Sensuous by Estée Lauder is a Amber Woody fragrance for women. Sensuous was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Annie Buzantian. Top notes are Lily, Jasmine and Magnolia; middle notes are Woodsy Notes, Amber and Ylang-Ylang; base notes are Sandalwood, White Honey, Pepper and Mandarin Orange.

The new fragrance by Estee Lauder – Sensuous, arrives in July 2008. This fragrance is moving the boundaries from already well known Estee Lauder floral notes towards opulent oriental woodsy-amber concept, which will praise the beauty and sensuality of women of all age.

Sensuous is created in cooperation with the nose Annie Buzantian of Firmenich, which composed it of sensual lily notes, magnolia and jasmine petals in the top. The heart brings aromas of molten wood and amber, while the base introduces sandalwood, black pepper, juicy mandarin pulp and honey.

The fragrance will be available as 30ml (1 fl.oz.), 50ml (1.7 fl.oz.) and 100 ml (3.4 fl.oz) EDP, and 15 ml (0.5 fl.oz.) pure perfume, with matching fragrant body care collection.

The bottle draws attention with its simple, yet very elegant lines. It is made of heavy glass with waves, with rose-gold top and name imprinted in purple letters.

This design was selected for several reasons, including the intention of the designers to make it in line with pervious Estee Lauder editions.

The photographs were shot by Craig McDean. The ad faces for Sensuous will be Gwyneth Paltrow, Elizabeth Hurley, Carolyn Murphy and Hilary Rhoda.

Mystères du Château de Dé

I'm a guy and I like Sensuous. I see 50ml bottles everywhere, costing 35-70 USD. I might pick it up. This is a soft and elegant variation on Rumba, which I really like but is very aggressive nowadays. I smell the "white honey" which I suppose refers to a powdery honey aroma rather than pungent and nectary honey.

In its current state, Sensuous seems half a blend, but it projects up to my nose and is very pretty. Maybe a good fragrance to support a fleeting summery Mediterranean cologne water? As is I don't find it strong and rich enough to be a winter fragrance. But again, it smells great.

perfumum

I am a person who finds most perfumes heavy and overpowering. But this one kinda smells like you're just "out of shower ". Gives me clean vibes. I don't smell honey but it's indeed woody, and a little bit flowery that makes it feminine. But i can imagine this perfume being unisex.

It's inoffensive if you spray little, but i still think it's not safe for blind buy as it's not sweet at all and it's woody/ambery, not everyone would like.

Pinja

Sweet musky woods. Thick and heavy, but beautiful in small doses. Radiant without the nowadays common "solar" aspect. Delicious without other gourmand notes than honey. The texture is both smooth and grainy the way Calvin Klein Reveal was grainy. Musk is not mentioned in the notes, but Sensuous smells musky. The marketing campaign with women wearing crisp white shirts was spot on, that's the clothing I'd pair this with. With something clean and fresh and white. You need every element paired with this perfume to be ultra clean and fresh for it to smell beautiful and not turn nasty. So, maby not an easy to wear perfume and maby not for every occasion, but it is wonderful.
Edit: A perfect nude scent, that's what this is.

OH MY GOD. I need to double-check this was the Sensuous I smelled at Macy’s, but I’m pretty sure it is because I remember the timeless, gorgeous bottle. Shades of nude with royal purple detailing. I picked up the bottle on a whim as I was walking by and sprayed just once on my left hand, put it back down then kept on walking. Wasn’t expecting much, since Sensuous Nude seems to be the one everyone loses their shit over. When I brought my hand up to my nose, I could NOT believe what I was smelling. My eyes grew wide in genuine awe. How is this NOT in everybody’s collection?! And like, near the front?! It’s been a few days since I smelled it, but I remember saying out loud to my hubby, “Creamy, sweet in a grown & sexy way, not vintage or mature-smelling like most may assume. Sensuous got the perfect name to describe itself. I’d say it was way ahead of its time. If the OG Sensuous EDP is THIS delicious, and nobody ever talks about it or has it in their collection.. But the long-discontinued Sensuous Nude has all the hype and the stupid high prices.. Well Nude better blow my freaking mind. I really just can’t see Sensuous EDP getting any better, even if it means flankers with a change-up of notes! I’ll be going to their pages and marking them as Want To Try. I really really hope my Macy’s location has them all! I am just dying to know how they reinterpreted this scent but kept it in the family. Actually I’m glad this is so low-key, more for me.

This is an early 2000’s Mom hug. In the best way possible.

LanaDelSlay

You can only understand if u were a child in the 90s but it smells like opening up a huge bronzer powder with a dark blue cover and once it opens there’s a warm sunscreen like powdery smell mixed with a perfume that the person has in the room that is a tiny bit spicy. Igh cant explain it other than this but it unlocks that memory

Elihil

Ten pocit, když jsi zmrzlá na kost a dáš si teplý čaj u krbu..
Nemám ráda zimu a tohle je teplo v dokonalé láhvi, která zahřeje na duši.

Moonbeam28

For those saying this is discontinued, I bought a bottle today at an Estée Lauder department store counter! I worked for Lauder when this launched and loved it then. I still love it now. So warm and just delicious. The very best sandalwood blend, no pickles here!

HippyDippy57

Unfortunately, on me this skips the opening act of florals, and I am left with an amber and sandalwood scent. It's not unpleasant, I was just expecting more from it than I am getting. Sillage is pretty poor but longevity is reasonable. Definitely more of a fall or winter scent. I will wear it but would not purchase again.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

Unlike most on here, I don't really like this fragrance and I consider it a sub par offering from Estée Lauder, especially compared to some of their lovely fragrances like Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche and Tuberose Gardenia.

The lily, jasmine and magnolia in the top notes are completely undetectable to my nostrils unfortunately and this makes me sad, since I love white florals and think that this could have saved this perfume for me.

Instead, Sensuous by Estée Lauder is a very bottom-heavy fragrance and is all about the spicy and woody notes in this. I get this straight away with a very heavy and sticky smelling amber and quite a dry woody smell from the woody notes. Straignt away I can tell that this a more unisex fragrance than a feminine one.

The base is then completely overpowered by the spicy pepper and the soft sandalwood note, the mandarin orange completely undetectable to me. It really is too much of the same thing and I wish that this perfume was lighter. I loved the white honey at the very end of the dry down though and I wish that I got more of this lovely sweet note earlier.

I suggest this fragrance for the cooler weather of fall and winter and for night time outings only. It is a very cold and wintry scent to me and a very serious as opposed to fun loving perfume too. Sillage was strong and its wear time was a whole 11 hours on me.

For the reasons I gave above, I'd only give Sensuous EDP by Estée Lauder a paltry 3.5/10. It's definitely not a safe blind buy for sure and is something that you need to test on your skin first!

pennyligeia

I loved it, so, of course, it's discontinued.
It was beautiful and safe for office wear, soft and comforting. Didn't seem to last too long, but it was perfect for every day office.
So, disappointed they discontinued it.

Flexwithviv

I just got this today from a reseller a small amount was left in the bottle, but that was fine. I was very sceptical because I previously had sensuous nude which I really tried to get into, but the pencil shavings and Woody notes were overwhelming. It’s all i smell on my skin so I had to remove that from my collection and try this.

I am so pleased with this one, and I see what everyone is saying it’s an every day skin sent that will never let you down and you can pick up and put on without much thought I can tell already.

I will come back later after wearing it a few times and elaborate more on the wear :)

(This is so different to sensuous nude I don’t believe it’s even in the same category, it could pass for two different perfumes. I’m not sure why it’s even in the same line)

Ah, I love this one so much. The top notes--supposedly floral, but they're not very prominent on my skin anyway--quickly subside to a supreme sandalwood scent. It makes me think of burying my face in a clean old drawer filled with silken slips. It's woody but never dirty--almost soapy. I think this smells more like a very good luxury sandalwood soap. It lingers beautifully on hats and other woolens, too, in fall and winter, but I also love it in warm weather, as a skin scent. Sensuous EDP still ranks as my all-time favorite EL fragrance, and I love many of them.

Update: I love this scent so, so much, and I love the bottle design, but the lid and sprayer are awful--it doesn't fit on cleanly, and it often makes the nozzle part pop off. It's so frustrating to me that I think I'm going to transfer this to a different atomizer so I don't have to fuss constantly with the ridiculous sprayer (which of course is a nonstandard size--OF COURSE). The perfume is very good, though, and I hope they don't discontinue it like Sensuous Nude. I seldom layer this because I like it so much, but tonight I spilled some on my hands after the stupid nozzle top popped off again, and I find that it layers quite nicely with what I had been wearing before, Nirvana Rose; I think, in fact, that the combination might approximate Sensuous Noir (which I have yet to smell; I have only read the Fragrantica descriptions).

I think in a way Sensuous is somewhat dry and clean smelling, despite being woodsy, and the lingering traces of Nirvana Rose add a little dirt and depth. I'm not sure I'll ever do it again on purpose, but as perfume mishaps go, this is one of the less catastrophic ones.

Update: I still hate the way the sprayer fits, but I do so love the fragrance. If it gets discontinued, I will be bummed.

Update: I just checked the website, and it's discontinued! What could Aerin Lauder possibly be thinking? Does she imagine that everyone just wants her super expensive fancy Guerlain-priced offerings and not the good perfumes at good prices that made her mother's brand? I have a large bottle in my refrigerator that's about 75% full and a backup bottle on the way (which I hope isn't a poor reformulation), but in the meantime I'm going to be looking for a good substitute for the future. Sigh. Open to hearing suggestions if you have any.

Update: I think the reformulations are a lot weaker than the original formulation, but it's also possible that I'm getting noseblind to this as a skinscent. I think I am going to decant some of this for friends and get their opinion before I tell them what this is. I have always thought Sensuous was an outlier among the Estee Lauder fragrances, and I can't say I'm surprised it was discontinued, even though I'm very sorry. It seems like the reformulations that I have are a bit skimpy on some of the lily topnotes, too, although the drydown is about the same (only fainter). I might end up layering the reformulations, nothing I would have ever even considered doing with the original iteration.

rene.saller

How have I not reviewed this one? It's my favorite Estee Lauder fragrance of all, and one of my top ten perfumes. Usually I go for florals, and Sensuous barely has any obvious floral notes. I love the sandalwood base--the most dominant scent for me on the drydown--and if there's musk, it's a clean one. The scent is very clean in general, with nice woody (cedar?) notes, and it smells wonderful on sheets and hats and lingerie. I hope it hasn't been discontinued. I keep my bottle in the refrigerator in its box to keep it from turning, just in case. The only drawback is the name, which I think is way too on the nose, but that's often the case for Estee Lauder perfumes.

Lovescents3

This is comforting and inoffensive.
Powdery aspects and smooth woods on my skin. Also gives creamy lotion vibes. I don’t get a lot of the florals.
Great for out of the shower or to wear on a day when you want a low key scent. It feels enveloping, like a hug. Definitely brings to mind “your skin but better” idea.

suzanne_ronald

Soft OOZE of HONEY-SANDALWOOD. Opens with a softly sweet floral burst with woody & warm-spicy nuances (with reminders of Adam Levine For Women), that deepens into a rich woody amber heart with creamy yellow floral nuances, all resting on a honey-sandalwood base with peppery & faint mandarin touches. Above average performance.

