You're sitting out on a terrace surrounded by beautiful flowers and lush foliage. It's going to be a sunny day, but the sun is just popping up and the air is still crisp and a little chilly. The only noise you hear is a few birds chirping here and there. Your tea has been steeping for a few perfect minutes. You squeeze a little lemon juice, add a little sugar , give it a stir and take a sip. And you sigh...Ahhhh ! At the scenery, the delicious warmth of that slightly sweetened tea , and that very peaceful moment. That is Neroli Outrenoir.

Guerlain managed to perfectly capture the essence of that perfect cup of tea with lemon and a hint of sweetness, with the perfect amount of neroli to add something special. Stunning and perfectly unisex. Lasts for around 6-8 hours on my skin, with moderate sillage and projection. A must try for any tea lover.

ydra

best neroli tea fragrance !!

suzH99

I had been eagerly awaiting a sample of this. It finally came today. Based on the notes and the previous reviews, it seemed like something I would like. But all I get is smoke. No citrus. Not even at the beginning. No floral. Just smoke. Smells like I hung out to close to a bonfire. I could just douse myself with liquid smoke for a fraction of the price. Glad I just ordered a sample.

ech0

The opening smell of this reminds me two things at the same time, closely related: the smell of the black walls of a smoke sauna (remotely similar to birch tar, black colour coming from the smoke) and the smell of a birch whisk used in the sauna, especially when it is wet and in the basket of hot water. Tea made of birch leaves has a similar scent. Unfortunately, for my nose all this disappears quickly and something light remains for a little while, but that is also good.

After buying Angelique Noir, I was unable to purchase anything else. To me, nothing could compare to Angelique. I posted in a forum about trying to find something else that may capture me the way Angelique does, and I was told to try this. With nowhere near me at all that I could sample this, I did the stupidest thing I could do: blind buy. I adore tea, and I was wondering if fresher scents were growing on me because of the pear and Angelica note in AN, so I gave this a go. I regret blind buying. I want to try this again in the spring and summer so I won’t be parting ways with it just yet, but I’m bummed. To the point I’m tempted to wipe this scent off with an alcohol wipe. It pulls sharply citrus-y on me. I definitely get tea - not green tea. A black tea. I was hoping for some sweetness here, but I’m not finding it. I’m normally a sweet floral kind of gal - my signature scent before AN was Honour 43 by Amouage. I don’t know if it’s the fact I already had a headache, but this is definitely a scent that’s messing with my head. I saw so many refer to it as a masterpiece - with my love for AN, I had high, high hopes. I should have trusted my gut and purchased Cuir Beluga, but I was trying to find something outside of my comfort zone. An (expensive) swing and a miss. I hope to try again after my bottle sits for a bit.

EDIT: well, grab me a spoon because I’m eating my words. Its longevity is still not what I hoped, but when I tell you this GREW on me. I’m not a freshie kind of person but I wake up every morning and have to talk myself into giving another fragrance some attention. Where I spray my perfume it often gets on my sheets, and there is nothing I love more than falling asleep the night after I spray this and smelling this beautiful fragrance as I drift off. It is totally gorgeous.

AnastasiaGostieva

Interesting intense citrus with lots of naturally smelling sweet orange blossom and some unusual salty undertones. Smells very tropical and hot. For some reason I can smell lots of ylang here, despite the fact it’s not listed. Beautifully made scent! Even though I’m not a fan of these notes I like the idea of it, I would LOVE to smell it on someone else.

Pauley004

This perfume is easily a masterpiece for me. Felt in love with the first sniff, the tea and neroli are incredibly pleasant to smell. This deserves 10/10 for the scent!

yazzakasbah

A smooth green herbal neroli. Lots of tea. It has depth and complexity and lasts a long time. Fantastic!

If I must compare to seemingly similar scents: Hermès Eau de néroli doré is gone within minutes, Nishane Wūlóng Chá is artificial and flat and doesn't have neroli. Tom Ford Neroli portofino is good but superficial and weak.

DEXTER99

It's very beautiful but if I already knew this is how the scent smells like, I wouldn't buy it because I already have wulong cha by nishane, oh my God how they are almost identical at least to my nose.
For advice if u know how this one smells like please just try wulong cha first, it's less than the half of this one price.

sjfb

I feel reserved about calling this a masterpiece like other reviews do but in any case the more I wear this fantastic fragrance the more I love it. Cannot stop sniffing my wrist when I wear it it’s that good to me. Blast of sharp citrus (typical Guerlain) on opening that quite quickly dries down to an almost gourmand black tea with neroli (the Guerlain website describes the perfume as an “olfactory chiaroscuro” of neroli and
it’s probably this accord that is described by that primarily)
around this accord (though less strong) there is some slight sweetness from the benzoin and vanilla in there, and the smoky notes, myrrh and orange blossom are all present to some extent as well (more myrrh than anything else out of those though to my nose.) If neroli portofino had an ambery flanker it would be somewhat similar to this scent profile I imagine.

Longevity is good (still smelling it on myself 8 hours later currently and it REALLY sticks to clothes) with moderate projection.

To me this leans ever so slightly feminine, and because of the complexity of the notes is suited to any season, with fresh, aromatic, amber notes all being present and very detectable.

Much as I love it though, this is defo way way overpriced so I just have a small decant for wearing on special occasions. I love it so much though that I’ll probably splash out at some point for a full bottle.

Tee

Tea fragrance lover, you have to at least try this once!

Black lemon tea with neroli. with that hint of Guerlain's fluffy smooth vanilla, this one so soft, rounded yet refreshing.

Perfect for any time of the day or night. first scent in the morning, or as a afternoon pick me up.

greenglama

Smells like London's Lululemon store💚

JmThms

Very pleasant. Balanced. Smooth. Well blended. In the same wheelhouse as Byredo Bal d'Afrique and Creed Pure White Cologne and even a Dior Sauvage Ballade (although no fig component) as far as pleasantness, unisex/leaning slightly feminine orientation. And far closer in scent profile to a Creed Pure White Cologne than to a Creed Royal Oud, which is listed as a "....reminds me of" fragrance on this page! 😂 The gender appropriateness ratings on this page are about right. But its unisex enough for me to wear, as was Bal d'Afrique and Pure White Cologne. Particularly with the earthy notes.

HelenRainbow

I have Néroli Outrenoir Guerlain in old design bottle 75 ml. It seems appropriate for both genders because of a sharp earthy citrus start and overall cool freshness. And as I see it it’s rather green tea even milk oolong, than black one. The main note is distinctive fresh neroli. But also it has a really interesting nuance similar to green tomato leaves. Longevity and projection are great.

Dixieland Delight

One of the best things I've ever smelled, period. Top 5 in my collection, minimum.

Yes, the notes are there. But this is a fragrance that is much more than the sum of its parts. Unique, nothing else like it. Citrus, sure. Tea, oh yes. Neroli/orange blossom/petitgrain, yes but transformed.

This is the encyclopedia definition of perfumery masterpiece.

10/10 easy.

Unisex with elements that lean masculine and feminine.

