Not A Perfume by Juliette Has A Gun is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Not A Perfume was launched in 2010.

The new non-perfume is arriving from the house of Juliette Has a Gun in September 2010. Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume in not really a perfume but fragrant AMBROX in a flacon.

C16 H28 O is formula of Ambroxan, the only key ingredient in this non-perfume. Ambrox was born in the 1950es in Firmenich as substitute for grey amber which was very expensive for a common use in compositions. Ambrox is typically used as one of base notes of compositions, while it has a leading role in this non-perfume.

Juliette Has A Gun Not a Perfume is a provocative declaration which does not follow the rules of modern perfumery. Not a Perfume is based on contradictions, since its composition is created of molecules and is the only fragrance without allergens.

Not a Perfume is available in characteristic flacons of 50 and 100ml.

You need to test this one on your skin (not on a test strip) and give it time to develop before even thinking about buying it. I sprayed some on my wrist at Sephora and could smell absolutely nothing. About 10 minutes later I tried smelling my wrist again and was finally starting to pick up on something. It was mostly musk and woods and I was getting a tiny bit of ashtray from it. An hour later the ashtray odor, fortunately, had faded. I had my mom smell my wrist and she said it smells like soap, like I just showered. After another hour, my mom said it was filling the room and she loved it so much she told me to see if they have a room spray (they do have one lol). I can't imagine myself needing to buy the Superdose edition, the original seems to have pretty strong sillage and good longevity on my skin. Makes it worth the price unlike other skin scents, to be honest.

1000Lipsticks

When first sprayed, for me it was nothing but plastic. Takes about an hour to turn to powder with what seems to ambergris. That slightly sharp note that can be like a metallic citrus.
Later still, it's not quite BO, but definitely skin.
If I were an alien I'd bring it back to my planet to demonstrate what humans in urban areas smell like.

jiaamin

Sometimes I can feel a bit queasy if the scent is too strong, so this is the perfect light fragrance. Cosy musky scent with a powdery sweetness. I'm a bit undecided about if I like this or not though, it is a little strange. Definitely need to try it on skin, I tried it on paper first and it was completely different!

Yakartoshka

Smells like ammonia and very pungent windex. Even after setting for a bit, still pungent and sharp smelling

enittine

Perfume can sometimes overwhelm me and I'd stop wearing perfume for awhile. This doesn't overwhelm and it's quite nice on my skin since it depends on skin chemistry. It smells clean and slightly sweet on me (not overpoweringly or sickeningly sweet). It smells aquatic and musky on my husband. Love that it's a playground/testbed for perfume layering and it layers nicely with Zoologist Cow and will be trying more layering options

Lothere55

Perfect skin scent for me. With the way it mixes with my body chemistry, it's kind of warm and creamy with just a hint of spice. It feels so comforting, like cuddling with your favorite person. No one will smell this on you as you walk by and think "huh, that person's wearing perfume." I think someone would have to get VERY close to smell it; they'd have to give you a big hug, and they would probably think, "wow, this is a deluxe hug... I'm going to hold on a little longer." I was pretty generous with my application, and there's still very little projection.

I love this. I am extremely self-conscious of irritating others with my fragrance (growing up, I was not allowed to wear perfume or even scented body lotions because my parents are both very sensitive to smells) and I can't imagine anyone being offended by this scent. I'd wear this to the office, doctor's appointments, gym, even to visit my parents. This will definitely be a repeat purchase!

eva.daisy.88

Doesn’t stay very long on my skin - maybe 2 hours tops.
And it’s just mainly musky scent. It’s very faint, even when I try to overspray it, it stays very close to the skin, so much that I can only smell it with my skin directly touching my skin.
It’s not unpleasant but it’s also underwhelming.

nathanm0

why does this smell like cloud to me with added amber😭😭

Indignatious83

Agree with reviews below likening this to a burning or chemical smell. To me, it is similar to hair when it's been in a curling iron too long. I see a lot of people attributing this to body chemistry, but I perceive the same unpleasant scent on clothes, in the air, and on other peoples' skin- so I feel like this is more of a "nose" problem.

Jadelynn

So I put off trying this for awhile, since I knew how polarizing this is as a fragrance. I didn’t know if I’d be one of those people who can’t smell it at all, or worse yet, someone it smells absolutely rank on.

Turns out I’m one of the lucky ones this smells really good on. It smells like sweet, clean skin, specifically a toddler’s skin. I know how weird that sounds, but if you’ve ever hugged a small child right after they’ve dried off from a bath, that is exactly how this smells on me.

This sits right on my skin, which goes well with how intimate a scent it is on me. I could see keeping this on the nightstand so I could throw some on for a lazy Sunday morning of snuggling, and then layering over it with something else once I’m up and going, as I’ve noticed it does work well to enhance my other fragrances.

Lolafraglover

It is a pity that it doesn't last longer because the scent is so good! First impact was harsh alcohol, and i was surprised by that, but quickly turned into this soft powdery, enveloping me, and i think other people could smell it too...man, really gracious. But it turns into a skin scent and vanishes after like 2 hrs(?). Needs to be reapplied... I think skin chemistry really plays a deal in this, at least i was fortunate to have a good experience, the way it behaved on my skin..

blondie2004

I never owned the full bottle, but I had a 10ml sample size. I had heard about the perfume from social media and was very curious... and then so disappointed lol. the scent only smells like musk. like absolutely nothing else. kinda clean, but not as clean as people said. and then it disappeared like an hour after spritzing it on my skin. so a big NO from me!!

fluffyfairy

My nose said smash upon first sniff

Dardana45

I was so disappointed with this! Its smells like burnt skin, actually, it smells exactly the same as after self tanning lotion!

Ismelllikeuniconrs21

I tried it on a perfume testing strip and I hated it. After a whole year I sprayed it on my skin and fell in love with it. Definitely unisex, smells like a rich guy who just had a bath. Great for work settings.

tylooshi

Ambroxan fanboy (M02) and figured JHAG would be equally great, but was disappointed to not have that same potency, and also have a stinky clay/mineral smell. I can see why others might like it, but it really just isn't for me.

honeyandbranch

I want to love this. I should love this. It’s a musky clean skin scent, right? Right?! Wrong. I’m mad that I hate this on me. It is so perfect in theory. The reviews vary wildly on what people smell; on me, it is a very sharp linear Amber that sits close to the skin and has fantastic longevity, but burns my nose when I smell it. I’m so disappointed it doesn’t work on my skin chemistry!

ginandrice

An airy chalk outline of a scent. I get purely a dry, papery, talc-like sweetness. There's just a trace of airy minerality, similar to the scent a lot of iris fragrances have, but here it's fainter and more neutral; neither rooty nor floral.

This is not for me. Even if it actually projected on me and wasn't a skin-scent from moment one, I still wouldn't be into the whole sweet, dusty, paper-pulp thing it has going on.

oldlowo

Reminds me of a haunted house (maybe a fog machine, or dry ice?), or an old medical building that has an atrium with a ton of plants and sunlight, bandaids, and vague remnants of industrial cleaners that were used overnight still hanging in the air - maybe a quiet corridor in a hospital after hours. Calm and fresh after the storm, somehow.

With some more wear time it's softened to a very subtle clean laundry scent and I love it.

ChemicalCracker

I absolutely love this fragrance. It is currently my signature scent. I cannot get enough of the subtle sweet muskiness it creates on the skin. I spray a F ton of this on as it is a very mild skin scent but does last a decent time as I catch whiffs of it throughout the day. Great for layering or perfect on its own.

AlliCat1215

I like it. I think it's best used to enhance other perfumes. I only wore it on its own if I was going somewhere like a doctor's office or the gym where I didn't want others to smell me.

hldmyhnd7

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this perfume... I originally got a tester version of this because I saw raving reviews online but I wasn't sure how it smelled/if it would smell good on me. When I first tested it, all I smelled was just alcohol, like the kind that you would smell in a cheap perfume. But despite not smelling anything notable on myself, when I asked other people if they could smell a perfume they said they did. Also another confirmation that it smelled good was receiving compliments on it, which was funny because I genuinely would forget I was wearing it because I couldn't smell any notes on the perfume. I realized that it probably worked well with my skin and that's why other people could smell it, or I just have a terrible sense of smell. Also after looking at the notes for the perfume, I figured that the minimal amount of notes may have been a factor in why I couldn't smell it. I think I need to the learn the art of layering perfumes because a lot of people have mentioned that this scent is good for that. overall, I never ended up buying the full version of this because I didn't have faith in the process, maybe if I'm looking for a nostalgic scent I'll come back to this one in a couple of years.

WatermelonPlum603

Very close to the skin scent, reminds me of D&G light blue. I get a lot of citrus. When I walk around the wafts remind me of laudry detergent. It's good, just not groundbreaking.

cintara4999

This is TRUE LOVE😍
For my nose Not A Perfume smells like pine needles with a slight hint of cleaning products or laundry detergent. Oddly soft and pleasing scent though it can be a little intoxicating right after applying. It sits close to the skin from the start. I didn’t really notice sillage and projection is weak, but it lasts almost all day. Other people can smell it only if they’re in my “bubble” which makes it really intimate and personal.
Not A Perfume is gentleness, cleanness, all the things simple and minimalistic. Perfect for both hot summer days and cozy weekends at home. I love to wear it when I want something effortless and light. Overall I would say it fits any season and situation.
Probably a safe blind buy, especially for people who enjoy simple musky/clean scents.

delicateneonkisses

personally, it’s fine… i don’t feel like it has much projection and when it dries down on me it just smells like soap. probably good for layering

Arcticmanatee

I sampled this yesterday for the first time. This is a really interesting fragrance. It’s just pure synthetic musk. It’s a very familiar scent. You’ve definitely smelled it before. I’ve smelled it most prominently in MFK BR 540, Creed Queen of Silk, and Prada Luna Rossa Ocean (of the fragrances I currently have on hand. I’m sure there are others). You could wear this alone or layer it easily with other fragrances. I will order a decant and try wearing for a bit to see what I think. I’m not sure I’d want to pay over $100 for 50 ml of something that is not a perfume. Dossier makes a dupe and I may try that too. Edit: I got the Dossier dupe for which there is no page on Fragrantica. It smells very similar but has no lasting power.