Contrast to Adam Levine For Women:
These are different but there are some similarities in the ALFW has a much bolder approach with aromatic touches. Sensuous starts softer, building momentum, and dries down with more honey and a smoother approach. ALFW projects better in the opening, but both have good longevity.

Overall: Beautiful and easy to wear scent profile, with above average performance, this is the perfect scent to wear for connecting with your sensual side. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

ava96

The name is spot on - this is a very sensuous perfume. Creamy, slightly sweet, slightly woody, slightly floral. There isn't one note that takes over.
I find it a very comforting scent, but am not yet 100% sure if it's "me" or if I just enjoy the scent but would prefer it on someone else. It's almost motherly in a way.
Edit: Maybe I made a mistake, but I sold this on. It was just not my scent, though I think I would have really enjoyed it on someone else, for example my mom or a dear friend. It has a very cozy comforting feeling to it, but I just didn't identify with it at all.

suile1

Very well balanced, comfort scent - not too much of anything, just the right amounts of sweet, woody, powdery, light floral. Sits close to the skin, lasts and lasts. Back in production and available on EL online and in stores.

CaliBlonde

Love at first sniff ~~
Starts out a bit powdery (slightly reminiscent of Chanel Coco edt), but it quickly becomes a beautiful creamy sandalwood with a touch ylang ylang and honey. Very feminine & luxurious feeling sandalwood. 🪵🍯

Definitely holds up to niche scents, don’t avoid this because it’s designer! I would never have thought to test this out. I happened to randomly spray some on while at the mall… I got half way home and made a U-turn to go back.

Longevity is great, and it’s strong. One or two sprays and I’m able to smell it all day. Stays on clothes until wash. It won’t fill a room, but you’ll have a long-lasting personal bubble.

saho93

I wasn’t sure I would like this. But I decided to try it, and I was pleasantly surprised. There is a hint of powderiness, slightly soft but at the same time strong. Maybe alluring. I like that it is not loud, soapy, screechy. It has its unique presence that shines in a way that kind of feels aloof but in a cool way. I am really liking it.

Yussra smki

For me it’s a mature perfume suitable for a woman in her 40’s or 50’s, it’s a sweet perfume ( it has honey ).

SandyToess

Wow, this is so sooo similar to Adam Levine, which I also own. This one is more creamy sandalwood, whereas Adam's is more vanilla forward sandalwood. The difference is really VERY subtle. If you're on a budget definitely go for Adam Levine, the average people won't tell the difference. Unless you are a connoisseur, then maybe worth spending more on Este. I would be repurchasing AL in the future, for sure (£8 for 100ml!), it's one of the cheapie gems.

gbrainy

Reminds me of my college years around 2010-2012. I still spritz it on when I want to have fond holiday memories. I usually don't like notes of pepper but this one does have pepper that is pleasant. It has a floral-vanilla-woodsy scent to it that I can't really attest to any time of the year but winter comes to mind simply because that is when I wore it a lot. It has a maturity to it that made me feel more elegant but does not feel old. Certainly would get a lot of compliments on it.

granny54

I just got a sample of this yesterday at Dillards. The SA told me they had heard a rumor that it was discontinued and they thought they had just a few remaining bottles. They have since received a whole new supply. That's good, because I think I like it. 😊 It's very woody!

Tintalle

I first wore Sensuous when I was in my early twenties, upon it's release. It was one of the few fragrances I owned when I was young. I was still a tobacco smoker then, and inasmuch as something can be harmonious with cigarette smoke, this fragrance was.

When I read on Fragrantica that it was not discontinued, I bought a bottle.

I can see how both this fragrance and White Linen are from the same house, even though separated by many years and different perfumers. Lamentably, White Linen does not go with my chemistry. I can successfully wear Sensuous sometimes but other times it doesn't suit me.

Sensuous definitely has an element of pencil shavings, but it's still very elegant. I am surprised by how much I like the mandarin note because that isn't usually something I am interested in. I do also like the pepper in it, although that might be part of what doesn't always smell right on me.

While I do genuinely still like this fragrance over all, I suspect I will prefer it in warmer weather, oddly enough.

Heatherlaurenw

Woody and sweet, but undeniably feminine. The jasmine and lily notes dry down to add a layer of powderyness in this otherwise quite intense mix of amber and woods.

To be entirely honest, I hate the way this smells when first sprayed. Far too grandma-esque... but it dries down to something so magnificent that I keep reaching for it anyways.

LSAUG

I talked to an Estee Lauder rep at a Macy's counter this spring, in March it was. Anyway, she told me that Estee Lauder had no intentions of discontinuing Sensuous and were going to bring it back this fall. The problem was they couldn't get the glass to make the bottles. The pandemic messed up the supply chain for the type of rose-colored glass they use. The Rep also told me it continues to be one of their bestselling perfumes. It should be because it is a real winner in my book!

BonnieLeeH

I was so happy to find out Estée Lauder is bringing Sensuous back! This was a long time favorite. I have a back up bottle and several bottles of the dry oil spray from several years ago.

Estée Lauder website will have it available in 2 weeks.

joyjoy

Don’t come at me but I’m almost certain this is indeed discontinued. I’m sure you can still find bottles rn but it’s no longer available on EL’s website.

I wish Fragrantica had a notation at the top of each page that read In Production/No Longer in Production or something to that effect.

EDIT-Well never mind (I hope) given the info in the 2 most recent reviews above mine. It’s strange that EL wouldn’t just leave it up on their website and say out of stock or back ordered or something. Does that mean the White Linen powder is coming back?! I doubt it. I wish I’d been smarter & bought up some & also Chanel, Opium…powders.

I see it’s now on the website (end Sept.) saying it will ship in 1-2 weeks.

Nurse_Ratchet_82

One of my all time favorites. Great for layering. It smells like clean laundry and a warm hug. Beautiful woodsy amber fragrance that is perfect for autumn and cozy days. Only negative is I get plastic notes upon application that evaporates in about an hour.

AMMILLER

Tried this at a Macy's counter and LOVED it. When I have extra cash I'll probably get one. Woody but not masculine, this just smells good. Calming and sophisticated. It's a love.

BeatriceSalBus

I started my fragrance collection with this one so it will always hold a special place in my heart. One of the few woody fragrances marketed solely towards women and done well. I usually don't like honey as a fragrance note but it's blended so well with the other notes that I'm not bothered by it.

This is my work fragrance but it really is suited for almost any occasion and season except for very hot summer days or very cold winter nights. This would make an excellent signature scent as well.

I'm not sure if this has been discontinued? I'm noticing this is becoming harder to find in the Netherlands so I've been careful with my bottle since I want to treasure this for as long as possible.

Edemay

This perfume smells like a warm hug from mum
In the best way possible!!!

@ladyofwinter
I dont think its discontinued, its still available on their website

ladyofwinter

Such a unique, feminine scent! It is so different to any other perfume, I don't know anything that smells similar! The notes make up an elegant feminine scent without being floral. It isn't too spicy, and the honey and amber notes aren't overwhelming. The dry-down has a soft and powdery accent.

I started using it as soon as it came out in 2008, I do not care for the trendy scents released within the past 10 years. Estee Lauder, why did you discontinue this?

Lasts absolutely ages!
In my opinion, it is best for warm summer days, the warmth really releases the full potential of this scent.

wondervalley666

A bit too mature for my tastes. It's a nice scent, faint, gentle, but the woody notes/sandalwood are bit too strong and I think are what's giving it a bit too much of a mature vibe for me. I do like a lot of newer woody/sandalwood scents that have been popular over the past 10+ yrs, but something about the way this is mixed makes me feel like it's a vintage perfume, and not in a way that I can pull off. It gets more powdery as it dries down, I think the mature sandalwood/woody notes, mixed with the powder and honey is what's throwing me off. I almost feel like this is a bit masculine. I'm not getting any florals standing out, nor any orange. As it continues to dry down, I almost feel like it smells like a powder makeup compact or bottle of foundation used to smell in the 90s and early 00's. Not iris/orris/designer makeup, more like the drugstore powdery musky woody smell. That smell was not anything I'd ever choose, it really clashes with my body chemistry and smells like what I grew up thinking women ages 35-60 smelled like. Now that I'm in that age bracket, I don't want to smell like my mom and aunts did growing up. Luckily I managed to score a half ounce mini for a great value, because I'd be reselling if I splurged on a discontinued full bottle. The dry down is more of a faint warm powdery skin scent which smells a bit better, but not special/transformative/addictive the way I prefer my scents.

Eva Behari

Sensous has been discontinued. Such a pitty!

SailorV

Such a beautiful musky honey sandalwood blend. When I first tried this I knew it was supposed to have a honey note, but I didn't remember that the notes list explicitly stated it was a white honey note. But I still noticed that it smelled like opaque, creamy white honey, so I'd say they really nailed it! Honey is a hit-or-miss note for me, sometimes it's great and sometimes really horrible. In Sensuous it's dreamy!
The sandalwood is the warm, milky kind and makes for a beautiful base. Over that lies a dusting of tingly black pepper to spice things up. I also find the florals quite noticeable, the creaminess of fresh white lilies and the tropical airiness of ylang ylang add more life and femininity to this scent. Mandarin nectar is another nice uplifting touch.
I definitely smell some unlisted musk here, which makes the scent very skin-like and, well, sensuous, but this is not a powdery musk bomb like Sensuous Nude was on me.
All in all this is a perfect everyday scent, subtle but never boring.

I like this much better than Adam Levine's fragrance, which is also nice, but has a funky tagetes note instead of the lovely creamy florals in this one.

the_proust_effect

This has a funny opening - like those cola gummy candies - but I kind of love it. The drydown is such a smooth, creamy, softly spicy, mildly floral sandalwood, reminiscent of Santal Blush by Tom Ford (one of my favorite fragrances ever). I was thrilled to find something that resembled Santal Blush without the exorbitant price. Alas, I fell in love with this just to discover it's discontinued, because of course. It makes me wonder if new regulations were recently enforced regarding certain ingredients in perfume, because it seems like more than usual are being discontinued and reformulated.

Eagleslover

What have you done Estee Lauder? Sensuous is one of a kind. It's soft, sexy and unique. Why would you discontinue something with proven performance much like Azuree? I fell in love with this scent when it was first introduced and have purchased Nude and Noir as well. It will grab the nose of a man like no other scent I've worn. Please do not fall prey to this viral trend of pushing out fragrances for the masses that have no substance. I will be hunting this down like my life is as stake because it really and truly is a one of kind scent for me. Keep you BR540 and Delina overpriced fragrances. I prefer scents that stand the test of time because they cannot be copied and they never were meant to be. 10/10

bintTapputi

On me this dries down very powdery and dusty. Not sure if I really can see anything I like about it at all. It's not repulsive, but it's genuinely not for me. 4/10

Groovymarlin

Very pretty, softly spicy scent. Amber, sandalwood, that ylang-ylang -- yum! It seems to come and go, for a while I thought it had been discontinued but then every now and then it pops up again. I highly recommend the body lotion, actually. I used to use it as a hand cream and without fail, people would ask me what I was wearing because I smelled so good!

