Dahlia Noir by Givenchy is a Chypre Floral fragrance for women. Dahlia Noir was launched in 2011. The nose behind this fragrance is François Demachy. Top notes are Pink Pepper, Mimosa, Mandarin Orange and Bergamot; middle notes are Iris, Rose and Patchouli; base notes are Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Vanille and Oakmoss.

Dahlia Noir is the new perfume from the fashion house of Givenchy that embodies elegance and style of the couture brand under the leadership of its creative director Riccardo Tisci. The perfume is presented as a "Fatal Flower" of unreal and imaginative composition for mysterious and fascinating women.

Dahlia Noir or the “Black Dalia" is a powdery fragrance of dusty chypre - floral structure. Top notes of mandarin, pink pepper and mimosa lead to the extensive and intensive core of rose, iris and patchouli. The base wraps up the composition in a mysterious veil, made with notes of sandalwood, vanilla and tonka bean.

The bottle’s design is classic, simple and elegant, perfectly suited for the concept of the perfume. The advertising campaign features model Mariacarla Boscono as the sensual and dangerous "Black Dalia". Dahlia Noir is available as Eau de Parfum in bottles of 30, 50 and 75 ml, with an accompanying collection for body care.

my grandma has it. i think it suits her but she has better perfumes.

pawgod

I miss her... She was my first love. A soft hand on my lower back I'll never feel again.

Gemsense

Very very light fragrance. I in cold weather it smells like vegetation. Weird cuz the notes don’t suggest that at all. Definitely has all the notes I love but I can barely smell anything in warm weather and I told you what I get in cold weather. This fragrance was a fail and I can see why. It just doesn’t do it’s job most of the time.

You beautiful girl you were so young when they took you away…I’m not sure if they where wanting to treat this fragrance like the black dahlia murder but this was a gorgeous unique scent was only out for a few years then they brought out dahlia divin and discontinued noir I can’t stand Alecia Keys because of it I’m not sure if it was the name of dahlia noir but I always though of the 1940s wearing this beauty very boudoir style powdery sweet and floral extremely feminine classy sexy think red lips red nails heels pencil skirt set hair givenchy please bring her back 💗

I had to upgrade this to a Love. I forgot I had it, and even though I wore my Thanksgiving L'Artisan Noir Exquis today, I saw this and gave a spritz. The iris seems stands out more than I recall. I also own the EDT, which I wasn't too fond of but will try again, but it lacks the soft fluffiness present in this one along with the beautiful iris if I recall.
Moving this up to the front of my current rotation, and will also retry Dahlia Divin. Dahlia Noir isn't earth shattering, but I am happy I rediscovered it because it is quite lovely. I think I also have a purse spray which will be helpful as the longevity is mediocre at best.

Plumaria

This is not intended to be a fragrance review, but, for everyone desperately missing this beautiful scent, I think that Dove Shea Butter with Warm Vanilla body wash smells very very similar. The scents also lasts quite long after the shower.

Oooh ! This perfume 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I recommend it if you like to smell sexy bossy classy woman walking in wall-street area with high heels like “Merly Streep” in “The Devil wears Prada”
Out of the traind of now, very unique 💯

I scored a partial of this recently, and I am pretty sure that the top notes have gone off because I smell something very synthetic at first spray, but the dry down is so, so gorgeous! I smell the sandalwood and the oak moss along with the Tonka Bean, and on my skin it also turns very musky, even if there's no musk. This is a powdery scent, yes, but this is not baby powder by any means. This is sophisticated, elevated and I love how androgynous its personality is. I kept thinking the dry down reminded me of a perfume that I adore, and I finally found it - Burberry Brit for Men. These two actually share quite a few notes (mandarin, rose, patchouli, Tonka Bean) and while the spice is more prominent in Burberry Brit, here it is softer and warmer. I know my bottle will not last very long, which means that I will probably be using this as a bedtime scent for the foreseeable future!

Marina94

I smelled this perfume for the first time years ago when I was 18-year-old girl in the most dramatic period of my life which every time I remembered my eyes filled with tears. It was a cool autumn in Stuttgart, Germany.
After so many years the only thing I want to remember from that period of my life is this wonderful perfume
DAHLIA NOIR .
After 10 years will restore it again but this time to enjoy it with happiness. Although I have used hundreds of perfumes very expansive but I can say it was the best.

Brrk16

So I had a small bottle I had bought years ago sitting way back in my wardrobe. I recently opened it and started using it. I find it incredible. So classy with great projection and lasting power. Great spring/autumn scent.

Why was it discontinued? Why? Why?

Marie76

Another Demachy's masterpiece ( I think Dior homme is his number 1 and this is his 2nd) and hands down my most complimented fragrance. It wasn't love at first sight, I bought it when it first came out in 2012, and it took me quite a while to plunge in and buy it, I'd enter the store, spray, smell consider. So glad I did, it really grew on me so much.
It's powdery but it opens with something slightly metallic and reminiscent of tart cherry. The rose is not as sparkly as in other Givenchy perfumes, the metal is gone very quickly and this becomes close to the skin, powdery, creamy, the mimosa is sweet rather than green, and very present along with the rose and the iris. It's utterly delicious. It's innocent, yet a very sensual scent. It layers very well with molecule 01, molecule 02 and another 13 from Le Labo. I mean so well people that never say things like that will rave at how you smell. I also has very good staying power and projects well, for such a powdery soft drydown.
I've been in mourning ever since they stopped making it,I suspect because the name "Dhalia noir" connotations could land them in hot water as connotations about glorifying violence against women could potentially be claimed. So I'm spending silly money on sample bottles that still get sold on e bay. If somebody here has a bottle and takes pity on me, please DM me!

I got a mini of this to give it a try. I am always interested in perfumes that are discontinued. Usually, you just want to ring the necks of the powers that be at the companies who make these decisions because most often what they discontinue is usually stunning. And the discontinuing of stunning perfumes goes on w/ Dahlia Noir. This is old school, something my grandmother's, would have worn but it has a bit of a postmodern twist and lift w/ the pink pepper and a touch of sweetness from the mandarin orange. This is a lovely chypre fragrance where flowers do battle to steal the show, but it ends up in a stale mate. Rose is there, dark and w/ thorns, mimosa is there in her sunny dusty yellow and iris is there w/ her cold shades of violet. I would love a bigger bottle of this, I own Dahlia Nectar, Initale, and Nude and while I like all of them this one leaves those in the dust.

chimidoro

I genuinely feel that this may have been the last really bloody good scent Givenchy ever produced.

My obsession and fascination with this scent never wanes or wavers.

For me it IS noir. Anytime wear but really shines of an evening.

dsmercoco

The EDT and EDP are completely different scents. I'm referring to the EDP in the black cap. I found that difference out the hard way. I fell in love with a sample and mistakenly bought the edt. The edp is the one I fell in love with.
The EDP is a soft pink rose surrounded by beautiful powdery iris and earthy patchouli. To my nose it stays linear and has good longevity. I wear it for casual day wear. Office safe. I smell clean and very classy.

lysithea

I had this perfume many many years ago. Never checked the notes before and now i am surprised i always got a sour cherry note from this but there is no cherry note listed.

stellamarinaa

I bought the deodorant as I wasn't able to find the edp. All I can smell is a faint rose, disappearing after 5 minutes.
Has the edp a definely more detectable Iris and vanilla? How is the edp staying power?

Violinhead8120

I just have a mini splash bottle of this, so maybe this is an old bottle that has gone off. However, this fragrance dries down extremely screechy and loud on me, but the note composition itself lends to a very bland uninteresting powdery aroma, but then disappears. After 3 hours. Even if it weren't screechy, the scent itself would be a very ho-hum powdery light fragrance. A little bit more refined than baby powder, but not enough for me to want to wear. Powder and a little bit of citrus are the only things I smell.

Iris and lilac are two of my favorite notes in perfumery, so I love a good purple floral. FM En Passant, Pacifica French Lilac, Chloe Love, Chloe, etc. So I love powdery fragrances, linear or not, but this isn't it. Also, It barely lasts 3 hours on me. Someone else's skin chemistry may pull more notes out of this. But I see nothing 'noir' about this scent.

Abry_81

Sometimes we wonder why they discontinued a fragrance when it enjoys popular taste (sometimes it only has followers in the world of collectors) and other times, as is the case of Dahlia Noir, it is evident because they pass without pain or glory.
The fragrance created by Francois Demachy for Givenchy is not bad, especially for those who like subtle and well-achieved fragrances, this was not a best seller because it is not a striking fragrance like those that become fashionable.
Dahlia Noir is a sober, classy, soft and highly powdery fragrance where a very delicate rose predominates, almost overshadowed by an ethereal iris, sublime and infinitely powdered that is present from its opening until the last breath of life of this perfume, at the opening of this perfumes apart from this floral combo we can perceive a certain fruity and very slightly sweetened accord of mandarin and patchouli that disappears as time goes by and from this rose powder certain delicate notes of sandalwood, oak moss, mimosa, pink pepper and tonka begin to emerge.
This was a Chypre-floral that did not run with luck in the market, because it was modest and conservative, but it is a sublime fragrance and very well achieved by the master Demachy, and later he gave us that Dahlia Divin, which although it was not very well known. it does classify as a populist fragrance but that's a story for another day.

vampireinlovewithscents

Givenchy never disappoints.
This is definitely what I'd want my woman to wear on a cool windy stormy evening in bed.
Such a beautiful creation. It starts off very citrusy & clean which then quickly fades away & the beautiful rose and iris come sneaking in. I'm definitely getting a lot of the sandalwood as well which is totally my favorite perfume note ever. Not getting much of the vanilla but the sandalwood adds a lot of the sweetness to this fragrance.
This is a very powdery gorgeous scent. The powdery notes are I'm guessing from the mimosa & iris. Love the rose note as well. This has to be the most beautiful rose scent in my opinion. It's like walking in a field of rose and sandalwood & I don't ever want it to end.
10/10!

