Un Jardin en Méditerranée by Hermès is a Floral Aquatic fragrance for women and men. Un Jardin en Méditerranée was launched in 2003. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Ellena. Top notes are Bergamot, Lemon and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Orange Blossom and White Nerium Oleander; base notes are Fig Leaf, Cypress, Red Cedar, Juniper, Pistachio and Musk.

Un Jardin en Méditerranée: conceived as a watercolour, this perfume, composed in 2003 is inspired by a hint of the poetic in the Tunisian garden of Leïla Menchari (Director of displays for Hermès). Like a travel journal, it evokes that paradise-like universe of shade, water and light, based on the theme of a fig tree in the morning and Mediterranean citrus.

I really love this scent. Sadly, it is gone after 2h.

George-sable

Best scent of the jardin collection.
While it's unisex it's slightly more masculine, BUT not "shocking" to smell on a woman.
Very citrusy but the bergamot is definitely here.
Perfect for summer, may be out of place in winter.
A perfume for someone mature and intelligent but laid back

Saveria

Un Jardin en Méditerranée is a very green perfume, slightly tinged with citrus, slightly spicy (I would even say peppery; probably the juniper berry which gives this effect). It is a very fresh scent, which evokes nature and trees.

Like most unisex perfumes, I unfortunately found it leans more clearly towards the masculine side and - as a woman - I didn't enjoy wearing it (that's why you see the little smiley "ok").

BUT I gave it to my husband, and on him, it was perfect. For me it's a nice and pleasant perfume for... a man.

I found the staying power and sillage excellent, both on me during my tests and on my husband.

SampleScentJourney

I really wanted to like this, but to me, this just smells like oleander and crabgrass. It reminds me of weeding my garden when it gets up to 117°F (47°C) in the summer. I'm sure if I was familiar with Mediterranean gardens I would like it more.

fraghead97

the most predominant note on my skin is a fresh, green fig. the citrus is so bright and fresh in the opening and barely lasts minutes on me, I wish it did for longer. this is a lovely aromatic, green fragrance. I'm sure the cypress and other base notes lends to the green aspect as well. once the fig is drawn out, I get a clean fresh musk. I don't detect any specific florals or the pistachio. If you enjoy a more green fig, you will like this. great for summer.

saramariah

To think that i’ve missed this all the years its been around.. oh my🥰🥰🥰 It is very similar to Wood Sage & Sea Salt from Jo Malone but with a soft sweet and tender floral note.

Satsuki Shimada

someone gifted me this, its interesting but somehow I feel like I've smelled this before somewhere I don't remember!
I like it.

Erencan

Opening is very citrusy but at the same time green and not very sharp.I think opening is a bit more masculine.I can smell lemon tree leaf so obviously.Mid notes floral fresh and green Fig Leaf the mixture is very well so you can smell all of it.It literally give me Mediteranean vibes and i think it lasts so good for a fresh scent.Lastly it is so unisex.

This is perhaps the best Jardin in the whole line. From beginning to end, I find fig leaves & pistachios & greens, along with mild florals in mid. Nor really a super long lasting performing one as expected (this is the 2nd Jardin I bought after sur le Toit) The scent profile is very comforting

astralmonad870

@ Thranduilseyebrows The Internet? That was my comment mentioning those dupes. Thanks for giving me so much authority

I went ahead and bought a 100 ml of this for $90. Abysmal longevity but I don’t mind re-applying. This juice is addictive, it’s like drugs.

NellGwyn

This might be my favourite scent of the jardins collection and possibly ever. A fascinating scent that draws me in, fresh yet comforting, I keep going for another sniff. I don't know if it's the Oleander or the citrusy- figgy gorgeousness of it all, but it is addictive.
It brings me back to summers at my grandparents house, I can smell the warm wood of the floors and furniture, the garden full of herbs, something citrusy- and somehow even the fresh vegetables and herbs they are cutting for dinner. It smells like comfort and long summer days and freshness.

natashaandika

this is the perfect blend of fig, citrus, and green notes. it is very refreshing, comforting but uplifting at the same time. I put this on my bedside table so that I can sniff it every morning (regardless of the season) to give myself a kick of freshness. it is perfectly unisex, albeit this isn't your typical pretty girl fragrance. I would say this is more 'cool girl' vibe. the sillage is actually pretty amazing imo--especially considering its an edt--and it radiates a bubble of freshness.

Echorich

I love Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi for its fig interpretation and Mugler’s Fly Away for its citrus floral balance, but Hermes has created the perfect blend of Fig, Citrus and Floral here. This is quality perfumery.

muhtayoh

i don't like the cap but the fragrance itself is fantastic

DahliaBurns

This is a beautiful fig and citrus fragrance. A little herbal. Very refreshing and clean! It’s something that is a soft unisex scent and is timeless. An immense 5

thecellophaneflower

I often don't agree when people label fragrances as masculine-leaning However...it breaks my heart that this is one that leans a bit too masculine for me to easily wear. Because it's gorgeous! The perfect blend of woody, figgy, and fresh. Watery, layered, and definitely an homage to the Mediterranean. I would say that it has more depth than the rest of the line (which I also love).

woomanmoomin

Unusually great fat luscious fruity fig with some Mediterranean side notes of conifer etc. for support. The florals don't draw my attention as much, but not even the conifer notes play any role more prominent than umpteenth fiddle here. The fig is the soloist, and a virtuoso to boot. Not quite as complicated or watery-fresh as Un Jardin sur le Nil, but rounder, fuller and more sensuous.

CatOwned

I love this scent. It is so nice and fresh, while to me being a comforting fresh and not a sharp wake the f up fresh. I can go about my day feeling nice and fresh. Then i can go to bed fresh, and this scent helps me calm down before sleep. The fig and the juniper make me happy along with the citrus. A friend told me this one smells like straight kitchen cleaner. So anyway it isn't for everyone lmfao. I've personally never smelled cleaning products that smell similar to this, but to each their own.

jerhmie

Upon exploring Un Jardin en Méditerranée, I found myself captivated by its delightful and evocative composition. The initial notes transported me to the enchanting landscapes of the Mediterranean, exuding a harmonious blend of green fig, citrus, and aromatic woody accords that conjured visions of sunny seaside gardens and lush foliage.

Although I admire Un Jardin en Méditerranée for its evocative portrayal of the Mediterranean garden, I couldn't shake the feeling that its resemblance to Sur Le Nil became increasingly apparent as the scent settled. While each possesses its own charm, I found myself wishing for more pronounced points of differentiation in the latter stages of wear.

If I were to rank my Jardin collection favorites, I would place Monsieur Li at the top for its distinctive and invigorating blend of kumquat and mint, followed by Un Jardin en Méditerranée for its initial allure, and then Sur Le Nil. While all three are undoubtedly captivating in their own right, Monsieur Li's unique and refreshing character has left an indelible impression on me.

In summary, Un Jardin en Méditerranée captivates with its Mediterranean garden-inspired allure, yet the similarities it shares with Sur Le Nil in the dry down prompt a contemplative comparison. While it holds its own merits, I found myself yearning for greater divergence in the final stages of its olfactory journey.

Tripokaridos

Clearly Green Perfume it opens sparkly with some bitterness, after 20 min I can smell the amazing realistic Fig ( only this and Phyloshycos) that only people with Fig trees can smell it.
The difference is on Hermes it's not creamy fig warm like Phyloshycos, it's light airy to give an example the Phyloshycos is like u just open the fruit to eat it , on Hermes it's like u touch the outer side of the fruit with some lemons at the shame time.
After 3 hours the bitterness goes away it I can smell something clean and fresh.
This perfume u like it or not u have to admit is unique, Personally I don't use it outside it's just for my own pleasure and use it some hours before sleep 😴 it reminds me my summer Homme and relax me.
Unisex a masterpiece in my opinion.

kitkatya

yessssssss. was unimpressed on paper but on me it’s just the kind of clean green i like. not a creamy juicy fig, more old lady or soap variety astringent, but in a way i like. makes me want to sit by the pool of a specific hotel in la jolla

Knsanto

One of the best summer fragrances I've come across! Smells completely different from the crowd. Combines the good parts of Fico Di Amalfi and Philosykos and is WAY better performing than the other two.

Thranduilseyebrows

Why do i have such expensive taste?? 😞 😞 😞 This is REALLY NICE. It has realistic gentle flowers with a slight powderiness. A little bit of citrus and cyprus but hard to pick up on, with a very good dry down. Wearable every day. I have yet to find any other scent that smells as realistic as this does for the Mediterranean smell, if anyone can list a dupe or alternative feel free. 4.5/5

Update the internet says Apparently Miller et Bertaux Green, Green, Green and Green + M&S Autograph celestial fig smell similar

SlavicaK

I bought a full bottle of this, so I like it, but I am astonished at what I end up smelling. I think, as one of the previous reviewers said, I love it as a memory, less so purely as a fragrance. On me, it absolutely lacks freshness, so I don't associate it with summer or the coast; the base notes combined, make it smell like cigarette butts on my skin. I like the smell - I am not a smoker myself, but I grew up among them, and it's the scent of my childhood. Not a particularly Mediterranean association for me, though I come from one of the Mediterranean countries.

amidwestheart

As a scent, disregarding any memory or emotion, I like this. As a memory, however, I love it. My favorite aspect of fragrances is the ability to transport the wearer to a specific time and place, and bring up the memories and emotions as well. I never owned this, but I used to work at Nordstrom and would stroll through the department and choose a scent to wear for my shift. It reminds me of the freedom of youth, the world open in front of you, the mystery of what lay ahead... For that reason, I adore this scent.

deentova

I tried this perfume with great desire as I thought it would be something special after the reviews I read based on which it seemed to be one of the most popular and long lasting of the series. however, I found the scent to lack the freshness of the others in the line and is somewhat warm and less refreshing. for this reason I don't see it as my choice from the series. so far i think jardin sur le toit is my favorite.

ScentedPianist

This is a very emotional perfume for me.
My grandparents had a beautiful country house in a very small village in west Portugal. That's where I spent most of my summer vacations, since it was 15 minutes from the beach.
In the yard, there was a fig tree and when I was a kid, I used to play hide and seek there with my sister.
I also remember my father picking figs for me. Since then it is my favorite fruit.

There's no other perfume that reminds me so much of the smell of that place and cherished moments as Un Jardin en Mediterranée.

thescented1

Gorgeous summer fragrance. The color of the bottle is gorgeous. I bought A'Cythere and the sales associate let me smell this one (it was put away as they were sold out of the fragrance). I immediately found Mediterrannee through another retailer. Such a lovely mix of all things outdoors in the summertime. A' Cythere is still my favorite of the Jardin line, but this is solidly my second favorite.

JmThms

Generally in the Dior Balade Sauvage and Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi neighborhood, and released in 2003, an early representative of that scent profile. The notes and listed accords for Un Jardin en Méditerranée show more greenness, but as it hits the nose through the lifecycle it's not too far from those two comparisons. There are probably differentiating nuances between the three, but I'm just going by memory without the benefit of direct comparison. Nice scent profile, and one I like more than the other Un Jardin series fragrance I have - Sur le Nil. Sur le Nil is beautiful in it's own right and I greatly respect it, but fig and citrus will beat carrot and tomato in my book every time. The performance is a bit suspect though.

flem

Pure, realistic ginger. Subtle hints of various citrus and some pine notes. But mostly a prominent ginger note. A fizzy one, like ginger beer. It is pretty bitter and biting, but there is a light background sweetness that helps it from becoming too cheek puckering.

Sanguine_scenttrails

This is a joyous, breezy fragrance. As the first perfume in Hermes Jardin line I have tried, I am more than pleasantly surprised. This wears with the same ease and freshness as a Jo Malone or Diptyque fragrance but here the performance and blending is quite a bit better than some niche freshies.

