This is really phenomenal and a shame that because it’s not sold stateside, resellers charge $200-$500 for something that cost $10 per liter! I purchased a 30ml for $45 (overpayed but still a reasonable price) Funny enough smelling it in the bottle I did smell apple juice!! Warming in the skin it did remind me of a sweeter and less floral Spirituous double Vanille. The Angelica was very prominent on my skin in the dry down. Mixed with the vanilla planifolia, it’s smells a lot like Angelique noire!!
Projection is average/above average and longevity is average. Definitely getting a larger bottle.

angelaskoog

I found one on a ebay kind of site here in Sweden.
When it came, i thought, it just smells like diluted apple juice, not bad,,but light. Now after one month..oh man ! The colour has changed, and the smell also ! It's a fantastic scent! Rich, warm, cozy ..I never ever want to be without this again...
Because it is discontinued, I thought that it would be hard to find a backup bottle...but I got lucky, the backup bottle is on its way home and I'm so happy

MoreScentsThanDollars

I have had four times purchased this cologne, assuming I must be getting duds, but each time it's so weak I get rid of it.
I have the Mercedes black and it's heaps better.
Well put it this way, I'd not ever part with my Mercedes black and purchased back ups but I handballed all the cologne of the missions.
So basically it's individual taste but for me, I like to be able to smell my perfume loud and clear for many hours, not have to sniff directly to the skin to see if it's there after an hour.

Stinky whiskey Buttons

To answer the Questions below, Yes its been discontinued, and comparing it to Club black is a great insult, this is one off the best vanilla/warm/Boozt perfumes you can buy, Yes its even better then Angels share, but the price you pay is it dosent last more then 4-5 hours. But alas its gone from the market now except shady import and secondhand markets that wants its weight in gold

FirstSense

I made a review about this masterpiece gem. I only want to say that this one develops so beautiful in the bottle after two years.Just amazing. No alcohol start but a bit boozy smokey siropy opening that dries down in a gorgeous vanilla with resins and a touch of a delicious green herbal tea. I thank the heavens I bought two backup bottles.

ANGELICA07

Please can someone tell us if this cologne has been discontinued ?

Honeysuckle-dream

I have half a bottle that I bought from Ulta (?) at least 6-10 years ago. It was hidden in a storage unit for 3 years and I rediscovered it. I like it. It's a unisex, balsamic vanilla. I haven't smelled Spiritueuse Double Vanille yet and it's a little pricey for me. Yves Rocher doesn't sell Nuit Vanille or else I'd buy it. The scent gets richer after 15-30 minutes but it's not too strong. It's not a sweet vanilla.
Edited. I recently smelled Vanilla Woods by 7 Virtues and it is very similar.

blkleather_redlace

Why is this so hard to find? Jfc stop discontinuing good stuff. I'm not paying 10x the original price just because someone who got it for almost nothing wants to be an a**hole.

Jernê Knowles

For more than 10 years I have known and owned the brilliant Cologne of the Missions by Le Couvent des Minimes, and every time I remember that it exists, my heart rejoices in noble feelings that, in dialogue with each other, immediately refer to the exceptional Vanilla bean that I call of your magnanimous backbone!

How can the output of a fragrance refer to the interior of a classic French kitchen, where pâtisserie instruments gave rise to a cream cake and it is just coming out of the oven, exhaling an unmistakable aroma of well-baked dough and a slightly sweetened comforting background, with citrus that I balance the interim.

The fragrance grows and becomes greenish, with lively floral touches, a plant freshly picked from the earth, with the aroma of the earth still attached to the rhizomes of its roots, yes, it is the Camellias here with their silkiness, transparency and ability to light up the spaces. which it penetrates with its perfume that, while being subtle, becomes permanent and unforgettable.

I believe that the resinousness that the base brings in the farewell, due to Myrrh and Benjoin, make Eau des Missions lose the exaggerated hyper gourmand characteristic that Vanilla could dare to refer, the fragrance becomes juicy, interesting, adult and owner of a gigantic draws compliments even from those who don't identify with the sweetest fragrances. That perfect sweet, not exaggerated, adult, unique and lasting, you can find it here!

gokcekurt

OMG this is love. I never wanna not have this. After smelling this, I changed my mind about buying a bottle for 315 euros of SDV of Guerlain. This is good enough vanilla for everyone. Just wow. And yes, it smells a bit like cheirosa 40 but this is more powdery while the other is fruity. This is fucking SEXY. And the price point? It's a steal! If you like vanilla, this is a safe blind buy. For ones in Germany, you can find it on Amazon.

DYNABLASTER77

Great warm vanilla with tobacco, has cookies quality, perfect for cozy winter days, I can't imagine a better smell of this kind, best price performance ever!

Awesomewawyer

My signature scent. I found out about it as a cheap dupe for Guerlain SDV but I love it so much more (now I find the smokiness of SDV off-putting) . Natural, warm, balsamic, herbal vanilla with no feel of the perfume counter or a big brand. It feels perfectly unisex, comforting and confident. Most of the people around me don't wear perfume so I don't want to attack them with my scent - I'd prefer them to gradually come to recognise it. The projection is just fine, I can get longevity if I apply it right and it just makes me happy. I'm writing to Le couvent to beg them to bring it back.

Nix_Nosy6

You know, there are so so many vanilla perfumes out there. It feels like I’ve tried them all. This one is still my touchstone, The Vanilla, to which all others are compared, even when I make an effort NOT to do that. It was the first time I found a vanilla that wasn’t sickly sweet, candy-like, or synthetic. It wasn’t someone’s chemical memory of what they thought vanilla smelled like on women who wanted to smell like vanilla. Have you ever purchased vanilla pods from the spice aisle at the grocery store? Better yet, have you been lucky enough to smell pods as they grow on the orchid? They’re sticky and resinous, balsamic. EDM has this boozy current that runs throughout, like really good rum, which I 100% attribute to the positively MAGICAL combination of benzoin, myrhh, and green tea. Green tea!!!! It sits at the bottom and gives the vanilla and myrhh the absolute perfect weight without letting it get too heavy, like, say, tobacco, would. The effervescence of benzoin keeps it spicy and fuzzy. I love SDV, it is a masterpiece, and I know many people compare the two. While similiar, the MOODS of each are opposing ends of the spectrum. When I’m feeling warmly-feminine-sexy- romantic, give me SDV. It’s your safe word, your longtime boyfriend who would never, ever hurt you. But EDM - he’s the super hot, scary in all the right ways and probably too young for you but fuck it, we all know this is a one or two or if he’s lucky, three-time-deal dude you picked up on a sketchy chat board. Oh yes, friends. When I want to feel like a sexy power cat, this is the one I reach for. Hands down. Not to mention, when it was in stores, you could buy it for $22! She’s a cheap date, but she smells expensive.

lmnsvgz

No other vanilla fragrance compares to this. So intoxicating, warm, smooth. Vanilla extract on another level. The initial spray is a bit alcoholic, but after that is turns into one of the most beautiful simple vanilla scents I have smelled. It doesn't need other notes, it doesn't need decoration. Magic in a bottle.

Desperately looking for a bottle within the EU.

karbada

I have a 250ml sealed bottle for sale within the EU. PM for more info :)

ckorp8

On the very first spray I got a quick dejavu of opening a can of A&W root beer with its sweet sugary caramelized vanilla scent… Then everything was gone in a flash. Can smell anything else from the bottle afterwards, on skin or clothing. Will comeback later to try it again.

Well the scent did show up later, beautiful vanilla, and stayed for well over fifteen hrs.

scentine

This is anything but a pure, basic, simple vanilla. It's vanillic, yes, but that's the extent of it. The cedar and tea are very prominent right from the start. It gives it a bit of a boozy feel like as if there was a hint of scotch in it, but in a way that makes the composition come across as slightly sour. Myrrh also has that effect sometimes. It's interesting and definitely unisex, but if you're looking for a neutral vanilla scent that's good for layering, this probably isn't it.

Zethre

Very nice pure vanilla. Not too sweet, but it does have a little sweetness. Vaguely reminiscent of Spiritueous Double Vanille, though perhaps a little less strong. But then you get 250ml in the bottle for a fifth of the price of Spirituous Double Vanille, so you can afford to overspray, but you will need to because it lasts about 15 minutes.
Dua's Alexandra Short is similar but stronger

Ty/dc

I highly recommend this one If you enjoy high quality vanillic fragrances that don’t get cloying or lean too feminine.

Although it is a vanilla centric fragrance, it is NOT a basic vanilla or a “layering” scent as some have suggested lol. It’s so much more complex, just look at the notes Myrrh, Benzoin, Virginian Cedar, Centella Asiatica, Green Tea Flower, they all come together to create this beautiful scent.

I picked up my 250ml bottle (before it’s discontinuation) for £12 🤯! Which makes no sense how or why they’d sell it at such a low price, it couldn’t have been economically viable.

Benjamin From Sacramento

Looking to trade. I have many bottles of this. It's also completely fantastic

Cherry_Darling

Really feeling the tea flowers In here. Thought it may be a soft Jasmine but agree on the tea esque feel. Lovely scent, warm resinous vanilla and soft tea flowers. very fair price too.

200 samples UK - check my customs let's swap!

AK2

Nice layering vanilla, not really as complex and smooth as sdv but it is a great alternative. you can’t go wrong for the price.

Atraideur

Smells Good but too feminie for me.

Stinky whiskey Buttons

This is heaven, i got this and killians Angels share at the same time, this simple cologne made me forget all about Angels share, this opens boozy and goes into warm vanilla, and Its a pure plesure so natural and for a cologne it smelld and smelld for hours, not a Great projection but this dose not need it.. Its for me.. And for me alone ❤️

CertifiedMoxie

Perhaps my memory isn’t serving me, but I wouldn’t liken this to Doubld Vanille. I find Doubke Vanille pulls a touch more mature, and I don’t remember Doubke Vanille having a Coca Cola note, which I definitely sense on my skin, and I’m not mad about it! I considered getting Paris L.A. by Lab on Fire for this very note, but I just wasn’t jiving with the other notes present. Here I get vanilla Coca Cola, and I’ll take it!

Ksj_

Mercedes club black? Is that you?

Looking for a bottle in the US!!

LuluSaintly

My favourite vanilla fragrance. It's a very clean, true vanilla that smells like real vanilla pods, with that slightly elusive air they have. The top is boozy, like bay rum, but soon fades to a clear, light vanilla, and for a cologne, it's actually very long-lasting. I tend to have a problem with vanilla fragrances, which for me often veer horribly close to a moth-killer (now banned) named Doom. No such problem with this one. It was available at my discount store for 9.99 euros per 250ml and when I realised I'd already used 1.5 litres of it, I bought seven backup bottles.

hayleilei

caramel sweet vanilla with something sour and a bit green that lingers. to me, this doesn't smell like a super luxurious fragrance, but it does smell like a really, really good quality vanilla body spray, and would make a fantastic gift for a vanilla lover if it was more readily available. i'm glad i didn't go crazy hunting for a full bottle though. also reminds me of Jeroboam Insulo, with that almost toffee syrup vibe.