Laura2979

I have layered this with so many of my perfumes ! And worn it alone it reminds me of a gentler light blue by D & G . It layers beautifully with pear inc, and other florals and musks. It brings out their notes even more !

petrolblue

Directly after spraying there is a strong, artificial chemical odour like a disinfectant spray, it quickly dries down into a soft, smooth and natural scent that is almost floral but not quite. It's like trying to recall ow a flower looked in a dream, you can recognize but it is strange. I just love this perfume, strange in all the right ways!

cdcs

Boring. That’s it. Overpriced for what it is, underwhelming for what it’s supposed to do. Ambar by Granado smells much better for much less. Smells like you took a shower with unscented soap and put on unissex leaning masculine deodorant. Just no, not paying for that, much less the price asked.

einkill

another 13, sans the warmth and complexity. if you gave another 13 the dimensionality of an A4 sheet of paper, this would be it. after a while, it's reminiscent of hospital grade disinfectant that burns up your nostrils and scratches the back of your throat. linear, sharp, unchanging and sterile.

embuggle

I really, really wanted to like this. I read a lot of reviews, positive and negative, and I knew it was all going to come down to skin chemistry. Unfortunately, this reeks of baby powder on my skin, so much so that it gave me a headache for the first hour. The dry down is much less offensive, but it is only really giving me a clean linen thing, with maybe the smallest hint of something a little amber-y? I don't hate it, but I don't love it. Overall, this was a bit of a let down, but an interesting experiment nonetheless! I'll give it another few days. Maybe it will grow on me.

Fragaddict4u

A billowy comforting cloud of soft musk that lasts for ages. The epitome of the clean girl aesthetic.

sidesalad

When done right this smells like the sweetest, juiciest lady parts. Believe me I know.

vsmr

Meh... smells like a synthetic version of D&G Light Blue's base notes, minus the citrus.

Juleigh

No. Sprayed a tester at sephora and walked around mall. I couldn't even smell it unless I put my nose to my wrist. What is up with these over priced perfumes? If I can't get projection and longevity it's a hard pass. No. Not gonna buy this. Wayyy over priced. Bath and body works scents have more projection. No! The 80s colognes were fierce. They lasted. Man I miss the good Ole days!

emmaliina

This is weird. Like weird weird. When I first sprayed it I could smell it and it reminded me of D&G Light Blue, then I sprayed it on my skin and.... it vanished. Then I went on doing my stuff and it's there again. I smell my wrist and... almost nothing again. Then suddenly it's there again.
The scent varies from very clean to almost like vanilla, I don't get the wood part at all.
It's not bad at all and I have to try layering it with other perfumes. I blind bought this and will use it at least occasionally when I don't want pronounce my presence. Many fragrances I initially like turn to something that annoys me and this does not do that.

Samplin

I get subtly sweet lychee and an undertone I'd consider vaginal (I'm a woman). This could be just how someone smells and that's why I love the name "not a perfume," bc it's hard to tell if it's someone's natural scent or perfume. It's compelling and intriguing, but I don't love it.

herzling

Molecular perfumes are not suitable for everyone, to each its own. Personally, I confess that this is one of my favorite perfume, full stop.❤️ I would add: “Love it or leave it “.

Bella1644

Smells like hand sanitizer , this strong alcohol smell.

jenaissequois

Smells like if you just ate boiled crab and didn’t wash your hands after. Something about the chemistry does not agree with my skin

Lulu19

I'm so confused. It's been an hour and nothing. Not even a faint smell of anything. Glad I didn't blind buy it, would be furious!

astronaut

Amazing--with a huge asterisk. In addition to reacting with your own skin chemistry, Not A Perfume uses ambroxan, which plenty of people (including, possibly, you!) are anosmic to. Hence the reviews about this smelling like rubbing alcohol, mildew, or worse, nothing at all. That being said: for me, this smells clean and fresh, with a really pleasant amber note. Decent longevity, though unfortunately little sillage or projection.

kiaoi

Not sure how to categorize this perfume, on my skin it’s like spraying witch hazel. No sillage, no projection, no woody or amber scent, no nothing, really. I have a big sample of it, a big spray of nothingness. It’s supposed to enhance your skin natural smell…I smell of nothing.

Follow-up: I got a new tester today and I do feel a faint scent that reminds me of Santal 33, a perfume I don’t personally like. I am curious to try this for a day at the office, though.

Fragrantnatic

This is the most NON EXISTING scent that I came accros! I have a trial vial of this and have been spraying the contents of the vial for 2 days. Initial spray gives me fruity sweet musky vibe that lasts 10 minutes on me and its gone. Yup, its not a perfume alright. its nothing. I've not had a trial vial like this, its kinda sad. 😕 sorry!

nikirs

I really liked this at first, it really adapts depending on your skin and deepens other fragrances when applied as a base layer. For me, the longevity of this non-perfume is impressive--12 hours after applying, even after a shower, I can still smell this on my wrist under other fragrances. Unfortunately, though this fragrance certainly lasts, I found it turned extremely cloying on my skin after only a few hours of wear, and I now understand why some feel that this smells of mildew or chemicals.

kellyitzme

Sometimes I can smell this on myself and other times I can’t. When I can, I loooove it. When I can’t, I am disappointed (this stuff isn’t cheap!). Very odd.

Edit 2/28: Okay after wearing it a few more times I absolutely fell in love and bought a bottle. Even though I can’t always smell it, it is SO GOOD when I can. I’ve been wearing it every day and have gotten compliments at work! I think it may be my new signature scent.

A Pioneer w/o a Frontier

I can smell it, but I have no idea how this could smell pleasant to someone. It's not overpowering, but the smell is very artificial, chemical-like and cheap. Like a supermarket detergent, indeed not like a perfume. It's hard to see how it might get better with layering.

I blind bought a discovery set from JHAG, thinking there would be at least a couple of scents I could use, as I'm usually not that hard to please, and the descriptions sounded promising enough. To my suprise I had a similar problem with all eight of them, they smell really cheap and artificial, and not at all pleasant to me. Not just "meh", but actually something I rather not smell anywhere. Noses are different, sure, but I'm not surprised this house has no scents that would have an above 4 rating here (At least I couldn't find one), I'm puzzled how the ratings are as high as they are tbh.

foolycooly

Unfortunately, I can hardly smell this. On the rare occasion that I catch a whiff of it, it smells leathery/ mildewy. I have a hard time smelling skin scents like another 13, but this is practically non-existent to me.

EDIT: Not sure how but I can finally smell this now! got a bigger travel size of this and got many compliments on it. It kind of smells like commodity paper on me (my go-to), but smells sweeter on my friend which is interesting. Great everyday perfume, but I wish it was more long-lasting, I can only smell this on myself for about and hour.
This layers nicely with other perfumes, I like layering it with Jo Malone wood sage + sea salt.

AnniePruana

subtle, no pleasant notes, just barely there and not long lasting.

Shaina87

I’m surprised I haven’t reviewed this one yet. I love it and it’s one of my most worn scents. I mostly wear it alone but I love layering it with vanillas too. It’s simple… just a warm and quiet skin scent. Musky, amber-y and woodsy with the slightest hint of sweetness. It’s delicate, inoffensive and it wears so beautifully on my skin. I will always have a bottle in my collection.

oea10

This is disgusting. It burns my nose and smells so strongly of bo and something else that is unpleasant. It’s not even just the smell on my skin, it’s also when I spray it on clothes and everything else.

MareaCamacho

This truly transforms every perfume I thought I didn't like into one's that I enjoy wearing.

I love this. The atomizer is amazing as well.

M1kqh

16 yr old- Started off with a sample of this and superdose, I liked superdose but it is way different than the OG. Mistakenly bought a 100 ml of superdose, so i decided to start with a 7.5 ml travel of the OG. When it was almost used up I just went ahead and bought a FB. No Regrets. First it starts off with a woody but sparkly (like citrus) and then as it is drying its like a magical wood? Sometimes it will smell woody or sweet like vanilla on me. The warmer you are, the more it'll project, but ive only tried it in cold weather.

Zephyrppl

On those days where you’re chilling at home and need a pick-me-up; this is pure serenity. I adore this, it’s simple and soft and reminds me of fresh lemonade for some reason. Great, but it is quite expensive for chill at home scent.

mellie999

I am mystified at these reviews. I have had maybe three perfumes in my life where I actively tried scrubbing it off because it smelled so foul and this is one of them. If you took slightly melted plastic and blended it with some faint BO and added a few bits of a fish patty and mixed it all up in a chemically-scented canister, it would smell similar to this. I know my skin accepts scents a bit differently than most folks but this was one of the worst things I've ever willingly put on my skin.