Un Jardin En Mediterranee opens with a fresh burst of wet fig and fresh woods- This fig is less sweet/creamy than Diptyque's Philosykos and more pulpy and sun-kissed. Both "photorealistic" interpretations of a fig note, but more at different stages of ripeness. The wood on the drydown is giving me an almost savory, tomato leaf like note- could this be the cypress? Either way, the blending of leaves, herbs, green fruit, and subtle florals exudes the warmth of a garden in the afternoon. This first hour of this scent pulls you in so many different directions, each one a beautiful stop in the garden.

After the first hour the perfume transforms into an oceanic marine scent. There's a wetness throughout the journey of this perfume, but at this point you've taken a boat off the Amalfi coast. The sea is the dominating note now, and it smells like you can see the garden in the distance- sun glistening on the fig trees, orange blossoms and cypress while you drift over idyllic Mediterranean waters. It feels distinctly like a warmer weather scent, but this is so masterful and lovely I am compelled to wear this year round.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I'm not the biggest fan of this fragrance and I find it too citrusy, bitter and woody for my liking. I don't like the combination of bergamot, lemon and mandarin orange all at the same time together and I don't think that it mixes well with the woody character of the red cedar and cypress and the bitter quality from the fig leaf.

I wish that I could smell more of the orange blossom in this and actually detect the oleander, since these are both notes that I love and more of them both would have sweetened this up more and made it less bitter.

Thankfully it isn't a very strong fragrance though, it didn't make me feel ill and it lasted 6 hours on my skin. I would say that its sillage is moderate and that it is a unisex fragrance that leans slightly masculine that you could wear during spring or summer during the day.

All in all, I'd give this fragrance a 3.5/10.

rasquinho

Good amount of crossover with ADP fico di amalfi to my nose, with this leaning more sharp and green and the ADP a bit creamier and sweeter

fourleafedrover8

This is gorgeous. Moderate longevity, fading hard and fast at the 4th hour. It continued to develop in complexity over that time. It starts super “marine” and ends in a juicy, dewy green scent that others here have equated to tea. I tested this on one arm and Chance Eau Fraiche by Chanel on the other and this blew the Chanel away! If you miss the flirty-ness of youthful scents like fruity body splashes, but want something less sweet, this might be for you.

EDIT: I came back because I stand corrected - I kept smelling something wonderful on me all day when I realized that the inside of my elbow was where the shop woman sprayed me. I got spritzed around 4:00. It is now 12:30am and I can still smell it!!! Wow.

Verdant

This is my go-to in the summer and I layer it with a Phylosikos EDT. It is so fresh and complex at the same time and I especially love the notes of Cypress coming through which gives it that mediterranean vibe. It is not particularly strong and doesn't last that long on my skin sadly (maybe 2-3 hours) so I respray during the day. When I put this on public transport I noticed people flock around me.

Tuttoo

I love this perfume - on other people. It sings and dances - on other people, but on me it just smells obnoxious. Sigh! I just don't seem to possess the chemistry required to make it do what it does on others.

astralmonad870

I’ve since found two alternatives with identical smell but better performance than this overpriced body spray: 1) Miller et Bertaux Green, Green, Green, and Green and 2) Autograph Celestial Fig by Marks and Spencer’s. The latter is extremely affordable at £34.95 for a 100 ml bottle. If you want a much nicer and cleaner fig predominant scent go for Fico di Amalfi by Acqua di Parma as that is simply the best!

Lotte_Liese

I lived in the Mediterranean for 5 years and I was quite interested to try this and see if there could be a scent association and I have to say that it was aptly named.
Warning: This gives 100% old school cologne vibes.
A strong bergamot opening followed by three aromatic notes of fig, intense cypress and a softer juniper note. Very lovely, aromatic and green. A spicy note of pepper might have added interest to the fragrance.

Dcarlo

This is a real Mediterranean garden full of fig bushes, cypresses, lemon trees and orange blossoms. The fig note is not gourmand but somehow it makes me salivate upon first sniff.
Short lived as all eaux from the Jardin collection, but this is the way they were intended to be and I am perfectly fine with that.
Beautiful, different, peaceful and worth having among your warm weather wardrobe.

Elysiom

I can smell the fig leaf from a few feet away immediately- not a bad thing, just very forward. I like it.

Then it starts to dry down to crushed greens- I suppose that's the juniper but it's not that like... almost 'mentholated' juniper so its more like crushed or fresh cut grass. Then the citrus starts to come out a little- so its definitely interesting in that respect- doesn't lead with the lemon, which is new.

That's kind of where it stays- a little sweetness at the drydown which is nice. Just bitter crushed greens that get elevated even more fresh with that hit of citrus. Firmly unisex, very green.

If you like grassy unisex fragrances, I'd choose this one. It sweetens a little over time and is more complex than others of the same type. That citrus comes forward, ok... I'm finally getting the orange blossom there at the end. Huh, actually quite lovely. If I decide to get a green grass freshie I'll choose this one for sure. I like it more and more as time goes on and it dries down.

a2zbeats

A very good aquatic fragrance! Love the hit of Juniper and Cedar with the fresh zingy Mediterranean lemon, smells phenomenal. Only issue I have with this fragrance is that it disappears in about 2 hours, otherwise I’d rate it higher.

8.8/10

Simon-Alexis

Un jardin en Méditerranée is one of the perfumes that I adore from the depths of my heart. Upon opening, you can smell the fragrance of greenery with a hint of bitterness. After a while, it becomes closer to relaxing tea notes, but not overly sweet, as you can also sense the subtle acidity of citrus.

Lexvanova

This is one of my most beloved fragrances. I used it a lot in college and brings me such fond memories. It was my first introduction into a unisex high end scent and I’m still obsessed with it after so many years. It’s fresh, aromatic and beautiful. In my opinion the best and most underrated of all of the perfumes in the Jardin series.
A true jewel to own and wear.

MoonInAries

I have around 10 fragrances in my collection and this gets the most compliments.

Like an ocean mist washing against a garden of fig trees, you are instantly transplanted to the shores of the Mediterranean: nothing but blue skies and azure waters. Beautiful from beginning to end. This is the definition of a summer scent, you could wear this in other seasons but it is tailor made for the warmer months when the sun is high.

Apparently there are citruses in the top but like others here, I can't smell them; this goes straight to fig leaf (emphasis on the leaf and not the fruit) and cypress notes for me. Initially there was a soapiness to the composition but I'm finding this is diminishing as more oxygen gets into the bottle? The drydown is woody but not in the heavy sense of oud or sandalwood, it remains a light, breezy scent throughout.

This is certainly not the longest lasting fragrance but were it denser it would defeat the purpose...this is meant to be worn lightly. For an EDT, it is certainly on the expensive end but I managed to find a great discount on a brand new batch.

Jawaher R. AlJanahi

I smelt like a walking spa for the next hour after I sprayed this on my clothes. Definitely high projection!

pcsanjuan_89

If you don't want the smokiness of the incense note of Le Nil, then En Mediterranee is your best bet, they almost smell the same, except mediterranee is more aquatic and green. People say Le Nil and Le Toit are almost the same, i beg to differ, Mediterranee is Le Nil's Fraternal Twin.

EDIT: I finally got a full bottle of this, Its my FAVORITE among the Jardin Line and is a good scent all year round, i have no idea what fig smells like but this is a very herbal- green, sweet and smoky scent that lasts probably throughout the day especially when its hot. As i mentioned in other reviews, this is my no1, followed by monsieur li.

BeardedIris

On card: crystalline, figgy, light, watery. Brief bergamot zest quickly transforms into a sweetish cedar–fig–green mandarin–lemon opening, pretty and bright with citruses. The figginess passes and the juniper comes through with a faint creamy woods feel to the background, not heavy or cloying in any way.
On skin it develops quite differently and the conifers are scratchier. Especially the cypress. Rather than a cedar-fig perfume it becomes a bergamot-cypress-juniper one. The bergamot beautifully bright and refreshing and the cypress and juniper putting more beef behind Un Jardin en Mediterranée than is usual for an Hermès eau de toilette, skewing it woodier and less citrus than it first appears. And I find my admiration creeping up from a Like to a Love. My favourite in the Jardins range and absolute perfection for warm spring days.

astralmonad870

It is a balmy summer’s day with a light breeze. You are sitting under a cypress tree near a juniper grove in a sundress, sipping lemonade and reading a book.
(There’s a prominent pungent, slightly sour and medicinal fresh green evergreen note in this. The oleander complements it perfectly. But I’m not sure if this is fbw imo. I recently passed up the opportunity to purchase a 100 ml bottle of this for £30 on Ebay, as the longevity is barely an hour on my skin. Also after a few sprays the entire scent is slightly synthetic.)
I would categorize this as a summer fragrance. Other fragrances with similar profiles but more natural scent accords (all of which I own) are:
(1) Acqua Di Gioia by Armani
(2) Thé Basilic by Molinard
(3) Wood Sage and sea salt by Jo Malone
(4) Thé Matcha by Le Labo

dismalharmony

Gorgeous! Unlike anything I’ve ever smelt. Airy and summery without feeling flimsy. Juniper + cypress provide a unique aromatic touch. Zesty with citrus, robust with wood. All of these elements harmonize to create something that manages to feel both upscale and bohemian. I don’t think there’s a single occasion that this wouldn’t be suitable for. Truly unisex, too — this fragrance does it all. Sillage is decent but longevity leaves a lot to be desired, fading to nothing by the fourth hour. Still, I get the feeling I’ll be needing more than my sample vial quite soon.

ava96

This is super fresh and beautiful. At the start it smells like grass and greenery with some citrus, in the drydown it becomes sweeter on my skin. It's really really nice. Longevity is not great unfortunately, but it's a pretty scent. I have a 10ml decant, unsure if I'd purchase it at full size purely due to the longevity.

suzanne_ronald

EDEN BEFORE THE FALL. This is the most original fig scent IMO since Olivia Giacobetti's industry changing and much copied work with Premier Figuier L'Artisan Parfumeur & Philosykos Diptyque. In contrast, UJEM signed by perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena has an edenic quality of a luscious garden with waterfalls and succulent, ripe figs still on the vine with their leaves, while Giacobetti's work had a powdery, creamy, & faintly-smoky/dusty quality. This has a sharpness, like the prick of a consciences, in the opening, and the soapiness of an outdoor shower. One could imagine a scuffle, whilte-milky juice spilling from broken tree branches, while Adam & Eve in sewn fig leaves are kicked out of Eden by the flaming cherubim. UJEM lacks the dusty, milky and faintly smoky aspects, instead bringing forward a fruity greenness, making it more 'Eden before the fall'.

Contrast to Un Air de Samsara Guerlain:
These have quite different note cascades, but to my nose, they're more similar than the contrast below, with a green, oriental floral vibe. UAdS is a light wearing, green version of the original Samsara. The similarity to UJEM is more in their openings, but UAdS dries down more in keeping with the Samsara range, while UJEM dries down with a sweet, fruity fig.

Contrast to Philosykos EDP Diptyque:
These are very different, and they're in different lanes, although they both have a prominent fig leaf note. Philosykos, together with Premier Figuier L'Artisan Parfumeur, are Olivia Giacobetti's industry-changing work in rendering a whole fig tree, and overall a more forward creamy woodiness. UJEM doesn't acquire the smoky, soapy & near-coconut/coconut facets present in PF & Philosykos.

Contrast to Fig Extasy Mancera:
These are different, and this scent is in a different lane, although both have a prominent fig leaf note. Fig Extasy is distantly inspired by the work of Olivia Giacobetti in Premier Figuier L'Artisan Parfumeur & Philosykos Diptyque, although FE is a steroidal version, bringing the smoky & soapy aspects even more forward.

Overall: Well above average performance, with a beautiful & original fig scent. This is the perfect scent to wear when reminiscing about what could have been, and my favourite fig scent ATM, so naturally it's a love for me. Enjoy!

jjfragrance

This is fantastic. Blue and lovely sea smell, fresh, clean, almost spicy, and gorgeous. I could see why this could be the fave of the collection for many. Ultimately more femme than I'd want to smell personally and too similar to the others in the line to get more than one, but so worth checking out.

