So sad this gem is discontinued.

Morgoth01

@Martin__

Most websites are showing "out of stock"

The shortage happened shortly after the release of "Dior Patchouli Elixir Precieux" which is 10 times the price and smells almost identical

Probably a marketing move by Dior.

Update: I asked an employee today in a Dior store. They said its discontinued

Martin__

@seacoins - the news IS fake. It's the same story as it was with Leather Oud and Feve Delicieuse. LO wasn't discontinued and people spread the info it is discontinued. Patchouli Imperial may be discontinued from local Dior boutiques and may be left to buy in Paris boutiques exclusively. Just like LO. Every local Dior boutique can order bottles of PI from Paris. Again, same story with Vetiver AND Leather Oud.

Seacoins

@martin_ This news wasn't fake about the information that Patchouli Imperial is discontinued...

I live in the UK, and today I went to Selfridges in Manchester to buy a back up bottle for Patchouli Imperial at Dior Stand, then I was told is discontinued and out of stock..

But if you go to Dior website Patchouli Imperial is still available to buy though.

Martin__

I don’t know why someone is spreading false information, that Patchouli Imperial (among others) is discontinued. IT’S NOT.

https://www.dior.com/en_pl/beauty/products/patchouli-imperial-Y0908280.html

It is still available to purchase and not going anywhere.

Dior Patchouli Imperial is my favorite from the Privee collection. It's a dressy amber woody fragrances with spices and of course, patchouli. It's unisex, leaning masculine. It's sexy, slightly sweet but it's a punch in the nose in the best possible way. Performance is great - above average longevity and strong sillage.

Patchouli Imperial Dior
()

First impression
Patchouli Imperial (for short PI) is quite a fragrance for me. I don’t know that I do like it yet or not but all I know that is very fine creation.

At first, I think of Tempo (I call him the patchouli blue print) but this is have heavily resinous quality to it.

IP, later on. Introduce warm patchouli as well.
Medicinal aspect form unknown ingredient.

And sweet quality underneath.
This truly reminds me of Coromandel but not as sweet.

There is certain musty feel that I don’t like.
Don’t know where does it come form.

But I will be light and day choose this over Coromandel.

(Full wear; Love, Confession and Reunite Letter)

I wrote previous review on first arrival of PI, when I get my hands on.
I write it a bit under influencing of my dear friend.

After I wrote my pervious review...
I have never wore this one.
And my blind praise start to fade away, I start to dislike this one.
It's wried, it a bit musty. It sort of dirty. It's coriander. I don't understand him.
And I pass this to my archive collection. you know, for the shake of rare find.

Time pass, found that I actually love Patchouli fragrance, not overly dirty one.
Either Rose-Patchouli, Gourmand-Patchouli and eventually
I come back to Amber-Patchouli...one.

I reunited with Coromandel EDP, I dislike from influencing from friends too.
But actually, the sweet white chocolate with earthy woody patchouli.
It's really cute and cozy earthy warmth to wear, when I justify fragrance on my own.

2-3 days ago, I revisit few other patchouli fragrance in my archive.
(and I just notice I have quite amount of Patchouli..) I revisit White Patchouli by TomFord.
Follow with TomFord Noir. I notice that clean patchouli fragrance is quite not my Jam.
But I really like TomFord Noir, that powdery amber patchouli. I really enjoy that one..
I remember I fall in love with it, since the first day.

I bring out PI once again. after many month in archive.
I understand him and reunite with him again..

Don't judge this one too fast because the patchouli in this is rug and dirty.
you gotta wait like 30 mins.. so the powdery amber start to form.
Harmonize with that patchouli, and by that time. I think PI smell very
harmonic and beautiful.

I think finest Amber Woody - Patchouli I have got in my collection.
Equal amount of Patchouli in beautiful Amber, when everything mellow out.
It's just gorgeous stuff right there, on my skin. I have a mild tint of floral.

PI, have a little sweetness in it in the middle.
From creamy vanilla, it disappear when it goes deeper in the base.
It transit to more woodier side but still everything still in Amber.

Yeah, I like this one more a lot.
Maybe my taste develop into it.
But I am glad that I cling on to it.

I will rate this 9/10 now, my kind of everyday patchouli..

Silverquick

Intense. Animalic. Nothing remotely resembling Coromandel. This is unrestrained, intense and not at all floral or sweet. Airy, dry, slightly bitter and almost Smokey.

Beast mode and very masculine.

I love a dark rich patchouli (or a spicy ambered one). I got a touch of dark patchouli briefly on opening, before something resembling a deep leather kicked up with a strong animalic touch which had a rough almost raw leather feel. One for me that can turn the stomach a bit. Then it gets almost soapy in the deep dry down.