Ari_loves_perfume

Ew, this is actually grosssssss. It’s a skin sent, however it’s quite mildewy. Smells like something is moulding away or something. Maybe I got a bad batch?…

MushroomMissy

I love this perfume. I find it very comforting Just got a second bottle. I Found it on fragranceshop.com using a promo code xr35. Brought the price down to $60 with shipping. So far I’ve had good luck with that website. Happy perfuming!

Leesh

When I sprayed this, it immediately reminded me of Diptyque L'eau Papier. Reviewers below say it smells like wood, smells like wool, smells like paper, smells like a baby's bum, smells like cozy linen dryer sheets, smells like a manly natural musk, and yup, I agree with all of them. I can picture all of those things when I smell this. To me, it smells like a white tee- specifically, your boyfriend's white tee, the one you steal (or that hoody) because you just want to be enveloped in comfort, but it's completely an androgynous scent.

FruitPunch

Pharmacy happiness scent,really unique.

hanner2012

I feel like this perfume is delicious in the same way D&G Light Blue is.

To me it smells clean and almost citrusy.

fragheadinme

To my nose it smells like sweet, clean skin with the hint of Nivea soft body lotion. Very addictive, sexy and clean. Must be forever in my collection.

larabk

Smells like wood.

iocean

LOL, I can't believe I spent money on a 'perfume' called Not a Perfume that is literally water in a bottle. I smell absolutely nothing with this on. I put it on a paper towel strip first and kept applying more, yet could barely smell anything. Finally I decided it maybe needed body chemistry, so I put it on my hand, where I could easily wash it off if I found it offensive. Jokes on me, because I've got no reason to wash off this non-fragrance. I don't know what is going on with the bodies of people who smell something when they put this on. I can't fault the makers for false advertising though. It is literally not a perfume.

morsidar

Bought a sample to try it because I saw people mentioning it as a skin fragrance. I was expecting low efficacy and it wasn't a big problem for me, but it still smells too sweet and synthetic for me, which really put me off >:(

jenzel4381

I spritzed about 10 sprays on my wrist at Sephora and couldn't smell anything.

skubi

musky skin scents like this need to work with your own body chemistry to smell really good, and this one never did for me. it always felt artificial, like it sat on top of my skin and tried too hard. it's nice: it hits the clean, fresh, just out of the shower notes, and i would get compliments if people were close enough, but for the price i think there are a few other musk/skin/clean fragrances that work better for me (Nemat's Amber Oil, Dedcool's Milk, Le Labo Another 13)

KatherineTs

I finally got it and honestly, I haven't thought it would be so hard to describe a perfume. Generally - I love it! strong alcohol at the opening but it fades away really fast, leaving weirdly clean, inoffensive and calming scent. Many said it's not a blind buy, as it works differently on people's skin, and I guess with mine, it worked great.

The scent itself is very skin-like. Doesn't smell like anything similar and is unique from what I've had. I guess it's perfect for everyday wear as it's subtle yet smells beautiful

definitelasts

I love wearing this bare. I'm sure it's lovely to layer, but I find it magical by itself. When I put it on my neck and behind my ears, I feel like I can smell it on me nearly all day. It's going to be different for everyone. My bestie smells delicious in a different way from how I wore it. This is perfect for a lowkey day where you don't want to wear anything loud. I haven't found anything like this, so it is a staple in my collection.

XOXO_marcel

It really doesn't smell like much of anything. It's a barely noticeable soft musk. I wear it to work so I can feel fresh and put-together, but it's not something I crave.

tthelemonsong

My partner goes absolutely FERAL for this perfume. As soon as I step out of the bathroom after applying, they immediately notice and say “what smells so good…?!”

I love the smell too but I feel as tho I go nose blind to it pretty quick, but apparently my partner can smell it all day!

vennska

I like this. It does not evoke any strong emotion, but it is distinctly "nice". It is subtle, soft, and skin-like. I can imagine this being worn by a "clean girl" who doesn't want to smell like perfume, or by people who's school/job bans fragrance. I would say it adds a little softness to the skin while remaining completely undetectable to other people, unless their nose is pressed up on where you sprayed it!

Navster

I absolutely love this, so soft, cozy, clean, inoffensive. It smells so nice without being perfumey which is not my thing (I don't enjoy gourmand, chypre nor heavy sharp citrus, strong aldehydic florals so I'm very happy I found this lol).Blind bought this and glossier you, I think they're both great but I find JHAG is better IMO as it's not peppery like YOU and more versatile.Very easy wear! Can't wait to explore more of these types of fragrances!

robwest21

I love layering this scent with other fragrances like Burberry goddess, it gives it more projection.

locustplague

Incredible, lovely skin scent. I want to call it overpriced considering how subtle it is, but I keep coming back to it, and I've never found any other fragrance quite like it. It's unique in its simplicity. As others have said, this will smell different depending on your skin chemistry, so I wouldn't recommend blind buying this. On my skin, it's a sort of dreamy, warm musk. Virtually no sillage, but it's great when I want to wear something just for me. I wear it under the collar of my shirt so I can smell it all day.

Cons: The initial alcohol smell is much more noticeable here than with other perfumes. It goes away after a minute or two as it would with any other fragrance, but the subtlety does nothing to hide it. The bottle itself is also kind of tacky, if you care about that sort of thing.

evrgreen

very nice, subtle, clean skin smell. it’s great for layering scents, not so much as a standalone.

PERaven

I used to be able to smell Another 13 and wore it as my signature. Bought a new bottle and now I can’t smell it! Sold my bottle of A13 and bought JHAG NAP which I can smell and I really like it. Lovely clean smell that reminds me of clean laundry blowing in the spring air, beautiful.

Peanutbutterandsmelly

This is one of my favorite perfumes ever. It's slightly sweet and musky, a very sexy scent. It's unisex enough my husband likes to wear it too, his skin will pull a slightly spicier, woodier note than mine. Definitely not safe for a blind buy as it really changes based on your body chemistry. I've smelled some of the cheaper perfumes that are known "dupes" for NAP, but they don't hit the same way.

mishka222

smells like a baby's bum in the best way possible

renamamiya

I can barely smell this. It kind of smells like a t shirt that was in your closet for like, two days. Not offensive, just a t shirt. I wanted to so desperately be one of the people that is amazed by this but I took a loss!

bbkay

I love musks & skin scents…this is maybe my least fav perfume of all time…I have a visceral reaction whenever I catch a waft of this in a club or bar. I tried samples of this & superdose - both smell like Axe body spray but even screechier & more acerbic. What note is in this that makes me hate it so much?

scliesrwat

i am completely nose blind to this, it smells like nothing on me

Fainkfrag147

This is the only perfume of this kind that I own so its special to me, even more since it was a gift.

This was pretty much the only scent I could wear when I worked at an airport, since they're strict on what fragrances you can wear (they can't be loud , only soft gentle skin scents were allowed)

On me this fragrance smells very clean and even a tad citrusy. Its so fresh in the summer. It really acts different according to your skin chemistry. I heard there's people that can't even smell it or others that hate the smell. I happen to love it. Also something I noticed is that when I wear freshly washed clothes, this (not a) perfume makes the laundry detergent smell of my clothes even more potent. Doesn't bother me though.

Siv7Stars

Can't smell it. A huge surprise since I thought that the screeching amberwoody smell that so many douse themselves in at the moment was ambroxan... Apparently not, since this is just nothing.. maybe a tiny hint of nail polish remover.. Bewildered. Send help.

phh710

I’ll start with a small disclaimer, this is not a safe blind buy and this scent is very personal chemistry specific. If NAP works with your chemistry magic will happen. It smells like hugging an angel on a cold sunny winter day in a forest of white flowers. It’s a scent meant to be sprayed on your skin and not your clothes. It also needs a couple of minutes to develop. On first spray it’s solid alcohol and something spicy. After it dries down it’s a creamy beautiful soft delicious almost indescribable scent. Men and women always ask me what I’m wearing when I have NAP on.

mayvray

I literally cannot smell this at all. Smells like water

Ines1225q

It's my daily perfume these days.
But only I can smell it..!
Maybe I should try Le labo's another 13

nbweberg

I was really excited to try this one out after hearing so much about it. When I first put it on, it was all I could smell and it was pleasant but overwhelming at times. Very musky and ambery, and I thought "is it going to be this strong all day?"--it wasn't thankfully, but I did continue to get whiffs of it as I went about my day.
Scent wise, when it started out it truly felt like a skin scent. It made me feel very sexy and reminded me of the feeling of being naked and basking in sunlight, which I loved. As the day went on, it took on an almost powdery scent to me, where the vibe of the scent totally changed and began to remind me of the way my mom's perfume (Amazing Grace by Philosophy) melds with her skin scent--total switch up on the vibe but still pleasant!
All in all, I enjoyed this. I would probably layer it with another scent that might not be as long-lasting as this but could see myself wearing as a "natural" scent on days where I want to smell good but without any effort, kind of like a no makeup makeup look but for scent.

meowing

i love this a lot :3 esp for layering it's sooo yummy and itches my brain in the right places. some of my friends can't rlly smell it but i think it kinda comes w the experience of this scent -- initially i didn't get the hype as i could only smell alcohol but after a few more attempts, it grew on me and i'm very glad it did !

jocing

Too much fancy perfume in the collection.
Sometimes I do want a perfume with a simple solo element just Ambroxan smell.
Is a new born baby skin scent and I myself surprisingly who appreciate niche, fresh, fruit, flower, gothic, classic perfume turn out to like this type of perfume too. There are times you want to wear nothing burden to your nose.