Breathing in the Wake

Masterpiece is an understatement. The initial blast of citrus that isn't quite lemon or orange hits you first. It intrigues you and pulls you in. You're then briefly hit with the brightness of the neroli and immediately it shifts to the tea notes. Without fail, people flock towards this scent and have to know what it is. Every. Single. Time. I have never not been asked what I am wearing when I have this one on. A must have for collectors and lovers of unique scents. I'm on my second bottle and planning to purchase a third.

BohoLily

This is lovely. It reminds me of L’Ile au Thé Goutal, which I wore almost all summer nearly a decade ago. It’s like a cup of premium Darjeeling tea with a slice of lemon served in a china teacup. Yum! To my nose, the tea note is prominent and the neroli is calming and smooth. I can’t help but keep sniffing my arm.

watchaka

Painfully gorgeous.

like being transported back in time and into the future, simultaneously. yet always present. Give it a wear in a different type of land, like santa fe NM, and return with your suitcase filled with the aroma of escapism and imagination.

tanaC

2 ml. from Friend,

I crave Guerlain Guerlain Outrénoir.
I refuse to believe Neroli can be this Sexy but it is.

While this is fresh, it still manage to have very smoke undertone.
That's just so right. Def. full bottle worthy.

dabeyondobsessedemperor

I think the most commonly used word in this comments section is "masterpiece", and knowing what Neroli Outrenoir smells like, that word completely befits the fragrance. It is, indeed, a masterpiece.

The fragrance is oddly and vaguely nostalgic upon opening--I can't quite place my finger on it, though I think it associates with a childhood tradition I had with my family where they would go to the beach every year for no other reason but to sit in the hotel lobby to snack on tea and lemon biscuits (for some reason).

Notwithstanding that slightly irrelevant point, the opening is very much a blast of citrus and black tea. The accord here is almost salivating--this might be the first and only time I'd ever describe a citrus fragrance as "gourmand". But to me it just feels like that very much. As the fragrance develops, the citrus and tea notes remain a constant but now feel quite akin to an expensive soap, and blend well with luxurious resins and a hint of a ginger note somewhere right before fading away. It's a beautiful symphony of scents, from start to finish.

Now, performance time--it's a cool, smooth 5 hours of projection (typically) on my skin, with up to 9-10 hours of lasting as a skin scent before completely dying out. Which, honestly, isn't so bad for a citrus fragrance.

I'm not gonna lie--prior to my purchase of Neroli Outrenoir, I kept hearing from different sources that Guerlain is the gold standard for fragrances, but due to my obsession with the work of brands like Creed, Parfums de Marly, MFK, etc. I hadn't really had a desire to explore Guerlain fragrances until recently.

Now, I understand.

Guerlain's collection of private-blend fragrances might run expensive, but I put them on-par, or even superior, to the famous niche perfumeries like the ones listed above, when it comes to quality and craft. The actual scent profile? Now that's subjective, but so far, I'm loving what I'm seeing, both with this and Herbes Troublantes (the hand soap of which I intend to buy very soon and place beside every faucet I own). Job well done, Guerlain (as if you needed to hear that).

jasbailey

I didn't realize I was a tea fan until now, it is a wow factor of a perfume - it lasts and is unique. I won't rehash the notes because I think most people trust what Fragrantica lists. What is important is that it stays on my skin in the summer and that it lasts on my clothes for days - my jacket carries the scent.

Tincel

Something here makes it cloying. Also, this perfume made me realize I am not a fan of tea fragrances- not a good sign I would say.

A_Ferrera

Nothing "outrenoir" about it, in fact the exact opposite, I still think that it is gorgeous in humidity!

ATC

Unisex and office safe. Fresh citrusy and nothing super exciting. Only like not love.

Xela_529

Neroli Outrenoir is a like, not a love for me. The tea here is VERY strong. It made me realize that tea doesn't only need to be a light and fresh note. My issue with Neroli Outrenoir is simply the high price tag. I think for what she is, she's not worth it for me. If you want a good tea scent I'd suggest going with either The Yulong or Wulong Cha since they get the job done in terms of a tea fragrance, and they are a fraction of the price of NO. The one differentiator that NO has over those 2 options is that she's louder and more in your face. So if you want a tea fragrance that is very bold then NO very well may be for you. If you want something more relaxing from a tea fragrance then I wouldn't go with this one.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I found this scent fairly pleasant. It's definitely what I'd define as a truly unisex perfume for both men and women. It doesn't really lean one way or the other, really. I wouldn't wear it myself, though. I like things that are more classically feminine or that lean that way. Also too earthy for me.

I smelt the petigrain and the bergamot first, giving me a citrus tea burst at the beginning, reminiscent of earl grey tea. I then get the neroli and the orange blossom notes fairly strongly, giving it a good dose of citrusy white floral goodness. I can smell these trees spotted throughout the landscape. No indoles, though. And just a decent amount sweet. I then smell the tea note again and also the smoke note and the oakmoss note, making me think of a forest of birch trees with dark green leaves and being under the canopies of the trees.

The image this paints is of me being under all of these trees at the beginning of the evening at around 5pm or 6pm and drinking my Earl grey tea on a picnic blanket, the scent of neroli, birch, smoke from a fire nearby I made to keep warm and the breeze wafting the smell of neroli and orange blossoms into my nostrils. It's a very idyllic perfume and very aromatic, as the note profiles listed here on Fragrantica would suggest.

Néroli Outrenoir has moderate projection and it stays for a very long time on the skin, for around 9 hours or so. I can see this scent being considered very pleasant by most and it being a very office safe or job interview safe perfume. You're not going to offend anyone with this scent!

All in all, about a 7 out of 10 for me.

amanda0727

A very pretty fresh scent. I do agree, it is somewhat generic and makes me sort of think of lobbies of fancy hotels, but this fragrance is more refined. Still, it is my 2nd fav out of all Guerlains i have sampled so far and i totally would wear this. Like, this is way better than Creed Silver Mountain Water. And it made me realize i love neroli. I also love Villa Neroli from BDK.

Ansarit

A friend of mine mailed me a sample of this and when I tested it out I thought it was quite nice but pretty generic and mainstream. It’s a clean fresh tea fragrance that imo could be unisex. I thought it was okay until I realized it’s a $400 scent . Smells more like a $80 scent than anything

Update- scent doesn’t stay linear. It’s getting quite nicer. More richer more refined, however I still don’t say it’s worth $400

Overall- 7.1/10

iszzieanna

On my skin, the tea note turns into a jasmine-black tea blend. Not too familiar with types of teas but it is quite perfumey. I also get the neroli. It’s very clean and soapy, uplifting. In the background, lots of smoke, resins and benzoin.

BeardedIris

A warm, polished blend of soft benzoin and fragrant, darjeeling-like tea that's elevated to the top tier by its thick layer of calming neroli and fuzzy orange blossom. Just inhaling this slows my heart rate and puts a smile on my face whenever I catch a whiff of it throughout the day.

I'm not normally big on tea scents but this lighter and slightly smoky note definitely appeals. The supposed "underbrush" note — it smells a little like being under a hedge — is there too but it's subtle. A manicured Guerlain underbrush, adding earthy complexity without altering the perfume's balance.