GoddessNose

Sensuous has been my favorite perfume since I discovered it between 2008-2010. I've had several bottles of it. However, my last large purchase (more than one bottle) from Estée Lauder directly, was a disappointment. I think they must have sourced different ingredients in the last batch. It no longer has that deep sexy, Ylang Ylang and Jasmine woody scent. It is much more of a sharp Amber scent.

I hope the next batch is able to duplicate the original. Sadly, you cannot return fragrance after opening the bottle and trying the scent during the pandemic. Store clerks have asked if I purchased from an unauthorized seller, but no! It was from Estee. I think I should stick to Macy's in the future, where I purchased my first 2 bottles.

*Please bring back the original ingredients, Estee Lauder.*

Enchanted77

I have well over 100 fragrances in my collection and I can honestly say “Sensuous” smells nothing like anything else I have or have smelled. I fell in love with it when it was first released. Gwyneth Paltrow was the spokesperson/model for it. I do love this one but it’s definitely not one that should be blind bought. It’s a spicy amber fragrance that you definitely don’t want to overspray. It’s best when worn as a subtle scent. Although it’s worthy of a signature fragrance, and was mine when it was first introduced (I’m on my 2nd bottle), Sensuous is now a fragrance I have to be in the mood for, which is typically during the Fall/Winter months.

shalimaraddict

It seems like this has been discontinued. It’s not on EL’s website. Pity. It’s a great scent!

SweetJhane

I love this perfume above all others. It seems like a scent I’ve known since before I was born. So very perfectly beautiful, the air I choose to breathe.

Lemxx

This scent is quite sophisticated! It has a strong flowery opening then it becomes more powdery and little bit sweet but still creamy and powdery. On my skin I get rose when I smell it. Rose is not on the notes but I do smell powdery old-fashioned rose!!

Margoose

I almost feel sorry for people who don’t find this fragrance niche or challenging enough. It’s kind of like listening to cinephiles who refuse to watch any movies made by large studios because they’re “too commercial” - a sure way to miss out on some good, clean fun. Sensuous an expertly blended, mass appealing, yet still unique scent. I have yet to come across a dupe since it has been discontinued, and I’ve been looking! estée lauder has always been the queen of the crowd-pleasing fragrance. As soon as you allow yourself to buy in (and your ego to chill) you’ll probably enjoy a warm, grown up fragrance. No photorealistic wood or clean notes to pick out. This thing is blended to become a scent all its own. It’s not “sandalwood, honey, and floral”, it’s Sensuous! For this reason, it’s hard to describe. There’s a powdery quality, but it’s not “baby powder” or “cosmetic powder”, it’s a little spicier and with more depth. Looking for a niche fragrance? Go to a niche house. Honestly, we get it. Looking for something inoffensive, not overtly floral, slightly sweet, slightly spicy, and comforting? This may fit the bill. And like I said, I wouldn’t characterize this a boring, it’s layered and blended in an old-school perfumery way, so it will smell different that most contemporary fragrances. And maybe if you flatten it out, it’ll smell somewhat, kind of, maybe a little like a fragrance some adult in your life once wore (i feel like EL fragrances have a kind of DNA that evokes each other). Once you adjust your expectations, I can see very little reason why someone would detest this fragrance other than some olfactory association. It’s quite lovely for what it is.

Kathryn J.

Why did I wait so long to wear this? It might be in my top five. It could be unisex, as it’s not overly “girly-floral.” I find it lasts a long while and I get whiffs of it all day. It is a grown person’s perfume. Even though I don’t wear fur, I imagine a fur coat that smells of this perfume. It’s smooth and rich-smelling. No harshness or screechiness. It’s just yummy. I’d say if you like the notes, it’s a good blind buy.

I’ve always wanted to test drive Sensuous. Promising opening, but 20 minutes later my hopes are cancelled. Not a bad mainstream fragrance, but overall too synthetic and unnatural for my palette.

monicaaooo

I recently came down the stairs after over spraying this and my sister asked why I smelt like baby powder? This is actually the first "adult" perfume I ever owned. My mom took me to a department store when I was 12 and somehow the saleswoman convinced us this was a perfume suitable for a preteen. I loved it back then and over 10 years later, I have a new found appreciation for it. It's not a sexy type of sensuous, more of an intimate lets keep moving closer to each other on the couch as we get to know each other type. I don't normally like honey scents but this one is done really well. I know cinnamon isn't listed, but I get that too. Surprisingly the sandalwood and I get along well. I like wearing this on cooler days where I can just lounge around.

karinatfragrantica

Dry woody. The sandalwood is dominant but it is not creamy but rather dusty. I find it a bit boring.

LSAUG

I got a sample of this one not expecting much but damn was I wrong! I went right away and ordered 2 bottles since I had heard it has been discontinued. This is very sensuous indeed! The florals, woody notes, pepper and honey are all blended together beautifully to create a very sensual spicy, sweet, and musky perfume. I wish I had sampled this years ago or blind bought a bottle of this instead of blind buying Cinnabar and Spellbound. This one is far superior to those. It has the seductive quality that I was looking for in those 2 but didn't find. Cinnabar is going to be used as air freshener and Spellbound for daytime wear. My husband went crazy for this one so ladies if you are looking for a perfume that your man will really love on you give this sexy and very "Sensuous" perfume a try. It can be had for a steal!

avekenny

Heady mix of honey, wood, magnolia and amber. I wear this delectable fragrance only around people I love, mostly at home, and often to bed. Feels like a hug from your mum, sweet milky breath from the warm newborn bundle against your chest, kiss of your lover on the nape of your neck...

gigijolie

Love it. Too bad it's been discontinued.

renashepet

I had really high hopes for this - on paper its everything that I like. Unfortunately, I found it a bit boring - which of course doesn't mean it's a bad perfume - it's actually really lovely, just not for me.

I have a barely used bottle up for sale/trade - please message me if you want it (I also have Sensuous Nude up for grabs) - based in Canada.

judybikmeit

Chanel 19 Poudre drydown. 😮

Hunnynpink

I love perfume but I can't appreciate the blend of magnolia lilly amber and wood, it's a vintage floral vibe on my skin.

Ladyceramic

I can understand why some reviewers compare this to a hug! That’s coz it has a very grandma-ish vibe. This definitely reminded me of my grandma. It has a very 90s feel to it. But it totally works in today’s era considering sandalwood is becoming a thing all over again. I smell a very powdery sandalwood. That’s about it. But I enjoy wearing this. I do find myself reaching out to wear this more often as compared to some of my more sexy modern fragrances. This shines when layered with a vanilla or musk fragrance! (Think bath and body work warm vanilla sugar)

Edit: recently I tried bath and body works sunrise woods and it smells almost exactly the same as this but watered down.
That said the sillage on this isn’t great and the wear is about 3-4 hours. A bit disappointing as it’s such a lovely fragrance and not the kind you can find around…

Luckyed

Love love love

This is my main work scent from October to January.

I actually ordered this the first time because I needed a purchase to get a discount on makeup. I had already tried the Modern Muse line so picked this. On its arrival I was initially underwhelmed as I found it very simple and linear but I started wearing it to work and discovered it really is beautiful.

The sandalwood is a very dry and aromatic cinnamon scent with an overlying powdery gourmand sweetness from the honey. There isn’t much more to it but I don’t get bored if it.

Moderate silage for the first couple of hours and very good longevity as I can catch whiffs of it all day and clearly smell it on my skin in the evening.

JasminePetal

I am in such luck. I got this blind on a discount online based on the notes mentioned here and the reviews. I knew it couldn't be a miss and it's even better than I thought it would be! Absolutely stunning scent, very warm, bit spicy, sensual flowers, honey, bit powdery and woody. I see an autumn day with the trees in full color spectrum, a wood fire, a tea with honey, some late summer blooms, and some dried spices fresh from the market. It gives off such softness, like a safe cocoon I would like to hibernate in. It is probably not something to stand out or turn heads, or maybe in its elegance it is.

faubel

Love this. Soft, slightly sweet, woods over a tasteful vanilla-honey-esque accord.

Most of the perfumes in the "people who like this also like" section above are ones that are a bit harsh for me, although I do enjoy Hypnotic Poison and Dior Addict in small doses from time to time. This might have been the scent that got me into sandalwood, but when I moved 6 years ago, my mini of this got packed away with some samples and I just now dug it out.

I've been chasing niche sandalwoods for a while, and although I don't think I'd mistake this for niche or indie in a blind test, it's very enjoyable. The woody accord smells rather stark to me, and stands out from the rest of the scent. Then there's the mildly sweet, vanilla-ish base, which doesn't smell luxurious but it doesn't smell cheap either.

The previous reviewer mentioned Organza Indecence. I have a vintage bottle that I bought with just 10ml or so left in it so I could try it out. Organza Indecence is stunningly beautiful to me. Rich, dense, luxurious, very sweet without being cloying. Sensuous hits me as a lot airier, and the vanilla thinner. So in that way I find the vibe pretty different, but I love them both. I do feel that they are both comforting scents.

dorotaloveslifexoxo

Well this is just simply STUNNING.

I am so surprised; I owned Sensuous Nude and that one was just a bit "sad" smelling for me; melancholic, dry, powdery and without the kick it needed to make it cheer up a bit. But I did miss it somewhat after selling it so I decided to buy the original to try my luck with a variation of notes and the original of that flanker.

Well. I am hit with the most beautiful aroma, reminiscent of the 90s "gourmands", spicy, full bodied, voluptuous, warm and never hitting that foody note, only hinting at something edible.

This a masterpiece blend and I will just note what I smell here without looking at the notes: honey, warm amber, cinnamon, pot pourri, something powdery, something christmasy almost but at the same time very intimate and warm skin like. It is an older soul, definitely and I can understand it can smell "grandma" like to others but I am just wired this way to love such scents with a passion.

I am very surprised to find this actually reminds me A LOT of the discontinued 90s treasure that was Organza Indecence by Givenchy. Organza was more boozy and a tad sweeter, less powdery but this hits the spot perfectly if you cannot find Organza Indecence at a reasonable price nowadays. The vibe is very much similar. Also, upon thought, I think this also is in the same vein as L de Lolita Lempicka albeit much less sweet and suffocating but the vibe is still similar. Think old books, warmth, spices, fudge sweetness etc.

Domina1

I’ve finally put my hands on this perfume, got my travel size from a retailer. Lilly and honey for 20-30 min - felt a bit too much first, then wood and other notes kicked in. Very pleasant, cozy, relaxing. I don’t think projection is big, it stays quite close to the skin.

This is a humble unobtrusive perfume with a character and uniqueness. I like it.

Zethre

Slightly warm, gentle vanilla sandalwood with very slight spice and faint flowers. A nice cosy sensuous scent, in a similar vein to Tresor, without being the same.
Edited to say:
I've now tried both a vintage and new one, and they smell exactly the same, but the new one has way better sillage! A really lovely birthday present from my son :)

Sol0013

This one smells nice. It doesn't have the wow factor but it smells pretty. Very much like make up. It's a warm scent. It's almost invisible on the sample card so I can't really review it...

pennyligeia

This is not bad, Mild, almost soapy. I actually like the scent. It disappears so fast I can hardly justify the price.
It's just a clean, inoffensive scent.

