Great cologne for a cheap price, just the dry down is very quick

ashroloie

Literally just sprayed this on my hand and it smells fantastic already. Its definitely a scent for the summer. Doubt it lasts a long time but its fresh and a little bubblegum sweet almost. It's definitely a compliment getter. Well worth a purchase even it only ends up having average longevity.

bierhaus

Hugo "Man" isn't nearly as good or the same as Hugo by Hugo Boss before they changed the box. Really quite disappointing. The new stuff smells much more synthetic, the opening is very sweet (hate) which the original didn't have, barely lasts a couple hours, and never has the impact or depth the original had. So sad.

The "Extreme" version isn't a replacement for the original either in smell or performance. Everything has gone to shit.

Both "Man" and "Extreme Man" cause me anosmia fairly quickly as well.

Hi Guys 👋
I recently picked this fragrance up, and I think I am now ready to write my review of this scent
Starting with presentation:
The bottle design is minimalist, but easily recognizable as a Hugo fragrance, It feels suprisingly high quality and atomizer is quite impressive for the price.
The scent:
Starts off very nice and fresh, with slightly spicy, aromatic, fresh apple notes.
The opening fades quickly though, and the fragrance transforms into a still quite light but more woody scent, with on my skin, a slight touch of smoke and gorgeous pine.
As time moves on, the lavender srarts to move forward and brings a very pleasant, fresh almost soapy feeling with it.
The scent won't blow anyone away, but it sure is somewhat unique, and interesting (not very complex though).
Performance:
I get 4-5 Hours on my skin, with medium to intimate projection. The slight sillage trail smells very pleasant ☺.
Who should wear this, and when?
This fragrance is more suited for younger guys, age 16 to 24, no younger than than 15 though, since it has a slightly more masculine, mature feeling to it.
I personally think this is well suited for every season. Great everyday, signature scent option.
Summary:
Great fresh, woody masculine scent for younger men and excellent for everyday wear.
I think it's great value for the money as well!
Blind buy worthy!

Hope this helped 🙏

iamaswede_

I love this fragrance as a younger guy on a budget. It kind of emanates the type of mature, calming guy I want to be. The apple note starting off is a little strong/spicy, but not nearly enough to throw me off from appreciating it. It settles down relatively quickly into this nice, fresh aromatic scent that I love. It’s not loud enough to wear it really just annoys people, but they will notice it sooner or later. In a good way, of course.

It’s outstanding for the price and it’s so easy to wear, and I just am really thankful I did my research and found this. Highly recommend for a cheap everyday fragrance. My favorite as well.

Elliptah

Been wearing this as an everyday fragrance and it does the job wonderfully. Man has some great apple tones then after a while it settles down to a nice woody pine scent. It's definitely suited to more summery weather but it's up to you when you wear it.

This is one of the perfumes that I buy it for a very very long time, as it started my desire to buy something else other than that what I was used to.
It' s very fresh, citrus, very teenager' ish towards early 20' s. It' s young. It' s not that complex, it's just there, fresh, not very mature. The notes and ingredients transition harsh in between themselves, and at some point the alcohol started smelling even more (later production batches- maybe that's why the harshness) .
Projection- mediocre
On my skin it doesn't last 2 hours (in the summer even 1 hour) . On my clothes around 4 hours.
I have to put 5 sprays of it

As a starter, OK quality perfume, I recommend it (but maybe it's just cause of the sentimental value)
It' s generic, benign, without character or complexity.

Chris6815

I received a sample of this and compared it to a sample of Gucci Guilty and Hugo Boss won because of smell and performance. I enjoy the scent. It’s definitely masculine and the performance is above average. I believe you could wear this all year long. It’s also a solid value option/ low price. Probably a good office scent/ gym, etc.

Brender

Smells like very synthetic pine, and for me it just stinks, like wet dog. Back when I got it I thought it was fine, and the people who smelt it around me thought it was good. But I guess I just think pine smells bad now, especially when it's so synthetic.

Plus the gimmicky cap BROKE, the plastic snapped. I mean come on, that's a total dealbreaker!

Synth_Lord

While admittedly synthetic, the opening is very crisp and nostalgic. Lasts a decently long time and for an affordable fragrance is one of my biggest compliment getters. Great and affordable daily scent with broad appeal, perfect for the office, classroom, errands, etc.

WizeRacoon

Normally not a fan of Hugo Boss scents. I actually got this one gifted, otherwise I would have never bought it. However, over the wearings I have given it, I would be lying if I said it isn't growing on me.

