Carnal Flower by Frederic Malle is a Floral fragrance for women and men. Carnal Flower was launched in 2005. The nose behind this fragrance is Dominique Ropion.

Carnal Flower or forbidden flower is a fragrance with the scent of tuberose. Tuberose is a beautiful and dangerous flower. In some cultures, it is not allowed for young women to feel its intoxicating scent after sunset. Tuberose is a symbol of forbidden pleasure, hiding its passionate, sensual character behind its fresh, white, floral face. Its intoxicating scent seduces many perfumers; Frederic Malle and creator Dominique Ropion tried to repeat this scent in their particular way. Frederic Malle was inspired for Carnal Flower during his visits to California, where everything smells like gardenia and tuberose.

Dominique Ropion worked on development of the formula for more than two years. The perfume contains a larger dose of tuberose absolute than any other perfume. The composition opens with heavy, green notes of citrus leaves and branches. As tuberose develops, the green nuance passes into a note of camphora, which softens the opulent flowers unintrusively. Fruity nuances of melon and coconut add light and slightly gourmet sound to the composition and do not attract attention. The muse for this perfume was Frederic Malle’s aunt, famous actress Candice Bergen, who acted in the movie Carnal Knowledge with Jack Nicholson.

The top notes contain: bergamot, melon and eucalyptus.
The middle notes include: ylang-ylang, jasmine, tuberose, Salicylates (natural, toxic product of herbal origin, a sort of a herbal feromone which is used by plants as a warning).
The base encompasses: tuberose absolute, orange blossom absolute, coconut and musk.

The perfume was created in 2005.

It’s just too strong. Overpowering and too much. Feels like flowers on steroids, trying to punch you, and usually I like strong perfumes.
But when it dries down it’s feminine and really beautiful.
Anyways, I prefer to smell it on someone else.

Rating: 😳🤤
Do I like it: Yep
Who it is: a bride on the celebration having wedding cake in the grassy field
Smells I get: tuberose, milk, crushed leaves, tad of vanilla
Meyer's Briggs type: ESFJ, ESTJ

What a beautiful picture! 😍 🌿 🌺🥛

Smells creamy, lactonic, coconutty, smooth. A true tuberose, very reminiscent of Amouage Love Tuberose, except greener, with a bunch of bitter cut leaves and a bit of sweet, dry earth later on. 🌿

Smells like standing in a field of real tuberose flowers whilst holding a cup of milk. It's like a wedding cake, a bouquet and a grassy field all in one. Delectable.

As it's highly indolic, i can see it pulling a bit camphor-y on some noses, but to me there is no camphor or anything pissy about this wonderful composition.

An erotic wedding fragrance.

vipariously

Opens bitter; reminds me of cigarettes, yuck.

The unpleasant smell slowly fades away after about an hour to leave behind a nice tuberose.

If you like tuberose, just get Do Son by Diptyque.

Edit: Partner and I agree that the drydown smells like play-doh.

ynluv3

I feel it smells very similar to custard apple leaves and has a slight scent of ripe custard apple. Besides, there is the smell of tuberose (of course).

FreshlyPoorly

Smells like the woman who ruined your life. A venus flytrap of a fragrance. The camphoraceous tuberose makes me feel uneasy when it approaches the edge of the fleshy melon and coconut, but it soothes when it is swaddled in musk. Before I went in for a 50ml bottle I would stay up at night haunted, sure I could just smell it in the air, reconstructing it in my mind.

A comp that will be useless and uninteresting to most; LIL by Olympic Orchids is doing something completely different, sharing hardly a note, but to me feels like a tropical tulpa of CF. Both evoke a chilliness you can feel in your throat while still maintaining something so vibrantly green and naturalistic. To me, a clear statement about the cruelty and splendor of the natural world, deeply linked to the feminine.

I could be mistaken, but when this was released it never claimed to have a eucalyptus note - and trying a brand new sample (2024), there still isn't one(?) I'm assuming it's the slight camphor note that tuberose possesses.

Enough about that - this is polarizing, just as any tuberose before is. There are a few tame 'tubes that are brilliant - ie. Twilly, this is not part of that crowd.

Whats most impressive about this perfume is its lasting appeal. Ropion has created a powerful tuberose in the 80s (Ysatis), 90s (Amarige), 2000 (this), and somehow skipped the 2010s because this is still so popular.

Regardless, it's a coconut-y, strong tuberose. Be cautious with application. It *will* remain on clothing indefinitely.

This is more of a note-to-self rather than a review.
This is the most gorgeous tuberose that ever was or ever will be. Truly enchanting and very, well, carnal.
My previous bottle fell and smashed in my favorite room of the house, and the room smelled like it for weeks. It was a glorious death by Carnal Flower OD lol. Needless to say, I still can’t bring myself to wear it without being reminded of the time an insanely high concentration of this scent surrounded me and overpowered my life for a while. I’ll have to wait till I miss it again.

Scrabtree417

Ugh...camphor! It has to be my least favorite note. It literally ruins everything. I like eucalyptus and peppermint oil for my home diffusor but I do not want it with my white floral perfume. No thanks.

babyjill

Exquisitely beautiful and deeply unpleasant. If Brigitte Bardot was a perfume!

hazrit

my favorite white floral/tuberose so far in my perfume journey... i love this scent. I have a sample and a very good dupe. I love pulling on a sweater that still carries this scent, it's so cozy and sensuous. that eucalyptus note is what does it for me. it's not girlish, generic, or soapy like a lot of white florals- it's interesting, surprising, complex. For me it's an all-occasion perfume, and though it doesn't pack a punch for the kind of night when you want to stand out- it isn't over the top, but it's also not at all boring, so it works for most occasions.

ingrid.superstar

I played around with a dabber sample of this for a while; clearly it was fascinating, but I went back and forth about whether I would actually wear it (notwithstanding the fact that dabbers are basically impossible to get a proper wear out of). Okay, so, after deciding I wouldn’t enjoy wearing it, I started to build it up in my imagination again, and sprang for a 50ml bottle when I found a good deal.

I am sincerely asking myself where I am going to wear this beautiful oddity. I feel as though it belongs at a botanist’s conference. I think to me it does not even really feel like perfume as such. It’s so incredibly naturalistic and wild — green, minty, creamy, soapy, austere, bittersweet, and huge. I am wondering what I have done bringing this huge phantom into my life. I am in awe of it, and I don’t know what to do with it. I sprayed it once on a card, and I’m not sure when is the right time to test it on me. This scent, on me?! Well, I’ve never felt this way before; maybe I am so in love —a secret I’m keeping from myself — that I can’t think straight.

black_orchid

Best realistic floral fragrance on the world!

Why aren't all the notes added?

Carnal Flower by Frederic Malle is an ode to the dual nature of tuberose, masterfully captured by Dominique Ropion. This fragrance is a journey through the forbidden, a bold exploration of tuberose's intoxicating and sensual depths veiled behind its pristine, floral facade. Crafted with an unprecedented concentration of tuberose absolute, it begins with a vibrant burst of bergamot and melon, quickly giving way to a heart where tuberose reigns supreme, flanked by ylang-ylang and jasmine. The unexpected twist of eucalyptus and the creamy whisper of coconut add layers of complexity, without overshadowing the star ingredient. Inspired by the lush gardens of California and the allure of the forbidden, Carnal Flower is a fragrant masterpiece that balances the intoxicating with the delicate, embodying the essence of sensuality and natural beauty.

annetreasure

Addiction Alert!! So strangely intoxicating that I sniff it like an addict, and I have even taken to putting it on cloth and holding it up to my nose like a vapor rub, probably from the camphor. It totally morphs from medicinal camphor and eucalyptus to sweet grassy green. The jasmine isn’t obvious, but draws you in and the tuberose is last and smells like cream, and last smells like the skin of a sexy person. It’s the most nonlinear scent ever. I have spent so much money trying to find another scent that has that nonlinear addictiveness that can make me explode and I just have not found it. It has turned me into an a perfume addict searching for another high.
I have atomizers on my desk at work to refresh it on my hands and get that opening smell every 2 hours or so. I wear it on my hands so that I myself can smell it. The dry down is absolutely creamy and subtly like the scent of sexy skin. It’s worth every penny of its high price. Price is the only reason I don’t dunk my whole body in a bath of this. Price is why I only wear it on my hand and arms because it’s for me to sniff and not waste it on others sniffing me. What a masterpiece!
PS. I loathe Baccarat Rouge, the worst most sickening cloying scent ever, and Jasmine Rouge is my second favorite scent just so you understand my olfactory background. I use Gucci Bloom(s) as a body scent base for others to smell me, versus carnal flower which is for me to smell it.

alternateu

I'm in agreement with @Ezphi - incredibly bitter, green and ?astringent close up.
Wafted in the air, it's a nicer, greener, fresher almost minty tuberose.
Unfortunately, the ylang-ylang pulls VERY dusty on my skin both close up and far away, and ruins the perfume for me.

Scent: 4.5/10
Projection: Strong
Longevity: Average
Polarity: Unisex to masculine, actually (feels like a "tuberose for men")

Grefvinnan

I totally have a crush on this, and I don’t even like tuberose or jasmine.

cocteaugrl

One thing I absolutely love is a nasty-ass tuberose that slaps you across the face…carnal flower, you will always be famous!!

Glyph

This would be too feminine for me to pull off, but it's still immediately recognizable as a masterpiece. I can separate almost all of the dominant notes in here, but at the same time they blend together seemlessly, and you can instantly tell how expensive the ingredients used were.

I see why this has the reputation it has. It's dominated by white florals (jasmine, neroli, and particularly tuberose), and ylang-ylang, but the eucalyptus and the coconut make it smell like more than just a posy. It's like a tropical garden near the beach in the South Seas. It's quite expensive, but I could see how this would seem worth it if this scent profile really floated your boat.

Franrose

I have purchased a bunch of samples to trial and of all of them, this is the only one I really dislike. I keep getting a whiff of a flower I don’t like - I was genuinely thinking onion weed until I looked up a picture of a tuberose and found my answer.

All the other notes that are meant to be in there I love - I live in Australia, we have eucalyptus in the house, jasmine in the garden, I can see a coconut palm across the way and there’s ylang ylang essential oil in my bathroom. But I get none of those, and this is one I have to wash off. Husband & teens dislike it too so it’s a hard no here. Hooray for samples!

I've been thinking for a long time about how to address Carnal Flower...I could talk about the endless compliments from both men and women, I could talk about the versatility of the scent, but I think I will tell my own little possibly boring anecdote about this perfume: 10 years ago I was a mischievous, angsty and lonely teenager in NYC and there was a Barney's outlet near my high school. At the time, my passion in life was truancy. I loved cutting class and stopping into Barney's to sniff all of the scents. The first time I smelled Carnal Flower at age 15, I was immediately in love. I had worn Angel as a tween, a fragrance I still love but wouldn't wear now. Carnal Flower, to me, felt like coming to my own conclusions without needing the go ahead from someone else. All I needed was 300 bucks to get a bottle of my own! I'm not exactly proud of how I procured my first 50mls of the juice, but towards the end of Barney's existence, it was really anything goes in there. I've gotten therapy. Anyway, it's been my signature ever since. Even as I've gone from a casual scent enjoyer to a full blown perfumehead, I have stood firm in my stance on CF: it's the best fragrance ever created. It's for the messy girls trying to become less messy women. BUT I guess it's also for my friend's ex boyfriend who wore this as a signature too which was awkward for a sec.

Ezphi

It's incredibly fresh, so much so that it's giving me overpriced air freshener vibes. I'm bad with notes, so I'm not sure if the medicinal smell that I’m getting is a result of CF's synthetic aspects, some odd sort of complexity with the heavy naturals, or something else, but I find it overwhelming and not very pleasant. It transports me to large hospitals, specifically their entrances/lobby areas, which aren't the most joyous places in the world. It's also not too far away from a hand sanitiser in terms of the smell and the sharpness that comes with it. Luckily, both attributes are significantly more palatable in this fragrance.

It seems to me that I simply wasn't born with the ability to tolerate Frederic Malle openings/top notes, and the medicinal tinge prevents me from respecting the dry down due to how perennial it is. I can respect how green and mature it smells, though. Perhaps my mind will change over time.