Jana711xx

Love Sensuous, it is one of the few perfumes that is warm and snuggly in the autumn and winter and light and airy in the spring and summer. It is a beautiful skin scent which can we worn anytime of the day or night.

Trendy Minimalist Niche Sandalwoods: A Little Story

over the past decade, these minimalist niche sandalwood perfumes have been all the rage. in fact, I think of these barely there sandalwoods as The Major Trend of the Los Angeles elite for the 2010's. fragrances like le labo santal 33, escentric molecules 01, byredo mojave ghost, diptyque tam dao (this one is very good), frederic malle dries van noten (ok, this one is pretty good too), tom ford santal blush, parle moi milky musk, kilian sacred wood, comme des garcons wonderwood, ds durga radio bombay etc. and so on (and on and on)...

I think you see my point, there are a lot of sandalwood frags, and given that these minimalist barely there sandalwoods are pretty pricey, you might want to check out estee lauder sensuous, which since 2008, has always been just as good, or simply better. i don’t really get into these plain sandalwoods, they strike me as scents for people who don’t like fragrances at all, because most of the time you could get the same barely there effect by storing your sweaters in a cedar chest. once in a while, i do get in the mood for a plain minimalist sandalwood frag, and when I do, estee lauder sensuous totally hits the spot. it's really nice. side by side you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between sensuous and all these more expensive niche sandalwoods. (i dare you)

another classic sandalwood that i have always received compliments on (while i never do for any of the others i have listed) is guerlain samsara. i have a vintage (1990s) samsara that's like champagne sandalwood. it's an aldehydic, effervescent type sandalwood that is really darn good. so, don't miss estee lauder sensuous and guerlain samsara (if you can find vintage) and you, too, can have your little sandalwood secrets which are really quite good. the samsara, in particular, actually has sillage and leaves a trail, which none of the others, including sensuous, do.

Ashlowery14

Very powdery sandalwood scent on my skin. Not very woody in my opinion other than sandalwood. Almost like a slightly sandalwood baby powder. The iris is very dominant which is where that powdery vibe is coming from. I would call this a cozy scent. Like an amplified baby powder scent. This would be a safe office scent. Not long lasting on my skin, maybe 2 hours, but I have not tried it on my clothing yet.

derliesl

I swear there is cinnamon in this. Not the sweet, gourmand type, but the woodsy bark. The combination with sandalwood and amber makes this perfume warm, but at the same time a bit distant, because it isn't sweet. It's not opaque, but open and a bit sharp at times. It's a rather unisex perfume.

DarlingNikki

Smells like a fresh box of just sharpened #2 pencils that have been infused with pure honey. I just can't deal with this nuclear level of woodiness, but understand that many find it sensual, unusual, and a must-have.

annelisemaurer2560

Loved it when it came out, still love it. Calm dry wood.
Interesting how it came out during the Obama years' sweet-super-fruit era, predicting the dry clean woods, ex: Le Labo Santal 33 and oud-everywhere, that are/were recently all the rage.

hairymary

This main thing I want to say about Sensuous is that it is a good perfume for those who are sensitive to sandalwood but are willing to give it a try and get used to it. When I first started getting into perfumes there were a few smells I had a hard time with, and sandalwood was one of them. Samsara, for example, would give me a headache (should've just spritzed it behind my knees and left it at that, a method I now use for the heavy-hitters). So when I started working at a shop that carried Lauder, I bumped into Sensuous, and found it very wearable and creamy and yes, smelling like sandalwood but toned down. So for anyone out there who has a hard time with sandalwood, I recommend this.

kathmelegrito

Pencil shavings+ faint honey = EL Sensuous

celia46

Sensuous is one of the most feminine perfumes that I have.

Here in Uruguay winter is ending, it is still cold outside but the days are beginning to be promising.

Sensuous is the perfect scent for this sunny and cold climate, with its just dose of warmth, yet subtle and very feminine so it doesn't overwhelm like other winter perfumes.

Pez_Enelrio

I have a strange relationship with this one. Similar to what I have with Burberry Brit, and though the notes are not alike, to me both have some cinnamon smell which I link to the fall/winter season. I think I just realized my issue with them is that I would rather use them as a home fragrance than wear them, however usually I am totally not against wearing home fragrances as perfume.

Jessica_Jones

I do love this one. I bought this because to me it smelled exactly like the way my hair smells after the salon. Uplifting. And I got some compliments for sure. I gotta say though, I wore it today because I missed it, and I barely smelled it after an hour :( (I wore JHAG MMMM... along with it, and I can still smell the JHAG after 6 hours plus shower).

Fragrance Fawn

This has been a steady presence in my scent rotation for more than a decade and for good reason.

I find it to be a very human scent, and a very nature based scent. The reviewer below who mentioned being in a spa in New Mexico definitely got the vibe...when I read that....I said "YES!". I recall being at Ojo Caliente in New Mexico a few years ago for my honeymoon...having soaked the day away....covered myself in earth and soaked in the sun....then at night...the pinion fire I sat and warmed myself by....yes....Sensuous to me provides that same warmth and comfort when I wear it.

It's not a screecher, it has moderate sillage with good longevity. I have received compliments on it and I do think it is a very accessible, unisex fragrance....although I personally think most scents can be worn by anyone.

For me, a great scent can bring me back to the day I was introduced to it and I recall that day very clearly. I had never been a fan of Estee Lauder perfumes but the name and the bottle caught my eye, so I tried it; 10 minutes later it was in my bag on the way to my home and we haven't parted since. Love at first sniff indeed.

I don't see the similarity between this and Cashmere Mist....don't care for that scent at all.

If you want a lovely every day fragrance that is appropriate for all occasions....try this and see if it works with your chemistry....if it does....you will be well rewarded.

LMD

Oh my word this is gorgeous. Yet another sample spree purchase, I was cautiously excited to receive this. Names don't always match the fragrance, and reading the notes doesn't guarantee that they will smell how you imagine them. However in this case they do. Sensuous is an utterly apt description of the fragrance. The notes are everything I hoped they'd be. This is a woman's perfume, not a girl's. The woods and sandalwood are perfect, the light florals subtly lift it. I can't comment on longevity as I have had it only an hour. The sillage does not feel strong and overpowering but just right. So luxurious, like the softest cashmere. Just dreamy.
EDIT: Eight hours later I am still getting delicious wafts of this from my neck and t shirt. Wrists have a subtle trace.
UPDATE sept 21: something terrible started happening to this on my skin shortly after I got it. The woods ramp up to choking strength, to the point I can't wear it without choking and a massive headache. Every now and then I have a little spray but the results are the same. So jealous of those who can wear it as I no longer can.

NouveauDruid

To my nose, Sensuous is a warm, Japanese wood incense, the kind that lacks spices, that melts into my skin and changes very little once it dries down. And yet, there is just enough ylang ylang to make Sensuous a sort of Samsara Light. The amber isn't overdone, the lily luckily amounts to droplets, and the pepper and other notes lack distinction, and sometimes that's a plus. Sensuous is less sexy than comforting. It's both cool and warm and definitely unisex. It's dryly earthy without being dusty. There is something astringent about it here and there, in contrast with Samsara, but this astringency evokes a visit to a New Mexico spa replete with dry saunas, crackling fires, and artesian waters. Reach for it when you want to feel grounded.

Nijntje

This soured on my skin, unfortunately. The wood is so real, I could swear I was standing in a forest. Big unisex, aftershave-vibe in the opening, but then the flowers and the sweetness come rushing in to soften the scent. Sensuous indeed. Timeless too. Very clear and pretty, but not for me because of my chemistry.

Austrian_in_Denmark

I love all the Sensous perfumes I know: the original, the Nude, and the Noir.

The summery, coconutty Nude and the va-va-voom Noir were instant crushes, but I merely liked the original Sensuous, when I first tested it. The wood was too sharp on my skin. However, my tastes, my skin or the star constellations have changed, and Sensuous has turned from a lukewarm like to a love. I find it relaxing and luxurious.

I get a lot of sandalwood and a lot of sweetness - probably the honey. Also a (phantom?) coconut, maybe due to knowing Sensuous Nude.
Sensuous is strong and stays for about 8 hours.

Scentsywhatsky

I don’t know that I could add any more with my accolades that hasn’t already been said, but I’ll add mine anyway. Warm and sweet but not cloyingly so. Longevity is excellent too. This can be worn any occasion. Makes an excellent signature fragrance.
I wish I had discovered this little gem sooner. It’s a gourmand for people who typically dislike gourmands. I absolutely love it!
Edit: After wearing this is various temps, I’ve found that this shines in warmer weather.

yasminetamir

I really love this perfume - performance is great, it's very affordable, the smell is beautiful and the minimalistic look is great for my cluttered perfume collection!

This for me is an anytime, anywhere, at any time of the year kind of fragrance.

I love how clean yet sophisticated it is which makes it great for work or even for lounging at home.
Personally I love layering it with pretty much any of my scents as it's subtle enough to work with most formulations in my opinion.

It gives all of them that signature 'something' that makes people think of me with whatever fragrance I choose for the day, which I also love.

bel.gravia

This is another perfume for women based on sandalwood. The note on its own is warm, smooth, creamy and milky. Additional honey and other woodsy notes and pepper embrace the masculine spiciness and sweet creaminess already existing in sandalwood. The result is a grown up, expensive and luxurious smelling perfume, which to me smells like the most golden summer's evening.

Victorianvicki

Second fave to bronze goddess from Estée Lauder currently available, because Cinnabar, very sexy, warm, spicy. Good for anytime.

jaybo.shouse

I get a lot of the same notes in Sensuous as I did when I wore Dune by Dior. Not my fav from Estée Lauder but still a beautiful scent!!

LisaMCollins

I love this perfume. I am a real sandalwood fan, and this one hits the spot for something oriental but subtle enough I can wear it to work or out to dinner.

The sandalwood and amber are the stars of the show and I get 8 hours out of this one.

It will be in my collection for a long time.

beebee2791

I don't know why, but on my skin it seems to be a unisex fragrance. "Sensuous" is too masculine for my taste. I don't like it!

I definitely prefer "Sensuous Nude" with its amazing note of coconut!

shalimaraddict

This is one of the better offerings from Lauder for fragrances. I find their other ones to be really floral. This has floral notes, but is more of a sexy deep scent with woody notes, honey, and amber. It isn't overpowering at all, and is suitable for day or night.

Gelindee

Just adding to the praise for this gorgeous perfume. I love it more than any perfume I’ve ever had, and I’m stocking up so that I don’t ever have to be without it. It is perfect as far as I’m concerned. Long-lasting, wonderful sillage, men always compliment it, and it makes me feel fabulous. I know I look better when I wear it!

KittyDeBeauvoir

Just a perfect warm, classy, sexy honey scent of sandalwood and amber.
This perfume has grown on me so much, it's become one I can't live without in my collection.