Let's get one thing out of the way. It isn't anything special. If you want an unique, blows you out of the park, fragrance this is not it.

What is it? Simple, elegant, fresh, masculine, easy daily wear around the non-freezing months.

And you know what. Whilst standard, it is actually rather nice and refined.

Ed_Lanz

I really like this one, it’s a really pleasant fragrance to wear, it’s fresh and classy at the same time, my favorite option to wear at the office on warm days. The note I can notice the most is pine, and the apple in the opening, but the rest of notes do a great job on making this fragrance feel clean and sophisticated. The only problem is the performance; the projection is moderate and it lasts only around 4-6 hours, so I would go a bit heavy on the sprays, as it is anyway pretty inoffensive and it’s unlikely it will bother anyone.

This is very nice. I think it's the lavender that makes it. It doesn't list sweet but I find it slightly so and definitely masculine. It's not unique but it's one most everyone will like and safe to wear anywhere. You could blind buy this or give it as a gift. I found the longevity to be excellent, 10+ hours it was still quite noticeable. Sillage is just right, not too much or little.

Raihan213

this is the best fragrance I had at my collection I recommend you guys to buy blind this but I don't recommend if a 10-14yr wear this fragrance I recommend to wear at age 15-20+

RedHerring

This was my dad’s daily driver through the 90s and early 2000s. I seem to remember the green apple in the opening being brighter and juicier. I have to say I was slightly disappointed, though it’s still pleasant enough.

meltybutter

The original was my go-to fragrance in highschool, and this brings me right back to those times! It's extremely nostalgic for me, so I'm probably pretty biased here.
This is a wonderfully fresh, brisk scent. Outdoorsy, but without any dark earthy tones some more modern "outdoorsy" fragrances can have. Excellent for those who want something simple, straightforward, and clean, but outside the usual showergel type scents that dominate those adjectives.

monsieur.moustache

This is a pine bomb. An outdoorsy daytime fragrance. Not extremely elegant / sophisticated, but okay for casual occasions.

IA2023

Very weak performance. The reformulation of the EDT is terrible (vs the former "Hugo"). It was a great scent, what a shame.
In a matter of minutes, it reaches the bottom notes and smells just like incense.

The awful incense smell stays even after washing my hands.
I ordered it based on the former "Hugo", expecting it to be as good as it was.

Des0318

Not much apple, more on green and lavender, reminded me of hugo xy those days.

geon

Really love this, takes me back to 90s when I used to spray it whenever i could find a bottle, no money to buy one for myself. This is very close to the OG. I really enjoy the opening, so fresh.

Marinka71

Hey y'all. A review from someone who is really picky when it comes to male scents. There's very few I actually like.
I just *love* this on my husband. It is so pleasant and comforting, fresh and lovely, discreet, unpretentious and at the same time sophisticated. Not perfumey, not loud nor in your face.

Judging by listed notes, I should not be a huge fan, but it just works, it's really well blended.
Well done Hugo Boss. 🥰

If I could wish something a little different, that would be a hint of something discreetly bitter to add depth and to balance it more out, give a bit more character. I suggest laurels. 🌿

boffin1979

You simply cannot go wrong. Masculine but women can wear just to smell nice. Blind-buy worthy!

Charlie_Fragrance

Does anybody know the difference between this and the old Hugo Hugo Boss?

TheRefinedGentleman

This is my signature scent for a reason, I remember first smelling the body spray of this scent in Walgreens, and when I sprayed and smelt it something clicked and I bought the exact same day, this scent is weird it's classic but new, it's unique but still manages to be appealing, and it's great for any occasion anytime in my opinion it's a scent you don't even have to debate about wearing it's a dumb reach, in conclusion this is a masterpiece fragrance that smells magnificent and is a classic that anyone can wear 10/10

magnificoo

Fresh perfume with woody and aromatic notes. Works in all weathers. Easy to like.

XOXO_marcel

Very sweet, probably from the lavender. The drydown smells like pancakes with syrup. I like it and think it would be a safe blind buy, but it might be a little too unisex for some men.

Ryan Neil

I just picked this up today..... Took a shower with Native unscented body wash and put this on my right wrist.

Opening is great and smells amazingly fresh; smells great from the bottle as well. The dry down, for me, is quite strange.
If I do like a quick passing smell, it smells good, but if I hold on it and get too close..... you ever gone fishing and catch a bass to then hold it by the mouth to throw it back in the lake, then like 2 hours later after you've done fishing for the day you smell your thumb and have like a faint linger of bass smell? That's what I get.