Traisk22

This is my all-time favorite perfume. I hadn't used it in a couple of months, and once I sprayed it, I fell in love all over again. I think Jean-Claude Ellena is a genius. I want to write him a love letter for making this perfume. Just started reading his book. It's very enchanting as well.

spectralhorizons

A light, non-cloying feminine perfume smell. I don't exactly buy that this is gender neutral, it smells very typical of feminine perfumes.

Opens with sweet greenery at the very beginning that quickly morphs into a floral, powdery scent. In fact, this is very flowery. Too flowery for me.

weazal

Opens creamy/soapy, salty, mandarin oranges. More oriental than mediterranean. Effervescent brightness radiates.

As it warms, pistachio is questionably prominent. Wood notes take awhile to reduce the cleaning/detergent scents until it finally settles into a fresh pop of gently sweet, floral, wood.

Mild projection, but fell in love with how long and gorgeous the dry down is. Not strong, but quite better than you initially think. Give it time.

Glyph

"Adequate name" may be the most hilarious AI-created "pro" for a fragrance I've yet found.

MytamBuna

Love at first scent! I barely had the stopper off my bottle before the deliciousness of this elixir won me over! Not gourmand in a sickly sweet candy type way, instead the rich fig honey fragrance touched by orange zest and blossom filled my senses. The beautiful fig and woods blend seamlessly with the citrus and create a unique perfume that is delightfully pleasant - especially during summer and fall. Bravo Jean-Claude Ellena!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

torres_jake

It wasn't love at first sniff. When I first tried this, it smelled sour. However, I really wanted to buy something from this line because I love their Un Jardin Sur Le Nil shower gel. While at the drugstore (some big drugstores in Japan sell perfumes/colognes) I sprayed it on both of my arms, then left the shop. That very same day while I was grocery shopping, I kept on catching whiffs of it while reaching for things at the supermarket. It made me go back to the drugstore to buy a bottle.

I love this, so many good memories linked to this scent. I sometimes spray this on before going to bed. It’s very woody and a bit creamy on my skin, could be the reason why I find this comforting.

Moderate longevity and sillage, but I have to say, out of all the Un Jardin fragrances I've tried, this lasts the longest on my skin. 9/10

CodyHowl

Sharp neroli and citrus opening, aromatic yet acerbic. At first I was put off by how much the opening smells like a lemon antibacterial wipe.

Very natural dry cypress accompanies, however, and the rest of the composition catches up shortly thereafter. All ages and unisex, but I see it as more masculine. Softer and cleaner than the note pyramid suggests, this fragrance is pretty fresh and laundry detergent-y once it dries down and dulls into something gentle, realistic, and airy. I detect no fig in this, contrary to some other reviewers.

Like most Hermès fragrances, this fragrance exudes luxurious quality and perfectly captures what its designer envisioned. If this were less sterile, I would consider it an easy casual spring and summer wear.

Edemay

Damn I was so hoping this would be a close alternative to purple fig but its not
This is more on the fresh shampoo aquatic side
Doesn't smell expensive, just a nice freshy

epichodeng

Another fig fragrance for me, this one definitely has the musk undertone showing, cooler leaning (amber for me leans warm and cozy)

alternateu

Beautiful, slightly herbal (almost camphoraceous/bay leaf-esque) light woody citrus. Very photorealistic again, and brings to mind a slightly icier, colder, woodier scene. Beautiful, more versatile than the other Un Jardin series (I think you could easily wear it all year round, though maybe less in winter). Very pretty. Unisex. Average performance and longevity.

vanillababy111

All I get is toilet air freshener :/ not for me

sunnyviolets

If you're familiar with Womanity, this is essentially the same fig and saltiness. Only more green, woodsy and less sweet.

A fun and unique going out fragrance. Unisex. Picture warm summer nights in Corfu.

on-that-day

I've bought multiple FBs of this scent because it is so beautiful and utterly unique. I'd love to find a good clone that could perhaps boost longevity, but the nature of the scent is such that nobody can seem to copy it even halfway convincingly.

I hate a lot of scents (my nose is an obnoxious diva) - gourmands, florals, non-unisex scents, sweet scents, rich scents, musk scents, powdery scents - the perfumes I'm able to wear are horribly limited and it is frankly an embarrassment. That makes it all the more special, though, when I find a unicorn like this one.

It's a blast of citrus, not sharp and cold because it's wrapped in fig leaves, balancing it out with warmth and humidity. It develops with a warm roundness that hangs around me in a close veil, but can still be picked up by others - I've had compliments from people several feet away, much to my surprise. It lasts longer on clothes, infamously fading to a skin scent in about 3 hours, though that skin scent does hang around a few hours more. Because the notes twist and turn, I never go anosmic to it - an important warning if you quickly get sick of smelling your own perfume.

It both is and isn't sweet; it is citrusy but not fruity; humidly aquatic and woodily dry. It achieves exactly what I have always wanted from a perfume: it smells like a landscape. It's my signature scent, year-round, and is my favourite scent from my favourite line.

klioux

I definitely agree with @pimentosugars that this one is deeply figgy. This is ripe sweet fig juice - you can practically feel the fruit squish beneath its soft velvet skin. The green fig leaf brings you directly underneath the fig tree, with cypress and juniper to add a little herbal vegetal bushiness. If there is citrus, it's just barely floating by from a nearby fruit tree.

If this had better staying power I would love it! As it is, still a wonderful sweet hot weather option

pimentosugars

I am astonished at the list of top and middle notes. Lemon? Bergamot? Orange blossom? Where? Forget all that, this perfume cuts to the base immediately, and that base is figs. Wild figs! Figs, figs and more figs! On my skin this is pretty much one note, but what a note! I am delighted because I haven't found a replacement fig perfume since Jo Malone discontinued their Wild Fig and Cassis, a dark day for perfumistas everywhere. Yes, I have found other fig perfumes but they haven't captured me in quite the same way, and even here there is an ever so slight dry note I am not 100% sure I like. But that note goes and the fresh fig stays, bright without being too sharp, easy-breezy and perfect for summer. Lovely.

glrd1

I love this perfume. It truly does evoke a sense of sitting on a warm sandy beach and watching the sunset. My only gripe is that it doesn't last any longer. I feel like I get about 3 hours of it and then it's faded away.

MuralGlobe

I wanna preface that I do not travel a lot, if at all. I don't know what the Mediterranean coast smells like and I probably never will. Though I love anecdotal reviews that describe a place rather than the smell, it just doesn't cut it because for me, at the end of the day, it makes no sense at all.
Now to the actual review. I like this scent. A lot. I'm surprised there isn't a fruity aspect mentioned above because I get fruit from this. A slightly sweet woodiness to it. Its not like any fruit I've ever smelled (which is the common American ones btw I have no idea what durian or starfruit smells like). It's just so yummy to me. There is an obvious citrus aspect to it at the beginning which gives it that bite (and is probably where that fruitiness comes from).
It dies down at a pretty moderate pace, to the point where you do have to sniff right up to your nose to smell it. That's okay, though, because this is a love.

If you like Philosykos for the greenery and coconut-iness, Wild Fig & Cassis for its greenery and fruitiness, Orange Blossom by Jo Malone for its initial zesty sweetness, then you might like this too!

Miss Kittens

This perfume is fig dominant, fresh, slightly spicy. It smells like you're sitting on the coast of the Mediterranean sea and feel the sea breeze on your face. Simply gorgeous!!!

malikun

Jardin en Mediterrane was amazing. I dont go out often nowadays and work from home, so my schedule is mostly house-grocery shopping-gym:) This perfume is just what I needed for the “daily grind” where I spend 90% of time. This jardin is fresh and airy, doesn’t annoy me during work hours and light enough for gym afterwards. I used my sample already so really looking forward to the full bottle😍P. s. I added Mary Kay ‘s Velocity for women in the similar section, am I confused or they are really alike?

Ineke01

I had this years ago, liked it for it’s special herbal aromatic greennness but forgot about it.
A few weeks ago (september) I went on a weekend trip to Ibiza. Walking around in the garden of our agriturismo I realised to my surprise the garden smelled like Un jardin en mediterranee! Herbal, green, a few flowers, some fig, some woods, a bit of citrus……spot on! Amazing!
Back home I bought a new bottle of this to remind me of lazy summerdays spent in the Mediterranean sun. Sigh.

Comicalcupcake

This one takes time to get to know. By that I mean that I've had the mini for a while and worn it a few times, yet because I don't really have a category for it in my head, I sometimes forget I've had it. Is it woody? Sure, but it's also cool. Is it floral? I guess, but it's also a bit austere. Is it citrusy? Well, the citrus is definitely blended in, but it doesn't stand out. So what is this thing, exactly? I still don't know.

I'm enjoying it a lot. It is good for warm weather, but a lot more serious than other fragrances I call summery. It has an aloofness to it. It's not warm or decadent in any way. But it's outdoorsy just the same. In that sense, it reminds me of another favorite, Chanel Cristalle. (I'm not saying they smell the same. Just a similar cool and serious vibe.) Sometimes I like that.

Edit: I put it on because someone said it smelled of fig and I'm almost out of my Philosykos sample. This has some fig leaf blended well into the drydown, but it is not figgy or jammy at all to my nose.

agata1288

As a person living next to Mediterranean sea, I can confirm that it smells exactly like Mediterranean vegetation growing on rocky coasts. Slightly green, herby and peppery but still very comforting. I don't smell much citrus here, more of herbal earthiness and a bit of juniper. It's very natural. I adore it, it's a scent of relaxation. Definitely unisex leaning towards masculine. Sadly, longevity is so poor that it makes me angry :( I just want to bathe in it.

belinda.1

Wow, how strange - this is just pure cedar for me. Like a carpenter's workshop where they've been cutting cedar boards. It drowns out anything else. It's not an unpleasant smell in itself but it's not something I want my own body to smell like. On paper I should have loved this - floral aquatic is my absolute jam.

Glyph

Calming and refreshing simultaneously, this is a beautiful appropriate fragrance for a hot day. It has a very watery aspect, and the fig combined with the coniferous notes and all the citrus do evoke the pleasing sense of an oasis. I sampled this in the Montréal airport and had to purchase a split of this because it was so beguiling. I wish I had bought this earlier because it is such a great summer fragrance, and is not like most other eaux.

Thesmallestaromaticfeline

Very unique freshie. Opens up with refreshing zesty citrus notes, and the drydown is redolent of fresh, salty capers. Totally unisex.

ajraccounts

1-2 minutes of zesty citrus, herbal, junipery, watery freshness. does in fact evoke a garden on the mediterranean, where i've traveled a bunch. then, gewurtztraminer. that's what i smell like: a sweet, fruity, boozy white wine. which isn't a bad smell in general, just not what i personally want to smell like.

of the jardin series i've tested so far, this one has the least powerful synthetic fresh note (calone/relative — watery melon) of them all. still has it though, and to me, it's just noticeably artificial and i can't get past it.

RandomPatterned

Mediteranee opens a bit aromatic like Sur Le Nil but dries down to a more fruity and fig prominent version of 78 Vintage Green Banana Republic. I like all of the Un Jardin collection, the only one I have yet to try is Apres la Mousson. I can rely on anyone of them fitting a mood or occasion for wearing with Sur Le Toit and Le Nil being my favorites. All seem to share a hint of Eau des Merveilles.