I’m kind of thankful it’s not working on my skin as it’s discontinued. It’s a room filler with really good longevity though. Enjoy!

**** update ****
If anyone is trying to find this and is sad it’s discontinued try Perris Monte Carlo’s patchouli nosy be extrait. It is very similar, soft and round and long lasting. High quality and I don’t need to find a bottle of Dior anymore because it’s scratching the same itch.

While visiting a friend I was able to wear this. I instantly fell in love and went to buy a bottle only to discover it has been discontinued. Im heartbroken. If anyone is selling a bottle please message me. I cannot stop thinking about the amazing cloud I lived in for one amazing day bohemian dreams are made of.

Fumeslover

I. Wasn’t. Ready. 😳

This one right here starts slightly sweet with the citruses and then heads straight to a beautiful earthy patchouli just like in Coromandel but where coromandel taps you on the shoulder to get your attention, Patchouli Imperial slaps you right across the face. 😆😆 Underlying the patchouli in Patchouli Imperial is a beautiful amber which is the second big player with hints of the tonka peeking through. This one is gorgeous. PROVIDED you like earthy patchouli. It’s very similar to Coromandel but more serious and in your face. Coromandel has that white chocolate which I really don’t get much of but it gives a nice little gourmandy touch to the patchouli. Patchouli Imperial heads off more into amber territory.

What really prompted this mini review is the performance. ClaudeHaMercy! I did ONE spray on SKIN on my forearm, not clothes and the first hour or so, I felt like it was going to choke me out. It’s my day off so I decided to go back to bed after getting up super early to do some work, so maybe being under the covers amplified that sense of being choked out? EIGHT hours later, I’m holding my phone and this ONE spray keeps wafting up to my nose. I’m a 12-15 sprays type of gal but I have officially met my match. If I did that many sprays I think I would die. So I’ll be doing TWO sprays, maybe 3 if I’m feeling adventurous.

Super glad to have this stunning patchouli in my collection.

Stoopid Phresh

I started punching the air when I smelled this 😅 Its smells so damn gud! Demachy on the track again with another classic stunner that's oozing with quality! Smells like dusty, smokey amber 💨

mo choudhury

right off the bat, Diptyque tempo.
I have Guerlain l'instant and Nasomatto pardon, they more on the dusty cacao side.
patchouli imperial is wet, damp and earthy like tempo.
l'instant have that same vibe at the beginning but then turns to that dusty cacao.

derby2169

Patchouli Imperial is a strange name, because there is nothing really about patchouli that I would consider 'imperial' smelling. I love patchouli for what it is, woody, earthy, raunchy, leafy, and it is at full display in Patchouli Imperial, dense, dark, cloaked in an benzoin amber veil in the usual attempt of producing chocolate undertones.

I am strongly reminded of Patchouli Reminiscence, a 70s chocolatey patchouli fragrance with strong balsamic and vanillic elements, of course only in structure not in quality, the Dior feels much more intense and high end with much better performance. People often mention Reminiscence as a Coromandel alternative, but I find it a closer substitute for this one.

Honestly I find it a bit redundant, there are just so many chocolate patch ambers in the market currently, but if you want a heavier, denser, darker, earthier version of the Coromandel genre this is a good option.

The Wolf

Wore this today, and refreshed my sprays as I record my thoughts. Very refined and smooth. Although this doesn't have big transitions and feels somewhat linear, the patchouli itself has some layers. It opens up big and earthy. Patchouli smells like it has some leather, vetiver, and even orris nuances.

It kinda reminds me of the smell of baseball equipment when I was a kid. Specifically, the balls themselves and mits that have been used on the field. There's some smokiness to it as well. Overall a great patchouli scent and the drydown is really, really good.

Scent 7.6/10
Performance 7/10

Ty/dc

I’m surprised at how little hype this one has received because it smells amazing!! Definitely a standout scent within the privee collection. A patchouli lovers dream.

cedrat

The drydown has similarities to Coromandel. The sweet white-chocolate patchouli accord is prominent. With Coromandel I smell it throughout the life of the fragrance, whereas with Patchouli Imperial, I can only smell it in the later stages of the scent's evolution. Other than this, Coromandel and Patchouli Imperial are quite different and not redundant at all.

t3nlikescookies

I think patchouli prominent perfumes (together with patchouli incense sticks) have become my new obsession.
Patchouli Imperial was an accidental find but I immediately fell in love. It smells like wet towels left in a stale dingy basement and I can't get enough of it. Simply divine.
It reminds me of Coromandel but without that Chanel ooomph-magic. The two don't smell the same but I feel like owning both would be a bit redundant.

