L’Autre Oud Eau de Parfum by Lancôme is a Amber Woody fragrance for women and men. L’Autre Oud Eau de Parfum was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Christophe Raynaud. Top notes are Saffron, Cypriol Oil or Nagarmotha, Labdanum and Clary Sage; middle notes are Agarwood (Oud), Turkish Rose and Bulgarian Rose; base notes are Agarwood (Oud), Guaiac Wood, Myrrh, Gurjan balsam, Patchouli, Vetiver, Amyris and Moss.

Lancome launches L'Autre Oud in October 2012 as a part of the luxurious and exclusive collection. The scent is inspired by traveling the Orient. Opulent, rare and mysterious, this new fragrance provides Lancome vision of popular oud. L'Autre Oud is an allegory of the mythical tree located between shadow and light, strength and tenderness, freshness and sensuality.

The formula is simple: seventeen ingredients were carefully selected to convey the point and the theme as best as they can. It starts off with spicy notes of saffron, cypriol from India, labdanum absolute and aromatic clary sage. The heart consists of Turkey rose and Bulgaria rose absolute. The rich, powerful and woody base is made of guaiac wood, green and wet patchouli, vetiver, amyris wood, moss, gurjun balm and myrrh asolut. Perfumer is Christophe Raynaud.

The fragrance is available in bottles of 75 ml at the price of 120 Euros.

Very high quality smooth refined woody-oud-rose scent. Airy projection and never harsh. I find L'Autre Oud a milder version of Loewe Opera en el Teatro Real. The notes develops and unfolds as I wear it, and it is indeed a very pleasant process. It leaves a nice sillage. Suitable for more mature and elegant lady and perhaps not blind buy safe.

Having also sampled Lancôme Oud Bouquet today, a gourmand take on a rose-oud scent, L'Autre Oud is more of a classic rose-oud scent (albeit a mild oud for Western tastes). It is a woody, refined scent, with herbal nuances and a hint of spice.

AO opens with a smooth woody accord, led by mild, dry, woody oud. There is no animalic skankiness here. There is some soft, peppery spice up top, and the green cypriol adds a herbal undertone, but it is never bitter or harsh. It is smooth and pleasant, slightly leathery thanks to the labdanum, but of the polished, refined kind.

As it develops, the jammy rose becomes quite prominent, marrying nicely with the oud, which blends seamlessly into the woody-amber accord of the base. The amber becomes more resinous as it progresses, but remains sweet and reasonably light. A pinch of patchouli adds earthiness, complementing the sweet amber to perfection. It is beautifully balanced - not too dry, not synthetic or harsh, but smooth and lightweight yet rich. It fades to a sweet musky skin scent. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. It is a cold-weather scent.

A feminine-leaning, unchallenging rose-oud scent, AO is fairly classic in style, high-quality and easy to wear. It is unisex in my opinion. Straightforward and approachable as it is beautiful, AO is a great introductory rose-oud scent that avoids banality. 4.5/5.

Lancome L'Autre Oud
(38JN1S, November 2012, USD 60, approx 50 ml. Left)

First Impresion, collection day.

Lancome L'Autre Oud is such a refine rendition of Oud & Rose, without additional from Anything nessesity.
I slight prefers L'Autre than Oud Bouqet which is borderline coiling for me.

Update 1 on 16 July 2023
(3 full wear test)

My bottle of L’autre Oud might suffer from incorrect keep as this is 2nd hands item.

This is very mild oud fragrance and rose play major role in composition.

It is linear without much develop but that rose is beautiful with tiny drop of Oud in woody aspect (no animalic, no medicinal whatsoever) make this become more like Rose & Wood fragrance

Airy & Light, this can be easy grab for you. The scent project beautifully.

Speaking of my bottle is projecting around 1 arm length and It barely makes pass 4 hours (maybe I just nose blind)

Score 7/10 (for this particular bottle)

I got it available for decanting. Pm me if interested

This is what I wanted Miller Harris Scherzo to smell like. This is divine opulence. There is no sweetness, but it's deep and woody. I may very well prefer this to Oud Bouquet. That leather vibe from saffron is smooth. There is some resemblance to Bond no 9 Chelsea Nights, but CN has some sweetness to it. This is done better overall. I got the vintage 75ml bottle. The newer bottles smell exactly the same to my nose. I had a sample of the newer fragrance. Either way this is getting harder to find.
Of the three Maison Lancome Ouds, I would say L’AO is the star, once you have a more refined nose and not easily distracted by the loud, sweet, obvious fragrance that is Oud Bouquet.

