This is a very pleasant, invigorating, tart and sweet scent! Nothing groundbreaking, but simply lovely.
The rhubarb is prominent here and the overall composition makes me think of tea time with rhubarb cake and ice tea in an English garden on a hot day. Simply lovely!

MadameMerola

Hermes have created some super amazing scents and I have become an avid collector of their perfumes over the past year. I saw this listed for declutter on a friend’s page and I grabbed it even though she kept telling me that it smells odd.

Well, I find it to be delightfully odd and enticing. It’s got the kind of scent mix that is unusual and refreshing at the same time. Yes, it has little to no projection. Yes, it doesn’t last very long which is a big shame because I would love to smell like this for hours on days when I am out and about in the warm climate I live in year round.

I smell the rhubarb clearly and the other notes blend
so well with it. If you are find it highly discounted, go for it. It’s not full price worthy but I am thrilled to have it in my collection because nothing else smells even close to it.

To amp up the scent power, I just layer with perfume oils and get super amazing results and longevity. So don’t give up on it because it is fleeting. Just get some nice perfume oils and use the ones that will compliment the scent.

i dont smell the rhubarb
its a real nose opener it exotic and like something i hane never smelt before

Finally got my hands on a 10ml decant of this . I wore it for 3 days . I love the Hermes line of fresh fragrances. This keeps that characteristic but it also keeps their super weak characteristic. Off the top you do get a ton of rhubarb. It's bitter it's tart it's sweet it's fruity. I'm not the biggest fan of rhubarb so that was already not great for me. But being Hermes and this specific collection it's not surprising that it's a super blast of rhubarb. After about 3 minutes it goes down several notches . It gets fruity and what to me is like a green floral . Once it completely dries and settles down. You mainly get the floral scent with some fruit and a touch of the rhubarb tartness. The musk is just there to just even it all out .
It's fruity green and floral. Very fresh and clean. It's not complex . I wouldn't layer anything with this . Totally a spring summer fragrance. But I think it can be worn in the fall too. This isn't for me but I can appreciate it. Performance it sucks. With the opening you think the tart and bitterness would last since it almost stings the nostrils but after an hour it's just an intimate skin scent . The most I got out of this was 3 hours . That was 3 sprays on my neck, 2 on each inner arm , 1 on my chest and 2 on my chest on my shirt. And yes I had another person smelling me Incase I had become nose blind .

Rhubarb is one of my favorite notes in fragrances. I love a prominent rhubarb. Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate Hermès has been my favorite summer scent for years. That tart but sightly sweet scent is almost mouth watering. In truth, I carry samples of this in my purse and use it all year round. The longevity is negligible to me because it lasts as long as I need it. So refreshing and invigorating. A staple in my closet.

ralleboy02

This is my go-to summer fragrance; a tart, sour, clean and sterile rhubarb smell that dries down into more of a jammy sugary concoction that might be pleasant for some and too sweet for others. In my opinion it quickly starts to smell more like a fruity deodorizer block/urinal cake but in quite a good way.

Don't fret if you are in the latter category and despise sugary scents however, because this perfume's longevity is ABYSMAL. It's an EdC but on my skin it lasts about 1-2 hours before being completely gone. I'm a dude and therefore sweat alot more than the target audience but I'd argue that this perfume is more on the unisex side for sure and I could literally drench myself in a vat of Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate and still smell like nothing getting out.

Since it is part of a popular series and has been around since 2016 you can quite easily get it for cheaper somewhat used if you look online. I have gone through 3 bottles and am on my fourth (remember: shit longevity) and I haven't paid more than 50 EUR for any >90% bottle. This isn't a night perfume nor anything else than a summer perfume; this is a hot summers day scent and that's non-negotiable. It's a great perfume to have in your summer rotation!

Negihak

Initial spray is a realistic rhubarb but it quickly fades and leaves a light generic fruity-white musk scent.

hwhatever

I LOVE this one, it's warm, comforting, sparkly with just a tinge of bitter. But I am so disappointed with the longevity. It disappears in an hour. What a shame.

Vintila R.

I always liked the Rhubarbe note in Perfect by Marc Jacobs but I don't wear that one much because I find it too youthful. When I smelled Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate I knew I'd found a good replacement. I see this as a grown-up fruity fragrance, fresh and clean but still playful. The opening is sharp on my skin with a noticeable green undertone, very realistic but I don't mind because the dry-down is extremely enjoyable. Performance is terrible but It might work if you spend most of your time in enclosed environments (office, home office, etc.). Not everyone recognizes rhubarb in fragrances, it is unique and that's why I think this one is worthy as a signature scent for every day.

Whateverwhocares

Curious blending. The first minute was a beautiful blast of rhubarb over a mild, creeping acetone undertone that thankfully mostly dissipates into a synthetic fruit cocktail, like synthehol; like something Jean Luc from TNG or Alex from Clockwork Orange might drink. Up for a bit of the old in and out, love? Sure, if you're wearing this stuff. Here's a powerful, feminine mix. Check it out.

goiemarius

Why make something so good but weak ? If this would perform somehow, it would be worth the money. Good sillage in good conditions, half an hour. Then it's a soft, clean skin scent.

Gellert77

Exactly my cup of tea: A little tart but a lot sweet and very clean.

I agree, probably one of the more expensive "body sprays" when it comes to longevity but when sprayed (generously) on clothes it lasts for days.

I love it as an after shower indulgence.

Jcm6

I love this one. I have never been particularly interested in a rhubarb scent but I happened to smell it when it launched and fell in love with it - earthy but bright. A few friends have smelled this on me and bought it themselves- then I once smelled it on them and could not place it but was obsessed come to find it was this one. I have not smelled anything else like it.

Essie12

One of the weakest scents I've ever worn.
That being said, it's a gorgeous scent. There's a mystery to it and it smells heavenly. The fruity and aromatic notes balance each other wonderfully.

StllM@gnolia30

A rhubarb-based fragrance is just not for me. This one actually brought back some rather unpleasant childhood memories of a certain cough syrup I had to have during a long bout of bronchial asthma!

smelling.sniffing.swan

The name says it. This is authentic rhubarb.
Invigorating, sparkling rhubarb,
a dash of angostura bitters,
fresh greenery and a mouth-watering tartness,
with maybe some grapefruit or citrus leaves.

Beautifully juicy and airy without being particularly sweet.
A very mature and refined take on summery fruitiness.

A slightly lactonic-musky base that isn't dull.
Comparisons to a high-end hand cream wouldn't be out of place.
Loses a touch of its imagination as it softens down, but generally holds it's character

This one sits very close to the skin, which may be a drawback to some.

VERDICT: Super-summery skin scent. Delicious, natural and unique. Would generally be considered a more feminine fragrance but is absolutely wearable for the modern man. Makes me want to drink cool gin and tonics on a hot sunshiney day.

EDIT: Very sad about how poor this performs, with some better performance it would be a go-to summer fragrance.

AUyliong

So that's what rhubarb smells like. Like a sweet and tart vegetable. It definitely has that vegetable-y from-the-ground scent. But it's not too earthy. It's kinda fruity and refreshing. Acidic and sour as well with just a hint of bitter.

The Rhubarb smells natural. You can tell from the imperfections in the rhubarb. If it was artificial all of those would've been smoothened out to the point of uncanny valley. Nice.

The red berries seem to be a background player here. The rhubarb is gone. Now I'm getting a lot of florals.

Shame this is an Eau de Cologne, meaning it's not long lasting. This would make for a great Eau de Parfum. Feminine-leaning unisex. A guy could still wear this. An EDP concentration could also yield an even more well-blended and luxurious-smelling end product BUT it does still have the classic Hermès DNA of using high quality raw materials that make you smell fresh and rich unlike the last Hermès I tested - the Twilly. Twilly smelled like it was created by a different company. Definitely not Hermès worthy.

Anyway, the scent started to disappear after 15 minutes.

20 mins in, it's almost gone now. Estimated longevity is 30 mins max.

figgypudding

I love the sharp, tangy rhubarb note. This fragrance has inspired me to look for more rhubarb notes. But it doesn't last at all. So delicious, but so fleeting!!!

1. I never imagined finding a fragrance with a Rhubarb note so pronounced in nature, and that I could please myself! Hermès is my Maison for life and yet there are some of its creations that I take years to understand and love, or not.

2. Rhubarb's harsh opening makes it very mature and significantly adult. I would never imagine young people using this wonder here, as it is very conservative in the proposal it presents. Kind of culinary here!

3. Its harsh touch is greenish and dry, managing to hold its juicy fruity punch, but acidic with lively citrus and more freshly plucked flowers still with an earthy smell. Kind of complicated trying to define these facets that the chameleonic Rhubarbo, while noting, manages to print.