Btw Patchouli Imperial is definitely not discontinued (for now). I could find it at the Dior counter in my local department store as well as on the Dior website.

MissAnnette

On paper the opening smells like moldy wood quite similar to Coromandel that I really loved, but on my skin it is all musty clothes and paper. Im familiar with the smell as my grandma is a bit of a hoarder. This smells like her trunk full of her children’s baby clothes, pictures and letters. This stage lasted 4hrs in my skin. Unfortunately, I couldn’t wait for the drydown on my wrist as I had to bathe my cat. The creamy amber-patch drydown on paper lasted for a week. I enjoy wafts of it from the paper on my bedside table. Might be full bottle worthy for that delicious drydown.

Ilyags

Is anyone interested in selling theirs?? I’m looking to buy

@ingeneuxo

Your sources are incorrect, for sale on Dior’s site at this moment.

ingeneuxo

-A discontinued scent according to my sources.
-Smells earthy, like dirt. Damp dirt, to be specific.
-Dries down more mild, soft and rather wearable. Sweet with hints of cinnamon.
-I quite enjoy the dry down. It's reminiscent of Yerba Mate tea.
-Worth exploring. (+)

I've had an amazing opportunity to buy almost full 250 ml vintage bottle of Patchouli Imperial produced back in 2017.

First of all - both pre-reformulated and the new version is the same fragrance.

Direct test 2017 vs 2018:

They are the same, the only difference is that so called "vintage" juice is slightly darker in appearance. It also seems to be a little more dense and has a little bit more of woody nuances (I don't know - it has to be the sandalwood). The new one on the other hand is slightly brighter in terms of smell and is also a bit more spicy because of more nuanced coriander note. In general if I didn't know the old one the new one is very good. I don't regret I bought the "vintage" but the new version does its job.

Martin__

Dior Patchouli Imperial (2018) vs Chanel Coromandel (2016):

Dior opens up with a wet, cold mold - semi-dry one. Then it slowly sweetens up with tonka bean and amber.
Chanel opens up with a mix of aldehydes (a lot of them), flowers and a pinch of white chocolate (hidden far behind). I cannot smell any singular flower (rose per se or any other). This dries down into patchouli (rather not raw, but not very mild on the other hand) - sweet, cozy and warming; resins and incense (this is in the background but is detectable). The patchouli here gives you chocolate'y vibe so all combined together might smell for some like there is a milk chocolate with cocoa.

In general - Dior is simpler, but its patchouli in general is more "in your face" and it is straight patchouli. Chanel is more sophisticated and much more complex.

If you want patchouli as its essence - choose Dior. If you want a more complex variation - choose Chanel.

Martin__

I actually do own a bottle of 2018 version of this fragrance.

This is a milder take on patchouli than the one presented in Coromandel. Patchouli is wet, but much brighter than what Chanel's fragrance presents. You can still smell that familiar basement, cellar aroma, but it's lighter. And I would say it is much more friendly. It leans a little bit towards gourmand, but not excessively so. Still a patchouli, without a doubt.

I also own Coromandel - both EDT and EDP. I personally would put Dior's Patchouli somewhere between Chanel Coromandel's EDT and EDP. However, Coromandel's EDP does not have that much sweetness - and the reason is simple - there is no tonka in it.

Longevity is somewhere around 8 hours, sillage is medium.

I like it, but owning two bottles of Coromandel does not push me towards buying this.

Pacifica_

I love the sillage of this perfume, it literally drives me crazy. The sillage is very vanilla, benzoin, and amber. The patchouli & bergamot is more apparent when smelled on the skin. I have to say I dislike the opening on the skin. I get a very smokey note for maybe the first 10 minutes, then it goes away. Your skin does smell like a bonfire for a bit. This may appeal to some, but I really dislike smoke smells. It makes it too masculine. However, this gets a high rating from me because the sillage and complete dry down are just immaculate. I just love vanilla and bergamot notes in conjunction in perfumes. It’s a very unique patchouli scent as well. Most patchoulis are too heady and resinous; this is quite intoxicating but very wearable.

Sillage is amazing, it projects maybe 8-10 ft, but isn’t offensive like many other strong sillage perfumes. It really draws you in. Lasting power is good, 6-8 hours on me.

Full bottle worthy for sure. I am saving up for some other fragrances right now so for the time being I got the 7.5ml bottle.