Misscafreen

Got it for xmas! honestly this is the most beautiful vanilla ever 🥰 so smooth, sweet but not too sweet I see the similarity with sdv but I prefer this one doesn’t project much though, last 5/6 hours on my skin, I’m happy I have it ☺️

shokravee

boozy vanilla but masterfully created so! u don't need any other boozy vanillas, this is that good. On the dry down it is very much like guerlain SDV, but not identical; this is less pungent and less creamy, more vanilla and a bit sweeter. Lasts much better than i was expecting! it's a very edible vanilla, if u have ever worked with cooking vanilla this is a boozy version of that. Shame that it's not readily available. To me it's worth hundreds. Such a beautiful masterpiece, hats off.

wolfalice

This fragrance is absolutely delicious! It's beautifully comforting, and very sweet but not sickly; the kind of scent I'd like to just sink into. And it's the perfect time of year for its warming magic. It lasts wonderfully without being overwhelming - I wear it most days as it works well with casual wear and sits very close to the skin, though still surrounding you in a warm, sweet bubble. I find it gets complimented more often than anything else I wear too. I'm hoarding my precious bottle and hoping I never run out until this beauty comes back (which it absolutely should, or else I shall have to write a strongly worded letter).

bdragonfly12345

Where are you all finding this? I have been looking for years now, but with no luck (in Canada).

I think it sounds amazing, and would love to give it a smell! 😊

DarlingLovely

Lasts decently on me, also it does become more of a skin scent after a while. It's mainly a lovely, cozy, but non-gourmandy vanilla.

zind

This smells so natural that it almost doesn't smell like a perfume. Very soft and adult vanilla, and that myrrh and benzoin that makes it extra cozy and warm. I don't reach for it very often and I'm afraid that this degree of natural ingredients won't last forever, it will probably go bad at some point and it is sad that such a good one would be discontinued. Hopefully the brand will release a edp that is similar or the same, something that is not very unlikely sseing that they seem to be doing quite well with their recent releases? 🤞

Le Couvent has some other vanilla centered scents that are great and absolutely worth checking out, namely Nubica and Tinharé

Arshia16

I’m decanting 100ml and 50ml bottles of this. Send me a pm if your looking for this. I have a giant 500ml bottle

CallMeT__

On me it’s similar to WANT by DSQUARED2 if it was watered down. Very warm, cosy vanilla with some woods in the background. Very poor performance on me, it was gone in about 30 minutes which is disappointing. Scent isn’t very remarkable but I can see how it is appealing to vanilla lovers. Maybe better as a layering scent. There are better vanillas out there, even in body mist format. It’s a pass for me.

EDIT: It REALLY does smell like Spiriteuse Double Vanille.

fanntonyoscar

On me, this smells exactly like Vanilla Woods by The 7 Virtues. They both have a cedar thing going on that reminds me of a hamster cage… there’s more of “that” than vanilla. It’s not worth the hassle of hunting it down in the US for that reason, and also because it literally disappears after about 15 minutes max.

Advaitaforever

Haagen Daz vanilla ice cream. A delicious, lactonic vanilla that has a maternal comfort you could just sink into. However the performance is absolutely terrible. It has no projection whatsoever and very poor longevity. I still enjoy it as a bedtime scent as it’s very soothing and the vanilla is pretty high quality and seemingly pure with a subtle benzoin-esque enhancement. It’s very gourmand in nature and and it’s a good option as a layering scent to play up the vanilla in other fragrances e.g. hypnotic poison, la belle.

FirstSense

So now and then I discover a gem of a perfume by endless scrolling on some big webshops. This discovery blows my mind. What a wonderful cologne this is. The boozy but surprisingly fresh vanilla start that after a small hour develops into a calming smokey gentle vanilla is uplifting and invigorating. The scent is rich and rather complex and very natural. No sticky sweetness but a subtle comforting vanilla scent. This is such a great concept. The packaging is oldfashioned typical French but beautiful. And this cologne is made with only plant based ingredients with no paraben and other toxic ingrediënts. The smokey smell in the final drydown gives this cologne a typical Mediterranean artisan feel. And I’m glad it doesn’t scream. The performance is modest in a very nice way. I close my eyes and I am in the Haute Provence walking those lovely small streets. If this gem is going to get discontinued it would be a shame. So I probably will order a stash.
Edit: 2-10-21: It is discontinued to my knowledge and what I read. Fortunately I could order 2 more bottles that I wil cherish.

bleuu

meditation calmness of mind

such a gorgeous churchy vanilla with spice and slight booze.
an absolute shame they discontinued it.

sawadeecara

A well-blended vanilla gourmand fragrance! I've never smelled anything like this before. I agree with the last review below me that it does have a toffee note. This fragrance is so warm, comforting, and at the same time intoxicating. The lasting power on this is good but lacks a bit of sillage, which doesn't bother me that much.

middle25

My first vanilla love - I had never smelled anything quite like it at the time so it was a unique fragrance. I can't pick out notes other than vanilla and benzoin here, assuming it is because it's so well-crafted. Nowadays there are other perfumes that have the same type extract vanilla scent - Mercedes Club Black and Midnight Shimmer, for example, but I still turn to this one when I desire that comfortable, sweet smell.

Ayshearbrtsn

A beautiful boozy vanilla, mouth watering but not cake-baking-ly if that even makes sense! And not juvenile, this is a grown ass man/woman scent. The warmth of the vanilla is balanced by the almost herby notes - I have fallen hard for this one - it’s almost up there with SDV. Longevity is poor on me however, with minimal sillage. Lasts better on clothes. I might have to stock up on this one nonetheless - at the price I can be trigger-happy! If you’re looking for an elegant grown up vanilla this is definitely worth a try.

Amy Ann

In general, it really smells like a green vanilla like Must de Cartier Gold type, but on my skin is pure rum. And I think that was their intention because of "Cologne of the Missions" name, drinking fountain water could be missing from European vessels, the naval companies considered that they had enough water in the sea, what matter that was not drinkable but the rum, the low quality liqueur, or the "national" drinks of each country were never forgotten. The perfume has a really vanilla opening on me too, but in a few minutes it becomes alcoholic rum, if I stay in the sun for a long time and my skin is heated above normal, it gets a hint of green Sugarcane willow that I don't like but in general it is an interesting perfume that I choose to wear when I go to the mountains in spring and summer on vacation. My husband loves rum so he normally likes it when it smells like that, but otherwise I can't say this is a perfume that will attract attention if it that is what you want, I personally don't, I wear perfume for myself and my outfit not for others. But there was a time when this perfume was extremely in the spotlight, a few years ago I was on vacation with a dear friend of mine in her beautiful Romania in the mountainous area of the Bucegi Mountains ( I hope I wrote it correct 🤭), there this thing made a sensation debut because every Romanian I met, and logically there were many 😂, asks me what perfume that is because it smells like their national Rom chocolate, a little girl who stayed at the same hotel like us with her family came in the restaurant while dinner was being served and told me in English: "madam smell yummy" I die laughing. Well if you want to charm a Romanian consider this perfume. Caution: I don't take the responsibility for my advice if that Romanian hates Rom chocolate and runs away from you.

who.am.i.you

It's a complete shame that this isn't in production anymore. I held off using my sample for a while because I didn't want to lose the fragrance forever. It is an herbal vanilla that is insanely addictive, and is actually quite long-lasting, but not in a loud way. It sticks to my clothes & hair for forever and morphs through different phases. Sometimes it smells cakey, and others more green, but it never really comes off as a true gourmand. It is absolutely delicious in a soulful way! The perfume scent for bed, for everyday application as it's casual and carefree, and for layering under or over other scents. I totally shouldn't have splurged on buying a used bottle of this, but I just did and will savor it. This is similar to Molinard Vanille Marine in the unisex vanilla sort of way with some aromatic undertones. I totally can see bits of Michael Kors Midnight Shimmer and Al-Rehab Golden Sand as well, but they come off more foodie and caramel to me for some reason. This is very beautiful and am happy to welcome a 3.4 oz bottle to my collection. I've always been drawn to vanilla (I remember being enamored with Vanilla Lace as my favorite scent out of the lot of hoarded Victoria's Secret scents that I grabbed on sale...not much has changed).

Resinous, green, woody, bourbon-esque, vanilla extract sort of vanilla. Gorgeous. I almost feel guilty leaving reviews on discontinued fragrances, but you never know what you'll find. I also decided to randomize my entire list of scents (full bottles, samples, solids, oils, minis, etc) to wear day-by-day and to review each day, so there's that. It's kind of dangerous because I'm sampling many of the samples that I've kept hoarded for a reason (because of the scent being discontinued and/or expensive). Bye money :)

Bubbles1964

I missed the boat on this discontinued perfume, but at least now I know what all the hoopla is about. Cologne of the Missions by Le Couvent Maison is an inviting dip into the vanilla pool scent. Relaxing and versatile, I can imagine layering it or going solo. It’s not too sweet, a fairly natural interpretation.

But at the current, limited and hard to find off-market prices at $255 for a bottle, I’ll be standing on the dock, envious of all the people who sailed away with this when it was $10 a bottle.

Damn, I don’t like falling for a scent that is no longer available.

frenchie1

I haven't smelled these side by side but my first impression was that this was quite similar to Perlier's Caribbean Vanilla. The synthetic / artificial smell of the vanilla doesn't do anything for me. Not a quality vanilla in my opinion.

BlackEyedBG

Lovely. I completely agree with the excellent review by the Fragrance Apprentice "The Best Vanilla ever?..." on youtube watch?v=mblkG-BYtmo It is not just a great review but a little piece of visual art as well. Unfortunately it seems to have been discontinued. Luckily I bought 2 backup bottles. Another great vanilla fragrance is Mercedes-Benz Club Black. @Ralphangel, you forgot the fourth and most important P, ie Parfum/scent which is 9/10.

Ralphangel

What a beautiful fragrance! Chocolate, Vanilla, amber, and powdery, what is there not to like. I just wish it was an E.D.P. or E.D.T. instead of cologne, what could they have been thinking! Unfortunately, it's just a skin scent, but I love the scent so much, and given the very low price point, I don't mind re-spraying all through the day. I also love this as a bed scent as is so soft, powdery and a beautiful gourmand fragrance.

My 3 P's
- Projection 4/10
- Performance 5/10
- Price 9/10

Lalunalynn

This is warm and sweet, really reminds me of the tobacco that my high school teacher smoked in his pipe, that sweet tabacco used to waft through the corridor the closer you got to his classroom. It really did smell just like this. Its a clone of SDV, but more intense on the tobacco. I wouldn't say it's overly gourmand.
I like it but it isn't a love.

[Cologne of the Missions]
⚫️⚫️⚪️⚪️⚪️

A once very inexpensive vanilla centric fragrance that garnered a fair bit of attention with a few British YouTubers. I purchased two 250ml bottles for around £10.99 each in 2018.

Although the perfume is cologne concentration, the fragrance does remain present on the skin for a good 6 hours on me due to the heavier materials used. It isn’t a very complicated formula to my nose. I get a eugenol, ethyl maltol and ethyl vanillin more than likely supported by iso e super. There could be some Benzoin in here to add dimension which would also explain the colour of the juice.

It’s a lovely vanilla but it’s clear the budget really limited the end product and instead we get a hollow rendition of what could have been a fantastic perfume.