Arber Cami

Excellent creation of Mr Elena. Opening is a blast of citrus and aromatics. Dries down to a fresh, foresty, pine needle and fig leaf scent. Really nice and fresh for the warmer months. Definitely unisex.

saccitygrl01

I wasn’t too impressed with this fragrance with my first few wearings— reminded me of Acqua de Parma mirto di panarea with a weird toothpaste like mint note in the opening. However I discovered its the dry down that this fragrance shines—-when I wore a shirt a week after wearing it while testing this fragrance I caught a whiff of this fragrance on my shirt even thought I had put on a VS body spray. It smelled so green, fresh and clean I was instantly hooked. Also was my first compliment getter in my fragrance wardrobe. Great longevity when compared to ADP. This one needs time to open before you judge it f/b worthy.

violeteme

That first phase is so fresh, citrusy and aromatic, I wish it lasted longer as the second part, although also nice, grounds this perfume and makes it not refreshing anymore. It converts to an aromatic, creamy fig leaf, which during hot days can become a bit cloying. I still borderline love it, but I would probably pick Un Jardin Sur Le Nil instead.

KerriZ

This is without a doubt a rich first hit of coniferous forest. You land in a bed of pine needles mixed with a layer of lemon. It's really very refreshing and transcendent.

Cherry_Darling

Gorgeous, lasting fig citrus with pine and juniper undertones that don't feel too masculine. Very green, a little sweet, fresh, citrussy. Nothing chemical, no bad notes, just fresh Mediterranean summer holiday bliss. I used to douse myself in this at every airport.

**200+ samples up for swap UK - check my custom shelf and I have another 50 to add so please check back**

arctic_swimmer

I just love it! It's a green, fresh & balanced citrus with this lovely herbal kick from figue , juniper and cypress. The name is program: a Mediterranean garden. A bit like the smell when crushing the green leaves of a lemontree. For me a therapeutic scent on grey days! Beaming me immediately to a lovely Italian garden and makes me happy.

aris1223

I love this !!! This is the perfect blend of feminine & masculine. So fresh and crisp but with depth!! I can drench myself in this . I reach for this soooo much . Love the versatility . Definitely a summer fragrance and early fall. Longevity is pretty decent on me .

derby2169

I recently blind bought Un Jardin Sur Le Nil enjoyed it, and consequently started experimenting with the rest of the line. Un Jardin En Mediterranee, is overall nice, but the former is still the number 1 of the line imo.

I get intense greenness on the top, fig leaf in all of it's glory with a touch of citrus, unfortunately coupled with an off-putting almost minty aromachemical, cooling to the nose almost, reminds me of the smell of xylitol, an artificial sweetener you find in pricey toothpastes. It takes about 15 minutes to get rid of that strange top note before it turns full on beautiful floral woody greenness. The dry down is a musky juniper note with a some residual florals and fig leaf, very smooth and pleasant.
If it weren't for that strange effervescent minty top note this would have been a definite addition to my summer rotation.

Olfactoryoverloaded

This reminded me of Philosykos by Diptyque the first time I tried it. Tried again today on my left arm - with “ Paula’s Ibiza” by Lowe on the right . Both have a fig type scent that I love. Paula’s Ibiza was bolder to start but really quite quickly deteriorated into a cheap aldehyde -y scent. Un Jardín En Méditerranée on the other hand has if anything metamorphosed into a much more sophisticated scent. The fig has become less intense and there are hints of citrus and herbs ( oregano ? Thyme ? Something savoury ?) also a musky note balanced by a sweetness . This is a wonderful scent but I can’t as yet decide if I like the savoury notes … time will tell !

Enrium

Un Jardin En Méditerranée is the original Jardin, and in my opinion, is second only to Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. This is a typical example of Jean-Claude Ellena's olfactory watercolour creations - ethereal and transparent, yet deceptively complex. EM is well-named - embodying the spirit of the Mediterranean without being too obvious. It is multifacteted - there is a nice citrus opening; herbs and tomato stems, as Luca Turin remarked upon; verdant herbal grassiness; and perhaps most notably, a wonderful green fig note. It still manages to be reasonably cohesive, as well as being evocative of memories of holidays past for me.

EM opens with a bright, juicy citrus accord, bolstered by a vegetal tomato stem note. The fig emerges quite early on - green and progressively juicy. It is delicious and natural-smelling, lasting throughout. The neroli sustains the citrus accord, adding a light blossom-y edge, while the herbal notes along with the tomato stem of the opening makes Luca Turin's focaccia comparison make sense. The cypress and juniper et al. add a grassy, earthy, forest-like finish to the drydown, but the pistachio is noteworthy - a very unusual addition that is instantly recognisable. It becomes woody and musky as it fades.

Sillage and longevity are both weak-to-moderate - my main complaint with this scent. Feminine-leaning but unisex depending on taste, this is an excellent summer cologne, ideal for daytime wear. It is light and fresh, but unusual and masterfully created - streets ahead of generic citrus colognes. Full bottle worthy for me, along with Sur Le Nil. Excellent. 4/5.

twiggy48

I have had several bottles of this, because I like it as a room spray and as an atmospheric scent just for me. It is really nice for times when I will be in an enclosed space, such as an airplane or office. It is extremely fresh-smelling.

To my nose it smells very green, with herbs and fig and a hint of mint. It would almost be a nice toothpaste flavor. It isn't sensual, or warm, and I don't think I would find it particularly alluring on someone, man or woman. I also can't really imagine it as a good work fragrance to instill confidence or reliability (because it smells a bit weird compared to standard work scents). Like many Hermes scents, it is almost more like a food scent than a person scent, if that makes sense. Still, I like it and I am sorry it seems to have perhaps been discontinued. Maybe Hermes can start making a garden series of candles or room scents, because I think they work better for that than as fragrances on the skin.

mrshnchnkm

Hiking in the coniferous forest, iced tea with bergamot, freshly peeled orange - the first associations that come to mind with this perfume. Perfect citrus perfume for summer.

chakukan

I got the 4 piece sample set for Christmas, nice but leans too masculine on me. the longevity on these is terrible, for the audacious price I expected much more. Would not repurchase anything from the "Jardin" line.

Evolutionofmyth

When I first got this I absolutely hated it, the citrus blast almost destroyed my nose. However, it smells fantastic on my mum, the way it settles down into a creamy fig scent is lovely. For some reason very citrus top notes smell bitter on me, and I was so desperate to like this. Atleast my mum loves it!

tecfield

This is lovely. Jean-Claude Ellena had done a fantastic job to create a beautifully balanced fragrance with 2 juniper and 1 cypress notes -- it is green but it is not overwhelming. Fig leaf is very realistic in this fragrance but it is not loud. One of those nice fragrances that you can find every listed note in it. Its woody citrusy but very unisex. For me, sniffing it off of my cloth or skin is not as interesting as the cloud it makes -- smells much nicer a feet or two away from where I sprayed it. I have quite a few of the Un Jardin line and this is definitely on of the better ones if not the best one I have. Probably a good choice for warmer weather but it can be a year around fragrance IMO.

rosetinteddream

This fragrance, or really my relation with it, is kind of funny.

So I am a big lover of Vintage Green 78 by Banana Republic. Such a juicy and refreshing scent, without being too sweet or aquatic in any way. Very green, which is my fav type of scent. That has been discontinued, and although I can still get it easily, I’ve always been disappointed in its performance and have wanted to try something similar.

I’ve lurked at this fragrance on here for some time after seeing it in the “Reminds me of” section for VG 78. I don’t have a store in my college town that sells Hermès fragrances, or even Chanel. So I haven’t been able to test it and haven’t been inspired enough to just blind buy it.

Well, for my birthday, we went to the nearest city and I got to smell so many scents I’ve never been able to before (MFK, Creed, Bond no 9, Tom Ford, Jo Malone and others) and I saw a bottle of this! I smelled it and I immediately thought of VG 78. I didn’t have the money to buy a new bottle then. And after reading a comment a few below me about an older bottle with orange/amber juice and it being concentrated, I decided to wait and find one. Well I just did on Mercari and am awaiting it’s arrival! Will update with my thoughts once it arrives!

First of all, this MUST be sampled on skin because it does not smell great on a blotter.

I have sampled four different bottles of Un Jardin En Mediterranee and each experience has been completely different, leading me to believe that this fragrance will mature and evolve with age. The first bottle I tested had lots of citrus and warm fig with that classy Hermes touch. I was hooked. The second bottle was all soil and green fig leaves and twigs but progressively became much sweeter and softer. The third and oldest was definitely the best—salt air and fig leaves with citrus and coniferous nuances that dried down to a lightly sweetened, creamy, figgy musk. I could not stop smelling my wrists it was so addictive.

I've finally caved and bought a bottle. It's a new batch, and the opening is salty green fig leaves and gentle conifer notes softly sweetened by citrus. (LOVE!) The mid gets progressively sweeter until it becomes a clean, slightly sweet, and soapy fig. It's not my favorite iteration, but I think it will get better with time. It is my hope that the soap note evolves into the warm musk I previously experienced.

Un Jardin En Mediterranee is certainly the most classy fragrance in my collection, but I also find it incredibly artistic. I feel it takes the wearer on an olfactory journey to the Mediterranean coast just before the figs are ready to harvest. Lovely.

Kaew3T

I just love this fragrance. The opening is fresh and spicy and the dry down is a warm, slightly sweet, figgy scent that is to die for lol. I don't know about the sillage but longevity is great especially if you spray it on your clothes. I spray 6 sprays at about 7 in the morning and I still get whiffs of it at 7pm. My favorite of all the Jardins (apart from La Lagune which I have not tried)

poekie

For me, this smells amazing. I smell fig trees and a hint of citrus. Green, fresh, sweet, but not cloyingly. It reminds me of the Rituals Under a Fig tree candle.

muscular

I recently purchased a bottle from a discounter, and wow, I gotten a bottle that was quite orange in color and upon checking the batch code, it was from more than 7 years ago. I was initially afraid it might have already gone bad, but to my surprise, it was a lot stronger that the one I sampled off a departmental store.

My juice is just so concentrated, so sweet, it was projecting very well for over 2 hours but the scent remains strong for another 5 hours. This scent is just so pleasant, so unisex, hardly offensive at all unless you do not like sweet fragrances. I have fragrances that went bad with time (dior homme sports 2017) and also this fragrance that is so strong despite more than 7 years old. Highly recommended for those who like a strong sweet fruity smell, that's just a touch vegetable.

MjTheBeck

This instantly reminded me of Philosykos. But where Philosykos at first spray is like being covered in hyper-realistic plant smells of a verdant botanical garden, Mediterranee is a lightly toned down sister, with a touch of more traditional perfume essence than the former. In other words, I adore philo but med smells more like something you'd expect to smell on a person. It also has similar stages, which for me are very green -> figgy sweet -> creamy/lactonic. Sillage and longevity are low, less than philo, but I still really really love it. (Also I'm learning that what others describe as very figgy usually smell to me like the greenest of green and most realistic green frags - what I interpret as fig doesn't really appear until full dry down)

hotrodangel

I don't mean this as a slight on the perfume in any way, but this reminds me of being in European cosmetics stores like L'Occitane or Yves Rocher. On the surface it's a clean fig leaf/orange blossom scent, but something in the base reminds me of tomato vines in the sun, like a greenhouse on a hot day. It's warm, fresh and very evocative, at least to me.

GizPop

One of the most beautiful interpretations of fig I found so far. It is fig in its natural scene and it also has a beautiful saltiness. I much appreciate the fact that it actually smells like a perfume composition, not like a room spray, without losing the fig accord. Natural smelling, well blended and alluring. It is a real mediterranean experience in a bottle.
Edit: forget everything I said before. I love this fragrance, this is the truth. The way it projects this almost abstract scent is definetely the sign of a nice blend, for me. Definetely my favourite fig so far, though I can understand it may just not be for everyone. Unisex fragrance. A love, love for me. So glad I finally got a full bottle.

Holliebobollie

My signature scent of the 2000’s before I had kids. So different and so clean and fresh. Very unisex. I love this whole Jardin collection.

thefondest

Luca Turin said this smelled like tomato and focaccia, so I had to try it. With that in mind when I tried this on, I instantly got what he was talking about. This name is not a misnomer at all, and perfectly conjures up an image of a fancy al fresco meal in Italy on a really nice day. Like the beach, that seems to be a thing that a lot of people want to smell like, considering there are so many perfumes inspired by Italian food. I can understand why, and could easily imagine this on Diane Lane in Under the Tuscan Sun. It's definitely an adult vacation smell, the kind where you don't want to do much more than drink in beautiful places while wearing nice, but unfussy clothes. Fig and citrus and clean, open air.

