Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia by Estée Lauder is a Floral fragrance for women. Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia was launched in 2007. Top notes are Lilac, Neroli and Brazilian Rosewood; middle notes are Gardenia, Tuberose, Jasmine, Lily and Orange Blossom; base notes are Bourbon Vanilla and Carnation.

Estee Lauder grand daughter, Aerin Lauder, has decided to honor the memory of her grandmother by creating a new perfume which is based on the fragrance Private Collection created at the beginning of 1970s especially for Estee Lauder\'s use. The company is preparing for launch of Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia at the end of summer 2007.

The fragrance composition is based on two flowers that Estee Lauder appreciated most, gardenia and tuberose, surrounded by orange flower, jasmine and white lily. In the top notes are neroli, lilac, and rosewood, and the base is composed of carnation and vanilla bourbon. The perfume is created in line with the Aerin Lauder\'s conception by noses of Firmenich.

The perfume bottle design was inspired by Josef Hoffmann brooch, the top is gold, encrusted with semi-precious gemstones such as aventurine, citrine, green and yellow jade, and nephrite. Each bottle will be unique, as each gemstone is unique.

Beautiful, hyper-realistic white florals. It's so bridal to me, white dresses, gold jewelry and tall champagne glasses on a sunny day. Very classy and comforting. Last long and projects beautifully with summer wind! Saving up for a bottle. I'm glad I checked it out at the Estee Lauder stand, no one talks about it!

EL’s Tuberose Gardenia is a gorgeous, heady perfume, that all true lovers of white florals must try!
It starts off TUBEROSE gardenia then dries down GARDENIA tuberose. It’s beautiful at all stages. However..there is one note in this composition that I wish was left out. There’s a note that’s somewhat akin to a tortilla chip that permeates this perfume. Perhaps it’s the rosewood? I find it quite noticeable, but others may not. I don’t like to assign ages to fragrances since I own many vintages that I wear with glee, but even at age 30, every time I try this white flower beauty I feel like a kid wearing her elegant mother’s high heels.

A blind buy that paid off. I couldn't find any samples or testers and only the large size was available on the EL website. As it says on the tin it smells of Tuberose and Gardenia but with very pleasant greenish creaminess. It's a gorgeous scent but maybe my expectations were a bit too high after reading all the reviews. Similar vibe to Do Son.

LANashGirl

Amazing gardenia perfume. I had been searching for a gardenia perfume that actually smells good with my body chemistry and this is it! Maybe it has to do with the tuberose rounding out the scent, or the high quality of Estée Lauder fragrances. I just love this. I feel that it would be best in warm weather, day or night. This is a powerful, confident vibe to be sure. If you don’t want to draw attention to yourself, stay away from this. But I think it’s a stunning fragrance, and I’m so glad I found a gardenia scent that I love.

Orcadorka

This honest to god smelled like fejoa fruits.

Heliodora

This was a blind buy for me, after reading some raving reviews and after seeing, that the bottle I bought might be the last available on the local online market - a FOMO mistake. In general I love tuberose, and I expected tuberose to be more prominent. I have never smelled gardenia before, but I will assume, that this is the main note, that I am picking up on. Can't smell any lilac, vanilla or rosewood here. Slightly indolic, without a hint of sweetness or freshness. It's very mature, linear white floral and it feels like a scent, that I might need to "grow up into". But still, I am determined to make it work for me; will try layering it with vanilla, or something fresh. Performance overall is great, it will not disappoint.

Tuberose Gardenia by Estée Lauder is unabashedly snobby and delightfully bitchy. It unfurls with a realistic tuberose and gardenia duet, intricately blended. A subtle woody-neroli accord lends a touch of classicism, while whispers of camphorous tones, akin to cloves, inject an edgy character. It is a fragrance that radiates cold, dry power.

Bangabanga

It’s a bit like LSD — a beautiful trip that lasts too damn long.

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this beauty yet, I've been wearing it for a long time.

The opening of Lauder's Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia is stunning. Refreshing, luscious, heady with a truly gorgeous gardenia. Thick, creamy, smooth, vegetal, subtly indolic, with an earthy, wet, mushroom touch, this is the closest I've come to "gardenia" in perfumery. The gardenia fades to a realistic yet almost translucent tuberose in the heart. This tuberose is creamy, sweet, and indolic but not overpowering. It doesn't go in the 'overripe cantaloupe' direction as so many do. Other nondescript florals peek through (the carnation note is subtle but vital to the seamless texture), a touch of vanilla maintains the form and color, the final phase reveals a soapy floral base.

This one is restorative for me, it's a lovely perfume. Heady and opulent without offending or overwhelming the senses. Classical sensibilities beautifully rendered for the modern world. It's a Lauder release so it's well thought out and it smells fantastic for at least 3 hours. Most new releases only smell good for about 10 minutes, and most new white floral releases smell like screechy soap abominations.

As for the Gucci comparison: Tuberose Gardenia doesn't smell anywhere near Gucci Bloom. That perfume is shrill and soapy from the get-go, and it is sorely lacking in realism and refinement. Tuberose Gardenia is so lifelike it has what can only be described as a 3-D effect.

This perfume is expensive and hard to come by, but believe you me, it is worth every penny. If you want to get the most out of this beautiful gardenia, apply the perfume to clothing. If you want to find a bottle at a reduced price, I suggest habitually checking the Saks off Fifth website. The 30 ml bottle will occasionally come up for a good discount. You can also try the Lauder discount retailer "the cosmetics company store", although this website does not restock as frequently. Best of luck good smelling people!

silthrill

One of the most beautiful floral fragrances ever created. Tuberose fragrances are a love-it-or-hate-it for me and this particular one I love. The key I guess is balancing the tuberose with the gardenia and the other florals, otherwise tuberose can become domineering. The vanilla is subtle but it gives a slight softness and refines the scent. This fragrance is warm, a bit tropical, feminine, extremely sexy. I'd say this would suit age 35+.

I don't agree with the Gucci Bloom resemblance- I mean it's similar in that they both have tuberose (I can see how to the untrained nose they might be similar as it's a strong note). If you're a fragrance-head (ie. someone who spends time on Fragrantica regularly), Gucci Bloom is the oversimplified, one-dimensional version of this. This has much more depth and beauty.

Xela_529

Wowzers! This is BEAUTIFUL. Every tuberose lover needs this in their collection. I was not expecting to love this so much. It’s my new early summer signature scent in that I want to be KNOWN for this smell.

The flowers are super realistic but not heady/indolic. It seems like an oxymoron but the folks at Firmenich were able to pull it off. There’s a tropical feel to this fragrance which I completely adore. Some folks say they can’t pick up on the gardenia but I sure can. It’s there. It makes me feel like I am in a tuberose & gardenia garden after the rain. There’s also some banana trees lingering around; it’s giving the fragrance a very warm & inviting quality.

I don’t agree with the comparison to Gucci Bloom simply because Gucci Bloom, while nice, it doesn’t nearly come close to TG in terms of quality and sillage. TG is beast mode and warm. I find Bloom to have a colder quality.

10/10!!!!

Enar_smells_good

I didn't give an actual rating because I've only tried the Oil Perfumery version of this. But now I feel like I need to try the real thing!

wearing this again for the first time in 7+ years and I’d forgotten how DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS it is. if you love floral fragrances, and enjoy white tubey-gardenias in particular, this one is top 1-2 in the world. it’s starts off mentholated but that aspect burns off to become a warm simmering sultry floral like no other. Enchanting. Transfixing. Excellent longevity & good sillage. 10/10.

ps: in case it satisfies curiosity my top favorite white florals in addition to this, are: FM Carnal Flower, LL Lys 41, Parfumerie Generale Tubereuse Couture, AG Songes EDP and VCA California Reverie (poor longevity on the VCA though). But I’d put this as tied at #1 spot with Carnal Flower. Gucci Bloom and others being compared to this are not nearly as good.

This is absolutely beautiful. This is Gardenia done right and real. In my collection (of my Tuberose white florals) this is the refined more put together fraternal twin sister of Gucci Bloom. And Bloom is no where near so wild like her cousin Do Son EDT (who occasionally lives out of her car) . I wear all three for different occasions, I love them all at different times.

I used to nearly exclusively wear Bloom (pink) on the daily. It comforts me reminds me of my grandma, but doesn’t WEAR like it’s my grandmas perfume, just hints at her to me. Makes me feel like a responsible solid human being in the world, who can always do and be better, a comfort to others, a kind soul and it makes me feel beautiful.
EL Tuberose Gardenia is the only other perfume I have found (so far) to be exactly in that same lane, but refined a little more.
Tuberose Gardenia lacks the spicy/tickley floral note that bloom has, (might be the Rangoon creeper in bloom) and it isn’t fruity in any way, like Grand Bal with the peach note.( I know Grand Bal doesn’t list Tuberose as a note, but I compare it to the tuberoses because it has 3 different white florals that are similar to Tuberose to me. And that peach note softens the florals off in a way only a whisper of peach can )
And there isn’t ANYTHING dirty smelling about EL Tuberose Gardenia like in Do Son.

I’m so glad I got this, I blind bought it! First full bottle blind buy and it was total success! I discovered that it was NOT discontinued like many EL sales counter associates have told me, I found out on their website that they sell it, AND THEN I found it NIB on resale for $45! Had to buy, and it’s a love

There is not much more to say about this beauty. I am grateful to WhiteFlowerPrincess who told me about this fragrance and I was able to order it and received it within two days. I wore this fragrance during a gloomy rainy day and it was mesmerizing. It lasted an entire day on my skin and it is a major complimented fragrance. 3-4 sprays is all a person needs. I am developing a slight obsession for gardenia fragrances. A slight obsession! Who am I kidding here, that is not an obsession, I need to go to fragrance anonyms.

I adore this perfume. I first smelled it in an elevator on a woman and asked her what she was wearing and bought a bottle. I fell in love immediately. However, never had a compliment when wearing it. I realize that’s not the barometer for reviewing a fragrance but I was disappointed because of how beautiful it smells. I love all of the bursting notes in this fragrance

Since reading Luca Turin's glowing review of this scent as a young teenager, I have wanted to try this seemingly excellent rendering of gardenia. I wasn't disappointed - Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia is a classy, creamy white floral that does exactly what it says on the tin. Gardenia is a notoriously difficult note to emulate in perfumery - it has to be synthetically rendered, and thus, has resulted in many a misnomer (Chanel, Elizabeth Taylor, Penhaligon's et al.). I smelled gardenia flowers in France, and can confirm that PCTG features a realistic gardenia note. I also owned a rather good rendering of gardenia in soap-bar form once. It is a creamy, slightly sweet, slightly tropical white floral note - less carnal than tuberose, smoother and less tropically sweet than ylang ylang, less indolic yet more intense than jasmine, and earthier than all. There is a greenness to it, but more smoothly incorporated into the white creaminess than in other white florals. I am a lover of white florals, and so blind-bought a big bottle of the EDP. It certainly paid off - this is a simple yet spectacular white floral scent, nothing unusual, but remarkable in its execution.

Gardenia is king here, the focal point of this scent, bolstered to perfection by sweet tuberose and other soft white florals. I get some hazy lilac in the opening, followed closely by the creamy gardenia that unfolds on my skin. The tuberose is sweet and muted, serving to enhance the gardenia.

As it develops, clean, powdery jasmine rounds it out, and I get a nice, heady lily note too, unmistakable but restrained. There is a green undertone adding dewy, stem-like freshness but without taking from the creamy white florals at the heart of this scent.

A little powdery vanilla adds sweetness to the drydown, and it becomes slightly musky as it fades. The sweet white florals remain until final fade. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting - a little goes a long way.

A masterfully-composed, classy white floral, this is elegant, timeless and ageless - not too carnal, not indolic, not too sweet, not artificial. Perfectly judged, it features a natural-smelling, high-quality white floral bouquet with just the right amount of sweetness and greenness. Rich and creamy without relying on the liberal use of vanillin, this is the real deal (and much more affordable than its quality suggests). Bonus points for the pitch-perfect gardenia note. A personal favourite. Faultless. 5/5.

sarahmarah

I don’t know what to think with this.
I’m new to floral perfumes but I fell in love recently with gardenia having sampled Kai and Tocca Florence and wanting more! More depth and richness.
This perfume came so highly recommended that I got a travel sample to try. This is my second time wearing it and I have an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. It reminds me of the pink powdered public school hand soap of the early nineties. It’s Necco wafers and conversation hearts. As an adult I recognize something akin to the scent of urinal cake. Not in a pissy way but I’m that mentholish way. Sweet Powder, carnation, and menthol. If I were to guess I think the carnation note is what’s tripping me up. I can appreciate the scent and wish I could articulate the notes accurately. I don’t think it’s what I’m after.

saho93

This is a like for me, not a love. I think I get a bit too much carnation. It’s either carnation or something else that throws me off.

I like Aerin Tuberose Le Jour and Le Soir better, which seem more opulent and lush.

Update: 09/07/2023: I wore it again today. This, to my nose, is not animalic or indolic flowers, which is great. I like clean white florals. I still wish the carnation note were a bit muted, though the red flower may be what is keeping the animalic note at bay.

This perfume is of outstanding quality. I sprayed once on my wrist. Because I was eating dinner that clashed with the perfume, I washed my wrist twice during the course of the dinner. But I can still smell the scent even an hour after finishing dinner and having washed off using Dawn dish soap. Amazing.

My partner really likes this. 😘

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I adore this perfume! It's such a class act and it is mature smelling, but at the same time not old lady. I could imagine anyone from about 26 or 27 and up wearing this fragrance. It lasts very long as well and has quite a long trail and sillage.

I can smell a hint of woodiness at the top and a tiny touch of the neroli there too. But the heart notes are really where this perfume shines. As the name would suggest, I mainly get tuberose and gardenia here with a touch of jasmine. I don't really smell the base notes in it. Maybe the tiniest bit of vanilla?

But yes it's a beast of a fragrance and very animalic and slightly indolic, but in the most feminine way. I could imagine it being a very sexy 3rd date fragrance! Wink wink 😉

Maurizia4

Absolutely my favorite scent! Estee Lauder captured gardenia and tuberose in a bottle so perfectly. Longevity is amazing, worth every penny.

oenomel

Slightly greener than Lys 41 and way less heady than Elie Saab LP (the honey in Elie Saab overwhelms me a bit), but since I like the DNA of both, I absolutely love this blind buy! If you like heady white florals, this is a no-brainer. A blast of creamy gardenia grounded by sandalwood and lilac -- smells very photorealistic gardenia, with stem and all.