As I wrap up this review, I am aware that I’m waffling on about ingredients, dimensions and execution when at the end of the day I paid £11 for a decent vanilla perfume and I can’t say I’m unhappy with it. I don’t think this was ever easy to obtain in the US but I don’t believe it’s being sold anywhere in Europe anymore either so I apologise for wasting your time.

sorelena1

The thing about this perfume is that depending on the batch u smell the quality varies. So, I smelled it from 3 different bottles. The 1st bottle was smelling 100% like Spiritueuse Double Vanille...it had that boozy quality also...it was fantastic. For those who fight about this smelling or not smelling like SDV, I'm telling u that if you are lucky and get the right bottle it will smell 100% like it.The other two bottles were smelling still very nice for a vanilla but lacking the strong resemblance to SDV.
Still, for the price it is a very nice and realistic vanilla ( i usually find vanilla in perfumes boring, but this is a good Vanilla).

nativelocal

This smells like warm and sweet vanilla extract and woods on my skin and it's beautiful. I think it might be kind of hard to get your hands on if you're in the states, but if you're missing it then I'd highly recommend The 7 Virtues' Vanilla Woods as the two are very close IMO.

hewpo

@Yzabell Le Parfum is not same as Eau de Parfum, if you meant that by misleading. But granted, I too like the old name better. 👍

Elley27

Warm, cozy, sweet, vanilla scent. Beautiful!
I love this fragrance so much, I can wear it all year round and still it smells amazing.
Sits close to the skin but lasts all day on me. It is light but has quite a bit of depth and it is very well blended.

On my skin, Cologne of the Missions is the closest dupe for SDV. SDV actually doesn't last as long as this one so I wear Cologne of the Missions more often. But I encourage you to try it if you can get your hands on it. You never know how something might smell on you :)

I will forever love boozy vanillas that make you feel warm and sensual and this one will be with me for many years I think.

Starlightus

It's weak, it doesn't last very long for me. However, I do like vanilla and I like that it's cruelty free.

'HI, YOU THERE!'
'Who me?'
'YES YOU. YOU POINTING TO YOURSELF MOUTHING THE WORDS, "WHO ME?" '
'What do you want?'
'COME HERE SO THAT I DON'T HAVE TO SHO oh, that's better. I want to know where that smell of toffee is coming from'. 'My word, it seems to be coming from you!' 'How so, pray sir, tell me how so?'
'I'll tell you, but it aint toffee, it's caramel. You see I'm wearing Cologne Of The Missions Le Couvent Maison. It smells. Of caramel. Or toffee.'

Is this a review or is it a fudge?

Maybe I should tell you of its moderate sillage and longevity - but that could be because my bottle is the massage oil version. Maybe I could tell you that it smells just like Al Rehab Golden Sand (only slightly sweeter).

Look, all you need to know is that it's lovely and smells like toffee. Caramel. Fudge.

ekowala7

This is a sweet, syrupy vanilla that is constantly compared to Guerlain SDV. In wearing them side by side, I would say that CDM is softer, sweeter and more mass appealing. It is missing that smoky magic from SDV and leans much more sweet.

This smells like a French vanilla latte whereas SDV smells like a smoked vanilla liquor - similar, but you definitely get more 'umph' with SDV.

Longevity is moderate 4-6 hours, silage is moderate.

Overall 6.5/10, a very generic pretty vanilla - very hard to find a bottle.

bintTapputi

Low projection, low longevity, good scent but too fleeting! 5.5/10

nativelocal

This is nice, but I don't quite fully see the comparison to Guerlain's SDV if I'm being honest. This is more of just a creamy vanilla with a mild sweetness to it. On the other hand, SDV has the added woodiness and booziness that makes it stand apart. As I understand it, Le Couvent des Minimes is discontinued. If you're missing it, I'd highly recommend either Creme d'Nude from MAC or Vanilla Woods from The 7 Virtues. Both are nearly identical and make very excellent dupes.

Snicole82

Finally finished this. Sad to see it go, but because it does not have any longevity, I will not seek it again.

Firstly, I must comment on the packaging of this one. I like it quite a bit! The big bottle really makes it stand apart from the pack, and I love the colour scheme and art that adorns the front of the bottle.

As for the smell, this is a very likable and sweet vanilla and cocoa fragrance. Upon first spray, it smells like the smell of someone baking. Warm sweet vanilla with a soft cocoa lingering in the background.

This is easily unisex, if not skewed feminine. I could see anyone rocking this one in the right setting though. It is NOT sexy, more warm and friendly.

Miruna

Guys, you can still find it on Amazon and ebay, at very decent prices!

It is a natural, deep vanilla, a little smoky, a little boozy, warm and cozy, not at all intoxicating, not at all overly gourmand. I can smell lots of benzoin, vanilla and myrrh.
I love it!

LawmaLlama

I miss this fragrance. I bought it on a whim on sale at Ulta many years ago. Then I wore it as a post shower scent, and it was heavenly. A true vanilla. As time wore on, it changed first in color, going darker after 2 years or so, then went rancid maybe at year 4. Sadly, I hadn't used it up and had to toss it. I wish it was still available!

artsyfartsyhaha

WOW it does smell like SDV! this is lighter and you don't get the woody incensy notes in SDV opening but yeah...let this sit on your skin for a while and it does! I had to get a decant since I couldn't find it anywhere online but this is great!

Tamlin

As many other reviewers below, I also blind bought this. I'm very picky so blind buying is risky for me, and in fact all my blind buys so far have ended up being returned.

I'm happy to say that this is my first successful blind buy!

--- Hos does is smell?

Warm, cozy, smooth and comforting. There's a bit of a "freshly baked cookies" vibe. The notes are very well balanced and blended, and it's hard to pick out specific notes aside from the vanilla.

Vanilla is clearly the main player here. A soft, warm, unisex vanilla, which manages to keep from leaning too feminine with the help of the other supporting notes which make it slightly boozy, slightly smoky, and ever so slightly woody.

The vibe is reminiscent of By the Fireplace, but much softer and without the potentially cloying chestnut, and also with more focus on the vanilla.

The booziness is prominent in the opening, especially if you use several sprays, but it slowly fades as it dries down. It sticks around in the background, though.

There's a slightly smoky incensey vibe, probably from the myrrh.

There's a faint, barely detectable floral quality that keeps it from being cloying, and which almost feels a little bit powdery in the drydown.

There's also a subtle woodiness in the base that gives it a bit of a masculine edge, even while the vanilla itself is very soft and arguably feminine.

The slightly resinous warmth of it also gives me the impression of sun-kissed skin. As if you've been sitting in the sun for a while and you smell your skin and it just smells... warm.

This is definitely gourmand-ish thanks to the vanilla, but at the same time not overly sweet at all.

Some people have mentioned tobacco, but there really isn't any tobacco in here. It's not in the official notes (all listed on the bottle), and I can't smell any tobaccy. It must be the subtle sweet smokiness that gives some people that vibe.

--- In summary...

I really like this and I'm happy with my blind buy. Especially considering the amazing price - I paid 40 euros for a 250ml bottle. 50 with shipping. I'm also glad I got my hands on this at a good price considering the sad fact that it's discontinued.

I also really like the aesthetics of the bottle, the box, and the whole concept and story behind the fragrance. It feels old-school, artisinal, genuine and natural.

The only potential drawback is that it's a subtle scent. It's more or less a skin scent right from the start, so if you want more projection than that you need to use more sprays, but then the boozy notes also get stronger, so it's a bit of a trade-off.

However, even though the scent is subtle and the projection isn't very strong, the longevity is actually quite good! It starts subtle, but it stays at that same subtle level for many hours. You'l have a really cozy skin scent all day long. And if you spray your clothes, you'll get a bit more projection.

Absolutely recommended for lovers of vanilla and benzoin who aren't afraid of unisex fragrances.

Q_Dhini

So sad this is discontinued! One of the best vanilla scents!

kateclarkecosmetics

I meant to say- perfect for a male

kateclarkecosmetics

Cigarette and vanilla. A bit too much for me. Vanilla is beautiful and rich but they tobacco isn’t there for me. Would be beautiful on a warm skin.

Allisonmsmith22

I blind bought this after seeing the comparisons to Guerlain SDV and I am SO IMPRESSED! The similarity is uncanny, and I actually prefer this to SDV. Like another reviewer mentioned below, I also get a distinct sourness in SDV which prevents me from really loving it. It always bothers me. This doesn't have that. Just the perfect sweet boozy vanilla!

Longevity is weaker but I cannot complain when everything else is on point, including the price.

Pick it up if you can find it for a decent price as it's hard to come by!

corkscrewcurly

Bloody fantastic fragrance.

I have the oil and the EDT.

i haven't tested this against anything it's compared to, because it doesn't matter.

It stands alone as something truly wonderful.

LoreleiBluebird

Blind buy lockdown treat, just £22 for 250ml!

Absolutely gorgeous, rich balsamic notes and definitely a strong tobacco note coming through as others have indicated. Dries down to a wonderful vanilla of the non-cupcake type. Excellent sillage and longevity, and even if that wasn't the case I would not be complaining for something that cost eight pence per ml.
Very comforting, and great for a calming bedtime perfume.

Accidental layering bonus: applied Fragonard Fleur D'Oranger on top and came up with something beautiful, and not a million miles from Gaultier's Classique!

ts4r

Get ready for a blast of alcohol. For the price it’s AMAZING This does not have the same resins/waxes that SDV has in the open, nor the sparkle.

After the Alcohol evaporates, it is wonderful Truly wonderful.

Edit:
Wearing it again these pst few days: I am addicted

kikiena01

Another blind buy WIN! Mmmm, this smells like a plum tart just taken out of the oven. It has got this warm fruity sweetness to it. The vanilla in this is almost identical to "By the Fireplace" when it comes to the woody undertone, but unfortunately it is only noticeable a few minutes after the initial spray. I absolutely adore it!

If this is even remotely what the Guerlain SDV smells like I think I would even risk blind buying that one, even though it is crazy expensive.

The only downside to it is the weak projetion, I consider it a skin scent. The longevity is fine for a cologne, it lasts up to 4 hours on my skin.

GREETINGS FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC! :)

trixiesalamander

I love it so so much, that natural resinous vanilla, but it barely lasts on me, and now that it’s discontinued, the bottles are very expensive online! I’m so sad, it’s my favourite vanilla but I just can’t justify spending $100+ on a scent that I have to reapply 4x throughout the day. If it was still in production and still a reasonable price, I’d buy it so fast!

tayyabforyouth

This is basically as good as Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille, and is my favourite vanilla fragrance ever. It's a boozy mix of vanilla, benzoin, and a bit of smokiness. That's it. It smells extremely natural and not synthetic at all. And this is one of those rare vanilla fragrances that is non-cloying, due to being basically an eau de cologne. Due to that, projection is moderate. But longevity is surprisingly good, going for 8+ hours.

4.5/5

Perfumedsecrets

I regret not buying this while it was sold at Ulta. I did buy Cologne of Love and it's also fantastic, but this one is dreamy vanilla with just a touch of benzoin and myrrh.

pjspaceshit

I bought this scent blindly because of the comparison to Guerlain - SDV (duuh), which I also never smelled before (yes, I see, it doesn't make much sense, but it was really cheap and I was curious).

The vanilla in this smells really high quality, not like the super sweet vanillin, which can be found in fragrances around this price range. Other than that I got boozy notes (rum?) and it's all sitting on a nice woody base.