4. In me it doesn't bring anything of Red Fruits, but it manages to bring a lot of Musk, bringing a hairy and sensual sensation, it doesn't border on vulgarity, but it is sensual yes, of the gold tooth and the intentional wink. Eau de Rhubarbe Écarlate smells like nothing ever made before!

shuuuuuyi

This was gifted to me by my dad, I personally think this makes a really nice summer fragrance. It's definitely fruity, I love the berries note on this one. If you lean more towards a sweeter and feminine side of the scale then I do not recommend this perfume. I would say it's a tad bit more masculine but still unisex

WitchQueen

Perfect for really hot days, a nice crisp scent. Very little projection or staying power, but sometimes I just want a little pick me up in the morning that will not offend anyone and will go away in a few hours. A classy body spray. 8/10

The man I love wears this, it has incredible projection on him...everytime he passes by with this on I fall more. It's a sweet scent, reminds me of honey and pollen but at the same time it has a masculine and posh undertone that radiates a safe and sophisticated sensation, the comfort of cashmere, the fire crackling in the fireplace. To me and to him as well It's a winter/autumn scent, early spring at best but I bet it can be worn all year long. I wish he did.

I am a fan of Hermes aromas (and a couple of others) and have tried almost all of the feminine and unisex ones from Hermes. I have my favorite cologne from this line which is also my signature scent at the moment.

I tried the EdRE for two days on clean skin without scented soaps or body creams on the skin. It is a tart scent and on me it is the lantana flower scent that pops up. I don't know how rhubard smells, and the berries or the white musk are not detected by my nose. It lasted for about 8 hours, a very good performance for cologne.

I am not a fan of vegetal or fruity scents but this one is definitely unisex, no spices, tart and interesting non the less.

Try it before you buy it, but ask for a sample (2 ml), in order to be able to try it with leisure without spending a lot of money. Don't depend your opinion on just a spray on your wrist or paper, unless you fall in love with it from the first spray.

aaronmilic

Just picked this up in full bottle, along with Neroli Dore and Pamplemousse Rose. I know there's a few others in this collection but these three stood out to me as the best.

This is the strongest of the three, fresh and clean like the others but the top notes stick around a little longer on this one, it's less soapy than Pamplemousse Rose.

I actually hate eating rhubarb, I really don't know how it tastes or smells on its own but it works great here.

A great Spring/Summer scent, with a nice light scent bubble.

washudtoj

Beautiful rhubarb and berry scent. Tart and sweet. If you like rhubarb and don't mind paying the premium price, this fragrance is for you.

fragitiina

Fleeting romance.
This is very pure, genuine Rhrubard scent and an absolute delight, but it lasts maybe 30mins.
In few comments there are suggestions to layer it... I'm curious to try that...

How_to_scent_it

This scent was love from the first sniff. It enchanted me with a perfect balance of sweetness and freshness. I often see that most typical summer fragrances are either very fruity or citrusy, but this one, in my opinion, is a unique one. It has that fruity, juicy, slightly sugary facets that make your mouth water, but at the same time, it has that inviting rhubarb sharpness and lightness, that lifts your spirits up and balances the composition beautifully. This scent really makes me smile and brings joy to my daily life! For those who find longevity and sillage very important, I would say that for a cologne, longevity is quite okay (especially on clothes) and sillage is moderate.

joikgirl

Literal rhubarb heaven. Where I am from, rhubarb is the first thing that starts to grow in spring, so this is a springtime must. Really unique scent.

R.diggity

Fell in love at first. Extremely unique. Washed my face and hands immediately and applied my new scent. Drove 30 minutes to meet a date, and it was completely gone. I’m happy with 2-3 hrs because I switch up colognes often. This was the worst performing cologne I have ever seen. Still sad because it smells so unique.

adaorer

It is like that one song that puts a smile on your face every time you listen to it. This is the first fragrance I bought, it brings me nostalgia and hope, I just wish it’d last longer.

KerriZ

Fresh, fruity, young, and undeniably wearable. I sampled it as a night scent and totally loved smelling both arms as it peacefully drew me into a pleasant night of sweet dreams.

Bertes

I find the opening similar to L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme in a way, that is is just as fresh, juicy, mouthwatering and a little sour as the opening of LDPH.
Regarding the notes, they are not similar. This is way more feminine, although some guys could pull this off.
When I tested it, I was amazed. The rhubarb note is unique and very natural smelling, but other than smelling it as you spray it, this is not a "real" fragrence, it's amazikng, but you can only use it to freshen up, like an Eau de Cologne should be used.

Overall, very pleasant, I would basically fall in love with someone (female) wearing this, but because it doesn't last at all, wouldn't recomend buying it. Only buy it if you don't care about this much money and want to buy an amazing fresh fruity scent that you can freshen up with anytime.

nonijan

I love tarte notes in perfume. The rhubarb opening is great but then it dries down to a sharp shampoo scent on me. I've had my bottle for a year and have barely touched it.

cyclone1391

I was able to sample this at Sephora and promptly ordered a decant of this. My great-grandparents had a very large rhubarb patch that my brother and I would sneak in to and break stalks off and dip in sugar and eat in the summer. My father now has a very, very large rhubarb patch and I'm currently starting my own. Thus this is very sentimental for me. I enjoy refreshing fragrances and this hits the mark. I think this smells natural, but clean and somehow sophisticated at the same time. I would confidently wear this to a medical conference or dinner in the summer. My father noticed it on me and complimented me, and he laughed when I told him it's a rhubarb scent. We then had rhubarb sauce on ice cream after dinner that night.

Kimberly917

Update - I have reapplied RE several times today and am now beginning to smell it. I wonder if the bottle just need to get some air into it. My mother used to grow rhubarb in her garden. My mouth waters every time I think about biting into a stalk of rhubarb. It is extremely tart. When I smell RE I'm reminded of the taste of rhubarb. That's what I was hoping for.

There is a lot of musk in it which is to be expected based on the notes listed. Christine Nagel may have a signature musk because I get a nod toward NR For Her, JM Peony & Suede Blush and Wood Sage & Sea Salt from the musk notes.

I bought a .27 oz travel size of Eau De Rhubarbe Ecarlate EDC back in December of 2022. I have been waiting for warmer weather to start wearing it. I have been wanting to try this for awhile. I sprayed three sprays this morning and waited. I couldn't smell anything. I sprayed three more sprays. I am slightly annoyed at this point because I can barely smell anything. I can smell that I am wearing something but it is so light that it is barely discernable. The only way I can really smell it is if I stick my nose to my arm. I realize this is an EDC but on my skin it's not even hitting that mark. I do like what I can smell when I smell it on my arm. I am going to wear it for several days in a row to see if I can start to make it out. As for now there is no way I would spend the money on a full bottle of this. I'm sad!

Trendkill97

This scent started off the love for the rhubarb note for me. Tart, uplifting, pleasant, subtly sweet, a bit soapy, almost like a red bubble reflecting under the sunshine, brings that picture to mind, such a comforting and happy smell. Definitive cologne, pops and lasts for about 4 hours, unbelievable what magic Christine Nagel has created with such a simple note breakdown, very unique, natural smelling, a true joy to be able to wear this scent to me personally, I don't think there are many other designer houses that do clean, fresh, sophisticated fragrances with this kind of quality better than Hermes. 8/10

Tincel

I hate soap fragrances, but this is a soapiness I can get behind. The mix of rhubarb/berries with musk is very well thought out, the one balamcing the other out. Who knew musk could be so pleasant in the summer. Very good!

Update: I changed this from a 5 to 4 based on its terrible longevity. I am not sure how I did not pay attention to that before buying. Even though I got it on sale, the price is still not justified for a fragrance lasting less than 2 hours.

Second update: Spray on your hair for more longevity!

Bigbrowneyes

This is an interesting one. I hate the opening but LOVE the dry down, especially on clothes. Not sure if I would pay full price tho.

ntlzhng

Compared to Jo Malone's Tangy Rhubarb Cologne, I like this a lot more because it's cleaner and soapier. The JM has a similar rhubarb note but is sour and woodier. Despite JM's track record, the cologne has a significantly longer staying power than Rhubarbe Escarlate. The sourness makes the JM cologne a little riskier than RE's clean, musky dry down. I also prefer RE more because it triggers a pleasant scent memory. The Body Shop used to make a cranberry soap in the aughties and the red berry note is so similar—takes me back to when I was a kid.

Lasura

Sweet, but not too sweet, lovely rhubarb note - I only wish the opening would last a little longer. I find myself adding more quite frequently, just to get that rhubarb again. I often wear this just before bed, I find this scent very soothing. But this works always, day or night, any time.

yukitanonton

It has shitty performance but smells awesome. I tried layered it with Baccarat Rouge 540, guess what... the Rhubarbe Ecarlate's longevity was like amped up three times longer, and its sillage was stronger. Constant waft of rhubarbe greatness. Try it!

lmnsvgz

Sour, tart beginning that turns into a very pleasant, a bit soapy but fresh scent. It is quite unusual and interesting.

jessica.murphy

I absolutely loved this fragrance when I first received a sample, but like many other reviewers, it only lasted about an hour. So, I put the sample on the shelf and moved on. The other day I made an accidental yet fortuitous discovery. I already had on BR540; as I was passing my fragrances, I spotted the Eau De Rhubarbe sample and applied it, completeIy forgetting that I was already wearing BR540. Miracles occurred! I could smell the lovely tart rhubarb all evening, for at least 5 hours. I tried the combination again, this time deliberately applying both, and behold, the same lovely long lasting rhubarb. I personally don't think those fragrances should work together, but somehow the BR540 acts as a longevity booster for the EDR. I'm seriously contemplating a full bottle now that I have serendipitously discovered this odd but effective layering.

stephanienwc

I absolutely adore this. It's tart, sweet and a little bit green. However, after an hour I can no longer smell it and I used 5 sprays.

gabkins

Apparently I did not know what rhubarb smells like. I've only encountered it a couple times in childhood and I just remember the smell of rhubarb to be more akin to celery? To me this smells like rubber. I didn't care for it, but I seem to be in the minority here.