+1 with reviewer below: definitely does not smell like Gucci Bloom. Bloom is way more citrusy.

Edit: Sprayed on my jacket and lasted, loudly and brightly, after a whole day out in the rain.

ingrid.superstar

Initially, this was my consolation prize for not being able to afford Aerin Gardenia Rattan (which is far more coconutty and aquatic in comparison to this) in my hunt for the most creamy, beautiful gardenia ever. In spite of all the old-money, powder-and-pearls marketing, obviously the Lauders know what they're doing in terms of making fragrances (but if you'll forgive a bit of snark, every interview with Aerin Lauder makes her seem like the most basic, boring, woman in the world — that Lily Pulitzer meets Vera Bradley style is so tiresome). I digress.

Tuberose Gardenia is stunning, amazing! Creamy, lactonic, mushroomy, narcotically nightcreamish, softly tropical. I can't believe how much I like something that has such a strong metallic/indolic thread running through it that glows strong for at least the first hour, giving way to a lilac heart, of all things. I have a winter-planted paperwhite narcissus growing in my dining room in a jar right now, and TG smells a lot like it!

Public Service Announcement! This perfume does NOT smell like the following (all of which I like very much):
- Gucci Bloom (more citrus and bubblegum)
- FM Carnal Flower (louder, harsher green notes + large dose of ylang ylang)
- Diptyqe Do Son (more jasmin-forward and weirdly oily)

Air of Grace

There is not much more I can add that hasn’t already been mentioned in the numerous reviews of this masterpiece , except it’s stunning and I can see why it’s rated so high .

My search for the best gardenia - white floral is now complete ! 👏👏👏

Such a sublime , light , beauty that I envisage for a bridal scent . It will most definitely be mine .

Silage is soft and projection is close. I wish I got more longevity like a lot of other reviewers but on my perfume devouring skin , it was average (4 hours) unless you spray heavily .

Despite that , this is the best blind buy ever !!!

I own Kai by Kai and wanted to compare the two . I tried Kai on one hand and EL Tuberose Gardenia on the other and they are very similar in their opening notes . The indolic / animalic gardenia is evident in both but after an hour Kai becomes a softer , white floral whereas EL Tuberose Gardenia stays its slightly spicy from the carnation and indolic for a few more hours .

Update : This perfume is very hard to get here in Australia. I had to order it from England and have now bought another back up bottle . However , after trying Kai , I have to say I prefer my white florals stripped of its indoles and spiciness.

Abry_81

In one of the most emblematic scenes of Cuban Cinema, to be more exact the film "Lucía" one of the most important actresses that the Cuban archipelago has produced 'Raquel Revuelta' in a fit of frenzy, passion and madness asked to his mother for a Gardenia, it was impossible for me to get out that scene in my mind when atomizing this beautiful perfume created by Firmenich's noses commissioned by Aerin Lauder to pay homage to her grandmother Estee Lauder. The composition is part of the Private Collection line anthology created in 1973 and is based on two of the flowers that Estee Lauder most enjoyed: tuberose and gardenia.
I must say that I am not a fan of gardenia in perfumery (I love natural flowers) although I am a fan of white flowers, but this perfume is so beautiful, it is the most realistic interpretation of a gardenia that I have ever tried.
Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia is an ode to white flowers, it smells of all of them and at the same time it smells of pure and simple gardenia, it is a very realistic perfume, quite linear and with very good quality, this composition opens with a lilac chord with its bitterness clean and green that quickly gives way to the backbone of this perfume: the gardenia is absolute, white, pure and the tuberose is only here to reaffirm and cement it as the protagonist, they are present but like all the white flowers in this composition (lily, flower of orange, jasmine and I would swear that even ginger lily) are to unite all in a single note that adorns and makes the gardenia more powerful, the jasmine that feels very green here next to the neroli show us not only the flower but also the plant of the gardenia with its half-opened buds, green and fragrant stems and leaves and the bourbon vanilla comes to give it the natural sweetness of the flower (do not expect anything sweet or gourmand here, much less modern) this perfume for me it is a white floral of law, which sublimates the white flower in its most beautiful and natural expression, it is mature, elegant and exudes class, I do not see it despite its supposed simplicity, neither youthful nor casual.

leglesstoy

Hands down the *most* realistic gardenia fragrance ever invented. I bought a gardenia plant last summer, which died fast but made a lasting impression; this fragrance literally smells like the flower when it's in full bloom.

Nothing in the advertising campaign or the scent profile suggests that this is a unisex fragrance. I'm a guy, but who gives a damn? I don't, obviously ;)

(I saw some on here compared Tuberose Gardenia to Diptyque's Do Son. I own both. They're only similar in their pristine, slightly "aquatic* floral character; TG is much more indolic in the drydown and the tuberose is all but eclipsed by the gardenia accord, which I approve. I imagine that tuberose is listed only because they reconstituted the scent of gardenia through tuberose)

EDIT: After two months, my love for Tuberose Gardenia is still going strong. But I also discovered another photorealistic gardenia scent, except that it's not a perfume this time, but a candle. It's Frederic Malle's Un Gardenia La Nuit. The smell is absolutely stunning, more creamy / full-dimensional than Tuberose Gardenia. The perfumer is, unsurprisingly, Dominique Ropion. Too bad alas that it's a candle, not a perfume, otherwise I would have purchased it immediately.

mystica

Earlier batches of EL Tuberose & Gardenia were simply divine. The current formula is still good, however it smells more like jasmine sambac than gardenia or tuberose. (Tuberose was never dominant in this fragrance in the meantime.) It is colder, not lush & tropical like the previous version, and distinctively soapy, which makes it harder for me to wear... So, to give this fragrance an edge and some warmth, I tried to layer it with certain other fragrances I have. Here goes the result:

Layered with L'occitane Eau des Vanilliers: A precious vintage indeed... Since EL Tuberose Gardenia already has bourbon vanilla -which became totally unnoticable after several years of maceration- I thought the two fragrances would complete each other. Well, actually L'Occitane devoured EL the moment it was sprayed over it. Madagascar vanilla dominates the composition while the Tuberose Gardenia accentuated its tropical element with a slight but noticeable gardenia hue... A success. The result is overall sweet. No soapiness...

Layered with the Body Shop Vanilla: The quality difference between two fragrances became obvious in this combo. They worked fine together, the vanilla and gardenia, but frankly they seem like 2 friends where the fun loving, extrovert, girl next door is seducing an introverted, cold princess into go some sight seeing together...

Layered with Yves Rocher Vanille Bourbon (vintage): Kudos, because back in time, even cheap (i.e. affordable) fragrances were made with such quality. This is the closest to the actual original bourbon vanilla note in the EL! And the two perfectly complements each other, in harmony...

Layered with Yves Rocher Tendre Jasmin: I think this is my favorite combo over all. Tendre Jasmin dominates the composition, giving such a lovely, sweet and warm edge to the Tuberose Gardenia. The result is very close to the Spanish jasmine I adore, and it is quite realistic... Minty, but not cold and very elegant. I think the orange blossom note in both fragrances loved each other here. This combo seems like a very harmonious marriage.

Frantheone

This must be my favorite perfume ever. I used to wear it as a going out perfume on spring, and when my bottle was empty and I went to repurchase, I was devastated to find out it was discontinued. I quickly replaced it with Gucci Bloom, just to get my tuberose fix, but sadly it's not even close to this. This is so much brighter. It's a classy elegant white flower perfume, an absolute head turner. I understand the comparison, but I find this brighter, more eclectic and classy, but still out there like a Debussy piece for piano. Bloom is darker, more subtle, a bit more generic, sweeter and esoteric, just like an early Lana Del Rey song.
I will have to quote another review I read about another perfume. "They always discontinue the good ones"
PS: Silage was also pretty strong without being overpowering or offensive. Gardenia was prominent and blended so smoothly with the tuberose. If it was a woman it would be a well mannered diva in the 90s dressed in white. I repeat, one of the most beautiful scents I've ever come across.

black_orchid

Do son, Gucci Bloom? Really?

Bgdxo

This is hands down the most realistic non-cloying tuberose/gardenia I have ever smelled. At first spray you get smacked with lilac heavy. But then it softens and dries down to this creamy, tropical, heaven sent, neroli, tuberose, gardenia and jasmine combo that are out of this world. The vanilla must be what makes it seem like every floral was dipped in honey. I absolutely love it. I can smell this for hours after spraying and I get compliments where ever I go. I will always repurchase. To me, it is like a island holiday in a bottle, so its very much a summer sent. Honestly, I gate keep this fragrance. I see some people are not wowed by it but it must be their nose or chemistry. On me, it smells divine.

Woodsnleaven

First impression, the bottle looked decent. I wanted to know what it smell like for real and sprayed...

I didn't expect this smell at all. This does not smell like actual tuberose at all.

All i can smell is the flower "Night queen" and then immediatly a hint of jasmine from the back of the crowd. Then it all got doomed with the smell rose water and Senegalia rugata.

Impression of this sent made me felt like as if am standing at a hindu temple for a moment.

2 hrs now since i tried this perfume i litrally smell like a dried jasmine!!!

I just realised something"I love my Ralph Lauren Romance" more than ever...

LauraAD

Very similar to both Carnal Flower and Moon Bloom, but without the spiciness of Moon Bloom and with more of the slightly menthol edge of CF. Thankfully the gardenia stays in the background, as that has a tendency to give me a headache. Unlike CF, which vanishes from my skin within an hour or so, this has amazing staying power, and holds a decent sillage too. It's smoothly blended and classy, definitely a perfume for a high class evening out; a gala or ball or fancy dinner. I love it, however I prefer Moon Bloom for the white pepper spice it contains so that's my full bottle choice for a tuberose frag, but this is a very close second.

LSAUG

Now I finally get to review something that impressed me, and I will be ordering a full size bottle online since they did not have one at the Estee Lauder counter at Macy's. Private Collection Tuberose/Gardenia is a beautiful fully feminine perfume. It opens w/ a distinct lilac and rosewood. So unique that even my husband was impressed and he is not a white floral lover. The lilac was gently done and pitch perfect the rosewood was a true and beautifully fragrant rosewood. As those notes fade a bit this becomes a soft, lush and perfect gardenia scent. There is a haunting and captivating quality to this scent, it is romantic, feminine, delicate and still heady and lush. I can picture a woman who is wearing an all white flowing gown w/ a single gardenia in her hair. She moves w/ grace and elegance. A woman who wears this perfume is timeless, ageless. The years do not matter, she could be a young woman of 20 or an older woman of 80. This is a beautiful perfume for any woman of any age. If you love white florals like I do and think I don't need another one (and I thought that) give Private Collection Tuberose/Gardenia a try. I think it will surprise you, it did me.

TeachOlfactoryArt

Extremely realistic tropical-style rich, heady, humid gardenia. The closest thing to my real gardenia enfleurage oil.

I thought this was an impressive gardenia from all angles. Not the natural real thing, but a great perfume mimic. However, something about it, an aspect of large mainstream perfume brands I’ve noticed, gives me a scratchy nose and throat. I had to give it away unfortunately. 8/10 for gardenia composition.

A. Rose123

Spectral, haunting, wistfully melancholy. Like something Edwardian, similar in mood to “L’Heure Bleue” but not as intimate.

Fresh, shady, cool, creamy white florals. The lilac is heavily indolic and fatty but very fresh. It smells like there’s nothing in this but every White flower in the world. This is all about big, white flowers and lace.

Almost the fragrance of an untouchable woman, it’s so headily beautiful and distant. It will make a lover feel like closeness is a prize that’s been won.

Dmiddy

Nice…but not spectacular. I will finish my bottle but not repurchase—it just doesn’t have that WOW factor (unlike gardenia/tuberose scents from Dusita, my favorite of the genre). I find myself spraying it periodically throughout the day because it seems to evaporate after a couple of hours.

kirrineyears

I've smelled many so-called gardenia scents, and this is one of my favourites. TG is heady, sweet, and not for the faint-hearted! Fortunately the tuberose doesn't stand out too much. Like in some preceding comments I would agree that: as opposed to being a 'warm' and inviting floral, TG feels cold and clinical. This is not necessarily a bad thing at all, just more of a mood/interpretation. TG is hence probably not suited to all occassions! However, it is beautiful non-the-less. Performance is great. A must try for gardenia fans.

GirlOnFire

I am a fan of both tuberose and gardenia and while objectively this is a nice perfume, it reminds me too much of my mother from whom I am estranged. It’s tinny, cold, sharp, and superficial—like her and her high society gala ladies. Certainly for the price one could find better. I still prefer Chanel Gardénia, Penhaligon’s Gardenia, Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia, Marc Jacobs, Michael by Michael Kors, Jovan Island Gardenia, Coty Jungle Gardenia, Robert Piguet Gardénia, Memo Marfa, Madonna Truth or Dare, etc to this.

This… just doesn’t develop into anything remotely interesting; it is linear. I certainly don’t pick up much else besides the two florals, definitely no vanilla or rosewood or anything. It’s extremely fresh due to the neroli.

Edit: I’m not saying I hate this. I just don’t personally find this worth $180+.

Thai_Florist

I didn't like it the first time I smelled it at the beauty hall in the department store, so when it was discounted more than 50% then I bought it because I love Gardenia and Tuberose, so I have to buy this even though I don't like it but!!!! when I wear it full day this is AMAZING!!!!!! I can smell a super realistic gardenia scent in the middle note when I spray it on my neck but the citrus still floating around my area but I still can smell the gardenia, the most beautiful gardenia which I love soooooooo much! right now I'm going back to the department store today and buying another one... (Incase if you can't find the gardenia in here maybe you stay in a cold weather country but in Thailand we only have summer lol. So please wear it in the hot weather. I promise this is a super realistic gardenia that I found for a long long time and it sat behind the orange blossom!)

