Putain des Palaces by Etat Libre d'Orange is a Floral fragrance for women. Putain des Palaces was launched in 2006. The nose behind this fragrance is Nathalie Feisthauer.

Sheer sensuous fantasy. The powdered top note evokes a woman who dresses for seduction – a soft trail of lipstick, the rustling of lace. The intimate ritual of a femme fatale who sees right through the fragile armour of men. Her sophistication is intriguing, as is the commerce she makes of her body. Under the bitter-sweet touch of almond, like a secret that unfolds, comes a hint of supple leather, fluid and flexible, that introduces what is to come : a boudoir, fingers that tighten on a leatherette sofa and the palpable presence of raw desire. Doesn’t every woman have the fantasy of being a temptress in a hotel bar, of yielding to desire in the intimacy of a lift or of giving way to sensuality in silk sheet luxury ?

Composition: Rose absolute, violet, leather, lily of the valley, tangerine, ginger, rice powder, amber, animal notes...

Nose for this fragrance is Nathalie Feisthauer.

Putain des Palaces Etat Libre d'Orange
(60 usd, BNIB Tester, 100 ml.)

I would personally classified Putain des Palaces by Etat Libre d'Orange as classic violet-iris with strong suede touch and floral support. This is remotely reminds me of other scent in this realm.

However, what I like especially about this is the fact that this is more masculine than rest.
Somehow, I think because of Suede element have mild animal tone and dry down to powdery amber. The transit is smoothly done between Powdery Iris and Powdery Amber.

It has mild sweetness undertone from amber and floral
(I don't get anything strongly, it kind of round).
I think Putain des Palaces can be used by both Man and Woman.
Because Suede dry down, it is smell quite handsome.
This might be my favorite from this realm.

9/10

Ps. I think this make TomFord Violet Blonde great alternative.
It is not definitely not the same, as Iris in Violet Blonde stays drastically longer.
But the suede touch, the violet touch, the spicy touch, the floral touch is kind of there.
I personally like this more than Violet Blonde, VB is a bit more womanly imho.

gardenia9

If you go by the notes you think you will find a classic powdery floral but that is not the case.
It starts with a funkiness, like Jicky with rose instead of lavender. Quickly it morphs to a polite purple floral that stays thick but soft until the end of the fragrance.
Longevity is excellent. It is very nice but not amazing.

Chloerose666

Opens with a strong blast of alcohol followed by pure baby wipes. I was all set to scrub it straight off but you've got to give things a fair chance. It quickly settled into more of a creamy, musky floral with a hint of baby wipes.

The more I sniffed at my wrist the better it seemed to smell. After an hour the baby wipe smell was gone for me, and it left me with a really sweet smelling musk, which I enjoy. Its very very feminine to my nose and my BF absolutely would not wear this so I wouldn't even describe this as Unisex. I get the musk, amber and sweet powdery vibes. Still able to smell on wrist after 14 hours and the longer it was on the more I liked it :)

ELdO seems to have a knack of making me hate the opening, and love the dry down, or the complete opposite haha.

After reading all the reviews describing this to be vintage, powderbomb, granny, baby wipes, skanky, leathery, I thought my bottle is fake because I don’t get that at all. Now I actually think that my bottle is real but this isn’t as powdary, leathery, skanky or vintage as I was expecting, and I love vintage powderbombs. It’s very feminine, sweet, fruity, marshmallow-like. I barely smell all its powder (to be fair for me kenzo - flower isn’t powdary enough so maybe I’m a bit nose kind to this kind of powder). If I concentrate I can smell maybe a faint touch of leather behind all the feminine marshmallow sweetness. I’m quite disappointed.

Serayyaren

a bottle of estrogen… If you're going on a date with a guy, I use this... it drives men crazy.

massimilianoinquieto

E' un profumo retrò morbido e sensuale.
Sofisticato, polveroso, molto vicino ai sensi. Sulla pelle calda è speziato, intrigante, malizioso e sensuale.

midsommarhäxa

A really gorgeous powdery violet and leather perfume. Just enough old world classic charm while also feeling fresh. I get no rose, and a nice touch of animalic and amber base. I adore it!

pleurs

I wanted to like this so bad because I love the name but I just CAN'T get over the extreme powder notes...I smell like a baby wipe :( not the worst, but not great.

Marlinte

Full on powdery, nostalgic make-up and soft leather scent.
Really nice.

ysads

It really smells like make up for me - something like face powder, lipstick or whatever (I'm not that great with make up terminology haha)
The name honestly has nothing to do with the smell, because in no way this brings me lust or provocation - if anything it's more like my grandma's dressing table.
Don't love it, but I don't think it's that special.

giuliatrapletti

this literally made me travel in time to the 1700s and reincarnated me into marie antoinette herself

leoniecamille

gorgeous powdery, raunchy scent reminiscent of Marie antoinette. it reminds me of that scene where she covers herself with an oversized ornate fan. so sad this is discontinued.

PlatMik

Very nice start and drydown, starts juicy rose and flowery might smell a bit like baby wipes when it goes into the drydown

nourmkld

Upon the initial spray, the perfume's name felt mismatched. Notes of baby wipes and sweaty musk transition to powder, lipstick, and a subtle rose. It's niche, requiring a specific mood to wear. Not my usual choice, yet the creamy quality makes me catch sniffing myself constantly.

Aers Etat Libre d'Orange Advent Calendar

I bought the ELdO discovery set and made it my advent calendar. I'll try to post a review every day in the order the samples are in the set.

Day 11 - Putain des Palaces

Provocation for provocation's sake is kind of a bit of the deal with ELdO. So it comes as no surprise when the handbook that comes with the discovery says provocatively that "Putain des Palaces" is an invitation to "release your inner slut". "Be a slut or just smell like one" it says in bold letters. So how exactly do "sluts" smell?

Apparently, they smell powdery and sweet, primarily. And they're very much in a hurry. Putain des Palaces started immediately as a powdery, lipstick kind of sweet fragrance which I guess does not come as much of a surprise. Many fragrances that try to evoke pictures of romance, sultryness and sex go in that exact direction. So when Putain des Palaces hit me with a strong amount of it, it fit my expectations pretty well. It started pretty strong in terms of projection and it kept that over the day. I sprayed it conservatively on my wrist and even 10 hours later, I could still clearly smell the powdery sweetness at arm's length.

In terms of development, it first developed very quickly but then stopped going any further at all - hence the 'hurry' in the beginning. Within half an hour, the powdery sweetness got a dirty streak of leather and musk that I very much appreciated. I guess if you market your perfume in such a way, "dirty leather" and musk are very much more archetypical notes you would want to employ. However, this part of the perfume was what I liked the most. Instead of just abstract powdery sweetness, the more 'dirty' notes gave it depth and variety that otherwise lacked a lot. Here, the perfume was probably the strongest.

But sadly, that phase only lasted for half an hour and Putain des Palaces went into a honey-esque direction afterwards. Where the sweetness at the beginning and for most of its lifetime was very generic syrupy sweet, for like an hour in between, I thought I'd have a jar of honey sitting next to me on my table. It still radiated strongly but here it was like I would imagine a honey-flavored lipstick to taste if you bite into it. Not terribly unpleasant but I preferred the previous streak much more.

And then, after about two hours total, the honey dissipated as well and Putain des Palaces went back to a very generic, sweet-powdery-lipsticky-you-have-smelled-that-before kind of fragrance. It felt distinctively loud and cheap here which... I don't know if it's deliberate or not. And then it just remained there for 8 more hours, which was too long for me. I'd have preferred for it to die down faster today but... erf, that's just me getting tired of it.

Overall, I feel there's underused potential in Putain des Palaces. The short while in which the leather and musk added depth to it was a pleasant experience as far as lipstick-sweet fragrances go in my nose but that was just too little for it to stand out. Its projection and longevity are great, its smell, for the most part, is pretty generic and distinctively not for me. The marketing here is much more provocative than the fragrance itself.

Sapienta

Oh, Promising name and notes. But what a dissapointment!
Chaotic cheap smelling perfume. It has everything in it.

spaceybailey

So in love with this one. The name has nothing to do with the fragrance. This is pure elegance. It has a vintage smell to it. Intense, soft and delicate. For the woman that knows what she wants, when, where, and how she wants it. The opening is much like KATE from the western film Tombstone. The makeup, to the way she dressed, the hair, always by her man, Doc Holliday. I get that vibe. But as it settles it's more like Josie, watch it if you haven't. (It's one of my faves) When she first lays eyes on Wyatt Earp, she asks, "who's that?" They tell her who he is, she then says "I WANT ONE." (that scene, omg!) This perfume defines both of these women. Like the ending scene when Wyatt goes to find her, tells her he will LOVE her the rest of his life. She then tells him "don't worry Wyatt, my family is RICH." Laughing she then asks, "what should we do first?" He says "what you wanted to do the first NIGHT we met, may I have this dance?" ... Yes (she replies) "Then, ROOM SERVICE!" (Wyatt says) And they danced in the snow. This perfume is OLD WEST in the fanciest way. A feminine, intense, warm, powdery (not baby powder) makeup type, lipstick, more violet than rose but not in a prominent way. The amber with orange is the cherry on top to this perfume. A night time cold weather perfume in my opinion. Smells so good. Don't let the name throw you off. This is beautiful. Makeup, western outlaws, lawmen, and room service. Smells like what you would smell like when kissing one of those sophisticated cowboys, cigars, whiskey, & pistols. A mix of both, your scent and his combined. I can't really explain it, it's truly a masterpiece. Has a hint of Canadian Tuxedo DNA to it. Just a tad. BISOUS

morphoevgenia

For such a scandalous name this fragrance is surprisingly well mannered. I cannot call it animalic, it has a bit greasy aspect to it, like walnuts stored in your pantry for cakes. It is sweet, powdery, violets, spicy. I was absolutely thrilled to get it, it is so beautiful! It has all the qualities I am looking for in a fragrance, loud enough but not off putting, spicy but not femme fatale, powdery but not boring. No sweaty armpits, baby wiper, powdered underwear or for what other scary things this perfume got called out.

AprilSea

I fancy perfumes smelling of makeup, lipstick, sex. I own a few, but this is the weakest and the less true to its name. It starts with a a strange, not welcoming smell of cumin and baby wipes. After a while (one hour or so, on my skin), it gets powdery and a bit slutty, because it had to, at last. I have Westwood's Boudoir, and it is the best slutty perfume one can wish to have. This one is a bit off putting, too much cold cream and too little passion. It is a cheap smell, no relation to Madame Claude's girls.
The palace is missing from this perfume, and it should have not.

Tshahb

Not horrible, but it's like Lipstick Rose with the amber warmth taken away and using cheaper ingredients, with a sprinkle of ginger. It's quite in line with other ELDO scents.

For me, it just immediately makes me wish it was Lipstick Rose, a far superior fragrance, although PdP is way cheaper.

bebaaa

incredibly pretty, maternal femininity (slight hint of baby wipes lol). powdery but not too old lady-esque. reminds me of a young princess Margaret

Esna

I could care less what the name means, this is divine and full of delicious contradictions. It’s smells like expensive baby lotion but for a beautiful ethereal adult. Baby-ish yet sultry at the same time. Like a woman with a strong character who’s secretly erotic but has an angelic baby face. I like this better than Divin'Enfant, which is also beautiful but has powder overdose. It stays beautiful and clean all day long. Not dated or old fashioned at all.

But as an afterthought about the name, if you have ever seen Madame Claude on Netflix, her beautiful minks, her glossy Porsche, the beautiful girls she had working for her, she never chose an ugly one at all and made sure they were all actually very classy and upscale. The part how she showed that extremely beautiful one how to clean herself properly to be on par to perfection, the aesthetic of them all being so gorgeous with amazing clothes and hair of that era.