Ash_H

Thatbwoy

This is a true Cologne - in respect of the definition, the true definition of the term. This is light, a little refreshing and a effervescence to it; but the longevity is close to a splash on fragrance.

I am going to enjoy wearing this in the late spring early summer when the heat starts to return to the sun and early evening late summer/early autumn. This is a scent where expectation is that it’s intimate, an impression of the scent doesn’t offensively linger.

A spritz scent that last about 1-3 hours

Cherryzaad

Beautiful but the weakest perfume in my collection. Hermes! Make an EDP or Parfum for this one! Barely lasts the hour.

klioux

This is simple and balanced, yet surprising. Rhubarb and juniper berries are notes I generally avoid for their astringent, puckering qualities. The mix with red berries rounds out the sharpness of the rhubarb into an overall juicy, zingy delight. A great hot weather option.

Edit: so sad to say that the dry down melts the interesting edges of this into soap. If someone can recommend me a green, fresh spicy fragrance that doesn't turn soapy please let me know!

scentofhorses

just an ok fragrance. rhubarb is a versatile note imo but totally ordinary here. a good perfume for layering I think that's what makes it ok.I am aware that it is not very complicated and I respect the effort behind it, but it is a disappointment on its own, especially with the price.

velvetvice

This is an interesting one, quite unique.

It's very lightly fruity, green and a bit tart, I would say it leans more on the feminine/unisex side. Very light and clean.

meganasf

this is so yummy! it's fresh, tangy, and a little bit sweet. i can distinctly tell that this smells like rhubarb! it's right under a love for me currently, but it will definitely be a love in the springtime. this absolutely says springtime to me, and summer if you like!

eljchambers

Absolutely love this, it's sour and vegetal, with a little sweetness underneath. Unique and great smelling. Women bite me when I wear this.

Smelly_ponzu

Rhubarb is pretty prominent and hard to miss at first. Then it becomes generic sweet berry scent you get anywhere. Sort of disappointed. I was expecting more acidity from the rhubarb rather than rhubarb filling in a pie with tons of sugar added to it.

Nqobie0303

My first wear experience:
I adore the combination of this understated scent and, in addition to the elements already mentioned, I also detect watermelon.
I think the perfume is fantastic overall, but the one drawback is that it only lasts 4 hours on my skin and more than 6 hours on my clothes. Since it is spring in South Africa, I am still delighted with my decision and will save this scent for days when I don't want to make a big statement.

COLOREDGIRLSHUFFLE

A second Hermes fragrance I truly like.... this is a bit out of my normal nose palette, but I like it. It smells like the base of a rose and an oriental lily combined at the peak of bloom at night under a full moon. I have no scent profile for rhubarb and red berries, but this perfume is dark, floral, juicy, and coy.

Nana J

I loved it from the moment i dabbed the tester on my wrist💖If I ever had to pick one perfume this would probably be it

soso.sofia

A delightful raspberry tinged zesty rhubarb on a musc base. It is a delicious fruity scent done in an elegant adult way. After a while it mellows down to a skin scent which lasts for many hours. It’s perfect as a summer cologne but with a mischievously juicy raspberry rhubarb twist.

Chinello23

A tart, zingy cup of freshly juiced rhubarb. It’s so special! Such a pick me up for summer. A little shampoo-like on the drydown however, but still very beautiful.

Will definitely grab a bottle of this!

smellworthy

When I imagine a high quality fruity fragrance, this one is first to come to mind. Sweet red berries and tangy rhubarb with just a bit of muskiness and powderiness behind it, it smells like the actual fruit basket in your kitchen. Sucks that it lasts about as long as the latter. It smells amazing layered with vanilla fragrances though and doing so can probably help the longevity a bit.

samaisling

Hard not to like this one and IMO a safe blind buy unless of course you know you dislike any of the notes listed. The rhubarb is the same rhubarb as Delina, which I love, but the effect here is so much more refreshing and interesting whereas the vanilla in Delina can make it feel a bit sweeter and flirty. I doubt it will bother those sensitive to fragrance so very safe to wear to the office etc.

heavyindustry

The scent opens beautifully with an uplifting fruity and tart rhubarb note. This sparkling effervescence had me hooked as soon as I smelled it. Following 30 minutes, the sweetness melds slowly into its clean, soapy white musky base. Despite being a cologne, the scent persists for four hours on skin and it is this sweet white musk that is responsible for the scent's staying power. From there, the drydown is linear. Something in the sweet soapy musk made me think of somebody that used to be familiar to me (which is probably why I pulled the trigger on a full bottle). Other references I have for this musk are Le Jour Se Leves or Memoire de Roses, where the white musk is able to pair completely with its sweeter fruitier or floral elements.

Since owning a full bottle, the lustre of the scent has faded a little as it's an uncomplicated scent that really could be summed up in less than five notes. However, I expect this scent to be an easy reach in warmer, summery weather, so I'll look forward to spraying this without abandon as it warms up in the Southern Hemisphere.

P.S. I find Rhubarb Ecarlate much brighter and more effervescent than Jo Malone's Tangy Rhubarb. Although the latter has better staying power due to its woody base, there is less sparkle in the opener and I find it dull in comparison to the Hermes.

I strongly dislike rhubarb as a food, but curiously, I frequently enjoy it in perfume. It is a less common fruity note that is perfectly bittersweet, adding a nice tartness. Here, it is front and centre, and it was an inspired idea to create a cologne featuring rhubarb as the focal note.

EdRE opens with tart, refreshing rhubarb, tangy yet not bitter. It is sweetened by red berries that emerge after a little while, becoming a really nice red fruit scent. It becomes rosy as it develops further - I'm surprised that rose is not listed. Either way, it's beautiful, like a perfect floral-fruity meets cologne.

Clean musk blurs the edges of this scent as it dries down, still rosy-red but softening as it fades. Sillage is reasonably moderate and longevity is moderate - better performance than other « Eaux » by Hermès.

Feminine-leaning in my opinion due to the rosy sweetness, this is a lovely, light, refreshing take on a floral-fruity. Elegant and understated, it manages to be simple and refined. Creative and wearable in equal measure. Another excellent offering from Christine Nagel. 4/5.

The note breakdown is very accurate. Sweet Berries and Tangy Rhubarb right away. Musk meandering in between those two. I also get a very light floral quality. Not sure if has unlisted floral or it's just the way the notes blend together.

This is not a monster projector, but rather a pretty intimate scent. The sillage is also pretty mellow. It smells very nice and is unisex leaning slightly more feminine. This would be good in warm weather and doesn't have the strength to push through cold weather. Longevity is 3-4 hours on my skin, so I will have to bring a decant on longer days.

Got a tester with cap for $50.....I would never pay full price or anything above $60 even though this smells extremely pleasant.

derby2169

Stunning scent, tart sweet fresh rhubarb start, never being abrasive, literal snapped rhubarb stem.
It transitions into a touch of grapefruit vibe into a velvety soapy musk.
Not very tenacious, but worth it just because of the beauty of the scent.

jellisunc

Reminds me of Jo Malone English Oak and Redcurrant - but this not quite as floral.

Really nice refreshing opening of rhubarb and the red currant mid stays nicely with the base. Solid release and love the use of rhubarb here as it needs more attention in perfumery imo.

DariaFrancesca74

I love rhubarb, its bitter sweet, its fresh and herbaceous smell, its sweetly sour taste, in this wonderful fragrance Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate by Hermès created by Christine Nagel all the potential of this extraordinary rhizomatous plant emerges. The victorious rhubarb combined with red berries with a soft and enveloping musky background. Very pleasant unisex fragrance not to be missed.

violeteme

Usually, I don't like rhubarb and this is no exception. At first it seemed promising as there was some zest, some freshness about it, but soon that all faded and some berry sweetness emerged. Not liking that fruity type of sweetness at all.

annema

Tart rhubarb body spray. Longevity is non existent on me. At the price they are selling it it's a real shame (you pay because Hermès guys) but I bought it anyway as a true lover of rhubarb. Rhubarb is not a popular scent in perfume and it's rather hard to find. It would be a like if I was able to smell it on myself for more than 30min or so.

Since I found Cockatiel by Zoologist (the real rhubarb bomb) I'm ashamed I spent so much money on a rhubarb body spray labelled Hermès.

