Another dupe of Perles De Lalique

rasteria

On me it smells exactly like Ume by Keiko Micheri, it’s fruity (plum) with distinct patchouli and some suede. Amazing! Smells much more expensive than it is. A safe blind buy for those who love fruitchoulies with some vintage vibe.
PS, the most prominent note is osmanthus

Rssr

Nice delicate aroma, a bit peppery/spicy mixed with floral notes (I could even say more greenish than floral) good for spring. I can sense a very light sweetness, powdery vanilla in the base, after 3h or so, which is very pretty and comfortable, but also so very weak :((( I'll see how it would perform in 3-4 months, but at the moment is too weak to even enjoy it. Overall is a pretty, very safe, dare I say perfume, office friendly, good for any occasion really.

No resemblance to Epic whatsoever 😀

LE: I hate the bottle :/

Oriandre

What a beautiful composition in an elegant bottle! Tender and gently spiced, like a Christmas gingerbread. To my nose, it's almost a twin brother to Furiosa by Fendi, perhaps a bit less peppery. Also less long-lasting, unfortunately. But given the affordable price, you can double the dose without too much remorse.

MiruB

The second I smelled, I thought Perles de Lalique and LL Si Lolita. It's a mix between the two, it has the same patchouli as the former and the big blast of pink baies and mandarin of the latter.
Plum and incence accompany the spicy patchouli in the dry down. I can definitely imagine it worn by a man.
I paid €16 for it, similar for what Perles de Lalique can be found online. I will most likely wear it once my current bottle of Si Lolita is gone.

Nobody is perfect so sometimes even Fragrantica gets some misinformation on fragrances, case in point Piece Unique by Gres. I have an original vial sample on it's original card and this is NOT a unisex scent at all. It is for women. In fact the copy on the card says, and I quote "Piece Unique is the fragrance standing for Gres' ultimate pursuit: the search for the ideal dress. A figure hugging work of art. Ingredients; Mandarin, Pink pepper, jasmine, davana, suede leather accords, white musk.." I actually smell all those notes in it and find it spicy, sexy, classy yet fun. It's a sophisticated scent that can be had for a steal and makes a statement. The suede accord makes me envision a very elegant and stunningly beautiful woman in an exquisite gown, figure hugging as described, in a soft creamy color sort of like the box for this perfume only a little paler, sitting on a plush champagne colored suede tufted couch in a the lobby of a 5 star hotel waiting for her date which is likely some dignitary or mogul. It's a beautiful fragrance that can't be carried off by everyone.

iuliagabriela

Spicy-sweet, herbal patchouli, and for the 15$ I paid for it, an absolute steal. I haven't tried Epic, so I can't comment on the similarities, but it does remind me of YSL Elle - though I do like this one much better, it really could pass as a niche scent and be sold for 10x the price. In my opinion, it's right up there with Lalique - Encre Noire in terms of price/quality ratio. A hidden gem.

Ambrenuit

One of the most beautiful fragrances ever created. It should be unisex, but to me it is clearly feminine. It is beautifully sweet, spicy and herbal, really unique. The intoxicating wonderful scent of tangerines, plums, jasmine spiced with pink and black pepper and incense based on leather and patchouli. A charming and unique composition. Beautiful and delicate, sweet, herbal chypre. I also bought a perfumed body cream to intensify the scent and durability. The scent is simply STUNNING and very French. Different from today's regular fragrances. Using this, I can be sure that I won't meet anyone who smells like me. I am absolutely in love with the Grés perfume house and I feel like it really doesn't get enough attention. Their perfumes are much more refined, more original than the mainstream that is being pushed at us from all shops.

la Maga

This is a very special fragrance offering from the house of Gres, a hidden gem with niche quality as others have already stated…
It does resemble Amouage Epic in the dry-down.
It is amazingly spicy in the opening, it evolves nicely (it’s not linear at all which makes this fragrance a great buy), not sweet, very subtle, with a pinch of incense and musk.
Grab it if you can find it…

