Royal Amber S.T. Dupont for women and men

It is good but sillage and longevity are awful! It becomes a skin scent within minutes. Not worth!

This is one of those perfumes whereupon first sniff, you might think, this is a pretty Amber... but for those willing to pay a little closer attention, the richer, more complex nature unfolds into a beautiful array of harmonizing notes and accords.

No oud in this & no Amber at all!! Only syrupy red berries / jam scent and leather (suede)...I must say that I like the suede note in Royal Amber it's a very true suede smell exactly like the smell of the popular suede jackets back in the 2000s...

I blind-bought this because I love Amber fragrances and I had high hopes but unfortunately there is no Amber in this as I mentioned, it's a misleading name!... the lovely realistic suede note in this fragrance wasn't enough to keep it... add to that the performance, it wasn't as I expected and as reviewers said!... very weak projection power of almost 0% its immediately a skin scent!... I wore it (fully) 2 times before returning it. I recommend testing it thoroughly!

A light Saffron-leather sweetened by a lot of vanillic-patchouli ... based on the others people review it must have been reformulated, it's actully a moderated intensity and the composition is average. ok if you find a bottle for 40€

a sweet and boozy amber perfume with a beautiful lingering leather accord.

I had earlier purchased Khalis Oud Amber and this has a similar smell to that with leather added on.

@ boogyfan.. I totally agree with your comments. I own both Calligraphy Rose and Royal Amber. C.R has a extremely sweet rose vib for the first 20 minutes. It does settles and you're able to pick up some wood notes...very long lasting 12+ hrs!
Dupont has come out with several excellent frags including R.A. After spraying it on my skin it reminds me of 24 Gold 24 from Scentstory except R.A is far more smoother and not as synthetic on me.
At first spray, amber isn't smack in my face. It works well with the oud notes. There's just a hint of leather that brings it together. Saffron and sandalwood kinda gives it that mystique from the Middle East except it's not as strong...wearable for those who live more in North American.
This juice is perfect for evening wear especially during the fall and winter months.
Longevity and Sillage is excellent..at least 6hrs+.
Oud being so popular in the past 5+ year's, I have several oud/rose or oud blends. I had this gem tucked away with some of my rare and hard to find colognes. Come this fall I'll certainly start making better use of this juice. 8/10

I used to love this one but after a while I realized that it has some very weird, synthetic and plasticy notes that ruin the whole composition for me. Halston Woman Amber, for example smells a bit cheaper and simpler from the beginning but those notes stay true to themselves til the late drydown. I think the idea of this fragrance is good, however, it has been done before, but the quality is not that good. Certainly, it may behave very differently on others' skins.

Very forgettable to my nose. Not bad, just smelt 1,000 times before. Unless you find this ultra discounted, I wouldn't bother.

Just received my bottle today. I wonder if this has been reformulated. It's a decent smell, I get a lot of the red berries note, but I'm not getting this full, rich, powerful scent that everyone is talking about. Projection is pretty low.

For the price, you can find it discounted online, Royal Amber is an absolutely gorgeous fragrance! A rich, spicy scent with a great performance and yet very well behaved and smooth. For me the best of the line.

best thing about this fragrance, its beast mode longevity and projection, but never becomes annoying or on your face. its lovely sweet saffron, sandalwood/vanilla, oud, suede and patch combo. so delicious, people will always compliment you. it can be worn at winter and cooler summer days/nights. this House is definitely Niche quality, i wish there was more presence of amber in this like davidoff amber blend but this smells heavenly so i forget

i have the 10-2017 batch, i actually bought this last week, as i write this, its already 12 hours and its still there although its a scent skin now. the fun fact is after the first 4 hours, i went for a shower, so i guess it could be stronger if i dont go to shower. for about $37 (Indonesia), heres my take:
Scent: 10/10, simply niche quality!!!
Longevity: 10/10, i think its safe to say its at least stay for at least 12 hours
Projection: 10/10, minimum of 4 hours, sadly i took a shower because i have a family dinner and need to dressed up
Sillage: 10/10, i spray it twice on second floor, and then my mom on the first floor yelling to stop using a fragrance at home
Versatility: 6/10, in tropical country like Indonesia, even the night is hot as hell, so basically its normally hard to pulled off some strong fragrance (this is only my theory tho because i never use it in high heat since my house is full of air conditioner)
BlindBuyWorthy: for my fellow indonesian, HELL YEAH, because this thing is getting rare. but if this thing not that rare in your country, you should try it first since it can be very overwhelming for some.

This thing performs like a beast and it just smells so damn good..

Thanks dear for clarifying, I didn’t try Nobel wood, but I still find the opening of this one similar to K black, fortunately, the opening doesn’t last more than 30 minutes.

@alfrued Noble Wood is actually very similar to Kalemat Black not this one. Royal Amber is like a friendlier version of Attar Al-Ghutra from Swiss Arabian.