KELIZ

I get leather & suede vibes from this fragrance even though those notes are not found in this.
It’s very pleasant & I love it for a man. Feels western cowboy but anyone that likes it would be able to rock it & get compliments.

So much to say about this one...

This first intrigued me as the bottle reminded me of the Doors of Durin or the West Gate being the doors which lead into Moria - huge LOTR fan 😅.

I was lucky to find an unopened bottle on eBay since this has been discontinued for a while, whilst also managing to get it for such a great price! I will admit that I knew this wasn't a safe blind-buy based on reviews and the notes, but I was eager to get my hands on the bottle itself. When it finally arrived I opened it and I was in absolute awe, the bottle was even more stunning than I had expected.

I spayed a little on my wrist with an open mind and it was a little out of my comfort zone however what is to be taken away from this is how masterfully it was created, using absolutely no oud but somehow capturing its essence is incredibly noteworthy. Through experimenting, I've found that for me this is more palatable when layered beneath a sweet fragrance, this gives it some oomph and somehow creates a mouth-watering creamy nuttiness when layered with something with vanilla. The dry down of L’Autre Oud is slightly animalic but this can be overlooked when paired with something sweet.

Aside from giving other fragrances a wonderful base this also increases their longevity, the quality ingredients that are housed in L’Autre Oud really present themselves well with nothing to prove. Personally I wouldn't wear L’Autre Oud on its own as it is a little overwhelming to me, then again the main goal was owning the bottle but with that I've found an extremely versatile layering fragrance.

So glad to of found a bottle of this and to treasure it for many years to come!

I was looking for oud bouquet so I could have an extra bottle since it has been discontinued however I found this on a shop that apparently wasn't supposed to have it so they were selling it for £45 (ABSOLUTE BARGAIN) I bought it straight away, it does remind me of oud bouquet just without the sweetness and leans slightly masculine and dry which I also like just not every day, not a love like oud bouquet but I'm glad I have it in my collection

katesuisted

I was fortunate enough to purchase this as a blind buy... needless to say I am feeling very, very proud of myself right now. Completely warms my heart and soul. Absolutely stunning fragrance. Thank you to the Fragrantica community, I take my hat off to you all!

MartinFord

Has anyone compared this to the current version?
Are they exactly the same?
Does the older version have more rose?

I like the current version, but prefer the older bottle and the price is also better.

Qortni

On my skin, I get an initial glittering burst of florals, and within moments it settles into an expertly balanced oud-rose-labdanum-myrrh.  Opulent and luxurious for sure - not in a heavy way - but in an airy, atmospheric way.  Stately but not stuffy.  Playful yet mature.  Think of swirling dresses while running barefoot through a hedge labyrinth on a bright day.

While the vast majority of votes show people feel this is a fall and winter scent, I consider this too light for winter, but wonderful for spring-summer-fall.

All that said, my husband gets something a bit different than I in the scent profile.  He says it smells leathery-woody on me, and I believe that's the labdanum and oud combo.  But my nose definitely picks up a bouquet of roses, balanced with fresh county air, and enticing oud throughout the journey.

All-in-all, this is a special occasion fragrance -- the best part being the time immediately at and after dry-down.  It projects in wondrous waves, but then retreats, until sadly, by hour 4 it's merely a skin scent on me.  I wish it lasted longer, but alas.  That said, I'd caution not to over-spray - just reapply.

Rose and oud, a marriage made in heaven....sometimes yes, sometimes no.

L’Autre Oud is a marriage made in heaven, i think.
Lancome is not a niche house, still this fragance feels a whole lot like niche, i must say. Somebody knows what he (in this case) is doing.

This is OUD first and foremost. You must know that, before buying. It´s a unforgiving (not skanky, dirty or animalic, but still dominant) OUD and that OUD will stay with you for the whole wearing experience. So, this fragance is very woody and a bit dark.

Then, ROSE, of course, backed up by saffron and herbals. (Clary Sage and Patchouli...) The ROSE is top notch. Dry, not sweet, and not deep, deep, deep. But....perfect.
It´s impossible to stop sniffing my own skin!

A bit masculine? For any gender, as always, but still this will fit a man very nicely, i would say. (It he is over 30...)