I will have to let this one rest, and ease into trying it on my skin bc at first sniff of the first spray into the box, after receiving it, I get a beast straight outta the 80s and I'm a little terrified. The pepper and musk are so overpowering, I can't detect the orange, plum, or jasmine. After a bit, I do detect suede and incense, but still none of the sweetness this scent desperately needs to take the bitingly disturbing edge off the darkest notes. Half an hour later, I find Piece lingering, arid and charred, on the mucous membranes in my nose. It makes me want to grab the saline spray to clear it out.

I blind bought this one based on reviews here, and in particular bc someone said it smells like Dune (a favorite of mine) at a fifth of the price. I'm not finding it at all similar, unfortunately. I'll update after I manage to find the balls to try this one out.

EDIT... Welp, I threw in the towel, forfeited the game...whatever metaphor you want to use to describe the fact that I just wasn't woman enough to face this one. I ventured a small spray on one wrist and gave it 30 seconds before I scrubbed it bc I was so terrified by what was happening. The only other time that's happened was with Attaquer le Soleil by ELDO (see my review if you're curious). Piece Unique is my new boogeyman.

Amber Plokchouli

This is one of the most beautiful fragrances I’ve ever smelled. It’s delicate, mysterious and wild all at once.

The first time I tried it, straight out of the box, I got an overwhelming barnyard smell, straight up like manure. Don’t write it off if you get that the first time, when I tried it again a few wells later it was absolutely stunning. Fragrances often need some time to settle after the first use, and this is one of them.

The imago in my mind when I wear that is off a woman in a classic novel. She’s like the typical Jane Austen heroine type, a beauty a La Keira Knightley in a crisp white dress. The girl who’s gorgeous and elegant, but doesn’t quite fit in entirely. She’s reserved yet somewhat wild for the time. The kind that runs barefoot through a meadow, cheeky strands of hair peeking out from under her bonnet.
It makes me think of that scene from Lady Chatterly’s lover, where they both undress and chase each other naked in the rain. It’s both beautiful and melancholy.

I see people calling it dark, but to me it’s not really dark. It’s more.. stormy, or rainy.. emotional and melancholy rather than sultry or sensual. At the same time it has a lightness. It’s rainy, but a summer or early fall rain. It’s the kind of rain that makes you want to dance in it rather than hide inside and cuddle up. And even though you’re dancing in the rain, and running barefoot through the grass, there’s still this Jane Austen novel kind of elegance. The kind of elegance that feels like it’s from another era, but is entirely timeless at the same time. This fragrance is so nostalgic and melancholy it almost hurts. The only other fragrance that invokes such strong emotions in me is Mitsouko.. what a gem!

I personally like the bottle and think it suits the fragrance in it’s strangeness. Like other commenters have said it really does look like Offred from the handmaid’s tale. I have not watched the series but have read the book and loves it. Like Jane Austen’s heroine (who happens to also wear a bonnet in my mind) Offred is the rebellious woman who’s also still conforming to the societal norms of her time. Written as a form of science fiction in a different era the novel too feels frozen in time yet timeless at the same time. Idk I feel like it fits in a weird way.

It also makes me think of the song You look like Rain by Morphine.

Anyway I’m aware I have said absolutely nothing that actually describes the scent itself.. I’ll leave a review doing that when I’m actually wearing it :)

Nocciola23

This is such a beautiful scent. It's dark, peppery and spicy with an aniseed kick to it. It's very similar to Amouage Epic - which is a real masterpiece, but costs an arm and a leg.
Piece Unique is gorgeous but relatively short lived. It's definitely a scent for cooler weather.

Let's talk about the bottle - no idea what they were thinking! This is a moody, mysterious and dark scent which doesn't fit with the bottle at all.