Update: It still smells like hand sanitiser, but that’s only if you stick your nose directly above where you've sprayed. I forgot that one is also supposed to appreciate the aura of a fragrance. So I went outside! Whilst walking, the overwhelming antiseptic element withered away in the air, and I finally discovered some clean, easygoing sweetness. This made me happy because I was confused about where the fuck the sweetness was located. The tuberose was finally dominant, and I think I could smell hints of the ylang-ylang and melon. I couldn’t make out anything else lol. For now, I can at least stomach the initial sharpness without panicking.

The scent sort of evolves into a semi-bitter hand sanitiser on a bad day when that weird medicinal note decides to usurp representation over the other ones. On a good day, the scent is redolent of a luxurious body lotion from a decent hotel. The only catch to all of this is that I sprayed CF almost exclusively on my clothing. My skin chemistry still says no, unfortunately.

Much prefer this over PoaL.

bjorksattorney

I know this is supposed to be the tuberose to end all tuberoses, but I mostly got jasmine and orange blossom! I like but don’t love jasmine, and almost never want to smell like it. It dried down to a beautiful mix of white flowers, but my nose didn’t zero in on tuberose. I wish it had, because that's what all the reviews led me to expect. I’m looking for a super intense tuberose to replace a strong pure tuberose extrait oil my sister brought me from India, that I fear using up. This is lovely but not my tuberose.

Surfinirfin

The best floral fragrance I have ever smelled.

If roses are not your thing nor iris, please check this out. Get a sample or travel size if you’re unsure.

It definitely has a mint, maybe not mint i hate mint, but a fresh smell and some florals but give it 20-40mins and an explosion of florals.

Please try this out. 10/10

I love tuberose, so I love carnal flower. It doesn't get anymore simple than that. I get a fresh, green, sweet tuberose. The eucalyptus scent is very obvious, but it doesn't bother me; some might find it medicinal, but it complements the sweetness of the tuberose very nicely. Bubblegum-y but natural smelling.

ayamayapyjama

It's beautiful, very realistic. A perfume that costs less and is highly similar to my nose is Terracotta by Guerlain.

dokei

I love tuberose as a note, thats why i got this. It says this has tuberose absolute, not exactly sure how thats different from normal tuberose oils (very uneducated on tuberose primary chemicals). But it is STRONG, almost too strong.
I get tuberose as the star of the show the whole time with other stuff on the side, like at the start you get some bergamot (im guessing) and then for me it gets pretty linear with all the notes perfecting tuberose out.
A lot of performance, A lot of silage. A bit womanly or to be used in somewhat of a professional setting imo.

I feel like in 5 6 years this will get reformulated and people miss the chance to get the perfume that it is now, like with Aventus or Oud for Greatness. Id suggest the 30ml if you like tuberose and can comfortably spend what it costs like that, just so you can appreciate what tuberose can be, unlike the whole sun lotion bunch that you usually get with tuberose.

GreatGreyOwl

Tuberose, coconut and eucalyptus. The coconut is on the verge of becoming too sweet and heavy, but eucalyptus keeps it in check. This has very strong projection and ok longevity.

Another similar perfume is Moon Bloom by Hiram Green. That one is somewhat less fresh but more rich.

cgaleb

Such an absolute beauty of a perfume. I’ve never been a big fan of tuberose, such as perfumes like My Way, but this is a stunner. The tuberose morphs from green to creamy, always sweet, but never candy sweet. The name of this perfume is perfect for the scent. Stunning. A must try type of perfume, as it’s one for the history books of perfumery.

SaraMiriam8

Ok, so i tried the famous Portrait of a Lady and was one of the worst scents I'ever tried in my life, but still decided to try more from this brand and.... I'm so glad i did!

This one was a beautiful suprise! White florals usually are borderline headache inducing to me, but this one is done SO WELL! It starts with a green blast of eucaliptus (and i kinda get a nutty undertone that i love) and then it dries down to the most elegant and creamy florals ever.

Heliodora

This right here is a masterpiece of perfumery.
It opens with a realistic foliage/green note, specifically I am picking up on the new, still green branches that trees sprout in the spring, maybe a hint of lilac somewhere. Then it becomes about the jasmine and the tuberose; the jasmine is green and unapologetically floral, and the tuberose is creamy and mellow (perhaps thanks to the coconut note), and they go so well together - they're the embodiment of a spring garden in full bloom. But the initial green notes never completely disappear; the flower that I always have in my mind because of that, is lily of the valley. They're very beautiful, you are drawn to them; want to lean in closer to smell them, but.. they are also poisonous. They silently emanate a hidden lethal power. You have to be wary around them. Which is how I imagine people feel about the woman, who is wearing Carnal flower, as well.

It's very concentrated, beast mode projection and longevity - as one would expect. Personally, I am saving it for special occassions in my life. The price is very steep, but for some people, inclusing myself, it is worth it. I will finally be purchasing a full bottle this year.

Jadewihongi

I came into this fragrance thinking it would be a vintage-like white floral, evoking images of opulence, seduction and old-Hollywood glamour. Instead, it brings to mind the Queensland coast of Australia.

There’s a big eucalyptus hit on the opening, with a subtle medicinal, nose-burning effect like decongestant Olbas oil. It then dries down to mostly white floral tuberuse, with lingering eucalyptus leaf, melon and coconut, which combine to give it a unisex feel and cooling effect.

An easier and more refreshing summer wear than Do Son, but for me it needed time to settle into something that's pleasant.

JoyMac

This really smells like Australia in a bottle. Crushed Eucalyptus leaves, coconut beach, heady florals, summer sunscreen, a little bit of tropical Bali vibe. Im wearing today in middle of the Australian summer, 35 degrees, and she is a masterpiece❣️

mikinestor

I remember smelling"Carnal Flower" in Rome for the very first time in a perfumerie near Piazza Navona. I was walking almost daily to the same place to get a little drop on my wrist, it was all so intoxicating. An exquisite smell, that sticks into the brain and stays with you. I have just finished it and now I use "Le Baiser du Dragon" but I confess missing the CF bottle.

leahlzander

This is the Brigitte Bardot of perfumes: exquisitely beautiful and deeply unpleasant. On me, the eucalyptus drowns out every other note. It burns my sinuses like pure menthol. While I appreciate the mastery, I just can't warm up to this ice queen.

Sophia97

I would simple say it is the best floral you can buy. Buy it. It's also a perfect summer fragrance without citrus. I feel like I'm in the garden of filled with white floral dancing wearing the perfect dress. It's unique in it's own way, but defintely in a good way!

tamun

This has changed a bit over the nine years I've been wearing this fragrance, but it's still one of my favourites and nothing smells like it. Most tuberose fragrances for me lean toward a sticky bubblegum quality, but this is fresh, green, and oh so pretty. It's very floral without reading as flowery, somehow. It was my introduction to niche fragrance and will always remind me of some time I spent in a medicinal forest in Bali. Crushed fragrant leaves of lime and nutmeg, steeping tiger balm ingredients in coconut oil, frangipani, neroli, tuberose, and jasmine in bloom at night after the rain, with the very distant smoke of incense wafting in the cool, humid air. It's heady and sexy, dark and fresh, and ostentatious in a very elegant way.

This has an enormous sillage but I tend to go overboard because I love it so much. I must learn restraint with this one as I know it precedes me (though I've only ever received compliments, I still don't consider that to be a good thing).

Juventusy

Amazing! The only thing that surpasses it is Portrait of a Lady. (They have nothing to do with each other just overall) other than that this is soooooooooo good.

c0rtland

the most gorgeous wearing experience out of my collection. my favorite from DR. next level. i rarely even like tuberose. study bitcoin.

Moein_Ashraf

This perfume is very fragrant, strong, heavy, luxurious and lovely . The notes of tuberose, eucalyptus and jasmine are dominant . The opening it's like a freshly cut of eucalyptus leaf for me . It reminds me of these perfumes : Royal Mayfair by Creed, and also White Flowers by Creed . Be sure to try it .

Q80

Fresh green flowers cut...

A bouquet of very fresh white floral cut that you can smell it's youth, the adolescent of that white floral. As you can detect the very powerful strength of that young while floral spreading and hitting almost everywhere and that simplified in the mix of young fresh tuberose cuts underneath the chunky powerful jasmines, with some ylang, fresh orange blossoms, and the bergamot for the spread with some eucalyptus.

This blend is enormously powerful white floral for those who loves the white floral and fresh gardens in general. Beautiful.

xxvxx

Exotic to the west but as a south east asian, this just smells like Thai massage oil lol

bri.rom

This reminds me of a perfect Australian day at the beach amped up with concentrated elegence. Exotic white flowers, smooth coco-melon creaminess, and the smell of Blue Gum Eucalyptus intoxicating the summer air.

This fragrance thrives in warm and humid conditions, and works for day or night.

Unique and amazing!

Cadera97

For those in Brazil: just layer Acqua Fresca with Lily eau de parfum, both from O Boticário, e voilá. Thank me later.

Tooturntswizz

Carnal Flower offers an unapologetic burst of tuberose and jasmine, projecting its presence boldly. It has a captivating aura, though it might not suit every taste.

This fragrance carries a classic air reminiscent of Chanel, but with an enhanced twist. The expert blending reveals the prominence of eucalyptus and a subtle backdrop of bergamot and citrus, adding a zesty touch.

Coconut notes in the background builds upon this, giving creamy exotic subtleties.
Multifaceted mastery, every note almost slots together like a jigsaw puzzle to create this well rounded gem.

While marketed as unisex, Carnal Flower leans predominantly feminine, making it an excellent addition to the collection of fragrances from this distinguished house.

bigtool_4u

I'm still getting my head around green notes, but I'm always amazed by the dimensions to Frederic Malle perfumes. The initial green note threw me off but the dry down is such a fluffy glowing white floral. From one moment to the next it's two different perfumes. It reminds me of walking down the street at sunset to go sit in the grass by the water with a very dear friend, it summons feelings of tenderness and awe

darkprism

TLDR: Unique scent for nature lover

Smell like: Walk into a grass field. Pick random fresh green thing that doesn't run away. Crush them into oil. Make it fresh and pleasant. Spread it over freshly cut watermelon.

At this point, I can't believe that this fragrance is my introduction to the fragrance world. It is a unique scent I've yet to see in any designer fragrance. Wear it whenever you want to touch grass. It is green, and flowery in a subtle tone with hidden sweet under the leaves. If you can bottle a dryad, and I mean girly dryad not the Warhammer type one, this will be what she smells like.

It's certainly a pleasant wear, but probably not fit every occasion which is nice. I'd wear it in the evening if I stay in a city, because it will remind me of home. The price also reminds me of the mortgage of the house. Good job designer!

PeacefulSunshine

GREEN NOTE ALERT!!!

I simply can't get over how bad the initial green top note is. I think it must be the eucalyptus or camphor. It's been a while that I've sprayed the perfume on me and that's all I can smell despite the other notes existing. I love tuberose and white florals so I was hoping I would enjoy this but I can't smell anything else but the green notes.

... like omg it is so bad! If you are a white flower/tuberose love but don't enjoy green notes, STAY AWAY!!! The initial green notes are so overwhelming and bitter. This is the same reason why I can't do Chanel No. 19. The white notes can't make up for the power of the green notes. I'm so disappointed in this one.

david.kju

This fragrance is a true embodiment of exoticism and freshness.

Let's start with the Tuberose, which brings sweet and floral notes to the scent. Its rich aroma adds a touch of luxury and mystique.
Eucalyptus introduces freshness to the fragrance, with hints of green and minty coolness.
Jasmine brings excitement and sensuality, emphasizing the floral aspects of the composition.
Coconut and Orange Blossom give the fragrance an exotic sweetness and tropical warmth.
Ylang-Ylang adds floral and slightly spicy notes, making the scent bright and emotional.
White Musk imparts purity and longevity to the fragrance.
Melon brings lightness and juiciness, akin to a ripe fruit.
Bergamot adds fresh citrusy undertones to the fragrance, making it brighter and more vibrant.

This composition creates an impression of a fresh and exotic scent, bringing vivid colors and joy as if you were strolling under the tropical sun.

WitchQueen

This is tuberose at it's most glorious. It's a work of art. However after finishing the sample I don't have any real desire to buy a bottle because I don't really want to smell like tuberose, but if I did I would be saving up.

massimilianoinquieto

Ecco.

Ugh!! This is a masterpiece of a fragrance. Tuberose when it is done right is absolutely incredible and I love it. Carnal flower is a sensual and creamy scent that enlightens and captivates the senses of whoever smells it. This is literally sex in a bottle. But not cheap or trashy. It’s classy and elegant with a hint of sexiness. I think of personalities like Marilyn Monroe when I smell this or Naomi Campbell for example. They captivate you with their siren like qualities. But also have an innocence which is intriguing.