Despite it's poor longevity, I really enjoy wearing this scent, so I decided that I'll give Spirituous Double Vanille a try. I ordered a small sample and let me say, that I don't really enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoy Eau de Missions. There's no doubt that SDV is more refined and higher quality scent, but I find it's opening to be sour and bitter and overall it's not what I'm looking for. So I'll happily stick to it's much cheaper alternative, which comes in a bottle, that will probably last me a lifetime (or two).

hsheep

This is what I wanted SDV to be like. SDV on me has more of the other notes, woods, smoky incense, especially the pink pepper blast which annoys the heck out of me (see my SDV review). I'm mainly here for the amazing dark vanilla booziness that both have, CoM even more so. But I guess I can't have a perfect vanilla because CoM is SO VERY LIGHT. Like a body mist light. I'm left wanting to huff my wrists but I basically need to shower in this stuff to get it have a deeper and fuller smell. The hint of scent from the beautiful CoM is such a mean tease!

msajoy

i haven't smelled the guerlain which is so expensive and rare but this is an absolute guilt free treat.so sweet syrupy, boozy, vanilla, benzoin and raisins. it has similarity to mercedes benz club black, but costs much less. only drawback is the versatility, the frag is so pungent and projects so well for an EDC, winter time you need like 4 sprays to make it last 6 to 7 hours easily. so in summers ill put it back in shelf for rainy cooler nights. very sexy n unisex, and the bet part is the pricing...35 usd i paid for 250ml...that value itself makes this a 10/10. but try before you buy....this isnt for everyone, lil mature vibes to it. amazing rich fragrance and quality.

pepperoniann

Who can resist a good benzoin vanilla? This one is similar enough to Guerlain's SDV once the opening passes; it does have a sharper opening and lack a bit of the sophisticated greenness/well-roundedness when compared to the Guerlain. However this is still a beauty! The emphasis here is on the booziness and creaminess of vanilla instead of sweetness, and as it dries down the benzoin and myrrh gives it such a nice body with a touch of wood. It really smells like vanilla extract but better!

I'm using this before I pull the trigger on SDV, and it'll certainly do its job. Look around eBay for reasonably priced bottles - sometimes they do pop up!

ephoebe23

I live in Greece, does anyone know where I can get this perfume?

HungarianGenius

If this is what being a "Missionary" smells like, sign me up and send me wherever!
As long as i can take my 500ml bottle of Eau Des Missions Cologne..

The best pure Vanilla fragrance available imo. And at THAT price!?!?!?

amanda-m-lewis

What can I say that hasn't been said already? This stuff is good. Really good and overseas its highly sought after. So here is Europe we are seriously blessed to be able to have this beauty in our wardrobes. I use it alone or I use it to layer my winter fragrances that need more oomph!

Its natural, warm, sweet yet spicy, smoky too and resinous..

richard.legg

In September 2019 I've just paid £9.49 for a 250ml bottle of this and it's by a massive margin the best value fragrance I've ever purchased. It's a lovely resinous and natural smelling vanilla fragrance, with low to moderate sillage but lasts for ages. I had one spray on my hand which I could still smell the next day, after a shower and numerous handwashes!

Seriously, for the price I paid it's bordering on criminal.

LisaWB

After reading all the reviews I ordered this and excitedly waited for my order. It does smell lovely as promised, like spiced vanilla rum with a smoky note. Absolutely gorgeous!

BUT... on me it lasts less than an hour. I don’t understand it because everyone talks about phenomenal longevity? Vanilla Fields was a cologne and lasted the full day so I had hoped this would be similar. Am gutted that it doesn’t last longer because it does smell lovely.

kristamb

I have wondered about this one for a long time now. After finally trying this, it definitely starts off very similar to my YR Nuit Vanille...it's nice, but I still love Yves Rocher's Nuit Vanille the best!! Does remind me in its base notes of a much softer Nirvana Bourbon Vanilla...although that one has a much heavier cedar over vanilla as the main note....

Aj49

A resinous vanilla which lasts an unbelievably long for an EDC worth blind buying as it costs near to nothing.

Edit:
I recommend to drown some of your clothing in this! It lasts days and smells wonderful. The dry down is much nicer and less resinous than the opening. I dowse my pyjamas in this and my overcoat in this, gives off wonderful wafts of scent.

avierra93

Elizabeth and James nirvana bourbon is almost identical, and reasonably priced at discounters.

patxaran

If there is one fragrance that is almost never wrong to wear for me... it's this. "Just add warmth and cosiness" without being too much. In fact I am liking it more and more...was so excited when I first tested it in a shop, that I went and bought the half liter bottle LOL then had a bit of regret and now I am like " thank goodness I will never run out". It doubles up as a casual linen spray or lingerie perfume or stationary fume or whatever. You can layer it with almost everything, like other reviewers have mentioned. For a cologne the longevity isn't that bad, it lasts about 5-6 hours on my skin and even after that I can detect it from close up. I can see this paired with woody citruses as well. It is one of the frags I often pack in my travel toiletries (as a small decant sprayer obviously).

Kinski

Frankly...I have become addicted to layering this with all kinds...Dior Sauvage EDT, Dolce Gabbana The One, John Varvatos Artisan Black, Artisan Pure, givenchy PI...to me it makes them all more interesting....to me it improves almost anything I've tried by giving it an underlying warmth and depth...works particularly well IMHO with citrus woodies...

edwardnr17

Divine layered with Coty Emeraude or Caron Pour un homme.

kbot

This is a fantastic, complex vanilla fragrance, although I have to agree with some others that I don't quite get the hype. I do think it is very versatile, i.e. could be worn to dressy evening event and as a daytime fragrance. Might be too cloying in high heat. The smoky aspect of it is beautiful and reminds me of fall. It would not be in heavy rotation for me only because it is too strong/sweet for me to want to douse myself in it, which is how I roll, but I get why it's popular.

SailorV

In my opinion, this cologne is a little overhyped. Compared to other cheap vanilla fragrances, it feels more grown-up, it doesn‘t smell cloyingly sweet or like a pink vanilla body-spray targeted at kids and teens. But I still think there is something about it that makes it smell not quite as elegant as I would want it to, especially in the opening.
Besides the vanilla, I get two disturbing notes: Wet paper and cheap 1990s compact cream foundation. So weird, I hope it‘s just my skin. Yes, I tried it more than once, and I always get that. It‘s not really bad, but not good either.
On the plus side, the vanilla itself is quite beautiful: Bright, but balsamic and boozy, creamy and a little woody. Over the hours the fragrance becomes more vanilla-focussed, the weird powdery and papery notes vanish I start to enjoy it. Other than that, this is linear, there is no huge twist here.

Honestly, I think this is totally fine when you for some reason decide you need a 500 ml bottle of a vanilla fragrance for 30€, you will certainly not get anything better or similar in this price group. But I think the price was/is part of the appeal, and for those who can‘t find this for cheap anymore, I wouldn‘t recommend Cologne of the Missions.
& to be honest, I‘d take a well-done sugary girly gourmand over this anytime and I would rather pay more for a grown-up vanilla that gets it just right than to buy this okay offering for next to nothing.

Saeka

Yes, the dry down does smell like cologne version of Guerlain Spiritual Double Vanille ... maybe a bit weaker than cologne ... almost misty kind. I can experiment layerings till the sillage improve with time like somebody already mentioned.

The initial boozyness evaporate very quickly which is better than blast of alcohol. I can’t wear SDV or Lavanila Pure Vanilla or Pink Sugar to hot stone yoga classes but this inoffensiveness is safe.

I’m also happy with the price $60 for 250ml including shipping from a German ebayer. Great〜❤︎

P.S. The cap didn’t fit tight after attaching the sprayer nosel, it was loose so, I put a tiny rubber band around the neck to fit tightly to prevent evaporation.

AHeartLikeMine

I agree with Annjo's review, except that I don't think this smells anything like grenadine syrup. My main issue with this is the benzoin/myrrh / balsamic aspect of it. It starts out with a CHEAP-smelling sour scent. It eventually dries down to a more natural vanilla, but you have to wait at least an hour to get past the top/middle notes. For a fragrance that is highly recommended and raved about, I couldn't believe this smelled so cheap. It smells like something that you'd find at Dollar General or Family Dollar. I'm so glad that I had an opportunity to try a small decant instead of paying for a full bottle. When you compare the price of this to a bottle of Body Fantasies Vanilla, it's a no-brainer. I'll stick to that one and Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee for my vanilla needs and keep looking.

amarelumene

I am in the states where this fragrance has become a mythical unicorn and if one is lucky enough to find it, the prices are $150+. I searched and searched for months and finally found it on eBay. I paid $17 for three 1oz bottles. When they arrived in the mail, I quickly put this on my wrists and OMG, I LOVE it!!! That would normally be bittersweet because you find a fragrance you love but might not find it again, but this actually smells very similar to one of my favorite vanilla fragrances- Les Senteurs Gourmandes (formerly Laurence Dumont) Vanille Noire. In fact, it smells exactly like it upon first spray! It’s a rich, warm vanilla with a slightly spicy kick and a touch of wood. So if you’re wanting this and you can’t find it or it’s too expensive, you could do the LSG Vanille Noire!!! As this dries down, the spices dissipate some and you’re left with a very dense, beautiful vanilla that actually smells similar to Indult Tihota. It’s not exactly the same, but if you deeply inhale, it has that amazing buttery, richness with a hint of smokiness just like Tihota. So if you want Tihota but can’t or won’t pay $200 for it and you find this, get it!!!! All in all, this truly is an incredible vanilla fragrance. It’s not bland, it’s not plasticky, it’s not like a lot of the cheap body sprays. It’s rich and warm and inviting and it smells expensive. If you love vanilla fragrances as I do, you should definitely get it if the opportunity presents itself!!!!

Tigidy101

I live in the United States where this fragrance is a very rare bird. I wanted this one badly but wasn't willing to pay the $200+ the sellers on eBay wanted for this. I found an Italian seller that sold me a 100ml bottle for $40. Still expensive considering what it goes for in European markets but a steal within the U.S. I had a big 250ml bottle possibly lined up for @$75 if I liked the scent.

And...I won't need the big bottle. Look, this is a nice fragrance, no doubt. It's a very good vanilla scent with a bit of that play-doh smell until it dries down a bit. Not a big fan of that play-doh smell but it goes away quickly enough. It turns into a very pleasing vanilla. Vanilla is my favorite note so, yes, two thumbs up! Thankfully, I don't smell even a hint of plastic-y vanilla. Nope, this is a very nice, rich vanilla with just a bit of play-doh in the beginning. If you like vanilla (me!) then you'll like this. On me, it lasts around 5 hours and has decent projection.

So why wouldn't I reorder at that awesome price (for the U.S.)? For starters, I switch up every day and this will last a long time. Otherwise...well...simply put, it's too expensive in the United States for what you get AND I have other vanilla fragrances that are better suited for guys (of which I am). Many guys that like the smell of sweet fragrances but won't actually wear them will be (slightly...vanilla tends to be sweet regardless) more comfortable with Perry Ellis' excellent Black Vanilla Absolute, L'Occitaine's Eau de Baux with it's awesome vanilla note, and Mercedes Club Black with it's powdered, incense vanilla. There's also Givenchy's Pi but that's not similar except that it has vanilla. All are better options for guys and have a bit better quality (maaaaybe. I'm debating that even after having just wrote it) for the money (keeping in mind that unless you get lucky a 100ml bottle of Cologne of the Missions goes for @$75+ - $150+++ in the United States with 250ml regularly going for $200++ on FleeceBay). Now if Missions was indeed @$20-$25 for a 250 ml bottle in the States then that whole comparison skews toward Missions being the winner. As is...shoot, give me all of them! Haha!