This is sugar skin sweet and new baby born like skin scent to me. My skin chemistry blend well with this perfume. People that not prefer strong perfume or sensitive with alcohol. This will be a great choice. detectable scent and pleasant yet elegant. Is not the musk type of perfume we do always get in musk classic perfume. Is a different approach. Never smell something like this and I LOVE IT.

Is suitable for layering too.

This last longer than expected when you spray on cloth and skin.

bumblebri

i thought i’d like this more than i did, but my intro to JHAG was pear inc so unfortunately all i could smell was the dry down of that scent; very musky fruity sweet vibes

not worth purchasing since i have pear inc, but as a skin scent i think it’s better than glossier you and others. had decent longevity and projected slightly

annafaerie

If you expect a perfume, you’re going to be disappointed. It’s all in the title, this is NOT a perfume.

I first experienced this when I got a sample in the mail in high school. I’d never smelt a true futuristic skin scent before, and this was MIND BLOWING to a then sixteen year old me. I imagined Big City Cool Girls wearing something so unique and special. All the girls at my high school wore fruity body splashes from Victoria’s Secret. Ambroxan wasn’t even in our vocabulary. I have such a fond memory of this one as a result, it really did help me become more knowledgeable about the science of fragrance.

Cozy linen dryer sheet heaven + sexy clean skin + the air after a summer rain. ZERO projection, so this one is just for you and possibly that someone special. I also love to use this as a fixative for other scents, and find that it helps them last longer without noticeably changing the way they smell.

I’ll forever have a soft spot for this one. I’d wear it if I had a gentleman caller and wanted to trick him into thinking I just naturally smell so good. “What perfume is that?” “Oh, no, it’s NOT a perfume.”

Noahperdue

I can BARELY smell it sometimes and other times I don't have much trouble smelling it. Still don't really get what it smells like. Slightly woody, almost like a wet black tea bag. Yeah that's what it smells like. But clean. I think the way I perceive it changes if my nose is stuffy or if it's humid or dry. It's weird. Don't think I like it as much as iso e super as far as these molecular skin scents go. But I'm a guy and maybe this is just more feminine even though it's super unisex.

elyena

I like it. Not enough to buy it but I do like it. It smells to me like wool. Like you went and bought a somewhat fancy wool sweater from Simon's (an upscale/cooler department store in Canada, fancier and younger than the Bay) and got it home and you smelled it and it smells like a mix of wool and the store - in a fancy and pleasant way. Like the store smells really good but you didn't realize it because it's just how it smells, you know? At least for me, it works well on my skin and remains close to me and hasn't morphed into anything too different over time. I would wear it if someone gifted it to me.

LaceyE

I've been testing this fragrance for a few days now. It is stronger and muskier on me than I was expecting, but not unpleasant. It's definitely neutral and inoffensive enough to wear in an office setting.

taylormarie

So nice! It’s like a stronger Ambrette 9, weaker Glossier You. While both are beautiful, Ambrette 9 is just so incredibly weak and You can be a bit much if you accidentally over-spray. NAP is like the perfect balance. Soft, musky, gentle, clean, human. Lovely for all occasions and seasons. Also great to layer with other scents!

Vonette

Not good and also strong. I guess it's iso e? It smells like the base for 75% of contemporary fragrances.

GrenadeGirl

This is the strangest review I've written.. Lol

My daughter and I liked this.. enough... in a barely there 'mmmm.. you just smell good!' kinda way.

However... having applied (normal volume, not overspray) at 6.30am, upon returning from work at about 7pm the reaction of my other half was 'Corr.. God!! What the hell have you just sprayed on yourself it absolutely STINKS!!!'

🤣🤣🤣

I think the appropriate word for this scent would be 'polarising'

miadam728

This is a layering fragrance. Alone it is not strong and is basic but it is a great fragrance for layering. I definitely get light blue but not strong enough to turn me off and make it unoriginal. I use it everyday over SDJ 68 or with JM Dark Amber Ginger Lily.

Also I like this so much more than Superdose which is way to sharp and synthetic for me.

SongNSalt

Oh. My. God. I get it, everyone, I finally get it!

I have read and watched all the reviews, the pros and the cons, the associations used to try to describe it, everything. Nothing can explain it, you really have to try it. And yes, it may not be for everyone, so it's even more important to actually try it yourself.

My curiousity finally got the best of me and I bought a discovery set, which includes Not A Perfume in travel size. So I went for it. Not dousing myself, but I sprayed it pretty generously. The results?

I am in love. It works so well with my own body chemistry! And I can actually smell it, even with my post Covid decimated sense of smell, which can barely read some scents nowadays and hates the rest. I have tried so many frangrances and I was getting pretty discouraged at how similar and generically "perfumey" they read to me. But this?

Oh, this! Beautiful and unique. The best association I've got is clean, comfortable, confident elegance. The possibilities! I cannot speak for longevity quite yet, but I am happy with everything else about it. I will definitely get one in full size and go exploring.

Update: Lord, what have I done?

This is a beast. On my skin, this lasts and lasts and lasts, through showers, baths and some serious skin scrubbing. On clothes? Immortal.

It's still a love, for now, but on that second day, when I'd maybe like to wear something else, and I still get whiffs of this musky... something, now vaguely unpleasant, I wonder.

FeleciaB

This is a huge no for me.

InstantlyApt

Just doesn't meld with my own body chemistry as well as Glossier You. I love scents that are simple and complement what I already have going on, but this one isn't for me as often as You is. Still, it's a solid go-to that is unobtrusive and fresh, musky and warm.

vnoxnoctis

tried this out while at sephora and initially, i thought it was pretty nice--just a subtle, warm skin scent. my sibling loves this perfume and wears it all the time, and i like it on them in small doses, but actually wearing it myself was too much for me. the subtle, warm, musky skin scent became loud as hell on me to the point where it filled up my car so much it almost became stifling, and i only sprayed once or twice on my wrist, which i really didn't expect from a skin scent. there's an almost dusty quality (like a dry sandalwood or cashmere) to this which i actually really love in other fragrances (like death and floral's the sweater we buried you with is hanging in my closet), but with this fragrance, it's just so heavy that it makes me think of smog or something. it sucks too because the performance and longevity of this fragrance is amazing and if it wasn't so stifling, i could even see it being a signature scent. now that the vast majority of it has been cleaned off, i actually really enjoy the subtle skin scent, but i'm not going to buy a fragrance (especially at this price point) if i have to scrub the majority of it off to be able to enjoy it.

Brittany1122

I found this for cheap at Marshall’s. At first I was like, ya know I like it but idk if I would pay full price. Overall a very nice smell though. I wore it at work and someone stopped me and was like “omg what is that?!” It had been hours since I applied. Honestly didn’t think you could smell it but she said she could when I walked by. She said a friend gave her a sample bc she liked it on her too, but said it doesn’t smell anything like it did on me when she wore it. I was just surprised bc i really thought it was long gone and no one could even smell the tiniest bit. Lol So idk maybe this one is a good one for me. Maybe I went nose blind. It’s definitely a save perfume. It feels clean but warm.

acidgypsycat

On me it smells like a factory that produces leather couches and tobacco, super synthetic and even a little revolting. Overpriced for a "perfume" that has only ambroxan in it.

signalfire

White sheets drying in the spring sun and almond wedding cookies rolled in powdered sugar cooling on the kitchen counter.

First spray lasted a full 24 hours. This is incredible.

Thelma Scents

If you're looking for a scent that stays close to the skin, then Not A Perfume is it. It offers a beautiful and mature blend of amber and woodsy notes. There's a pleasant sweet scent from the drydown that gets across when I sniff my wrist. But I don't like sniffing my wrist to smell my Perfume. I won't be buying a bigger bottle becuae I prefer my perfumes to turn heads. But this has its place. Gentle. Calm. Warm, like a hug. And just like a hug, it is short-lived.

miadam728

I love this. It is a fantastic "one note" fragrance to wear around the house, to work or in town to run errands. It is also great in addition to your current perfume. I like it with Jo Malone Dark Amber Ginger Lilly, Wood Sage Sea Salt or Prada Cedar.

chancesdaydream

the only way i can remotely describe this scent is intoxicating. it is not very strong and sticks to my skin but its so warm and i love it so much. definitely one id layer unless im just wearing it for my boyfriend lol.

JemmaBella

This is definitely a skin scent, but it is also great as a base layer to other perfumes, layering or even worn on its own, I love this and it’s definitely a staple in my collection. It is very unique and I haven’t smelt anything like it.

ezrachaviv

no clue how to describe this other than by saying that it smells intimate. not like sex, not like sweat or breath, but like.. the scent that appears after taking a super deep nap all cuddled up with a partner. like accidentally falling asleep together at 1pm and waking up at 6pm all disoriented and thirsty. like unruly bedhead, lines from the wrinkled pillow case pressed into your face, sheets still damp from the warmth of your skin against their skin. not dirty and not overly clean, just smells like a comfortable human. cozy, but not in a weather-based way, more in the sense of closeness and comfort. kinda sweet, but mostly skin. this is the scent my synesthesia imagines when i think about the soft spot on babies' heads. odd, but i've seriously only smelled something similar after taking long naps with loved ones. no other real way to explain it !

jess.sophie.cluse

I can almost never smell this on myself, but I wear it very regularly cause I can smell it on my girlfriend when she pinches it from me, and man it really is indescribable. If even a fraction of the people around smell this on me, it has done its job well enough. I use it as a base for almost anything else I wear other than Glossier You which essentially is a pimped up version of this. Undetectable as a perfume unless you know that’s what it is. People will just think you smell naturally sexy.

