks to that dry down, which lasts longer than the beautiful opening. I'm intrigued and look forward to trying more from this line.

DracheMitch

If you’re familiar with Yves Saint Laurent’s Paris, which came out 2 years before this, it’s a deeper and slightly subtler version. While Paris has more lighter notes and the powder runs throughout, the powder is only on the top when you smell Poison and the plum feels more like a base note to me, as it’s deeper in the fragrance. It also doesn’t smell anywhere near as complex as the listed notes would confer: it’s powdery with subtle dark berries and a sharp hit of what I think is probably the combination of carnation and tuberose.

The dry down is quick and the longevity is DAYS if you spray it on clothing. Also like Paris, once it hits the dry down, the fragrance doesn’t change.

This perfume escapes feeling “old” by not being a deep oriental with lots of aldehydes like most early 80’s fragrance, but it lacks “modern” notes like benzoin and the ever-present patchouli in the base of most recent fragrances. This, to me, helps give it a timeless appeal. You won’t get compliments on this, but you will be remembered in a good way.

Smellsogood85

This came out the year I was born. My mom would wear this and it’s so beautiful it brings back lovely memories of my childhood. This is on my list as next purchase. If you have never tried get your hands on it. It’s beautiful.

prancingponytail

I had been looking for a fragrance exactly like this for YEARS and it was right there on every big perfume aisle's shelf ever but I'd never tried it because it looked and felt "old"... What a mistake.

Take Jane Eyre's 2006 version (yes, the amazing one with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens), they're sitting and chatting by the fireplace in the evening, getting to know each other; the innocence of Jane Eyre and the darkness of Mr. Rochester come together in a warm, almost-friendly environment -all represented by jasmine, tuberose and orange flower that are wrapped by some sandalwood, resins, incense and opoponax with just the right amount of spices. For me this fragrance is the smell of that moment.

If you're on the quest of finding that one "dark but light" fragrance, please don't make the mistake I did, and try Poison once.

nomi00

This is what i imagine a witch from the victorian era would smell like. So sophisticated and dark. Its a unique smell and think the name and bottle are perfect. i feel like i would need to wear a big fur coat and fur hat to wear this though as it doesnt really fit my image, at least not on a regular day. regardless, its a beautiful scent

GastonThem

This is beatiful. I am from Argentina so I can't use it daidly because the weather but it's amazing.

Wiktoria_l

The best perfume ever!!! It's very hard to describe but my first thought when I smelled it was: beautiful cathedral in Paris on some spooky, dark day in autumn and a very mysterious and elegant woman. That's what poison is to me. I can't stand other versions but this ... perfection. Perfect for autumn and winter but also on special evening events in spring and summer :)

kittenpawz

I can't figure this one out at all, I've heard time and time again how different it is from Hypnotic Poison but to me, even when comparing side by side, they're unbelievably similar with the original Poison simply being less sweet and more woody. I like Poison because, well, I like Hypnotic Poison. I smell the same playdoh in both but no honey or incense that I was hoping for here. Moreover, the current formula is neither deep nor intense, and performance-wise it's as inoffensive as possible. There are kids' fragrances of the same strength. I wanted to blind buy this and I would have been really upset if I received another bottle of slightly scented water from Dior. In all seriousness, what on earth is happening to the house of Dior? So many gorgeous, legendary perfumes ruined for a quick buck.

Deianera

Got myself a vintage bottle of Poison. The bottle is beautiful but I don't understand what the hype is/was all about. It resembles versace crystal noir a lot and dkny black night imo and the red bottle of the body shop musk variation. It's very strong with lots of berry and incense. I understand why people would call this dark. But as a old timer goth; to me goth is more vintage arpege by lanvin, opium (pour homme) by ysl, shalimar, maja, jean patou-like, or even nu by ysl. Something more obscure and sophisticated, misty, gloomy, classy, powdery and sandalwoody. This reminds me of sweaty teenagers in 80s dance-clubs wearing to much mass produced cheap perfume, nauseating; somehow I can't love this. Sorry.

francesco_grieco

Poison by Dior is a fragrance of opulence and darkness. The rich interplay between sumptuous plum and the deep, resinous opoponax, with its balsamic notes, gives rise to a captivating carnal tuberose. The result is a sinful and seductive atmosphere, capturing the essence of a forbidden fruit. Despite its name, Poison, to me, it feels more like a love potion—an elixir of desire and hallucinations.

Deliza1997

In my opinion it’s the most iconic Poison alongside Hypnotic poison. It's a classic mature fragrance which isn’t everyone's cup of the. It’s one of the vintage fragrances that has stood the test of time and still relevant today. The performance on me is unearthly, one spray and I am all set. Overspraying is a big no! It will turn weird. If you expect soft, delicate florals from this i will suggest you to avoid it, it may cause headache. According to my taste I don't see myself wearing it a lot but I can’t but admire this gem and can see it’s appeal.
Note: My review is based on an old bottle which is passed down to me from my mom.

SweetJhane

I love that it’s purple, I love the bottle, and on paper I should absolutely love this, but I don’t. It does not work with my chemistry. I don’t like it on other people either. Like YSL scents, Dior’s have always been problematic for me. Their scent DNA does not complement mine. I find Hypnotic Poison particularly doll-hair and play-doh awful. I wish it were not so and I try periodically try to love them. I have bottles I’ve owned since their releases, and I just don’t get it about either of them.

LeSucreRose

This is fabulous. I don’t know why it took me so long to purchase. It smells like a cross between Coco and Amarige, both of which I love, but with grapey and incense notes added. My daughter is almost six and we both love this perfume and agree that it’s the perfect Disney villain fragrance. All the 80s-90s goodness in one perfume!

JaxR

I had this since it first came out in '85. If purple had a scent, Poison was it. It was beast mode, it was mysterious, seductive, slightly dangerous, intoxicating. My girlfriend wore it which is why it has remained a favourite of mine-conjuring up memories of cool autumn evenings, cold winter nights, glasses of wine by the fire with Christmas just round the corner; a simpler time and way of life. I remember the OG was absolutely beast mode. A few sprays and you could still smell it the next day. It was so powerful, it honestly lasted through a shower. While I still love it, the reformulation seems to have taken away some of the key notes. While I won't say it is a shadow of what it used to be, it doesn't have the staying power it had-maybe that's my body chemistry-I'm not 17 years old anymore. Doesn't last through to the next day or through a shower but the walk down memory lane sure is nice. I'll always love Poison

fernlover

Weirdly enough, i can smell everything, but not the plum or berries. Which is a crucial part of this perfume. Maybe because of it i can't appreciate it the way others do. Besides, it smells like a typical 80s fragrance - i think it should stay there. It's not gothic to me, it simply smells old. I don't like it.

jswenson

I don't wash my hair every day, that being said i sprayed on vintage poison last week behind my ears and of course it sprayed on my hair as well.
Well after showering and washing myself clean of the scent. I could still smell it in my hair 3 DAYS after wearing it!! This perfume really holds its own.

Bangabanga

Poison is a weird one!

Have you ever been sprayed by a skunk? When it happens, you think, “oh, his spray missed me!” because the skunk scent that we’re all familiar with takes time to develop. Poison is like this. One spray and you think, “that’s nice, not too strong” but somehow the sillage increases as you wear it. I’m wearing the same sweater I wore yesterday and the smell seems stronger than yesterday — particularly the plum. It’s very hard for me to parse the projection, as well. I can’t think of another scent that has this quality.

My experience of the notes is a bit inverse of the pyramid displayed here. The plum note really comes through today. It smells more like my recollection of the Poison I smelled in the 80s today on my sweater than it yesterday while wearing it.

Wearing it yesterday was a delightful journey through the smoky floral notes with a superb smoky honey moment several hours in. Honestly, it felt akin a guest shadowing my day as opposed to a perfume.

I was put off by its supersonic strength back in the 80s, and I found its wearers to be obnoxiously attention seeking. But today I’m really impressed with the architecture of this behemoth. I doubt I’ll wear it much, but I’m delighted to have it in my collection.

My bottle is pre ‘91. Likely ‘88.

Zenith Corvus

A true novelty perfume!

You can definitely smell the plum note right away. It has a very strong and harsh opening, really giving off a don’t-mess-with-me vibe. However, after a few minutes, it becomes less intense, allowing more of the sweet notes to shine.

Definitely a great nighttime perfume for the winter season and maybe autumn as well.

It’s understandable that this fragrance feels a bit old-fashioned among younger people, but it was (and still is) a popular fragrance among generation X and baby boomers. I mean, if your mother or grandmother wears Dior Poison, she must be one very tough cookie. She knows what she’s doing and you can learn a lot from her.

Overall, it’s a very sophisticated fragrance with great performance. Perfect for women who are confident and bold.

rossfrag

I love this fragrance, lately I’ve been having issues finding it, does anyone know if Dior is going to discontinue it?? Also the entire poison range, like Pure poison. Hypnotic i can still find, but poison and pure are getting hard to get.

I love the Original Poison ever since it was first launched back in 1980s it was a groundbreaking fragrance. I am thrilled that I own 2 vintage bottles by Christian Dior. I've also owned at various time, Tendre, Pure, Midnight & Hypnotic. I still have a full bottle of Hypnotic Poison which I love. However I personally would very much like to see a relaunch of Midnight Poison which was a Magical fragrance or maybe a darker Poison a 'Poison Noir' I'm thinking Witchcraft, "call a priest" sexy, a New Grown up Sensual Poison for Women not girls. Just a thought. 🙏❤

I am wearing this stuff since I was 13... No joke! I am from Eastern Europe and just before the fall of the Iron curtain, my dad and his friend went for summer job in France. I still do not know how they managed to get the permission from the communist party, but they did get there and spent all summer working on some farm. This is very ridiculous to even think about, because my father has about 7 university degrees and he was a scientist who was doing engineering inventions before he started his own business. He earned a lot of money comparing to the value of work and salary in my country during communism, and he returned back with many gifts and he got my mom a box of Dior Poison eau de cologne and esprit de parfum. My mom kept eau the cologne and she gave me (13 years old girl) the Christian Dior Esprit de parfum!!!! I just do not know whether I shall laugh or grasp about this :-) Yes, and I was wearing esprit to the school everyday! Teachers and everyone has been asking me about my perfume and lets say it lightly, I have been a rarity, because we just did not have Dior in my country back then. We could only dream about it. The iron curtain worked wonders in blocking all the culture, fashion and beauty from the west. Communist ideology wanted our women to work, wear grey clothes and not think about useless vanity.
I got terrible allergy on my neck. I ended up in the dermatologist office. They asked me to bring that perfume and they took two samples. They taped one of them on my back, to be sure that it was the culprit of my problem. The second sample was sent to lab for analysis. Can you imagine my doctors madness? 13 years old using Dior. They even wanted to know how I got it :-)))))))) Nurse and doctor have been surprised, shocked and laughing silly when taking samples, they never had bottle of Dior in their hands in their life. It was the first time they saw such thing. Neverthless, when results from lab arrived, it was quite a surprise, Esprit contained real snake venom poison. Poison was real poison back then. It was year 1989 and in a few weeks the iron curtain fell and Dior came to my country with all the grace. Our lifes changed forever. I changed my Esprit to my moms cologne, as my mom was not allergic to esprit and I was not allergic to Cologne and my journey with perfumes started. I had many, many perfumes in my life, but Poison Esprit will always be my first love and my first poison. All this memory brings smile to my face.
Regarding the scent, unfortunatelly todays perfume can not do justice to the original frag, it was just magical and exquisite. Witchy, dark, mesmerizing and huge. One drop of Esprit lasted all day and projected like crazy. This is timeless scent, but today I reserve it for autumn and winter evenings and special ocasions. It is scent that would fit to silky satin evening gown, fur shawl, long pearl necklace and sleek wavy hair, very dark wine red lipstick and smoky eyeshadows. If you are blonde, this is not for you, unless you are very strong personality.
Wicked honeyed berries, plums with coriander and anise, incense and myriad of other witchy ingrediences cooked in the cauldron of Sanderson sisters on the Halloween night. Dior poison is here to be admired and worshiped. It is here for very rare women and men, for very special ocassions. It is here to put a spell on everybody who smells it.