The price being what it is, I'm very happy to own this rare fragrance but won't seek out more. I can absolutely see where it could be someone's signature fragrance! It's that good. But to other fellow Americans, yes, we're missing out on this one. It's a shame but don't pay over $50 for this. There are other vanilla fragrances out there. Now, if a distributor ever set up camp in the United States and prices became reasonable, then by all means buy away!

MrHonest

If you're looking for a stronger version, look to Zara's 2018 release of Rich Warm Addictive. They have an incredibly similar smell with the bourbon vanilla and florals, but RWA is significantly longer lasting and slightly more masculine. Cheers.

wagners erda

This is a beautiful fragrance which is not too strong but lingers on the skin and gives off beautiful wafts of sweet, but not too sweet vanilla. In fact it reminds me very much of the drydown of L'Occitane en Provence Amber which I wore a yesterday. It is just not as resinous as the L'Occitane one.

Sirenn

Le Couvent des Minimes' Cologne of the Missions is a deep, warm, rapturously resinous vanilla with a thick, syrupy sweetness and a heavenly hint of tobacco smoke.

On my skin, the fragrance is reminiscent of Bath & Body Works' Warm Vanilla Sugar, though the former is richer and more complex, particularly with its distinct cedar accord lingering in the background. Still, with Cologne of the Missions becoming a rare and random find in the States, WVS may be a worthwhile companion in its stead, particularly when layered with a smoky, balsamic companion.

luv2teach

Vanilla and benzoin are 2 of my favorite notes. I smell it in here and it's lovely. This is very light as it is a cologne like a Guerlinade.
It's lovely for what it is- not too sweet. I'm looking for something like this but richer, deeper.

trabuquera

Great value for money, very popular, strong performance. But personally a NO for me as it's simply too sweet and the vanilla too strong and gourmand. Too much cake, making me feel a little liverish - and not enough darkness or spiciness or earthiness to tone down that vampy vanilla enough for me to deal with. Very very sweet and very femme - would be wearable for a male vanilla fanatic - but not really one for the niche-heads. If straight-ahead, dessert-style vanilla is your jam, then this one's not to be trifled with (*groans*) - it is very likely to do the job for you at a very reasonable price. For me personally, an unexpected disappointment - just far more cloying and not as nuanced as I had thought from its stellar reputation.

Annjo

Having read the fantastic reviews for this scent, I blind bought it.
I was so expecting to like it, and surprisingly, I dind't love it, but it was more than that … I kinda hate it.

It's weird I'm not usually a "snob" with perfumes, but to my nose, and on my skin, this smells cheap : well it's weird it doesn't feel cheap, like I can see that the ingredients don't smell synthetic whatsoever : this is a paradox for me, the perfume seems well-made, but the smell in itself is so far from the classy vanilla gourmand I was expecting.

I only wore this scent once, and had to give it away.

Also, the one thing that bothers me the most with this scent is that it smells just like Sirop de Grenadine (Grenadine syrup), which I love … as a syrup, but I wouldn't want to smell like it! The association is way too present for me to enjoy the scent, which is a shame.

That still doesn't keep me from blind buying, you win some, you loose some!

So as a conclusion, perfume seems like it's made with good quality ingredients, but I find it way too foody to enjoy.

zo_smells

This smells like my late mother used to smell when I would embrace her: calming and comforting, it smiles at you welcoming, full of "love that shines". Not literally shines, but it makes me feel like that...it makes me feel secure when I wear it.
Love in any season for me!

HorseDog

Smells just like SDV's drydown. Unfortunately, it leans feminine. Men, if you are looking for a masculine vanilla-like scent, skip this one (unless you want to smell like a women). Lovely scent though, I would totally wear this if it was a tad bit more masculine.

Le Couvent des Minimes - Eau des Missions Cologne (Cologne of the Missions)

Vanilla + Benzoin, two of my favorite notes in perfumery. Sweet, boozy and slightly smoky. Marketed as a cologne but behaves like an eau de toilette.

Three years ago I found an online liquidator that had these for sale at half the retail price. The deal was so irresistible that I ended up buying 3 each of the 250ml and 500ml bottles. These should probably last me a lifetime!

Sabretoothkitten

This would be perfect without the cedar...when you smell it from the bottle, it smells a lot more woody than it is after its been sprayed. The first few minutes its woodsy vanilla but it settled to a gourmand, creamy dessert vanilla soon after. I like the benzoin in this and there s a tiny bit of something resinous probably the myrrh.
It has great lasting power but not too strong sillage. I'll bet people might ask " we're you baking cookies? " while wearing this. I am going to a Greek festival soon I will wear this. I think it's best for cool weather and the cozy time of year.

tessture

Inexpensive and really nice. I get bourbon vanilla under a clove-y tobacco. I adore it. It's fairly light and sheer for it’s notes, coz it’s a cologne. The clove/vanilla combination reminds me of a milder version of Tibetan Mountain Temple. Really nice

MrsPress

@smellsbells this scent is quite inexpensive in certain countries. In the US it is difficult to find and rather pricey; it just depends on where you live.

Fanui

Just a quick correction for everyone: The notes are wrong on one count. The note “Camellia sinensis“ is incorrectly listed as Camellia by Fragrantica, meaning a fantasy note based on the decorative flowering plant „Camellia japonica“. The closely related sinensis species is actually just the plant from which tea is made. So the tea associations are actually correct, it's a classic tea note.

Vlud

This is a comforting vanilla based scent warmed up with smoky myrrh. A very nice fragrance and for the price - absolutely amazing. I tend to wear it casually or before sleep as it is so cozy and smells very authentic.
The performance is decent and overall this fragrance shows that you can buy very good fragrances without spending big.

8/10

Sabretoothkitten

Sexy autumn/ winter vanilla with spices and a resiny feel. I avoid vanillas which are too sweet the notes in this make it cosy and less youth and more woody. Really like this one.

GodKing

Delicious vanilla, benzoin and some mild boozy nuances is what I get from Cologne of the Missions - it's a gem! Although, at the time, I was not a fan of fragrances that feature vanilla front-and-center, I just fell in love this one, which I found to be a warm, creamy and comforting vanilla scent without being obnoxious. It is extremely well-done and terrific "niche" like quality at a very reasonable price.

I discovered Cologne of the Mission almost 5-years ago and, while I love it, my girlfriend, mother, and three grown daughters absolutely love it; freaking love it! I have literally purchased more than a dozen 100ml bottles of the magic elixir over the years because the women in my life love borrowing it from my Scent Armory and never returning it. Go figure! Moreover, while it smells great on me...I have to admit that it smells even better on the ladies. Les femmes just rock this one better than we dudes.

Longevity and projection are about average, which is fine for this kind of warm, comforting, and delicious sexy gourmand fragrance. Sadly, the prices have shot through the roof here in the State. Thankfully, I purchased three massive 500ml bottles that I managed to hide down in a back vault of the Scent Armory.

Quick question: why are these so expensive here in the States...yet, I see where 500ml bottles are selling for under $30 in the UK???

fromthebayandaroundtheway

Cologne of the Missions is vanilla bliss! I cannot stress enough how much of a pleasure it is to wear this fragrance. Cologne of the Missions is of course sweet, bright, slightly smoky and all COZY! This scent is rich yet airy due to the simplicity of the composition of this fragrance; vanilla kissed with smoke and some florals, just brilliance in a bottle!

Who is this for? Simply put, everyone! This can be worn by either gender. Cologne of the Missions works beautifully in cooler weather and could find its place in formal and informal settings and situations. I wear it at home from time to time when I need to relax. I prefer it on my wife, it seems to have been made just for her skin! Either way, if you love beautifully blended scents and a truly tamed and not overly sweet vanilla, then Cologne of the Missions is a must for you!

@socorrosouza - well, I'll be sad if it's another anosmia-causing scent for me. I guess I'll just wait and see. Is there evidence that intensive vanilla causes anosmia? My anosmia has happened recently and I am trying to work out what/which notes might be causing it...

socorrosouza

Apparently yes, it was not on the Couvent des Minimes' site the last time I searched. It is very intensive vanilla, so it can cause anosmia, a reaction by the nose to the intensive use of certain notes ( which is peculiar to each individual) I don't have anosmia to Missions but have to Pink Sugar.

Charess

corkscrewcurly, I had the same experience. My 500 ML bottle has darkened so much, but smelled quite the same. Only a slight tobacco note indeed, which makes the fragrance even more beautiful!

socorrosouza

The natural vanilla has matured and acquired new flavors. Really natural vanilla does mature and change colours but natural vanilla is only used in very expensive perfumes as it is costlier than artificial ones.

corkscrewcurly

Well, this is interesting.

I bought a 250ml bottle of Cologne of the Missions about 18 months ago, sprayed it, thought "Hmmm... OK" and left the bottle at the back of a shelf. It was a fairly "light", soft vanilla and I thought it would come in handy to layer and sweeten/soften other perfumes, which weren't quite what I'd hoped. I couldn't detect the camellia or cedar notes - and does anyone know what centella asiatica smells like?! Sillage and longevity were both moderate, which was a pleasant surprise, given that it's a cologne. I then promptly forgot about it.

When I bought it, the perfume was the colour shown in the photograph at the top of the page here. Tonight, I picked up the bottle and noticed that the liquid inside has darkened a LOT. I sprayed it - somewhat gingerly - thinking that it may have turned, and took a cautious sniff.

Well - it hasn't turned. Sillage and longevity remain moderate, and it's still fairly linear and doesn't develop, BUT...

It's developed a rich tobacco note.

It's become a far more interesting perfume and one which I will wear by itself, rather than using it for layering (not that I did before, as I forgot about it, but you know what I mean). I can't stop sniffing the back of my hand, where I sprayed it.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

ETA 20.03.2020 I tend to wear comforting perfumes to bed and sprayed this at about 10pm; I can still smell it this morning, nine hours later; longevity is remarkable for a cologne. My bottle is several years old though, so it may have developed with age.

Vivavoice

Oh how wonderful to read about this just before the Summer months. Am going off the niche perfume hype and back to delicious basics - this looks like a winner. Have just ordered the huge bottle at half price! Spring sale on Amazon - will update with a review soon!!

UPDATE; Its here and its just boom diggity great!!. A primal comforting and superbly balanced Vanilla bomb. Instantly took me to a beautiful memory of a holiday in Tahiti - oh my, its warm and welcoming.

Spring/Summer is almost here and this is me all the way! Longevity is short for the full bloom, but the drydown stays for about 4 hours. Longer if worn over a body lotion. Get it if you can. Got huge 500ml in glass bottle. This is a keeper and repeat buy, and like someone mentioned, it will enhance any limp feeling fragrance and calm a shouter. Just timeless - nature knows best.

sepheme

This is my go-to layer and problem solver for fragrance mishaps. Want an amber fragrance to have better longevity? Spray this underneath. Need to inject some sweetness into a tobacco or leather? It can do this too. Tested something that was a mismatch? Vanilla goes with everything. Done!

I spray this in my hats and along the neckline of my sweaters. Although I almost never wear it on its own, it is an indispensable part of my wardrobe.