Allthingssparkle

I really don't get the hype around this? I have a 5 ml sample and get no amber or woods, just a light musk, unless I layer it with something.

That said, I did layer it with D&G's Devotion this morning (another 5ml sample), and the two are nice together. Devotion is beautiful but lacks in performance for me (same story with all D&G fragrances for me), so perhaps the two playing off of each other will be a win.

sprailey

immediately after wearing this for the first time i finally get what people mean when they try to explain this perfume, this scent is fully indescribable, like if i were to try and say what cetalox smells like the only word i can use is clean?
but it’s gonna be different for just about everyone who tries it so definitely urge against a blind buy

it’s a shame some people cant smell this perfume well bc even tho the sillage is on the weaker end, this wears down into such a pretty skin musk scent that smells kinda floral and amber-y on me. this would be my suggestion for anyone who is looking for smth unique in their collection and wants a perfume that smells nice but isnt super obvious that you’re wearing anything

my only downside is the somewhat synthetic/ alcohol smell in the opening, but really dont let that fool u bc once u give it a few minutes to sit it’s perfect if it takes to ur skin chemistry

pizha

I have a sample of this, when I smelled it in store it just smelt like nothing on paper so I asked if I could get a sample.

after this I sprayed it on skin at home and it smelt really plasticky and to be honest not very enjoyable like old people musty dusty smell, but alas I read some of the reviews and gave it a chance and kept it on my skin.

After one hour of on and off sniffing, I noticed a difference and it ended up being a nice subtle sweet amber with slight musk skin scent and it to be honest is quite addicting and nice smelling, it also dried down to smell a little fresher rather then musty dusty and it quickly went from a 3/10 to a 8/10 and I can imagine this scent being used as a layering scent to amplify ambroxan or amber base notes.

CamJ27

This was a risky blind buy. After sifting through multiple reviews and videos of it, I decided to pull the gun (no pun intended) and buy it.

At first, it smelt like nothing (just alcohol) and I was majorly disappointed. Let it sit on your skin and it develops into this woody, ambery, musk scent. It’s reminiscent of Le Labo 13. Overall, it will be a great layering perfume with other scents. By itself, it’s a soft clean scent.

I suggest trying it at a store and leaving it for 30 mins before making a first impression.

EDIT: This perfume does not come off. I’ve had a shower and I can still smell it. 😂

AimeeMarie

Genuinely could not describe this perfume to you other than to say it's very....clean, musky, and nondescript. I never really considered layering my perfumes until I got this and will say it, on me, works wonderfully both on its own as well as a base layer under other perfumes. On its own, to me it's a 'your skin but better' scent, while layered under other scents it adds a little extra something to it. I've gotten complements both with just this, and with it under other perfumes as well.

Definitely a hit-or-miss scent for people, I completely understand why some people don't like it but for me, it's worked wonders.

RachelPhd

This perfume is wild. It smells like...a wall? Or a piece of paper? But in the best way possible. I don't layer my perfumes, but I can see where this might be great layered. I wear it on it's own and really love it. It is versatile and I think you can wear this day or night, and easily to the office without offending anyone. It does not have strong projection or lasting power on my skin, so taking a travel size tube in the purse or bag to reapply is recommended.

voiket

genuinely couldnt smell a thing for hours, but havingwaited a while i can smell wood and amber. its a scent perfect for my skin, but i cant smell it unless i directly sniff my arm.

Fritos Bean Dip

“Juliette Has A Gun Not a Perfume is a provocative declaration which does not follow the rules of modern perfumery”
I’m gonna be honest if you say some shit like that near me I’m putting a cigarette out on you

luftbahn13

I was expecting something different. A clean, everyday scent or a base layer. For me, the scent is very very faint and gives me nothing but a slight hint of Paper.
I bought a small sample (10ml) and will not buy full size.
Don’t buy a full size if you’ve never tried it, here a blind buy could lead to severe disappointment.

looleeloo

Pleasant, clean, woody. The perfume for people who don't like perfumes (my mom).
Poor sillage I don't really mind, but I wish it would last longer.

ruxela

I swear to God it is water in this bottle!!! nothing! absolutely nothing to smell!

nruthh

This either works on you, or it doesn't. There's no real in-between.

Luckily for me, it works like magic on my skin -- it becomes woody, soft, ambery, clean. I've gotten very few compliments on perfume, but whenever I wear this, I get compliments galore. It just works on my chemistry. Sillage is good; longevity is several hours, like most good perfumes. And it's excellent for layering -- one of my favorite layers is this plus Prada Infusion d'Iris. It makes me feel like a newborn kitten. Anyway, there's no way to know if this will work for you or not until you try it because it is just so chemistry-dependent.

Laurisse

Soft smell that feels cozy and clean. Pulls very sweet on my skin, without any kind of edible note that typically comes with sweetness. Pretty inoffensive and easy to wear. Layers well

danichee

Sprayed a little on my chest before bed and initially I couldn't smell anything. A few hours later (4-5) and I'm getting a thick almost milky smell. Not sure if that is how it developed on my skin over time or if it re-activated and mixed with my perfume from the previous day (Phlur's Missing Person). Further testing required.

chiaraherself

“???” is all I can say about this.

caitlyn_m7

Just know that for some portion of the population, including me, this perfume smells like nothing.

idajessicaelg

I don't smell it at all and my boyfriend doesn't smell it on me neither. Did multiple spray's and it's pure nothingness on me- nothing! I literally can't tell what it smells like.

Orchids55

Great clean scent and lasts long!

Mila97

This is a weird one to me. It opens with a plasticy scent, which put me off at first. The dry down was way softer. After 10 minutes it already smelled better, with a soft musky scent from afar but still a faint plastic scent when I got closer. Luckily, that scent disappeared after an hour and I was left with pure musk. Powdery, almost smelling like luxurious conditioner which I love! I can see that people don't think this is worth the money considering it has almost no projection, but it brings me comfort and makes me feel soft and clean. Will definitely try layering it with my other perfumes! Overall 7,5/10.

nicolespeedyfast

I tried this once at Sephora a few years back before gaining an appreciation for fragrance and I remember being a bit put off. Tried it again today and now I have a couple more choice words.
This reminds me of the smell of a beachside cabin in Parksville, British Columbia that I visited almost every summer in childhood.
Very light and, by its nature, slightly synthetic. It’s lifeless and cold; uninviting without being unapproachable. The fragrance equivalent of the brutalist concrete mansion of a mentally tortured tech billionaire.
Personally nostalgic and I’ll consider buying a small amount to experiment with layering. It’s still very nice on its own, but the opening was distinctly sour.

Odor Aeternitatis

To me, this one is a very cheap and heavy musky fragrance. The only interesting thing about this one is the name of the fragrance: NOT a perfume. Because to me it is really not perfume. I know fragrance like this is good for those who don't like perfume but want to wear some minimalistic, transparent, and pale fragrance to smell clean.A good option for layering as well.
5/10

ag333

health care girlies/clean girl aesthetic- this is perfect for us. I really can’t wear strong scents to work or even most EDPs for patient care so something like this is perfect. It smells light and airy, not to strong and brings out a natural sweetness that I can smell on myself without bothering those around me. I get compliments on this saying I smell good but it’s not bothersome where people around me are sneezing- which has happened to me a few times now (replica Bubble Bath! 💔) Anyway, this is great and would make a good gym scent as well. This one is a love it or hate it it seems so try it out. I grabbed a 3.3 oz with a Sephora favorites kit during the sale so I paid $60 for a full size and I’ll blow through this bottle for work and just everyday errands. I rarely pay full price for perfumes anyway, but I especially don’t think it’s worth the full price for what it is. For me it’s just an easy reach & subtle scent.

vtothek

Please don’t mistake this for anything other than what it is, which is a simple skin scent.

I know a lot of people hate ambroxan but I actually like it well enough and it seems to jive with my body chemistry. Don’t expect any sort of sillage from this, it sits on your skin and that’s about it. Only those who are very intimately close to you will be able to detect anything at all. It is light and airy, and good for putting on after a shower and right before bed, or for days when you aren’t feeling great and need something inoffensive and easy to wear. As a reviewer below said this is probably great for layering. The price is kind of outrageous for what it is though.