The challenge with Néroli Outrenoir is when to wear it. In deep winter it can be too thin and green and in warm weather the neroli can be overshadowed by the tea and the ambery benzoin. But today, in cool, early spring it was perfect.

Dixieland Delight

Masterpiece.

klioux

I've tried a handful of Guerlain's and this is far and away my favorite. It was a bit of a surprise, as I don't often enjoy white floral-forward fragrances. However, I always love a well-done tea note, and the mix of petitgrain, neroli, tea, and citrus is just right. It is classic and clean, yet still complex and juicy.

SmellMyCheese

Spectacular imho, I think this is the best tea fragrance you can buy. Actual smell of black tea, which seems to be hard to pull off given the many who have tried and failed, and it lasts a good while. Intermingled with that is a clean neroli-citrus accompaniment which surprisingly works great with it.

For my personal tastes, this is the best of the L'ART & LA MATIÈRE line.

If you like the smell of real black tea, and you enjoy fragrances like Neroli Portofino you'll love this one.

Vladi

Did anyone notice that it seems that it has been reformulated? Before it seemed to be more "oily" and the "guerlinade" was so present, now it seems that it has a lighter feeling and the scent disappears more quickly... As to older version I am referring to the initial vintage bottles with a "puff".

Dixieland Delight

This is beautiful. Starts citrus petitgrain, neroli, dark tea, then gets deeper and richer and more amazing as it dries down. Tremendous. Unisex leaning slightly male as it dries down to me. This is truly a ride of a fragrance. I love it.

Has a light sense at the top. But dark and deep and rich at the bottom.

I could understand some men thinking this leans fem, due to the florals - but for some reason the tea and musk and smoke makes this lean masculine to me.

10/10

OneRedRose

This is NOT unisex. Bought a bottle for about $300. Leans more toward women. Fantastic classy scent for a woman though! One of my faves! A male version that smells similar but more on the manly side would be Ferrari Noble Fig... way less expensive, similar vibe scent but stays close to you. As for Neroli Outrenoir scent... it's the smell of a classy elegant woman! 2 thumbs up!

IamdrinkingBeer

One of my favorite summer scents. Amazing quality citrus and black tea, with slight amber base, and some smoke around it. Surprisingly it doesnt bore me for a citrus. Finally found my new summer love!

PS: You may think that its feminine at first, but its more complex than that. I think a perfect unisex scent.

ScentFan2021

Gorgeous neroli fragrance. I don't know if it is groundbreaking, but as usual with Guerlain, it is high-quality.

Profumoh

Totally in love with this one. The persistent tea notes make this citrus fragrance elegant and adaptable to multiple situations. After three hours, as citrus notes start to fade away, I get a delicate tea skin scent with quite a good longevity (5-6 hours). One of the best fragrances I have tried this summer, very elegant and uncommon. If you are looking for something different than the typical citrusy fragrance for the summer, this is definitely worth a trial. The price is high but aligned with niche standards.

SprayLove

I went to the Guerlain store and asked for a good fragrance to perform on classical concerts especially on my favorite era, the baroque era. I wanted a fragrance that represent my love for Rameau, Couperin, Lully and all the great french baroque composers. They made me test this one and I was completely bewildered. It did exactly what I wanted, transported me to this space of a grand french opera of the baroque era.

It's a neroli fragrance with a dark undertone. There's a sublime smoked tea note. The neroli and the citruses give off a very classic clean vibe. It gets more flowery and smokey but also there is theses mosses and vanilla. It's poetic, it has an artistic yet likeable vibe and is very very unique.

aboutjujulia

Unexpected it to love this neroli perfume!!! Surprise to detect the tea scent here, and (because) it last longer compares to other perfumes that have tea. It smells very balance, but I am still looking for MORE and more LEGENDARY and MONEY-WORTH scents created by GUERLAIN. But still...
Amazing easy-going fragrance

brokesta911

Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir (2016) - morning brunch - #delphinejelk and #thierrywasser was able to recreate having breakfast in the garden where you can smell foliage and orange blossom trees. Sipping a cup of earl grey tea - smokey black tea, bergamot. The drydown has this combination of musky and vegetal ambrette, incense-like Myrrhe, and mossy-vanilla that is uniquely Guerlain.

Klonoa07

One of my favorites from this line. The other one I love is Cuir beluga. I Love tea fragrances and enjoy neroli quite a bit, this has both and it’s divine. The tea gives it this tiny bit of bitterness so it tames the sweetness of the benzoin and vanilla making it perfect for spring and summer. I don’t ever want to be without this beauty

Fragaddict123

Usually neroli is a bad word in any fragrance I buy simply because I despise neroli dominant fragrances
So the truth is I was worried but somehow trusting guerlain to craft this scent
Fortunately I was right they nailed it incredible citrus scent with very little neroli so I was genuinely happy with it
I received a complement that the fragrance is simply radiating from my clothes which made my day

muzzbait

As with drinking tea, this has a bitter element to it which I do not like.
Bitterness aside, it is a pleasant, quite tame scent, but the tea tends to push it into "don't like" territory.
The citrus is soft and subtle, as are all the other elements, but that bitter tea note; not a fan...

Maleoh

This is a true delight. The most luxurious yet pure tea you could drink. It makes me thirsty when I smell it. I would drink that bottle up. I won't because of the price. But still. I believe it's more for warmer days and I'm the kind of wear it when you like it kind of person. It's fresh yet a little bit dark mysterious and yummy. Unisex leans feminine perhaps. A true bliss. Try to grab a sample. This is a masterpiece.

ScentFan2021

Gorgeous AND relaxing. Perhaps it will make my blood pressure go down haha. Does this without smelling like a spa. It just makes you feel pretty. It's safe for work, not in your face.

Something in here dries down and reminds me a little bit of La Nuit Tresor or one of its flankers. It must be the tangerine, bergamot, and vanilla, because those are the only notes in common. Maybe the "earthy notes" listed here have some in common with LNT. I'm not saying it smells just like LNT at all; there's simply a hint of it in here (to my nose). And that's a good thing.

It is not "sexy" like LNT, probably because there are more green notes, and it is not nearly as sweet. But it is very beautiful, and, as the reviewer below me noted, very calming. I am a fan for sure.

UPDATE! HOLY GRAIL & MASTERPIECE - 7 months later!
———-
Yes; I shelled out $360 USD for this. Year rounder that’s versatile for any occasion. I’d be remiss not to mention the engraving & customizable flourishes. I normally don’t give a hoot about presentation, but this is a lasting experience and gives me an extra luxurious feeling every time I reach for it.

**My description:
I enjoy tea scents. The tea here strikes me as black, & of the highest quality. It’s bitter & realistic, but not off-putting. It’s subdued yet present, smoked, yet damp, fresh, yet earthy, light, yet substantial and deep. When I say light, I don’t mean fleeting or freshie. Far from it! It’s uplifting on the deepest level. This is deeper neroli/orange blossom, not a bright citrus, thank goodness. I’m bored of those. (Wulong, etc.) This is a welcome change, & that’s the clincher. There’s no black tea like this on the market that I’m aware of. It pains me to say, I do find this “traditionally femme,” not unisex, if that matters to you. I don’t understand the smokey reference. It’s not smokey. It’s more ‘baked.’ Smokey, it is not.