MrsYes

I so wanted to find Gardenia here, as Luca Turin promised it's got a real gardenia flower... It's just huge ORANGE FLOWER on me!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭

I cannot say enough great things about this AMAZING - UNIQUE - VERY WHITE FLORAL - SPECTACULAR FRAGRANCE !!!
it is beyond special - gorgeous unique smell - and if you are lucky - and it works with your chemistry - you will receive compliments and people asking you constantly what you are wearing
DO NOT tell them!
it keeps this a special fragrance - and keeps the masses from wearing it - and ruining it's exclusivity
I have been wearing this for 15+ years!
another long standing product I was wearing when I discovered this was the ORIGINAL Michael Kors - and that is still in my collection today - BUT - my favorite today - and will ALWAYS be - Estee Lauder PRIVATE COLLECTION TUBEROSE GARDENIA!!!
try it - you will not regret it!!!

Can'tstopFragranceAddict

I think people dont understand something about this fragrance. It is a white floral, it is all about the fleshy tuberose and dewy gardenia. If you love sweet fragrances like pink sugar no offence you won’t probably like this special lady, she is an acquired taste but it’s not an awful old lady fragrance. White floral fragrances are very particular and not always for everyone but they are some of the most beautiful in the fragrance world. I absolutely love her 10/10

Dashalu

For $170 and the name “private collection” I was expecting to be totally WOWED! ….but I didn’t find it that amazing for the price. This smells like Estée Lauder’s Beautiful Belle’s mother/grandmother. I don’t think this perfume is for a young woman. It’s not bad but there is something very mature in it that didn’t make me feel very youthful while wearing it. My husband agreed that it was more for an older lady but in a good way. If you love tuberose & gardenia you will probably not hate it, and of course it all depends on how you’ll wear it on your skin. There is a note here though that I can’t pinpoint…but it smells very synthetic! It reminds me of leather.. or something new like a new suitcase or the inside of a new car with leather seats. And that note is very strong. I personally don’t enjoy that note and found it to bug me the entire time I wore this. That is pretty much what this perfume was to me: tuberose & gardenia, and that synthetic note. However, even with that note present there is something luxurious about the scent. It’s elegant and expensive nonetheless. I don’t think that it would be offensive to anyone unless they just really hate flowers. Once I smelled Estée’s Beautiful Belle I realized that this was actually how I pictured the tuberose & gardenia to be! So if you want a more youthful tuberose gardenia option without that strong synthetic note, but still has a leathery suede note… try the Beautiful Belle instead!

Longevity is great! A few spritzes and it stays on all day. The bottle is very heavy and sort of clunky.

cheleine

I don’t know exactly what I was expecting, but as someone else mentioned, I was expecting something “more”. Especially knowing that someone as sophisticated as Aerin Lauder wears this as a signature. This is a very VERY simple scent. Not my cup of tea as it is but maybe with a bit of layering I can make this more interesting. It’s still though, a high quality perfume. The most realistic gardenia scent I’ve ever smelled. It’s not creamy, not even a tiny bit sweet (bourbon vanilla where are you?). This is green and fresh(-ish) and floral. That’s it. If you have a gardenia plant in your house, do me a favor and go smell it. This is EXACTLY how this smells like. If this is your vibe, go for it. If you don’t want to smell like a human gardenia plant, please skip this. If you’re a curious perfume junkie as I am, please test first.

moderndandy_swap

I absolutely don't get 'This perfume reminds me of' section and how it is similar to Do Son, Gucci Bloom, etc. To me, this one is VERY similar to Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle, just without 'edgy' controversial twists.

Zethre

I'm really surprised that this doesn't include ylang ylang as one of the notes as that's nearly all I get from this, maybe a bit of gardenia too. I love tuberose, I've tried Carnal Flower, Tubereuse Hedonie, Truth or Dare, Tuberosa, Noix de Tuberose, but I don't really get much tuberose from this one.
It's a nice quality perfume but not quite right for me
Edited to say, this seems to vary a lot based on weather, some days it's utterly gorgeous, most it's meh. Keeping my bottle for the good days when it's wonderful

LaContessina

Well, I was expecting something "More" I don't know what exactly, but for a perfume that price range, I was expecting something really unique.
I am reviewing an old sample from 2008, pre-reformulation. Probably the newer version has been tamed down.
Overpowering, bold, huge floral, where elegance is forgotten. Way too strong!
It opens up metallic and medicinal something like you smell in hospitals. Camphor perhaps.
Luckily this lasts only some moments and then a BIG tuberose-honeysuckle combo starts. There is jasmin and it's very indolic.
Then I smell Gardenia. Gardenia is nice, but it smells exactly the same as in Yves Rocher Pur Desir de Gardenia, (in this case YR makes it less opulent, more wearable and 20 times cheaper, if only it were not dicontinued!).
The gardenia lingers there forever, and the sweet honeysuckle-tuberose combo as well.
And after the first 5 minutes… it triggers my migraine, doesn’t matter if I spray once, half or twice: my brain does not like something in this frag. I do not know why, and who is the culprit, because all these notes generally are inoffensive to me. It can be some fixative or other chemical, who knows.
I can barely smell the base notes (vanilla, where are you?) as it is overpowered by tuberose & gardenia.
It would be a lovely frag, definitely crying out loud “here I am”.
To me, a nice to try but not FB worthy.

BostonScentGuy

This scent definitely offers exactly what it advertises, but does it well! Tuberose is well represented with just a hint of its camphoraceous interesting aspects. I was actually surprised by the realism of the gardenia note. It is not a soliflore and is definitely nestled among other notes, but I definitely detect a very lush, 3D gardenia that captures the waxiness of the blooms, a bit of the skunkyness/blue cheesiness without going overboard. Good bang for your buck as well compared to your average niche white flower bomb!

Aland2020

I blind bought a partial bottle of this many moons ago off eBay and tucked it away in my wardrobe and almost entirely forgot about it, at one point I'd planned to swap it, took it off my haves and never put it back, so I guess in a way I had forgotten about it. Well I'm testing it today and I've decided to change my mind about how I feel about this one. Maybe it's because I'm on a bit of a white floral kick at the moment, but this is so much nicer than I previously thought it was. I'm getting "Kai" vibes off this one, although I have the oil for that and it's much more creamy, slightly tropical. This is tuberose + gardenia, just as it advertises, with a slight green feeling. It's much more "perfumey" than natural, as Estee Lauder is known for their brash floral perfumes, this is no exception. Still, I find it quite pleasant, almost like a cross between Beautiful (much too heady on me) and Pleasures (green and crisp). I don't get lily, jasmine, orange blossom or lilac. I'd say on my chemistry, Tuberose is more prominent than the gardenia, and that is a good thing as Gardenia usually becomes too heady and begins to turn any scent into a buttery mess on my skin. EL has done a wonderful job at creating a white floral dominant fragrance that manages to stay green and crisp, without going in the direction of animalic or indolic, and without losing the integrity of white florals that you expect. I don't think it's worth the money at retail, but if you ever find a bottle around $75-80, and you already know you love scents like this, or EL fragrances in general, I think you'll be quite pleased. As of right now, I know I am, I'll be keeping this around as my beginning of spring white floral, while the ground is still cold and it's too soon to bust out the sunny and tropical tuberoses, but I'm longing for sunshine and flowers to bloom. It's actually working perfectly for that right now, in the middle of winter- I might even wear it again this month. I find that it actually smells more heavenly wafting off of my clothes than when I press my nose to skin. I sprayed it a few times in the same spot to test, then put a sweater on over top and it's giving off a beautiful scent, this may be one I apply on skin, under clothes, or maybe even in my hair.

Balletflowers

I got this last week from Macy’s, 30ml for $51 before tax. I like it. I don’t think it’s anything unique, but a simple decent perfume for gardenia, Tuberose lovers. It doesn’t have the best projection power or silage, it’s definitely a close to the skin scent, but it lasts throughout the day. I wish it was more potent & projected better, especially for the price. I’m glad I got this on sale, I would never pay full price. The prominent note to me is gardenia & that’s my favorite note/flower. I also get hints of Tuberose, lilac & especially Jasmine. I definitely smell all the notes listed except bourbon vanilla? It’s a nice, easy breezy day or night, casual or fancy event scent. I think it would best work during spring/summer, but anytime as well, definitely a subtle signature scent too.

A really affordable, spot on dupe for this is Walmart’s bodycology body spray in Pure White Gardenia! No difference at all to me, I have them sprayed on either hand right now. It only cost about $4.

yiola.al

This was a blind buy according to notes to replace Marc Jacobs gardenia. It didnt.First 10 mins is a bit too much, then it gets creamier and in an hour it smells extactly like the gardenias in my mothers house.
I love it.I dont smell lilac at all just a bit tuberose and creamier gardenia. But the best part is the carnation note.
I never had a perfume with carnations in it.Or rather I never searched for one before.Lasts all day on me.
The only con is that burning feeling that I have with all Estee Lauder fragrances when I spray directly on skin.

ishouldbebetterthanthis

Long ago, wandering the fragrance section of The Bay in downtown Toronto, I spritzed this on myself out of idle curiosity, and was immediately blown away by how utterly gorgeous it smelled. I asked the price, and the saleswoman informed me that she was actually out of bottles, and should not have displayed the tester. Should I steal the tester, I thought? No, the incredible sillage of this gorgeous, round, waxy white floral would have given the police an easy trail to follow.

At home, I looked up the price, thinking I might order a bottle online, and very quickly determined I wasn't rich enough. Until today, two years later, when quarantine caused me to lose my mind! I found a discounted bottle on eBay, and though it still cost way, way more than I should have spent, I couldn't resist.

This is simply stunning. It doesn't progress much from initial spray to fading about 10 hours later. However, during that time it is a perfect cloud of uncomplicated, rich-smelling loveliness.

I don't know if I should be announcing this but I have found a seller on EBay that makes a dupe for this fragrance that is spot on...for about $11 an ounce. One of my good friends wears this fragrance exclusively, the real deal by EL. When I admired it so and she told me how much she paid for it, my jaw hit the ground× Really EL???? I have been using this dupemaster on EBay for quite some time. She has been spot on with quite a few scents I adore but can either no longer find or are way beyond my price range. PM me and I will give you her seller name. She simply calls her dupe for EL's Tuberose Gardenia...Our Version of Tuberose Gardenia. And she makes it in quite a few formulas...perfume oil roll on...lotion...dusting powder (both talc and talc free)...shower gel...home/linen fragrance spray...tart melts...and the list goes on. I am using the body/hand lotion as I write this and it's indescribable, lovely scent is just wafting around the room, and I have just a bit rubbed into my hands. This is some potent stuff.

Camsacci

The most realistic gardenia in my collection! I just LOVE it. it carries greatly, and every time I wear it someone will ask me what it is. The tuberose works wonders in making the gardenia well rounded. If you are a fan of these two notes and love the smell of fresh flowers you should go for it!

ceilstrakna

I am a tuberose fanatic. Last week, I finally bought a sample of EL's offering. Oh, my. This is the closest I have found to the actual scent of a tuberose flower. I haven't smelled one in years, but this is very near to what I remember smelling in my mother's garden.

Now I'm playing with the idea of actually growing some tuberoses in a very warm, sheltered spot in my Maryland garden - where they might just survive the winter with protection. I need something as a reference point!

Estee Lauder's PC Tuberose Gardenia is exquisite - it smells like the expensive fragrance that it is. If you like white flowers, and don't associate them with funerals, this is for you.

kml24

A rich, earthy white floral that has the smell of hot summer nights on a porch in the southeast (US) - the nights when the air is so humid you can taste it, but it's still not a tropical. The smell of gardenia and tuberose carries on the thick night air, surrounding you in a sweet floral with the barest hints of damp rot from the overripe flowers. It's not too indolent, but nicely captures a the real garden flower smell. "A bit strong" says the husband, but oh so luscious. Maybe not best suited for work wear.

audrey99

This is my current perfume.I love all white flowers. This smells of tuberose more than gardenia, but not near as good as Marc Jacobs original from 2002 .This is also my first post! I love fragrantica it is OBSESSIVE!!!I am hunting like crazy for a new perfume though as I don't experience much longevity with this.It is also over priced for what you get.Estee Lauder is disappointing me on many levels including their skincare line. MEH

cocofluff

- This fragrance smells good. The opening is all neroli on me. The middle is where the big floral bomb explodes. This is followed by spicy carnation and vanilla to round out the fragrance.

Fragaddict1111

it was my wedding scent so it's always gonna be the most special one for me. <3

auburnalmond

Aerin Lauder should win an award simply for the fact of being the only one able to compose a fragrance that smells realistically of gardenias! Bravo!

andili

This perfume is beautiful. My mom only likes two perfumes: Ralph Lauren Blue and Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. Of the two, her signature scent is this one and I can easily see why. It smells unapologetically high class. Aerin Lauder created a perfume that is pure white floral; you don't get any sense of musk or powder which would cheapen it.
I had a bottle back in college, this scent gets noticed by friends, classmates, TAs, literally everyone. You get literally chased around with noses sniffing you.
When I wear this perfume, I feel a little bit pretentious or boujee because I feel like I'm not classy enough. But it is perfect for ladies that are successful/intelligent/polished/confident like my mama.

Rosemary14

I finally got to try this today and all I can say is~This is GORGEOUS!! Okay if you are not a floral lover just put this in your “Don’t even try it.” pile. Because this is exactly like putting your face into a bouquet of flowers. It’s fresh cut narcotic florals robust enough to make you dizzy. Something about this reminds me of my childhood. I think it just reminds me of smelling all the flowers in my Grandmother’s yard. I’m getting a lot of Gardenia and Lilac from this. I have a Lilac tree growing in my yard and this fragrance smells just like it. There is also the Gardenia, Tuberose, and Lily of course but Lilac is a VERY strong flower. It’s too much for many people. I put 2 Lilac flowers in a vase alone and you can smell them all over the house. I’m also getting a lot of Lily which is another strong flower. I’m a floral junkie so I really love this heady stuff, but if it was any stronger then it might be too much even for me. There really aren’t any other notes in this besides flowers and a tiny bit of vanilla down at the bottom which is just fine with me. The sillage and longevity on this are fantastic. Those two factors make the price tag much more reasonable IMO. Two sprays are all you need to smell beautiful for 8 to 10 hours. This is going straight to the top on my next perfume splurge list.

katrinawhitney

This one.. it’s something that when I spray it, I feel as though I am surrounded by an air of beauty. It fools me into thinking I am in my best and most beautiful crisp white outfit with gold accents and flawless dewy skin. (Meanwhile it’s 8 am and I’m sitting on my back porch with a coffee looking my least best)
Needless to say, it is not a fragrance I must be in the mood for to wear but a fragrance I put on to change my mood.

thecoffeeslayer

The tuberose blasted out as menthol hard candy right away. The sweet menthol lingered the entire time. In that, it's definitely a tuberose. Usually tuberose will change/develop on me. That did not happen here. That said, the rest of the perfume did morph a little. There was a clumsy battle between the other white florals in this. It was like each floral tried to muffle the other. Carnation won out. It got that odd pricking peaky scent carnation sometimes gets on me. I didn't get much gardenia at all, which was a little bit of a disappointment.