SofiaTeddy

Unlike dusty stereotypes with a cosmetic effect, “Putain des Palaces” envelops the wearer in a voluptuous and ambiguous spiral, halfway between sin and innocence.

Lbs_scents

I really wanted to love this and sadly I do not.... I LOVE many of the ELDO fragrances (Spice must flow, Rien Intense Incense, You or Someone Like You, Frustration - all beautiful & full bottle worthy IMO) but this one is a no from me. I was hoping for high end courtesan vibes but that it is not.... The way the cumin wears on me smells of onion & hence BO - then the powdery notes added in I'm getting a sweaty armpit that has been wiped with a baby wipe. Sadly this is a very big no for me. Selling a sample if anyone is interested to try for themselves - may be different on different skin chemistry as with many niche perfumes.

jaynemansfield

Starts off INCREDIBLY harsh with a smell of baby wipes. That scent never disappears but fades enough that pleasant floral and amber notes make their way through. The baby wipe smell is at the forefront at all times, however. The harshness of the opening disappears very quickly, I didn’t find this to be unpleasant. I can’t say I dislike the fragrance, but I wouldn’t want to smell like baby wipes. If you do, boy do I have the scent for you!

morfnou

Beautiful scent, gives a nice lotion-y vibe, but it disappears on my skin in less than an hour

PerfumedParrot

Quite possibly my favourite in the range (I’m still going through them but this one stood out). I was drawn-in by the maternal and sentimental glow that that this was emitting. It reminded me of my grandmothers white-musk hugs with her woollen clothing and cold-cream face. I wasn’t sure if I was feminine/nurturing/womanly enough to pull this off myself. It’s the most typically feminine fragrance I wear, as it pushes my sweetness and powdery pink fragrance threshold (which is usually very unisex and standoffish). But I like it so much that considering buying this, as it softens me and gives the illusion that I’m kinder and more approachable than I actually am. This fragrance isn’t so much about the individual notes but more about how it makes you feel - it’s like a cherub has dusted me with a luxurious powder-puff after a deep soak in a marble bath and now I’m wearing fluffy clothing and smiling with the glow of human kindness.
Putain Des Palaces is a cheaper alternative to the luxuriously creamy-powdery-iris niche powerhouse that’s Boadicea The Victorious ‘Valiant’, which is divine but outrageously expensive.

Edit: I wore it again and although I now love it, it doesn’t last on me. By the time my 8 hours work shift has finished it’s gone. Can anyone recommend a beast-mode version of something similar?

cellardoor19

This little masterpiece with a provocative name encapsulates a dual concept, like the nature of a fragrance that is divided yet complementary.
Violet and leather predominate on the skin, opposing notes that intertwine in a dance of lack and completeness. The violet evokes a dusty lipstick, a powder floating in the air of an ancient boudoir. She is a femme d'autrefois, a courtesan from another era, a woman of class, as feminine and graceful as the outline in a Pre-Raphaelite painting. Her hands are candid and soft, and when you approach her, you are pervaded by delicacy and freshness.
Leather emerges later, but on me, it does not have the whiff of a dirty note, but rather a cool leather, that of a leather jacket or a newly purchased leather bag.
An unabashedly delicate scent, like the skin of a woman who has just washed and is wearing a leather jacket. An intimate scent like few, not only because of a faint sillage, but because it fully represents the very idea of intimacy: familiar, close, clean, warm. The smell of a woman's skin at any time of day or night, it will be up to your skin to decide when and where.
Putain Des Palaces is a romantic and dreamy scent, the aesthetics of a Sofia Coppola film, such as "Marie Antoinette," but even better "The Virgin Suicides": pinkish and violet hues.
It is that still moment in time when naiveté allows itself to be corrupted while retaining its sweetness and eternal freshness.

Hugo Montez

i'm a man and i find this very unisex and super sensual. delicate, soft, baby wipes, comforting... One of my favorites from the brand.

behemotha

Has that ELdO DNA which is always... rose. Without it, it could've been my cup of tea. Totally agree with @Neverapeoplepleaser.
Rose, powder, lipstick, and iris/violet. If I was over 60, I could see myself wearing it.

Beeboss

The moment I sprayed it on, I felt the perfume's name is very suitable. Baby wipes, sweaty musk, then powder and lipstick and a delicate rose. It's not for everyone and you definitely need a specific mood to wear it.
It's not something I would normally wear, but it has a creaminess that makes me smell myself all the time.

Aeiris81

I enjoy everything about this: the concept, the name, the bottle, the powder and musky leather accord and I absolutely love how the violet rounds it up to a feeling of nostalgic decadence. Complex and very beautiful, a must for powdery scents lovers.

Cherry_Darling

If you love powder and leather this is for you. I barely get any violets, it does conjure up scenes of a chicago style bodour powder room, where ladies in leather and latex walk in and out leaving a trail of 20s style powdery classics. A touch of sweaty musk adds to the vibe. I think this is unique for sure ultimately though the rubber for me is too much rubber I struggle with this note. Nice perfume otherwise! Great vibes.

Sasspergers

I adore this. Provocative and uninhibited, yet still chic. For me, it's like a secretary leaving a high-end, corporate office to go drinking with their friends in a burlesque club. There's a unisex appeal to it too. Would recommend.

dexilio

Dominant and sensual. Well-versed and assertive. Polarizing and memorable. Wear this and knock 'em off their feet.

Neverapeoplepleaser

Hmmmm I'm not sure. I love powder, violet is OK. I have a love hate relationship with rose and my skin seems to pull alot of rose out of fragrances.
Some days I enjoy this in moderation, if I'm not in the right mood, it can feel almost nauseating and suffocating. Another fragrance I have this relationship with is Penhaligons Hammam Bouquet. Stunning....but some days just.....hard no.
If you love powder, violet and rose I would say you'll probably love this.
Also.....awesome name. I can totally imagine the romantic notion of a an 18th century, powdered haired courtesan wearing this.

BettyBee

Nice scent. It reminds me of SJP's Lovely, especially on the drydown. Warm and musky on me. Don't think it's very dark or mysterious or femme fatal as part of the marketing write up would have it, if so it's a femme fatal without much bite! To me it's more fluffy. But each to their own!

ievaid

this putain des palaces sure knows how to make an entrance. first i get only baby wipes (or, to more sophisticated noses than mine, that powdery note that's reminiscent of grand classics such as shalimar). immediately after - something almost rotten-sweet, like overblown blossoms or overripe fruit, but only for a moment. it's brief enough to be only intriguing, not disgusting. then, violet and iris compound the powdery vintage cosmetic scent, and form a classic combination with leather, which you can distinctly smell - but only from up close. very suggestive, i enjoy its coyness. the amber and musk base cast a golden glow, especially on warm skin.

i wouldn't recommend blind-buying it, and it's not for those who cannot stand a hefty dose of powder or who want something that feels modern, light or refreshing. this perfume smells like a movie in black and white (definitely pre-hayes code). it's dated, yet coquettish; an aging diva that lives up to its name.

grafgr

PdP belongs to my favourite fragrance genre: pink fluffy cotton candy covering up something not so innocent. The others in this VIP club (ones that I've discovered so far) are Citizen Queen and Angel's Dust.

Mother Nurgle

It’s lovely, but longevity is 2 hours. Not FBW.

Lilah_lilah2023

Such a well balanced perfume. Powdery, musky, with strong iris and rose notes. Very feminine. It's got a movie-like vintage, seductive allure. I'd also like to mention how wonderful the company is for creating the sample kits to buy on their website: at a reasonable price you get to try some of their perfumes on your skin (which to me is essential before buying a full bottle). They send a cute little box with your chosen ones. Absolutely wonderful experience, I will soon purchase the full bottle of this.

dj71

I absolutely agree with QueenieIrenie that there is cumin in this scent, which I'm not a fan of. It's not as prominent as many other scents that use cumin, but I'd bet my life that there is some in this as well. It's such a distinct note that I always recognize it right away. If it weren't for that smell or whatever is making me THINK there is cumin in this, then I would love this scent, but my skin seems to really accentuate cumin notes.

Baltabarin

PUTAIN DES PALACES is as complex as a person whom you might judge poorly without knowing them, but then they reveal themselves as captivating and exquisite. The opening is sharp, violent, and animalistic, akin to a lash, bitter, and dark. However, as the minutes pass and one exercises patience, a delightful surprise awaits—the powdery and flowery notes gradually emerge on a sweet, round, and creamy backdrop created by tonka bean and sandalwood.

It's a mature fragrance with nostalgic nods to the past, yet it possesses a modern, sophisticated, and unexpected identity. It's mawkish in just the right way but certainly not innocuous. Perfect for those who desire attention from everyone but truly need no one.

niagara2

This is a lovely little powdery situation with a tiny bit of leather. It can be worn in any season and in any weather, for at home, indoors, or leisure, and is unoffensive and uncomplicated in these settings. I cannot detect anything overly provocative or animalic but this is not an office scent either. I'd say, lounging around with a book or a diary and smelling amazing, alluring, and vintage in a romantic way.

Angeldaisy

I squirted this today and had forgotten that it opens with a filthy note that isnt listed, but it is in the description "animal notes", which is more civetous cumin crotch than the listed "musk". Heavy Beats below describes it "sweaty balls". Indeed. This note is similar to the cumin a Rochas Femme and Theo Fennel Scent.
I find the drydown slightly sweet, a touch medicinal, powdery sueded violets and rose. If anything, it reminds me of TF violet blond. I prefer PdP.
Love it. Good fun. Balls and all.

HeavyBeatsUK

I thought I would love this because I love powdery fragrances with lipstick vibes but this…

I don’t know if my mind has become biased since learning what the name of this translates to (Temple of Whores) but 10 mins after spraying, this smells like sweaty balls and cum that has been wiped with baby wipes.

Very seedy.

I’ll let it settle and see if it improves. If not, I’ll have to scrub it.

Update: no scrubbing necessary - the sweaty bollocks and cum smell has gone. But I’d say anyone who wants a fragrance like this minus genitals and body fluid should go for Angel’s Dust.

tishwoodw

My fifth ELDO purchase. Performance is much better than most ELDO fragrances. Layered it with Une Amourette (love that they both have a similar theme)- and received lots of compliments. I feel very delicate and beautiful yet grown-up when I wear it.

Pieter Pad

The name and the backstory of PdP are to die for, but a little bit misleading. Don't get me wrong; I really like the strange opening, and the smell of cozy sunscreen on my skin, but it is nothing like the dirty devil I wish it was. I miss the vintage femininity to it and the sexiness. Maybe I was hoping to get something more like Boudoir from Vivienne Westwood. Oh, how I miss that Godess, that would linger on your skin en clothes forever. Unfortunaly this doesn't come close; sillage is average and the longevity is weak on me.

raesmells

Looking at the notes this should be right up my alley. Man it is not however. I love all things powdery, iris, lipsticky, etc. But there is something almost like cinnamon, guessing the ginger, in this that is just off putting and smells like old dusty potpourri. Luckily this is just a sample. It is a beast as far as longevity, if only my She Was an Anomaly lasted this long ! Hard pass. After the cinnamon blast here comes a smell SO much like that last bit of bourbon in a glass that was left out all night. That old alcohol/recycling center smell. Finally the drydown is the best, powdery and nice, but then that waft of old bourbon rises up.

bleuetfane

Starts a bit sour and strange – perhaps the ginger? – but after ten minutes or so it settles into a delicate, powdery smell, then, maybe after an hour, faint expensive soap. The flower notes are well blended and create a really beautiful, romantic air. I could see this scent working on anyone age-wise; romantic and airy on a younger girl and more mature and settled on someone older. I think it’s all day all year appropriate, fitting any occasion and temperature within its soft, feminine bubble. Lovely!

lanabroz

Old velvet sofa in a hotel lobby. There's a pleasant violet ambience sent in the air but the sofa can't hide the sweaty, dirty aroma peeking through - this is exactly what my mind present me when i smell this perfume.