I love this scent, it is dark and mysterious.

I bought this one because I'm into fruity-sweet girly type of scents and this perfume seems to be the type of perfumes I enjoy knowing my taste in perfume and wanting to experiment. This did not disappoint me and totally met my expectations. This one is very fruity but in a different way, there is some spice in this scent. If it makes sense, smelling this reminds me of wine and maroon lipsticks. I love this perfume because this reminds me of the kind of woman I want to be: confident, dark and charming. The smell of this is so strong, the perfume truly live up to it's name.

PeacefulSunshine

omg this is sooooo bad!!!

My god, this is so obnoxiously 80s. I washed this off as soon as I got home. (Do you like like suffocating in an air of sweet plums and overly rape grapes? Because if so, this is for you.)

For the record, I am a demure, soft white floral lover. This is everything I am not. They threw everything but the kitchen sink in for the notes with this one and it's incredibly loud. I don't know why this is labeled as mysterious because this screams "I AM HERE EVERYONE! COME GIVE ME ATTENTION!!!"

I love J'Adore and Dune by Dior... This I do not love.

aileensinara

The vintage version is a masterpiece, I am still looking for a similar scent with that smell of honeyed dried plum with a hint of something like cinnamon. The current version is still beautiful though but lacks those notes and just smells tuberose and incense with not the same potency …

alessiatommasone

hmm, smelled this in the store and wasn't very impressed. it stuck for about 3 hours on my skin but it just stank like incense to me, not something I would really wanna smell of. can't smell anything else other than incense, maybe a bit of plum but that's it. not a fan

Einfinken

There was a period of time in my life, namely my senior year of high school and freshman year of uni, that I was obsessed with this. Looking back, I feel like I was far too young to have worn this at the age of 18/19, but at the time it made me feel grown up and seductive. This was my go to clubbing fragrance of the time and for that reason it is now also forever linked with the smell of sweat, booze and 4 am kebab house. I can't smell this without feeling sick to my stomach.

This is one to use sparingly and at night because it is strong AF.

muncierobson

Poison reminds me of my mum and my childhood, both sadly no longer with me. For this reason, I find it comforting.

I have several bottles of the EDT from the early 90s and have been fortunate in sampling the Esprit several times. Poison seems to age very well so if you find an old one…

I had not smelled a ‘new one’ for twenty years. I had very low expectations so must say I was very pleasantly surprised by a recent formulation I found on Vinted.

Yes it’s smoother than my other bottles and the performance has been dialled down. It’s still potent by today’s standards and the intoxicating blend of plum, incense, coriander and tuberose remain. I never smell this on anyone else and I’ve been proudly wearing to work (I’m a 41 yo man). Very long lasting and still leaves a decent trail, if a little thinner than before.

People notice it and many have been triggered although nobody identified it without prompting.

I LOVE it!

Ichbinanna

I’ve never found a perfume like this. I have just gotten my hands on an original version. Let me be clear. They are not joking with the name poison. Be careful with this scent. I rubbed some on my wrists, content with the scent. But as time passed by I was feeling nauseous of the smell. It was disgusting. But I re-applied it and I realize how much I like it. I’ve already been told I’ve smelled like some type of movie villain. Overall, it smells almost medicinal, plum, not very sweet. Sadly it does smell dated. It is very hard to describe a scent like Dior Poison. I don’t think I can list something else like it. Be cautious blind buying it as I did.

Edit:this is my go to perfume now

Nish97

The one I have is from 2017.
I really like the opening, the dry down not so much.
It opens with a burst of dark plum and wild berries, but soon gets pushed to the bg. The heavy florals with a bit of incense come forward and pretty much stays throughout. It’s very tuberose heavy. I don’t see myself wearing this. I do like smelling it from the bottle but I can’t get myself to wear it. I probably would’ve liked the original formulation:/
Anywho, it lasts for about 8-10 hours on my skin. Very potent. Just one spray could pack a hefty punch, fills the whole room.

radi85

Smells like a masculine fragrance or at least unisex. Very strong opening, reminds me of Kouros. I get animalic musc and light vanilla. It probably has a lot of quality ingredients, but the overall smell really reminds me of the 80s masculine classics. Good performance,it becomes less harsh in the drydown. I havn't smelled this on a woman actually. It has nothing to do with Hypnotic Poison, which has the most feminine and sexy smell you can think of. You can try it if you want to smell a classic 80s fragrance.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

Poison by Dior is definitely not as bad as I remembered it, but boy it's still a STRONG perfume! It sort of whacks you on the head all at once with its purple plum, berries and incense smell with a big dollop of tuberose from the get go and it sort of just stays like that throughout its wear. The anise, the carnation and then the coriander then makes everything quite spicy and oriental smelling. I get a resinous and sweet character too from the amber, the opoponax and the cinnamon all at once at the beginning and also in the dry down.

I could imagine this fragrance being a great Halloween fragrance because of how dark and mysterious it smells, but I could also imagine it being worn by someone like Madonna back in the 1980s while she's wearing very bold and dark makeup and a black gown with big 80s shoulder pads. This perfume is NOT for a wall flower!

I think that because of its spiciness and warmth, Poison would be suitable for either fall or winter and during the night. It's not a happy or a springtime or summertime scent by any means. I also don't think that you could get away with it at work at all... they did ban this from certain restaurants back in the 1980s for a reason!

Sillage of course was huge on me and Dior's Poison ended up lasting about 12 hours on my skin. You definitely wouldn't ever need to reapply this during the day! For that reason, you'd definitely not need to spray more than a spray on each wrist and it's definitely very good value for money because of how little you need of it.

For all of the above is why I'd give this fragrance a 6/10. I can see why it is a masterpiece and I appreciate it for what it is, but it's all a bit too much for me and it kind of overwhelms my senses a bit.

ronin.jose

I smelled an empty bottle of the vintage body cream version of this at an antique store and it's really impressive. It reminds me of an Indian incense stick I once had or at least smelled from someone else. A rich, complex scent that I can't tell apart which notes I'm getting. It just smells as if I could arouse a spirit with it. I took a whiff of the new version of it at the mall on a paper strip. It's nothing like the empty vintage bottle I smelled at the antique store. It's mainly just a lightly soapy tuberose with a little bit of plum on the back providing a vague fruitiness to the tuberose. I asked for my aunt's opinion as a former wearer of Poison in the 80's and confirmed that that is not the Poison she remembers.

I used to think that people complaining about reformulations like it's the end of the world are just being a bit ridiculous. But now I sympathize them hahaha

henrylll

I have a modern day bottle bought in a washed out department store in 2022. It still overcomes its challenges of reformulation, however, and transforms itself into a fashion accessory bigger than any bag on my wrist.

I was not alive when the original Poison was released, nor was I old enough to enjoy it before 2022 ( I was 17 in 2022!)

I smell plum, then a honey/plum/other combination that overwhelms my nose enough that I can’t tell what’s base or middle notes.

My un-trained inexperienced nose cannot decipher anything other than plum and the occasional resin, and even in its much-lesser (or so I hear) modern day formula, I can tell there’s magic and secret in this bottle which keeps me wearing something I do not yet understand.

I will own a vintage bottle one day, and maybe that will further me in my Poisonous education . With time, hopefully my nose will be able to differentiate between notes better.

But until then, I will enjoy a mysterious scent that evokes a subconscious emotion that I know was the goal in 1985.

hblakes70

Im not going to get fancy with this….keeping it real! The people who say this is just too much!!??
Oh well! It’s LUST in a bottle. I’ve yet to NOT get compliments on this baddie! Hot. for you young ladies? Don’t be afraid! Try it ( don’t go crazy i do ) and trust me on date night. It’s sweet spicy comforting

MakeupNeverSleeps

The main notes I'm getting are anise, tuberose and incense and combined, they smell like cigarette ash. I remember not liking this as a kid when I smelled it at the dept store, but I didn't have a memory as to why. It's very interesting, but it's way too out-there for my personal taste.

Smokeandhoney

I own a 1986 EDT formulation and a demonstration flacon of the esprit de parfum used to promote the fragrance in the 90s I believe.

There isn’t anything I can add to the spectacular reviews of this big, bada$$y, bombastic 80’s powerhouse fragrance. Albeit all those 3 mentioned, Poison by Dior in my opinion; is classic and sophisticated when used in the right doses. Like marmite, you either love it or hate it. A “kitchen sink” fragrance—a term I use to describe a perfume with a plethora of bewildering notes that just work. Tuberose has my heart and within this composition, perfumeur Edouard Fléchier showcases this white floral beauty with honey, incense, opoponax, plum 😚🤌 amongst other exquisite notes and accords which in turn makes her somewhat dark, tenacious, smoky, alluring, drenched in liquor-like plum syrup which has a purple grape edge (delicious). What’s to be said about this perfume has already been said—and the reviews here have been a pleasure to read. Comparing the EDT to the esprit, there are just subtle differences between the two—the esprit pulls more incense forward on my skin whereas the EDT feels lusher and a little more syrupy. I absolutely adore both. I feel like Poison is a staple in anyone’s perfume collection and dare I say it, a fragrance that a beginner could build around in their collection. Today’s reinvention of the EDT formulation is good, a little soapy and not as rich and decadent as the vintage so I would always say if you can find a bottle of 30 Avenue Hoche vintage or 33 Avenue Hoche 90s batches at a reasonable price then you’re onto a winner.

I use in any weather because I don’t care muahahahaha but beware in warmer weather. A stunning spicy, resinous, drunken tuberose which may challenge and borderline suckerpunch you into a daze and leave you a bit shooketh for the first 5-10 minutes. But wait. Poison chooses you. And if that happens, so does a little magic.

Yes, we all had too much of it in the eighties and early nineties. Now, 35 years later, I am missing my mom like crazy and bought this perfume as a journey to the past. I am 14-15, my mom is a ravishing women of 47 and words cannot describe the rest. I am so happy the new version has kept the same DNA. Love, love, love. Terrific perfume!

2024 I am revisiting my perfume library and making short video clips on YouTube to capture the highlights of the scents and my perceptions of them. Today is my Poison day and I am absolutely blown away with the way this magic settles down an hour-two after the first spray. The spicy cozy feel is SOOOO addictive. I can see how easy it is to overuse it.

Marinka71

I once wrote a negative review of this liquid, which was deleted.
Now I am going to try to be concise: never has a scent been so offensive to me as this one. I agree with comments from below: "Depression in a bottle" and "utter and complete no from me".
Just my opinion. Cheers ☀️😎😊

I genuinely have no idea how people can actually like this perfume. When I sprayed my sample to test, it immediately gave me rotten fruit and compost notes. It smells like something has been left to rot. When I bought this sample I was expecting Poison to have a seductive, enchanting, red delicious apple, warm fragrance palette. But I cannot stomach using this.

I honestly cannot pinpoint the specific notes im smelling in combination that makes me want to die when smelling this. It's just an entire no from me.

Frankly B

Used to be super strong, it’s gotten weaker. I had a Freudian analyst in the eighties who was super impenetrable who wore this. With its acrid green apple tuberose anise tentacles, I swear she wanted to kill me with it. Way too enormous.

arefuthescroob

Beautiful heavy plum! I love it!
It also has a soapy powder scent quality.

Hybrid77

Such a huge disappointment now. It’s a shame because Poison used to be really special. For me, this reformulation is a sad version. It’s weak, doesn’t project, and doesn’t last on skin or clothing. I have a knock off oil that performs better.