Truly the perfume for those that aren’t into perfumes.

gh7bli

Dries down on skin vaguely sweet and powdery. Perfect on its own and amazing for layering

ellemn0p

My most complimented perfume and a perfect layering fragrance. I always mix this with all the scents I have in my collection. Longevity is not good but will definitely repurchase!

vnyasova

it's simple but at the same time has her own kinda charm. make me wanna put some high heels boots with a trench coat and some red lipstick 💄

juniperlilacs

I wanted to like this when I got a sample, but it smelled like a vaguely masculine chemical to me. Sharp and kind of chlorinated, which is not what I expected for all the talk of musk, which is in every perfume I own because powder and musk are my favourite notes. It must have just been completely incompatible with my skin. Or maybe a musk for people who don’t like musk?

dabeyondobsessedemperor

Soft, powdery ambroxan - simple, linear, succinct.
It's my first experience with fragrances intended to enhance your natural scent. And I don't know why? But I like the concept, and I sincerely find the resulting scent beautiful. It's subtle, and somewhat synthetic, doesn't project much, reminds me of a neutral hotel room scent, and yet... it somehow commands a sultry, sexy, intimate aura. It's perceived as so f*cking basic that most people just find it mediocre, but I think that the wearer is a key ingredient, and as such it's something that'll be highly subjective. I'm honestly just glad that the ambroxan doesn't present as overly harsh or filthy (ahem, Dior Sauvage, I'm looking at you).
My big quip with this fragrance, as with every other fragrance in this category, I'd imagine, is the performance. I understand it's not supposed to employ a massive sillage, and I appreciate the intimacy of the fragrance that magnetically pulls people closer. However, 2-3 hours of performance in the weather it was intended to be worn? Almost unacceptable to me, if I'm being completely honest. Will you enjoy the 2-3 hours you're wearing the fragrance? Yes. But no matter how many sprays you've applied on yourself, your scent most probably won't be lasting through the lunch break, let alone the entire day.
Overall, though, Not a Perfume is a splendid introduction into the world of molecular, natural scent-boosting fragrances, and I'm curious about other takes on this concept. This fragrance is also my first discovery into Juliette Has a Gun, and I'm intrigued by the ethos of the brand. I hope to try more fragrances from them soon, starting with Ode to Dullness, which I heard is a comforting motherly hug in a bottle.

QueOndaGuera

The Lacroix of perfume. I’m humored by the comments that love this fragrance because I unfortunately can’t detect much of anything. Initial spray is a spicy, clean, mineral smell that isn’t bad but it’s not quite what I was expecting. A little bit synthetic and metallic. Then it’s gone in 20 minutes. I guess I’ll need to try layering with other fragrances and see how it goes.

GentileGenteel

I can see the appeal but NOT for the price. Intimate skin scents that play off of your personal chemistry are always very interesting to me. Unfortunately this goes full blast warm powdermusk and very sweet on me, which I personally don't enjoy. What really gets me is that this lasted less than 2 hours on me. As a 'single-note' perfume who's main scent compound are ludicrously easy and inexpensive to produce, with how long it lasted this should really be a 15-20 dollar bottle in my opinion-and that's if I enjoyed the scent on myself.
Really honestly it's a fine scent and it might be lovely on you, but this is an absolute novelty sell and is only WORTH a fraction of its value from the viewpoint of someone who has experience in the manufacturing and lab sector side of luxury fragrance production. Yes, every fragrance is pennies to the tens of dollars in terms of production to floor retail value, but this one is pretty absurd for such poor performance. I know of a few indie perfumeries that produce a nearly identical blend of base compounds that retail their bottles for under 15. If you love this genuinely seriously PLEASE stop wasting your money on Juliette Has A Gun's designer price point underperformer and try out a designer level performance version at a price that makes switching away from the actual designer so worth it.

cherrydays

this layered with magnolia bliss (or pretty much any jhag juice) is a beautiful mix<3 definitely a layering fragrance

stinkysmellysurly

I got this when it was first released and loved it, but repurchased it more recently and found the repurchase to be much weaker and less mysterious. The original purchase wore well on me and didn't have massive projection but was noticeable, but I feel like my recent bottle disappears quickly and wears Very close to the skin. Still like it but it's disappointing.

Amber&Oud

alleged notes:
cetalox, iso e super
habanolide, musks

what i smell:
clean, isopropyl alcohol

scent event / my reaction:
deffo a layering perfume, this smells like rich art students who never do the dishes on time

smellyish

absolutely in love with this fragrance. it's simple but not one dimensional. very clean and ambery to me. i just wish it lasted longer on the skin considering the price.

YourFragranceFriend

Despite being so simple, this fragrance is hard to describe. It's light, it smells of minerals, slight wood, amber, sweet, and yet like alcohol. When I first tried this, I loved it. Then, it started smelling chemically almost like smelling nail polish remover from across the room. Strangely, I've started loving this again! I've been wearing it a ton in high heat and loving spraying it on throw blankets. It lasts for days and days on blankets. It gives the most cozy yet clean scent without smelling like laundry detergent. Currently, I have a 5ml trial spray that I'm almost done with. When I finish this, I'd definitely look into a good sale at discounters or even try the Dossier dupe.

krissiekat

this is so goooood!!! however on me it’s just woody - i don’t think it smells particularly «clean» or fresh. it’s more woody and warm, a bit spicy. i really like it so far, even though it doesn’t last long:(

jmillm

Everyone seems to love this one but oh my god… it’s absolutely disgusting on me!! Smells horrific, like a terrible rotten smell. I sprayed it on one wrist and the fragrance was very overpowering and immediately developed the bad smell that overpowers every other element of the fragrance.

opining.olfaction

It's a YES for me!
I sprayed this on at Sephora and immediately thought it was a whole dud!
BUT w/in a few minutes, I started to smell this wonderful, clean skin, musky, amber, fresh (and maybe a little green for me too) smell when I smelled my arm.
And as time wore on and I moved around, I could/can still smell this beautiful fragrance!!

I'm getting it!
I also wanted to mention, this reminds me ALOT of Jessica Simpson's I Fancy You...which I did not like due to the pear in it. And although I find these perfumes similar (according to what I can remember), I love this - but I did NOT like the JS fragrance. The pear in it was extremely annoying to me.

JKeto

This smells like an extremely watered down Glossier You. 10 sprays of this is as strong as 0,5 sprays of You.

LadyT33

I associate this perfume with my cousin that passed away. Back in the early 80’s her house smelled just like this. The first time I sprayed it on me in Sephora I immediately thought of her. I LOVE Ambroxan. I love to wear this perfume after I take a shower, before I go to bed. It’s clean, musky, uncomplicated and comfortable. Perfumes don’t have to have 109 notes to be good. This is a minimalist scent that smells great. I don’t layer it or mix it with any other fragrance. I wear this perfume as is. Sadly, I dropped a bottle of it off the dresser and it shattered into a million pieces! The wood floors smelled great, though. lol I need to get a replacement bottle.

auror

I feel like a barbie when I wear this! I mean on a good way. It is chic, neutral, appropriate, uplifting and comfortable at the same time. It is not a common and usual scent but at the same time it is not foreign. It made me feel happy as if I living in my pink barbie world. I want to have a bottle later.

nrobinson2152

This is too expensive to sit as close to the skin as it does and to disappear altogether as quickly as it does. There is a lot you can buy in this price range with better longevity. It is very pleasant though and maybe it would stay on someone else. I wish it did for me.

curledupwithagoodbook

Making this review in case there is someone else out there like me!

I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to fragrances - I can rarely pick out different accords, and don't like the vast majority of fragrances out there. In part this is because I have migraine disorder - smelling the garbage can on the wrong day can trigger a migraine for me. When I read other reviews on fragrances mentioning that they do 3-4 spritzes all I can think is that you'd probably kill me! My dad is also allergic to fragrance, so I have otherwise made the rest of my life (deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, dry shampoo, etc) all fragrance free. BUT I want to smell nice for myself - but I don't want anyone else to smell me either because I know how horrible it is to be the one that has to hold your breath on the bus because the person next to you is doused in something (even if it is arguably a beautiful scent). It's a really narrow niche for a fragrance to fit into, and I long assumed I just couldn't wear anything.

Enter, JHAG Not a Perfume

I love it. For me I still don't wear it on a day where I am seeing my dad, or when my head is feeling even a bit wonky, but on days where I feel healthy, I love to wear this. It makes me feel clean, put together, and comfortable in my own skin. On me it smells like I just stepped out of the shower, skin still damp, with just a little bit of sweetness. Someone else mentioned the smell of river stones but sweet and I totally get that too. I still smell it on my skin and clothes even a full 24 hours later, and on my clothes I can still smell it days later - even after a wash sometimes (denim in particular). I might be in the minority here, and just extremely sensitive, but I never seem to get nose-blind to it. I use very little, like one spray max, and usually on my stomach under where pants sit - again, aiming for the most discreet scent that is noticeable only to me. My husband occasionally will say I smell nice after a hug, but he can't tell that I'm wearing anything specific, just that I smell like 'me'.

My absolute favourite, but totally understand why it might not be for everyone.

Claugregg

It is extremely hard for me to rate this perfume since I cannot smell it super well. I smell mostly alcohol. But let me tell you, people around me go crazy for this perfume. I don't get much comments about how I smell unless I have this perfume on, which is crazy to me because I don't even smell it! But in the future, I think i'll just buy straight up ambroxan.

brightawake

I don’t mind ambroxan, but you can buy it straight up for fairly cheap so I don’t love the idea of paying for essentially one chemical that’s easy to get your hands on.

imacat88

to me, reminds me the smell of stones close to water and forest, the smell of those stones but sweet.
i love it, i LOVE it!!!

Delrey2002

This perfume is literally what the name says "not a perfume". I can't even smell it, I sprayed it 3 times and it smelled like a subtle water with soap or deodorant scent, nothing at all. It's like giving money to spray an odorless water.

merilde

It is definitely interesting and I suggest everyone try it on their skin even if they don't think of buying it, for the giggles. It smelled like flowers on me, like lemons on my mother and like men's cologne on my friend (she was really upset :D). Though I must say it had the tinge of metallic pencil shavings on everyone. I layered it with Naomi Campbell and it took away the musky powder notes of it and made it more fresh, also somehow made all the notes very distinct and not like a mush of scents. I really liked how it smelled on my skin -clean and flower notes, so hopefully I'll be able to buy a whole bottle one day.

profesorahb

This is just straight earthy, metallic on my skin. It has eventually dried down into smelling like fresh blood. I think it will be super cool for folks whose chemistry and sense of smell are more compatible. Definitely not a safe blind buy.