***

Kitty rating: 10/10!

GinCatsBooks

This is essentially a cashmere jumper in a bottle!

I could just basically leave it at that, since, well most reviewers seem to have basically said everything I think of this fragrance as well, but I will expand :)

As I have said before in one of my other EL fragrance reviews, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with EL fragrances, I have no idea why because the majority of them such as Knowing, Modern Muse, Pure White Linen, Beyond Paradise, etc, I do appreciate and I would (and do) quite happily wear, but I have a negative association with this house because of someone who wasn't quite so nice and always wore Youth Dew, but I try my best not to let this put me off

Sensuous is just simply divine, its like a hug, its warm and clean, on me, Sensuous opens up with a warm, soapy and milky note, a mixture of the ylang-ylang, sandalwood and pepper I think, once it dries down I get more of the lily, magnolia, "molten woods" drizzled with honey and amber with sandalwood still lingering in the background to help pull all the other notes together.

Projection is soft and quite intimate which I think is why this is called sensuous, longevity is good, I can still detect it on myself after a long day (spray at 8:30am and still smell it at 5:00pm), it also last on clothing for ages, my (incidentally) cashmere scarf still smells of sensuous 48 hours after I'd worn it, the scent is the olfactive interpretation of beige and the texture of cashmere, I adore it <3

This will be a repurchase, 100%, its easy to wear and its an excellent dumb reach, you can dress it up, down, whatever you want to do and it still always feels appropriate
Excellent work EL :)

SalinasL

I really like Sensuous, but it doesn’t last or project on me at all. I get the wood, some amber, and a lot of sandalwood. It’s warm, calming, natural-smelling, sensuous in a zen/meditative kind of way. Just wish I could still smell it after 20 minutes.

chlorodream

Sensuous - a soft, aromatic and pleasant perfume that just wears a little too mature on me. I much prefer Sensuous Nude which I think fits the name better. This one is lovely but does not exactly summon the image of sensuousness - I couldn’t wear this to bed, it’s just too safe and a little boring. I expected more, honestly. I think I’ll stick with Sensuous Nude.

Good_Sniffer

Estee Lauder Sensuous EDP: Artificial candy and plastic smell with a hint of honey. I really didn't like it.

Queen of torts

Had this bottle for about 10 years and have been wearing it a more recently. Mellow, aromatic sandalwood and honey with hint of warm amber. Love it but don't want to use it all unless I can secure a back up so I just use it a few times a month.

sjtdz

This is so warm and cozy, it's that cuddling by the fire in a scandi inspired home with your lover. It's skiing in the winter then hot coco. it's the day after a fabulous night with your beau that has you blushing when you think about it.

i bought this as i thought i was a better 'day time' scent vs Opium which I can say is a bit wilder but this is....

this is for coy pursuit, for coaxing out and a little light teasing. a little twinkle in the eye matching and a little pink on the cheeks

i think i underestimated this perfume

Catsylvania

I wore it back in the day with pleasure, and I feel like now I'd be able to appreciate it even more than I did back then. What I absolutely adore in Sensuous is that it's perfectly balanced with sweet and spicy, and how wonderfully sandalwood and honey add to the overall structure. I don't even want to break apart different notes whenever I would wear it - it's just beautifully unique and "sensuous" as it is.

Sensuous radiates a pretty decent aura rather than a trail, which lasts for about 7-8 hours. Definitely want a refill of this beauty.

lrnonken

mmmmmmm......SO GOOD! Very similar to Bulgari Jasmin Noir, to my nose. Cozy, sexy but not aggressive. Comfy cuddly sandalwood. Appropriate all-year, day or night in my opinion, very versatile. Moderate sillage/projection, so it's understated but addictive!

TillyWave

Oh an oldie but goodie! Sensuous is over ten years old now and I'm glad she's still around. I bought her maybe a year after she came out and I've really liked this perfume ever since. If my shelf was less crowded, I would probably wear Sensuous all the time, she's that versatile.

Sensuous is mostly a sweetened floral wood perfume. From the cap I can really smell the pepper note, but for some reason this doesn't translate on my skin. What I mostly smell is a bouquet of honeyed white flowers, sweet and clean and floral, an underlying spice of maple infused cinnamon, and ambery woods. There's a very strong wood note in here, and while it smells WOODY and all it's only faintly laced with sandalwood. The sandalwood note kind of weaves in and out, and I like it that way.

The best thing about Sensuous is that it combines a few styles of perfume that I normally wouldn't guess would mesh. First the florals, when I think of EL, I think of floral perfumes done in a certain manner (think Beautiful) flowers done in an assertive, almost matronly style. Second for me this verges on gourmand, with the cinnamon, spice, amber, and sweet honey notes. Lastly the wood, the gourmand wood accord is really nice, and flounced with the heavenly white flowers...Really well done as an 'art' composition!

Now this sounds like it would wear loud but on me it's a skin scent--the good kind, one that you can easily smell on your person, but it just doesn't project much. Lasting power is pretty good as long as you use a few sprays, up to 8 hours.

And, I really like to layer this with Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black. It gives the sandalwood a boost, and the vanilla note works quite nicely!

Mnovara

I never wear any Estee Lauder fragrance before. Years ago, my best friend gave me the miniature. I dont like it at my first impression, too spicy and sharp for me. But after few minutes... oh wow. Very addictive. Unique, sensual, warm, musky and comfortable. Something classy but very very well-blended with my skin scent.
Very long lasting on my skin when i wear it in air-conditioned room (i live in a tropical country).

LemonCake

Edit: Felt like my initial review didn't do it enough justice, so I had to expand. I loved this perfume as soon as I tried it, but as I started using it regularly, I could swear it became even more beautiful on my skin.

So, I tried Sensuous after finding the perfume on Fragrantica. It was a potential match to my expectation of a soft, summery, personal scent. It went above and beyond! As I said, I loved it from the get-go, but using it regularly felt like this perfume literally weeded into my skin and started giving off even more beautiful personal scent.

Sensuous starts with woodsy and sweet notes. After a couple of minutes, the ylang-ylang note comes out, but mind it, it is very discreet and never overpowering. Ylang-ylang sometimes gives perfumes a bit of a masculine tone, but this one never crosses that line, so all I get from this note is freshness. In half an hour, Sensuous settles down with creamy soft honey and mandarin notes that never get too heavy and sticky, as they are still balanced by woodsy notes and just a smidge of pepper. I cannot even begin to describe just how elegant, pure, and special this scent is.

Sensuous is a very simple fragrance, but in this case, simplicity doesn't equal a lack of depth. It is gentle, calm, and personal.

Longevity is great, pretty surprisingly. At first, I felt the sillage was weak, but a couple of times I noticed it was actually projecting quite decently, not from my wrist, but from my neck and clothes. Right now, I can barely feel it on my wrist, but as I move, I can feel the whiff from my neck, hair, and clothes.

Finally, this perfume was not made to project heavily. It is an intimate scent that stays close to the skin and gets to reach only those who come close enough. An absolute gem, so insanely special and personal in its simplicity. Signature worthy.

mastiha

Honey intense note. Gives a sensual warm feeling while wearing it. Its not giving you this fresh feeling at first but it blends amazingly on my skin as time pass creating a unique personal scent. Sweet and sexy at the same time. Great longitivity, cannot say the same for sillage.

dsty

If you're looking for a good sandalwood scent, especially if you have a more feminine-leaning taste, Sensuous is a must-try. I wasn't expecting much when I got a sample by accident (I wonder why, maybe I'm prejudiced against Estee Lauder scents, or more likely the seductive, sexy marketing around this one just doesn't speak to me), so I was pleasantly surprised to find this wonderful sandalwood. It's super creamy, and warm without slipping too far into spicy territory - just a very smooth, balanced, comfortable scent, and I think it'd work well year-round and in all kind of settings. I really enjoyed sampling this one; it's one of those I could imagine wearing quite happily as a signature if I'd encountered it before I discovered the wider world of perfumes, but that I can live without now that I have.

Jmalone84

I could swear I detected tonka but nevermind. I prefer this over the others, this is Sensuous indeed. Very elegant, I have come to really like this fragrance. The woods are very prominent and really adds a point of difference to this fragrance. I initially didn't actually like this line because I wasn't keen on heavily woodsy fragrances but I have developed an appreciation and have come back to this a few years later with a more mature nose.

I feel it can keep up with the current market for sure, but it's also not overly sweet and you'll smell different to what most are wearing. Warm, dry, peppery, powdery and woodsy with a touch of honey. Very well done. One tiny spray and the sillage is quite impressive, lends a lovely aura. I would like a small bottle.

Light perfume, slightly heady but not overpowering, I cannot seem to detect the woodsy accord in this, it is part white floral, part powdery, just a hint of sweetness at the opening, no spice no woods nothing. It is unusual but something about this is irresistable to me. Lovely day scent.

vrosej10

From what I could smell of it, which was very little, this was the olfactory representation of the colour of nude tone underwear. I am guessing it's meant to be some kind of amber. I can't say if I love it or hate it; I'd have to be able to smell it properly for that. It's trying not to exist in order not to offend.

Phantomias

It took two sprays to get the sandalwood note, but now it's clear and very lovely. S. is a modern Estee Lauder scent, and while I'm a big fan of the classic EL frags, Sensuous is nice, and yes, quite sensuous! The dry down is, dare I say it, hands down sexy.

The honey plays well with the woody notes, which keeps the scent from getting too sweet. I don't notice any florals, but that's OK. The sandalwood is good enough to keep me interested.

S. has good lasting power, even though sillage isn't great. The perfume sinks into the skin, making S. work safe. I think this fragrance would work on men as well as women.

Coquita

It's one of those perfumes that smell wonderful on paper and terrible on me. I hope that some of you will make the best out of the sandalwood-magnolia-honey-pepper scent I get on paper because that's what dreams are made of.

So i’m Very pleasantly surprised by this one!

I bought it by accident, thinking I was buying Sensuous Nude. It sat in its box forever, I was thinking i’d Maybe never open it. I smelled it in a department store after, and it was too woody for my tastes (I usually don’t like sandalwood) and that was my first impression.

Well for whatever reason last night, I decided to give it another try and I suppose my tastes HAVE changed, but wow, this was gorgeous! It is woody, but also creamy and sweet - very unique. Nothing overpowers me, and it’s addictive to smell.

The sillage is just how I like it. Noticeable, but soft. This perfume will not knock someone out or offend anyone, but it will be noticed.
Longevity seems good as well. I won’t be getting wafts of it on my clothes days later, which is also preferable.

I really liked this, and i’ll be happily wearing more of it! Also seems appropriate for all seasons - another plus, maybe this could be a signature worthy scent! I really recommend testing it on your skin!

brietexas

My favorite of this line is Sensuous Noir, but since it's been discontinued, I started wearing this. I love the spice and the warmth. It's cozy and a bit sexy at the same time.