BaldBoyBaris

It is not a parfum that you will get interested in at the first glance. It is simple, which means it can be boring (yes I had it for almost 5 months and I used to dislike it because it smells like many normal guys in Paris metro so I even spray it as a air freshner), and it can be elegant.
Today I sprayed it before I go to gym. It perfectly covered me with this simple and natural fragrance for around 3 hours, and no sweat smell can be noticed (I used the deodorant but my cloth was sweated), and the smell from my wrists made me feel relaxed from the summer noon.
This parfum can be the one that you buy a 100ml one, use it every day, and never goes wrong.
------

Murder Mittens

My eye goes straight to the Jardin line so I ignored this for a long time. It's so juicy and mouthwatering, perfect for hot days. It's fruity enough to envoke the feelings of eating ripe fruit on a summer evening, but tart enough so it's not cloying. However, do not pay full price for this, as other users have pointed out the longevity is really bad.

PepinoMarino

I smelled this perfume for thw first time at Sephora, i sprayed it on my skinand for the first 20 minutes I did not love it. However, as it sat on my skin I began to like it more and more. A few days passed and I could not get this scent out of my head. It was so fresh, yet sweet and a bit tart. So incredibly elegant, versatile. So as a graduation gift for myself I bought the big bottle. It is definitely a unisex fragrance, but it is not for everyone, I can perfectly see myself and my mom wearing it, but never my dad or my sister.

What to expect: Gorgeous fresh photorealistic Rrhubarb. Saddly the performance is crap. Even in the Madrid heat this perfume fails to project, ive sprayed about eleven times on different spots on my body, and it still does no good. It also does not last very long, about three hours for me, maximum.

If youre going to buy this fragrance i recomend you buy a decanter as well.

I am completely in LOVE, if anyone knows about any similar perfumed where rhubarb is the clear star of the show, please message me.

BrumaJearl

Okay, this smells exactly like the rhubarb in Delina. Exactly! It's very good. Tangy and tart something similar to ginger if you've never smelled rhubarb before. A little spicy in an earthy/rooty way. This was a blind buy and I'm so glad I like it. I got it at a discount though no way I would pay full price because of the sorry performance. It's an EDT so I wasn't expecting much but it's even worse than that. It's so hot here and my a/c unit died. This is fantastic in the heat, something really refreshing about it.

BonjourHarper

Very fresh and tangy, smells like actual rhubarb. I don't get any sweetness from these notes, and it settles down to be quite sour on my skin. Was not pleased, but realized I could fix this with layering another (sweeter) scent! Gamechanger!

Zoffe

Such a lovely tart, "real" rhubarb smell in the opening. Was very let down by how it turned sour on my skin at the drydown.

Update: I've worn this a few times, and it's definitely growing on me. Not sure what happened with the sour dry down the first time I wore it but I haven't had it happen since. Have also tried pairing it with vanilla fragrances and it worked really well that way too.

rubyfruit

I really enjoy the opening – tart, pretty photorealistic rhubarb. I've been on a bit of a sour/tart fragrance kick lately so that worked out well for me. Very fresh and probably great for a summer's day when the weather gets to interact with it.

However, I'm not a huge fan of the dry down. The tartness doesn't work as well here, and there's nothing to round it out . It gets a soapy, almost synthetic smell that I'm not a huge fan of.

The performance is also pretty weak for the price tag, even with two sprays on the same wrist it became more or less a skin scent within an hour.

It's a shame, because I really wanted to love this fragrance.

liebecherie

This smells like an orange peel or orange zest to me. I’m not sure what rhubarb is supposed to smell like, but that’s what I smell. It’s relaxing and tangy.

Ssoe96

A very clean, uplifting scent. Perfect for everyday wear especially in hot weather. Definitely unique, and quite pretty to me.

BeardedIris

Well this is a happy little perfume. What a boost for the spirits. Sharp and bright to open, like a real rhubarb patch, before heading in more of a boiled sweet / hard candy direction without becoming saccharine. Tart, fun and full of citrus-like, fruity zip. Drying to a pleasant rhubarb muskiness.

hyph

First time, I've smelled this cologne when I was on a holiday trip in Australia 3years ago, last day before leaving I got a chance to try again at Duty free shop at airport, I sprayed on my wrist, neck and tee to see a different smell, sillage and longevity. " What a lovely and refreshingly beautiful scent " It's very bright and tangy like you just finished having a shower in the morning with luxury shower gel. Personally, I'd never smelled/tasted a rhubarb before I've sniffed this cologne so I don't know what rhubarb smell like but this is so fresh, easy and cozy to wear, I could detect berries note but not too much, they well blended with the other notes.

When I arrived at my hometown airport, my mother picked me up and she said "you smell so beautiful, what perfume are you wearing" I'm glad, lol, so the longevity is pretty good. Finally I got it on my collection already.

jassca99

What a lovely scent! It’s really gorgeous it just doesn’t last past a few hours. A good non-citrus summer scent to switch it up. Honestly, one day I may jump the gun and just buy it because it’s just so good, juicy, green and refreshing.

LilyyC

My signature perfume!
A unique scent with a sour rhubarb twist, not the most complex scent but not your typical scent.
Just wish it lasted longer

Steph_S

I wore this fragrance today thinking it would be a "cozy" scent (it's 55 degrees outside). Although I love the way it smells, this definitely does not project in cooler weather. It does smell warm and cozy under my sweater, but there is absolutely no silliage or projection.

Two_Strikes

I really found nothing special about this. It smelled like the older sister of D&G L’imperatrice 3 , very similar!! A strong tart citrus scent

keithscents

Lovely lovely everyday scent. Rhubarb's chemistry with my skin is really good. This is very yummy but inoffensive at the same time. It will surely catch attention but not in an intimidating way. The dry down is really pleasant too. For a cologne, I understand that it does not last long as I want it to be.

Rating this 8/10

Mizi

It’s lovely. Something easy going for a day when you don’t want to be noticed but smell great nonetheless ;) The scent is a natural rhubarb actually, enhanced by pepper (?). Like others said it’s a linear smell. It doesn’t last unfortunately, a pity because it’s so yum. Maybe with added drop of vanilla I’d have a perfect gourmand for me! Shame it fades to almost nothing within 30min. Edit: I've been wearing it daily for a few days now. Have to say the fragrance lingers on my skin quite long, but faintly, I'd say half a day then re-apply. I can't smell red berries, although maybe cranberry...vaguely. Rhubarb with it's tartness is dominant on my skin. Lovely just lovely easy scent!

strikersdream

One of my favourite scents of all time. But...it literally does not last more than 20 minutes on me and I can't justify purchasing again for that reason!

ijustwannasmellgood

A light hearted, easy-going bright scent that is exactly what I needed for the scorching summer where I live. The down side is that longevity and sillage are pretty bad. About 3 hours of longevity and maybe 10 minutes of sillage?

What I can smell the most is the berries, surrounded by a tangy rhubarb accord. Even in dry down, I could smell the berries more than any musk, which is stated here as the base note.

Anyway, Not a bad scent at all. Definitely wouldn't empty my wallet for it but I'd love to have the whole collection because the bottles look spectacular!

The Wolf

Rhubarb and cranberry through and through.
GREAT smelling frag IF you like Rhubarb.

I like Rhubarb. This is very realistic interpretation.
It smells tangy and bitter with a little bit of a roots.
I have Azzaro night time which has a similar Rhubarb but it's more vegetal.

Unfortunately Azzaro only has the Rhubarb in the opening and Rhubarbe Ecarlete has it from beginning to end. Longevity is pretty bad and at full retail I wouldn't buy it unless you're a big fan of this note.

"Never rub another man's Rhubarb"- Jack Nicholson. 7/10

TyDay

Don’t hate this at all. This smells so realistic it’s strange. I feel like I’m digging outside in damp soil grabbing celery/ rhubarb (I’ve never smelled rhubarb before), with something sweet, like cranberry in a can at Thanksgiving. It also reminds me of real Christmas trees. Defiantly earthy, I didn’t get a chance to test it on my skin so this is me smelling it on the tester paper.

chrisk252

Love it! So fruity and natural. Sweet but not too sweet, just natural and refreshing fruit. Scent: 9 / 10

ezpz

This smells so so good...wonderfully tart and sour true rhubarb in the opening. It's delicious! Amazing! And lasts about 5 minutes until drying down to a pretty run of the mill tart berry fragrance that reminds me of shower gels from B&BW. This is completely gone from my skin in less than an hour. Perhaps to be expected from an eau de cologne strength, but honestly, I have body sprays that last longer, give a similar vibe, and are way cheaper. Not full bottle worthy, unless you are willing to top up every hour. It does smell phenomenal, but performance is too poor for me.

JessVanEgg

At first, it smells quite bitter, but the more it dries, the more it smells sweet (with a slight hint of bitterness).

The smell is strong but sits extremely close to the skin. There is no sillage and it last for about 4-5 hours, which to me makes it a bit overpriced and not worth it, but I cannot deny it still smells fantastic.