When i see all the quality perfumes that this one is compared with (and many of them i am curious of and want to try further down the road), i guess L’Autre Oud fits the bill! This is a jackpot in my collection.

The bottle and the presentation is superb. Well done, Lancome.

On me, it's mostly rose (ashamed to say that it reminds me of one of Stella McCartney's perfumes)

Mr Nosy Parker

Simply put this is just a stunning fragrance that really blows your hair back. They got the accords back the front though on this page. Opulent rich balsamic notes which is quite predominant followed by a superb exotic woodiness. The rose and saffron is really quite beautiful also. Strong sillage too, pretty much nailed it with this one as my first blind buy. Exceptionally good value for money

Texasgirl123

I tend to lean towards unisex fragrances anyway, but THIS! THIS is a masterpiece. I have to admit I was shocked that it came from the house of Lancome, but it is heaven in a bottle. Not for the faint of heart as the sillage and longevity are massive, but I can't stop sniffing it. I don't care for 'light' fragrances so this was right up my alley! Turkish rose, patchouli, saffron oud and guaiac wood mixed to perfection. Definitely a cold weather scent as it's just too heavy for warmer seasons. DO NOT blind buy as this is pricey and if you aren't familiar with the notes, you may hate it. But it is currently sitting at my top spot! Just fabulous!!

Perfumedsecrets

I might've over sprayed this one today. It's potent leather and oud combined with the leathery plum spices of Bottega Venetta Eau de Velours. Massive sillage. I haven't worn it in awhile, but completely forgot how intense it can be. I'm still pleased with this gorgeous bottle.

schmooschmoo

In my opinion, the best unisex frag there is! I have this in the original bottle (very classy) and formulation. I have noticed that it comes in a redesigned bottle. Hopefully the scent itself hasn't been changed as well. Why mess with perfection?!

This is truly a beast mode scent. It's loud and proud and lasts for hours, or days! The raw, woody, burning petroleum top note tinged with the sweetness of rose. Addictive. My favorite scent to wear of all time. Wish Lancome made this stuff in gallon jugs!!!!! Perfect for autumn, but I'd wear it everyday of the year if I could....and just might!!

DT953

This is utterly magical, I cannot describe it any other way. I have the bottle in this image and the bottle is just so well designed. I purchased this because I wanted something with a Majestic Rose mood and I'm so glad I chose this because it's there - but way, way better. The rose in this isn't sweet, the oud isn't overpowering, the warm spices elevate it. I cannot sing this enough praise. For the French rose oud trend's highs and lows, this sits atop as royalty.

richechka

In my modest opinion this is extremely unique fragrance. So sweet, honeyed , sharp red rose I can see on a confident, bright, strong person.
At the beginning, yes, you feel an oud note but in a few hours it transforms to a delicious yummy tastiness compared to a rose jam with herbs and spices.🌹

The strongest, the most long lasting, the most dangerous and mysterious in my collection.
Only for special occasions and the association is : bal-mascarade, new year night, Marocco, festival, red carpet, Turkish delights, red dress, glint vein in a cold cold weather...

Unusual gourmand will not leave anyone careless - true emotions provocateur, smooth operator and the sweetest taboo in a bottle.
One drop and you are done ✅

Good luck and be inspired 💋

I received a really nice sized sample of this from fellow Fragrantica member, Dr. Rosie. I really like it! It could be a a love, but I haven't actually worn it yet. At first spray, it was a bit more floral than I like, but a few minutes later, it turned into this pretty rose, woody scent. I think I want a bottle...

RogerM72

I had come across this many times before I decided to buy it.
This line is sold at a department store downtown Milan, together with many other high end brands.
I have tested it many times and every time had the same outcome: I really love this stuff.
I smell a lot of rose supported by a generous dose of patchouli.
These 2 are prominent on me, taking the scene since the beginning.
Oud stays underneath, it gives off a woody note that makes the overall composition complete and “solid”.
This last adjective renders the idea very well. A Fragrantica member whom I am in touch with used “solid” while speaking of Lancôme in general.
No other word can me more appropriate for this particular perfume.
Longevity is very good, projection as well, without being cloying

cocofluff

I agree with the reviewer below! This perfume is extremely deep and woody. As a lover of synthetic oud, I smell the oud cleary as well as the sage and saffron. This one is definitely for a strong confident person. I love it! It's perfect for a lover of woody and oudy perfumes. I don't get a barn/farm or anything fecal here thank goodness (but I was prepared for it). It smells really good, but not good enough to beat my all time favorite oud fragrances: #1 Fidelis #2 Terryfic Oud L'eau. -

POETICALLY BEAUTIFUL AND SCARY AT THE SAME TIME

Imagine Angelina Jolie in Maleficent, or Daryl Hannah in Kill Bill II. Implacable and gorgeous.