#261 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

This is my second fragrance from this designer, the first being "Vetiver Extraordinaire" which was indeed extraordinary in performance, but also in its high price that I thought unjustified. Carnal Flower is also a good performer. I'm a fan of white florals, which can definitely lean feminine, but they're in the right balance here for this scent to be justifiably labeled unisex.

I usually would throw anything with camphor as a note straight in the trash bin without trying it, but based on my last experience with a Malle fragrance this sample vial went on my chest with abandon. The camphor note is not strong enough to come across as Vick's VapoRub, but it's very noticeable, enough that I can taste it in the air and enough to make this fragrance a "no" for me even if I thought it was otherwise a $225 scent, which I don't. It's why I disliked Lacoste L.12.12., though priced reasonably.

For the men, I would recommend Bvlgari Man in Black and the flankers, especially Black Orient if you can still find it anywhere. There's also Armaf Niche White Diamond that goes for $33 and is widely available. All do tuberose. But seriously, you don't need to drop $225 for this Frederic Malle fragrance to get a nice scent in this category.

Elle's Bells

STUNNING!!!! You MUST be a tuberose lover to really be able to appreciate this work of art. This would make a gorgeous wedding day scent. A bottle will last you well over a decade!
Slightly animalic and green for the first 5 minutes, but stick with it because you will be rewarded with the most long-lasting sweet, and feminine floral fragrance. Ahhh..simply divine.

Silverquick

This is growing on me and improving as spring warms up. A punch of menthol on the opening with a breezy feel, cool, damp and lush greenery with a floral that intensifies and adds some touches of spice and pollen as it wears. An untamed feeling like a crazy jungle that’s somehow sentient.

I’m enjoying my decant and will continue to discover her charms.

francesco_grieco

Carnal Flower by Frederic Malle stands as a masterpiece among tuberose fragrances. This scent exudes a herbaceous and camphorous quality, evoking a unique ambiance reminiscent of antique pharmaceutical laboratories with their rich wood paneling and marble desks. It offers a dignified and elegant departure from the more repetitive interpretations often associated with the concept of 'timeless.'
While faithfully capturing the essence of real tuberose, Carnal Flower goes beyond mere representation. Much like fine dining establishments that elevate a single raw ingredient with meticulous precision, focusing on subtle enhancements rather than major changes or additions, this fragrance approaches perfection in its portrayal of tuberose.
The only potential drawback, if it can be considered one, is that it may require a discerning audience to fully appreciate and elicit compliments.

The Lady Grenouille

I bought a tiny and bank breaking sample of this and have sat all morning enveloped in a cloud of intoxicating perfume which lasted a good five hours. It is both beautiful and intense, but I feel like we have already met and have been wracking my brains as to our first encounter.

Finally I nailed it...On my skin, there are major similarities between this and Tom Fords Black Orchid. The ylang-ylang , jasmine and citrus notes are present in both...yet this is cleaner, sharper and I am not sure I would tire of this as I did with Black Orchid. I had a colleague who rushed out to buy a bottle of Black Orchid after asking me what I was wearing, only to proclaim it didn't smell the same when she wore it, so perhaps it is these notes that agree with me.

There is definitely a menthol note which is agreeable in that it feels as though it opens up your airways enabling you to inhale this all the way to the base of your spine. I swear I could taste is as I sipped my morning coffee. It is enchanting and has most definitely led me to explore further the world of Frederick Malle. I have ordered some more samples that I am excited to try, Musc Ravaguer, Portrait of a Lady and Biguarade. I am hoping I may discover a friend for life.

gummypepsi

I was lucky enough to receive a bottle from 2005, the original formulation of this haunting masterpiece. I'm not the biggest floral guy, but this smells absolutely gorgeous. This flower is exceptionally beautiful. There is a contrast between its sharp edges and creaminess but it blends together so well harmoniously, almost like a dance between light and dark. This is a work of art, a mood and a lifelong dedication and passion.

abc1111

Smells so much like sampaguita flowers from the Philippines (jasmine sambac). Realistic and more elevated sampaguita. Also some eucalyptus. I like it as a room fragrance, not on my skin.

Briar's Reign

This is my type of sexy. I can see some people thinking this is too "vintage". But to me, this is timeless elegance, sophistication, and class. If you don't like tuberose, I'd not recommend this. But it really is enchanting. Sillage is very strong too! A little quieter than beast-mode but still 👀. I was skeptical about this house, despite hearing so many people rave about it. Granted, this is the first fragrance I've sampled from them, but what a great start!

Edit: This might just replace Alien for best sexy white floral. This is softer than Alien though.

melisachao

The gods themselves gave us Carnal Flower for us mere mortals to enjoy. The day I smelled Carnal Flower I fell in love with fragrances. This is the most perfectly made perfume I have ever experienced and the best perfume I have ever smelled. I want to throw it on myself by the bucket but of course that is cost prohibitive. The perfume tells a story throughout the day, opens like a literal tuberose crushed in your hand, then the coconut comes in, the sunscreen smell, the beach, then it dries down to a clean lovely skin scent after about 7 or 8 hours, and lasts another 3 hours with the creamy tuberose always in the background. This smells like rich ladies at the pool. The ones with MONEY – who can afford the good drinks and the flowers and the good Shiseido sunscreen and the couples massages with premium oils and creams. It smells like them. I imagine this is what Salma Hayek smells like on vacation. I will pay for it over and over, no matter what the price is.

In most perfumes, there is creamy Carnal Flower tuberose and there is sweet Fracas tuberose (which I don’t like). This is an explosion of the creamy one, so if you love it- you must have this in your collection. There are no dupes because you can’t recreate it (though Flora Carnivora from Henry Rose comes within a few kilometers of the scent, but then turns sweet). This scent is unmatched.

EdHardyJailer

Creamy eucalyptus..that’s pretty much it. Makes my stomach turn.

EDIT: a few days later..and I actually really enjoy it!

black_orchid

Most relistic and artistic white flower symphony. I finished countless bottlw of this because It suits my spirit and also it’s my most complimented perfume so far. People always ask me about my perfume when I wear it. Once stranger told me I’m smell like fresh mountain air and green forest which made him happy.

Vika111

Oh why doesn't this perfume stay for more than 30 min on my skin???

2019perfume

It is the same scent but mix with 50 percent water..it has been ton down it doesn't project like it used to

Waterman333

Honestly I dig it. It's a strong tuberose. If you are expecting anything else you'll be disappointed but at the same time this is THE tuberose scent. Eucalyptus makes this wearable for men, but it's still pretty fem. I dig it, I just wish my body chemistry worked better with it.

Ana260189

Got a sample size just to try it. All I can smell is the white florals and the jasmine, they dominate over any other notes it might have. Not my sort of perfume, it will be a hard pass. I agree with the reviewer below saying it's Chanel no.5 kind of perfume.

astralmonad870

Oddly enough, I detected no melon, only a white floral bomb of tuberose and jasmine. But at some point in the drydown a disgusting and foul animalic note appeared and then it disappeared as the scent faded.

strawberrystar

This is beautiful, smells very elegant and grown up. On the days where I find it a tad bit too floral, I layer it with a nice vanilla. Gorgeous.

BloomingSomewhere

this is pure heaven to me. it smells like biting into a juicy cool melon in a lush tropical rainforest with gorgeous night-blooming flowers all around you. the flowers are your accessories and you're a drop-dead gorgeous nature goddess 🌿

your hair is falling in perfect curls around your shoulders and you just feel ✨ heavenly ✨ as it dries down it becomes beyond refreshing. it's very natural, like how a drop of nectar from an actual tuberose would smell. this is a masterpiece!

DesertFlower2021

When I tried it for the first time (repeatedly) I lived in Dubai and even though I tried hard to understand and love this fragrance I just couldn’t. On my return to Europe and giving it a second go in summer here I am totally taken aback and finally experiencing all the well deserved hype. It blooms in heat, however, the humidity somehow ruins it. Perfection in a bottle. Love it and will repurchase once I finish my 100ml bottle.

O+M+D

A languorous glow that wears close to the skin, enhancing its sensuality, and blossoms beautifully in the heat.

Vaguely tropical on me as the coconut comes forward during the dry down but nevertheless an extremely high quality, realistic, lustful tuberose throughout its life.

tarajane91

Carnal Flower truly shines in the heat. I don't really get the eucalyptus, but the melon note is like a juicy, sweet honeydew melon versus a fresh watermelon, and it combines wonderfully with the tuberose to give a tropical vibe which lasts up to 6 hours on my skin. Penhaligon's Heartless Helen is very similar albeit less complex.

Ellesscents

I'm Madly in love and Intoxicated with thisfragrance, both on myself and my husband because on us it does something different for the skin. Yes, a heady bright (not sharp, but definitely full) dripping Dewy wet tuberose, with a Dewy rich melon and a delightful fresh seemless blend of eucalyptus that feels like a shower of fresh rain. The bergamot brightens, and the coconut makes it warm, smooth, laconic so it doesn't sit to far or dissonant from the skin. On me it's rich, Opulent, flirtatious. Even fully buttoned I feel like it's the equivalent of gorgeous cleavage. On my husband his skin is a bit woods, it takes on the coconut and the white flowers don't seem as bright or like a Bouquet so much as sitting in the blend. He smells like he brought me to a rich garden in a tropical forest. In the spring it is sparkling, in the summer, a bit lusty. I'd even wear it in winter but it could easily feel sharp and heavy handed if too much in the cold of say January. My all time love fragrance for my most special moments, a Surrealist flower that feels hyper dimensional and a bit futuristic.

nicolevivi

Giving me that Chanel 5 old lady white flower vibes

Angekkuma

most incredible fragrance ive experienced. holy fuck

tuberose heavy but make it so beautiful it actually becomes hypnotic and completely out of this world. lush and in heaven. more of an experience. be careful, i wouldn't wear this around those who don't Understand.

i wore my sample of this for the first time on the 4th of july while watching fireworks. carnal flower mixed with my cigarette smoke, the best street hot dog on earth that i was eating, and the smell of firework smoke everywhere will forever be the closest to heaven i will get. this fragrance is so good it makes me scared. it's overwhelming and powerful, i feel like i'm being forced into its whims. it is impossible for me to wear it "casually". it's like taking a psychedelic. a work of art.

Tuberosa80

Sono giorni che penso ad una recensione per questo profumo, ma niente , nessuna parola basterebbe, dico solo che è il vestito più bello, sexy e allo stesso tempo confortevole che io abbia mai indossato, lo amo follemente

karolisjachimavicius

name very on point - these flowers wanna eat you alive. nuff said.

81ghazal1314

I played myself by buying a sample of this cause how can I enjoy a perfume ever again after this glory? And it's so expensive too so I was hoping that I wouldn't like enough to want a bottle. But damn I- I'm completely speechless. If you're a tuberose flower lover (the fresh flower itself, not the mature and strong and sharp fragrances) this will send you right up to heaven. The top note is very realistic tuberose and green and also a little earthy which reminds me of the scent of earth after rain. Then a few minutes later the greeness gets much smoother and the melon and Ylang Ylang make the tuberose very creamy and kinda sweet but still very realistic and with the earthy scent in the background. It's sooooooo classy and lady like, tbh I prefer this on women than on men but I guess men would love wearing this too. It's just so nice. The performance is mosterous as it fills the entire room and you'll keep smelling ur perfume. I guess one could use this as a signature scent but I, a very normal 20 year old girl from a middle class family, would personally just buy a bigger sample and use it only if the president invites me to his/her house or sth lol.

creamyandlight

Odd name for what is a blast of fresh white florals. SUCH a fresh topnote, really like you just cut a fresh flower. I wouldn't say this smells very dark or "carnal" at all. More like a wedding bouquet, or frolicking through a field of flowers in a sundress, but I love it! Very intensely pure floral scent. Not very unisex at all, in my opinion. Really debating getting it!

DTreadaway

Gorgeous, creamy tuberose! So divine and so intense! A very raw floral, that literally smells like your nose is in a bouquet of lovely white flowers. A little goes a long way with this beast of a fragrance. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart.

Atomikbomb_

I actually thought to myself - 'Wow. This is dangerous!', then I go on here and read the description, which literally calls this "dangerous". So, mission accomplished Mister Ropion!