I'd give it a 7/10.

annacmanuel

Wow I love this smell! It’s a burst of crisp, fresh berries and rhubarb and quite boozy smelling to me… which I absolutely love. It’s red berries with fizz! One thing I don’t like is the spray bottle. It leaks a small amount after I spray.

lillybethholmes

The initial spray/dab of this is rhubarb perfection. Sweet, tart, a little sour. A memory of me as a kid dipping raw rhubarb stalks in sugar, fresh from my Grandad's garden. Sadly it last approx 2.6 seconds before drying down into a dull generic headachey musk. I *could* re-apply every 2.6 seconds but that may be a tad pricey! Of course I'm exaggerating the lack of longevity, it's probably more like 30 mins before the rhubarb has fully handed over to the generic musky man smell, but I dislike the dry down so much it's not worth the 100% wonderful opening. A real shame.

Hummingbird

I bought Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate for the first time 5 years ago and I still love it and think it's the best rhubarb fragrance on the market! This is one of the fragrances that I've bought a back up bottle since in some point I thought it would be discontinued.

Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate smells like you would shave rhubarb with a peeler, really refreshing! It is very long lasting despite it's an eau de cologne but the sillage is moderate. It is a beautiful scent for spring and summer.

ingeneuxo

-A refreshing out-of-shower scent.
-It is indeed as 'energising' as other reviewers have pointed out.
-Longevity is pretty bad; though that's to be expected when it comes to fragrances from the house of Hermes.
-Expect to top up every 1.5~ 2 hours with this scent. (-)

eaudenora

It smells so good!!! The notes listed are very accurate and it's 100% unisex

Finisterle

Hermes make some delicately aesthetic bottles. Finely colored and curvatured glass for the mature and tired eye.

But whether the fragrances match the bottles in quality is highly debatable.

Or... am I going slightly negative here because I have misunderstood what rhubarb is ? Because this is more like raw rhubarb - not that refreshing, a bit earthy, dense and sour. If you want refined rhubarb as in rhubarb lemonade which is lighter and sweeter there are probably better fragrances.

rullaxoxo

Wow I never thought I’d fall in love with a sour, tart fragrance. This scent is energizing, uplifting, and the definition of a crisp spring day. I agree that longevity and sillage might not be superb, but this is still a gem. You really do smell all three notes listed, but mainly the rhubarb and red berries.

Overall: 7/10

lindenberg

I loved this one when I had it, and would always combine it with Eau de Pamplemousse Rose.
It's refreshing, happy, and the good kind of sweet. Not at all sticky or sickly.

Sadly, it does not last, like most EDTs in the Les Colognes line.
So expect to reapply it every 2 hours or so.

Woodykipo

The instant I smelled this I fell in love. That crisp fresh rhubarb just kicks your energy level way up.I loved it every day I had it on me.It's an eau de cologne but has a good longevity.

NDStars

First blast of sweet tart rhubarb, tangy and refreshing, realistic. As if you had broken rhubarb stalks and inhaled. I got the faintest whiff of a pink floral right in the opening that immediately faded to let the rhubarb take centerstage. Very light and sweet, fruity and unique; I've not encountered rhubarb in any other fragrance to date. The fruit intensifies a bit during the dry down, taking on more red berries but the rhubarb is still very much there. Projection stays close to the skin. Feminine and perfect for spring and super hot summer weather.

6+ hours later: Doesn't last long at all but meh, it's a cologne.. they're not formulated for longevity. I think I got about 1 hour of strength and then maybe 2 more of a faint lingering sweetness.

queenoflipsticks

Most scents have to grow on me a little, and it is rare that I will instantly fall in love with a fragrance (and remain infatuated with it through the base notes and beyond the first wear). This one is one such diamond in the rough.
This fragrance enchanted me from the moment I sprayed it in the store. The rhubarb hit is immediate and satisfyingly tart, and gently fades to soft berries and musk over time. As others have said, it’s linear, but it’s also enchanting and quite elevated. It feels chic and classy like few fruit-centred fragrances do. I would wear this in casual and more formal occasions alike.
Longevity is quite good considering this is a cologne. About half a day before I can’t smell it on myself anymore (but it may last longer as a skin scent after I’ve become nose blind to it, maybe).
Recommended.

SarahTheBoss

Glorious, tart rhubarb. As others have said, it's linear but that works when a fragrance is this perfect from the initial spray. The berries and musk balance out the sour vegetal rhubarb and the longevity is great for a cologne (4-5 hours). It reminds me of picking my grandmother's rhubarb stalks and munching on them raw with my cousins as a child. The essence of spring and summer captured in a bottle.

fragrances-fanatic

As a lover of eating rhubarb...and a lover of the fragrance of slicing up rhubarb...I absolutely adore this and am so glad I discovered it. The fragrance is a shockingly true rhubarb scent! Very fruity and luscious while still retaining the signature tartness that defines this vegetable. Slightly tart but not overly astringent.

Yes, technically rhubarb is a vegetable, but it's associated with fruits because you have to put tons of sugar with rhubarb to make it taste good, so it's usually found in desserts and sometimes cocktails. Those of us who love tart-sweet foods love it.

Surprisingly good longevity for being a cologne. Lasts a good 4-6 hours on me.

THANK YOU Hermes for making this!! Now I'm in search of a back-up bottle.

scented_fuku

It's definitely a compote! I love it, despite of my little antipathy to fruit notes. But I'd like it to be more long-lasting :(

ingridrivero

A very simple fragrance, almost made for layering. On its own it’s too sour to fit my skin, but mixed with something sweet it is delicious. Natural and unique rhubarb. Smells like a dream summer girlfriend.

mikecch

What a unique smelling EdC!
A must have for fans of rhubarb, which dominates from the start to its relatively quick finish an hour or so later.
Pleasantly sour & green in the opening, until sweet fruits and a gentle musk are revealed after some minutes, rounding out the rhubarb nicely.
Simple but sophisticated, and very natural to the nose.
Projects at arms length for some minutes, but settles next to the skin within the hour.

To me, this makes a fantastic summer spray for women of all ages. An upmarket body spray.
Too feminine for my own use, but certainly a wonderful smell nevertheless.

mutatismutandis

Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate is a pretty linear scent. It's uncomplicated with a fairly minimal set of notes. On opening, it projects moderately for just over five hours. It lasts just over six hours in total. There's a rather fresh, tangy rhubarb with a sourness to it along with the berries (I would say they're a mix of cranberry, loganberry and redcurrant) that dominate the scent although the musk does come into play more as time goes by. I would say this is far more towards the feminine end of unisex. Glorious bottle. It's okay but it isn't for me. I think it works best in warmer weather and in the daytime. Hermes new offerings since Christine Nagel took over from Jean-Claude Ellena as the in house perfumer are simply not as good. They lack the Ellena magic.

hanbanana

I'm amazed that rose isn't listed as a note here because that is overwhelmingly what I get from this fragrance. Sure. the rhubarb note is lovely and the entire reason I bought this; it's sharp, fresh, and tangy just as rhubarb should be. But the rose is undeniable and, for me, unwelcome. I don't know how else to put this but it's very... perfume-y. I wouldn't say this was a young woman's scent at all, more something my grandmother might wear. Certainly not for men unless they're very secure in themselves.

ivanda

Very crispy, tasty, long lasting. Do not know anything similar to this One. Rhuburb is great in it, cranberry gives the good vibe, this reminds some sorbet, so delicious.

clebermaximo

Good cologne but definitely not for men. Very happy girly/womanly sweet smell which really combines with femininity.
On my skin I just got the berries smell and it was hugely, massively sweet (not joking, I was surpreised how sweet it got on me...) When my mother tried it, the green, sour delicious rhubarb was there. It seems to me that on male skin it somehow gets sweeter.
It does not exudes the Hermès luxury, it is a good but generic berry scent and I have smelled something like it before but do not remember which was.
It is quite expensive for a cologne - for a little bit more I could have bought another Hermès EdT.

cris_alejaaandro

I bought this perfume some days ago and I must admit that I am fully in love with this one. I consider myself to be someone who is kinda obssessed with perfumes and tbh this smells like nothing I´ve smelled before. It's citrusy, fruity, sour and sweet at the same time. Very unisex and for spring/summer most likely. I had read some reviews before saying that it lasted nothing, but in my skin it lasts at least 7 hours with a very good projection! I'm loving it. I think it depends on each one's skin PH.
go give it a shot, it's heaven!

Emma92

Such a happy happy happy smell. There is nothing really like this, I'm addicted to wearing it after a shower! The longevity is a few hours which is all I want from it. It is perfect for the summer but I use it year round as a mood booster.

The matching soap and body products are wonderful too.

Caldrumr

I have never tried anything quite like this before.
A very tart/sweet photorealistic rhubarb. Fruity, tangy and a little sugary, without being saccharine. Almost reminiscent of a rhubarb pie.
The scent is absolutely gorgeous, and it's also not quite like anything else I have tried before.
Another simply beautiful selection from the house of Hermes.

anngelica

This is my favorite cologne of the series. The sour fruitiness of rhubarb (even with a note of astringency) is mixed with the sweetness of red berries. The former dominates and leads. A musky bed underlies the composition.

A great choice for sommer days and nights ! Makes you feel luscious and wear red.