Scented Teacher

Oh dear. I thought I'd love this just from the base notes alone. No. No way. Heavy, sickly, weird smelling just utterly cloying. Reminds me of Russian detergent and Molton Brown peppercorn soap but not as nice.
Wouldn't recommend blind buying...my mistake!

Biljana Prijovic Milovano

This parfume, should be named Nirvana. That's how I feel, smelling this fragrance on my skin. Calming, gorgeous..

discoqueen

Just got this as a blind buy. What a GEM! It's crazy a perfume this quality can cost 25$, when it's completely comparable to a 250$ one. I bought it expecting something in the vibe of Bottega Venetta original or Sensuous Nude by Estee Lauder, but it's less leathery and sweeter on my skin. The heart reminds me a lot of Guerlain Cuir Beluga, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative for CB. CB is obviously more sweet and vanillic, while Piece Unique is drier and a little more musky. The opening is very peppery but it goes away after 15 minutes. Lalique de Lalique also comes to mind.
Overall great quality, a good sweet amber plum and a musk patchouli drydown. I don't smell the jasmine.

SweetJhane

This perfume is beautiful. It and Madame Gres particularly embody for me the best qualities of the House. Refined, elegant, understated, original, and consistently high quality. The opening of Piece Unique is peppery orange that is immediately tempered by very pretty musk. I also get a strong sandalwood that could be the incense, which is not burned. The plum adds depth and interest. I detect it and the orange throughout. The suede is distinct but soft and the drydown is lovely, powdery, sweet musk. It’s not listed, but I also get very light vanilla. The patchouli is a rich supporting player, not noticeable except for its effect. Longevity is 10+ hours if I overspray and radiates about arm’s length. I really love this one! It may not be groundbreaking or earth-shattering in the way that those terms are most often applied, but I don’t have anything that smells like Piece Unique and as these qualities become ever more rare, I think that refinement, understatement, elegance, originality, and high quality can be groundbreaking in their own right.

Gyps

Very nice. Great price point. Weird bottle.

Edit: Came back to this tonight after a year and wow 🤩
Stunning fragrance that’s musky, ambery, powdery, dreamy and more. Really loving it and I hope it lasts on my skin (which is very perfume thirsty). Beautiful 😍

Biljana Prijovic Milovano

Deep like universe, pure like an angel. This is scent of God 's love. Relaxing meditation scent, unique and unisex. Perfect for a spring, but you can enjoy all seasons in this cosmic rhapsody

ajrose

I just received a sample of this. The first spray was a bit screechy and strong on the leather. It was a definite no for me. But I've come back to the paper just 15 minutes later and this is a very lovely musky amber. I love me some musk and I love me some amber. I may just have to try this on my skin and report back!

stacia79

I’m laughing at swedishmilk15 saying the bottle looks like Offred because omg yes and that is hilarious!!!

You can tell this is a French perfume because it’s not trying to be all things to all people. With the inclusion of bold notes like artemisia and angelica, you’ll either love this or you won’t. I find it one of the most wearable suedes I’ve encountered. A pepper suede with those interesting herbal liqueur notes. This would make an unforgettable signature for some sexy dark academic.

swedishmilk15

A quiet winner in a really baffling bottle. Looks like Offred in Handmaid's Tale. Do I spray as-is, or am I supposed to remove the ribbon and use the cap in the usual way? No matter; this smells AMAZING, was not expecting that!! The on-skin vs. scent cloud phenomenon mentioned by others is REAL, guys! Plum, angelica, artemisia, clementine, and musk are favorites of mine so this is easy for me to like. Pièce Unique does not smell bitter to me but it's definitely dry. Dune, Diamonds en Rouge, and others come to mind.

I'd class this with "modern Chypres." There's the citrus and patchouli + musk & toss in an herb or two formula. It shares something with Chloe Nomade.