This is not refined. It's not an easy fragrance to wear. It's not suitable for polite society, and it's certainly not for everyone. I feel like I would be absolutely yanked around by this scent if I wasn't mentally and emotionally prepared to wear this, certainly many days I wouldn't be up for it, and I don't think I would ever this multiple days in a row. It's INTENSE. I love strong perfume, but this is truly and *experience*. Despite it's density, I do think it's best worn in heat, it honors the composition to allow it to unfold completely in warm, humid weather. It's warm today, but I look forward to trying it again on even higher degree days.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around this, it's within the first hour now of spraying this, and I'm getting impressions of people with sensual intentions on a private beach in Indonesia. Somewhere utterly jungle-esqe, wild, green and rough...but breathtaking and primal. There's a coconut, powdery tone, like the meat of this is muddled alongside tuberose (stems and all), and other herbs. It truly is menthol-y and has an aromatic, opening effect on the body when you breathe it in, I wouldn't be surprised if this contained real eucalyptus.

It's a very deep floral smell, the jasmine and orange blossom aren't overtly noticeable to me, but they serve to amplify facets of the tuberose itself. There are smooth tones, there are rough edges...it's an explosion of greens and whites. It's intoxicating.

It dries down gorgeously and becomes creamier and almost milky...which is brilliant. The support ylang ylang and coconut help accentuate that quality of the tuberose.

I think I would be content purchasing another sample or two of this, although I do adore it. For one, it's expensive as heck. But also, I probably wouldn't wear this consistently, and when I do, ONE small spray is more than adequate. Goodness though, this is stunning perfumery. I just can't even say much that hasn't already been said, and it lives up to the respect it's earned from other reviewers that I've seen/read. It's a perfume that helps you travel without leaving home.

It's arguably perfect in my mind, I have absolutely no complaints. It's a true 10.

Kimberly917

Carnal Flower is a very well constructed perfume. The tuberose has a waxy characteristic. I wonder if this is accomplished with the addition of the coconut and eucalyptus in just the right amount. There is a lot going on in this fragrance. Even with the addition of the camphor and eucalyptus this is a heavy white floral. The camphor combined with the eucalyptus give it a minty menthol note that reminds me a little of Tubereuse Criminelle. Usually I do not like coconut in fragrance but this is quite nice. This is the sort of fragrance that shouldn't be rushed. It is a fragrance that needs time to develop. It has many stages. I bought a travel size which was quite expensive. I can appreciate Carnal Flower for the beauty that it is, but I'm not sure yet if it is for me.

Gavarrus

Starts off as a green and realistic white floral scent, then gradually turns milder and sweeter. Drydown is quite pleasant.

agnes_holl

You're in a hot, humid jungle surrounded by enormous flesh-eating plants and white flowers; a tuberose fever dream. I like it! I feel like Gramma Tala would smell like this.

Caldrumr

A very strong (read: overpowering), very feminine tuberose and eucalyptus.
Extremely powerful, but not at all in a good way.
It would be a scrubber, except it doesn't come off.
I am not a fan.

passthemustard

I don’t find this pretty. It’s not pleasant or sweet or nice. This fragrance is salacious. It is the definition of truth in advertising. My husband is not safe when I am wearing Carnal Flower and he doesn’t mind at all.

Cyberyuki

I like this scent but this is too expensive. Long lasting perfume. I feel mostly tuberose and coconuts. It’s sexy, on the other hand, it’s good for vacation. Magical scents.

Ash212

Blind order. Yes, I'm crazy but these are my dream notes. Tuberose? Jasmine? Eucalptus? Melon? Yes! Once I got it, it hit me like a BOMB! More than two sprays and you might cause a nuclear explosion.

This smells to my slightly educated nose like a REAL flower. Imagine putting your nose to some white flowers and inhaling, this is it. I do get a slight menthol smell but I was expecting more eucalyptus, the leaves and bark (flowing in the air) have an incredible smell. I often stop on my walks to just take in that smell. I've been chasing that smell but I don't think it exist in a bottle.

I was worried about the "mature" comments and the coconut comments were turning me off as I tire very quickly of the smell of coconut. I'm happy to report that generally all you get is a white floral in a bottle. If you like florals no need to worry about the 'maturity' of this. I just don't get those comments. No powder or soap or any of that to me - just a clean sharp floral.

Carnal Flower reminds me of a toned down (in terms of sophistication and sweetness) JPG So Scandal. That sharp (tuberose) note lingering in So Scandal without the rest if you can imagine. I enjoy both and am in my 20s :D

Lenhi

The opening gave me headache. Drydown is fine, i don't get anything else than tuberose, probably because i dont like this fragance that much. This can be unisex, lean a bit more feminine imo. This fragrance is definitely not for warm weather, last 8 hours on me and projects REALLY well. Not my thing, 6.8/10

gedlive

I got a 3.5 ml to try, and really like it.
The tuberose and ylang ylang were my least favorite flowers, but fine here.
I like gender neutral floral frags, not when they get girly. But this is a nice white floral that's classy for guys as well.
The coconut and eucalyptus give it great balance. It's not overly tuberose dominant. It smells a bit like gardenia, a favorite floral.
I lost my smell from covid 18 months ago, it's only 50% back. I am glad this projects quite well, the white florals come through strongly.
I like it because it's not Carnal in an animalic sexy way. It is carnal in an indulgent way. It's sweet, tropical, coconuty, and loads of white florals.
I may have liked it a little less sweet. Loree Rodkin's Gothic III is very similar white floral, but less sweet, more like Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia.

I respect Frederic Male as about the best house now, as Guerlain has gone down hill. Have about 12 of their frags, and will be looking for a good deal on Carnal Flower...

Rating: 8.5/10

God bless. John 3:16

i think a lot of people who dislike this fragrance go into it expecting something sweet, like the classic bubblegum-y tuberose and coconut or white florals. its not at all what you might expect.

i sprayed this for the first time yesterday at a luxury store, and the first thing i said to the saleswoman was: "this smells like you cut open the stem of a flower and took a whiff." i get the initial blast of spa-green floral and eucalyptus. its an extremely realistic green. as it sat on my skin, a bit of melon- but not cantaloupe, i would say more of a honeydew. the subtle bitterness of bergamot might be what gives off the stem and leaf vibe. i dont get the jasmine at all for some reason.

if you are looking for a perfume that captures the scent of walking through a hazy french botanical garden on a particularly wet april while the gardeners are doing landscaping, go for this. for me, its just a tad boring. the longevity is also disappointing compared to other frederic malle frags.

_yoadriann

You’ve just checked into your 5 star resort in some tropical destinations.. You’re greeted by a lush, green, floral tsunami. The tuberose is a tsunami, followed by strong green after waves. As it settles down, the coconut comes through. You’re at a tropical resort after all. The tuberose fades quickly on me, which is a bit disappointing. That’s why I got it after all. I have plenty of green, coconut scents which is what you’re left with after not long. This is a great summer scent if you love coconut.

sundayinheaven

Carnal Flower is a tuberose forward scent. I also get just a hint of eucalyptus and some sunscreen vibes, which I’n guessing is from the coconut. I think it’s a nice fragrance but dare I say a little overrated maybe? I just don’t think it’s that special.

€ro$4her

Life is unfair. The biggest masterpiece of a fragrance happens to give me the biggest case of nose blindness. The first couple of times I properly wore it, I was surrounded by a dynamic aura of a most supernatural smell. It smells more than natural, I guess that's because the scent has been molecularly distilled in a laboratory.

I've read some very odd comparisons below, such as '$5 Chardonnay and a poopy diaper,' 'Spanish baby cologne (Nenuco),' and 'a pedestrian iteration of a summer vacation fragrance.'
Are you for real? I know it's subjective, but then referring to the colour red as green should be a matter of subjective interpretation and not necessarily wrong as well.

Such knee-jerk associations contribute as much meaning as the association of singing frogs with Montserrat Caballé. And you may subjectively prefer one to the other or both, but they are not the same nor similar in any meaningful way.

dilfluver777

this is an intense blast of musky menthol neroli. i honestly quite like it, the name carnal flower is very fitting. its quite an aggressive green white floral scent. i can definitely see how this is considered a masterpiece, all the notes are very present and you can definitely sniff them out individually, but they all blend and play with each other so well. the neroli is supported by the cool eucalyptus and kind of fizzes out from with musk. the ylang ylang has a creamy texture from the coconut and a ripeness from the melon. but then the tuberose overtone rounds everything out to give you the most realistic white flower experience in perfume. it has a sunscreen vibe but it's still very luxurious and classy. it also reminds me alot of soleil blanc by tom ford but a much more refined version. this is a perfect summer floral scent!

tonileefiore

WoW...what a huge disappointment. I like and love several Frederic Malle fragrances and have owned several full bottle EdPs. I sampled Carnal Flower with great anticipation and much to my dismay, this perfume is a HELL NO!

I'm not sure if it's me, my chemistry, my nose, or my preferences. IMO, Carnal Flower is headache inducing, soapy tuberose with whatever else is thrown in. I applied a rather generous sample several times because I felt I was missing something by not loving this fragrance. But try as I might, I get nothing more than nauseatingly cloying, thick, soapy tuberose.

Perhaps in 30 minutes or so, something thinner attempts to break through the cloak of white floral but my oh my. Unfortunately, nothing can break through whatever it is I'm inhaling.

I'm not sure who could wear this and not feel self-conscious.

Sadly, this is a strong pass and money wasted on a very expensive sample.

Xela_529

This is such a relaxing & timeless masterpiece. A tuberose lover's dream. It’s vacation but without that synthetic sunscreen property. I find that the melon note really rounds it out and makes it unique in comparison to its similar “vacation” counterparts. Seriously a 10/10.

PeterD83

On first application, I absolutely hate the opening, smells too green and citrusy on my skin, nothing flowery about it.

It does get better as it calms down a bit, becomes pleasant after an hour or so but this Carnal Flower takes way too long to bloom. I don't enjoy it on my skin but it smells fresh and clean if that's your vibe.

Most people had a neutral to positive reaction to it. One of my colleagues rated it 5 out of 10, telling me that it reminds her of a Spanish baby Cologne (Nenuco). I never tried that so I can't comment on how realistic the comparison is but I most certainly not want to remind anyone of a baby cologne so it's a no from me.

6/10 relatively pleasant and clean scent but too green for my liking. I will not purchase a full bottle for me or even as a present.

krischo

Disclaimer: I gave this the paper test, so this may wear differently on skin, but this is my review:

imo this definitely leans more on the masculine side of unisex, so if you're looking for a feminine white floral / tuberose I wouldn't suggest this. Carnal Flower is a very realistic floral scent, you get everything a flower can offer - from the green notes of the stem and leaves (which you also get from the eucalyptus note), to the dew on the petals. All this to say it did give off a quite fresh and very vegetal feel. I did not get the coconut creaminess some of the other reviewers below mentioned (again, maybe wearing this on the skin would allow some of the coconut to peak through).

Not my style, and it wasn't what I expected. I would suggest trying it out in store rather than blind buying!

wowoweee

this creamy, coconutty, slightly sunscreeny, tuberose forward concoction is very fresh. the gorgeous, high quality, realistic white florals smell much better than any of the similar le labos. Carnal flower is unisex but maybe leans a little feminine and is great for spring and summer.

my only issue is that the opening is overwhelmingly green. it’s as if the perfume hasn’t yet bloomed. but once it does it’s beautiful. big love

Tshahb

I find Frédéric Malle perfumes (and in particular those by Ropion) can undo my prejudices towards certain notes.

This beauty totally flipped my opinion of tuberose, which I normally find very troublesome, bubble-gummy, cloying and OTT. I also normally hate coconut in perfume, but this has shown me that if the quality is high enough, and the blending expert enough, I'm in! The coconut kulfi dry down is almost as good as the superstar opening.

I was in the bakery this morning, and a bunch of people started saying "oh my god someone smells amazing", and I was half mortified, half thrilled when they locked it down to yours truly. Thanks Frédéric Malle!

It's wonderful, another masterpiece from Dominique Ropion.