I cannnnot get enough of this cologne, it is a must!!! yet the price point is what is putting me off from buying this at the moment. Absolute perfect combination for anyone who wants fresh and a unique sweet perfume, which doesn't seem too sour or sweet.... it is no defnitely one of those generic bubble gum, synthetic ones. Like if it was cheaper for a 50ml then i would definitely buy it but just why does it have to be so expensive for a cologne. Also to note, it did last about 4 hours on my skin and as a cologne i think it is quite decent. This is a signature scent definitely--- and when you smell it on your skin you get a type of memory, something that you have smelled before but can't rememeber where and i love that about it... perhaps it just reminds me of summer times when i eat rhubarbs with sugar or the rhubarb pie--- amazing really.

pjspaceshit

As the notes suggest, this is a very simple composition. I get a sweet and sour smell - combination of sweet berries and sour rhubarb, which is rounded by a soft musk. You get what you see, a pleasant fruity musk. And if you overspray, then also great longevity.

I'm not in love, but I like it. Considering also the price I paid for my huge 200 ml bottle, I give 7/10.

Chulula

Hot summer day. too hot to wear makeup. you need something fresh on your skin - look no further! it is simplistic and some may question the quality of rhubarbiness, for me it is just perfect. light with sweet notes balanced out with rhubarb tartness. It is all i want to wear on a hot summer day.

WildDove

Rhubarb Ecarlate is a light-fruity, light-musky fragrance a la Hermes that's perfect for spring through early autumn. It's a sour fruity that actually makes my mouth water! I also get a lot of rose in the drydown that's not listed in the official notes.

BaJu

Wow. Wow. And once more - wow!!! Rhubarb is perfectly balanced with musk. Fresh, but at the same time soft. Opening a bit too sour, but later on it turns into much softer scent. My new discovery for summer. It exceeded my expectations so much!

Coquita

Nice and girly fragrance for hot weather. On my skin, it opens with an acidic smell that resembles grapefruits (I guess it's the rhubarb, I've never smelled an actual rhubarb TBO). This slowly fades and mingles with a sweet berry scent, settling in a zesty, fruity scent. As it is a skin scent, it can be easily worn as an office scent, though the performance is underwhelming: 4 h on me.

7/10

dsty

Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate is one of my favourite summer scents. I love the rhubarb note in general and this scent just does it to perfection: it's as crisp and tart as the real thing, and the berry note adds some softer juicier fruitiness without oversweetening the composition, while the musk gives it some extra warmth and depth. Absolutely delicious, and such a well-balanced, elegantly simple composition that there's really nothing juvenile about it despite it being all fruit. Of course it's a cologne, which means the shortlived opening is where most of the magic happens, but that's only to be expected.
I've had a big bottle in my collection since it came out, and I think it must be the fragrance that's most likely to ever get used up in my (too?) big collection: I can't get enough of it in the warmer months, and often wear it to bed even in winter - it's just such a mood lifter, such a burst of colorful happiness.

Borzoi

GREAT smelling energetic summer perfume, very sweet, but it is VERY feminine in my opinion. I can see this on a care-free woman all ages 20+, but it's just not for me. I gave my sample to my mom instead (who's 56) who really enjoyed it!

margrietmae

Up until now I realize all my perfumes have been rather serious.
This one instead comes in like a bright fruity burst.
Nothing immature here, just a lightness of being with a sour under note that keeps it grounded and keeps giving it it a kick till the dry down.
An absolutely different perfume to anything I have ever smelled before.

Lervin HR

Exotic, minimalist fragrance with a very natural construction of its ingredients. Unisex with a tendency towards feminine due to its fruit composition; faintly sweet scent. Due to its quality and originality we could consider a niche perfum.

I'm trying this for the first time tonight, and I'm fairly overwhelmed with some intense scent nostalgia. While I can imagine there might be some who would be offended by the very association, the opening notes of this are reminding me so, so, SO much of The Body Shop's Dewberry, which I wore as a teen in the mid/late '90s. I'm guessing it's the juicy, grapefruit + currant/red berries combo?

I haven't smelled Dewberry in probably a good 20 years, but oh! This is making me think of my first kiss and weekends at the mall and the old minivan I inherited when I got my driver's license. You guys... I did not expect to feel these feelings tonight! I realize this is probably not the most useful review for 99% of the population, but man, if you were a Dewberry kinda girl back in the day?

Trying to divorce myself from the very personal scent memory, this is a joyfully zesty, mouthwatering, fruity burst of dopamine. It's really lovely, on this first warm, sunny, hint-of-summer day, and I think it would be super enjoyable on a hot day. It does feel like something that could be heartbreakingly fleeting on the skin... but some things are not meant to last forever, and all we can do is enjoy them while we can, right?

ca.comMiss_Binky

Magnificently tart!
A masterpiece!

Nonzerosumness

I love this fragrance so much. I would shower in it. It's my kind of fresh scent. Airy, bubbly, sour & green. Too bad the performance is terrible.

Jmalone84

My first thought was a citrus rose fragrance such as Stella McCartney EDT. However the tartness also comes through in a way that reminds me of salted mango. This is fruity, light and mouth wateringly delicious. Very fun. Can’t imagine it on a rough buff manly man I’ll be honest. Not sure it would meet the mainstream definition of unisex but femme boys and gender diverse people I’m sure won’t care <3

I like this. Not necessarily ‘me’ but enjoyable and nice for a summer’s day.

UN MUST HAVE ! BELIEVE ME

duncan.green

Absolutely loved the smell. Light, citrusy opening with a warm roundness of the rhubarb. Brought me right back to cozy winter evenings having strawberry rhubarb pie with my family. The first 20 minutes or so are great, with a good balance between sweet and sour. Unfortunately, the performance is absolutely terrible, especially for something at this price point. It dries down to a barely there, indistinct powdery sweetness that entirely goes away after 2 hours. Even less than an hour after application it becomes a mild skin scent. I really wish the scent performed better but I just can't justify getting anything larger than a travel spray at the price. I've seen other reviews going other extreme one way or another on the performance so it may just come down to the wearer's biochemistry and dermal oils. Definitely not what I would consider a super masculine scent, but certainly pleasant to every nose. I'd say it's unisex for sure.

Scent: 9/10
Versatility: 8/10. May not be appropriate for something like clubbing, but overall very wearable in most occasions.
Projection: 4/10. I got maybe an arm's length right after application, decreasing to maybe 50cm after 10 minutes
Performance: 3/10. See above.
Overall: 6/10. The scent is fantastic but the performance just kills it.

spartan

For me this is in NO way A Unisex fragrance, Completely feminine...I wore it A few times and had to wash it off.....just could not walk around smelling like A Female.
With that being said it's A Great fragrance and Very well made ..On A Woman it's Fantastic.

Does Not meet the Spartan Standard for Male Wearability.

Masculinity 1/10
Wearability 8/10
Value 5/10
Projection 9/10
Fragrance Quality 10/10

A rhubarb fragrance before rhubarb was a trendy note, before Mugler‘s Aura came out. You could say Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate was ahead of its time. I love rhubarb, so of course I like this, too. It‘s a slightly sweetened rhubarb that is not mouth-puckering tart, but still fresh and not gourmand. No pudding or cake in this. Instead I get a very strong rose note - I‘m so surprised that there is no rose listed - and a shampoo-like quality. This is very refreshing and ideal for warm spring days and summer. Rather linear and not loud or very long-lasting, but I think it‘s not weak either compared to other fresh fruity florals. I‘d say the longevity is moderate and the scent connects with my skin in a nice way, unlike some lower quality fresh scents that smell nice on the first blast and then just fade out to something thin and nondescript, if you know what I mean.
I already have D&G L‘Imperatrice as a fresh fragrance with rhubarb and don‘t feel like I need another one, but this one still a very good summer choice if you‘re tired of the same old citruses and florals. It‘s listed as unisex, but to my nose it leans more traditionally feminine.

tried this one a few days ago

2 sprays on my arm from a tester bottle

the opening is a very fresh rhubarb, bright, citric, fruity, zingy, refreshing!

about 2 hours later it feels light & airy, fruity & floral

3-4 hours ... ozonic, grapefruit, a little bit of a musky cologne dry down, i'm on the fence between loving it & finding it a little generic

i was surprised it lasted as long as it did on my skin, keeping moderate projection for at least 6-7 hours

AnitaHendricks

Instant love! A friend recommend this perfume and he was right! The fresh, slightly sour rhubarb and red berry notes are wonderful. They're slightly sweet but still unisex. The white musk creates a very expensive smelling layer underneath it all. It's classy!

lndolsson

Lovely and very unusual scent
Unfortunately on me it's gone in 20 minutes. Very pricey for that kind of longevity.I used my 50 ml bottle in a couple of weeks since I had to respray so often.
The bottle which is bright red is stunning so I keep it in my collection

clintjr82

This is a striking spicy scent and strange. It’s unique. You will get noticed with this. Very potent. Quite nice, the berries and rhubarb is lively. It has parfum extract scent thing going . I bought a bottle

Bubbles1964

Bright berry and rhubab scent, a great warm weather option without a hint of citrus. Getting about 90 minutes before Rhubarbe Ecarlate turns to a skin scent. I tried this before in cold weather and thought I didn’t like it. Juicy offering from Hèrmes.