**Mood:
It’s calming & therapeutic. Very versatile & great for work, given its calming effect. In fact, the day I received it & wore it, both my mother & sister commented (via phone) that I sounded more calm than usual.

**Comparison:
I struggled with making the decision to get this or Angelique Noir. In the end, this was less sweet, lasts longer, fuller bodied & more complex. If this helps anyone, A.N. lasts 3 hours on me. (For the record, I Love A.N.)

**Performance:
This one gives me 5-6 hours, with projection for 2, and nice wafts for 6. I won’t lie- For ME, the price to performance ratio is disappointing for my conservative wallet. To get my personal desired effect, I have to spray 10 times, & it’s still not overbearing, intrusive or offensive. If you have the resources to spray to your heart’s content, or if you prefer a light, personal scent, I do recommend it, & envy you! (It’s quite a good performer compared to the rest of the L’Art collection.

**Overall:
Delightful experience with each wear. The bottle has gotten better and better over time. Would I repurchase? As long as $$ is flowing in, yes.

molly1217

A cup of herbal tea with the fragrance of citrus and orange blossom.
I was immersed in the fresh greenness of Bergamot and Petitgrain and couldn't help myself, especially the astringency of the very real tea aroma, orange blossom and neroli oil, both sour and sweet. very good.
When Ambrette came out of the tea with myrrh, on the surface, Ambrette added a bit of wood to Neroli Outrenoir, and Thierry made sure Neroli Outrenoir wasn't too monotonous thanks to the presence of patchouli.
The scent of Neroli Outrenoir is airy, light, clean and moist, perfect for the heat of spring and summer. It is a rare and excellent work in the theme of orange blossom.

SailorV

This is not your usual boring neroli cologne. It has much more depth and weight. I looked up "outrenoir" and the word is apparently used to describe an art style "involving endless depth of blackness". Well, I wouldn't go that far to describe this scents, but it certainly is a darker kind of neroli thanks to the very prominent smoked tea note. It's bitter, almost savory, but also kind of creamy and adds a very interesting effect to the pure freshness of the other notes.

Despite the smokeyness this feels like spring and would make a good daytime scent. It really smells like they blended the whole orange tree into this, excluding the fruit, but including a little moss from around the tree and a few bergamots. Petitgrain, neroli and orange blossom come together in seamless harmony, I can't pinpoint where one ends and the other begins.
A tiny dose of powdery vanilla in the base make it smell recognizeably Guerlain and helps to anchor the more fleeting notes.

It reminds me a little bit of the drydown of Aqua Allegoria Teazzura, but ironically I get more tea from Neroli Outrenoir. They're not the same, I imagine them as two sisters, Teazzura being the young and optimistic one while Neroli is the older one who has seen more of the world and isn't as carefree anymore.
Out of the L'Art & la Matière line I find this closest to Angelique Noire - both combine bright vanilla with greener notes, but Neroli Outrenoir is fresher and less vanillic.
I don't see how 27 people could find this similar to E. Arden Green Tea, that's a completely different take on tea in my opinion... But every nose is different and every experience is valid, of course, I just want to say that this isn't the usual green tea freshie to me.

Luluteeter

Unreal bergamot, tea, neroli fragrance. Feels fresh and clear. One of my all time/holy grail favorites. Ridiculous price yes, but you bet I own it.

Rpscil11

This is one of my favorites in the line because it is clean yet interesting. It layers perfectly with my everyday body lotion, which has a soft neroli scent (REN Neroli & Grapefruit Body Cream). It lasts until evening, then I usually layer Angelique Noir on top.

spiceysauce5

100% agree with ycqc below.

Great tea/neroli scent that is clean and mostly simple, but subtle complexity from the smoke, petitgrain, and hint of warmer notes of myrhh/benzoin/ambrette. I think it's the best of this type of scent I've smelled.

Very nice, would think it's a great buy at $100, no way for $300 unless you love this genre.

7/10

spiceysauce5

I get mostly tea, neroli, and a bit of subtle smoke which makes this unique. It's blended superbly and is very smooth and classy, perfect for spring imo. Price is steep for what it offers, but if looking for the best simple uplifting tea scent (with that touch of smoke) , this is #1. I find it truly unisex, I'd wear it and would love to smell it on my SO.

On my skin, I get mainly (in order) bergamot (with a candy like effect), ambrette, tea, vanilla, incense. When I tried this years ago, I remembered it being a lot more headache inducing but thankfully my memory served incorrectly as this is just marvelous.

I, too, see connections to Teazurra and it attaches itself to my skin in much the same way the Aqua Allegorias typically do, but perhaps the cloud around my skin is a bit more dense and, thus, it has a bit more present.

Is it worth the money? I don't really know. It wears better on me than Teazurra, but not by a whole lot more... by this I mean it smells a little better, it performs worse on my skin. I guess it really depends. Regardless of the similarity, I think that this over Teazurra alone would make the price tag worth it.
Having both would also have its benefits, too. I'm writing this more so I remember, but it would be advisable to anyone to try both before diving for either.

Edit: despite the close-to-the-body sillage, it lasts quite a bit!

One iced tea with lemon, coming up~

Bubbles1964

An easy to wear citrus, tea and identifiable Guerlain vanilla scent. I pick up incense and benzoin in the base. Its all very natural, and at retail price it should be. Classy.

Tolkashutka

The first time I wore it, I was surprised at how much resinous vanilla it had. I was expecting an orange-like scent with Neroli in the name, but I was pleasantly unprepared for the smoky/sexy orange dreamsicle scent I encountered. The second time around, I didn’t perceive it to be quite as sweet, and noticed a more prominent sweet black tea note instead.

Longevity is solid, lasting around 9-10 hours total, and projecting moderately for at least the first 5-6 hours. It feels a bit too heavy from the resins to pull off in the high heat of summer, but is versatile in mild spring or fall. I would happily accept this as a gift, but I’m not sure I like it enough to pay $350+ for it.

I want to explain briefly; It's just the aromatic black tea, bergamot and sugar , nothing more.
Not for me.

ceeceelee

This smells like a high end loose tea purveyor on one of the little side streets in Mayfair. One where people in the know go to pick quality tea for their week. And as you walk in the door, someone has placed a vase of citrus~y floral Neroli and a small grapefruit to the side of the entrance so that as you walk in you get hit with that Neroli bouquet, slight grapefruit and tea. But the further you walk in the shop, the further away the flowers go. You still get a hint of the citrus floral, but it's the luscious tea that's preoccupying your nose. The tea is floral too, and a touch smokey sweet in it's own right. To me this is very unisex, but sophisticated ~ maybe like the reviewer below me said; it may not be terribly complex, but the materials used are top notch, making the simple, divine. I've used for a few days straight and the base notes haven't make an appearance for me, could be weather, it's very hot where I'm at. A strong like, may turn into a love depending on variables. Not a safe blind buy even if you love tea scents, if you don't like neroli