Holli

Definitely interesting. Smokey. Sweet. Clear. I was hoping for more herbaceous vibes, but I get more sand and incense. It has a peaceful feel to it, but not green. Definitely unisex as long as you enjoy some sweetness. A strange little skin scent. Has no resemblance to Midnight Poison imo. Closer to Eternity Flame or Reveal. Gres usually delivers something better than the price suggests and manages to ignore trends. This one certainly does.

Mistress Eva

Gres has been an integral part of my journey into perfume obsession. While not the most sophisticated or "high-end" brand in my collection, many of their fragrances make for excellent daily wear and are generally inoffensive, olfactory mood-enhancers. Piece Unique is an important addition to the perfumery's line-up, filling the niche (the now-defunct) Cabaret once did.

This blend is indeed unique and alluring. It paints a mental image in my mind of a suggestive glance from a sultry 1920s film star --silent, but expressive and promising. Piece Unique can be interpreted many ways; to me it is very sexy and provocative in an understated way. It contains some of the DNA of Cabaret, my former signature scent, if Cabaret had continued to evolve and become more sophisticated. On principle, I think this one has to make it to my top five.

Piece Unique is a scent that tells stories, one that can probably cross multiple genres. For the price, it is worth trying. If you like suede, leather, incense, and peppery scents, but don't want to drown in their heaviness, you may love this one.

Moderate sillage and longevity. Safe for the office in moderation; apply more for the bedroom.
Overall rating so far: 9/10

to me this smells like a very hot day then suddenly it rained.. and the grasses are like dancing with happiness. it smells clean and earthy and grassy.. it is unique. When I was in a catholic school we used to have this latin masses and there would be incense burnings and this perfume reminds me of those days..

maria1106

That is the most strange perfume so far..
A bit sweet, peppery, herbal.. it's nice but the strange thing about it is that i could not sniff it on myself when i put my hand to my nose. BUT i could smell it in the air around me.. as if I was surrounded by a smell, as usually happens when you come out of the shower, there was a cloud around me of this scent.. really strange.
.
Is soft, really soft, but very nice.. I really wish it would be more intense ..Maybe in hot summer days will find a way to bloom..

UnearthlyApothecary

This one is a little disappointing, it’s just sooooo SOFT. The sprayer is the type that I love, the type that emits a fine cloud of scent and I generously sprayed but I have to deeply inhale right where I sprayed my arm to smell anything at all. And yes, what I CAN smell does resemble Lalique Perles. Powder and camphor- patchouli. I would absolutely adore this it it was stronger and I could get MORE. The bitter herbals would be fantastic if I could smell them. Ditto the incense. The suede is barely noticeable. Very sorrowful. C’mon Gres, you can do better then this! I also have to speak on the box that invites you to destroy it by tearing down the perforated lines on the front. Wtf? You can preserve your box by NOT doing this and just opening the top normally :p

UPDATE: several weeks later I gave it another try and I’m so so glad I didn’t just write it off. I agree with maria1106 that while it’s hard to smell it on my skin I CAN smell it around me, I’ll catch little whiffs now and then. And today I’m actually smelling it on my skin when I sniff my arm, very cozy musky suede with a hint of sweetness. Oddly what I smell in whiffs around me is more bitter/herbal. It IS unique that’s for sure!

mirrorghost

the beginning is pink pepper, angelica and orange. the plum comes out shortly thereafter. it kind of smells like a fruity hairspray. however, it's not terrible, just a bit chemical. i do not smell leather or incense AT ALL so the votes are confusing to me, and this is not traditionally masculine at all. in fact i *wish* i smelled more leather in this. it's primarily plum and pink pepper-sweet and spicy.

bleu_canard

Spicy-peppery yet ethereal scent, with an emphasis on suede and musk. The plum creates an autumn mood and adds depth without becoming syrupy. I can also feel the incense and wormwood. On me, it has a soft sillage, my husband has to hug me to feel it, which suits me - I don't need my scent to be loud. I wish it lasted longer, but with my skin chemistry, it disappears within about 2 hours. On clothes, however, it lasts almost all day long.