At first I was like "where is that baby powder people mention in relation to this perfume?" I couldn't smell baby powder, nor any other powdery note at all (which made me disappointed because I was looking forward to getting this rare fragrance and I enjoy powdery scents a lot). What I could smell were loads of patchouli, and somehow it even reminded me of the Apparition perfume by Ungaro, which was really, really odd (that fragrance, also discontinued, has rather different components, except for the rose and patchouli). However, the other day I tried the perfume again, as well as today.... and I'm finally getting that powdery feeling and that it actually is present there. Not in a baby powderish form, but more like a different kind of powder I haven't experienced before. There is that iris, rose and vanille note, so it's understandably so. However, I think it's the prominent patchouli note that makes it "a different kind of powder", if you know what I mean. Overall, I find this fragrance interesting. It has been growing on me, though the patchouli note is what prevents me in adding this to my favorite powdery scents. I like patchouli, but my nose doesn't seem to be capable of connecting it with powdery scents. :P

EDIT: Okay, so, this is way more beautiful than I originally perceived it to be. It really grew on me! I feel like I'm finally getting the iris note properly, as I should be. One just needs to give some perfumes enough time to "express" themselves and this is the case. :)

Dabarefootbombshell

I am not a fan of powdery scents as a rule. There are some exceptions but this scent isn't one. It's not bad if you like powdery it's also not good if you like powdery either. There are many scents that smell so similar to Dahlia Noir but are longer lasting and at a much lower price point. Honestly, rub yourself in lavender baby oil and you would pretty close to this scent. I was gifted this scent so I used up my bottle but I won't be looking to get a replacement. I believe you can go powdery without smelling juvenile. An example of an exquisite adult powdery rose scent to me, if you want to go luxury is Tient De Neige by Lorenzo Villoresi. It's a touch sweeter than Dahlia Noir but the silage is magnificent and men go Gaga over it since it's incredibly feminine. They will want to tickle you but not under the chin (wink wink.)

lagavulinx

I sprayed it on to sell. To see if I even wanted to sell it since its discontinued. & im about to fall asleep cause I feel so comforted its such a light scent that i can barely even smell it. but what i do smell is roses w a bit of soft powder sprinked w Tonka now. Normally it smells more ladylike & I dont normally like powdery rose smells. But this one reminds me of the word "pretty" it smells even better on my sleeve. Clean roses smelled right off the stem. its barely there so i ended up selling it. which is fine it didnt make that big of an impression.

mahi-rose

A floral powdery perfume! A strong decent perfume for special women. Literally strong powdery one and good floral and citrus... but it is a special perfume that maybe every one dose not like it. because it has a little heavy fragrance .. In fact it is some mysterious perfume that needs a special seductive woman to wear it. So feminine chic fragrance

MsLittlejohn

After testing so many, I finally found a Givenchy for ME. ☺️🤗❤️ It's just beautiful.

Thank you all for your reviews!!! 🙏🏽

Dahlia Noir is pretty and romantic with a glamorous vintage vibe. Beautiful powdery rose perfume with a touch of spice: simple and very feminine. I consider it a classic.
Decent longevity and moderate sillage. I like for day wear during fall.

thecoffeeslayer

This is a sweet floral, predominantly a powdery floral. There is enough patchouli in there to be noticeable, but it isn't overwhelming. I think, it might be considered fussy for being so powdery floral, but the sweetness does lighten it up some. Best worn at night. I really do wish I had bought this when I had the chance.

Edit to update: bottle acquired! Qapla‘
Clarification: powdery iris/rose. Not baby powder

Ameliadrevein

This will be forever be my top 5 perfume of all time.before I do my skincare and make up I need 1 spray to soothe my mind and relaxing me and the same time. Sillage and longevity is moderate 💕

I loved wearing this fragrance in winter times. I'm so sad it's been discontinued. If anyone knows something really similar but that has not been discontinued please let us know.
Very sophisticated fragrance. It is baby powder-ish but somehow made sexy with that hint of dark patchouli. It was a suprise among other modern fragrances. Has a nostalgic vibe. Cold, dense, innocent but with a dark side, mysterious. Leaves a beautiul trail on clothes.. oh i miss this fragrance.

Florence27

Roses. Powder. Nostalgia.
A woman dressed in black walking in a big city at night. She is mysterious and elegant, she has a dark side she rarely shows to anyone.
There's a retro vibe in this fragrance, reminding me of films noir. It creates a feeling of longing for a long lost era. Difficult times, but there was beauty and romance.
Dahlia noir engulfs you in a romantic, yet somewhat dark aura.
I love the opening of the fragrance which is darker and sexier, the drydown is a bit too sweet and powdery for me.

bintTapputi

Another mainstream floral. This one has some powdery notes which are pleasant. Overall forgettable, appropriate for young girls, very generic. 5/10

where is the love button? amazing House Givenchy, falling in love with their fragrances a lot lately. this is such a pretty perfume, i think mild sweet florals. the edp is long lasting and better than edt. its not typical sweet fragrance, its great dating perfume in my humble opinion for ladies. highly recommend this. i detect bit of iris in this, perhaps that's the reason i find it addictive.

I accidentally bought a full bottle (1.6 oz) of the EDT. I meant to purchase the EDP. If anyone is interested in swapping, please PM me. Thanks!

EDIT - won a bottle of EDP in Ebay. Still willing to swap for something else if interested. Stay well, all!

Contemporary Lady (Francois Demachy, 2011)

Bottle Design: Fabien Baron

Scentrack: Moloko – I Want You

In my opinion Givenchy is one of the greatest fashion houses ever. However, many of their fragrance releases in this millennium were unworthy of this historical name. Dahlia Noir, created by Francois Demachy of Dior, gives a hope that Givenchy got it right. Personally, I really like Dahlia Noir EdP. It is elegant and modern, yet reserved with hidden old time grandiosity.
Dahlia Noir opens with an unusually fresh burst of mandarin, accompanied by short-lived berrylike accord similar to Guerlain’s La Petite Robe Noire. Among this fruit interplay, one could sense some perfectly tweaked peppery and powdery nuances. After initial fruity playfulness, Dahlia gradually morphs into a flowery heart of iris and rose. The iris note is rather fresh, juxtaposed to damascone rose of both floral and jam-like aspects. This jam-like aspect is a perfect introduction to sweeter and almost gourmand base. Like every other part of the composition, the base is again very skillfully tweaked. Tonka bean, vanilla and woody notes are very carefully arranged to give a contemporary feminine touch to the composition. Dahlia Noir is a perfect example of hybrid contemporary-classic chimeras. All the contemporary aspects are skillfully paired to classical thoughtfulness by the perfumer. Very nice for professional environment, dinner or theater due to its duality.
Simply, a beautiful and well balanced creation that successfully avoids all the traps of modern vulgarity. Almost gourmand, yet classical. Almost unisex, yet so distinctively feminine. A beautiful work.

Rating: 8/10

Hmmmm... what we have here is a very pretty, powdery floral, plain and simple. Sometimes, that's enough. It smells like the rose is in competition with the iris. The rose shouts a little while the iris just lies still, leaving a beautiful, powdery bed. It smells much better as it projects away from the skin. I find when I sniff my wrist, there is something bitter that distracts from the whole. If it wasn't for the note pyramid I would swear there was some berry in this. It may just be the pepper and patchouli doing bad things on my skin. I have a small travel spray which will be enough. Overall a very pleasant scent that I really enjoy.

EDIT 4/23/2020 - I am upgrading this to a love. The trick is to avoid over spraying. The subtleties of the notes are easily overwhelmed if you spray too much. Right now, I feel so soft and comforted. The rose and iris are so beautiful.

Rose du soir

Wow, this is sexy. Very floral and woody. Rose, mimosa, patchouli and sandalwood shine on my skin on a background made of light vanilla. Not so much powder other than the mimosa's, and I don't get the baby powder other reviewers describe. It's sweet in a mature way, dark and intoxicating, and it projects loudly. Rose, patchouli and sandalwood are pretty similar to the new Dior Joy Intense, but mimosa makes Dahlia Noir sweeter and more sophisticated, with a light 90s twist that evokes a faint echo of Amarige. Great date night scent. Givenchy knows how to make gorgeous florals for sure. Sad this is now discontinued and hard to find.

octobertragedy

I agree, this fragrance is such a gem. I got mine on sale, a couple of years ago and I find it so uniquely soft, powdery and warm. I sometimes associate colors to fragrances, and to me this smells like a hundred shades of violet. From baby powder to intense indigo iris.
This is for all iris, creamy, powdery, soapy notes lovers. Otherwise you will hate it, because it is extremely dusty and intense. I love wearing it during icy cold winter days. It makes me feel cozy, safe and positive.

betterlina

Please, make attention to use this in autumn rainy days in a high humidity regions of north, and you could enjoy this little gem really a lot. Dahlia Noir is a Flower Ode devoted to the Northern Rain, Storm and Clouds. It develops excellently by adding a joyful notes to your autumn mood and helps one looking at the rain with smile and serenity.

hdpauley55

Smells like cheap men's cologne. I really, REALLY dislike this fragrance. The first spray was one of the few scents that had me physically recoiling from my arm where I had sprayed it! Slightly better on the dry down, but not by much. Very strong note of patchouli. So relieved I only ordered a sample of this one. If I had blind bought a full bottle I would be really annoyed. Definitely one you need to try before you buy!

mschnabel666

I grabbed this as one of those unbeatable 95%-full Fragrancenet listings on ebay. It was blind.

I don't have a lot to day about this. It's kinda plastic and odd... there is something in the powdery-floral woods that makes it "cheap" and plastic. I'm not sure I like. Also- average/weak potency/sillage.

However... the bottle leaked/pressed a bit in shipping (no cap) and I wiped off the bottle/box with a tissue- and now about five days later-- that tissue smells amazing! Very peppery patchouli rose! Very nice! Not at all like the scent's lifetime on person/skin/clothing.

I won't write this off yet!

Wow- 2 weeks later that tissue still smells wonderful! Peppery, woody powder! This is going to be a fabric only scent I think!

masako_30

I am (seriously) convinced that I find myself faced with a watered down version of the mythical Magie Noire - Lancôme.
These 2 fragrances share some notes but in short, only some ... so probably I'm off track and I am ready for your due reproaches.
I would accept without hesitation the bottle with what's left of Dahlia Noir if my friend really got rid of it, as she says.

mozielila

To me, this smells like baby power/baby wipes. I think maybe I might have had a bad bottle because I remember really liking it when I tested it in the shop and never liking the bottle I opened at home.

Tvv2005

I love this scent, secret, sexy, powdery smell. The bottle is beautiful. Love it!!!! It lingers on skin for a long time and dry down beautifully.

mimi2018

This is an average perfume I expected better to be honest. It basically smells like baby powder and has a barely average longevity. It is suitable for any age or occasion as it has a very everyday and feminine smell. It is not a bad perfume but it is not a great one either. I received this as a birthday present but will not buy it when it finishes.

Rana elhommosy r

Endless love ♥️♥️♥️

Ahh yes.

In another reviewer's fine words this fragrance is indeed a discontinued gem amongst others. My first experience with Dahlia Noir was back in 2012 when my mom's second husband bought the gift set for me and gave it to me on Christmas. My whole family was aware of my penchant for perfumes that had "noir" in it. Versace Crystal Noir, Tom Ford Black Orchid and other similar fragrances were totally my jam even in high school. I had the 75 ml bottle for a couple years but got distracted with other fragrances and eventually shoved it off onto my mom who gladly gave it a home in her large fragrance wardrobe. The woman was an avid perfume collector for many years and acquired something like 40+ fragrances from various discount websites. She has everything ranging from easy breezy cheapies by Avon to vintage French designer houses to eclectic creations by Vivienne Westwood.