Wakeful Bird

This is wonderful! Deep, bright black tea uplifted by citrus fruits and orange blossom. After a few minutes of slight sharpness, it feels perfectly blended. There's just a touch of sweetness. The smoke, earth and resins are barely discernible, but they lend a balanced depth to the fragrance. I think it will be lovely in summer, fall, and winter. On me it feels to the feminine side of unisex, which I appreciate, but I could easily imagine this working well on an elegant man. It's not assertively unisex like, say, Eau de Guerlain; instead, like the pure smell of tea itself, Neroli Outrenoir could really be pulled either way, depending on chemistry and context. No leather or tobacco here: real tea, and the various essences of citrus trees, true and sweet and subtle. This doesn't have the complex multifaceted structure of some of the other great Guerlains, but it's a masterpiece in its own way. It's a serious and beautiful fragrance. Signature worthy!

hsiangchi.huang

It reminds me of going to the pool at a five-star hotel. The citrus/neroli/earthiness is uplifting and relaxing. This is the perfect vacation scent! I don't get any smokiness, it's probably blended in the earthy notes. I like how this frag is not overly citrusy although being a summer frag, cause neroli/bergamot can be sharp and remind of men's cologne. This is definitely unisex, perhaps leaning a tad more feminine.

blossomka

7/10. Smoky spice. Aromatic. Unusual. Orange with vanilla underneath. Tropical barky fruit. Earl grey, oolong tea. Too masculine for me but interesting on a man. I might want to get a little closer to find out that unusual scent.

cranky137

Absolutely amazing. I am very sceptical to neroli, I often find it harsch and boring. I had zero expectations about this one.

Luckily, I don't detect any neroli in this fragrance. It is all about a tea fragrance. After an hour or so, the sweetness come through. which was a complete surprise for me. The type of Guerlain vanilla as a reminder of Sylvaine Delacourte. It is so well-done, of course, it is Guerlain, but such an olafctory masterpiece with distinct layers.

I will consider getting abottle of this.

"Resinous Neroli Tea" MASTERPIECE

Neroli Outrenoir doesn't scream Guerlain. It only has hints of the traditional guerlainade sauce in the base. As many have said before me, it is a neroli + black tea + myrrh/resins scent. These notes might sound simple or maybe boring. But it is absolutely stunningly gorgeous. I'm constantly on edge that it's going to be discontinued because everything I love this much gets the axe.

Neroli Outrenoir somehow manages to be a refreshing green citrusy neroli that actually lasts and lasts throughout almost the entire life of the fragrance on my skin; which is an impressive 8+ hours (a full day at the office). Usually neroli and citrus scents are the quickest to fade, so I'm not sure how Thierry Wasser & Delphine Jelk are doing this, but this little number lasts. This bright, cheerful and sunshiny neroli is paired with a steeped and brisk black tea note that's unmistakable. I think of a proper traditional tea service, afternoon tea at the Savoy in London. Fresh tea leaves in a silver strainer with a porcelain tea pot. Later this brisk tea meets a guerlainade base of sorts; this one is focused on myrrh along with some slightly smoky, earthy and ambery notes. You don't smell these three elements separately after a while, it just all melts together into this bright sunshiny scent over a slightly sweet resinous base. It's literally brilliant.

Neroli Outrenoir has been my signature scent for my professional life for a few years now. It works in all seasons. Brisk enough for summer and resinous enough for winter. I'm always aware how so many people are sensitive to fragrance so this seems to be perfect for wearing around office colleagues. They can smell it because it projects, but it seems to only smell bright and refreshing to them. It's expensive so I don't have a back-up bottle. I only need about 3 maybe 4 sprays to last almost the whole day so my bottle is still about half full and I've had it a few years. I never have to worry about anyone else wearing it or smelling similar; it's my signature for my work life. Absolutely perfect for the office because I think it conveys a seriousness (not sexy) yet it's a bold, confident and crisp fragrance. I wear entirely different scents for downtime with family and friends but this is just so perfect for my office persona. I love Neroli Outrenoir so much. It's a MASTERPIECE. BRILLIANT 10/10

dyst_opiates

I don't exactly know why this one grabs me so much. On paper it wasn't one I was super intrigued with, but I got a sample... which swiftly lead to a full bottle.

It has that certain... je ne sais quois that really good fragrances have. All the notes are just so well balanced, and unfold beautifully.

Citrus can be kinda twee and simple, and/or disappear in moments. However, this takes citrus and makes it sublime. The ambrette (and other heart notes I can't pick out individually) elevate the sweet citrus.

The neroli is perfect. It isn't one I love typically but it works SO WELL here.

It does have good sillage- especially the citrus. The longevity is okay- the citrus lasts surprisingly long in fact- but it does fade to a very light skin scent about halfway through a day.

The citrus makes it reasonably day-friendly. It isn't too intense for work. Like a lot of Guerlain perfumes, I feel like they're pretty "adult" in feel; at 45 I guess I've grown in to their scent demographic though, but they don't clash with my bright purple hair either.

Papavero0

This is an incredibly nostalgic scent for me. It reminds me of easy mornings having tea infusion with my mother and grandmother. They would put a lot of lemon juice and honey in my herbal tea so the overall effect was very zingy, fresh and sweet. I'm not saying this smells like honey, but it does smell sweet to me (please do not think Aqualina Pink sugar with my choice of the word "sweet"). This is a delightful neroli, tea leaf and citrus on a bed of fluffy clean ambrette and bezoin. Very slight "earthy"/incense tones, I think they are blended with the tea accord. It is supremely comforting and nostalgic for me. Also reminiscent of the feeling of putting on a clean ironed shirt. It smells like bright mornings

SvenSvenston

Despite the citrusy accords, for me, this will be a scent for the fall.

On the opening, I get this beautiful aroma of freshly chopped oak wood. It's a very nostalgic smell. As a child I used to help my father during the autumn saw and split up wood, to use as winter heating fuel, and the scent of the wood after it was cut is always so memorable. As a simple explanation I think the chemicals in the sap of the wood must give off a similar molecular vibration to the ones used in this fragrance!

Aside from the smoky woody part of this fragrance, the welcomed white florals really add a soft and delicate touch to the darker undertones, with the sweetness of the amber, vanilla and myrrh blending seamlessly in between.

Guerlain always seem to produce quality fragrances but I think they really have something really special here.

Lorax

This is close to citrus aromatic perfection for me. Its bright but not sharp, refreshing but substantial, youthful but mature. The blend of tea, neroli and orange blossom is gently bright and clean and a little sweet but a little bitter, and the smoke and benzoin/myrrh give it a subtle coziness and depth that sneaks up on you. I prefer it in warm weather but it holds its own in the winter as well. It lasts about 4-6 hours, and has a gentle sillage that waxes and wanes. It quite unisex, and is a different interpretation of neroli from almost anything else I have tried. It is sophisticated but easy to wear. Its invigorating but content. While I describe it in so many contradictions, they are really just beautiful contrasts that end up complementing each other- it is a mercurial creature that just works.

Michelle12345678

Very beautiful. Long-lasting. Black tea with some sugar added. Neroli. Citrus. The kind of smokiness that you find in some black teas. In the beginning, for the first three hours, I think it smells better in the air than it does when you put your nose close to your skin.