There's something so sexy and seductive about this scent but repelling at the same time.
It's ok however i personally can't wear it, cause i find it too much of old school.

Longevity and projection average.
Try before you buy.

MacabreLemon

Waxy baby powder makeup. On some of my skin and paper tests I picked up on floral scents, but the predominant note is baby powder.

I felt like an inexperienced teenager trying to be sexy with cheap drugstore makeup and body spray when I wore this. Or a kid playing dress up with mom or grandma's dated, expired makeup. I get that for some people youth and naivete are sexy. I am not one of those people, though, so for me the name and description don't line up with the fragrance.

KöbiD

Right after spraying, the musky and powdery notes are a bit too strong for my liking. However, the more the drydown progresses, the better and more sophisticated the fragrance becomes. Around one hour after application, the powdery notes will have become softer while the violet note is clearly recognizable. Once fully dried down, Putain des Palaces leaves an elegant ambery powderiness on my clothes that lasts easily more than 12 hours and that fills a room with a cozy scent. I guess you should be a fan of powdery fragrances that lean into the overly synthetic territory to fully appreciate this fragrance.

QueenieIrenie

I previously reviewed this thinking this was more ladies in waiting than "whores of the palace" based on the sample I received from ELDO, but now I have the FB and I take it all back! Yes, this is very powdery, but this opens very dirty, sweaty, and animalic. Nothing demure here! It does dry down to cleaner baby powder but that sweatiness lingers. I now understand the name!
Edit to add that all things considered, I still enjoy this one, and I don't normally like these dirty/animalic scents, but the drydown is really enjoyable and satisfied my craving for a powdery fragrance.
Edit #2: I'm convinced there is cumin in the notes even though it's not specifically listed. Must be included in whatever "animal notes" are. Cumin and I do not get along -_-

risarii

I wore this when I met Dita Von Teese, and I think it was fitting.
It smells like how a glamorized Versailles might smell (not the apparent realistic smell of Versailles which was apparently just urine and other bodily fluids)— powdery, violets, old-world. Like a violet leather whip if one should exist.
A courtesan, perhaps La Divina Imperia Cognati or even Mitzah Bricard.

Great longevity and moderate silage

crushedmarigolds

100% baby wipes. powder powder powder

Gauxchujang

This was extremely powdery to me. Like if you pretended to snort baby powder like cocaine and you messed up and got a whole lungful of it. Mellows into something more palatable but still extremely powdery.

Dawn.Valerie

I really love powdery violet scents, but this is just sour on my skin. Really dissapointed.

smccmurphy

Powdery violet makeup scent. Pretty and great longevity- still smelled after swimming in chlorine.

Fenissa

It is the smell of the naked skin of a very high class lady of the night.
Clean, powdered nakedness.
I can neither confirm or deny how I know this, but it is sexy when worn with no clothes.

Diana252

Smells like an ashtray with a huge bunch of lilies in the background. I don’t know how everyone else gets something different, maybe it’s my ph. I had to wash it off to make it not nauseating.

Um... smells like someone's baby-powdered nethers. Makes sense for the name. Not what I want to smell like.

pancakespancakes

Aggressive ginger opening. Powdery violet goodness afterwards. This fragrance plays with your skin and mixes with your Ph. I could swear there is some raspberry in here that stays through the perfume’s duration and playfully kisses your skin during the entire olfactory experience.
It’s makeup. It’s very feminine. It’s a mask. It hides you. It’s a playful smirk. It’s sultry. It’s not aggressive as others might expect. It’s not “overt” sexuality. Femininity doesn’t usually imply overt aggressiveness, after all. Not to say we can’t be aggressive. This is trying to evoke the image of a Femme Fatale. An angelic smelling Femme Fatale.

asiarakk

Powdered warm spices and leather.
Stronger scent comparing to a lot of other scents from Eldo (basic line).

I do think name suits. It’s not make-upy scent. I don’t know why people think if it’s powdery = makeupy.

There is two sides, one is is delicate, powdery. Another one is heavy and “dirty” smelling.

Very antique. Boudoir. Something 18-19 century poutain’s would wear.

barwench

While the opening is powdery and softly floral, there's also a pungent mechanical and chemical smell as well as the slightest hint of citrus. It actually smells just like pure tea tree oil. I do not enjoy it so far, I will have to try layering it to see if I enjoy the way it balances my juicier floral fragrances.

LSAUG

This perfume reminds me of Anglomania which I already own. Powder, warm spices and leather. Here the powder comes from violet and Iris instead of rose and violet. And the warm spice is ginger instead of coriander and cardamom. There is a slight sweetness in both perfumes as well. Here it is from orange in Anglomania it is from vanilla. They are cousins, not sisters. PDP has something more of powder puffs, hoopskirts, bows, pearls and smells a bit daintier as well. Anglomania is this perfume slightly naughty cousin. The cousin born on the wrong side of the blankets. LOL. Anglomania I can see a man wearing if he enjoys powder, but PDP is all female and I really don't get the ad, she undresses for profit line selling this perfume, maybe in the years 1700 through the 1800's, not today. This perfume is a nice blast from the very, very distant past. Wearing it you can pretend you are living in France during the reign of Nepoleon. Maybe you are even a part of the court. Very formal, feminine, and vintage. I think Marie Antionette would have rocked this perfume. Although she was a bit of a bad one, wasn't she? Maybe PDP has more in common w/ her naughty cousin Anglomania than I first thought LOL. Anyway, this is a good one if you love vintage powdery perfumes.

Perpetual Collector

I got this today and I am finding it quite pretty but tame. Not sure what exactly was I expecting, but I think I thought that it will at least be a tad more scandalous. It's not. It's pretty, girly, feminine, purple, makes me think of jewels, bows, lace, powder puffs, super rosy cheeks, red lips, white powdered faces, big wigs... Oh wait, now I get why it is called Putain des Palaces!
Yes, it is true to its name, only in a different way that most people expect. It seems to me that most of you guys imagine that a "woman of certain character" could not possibly smell dainty and classy, but I don't see why the hell not!
To me, P d P is true to the name and the description of it, it would be perfect to wear on those "special occasions", and is far more romantic and sexy time appropriate than Boudoir could ever be. In fact, I think if these two could switch names, it would work out perfectly, as Boudoir is sex captured in a bottle!
Btw, this doesn't smell anything like Anglomania. I don't know about Angel's Dust, but now I want that too!

ingrid.superstar

A few notes in lieu of a full review:

- This reminds me strongly of one of the Alkemia perfume oils -- Madam X or possibly Kashish? (And my overall feeling about Alkemia is that their scents are not terribly well-blended. They have a kind of over-excited, homemade feel -- too many good ideas and not enough editing.)

- I mostly get a fruity, violet-and-leather scent. Lightly powdery. Though I don't really understand the make-up/boudoir associations.

- This might have cured me of my aversion to leather, which can smell like a stable. This is a supple, sueded kind of leather. Very clean.

- There is something playful about this perfume, but I am perhaps being swayed by the clever, funny name (which I also love).

Edit: smells like Alkemia La Belle Epoche! This is growing on me, and I like it a lot!

meganlamode

I'm just discovering my love for makeup-y, powdery scents, so I wanted to try Putain des Palaces - I honestly love the name, as well.

This has a jarring opening to me. There's powder, but there's also something else kind of sharp there, and I don't think it's just the alcohol. Is that supposed to be the leather note? Thankfully, whatever it is fades away within the first few minutes of wear and some beautiful roses and violets mix with the powder. A small hint of ginger appears in the background, too. With even more of a dry down, a sweet amber also comes forth. I don't get any of the "offensive" notes, like cumin or sweat, that others have mentioned. Despite enjoying the scent, I also don't understand the overtly sexual response of some commenters below. I appreciate the story behind the fragrance as told by the brand, but to me, it's just that - a story. In reality, Putain des Palaces is extremely feminine, but doesn't need to be reserved for nights out only. She expects that she will accompany you in the daytime, too.

Bettybotox

Very powdery. French boudoir circa 1700s for sure. If I were a putain de palaces back in those days, this is undoubtedly what I would smell like. Powdered wigs and porcelain skin were very much in vogue - if you could afford them.
I expect putain de rue would have been much less polite, but maybe that's part of the appeal. This gal is wealthy and does not smell dirty or unwashed. If I were to roleplay as a French Renaissance countess in my boudoir, this would be the scent I'd reach for. There is something about it that compliments the natural aroma of my skin and that is seductively intimate. I think if a man should smell a woman's skin while she's wearing this, he will never forget her and that is all that matters. It is for a clean, naked body. What it smells like after he has explored every crevasse is a completely different thing. That's where le putain de rue comes into play.
Performance is moderate and I get about 5 hours before it's a skin scent which still works perfectly for the boudoir.

Ground hound

A very quiet "putain" :) musk, powder, ginger....but under a glass. The scent to me is very translucent, not remarkable and barely noticeable.

lulu1979

The description of this scent ''she dresses for seduction and undresses for profit'' got me so excited. I was expecting something so ravishing and carnal that I'd probably have to be careful wearing it in public in case I caused a sweat-storm of lust within a 20m radius.
Alas, no. The opening was juicy, a burst of lustful florals, gingery amber and tangerine... but then it quite quickly dried down to powdery violet, all alone... I sniffed and sniffed to find the lust again but it had drifted away and left without leaving a tip. smelt more like penhaligon's artimesia after that, but artimesia lasts longer.
Longevity was only 2-3hrs.

Anamandy

If this is the smell of a prostitute, then she must be pretty high end. And if this is the smell of sex, then it's not very enthusiastic. All the hype around this fragrance had me afraid to even try it. I imagined it to be so dirty, like a 3-day sex marathon with no showers in between, that it would be downright repulsive. Actually, I'm finding it anything but. Maybe my skin just loves this fragrance because on me it's a lightly spicy powdery violet cloud of a perfume with a little bit of leather tossed in. Or it could be that the "dirty" notes just don't show up on my skin. Whatever the case, I like it a lot. What has me hesitant on a purchase is that it reminds me very much of Citizen Queen, though this is much more floral. I just happen to like the heavier powder and leather notes in C.Queen. Still, this does smell really good, so that might be subject to change with a few more wearings from this surprise decant that a lovely, more daring friend sent me. Thanks churinl! 😘

meama

when the overflow of kisses has almost effaced the iridescent finery of these prepared lips and spread their shimmer right down to the neck, the smell of a warm breast rises. The leathery and amber notes corrupt the cosmetic accord to reveal what hides under the lipstick, the rice powder and the blush. Bare skin. All naked. With its sweet hints of cumin.

Still the best cosmetic musk in perfumery

LauraAD

True Lust but with added warm spicy skank. You don't need both, and personally I prefer this as I loved True Lust but wanted it to be dirtier. It's orangey, ginger, lily of the valley animalic musk on me, post-sex skin, and I really really love it.