I am now 24 yrs old and recently found myself going to her bedroom and stealing Dahlia Noir to take on a night out or for an evening date. The top notes seemed to have gone a bit "off" which then inspired me to become interested in acquiring a new bottle. That was when I discovered it had been discontinued so I began searching the dark web for the best deal. Frankly, I did not want to pay a high price for a perfume that had been discontinued only a few years ago and had not been promoted to vintage status yet. Finally won it in a bid on Ebay and paid around $50 for it. It came packaged beautifully and from the first spritz I could tell it was 100% authentic. The pale pink art deco box and the peachy juice were exactly as I remembered from my 2012 bottle that came from Nordstrom.

Despite some of the dismissive reviews there is something slightly noir and even deadly about this one in a subtle way. I find that it strikes that balance between being neither juvenile nor too mature, alluring yet not suggestive, interesting but not in a weird niche way, feminine but not overly girly etc. There is also something that calls to 1940s Hollywood in this that I find very special and unique. Maybe its the dusky powdery aroma that reminds me of old-school makeup mixed in with the feminine rose and some pink peppercorn to give it a dash of zest. I'm honestly so glad to have gotten my hands on another bottle before it disappears into the canals of one hit wonders from designer houses. This is a beautiful fragrance but I suspect it wasn't flying off the shelves like the popular sugary sweet cotton candy creations of today hence why it got discontinued.

Au revoir!

Perfume Peg

I really wanted to love this perfume and hoped as the name suggested it would be a floral with a darker undercurrent. Unfortunately I just get a strong almost baby powder smell and no real individual notes or pleasant mellow base notes. Bearing in mind the many positive reviews it could just be my body chemistry. That is what I love about fragrance someone else can be wearing your perfume and it will smell completely different on them. For those who love design the bottle is a beautiful addition to any dresser and I’m glad I got the opportunity to try it. Just to add it was a present from my husband who bought it in duty free and he was attracted by the name. Again I love the fact there are so many different ways a perfume will attract you to try it.

gtabasso

In the top this was a vanilla floral that reminded me faintly of Guerlain. As it dries down the green, tart rose comes into play. No sweet jamminess here. The vanilla gets subdued into a tonka supporting role. There's a tiny bit of sandalwood and musk to deepen the floral. Mainly you are left with rose and vanilla with a little sharp bite. In the final drydown you are left with a typical vanilla.

aconeyisland

Rose powder, rounded and soft, not the suffocating cloud kind, just a tender and delicate fragrance for when you want something warm to surround you. Love the stylish minimalistic design of the 30ml bottle. Pity it’s discontinued.

Midnight Lady

Quite a pleasant one. Definitely powdery, detectable mimosa. Sits close to skin.

Iris, delicate rose and sandalwood in the drydown.

Not my kind of thing, but certainly appealing for powdery fragheads.

Augustarina

Gorgeous! This is such a masterful blend that I can't really distinguish what I'm smelling and when. All I know is, I love it from beginning to end. Sweet nectar that makes me want to take all my clothes off and roll around in it.

Other similar scents have had something very annoying in them, to me. I always wondered if it was Iris but clearly not, as people have pointed out it's the most dominant part of the composition.

rednose

Asked a lady at the grocery store what she was wearing and this was it, with clothes of course. She lit up and her face mellowed out. after purchasing this I've come to know that when I caught a whiff of her the fragrance had probably had a chance to mellow out as well. This is that. A pepper filled with powder. The first spray is cloying and harsh but the dry down is a faded femme fatale. I used to spray it on my clothes the night before work to avoid the initial funk. The next morning I wear my clothes and the scent emerges with movement and I'd pick up the office phone trying not to sound dramatic or say hello like retired Maria Callas.

knotslandinggirl

An ethereal, melancholic fragrance...yet very sultry and bewitching!

Iris, rose, patchouli and pink pepper,a stunning combination, yet it is the iris that is the winner in this,oh how a chorus of angels melts my heart with the sweet, powdery perfection.

This is a shining fragrance, and yes it is noir to me,it speaks of a melancholy feeling,a yearning to yesteryear, this has a feel of 1940's vintage feel to me.

The rose is not prominent,it is just there in the background,it is the iris and patchouli that come to the forefront giving it that powdery yet dark sweetness and earthy essence feel.
This has moderate longevity and around 2 to 3 feet projection, people do comment, and I find both men and women compliment me on this.

Another discontinued gem, which I stocked up on thankfully,if you can check it out I would not blind buy, this is an acquired taste, and my taste acquired this very much!!

Well done Francois Demachy...

After the short and quite original opening combining pink pepper and mimosa, I get the 2 floral notes, underlined by patchouli and vanilla.
The votes here put iris in the first place, but to my nose the rose is dominant. The battle between the two lasts for 5 or 6 hours, but the powdery scent of iris I prefer is clearly a bit weak compared to the power of the rose, giving this frag too much of a classical twist.
Though this website may not be the right place to say this, I mixed DN EDP at 50/50 proportions with Guerlain's l'Heure Bleue EDP, and got a superb frag with a fancy dominant floral iris for 6 hours. The following skin scent is that of LHB which is not surprising as the longevity of LHB is better than that of DN. Anyway, I'm using now the 50-50 mix rather than DN alone and I'm very happy with this.
Someone asked if this frag is discontinued by Givenchy and I got the answer : yes it is (Aug. 2017), so I could buy 2 more bottles at 55% off to make a big flacon of my mix with LHB...

Dahlia flankers weren't really ever on my testing list but Noir version came to my attention because the reviews here are listing this fragrance as being very powdery. Well, i'll be among the few here posting a review on the positive side. I like it, soon turning into love it. It's like a variation of something you've already smelled before in the begining but wait for the drydown. On my skin and clothes this powder is bitter! Powdery bitter sheer beauty! Gorgeous bitter - almost green like oakmoss, galbanum and iris all together. I dare to say a sacrilege here-that this is a very abstract, post modern, structured interpretation of a good old oak moss chypre without anything from a standard formula of a chypre, from that perspective, it's a fake chypre. Think of a cosmopolitan city with old history where its architecture is a mix style of colonial to Art Deco and industrial buildings, brick, wood , concrete and glass all together. And the powder is not at all soapy. For me Ivoire by Balmain is soapy, DN is just green bitter powder. I am a mother of 3 and never used baby powder that much but I know the smell of it. Dahlia noir is not baby powder. It has indeed something from Love Chloe, but DN one is a much more sophisticated but green like powder and turns into something more thick and almost creamy. The green feeling is given by the pepper and the orange, i guess, reminding me of the bitterness gorgeousness a la eau de merveille- I guess this is the pine-y, Christmas tree vibe other reviewers mention. And this is the way DN stands out from being a boring meh.

A personal favorite it is. Dahlia Noir presents an interesting combination of Iris and pepper, and is highly versatile throughout the day. In the morning she is mostly powdery and floral, bright with a hint of spice, yet before sunrise she gradually descends to a moderately woody scent with tender sweetness enhanced by vanilla. Highly captivating

Imagery: she wears the asymmetric little black dress with details in lace, and a bronze coloured moth neckless for a Gothic edge. Delicate yet naughty, enchanted indeed.

On the other hand, I think the problem is it's not-so-above-average longevity, she only persists approximately 4-5 hours on me. Also, Noir is not a typical scent for highly matured women I think, the pepper makes her a little bit sassy.

7.5-8 /10.

This was a serendipitous purchase..I mistakenly bought this. I was thinking I had smelled it and loved it in the store but now I realize it was Dahlia Divin. But this...this..is..me. Rose and pink peppercorn is my jam. It smells good on me and I THOUGHT I had smelled every possible combo..nope! This is almost indescribably delicious, sensual and womanly. It's not sweet...if it's powdery it's the powder smell that you get from an iris. If you are familiar with the smell of iris it's so soft but intoxicating..mix it it with my Rose/Pepper combo and oooohhh. You have to know real flower nuances to know the quality of this perfume. It is rounded out by the wood and vanilla and that is what you will be left with after wearing this for 12+ hours..spicy wood vanilla. As a side note..hours after I sprayed this on my husband said "I don't know what you are spraying around here but it's awesome!" That's high praise!

nancy marwan

Good powdery floral scent but not special.

pink_pepper

Can anyone tell me whether it is discontinued or not?

killerbee523

Simply put, this smells like a powdery Chloe eau de parfum. It is quite screechy at the opening, but pretty. Nothing noir about it.

pattyk

I've had this a while. Love it still. My hubby loves it too. He has allergies but does not complain about this one. It's feminine and not over bearing but not weak either. It's lovely and nothing offensive about it. Perfect for me! An example of perfumes I like are Jimmy Choo, Givenchy Indecence, Bvlgari perfumes, coco chanel. I also love amber, vanilla, jasmin in my perfumes. I have 100+ perfumes. I usually buy EDP's because the EDT's are too weak for my taste.

Loredana0108

This is Elie Saab's Le Parfum Rose Couture cousin. A powdery rose with a hint of spices. It is definitely a "serious" scent, nothing bubbly/flirty/joyful aboout it, but very alluring nonetheless. I think Dahlia Noir is perfect for a confident and sophisticated woman.

Mooniq

Dark powdery rose with an airy soft pepperynote. Clean and Fresh and almost skinclose. Longlasting on my skin.

Mörk pudrig ros med en luftig mjuk pepparnot. ren och fräsch och lite hudnära. Väldigt hållbar på min hud.

mirisfrik

Dahlia Noir is a little bit of everything. It is flowers, powder and warm vanilla, sexy, dominant and a bit vintage. It is very loud and powerful (on clothes). And sexy. It could easily be advertised with "Lady marmalade" movie screen-shots.
On skin, the beast behaves a little better. It is not that loud, but it is pretty enjoyable.
In my opinion, it is not an office safe fragrance. This seductive fragrance is perfect for night out or date. It's also kind of romantic and warming on the cold wind..

arwa hussein

flowery powdery sexy and soft but the longevity and projection are disappointed to me :(
i wish if it is stronger
my husband complement this perfume and love it on me :)

pattyk

I've had this perfume since it's first appearance. While I don't wear it every day, I like to wear it when I can because it is so NON offensive but yet you can detect it in a soft way. I can smell it for quite a while but I usually spray 3 sprays when I apply perfume. I'm about to buy a new bottle because it's very feminine and my husband, who dislikes strong perfume, loves it. I think that perfumes smell differently on everyone. I like the spicy ones with vanilla and some sweetness, but not too much along with patchouli and amber, although this one does not have amber it smells like it does, and tonka. This perfume says....I am feminine and I am here. I don't think that the perfumes that are associated with this perfume, you know, on the side, really reflect anything about this fragrance. I think it's one of Givenchy's best....besides the old Organza Indecence, my old favorite.....

Here is a fragrance that is until now a question mark for me. Test after test, it has been disclosing itself to me and my perception of it has been changing, but it is still a mistery.

The first time I tested it, I immediatelly noticed intense notes of iris and rose, which make it very powdery, and baby powder came to my mind right away. My first impression was, "How can this have anything to do with a noir perfume?". But, after some minutes, powerful notes of patchouli, bitter mandarin and a sort of caramelized tonka bean came to play. They didn't seem to fit in with all those powdery flower notes. The fragrance looked confused and a bit melancholic, even sad, because of the powder and the patchouli.