Hugo Montez

One of my first "hidden gems" that i came across when I started my journey years ago was this fragrance. A masterful composition by one of my favorites Perfumers, mister Jean-Claude Ellena.

He arrived at Hermès in 2003, and the first fragrance that he created was this one. This is probably one of my favorite spring/summer fragrances and even after these years and hundreds of fragrances tested, this is still a staple and a must have in my collection. My girlfriend steal it sometimes, cause she loves it too.

So what it smells like? Basically, a fresh, green, Mediterranean breeze in a summer afternoon. It starts off with a tomato steam accord. Very bitter, green but, still, with juicy and fruity elements. There's a cypress note that helps accentuate the green aspect and some nuttiness that camera from nowhere. Some would say pistachio, but i don't smell that.

Above this, and as the perfume develope, the fig tree and the leafs came to play and make this even more summery and refreshing. A true Mediterranean feel.

I live in a place where Fig trees can easily be found and i also a big fan of the smell and the fruit itself. This, although not the perfect reinterpretation of the Fig theme, it's definitely in the top 10 and, as a fresh-green scent, is probably one of the best. I love all the facets. The green cypress and fig leafs, the nuttiness, the refreshing tomato steam accord, the overall summer afternoon feel. A very good company on a summer afternoon walk after beach.

If you don't know this fragrance and love fig trees and wish for summer holidays in Italy, test this one out. Grab your sunglasses, put on your favorite flip-flops, a tripped t-shirt and some shorts, close your eyes and enjoy the Mediterranean breeze that this fragrance creates in the air.

Just a sidenote, the performance is not the greatest but it's decent. 5-6h with good projection in the first hour.

PS: I would give it a 5* rating but we have to be honest, objetive and unbiased. A very recommended one and my favorite from the line, with Un Jardin Sur Le Nil being a very close second.

apentias

This is the first designer fragrance I've bought in twenty years. I don't intend to snub designer scents but they never seem to fulfill what I'm looking for- niche always proves to be the only route for me. Now, this. This is masterful and it's niche and I'm sticking to this assertion. I know Ellena is a living legend, but, until now, I have never loved his creations. I'm certain that is my fault, of course, millions of people who adore his work obviously are right. I always wanted to try the Jardin range and the others left me indifferent but this was a blast, a love at first sniff. So much so, that I didn't wait a couple of hours to see how it performs, I bought it straight away, something I never do. Now, on to the juice itself: this is within the general family of Fiore D'Ulivo, Philosykos, Caligna, that is a true mediterranean grove experience (rarely does a fragrance hold so true to its name). This is an ultra-sophisticated version of citrus fruits with a soft flowery mist lingering among them, all on a bed of pine wood and fig leaves. It has a light, polished feeling but is robust in accords, and remains complex for hours, something I need from a fragrance. The projection is moderate, the longevity as well. I wouldn't personally buy this for someone below 35-40, as it evokes a more mature feeling. This could absolutely be unisex. Office-safe but also night-appropriate as it's beautifully unique but also not offensive. I would give it an 8.5/10 solely because I would prefer better performance. But the concoction itself is a 10/10.

thestranger

Wow, this is a fascinating scent. I must try it again on a summer day! My partner said it reminded him vividly of something from his childhood - I think maybe it was the cypress :) Truly lovely aura, I can see it being magical in the heat.

E.H.Tersono

My favourite of the Jardin series that I've tried (Sur le Nil, Sur Le Toit, Apres La Mousson). It's fresh and citrusy and light-green and airy, truly like a garden but without seeming at all floral. Stems and fruits and branches and leaves and flowers and dew and the sun on wood and grass, fresh but sweet, with a little hint of sharpness. A masterwork really. I want to eat it, but it's not gourmand or food-like.

However, the dry-down is just a bore. It loses all the interest of the first hour. While still a fresh cool scent, it becomes vague, generic, and loses what I liked about it initially.

GinCatsBooks

I really love Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, its a wonderfully sharp freshie for the summer and its so easy to just grab and spray without thinking too much when I have no idea what to wear. Recently I went to John Lewis and saw the Jardin line testers and decided to have a try of them all, well, not exactly all since after sampling this I prematurely ended testing and grabbed a bottle.

Un Jardin En Mediterranee is a unique blend of soft, fresh citruses, delicate florals and fresh smokey, woody nuances which makes for an unusual, refreshing summer or easy reach scent, its far removed in my opinion from the ubiquitous "lemony" type summer scents and has some real guts to it thanks to a sappy fig leaf note and cypress.

The opening is a cooling fanfare of lemon, bergamot and orange, but I also get a hit of greenery from the fig leaf straight from the get go, as time passes, I start to notice a fresh yet dainty orange blossom and another floral note which I can only assume is white nerium oleander; but I don't just get the florals, I also get more of the fig leaf but something smokey and maybe a little bit medicinal, possibly the cypress and red cedar mixing with juniper and possibly the pistachio, the way that this scent dries down is seamless and it never really loses its brightness or cool/cold feel, it also still smells as fresh in the later stages of the drydown as it does upon aplication.

The longevity is great with it lasting on my skin between 6 to 8 hours from 4 spritzes and a moderate silage, Mediterranee is so wonderfully versatile; it wears excellently for casual wear whilst giving off a very "put together" vibe and can be worn more formally as well. I've been wearing this during the UK winter and despite it being more of a spring/summer scent, it doesn't smell or feel "wrong" in any way, one reviwer mentioned that this straddles the lines between being playful and smart, which I 100% agree with, its a staple scent in my wardrobe along with Un Jardin Sur Le Nil for the warmer months, but, I actually think I'll keep this out year round since it just works so damn well!
Repurchase? for sure!

kiaoi

This scent makes me feel like I brushed my skin against plants and bushes on a shore, while walking on a path that leads to the beach. Right away I feel a citrusy granita scent, an Italian traditional shaved ice drink. It’s fresh and summery but it has a comforting note in the middle that I cannot pinpoint, maybe it’s the musk note coming through, a relaxing note that makes me think of a cooler summer night. I can see why it has been voted as similar to Fly Away by Mugler, it has definitively the same green vibe. It’s a bit mysterious to my nose, maybe it’s the fig leaf note that I am not used to. Not my favorite from the line, but definitively an intriguing, fresh and citrusy scent.

valencia

Really love this scent. First time I tried it, to my nose it smelled quintessentially Hermes - elegant, polished, clean with that classic Hermes citrus. The fig in this softens the citrus notes. In the summer months it offers a delicious juicy respite from the hot weather, with good sillage and longevity, but not overwhelming. I could smell it on my hair and clothes the following day. I love that it is very versatile, in my opinion, because it also smells ‘smart’ in colder months vs ‘playful’ in hotter weather. It’s easy to wear casually or for smart occasions - think crisp silk shirt and chic silhouette.

venussansfurs

A real freshie, perhaps a bit too much so for my liking. I don't get much fig out of this, it's more juniper, cedar, cypress and some citrus. Quite the North African Mediterranean and would be better for men in my opinion.

MilkteaIsBoba

I got a small sample bottle of this perfume from the Sephora garden set, I like this scent the most and really recommend this to people who love fresh scent. To me, this perfume smells like a cup of icy sweet lime juice chilling on the table next to where you sit on the beach, or a very citrusy soap, very opposite comparisions, I know. The smell is very refreshing, summer-like, but can be a little too overwhelming if you put too much on. I don't really smell other notes on my skin at all, which is a shame, but I still like it enough to get the full size. If you like something sweet or floral, this may not be for you. My skin has been pretty good at pertaining perfume smell, so 2 sprays last me around more than half a day, but sillage isn't too good. I'd say this is the perfect feminine scent for summer and late spring, but can be used as a signature scent too.

Swett7sour

I love it so much that I could wear it all the year round at any event and any situation. The problem is that it vanishes too quickly. For the price it costs, it should last much longer, but perhaps it is only my problem.

Klockrike

Absolutely love the smell of this cypress fig blend. Unfortunately I find the sillage and longevity lacking, I wish it lasted more than an hour or two on my skin.

marialena888m

At first spray, I get a cooling minty/green/herbal smell, very refreshing, citrusy...then it gets figgy, slightly sweet, green, woody, wet. Ah, it’s beautiful. I love Apres Mousson as well. Perfect for hot days. Unisex that leans slightly feminine.

ambergeese

On me, this is soapy like a bar of scented milled hand soap you absentmindedly take a whiff of in the cashier line at TJ Maxx. In the first few seconds, the soap has a welcome, refreshing green twist; within a minute, however, the green freshness evaporates, and what's left is a run-of-the-mill (lol) floral soap with a mild fresh edge. I don't think this scent is for me, either as a fragrance to wear or as a bar of hand soap, and I really can't find much else to say about it. This is an upscale soap that makes me think of hot summer days at some sort of pool, or maybe even the ocean, with a hint of chlorine or salt in the air and trees at the periphery of my vision. Maybe it's a faint sunscreen that I'm smelling, perhaps in the milkiness of the fig leaf. The florals overtake the freshness more and more with each passing minute. This is a faint summer scent with light performance, and it is not for me, but it would make an interesting and nostalgic hand soap to use with hot water in the winter when longing for warmer days.

alphairone

Evergreens in the summer sun; the bright, piquant tones of cypress and juniper greet my nose after dousing myself with Un Jardin En Mediterranee. I immediately recognize what seems to be Cupressus lusitanica essential oil, also known as Mexican Cypress, which has this intense berry tone in addition to its coniferous, resinous qualities. Whether Ellena used it or not is up for debate, but what I detect certainly lends a distinct, alluring quality, melding with the other top notes. Also, fig and pistachio come in about ten minutes into the dry down, with green, lactonic, almost salty impressions.

What I love about this is that Ellena created the suggestion of tree resins and sappiness, which can't merely be recreated with just any natural, raw perfume materials; he added carefully chosen elements to create a full picture, this ambience, really the feel of being within the headspace of these trees and plants, with little else to embellish the experience. It strides along as a mellow sheath—this one is now a showboater, but a "draw you in closer" scent, simmering for several hours on my skin, getting somewhat muskier and more cedar-like over time.

fyetan

Intensely citrus and herby at the top. The cypress and fig are immediately noticeable.

Very unisex, dries down as a citrus green. I don't get much of the orange blossom at all. Would be a great hot summer perfume, refreshing and bright. Longevity is not bad for a citrus, about 3 hours top to bottom.

I personally prefer a sweeter touch to my perfumes, but wouldn't mind smelling this on others at all.

sea3side

Unfortunately now wow factor for me here. On my skin, it is fig from beginning to end. I like fig as a note mind you, but for some reason the other lovely notes here are completely lost. I should have taken the advice of the woman at the Hermes shop. She said, "Madame, this is not my favorite"..........

lillybethholmes

This is a lovely fig scent. Starts off with the same freshy zesty G&T vibes as the rest of the 'Jardin' line, but that very soon gives way to a beautiful, green leafiness of fig sap and conifer. A very clean and uplifting scent, possibly leans more masculine with the fresh spice and musk, but very happily sits feminine too. Really very pleasant. Doesn't blow me away but definitely a keeper.

kallico

This is the best “Jardin” in my opinion. I can’t think of a fresher perfume. This scent makes me feel so happy and serene, I need to get my hands on a full bottle!