The problem is...it doesn't last or project. I wish EL would offer more...lotion, body cream, shower gel...for layering.

muskjust

I think it’s very strange that people are saying this disappears so quickly! For me it’s really strong and I can easily still smell it 10 hrs later, Beautiful smell, great silage, you can’t go wrong

jolieshirley

kandykat

This perfume is nothing unique and does not last. After 3-4 spritzes on my arm, I had to touch my nose to it to smell it. The notes sounds lovely, but because of the poor sillage and generic scent, I will not purchase.

Soulfully Yours

Not a fan. Too strong and annoying. I couldn't use it after couple of times.

shusha

I was not impressed with this at all and don't see the connection between the fragrance and the name. It is fairly generic and well blended although woody notes were dominating on me. It lasted 1-2h after that I could not detect it. It's not bad, but given that it doesn't last on me it's hard to fairly assess this scent.

annxyz

I found this very light and not long lasting . It is not syrupy , which is good . I noticed the S.A. Spraying herself behind the counter with this about every ten minutes . Not a bad scent if ou like light , clean scents that wear close to the skin and seem to disappear in short time while you remember the price of the bottle ( which is pretty. )

Sensuous Noir is the only winner in this line, and it has been discontinued ! It is long lasting, distinct, warm and rich. Go figure . I did not smell anything resembling sandalwood in any of these.

mermaidshimmer

Ahhh...this is cinnamon toast with light sandalwood and a spoonful of honey. It has none of the coconut of Sensual Nude and in my eyes this is perfect for sweater weather. I've found that it lasts for days on sweaters but not on bare skin. Its projection is moderate and fades to arms length after a couple of hours. I reach for this when I crave something cozy and delicately spicy and unobtrusive.

meg0825

I tested Sensuous Nude a while back and didn't like it that much. Too much coconut for my taste. But this one I am loving! This fragrance oozes honey and is thick, sweet, and golden. A great combination of honey, woods, amber, pepper, and lily. Warm, cozy, and indeed sensuous!

annxyz

This is a fragrance for people who like to wear perfume but do not want anyone to really smell their fragrance . as a matter of fact , you might need Sherlock Holmes to find it after you lay out about $75 .

bkaye

I recently purchased this. I really like it because it is different, unusual. I don't see this as a winter fragrance. I feel it can be worn for any season. It's summer now and it fits very nicely into the season. The fragrance has its own strong character. And ladies, you will not smell like everyone else when you wear this beauty.

IndigoEye

I am the victim of my own fragrance snobbery. I love sandalwood and spices and this has definitely been recommended to me in the past but I always ignored it - how could Estée Lauder really deliver the quality when formulations of Diptyque, Lutens and a host of other woody scents all feel thin these days?

The good news is that I finally got over myself. I love this - the honey note and lily help smooth out the feel of the sandalwood, and the pepper and amber give it a warm spice. It is complex - some florals, plenty of wood, honey, pepper, spice and amber - but not complicated and would suit most occasions.

This is clearly inspired by Feminité du Bois but it is more smooth and creamy than the translucent woody of the Lutens. It is also very similar to Tom Ford's Santal Blush, not surprising, I suppose, when they are both owned by the same company? Santal Blush is more daring and spicy whereas as Sensuous is more sweet and spicy.

This is an excellent scent and an excellent price. Longevity and sillage are both good

KimberMoon

I will never be without this fragrance. Soft, but not too soft. Sweet, but not too sweet. The amber/pepper/sandalwood combination is perfection. It's great for any season. Casual and formal occasions. It reminds me a bit of Christian Dior Dolce Vita without the cinnamon. In my top three favorites.

BringUsAShrubbery

I don't really enjoy the honey note on myself. It smells kind of "old", like dried fruit. I wanted to love it, but I prefer the honey in scents like TokyoMilk Honey and the Moon.

jg2758

A soft, somehow beach-y scent.I'd recommend it to others as a "my skin but better" scent, but it's not my thing.

kati77

Unbelievably long-lasting, close-personal, still long-lasting. Warm, almond and floral. Similar to A. Levine Women, feminine. I would recommend.
I do not recommend it for hot weather, then it is sour.

Becw08

Next cashmere is such a good dupe for this!

mono9

Thie was mostly (and pleasantly) sandalwood on me and I agree that this is mostly a linear fragrance. I suggest if you want to buy TF Santal Blush, give this a shot before. I wore both, did not notice any groundbreaking difference. TF was meh in terms of longevity and sillage. You may save your bucks.

sibaraa

My second favorite fragrance. The Arabian feel and the light citrus scent just create the perfect harmony, i hope it will never be discontinued.

Tovah

I am very sad that Estee Lauder is discontinuing the Sensuous line. Estee Lauder makeup and fragrances were always in my life.My Nana wore Knowing,my Aunt wore Tuscany per Donna, my sister wore Beyond Paradise,my friend wore Beautiful, my neighbor wore Cinnabar, my friend's mother wore Aliage,my cousin wore Dazzling Silver, another grandmother wore Youth Dew, my mother wears Pleasures...and finally I had an Estee! Sensuous. Everything about it is my find of fragrance and I truly love it. I am going to miss it so much. I cannot believe the sales dumped so badly this fragrance didn't even last 10 years on the market! I love the scent and I have enjoyed it since it launched. The market is beyond oversaturated and there's room only for products that get pushed to the forefront, for their 15 minutes of fame, whether they deserve it or not.

kerion

Got this last week. Disappointed. If you are used to strong scents you won't like this, it will seem weak. Nude and Noir are amazing

AnitaHendricks

Oehw! This name fits the scent. It's sensuous! It somehow reminds me of walking into a Lush store. I would like some matching bath products. I can't say it's clean but it is a scent that would be fitting for bath robe moments. The soft, sweet honey and the wood notes are the strongest. The ylang ylang, amber and white florals add in some sensuality. The mandarin and pepper are subtile but uplifting and tingly! It's exactly enough. The woody balsamicness with the honey makes me think of a spa too. A spa for ladies. It's not offensive at all. You could wear this scent everywhere. It's a beautiful perfume.

Gemini12

I've never been a big fan of woody perfumes, but oh my is this one gorgeous! The opening is what I would call a woody gourmand....sandalwood, yes, but lots of lovely sweet notes from the ylang-ylang, orange, amber and honey. I struggle with pepper, so thankfully it's very subtle here. As Sensuous dries down the sandalwood becomes more prominent and it becomes, well, sensuous. This is a perfume that this non-wood gal would actually consider purchasing!

AMBRA GRI

AnitaTheBanana, great comparison! It really smells like Lush stores.

AMBRA GRI

Oh my! The opening is gorgeous! Strong Spicy Sandalwood! I love sandal and that's a confirmation of how beautiful , creamy , spicy and woodsy this note can be. Yes, it's pungent but I don't mind. Strong sandalwood feels a bit like cinnamon - just lovely. unfortunately, the dry down is a strong creamy note, similarly disappointing like Sensuous Nude. Yet Sensuous is way better! Can't wait to test Levine!

Peetster

Lovely scent. For me it's in the same category as my all time beloved Hermes Eau des Merveilles in that it reminds me of sunwarmed skin during hot summer. To me that is why it deserves it's name. It's sensuous. Probably mainly due to the amber note. I love that. Therefore I love to wear during summer. To me it's a scent I never get bored of. It's timeless; love it!!
Don't like both flankers though.

BellaGiardino

I believe this is what winged angels smell like. A very soft, delicate scent that sits close to the skin. The honey softens the amber in this one. Sometimes amber can be too pronounced and will overshadow the other notes. This is perfection. I can't believe anyone would find this fragrance objectionable. Absolutely lovely!

Bee-young-ka

A very nice Sandalwood with warm honey drizzled over it.

I'm a huge black pepper fan but the pepper is very Subtle.

Beautiful bottle.

just don't get it in your eye, ouchy.

Ella09

I can definitely smell the soothing Ylang ylang in this perfume quite strong. As well as the lovely, elegant and super sexy and feminine white flowers. All these combined with the wonderfully sensuous amber and sandalwood scents make it a truly beautiful, unique, captivating and super chic perfume. I have only been wearing this for a few days now- too early to say this perhaps, but this may become my signature scent. Definitely my favourite at the moment. It is so wonderfully soothing, calming, creamy and feminine. A wonderful scent.

Nuitdenoel

I am testing Sensuous right now. I wear Sensuous Nude almost daily but I had never really paid much attention to the original. I like it but I don't love it. That's not a negative thing, though. In fact, I will probably buy a full bottle. Okay, onto the review.

Like most Estée Lauder perfumes, you absolutely cannot judge it on the initial 5-10 minutes. It needs time to settle. First blast was plastic, but then it settled into a sandalwood/amber/cinnamon combo. Very nice and warm. Then, there is a gradual transition on my skin where honey comes to the forefront. My husband said I smelled like a cinnamon cookie, lol. The sandalwood stays fairly prominent. I think this more oriental than gourmand, though, as I never feel it ventures into the edible, although obviously my husband thinks otherwise

UPDATE: So, having Sensuous and Nude wrist-to-wrist, I prefer the Nude. The original Sensuous becomes extremely woody and sharp during the drydown, and that's just not me. Please bear in mind that SN is the only perfume in my collection to be woody, as woods just don't seem to be a note I enjoy, so take this review with a grain of salt. If I could have kept the first 30 minutes of Sensuous, where the only way I can describe the scent is: a spice market with cinnamon, cloves, peppers, vanilla in the heat of the noon-day sun being sold from stalls made of sandalwood. One of the most impressive orientals I've smelled to date. Anyway, that scent would have been FB worthy for me without hesitation. Once the woods take over, though, that's all I smell...very sharp woods. On my skin, it turns very masculine.

Sensuous Nude keeps from veering into sharp woods with the creamy coconut and the musk. AN is one of my great perfume loves of all time.

As an addendum, I prefer the whole Sensuous line over the Modern Muse line. Both are woody but I prefer how it's done in the Sensuous line.

The Nude is kept from

kitpup9

Love! My favorite is still the original Sensuous, but I also enjoy the Nude & Noir

WEBLOFT

I just received my bottle today and was able to compare it to Sensuous Nude (which I adore). I noticed that both have the same DNA which is so great!

SENSUOUS lets me actually smell HONEY & CHOCOLATE in a soft, non-overpowering and non-classical-caramel-drizzle-Gourmand kind of way. Long lasting juice for grownups who want to smell clean, sweet, creamy and, well, sensuous. This is a "my skin scent but better"-kind of perfume (another one in that category would be LOVELY by SJP ... very close to my skin but more on the flowery side). I think it should be used with a light hand though. It is on the stronger side but when lightly used, it works its magic on my skin much better.

SENSUOUS NUDE on the other hand gives me HONEY, COCONUT and creamy SOAP. It behaves quieter than Sensuous on my skin.

The Sensuous line is pretty unknown here in Germany and I am happy that I have found it.

EDIT: after trying each Sensuous on me, I prefer the NUDE version, because it smells more youthful and more creamy to me. The smoky side of classic Sensuous is interesting but reminds me of a Gentleman's Club and cigar smoke or smokers in general (I do smoke myself but actually don't want a reminder of that via perfume). Next step is to ask a friend to smell my wrists and give me an honest opinion.