Houdini4

This has a mad opening to me. I smell a discrete rose accord which is either tacky or the most accurate and refined rose I've ever smelled, I genuinely don't know which? lol.
However, that's all irrelevant because the accord is oddly very fleeting and Putain is not about roses it's a powdery, musky fragrance with a sort of artistic bite, preventing it from being a completely friendly, cute affair. I wouldn't say it's animalic or anything overt but there's an undercurrent of something heading in that direction. It possesses that creative punky spark Etat used to have, but has been lost somewhat in recent years. I get an overarching femininity to it and that was set to be the final decider for me (not that I don't own any femme perfumes, of course I do) until the deep drydown of purely endulgent, beautiful musks, close to the skin a heavenly blend of ambrette softness and pink powdery tones.
I mean, sure there's loads of fragrances which have great base notes where you might not necessarily get on with the rest, and I can't go around buying perfumes to enjoy after 8 hours, not that I didn't enjoy the start of this mind you. I actually loved the muskiness SO much that I would consider getting this one.

izzylovsu

smells IDENTICAL to American cream by Lush

reedkat_

I'm having such a hard time putting into words how I feel about this perfume. There are so many gorgeous facets to it, from the powder up top to the leather and musk... this is not an everyday scent, but one you pull out for a special occasion. If you do wear this as your everyday scent, you are far too powerful and I will never mess with you. So alluring. Not your mom's floral perfume!

Cymbopogon

I seriously love this one great fragrance and its unforgettable name 😊

eveangeline potts

Gentle seductive carnal smell , just wafts every now and then like the smell after a lover , I just want to smell more its , a hint , does not project only when someone comes close ...in love with this, have worn it every day since purchase.
A mystery never quite unravelled. Smells like skin thats been kissed, many times.

wednesday272

Powdery light scent, didn’t love it

tilapia_johnson

On my skin I get fresh powder, a touch of sweet, cosmetic violet, then something animalic, less like leather and more like oud (not heavy, but present). A likable sweet-spiced amber is forward as in most-all ELDO fragrances, which in this case makes Putain feel common. I was in the mood for loud chalky pastel violet candy, but got a pleasant if not boring modern floral. Definitely could see this being the wildest, sexiest thing in the late aughts, worn by a woman in her late twenties dressed in her edgiest boho, uptown-downtown look, with Pamela Love jewelry and a floppy, rawhide bag.

esterelmer

its smells alright, a generic powdery violent smell. Guerlain did it better

arefuthescroob

The powdery violet is gorgeous!!

Dina France

It's so sexy! Absolutely feminine! Perfect for an intimate date when you know you'll be kissing all the time because 1 hour later there is almost no sillage. Yet it is so addictive that he'll be kissing your neck again and again!
Powdery iris and violet, not old-lady style, with a well balanced musky amber base. No rose, no leather, no mandarin.

DinaFrance (perfume reviews on youtube)

Mishitsu

now this is an extremely fun fragrance, from the name, the story and the composition. Very energetic, sassy, daring, bold, young and vibrant its not too elegant or fragile what one could expect from floral/powders. Of I was a girl, this would be my to go fragrance, but hey its never too late

jackboardy

Putain des Palaces is a special reserve, once in awhile kinda scent for me. About once a month, I get a strong urge to wear this perfume - but never any other times. It doesn’t particularly suit my day-to-day style, and can occasionally be a little overwhelming to just sniff the bottle.
I have a 10ml decant that I’ve been slowly chipping away at for about 2 years now, and I’ve only got a tiny bit left. I will be cherishing the last drops for when I get the desire to smell like Putain des Palaces again - and when I do, know that it will be worn with deep satisfaction. This perfume lives up to the name; I’ll just put it that way.

Saffron

SO French ho fo sho!
Have you ever slipped out of a luxury hotel room, in the civil twilight, leaving your secret paramour asleep in the satin sheets?
A quick powder, a change of delicate lace panties and brushing off the cocktail dress from the night before.
Slipping on your Louboutin - Kate heels and quickly collecting the ample check for your evening transactions, from atop his valise and placing it into your Italian pearl embroidered clutch.
You gracefully hasten down the large marble staircase holding the brass banister with your left hand and sliding your large Chanel sunglasses on with your right as you walk out of the hotel doors (sleepy doorman bowing slightly as he opens them for you) as if they are the doors of your own palace, end gracefully bending into the driver seat of your British racing green Jaguar with tan butter leather seats. You just smile to yourself, recalling the nights steamy romance, before starting the engine and driving off into the coming day with a Bryan Ferry classic playing on your stereo?
….. Yes. Errr. Neither have I.
But, if I had, this is what I would smell like.
As somebody else (I wish I could remember who) so poetically put it
“French ho fo sho”.
La putain la reine! Love the fantasy

So I own a bottle of this crazy beast. I remember when this perfume just came out and it was such an intriguing thing... This name of the perfume... who does this??? Well, ELdO does and I am a sucker for these names. It definitely grabs attention. It was kind of mini-revolution this brand, this scent, this name of perfume.
The ingredients don't seem so complex at first glance - a powdery floral maybe a bit animalic scent... well it seems like that until you try it. This perfume is so complex, so difficult to understand, and sometimes even wearing it is a challenge. I need a certain mood to be able to pull this off. And to me, this is a naked body perfume. I would never wear this on my clothing. To me, it's sexy, cozy, and animalic, a bit sweet and a bit leathery scent. Definitely plays with your own skin scent and turns very unique depending on the person who is wearing it.
To me it is a night scent, a scent when you stay home and wear almost nothing. This is a perfect perfume to accompany the most luxurious lingerie you own. An animalic sensual feminine touch.
I love the scent so much, but I hate how difficult it is for me to wear it. Well I guess this bottle will last me an eternity because I am still keeping this beauty for these moments when I feel like it.

maddy.cucu

Upon the first few minutes of testing this fragrance, I was mildly disappointed. I love my powdery scents and I love my violets, but I was getting more leather than I wanted. It was okay. But then the fragrance plays tricks on you. One moment you’re getting the sweet floral rose violets and then the next you’re getting a powdery leather almost smokey. This isn’t a screamer but projects juuuuust enough to spark the attention and curiosity of someone, the way a putain des palaces would! Subtly sensual yet lowly? I can’t stop wearing this. This has become strangely addicting and comforting.

I’m really glad I have a full bottle but I don’t think this is full bottle worthy for most. I would say a decant is probably enough to test out.

annema

Slightly dirty powdery and violet perfume. Nothing as extreme and original as the name could tell you to be honest. To me it smells a bit like vintage makeup up from the 90's. It's quite wearable but it fits a more refined environment in my opinion. It's very "lady-like" without smelling like an old lady perfume. It's really a crowd-pleaser when you don't overspray. Men like this on a woman from my experience. You'll get compliments. Maybe hence the name ...

dogmeat

I love Etat Libre d'Orange as a brand and I think this is one of their quintessential scents...a fun, kinky name and a provocative scent profile. Putain des Palaces is an elegant, powdery, leathery musk. I think the ginger gives this a rough, unexpected edge. I don't think this smells sweaty or like body odor, but I do think this smells like someone instead of a perfume, if that makes sense. It reminds me of warm skin. I love this...simple and a little sultry. I find it easy to wear and think it works in pretty much any situation. Gorgeous stuff.

ponderbread

Marlou Poudextrase is what Putain Des Palaces is pretending to be.

TatianaChoco

The beginning is powderly musky animalic - a sweat hot body, very sexy - I fully understand the name of the perfume. Powder stays and violets appear. I bought it during the summer, but it isn't suitable for hot weather. I use it at home when I go to bed. I will wear it out later, during the autumn.

It is 23 degrees in Europe, I have tried it. It works well for middle temperatures, too. I love it.

violeteme

Love love love! Despite the title, it is a quite an elegant perfume. What's not to be elegant about this? Violets, powder and leather are so harmonious together that they create a blend of their own, none standing out too much. It is not chocking powdery, it is not that suffocating glue-like leather, it is not proud and loud cosmetic violet. This scent is indescribable, dim and intimate. It seems so blurred and hazy, softly hugging the skin and doesn't smell like an actual perfume. It is suggestive, but restrained so well that you actually feel the mystery of romance, it's not like full on boudoir in your face. To me this is a lot similar to the discontinued Love, Chloe EDP. I want a bottle! +

Vesperexa

I'm so torn on this one. I've gone through a sample of this, and every time I wore it I loved it and thought the performance was great, but I only have an opportunity to wear this like 5 times a year. It's just so fluffy and hyperfeminine, I feel like I have to wear a dress or it would be weird. It doesn't go with my clothes. It would probably be perfect naked.

pinkRocket81

Really just a dirtier, skanky-er version of Manhattan by Bond No.7, which to me is the stuff of the ever rotating cycle of gourmand scents, & smells like a mere Fig Newton.
Other than that - it’s all armpits and booze. Cumin leads the way, as this is a very animalic scent and is definitely the top note here. I like cumin a lot as a perfume note, but this is almost veering on an accord….

clairesque

I could have sworn there was iris in this - It smells like a dirty version of Guerlain Insolence with iris added in.

frusia

It opens up with a lot of lovely powder and makeup scent. I understand why people struggle to describe it, on one hand it's a kind of familiar scent - like a memory you didn't realise you had. But there's also a character to it. And something comforting and light hearted that makes you smile.

If this is a "putain", she's fun. She has a joyful spirit and she laughs a lot. And she knows how to be a good friend too. I like her.

kmyechan

Do you remember those little blue, pink and purple beads that smelled of powder and laundry detergent, and that used to be stored with clothes to ward off mites and such? My grandmother had these in all of her closets.
On the opening, this smells EXACTLY like those little beads. It's a very soft, sweet nostalgic scent to me. Super powdery and clean smelling.

As it dries, the sweeteness dies down but I get zero skank out of this fragrance. It smells of vintage powder and violets - very similar, in fact, to the signature scent of Guerlain makeup (Meteorites, anyone?). No leather or musk or animalic anything detectable on me.
It's definitely pleasant, but mostly it just smells clean and not super interesting to me.

SalamanderBanjo

It took me a bit to figure out what it smells like to me but I knew I loved it immediately. To me it smells like opening a fresh box of pampers diapers. Bought it while I was pregnant and still love it.

Aveline

I chronically run cold, so I decided to re-test this today before my workout. Halfway through my warm-up and...I finally got some skank. It's subtle though, and you really have to stick your nose in it; it doesn't leave a trail. I would describe it maybe as cumin roasting in the oven. It pulsates. I understand the whole connotation now. It's like the worn underwear of a lady who has powdered herself. This is quite fun to me and not at all overwhelming, however I still find it a bit violet heavy and sharp to be to my taste. Call me crazy but now I think this is a warmer weather scent.

muzzbait

I'm always on the lookout for violet scents and how different perfumers make use of this wonderful note.
I totally TOTALLY love what this perfume smells like, though personally, I could never ever wear this. It's just too soft, too safe and too pleasant.
It is a beautiful scent, it ticks all the boxes, it doesn't come across as powdery (well, not to a distracting extent, at least), but it lacks the funk.
I'd give this to my wife to wear and be happy if she did.
It's BEAUTIFUL and STUNNING, but not something I could wear. Now, to convince my wife to wear it!

mutmiu

The softer little sister of Citizen Queen, except the opening which is spicy by the ginger. Then the drydown is sweet, creamy-powdery, a little bit vanillic, similar to CQ. It is not surprising, the two perfumes have many common notes: rose, iris, musk, leather and amber. The name is ironic, as someone wrote it already, this is not a vulgar or animalic fragrance at all. Sweet, musky and mild.

FuNuFFu

I wouldn't call this sexy, but it is very sweet and nice in a way that doesn't come off as too boring. The violet is super heavy as are the powdery notes.