One more try, and now the powdery notes reminded me of fragrances from the 1940s, 1950s, but without all the depth and complexity of their composition. There was something of film noir in the air. Was this the "noir" of the fragrance? I could not think of a circumstance to wear it. It was not a perfume to a daily use; I thought it was very serious, stern, not jovial or sensual at all.

My sample was almost finished, and I finally started to get used with the seriousness of the fragrance. Soon after applied, the sillage was strong during the first hour. From then on, it got weaker and weaker very quickly, and in 3 hours all I got was a skin scent. Despite the intense initial sillage, it turned very soft soon after, and did not last long (about 6 hours), which I think is very little for an EDP which seemed to promise a lot of intensity. Not bad for me, for I was a little disturbed with all that circumspection. Now the powder and the patchouli prevailed, and I finally understood the "noir" of the name, in the vintage, misterious and obscure notes.

One of the most difficult fragrances I've ever tried, I think it is vital to test several times before buying it.

Nikkafragrance

If you're looking for a scent that fits the description of a cold scent, just smell Dahlia Noir and you know what?! I love that kind of perfumes. There is something mysterious about this fragrance. It's beautiful in a very sophisticated way, yet shy. It's not screaming: "Hey, everybody, look at me, because I am here!" For me it works during the day, but it feels very attractive in night time. Someone wrote that it's suitable for a conservative woman and indeed, I almost agree, however I see the woman wearing DN as an introvert with a very strong personality at the same time.

Kai'elle

Very peppery opening (awesome!) which I just love. Wish that note would stay through to the end. Mandarin is non existent to me in this one. Light rose. Yes powdery/musky. Nice deep woody/vanilla dry down. I settled into this perfume from the moment it hit my skin .. was very comfortable wearing it and I must confess it brings out an edgy (and hopefully sexy...lol) attitude in me :)

I am one of those people who simply cannot take a scent at face value and smell it out of a clear container to find out if I like it or not. I need to know how it is packaged and watch an ad or two to find out what demographic it is targeted to, how the company has chosen to present the scent and how I can "expect to feel" wearing it. I was initially drawn to the scent by watching the featured ad with Mariacarla Boscono writhing around in black and white in a flowy dress. To me she seems like the perfect face for this fragrance.

Normally pink pepper makes me nauseous and it is one of the notes I cannot stand in perfume, but here it is extremely well-blended with the florals. This is dark, complex and elegant and thus it speaks to the image of myself that I want to project to the world with my style and, yes, scent. Still, I am not in love with it - it is too distant to let me love it, and somehow that makes me like it even more...

badloser

A great baby powder perfume with a bit of a darker side! But not much. Incredibly luxurious bottle that stuns. The name is ill-suited if you ask me. Lasts long; about 6 hours; and has limited sillage. I could smell it on myself (and kept taking whiffs) but others could not. I love the perfume as a baby powder-fetish-niche type, but probably not for daily wear.

cstands

Finding it hard to believe Noir's lack of fans! The mandarin opening was a very pleasant surprise indeed. To me, however, the pink pepper steals the show. This keps going... and going... I am overjoyed at the lack of Patchoulli on my skin - usually a big no-no with my chemistry. Tonka bean and vanilla in the base - how very smart, elegant and comforting.
Lovely powdery dry-down.
I'm wearing Versace Crystal Noir on the other wrist... can't believe I'd never noticed how comparable they are. Pink pepper seems the main difference, as well as the somewhat more powdery dry-down and may just be giving Dahlia the edge here...
Now, how do I get my hands on a bottle???

matthew369

This smells 100% like baby powder. and you know what? i would MUCH rather smell this on a girl than most perfumes out there!!! it's very, very nice.

Mojtabaa

A dangerous cryptic dance in a dusky crypt.

To create these kinds of ambiences is not an easy task, only real perfume masters like Francois Demachy are able to create and depict such moods.

The image of a femme fatale is very good depicted in Dahlia noir thanks to the clever use of patchouli.

The feminine aspect of this perfume is again cleverly made by proper amount of sensual floral notes of rose and iris, softened by mimosa.

The whole sensual-fatal composition is wraped in a very smooth base of vanilla, tonka and sandalwood.

The base notes here are very well connected to patchouli. They don't destroy the dark and mysterious aspect of patchouli.

All I can say is that it's another masterpiece (in its own genre) by honorable Francois Demachy.

Update:

The image of femme fatale in Dahlia Noir is modernized. It lacks the true darkness and diabolical aspect of a real femme fatale perfume. Its a meek, shy or exhausted femme fatale!
Neveretheless, it's still better than many generic and boring girlish scents out there.

Dahlia Noir is among those perfumes which I can't detect its components separately; and that's what I adore. A harmonious blend of flowers with an exact feel of powerdiness has emerged as a mild aroma with an imaginary color of the bottle. Really nice and suitable for those who want to smell delicately.

pacciosa

As usual I buy it online only based upon your rewiews and... i'm in love!!!! Finally I found MY powdery fragrance It is very very powdery, it's Johnson & Johnson baby Powder at all, nothing else only baby powder!!! Love love love love

Megamind

I tried it several times and every time it fails. It's unsupportable on the skin and I cannot bear this surgery sweetness from the mix of patchouli, pink pepper and rose. I tested pink paper in several fragrancies so far and it is always quite a sweet ingredient. Pink pepper and patchouli is just too much taking into account a huge long lasting power of this scent. A real poison.
But recently I tried it on the clothes and it is much better and less powerful. But any case I prefer the flowery mimosa opening. Dry down is still too sweet for my tastes even if however less sweet then on the skin. BTW it's not too powdery as other reviewers mention. So definitely there is something to do with the skin chemistry.
The name matches well with this scent. The opening is very attractive and appealing. And once the victim is captured she is slowly killed with a sweet poison.

jenniilou

LOVE! This is creamy, powdery, longlasting.
I simply adore this one...

MademoiselleMaya

Very dry, powdery and gloomy scent. Mimosa and iris supported by pink pepper on a very pale base.
It has its moments when rose and orange? pop out now and then, but otherwise it's too grey for me.
Dark, dangerous, sexy? Never.
It reminds me of a very conservative woman, who wears grey clothes, immaculate coiffure and never smiles.

Adia31

I bought it without smelling before, was a blind purchase on my skin the smell is purely patchouly, tonka and cumin bitter sweet beacuse of patchuly. In my skin is a male dirty parfume. Powdery notes aren´t on my skin and i needed a powder scent.

kateapple

Unlike most of the reviews here, I actually do get a bit of a "noir" vibe from this one. My skin plays up the sandalwood a bunch, as well as the patchouli and tonka bean. It's very creamy, sensual, and warm. There's some powdery undertones, and a bit of floral wisps here and there, but for me, this is not the powdery floral that so many others get. I had my mother try this, and it smells entirely different on her. I must say though, the way it smells on me is so delightfully rich yet still somehow airy, it's very unique. It's almost like the softer sister of Versace's Crystal Noir.

dormir6

Srictly analyzing it is really close to baby powder, but overall it's not a sweet innocent comfort fragrance. It has some melancholy, it has some pain, fatality. Elegance with a hint of vulnerability. Very complex. I like to wear it in automn, when the light and colours of summer still can be seen but what you feel is cool air on your skin. It:s a perfume of woman with a secret, that makes her both strong and weak.

pyttlc

i say this one hard to judege with first impression. Is this chypre floral? i wonder. The four key notes: oakmoss, labdanum, patchouli, bergamot. There's only patchouli in this perfume and no moist feeling at all. All is about powder. Dusty chypre...i guess powdery chypre is better.

It's not mysterious enough. A bit Sweet, kind of cool and i try to detect the dry down. It's not as good as expected. This is Givenchy and not sport scent. Longevity is average.

i think it'll take some time to discover this Dahlia Noir.

amirali0072000

elegant..it opens with a powdery top note.. I adore the scent. It's this fall good surprise for me...A strong sweet fragrance with floral notes, this is a perfect daytime scent. very good.

personagrata

YES,a baby Powder kind of smell, in the genre of kenzo flower. Zero projection and longevity, I wonder why they made a lighter version (l'eau) and not an intense one, since this one is already too weak for an eau de parfum. Nice, comforting, but nothing spectacular. I will pass.

catpud

Deeeeeee......vine, utterly divine!

A gorgeous posh perfume. I douse myself in it at the perfume counter and i soak the tester cards with it and put them in my drawers amongst my clothes, and that's what i always do with the tester cards rather than bin them, and it's better than using scented drawer liners which don't last more than a couple of weeks if you're lucky.

A lovely strong floral scent which i absolutely adore.

nerolette

I fell unexpectedly in love with Dahlia Divin not long ago, so I was excited to try this, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why anyone would put these two scents under the same name umbrella. Noir is boring where Divin intrigues, old-fashioned where Divin is youthful, clingy where Divin first melts and then blossoms off of the skin.

chinna

I do not know WHAT IS THE similarity, but this perfume, and also the other with pink cap, remind me J'adore Dior perfumes.

Angeldaisy

Ok, i have read a few reviews and:
1. nope this smells nothing like Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood, which is sumptuous, sexy and a bit dirty/naughty. rich, textured, womanly, soft, beautiful, intriguing. everything in fact, that Dahlia noir is not...
2. yes, it does smell like baby wipes.
3. i agree, this scent does not match it's price tag or its name.

i tested in town and 2 people commented...due to powerful sillage to begin with! i'd say about 2 metres....arrrggghhhhhh. it terrified me. they both said it smelt like the air freshener machines you have in public toilets. i am afraid that stayed with me and suddenly from thinking "i know that smell?!" to..."yes! the local lavatories". i wish they hadn't said it, but they did. sorry Givenchy. sorry Dahlia Noir fans.

Noir? this is the least Noir thing i've ever whiffed.
i clearly do not understand this fragrance and after the initial choking "cheap" OTT "feminine" opening...the dry down is rather pleasant and powdery and i am also sorry to say, non-descript. i actually find that the combination of brash and synthetic notes that set it off, followed by the too subtle dry down confusing...they don't fit each other IMO. it's as if they thought..."this smells nice, that'll do"...signed it off, then rushed off for the Bank Holiday, and forgot to put the final ingredient in.

sorry Dahlia Noir...i had high hopes after reading a lot of the reviews on here. I can't believe this was made by the same house as Amarige.
to end on a positive note, nice bottle and boîte.

Contessa01

Hmmm I would say this is a powdery baby powder-ish fragrance. it is a bit unusual in that it is not fresh and clean but has a dirtiness to it. Maybe a bit like Vivianne Westwood Boudoir? Not sure if I will keep it but I have had quite a few compliments when I have worn it.

chanka

it is very fruity and sour on the beginning.... than little bit rosy
and later when it dries it becomes little bit powdery.. but very soft..
i dont understand why it is described as extra powdery... it is not extra powdery at all
very interesting nice scent

just one question:
if it remembers you baby powder, what baby powder do u use or did ???
i just dont see the connection..

chimidoro

Perfect on a warm, rainy afternoon.