I like it initially when first sprayed..... not a fan of the dry down obviously.

Kelownafornia

I remember smelling the OG back in the day and was hooked, the remake is just as good and keeps that same DNA. Not in my top frags but definitely has a place in my heart.

Lee257

Very nice pine wood with a whiff of apple that comes and goes.
This is a timeless men's scent that can be worn everywhere from work to the club, would be better in summer but wouldn't be astray on a mild winter day either

dabatch

original, timeless, versatile.

Total blind buy and worth every penny. Great fragrance for the warmer months! Great value too!

Tmanarl

Never had the original as a youth but always wanted it. Saw a bottle of this on the shelf at CVS yesterday and did a blind buy. I'm currently wearing it and it is exactly as I remember. Takes me right back to the 90s. This quickly shot up to the top of my favorites list!

EDIT: 2 months later and I have decided this is my signature. Absolute fav!

mitchcraft

I had the original Hugo by Hugo and i have to say i think this is a lot better even though they are very similar. The sweet apple comes through a lot more and even though i am not a huge fan of spiced scents like Cerrutti 1881 for men which makes me think of old man fragrances, there is just enough spice in this to compliment the sweetness of the apple. I do like sweet spicy scents like SpiceBomb Extreme and Infrared as a reference. The pine is also toned down a lot imo compared to the original Hugo.

I don't know what the person below me got, a fake maybe? lol. I got mine from USC so it's definitely real.

I will admit when i first got it i was expecting the exact same as the OG as this was being sold as a replacement of the OG but that seems to be gone from the description now and was a little upset at first when it wasn't exactly the same as it has a lot of fond memories of holidays abroad tied to it but as i said above i now actually prefer it so maybe it just needs time for it to grow on people expecting the OG. As for people new to the scent, if you like fresh, sweet apple i think you will enjoy this. I think this is more with the times and is probably why they changed it up. They are maybe smelling the pine come through more in their batch which i could understand being a little off putting at first but in mine it's definitely more of a lightly spiced, sweet apple scent that the pine and fir perfectly compliments which i love.

When i first got it i actually would feel a little bit of a head rush that would wake me up in the morning, that's how refreshingly fresh this is. The more i use this each time the more i pick up the sweetness of it rather than the piney smell i first picked up on when i first got it and the head rush has gone.

Sillage is good as is longevity and the prices always seem to be very good. USC usually has the 200ml reduced on sale for roughly £45

I don't have any other scents like it but want more tbh as i am getting a little fed up of the Le Male and Joop L Homme thick scents that leave me feeling like i have a thick fog surrounding my head. This is lighter but doesn't sacrifice strength or performance.

I hate having to spray scents on clothes to add to longevity as this means your clothes are going to smell of whatever scent you wear at that time until you wash or change clothes and who wants to have to do that every time you wish to change scents? I'd rather i can just have a quick wash or shower and that way if the clothes i have had on all day don't have thr scent stuck to them and i feel like wearing a different scent at night i can go ahead and do so but if my clothes are covered in it then i need to look out a new set and wash what could be an already freshly washed set of clothes that day before the scent is removed!

Scents should be good enough to spray on skin and decide on where and the amount without going overboard to be able to enjoy it on yourself or if you want depending on setting for others to enjoy if out on a date or chilling with friends and this is a good scent for that. The 4 spay routine of 2 on the front of your neck and 2 behind your ears gives you at least 5+hrs of a linear constant smell from start to finish unlike some scents where you need to respray to enjoy a few hours or less after initial spray where you only get occasional whiffs on yourself here and there. Hugo Man definitely doesn't have that problem. If going out in a clubbing environment the 7 spray routine would work well with this to project even more.

I think this can be worn at any time as the sweet apple thrives in the cold crisp air of fall and winter and it would be more than fresh enough to wear in summer.

You can get smaller bottles and if i can get a 200ml for £45 i am sure people will find the smaller amounts for even less.

I was 18 when i wore the OG and i love this even more now at 42 and i like scents pushed for all ages.