PrincessAriel

What an incredible work of art. I don't think I could wear this everyday, but this transports you to a...well...mediterranean garden! It is very pleasantly gender fluid. I would love this on a guy, but also would love to wear this any summer day where I'll be outside in the evenings. There is something immediately spicy about this one that really grabs your attention. If that were the main note, and if that lingered it would be too much. However, the way this unfolds on your skin is truly beautiful. I don't think I have eloquent enough scent vocabulary yet to describe the captivating complexity of this fragrance.

bbFrag4dd1ct

Immediately on the skin, the juniper/cypress is the strongest note, but over time it slowly fades. After 5-10 minutes the other notes begin to gain strength, and after 30 minutes it smells more evenly balanced between the evergreen and sweet florals.

I'm not a fan of evergreen scents - pine, juniper, etc. - too much or too strong of the scents tend to give me headaches. But this smells very interesting, and the juniper is the main reason. Without it, this would smell like skin, but elevated, something sweet and vaguely floral, which would smell amazing, but it runs the risk of smelling too mainstream. The juniper adds a smoky evergreen, almost minty, element that makes this smell almost wild, away from the constraints of civilization, but still classy...it's an interesting dichotomy...

Subtract the juniper/cypress/evergreen note, and this would smell like the skin of a goddess of love or seduction. As it is, with the juniper, this smells like a goddess of the hunt, or some enchantress living in an evergreen forest, or maybe an evergreen tree nymph...something magnetically beautiful but with a wild edge?

Beautifully blended, smells expensive; despite my usual aversion to evergreens, I still love this.

Kitojj

A bomb of citrus in the first minute, then the green and woodsy notes come along; a slight sweetness is present throughout its entire life, orange blossom is there too, and fig leaf is super present on my skin. Very unisex, although I believe you should wear whatever gives you pleasure. It reminds me of Roger and Gallet fig flower but with some woodsy notes. Overall, a gorgeous fig fragrance, and it screams summer!

CdeBXL

A very unisex scent strong on agrumes, and -especially- conifers: spruce, fir, pine, cypress, cedar, juniper!

Not of the dry autumn/winter time sorts, but late spring time fresh, lush and vibrant green when strobili are out and chlorophyll is high. The fig leaf further adds to the Mediterranean green feel.

On my skin I don't get much floral, if any at all.
In drydown, musk is discernible as is the pistachio, bringing a Maghreb layer to the fresh conifer.

Typical of the craftmanship of Monsieur Ellena, this is an elegant, fresh, yet complex concoction.

atleebreland

I adore Sur le Nil and Monsieur Li, but can't really get on board with Méditerranée. Freshly applied, the cedar is so big and so loud that it's just like opening a bag of hamster shavings. Juniper becomes more obvious as it dries down, but there just isn't enough floral sweetness to balance it for me.

I think I might really like this on a man if it were a bit muskier, but it's not for me.

ScentLoverJen

I really like Un Jardin En Mediterranee! There is absolutely no fresher scent to be found in my opinion. On my skin the citrus fades rather quickly, but I'm left with a slightly sweet and perfectly balanced fig, cedar and juniper that lingers for a long time. Years ago I used to wear The Vert from L'Occitane. Despite them having only a few common notes, I really get The Vert vibes from this.

i originally had philosykos EDT because it smelled wonderfully on my friend, but unfortunately, with my skin chemistry it didn’t work out. however, un jardin en mediterranee by hermes had a different experience for me.

with the opening of this fragrance, you get a citrusy brightness as if you're peeling juicy mandarins and lemons for a delicious refreshing drink, as it gets into the heart notes, you get a soft enveloping floral touch, and finally, the spiciness that emerges from the fig leaf and cypress, which has a gorgeous sparkling effect. un jardin en mediterranee is playful, fresh yet elegant - perfect for the spring and summertime.

vos

I tried this one when it first came out and was mesmerized. To me it smelled like a secret hideout in the greenery and conifers of a villa garden in italy. Especially the juniper was lovely. Years later came across this magical perfume again and was shocked. The conifer trees were nowhere to be found. Did my nose change or was it re formulated? Am hesitant to fork out big bucks to try again.

HussamTumma

A unique captivating woody green perfume, a garden in the Mediterranean where sun greets the dew that dwells on the leaves of citrus trees. Air filled with blossoms smell ending up with rich green fig leaves and cedar.
Wearing the perfume is a joy by itself whether it was day or night. It’s performs great during sunny spring and summer time. So far my favorite and will definitely purchase it again in future

glucklich

I've had a few signature scents. Polo as a teenager, Light Blue in college, and Jardin Sur la Toit, until one fateful day at an Hermes store, I spritzed my wrists with this stuff. I've never really had this kind of experience with a perfume before, it's not what my friends wore, or what my mom wore, but when I smelled it I thought, "wow, this is what I want to be associated with!" The fresh, confident and easy nature nature of the fig, the sweetness cut with cheeky spice...it is really an incredible scent.

It's not for everyone, but if it's for you, then you'll be hard pressed to find something else that comes close. Philosykos is probably the nearest, but a little too cloying.

ingeneuxo

-Pleasant, woody scent.
-Clean.
-Makes for a good fresh-out-of-shower fragrance.
-This is what I imagined Bois 1920- Oltremare would smell like. (Based on notes + packaging).
-This gets a strong like.
-However, not full bottle worthy, as longevity is fleeting. (-)

UnjustJoan

Midlife crisis. Hammock-hat too big-no shoes. Utah.

Red Mountain/ Snow Canyon-oasis.
Blowy warm reflections. Sandstone terraces border the juniper. Sticky and pretty.

Slot canyon bare feet & tai chi bubble tea. Vigorous Vichy shower. Figgy feminine. Fluid and flexible flax fiber. Playfully sober. Me in heat.

ayken

To be honest, there is nothing like this out there, and by looking at the ingredient list you can tell that as well.
I didn’t expect to love it this much, I really like the toit and nil, and the rest is meh from the Jardin line, but I hadn’t tried this one yet and after I did... the first reaction after smelling the bottle cap was like meh too, but then it grew on me after i smelt it on the tester paper (don't be fooled by the simple scent from the bottle cap, you should try it on a paper or your skin, then you will see how perfect it is) I smelt something so unique and nice. It is a green freshness, grass-like as in the toit fragrance but it is fairly similar to the nil for its spiciness but this one is definitely more subtle, it's like a more reserved sibling of nil which doesn’t sweep you off your feet right away but with time it becomes your favorite from the rest... It is my second favourite after Toit... man this is so f good.

Gwaredd

It smells like a fancy gin. It's ok at first but I couldn't sit with this on my skin all day. I wouldn't want people to associate this smell with me.

Its not bad at all, it just doesn't work for me.

The Niche Edit

Ahhh my signature fragrance! What more can I say? The name perfectly encapsulates the ingredients and concept behind the fragrance - everything wonderful, sensuous and exciting about the Mediterranean in summer time.

On my skin I mostly get green fig leaf, citrus and juniper. I've gone through so many bottles that I've lost count and I'm quite pleased that it is not as popular as it is haha.

anyanareden

When I first spray it, I smell green. Just green and honey for some reason. I smell cedar and just an overpowering scent of leaves with a tiny bit of bergamot.

Then the green mixes with lemon and a tiny hint of floral scent.

After 30 minutes of wearing it, it still smells green, but now it also smells a little bit masculine now, with some sexy man kind of musky zestiness. I do not smell pistachio and orange at all.

frusia

This. Is. A. Goddess. I really didn't expect to like it this much.

On my skin it's not that fresh, it's rather warm in a summery way, like sitting in the shades of aromatic trees in the middle of summer.

Jacquis

Un Jardin En Mediterranee is a very herbal and green spring/summer fragrance. Great lasting power and very unique. The Hermes garden series last greater than 12 hours on my clothing. I overspray them and cannot complain. There is a slight melancholy to the scent which I also find in Gucci Memoire d'une Odeur. Like a chamomile effect. I enjoy wearing this fragrance in summer but my husband and kids do not like it. Thank goodness that I wear fragrances for myself.

gildedcrystal

This is my absolute favorite warm weather fragrance that I own. I find it so unique and beautiful and I wear it often.

mutatismutandis

Un Jardin En Mediterranee is another excellent perfume by Hermes in the garden series. Another superb effort by Jean-Claude Ellena.

It's a soft perfume which becomes a skin scent fairly swiftly but it lasts a surprisingly long time. I get seven and a half to eight hours before I have to press my nose into my arm to smell it.

I find that it opens with a green blast, some fruit, something of a figgy coconut vibe and once the fruit has gone the rest remains. The smell reminds me in some ways of Diptyke's Philosykos (but better) and also of Monotheme's Mediterranean Coast (but longer lasting). It's one that can be worn easily by both sexes. It seems more obviously for day wear than the night as it does for the warmer weather rather than the colder weather but I wouldn't put you off trying it in those circumstances.

It might just be the best fig perfume.

wdfbhootn

I love this better than philosykos of diptyque

Green02

A summer fragrance that smells very green. A fragrance that will make you feel in a garden full of greenery.

stalal

This one is true love for me. Perfect summer perfume. I wish it lasted longer though. It’s fresh, not sweet, that piercing fig is wonderful and I haven’t smelled that in any other perfume. Summer signature

adice

Woody, herbal, fruity and fresh. This is a calm/mellow/grounded/friendly person sort of scent. So easy to wear for daytime especially in the summer. Not much sillage and moderate lasting power but that's OK for this type of warm weather scent. Love it!

I'm not exactly a connoisseur of fig fragrances (it's not a top favorite note of mine) but so far this is one of my favorites over others I've sampled like Philosykos, Capri Forget me not, Ichnusa, Womanity Eau pour Elles, Indigo, Premier Figuier, etc. Though I still consider Ninfeo Mio the best in the "fig tree garden" genre.

nicolasnmc

Smells like sap from a fig tree with some supporting green notes. Very cedar intensive which I personally love being a huge fan of cedar. This is probably the “heaviest” wearing experience from the line yet still fairly light to wear. Personally I’d love to wear this fragrance specifically in the spring or fall but especially the fall. The tree sap smell really takes me to Autumn. This projects nicely for ~4 hours at arms radius and from there falls into a skin scent for me. This is probably the most masculine of the Jardin series and my second favorite only barely under Sur Le Nil.

Frangipanilove

This is an amazing, zesty, uplifting, hot weather scent. We have been suddenly blessed with not warm, but hot and humid summer days here in south of England and this is one of the scents that has just been a complete pleasure to surround oneself with. Its delicious and delightful, and like its name, makes me think of mediterranean sunshine and breeze and lush gardens dripping with flowers. Whereas both un Jardin de Monsieur Li and Un Jardin sur le Toit have a leaning towards more masculine end of the unispectrum, this, to me, leans more to the feminine. Its citrucy, yellow, sunshine with a touch of aromatic and a hint of woody just to give it structure. I absolutely love the Un Jardin sur le Nil, which for me is the best of the series, this is a bit ‘easier’ and more familiar but complex enough to keep the nose interested. Its really the mediterranean sun in a bottle. Love this.

snoopyQ

I finished my 100 ml bottle.
This perfume has been my light-hearted-mood- uplifting scent that I would spritz on in the mornings to wake up my tired mind and go to work.
It is an aromatic ”perfume”. I love the prominent cypress note in the opening. It is very fresh and clean,
Fun-fact: When I bought it I actually wanted to buy Jo Malone Wood Sage and Seasalt but abstained from doing so due to its’ bad lastingpower.
This one does NOT last much longer! You spritz it on and then after 1 hour it is basically gone.
I won’t repurchase it for now but might in a few years after finishing my Rosabotanica by Balenciaga which is a stronger more rose based interpretation of the same type of scent.

FlirtBoy

For me this is one of the most pleasant and relaxing colognes I´ve come upon...that smell of lush green garden full of fig trees is absolutely perfect and there is also certain nostalgic vibe in that (as more fig-themed scents emerged in late 90s/early 00s - Ferragamo pour Homme, Dune pour Homme, Philosykos, Marc Jacobs for Men) which immediately transports me 20yrs back. Lovely green fragrance that is great for spring/summer.
I must admit I´ve never been a great fan of Hermes as I found their colognes often lacking in both longevity and projection but I sincerely hope they´ll never stop producing this one (and Equipage Geranium) ♥

rebred

Love this aromatic floral.