Dahlia Noir (EDP) opens brightly with juicy orange and fresh mimosa, then swiftly becomes predominantly musky. A subtly sensuous, powdery, salty "clean skin" vanillic musk, with a smooth, buttery iris and dreamy sandalwood, provides a delectable backdrop for moist, honey drizzled, plush pink rose petals.

If I had to compare this to another scent, I'd describe Dahlia Noir (EDP) as a modernized, fresher, zesty, creamier, far less suffocatingly sweet take on/version of Ombre Rose. (I personally find Ombre Rose to be somewhat smothering, too strong, too sweet, too linear, and a little bit (DARE I SAY?) somewhat dated. At times I can appreciate it, sometimes love it, but overall I'm far fonder of the deeper yet fresher, more ethereal Dahlia Noir!)

It's like taking a snooze after indulging in a whole tub of vanilla ice cream with thick honey spooned all over it.

Dahlia Noir (EDP) puts me in mind of clean, moist skin with a delicate layer of oil/sweat. I find this scent comforting and refreshing. A nice "pick-me-up" for days/evenings when you're in the mood for something a little more natural smelling.
My best friend says it smells like dill. Strange but true, and I'm inclined to agree!

Easy to over-spray, so beware; it's really not required. Better to top up in a few hours than to over-apply. Keep it low-key.
It has relatively good lasting power (around 8 hours on my skin), projects to arm length (with only one or two sprays), and becomes skin-close after around 3-4 hours.

(By the by, is there definitely no frangipani here?)

LizzieDee

Rose, rose, rose. Powdery rose. I wear Dahlia Noir on days at work when I have to tell people things they'll find hard to deal with and I want to soften the impact. It is feminine, gentle and unchallenging.
By the way, the moisturising gel is lovely to use.

katvasa

Unfortunately, far too powdery on me. I foolishly bought this blind, and unsurprisingly regret it. This shares the same powdery note as my daughter's nappy wipes, so however the rest of the floral structure is, when I spray this, all I can think of is baby wipe.

juji

This came as a decannt out of a sample box, which was a surprise. at first I thought it was lovely, then...my most hated noote emerged-metallic! This MUST be the iris and how it developed with my skin because now I think I've finally nailed down a couple of notes to absolutely stay away from. Unfortunately, Dahlia Noir would have been the most beautiful, creamy, rose with some patchouli and sandlewood! After 19 minutes it became a definite scrubber. I'm sad.

*edit The drydown isn't scaring me quite as much....the metal has faded quite a bit now and I see a "shadow" of something much better, something I'm warming up to.

liluliluka

I first tried it on a rainy day and I didn't care for it much then, however today is really cold and dry in January and I like it a lot. It starts out a bit rosy on me and then the iris note in the middle, which I normally wouldn't care for neither notes, but after about 30 min,the drydown it's just a beautiful creamy a little bit of powdery Tonka bean, which is really nice.It is not my favourite, but it is a nice fragrance,I would say a little sweeter at the end which I like and it last a good while!

AdrianB

Dahlia Noir is what I had hoped Sarah Jessica Parker's "Lovely" would be.

My nose picks up vintage Skin Musk (Bonne Bell) with Bvlgari Rose Essentialle lurking in the background. There's a very light patchouli mixed in but it's incredibly soft and subtle. THIS is the clean, fresh, pretty musk perfume I've been looking for. I can't stop sniffing my wrist when I wear this. I have a dabber mini but for me this is FB material.

I can see this work for all seasons, but I imagine this is gorgeous on a warm spring or summer night.

It's hard for me to tell projection and sillage from a dab perfume but I can smell it quite well after applying an hour ago.

I will say that I think "Noir" is misleading. Tendre is more accurate. Or simply...gorgeous.

epg

The name is indeed very misleading. The opening is very peppery and the drydown is roses and sandalwood to me. Wonderfully powdery all the way through. Sits close to skin and longevity is very good(about 6-8 hours). Very classy and ladylike, but not grandma at all. I love it. It's one of my favorites!

SquirrelMonkey

love at first spritz.
I wish every blind buy was at least this nice.
soft, not too sweet, with a nice warm base.
starts off great, and grows lovelier, there isn't that lag time of waiting and hoping for something good to happen after dry down.
and it plays well with others, I am layering it with a unisex scent that is smoky and oud-y and mannish and it is great combined with that, too.
while not one of my all time favorites, still a nice scent that's easy to wear.

Sampat

very subtle rose, a tiny hint of Iris... the combination is a classic and well done here.

joonzmoon

Agree 100% with MissZaros: this is baby powder in a perfume bottle.

MissZaros

This has GOT to be the most misleading perfume name in all history of perfumery. There's absolutely NOTHING "noir" about it: nothing sexy, nothing dark, nothing mysterious, nothing deep and nothing luxurious. All I can smell is BABY POWDER. Pure, tedious, dull baby powder.

Seriously, all these reviews MUST be of a different Dahlia Noir. Citrus? Spicy? Someone even said masculine! Definitely not the same one I have.

I spray it on my dog after his baths (the only use I could find for it, really), and everybody always comments that he smells like a baby when I do. I suppose I rest my case...

Juliana6

This is my second review about this scent.
Please, don't judge about it after the first sniff or after a short period of wearing it. When I first tried the scent I wasn't impressed -it smelled like something already known, maybe too classic for me, strong and sometimes even masculine. I saw a perfectly dressed office lady who is always competent, always so "right". I didn't like that image at all, so I didn't care for the perfume.
Now something has changed. I found a sample of it in a glanced magazine and decided to try it one more time. The last one.

And I was really surprised.
The opening is strong, peppery+citrus with some sparkles of masculine notes with a drop of honey. I think this created the image I described. There's some Chanel classic vibe going on here. Then it settles down, I get a modern, citrus enveloped rose and patchouli- a strong combination for an individual, confident woman. I like the patchouli here- strong, but not too strong not nauseating or headache inducing. I just love this stage- deep, still strong, a bit masculine too, but so relaxing and waking senses. Somehow I smell the autumn in it.
In the end this scent becomes softer, sweeter (I guess it's the vanilla) and carelessly sensual (must be the sandalwood). I was sure it had the musk in it, but it doesn't.
If overdosed, might be too strong.
A modern, fresh and timeless classic for dynamic, young women.

Kitty48

My first thought on spraying this was how warm it smelled, it kind of reminds me a little bit of Dior Dune, it has some similar notes and certainly gives that same cosy, comforting feeling when first sprayed.

The drydown is very powdery and soft and the iris comes through very strongly. I don't detect rose, but I get the patchouli.

My only point against it would be the longevity, it's barely noticeable on my skin after 6 hours, although having said that it does still smell stronger on my sleeve!

jenniewebb

For me this has a warm, dusty and smooth-textured vibe sitting under powder notes, infused with mimosa and pink pepper, which float above. It brings to my mind the smooth natural textures of suede or silk, without actually smelling like either of these.

I don't wear warm and smooth fragrances as often as I wear bright and fresh ones, but that's more to do with the climate I live in than the appeal of the warm side of perfumes. I should wear this more often because it's lovely, classy and quite sophisticated for a powder 'fume. I get about 4 hours of detectible longevity with arms-length sillage.

Dahlia Noir EDP is a certainly a smooth operator.

Jinjanoo

This is just a perfect scent, I adore it! I am planning on getting the body cream to layer it for a longer lasting smell, if anyone has tried the body creams I would appreciate any feedback on it. :0)

fiouu

Reminds me of a scented talcum powder a friend of mine had When We were kiddies. I loved to smell that stuff, because it was a perfume-y kind of talc, it was really strong and flowery. I always smelled her perfumes to see If it was some of them but it was the talcum that smelled sooo good. This smells Just like it, sweeter and missing some indolic jasmine, nevertheless awesome. I found my springtime frag! A very modern take on chypre florals
ETA: sillage is so so heavy I can't breathe right If I spray more than two spritzes, stays heavy on the sillage for about an hour and a half and begins to dry down, about 4 hs it's a very noticeable skin scent, at six or so it's a skin scent that lingers until you shower. Longevity is 8hrs+ with medium sillage.

SundayMorning

Just as it says:" Woody, powdery, floral".
Its a nice floral scent, leaning towards a nice "just came out from the shower"-freshness.
A scent in its time, that i will not remember forever.
Safe to buy as a gift for somebody you like.

pipergirl

I look at the notes and I should like (no love) this fragrance. But I don't. Why? What on earth is that note that just doesn't do it for me. Well, Synergypsy has nailed it for me - Baby Oil! I get a powdery florals drenched in baby oil from this. It's a little odd to be quite honest. But, yep, that's it...Baby oil. I get that same sort of baby oil note from Bvlgari Pour Femme.

synergypsy

The beach! I get baby oil and ocean breezes. Some hint of salt air. It's not unpleasant, but it's not darkly mysterious, either, as the name implies. I get absolutely the opposite of "dark"-- a fresh and happy scent. The only mystery IMO is the scent is evocative of SOMETHING you can't quite put your finger on. For me, it's a beachy scent. Kind of leaning towards soapy. The rose is there, soft and sweet, but balanced by the Mandarin orange. Mimosa drifts in and out. Kind of a dreamy fragrance, but on a relatively even keel. I get no vanilla, so no real depth or warmth. I agree that it's probably perfect for anytime wear; a people-pleaser!

theuntrainednose

Very powdery in a delightful, calming way. A hint of flowers, but for me it's the powder note that I love most.

Imagine the best baby powder scent (a really, really good one) and make it a little more grown-up. For me, it's like a soft calming embrace, that curiously reminds me of some product (wish I could remember what!) used at the beach in my childhood.

MissZaros

I was a tad disappointed by it. I was expecting more of an elegant woody/floral fragrance but instead it smells like TALCUM POWDER. I kind of feel like an old lady when I wear this. Definitely not a favorite.

evacecilias

This powdery rose/patch/sandalwood combo is really something for the rose lover,in the field of mainstreem business.
I love this !
Its a powdery rose that never get's boring!
The mimose/ iris is creating such a lovely entry within ten minutes.
It really smells fantastic.
It is, like almost any other Givenchy - very well blended so the perfume never leaves you bored or let's you forget about it's existense...
Where the mixed notes overlapping each other to perfection.
It is a perfume to use for day and office wear as well as resprayed for an after work dinner out on the town!
It is sexy, powdery, feminine and very well done !
But I am right now into a Givenchy cloud ,of my dreams so forgive me if I'm
letting things get a little out of hand here...

The edt is fresher , clearer , less powdery and more one faced and therefor less interesting, but a really good substitute if you can't take the powdery puff of the edp.
Well done Givenchy !