Give it a go, i think you will find you will like it :)

nattonline

It looks like it would be an aquatic scent but its not. Freshness is there but rather woody and strong. It smells like on someone and I’m sure it’d smell nice on me but it’s not something I’d go for personally. A bit too much of that woody aftershave mature masculinity in here.

xdreamsandflamesx

smelled this on a guy friend (it's his signature) - and it's actually one of the most interesting scents I've smelt on a guy. memorable and somewhat unique (imo it's the green apple) yet it's still inoffensive and a crowd-pleaser. wood was definitely the most prominent note, followed closely by that apple top note which stays throughout. these two are smoothed out by a little lavender and the fresh spiciness from the fir note is scattered through. I swear I picked up a pretty strong leather note too, although it's not listed here. this scent definitely has personality, but it's still approachable, and office/school safe. I'd imagine it would be pretty versatile for all seasons/weather too (smelt it on my friend in very hot weather late in the afternoon and it seemed to be holding up pretty well). overall, from a female pov (although this scent is pretty unisex & I could definitely see women rocking it too), I definitely like it and would think any guy wearing this would be pretty cool!

FragDaddy

Hugo Man
To my nose it smells like a Smokey woody bubblegum, just super fresh and non offensive.
Longevity and projection is good and for $26 for 75ml at chemist warehouse its a blind buy.
not my type of scent though..
6/10

NL_Meduza

Not my type of scent! I don't get the hype at all, smells like a 5-in-1 shower gel type. I can only see people 40+ wearing this.

MattFragrence

A classic, and as someone building up their collection I will definitely be buying this gem again if i ever run out, perfect for warm seasons super nice, fresh, and at a great price worth a buy for sure.

Sergiogacopuma

This fragrance is a classic that never disappoint me. I could wear it formal or informal. Very versatile.

Chaselark

Originally bought the OG in the 90's & just finished a bottle of Blue Cedar & Cypress Cremo (terrific) which shares the same main accords and is strikingly very similar to the OG and so in a reflective moment I wanted to order it to have this scent profile in my collection. I bought a 6.7 oz of the OG on clearance online supercheap - and they sent me "Man", this new version. It's been a while since I had the OG but I can't tell the difference. I've always known this to be a sure shot crowd pleaser for any age. That Cremo frag is the only other frag I've ever come across that made me think of the OG, which is smoother and has more dimensions of notes than Cremo BC & C - but they're interestingly very similar. Check the accords here on Fragrantica and you'll see what I mean.

Troy Perkins

Recently bought a big 200ml bottle of this for a cheap £38 from Superdrug, it’s exactly the same as the old mid 90s Hugo but Coty have again ruined it, even with 10 sprays it just disappears to a skin scent after only 90 mins. Still smells of the synthetic green apple with lavender and fir but with such a pathetic projection and longevity it’s a real shame. My buddy at university in 97 rocked this and wore it to campus plus bars and clubs. I know it’s 2022 now but forget about wearing this weak version to a club, you couldn’t impress anyone in a supermarket now with it being so watered down.

TheRefinedGentleman

My favorite cologne of all time and signature scent and great value, for me it last pretty long especially on my clothes and a good fresh fragrance you can't go wrong with

yoss

I love this fragrance. "Fresh out of the shower " concentrate in one bottle.
Ultra fresh, sporty, aromatic, sour, juicy, effervescent and really strong.
This is swiss army knife not only for younger men.
Fruity green apple with herbals and a little bit woody.
Price is really good.
I dont understant this low rating on fragrantica. :(

Hugo Man Hugo Boss (2021) .. Just bought blind and it smells just like Hugo by Hugo Boss 1995, before it was reformulated 😍 £38 .. 200ml from a department store here in the UK .. I still have half a bottle of the Hugo by Hugo Boss that was reformulated, but didn't use it that much .. didn't like it .. bought all my old memories back .. 😍😍 ..

knightlore

The perfume shop said that Hugo Boss - Hugo Man is the same as the OG and the only difference is the packaging and bottle design .. 🤔🤔

FragrancedAddy

I got this fragrance as a gift and it’s surprisingly the fragrance that has got me the most complements. I love the opening apple note! I don’t really smell the lavender accord. I love this fragrance, I just wish the performance was better. Not very long lasting

caifan

Hugo Man is an aromatic, fresh and woody fragrance.

This version seems to be an update of the classic Hugo fragrance. When I smelled it I immediately felt the DNA of the original fragrance, although it seems to me that it has been polished a bit, as it feels less harsh than the original. Its aroma is very pleasant, for those who know the original it could be said that its aroma is almost the same, it is based on lavender, mint, wood and pine, although in this Hugo Man the apple note is less prominent.

Hugo Man is a versatile fragrance, it can be used in any situation and at any time of the year. In fact, it could well be a signature fragrance, and surely those who have used the original will like it.

In longevity it lasted more than 9 hours and with good sillage the first two hours.

For those who like the classic Hugo, this may be a blind buy.