But after the drydown, after about three hours, it smells amazing when you bury your nose in your skin. Slightly sweet.

A real tea-lover's scent. If you love tea scents, you will love this.

A real gem from Guerlain. I actually think this could easily be worn year-round. A bit of darkness for the winter. A bit of lightness for the summer. A mingling of both for spring and fall.

CreamSunshine

Smelling this without knowing any of the notes, after an hour or so on my skin I thought it smelled like hay and lemon. It’s nice. ‘Like’ but not ‘love’ for me.

dsty

I like almost every neroli/orange blossom scent provided it's well done, which is a low bar for a scent from the Art & Matière line, so I expected to like Néroli Outrenoir as well. What I didn't expect, though, was that I'd like it enough to consider paying the high price to add a full bottle to my already substantial (decant) collection of orange blossoms. But it turns out I do! I was sold on it the minute I first tested it, and I've used up almost half of my decant in a few weeks' time, which is a rare occurence for me.

I'm not sure what it is that delights me so much about it - I recently tested another high end orange blossom scent that reminds people of this one according to this page, Lancôme's Oranges Bigarades, and while I liked that one just as much as I thought I would, I didn't fall in love with it, and it's hard to explain where the difference lies. I'm sure it's partly just a simple matter of taste, but at the same time I think Néroli Outrenoir is really very special. I think it's a combination of a simply very well made neroli/orange blossom accord, with an original and equally well executed setting. On the one hand there's a bright, bitter tea/petitgrain accord, and on the other hand a darker, sweeter base of resins and vanilla. It creates an interplay of light and dark which is as enjoyable as it is interesting. It's more substantial than most neroli scents, which also gives it better longevity than most, but it's not at all heavy. I can imagine wearing it in all kinds of weather, and in any situation from casual to festive.

So now I'm seriously considering a full bottle, even though it would be the most expensive perfume I've ever owned if I do buy it. But I'm sure it will be a new staple in my wardrobe - better start saving up!

Houdini4

Wow!

I hadn't revisited this line in some time and I don't even think this wasn't even released the last time I did?
Neroli and I have a strange love/hate thing going on but I'm increasingly a lover of all things neroli and orange blossom.

This is ultimately about three vital elements and I don't need any list of notes or ingredients to tell me that Tea, Neroli, and petitgrain feature in this beautiful perfume. A long lasting vaguely metallic, smoky tea note, is what the dry down leaves you with but the opening has that green element I love about authentic and well judged neroli perfumes (I adored Abel's Golden Neroli for this) coupled with the unmistakable, substantive citrus smell of petitgrain.

Now I associate this line with having the same vanilla theme running through them and although not overt and perhaps imagined? I detect the rounding effect and smoothness associated with it rather than overt sweetness or anything. This is sublime perfume and really prominent with tea after several hours. I thought it was inspired and a welcome break from the Neroli portofino, soapy type Neroli's this is just in a whole other class of it's own.

prada_man23

I wish there was more smoke/noir. "Pretty" comes to mind. Good concept with the contrast.

I am not generally a fan of neroli; in fragrances, it usually smells a bit harsh and outdated to me. Néroli outrenoir was suggested to me at a Guerlain consultation, and at first, I wasn't into it. I ended up buying Angélique noire (also an outstanding creation) that day instead. Nonetheless, I couldn't forget Néroli outrenoir. I went back, sampled it a second time, and bought it on the spot. The main thrust of the scent is a sort of sparkling black licorice/black tea accord, but this is elevated and made luminous by the sharp neroli and sweet resins. This one has garnered me two compliments by strangers. Very unisex, and works better in warmer weather. I'd also say that this is a bit "younger" than many of the classic Guerlain. A wonderful addition to their collection and mine.

vando

It's fresh and soothing, chique and uplifting. Makes you want to inhale deeply every time a hint of it passes your nose

clintjr82

Smells real good and captivating . An exquisite scent. It doesnt have the usual floral fresh neroli smell like the Tom fords or mueglers nerolis which is good a good thing. It’s Very unique. This is the best neroli scent to date. I would purchase.

chickenpotpie

Neroli Outrenoir is a mercurial shape shifter depending on season. I live in florida which means we have hot and humid, or hot and dry (sometimes cold and dry but thats another story)

In wet season (hot and humid), I got more dirty citrus, orange, beautiful tea notes, and ash. I get very minimal floral activity.

In dry season (hot and dry), its more floral with ribbons of neroli and jasmine, far less ash and tea, but the myrrh really shines and I love it this time of year.

I love all the facets of this perfume and how they present themselves in each season as you get these sheer layers the build to create the scent.

Longevity is good in all seasons, but of course, you get much more of a sillage cloud the more humid it is! IMO a very good all around perfume that brings something different to the genre.

tayyabforyouth

This is an interesting neroli and green tea fragrance that gets progressively warmer with time with a note of vanilla increasing after initial application. The opening (which lasts for a few hours) is like al-Rehab Green Tea, but that is lemon with green tea while this is neroli with green tea. Oddly I also get a faint fig note. Sillage is moderate while longevity is moderate at about 5 hours. Overall the scent is nice and leans a bit feminine but is still unisex in my opinion. If I didn't have other neroli fragrances which I like better, I'd give this a higher score.

3.5/5

Jonz1988

Kanak and No-fi took the words right out of my mouth so I would just be repeating the same thing. It’s an extremely artistic creation and if neroli is a note that doesn’t really excite you, you’re in for a surprise. I sure as hell was surprised with this beauty and if I dare say “masterpiece”.

Projection: 5/5 (6 feet for the first 6 hours then about three feet after that it never becomes a skin scent)
Longevity: 5/5 (12 hours-26 hours on my skin)
Uniqueness: 4.5/5 for all its complexities
Scent: 5/5

Lipglossjunkee

This is a lovely unisex concoction that relies heavily on neroli/orange blossom/petitgrain, which makes it perfect for Spring/Summer in my opinion. Lasts 5+ hours with one spray, and I do get glimpses of the tea note mixed in there as well as the ambrette and benzoin, which keeps this from smelling too much like bathroom cleaner. I get no smoke and honestly very little vanilla, but overall I like this one. Definitely unisex, especially compared to some of the other Guerlain offerings of late.

Annabear

I have a vial sample only so I have tried it just a couple of times. I can barely detect the neroli on my skin as the tea note dominates entirely. It’s subtle and low key, the fragrance you’d turn to when you don’t want to smell like you’re wearing fragrance.
Not at all my type of fragrance, only because tea notes aren’t my thing, however, I acknowledge the beauty of this composition.

miracleborgtech

A stunning tea scent from Guerlain's L'Art et La Matiere collection - basically olfactory art created through the use of the finest raw materials available. Outrenoir - 'beyond black'- referring to the smokey black tea note which is exquisite. Bergamot, tangerine, grapefruit and lemon fuse and sparkle amid the darker tea. Next to their juicy vigor, the neroli and orange blossom have a powdery effect, and the whole is a rich explosion of blended beautiful accords.