Bow collector

Dior is still selling 8.5 oz on their website. I just got one. It’s the best $320 I’ve spent. It’s a magnificent unisex scent that will lean whichever way you want it to! Sad to see it be an exclusive for Paris if Rumors are true (I think they are) 9.4/10

piyux

Dior Patchouli Imperial opens with a strong projection of green, sweet, gourmand, and woody accords. The opening is fresh, classy, projecting, old-school, refined, and pleasant. The patchouli is the green and most prominent opening note, sharp, intense, very elegant note. Two or three steps behind are the rest of the notes. The bergamot and mandarin orange are noticeable but for a brief moment, they enhance and add a sweet citrusy touch to the green patchouli but their presence is short-lived. The cinnamon and coriander are the spicy and mild support notes, they come up as spicy-sweet, slightly woody, and warm, from the two of them, the coriander is more noticeable. The vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood, and benzoin create a mild sweet accord. The benzoin and amber are noticeable with their characteristic warm, sweet, and resinous accords that, in addition to the vanilla, give the fragrance a sweet gourmand touch balancing the intense green and sharp patchouli. The smoke is a projecting and enhancing note, it does not come across as incense, but as just a pleasant woody smoke touch. The rose and cedar are support notes, in the background, the cedar is noticeable, the rose is faint and almost lost in the background. The fragrance is very linear, the citruses are noticeable during the opening, but they fade away towards the dry down, the rest of the notes maintain their initial lineup. The initial projection takes a step down to moderate but the fragrance still feels intense. Once Dior Patchouli Imperial has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, green patchouli, resinous sweet amber, benzoin, smokey, and spicy coriander fragrance with woody, and sweet accords. The fragrance feels aromatic, classy, dated, delectable, dense, earthy, elegant, energizing, expensive, formal, green, heavy, herbaceous, high-quality, imposing, inviting, mature, natural, nicely-blended, old-fashion, resinous, refined, rich, sophisticated, sweet, unisex, versatile, woody, and very pleasant.

Tapinview

I sort of under rated this perfume when I first got my decant. I'm writing here because I do think/guess the Maison version has to be similar because what the hell can you do with patchouli. My first go to is wearing actual patchouli oil, at the moment I've got both a refined oil and a black iron oil. But to be honest they both smell like patchouli maximum. I put it on cotton patches in amongst stored clothes like apparently they used to do in the olden days. I absolutely adore raw patchouli and I don't care who knows it because I'm an old boomer hippie. I've got Lutens Borneo, gorgeous, but slightly more masculine, the Reminiscence version, rather warmly ambery. I took my decant of vintage L Labo P 24 and tipped a heap of natural black patchouli into it, damn wonderful even if a tad masculine for my nose. (P.S., do not really mix and you have to shake it). But, the old version of Patchouli Imperiale is my favourite. Patchouli perfection. The rumours of discontinuation are terribly worrying, please say it ain't so....🥺🥺🥺

Voice-Of-God

When I hear the word Patchouli my mind immediately takes me back to the mid 70's and making out with rock chicks at Thin Lizzy gigs at the Glasgow Apollo. I kinda liked the making out part, but wasn't so keen on the Patchouli Oil aspect. ;)))

So... I first tested this with a bit of trepidation. You never know what you're gonna get from the new MCD range, some are great and some are crap. This is...

...an interesting fragrance - at first I was kinda ambivalent... but after wearing it a few times it kinda grew on me. It's actually a bit hard to articulate what I get from it.

It is at the same time spicey, warm, ambery, and sweet, but it also has a slight dirty aspect in the background. I say dirty in a good way, in the same way I like the dirtiness in Leather Oud. In fact, the dirty aspect in this reminds me of the dirty bit in Leather Oud after it's had a shower, shave, washed its hair and put a smart suit (or dress) on. ;) I'd say it leans a tinge masculine, but could be quite interesting on the right lady.

I find it strangely comforting once it settles down on me. It's a bit like that girl who you really liked but never thought you'd be any more than friends... and then you kiss and it's quite the opposite. You really dig it. ;)

I find it has great silage and longevity and after a few hours, eventually settles down to a warm, velvety amber that's smoother than a porn stars pussy! ;)

So, to sum up...

Patchouli Imperial - I didn't think I'd be into you, but you sneaked up on me with the efficiency and stealth of a Ninja. It's a rather unexpected like from the Voice of God! ;D

ps: If you're a rock chick in her 50's and still wearing Patchouli Oil I've got a top tip on a new perfume for you. ;D

whoaboy

I love this scent because there is no other perfume out there quite like it. On me, the patchouli is balanced the entire time by a watery top note, be it citrus or more like water/watermelon/honeydew. The patchouli is not that cheap, dirty one you smell up and down Haight Street; it's refined and fresh. The other surprise is the amber, which balances the patchouli from the bottom up. I usually loathe amber scents but in this fragrance it works in perfect three-part harmony with the melon and patchouli. Also, the packaging is timeliness, simple yet elegant. The bottle and cap feel as expensive as they are. Usually, I buy the smallest bottle of any scent since scents can go bad. In this case, I went for the big boy, as it looks so classic.