This is so much more interesting than the new version, soooo beautiful until oud rears its ugly head. This is a dragon lady for which I find an occasion no more than 3 times a year, OK add Halloween so: 4. It´s scary and beautiful at the same time, and yet, I love it!

I think this could command Roja Dove prices due to its beauty, quality and longevity. Thus, though this version has been discontinued, I find it a bargain at any price you can get it. My botlle is barely used, and I have just purchased 3 back up bottles. I would have purchased more, but I also own 2 bottles of Amouage Memoir, another scary beauty, so I think I have my bases covered on that segment for years to come.

I doubt you would like this if you like syrupy fruit fragrances, but if you sometimes (3 times a year) wholeheartedly believe yourself to be an intelligent, sexy, take no prisoners demigod, you should give this a try.

gmstrack

L’Autre Oud Eau de Parfum by Lancome makes me think of drinking red wine in a horse barn. The rose is bright and a little jammy—in the same category as the rose found in Portrait of a Lady. The oud is tame and blended with the saffron, which turns into a slightly animalic leather. The leather is very soft and elegant and is supported by sweet hay. The horse did not take a dump, but we can feel her presence. A quiet patchouli note supports both the rose and oud, tying the notes together. Yes, L’Autre Oud is just another (French) rose-oud fragrance, but it’s high quality and nicely blended—it smells expensive, which is pretty cool, considering that a discounted 75 mL bottle can be found for a little less than $100.

Soulfully Yours

I'm so delighted I bought this as it seems to unfold on my skin and gradually transform itself into a warm comforting embrace that feels delicious and leathery. Like wearing your favorite leather boots, sort of secure and sturdy. I also get a distinct smell of pencil shavings. I love the rose in this fragrance. It is exquisite.

A sultry, sexy, confident, inviting, middle eastern traditional feel. Like being embraced by your protective other. I have smelt this a lot before but it still feels unique on me and that's what I like.

I feel like spraying this on again.
It almost draws you into it. A sort of powerful magnet that is mysterious.
However this lasts about 5 hours on my skin. Nothing stays on my skin for long and I'm very happy with this. It has been 17 hours since I sprayed on my dress and its still there!!

Below review must be confused, this is as similar to Montale Intense Cafe as a snail is to an Alligator

gtabasso

yowza/wowzer; there is rose in the top the OUD and some saffron, this is lovely and Middle Eastern all the way; the base is the sweetness of resins (myrrh), saffron, woods and a hint of rose remaining but not a "rose" laden scent.

Dawnfiller

I love this perfume! It is very similar to Mancera Gold Intensive Aoud which is a favorite! It is very soft oud, not pungent or overpowering, and is primarily a woody scent. I don’t have any florals or other notes show up on my skin. I am shocked it lasted over 10 hours on my extremely dry skin in 119 degree heat with no sign of it fading!

Reading reviews for this perfume I am totally baffled at the references to animalic or skanky because on my skin that is not the case. I sprayed this on clothing but that never showed up either on it. I am a big baby if I smell even a hint of animalic I discard the fragrance as unwearable! This perfume will never have that issue for me I love it!

Scent projection is mild with people close to you noticing it. No overpowering others I wore it in close quarters with no complaints. You will smell this perfume on your skin for a very long time! I highly recommend trying a sample if you love oud fragrances. I blind bought this and fell in love at first sniff!

komz

It is mostly Oud mixed with rose, however the oud is a skunky very animalic one, it smells much better when it settles down after a few hours but still retains the skunkiness, a polarizing scent imo, I am more of a fan of calmer and woodsier Ouds than animalic ones but it's a matter of taste after all.

hyu80

I got mostly rose and patchouli. The rose here is not too sweet, very gentle and smooth, get along with the patchouli well. It's strong and sharp at first, but calmer after about an hour, and will last at least 12 hours.