I couldn't get enough of the fragrance, continually sniffing my arm for more! I've been systematically trying new tea centric perfumes, and this is one of the best.
This is a gorgeous fragrance from Thierry Wasser, Guerlain's in-house nose. Some of my favorites of his work are the Les Deserts d'Orient collection, and the exotic Shalimar Ode a la Vanille Sur le Route du Mexique. His ability to weave complex accords that tantalize the senses is superb.

Sillage is soft, so heavy application is my approach, even dousing my hair so the scent surrounds me. FB in my near future!

JoeMacchiato

Not a clone but very similar to the affordable Teazzurra, which has just been brought back to production.

Chris v.V.

Hmmm...I see this fragrance is in the citrus aromatic category, but it feels more straight-up floral to me. The initial citrus blast dissipates within milliseconds. Next phase is quite strong: tea, smoke (my husband likens it to pipe tobacco, which I like) and some neroli. This settles down to an interesting tea/neroli combo (usually tea doesn't linger but, happily, this one does), warmed by a touch of vanilla. I've been wanting to sample this for a while. Glad I did. It's a cold, grey, miserable day here, and this "citrus aromatic" is very wearable.

trabuquera

Very special indeed ... a bit like a scented version of one of those optical illusions where your brain flits between two completely different interpretations of the same image (is it a glass or two people in profile? Ducks or fishes? that sort of thing.) My brain toggles between getting greenish-smoky tea and bright clean citrus from this, with both aspects done with impeccable taste and deeply deeply satisfying as well as staying intriguing. Only got a tiny spritz of this amid a department store sniffing rampage so I need to go back to it in spring before deciding to jump or not - it's far too expensive to be an impulse buy - but it has tickled my nose in all the right ways. Just hugely seductive.

ETA: got a FB as a present and falling for it all the way, baby - its true magnificence comes out when you've had time to wear it on different days and see how it plays. Applied generously enough the longevity will stretch to 9-10h and it cycles fascinatingly from tea to citrus to tea to deliciously sweetly-powdery, almost earthy amber notes underneath, wisps of smoke drifting through, but all in a contained and discreet forcefield of loveliness all around you. Also presents different facets in different temperatures / humidity. At some moments it even seems to have a bizarre, yet welcome, sort of toasted-rice or other cereal note to it - which sounds horrid but isn't. That sweet, earthy, vanilla-tinged amber effect at the end hangs on for absolutely aaaages and is a delicious closing chapter, too.

This is just *SO* good. Don't write it off after a first sniff as just a 'light, short-lived, overrated and overpriced citrus" like I almost did. It is so so so much more.

freewheelingvagabond

Guerlain's Neroli Outrenoir is a release that's a part of their 'luxe' (never mind whatever that's actually named) line. Neroli Outrenoir delivers an initial brisk bergamot show that lasts all of seconds. The plot moves over to an accord of neroli with smoky black tea, with some ambrette seeds that impart some dark musky nuances. Fairly linear, there is a slow transformation as the orange blossom subsides a little gradually, and the accord of ambrette seeds and myrrh becomes prominent, though the myrrh plays a supporting cast to the neroli-tea-ambrette seed triad. Neroli Outrenoir has close but perceptible projection, and lasts reasonably well on skin.

While Neroli Outrenoir brings something a little new to the canon of neroli fragrances, it is seriously compromised by what appears as the handling of the composition. The elements are too densely blended, lacking enough separation. The resulting neroli-tea-ambrette accord is dull, murky, and doesn’t flatter on the Guy Robert test. As neroli compositions, Seville A L'Aube or Fleurs d'Oranger are far more convincing, whereas one would suggest Philtre Ceylan as an example of a smoky black tea done right.

2.5/5 (neutral)

no-fi

Neroli Outrenoir is quite the mercurial shapeshifter. It isn't truly a citrus floral, a tea-heavy aromatic, or an incense oriental - it's all three.

It starts with a sweet, bright blast of citrus and florals, with a touch of herbal petitgrain. The eponymous neroli is there, but it never shouts above the orange blossom and citrus fruits that surround it.

A short while into the opening, a robust tea note emerges. It's definitely a black tea - perhaps the inspiration for the outrenoir name - but it defies easy categorisation. There's a touch of smoke that hints at toasted Lapsang Souchong, while the bergamot suggests Earl Grey, without explicitly smelling like either. The tea note comes to dominate in the heart, putting paid to any expectations that Neroli Outrenoir is a straight neroli scent.

Then Neroli Outrenoir does another U-turn into unexpected territory. As it dries down, a transparent resinous incense comes to the fore. It's sweet and slightly smokey, with tea-like facets. A white musk - or should that be an ashy grey musk? - also becomes more prominent.

There's still one more plot twist waiting, however. Just as you're expecting the credits to roll, the neroli comes surging back into the fore, in full concert with the resinous base. It's as marvelous as it is unexpected.

Overall, Neroli Outrenoir can come across as somewhat confused. From sweet and light to resinous and slightly brooding, it flits from one impression to the next. Fortunately, it remains easy to wear, if not easy to define. I appreciate Neroli Outrenoir's uniqueness - I only wish it was as easy to love as it is hard to pin down.

I love this collection so much I ordered this blind and I'm so glad to report that I am not disappointed. It's really good! It's been compared to Teazzurra, and while I've never tried it, Teazzurra has been compared to Tokyo, which I own, so I can say they share that exact same tea note. The dry downs of Toyko and Outrenoir are similar only on that tea note. Outrenoir is much sweeter and thick with vanilla and myrrhe. Side by side, it makes Tokyo feel bitter and tart.

I'm usually not crazy about citrus frags, which I usually find too fleeting, too squeaky clean, a bit boring, and typically only appropriate for Summer. Outrenoir is a bit heavier, thicker, creamy, and lasts 12 hours strong. It's almost gourmand, like a frozen orange dreamsicle cocktail blended with thick vanilla Licor 43, Grand Marnier, homemade vanilla ice cream, and fresh squeezed juice.

This fragrance is somewhat of a dichotomy as the elements speak of Summer with the citrus and orange blossom but also of Winter with the myrrh and smokey incense, but it works really well. I can see myself wearing this year round. Bravo! ❤

Hermès and Guerlain have both introduced new neroli perfumes into their line-ups this year. Hermès's golden neroli Cologne (Eau de Néroli Doré) suited a summer launch and brought to mind sun, tanned skin and escapism. Guerlain skipped the gold and went for the black.

"Outrenoir" (translated as ultra-black or beyond black) is a painting method practiced by Pierre Soulages. Textured, dense black paint absorbs and refracts the light that strikes it. Black is the mirror that reveals color, even if it doesn't directly reflect it. Name aside, there's not a hint of darkness to Néroli Outrenoir. The top has a sweet, resinous touch that's a hair's breadth away from gourmand. Sweet but not saccharine. A lightly vanilla-smoked tea note matches the neroli and makes a neo-Earl Grey tea accord that is more floral and higher pitched than the traditional bergamot-tea pairing.

The vanillic-smoke gives the tea presence, but it runs quiet for a foreground note. It gives the fragrance an aromatic lift and bridges the orange flower to the woodiness of petitgrain. It's a prominent component of the perfume's central accord, but noir it ain't. Apparently beyond black lies pastel.