KarlekLila

Sensuous is deliciously warm, darkly peppered, Indian red santal coated in gobs of thick honey! I received a bottle in a swap and will be forever grateful. This juice is wonderful! While I do like the Sensuous Nude flanker, the coconutty note seems all too commonly associated with suntan lotion. But this... This woody, spicy-sweet beauty is absolutely timeless! I hope to always keep a bottle in my collection. While often compared with Adam Levine (a fragrance I also enjoy), I find them to be entirely different interpretations of sandalwood. Levine is all about white santal dipped in creamy, saffron-spiced vanilla making it far more milky and less woody then Sensuous, and much more akin to Tom Ford Santal Blush. Two sprays of Sensuous last me well over 8 hours on skin, (longer on clothes). Sillage that rests close to the body, enhancing the scent of one's own skin in an indeed, utterly sensuous way. Perfection!

meliecat

Based on all the notes this one should be one that I`d instantly like. But sadly no. No. I must blame my body chemistry..Although a good friend bought if for herself to have something other than Coco Madmoiselle and Just Cavalli on her dresser table, and she didn`t like it either - in fact she tried to persuade me to take it from her at a reasonable price..
I just find it way too sweet, another example of the current trend. As it progresses into the drydown it develops into something a bit more bearable - probably as the honey fades - but I would never pick it for myself and if I got it as a present I`d pass it on as soon as possible..to someone who likes sweet and gourmand.

wildwestwoman

I love this one. Soft, musky floral. Not overpowering.

mmarrs

EL Sensuous just isn't the one for me. At first I get a slight white flower note and then I am blasted with a smoke smell on my skin. Even though there are no smoke notes listed but I do see where others have noted smoke as well. Then it moves on more white floral note and powder. Then it turns old, plastic and sickly sweet soap note, then more white flower and woods & powder. Reminds me of a tired perfume after a fantastic all nighter at the Disco. Maybe because of the smoke smell but unfortunately a big NO for me. However does have longevity and silage

mapache

This one sprays on..with the dry-down of Adam Levine for Women....which is a good thing !!!! AL goes on a little harsh...with Sensuous...you pass that first harshness.
They smell very similar....like sisters...not clones...to my nose. I also have to report that AL lasts longer and projects much more. I would still like a bottle of Sensuous some day..and before it gets discontinued...sigh....

savageinstrangeland

If you like super spicy scents, this one will be great for you! It was WAY too spicy for me. But that's a preference thing due to my skin chemistry turning spice masculine somehow. It's really executed well and has good longevity and decent silage. I wish it had worked for me. It smells beautiful on my mom who I gave my bottle to.

Neckromancer

This is very peppery and spicy to me as well. The wood in it is excellent. Very good quality and powdery. This is not too sweet to my nose though, which is a bit disappointing because I was expecting more honey. I think I'm gonna buy Adam Levine's scent now.
Edit:
I bought Adam Levine. I prefer this because it is much much sweeter and calmer...it doesn't hurt my nose the way Adam Levine does.

AnnaT

this one goes very 'oily' and peppery on me throughout.I enjoy Sensuous Nude much more.

Coffee_Girl

Sensuous smells exactly like its namesake; this is one of those linear fragrances that don’t evolve very much but it smells so amazing that it doesn’t matter. This was close to becoming my signature scent, but I found it rather difficult to wear on a daily basis. It’s something that I reach for at night, after a hot shower…before bed, or for a quiet evening out with my husband.

Sensuous starts with a blast of sandalwood and cedar, these are the primary notes that can be picked out amongst the mellowing warmth of honey and amber. I sense a little pepper in between but it complements the woodiness of this fragrance so well that you can hardly separate the two. There is a bit of orange on the cool down which invokes a clean powdery feeling to the structure of this perfume. With the exception of ylang-ylang, I did not detect any florals.

I consider Sensuous to be one of my top five powdery fragrances, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever smelled before and I feel this is due to the unique nature of its ingredients. The honey and amber radiates with warmth and sensuality, it reminds me of silk sheets and vanilla body cream, very luxurious and decadent. At its heart this is a boozy powder with balsamic undertones and hints of warm incense. It’s very feminine but not immature; this is unequivocally a woman’s fragrance.

Overall I am consistently enamored with Sensuous; as the seasons shift into December I find myself embracing it like a warm blanket before a roaring fire. I can imagine this to be a perfect companion for autumn and winter. Sillage and longevity are moderate, this is a skin scent meant to entice and seduce with ease; apparently it works…I am constantly under its spell!

I could DROWN IN THIS SCENT!!! I can't get enough of this absolutely beautiful scent!!! The name Sensuous explains it all. JUST DIVINE!!!

dyaver

Sensuous is definiely one of my favourite woody fragrances. I love the notes of honey and amber in it. It's totally mesmerizing, soothing, comforting and sensual. It's good for every season and every time of the day. Lasts on skin for several hours.

laulaura

This perfume has a familiar smell of soap, of an old soap made of natural ingredients, nothing syntetic about it,like home made soap.Sometimes it smells to me like washed clothes that stood in a drawer for years and haven't been refreshed and thus got stale.i think it is because it has woody notes combined with notes that smell like soap.
But mainly it has a delicate sweet smell like washed sheets on skin.It is a feminine perfume. This is how my room used to smell when i was little.
I would't wear it often, already my room smells like that, like fresh sheets most of the time but that's comforting and nice.

mapache

Finally sniffed this at Macy's today. Was so excited to try it...being that a lot of reviewers compare it to Adam Levine for Women...which is one of my TOP 5 favorites. Well, Sensuous is not "bad"...but nowhere close to my nose, to Adam Levine...The 2 to 3 sprays I put on the top of my hand,,,,I got no spice...or sandalwood....amber??? WHERE ??? I will pass on this one.

violettendency

The spicyness in the opening almost stings my nose, but the drydown is just powdery/creamy goodness. It's comfortable and also sexy, and the longevity is great. It lasts all day on my skin, delivering little whispers of warmth all day.

UnearthlyApothecary

I am reviewing this because I just now realized I never have and I wore it today. I will start by saying that I love Sensuous Noir so much more BUT that one is not for everyone and this one is much more lovable for most and it is a very wonderful scent. This is one of the rare scents that matches it's name. It IS sensuous, also decadent and opulent. This one will make you feel like a queen. Warm, creamy, woodsy, the honey note really ties it all together. If you like woodsy/ambery scents I highly suggest this one, if you have never tried it, you simply must.

deviation

This scent is beautiful for evening outs. It smells of sandalwood and has mild sweetness to it. Smells a bit like crystal noir. Linear yet sophisticated but not memorable enough.

soniamcalear

I could DROWN IN THIS SCENT because I love it soooooooooo much!!! Ive died and went to Sensuous Heaven!!!! SOFT, CREAMY, everything a woman could want!!!! This is like nothing ive ever had in my collection and im glad because I don't want to smell like everyone else. I just went on a trip to the East Coast and every woman at the Airport smells like Britney Spears Fantasy type of scents, Fruit Baskets!!! Not me, NEVER. Im unique in this scent and LOVE IT!!!!

redskyatnight

Such a soft skin scent, I can barely pick up any notes. It's very pleasant, probably great for a person who doesn't typically like wearing perfume. Very low sillage; only enough for whoever's kissing you! Yet even the next day I can still smell it on me.

Soofiya

2nd review:
I used to love sandalwood but I can't get along well with sandal dominant perfumes,I still like a hint of it in combination with vanilla and other notes, but woodsy, even sandalwoody fragrances are not my thing anymore
I decided to give sensous a try and see how do I feel about it now
It's unbelievably amazing that I still love it!
Yes there is a dominant sandalwood here, but it's dewed in peppery amber and is so well blended with honeyed florals that It's still lovely to my nose,I love top and middle notes more than it's balmy woody base but it's still very nice, warm, soothing, cuddly and deep..I really wished there was a flanker of it with more honey and amber and florals..I think I'd better layer it with amber solinotes to see wheter I like it more or not..
Ok,so not still among my top tens but still lovely, wearable and sensous
BTW,longevity and sillage are much better in cold weather

Turtle05

I love this. I could seriously bury my nose in it.

applestrudle

This smells like fizzy grass.

mhmystic

It's lovely, I like smelling it on my mother but I wouldn't buy it.

Soofiya

It was a very risky blind buy for me because I really dislike sensous noir,it's like men's Cologne on me but this one is beyond my expectations and I'm really happy that I took the risk of this blind buy
I don't like woody fragrances but sandalwood is a lovely exception(also cashmeran)
All notes are very well blended in sensous, though I can pick up all the notes listed here, creamy sandalwood dewed in warm, sweet honey and spicy amber and a combination of my most beloved floral(lily, magnolia, jasmine and ylang-ylang)
Sensous is really true to its name,it's sensous, warm, seductive,it's deliciously sweet and spicy without being cloying,it's mature, smooth, deep but not heavy,I really love it and maybe it's going to become one of my top tens
Though it's better for cold seasons it's not irritating in heat..Longevity and sillage could be better but they are acceptable
I love you Estee lauder, this one is very different from your other perfumes, however this is very lovely too
❤❤❤❤❤

brightsun2205

I'm not really a fan of Estee Lauder fragrances. However, it isn't bad for me with honey and woody scent with a longevity of around 4 to 6 hours. It is good for cooler climates and warmer nights.

rararamadanti

this scent is ok.. pretty, fresh bouquet of white flower, honey is there but distinct, small amount of citrusness.. but i dont get the woodsy notes at all.. on my skin its all white flower and orange. however its not offensive and could be an office wear.

kellymi

On me:

Powdery, some sweetness--like a faint honey note. I liked it for a minute, but it became reminiscent of a baby doll's powdered rubber "skin" from childhood. It wasn't unpleasant, but I couldn't kick the connection between the scents from my mind.

I really enjoy Sensuous Nude, in which my skin picks up the woody notes with no synthetic vibe at all. There is quite a difference between the two for me, regardless of the flanker status.

theodeled

When you first spray it, you can feel balsamic and honey. As time flies and the perfume makes magic along with your skin, you can feel the soap, the freshness, but also the sexiness: amber, the sweet part and the woods!
I believe that it's a perfume of confidence and sensuality for everyone who wears it!
I smell it and I imagine a beautiful woman walking on the street, wearing a wonderful dress and holding a shopping basket, then sitting in a cafe and waiting for her lover!
That's sensuous to me!

Update: I wore this on Saturday, then I was in the Mall for shopping and between 30 min two women complimented me for my perfume! Success!