SissySuzanne

I Love piece unique! I just adore musky and spicy scents and this one makes me drool.

petravesna

Soft sweetish woody smell with grass undertones but this is the weakest perfume I have ever experienced.

The opening reminds me of sweetish burning of high speed sawn wood. Later it develops into sweet smell of decaying green tree ferns, dry wood and a whiff of candy, mint, grass. I believe the angelica and suede are to attribute. After a day of wearing and reapplying 4x during a day I still find it hard to detect the dry down because it vanishes before it develops. It does not even stay on clothes. Shame as it's smell is reminiscent of walking through magical New Zealand tree fern forest and I like its reassuring smell.

spinderella

Where is the leather? I only smell a soft vanilla-like perfume. Maybe it is my Chemistry, but I don't see this as an unisex perfume. Bit dissapointed after all the raving reviews on this one....

Soofiya

It opens spicy, dark, heavy and with a masculine undertone with plum, lots of bitter peppers, patchouli, something spicy/herbal and something balsamic/ambery-woody but soon it softens up a lot to a light musky jasmine wrapped in suede which is soft, feminine, chic and reminds me Bottega veneta legere which is among my top favorites
To be honest I'm impressed.each Gres perfume that I try makes me like this brand more and more.I can see that refinement and class in piece unique too.it mixes well with my skin chemistry to create a soft but longlasting scent.my only complaint is that it has great sillage when first sprayed but as it's lovely musky jasmine-suede shows up it's sillage reduces to soft to moderate.I can smell it on my skin for +7 hours but close to skin.this feature plus it's formal, sophisticated scent make it a good choice for office wear and job meetings
I like it but now that I have a full bottle of Bottega veneta legere and Rihanna Rogue I won't run to buy it but I'd go I will have it in my wantlist until finishing them
P.s:final drydown is a creamy suede which a touch of Musk powder,it smells devine and stronger than it's light middle notes.well I may buy it sooner than what I planned first.I have to wait for another sale so that I can pickup a 50mil for 35$

hagertygal

Is this nice? Yes. Is this groundbreaking? No. Is it worthy of a 35 dollar price tag? Yes. Is it worthy of a backup bottle? No.

The scent is soft, musky, a leathery plum. I am not certain if I would market this as unisex though. It is certainly NOT masculine, even with the leathery scent. It is more of a creamy suede.

The bottle however is GORGEOUS! Technically, there is no cap, you put your finger through the opening and spray. The spray comes out evenly and in full force and a VERY big stream!

My only huge complaint is the box it is in. It "peels down" in the front to open it and get the bottle out. I like to keep my perfumes stored in their boxes, and for this one, it is not possible.

kellbell73

Woody, spicy, plummy goodness! Mimics Organza Indecence on both my skin and that of my best male friend, after about 5 minutes of straight amber. The only thing missing that would make it completely identical, is the cuddly vanilla. Still completely gorgeous. And half the price.

matillyrose

This fragrance is for men and women. What I find interesting about this fragrance is that it contains Davana.

Davana is a herb grown in India. Every day the flowering blooms are offered at the altar of Shiva and every evening they are removed. The blooms are then dried for a week and an oil is produced using steam distillation.

The uniqueness of Davana is that it smells different on every person. It can be woody, floral, spicy, green, balsamic or a mixture of some or all.

When Davana is added to perfume it imparts a blackcurrant note with an undertone of hay and a fruity, slight tobacco aroma.

With the added notes of Citrus, herbal Angelica, Pepper, Jasmine, Plum and a sultry base of Musk, Suede, Incense and Patchouli. It produces something quite opulent that can be worn by either sex.

It was Madame Gres's quest in her lifetime to produce something truly unique for each and every person. I think House Gres may have come close in perfecting that quest in rememberance of her.