Seemi

The initial blast of L'autre Oud is a bit harsh and for some rather eye watering. I would suggest give this some time to rest on your skin, then the magic will transport you. It's a beautiful leathery smoky warm spicy oud with a delicious rose. I spritz twice around my neck and décolletage and that's it, throughout the day or night I get delicious wafts of this. Less is definitely more with this fragrance as you will definitely choke people out that are around you. Excellent quality if you can get your hands on a sample I urge you to try it.

myusername

Disgusting... the dry down is loaded with that extremely dry synthetic note they're trying to pass for oud (Norlimbanol maybe?) Avoid at all costs.

sarabx5

I have tried this one, it's a very dry oud.

The bottle design shows that, in first degree, it was made for the Arabian market.

Smells exactly like Juliette has a Gun "Another Oud" (what a coincidence with the name :), with more performance and double price.

minaminamina

I love it. Balsamic in the first place, bit of rose & leather. A dash of oud actually. I have plenty of oud and this is a very shy, tamed oud. It is more guaiac.

No sweetness, dry & very clean. Opulent and distinct. After this Maison de Lancome came out with Oud Bouquet, this is completly different thou. Oud Bouquet is sweet and floral oud with quite a bit of smoke. I have it and enjoy it, but it's a bit wild and rebellious. This on the other hand is very chic. Very powerfull.

Longevity is super long. Silage is moderate, but steady. Don't expect to get it off by taking a shower...I scrubbed generously and could still smell it clearly afterwards.

At this point I have besides this one and Oud Bouquet from the previous editions also Tuberose Castagne from the latest line and I have to say that they all perform excellently.

If balsamic fragrances are your thing and you enjoy rose & wood this is worth hunting down. It is very dry indeed.

EDIT: This has climbed the ladder and has become one of my all time favorites. It has an almost medicinal quality I remember from the original Midnight Poison. Resinous & balsamic on a bed of patchouli and roses.
Longevity is really great, but silage could have been heavier for my liking.

Annabear

When I first bought this and sampled it, I thought...hmmm a bit too leathery and unisex for me, not sure about this. I am a sucker for the full on florals, but I dislike screeching sweet fragrances, which this definitely isn't, so I thought I would give this a little time so I could get used to it.
In the last four or five months, I have worn in sporadically, and the result is that my sister has so completely fallen in love with it, that she became almost obsessive about finding it...in Sydney, it's more than triple the price I paid for it online, but she's patient. I am not surprised it's out of stock from my favourite online seller...a guy and a girl both in my work team have purchased this in the last few weeks and are wearing it daily. I don't know how you can give a better recommendation than have three people wanting to buy a fragrance you may have worn once or twice.
Onto the actual juice. It's deep and sensual - not like Montale Dark Oud which is 100% leather, this is a fresh Oud if that makes any sense, it still has the floral element along with the smoke, wood and resins. Personally, not one I would wear in summer during the day, I think this is for winter, evenings or bed time...on me that is.
Longevity is outstanding, 12 hours is not unheard of, which makes it a bit annoying if you want to switch to something else, but I am NOT complaining! I would rather have a long lasting deep fragrance than a flirty will of the wisp that's gone in 15 minutes.

ken.z008

I love how beautiful the composition of this perfume has. The oud, rose, and saffron (leathery aroma) blend beautifully well and evoke memories of something luxurious and classy. The oud note lends a smoky-incensy vibe evident in the beginning. The saffron reenforces oud and rose and lends a crisp leather scent. The rose is fresh, clean, and natural smelling with tartness that blends well with oud and saffron. It stays clear and crisp all throughout its development.

I agree the people who said it smells like an interior of a high-end leather makeup bag; has a TF Tuscan Leather vibe; and yes it is very French! To me, the smell is very addicting and comforting that I wanna smell it all the time! It never gave me any initial irritation/headache as the materials used were of high quality, which were beautifully blended. There is nothing dirty or animalic in the composition.