I tried this fragrance 3 times before returning it. It simply felt awkward on me. Like something about my skin chemistry made the notes disagree with each other, rather than blending. I did like the menthol hard candy scent though. :)

oddity: The first 3-4 sprays smelled a little "tinny"/chemical (something to do with the packaging?). But, that cleared away by my 3rd try. I noticed there was another commenter who got the metallic smell. I wonder if that's common? Folks may want to try clearing out the pump before making a judgement call.

LisaandtheWord

mmm, like sniffing a real gardenia bloom! I've always loved the smell of fresh gardenias, they're heavenly. Most gardenia perfumes I've tried smell like the bloom is wilting a bit. I love this Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia! To me, this fragrance is all gardenia, with the rest being a lovely background for that crazy bloom. It has some green but it's smooth not sharp to my nose, the Palisander rosewood was a good idea too.. it and the tuberose + orange blossom seem to help this gardenia be more gardenia-like. I'ts more creamy and lush than Marc Jacobs, or Marc Jacobs Essence, those are real close to the fresh gardenia smell but this one wins the medal. ♥

I also like the feel of this one, it doesn't hit you over the head with Sexy Diva, it's more cheerful and natural in feel than other tuberose perfumes I've tried.

nanah

Instant love. Not sure why it took me so many years to test this on my skin. I immediately bought a couple of bottles and intend to live in Tuberose Gardenia for a while. Very elegant, crisp, radiant white flowers with a citrusy spicy backbone. Abundance of compliments, fit for any occasion. I feel like Harry Fremont took some of his ideas from Cerruti Image and delivered something classy, refined, upscale, but never aloof.

Liliana4245

This fragrance will always remind me of my hotel and travels in Bali.

chinook

An instant love! It opens up with tuberose and gardenia (well what do you know!) with, strangely enough, a hint of calone for some melon-y freshness. The lilac lingers in the background, which reminds me of Aerin's Lilac path, gives the scent an atmosphere of a shaded path in the garden on a bright summer day. I don't get any vanilla at all in the dry down, just greenness of fresh carnation. It's a elegant, versatile spring/summer scent. Projection is moderate.
Edit: the bottle design is one of the most clunky and difficult to use ones ever, and I have the 30ml bottle. I can’t imagine having an 100ml bottle.

mamakatt38

I'm definitely in the minority when it comes to this perfume. I didn't like it, which was shocking to me since I love both Gardenia and tuberose. I thought the scent as a whole smelled tinny, like it had been stored in a tin can instead of the glass bottle it was housed in. Then the lemon topnote stuck around and lingered on my skin , smelling like a lemon household cleaning prduct.I couldn't get past it. It just never seemed to subside. I would have to recommend trying before you buy. Then , there is always the chance I got a bottle that was old and maybe it had turned. I don't know. But good luck to those of you who love it! :)

bellahucollins

This is the perfect summer floral scent. It reminds me of Spring when I was a child, My mum used to put gardenia's from our garden in our bathrooms. It smells exactly how it should- purely of gardenia & tuberose. I bought my bottle when I was in Sorrento in Italy one Summer, so it holds very fond memories for me. It lasts all day on my skin and I can even smell it on my clothes the next few days after initial wear too. Although for some reason this perfume does make me sneeze when I first spray it, the scent is absolutely worth it. It is a very classy floral scent, I always receive compliments when I wear it. Definitely worth the price.

Bubbles1964

This perfume plays back and forth between the two main attractions, both sharing the starring role: gardenia is dominant, then it switches back to tuberose. There's a reason why this perfume is beloved, and I finally can understand the appeal.

I do enjoy Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, but I'm wishing for something more, like an unexpected twist or turn, and this doesn't deliver. It's a straight road from start to finish, just losing a little power along the way.

I'm still on the hunt for a natural smelling gardenia, one of my favorite summer flowers. (I know this scent is created in the lab, but I can still hope for it to be a good dupe)

I'll take this out again with the top down when the summer heat is turned up. If there's anything I've learned over the past couple of years, it's how temperature can effect performance. If I change my opinion I'll report back.

Lovely, but not a masterpiece.

scentralpeace

I've bought Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia, because I was looking for less expensive and longer lasting alternative for Chanel Les Exclusifs Gardenia (EDT or EDP). I was lucky to get 75 ml for the price of 30ml. Now I can say it is not similar to Chanel, which is softer, fruitier and seems more refined to my nose. To me EL is a straightforward GARDENIA... powerful, slightly headache inducing. It almost does not change on me and lasts long on skin and even loner on clothes. I can smell very little of other notes: tuberose of course and a little bit of lilac. So to me this perfume is more close to Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia (minus some very "green" base notes in the latter). I am keeping both for now and probably will use them a lot this summer, but sadly none of them is a substitute to Chanel Les Exclusifs Gardenia. All three "tales of gardenia" are unique and beautiful.

lorna.1

I walked past a woman wearing this and I had to stop and ask her what she is wearing. I instantly loved it. It is so sweet and reminds me of the gardens in Epcot.
The fragrance becomes more complex on my skin after about 20 minutes and sticks around for the whole day.
I think it is a Statement and I have not come across a fragrance as powerful as this on my skin.

MBB1111

This is beautiful.

Although sweet, and not overly so, it is not candy-ish. There is nothing cheap smelling about this perfume at all. It is just classy, bright, and happy. Yet, I could easily wear this on a summer evening special night.

It is fitting for a classy, charming, sophisticated woman who does not take herself too seriously - very Audrey or Katherine Hepburn.

Longevity: 6-8 hrs
Projection: 1 spray and it wafts gently, complimented
For whom and when: for warmer weather, day or night, if you're looking for understated sophistication few else will be wearing

tabitha106

This Estee Lauder white-floral scent is elegant and perfectly blended with a creamy dry down that keeps me loving it spring through summer. I agree with another reviewer who noted that Estee Lauder should be more highly credited for their creations. Personally, I Love the ES products, and this delicious scent is no exception. After trying so many white floral scents--this one has such a lovely composition, it's my all-time favorite. Personally, I love the subtle green notes that peek through in the top. Then the rich rosewood appears throughout out each floral layer keeping the scent rich and grounded. But that creamy blend of vanilla with turberose and gardenia are the bomb!! Exquisitely blended, beautiful white floral scent. Love it!!

missvie

I really enjoy this perfume! I have been looking for a good gardenia scent for awhile and this is it. Strangely enough when i first put it on it smells like melted plastic :( but after about 10 minutes it smells luscious and rich and pretty. The gardenia really comes through for me. This is a perfume I wear at home alone just because it smells so good.

LindaPerfume93

The ex-girlfriend of my father (a very remarkable, successful journalist and business woman who I hold in high regard) just gave me this perfume today. It is her signature fragrance.

I must say I´m astonished by this creation. It captures delicately the essence of my favorite flowers that bloom in springtime... lilac, orange blossom, jasmine... All the notes are perfectly balanced.
This perfume makes me remember the carefree, good times I spend in Seville during a student exchange - it was the middle of April and the scent of blooming orange trees filled the streets of that romantic, Andalusian city.

Private Collection is the finest floral perfume I´ve ever smelled. I´m so happy to have my own bottle. No seller offers this perfume here in the Czech Republic... not even the official Estee Lauder boutique! I can´t understand why.

Olotitan

I wish this had more Gardenia as the tuberose overwhelmed the gardenia...Overall nice nothing in comparison to Estēe Lauder Private collection 1973 Omg Deliciously one of my fav classic scents of all times...
I wished it had more of the private collection signature the original had and mind ya Private collection didn't have gardenia nor tuberose as any notes...this one is very floral, nice and Omg so expensive indeed ridiculous smh!

Perfumista301

I cant seem to find this in my country. If i do its ridiculously priced. So interested in trying this one!

siparati

Adoro le gardenie in questo profumo... Inebriante. Invitante. È troppo forte per indossare più di uno spray, quindi ogni volta che lo indosso lo nascondo dietro le orecchie.

iamoir

I came little late to the gardenia-tuberose party, it's the only thing I regret. Estee Lauder does not receive the recognition and appraisal they should. Their creations worth much more than they already worth.

They're beautiful. So is gardenia-tuberose. They who love true white florals are going to be happy with the scent. If you especially love Diorissimo, you possibly need Gardenia-Tuberose too. For those who love the "idea" of a floral, which is better interpreted in shampooish fruity florals, Gardenia-Tuberose is not a good fit.

Overall this is a love from me. The perfume opens with straight up tuberose, the headache inducing variety, but true intense plummy powdery tuberose which after some minutes unfurls into the main scent of gardenia, on which this perfume focuses. Of course, as everybody knows by now, extracting gardenia oil is not succesful, so with the help of the other notes, the scent of gardenia is reconstructed.

You get good amounts of lily of the valley here. And a clear gardenia, not clean, CLEAR. There is an earthy note and a well measured soily smell to this gardenia. And that metholated note in the background belonging to tuberose; so tuberose is there, it's not really missing. Metallic, green, truly luminous. It's a floral but not completely revealing like J'adore, there is mystery in the scent that is so womanly. With a vintage vibe, a nod to the classics.

A gem
Heaven, heaven, heaven!

Piscean-Blue

When I read "Tuberose Gardenia" I didn't think they meant that literally. Be forewarned, this is not the idyllic sunshiny version of these flowers. The interpretation is more like having the actual petals shoved in your face (and IMO more Gardenia-ish than Tuberosey). Very heady. Very natural smelling.

I strongly agree with the resounding chorus here that it isn't worth the price. At best a full-sized bottle should go for no more than sixty bucks. Yes, the scent is lovely in its own way- but the cost is inexcusable. Highway robbery. You can do way, way better for the over-two-hundred-dollar range.

Do not blind buy! Sample first!

Raevyn

Oh my gosh, yes! I have a few other fragrance tastes, but I am a floral girl through and through. I blame it on the grandmother who wore Joy. :) I bought this on a blind buy and just tried it, and it is the utter immersion in heady floral that I love. It's not overly sweet or overwhelming, it's very well balanced. This one is definitely going into the rotation for those days when I want to feel enveloped in gorgeous floral loveliness!

Illidge

I live in Sydney and gardenia's are in full bloom in my garden and on my front porch as I write this review. The floral smell which wafts out as I walk past smells exactly like this perfume. I always get comments from house visitors on the beautiful gardenia smell when they are in bloom, and now I get comments when I wear this perfume. It smells 100% gardenia to me - without a doubt. I love it!

Smells_Good

Almost 12 hours after testing this in store, I can still smell traces of it. Although now very faint and demure, it bloomed and bloomed throughout the day. I had gone into the store to purchase another perfume but now I want to own this one too. Estėe Lauder is not my favourite perfume house and I know very little about it, but this was beautiful. Like a huge bouquet of freshly blooming highly fragranted flowers. I almost regret my Chanel purchase and wish I had bought this instead.

gardeniapetunia

I adore this, and am not a tuberose fan at all. So, if that's you too, don't let the name keep you away from this beauty, mainly gardenia. Not much tuberose at all. This is no Fracas.

One squirt on my cleavage lasts most of the day and two squirts is overpowering.

Expensive, but everything from the bottle, sillage and longevity makes it a decent enough value for me.

I appreciate the dry down and the slight if not dramatic aroma changes through the day and, of course, the way it smells overall.

Timby

I tried this one on, as I love gardenia and tuberose. I have to agree wholeheartedly with perfumempress. I smell mostly gardenia and nothing else, which is ok but ends up quite one dimensional...and so outrageously overpriced for a one note that can be had for a fraction of the price. Combine this with a longevity of two hours, and the price is even more outrageous.

If it was cheaper, much cheaper, I would buy it for the odd time it struck my fancy.

But at this price...I expect much, much more.

PerfumeEmpress

I got a sample of this from a nice SA. It's ok, but really nothing to write home about. On me, the tuberose - which is what I wanted to smell the most - is barely noticeable. It is a fresh, inoffensive, soapy, way too polite, way too ephemeral scent. And it is ABSURDLY overpriced. I'm not forking out $90-120 for what I consider to be an after-shower splash cologne.

lolah6121

I have been looking for good gardinia cent for a long time until I came a cross this baby when I wear I feel like I am wearing a necklace of real gardinia flowers this is how a garden is perfume should smell like love it 10 out of 10

gtabasso

Utterly gorgeous dry white floral. This is gardenia, lily and tuberose. So fantastic.

Annabear

I first bought this late in 2007 when it was first launched, I think I was in Perth on business. They were celebrating the launch by spraying this on test strips for customers at David Jones and I was so enraptured by the fragrance that I didn't hesitate to purchase the large bottle (around $500) there and then...ouch!
10 years later, I have a little left in the bottle, and it smells as utterly beautiful now as it did then, in fact I am going to replace it. The tuberose is absolutely voluptuous and sillage is extreme. I wore this to a business meeting (I had forgotten I had it on) and when my client walked into the room, she said the whole place smelled like a spring garden. I don't think you can do better than that!
UPDATE
Visited the Estée Lauder outlet store in Sydney today, it's official, Private Collection has been discontinued and they haven't had stock for more than a year. The sales assistant told me the very last bottle of PC had been sold that morning. Not being one to take what's said as set in stone, I repeated my request to the other sales assistant...Turns out she had put a bottle aside for a friend some time ago, and it had never been collected. I bought it, the last bottle of PC Tuberose Gardenia in any Estée Lauder outlet retail store in Sydney...feeling just a little smug and terribly lucky.
DJ's still have stock though in some of their stores.

So, this is a weird one...

I, rather stupidly, forked out blind for the 75ml bottle, on the EL website.

As I love tuberose and have a history of quite liking EL perfumes.

I also admit I rather liked the bottle cap...

Looking at the notes, it looks like a semi upside-down fragrance and that is kind of borne-out when you use it.