Wendy_Gogh

I bought nine samplers. I was disappointed with 4, surprised by 2, still debating on one, but Putain De Palaces is the only one I would say I outright hate. Not because the smell was offensive, on the contrary: it barely smelled like anything. So much so that I thought I was picking up the carrier fluid and that was it. How awful. I did not like Spice Must Flow at all, but it very much had a scent (a powerful one at that) for anyone who would enjoy it. Finally, after several hours, I revisited the place I sprayed it. I could smell the very green scent of the violet...but that's it. Very uncomplicated, very tame, hardly floral, barely there.
Waste of money.

kalhie

The powdery notes are way too strong in this one, Luke. I ordered a sample of this expecting something completely different based on the notes and the concept of this fragrance, but it's powdery, violet and amber and I can hardly smell something else (but I am not an expert, so take this with a grain of salt). I was expecting something way sexier than this baby powder. It's a no for me, but if you like powdery notes you should definitely try it.

AubreeRichelle

I was so excited to try this, but OMG so disappointed! That opening is punishing to get through, so harsh and metallic almost. It pretty quickly starts to settle into a powdery, almost animalistic scent. On dry down it is so strange and not sexy to me at all, like a baby powder mixed with leather. This also has no sweetness and could definitely border Unisex.

LeonieB

On me this opens very like le Labo rose 31 - a big puff of cumin powder. Too much curry to be sexy! Too late it settles down to a vaguely creamy rose which stays resolutely demure. Not what I was expecting from the attention grabbing name.

Aveline

I'm a fan of powder notes, and not offended by smelling like baby powder, but the powder in Putain des Palaces is different. It's how I imagine more old fashioned vanity powders were scented, before Goldbond and the like took over. It reminds me a bit of Instant Magic, with some non-headache inducing violet. Not as makeup-like for me as Dangerous Complicity, surprisingly. I don't find it dirty smelling at all, this musk is on the clean side, save for maybe some rose that my nose reads as a touch earthy. The leather takes a little bit to come out, but once it finally does it is very polite and mild. Lady's leather, like some soft leather gloves that have been stuffed in a purse with cosmetics. I really tried to detect some skankiness, but couldn't get any. I was hoping for something quirkier, this is nice but doesn't feel like me really. Longevity is probably better than average and while you won't leave a major trail, this is not a light arm sniffer. I got a cute little sampler from the ELdO website with free US shipping and found it a nice way to try the brand.

cortadohalo

Fits nicely within the 'makeup' perfume genre but lacks that waxy lipstick accord (either good or bad depending on your view). Starts off powdery with a light "cumin" note-- I'm nearly certain its actually the leather since I've noticed leather can sometimes veer more Holstein than Hermes; it provides a bit of warmth, raunch, and intrigue-- taking it out of office-safe territory for me. I'd instead reserve it for sultry evenings at a dimly lit bar. I will say this is aptly named. I totally get the reference to 'an escort who just finished her work' that someone else said, but I'm envisioning a Victorian lady of the night as the most appropriate "hotel whore" for this scent -- but don't get me wrong, it's not so old fashioned that it would smell out of place on a modern woman. As this wears its cumin-y leather edge wears off, settling into a completely proper violet-rose powder cloud, no skank; you'd never know what she was up to 4 hours ago.

Bubbles1964

A rare case where I can smell almost all of the listed notes (all except for Lily of the valley). First and foremost this a a fresh powder scent with no skank. Putain des Palaces also smells like a high end cosmetic bag.

I think Putain des Palaces is a classic French violet and clean musk perfume. If you are afraid of violet and powder, this is the one to try. Soft enough that after the first hour it becomes a personal scent….as long as you don’t go heavy on the trigger. I sprayed once on my wrist and once in my décolleté, and I experienced no baby wipes or animalic smell.

As usual, everyone’s chemistry is different (even changing with the seasons) so testing is a must. I recommend not going off anyone’s review as you can read, Putain des Palaces is polarizing.

stephania.luiza

I really like the powdery vibes, is perfect for whose like powdery smell, but the longevity was soooo bad that is no worthy the price =(

Enfant du monde

Putain des Palaces has been my signature for a few years now, and I always get compliments. Powdery, just a bit dirty and very seductive leather fragrance. I usually hate violet scents (they smell like old candies on my skin), but the violet here is different. It is slightly powdery, slightly sweet, and very sexy. I love old-fashioned fragrances, and this one is a hit! It lasts all day—pure love.

AyyHeyy

I'm going through lots of ELDO samples to see what I like. This one is powdery, floral and a little spicy with a subtle sourness, probably the leather. It feels feminine and personal. I wouldn't call it a clean powder. In other words- I see what they're doing here. This is not a boring fragrance to me. Of all of the ELDO samples I've tried, this was my first FB.

The others that are FBW: Remarkable People, La Fin Du Monde, Hermann, She Was An Anomaly

blkleather_redlace

All I can say is, if this is what you smell like after sex, you're not doing it right. Incredibly disappointing and boring. Animalic? No. Violets and a cedar-like wood note. No leather whatsoever. The fakeout "animalic" note is coming from the pissy cedar, and this cedar isn't even much like that. It's rather polite. Please tell me where all the fumes with real or synthetic castoreum are. Tell me where to find the perfumes that smell like my underwear after a tryst with my secret lover mixes all our scents together. Perfumers are mostly pearl-clutchers these days. Then again, back in the days when ladies were clutching pearls, they still had animalic perfumes.

This does not remotely resemble Shalimar at any concentration. No warmth, no citrus, no amber. A violet bomb.

Edit: I experienced something interesting with this perfume after revisiting it today...for the first 15 minutes. One of the topnotes (some say it is ginger, but to me it smells a bit like cumin) did indeed smell like the contents of an attractive man's underwear, but only very briefly, and then the fume settles into powdery, overwhelming violets. I'd appreciate it if it stayed like the opening. I wonder if that note will re-emerge on drydown. I almost feel that to appreciate this scent and not be overwhelmed by the violet I would have to spray it on my underwear.

Astra.not

This perfume does things to me. It is definitely about doing things. It is not about being seduced but being in the mood to seduce.

It is warm and cozy thanks to powdery notes but it is definitely breezy enough to be feminine and provocative. Unique combo of warmth and freshness that is not plastic, didn’t really encounter something like this before. It does somehow smell like makeup but not like a cupboard full of old make up a lot of powdery perfumes are guilty for (looking at you Frederik Malle Lipstick Rose). It is truly unique and intoxicating. I am surprised how ELDO managed to make it not smothering, opposite actually. You can’t stop smelling it. The sillage is ok, it is moderate but i agree that it is alright this way. You really just want to keep it to yourself and one, maaaybe two very close people

A total must for a lover of warm powdery perfumes. It is a true gem.

cjoudas

Without knowing exactly when or how it's happened, I have entered the powdery musk phase of my life, and you know what? It's nice here: clean, classic, spicy and appropriate year-round, day or night.
Putain des palaces is one in a LONG line of powdery musks I've enjoyed over the past few months. Honestly I can't say it's set itself apart in any significant way, but I do like it a lot. To my nose it's a bit chalky-sweet like necco wafers, a bit spicy, and seems to work with my skin really well.
I guess I respect ELDO for their marketing strategies, but I don't find anything about pdp particularly decisive, provocative or indecent. To the contrary, I find it pleasant and uncontroversial- a great everyday scent.
Idk if it's unique enough for full size (I just bought a bottle of The Musc by Essential Parfum, which is very similar), but if I got a good deal is consider it.

Lalouve<3

ooh.... this perfume needs to be aired (sprayed a couple of times) and left for a while at peace before trying it again after spraying it for the first time...*What I picked when I first sprayed it was -oh no this is not a good powdery perfume, this was a failed blind buy*but now...oh now... this smells like a soft powdery edition of infusion d'iris absolue - on me, I pick up this soft delicate almondy-mahleb note (which is my favourite almond aspect I can have in a perfume) mixed with an equally soft delicate powder *I love this! <3

*By the way I am testing this in night summer weather with the fan on to help the perfume project around me as I am writing this review - so dreamy!!!

*I feel this would be a better suited perfume for winter, autumn and possibly spring (when it is a chillier spring weather anyway) as most powdery perfumes tend to unfold better when it is colder and more windy

Wow, this perfume is intoxicating!!!

I bought a bunch of different samples and was intrigued by this one. I normally gravitate towards more unisex/woodsy/spicier fragrances, so the powdery notes in this perfume intimidated me. But I loved the name and the concept behind this so I was eager to try it.

And I’m so glad I did! When I initially smelled this out of the bottle it smelled like potpourri, so I was definitely reluctant to try lol. But the way this settles on my skin is heavenly!!! It’s powdery, floral, and sweet without being too intense. Then there’s the subtle musk that lingers in the background and completely elevates it. The perfume doesn’t really travel far but I don’t necessarily mind…it melts into my skin so beautifully and is intimate.

This perfume makes me feel so feminine…coy, graceful, and dainty but secretly naughty and deeply sensuous. It’s like your own dirty secret that you share only with your lover. Someone mentioned below that it smells like an escort after she’s “finished her work” and I couldn’t agree more.

Also I love the name! I think it captures the essence of this perfume, at least. Coy and seductive. Obsessed!!

Skinterpreter

I find this perfume to be a beautiful powdery creation, a must have for a hardcore fan and collector of powdery perfumes.
The rice powder note is the most prominent to my nose, together with iris and some light, sugary sweetness. Behind the powder, there is also something nice and creamy. It's very delightful, sensual, pleasure for senses. Also, the fragrance opens with some citrus element and raspberry is listed among the notes on the official ELdO website, too.
I would say that this scent shares some similarity with Love by Chloe, probably because of the rice powder note, which is pretty significant there.
The longevity is very good, sillage is decent. After couple of hours, the fragrance gently melts into the skin and feels very soft and tender.
All of the stated above makes Putain des Palaces a precious item in my collection. :) I love it.

Must I compare every powdery fragrance with Shalimar?

Yes, of course.

Well, on the first spritz of Putain des Palaces all I got was Shalimar. You know, some citrus, some flowers, some amber, lots of powder.

So I decided to spray Shalimar on one wrist and PdP on the other. And then I could tell some key differences.

Shalimar is strong and loud. It opens with a blast of citrus that attacks your nose. PdP, despite the name, is quite timid. It stays close to your skin, the citrus note is delicate and shy, and the powdery notes are the first ones to reach you.

Then, while Shalimar is still on its citrus joyride, PdP moves on to a tender violet and a very soft ginger note. The addition of ginger makes the perfume less sweet and more complex than the classic powdery, candied violet we usually get.

There’s this element to ELdO perfumes I’ve tried: they smell like skin. The fragrance mingles with your chemistry and leaves you with a new variation, a new take on your natural scent.

It’s very likely anyone who loves Shalimar will also enjoy Putain des Palaces. However, since it’s so similar to Shalimar’s powdery dry down, I don’t see the point of adding a whole new bottle to my collection. My tiny PdP sample will suffice.

MarchHare

I absolutely adore this perfume, but then again, I love powder. You know that line in "Mean Girls" where Janis tells Cady that she smells like a baby prostitute? Yeah, that's what this is. It's that nostalgic baby powder scent, but debased a bit.

The violet picks up the powder, the ginger adds to the metallic tinge of those notes, the lily of the valley ties them back to the orange, which melts into the rose. Then the musk, leather, and amber show up and in the dry down, you only get the base notes and powdery notes. It's one of those perfumes that I can't stop sniffing throughout the day when I wear it.

It isn't for everybody, and it isn't a signature scent, in my opinion. However, if you're a person who likes powdery notes, this is a God send.

Fati.km

It's all about baby powder and cumin sooooo disappointed 😞

Citywolfie

Instantly reminds me of girls' unwashed hair, specifically a memory during my childhood, playing with girls with plaited hair and they smelled like this.
So yes there’s an underling funk in here only discerning noses will pick up but overall very pleasant and fem.