After liking Eau des Missions for a while now, I finally took myself into the big city to try Guerlain's SDV today, thinking I'll finally get to smell the "proper" vanilla fragrance this is compared to. Well, I suprised myself to discover I prefer Eau des Missions. SDV was so cedary at first, too woody for my tastes, where cedar is more in the background with EdM, although it does blend into the background eventually with SDV. And it's quite dry, where Eau des Missions has a sweeter boozy edge without being too sweet. I was expecting SDV to be very rich and deep in comparison, but it isn't really, on me anyway, although it does win on longevity and sillage but not by as much as I was expecting. SDV is very nice, and if you like dry wood with your vanilla, you'll most likely be very happy, but I'm happy that I just purchased a large bottle of Eau des Missions. I guess I like my vanilla to be a bit more luscious. EdM isn't luscious in a strong way, but the notes give an impression of richness I guess, even if it is a little on the sheer side. Other than wearing it by itself, I think it will work as a sort of extender to other more pricey vanilla-based perfumes. I have Gourmand Coquin and Angelique Noire, and I think it will be lovely to spray Eau des Missions all over, and use the others more sparingly to give a waft of luxury on top of the vanilla base. Yum!

Charess

I love this fragrance so much!
It's one of the most beautiful vanilla's I've ever smelled! If the sillage would be better, this would definitely be my signature. Sadly, the sillage is very soft. Longevity is a bit better, it lasts for 5/6 hours.

This is a soft, powdery vanilla, with hints of cedar, benzoin and incense (however incense is not listed)
It's sweet, but not that sweet. And it smells soooo comforting! I always feel cozy, warm and safe when I wear this. It also calms me down when I'm stressed. As you hear, this fragrance is even a bit therapeutic for me ;) I also wear this at night. Yeah, I'm kinda addicted to this stuff. Good thing I have a 500 ml bottle (which was very cheap, BTW)

If you love vanilla fragrances, please try this, it's amazing!

stickaforkinit

I had a big bottle of this which I really could not tolerate and had to donate it to a charity shop.

Nynmauve

This is a beautiful scent. It´s vanilla, but not that kind of overwhelming sickening sweet type of vanilla scent. It´s not even the most natural vanilla smelling, but it is soft, elegant, calming as a cup of rooibos vanilla tea. I guess the roiboos vibe comes from the flowery notes in it. But it´s not just that. What made me love this fragrance most is the nice smoky scent that you can smell all the time that comes from the benzoin and the myrrh with a woody vibe too from the cedarwood, wich gives a misterious, almost mystic aura to this gentle vanilla. I get also a smell of good rum, or whiskey. Sometimes I get a hint of tobacco even if it´s not listed. It´s definitely unisex. A very nice one That I´m glad I purchased. I really think It is a fantastic fragrance.

Vintagelaces

I use this as a sensual massage oil and my goodness, it's so decadent and divine! The scent that lingers on my sheets when i use this oil is absolutely insane! Seriously, don't waste anymore time trying to decide whether or not to get it. Just get yourself a bottle!

ilsagold

Just layered this with Franck Boclet's Cashmere I've been enjoying the smoothness of Benzoin from both perfumes last 5 hours, with a pinch of good quality cinnamon of Cashmere.

Dimitris.Ko

Smells like a slightly smokey, boozy (rum) vanilla. Sophisticated and sweet, gives a very familiar smell and its quite people's pleasure, The performance is very good. In fact, Eau de Mission projects more than several eau de parfums that I’ve tried lately. Longevity and sillage are both great for a cologne type.
A true hidden gem, potentially the most under evaluated fragrance ever in this wonderful genuine Vanilla. A bargain gem of the very best kind – it smells great and costs almost nothing and of course you can also layer it over anything that's too sharp, citrusy, etc

js71

This is unbeleivable for the price, i find it very close to dior's feve delicieuse for the first hour untill it develops quite a smokey side, It also reminds me of 24 gold when dried down. I bought this for £23 for 500ml and cant quite understand how that is possible when fd is £200 for 125ml. This smells far from cheap and the performance is very good with 4 sprays. Its bloody gorgeous . If anything i think the price does it more harm than good and if this was made by one of the big houses it would cost at least ten times more and people would buy it. If you like a creamy resinous vanilla with a bit of myrr and a little smoke this is for you. Even the bottle looks great. Cant really give it less than 10/10.

Silkselkie

Sheer tragedy that this has been discontinued, because frankly it's one of the more trustworthy, yet elegant scents I've ever come across.

Certain days, I just can't pull off my favorite diva scents like Shalimar or Yvresse. Maybe it's due to my particular chemistry varying in the day-to-day, maybe it's because I'm not quite in the mood for whatever reason, maybe Mercury's in retrograde and the Great Old Ones are having some spat about the return of Eternal Darkness or whatever. But to go without SOME kind of scent - well, that just makes me feel incomplete and underdressed! I was on the hunt for something low-key, yet sumptuous.

The buzz around this fragrance has been pretty amazing - I'm a fan of the robust vanilla in vintage Shalimar, but not so much elsewhere - I usually find it far too sweet and overloaded with artificial fruits and candyfloss dressing. It got me thinking that while SDV is TREMENDOUSLY out of budget, it couldn't hurt to indulge this curiosity about Cologne des Missions.

Thanks to an extremely serendipitous find, I bought a full bottle off of eBay after borderline obsessive reading about this scent across Fragrantica and the blogosphere. This fragrance definitely has one of the more dedicated followings out there, and it's very clear as to why. If you have the chance to sample it, do.

This is perhaps one of the most comfortable, singular, and luxuriously true vanilla fragrances out there. CDM opens on my skin with somewhat zingy cedar aromatics that within moments transform into a lush, tremendous natural vanilla extract that never becomes excessively gourmand or candied. It's linear, but has depth thanks to the subtle, sinuous resins coiling throughout. The boozy notes evaporated fairly quickly on my skin, but I've noticed they linger more with a heavier-handed application. Whether you take a light touch with this fragrance or spray it everywhere, it has the benefit of never becoming overwhelming or excessive. This vanilla is a fragrant chameleon amongst its devoted followers - classic and comforting, or rich and sensual, appropriate in warm weather or chill, for a daytime romp or a nighttime rendezvous.

Furthermore, it PERFORMS. Sillage is anywhere from 4-12 inches on my skin, for upwards of 8 hours, and it has tended to evince more compliments than not. I've worn it to the office, on dates, on errands - and it NEVER feels out of place.

The tendency has been to dismiss vanilla as ordinary, as a baseline, for good reason of course, but CDM reminds us of the magic of this ingredient, to reflect upon what this feels like for each of us as individuals, to contemplate how this ingredient can express itself across myriad ways and moods to become a singular and transcendental experience. This fragrance is a meditation, leading you into the creamy-petaled orchid, into the dark and twisted bean, unfurling alternately the raw sweetness and boozy, resinous aromatic enchantment within.

But perhaps that's excessive. I really love this fragrance, after all.

I would urge those who dislike vanilla to give this one a shot. The careful framework of resins and wood makes for a very elegant take on a note too frequently written off as basic or relegated to a doom of chokingly artificial praline gourmand nightmares. Despite its tragic discontinuation, samples and sometimes full bottles are available in the wilds of eBay, and worth every bit of trouble to track down.

the_badger

Smells like Spanish flan cake. Yummy!

I don't know what to add to all the positive reviews except my perplexity that such a beloved scent has been discontinued. Maybe someone could start a petition? Le Couvent des Minimes is impossible to find in my country so I ordered a sample of this one and I understood right away all the love it's getting. It's not a simplistic vanilla or an overly sweet one either, it's soft and chic and a bit melancholic. I will cherish my very little sample.

oschi

I'm really impressed. I was able to get 500ml of this for 17 Euros. And for that price that fragrance undeniably amazing. Doesn't smell synthetic like you'd think of perfumes in this price category.

Gourmandy, boozy, warm semi-sweet vanilla scent. Unique and rich. In my opinion way better than Guerlains Spiritueuse Double Vanille. And it lasts even longer than that.

Leans more masculin than Guerlain in my opinion.

This thing is way more worth than its price. I'm very pleased with this blind buy.

David Y

Smells exactly like Zara's RWA! You get a smoky nuance in the opening but it quickly dries down to RWA in a matter of minutes.

MixedTastes

I like this, but I wanted to like it more.

It starts off as a very warm, true vanilla, then quickly develops a woody undertone.

My niggles are that:

a) Its very light. Sillage is gentle, longevity isn't great on me;

b) Its linear. I know...it says that on the tin :-). But it really doesn't go anywhere ...and feels unfinished somehow.

I think it may be something I would layer with other fragrances with more going on - to add extra vanilla-oomph - rather than wear on its own.

c) The dry down leaves a faint tobacco whiff on my skin, which seems to happen to me with most 'grown-up' vanilla fragrances. Not a fan of that.

Amazing value for money, though, if you're a hardcore vanilla fan.

Evaliz

An absolutely yummy discrete lovely vanilla scent that's caressed with a bit of myrrh and cedar to make it a very elegant wear. I absolutely adore this and would perhaps bathe in it given the chance. If I had a criticism it's that it might be a tiny bit too light, I wouldn't have minded a bit more oomph but perhaps that's part of its charm.

chinook

Starts off with caramel creme brûlée and dates, then turns into vanilla, this perfume got my sweet teeth going. I say it's a prelude to food. I ate 3 butter cookies after putting this on.

aki777

Smoky vanilla fragrance. On my skin it smells like Eau Duelle's sister.

cocolover56

A lovely vanilla, quite quaint and relaxing.

Nothing at all like SDV. More like Montale's Vanille Absolu.

Spiriteuse Double Vanille is a complex, slightly sweeter vanilla. This is lacking sweetness, but is much more woody and boozy. Interesting, not something I wear outside of the house, but nothing on SDV.

Beadvised

I got this from a swap and it is gorgeous! I never heard of it before so if not for this. I'd never have experienced this heavenly scent. Such gentle creamy high quality vanilla.

redskyatnight

Cologne of the Missions starts with an unsettling rubbing alcohol opening. You'd almost think you had a fake on your hands that had been morbidly diluted, but wait it out. After a couple minutes, you're left with the best kind of vanilla: vanilla extract. Yum! The resins work in a mysterious way to bring the impression of dry, mineral-rich stones too hot to touch. This fragrance is home at once in both cold and hot climates for this reason. It's tempting to overspray because it starts out quiet, but the scent intensifies over a few hours, so a little can actually go a long way. This is one of my top few vanilla fragrances, along with Vanille Insensee.

gtabasso

I am not a vanilla lover but love this one. A dry boozy cooking vanilla. Very lovely.

ssaminn

This is the kind of smoky vanilla I've been looking for, for a long time... it's the vanilla that you find in half and half pipe tobacco and a few cigarettes. It's lovely and soothing...

Le Couvent des Minimes's is very light and does have a soft smell but it flows in the air and this soft smell stays with you for 4 hours. I love it, and I only wish I could find a strong version of it. It's a great value for this price...
It also reminds me of Givenchy's Pi a little but that one is much sweeter and vanilla induced, and it does have a complex green background to it. My personal rating is 8/10.

Stoicov

I'm saving my bottle like.... I want to have this forever...

Lucklily I found an EDP that is as good or even better, without being sweet and cloying as Guerlain Double Vanille called Laya by Ne'emah, if you find it try. Middle East true work of art!