Kelownafornia

Updated version of the classic, loved the OG this one is pretty close and for me performs better than expected with my skin. Not the OG but definitely one of my office frags. 7/10

CreepyKid

I actually paid for the original Hugo Boss but was sent this lackluster flanker fragrance instead. On the initial spray it smells like a wet dog and some super artificial pine. No apple or aromatic accords to speak of, just kind of gross honestly. On the dry down it's only a faintly woody note but you have to press your nose against your skin to even detect anything. This lasts maybe 10 minutes which is a good thing because the opening is awful. Apparently online stores can't tell the difference between HUGO MAN and the real deal Hugo Boss from the 90s. I hate to be so harsh but this is absolutely atrocious with no redeeming qualities what so ever. If you're looking for the original find it at a brick and mortar because you'll probably get sent this instead.

LatinLova

I have the original version and the extreme. I got this because I wanted that same masculine scent but modernized. Unfortunately, the performance is trash. At least on me. The OG and extreme I can smell it for hours without even trying. This one, 4 hours and a half and I can’t even detect it.

Jmac88

Hugo was my first cologne back in the 00s. Wore it all through high school. Saw this the other day and decided to pick it up, smells as great as I remember it. I didn’t know this is a different version than the original but it smells the same to me.

Vapor Trail

Not sure why this exists. Smells identical to Hugo Extreme but with worse performance. Nothing to see here.

cobos243

it smells like the soap i use to shave, and it does not last after being sprayed in my jacket, my cousin bought it I dont know why would he buy that.

TurkiAlturki

A fresh and simple fragrance that works well for the daytime. It's very synthetic but it's still appealing and non offense. I like it.

Rhysnnac

An underated scent

sameenuk

Quite good. I sprayed this on after a run and shower. And initially I thought I like this because I recognise the Boss notes. But then it faded and I thought nothing of it. Just smelling the drydown now a few hours later and it is very sumptuous, very Brut like masculine, woody but also slightly soapy. Definitely good value. Scent isn't particularly complex

julianernesto

😲I just purchased Hugo Man Hugo Boss for men (released 2021) after my original bottle from the late 1990's went rancid and had to throw away. I have to tell you this is a much better version from the original. You can really smell the lavender, apple and woody notes equally. I walked by local Macy's dept. store and noticed the bigger bolder letters on the tester bottle I asked the sales lady if the fragrance maker redesigned the bottle? She mentioned this was a new denser version of the 1995 original version. I wanted to do a test spray before I bought it and I said to myself "This is what the original version should have been like." Now that cosmetics giant COTY owns HUGO BOSS fragrances they're probably going to make more flankers of the original....WHY NOT. 🤷♂️😮

Arkhamal

As for the notes other than the woody notes, they disappear almost as soon as you spray it. Maybe about 2 minutes and the smell of lavender and apple become secondary to non-existent. (Not necessarily a bad thing)

If you like woody scents, then this would be alright. You can certainly smell the woody notes. Although, against other woody fragrances, I wouldn't be so sure about how this holds up. In comparison to woody notes in other fragrances, the notes here are relatively mild in many ways. It's mostly bitter, but not the most bitter woody scent I've smelt. The woody notes aren't sweet, but the subdued lavender lifts the wood in a way that gives it a slight sweetness. Very slight.

Performance depends on your angle of assessment. For me, it does not perform too well since the apple and lavender disappear too quickly. Though the woody notes remain for quite some hours. No longer than 4 hours altogether, however. So, not too big on performance.

Above was my observation. My opinion is what follows. I think this flanker (as that is what I understand it to be) appeals to people who like the smell of wood in a way that is more mild than other woody fragrances. I personally prefer the original Hugo. Though that is a matter of taste, isn't it? Still, I can't say this would be great as a woody scent among other woody perfumes. I'm not personally a fan of fragrances centered around wood, after all.

My recommendation: Smell it first before buying and you'll understand what I mean with the woodiness. Smell it on skin. The other notes stick better on paper. Give it a minute or two and you will know what it will smell like for the next 4 to 5 hours. If you like it, then go ahead.

Jtonmobile

This is pretty good for the price. I get a woody, lavender, aromatic, fruity, fresh spicy scent. Great for the summertime or anytime of year. I like it

Just blind bought it, because it was on special online. I like it, but it certainly doesn’t project green Apple as a top note or a strong lavender either. The base is definitely woody, but not strongly pine. It definitely hangs around, but in a positive way. I’d wear it in an office setting. I’m going to wait a month or two and the revisit my review.