Astar

That’s rhubarb in its pure form! Very light, very airy, very young! Delicious for those long May evenings, but it doesn’t go beyond that. Would you expect it though?

CathSvila

What an utter dream of a scent. So tart in opening, so bright, so different. I thought that Eau de merveilles would be the most original scent I’d ever own, but I’ve been proven wrong. I think every Fragrantican should own this beauty, if just to experience once in the heat of summer.

lgbailey86

So this is an EDC. Of course. I get frustrated bc this performs exactly like a great EDC should. So why complain? It is labelled honestly and it is Amazing for hot weather.
If you can not afford to bathe in this and freshen back up - bc that's what's nice and refreshing and not cloying to do in hot weather - then no do not buy this scent, buy something cheaper.
For a tart tangy jammy sour bright juicy natural rhubarb this is just fantastic. One of my favorite scents. This and herba fresca by guerlain are both just amazing on the hottest days of the year. I would say that the performance on this hermes EDC is comparable to the Aqua allegoria line by guerlain which calls itself EDT.

Of course it will need to be reapplied! You throw on enough to make your brain happy and the people around you think you're super cool and pleasant to be around . And then you get all hot and sweaty and want to freshen back up. If a fragrance is too strong you cant do that without ruining your day. It's like splashing water on your face .
The rhubarb and berries blend to make a bright and deep red cold glass of juice. A glass that is too tart to actually drink. This does get lightly musky and sexy if your skin is hot after that Incredible rhubarb dies back.

So freaking good.

justchillinxo

The intial blast is truly amazing, refreshing realistic rhubarb. But just a minute later the scent turns into something very strange on me. It definitely smells different but not appealing and very strange. It was a pass for me unfortunately.

Dawnfiller

Gorgeous tart opening with Rhubarb note then fresh pomegranate that lasts about half hour projecting about 6 feet with scent trail. After 30 minutes it fades to skin scent with tasty rhubarb pie tartness fading to florals, pink maybe, with hint of lemon. It becomes totally pink florals with hint of white musk until it disappears off my skin completely within 2 hours. This will be a great layering perfume for my strong tea scents during hot weather.

Glad I blind bought this perfume it is a mood lifter! Wish the opening tartness lasted longer but it is a cold 59 degrees here so scent could change in spring when I test it more.

zhiang0113

I absolutely love this! Tart rhubarb tempered with the sweetness of abstract berry notes. Smells so delicious, it's almost edible! Wish it lasted longer though... It all but vanishes in an hour or so.

lamlamie2013

Fresh at first and lovely latter. A pleasure for tropical spring & summer.

Jerry Can

The only rhubarb scent I've encountered. It isn't an olfactory wonder. It is an olfactory curiosity. I just find it considerably beyond my imagination how this stands up against a multitude of more desirable alternatives - not least from the house of Hermès.

kjana

nice, optimistic, simple, a bit foodie fragrance. it is not something you smell of everyone but it is not too bold or weird. i keep coming back, getting samples (not so amazed to buy the whole bottle but i did buy other from hermes) and enjoying it.

damienthoresson

Like many of the reviewers below, when I first tried this I expected something more green and vegetal. This is bright, fruity (red currant?) and darned near edible. There's nothing really bad I can actually say about this except that I wish it lasted longer. As it is an eau de cologne I can't really fault it for being so short lived.

Fragrances like this feel like extravagance in one of the highest levels - paying around $180aud for something you spray with reckless abandon whenever you want to feel refreshed. Unlike most perfumes, this probably won't last longer than 2 months in the Summer (if you're lucky) and (if you're even luckier to afford yourself such luxuries) you buy another bottle, and another and so forth. It's that good.

churinl

This was included in a coffret set I purchased from Sephora recently. Out of the 4 scents included, I thought this would be my least favorite, or at least the one I wasn't likely to wear. I expected something more vegetal- I was unfamiliar with the smell of rhubarb in a fragrance. What a pleasant surprise! I find it very refreshing, and so lovely for a summer day. It smells clean and fresh. I do not experience any bitterness as some Fragrantistas have noted. Actually I enjoy splashing some on after a hot shower, before I settle down for the evening. Hermes does no wrong in my book!

bal026

I have to say this perfum is so FRESH and not anoying smell, I just love the way this aroma runs on my skin, makes my day more relax and the complements never stops, the performance on me is huge. GOOD option for both: men and women.
The price is high in my Country, over the $100 for 100ml but it worths because I have never smelled something similar. KUDOS HERMES.

monkey500

The rhubarb notes begin very bold and sharp but smells very artificial and cloyingly sweet with decent sillage that thankfully calms down after an hour into a soft and sweet warmth that lingers for most of the day. The opening really obstructs an otherwise 'okay' dry drown.

gtabasso

This is lovely. Any rhubarb lover, this is THE rhubarb fragrance. It sort of reminds me of pomegranate in a way. It is huge rhubarb in the top and a sour, almost vomit type of note to it but then the berries kick in immediately and it becomes very sweet. It has a powdery almost floral component to it. It quickly becomes very soft and fades rapidly like most Hermes on my skin. In the base it has a rose quality to it. The final drydown in the base is a very animalic musk.

H.GH325

Kikuyu

Like the grapefruit, but it doesn´t last on me. After 30 minutes it´s gone.

Narguile

This starts with a very sour and promising rhubarb note for me, but that quickly passes and it morphs into a grapefruit/tea scent for me. I was hoping for some sweetness from the fruit notes, but there is not much of it present on my skin. It's perfectly fresh and reminiscent to me of the Jardin series.

justfloral

In the beginning it is 100% rhubarb - very sour, astringent you can almost taste the sourness. Momentally it's bitter, almost "sweaty". After an hour it's getting softer, there is something reminding grapefruit/rose from Baby Doll to it, and also a tea note (tea + sweet fruity note - a very distant echo of Bvlgari Au The Rouge).

CatherineB9

At first I was reminded of YSL Baby Doll, but the dry down is so much better and soft. I get a lot of pink grapefruit. So pretty!

gall1

for me it was love from first sniff, just my perfect summer fragrance. Very fresh and crisp. Longevity: couple of hours.

Gumbinator

Smells very sour and bitter. Unfortunately not what I was hoping for when I sampled this one. Mind you it was on the test strip. I'm finding it very hard to like a fragrance from this house.

joseffgabriel

Liquid happiness in a red bottle :) Longevity is average.

trabuquera

Rhubarb fizz: sharply crisp, sparkling, juicy-fresh pinkness at first, with enough acid and green in the mix to keep the sweetness under control. Really invigorating, and while certainly pretty too, it's still brisk and energetic enough to be true unisex as well IMO. Sadly it's only at EDC strength, so ebbs to pretty much nothing in 3-4h - like a delicious iced lolly, which is exactly what you need in high heat but melts away so quickly to just vapour and a fleeting memory. Really no lasting power at all.

Yet overall this one is so vivid and invigorating I'd be happy to respray it and keep topping up that delicious dash of fruit from the start. Absolutely a summer scent I think - it's all tart, citric refreshment, a brilliantly acerbic fruit sorbet, not a warm rhubarb crumble pudding. A mood lifter, for sure.

boznfabs

First of all, lets just say I am no expert at analyzing fragrances. All that I can say is that it is very light, it smells very fruity-floral. The scent doesn't linger on the skin very long. I guess that's what you call poor longevity. When I move, you get a faint whiff, but that's about it.

It is sold as a unisex fragrance but honestly, I don't think it smells very masculine, or whatever I think in my head should smell masculine. May be I'm the one who got it wrong.

It is pretty, but I was expecting more of an Hermès fragrance. Reminds me a lot of Eau des Jardins from Clarins. It's clean, it is a daytime scent that would not offend in an office environment. I guess that's what you call a soft sillage.

jovejove

There’s going to be a new Hermès fragrance being launched from the cologne series that’s more masculine, representing the Persian Black Lemon; silicilian lemon, black Ceylon tea and guaiac wood. Smells AMAZING and I have it on. This post is for those people that say, “how can you vote when it’s not out yet”.

bberns22

Opening is somewhat sour but drys down to a flowery scent. A little feminine for me so I share it with my wife...

Have tried layering it with Clinique Happy For Men and the combination is stupendous!!

Dafffid

I swore I'd only write balanced and detailed reviews... But this is disgusting. Horribly synthetic, and without any virtue I can ascertain. And I love rhubarb. It just smells like a gimmick. Sorry, I hate writing negative reviews and would much sooner praise scents, but whatever you do, don't blind buy.

LisaMari

Opens really fresh and rhubarby then slowly warms up to this beautiful lingering sweetness that just envelopes you. It’s such a comforting scent

Tommix

Not bad. Fresh, sweet, not teenage sweet. Sour, i get citrus vibe. I bet it was used to mimic rhubarbe.
Dry down not that great, reminds me of a LIPSTICK. I guess this is the "women" part of the parfume.
Longevity as all fresh - ~2-3 hours. You can still smell it after 12h on skin or clothes from 5cm distance.