Wood in the top notes, but not in the base.

The first thing I get, though and the thing that endures most throughout the entire experience, is seapray.

It's just hugely briny, on me.

I assume it's the lily?

It's like I'm standing in a rather polite, not hugely scented (certainly, not to begin with, anyway) garden, on top of a cliff, by the sea.

I then get a ton of carnation.

I know, very well, what carnation smells like, because in the UK, flower sellers go into all the restaurants and try to pressure the men to buy a carnation for their date!

You then spend the rest of the evening having to carry it around and sniffing it, from time to time.

Fortunately, I quite like (or don't dislike) carnation.

Although, that is certainly not what I was looking for, when I bought this.

I was looking for tuberose.

I'm not getting any tuberose.

Literally, none.

Not sure if I'm getting gardenia?

May be getting a little - there's a slightly mushroomy smell.

But, mostly, it's a slightly sweet, VERY briny, carnation and lily scent, on me.

It's also very polite.

So polite, in fact, it's virtually passive aggressive.

It's what I imagine the cast of Big Little Lies might smell like...

I love that show, but I'm not sure I want to smell like the eBay woman?

I don't dislike it.

In fact, it's quite pretty, if you like carnations and sea spray, with a hint of vanilla (eventually).

But, tuberose it is not - or not yet on me, anyway and I must be about an hour in, by now?

Will update if any ever emerges. :)

Update: So, just over two hours in and I think the faintest hint of tuberose may have (finally) emerged?

Or, at least, a slight, rubbery note has appeared (on one wrist!); which is normally associated with tuberose.

I still can't smell an actual, fully-formed, tuberose note, however and even the rubbery suggestion of one is definitely losing the battle to the, ever-powerful, carnation.

Suomineito

Tuberose gardenia. This is the stuff perfume dreams are made of. In my book this is one of the classics and the longevity is definitely there. If you love strong scents and white flowers, this is for you. A true flowerbomb without sweetness to try to tame it. Just pure perfection that you can smell from afar. Not a skin scent but a Perfume that tells you have arrived. The flower shop pales in comparison. I will definitely get this in future and hope that Estee Lauder never discontinues this.

Englishrose77

Oh, my God, this is GORGEOUS! Such a beautiful, fresh, genuine tuberose gardenia fragrance. I love it. It lasts all day and overnight , and it's so lovely I can't bear to be without it. I wish they would make a bath gel in this fragrance. To die for.

TAP

I think this is an absolutely exquisite interpretation of gardenia and tuberose. It's fresh and multifaceted, lush and voluptious, naturally sweet and creamy, and not at all too heavy, artificial or cloying. A superb quality pure white floral with pleasant sillage and excellent longevity!

Nazl.Nazl

I went to Estee Lauder counter to buy Private Collection 100ml but ends up with a smaller bottle of 30ml of Turberose for the same price. Definitely one of the best perfume; love the fresh and green jasmin scent. jasmin can be overpowering; but in this perfume, they manage to balance the right jasmin smell without the sharpness. Longevity is great.

This perfume smells almost identical to Annick Goutal le Jasmine which is the most precious perfume I have in my collection at the moment.

Definitely worth the money!!!

Nuitdenoel

I love this. I've had my bottle for more than a year and freely admit to hoarding it jealously. PCTG is the only white floral I have in my collection, and honestly, it's the only one I need. The gardenia is sublime, in the truest sense of the word. It is achingly beautiful. After the gardenia fades, a creamy, lush white floral composition takes over. I can't detect the individual flowers at this point, but it is still gorgeous. I do wish the longevity was better. I get about 4 hours before it disappears completely, but my skin notoriously eats fragrances. I don't wear it often, but when I'm in the mood, simply nothing else will do.

MrSoCool

Purchased this as a gift for my Mother for Christmas. Oh! does this smell nice, lovely floral fragrance which I chose to not only smell great but to remind her of her garden which is her pride and joy. It projects really well and it leaves a beautiful scent trail of floral heaven. Longevity is also very well done, you will get some good hours out of this. I'm really glad I can come to Fragrantica and trust the reviewers insights on certain perfumes. Thanks!

mellybabydoll

My favorite, and probably my signature now that I'm 23 and need to get past the younger scents. This feels perfectly ladylike and very put together. A linear composure of quite simply what's written on the bottle - tuberose and gardenia. I don't get any of the other notes, honestly, but I do amp white flowers so maybe that's why.

mysterious_scent

A lovely tuberose/gardenia combination, simple but well-mannered, none of the indole bomb or synthetic headache. It's soft and straightforward, long lasting with a lingering sillage.

SuzanneS

A straight forward tuberose/gardenia scent. Its very linear, lasts a long time, and nice sillage. If you like a more soliflore type perfume, its for you. I wanted a little more complexity than tuberose/gardenia but it is done well

Elsee

Smells absolutely delicious in the fall.

malinkonija

@hi mayosh :)

Tuberose Gardenia has tuberose mostly in its name :) This is much more about gardenia... If you are looking for tuberose, I would definitely suggest Do Son, or Fracas :)

seaside

@mayosh, if you click on "club" at the top of the page, you will see a list of forums. Click on perfume tips (there is one for women and one for men).

You will get many replies if you post your question there.

mayosh

can anybody tell which is the best tuberose perfume , actually ه Confused between the two options the private collection tuberose and gardenia by estee aluder && do son by diptyque so can you help me Which is the best between these two ..thanks

chloeinsummer

This is elegance in a bottle: a floral fragrance done perfectly. There are not enough words to describe how magnificent this fragrance is. The only reason i don't own this right now is because of its hefty price tag!

IceRose

I purchased this recently and am so glad I did, it's so beautiful and elegant and I felt like I was immediately surround by a beautiful fresh bouquet of roses, but not a heavy or cloying smell. A very delicate fragrance with quite a good longevity, which gave me an air of confidence and just made me smile.

A real feel good fragrance and very feminine - a winner in my eyes.

Waltzing Matilda

This is a marriage made in Heaven! Creamy tuberose and vibrant gardenia have been skilfully blended to create a masterpiece. It's long lasting and the sillage is supreme. As a lover of orientals, I'm totally smitten with this superlative floral fragrance. It's pricey - $150 for 30ml, but it gives me such pleasure to experience its beauty. I'll wear it it the warmer months when I want to feel very special.

Norgirl

I have been wearing this a few times for celabration avents latly and the Fruity part i refer to is almost like a Wild strawberry kind of smell mixed with white flowers offcourse , realy realy beautiful And also, not to sharp . Compliment getter for shure . I do find a slight similarity to Elie saab edp in the strawberry fruitynes . The perfumes are not similar at all but have some similaritys at one stage . Glorious and beautiful

Norgirl

This is such a Beautiful Gardenia Tuberose scent .
Lifts the mood up to higher plaises ;) This is perfect for spring time , It has a warm almost blanket kind of feal on my skin , Lingers and swirls around me when i move around and such a people pleaser . I have had sevral people stoping and sniff in the air when i pases and they all goes .mmmm what a divine scent .
I must edmit i have been a bit scared of tuberose and gardenia in the past thinking it did not fit me . But luckely that time has past. Now i can wear this proud and with joy . I would call this a young scent . Many tuberose gardenia scents i feal are for mature style only , But this is for as slightly younger audiense aswell,( not to say that this can only be worn by a specific age..)
To me the florals has a almost fruity touch aswell. it isent screachy or cold to green or to much of anything , its just perfect.

SCBohemian

After searching high and low for a realistic gardenia fragrance, I was thrilled to discover Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia! Such a clean, fresh, linear composition. Similar to Fracas--minus the initial blast of aldehydes. I've fallen madly in love with Tuberose Gardenia! Sillage is moderate & longevity is far above average (7+hours)--can still smell this after several hours on the beach. It seems that perspiration "reactivates" this juice!!

LOVE the versatility of Tuberose Gardenia--perfect for the office or evening wear! A five star stunner! It is no surprise that Luca Turin, biophysicist and perfume critic extraordinaire, gave Tuberose Gardenia one of his very rare five-star ratings :-) Go out and get yourself a bottle of this beauty!

VintageApril

The lady at the Estée Lauder counter talked me into this one back when it launched in 2007. I have never been able to wear EL perfumes--they make me sneeze and/or feel nauseated. But I LOVE gardenias in my garden. I so wanted to love it. Alas, on me the heavy gardenia was past its prime, cloyingly sweet to the point of decay. Please someone explain what EL puts into their scents to sicken me? I recently passed this one over to my mother who is impervious to that EL X-factor. She loves it.

Susjd

Somewhat confused. I just called Estee Lauder website, and they said Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia has NOT been discontinued. One of the reviews on their site said their original TG creme had been replaced with a body lotion/moisturizer.... At any rate, I love EL Tuberose Gardenia! Also a request to other reviewers to compare/contrast other gardenia perfumes. In addition to EL Tuberose Gardenia, I'm currently trying Isabey Gardenia, Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia, and I have a tiny decant of the infamous Jar Jardenia. The last sadly being an enormous mushroom accord with a faint gardenia note, for those of you wondering. (I prefer the proportions to be just the opposite.) Probably just as well, since it is soooo expensive.

sleepy*weasel

I don't wear Lauder very often so this immediately reminded me of Beyond Paradise's ozonic tang. The crystalline effect is common to most Lauder scents, in this case it's icy and very accomplished, much less tuberose than gardenia, although one can smell both. The combination is very well done. The gardenia is good, worlds better than Floris (which I used to like) and probably as good as one can get. It lasts well, and I feel I should be wearing a business suit. A departure from my usual and therefore a treat for my nose! Recommended xx

fyrewoman

I found this at a Neiman Marcus outlet last weekend in the U.S. I was able to sample this on my wrist for the first time and was taken by the blooming gardenia & tuberose basting in the glory of their green-ness. As if almost equal amounts of each flower are present, or it may seem like. Maybe it's just harmony with the right doses of each flower, but i could also detect lily and even a tad of carnation.
This compososition unfolds complexity as each hour passes.

This is not at all sweet. Projection is above moderate and lasted til the next shower with several handwashings along the way.

Overall a sophisticated scent in which almost any sophisticated white floral lover could appreciate.

Addict2Perfume

Estée Lauder’s Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia is gorgeous! Green tuberose, creamy gardenia, and heady jasmine. The lily is very crisp and the orange blossom sweet. I found out that the Private Collection by Estée Lauder has been discontinued and after reading the rave reviews, I figured I would go pick up a bottle before they became unavailable or obscenely priced. It was a nice investment because I love white florals and I will definitely enjoy wearing this!

Marissaluvsscents

This perfume is one of the truest, natural "lei" scents I have smelled. It really smells like you have a lei around your neck! I have smelt it on other people and mistaken it for Jo Malones Orange Blossom (which I love but turns bitter on me). Very fresh!

chanelnumerocinq

Gardenia, tuberose, lilac, jasmine: always a winning combo in my book. Together they smell lush and sweet. There is a hint of freshness.
The spicy dry notes of carnation and lily offset the sweetness with some bitterness. I’m glad for this as it sets this fragrance apart from White Shoulders, another white-floral & lilac bouquet, which I like a lot but can be overwhelmingly sweet. Overall this fragrance is very lovely.
Wearing it I feel quite ladylike and posh. Makes me want to drink tea with white gloves, nice dress, pink lipstick, and pearls.

ntabassum92

I was a bit underwhelmed by this scent - I think I was expecting a little too much. Trying to be objective, so I will say that it is a lovely scent. At first, you get a very animalic orange blossom/neroli, that is very old school and deep and lovely. I just had a hard time appreciating it because I was expecting a burst of real life tuberose. The drydown involves more of the white florals - lily, tuberose, and sweet gardenia - and they are all buttered up by vanilla. I think it smells lovely - but it's a little heavy on the vanilla for me. I wish it was more the natural sweetness of white flowers instead of the heavy sweetness of vanilla. The lily and tuberose are there, but they are somewhat drowning in butter. The search for the perfect gardenia/tuberose scent continues! Also, something about this reminds me of Beyond Paradise.

SelenaSerena

The juiciest tuberose which is so refreshing and invigorating in winter. The sillage is flowery feminine. Lasting power is all day.

joe70062

In childhood, I grew a particular flower called "four o'clock". This perfume smells very similar. It reminds me of a time more innocent. There are better tuberose heavy hitters, Fracas...for example. You have gardenia scents like island Gardenia by Jovan. But I prefer this over any other. The combination is outstanding. Don't miss it!

VanillaTabbyCat1963

Mystica, I am 100% with you!!I think this scent is hands down the purest, most luminous and rich and white floral. I cannot imagine one truer.

My favorite floral to wear. It is such a blessedly glorious sensory experience.

mystica

Nowadays I am truly upset because of the reformulations, since I feel like they put an end to the glorious art of perfume en masse. I don't even feel like writing a review, but I returned for this.

I believe my bottle dates to 2012 or something (at the latest), but the juice is still true to it's core... Estee Lauder's Tuberose Gardenia is almost making me cry tonight, because it is so painstakingly beautiful... It reminds me of lost times. It shines with such a delicate femininity and grace. It oozes such a comforting freshness which puts me instantly at ease.

I discover the orange blossom and neroli merging with the gardenia like never before. A very soft tuberose adds the final touch to the most elegant citrus maybe. And for the first time ever, the bourbon vanilla is detectable to my senses; giving such an innocent sweetness to the composition.

I am ran out of words to describe the sensation, I was so thirsty for something this beautiful. I feel thankful.

andreaszabo

Tuberose and gardenia is full strength, massive as if you walked into a green house full of blooming gardenia and tuberoses.
It's such a pure white floral that I can see it as a wedding essence. The florals are authentic smelling, like the real flower rather than the elevated synthetics. Truly an organic flavor floral, rich, creamy and white.