Clairey15

A beautiful sweet violet. The leather really grounds this fragrance and makes it feel classic and expensive. I unfortunately don't get much of the cumin but I hope it comes out more in the summertime. I'm currently wearing ELDO'S Rien and Putain des Palaces is on my coat still from Thursday. The two blend together really nicely as their DNA is fairly similar and the Rein further grounds this decidedly sweet and feminine fragrance.

As for the name, it does make sense that this would be the kind of fragrance you wear when you've picked up your clothes from the night before off your lover's floor before going out for brunch and beers with the girls. However you can also wear this when you're at bookclub, a botanical garden, or at the cinema. For both the trainwreck and the mom friend.

chromatica

Leather and ginger in the pyramid, really? All I got was a delicate, beautiful powder that really contrasted with the name. A very clever contrast, actually, since there's nothing mortal and bodily here. Instead, it's a cover-up one would use to hide the blush and the sweat of excitement.

I couldn't wear it though - it was almost an exact copy of the deodorant I used at that time! At first I couldn't figure out why had the smell seemed so familiar, but then I stuck my nose into the pink Nivea on the shelf and yep, that was it. Gave my Putain away to a friend and she loved it a lot. And I learnt my lesson of picking up neutral deodorants.

WOW
I have an advice with this perfume; don’t stay on the first impression. I drastically changed my opinion about this perfume on the second wear, I love it now! And from the reviews below, I am not the only one.
Wear this when you are all dressed up only, cute make up and everything..
This perfume makes me feel like a delicate yet secretly naughty woman, with a polished appearance and a powdered face, In an addictive way..it feels like you are walking through puff stuff cloud all along.
My husband complimented me on it every time I wore it for the moment, He likes everything that smells and tastes expensive 🙃 😉
Ps: unpopular opinion; I love the name!
People in this world are so stuck up I swear..
If someone ask me about my fragrance I’ll just laugh seeing their face, because I’m young and wild, sorry Karen.

churinl

I am one who does get the funk vibe in this otherwise pretty, powdery, girly scent. I actually don't mind it and find that it takes it out of the mainstream just enough to be different, but not so much that it should scare off those who prefer to not make a statement. I think ELDO uses irony quite often when naming their creations, and if I was one who didn't pick up on the rather "unwashed" smell, then I think this would be a prime example. If you'll excuse me for saying so, the smell reminds me not of a very high class "escort" sitting in a hotel bar, but rather like the smell of said escort once she has completed her work.
It's taken me a while to figure this out and let it grow on me. It's not my favorite ELDO, but it has it's place (and time) in my wardrobe!

EDIT - OOOPS! Just realized that I reviewed this a little more than a year ago - sorry for that! The reviews are basically the same, though I feel more confident in my impressions as I've gotten to know this better.

joshuaerlinger

I love violets in all ways, and I'll feel comfortable wearing this. Showcasing the violet here is as if there was no challenge. The fragrance has a richness to those powdery notes that isn't cloying, somehow.

Anodea.O

My cat smells just like the animalic note in this... uncanny

lantpls

this is a delightfully dainty fragrance -- it's super soft and light and almost grandma-esque (cause of the dominating powder note. i can never catch the notes people say that are in perfumes cause my nose just doesn't work like that but the powder in this is strong and impossible to miss) but in the best way. i think the best way to describe it is comforting, i really like it! the name is fun too literally if a perfume has a funny name i will buy it no questions asked

(edit: i smelled this again after almost six months and it overwhelmingly smells like the room spray from brandy melville which is incredibly specific and could be considered somewhat offensive to this very nice perfume but it's all i could think of and i can't let myself forget about this connection i made)

LovelyLifestyle

A powdery hot mess.

This fragrance doesn't really have any direction.
It's powdery, but it's got a leathery undertone. There's also some florals.

I do admire niche brands who branch out from commercial, produced to be pleasant to the masses type fragrances.
But they went waaaaaay too far.
Someone had a few too many when they put this together.

aczwy

baby powder and cumin....not at all to my tastes

Celestya

Perfect for fall and winter with the notes of roses, leather and violet. Powdery, this perfume is elegant, more for a mature woman. A scent of makeup, a lipstick. Not so sexy, do not believe the name "putain"...
8/10 I like powdery perfume!
In this brand, the ranking: Putain des Palaces (Fall and winter) = She was an anomaly (all seasons) > Like this (for fall) = Yes I do (for spring)

perfumenoob

straight up baby powder

Pamster

Sweet powder, violets and vanilla. Lovely and ironically named.

patricia.w.lancaster

Hotel whore? No,but pleasantly womanly with a small touch of B.O.

QueenieIrenie

Pleasant, powdery fragrance. Nothing scandalous or skanky here. It's actually rather sophisticated. More "ladies in waiting" than "sluts of the palace." It's a bit too powdery for my taste but I can imagine that someone who loves powdery fragrances would enjoy this.

GabrielleeeeeW

This is more Marie Antoinette than it is Madame Du Berry.

It's an inoffensive baby powder scent with some floral notes and a bit of the ginger which goes away during the drydown. Definitely not a scandalous or skanky fragrance at all. Nothing about it is reminiscent of sex, and when I asked my husband if he got that vibe, he laughed. I can see a fancy, highborn French woman in her boudoir powdering her face and hair when I smell this. She's not dirty or sweaty from being a working girl, it's more like she's just had a bath because it's more fresh. Maybe it's me but I've never found powdery scents sexy. It is more old world and maybe a bit different in today's lineup of very sweet fruitchoulis. I do like it and it projected and lasted nicely. I feel like it's a good buy if you really enjoy powdery scents.

felixyz

Very powdery but I also get a prominent cumin/BO note as others have mentioned, although it's not off-putting to me. I don't get any citrus in the opening. There's also a nice 'new car' plastic/leather note which prevents the violet and sandalwood from becoming too cloying.

LaContessina

To me it's one of the most wearable frags is the ELDO line.
Of course, you have to love violets -powdery ones- because this is violets and face powder all the way.
It makes me smile as it was marketed as a dangerous seductive sex-worker (Putain in French) of the past... and i also loved (and laughed at) the hilarious and comic image that was printed in the box in the first edition (there is one image advert above), it was alluring and misleading but funny enough. Now outer packaging is all the same for all ELDO frags... at the beginning they all had funny pictures (remember Fat Electrician?) They have benn removed.

Putain des Palaces indeed smells exactly how ladies used to smell 3 centuries ago (as far as we know, and only the ones who could afford it): clean violets. Nothing deep obscure or seductive as we can refer nowadays.

It's a nice, clean, powdery and inoffensive frag, that can be worn in many occasions.
Granted, it can remind a grandma style of perfume. Not very modern.

I think they named it like that just for mockery.

Norgirl

This one has taken me by suprise. i have read the review so many times , heard about it. added it and taken it of my want list so so many times. Finaly i got it in a swapp craing powdery makeup kind of scent . And this fits the bill perfectly.
Now i truly dont know why i was affraid of this .. reviews and skin cemestry can be so different ,and offcourse what your after in the moment. To me this one is a beauty. (Top note seems off ) Dry down on this is to die for . This is teh kind of scent i truly adore and it feels so me .. The powdery violet, rose slight amber is a delight on my skin. It not much leather on me . maybe way in the background if nose put close to skin . But what is wafting around me is a powdery cooling and warm at the same time (strange) makeup powdery violet rose . Infact this reminds me quit abit of Vivienne Westwood Naught Alice. it has that powdery vanilla slightly dusty. but not in any way shape or form Naughty or dirty as in trashy slutty kind of way. Yes there might be something mimiking skin scent . but not in a bad way at all . Calvin klein Reveal does that to and much more so then this one . not that they are similer to each other , other then that they bouth mimik skin scent in a nice way IMO. This i would treasure as long as i have it and probebly will be looking for another bottle to. Need more of this kinds of scent . It is long lasting aswell ,not very potent more medium potent perhaps ,but enough to get you notised . I would not say its very unik or different as you might think reading about it (and the name aswell ) But if you like powder and clean romantic scent id say go for it . A New love and very happy about it <3

Jaxie23

A MUST HAVE for powder lovers! Reminds me very much of Juliette Has A Gun Citizen Queen without the edge. It's JHAG younger much softer baby sister. Unique in their own way. Wish this was easier to find. I used half the bottle already. I am in love with this gorgeous fluffy powdery dream cloud.

njwooding

This one is a solid pass in my book. Baby powder at first, and then it dries down to a very boring and bland spiced floral deal. One of the more forgettable fragrances in ELDO's lineup. Maybe I'm just too young to appreciate this one...

amberonic

"Doesn’t every woman have the fantasy of being a temptress in a hotel bar, of yielding to desire in the intimacy of a lift or of giving way to sensuality in silk sheet luxury ? "

The answer to that question is, "No."

I don't find anything especially erotic or seductive in this juice. A fruity, powdery, violet which has decent sillage and lasting power but is not particularly unique or exceptional.

CLevol

Very well made perfume!!
In the beginning the palace sluts are innocent like babies ...,but when they sit on your skin for a while they become very seductive and sweet.
They are expensive courtesans because the dry-down (although I don't think "dry down"is a good description among palace courtesans) remains sweet and seductive.
Would swear they feed you a vanilla cake every now and then ...,but that could be your imagination.

emerson10

baby powder but make it spicy.

it's a no from me dog.

lovesick

the contents dancing at the bottom of a well-used leather purse: vintage lipstick jostling around, feminine hygiene products, old compact powder, fruit lozenges, solid rouge.. stuffy subtle sweetness of violets blooming between post-menstrual legs. ivory flesh of a feminine back in an odalisque by lefebvre, osseous and angular. make a mess of the dining room, disgracing the bloodline and spoiling thy name--who else will indulge on the pastilles and gateau? surely not the bourgeois heiress. icing dribbling onto the décolletage of the fille de joie in ecclesiastical ecstasy.. the film daisies (1966) comes to mind: "one should try everything."

this opens with such a sweet, pink, fruity juiciness, followed by a soft rose, but for some reason few people here mention anything like this. how could that be? the notes listed here don't even have any fruit voted on much by the masses! after looking at the etat libre d'orange site listing for this, i feel validated.
- the actual top notes: mandarin, ginger, raspberry
- middle notes: iris, rose, rice powder
- base notes: tonka bean, sandalwood, musk

the iris, rice powder, and sandalwood certainly create a sheer powdery quality, but it never once begins to smell like talcum powder thanks to the candy-like fruits being gently squeezed above. so much raspberry and orange upon spraying! the iris and lily-of-the-valley then take the reigns with musk instructing them from the back. i like it, and this is coming from someone who typically utterly detests most "powdery" fragrances; however, it's very strong and became ever so slightly suffocating to me even though i only sprayed my wrist once and do enjoy the scent. even after scrubbing with soap and a sponge, i can still smell it. impressive.

songs for putain des palaces: diet by au pairs, bend me shape me by the models, i confess by dorothy, precious by iud.

wrongcall

How on earth are people smelling genitalia in this? I WISH my vagina could smell this nice. On my skin, its smells like sweet and warm powder. Some of you need to learn not to take the fantastical descriptions and names of the product so literally omg.

clemmy

Bad blind buy. I got it only because of the funny name and the hype for the brand.
The opening is a disappointment, to me it smells granny vintage talc. It is not powdery sweet (at my nose) and I cannot get violets. The best description is low quality talc powder and not even strong sillage or persistance. I am sure is about personal reaction to scents.
Not recommended for blind buy.
PS message if you want to buy or swap from Italy/Europe

djbethell

Immediately reminded me of an overly sweet home-made tomato-based cooking sauce for pasta. Not a very pleasant musky funk.

glucklich

The funk that all these people speak of? I don't smell it. All I get is Sweet - Powder - Sweet. Maybe, if i bury my face in it, a little spice, but like, the sprinkle of spice on top of a gallon of vanilla ice cream. I don't really even get iris from it, it smells like a musky vanilla powder. Not as offensive as it could be but I'll never wear it.

elledeelee

This fragrance is perfectly pretty for a powdery violet scent, but fairly basic. I get amber, honeyed plums and a touch of sourness as well, but for me I find there's too much powder, and not enough leather. It's a little brassy, but overall sweet, marshmallowy and feminine. Given the name I was hoping for something very sexy and a bit skanky, and this is neither. But if you love powder, this could be the one for you.