M4rkéta

Lives up to the hype. True neutral. I just wish it would stay on clothes longer. It does better on skin than it does on clothes. :( ALSO this scent is to die for on a man. Somehow it's pure pheromones.

Lilah_lilah2023

Very faint, a bit too unisex for my liking, not my favourite.

oobaceb

Can barely smell it at all sometimes, and other times its pleasant but super faint. Half of my friends and family can smell it on me and it seems to project pretty well and they say it smells great and the other half of my friends and family can't smell it at all. For the price I'd rather wear a perfume that everyone can smell on me.

watermelonmami

I don’t even understand how and why, but I get more compliments on this perfume than anything else I own. I do about 3-4 spritz’s and within a two hour window after putting it on, I’ll get a compliment. When you spray it on, it’s really peppery and musky. But I’ve heard people tell me I smell like flowers, I don’t smell that at all. I do love this for everyday wear or to the gym. A staple fragrance!

vamppixie

On me, this is a really beautiful sweet ambery musk. Almost soapy. Definitely leans feminine but I wouldn’t mind smelling this on a man. I’m obsessed

OtherPeople'sChildren

On me this smells like freshly blow dried hair, still warm from the styling tools. Not unpleasant, but why I’d spend money to smell like that is beyond me. I’m going to experiment by spraying this on a loved one and seeing if it’s experienced differently.

BlissfulLez

Finally bit the bullet to see what’s the hype about. Got it for a really good deal at Costco. As soon as I opened it, I immediately smelled Nemat Amber, which I already own. It’s a scent that I can first detect upon applying but I am nose blind to it afterwards. Other people smell it, but I don’t. I forgot I had layered VS strawberries & champagne and JLo still perfume hours ago and added JHAG not a perfume on top and it amplified the body mist and JLo still that I already had on, like 100%. Will continue to test it out, definitely will use on rotation or for days where I don’t know what to wear.

Babey

First time commenting twice anywhere but this one is for all the people that, like me, couldn't figure out how this perfume could perform greatly sometimes then just not be present at others. Well friends, the trick is, from my personnal experience, to spray it far from the skin. Be able to only make the mist touch your skin, like how you would spray a deodorant. It worked wonders anytime i did that with this frag !

Fragnant

If Morton’s salt with the umbrella girl was a scent. I think of club soda or rubbing your back and hand across the tv static that you used to do as a kid. If cellophane was a fragrance. Not a perfume is overhyped. You can layer it as a base beneath other fragrances. Think perfume primer. I’m sure they’ll come out with a perfume primer in the next decade to improve longevity of fragrances.

MrsJackDaniels

It's almost exactly like when you walk by someone's house in the winter and they are doing laundry and you can intensely smell the dryer exhaust in the cold air, but with saltiness added in. I really like it, but there is no sillage whatsoever. No one is going to smell it unless they press their nose into your skin. It is perfume for yourself only, or for sex.

BourgeoisBanana

Someone in my past definitely used this on a daily basis and I can’t seem to put my finger on it. The thing is, I don’t like this but I can totally see the appeal. It’s a unique scent that is oddly complicated and it being one molecule makes that really cool. It’s also really really strong both in longevity and sillage.

Thing is, something in my subconscious doesn’t like this if that makes sense. I’m not repulsed by the smell of it, I can handle it being on my body, but something about the smell of it leaves me feeling confused and unpleasant which could just be connected to whoever this was associated with from my past but personally for me, it’s a no just because of how complicated it makes me feel.

WitchQueen

7.5/10. One of best no perfume perfumes I've tried. Pleasant nothingness. Good for the office and nothing else. But I don't work in an office so it's of no use to me.

Edit: Actually I would never wear it to the office because apparently some users wrote that it can smell offensive to some noses (but not mine).

Elyze

This was a blind buy for me. I have had it for about 8 months now and it's become a favourite.

I have it on today and it's been 6 hours and I can still smell it on me and I'm not an oversprayer - only about 3/4 sprays in total.

On me, it's slightly woody and warm and it has been a compliment-getter.

Diyaa

Really loved the scent trail this leaves but there is this woody ness and overly floral vibe that gives you a headache if you feel nauseous easily. So if you are a beginner with perfumes make sure to get a tester first.

sabertooth_salem

Aldehydes, baby! This is a classic in the "you, but better" genre. This has even less of a scent than Le Labo's Another 13, Glossier's You, and DS Durga's I Don't Know What. A waft of musk, a hint of warmth, but really just pleasant-smelling nothingness.

I cannot agree more with @whateverwhocares in calling this an über, subtle flex. If I were to get complimented whilst wearing this, I might shrug and tell that person I was wearing nothing. The perfect fragrance to gaslight yourself and your loved ones.

Whateverwhocares

Almost a 😐. Another über subtle flex. Very refined and distant amber note. Doesn’t exactly jump out at you. Mild woodsy base. Relatively strong, musky overtone. Leans femme…mildly, of course. Meh across the board. A mild meh-nnered fragrance.

SweetBonnebelle

smelled like nothing at first. sprayed it on my hand. smells like sea salt, beach. kinda boring.

rosewoodoud555

Boring. I hate molecule-style frags, except Like No Other by Bonet, a Vietnam brand (Iso-e-super/musky). It's bitter, sour, and just boring... Smells like clean clothes with a cheapy detergent

periwinklewinter

Fortunately, I'm one of the lucky people to whom Cetalox smells pleasant. On my skin and to my nose it's an incredibly warm and cozy skin smell. Imagine a person that's so damn hot, that even the way their skin naturally smells is sexy. That's what it smells like to me. It lasts decently well, but unfortunately the sillage is pretty weak. I have yet to test this one out for layering with other frangrances.

kaytiewright

every once in a while i go into a sephora to test this, just to see if ill smell something. I wanna smell it since all the similar perfumes are my favourites.

Edit: I found it at my local winners for $79CAD and bought it. I couldn’t pass up that price. maybe someone else will smell it on me haha.

luanneog

Smells spicy sort of like nutmeg. Maybe peppery. Kind of sweet and animalic. Definitely softer than Superdose. But as always, very unpleasant to me. Unfortunately for me, I'm very sensitive to molecules such as ambroxan. It smells horrible on my skin, on other's skin, on a paper strip, on the air. Honestly I wish I was at least anosmic to it. Based on the reviews I just know I'm going to hate Glossier You, Molecule 01, Another 13, etc.

Matt01

This fragrance is musky and woody. I get a slight sweetness at the base as well. It’s a very natural sweetness almost like clean skin. This does give a “I naturally smell this good” vibe.

I pretty much wear this fragrance every day, and I never get sick of it. It’s also great for layering with other fragrances. This is a skin scent, so it doesn’t project very far. I have noticed that it leaves a small scent trail, however.

Rating: 9/10

Embodied~Professor

These molecule perfumes work better when they’re not sprayed in a concentrated jet close to the skin. Hold the bottle or sample farther away or mist yourself and walk through. I find that spraying too close is what leads to those horrible cleaning product/ intense animalic notes. Not a Perfume becomes heavenly—a soft, powdery, slightly floral white musk—when sprayed with a lighter hand. I hope this helps someone enjoy this scent!

vixxiimcmlxxxvii

First of all, to anyone who is unfortunate enough to not be able to smell this on yourself, or at all, I'm so sorry. To those who smell something unpleasant, I'm even more sorry. What I get from this is, oddly enough as it hasn't been listed in the 'reminds me of' section, Hollister's Malaia, that oldie but goodie from high school. Like I smell it so much that it makes me want to get a bottle, but I was so traumatized by that atomizer that I think I'm good without it. Maybe for old time's sake I'll get one, but only because they have the new bottle--let's just hope that juice is the same. I'm fully convinced there's little to nothing in that but cetalox, and reading the notes of Malaia, I'm calling BS. That would be a cheap way to make a perfume...especially for a large corporation selling to young people who don't know better. ANYWAY. This sits so close to the skin--it's almost disappointing. But! Then I move, even an inch, and I smell it. Even just typing, I am getting whiffs.

When I first tried this, it was at a Sephora inside a Kohl's when I was dropping off an Amazon return. It was really quick; one spritz on the wrist, only knowing that I needed to try it on skin because blind buying was supposedly not a good idea. I gave myself a spritz and talked to the cashier for a minute while it dried, distracting me from trying the Superdose. I walked away, topped off the Libre EDP I was wearing for the day with their tester haha, sprayed a couple samples on paper, and left. Soon as I finally found my boyfriend after walking around sniffing tester strips, I smelled my wrist and I was like "Oh...that's nice. Light but nice." Basically just confirmation that I didn't smell "sewage" or "burning rubber" as others have. Ordered a bottle that same day. Yesterday it came and--WOW, I really DID NEED TO BUY THIS, gorgeoussss. But this isn't what I smelled initially. That's not true--I really don't know WHAT I smelled initially. Again, I had LIbre EDP on that day and I had just gotten done creating myself little test strips for the walk around, my nose was definitely in use and distracted, you could even say it was a little tired from sniffing Jazz Club for the hundredth time--still hating it. I absolutely love this by itself; I tried to layer it with Baby Tous because I wanted to see if it would help with longevity of weaker perfumes, I don't really have any but my baby son's came in handy. It does not help with the longevity! But I'm not mad at it--this smells soooo nice alone. It really is your-skin-but-better, light but noticeable. I do wish I'd have been mindful and tested Superdose, I have a feeling I'll end up BUYING THAT TOO lol, but I'm not complaining. My bf might though!