Chevelle Loves Scents

Just got this fragrance the initial spray is very floral and medicinal to me. It’s really interesting. The tuberose and incense really stand out to me. I’ll update after I have some more time with it.

cmh9217

I’m taking this blast from the past for a ride today. However, it must be known that I’m testing out the OG, and NOT…I repeat NOT, the bottle shown in the picture above. THAT bottle is the reformulated EDT version and is just a whimp and a synthetic and artificial smelling imposter version of the OG juice. However, I will touch on the imposter here, and share my prior experience with it.

I started off revisiting this frag by buying a travel spray because I wanted to see if it was as amazing and yummy as my memory had recalled it being in the ‘80’s. This travel spray purchase and experience is what is ENTIRELY to blame for my recent obsession in going down the rabbit hole and becoming an absolute fiend in my desire to revisit AND acquire ALL of my old favorites…stuff that I haven’t had or smelled for decades!

SO…the travel spray…whoa….HOLD UP… what happened?? Even after not smelling ANY version of Poison for 3 decades, my beak and my smellmemory immediately thought this is not IT, something is amiss. Sure, the Poison DNA is present, but, as I stated above, it is artificially present. It also lacks the depth and the famous monster sillage and projection that the OG had. I was underwhelmed. What to do about this mess? DUH…OF COURSE, get myself online pronto and find some Vintage juice STAT! I found a full vintage EDT spray in the oval bottle and waited a MONTH for it to arrive. While I was waiting for it, I occupied myself by finding and buying 3 vintage full mini’s of the Esprit de Parfum (because just ONE is NOT enough of that luscious nectar…right? 😂). Yes, those mini Esprit de Parfum’s arrived weeks before my EDT mini did. And yes, I was in HEAVEN!

Ok, so now to the review of the OG EDT…1 spray on the wrist…HOLY MOLY… THIS is EXACTLY what I remember! I only had a couple of vials of this stuff back in the day when it was initially released. But, wow, it is like welcoming back an old friend. It is BAM! In your face, and immediately your nostrils are filled with it and remain that way (I’m currently a ½ hour in). Def still the BEAST it once was…DAMN… this stuff has held up amazingly well after all of these years!

Yummy Grape soda that is front and center, but not quite to the level of sickeningly sweet. I honestly cannot pick out each of the notes because it is just THAT dense. The medley is simply fantastic. That said, I can’t say that I’m bold enough to wear this explosion OUTSIDE of my house when I go out and about though. On the other hand, the esprit de Parfum version, that is another story and out of the two, I favor it as it is more suited to a frequent wear, as it isn’t as LOUD and crazy as EDT.

This is a journey. I can understand why one wouldn't like it, the untrained nose might not understand it, but it's delightful! A cold, almost metallic white flowers, incense and plum. I have yet to grow up enough to own one of these, as I still am too green, too young, not fatal enough. I still need to become someone this scent wouldn't overpower. Good lasting power and for someone that is getting used to it, it might be best to get a decant and dab the littlest bit of it on. It is a lot easier to understand in smaller doses (and that's awfully well suited for the name, you're literally building up your poison resistence) until before you know it, you're craving it. It's very different from everything else, mysterious, alluring, cold and almost cruel, and yet you can't stop wanting it, craving it, needing it. It's as if the archetype of the Venus in Furs the main character dreamed of on the homonymous book became a smell, and those are shoes a geeky 23 year old such as me has yet to grow up enough to fill. Addictive, toxic and polarising. But then again, true masterpieces often aren't made to please crowds, but dominate the hearts of those it grabs, sink it's fangs into it's prey, alterate their chemestry to the point of rendereing them to but a worshiper.
So yeah, I better work hard in order to be able to reach the confidence level of someone that would inspire Hozier's Take Me to Church haha.

Sexbox1814

People give this fragrance a hard time for an 80s fragrance this is very wearable even today not the first spray but after a few minutes the plum will come through it’s eternal not overpowering…it’s nowhere near hypnotic poison which is one of my babies but I’m not mad at it it’s definitely an evening perfume

KimberMoon

This has been a staple in my fragrance wardrobe since I was in high school in the late 80s. If I had to describe it without actual notes, it would be sweet, round and purple, but that doesn't completely encompass this scent by any means, and I'm obviously a perfume layperson. It used to perform like a beast back in the day, it's still fairly strong, but I used to practically take people to their knees when I entered a room. I've learned self-control and moderation in my old age, and only use a couple spritzes these days. It's lovely. I'll always own it unless reformulation kills it to death. If I didn't have 100 perfumes, this would be my signature.

All this talk of darkness, and goth…

But I was there when Poison was new, in 1985.

This wasn’t a goth fragrance or even punk rock. The name was suggestive of that, sort of, but it was all in good fun. A playful suggestion of old fairy tales, or witches.

It was HUGELY popular. Sexy and classy.

My gorgeous, very blond, freckled, stepmother, wore it every day in the last half of the 80s. My stepmother was very hip, very sexy and a very classy dresser. She did her aerobic work out every day in our living room, and in her youth (teens through her 20s) she was a hippy, and a “health food” fanatic.

From my perspective, in those days, this fragrance was pure romance. That’s how I saw it then, and that’s how I see it now.

Romance. Red lipstick suggestive of the 1940s. Candlelight dinner. Fancy places. A night on the town. Cinema. High quality things.

Not punk or goth. No dark trauma.

It was a scent for all women. Homemakers, business women, artists, college dorms, high school halls, rocker chicks, etc.

I don’t associate this scent with anything “alternative” or even edgy.
Back in those days …everyone played.

And, even as a child of 10 I thought this scent was utterly romantic. I adored it as a child. (I have aLeo always much preferred it to HP, btw).

It was seen as a masterpiece, though, even back then.

So if you want an accurate picture of how this scent was thought of in the time it was released, you’ll need to see it as “flowerbomb” or some other hugely popular perfume is seen today.

We don’t say “flowerbomb is the scent of war monger women” because it has the word “bomb” in it. 🤣

Carissaochoa

Out of all of the perfumes I love, this is my most favorite because it’s my most sentimental. I was about 16, in the mid nineties, working my first job at Sears. I was stationed in the women’s accessories section, where the beige nylons and paisley scarves reigned supreme. 😳. Perfumes were across the way from me and I was immediately infatuated with Poison. Purple Beacon of Hope shined so bright.
Vanilla Fields, True Love and Sunflowers were my usual suspects at the time, but this, THIS goth vamp spicy beauty captured me. It matched my teenage angst and resentment at the time. 🖤

Poison carried me through a lot of tough times. She was like a shield of sorts. I wore her day & night, every season without fail through the halls of high school, where I needed her the most.

I have a vintage oblong version and I’ll never get enough of the spicy plummy tuberose cinnamon smoky goodness.
In the words of Paula Abdul, “I’m forever your girl”.

Nowadays, I wear Poison and listen to The Misfits to satisfy my mid forties angst. Haha! 🖤

PerfumeLoverWithRhinitis

An experiment I did to my friends and classmates, my observations are:
1. It repels good, innocent people away
2. It attracts people with dark trauma from the past, people that radiates more chaotic energy.
3. I love it, it's a sad scent, I'm obsessed with it, I got headaches after sniffing on this but I just can't stop smelling because of how unique this scent is, it's a depression in a bottle

HannahRosesAreRed

"Poison" was, and still is, a game-changer fragrance. A heady and potent blend of dark, wintry woods, berries, spices and resins, backed up by a subtle hint of lipstick-vanilla, "Poison" was made to be alluring, intoxicating, and dominating, tailor-made for the days of power dressing, shoulder pads and smoky eyes. So potent and dominant was this airborne toxin of a perfume that it was even banned from certain restaurants during the height of the 80s. The sandalwood-cinnamon-clove-incense blend immediately makes its presence known, as well as yours, even years after its first production and reformulation.

I love this fragrance. I think it's brilliantly blended and lives up to its name as a dark, seductive, slightly dangerous and intoxicating fragrance. Just not on my skin. On paper, it was a lovely, spicy, woody concoction. When sprayed on my wrist, it was simply too strong. Wood and spice-dominated scents tend not to go well with my skin chemistry, which seems better suited to "fresher" and more indolic fragrances. It even gave me a slight headache and stomachache. Such a shame, because on paper and fabric, it's a lusciously evil delight.

I admire Poison for what it is, and there is no denying its power and brilliance. Being an 80s fragrance, it's built to last and project for days. Never overspray–one or two spritzes should be enough, lest you get this fragrance banned from high end restaurants once again!

sakecat22

Poison. My problematic acquaintance.

In the 80s, Poison had a berry barf accord I just could not get past.
I resented that I couldn't wear it - because "Poison."
My little goth heart was broken.

The berries in the current version lean way in the other direction towards berry-scented industrial solvent on my skin.
I personally find the current formulation more wearable.
This version also makes it easier for me to smell why people call this a tuberose masterpiece.
The flowers now have a fighting chance against the fruits.

Today's Poison is MUCH better from a FAR distance than directly on me.
For my tuberose, I think I'll stick to Fracas.

11PHOSPHORUS11

A MASTERPIECE!

Oh! The polarising tuberose!
This oily floral note, which can be extremely heady and cloying, here is surrounded by a fruity purple veil of juicy plums or grape-like accords. What a winning combination!!!

Extremely difficult task to tame tuberose. Brava!
This perfume is actually the reason I’ve fallen in love with tuberose.

The coriander adds some sparkle and lifts the composition with its piercing spicy freshness but also dates the scent; it does the same with Coco Chanel actually adding the sophisticated elegant avant garde feel.

Poison continuously turns heads and should be used by someone who is not afraid to draw attention to themselves. It's not going to be carried well by plain consumers of the sweet mass-pleasers like Armani's Si or Prada's Paradoxe.

I’ll always have a bottle of it no matter the reformulations.

Aesthetics: I love all Poison bottles, I pay a lot of attention to this because luxury is about a thoughtfully expressed creativity of the smallest detail. It's what you pay for and it makes you feel so civilised and grateful.

10/10(!)

I won't get into the vintage versus current formulations discussion. Or if it's suitable for men or women. Peeps, wear what you like!
After getting that out of the way, my bottle is from 2016 and smells divine: fruity, plummy, dark, loudish, strong, and incense-y.
One spray on the chest.
One spray on the back of the neck.
One spray on the left wrist, then gently rub it on the right wrist.
Twelve hours of good projection without choking anyone to death.
Beautiful, just beautiful.

zefragrancec

great if youre looking for a perfume with that femme fatale kinda vibe, unique and sweet not in a gourmand kind of way.

Ten2Midnight

Brought this nose blind, as I wanted to add the ‘80s powerhouse’ fragrance that everyone talks about to my collection. From first whiff, I wasn’t taken with it - it’s fruity alright - you definitely get the pluminess straight off - and it beds down to a calmer smoky-fruity base, but I get none of the noted florals during the dry down. What I get from the fragrance is….the smell of a pencil eraser (remember those big erasers from childhood, that had such distinctive smell?) or a new toy, an action figure, just opened from its clear plastic case, and you get hit with that new plastic/paint smell. That’s what Poison reminds me of…rubbery, plastic, fresh of the box, children’s toys.
I really don’t know what to make of this scent - where would you wear it?? It’s not sophisticated enough for evening wear; too childish almost for the office; the only place I could envision this being worn is an open air farmers market, wandering through the stalls with a wicker basket hanging from the bend in your elbow, a scarf fluttering in the breeze as you waft around the various offerings of food with the dirt still on it…that’s where you’d wear this perfume. Poison isn’t an adult scent, it’s a girls.
I love the 80s, that wonderful decade of style and opulence, and have many of the fragrances that helped define that era. I brought Poison to enhance this collection but I’m disappointed. This isn’t the fragrance I hoped, thought or expected it to be. I guess I’ll need to wear it though as I paid £55 for it (it’s definitely over priced) but it’s sad fruity weirdness will mean that I’ll reach for and spritz Giorgio, Paloma and Charlie many, many more times than Poison.
If Poison defined the mid-80s, no wonder my mum stuck so solidly to her late-70s YSL Opium….