KIZILBAY

Bence adini hak ediyor. Kalite hissi yuksek ve ağırbaşlı. Her zaman bu parfümün 2 kat yüksek konsantrasyonunu nasil olacağını merak etmişimdir. Eskisi muhtemelen insani biraz bunaltabilirdi ama yenisi bence inanılmaz güzellikte bir parfum haline gelirdi. Gençler sevmeyecektir bunu. Bence aşırı sıcaklar disinda her zaman kullanılabilir. Tüm gün kalabilecek düzeyde olmadığı için gün icinde 2 defa daha tazelemek gerekecektir.

arae

I love patchouli fragrances. This is wonderful. I get the same joy spraying this as I do Midnight Poison and Chanel Coromandel...my go to perfumes. Saving up to purchase a bottle.

tonileefiore

So, every once-in-a-while, I go through phases whereby I wish to expand my go-to fragrances. Patchouli, rose, oud, incense, musk, jasmine, smoky, etc blends (unisex or leaning towards the feminine side) are what I crave. I read some stellar reviews about this fragrance, so I decided to purchase a sample.

As others have stated, this fragrance performs exactly as promised. For me, it is a fairly linear, straight-forward, clean, more "green versus dark" patchouli fragrance that lays against a gently composed sandalwood back-drop. Period.

No hippie-level noted here...not dirty, not earthy, not grungy, IMHO. I dislike "hippie" patchouli smelling stuff...you know the oily, resinous, dark, heavy, heady, dreary stuff...yuck. However, I do prefer patchouli fragrances that are a bit more complex, moody, dark and interesting than Patchouli Imperial. For me, Patchouli Imperial is a bit too fresh, chipper, clean & bright...not exactly what I look for in a patchouli fragrance.

And as others have also stated, while this fragrance is attractive and appealing, it also seems to go "dull," or "dead" after a while. On me after an hour or so, the fragrance just "dropped."

I say for the "general masses," Patchouli Imperial is extremely wearable. I prefer the above mentioned notes combined in a more complex way, a way that packs more of a punch. For me, I prefer patchouli blended fragrances that are a bit more "niche-y."

Patchouli Imperial is a great choice for someone who opts to wear a reserved, refined & tamed patchouli fragrance.

Nice enough...just not for me!

Lom

Simply superb, if you are a Patchouli lover. So long lasting, extremely high quality. Nothing more, nothing less. Just high quality Pathouli.

This is utterly ridiculous that the same perfumer creates a fragrance, reformulates it and then this is being discontinued. From reformulation(if it took place -I doubt it) to discontinuation it took them 1 year.

Something really wrong is happening with the house of Dior. They are destroying their best fragrances.

Skrewface

I've been forewarned by two different Dior sales rep. that Patchouli Imperial is being discontinued.

Quite sad news as the scent is magical.

For those who haven't experienced it yet, I can guide you a bit by stating that it is not your typical earthy Patchouli a lá "Monsieur" by Frederic Malle but as the notes gives up, a more balsamic sweetness to it.

noseyboysniffy

This fragrance has exceeded my expectations, a little sweet, a little spicy, a little smoky, a little resinous, very smooth, a little playful yet elegant. I love how harmoniously blended it is. I was not expecting to fall in love with this because I’m not a big fan of patchouli. 12+ hours on my skin, that’s impressive for me because my skin drinks up fragrances but yeah! I’m definitely getting a full bottle. Reformulated or not! This juice is legit. Nothing but love from me.

dhvni

no idea about the reformulation, but i have the latest one and again, just like the oud ispahan, this does not smell girly at all! women who are mature or girls who like mysterious, masculine and mature fragrances can go for this one, lasts long, you can still get a faded smell from your clothes even the next day.

RichMitch

It is reformulated. You can smell the difference. It's poorer for it (although not as bad as the new leather oud, which is disgraceful). The appropriation of other perfumers work should shame Demachy in to retirement

SheogorathWaldo

It isnt reformulated everyone, it is a rebranding. It is also putting Francois Demanchy's name on every fragrance instead of the actual perfumer.

msafro

Patchouli Imperial (2011) is the part of La Collection Privee. I have it for the last 3 years, and like it as I like everything patchouli. When was it reformulated?

Sezavr

It's relatively new - a bit reformulated with updated packaging and put in a new collection, Maison Christian Dior, as most of the fragrances in this collection.