NDStars

First blast of light effervescent powdery florals immediately followed by an earthy animalic musk, presenting as cumin and BO on my skin for a fleeting moment. Very aptly named perfume. I imagine this is what the Putain's bedsheets smell like the morning after a grand ball, tired and sweaty after dancing and ....putain'ing all night. After a minute the frag evolves to a spicy sweet floral with hints of citrus and finally settles on powdery violets for the long dry down. What a glorious journey! Feminine bc of the powdery notes and best for warm weather.

6+ hours later: A faint whiff of powdery violets remains.

hnica

This putain is retired, and is as sexy as Tom Jones singing "Sexbomb" (not). The only interesting part is in the very beginning when the leather is taking the lead, but after 10 minutes the whole thing mellows down to a not particularly interesting warm powdery mishmash, with very minimal sillage. I love powder, I really do, but this is among the totally forgettable ones in my book, next to Citizen Queen and Maitresse. You want a putain? Keep searching.

alexandradaos

Never smelled this, but I find the description to be incredibly hilarious in its stereotypical manner.

pinkmossy

This is a lot of violets and baby powder but I definitely smell the leather on my skin, a soft suede like leather but still present. Its definitely feminine and soft with that hard edge of the leather growing in the background. The leather grows on my skin with time. Still soft and powdery but there's definitely a lived in type of smell with this fragrance. It's not pure fresh powder on my skin.

annebannan

It’s the crème de la crème of violet baby powder on my skin. That’s it. That’s all. No cumin, leather, or B.O. I just smell like an unbelievably soft, cuddly, happy baby whose parents have a ton of money and love me dearly. 😊

elegantshnozzie

I have found this perfume to be the best version of itself in the air, not in burying your nose in your skin. I get a sweetness from the violet, softness from the obvious powder, and a depth from the leather (which works together to deliver a sweet crispness around you). I really appreciate and crave the leather in this, it makes it different from other violety-powdery styles and grounds it with a poise and edginess I respect.

Unfortunately, when smelling directly from the skin within the first hour of spraying, the musk blankets it with a chalky syntheticness that reminds me of the part of YSL'S Cinema that makes me nauseous (does anyone else experience this? please lmk!) While this stage does calm down and subside, I think that is what prevents me from purchasing a full bottle at the moment. I love this once that musk bit works itself out but riding that wave is quite a drag.

Once you get to the dry down and the blanket is thrown into the air, it intrigues and keeps me coming back for more. I will continue to use my sample...This chapter is not closed...

EDIT:
I went back for a sniff of my sample and it was exactly what I was craving. The leather makes this sexy, the musk subsides and is not bothersome. This is my bad girl with an innocent gaze perfume for sure. Found a bottle for $39.99, what a journey, I'm happy!!

acottong

Although it's not listed in the notes, I get a huge whiff of stinky cumin, which smells like B.O.! For me, this perfume smells like powder mixed with B.O. mixed with a nauseating leather. My skin tends to amplify cumin notes, so that may be the issue here. Or perhaps it is the rose taking on a sour tone on my skin.

What's interesting is that this clearly smells completely different on/to other people! (Isn't perfume wonderful like that?) I definitely get a raunchy genitalia vibe from this, but not in a pleasant way. If you're curious about this one, I definitely recommend giving it a try – it could be wonderful on you, or it could be terrible! It's a unique experience either way.

Kim Kirk

First spritz I a smell Play-Doh when opening a new jar to play with. After a bit I get the florals. I'd probably not purchase the full bottle just because the smell of Play-Doh is etched in my brain now. I searched the web and found fragrances that are supposed to smell like Play-Dou. I like the smell of it when I was a child. Don't like it anymore. So this is a no for me.

annaelizabeth

The first whiff is all Dr. Pepper. The second is more Mr. Pibb

Donkar

I can't imagine someone wanting to smell like that, its more on the daring side of the scale. Animalic, powdery, not in a good way. It has a somewhat earthy amber & marinated olives in its core. A bit dated imo. Wanted to like it as I do appreciate some of the creations by this house.

Mim

The leather note in this one is divine, creamy and sensual. The perfume itself is gentle, feminine and soft.
I smell strong leather, powdery iris, some rose and musk. However, the smell is supreme. Yes, this smell has an expensive makeup vibe to it. Very pleasing.
Anyway, I don't think it smells like sex, sheets or sweat in regards to the name. It evokes the smell of a naked, freshly showered body and soft, lotioned skin. Simple and beautiful.
It did remind me of Tori Amos's song Leather (then again, the leather is the most prominent note on my skin), and especially of the lyrics: "Look, I'm standing naked before you, don't you want more than my sex?"
I love it.
I find the fragrance to be long-lasting (around 12 hours on my skin) and moderate in projection.

alit

This is sooo gorgeous! The kind of gorgeous where you just can't stop sniffing your arm to get more of it. First spray is strong fresh flowery-alcoholic blast. I can barely tell apart the flowers, perhaps the violet stands out the most and some sort of smoky rose, very well blended really. Then it settles down to very realistic leather and something very boozy appears, almost as if I'm smelling a cup of whiskey (I thinks it's a result of the Amber-orange combo). Very beautiful, very "skin" like perfume, like all of the above aromas have blended with a girl's face powder and lipstic scents- that's what gives the powdery overall feel. I'm in love!

rkirkman

This is a very nice powdery frgrance with an underlying leather note, but there are a lot of nice fragrances like that out there. I guess I was just expecting something a little more icky and interesting from a Etat Libre d'Orange fragrance named Putain des Palaces.

maria_elena

Wanted this for so long, finally got it in time for the Summer, which it doesn't really seem people's recommended time to wear it. The thing is, I'm not totally sold on the seasonality of perfumes, all the more because I think this is the type of scent that blooms with the heat, since I've caught it smelling kinda sweaty on me (and right after a shower, so I know it wasn't really me).
Obviously it's "sweaty" in a nice way. Well, not really nice, it's sort of dirty actually, it's the slutty vibe the perfume is supposed to have. But it's not a constant feature, and possibly the temperature helps it develop this way.
So to the people missing this facet my suggestion is spritz it during a hot and humid day and see if anything changes.
Curious as to know if it changes during the colder months and becomes a tame(r) powdery floral.

giggle_butt

I love this. This is sexy daytime powder. The projection is great. I proudly wore my sample like it was my signature.

PdP isn't a slut, but rather, a sexy confident woman you WISH you could f*ck. Alternative style icon. Could be uber-feminine, could be punk rock, could be a femme fatale. To me, PdP is a mixture of them all.

Let's be clear, when I smell this I don't think of sex. This is not an intoxicating take me now seducer. But PdP...yeah, she fucks.

I don't know if I need a full bottle, but I absolutely need more than the tiny tester I got.

dsmercoco

If PdP were a woman she would be wearing lingerie. A light dusty pink pinafore with ribbons, lace, garter belt and blush stockings. Not forgetting the low heel mules with the feathery slide over the top of her foot. She's a sultry tramp that just got finished doing her last jon and took a bath in the sink before her next "client" walks in. That's exactly what this scent envokes for me.
There's a deliberate innocence to it but the underlying notes of sweat and intimacy beg to be noticed as well. It's sweet too in the opening, moreso than I had anticipated but it dissipates and settles into a very powdery concoction. Not baby powder tho, it's definitely cosmetic but wow shes got way more to say than just face powder. Blind bought this and it's really growing to be a favorite for me.
A must try if you like powdery scents.

churinl

I just applied this to my skin for the very first time, and so far, I like it. When I smell directly from my wrist, I definitely get a strong aroma of sex, but the cloud around me is all violet and powder. I could swear there is some cumin in here, but not enough to make me dislike it. I also like the idea of projecting a traditionally feminine "ladylike" aura, only allowing those I choose to bury their face in my neck and smell the more carnal aspects. That part is receding now that it's transitioning to the middle, and I kind of wish it stuck around longer. The powder is amped up now. We shall see where the fragrance takes me throughout the day, and if it becomes a love instead of just a like...

Several hours later, the muskiness of the juice becomes evident, bringing the composition back to it's "whorish" entrance! Yet it still maintains an oddly comforting nature as it continues to waft around me. I wonder if this paradox was deliberate - the whole madonna/whore concept in fragrance form. I am intrigued, and convinced that the more I wear this, the more I will come to love it.

BTW - I also received my bottle of Rayon Violet today, and lightly sprayed my inner arm. The similarities are there, and in all fairness, I need to give it a proper try, but my first impression is that PdP is a a bit more "Dangerous Liaisons" than RV.

Aland2020

I gotta leave a review for this one seeing as the one I just got finished leaving a review for is very similar to this: Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige (EDT). They both seem to be built around similar note concepts, but of course Etat Libre had to spice it up and add a little shock factor. And I gotta say for this one it really paid off. I enjoy the direction this fragrance takes much more than I do the former fragrance. Where Teint de Neige just becomes a timid whisper of boring fragrance, in PdP, the powder note stays pronounced and doesn't just wilt into the background. The violet note in here gives some definition to the powder, a little bit of tartness. And then I get just the faintest hint of that leather note. Not enough to smell like a saddle shop or get too kinky (although the house probably hoped that'd be the direction our nose would take), it's not overpowering enough to do that. It smells like a brand new leather handbag, where you've crushed fresh violets and added a heaping pile of sweet talcum powder into the mix. It's interesting, it's fresh and I doubt anyone would find it offensive scent-wise, unless they asked for the name and also happened to speak French to know what you said. But that could also just be a dirty little secret you keep all to yourself, and I find that a charming aspect to this fragrance.

I don't think this fragrance is sexy, but I do think it accomplished the womanly powder, angelic with a naughty twist vibe way better than Teint de Neige. Sillage also held out much longer, but longevity is about the same, fading off around 6 hours. An unexpected, yet much appreciated love this turned out to be.

Emorandeira

Putain des palaces is a femenine tagged perfume but i really think It can be easily worn by a man. It is a bit like portrait of a lady by Frederic Malle. In this case we hace the rose powerized and masculinized with patchouli and incense. Here se have the typically femenine violet, subtle and powdery and bit sweet, mixed with leather, Ginger and amber which gives to the fragance the power that It needs to fit Well also men. And It is not something about me, because i usually wear Violet femenine perfumes without any problem cause i love them, but this is not only this kind of perfume.
Regarding the smell putain des palaces is flowery, sweet, subtle and elegant. It is not as strong as fornexample portrait if a lady is, but is has some strenght in the background. The Violet used here is lovely but Broken with the harsh vibe of the rose and the citric and spicy character of the Ginger.
The longevity is good, It lasts about 7-9 hours on skin, but the sillage is only moderate. So, although the perfume is intense and by the way good for night time and cold weather, It is not invasive at all, therefore It can be warm at night with warm weather or during the day under colder temperaturas. One of my favourite ELDO fragances!