Moonrookie

This is the perfect fragrance if you like spicy fragrance, not too sweet but it’s dark fruity. It’s smells like a wicked witch/vampire in the middle of woods. When you first spray it it’s going to killl you with dried fruit and spiciness, and then this fragrance will take care of your soul and make you reborn as a witch. This is quite long lasting on me and the Sillage is Super good. Overall 4/5.

suzanne_ronald

YIN & YANG. Flawed diamonds are the only real diamonds. '80s Smoky Spiced-Plum & Tuberose! This was the scent the girls I idolized in my early teens wore. I couldn't quite bring myself to wear it back then, perhaps there was an unspoken line I was afraid of crossing, by accepting a marbling of bad in something mostly good. What if I could never go back? Opening with a burst of smoky, bitter plum & coriander that continues & deepens into a cinnamon nuanced berry-tuberose heart resting on a base of cedar-sandalwood with touches of musk, vanilla & heliotrope. One thing is certain: wearing this scent you're not in Kansas anymore...

There is a similar vibe with the plum and white floral, but cedar is more forward in Poison and the florals are slightly more smoky & bitter than Secret Obsession to my nose.

Contrast to Venezia 2011 Laura Biagiotti:
There is a similar oriental woody vibe with ylang, sandalwood and plum, but spices and white florals are more forward in Poison.

Contrast to Divina La Perla EDP:
There is a similar oriental woody vibe, but black currant from kir royale, and gardenia are more forward in Divina.

Overall: powerhouse performance and a beautiful iconic scent profile, this is the perfect scent to wear while wrestling your inner demons. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

My 20 year old niece smelled my vintage bottle of Poison, rolled her eyes back in ecstasy, and immediately hunted down a large vintage for herself .

She’s obsessed with this fragrance. She has texted me several times since she got it just to talk about how it makes her feel, what the notes are, etc,

I understand how she feels because I have been obsessed with it since it used to fill my childhood home, daily, in the late 80s -90s.

Update: she texted me to tell me she’s buying another vintage. She uses her current bottle daily and is paranoid she’ll run out and never find it again.

SweetJhane

People experience fragrances so differently at times that I wonder if we are even talking about the same perfume. Poison is one of those for me. I never “got it” about this one, and I still don’t. Love the bottle!

HappiestGirl

i wish i liked this. it smells like repressed childhood trauma caused by trashy parents who chainsmoke. it smells like the inside of a car in a way i don't like.

waterfieldsy

Wore a (tiny) bit of this to the doom/industrial show this past weekend and it felt so right. Poison is such a wicked fragrance. It goes on me like bug spray but it sweetens into the richest plum, and it lasts into the next day if you don’t have time to shower. It’s a costume of a fragrance. I only bring this out on special occasions because it’s so harsh and it projects like crazy, but when I need some dark energy, this is the elixir!

plutonica

It smells like an alice in wonderland themed fashion shoot. sweet, sickeningly sweet. something in there is…. highpitched? it piques your nostrils. it reminds me of what a june bug would wear on a night out!

DolceValkyrie

My very first designer perfume - such a treasured memory. Although the formulation has changed and it’s screechier than the original incarnation, I still bought myself a bottle last year - not to wear, because it’s insanely loud and dated now, but to sniff on occasion and remember how exhilarating it felt to take this beautiful, plum coloured poison apple home as my very own when I was just 13. As someone else here has said, this is absolutely the representation of the most glamorous feminine Disney villains! It’s gothic and mysterious. It’s Lilith in a bottle.

Mashalala

Smells like all of my favorite Disney villians put together .Simply classic yet magical like living in a Disney movie brought to life.
This is what Mother Gothel smells like.

Mashalala

Upon first spray it is chilly, like a cold winter night, medicinal but powdery and very mysterious! It is hard to describe or separate one note as they are blended together so well.Smells like bubblegum when it sets, making way for a hint of vanilla and coriander?
Definitely not for the faint of the heart,it is daring and bold, yet witchy and unique. She's an all-rounder! The rich cooling scent lasts for days

Mariam Mel

The smell of my mom, a Scorpio, coming home from work in the early 90. It’s cold outside and she is wearing a fur coat. The gust of frozen wind and the smell of her hair is stuck in my memory forever and I could never replicate it, until when I bought a bottle of Poison and sprayed it on my own hair. There. There in was. My childhood memory of the perfect feminine smell. I called my mom and asked her if she still had her vintage Poison and she said she did and kept it for special occasions.

**the review is for the EDT version that you can buy nowadays**

Hello darkness, mystique, and an old spell..
this is one hell of woman.. A WOMAN! no girls allowed here
no tan no beach waves no sugar and vanilla
dark shiny hair, plum lipstick, silk, deep wine red nails, confidence and not everyone cup of tea.. cuz u r a fine champgene in a coupe!
they want you but you intimidate them so they mock your dark energy!
boy i bet morticia addams smelled like this!
Hiss..

Jade-Ange D

It’s one strong fragrance, that makes you feel like a strong badass women. Even gives that dark feminine energy, that an independent and fierce woman is interpreting. It’s smells like a luxurious warm and sexy hotel room and you’re dressed as a muse in a beautiful designer long corseted black satin dress with thin yet elegant heels. I have a bottle that my mom isn’t wearing anymore and I have to say that I don’t wear it, but I enjoy smelling it on some paper sticks.
It is a 4,5/10 because it feels outdated unfortunately, and it is a mature scent :(

Yukarin

This perfume speaks my personality louder than the most psychological assessment i have ever done!

since i was kindergarten i had my special memories about this perfume and, at that time, reminded me a lot with "how my personality gonna be in the future".

now i am a 28 years ÿoung adult and most people said that this perfume does reminds them with me. a sultry, mysterious, devious, "distant", seductive, and dangerous enigmatic person.

i have 100ml and 50ml of this now, i am so happy because now i can afford this thing!

Xtremenergy88

On me, the newer formula quickly loses its strength. All that you can smell after the initial drydown is a faint hint of bubblegum (probably the tuberose and heliotrope). It's very sweet and I don't get a ton of spice, wood, or incense that would help balance the sweetness. Sillage is moderate and fades to intimate after a few hours. Overall, not the showstopper fragrance I was looking for, at least on me. I do love Dior and will probably finish out this bottle, but after this I will probably stick to Sauvage or my personal favorite, EDT Fahrenheit from this perfumer.

muzzbait

I'm going through a lot of my wife's discarded samples, literally consolidating all excess, unnecessary samples and getting rid of them.
Anyway, I have known about this scent for 30 years, or so, I remember my older sister's best friend used to wear this, way back when, and now that I'm trying this on, I think I can understand the hype and appeal of this.
Plum and tuberose work REALLY well together, and I can also get the resin and spiciness in this, too, but I feel it lacks more of a boost from the resins and spices. It's still a bit too top-heavy for me, and even though this is for ladies (whatever that means), I can also appreciate these kinds of scents, and whilst I have no aversion to white florals or fruit-sweet scents, I feel that this has too much top and not enough bottom.
It's still damn nice, just not 'complete' for my tastes...

KAYAGIRL

Myyyyy signature scent. Absolutely love . Soooo wish I could get My hot Lil hands on a big bottle of midnight Poison tho 💙

rossfrag

i love this poison, strong but yet powdery, I don't see it nowadays, so often like at Macy's, or Dillards, I wonder if Dior is going to discontinue this fragrance. also, I've seen it on discounted websites for around 99dls a 3.0 oz, which is rare for this to be so "low" granted the current price increases. does anyone know about that?

HoneySmoke889

I am forever connected to this fragrance because it was my mom’s going out perfume when I was a kid so I always keep a bottle around. I still have her original vintage bottle💜. The new formulation smells dead on to me, even if it’s been adjusted slightly for modern tastes, it’s been done very well to my nose. We all know it’s a heavy hitter! This should only be worn by someone who is confident and loves the scent! You have to be okay with the fact that everyone will be able to smell it, and not everyone will like it, but YOU love it and that’s all that matters😂
Update: my my told me this wasn't her going out frag, it was her signature scent!

sserpentine

I have a unused vintage 50ml EDT splash new in box up for swap/sale. This is the oval bottle. Available for EU/UK and US/CDN but shipped from EU. Message me if you're interested :)

Update: 1/26/2023: I wish I had seen the comment from Christopher.chase21 below. I got the new formula. Not a fan. Has a detectable soapy scent in the opening, which is not the most pleasant note for me. After several hours, sniffing my wrist very closely, I could detect the DNA, but it’s just not the same. And what is the point of having a smell I like that is faint hours later? I loved it when it was originally introduced in the 80s. Oh well. C’est la vie.

I wonder if I should buy Hypnotic Poison. It seems that people really like that flanker. Girl EDP sounds ok, too, though maybe I should just move on from the Poison line entirely.

Update: 06/19/2023. Original 9/10. Reformulation 7/10.

Original 1/21/2023 review: This was one of my favorites in the 80s when I was in high school. I have not worn it since then. Reading some reviews, I am not sure I want to buy reformulated Poison. I don’t want to ruin fond memory of it. Another favorite at the time was Estée Lauder Beautiful. Back then it smelled truly beautiful. Now, the new formula, it’s soapy, screechy, and not as beautiful. It may be that as I get older my olfactory senses have changed. But I doubt that explains 100% of unpleasantness. I hope today’s Poison does not end up being disappointing if I decide to buy it.

christopher.chase21

Saho93 definitely buy a vintage if you’re looking for the beast that Poison is! The new formulation is wonderful for what it is (a reformulation), but it does seem quieter than Poison once was and a tad soapy. It’s amazing that this perfume is still sold! It’s an icon for a reason! The vintage bottles hold up really well throughout the years and you can find them for the same price as the modern formulation. 👌🏻

Holli

This is definitely one of the elder family members of all of the beautiful white floral options we have today, and given that, I have to respect and admire it. Still, I prefer the generations of beauties that Poison helped encourage. The drydown is nice and as modern as any other white floral, but the start is sharp. We're so lucky today that most scents don't need a warming up period to smell nice, and I am slightly too spoiled to wait for this one to get there.

ChocoLei

I get a dark, smokey orange-blossom burst in the opening that slowly turns into a soapy tuberose hours later. I really like it. It smells just like I would imagine a mysterious & elegant 80's femme fatale would smell like. She wears dark-coloured clothes in a cold winter night. She has an intimidating aura.

It's more complex that my short description makes it seem; for example, the orange-blossom gets almost almondy before giving way to the tuberose. The evolution of the perfume is fascinating.

Due to its vintage DNA, I feel like some people might consider the scent as outdated, or too mature for a woman in her 20s. I think it's just a matter of attitude. If you can wear it unapologetically, do it. You should be the one wearing the perfume anyway, not the other way around. Own it.

RivkaLev

I've never been this frustrated by a fragrance. Knowing that its gone really hurts. I sampled some of the current EDT and compared it to my mom's vintage juice. The reformulation drama isn't without merit. The new stuff smells like OFF! deep woods repellent mixed with stale Rumba. The vintage is so intoxicating, mysterious, and friendly.
I'm hoping Amouage or Fredric Malle might re-invent this and treat it right. Narcotic white florals, juicy/jammy plum, sweet/smokey resins, and a slight animalic honey tang. Doesn't seem too complicated. Based on what people are paying for vintage poison - I'd say there's still a very devoted market.

Cadera97

I love when anyone asks what I'm wearing and I get to say: poison

BOBHAIRCUT

This smells like the best wine tastes. Rich and fruity, plumlike. But more, flowers dancing with peacocks right on the tip of your nose. You don't deserve this, no one ever did. Can I please have any unwanted bottles? PLEASE!!!

Mattesha Erotica

Sampled my mothers 3.4oz EDT i got her for christmas. Like everyones mom, she used to wear it tons throughout my childhood. I remember it very fondly, but this time around as an adult im not loving it.