Puddingcat

I have had compliments from three colleagues at different times of day, one was 8 hours after spraying when I had long since been unable to smell it on myself. Two said I smelt of jasmine. Anyway this perfume is gorgeous and perfect for someone trying to escape the sweet or fruity perfumes amassing the current market.

chanap

As another who owes PCTG a review, this is also a good-bye. Lovely.... This is the sort of rich-lady, luxurious fragrance that should be bought in the spray form -- yes, even if this makes you likely to over-spray -- and decanted (recanted?) into one of those beautiful bottles with a bulb -- so that, when you use it before parties, you get the full experience for special occasions. This is the fragrance you wear to the office holiday party to smell festive, warm, and successful, without alarming, or even surprising, anyone. PCTG is both ladylike enough to wear everyday, and womanly. A lady because little to no indole, she is smooth and sweet. Wearing this, if you hug someone, they will be enveloped in its embrace but not overwhelmed. The sillage is assertive -- moderate to heavy -- but not enormous. Clean, clear, fairly linear; she is modern. This is no old lady fragrance. (White Shoulders for our era, perhaps? Less sweet, less complex, more versatile.) Womanly, because more complexity -- not just an after-bath splash -- this is a sensual perfume. I get neroli in the initial blast, then tuberose's middle notes, not its full range. The gardenia is there but for me its almost hiding, peeking out, part of the afterscent. There is a little powder along the way, so if you are not a fan, do sample. And, alas, this does contain synthetics. So, I let my teen daughter sneak it out of my top drawer for a quick spray before she goes out -- as if I can't tell what she's wearing! PCTG is distinctive. And I love it but can't wear it, or other synthetics, anymore. This is one I'll miss.

gmstrack

This. This is why I sniff all new EL releases. Yes, I realize that Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia was released in 2007; it just took me a while to write the review. PCTG opens with grapy jasmine, green tuberose, and touch of menthol. The jasmine slowly subsides to expose the wonderful tuberose found in La Chasse aux Papillons by L`Artisan Parfumeur—it’s a warm and sunny meadow full of gentle breezes, green grass, and flowers. Next, the tuberose takes a bow and allows the gardenia to take center stage. Clap. Clap. Clap. Nicely done. This is one of the most realistic gardenias I’ve sniffed and it sticks around for a while! In fact, the lactonic gardenia sticks around well into the buttery drydown.

4.5/5 One of my favorite offerings from the EL lineup.

fostermd

As a true tuberose lover it is hard for me to resist the temptation to leave any perfume featuring tuberose unexplored, even though I have my favorites and really don't want to find any new favorites that I HAVE to have. My favorites are Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle and Annick Goutal Tubereuse, and with those a part of my everyday life it's pretty hard for a tuberose perfume to get my attention but this one sure did. In fact my favorite two became my favorite three. First I smelled it at Nieman Marcus on the paper strip since I was not even going to give it any skin time, I just wanted to give it a quick sniff test on the test strip but right away I loved what I smelled. Then once I doused my wrists with it and let the fragrance dry down and develop. I know that it is a women's perfume but I am a firm believer there is no such thing as a women's perfume and a men's perfume. I think that even coming up with the concept was a colossally stupid idea, as if we cannot decide for ourselves what we wish to smell like. With that said, I believe that a lot of the women's fragrances smell much differently when a man wears them, further making them much more masculine than when worn by a woman. As a tuberose and gardenia lover I grow tuberose in my garden and gardenia in my greenhouse so I am very familiar with the exact smell of the live blooms and by so many of the comments on these sites it is very obvious that many of those commenting are not. This perfume is predominantly tuberose with gardenia as a secondary focal point. The many tuberose perfumes exhibit the tuberose scent in very different ways by focusing on different qualities of its scent profile. In this perfume we smell the sweet, creamy, rich floral qualities of tuberose while the wintergreen (salicylate) and camphor aspects of the natural fragrance are present but not emphasized so the tuberose in this perfume is sweeter, creamier and more purely floral with less of the camphor, green, wintergreen notes than the natural live tuberose flower. Also there are the sharp more citrus qualities in addition to the generic white floral contributed by the gardenia. As with most white florals this perfume as very good sillage. In general white florals are not something you wear if you don't want everyone sitting at your table to know you're wearing a white floral perfume. If they say that the orange blossom and other flowers are in there, I trust that they are, but I would be less than totally honest if I said that I can distinctly smell them. I just smell a beautiful rich and decadent tuberose mingled with a crisp, fresh gardenia. I am not sure if this is an eau de parfum but I would imagine it is because it does last a good 6-7 hours on my skin and it is not one of those perfumes that changes much as you wear it. After the first few minutes that is what it is and take it or leave it, that is what it's going to be, and for me it is something great that I could not deny a spot among my top favorite tuberose perfumes. I'm certain that any tuberose, gardenia, or white floral lover will, like I feel, never want to be without a bottle of this. It's a great perfume. Definitely now in MY private collection!

Walking Unicorn

I was out shopping today and stopped by the Estee Lauder counter to smell Private Collection Tuberose and Gardenia. After spraying a generous amount on one of my arms I went out shopping and noticed the gardenia was very prominent. About half an hour later jasmine also became noticeable but I found myself smelling my wrist over and over because there was something else familiar in this scent. Then it hit me, under this big, lush white floral bouquet I smelled remnants of the original Private Collection. I do adore Private Collection, but I also love gardenia and jasmine too, this is everything in one combo collection, and wow what a winner! The notes all blend nicely together into a beautifully, rich fragrance, and the florals stay fresh, moist and dewy throughout the dry down. Just glorious!

MoonSparrow

Never cared for Estee Lauder fragrances before; too bland or too horrible (I'm talking the godawful abomination that is Youth Dew). So in my search for a realistic gardenia fragrance I deliberately overlooked this one, and what a crying shame! I kept seeing recommendation after recommendation touting the virtues of Tuberose Gardenia and finally caved and ordered a sample from amazon.

This is the quintessential realistic gardenia fragrance. Smells just like you plunged your proboscis smack down into that sweet, lush bewitching bloom. I kid you NOT. So many perfumes claim to be gardenia and smell nothing like it. Particularly bad was Van Cleef & Arpel's rendition which left me scratching my head and muttering "What the ...?". Estee Lauder redeemed herself to my nose with this beauty. So many times I crave gardenia and have to abide the long winter to get to spring just so I can walk past a bush and catch a deep whiff of that utterly beguiling fragrance, and now I can have it year-round with this.

I suppose since it is a member of her Private Collection, that means it is discontinued. Fear not, it's available on amazon and I am stocking up!

enigmaticessence

It's doesn't surprise me that Aerin Lauder had the same nose work on this as her other line. They all have a simple, natural elegance, just as this does.

I found this for a reasonable price a while ago, and now must find it again! Gardenia is Spring, and Lauder always exceeds my expectations.

mystica

The epitome of delicate femininity... This could be the best gardenia scent around. The woman wearing this is approachable and classy... and this perfume suits every age group.

EL's Tuberose Gardenia is universal. Otherwise I can't explain how a scent is just as suitable and classy for almost every occassion.

Jmalone84

So first off, the gardenia smacks you in the face a little, and in an effort to get the creamy quality of gardenia I detect a slight rubbery/plastic-y sort of smell.

From arms length away, when you just catch a tiny whiff, you get the impression of quite a lovely, light, sweet, creamy gardenia scent- it is a reasonable mimic of gardenia. But if you stick your nose any closer to your wrist you get full on powdery talcy tuberose which is not something I enjoy.

This one is confusing because I love gardenia and there is a pretty good sense of gardenia from this, but I'm not a rose person at all so that part is bordering on intolerable for me. I can see why many would love this, and I am bordering on like/dislike. I wanted to love this but anything rosey just puts me off. It's a shame because it means I will have to fork out more money and effort to get Van Cleef & Arpels Gardenia Petale as it lacks the tuberose & the gardenia is really convincing.

Lovely but not for me.

edit: someone mentioned a similarity to beyond paradise, & I can see that a little because there is a hint of that same rubbery plastic-yness that I initially detected. But I would NOT say that they are at all alike.

edit: this gardenia once it has dried down a little actually does smell very lovely and is good combined the tuberose, it smells BEAUTIFUL if I don't put my nose right up close to my wrist; this fragrance does need the tuberose to be beautiful & I acknowledge that, but not being a rose person the powdery notes are cloying for me personally.

PS it has dried down considerably, and the icky tuberose has gone, and all that is left is lovely gardenia & lily is making an appearance. I almost love this fragrance.

geekgoddess

This does smell like gardenia, but it is very sheer and quiet, and doesn't smell as good as it did just a few years ago. I'm not sure it the perfume has been reformulated, or if it's just me.

Emcia

This is my absolute favorite perfume of all time! My mom gave me a sample of it years ago and I fell in love. When I smell it, I think of summer nights on the Mediterranean. It gives me butterflies in my stomach! Such a gorgeous fragrance. I wear it only in the heat of summer. Maybe it's just me (I love summer and I love feeling warm air on my body) but I feel like it just can't release its true beauty when it doesn't get the room to breathe. This is the perfume that made me think that I like big white florals, but actually I can't find any others that compare. This is such a transcendental experience!

That's it!I stop searching for the perfect combination!I tested so many gardenias or tuberoses or both,Do Son,Truth or Dare,Fracas,Gardenia Island,Marc Jacobs,Si Belle,Downtown,Tubereuse Crimenelle and others, more or less expensive, but the real balance is here. For my taste of course. And my skin.
All day lasting, high quality, airy, feminine, like a sniff from the actual flower, not sweet, not overpowering, not dizzy heads, not cheap, not anything else but a perfect pair of those two.
For me the search is over.

originaldeftom

I think I have found THE most authentic GARDENIA ever!

At least the very first 20 to 30 minutes are pure GARDENIA bliss and I mean truly and utterly as close as possible authentic real GARDENIA flowers.

Some sharpness from a toothpaste (somehow I do get a honey suckle but it could be the collection of all floral ingredients that seem to create that), the indolic qualities of jasmine, ylang and lilac.

It is utterly beguiling and bewitched!! Irresistible!

However, after the opening fades (half an hour later) the super-hyper-loud tuberose takes over and gives me headache.

If this is the case with you as well, you may wanna try Roja Dove's GARDENIA or even Penhaligon's GARDENIA.

If this fragrance was a woman, it would be MARIA CALLAS or MARIAH CAREY.

DIVA FACTOR 11/10. A MASTERPIECE of a reference Gardenia.

glad57

really gorgeous perfume. i really didn't realize that estee had it like that as i dont like anything really in her collection because they smell cheap and dont last long, but I'm a gucci rush kind of girl but for the pretty white flowers of tuberose and gardenia it was well worth the try, strong fragrance at first but i don't mind that it mellows out. i enjoy big white florals but if you want to take the sweeten it out try just a spray of jessica mcclintock and its lovely but i can still handle this on its own. i purchased the .68 bottle online for 55.00 from macys and its enough to get me through with its good longevity. hubby says it smells clean and fresh. i'll stick with it. i purchased michael kors white and really the smell is much prettier than PCTG but the sillage and longevity suck with MK what a drag and longevity is very important with me. enjoy your blessings today!

Between this and Chanel Gardenia, I am in heaven. This one has a little more depth to it-very much a scent you could wear at night, by candle light, and feel sensuous and alluring. Chanel Gardenia is absolutely gorgeous too, and light enough to wear all day. There is no mistaking what flowers are used. I do smell the tuberose in Private Collection-I think that is what gives it it's depth. I spent the last 2 years searching for the perfect tuberose/ gardenia perfume, and I ended up with quite a few winners. Including Fracas, Elie Saab, and a tiny bottle of a vintage Jungle Gardenia from the early 1970's. They have come a long way.

spotlights

If Fairyland had a scent - this is it.

Musume

This is the most heartbreakingly beautiful gardenia, I don't find tuberose here, in the world, and I'm desolated this is so difficult to find and so incredibly expensive. Oh well, I'll deal with that, but I don't wanna live another spring/summer without this beauty by my side, it's so freakingly smooth, real life scent, like burying your head in a lush gardenia blossom, it smells of vacation, good times, luxury, and happiness in a paradise island. I need it (I need therapy too lol)

Henriette

The name Private Collection brings us to that stupendous chypre of the '70es which at first was so special that only Mrs Estée Lauder could wear it.

Almost nothing of that classy scent remains in this creation, but only speaking about ingredients, of course!!!
The class, the beauty, the style of that primeval Private Collection is still intact in this declination.

What I love the most about this PCTG is the mix between gardenia, jasmine and tuberose, three flowers that I do love and which is so difficult to find together without getting a headache.
Here the mix is accomplished very well: you are embraced by the three without being choked as the citrus notes (neroli above all) underneath them are keeping the giant white flowers from hugging you too tightly.
Sharpness and sweetness have beautifully melt so the composition does not end up being stingy or causing diabethes.

I love it, I find in it hues of Fracas (which is a bit sweeter), hues of Keiko Mecheri Jasmine (which is creamier and with jasmine of course playing the lion's share), hues of Maitre Gantier et Parfumeur Jardin Blanc (which is less green), hues of MGetP Jasmin (which overall is the one I find conceptually more similar to this Estée Lauder creation).

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful indeed.
In these starting of autumn it brightens my days a lot.
Beautiful, beautiful, much more beautiful than the creation bearing the same name by this same house.
Beautiful. Period.

LOVELY

If you are a fan of the type of Gardenia found in Island Gardenia, then I think you might well fall in love with this gorgeous release. An old fashioned floral with grace and beauty!

As another reviewer has noted, however, the current price point is disappointing. I'm going to clutch my bottle of Estee Lauder Beautiful to my breast, and recall that I am one of the truly lucky ones who have enough to eat with some to spare.

That said, I'm still a little sad I didn't snatch up the hugely discounted gift set at Marshalls! ;)

A few years ago I received a sample of this from the EL counter and saved up like mad to buy the smallest bottle. The first time I wore it I had an invitation to a lunch garden party. It was a mild sunny day in October and I was wearing a linen dress. Perfect! So many people asked me about the fragrance and even the taxi driver told me I smelt like his wife! From then on I was very careful to use just a tiny spritz. The sillage is amazing and would probably knock someone out on a hot summer's day. I love wearing this in Spring and early Autumn; it is a crisp and peppery floral that last all day long on me. Like many EL fragrances I loved in the past (White Linen, Private Collection, Alliage) this one is not at all shy!

heatherjtrumbo

After watching a movie the girl sitting next to me in the theater asked me what perfume I was wearing, she said I smelled like Hawaii. The best compliment EVER! This perfume is heavenly and I never get tired of smelling it, I even spray it on my pillows before bed. I am pretty sure this is going to become my signature scent, but I love perfume so I will keep on trying others too.

angel has a problem

I dropped the money. I can't believe it but I did it.

Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia (PC-TG) is, in a word, EXQUISITE.

So many excellent note breakdowns below me, so I'm just going to say this: the 'feel' of this perfume calls to mind flower petals. Soft, delicate, light... but so redolent and... happy-fying! You know when you get a bouquet of flowers and every time you see them or smell them, you can't help the smile? That's what this is for me. A big, beautiful bouquet that makes me smile.

Also, I don't know if this is ignorant of me, but you can't tell me that this stuff doesn't smell like the 300+ dollars you spend on it, lol! Luxury luxury luxury, without that nouveau riche quality I get from Tom Ford and Michael Kors.

Cons:
- The bottle, though absolutely GORGEOUS, is not exactly ergonomic, and can be a little fumbly, as it's so heavy. I keep having mini heart-attacks thinking I'm dropping it. Sheesh.
- The longevity is a little wanting, for what you pay. I get 4-5 hours and then it's a skinscent, which is fine in normative terms, but not after you've spent that much. No ma'am, Estée Lauder.

Overall, I am so taken with this perfume, I can't cope. It makes for a beautiful "special occasions" fragrance, but would do just as well as a signature (if you feel like you're ready to part with a kidney). Hot days, cool days, PC-TG works. Mmmmmm. So goooooood!

P.S. Are we sure there isn't ylang-ylang in this? I'm not sure.

majestic mammy

Anyone who loves high end parfums and beautiful compositions will appreciate this one. It is beautiful and stunning all in good taste. This falls in the ranks of Amouage level beautiful.

wistfulmaiden

The good news is, I recently found several Estee Lauder perfumes which I really like. The bad news is this isn't one of them. OK, I don't like Tuberose or white florals but when I smelled this I literally recoiled. Its just so extremely white floral" reminds me of Faith Hills original.I cant help but think of a bathroom sanitizer spray.
If you like whie florals you will probably love this but if you don't, stay far away.

Spaztic

This is a pleasant easy going fragrance. Good for those who like Tuberose but are afraid to wear it because 90% of the perfumes with Tuberose are silage monsters (I love them anyways!). This would be your "work safe" tuberose.
It actually comes off a little like a really nice hair product (a nice hairspray) on my skin, but that's not a complaint. The people who I had smell my arm really liked it, enough to asked what it was called and where I found it.
It's not super complex (but it doesn't need to be); it's a nice light fragrance for those who love white florals

sniff000

This is by far the best white floral fragrance I ever smelled! It has a moderate sillage, and lasts around 9 hours on my skin. The smell of the flowers are very realistic and natural. Very beautiful and irresistible!

archergirl

Oh, I love this perfume. Gorgeous, lush, ultra-feminine and somehow *round* in shape. Although it's called 'Tuberose Gardenia', for me the first powerful hit is gardenia, rather than tuberose. Some gardenia fragrances can be overpoweringly heavy, or sickly sweet, but this one is rich but light; the tuberose kicks in soon after, distinct from the gardenia and filling out the top end. It also has (on me) a hint of peach and bright white flowers. Neroli is very present in the middle notes, and the dry down goes toward a floral vanilla without ever becoming too sweet. It didn't last terribly long on my skin, so I ended up spraying some on my shirt, where it lasted through a very hot and sweaty day as well as two hours on a train. My BFF got a bottle from her mother as a gift, and I'm trying to figure out a way to wheedle it off of her, as the perfume isn't cheap (my review is based on 'borrowing' some of the BFF's!). But well worth every penny if you like being transported to a tropical beach with swaying palm trees. Just beautiful.

SoCal Gwen

My mistake; I went back to Macy's today, because what I sampled yesterday became AMAZING and lasted over 8 hours! ends up (I didn't know, and wasn't told yesterday) that there is Private Collection, and Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. I apparently sampled the Private collection yesterday. (tried both today.)

PC-TG is very true gardenia scent; too true for me. I like more depth of character in a perfume.

PC is truly grass grass grass the first full hour for me. It then becomes a baby powder scent for another hour, THEN morphs into pure heaven that I can't even describe. Problem is, I'm not going to wait for 2.5-3 hours to get the scent I want, even if it DOES last another 5-6 hours on top of that.

SoCal Gwen

Sad to say that this one does NOT work for me. When I first sprayed it on, all I got was green cut grass. Not the nice summery smell of freshly cut grass...nasty green grass smell. Within 10 minutes, the baby powder scent started to compete with, not compliment, the green grass. Don't get me wrong, when I was in my early 20's when Love's Baby Soft came out, I loved wearing the smell of baby powder. At 62, not so much. After about 30 minutes, the grass was dissipating, and it became more of a strong sweet baby powder, with a hint of something warmer, almost an amber, starting to back it up. At that point, it was almost tolerable, but the baby powder scent just never developed into any particular floral that I could appreciate. On me. It's been an hour and a half; nothing else is developing.

On my skin/with my body chemistry, Michael Kors is FAR superior. I can distinguish the tuberose, the gardenia, even a hint of honeysuckle...and then it finishes to a lovely white floral arrangement. I get NONE of that with Private Collection. :(

nebbe

Really pretty, fresh floral fragrance. Lightly green, sweet. This would be a good choice for events: a friend's wedding or graduation.

For me, I think too pretty for the office and daily use - but I can see lots of other occasions for it. Probably not FB but definitely another decant.

lauren.gonzalez.963

I scored by finding this at Marshalls for $16!! And after wearing it today, I know its going to be a staple this summer! The AC went out where I work, so I was so lucky to work in a hellish environment for 8 hours....and all throughout this perfume was keeping me feeling as fresh as I possibly could. On my skin, the opening smells like tires, but about an hour in, I can smell fresh gardenias for sure, then just a slight touch of tuberose. This is also a great perfume for people that are iffy about tuberose, because I still am, but this is lovely! Lastly, the lasting power is AWESOME! About 8-9 hours and still going, all the while being very gentle as far as sillage considering I was sweating like crazy . Truly a wonderful fresh fragrance!!!

CitrusHead

Very pretty fragrance. This reminds me a little of the original, flowery Estee Lauder Beautiful (the current Beautiful is NOT the same) but this is more dainty. The tuberose is very pretty and does not stand in front or overwhelm. I think Lauder could have called this Private Collection "Gardenia Tuberose" probably because the tuberose is not the fatty, creamy type. It's a more green, gardenia-scented tuberose. The jasmine is also very pretty & blends well.

This is so ladylike & clean. No patchouli nastiness, no musk, no sandalwood, no fruity sweets. Just fresh and pretty white flowers. I can't stop smelling my wrist when I wear this. It lifts my mood & makes me think of sunny days. I think this fragrance works for women of many ages & for any occasion; it's a classic & feminine fragrance. I feel comfortable wearing this with jeans & all dressed up for an evening out.

This is nothing like the tuberose powerhouse "Fracas" & nothing like "Truth or Dare". Fracas has a much creamier tuberose/TOD has creamy but green notes & they both have base notes that stand out; musk & amber. All variations on the tuberose, one of my favorite scents.

chrisndema

I highly anticipated a sample of this and all i can say is i am a little dissapointed. Im a lover of gardenia my very first being Liz taylors which had an artificial note in it but was tolerable. Then of course Kim K first frag was a big gardenia and i have to say after sampling this....... I prefer Kim K. And oh did i mention Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia smells exactly like this and its a fraction of the cost of ELTuberose Gardenia. Longevity gets 5 stars tho.

Eridanshay1

Hooray! I received a full sized bottle of this gem for Mother's Day today. I wore it on the back of my neck and went out to do a bit of work in the garden. The sun & my efforts warmed up the scent. I love it. The white florals don't strangle or choke out the other notes at all. It is a very beautiful scent that smells like a tropical garden & money all at the same time. You get a much "richer" smell than what you pay for with this. If you are on the fence, give it a try...I decided 2 years ago to force myself out of my "gourmand & vanilla's only" niche I was stuck in & branch out to white florals first. I've enjoyed most of them very much & get so many more compliments on my scents now. They must work with my chemistry.
Cheers!

Eridanshay1

This is a beautiful scent. I only have a small vial so have used it sparingly & but it is on my Mother's Day wish list! :)

This smells like a lush garden full of gardenia's and some wafting jasmine to me. The tuberose is very subtle in my opinion, not the dark sultry over-stimulating version that is used in some other perfumes. (Cough, Fracas).

EL perfumes always seem to have a veritable
"thumb-print" if you will, to my nose. I can recognize something about them right off the bat, & I enjoy that about them. This has that EL 1970's sort of vibe to my nose...very much like the Original Private Collection, it smells more complicated than the two notes listed in the name of the scent. Could be a perfect Wedding Day scent!

I am also smelling a bit of lilac, rose & dark earth, some greenery that replicates moss, & LOVE the bourbon base, which sounds odd if not gross to mix with these notes, but it really does ground the whole mess of florals, being quite necessary to the composition.
The dry down has turned a bit sour on my skin, but I am still enjoying it. I feel as though this stayed quite near my skin, and even on this hot Spring day, there was not much silage.
There is also a unique similarity between this and the "EL Very Estee" perfume I recently purchased & reviewed. The latter is at a much lower price point, so if you are looking for something similar, may I suggest Very Estee.
Cheers! xo

FinerThings

One of the nicest tuberose/gardenia perfumes out there. If you are looking for an artful and sophisticated tuberose/gardenia blend, look no further, this is it.

AUNZBOX

High quality of natural gardenia and tuberose note. It smells like fresh floral after the rain. You know this when you grow gardenia in your own garden.

Inamorata

I am a big fan of the Tuberose flower, thus I instantly fell in love with this fragrance from Estee Lauder. Now I am even more exicited that I found at a good price on Strawberry :D

novembertea

I'm gonna skip right to the 1hr drydown - which was pretty much dead flowers on me. Absolutely no sillage, after 1 hr I barely smell it at all. Very disappointing! I wish I was one of the ladies here who found this one to last a long time. Oh well - on goes my search for the perfect white floral!

brt

It's snowing very hard here today and I put on the ELPC Tuberose Gardenia to remind me that spring is on the way. I usually like a warm spicy fragrance on a day like this but it's March, the Yankees are playing a spring training game on TV, and I am gravitating toward Spring & Easter. The sweetness of the gardenia and tuberose is a brave little bloom peeking up from beneath the snow, with it's noble promise of warm breezes and sunny days. It's such a feminine fragrance, all floral to my nose and nothing artificial to it. I remember my mother's Jungle Gardenia and I believe it sparkled where this one sends out a romantic poem of beauty. Very much a woman's fragrance to enjoy all for herself when she so desires. It's one of my favorites for me, myself, and I.

Ioli19

Absolutely adore this one, creamy gardenia at its very best, tuberose takes very much secondary role, which is how I like it. It's got longevity , the only perfume to go past the 4 hour mark on me ever, the sillage is just right, it cheers up my senses and uplifts my mood. Neither too sweet, nor too green, amazing balance.
Classy floral, with presence but not attitude, stylish, serene, gives you a waft now and again and catches you unaware. I think this will be the gold standard in regards to gardenia.
I will always have a back up of this, expensive but worth it!

clickingpenguin

This was an unexpected hit for me. When I first sprayed it, it smelled a little too mature. The florals were very heavy and almost too overwhelming. However, the scent quickly settled down into a beautiful tuberose-gardenia blend that was just strong enough to be noticed. This perfume is so lush and luxurious that I couldn't stop smelling my wrist. It's almost ceremonial, like the perfect wedding day perfume. It's on my list of wedding day perfumes because it would be perfect for a spring wedding. I just love it.

Chris v.V.

I usually sniff my arms to review a fragrance. This time? It's my décolletage. What I'm inhaling when I shove my nose down the top of my sweater is a milky floral that is swoon-worthy!

On initial spray it can be pretty indolic, which is probably a sign that the juice inside is quality. (For me, this is a "pee-ew" stage, but it only lasts a minute.) Ah, but after this: a creamy blend of white flowers! I am not certain what the difference in smell is between gardenia, tuberose and jasmine, because they so often are blended together. So, I'll take reviewers' word for it that the main notes voted are the way they might appear to most people. I DO recognize orange blossom/neroli -- scents I adore -- and they, too, play a part in this gorgeous blend.

Use sparingly! A little will go a long way.

LeahJane1972

On me, this smells almost exactly like my White Shoulders, only stronger. The scents stays stuck in the back of my sinuses. I will stick with WS.

almarie

Unfortunately this smells rotten on me. I hate the tuberose- esque notes. I guess I really don't like much of Estee Lauder scents. Oh well.

aqua76239

If you want to smell like real fresh gardenia flower, go no further than this scent. Its amazing how real this smells. I always thought that I prefer fragrance that smells like real gardenia but now that I have it, I don't think this is for me. Be careful what you wish for...
Despite it named gardenia/tuberose, and containing many other floral notes, I pretty much get heady green gardenia freshly plucked of the bush and nothing else. To me this doesn't smell like Michael Kors because that one is mostly about tuberose and lot sweeter.
I found this in a gift set in TJ Maxx, with large bottle of edt and purse sized for under $40. Considering that deparment store price on this is around a $100(in my area) this is a pretty good deal. However, I am still trying to decided if this is for me.

waterapples

Love this! I'm usually more attracted to spicy orientals but this is beautiful. It reminds me of taking a deep breath of a fresh gardenia. This has good sillage and longevity. Highly recommended!

nastyamason

I finally found a set in my TJMaxx and gave it a try. It started so lovely with a nice balance between notes but later turned into pure power tuberose. It wrapped around my neck and started squeezing. I could not come home fast enough to change my clothes and even after I did, I can still smell it. Headache in a bottle. Not for a blind buy.

Update: I thought I was smelling tuberose which I have difficulties with. However, when I bought Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia, it smelled identical to EL Tuberose Gardenia and made me just as sick. This was a surprise for me, because I always loved body products and candles with gardenia as a main note. But both perfumes were suffocating for me. If you love Tuberose Gardenia, try Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia which is more affordable.

dogmom

Marvelous fragrance!!!!!!!!! And it isn't $300, more like $145, the larger EDP. It is much more delicate than the original PC, which, to me, is a tad more "old fashioned". This tuberose / gardenia is exquisite! I can still smell it at night, after spraying in the morning! And I do NOT have an "experienced nose"...

thatsperf

I really love this perfume. The staying power is amazing. I sprayed the tester on the card and on my coat and could still smell the perfume on my coat for days and on the card for 2 weeks. Beautiful pure white floral that does not smell indolic. I know that there are no frangipani note in the perfume but the scent to my nose reminds me of the scent of the frangipani tree near my old primary school. Too expensive for now but will definitely get it on a discount.