Thor65

I bought a decant of L'Air Du Desert Morocain and a sample of this was included. I was much more impressed with Cologne of the Missions. Immediately ordered a full bottle. Great boozy vanilla scent. Resinous, comforting and sexy all at once. How anyone could not adore this is beyond me. I hear this resembles Guerlains offering. I am afraid to try it because I can in no way imagine it smelling much better even at a reduced price. This is a fabulous fragrance.

Eau des Missions does not sell on their own site nor is there any reminder that it is out of stock.

;)

Love this alone and layered with so many other scents. Contacted the company and they assured me this was not discontinued, but I have my doubts and bought three backup bottles. Like most of the fragrances I adore, wish it was stronger, but for a comforting true vanilla this can't be beat.

OTA Mom

A pretty, warm, fruity, slightly spicy mix--I think 'comforting' is an apt description. Inexpensive but lovely and suitable for anyone, any age, male or female.

Happyme2009

Wonderful, simple, perfect. A one note miracle really. I cannot sense anything else other than freshly cut Tahitian vanilla beans. The initial smell is alcohol, but it evaporates quickly leaving behind this delicious and very natural smelling vanilla. The silage is low but the lasting power on clothes, not on skin, quite good. Innofensive, delicate , natural, and to top it all up, it comes in giant bottles ! I could bathe in it. Highly recommended to vanilla lovers and also to those interested in natural scents .

ShinningLightOfThunder

Very lovely sweet vanilla fragrance. It stays on my skin long, so it's very pleasant. Lots of other sweet scents disappear quickly, but not this one.

Mellinail

This is such a lovely vanilla fragrance, with a combination of notes that reminds me of cocoa with cream in it. It has a soft sillage on me but great longevity. My ginger male cat is always in my face when I am dressing, and got in the way of a spritz. He now smells as lovely as I do!

samantha.lynn

Such a shame that this is disconned. It's a staple in my collection. A beautiful vanilla with cedar, myrrh and benzoin. It's light,as others have said, so I wear it when I don't want to offend others with a heavy perfume and I use it like an after shower body mist.
I have stocked up and purchased the huge size (found on EBay from the UK. It was legit, they shipped overnight and it cost the same as the small size costs on Amazon here. Highly recommend doing this if you're a fan like I am).
I hope Couvent brings this back. Al-Rehab Golden Sand is a decent dupe, but a bit sweeter.

Soofiya

I finished my decant of it in a week and then I came to the conclusion that I need it in my life.as it's nowhere to be found here I ordered a bottle from US and as soon as I took a sniff again,I knew that I need a backup bottle
I don't want this soothing vanilla dream to finish
I love vanilla,I love benzoin and I love myrrh.this perfume with this long difficult name is mostly about these three notes.I find it simple and linear but at the same time a different take on vanilla, something we don't usually see among perfumes with a kind price tag
Combination of vanilla and myrrh reminds me yves saint laurent opium legendary China, but this one is less spicy and doesn't have classic vibe of opium.I agree with my friend who says about similarities to captain black perfumes by which I think she mean captain siller(also known as Captain black here),a cheapie tobacco scent with dark liquid and pieces of brown leather on it's bottle.ofcourse they're not the same.that one is masculine and very tobacco-ee smokey.but I can detect something tobaccoish here too.maybe it's just it's smokey undertone or maybe there is an unlisted tobacco here.never mind the point is,this tobacco-ee vibe is well rounded by under notes and doesn't appear as too smokey or overly masculine.it's delicious.very delicious.by which I mean really delicious but thank to all these spicy,woody,smokey,tobacco-ee undertones it appears rich and sophisticated, nothing a child can pull off.it's very warm, wrapping and cuddly.very smooth and soothing.there's something nostalgic in it reminding safety, family and childhood.I received comments like you smell like the most delicious home made cake or you smell chocolatey confirms this as a gourmand.a gourmand for grown ups, also a great gourmand for men(while it's also as wearable for women) it never becomes cloying to my nose, there's something fresh and airy floating beneath this home made cake with enough spices, chocolate and smokey smell
Longevity is great and really surprising.it's really longlasting for such a soft scent.sillage is moderate
I can't find proper words to express my love.I have already sent samples of it to my special friends which are vanilla lovers just because I want to introduce them my love.at the same time I want to have it always in my collection so that I stop myself to spray it as much as my heart desires,I'm really afraid of running out of it
I also agree with below review that it's a shame this adorable babe isn't available in Iran.I'm really mad at perfume sellers that never tend to bring my beloved fragrances
Please bring this.we have the right to enjoy this delicious warm and enveloping magic around us

First impression... beeswax vanilla.

I got the HUGE 500ml, but without a spray nozzle. So this is a tissue/kleenex test.

It's foodie. Food-ier than other vanillas that have tobacco/clove/myrrh in them. But not exactly toothache frosting vanilla/sweet. It's also rather generic.... like Vanille Outremer for women or Les Orientaux: Vanille Molinard. A tiny bit boozy too. Overall, a great value and cool HUGE glass bottle, but it's not complex or deep. Just nice.

UnearthlyApothecary

Best vanilla ever. Woodsy, boozy, a touch medicinal. This reminds me strongly of Madonna truth or dare naked, a favorite of mine. While this does sit pretty close to the skin, it's very long lasting.

fyre92

Every time i see the 500ml bottle i buy it. This stuff is wonderful by itself or under another fragrance. It seems like weak water when you first buy it then something happens and it deepens and becomes stronger and stronger. STOCK UP while you can.

Venusta

I'm sorry that I sound like a Victoria Secret ad that spams the word 'sexy' every 5 seconds, but my gawd!

All vanilla lovers stop what you are currently doing and buy this! Smells dam delicious. It's subtle, delicious, vanilla/benzoin...delicious. I mean seriously: DELICIOUS.

D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!

demonicpretty

I was excited to sample this one, because I've heard good things about it. At first, it was a very nice resiny benzoin/vanilla. Kind of like the benzoin in Prada Candy, but more like its earthy older sister. This scent also reminded me of the long-discontinued Antique Lace by BPAL. It lasted quite a while but had moderate sillage... But after a few hours I started smelling Play-Doh. Oh no!

fishwife

Absolutely lovely...a perfect vanilla with a touch of incense notes...not overpowering, but lasts a really long time. Big bottle, very reasonably priced...any vanilla lovers out there should grab this...

Scentedalterego

This is some really good quality stuff. Most prominent notes are vanilla, benzoin and mhyrr on my skin, just as listed. It feels very luxurious.

I didn't buy it because for me it's not wearable enough due to the prominent mhyrr, it's reminds me a bit of church-related smells. I guess the name "Cologne of the Missions" is very apt.

I bought the orange-blossom heavy Eau Aimable instead, which is of superb quality as well.

heavenlypink

Ha ha ha!!! Catwalk!! You sound just like me!!!! I am exactly the same about this GORGEOUS vanilla perfume!!!! ★★★★★
I have literally just received my bottle of this amazing cologne and I have sprayed it all over my bed, my winter coats, my kitchen chairs, my sofa, in my car and all over my hair. I can't get enough!

The opening is a true pure vanilla scent ( I love real and pure vanilla) and in just about a couple of seconds you can smell the boozy/ woodsy notes. It's gorgeous!

It's been almost an hour and I can still smell it all over my house- I'm in heaven!

Thank you all the great fragrantica members who helped me to make a decision to buy this amazing cologne.

socorrosouza

Strange, on me although it has not a beastly sillage, it has a modrate one and for a looong time, 4 hours and lasts for 12 hours . Love to sleep wearing Eau des Missions, I wake feeling it very present. Try Joop Le Bain it is also a boozy vanilla and has good longevity (on me, about 7 hours) and moderate to soft sillage, and it is also has a reasonable price. Although Joop le Bain is discontinued or going to be.

RaeGoLightly

I really hope the SDV I ordered is not like this. I comforted myself paying $330 for SDV because it was tax free. I hope the projection of SDV with Elixir Charnel Gourmand Coquin is amazing and SDV is exceptional over this. I will keep both. But while I like this, I hope to use this as a background body spray and linen spray. Those are my feelings right now.

I am truly hoping I can come back and say, yes, this is a good background to SDV. I expect Guerlain to be better. It's coming in tomorrow.

BUT, it is nice. Crossing my fingers SDV is way better. I'd be so disappointed if it isn't.

Get ready for alcohol. I HATE the beginning. After that, it's nice. I know my hubby will most likely like it...like a body spray. I wanted based on the comparison an "eat me now" scent. I got...body spray. Nice for the price. But crossing my fingers SDV sets it apart. I want decadent!

Bottom line, this won't go to waste even if I don't use as a skin scent. My couch, bed and rugs will spell like this. And I'll replace when I'm done using this.

Edemay

Started off like a creamy vanilla candle. The benzoin and myrrh were quite prominent and it reminded me a lot of valentina myrrh.
After about 20 minutes this transformed into a very light juicy sweet rose scent.
I can hardly detect the vanilla now but i find this quite mesmerising and feminine.

socorrosouza

You are so lucky, here in Brazil there are no more to sell, since Couvent discontinued its operations in the country !!!!!!

Marcmartin

T.K Maxx in Edinburgh is selling 500ml of this for £12.99 I have just bought 2 bottles

socorrosouza

On me it also lasts 12 hour plus and even in hot temperatures (100 F and over) it stays light and does not turn, which is very common for sweet perfumes. Boozy, spicy and delicious all-natural vanilla. RedPula, i think the greater longevity must be at least in part to cooler temps, almost all scents lose longevity on hot weather. Eau des Minimes stays on me 6 hours on warmer temps and 12 hours on cooler temps or very cool air conditioned temps.

Redpula

Let me tell you my story with this perfume.
Two years ago, I received my huge bottle of Les Couvent. First time I did a full wearing, the performance and projection was really below average. It lasts less 3 hours and gone. Okay, I accepted the reality that this is just a cologne. Yet, I would agree that this smells really close to Guerlain's SDV but less complex and quite linear. My SDV was just a 10ml decant back then and currently, 4ml left.
Because I own many assorted bottles, being a collector, I never take Les Couvent seriously, meaning I never wear it again. I use it at times, just a spray in my wrists for reference. Plus I sold 10mls to my Facebook (community) friends and held some giveaways via my secret perfume group.
Now I'm down with 90ml because of this. Besides, I now own a bottle of Perry Ellis Black Vanilla Absolute which is closer to Guerlain SDV and more likeable with its complexity and sensual aroma.
But last week, I revisited Les Couvent, wore it a few days and behold, this performed superb in longevity and projection. It is no longer as soft as before, a potency improvement and the comforting whiff, now, more noticeable. Longevity, 6 hours, on my skin. One day at work, I smelled my 10ml decant, accidentally my nose touched the spray hole and the smell stayed and linger for hours after wiping it.
Was it the cold weather or the liquid aging that enhanced the potency? I hope it's the aging because I now totally appreciate this enchanting and wonderful vanilla concoction.
In my last wearing, I played around and did a layering (not literal, one on top of another) with Les Couvent (4 sprays, 2 both wrists, 2 sides of neck) and Thierry Mugler Angel Men (A*Men), 1 spray centre neck and 1 back neck. The journey was magical and very impressive. Lovely like a gorgeous prince and princess romancing on my skin. Les Couvent kept serenading me from 9am until mid afternoon. A*Men definitely reign supreme but Les Couvent's awesome vanilla, comforted and tamed down, the sexy, enchanting and mighty A*Men, sending sensual clouds and very pleasing whiffs to those I passed by and to my town folks.
Les Couvent Eau Minimes Eau des Missions, seems to be blooming as she aged, in a proper temperature. So given a year or two, she may become a full blown gorgeous queen that gets utmost respect from the highness Guerlain SDV and to the vast Kingdom of Scents. Then the fairytale of Les Couvent Eau des Missions will lead to a very happy ending.