Could be something with a change in formulation, but i get this “seashell” type note that i really do not like. Its hard to explain, but growing up on the shore (especially during the colder months) you could smell crushed clamshells leftover from seagulls, and i get alot of that here weirdly enough. I LOVE Hypnotic Poison, and think it really blows this out of the water. Why would someone choose this over the divine richness of HP? Or even Dior Addict? They both have that depth the original Poison here seems to be missing.

Ive pondered the thought of buying a bottle of Poison for myself over the years, and im glad that I learned im not much of a fan by way of this gift. This is a 5.5/10 for me, most points are for nostalgic reasons.

lexiloo

This was my moms favorite perfume in high school in the 90s so I just had to get it and I absolutely love it. Such a perfect femme fatale scent. It starts off very spicy and the incense is prominent. As it settles you can really smell the plum/berry notes and honey. It’s such a strong woman perfume and perfect if you want to be unique and make the entire room notice you. Very nostalgic to those who remember it from the 80s/90s.

swedishmilk15

Found a half full 50 ml bottle (pre-1991) at the thrift store for $4.99

Is it a blessing or a curse? This stuff smells divine! Nothing I can say about it that hasn't already been said in other reviews. (all I would add, is MUST LOVE PLUM & TUBEROSE TOGETHER TO ENJOY HER.) But if I ever want more, I have to decide if I want to chase down vintage juice or settle for the modern reformulation.

Maybe I'll just try to mete it out slowly, like the treasure that it is.

EllenaDsk

I don't like most of Dior perfumes. But Poison, that's the reason I still respect this brand.

clairedaloon

Ok, I hate the initial opening of this fragrance. It’s just straight up sweet petrichor mixed with wet hay/grass. Very screechy, just not for me. BUT when this fragrance warms up on my skin it’s nice. It becomes floral and woody, it’s a really distinct smell, it smells retro. There’s a lemongrass earthiness to it that just makes it feel vintage.

I wrote a review just now on Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino where I compared it to Poison. I have been wearing it on and off and today and certain whiffs of it made me question whether I’d put NP or Poison on this morning. NP has a nicer more citrus opening but it remains quite flat and sharp whereas Poison warms into a more fresh, floral and woody scent. Both fragrances though do have the same earthy musky lemongrass notes throughout and this weird sweet rotten fruit like smell (but looking at the notes listed on this site, the only notes they share in common are jasmine, amber and African Orange Flower, but I’m not sure I’m smelling any of these as this common note, maybe it’s the combination of these scents).

Although I didn’t really want this review to be a comparison to TF Neroli Portofino - as to be honest I’ve not seen anyone else compare the two, so it’s obviously my body chemistry - but I feel they are very similar in some respects and if I had to choose one regardless of price, I actually prefer Poison, even with it’s damn awful initial smell. (I think NP is more unisex, leaning towards male, and it doesn’t smell as complex to me as Poison, it’s just quite sharp and citrusy to me).

On the whole, I do like this scent, it’s different, it smells retro yet fresh and clean but I’m not completely sold as yet, I might come back to it another time and try it on again.

Update: Ok, I actually spilled some of this in the sink when trying to decant it into an atomiser and when I went back into the bathroom a few hours later the bathroom smelt amazing! So clean and fresh but yet warm and woody… I kept sniffing the air trying to inhale it. I’m going to give it another try on my skin.

dogmeat

On my skin, I get dense white florals, a vague fruitiness, and spicy musk. The florals here almost remind me of those colognes found in botanicas except Poison is heavier and a bit more indolic. That, combined with the incense make this a proper, old-fashioned witch's potion...something an old-school glamourpuss would wear. But, there is something about those florals that are so sharp and clean to me...not modern, but still really interesting. This smells super nice on my skin and lasts a long time. Poison does conjure up images of The Love Witch and Irma Vep for me, but I still think it is easy to wear, any time, any place. It's a classic.

comer_aparte

God I WISH I had known this perfume in my teenage years when I was young and horny and obsessed with berry-forward scents. Poison is the elevated, almighty version of all the perfumes I was making my signature back then. Its sweetness leans smoky and adult as opposed to other "for women" perfumes by luxury houses, which feel like straight up sugar. It's complex, it's ultra-feminine, it's a classic for a reason. An incredibly assertive perfume, starts a little too strong (so spray with caution, treat it as an EDP more than an EDT) but becomes a crowd pleaser on the drydown.

SmokeyLady

Tryed it today in parfumery, I guess it was reformulated again since it is weaker than one I bought in 2014. ( could be wrong which year is batch code ).
To me it is not that dark and weird like everybody says, it makes me happy and I love plum in fragrances! Something goth girl would wear, not evil witch. Or seductive lady in the theater.
I wear it even in daytime since I have dry skin, and this is the rare one that didn't disappear after half to one hour wear. Sadly not the case today it is gone already. I will buy it one day again and wear it on clothes. It should be cheaper due to this and it got more expensive instead. They should bring back original and say wear at your own responsibility, just like for people who smoke. Or make both safe reformulated and original version. I want to enjoy life while I can.

lightglow

I never liked this. An older family member made Poison one of my very first perfume memories as a child, which really just ruined tuberose for me. Any time I smell tuberose (ex. L'Interdit) that's all I can think of. To me, it is a very "smug" scent, self-assured externally but privately filled with turmoil.

I can only recommend that those who like this fragrance please consider this is one of those "weird" scents that some people dislike with a passion and you should try to avoid showing a lack of respect for others by being considerate about where you wear it.

Ambrocia scents

Came back, just to reiterate how much I love this. Its dark plum opening and very musky in the beginning, settles into this jammy rose/plum. JUST like the colour of the bottle. Smelling it rn, its depth, could make 1 think it has coffee in it too. Just sexy, date night worthy. If u want him to NEVER forget u like i do lol. Its what I expected la nuit tresor by lancome to be.dont let the crazy first few minutes of it scare u. Gorgeous, try it.

mhubbard1961

I had samples years ago and liked this. Again, I run into the same problem of where to wear it. This is for the woman over 30 and not for the office. Intense, different. Niche like before niche existed. There used to be a dupe that I liked even better, but they don't make that anymore. It was sweeter. I have not smelled this on anyone in years. I would pick up a mini if available to reacquaint myself but wouldn't buy even a small bottle. Too many scents to try in one lifetime.

Gyps

One of my all time favorites. Always have a bottle or two on hand and always will. 10/10

cassiesta

I love the idea of a goth perfume and this had all the markings of something goth (the name, incense, purple and other notes and that font and gorgeous goth purple poison apple style bottle), unfortunately it’s not quite goth to me. I smell something almost grape-like and some spiciness with some sweetness. Considering both the notes and what I’m smelling, I think I smell plum and red berries, something floral (tuberose) and spicy (opoponax?), honey, and incense the most.

I didn’t really like this the first couple times I wore this last year around this time guess it smelled like a bunch of spices and I guess some floral notes and not much else, but I just wore it yesterday (maybe it was colder this time) and I enjoyed it a lot more and could smell the aforementioned notes. It’s a little more masculine than most perfumes I have and love -probably because its more of a vintage style perfume which are a lot less sweet than modern perfumes - but that’s what makes it interesting. It does kind of remind me of Guerlain Insolence EDP (purple tinted - I have it in the bee bottle) and therefore, also the EDT (pink tinted, also in the bee bottle). That might be due to the grape-like smell. They all share the red berries notes and they’re all a touch sweet. Those also are not super modern fragrances so that could also be why Poison reminds me of them.

SpringClean

She's a complicated creature this one. In the opening, it's like she's trying to fight you off, exuding a sharp, smokey incense from the dark ages, like a dagger to your senses. Then, after a about 5 minutes on the skin, she starts her transformation; settles down and shows her true colors, as if to say "Very well, I surrender, you can wear me". It's a dark, fruity plum-like smell, with a spicy undertone. To become friends, she needs to be taken outside; let her enjoy the cold, crispy air and you'll really be able to appreciate her beauty and mystery.

Beautiful and timeless perfume. They don’t make perfumes with such quality no more. Very attractive if warn in cool weather. Head turning perfume 👌

DandyCandy

I'm shocked. First of all, I only tried it on a test strip so I don't know how it performs on my skin. In the opening it is a very strong and overpowering floral incense so at first I did not like the scent, but I still kept the test strip. Once I got home and smelled it again I was mesmerized by it. It turned into a rich, sweet, jammy plum with bubble gummy tuberose and a bit of smokiness at the end. It is beautiful. I'm going to ask for it to be sprayed on my arm instead of a strip next time.

Fleurie20

Mom had this and I used to sneak sprayed whenever I could back when I was in highschool. I loved it back then and thought I could not smell any more expensive lol.

I am in my 30s now and despite giving it multiples tries throughout the recent years, it doesn't grow on me anymore. I find it heady, incensy/smoky, sticky and stuffy. Maybe the reformulation, or maybe that's just how we are, we react differently to fragrance at each stage in our life.

Monster staying power and sillage.

Pinkfloyde:)

I thoroughly enjoy plummy perfumes- and this is one of them.
Can be overbearing for some; it’s an extremely in-your-face kind of smell. Definitely something that will spread across an entire room.
It’s sweet, jammy, with a perfect touch of florals and smokiness. This smells serious and womanly- I believe it’s mainly night appropriate, but can also be worn during day hours. It gives “alluring business woman” vibes.
During the summer, I find this fragrance rather cloying // suffocating. This lasts ages, essentially to the next day on hair and clothes, and the heat only makes it smell dirty and headache-inducingly sweet.
A safe blind buy if you love something serious, plummy and smoky.

cynthiad623

Fall fragrance!

Eveoairo

Tried this on at the airport and it made me nauseous. If you’re sensitive to strong scents this is not for you, it stinks.
Definitely a more mature fragrance, not well suited for younger people like myself. It gives rich old lady vibes

ms rochambeau

I've had a vintage partial bottle of the espirit de parfum formulation that someone had given me way back and I've tried to like it over the years, especially after I started to appreciate tuberose in perfumes. However, what always kills it for me is the overwhelming grape soda note that overshadows every phase of the scent, from opening to dry down. I've never cared for grape soda. If this is supposed to be the "plum" note, it's not on me. The tuberose and the incense try to peek through a bit here and there, but the grape soda note is so pervasive, the rest of the notes don't stand a chance.

amyaz

Fortunately for my wallet I dont care for this. On my skin it is pretty incense heavy and at times smells almost soapy. It reminds me of this hippie crystal shop I go to. Its not bad but not something I would personally want to smell like.
Compared to other plum scents I own, I'm surprised that's a note in this. I would take poison girl over this (but hypnotic over both)

jswenson

My oh my, this is something very special. I feel like this is what a plum wine would smell like. A big beautiful thick cloud swarms around you leading you further into temptation as the hours pass… (vintage of course).
I wore Poison while sporting a black satin romper a few nights ago, and I just have to say that I felt sexy as hell!!

fragrantkilljoy

I was looking for a new signature scent after I outgrew my past signature, poison girl because I grew tired of vanilla based fragrances and my journey finally ended when I discovered the original poison!

I tried it around ten years ago for the first time and wasn't able to appreciate it's beauty back then. I was really into sticky sweet gourmands at the time and wanted something more girly and playful, something more juvenile.

While poison isn't necessarily something "mature" or "old" in itself it does have a certain edgyness to it that, imo, would probably put a lot of younger girls off and I can now understand why I couldn't appreciate it back then.

I think that poison is something for women who know who they are, what they want and have a certain sense of security in their person. Someone who doesn't want to smell like what they imagine others might like but what they like.

It's sweet yet not syrupy (and doesn't smell like anything you'd find in a bakery or sweets store like with poison girl), the incense gives it an almost witchy vibe (which I love!) and the flowers are just so heavenly, like a luxurious bouquet.