[2016 batch]

alpa

good job estee lauder. you are master of watering perfumes BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO

lmnsvgz

This has a very sharp opening - a bit masculine, slightly dated. Then the eucalyptus comes up and adds an ounce of freshness. It feels unusual. The tuberose comes out in the drydown - I don't smell the coconut, but I guess it adds to the creamyness.
Overall the scent feels dark and a bit green. This is a green tuberose - it is not a sweet one. It smells exquisite, but it is not something you fall in love with immediately. Definitely not for everyone - even if you love tuberose.

marissaoke

So glad I gave this one another try! I scrubbed it off the first time because it smelled just like a green bell pepper to me, but later on I noticed a beautiful soft jasmine smell and realized this was what I had worn last. I tried it again today, and didn’t panic during the very green vegetal phase (first 5 mins) and as it settled down the gorgeous creaminess came out and I finally got it! This is the brilliance of the scent, bringing out the green earth and mineral aspects of the plant rather than focusing on a sweet chewy aspect as so many do. I hadn’t realized it was a tuberose scent, and wouldn’t have tried it if I knew, since the ones I’ve tried (Flowerhead and Jaipur Chant) are just too much. But I do love jasmine in all iterations, and that is the main effect on me. I have been wearing Jasmin Kusamoto a lot lately, and this is a much more nuanced and complex version of that, to my nose. And it lasts so much longer! I love it!

Heavenly Heather

Intoxicatingly beautiful fragrance that leaves behind an unforgettable scent trail. Gorgeous tuberose along with other floral notes combined with eucalyptus and coconut. So smooth and exotic, for some reason it reminds me of lush flowers in a rainforest. This is so well blended and it will garner many compliments.

Shawn330

Beautiful floral tuberose scent masterfully blended lots of thought went behind every note. Every note compliments the tuberose which is the main star of this beauty. I love tuberose, and if you want a slightly darker take on this less fresh try Royal crowns tenebra both have high quality tuberose at their core

heasson

A hauntingly beautiful fragrance on the dry down, but only I can smell this perfume. Surprisingly tame aura

Sweet florals. Intoxicated masterpiece!

I truly love it but I’m selling it for now. It’s more suitable for older woman than for young like I am. I’ll buy it later. I understand this scent but I’m not feeling that vibe for now. Very expensive smell.

First few minutes it’s bitter. But then it’s so sweet and not clogging. Worth the money.
Try everything on your skin for a few times before buying.

Day/evening. Unisex (more feminine dominant in my opinion).

Commenting so that I can say, for what it's worth, that I have a bottle from 2011, with 1/4 left, pre-Lauder acquisition, and I just repurchased a new one. Comparing both of them side by side, I don't notice anything different between them except of course with the new bottle the topnotes are a tad fresher. Other than that, it's the same scent.

Ilikewhatilike

Reminds me of the smell of a thai beach resort. Holidays in a bottle. Very bold.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

Wow! What a unique and gorgeous perfume, unlike anything I've ever smelt before. Carnal Flower opens with a very green eucalyptus note and with a hint of the melon, but I'm not really smelling any bergamot here. I then get the slight banana pepperiness of the ylang-ylang, with a hint of indolic jasmine and then of course, the star of the show, the tuberose itself. Lastly, I can smell a big wallop of coconut and a hint of musk that gives it that slightly suncreeny smell, but a real high-end suncreeny smell.

As others have said below, it is a hyper-realistic tuberose scent that really emphasizes all of the different notes and facets of the tuberose flower. It smells very dirty and raw, like human flesh, a hint of sweat and dirty and raw sex. I imagine being made love to after soaking in a bath of coconut milk and fresh tuberose petals and tuberose petals that are starting to wilt.

The sillage is very strong (don't spray more than 2 sprays or you'll have a headache like I did) and this perfume lasts about 12 hours on my skin, so there's no need to reapply during the day. I'm glad that Frédéric Malle reformulated it, because it was much too green and mentholated before like Serge Lutens' Tubéreuse Criminelle, but now those beautiful white floral notes shine through more. It's still slightly mentholated and minty at the top, but in a good way!

I'd say this perfume leans more feminine, but that a bold man with confidence could wear it too, so it's definitely still unisex. It's a masterpiece of perfumery, for sure... every tuberose lover needs this classic and yet unusual beauty in their collection now!

jbsherry

This is hands down one of the most potent and high quality white floral fragrance I’ve put my nose on.

This is tuberose at its most lush and inviting. The coconut evokes the warmth of the tropics. I do get indole from the jasmine, but it’s not overwhelming to me. This is still a sexy fragrance, but it doesn’t rely on heavy musks/gourmand notes to achieve this. Imo this a more mature scent and not for the faint of heart. I could see this wearing best in warm seasons/climates.

This is opulence, class, and femininity in a bottle. A masterpiece that I hope to add to my collection in the future.

ingrid.superstar

Unpopular opinion: the name of this excellent fragrance is more suggestive of carnality than the juice in the bottle. This is an almost scientifically realistic floral fragrance. Ask a bee. But I guess context is everything. If you wear this to make love because someone called it carnal, it will start to smell like sex.

But I had to laugh when I was excitedly showing this to my Filipino relatives at Christmas and to them it smelled like going to mass with their queenly grandmother and smelling the “sampaguita” (aka jasmin sambac) flowers on the way. (Jasmin sambac is the national flower of the Philippines, by the way, and it symbolizes purity, fidelity, and hope.)

Lykopa

I have never had someone try and sell a perfume to me so hard before. The sales associate acted like this was the elixir of life and magically changed scents every 10 minutes. It’s a green tuberose bomb right off the bat, with a slight coconut sweetness. There is something in there that reminds me of “stinky pollen” and carrot. Maybe it doesn’t mesh with my skin chemistry. The stank of it goes away after a bit, but it still remains a completely enveloping tuberose, sure to turn the heads of anyone in your wake.

Eduuram

Why keep talking about reformulations? Not only for this one, but for every single one. Lets talk about the perfume the way it is today, not about how it was someday.

smellslovely

Beautiful…. Smells exactly like Molinard Tubereuse Vertigineuse, which is a fraction of the cost

SoftWisdom

Very beautiful but not strong enough for my tastes, probably a reformulation. I love the minty waxy smell of a full bloom here, but there are much more powerful tuberose scents that I'd rather own. This is great if you're looking for a subtle, elegant, white floral.

jassca99

Smells like a stronger Le Labo Lys 41 but a little less vanilla in the opening. The tuberose is present indeed and carnal as the name suggests. More carnal in the opening similar to TF Tubereuse Nue maybe because of the smaller concentration of vanilla to mask it. The vanilla is still there and strengthens with duration of wear to match Le Labo’s. Regardless, they all have that complimentary sweet coconut kind of vanilla and would shine in warm weather. In cold, the tuberose’s polarizing qualities may be amplified specifically for FM Carnal Flower. I see the comparison to latex, and that’s sort of what raw tuberose smells like. You get that strongly in TF’s take too instead of the milder bubble-gum take of the flower. The performance in this as stated earlier is strong. Long-lasting for 7+ hours not counting clothes and very projecting.

LizMango

Opens bright with sticky white tuberose and fresh cut green stems, then goes sexy tropical. Carnal Flower is overwhelming in hot, humid weather. Don't overspray!

ingrid.superstar

A time-lapse, super close-up, nature documentary of tuberoses blooming and rotting over and over, hyper-speed against a pitch-black background. Bees come and go. The bees die. Zoom out and you realize this is actually a Dutch masters painting: flowers, fruit, metal bowls and vases. Someone brought a coconut from the East Indies! The fruit dies. We all die. But it’s beautiful.

That’s what wearing Carnal Flower is like.

sepehrskater

to me it smells like carrot

Fanny Chloé

Amazing!!!!!
I love this fragrance so much, it IS so addictive. Although tuberose and jasmine tend to give me headaches, it gets toned down but the coconut and orange blossom which gives it a sweet and clean Vibe.
At first it develops very greenish but gets more femimine on the dry down. Whenever I Wear it I get addicted to the scent and I want to smell it allday long.

darkflaneuse

Where is the carnality? It starts (as everyone says) with a green stemmy note. But it never blooms into the lush, shimmering bouquet that it claims to be. It’s a perfectly pleasant greenish floral with moderate sillage and decent longevity but that’s it. For $$$$$. Perhaps they watered it down when reformulating?

Andyjones

This is quite simply the most glorious floral perfume I have ever witnessed. It is totally stunning In it’s realism of Tuberose ❤️ Bette Davis would have adored it.

blkleather_redlace

Disappointed! This has to have been reformulated by misers, right? I've waited years to sample. Its tuberose, but it's also too green and too rubbery and too...weak! It just smells like sniffing a vase of cut flowers. It must have been stronger, richer before now. It does not remind one of Ysatis or Byzance like LT says. Either one would blow this out of the room. Even current Ysatis is 5x stronger. It has some longevity, but no strength. Jesus, the regulations and corporate greed know no shame.

heavyindustry

Soliflores are too often judged on their likeness to the real thing, how photorealistic they appear. What happens when the scent not only captures the essence but also surpasses its source of inspiration? It becomes hyperreal, a seamless blend of real and imagined that exceeds impressionism. Carnal Flower represents the grandest flower of the night, the Tuberose of tuberoses. Facets of the natural flower are enhanced, yet balanced to create a new breed of flower. Methyl salicylates in tuberose are spiked with added camphor (similar to Tubereuse Criminelle), the sap of its green stem is highlighted through eucalyptus, its waxy petals augmented with coconut and intoxicating sweetness amplified with ylang ylang and melon. We don't have to imagine what a hyper-tuberose smells like because Ropion has already engineered and delivered the flower into the world.

Carnal Flower wears really well, opening with slightly green eucalyptus with a slight camphorous edge. Tuberose, alongside jasmine, blooms quickly from the start and slowly crescendos towards the heart. There's a soft sweetness that suggests a light touch of vanilla, alongside the ylang-ylang. Coconut supports the scent and fills out the texture of the flower, but does not turn it lactonic or creamy as in Soleil Blanc. Tuberose projects well for 6 hours before receding towards its base where it is supported by white musks. There it persists on skin for a few more hours, so I've never found performance an issue.

Carnal Flower is made to be deliberately wearable. Dirtier, indolic facets of the flower have been deliberately neutered and only appear very late into the drydown. I consider Carnal Flower the best, most alluring and intoxicating tuberose. Not only is this my favourite white floral, but it is the scent that sparked my love and continued exploration of florals. Even if you are on the fence about tuberose, CF is a perfume worth sampling.

netosan

First time I smell a Malle perfume. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was gonna be a flower bomb. It is just beautiful 🤩 Tubereuse done the right way. After this I smelled Musc Ravageur and I bought the latter one. Wonderful line of perfumes !

SuzanneS

2021 sample review
Its been reformulated. Its flatter, thinner than the past. To some, it will be more wearable if you previously found it too much, but at the same time..your still paying premium price..

Those that loved the first formula, or even the second reform.. save your pennies. This 3rd gen doent have the oomph.

Vegas Pauli

I loved this when it came out, such a lush, supple buttery white floral beauty. I had a decant and used it sparingly for years. I finally splurged on a full bottle and was dismayed it has recently been reformulated (2021). It's now very sharp and very green. It is still a beautiful fragrance, but not as it once was. I returned it, there are better white florals out there now...

Kcbear28

I had loved and repurchased this beauty for years. My last bottle ran out last year and I just couldn't bring myself to get another one. Personally, I think its certainly been reformulated cause the performance (from my last bottle and the sample I acquired afterwards) was not as stellar. Don't get me wrong, it is still beautifully potent and a beast mode fragrance but it lacks that little umph it used to have.

I feel it has to be an absolute and total love for me to justify the price tag. Very hard to do so when there are a few more reasonably priced fragrances of the same genre out there. And so we parted sadly.

Air of Grace

On my search for my favourite white florals, I had to try this much talked about perfume .

I realised I’m not into any perfumes that are amber in colour which to me , personifies a heavy formulation just like vintage juices .

As much as I appreciated this fragrance , eucalyptus ( especially living in Australia . Fodder for the Koalas )is just i too mentholated for my tastes in a perfume .

This one just like Fracas , is way too powerful ! Performance overload which inhibits my appreciation of the individual notes .

I do get it’s beauty but I would never reach for it to wear .

Vannamae__

Was this reformulated? If so, when? I was under the impression this scent had some power behind it and when I sampled from my official decant, it was strong but only for the first 30 mins and by an hour and a half it was completely gone! Shame. Maybe I’ll have to hunt down an older bottle because at it’s current formulation it’s not worth the price for such pitiful performance.