Perfumeaddict777

I've been wearing this perfume for about 8 hours now and i can still faintly smell it. I had gotten a nice sized sample from a friend on fragrantica, and i have to say it is georgeous.,Usually my husband likes fruity floral scents that i find sometimes boring so i didn't think my husband would like this one like i do. Out of 12 samples he was smelling he actually picked this one as his top 3 favorites. When i first spray it im consumed with sandlewood and honey, yummy. Ooh this is good sandlewood. After a few minutes i keep thinking ive smelled this before and it finally came to me. This turned a bit powdery but in a good way. It smells just like my grandmas makeup cabinet when i was 10. I used to innocently snoop through her makeup cabinet and it was filled with body powders, perfumes, lip stick, face powder. I would put the face powder abd lip stick on and feel so grown up and like i did something wrong, lol. Sensous smells like the face powder grandma used to wear. The first 3 hours i wore this perfume i thought of my grandma and the easy and carefree times as a child. This perfume makes me feel happy, warm, safe, and brings wonderful memories. It is also a perfume that i imagine wearing with a over sized cozy cashmere sweater next to a cracking fire place. Beautiful. Im thinking I'll get a full sized bottle for Mothers Day!

scentedrat

Very potent sandalwood and amber; deep and sweet. And very heavy. I am amazed that anyone would wear this to the office or feel it is a skin scent! It's one of those types of perfumes you hope your neighbor on the plane isn't wearing....not because it's awful, but because it is a powerhouse. Initially I thought I was going to like it, but within minutes the woods took over and it was too much. Definitely not for me.

Madrona

Lovely honeyed peppery soapy wood. It's springtime but this one makes me wish for fall. Yeah.

Jurisprude

I love it. Which is strange because this is the perfume I neglected and then was surprised when I really liked it. It's big honey and woody to start with.. I'm thinking Mmmmm this brings back a sense of atavistic smells. It's probably the sandalwood. It has a pretty good staying power. I like this. You can do a lot worse!

b.a.denney

I just got this in the EDP, and it's a lot nicer than I used to think it was. I always wanted to like it, but couldn't. I think my tastes have changed slightly. I still don't like cedar notes, or maybe it's that my body chemistry just magnifies that note too much. I'm finding that I do like Sandalwood though. I also love the note of honey in this. I don't get a lot of the floral notes, and that's okay with me. I have Sensuous Nude, and Sensuous Noir, so figured it was time I got the original. I still don't like Sensuous Nude, which, note wise, was the one I blind bought thinking I'd love.

I also have Adam Levigne for Women, and I find them to be similar, but I think the Adam Levigne is actually a little nicer. More well rounded, and unique. I like them both though.

ayh210

Opens with a strong sweet honey smell. It's not my favorite opening in the world, erring on the side of sweet, but the drydown is lustrous warm and inviting.

Ashkelon

I really wanted to love this fragrance, I even bought it without any discount and thought it would be a happy relationship... But it wasn't. As much as I like it on paper, I had to give my bottle away to a friend.

The sandalwood, which in general I adore, got very strange on me, giving me a feeling of a... scratchy wool sweater. I literally felt like my skin was getting red and irritated with a rash (and it wasn't, it was just my imagination). Then I would get a lot of pepper, but also unpleasant - once I even went to the kitchen and stuck my nose into a bag of pepper to sniff and compare! The pepper in Sensuous had an old, dirty, stuffy feeling to it, which is not the case in the kitchen. :)

Still looking for my perfect, womanly, creamy, sexy sandalwood for everyday use. Sorry, Estee. It's not you.

Southern Blonde

A warm honey on your skin. Seductive and true to it's name a very sensuous fragrance. It's more aromatic in the winter months. I love the white flowers in this perfume: magnolia is my favorite flower, jasmine and lily. The floral scents serve as the sweet opening that would have been otherwise provided by fruits. No fruits in this fragrance! I love when that happens! This is mainly a floral woodsy fragrance. The woods are soft and not dark. Sandalwood, amber and honey keep it together in a skin scent of warmth, sexiness, elegance, and feminine beauty. I can't smell this on a guy. This is also a very mature fragrance so I would say this is for women who are still in the game and dating in their 30's. I love the Estee Lauder fragrances. I recommend this scent for women who want to enhance their beauty with perfume.

Sensuous is a skin scent in the sense that it has a skin like fragrance to it, not in the sense that it does not project far. In fact, Sensous was noticeable to anyone talking to me when I wore it.

Sandalwood is paired with honey and black pepper. There are vague powdery floral top notes. The quality of scent is a bit synthetic and unnatural.I would say “perfume-y” but that it feels silly to say that but I know some poeple would know exactly what I mean. However, I do like it. A sexy warm fragrance that is versatile for both day and night. It gives the impression of dried down perfume on warm skin which I find suggestive: sexy and intimate. Has a lasting power around 4-6 hours.

I absolutely ADORE this - the light, sweet honey, sandalwood, the woods & amber ALL of it!
I know that pepper is listed but it's way down in the ingredients and I can barely detect it. Really wish it would pack a bigger punch than just lingering delicately in the background.

At first spritz this is perfect and I wish the light woodsy notes would stick around a little longer. However, this turns into a skin scent quickly with that beautiful jasmine/orange drydown. I also get, and this is hard to describe, a distant lipstick scent from this perfume.
I wish my skin would just naturally smell like this all autumn long lol!

I like my winter scents to be strong and this is far from it so don't take my word for it - this could be absolutely perfect for the typical lady who wants a gorgeous peppery wood mixed expertly with sandalwood. It's just perfect for autumn nights, maybe even a frosty winter evening, out on a date or even to the office.

As a sidenote since this is so light yet long-lasting that it works quite well with layering. Kenzo Elephant smells divine as well as Adam Levine for Women, which bears a striking resemblance although the Levine has a big "vinegar" note that smells cheaper than this lush concoction. Have fun and experiment! :)

I have the EdP, code AC8. At first it is creamy and almost gourmand, with an orange tint. After an hour or more I get sandalwood, and it's not the "low quality" stuff either! The florals act to soften things up but are not obvious individually. And the amber isn't syrupy or supers-sweet. I am comfortable wearing it but I think men will be divided as to whether it is unisex or not (I usually use one spray). Overall, I'd classify this as a "higher end" designer scent, though if you already have one similar, for example Adam Levine's perfume, you may feel it is redundant. The wood note in this one, though, is stronger and more appealing (to sandalwood note fans, I'd guess).

I think it is ok and can see how it could be pleasant to others. I do appreciate that it is a nice perfume. The sandalwood is too much for me though. It smells very sharp or screeching on me. After a couple hours when the sandalwood has calmed down a bit it is better. Am glad to have tried to wear it, but don't want to own. Do own and love Sensuous Noir.

Very nice, smells like a gingerbread man, this is not a perfume to wear for clubbing, this is suitable for work or maybe going for a meal in the evening, its elegant

lalondem

love woody spicy in the cool weather, this is a pretty beautiful perfume.....nice magnolia coming through, very mature scent.....

LeVitrail

Cozy, tranquil, multidimensional & intimate.
Really good staying power (on me, it stays on all day).
It was a blind purchase and a very successful one.
For some reason, Sensuous reminds me of my mom even though she has never had this perfume.

I adore the balance of sweet, woody and tart citrus in this one. The honey is really beautiful and blends really well with the wood. It's not a super dry or herbal sandalwood, it's very deep, warm and sweet, almost a little sticky.

Over time I've really grown to appreciate it. It feels very familiar, and very womanly, almost motherly I would say. I would put it in the same family as L'Instant by Guerlain; super feminine, calm, warm honeyed wood with a light hint of flowers.

The only estee lauder perfume that i love..i got the 5ml set-white linen, pleasure, pleasure intense, beautiful, they do not impress me as this one..

unfortunately, the cap became loose, i lost more than half the content when the bottle fell..:(

Ouch!

I'm quite disappointed with this one. While it does actually smell good, it lacks in performance quite a bit.

I smell a citrus sandalwood at first with a dry tone behind. That really changes quite quickly though and it becomes a sweetened, but very dry peppery sandalwood. The pepper dries this out. Add some more dry woods to it and you have a blend that is not sensuous as such, more....lightly spiced?

It doesn't smell bad or anything, but..what lets it down is a lack of projection and longevity. This goes nowhere on me at all.

Never before have I worn a perfume that was this captivating. I have been followed in "quote" a number of places by men and asked what was I wearing. This is nothing like many perfumes that are overwhelming and loud. I smiled and said "Sensuous asking...". This is amazingly what drew me to just smell the perfume was the name "Sensuous". My husband has always said, "Honey, sensuous up will you..." I tried it just to test it and I was overwhelmed with how many asked people that one time stopped me and asked me what I was wearing. I have from that day only worn this perfume. I love this particular perfume only in this line.

Bought this perfume based on a sample. Which I'm thinking may have been a mistake. Just like everything/ most things in life, opinions are subjective. So for me, the scent didn't suit the name, as whenever I'm wearing it, I don't get that feeling aura. For this reason, I'm now using it to go work

fyrewoman

I agree the name Sensuous does not make sense. I must have detected the ever so faintest black pepper and shy woods from first spray for only 2 minutes. Not my idea of something to wear to endure a sensual mood. I sprayed this right before a long evening out on the town and good thing i had a backup of my signature cologne in my purse to spray on top. Sensuous did not even mix with my Sand n Sable or help it project more. On my skin it's rather boring for summer time.

I echo what Svetlana says. It is a nice comforting scent on warm evenings. Good longevity and sillage but I also find a jarring polymer note at times. I think it is the honey note. It can get almost indolic in heat and I don't like that. The sandalwoody note is so good it is worth it though and I reach for this a lot.

svetlana.kogan.73

There is nothing sensuous or sensual about this scent IMO. It is all about comfort and restful contemplation, which sandalwood and honey tend to convey to many people. I like to use it in the summer towards the end of the day. The contrast of sandalwood coolness and honey warmth feels pleasant. However, my nose also detects a strange artificial polymer note every time I apply Sensuous. This note does not belong in the overall harmonious composition. Thus, it is a "like", not a "love".

The more I use this fragrance, the more I appreciate it. It's warm yet soft, and the notes blend together seamlessly. I think that for its classification, it's a very feminine scent and indeed sensuous scent. And important for me, it's not a loud, brash perfume.

I wear this anytime -- day or night, winter or summer. Excellent longevity, too.

After wearing this today I felt compelled to leave a second review. I really am so baffled by the lasting power and sillage of this supposed EDP. They are none existent, five minutes after applying I could smell nothing, just a faint faint wood on my wrist and I applied around ten sprays. If I spray this and sniff it immediately it is gorgeous and could become one of my favourite scents of all time, but unfortunately I can't give that high esteem to a perfume that is gone before you walk out the door. Such a shame :-(

I bought it 2 years ago when I was 19. it's pretty sophisticated for teen I think. But I don't know somehow at Estee Lauder couter I chose this one over Estee Lauder pleasure. I liked it when I smell it at the store but when I came home I smell it again and I think it's too formal for me. So since I bought it I hardly use this scent only a few times in winter. Last night before I go to sleep, I spary it on my ears and my wrist I do not like the top note too pepery in there but when I woke up the tope note turn to the base not and it amazing "Like your skin but better" totally express this fragrance. this fragrance lasts long BUT you have to smell it close to your skin. I personally think Estee Lauder fragrances are underrated

Corinne39

Ooh I just love this.. It's everything you'd expect from an Estee Lauder fragrance..sophisticated, grown up (with out being too "mature", soft, warm, slightly heady and envelopes you like a gorgeous cashmere sweater.. Having said that though, and although it is quite "woody" I personally would wear this at any time of the year..(maybe not on the hottest summers' day, but certainly a summer evening).. I also really like the Nude flanker but I'll give the Sensuous Noir a miss!