On my skin it starts with a very fresh cedar and fig and gentle white floral that dries down green and fresh and woody. It's a happy, lovely summer scent. Definitely for day time wear.

I'm not normally a fan of woody scents, but this one works well and is well balanced with bergamot and orange blossoms. A bit like walking through an orchard.

Over the course of the day, I found myself noticing and enjoying the scent.

This is an enchanted forest smell. The opening is a bit spicy (probably the citrus mixing with the woody base notes) but once this dies down it transforms in a wonderfully balanced sweet woodsy smell. This sweetness of the scent is definitely activated the longer it sits on this skin. It truly provides a whole experience as it unravels and twists and turns.

My boyfriend does not love this one however, I think it is just too "weird" for him. Perhaps it is the slight bitterness of the woodsy notes. I don't care at all though, I am addicted!

zind

Such an interesting experience for me as Ihave nothing like this in my collection. I stumbled upon this and Apres la Mousson on sale and bought them both. I was intrigued by the challenge as I was always fascinated by women wearing these type of scents and usually caught myself thinking I could never pull them off myself. I almost feel like an imposer wearing this, but I enjoy the olfactive experience and absolutely concur that this is a great scent. Absolutely no sweetness and very well composed. No regrets about my purchase!

Update: the more I wear this the more I love it. So, so beautiful. Now I get quite a bit of sweetness too and I even prefer it over Apres la Mousson (which was initially my favorite of the two). I find I have to apply a lot, but that is definitely something I can live with!

correspondencepersonal

This is hauntingly beautiful, reminds me of the photos that I've seen of Greece with the beautiful ocean set in the background and the gorgeous architecture and clean lines set against the backdrop of the ocean.

This is fabulous. The notes in this are just the type of fragrance that you really need to feel cool, calm, and collected in the hotter summer months. A vacation in a bottle! This fragrance is fresh, calming, oceanic. It does not have the typical warmer more sensuous vanilla and amber vibe-- or floral vibe that I'm normally drawn to. I'm normally drawn to more "cozy" fragrances, notes that make you want to curl up with a good book, or your honey. The notes in this are expansive, like an ocean breeze. This is in a fragrance tribe all to its own.

Others have mentioned this too, a light grassy-ness quality to it. This is a slight chemical smell which resembles Estee Lauder's White Linen, the original Chloe, Woman by Ralph Lauren -- these all cause a physical reaction, a symptom where there's a slight scratchiness in the back of my throat, wheezing (it could be me, I'm very sensitive, grew up with allergies and asthma, so therefore -- I really have to watch over doing it). Due to this particular blend of chemistry, I have to watch this and make sure that I don't spray too much of it, or in a room which doesn't have good ventilation. This is potent, a little bit of this will go a LONG WAY! Other people who are sensitive to this may be more prone to avoid you. This is definitely something to watch if you are in closed spaces or in meetings, at the theater, at school, etc...

However, the blend of this perfume is lovely!
I love this, truly I do!

witch_mum

For me, it's still the mother of all fig scents, although some other brands have entered earlier onto the fragrance market. Remembering on a wonderful holiday on Mallorca, surrounded with nothing else als fig smelling bush (however it's been an other plant).
I set it aside for a longer while from some personal reasons but never taken out from my fav's list. Now I use it very often again and ask myself how was I able to go without this during the hot summer days for many years.
The liquid in my bottle is much more darker than at the beginning but it has no impact on the quality of the scent.
Perfect longevity and sillage.

Karmanae

This is very unpleasant when I smell it directly after the first spray. It’s this dirty, wet, grassy note that is very off putting. But... BUT I let it settle on my skin for about 10 mins and now it’s starting to come together. There is still this green note that lingers in the background but that’s the point right, i mean the perfume’s name is Un Jardin. This is appropriate for the spring and summer imo. It puts me in the mindset of a boujie yet down to earth auntie. She has a lot of money and shows up to all the cookouts on time but she’ll still kick your a** in a game of spades lol

Bottom line, I like it. Would I pay full price? No. If I find it on sale I’ll snatch it up.

Navi69

I love this perfume so much ...i detect beautiful sandalwood in the dry down ..but didnt mention n in notes about sandalwood...anybody agree on it ??

KatieKeene

This is awful on me at first smell. It's overly bitter and sort of grassy to me. Then it mellows and all comes together and I like it a whole lot more. Very unique, and I don't regret the blind buy (although it's definitely not the first thing I'll reach for). Might smell better on my boyfriend.

EDIT: After wearing it a few more times I've really come around to it. It's a lot different to everything else I own so I guess that's what it was that threw me off initially. I really like the freshness of this, the fig leaf and herbs together...it helps my mood a lot, what with the whole being stuck inside thing happening right now.

eaudemale

This is a more gender neutral Chanel 19.. sour orange blossoms with a herbal fig note and citruses, accompanied by a lightly smoky dry-down, always fresh and mysterious. Well blended into a natural potion, a potent summery classic with lots of personality.

molly1217

Sentimental of bergamot, juniper touch of bitter cold, with a very soft figs, cypress aroma. Imagine walking on the beach, the sea swept over the ankle, feeling the wind blowing head, sprinkled on the face of the sun, listening to the rustling palm fronds.
Do not hate bitter taste, would recommend it!

yousif_dia

its so fresh , so unique , and a good compliment getter with siliage and longivity considered good for a fresh perfume, when i first bought it my feeling was like its ok but its not a beast but after wearing it for a few more times i started loving it.

nerolyan

Wow, so good, unique yet familiar! I'm getting many notes that aren't listed, such as plum, sichuan pepper, tomato... At first I actually thought this was a tomato fragrance, smells just like it. The cade adds such a pretty and deep quality to it... The dry-downs of every Jardin are very good, a bit feminine but still in the unisex area (except maybe Un Jardin sur le Toit, rather feminine). I think this one is my favorite with Un Jardin sur le Nil. I'm pretty sure you're safe blind-buying it, but at this point you should order a sample of every Jardin. Try em out!

SNOOPY

As with most of Ellena’s work this is more evocative of a place in nature than a person or event.
For me it is a vacation in Cyprus with the hot dry air and vegetation.
Maybe i would wear it if i wear there again.

marcel2782

Here the center is the fig leaf - yes, another competitor among so many perfumes that have fig as the center of attention. This fig leaf is sweet-silky, I feel an almost coconut-like aspect (something common in perfumes with a fig note), very pure, non-creamy and maybe a tiny bit soapy. Satisfactory performance.

tessiebee

This is swamp water. It smells dank and deep, full of cypress and bitter juniper. Im sure it's excellent craftsmanship but at the end of the day, I don't want to smell like a swamp.

SeaElle

This scent is so unusual for me. A few others have called this scent a rollercoaster and I completely agree. At times it moves dramatically, much like a pronounced peak or valley on a rollercoaster. Other times, and most impressively for me, it seems to oscillate ever so slightly - swaying or maybe just vibrating - between two related but unique moments. It reminds me of how heat undulates over hot asphalt in the summer.

The only thing that stops me from buying a full bottle of this is that about 10-15 minutes in, something emerges that is very much like stale cigarette. It’s strange, and I have no idea what I’m perceiving that gives this impression. It will fade, and as I mentioned above, ripple in and out for the duration of the scent. This is another great tragedy of this scent; it doesn't last nearly long enough. Overspraying will prolong it, but it also amps up the power of each individual note quite a bit. This can make perceiving subtler nuances for this one difficult; some of the undulating between notes fades.

All in all, a fascinating and impressive scent, but worth testing on your skin first. Even if you don't plan to buy a bottle, all fragrance lovers should just this a try just to experience the whirling, twirling, Mediterranean joy ride that this one is.

giselle.sievers

This is such a wonderful Fig Tree in the whole, with some pistachio and orange blossom brought by the hot Italian Sirocco winds. Being a Fig Maniac, I would place this scent as high as Godly Philosykos, its complexity is even bigger than it...However, on my skin chemistry UJEM has a major downfall:very low longevity. I judge the formula very weak too, if only it was stronger and stayed longer, this would be my favourite scent of all times. Im so disappointed my skin eats this out in less than 1 hour, they could reformulate this one with a better and extract-like fixative, resinous or animal one. I imagine how potent it could be with ambergris added to. Well, Olivia Giacobetti has won the race for the perfect Fig, sorry Jean Claude!

SebaM83

Everyone has very good descriptions about Un Jardin en Mediterranee, but, quoting Phoebe from Friends: "...fine answers, but we were looking for leafy, L E A F Y". XD

I love it, I don't know why I kept buying other frags over this masterpiece from Jean-Claude Ellena.

Atarisa

Just bought this perfume after fell in love deeply with Un Jardin Apres La Mousson. But sadly no matter how hard I try to love it, there's something in it that make me dizzy and nauseous. Maybe it's fig or something else I dont know.

I have to give this perfume up with broken heart ;(

Beyonder

An emotional journey, teeming with trees and flowers, shade and light. A charming walk where we meet orange trees, fig trees, red cedars and white laurels. An invitation to discover an unusual place in the Mediterranean: a protected garden, almost secret. Located in a timeless space, on the border of sand and sea, somewhere near Tunisia. The perfumer Jean Claude Ellena visited Hammamet and for Hermes, he composed a trail with sunny and magical scents. Thumbs up for this lovely sunny summer scent.

Coquita

This is awesome. Its 35°C in Rome, and after 1 spray on my neck a very realistic fig tree scent dominates the composition, while the other accords change as time passes: first juniper and cypress, then the flowers. It's impossible for whoever grew up as a Mediterranean kid not to smile: this scent is just too familiar, smells like summer holidays :)

2/27/20 Update: I'm trying it in combination with Philosykos, and I have to say the astringent notes of UJeM just blend exquisitely with the creaminess of Philosykos. Glorious. If you have both, give it try; you won't regret it.

I went to Sephora for the first time looking for a perfume that would become a signature scent. I tried many perfumes and they were nice but they just weren't "it". I spritzed this on a fragrance strip and I was absolutely mesmerized. Immediately off the bat, I smell cedar and cypress notes mixed with the bergamot and a lemon note. I have no idea what a fig leaf smells like, but if this is it, I want my whole house to smell like it forever. The scent is strong, and the presence is strong, but not overpowering. I can smell this on my self all day long when sprayed on the inner elbow. I have currently been wearing this perfume for 9 hours and it is still noticeable at a 2 foot distance from me. Note, that I have only sprayed 1 big spray on each elbow and a spritz behind the ears. This fragrance to me says, " I am walking through a golden wood in a Mediterranean climate with a citrus grove nearby. maybe there is a big fountain somewhere next to a flower market.

This scent is heaven to me. I have let many people at my work smell this fragrance and thave have all had really positive things to say about it.

irfanabuhadi.1

I have been using fragrance since my teenage years and writing about my experience about them for a while now. Every now and then, I come across a fragrance that totally mesmerizes me because I have very hard time deciphering the notes throughout its various stages of evolution.

Un Jardin En Mediterranee Hermès, created by master French perfumer Jean-Claude Ellenais, is most definitely one of them.

Although the notes breakdown on Fragrantica mentions it as woody aromatic, but let me assure you that this is a real understatement. This one is a real roller coaster experience with multiple levels and layers of notes from fruity fig to herbal pine to citrus and the show goes on and on.. And then when you finally sattle on a definite note, a fresh whiff of sweetness hits you every now and then, completely taking you by surprise and you are back to square one of your olfactory journey..

Performance is solid 6 to 8 hrs with 4 to 5 sprays and excellent silage..

What an amazing experience and What a wonderful niche level fragrance..
I highly recommend you to explore this magic in a bottle and share with us what notes do you pick up in it..