Neroli Outrenoir creates a luminous if soft-focus hesperidic image. Neroli, bergamot and petitgrain are the flower, fruit and leaves that create the portrait of citrus tree. It's not a particularly new trick. This citric mix combined with the soft musk is not far from the recipe for Eau de Cologne, and Guerlain's own Eau Impériale has a prominent neroli note. It's not a Cologne per se, but if I were told that Neroli Outrenoir was an Aqua Allegoria, I wouldn't hesitate to believe it. It's a version of the two-note accord that the Aqua Allegorias have mastered. Simple, pretty and non-threatening in equal measure.

The resinous touch at the beginning of Wasser's Néroli Outrenoir could have been used to create a bit of shadow. Instead it segues seamlessly into the recognizable framework of a white musk base (Guerlain list ambrette seed.) The gentle haze does suit the perfume's soft touch, but it reads like a slo-mo landing on soft pillows. It reassures you that any challenge or threat (or exuberance or inspiration) that might have been found in the topnotes has been redacted and you can rest your head easy. It reads as a concession.

This dénouement-style of drydown has become Guerlain's feminine marker. Witness the line of perfumes from l'Instant and Idylle through the Shalimar Parfums Initiales and the Robes Noires. It is the feminine counterpart to the masculine 'boisée sec' style found in the Guerlain Hommes and Idéals. Guerlain's uniform, conservative rectangular bottle for the boys and dated, fussy bee bottles for the girls are a regrettable acquiescence to a reactionary, proscriptive understanding of gender. But they are at least a candid outward indication of what's been going in inside the bottles for a while.

After testing 2 or 3 samples of this Neroli I finally bought the bottle. Indeed, it needs more than a few spritzes to develop it's full potential. The reviewer "originaldeftom" is right about the mechanism & design of the bottle: hope that someday they'll go back to the former spraying system of this niche line.

The neroli takes 1 to 3 hours to take the lead of this complex scent, as the fruity top and the tea notes are dominant for quite a while after application. But then it lasts and lasts, for>10 hours or more depending on temperature. So this parfume actually is in fact "neroli beyond black" (tea) which is the translation from French.

A very nice winter parfume, when you can pick up the lemons from your trees and long for the spring to come ! Thanks Guerlain.

These days for most of us fragheads, the first thing we do when we hear another Neroli fragrance is yawn but trust me, this is really worth checking out. Beautiful composition.

It has a very bright citrus opening layered with the petitgrain note, giving it a very green feeling. Some of the citrus notes from the opening stick around and mingle with the heart notes as well. It is really lovely. The "Noir" part of the fragrance comes in the next stage when the Black tea and neroli mingle with the orange blossoms giving a slight floral edge. This conceptualisation is brilliant and gives this fragrance depth and substance where most neroli frags end up being airy-fairy wisp like things. The notes from the base like Myrrh and oakmoss start blending in but this Neroli-tea heart stays potent for a long time. I dont get any vanilla but there is a hint of sweetness in the end of the dry down which is probably the benzoin n ambrette. In summation, this is a dark Neroli fragrance and if that sounds intriguing, trust me Neroli Outrenoir does not disappoint.

Projection and longevity are good like most of the Guerlain Niche line. 8-10 hours range and this is again testing from a sample with small spritzes. If you have any sort of interest in Citrus/ Neroli or even Tea notes, please do not miss out on this little gem.

Calvini

This is more about the tea and citrus-green than neroli.. smells really good, but quite disappointed

I was gifted a sample today. It is a true beauty! I don't care about citrus and often I can't wear them - they turn male'ish on my skin. This one doesn't!! Perfect for warm weather, perfect when you want to be descrete, perfect when you want to tease. Its one of very few scents including citrus that I can say wow about. But yet its not me, not my taste of how I want to smell. But I'm happy to tried it.

Tried this on skin today and all I can say is "CAPTIVATING"!
Thierry Wasser is a genius and his collaboration with Delphine Jelk proves to go from strength to strength. The last and 3rd version of "L'Homme Ideal" was the equivalent of putting the Cullinan Diamond into the crown of its trilogy.
Now, with new combined efforts of 2 noses and 4 nostrils, both dropped a massive comeback of the slightly forgotten >>L'Art et Matiere<< Collection that has not seen a new release for a coupe of years and then THIS fantastic creation lands like a UFO from outer space.
It is indeed "outlandishly beautiful" and I would compare it with a Garden Eden, a secret place of mystery and new discovery. It smells of a brand new plant discovery because the well known neroli is so unusually juxtaposed against the petit grain, oakmoss, ambrette and tea....but it is really that earthy, smokey note that makes it so compellingly other-wordly.

I am being somewhat reminded of "Bamboo Harmony" by Kilian, but I much more prefer this, both in execution, creativity, blending and longevity.

Imagine having a cup of some fancy and posh black, smoked Darjeeling or Oloong tea, bang in the middle of a dense Java rainforest as you come out onto a clearing. As the sun is cutting through the dense banana and palm fronds, you see a pond with the most unusual and delicate flowers, releasing this unusual frangrance you have never smelled before.

This stuff smells green, exotic, wet, floral (unfamiliar), and progressively different.

Verdict: Scent 10/10 for a modern citrus/ green/ aromatic masterpiece that has never been done before this way and actually lasts very well.

Packaging is very unfortunate and awkward, as it is a tall slimline glass bottle with this old-fashioned balloon hand pump device that needs to be unlocked first atop the top cap. It is not a clever design, neither very practical. Perhaps you should just create something easy to use, with an old-wordly look that can be refilled and thus be kinder to the environment? Guerlain? Hellloooooo!

Off the top I get a lot of petitgrain with a surge of bergamot which is followed by a smoky mix of tea and myrhh. After a while when the scent takes to the air it suddenly opens up and I can smell the neroli within the mix. At this stage it does smell very nice and enchanting, imagine smoky tea notes mixing in with neroli and earthy myrhh. I can see what Thierry Wasser was trying to do offsetting the neroli note with smoky tea and myrhh notes.

Also I think he has captured the tea note quite beautifully, you can smell the bitter and smoky aspect. And when this mixes in with the neroli it's quite lovely. I think how much you love the tea accord is going to determine how much you like this one. For me I love it.

For me on my skin the tea and smoky earthy notes are more dominant than the neroli. And that's why to my nose I perceive it more on the masculine side, definitely unisex though. Talking about the neroli note I find it more subdued and that it takes a backseat to the smoky earthy tea accord. Though when it makes itself known it is quite lovely.

Though the neroli comes through more when the smoky earthy tea notes calm down a bit. But this is not a full bodied dominant neroli scent, it's more subtlety weaved providing a contrast to the other notes. Very nice fragrance.

Neroli Outrenoir translates to neroli from beyond black. The squeaky clean and vibrant nature of the neroli note has been juxtaposed with a dark, earthy tea and myrrh combination that creates a somewhat mystical incense that is undeniably intoxicating. The scent lingers close to the skin on myself but it's one of those fragrances that is enjoyed best personally or when others are close to you. Very cosy and will be perfect for the upcoming Winter months.

I just can't wait to try this!