It lasts for at least 8 hours on my skin, projects moderate to strong, and can be worn throughout the year.

arwenamin983

I bought this online and it came in today. This is an oriental smell but in a clearly French interpretation. It's organic and unisex in the way of oriental fragrances but lacks their loudness, being instead subtle. I guess I can feel the rose and oud but for my nose they combine into the smell of soft camel leather saddle bag that sat in an incense shop in Marrakech for too long. The scent is oily, smooth, and suggestive of myrrh. The top notes have a boozy impression that turns into this organic smell which holds to the end.
The bottle is an incredible artwork. It's built from glass with a precious, soft golden overlay depicting an oriental palace with open front doors. It comes wrapped in a white satchel with a nice texture and silk underlay. The box is white, beautifully patterned with the same golden leaf that's on the bottle, and has a vertical lid.

erkek

Really Arabic nuances.. Much more intensive woman scent about this. A lot of bit it resembles Tuscan Leather (if forced)
If I must say one phrase ''a little bit creamy, intensive leather''

It smells like rose and formaldehyde in the initial blast but dries down to a subtle rose and oud mix with some spices thrown in. This is somewhat of a more mature fragrance, I'm thinking a woman in her late 30s through late 40s would be able to wear this. I'm not quite there yet and feel intimidated by wearing it but I do enjoy it.

freddinos

Can't believe I judged L'autre oud too soon almost without a second chance. Because this is my rose and oud, as Gigi the fashionista also says a few reviews further down. It starts dry, the oud here is a bit animalic, blended with labdanum. The rose then is added, and it's such an elegant one, red rose with hints of fresh pink petals too, makes me think of French-arabian cultural crossroads and of the world before the east and west were divided by bombs over manmade ideas, rather of beautiful fusions of the best of both worlds.
L'autre oud is a rose and oud that has appealed to me, because I feel it does combine the best of French perfumery with the beauty of eastern style. It perhaps leans feminine, and it has a melancholy in its aura.
Having finally tried Rose d'Arabie, Oud Palao, Miroir des Majestes and Oud Ispahan, I personally prefer it over them all

ANNAFRYS

I definetly love it! I am addicted of saffron so anything with in ! Love design and how its smells definitly not for everyone....

Fragrance Review For L'Autre Oud By Lancôme

Top Notes: Saffron Nagarmotha Labdanum Clary Sage

Middle Notes Oud Agarwood Bulgarian Rose Turkish Rose

Base Notes: Agarwood Oud Guaiac Wood Patchouli Vetiver Oak Moss Balsam Myrrh Amyris

I'm usually such a serious academic sober reviewer no all caps but WOW O MY GOD WOW THIS IS F* AMAZING. I have worn a lot of ouds and even wear authentic Arabic attar perfume oils with real oud but this enchanting Oriental oud is to die for!! I don't care who dislikes it or why. This is my Oud. This is my Holy Grail of Oud. Forget Black Oud by Kilian and even Oud Majesteux by Thierry Mugler even though I love those oud scents. This oud blows the rest out of the water. This is pretty powerful stuff so apply with a light touch and be warned. This is an Oriental dragon oud. It comes off as very unisex and has both a male and female personality and character. There is enough ying and yang in it to satisfy both sexes and to satisfy the anima/animus (inner male inner female) in all of us. This is an epic rose and oud combination. There's saffron another Oriental flowery smell I love and two notes of rose: Turkish rose and Bulgarian rose, the latter being very feminine. Roses but not the kind of roses you've worn in Tea Rose or Stella McCartney. This is an aromatic Oriental rose dipped in balsam and myrrh from the East. It's totally a Middle Eastern scent, something that wafts into the air out of oud shops in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in Cairo Egypt and in Mumbai India. It's got incense in the form of myrrh, a fragrant incense not too smoky mostly hot. It's oily, it's resinous, it's an attar but with the Lancôme Western perfumery touch. It smells luxurious, expensive, sexy, seductive, masculine, feminine, savage, and soft. This is the perfume that I could wear over and over again and make it my signature but Arpege still holds that position for a personal reason. This is nonetheless a fantastic out of this world oud. If you like oud you gotta try this. Moves me to tears. I didn't know the folks/noses at Lancôme famous for Western gourmand galore La Vie Est Belle La Nuit Tresor and Poeme were even capable of creating an oud fragrance. This is very realistic to actual Arabic attars and ouds so whoever created this scent did their homework and went out to experiment with actual oud scents. This is awesome.