817flowers

I just found this at Marshalls on sale for $39.00. Reg. price there was $49.00. Finally.... it was great to be able to purchase this one that was on my wish list.

nikoleta1

Strong gardenia, white floral, lasting, grown up old style perfume. Can be overwhelming, white petals illuminum or Chanel gardenia are very similar, may be more expensive.

doncol

This was a blind buy should know not to by now - too many mistakes. It is soft and close to the skin on me (thank goodness) as it smells a bit cheap and plastic definitely not worth the price I would prefer Do Son or Annick Goutal or Serge Lutens Tuberose Crim. Having said this someone just walked into my office and said 'you smell really nice' so what do I know (or maybe what do they know). CD Sydney

SayakaP

A gem.

When you're strolling in summer evening, you catch a strong scent of flowers in the air...
Tuberose Gardenia smells exactly like that.

On my skin, it's more like Gardenia Neroli. Tuberose is there, but I get more Neroli.

What amazes me is that this stays White Floral from the top to dry down.
Many other white floral frag I know loses the floral character once they dry down and then become it's base note, like Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk etc... But this one drys down as naturalistic flowers!
How did the perfumer do it?

I've got Michael Kors by Michael Kors. Tuberose Gardenia is similar to it, but Michael Kor is more Tuberose-y, yet less opulent.

*Edit*
I found out that I get more Tuberose in cooler, less humid environment.
Ladies in cooler country can disregard my 'Gardenia Neroli' notion above.
Truely pure and lovely either way, though.

Museumgal

This is a wonderful tuberose/gardenia scent -- fresh and light. Reminds me of a daytime version of Fracas. Strong but not overwhelming white florals -- just a bit indolic. Really lovely. This is a white floral you could wear to work. Great if you like Fracas but it is a bit too strong for you -- it's in a similar vein but lighter, fresher, more for daytime wear.

miss mills

Lordy, fellow Fragrantican Adiro is so generous! Thank you SO much for the sample of this rare and unusual gem. This fragrance (on my skin) is very heady, belt ya up the back of the nostrils chock full of gardenias and neroli with a whack of tuberose backing it up - it feels a little like someone holding the most fragrant bunch of strongly scented flowers, mostly white right up to your nose. It's a very close fragrance, feels like I should be able to actually see where I applied it, it's that syrupy on me.
Maybe my nose has been forever tainted when it comes to tuberose as Fragile by Gaultier has it in truckloads but I just don't get it so much here. Will have to sniff again later today (bummer!). I suspect this one, though I am in love with gardenia flowers - will remain a sample much like L'Heure Bleu for me. I will open it once in a while, try it on, appreciate it but then let it sit. It doesn't need me, this art piece, like L'Heure Bleu, PCTG tells a story entirely its own, not sure it needs anyone to carry it even.

Scout

I received a sample of this some time ago and had never worn it. I was going to reach for Beautiful to wear to a wedding with both daytime and evening events this past weekend. But it was excessively humid where I was and I just couldn't imagine the headache I might give someone who doesn't like Beautiful, so I opted for this instead. What happened is that I gave myself a headache instead.
Visualize if you will a triangle split in half. One side is the gardenia, the other side is the tuberose. At the top you have a meeting point where the two dance as one, but for the most part, they emerge distinctly. That's this fragrance. The unfortunate consequence of this unblended dichotomy is that I mentally oscillated between the two notes, and I nearly got seasick. I'm not kidding. Each whiff I got from this massive projection was different. Inhale *sweet* exhale. Inhale *gardenia* exhale. Inhale *strong* exhale. Inhale *soft* exhale. I literally got dizzy from my own thoughts!
I really didn't get much base, save for some lilac and a tidge of vanilla.
Two ladies did say "Oh gosh you smell good, you smell like the arrival tarmac of a Hawaii vacation. Leis are made of tuberose" but that's about it. A good perfume is when I, not the cologne, smell good. It should be me, not this behemoth on me that's standing out separate from "me." This is just wayyyy too good and stands out on its own for the better part of 8 hours.
When I woke the next morning, it had finally merged with my chemistry and was glorious. The piercing was gone, and I was left with what I'll call a "warm lily" for lack of a better description.
Unfortunately I can't wait 8 hours a day for a drydown....Good thing this was just a sample.

Maathir

Soft elegant perfume but it is so expensive over the budget

ArtzGirl

This fragrance is now available at Macy's - and has such a gorgeous packaging that I want to be able to wear the fragrance, but alas... on my skin - this goes very "plastic-y"... in the early wear. It is almost "headache material" - the kind of thing that you want to dash to the women's restroom and rinse off.

I'll admit, my chemistry is very fickle. What other people love - and can wear well, I can't... and visa versa. The only way that you will know if this works for you, is to try it and wear it. See what this is like on you.

---------

The packaging is truly outstanding. Out of all of the fragrances out today- I really love this packaging. It looks like a distinct work of modern art. The bejeweled golden insignia looks as if it could be worn as a necklace. I love it. I wish that this worked for me, because I love the packaging so much that I'd like to have this sitting in my dressing area! It is stunningly gorgeous, but smells like plastic on my skin the first couple of hours.

After the plastic smell wears down, this is tolerable on my skin... but nothing that draws me in enough to purchase it. This may be something similar to the gold bottle of David Yurman, where you have to wear it awhile to see if this fits you, or not.... but the initial overwhelming plastic smell is not my thing.

Estee Lauder makes so many great fragrances that I can recommend. Beautiful and Knowing are two of my very favorite. This packaging is so pretty that I want to love it as well as the other two, but it doesn't work for me.

healthyvegan

When I wear this on a sunny summer day, I walk around in a cloud of happiness~
(very mood enhancing)

jana.hullinghorst

mmmm.. smells of soft delicious french soap. killer projection! Its clean and beautiful, very high end, upper class fragrance. GORGEOUS. Use the lightest of applications, seriously, it goes a long way. Undeniably for the mature audience, 50's and above. I'm going to get this for my mother as she's a Baton Rouge belle in her mid 60's and adores gardenia. I can imagine the silage being a power house in the Louisiana heat.

butterbean

Today I decided I would splurge on something new. I had my eye on this one - due to the notes, and rave reviews.

To my chagrin - it is way way WAY too similar to Marc Jacobs Marc Jacobs and Diptyque Do Son (of which I own both).

Tuberose Gardenia is gorgeous. At first spray it is has a sharp neroli lilac-y bite to it but give it 15 -20 min and the heart of the fragrance settles in and its truly all tuberose and gardenia. Which is very beautiful.

Longevity is 4-5 hrs.

Again this is so similar to Marc Jacobs Marc Jacobs - can't justify the purchase.

shotsilkrose

More gardenia, but still lovely. Overpriced yes.

ros.aini

This is my signature perfume. i don t know why i love it so so much..but i really love it, i m dying for it!
at first i still remember how all people around me hate it..but as it goes with time, i got many compliments..
And personally, i think its so beautiful, elegent, classy, and smell so pretty. i can imagine mysel as a beautifull queen in the tuberose garden..secret garden palace in rich kingdom. the sillage is enormous, and very long lasting. i think this perfume is just right for some one like me...

Sprayed this today at Sephora. Initially, as expected, you get a perfect balance of tuberose and gardenia. Surprise, surprise....but...wait for it... oh, there it is, the over pungent indole kicks in full force turning what would be a lovely fragrance into a nightmare of decayed flowers. Perhaps fleeting, but I didn't let it kick around to find out. I'm not a fan of really indolic scents.

WHAT HAPPENED?
I first tried this gorgeous Tuberose & Gardenia at Neiman Marcus in winter 2012. I was blown away, and I agree with all of the other positive reviews. Amazingly real gardenia - rubbery, bubble gummy, full. Lovely tuberose as well - very distinct. Very high quality.

I ended up buying PC Jasmine White Moss instead, a difficult decision between the two. The 1oz size came in a beautiful fold-out box.

Then....
Tuberose and Gardenia appreared at Macy's, to my utter delight. Both the 1oz and larger (3.4?) are housed in a regular box. I bought a 1oz on the spot - this was my chance to finally own it!

UTTER DISAPPOINMENT!!
I sprayed and sprayed. ALL DAY. NO longevity at all. I do not have "scent-eating skin." I thought it was maybe the day, maybe I didn't moisturize enough and the scent just didn't cling. Maybe hormones. Unfortunately, it was the same story for the next two days...

I am convinced that Lauder has diluted the formula, changed the box, and allowed a lower-tier store like Macy's (sorry, it's gone south!) to carry it. They know people love it, so why not widen the distribution and make a little more cash??

I am disappointed enough to return it. I will be getting another bottle of the original Private Collection. It is one of the finest perfumes and secret treasures Lauder makes. Hopefully, they won't change this one!!

My mother has wanted this for a long time ever since she sampled it in December. We went to Macy's recently and she fell in love with it again.
Instantly the gardenia and tuberose notes were very prominent- the other notes such as the rosewood are what I believe make this smell more fresh and clear than any other tuberose/gardenia apparent fragrances.

Florence by Tocca has evident gardenia but it has a more of a waxy almost crayon-like smell. Very Hollywood by Michael Kors also has that same smell but it is covered by a fruitier sharpness from the mandarin orange and raspberry. It is not without saying this private collection has it too, but I am starting to realize it is probably the distinguishing scent for gardenia (which I don't enjoy as much as my mother). However the warm vanilla dry down made that waxy smell so much more tolerable because of the high quality that Estee Lauder perfume brings and it actually started to grow on me.

Honestly this is the best tuberose fragrance I have encountered!
What is further amazing about this is that it lasted for many hours. My mother had accidentally spilled her sample in her purse and it lasted for weeks. When I tried it this time, it even lasted after I had washed my hands with soap twice- the same result happened for my mother. Also the sillage was on the heavier side; I would not recommend over spraying this. Although the Tuberose Gardenia is very expensive, I think it is a very luxurious and elegant/classy fragrance with great longevity.
Some similar fragrances would be Michael Kors Michael Kors, but I think EL has better quality.

All I get from this is a heavy indolic gardenia and tuberose bomb. I have a good nose and I have a hard time picking out any other notes in this scent. Not for me. I do not want to smell like a gardenia bush. I have one in my yard if I want that smell.

StinkySally

An absolutely perfect olfactory confection! It is one of my all time top favorites (others being Chanel #5, L'Heure Bleu, Serge Lutens A La Nuit, Caleche and any of the Hermes line, Poeme, etc.). It's sweet and spicy, soft. Like most Estée Lauder, it's superbly blended: they get it right. It's somewhat like Estée. Gorgeous. I put it on when I'm feeling frumpy or especially "light". It's a mood brightening, lovely scent.

Being a tuberose lover (my love for the flower came first, after I discovered the note) I would say this perfume is more about gardenia than about tuberose. That alone makes it a second choice for me but I think this is a subtle composition with Lauder's quality: good materials with good and long lasting dry down. Quite a moderate sillage in this case for my skin. I don't find it loud or showing off at all. It is even sort of cool and distanced. If it is to be consider an angel as some other fragranticans suggest, it should be one with an icy touch. Frozen elegance, strict and severe though beautify with exceptional flowers.

I prefer the edt to the perfume and mainly use it for formal situations in both spring and summer. I wish I had the solid perfume, solid ones give a creamy turn to scents that I'm sure I'll be pretty liking in this case.

This is fantastic! White florals can be difficult to pull off but this is feminine, soft, ethereal and lasts all day. Don't be put off if it appears strong at the very beginning - it just gets more beautiful the longer you wear it! I was taking a break from white florals but this changed my mind. Wonderful!

This edition of Aerin Lauder's homage to her grandmother is as focused as a painted portrait.I get the the feeling that the attention to perfection was a painstakingly careful process.
This is perhaps the truest, most natural repesentation of gardenia I have encountered in a fragrance, and gardenia has the most alluring develoment of all florals on my skin.It is sensuous, heady and carnal. Totally sexy. The other side of coin is that only a small spritz is needed, and you will enjoy this gem until your shower.
I love that this doesn't go through several incarnations before it's drydown, because it's opening is that beautiful.
My only disappointment is, were's the tubeose? My skin has long cheated me out of tuberose, so much that I am not sure if I have ever smelled it at all (Hey, what does Tuberose smell like, anyway???)
I have a sample from Macy's I got a year ago which I have been frugally using to keep the scent in my thoughts. I gradually began to pick up lily of the valley, and a clear, crisp rendition of it as well. It was rapidly becoming the dominant theme that I was sure it was listed in the notes above...
.. So how strange when I suddenly realized when matching up the notes that the perfume has morphed into a full on lilac with lily playing a small supporting role.. and my lovely gardenia pulling a disappearing act! Could thisTuberose Gardenia be a chamelion like the changing seasons, and delude the senses in the same light?
I have always had a strong sentimental connection to lilac, it's been my favorite in a deeply personal way. But it's like wearing my heart on my sleeve, whereas gardenia is a sensuous illusion.
Yes, Tuberose Gardenia is on the pricey side of yes, and I couldn't help but splurge on the largest size. Depending on how it manifests on your skin, it's scent can vary, but it's projection is so true and fresh as a garden is after a spring downpour. Tuberose Gardenia is one more proof that Estee Lauder is a fragrance house of unparalelled creative genius wth quality to match.

This is transparent although noticeable sent. Very spring-like. My skin does not hold perfumes well but this one seems to linger longer. I appreciate sillage in perfumes and this one does not disappoint.
I would recommend it for spring and cooler summer days.

mystica

A truly gorgeous and true/natural smelling floral. I didn't get that artificial or sour note which dominates most white florals. Creamy gardenia dominates... Tuberose and jasmine complete this heavenly creation.
Awesome fragrance with quite high vibrations uplifting your mood...

My husband got this for me for Christmas and I cannot believe my favorite flowers Tuberose & Gardenia are in a little bottle! It came with a small bottle for travel which is great. Quite pricey but worth the uniqueness. One of the few that does NOT make me sneeze when first put on. I am super sensitive and have no problems with this fragrance. Yea!