I bought based on reviews. The initial spray was not amber at all. I agree, there is some oud coming through- but not the traditional middle eaestern ouds. I thoughy Calligraphy Rose from the initial spray, which itself is a beast. This is not as potent as that but a strong scent of rose swings through. It does disaapear over time but it is there. Wish there was more amber but maybe the argawood drowns it out, maybe. My nose dint catch the amber at all. Not a bad fragrance but underwhlemed based upon the reviews. Id give this a 7 out of 10 for the scent. If you are looking for performance- put on yor best loafer and be prepared to dance all day! 10/10 on performance. Scent does change over time so in the end it is a different smell from the inital spray. At dinner you may say "hmm, is this what I sprayed this morning??".

Blind bought recently as i do love Ambers and this has received primarily positive reviews.
Royal Amber has a very prominent Oud note, i love Oud so no problems there but i was expecting more Amber. This is a very sweet, Oud, spicy Rose (Geranium), light Leather, Berries and Amber scent.

You could argue the Amber is directly responsible for the strong sweetness that is present throughout, but i always enjoy and prefer being able to detect the source of the Amber note ie; Labdanum, Ambergris, one of the Balsams, Elemi, Oppopnax etc etc. In Amber Royal, that is not possible, you are presented with a very pleasant smelling sweet fragrance and told it is Amber..

For the price i suppose that is ok, but ultimately it doesn't tick all the Amber boxes for me.

In comparison, Davidoff Amber Blend is a similarly priced fragrance that is undeniably Amber-centric, it is absolutely dripping with resinous smell that is unmistakable.

In conclusion this is a good fragrance, the name however is a bit misleading

The type of fragrance that you would be willing to pay 300$ if it came under Tom Ford Brand name, Absolutely amazing, both the scent and performance is 10/10. a true hidden gem

I blind bought it based on the positive reviews here also it was cheap $35.
I hate its opening when I tried it, very similar to kalemat black.
Once it settled, I loved it, it is very rich & smooth Amber with fruity leather.

REVIEW - ROYAL AMBER by S.T DUPONT PARIS.

After getting my third bottle of this gem, I'm finally in a position to have found words to exactly review this beautiful scent.

Short Review - This is an Amber based oriental goodness. One of the most posh and luxorious smelling perfumes that I've ever smelled.


Detailed Review -

TOP - The initial blast of this perfume opens with geranium and oud. Geranium is like more spicier version of rose and oud is of dry woody variety. The backbone of this scent initially consists of Powdery Leather. Amber in the top is far far behind. All in all very oudy-powdery-sweet opening that's very masculine

Unlike many other scents the top notes are noticeable for about a good 30-50 minutes.


Heart Notes - This is where the amber really shines. To be honest this is an amber scent through and through. With each section of the scent presented with a different variety of amber.

Though unlike many amber scents the mid is not warm (that part will come later). It's rather sweet and playful and complex with amber amped up with red berries.

Drydown - At the drydown this scent changes a tad bit more. Here the amber gets cozy warm and more welcoming. The drydown provides your skin with a very natural warm cozy and delicious Amber that's breathtaking. There's some creaminess to it too thanks to the Sandalwood.

Performance;

LONGEVITY 7-8 HOURS
Projection - Decent scent cloud. Moderate and subtle projection that's consistent through this scent.

SILIAGE - This is a room filler. Then place where you spray it, holds it for a good while. This is one great point to this scent.


USAGE - Strictly Masculine. I can't think how can a woman pull of the woody-leathery opening. 25+

This is something that you can imagine a sheikh wearing. Or how a posh Arabic palace would smell.

Compliments - Galore! This is a compliments machine if you wear it properly. It just exudes richness, royalty and luxury. It's very subtle but gives his message very clearly!

Rating - 8.5/10. This is one of the most beautiful amber based scents that I've smelled with different variations of amber throughout the scent. Good oud scent for beginners too.

Amber, where are you?! I had the chance to test this over the weekend. One spray on my hand. Bang! Nothing but only oud. Not skanky. It is Ok but not what I expected. Anyway, it projected for the next few hours even without holding my hand near to my nose. At the third hour, my wife said she could also smell berries but prominently oud for both of us. Only after the 6th hour, I started to get amber which was nice but too late to appear. So its a pass for me as I don't need an oud perfume.
Good longevity (9-10 hours)
Average projection (2-3 hours)

First blast is intense good quality Oud, then it softens down in about 10-15 minutes and the Amber appears with a slight leather-iness to it. Stays the same till the end.

It's a soft Ambery Oud, smells luxurious but not overly heavy as some Oud perfumes can be. A perfect choice for a Oud beginner.

this fragrance really strong ,after 20minutes spray i go washroom wash my hand using soap, but the smell still there .. amazing !