Houdini4

I've been waiting ages to try this and that anticipation has turned to disappointment upon trying. Is Lancôme Autre Oud a very opulent and nice smelling dark woody, Oud rose with earthy hints of saffron, patchouli and smooth resins??? Well yes it is...and by far not the worst I've tried in fact it's quite lovely but nothing to set it apart by the same rule. I had kinda hoped it was more like Rose d'arabie or Xerjoff's 'more than words' and then I would've definitely purchased as the amazing flacon tipped me over the edge.
High quality, lasts forever and smells really good but this sort of fragrance has to have the most minor of tweaks, that lightness of touch to elevate it and make it world class. Thinking in cookery terms that next level from an already superior dish to something 2-3 mitchelin star level. I had expected that from this hearing all the positive reviews and in my humble opinion it doesn't deliver making it just another Oud rose if not a very lovely one.

ANNAFRYS

I love it.

Upon first sniff, I was immediately transported into a stable with horses - not into a barn smelling of manure kind, but into the room where the saddles are stored. It is much sweeter, floral, fresher than that, of course - but it still evokes horses and the leatherware that goes with horseback riding. When identifying the notes, I can smell oud very distinctly and strongly - but somehow, the whole of it still makes me think of leather. It's excellent, very expensive smelling, and has enormous silage and longevity.

A sweet smell of rose & saffron.

The oud is barely there in this sweet mix of flowers.

Sweet & floral = feminine.

This is not suitable for men. I knew it & females who smelled it on me even asked if the fragrance I'm wearing is originally for women.

If this is Lancome's interpretation of oud, then they have failed.

Who am I to judge? I'm from the Middle East where the undeniable #1 most used & praised note is oud, whether it's the wood (incense), the oil, or the EDTs/EDPs.

Honestly, & harshly, this is a failure of an oud fragrance & it is not worth its price.

The positives are, though:
- Excellent sillage.
- Excellent longevity.
- If you are in Europe or North America, this is probably a unique smell to wear there.

One of the best Rose/Oud scents and I own several. Not to sweet and does not have a intense rose smell which can make it more on the Fem side. The is totally a unisex scent. At first I got pure oud but, the dry down is when the sweet rose peaks out. Worth the money.

one word "AMAZING!!!". It smells like an expensive leather purse/wallet. It's worth every penny. This works for both guys and girls.

Best Rose + Aoud combination.

Thank you, blueviolet! I have been eyeballing this for awhile now & once I decided I was going to get it, I had to hunt it down! Not an easy fragrance to find, bergdorf goodman in New York carries it, if anyone is trying to get it! Call it in, it is not on there website!

Update: Do not try to purchase it from Bergdorf Goodman!! It took 4 calls & a month later, to find out my order was on back order, how hard is it to call someone to let them know this? So, I was able to purchase it from Neiman Marcus, I really like them! They have never let me down, always polite & always willing to help!

Bubbles, nah don't worry, it is gorgeous. Deep rose scent, smooth saffron/oud and lovely drydown. Strong but not overpowering. I think you will like it!

I just blind bought this perfume!! Am I crazy? At $175 a bottle! It better be as good as it sounds, I can't wait to get it! A little birthday present to myself :)

This is super beautiful. God knows I want it but I cant justify the price tag right now. Anyone knows a good place in Europe to get it a bit cheaper than high street?

Such an exciting smell!
The name fits it perfectly, it really is a different Oud! Somehow Lancome have managed to balance the typical Oudy cloying sweetness with a powdery smoky undertone. So to me it smells like "burning out"..Miraculously, it manages to smell rather softly. Thos, who tried Oud would know that being fresh is not one of it's qualities.
A gread woody spicy oriental fragrance without being overpowering or "too middle eastern"..Love it

Well, got it after all. This is most elegant agar wood fragrance I've ever used before.
Well balanced, close and intimate to owner, extremely elegant and expensive. Absolutely French (done not in arabic way at all).
Masterpiece. 10/10

Sprayed this on my wrist about 4 hours ago and was immediately hit by the acridity of the Oud. If I were on the underground and someone next to me was wearing it, then I would probably have to move away as the top notes packed a real punch to the middle of my nose. For me it is as overpowering as the smell you get when passing an Arabian perfumery. The rose is also very noticeable (and lovely) at the opening and middle and although extremely strong (to my nose) this is and addictive scent and one that I have been sniffing regularly since first spray. On the dry down the rose all but disappears leaving an extremely strong woody animalic oud. I don't think I would buy it but I don't totally dislike it. I think it is more suitable for a man than a woman and it is extremely strong smelling. For me it is the Oud d equivalent of Black Afgano - a scent to be worn very sparingly.