I ve purchased this scent blindly, never done it before. I don’t think I regret it, the second I sprayed it on me, I was sent back in time, to my young self smelling my momma s perfumes. The smell of it is like a far, far memory of the inside of a cosmetic drawer. Of course, the body of this perfume is more than that and I will write it too, it starts powdery and becomes one with my skin. Intense in the first moments and then it disappers, I m not sure if I can t feel it after one hour or it s just gone. Smells clean and can easily become one’s signature perfume.

This perfume is from a lost time, does not try to align with anything else (from what I have tried) and for this it started to grow on me and I think I will use it.

Ordered a small sample set and this was included, can't help to find it similar to CIEL URLIC DE VARENS,very similar, maybe us the amber and lavender, very soft and wearable fragance, not sexy but very comfortable and feminine.

On first spray, it doesn't remind me of any kind of "whore" but if a clean baby.. smells like Baby Magic from Mennen. As it dries down, I get the light powdery makeup smell mixed with leather gloves.. this is a beautiful spring fragrance.

LaChinoiserie

THIS IS THE MOST.. ABSOLUTELY.. INTOXICATING SCENT I'VE EVER SMELLED

I definitely get more of an 18th century Versailles courtesan vibe. I smell:
Madame de Pompadour & Madame du Barry
Ridiculously over-powdered faces and wigs
Robe à la française, lace, the smell of the inside part of a yellowed vintage corset
Mushroom clouds of powder, rouge, and lipstick
The smell of the inside of a vintage makeup purse
Animalic attraction.

But then again, the modern version... the Sofia Coppola interpretation.

What can I say, it is sinfully delightful and once I finish my sample I plan to buy the 100ml bottle and drench myself in it and smell like so much French whore powder it'll make people cough ;)

joseffgabriel

The powdery notes here is the amber. It doesn't smell like makeup. It smells like amber. Which is good if you love amber orientals like shalimar.

GenevaX

This brings to mind those two Goya paintings of the same woman in identical poses, one nude and one clothed. The title of this fragrance promises the carnal naughtiness of the Nude Maja, but it's ultimately much closer to the self-contained sensuality of the Clothed Maja. This isn't necessarily a criticism of Putain's alluring combination of powder, leather, and florals, topped with a citrus tang. Chic and vintage certainly, but scandalous it is not.

sistermoon

Smells A LOT like Cantate by Yves Rocher. Anglomania by V. Westwood is listed here as a smell-alike. Which makes sense because I have always thought that Anglomania is a softer version of Cantate. Putain des palaces is somewhere between the two. Leathery, powdery with a nearly narcotic violet note. Lots of sandalwood. It's beautiful but for the price you'll get more bang for your money, more richness and potency if you hunt down a bottle of Cantate on ebay.

Review part deux ~

Everything I said below remains true & the more perfumes I experience, the more I realize how truly special this is. I personally haven’t encountered anything comparable or that produces a similar effect. (Please point me in that direction if you have!) Wearing it is always blissful. I feel as if this is the closest I’ve come to a true ‘signature’ scent, if there can be such a thing for someone who has love for many & never stops hunting.

Putain is unique & alluring to me because it actually smells like a person; not just a perfume, separate from the being wearing it but someone’s actual personal, human scent. Let your mind wander… Yes, down there, too. I keep laughing to myself, at myself, wondering with intense amusement… What does this actually say about me? I suppose that’s why I mentioned Perfume: The Story of a Murderer in part I… It wasn’t that the girl was wearing any perfume, it was her own natural, nuanced, intoxicating human scent that Jean-Baptiste was after, attempting to capture & bottle.
& To me... This is that.

Also, the name; the subversion... I absolutely adore! Come on, Ladies! This is about having a sense of humour. I would much rather answer: Putain des Palaces when asked, than Chanel N°5 out of fear of feeling uncomfortable in the presence of the pretentious.

"I don’t care what you think of me. I don’t think of you at all."

— Coco Chanel

That's the attitude!

(Chanel used as an example to convey meaning.)

This is what I wear when I want to.... set the mood ;-)
I love the intimate implied physicality of this scent. Leather and powder in all their boudoir glory, with a little violet to keep it all above board!
Very nicely blended, this perfume has medium sillage and on me lasts 6+ hours.
A chimera fragrance...

on my skin, this is chock full of powdery rose, violet, and ginger, with very soft, supple leather and a bit of tangerine for additional (and needed) sharpness. I feel without the ginger and zing of tangerine this would be exhausting to smell. after 20 or so minutes, a hot sort of musk comes to play. it makes me think of the crook of someone's neck when you go home with them after a night of dancing. I will have to sit with this one for a while.

Malka92

this is my 3rd time around with this scent....my third sample vial and my 3rd time trying to figure it out. The idea and "vibe" of this scent seem so perfect. so mysterious, sexy, not "love" but "lust".

To me, I am only getting very pungent coriander (almost burnt curry) notes on my skin. maybe some old leather. i can't help but imagine BO or sweaty armpits. jeez that sounds horrible.

I can not, for the life of me, pick up any rose or florals..at all.

I am not giving up just yet...

jazzfan

I have a serious soft spot for everything powdery that smells like a lady who has put some effort in her appearance. And when they end up having real character and complexity, I'm in Heaven. That's the primary reason why I love classics. Even the granny stuff. The new is rarely interesting or intriguing enough.

This little thing is spunky, comfy and naughty. There are impressive lipstick and makeup themed perfumes out there, but none of them is as personal, charming or addictive as this one.
I think it's perfect.

Received a sample of this with a recent order.
I really enjoyed the opening...kind of dirty and zingy.
But, then when it settled,it became a run-of-the-mill lipstick/make-up powder with violet/rose-ish combo scent. So, nothing unique. I enjoy the smell of this, but have other scents "similar" to this one,so not full bottle worthy for me.
Sillage/projection/longevity are all "light" on my skin.
Skin scent category.

Hotel whore I think

Valerie K

Wait.. Putain des Palaces.. "Palace Whore"? Pardon my lack of formal French ( I opted for Spanish in school).. But.. Would that be the correct translation?

Manuscoronum

Top notes of: Feminine Sweat....(Salted caramel)
This instantly had a faint smell of vagina and something sweet like caramel or chocolate.

Heart notes of: A sexy person, glitter and makeup, lipstick and a sweet bouquet of violets and roses in front of them.
This mid-note lingers on and on. It's powdery and definitely filled with a heavy Violet and musky note. There are fruity notes here that mimic a sweet, not sour, peach.

This is an impressively subtle fragrance that carries an imaginative array of notes that resemble a person with an urge and desire to bring in a hot powerful lover in for the evening and yet it also has a soft subdued note of passion and romance.

Putain Des Palaces - 10/10

evapap181977

arrived in the morning.its been two hours since i ve sprayed it on my skin.either makeup scent nor lipstick.powdery flowers and leather...a hint of honey..this whore of the palace is a classy one.my first eldo. and im quiet satisfied so far.i wiil try some more since this has pass the test.its projection so far is excellent considering that i ve only sprayed once and softly.EDIT.layered with Fracas on my skin last night out of the blue..for my taste and from all the experimental layering this is the most successful.

I haven't been inspired to write a perfume review in a long, long time. I am realizing my tastes have become much more sophisticated than most of what I've been exposed to thus far... & Probably why I don't find many perfumes very satisfying for very long. Perfume has become my greatest obsession. Think... 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer'. Sans the murder, of course.

Putain des Palaces immediately struck me as the sexiest, most exquisitely beautiful, yet somehow also comforting perfume I have ever smelled. My blush deepening with each inhale, I imagine this to be the intoxicating scent trailing off of the young woman that lured Jean-Baptiste Grenouille to his & other's destruction, in the setting of 18th-century France. Visions of an opulently gilded Versailles... A divine, Heavenly masterpiece conjured in an oddly pleasing bottle. & It may be because I have a dark, sort of deviant sense of humour but I absolutely ADORE the name! This is one high class 'Putain', If that is what she is at all, other than for the sheer pleasure of hearing a shocked laugh or quizzically raised brow when someone asks the name of your perfume. I wear you with utmost pride, Putain des Palaces...♥

Having only dabbed from a sample vial {from my favourite perfume shoppe, Luckyscent ~ HOLA!} I find the sillage rather quiet. Again I seem to have found myself in love with a perfume that I recall seeing the laughable 'smells like a grandma' comments... I would like to say, as a little reminder... Grandmothers were once young, too. Modern perfumes are very sweet, or mimicking the cleanliness of a shower, therefore modern noses are not accustomed to what smelled absolutely ravishing in the past. I don't care if you like it, I don't even want you to like it... But it's something to keep in mind when critiquing. I love reading all reviews, even the scathing ones.

Vickalicious

I'd been wanting this one for YEARS, and I finally purchased it. This fragrance is really quite unique, I've not smelled anything like it before. On my skin it's very powdery--but a fine, expensive powder. It's also quite sweet (I'm guessing from the mandarin), and there is something sweaty and animalic about it. It's a nice juxtaposition of feminine meets something dark/animalic. However, I think this is rather unisex. I find this fragrance very sexy. This lasts all day on me, with a moderate projection, however I feel if sprayed quite a bit this could take over the room. This fragrance is also quite heavy smelling. Therefore, I'd only wear this in the Fall, Winter, and perhaps early Spring. I'm definitely glad to have this one in my collection!

yellow_tulip

I love the idea of this but I can't stand wearing it. Too much powder for me. It really does have an old-timey feel, with a little bit of sweat mixed in.

jeannebelmondo

Beautiful but doesn't hold a candle to the incredibly similar Vivienne Westwood Anglomania if you really crave that burning, smoky, incense-laced rose. This is kind of Anglomania for the more faint of heart, still captures the same essence of a lipstick, talcum powder, burning embers with roses, but has less depth and doesn't linger on as long. Still a beauty on its own, but once you've smelled its predecessor nothing else compares.

Proximo

- honey i love your perfume, what is it?
- uhhm... (hope she doesn’t speak French)

pansylady

Lovely soft violets, dripping with sweet golden amber- (does anyone else smell caramel or praline?).

If Alien Liqueur was laced with violets instead of jasmine, it would smell like this~

I'm impressed by the longevity and potency, and am surprised by how well this is wearing in the summer heat, when heavy amber scents can be a bit stifling.

kimberly_j16

This is an odd fragrance, I can't decide if I love it or hate it. On paper I should love it as I'm a big fan of powdery Iris, and Violets. I will wear it one day and it's lovely, the next day I can't wait to scrub it off. One day it smells of beautiful powdery florals and the next it smells dirty. I can't decide if I want to sell my bottle or keep it. Quite the enigma.

TxTizzy

To my untrained nose, this is all Violet, Rose, Powder and leather.

It will most def be my next FB purchase. It's a LOVE!

If someone asks what I'm wearing, I will probably just make something up lol

Sampled this from a 7 piece discovery set. I liked most of the samples I've tried from ELDO, but this and Jasmin et Cigarette were the winners.

*** Just ordered my full bottle on ebay and I'm SO stoked.

This is my first try of Etat Libre d'Orange perfumes. I have got a sample and tried it directly to my skin. It smells like dirty animal sweat for first 10 minutes after applying, which is kind a very thematic for Putains. After 20 minutes it started to smell something like cheap pig leather, civet, sweat, with a hint of powder and some flowers, which I cannot recognize (probably violets). After 30 minutes scent lingered close to the skin with very light projection of powder, ginger and leather.
Very strong at the beginning and my first thought was:"who will ever wear this?"
Lasted good 6 hours on my skin, faded with musk and powder.
It is actually quite wearable perfume for those, who like to smell like a civet with violets. I am a pass.