Compositeur

Anyone who has smelled jasmine sambac at night, this is exactly the opening. Hence how indolic it gets. Jasmine, jasmine sambac, tuberose, magnolia, they are all related not just as genus but olfactory-wise too. The tuberose becomes more prominent in the heart onwards. I was so impressed when I first bought this so many years ago, but I find my interest in this house becoming less and less, even prior to Malle selling out. I have no doubt that the quality of ingredients is there, but the aesthetic is, more often than not, a bit too cold for my liking.
Also, a reviewer below mentioned this too, their packaging leaves a lot to be desired, especially this issue with boxes not being sealed. I complained about this directly to them, but got some generic nonsense reply. As if a simple safety sticker would be too much for them to contemplate. And the marketing behind each perfume sometimes borders on the fanciful. Things like these, one might think they are small, but somehow say a lot about a brand.

arizonaruby

Beautiful jasmine and tuberose scent. Starts off quite green, like flower stems and leaves, and then gradually develops to a creamy (tiny bit coconutty) white floral. Longevity is excellent; sillage is good without being too in your face.

hola gigi

Musky masculine leaning tuberose bomb. Yes the eucalyptus is present. Yes the jasmine is present... but I don't smell any of the sweet accords. If you're a white floral lover (which I admittedly am not) try it out.

Mervozz

Looking at the notes, I thought I would fall in love with this but I am disappointed. The initial sprey reminds me of Gucci Bloom (which I love) but then I am suddenly overcome by a cigarette (ash?) smell. Later on it is nice enough florals but not love.

PerfumePixie87

I was blind gifted a 50ml bottle of Carnal Flower for my 30th birthday (2017). I shamelessly adore heady white florals so based on the notes and the reviews I had read I thought I would love this. I was not prepared for the bitter, green opening and was thoroughly disappointed. I revisited it on occasion and somehow managed to get through the 50ml over the course of 5 years. 35 now and my olfactive palate has become more nuanced and it grew on me with time. CF resonates with me now so when I found it at a discounted price I replaced it immediately as I could not be without it in my collection.

The dry down is a beautiful sophisticated soapy tuberose musk with a hint of comforting coconut. It is such a true yet unique tuberose without any of the bubblegum sweetness you get with more mass appealing scents. It's sharp opening is not for the faint hearted, young or uninitiated in the world of fragrance. It is classy and together and makes me feel like I mean business when I wear it like I should be hailing a black taxi wearing a slick tailored trouser suit, heels and cat-eye sunglasses, maybe even a red lip. I believe we all need a perfume in our arsenal that makes us feel that way, and although I don't live that sort of lifestyle I'm glad Carnal Flower has charted my growth and development into the sort of woman who can on occasion pull for this kind of fragrance.

evandrr

My tastes probably just aren’t very refined. And, you know what, maybe the formulation of the discovery set is different enough to change things. But to me, this is aerosol sunscreen that dries down to white floral. The dry down is very nice, but after not even 10 minutes, pretty much undetectable unless my nose is within an inch of my arm.
I can see this as a classy office scent; chances are if you’re spending Frederic Malle money you don’t have memories of Equate sunscreen to colour your perception of it, right?

callsomeoneyoulove

I like it has that greenish base. Instead of a perfume you get an experience of being surrounded by flowers. Wonderful.

Jonathanelsher3

A beautiful, rich, and direct tuberose and flower composition. Solid and lovely. Aromatic scent. It's not harsh or manufactured in any way. Carnal Flower smells like creamy tuberose, a true and magnificent flower, but with a wildness about it. The richness is balanced by the freshness of eucalyptus and this green, ozonic quality that seems like paradise, an innocent desire, and a well-rounded finish. This gives off seductive, earthy, fresh, creamy, gentle but strong vibes. It's simply wonderful!

mangooo

Wow this is beautiful! The opening beautiful - It's a green tuberose with a creamy base. The creaminess really balances out the greeness from the tuberose. On dry down the florals amp up a bit more, think blossoming flowers. The greenness tones down and the fresh floral notes take over. At this point I was a bit worried it might start to trigger a headache but is soon complemented by the slight sweetness from the melon note which comes through in the dry down. It's sophisticated and elegant and hits all the right notes from me. A lot of florals tend to lean "air freshener" to me but this is one I can see myself wearing. Definitely my favorite from the house so far and one of my favorite floral fragrances ever.

AdalynEverly

OOOOO This tuberose is very interesting. Picture a successful woman in 40's, or like an older successful woman in general. Another example is imagine a successful older woman who is a reporter for the news. The tuberose and eucalyptus are the main ones on the stage. I also like that the tuberose is not sharp because the eucalyptus, and the coconut make it more creamy and sophisticated. This perfume really does give me rich auntie vibes, and I really like it for that. The only con I have for this perfume is that I don't think it's appropriate for my age being in my twenties.

KarinaSo

Opening is very green, and it goes away depending on weather and conditions sometimes in 1 hour sometimes in minutes revealing coconut, melon and jasmine which later transforms into beautiful tuberose softened by previous notes :) gorgeous scent, lasts for ~5hours on my skin.

Guess what!! I met someone! Yes. Really!! And guess what else...I met him in Paris!!! I went there on vacation last month and girl, I have to say it was amazing and kind of crowded and a little weird and cramped but still--AMAZING. Worth every penny. How did we meet? It's a whole ass story. Let's see....

I think I'd been there about 3 days when I decided to go to the Louvre. I was going to take it nice and slow over the next three or four days and just soak it all in. I had a membership card so I was ready. to. go. I get to the Pyramid and I am loving the crowd and literally just gaga over everything when I literally bumped into the single most gorgeous hunk of a man. Like literally bumped. I dropped my bag lol. He picked it up and looked into my eyes and I felt like I'd been transported to the moon and back in four seconds. I was frozen. He said in the sexiest, most amazing French accent EVER "Hello. My name is Carnal Flower. And you are...?" I don't even remember saying anything but apparently I did. I just--ahhhh! I was honestly instantly swept off my feet!! He felt exactly the same too!! We stared into one another's eyes and honestly spent the next four hours just completely gobsmacked by the chances that we would meet. Soulmates!

He was just honestly incredible. He knew all the amazing places to go, the best works to see, the best cafes to visit. He told me constantly that he couldn't believe he had met the most beautiful woman on earth by chance! Incredible! He was so gorgeous with beautiful brown eyes and salt and pepper hair and that accent! It was magical. Genuinely magical. After four hours in The Louvre he wants to take me to the Eiffel Tower and even though I wasn't super into the effort get there I said, sure okay. When we get there there's a line and so many people and I start to feel really iffy and that's when I start to see the cracks start to form. He seems offended that I'm reluctant and tired. He smokes cigarette after cigarette without even looking at me until I say "Okay I'll go". He starts talking about where we will live and my brain starts to put on the brakes. He's already talking marriage? When I express reluctance he sulks. When we are sitting in a cafe and the waitress takes our order he barks something rude sounding at her in French which is weird. It makes me feel a little uncomfortable but I'm still game. He's so attractive and French and this is Paris and he wants to marry me (apparently?) so okay. I go back to the hotel with him. He complains about the dirty hallway on the way to the room but my "I'm getting laid" blinders are on, girl. Mmhmm.

So we start getting busy and everything is incredible. SO much chemistry and attraction! So much foreplay! His body is perfection. He is amazing in bed, the first time, from the start. My body is in heaven and so is his. It's bliss. have so many orgasms I can't count! And he just keeps going! And going. And...........going. And it's starting to hurt. Two hours? Three? My vajayjay is starting to call Houston because she thinks there's a problem. Things are getting dry and sore and unpleasant. I tell Carnal Flower we need a break and he says fine but he is clearly unhappy. He smokes in my room (even though I told him not to!) and stares out the window. He complains about this ex wife and how crazy she is. He says she hit him but he was the one the police arrested when the neighbors call them. Yes, she had a cut on her cheekbone and a big bruise but he says she hit herself. She was crazy, after all. She was trying to set him up. He says the system is rigged against him and men like him and that the world hates dominant, masculine men. He sucks on another cigarette and says it's all her fault he is having to work a job below his station just to be able to pay his mother to cover the utilities.

Lying in bed listening to him I feel as though I'm lying on an ice floe in a lake of reality. The strange cold fish swimming there tell me the truth: love bombing and being an a*shole are not exclusive to English speakers, dear.

I sigh sadly and tell him to get out. He frowns, lights a cigarette, puts on his clothes and leaves without a word trailing a sadly plasticky sillage.

the best floral

johanna.lindholm

I tried this on ONCE and I had to scrub it off after only a couple of minutes. To me it smells like an ashtray in a mold infested house. Not very nice at all. Maybe I'll give it another go and really try it out for real, but the first impression of this is super bad. I expected a bubble gum tuberose, not whatever this is.

Edit: Now I've tried this once more without scrubbing it off. This is such a hard fragrance for me to like. The tuberose is something else, never smelled as green as this is before, then there is some realistic coconut, a bit of ylang ylang. It's not sweet to me, it feels savory. But then there is something that just smells.... off. This is not a sexy perfume to me, it's complex, but too difficult. It's not that enjoyable to me, but I keep sniffing it anyways, I don't know why. I just think it's such a weird perfume. Not sure if I'll ever understand it properly, probably wont buy a bottle of it either. I just don't understand how this is someones "special scent", I don't.

likesleet

I agree. It's a very dirty green: in your face with jasmine.

fwuity

secret! >:0 (i'm writing this as my bf tries to peek at my laptop screen)

sharp green leaves right off. cutting flower stems in the kitchen sink. It smells like spray-on sunscreen? But ... when I went to bed and buried my face in the shirt I'd been wearing all day ... it was softer, sweeter, like a flowery embrace.

Charlotte_Grace_29

Reading these polarized reviews makes me so intrigued at how fragrances develop and present differently on different skin. Some reviewers say it smells like camphor, some say that it reeks of indoles, some rave about the eucalyptus. On me, this is a stunner for sure. Full bottle worthy.

It is summer in southern California as I write this, and the heat makes this fragrance nearly too sultry and heady to bear. This scent is S-E-X-Y. It smells like luscious lips, riding crops, and nighttime indiscretions. This is a full and commanding tuberose, a white floral that envelopes the wearer (me) in waxy, buttery, voluptuous shrouds of floral decadence. The coconut is very prominent on me, and gives a nutty, nearly gourmand edge to the tuberose. This is not a sweet, syrupy, or bubblegum tuberose like L'Interdit Rouge. This is all creamy white florals and the call of the night. I do not detect any bergamot or eucalyptus whatsoever, but the melon note does slide out eventually once warmed on the skin.

Longevity is tremendous, one or two squirts will last you all day. I feel like the sillage is moderate, but it stays very close to the skin and envelopes the wearer. This fragrance is so sultry that I would probably find it inappropriate for the office or even a casual lunch. It belongs in the same category as Oud Satin Mood and vintage Shalimar. Love love love.

Cynthia30

Straight up moth balls/napthalene, smells like my Aunty's old sari closets. Mixed with poo like indoles. The coconut is old and rancid, like dated products on the shelf of an Indian grocer.
The magnolia is white and sweet. It's very photorealistic, big white flowers on a Jurassic tree of beautiful branches, weird pods and no leaves. The ylang reminds me more of frangipani. The yellow+poo notes remind me more of champaca. The milky green reminds me of Jo Malone Wild Bluebell.
I love all of it!!

The eucalyptus/Vicks notes are middle notes and can be smelt close to the skin.

Ok hear me out... it's an Indian shop selling sarees with moth balls, along with snacks fried in coconut oil. They are also selling amruthanjan ( not Vicks) they have garlands of fresh jasmine.

On me, it's not soapy at all. (Unlike
FM eau de magnolia) It's creamy. Like brylcreem. Waxy drydown, becomes more animalic

Catmo

This is definitely tuberose but a green tuberose- not sweet and not bubblegummy. Really really strong- just one spray and my eyes are beginning to water. Nothing even remotely similar to other tuberose fragrances that I know and love.
I did see some people compare this to My Way and it's not even CLOSE. Big no on that. Armani My Way is sweet and little bubblegummy and universally pleasing. This is none of those things.

masonmarie

New fans of Carnal Flower! Don't be discouraged by comments of reformulation. Before reading anything I felt like this performed pretty strongly and lasted awhile (until the next day in my hair). Reading the below, I was first surprised and then existentially distraught that I would never know what the Original Beast Mode Carnal Flower Experience was like. Then, I got over it because the current version is still wonderful, and we can't dwell on the past can we?