CozyCat

This gave me headaches and made me nauseous, I had to scrub it off after an hour. I had good expectations from this scent reading the reviews and was hoping I would get the 'melancholy' in this scent that others mention. Instead of that, I got a bright, screechy-sweet, powdery spring bouquet. I usually enjoy powdery florals and rose-iris combinations, but this is just too floral-sugar-powdery sweet...I don't know, it lacks depth and warmth for me, no musk or balminess to anchor it, no green notes to give it more balance...just screechy, sweet floral powder all the way, and it gets even sharper, 'brighter' and sweeter as it dries down. . I prefer my powdery florals to be warm, but fresh and musky (like Love, Chloe), or rich and buttery (like Chanel No.5). I think mimosa must be the culprit that's giving it that overwhelming floral sweetness, especially being paired with patchouli to intensify its effects. Something about it reminds me of Kenzo Flower (which I also dislike), but Flower is more tolerable. Anyway, this is a very powdery and sweet floral scent, very spring-y and retro-ish, with alot of mimosa, alot of it. Go for it if that sounds appealing to you. I'm staying far away from it.

So far there are only two Givenchys that I love, Ange Ou Demon and Organza (which I unfortunately can't wear anymore since it started triggering headaches)...the rest have either been total misses or plain 'mehs'. Guess this house is not for me. Atleast I have my beloved Ange Ou Demon.

Bluemarinejosephine

I really like this. It keeps me interested.

It opens up as a fruity floral with cherry and rose. Then comes a green undertone with a subtle iris. The middle tones explode to a beautiful fluffy, breezy powder with a slight violet tone (not baby powder, in my opinion).
The base tones are sweet and comforting blending nicely with the powder.

It is a very feminine, sophisticated, mellow and inoffensive scent. It is the ultimate office-wear fragrance, in my opinion, subtle but will get you noticed.
Sillage and longevity are moderate, you will have to re-apply during the day.

Enjoy the perfume quest.

personagrata

Ι sampled this one in a Department store, yesterday and I waited to make a decision. As much as I adore powdery perfumes, I am sorry to say, this one, to my nose, is anything but powdery. It reminds me of a shampoo , a light hair cream, i don; t know, it s just not what I expected. I sprayed on my wrist and I could hardly smell it. Light , non offensive but nothing spectacular. At least for me, this is not my conception of a powdery perfume (like love chloe, shalimar, chanel nr5). Maybe givenchy is not my style, I hardly like their perfumes, I like ange ou demon which to me is more powdery than this one. Maybe dahlia noir is the preface for Young girls WHO want to enter to the World of sophisticated non sichkly sweet airy powdery perfumes. But again, this one has something soapy , but not nice soap (like d&G Red cup, the old one). I hope I did not dissapoint those WHO adore this scent. I am just saying there are a lot more adequate to the category of "powdery".

isabelamattarelli

In my skin it's all about iris! Intense iris mixed with roses, sandalwood and a hint of vanilla.

Dahlia Noir is a very sophisticated fragance, long lasting and the sillage is great. Remembers me of Flower by Kenzo, the same powdery vibe and this powdery vibe is the "noir", the retro feeling.

danaja34

I do not see anything powdery at all. For me, powdery means calm and gentle and cozy. Dahlia opens on my skin very sharp than the smell has been something familiar, and yes it reminds me on children's syrup against fever.I consider powdery: L'instant, L'instant magic, Pretty swan, L'air du temps and even Chanel 5 at some point. Powdery for me shouldn't be sweet either sharp.

Mooniq

A true beauty! I love the Rose, Iris and Pepper-mix. This one gets a little bit dark and melankoly on my skin. Longlasting and a nice powdernote in base.

En riktig skönhet! Jag älskar Ros, Iris och peppar-mixen. Denna blir lite mörk och melankolisk på mig. Mycket hållbar och en trevlig pudernot i basen.

amywamywoo

It's definately got that baby powder vibe going on, it's quite lovely though. On me it's all powdery iris, pink pepper and clean patchouli for hours. Never overpowering, very versatile. It easily manages to be sophisticated, feminine and romantic.
There's nothing 'Noir' about this though, it's too polite. If you enjoy Chloe Love, i think you'd enjoy this too.

Edit:
I did a little switch-a-roo for the new Dahlia Divin and as much as I liked this scent, the new Dahlia really is divine!

DariDahlia

Like others have said, this has a very classic, vintage feel to it. It's very familiar, like something an older relative or teacher may have worn. It's a perfect blend of floral, powdery, and fresh. My husband LOVES this on me and usually he just likes the scent of my skin.
This is the first Givenchy that I've worn that hasn't turned "sour" on me. Amarige and their other classic fragrances do NOT mix with my skin.

Lybarra118

For some reason, this scent reminds me of when I was a 10 year old little girl and my very wealthy aunt would pick me up in her brand new BMW for a day of shopping. You could smell the new car scent (new leather), along with the spearmint gum she always chewed, and the opened bottle of Perrier sparkling mineral water that forever sat in the cup holder.

My family had little money, but being with my aunt, smelling my aunt, I felt rich just being near her. I yearned to smell like her one day. That's how this perfume makes me feel.

It's just lovely. Very inoffensive. It's the ultimate daytime office perfume that is soft, but will definitely get you noticed. I do get a bit of the powder but I've smelled far stronger before. It's a fluffy, breezy baby powder, in my opinion.

It gives me a sweet spearmint tic tac vibe.

Phantosmia Bella

I recieved a few testers of this fragrance and gave it a try a while ago.
The scent was nice enough, powdery but not exagerated, flowery with a strong iris note, some rose and pink pepper, and I can feel the patchouli and mimose in the background, actually quite present.

I liked it enough to wear it a couple of times, but not enough to buy an entire bottle.
It's a good scent, not offensive in the least, and it's well balanced. On the other hand, on my skin it's nothing too special. This is a bit like Idylle by Guerlain with a very irisy twist, more powdery and less musky, and IMHO not worth a full-bottle experience.

Yet, I must say again, it's a very likable and good scent, and those who like these notes will enjoy a well concocted perfume.

longevity is good and sillage moderate.

dkny27

Deliciously sophisticated... Powdery soft flowers matched with the slightly sharp kiss of pink pepper and patchouli, neither of which overpower this scent at all.
Cooler weather scent but you could certainly get away with this scent in the spring. It oozes classy with a hidden wink of sexy... It's the kind of fragrance that catches your noses attention on a light breeze... Very beautiful compilation!

Agafia

Oh my goddess, I love the whole line... That's something that Marylin Monroe, or Rita Hayworth could smell like...
When I smell them, beautiful spacy art deco interiors come to my mind... Or a 40's/50's movie set, with a makeup artist who holds luxurious powders and cosmetics for the stars...
Love, love, love it.

ancaan

This is the only Givenchy perfumes tested so far that I love. I must admit, it wasn't love at first sniff. Nor the second. But the third time i've tested, i knew i had to own it. It's very sensual, mysterious, seductive. Very powdery, like an expensive make-up blush. To me, iris is the most noticeable, beautifully blended with rose and pink pepper. Such an elegant perfume! Stunning in summer nights!

frag-overdose

Dahlia Noir EDP
is a sensuous,
sexy-smelling,
baby-powder-like
perfume.

The rose-iris accord
smells classic and
truly seductive
for certain, it gives some sort
of mysterious charm
yet innocent attraction.

lvscents

Shh! Her eyes are closed. She rests upon on a bed of pink rose petals under the waving branches of a softly spiced tree. A gentle mimosa breeze wafts past, now, and then. All is quiet and well. And very, very beautiful.

Angel in the South

I love powdery perfumes but IMHO this is not a very powdery perfume. Please do not be put off trying this one. I smell iris and pepper with a little patchouli and soft sandlewood and some mimosa as well. It is a very soft, romantic and very feminine perfume. Maybe noir is a misleading description, this perfume is anything but dark. I have been wearing it all day and people have commented that I am leaving a beautiful perfume aura as I walk around. It was half price at Boots (£21.50 for 30ml) and I am more than happy to now own this lovely perfume.

zzMaja

Very sensuous, mysterious, sophisticated and I am enjoying it all day long. Yes, it is powdery, but not at all like baby powder. More like a soft crushed flower that has been dusted onto your skin. I will definitely consider purchasing this one after trying my sample. It gives my skin a warm and spicy scent as it dries down after a few hour. I do like this very much.

Octoberamy

I love this. I bought it while on vacation in Cozumel at one of the tourist shops. I just passed by and spritzed it on because I thought the bottle was pretty. Well I couldn't stop sniffing my wrists and finally had to walk back to the shop and buy it. I don't have a good enough nose to define all the notes but I do detect the powdery rose and citrus. It's just addictive and pleasant. Normally I can't stand patchouli because it's so sharp and bugspray-esque. But this one isn't, there's apparently just a hint of it. A very safe perfume for the office, not offensive to anybody, in my opinion.

happygeisha

"andabri" described this frag PERFECTLY!!

i honestly couldn't have said it better. DN smells nothing like baby powder, nothing! in fact what i am smelling once the initial blast of iris fades is a tangy, drunk mandarin mixed with sparkling fresh roses, pink pepper and mimosa! then, lurking just beneath those notes you'll find patchouli, vanilla and sandalwood keeping all the notes warm, woody and SINGING on your skin.

Fahhh! La! LA! Laaaaa!!!!

this juice is complex and gorgeous. in a way it reminds me quite a bit of Briar Rose by Ineke.

kaejuntun

I got the chance to test this for the first time on my skin the other day - after reading the reviews I was intrigued. I like powdery scents on occasion, but they can be tricky on my skin. I don't have anything earth shattering to add to what has already been said about Dahlia Noir. For the first hour or two it does bear a strong resemblance to baby powder. It is clean and sweet. Once it hits the dry down I get a rose-laced patchouli, warm and somewhat earthy, but still clean. Overall I liked it. It isn't the kind of fragrance that is likely to revolutionize the perfume world, but it's not bad, either.

ecerusen

its powdery notes reminds me Organza, but on me it smells younger sister of organza.
the patchouli is used as its best way, it doesnt irritate you but you can feel it.
iris, rose, some powdery notes and a bit patchouli appeared on my skin. i'm surprised because my skin is a patchouli bomber. this time it doesnt happen :)

sandalwood is more dominant than vanilla on me.

my skin is dry, so maybe it shows itself very differently on oily skins.

all in all,
on me it is very masculine, it smells good but i dont want to wear it now. maybe later when my interests change, i would give it a second try.

*according to my skin -which is dry- *

sillage : 6/10
longevity : 5/10

oh i just forgot to add the similarity with Kenzo Flower. this one is really similar with KF. but in more wearable way. because kenzo flower is too strong and intense, it cloys me. this one is more easy to wear.

celebrity89

Elizabeth Short must have worn Heaven Scent. Seriously, no pun intended. This truly is an incense-like fragrance of baby lotion/patchouli.