I absolutely DETEST the bottle; the white/silver/red really reads 2010 (which would make sense) and it's just not pretty sitting out, in my opinion (for what it's worth). Then again, it can keep Prada Candy Kiss, also out of place, company. But, who really CARES--I'll probably use this up so quickly that it won't even matter--I may even leave it in my bathroom drawer so I can douse myself in it after each shower. Again, not worried about it spoiling cause I know I'm gonna burn through this!

All in all, it's a very nice, completely inoffensive fragrance TO MY NOSE. I know we don't all share that experience but I don't know. I think if you get the chance to sample it, do so! You might be pleasantly surprised. It's musky and fresh, feminine on me. Speaking of--maybe I'll have my bf wear it after he showers off his Spicebomb so I can see if there's any difference on his skin!

Edit: topped off generously before bed and my bf said “Damn babe, you smell good!” Enough said. Mind you, I’m going in and out of being able to smell it. It comes and goes, but I’m pretty blind to it right now for the most part.

Sbg9s

This certainly lives up to it's name, because it does not smell like much at all. It's extremely intimate, and the smell I do pick up is a wet rock. It smells clean and not bad, but I don't see the point if nobody can smell me, even myself. I have to literally sniff my arm to pick up any scent at all. Dissapointing.

mrebjam

If you like skin scents, this is a great one! Very warm. Very simple. You but better. I feel like it's great to have on hand if you're going to be in a situation with people who might be sensitive to frangrances, but you still want to wear a little something.

BloomingSomewhere

It's clean and spicy and citrusy and floral..... Smells exactly like a vag to me 🌸👀 Both straight out of the bottle and on my skin, the top notes and the dry down. I can't be the only one to think this can I??

Not in a bad way though, I actually quite like it! And when I wear it my boyfriend loses his mind haha, even though he has never mentioned me smelling different when i wear it. subtle in a good way.

honeyedclover

The polarizing reviews all come down to simple chemistry and one's own genetics. If you didn't already know, cetalox (AKA ambroxan by some) is the main component of this fragrance. It is a manufactured molecule. The kicker? Not everyone can smell it!!! You can either smell it and perceive it positively or negatively, or you just may not smell it at all! Those who cannot smell it likely have a genetic variation that makes them unable to smell cetalox.

And how I truly pity those that cannot smell (or negatively perceive) the masterpiece that is Not A Perfume! Such a shame that they are missing out on one of the most iconic clean-skin musks on the market! I feel lucky that this is such a beautiful scent on my skin. For me, this smells like fresh, clean skin a few hours after a bubble bath; natural, pristine, white musk. There is also a soft woodsy and ambery undertone that adds a bit of sweetness, one could even interpret it as a slight white floral. Absolutely addicting. I've smelled this in my dreams, I am so influenced by how effortlessly pretty this scent is—I am currently hellbent on getting my hands on the 100ml bottle or the Superdose. Once I have it, I can see it easily making its way to my all-time favorites.

It sits close on the skin, as one's natural musk would sit. Lasts forever, even a bit remains after showering. Suitable for all seasons, day or night—it is "your skin but better" after all! Not a safe blind-buy however, as I have noted. In terms of Glossier's You being a potential dupe, I would say yes, HOWEVER, You has more sillage, but not more staying power. You also has a definitive floral and powder note where Not A Perfume does not. I enjoy both, but would say Not a Perfume is more effortlessly sexy and mysterious.

dananic4

Love this one! I was really hesitant to try it and was convinced it was going to be gross or smell like nothing. Shockingly enough I love it. I don't know why, I guess it just works well with my particular skin chemistry. I don't get a soapy detergent type of scent from it at all, on me it's like a fresh but warm, slightly woody scent. It doesn't smell masculine on me at all, just like a cozy familiar type of scent that's still appropriate for every day wear. I am not great with identifying fragrance notes just yet so it's difficult to describe. But it's a pleasant, light, inoffensive type of scent that I would wear daily or to the office for sure. Awhile ago I ran out of my tester and bought Glossier You since it was less expensive and I've seen tons of reviews saying they smell similar. Glossier You smells very different on me, it's much more of that spicy peppery type of scent. I like them both and I see some similarity, but on me they are still very different fragrances and I prefer JHAG Not A Perfume.

I layered Not A Perfume with another fragrance that I thought complimented it when I was going to visit a relative. Upon walking in the door they immediately mentioned how good I smelled and asked me what I was wearing. I also put Not a Perfume on by itself on to run errands the next day and had a woman go out of her way to say I smelled lovely. I barely remembered I'd put anything on since it's not very strong and couldn't really smell it on myself at that point. I was shocked she could smell any scent, let alone enough to comment on it. I never get compliments on fragrance ever, but this one has had people asking what I am wearing every time I've worn it lately.

Erincess

Sorry I got nothingness. I have glossier you, fluer de peau dypdique, sonic flower of room1015, another13 le labo. I love skin type scents! and i love comparing them. But this one is hmm.. can hardly smell anything, just almost nothing and that nothing also vanished in a minute, i think its more similar to ambrette9 le labo, and bvlgari’s musk magnifying essence.

CJJLOVESFUMES

This one is interesting! I purchased it to layer with Chanel Chance Eau Tendre EDT to help with longevity and it not only helps but it really amps up projection without overpowering or changing the scent.

Little_dragon

I got lucky with this one; it smells lovely and has decent sillage. I bought 2 samples of it and saved it just to spray in my hair (which I highly recommend for those who love it, as it enhances and adds to the fragrance of your shampoo and other hair products. If you use lightly fragranced or fragrance-free hair products, then JHaG NaP fills the gap).

I finally got my hands on a 100mL bottle, and was nervous that I might share the experience of those who found the samples to be more fragrant than the full bottles. I’m happy to say that this was not the case for me, and now I don’t have to be so precious with the sprays. I layer this with almost everything, and I love it on its own, too. What a wonderful not-perfume this is. I get light, clean, musky, fresh laundry-but-not-soapy loveliness that works (for me so far) in all weather and pretty much all social settings.

While the JHaG NaP Superdose does not work on me (I have a nearly full 100mL bottle of that if any UK folks are interested in a swap), the original JHaG NaP is a hardcore love, and will grace my collection as long as JHaG continues to make it.

stephm42120

Sometimes you just need to smell effortless and this simple laundry musky scent does the job for me. Every time I wear this I surprisingly get lots of compliments from my family & friends. My aunt hugged me and asked me what I was wearing because she thought it smelled expensive and clean but sweet on me. I love the Amber in this & it layers amazingly with everything I own.

edit: I asked my girl cousins in middle school to test this out on their skin thinking they would find it repulsive since there’s a lot of hate reviews towards this. Surprisingly this ended up being one of their favorites out of some they tested. I think it’s appealing to all ages and perfectly inoffensive for an everyday work/ school scent. It projects decently and leaves a lovely trail when you walk by. Even my mom walked by my room and said it smells nice over here lol I love catching wafts of it throughout the day.

saturnsays

I bought a sample out of curiosity and now I know what the gross wet mildew scent is that overwhelms all kinds of scents I loathe: ambrox. Eugh. I kept it to train my nose to find it buried in other things.

Leeben1993

So much better then molecule 02. If your on the fence with this one, go for it.
I blind bought molecule 02 and regretted not getting this instead.

0h3ricaa

I STRONGLY hate this fragrance. I thought it was going to smell more clean and fresh but I just get NASTY MUSK. I can see a man wearing this, so much so I ended up giving it to my dad. I don’t mind unisex fragrances and I have quite a few in my collection. But this? The musk is atrocious. Even when my dad wears this, I still despise this fragrance though it smells a tad bit better on him.

I also hate Glossier YOU for the same exact reason. These “skin” musks are just not my thing. No…. just no…

I have a good amount of perfumes that have musk and are unisex, but this is a different KIND of musk. I prefer white musks and musks in gourmands. If anyone comes across my post and does not like these notes or similar perfumes, RUN AWAAY!!!

Not a safe blind buy.

Miss Mego

I received a sample of this and really wanted to try it out because I heard it was so similar to Glossier You, which I love. They are very similar on my skin but Not a Perfume lasts longer and is slightly stronger. I do smell the pencil shavings but it’s in the best way possible, when it warms up it’s a slightly sweet but clean musk on my skin. This is perfect for everyday wear and I will be picking up the full bottle when I run out of You.

Anaidianaortigas

I gotta change my initial review. Upon first trying it out I thought it smelled like pencil shavings but oddly enough I’ve grown to love this perfume. It’s the only one so far I haven’t gotten bored of. I’d say give it some time, maybe you’ll end up liking it

StrawberryX

Tested but could not smell anything at all. Never happened with a perfume before. I can smell ambroxan otherwise, really strange.

miko_okim

For those complaining about the smell or its absence - I am with you 🙌 Bought a 100 ml bottle and I am disappointed! First I feeI a strong ethanol and after it gets stinky and superficial. Not the same odor I got from JHaG Parisian boutique. I guess JHaG had some sort of the perfume reformulation. Next time will grab a smaller volume, as it seems there is the problem related to 100 ml perfume bottles only…