Tuberose, if ya nasty. It's literally the title.

Sully92

This is an absolute masterpiece and a must try for tuberose lovers imo. She's a little green from the eucalyptus but still has that sweetness from the melon and the ylang to balance it out. A little tropical and a bit old school if you are used to the uber sweet bubblegummy tuberose that is popular today (no hate towards those frags, I love them too). Not for the faint of heart, she's a powerhouse! I adore her 💕

Kylix

Sorry, but I feel the melon in it a little fishy. Not a fan.

parfum_euphoria

a fantastic concoction with tuberose and jasmine start, succeeded by noble eucalyptus, the coconut and ylang ylang smell so exquisite here, the luscious melon and bergamot are used in a very individual and refreshing concept through the core shades of the perfume, it joins up so substantially with orange blossom and musk in the fundamental notes that I just cannot help moving my head back or forth or tilt it, since each time I move it I get another whiff of this beautiful perfume even hours after I sprayed it As a tropical and fruity scent, Malle Carnal Flower is a perfect fit for daytime wear. With an echo of coconut and bergamot, this fragrance is beautifully blended with the richness of ylang-ylang, jasmine and tuberose. Wear it as you go about your day to give any space a sense of lushness and serenity.
Malle Carnal Flower has a potent, heady scent that is perfect for those who love their fragrances sensual and intense.

PeachPerfume

Tuberose bomb. Wonderful sillage that radiates elegant. My daughter called it #old lady (ouch), but I really don't agree. It's true that I can't see a pre-teen wearing this, and there is a heaviness and depth that would not make it my favorite for the office. But this screams chic Parisian lady, or powersuit CEO-boss in a way that defies age.

likesleet

sweaty bergamot. which i guess is what the name promises?

buonobi

I always say to myself that I don't wanna smell like a flower.
But this fragrance is sooo intoxicating & fresh.
Yes, it's mainly tuberose, but in a little greeny, bright & brilliant way.
The melon, eucalyptus make it more fresh, coconut makes it more creamy, so not just photo-realistic .
For the longevity, it is very long lasting, 12+. Lasted all DAY! Very impressive.
And for those said it's skin scent, maybe u got noseblind, try few more times!

I would suggest spray and try it on your own skin, don't spray on clothes, just let the body heat develop with the scent.

Dcarlo

Carnal? No not at all but this is a beautifully worked tuberose to make the flower show it’s most bright side.
Carnal Flower opens with eucalyptus and a straight on your face tuberose, then the notes are softened when the jasmine (not indolic by the way) joins the scene along with the ylang. A very appealing but discrete tropical breeze with some melon and coconut makes this a delightful summertime perfume if properly applied.
It has some resemblance to Tuberose by Daniel Jossier but Carnal Flower has a wonderful and soft musky that set it apart from the Spanish perfume.
I feel the formula has been somehow changed because I don’t feel those suffocating or indolic notes other are talking about and as I said I don’t feel it carnal but gorgeously floral and sunny. And now that I’m wearing it there’s a very noticeable gardenia that remains in my skin from the heart to the base notes all day long.
No doubt about it Carnal Flower is one of the best tuberose based fragrances that reveals a more approachable side of this fascinating flower that never stops revealing new facets of seduction.

Linlin

I like this perfume, but I wouldn’t buy a bottle. It is just too much, overwhelming, a green beast. I think I would love standing in an elevator with a person wearing this, but smelling it all day? The longevity is impressive so I actually do smell it all day. After a couple of hours I’m done. For weeks, even months. But after a while I want to grab it again. So the miniature bottle I have is fine for me.

Mouse011

After long time, today im wearing Carnal Flower again.
Back in 2020 i was covid + and my olfactory sense for Carnal F. Has been deeply changed, i mean it was unwearable for me for a long time now.
Todays is much better and i can enjoy it again, it's almost like before.

Ok, every "new" tuberose based fragrance has been inspired by Fracas, that is no secret but Carnal F. Is a much different.
The main difference between them is in tuberose, Fracas smells sweet and bubblegumy while Carnal F. Is a green, dry and not sweet at all.
Ropion and F Malle have been worked on a Carnal F. for a long time, and after a many falitures this baby was born in 2005.

2 in 1 scent, Sexy and refreshing.
When i smell it i can see a long white desert beaches.
It's an real oriental gem.
Fresh and sour top notes fade quick into seductive cocconuty white flowers heart.
Dry, green and creamy (not sweet)
Carnal Flower is special due to masterfuly tuberose which is hiden behind a big dose of jasmin absolute.

I suggest a couple of testing before you decide to buy a bottle!

strangelight

Agree with the people saying this is not "carnal" in the least, I'm not getting the indoles at all.
However, this (along with Moon Bloom) is a great tuberose for people (like me) scared of tuberose. I say that as someone that even found Do Son a cloying tuberose - CF and MB are very green, natural tuberoses that have a different vibe in my eyes to say more perfume-y "diva" tuberoses.
Worth the hype.

I agree with @irlfireprincess here. There is nothing carnal about this scent. It's all about clean and soap. The first minute it displays the same green tuberose typical of Tubereuse absolue and, to an extreme, Tubereuse criminelle, with the camphor and eucalyptus notes pushing forward, but that's a feeing impression. It quickly turns soapy, and less fresh, similar to clean laundry. When the ylang-ylang and coconut show up, it gets a tropical vibe, but still on the soapy/waxy side. While TC and TA remain spicy/floral/sharp for a very long time, this evolves into a sweeter, tamer scent very fast and within a couple of hours it becomes an innocent soft clean skin scent. It's a very good scent, but I find that TA and TC are both superior in terms of originality and longevity. The fragrance that comes closer to this is Moon Bloom, which is similar in the "beachy fresh" interpretation of the tuberose and in longevity, but Moon Bloom adds some interest with the spices of the base notes, making it less soapy.

bunnymusk

The lifecycle of tuberose in scent form. Opens on the green side, blossoms just peeking from the bud. Dewy and pungent. Throughout the drydown the tuberose sweetness continues to thicken, becoming densely indolic and syrupy around hour two. This stage is somewhat balanced by a heavy dose of powdery musk, though I will admit to always getting overwhelmed at this point. It’s like you’ve filled your house with vases of freshly cut tuberose and five days later the petals are browned and the stems have gone to rot and you need to open the windows and air the place out.

Just when you think you might need to scrub the scent, boom, it all but disappears. Aged flowers gone, tossed in the bin, and a faint sweetness lingers in their place - a comforting reminder, encouraging you back into the garden to cut more tuberose. In the end, an intense, short-lived white flower masterpiece.

irlfireprincess

At least to my nose, this doesn't smell "carnal" at all. I get absolutely 0% sexy, dirty, naughty, indolic at all from this. In fact, to me, it's squeaky clean. The opening smelled very green and sharp, almost fresh spicy, and then as the fragrance is progressing, I'm getting soapy florals, like high-quality 5-star-hotel hand soap or laundry detergent. It's kind of nice, it's just not at all what I was expecting.

Child Chemist

At first, I could only tell Carnal Flower apart from my other tuberose fragrance, Fleurs d'Oranger by Serge Lutens, because of the musk and green touches in the opening. As I wore them both, Carnal Flower became my favorite. Unlike the Serge Lutens, Carnal Flower does not aim at being "photorealistic". Tuberose is without a doubt the star of this fragrance, but the other notes elevate it into a beautiful composition rather than a soliflore.

Carnal Flower is bold, it's professional, it's modern, and even cold. But these qualities are what will charm you. Carnal Flower makes you stand back and admire it. Smooth. Confidence.

okamikiera

This is gorgeous and springy in a way that reminds me of honeysuckle. It’s not as overwhelming or green as a lot of tuberose-dominant scents, but also not super characteristically “tuberose” (though I have never smelled the real flower, just various perfume versions of it). Overall leans more old-school aromatic botanical green to me, but also very much in the goldilocks zone of perfect white florals. The fruity elements are pleasant, but not candied as in most designer scents.

Thin and high-pitched, this is a perfect one for spring and summer. Some might find it boring and conventional, but I find it just right and very wearable. Still not sure that justifies the niche price point though--this is more for someone who wants to upgrade from designer fruity florals without going into the challenging bubblegum-vinyl realm of Tubéreuse Nue, Flos Mortis, Fracas, and other heavy tuberose scents.

IamdrinkingBeer

Very nice white floral that has some (green-ish) coconut and some milky and green aspects, but i have to say, this is extremely weak on me! it lasted half an hour maybe, 2 hours max as a skin scent, wtf? really disappointed in the performance, this is shameful. Maybe before this was a beast. I think i will just stick with Tubereuse Criminelle. But still, if this lasted longer on me, it would be bottle worthy, cause it is an outstanding high quality scent

Etheras

Jasmine and Tuberose excellence with a sense of glamour and sophistication. High quality, this is how Class can be described, i dont think is something extraordinary we have smelled the same think many times but here is with quality and class.

This is my favourite Malle from the sample set. I am generally fond of tuberose and white flowers and had a high expectation for this one. When I first sprayed it to my surprise I could barely smell it. Not sure if I am having some kind of a spring time pre allergy anosmic moment but I kept spraying & letting dry until finally something stayed. Maybe its my body chemistry which has a tendency to eat up fragrance. What stays is interesting, its wet, its a strange tuberose with white flowers, not so much coconut per se but some not gourmandy but floral sweetness. I don’t get melon (I’d like to) instead an interesting plasticky scent, could be the camphor/eucalyptus in this composition which really works as a contrasting structure for the fleshness of the tuberose. I like it. This is one I would possibly, possibly purchase of this overpriced range. Turns sweeter and thicker on long dry down.

Ksj_

This is a beautiful tuberose fragrance. But I think Cocaine by Boclet is superior.

Aprettygarden2

Can’t get enough.
It’s finally warming up a bit in my neck of the woods and I’m craving carnal flower. It is THE tuberose.
Absolute masterpiece.

TunyaPe

Green and buttery tuberose. This is not sexy, not sunscreen, not summery. Voluptuous and photorealistic (just like Une Rose), yes!

There are both beloved green aromatic eucalyptus and a couple of notes that I dislike, so Carnal Flower still puts me on the fence. I pick up coconut and melon in the middle phase very strongly (perhaps because I cannot stand them), so that almost ruins it for me.

Carnal Flower differs from most other perfumes where 'little goes a long way' should be applied as it is all about mesmerising an art piece. It requires a little bit of body heat to do the magik. Let it sit and bloom on your skin as though flower plants growing from the soil.

I find it best fit for winter and spring as its green floral quality does remind me of Narcissus/Daffodil which is a spring flower. Definitely too suffocating to be worn in summer.

Fragaddict123

Usually with such a magnificent house and a legendary perfumer the chances of messing up is quite low
And this one wasn’t a mistake at all but it’s not a phenomenon as some people tend to describe
My problem with this fragrance is that I smelled it before and what surprised me its not mentioned in the “reminds me of “
It’s so close to YSL’s masterpiece “supreme bouquet”
I know this one is released before SB , but nonetheless l believe SB is the superior scent
There is a certain creaminess in SB that I couldn’t find in this one
I assure you it’s a beautiful fragrance with nuclear performance but I personally wasn’t dazzled by this one

Stampinator

POW! Carnal flower is still the best tuberose fragrance that I have ever smelt. Bright, green and intoxicatingly tuberose flower heavy. I purchased my first bottle in 2007... and I still find it to be the most empowering sexy fragrance I have ever put my nose to. I will never be without this one. I have had loads of compliments from it too. It is very natural and modern smelling. A total modern classic. LOVE.