ScarlettX

When I smelt it from the bottle it didn't leave me any impression at all. Now, I have given it a second chance, but it seems that it's still not my thing.
I actually like perfumes with similar notes, so I don't know why it's not working for me.
It smells like a soapy water or cleaning product. I am not impressed.
Still, when 9 hours had passed, it's started to smell kind of alright.(not perfect)
It wasn't totally annoying, just not impressive enough for me.

lanhua

I got a sample of it as a GWP from Sephora and I can join the crowd of people surprised by the difference between the name and the scent. Not dark at all. As most people point out it smells a bit like baby powder but I still like it. I feel that this is a "warm", "homely" scent for those days when you just need to sit by the window and read a book. I would love to get it but only if I had enough money to spend. I can't possibly justify spending this amount of money for something I won't wear outside. That being said I just keep thinking about it. I think it also speaks about the perfume. It can get under your skin and leave an impression but I also find it somewhat unsettling that people can smell baby powder and get reminded of you.
So in the end, it is a good perfume but it is lacking something. The name is not quite right and there is something missing in the fragrance composition to make it truly stand out.

merlin1999

I smell the full range of baby products here, from baby wipes to baby oil to baby powder. I really don't know what to make of it. I get a tiny bit of mimosa, a little sandalwood, but for me it's all curiously flat and uninteresting. Baby soap dry-down, with a slightly burnt smell wafting up.....do I smell toasted baby wipes? Perhaps that is the noir bit!!! Not for me.

charmedbella

I tested this at a department store and loved how it smelled. I went back to pick up a bottle and enjoyed wearing it, however this is pure baby powder on me. A co-worker even asked if had applied baby powder!

This is light, sweet, feminine, inoffensive, simple, and heavy on the powder. I layer this with Chanel No 19 Poudre to add a little extra sweetness to balance out No 19's green freshness.

To be honest, I would not repurchase this. It isn't dangerous or mysterious. I agree with another reviewer who described Dahlia Noir as melancholy, but certainly there is no danger the way Givenchy had intended.

twoteacakes

I adore this scent, it was what got me recently interested in fragrance as it was love at first sniff which has never happened before! I get the baby powder similarities too, but it is much more complex than that. I love the powdery finish. The rose, iris, sandalwood and patchouli come together in a symphony and I feel like I am wearing a delicate fluffy angora jumper. It never offends me, I can wear it during the day, at night. It makes me feel comforted and cosseted. Love, love, love...

brimanrique

The powdery of this scent on me is overwhelming, simply unsoportable give me a big headache during all day. And I'm totally agree that is pure Johnson powder & baby body wash.

incrediblemelk

The pink pepper note is quite noticeable and enjoyable for me; it gives a really intriguing, exotic quality to the rose and iris. I've only tried this on a card but would love to give it a go on my skin to see how it behaves.

Tamsey

OOh how i want this one...

Rasyima Ghazali

Exaclty it smells like johnson baby bath n shampoo hahaha. Well the opening is very likeable neway. But i dont think i will purchase the full sizr. Even my male friend said it smell like johnson baby after i forced him to spray on his wrist. Hahahah but it is very likeable (:

MyFairLady

This is one of those perfumes you wear with your lbd - elegant and mature fragrance. The combination of pink pepper, rose and vanilla does its magic for me.

sahasz

bought this as I liked the pieces of paper I used to spray in there shop, I stopped liking it when I got home. I gave it to my mum, it was so not much fragrance. Kind of sweet/powdery and mainly too strong for me, it felt like there are only two notes in this fragrance and extremely strong not balanced by anything else.

ivyheel

If this smells like baby powder, there must be some very refined babies out there that I have not sniffed. I get rose and iris, and it quickly dries to a sophisticated floral powder. Nonintrusive and calming. I love it. It really reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez Essence, which I also own and love to bits.

anapardo81

I like it but on me it becomes slightly sour after a few minutes. Burberry Body works much better with my chemistry for a very similar powdery, woody, floral scent.

Tovah

This fragrance almost frightens me, because it doesn't seem to have much scent. I must be anosmic to a major component of the ingredients, but I'm not sure which ones. I know for sure that there are certain musks that don't exist for my nose, so maybe it's a musk or a blend of musks that I'm missing.

For me it's vaguely iris-y, more floral than powder, and "clean" like 99% of fragrances that have been released in the past 5 years.

I hoped this would be "noir" and "chypre" but it's just not for me. I've tried it multiple times, with months in between, in 4 different states, at different times of day and night, in Sephora, Nordstrom...wherever else I've seen it.

On me, my liquid hand soaps are prettier and way more exiting than Dahlia Noir.

However-keep in mind that anosmia thing I mentioned. I have read many reviews that say things about Florabotanica that I've just written about Dahlia Noir. Yet, to me, Florabotanica is utterly amazing. The most beautiful fragrance I've worn in years and years. I find it has multiple layers, depth, and it creates a mood. My husband adores it and everyone I come in contact with goes nuts over the scent on me.

Dahlia Noir just isn't a "fit" for me, I guess.

I need to spray more Florabotanica!

andabri

I love the opening of this, I get pure, fresh iris. I wish I got powder like everyone seems to be developing on their skin.

It dries down very woody on my skin. It smells like young sapling branches, mixed with iris. There is the barest hint of pink pepper. I also get a really light airy whiff of citrus afterthought, almost like a squirt of kumquat. I supposed that might be the combination of mandarin and mimosa.

It's very interesting to smell and I rather like it.

hollyms

How can people not like this? So sexy, kinda seductive, classy, and a little bit preppy. Just a hint of sweetness that resembles coconut to me. I do not get any artificial fragrance here that some complain of, nor do I see a simple scent. It's complex! Just lovely.

EDIT While I still think this is a lovely scent, after taking it home with me I realized it was not what I smelled in the tester. The EDP is STRONG as all heck. It's a bomb of sharp, intense, dense florals. I had someone else smell it on my wrist and they said it was too strong for them as well. This was proven when, a few minutes later, not only did it give me a headache, but it almost made me feel wheezy! I've only had that happen one other time, when I accidentally overdid it on a heavy frag. But this time, I'd only applied 2 sprays of DN. I must pass, it's going back :(

Irinka Popova

one of my favorites!!! 8h on my skin and 2 days on clothes!!!just wonderful!!!

rockegg

This is pleasant and safe. If I were going into a situation where I wasn't sure what the people were like and how I wanted to come across this would be a good choice. Or if I was in a hurry in the morning and didn't want to take the time to figure out what sort of image I wanted to project that day, Dahlia Noir would be a good choice. It just smells nice. Sure, there's some baby powder in there, but not overwhelming. It's really very sophisticated. My emotional response is urban, but not aggressive, and not artsy. I think someone wearing this would make a good impression. I find the name and my olfactory impression to be at odds.

xjulietdx

The notes had my interest and it sounded like something right up my alley but unfortunately it wasn't. Only one word came to my mind while testing this: baby powder. Tons of baby powder. I wore it for probably one hour but it was almost unbearable so now I have a headache. I don't even like it on clothes cause the baby powder stands out even more. This is a huge dislike.

RugosaAlba

Just signing the review right under this one, actually I will paste it again.

I full heartedly embrace iris, soap, pink pepper, sandalwood and other niceties of Dahlia Noir.
This particular mélange by Francois Demachy just works for me.
Thanks to Dahlia Noir, I finally know that I am not intolerant of iris. Quite opposite, I love iris and want it in fragrance. Also love pink pepper and always did.
There is resemblance with Caleche by Hermes, but less soapy and more wearable.
There is also resemblance with Infusion D'Iris by Prada. While Infusion d'Iris is an indispensable concentree of Iris that is(I finally figured out the best use for it)great for layering with softer, more mellow and more carefree fragrances(Prada Candy is one example), Dahlia Noir can be and should be worn on it’s own.
Also there is nice sourness and saltiness here, probably, citrus. Patchouli(long lasting note that is both on the background and on the foreground and in the middle) is just perfect here, not too much, just enough. Actually, it's on the edge, it's the maximum patchouli I can tolerate.
There is another brand that seems to be in high esteem here , at Fragrantica, Nasomatto. I had chance to test about 6 fragrances from this line in the last fall at the local boutique. During it's powerful patchouli stage Dahlia Noir strongly resembles one of Nasomatto fragrances I have tested, most likely China White without incense. (At Nasomatto, they are not really willing to share the notes with us).
I would say Dahlia Noir is a very good fragrance and unlike boutique fragrances, it’s much more readily available(for now).

At some point at the dry down(8-10 hr on paper) Dahlia Noir starts smelling somewhat "gourmand", resembles the bitter sweet Venezia by Laura Biagiotti, beautiful, especially when I have Enchanted Forest by The Vagabond Prince(black currant that is also important in Venezia) on my left arm and Bottega Veneta on my right arm. I have concocted Venezia feel without Venezia. Really enjoy this three together. It smells so good here.

It's what La Petite Robe Noir by Guerlain could be, but is not.

ScarlRed

Dahlia Noir EdP is beautiful scent. On my skin it´s tender powdery rose, but now when is very hot outside, I can smell luxury floral cream. It seems like I´m wearing two different scents then. Also I am suprised by lasting power which is very good on me, almost all day. I am in love...

ecerusen

everybody said "most sexy perfume ever" but it just an ordinary perfume. nothing impressive.

CaramelChic

A "baby" version of Ombre Rose L'Original by Jean Charles Brosseau.

Rene007

for me its a pathcoli bomb with a soap aroma.
very fresh dominent aggresive and make you feel expensive

at the begining its very lemony with powder in the background and then the patochli breakout with a lot of power , makeup smell , fresh soil like after rain - i am not sure that its safe perfume and abbsoultly not for close office , but for great summer evening its will be great

nijntjes

I'm still not really sure about Dahlia Noir. I must admit that I find the overall fragrance pleasant, soft and powdery, and at the same time with a kind of daring touch to it, but I can't get over that baby powder-smell. I'ts most apparent at the beginning, but I must say that my mom came into my room when I had it on, while asking "what is that unusual smell?". Overall, like I said, it's not off-putting for me, and even kind of pleasant and warm, but I don't think I'd buy a full bottle of it, because I'm not really sure baby powder is my thing ;).

iMaverick

To me, Dahlia Noir is a dangerous play of innocence at the surface, but what truly lies beneath is a sensual and carnal knowledge of themselves. A little murderous? Maybe.

It starts of with a spark of green and a sunny floral in cool, vibrant technicolor shades of Spring. The scent deepens to the rosy scent of baby powder, all innocent and rather nostalgic.

But what lies underneath it all is almost shocking to me. The base is a green and musky patchouli. It smelled almost too fleshy on some days, a little too hot and bothered. Perhaps a bit personal. I find a perfume like this remarkable in this day and age of too many politically correct perfumes.

StellaDiverFlynn

Dahlia Noir is well blended, feels like chiffon. I can smell iris, pepper, orange, mimose and sandalwood. However, neither of them is overpowering. It's a powdery floral scent with a delicate sweetness. I think it works well in the three warmer seasons. It's tender and inoffensive, suitable for daily use in office. The sillage is pretty close to skin, the longevity is around 6h on me. Overall I like it, but do not yet have enough desire to own a full bottle.