All in all I think if it works for someone really depends on one's skin chemistry (as with almost all scents) and it's definitely not a safe blind buy! But for me personally, this is all I've wanted in a fragrance and so much more! I can't stop smelling my wrist when I wear it, it's just stunningly beautiful and I just feel really confident while I wear it (even during the day).

Dani83

Stunning and very heady smells like something from biblical times the oils they would have used I love it

Laurus

This smells like a car with the wonderbaum and the full ashtray on me in the most positive sense possible. It is not my favourite fragrance, but my 5 years old son prefers this rather than some more flowery scents such as Balenciaga Paris which I think is beautiful. My nose must be broken because people around me think the stuff that I do not appreciate smells amazing and the things that I actually love smell like cleaning stuff to them. I must say I do love my flowery soapy scents. Tragic that friends around me do not see the beauty in those. Even though I do not love this I find this more tolerable than Dior Tobacolors which I did find super offensive smelling but my boyfried saw no problem in that either. I think I am so biased. I do not have a heart to hate something my 5 years old likes so I rate this with a straight mouth smiley instead of sad face. I wont get a full size but will keep my sample.

Dammmmn
I blind bought a vintage EDT splash bottle. I hope I don’t offend anyone by saying I find the reformulation as true to the original as one could hope; but one dabber of the vintage has the power of 3 sprays of the reformulation.

The more I wore my vintage bottle, in the blistering 95+ degree heat wave, the more addicted I get. I decided to also buy a FB of the reformulation, and since I think I’ve gotten a good grasp on the similarities and differences.

Vintage EDT:
- inky, almost blood-like, sweet metallic cherry/plum opening
-Characteristic “poison” heart (slightly spicy, incensy, silky sweet grapey tuberose and plum)
-Dry down leans colder, more floral, powdery, aloof and sexy

Modern reformulation:
-Smoother, softer, more “cough syrup”-y opening that is not metallic
-Same characteristic heart, slightly more juicy and overripe and slightly less incensey
-The dry down is where they really differ. The ass end of the reformulation dry down is still powdery, but less cold and floral; more of a guerlain-esque powdery vanilla.

I love them both but I think Poison vintage EDT has officially dethroned Insolence as my #1 favorite perfume. I can’t wait to try the EDC, Esprit and Extrait.

Dina France

I wish I knew how it smelled in 1985.
Yesterday I found Poison Eau de Toilette in a purple bottle and green box. If anyone has tried it please tell me how far it is from the original.
I do not know how this version can be likable by anyone. It smells like rotten red berries, a leaking garbage bag and dirty patchouli (which is not even a note here).

Update: I have purchased a 5 ml bottle from 1985 and while I do feel a common DNA, the 2 are very different for me. It's like comparing a sketch with a 3D image. The vintage version has such an amazing volumous silage that a cloud of the scent stays in a place you left 10 minutes ago. Logically I thought it's be a killer on my skin, but it is not. It's absolutely wearable if used in small dozes.

I'm so sad about this fragrance. I just received my sample and tried it out- I used to wear it in 8th grade through high school. Lol, now that I think back on it, that was a very womanly fragrance for a young girl to be wearing... Anyway I tried on my new sample and... ick. There's something in it now that has a skunky smell. Poison was always almost too much for me. *Almost* too sweet, too dark, too sultry, too spicy. Almost. But I still loved it. Now there's something in it that reminds me of... moth balls? I can't put my finger on it. But it's something that didn't used to be there before (or was there, but was masked by something that's no longer there). It's something that rankles and stands out from the rest of the composition. Too bad. But at least I have Hypnotic Poison now, which gives me similar feels to what Poison used to feel like, but even better.

GO-RED-KNIGHT

My best friends mum had a bottle for years and it was a killer. The smell of young gorgeous woman wearing it out on the town was mesmerising and my partner of 44 years was one of those sexy ladies that could wear it with style. And just like my best friends mum and and his elder sister and her friends plus aunties plus a couple of cans of hairspray and you never wanted to light up for a smoke inside a car or minibus with that lot around you. Poison could be worn in a house party, or club, or pubs. The smell of Poison could cut through cigar and cigarette smoke plus the carpets that stuck to your shoes from the all the drinks that had been spilled over the years. I really do miss my time back then as it was special and so much more friendlier. I haven’t smelt it for over a couple of decades now and it would be nice to smell it and close my eyes and travel back in time….

Great composition but not for me. My mother used to wear this in the eighties, she had it in several forms. Beautiful iconic bottle. Seductive. Warm. Eternal.

LinnyBot

This was an assault of powdery spice, kind of an antiquated scent for me (23) but it is definitely assertive and powerful and I can see why so many love it and have since its release - its a statement perfume, like Angel, hence why it is divisive.

Josesalinas

Lots of black currant-y plum make it vampy strong honey and a bubblegum tuberose that’s all smothered in a smokey soot. I see how it was intended to be “Wicked” I find it spooky in a good, vintage, womanly way. The Snow White fable bottle is beautiful 😊

Poison, a toxic triumph!

Dior Poison (vintage, 30 Avenue Hoche, I believe the very first formulation) and Poison Elixir de Parfum (vintage, from the 90s)

For once the name of the scent is unbelievably apt.

(The actual review starts from the paragraph after this titled ‘Scent’.) Memories, this used to be my mum’s signature, she always made dressing up to go out a fairly big ritual, she’d have a huge dressing table (vanity), where her perfumes would be laid out like chess pieces, and it’d be set out previously for her, the jewellery, the outfit and the perfume for the day, and let it be said she had impeccable taste, always. Her style and manner did have a little something cold about it though, when she was my mum, she was warm, but when she was herself, I have had people remark that ‘she’s a bit of an ice queen, no?’. You can understand now why vintage Poison (those deep purple oval bottles and tiny minis of the Elixir) was her signature. My understanding of aesthetics and fascination for fashion and perfumery come primarily from her, in a way I suppose I’ve inculcated bits of her of mannerisms and made them my own. I never thought I’d make Poison my own, but somewhere down the line my mum stopped wearing Poison in favour of other lighter fragrances because she believes in the whole moving on with the times and though she doesn’t know about reformulations, she says with venom in her voice that Poison just isn’t the same anymore. That much is true, the difference of heaven and hell between Poison that once was and what it is today.

Scent, what it once was was a powerhouse of sweet toxins infused in a perfume. It opened with that signature concord grape/wild berry accord which I’m told is the doing of Methyl anthranilate, this smells like an icy stewed fruitiness. This poisonous brew has a thick sweet-sour syrupy nuance, this comes from a ripening plum (inspired by the famous Prunol base of old?) and honey with its spiced edges from the aniseed, coriander, pimento.

The heart is wilted flowers, dying, decaying, morbidly sweet, bound by the necromancy of the three witches (white flowers) of Macbeth, an indolic miasma of tuberose, orange blossom and jasmine. But seeping through them is the grainy resinous opoponax, and the smoked tendrils of frankincense. Carnation, rose and cinnamon are only the supporting cast. The resinous node of opoponax and rising smoke from the frankincense are very important because it is what gives body and depth to Poison. This, along with the grape-like nuances in the opening is primarily what is lacking in present day Poison. The resins married to the melange of spices confers a slight bitterness to the whole composition.

The base is heavy and a bit raunchy with civety musks, amber, heliotrope, sandalwood, vanilla, vetiver and cedar, this is just a backbone for all the madness that the top and heart notes evoke. Poison to me is a ‘cold’ oriental compared to Opium which is ‘warm, hot even’. When Poison blends in with your skin, there is more of those warmer base notes that you smell, but there’s still a mild iciness to the whole composition.

The Elixir is actually ‘warmer’ with a stronger honey like effect running throughout the composition, it feels more honey-resin centric, with the smokiness from the frankincense dialled down a smidge perhaps?

Both are massive in terms of performance, sleep in after your night of unholy passion, and you and your lover will still smell of Poison, tried and tested. The silage and longevity are legendary, there was once a time restaurants actually put out signs ‘Do not enter if you’re wearing Dior Poison!’. Urban myth? Knowing Poison and decades of gorgeous people who drenched themselves in this powerhouse I’d be inclined to believe this one.

But this much is true, you need to have that certain iciness in you to truly become one with Poison, sure you can wear it but eventually it will wear you. That bit of ‘je ne sais quoi’ is nothing but a coy smile and dark eyes that can pierce a heart like an icy shard, now you’re ready for Poison.

Your very own,
The Perfume Vigilante

Very strong and a little scary on first application, after a couple of hours it smells like a spicier Poeme--and I adore Poeme. It's all about the honey on my skin.

"Big scents" aren't usually for me, but I keep smelling my wrists! (I sprayed a tiny amount on each wrist, but it lasts. Something I love about the older scents. So many of the new ones just go -poof- after an hour, unless I douse myself in them and spray my clothes.)

Ambrocia scents

I prefer not to use notes listed in perfumes to describe them as not everybody knows what frickin' opoponax smells like lol. A red berry jam. I asked my sister who has no experience with perfumes and notes and she agreed with the jam description! Honestly what I thought La nuit tresor would smell like. Now the opening smells a little scary lol, musky, spicy weird old lady lmao bt a few minutes later its strawberry jam all the way, BEAUTIFUL, sexy, night out. My boyfriend, who doesn't have experience with frangrances either, goes crazy lol. Great perfume

athomas

On me it smells like a combination of very sweet grape, Jasmine, incense, and I think this other very sweet flower smell must be the tuberose.
This perfume is too sweet for my taste, too grape-y. Just a bizarre scent to my nose.
After a short while it started getting a bit too overwhelming, so I sprayed something else over it to kind of tone it down. Moschino's "I Love Love" which is hugely similar to D&G's "Light Blue". But still Poison comes through it very strong.
I guess Poison is a beast.

I do enjoy the story this tells, and it’s exactly what you imagine from the name and bottle. it’s intrigue at first, a dark forest, poisonous wafts of smoke, green or purple and plum, rose thorns and medieval churches that crumble. smooth and magnificent. i see ursula, or storybook villains, bubbling acid. after 2 hours it smells a bit like an old lady, with a big floppy hat and a talking cat or toad. like burgundy and like big beehive hair and little clanking heeled boots. it’s quite mature. maybe like a ripened fruit, a bit past its picking and maybe closer to where it starts shriveling and bloating and bubbling. chain smoking out of cigarette holders, and fur coats. a grandiose grandmother, with stories of a past of escapes and a silver gun and lovers who broke the world for her. i have decided on two occasions to wear this, my divorce, or if i become a psychic.

Dark mysterious fruits with incense florals hints of spices, something a witch would wear on a night out...

It is what it says to be but in my opinion its to dominant and heavy. Directly after application it is way to strong, after 2-3 hours perfect, strong vanilla. I have the rollerball EDT and I add it behind my ear or in my neck if I get a feeling. Hard to combine with other scents, probbly going to give it to a friend

godsgurl

I didn’t like it at first. I found it pungent, but not sickening. “This smells evil and witchy”, I thought. I imagine this is what Snow White’s evil queen would smell like. Realistically, it would be perfect for a halloween party.

Poison is THE perfume that started it all. It's my mother's signature scent, and she had a bottle from the late 80's when I was a child. I wasn't allowed near it very often because of my tendency to put it on whenever I could get my hands on it, understandably she didn't want to run out. It was such an intoxicating scent. She currently owns a bottle from around 2008 which is still half full, and that version in my opinion still holds up. I think you have to have the personality to wear Poison, I understand that it's not for everyone. I could never wear it as much as I love it, reminds me of my mother whenever I smell it.

I was very disappointed by the current version though, it is so weak and different compared to what I remember from my childhood and even the 2008 version. It lacks the warmth of the original. I only tested it on paper though, and I'm willing to give it another try on my skin but unfortunately I'm not hopeful that it'll change my opinion.

seraphinwings

If I was a bug this Poison would kill me.