Update: I picked up a new bottle and find it to be a little bit underwhelming as far as performance goes... I think some reformulation must have happened - doesn't last as long or develop on the skin as it once did. Still a beautiful scent but a bit disappointed at the reformulation.

wondervalley666

Update:
After several attempts at wearing this gorgeous scent, I find the performance to be seriously disappointing. Prior to buying, I heard so many reviewers claim this was an eternal-lasting beast mode scent and how you should be careful wearing this in the heat due to its potency. However, this only lasts about 2 hrs on me, even if I apply 15-20 sprays! It lasts about 3 hrs on clothing, maybe you can faintly sense some tuberose on last nights dirty shirt the next morning, but you really need to search for it. Also, I can't ever seem to pull out any notes aside from the tuberose and eucalyptus. I get no coconut or any of the other notes listed, which is a bummer because I was looking for summer tropical. I get tuberose and green stemmy eucalyptus only. The tuberose barely even shines through, as soon as it develops, it's gone. I'm afraid I must echo the other reviewers who claim they think this has been reformulated. For the price, there is no chance I will be repurchasing with such poor performance. I ended up buying a bottle of Lys 41 by Le Labo, which is also seriously overpriced, but lasts at least 3x as long on my skin and smells of pure sexy expensive fresh tuberose. It's more feminine-leaning, so I'm not sure that would be a suitable alternative for men. I believe the mini spray I sampled of Carnal Flower was an older formulation, and it was great. The newer FB I purchased just doesn't cut it - it's one of the weakest scents I own, I'd say these newer reformulations last about as long/strong as Soleil Blanc, which has been my personal inside joke for awhile as "a great scent that costs half a months rent per ounce and disappears in 15 min, so you're better off just sniffing a scented candle and flushing a few hundred bucks down the toilet."

Original review:
Man this is good. “Expensive sunscreen,” but with very fresh flowers. Upon the opening, I smell the leaves, the stems, the entire bush, freshly pruned. I’m a gardener, so for me this is the smell of life. It’s wonderful. The flowers come alive as my skin warms up, and the greens fade as the florals take over. Always maintains a nice skin/natural scent, never turns synthetic or sour. Smells sexy and seductive, warm like the sun. My spouse doesn’t think of it as sunscreen, he smells flowers and thinks a different pure coconut scent I gave him smelled like sunscreen, so don’t take the sunscreen reference too literally. I ended up caving and bought a full bottle. I just couldn't live without this sharp, crisp, powerful realistic floral in my life. I have a number of great coconut/tuberose/expensive sunscreen scents, but I spent more money than I should on another bottle of a different one, since this just seemed THAT special. I'd compare it to how I spent my entire life smelling "rose" perfumes, and never once went "WOW, THAT'S a REAL rose, the most expensive ever and I want it!" and I never wanted any rose scents... until I smelled PDM Delina, which has the freshest fanciest crispest rose ever, then I couldn't get THAT rose out of my head. For me, this experience with Carnal Flower was like that - I did love tuberose scents, but I immediately recognized a realistic high quality freshness in Carnal Flower that set it apart from the others and hooked me.

If you like tuberose, strong crisp realistic florals, coconut, sunscreen scents, and can afford it, give it a try! Or pick up a sample, even a mini spray on ebay is filled with so much magic it's worth the $10-$15.

Kaylovely

I have a 50ml for sale US. Year old batch before reformulation. So, it will last and project!

tamsinrubra92

Love this perfume, not sure if I love it more on others or myself. Feels like you need to be a well puy together person to pull it off. Smells like you've put tuberose flowers in a pestle and morter crushed them added a cream to it. It's really fresh and delectable. But also has a fresh bite to it as if the tuberose stalk has been added to it too. Beautiful fragrance

DoubleN

got this as a sample. It smells like a real flower, its like you can smell the white floral, the stems and leaves of the flower and for some reason the ground. I don't think I will buy a bottle but I find it extremely interesting. I get what people mean when they say they get grandma vibes. This smells very realistic

Rozalina

The tuberose in Carnal Flower reminds me of the tuberose in Armani’s My Way- fresh and bright, sweet and delicate. Not bubblegummy, sweetened with the loveliest orange blossom, and just a hint indolic. I get headaches from the type of loud tuberose that’s in Fracas and Love Dont Be Shy. Not the case here. I love how the coconut is used to lend some creaminess. Just an overall stunning pure white floral scent.

Authenticchen

One of the best Tuberose in my collection. I recently got into tuberose and can't get enough; this smells like old money, like someone's very rich aunty/uncle, classy lady, suits and tie, someone who has good attention to detail. HE OR SHE only wears fine jewellery (ruby, emerald) Not to say it's old, I'm in my early 30s and absolutely love it. The longevity is superb (this is of course subjective). After a couple of minutes, you do begin to pick up that coconut but the tuberose is present all the way through. I've not tried this in summer time; I'm excited to give it a go.

*loves_shoes*

Smells a little fresh at first, like fresh cut stems. Maybe from the melon note?
And then a whole fresh white flower bouquet.
If realistic white flower bombs are your thing, this is superb.
There’s lots of tuberose but the combination of other notes stop it being too bubblegummy.
I love the addition of coconut, it’s so subtle and yet elevates this beyond just a tuberose jasmine bomb. It’s maybe ever so slightly salty.
A very well done, slightly different take on a white flower fragrance. Not my genre, but I can appreciate this one.

emilyjxne

Creamy, lush, green, white floral (can pick out tuberose and jasmine specifically) & a touch of coconut in the immediate opening. Then slowly gets dirtier, like flowers that have been left too long in the vase & are starting to go bad. I end up with a tuberose, a suntan lotion element but also a kind of moth ball-y type of a smell. Carnal Flower is challenging, interesting and exotic. I don’t dislike it but I don’t love it. I’ve yet to try a Frederic Malle that isn’t too mature for me/my taste (I’m in my early 30’s), equally I’ve never met a Frederic Malle with poor performance.

Mistress Eva

This is my first foray into the world of Frederic Malle. I almost don't know where to start as I've completely fallen under its spell. The inspiration behind Carnal Flower convinced me this would be a good first Malle scent.

This is not your average white floral. While some white florals may be too suffocating, dated, and weigh down the air around the wearer, this one avoids all those pitfalls. Carnal Flower, which contains more tuberose absolu than any other fragrance, is magical. It is wild, pure, heady, alive, and inexplicably seductive and enticing. This isn't grandma's white floral soap. This is, as Dominique Ropion desired, the purest interpretation of the carnal, forbidden flower: tuberose.

Enchanting, emotional, and yearning, Carnal Flower is, to my nose, a f**king work of art. Well done, Mr. Ropion! What a unique gem to add to my collection.

rxmnng

I don’t understand why people say that longevity is weak, it lasts ~12h on my skin and project pretty strong for ~4h, I tested this through a 5ml decant and bought a full 100ml bottle the day after, even though it’s my first tuberose fragrance.

chyan

Tuberose fan here! 🙋🏽♀️ I watched the video Frederick Malle filmed with Dominique Ropion on the inspiration and creation of this fragrance and was an awe at the lengths to which the pair went to create what what was described as the truest expression of tuberose ever made in the history of mankind—in French though so the precise translation was a little hard for me to discern. And it took years. Despite this revelation, I was NOT ready for this scent and was completely blown away when I opened the tiny sample I received. A full bottle was immediately in process. It really is tuberose straight up; it is heady, impossibly sensual, warm, yet cool at the same time. It smells like the epitome of so many different intangibles that it is hard for me to describe and it also takes me back to my childhood for some reason—I imagine there were some tuberose wearers around me back then that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Silage and longevity is not that great after the dry down but to me this as more of a skin scent and it seems right that way. However I have been wearing it to bed, after showering so I have no idea how much other people can smell it. it is very pronounced for the first hour or so band ag about 3 hours I can smell it when I turn my head on my shoulders, etc.but it’s barely discernible. Ironically, while I do wish it lasted longer, I think I would be overwhelmed with more than a couple sprays, even as much as I love tuberose. Tuberose is such a sharp and distinctive scent, kind of like orange blossom, that when it’s in the front seat, it overtakes everything else including the senses. if you’re naked and moisturized all you have to do is walk through a couple spritzes and you’re golden.

I want to rotate this out more often due to the price point on this one but it’s not going to be easy.

Arfume

This is by far the greatest flower fragrance of all time. Mr Ropion never ceases to amaze me. He creates masterpieces. Once you wear this your senses highten. You feel like you belong in the garden of eden. The longevity and sillage is double beast mode. Stays and never gets dirty. Will always be forever my must have scent

francesmendez

the name is perfect.. smells like making love next to an obnoxiously loud-smelling white flower! it caramelizes on my skin after a few afters down to a softer floral.

NakedUnderLeather

A must try for tuberose or strong white floral perfume lovers. I am not one myself, but I appreciate this one. It is a heady, tropical, very realistic tuberose. I wouldn't say it is particularly unique, perhaps because tuberose is so dominant; I was expecting it to be more different as it's so hyped. A quality scent though!

Tested on paper. Very good longevity.

ckorp8

Tried this at the local store. The opening tuberose act was beautiful but unfortunately short. The follow up coconut was nice but a bit mundane and not really worth being an FM perfume.

amatuerfraghead

A tuberose bomb. Creamy tuberose with jasmine, coconut (hence the creaminess), eucalyptus, and some musk. This isn't one of Ropion's most complicated work, but i can see why its one of the most famous from the house. The combination here just really work well together. Not to mention that the performance is terrific; 2-3 sprays is more than enough and it projects really well. One of the best tuberose fragrances in the market.

juliabee

Jaw-droppingly commanding, feminine, and sexy. I dream of the day I can not only afford Carnal Flower, but put on a chic little black business dress, apply several spritzes, and own every room I walk into. It's just that kind of scent.

Stunning. Just absolutely stunning. I was sort of confused at how beautiful it smelled to my nose the first time I sprayed it on. It literally stunned me. I'm fairly new to the world of very prominent white flowers, but in recent months I've been craving them. I've been going through a lot of testing with either jasmine or tuberose heavy fragrances and CF is one of the absolute best, in my opinion. The first spray hits you on the head with an intense tuberose. Photorealistic, green tuberose. It smelled as if I was handling green stems from the plant and then crushing the petals between my fingers. It also somehow smells a bit dusty. I'm not sure if that is an accurate description because dusty sounds bad, but it really isn't. It's somehow dusty and airy and green at the same time. But in a very beautiful way. It settles into a more fleshy tuberose as the green stems calm a bit down, but they never quite dissappear, much to my enjoyment. The tuberose turns creamy after a while, which I'm guessing is the coconut, although my nose can't pick up the actual coconut smell, just the creaminess from it. I love the smell of eucalyptus so it's no wonder I love it here with the tuberose, coconut, musk and the rest.

For some weird reason I don't desire to have a full bottle of this. I'd be happy with a 10 ml. decant I think. Especially since this is big and bold and lasts ages. One spray from a 2 ml. sample and people can smell it from afar.
Also, it's one of those few fragrances I feel I would only use on special occasions - not special occasions as in like fancy dressing, going out kind of things, but just days when I feel it fits the weather, my clothes, where I'm going, and how I feel. I tend to use most of what I have when I feel like it, with the occasional exception. CF is one of those exceptions. I picture myself wearing a red summer dress, hair down, walking around town in the midnight sun. But not just any day that I happen to be wearing those when it's sunny and warm - it will be one of the days when I'm wearing my red dress, the midnight sun is shining and it's the right time for Carnal Flower. It's not something that I can explain fully, all I know is I'll know when the time is right.
Such can be the magic of the right perfume 💕

Enrium

Carnal Flower is a lush, extroverted tuberose scent. It is a well-blended, strong, rich scent, centred around the flower itself. It smells expensive - of the highest quality, and is feminine-leaning in my opinion. Loud, brash and more vulgar than elegant, CF has a strong personality, but is undeniably beautiful. Carnal, yes, but also tropical and funereal at times, CF is a mutifaceted showstopper of a scent that succeeds in showcasing the many faces of the classic tuberose-led white floral accord.

CF opens with a heady, rich tuberose note that dominates until the end. Creamy, waxy and slightly sweet, it is rich and beautifully rendered. The tuberose is complemented beautifully by a slightly indolic jasmine note. There is an unexpected bubblegum note here too. It becomes tropical and summery as the coconut emerges, adding soft, creamy sweetness. Fresh, citrus-tinged orange blossom ties it all together. I get a hint of something akin to frangipani here too.

As it develops, green notes emerge thanks to the eucalyptus. This is an unusual choice, being heavy and aromatic, but it just manages not to be cloying. Here, CF becomes more funereal, evoking the image of a glamorous, black-veiled widow by her husband's coffin. I get a hint of polleny lilac too - rounding out the bouquet.

The florals remain until the very end, drying down to a soapy, slightly woody skin scent. It becomes increasingly (clean) musky as it fades. Sillage is strong and longevity moderate - not the beast it used to be, but still an excellent white floral scent. One of the definitive tuberoses, this is unexpectedly versatile. It loses half a point for reformulation - it is still excellent, but not quite as good as it once was. Still, utter luxury. 4.5/5.