The bottle suits the fragrance well. The ad campaign is ok if focusing on the tenderness illustrated by the fluctuation of the chiffon. It's not the sort of mysterious powerful gothic "noir", that's for sure. However, it has a slight melancholic vibe. But still, I'm not fond of the name as it makes me think of something unpleasant. I agree with cedriceccentric, that something "Poudré" as name might be better.

anna.glowacka

Gorgeous. But only for powdery scent lover. If you don't tolerate powdery perfumes it will suffocate you and become overpowering.
Starts very sharp with woody notes of powder. It's not a baby powder though, reminds me new unused lipstick, must be red :)
It starts powdery and stays powdery until the end. I can't find any rose here, only strong iris. It smells ultra feminine but with a spicy claw. In the drydown becomes stronger with good detectable patchouli. Love.

Merebon

Too subtle and didn't stay. Wouldn't spend all of that money for a perfume that calls itself "noir" for no staying power and nothing that stands out about the scent.

butterflyblue

My husband bought me the 2.5 oz perfume when we were at Nordstroms. I didn't hear of this on the Givenchy line so when I smelled it I didn't know what to expect. It's mesmerizing and so sexy. The dry down is soft powder and slight vanilla absolutely gorgeous. This is one of my favorites. People always comment on how good I smell. I know I do!

CeeCee

I was really enjoying this one at the office today and decided to spray a little more on my wrist. After 5 minutes, one of my male coworks walked by and said it smelled like baby powder in the office. Funny because I was reading all the reviews that said it smell like bady powder and disagreed. I still enjoy the scent but for anyone hoping to give this a try, probaby not a good idea to blind buy. If you love soft powdery scents like it do, its a winner.

Rux2589

I think this perfume is great. As a response to those who don't see the "noir" in this perfume, I would say the following:

I'm attracted to Dahlia Noir because I think its sweetness is actually discreet and with a hint of sadness. Elegance with a hint of warmth and severity at the same time. Sweet on the outside, dark on the inside.

Lovejaiphursaphir

Soft..feminine...but does not last on me. The peach note at the top is interesting.

Muzoona

Nothing special.. very ordinary perfume.

lara.suzin

[email protected]

This perfum it's very nice and aspecially rimined me a perfum that my nother used to use called Maja (about 35 years ago). like a baby powder.

maddame

I guess you can forget the "noir" in the title - I have chosen this fragrance as my pregnancy perfume.
It's clean, discreet and powdery, and one of the few that didn't bother my pregnancy hormones.

Use it in spring/fall and at daytime,it's perfect for the office,it gives you a clean feeling.

The scent is not groundbreaking, but comfortable to wear.

Merebon

I'm with Camilla. This lasted 5 minutes. How could anyone spend so much money on something like this? What a waste.

squirrelhead

I had been searching for over a year to replace my signature scent of a powder style
sent with light florals.
I found this and bought the parfum and body lotion .
The few times I have worn this scent ,people have remarked to me that it smells like a
soft French milled soap . I love the body lotion even more than the parfum.
The lotion imparts a softer realm. Although , the best way to experience the fragrance
is the layering of the two products . I feel this an elegant fragrance .

The name 'noir' is misleading, anyway the scent is more important, it's beautiful sweet powdery floral from the top note until the dry down. Not exactly the baby powder but powdery indeed. It's soft and beautiful kind of skinscent. I can't detect any mandarin orange or fruity in edp and it's really different from edt as I found it's fruity (edt version). I think the peachy pink juice exactly matches the scent in a bottle. Very nice smell!

Not bad. Just that though, I wouldn't be able to praise this perfume more based on what I experienced. It is very pleasant, inoffensive, baby soft and polite. It's not noir, in any way. Wouldn't buy a full bottle, but wouldn't rush to get rid of it if I ever received one as a gift. Also, I should mention that it doesn't belong to the chypre floral category, to my nose at least. To me it is more of a true floral (with a -slight- edge)

I get rose, patchouli and baby powder. It's interesting because the name and the ad campaign imply something more edgy. Maybe the patchouli? It's there but it's not all in your face Angel style.
It gets a shrug from me.

Imagine that scene in Ghostbusters where the giant marshmallow man assaults the city. Replace said man with giant freshly washed, changed and powdered mutant baby, and what you have is Dalia Noir. Baby powder bomb parfum elixir supreme.

Who you gonna call? Johnson & Johnson, apparently. ^_^

Talk about a misnamed product. Something called Black Dahlia should be dangerous, dark and kind of slutty. This stuff is cotton candy, Orange Crush and sugar shaken up in a bottle. I also have to say this is absolutely not a chypre--there's no oak moss or musk whatsoever. Sweet, rather flat, no complexity at all. The ideal perfume for a 7 year old girl. Perhaps they should have named it Jello or Pollyanna or Pledge. Considering this house's heritage it's almost tragic that I'm moving to a place where I'll not buy a Givenchy perfume again without testing it first.

I bought the perfume as a christmas gift for my mother, but she ended up giving it back to me because it simply did not bloom with her body chemistry - she'd spray and spray and smelled *nothing* but the ghost of roses.

I like powdery florals, so I tried it. All I can say it that I blew the bottom out of this fragrance. On me, it's a loud LOUD powdery note with a touch of rose and a disconcerting hit of camphor. Straight up Vicks vaporub.

Ugh.

I want to love it so much, but I gives me a headache whenever I wear it.

I have a full bottle as well as a bottle of lotion if anyone wants to do a swap :)

I just LOVE this, so sweet and powdery, creamy and comforting with an addictive undertone which makes this live up to its name and advertising for me.

Its pink and womanly but with a sweet and intoxicating darker side ;)

My new signature for sure, its the perfume I`ve been waiting for to match my personality.

Revontuli

The first impression when I sprayed was very good, it smelled very nice. But after 15-20 mins it was so powdery and smelled like these liquid soaps or gels in hotel rooms... Definitely not my style.

I came across this fragrance when a shop assistant at the duty free shop handed me a Givenchy ribbon and sprayed Dahlia Noir. I, at first whiff, found this fragrance super powdery and not to my taste but I could not stop smelling it. I fell in love! I almost bought it in the spur of the moment, not wanting to part with this elegant mysterious heavenly scent; but figured christmas was approaching and I'd have time and there would be good sales around. I obsessed over this fragrance constantly smelling it whenever I visited a fragrance counter, and within a month of knowing this fragrance I bought the largest 75ml bottle. I feel a little overdressed when I wear it at day time, but sometimes I just cannot resist! I feel like this perfume just fits me. I love this fragrance so much.

I have been looking for a new go to fragrance for years and I have finally found it. I love everything about this fragrance from the opening notes to the last remnents of scent hours later. The shape, weight and colors of the bottle. For me this fragrance is elegant, sophisticated and sexy.

Loving this. It smells best after about 30 minutes or so, once the head's worn off I guess. Also a big fan of the simple-shaped elegant bottle and the pale pink colour of the perfume. The EDT and the EDP smell quite different I think, I bought the EDP after trying both.

Naziabegum08

Light fresh and smells like johnsons baby lotion. Smells of newborn babies, well the edt does :)

bond_girl1979

Well I do enjoy this little number. Bit of a dark name, but oh well. It has a dark, sensuality about it, that strikes through the heart notes and lingers with an intense presence. It has pretty good longevity and average sillage. Givenchy in terms of catwalk/runway gear,is absolutely stylish and femme. The frags, on the other hand, have a tendency to be a bit hit and miss over the years. This one stands out to me, it has presence and mystery all at the same time. I get patchouli as the dominant note, although it is not listed as a dominant note, but I can also smell the tonka bean shining through. I think this is best suited to a mysterious woman, with a gothic edge and a dark side. Pale skin, dark hair, black nails and a peeking of lace.

AUNZBOX

I bought a sample EDP 5ML, but it stays very closed to my skin like EDC. Simple not complex, very boring scent and chemical headache and far from natural. I think people will forget it soon. So sad Givency house create perfume for quantities not the quality. Now i want to return to year 1996 for Organza Givenchy, the precious time for their perfume.

PS: in the data base it said Chypre Group but it not ,it should be Aquatic Floral instead.

I find Dailia Noir and well balnsed perfume.it has two sides an fresh light and an heavyer one.
THe opening is attractive and i like dry down.i think because it is a bit sexie.
I feel good with this so if you want to give your sample or dalia noir away please to me!!.

Olia_Aroma

The ad is really great, it made me want to try this perfume. "Dahlia Noir"... Judgind by the name and the ad, I expected it to be slightly odd and offbeat, definitely strong and characterful. And what do we get? It's not bad at all, BUT it's not enough - too weak, too general, too shy... You are not "noir" enough, Dahlia.

sally.west1

Received a tester of this today and WOW! When I first applied the juice it didn't impress me that much - very pleasant and womanly, warm and soft floral powdery chypre - but my oh my! An hour later it smells totally divine! So desirable but in a classy way - this is mysterious and different - and so much stronger on drydown than on application. Really want a bottle of this magical stuff - gorgeous! I get a hint of citrus on my skin but mostly powdery delight - somehow old school but not old fashioned - superb!

katierichardson

This smelt okay at first but after a while it started to remind me of baby nappys.

carmencita

Who made this wonderful scent? I' m in love with.

Habanita

I thought that this is quite nice but not overwhelming or outstanding.

Whit

I was not impressed by this one at all, but I seldom am with Givenchy's frags. When I tested it, I got nothing but citrus! No powder, no woods, just plain ole citrus. So disappointing given it's namesake; there's nothing "noir" about it. I really hate to give a bad review on a perfume, but this one didn't do anything for me at all. I dont understand the hype surrounding it, but we all have our different tastes. So sad, because I thought this one might change my mind. Oh well...

HLVTCA09

Okay, so i just walked through the perfume store today, looking for a new Going-out scent. I tried several fragrances (mostly the same as always) and as i wanted to leave the store I came past the "New In" section. I grabbed the dahlia noir bottle, not expecting anything special or overwhelming, sprayed i on my wrist and *BOOM*. i grabbed a box of the scent and bought it! right away!

It is such a powdery, soft, balmy scent it is soo lovely. Kinda falls into one section with euphoria in my opinion, but muuuch more smooth, nothing sharp at all, quite warm and soothing.

I sprayed it on and it feels like silk touching my skin. I absolutely love how it melts in with my skin.

Will DEFINITELY buy the full size when i am out of this one <3

gigiletta

powdery and comfortable, like sleeping on the further bed.i think it is not sexy but very feminen and classy, maybe not unique but got its personality.at the hot weather smells hair spray a bit.but i like it,perfect for iris-powdery lovers.
edit:very longlasting on me

meral

Very elegant, classy and refined. Very contrary to all stereotype perfumes in the market. One must be familiar with all predominant perfumes and their vibes in order to appreciate this beauty. I am happy with increasing negative reviews. For me they are indicative of this perfumes high value.