I can't even go for a second try to give it another chance, that plum/berry is nauseating. I had to scrub it off before it could even develop into something else :(

D&gredcap

Be ready !!!! The vintage bottle is a monster of a perfume - this is one of those that it’s definitely not office safe 😂 someone who doesn’t like strong perfumes can tell you off.

MongooseCriminelle

A candlelit boudoir shrouded in a haze of incense smoke. Juicy berries and red/purple fruits staining crushed velvet. An ornate, sterling silver jar of powder. A baroque mirror flanked by vases of tuberose. You kind of have to arrange the notes into a tangible "scene" to really describe Poison, because it has a very specific sort of character that you can't convey with a list of notes. The whole composition is underscored by a dark, brooding, opulent aura. Like a purple and gold brocade skirt suit with a glass of wine. Or a big, tight updo with black lipstick.

Aside from my verbose opening description, yeah, it absolutely also smells like bug spray/carpet deodorizing powder. Yeah, it kind of smells like an old lady. It's perfect. It actually smells poisonous and repellent, but beautiful, like those stunning orange and blue jungle frogs with deadly toxins seeping out of their neon skin.
It also has a faux-gourmand quality to it. There are gourmand notes, but they are beaten down by white florals and insecticides. There is almost a tug of war between delicious fruit and poisonous chemicals. Sweetness and a slight, foreboding sourness.

Poison is absolutely not for everyone, but to the people it is for, it is a necessity.

Enrium

Poison is the scent that defined the 1980s, and for good reason - it is a notoriously huge, potent fragrance, featuring bombastic tuberose at its heart. It is well-composed, despite its plethora of notes, managing to avoid being "kitchen-sink-y". Syrupy sweet, fruity, floral, woody and slightly spicy, it is actually a cohesive oriental at heart. Poison was marketed beautifully - the explosively strong, sweet perfume, housed in an iconic and irresistable bottle resembling a fairy tale poisoned apple labelled "Poison" is a wonderful result of top-notch creative vision. Edgy yet evoking childhood nostalgia, calling such a perfume "Poison" was a stroke of genius. I am not a child of the 80s, and my mom never wore Poison, but it smells deeply familiar upon testing it today (current EDP).

Poison opens with a blast of syrupy-sweet plum, bolstered by berries. A lovely sweet-spicy accord thanks to the anise and cinnamon adds a nice edge, but the tuberose emerges quickly and it is king, reigning until the final fade. I'm not a big fan of heavy tuberose scents in general, but Poison is undeniably the original and best. Jasmine and orange blossom round out the white floral accord, adding sweet fruity nuances. Here, it is waxy, lush and potent, but too intense for my personal preference. After about two hours, it softens, with sweet ylang ylang emerging, alongside sweet-spicy cloves and cinnamon. Here, it becomes more pleasant to my nose. I get some smoky incense at this stage when the strong florals have subsided a little.

Vanilla and honey, alongside a twist of almond-like heliotrope add a rich sweetness to the base, augmenting the florals as they fade. A sweet amber accord emerges, bolstered by soft woody notes. It becomes musky as it fades, dwindling eventually to a sweet vanilla-amber skin scent with remnants of the everlasting tuberose. Sillage is huge and longevity is day-long, lasting beyond a shower.

A 1980s time capsule, it is feminine in the most extroverted manner possible. Too loud for me to wear, but I appreciate this potent classic. Surprisingly nice craftsmanship, if you can notice it underneath the noise. 4/5.

I have a very vintage bottle with just a small amount left in the bottle. I decided to spray a spritz on each wrist today to finally try this out. I probably tried it when I first acquired this used bottle, but can't remember doing so. I'm shocked this isn't as beast mode as most say. It doesn't smell "off", in fact, it's gorgeous. It definitely smells smoky with some gorgeous white flowers behind that. Maybe it was more potent years ago, but what it is now is divine. I've had it stored in a dark, cool basement for years. Trouble is, when I've used up this small amount I have left, how do I find a bottle so beautifully aged.....perhaps, ebay. Next time I'm at Macy's or Sephora I'll smell the new version, but I'm betting it'll be a ghost of what this beauty is that I'm wearing now. Fingers crossed.

Sanrio

I love this but I've always been too chicken to wear it outside my room of fear of offending people. Plus I always get the Alice Cooper song stuck in my head every time I put it on.

There is a cough syrup note but not in a sickly, medicinal way. More like you can smell whatever flavor they used to try and drown out the medicinal taste of the medicine. Kinda grape (or plummy, I suppose.)

I really get the incense but because the tuberose and plum are so sticky sweet and ripe, it prevents the perfume from going in the dry-choking-smoke incense direction.

It's truly a masterpiece, even reformulated (I'm in love with the modern version.)

Edit: I forgot to mention how prominent the cinnamon is! Which is one of my favorite notes. It makes it stand apart from other "poison-esque" fragrances.

HollyWM

In the company where I worked in the 1980s, a co-worked who had received a promotion treated herself to a bottle of Poison in celebration. Unfortunately, she seemed to bathe in it. The scent would linger, strong as anything, anywhere she'd passed. It must have been a nightmare in a closed meeting with her. Alas, I've never been able to appreciate Poison because I've never smelled it except as overpoweringly strong.

Skinscents4Fusspots

Oh Damn….. my credit card is about to take a beating! When I was a teenager I had a cheap £5 dupe of Poison from the market. I loved it but at some point I moved on to less heady signature scents, but every now and again I’ve thought about testing it out. I went to John Lewis on Oxford Street today and the lady at Dior sprayed the cardboard tester so I could get an idea of the perfume before letting it touch my skin. Woof! It was intense and complicated. That spectacular honeyed plum and incense that I remembered was there, but there was so much going on along side those notes! It was smokier than I remembered. There was an odd, animalic (or maybe urinal? Something barnyardish anyway!) smell lingering and I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but I didn’t hate it and I’m fully aware of how much a perfume can change when it’s actually on the skin, so I asked for a spray on my arm. The first ten minutes I was still unsure. Maybe it’s the musk mixed with coriander? Not sure, but I threw the tester card away and thought nope. Not for me nowadays. Then I picked up a few groceries and got on the tube. Every now and again I got a whiff of Poison. It smelt pretty damn good. I got home (by which time I had been wearing the perfume for about an hour) and it had dried down and calmed down into such a heavenly concoction! Slightly Smokey, balsamic, honeyed plum with just enough vanilla to make it sweet and a sandalwood incense stick gently burning in the background. It is simply remarkable. Utterly original and a masterpiece of perfumery! My wedding perfume was always going to be Dior Forever and Ever, but I am now certain that I will be wearing Poison at the evening party….. and therefore my wedding night ;) Dior have won the special event perfume olympics as far as I’m concerned!

I have to say that I was expecting this to be so so strong, but after a while it’s pretty calm compared to some modern perfumes. You can smell it for sure but I don’t think it’s overpowering or cloying at all. And FYI….. I’m a light and clean perfume wearer normally…. We’re talking Elizabeth Arden Green Tea and Alyssa Ashley White Musk, so I’m saying, it’s not full beast mode compared to flowerbomb for instance, or even Poison’s own hypnotic flanker!

I can’t WAIT to get my own bottle! It will be hard to keep it under wraps until September as I can’t stop sniffing myself and it’s only on one of my arms!

brightsun2205

This is a timeless, seductive, fruity, boozy and spicy scent with a beast performance in the 1980s.

Warning: Super Potent. Beast Mode.

Frangipanilove

Based onto a very old memory…I had one bottle of this in its heyday late 80s. I was a Lou Lou girl but had to give Poison a go at some point, even though it was too much already then. It was the perfume eqivalent of a purple based black lipstick being introduced for the very first time - just too much, too gothic, dangerous but somehow, in its own context also stylish, daring and unique. Its burlesque, a little dangerous, its Siouxie and the Banshees, its black lace and daggers. It is a piece of perfume history everyone should know.

It's magical! 😍
I don't wear it anymore, as I feel like it belongs to a different time, but keep a bottle of it and spray on my wrists once or twice a year.
A deliciously rich, dark, thick, spiced honey, full of passion and mystery. A real magical potion!

lovealwaysalisa

So disappointing. I've been wanting to try this for YEARS as I was sure I would love it based on the notes, but NO.
The opening was fantastic....but then it dried down quickly to PEE CARPET. Yes, like your pet urinated on the carpet or rug, you try to shampoo it out but now it only smells like floral chemicals mixed with the pee smell. I'm soooo sad. Maybe it's just my body chemistry, since I know honey notes can come off as urine smelling at times...

something, anything

I have a 2019 bottle and a splash bottle from the mid-nineties, and they work for different moods.

Because the new formulation is so reduced, all mystery gone, I’ll layer it or spray it freely in a way that I don’t with my splash. I do get something else out of it, even if I'm vaguely resigned to it.

I doubt it can still channel the metaphysical, but it works for me as an everyday totem :)

strawbrrymelk

Honeyed plum and incense.

It's almost useless to speak about Poison at this point, considering how much has been said about it over the years. But I'm nothing if not redundant so here we go!

Poison is probably the most gothic, dramatic, femme-fatale tuberose imaginable. It's drenched in all things decadent, sinful and holy: incense, honey, roses, spices, dark candied plums. It feels like a Dario Argento movie turned fragrance, all shocking, velvety streaks of bright reds and deep purples.

Edouard Fléchier clearly chose violence the day he woke up and composed this thing. Doing so, he spoke right to the heart of the 80's woman, with her propensity for tall hair, acrylic nails and brutal makeup. It feels very 80's in general, with its goth sensibility, baroque excess and neon intensity.

I can never imagine wearing it, yet I can't help but be fond of it. She's way too much, but that's the whole point. Nobody's going to tell you to talk quietly when you have this much to say.

Note to all my young aspiring countesses (who will inevitably gravitate to this beast of a perfume): please, for the love of God, do not wear this indoors. If you must, make sure it's at a rave or something, and not an intimate little restaurant/theatre.

masako_30

I worship Poison as the rarest particle.
Only a short time ago I opened the doors of my house to the poisoning ampoule that, patiently, has waited many years for me to do it.
I chose not to spray it directly the first time, crossing the vaporized cloud upwards.
I stared at the name, Poison, as I held her in my hands. Voices of spells and magic rites echoed. How charming, what a powerful beauty, what a secret lies in this potion.
Now she’s just waiting for me to open my heart, it’ll only take a few moments.

thebloff

An explosion of cinnamon and plum to me. Very fruity and spicy in a great way. Super sweet and candy-like as well. 8/10

Katagood

Layering this with Roberto Cavali Nero Assolutto
is an absolutely beautiful symphony. It draws out the powderyness and heightens the jammy ness of the Plum.
I just love.

staka01

I am testing a decant edt and loving it. At first I get hit with spices and I am a little unsure, then the magic happens. I smell deep plum and underneath an addictive honey note that keeps me sniffing my wrists. Sadly I get at most an hour before I can barely smell anything. Now I may have to look into a vintage, this is a love.

Pearl Sound

Ohh, Dior Poison, my forever love 💜 ... Too heavy to wear, but I just love it since ... forever! No other Poison comes close.

sugarfreespirit

My body chemistry must be completely out of whack... or my nose is dysfunctional. I currently smell like some sort of dark berry jellybean. When I sniff my wrist I get nothing spicy, but when I move around I get tiny bits of incense, almost minuscule but enough to make me less "jellybean" and slightly more woody/honey. Honey-ny? Honey-ish? Anyway. I'll update this after I've had enough time to decide if she's in my top 100 or not. ;)

April 27th 2022
It has been some time. I now claim this as my baby. My precious. My go-to and my comfort scent. I can't get enough of the depth of this smell! It literally smells like the colour of the bottle? Or how I would imagine that colour to smell. Anyway, this is beautiful and gothic and unlike anything I've ever worn before. Yummy.