Woooooooooow!!!! If you want to smell expensive, if you want to turn women's head, if you want to have one simple fragrance to wear the whole winter, go for it blind buy it, and you'll not regret any cent that you've paid.
Amber/cherry/oud/cedarwood/ and sandalwood well blended and it will punch you in the face all the notes and the most amazing thing is, in the same time!!!
9/10 fragrance and i never regret my blind buy 65€

It's very similar smelling to Ferrari Oud Essence minus the rose note .

But Ferrari I just couldn't wear because of a weird feeling on smelling so I sold it off and bought Ferrari Amber essence instead .. something is very weird in that fragrance

This is proper high end leather fragrance with excellent amber note .


LUXURY IN A BOTTLE

10/10 for me .

I bought an S.T. Dupont fragrance for the first time 2 months ago. As usual for a non mainstream perfume this was a blind buy for me.
My attention was captured by magnificent bottle and the amber note as amber and oud are probably the notes I like the best. I can only say that I don't regret one cent of the price I paid for it.
This stuff is signature scent material. It will be dificult for me to resist to the other two fragrances of this series.
After a couple of sprays, you notice that this fragrance is all about amber and leather. A divine amber that embraces all around you blended with a very smooth leather.
There is something animalic about the fragrance that catches your attention in a good way. The notes combination also lead you to scent a balsamic aura around the created ambiance together with a gorgeous smokiness.
16 hours ago, I sprayed the back of my hand twice I can still sniff a very faint skinscent. You get bigger performance if you spray on your clothes and hair.
This persitant long phase is very alluring. Uniqueness: 9.0 (quite unique but there is a resemblance with both Men Amber and WomenAmber for by Halston.)
Wearability: 9.5 (Its subleness let's you wear it all around the year with the sole exception of the summer daytime,)
Versatility: 9.0 (As long as the people around you are confortable withh an alluring oriental scent, you may use it everywhere with de sole exceptions of beach and workout.
Quality: 9.0 (my judgement)
Presentation: 10.0 (Defenetly in the front row of any shelf)

I strongly recommend this fragrance to both genders. It's tottaly unisex.

This is not something I normally go for.I prefer feminine fragrances to unisex ones and however I love amber,I usually avoid leather and our in perfumes
I tested it from my friend's bottle and wow! I'm going to need a bottle for fall and winter
It's a real oriental fragrance.not a complex one,not as simple as it's notes suggest either.I can definitely smell oud here but it's not a bad news.it's our reminds me oud in "lancome oud bouquet"which is to die for.
Amber,oud,a hint of leather and I can also feel something like benzoin and sandalwood and a very light touch of spicy florals(a very light saffron-rose)and a soft dash of powder blend together to create this warm,cozy,smooth,delicious,rich and sophisticated scent.it's yummy in an oriental,grownup way and is really unisex

This is a softer scent than its siblings "Oud & Rose", "Noble Wood" and "Royal Edition". If you want a perfume to enjoy for yourself without setting the whole neighbourhood on fire, this is the one. It is soft, but rich and deep. There is more going on than just amber and leather, there is oud too, but there are more secret ingredients. The word is rich. Rich as in warm and enveloping, but also as in sophisticated. Just try it yourself if you have a chance. Lovely bottle too, by the way...

remind me of Zara Ambre Noble

but this is smoother, more creamy in my nose.

while ambre noble is more rough, more sweetness and almost cloying.

if you on the budget, you can take Ambre Noble, simply it has better price and Longetivity.

but, if you want the more sophisticated luxury vibe, go for this one. for me, the notable different is the quality ingredients used. ambre noble is a bit screechy and rough for me.

This came across as a rather mild scent on my skin. Very little longevity and poor projection. Was expecting more after reading the reviews.

@JeffreyHan: At the time I posted, the exchange rate (to $) of my country was phenomenally high! However, there's good news. For almost 10 weeks now, my local currency has gained against the dollar! "Royal Amber" currently retails between $70 to $85! What a massive fall of the dollar!
With these positive developments, I'm definitely picking "Oud & Rose", "Noble Wood" and of course "Royal Amber"!

Walked into a friend's posh shop sometime in October 2016 and spotted this frag selling at $318 (converted in my currency)! I got really curious and decided to spritz the tester on my wrist. It was a well blended and olfactorily dulcent mix of floral/woody facets of rose, amber, agarwood (oud), and patchouli. This was first impressions. I look forward to buying a full bottle in few weeks!

Thank you, misstral, for the additional info. Something tells me that this is going to be the redesigned black S.T. Oud trilogy, hopefully available for western market, too. That would be awesome, cause the black collection was awesome!

Very strange?!! This one is allready in production, I have it from tha first months of 2016...this is perfect oriental composition with enormous longevity...
Here, the pyramid of notes is very poor...S.T. Dupont enriched it with tartness of lemon, aromatic mint and violet leaves in top notes. The heart of the composition provides aromatic breezes of lavender and sage, enhanced with woody, masculine accords of sandalwood and cedar surrounded with moss.

Top notes: lavender and sage

Base notes: Lemon, mint and wood moss