Poeple who say "It smells quite synthetic" OF COURSE!!! because rhubarbe have no smell it's f@cking grass. :) And i disagree it doesn't smell synthetic, only dry down.

For 60$ 100ml not bad. Recommending.

Jcm6

I don't know what it is about this one.But it's STUNNING! My collection is large including favorites from Hermes, Byredo, Creed, Jo Malone, House Of Matriarch the list goes on and on. But this is one of my favorite perfumes I own. It's so simple but intriguing, this is no way smells "cheap". It makes me happy every time I smell it.

scentdoctor

Opening is wonderful smells very uplifting and summery, however it lacks longevity and projection and it becomes a skin scent within a half hour or so.

justcallmed

To me this is straight up green notes and super sweet red berries. I love that this is fresh and crisp without smelling like generic grass clippings.

The start begins as sweet and clean sugary fruits, then quickly dissipates to a green blend of slightly vegetable-ish that stays linear but enjoyable. I don't notice the musk note myself but it's still a very enjoyable fragrance that would do best in warmer weather and sticks around for a few hours on the skin (have yet to try it on clothes).

peppermoon

Crisp rhubarb, with a very tangy, green apple-esque opening. Linear. I wish more perfumes used this note! I love the smell but it's far too simple for me to want to buy a decant or bottle. I'll enjoy spritzing my sample in summer though!

lukemosse

This is too one dimensional for me to really like. It's pleasant, but it comes across as a prominent, pokey rhubarb top note, on an unremarkable generic base.

It smells quite synthetic. The rhubarb note is sweet, like a rhubarb crumble. With a rhubarb crumble it's common to offset it against some spiciness and perhaps some caramelised flavour. This is all top, and there is nothing prominent or remarkable in the base.

I was hoping that this would use the rhubarb note as a centrepiece for creating a unique composition - in the way that, for example, Azzaro Acteur uses rose as the centre of a dark and sultry, tragic statement of its own. But here the statement is 'smells like rhubarb', or at a push 'smells like rhubarb soap'.

I am a big fan of other compositions by Christine Nagel so a bit disappointed in this one, whose main statement is the sheer fact that it includes rhubarb. It stands out, but the rhubarb is quite shortlived, so it's only really a big thing for the wearer. No doubt that's intentional. I don't know, just feels a bit faddy to me.

celeste2795

I LOVE THIS SCENT!!
I encountered this fragrance by this clerk at Saks Fifth Avenue last year. I kinda tried to ignore the clerk but she gave me this scent on paper. So i did not care until that night, but when i got out from the shower, the scent was amazing! even though i am not into citrusy and fruity scents, this fragrance has changed my mind completely! I would definitely buy the whole bottle soon since I cannot find any similar scent!

I could kinda make a similar connection with Jo Malone's fragrance's freshness with this scent too but this is a great scent. but i am not too sure if i want to wear this as a daily perfume, but i would love to smell this in a room or in the morning.

ZELJO

I wouldnt use this one never, but have to admit it smells different to most others scents I have smelled, anyway,to me this is more alittle drops to put in your intimacy on your fingers or hand tan a parfum to wear in the streets

jmc66

STUNNING. I had to own this when I smelled it. It's so unique but familiar at the same time it's hard to describe. It has a beautiful fruity yet earthy feel. A must own.

Ohhellozippy

Love at first sniff. I am in a cloud of spicy fruity goodness for many many hours. The bottle and its colour are superb.

MsMixtape

Tangy and fresh, familiar but also unexpected, and perfectly unisex. It took me a little while to warm up to this one, but once I did I really enjoyed it, and used up the rest of my sample right quickly.

aconeyisland

Since I'm nearly at the end of my red rhub, I put down these few words just to share the love. After having used it the whole summer, I'm wearing it again today and once more I'm delighted by its brilliant sour sweetness or sweet sourness, so enchanting and airy. It has really won my heart. Great cologne with a glamorous vibe.

Mirella86

Lovely warm to hot weather scent. Very refreshing, a little bit sweet and very delicious. I would buy this if it weren't for the lasting power - 1 hour. Too expensive to fade away so quickly.

joseffgabriel

I get Christine Nagel soapy scent that she put on Eau des Merveilles Bleue here. Sharp fruity notes then dries down to a white musk. Reminds me of something like a fruity fresh shampoo. 2nd to the most long lasting Hermes eau cologne. Mandarine Ambre as the first.

SavageScent

My perfect summer fragrance. Sweet without bring cloying thanks to the sharpness of rhubarb and berries.
Light enough for daytime, interesting enough for evening. Frequently asked what I'm wearing by people loving the scent but not being able to identify it! Just a pity it doesn't last a little longer.

Siv7Stars

Fresh and sour initially and develops a bit sweeter as it dries down. Very nice, something familiar about it. I have no idea what rhubarb actually smells like, I found this sharply orangey moving on to floral sweetish cologne.

Miss Le

Moderate sillage, and a crowd pleaser. Reminds me of Starbuck's sweetened passion tea. To be honest, it's not very interesting. It's a great summer fragrance though!

jana.hullinghorst

This is good stuff. it's juicy/fruity without the cloying or overly sharp. A great scent for those looking for summer fragrance that's unexpected and different from everything else in your collection. Super refreshing and makes you smile. A chilled rhubarb tartlet with berries. It is light and short lived, as most colognes, and probably one to be used up rather quickly. I can't see these notes holding shape in a bottle longer than a year or two.

mutintabailey

Beautiful, I brought another Hermes perfume but I wish I had brought this one.
So unique and rehubarb comes through straight away with a hint of white musk, but so fresh and appealing.
Its fresh and alluring and very much a night and daytime perfume.
Just beautiful crisp and alluring you can smell it lightly throughout the day!
Excellent 10/10

picknenders

Wow. Reviews seem all over the place on this one! Well, I'll add to the madness I suppose. I'm not really familiar with the smell of rhubarb - so this is all new to me. The way I would describe it is: fresh cut roses sitting in a vase filled with citrus water. There's something very reminiscent about the undertones of this fragrance. While the note listing is brief, I find the smell to be fairly complex with nice depth. I see this as a fairly even unisex fragrance and personally, feel that it can be worn in warmer or cooler months. Overall I'm very pleased with the scent itself. I feel this is something I'll really enjoy more after each use.

milk_in

Rhubarb from start to finish! (as you might expect because of name ;D)
Lovely, quit a natural rhubarb, which includes some nice sourness and tartness. Overall fresh, refreshing, green, a little bit sweet and citrusy fragrance.
Wake up memories, because my grandmother's yard has always grown rhubarb and she make a lovely kisel from it every summer :)
Easy to wear, safe choice because it isn't offensive at any way. Longevity is moderate, about -+5 hours. I would buy if it would only be cheaper...(I could still consider if the longevity would be super good, but unfortunately it isn't)

The House among the Roses by Claude Monet
+++++++++++++++++

tommy_girl

Rhubarb is my new favorite note and Eau de Rhubarbe is all about pure rhubarb. I understand that some hermes fans would not find this one incredible,as it's too fruity, but I'm not one of those.I think it's comparable with l'eau d'orange vert without that masculine touch. Among all unisex perfumes of the house, I think this is least masculine one.
As a fruity admirer, I can ensure that Eau de rhubarbe is one of the best fruity perfumes I've ever smelt. I think rhubarb smells like fruity ice-tea. Mouth watering and fresh without being too sweet. While it's fresh it also smells (and looks) very RED, which is another reason for me to like it.
I disagree the comment that eau de rhuabarb has minimize the exceptions of such a house like hermes, by its uncomplicated fruity notes. Admirers of more mysterious perfumes can easily go with the parallel fragrance of the house Galop.
Having all of these said and being a fan of this red bottle, I should add that I think the price is too much for a cologne. I wish at least it was EDT or available in smaller bottles than 100ml. Ok, I know it's a follow up of previous jardin series, but it could have been more long lasting.

GinWeed

I absolutely love the simplicity of this fragrance! That's what makes it so beautiful. It's sour, fruity, slightly salty, and fresh. Hermes has blended this so skilfully that the rhubarb is not bitter. I've found that I can wear this during any given season, it's so versatile. You can't go wrong with this if you like citrusy fragrances! Highly recommended!

bfactor

Different and amazing!!!

Cassie Rae

This smelled amazing on the tester, the rhubarb is bright and interesting. On my skin after about 30 it turned to cheap generic berries. I wish everyone better luck because the fragrance smelled amazing. Highly recommend test before you buy.

pauroj

wow ok today i feel pretty lucky and got to smell some pretty awesome fumes this one included it is awesome !

fresh , juicy, different!

love !

Taliera

I did not like this. Smells like rhubarb alright, but it is too sour. Made me feel sick. Well, at least it didn't last long.

craftymaya

Sour at first (rhubarbe) then develops more sweetness but remains sweet and sour. Very close to D & G L'imperatrice 3. Nice, fruity, fresh, more feminine than masculine. Ver nice!