_NicoleNonya

I've tried every poison line by Christian Dior & none of those IMHO hold a pillar to the original poison.
I buy a 3.4 EDT when Macy's has their friend's & family sale. This scent is my favorite 'Western style' scent.
It's complex, the dry down is stunning. One of my twitter fans made me a gif with my avi on the head for a commercial.
It's poison to my pockets but worth every penny.
There is a .5 oz bottle of the parfum, I wish there was a non alcoholic concentrated oil like the Emirates make via Swiss Arabian or Rasasi.
This came out my birth year, I love it so much.
If you're going to wear this in the summer, 1 spritz if you live in a humid climate. You don't want to set off anyone's allergies.
I truly hope CD never discontinues this one b/c it's an icon w/o the need for advertising. Nothing from the CD line comes close to the magic potion that is this scent. 😻😻😻

mmmmiek

Bought the original 100 ml splash bottle of this edt back in 1985 when I was seventeen... At that time I didn't realise what I know now, about how truly unique of a scent it is. This is one of my first perfume loves, together with Opium, Coco and Shalimar. My father choked on it, so I always dabbed some on and then quickly made my way out of the house to a school party or a night on the town with my punk and new wave friends. :)))))
Because I didn't wear it every day, and somehow I guess I got less interested in smelling interesting when I got my own place, I still have that bottle. Always kept in in the dark, and forgot about it for a long time. Recently decanted it in a little spritzer and now I am loving the hell out of it because it is still going strrronnngggg <3 most of todays offerings in perfumery are definitely no match for this godly nectar. From reading all of the reviews of Dior fragrances I'm a bit afraid of smelling the latest formulation .... cherishing my precious vintage mls.

Mysticmiah1970

Don’t know why I’ve never done a review of this perfume I’ve loved her since 1986 when I received her for my 16th birthday I have had countless bottles over the years and one that has stayed constant in my collection.Poison is a dark vampy fragrance with juicy dark plums.tuberose.Jasmin.amber.vanilla.creamy sandalwood and some spice.a true masterpiece and a fragrance that has stood the test of time.Whether you love her or hate her you’ve got to appreciate her this perfume was way head of it’s time in the 80s I can’t imagine never having this beauty

brumbarche

To me, this is spicy dark plum with a tinge of coolness (coriander?) and its sweetness is not sugary, but honeyed and a bit waxy. The Tuberose does give the 80’s vibe, but if you are bored with this aspect of it, it layers in an intriguing way with Valentino Noir Abs. for an intense evening wear and if Narciso Rodrigues Musc Noir is your daytime wear, Poison chases it perfectly for the dark. It works great in the fall with dark wool jackets/plum tweed and it offers some sensuality, which you won’t find in the more modern classics like the masculine-leaning Tom Ford’s Plum Japonais. You are right to expect no novelty with this fragrance, but don’t let it be a pass just because of it. You don’t need a full bottle to get to know it - you will hardly ever need more than a decant to explore its scent. If you are reading reviews, you probably are already interested in possibilities to enjoy it and if you keep an open mind you might just as well find yourself in a classic’s good company and end up not regretting having gotten to know it.

P.S. I love mixing it with Pink Sugar and I get tons of of compliments.
Once in a blue moon, though, I’d be surprised of myself to appreciate mint in fragrances - V Canto Mirabile; Nishane Unutamam, Eau de Courreges …. Otherwise, it’s just a weird note to me, that I can’t seem to accept it belongs in a perfume, EVER. But for a very exotic modern compliment getting niche twist - try it with Poison. Lightly, though! Poison with a drop of White Jasmine & Mint by Jo Malone worked for me (sharing notes matters!). I can’t guarantee that whatever minty you have (even minty patchouli or for the winter something slightly camphorous) will work just the same, but it’s worth playing with it and see how your niche version of Poison will entice you. C’mon, surprise yourself :) So much fun!

luna k

Anyone who hates the original version of Poison is just wrong.

This smells like 1988. I love 1988, it was one of my favorite years. Poison smells like the color purple, like albums that came out that year, like grape bubble yum, honey and the future.

I've decided this is a litmus test for people my age who were young adults at the time Poison appeared. If you don't like Poison or if you can't connect it to a memory from those times then you're not an interesting person and you probably hate other things I love too. You should be able to remember the first time you smelled it on someone because it was just. that. special.

inesvil7

Dior Poison is a punch in your face that will knock you out and send you to heaven. I can't believe I waited until today to test it. A masterpiece.

Gobtholemew

They call it poison because if you spray it within 50 feet of someone with fragrance sensitivities they'll actually stop being alive

PerfumeNoob2

For me this is like that new girl in a friend group who I dislike at first, because she’s too loud, tries too hard and wants to be something she is not. But over some time (when you actually get to know her) she’s not as bad as she seemed. We would probably not be friends but we would tolerate each other.

That is how I feel about this perfume. There’s too much going on for me, but the scent is nice. I would never wear it out though, so I’m thankful I only bought a sample.

christopher.chase21

I’ve reviewed this before, but just put this beauty on my wrists from a vintage 0.25 Parfum dabber bottle with the clear class stopper. The juice inside has turned a dark grape color and is almost syrupy/oily when applied. One thing I know about Poison is that it doesn’t lose it’s magic as it ages. I’ve owned countless vintage bottles of this stuff and it’s always potent and magical. I fell in love with the current formulation: toned down on the sillage, but still a plummy and spicy velvet purple like a witch’s cape. When I wear Poison I picture the quintessential Dior fashion of purples and greens with avante garde wraps and the statement belt. As an 80s child I remember my babysitter wearing this and falling in love with its ‘grape accord’. It smells clean and resinous with cinnamon and incense sparkled with a glittery plum. Definitely polarizing and needed in moderation to appreciate its complexity of notes. A masterpiece of Dior. Even the current formulation is magnificent even after reformulations. It’s slightly more powdery, but the notes and strength are still there. Please don’t ever stop making this Dior! It made its mark in perfume history and she still drives by in her jet black Phantom with her purple glittery scarf blowing in the wind as she whisks by.

robzgirl2009

It's a striking spicy, fruity, woody fragrance for a Diva. You really have to be that bish to pull this one off. Very sexy when paired with a black leather jacket/faux leather pants. The initial spray may be too much for some but you gotta let this one bloom as time goes on. This is a date night/night time perfume. Great for winter. Splendid performance too.

SweetJhane

I can’t get past the piercing white flowers. They cut out everything else for me. I don’t find any amber, sweetness, softness, powder, or woods. I just can’t wear Poison, but I love the beautiful bottle.

Lemxx

This is so beautiful!!! It’s my second favourite poison! First one is Midnight Poison :) but this smell feels like smooth silky cashmere. I can definitely smell carnation, rose and incense. It has a smokey-powdery makeup smell but more deep also it smells little bit dramatic. When I smell this perfume I see an opera singer who has a dramatic tone.

Konga5000

My mother and I both wore the original Poison in the 80s. I just got a tester of the newest version and decided to wear it today. What a delight--it's the first time this stuff has been on my skin in decades! It makes me want to put on too much black eyeliner and listen to my Cocteau Twins records. I feel sorry for people who are unable to enjoy this because it's not like it used to be. Honestly, the small differences that I detect are arguably improvements. 1. I still get the grape juice accord that I remember so fondly, but now I also smell some of the actual flowers, too--especially the rose, which is lovely. 2. I do not believe the sillage is perceptible a couple of towns over, as it was in the 80s. I think a lot of people who complain about reformulations of 80s fragrances are missing the large blast radiuses of the originals. At the time I remember wishing that the perfumes everyone was wearing could just calm down a little bit. Walking into a bar (or a high school classroom) back then could cauterize your nostrils. I'm okay with keeping my fragrance a bit closer to myself.

I have a tiny treasure coming my way for Christmas from hubby. A 15ml esprit, from launch year 1985, new in box. Distributed by Parfums Christian Dior of 30 Avenue Hoche. Early etched batch number 53

Can't wait for this little gem to arrive! I have the modern EdT, and it just doesn't do it for me.

Update 12/13/2021
Finally got this after a painfully long mail delay. Oh my, how glorious it is nestled in its flip-lid box. The stopper is glass, not plastic. What a little beauty! Can't believe I own this rarity. I'll update when I crack it open.

This is a classic I actually really like this considering I don’t like the others like poison girl and hypnotic poison. I thought I wouldn’t like this one and I’m not gonna lie I didn’t touch this one on my shelf for a fair while since I brought it but over the last few days I’ve been wearing it in it. And iv had several compliments on it I love how it’s not juvenile nor old smelling I love the spices to this! Don’t know how it was in the summer but it’s definitely a cold weather scent. Lasts about 5 hours on my skin and I find this quite polarising as well

What to say about this iconic fragrance that has not been said before..... for me, there is something to be said about transcendence....a smell, a taste, a sound or a touch that invokes such a stong reminiscence that it transcends you to a place, a time, a space that you thought you forgot about....but now awake to find, it was there all along. Unpologeticly, boldly, unashamedly, there. Thats Poison by Dior. You will remember the first time you smelled it. The same way you remember where you were and what you were doing when a remarkably unusual event occurred.

Cxavenoir

This is incredible, beautiful and spellbinding certainly not your typical millennial smelling fragrance, this harkens back to a time with evil queens, cursed maidens and deadly sirens that led men to their deaths.

You can’t be a wallflower with this fragrance, the combination of tuberose, overripe plum and incense creates an insidious atmosphere that has been ‘glamoured’ to look inviting and opulent. Huge sillage, obnoxious projection and sticks to skin and sheets like crazy.

Enjoy.

I am so in love with this perfume. This was handed down to me by my mother, who had a vintage bottle, gifted by my father many years ago. She dislikes it as it is very strong. This is not for most people, and i have yet to meet someone who loves this. It is a very misunderstood perfume, it takes time and close observation to understand it. It lasts for days and days on clothes, and will not disappear completely even after a shower. One of my favourite perfumes ever.

I am just now experiencing Poison for the first time and it certainly is everything I dreamed it would be. Poison is such a dark, romantic scent that has swept me off my feet. I definitely see the similarities to Lou Lou, but Poison is much softer, more refined and elegant. Plum and incense are the strongest notes to my nose. I don't think I have ever worn a perfume before that made me feel this beautiful.

I believe this actually smells beautiful and bold. Unlike some other comments who dislike this perfume, personally this one of the perfumes that wins my heart I wore this back in the 80s where I was still in primary school. It belonged to my mon and I applied it on me a few times when I had chance to open her drawer. Lol. Ofcourse at that time it felt too heavy, too mature and too strong. I haven't worn it again since. Planning to buy a bottle of poison dior and as I said earlier I believe this will smell nice to me. I still have the recollection on how it smelled. I could pick the scent of a rootbeer and ripen plums and vanilla without any musk, which is good because I hate musk. Being potent without musk. That's kind of rare in a perfume.

I am one of those people that gets the pee smell from initial spray until about an hour later. Then I get just the most tart and intense plum note that literally makes my mouth water. This initial blast of plum is similar (to my nose) to plum rain by lush. It dries down somewhat (after four hours, what) to some florals and sweets I can't separate right now. I'm gonna need to spend more time with this scent but I'm a little obsessed with this. It's not cozy in the slightest and I wouldn't recommend this for the shy, but it is delicious, bold, unique, and an absolute beast. Be patient with it and let it sit all day to see how it changes.

-Soapy white floral scent.
-Elegant in a slightly outdated way.
-Has indolic tuberose that somehow manages to remind me of cat piss. (-)

Dior Poison (1985) - plum tuberose - #edouardflechier ‘s legendary powerhouse has an interplay between spiced plum and white florals, mainly Tuberose, Orange flower and Jasmine. But this isn’t just a fruity #fracas as it holds your interest as it develops. As it dries down, you get baking spices, Honey, Incense on a solid structure of resins, white musks and woods. Beautiful.