UPDATE: If you are lamenting the poor longevity of Un Jardin en Mediterranee and are not averse to trying a fragrance inspired by it, may I suggest Babylon by Alexandria. In fact, I like Babylon even better than UJEM. And that's saying something. Babylon stays better and has a richer feel. Granted I may not be the most sophisticated nose on the block; but, to me, Babylon is bang-on. Babylon matches UJEM's notes almost verbatim. I think Babylon's creator, Hany Hafez at Alexandria, is a genius. More accessible price point than UJEM. Great value (unless for some reason you have to have Hermes).

Even though UJEM is classified as floral aquatic, I detect something slightly sweet in it. Maybe this is attributable to the fig (leaf) note. Not nearly as sweet as a gourmand or any of the fruity sugar bombs out there, though. Just a hint of sweetness. It serves to make this fresh, green, summery beauty all the more interesting and complex. I fell hard for this one, Luca Turin review notwithstanding! Pity UJEM has so little staying power.. I realize it is only an EDT, but still...

This really is like layers of silk sheets moving and changing in front of your face. It reminds me - a lot actually - of the spicy/woody dry down of Declaration d'un soir Cartier.
But this changes more. I smell this and think hmmm interesting and go back to look for that same note on another sniff but that note is replaced or metamorphosed, one of the silk sheets has moved exposing a slightly different facet.
Fairly versatile for the Jardin line.

What a rollercoaster!

One of the most complex and multi layered fragrances I have smelled so far.

It starts with a big blast of fig leaf and cypress. So astringent and bitter... I was not blown away with the opening and disappointed at first.

After 10 minutes the acidity is curbed and now floral notes come to stage. So realistic, nostalgic, Mediterranean. It brings me to the springs I enjoyed during my childhood in the west coast of Turkey.

The floral notes live on quite a while, together with fig leaves. Totally unisex, totally natural. For me this is the ultimate smell of spring, innocence and freedom.

Quality: Excellent,
Silage, longevity: Adequate.

A must smell, especially if you are into natural smelling fragrances.

I consider this a masterpiece. At first is smells exactly like fig leaves. Reminds me of summer at my village where we used to cut the figs straight from the tree and eat them. It's dry and sweet. It's fresh and but not very soapy. And then dries down a bit floral from the flowers but still the leaves linger on. Extraordinary.

if you like this you may also like calvin klein ck2. ..not in2u... the ck2.... fig + cypress in this one behaves like wasabi smell on ck2. .. minty vibe fresh leaf smell... i like both

Un Jardin en Méditerranée Is the most dried woody in the line.
After trying all the Jardin line, this is kind of most dried in the family, it open with strong “fig leaf” not fresh not watery, but dry... sometimes it reminded me of real dry tobacco leafs, it naturally smell of fig leafs (very very natural), surround by “Jardin’s DNA” that’s green, spice and crisp. When the concept is Méditerranée I always imagine about “sea note” in it but no, there’s no sea note, or salty in this fragrance. This fragrance doesn’t change so much from open to dry down... it keep as fig leafs and green and stay that way.

Scent : 8/10 ( Very very natural fig leafs scent and niche quality )
Project: 7/10 ( A little bit less than La Mousson, but better than another)
Longevity: 6/10 ( 4 hours mostly)

I can’t say I love this scent, but have to accept this quality scent, it so naturally and relaxing... probably not my most favorite in the line. Anyway if you love the niche quality and fig you may probably love it.

Jacquis

I received this fragrance in a splash bottle and applied it as such. Un jardin en Mediterranee is a refreshing burst of oranges and lemon tempered with light florals. It is also green herbal and rich. The longevity of this EDT is surprising. It has been 5 hours and it is still very strong on my skin. It is performing beautifully on this 86 degree day. I purchased the travel set with 4 of the Un Jardin EDT. Can't wait to try the others as well. This is full bottle worthy. Great for hot, steamy weather.

mexceptional

I smelled it the first time at the airport after my holidays in Sardinia and I fell in love. It was a scent of summer! It's fresh, sweet but not powdery sweetness, for me smells like a herbal/ fruity tea not in the synthetic way. Absolutely beautiful. Everything about this product is great, the smell, the colour, the name and the bottle. And it is Hermes, it wasn't cheap. How surprised I was when on my first day of wearing it no one noticed. It last on my skin for an hour only! Completely not compatible with my skin.

modranch

I got a sample of this years ago, and found it to be way too green and masculine at first smell. But the more I've sampled it, the more I like it. I know people say fig but for me I mainly smell the cypress; it's fresh, peppery, and grassy. It warms up a bit as it dries and the cedar appears. I don't know that I would ever buy a bottle of this (my husband hates it, and though I like it its not something I would want to smell like all the time), but I think its unique and enjoy it immensely on occasion.

Anteatereatingant

This one is really nice out of context, but not worth the money.

The fragrance is beautiful and perfectly encapsulates summer or early autumn in the rural Mediterranean (I should know, as I am from there!)

The fig is intensely green, crisp, fresh and uplifting, and the bergamot perfectly accompanies it. The other notes listed don't really register for me, but they might just add more 'depth' to the fragrance. It's very naturalistic and evocative. It really does smell like home.

It also, to my surprise, smells almost exactly like Acqua di Parma's Fico di Amalfi, but it's noticeably cheaper. So here's your pro tip for the day!

Just like Fico, though, it's plagued by soft silage and very little longevity. It's gone within the hour, even on a cold day - I'll assume that on a hot one it would evaporate almost immediately. Beautiful and I'd definitely buy it for significantly cheaper, but not for its real price.

Why is it so damn hard to find a fig perfume that has any longevity?! Fig is technically one of my favorite notes, but every perfume I've tried is anywhere between weak and very weak! Any tips are welcome.

lsivokhina

Did anyone else thought thait it smelled like hops or beer? I did...It’s a pretty nice and well-blended perfume but the “beer-like” note on my skin turned me off. It could be all the woods and amber mixed together or the fig leave - not sure. I will give it another try in the summer and see if anything changes.

piahellgren

Fig, strong cedar, cypress and glowing greenery, citrus that shines warmly, but dryly. I want to cry its so beautiful. It's juicy yet dry which is genius and not common. Great work, Ellena. The beach rose makes it lovely and without it it would have been too astringent. Now - perfection. My man and I go to Leros each summer. It's a perfect island in the Dodecanese islands in south eastern Greece archipelago. It smells just like this there. Paradise. Grassy and bright, earthy and dry, smooth yet because of the stunningly realistic citrus aspects.

patricia.favron

I have a sample vial. This is very nice, it is mostly green and citrus to me. When I smell this I picture going to lunch on a hot sunny day on a Caribbean resort. Or stepping out of the shower in your villa on that same day, before an afternoon nap.

justfloral

After spraying: seared wood, sticks + tobacco
After 5 minutes: out from underneath emerge notes of rose + geranium + lemon balm + savory + iris note in the background (reminds me of Hiris).

Wood of deciduous species is similar to that in Eau Des Merveilles, the combination of rose, geranium and seared sticks reminds me of Cabaret Gres.

Interesting dry and bitter scent, three dimensional, spacious, elegant.

xmelldefrag

I agree with kwanpekyee.1 that this perfume smells a bit similar to Diptyque L'Ombre Dans L'Eau. That being said, while Diptyque leans more feminine with its dose of violet leaves, Un Jardin En Mediterranee leans toward masculine side of the spectrum.

For me I'd prefer this to Diptyque, but it's just a matter of preference. Diptyque is more refined, comes only in 75ml flacon edp, hence it's more pricey. This one is an edt in a 100ml flacon and can be bought at half the price of Diptyque.

Try before you buy.

kwanpekyee.1

it baffles me that this smells exactly the same as Doptyque L'Ombre Dans L'Eau on me in the dry down..smells like stale tobacco...

Feel so sorry
I love all the leafy notes in both..

Jeannie007

Divine fragrance - it starts with a blast of fig, woods, so live, fresh and strong. develops into subtle and barely perceptible pine forest by the sea after hot hot summer day

Bubbles1964

This is going to be another gushing review for another Ellena masterpiece. Un Jardin En Mediterranee is dominated by the fig leaf, not the pulp. I don't pick up any sweetness, and it's this lack of sugar that makes this a fabulous dry, aromatic Mediterranean scent. One of my summer favorites, and one of my favorite scents with fig.

Sebastiana

Nectar of the Gods. Ellena is a genius.

Dry fig leaves, cypress/juniper, and overripe fruit backing in the sun. A bit like a certain kind of grape becoming a raisin. Dry and dusty. There's sunlight in here, and just a hint of an distant sea. It is a little mystery to me why it doesn't appeal to some, but perhaps they have not wandered through a mid-summer orchard or a vineyard with the sun beating down upon them. Love this scent. Makes me a bit homesick.

frankcgill

Fig then Floral. The thing Ilike is that unlike other fig fragrances this one doesn’t have that over alcohol lysed quality.

sweet2mechii

This one smells awful to me, reminds me of Calyx by Clinique

Reine_des_Neiges

This is my favourite Jardin, hands down.

Sur Le Toit has rose, which doesn't work with my skin.

Monsieur Li and Sur Le Nil are too heavy on the citrus for my taste and so is Mousson while also being too spicy and masculine for me.

But Méditerranée does everything perfectly. It manages the fine balancing act between feminine and masculine magnificently, just like it does with its spices, its citrus and its florals.

It's mostly a fresh spicy scent to me, somewhere in the drydown a very understated, gorgeous floral comes in and the citrus (and again, I hate citrus) is really just a slight complementary note all the way in the background.

This reminds me of warm summer evenings along the Mediterranean or Adriatic. It creates such a vivid image, which is something that I adore in fragrances.

This is absolutely perfect for hot, dry days.

On a negative note I have to mention that while its longevity is very good, its sillage is modest at best; something that holds true for most of the Jardin line.

I've just bought a big bottle of Cartier and have pretty much blown through my perfume budget for this month, but oh my, am I tempted.

endge

I like it and it smells indeed evocative of the Mediterranian, but also very familiar. I rummaged in my perfume cupboard and bingo! Jeanne en Provence Bouquet d'Agrumes +cypress+fig leaf+cedar+50€ = Hermes Un Jardin En Mediterranee. The difference is that UJEM evolves with time, becoming greener, lighter and more aquatic, whereas BA does not (take it as a good or bad sign), smelling from beginning to end like an orange blossom and mandarin peel. Neither one lasts more than 3 h on my skin. I want to believe that UJEM is done with better materials, but, regardless, in the first 15 min I cannot tell them apart. AT ALL. I would buy Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and Le Jardine de Monsieur Li again and again, but there is no point in repurchasing this one.

Walkure

Sweet and fruity.

/ Slight idea of fig
/ Mostly sweet blend of fruits and florals.

Pleasant but could use some complexity.

7/10 | Poor-Mediocre Performance

monkey500

This is an interesting scent: I tried a few sprays in-store and it opens with an impressive recreation of my countryside childhood with fresh green odours of what smells to me like nettles and dock leaves but it disappeared within 15 minutes.

Once back outside, the hot sunshine and humid air seemed to revive it for a few hours. Pleasurable but very niche.

JackieM

Collectively the Hermes Jardin collection has really mastered the summer scent. If you're anything like me and you're ready to expand your summer repertoire beyond tropical, coconut scents and the 27th attempt at eau de sunscreen (I have yet to be sold on anything outside of the true original Bobbi Brown Beach, and the EL Bronze Goddess from the Tom Ford collab), this is a really sophisticated avenue to try.

This fragrance in particular is like a wonderful vacation. Less fruity cocktail drink by the pool and more time spent in the outdoors, lakes, rivers. Green fig leaf is pretty irresistible to me, but the cypress really makes me think of standing amongst some big wonderful tress in the hot sun.

For reference, this scent is VERY similar to Rosabotanica, but also to the much more affordable, lesser known CO Bigelow Cashmere Fig. A more distant but still identifiable relative is the Banana Republic 79.