HOW THE HELL DOES THIS LAST LONGER THAN PERFUMES IVE PAID $100+ FOR? I can spray this at 8am and still smell it and get compliments on it at 6pm.

AliaC.

To me it's just candy sickenly sweet...I wanted to love it... but I didn't... a shame

Soofiya

I received a generous decant of this from my lovely friend @alinaa and it's a pity that it's unavailable where I live,I looove it
Not a complex one,but it's very lovely
Warm, smokey vanilla blended with cinnamon and myrhh.it's rich, delicious and very sexy.reminds me Xerjoff bouquet ideal which is also a spicy, woodsy vanilla scent
For me,this is a fall, winter fragrance with moderate longevity and almost soft sillage, yummmm
❤❤❤❤
Edit:OMG this one is really longlasting!it's so yummy and balmy and adorable. I'm dying with sadness that I can't have a bottle :(((

Madrona

I cannot say anything about the supposed likeness to Spiriteuse Double Vanille because I have not yet had the fortune of smelling said offering by Guerlain. What I can say is that this is a round, pleasing, non-cloying vanilla, rich and resinous. Very nice.

socorrosouza

On me it lasts over 12 hours and even in hotter humid climates ( over 100 F). I am crazy about it. Try Joop le Bain for a reasonably priced long lasting boozy vanilla (at least on my skin).

hellina2000

I am crazy for vanilla fragrances and blind bought this gem based on the recommendations here on fragrantica.com. I have a small decant of SDV and was intrigued at the prospect of an affordable doppelgänger. To me, Cologne of the Missions smells VERY boozy in the bottle, like gonna get me fired because it smells like I've been hitting the bottle boozy. Once sprayed, it almost instantly turns into a gorgeous smoky vanilla with just the barest hint of liquor. I completely agree with the SDV comparison but, to my inexperienced nose, Cologne of the Missions smells a bit less boozy than SDV on. I wore it all afternoon the day I bought it and couldn't stop nuzzling my wrists. Unfortunately this has almost no staying power on me and I felt constantly tempted to respritz. Before bed I showered, moisturized with Body Shop vanilla body butter and sprayed myself liberally with the Cologne. I was in heaven when I fell asleep but by morning it was all gone. I'll happily use my bottle but I probably won't repurchase, as it's just too fleeting on me.

Dark, smoky, boozy take on vanilla, but a fresher, lighter scent thanks to the citrus and cedar woodiness. The vanilla here is truly lovely with a deep, rich aroma of natural vanilla absolute that is neither too sugared nor too common vanilla icing variety. It never feels suffocating, cloying or too thick and sticky to wear.

Pollyflower

The box says it’s paraben free. The ingredients do seem natural but then it has dye and a few things I can’t pronounce (ethylhexly etc) but then many I know are natural such as juniper, myrrha, centella asatia, and camellia sinesis leaf. I hope that helps someone looking for all natural perfumes.
I might add that they had this for less than retail at the L’Occitane outlet even thought it is not made by L’Occitane.

Pollyflower

I am so excited about this! I just bought it after sampling it in the L’Occitane outlet store. I was surprised that I really like it and it’s not too heavy or masculine. Some orientals seem too much for me. I am planning to layer this with Stella. I tried it with the rose perfume in the shop and it’s wonderful! Oh I feel so smart, now reading that people are layering it. I layered my Stella with Too Too which is more peppery/patchouli and it’s nice but not wonderful. So this will be a fun addition! I also think there will be other fun combos. You could do a variation on Boum Pomme Vanille (sp?) which wasn’t a favorite but I can see adding apple or fruit to this and it would be something I would love. To me this is also what I wanted Mad Potion to be, more of a real vanilla.

fyre92

WONDERFUL base to any fragrance you pair it with!!. Its awesome by itself too.

Love at first sniff! I found this on sale at David Jones and it was probably the first scent I did not have any doubt in my mind I wanted to buy from the first try... Few days wearing it I was so in love I had to run around Sydney trying to find more bottles at the thought this was going to be discontinued... after much search I found ONE! the last one in the shelf and bought it as a backup. I went trough my first bottle real fast and I am already onto my second bottle.

On my travels and sniffs around the world I found Laya Ne`emah For Fragrance & Oudh (available on Sephora) its quite the same but a little more woodsy...

If you ever go around the souks in Dubai or Abu Dhabi you will also find a perfume oil (attar) called "Golden Dust" that its quite the same as Cologne of the Missions. Bingo!
The long short story is that Golden Dust has no brand - it seems to be a traditional recipe and it is produced by different sources... so you will find a number of mysterious, un-branded "Golden Dust" being poured into 6ml little jars and they all smell very much the same: a unisex, grown up, dark vanilla and a soft oudh in the base...

A search on eBay for Golden Dust will take you to some options and all Cologne of the Missions and Vanilla lovers should adventure in trying some of them!
Absolute Love!

In my search fot the ultimate vanilla scent i came across this one. Bougt the 250 ml body mist wich had a very natural woody vanillapod scent. It does not project( it is after all a body mist) but does linger as a bodyscent for at least 5 hours. Not suggary at all on me. Unfortunately not my holy grail of vanilla. I need something fresh to lift the vanilla. Citrus maybe..

socorrosouza

I wear it also on summer (since in Rio temps are over 90 F almost year long except for a few weeks in July and August) and it doesn't turn rancid or overbearing and has a 7 to 8 hours longevity. Love it !!!!!!

JezzaN1

A delightful boozy, warm, balsamic vanilla scent. Not incredibly complex compared to a lot of scents, but it doesn't try to be - a perfect fragrance for winter in particular, as well as autumn. It doesn't take all that long for it to reduce to more of a skin scent, but it's not something that needs to be particularly loud.

Also, the value for money is phenomenal - 100ml bottles for ~$35USD is fantastic. Something tells me i'd love Spiriteuse Double Vanille too, however the price:value ratio with this wonderful fragrance is just too hard to beat.

Dark Lady

I bought a big (500 ml) bottle of this in the natural cosmetics section of a big supermarket (Müller's in Germany) when I heard that it was going to be discontinued :-(
I don't know Spiritueuse Double Vanille, so I can't compare it with that, but I own quite a collection of very expensive scents and this does't compare unfavorably.
Very nice vanilla for a cold and rainy day and my favorite scent for going to bed.
Eau des Missions opens up with a boozy vanilla and calms down to a woody, resinous vanilla over the next hour, wrapping me like a warm blanket.
It don't detect any flowers or find it too gourmandish sweet, there is mainly vanilla in the foreground, resins, and wood.
I can't complain about longevity and sillage at all.
I sprayed it on (chest and pajama top) before going to bed at midnight and now, 10 hours later, (while having breakfast in bed) I can still smell it very clearly from my chest. The overall quality is absolutely amazing for a scent composed of natural ingredients and for the prize (50 € for 500 ml). I would highly recommend it as long as it can still be found!
Warming, soothing, comforting. Quite wonderful!

socorrosouza

Since it is much older than Spiritueuse Double Vanille it can hardly be called a dupe.

Sinotah

Well this one turned around nice! In the first testing she wasn't living up to my expectations at all. I smelled plain raisins with a little vanilla. Syrup like and sweet, I really didn't know where the fuzz was all about, so I've put her away to look at it another time.

This morning I had to pick a scent. As always, having trouble with it. Since she stood there in the cabinet and didn't want a lot of thought put in, I put her on. The weather outside is rainy and cold, and I got some strange warm hints of vanilla. Only to find out later, that was LCdM! I was baffled, how could this be? She smelled so rich, so comforting, so darn elegant! Nothing like the candy raisins of before!

The scent is not complex, but invokes the idea of it and transforms a little every hour on my skin. A natural soft vanilla (like vanilla sticks unpeeled in yoghurt), a distant hint of flowers, plants and woods, making it not so gourmand, a gentle myrrh in combination with benzoin gives it a full body and a mystic trail. For a steady 5 hours of intensive work I still get a nice hint and it keeps lingering behind me with a moderate sillage from beginning to end. In the end she just fades. Never got so many compliments either. The comparison with Guerlain is very understandable, because of the sophistication it embodies and easily can be mistaken with Guerlain by an 'untrained' nose, but it isn't to be called a dupe.

My conclusion is that I'm happy to give this beauty a fair chance and fell in love at second sniff.

Zaaackwhy

For some reason this fragrance reminds me more of a sweet cocoa powder scent. Smells more like cocoa then vanilla to me. Anybody else? Anyway it still is a good scent and absolutely recommend if your a fan of Vanilla!

Happyme2009

Very light and not long lasting but so beautiful!
I love it. They must sell the big bottles for a reason. It smells totally natural, just simple and delightful, like a natural vanilla extract you use in your kitchen. Lovely , I wish it was more concentrated. I am a vanilla lover and this is so pleasant, refreshing, relaxing... Recommended to all who like their gourmands delicate.

socorrosouza

It is made by the nuns at a convent in Haute Provence, The Convent des Minimes. The convent has a centuries old tradition of making all kinds of moisturizers and scents (only 4 of them, though) for the aristocracy and neighbors.

milazinha

(If anyone would like to try this, I'm happy to swap decants for my want list.)

I totally get the comparison with Spiritueuse Double Vanille. To me this is *THE* ultimate gourmand scent, very sweet vanilla without ever being sickeningly or nauseating. It is extremely comforting and warm, a must-try for gourmand lovers. And for the price - are you kidding??? LOVE! :-)

socorrosouza

Expensive in Las Vegas. Here in Brazil I bought 500 ml for less than US$30.That said, on me it lasts for over 12 hours with moderate but uniform sillage on the worst heat (over 100 F). It does not "spoil" on heat as Joop le Bain did . It starts as a boozy vanilla and gradually loses the alcohol feature, not too sweet, it is a natural but not gourmand vanilla. Love it, one of my favorites !!!!

ilsagold

I bought this last year from a Las Vegas Pharmacy 100 ml for $30 and been using it here in İstanbul fall/winter. Happy with its longevity which is around 8-9 hours and I can get the whifs of it most of that duration. I will be very happy to substitute Eau des Missions for Guarlain's Double Vanilla. Not much difference for that huge price gap.

My wife thinks that its about chocolate when I just sprayed it on me. And she seems happy with that. Haven't had any complement during its middle and final stages though.

Last week I accidently layered it with Tauer's Vanilla Flash...the result was delightful.

thesheppardess

This is the first time I have felt a fragrance embrace me. I felt like I was being given the most wonderful hug from a being who is warm, loving and shares my love of blended vanilla.

I feel soothed and sedated by Eau des Missions. I have never experienced this before from a frag.
As much as I love my Guerlains, I will be very happy to substitute Eau des Missions for one or two of their exclusives.

As beautiful as Eau des Missions is on its own, it is lovely layered with other frags......

I should add that this is not linear on my skin. All the notes play out and it isn't very sweet on me.

socorrosouza

My favorite vanilla, lasts over a day on me with a good sillage for 4 hours than gradually decreasing to a skin scent.A boozy vanilla with benzoin on me linear but delicious and great performance and not too sweet. Simply delicious !!!!!!
